Ah, c'mon. Female characters are only ever hated when they're poorly written. If they were male, they'd be just as hated. Calling anybody sexist is such a reach.
I mean, you really think that the likes of Team RWBY would be more liked if they were guys? Qrow? Ironwood? Got any solid examples? All I see from you lot is a bunch of accusations and hypotheticals.
C'mon. The FNDM's maddening but real bigots are few and far between.
Let me give you three examples of sexism from the RWBY Critics. And let me remind you that both men and women can be misogynists. The Republican Party of the USA is sure proof of that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that we have the proof of RWBY Critics being nasty sexists out of the way. Let me go over Yang Xiao Long, since most straightshippers and rwby bashers love to hate on Yang.
Critics gnoring the fact that she losed a arm, got PTSD for like 3 volumes, saving the world from a immortal being. Edit: She's just not 24 hours all happy girl anymore like in the volumes 1-3….nobody is anymore after everything that happened. Because taking world ending stakes seriously, and not constantly being quippy doesn’t mean that someone is no longer fun. No, no, don't look at Yang pranking Nora during their arm wrestling match, making jokes about getting reward money for Weiss, or doing stunts on a hover bike. Giggling about Adrian? Pranking Penny with her arm? Joking about crashing the Schnee Party? RWBY Critics: Yang is no longer fun, she’s a Karen! Basically, critics have to ignore/forget/deny ANYTHING that disagrees with their negative views of women. If these people can't even understand a character after showing all his background, trauma and way of thinking, imagining understanding a real person you know nothing about. But seriously, things are less fun in general. Like, yeah V1-3 were school fun-times where the characters weren't even aware of the world ending threat working behind the scenes. Now they are, and they're trying to stop it, things are going to be less fun. Want an example of how Critics pretend to be blind and deaf? Adam Taurus: Introduced trying to blow up a train of passengers. Blake Belladonna: Introduced trying to stop him, and then joins Beacon, hoping to change the system from within. Volume 2: Adam literally tells Cinder that he finds his followers expendable. Blake is opening up to Yang and becomes more and more happy. RWBY Critics: Blake manipulated Adam, Blake is the reason Adam is evil, Blake should have saved Adam, Adam should have killed Blake. Yeah, I’d call that sexism. Let’s cover Robyn Hill
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve got some memes just for this But somehow Robyn is an evil terrorist? And Ironwood is somehow the savior? Ironwood, who constantly demands trust and talks about making difficult decisions while : A) repeatedly forbidding penny to have any friends and having her as a project done behind everyone’s back? B) Holding more government power than any other Council Member, and forbidding anyone not part of his military from being allowed to defend themselves or carry weapons (volume 7 chapter 2, clover ignoring Qrow’s license) C) Going behind Ozpin’s back to get the council to fire him for not giving James what he wants? D) Threatening Jacques and telling him to get on James’ good side while declaring closed borders WITHOUT the council’s permission? Threatening a civilian while declaring HIMSELF the council? E) That mech was put in Argus WITHOUT the people’s awareness or permission. Ironwood then installed a racist megalomaniac because she was fanatically loyal to him.  But any woman standing against is immediately considered a war criminal? So yeah, the hatedom? Is misogynistic.  I keep seeing men and women talking about how they want the female characters in RWBY to suffer. I keep seeing them throw slurs at fictional characters and towards the writers. If you don’t have anything respectful to say about the show unless it involves pushing cis white male OC/MC fanfics and talking about how your ideas are superior? Or you wanna talk about porn? Then you have nothing to contribute but Hatred, and you shouldn’t contribute at all.

May I ask for another sequel based on your post with Summer losing her cool on RWBYJ, please? After Summer notices that she does indeed need to be angry with Ruby, Yang pulls her aside for a private conversation. Yang explains that she can tell that Summer is more than disappointed... When Summer attempts to deny this, the blonde only gives her a concerned expression.
Summer sighs and finally admits that she has indeed been quite angry with what's been going on. She obviously doesn't want to, but she can't run from it any longer. She explains to Yang that she's angry that the kids are involved in Ozma and Salem's war that, to Sum, is more like a childish squabble.
She's angry that the kids are blindly follow Ozma instead of seeking legitimate advice. She's angry that the kids didn't tell their families anything about it. And she's angry because she worries that Tai and/or Qrow haven't been good influences on Yang and Ruby.
Before she can be angry at herself for dying in the first place, Yang stops her with a tight hug. The blonde apologizes....for everything. She also explains that none of this is Summer's fault. She then says that once they get home, they will try to be better.
Summer wipes whatever tears she and Yang have and hugs her eldest daughter back, saying that she knows, because she will be joining them....hoping to make things right with Tai, Qrow, and most especially Raven.
After several moments of silence, Yang lets go and says that she has faith in Summer and believes that she can restore Sum, Tai, Qrow, and Raven's bond. And that Summer can prevent RWBYJ's bond from sharing the same fate. Summer thanks the blonde with a smile of gratitude, before turning to face Ruby. Summer orders Yang to make sure no one interrupts her talk with Ruby.
Yang nods without hesitation, before staring at Summer in awe as Sum begins to transform into her god-grimm-hybrid form. With one more look of gratitude from Sum, Yang watches Sum enter the space where Ruby and her counterparts reside in.
Summer growled to herself as she paced around the jungle. “Why can’t I seem to help her? I know I have to be angry with her, but at the same time, I need her to help her. I cant lose her, not like she lost me.”
“Then… maybe you have to tell her that.” Yang slowly walked over to Summer and leaned against a tree. “I mean, you are our mom and sometimes, we have to hear when you’re more than disappointed with us.”
“I’m not-”
Yang rolled her eyes and cleared her throat.
Summer sighed. “Alright, yes, I’m not thrilled about this whole situation and how everything has been handled from everyone’s end. You kids were never supposed to be part of this, it was all supposed to end with me and your parents and uncle. This whole… war between Salem and Oz is… its just a childish squabble that doesnt need to last this long! Ozpin should’ve taken care of this centuries ago!”
“I dont think its as easy as that-”
“And then he dragged you kids along into this! And all you kids have done is blindly follow him instead of trying to figure out what else to do!” “We havent been blindly following him,” Yang remarked. “Not… completely. We’ve been asking questions and figuring out our own path-”
“And look at where that’s gotten you!”  Summer closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself. “All I’m saying is that you kids should have asked questions from the start instead of waiting until you felt forced. I know you were all thrown into this, but you still could’ve talked to your father, or your uncle, Professor Goodwitch, General Ironwood.”
“Things came up-”
“And did you even bother to tell Tai where you were going?”
Yang looked down at her feet. “He… figured it out…”
Summer sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. “I swear, he and Qrow havent exactly been the greatest of influences on the two of you. I should’ve been there-” She paused once she felt Yang pull her into a tight hug.
“I know we should’ve talked to dad more about it, but… we couldnt just sit around and do nothing. And you know Ruby, she always looked up to you. So when Beacon fell, she knew what she had to do.” Yang tightened her hug as a few tears rolled down her cheek. “I’m sorry we’ve been reckless and didnt exactly take things the safe way, but none of this is your fault. Even if you were around, we’d still try to do what’s right. That’s what you and dad always tried to teach us, isnt it?”
Summer slowly nodded and ran a finger across Yang’s cheek to wipe her tears away. She slowly wrapped her arms around Yang and smiled. “Yeah, we always tried to teach you to do what’s right.”
“And once we all get home, we’ll do better with this. After all, doing the whole sacrifice ourselves to save others thing didnt exactly pan out like we wanted it to.”
“It never does.” Summer squeezed her daughter a bit. “Besides, I’m going to come home with all of you. I… I have my own things to make right with your father and uncle. And your mother.”
Yang nodded and held her mom close for a few quiet moments. She finally pulled back and smiled. “I know you can fix things with them. And we’ll do our best to keep our team from falling apart the same way.”
Summer nodded in silent thanks to her daughter. Her smile dropped as she turned to Ruby and took a few breaths. “Now, please make sure no one interrupts me with Ruby.”
Yang nodded with a smile. “Dont need to tell me twice.” Her smile dropped into a look of awe as she watched Summer’s form change to that of a sort of grimm-hybrid form. She took a step back as Summer walked forward and tore a rift in the air.
“I’m going to help her like I should’ve a long time ago.” With a quick breath, Summer stepped into the rift to help heal her daughter’s mind.

Robyn: Have you been sulking in your room for the past two weeks???
Clover: What?! Excuse me, but I am the captain of the general's hand picked Ace Operatives. What would make you even consider that I of all people would sit in my room sulking??!!
Qrow: Clover, you are literally watching daytime television on a Monday...while sitting naked in your bed.
Clover: ...You may have a point.

