Tiring Secrets; Part 2
read part 1 here
summary: you and mason both struggle to deal with the break up.
pairing: mason mount x reader
a/n: thank you for all the love on part 1 <33
Tumblr media
The next few days were hard for you, to say the very least. You missed being woken up by Mason pressing soft kisses in your hair. You missed your date nights and most of all, you simply missed him. But you had to shake off that feeling because Mason couldn’t care less about you. Not once did he try to call or text you since that night, so this whole break up must have been a relief for him. No hiding behind lies, free from your relationship and free to see whoever he wants.
It was the weekend, which meant you had no work and for once, you weren’t happy about it. Work would have been the perfect distraction from your thoughts, but since that wasn’t an option, you dragged yourself out of bed and had a quick shower, followed by breakfast and Netflix. That also failed to distract you as your thoughts drifted to how you would cuddle with Mason when watching tv, the way his voice would tickle your neck as he would comment stupid things, making you burst into laughter.
That moment was interrupted by the sound of your phone ringing. Hoping it was Mason calling, you rushed to pick up your phone. That hope was short-lived when you saw your screen. It was an unknown number.
“Hello?” confusion evident in your voice.
“Hey, is this Y/N?” It was a voice you had heard before but you weren't sure where exactly.
“Yeah, who's this?” you tilted your head, still confused.
“It's Mason's friend, we met earlier this week.”
Oh. That’s why he sounded familiar. You assumed that Mason gave him your number since you were only his ‘sister’s friend’. Immediately, you were filled with regret as you lead him on by giving him the wrong impression at the club.
“About that night, I had a really nice time with you but-” you tried to find the words before his voice stopped you mid-sentence.
“Wait, you’ve got the wrong end of the stick, I called you to talk to you about Mason,” he corrected, saving you the embarrassment of whatever nonsense you were going to say.
The conversation was getting more and more weirder by the second.
“What's there to talk about, he's my sister's brother," you flinched as you spoke those dreaded words.
"You don't need to pretend Y/N, Mason told me everything, and it was pretty shitty of him to treat you like that,"
"Oh," was all you could utter as you felt your face heat up. Now that you did not expect.
"Breaking up with him was fair and honestly, you had every right to do that. But ever since then, he’s been completely lost and I don’t know what to do. I’ve tried to get through to him but he won’t listen. Can you maybe talk to him?”
“I don’t think I’m the best person, you know?”
“Trust me, all of us have tried, and I wouldn’t ask if I wasn't desperate. You’re the only one I know he’ll listen to. Just talk to him this once please?”
You cleared your throat, "where is he now?"
"He’s at home,”
“Isn’t he at training today?” At this time, he would usually be training for the match tomorrow.
“The gaffer thinks that Mason's been training too hard so he sent him home early to rest,"
“Um… okay I’ll go over soon,” you hesitated.
“Thanks Y/N, and again, I’m sorry about everything,” he apologised.
You said your goodbyes and hung up the call. You had to prepare yourself for seeing Mason again, when you didn’t even know if he wanted to see you.
Tumblr media
You rang the doorbell to Mason’s house, something you hadn’t done in a while since you had your own key so you’re used to letting yourself in. But it seemed right to, considering the whole break up.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?” a smile crept onto his face, but that didn’t distract you from his bloodshot eyes, messy hair and the fact that he looked like he hadn't slept in days.
“I got a call from your friend and he told me that you’ve not been you for the past few days,” you stated, playing with the sleeves of your hoodie.
Mason didn’t reply. He wasn’t going to even deny it as he moved to the side of the doorway, letting you come inside as he shut the door behind you.
“So are you gonna tell me what’s going on?” you walked through to the living room, sitting down on the sofa.
He thought about it for a minute, thinking carefully about what he should say whilst chewing his bottom lip.
“What do you want me to say Y/N, that I'm not alright becuase I miss everything about you, I miss your smile, your laugh, the sound of your voice, and if I wasn’t such a fuck up you would still be mine,”
You were silent. You still wanted to be his despite everything.
“I’m sorry Y/N, I really am, for everything. I know the way I treated you was unfair. You deserve to be shown off, not hidden away like a dirty secret. I hate myself for ever hurting you and I don’t blame you for hating me or never wanting to see me ever again,” he dropped his head, no longer looking at you.
"Come here," you pulled Mason in for a hug, his head melted into your shoulder, his arms wrapping tightly around your waist, as silent tears dampened your hoodie.
"You broke my heart Mase, but I could never hate you," reassuringly, you rubbed the back of his neck as he released a soft sigh of relief hearing those words leave your lips.
“Give me a chance to fix this, to fix us?” he mumbled into your shoulder.
You pulled away from the hug, gently cupping Mason's face and tilting it up to look into his puffy eyes as you brushed away his tears with your thumbs.
“How do I know it’s going to work this time?” you breathed softly.
“Because I’m always going to be honest with you- no more lies and no more hiding, I promise,” sincerity filling his voice, “what do you say?” a slight cheeky smirk forming on his lips, one he knows you can’t resist.
“This is your last chance Mount, you better not mess it up,” you leaned in for a well overrdue kiss, finally kissing those soft lips you had missed so much.
“I won’t,” his words muffled against your mouth.
As the two of you pulled away from the kiss, Mason had a small confession to make.
"Now that I come to think of it, there was one thing I didn't miss about you," he admitted.
"What?" you narrowed your eyes.
“You stealing my hoodies,” he gave you a look, and you knew exactly what he was talking about,
“This one? Nah, this has been mine forever, if you want to borrow it, you can,” you winked.
“Sure sure,” he rolled his eyes playfully and pulled you in for another kiss.

Bobby: Buck, this is the group chat
Buck: I know but he’s not answering me in our chat or my phone calls and Chris’ phone is off

Chim: hahahaha yes, last time I left a message on that thing I had to click five different buttons, it’s set up like an office phone, different extensions for him, Chris, and Buck
Buck: home phone?
Hen: you didn’t know Eddie has a landline?
Chim: yes Buck, back in the Stone Age we had wired phones
Bobby: but you’re an option on the answering machine?
Chim: CODEPENDENT
Hen: I need the telephone gods to smile down on me as I make this next phone call and let Eddie wake up, I need to sleep
Bobby: if he hasn’t woken up by now I don’t think there’s a chance
Buck: Bobby! don’t say that, we need to see the turtles!!!
Ravi: why don’t you check location sharing? Maybe he’s not home and his phone is still on silent from being on shift
Buck: great idea! See guys, this is being helpful
Hen: you think mr hates technology has location sharing on?
Ravi: you think he’d know how to turn that default setting off?
Chim: we’ve all been calling him and being helpful, I take offense turtle boy
Buck: Ravi, you’re the best!
Hen: oh thank god, you found Eddie?
*15 minutes pass*
Hen: Buck did you reach Eddie?
*10 minutes pass*
Hen: Buck, it’s almost 10am, and you are the reason I could not sleep, did you guys get in line for the damn turtle tickets?
*20 minutes pass*
Hen: after all that I didn’t even get to know if you saw the turtles?!
Eddie: (image of Buck, Chris and Jee with baby turtles)
Buck: 🐢🐢🐢
Bobby: have a fun family day!
Hen: Eddie, why the fuck didn’t you answer your phone???
Eddie: I left it in Buck’s jeep when he dropped me off after our shift
Hen: I have no words
Buck: 😇 🐢

Another Time (Chapter 10/14)
ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT NINE
Summary: Jake wakes up in Rooster's body ~30 hours post-Mission and they have to deal with it. They're adults. Apparently.
(Posting on Tumblr, chapter a day until it's complete (currently 14 chapters already written), after it's complete I will post it on AO3 once a day until it's completed there as well).
Odd chapter = Jake POV, Even chapter = Bradley POV
TEN
                He wakes up warm, his arm firmly tucked over a torso, and he hums under his breath. He’s still not in his own body. As he’d predicted last night, Nat had commandeered his guest room. Coyote had gotten a lift home from Bob, both promising to return tomorrow. Now today. It had left him with the sofa, the lumpy as fuck one-seater or the floor beside Hangman. He’d considered the option of sliding into the bed beside Hangman, but there’s a big difference between doing it when he’s awake and asking (and okay, a bit loopy because of the drugs), and doing it when he’s fast asleep. He’d wanted to though. Being rudely woken in the middle of the night and being offered, no, told, that got what he wanted, well, that’s something he could get used to.
                He stretches a little, nuzzles his nose into the nape of Hangman’s neck and just breathes for a moment.
                “Mornin’,” Hangman says, voice rough and Bradley misses his accent.
                “Morning…” He replies, hears the accent and it just isn’t the same.
                “So, what’s on the list?”
                “It ended up being quite a… quite a list,” Bradley states, because he’d read it over and felt uncomfortable just reading it, let alone discussing it. Although he knows they’re going to have to. He draws away from Hangman and reaches for the piece of paper and hands it to Hangman silently. Gets up and goes to the bathroom and comes back, sliding back under the blankets without being asked, Hangman having shifted to face him and looking at him isn’t going to make this any easier.
                “Vulnerability. Trust. Communication… this is like intense couples therapy before we’re even a proper couple,” Hangman says and Bradley laughs quietly, because he’s not wrong.
                “Yeah. This feels all backwards.”
                “Hmm. You think we would have managed to figure this out if we’d been doing it the traditional way?”
                “Well, I guess we’ll never know.”
                “Guess so. Backwards it is. Well, at least we can cross off proximity and touch… I mean, we’ve touched plenty,” Hangman states and his lips twitch in a smile and Bradley finds his eyes tracking the movement. Also noting that his moustache really needs a trim. Hmm.
                “And calling each other by our first names…”
                “You got a middle name?”
                “Uh, yeah. Peter.”
                “After Mav?” Hangman asks.
                “Yeah,” Bradley says on a sigh.
                “Hmm. Well, okay then Bradley Peter Bradshaw, my name is Jacob Andrew Seresin.”
                “Nice to meet you Jacob Andrew Seresin…”
                They both go silent, looking around hopefully for a brief second before they both break into huffs of laughter, shaking their heads.
                “God I wish it was that easy.”
                “Guess we can’t catch a break huh? Well, how about… biggest fear?”
                Bradley has to stop and think, because his immediate response is that he’s not afraid of anything. That’s a lie of course, but he can’t put it in words what it is he’s afraid of the most, feels like he’s lived through his worst fears coming true over and over to put a voice to them.
                “Least favorite food?” Hangman asks instead, obviously reading something in his silence or on his face.
                “Fruit.”
                “An entire food group? Really?”
                “Yeah. I’m really picky when it comes to fruit. My apples need to be crunchy, my bananas not too soft, pineapple still firm…”
                Hangman snorts.
                “Picky wee Rooster…”
                “No, I just know what I like.”
                “Do you just…”
                Bradley laughs, wants to shove him, kiss him, straddle him and –
                “Do you ever stop flirting?”
                “Nope. It’s all part of my charm darlin’.”
                “Part of something alright,” Bradley mutters and then Hangman is leaning forward, capturing his lips so soft and Bradley relaxes into it for the briefest of moments.
                “So, the whole physical intimacy. So polite of Bob. I want… it’s the last resort. I want to be in my own body when we do… more.”
                “More. Yeah… Although, if you jerk me off right now, would that count as you getting me off, or me getting off?”
                Bradley groans and pulls away with a laugh, shakes his head as he feels his neck and chest go warm with desire and embarrassment.
                “I have no idea… but I feel like we can put that down as a middle-step…”
                “All part of your plan of attack hmm?
                “Shut up. Like you have any better ideas.”
                “It’s just like another mission. We’ll figure it out. Break it down.”
                “Doubt this one can be fixed with a couple of well-aimed missiles.”
                “No. But I guess I can talk about myself for a bit…”
                “Your favorite subject right?” Bradley says, and he means it as a joke before he realizes that no, Hangman doesn’t talk about himself. He’s a cocky arrogant fighter pilot, confident in his abilities and more than willing to talk himself up… but that’s all surface. It’s not who he is. “Tell me.”
                “Hmm. Well. Vulnerable right?”
                Bradley’s stomach does an unpleasant flip. He’d hoped there wasn’t a tragic backstory or trauma but…
                “It’s not bad. I mean, my parents had me very late in life. My brother and sister are closer to Mav’s age than mine. Still, we’re all pretty close. I’m closer with my nieces and nephews… It’s just…”
                “You don’t have to…”
                “But I do, don’t I? What if it’s this that makes us switch back?”
                Bradley lets out a long breath, because he has a point.
                “We don’t have to do it all now though. Come on. We’ve got to get you ready for your hospital appointment and then we’ve got the debrief. We’ve also got something really important to take care of.”
                “What?”
                “I need to trim that moustache,” Bradley states and grins when Hangman laughs freely, some level of tension dripping away.
                “Do you not trust me?”
                “With my life? Yes. With my ‘stache? Not so much…”
                “Afraid I might shave the whole thing off?”
                “I think I could deal with that, it’s you trimming it crooked that would be world ending.”
                “Well okay honey, take care of me.”

Nova’s Semester
I noticed none of my timing matches anything in the show because it's 2010 and Elena's 22 lol so for the sake of the timeline we'll just pretend Elena and Jeremy are adults.   Grammar mistakes were made, I'm sure.
Warning: swearing?, Mentions of weed Eventual: Elijah Mikaelson x OC, Niklaus Mikaelson x OC, Kol Mikaelson x OC, Rebekha Mikaelson x OC, Finn Mikaelson x OC Ending: Mikaelson Family x OC Words- 2695 Summary: Nova’s first day of school
                                                              Chapter 2
                                                            2 weeks later
August, 10 Dear Diary, Today is the first day of school. I feel horrible. I've turned in my electives, a bit late, but I still got them in. I might have kicked myself in the teeth with this though, I have no clue what classes I'm going to have this year, I don't even know if the classes I picked were available. Maybe Elena was right, I should have filled it out before they were due. The only class I hope I don't get is gym. I hate sweating, it's gross, and then not being able to take a shower afterward sucks ass. I guess I'm making a big deal over nothing, I guess I'm feeling a little off today. I don't know what it is, it's like a feeling in my gut. I don't think anything bad is going to happen, but I've never felt this way before on the first day of school. What should I do?
