Life gives me spaghetti i tie it into knots

Life gives me lemons i eat em on the spot

This weeks moral dilemma was sending Des to public school or not. Once we got our first utility bill for Studio City, I pre-enrolled him for what I thought was Kindergarten. Then the school called me and was like "hey, we have TK." I was like uh, can we come visit? So we did and the principal gave us a little class visitation. It was fine.

It just wasn't the amazing preschool he is in now. I already wrote this on my Yelp review, but at his preschool they have SPACE. Multiple spaces, even. Play structure, outdoor area, sandbox, garden, classroom, theater. It feels like a luxury compared to other places, yes. I WANT to save money, save Tim money. I am so grateful we're on the same page. I just can't, in my heart of hearts, do it to Desmond by downgrading his daily experience. We will stop going to that preschool when he graduates next year. My gut has got me this far (he started preschool during covid times - we had a YT video as a tour) so I don't doubt it now.

Turns out freeschool is NOT a no-brainer. It's a lose-sleep issue. For further context, he's been going to this preschool since he was 20 months old. This year was the first year he had no trouble transitioning to a new class - he saw his friends (who he cried about and missed during summer break, btw) and ran at them and hugged them and he pretty much does that every day. When I go to pick him up, 30 minutes before the school closes, he says "Mama, I want more time to play." How I could I possibly take him away from a place he's still reluctant to leave after EIGHT HOURS.

Sometimes I feel like the bar is set so high. I know his next school is not going to be a garden wonderland with three experienced teachers for the whole class. I have to manage my expectations.

It's one of those situations you imagine you know how you'll respond - until you're in it.

One of my mantras lately has been: You don't have to stress about this.

I don't have to, I choose to. And that goes for a whole swath of categories in my life.

I don't have to stress.

I don't have to respond.

I don't have to make space for anyone else.

We're no longer in the business of SHOULDs.

Good afternoon! Happy Motivation Monday! I hope your week is off to a fantastic start! “Slow and steady wins the race” that quote has been on my mind a lot lately. I’m 27 years old but I made the choice to go back to school and get my college degree. Still working on opening up Affirmations Coffee while going to school. But I figured it would be good to get a degree still, I love learning, and I get to go to school for free! And it has taken me longer to actually start up, but I’ve slowly and steadily been working on it and have made progress! A lot from when I started several years ago. One of the reasons it’s taking so long is because I want to start up with no debt. Want to be able to make profit right away and not owe anybody any money.