RWBY and the Philosopher’s Stone
So, I finally watched RWBY after a friend name-dropped several characters and I was like wait... those names are alchemical. I was still pleasantly surprised to find out just how deeply rooted in alchemy the story is, from its characters to its plot structure.
Background: alchemical structure is a type of story structure that focuses on inner transformation via outward obstacles. You can find it in literary traditions across the world, from Moxiang Tongxiu’s novels to A Song of Ice and Fire to Harry Potter to The Witcher to Trollhunters. Carl Jung incorporated it into his psychology. Daoism plays heavily into Chinese alchemy. The Wizard of Oz, one of RWBY’s main inspirations, is a blatant alchemy allegory. It’s everywhere, so it’s not surprising RWBY is drawing heavily on alchemy, but it is neat to see how blatant the references are.
Thematically, the goal of alchemy is a metaphorical philosopher’s stone. The philosopher’s stone, in legend, is said to produce an elixir of eternal life, and to be able to transform “baser” metals into gold.
In stories, when positive, as it usually is, this usually results in a character either overcoming death (see, Harry Potter) and/or transforming the world and others around him (Harry Potter saving his friends, etc.) But the journey from how they get from prima materia (raw material) to the philosopher’s stone? Now that’s the story.
Tumblr media
(When reversed, a metaphorical stone results in something that can destroy everything; see: the One Ring, also Salem, because Salem’s whole thing is that she cheapened the process of life and death, while alchemy states that death is a necessary part of achieving life.)
So, mostly I’m gonna talk about the symbolism I’ve seen so far and make some predictions for what’s likely to happen next in the story, and for the characters.
Each of the four main characters has a name that corresponds to one of the four phases of the Magnum Opus. “Blake Belladonna” refers to the nigredo, or black stage; “Weiss Schnee” to the albedo, or white stage; “Yang Xiao Long” to the citrinitas or yellow phase, and “Ruby Rose” to the final stage, rubedo, or red (Ruby’s name is quite literally taken from that stage). Naming them for these stages shows a dual purpose: while Ruby is the central character, she needs her team around her, and Team RWBY will save the world together. Team JNR is also a part of the stages, but I’ll get to what they represent later on.
Jung associated each of the major stages with a major archetype. The major stages can be further broken up into a total of seven or twelve or even fourteen stages. Most commonly you’ll see George Ripley’s Twelve Gates referenced, and I believe that’s what RWBY is referencing as well since its allusions are pretty perfect. The "gates” or stages also sometimes overlap, especially when different characters might be at different stages.
Nigredo: Seasons 1-3
Alchemy begins by gathering the prima materia, or raw material. The characters assembling in season 1 is more of the gathering than the actual transformative process. But once we hit season 2, we dive straight into the process.
Calcination occurs during the climax of season 2, during the fight on the train. Season 3 contains dissolution, or the washing of impurities through the exposure of certain secrets (like the fall maiden) as well as the literal dissolution of Beacon Academy, and separation (the end of the season, when Team RWBY is scattered).
Narratively, Jung associated nigredo with the shadow, with someone’s dark night of the soul, their low point. In historical artistic depictions, often part of nigredo is dismemberment... which happens to Yang when she saves Blake from Adam. See, Splendor Solis:
Tumblr media
The goal of the shadow is that it should be integrated with, accepted, rather than denied. Facing the shadow is a necessary part of growth and ultimate transformation... and the point is, through facing the shadow, hope and light come.
Peacock’s Tail: Seasons 4-5
Tumblr media
Okay, I lied, there are sometimes five phases in alchemy. At the very end of nigredo, just before albedo, there is sometimes a flash of light, of rainbows and colors, that give hope. It’s not quite a phase, more of a moment, but it’s referred to as the peacock’s tail. While this is less plot-related, it does make sense that this is the point in the story where Team RJNR is formed. Why? Because look at their colors:
Ruby: red, black
Jaune: yellow, blue
Ren: green, purple
Nora: white, pink, orange
Between them we’ve pretty much got the full rainbow.
Tumblr media
We also have, in Blake’s arc, the introduction of Ilia Amitola, whose last name is the Souix word for “rainbow.”
Albedo: Seasons 5-7
Albedo is associated with the anima or animus, or the part of ourselves that we are lacking (it’s generally gendered as the male within a female and the female within a male, but please understand he’s not talking literally and more in terms of traditional qualities ascribed as feminine or masculine that we may repress), which more than fits the fact that this stage begins while team RJNR is literally wandering around a continent called Anima.
Conjunction is a term in which all the separated parts that can be salvaged from the Nigredo come together. Obviously the main incident for this is the fight at the end of volume 5, but I’d argue it overlaps a bit with volume 4 and even with separation.
The characters are only able to come together again once they’ve accepted aspects of their shadows. Yang deals with hers in Raven and Blake with the White Fang. Nora and Ren’s fight at their home village represents them dealing with their shadow as well, and also relates to conjunction because conjunction is the stage where the first chemical wedding comes into play. A chemical wedding is the joining of alchemical partners, and while I’ll probably discuss ships in another post (there’s a lot of set up alchemy-wise), I’ll just reference the obvious one here:
Tumblr media
The fountain image and a person shooting arrows is some pretty uncannily similar imagery to the fight at Nora and Ren’s home village.
Next up in albedo is putrefication (focus on death and rotting). We see this with the encounter with the Apathy, who look like skeletons, cause death, etc. We’re also introduced to Maria Calaveras, aka the Grimm Reaper. (Her last name also means “skull” aka the white results of putrefication).
Tumblr media
Congelation requires a lot of water, and we see this in the focus on Atlas, wherein snow (water) is everywhere. The point of congelation is to separate the thin from the thick, the latter of which will of course become the Philosopher’s Stone. We see this through Team RWBY’s break with the Ace-Ops (aka the Aesops), whose simplistic morality and rule-following are not going to bring about character growth or eternal life.
Citrinitas: Volume 7-?
Citrinitas focuses on the light, or fire. That immediately after congelation, a giant whale brimming with yellow appears in the white-colored Atlas is not a coincidence. Citrinitas is associated with the sage or the wise old man/woman, so Maria and Pietro fill this role.
Tumblr media
The first stage of citrinitas is cibation, which involves feeding with fresh material. I’d actually say that it seems quite possible cibation overlaps with congelation, in that there is a focus on food and on training with the Ace-Ops early in Volume 7. The next phases are sublimation and fermentation. I can see potential for sublimation in that it essentially is when solid becomes air (think of the setting of Atlas), but it’s too soon to say what this means for the plot.
Fermentation, though... well, things will get worse before they get better. :’)
Rubedo:
Finally, Rubedo is associated with the fully individualized self. We can assume each of the main seven will come into their own, confident of whom they are. Oscar should, as well, and probably will have fully control over his body by the end (ie Oz will likely... find rest or whatever).
The stages of rubedo are exaltation (the creation of the stone after two contraries meet), multiplication (the stones’ properties increase), and projection (the stone’s abilities are projected over the entire world, aka presumably RWBY will save the world).
The most common way to display multiplication is through, well, a lot of couplings. It’s why the main characters ending single seems extremely unlikely to me. Even if it seems a fairy tale ending, well.... *gestures to everything about RWBY being inspired by fairy tales* Fairy tales were also often alchemy based. But ships will get their own meta, because I actually don’t really ship much besides Renora and am for once not super invested in anything, but I can see the set-up for four or five ships.
I also want to highlight the other symbolic names that stood out to me:
Tumblr media
Ironwood. While I know Ironwood references the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz (tin being one of seven metals associated with alchemy), his name also references a second metal: Iron. Tin and Iron are the two of the three basest metals in alchemy (the other is lead). Iron in particular is ruled by Mars, the god of war, meaning it is associated with violence. It’s not a coincidence that pretty much from the second Ironwood is introduced, the concept of war comes up, and his entire character has gone on to be the embodiment of the military and violence.
Tai Xiao Long. His name literally means “sun,” and Ruby’s mother is defined by her silver eyes (silver being a color traditionally associated with the moon). Ruby is thus considered the child of the Solar King and Lunar Queen, two mythical alchemical figures who together create the “Philosophical Child,” or the personified philosopher’s stone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pietro Polendina: his name literally means “stone,” and Penny is his philosopher’s stone. Penny is arguably a reference to copper, another of the seven metals, as copper references compassion and love, which seems like Penny to me.
Qrow and Raven Branwen: crows and ravens are symbolic of nigredo, or the black phase; death, decay, etc. However, within the story I think Qrow and Raven fulfill this role as the Jungian shadows of hunters as a whole and of Yang.
Sun Wukong: obviously a reference to the sun.
Emerald Sustrai: Emerald is a reference to the Emerald Tablet, which in alchemical lore is a tablet containing the secrets of alchemy, as written down by Hermes (in legend). Hermes is, of course, Mercury. Everything about alchemy stems from the Emerald Tablet, so Emerald should be important. In addition, green is the color of the prima materia, so it references Emerald’s arc in being shaped and molded by Cinder.
Tumblr media
Mercury Black: Mercury as the mythological god is the legendary founder of alchemy, so like, he’s important. Mercury is also the third most important metal in alchemy, after gold and silver. It is necessary to achieving the philosopher’s stone so, like Emerald, Mercury is probably important. Mercury is of particular note because mercurial characters are common in alchemical literature: they make stuff happen. Think of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, for example. Mercury transcends death symbolically (you can see the roots of this in Mercury’s backstory with his assassin father): it is difficult to pin down and can quickly shift from liquid to solid. Thus, in alchemy, mercury can shift between life and death.
Tumblr media
Mercury is also a noted servant of the white queen. I initially thought this a surface reference to Salem’s appearance, and it might be, but Salem is more associated with a black queen in the recurring chess motif, and I don’t see Mercury staying on her side (mercury isn’t fixed, after all; that’s its central tenet), so I kind of wonder if the “white queen” will be later revealed. Or maybe it just is a surface mention.

Qrowin Week 2021: 6/21-Childhood Friends AU
Two little snowbirds sitting in a row
They met in the garden at one of her father’s lavish parties. She’d gone outside because little girls didn’t like being told to sit still and not talk nor do anything fun, so she decided she didn’t care if the dress daddy bought her got messy, she’d go outside and spend time in the hedge maze.
They’d gotten it installed, in the shape of the Schnee family crest no less, because the Marigolds had one in the shape of their family crest and daddy could be silly about when people had things he didn’t.
The white roses that grew from the foliage walls, fragrant and delicate, were always calming to her, especially on a cool and cloudless night like this when the moonlight was at its brightest.
For Winter, to get lost in its lush corridors and marble statuary, it’s hidden gardens and fountains would be enough to get the annoyance of her father’s party out of her mind.
Most of that went out of her head when she found a grungy boy in a cape stuffing his face with what looked like a rabbit.
He stared at her, like an animal in a vehicle’s headlights, bits of his meal hanging from his mouth.
He couldn’t be older than her, gaunt with gunsmoke-colored hair stuck up at odd angles and eyes like carbuncles.
The clothes he wore were grubby and layered and obviously used long before he’d begun wearing them, especially that tattered cape.
For a moment, neither spoke, merely staring at one another in the moonlight.
Finally, Winter broke the silence.
“That’s disgusting.”
The boy dropped the rabbit from his mouth.
“Sorry if I’m not fancy enough for you, Miss Uppity.”
Winter felt her cheeks heat with indignation.
“How dare you!”
The boy threw back his head and laughed, a sound that reminded Winter of a pair of birds she’d once heard fighting in the yard.
“Is that all it takes to get under that pale skin!” he laughed, a sound which soon died in his throat when his stomach made a loud groan.
Winter huffed as he reached for the dead rabbit.
“Wait here and don’t touch that,” she said, turning on her heel.
She returned with two plates piled high with hors d'oeuvres.
“I didn’t know what you liked,” she said, handing him one, “so I got you one of everything.”
The boy said nothing, just shoveling food into his mouth in a way that probably promoted choking.
“You’re welcome,” Winter said, sitting down and spearing a piece of salmon on a toothpick to eat.
The boy coughed, pounding his chest.
“You shouldn’t eat so fast,” Winter said, “you’ll get sick.”
“Well, some of us don’t know when our next meal is gonna be,” he said.
His words brought back to Winter the memory of her father sending her to bed with no supper when he found she’d invited a faunus over to play, with threats of no breakfast if she didn’t break it off with the girl tomorrow.
“You might be surprised,” Winter said.
The boy said something through a mouthful of hummace.
“What was that?” Winter asked.
The boy swallowed.
“I’m Qrow,” he said.
Winter smiled.
“I’m Winter.”
One named Winter
She saw him on days when it wasn’t raining or snowing after that. The family he lived with (his “Tribe” as he called them) were camped out in the woods behind their house, the ones nobody would let daddy cut down.
At night, he told her, they danced and played instruments and drank until the early hours of the morning.
Winter never really cared for people who drank (her mother’s growing dependence on liquor was a factor in this) but Qrow never really showed up smelling like wine, so she supposed associating with him was no trouble.
It was also refreshing that he never stood on ceremony.
He never rolled his eyes at her when she spoke of wanting to learn fencing or told her how things were supposed to be when she complained about how someone (usually daddy) was being unfair.
He also taught her new games that were much more fun than anything that the boys and girls daddy introduced her knew.
Kick the can, stickball, and he played hide and seek and tag with her. And he’d tell her all about the places he’d been. Mistral, Vacuo, Menagerie, his tribe had traveled all over Remnant.
And while he could be crass, she still remembered seeing the way he rescued a baby bird from a stray cat and returning it to its nest with the tenderest care.
Or how when she complained of how her father was so bossy and so dumb, that he listened. Didn’t judge, didn’t criticize, just listen.
And sometimes, it was enough to know that they’d meet once a week, at night, in the hedge maze.
One named Qrow
She wasn’t what he expected.
Sure, she told him annoying things like “don’t slouch, eat slower, no burping, don’t pull up the flowers—no! I don’t need them, put them back!”
But she never called him weak. She never said he should practice more like his sister did.
Winter gave him food, and listened to his stories and ideas, and never asked if he wanted to fight. Sometimes, they would even just sit together.
She even taught him how to read; starting with big letters scratched in the dirt with a stick, before lending him books that they could read together.
Mr. Bruin is a Shoe-in was the first he read all by himself. And he was so happy when she let him keep it afterwards.
And she never told him to stop being so dumb, like his sister did.
And sometimes, it was enough to know that they’d meet once a week, at night, in the hedge maze.
Fly away, Winter!
Their shouts bring the servants running. All they saw was Winter on her knees, face in her hands as she wept piteously.
If only they’d come a few minutes earlier, then they could have seen the argument in all it’s glory. Voices rough from the volume and occasionally cracking, tears streaming down their faces, they weren’t that little boy and girl anymore.
He’d grown lanky and lean, she taller and with longer hair.
But they didn’t care right then.
She’d told him she was joining the military.
He said his tribe would be moving and asked if she wanted to join them instead of some stupid army.
She said it was a noble profession.
He said only for assholes.
She defended her position.
He reiterated his opinion.
She shouted at him, asking why couldn’t he be happy for her.
He shouted at her what would be wrong with going with him.
She said something about duty.
He told her to shut up, that he didn’t want to hear duty again in his whole life.
She told him that if he was going to act like a filthy little boy, then he could go off and sulk like one.
He said he wished he’d never met her and hoped she enjoyed killing people.
Arguments like that, they learned, ended with no winners.
Fly away, Qrow!
That was the end of the time Qrow considered himself happy. Life seemed to plan for him a long drawn out death, bracketed with disappointments and tragedy’s.
Transformation
The death of friends.
The death of family.
The horrors of war.
Secrets and betrayal.
Abandonment.
And the drink
So, so much to drink.
It didn’t fix anything. It didn’t make him feel more human. But it kept the nightmares at bay. It kept him as a predictable disappointment rather than an out-of-the-blue-never-seen-that-kind-of-train-wreck-before disappointment.
But the worst part of the drink, thought, was that no matter how many shots he took, no matter how many chasers. Black liquor, brown liquor, red wine, white wine, it didn’t matter. Melancholy brought back visions of that girl from that time he had been happy.
Come back, Winter!
First impressions had never come easy to Qrow. So really, it should be no surprise that impression number 15 the horrible sequel nobody wanted or needed.
But really, denying common sense by chucking an empty whisky bottle at James Ironwood’s head was not only pointless, it was utterly puerile. He was drunk. He was upset that his latest search for intel on Salem had turned up next to nothing, he was itching for a fight and if that pompous wannabe hero wanted to take it up with him, that was fine.
Except he hadn’t expected the woman by his side to turn out to be someone familiar. Someone he hadn’t seen since he was a dumb, romantic, fifteen-year-old kid.
Someone whose reappearance upset his stomach enough that he emptied it onto the general’s uniform and shoes. With enough force to make his eyes water.
The woman in the Atlesian uniform said she would take care of him and asked another girl, another white haired girl, where their room was.
As they walked towards Beacon, he thought he heard her say “Qrow Branwen, what has the world done to you?”
Come back, Qrow!
Qrow awoke to a cold rag on his forehead.
“Lie still,” she said, “I think you got a hold of some rockgut.”
“More like rockgut got a hold of me.”
Qrow’s attempt at humor was met with a scowl.
“Gee, you got frosty.”
“And you became an alcoholic,” she said, wringing out the cloth into a nearby basin.
Qrow looked away from her and to the wall, as if a better retort than her’s existed there.
“It eases the pain,” he said.
“No it doesn’t,” Winter said. She threw the rag into the basin, causing the water to splash.
“Qrow, my mother is an alcoholic. It doesn’t fix anything! It just makes you want more of what’s essentially fermented grass!”
“You don’t think I know that!” Qrow snapped. Tears pricked at his eyes and his heart sank when he saw the hurt in her eyes from his tone, something he hadn’t seen there since their last meeting.
“There are nights when no matter how much I drink, I still can’t forget the loss of all the people around me and how--”
He paused and swallowed.
“How everyone is just one day going to leave me!”
Tears were starting to fall as all the regrets he’d kept at bay with drink and fighting and everythng else he could find came rushing back into him and coiling around his lungs.
“I’m bad luck, Winter,” he said, “I lost my sister, my tribe, I lost the people I care about, and every day, it’s missions, missions, and missions to find an enemy I don’t even know exists.”
His shoulders were shaking and he remembered his sister, back when they were little, telling him how ‘boys don’t cry.’
God, Winter must think he’s so pathetic.
Instead, she took him by the shoulders and gently brought him into her embrace.
“It’s alright,” she said, “just let it out. Get it all out.”
Not knowing what else to do, Qrow gripped the back of her uniform and sobbed into her shoulder, years’ worth of pain and loneliness deep inside him rising to the surface and finally escaping. And the pressure went with it.
At some point, they ended up lying together on the bed (wait, were they in a bunk bed?), still in each other’s arms.
“We all have regrets,” Winter said, “things we said. Things we wish we could take back.”
Her hand tightens on his shirt and his hand closes around it.
“But, if you really want to know, if I could do it over...”
Please say it, he wanted to think, but every time he had thoughts like that, life saw fit to swat him down again.
“I would go with you. Even if after the first day, I went back home, I think I would go with you.”
Qrow felt his heart swell and suddenly, he didn’t feel so sick anymore.
“And... if you wanted to start over... I would like that too.”
“I still have Mr. Bruin,” Qrow said.
He didn’t know why he said that. She never asked about the book, never said “Qrow, what kind of literature do you normally read?”
Whatever the reason, Winter looked up at him, shocked.
“Still? I thought you would’ve thrown that away.”
Qrow looked down at her, eyes glassy.
“I tried a few times. But I just couldn’t get rid of something that reminded me of you. It’s missing the page where Mr. Bruin loses his boot, but I tried to keep it safe.”
Winter’s hand rises to his cheek and Qrow leans into it, the human contact easing the hole in his soul he’s tried to fill with booze.
“I’m sorry I didn’t turn out as someone you could be proud of.”
“The fact that you kept that book tells me everything I need to know.”
Later that night, Winter’s sister and Qrow’s niece would get the shock of their lives when they enetered their room and saw the two of them sleeping on Weiss’s bed together.