A light tapping can be heard from Nova’s door, she reluctantly gets up from her bed, putting her diary under her bed and throwing the pen somewhere on her bed to be lost within its sheets, she gets to her door finally opening it to reveal her sister. “Oh, good, you're up, you should start getting ready if you haven't already.” Nova lets out a big yawn giving a nod to her sister before closing the door. As she turns from her door a sense of dread starts to fill her. She stands at her door for a few more seconds before she slowly walks over to her closet throwing it open to fetch her outfit for the day. She decided to go with a simple white t-shirt with a plaid cover-up and some blue shorts. She rummages through her basket of shoes not liking any of her options. She looks to her right and sees her raggedy black and white converse. ‘Guess I'm wearing these all year again’ she thought to herself. After she got dressed, she started to finish the routine she's been doing since kindergarten. She made sure her teeth and hair were brushed, throwing her hair into a messy bun as she walked out of her bathroom and back into her room.
Nova moves about her room collecting everything she would need, her backpack filled with her notebooks and other school supplies, she grabs her purse, phone, headphones, and skateboard before turning off the lights, and moving downstairs and into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. When she walks into the kitchen, she's met face to face with Damon and Elena both sitting at the dining table with mugs in their hands. She pauses in the doorway looking between the two “Uh hi?” The pair at the table pause their conversation to turn their attention to her. “Good morning, to you too sparky, I see you've woken up on the right side of the bed,” Damon smirks and drinks the coffee from the mug in his hands. Instead of answering Damon, she turns to her sister with a puzzled look “Why aren't you at work? I thought you had an early morning shift today.” Nova moves about the kitchen waiting for an answer and the one she gets is not one she wants to hear. “I called off.” Nova stops pouring her juice into her glass and looks up at her sister. She ponders for a moment and comes to the conclusion Damon did something stupid and Elena was babysitting him, again. She snorts and replies “What did Damon do this time?” The man in question throws his hand over his heart and gasps “Sparky how could you, I thought we were friends?” Elena rolled her eyes and sighed “Damon didn't do anything Nova.” She brings her plate of food and glass of juice over to the table “So, why is he here at seven-thirty in the morning?” Damon threw his hands up in defeat “Really, I'm right here, fully capable of answering your question by the way.” Nova ignores him and waits for her sister to answer. “Because I told him I called off, and he showed up ten minutes later.” she shrugs and sips on her coffee “Well why did you call off in the first place.”
Elena looks to Damon and back to Nova, clears her throat “I’m taking you to school today, you know the first-day drive tradition.” Right. She forgot; it had completely slipped her mind. The first day drive picture tradition, something their parents had started when they were little. Elena was insistent every year to do this tradition. It was a simple tradition, let mom and dad drive them to school on the first day of every year for the first day of school picture. Nova didn't mind it even if she did hate having her picture taken because her parents always made the drive there so fun. When Elena wouldn't let it go, it made Nova hate the tradition completely. Nova lets out a noise of affirmation, to let her sister know she heard her, still in thought about all the times she and her parents carried out this silly little tradition. Today Nova decided she would have none of it. “Yeah, no thanks, you really shouldn't have called off work.” She stands from her seat taking her dishes to the sink. “What do you mean no, Nov we've always done this tradition.” Nova shrugged her shoulders moving towards the door, grabbing her board, and opening the door “Yup, but this year is different because we're not.” she steps out into the cool morning air takes a deep breath, and closed the door behind her.  At least she tried to close the door only to be intercepted by Damon's hand “Whoa sparky come on now what are doing.” Nova continues down the stairs of her front porch choosing to ignore Damon. As soon as her feet hit the pavement of the road, she slams her board to the ground taking off as fast as she can trying to get far away from the two people calling her name from behind her.
As Nova skates down the road, she looks around her to admire the beauty of the changing leaves, even if Nova hated the school year, she could at least admit fall was by far the prettiest season. Nova continued to stroll down the road towards school, contemplating how much trouble she would get if she just didn't go. She thought about just riding to her best smoking spot. It was a small little area behind the old Lockwood estate. Past all the trees and underbrush there was a small clearing big enough to fit a small group of people; the opening stretched up to the very top of the trees giving her an amazing view of the sky no matter the time of day. Her idea to cut school was severed when she heard the loud honk of a car behind her. She slows herself to a stop hopping off her board, picking it up, and moving over to the sidewalk to get out of the car's way. She places her board back down on the ground and takes off moving towards a familiar stop sign. All she needed to do was turn left and she could forget about school and everything else that goes with it. Instead, as soon as she hopped off her board to get over the crack in the sidewalk a hand reached down and grabbed her board from her “Hey, who the hell-?” her question stops abruptly when she looks up to the stranger grabbing her board only to not be met with a stranger but Damon.
Damon takes her board and holds it to his chest, swaying it side to side to taunt her. “Hey douchebag, give it back.” Damon chuckles and shakes his head “No can do sparky, not until you talk to your sister.” Damon finishes pointing to who she guessed was Elena behind her. “Come on Nov don't be this way.” Nova spins around to face her sister “Are you seriously going to make me late just because you want some stupid photo.” Elena huffs and throws her head back stomping her foot like a child “Nova common we've done this every year since kindergarten, please for me?” “Elena I'm not going to be late for school just because you want to take a fucking photo.'' She turns around with full intent to yell at Damon to give her, her board back only to be met with nothing. She hears the sound of a trunk door closing and she spins back around to see Damon walking back to the both of them with a smirk on his face. The more time ticks by the more annoyed she becomes, “Are you fucking kidding me?” Damon just slings an arm over Elena’s shoulders leaning his side into hers ``Hey I'm just following orders sparky.” Nova looks between the two of them “I don't give a shit Damon; give me my fucking board you have no right to take it even if you're just “following orders''.” She makes quotation marks with her hand to try and convey her annoyance to the two. “Nov come on please?” Elena tries to give her the same old airy smile added with her famous ‘puppy eyes’, it makes Nova sick. Nova throws her head back and lets out a groan “Fucking fine, but we're taking the picture here and you’re only getting one.”  Elena slumps her shoulders ``Nov- ``'' Come one sparky that isn't fair.” Nova just shrugs her shoulders dramatically and drops them to her side with a thud. “Fair for who, Elena or me?” Damon goes to answer but Elena beats him to it “Fine, Damon go get my phone please.” The man gives a mock salute before walking back to the car to retrieve the item.
 Elena and Nova stand there in silence for a few seconds before Elena lets out a sigh “Why was it so hard for you to just let me take a picture of you?” the tone in her voice instantly set her off “Um, because as my older sister I expected you to listen to me when I tell you no, but it's all about what Elena wants right?” “Now it's not like that, you know mom and dad would want you to do this even if they aren't here.”  Novas was dumbfounded for a moment not knowing what to say her sister had never used their parents against her before, never. Nova could not convey the words; she just couldn't explain how hard that jab hit her. “Here you go, my lady.” Damon gives a dramatic bow as he places her phone into her hands, probably having heard the entire conversation. Nova doesn't have the energy to get into a catfight with her sister, so she just stands and smiles for the picture. As soon as the flash goes away Nova is storming towards the car, opening the back door and turning to look at the two. “You've already made me late, the least you can do is drive me, isn't that what you wanted?” she doesn't wait for a reply as she gets in and shuts the door behind her.
 When they finally pull up to the curb of the sidewalk that sits in front of the school, Nova immediately gets out of the car, slamming the car door shut behind her, cringing at the volume it created. Nova doesn't want to even talk to her sister or Damon so she just pounds her fist on the trunk of the car a couple of times, hoping Damon would get the hint. Fortunately for her, he did, he pops the truck to the car so she can grab her board, and as soon as she does, she's on the sidewalk taking off. “Nova!” she hears her sister exclaim from behind, she slows herself to a stop and looks back. Her sister is leaning out of the window of the car waving “Have a good day!” Nova raises her hand, acknowledging her sister's words before starting back up on her board and taking off towards the school entrance, the knot in her stomach only worsening.
The closer she got to the entrance of the building the more she was slowed down due to the crowd of people in front of her, even if she was a little late, she wasn't the only one. She hops off her board, kicking it up into her hands as she enters the familiar red building, going past the cafeteria and gym entrance, heading straight into the office doors, and up to the receptionist's desk. The little lady sitting behind the desk in front of her happened to be one of Nova’s favorite people.
 The old woman's name was Barb Booker, she had short curly gray hair with long white streaks on the sides. She always wore a hand-knit sweater no matter the temperature, and whatever color skirt she got to match. The only thing Nova liked about school was getting to say hello to Barb every morning. “Good morning, Barb, how are you this fine lovely morning?” Barb raises her head from her computer with a big smile on her face “Oh hello dear I'm doing amazing, it's so good to see you!” Nova giggles at the women's enthusiasm for the start of the new year. “How are you dearie, haven't seen you in quite some time.'' The twang of Barb's accent loosens the knot that had seemingly made a home in her stomach. “I'm doing alright Barb, just here to pick up my schedule.” at the mention of her purpose for her visit, she instantly got a playful glare from Barb ``Turning in elective three weeks late huh, what did you do fall in a rabbit hole?” Nova lets out a bark of laughter much louder than she anticipated because all heads turned to her and Barb. She sheepishly apologizes and turns back to her. “I guess, I had lots of cleaning to do this summer, got distracted, and forgot.” Barb pushes herself out of her chair to grab all the right documents for her, from the desk behind her. As she sits back down, she hands Nova the papers and a pen, “How is life going on at home?” Nova pauses for a second before continuing her signature “Uh, pretty much the same since the last time we talked.” Barb was the only one who knew how demanding and selfish Elena could be. The reason was Nova talked to and confided in her when her sister was being that way. “So, I'm assuming your elective was late because Elena made you clean?” instead of answering she just lets out a long sigh. Barb shakes her head as she hands the pen back to her. “Sweetpea you're eighteen now, have you thought about getting your own place?” she shrugs her shoulders “Sometimes, I don't have the funds to do that at the moment, and where would I go anyway Mystic Falls is a pretty small-town last time I checked” Barb was in the middle of her next sentence when the bell suddenly rang. Both of them jumped from the sudden interruption “Oh dear, I'm making you late, here.” Barb reaches over to grab an orange slip from a cubby next to her, a late slip for class she assumes. She hands the slip to Nova with a smile “You’ll come to see me later alright dear?” “Yes ma’am.” Nova smiles at her and turns to the door, opening it and moving down the hall to her first class of the senior year.

Healing
Day 11 of #BG3FicFeb - "bandaging/healing each other's wounds" Astarion patches up a deep cut on Tragedy's shoulder, and the couple talk about their plans for the next day. (Cazador~)
This might be my favourite so far! Cute and wholesome, but also angsty as heck.
1082 words, named Tav x Astarion, tw: needles, blood, vague mentions of abuse.
Tumblr media
“Ah-” Tragedy hissed a breath in through her teeth as a burning, stinging pain shot down her arm.
“Hold still would you?” Astarion chided, an alcohol-soaked cloth in his hand, trying to clean a deep wound Tragedy had acquired on her left shoulder.
“Sorry, sorry. But fuck that hurts.”
The pink tiefling sat cross-legged on her bed in the Elfsong Tavern. Her tail lay curled around her, the tip hanging over the edge of the mattress and swaying restlessly. Astarion was also sitting on the bed, one leg crossed beneath him against Tragedy’s side, the other foot resting on the floor. A simple first aid kit lay open next to him. The necromancer wasn’t accustomed to dealing with wounds this severe - she was a spellcaster, not a fighter, she knew to keep a distance from the melee, and usually made it out of a fight unscathed. But she hadn’t been given the option tonight.
Tonight, the whole camp had been woken up in the middle of the night by more of Astarion’s “siblings” paying a surprise visit. Tragedy and Astarion had done their best to talk them down, into either leaving or agreeing to help them, but Cazador’s hold over them was too strong, and a fight had broken out. The necromancer hadn’t had a chance to distance herself from the melee, and one of the vampires had gotten a good slash in before retreating. Shadowheart had taken a few hits too, and was out of power for the day, so she’d been unable to heal Tragedy before returning to bed. Thus, Astarion, first aid. The vampire was skilled with a needle, and Tragedy trusted him with her body more than she’d trust the rest of her companions, besides Shadowheart.
Astarion continued to dab delicately at her shoulder, the pain causing the tiefling to wince and breathe through her clenched teeth, but she did her best to stay still. Her tail flicked agitatedly with each dab of the cloth, but her body didn’t move - Astarion’s gentle hand on her arm helped with that.
“Hey, Astarion?” Tragedy’s eyes were trained on her hands in her lap, nervous about the conversation she was starting. “Why did you lie to them? That ritual will kill them, you know that.” She glanced over at her lover, but he didn’t meet her eyes. His gaze was firmly focussed on his task.
“They don’t need to know that. Better to think they stand a chance, it will make them all the more willing to aid me. Then, I can take the ritual for myself.” The vampire’s red eyes were hard, determined. It made Tragedy nervous.
“... Are you really going to go through with it? Are you prepared to sacrifice them all? They’re still your family, fucked up family though it may be- ah!”
Tragedy let out a small cry of pain as Astarion pressed harder with the cloth. His brief anger softened when he realised he was hurting her, and his touch was gentle once more, but there was still a sharp edge to his voice when he spoke.
“It’s not like they’re good people, Tragedy. They’ve lured just as many victims back for Cazador as I have. The city will be better off without them.” Astarion finished cleaning Tragedy’s wound, and began rummaging in the first aid kit for a needle and thread, being careful to sanitise them both with more alcohol before bringing them to her shoulder.
“But you’ve been given a chance to redeem yourself, surely they deserve the same? If we just kill Cazador, maybe they could do something good with their freedom.” Tragedy’s hands were weaving around each other nervously in her lap. She knew it was a bad idea to ask all this while Astarion had a needle aimed at her shoulder, but she felt it needed to be said, and this might be her last chance.
