🌅 Lucifer Deity Guide 🌅
Tumblr media
Note: This is inspired by both my own experiences with Lucifer and the information I read on @scarletarosa's blog and her devotional guide to him. Please go read that one too!!
The divine rebel, Lucifer is the light of truth and divine wisdom; an ancient light which shines through the darkness, representing illumination. He is the driving force of innovation, liberation and transformation. According to Scarletarosa, who actively works with Lucifer and was told this by him, he was the first-born god of the Universe created by the supreme deity, the Source. He is so incredibly ancient and beautiful. Lilith was created to be his counterpart, the Queen of Heaven. However, Jehovah took the throne of heaven from Lucifer and cast him and his followers into hell. Most of them lost their connection to heaven and their energy became dark and intense. Jehovah claimed the throne of heaven and set himself up as the one true god, manipulating humans into betraying their original deities. Thus, Lucifer became the King of Hell and has been scorned by Christians for millenia.
God of: Illumination, Light, Darkness, Change, Rebirth, Challenges, Innovation, Logic, Truth, Knowledge, Wisdom, Strategy, Persuasion, Revolution, Luxury, Pleasure, Freedom, The Arts and The Morning Star (“Morning Star” is another name for the planet Venus)

How was he traditionally worshipped?
There is not much to say about how Lucifer was historically worshiped seeing as he wasn’t worshiped at all for a large chunk of human history. He seems to have been worked with in some capacity according to the Gesta Treverorum, written in 1231, which is where we first see the term Luciferian being used to refer to his worship. This was by a woman named Lucardis for a religious circle, who was said to lament to Lucifer in private and prayed to him. However, the term Luciferians was later applied to basically any groups Christians didn’t like and wanted to fight, as one might expect. However, the modern Luciferian movement also sheds light on how Lucifer is worshiped. For Luciferians, enlightenment is the ultimate goal. Their basic principles highlight truth, freedom of will and fulfilling one’s ultimate potential, and encourage the same in all of us. Traditional dogma is shunned because Luciferians believe that humans do not need deities or the threat of eternal punishment to know what is good and the right thing to do. All ideas are to be tested before being accepted, and even then one should remain critical because knowledge is fluid and ever-changing. Regardless of whether Luciferians view Lucifer as a deity or an archetype, he is a representation of ultimate illumination and exploration in the name of personal growth.

Appearance
For me Lucifer usually appears as a tall light-skinned man with long fiery red hair (so red it looks like it’s been dyed), a sophisticated face with a killer jawline, passionate eyes and dressed in a fancy black suit. From all my experiences with him and what I’ve heard from other followers, it seems Lucifer and most demons dress in full suits and tuxedos.
Personality
Lucifer is nothing if not charming. He’s a protector first and foremost - one that always works to help you better yourself, but a protector nonetheless. He feels like a protective older brother taking care of you while your parents are away. He is a very complex entity, deeply wise and eloquent. He is more serious than one might expect for a demon given their popular depictions in our culture as chaotic forces of evil, but Lucifer is full of courage and love. I often feel him with me even when I’m not doing things related to him. He is proud of his follower’s accomplishments and congratulates them on a job well done, though he also reminds them that the job is never truly over. Growth is constant. Lucifer is the epitome of growth, blunt and gentle at the same time, telling you what you need to do and giving you space to figure out how to do it.
Lucifer values resilience, the pursuit of self-betterment, intellectualism, courage, open-mindedness and responsibility in individuals and wants to see his followers develop these qualities. He is constantly rooting for you to reach your full potential. He won’t hold your hand the entire way, but he will help you take steps in the right direction. Lucifer, like all deities, is different for everyone and will adjust his approach depending on your needs.

Zeus: god of thunder and the sky. He is considered the ruler, protector, and father of all gods and humans.
Hera: goddess of marriage, family, childbirth, and woman. She was the wife and sister of Zeus, and many of her most famous myths center around her jealous retributions to Zeus's infidelity.
Poseidon: god of the sea (and water in general), earthquakes, and horses. He was one of the most powerful gods in ancient Greek mythology, Poseidon was held responsible for earthquakes, rivers, floods, droughts, and anything involving water in general.
Demeter: goddess of harvest and agriculture. This was a hugely important role, which gave her the power to sustain life through the growth of all plants and grains, particularly cereal grains.
Ares: god of war and more properly the spirit of battle. He represented the distasteful aspects of brutal warfare and slaughter. Ares was noted for his beauty and courage, qualities which no doubt helped him win the affections of the Greek goddess Aphrodite.
Athena: goddess of wisdom, craft, and warfare. In wars where she was most commonly depicted, Athena embodied cold rationality, tactics, and strategy. Athena's cold logic stood in direct contrast to her brother Ares' rage, violence, and impulsiveness.
Apollo: god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the sun and light, poetry, and more. One of the most important and complex of the Greek gods, he is the son of Zeus and Leto, and the twin brother of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. He is considered to be the most beautiful god and is represented as the ideal of the Kouros (ephebe, or a beardless, athletic youth).
Artemis: goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, nature, vegetation, childbirth, care of children, and chastity. Artemis was very protective of her purity and gave grave punishment to any man who attempted to dishonor her in any form. Like all the Greek Olympic gods, Artemis was immortal and very powerful. Her special powers included perfect aim with the bow and arrow, the ability to turn herself and others into animals, healing, disease, and control of nature.
Hephaestus: god of artisans, blacksmiths, carpenters, craftsmen, fire, metallurgy, metalworking, sculpture, and volcanos. In Greek mythology, Hephaestus was either the son of Zeus and Hera or he was Hera's parthenogenous child. He was cast off Mount Olympus by his mother Hera because of his lameness, the result of a congenital impairment; or in another account, by Zeus for protecting Hera from his advances (in which case his lameness would have been the result of his fall rather than the reason for it).
Aphrodite: goddess of love, lust, beauty, pleasure, passion, procreation, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory. Florence
Aphrodite is usually said to have been born near her chief center of worship, Paphos, on the island of Cyprus, which is why she is sometimes called "Cyprian", especially in the poetic works of Sappho. The Sanctuary of Aphrodite Paphia, marking her birthplace, was a place of pilgrimage in the ancient world for centuries.
Hermes: god of boundaries, roads, travelers, thieves athletes, shephards, commerce, speed, cunning, wit, and messages. Hermes was considered the messenger of the Olympic gods. According to legend, he was the son of Zeus, king of Mount Olympus, and Maia, a nymph. As time went on, he was also associated with luck, shepherds, athletes, thieves, and merchants.
Dionysus: god of wine making, orchards and fruit, fertility, festivity insanity, tuition insanity, religious ecstacy, and theatre. The son of an immortal god and a mortal princess, Dionysus’ role forged a crucial link between humanity and the divine, serving as a force of cyclical, unbridled nature who drew men and women out of themselves through intoxication. In that sense, Dionysus, a genial but wild and dangerously ravishing intermediary, represents one of the enduring mysteries and paradoxes of life.

My friend @g8se translated my new COD fic. It's ancient Egypt AU with medjay!Soap and Anubis!Ghost.
After a great victory, the commander of the Medjay regiment and the chief guardian of the sacred city of the dead, Jonahkt Bay, is visited by the high priest of Anubis who informs him that the God desires to meet the hero in person. Jonahkt Bay becomes the first mortal, aside from priests and Pharaohs, to be honored with the privilege of seeing the earthly manifestation of the God of the dead and receiving a reward from him. With dedication and reverence, Jonahkt Bay enters the temple, unable to even imagine how the God will reward him. 4886 words.
Ancient Egypt AU, human!Johnny, Anubis!Simon, 18+
Tumblr media
The noble commander of the medjay*** sa-u*, Jonahkt Bay, listened to the reports of his squad leaders about the losses. The bloody battle with treacherous mercenaries who tried to seize Hamunaptra – the sacred city of the dead, the storehouse of countless treasures of the Pharaoh, and the earthly abode of the God of death, Anubis – had ended with a remarkable victory. Jonahkt Bay had never seen the God himself in five years of his service as the chief of the guard of the city, but that didn't stop him from being completely dedicated to this honourable duty.
