I think that the Sanders Sides might represent more than each has told.
Let me explain.
Okay, so we know that the sides can represent more than just their official role. Logan also represents reason, knowledge, and realistic expectation. Patton also represent emotions, childlike wonder, and over controlling yourself. Roman also represents passion, ego, femininity, and masculinity. We haven't seen a lot of Remus, and have no official things that he represents besides intrusive thoughts, but we can surmise based on his personality and entrance he also represents dark thoughts (such as ones induced by depression), disturbing thoughts (which are very different from intrusive thoughts), and impulsivity. Janus represents deceit, denial, self-preservation, and selfishness. As for Virgil, he represents anxiety, but he also represents shame, apprehension, introversion, pessimism, paranoia, fear (to some extent), foresight, caution, anticipation, motivation (slightly, but this is more by proxy of him representing anxiety), and satisfaction. Now, that last one may not seem accurate, but here's a quote from Accepting Anxiety Part 2 from Patton: "ALSO, YOU'RE THAT FEELING OF TINGLINESS AFTER ACHIEVING SOMETHING HE DIDN'T THINK WAS POSSIBLE!" That feeling is known as satisfaction. However, satisfaction doesn't seem to go along with the other things he represents, which are all before the event things, while this is a post event feeling. So perhaps he represents more similar things, and perhaps the other sides also have more to them. Let's take another look.
Logan first. Now, if we inspect his behavior throughout the show, we notice something: He seems to get annoyed easily. He also gets angry rather easily. Some would say this signifies that he's being influenced by the orange side, and that the orange side is Anger/Wrath, but I have my own theories about that. I think that this may mean Logan may also represent Anger and Annoyance, two things that would go right along with Logan's personality, and his habit of being ignored over the need to be polite.
Next, Roman. Now, for Roman, it's a bit tricky, however, if we look through everything, including how he acts towards the Dark Sides, we begin to realize something: He seems to decry and defame anybody who is different, suggest a different idea, or who is criminalized by the world. Therefore, he may also represent Bias/Prejudice and Societal Conformity.
Third, Patton. Now, Patton is extremely difficult, but after some searching, verifying, and double-checking, I noticed that Patton's default is to try to convince the other sides that his way is most important, often going to Roman first, then Logan, then the others, in no particular order. Therefore, it could be that our dear daddy Patton also represents Manipulation. However, the reason he hasn't taken total control of them all by now? One, he is likely repressing that part of him in favor of being "nice", and two, Patton is canonically an indecisive mess. With that in mind, we can accurately guess that Patton likely also represents Indecision.
Fourth, Remus. Now, Remus' is a little bit obvious, he essentially says it right up front with the 'cut out all the juicy stuff' comment. Remus is Honesty. And as for the other, it may seem odd, or like I'm reaching, but hear me out. Remus makes a lot of comment about religion, especially on the way of innocence, the losing if it, as well as biblical events that were meant to teach a lesson. Therefore, it is possible that Remus may be Wisdom.
Now for Janus. In SvS Redux he didn't use lies at all near the end, relying instead in harsh truths, ones that Thomas maybe would've preferred to have been kept in denial about, so clearly he didn't care about or even consider his purpose as Deceit. Plus, Thomas wasn't even lying here, so Janus shouldn't have even been summoned. Some would claim that Thomas was in denial, and that's enough, but we have seen that the state of simply being in denial is not enough to summon him, or he would've been summoned three or four thousand times in the first season. You have to actively lie to summon him, and Thomas wasn't actively lying. Additionally, he was summoned in DWIT, when Thomas clearly wasn't intending to lie, and objecting to it in the first place. You know what he was feeling both times? Guilt. So perhaps he represents Guilt, which, while similar to his normal things, is also very separate from them. Now, in addition, we notice that Janus only attacks or uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism. Additionally, his whole purpose throughout the show has been "Protect Thomas by keeping him in denial," but then it became "Protect Thomas by helping him face his inner demons," as seen by the fact that he revealed Remus and allowed them to defeat him when he could've just let Remus keep festering, which would've actually benefited Janus, but not Thomas. So perhaps Janus represents Protectiveness as well, even protectiveness towards oneself.
Now, with this in mind, the realm for what Orange could be suddenly got a lot smaller. It has to be something that could be a dichotomy of Logan while not being an emotion (as none of the sides are an emotion, with the exception of Virgil). Additionally, it needs to leave room for him to also represent things that are not directly related to what he is. Now what is he? I can't say, though I do have my theories.

A Part. Ao3
Summary:
Sure, it was only obvious that the breakup would hurt Patton. But did no one think about love itself?
Or
The others forget Roman is literally love but his bro comforts him
Notes:
First fic! Pardon me if it isn’t up to par but I wanted to get something for you out. (Also some shit happens in my real life, oh and procrastination)
Cw: oblivious/ignorant sides, slight Patton bashing, descriptions of someone looking sick, Remus comforting his bro, Roman has self deprecating thoughts.
Pairings: none!
~~~
It had been only about a week since the breakup. Not that it mattered, the others were still furious. Rightly so. It was all his fault!
The window was open, a slight drift moving the curtains. The sun was setting, casting the room in a low, orange light. The floor was littered with tissues, an overflowing trash can not too far from them.
Roman lay on the bed staring up. His prince costume had long been discarded. His skin was pale, rosy cheeks stained with tears only accentuating that. His hair was disheveled, it looked to be less saturated than before.
“Why must you ruin everything…”
A chocked sob escaped Roman. His voice was barely above a whisper, throat aching after what must have been hours of crying. He let out a shaky breath before continuing his soliloquy.
“If only you had just…Done you *job*…”
Roman turned to his nightstand. There lay a letter. A love letter. Funny wasn’t it? How the one to call Thomas all those names was the same person who called him ‘love’. It didn’t matter anymore. Roman had failed at his sole purpose. Keeping Thomas happy.
———
Remus paced around his room. Not out of anxiety or worry. Janus had prohibited him from entering the living room after he brought in a second dead body. It wasn’t his fault the first one needed a friend!
“Wonder how he’s holding up…” he thought out loud.
Remus seemed to have been the only one to notice Roman’s sudden absence. He was his brother after all, plus Roman was his favourite person to annoy! The others seemed to be too preoccupied with Patton…That bastard. ‘Oh look at me so sad! I am feelings!’ Well, Roman was passion, love for fucks’s sake! It made Remus feel weird…He didn’t like Roman…but they were still brothers.
“That’s it” and with that, Remus quickly vanished from his room.
———
It was deafeningly silent. A tear made its way down Roman’s cheek. He didn’t even bother wiping it away this time, much too tired to move. He looked sick. White hairs had started appearing on his head, all colour having been drained from his eyes. There was no point in trying.
‘At least I won’t burden them anymore’, ‘It’s better like this’, ‘I deserve this’, thoughts like these were floating in Roman’s brain. His eyes slowly closed.
“I’m so fucking sorry Thomas.”
———
Few moments passed before Remus rose up. Morning star in hand, ready to cause trouble.
“Oh Ro-Bro~ Are yo-“ Remus was cut short.
The sight of his brother made his stomach churn, something not many things were able to achieve. No, that wasn’t his brother. His brother was lively, loud, happy…this…
A loud thud was heard as the morning star fell from his hands. Rushing to his brother he sighed in relief when the faint heartbeat and slight coldness of Roman’s breath against his hand alerted Remus he was still alive. He withdrew and placed a hand on Roman’s shoulder, shaking him lightly.
“Ro-Bro, get up.” Remus’ worries came back, since Roman didn’t seem to wake.
“Come on now,” he growled, “get up you fucker!” He shook him more violently, worry slipping into his voice despite his efforts to remain calm.
Why was he even so worried? Roman was still alive after all, and he probably would wake up…oh for the love of fuck! Remus allowed tears to spill from his eyes, voice coming out in a sob as he begged Ro to wake up.
———
Roman’s eyes slowly fluttered open. It must have been morning, perhaps early mid day? Whatever, it’s not like he really cared. His eyes took a bit to adjust to the light invading the room through the curtains. He felt light, almost as if he were floating. Was this a dream?
“Hmmmgg…Ro?” A voice startled him.
Turning his head ever so slightly he was met with Remus’ gaze staring down at him. It seemed as though he had just woken up, still rubbing his eyes. Dark circles framing them, still damp from tears cheeks accompanying them. He looked so…exhausted? Roman had never seen Remus like that, let alone crying. Roman looked at him, trying to ask what was wrong but his voice betrayed him. What came out was a slight whine, barely audible.
“Oh you fucker.” Remus dipped down and hugged him.
Resting his head in the space besides Roman’s head he wrapped his hands around the prince. He felt so relieved. Roman was ok. He quickly pulled back after a groan from his twin’s lips reminded him that he was crushing him. Sitting besides him, he helped Roman sit up on the bed, making sure not to move him too quickly.
Roman felt dizzy, as if his brain was melting in his head.
“What ‘re you doin’ here…?” He slurred out.
Remus stammered, bewildered. Was he really being serious? “You’re kidding right? Roman, you haven’t come out of your room in a week, I come in and find you barely alive, and you ask me why I am here!?”
He didn’t intend on sounding angry, let alone upset, but it happened to come out that way. But was he at fault? Roman was acting like such an idiot.
Roman jolted back a bit. He looked scared. Upset. Worst of all he looked sorry. Ready to break and start apologising, saying sorry for making Remus worry, sorry for being a burden, sorry for being a failure.
Tears spilled from his eyes. They had gained back some of their colour, same with his skin and hair, but he still looked sickly. He tried to speak, but all he could muster up was a faint “s-sorry”.
No, Remus must have misheard right? He all but lunged forward and embraced Roman.
“No. Stop. Just…it’s ok, I’m here” he said as Roman started to sob into his shoulder.
“Sorry for *hic* making you…w-worry” Roman’s words came out barely audible.
“Don’t be. You did nothing wrong, hear me? Nothing.”
Remus patted his twin’s back, humming softly to soothe him. Oh dear….He didn’t like seeing his brother like this. He missed the brave, annoying, over the top Roman. As he made a mental note to give the others a piece of his mind Roman spoke up, finally having calmed down a bit.
“You’re…not mad?”
‘Might as well have driven a dagger straight through my heart’ Remus thought. “No I’m not. Just…I’m sorry, I should have noticed sooner.”
Before Roman could protest Remus continued.
“Just, listen, you’re not a failure, a screw up, whatever. Thomas will find someone new. Shit happens ok? Just cause it’s a part of your job to be love doesn’t mean anything. That’s only a part of you. A part of the amazing Roman.” Remus chuckled. “The, very sadly, lesser of the twins~”
Roman chuckled and pushed Remus off of him.
“Fucker” he said while smiling. ‘Well, what did I expect?’ Roman thought. Remus was his brother after all, and as much as he wanted he couldn’t stay mad.
Plus, the teasing was a part of him, right?
Notes:
Hope you enjoyed! Again this is my first one so sorry for the bad writing. Also for the fact that it’s short, wanted to get it out this week.
prompt? prompt.
Person A orders a uber to be dropped off at a bridge, person B drives the uber and refuses to stop anywhere close to said bridge.
*leaves while whispering apologies (but not really)*
Prompt! (but how dare?)
Okay, my darling dear. This is getting, er...long, especially for tumblr. So, here's how this is going to work. I'm giving you a piece now, for appeasement purposes (and other gushings of gratefulness - you know what they're for) and then the rest will come when it's properly finished (possibly in multiple parts?).
BUT! Enjoy this piece of your other thing. You know, with the thing, and that other thing. All the things, or so we've said. And the too-long trousers made for tripping.
Cw: mental illness, depression, thoughts of suicide (sorry; this is becoming a thing for me now, but whyy?)
----
He paces. He can't stop. His head is so loud, screams echoing, rattling through him, the reverberations leaving shockwaves in their wake, spikes that dig in deeply, pierce him through to gristle and bone. He shakes it, grips hands and fingers into his hair, pulls furiously, desperately, trying to dislodge it, but nothing leaves him, only becoming louder.
It's always so loud.
He gasps in a ragged, tortured breath. He can't do this anymore. It's all too much. Nothing ever works out right. Everyone leaves, never cares enough to stay. He's lost everything that's ever mattered and now nothing matters at all.
He slowly manages to calm himself, just a little, just enough for that mask to settle back in place, the one that keeps the outside world from seeing his torn and fraying edges. Then he grabs his phone up, hires a ride, sets his destination, and steps out onto the street to wait.
Remus is certain he looks like any other mostly normal person when the car pulls up in front of him. The windows are just as black as the paint, and he can't see inside them, but it matches the description on his phone, and he wouldn't have cared if it hadn't. He climbs into the back quickly, mumbles something when the man driving greets him and asks some sort of question. Remus doesn't care about this either.
He scrubs his hands over his face, barely feeling the eyes on him. They're back again, the screams, growing louder. They're trying to drown out the music that's started playing, shouting at a deafening volume. Remus groans quietly, bending forward a bit, inhaling a deep breath, and they retreat just a little, the lyrics fading through his ears instead.
My demons trapped inside my mind Growing wild in their demise Always dancing with the end Like a long-lost friend
Holding my breath 'til my lungs burn bright Finding myself in the light Feeling comfort in the pain Like I'm alive again
Just another storm Just another flame That will be the day
Like, oh-oh 'Cause all I wanna hear is Let me go Meet me on the other side
It starts to rain as the car swings its way around a corner, the soft golden glow of the fading day disappearing with the thick clouds. Remus feels like he can't breathe, but he manages somehow, lungs expanding, a robotic action, motion shocking, sending him back into the seat rest, leather slipping and sticking over his bare arms. He'd forgotten his coat. Fuck.
But why does it matter? It doesn't.
He stares at the window, trailing the drops as they trickle and create pathways over the tinted glass. The car smells like spice, something sharp but sweet. Remus vaguely wonders what it is, thinking it's almost soothing, just not enough. He closes his eyes, blocks everything out. He only needs to get there, then everything will be fine. He'll be able to breathe again. Or not breathe. But that won't matter either.
Words filter back to him over the music, but he ignores it for a long time until they become too insistent. Remus' eyes crack back open, glancing up, seeing a grey gaze fixed on him through the mirror.
"Oi, mate," says the driver. "Are you paying attention now?" Remus nods mutely. "Brilliant. Did you put the address in right? I'm not even sure how you got this location on here. It's not even a true address, is it?"
Remus sighs, looking back out of the window. "It's correct," he mutters.
"Can't be," mumbles the other man, mostly to himself. "Did you trick it or something? It's just a bridge. What's there that's worth going for?"
Janus in Wickhills Part 7
Warnings: discussion of previous unhealthy/abusive relationship,
Notes: (Continuation of recursive fic of @tulipscomeinallsortsofcolors 's Love and Other Fairytales series)
This is an au of Laoft where Remus came back several years earlier, and Linda isn’t in the picture yet. Also takes place some time after Logan has become the Seelie court rep.
Yes, I'm back. Despite having a plan where this story would go for a while, I have had writer's block for certain parts.
Of course, even with all that, Janus would still wake up against Remus.
As embarrassing as that was, part of him didn’t want to move. Even with nagging thoughts about there being so much unsaid from the others around him, including Remus, it was easier to pretend things were fine while here like this.
-
“C’mon Jay, try it. I have a feeling you’ll like it.”
Janus looked at the drink in front of him that Wren got him. He’d called it a milkshake.
“Why are we doing this again?”
Wren sighed, but he was still smiling.
“We have to wait for magical stuff to be figured out. My friend who studies psychology said it’s a good idea to surround amnesiacs with familiar things and surroundings to jog memories. Since we have no idea what is familiar to you, it seemed like a good idea to take you to different experiences. Plus, it can be fun too. Like drinking milkshakes! I know Vee is a big fan. Most fae have big sweet tooths.”
Janus furrowed his brows for a moment.
“That just means they really like sweets. It’s an expression.”
“Ah.” Janus simply said. “I wonder what influenced that one.”
“Sounds like a good conversation to have with Lo later. He loves those types of topics.”
Janus hmmed. He then took a cautious sip. His eyes widened as the drink hit his tongue.
“Well?”
Janus’s lips twitched into a smile. He then started to suck the milky drink down. Wren giggled.
“Seems like you like it,” Wren said.
Janus emphatically nodded. Remus snickered next to him. He had his own that was green-colored for some reason. The quaple seemed to alternate with who would spend time with him. Virgil was there the least with princely duties. Remus always tagged along though.
Wren continued, “If this is your reaction to a vanilla milkshake, I can’t wait to see what you think of the other flavors. Th-“
“Yes.”
Wren blinked.
“Hm?”
“I want to try others.”
“Heh, right now?”
Janus started to nod but then paused.
“Uh, I mean…I don’t really know how much they cost, so-“
But then Wren waved him off.
“Oh, you don’t have to worry about that sweetie.”
They left the park that they had been at to go back to the milkshake place.
“Okay. So, I don’t have all the flavors here, but I have a good amount.”
Janus stared at the several milkshake options in front of him. Remus was wiggling in place also staring at them.
“Uh, what’s in them?”
“Oh! Like the flavors? Silly me, I should have started with that.”
He then proceeded to list the flavors he had gotten as samples for Janus. Many of which Janus had never heard of.
“I didn’t get any red ones, just in case-“
“In case of what?”
Wren hesitated.
“Well, there’s a certain employee that at times has incorrectly given a red berry drink, which is not good for fae.”
Janus was aghast. “Wha, that is such a stupid thing to do.”
“I’ll fight them,” Remus muttered.
Wren laughed a little nervously.
“Remus no,” He said with a sigh. “Lo doesn’t want that. Some people are just mean.”
“Even still, you would think survival instincts would kick in. It’s just plain dumb to do something like that to a fae. They are so much more powerful than humans. Honestly,” Janus said.
Wren gave him a look for a moment.
“Well, I mean Lo wouldn’t do anything. At least on purpose.”
“I just mean in general.”
Wren hmmed. “Yeah, I see what you mean.”
He seemed to ponder something for a moment.
“Well anyways, there is still plenty of options here! Go ahead and try one.”
Janus kind of wished he could see what they looked like to decide if they seemed appetizing. Well, he could always open the lid and look before trying them.
“Oh, I don’t actually know if fae can get sick from drinking too many of these. I probably should have asked Vee earlier.”
Janus simply shrugged. He only took a swig of most of the ones he tried.
Most of them were good. There was one that he had to just keep drinking though because gosh was the taste exquisite. Wren giggled.
“I guess that’s the one. Which one is that?”
“Butterscotch I think you said?”
“Oo, those are very sweet. I can see why that would be your pick.”
Janus hmmed and continued sipping.
“That is also a flavor that has been around for a while.”
The trio turned to see Lo approaching them. Remus waved wildly at him.
“Hey, Snowmelt! What brings you here?”
“I wanted to see how you were doing. Looks like you found a fun endeavor to explore.”
Wren smiled big.
“Yeah! I mean, sweets are fun anyways. I figured it would be nice.”
Lo smiled at him and nodded.
“Yes, that makes sense. As long as you don’t overdo it of course.”
“He’s a fae, Lo!”
 “That doesn’t negate the good practice of nutrition. Also, you are not.”
“I’m not drinking them all! I just wanted to give him samples.”
Lo’s lips twitched up.
“I see. And what did you plan to do with the rest of them?”
Wren shrugged.
“I’ll drink them!” Remus started to grab for one when Lo picked it up.
“I doubt you need that much either.”
Remus pouted at him.
“We can share them,” Wren said. “Here, you can bring one to Vee.”
He said, handing one of them to him. Lo rolled his eyes fondly.
“Very well. You might want to get the others refrigerated quickly. Their rate of melting is probably faster than how soon you can pass them all off. You’ll end up throwing them out.”
Wren stuck his tongue at him before Lo left again. Wren sighed.
“Well, let’s take these I suppose. Hopefully, there’s room in my parents’ fridge.”
Janus and Remus helped Wren with the drink carriers as they left. Remus was still snickering. So Janus wouldn’t be surprised if the other had sipped from the milkshakes he was holding anyways. Janus drank from his own as they went.
-
Wren’s parents were busy, Janus supposed running the farm or something. It sort of felt like the group that found Janus was taking turns watching him. Which, felt kind of embarrassing in a way. Like he was being babysat. He was an adult, they shouldn’t find this necessary. He was sure it was their way of trying to help. He didn’t know much about himself at this point or what he would have done during the day anyways. It was nice in a way to have Remus often tag along though. Even if there was still some sort of tension there, one that was different. Weird. Not the kind Remus smirked at. Janus could tell there were things he still wasn’t being told. He wasn’t sure how much they actually related to him though. This whole situation just kept being confusing.
“Ok!” Wren said after they put what was left of the milkshakes away. Remus had indeed sucked up the ones he was holding, so the others managed to fit. “Let’s check out some other fun things to do around town. Admittedly…there isn’t a lot. But we make up for it with companionship!”
Janus couldn’t help a snort at that. Wren smiled a little sheepishly.
“Yeah, I know. But hear me out, we can have a good time.”
“Oh, I don’t doubt you,” Janus said, somehow believing it. More from the other’s enthusiasm though.
At first, they just walked around while Wren chattered on about the different things he would do with his loves. Mainly the two more human-like ones he had apparently grown up around. It seemed that locations could be hard to track in Wickhills though. Something about areas continuing to move? Janus didn’t really get it. Wren was right about there not being much to do though. Nothing about what he said stuck out to Janus. Nothing really seemed familiar. He figured this was a bad town to have amnesia in if there were inconsistencies. Occasionally they had to change direction though if a house had too many fae-defense charms though. Apparently, those always gave Lo a hard time.
There was the park. That Wren had brought them to drink their milkshakes at originally. Lo used to hang out there by himself apparently before he befriended Wren. Same with Wren. The place they got milkshakes, so Janus had already seen those places. A library. Janus wasn’t sure if he wanted to go in or not though.
They passed the graveyard at one point. Wren briefly described it. Something changed in his face though, before he kept walking past. Janus figured it wasn’t worth pushing. He doubted there would be anything significant there anyways.
They ended up back at Wren’s house sooner than anticipated.
“Lo and I liked to do puzzles. I don’t think that’s contingent on a specific place. Later we can ask Vee about a faery game he likes.”
Janus nodded. Remus had started to inch closer as they traveled. He would have interesting bouts of loud chaotic to a strange calm quiet.
“We could watch something?” Wren suggested.
Janus shrugged.
“There’s some things that Lo likes. I like to go to cartoons like my friend Em. Oh! How about some classic Disney? That’s usually a good idea.”
Janus raised an eyebrow. “Uh, sure?”
Wren smiled. “I’ll go set that up. Remus have you had popcorn yet? Is it something you like?”
“Hmm, dunno. I’d probably eat it though hehe.”
Wren smiled at him fondly.
“Alright. I’ll do that. Feel free to sit at any of the couches or chairs in front of the tv.”
Janus made his way over. Remus was practically against his side as they say on the couch.