Astarion laughed, a cold, disbelieving laugh as he plunged the needle into Tragedy’s flesh, causing her to wince in pain and bite her tongue to keep from crying out. “Darling, I highly doubt my siblings would be interested in anything you’d consider ‘good’.” His hands made easy work of her cut, deftly sewing the skin back together with neat, even stitches. “No, they’ll be much more useful for ascending me, for granting me my freedom.”
This attitude scared Tragedy. She knew Astarion was capable of good. She knew ascending using Cazador’s ritual wouldn’t free him, it would only trap him in the cycle of abuse he was trying to break himself out of. But he was scared, and he was refusing to listen to her pleas, because at that moment, he truly believed the only way he could be safe and happy was if he was so powerful that no one could ever hurt him again.
“I just… I worry that this isn’t the right choice. Morally or personally.”
“You want me to be happy, don’t you, love?” Astarion paused his sewing for a moment, his fingers leaving some of Tragedy’s own blood on her chin as he turned her head to meet his gaze. The fear he was trying to hide was clear in his eyes, but it was also accompanied by a pleading sadness.
“I- yes. I do.” Tragedy dropped her gaze, not wanting her lover to see the doubt in her eyes. There was no getting through to him right now. She just hoped she would be able to convince him when the moment came.
“Then help me. This ritual will make me happy, I promise. Astarion let go of her chin, using his sleeve to wipe away the blood he’d left there. Tragedy was silent as she allowed Astarion to finish stitching up her wound, both relieved and disappointed when he started packing up the first aid kit and lifted himself from her mattress.
“Alright, you’re all patched up. Take a healing potion before you go to sleep, and you should be good as new in the morning. Goodnight, love.” Astarion leaned down to give Tragedy a quick kiss and a reassuring smile. She returned the smile with a forced one of her own, before downing a potion and settling down to rest.
Dreading the events of the next day, when they were to face down Cazador once and for all, Tragedy fell into a restless sleep. Her dreams were filled with glowing red eyes, glistening white fangs, and blood. So much blood. She would not get much quality rest tonight.

Embry Call x Reader
5058 words
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Most of my life has been spent in the Forks area so getting to travel to Europe for six months to see the art and culture was a dream come true. The past four months I’ve been travelling through Europe, starting in Greece and ending my trip in the Irish countryside.
The old art and architecture filled me with a joy that I could not get anywhere else in the world. The smells, sounds and sights all played their own part into the experience. I got to see the moon rise over Mount Olympus, the David by Michelangelo in the Vatican, tour through the Louvre, drink wine on the beaches of France and so much more. I’ve been living my best life.
It's been a dream to see the world, I've met so many new people and tried so much food. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my trip, but there was a part of me that longed for the beaches of La Push.
That part is Embry. Embry Call. My boyfriend, my pal, my love and my light. To me Embry is my everything and to him I’m his everything. That is one thing that has been made perfectly clear the past four months I’ve been away. Every day he’s told me he misses me and I know he means it, I’ve been told not just by him but also the rest of the pack.
Everyday I’ve woken up to ‘Good morning I miss you.” Sometimes he phones to tell me that he feels like he might die if I’m away for any longer. I always chuckle and tell him he will survive, it’s not like I’m going away forever; but that's what he feels like it is. This usually earns me a long winded whine from the other end of the line.
My phone buzzed against the smooth surface of the bedside table while Embry’s face flashed across my screen signalling that he’s calling. A smile graces my lips as I pick up the phone to be greeted with his loving voice.
“Hi (y/n)!! I miss you so much.” sadness was laced in his usual cheery greeting, it hurt my heart to be away from him but I would never trade this experience for anything. I’ve been planning this for years and I wasn’t going to pass up cheap plane tickets.
He filled me in on the pack's shenanigans, complaining about how they keep teasing him for being glued to his phone awaiting any updates I would send him. The later it got the heavier my eyelids seemed to feel, my speech started to slur with exhaustion of time zones while Embry continued to become more energetic with each passing minute.
“Em. . .” A yawn interrupted me mid sentence, a low whine emanated from the phone as he knew I would want to get to bed to have the energy for the long trip I’ll embark on tomorrow for Ireland, which is my last stop. I’d be spending the remaining two months of my trip in the lush countryside.
“I think I should get to sleep, I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow.” I mumbled into the phone.
“But (y/n)!” he dragged out. I knew he wanted to talk longer but I physically cannot do it. Even though Embry and I don’t live together officially yet, we’d talk into the early morning till one of us fell asleep.
“But (y/n) what?” I dragged out the ‘a’ matching his whine.
“I miss you and want you to come home.” I could hear him pause over line before he continued.
“Besides, sleeping isn’t the same without you.”
I ran my hand through my hair gently tugging on the roots easing the tension that’s built up over my trip. As much fun as I’ve had, he does have a point. Sleeping just isn’t the same without Em. My nights have been spent restless in beds that aren’t mine without the comforting touch of my boyfriend; but that doesn’t mean I can just drop everything and go back home.
“Em you know I can’t just pack everything and go home. . .” I looked at the painting that hung over the tv that sat opposite of my bed. A puppy-like whimper fell from his lips when he spoke again, his voice cracked like he was going to cry. It broke my heart hearing him upset.
“I-I know I just really miss you.”
“I know Embry I miss you too, but it’s only two more months then I’ll be home.”
We chatted for ten more minutes before I fell asleep on the phone. As much as I missed falling asleep in his warm embrace I can’t just fly back home, not yet at least.
The blaring of my alarm woke me from my slumber. The clock face read 6:02 a.m. taking everything within myself to peel back the blankets that encased me in their warm grip. I patted through the bed sheets to find my phone only to knock it onto the floor in the process.
My lock screen adorned a photo of Embry with icing smudged across his face from his birthday party but a swamp of text messages from the pack covered my favourite photo of him. Five texts from Leah, seven from Jake, nine texts from Paul, 12 texts and two missed calls from Sam and a whole group chat titled ‘(y/n) come home.’
The group chat kept pinging with the members of the pack who were still awake discussing the logistics of flying out to Ireland to take me back home. Was Embry really causing that much strife in the pack for them to create a group chat? Knowing him, it couldn’t be too far from the truth.
Leah and I call once a week to check in and make sure the other is doing okay since I left. It’s one of my favourite parts of the week being able to have a one on one with someone sensible. Every week she fills me in on Embry begrudgingly, she does it because she knows it makes me happy which I appreciate.
Reading through her texts she didn’t say much in regards to Em’s behaviour the only message relating to him was “come get your man child please, he’s getting snot on the floor.”
I listened through Sam’s voice mails which were begging me to come home, he informed me that once Em knew I was asleep he started moping around Emily’s house again for the fourth consecutive night in a row. This was news to me.
The texts entailed that Embry was becoming a pain on patrol and that Paul ‘couldn’t take another minute of the incessant whining.’ I told them the same thing I told Embry; I’m not dropping everything and rushing back home to sooth the wails of a love sick boy. There isn’t much I can do from across the ocean anyway.
I stretched my body and headed towards the bathroom to brush my teeth and shower before I had to leave for the airport.
I packed the few remaining things I left out to prepare for the flight and headed my way to the lobby to check out. I enjoyed travelling but I wasn’t going to miss sleeping in hotels and hostels.
Two weeks have passed since I touched down in Ireland and to say I’ve been having the time of my life is an understatement; I’ve been having a ball living my best life.
The land was capped in a luscious emerald green sea of grass that waved in the wind, the roads were lined with hand built stone walls that marked the division of farmers fields.
Sheep and cattle grazed in pastures, and old castles dotted the countryside. It was gorgeous. It was a view that I wanted to see again, a view I want to see with Embry.
It felt like time was flying by between sight seeing, trail hiking, museum tours and calls with Embry and Leah. It has already been a month. I had one more month before I was to jet set back to the U.S. and see my Embry.
One more month before I was back in La Push surrounded by the scent of sea water and trees with the looming threat of rain constantly overhead except in the summer. For two months of the year La Push was bright and sunny with the expected summer storms that happened.
I had fallen asleep on the phone with Embry again when I realized my phone was lost in the sea of sheets as it buzzed with an incoming phone call.
I couldn’t find it until the call had gone to voicemail and my phone landed on the ground when I gave up and ripped the blankets off of the bed but whoever called must have felt it was really important. Picking up my phone the most unflattering photo of Jacob was plastered on the screen, his name in white.
“Hello?” I asked groggily into the phone, rubbing the sleep from my eyes. I looked over at the clock which said in bold red numbers 1 am.
“Hey (y/n)! You sound like you just woke up.” I heard him chortle from the other end.
“That’s because I just woke up Jake, it’s one in the morning.” a yawn escaped my lips, I know I’ll have a rough time getting over jet lag when I go home.
He occupied twenty minutes with idle chatter and borderline interrogation about all the sights I’ve seen before I asked him why he was calling me so early in the morning
“Embry has spent the week at my house, you need to come home there’s nothing we can do anymore to occupy him till you return.” He sighed, Jake knows I want to finish my trip but we made a deal that I would come home early if there were absolutely no options left to keep Embry from sending the pack into hysterics.
I knew he was buttering me up for something.
“Are you sure you can’t figure something out? It’s just another month!”
“Another month of him eating my cereal and getting dirt on me from my dad!”
I snorted with laughter at the fact that Billy was telling Embry every embarrassing detail from his childhood.
“Jake please just let me think about it okay?” I sighed, flopping back into my hollowed cave of blankets and sheets.
“Okay, I’ll let you think about it but don’t think I won’t be telling Sam.” he warned.
We laughed together and he wished me a good night before hanging up the phone, before I slipped back into slumber I sent Jake one more text.
‘You wake me up at one in the morning again and it’s over for you.’ in which he responded with ‘Oh no I’m so scared lol.’
I reached over to the bedside table and plugged my phone in before the sweet embrace of warmth and slumber took over my senses.
The next three days I was bombarded with texts from Paul whining about the wolf mind link and how every patrol shift he had with Embry was spent tuning out his constant thoughts of me.
Standing in the shower with hot water running over my skin soothing my tense muscles I heard my phone buzz against the granite countertop. I rolled my eyes and continued to bask in the endless hotel hot water.
As bad as staying in hotels could be, the hot water made up for the early breakfast and sheets that were tucked in a little too tightly.
I had shampoo in my hair when my phone started buzzing again, this time with a call. I grumbled under the stream of water washing away the soap before it could get in my eyes; whoever's calling can wait.
I moved on to conditioning my hair, letting it sit while I wash the rest of my body with a lightly scented lavender soap.
I refused to use the complimentary soap because it dried out my skin and the lotion just left me feeling sticky instead of moisturized.
Watching the soap run down the drain my phone rang again, I clenched my fists, who could possibly be calling me now? I still refused to get out of my steamy heaven to answer my phone.
My gut told me that whoever was calling wouldn’t let up until I answered. I washed out the conditioner from my hair and wrapped it in a towel.
The mirror was coated in a layer of steam, the tiles were cool against my feet. I wrapped the plush towel around my body, mopping up the droplets of water that remained.
My phone started vibrating with rapid fire text messages from the pack’s group chat they made a month ago. I sighed, picking it up to sift through the messages. I read a message from Jared telling me he’d pay me to return.
The pack always made me laugh, together they’re a walking sitcom. There is never a dull moment with them, someone always had something witty or sarcastic to say.
I checked to see who had called me and it turned out it was Sam, I listened to his voice mails and immediately phoned him back.
As soon as I hit the call button it only rang for half a second before he picked up.
“Thank you for calling back, I thought I’d have to call two more times.” he chuckled.
“Well I was in the middle of a shower, can’t really take a call there.” I moved through the room with my phone pressed between my shoulder and cheek. Stopping at my suitcase to pick out what I was going to wear for the day.
“I’m going to be frank with you, I need you to come home. . .” I let out a huff before he continued.
“Embry needs you badly, he’s just a pile of mush on the floor now. It’s a chore to get him up to go on patrol. Please?”
“Fine, I’ll see what I can do Sam, I’ll try to book a flight for the earliest date I can find.” I knew I was giving in but from what they were telling me and the constant texts were getting to be difficult to manage.
“Thank you, when you get back I’ll buy you take out for a month okay?”
“I hate that you know what my weakness is.” I laughed through the phone, a month of free take out? Hell yeah. It made the prospect of going back a little brighter since I wasn’t going to complete the rest of my trip.
I wasn’t losing out on too much though, I had seen and done everything that I wanted. It wouldn’t be too bad to go home early.
We talked for a couple more minutes before parting ways, I threw my phone on the bed and watched it bounce a couple times before turning my attention back to getting dressed. Since I had a flight to book it was okay to spend the rest of the day lounging in pj’s.
The soft fabric of my pj’s brushed against my skin as I jumped into bed with my computer in hand, and now it was time to book a flight back home. Maybe text Paul and tell him he can quit complaining as well.
I woke up the next morning with my flight booked for take off in the afternoon and my daily good morning text from Embry. I felt a little sad to be leaving such a beautiful country but the trees, ocean and Embry all called my name.
Pacing through the room I grabbed the comfiest set of clothes I packed for my return flight back to Seattle, I had enough time to sleep on the plane to be conscious enough for the three and a half hour drive back to La Push.
I was set for a long day ahead of me but it was going to be worth it in the end, seeing the bright and happy face of my boyfriend, getting to hug him and kiss him again.
I made one last check of the room before I gathered my clothes and toiletry kit and made my way into the bathroom to shower before my long flight. As I was stepping into the shower my phone pinged from the counter with a text from Sam.
“Have you booked that flight yet?” it read.
“Yeah I’m due for take off at 1. I should be back in La Push some time tomorrow!”
My fingers brushed the cool surface of the counter top as I put my phone back and got into the shower, hot water immediately running down my back; this time my phone wasn’t being blown up by a desperate wolf pack trying to get my attention.
I can’t sit in the shower for hours on end this time, I have a flight to catch and a boy to surprise. Embry was currently still under the impression that I would be coming home in two weeks. Boy would he be in for a surprise.