RWBY HPTR AU: Timeline
More of my embarrassingly self-indulgent AU. It tackles the timeline of events happening before the show starts. For those for who it's the first time here: most of the antagonists in the show are students at Beacon here, hence why the 63 A.G.W. point is probably a bit confusing, as well as the presence of many, many OCs. Warning: Very Ozpin-centric, especially at the beginning, because I'm insane and constructed a whole backstory for this man. If you want me to add something to the timeline, or have questions about the AU, just ask. ^^
(REFERENCE: A.G.W. stands for After Great War.)
34 A.G.W.: Ozborn Pinhead is born to con-artists living in the mountains of Vale.
45 A.G.W.: King Ozymandias Valenoa dies. On a side-note, Aura Lycoris is born.
46 A.G.W.: Ozymandias/Ozma reincarnates into Ozborn the moment he hits puberty. A few months later, Ozborn runs away from home to join a Collibet Monastery.
(REFERENCE: Collibet is branch of religion in the world of Remnant. It's followers' main belief is that life is to be enjoyed to it's fullest, and they have to help people enjoy it. Their worship is mainly centered on the God of Light.)
51 A.G.W.: Ozborn decides to enroll in Beacon for multiple reasons. He's placed in Team DSOO with Cadmium Duat, Zephyr Olympia, and Jade Sheng. He will become very close to Jade, almost like siblings. She's the one who coins the Ozpin nickname.
52 A.G.W.: Vytal festival happens in Haven. Ozborn ends up being finalist instead of his teammate through circumstances that went against his will, and ends up befriending fellow finalist from Shade Theodore Yellowstone, as well as a Faunus competitor from Haven called Leonardo Lionheart. Theodore is the winner.
53 A.G.W.: During a training mission that brought them to Solitas, Team DSOO ends up working with James Ironwood. Even if difficult to work with, Ozborn forms a tentative friendship with him, which they'll maintain through CCT communications. Ozborn also accidently ends up mentoring a first year named Glynda Goodwitch.
54 A.G.W.: Team STRQ enrolls in Beacon. Ozborn ends up being their mentor (intentionally this time) through a mentorship program at Beacon. Summer Rose is the winner of the Vytal Festival, having beaten Ironwood. After warning them that the truth isn't pretty, Ozborn comes clean about his cycle of reincarnation to Jade, STRQ, Glynda, Theodore, Lionheart and Ironwood, as well as Salem and her immortality. The only one unwilling to get involved is Taiyang Xiao Long, who can see that Ozborn absolutely does not want to be in this situation, thinks he's in way over his head and probably needs to take some distance from Huntsman business. Qrow and Raven are given their bird powers.
55 A.G.W.: Having taken Taiyang's opinion on the situation to heart, Ozborn decides to take a step back and go back in the Monastery he grew up in in order to become a Priest. Jade joins him in a show of support.
57 A.G.W.: Ozborn gets ordained, and he and Jade promptly go on a pilgrimage together with one very clear objective in mind: fuck Salem over. They find her at the end of the year, successfully lie to Salem about Ozborn's identity and fool her into thinking they want to join her side. On a side note, Gretchen Reinhart, Hazel Reinhart and Winter Schnee are all born.
58 A.G.W.: After getting out of Salem the secret to her immortality and the location of the God of Light's pool/former residence, Ozborn and Jade run away in the night in order for Ozborn to get similar immortality. Salem finds out about the betrayal, successfully kills Jade before Ozborn can go in the pool, and permanently cripples him with a magical attack that destroys his leg in a way that the pool's magic isn't able to completely fix. Ozborn still obtains immortality, permanently changing the game. He also sheds away the identity of Ozborn Pinhead, and renames himself after Jade's nickname for him.
59 A.G.W.: Ozpin comes back, and marries Taiyang, Raven Branwen and Summer Rose together. He also enrolls in Beacon as the Myth & Religion teacher.
60 A.G.W.: Desperate to get back at Ozpin after such an humiliating defeat, Salem takes a teenage Aura Lycoris under her wing.
62 A.G.W.: Aura starts the deep-undercover operation of gaining Ozpin's trust, starting by enrolling into Beacon.
63 A.G.W.: Yang Xiao Long, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladona, Jaune Arc, Pyrrha Nikos, Nora Valkyrie, Lie Ren, Arthur Watts, Tyrian Callows, Cinder Fall, Mercury Black, Emerald Sustrai, Roman Brunswick, Trivia Vanille, Ochre Wedjat, Raoul Arsenic, Wilhemia Key and Lys Rosenbed are all born. On a side-note, Ozpin and Qrow start a tentative romantic relationship at the end of the year.
65 A.G.W.: Ruby Rose is born.
66 A.G.W.: Aura graduates, and goes on a small pause in her mission in order to clean up some loose ends on Salem's part.
67 A.G.W.: Summer dies on a mission gone wrong (Unless/until we get something specific, Aura's partially responsible in my AU). Overwhelmed and disillusioned by the demise of the woman she loved, Raven abandons the rest of her family and goes back to the Branwen tribe. Both Taiyang and Qrow are left broken by this series of events, and Qrow ends up falling to alcoholism, leaving Ozpin to pick up the broken pieces of the inner circle. On a side note, both Oscar Pine and Whitley Schnee are born.
68 A.G.W.: Following a convoluted series of events that leaves Oscar orphaned for a total of maybe an hour before Ozpin adopts him, the wizard finally starts getting his shit back together, and starts formulating a plan to get back on his feet properly. On a side-note, Marcus Black steals his son's- Mercury- Semblance.
69 A.G.W.: Ozpin successfully becomes Beacon's headmaster, and promptly pulls strings to put Theodore, Lionheart and Ironwood in the same positions in their respective kingdoms. He also makes Glynda into his successor to the position. Meanwhile, Aura joins his staff as the Study Hall teacher/supervisor. Kuroyuri is destroyed by the Nuckelavee, orphaning Lie Ren and Nora Valkyrie.
72 A.G.W.: Mountain Glenn is destroyed. Ozpin is able to save a few people at the last minute, including the Reinhart twins, thus inspiring Gretchen to become a Huntress. On a side note, James Ironwood becomes General, and thus Atlas' Chief of Armies, and gains a second seat on the Atlesian Council. The rest of the inner circle has mixed feelings about this, mostly negative.
73 A.G.W.: After a very long time of frustration at the Atlesian Council, Hagatha Greene snaps after a combination of her project being denied in favor of Pietro's, and being forced to work with an actual child (10 years old Arthur Watts). She's approached by Salem via Aura, and fakes her death. On a side note, the Brunswick farm is invaded by Apathy, forcing Roman to run away. He'll later stow himself away to Vale and rename himself Torchwick in order to cut ties with his past.
74 A.G.W.: Lionheart is forced to inform the Spring Maiden about what Salem can do. Overwhelmed, she runs away to the Branwen tribe. Lionheart himself latter approached by Greene, who more-or-less blackmails him into joining Salem. He calls Ozpin to know what he's supposed to do, and ends up becoming a double-agent. On a side-note, Gretchen signs up for Beacon, and Winter for Atlas in her first step to distance herself from her family.
76 A.G.W.: Gretchen is severely wounded on a training mission. Since her body was never found, it was assumed she died. Despite knowing that he'd probably be attacked on sight- and he was- Ozpin is able to provide Hazel with a bit of peace concerning the demise of his sister. Unknown to the both of them, Gretchen was actually found by Salem's circle and brought to her in order to get a new underling. On a side-note, the Spring Maiden dies and passes the power to Raven.
77 A.G.W.: Cinder and Arthur meet off-handedly while running away from Atlas for different reasons (Cinder is running from the Madame, Arthur from the military) due to sneaking on the same cargo ship. They separate after. Cinder ends up staying in Mistral, while Arthur wanders around Anima and ends up meeting Tyrian, who's part of a circus. Tyrian ends up following Arthur, who intends on getting to Vale as fast as possible. The two end up becoming fast friends after some initial frostiness. Trivia also runs away from home and meets Roman, and renames herself Neopolitan after the imaginary friend she had in her childhood.
78 A.G.W.: Cinder meets Emerald in the streets of Mistral, and the two bond over their dreams of becoming Huntresses. After Cinders remembers something Arthur told her about Beacon having a program for students like them, the two girls set off for Beacon.
79 A.G.W.: Marcus is hired to assassinate Ozpin, and fails in this task. Some time after, Cinder and Emerald, who recently got to Vale, cross path with Mercury, who's running away from his abusive father after a savage fight with him due to the man cutting off his legs. Marcus joins Salem after.
(AMBIGUOUS TIME PERIOD: Somewhere in the 70s, Aura found and started forming all the members of Team ORKL. I don't have a precise time period, but for those curious, the order she found them in was: Raoul, Lys, Ochre and Whilemia.)
80 A.G.W.: The story starts.