“Uh, you good?” Janus asked him. Remus blinked and tilted his head.
“It’s just, I know I don’t know all your tells or anything, but it seemed like something was wrong to me.”
Remus gnawed on his lip a little, as though he was unsure of something. Janus reached up to pull his lip away but paused before touching him, unsure. Like he tended to be. Remus looked at where Janus’ hand was. He released his lip and grabbed Janus’ hand to kiss it. Janus giggled a little. Remus gave him a small smile. Janus did notice of course that Remus had not answered his question though. Typical fae dodging. That thought gave Janus pause. Did he do that too? He didn’t really have memories of a frustration with telling the truth.
Then again, fae were likely used to it, so maybe that didn’t mean anything.
“You’re different than him.”
Remus said suddenly, surprising Janus some.
“Different from…who?”
Remus wouldn’t look at him.
“…Dee. The one who you resemble. Former Fae King who caused a lot of hurt to a lot of people here.”
He took a breath. “I was his pet you could say, also his knight. A long time ago. I figured with what we may be starting to have, you deserve to know.”
Janus scooted away some to look at Remus, who still wouldn’t meet his eye.
“…Remus, what do you mean his pet?”
He sighed. He opened his mouth to answer then paused.
“What are you doing!?” He said to behind them. Janus turned to see Wren jolt in surprise. He had one of those phone devices out, that he had been tapping on.
“Oh, I was just, answering something-“
“Do you all still think I can’t take care of myself?” Remus asked with a growl. Janus looked between the two of them confused.
“What on earth are you on about?”
Before they  could respond a door swung open
“I heard Disney movie night~” Ro sang as he entered the house.
“I just had to join.”
“Ro, you didn’-“
“Oh, it’s no trouble my sweet. I don’t have a problem hanging out with a love and a brotherly friend. I’m sure Lo at least may want to-“ Ro paused when he spotted the tension around Remus.
“Ah. I see.”
Remus crossed his arms.
“Me wanting to come to movie night doesn’t have to mean anything!” Ro exclaimed.
Then Vee appeared in his shadow thing again. Janus jumped.
“Goodness gracious!”
Vee cleared his throat. “Sorry…”
Remus groaned. “Way to make everything awkward you two.”
“Hey now,” Wren started, “We didn’t-“
“Oh can it, songbird.”
“Hey, Remus. There’s no need-“
“Shut it. I’m tired of this.”
He turned to Janus again. “So much for the soft intimacy with trust I was going to tell you this with, but it’s worth noting at this point.”
“Remu-“
“He’s going to find out eventually!”
Remus huffed. “By pet, I mean he treated me as less than. Objectified me, or like I was a trophy. He saw me as his property, and was forceful with getting what he wanted out of me. Including getting physical if he didn’t approve, usually if he took me to be overstepping my place.”
The room got quieter.
Remus continued, “The last I saw or heard of him is when he sent me on a difficult and harrowing quest to retrieve near impossible items for him. Because I had a tendency to overdo pranks and he was annoyed with how they were affecting his new human pet.
So, the others here, who know of my history with dear Dee and how it impacted me, are worried. They think that this isn’t good for me because of your likeness to him. That it’s triggering or will take me back. It’s not their decision, but that’s how they are about this. They seem to fear-“
“Rem-“
“That you might be him. That they will have to deal with him all over again should he get his memories back. That is not what I think though.”
Janus blinked. There was a lot to process there. He looked around at them.
“Remus, Lo didn’t think he would be ready to hear that,” Vee said.
“Oh pffft. You really expect me to believe it’s not because you all are cowards?”
Wren gasped.
“Remus!”
“Save it! I’m just frustrated, ok. We aren’t going to get anywhere helping him with all these secrets and tensions. You think we can’t feel that? We’re more intuitive than you’d take us for. I’m trying to think of who we’re helping here, even if it’s not fun to hear.”
Part of Janus wanted to run away. But he didn’t know where he could go. Clearly, there was danger even if he didn’t know all of what it was. There was a very uncomfortable tension in the room now. He was probably supposed to say something. There was so much going through his head then though.
“So…you all have been keeping things from me?”
Some of them started to protest.
“You have to understa-“
“We were trying to look out for you. We didn’t know what you could handle to hear.”
“Right,” Janus muttered. “Who would respond well to the knowledge that they remind everyone they are around of a monster? That even makes the Prince of the forest nervous.”
“We’re not going to treat you differently because of that-“
“Oh, like you haven’t already been?”
That got them quiet. He huffed. “Leave it to Remus to tell me anything around here. In fact, let’s talk,” Janus said the last part to Remus.
 “Cause he’s the only one I trust right now.”
Janus stomped into the next room, Remus nervously following. Janus sighed and faced him.
“Who do you see, when we interact Remus?”
“I see you, Jay!”
“I don’t remind you of him at all?”
When Remus didn’t answer, Janus closed his eyes.
“Jay-“
“I’m not blaming you, Remus. Just, I need a moment.”
He heard Remus walk back. Janus had to take a few breaths. Things would be different now. At least for him, since apparently, they had felt that way since the beginning. He had so many mixed feelings.
He went back into the room where the movie was set up. They were sitting around. Lo was there now too. Well, he supposed that was alright.
Janus sat back where he was on the couch. He leaned into Remus, but it didn’t feel as comfortable. He still sought him out though. The movie was Snow White apparently. Janus hadn’t heard of or seen it before. Remus gradually began to untense. Nothing was familiar from the movie. Aside from the forest setting for part of it. A sleeping curse hm? Janus wondered why the witch would do that.
The unfamiliarity was his normal now. He didn’t know if this uncertainty and now this tension would go away.
Hey.
First I wanted to say that i really like you work and that i often think about commenting my thoughts on it but since english is not my native language i feel very insecure about that.
I don’t even know if you take request for that but maybe you could write an poly marauders x reader, Where the reader feels really bad about their bad grades in Arithmacy ( i feel like thats the closest to math right) and feels so dumb and worthless after almost failing an examen and the marauders make her feel better and stuff.
Sorry for bad spelling or if it doesn’t make sense at all
I wish you a wonderful weekend!
Doing your best [Poly Marauders]
A/N: Thank you so much for your request, you’re so sweet! You shouldn’t feel insecure, your English is great! And please don’t ever feel insecure about commenting or reaching out, it means so much to me and I couldn’t care less if you make mistakes, I do too.
Pairings: Poly Marauders x fem! reader
Words: 1.1k
Warnings: Polyamorous relationship, Reader being bad at Arithmancy, wizarding grades, the grade ‘p’ stands for poorly, bad test results, the implication of punishment, reader being hard on themselves, crying.
_____________________________________________________________
Looking down at the paper placed on the desk in front of you tears welled up in your eyes. The ‘P’ written in bold red not concealing how absolutely horrible you were performing in arithmancy. You stared at the paper for a few extra seconds before scrambling to get it off of your desk and tucked it away into the depths of your bag, hopefully also letting it leave the forefront of your mind. Unluckily for you, James was seated next to you and didn’t miss your ‘poor’ grade, giving you a disappointed look and an almost silent ‘tsk’.
He, alongside your two other boyfriends, probably thought it was because of you slacking off, but it was almost the opposite. You had studied so hard for that test and the subject of Arithmancy, but no matter what you did or how long you studied for it never sank in properly, leaving you frustrated at your lack of understanding. Numbers had never been your strong suit and it clearly showed, you were mentally slapping yourself, beating yourself up.
‘How could I have been so stupid!? Getting a ‘poorly’… what are they going to do with me?’
Your thoughts were all jumbled, which is why you hadn’t noticed the class being dismissed and James packing away his own things and then packing yours as well, taking in the distracted look on your face. He grabbed your bag and slung it over his shoulder, on top of his own, before he reached a hand out for you to take. “Come on, baby… let’s go.”
You were snapped out of your thoughts, looking dumbfoundedly at James’ hand causing James to chuckle a little, but in the end placing your hand in his, letting him lead you towards their dorm.
Arriving at their dorm, James opened the door letting you enter before him and shutting the door softly after himself.
“Hi! How was the Arithmancy test?” Remus asked, getting up from the bed to greet you with a kiss.
“Well, I think our little darling has been slacking off… the grade she received was less than stellar,” James said disappointedly crossing his arms before he walked over to his bed, dumping both his and your bag on it.
Sirius’s head perked up, no longer paying attention to the book in front of him. “Oh? And what grade was that puppy?”
You fiddled with your fingers, not wanting to meet their eyes, feeling stupid and small under their intense gaze.
“Uhm…” you didn’t want to say it out loud, knowing how much they pestered you to get good grades and keep up with your schoolwork… it being a part of your rules.
Though, you knew you wouldn’t be able to hide it since James had seen the grade in plain view.
“Come on, bun, what was it?” Remus pressed, growing impatient knowing by James’ disappointed face that it was bad.
“I-I… uhm… got a ‘p’,” you finally let out, voice small almost a whisper.
You finally looked up at them and your heart dropped taking in the way Remus’ face fell in disappointment.
“That wasn’t very good, was it bunny?” Remus looked down upon you, a stern look replacing his disappointed one.
You just shook your head, unable to answer without breaking down in tears. Your fiddling fingers turning to knuckle cracking, your eyes glassy with impending tears.
“Answer him,” Sirius said sternly, also abandoning the bed and walking to stand in front of you as well.
“n-n-no,” you replied shakily, all your energy being used to keep the tears at bay.
Remus shook his head, “well, bun, it’s very disappointing… I hadn’t even realized you were slacking off, but you know what happens when you do.” He was hinting towards a punishment, those reserved for when you were being a brat or slacked off on purpose, but now it didn’t feel like you deserved one.
The threat of a punishment finally causing the tears to fall, your knees wobbling weakly and quickly giving out on you causing you to fall to the floor as sobs left your mouth. Your face was buried in your hands as tears leaked out of your eyes.
“I-I’m so-sor-ry, I di-dn’t mean to… I t-tried so ha-rd,” you sobbed out, voice breaking and hiccups interrupting your sentence.
The three boy’s stern faces fell into those of soft ones, their tough demeanor leaving them as they watched you break down before them. They looked between each other; sympathy was written in each of their features.
James was the first to kneel down at your level, using his right hand to pry your face out of your hands forcing you to look at his face. His heart dropping at your tear-stained face, feeling your pain.
“It’s okay, darling… c’mere,” James opened his arms for you; you immediately fell forward, wrapping your arms around his neck and burying your face in the crook of his neck, letting out some more tears and sobs.
His arms were wrapped tightly around you to comfort you until you were ready to talk about it.
Remus and Sirius shared a look, and both kneeled as well, engulfing both you and James in a massive hug. You let out a breath of contentment, your tears ceasing and your breath evening out.
“Can you explain to us what happened?” Remus asked carefully, not wanting to push you in your fragile state.
They all leaned back so you could look at their faces when speaking to them. When your face was out of hiding Sirius took your face in his hands and used the pads of his thumbs to wipe your tears, causing you to lean into his touch, his heart swelled, and he smiled softly.
“I have been studying for that test for weeks, I just can’t seem to grasp the subject… it’s so frustrating and I don’t know what’s wrong with me… I just feel so stupid,” you rambled, airing out your thoughts and frustrations.
“You’re not stupid, puppy… you’re so smart, but you can’t be good at everything,” Sirius said, still holding your face and kissing you softly.
“Bunny, you could have asked for help… I’ll gladly help you study for the next test; I’ll make sure you get a good grade,” Remus offered.
Your face left the warm touch of Sirius’ hands to tackle Remus in a giant hug, kissing him all over his face. “Thank you, Remmy!” you squealed.
The three boys chuckled at your excitement for something as dull as studying for arithmancy.
“I love you all,” you sighed.
“We love you too, darling, even if you are bad at arithmancy,” James said with a small smirk earning him a smack on his arm.
James dramatically grabbed his arm, “oi! Watch it, I play quidditch with that arm.”
5.
Remus’ life was lived in cycles, various phases of the moon commandeering partially how he felt.
His sex drive was always pretty high; how could he not feel desire- when he had Y/N around him in his life. They had a great sex life, and Remus was definitely one to get ‘love boners’, where he would see Y/N do something not remotely suggestive but would get the desire to fuck out of sheer adoration..
When the full moon came close, however… it was on a whole other level. His body carried tension and almost an incurable itch on the days preceding his transformation. His senses flared like a wolf’s, like hearing, touch and vision. It was his sense of smell, however, that enhanced the most. For about 2-5 days leading to the full moon, his smell became much sharper. If Y/N had recently showered, her fresh scent would overwhelm his nostrils, or if she got sweaty too. The second she got aroused, Remus would be able to pick it up, and the urge to bury his face in between her legs would wash over him.
So, he 300% got way hornier during this period of time. Paired up with his senses on overdrive, all he could think about during those few days was sex with Y/N, the tiniest things she did would get him instantly hard. He’d be turned on all the time.
As the month of September came to a close, both Y/N could definitely sense her husband’s even-higher-than-normal yearning. Remus’ persona in public never revealed how much of a beast he could be in the bedroom, always calm, respectful, prudent. He treated Y/N with the upmost care, and once they got to Hogwarts, with the upmost professionalism. That quickly faltered in the last couple of days.
The second students were out of her last class, he had her pushed up against the wall, the door of the classroom safely locked. Y/N even had to cancel one Charms practice session, because Remus wasn’t able to keep his hands off her: pulling her close to him and rubbing her back while he buried his nose in the perfume of her hair. When they graded or read together in the evenings, he would bend her over the desk, then take her again in the shower that night. Every morning, Y/N would wake up in the best way possible, feeling Remus’ tight hold behind her and his already hard cock rutting up against the flesh of her butt.
This morning, however, the couple wasn’t able to squeeze in a nice wake-up shag. They had overslept, and Y/N who started at 9am while Remus at 10, had to to get to class. She hurried off, getting dressed and down for a quick breakfast, leaving Remus waking up alone, humping the sheets slightly.
His frustrations lasted all day, and definitely were not aided when he saw that Y/N was wearing his favourite pair of pants of hers at lunchtime. While the way they looked at each other always somewhat hinted at their romance, Remus’ gaze was especially obvious, like he was mentally undressing her everywhere they went.
He was presently in between classes, sitting at a table in the staff room and trailing his wand over the lines of a student’s essay he was reading. He lifted his head when he heard the door creak open, and Y/N walked in happily, carrying a stack of papers in her hands. His thread was almost thrown back as he caught a whiff of her, just pure her, mixed with a hint of… arousal? She was wet, Remus thought lewdly.
Spotting Remus, Y/N gave him a big smile, then turned towards a little desk that had some of her stuff on it. Remus gave her a cheeky wink before his eyes followed her, unabashedly fixed on how those pants fit her so nicely. Y/N bent down to store the papers into her bag, and Remus quickly had to look away, forcing his gaze on the window before he would get hard.
“Hi, my love.” He smiled gently as she approached him, turning his chair and pulling her onto his lap.
“Rem!” Y/N whispered, jerking her head towards Professor Sprout.
She was the only other teacher there, but to Remus’ greatest delight, she seemed to have snoozed off in her armchair.
“She’s asleep.” Remus whispered back, hands running everywhere on Y/N’s body as she settled herself comfortably in his lap. “Besides, I missed you.”
“Aw, pumpkin-“ Y/N giggled, accepting Remus’ kiss as he pressed his lips on hers. “I, missed, you, too” She murmured in between kisses.
Remus’ hands were getting antsy, as one went to go squeeze Y/N’s breasts and the other caressed over her butt, smoothing over the thin fabric of her dress pants. The kiss deepened as they both began breathing heavier.
“Don’t,” Y/N breathed in, breaking apart from Remus’ soft face. “Don’t you have class in like-“ She glanced at the clock. “5 minutes?!”
Remus peered over her head and groaned, shaking his tousled head. “And you do too darling, right?”
“Yeah, it’s my last one of the day.” Y/N frowned.
Remus’ gaze softened, nuzzling Y/N’s nose with the tip of his own, in a cute little Eskimo kiss- type action.
“I really love these pants, you know, I’m wondering if you wore these on purpose” He grinned, the hand on her butt petting the material softly.
“Maybe, I did….” Y/N smiled back, their faces centimeters away from each other’s.
Remus, ears full of Y/N’s voice, nose full of Y/N’s natural homey scent, didn’t register the door opening again and they both turned with a jolt, when they heard Professor McGonagall clear her throat.
Y/N jumped out of Remus’ lap, Remus smoothing his hands that were all over her body, over his robes.
“Hi, Professor McGonagall- I was just- we were just getting ready for our next l-lesson.” Y/N stammered, face growing hot in embarrassment.
“Yes, class, here- I’ll walk you to your class, darling.” Remus said, bowing his head and following Y/N out of the staff room.
“Mhmm.” Professor McGonagall hummed, peering at the two through her thin rectangle glasses. She didn’t bother reminding them they could call her ‘Minerva’, but as they shuffled out the door, her thin lips curled up in amusement. “Oh, Pomona, I’m sure you are very lucky to be dead asleep right now.” She whispered, to the Herbology teacher whose eyes were sealed shut.
In the hallway, Y/N and Remus burst out laughing once they got a safe distance away.
“I am never going to emotionally recover from that.” Remus choked in between gasps for breath.
“Please, I’m never going to look her in the eye ever again.” Y/N howled, wiping a tear with her wrist. “I mean, at least we were just sitting… and not actually doing.. anything.”
They walked along a couple stairways, their body language having adjusted to the busy Castle.
“Thanks for walking me, you didn’t have to.” Y/N said, once they reached the Charms classroom. She stood back to the door, hands behind her on the doorknob.
Remus simply smiled courteously, eyes drifting down her. Then, quickly, he peered around them and into the classroom. Seeing it was empty, he reached behind Y/N, turned the doorknob and swirled her inside, pressing her up against the door.
“Oh, Rem-“ Y/N squeaked in surprise, but her voice faded into a soft moan as Remus kissed her, her arms going up to wrap around his neck.
“Sorry, my love, I just can’t get enough of you.” Remus chuckled when they finally pulled apart.
“Hmm.” Y/N licked her lips. Feeling Remus casing her in against the door like this, his big build towering over her, made her knees all weak. “Okay, you know the best part about these pants?” She inquired.
“Hmm? Tell me, sweetheart.” Remus mused, eyelids growing heavy as he stared into her face.
She rose on her tippy toes to meet the height of Remus’ ears, “The material is so thin-”
She spun around, facing the door and pressed her backside against Remus’ front, feeling him through his trousers.
Gasping as Remus’ large hands went up to squeeze both her breasts, further pushing her against the door as he pressed himself against her smaller body, she said, “-I have to wear a thong.”
Remus’ hands on her froze, his eyes growing dark. A low growl was ebbing up his throat but before he could respond, Y/N snaked out of his hold.
“Okay, bye honey- have a good class!” Y/N chirped, grinning widely as she opened the door to let a group of students in.
Remus composed himself in a fraction of a second, a hand raking through his hazel locks in attempt to comb them over.
“Hi, Professor Lupin!” Some students said, happy to see him, to which he answered with a polite and kind “Hello, hello!”, and “Hello, Dean!”.
Once Y/N’s class was over, she hurried up to her living quarters. After taking a hot shower, she climbed onto the bed, in nothing but a thong and one of Remus’ big sleeping shirts. She lied down comfortably, fingers toying with the collar as she waited for her husband. He had one other class after hers and should be finished soon.
Accurately enough, Remus’ figure appeared in the fireplace a few minutes later. His footsteps approached the bedroom and as he entered, his belt was already clinking as he was unfastening it with one hand.
“Oh, baby.” He hummed appreciatively as he took in the sight of Y/N, splayed across their bed, thighs balmy and exposed. “Is that my shirt?”
Y/N nodded, appreciating how Remus’ locks of hair had fallen on his forehead, as if he was constantly running his fingers through them- which he did, in attempt to concentrate when he was giving his last lessons of the day.
Gripping the hem, Y/N lifted the shirt off, exposing her naked chest. Remus made a guttural sound as he lunged forward, going to squeeze, lick and suck over her breasts. His hands wandered south, grazing the wet spot on the cotton stripe that covered Y/N’s mound.
“And whose pussy is this, hmm?” Remus snarled slightly, canines shining as his lips curled into an eager smirk.
Y/N licked her lips as she decided not to answer, her eyes had a glint to them when she stared back challengingly at her husband.
Remus raised an eyebrow, but kept an unfazed demeanour. He stepped back from the bed, taking a stand at the edge of it.
“Okay, baby girl, I see how you’re being. Turn around for me.”
Y/N looked up at him excitedly before slowly turning on the bed, onto her stomach.
Remus let out a small appreciative growl at the sight of Y/N’s ass covered only by a thin thong, right in front of him ready for him to ravage.
“Should’ve started with an easier question, kitten- who does this ass belong to?” Remus simpered.
He bent forward to squeeze both cheeks in his large hands, then went on to graze his teeth softly against the flesh of her ass. He could smell her arousal fully now, the scent of her wetness entering his nostrils and clouding his vision.
When Y/N merely arched her lower back to stick our her bum more prominently, wiggling it, Remus cursed. He roughly palmed the flesh before he lifted his hand and delivered a loud swat to it.
Y/N gripped the sheets in her hands as she yelped out of pleasure.
“You like that, don’t you, you wanted a good spanking from daddy, huh?” Remus hummed, rubbing over the spot soothingly.
“Yes.” Y/N breathed out shakily. “Please.”
Remus kneaded the flesh in his hands and reveled in the way it would bounce after he spanked it a few more times.
“Oh darling,” he cooed, bending down to leave a slow trail of kisses up Y/N’s back. “Your little bum looks so cute marked up in pink by my hands.”
The skin had pinked, and a considerable area too, considering how large Remus’ hands were.
“Remus, I’m- I’m so wet for you.” Y/N cried, lifting her lower body weight onto her knees so Remus could see her pussy in the air. Glistening and dripping in arousal.
The sight sent adrenaline down Remus’ groin, his cock now painfully hard and straining against his trousers. He could in a flash, shed his lower layers and pound into Y/N’s cunt as his urges wished him to, but he had to get a taste first.
“Really?” He said as he kneeled down on the side of the bed, now eye-level with Y/N’s core. He peeled back her thong, throwing it further on the bed.
“Yes, oh God, please.”
Remus peered over Y/N’s legs to see her face, scrunched up in anticipation. His hands trailed over the side of her thighs, sending visible shivers down her spine.
“Now, will you be a good girl and tell me… who this pretty ass and pussy belong to?” He said in a low purr, voice husky.
Y/N’s pussy clenched as she felt his face so close to where she needed him to be, his hands cementing themselves around her legs.
“Yours, Remmy, I’m all yours, now please-“ she begged, tears prickling at her eyes because of how much she ached for his touch.
Remus’ hands softly grazed down her back and pressed harshly once they got to the lower part where the curve of her ass began, and pulled her cunt straight into his face.