The residual steam wafted out of the bathroom while I brushed my teeth revealing my towel wrapped body and hair in the mirror behind the skin. I checked the time and noted that I had two hours to check out, make my way to the airport, and check into my flight back home. Two more hours before I could smell the trees and ocean, two more hours before I could see my friends and hug Embry.
The time managed to move by in a blur by the time I was shutting the trunk of the yellow cab that was going to drop me off at the airport. I got into the back seat and the driver peeled away from the hotel front onto the winding roads.
“Aye where are you headin’?” The driver inquired in a thick Irish accent.
One thing I noticed in my stay here was that the accent changed in every town or village I passed through. It added to the charm
“Well, I’m on my way home after spending six months in Europe.” My eyes scanned over the green hills that rushed past in a blur.
“My favourite places I’ve been have definitely been Ireland and Greece.” I smiled towards him.
The lines around his eyes crinkled with the smile that graced his face at the mention of Ireland.
“Well that’s good to hear innit? Glad you’ve enjoyed your stay. We welcome ya with open arms if you return.”
We held a light conversation until we arrived in front of the drop off area for passengers, thanked him and grabbed my bags before heading into the crowded lobby.
The front of the terminal was metal and glass that reached towards the heavens with automatic doors gaping open like a mouth. Inside was a dull white with light grey floor which my shoes clicked against with each step.
It was packed with people like a can of sardines, I weaved my way through the masses towards the check in desk which thankfully only had a short line to get through.
Under the mix of fluorescents and natural light the desk lady’s bags that donned under her eyes glared with visible exhaustion from the mass amounts of people that swarmed the terminal.
Despite her clear drowsiness she still greeted me with a warm smile and a soft hello.
I grabbed my ticket and thanked her then turned and pushed myself through to the security check, dropped my luggage off and took a seat to wait for the boarding call for my flight.
As I waited grey clouds started to fill the sky blocking out the little sun that was once shining in its place.
My eyes grew heavier by each minute that passed, waiting could be hard, but waiting in an airport where there’s no sense of time is worse. So I distracted myself by people watching.
A lady was bouncing her baby, the old man across from me was snoring. A businessman paced back and forth speaking urgently into his phone, a family chatted excitedly for their family trip to the Canary Islands.
I pulled my eyes away from them as the call for my flight rang out over the crowded terminal, grabbing my suitcase and making my way towards the gate.
Excitement filled my every step as the anticipation grew and bubbled inside me. I gave the greeting flight attendant a small smile and made my way to my seat, for being last minute I managed to get a window seat.
We sat on the tarmac for twenty minutes before taking off and before I knew it the seat belt light pinged off and I was fast asleep jet setting my way back to America, back to my home.
I couldn’t tell what time it was when I woke up but the clock on the tv screen said 2 a.m. and that we’re due to arrive in an hour. I sat up in my seat and gazed out the window into the starry night sky.
Energy started to course through me as I watched the arrival time tick closer and closer. A light rain misted down over Seattle as I left the Seatac terminal and made my way through the maze of cars in the night that was made darker by the rain.
I spotted my blue Subaru and popped the trunk so my interior and seats wouldn’t get wet. It had been a long six months since I last sat in my driver's seat, the wheel almost felt foreign in my hands as I turned the key and listened to the engine roar to life.
I drove through the winding roads of the city to the Seattle-Bainbridge Ferry to take the 45 minute ride into Bainbridge and headed North to get on the 101 then turn onto 110 which would take me back into the heart of La Push.
The closer I got to Forks the brighter the sky became; well as bright as it could be on a gloomy day. The clouds became painted in the glow of purple and pink as the sun rose over the horizon, the rain had let up and left me with an overcast sky for the remainder of the drive back.
Since I slept virtually the entire flight back I didn’t feel the weight of exhaustion at all, but surely when I arrived back in the arms of Embry I knew I’d hit the wall with sleep deprivation.
As I barreled through the corridor of trees I passed the signature ‘welcome to Forks’ sign and turned right onto the 110, twenty minutes to home. I was so close but my soul felt like it was light years away.
The clock on my radio told me that it was currently 6:45, the pinks and purples that coated the sky faded away to the typical grey that fills my senses with delight. Sea salt and washed up kelp started to seep into the air that circulated into my car making the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
Closer to Beach Drive I got the stronger the smell of the ocean became. The turn signal clicked as I turned onto the road that gave way to Sam and Emily’s house so they could take me over to Embry’s in the off chance that he happened to be awake at this hour.
It’s highly unlikely that he would be up at this hour but it’s not something I could be one hundred percent positive about. I stepped out of my car and turned around to see Emily running as fast as she possibly could towards me with open arms and a huge smile plastered across her face.
Dropping my bags I dashed across their lawn into her embrace.
“Oh (y/n)! I missed you so much, you must be so tired.” She released me from her hug and settled her hands on my shoulders giving them a gentle squeeze.
“I missed you too Emily, I knew I’d be tired but not this tired.” I chuckled while wiping at my under eyes in a feeble attempt to wipe away the exhaustion.
She put her hand on my lower back and led me inside for the awaiting cup of tea while Sam moved my bags into his truck.
The warmth of their home embraced me, the comfort of their kitchen was familiar. The only thing missing was the rowdy group of boys that made up the pack who usually occupied every available seat in the home.
I took a seat at the kitchen table where three cups of tea sat waiting, I should have expected a q and a when I returned. Wrapping my hands around the mug the warmth that radiated from it filled my hands.
Emily took a seat beside me and Sam entered through the door and sat adjacent to both of us.
“So how was the trip?” We sat around their table chatting until our cups were empty and filed out of the house into the early morning air.
“Emily and I will drive your car back to your place after I drop you off at Embry’s, the kid’s been sleeping in my living room more often than I’d appreciate.” Sam’s eyes crinkled with a smile, I knew he was joking but at the same time there was truth to his words; and honestly I couldn’t blame him.
“Thank you for putting up with him while I was gone, I owe you guys one and you owe me take out for a month.” He rolled his eyes and ruffled my hair turning into the Call's driveway. Embry’s mom had already left for work leaving him to his own devices; which meant he would sleep in as late as his heart desired.
We got out of Sam’s truck and he dropped my bags on the doorstep. I turned and gave him a quick hug and a thank you before sticking my key into the lock.
The door creaked open and I dragged my suitcases to a stop in their front entry way and shut it behind me.
My shoes landed on the floor with a soft thud and I gingerly walked up the stairs to ensure I wasn’t too noisy while making sure to avoid the one squeaky stair.
I got to the top of the stairs and hung a left down their light beige hallway that gave way to the oak door that guarded Embry’s room. His soft snores filtered through the door, it’s door knob was cool in my hand. Making an audible click with the turn of my wrist.
Dark mahogany brown hair peaked up from beneath the sheet that tucked Embry’s body out of view. One pillow was on the floor while the other was tucked firmly between his cheek and arm, I smiled at the sight of my sleeping boyfriend which filled my every inch with the utmost joy.
My sock covered feet pressed into the carpeted flooring with each step I took towards his bed making sure to step over the piles of dirty clothes that were scattered around the room.
The sun filtered through the gaps in the window blinds casting pools of golden light on the floor and along his walls causing the crystal prism that hung above his closet to sweep dashes of colour across his walls.
I pulled back the grey top sheet to reveal his peaceful face and I swear my heart was going to burst with the amount of love that I feel for him. His hair was tousled in every direction and a cow lick stuck straight up on the left side of his head.
My hands ran over his hair, smoothing it out while I whispered his name. Embry groaned a bit and rolled over, I whispered his name a little bit louder and moved my hands from his hair to his shoulders running them along his arms finally waking him from his slumber.
“Hi Em!” I gushed out as his brown eyes opened and focused on me. His face split with his toothy smile and his arms shot around me, pulling me down into his chest.
“Do you know how much I missed you?” Embry mumbled into my hair.
“I figured a lot with the amount of texts I got from the pack.” I reached up brushing the hair from his face.
“You can never leave me for that long again. . .I didn’t know what to do without you here.” He ran his hands through my hair placing a gentle kiss upon the top of my head.
“I was so worried about you. I couldn’t protect you and make sure you were safe.”
“Well next time I’ll make sure you can come, then you don’t have to worry.” Craning my neck up I placed a kiss upon his lips which were still a bit swollen from slumber.
“The important thing is that I returned safe and in one piece. The other important thing is I get to spoil you with the gifts I brought back!”
His laugh filled the room sending vibrations through my body.
“Hey! That’s my job to spoil you, not the other way around.” He ruffled my hair causing us both to laugh. I peeled off my socks and wiggled my way under his blanket.
“I think it’s time we catch up on six months worth of cuddling.” I poked a finger into his side.
“Yeah I think that’s a good idea, you owe me for being gone so long.”
“What? I came back early!” His hands made their way under my shirt to rest on the bare skin of my back sending waves of heat through my body from being pressed into him. Oh how I missed my heater.
“Yeah, by like what? Two weeks?” his silky voice chuckled out.
“I missed you Embry.” I told him, placing a kiss on his exposed shoulder.
“I missed you too. Now let's go back to sleep, you look tired.” He said to me as he rested his chin atop my head and pulling me closer.
You had never considered yourself as someone jealous, you believed it was an awful feeling, irrational. But you couldn't help the sense of discomfiture forming in the pit of your stomach when there was evidence for you to feel that way. Bucky has been on a mission with Natasha for two weeks, this was the first time the two were sent alone. In the beginning, you didn’t worry about it because- you were aware of the past your boyfriend and the black widow shared, but Bucky had always assured you that it was in the past and he didn't see her as anything more than a friend. He made sure to show you every day how in love he was with you, and you didn’t remember the last time you felt this happy with someone.
But this mission changed everything.
Bucky usually calls you to check on you, even if he’s busy he always finds a way to text or call you, but this time he hadn’t even answered you. You got worried at first, millions of thoughts of what could have happened racing in your mind, but when Natasha contacted Tony to assure him they were okay, all you could wonder was why hadn't your boyfriend contacted you.
You gave him the deficit of the doubt and tried not to take his avoidance the wrong way but when they came back, he went straight to his room without even sparing a glance your way. What game was he playing at? What has happened on that mission to make your boyfriend act this way?
“You should go to talk to him,” Wanda advised  “I’m sure there’s a reason for him acting this way”
“Oh yeah? And what is it?” you scoffed.
You were in Wanda’s bedroom. She was your best friend, always supporting you when you needed it, this time was no different.
“Y/N, you know Bucky. He’s not that kind of guy. I’m sure there’s a reason. Stop being stubborn and go to talk to him”
You looked at her; she was giving you the “mom look”. You sighed. You loved Bucky, and you didn’t want to lose him. There had to be a reason, right? You knew he loved you, he even said he wanted to grow old and have a future with you.
You get up from Wanda’s bed. “You’re right,” You walked out of your friend’s bedroom and made your way to your boyfriend’s room. When you reached the corner of his hallway, you hear a door opening and people laughing. You put your head out the corner and you saw Natasha on the doorstep of your boyfriend’s bedroom. He was there too. Shirtless. She laughed at something he said and you didn’t catch and she smacked his right arm in a joking way. He was laughing too. You had never seen your boyfriend laugh that way with anyone other than you. Or Steve. And maybe Sam. But with Natasha? Never. Also, he hated when people invaded his personal space and touched him without permission.
You huffed as tears pricked at the back of your eyes and made your way back to your friend’s bedroom. Once there, you closed the door and slid to the floor. All the anger you once had turning bitterly into sadness, poisoning every fiber in your being. Tears started to blossom on your eyes and sliding through your cheeks. Wanda ran towards you and embraced you in her arms, asking what had happened, stroking your hair, in an attempt of calming you.
Sobbing you tried to tell her what you saw, the more you cried the hard it was talking and breathing for you. Wanda got you up from the floor and walked you to her bed, she cupped your face in her hands and wiped the tears from your cheeks.
“Breath, Y/N” She breathed in and on with you until you calmed a little.
You didn’t understand how he could do this to you. After all the things you had done for him. All the panic attacks, all the nightmares, and the sleepless nights you shared with him. And that is the way he repaid you? Going on your back with your friend?
And Nat, you had trusted her, the countless times you had told her things you would say to anyone, she was your friend and she assured she felt nothing for him anymore. She assured what happened between her and Bucky was done. You feel betrayed by two of the most important people in your life.
If he wasn’t happy with you, he could have told you. Yes, it would have hurt, but not much hurt as the one you were feeling right now.
“Are you sure that was what you saw? Maybe you misinterpreted it,” Wanda was trying to help, knowing Bucky and Natasha, it was impossible to think they would do such a thing to you.
“Wanda, if you saw Vis shirtless laughing at night with another woman in his bedroom, and this woman is touching him, what would you think? How can you misinterpret that?” It wasn’t about being open-minded, permissive, or controlling. It was about respect. There are things you don’t do if you are in a relationship with someone. He was out a lot of nights with Sam and Steve, and you were okay with that. You didn’t mind if he has girl-friends. But what you saw today and his attitude towards you in the last two weeks was something you could not ignore.
Wanda paused for a moment, thinking about what to say to you to make you feel better “Well…if they’re really doing this to you, then fuck them. They don’t deserve you,” your friend stated, “this defines them, but not you.”
You sniffled wiping your nose with the back of your hand. Your eyes were red from crying and they started to hurt. “Can I sleep here tonight?”
You usually slept with Bucky, either you went to his room or he came to yours. But tonight that wasn’t an option. Possibly, that wouldn’t be an option anymore.
“Of course,” She wasn’t going to leave you alone when you were going through such a hard time. You had always been there for her, and now she was going to be there for you.
When Pietro died, and she came to the Avengers Compound you were the first one to came and check up on her, you didn’t ask her how she was feeling, that was a stupid and obvious question, you just stay there with her, offering your support. And from that moment she knew you were going to be a very important part of her life.
“Now try to sleep. If you don’t rest, you won’t heal”
Tumblr media
The next day came sooner than you would have wanted to. The sunlight coming through the windows made you rub your eyes.