Ren’s Discovery
Ren: Jaune?
Jaune: Yeah.
Ren: I was on the computer.
Jaune: Okay so-
Ren: I've seen it.
Jaune: *raises an eyebrow* What did you see?
Ren: Us.
Jaune: *relieved* Oh thank brothers, you meant just all age approiate fan-
Ren: On rule 34.
Jaune: Crap it was to good to be true. Okay, what's up?
Ren: I saw Qrow having sex with Nora.
Jaune: Okay. And?
Ren: And!? Jaune she was drawn having sex with Qrow.
Jaune: Yeah. So was Ruby, Gylda and Winter. So what?
Ren: Jaune you don't understand--
Jaune: Ren?
Ren: I mean what if Nora descides-
Jaune: Ren!?
Ren: I mean maybe I should---
Jaune: Ren, calm down, rule 34 does everyone like that!
Ren: Really?
Jaune: YES! Dude, I'm basically screwing Pyrrha, Ruby, Yang, Weiss, Nora, and Blake! Including you and Oscar!
Ren: Me and Oscar? That's kind of-
Jaune: Insane? Crazy? Fucked up? Kind of devinant? Yeah, that's rule34. No character in any series is safe from it.
Ren: No character?
Jaune: No character. Dude, some people drew me doing it with Cinder and Emerald, Pyrrha's mom, my own sister, and even with Cardin.
Ren: But I got-
Jaune: Cucked? Basically cheated on? Yeah join the club pal. People will do that. I been through it. (I also make sure Ruby never finds that out.) And don't blame the artist most of them are doing a job while few are just because! The point is rule34 is literally porn with characters from the show acting like porn stars. Basically don't take it too serious just admire the detail and the work the artist put into their stuff.
Ren: So nothing is true?
Jaune: Non-canon. Imagination. That's it.
Ren: So I can still-
Jaune: Stick your sword in Nora? Yes.
Ren: *relieved* Oh thank you.
Jaune: *sigh* Man. Glad you feel better. But since we're on the subject, be lucky you are not team RWBY.
Ren: Why? I mean they got most drawings.
Jaune: Yeah. Of them being horny, big penis sized fuck girls who would let anyone or anything smash them. Trust me, if they saw what you saw they be going crazy.
Ren: *nervously* Oh. Um... Jaune?
Jaune: What?
Ren: I left the computer on.
Jaune: *exe stopped working and rebooted* OOOHHH SHIT!!
Jaune and Ren run to the computer only to be too late. Team RWBY and Nora saw everything. Every image of them doing sexual things with strangers, eachother and their families. Yang was angry, Weiss was discussitsted, Blake embarassed beyond belief, Nora a bit unphased but Ruby feeling very ashamed of herself.
Jaune: Okay. Girls? Ladies? Mature young women? Listen, I get this looks bad but... I mean... well...
Yang: I'm going to kill them! *trys to walk away only for Jaune to stop her*
Jaune: NO YANG IT'S JUST FICTIONAL PORN.
Yang: SCREW THAT! THEY CRIMATED MY SISTER AS HOOKER!!
Ren: I mean red riding hood did have darker stories with-.
Jaune: REN, YOU ARE NOT HELPING!!!
Ruby: *in tears* Is this what everyone thinks of me? As some girl who can't control her urges. As some kind of slut.
Yang: SEE!? JUST FOR THAT, I'LL MAKE THEIR DEATHS SLOW AND PAINFUL!!
Jaune: *while being hit by Yang* Look Ruby, i-i-it's not that ba-
Weiss: How could people draw me like this?
Nora: I mean you do have an ego the size of that thing.
Jaune: NORA!!
Weiss: HOW DARE YOU!!!?
Blake: Wait didn't we see a few pictures with you and Jaune doing it?
Nora: I mean, if Pyrrha and Ren weren't going to shoot their shot then I'll shoot mines.
Ren: Oh so would sleep with Jaune!?
Jaune: Damn it, come on people, can someone help me!? Yang, is trying to kill somebody. Please, Yang, calm down!
Yang: NEVER!!
Oscar: Hey.
RWBY and JN_R stop what there doing to see Oscar and Penny.
Jaune: *scared* Oh no.
Penny: What's going on here? Why is Jaune holding Yang?
Jaune tells eveyone to play along.
Jaune: I'm just giving Yang a hug. Right, Yang?
Yang: Y-Yeah. Oh Jaune I love you so much.
Oscar: *looks to Ruby* Ruby, why is there tears coming out your eyes?
Ruby: *staring at the computer and Oscar back and forth* Umm just something on the web. You know... a sad video.
Penny: Really, oh Ruby, let's watch it together if you can't handle it.
Weiss: No-no-no just stay right there.
Oscar: But why?
Ren: Oscar, i-it's just-
Oscar sees everyone look at the computer. Penny sees this well and stares Oscar who agrees as he nods his head. Penny rush in and takes the computer only for her and Oscar to be stunned at the results. Oscar then sees his name and was ready to click on the link however-
Jaune: Oscar wait!
Oscar: ...
Jaune: Listen. Buddy there are times when a man or woman will sometimes have to let things go. Trust me, when I say, this, is right now the time to walk away and leave with your inncocence still attached. Oscar, please, don't click the link with your name on it.
Oscar: Oh how bad could it be?
Oscar clicks the link only to regret it in the end. He saw horrible images of himself and then proceeds to lye down on the floor and crys.
Oscar: I've been a good boy haven't I? I don't deserve this, do I? Did I do something horrible to deserve this? Why? Why?
Ruby: *comforts him* It's okay Oscar. We'll get through this together. *starts crying again with Oscar*
Jaune: Damn it.
Penny: *confused* I don't see the problem. I thought sex was a natural process for humans.
Jaune was about to explain only for Yang to wave her head and stopping him, knowing Penny would ask a bunch of questions if he tries to explain.
Nora: But to be clear, I still stand by to what I said, I would bang you Jaune.
Jaune: Okay, Nora, we get it. But like I said it's fiction, no one would do-
Blake: Jaune, let me be honest, I would do you if Pyrrha, Sun, Ilia or Yang weren't around.
Yang: Same here. You are nice guy.
Ren: No denying it.
Nora: *smile* Oh Ren!
Ren: Hey I being honest.
Weiss: Okay, perverts, but I wouldn't-
Jaune: *nervously* Yeah... Weiss... um... how do I put this?
Weiss: Jaune, not you too.
Ruby: *sobbing* Weiss you still have a big ego.
Weiss: Okay but still, I may have hated Jaune but I would never-
Jaune tairs Yang's shirt off, revealing her chest.
Yang: Jaune!
Weiss: *blushes*
Jaune: Guilty as charged.
Weiss: Shut up!
Blake: But would you screw Jaune?
Weiss: Oh gosh n-
Nora tears off Jaune's pants, revealing is sword and butt.
Jaune: Really Nora?
Weiss: *blushes brighter than before* You guys are mean. *walks off*
Yang: *staring at Jaune's 'sword'* Aren't you going to cover up?
Jaune:*staring at Yang's breast* Why haven't you?
Yang: You can look but never touch.
Jaune: Touche.
Ren/Blake: Will you both cover up. Please? I don't want look at Jaune's/Yang's dick/breast all day.
Nora: Admit it, you both like it.
Ren and Blake: Shut up Nora!