“Merlin, you smell so fucking sweet.” He swooned, inhaling deeply before quite literally diving into her cunt, his warm tongue stretching to lick against her clit.
Y/N’s eyes rolled back, her head pressing harder into the pillow. “Fuck…” She choked out. Her hips gyrated against Remus’ face, but his firm hold locked her in place as he devoured her.
They both moaned, Remus’ tongue running up her slit a couple times to lap up all the slickness and fully taste it. He gave her clit a quick kiss before sucking on it, taking it in between his lips.
“Fuck, r-right there.” Y/N breathed out, finally feeling an ounce of her desire fulfilled.
Remus licked sloppily at her clit, drawing wet circles with his tongue as his entire face was engulfed in her, her wetness dripping and coating his chin and nose. He sighed contently, closing his eyes as he ate her out, his own cock plumping at the feeling of her hips and legs trembling.
It was like meditation, the wolf inside him finally somewhat being appeased. He lapped at her cunt like it was the last thing he’d ever do, tongue running through the soft folds that were sopping and slick from the mix of her arousal and his spit.
“Oh, Rem, oh-“ Y/N moaned, face scrunched in pleasure. The coil in her abdomen wound tighter, she was getting closer and she pushed her hips back against Remus’ mouth. He groaned into her cunt, his hands squeezing her fleshy hips harder, desperately stuffing his face into her. He loved it.
He maintained his rhythm, focusing on suckling and flicking his tongue on her clit until she came with a cry, hips shaking out of his hold. He flattened his tongue to run it up her labia, and ended by planting a tender kiss on her sensitive clit before pulling away, slightly more sated than before.
“Delicious.” Remus panted, standing up and watching Y/N languidly turn over onto her back once again. He wiped his mouth and the tip of his nose clean with the back of his hand, Y/N watching with her face hot.
Y/N scooted to sit at the edge of the bed, ogling him. He towered over her as he stayed standing, looking down at her through heavy hungry eyelids, covered by his brown hair that was getting slightly messier.
“Wanna taste you.” Y/N smiled, reaching behind Remus’ kneecaps to bring him closer.
Remus chuckled darkly, his long arm needing to barely reach to stroke Y/N’s jaw.
“You look so cute from up here, dove, makes me want to play with you and see you cum, all over again.” He said, voice low.
Y/N bit her lip, not breaking eye contact with her husband.
“So gorgeous.” He groaned as Y/N took his thumb between her lips, suckling the pad of the finger. “You have no idea how much I’ve been thinking.. of what I want to do to you, how much I want to take that body of yours.”
“Then take me.” Y/N exhaled, mouth letting go of his thumb and smiling devilishly.
Remus’ eyes, if possible, turned darker in desire and he bent down, kissing Y/N passionately on the lips as his hands travelled down her naked torso.
“Hmm, you’re so small, kitten,” Remus hummed, eyes following his hand that went to cup in between her legs. “Look how small your little pussy is in my hand.”
His fingers curled to feel how wet it was, Y/N spreading her thighs apart for him to access easier. He used his middle and ring finger to lather up some of her slickness, then dragged them up to her clit and started soft circles on it. Y/N whimpered, legs closing from how sensitive her bud was from her previous orgasm.
“Now, now pet.” Remus tutted, pulling away.
He licked the tips of his fingers clean, then shrugged off his woolly cardigan, hanging it on the back of a nearby chair. The full moon approaching always got his body temperature hotter than usual, so he skipped wearing a cloak today, and was left in his white dress shirt and tie. He slowly rolled up his sleeves, exposing his forearms. Y/N couldn’t keep her eyes off his hands as he did so. Long, mature fingers with metal rings adorning the base of each.
“Keep your legs nice and spread f’me, alright, as I stuff you with my fingers.”
Bending forward again, he leaned one arm on the bed beside Y/N as his other hand found her clit again. The thick pads of his fingers played with her clit, rubbing the spot as Y/N bit her lip, body firing up for another orgasm.
“So cute, button.” He mused, nuzzling the top of Y/N’s head. “Look at that, your clit feels so little under my fingers, don’t you think? And your cunt, ah-“
He dipped a finger inside her, sliding right in and quickly added another one. Slowly petting the soft spongy walls of Y/N’s pussy, Y/N mewled, rutting her hips for more.
“So tight, so full just of my fingers. Tell me darling, do you like my fingers?”
“Mhhm.” Y/N nodded as Remus sped up. “Love your fingers, your hands, they’re so b-big.” She choked out, head hanging back as he fingered her.
“You like that? You fucking love how I can get you off with just m’fingers, yeah? Lord, this pussy’s so tight how will my cock even fit hmm?” Remus crooned, watching Y/N adoringly as he was knuckles deep inside her, his rings feeling cold upon her entrance.
Y/N opened her eyes, meeting Remus’ soft, scar-decorated face and turned her head to kiss him. Remus suckled on her spit-slicked lips, maintaining his fingers and bent his hand for the bone of his palm to press against her clit. Y/N gasped into the kiss, lips gaped apart as she whimpered into Remus’ mouth. Remus smiled, loving how flustered she was as she struggled to kiss him back, soaking in all her little cries and noises she made.
His fingers inside her were going so fast, relentlessly hitting her g-spot over and over that his hard palm was grinding against her clit incessantly. Faster than the first time, she came, squeezing onto his forearm.
Fingers riding out her high, they slowed and pulled out, drenched in her wetness. Y/N collapsed onto her back, chest heaving.
“Oh, baby you are so beautiful.” Remus simpered, climbing on the bed and leaning over her to kiss her everywhere; her shoulders, neck, cheeks. “You think you got another one in you, bunny? Think you can let Moony bury his cock inside you?”
“Yes, give it to me please.” Y/N grinned widely, licking her lips and pulled Remus down by his tie, locking lips with him once more. “Need you inside me.”
“Oh, puppy. I am going to ruin you.” Remus said, this time in such a low murmur that had he not been an inch close to Y/N’s face, her ears wouldn’t have registered the tone.
Y/N sat up, helping her husband rid himself of his clothes. His bare chest exposed a few thin scars, which Y/N quickly smoothed her hands and lips over, routinely giving love to them, as she knew it was the part Remus couldn’t stand of his body.
Remus freed his hard-on, which was blushed an angry shade of dark pink. The bulbous head had been leaking of precum for a while now, and he exhaled a couple ragged breaths when he stroked himself, hand twisting around his tip. Y/N had leaned over to their bedside table to open a condom, and she replaced his hand with hers, pumping his long member before sliding it on. Remus already felt himself throb, and he knew that soon he’d be even more as Y/N’s pussy felt 100 times better than her hand.
“How do you want me?” Y/N breathed, backing up to the head of the bed as Remus went on his knees.
This was more of a rhetorical question, really, as it has been like this for years, that at every moon cycle end, their favourite was for Remus to take Y/N from behind. Y/N turned onto her elbows and knees, bending forward to prop her ass up.
“That’s it, good girl.” Remus licked his lips, lining himself up and pushed his cock slowly into Y/N’s warmth.
He let out a loud hiss, face contorted in pleasure as he sank fully into her, his long, hard member stretching Y/N out to the fullest, filling her to the brim. “Merlin.” He said through gritted teeth, eyes dropping to where he disappeared into Y/N’s behind. “You always manage to stay so tight for me, darling- fuck, your pussy’s just squeezing m’cock so right, isn’t it?”
Y/N merely moaned, head dropping forward as she balanced her upper weight on her elbows, overwhelmed by feeling every single vein of Remus’ cock sliding in and out of her slowly. She clenched hard around him, causing his hips to tremor as Remus’ senses, including touch, were amplified tenfold.
He ceased momentarily, his cock just resting heavy inside Y/N’s cunt, his head deep at her g-spot. Y/N mewled, arching her back and twerked her hips, fucking herself back onto his cock. Remus growled at the sight, spanked her once, then his hands dived to grab the curve of her waist as he snapped, hips pounding into her now mercilessly.
“Oh God, fuck!” Y/N cried out with her head thrown back, as her elbows gave out from underneath her and her face sank forward into a heap of pillows. Her ass still up in the air, flesh slightly pink from Remus’ spanks delivered to it- it was a wonder how he didn’t cum from the sight of that alone as he fucked her from behind.
Remus kept up his quick rhythm, hips thrusting into her ruthlessly. They were both close, and Remus fucked into Y/N without an ounce or self-restraint left. He grunted loudly as she fell forward and her inner walls clenching down onto his member. His cock slipped in and out of her deliciously, as she had gotten so wet for him, sinful sounds echoing the room.
He bent forward, chest pressing against her back, their skin sweaty.
“‘S that feel good, darling?” Remus said, lips ghosting over Y/N’s ear. She shuddered, his breath sending shivers up her neck as she felt him so close. His voice wasn’t his usual chesty, tenor honey-like. His words were uttered in a guttural one, his voice deeper, lower, sounding from the back of his throat. “You’re taking me so well- your pussy feels like heaven, sweetheart.”
Y/N’s ears registered the praise as music, living for it. He adjusted his hips slightly to accommodate the new angle, thrusting to make sure he was hitting all the spots in Y/N he knew she liked.
“Mphhhm, please baby,” Y/N moaned, voice slightly muffled into the pillow. She turned her head to the side to rest her cheek on it instead. “Please Remus, oh-“ her voice whimpered, a little more clearly now.
Remus’ large hands had been gripping onto the flesh of Y/N’s hips roughly, tightly. He moved one up to her breasts, grabbing it and massaging it. His breath was hot on her back. He was nearing his orgasm too, his breathing loud and shaggy. Heaving grunts echoed off the walls of the rooms, and Y/N arched her back to feel his chest rise up and down against it.
“Good girl, good fucking girl- taking my cock so well. Shit.”
Remus let out a growl as he felt his cock be swallowed up in her cunt, her ribbed walls enveloping it so nicely as he ploughed into her.
“You’re close aren’t you, dove?” He murmured into her neck with the same low voice, placing wet kisses onto it. Her hair was out of the way onto the other side, and he tasted the slight stickiness of how sweaty their night’s activities had gotten her.
“Yes, yes, ye-es” Y/N chanted in a strangled voice, her words getting split at her throat from Remus’ vigorous pounding.
“Can tell from how tightly you’re squeezing me- shit, not going to last long either inside you like this. C’mon baby, c’mon. Cum for me.”
It was all too much. Y/N shaked as she felt Remus pump into her a few more crucial times. He felt so thick in her walls, his girth filling her up like no other. Moaning, her hips grinded back into Remus as she started to cum. She felt his warm hand reach down her belly and down to between her thighs and with the added pressure from the circles he rubbed on her clit, she came with a shudder. Her body shook as her breath caught in her throat, a string of profanities leaving her lips. Y/N’s sounds of pleasure filled Remus’ ears, driving him further into ecstasy.
“Good girl.” Remus purred, hips jerking forward frantically.
“Remus, fill me up-“ Y/N moaned, knowing Remus loved hearing his name fall off her tongue like that. She propped herself back onto her elbow, reaching one hand behind her to hold the back of Remus’ neck.
Remus pressed the side of his face into Y/N’s neck, her hand keeping him close to her. He growled into her ear, the low sound vibrating from his throat enough to make Y/N’s eyes roll back. Driving his cock into her, desperately chasing his high, he rutted his cock into her walls. His entire body strained as all his muscles worked to relieve himself, needily fucking out his animalistic urges. He came with a gasp, his hips jerked harshly as he shot ropes and ropes of cum into the condom.
Panting, he hunched forward as his cock kept twitching.
His whole muscular body trembled as he squeezed his eyes shut in the pleasure of his long-needed release. His hand was grasped onto Y/N’s chest and she loved the feeling, tilting her hips forward to match the movements of Remus’ orgasm.
Wheezing slightly, Remus finally pulled out of her slowly, Y/N whimpering slightly as her pussy clenched around nothing. He threw the used condom and collapsed onto his back, chest still heaving. Y/N followed suit beside him, onto her stomach, body limp. The afterwaves of her orgasm still sent pleasure through her body and she knew she’d feel too sore to even straighten her legs.
“My love.” Remus turned on his side.
“I can’t fucking move.” Y/N chuckled, voice muffled by the pillow.
Remus hummed, eyes raking over her used body and sat up, massaging over her shoulders then down her back. His hands reached her hips, where he caressed extra soothingly and slowly closed them together. He bent forward, planting a kiss on Y/N’s cheek. She giggled as his locks of hair tickled her eyelid.
Languidly turning over, Y/N sighed in content.
Remus reached his hand, and pulled a strand of her hair out of her face, tucking it behind his ear. He felt warmth lower, as his body began to awaken for another round.
“We’re not getting much sleep tonight, huh?” Y/N giggled peering down at her husband.
It was a blessing that the Castle automatically out a Silencing charm on teachers’ living quarters, because anyone neighbouring them would have stayed up, hearing sinful, wet slapping sounds of skin all night.
Okay. Wait. No. I just saw your big long post about Prinxiety headcanons and. Pls. Gimme more. I beg. Humbly. I plead. I need more. They were so good omg. I love prinxiety and they deserve the worlddddddd
Very well, dear anon! I shall bestow upon you another Prinxiety Headcanon, definitely only because you asked and not at all because I’m am still an obsessed piece of trash!
(Roman is a bit “unsympathetic” at the beginning towards Virgil, but that’s because Virgil hadn’t yet been accepted and because he’s really upset in the moment. He doesn’t hurt Virgil, only yells at him a bit, and he’s kind to Virgil from then on, but if that makes you uncomfortable or upset then that’s totally fine! Take care of yourself ^.^)
Before Virgil was accepted, Roman didn’t allow him near the Imagination. It was something precious and sacred and beautiful, Roman’s sanctuary that was literally a piece of himself, and the last thing he wanted was for Anxiety to come and ruin it.
He wasn’t totally unsupported in his claims. There had been an incident when they were younger, when Virgil’s curiosity had gotten the better of him. He had heard tales of the Imagination from Remus, wondrous stories that seemed positively magical even with Remus’ disturbing twist on it. And if Remus’ part of the Imagination was that wonderful, then he couldn’t even imagine (ha) what Roman’s would be like.
Even Roman’s threats, which would normally be enough to make the Anxious Side back down, weren’t enough to prevent Virgil from creeping into Roman’s room when the Creative Side wasn’t there, climbing into the closet and emerging in a sunlit field covered in flowers.
For a few hours, it was pure bliss that melted away Virgil’s anxiety until he felt calmer than he had in ages. It was the sweet perfume of millions of flowers carried by a refreshing breeze. It was colorful birds soaring in an almost crystal clear blue sky, punctuated only by clouds that literally seemed to be taking upon numerous, clearly-distinct shapes. It was a tranquil village, bustling and peaceful, the townsfolk thankfully paying Virgil no mind as he wandered, a quiet voice in the back of his head pondering why there would be a village in the middle of this field.
It's too out of place, the voice insisted, as if the village were purposefully placed there for a reason. Virgil ignored the voice, not wanting the horrible thoughts to interfere with his exploring. After all, he was in the Imagination, a place where adventure thrived and nightmares perished. He would be fine.
He would not be fine.
You should have known better, Virgil’s thoughts chided at him as he ran for his life. And really, he should have. After all, what purpose did tranquil, peaceful villages serve except to get attacked? It was an easy excuse to create conflict, which the hero would then swoop in and resolve with a polished sword and a dashing smile.
Well, Virgil certainly was no hero, and he knew that he stood no chance against the fire-breathing dragon who set the town ablaze.
Funnily enough, that isn’t when things started to go horribly wrong. Houses and property were destroyed, sure, but none of the actual villagers were getting hurt, their voices and screams mixing and spilling onto the streets. And of course they wouldn’t. This was one of Roman’s stories, and in his stories there were only ‘Happily Ever After’s. The deaths of innocent villagers would put a more melancholy feel to the ending, and Roman didn’t do melancholy.
But fear is not a logical thing. Virgil was not thinking of the nuances of Roman’s story-telling as he was being crushed by the stampeding crowd, another layer of panic settling in.
He could only think of how he was going to die, of how they were going to die. He couldn’t protect them all. He couldn’t even protect himself.
He was too busy panicking to notice the dragon’s bright-red scales losing their color and darkening considerably, his hands covering his ears to block out the screams that took on a more agonized note. He didn’t see the shadows dripping from his form, his own screams coming out mangled and echoed.
Suddenly, people were dying, because at that moment, that was his worst fear.
He didn’t know how long he stood there, or when he sank to the ground as he lost the support of his legs. But eventually the screams were interrupted by the sounds of battle, of a dragon’s death-rattle and a triumphant cheer that spread throughout the crowd like a wave. No one paid him any mind, despite the fact that he had practically killed their loved ones.
Roman, when he found him, certainly paid him mind. And he was pissed.
Virgil wanted to immediately sink out when Roman started yelling, but he didn’t. He took all of it, winced as Roman screamed about him tainting the Imagination and ruining the story. He tried to argue back, to say that he didn’t mean any harm, but everything Roman was saying was true. Whether he intended to or not, his own fear had changed the story, turning a dream into a nightmare.
When Roman had finally kicked him out of the Imagination, he vowed to never return.
Many years later, even after he revealed his name, Virgil still never returned to the Imagination. He and Roman were no longer enemies, and sometimes, when his thoughts were a bit quieter, Virgil would venture to say that they were friends. But that only increased his fears, because even if he wasn’t necessarily a “bad guy” anymore, he still had the same power. He could taint Roman’s wonderful stories with his fear, and that was the last thing he wanted to do.
But now, Roman’s nicknames were spoken too softly to be insults and his eyes would sparkle with fondness instead of hatred. They would stumble from awkward conversations at the dinner table to frequenting each other’s rooms to watch Disney movies or paint each other’s nails. And really, friend really was the only word Virgil could place on Roman, despite his anxiety saying that he didn’t deserve things like friends. It surprised Virgil how easy it was, slipping from rivalry to friendship, but Roman put his heart into it like he did everything, and Virgil could do nothing but the same.
(Virgil would realize much later on, when Roman was a sobbing, apologetic mess at his door, that Roman was trying to atone, to make up for every bit of hurt he had inflicted upon him. That Roman hated himself for making Virgil think he was anything other than wonderful, and that Roman felt like he didn’t deserve Virgil’s forgiveness or friendship. But Virgil would forgive him, and he would be his friend, and he would stay with Roman and hug him tightly until the tears stopped. Their bond would grow.)
And still, Virgil did not go into the Imagination. His new friendship with Roman (as well as the slowly-developing feelings that he was too cowardly to acknowledge) gave him a new reason not to visit. The logical part of him reasoned that Roman would never yell at him like that again, despite the fact that it was justified, but the anxious, more insistent side of him argued that, if Virgil ruined another one of Roman’s precious stories, he would be so mad that he wouldn’t want to be Virgil’s friend anymore. And while Virgil hated to admit it, he had gotten way too attached. Roman’s friendship was something Virgil never wanted to lose. It was a miracle that Roman was his friend in the first place, so Virgil was determined to not give him another reason to leave.
And yet, when Roman first asked Virgil to accompany him on an adventure in the Imagination, Virgil agreed. Because he knew, deep down, that he could never refuse Roman anything, even if that thing would destroy their friendship. Even if Virgil’s heartrate skyrocketed as soon as he saw that familiar closet door, light filtering through the cracks in the door and shimmering with pure, creative magic.
And indeed, playing out exactly like every single nightmare Virgil ever had about coming back, things went wrong almost immediately.
The monsters Roman summoned to defeat, usually low-level foes that could be taken down with ease, suddenly seemed much bigger and meaner, a true threat magnified by Virgil’s fear. Flowers wilted and vines grew thorns, and trees huddled together until they completely blocked out the sun. The chirping of birds faded away, leaving only an oppressive silence and glowing eyes that followed them wherever they went.
And then the dragon appeared, and Virgil couldn’t stop himself from screaming.
Virgil must have fainted, because when he woke up later he was in Roman’s room, the latter wrapping bandages around his arms. Burns, Virgil realized, from the dragon whose scales had once again turned to a corrupted black as Virgil’s fears became reality. And yet, Virgil was completely unharmed, and it didn’t take a genius to realize why.
Roman had protected him. He’d protected him from Virgil’s own twisted creation. Because Virgil’s worst fear had been Roman getting hurt, of his recklessness leading him into the hands of a clever villain or powerful monster. It had been the monstrous dragon spewing a beam of fire that Roman couldn’t avoid fast enough.
Virgil had ruined Roman’s story once again, which led to the Creative Side getting hurt.
So why wasn’t Roman mad?
The past few months had made all the difference. Instead of yelling like Virgil had expected, Roman immediately rushed to his side once he realized the Anxious Side was awake to make sure he was alright. Roman didn’t seem upset at all about how Virgil had tainted his story, instead fretting over Virgil like he had been the one injured instead.
Because Roman didn’t care about his stories nearly as much as he cared about Virgil. Not anymore.
They spend the rest of the evening talking, Virgil explaining how he’s able to influence the Imagination and how his fear can lead to him altering the story against his will. Roman listens, sympathetic and understanding, and apologizes for placing Virgil in a situation that would elevate his anxiety. They both make promises, Virgil to try to communicate better if something is scaring him and Roman to make the adventures he takes Virgil on safer and less scary.
The next time they visit the Imagination, it’s to go stargazing, no monsters or quests or anything that could put them in danger. The next, it’s a shopping trip, Roman coaxing Virgil to try on wilder and wilder outfits with him.
And then, many more journeys and adventures later, they would sit at a candlelit table in a beautifully decorated restaurant, a creation Roman had spent days perfecting. And Virgil, aside from typical first-date nerves and butterflies, didn’t feel any fear at all, because he was with the man he loved.
It had been no secret that Sirius Black had a penchant for walking on the wild side, for being braver than most in nearly everything he’s done and will do. There were times where he had been perhaps too adventurous for his own good, but that would never stop him from continuing on with his habits. There was never a dull moment so long as he was around for it, but, over the years he’s come to realize those moments aren’t complete unless one person in particular is there to share them with. You.
October 19, 1977
You stood at the base of the carpeted stairs with your arms crossed over your chest, lips parted as you tried your hardest to mull over the words just spoken to you. The offer just given to you that required an answer of approval; anything other than yes simply wouldn’t be accepted. That would be downright ridiculous.
“On a what?” You ask once you’d thought about it for a few seconds, unsure if you’d even heard him correctly and immediately hushed for your nearly too loud tone of surprise.
Sirius stood before you with a grin tugging at the corner of his mouth as he tucked his hair behind his ear, a chunk falling back in his face. His smile was far more than telling that he was up to no good at all, but you were beginning to realize that he hardly ever was. He lifted his hand and swirled the lone set of glimmering metallic keys around his finger, his smile only widening at the thought running through his mind.
“A drive,” he said, speaking as if it were completely and utterly normal to be taking his best friends’ fathers car without permission. As if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
A laugh fell past his lips upon seeing your mouth open and close a few times in confusion, in contemplation, head tilted and brows furrowed as you looked up at him curiously. “You are planning on taking Mr. Potter’s beloved car?”