“How did you sleep?” Wanda was lying next to you, she had just woken up a few seconds before you.
“Not my best night,” You sat up in bed and rubbed your temples.
You felt her hand on your shoulder and you looked at her “I’m with you, okay?” You’re not alone,” She gave you a reassuring smile.
You were going to have to face Bucky and Natasha, and you weren’t prepared for that. When you reached the kitchen, you could hear their laughs again. The same laughs from last night. You took a deep breath and pursed your lips, trying to suppress the tears that were starting to form in your eyes. Not again. Not in front of them.
When your boyfriend noticed your presence, he turned his attention towards you, a wide smile spread on his face. “Hey, doll” He started to make his way to you “I went to your room last night but you weren’t there” Was he seriously like he didn’t ignore you for two weeks and yesterday acted like you didn’t exist? What a scoundrel.
He hovered over you, trying to wrap his arms around you but you dodged him. A confused look formed on his face. “I slept with Wanda. You seemed very busy, didn’t want to bother you.” You didn’t let him answer, just made your wake to the counter to pour two coffee mugs, one for you and one for your best friend.
Everybody was wearing confused looks at your behavior, you had never acted this way towards Bucky; you were quite the opposite, always hugging, kissing, or holding hands. Your PDA was something that drove the team crazy sometimes, but they were happy for you. Acting like this set alarms on everybody’s head. What the hell happened between you two?
Tumblr media
Bucky tried to talk to you the whole day but managed to slip through his fingers. He wanted an explanation. He wanted to know what he had done to make you act this way towards him. You two were fine when he left on that mission, so what had happened in that two weeks he was gone?
He finally found his chance when he caught you alone in the gym. This time you wouldn’t walk away.
“Y/N,” his voice was firm but not harsh, “Can we talk, please?”
“I don’t have time” You kept punching the bag and ignoring his presence. That’s it. He had enough. He grabbed your arm and turned you to him. Face to face.
“What’s gotten into you?”
“Let me go” You pointed at your grabbed arm with your eyes and he let you go.
Bucky huffed. “What did I do?”
You looked at him perplexed. Was he being serious?  “Are you really asking me that?”
“Y/N, honestly. I don’t know what I did.”
“You didn’t call, and neither answered any of my texts.”
“Really? That’s why you are mad? My phone broke and I couldn’t contact you”
You chuckled. What a lame excuse. “Of course. What about Nat then? You could have asked for her phone”
He frowned. “I told her to text to you, to tell you I was okay”
“Well, she didn’t”
“Maybe she forgot. I don’t know. It’s not much of a deal”
You were starting to get exasperated. He didn’t get it.
“You know what, Bucky? Fuck you!” That was the last thing you said to him before you left the gym. Wanda was right. He didn’t deserve you, and he didn’t deserve your tears either.
Tumblr media
You didn’t hear of Bucky for the rest of the day. Now you were sitting in your bed, a framed picture of the two of you in your hands. Your eyes started burning. You missed him. You didn’t want to miss him. You two were happy, didn’t you? You didn’t understand what you had done wrong.
You hear a knock on your door, you put the frame down on your bed and wiped your eyes. “Come in”
The door of your bedroom opened to let you see who you used to consider a friend. What was she doing here?
“Get out” you got up from bed abruptly and pointed at the door. Natasha looked at you shocked.
“Y/N, w-” you didn’t let her finish her sentence.
“OUT. NOW.” But she didn’t budge. She just stayed there, looking at you. You finally got tired and pushed her out of your bedroom.
“Y/N, Calm down. I just wanna talk to you” You didn’t answer, closing the door in her face.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y.” you called the AI system.
“Yes? Miss Y/N.”
“I don’t want anyone in my room. Don’t let anyone in. Only Wanda.”
“Alright. Miss Y/N. Do you want me to let Miss Maximoff know that you want to see her?”
“Yes, please.”
F.R.I.D.A.Y did as you told, and a few minutes later you hear a knock at your door. “Y/N. It’s me” You opened the door and crashed into the arms of your best friend.
“Let’s get out of here. Please get me out of here.” The redhead looked at you worried.
“What happened?” she questioned.
“I don't wanna talk about it now. I just- I can’t be here”
Wanda looked at you sympathetically and wiped the tears off your face the same way she did last night.
“Okay,” she nodded “Let’s get out. We are going to have a girls day”
Tumblr media
When you came back to the compound it was late at night. You were stumbling, arm slugged on Wanda’s neck. You had drunk a little too much, trying to cop-out. Your mother always said that being drunk is the anesthesia of the fools.
“Best night EVER!” you yelled, raising your fist to the air.
Wanda hushed you. You were going to wake up the rest of the team. “Wan, you're so hot.” you keep babbling, Wanda laughed, she was going to make sure to remind you this night tomorrow. “I love you soooooo much”
“I love you too, Y/N”
“You’re like my best best friend”
“You drank too much, Y/N. You need to sleep”
You shook your head, “No, no Imma go talk to him”
Wanda dragged to your best. “You’re going to sleep. You can talk to Bucky tomorrow”
“NOW!”
“Now you’re going to sleep” Wanda stated, getting tired of your drunk state. You looked at her, she looked so intimidating, you nodded like a scared puppy and did as she told. The moment your body hit your bed you fell asleep. “You’ll thank me tomorrow,” She said before stepping out of your room.
Tumblr media
Sunlight streams golden through the window. You raised your heavy eyelids halfway only for them to fall shut again. The aching in your skull ebbs and flows like a cold tide. Now you understand why they call it a hangover. Perhaps some painkillers would help.
You hear a knock on your door, you groaned and wrapped yourself in your duvet, hoping that whoever was out the door would just go away. But the knock persists, louder each time.
Once on your feet the room swayed, almost causing you to lose balance and you reached for the wall. This feeling made you think you had to have fun last night but somehow it wasn’t in your memory.
The reflection on the mirror in the wall shows no sign of the glamour girl of last night. You rubbed your eyes before opening the door.
“Wanda told me you would need this,” Bucky handed some painkillers and a glass of water in his hands. The cracking in your head and your dry mouth were too strong to ignore them and to kick out your boyfriend. You took the pill from his hand and threw them in your mouth followed by the glass of water.
“Fun night?” he asked, entering the room and closing the door.
“You could say that”
Bucky sat in your bed as you went into the bathroom. “You never handed alcohol well,” he chuckled under his breath.
“Bucky, what do you want?” you asked tiredly
“You and I have a pending conversation”
You sighed. “Now it’s not the best moment. Besides, I look awful”
“You always look beautiful,” he said softly, walking carefully to you, he brushed a piece of hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear.
“Don't do this. Not now.” you closed your eyes, melting under his touch.
“Don’t do what? Telling you how I feel?”
“What happened between you and Nat?” you finally asked, the alcohol remaining in your system putting your defenses down. You didn’t want to fight. You just wanted to know. What Natasha had that you hadn’t?
Your question didn’t startle Bucky, not shocked him either. Little you know, Wanda had gone to his room last night, after she made sure you were asleep to question Bucky about his behavior towards you on the last few weeks. She cared for you, so much. You were like a sister to her, and she wouldn’t let anyone take advantage of you or make you feel like you weren’t worthy.
“There’s nothing between me and Natasha. I promise.” he said sincerely “I’m in love with you.”
“Then why didn’t you call or text me? Two weeks, Bucky. I hadn't heard from you in two weeks. You had me worried. We always call and text each other when we are on a mission”
“I told you, my phone broke. I told Nat to text you, I don’t know why she didn’t do it. I’m sorry”
You looked down. Bucky has never lied to you, and he has never given you a motive to mistrust him.
“What about the day you came? You ignored me the whole day”
“I was tired. All I wanted was to clean up and rest.”
“With Natasha?” you inquired
He looked at you confused, not knowing what you were talking about. “I went to your room that night, Natasha was there and you were shirtless”
He rubbed his face. “Oh, Y/N. That doesn’t mean what you think,” you looked at him, waiting for him to explain himself  “She just came to check up on me, I just came out of the shower, she didn’t even come in”
“You were laughing, though.”
“And you think that means I cheat on you? You always laugh with Steve and Sam. And I don’t think you are cheating on me with them. Why is Natasha any different?”
“Because-” you were ashamed of showing your insecurities to Bucky. “she had you first.” You couldn’t help to compare yourself to your friend, she was prettier, she was smart. She was everything you were not.
“And you have me now,” he cupped your face “And I want you forever.”
Bucky bent down and closed the gap between you. Finally feeling his lips in yours and- oh god. How have you missed the way he feels. He kissed you with so much gentleness like you were going to break any minute, but that wasn’t what you wanted right now; you needed to let him know that you were there, you wanted to feel every part of his body against yours and reassure yourself that he wasn’t going anywhere. You knotted your fists in his shirt, pulling him closer if that was even possible. He groaned, his hands firmly on your hips and lips agape. When you pulled away you smiled and touched his lips with your fingers. “I’ve missed you.”
“Missed you too, doll,” he said circling his arms around you making his way towards your bed until you hit the mattress, his body hovering over yours. “We have so much time to make up to.”
AN | I am apparently back in my Din feels because this...made me soft 🥺
Warnings | None
Pairing | Din x GN!Reader
Masterlist | Din, Main
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
When Din woke up, it wasn’t because he was startled out of slumber by the little one, or an intruder - no. This was a much more pleasant way to wake up - to the smell of something delicious cooking. He rubbed his bleary eyes, almost as if making sure he was actually awake or just having a very realistic dream. Upon slowly sitting up and letting his feet hit the padded floor of the small bedroom, he discovered that it was all very much real.
A groan escaped his lips as he stretched and reached for a shirt to throw on before making his way down the kitchen. Despite having revealed his face to you, it seemed almost more intimate to reveal the rest of his body to you. Opening the door, half-expecting to see his green son, he was surprised to find nothing, but he did hear you in the kitchen.
Slowly shuffling his way down the hallway, a smile tugged on the corners of his mouth. You were so absorbed in what you were doing that you didn’t seem to hear him. He watched you for a moment, noticing that you had Grogu sitting at your feet, playing with one of his favorite little toys. You were cooking something, he wasn’t quite sure what it was, but it smelled delicious; he hadn’t even realized you’d have anything at the small refuge that could make something so delicious.
After a few moments, Grogu caught Din’s eye and cooed excitedly before slowly clambering over to him.
“What’s wrong?” you looked down at him, but he was quickly out of your sight, causing you to turn around and find Din watching you with a glimmer of amusement in his dark eyes, “oh! I didn’t even hear you - how long have you been up?”
“Not long,” he leaned down and scooped Grogu up in his arms before gently clutching him to his chest in a tender hug, "you've been busy...I didn't even know we had anything to make something that smells so...good."
"That's because we didn't," you admitted with a small sheepish little grin, "I got up early and went to the market to get stuff for all of our favorites!"
"You...what?!" his eyes widened in surprise as your blood froze in your veins. He definitely ….did not sound happy, "you went to the market by yourself?"
"Yes - but it was only for a little while this morning. All I did was get some food, I swear," you grew nervous as he took a step closer, "everything was fine! There’s no need to worry.”
“Did anyone follow you back?” he asked, trying to calm the seemingly millions of racing thoughts that suddenly sprung up. Din could tell that you were scared at his sudden shift in demeanor, but he was just so worried.
“No?” it was a small whimper that left your lips, “I don’t think so...why would someone follow me?”
“See, that’s what I mean-” he stopped himself, pinching the bridge of his nose as he sighed deeply. He wasn’t angry at you...it was just the worry and fear of not keeping you safe, “there are bad people hiding out in every corner of the galaxy. Even here, where it seems we’re safe for now. You can’t just trust people...if something had happened to you...I don’t know what I would do.”
“I just talked to the vendors, that’s all, I swear,” tears pricked at the back of your eyes as you backed up against the counter, “I can handle myself, at least for something so simple!”
“That’s just it, you can’t!” he’d never raised his voice like that against you and it was enough to just break you. A few tears rolled down your cheeks as you held back any comments, instead staring at the floor in silence, “it’s nothing against you. It’s just…”
“It’s fine,” you managed to choke out as you pushed past him to head back to your room. You didn’t even bother to turn off the stove or anything in your rush to get out. Din didn’t find it in himself to say anything as he watched you walk away. He hated himself in that moment for how he acted and had made you feel. He really did just want to keep you safe, that was his only intent, and yet he’d managed to even screw that up.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You dabbed at your eyes as you finished loading up your small pack. It was the dead of the night and you were desperately hoping that Din and Grogu were fast asleep so you could make a quiet exit.
You didn’t really want to leave, and you didn’t want to let go of either of them, but if Din really didn’t think you were capable of handling yourself for even such a menial task, then did he trust you at all? This was a dangerous life, and you’d known that from the very first day that you’d met Din. But here you were, still at his side. Maybe he’d never wanted you here anyway…maybe he was just being polite. Either way, from here on out, he wasn’t going to have to deal with you any longer. It felt heavy in your heart, but right now it seemed like the right decision.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The door creaked slightly as you shut it, and for a moment your heart almost stopped, sure that the bounty hunter would have heard it. After a few beats of silence when no sounds had met your ears, you decided that you were in the clear and headed out in the dark wood. It was a beautiful refuge during the day, but in the dead of night, it sent a shiver down your spine.
A few drops of rain left onto your face as you hugged, lugging your pack higher on your back. If you kept going through the night, by the morning you’d be at the transit depo and could make your way from this planet and away from your boys.
You turned around and cast a forlorn look back at the small house that had served as a home for a few months now. You'd come here for a much break from the hustle of real life; you'd never thought it would lead to this.
Deciding it was best to go, you'd let a long sigh before turning on your heel and walking away, listening to the soft crunch of gravel under your feet.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
Din woke up with a start, waking up in the middle of an odd dream. His chest rose and fell rapidly as he tried to steady breathing, wiping the sweat from his brow. He couldn’t place it exactly, but something was off. He hastily pushed back the blankets as he scrambled out of the bed and over to the small makeshift crib where Grogu was. The little one was sleeping soundly as he snoozed away, undisturbed by anything.