Rumours say that Anubis chose a person to be the vessel of his divine essence, wisdom, and strength. However, only priests and Pharaohs knew the truth, as they occasionally visited Hamunaptra for an audience with God. Nevertheless, it didn't happen very often. The current Pharaoh seemed to prefer visiting the city of the living Waset and the God Amun Ra, whose earthly abode was in Karnak. Or perhaps Anubis preferred to attend to his affairs in peace and quiet, not wasting time on chit-chat with the ruler, albeit mortal, who would eventually face his judgement like anyone else.
You can keep reading on Ao3 or here
After listening to another squad leader, Jonahkt Bay nodded, indicating that he had accepted the report, and raised his hand, summoning the next one. Suddenly, the massive doors opened, and into the hall where the medjays held their meetings, discussed strategies, and analyzed the moves of past battles, entered a man. He appeared without a knock and without a warning, and anyone else in his place would have already been beheaded. However, the high priest of Anubis could allow himself to appear not only here but also in Jonahkt Bay's personal quarters without facing any punishment.
Seeing the priest, the medjays lowered their heads in respectful bows. But without paying any attention to anyone, he approached the sa-u commander, looked at him with his piercing black eyes, and spoke:
“The God has seen your bravery and dedication, medjay. He wants to see you and reward you for your service. It's an honor that no mortal has received, aside from priests and Pharaohs, for over five centuries. For your own good, medjay, I sincerely hope you won't disgrace yourself or act foolishly. Now, follow me. We must not keep the God waiting.”
Jonahkt Bay followed the priest, feeling the gaze of his squad leaders. Excitement, envy, reverence, and fear were evident in their looks. Apparently, there was more fear than anything else, as there were countless rumors about the grim God of death – each more terrifying than the other. However, Jonahkt, for some reason, was not afraid. Maybe he understood that if Anubis wanted to take his soul, he could do it anytime and anywhere, without summoning him to the temple for a personal audience.
Soon, Jonahkt realized that the high priest was taking him not to the main temple but to one of the buildings on the outskirts of the temple complex. To the medjay's silent question, the priest of Anubis slightly rolled his eyes but still said:
"You cannot present yourself to the God in this state. First, you need to be properly washed, purified, and dressed. While the slaves attend to you, I'll have time to tell you how to behave in the presence of the God."
It all sounded condescending, but Jonahkt was already accustomed to the arrogance of the priests, so he didn't pay much attention. Moreover, he found himself inside the building, and several young boys and girls with slave collars around their neck took him by the arms and led him somewhere into the depths of the building, where the scents of various oils and herbs burned on large round braziers wafted through the air.
Naively, Jonahkt thought they would take him to a bath, and that after he would be given clean clothes and sent back to the high priest. However, the ‘purification’ process turned out to be much longer and more complicated. The bath did take place, but only at the beginning. Afterward, the slaves led the medjay to several baths, each with water of different temperature, aroma, and even colour.
The first bath turned out to be black, ice cold, with water as thick as mercury. The room was almost dark, the braziers barely glowing and filling the air with dense smoke with a strange scent. When Jonahkt was allowed to stand up and leave the bath, the black water droplets didn't drip, but rather rolled off his body. However, it might have been just an illusion, as the smoke and aroma left the medjay's head spinning.
In the second bath, located in a more conventional room lit with windows, two slaves entered the water with Jonahkt and meticulously rubbed his entire body first with some herbs and then with aromatic oil, not hesitating to touch places where no one, except a lawful wife, should touch. Here, it smelled fresh, and the dizziness quickly dissipated from Jonahkt's head.
The third bath repeated the process, but while Jonahkt was pampered by pleasantly warm water, the slaves shaved all of his hair, all over his body. Everything would have been fine, but the high priest observed this procedure, monotonously listing countless rules of behaviour that the medjay must adhere to in the presence of the God.
“You must kneel, touch the floor with your forehead; do not lift your head, do not look into the eyes, do not speak unless the God asks to, only do what he commands...” the priest was babbling on and on.
“And what if he commands, for example, to raise my head?” Jonahkt asked, feeling strong discomfort from what the slaves were doing to him right now.
“He won't command that,” the priest sternly cut him off and continued. “Receive the reward with reverence and gratitude, no matter what it is. Thank at least three times, preferably seven times. Do not touch the God, do not look around...”
Before inviting the medjay to immerse himself in the fourth bath, his body was yet again rubbed with some oil. While he was in the water, the slaves had massaged his neck, shoulders, head, face, and legs, and it was so pleasant that Jonahkt almost forgot about the priest who continued to meticulously list the rules.
After that, the medjay was taken to the fifth room, where, fortunately, there was no bath. High above braziers roze smoke with a strange scent of roses, and in this created mist, Jonahkt was thoroughly dried. Then, he was dressed in a black shendyt, similar to what the priests wore, only shorter – not ankles length, but only knees length. It was fastened with a wide belt, and after that numerous ornaments – bracelets, collars, and necklaces – were placed on Jonahkt’s neck and wrists.
“The sun is setting,” the priest finally spoke, glancing out the window. “I think you are ready for the meeting.”
At the exit from the building, another priest approached Jonahkt and handed him his khopesh, which he hung on his belt. In reality, he expected not to be allowed to appear before Anubis with a sword, but the high priest explained that the mortal weapon could not harm the God, but it also would demonstrate that a true warrior had come.
In the twilight, they approached the dark assembly of Anubis's temple. The entrance was guarded by medjays from his sa-u, who respectfully bowed, allowing their commander and the high priest inside. They passed through several rooms and finally stood in front of massive doors, or rather, gates to the main hall where the God received mortals who came to pay homage, bring gifts, or discuss important matters. The latter, however, was a privilege reserved only for the Pharaoh and the high priest.
“From here on, you will go alone,” Anubis's priest informed. “It's dark inside. Just go straight until you see. And then you already know what to do.”
“Yes, fall on my knees and touch the floor with my forehead,” Jonahkt replied, a bit irritated. “And what will I see?”
The priest cast a long gaze at him, then turned away and waved his hand to the younger attendants, who took hold of the levers of the mechanism that opened the gates and began to turn them. Despite his bravery, the medjay felt a chill run down his spine. His heart jumped almost to his throat, and cold drops of unpleasant sweat rolled down his back. In a few moments, he, Jonahkt Bay, would see a real living God, the master of death, the guide and judge of the dead, the supreme commander of his terrifying army that rises from the sand and returns to the sand when its is accomplished. Honestly, Hamunaptra did not need protection from medjays. The fact that this duty fell on the shoulders of mortals was a manifestation of the God's mercy and trust in them. It was already a sufficient reward for each warrior of the sa-u, including Jonahkt himself. So why does Anubis want to see him here, in his temple? What is he going to say to a mortal? What reward does he want to give?
His legs became like cotton, but Jonahkt did not show his fear and, with all his bravery, entered the vast dark hall of the main temple. The gates behind him began to close, and from the other side, this process was accompanied by a loud creaking, but here, in this dense, bonechilling darkness that seemed physically palpable, the sounds vanished and quickly disappeared, leaving not even a hint of an echo.
Jonahkt moved his legs, slowly navigating through the darkness, but he could not hear his own footsteps, unlike the beating of his heart and the wheezing uneven breath. He walked forward, but it seemed to him that he was motionless, hanging in the midst of boundless darkness, where there were no directions, no top or bottom, nothing and no one. The medjay thought that he had been deceived, thrown Beyond the bounds of the familiar world of the living, and now he would hang in this terrible cold emptiness for eternity – motionless, defenseless, helpless.
The fearless Medjay's legs trembled, his eyes began to sting, and at the moment when he was ready to collapse and curl up in a pitiful cry, his gaze unexpectedly began to distinguish something other than darkness. It turned out he was walking along a wide corridor with tall statues on either side. Underneath each burned brazier, giving weak and dim but still light. The sounds returned, and Jonahkt suddenly felt the coldness of the stone slabs under his bare feet as he stepped on them.
Light flashed unexpectedly and very closely. The medjay stopped and saw that flames blazed up in a few braziers ahead, illuminating the massive throne standing between them. And on this throne sat...