He nods, “yes, Y/n/n, that’s the one.”
“And you’re planning on dragging me along to get in the inevitable trouble you’ll be getting into once he sees it’s missing?”
“That’s the idea, yes,” he smiles.
You squint up at him and meet his gray gaze, his own stare holding something akin to mischief as he was rapidly growing more antsy and impatient by the second with your hesitancy. You turn and look over your shoulder, peering into the living room just mere paces away from where the two of you had stood in the Potter household. Mr. Potter had been reclined in his favorite chair as a miscellaneous television show had been playing, fast asleep with that morning’s paper in his lap and his glasses halfway down his nose. The setting sun had been spilling through the open blinds, casting stripes of orange on the walls as a lamp on an end table illuminated the room.
Mrs. Potter had taken her knitting elsewhere to avoid her husband’s very obvious snoring, presumably tucked away comfortably in their bedroom and would likely remain there except to wake her husband should he not be in bed by ten o’clock. James hadn’t come home yet, having been out in the town with Lily. Time never seemed to exist when he was with her, always finding himself returning home far past curfew to be teased by Sirius for being too lovestruck for his own good. Though, it was something James had readily fired back because he too was just as in love even though he’d denied it.
So, needless to say, Sirius was bored and itching to get out of the house.
You turned back to him with pursed lips, his brow raised in anticipation as he rocked back and forth from his heels to his toes.
“Why do I feel like this isn’t the first time you’ve done this?” You ask, voice just above a whisper.
“Oh, come on.” His eye roll is immediate as he grabs your hand, tugging you out of the door with a smile on his lips. You tried not to let your cheeks burn at the feel of his hand in yours, the hand that had yet to let go as he looked back and smiled at you. “And no, it’s not the first time.”
It was your turn to roll your eyes now as he let go of your hand in favor of opening your door with a dramatic wave of his hand to gesture towards your seat, nearly walking into the hood of the pristine car from being far too busy sending you a smile. He makes up for it as he hops over the door and into the driver’s seat with ease, flashing you a smile as he puts the keys in the ignition.
He pauses for a few seconds seemingly not of his own accord, momentarily taken by the way the setting sun glimmers on your skin and sparkles in your eyes. By the way you’re smiling at him even when he’s being a complete idiot who trips over his own two feet because he’s too busy doing exactly what he is doing in the current moment. Staring.
He often wonders how he manages to stay so collected around you, exchanging his fond feelings for charm and witty comebacks to your even wittier quips. But clearly, so clearly his attempts to appear so collected were rapidly crumbling around him with each passing second he spends staring at you. Though even so, he finds he doesn’t have it in him to cut it out.
“Well, are we going to drive or wait for Mr. Potter to catch us?” You tease, pinching his chin gently in your hand to further your taunting. “If you take a picture it just might last longer.”
He rolls his eyes and puts the car in gear, setting off down the road. You pretend your stomach isn’t a mess of butterflies at the way he’d been gazing, you try to keep your mind from playing into the flurry of possibilities of what it might mean. But absolutely nothing could stop the way your cheeks burned as a result, but the wind in your hair was easy to focus on, the wind pressing on your palms as you stuck your hands above you.
Sirius let out a holler as he sped off down the countryside, the breeze sifting through his hair as your brief moment of shared smiles only added to the exhilaration you felt having taken the car without permission. As he turned the radio up to an ever familiar classic rock song.
Yeah, it was totally worth it.
March 7, 1978
The common room was filled with giddy gryffindors and colored team flags that night, half of them still cheery over the outstanding victory of the quidditch team earlier that evening. Still dressed in their jerseys, their faces still painted red and yellow. The other half were having just as much fun as an endless amount of laughter filters through the room and bounces off its stone walls.
James, of course, had been amongst the happiest—it was his team that had won after all. And Lily had fallen close behind him, her fond gaze set on her lover as much as she would beg to differ. Remus was just happy to be there in the moment with his best friends, his smile near constant much like everyone else in the room.
Everything was a haze of gryffindor colors; red pillows scattered on the floor from those who’d stood on the couches, ruffled tapestries along the walls. The latest hits from Queen and ABBA had been playing on repeat as everyone in the room had been having the night of their lives in the name of victory, good natured fun filling boisterously in the cozy space. It was a good night really, but everyone you’d hoped to be there wasn’t in attendance, the one person you found yourself wanting to see most wasn’t there.
Sirius.
He’d disappeared shortly after the match, one he’d sat through with merely half as much enthusiasm as he’d usually had in support of one of his best friends. Of course he’d made it a priority to congratulate him on his winning, he always had and he always will, but you were quick to realize even amongst the bustling crowd of cheerful teens that he hadn’t made it back to the common room with the rest of the group.
It was entirely too easy to tell when he wasn’t around, it always was. Things had lacked a certain light, a certain energy only his charisma could bring forth in anywhere he’d gone. It wasn’t far off to say that he’d been important to your tight knit group of friends; he was chaotic, he was rebellious, he was Sirius.
You had barely gone ten minutes in that party before you found yourself slipping from the common room in search of your best friend. You knew just where to find him as you navigated the dimly moonlit corridors with purpose in your stride, the music still ringing in your ears despite your otherwise quiet surroundings. He was rather predictable to the select few who knew him almost better than he knew himself, but you still held hope in your heart that he’d be just where you’d felt he’d run off to as you climbed the spiral staircase.
You were right.
A soft smile tugged at the corner of your mouth when your gaze fell upon the raven haired boy, his dimpled chin in his palm as he sat alone. His gaze was set on the stars above, glimmering bright and high in the sky in the perfect view given from the astronomy tower. You sighed softly at the sight of him before you, shoulders slumping a bit as you approach him.
“The party is downstairs, you know,” you spoke lightheartedly, moving to sit down with him and nudging him with your elbow when you did so. “It happens to be one of our last here.”
“I’m not really in the partying mood, Y/n/n,” he grumbles with a soft huff, his gaze focused ahead of him and his jaw clenching. Though he finds himself nudging you knee with his moments later in hopes that it’d soften the accidental harshness of his tone. He hadn’t meant to sound so irritated, especially not with you.
You sigh softly, your eyes dropping to where he’d been continuously picking at a hole in the knee of his jeans before lifting to him once more. You were certain you knew just what was plaguing his mind for the entirety of the day, at least that long and possibly more. It wasn’t uncommon for him to linger on the past and rightfully so, but you decided against speaking further on the subject as a smile pulls at the corners of your mouth.
“Are you ever?” You jest, making light of the brooding expression on his face.
He finally looks at you then, his eyes narrowed in a gray stare at your words as he tries his very hardest to stifle his smile. “Have you come to bother me, Y/n?”
You shoved at his shoulder lightly as your mouth fell agape in only half surprise at his words, laughter leaving your lips nonetheless as you squinted up at him. “Sirius Orion Black, I wholeheartedly believe it is my job to bother you.”
He rolls his eyes then, a scoff sounding and soon to be followed by the laugh leaving his lips as he shook his head. “Well I’m wholeheartedly convinced that you’re doing a wonderful job.”
His quip is as lighthearted as your own as you share a look of scrunched noses and faux frowns, ones that fade into soft smiles as you bring yourself to look away before your cheeks burn redder than the crimson shirt you’d been wearing. Unbeknownst to you, and something that he doesn’t plan to shed any light on, he was grateful for the lack of proper lighting otherwise you just might see the matching shade of red on his face. Something only ever achievable by you even if you hadn’t known it.
Your mingled laughter had quieted as you sat with him, and you couldn’t help but to steal another glance in his direction. His lingering smile was evident even as strands of black hair splayed across his cheek from where they’d once been tucked behind his ear. One that just minutes before was far from making its appearance when he’d sat there by himself and drowned in the gravity of his past leading up to this point.
His closest friends had never failed to bring out the absolute best in him, something he found himself immensely grateful to have. To be able to be loyal to people he knows will always want what is best for him. But as he sits there, no longer alone as he had been in that tower for a short while, he’s with the one person he had hoped would come looking for him. The one person always stuck on his mind and he knows you always will be.
You found it in yourself to look away from your best friend just a little too late as you bit the inside of your cheek, having known he’d caught your stare but too prideful to check and make sure he really had. Instead, you drop your head to rest on his shoulder and grab his hand with a squeeze, the softest of reminders that you were there. It was an action that made his heart flutter and race all the same.
“Eager to hold my hand, Y/n?” He teases, his charm making its reappearance.
You lift your head and release his hand with a poorly attempted glare, holding his gaze only briefly before you fell back into your previous position. “You really do make it terribly hard to tolerate, do you know that, Sirius?”
His smile widens as your words, his laughter sounding once more.
“Well, I wholeheartedly believe it is my job to do so,” he states, repeating your earlier choice of words as he rests his head atop yours.
“And I’m wholeheartedly convinced you’re doing a wonderful job.”
He nudges your foot with his converse in response, cheek still pressed to the top of your head as he laughs when you do the same. You really were something else entirely and he knew that, you were witty and fierce and entirely too extraordinary for him to begin to fathom. He’s quiet for a moment as he thinks things over, as he enjoys your company and the way you chose to leave the fun of the party in favor of finding him. Yeah, he still can never believe it. He’s quiet for a few more moments as he mulls over his next words.
“I didn’t say you had to let go of my hand,” he mumbles, tossing it out as a suggestion he hopes you understood the point of.
He didn’t have to wonder too long as your hand soon slips in his once more, thumbs crossing over and fingertips curling over the backs of your clasped hands. A softer smile is shared but unseen, and he’s quickly reminded that a moment like this is much better than being by himself, than being at a celebratory party.
June 19, 1979
The lake. It was a meeting spot to rival all others the very moment your group of friends had first laid eyes on it. The discovery was entirely accidental, something stumbled upon in an attempt to find the absolute perfect spot to camp. In fact, it was so perfect that James had tied one of his old shirts around a tree branch for future visits, to unofficially claim it as your own. It was absolutely incredible and seemingly unknown to most anyone else which you found next to impossible—it was too amazing not to be. But, whenever the trip was made, which was more often than not, no one else had ever been there to spoil the fun.
Clusters of wildflowers and dozens upon dozens of trees lined the perimeter of the open water, each one a different height than the last but all extraordinarily beautiful in their own way. Those very trees were also perfect for tucking yourself against with your favorite book at the moment, the right amount of shade to combat the summer sun so long as you’ve got a blanket to sit on.
“Do you think they’ll ever get tired of throwing each other in the water?” Lily asks, a smile on her lips as she shakes her head.
You follow her gaze to the sight ahead of you, Sirius over James’ shoulder having had his fate set in stone as he’s thrown into the lake with an unceremonious landing. You watched as he rose to the surface, mouth agape in shock at the completely expected action as he’s quick to cast an aguamenti spell in his best friend’s direction. It wasn’t until his gaze fell upon you that you found it the right time to look away, his smile too distracting for your own good as your cheeks burned at the brief moment. One that most certainly did not go unnoticed by a very intelligent Lily Evans.
You were fairly positive that there wasn’t a single thing that could get past her, especially not the very obliviously in love friends she’s got. It wasn’t exactly hard to tell either, she’s sure that a complete stranger could even see it if they’d spent merely five minutes in the same room with the top of you. Your rosy cheeks and unbreakable smile were telling enough of that very fact, a reaction most always elicited by the dark haired goofball not far away.
“No, I don’t think they will,” you finally manage once you realize you hadn’t answered her yet. Your gaze darts to her once more and her eyes are already cast on you, her brow raised and the corner of her mouth quirked up. “What?”
She rolls her eyes, a laugh falling from her lips as she shakes her head once more. “You really are terrible at hiding your feelings, you know.”
Your mouth falls open slightly as your brows furrow, a scoff sounding as if she’d been entirely absurd. “Feelings? Don’t be ridiculous, Lily.”
“Then I suppose you’re blushing just for the fun of it, you’re smiling over absolutely nothing?” She says, getting up from her checkered blanket and walking backwards away from you.
“And where are you going?”
“Seems like someone can’t stay away from you!” She jests rushing off towards James after tossing a wink your way, leaving you to frown and scoff once more.
It wasn’t until you pulled your gaze from her that you understood what she was getting at, the very one in question making his way undoubtedly towards you. Your eyes rolled as you bit the inside of your cheek to contain your grin, your grip on your book clutching tighter as he approached you.
“You better not be looking to throw me in the lake,” you state, brow raised as you cross one ankle over the other.
“Are you going to read all day, Y/n?” He asks, snatching the sunglasses from the top of your head just to see your frown. His grin only became more teasing at the very audible huff leaving your lips at the action.
“Perhaps I just might be able to if you stop distracting me,” you quip, frowning as you watch the smile on his lips widen.
“Then I guess that’s just too bad,” he counters, fully realizing what you had just said in that moment as a smirk appears. “Wait a minute, I’m distracting?”
You shake your head and bite back your smile again as he sits the red framed sunglasses on his nose and roots around in his shoe, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter he kept tucked in there when he wasn’t wearing them much to your obvious dismay. And as if it weren’t already terribly obvious that he’d known of said feelings, his laughter before even seeing your expression was telling enough of that very fact.
“Sirius,” you start, frowning as his mischievous grey stare meets yours. “I told you not to smoke near my books. One wrong move and you’ll burn the pages.”
He’s quick to laugh as he lights it, nearly choking on the smoke as he’d done so and you laughed in response to it. “Y/n, that’s most definitely impossible and you know it. Besides, when have I ever followed the rules?”
He laid his head in your lap, his raven hair splaying across your legs and dampening the corners of your book pages and you’re absolutely convinced he’d done it on purpose. They’d warped almost in an instant and you huffed, knowing immediately that getting any form of quality reading done would be next to impossible beyond that point. Not with the smoke billowing away from you or your best friend making little effort to take your mind elsewhere.
“Those shades aren’t hiding the fact that you’re staring, you know,” you say, peering down at him over the wrinkled pages of your book.
He scoffed at your accusation, though a smile still tugged at his lips as he swiped the book from your hand and took another puff from his cigarette. “Was not,” he defends, though the way the very corners of his mouth quirk up and the softest of blushes stain his cheeks, you know you’d hit the nail on the head. He lifts the cherry red glasses and looks at you, no longer attempting to fight his smile before lowering them and letting his head fall back in your lap. “I definitely was not.”
“Yeah, whatever you say,” you sigh, grinning up at the sky as you toss your book to the side. “Whatever you say.”
September 30, 1979
The wedding of James and Lily was perhaps the most special event that was shared amongst your group of friends, the most celebratory. It had been a small one; you were quite sure there weren’t more people there than you could count in both your hands, just close friends and family.
The location was nothing short of perfect and familiar; the beloved clearing by that lake you all had treasured so fondly. The trees had begun to fade from rich greens to even richer reds and oranges, the wild flowers still in full bloom regardless of the cooling temperatures as fall began to become noticeable.
This was perhaps one of the few and rare occasions everyone had dressed up, and even then you’d have to say it was rather casual compared to most weddings you could think of. But Lily and James weren’t ones to follow the norm, though Sirius had most certainly been pushing the envelope. He’d showed up in a suit of James’, his grass stained converse not failing to make their appearance to top off the otherwise perfect outfit. Lily hadn’t been exactly thrilled at the best man’s choice in shoes, but she quickly focused her attention on more pressing matters. Marrying the love of her life.
It couldn’t have been more perfect than it was, having been surrounded by the people that mattered most to everyone. Not a dry eye was left, especially not from Sirius and Remus, even more so Sirius. He’d tried his hardest to deny the fact that he was absolutely most certainly emotional over the union of two of his best friends, having cleared his throat more often than nod to rid himself of the lump within it. But no matter how hard he’d tried to play tough, it was far more obvious that he wasn’t as he read his speech.
Now, as the sun had nearly completely set and the night had begun, it was then that you found yourself reunited with the one person you always seemed to think about. The one person that had joined James and Remus in being the life of the party. Not a dull moment would ever exist so long as they were in attendance.
“Might I have this dance with you, Y/n?” He asks, a goofy smile on his lips and his hand outstretched towards you.
You rolled your eyes at his rather disheveled appearance, his once pristine suit now looking worse for wear as he’d discarded his blazer somewhere that would probably take some searching to find. The top buttons of his dress shirt had been undone, the very collar ruffled and his sleeves rolled up and wrinkled. Not to mention it was half untucked ever since he’d gotten his start on karaoke; all else had become unimportant the moment Queen had come on.
Perhaps your most favorite part of his newfound look was the black tie that disappeared from around his neck in favor of being tied around his head. Either he had no clue it was there or he simply didn’t mind the fact that it was, and your bets were on a little bit of both. His hair was a bit of a mess as it fell over the fabric on his forehead, but one thing had remained constant the entirety of that day. His smile.
“A dance?” You repeat, unable to fight your own grin as you look from his hand to his gaze.
The corners of his mouth quirk up higher than they’d been in that moment as his eyes roll. “I’ve only been waiting the whole night.”
“Is that so?” You inquire, slipping your hand in his and you’re quick to be pulled closer. Your giddy squeal of surprise had sounded amongst the boastful chatter and cheer all around you. Not to mention the same ABBA song that’d been playing for what had to be the fifth time now as per James’ request. “I had no idea you were so eager to dance with me.”
He lifts your hand to twirl you, hands clasped and arms extending as he spins himself for the fun of it. He nearly tripped over his own two feet but if it meant he’d see you smile then it made the slight embarrassment all the more worth it to him.
“There happens to be a lot you don’t know about me,” he says, brow raised as he falls as seriously as he could muster which hadn’t been very much. “A lot.”
You paused in your tracks as his hands settled on your waist, a mild look of concern flashing across his face until he saw the expression he knew so well in yours. “That is entirely untrue and you know it. In fact, I know more about you than I ever cared to.”
His eyes roll once more at your teasing as he lifts you off your feet in a lighthearted retaliation, spinning you once and twice and even a third time as the breeze washes over you and your laughter mingles amongst everyone else’s. He finds himself staring again as he sets you back on your feet, busying himself with reciting the lyrics to Waterloo as long as it means you hadn’t noticed his admiration. You seem to be far too taken by the off key singing, though you couldn’t bring yourself to ever be annoyed.
His singing dwindled and his voice lowered after a short while, his arm remained hooked around your waist save for when he’d twirled you a few more times. You tried your hardest not to play into the fact that your heart had been racing for reasons other than the dance you’d been sharing. To not dwell on the fact that his hand was in yours and his absentminded hums of music had filled the space between you. Should another Led Zeppelin song come on, everyone will simply have to be subject to more singing. Or the fading scent of his cologne that wafted your way with every movement and every gust of wind.
A laugh fell past your lips in that moment, catching his attention immediately.
“What?” He asks, amused and curious. He knows the meaning behind that laugh and he knows surely you’ve got something on your mind.
“I thought you hated ABBA,” you jest, raising your brows. He tips his head back at your comment, his hair flopping backward briefly as a groan fell from his lips. “I’m starting to believe otherwise with the way you know just about every word to every one of their songs that’s come on.”
“Must you be so observant?” He huffs.
“How could I not be?”
He scrunches his nose and mocks your words, your laughter immediate as you return the gesture.
Things fell quiet between you after that for a while then, leaving you both to bask in the music that’d since been turned down, the conversations that since lessened the more the night continued on. Leaving Sirius to think for more than a few moments about just how many hours and minutes he’d waited to dance with you. Or how you rested your head on his chest and he hoped you hadn’t heard just how heavily his heart had been beating. If you had, he’d simply just blame it on the way he’d carried on that night. The adrenaline.
He knew in the coming days and weeks and months and years, ever since the day he met you, that you’d take up the forefront of his mind and he’s yet to be proved otherwise. You’ve made yourself be the calm to his chaos, the one he will always seek out even when he doesn’t realize it. He knows as he dances with you to a song he always swore he hated that he wouldn’t trade it for the world. Not even when you tease him for knowing every lyric. Not even when you tell him he smokes too much and he knows it to be true. Not even when you put those bloody flowers in his hair. Not even when you push his buttons and argue with him for being so foolishly reckless at times. You were just as stubborn as him and he knows he’s met his match.
He doesn’t know quite when he’s known himself to be in love with you, it’s all kind of faded and muddled together. But in the current moment as minutes collect and time passes with the laughter of his friends and newfound family, with you, he knows he’s got what he needs.
“Sirius?” You ask softly, curiously after a while, your gaze falling upon him.
“Yes?”
He finds himself tucking your hair behind your ear, the tips of his fingers tracing over your flushed cheek. He was very much aware of the heat rising in your face at the action, very aware without the need to see it in the glow of the moon. Because there’s this thing you do each and every time you’re flustered, he’s noticed, and each time you look away and smile. You smile and purse your lips and it’s become painfully obvious to him that you were always trying to fight the crimson in your cheeks.
“Have you really wanted to dance with me all night?” You finally say, your smile soft as your eyes nearly sparkled in the moonlit glow you stood under.
A soft laugh leaves his lips as he himself looked away, knowing that habit of yours he knew so very well had rubbed off on him. But he turns back to you, eyes gray and full of something you couldn’t quite put your finger on. “Yes, Y/n. It’s always you that I want to dance with.”
You try your hardest to ignore the flutter in your heart at his words, to contain the butterflies in your stomach. The way he’d looked at you, a certain sincerity in his words and a certain something in his gaze making it near impossible to think straight. The way he looked, goofy and the embodiment of utter chaos—it had you unable to look at just anything else. Though you will admit, as of late it’s always seemed to be rather hard to look anywhere else for more than a few moments so long as Sirius had been close by.
So, as you stood there half-dancing to the melody of a song you hadn’t fully been paying attention to, you find yourself focused on him. Without second thought you lift your hand, grasping the tie around his head softly to you with the fabric between your fingers. He looked absolutely ridiculous and that was for certain, ruffles of black hair dusting his shoulders as that very tie tickled over his nose with every gust of wind. His cheeks were a bit rosy from the energy he put forth that evening you presumed, unaware that a good bit of it had been caused by you.
You tuck the charcoal colored fabric behind his ear, a laugh falling from your lips and mischief dancing in your eyes that told him surely you’d had something on your mind.
“Then I believe it is my duty to tell you that you really are the worst dancer.” There it is.
He pulls you closer, his laughter puffing against your skin as your own continues giddily. “And who’s to say I wasn’t just trying to give you a chance?”
You bite the inside of your cheek to stifle another bout of giggles, you refuse to give him that satisfaction. But the closeness between the two of you had proven to be far more effective in shutting you up as his nose nudged against your own. He couldn’t bring himself to refrain from resting his forehead on yours in a matter of moments, his lashes fluttering and mingling with yours. Your heart hammered in your chest yet felt calm all the same, as if this was exactly where you were meant to be. You knew it was.
“Well,” you start, voice soft as he smiles softly, more so when you accidentally step on the toes of his grass stained converse. “Then I’d say that was awfully nice of you.”