Huffing lightly, he opened the door to his room and walked down the hallway, pausing in front of your door. It was shut completely - a sure sign that something was up; you’d normally always kept it open just a crack. With his hand poised on the door handle, he paused to listen for any sounds, but when he didn’t hear anything, he slowly opened the door, whispering your name.
He looked around the room, his heart dropping into stomach as he realized that you were gone. Instinct kicked in and he ran out of the room and back to his, hastily reaching for any clothes he could find. Din didn’t even bother to make sure anything looked good, but finished with his boots and a blaster, grabbing Grogu gently and placing him in his bag. The child made a few sounds of discontent as he was suddenly woken up, but he too immediately sensed that something was wrong.
“Sorry,” he patted the top of little fuzzy head before throwing open the door and practically running out. By now, it was raining completely and he cursed him for not bringing an umbrella; but in reality it was the least of his concerns. He was able to quickly spot one of your boot prints in mud, and found your path from there. If he had nothing else going for him, at least he still had well honed skills as a hunter, “let’s go. We don’t have any time to lose.”
Grogu just made a worried little sound in response.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
It felt like you had been walking for hours and you left no nearer your destination than when you had started. But you had to keep walking - turning back wasn’t an option anymore. You heard something in the distance behind you, causing you to freeze in fear. Swallowing thickly, you decided to carry on without looking behind you.
But after a few beats, you kept hearing the same sounds and...was that your name? The hairs on your arm stood on end as you were positive that someone was calling your name. Your heart left like it was going to burst out of your chest as you stopped and slowly turned around.
An explosion of butterflies rumbled through your tummy as you spotted Din coming out of the wood, drenched as you were by the rain. An unreadable expression was on his face as he rushed toward you, Grogu poking his head out of the pouch and grinning when he realized it was. Your stomach flipped a little at the sight of your two favorite people as they came towards you. You raised your hand in a small wave, but rooted your feet on the ground.
“I found you...you’re safe,” he was breathless as he stopped in front of you, a small, hesitant smile tugging on his features, “I woke up and you were gone…”
“Yeah,” you managed to choke out as you shrugged lightly, “I figured...it might be better this way, I dunno. You said I couldn’t even handle myself, so I figured it’d be easier if I just took myself out of the equation.”
“I shouldn’t have said what I did,” he admittedly without pausing for even a moment, “I didn’t mean how it came out, and I’m sorry. I do think you can handle yourself and whatever you need, I can teach you. I feel like bantha fodder for what I said. I’m sorry.”
“‘s okay,” you whispered softly, “I was just thinking that maybe...maybe this is better for you. If it was just you and the kid. That way you don’t have to worry about me.”
“I want to worry about you,” he promised, causing you to look at him with eyes, a nervous expression on your face, “I...want to keep you safe. Here, with us.”
“Y-you do?” you met his eyes, finding them just as nervous as he tried to gauge your response.
“Yeah,” he laughed nervously, trying not to completely spill his heart onto his sleeve then and there. No - that could be saved for later, somewhere much warmer and dryer, “I shouldn’t have just reacted the way I did. And even if you don’t forgive me, I am truly sorry. I just had to tell you.”
“I forgive you,” a shy smile met his as you took his outstretched hand in yours, “I shouldn’t have reacted so dramatically either. I could have saved both of us from getting this wet...I...thank you for coming back for me.”
“I always will,” he squeezed your hand gently, “I promise.”
Petite!reader version part 1
Tumblr media
The village was alight, red ran rampant through the streets, the screams of young and old mixing to create a noise that would give anyone a headache. You were running as fast as you could, no shoes on, trying to pick up your skirts as you ran. You had been woken by a scream and hadn’t thought to put on shoes before you ran to escape the sea of arrows shot at your home. People dragged younger ones through the wreckage, others cried, others shouting for loved ones. Nobody seemed to be left unscathed.
Your feet were in tatters at this point, having ran through rocks and glass to get here. Your only motivation that got you this far, even with the pain you were in, was the orphanage at the top on town. On a slight hill further away from the village, secluded in a way. You hoped against hope the children were ok. You dodged through fire, adrenaline coursing through your veins. You had to make it. You had to keep them safe. Though in your blind panic you didn’t notice the figure stealthily following after you.
You were running up the hill now, twigs that littered the woods floor poking into your poor feet, causing you to slow slightly, but your determination kept you from walking. Just as the orphanage came into sight arms wrapped around your waist. You kicked in attempt to get away, hoping against hope you could escape, get to them. Those kids did nothing to deserve the pain. Your attempts did nothing but tire you more, your hope of escape starting to slip from your grasp. “Stay still dammit” a gruff voice stated. He moved you both back, further into the woods, blocking your view of the orphanage and kept you still.
“Oi Kirishima! Keep those idiots away from the orphanage” He called out further into the woods, not second later a muscular man with spiky hair and even spikier teeth seemed to appear in an instant and disappear just as quickly. With the disappearance of the other man he moved you so you could finally see his face, though his grip on you never loosened. If you were honest with yourself, he was rather pretty. Hard red eyes stared into yours and seemed to judge your appearance as you gaped at him. His blonde locks spiked out, much more naturally than the other mans, he had a defined jawline, and a look that screamed danger. In your curiosity you failed to notice how odd this whole situation was. Here you were being held down by an intimidation and rather frightening man, but you felt no fear towards him.
“Found you” he said, looking at you with a smirk as his face moved closer to yours. Just as you thought he was going to kiss you his face moved lower to your neck and started to pepper kisses and nips into the sensitive skin. You tensed in his hold, not sure what he was about to do, and scared for the outcome that seemed inevitable. Just then he roughly bit into your neck, causing you to shriek at the vast difference from what he was doing before and the pain that started to thump against your neck like a drum. When he was satisfied, he started to lick at your neck, no doubt cleaning up the blood. “There, now that’s sorted time to clean you up and get moving” He tightly grabbed a hold of your hand, pulling you close to his body. “If you try and run you wouldn’t like to know the fate of those kids you so wish to protect so behave.” You didn’t want to know what he could to, so you allowed him to pull you away from the orphanage.
He pulled you both down the hill and towards the town, he hadn’t told you his name and didn’t seem in the mood for light conversation, so you stayed quiet, not wanting to anger the man further than he already seemed to be. When you both got back to the village it was silent. A stark difference between the village you had left behind, and it set you on edge. He must have noticed how you had started to shake a little, though he didn’t say anything on it. “Hide you face into my back, quickly” he said, his voice slightly softer than earlier, though it didn’t stop the unease. Just as you opened your mouth to question it, he gave you a glare that made you close it instantly. You ducked your head down into his back behind him and tried to ignore the strares, questions swarming your mind. “right let’s move out” he shouted, his voice seeming even more loud now you were against his back, making you cringe slightly. With one hand now taking your weight he hoisted onto a horse, repositioning you in front of him to lean against his chest. “Get some sleep, its gonna be a long ride teddy bear”
When you woke you were still in his arms, though you were now wrapped up in a fur coat, keeping you warm from the wind. If you didn’t think about the fact he basically kidnapped you it could almost be sweet. He had positioned you in a way that meant the brunt of the wind was hitting against the fur coat, keeping you toasty warm. He was looking ahead, no doubt keeping control of the horse, though you did notice how he would glance down at you. Due to your position you couldn’t really see anything, giving in to the temptation of going back to sleep for now, who knew when you would be able to sleep again, you let your eyes closed and allowed yourself to relax, your head snuggling into his warm chest.
Your eyes fluttered open at a loud shout, startling you from the fragile sleep you had managed to get. “We’re almost there” He claimed, glancing down at your sleepy form curled into him. Cute. The thought was a fleeting one, but it made him freeze up slightly, he hoped you didn’t notice. This mate stuff was making him soft. The horse abruptly came to a stop and the man carefully gave you his hand to help you jump down. You noticed almost immediately this was much gentler than he had been previously, and honestly threw you for a loop. On one hand this was much nicer treatment than previously, even if he hadn’t been particularly bad, on the other hand what does this entail, does he want something in return? The man pulled you inside what looked like a large tent and pointed towards the bed to sit down, it was covered with fur blankets and looked rather nice and warm to cuddle up in.
“Look here’s the deal,” he said, sitting down on the floor before you, making your face in line with his. “You’re my mate, kinda like a soulmate, I guess. It’s a feeling. My name’s Bakugou Katsuki by the way. Call my Katsuki though, it’ll just piss me off if you call me anything else. Just, listen to what I say. Ill go get you some food, you look like you need it.” As Katsuki walks away you could hear him mutter under his breath “Skinny as anything” When he had officially left, and you decided he was far enough away you started to look around. The tent was rather spacious, but not to the point it was cold. If anything, it was so warm in here. Like an invisible fire was somewhere in the room keeping it warm. The tent itself smelled like wood pine and honeysuckle, and a hint of caramel, it felt more homely than your old village ever did. You knew you had to think through what he had told you, but you didn’t want to even think about it. Taken away from your home after it having been destroyed by them and he tells you you’re his soulmate and you need to listen him.
When Katsuki got back you were cocooned in the blankets, sure the room was warm, but as the night air drew in the rooms temperature seemed to drop drastically, so you had taken it upon yourself to collect all the blankets and pile them onto of yourself. Katsuki stood at the entrance dumbfounded at the sight, as in comparison he stood tall in his trousers and fur coat, with his necklace and earrings to adorn the look. He wasn’t used to feeling cold. He would need to thank his parents later for getting on at him to make sure he had enough blankets for his mate when it got cold. He placed the food down on the table and started picking apart the blankets until he revealed you, cuddling into yourself. “Look, I know its cold but you gotta eat, come on” He allows you to get yourself up, though you take one of the smaller blankets with you to combat the cold.
The meal itself wasn’t anything special. A meat of some kind with potatoes and asparagus. You were so hungry you ate it without question, too hungry to care. He watched you from the other side of the table, it made you slightly self-conscious but brushed it off as his thing, he had a habit of watching you. When you finished you made sure to tidy up your area as best as you could, not wanting to seem impolite. This made Katsuki scoff at you, your insecurity coming back quickly.
“Bed time” was all he said, even though you had been sleeping most of the day, the thought of curling up into the blanket seemed heavenly. As you climbed into the bed, securing yourself under the furs Katsuki came in behind you. He simply brought your body to his, circling his body around yours in a protective manner. With him so close to you, you found it hard to fall asleep. Though Katsuki seemed to find it easy, simply snuggling his face into your neck and falling asleep. You decided to go through your options. Option one, stay still and go to sleep unknowing to what could happen tomorrow, though by his current attitude and behaviour you now highly doubted it being too dangerous, or option two, somehow manage to escape his iron grip and run out of the tent, with no knowledge of where you were, how far from home, or what could be outside the tent. The thought of meeting something worse than Katsuki made you shiver and slightly move closer to him. At least you knew what he was capable of, plus you had the added protection that he claimed you as his mate, those usually ended happily. No one wanted to endanger their mate, it went against Barbarian law. Something you vaguely remembered researching when you were young and curious. With those thoughts in mind you allowed yourself to succumb to the warmth Katsuki provided and fall into a broken sleep.
Could I please request how would the naruto omega boys act after having a nightmare? For example, how they would want comfort from their s/o, or how would they get that comfort if their significant other is away on a mission?🙏🏾🙏🏾
(Of course you can! I hope you enjoy it~)
Naruto –
Naruto gets quite sad after a nightmare. All his enthusiasm and joy for life gets sapped out of him until he’s just miserable. He feels awful and down and he really could do with some comfort, so if his alpha wasn’t already shaken awake by his nightmare induced flailing, he makes the decision to wake them up.
The best way to comfort Naruto is with some simple cuddling. Just hold him in your arms and tuck the blankets around him. Don’t push him to talk but listen attentively when he does (and he normally does). Just… being there for him goes a long way. No one was there for him when he had a nightmare when he was younger, and it really makes him feel better.
Of course, those abandonment issues mean that Naruto doesn’t like waking up alone after a nightmare, but he is used to it. At first, he always holds your pillow and breathe in your scent while he tries to fall back to sleep, but it never works. Naruto normally ends up wandering to the kitchen and getting something to drink or making some ramen to calm himself down, stewing somewhat in bitterness that he’s alone to deal with it. After his drink/snack, he does manage to fall asleep while holding your pillow, but he’d much rather you were there with him.
“I dreamt about, well, about when Neji died, but you were there too, and I know it’s stupid,” Naruto rearranged himself on your chest so he could look up at you. “But I was really scared that you were going to get hurt or something too… I’m glad you’re okay…”
Sasuke –
Sasuke has awful, awful nightmares. Mostly about the night his brother murdered his family or the day he killed his brother. He often wakes up disorientated, panicked and upset, his scent is normally bad enough to shock his alpha awake with him. But if for some reason they don’t wake up, Sasuke will never wake them, always trying to comfort himself, to his detriment.
The best way to comfort Sasuke is to make him feel safe. Sit behind him to cover his back while he stares at all the entrances and exits into the room, never box him in or restrain him, and on really bad nights, move him into his nest where he can more easily defend himself and feel a lot safer. When he calms down, don’t speak too much, he’s likely embarrassed enough already, just tuck him back into bed or into his nest and hold him at the back of his neck. The firm pressure puts him to sleep every time.
When Sasuke wakes up from a nightmare alone, it takes him a much longer amount of time to calm down. He throws himself out of bed and into the corner of the room (somewhere more easily defendable) and he just rides the panic for as long as it takes for him to be too exhausted to continue. Oftentimes, he falls asleep like that, jammed into the corner, neck bent at a funny angle. They are rough nights for him, and they happen far too often. He can normally keep the nightmares under wraps while on a mission, he never enters a deep sleep during missions so it isn’t hard to avoid them, but at home they always plague him. He doesn’t like it when his alpha is on a long mission, he doesn’t like it at all. He’ll try and get a mission of equal length so that he isn’t left behind.