Firen Lhain: Chapter 804: Phoenix:  Part I / III
Fed, dressed, and caffeinated, RWBY + JNR sat around the table with their cards in their hand. A tiny noise could be heard.
"I do believe we are under attack." Ren voiced.
"You call that an attack?" Yang asked, "More like a cry for attention."
Ren's face was slightly judgemental before returning to a much more neutral look. "Indeed."
"Aurora?" Weiss asked.
"Mistress." Aurora affirmed, and walked passed the table to the staircase.
"Aurora was here?" Nora asked, "She's like always here."
"Indeed." Ren stated.
"Almost as much of a stalker as Ilia." Nora continued.
"That's your cue to come out." Blake said, and a Ilia returned to her ordinary colouration, appearing in the nude.
"Oh, shit, I mean, Hi Ilia, I mean?.." Nora tried to say.
"I assure you she meant no offence." Ren said from beside her.
"No." Ilia said. "I don't know why I would take offence. Honestly, I do have a terrible habit of stalking Jaune..."
"I wouldn't say terrible." Jaune said to her, and she looked at him with disbelief.
"Why Jaune?" Ruby asked her.
"Because he gives me strength?" Ilia asked, "How to describe it? He is solid."
"That he is." Yang added.
"Implacable." Ren added.
"And he is the one who has most taken me under his wing." Ilia stated.
"He has indeed done that." Weiss added.
"I'm so sorry..." Blake pleaded, but Ilia held up her hand. There was a pregnant silence as she breathed in deeply.
"You don't have to apologize." Ilia stated, "I know what I asked for. I know that you denied me. I know that you don't want to give me the false impression. I understand why you want to keep me at a distance. I'm following you because I don't have any other choice."
"You don't need to..." Blake tried to say.
"I'm not doing it because I don't have a choice." Ilia pleaded, "I just don't know what choice to make."
"She's here to learn how to choose?" Ruby asked.
"That seems a decent summary." Weiss stated.
"I fell for Adam." Ilia continued, "Not like Blake did, personally, no, I fell for him spiritually."
"Personally, she fell for Blake, right?" Nora asked. Ren sighed while placing a hand on her shoulder, letting out a grumbling affirmation.
"I know how toxic, and diseased, and destructive, and spiteful Adam is." Ilia said. "I just need help finding the difference between him, and what we thought he was."
"Which was?" Nora asked.
"Justice." Blake stated. Ilia nodded.
"Jaune might not be justice, but he his fairness." Ilia said, "And maybe that's what I need help with?" she asked.
"And for the record," Jaune interjected, "while she might - technically - be stalking me, like all the time, I actually count on it, nowadays."
"Indeed?" Weiss asked.
"Well, it has saved me a couple of times." Jaune said.
"He does have like a really good point." Yang added.
"Question?" Nora said, raising her hand, and everyone turned to look at her, "If Ilia gets to be naked, does that mean the rest of us get to be naked, or is she like special?"
Everyone looked at Jaune as he hung his head in his hands. He then breathed in deep as he looked at Nora. "You know what?, she is special." Jaune stated, and Nora seemed to accept that.
"Because it's for her Semblance?" Ruby asked, and Jaune nodded. "That makes sense."
"So?" Yang asked, "Just so we're clear, everyone can wear less clothes because of their Semblance, right?"
"From the girl wearing short-shorts and a tube top?" Blake asked.
"Didn't see you complaining." Yang replied.
"Not complaining." Blake voiced.
"Then what?" Nora asked.
"I believe," Ren interjected, "she is pointing out that Yang is already, shall we say, scandalously dressed?
"You judging, yo?" Yang asked him.
"Not in the slightest." Ren said with a smile.
"Sorry." Yang replied, "You're just like really hard to read. Still weird having Jaune staring at a naked woman who's not, you know, us?"
"I concur." Weiss stated. "Though I am perhaps not as well advised about relationships such as ours."
"Meaning?" Ruby asked.
"We're writing the rules as we go along." Blake stated.
"I'm pretty sure not staring at other naked women should be one of them." Yang added.
"It's not like he told her to get naked?" Ruby asked.
"Alright, true." Yang replied. She then looked at Ilia, "If she's going to be naked and not, you know, chameleon, could she pretend to have clothes?"
Ilia shifted to give the impression we was wearing a teddy with stockings, garters, and long gloves.
"I am not sure if that is any better." Weiss stated, "Jaune-dear seems to be even more enthralled."
"Maybe General Ironbutt can come up with something?" Yang asked, and everyone glared at her. "General Ironheart?"
"Implying he has heart?" Qrow said as he walked into the room, followed quickly by Aurora. "I think your little friend has something to say to you."
"Indeed." Aurora stated. "It seems Cinder would like to speak to you."
"About?" Weiss asked as the others quickly stood up. She found Jaune standing up, who effortlessly lifted her to a standing position.
"Everything." Aurora simply stated.
"And Yang?" Qrow asked.
"Yeah?" Yang replied.
"I like Tinman." Qrow said with a smile.
"Okay, yeah, but General Tinman sounds kind of weird." Yang stated.
"Perhaps mechanical onomatopoeia?" Weiss asked.
"General Clank." Blake added, as the group turned to the stairs.
"I like it." Yang said, and stepped towards the stairs, and then paused, looking at Ilia. "And naked-butt?"
"She does like stalking me." Jaune casually said as he reached the stairs, causing Yang to do a double take.
"Shit, man, now that you've got confidence, I don't know if we can keep up with you?" Yang asked.
"The secret," Weiss quipped said from a few paces behind him, "is to anticipate his movements and respond before he makes them."
"Uh-huh?" Yang asked, "It sounds like Little Bit is rubbing off on you."
"Perhaps she is?" Weiss said with a light blue hue.
* * *
RWBY + JNR + Qrow, Ilia, and Aurora walked out into the garden.
"We apologize!" Emerald shouted.
"She might," Mercury interjected, "but I'm not! You didn't exactly give us a choice!"
"What?!" Jaune harshly shouted, "Do you want?!"
"To talk, obviously!" Cinder snapped.
"Maybe a little less bitter and harsh." Mercury voiced.
Cinder glared him before looking back to the others, trying her best to smile. Jaune walked towards her. "What did you want to talk about?"
"Oh, you know?," Cinder asked, "everything you hoped and feared."
"And why the hell are you waiting until now?!" Yang shouted.
"Last resort." Cinder stated. "I has hoping to just disappear, but what I'm going to say here will ensure that Salem hunts us to the end of Remnant."
Jaune looked between everyone else, and they all looked back at him. He looked at Salem for a moment. "I want Neo here." he said.
"How could you?" Emerald asked, and Cinder's good hand flew up to silence her. "I'm sorry."
* * *
Jaune walked down the stairs with his thunderous footfalls. Taiyang and Raven quickly jumped to their feet, Raven trying her best to act innocuous. Jaune looked at them curiously before giving Neo a questioning look. Neo puckered up her lips and made smooching noises. Jaune looked at Tai and Raven before shrugging, and walked up to Neo.
"Alright, so, long story short, Cinder's going to spill the beans." Jaune said, and paused, letting it sink in. She then looked at him questioningly. "I want you there?" She gave him a double take and then looked at him like he was the dumbest person in the world. "Maybe?" he asked. And she gave a him a shocked look. "But I don't want to kill you?" he asked, and she gave him the same look once again. "Okay, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to rip the cell bars off, and then I'm going to hug you, and if you're on your best behaviour, I'm going to tell you where we hid your possessions."
A hundred expressions passed Neo's face as she processed this information.
"Are you going to say anything?" Raven asked Taiyang.
"If it was up to me, they wouldn't have kept them in the first place." Taiyang nervously said. "I'm really just doing the best I can."
Jaune took a step towards the cell, and Neo's head snapped to him. Her conclusion was that he was obviously lying. Her faith waned slightly as he grabbed the first bar, and all of her senses failed her as he tore it off. Bars rained down behind him, bouncing around the room. Taiyang looked at them fearfully. Raven looked at them curiously. Neo had taken full leave of her senses, and it took some time for them to return. When they did she found herself in his arms, arms that seemed to encircle her completely. He then stepped away, and her thoughts had not caught up on her.
"Alright, so, the rules are simple, no trying to kill Cinder." Neo angrily protested. Jaune was turning away but paused and turned back, "Or Ruby." Neo angrily pouted.
"Well, whatever's happening," Raven said as Jaune turned around, "I think we should join the party." She then turned to follow Jaune.
"We both know how much of a party girl you are not." Taiyang said, turning to follow her. Raven tried to act angry but found herself smiling.
Everyone had arrived in the garden except Taj who was waiting in his airship, assuming that... something... was going to happen. Jaune walked into the centre of the garden, Neo trailing behind him, while on the other side Cinder walked in as well. It then started to rain.
"Oh, super!" Jaune shouted, "Don't I have such great luck!" he cried as the noise started reverberating off the walled garden.
"We can probably blame this one on me!" Qrow shouted.

Ozqrow week, Day 1
Daydreams/Nightmares
@ozqrowweek
Salt. Something, well, somewhere, smelled like salt. Under his feet he felt wood, against his hands he felt metal. He was here, but where was here? Why was he so disoriented? Surely he had to have recognized where he was, he seemingly knew where he was going. Panic shot through him, why? Why was he panicking? “Find them. Any necromancers that are found are to be thrown back into the prison and put on max security.” Oh. That’s why. He tried to run, he tried to something, anything, but his legs wouldn’t move. He didn’t even feel like he was breathing, maybe he wasn’t.
His arm was yanked and water rushed in.
Ozpin shot up in his bed, breathing heavily. But he wasn’t breathing out of panic, he didn’t even wake up because of the nightmare. His lungs soon screamed violently at him from the lack of oxygen, it seems he hadn’t been breathing after all. With a few shaky breaths Ozpin tried to steady himself.
He ran a dark green hand through his silver hair. What had he been expecting, falling asleep always meant nightmares, it’s why he didn’t sleep in the first place. What a fool he had been to think this night would be different from the others. Taking another deep breath, he turned and got out of bed, turned on a lamp and looked around. “Remember where you are.” He repeated mentally, he wasn’t back there, he was here now.
His seemingly empty gaze fell onto a cigar box. Gods he could use one right now, but Oscar hates the smell of smoke and to hell if Qrow will leave him alone about it. “Qrow...” the silverett thought, he hadn’t seen him for a week now, work does that to their time together. Although, it was his own fault for not checking on him. Perhaps Ozpin didn’t because he felt like he didn’t need to, perhaps he didn’t because he didn’t want to feel the rush of emotions everytime he heard his gravely voice, perhaps it was something else that he couldn’t quite place at the moment in his foggy mind.
Shaking his head he grabbed his Trenchcoat, threw it on, and headed outside. “Air, that’s what I need. Not smoke.” Ozpin tried to reassure to himself. Stepping out onto the leaf littered porch he soon realized he did not have shoes on, a minor inconvenience, but not a big deal. He stayed out there for a while, closing his eyes and listening to the colorful leaves rustle in the night time autumn breeze, imagining their vibrant oranges, yellows, purples and reds.
Ozpin smiled gently, this truly was his favorite time of year. It brings with it good memories, his first festival of spirits, his first autumn, and his first date with Qrow. The silveretts eyes shot open at the thought, before he chuckled to himself. It seems Someone in particular was infecting his thoughts tonight, although the Necromancer wasn’t complaining in the slightest.
Ozpin closed his eyes once more. Anything was better than thinking about the past, especially better if what he was thinking about was the people he loved. He gently chuckled again.
“What’s funny Ozzy?” A familiar gravelly voice called. Without opening his eyes, the silveretts smile grew “Well, you’re home quite late, aren’t you love?” Ozpin spoke quietly. Heavy footsteps approached him and caused the old wooden steps of the porch to creak.
Qrow looked him up and down, and then spoke, concerned “Yeah, and you shouldn’t be up this late.” Ozpin could practically see the concern in the shorter man’s face despite having his eyes closed. The silverett opened his eyes to find the noirett looking at him, Ozpin correctly guessing his expression.
He sighed and shook his head, “Same old, same old.” He didn’t make eye contact with Qrow, finding the porch floor more interesting at the moment. Qrow rolled his eyes, “Doesn’t mean I have to like it” “Never said you had to, love.” The taller man gave a tired smile.
The noirett smiled back, “Aight big fella, let’s get you to bed before you go all loopy on my ass.” Ozpin couldn’t help but laugh and he offered a hand to the shorter man. They re-entered the house and headed upstairs to their now shared bedroom.
Qrow, finally being able to get comfortable after being out in the field for so long, changed clothes and joined the silverett in bed. He sighed a sigh of relief as he put his hands behind his head and closed his eyes, happy to finally be home. Soon, he felt the familiar presence of someone looking at him. Cracking an eye open he peered over to see Ozpin lying there.
Ozpin gave a low, tired laugh “You know birdie, your neck and arms will be killing you in the morning if you fall asleep like that.” Qrow scoffed “Says the man who sleeps on his stomach!” “It is quite comfortable excuse you!” The silverett responded matter-of-factly.
The noirett arched an eyebrow and cracked a smirk, “Whatever you say Ozzy, just don’t come complaining to me when your neck hurts.” “Oh I will, because you wouldn’t dare deny me a massage. Especially if it means you get to touch my abs~” Ozpin returned with a smirk of his own.
Qrow tried to sputter out a response to that, he wasn’t wrong, gods he wasn’t wrong by any means. But he didn’t need to be so open about knowing about how Qrow felt. The shorter man resulted to smacking the taller one on the face with a pillow “Go the fuck to sleep you gorgeous prick.” Ozpin laughed, muffled by the pillow being shoved in his face, “Only if you do so with me.”
“Gladly if it can get you to stop saying stuff like that for now.” Qrow grumbled, a blush tinting his cheeks as he turned the lamp off. They laid there in the dark, silent for a while.
“Ozzy?”
“Yes, love?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Nah I mean I really love you. Like you are the sexiest man out there, I genuinely do not believe I scored you. Top tier—“
“Qrow, go to sleep.”
“Haha, yes sir.”