The scrunched noses and soft laughter you share only lingers for mere fleeting moments before his lips brush over yours, featherlight and hesitant. But it was then that you lean on your toes and kiss him fully, his hand squeezing yours as his smile presses against your lips as you continue to sway together. Never mind the three friends of yours watching that very moment with the largest of grins and maybe some teary eyes from James. Never mind Lily high-fiving Remus before extending their hands to James to collect their bet money. You were kissing your best friend, the raven haired wizard that never failed to get on your nerves in the best of ways. The one that could bring life into any room he’d walked into.
“Does this mean you love me too?” He asks, eyes crinkling from his grin and laughter immediate, “Because that would really be awfully embarrassing if—”
“Yes, I love you,” you laugh against his lips to shut him up, closing the space between you once more. “I love you.”
In that moment as he kissed you, as the tips of his fingers brushed across your cheek and the light of the moon washed over you, he knew. It has been you that ignites every moment into the light that it is, the one he finds he can’t ever stop thinking of.
It’s not living if it’s not with you.
Extraordinarily ordinary morn |S.B|
Sirius Black x Reader
Warning: suggestive (very much so), character death. Slight angst, lots of cheeky fluff
Words: 1.3 k
……
“You know I love you, right?” Sirius mumbled against your bare shoulder, resting his entire body weight against you as though he was a child and not a fully grown man.
“I would love me too.” You grinned, feeling cheeky as you took a page out of his book. Maybe Sirius really was rubbing off on you.
He bit the spot he’d been kissing in retaliation. You hissed, more for the affect rather than pain.
“I guess I love you too.” You drawled, tilting your head back to capture his lips in an easy kiss.
“Oh you better.” There was a playful growl in his response. “I gave up my eternal bachelor status just for you.”
You laughed out loud at that. Truly, in your sixth year, Sirius finally denounced his crooked ways- as he so dramatically put- and devoted himself to you and even now, seven years later he liked to remind you every once in awhile. True to his word, he’d never strayed, never wavered or hesitated. He remained by your side faithfully, as you had on his.
When the world had turned against his back you had stayed. You had stayed and fought for him, helped prove his innocence and get him custody of his godson. You had even convinced a heartbroken Remus to help you and to trust Sirius. Together, you had hunted Peter and gotten your then-boyfriend-now-fiancé out of Azkaban.
Getting Harry back had been both surprisingly and unsurprisingly harder. Albus Dumbledores word was almost law, and while he believed what he was doing was best for Harry, you knew better. Lily had told you about her sisters cruelty and her hate for the wizarding world that has stemmed from jealously. You knew he’d be mistreated there and that was unacceptable, to both you and Sirius. At the end the pair of you, with Remus in tow, had met with Dumbledore in private. You had explained everything is detail, forcefully divulging parts of Lily’s life she had confided to you in confidence. You had to, and you knew she’d understand for the sake of her son. There had finally been an agreement where Harry would spend one day a year at his aunts place until he was seventeen.
The day Harry had finally been back in your arms was the day you finally took a breath of fresh air. Relief had flooded you with such intensity that you’d nearly plummeted to the ground. Sirius had cried that day, tears of joy and sorrow. He finally allowed himself to mourn the loss of two of his best friends and rejoice in being reunited with his godson and finally being whole and alive with the love of his life and his last remaining best friend. It was a bittersweet moment for everyone.
Now, two years later there was finally a semblance of peace in your life. Sirius smiled more often, laughed with a spark similar to back in your school days, Remus finally started looking for a job and you, you could finally think of your late friends with fondness, not just overwhelming pain and sadness. You couldn’t deny the major role little Harry had played in bringing back the joy in your lives. His laughter had the tendency to physically light up the room (in your eyes atleast) and every time tiny giggles would escape him as you blew gently at his face, you swore everyone breathed easier. His presence brought warmth along with it.
You loved him. You loved him like he was your own. One day you’d have to tell him about his brave and loving parents, of their sacrifice and the cause behind it. You’d have to tell him why he was famous. That day scared you, they say you’d place the world on his small tiny shoulders. That day wasn’t today though, that was enough to bring a smile onto your face.
Sirius saw it, mirroring your gesture like a ripple affect. He leaned down and kissed you again and again and again, short pecks that had you grinning wide and before laughing out loud. He could go on for hours if he wanted to but you had to get out of bed soon. Harry would be up any minute and then the day would truly begin.
“We need to get up and I need to get dressed.” You tried reasoning with him amidst breathless sighs as he completely ignored you, opting to tighten his hold on you instead. His kisses were now heading south, open mouthed and passionate against your throat, the base of your neck and the dips of your shoulders, wearing your resolve down. Letting out a defeated whimper, that had Sirius smirking against your peaking cleavage, you pulled him back up, pressing your mouth against his. You’re own desire and need slowly making you loose your remaining control. You kissed him urgently, pressing your body against him, while you all too willingly opened your mouth to his silent request. You were always like this when it came to him and his oh so addictive touch. He knew exactly how to turn you into mush with afew well phrased words or purposeful touches. Obviously today wasn’t any different, not with how you were arching up into Sirius, moaning slightly, thanks to his toe curling ministrations.
“Sirius…” you whispered, breathless, not sure if you wanted to say something or just utter his name in something akin to devotion.
“My sweet darling.” Sirius countered, just as tender, with his hands sending a trail of hot want as they moved underneath your-his-shirt. “My beautiful girl.”
“My angel.” His hands began their decent, kneading the flesh they came in contact with.
“My sweetheart.” Your chest began heaving, breaths coming out in short pants as he continued, pressing his lips against your throat.
“My good girl, my lovely girl, MY girl.” You knew he could hear your heart beating wildly against his lips, could practically feel your whimpers. You also knew just how much it turned him on. He practically derived his pleasure from yours.
“Mine!! All MINE. yes?” Oh how badly you wanted him, he was so alluring, enticing and just so so insatiable. It brought out your own primal need for the man. He was possessive, specially in bed when he let himself go, when his charm and confidence couldn’t veil his internal insecurities and self doubts. He held you closer, tighter, craving words of affirmations and love and loyalty.
“Yours Sirius.” You felt his hum of appreciation travel against your throat and spread throughout your body, particularly warming your core. “I’m all yours, heart, body and soul. I love you with everything I have.”
Sirius groaned loudly, rearing back like you’d shocked him before coming back with a renewed vigour that had your toes curling.
“I love you more.” He gasped coarsely lapping at your skin, while simultaneously trying to expose more. “I love you so much that sometimes I feel like I’m going to combust from feeling too much.”
“I know baby I know” you knew exactly what he meant, because you felt it every time you looked in his direction, this sizzling heat that warmed you up and burned you in the most beautiful ways. “I feel it too, all of it.”
“You’ll be the death of my Y/N” Sirius gave you a devilish grin, that did wonders to your sensitive body. “And I’ll die a happy man.”
You opened your mouth to reply or perhaps tell him to take you completely when that little pleasurable bubble the two of you had made burst, in the form of tiny inconsistent yet urgent raps against your bedroom door following by a small pa’foo and ange. Only one little person called you ange, short for angel, and it was your little angel himself. He had caught on Sirius calling you angel and decided to do the same. Now Sirius was Pa’foo and you were Ange.
The second knowing session with a louder call for you and Sirius and you scrambling out of your bad, and subsequently your fiancé’s hold to go to your godson. This time the groan Sirius let out was very different from the one you had heard before but you knew he was being dramatic, nothing was more important then little Harry.
Sure enough, when you threaded back into your bedroom with Harry nestled into your arms, cooing, Sirius was smiling warmly, eyes shifting between you and the precious life now playing with your hair. You kissed Harry’s unruly locks as you got back into bed, before pressing one onto Sirius’s cheek. With Harry between the two of you, using your chest as pillow and his godfathers presence as a shield, he drifted off again clutching onto a lock of your hair. Sirius patted his tiny back for awhile before falling back to slumber himself with one last peck to you.
You stayed awake alittle while longer though, staring at your boys and wondering how you got so lucky. The were yours, your beautiful boys.
seventh year was quite literally, a mess. maybe not for others, finally done school or they were super excited to travel around the world seeing things they’ve never seen before. you’re dream had consisted of constant studying, and working that barely made any time for yourself.
for the prior three years you had studied and practiced with madam pomfrey in the healers wing to eventually become a healer yourself, and it took a lot more than you thought it anticipated.
you knew as a healer, later in life you would have to deal with artefact accidents, dementor attacks, creature-induced injuries, magical bugs, potion and plant poisoning, dragon trainers with injuries, and incredulous spell damage.
with that you had to be prepared, which meant more time hitting the books and less time spending your final year at hogwarts with your best friends and your staggering boyfriend.
(hahah u see what i did there?)
james had qued in on your restless nights by gazing across at you in the great hall. the colour of emerald green becoming frequent in his life now; surprisingly to everyone else. where you were sat at the slytherin table, your eyebags already deepening by the day and your nose buried in some sort of school book.
the thought of even being like your family, made you nauseous. you didn’t want to be like your strict, immoral family, the death eaters, the murderers, and the ministry officials. who worked like machines without feelings or care.
as a slytherin born into a pureblood family those were the expectations that were almost nailed into your back like a sign said, ‘here’s the pureblood slytherin, shame her even though you don’t know her!!’
of course those were the stereotypes, ones that had been built on for centuries since salazar slytherin himself. that you of all people had to inherit. so you had to fall, and rebuild yourself entirely for even a chance. the restless nights, insomnia, caffeine and studying was your way of rebuilding.
of course that had an effect on your grades, not sleeping, not eating and barely focusing made your grades tremble a great deal to the point where professor slughorn got concerned by his best potions makers, recent poors in his class.
you were too focused on being better that you couldn’t even focus on your own well-being, that you couldn’t even see you were hurting yourself on the people around you. almost self isolating yourself from everyone entirely.
“darling?” james whispered, his body sitting across from yours at one of the mahogany tables in the library. pince set him a warning glare not to cause any mischief as she turned around.
“hmm?” you mumbled, barely acknowledging his prescence and continuing to read your defence against the dark arts textbook, something about the ‘chameleon ghoul.’
he had barely seen you all week, and when he did he saw your agonized face scrunched up in a book and your mauve dark circles that rested below your eyes clear as day.
“why don’t you take a break, dear? have a rest, you’ve been working non-stop. ve’barely seen you.” he murmured the last bit, embarrassed for feeling ‘needy.’
“can’t jamie, newts are soon i need to be prepared.” you looked up in his direction for a moment, barely catching his saddened eyes through his spectacles at your denial of his request to finally see his girlfriend.
if this were two maybe three years ago, james would not be caught dead having a conversation with a slytherin, let alone a relationship with one. the stereotypes blinding his vision for along time before he could see what was truly in-front of him.
i mean the gryffindor pride genetically ran through his veins as he was born into the etiquette pureblood-gryffindor family himself. it was almost destined for the both of you to be corporeal enemies.
but... something about your altruistic and considerate attributes subtly changed his mind. thanking merlin, and horhace slughorn for pairing the both of you in potions in fourth year. there was always something about the way you were so gentle and benevolent with him in potions class might’ve flipped a switch in his mind.
“right then... see you later?” he muttered disappointed in himself, you work so hard to prove yourself meanwhile he didn’t even have a glare in his way because he was the perfect headboy gryffindor student; with absolutely no judgements thrown his way despite his actions towards others in previous years.
“dunno, i’m studying.” you replied, your voice monotone and dull almost raspy from barely using your voice unless answering questions in class to almost being a know-it-all and pushing yourself to the tops of all your classes.
he got up from his chair, it scraping against the floor as he walked to the exit almost like a dog with its tail between his legs. he just got so mopey by your dejected less merry self. he had to do something, he had to make you understand that being a slytherin wasn’t just you.
it was a part of you sure, but ambitious just meant you strived for your goals and you were cunning which showed your amplified skill.
that didn’t mean you were— evil? being a proud reckless gryffindor was one in his heart but nobody ever thought he was malicious.
so, james fleamont potter did the only logical thing he could think of; going to his bestfriends for help. of course at first they were not over the moon glowing in delight when they found out he was dating a slytherin, especially sirius.
but that was expected, his family being his only views on how a pureblood slytherin acted only projected onto you. giving you almost a conscientious reason to work, the thought of someone james felt was his brother perceiving you as despicable only made you pursue your self judgements.
but after your book swaps with remus, you and peters athrimancy study sessions and music bonding with sirius they grew quite fond of your personality and thought that you were due with a chance with the marauders.
“moony, i need help.” he spoke desperately as remus’ face was also buried in a book, except out of his own free will.
“james needs my help? hear that sirius? prongs needs my help.” he declared proudly as the brown-haired gryffindor groaned crossing his arms.
“it’s y/n.” he mentioned, glancing in sirius’ direction before sitting on the vermillion love seat across from the fawn haired boy.
“what about her?” remus was more-so confused, what would be so wrong with you that james had to ask him for help?
“she’s suffocating herself, the books, the studying, not sleeping, not eating, nothing. i dunno what to do anymore remus, she’s so pent up on wanting people to stop looking at her like she’s heinous she’s working herself to death!” he ranted, all his anger and agitation spilling out in one fast-paced sentence that james needed to catch his breath by the end of.
“i just dunno how to make her catch a breath, take a break. what do i do?” james panted, looking at his mates for an answer.
“imperious curse?” sirius proposed, a bad proposal but his intentions were... thoughtful. “yeah let me go use an unforgivable curse on my girlfriend so she can have a study break. no thank you, next.” james sarcastically humoured him, james didn’t want to compromise your education or use an unforgivable curse on you for that matter but you looked so incredibly burnt out he didn’t know how to help you.
“body-bind curse? so she’s like.... forced to stop?” peter suggested, looking up from his transfiguration essay catching onto the conversation as he twirled his quill between his fingers.
“or, y’know something actually logical you could do is take her books. get her lavender tea or something, let her talk.” remus finally spoke, shrugging then looking at the ‘lord of the flies’ book in his hands a smirk lying on his face knowing that would he james lucky choice.
“moony, you genius! i could kiss you!” james hopped up from his seat, on his way back to the library.
“oi! i’m the only one he’s going to be kissing, prongs!” sirius yelped as james walked out of the portrait hole with a distant chortle.
on his way to the library, where you were previously seated, james made a stop to the kitchen to grab a few of your favourite snacks and some water. he dropped them back at his dormitory, but not without a mini lecture on ‘kissing moony.’ from sirius.
what a drama queen.
the castle was slowly darkening, the only light pivoting from the floating candles in the air. he saw your frozen-like figure in the same spot you were except looking over your history of magic textbook, learning about the ‘emeric the evil.’
“y/n.” he stated firmly, you almost jumped from your seat in surprise, due to your recent sleep deprivation. “merlin james, give a girl a little warning first.” you chastised before returning to your next book that was slammed together right in-front of your eyes.
“james! i was—“ you were cut off quickly by him gathering all of your books and placing them in his left arm. “what are you doing?” you questioned, looking at him with furrowed brows, to exhausted to argue with him.
“you’re not taking care of yourself, you’re not eating, you’re not sleeping, your basically a study.... that muggle thing- robot! you’re a study robot! so i’m taking care of you.” he got sidetracked as he spoke in a gentle yet firm tone.
“but i have too-“ you were cut off again by his pointer finger shushing your lips together. “no, either you sit here in silence because i’m taking your books either way or you come with me to my dorm.” james spoke, resisting to your complaints.
“fine, but you have too—“ you started off, annoyed that your study time was ruined by james incessant comments about you ‘overworking yourself.’ he though, was not having any of that. “nope.” he grabbed your hand, dragging you off to the gryffindor tower.
you gave a small tired wave to sirius, peter and remus on the way to the dormitories as they were all either on the floor or splayed across the scarlet-coloured couches. sirius following with a teasing wolf whistle and wink seeing the both of you walking up the stairs.
“don’t do anything i wouldn’t do!” he chuckled, looping his arm over remus’ shoulders.
“ha, bloody, ha, padfoot. so, so funny i’m on the floor laughing.” he teased, sarcasm lacing his words in a monotone voice almost mocking snape.
you playfully rolled your eyes before being dragged up the stairs to the boys dormitory. the only noises heard were the clacks of your shoes and the soft breathing emitting from both you and your boyfriend.
your eyes were met with candies sprawled all over his poorly made bed, one of his quidditch sweatshirts paired with your favourite joggers; the ones he probably stole from your dorm room one night; because he was keen on you just staying there with him and ‘subtly’ moving all your things into his dormitory with the rest of the boys.
you looked at him with an arched brow, a silent question of ‘why are you doing this?’ ignoring your questioning look he sprawled himself on his twin-bed, his hands clasping in his lap waiting for you to change.
you put on the clothes he layed out, feeling james’ left hand tug you onto his chest when you were done. oh his soft, pillowy chest, you almost felt tempted to fall asleep right then and there.
“darling girl, tell me what’s going on?” he softly questioned while stroking your hair with one hand, his other arm stroking your back.
“i just—“ you stuttered, feeling a wave of tears glossing over your eyes. “i feel like everything is going so, so, wrong. m’so afraid of failing, i want to be better! i don’t want to be like m’terrible family, but it all feels like so much!” you mewled into his shirt, his grasp growing a bit tighter in an effort to psychically comfort you.
“baby, you’re nothing like your family, you have to know that?” he directed your vision to his gaze, the soft marks of mascara down your dampened face only made his gaze softer.
“you work so hard on trying to be not like your family, you don’t even know how amazing you truly are. you’re so generous, you’re always willing to help someone even if you don’t like them, i know i wouldn’t have that patience!” he softly chuckled, seeing a faded grin on your lips.
you sniffed as he continued his praise, “you’re such a hard worker, and i’m truly in awe of you. you’re the one person who truly puts her best foot forward and it’s so incredibly amazing, but you’re working so hard your exhausting yourself. y/n, it’s breaking me to see you like that.” you saw small wet streaks around his eyes, not truly realizing your self destructive habits had been harming people around you; had been harming him.
“jamie, i’m— im so sorry!” feeling the wash of emotions suddenly bundled up wash all over you, your nervous system feeling overwhelmed with the emotions of sadness, guilt and anger bubble up all at once. you whimpered into his shirt, spewing out mumbled apologies that were barely coherent due to all the sobs.
“shh- shh, don’t apologize.” he articulated, shifting his hips up and grabbing a folded parchment from his back pocket.
“w—whats that?” you questioned, trying to calm down the mewls and whimpers that wanted to escape your throat.
“this, darling, is a schedule.” he pointed out, a week schedule with times on it that labeled your subjects as well as times of the day. he also dedicated certain parts of every single day with “james!!” in bright red ink.
“so those,” he pointed out, directly at all the times he wrote his name leading up to the newt dates, “are times you and me spend together, no studying, just loving. so i can remind my beautiful, smart, and amazing talented loving girlfriend how astonishing she is.” he said with a grin, proud of himself.
“you really know how to charm a girl, potter.” you may have teased, but without him you don’t know what you would’ve done. james was truly your saviour, your light, stars to your moon; if you will.
he was yours, and you were definitely his.
“... and I really don’t know if I should have continued with Divination because on the one hand, sure it’s a fascinating subject but on the other hand, Professor Hartshorn is so incredibly ridiculous, you should’ve heard her yesterday- (Y/N), are you listening to me?”
At once, you snapped out of the daze you had been in and looked at your friend who was eying you with a bemused expression.
“Still thinking about him,  are you?”
Sighing deeply, you hunched forwards and rubbed your eyes, utterly exasperated – from both, your work and mind. “Sorry, I just... I can’t get him out of my head, no matter what I do.” She smiled. “No worries, (y/n). We’ve all been through that phase. Probably everbody has that one crush they will never forget. It’s normal.”
“Normal or not, it bloody sucks,” you grumbled, leaning back in the armchair. The two of you were currently sitting in your common room, occuping an entire table with your school work. Quills, parchment and half-empty ink bottles littered the entire surface and the books you didn’t necessarily need had already been banished onto the floor where they were stacked into a dangerously lose pile. But as long as they didn’t fall into the fireplace, it didn’t bother either of you.
A huge yawn escaped your mouth and in a rather half-hearted attempt to be productive, you threw a glance at the essay you were currently working on. Once again, it was for your potions class. Like the time you had gathered all of your courage to ask out Remus Lupin but had been turned down and had felt absolutely humiliated for the remainder of the week. Even now, you still had problems looking him in the eye but as Remus was apparenly determined never to speak with you again, it did not cause you a lot of trouble.
Picking up your quill again only to twirl it in between your fingers, you wondered wether Remus was purposely avoiding you. You wouldn’t be surprised if that were he case; he had looked quite constipated when you had asked him if he wanted to go out with you.
Your stomach tightened unpleasently. If you had known of Remus’ profound aversion to go out on a date with you, you wouldn’t have approached him in the first place. You hadn’t planned for him to get into that kind of rotten situation. Maybe you should go and apologise to him. Was that something you had to do?
It had started to rain; heavy drops were whipping against the window and together with the occasional scratching of your friend’s quill made you fall into a hypnotised        state while you stared into the depths of the crackling fire.
”You’re not going to finish that this evening, are you?”
You simply shook your head, not bothering to raise your eyes.
Your friend sighed deeply and rolled up her parchment. “Shall we head to bed, then? I’m finished, anyways.” She groaned loudly as she stretched in her armchair, finally educing a small smile from you.
“Yeah, good idea. Let’s go to sleep.”
One day, you would be able to look back at this and laugh about it. Your first heartbreak was a good story to tell your grandchildren. And that, my dear, is how the first bloke I ever fell in love with rejected me, which is great, though, because if he hadn’t, I wouldn’t have married your grandfather and you would never have been born.
Sadly, however, you were far from getting grey hair and wrinkles and telling bed time stories to your children’s children, so you had to endure sitting in class behind Remus and starring at his stupid brown hair which looked so wonderfully soft that you felt the strong urge to run your fingers through it every time your gaze fell upon it.
And thus, you came to the terribly depressing conclusion that you hated your life. But – of course – you found yourself, once again, unable to despise the person that made your life such a horrible mess. Which made it an even more horrible, messier mess.
The ringing bell, which marked the end of the school day, interrupted your flow of thoughts and you quickly gathered your things together, glad for the opportunity to escape.
While walking back to your common room – you avoided the library as much as you could – you again considered approaching Remus to talk things out. You were still unsure wether or not you owed him an apology, and anyway, you didn’t want things to be awkward between the two of you.
Not that you had had many opportunities to become aware of said awkwardness – Remus was definitely avoiding you.
A sigh escaped you, one in a line of many others since that faithful day in the library, and you tried to focus on all the homework and revision you had to do for today. Going over all of your plans in your head, you turned around the corner-
-and collided straight with another person, causing all of the books in both of your hands to fall and spread onto the ground.
The clash’s force made you stumble several steps backwards, thankfully though you managed to keep your balance, arms waving around.
“Shit, sorry, mate, are you okay?” Once you’ve managed to get a stable footing, you lifted your gaze from the stone floor and looked directly into the face of Remus Lupin.