“It’s alright,” you cooed into Sasuke’s ear, massaging the back of his neck in the hopes that would be enough to settle him into his nest properly. “You’re safe, my omega, alpha will look after you.”
Shikamaru –
Shikamaru wakes up from nightmares tensed for a fight, and when he realises that he’s in bed, the tenseness melts away into a desire for something to drink or smoke. The bedroom has an attached balcony, so Shika will normally grab some cigarettes and step out into the cool night air to sort out his thoughts.
The best way to comfort Shikamaru is to leave him to think alone on the balcony, but be ready to welcome him back into bed when he comes back in. You could stand on the balcony with him, he won’t mind, as long as you don’t speak or crowd him too much, but the important part is after that. He needs a little affection when he crawls back into bed, some chest rubs perhaps, to settle him enough to fall back to sleep. Shikamaru never talks about his nightmares, but this is something you can do to lessen the load in a different way.
When his alpha isn’t there, much the same happens, but Shikamaru often spends longer on the balcony and occasionally forgoes going back to sleep entirely, simply deciding that if he’s awake, he might as well get some work done. He tries not to even think about the fact that his alpha isn’t there, it will just make him feel worse, so he avoids it.
“You’re cold,” you complained after taking Shikamaru into your arms. He had just slid into bed after twenty minutes standing on the balcony.
“Sorry,” he said, his head flopping onto his pillow. “I’ll warm up in a minute.”
Shino –
Shino hardly moves during or after a nightmare, nor does he make a sound, so his alpha is unlikely to be woken up without Shino waking them on purpose, which he rarely does. Shino normally shuffles around awkwardly for a bit, trying to get closer to his alpha without waking them up, gently placing his head on their chest for a bit of comfort. It is at this point that you are most likely to be woken up.
The best way to comfort Shino is to pull him properly into your chest and stroke his hair while he settles himself. Pretend you don’t know anything is wrong and understand that if he does want to share anything about the nightmare, he’ll share it the next morning, not in the moment.
If his alpha isn’t there, Shino will normally grab for their pillow and hold that to use their scent to soothe himself back to sleep. If they’ve been gone long enough that the scent on the pillow is faded, Shino will huff a little and go and take something out of his nest to hold instead. He doesn’t really like taking things out of his nest but needs must. If he’s super upset from his nightmare and his alpha has been gone a long time, he might just crawl into his nest and spend the rest of the night there.
“It’s a cold night tonight, huh?” you murmured sleepily as you tucked a recently awakened Shino’s head into your neck.
Shino hummed in agreement but was seemingly focused on pushing his whole body as close to his alpha’s as possible.
“Get some sleep,” you murmured before pressing a kiss to his head and drifting off back to sleep.
Neji –
Neji is a light sleeper, so normally he is able to wake himself up before his dreams turn from unnerving to horrifying. Normally, but not always. When he does have an awful nightmare, he awakes with a soft gasp, blinking rapidly to try and remove the horrible images that are still firmly placed in his mind. When that doesn’t work, Neji normally gets up and makes himself a cup of tea, sitting in the kitchen to drink it.
The best way to comfort Neji is to come with him to the kitchen but let him brew the tea in peace. When he sits down at the table, take his unoccupied hand and hold it, drawing patterns on his palm or running your thumb over the back of his hand. That rarely fails to calm him down. If Neji isn’t calmed by that, it’s likely that he had a nightmare about losing you, so scoot a little closer and sneak an arm around his waist. He prefers a little more contact with his mate if he’s had a dream about losing them, after all. If it’s late enough in the morning, Neji will probably just decide to get up for the day and he’s a difficult person to coax back into bed unless he was hit really badly by the nightmare.
When he wakes up alone, Neji does the same thing, but he doesn’t sit at the table for as long, choosing instead to just get dressed and ready for the day, even if it’s 03:00AM. He doesn’t want to wallow in his thoughts alone, so he powers through, as he’s always done.
“Do you want to head back to bed?” you murmured against Neji’s hair, placing a kiss there to end your question.
Neji hesitated before shaking his head.
“Then let’s get dressed and we can head to the market before the morning rush, my love, come on now.”
Iruka –
Iruka wakes up from nightmares with a shout on his lips, an arm automatically reaching out for his mate to ensure you’re okay or to protect you from whatever he was dreaming about. When he realises that it was all a dream, he flops back onto the bed with a sigh, annoyed that his precious sleep has been interrupted. He relies on his good sleep schedule to keep him functional under his insane workload, so he uses sheer force of will to send himself back to sleep on most nights. But if his nightmare was particularly rough, he always tucks himself into his alpha’s arms. His pride certainly won’t keep him from what he needs to sleep, so he lifts up his alpha’s arm and tucks himself in, too grumpy and overtired to care if he’s disturbing them. He lets out a nice little purr when he’s situated himself perfectly and will happily take any and all comforting touches from his alpha if he wakes them up.
The best way to comfort him if to give him those soft, comforting touches, and avoid grumbling too much at his heavy-handed attempt at cuddling haha. A little head massage goes a long way with Iruka, and while he’s the biggest advocate for talking through most things in a relationship, he likes to leave the conversation for tomorrow, so verbal exchanges should be short and sweet.
If his alpha isn’t there, then Iruka will continue trying to will himself to sleep until it works. Failure isn’t an option.
“’Ruka, what do you want? It’s the middle of the night,” you groaned, tiredly rubbing your eyes.
Iruka growled lightly at your question, but didn’t otherwise acknowledge your statement, instead continuing to arrange himself in your arms.
You couldn’t help the smile that crept onto your face as he finally settled.
“Happy now, ‘mega?” you asked, massaging the back of his head. Iruka’s purring answered that question well enough.
Kakashi –
Kakashi’s nightmares are horrific and very frequent. But they’re also very complicated. How he reacts depends on the type of nightmare, his general stress levels, how far into the relationship he is, etc. Generally, they perturb him enough that he can never go back to sleep afterwards and he is very reluctant to ever share any of the details of his nightmares. If he wakes himself up, Kakashi is prone to shutting down emotionally to protect himself. If someone else wakes him up, he can react violently before he realises where he is, so as upsetting as it can be to watch Kakashi in a nightmare, you learn that waking him up isn’t a good idea, because Kakashi would never forgive himself if he hurt his mate in a post-nightmare stupor. Once he’s properly awake, Kakashi might try to train or go and sit by the memorial stone.
The best way to comfort Kakashi is to make the room he’s sleeping is as safe as it can be. Scent the air so that he wakes up to your scent rather than just his own panicked one, make sure all the doors are shut and curtains drawn and remove any covers that he may be tangling himself in. When he wakes up, give him space to collect himself, but talk to him so that he can recognise the sound as not hostile. Very deep into the relationship, he’ll allow you to give him some water and tuck him back into bed with some gentle words and simple affection. If the relationship isn’t that strong yet, then there’s almost zero chance he’ll stick around long enough for such things.
When Kakashi wakes up without his alpha there, he trains, trains and trains some more to burn the negative feelings from his mind. If the dream was about his alpha, Kakashi can sometimes get halfway through packing an emergency bag to go and rescue you before he realises how foolish he’s being. He’s never been very good at properly comforting himself.
“Kakashi, it’s just me here with you,” you promised him, standing away from the bed to give your disorientated mate some space. “Only us, it’s safe, ‘Kashi, it’s safe.”
Itachi –
Itachi is a master at supressing his painful emotions, and after nightmares is no different. Itachi is still and silent upon waking up from a nightmare, and unless you were already awake, there is no chance that you would notice him waking up in a melancholic mood. Itachi won’t ever wake his alpha up either, putting their own needs and comfort above his (as he always does).
If you did happen to be awake and notice his nightmare, the best way to comfort Itachi is firstly to ask him if he’s okay. He’ll always say he is, but it really means a lot to him that you care enough about him to ask. After that, there are many ways to comfort Itachi, but making him a cup of tea and brushing his hair is always a safe bet. If he’s really torn, he’ll accept some cuddling and physical affection instead of tea.
When his alpha isn’t there, he simply represses everything, gets up and dressed, and sharpens his weapons or takes a trip to the nearest town to stock up on some more dango and green tea. Itachi is used to doing things alone, but he really needs someone with him sometimes, and he is eternally grateful that, despite everything he’s done, he has someone who can care and be there for him.
“Here, my love,” you passed Itachi a cup of green tea before sliding into your bed behind him, brush in hand.
“You don’t have to do this, it’s late,” Itachi whispered, looking down into his tea.
“I love doing things like this with you,” you reassured him, already playing with his hair. “Let me worry about these things, Itachi, just enjoy your tea.”
Ooh ive got a request for ya how about some comfort Tom?? Maybe he notices shes feeling off and is just super quiet and finds out its cuz shes thinks shes not good enough and maybe work is too hard on her so everythings just a little too much so he just holds her and hugs her and says sweet nothings with comfort kisses 🥺
requests are open
wc: 1.2k
“What’s with the sad music, love?”
“This isn’t sad music.” You look up from your computer. Tom strides in. You’re sitting cross legged on the floor of your bedroom, back against the bed’s frame. He purses his lip at your answer, eyes darting down to the document that’s opened on your screen. He sighs quietly.
“Whatcha doing?” He’s asking even though he already knows the answer.
“Working.”
“Again?” You look up at him as if he’s being unreasonable. “I mean,” he clears his throat. “It’s a Friday.”
“It’s also a Friday before one of the busiest months of the year.” He hums. Your eyes don’t leave the screen. You know he’s a bit upset. He’s working, of course, but his work hours are much more flexible now that the pandemic has settled harshly over the globe. But you’re not an actor, though. You’re a middle-class worker, so work hours are rough and consistency is unstable.
He kisses the top of your head before leaving you alone again, knowing you’d probably want to be alone. He’s wrong, though, because once he leaves, you let out a shaky sigh and try to compose yourself. It’s hard, though.
This is the seventeenth day now, that you’ve overworked to the point of exhaustion. The seventeenth day of all nighters and coffee as your go-to medicine. You’re quite literally a walking machine with how many hours you’re up.
Maybe it’d be easier if asking for help didn’t make you so nervous, though. A few of the tasks you’re assigned are a bit out of your knowledge, but you take the extra hours learning how to do them. After all, work is work, and with predominant male colleagues, you don’t want to deal with sexism if it can be avoided. You’re a woman and that isn’t weak.
You’re not sure if your supervisor realizes the things he’s assigning you are things that were not required when you were hired for the job. You don’t mention anything, though, because everyone keeps telling you that you’re lucky you don’t have it worse.
It’s almost eleven o’clock by the time Tom comes to bed. He’d tried to get you to eat dinner, but you’d convinced him that you already ate while he was showering. You didn’t.
“Love, bedtime,” His voice is rasping, a sure sign he’s tired. You glance up wearily.
“Oh, sorry,” You stand quickly taking your supplies as you’re about to head downstairs to continue working.
“Y/N?” He stops you, his voice damp and soft. “Where are you going?”
“Well, you’re going to bed so I’ll just work downstairs so I won’t bother you.”
You see him visibly pout at how considerate you’re trying to be. He ends up shaking his head after a few beats. “Come to bed.”
You calculate the options in your head, weighing the pros and cons. He knows what you’re doing, so he keeps going.
“C’mon, tomorrow is Saturday.” You hum. You have all day tomorrow, though you’re certain that’s not why he brought up that detail.
You end up slipping under the sheets, into his embrace for all of the night. When Tom awakens, you’re gone, bedside cold and bitter. He sighs again. Slipping on an old grey shirt, he makes his way downstairs. He hears your voice booming through the room before he actually sees you.
“That’s not what the order said to do! You need to take the data and then-” You look at Tom while you listen to the other end of the phone. You sigh frustratedly. He realizes you looked overworked already and it’s barely ten o’clock.
He’s worried you might have woken up too early. When you hang up the phone, he greets you with a soft good morning. You don’t reply.
You’re absent for pretty much the entirety of the day. Tom has four days off this upcoming week, only working from Monday through Wednesday. He knows you have the same schedule this week, because you’d planned a little self-care week together. You show no signs of stopping, however.
For the first time in less than three weeks, you’re sleeping at a normal time. This time, though, you’re not cuddled into Tom’s side. He misses your embrace, and you long for his warmth, but you don’t make any move to come close. He doesn’t want to push you, but he wants to know the reasoning for the sudden absence.
By day three of this, he wakes up to the sight of you sobbing. You’d only woken up late, but it was enough to set you off on a series of reactions.
“Love? Love what’s wrong?” He’s scooting to where you’re sitting on the floor, sobbing with your knees to your chest. You merely shake your head, and his bare chest comes closer as he tries again. “C’mon, baby. Talk to me.”
You look up at him with tear-stained cheeks before colliding with his chest, gripping him tightly while you cry. He’s still holding onto the covers when you do so, and they fall to his legs as he grips you back.
He shushes you lightly, hand smoothing out your hair. “What happened?” He asks during the silence, after your cries have lessened and your tears have halted.
You sniffle. “They- they said things, Tommy.”
His jaw clenches. “What things?”
“They- they talked about you. About- About us.”
“What about us?” He’s being stern, eyebrows furrowed. You know he’s not messing around; it makes you shiver.
“They said I’m not- not a worker,” You stumble, trying to compose yourself again. “I’m just some gold-digger girlfriend who’s lucky to have a boyfriend like you.”
“Baby…” He trails off, scooting closer and pulling you back into his embrace protectively. He hates how people talk about you, his angel and light, his soft yet badass girlfriend. He hates the disrespect sent your way merely because you love him back.
“I just don’t feel good enough anymore.” You admit, a few tears falling at the confession. Tom’s heart drops to his stomach, falling to the pit and crumbling on the way down. Your voice sounds broken and shattered. His heart aches as he tears up too.
“You’re so good enough, baby.” He longs for you to realize what he’s known all along. “Nobody can tell you otherwise. You’re amazing and I just-” He breaks off as his voice cracks. “I really love you, y’know that?”
You don’t reply. A tear slips from his brown orbs.
“It’s just too much, now.”
“Work?” “Me.”
