Dark academia things I do in my everyday life/ things in my life that give off dark academia vibes
Do I like the dark academia aesthetic? Yes. Do I also make fun of it endlessly? Yes.
Drinking a nice cup of tea
Listening to classical music(specifically romantic because we all know that gives off hella dark academia vibes)(… or baroque but only baroque opera)
Watching/listening/researching operas
Researching composers(Tchaikovsky/ composers I am singing)
Opera/ performance gowns
Blazers/buying blazers
Shopping for fall fashion in the summer
Writing my fanfic feels inherently dark academia(boys/boarding school/ 19th century what more can I say)
My music school building( from the 19th century the rest of the buildings on campus are like weirdly like 20th century modern)
Cafe Nero and I hate saying that
Forever enjoying chai lattes
My boyfriend reading me his poetry
Visiting my boyfriend in providence( he goes to brown)
Discussing literature/ old French and Italian movies with my forever lover(yes with my boyfriend who goes to brown)
My layering in the winter
Going to the music building late at night and practicing on the top floor(especially if it’s a clear night or during a blizzard) (yes I have gone to practice at 9 at night in a blizzard)
Being a vocal performance major/ training to be an opera singer
Singing coloratura pieces
Singing any of the following that are in my rotation: Handel(especially Handel) Mozart, Strauss, Schubert, Purcell(kind of) Reynaldo Hahn
French opera/ French art songs
The song Psyché by Emile Paladilhe (go listen to it I love it, I sang it for juries last semester)
All songs from the black composers anthology
Visiting and taking pictures at the MFA Boston
Jesus lord have mercy my fucking wire rim circular glasses
The list goes on and on and I’ll probably be adding to this. This is partly to poke fun at dark academia but also clue y’all into my life more/ prove I am ever so slightly an intellectual/ I could never be fully dark academia I am too chaotic
we can all agree on that right? like she's a 'said she was born in the wrong generation in middle school' fleetwood mac, david bowie, the mamas & the papas, niche modern indie artists and also chappell roan kind of music listener. obviously. but.... i dont think we've really considered pete's music taste?
pete, who is a science, left-brained kind of kid, so he probably does not actively go out to look for music and is instead just provided music by the people around him?
pete whose older brother is theodore spankoffski and so his earliest and most fond and nostalgic music influences from his childhood would have come directly from ted's cd collection???
basically what im saying is peter spankoffski has the most trashy, early 00's ke$ha, black eyed peas my humps era, all american rejects ass music taste in the world
that boy had bowling for soup's 1985 memorized at age four, his guilty pleasure music is hollywood undead's everywhere i go, ted did his first decent person move in years when pete came out as trans as a kid and stopped listening to grow a pear by ke$ha and pete forcibly made him play it because it's a bop
and then his only friends are a weeb and a theatre kid.
steph gives him the aux cord on a date to be nice, as a sign of trust, and is blasted in the face with the most uncurated mess of j-pop, sondheim, weezer, and like... owl city's fireflies and that's just a fact
People who are like “Omg gen z theatre kids only know *proceeds to list every single musical that came out after 1999*” are the most annoying assholes like hey maybe we just don’t like shit from the 1960’s or we have specific tastes have you ever considered that
I knew it was too late for me to really catch up to that level of technique to play those kinds of pieces [classical pieces by composers like Mozart, by the time Matt was 19/20]. But I just wanted to try and incorporate that kind of mystery [that artists like Phillip Glass, Rachmaninoff and Franz Liszt had] into the band. And something that has had such an emotional resonance through history that it’s managed to live nearly two hundred years. I think a little bit of that started to creep through the second album, Origin of Symmetry, and then the new album [Absolution] as well.
It's so fascinating to me to hear Matt thinks there's an age beyond which you cannot get into more technical classical music. This is also funny because he's regarded as one of the finest pianists in rock music. Guess the takeaway is, sometimes your self-assessment of your abilities aren't the most accurate, huh? Keep going!

In true (closeted) hopeless romantic fashion, you and Bakugo always manage to steal the show at every the wedding you attend, looking so cute when you ignore the rest of the crowd and dance together, mouthing the words to each other lip to lip☹️☹️☹️
