There, from the blood of spewing from her neck, her sons Pegasus and Chrysaor were born. Far later, the Roman poet Ovid painted Medusa and her sisters in a completely different light. Rather than being born monsters, in Ovid's telling Medusa and her sisters were cursed by Athena due to Medusa being violated by Poseidon in Athena's temple.