Jonahkt didn't have time to complete this thought because he remembered the priest's instructions, so he quickly fell to his knees, bowing so abruptly that his forehead hit the floor. His heart jumped to his throat again, and the medjay held his breath, hoping that the God would not consider his delay as disrespect and would not destroy him on the spot.
For several long moments, nothing happened. Then Jonahkt heard the rustle of fabric, a soft ringing – probably from jewelry – and heavy footsteps accompanied by a clicking sound, as if from claws touching the stone floor. These sounds approached, making the medjay's heart race even faster, and ceased, as he felt, right by his head. For a few moments, nothing happened again, and then a shadow fell on Jonahkt, something clinked, and he felt the cold and, at the same time, very hot fingers taking him by the chin. Sharp claws – and now the medjay was more than certain that the God's fingers indeed were clawed – pricked his cheeks. A large hand, much larger than his own, lifted Jonahkt's chin, forcing him to raise his head and straighten his back.
The medjay closed his eyes, feeling cold sweat running down his temples. The God's hand threw back his head so that he would probably be staring straight into Anubis's face if he dared to open his eyes. However, the priest's instructions were firmly settled in his memory, so Jonahkt had no intention of testing his fate. Then he heard a voice. Low and powerful, it sounded as if from everywhere, filling all the voids of the gigantic hall, echoing off them and penetrating the mortal's ears. These sounds enchanted Jonahkt so much that he did not immediately grasp the meaning of what the God had said to him.
"Open your eyes, child," Anubis repeated with inhuman patience and unearthly wisdom. "Look at me."
The high priest ordered to do everything the God commanded, so Jonahkt slowly obeyed the command, feeling hot tears rolling down his cheeks. At first, everything before his eyes was blurry, but then his vision cleared, and Jonahkt saw the God leaning over him.
Anubis was unnaturally tall and robust, dressed in a long and luxurious black shendyt with exquisite draping embroidered in gold. It was held by a massive belt made of golden plates engraved with symbols unknown to the medjay. The God's skin was extremely pale, almost white, covered with scars and myriads of black hieroglyphs and unknown symbols that seemed to emerge from within. Anubis's neck was adorned with a massive gold necklace. Feeling parched in his throat, Jonahkt dared to lift his eyes even higher and saw that the God's face was hidden by a mask made from a bone of what seemed like an exceptionally large jackal skull. In the eye sockets, the God’s eyes burned – bright, almost red, but the strangest and most horrifying was not their color. In each eye of the God, there were two irises and two pupils, one larger, and the other one slightly smaller.
"Stand up," Anubis commanded again, not taking his gaze away from Jonahkt's eyes, peering through them straight into his heart and the most secret and darkest corners of his soul.
"I... dare not," the medjay whispered, unable to control his voice.
The God let out a sound very similar to an ordinary human chuckle. Then Anubis pulled Jonahkt's chin again, forcing him to rise on trembling legs, which barely supported him in an upright position.
Anubis released the mortal's chin, crossed his arms over his chest, and in a somehow very human manner tilted his head slightly to the side, continuing to pierce Jonahkt with the gaze of his horrifying eyes. Jonahkt wanted to kneel and bow again, but he could no longer look away from the living God standing before him. Now he could see that Anubis's hands around the forearms smoothly transformed from pale white to sheer black, absolutely inhuman hands with long fingers and sharp claws. The same transformation affected the God's legs. It was now clear what that strange clicking sound when Anubis was approaching the medjay was caused by. As Jonahkt had noticed before, the God was simply extraordinarily tall, probably at least two heads taller than himself. And because of the sharp triangular ears of the bone mask, he seemed even taller.
All this left Jonahkt with no doubts that a real God was standing before him. He radiated an aura of strength, otherworldly wisdom, and majesty, unreachable for anyone, even the mightiest Pharaoh. Anubis evoked feelings of reverent fear and a desire to bow before him. However, the longer Jonahkt looked at him, the more he realized that the God was not as terrifying as he was unbelievably, incredibly beautiful.
Anubis moved again and slowly extended his hand to the mortal. And Jonahkt, now without fear but rather with absolutely sincere enthusiasm, placed his palm in it, gently gripping the black fingers.
"Come with me, child," the God spoke and led the medjay somewhere behind the throne, through the secret doors into the intricate maze of dark corridors.
At some point, the darkness thickened once again, and Jonahkt began to lose the sense of time, but fortunately, it did not last long. Entering through the next set of doors following the God, the medjay realized that he had been brought into gorgeous chambers with a personal bath, numerous shelves of papyrus scrolls, a table with writing tools, and a huge luxurious bed under a semi-transparent canopy. This room simply could not be as large as the main hall of the temple, yet it seemed just like that – the ceiling vanishing into darkness, the smoke rising from the braziers concealing the walls, and the shelves seeming to extend into infinity.
Jonahkt understood that the earthly manifestation of the God requires rest – maybe not as often as a mortal, but still does. And now Anubis brought him, not a priest or a Pharaoh, into the chambers where he rests – reads, writes, or perhaps even sleeps, eats, or drinks wine from those amphorae that Jonahkt noticed near the table.
"Curious?" Anubis asked, and this time his voice sounded almost ordinary, though still absolutely non-human.
Jonahkt became nervous, realizing that the God had noticed him glancing around, maybe even reading his thoughts. However, Anubis didn't get angry; instead, he took the medjay by the shoulders, pricking him with his claws, and gently nudged him forward.
"Go, take a look," he allowed. "Pour yourself some wine if you wish."
Jonahkt wanted to but, of course, didn't dare. He simply took a few steps forward and took a closer look at the table. There was a noticeable disarray; papyri were scattered, writing tools were placed haphazardly, and in the center lay a massive book with pages made of some unusual black metal. Jonahkt didn't dare touch it, but he noticed it was open, and the right half of the page was filled with hieroglyphs and diagrams, while the other half was blank.
"The Book of the Dead," Jonahkt heard the God's voice just behind him and startled in surprise. "Almost completed."
A clawed hand rested on Jonahkt's shoulder again. Anubis pushed him closer to the table, and Jonahkt felt the heat of the God's body against his back, standing as close as possible. Leaning forward, the God extended his other hand, and with a claw, he added a few more hieroglyphs to the page. The metal of the page heated where the God's finger touched it, yielding to carve the written symbols.
"Well, Jonahkt Bay, noble medjay-warrior," Anubis whispered insidiously into the mortal's ear, leaning so close that his mask touched Jonahkt's cheek, "are you ready to receive your well-deserved reward?"
Before Jonahkt could respond, the God swiftly turned him to face him and pushed him in the chest as if not hard, but Jonahkt could not stand on his feet either way. He fell backward, expecting pain from hitting cold the stone floor, but for some reason, he found himself on the bed. Before he could move, Anubis was again looming over him. He growled softly, and his black hands greedily slid over the medjay's tanned body, each touch delivering a pleasure Jonahkt had never felt in his life. He trembled, arched his back, as his fingers clawed at the sheets, crumpling them. The God's eerie eyes were very close, and his claws tore the shendyt, which the slaves had put on the medjay. Jonahkt's breath caught, he moaned weakly, twitched, and then the God's palm covered his eyes as he removed his bone mask.
Medjai felt Anubis's breath on his neck, and then his skin burned at the touch of his lips. Jonahkt caught his breath, and moaned weakly, writhing in ecstasy, not knowing what he wanted more – for the God to stop, or for him to never stop, for this pleasure, so sharp and strong to the point of pain, to last forever. For the two of them to float in this eerie void of the temple, for Anubis' hands to hold the mejai, for his lips and tongue to caress the flesh of a mortal, and for all of this to last for eternity.
Consciousness began to fail him as Anubis covered Jonahkt's lips with his own, and his inhumanly long and flexible tongue slid into the mortal's mouth. Medjay could no longer perceive everything that was happening, he managed to catch only fragments, but even that was more than enough for him. Here the palm of the god disappeared from the eyes of the mortal, but he could no longer see anything, because everything was floating in front of his eyes and bright lights were flashing. Here, the God's black hands again eagerly caressed and fondled the trained warrior's body, which now became soft and yielding. Sharp claws scratched the skin, teeth sank into his collarbone, but the sharp flash of pain immediately extinguishes as Anubis traces the bite marks with his tongue.