All colour drained from your cheeks.
“Oh. Hi, Remus. Didn’t see ya there.” You laughed forcefully.
Remus looked at you with a startled expression that quickly turned into one of clear uncomfort.
“Hello, (y/n),” he muttered quietly.
In a desperate attempt to chase away the heavy silence lying between the both of you, you hurriedly gathered up the school books that were scattered around on the stone floor.  The two of you stood there in awkward silence, clutching your books to your chests. He was expertedly avoiding your eyes while you were desperately trying to find the right words to say.
Surprisingly though, it was Remus who first raised his voice,
“Listen, (y/n), I need to go, so...”
“Remus-”
“I forgot something in the library-” He tried to quickly walk past you but you seized his arm to hold him back. The look he gave you, however, was one of slight surprise and discomfort.
“I’m sorry,” you said, unable to hide the sorrow in your eyes. “Listen, I never...” You interrupted yourself, an uneasy feeling spreading throughout your stomach. “When I asked you out, I never intended on making you feel uncomfortable. I just ... I just wanted to know if I stood a chance. You really don’t have to feel guilty for anything – and I’m sorry for having put you in this situation.” You licked your lips nervously and let go of his sleeve. “That’s it. I just wanted to apologise. Sorry for bothering you.”
Remus did not say anything in your defense. Nor did he say anything to blame you. He did, in fact, not say anything at all. He simply stared at you, his brown eyes almost burning a hole into your skull. As you looked into his piercing eyes, finding yourself unable to turn you gaze away from them, your heart forgot how to beat.
“Remus?” It was no more than a breath, barely even a whisper, but it was enough to snap him out of his daze. He blinked a few times, then took a hasty step back and cleared his throat. You took a shaky breath – you hadn’t even realised you were holding it.
“I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you,” he said hoarsely, looking at the stone floor instead of meeting your eyes. “Believe me, that wasn’t my intention.”
Your face softened. “I know you didn’t want to hurt me, Remus,” you whispered. “I’m not mad at you, if that’s what you’re worried about.”
He lifted his head slightly but then changed his mind and continued to stare at the ground. “Me turning you down... That had nothing to do with you.”
You took a step back and furrowed your eyebrows. “What do you mean? Of course it had something to do with me.”
Remus pressed his lips into a thin line and shook his head. “No, (y/n), it didn’t. Please believe me.”
You opened your mouth to speak but no words came out of it. Remus sighed.
“(Y/N), I would have rejected any girl that had been in your place.”
Frowning, you attempted to speak – then you understood. “Oh! Merlin, I am so sorry – I didn’t know you fancy boys. Nobody told me.”
Abruptly, Remus lifted his head and gave you a startled look. “Wha- No, (y/n), I’m not gay.”
“Remus, that really isn’t something you have to be ashamed of, no matter what anybody says-”
“I am not gay!”
You paused. “Alright... Then what is the problem?”
Remus attempted to say something but then changed his mind and pressed his lips together. He looked like he regretted ever bumping into you.
As you examined his face and the tense expression upon it, you sighed in defeat. “You know what, forget it. I’m sorry, that’s none of my business. I just wanted you to know that I’m sorry for what happened back in the library.” A forced smile appeared on your face as you turned to leave. You felt Remus’ burning eyes on you until you had reached the end of the corridor, leaving you more confused than ever before.
Pairing: Remus Lupin x Reader
Summary: The reader is trapped in a loveless and neglectful arranged marriage. She hires her old school crush, Remus Lupin, to tutor her son
Warnings: Alcohol, mentions of abuse, the reader is a mother, cheating, angst
Word Count: 4.9k
A/n: i am actually so so proud of this so um i hope you like it
Your life was nothing but a monotonous cycle of sameness, every day identical to the one before. Every day you awoke to a cold and empty bed, your silk sheets barren of who should be a loving husband. And every day you sat by your bay window with a cup of tea, leaving it unsipped until it became cold. You watched your son stumble around the manor, his tiny legs still clumsy like a newborn foal. You painted or read to bide your time, hoping to make the long hours go faster, but they never did. Nearly six years of this routine but no part of you longed to break free from it.
You had been bred for this life since you had sprung into existence. You came from a prominent pureblood family and you were taught your place early on. You were to be silent and polite and you must not speak unless spoken to. It didn’t matter your intelligence or wit, you were nothing but a commodity with good posture and acceptable table manners. You were a pawn in your father’s chess game, something to be used for business deals and backdoor dealings. Your existence was for the purpose of your father’s advancement in pureblood society and nothing more.
For a while you had wanted more, to be free and to have agency and choice. Back when you were in school you were exposed to ideas beyond blood supremacy and submission. You let yourself dream of a life away from your family and their ideals, where you could have your own free thought and you could love whom you chose, but the fantasy didn’t last much longer than your third year.
When you had dared to voice your opinions one day during the summer holiday you were swiftly met with the back of your father’s hand. Your life quickly began to consist of long sleeve jumpers to conceal bruises and nights where your supper was withheld. You quickly resigned to the life you had always been told you’d have.
You thought about running away and starting a new life away from the toxicity that oozed from the windows of your childhood home. But you were often reminded of what happened to daughters who disobeyed; you’d be subjected to a life of destitution.
So you did as you were told, obliging to the word of your father and keeping your head down. Of course, you still held your own ideas close to your heart; you didn’t believe in the sickening rhetoric that was blood supremacy, but you couldn’t tell anyone that for the sake of your safety.
You were seventeen when you had gotten betrothed to Humphrey. It was your seventh year at Hogwarts and you had gotten a letter in mid-march informing you of your own engagement. He was your father’s business partner and eleven years your senior. He was cold and serious. Something about the way he had a perpetually raised brow and a scowl made your stomach drop. You had cried yourself to sleep that night, any remnants of your fantasy finally shattering in the clutches of your fiance.
And now here you sat, six years later, your cup of tea cooling in your hands as your son asked questions you didn’t know the answer to. Every young wizard went through this phase, wondering why the lights would flicker when they were angry or why sometimes they could do things that they didn’t understand. Your son knew that he was a wizard, but his young mind couldn’t quite grasp what that meant. When you were his age, you had a governess who explained these things to you as well as taught you other things like basic arithmetic and history. You desperately wished that you could find someone, maybe a tutor, who could teach your son.
Your child, Montgomery, was inquisitive and wild. He was named after his great uncle but detested the name, preferring to be playfully called Monty instead. He was born to be the picture of a perfect pureblood son, but he was wild and untamed no matter how hard you tried. You were afraid of how his father would treat him as he grew, and you were desperate to temper him.
That night at dinner you sat at the head of the table, Monty next to you, and your husband at the other end. It often felt as if there was an impossible distance between the two of you, a distance that could never be crossed. You rarely truly felt like his wife, usually only feeling like an employee in your own home. You poked at your meal for a while, chiding your son to eat his vegetables. In the darkness that shrouded your home, Monty was your only source of light. If you were to go on like this it would be for him. You took a deep breath, preparing yourself to raise the question.
“Would it be alright if we hired a tutor for Monty?” you asked, “I had one when I was his age and I just think that it would be the proper thing to do.” Humphrey sighed and placed down his spoon, it clanking harshly against the rim of his bowl.
“Montgomery,” he corrected harshly. You swallowed thickly and nodded, avoiding his gaze. “And I suppose it would be a good idea,” he said, “We want him to be top of his class when he arrives at Hogwarts.” You nodded quickly, knowing that agreeing with him was the fastest way to get what you wanted. Humphrey thought for a moment before resuming his dinner.
“You can pick out his tutor, just inform me when his lessons have started,” he said before going back to ignoring your presence. A sense of pride filled you at his words; it was rare you ever had a say in any of the decisions made around the house and the prospect of having a voice sent a shock of happiness down your spine. This single act of agency was not real freedom, but you would revel in pretending that it was.
You sifted through ads in the Prophet and inquired with other mothers. You were hesitant to call them your friends as they held the same ideals as your husband, but they were the women you’d be forced to have tea with during business meetings. None of the names that came up seemed quite right. As a last resort, you sent an owl to your old professor, Professor McGonagall. She had been your favorite teacher back at school and you still kept in touch occasionally. When you were a teenager McGonagall tried relentlessly to help you see your potential, but you just brushed her off, knowing that you’d never be allowed to have a career once you were married.
McGonagall’s response was swift, an owl knocking on the library window only a few hours later.
The letter opened with her usual greeting, her insistence that you call her Minerva and not Professor. She offered up a name that made you pause.
Remus Lupin. You could understand why she would suggest this name. He had been top of your class in school and a prefect. He had even tutored you once and had proven himself to be quite the teacher. You knew he was more than capable but his name still caused you to pause.
You had been absolutely infatuated with Remus when you were an awkward sixteen year old. He was handsome and smart and he was nothing short of gentle when he spent late nights in the library trying to teach you astronomy. Something about his hazel eyes and boyish smile had made your heart pound in your ears and your palms sweaty. But you never let yourself dwell on your feelings too much; you knew you’d be married shortly after you graduated and your father would not take too kindly to you dating anyone, especially a halfblood. So you had pushed the feelings aside and forced yourself to forget. Yet here you were, years later, and the shape of his name still caused butterflies to erupt in your stomach.
You wanted so desperately to write back to Minerva and ask for his address, to send him a letter requesting his services, and to let him into your home. But you were afraid of what would happen if you did. You had spent so long trying to push away the stirrings in the back of your mind and ignore any inkling of restlessness. You feared that welcoming this man into your house would only ignite these feelings to a point where you couldn’t avoid them anymore.
But still, Monty needed a tutor and you knew that Remus Lupin was a damn good one. You sent an owl to Minerva asking how to contact him.
The first day the Remus was meant to come to your house you were a ball of nerves. Monty was excited, yearning to learn and to meet this new person. But you were anxious about seeing him after all these years. You couldn’t be sure that he even remembered you. His time tutoring you had been brief, though you held that short time together close to your heart.
You found yourself putting on your favorite clothes, feeling desperate to put up a good front, hoping the clothes would mask your unhappiness. The cream shirt and long navy shirt helped you play the role of a doting wife well, just old fashioned enough to make most believe that you agreed with this life. You tied back your hair with a silk ribbon before heading down to the front hall. You had nothing better to do than wait for him.
A heavy knock finally filled the empty halls of your home signaling you to his arrival. You called out for Monty before you walked to the door and opened it gently.
You shyly looked around the edge of the door, meeting his eyes. It took everything in you to suppress some sort of physical reaction as you took in his appearance. The years had surely treated him well. His hair was longer now, curlier too, and his freckled skin adorned a few new scars. It was snowing lightly outside and snowflakes sat in his bronze curls. But his hazel eyes still shone at you warmly, and his small smile was familiar and dimpled. He looked older of course, slightly taller and with broader shoulders. He was wearing a beige shirt and a dark tie, a satchel slung over his shoulder, and a stack of books under his arm.
You opened the door wider to allow him inside. “Hello, Mr. Lupin, I’m so glad you could make it,” you said softly, sticking out your hand. He quirked up an eyebrow and adjusted the books before reaching out his hand. His hands were cold and calloused as he placed his hand in yours, the contact sending a wave of warmth through your body.
“You can call me Remus,” he said with an amused smile, “No need for the formality, it’s not like we haven’t met before.” You laughed softly at his comment, reluctantly pulling your hand away.
“Of course, I wasn’t sure if you remembered,” you admitted, “May I take your coat?” Remus chuckled before shrugging off his jacket and handing it to you.
“How could I forget, charms was it?” he asked. You flushed at his comment but hid it by turning to place his coat in the closet on your right.
“Astronomy,” you corrected. He hummed affirmatively before rocking back and forth on his heels. You composed yourself quickly before you turned back to him. “Let me show you the library,” you said finally.
The two of you walked down the hall in silence as you made your way to the room you spent most of your time in. You heard him gasp as you pushed open the mahogany doors. The room was magnificent; books lining every wall from floor to ceiling. Your precious bay window let in natural light and the plush carpet muddled your steps as you walked in. There was a table by the window which you had designated for Remus’s lessons. You had placed some books, quills and parchment, and a globe on the surface.
Remus’s mouth was wide as he took in the room. You shuffled awkwardly towards the table and his eyes finally landed on it.
“I wasn’t sure what you needed so I just found a few things,” you said, gesturing to the makeshift desk. He gave you that lopsided smile again and your stomach erupted with butterflies.
“It’s perfect, thank you,” he said. You felt yourself smile widely as you wrung your hands. Since you had gotten married it was rare that you received a compliment. Even as small and insignificant as his words were, you felt the warm caress of approval anyway.
Before you could say anything else Monty tumbled into the room. His shirt was rumpled and messy, half of it untucked. His hair was wild and his cheeks were red. It was clear that he had gotten into some sort of mischief before heading to the library. He barreled towards you and hugged your legs.
“Hello dear,” you said affectionately, unable to contain the smile on your face as you smoothed down his hair.
“Mum you will not believe what I found in the garden,” he said breathily, a gleam in his eye. You raised your eyebrows at him.
“You’ll have to tell me later, Mr. Lupin is here,” you said, nodding towards the man. Monty turned towards his tutor and smiled shyly, hiding behind your legs slightly. It was rare that he met new people as he spent most of his days cooped up at home. Remus didn’t seem phased by his shyness, only stepping closer and bending down slightly.
“Hi, Montgomery is it?” he asked softly, offering his hand for Monty to shake. He shook his head furiously before putting his tiny hand in Remus’s.
“My name is Monty,” he said proudly, giving Remus a firm handshake. Remus smiled brilliantly.
“Okay Monty, you can call me Remus,” he replied. Monty slowly detached himself from your legs, heading towards the table with Remus. He smiled as he hopped up on his chair and spun the globe. You smiled as you watched them interact, Remus ever so gentle and warm.
“Do you mind if I stay?” you asked suddenly. Remus looked up with raised eyebrows. “I’ll be quiet,” you promised, “I’ll just be reading.” You gestured towards the spot where you usually read. Remus smiled and nodded. You made yourself comfortable and opened your book. But you couldn’t quite focus on the words, your attention captivated only by Remus.
That night you laid awake next to Humphrey, unable to sleep. Your mind was busy replaying every moment that Remus had been in your house. How enthusiastic he was about teaching and how tenderly he’d answer Monty’s questions. You thought of how he’d look over Monty’s head and give you a goofy smile when Monty would innocently ask a funny question and how he gave you a lingering handshake when he had left.
Watching Remus teach became how you passed your hours away. You finally indulged yourself and wondered what it would be like if he felt the same as you. You often found yourself imagining a life where you ran away together, stealing Monty away from the virulent environment of your life. You imagined that you’d move to the city, somewhere near the friends he spoke of so fondly, or away to the countryside in a small cottage. Of course, the fantasy was dashed every time he left and you were once again left in your solitude, waiting for your husband to come home and ignore you as usual. You grieved for the relationship that could never be and the life you could never have.
You felt trapped, a feeling you had been trying to suppress for years. But you were married, a binding and final contract, so there was nothing for you to do. It was as if you were a Rapunzel, waiting in her tower. Only your prince never came to save you. Instead, he was your captor and key keeper.
Your favorite part of your day soon became the stolen minutes before lessons began and the fleeting seconds after they ended. That was when you could be alone with Remus, learning more about him through menial questions in the name of small talk. He was just as sarcastic and full of wit as you remembered, though there was a certain level of softness that hadn’t been present before.
Every day, as he left you, shook hands, a task that was most likely no longer necessary, but you loved the feeling of your hand in his. Every time your palms touched you wished that he was taking your hand because he wanted to, not just as a formality.
Remus’s mere existence consumed you, leaving you yearning for every inch of his mind and soul. Your thoughts were full of his smile and his beautiful eyes. You dreamed of running your hands through his hair and resting your head on his chest. You felt yourself falling in love with him slowly and it terrified you. But there was nothing you could do to stop it. It was as if he had planted himself in your mind, the vines of his ivy covering you completely, overrunning your mind, body, and soul.
About a month into his teaching you arranged a meeting to discuss Monty’s progress. Remus had readily agreed and he appeared at your doorstep promptly. Humphrey was supposed to attend the meeting but he had been pulled away on business. Or at least that was what he told you. Often times when he was away for work he’d come home smelling of another woman.
You sat in your husband’s office, just you and Remus. The lighting was dim and your breath was quickly becoming bated because suddenly, you weren’t so sure if you had been imagining the tension between the two of you. He fidgeted in the seat across from you, staring at you with those alluring hazel eyes. They were the type of hazel right between green and brown, the perfect sweet spot that made them appear almost yellow. You looked away quickly and cleared your throat.
“So how is Monty doing?” you asked, placing your hands neatly in your lap. Remus smiled and ran a hand through his hair.
“He’s doing wonderful,” Remus said proudly, “He’s quite inquisitive. He wants to know everything about everything.” You let out a breathy laugh and nodded.
“Yes, he used to bombard me with questions before you started teaching him,” you admitted, “I couldn’t answer half of them.” Remus laughed this time and shifted in his seat, leaning slightly further over the desk.
“I’m sure you had no problem answering. I was honestly surprised when you sent me the letter, I would have assumed that you were teaching him yourself,” he said, “You were always so smart back in school.” You flushed and shook your head.
“Do you not remember how you had to save me from failing astronomy,” you answered teasingly, the banter between you flowing easily. Remus pulled back and raised an eyebrow at you.
“If I remember correctly, it never seemed like you needed much help,” he said. You felt your face heat up. In all honesty, you hadn’t needed help with astronomy. You had just wanted to be close to Remus and that was the only way you had known how.
“No, I needed the help,” you chided, “You just happened to be an excellent teacher.” Remus met your praise with that boyish smile you had fallen for. The two of you fell into easy conversation after that, forgetting your purpose for the meeting in the first place. You knew that you were entering dangerous territory but you couldn’t find it in yourself to care.
That night as he left you walked him to the door.
“Thank you for meeting with me,” you said softly, a hint of a joke behind your eyes. Remus nodded with a smile, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Of course,” he said softly, “Goodnight.” His eyes were rounded and earnest, sending the beating of your heart into overdrive. As he turned to leave you found yourself grabbing his sleeve and turning him around. You were unsure of what your intention was but suddenly he was standing so close, his eyes roaming your face and your breath mixing with his. The two of you stood like that for a moment, staring at each other. Finally, you pulled back slightly, diffusing the tension.
“Goodnight,” you whispered back, your voice slightly hoarse. Remus swallowed thickly, before nodding and leaving quickly.
The next time he came over for a session the two of you acted as if nothing happened. You hoped that this was because you were under the watchful eye of your husband and not because he didn’t return your affections. You worried the entire time that you observed the lesson, chewing at the inside of your cheek. He didn’t even spare you a glance the entire lesson.
Once he and Monty were done you walked him to the door, as usual, dread settling in your stomach. You worried that you had ruined everything. But when you reached the door and slipped your hand in his for your usual handshake, he surprised you by lifting your hand up and pressing a kiss to the back of it.
Your life soon became waiting for stolen moments with Remus. Tentatively tangling fingers in a hallway before Monty rumbled down the stairs. There was so much you learned about him, but you could tell there was something he was holding back. There was an ever-present sadness in his eyes that made your heart break. He seemed cursed, as if there was something dark lurking underneath the surface. But he never shared too much with you.
You scheduled your next meeting several weeks later and you waited for it impatiently, longing for moments alone with the man whom you loved. But unfortunately, luck was not on your side. Humphrey, who was supposed to be busy, had decided to join you. So he sat in the big chair while you stood behind him, your head down and your hands clasped behind your back.
Remus sat uncomfortably in his chair, sneaking glances at you when your husband wasn’t looking. You were aware of how submissive and deferential you must have looked. You had never wanted Remus to see you like this, to see how truly trapped you were. You were afraid he’d pull away and realize that loving you was futile as you had no way to escape the shackles of your marriage. You longed to look into those hazel eyes and pretend that everything would be alright. But instead, your husband placed a rough hand on your arm and told you that it was time for the men to talk.
You sat in the library and worried, afraid that Humphrey had somehow found out and was trying to confront Remus. But truly, what was there to find out? All there had been were lingering gazes and grazing touches of hands. You hadn’t dared to kiss him or even make it known how you felt.
But when the meeting was over you watched Humphrey give Remus a cordial handshake and thank him for his services. Remus glanced at you for a split second, but his gaze quickly moved past you as if you weren’t even there.
You feared that everything had been ruined. That he’d realize that you were too broken and too chained to be loved. But the next moment you had alone with him, he pulled you into a bone-crushing hug, the most contact the two of you had ever shared.
“He can’t treat you like that,” he murmured into your hair. You let out a shaky breath, holding back tears, and pressing a soft kiss to his shoulder.
“He’s my husband, that’s how it’s supposed to be,” you replied. Remus pulled back and cupped your face.
“No, it’s not. You deserve to be loved, not manhandled,” he said, his voice filled with a soft determination. You smiled sadly at him.
“That’s how it’s supposed to be for women like me,” you said softly. Remus leaned forward and pressed his forehead against yours.
“He’s not worthy of you,” he whispered. You closed your eyes and sighed.
“I don’t have a choice. I never did,” you murmured.
Tentatively, Remus pressed his lips against yours. The kiss started out soft, his chapped lips moving gently against yours. Your mind was spinning and your legs went weak, this moment feeling like a dream. The way his hand was in your hair, cradling your head, and the way your body was flushed against his felt like something out of a fantasy. But soon, the kiss became more heated and more desperate, Remus’s lips pressed harshly against your mouth. When he finally pulled away you were breathless and dizzy, wishing that you could grab him by the collar and pull him back down.
“You always have a choice,” he said, his voice gravelly as he whispered in your ear. And with that, he detached himself from your embrace and entered the library.
As winter slowly turned to spring you spent every waking moment thinking of Remus and how you wished you could be with him instead. Your secret meetings became more frequent, filled with desperate kisses and unspoken confessions. The words often burned at the back of your throat, begging to escape and profess your feelings. You desperately wanted to tell him that you were irrevocably in love with him and you longed to know if he felt the same. But you knew that once those words spilled from your lips you could never take them back and things could never stay the same. But suddenly, you wished that things would finally change.
You were often kept up at night with the fear that Humphrey would find out. That he’d catch a quick kiss in a darkened hallway or finally notice how Remus’s eyes lingered on you. You knew that if he found out you’d be on the receiving end of some unspeakable punishment. But you feared not only for your safety but the safety of your love as well. Humphrey was a scary man when he was angry, and you dreaded what your husband would do to Remus.
On a brisk spring night, you sat in the study with Remus, an open bottle of wine on the desk. Humphrey was away on business so you took it upon yourself to schedule another “meeting” with Remus. He now sat at the desk and you stood between his legs, a bright smile stretched across your face. You sipped from your glass, reveling in the taste. It was an expensive bottle that Humphrey had imported from France and you knew that you weren’t supposed to drink it.