shameful copy-paste questions that I asked @ironpines, but I wanted your opinion: When Qrow gets around to killing Ironwood I wonder if Ruby will view her uncle differently since she's only aware of the villains killing people and maybe death of someone evil (Yang & Blake?), but not someone who was and ally and should still be. Currently would (C)RWBY even know how to handle the consequences-responsibility-emotions-though of how this could-should change off set how she would view others
I’m legit here for the community aspects of copy-paste questions 😂
So yeah, let’s say that Volume 8 ends with Ironwood dying at Qrow’s hands, either a deliberate murder, a lack of effort in protecting him, intending to kill him but then changing his mind but then Ironwood dies anyway, etc. Whatever happens, the point of this hypothetical is that Qrow bears a certain amount of responsibility in Ironwood’s death and Ruby finds out about it.
Based on who Ruby is “supposed” to be, I think it should staggeringly change her view of Qrow. I use “supposed” in quotation marks because obviously as a viewer unaffiliated with the production of RWBY, my interpretation of the character has no canonical weight. As I’ve mentioned in other recaps, everything is how it’s “supposed” to be by virtue of it coming from our authors. They have full control over who Ruby “really” is. Thus, I use “supposed” to acknowledge that the Ruby we currently have contrasts the Ruby we were originally introduced to (without the story making significant, persuasive strides to explain that change). RWBY broke an unspoken agreement, so to speak. They introduced a kind, compassionate, brilliant, optimistic girl and in doing so set up the expectation that we would get to see that version of Ruby over the course of the tale. Yet she’s been replaced by a very different version of Ruby  — a Ruby in name only, I’d argue, given how staggeringly she contrasts the character we began with without, again, witnessing logical growth — and I think this version of Ruby wouldn’t give Qrow killing Ironwood a second thought.
Why? Let’s tally some of the character moments we’ve seen from her since Volume 5:
Ruby chose information over compassion  — the scene with Ozpin in the snow  — telling us that she is now concerned more with what she thinks she “has” to do as opposed to how she’s treating allies. This has only grown more pronounced in relation to Cordovin (who cares about fighting/taking headshots at allied officials when we “have” to get to Atlas?) and eventually Ironwood himself, setting up the potential interaction of Qrow likewise saying he “had” to kill him and Ruby just nodding in understanding. Yeah, we all “have” to treat our allies horrifically to get what we want/need at any given moment
Ironwood is no longer an ally to Ruby’s mind, not even a lapsed one she hopes to reconcile with. She told the ENTIRE WORLD that he could no longer be trusted. Whether the world takes this teenager’s words at face value doesn’t matter because Ruby intended to set everyone against Ironwood, irrevocably. That’s not something you do to someone if you have any intention of allying yourself with them again. Ironwood is already figuratively dead to her, so why would she care about his literal death? Especially when that would solve many of Ruby’s problems (AKA, the consequences of her previous actions)
As you mention, we already had the death of another villain/antagonist that Ruby happily ignored: Adam. I’d say that at this point Ruby sees Ironwood as just as bad as Adam, potentially worse given that she has far more of a personal connection to him than she did the abuser/assaulter she never met face-to-face. So if Yang and Blake stabbing a man to death doesn’t changer her opinion of them  — doesn’t even faze her, isn’t even given a discussion — why would Qrow doing the same to a (now) equally bad guy cause a change in perspective? Whether Qrow actually kills Ironwood in self-defense wouldn’t matter, all he needs to do is give some version of events that presents it as such  — another “I had to”  — and Ruby will hug him like she did Yang
Indeed, we’ve already seen this sort of warped justification by the narrative in regards to Qrow, demonstrating that no, RWBY can’t handle this mix of consequences/responsibility/emotions. Meaning, we all saw Qrow join Robyn in needlessly attacking Clover, take up his weapon again when given the chance to back off, team up with Tyrian, break Clover’s aura when Tyrian was captured... and yet the story still had Qrow go, “It’s Clover’s fault he died. I had to do this” with no hint that he’s wrong to think this way. RWBY can’t even manage responsibility when we see, plain as day, the hero teaming up with the villain to help take out a former friend... so they’re going to manage it for the utter mess that is Ironwood’s downfall? I doubt it.
Long story short, I think the Ruby we began this show with, the one I thought for five volumes that we’d continue to have as our protagonist, would be horrified by what her uncle has done and it would absolutely be something she has to grapple with. The Ruby who steals from Ozpin, ignores him for months, screams that she has to attack Cordovin, lies to Ironwood, shrugs off Adam’s death, demands that Qrow obey her leadership, denies that adults ever helped her, tells all of Remnant that they should turn against a world leader on her say-so alone... this version of Ruby is too arrogant and callous to care. Baring a (welcome) change back to her old self, this Ruby will nod, agree that it had to be done, and make a generic speech about how they’ll (somehow) do better now that Ironwood is out of the way. Ruby used to go to great lengths to demonstrate care for her allies and even extended a hand to the villains. Now, she treats anyone who disagrees with her as a villain (and that’s ignoring that actual, villainous things that Ironwood has done — shooting Oscar, taking control of Penny  — that Ruby doesn’t know about yet). I honestly don’t think she’d care if someone found a way to kill Ozpin, a comparative good guy when set against Ironwood now, if they did it without hurting Oscar, so the guy whose plan involved leaving Mantle behind and who encouraged his followers to use deadly force against her friends? Nah. Ironwood is already dead to this version of Ruby and anyone who actually kills him, even her uncle, will at best get a “You did a horrible but totally necessary thing...”  and at worst victorious pats on the back for defeating this evil.

Sooooo much has happened this episode and it was all amazing !
(under a cut because it got long)
The Ren and Nora moment was sooo well done. I’m glad Jaune was there at the beginning, because he also needed and deserved to hear what Ren had to say, but the moment Ren and Nora had alone, and especially the fact that Nora acknowledges the growth Ren did, forgave him and told him she needed time to understand some things about herself on her own was especially good. It’s rare, in media in general, to frame romantic relationships as something other than a quick-fix for whatever problem you have. In any other media, Ren’s confession would have given Nora all the answers she was looking for about herself and what she wants for her future and whatever, but not in RWBY, because in RWBY, the writers actually care for their characters and their developments and make them take realistic choices and so the characters understand that they need to grow into their own person before they can really become part of a couple and it’s beautiful.
Next, Marrow and Winter. Winter and the Ace Ops were still in deny and trying to convince themselves that Ironwood wouldn’t actually nuke the city, but then he confirmed he would, Marrow blew up and Winter saved his ass and gave both of them an exit to get the fuck out and join the resistance and I think it’s very sexy of them. Go my little defectors, go !
Speaking of joining the resistance, I think it’s pretty obvious they’re the ones who were in the elevator that opened right in front of Qrow and Robyn and it’s great because I can’t wait to see what these four together will be like.
Now, for Qrow and Robyn ! Anyone that ever bitched about Robyn letting herself be carried away by her feelings or whatever the fuck they tried to say about her being controlled by her emotions and acting out for nothing can now kindly shut the fuck up because GUESS WHO DOESN’T WANT TO RESORT TO MURDER, EVEN AGAINST A DICTATOR ? THIS WOMAN. I saw some people say that she’d join Qrow on his vendetta against Ironwood, but look at her actually think about this rationally and understand that this is probably not the best way to stop the payload and save people. This is Queen of Atlas material right there.
Ruby and Yang now. Oh my God, that was a lot. I was just talking a couple days ago, maybe even just yesterday, about how I didn’t understand why Yang sort of blamed Ruby for her leadership not avoiding the literal catastrophe happening this volume. Ok, she was angry and tired and she had already questioned Ruby’s decisions before, but she was supposed to be the supportive older sister who was always ready to help her little sister, right ? Well, this episode perfectly played into that. Yang understood that things were just too much for Ruby and tried to be her support, to make her see that they still needed her hope and optimism and the conversation led them to talk about Summer and maaaaan, that was a conversation a long time in the making. For those, what, five minutes ? They were the pair of sisters still missing their mom and grieving her, Ruby included. She doesn’t talk a lot about her feelings, much less about her mom, so that was an important moment for her, I think, and Yang reaffirming that Summer is still her hero and they shouldn’t stop taking risks was really important for Ruby to hear I think, because, after seeing what the Hound was, she probably felt scared and helpless, but now she knows that whatever happens, whatever they do, it will still mean something. It will still achieve something.
The moment with Penny and the virus was also an important moment for both Penny and Ruby I think. Penny, because it was one more proof that she’s not just a machine, she has an aura, a soul, and the virus can’t control it. (on a sidenote, we saw her activate her Maiden powers while her eyes were still entirely red, so I think she can actually still use the powers even when she’s under the virus’s influence : it’s like a voice whispering in her ear, not a rat controlling her body while her spirit and soul are still entirely free) But it was also an important moment for Ruby, because Penny asked her to kill her, so Ruby would get the Maiden powers. That was such a LOADED moment ! The horror on Ruby’s face when Penny begged to be killed... Man, it gave me chills. I knew it wouldn’t happen, but still. Penny’s still alive, Ruby doesn’t have the powers, but I think this scare will stay with her until the fight for Atlas and Mantle is over. I don’t know if we’ll see Ruby and Penny talk about that again, but that was a heavy moment for both of them, because Penny showed she was all too ready to die for the “greater good” and Ruby, for a heart-stopping moment, could feel the weight of the Maiden powers on her shoulders and the target it would put on her back and I hope they talk about it because there sure are things to say.
Now, Emerald. She was really adorable this episode, honestly, especially in the way she tried to cheer up and encourage the heroes, then got flustered when they pointed out she said she “switched sides”. She didn’t have many lines, but the few she had and the heroes’ reaction to it really cemented that she’d be working with the heroes from now on, really working with them, and that they’d take a risk on her.
And, speaking of risk, they’ll also take one on Ozpin again. I’m glad that RWBY told him they understood his reaction now, because they have experienced how giving your trust to someone can backfire and they know, now, what kind of risk putting your trust in someone can be. They didn’t apologise for their actions and anger, because it was justified, but they also acknowledge that his secrets had a reason to be and are willing to give him another chance. I’m happy they all managed to talk again and find a common ground.
And now, Ruby had an idea about bringing Penny to the Vault and Cinder, Watts and Neo are headed there too and probably Qrow, Robyn, Winter and Marrow too and I can’t wait to see it all play out.