At some point, Jonahkt realized they were no longer lying on the bed but were actually floating in the midst of emptiness, maybe just beneath the ceiling of the God's chambers. Anubis had overpowered the mortal, holding him under the back and under the thigh, digging his claws into his leg. With each powerful thrust, Jonahkt's head swayed from side to side, he groaned and cried out from the sharp waves of otherworldly pleasure, desperately clinging to the God's massive shoulders with his fingers. It seemed that Jonahkt was crying and pleading with Anubis either to end these sweet torments or, on the contrary, to never end them.
Worlds were born and died before the medjay’s eyes. He saw majestic pyramids and statues turn into sand under the influence of thousands of years passing by in a single moment. He saw buildings reaching the sky, then collapsing to the ground, engulfed in flames. He witnessed the terrifying wrath of the Gods, a blinding sphere of fire and light that, in moments, reduced hundreds of thousands of people to ashes and turned an entire city into ruins. Jonahkt saw the birth of new stars and observed how they aged – long, infinitely long, but still, their time came to an end, and when it happened, Anubis came to take the last rays of their light.
The God's hand gently cradled the mortal's head. His eerie eyes were very close again; he kissed medjay again, made another thrust, and Jonahkt surrendered in the hands of truly divine pleasure that he had finally achieved. His body twisted in convulsions; he, unable to scream, gasped into Anubis's open lips, clinging to the God's shoulders. The last thing Jonahkt felt was something hot filling him. Then the overwhelmed consciousness of the mortal left him, and he hung limply in the God's arms, not feeling how Anubis tenderly touched his temples with his lips before gently laying him back on the bed.
Consciousness returned to Jonahkt reluctantly and slowly. Weakness enveloped his entire body, but it was oddly pleasant. Several minutes passed before the medjay could open his eyes and realize that he was lying on his stomach on a luxurious bed, gently covered with a blanket. He moved slowly, rolled onto his side, and suddenly remembered everything that had happened to him last night, understanding where he was.
Today, the God's chambers looked different. It was a spacious but entirely ordinary room, flooded with light from windows that were just beneath the ceiling and that Jonahkt hadn't noticed yesterday. There were many shelves, but they didn't disappear into infinity at all. And sitting on a carved chair behind the table was a man who leisurely drank wine from a golden cup and read some papyrus.
"Who..." Jonahkt croaked and coughed, trying to regain his voice that had been strained with yesterday’s activity. "Who are you?"
The man put aside the papyrus, set down the cup, and turned his head to look at Jonahkt. His eyes were ordinary, just like his hands and feet. There were no hieroglyphs on his pale, scarred skin. The man had slightly tired brown eyes, regular facial features, and long gray hair down just to his shoulders, loosely tied in the back with a golden comb.
"Do you not recognize me?" he asked with a low but entirely human voice, and a cheerful smile appeared on his lips.
The man extended his hand, and darkness began to cover it; his fingers lengthened, and claws appeared at their tips. His eyes reddened, and irises slowly split into two. However, it didn't last long, and after a few moments, everything disappeared. But it was enough for Jonahkt to understand that he was still facing a God, albeit in a more human form.
"It's quite exhausting," the man smiled wearily, and then his tone became more serious. "My name is Simenhotep Ouserkaf. Long ago, I was a priest of Amun Ra. He chose my brother as his vessel, and Anubis chose me. I went through inhuman tortures, and by enduring them I became the earthly incarnation of the God of the dead. But enough about me. Tell me, brave warrior, are you satisfied with your reward?"
Jonahkt's face flushed. He remembered everything that had kept his consciousness from slipping away and suddenly sat up, throwing off the blanket. He expected to see traces of the God's claws and teeth on his body, but his skin was clean, except for a few old scars.
"It would be awkward if you left in such a state," Simenhotep explained and rose to his feet, showcasing his inhuman height. "So, will you refuse to share wine and breakfast with me?"
"Who would refuse such an honor?" Jonahkt was still terribly shy, but no longer scared.
"Then get dressed and join me," Simenhotep said.
Next to Jonahkt's bed, he found his clothes intact, as if Anubis hadn't torn them with his claws just yesterday. He had no strength left to wonder, so the medjay quickly dressed and approached the table. Meanwhile, Simenhotep pushed aside the scrolls and a massive metal book, then golden plates with bread, cheese, and meat, as well as another cup filled with wine, appeared on the table from thin air. Anubis, or rather his earthly incarnation, brought another chair, and Jonahkt cautiously sat down, again expecting unpleasant sensations and yet again being mistaken.
"Help yourself," offered Saimenhotep, taking a piece of cheese and eating it with wine.
Only now did Jonahkt realize how hungry he was, so forgetting about all etiquette, he attacked the food. Simenhotep just smiled, watching how quickly the food disappeared from the luxurious golden plates. He managed to grab only a little for himself, but he didn't need it to live; it was only for his pleasure in the taste of drinks and food.
"Thank you," Jonahkt finally said, taking a sip of wine. "Thank you for everything. Especially for yesterday's reward."
Simenhotep smiled again, seeing how the brave warrior blushed like a boy.
"May I ask?" Jonahkt continued, and receiving an approving nod, he continued. "What happens next? I mean, with me. With us. Because I won't be able to forget what you gave me, even if I really wanted to, and I don't want to!"
"He likes you," Simenhotep said, and his eyes briefly flashed red. "And I like you too. So, come again."
"Just like that?" Jonahkt couldn't believe it. "And... when? How?"
"Whenever you want," shrugged the man or God. "As for how... that will be my concern. Don't worry; my prudish priests will receive the appropriate instructions. By the way, tell the high priest to come to me, let's say, when the shadows disappear."
Saimenhotep stood up, pushing away his cup, and Jonahkt understood that the audience was over. He also got up, circled the table, and felt the God's incarnation embracing him by the shoulders, escorting him to the door. As a farewell, Jonahkt received a kiss that wasn't as overwhelming as yesterday's but still very pleasant.
Exiting the God's chambers, Jonahkt realized that before him was a short corridor ending with doors leading out of the temple. The latter no longer seemed eerie and spooky – it was a large and majestic hall with a throne and statues, but it wasn't filled with a horrifying incomprehensible void. Slowly crossing it, Jonahkt somehow thought not about the God but about Simenhotep – a person who gave up everything to become the incarnation of Anubis. Perhaps, he felt very lonely here, within the walls of this temple. Maybe that's why he opened up to the medjay, realizing that he could accept this gift. Jonahkt touched his lips, still feeling the taste of the kiss, and thought that Simenhotep was incredible, and the brave medjay wanted to continue getting to know not only the God but also his earthly incarnation.
Approaching the gates, Jonahkt knocked on them, and after a moment, he heard the creaking of the opening mechanism. In the temple's antechamber, almost all the priests awaited him, and the high priest stood at the forefront.
"Good morning, gentlemen," Jonahkt said, a cheerful smile appearing on his lips as he looked at the high priest. "The God said that he will be waiting for you at noon. As for me, it's time to return to my duties." Bowing briefly, Jonahkt walked past the priests bewildered by such behavior and left the temple, feeling absolutely happy.

Starting off the 72 demons of the ars goetia are the amalgamation of the Occult Writings from the 15th century. Compiled into one text in the 17th that is where we get what is now known as the Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis or simply The Lesser Key Of Solomon. Divination with Playing Cards
In response to this ask I got earlier today, I decided to do a quick deep-dive into my research materials about divining with playing cards vs tarot cards. Here's the research I found in Old Tradition Crafte, translated by Robin Artissan (2005):
"Meanings may be assigned to a pack of playing cards, to be spread out and read as omens so a situation may be given clarity and direction as well as understanding." This style of reading is claimed to have been used by witches in the 18th-late 19th century, according to Old Tradition Crafte translated by Robin Artissan (2005). According to Artissan, "It has been taken from those who practice the North Berwick Style of Crafte, but is not old enough to be the original system. The cards used in this system are ordinary playing cards. There is no mention of Tarot cards in this system."

Your current karma general reading
First, I want to thank @lilstargazing for suggesting this topic to me. It wasn't one I had thought of but found it very interesting and so here we are!
pick a number 1-5 OR pick a colour: 1-blue 2-red 3-purple 4-yellow 5-green Hope you enjoy! And next will be "Your current karma in romantic love reading"!