Remus’s hand was settled on your hip as you talked, your faces so close that your lips almost touched as you spoke. You longed for moments like these, where you could bask in his affections unashamedly, without fearing getting caught.
He brushed a stray hand of hair from your face and you suddenly became more somber, desperately staring into his eyes, your lip trembling slightly. His eyes furrowed as he sensed your mood change.
“What’s wrong?” he asked softly.
“Take me away from this place,” you pleaded, “Please.” Remus let out a trembling breath, his expression falling into one similar to yours.
“You know that I can’t,” he whispered. You shook your head frantically, clutching the front of his shirt in your fists.
“Yes, you can,” you said, “You, me, and Monty, we can all run away together.” Remus shook his head and looked away.
”No, we can’t,” he breathed. You felt tears pool in your eyes as you tried to convince him.
“Yes, we can! Monty adores you and I-” you took a deep breath, “and I love you.” You looked at him defiantly and unflinching, never surer of any statement in your life. Remus froze and stared at you, his mouth agape.
“You don’t love me, you can’t,” he replied.
“I do Remus,” you said softly, your grip on his clothes loosening.
“You can’t. I’m poor and I’m-” he paused, seemingly trying to gather his words. “I’m ill,” he finally settled upon, “I can’t take care of you.” You cupped his cheek and shook your head.
“I don’t care about any of that,” you whispered, “And you’d take far better care of me than he does. You already do.” Remus sighed before pressing a burning kiss to your lips.
“When does Humphrey get back?” he asked as he pulled back.
“Two days,” you answered. Remus closed his eyes, mulling something over. He finally leaned over, kissing your forehead lightly before speaking.
“Go pack your bags,” he whispered. You smiled at him before turning to leave the room, ready to grab your and Monty’s essentials. But before you could leave he grabbed your sleeve, spinning you around to face him. Your faces were so close you could feel his breath fan across your face.
“I love you,” he murmured softly. You simply smiled before grabbing your bags and gently waking Monty, preparing to break out of the tower that confined you. Ready to live the life you had always wanted with the man that you loved.
A Pirate's Life for a Prince (Part 5)
Summary: Roman was a dashing Captain, content with his exciting life out at sea, diving head first into adventure both on and off land. He wouldn't give up his life for anything, and yet he found himself...lacking something. He was never sure what.
When he meets Virgil, a seemingly common traveler in an old tavern, that lacking feeling in his chest goes away for the first time in a long while. So surely there's no harm in offering the stranger and his friend a ride, right?
Notes: TW for Remus being Remus, threats of violence
thank you again to @cheshirevalentine for editing! Check out their spinoff @actorau it's going to be so cool
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 6
The throne room was quiet, the guards stationed around the golden walls silent and motionless, the air just as heavy as it had been since news of the missing Prince had made it to the King.
Janus’s eyes were on the blue skies outside glass stained windows, the guards around him staring straight ahead, backs straight, unmoving for hours.
He leaned against the back of the throne with a sigh. The golden throne was grand and elegant, but also old and uncomfortable. It was honestly more for show than for furniture, and his back always protested the hours upon hours he spent in the throne room. He was always staring at the door, waiting for the same boring pointless people to come in with their same boring pointless demands.
It had been a bit more frantic since Virgil had disappeared along with his advisor, but with over a week of no new leads, no way to track down the missing Prince, things had settled back into routine, just coupled with a rising sense of uncertainty and dread.
Janus could barely even remember the last time he’d had a proper conversation with Virgil. They saw each other in meetings, Virgil quiet and nervous, out of place in a room full of adult royals, but that was about it.
He’d stopped by to congratulate the young Prince on achieving adulthood on his 18th birthday, as well as to praise Patton for his success, but that had been almost a year ago now, and they’d barely said a word to each other since.
Janus had never bothered to get to know the boy- too many bad memories, too much responsibility on top of the crown that had been thrust upon him after the death of the Queen.
He’d been given the throne to the kingdom he was never meant to rule, expected to ignore his own grief and confusion in favor of piecing things back together. He couldn’t raise a child on top of that.
Virgil had his mother’s mismatched eyes. Janus still couldn’t bring himself to look at the Prince without a simple glance being accompanied by waves of unwanted memories.
Patton had raised him well in place of any real family, and Janus had paid him enough to support the young advisor for decades.
And now both Virgil and Patton were gone, vanished without a trace in the middle of the night, and Janus didn’t know what to do.
Virgil was the only heir, set to be King in less than a year’s time now. The boy was a wreck. Anxious, timid, unprepared, and unsociable. So Janus had managed to push back the crowning until he was twenty, rather than eighteen like originally planned.
Patton had done his best, but he and Janus both knew that boy wasn’t fit to be King. Not yet, at least. Probably not for a long while.
But there was nothing Janus could do about that. He was never meant to be King, he was simply a placeholder until the late Queen’s son came of age.
He'd been able to keep Virgil from being crowned as an unprepared teenager like Janus had been, but he couldn't keep the crown off his head forever.
But now the late Queen’s son was gone, and Janus was still on the throne, his back still protesting the long, uneventful hours.
He’d been King for nearly a decade. He’d built his kingdom, built a reputation, placed his spies, made sure he had eyes and ears on every corner. The people knew him, respected him (more out of fear than anything, he suspected). The King was always the first to hear anything.
And yet there hadn’t been a word about the missing Prince. Nobody was sure when he left, if he was still in the city, if he’d left on a ship or was just hiding right under their noses. Nobody knew if he’d left willingly or if someone had stolen him.
It had been over a week, and still nothing.
Janus was pulled from his thoughts when the double doors at the end of the hall swung open without any warning or announcement, loud heels clicking against the floor, the guards startling to attention.
“Hell of a place you got here,” the intruder called, weaving around the two guards stationed at the door, expertly avoiding their grasps. “Did you decorate in puke yellow on purpose?”
Janus leaned forward, watching with his one good eye as the man pushed his way into the throne room, grinning as he surveyed the area, avoiding the apparently incompetent guards.
Janus raised a hand, stopping the rest of his men from rushing forward, weapons raised. The day had been never ending and dull, he might as well see how this played out.
Janus kept his eye on the intruder, eyebrow raised. “And who might you be?”
“That’s not important right now,” the man said, finally spinning around to face the throne. “What is important is… holy shit. What happened to your face? It looks like it was on fire and someone tried to put it out with a fork! Like, in a good way. It works.”
He sounded almost awestruck, staring shamelessly at the marred side of Janus’s face, and for the first time in years the King felt uneasy up on his throne, tensing under the gaze.
Nobody looked at his scar. It was common courtesy to pretend it wasn’t there, an unspoken agreement among the people.
“Tell me who you are and what you want before I have you arrested.”
The man gave a dramatic, woeful sigh, crossing his arms over his chest. “You have a kid, yeah? Short, big mop of black hair, crown prince and heir to the throne of Naither?”
That piqued Janus’s interest much more than the bizarre show the nameless man seemed intent on putting on. “My nephew is the heir, and the city is aware there is a reward for his return. If you have information you should have scheduled an appointment.”
“Appointments aren’t really my thing,” he said, looking up with a bright, crooked grin, one hand moving up to brush over his mustache. “The point is, I know where your kid is.”
“Wonderful,” Janus said. “Where?”
The man merely shrugged. “That depends. How much are you paying?”
He kept his voice disinterested and bored, picking at chipped, painted nails. Well, two could play that game.
Janus leaned back in the throne and examined his gloves, black and gold rings glittering in what little sunlight managed to filter in. He saw the man’s gaze fall on the jewels, his eyes brightening hungrily. “I’m sure we could get you a handsome reward for helping to bring the Prince home. If your information is authentic.”
“Well I’m not offering information,” he said, tilting his head to look at Janus. “I’m offering to collect him myself. There are very few people you could trust with the job, you know. You can’t just pick up any rando’ off the streets.”
“I have plenty of people who are more than capable of bringing the heir back home. You’re expecting me to entrust his return to a stranger?”
The man shrugged again. “I won’t share the information with just anyone.”
“You’ll share the information if there’s a knife to your throat.”
The man actually grinned at that, brown eyes brightening dangerously. There was a scar across the left side of his face, that eye a bit glossy, parallel to Janus’s own injury. “Any fool willing to attack the ship he’s on will die. I can guarantee that. Except myself, of course!”
“Is that so?” Janus drawled. “Care to explain why?”
Remus hummed, rocking forward onto the balls of his feet, smug grin only growing. “You’ve not heard of the Calypso? She’s mighty notorious, especially about these parts. And I’d simply not let anyone near her. There’s precious cargo on that ship, you know.”
Janus had heard of the ship, but only vaguely. He tended to ignore rumors of pirates, busying himself with more important things than following those stories. Especially when such stories didn’t often involve the land he was ruling.
Well, he couldn’t exactly ignore the pirates when they were kidnapping the kingdom’s only heir, could he?
“How do I know you’re right about Virgil being aboard?”
“Why, I have written proof from the Captain, of course!” The man bounced a bit on the balls of his feet, leaning forward. “He’s been on board for… nearly two weeks now? They’ll stop in Gladena in about a day's time, and from there be off to Deigh. You can check any record you please, the first mate is absolutely meticulous about it all.”
Janus drummed his fingers along the throne, studying the intruder carefully. He should have this man arrested for daring to barge into the throne room, whether he was telling the truth or not.
He could send someone he trusted after Virgil, but… the Prince and his advisor would be on the lookout for someone they recognized. And despite himself, Janus was achingly curious. "And how long would it take you to get my heir back to me?"
“Well, considering it took the Captain two weeks to get to Gladena,” the man mused, dropping his arms to fold his hands behind his back, swaying slightly. “I could cut them off at Deigh and be back in less than two months.”
It wasn’t… ideal. The kingdom needed it’s Prince back as soon as possible, especially when he was so close to taking the throne. Janus couldn’t keep the fear and uncertainty at bay forever.
But Deigh was a decent way away. Assuming this man would actually do what he said he would, two months was the best they could hope for. It wasn’t a bad offer.
“Very well,” Janus relented with a heavy sigh. “Every day over two months you’re gone, I reduce your pay. I expect Virgil to be returned unharmed.”
“Yeah, yeah. You’re no fun.”
“And I’ll need your name,” Janus said. “I’d like to know who I’m trusting my nephew’s safe return with.”
The man brightened, toothy grin spreading across his face as he put a hand to his chest and bent forward in a mock bow.
“Remus of Lucoria. At your service, your majesty.”
Janus sighed, and some of the guards at the foot of the throne shifted anxiously, no doubt waiting for the order to attack.
As it turned out, there was one pirate Janus couldn’t ignore the rumors about. No one could, with how they seemed to spread with viscosity like no other.
“Ah,” Janus said. He wondered briefly how Remus had managed to dock without word getting to the King, making a mental note to fire his head naval officer. “Wonderful.”
“There we go.” Remus straightened, his grin never faltering. “Now you know who you’re dealing with.”
“And now I trust you to deliver Virgil safely even less.”
“Oh come off it,” Remus said, rolling his eyes. “It’s not like I’m incompetent.”
“You do have a reputation,” Janus pointed out. “And I’d like my nephew back. Not his corpse.”
“I’m ruthless, not stupid. He’ll be alive.”
“He needs to be unharmed.”
“Unharmed is… such a big request these days,” Remus said, turning back to examining his nails. “Should I kiss his booboo if he gets a splinter?”
Janus set his jaw, staring down at Remus from his vantage point up on the throne. He couldn’t remember the last time someone had talked back to him like this, especially in his own throne room. “You should deliver the Crown Prince without injuring him. He’s royalty.”
“Yes, and as am I,” Remus said. “He’s not special.”
“You’re not royalty anymore.”
Remus rolled his eyes once again, turning back to Janus with a smile. “It’s a mindset.”
“Of course it is,” Janus drawled, leaning forward in his throne. “Royalty is power. If I wanted you dead today, your head would be at my feet in seconds.”
Remus laughed then, the sound short and humorless. “I had no problem getting in here, did I? If I wanted you dead today, you would be.”
“Not if you wanted to escape with your life,” Janus said. “But you’re welcome to try.”
“I did say if, sweetheart. I’m not here for that today.”
“Good,” Janus said, keeping his voice cold and sharp. “I still need the Prince back in one piece.”
“Yeah yeah,” Remus agreed, waving him off. “I heard you.”
“Completely unharmed, Remus.”
“Yes,” Remus growled. “I heard you. I’ll kiss all his booboos.”
“Good,” the King said again. “And I trust you’re aware of the reward for Virgil’s return?”
“Oh, I am,” Remus said. “And it’s not enough. I want 3,000. To start.”
Janus scoffed, raising an eyebrow. “To start, huh?”
“I’ve got to be compensated for my time, don’t I?”
“Sure,” Janus agreed. “But I’ll remind you I do have an army at my disposal. I don’t need you for one job. You’ve given me all the information I need to send my own men.”
“The Calypso’s Captain won’t let him go so easily,” Remus said. “And much less to anyone but me. So either I go get him, or he makes it to Deigh and is never heard from again. Your choice.” He said with another infuriating shrug.
There were countless eyes on Janus, the guards watching and waiting, ready to move at the King’s word. Remus was smiling, smug and knowing, and Janus took a steadying, resigned breath.
“Fine,” Janus relented. “I’ll give you 1,500 before you depart, and 1,500 when you return with Virgil.”
“Plus the pre-existing reward.”
The King sighed. He’d pay just about anything to get Remus out of his castle. “Fine. 3,000 on top of the reward.”
Remus smiled again, giving one more fake, flashy bow before sending the King a wink Janus would have anyone else killed for.
He started towards the double doors before pausing and turning back to the King. “How ‘bout a kiss, too?”
“Get out of my throne room.”
Remus cackled, striding past the bewildered guards and pushing past the double doors, the clicking of his heels echoing against the walls. He disappeared and the doors closed behind him, leaving Janus perched on his throne in silence like nothing had even happened.
Her name is Noelle I have a dream about her She rings my bell I got gym class in half an hour
“Are you listening to me?”
Remus gives a start, he looks back at Sirius, who looks mildly offended. The boy mutters an apology that his friend is quick to brush aside.
“Why do I even try? I know exactly where you’re mind is...”
Both boys look over at Y/N.
You’re in the same year and Remus has been crushing on you for the longest time. He doesn’t even remember the first time he felt this way about someone, it’s almost like he’s always been in love with you.
You’re across the hall with Lily Evans, laughing and braiding your hair, which never fails to make Remus an utter fool.
He’s never talked to you. He’s never seen you outside the school either, so he has no idea of what you like or what your hobbies are, but he’d like to know, you’re the prettiest, coolest girl he’s ever laid his eyes on.
He wonders how soft the strands are, how would they feel wrapped around his hand while he pulls her closer and—
Oh, how she rocks In Keds and tube socks But she doesn't know who I am And she doesn't give a damn about me
“Mate!” Sirius elbows him hard. Remus comes out of his reverie and looks back at the boy.
“What?” He snaps.
“I said you should just ask her out,” Sirius crosses his arms. “This is pathetic, Moony. It was funny during our first year, but if I catch you drifting away from another conversation because of Y/N, I’ll have to ask her out for you.”
Remus scoffs, he turns away to face his locker and not you, which he considers is a real bloody shame.
“Are you coming to gym class or are you meeting some stranger inside a broom closet?” He asks just to distract Sirius. “May I remind you this is the fourth class you miss?”
“No need, I keep perfect count,” Sirius smirks. “But nah, I think today I’ll attend class... dunno, might even find it entertaining with you and James ogling at Evans and L/N.”
Tumblr media
Nothing interesting happens during gym class, nor during lunch, nor during History. Remus finds himself sick to the core of the same routine he’s had for a whole year, he wants to be different, wishes he could be loud and spontaneous like Sirius and James, maybe that way he would get invited to parties, maybe you’d know his name if that were the case.
It really is pathetic, how his gaze lingers on you when you walk by, how he perks up at the sound of your voice, the way colours seem brighter around you... he does his best to not be a creep, he’s never followed you around or anything, most of the times he runs into you by mere accident. Remus’ got no idea why he’s so deeply infatuated with you, part of him would love to call it ‘fate’, he’d love to say you’re his soulmate or something like that, but he knows better.
He’s just a sad loser.
Two weeks after Sirius unkind pep talk, Remus gathers enough courage to sit next to you in the library. You don’t even register his presence at first, which is normal since you haven’t registered his existence in a whole year, so why would today be any different?
However, something happens when you stop reading and take a moment to clear your mind:
Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby Listen to Iron Maiden baby with me Ooohoo Hoo Hooooooo
Remus sees you out of the corner of his eye when you notice him, you freeze on the spot, arms halfway up. He wants to look up and see what kind of expression is on your face, he feels the way your demeanour changes and frowns, eyes fixed on his own book. What if you recognized him? Oh God, what if you know he’s got a crush on you?
He starts to think of how to escape the place quickly without making it obvious, but then you speak.
“Hi... er—excuse me?” Your voice is as sweet as always, and he doesn’t look up at first, so you raise your voice a little. “Hello, Remus?”
His eyes widen almost comically. Well, he can’t ignore you now, can he? not when you just said his bloody name. Remus looks up at you with a sort of startled expression, his eyebrows are still knitted together and you can’t help but grin a little.
“Sorry,” You say, “I don’t know if you know... well, we have classes together and I noticed you’re doing our math assignment... oh, this is so silly—it’s okay if you say no, but I know you’re one of the best students in that class and I was wondering if maybe... you’d help me?”
Remus stares at you for half a second before his brain restarts.
“Y-Yes!” He says, clearing his throat to sound calm and collected and not at all like the complete pile of pudding he feels on the inside. “I... Yeah, I’ve seen you in class—How can I help you?”
You beam at his response, he gives a start when you stand up abruptly from your chair only to circle the table and sit right next to him, Remus prays he’s not as red as he feels.
Tumblr media
“You’re telling me Y/N was the one who... she just came up to you?”
“Yeah... and she’s nice,” Remus says quietly. “Nice and brilliant... we sat there talking until Madam Pince kicked us out.”
“I can’t believe it,” Sirius snorts. “You lucky bastard.”
“Sirius...”
“No, really,” He insists. “If it’d been up to you, it would’ve taken you another week to just ask for a pencil or some rubbish like that—”
“Enough, Padfoot,” James intervenes. “Leave him alone, can’t you see he’s in distress?”
Remus frowns at that. “What the hell do you mean?”
“Look at you mate, I can tell you spent the whole night up,” The boy snorts. “Y/N asked you out and you’re losing it.”
“I’m not losing it!” He replies. “She didn’t ask me out, she’s just coming to my house to study.”
“Exactly, she’s going to your house,” Sirius starts explaining. “Instead of inviting you to her house, probably because her parents are strict or she has siblings or something. She wants privacy, you see?”
“Padfoot, stop.”
“Don’t play dumb, Prongs,” He smirks. “We all know that’s the way girls flirt, by asking for some private tutoring. Why didn’t she ask Lily? She’s top of the class in everything!”
“That’s... that’s true,” James raises a brow. “Blimey, Moony, it does sound like a date.”
How did he not think of that? Why would you ask him, when he’s not even in the top three, he’s five at most!
“Hey, don’t lose your cool now!” James grabs him by the shoulders. “You’re getting a date out of this even if it’s the last thing we do.”
“I never asked for your help, though,” Remus replies in amusement.
“Oh, but you need it!” Sirius puts an arm around the boy’s shoulders. “She won’t know what hit her, one moment she’ll be like ‘Remus is such a gentleman’ and the next she’ll be begging you to kiss her—”
Remus snorts and shakes his head, as the trio walks out of the building he catches a glimpse of your profile as you follow Marlene and Lily to the opposite street. His smile grows at the thought of spending a whole afternoon alone with you. Maybe Sirius and James are right, there might be a way he can make you fall for him.
Oh yeah, dirtbag No, she doesn't know what she's missing Oh yeah, dirtbag No, she doesn't know what she's missing
Tumblr media
When you knock on his door the third day you meet to study, he doesn’t know what to do with himself. His clothes feel stupid, his hair doesn’t look right, and his mood drops when you enter looking perfect.
He’s an idiot, he has to be. It doesn’t matter what he thought three days ago, you’re some kind of godly being and he’s... he’s rubbish. You’re like one of those beautiful birds he sees during spring and he’s the raccoon that lives in the alleyway next to his house.
And sure, you have fun together, you seem to like him enough to invite him to the movies next Friday with the rest of your friends, and he’s never been invited anywhere unless James and Sirius take him with them. This is a nice change, still, he’s pretty sure you’re only being nice to him because he’s helping you with school.
Fortunately for him, you don’t stop that afternoon to examine his looks before entering his house. You’re apologizing for your ten minutes delay, but half of it goes unheard since he’s too busy making sure the drawing-room isn’t too messy before he guides you in.
He wants to impress you, although he’s well aware that his house is nothing out of the ordinary and you’ve seen it before anyway. If anything it’s quite below average, but once again you don’t even hesitate when you sit down on the couch and place your backpack on your lap, looking up at him.
Man I feel like mould It's prom night and I am lonely Lo and behold She's walking over to me
“So...” You start, “I think we should talk before we start?”
Remus looks around the room before realizing you sat on his books.
“Er...” He shyly signals towards you. “Could you... you sat on my stuff.”
“What?” You ask without understanding, then he leans over to pull the edge of his book and you jump up, rambling a new bunch of apologies when you accidentally step on his foot.
There’s a brief moment when the both of you are apologizing, although neither of you knows exactly why. It doesn’t matter, what matters is that you're both a mess and you’re not sure how this happened, but it’s obvious that today is not like the other days, something feels different.
This is ridiculous, and you might as well just shoot your shot before any of you accidentally sets the house on fire in an attempt to look cool.
“I have a confession to make,” Y/N states.
“You don’t have to say it,” Remus adds, even nervous he can’t help being a gentleman. “I mean, if you just talked to me so you could get to know James or Sirius—”
“What?” You frown. “No! I... I was going to say...”
Remus looks at you, he’s got his whole attention on your person and it makes your voice die down. He doesn’t know how he knows it, maybe he’s been wishing for so long to be tied to you by something more than just attraction that he brought it to life. As your voice dies, he knows exactly what you’re trying to tell him.
That’s all he’s been dreaming to tell you for months, but now that he’s done it he realizes Sirius was right, this wasn’t a big deal at all. It’s a little surprising how little it scares him. Doesn’t mean he’ll break into a million pieces if you laugh at him, though.
This must be fake My lip starts to shake How does she know who I am? And why does she give a damn about me?
“Y/N,” Remus starts. “I like you.”
However, all you do is walk up to him until you’re inches away, cup a side of his face and speak in a very soft voice:
“I’m so glad you said that,” You sigh in relief. “Lily said I’d have to throw myself on you in order for you to take the hint. She thinks you’re quite oblivious, you know? I mean, I asked you out the other day and all you said was ‘Thanks’.”
Remus doesn’t know what to reply to that, so he does the second best thing he can think of: He kisses you.