May I ask for more Summer is Queen of Vale AU, please? GoL visits Beacon upon Ozma’s request. While Summer is happy to see him again, she and her uncle are concerned why he was even brought over. After meeting TRQ and getting to know them a bit, he is called again by Ozma, causing GoL to apologize before leaving. He and GoD then meet with Ozma, as both gods tell him that if it’s about Salem or having the children face her instead of Ozma, then they’ll either leave or punish him. (1/2)
May I ask for more Summer is Queen of Vale AU, please? After a lengthy argument, GoD finally loses his cool and shuts Ozma up, letting Ozpin take control once more. Ozpin, mentally exhausted, thanks the gods. The brothers then tell him that they will not let another else suffer from Ozma and Salem’s childish squabble, which Ozpin agrees to wholeheartedly and agrees to try and make sure they don't get involved. The brothers thanks him and leave. (2/2)
The God of Light sighed as he walked onto Beacon campus, dreading whatever talk that Ozma wanted to have. Giving that man a purpose like this was a mistake he regretted, but not one he could easily fix. At least, not without destroying the world. Although now that he and his brother were both reincarnated to watch over Ozma and his feud with Salem, things were going a bit smoother. At least, that was the hope.
“I see you were called over too.”
The God of Light smiled a bit at his brother as he walked over. “I was. I’m assuming this isn't our typical visit with him.”
“Unfortunately not.” The God of Darkness, or Ness as he liked to address himself, put on a small smile as he watched Summer and her team walking closer. “Actually, while we’re here, have you talked to Summer yet? She and her team are delightful.”
“I… haven’t,” the God of Light admitted. He never was great at remembering to visit family, even if that family was due to a reincarnation. “She’s around here now though, isn't she?”
Ness nodded and turned his brother around. “Don't be shy and go say hi to them all.”
The God of Light shook his head a bit as he walked closer to Summer, putting on a small smile. “Hey Sum-”
It didn't take long for Summer to nearly tackle her uncle in a hug. “Uncle L! What brings you here?”
“Your… headmaster wanted to speak to me. I’d assume it’s about you since I know you’re the local troublemaker.”
Summer giggled a bit and pulled back. “I’m not *that* much trouble.”
“No, don't listen to her, you’re about right on that.” Raven smirked a bit as she walked up with the rest of her team. She looked the older man over, immediately noticing the horns and his suit. He didn't seem to put on the air that he was better than everyone else, but she could tell by the lack of expression on his face that he seemed to hold a lot of regrets. “I’m Raven. And you’re another one of Sum’s uncles, right?”
“I am. And you must be her teammates: Raven, Taiyang, and Qrow.” He pointed to each member of Summer’s team. “Summer has told me a lot about you three in her letters.”
“So, since you’re here for my headmaster, I take it you're not planning to stick around long for a visit, are you?” Summer asked.
“I can be persuaded to stick around a little while after. Afterall, I think I need to get to know your team a bit better.” The God of Light paused for a moment as he heard his pocket watch sound off, pulling the chain to bring it out of his pocket. “Unfortunately, I need to go. But I’ll meet you at your dorm when I’m finished.”
Summer nodded and gave him one last hug before heading off with her team, talking to them a bit about her uncle.
The God of Light sighed and started walking to the Headmaster’s office with his brother. It was a rare occasion that the two of them were ever called to the same place, mostly due to the disagreements they tended to have. But this time, things seemed different. Especially since it was Ozma specifically who called for them.
Once they reached the Headmaster’s office, Ozma greeted the two, smiling a bit. “I’m glad you both came. I think I finally-”
“If this is about Salem, no,” the God of Light said firmly. “I know we-”
“You,” corrected Ness.
The God of Light sighed. “-I… gave you the opportunity to help her, but the two of us refuse to get into this feud you’re having.”
Ness nodded, folding his arms. “We admit, we made mistakes giving a grieving woman a punishment that shouldn't have happened. However, we won't help you.”
Ozma frowned a bit. “What do you mean you won't help? I finally have an answer to her and you’re both going to deny helping me? All I need is for you both to help Summer prepare-”
“Absolutely not!” Ness let his form start to change, taking on his original appearance for the first time in thousands of years. “I will not let you drag Summer into this! Or any more children for that matter! This feud is between you and Salem! If I could take back all of my mistakes, I would. But right now, my job is to make sure that this feud of yours stays between you two. We do not need any more casualties of innocents!”
For a moment, Ozma’s eyes flashed a bright green, letting Ozpin take control again. He sat down, holding his head before grabbing a bottle of painkillers. “That… was more exhausting than it should’ve been.”
The God of Light went to grab Ozpin some water, letting out a sigh. “I’m...sorry about the curse that was bestowed upon you. When I first set things in motion, I thought it was going to be quick. Maybe three or four lifetimes. If I had known this squabble of theirs would’ve lasted this long-”
“Its fine. Thank you for giving me the time that I needed to regain control.” Ozpin looked down at his desk, seeing the paperwork of Summer laying on it. “And I’ll do everything I can to keep the students from getting caught up in this. Although, I can't make any promises once they graduate. Salem’s been making her move more frequently and it's only a matter of time before Summer becomes aware of her presence.”
Ness sighed and started heading out. “If she joins you of her own free will, we won't stop her. But please, do everything you can to keep this feud between Salem and Ozma. We’ll stick around a bit more to try to keep him in line.”
“Of course. I’ll do everything I can.”
The brothers thank him one last time before heading off. The God of Light paused as he made his way outside the office, thinking back to the first mistake he and his brother made with Salem. “Maybe we should try to fix this one on our own, leaving the rest of humanity out of it.”
“We’ve discussed this. We can't make any corrections without dooming this round of humanity as well. Besides, we agreed to keep our hands off the fate of these mortals.” Ness slowly let his form change back to how it should’ve been. “This time it has to be all Ozma.”
The God of Light nodded, starting to follow his brother to Summer’s dorm. “I hope you’re right and he can handle it.”

Top 5 worst male characters and Top 5 worst female characters in RWBY, and brief reasons why?
This is the type of ask that’s gonna get me shit but I have known no hubris in my life so let’s go. These won’t be in the case of being intentionally bad, I’m doing more on personal taste and the quality of their writing.
Worst Male Characters
1. Adam Taurus
Obviously, Adam is at the top of the list for me. His storyline was butchered from a story of racism and vigilantism to a story about domestic abuse, his brand was cheap shock value with very little substance, he stopped being threatening after the Fall of Beacon and instead became a whiny little bitch, and his voice acting is just bad.
He sounds like he’s gonna call me a slur on Xbox Live.
2. Jacques Schnee
Yeah, the abusive rich man who runs slave mines is bad, but that’s not the main reason he’s on this list. I could accept a character like that if the writers made him good, but they didn’t. Jacques wasn’t intimidating at all. He wasn’t smart at all. The man who conned his father in law and wife into giving him complete control of the most powerful company in Remnant is not the same man we get in the actual show.
He’s whiny, cowardly, and a useless villain who’s entire downfall was treated like a poorly made joke, and now only serves as comic relief in the Jailbirds scenes in V8.
3. Hazel Rainart
Same issues with Jacques and Adam, but less egregious. Hazel was actually a pretty interesting villain in his earlier volumes, and even after his blunder at the Batlle of Haven, he went back to being kinda good in V6 with his protective behaviour towards Emerald. And then V8 came around and I grew to hate how stupid his reasons for joining Salem were, and the fact that he just beat the shit outta Oscar while whining about his dead sister.
Bro, Idgaf about someone I never met while you’re maiming a 15 year old boy because you wanna be mad at the guy in his head.
4. Qrow Branwen
It’s the same case with Hazel. I actually liked Qrow up until V6, and even then I cared enough to try and see where his alcoholism arc went since it’s a serious issue that affects not only my family, but my people. I started to dislike him after he punched Oscar and kept being horrible to the boy, all without apologising in the end, but v7 and 8 made me really hate him.
I don’t care for his edgy attitude, and I don’t care that he got his self-help book boyfriend murdered by a crackhead. Add onto CRWBY butchering a serious topic about alcoholism with him, and he’s just sank right down writing sense.
5. Ghira Belladonna
I never liked Ghira. I think the others are higher than him on this list just on the virtue that I liked them, or the idea of them, and the writing just pulled them down so much.
But I never had that problem with Ghira, so the disappointment doesn’t sting as bad. He’s just an unnecessary character that cheapens Blake since she’s now a princess, a useless father who somehow couldn’t get his own 12 year old daughter back even thought she didn’t even bother to change her own name, and then featured live on a tournament channel that the whole world saw. He was a useless leader, his ideology was stupid and almost got him and others killed, and he was so ungrateful towards Adam for saving his stupid furry ass that I completely sided with Sienna calling him the fuck out.
At least he’s not on my screen anymore, but I know that won’t last forever and I gotta look at his dumb face again.
Worst Female Characters
1. Cinder Fall
God, she is the worst villain and character in this show. She’s so flat, her stans are annoying as fuck, her voice leaves a lot to be desired, and the fact that there’s hardly anything to her for seven years makes it even worse now that we finally got a backstory for her, and it’s one we ALL GUESSED.
Who would’ve thought she’d be a Cinderella who killed her abusive family, I am shooketh.
2. Blake Belladonna
Blake was my favourite girl in RWBY and I’m mad at CRWBY for what they’ve done to her.
It says a lot that a girl still affected by the abuse and trauma of fighting in a terrorist organisation has more personality and backbone than one who’s supposedly broken free of her traumatic past and moved forward. Blake now is spineless, flat, boring ass cardboard cutout of what she once was, who would rather let her human friends defend her from racists than call them out herself like she did to Weiss in Volume 1.
She’s spoiled, priviledged, annoying, and Arryn has such a flat voice on top of being a gross ass person that I get annoyed every time she speaks. She’s no longer an oppressed minority fighting for the rights of her people, she’s a princess who would rather go to a club with people she didn’t even like than a rally against the man who caused so much suffering to her people. Even her talk with Nora about not letting yourself be taken over by who you’re with romantically is hypocritical, since that’s exactly what’s happened to her since she’s been paired up with Yang.
She couldn’t even have the spotlight of fighting her own VILLAIN, Yang was the one who broke Adam’s Aura and had the big triumphant moment of throwing his sword in the river while she was too busy fucking rock climbing.
3. Yang Xiao Long
Yang was my second favourite girl in RWBY and I’m mad at CRWBY for what they’ve done to her.
Yang wasn’t super developed in the earlier volumes. Honestly, I didn’t think much until her talk with Blake about Raven in Burning The Candle, and her dismemberment leading her towards depression and PTSD. Come Volume 4, I was alright with the portrayal of her recovery. I don’t think they gave enough time between her trying on the arm and then being good enough to leave, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t bad.
What was bad was everything after. Yang became a hypocritical, moody bitch who would drag everyone for their bad decisions while ignoring her own. Her PTSD, something VERY personal to me, was ruined and up and vanished by V7 since she’s now killed the man who gave her the disorder so obviously it’s cured! She is always on Ozpin’s case for the birds shit, and then keeping secrets, but then goes and does the exact same thing while giving little resistance to others doing it because they’re family.
Even her argument with Ruby in V8 was tame as fuck. She blamed Ruby for things not going well while ignoring that it was her own dumbass decisions that contributed to it. Ruby didn’t tell Yang to go and spill the beans to Robyn, her stupid cat girlfriend did that, and Yang went along with it while being unrepentant later on when Ironwood was RIGHTFULLY pissed about it.
Add onto v8 then having her worry about how BLAKE thought about her, rather than RUBY, and I just hate her. This ain’t Yang, I want Yang back.
4. Nora Valkyrie
Nora is just a flat character. Her voice is annoyingly high pitched and screechy, her jokes aren’t funny, and all the things I loved that she got in v4 was later dropped entirely. She had such good moments in V4 that actually made me appreciate her more, and then she just became another hypocrite in v7 who wanted to yell at Ironwood while refusing to look at her own flaws.
On top of her kissing Ren when he was clearly not in the mood to talk, and it made me hate her. It’s not a cute ship moment, it’s a creepy disrespect of someone’s personal space. If it was the other way around, no one would think it was cute.
5. Robyn Hill
Similar to Ghira’s reasons, I never liked Robyn, so she’s low down on the list compared to the others since at one point I loved the others (Minus Cinder but she’s just so bad that she’s #1).
Robyn isn’t a good freedom fighter. She runs in without thinking about things and then proceeds to deny any responsibility of her actions. She won’t accept that maybe her agreeing with the same serial killer that nearly killed her and Fiona, on top of succeeding in murdering some of her supporters and Forest, and starting a fight with Clover in an enclosed space wasn’t a good idea.
Add onto the fact that she’s really just incompetent. She steals supplies from Ironwood to fix the wall and help Mantle, but after time we see that nothing has been done.
Christina Vee is wasted on her honestly.

Rosegarden Week Day 2 — Wedding
Something old
“Ohhh, Ruby! You look beautiful!” Yang rushed up to her sister, but was suddenly stopped. She glanced down to see a glyph under her feet, gluing her to the spot. She looked up to see Weiss staring her down with ice-cold eyes.
“Don’t you dare, Yang Xio Long,” Weiss said. “Do you know how long I’ve spent doing her hair?”
“It’s been hours, Yang. Please help me!” Ruby whispered, a mischievous smile on her face.
Weiss rolled her eyes. “Oh shut up. It’s not my fault your hair refuses to curl.”
Blake rolled her eyes with a smile.
Ruby’s eyes drifted to the small box in Yang’s hand. “Did you bring it?” she asked, voice uncharacteristically small.
Yang smiled and held out the box for her.
With shaking hands, Ruby opened the box. Inside, resting on a red velvet cushion, there was a tarnished silver hair pin, with an intricate rose inlaid with rubies and diamonds. The very same pin Summer Rose had worn at her wedding.
“Oh, Ruby,” Weiss whispered, seeing the pin. “It’s lovely.”
“Will it work?” Ruby asked. Her silver eyes were extra sparkly with tears.
“Absolutely.” Weiss carefully took the pin from the box and began to pull hair back to place the pin.
Something new
“Fortunately, this makeup is cry-proof,” Blake said, setting up her deskspace.
Ruby laughed and wiped her eyes. “That’s good.”
As Blake began to brush on makeup, Weiss and Yang worked together to attach the veil. The beautiful thing had been sewn by Kali and Willow. The two mothers had bonded over mutual love of embroidery.
Ruby thought the embellishments were a tad excessive, but she couldn’t deny the end result was gorgeous.
Something borrowed
The moment Nora walked through the door, she had to turn back around to cry. When she finally composed herself, she walked back in, followed by Ren. “I can’t believe little Ruby is getting married! And to cute boy Oz!”
“You look lovely, Ruby,” Ren said. His smile wasn’t wide, but his eyes were sparkling.
“Thank you.”
The constant compliments were starting to make Ruby feel a little anxious. Sensing this, Nora skipped over to her, holding out the red sash. “We tried to repair it as much as we could, it’s still pretty beaten up though.”
“That’s okay,” Ruby replied. “Thank you so much for letting me wear it.”
“It’s the least we could do,” Ren assured her.
“I’m sure Pyrrha would love that you’re wearing it,” Nora said. “Do you want me to help you tie it? Or is that reserved only for the ice queen of honor?”
“If you think you can do it without ruining her dress, be my guest,” Weiss replied. “I’ll fix it afterwards.” There was a slight twinkle in her eye as she said it, and Ruby giggled.
“I’m going to go back to Oscar, if that’s all right,” Ren said.
“Gonna use your semblance on him?” Nora joked.
Ren shook his head. “He’s surprisingly relaxed. I can tell he’s very excited though.”
“Bye Ren!” Blake said, waving.
“See you soon!” Yang called.
Something blue
“What’s that?” Ruby asked, glancing at the small jewels in Weiss’s hands.
Weiss held them out to her, showing a small sapphire, amethyst, and topaz. “The final touches.”
“For Team RWBY?”
“Obviously,” Weiss answered with a smile. “Is that okay?”
“I love it,” Ruby said, beaming.
After placing the three gems in her hair, Weiss stepped back to admire her handiwork. “Well, Miss Ruby Rose, I think you might actually look presentable.”
“You look so perfect!” Yang cried. She just barely shifted her weight before Weiss shot her another glare. “I can’t wait to hug you after the ceremony.”