1.Welcome to pile number 1. What comes to your current karma, a lot is about communication and the intellectual. Very strong throat chakra and sacral chakra activation, possibly healing those chakras or rebalancing those chakras could be needed. First of all, there could be some hidden motivations surrounding you. There is a strong focus on you claiming your independence and you being the real you. To be your authentic self, to express yourself. You could experience a lot of worry, but you need to overcome that. It seems you are called to do some shadow work, because you are meant to grow. Be mindful of what you feed your mind, the more you focus on the positive, the more the positive will expand. And a part of the shadow work is to become aware of your own hidden motives and what it is you are longing for. And then to find your north star, to find your inner light, to find yourself. It looks like also you are dealing with hunger. For example, you could have a bigger appetite, because you long for more in life or maybe you simply need to eat more healthily. It looks like you are also meant to take a step back, trust and start planning and strategizing. Whatever that would be about, maybe just about daily routines, maybe school or work. It does look like there is a very stong focus on strategizing. And on foreshadowing, predicting what's going to be next, or what's going to be someone else's next move. Also, what's simply the best strategy for you, for example at work or learning and study strategy. Indeed, it's a lot about clarity and clearing things, making space. Maybe literally you need to do some cleaning. And also to get organized, to get things organized, to put things in order and in the right places. Like making things easy for you to find them. There is also focus on service and on kindred partnerships. You are called to tap into the energy of grace and peace and blessings. And you seem to be learning about using power with wisdom. So you are possibly taught lessons about what is to be in your power and what is healthy. And also, it looks like a part of your current karma is that some change is coming or going on, transformation and joyous opportunities. Now, one more thing that came through for this pile is also celebrity. Like said before about being you, there is a reference about shining like a celebrity, to be the star you were born to be. To walk your path. Perhaps it's time for you to confront your fears of exposure, of being seen and noticed. To become a bit more bold and just be you and shine your own light. And as always, don't forget to leave some feedback, if it resonates with you.
2.Welcome to pile number 2. What comes to your current karma, there is a very strong presence of divine protection in your life at this time. There is also a great possibility that you could be into the supernatural at this time. You have a very strong lesson about denial and acceptance going on for you right now. You are definitely going through so many transformations at this time, so it's inevitable that you are experiencing some storms as well. It's life and it's also about stepping into life and to not be afraid of changes. Your life seems to be speeding up somehow. You are experiencing the phoenix effect in so many ways and on so many levels at this time. It seems like life could feel like quite the mystery to you at this time. Having to experience deep emotions and learning not to worry too much and learning to trust life. And learning how to find peace and how to create peace and how to be in peaceful energy. Learning to be grateful about peace, too. Peace is a huge theme for you right now. And then the phoenix effect as rising from the ashes aka taking your power back. To kinda rediscover yourself and to grow into a stronger you. Another big theme for you at this time is discovery and learning great lessons. Don't worry, you have spirit guides watching over you. For some of you, now is a time of studies. Maybe you are a student and so it seems that your studies are currently a big part of your current karma. You could feel drawn to libraries or bookstores or to school buildings or perhaps just generally to some specific types of architecture styles as well. Creativity and creation is a big theme as well. Creative thinking and creative solutions. Your current karma involves working harder and growing smarter. It's time for you to find new ways of solving problems. Whether it's just about some small tasks or situations. There is also a huge milestone for you in the cards. And one more thing is that you are learning that you'll always have what you need or find what you need. So you are taught lessons about gratitude, of assistance and that you have all you need. And as always, don't forget to leave some feedback, if it resonates with you.
3. Welcome to pile number 3. What comes to your current karma, it's like you've been disconnected from your spirit and so you are asked to reconnect with your spirit, with your higher self. There is a sense of much good impending, but delayed currently, because you need first space for you to reconnect with the divine. Third-eye activation came through for you, maybe you need to do some third-eye chakra cleansing and rebalancing. But at this time it is activated, so you could notice yourself having increased intuition and clear seeing and visions. You seem to also be dealing with some sort of power struggles. So a part of your current karma is to take your power back, step back into your power and the right use of power. So you are called to work on having healthy boundaries and also honesty came through for you. And also you are called to see the royal you, to work on your self-esteem and you are going through a time of self-esteem healing. One big theme that came through for you as well is patience and stillness. It's not the right time yet, so use this opportunity to also focus on resting and taking it easy. You might not fully realize it, but you are taking steps forward and moving forward, even if it doesn't seem so at this time. You do seem to have some collaboration going on or coming in. Passion also came through. So there is a focus on your passions like hobbies. Also, sacral chakra healing and rebalancing. One absolute big theme for you is the divine presence. You might be struggling with faith issues at this time, but it's all about finding faith and having faith. You have very strong divine protection present at this time. It seems to be very important that you know that. Now on a lighter side, you are called to become a magnet for love, light and joy. It really wants to enter your life, you are called to enter that energy space. There are magical moments awaiting you, miracles. And true love. And as always, don't forget to leave some feedback, if it resonates with you.
4.Welcome to pile number 4. This pile has heavy student vibes to it. It's very clear that this is a student pile. Your current karma is so clearly all about student life. For example it's pretty clear that you cannot advance in big steps, but instead you are required patience and to build little by little and in breaks. For example you have to focus on one semester at a time, on one exam period at a time. So a strong part of your current karma is studying and teachers and choices and consequences and creation and creativity and wisdom. In the end, this is all teaching you to walk your path and to trust you have the needed inner wisdom reguarding your student life and courage. And a part of you growing wiser is of course possible regrets, like the regret that you didn't study enough during the exam week. Things like that. And then endings. It's so much about preparations, plans, planning and routines. About knowing the outcomes you seek and what you are trying to manifest. It's a lot about using your mind and the intellectual, knowing the best learning methods for yourself and to tend to the small things, to pay attention to details. A lot of mental hard work. It seems a part of your current karma is to find and recognize your gifts and to not settle for less. And you seem to be dealing with so much new information, which is so typical for students. And as always, don't forget to leave some feedback, if it resonates with you.
5.Welcome to pile number 5. If you chose this pile, it seems you have a bit of everything going on at the moment. So what comes to your current karma, one thing is home. This could be about renovation or relocation or just home life in general. A part of your current karma is also status quo and obstacles. And a part of it is assistance and control. So it seems you also need to learn how to accept help from others. You seem to also need to focus more on your nourishment. It's not just about food, but also about what you consume online and through all media, what you feed yourself energetically, etc. You are taught about prioritizing self-care. And about judgment. It seems you are experiencing some level of enlightment at this time. Your wisdom is growing and you are starting to see some things more clearly. There is also a focus on increasing your knowledge, be it through school or taking classes perhaps. A very strong focus on relationships, including friends and colleagues. It's really about learning that you are not alone. There is a sense that you have your own team. A massive energy of unconditional and all-encompassing love being present in your life at this time, it's time for you to tap into it and to learn to feel such love with no judgment. You are learning about acceptance and serenity. And you are learning about life, about experiencing life, about living life. That life is about everything. And as always, don't forget to leave some feedback, if it resonates with you.

In Shakespeare’s Sisters, Ramie Targoff recovers to literary memory the lives and talents of four women who wrote in England during Shakespeare’s time, well before there was any notion of “a room of one’s own.” From Mary Sidney, sister of the well-known poet Sir Philip Sidney (she wrote most of the beautiful translations of the Psalms ascribed to him) to Anne Clifford, a diarist and memoirist who fought for decades against a patriarchy that tried to disinherit her from her family’s land, these women stun us by their bravery. In the passage below, Targoff discusses the important poetry of Aemilia Lanyer, born of an illiterate mother and an immigrant father; it appeared in print in 1611, making her the first woman in the 17th century to publish an original book of verse.
. . .