It’s so good, he can’t recall a single thing in his life that’s ever felt as good as your lips. Then your hands go up to his hair and he can think of one, his hand travels under your jumper while the other finally brushes against your hair and he thinks of two more, soon enough he discovers a whole world of new sensations he can’t wait to memorize.
“Are your parents home?” You mumble against his mouth.
“No,” His heart jumps at the thought, he moves away to see you. “Are you... do you want..?”
“Didn’t you say your room has a lovely view of the moon?” You smile wickedly, grabbing him by the belt and starting to walk backwards. “I’d love to see it.”
Remus blushes at your suggestion, but he’s a fast learner.
“It’s too early to see it,” He replies. “However, I might be able to make you see stars if you give me a few minutes...”
His reply drives you crazy and it shocks you, but you have to play it cool. After all, Remus is too perfect to rush your first time with him.
“Just a few minutes?” You tease.
Remus picks you up in a sudden movement and you let out a short squeal, wrapping your arms around his neck as he peppers your face with kisses.
“Don’t be eager,” He tickles your side. “We have a lifetime to try it all... if you want us to, of course.”
You stare at his bright and loving gaze, he looks comfortable in his own skin for once, confident even.
“Well, I’m pretty sure this isn’t how first dates usually go,” You joke, making him chuckle. “So you owe me a proper date—Which means that yes, I do want this... all of this. I want you.”
Remus nods once before kissing you again, carrying you all the way up to his room. He feels a bit sad for James and Sirius, they were looking forward to helping him get a girlfriend—on a good note, he’ll have very good news to tell his friends next Monday.
I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby like you Ooohoo Hoo Hooooooo
The new (and last 😭)sweater weather chapter put this situation in my head and I don’t have the talent to make it real:
How would Remus react after he learns he can be a player on the team? and how does the rest of the team react? and how does the media react? and what does Sirius say? and what is his first game like? And what does Jules and his family think? AND AND AND ????
Of course u don’t have to do anything and I adore your writing just thought I would share some of my frantic ramblings.
I’m getting lots of ones like these! My brain has been spinning with so many ideas but one that stuck with me were Remus’ old superstitions.
Characters and their wonderful world by @lumosinlove
Half Sheer Dumb Luck
Calf stretches before thigh
Remus just stared at coach Weasley.
“I’m sorry, what?”
“We’d like to offer you a place on the team.”
Remus wasn’t sure he could trust himself to blink, never mind talk. “Is this a joke?”
Arthur stepped forward, his face calm and reassuring. “Remus, no, of course not. I’m your friend. I wouldn’t do that to you. We, all of us, the organisation, the team, we’ve reviewed your tapes. We’ve seen you play. And we want you on the team.”
“The team knows.” It was a statement, not a question.
Arthur nodded.
“Sirius knows.”
He nodded again.
“This is real?”
Arthur smiled as he nodded this time. “As real as me standing here right now.”
“I’ll have to be ready.” Remus’ hands were shaking. “There’s so much to do.”
Coach stepped forward and placed his hand on Remus’ shoulder. “Yeah, there is. But I don’t think there’s a better man up for the job.”
“Oh my god.” Remus thought his knees were going to give way.
Arthur grinned and pushed Remus away from him lightly. “Now go talk to your boy. Not being able to tell you has been killing him.”
Remus nodded and walked away in a daze. Sirius was right where he left him, chatting to Thomas and Noelle. He smiled when he saw Remus.
“He… he wants me to join the team?”
Thomas let out a whoop. “Loops knows!”
The tent went up in cheers but Remus could only see Sirius.
“Is.. Would that be okay for you?”
Sirius frowned, pulling Remus right up against his chest. “Would that be okay? Oh my love, there’s nothing in the world that I would love more.”
Remus laughed, tears beginning to pool in his eyes. “I’m going to be on the Lions.”
Sirius kissed him, slow and filled with love. “You already are.”
“I’m going to have to train non-stop.”
“I’ll help you.”
“You’ll train over the summer?” Remus asked disbelievingly. Sirius kissed his forehead, then his nose and finally his lips. “I’ll do anything for you.”
The rest of the team then decided they had enough waiting and piled on, a massive group hug in the middle of the wedding reception, Remus right in the centre.
Two bottles of water on the bench.
“Mom, I have some news.” Remus said over the video call, his voice shaking. He could practically see his mother looking at his hand to see if there was a ring.
“It’s not that mom jeez, can you grab dad and Jules too?”
Remus waited until they were all together for him to speak again.
“So, the Lions organisation found my old tapes.” He began, “They started looking after they saw me play at family skate.”
Jules was just listening, bouncing in his seat waiting for Remus to get to the point. His mother looked concerned, but his father looked, almost knowing.
Remus swallowed, wishing he could tell them in person - he and Sirius were visiting next week but Remus needed to tell them in order for it to feel real. He was glad he was sitting on the couch at home, he needed some sense of normality.
“I’ve been asked to join the Lions.”
“I don’t understand. You already work with the Lions?”
“No mom, not as staff. I’ve been asked to join. As a player.”
Julian let out a whoop so loud Remus might have heard it without a phone. “Re, did you say yes? You had to say yes, please tell me you said yes!”
Remus laughed, nodding his head. “Of course I said yes.”
Hope promptly burst into tears and there was a definite pool forming in his dad’s eyes.
“Oh Re,” His mother breathed, “Oh my darling this is so, so wonderful.”
“No one deserves this more than you.” His dad was saying. “I am so proud.”
“Re does that mean I get to come to all of your games! Oh my god, you’ll be famous! I mean, you’re already famous, but you’ll be more famous! Re! You’ll be rich!”
Remus burst out laughing, looking around at the ridiculously large house he was in already, “I don’t think I need the money Jules.” While his mother rolled her eyes.
Julian gasped as another thought flew into his head. “Remus! I need to get your jersey!”
Sirius walked into the room, and perked up, “Oui! We need your jersey Re!”
Remus covered his face with his hands. “I don’t even have a jersey.”
“Yet.” Sirius corrected, curling up next to him and kissing his cheek. “You don’t have a jersey yet.”
Right foot first to step onto the ice.
“Es-tu prêt?” Sirius asked as they stood outside the locker room. Remus took a deep breath in.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
The clamour of the locker room was deafening, but Remus wouldn't have it any other way.. He nearly cried laughing when he saw that Nado and Kuny had decorated his new stall with pictures of Sirius, all copied and printed from social media with edits of Sirius shirtless and captions and endless heart-eyed emojis. He hugged Leo who was in the stall next to him and when he sat down to lace up his skates, he relished the feeling that he was part of the team. Because he was part of the team now, really and truly.
He met the new PT - Dorcas, with whom he knew he’d become fast friends. He also set about telling her all the ins and outs of working with the boys, their little superstitions, their tells when they were lying about their injuries. She just smiled and thanked him and told him to kindly fuck off and enjoy his first day, he could tell her all this another time.
The boys made a big show of letting Remus be the first out onto the ice (After you my good man) and while Remus rolled his eyes and smacked the back of a few heads playfully (Finn, Thomas and James), this was the moment he had waited for all of his life.
Right foot first, he stepped onto the ice.
Pasta and marinara before home games,
“Loops, what are you doing? I told you I would cook before your first game!”
Remus smiled and tilted his head up to kiss his boyfriend, placing both hands on his chest. “Baby, I love you, but you can cook precisely three dishes, and this isn’t one of them.”
Sirius pouted. “Your mom is teaching me.”
Remus nodded, “I know, that’s the only reason you can make those three dishes.”
Sirius shook his head smiling but he kissed Remus, nipping his bottom lip playfully.
“Are you nervous?”
“Terrified.”
“You’ll be incredible.”
“And if I’m not.”
Sirius kissed him. “If you’re not well then,” Sirius shrugged with one shoulder, “Then you try again next time. What was it a wise man once said? You always have more than one shot.”
Remus scrunched his nose. “That makes me sound like an old man.”
“A sexy old man.” Sirius commented and Remus just groaned. “Oh my god get out of here.”
Chicken and broccoli before away.
“Ha!” Sirius exclaimed when Remus walked into the kitchen and stopped short at the sight of his boyfriend cooking. “Je prépare le dîner ce soir.”
“... You don’t know how to make this one.”
Sirius put a hand to his chest in a wounded gesture. “You think I would give you food that is not good on a game day? Mon loup, how little faith you have.”
Remus felt a smile playing on his lips. “So you’ve magically learned how to cook?”
Sirius shook his head. “Non, that wouldn’t be magic, that would be a miracle. I have however, been taking lessons from your mother. Secret face-time lessons, when you’re out. I’m getting quite good.”
“You’ve been taking secret fact-time cooking lessons from my mother?”
Sirius nodded and held out a spoon for Remus to try. Remus dodged the spoon and kissed him instead. “I love you.”
Eggs morning of, pancakes after a win
“So,” Remus said, stepping into the locker room. “Who’s up for some pancakes?”
The roaring affirmative made Remus laugh before a warm weight barrelled into him.
“Hi Jules!”
Jules had taken to wearing both Remus and Sirius’ jersey at the same time to games, because he apparently couldn’t choose a favourite. He alternated between which one he wore on the outside. Today, it was Remus’, with LUPIN splashed across the back, the number 6 bold in the centre.
“Can I come get pancakes too?”
Sirius appeared behind Julian and threw him up into the air before setting him back on his feet, Jules giggling the whole time.
“We could never get pancakes without my favourite Lupin!”
“Hey!” Remus protested, but he looked at Julian’s set of jerseys and smiled.
“I suppose you can have two favourites.”
Finn, walking by, cupped his hands to his mouth. “Preach!”
Drag the puck around the crease twelve times.
“Hey Loops, are you coming to stretch?”
Remus smiled at James. “I’ll be over in a second Pots, I just have to do something first.”
James nodded and went to skate away before pausing. “Wait!” He looked at Remus sheepishly. “Blue?”
Remus shook his head fondly. “You’re so lucky I knew you’d ask for that.” He said ducking to grab a bottle of blue Gatorade he had taken from the kitchen for exactly this purpose. “Love you Fruit Loop!”
“Not as much as me, I hope.” Sirius commented as he stepped out onto the ice. “You coming?”
Remus shook his head. “Just gotta, you know.”
“Skate around the crease twelve times.” Sirius smirked. “I thought you weren’t superstitious.”
Remus flushed a dark red. “I’m not! But I’m not going to risk it either!” He laughed when he realised Sirius was teasing him and pushed him away lightly.
“Oh shove off, you can’t say anything.”
Sirius just continued to smirk at him as he skated backwards. “Love you too.”
Remus looked around the packed stadium as the anthem played and he pressed his star necklace to his lips. Looks like he had another tradition.
Real? Not Real?
Prompt: Uh hello, I just wanna day that I really really love your work. I came across it this morning and I’ve been binging it all day, and you are a REALLY good writer :) if it’s not too much to ask (and feel free to ignore this), could I request one of the Sides (preferably Janus) having a bad day and derealizing and another one (preferably Patton or Remus, but really any work) comforting them and helping them get grounded? Maybe something that is after the wedding, with everyone at odds with each other so no one notices at first?
Thanks for the prompt, babe!
Read on Ao3
Warnings: disassociation, derealizing, some things that could be interpreted as self-destruction
Pairings: none, other than platonic moceit and dukeceit
Word Count: 2287
The wall is yellow.
 The wall isn’t yellow.
The wall is yellow.
Janus pushes his door closed and sighs, leaning against the wood and taking his hat off. He scruffs a hand through his hair and lets his head thunk against the door.
 “Well,” he mutters, “that wasn’t exhausting.”
 The conversation had dragged on for hours; from picking apart every little idiosyncrasy and explaining every other word, it’s a wonder he had any energy left to even sink to his room.
 Well, he didn’t. That’s the point.
 He heaves himself up off the floor, stumbling a little when his body decides that no, actually, we’re going to remain on the floor because we dislike you personally.
 “Thank you,” he grits out as he fights the urge to collapse back to the floor, “no, really, I wanted to be able to fall over as soon as I tried to move.”
 When the floor looks like it stops spinning for a few seconds at a time, he reaches for his cane and shuffles over to the desk. The chair creaks a little in protest as he all but collapses into it. He tosses his hat toward the coat rack, missing terribly, and rips his gloves off.
 “Ah!”
Janus cups his hand around his wrist, biting back a curse as the glove catches on the underside of an older scale. He glances around. The first-aid kit is on the other shelf.
 “Damn.”
 He could just…stretch out and get it? Probably? He swallows and reaches. And reaches. And reaches.
 Why—why can’t he touch the shelf?
 Controlling limbs gets exponentially easier the longer and more disembodied they get. All the time.
 Janus grits his teeth and concentrates, closing his eyes until his fingers bump against the shelf.
 “Thank you,” he mutters as he brings the first aid kit back to his side. “That was certainly the picture of compliance.”
 The first aid kit, because it is an inanimate object—or rather, a collection of inanimate objects—says nothing.
 Trying to apply first aid one-handed is such fun. He ends up holding back the sleeve with his teeth as he rubs the ointment onto the patch left by the scale. The wrapper sticks to his fingers with the determination of a static-filled leech, refusing to budge even as he pries it off with one hand only for it to attach viciously to the other.
 “Get off!”
 It flutters down to lay infuriatingly close to the trash can.
 Or is it in the trash can?
 He reaches down to pick it up and put it inside. He can’t feel it through his gloves. So he takes them off. Maybe then it won’t get stuck. It lands in the trashcan noiselessly.
 Muttering to himself, he gets his gloves on their spot on his desk and goes about getting the rest of this stuff off. Snakes aren’t supposed to run warm, so why can’t he feel anything?
 He goes to undo the clasp on his cape only for his fingers to meet the soft fabric of his shirt. Oh. He must’ve taken it off already. Wait, did he even put it on when he left?
 He glances over to see it hanging on the hook by the door. Exactly where it was when he woke up this morning. Or was it? Wasn’t it draped over his chair? No, that was when he was about to leave.
 No, he put it on his doorknob, didn’t he? To make sure he didn’t forget it?
 But he never forgets his cape.
 Janus shakes his head, immediately regretting it when the action sends him into a dizzy spell. God, why is he so tired?
 It doesn’t matter, he decides, because he was going to take his cape off but now he doesn’t have to because it’s already off. So he can take his shirt off now.
 But first, he should take his gloves off. Trying to undo shirt buttons with gloves on is a tedious process.
 His fingers scratch the bandage over a spot on his hand. That’s funny. He doesn’t feel any pain coming from it. Maybe it’s healed already?
 No, no, he just put that bandage on.
 “Get yourself together,” he scolds himself, going to undo the buttons, “you’re being ridiculous.”
 Is he, though?
 He spent so long observing and mirroring the others today, just to get in the habit of it when he needs to, that is it really a surprise that he can’t really remember what his own limbs are doing?
 Yes. Yes, it is.
 His shirt lies in the corner. He doesn’t remember putting it there. He’s still wearing it, he hasn’t gotten all the buttons off yet. His fingers touch his bare scales. Oh. Maybe he has.
 Why does it look like it’s the wrong color?
 Janus squints hard at the offending pile of fabric lurking in the corner. As he stares, the fabric moirés into a dizzying display. He blinks. That shirt isn’t patterned. It’s just a plain white shirt. Why is it doing that? Is it doing that? Are Janus’s eyes doing that?
 He crosses the room, stumbling a little as he gets up—since when has that table been there?—and grabs the shirt. It folds and bends and warps around his fingers. It should be cool to the touch. The fabric is soft, normally.
 He can only tell he’s supposedly squeezing it from the wrinkles that appear around his fists.
 “This doesn’t belong here,” he mutters, going to put it in the laundry basket.
 The laundry basket is not where it’s supposed to be.
 “Fuck.”
 Did he leave it downstairs? That’s always a risky move; Remus will capitalize on any opportunity to completely and utterly destroy any abandoned object. He turns to go rescue his laundry basket only for it to appear out of the corner of his eye.
 Oh.
 Has it been there the whole time?
 Janus frowns. He looks at the laundry basket, he looks at the shirt, he looks at his cape, he looks at his gloves.
 The bandage on his wrist should be itching.
 It isn’t.
 Why not?
 Oh.
  Oh.
 He smiles to himself and lets the shirt fall to the ground.
 Right, how could he forget?
 This isn’t real.
 None of this is real. He doesn’t exist. He is a figment of Thomas’s imagination, created as part of an elaborate plan to explore personality facets for entertainment purposes. He is not real. He cannot exist in any way that matters.
 That is why the first aid kit won’t speak to him. That is why his shirt creates patterns that are impossible. That is why the laundry basket keeps appearing and disappearing. They’re not real. None of it is real.
 He is not real.
 The walks flicker a pale white as he sinks slowly to the ground, staring up at the fake ceiling. The floor is not solid under him. His legs do not groan and scream in protest as he lies his nonexistent weight across them. His eyes do not fog up. His head does not throb. The door does not feel like a cage, trapping him in a spiral of down, down, down.
 Nothing is real.
 Least of all time.
 …
 …quiet.
 “—nus!”
 “Janus, are you in there?”
 “Snake-Face, if you don’t open up right this instant, I swear—“
 “Kiddo, you never came down for dinner, we’re worried, are you alright?”
 “I’m gonna break this fucking door down.”
 “Remus, no—!”
 A loud thud does not startle him awake. His eyes do not fly open. His body does not refuse to respond as chunks of wood fly all over his room. The walls do not look like they’re transparent as someone peers at him. They are not real.
 “Janus? Oh my goodness, Janus!”
 Patton. Patton is also not real. That is okay.
 Patton does not rush across the floor to him and fall to his knees. His eyes aren’t welled up with tears that he bravely tries to fight back, smiling down at him. Patton’s hands do not cup his face tenderly. He doesn’t say anything.
 “Kiddo?”
 He cannot speak. Real things cannot speak.
 “Kiddo, can you hear me?” Patton does not stroke his thumb gently over his cheek. “Can you breathe?”
 Real things do not breathe.
 “Fuck,” Remus does not swear, “he’s derealizing again.”
 “He’s what?”
 “Derealizing.” Remus does not run to crouch beside them. Remus does not gently tuck his hands under his legs to lift them into a more comfortable position. “Gets stuck in his own head, caught up in his own lies.”
 Patton does not help Remus. He does not cradle his head and lift it up. The pillow suddenly under his head is not real, not soft, not pleasantly cool. His hand does not stay in his hair, stroking gently.
 “He’s overcorrecting,” Remus does not murmur, “convincing himself that nothing is real.”
 “Oh, kiddo,” Patton doesn’t sigh, doesn’t ruffle his hair gently, “you’re real, kiddo, stay with us.”
 “He’s not gonna believe you, Daddio.”
 “Then what do we do?”
 “You’re not gonna like it,” Remus doesn’t say.
 He doesn’t get up and leave. Patton doesn’t stay, still stroking his hand through his hair soothingly. Is it soothing? Does it feel soft? Caring?
 Patton—Patton is caring, right?
 “It’s gonna be okay, sweetheart,” Patton doesn’t—does?—murmur, “you’ll get through this, okay? You’ll get through this, I know you will.”
 “Here.”
 Oh, Remus is back. Is? Isn’t? Is Remus real?
 “Just hold this, okay?”
 “It’s really warm, are you sure—?”
 “That’s what the towel’s for.”
 Remus doesn’t crouch back down next to him. Patton isn’t gripping whatever Remus just gave him in his fist. He doesn’t look worried.
 Wait, why is he worried?
 “Ah!”
 He cries out in surprise when something freezing presses to his stomach. Cold. Cold, cold—
 “Shh, easy, Snakey,” Remus soothes—wait, doesn’t soothe? Is Remus real?—immediately replacing the cold with something warm, warm, warm, “it’s okay, it’s gone now, you did great, just stay here, okay?”
 “Re-Remus?”
 “Yeah, Jan-Jan, it’s me, I’m right here, can you grab onto me?”
 He can’t, he’s not real, Remus isn’t real, but Remus is right there—
 “There you go,” Remus encourages when his fingers hook through the ends of his sleeves, “you got me, okay? I’m not going anywhere.”
 “Why—what happened? Why are you here?”
 “You never came down to dinner, kiddo,” Patton says, stroking his solidwarmreal hand through his hair again, “we got worried. No one could call you and the room wasn’t letting us sink.”
 Well of course it wasn’t, it isn’t real.
 Wait.
 “How did—“ he gasps— “how did you know I was here?”
 Patton frowns, tilting his head. “Because we care about you, kiddo, you’re important to us.”
 How can he be important when he isn’t real?
 “Hey,” Remus says sharply, giving his wrist a little tug, “no drifting off again, Snakey, stay here.”
 “H-here?”
 “Yeah.” Remus presses the hot pad into his stomach and oh, it’s so warm, it has to be real. “Right here, Jan-Jan. You feel this?”
 “Yes.”
 “This is real. This is real. I’m really here, I’m really holding this to your real stomach. You’re real. The floor is real. Patton’s real.”
 Patton’s real?
 “I’m real, sweetheart,” Patton says softly, still rubbing his hand through his hair, “and so are you.”
 He opens his mouth to try and breathe. If he’s real, he should be able to breathe…right?
 “That’s it, kiddo, good.” The hand in his hair moves again. “Just lie there and breathe for a moment, okay?”
 He looks over at Remus. Remus starts to rub little circles into his stomach with the warm towel.
 “Stay here, stay real, Snakey,” he encourages, “just focus on this.”
 The floor becomes solid under him again. Patton’s hand, his voice, he can hear them. Feel them. He blinks at Remus, real Remus, still working patiently.
 He must make some noise because Remus pauses, looking up at him. Then he takes the towel and reaches up to slowly, slowly brush it over his cheek.
 The tears that spring to his eyes at the tenderness of the gesture certainly feel real.
 “Oh, kiddo,” Patton whispers, pulling him into a solidwarmreal chest, “it’s okay, shh, you’re safe, you’re real, everything’s okay.”
 He gasps again, trapped in the warmth of Patton’s embrace. Remus scoots in behind them, wrapping his arms tightly through the limbs that still don’t want to work.
 “Why can’t I move,” he chokes out, “why can’t I move?”
 “You’re exhausted, sweetheart,” comes Patton’s soft reply, “you overworked yourself today.”
 “But I can’t feel them!”
 “Here,” he whispers, gently squeezing one of his arms, “can you feel that?”
 “O-only a little.”
 “How about here…and here…there.”
 Patton’s hands are so warm and solid and real.
 “P-Patton?”
 “Yeah, kiddo, I’m right here.”
 “Remus?”
 “I’m here too, Snakey, we gotcha.”
 “Am I—is this—“ he swallows unsteadily— “is this…real?”
 “Yeah, kiddo,” Patton murmurs as Remus strokes firmly up and down his back, “this is real.”
 Patton is real, solid and warm against him. Remus is real, solid and warm behind him.
 Janus opens his eyes and stares at the yellow wall.