Oscar rocked back and forth on his heels, stomach full of butterflies as he waited for his beloved.
Ren and Nora began to walk down the aisle, scattering flowers on either side. Nora beamed at Oscar and winked, acting charismatic as if she hadn’t been sobbing most of the morning. Ren’s expression wasn’t much different than usual, but Oscar could tell he was tearing up.
Next, Penny skipped down the aisle, her eyes literally glowing with excitement. She carried the rings; a golden band set with an emerald for Ruby, and a silver band set with rubies for Oscar. They each had vines engraved in the metal.
Yang and Blake followed, arm in arm. He noticed how Yang had painted her arm red for the occasion, and he held back a laugh.
Following the bees, Weiss and Jaune emerged. Despite her ridiculous heels, she barely reached his shoulder. Still, they held hands as they walked towards the altar. Weiss and Jaune were maid of honor and best man respectively, which meant the next person to walk would be...
Finally, Ruby emerged, with Tai and Qrow on either side.
Oscar felt his breath whoosh away, just like it had the very first time he saw her. Her hair had been curled and pinned back with a silver rose pin, and loose strands framed her face. Her beautiful eyes shimmered. She was already tearing up. It was only when she suddenly blurred away that he realized he was crying. He let out a breathless laugh. It felt both like the briefest moment and the longest eternity as she walked down the aisle. The rest of the crowd faded away as she drew closer.
The moment their hands intertwined, he could think of nothing else. He was sure he said all the right things, and at some point he successfully put the ring on her finger. But he didn’t really snap back into awareness until he heard the words, “You may now kiss.”
Ruby bounced on her toes and threw her arms around his neck. He looked his arms around her waist and pulled her close, hoping he could communicate the deep well of love he had for her through this kiss. Even if he couldn’t do it with this one, his chest fluttered at the realization he had the rest of their lives to show her how much she meant to him.

“I bet if we slip off no one will notice,” Oscar whispered. Their reception had been going on for about an hour, and the socializing was clearly taking a toll on his bride.
“I think they might, actually,” Ruby replied with a giggle.
“I mean, it’s our party,” he countered. “We can do whatever we want.”
After considering it for a long moment, Ruby relented and let him lead her outside to the gardens.
They found a huge hammock and curled up in it, letting the wind rock it back and forth.
The shattered moon looked full, and Ruby's eyes reflected the dazzling light.
“Have I ever mentioned how lucky I am to have you?” Oscar asked.
“No, never. Wait, do you like me or something?”
“Or something.” He leaned in and gave her a gentle kiss. “You know, after the whole… Ozpin thing, I was worried this may never happen. I thought it’d be too weird to ever marry, considering I was sharing my body with an ancient man.”
“I know,” she whispered. “Do you ever miss him?”
“Sometimes,” he admitted. “Part of me wishes he could have been here to see this. He was always rooting for me. He… obviously knew I liked you from day one.” He nudged her playfully. “And I bet he would’ve been impressed with how much better a dancer you are.”
“I think he’s proud of both of us,” she said, looking up at the constellations. As if to confirm it, the alpha star of the Ozma constellation twinkled. She smiled.
Oscar nestled his head into her shoulder. “We’re married.”
“We are,” she agreed.
Just as they were leaning in to kiss, voices caught their attention.
“I knew she was going to sneak off!” Yang declared, marching over to the hammock.
“And after all the work I put into planning this party,” Weiss huffed.
Ruby winced.
Her expression softened. “I’m just teasing, you dolt.”
“Mind if we join you?” Jaune asked, grinning.
Ruby and Oscar exchanged a look before smiling.
The groups settled down together in a semi-circle, leaving the married couple in the hammock to keep Ruby’s dress from staining. They talked for a little while, but mostly gazed at the stars. When a group of fireflies danced by, Penny impressed everyone by communicating with them via Morse code.
As Ruby looked around the group, at her family, she felt love well up in her chest all over again. She didn’t think she was going to live to see this day, to have a future of any kind. But she had made it. Oscar squeezes her hand as he laughed at something Nora had said, and her heart fluttered. She looked at her new husband, and she felt certain that her future was bright.

So I saw you had Glynda’s story on how she meets Evil! Oz, but what about Qrow? How could you imagine them meeting? Also I loved your Glynda story and I was giddy the entire time I read it 😂
Thank you!!!! That’s very sweet!
Now, on to the story... First, to be clear, Glynda joins Oz’s inner circle later on.
If this were any other AU, Glynda would have already become the right hand woman to a 14-15 year old Oz by the time STRQ enrolls into Beacon. However, Glynda cleary fears Ozpin in my post for her backstory. It would be weird for her to be scared of a child she’s older than. Therefore, Ozpin would already be an adult by the time he came into her life to offer her a position as one of his followers.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about Qrow— or, more accurately, team STRQ.
Qrow and Raven enroll into Beacon with the intention of gaining the skills they need to go toe-to-toe with huntsmen and win, like in canon.
A problem arises for Qrow and Raven; Ozpin. He quickly catches on to the Branwen Twins’ true intention. This makes him curious. He keeps an eye on them, but, since Summer and Tai are often around the Twins, Ozpin ends up watching them as well.
This team impresses Oz. They were skilled on the battle field and did quite well during sparring sessions. One of their issues is team work, but they could always improve on that later, Ozpin noted. He continued to observe them over the next few years.
Over those years, he played nice with the students. He offered them opportunities other teams didn’t get, let them get away with causing trouble, and gave them privileges. He was able to gain their trust and become a friend to them.
In team STRQ’s third year at Beacon, Ozpin decided it was time. He called them to his office and explained his situation. He told them about his curse, about the relics, about Salem, and about his plan to destroy humanity. He then offered an idea; join him.
At first, the students thought he was playing a prank. They soon realized he wasn’t.
Of course, Summer and Tai thought of this as insane and cruel. Destroying the world? It was horrible! Qrow and Raven, on the other hand, were silent. They didn’t know what to think.
Ozpin had already predicted how they’d react. He knew how to sway them to his side. He told them how Salem was ten times worse than him, how she was brutal and planning on doing far worse.
Summer asked him, “What’s worse than wanting to kill humanity?”
“Oh, I must have misspoken,” Ozpin murmured. He looked at her and spoke in a more audible voice. “She plans to create chaos. She, I imagine, will kill humanity in the most disgusting ways she can think of. She’ll have her Grimm destroy villages, tear appart innocent people— it would be a nightmare.”
“Don’t you want to do the same thing?” Tai remarked.
“Oh, gods, no. I want to simply wipe out humanity. It would be quick and easy. No harm done. Humanity would slowly come back, and I can put them on a path torwards good—”
“You honestly believe you are the right person to guide people to become better?” Raven interjected in a snarl.
Ozpin smiled. “Why, yes. I was the one chosen by the Gods to do that very task, after all.”
Qrow asked, “Why are you telling us this?”
“As I told you earlier; I want you to join me,” Oz simply said. “With your skill sets, you’d be the perfect people I need by my side. Killing humanity can’t exactly be done without some teamwork.”
Raven scoffed. “You’re insane.”
“Perhaps,” Ozpin smiled. “Now, what do you say?”
By the looks on his teammates’ faces, Qrow could see that they were going to deny the offer. He quickly jumped to speak first. “Yes. We accept.”
Summer, Tai, and Raven stared at him with shock.
“I’m glad to hear that, Qrow,” Ozpin said. He glanced at the rest of the team. “However, it seems your teammates would rather speak for themselves.”
“I— I need some air.” Summer sprinted out of the office and into the elevator. Tai and Raven followed behind.
“I’ll convince them,” Qrow told Ozpin.
Ozpin nodded. “Thank you.”
Later, Qrow struggled to covince the team to accept the offer. He told them they’d benefit from it. Maybe they might even be spared.
To Qrow, Ozpin was the least worst option. He in no way was a good person, but Salem was worse. He was their best bet. Summer, Tai, and Raven finally agreed, though they weren’t nearly as committed as Qrow seemed to be.
Like in canon, Raven left the group, and Summer went after Salem on her own and got killed, and Tai retired from being a huntsman and became a teacher at Signal instead. He raised Ruby and Yang as best as he could. He wanted to keep his girls away from Ozpin and his agenda as much as he could, but as we know, that failed.
Though Qrow was the only one on the team who didn’t either meet their fate or leave the group, he never left Ozpin. He remained by his side.
Side note I think is worth mentioning; Ozpin, in this AU, is more honest. He doesn’t lie or cover up anything about the Gods, the mission he was given, etc. But, he doesn’t tell anyone in his inner circle about the relationship between Salem and him. He’s embarrassed and ashamed of it.

RWBY: Shadowed Stars AU concept part 1
Work in Progress RWBY OC and AU, may commission artwork in the future:
Character Name: Audun Absolu
Based on: Napoleon (Egypt campaign and pre Revolution) and Jim Hawkins (Treasure Island)
Semblance: Entropic Shard, it deals with “perfect crystals” and the third law of thermodynamics. For those who aren’t scientifically inclined and don’t want to research it, think Cinder’s semblance but cold. I mean trust me, that’s a MAJOR oversimplification and I’ll elaborate in later posts.
Clothing: Similar to Napoleon’s clothing in Assassin’s Creed Unity, however colored Black, Burgandy, Dark Green, and Silver.
Weapon: “Égal” dust powered pistol, appearance similar of the flintlock pistols of Empress Catherine the Great (look it up. As a matter of fact, just look up ‘Empress Catherine the Great’. That’s one historical ruler that RADIATES girlboss energy)
Appearance: 5’10 in, light tan, developing a goatee and moustache(nonconnected. Think Will Turner facial hair), slightly curly brown hair, light green eyes with hint of yellow. 23 years old.
Backstory:
Will elaborate on backstory later, however he is not a huntsman. He did train in Atlas, but not as a Huntsman. Rather, he trained as a member of the Atlas military itself and became a low level logistics and field officer. He showed great promise in strategy and combat prowess, which confused his superiors as to why he denied requests to serve in special operative units. During the Fall of Beacon, he was stationed in one of Atlas’ Vacuo detachments and was reported MIA along with a squadron of androids when his regiment was overrun by Grimm. Officially reported dead. What’s strange is that, when recovery teams were sent after the chaos subsided, there were no remains found of the squadron of androids assigned to the regiment nor of Audun himself. After Ironwood’s command to recall the military to Atlas and close borders, there seemed to be a logging error as there were less equipment cases in the base than previously reported.
Like Raven and Qrow never joined Beacon to become Huntsman, Audun had his own reasons for being in the Atlas military.