In the same year the King James Bible first appeared in print, establishing the most influential English translation of scripture ever produced, Aemilia dared to tell a different story. Over the course of 230 rhyming stanzas of eight lines each, her “Salve Deus Rex Judaeorum” lays out the story of Christ’s Passion from a distinctly female perspective. The formal challenge of writing the poem was itself daunting: it’s no easy feat to compose over 1,800 lines of ottava rima (iambic pentameter stanzas written in an abababcc rhyme scheme). But Aemilia’s greater audacity was in tackling the subject of Christ’s crucifixion. To justify this, she makes the same claim for divine inspiration that the great Protestant poet John Milton would make sixty or so years later in writing Paradise Lost. Describing her own “poor barren brain” as “far too weak” for the task, she asks God to “give me power and strength to write”:
Yet if he please to illuminate my spirit,  And give me wisdom from his holy hill,  That I may write part of his glorious merit,  If he vouchsafe to guide my hand and quill Then will I tell of that sad blackfaced night,  Whose mourning Mantle covered Heavenly Light.
Given the fact that the poem proceeds to do exactly what she petitions for, Aemilia shows her reader that her prayer has been answered: she’s not so much writing as channeling the divine word.[...]      Aemilia’s narrative of Christ’s Passion begins on the “very night our Savior was betrayed.” As part of her overall strategy in “Salve Deus”of celebrating female virtue, the poem draws attention both to the wicked acts of men (Caiaphas, Judas) and to the compassionate acts of women (the daughters of Jerusalem, the Virgin Mary) in the days leading up to Christ’s arrest. None of this comes as a surprise. But when Aemilia arrives at the moment that Pontius Pilate considers Christ’s fate, she does something totally unanticipated. Relinquishing her own role as narrator, she hands the poem over to Pilate’s wife. Among the most minor figures in the New Testament, Pilate’s wife has a single line of verse in only one of the four gospels. In Matthew 27:19, a woman who is never named urges her husband, the Roman governor in Judaea, to disregard the will of the people calling for Christ to be crucified: “Have nothing to do with that just man,” she warns Pilate, “for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.”      In early Christian commentaries and apocryphal writings, this woman was often called Procula Claudia, or simply Procula. In medieval England, Procula was paraded onstage in the mystery plays as an evil woman who almost prevented Christ’s saving humankind; in the York Cycle’s play named for her—The Dream of Pilate’s Wife—Percula, as she’s called there, receives her dream from the Devil himself. There’s no way to know if Aemilia knew this or other medieval dramas; it’s more likely she would have noticed the more positive treatment Pilate’s wife was given in the Geneva Bible, the popular translation done by English Protestants in the 1550s. Consistent with the Protestant belief that everyone should have access to the Bible directly, the translation was heavily glossed with marginal notes. Next to the verse from Matthew regarding Pilate’s wife was a single gloss suggesting that Pilate should have taken the “counsel of others to defend Christ’s innocence.” But whether the treatment of this woman was negative or positive, she had never been asked to perform the role Aemilia gave her in “Salve Deus,” where she delivers one of the strongest defenses for women’s rights that Christianity had ever seen.      In Pilate’s wife, Aemilia found her perfect heroine: a woman whose intervention at the crucial moment could have changed the course of history, if only her husband had listened. With the scriptural verse from Matthew before her, Aemilia made two crucial additions to the story. First, she transformed Pilate’s wife into a faithful believer who already regarded Christ as her Lord. “Hear the words of thy most worthy wife,” she begs her husband, “who sends to thee, to beg her Savior’s life.” Far from simply reporting that she’s had an ominous dream, as she does in Matthew, Pilate’s wife explicitly warns Pilate that he will be killing the son of God.      Second, Aemilia turned Pilate’s wife into a proto-feminist. After urging Pilate to let Christ go on religious grounds, she comes up with a new reason for why he should be pardoned: “Let not us women glory in men’s fall / Who had power given to over-rule us all.” If men are sinful enough to crucify their savior, then women should be liberated from men’s rule. “Your indiscretion sets us free,” she declares, “And makes our former fault much less appear.” In these four short lines, Aemilia’s character anticipates the killing of Christ as the basis for women’s freedom from patriarchy.      As if this weren’t radical enough, Pilate’s wife moves in “Salve Deus” from making her argument about the Crucifixion to recon- sidering the reason for Christ’s sacrifice in the first place. “Our mother Eve,” she exclaims,
. . . who tasted of the Tree Giving to Adam what she held most dear, Was simply good, and had no power to see,  The after-coming harm did not appear.
If Eve had no way to know the damage she might do, Adam was only too aware: it was he who received the command directly “from God’s mouth.” Eve was simply a victim of misinformation and “too much love,” whereas Adam, not betrayed by the “subtle Serpent’s falsehood,” knew exactly what he was doing.      Aemilia was certainly not the first person to defend Eve on grounds of her innocence or to propose that Adam be held responsible for the Fall. She was possibly the first to argue that the crime of killing Christ so overwhelmed any fault of Eve’s that women’s subordination should come to an immediate end. “If unjustly you condemn [Christ] to die,” Pilate’s wife concludes,
. . . Then let us have our Liberty again, And challenge [attribute] to your selves no Sovereignty;  You came not in the world without our pain, Make that a bar against your cruelty; Your fault being greater, why should you disdain  Our being your equals, free from tyranny? If one weak woman simply did offend,  This sin of yours, hath no excuse, nor end.
Hundreds of years before the women’s liberation movement, Aemilia used the figure of Pilate’s wife to argue that the sexes should be equal. In doing so, she also rescued a voice from history, giving full personhood and agency to a woman whom the Bible didn’t regard as worthy of a name.

HIMBO: HEY, ALVA. HOW MANY DIVINERS ARE THERE?
DIVINER: I'm sorry citizen, that is a state secret kept closely guarded for tactical and strategic reasons.
DIVINER: Sorry!!
DIVINER: They drum that into us before we even get our Focuses!! I really can't tell you, though!
FlameHairSavior: Where did this come from?
HIMBO: I WAS REMEMBERING HOW MANY PRIESTS AVAD HAS TO DEAL WITH EVERYTHING, AND WONDERING HOW THE QUEN HANDLE THINGS.
DIVINER: Oh!! I think I understand now!! But Diviners aren't the only priests and scholars. I think I mentioned we're mostly explorers, actually? We can do more administrative work, more easily, thanks to our Focuses, but we have plenty of people trained without them!
HIMBO: I GUESS THAT MAKES SENSE.
HIMBO: WHAT DO YOU DO, THEN? WITH ALL THE SLAG YOU LEARN, I MEAN.
DIVINER: Mostly, we teach! Most of the technology of the Ancestors is still beyond us, but there were enough hints that we were able to learn advanced metallurgy, agriculture, and of course military strategy.
DIVINER: I think most important of all, though, we teach our people the importance of the arts and sciences!
DIVINER: Some of the earliest tribes the Empire conquered were little better than hiding in caves because they refused to understand the importance of progress!
BoyNextDoor: There's value in tradition, though.
DIVINER: Well, yes, of course, but...
DIVINER: Oh, right, you're from a tribe like that.
BoyNextDoor: We're not that bad.
FlameHairSavior: All-Mother Mountain is literally a cave, Varl.
BoyNextDoor: And in the cave is the Cradle facility where you found all these Focuses. If the tribe hadn't been protecting it all this time, who knows what would have happened.
FlameHairSavior: [BenAffleckTiredSmoking.png]
DIVINER: No, he's right! Traditions are important, even if we don't always know why! Your people knew that cave was important, because they remembered they were born there and so stayed close!
DIVINER: My people aren't even sure where exactly we came from!
HIMBO: I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT YOU LOT WOULD KEEP CRAZY GOOD RECORDS. THE OSERAM DO, AND WE DON'T HAVE FANCY FOCUSES.
DIVINER: Yes, of course! But only AFTER we found the cache of Focuses in the Great Delta! We can't be entirely certain where we came from before that!
MARSHAL Kotallo: I am curious how broadly anyone spreads from any given Cradle. Are all of our tribes from different Cradles, or the same?
FlameHairSavior: I think the Carja come from the Nora Cradle. Can't be sure, though.
HIMBO: OH, YEAH, THEY CAME TO MERIDIAN FROM THE EAST. THEIR PRIESTS WILL TELL THAT STORY IF YOU MAKE THE MISTAKE OF SITTING STILL FOR FIVE MINUTES.
MARSHAL Kotallo: How many Cradles are there?
FlameHairSavior: At least nine, because the Nora one is ELEUTHIA-9. But I don't know how many were planned total.
FlameHairSavior: Or how many survived, for that matter. The Faro Plague caused construction and supply problems for Zero Dawn.
Zo: Yes, I read about some of the animal samples that were lost because of the Plague. I have to assume that at least some of the planned facilities failed.
BoyNextDoor: The Nora Cradle has a Metal Devil frozen in the process of trying to dig it out. I think the shutdown came in minutes before they would have breached.
FlameHairSavior: Ah yes. That.
DIVINER: I sense a story!
FlameHairSavior: The High Matriarchs confuse a sense of drama with wisdom.
DIVINER: ??
BoyNextDoor: If you try to get Aloy to explain it will take weeks.
BoyNextDoor: Trust me.
β: but you know dont you
BoyNextDoor: Yes, yes. Assuming Aloy doesn't mind.
FlameHairSavior: I don't care.
BoyNextDoor: Well, as a baby, Aloy was found right outside the Cradle door, where the robot left her. Also, right under the claw of the Metal Devil. High Matriarch Lansra thought this was a sign that she was the daughter of the Metal Devil.
DIVINER: ...and??
BoyNextDoor: And what? That's obviously a bad thing.
BoyNextDoor: It's not like there's any prophecies about children of the Metal Devil or anything, High Matriarch Lansra just jumped to a terrible confusion.
DIVINER: Oh. That story is a lot shorter than I was expecting.
β: a good typo though
FlameHairSavior: Well, it led to me being outcast from birth and I had to win the Proving just to be allowed into my own tribe.
BoyNextDoor: Technically you only had to COMPLETE the Proving. You're the one who insisted on going to extra mile.
HIMBO: OF COURSE SHE DID.
DIVINER: Erend, do your people have any history about where they came from?
HIMBO: NOTHING LIKE A SPECIFIC DIRECTION. WE MOSTLY FOCUS ON HOW WE DELVED INTO OLD ONES RUINS AND LEARNED WHAT WE COULD FROM THEIR MACHINES.
HIMBO: NO ONE WAS LUCKY TO FIND A WORKING FOCUS, THOUGH.
FlameHairSavior: Or maybe every one that was found was immediately broken.
HIMBO: HA HA. IT'S NOT MY FAULT THESE THINGS ARE DAINTY.
DIVINER: How did you find an intact Focus, Aloy? The Quen cache was protected and clearly labeled, and you mentioned the Cradle. Did you find it there?
FlameHairSavior: No, I just found it in a random ruin when I was a child. It was still attached to a skeleton.
β: ew
β: and you just put it right on your head
FlameHairSavior: I was a curious child and it made everything light up when I touched it. So, yes.
FlameHairSavior: These things are pretty much immune to environmental damage. Unless they're hit by something, they last basically forever.
HIMBO: NOW I'M WONDERING WHY THE QUEN NEVER FOUND NORMAL FOCUSES. THEY HAD TO HAVE BEEN LOOKING.
DIVINER: I don't have any answers there, I'm afraid!! Maybe we were just unlucky? It's a very damp region, prone to flooding!
β: or theres a conspiracy keeping all the good things away from the lower ranks because they know it would endanger their dogma
DIVINER: I really, really wish that theory wasn't entirely plausible.
FlameHairSavior: Beta, please stop making people question their entire worldview.
MARSHAL Kotallo: Why not? It appears to be a family tradition.
BoyNextDoor: Ha!
HIMBO: HE'S GOT YOU THERE!
Zo: They are right.
FlameHairSavior: I hate you all.

Grailfinders #313: Percival
Tumblr media
today on Grailfinders we’re finally getting back into the swing of things with one of the guys who actually found the grail, Percival de Galles. He’s an Oath of the Crown Paladin because of course he is, but he’s also a Hexblade Warlock to get a little bit eviler thanks to his holy spear. I don’t trust those pointy bastards after singularity six I don’t care how many good deeds this one’s done.
his build breakdown’s below the cut, his character sheet’s over here.
next up: Tamamo’s not
Race and Background
Percy’s background gets a little funky in the lostbelt, but for our purposes we’re summoning the og Percival, who’s just a normal man. Just an innocent Human. that gives him +1 in two stats like Wisdom and Charisma, as well as a boost to Animal Handling and the feat Heavy Armor Master, reducing all incoming physical damage by 3 points per hit while wearing heavy armor. look at that man’s tits, I 100% believe they could stop arrows.
Other Percival is of course a Knight of the Order, giving him proficiency with Persuasion and Religion. man literally watched a guy get raptured, I’d take his word over a priests’ at this point.
Ability Scores
Percival’s highest score should be in Charisma. look at him. look at that beautiful boy. do you really think he could do you wrong? and that’s how he gets ya. after that is Constitution. shielding others with your body is all fine and dandy, but I’m sure you’d like to survive doing so, right? third is Strength- it’s weird we’re saving your main attacking stat for third, but you’re fighting to protect others more than doing big damage. don’t worry, the damage will come. fourth is Wisdom, you need to be a little discerning to live in a faerie world, after all. that means your Intelligence isn’t too great- he’s got a head for strategy for sure, but I don’t think schools were fantastic in faerie Britain or sixth century england. finally, dump Dexterity. you mostly wear heavy armor anyway, and we had to give you some kind of weakness. that’s also why the lance of longinus is an actual lance in this build. a spear would be easier, but we’re already making a paladin/warlock build, let’s not push things too far or the DMs might get antsy.
Class Levels
1. Paladin 1: if we’re gonna have that heavy armor, we’ve gotta start off in the heavy armor class. as a paladin, you get proficiency in Wisdom, Charisma, Athletics, Insight, and not a billion things at once! yaaayy!
you also get a Divine Sense, letting you know the location of nearby celestials, fiends, and undead a couple of times per day. that’s probably why obebe doesn’t stick around too long in Londinium, huh? you can also lay on hands as an action, healing peeps and curing dizeeps. or poisons. you get 5x your level hp per day, and you can spend 5 points to heal a poison or disease.
2. paladin 2: at level two you get your Dueling Fighting Style for an extra two points of damage with a one-handed weapon. unlike most weapons, the lance doesn’t get weaker when you wield it one-handed. that being said I guess you can pick the Great Weapon Fighting style if you expect to be off your horse more often than not but why would you ever do that? that’s why we’re giving you the horse in the first place! in the future.
you can also cast Spells now, using your charisma to prepare and power them. I like Protection from Evil and Good on account of it protecting you from fae, very important stuff, but since you can swap out your spells every day, it’s not a huge issue. it’ll give your extraplanar enemies disadvantage on attacks and give you immunity to their charms, frightens, and possessions. you also get command and compelled duel for free! the latter’s kind of redundant, but you can only challenge stuff once a short rest, so it’s cool.
if you’d rather go on the offensive, you can use your spell slots to power a Divine Smite instead, dealing radiant damage alongside your usual stabbing. get it now before wotc rolls out their “we’re ruining everything” patch!
3. Paladin 3: at level three you can finally swear your life to your king, becoming a paladin of the Crown. as a crownadin, you can channel divinity in two ways, either issuing a Champion Challenge to everyone nearby, keeping them from moving too far away from you if they fail a wisdom save until you are knocked out, dead, or more than 30’ away from them. you can also Turn the Tide as a bonus action, giving every bloodied creature within 30’ of you whom you choose a little bit of extra hp.
speaking of health, your Divine Health makes you immune to disease, so have fun never having to worry about covid. god I wish that was me. you can also Harness Divine Power once per day, spending your channel divinity to regain a spell slot. your CD recharges on short rests, so having that extra spell or smite can be really useful!
4. paladin 4: at level four you get an ability score improvement, so bomp up that strength to really huck that spear around. right now its just a regular lil dinky lance, but don’t worry. ï̵̳͍̺͛t̵̡̪͎̹͊̏̚'̴̤͍̞̿s̷̫̥̀̔ ̸̥͔̟̘̺̾̌̐͋̋c̵̨͎͚̬̏̋̈́́̄ͅo̵̺̞̾̆m̵̬̹̮̓̾ͅì̸̧͈͚̬̾̅n̵̨͕̰̅̂͋͗̿͜g̶̮̹̪͋́͊͊
5. paladin 5: fifth level paladins can make an extra attack each action for two attacks at a time! you can also shield an ally with warding bond to take half their damage for them, or you can fairy out the truth with zone of truth. you can also find steed now, so bam. horse. mission complete. you can also turn your lance into a magic weapon if u really wanna, but we’ll get something more permanent later.
6. paladin 6: sixth level paladins can make an aura of protection around them, adding their charisma modifier to all saves you and your buddies make as long as you’re conscious. it’s kinda like charisma, in a way. I mean it’s literally your charisma, but we’re referring to the FGO skill here.
7. Paladin 7: a seventh level crown paladin can use their Divine Allegiance as a reaction to take all the damage a nearby ally would instead. if you use this with warding bond, this will actually delete half the damage an effect was supposed to do, though you can’t reduce any damage you take from this with your heavy armor.
8. Paladin 8: at eighth level you can bump up your Charisma for stronger challenges, auras, and other spells. trust me, this’ll be worth it.
9. Paladin 9: ninth level paladins don’t get anything too special innately, but your third level spells are pretty cool. Aura of Vitality lets you use your bonus action to heal a creature each turn, while Spirit Guardians lets you summon an angel to protect you. That’s not necessarily in-character, but it’s cool enough you can probably twist “protection of the grail” to justify it. you can also remove curses, create food, or even revive fallen party members with third level spells. all in all, a super useful level!
10. Paladin 10: at tenth level, you make an Aura of Courage that blocks allies from being frightened near you. though some may fake it just to shelter against you.
11. Paladin 11: our final level in paladin, level eleven gives you an Improved Divine Smite, letting you deal extra radiant damage with each attack for free. now it’s starting to look like a real sacred spear! speaking of…
12. Warlock 1: since you’re wielding a semi-sentient spear that gives you extra power, that makes you a Hexblade warlock! with this, you become a Hex Warrior, which doesn’t do too much to help you, but it does let you pick one weapon a day to use your charisma to attack instead of your strength or dexterity. obviously we intend for you to use this on your lance, but it can apply to any non-two-handed weapon. lances have the special property, not two-handed, so we’re all good!
if you really want a wolf dead, you have to hit it with a Hexblade’s Curse. with this, you can spend a bonus action to curse someone for a minute, during which you can add your proficiency bonus to attack rolls, have a doubled chance to crit, and killing the target heals you.
you also get another set of spell slots which use your charisma, but these recharge on short rests! I’d pick up Blade Ward to give yourself resistance to physical damage for a turn. it takes an action to cast, but when you’re soaking up hits for an ally, it’ll help a lot. Friends is also a great cantrip to grab, Percy just seems like a really personable guy. faeable? whatever.
for your leveled spells, Shield is always useful. an extra five AC for a whole round, plus immunity from magic missile. you can also make a Wrathful Smite as a bonus action, dealing psychic damage instead of the usual radiant and making a creature frightened of you for up to a minute if it fails a wisdom save. shield is, unfortunately, somatic, so we can’t use it too easily just yet, but we’ll get it ready in time.
13. Warlock 2: second level warlocks get Eldritch Invocations, allowing you to customize your eternal servitude to a talking stick. we’re saving one for next level as per usual, but Beast Speech will let you talk to Kuntry pretty easy. I’m like 90% sure you can talk to her in the lostbelt because she’s a faerie, but whatever!
also if your DM lets you ride your horse like you’re using your own movement, pick up Expeditious Retreat to make your ride truly magical, letting you spend a bonus action to dash instead of your main one. or even with your main one, if you truly feel the need for speed.
14. Warlock 3: at level three you take on the Pact of the Blade¸ the only pact hexblades ever seem to take for some reason. you can also take the Improved Pact Weapon invocation now, so we’ll explain the whole shebang at once. you are now able to summon a magical weapon of just about any kind to your hand as an action. it counts as a +1 weapon, though you can attune another more powerful magical spear to your pact if you want- the ritual for that takes an hour. you can also cast your spells through the weapon as though it were a focus.
you can also cast Shatter now to blow stuff up. your noble phantasm is anti-fortress, so it would feel weird not having the option to break walls.
15. Warlock 4: at level four you get another ASI so max out your Charisma for the strongest… I mean, everything really.
you also get a spell and a cantrip this level but tbh they’re not super important to the build, go with your heart.
16. Warlock 5: at level five warlocks can cast third level spells, like Tongues. speaking to everyone was a pretty jesusy sort of thing to do, and you’ve got his blood all over your spear, right? good enough reasoning tbh.
you can also Eldritch Smite now as a bonus action, adding a little force damage and knockback to your next attack by spending a warlock spell slot. now you can perform the legendary triple smite! set up a spell smite on your previous turn, then eldritch smite and regular smite on your next turn! 100% satisfaction guaranteed.
17. Warlock 6: at level six a hexblade warlock can create an Accursed Specter by killing a humanoid, turning it into a specter that follows your commands until the end of your next long rest. this ability is the sole reason we don’t go higher in hexblade that often, but everyone in LB6 is either a fae or a construct, so he might be able to do this, I guess?
yeah this is entirely because we need other stuff down the line, please ignore this level. aside from getting Intellect Fortress that’s pretty cool. it gives you resistance to psychic damage and advantage on mental saves for up to an hour. Percy’s got good magic resistance; this is a known fact.
18. Warlock 7: at seventh level you get fourth level spells, plus a new invocation. Fiendish Vigor isn’t anything too fancy, just lets you add some temporary HP to yourself for free. the real winner this level is Staggering Smite, which adds psychic damage to your lance and forces a wisdom save. on a failed save, the target has disadvantage on all attacks and checks for a turn, and it also can’t make reactions that round. perfect for getting another ally out of harm’s way.
19. Warlock 8: for your last ASI, grab the Tough feat for an extra 38 HP now, plus another two at level 20. the one real downside of this build is we couldn’t focus on constitution as much as I’d like in a tank, but this will help a lot.
your spear can also emit a Sickening Radiance, which deals radiant and exhaustion damage in a 30’ radius around a point you pick, while also preventing creatures in the area from being invisible. just don’t get too close to the spear while you’re doing this, and- oh, you have to hold the thing to use it? that’s rough.
20. Warlock 9: ninth level warlocks get fifth level spells, and if Rhongominiad can make a Wall of Light so can Longinus. we also finally get your invincibility skill thanks to Tomb of Levistus. Once a short rest as a reaction to taking damage you can seal yourself in ice, giving yourself 90 temporary HP to block the hit. Until your next turn you have a vulnerability to fire damage, can’t move, and are incapacitated, so this will drop your challenge. Still, living to fight another day usually trumps keeping an enemy who almost killed you around. all these effects end when the ice melts at the end of your next turn.
sure it’s not literal invincibility, but that’s almost a whole wizard’s worth of body armor you can pull out at will!
Pros and Cons
Pros:
having a maxed out charisma stat plus a champion’s challenge makes you great at locking enemies in place, forcing them to focus on you instead of your squishier party members. you’ve also got tons of ways to reduce the inevitable damage from doing so, with heavy armor master dulling any physical hits and your huge save bonuses keeping you from getting too hurt by magic.
when it’s time to attack, you can hit hard, with three smites in a single attack and a doubled chance to crit from your hexblade’s curse giving you some serious firepower against the big boss. if you can manage to get advantage, that gives your attack whopping 1 in 5 chances at critting.
Normally paladins only really have physical and radiant damage to work with, rendering them pretty useless against anything that resists the latter. thanks to your little dip into eternal servitude, your damage variety is a lot more well-rounded, making it easier to hit whatever you’re fighting.
Cons:
lances are bad. if your DM’s fine with the multiclassing here just stick to a spear- having disadvantage on anything within 5’ of you sucks.
Tomb of Levistus is a powerful survival tool, but it eats up one of your turns and breaks a lot of your spells and effects. if you were already having trouble surviving against something you challenged, I doubt your party will be thrill that you let it loose while you chill for a bit.
you have a slim margin for error. you don’t have a ton of spell slots to use, and your best features only work once per short rest, so if you play sub-optimally you can seriously waste a lot of your potential. no pressure, I’m sure you’ll do great against the infinite Morgan army.