“No.” He knows where you’re going. He doesn’t want to hear it again. “No you’re not. You’re not a burden, I don’t want to hear you talk about my girlfriend like that.”
“I’m just saying,” You wipe a cheek. “I understand if I’m too much. Everyone at work thinks that-”
“You work in a shithole.” You giggle at his use of the word. “I’m always here for you, you know that?” You nod from within his chest. “You can come to me when things start getting bad again. You’re not a burden. I love you so much; it hurts to see you so upset, baby.”
You nod again. “I’m sorry.”
“Nonsense,” He pulls you up so he can look you in the face. “Don’t need to apologize. Just… take the week off with me?”
You let a smile creep onto your face and Tom cheers in success at the response.
more stefan/andrew au? the last one was fucking amazing
(following on from pt 2 kinda following canon a lil bit but imagining their relationship panning out earlier than it did in the series? Fab)
Part 1 / part 2
-
“Andrew?” Neil was woken up by Seth’s pissed-off, tired moan. “Get the fuck out of here, you fuckin’ freak.” Neil heard the rustling of covers and Andrew’s footsteps coming into the room. “Yo, hey, are you deaf?!” It’d been a couple days since the incident in Columbia, and Andrew and Neil hadn’t really spoken since then. Coach had tried to get them to make up when Neil came back to his apartment, but his attempts futile. They’d only had a short conversation before Andrew got bored and left. All Neil got from Andrew’s lot since then was hostility and cold shoulders. Now, in the middle of the night, Andrew was breaking into the room of the three people he actively seemed to hate the most. Neil pretended to sleep, until he felt weight on the rungs of the ladder on his bed, and hands on the back of his T-shirt. Andrew practically pulled him off the bed, immediately waking him up from any bit of sleep he had left in him.
“Car. Ten minutes.” Andrew didn’t lower his voice for Neil’s half-asleep roommates. “I don’t like waiting.”
“I don’t care.” Neil retorted back in a hushed voice. “Leave me alone and let me sleep.” Andrew got real close to Neil’s face. The dim light of the moon outside the window showed Andrew unsmiling face. He was presumably sober, and Andrew sober was a much scarier sight than him being medicated and violent.
“Ten minutes.” He repeated again, matching Neil’s volume, hazel eyes burning a hole through Neil’s natural blue. Andrew put a finger to his lips and switched to German. “This is the only chance you’ll get.”
Neil had almost forgotten he’d spoken to Andrew in German in Coach’s apartment. He was startled at the sudden language change, and obliged when Andrew finally left the room. He got dressed underneath his covers as best he could, and decided against putting in his contacts, before jumping down off the top bunk.
“Bring that monster around here one more time and you’re moving out.” Seth groaned, but fully meant what he said. He turned around to face the wall and through the muffle of a pillow, Neil heard him say, “Now fuck off.” Matt, sleeping like a rock, was snoring on the other side of the room, totally unphased and undisturbed by Andrew’s swift entrance and exit.
Andrew was alone at his car when Neil pulled the sleeves of his hoodie over his hands in a desperate attempt to stay warm, the door of the dorm building shutting behind him. It was freezing outside, and Neil hadn’t realised it was literally the middle of the night until he saw a clock in the hallway reading an early 3:54am. The wind blew leaves across the parking lot with a whistle and a rustle, the dry fall leaves swirling around like tiny twisters on the tarmac. The campus was silent, on the night of a weekday, so Neil didn’t expect anyone to be out. Yet here Andrew was, leaning on the bonnet of his car with a cigarette between his lips, smoke quickly disappearing in the biting wind.
“You never answered my question on our little night out.” He spoke through the smoke, as Neil approached closer. “We’re going for a drive.”
“Do you ever sleep?” Neil’s voice was groggy from his own interrupted sleep. Andrew didn’t answer, instead flicking away his cigarette and sitting into the drivers seat. Neil walked around to the passenger side and sat in. When he tried to warm his hands on the hot air Andrew had blowing through the air-con, Andrew turned the heat off. Neil was sure if Andrew was medicated he would’ve laughed, but he instead opted for watching the road as they drove in silence. Neil sat back and tried his best not to fall asleep. His head bumped about on the headrest as they drove, and every time his eyes started to close, his sleep cycle begging him to come back to rest, Andrew would snap his fingers in his face or lay a punch down on his thigh. After a short drive, they pulled up into the empty lot of some National Park Neil didn’t know the name of. He was too tired to pay attention to the signs, but figured Andrew wouldn’t bring him to a park to kill him or let him go. Andrew was a man of truth when he wanted to be; He wanted to know why he was on the run and Neil didn’t have the energy to argue.
“Why are we here?” Neil asked at the same time Andrew said “What brought a runaway to Oakland?”They both paused for a moment, but Neil knew Andrew wasn’t going to answer his question until Neil answered his.
“It was the first place she wanted to stop.” Neil spoke through a yawn. “The others before there made her too paranoid. It was the first time she felt like she could close her eyes and actually sleep without feeling like she was…” He thought about his words for a moment. The last conversation they’d had, he told him he was on the run, but Andrew already knew that. Neil thought he’d got through to him by giving him half-honesty, telling him his parents were dead. He never brought up Riko, or his family, instead choosing the option of trying to appeal to Andrew’s inner child, who remembered Stefan. It was a stupid choice, and Neil knew that the second he chose it. “She could sleep without feeling like she had a target on her back.”
“Did you kill her?” Andrew said it so casually it felt like murder was something so normal, like eating lunch or going for a walk. Like asking if he killed his mother was just like asking if he liked the taste of garlic, or if he was having a good day.
“No,” Neil answered. He’d been thinking about what he would tell Andrew about his life since he seen him in Arizona. Who was he before Oakland? Where did they go? Who was he running from? “Riko’s family did.”
And suddenly Andrew was interested. His face was a mixture of disbelief and boredom. Neil told him his manufactured version of the story; that his parents were killed by the Moriyama family, and that they’d been on the run since the execution of his Father. He kept out the part about the Butcher of Baltimore, or the fact that he was actually still alive, but Andrew’s mind was at work as Neil told the story. If he didn’t look awake before, he did now. Neil spoke for an hour, maybe less, maybe more, flowing from story to anecdote to answering questions that Andrew slipped in whenever he wanted. Neil answered it all with mostly-truths, redacting the stuff Andrew simply didn’t need to know. Neil was a runaway, his family were in some bad business, but Neil was the only one left.
“I really didn’t think you could get any more stupid, yet I am constantly surprised.” Andrew tutted as he shook a cigarette out of the packet, into his hand. He rolled down the window on his side and smoked out of it, seemingly unbothered by the wind that just blew the smoke back into his face. “You knew who I was, but you knew Kevin too? How forgetful do you think people are?”
“I don’t know,” Neil told him honestly. “I just- We were so young. I met Kevin years before I met you. I just didn’t think I was important to anyone.” Andrew laughed a laugh that wasn’t really a laugh at all. It was the sound of dismissal, as though he didn’t believe a word that spilled from Neil’s tired lips. “I didn’t think I’d ever be particularly memorable or mean anything to anyone. That was the most important thing to my mom.”
“What, being unimportant?” Andrew didn’t look at Neil as he spoke.
“Being forgettable.” Neil sighed, thinking about his mother’s words that had been drilled into his head. If you’re too interesting, you’re asking to be killed. Be boring. Be normal. Be forgettable. “You fucked that up for me.”
“See, you keep blaming me,” Andrew shook his head as he took a drag from the cigarette that had been half-smoked by the wind. “I didn’t fuck up your life, Abagnale, you did.” Neil didn’t get the reference, but he didn’t ask either.
“I don’t mean it’s your fault. You didn’t do anything,” Neil tried correcting himself. “I couldn’t help it when I was around you. And all I could do every second of my days after Oakland was blame you because I couldn’t deal with the fact that I let you in. Everything I learned, everything I’d done, you came along and turned the place upside down because I just had to know you. I had to.”
“Why?” Andrew looked at him with that same uninterested look he usually had, when a medically-induced smile wasn’t spread across his cheeks. “What made me any different to the hundreds of other kids I’m sure you met on your travels, hmm?”
“You were real.” Andrew scoffed. Neil frowned at that and shrugged his shoulders. “We’ve been through this. Don’t waste my time getting to know me if you just want me to run. You want me to get lost in the park, is it? Is that why you brought me here?”
“Nothing better than some honesty with a view.” Andrew tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. “How do you expect me to trust you when you’ve spent your whole life a liar? Be mad if you want, but I’m much less gullible now, you see. Once a liar, always a liar.” Neil sent Andrew a look as he hovered his hand over Andrew’s. When he just stared at it, Neil brought Andrew’s hand up to his collarbone where was a small, raised, pink scar sitting just above it.
“The motels phone.” Neil spoke quietly, as if Mary would hear, as if she was waiting to jump out from behind the car to take him and beat him again for letting his guard down, for being unforgettable. “It was the first thing she could grab when we got into our room. I never told her your name, and she beat me harder for it. I never wanted to let her anger ruin your name.” Andrew dropped his hand from Neil’s grip.
“Pretty unintelligent to take hits for someone you thought you’d never see again.”
Then Neil said, “I knew I’d never forget you.” Andrew tensed up at the almost-promise, and the memories came flooding back for Neil like a tsunami sweeping over every other thought he had. “I wouldn’t. I couldn’t.” Neil almost reached out to touch Andrew before he remembered the boundary Andrew had set that night in Columbia. Neil didn’t have a right to touch him anymore, and he knew Andrew noticed as Neil’s hand lifted and then hesitantly fell. “Tell me something I don’t know about this Andrew. I’ve told you my life, tell me yours.” He gestured to Andrew, sat across from him with an almost-frown on his face and a thinking mind hard at work.
“This Andrew doesn’t give a shit about what answers you think you deserve.” He looked Neil up and down. “I don’t owe you anything.”
“Why doesn’t Nicky know you’re gay?” Neil asked, instead of waiting for him to come up with something himself, it was much easier to get honesty from Andrew by prompting him. Neil watched as his jaw tensed for a second, thinking about the answer.
“Nicky is too involved in being the gay cousin to un-assume.” Andrew barely lifted his shoulders in the form of a shrug. “He hasn’t asked.”
“Why don’t you tell him?”
“I don’t ‘come out’,” He brushed off the thought with the flick of his wrist and a roll of his eyes. “I don’t fuck women in my spare time. Who cares?”
“Yeah, sure, but-” Neil had started to speak when Andrew cut across.
“At least I’m out to myself,” He nodded towards him. “You, on the other hand? Was it just Stefan who was into it or is the unnamed you just in denial?”
“I’m not, like…” Neil hated the sexuality question. It was confusing and messy and Andrew and Andrew and Andrew. “There was no one after you. It’s only been you.”
“By choice or by mothers hands?”
“Neither. Both?” He wasn’t sure how to answer. “The foxes are the first people I’ve let get somewhat close since then. That’s the truth. I haven’t wanted to. I’m just not interested in anyone.” The except for you part was silent, but he knew Andrew had somewhat heard it when he sat back, one hand on the steering wheel, the other arm resting on the door, as he took a deep breath that he tried to hide. Neil wasn’t even sure he was still into Andrew like that, because they were so young, after all. Andrew was still experimenting, and they never spoke about those kinds of feelings. They were friends who kissed each other because they wanted to know what it felt like. They kissed each other because maybe they thought they liked it. Maybe they’d have to do it again just to be sure. But that was so long ago, and so much had changed. Neil had had a crush on that Andrew, but this one? He wasn’t so sure. This one was harsh and mean, angry and unmoving. This one had been hard-boiled by life and wasn’t going to crack any time soon. He didn’t know if he felt things anymore. He didn’t know if Andrew was capable of a crush, or a kiss, or a simple, electric touch of fingers to skin.
Without a word, Andrew had switched on the ignition and idled the engine for a moment before pulling out and starting on the drive back to campus. Neil didn’t say anything else, he only rested his head on the window and watched as the morning sun slowly lit up the night sky, the dark navy blue taking over the black sky so slowly it was hardly noticeable.
He had pulled into his usual parking spot not long later, still not looking at Neil or speaking at all. He stayed still in the drivers seat after switching the engine off. Neil took that as his cue to leave. Matching Andrew’s silent treatment, he got up and shut the door without a word. Andrew had rolled down his window again, another cigarette already stuck between his lips. He watched as Neil walked around the car before he tapped the outside of his door twice to catch his attention. Neil spoke before he could.
“Give me a chance.” The wind blew his hair off his face, reminding him how cold it was, and why he should’ve worn a jacket. “Let me stay. I don’t have anything else.”
“Don’t be fooled into thinking I trust you.” He hung his hand out the window finally looking Neil in the eyes again. “It’s a matter of time before your egg timer runs out. Make use of it while you can.”
“I’ll bury Stefan forever, if you ask.” Neil offered in payment for the sudden change of heart in letting him stay, in cleaning his hands of the idea that Neil was after Kevin, or that he was a threat. “Say the word and we start fresh from today.”
“I don’t care,” Andrew took a long drag, one that felt like it was centuries long, like the sun would be up by the time he finished. He blew it out and raised his hands. “Kill what wasn’t real. Prove to me what was.”
Neil wasn’t sure what that invitation meant, but he didn’t ask Andrew to keep speaking. When they broke eye contact, he knew then Andrew wanted him to leave. Neil didn’t look back, heart racing, practically ready to burst out of his chest by the time he reached his dorm room. He opened the door as quietly as he could, careful not to disturb his peacefully sleeping roommates, and he crawled back into bed to try get some sleep before the practice scheduled for the morning. Instead of counting sheep, battling restlessness like a fight for his life, he thought of Stefan. He thought of the heart of Nathaniel that had gotten wrapped up in his blond hair and tiny frame. Neil fell asleep thinking about who he used to be, and what parts of that were real. What parts could he keep? His mind spent its last morsels of energy on dissecting Neil Josten, to make him feel a little more real.
The next time they saw each other outside of practice was when Kevin started coming to find him late at night to go to the court and practice together. Neil realised quickly he was going to become a night owl as a Fox, but it still took him a while to adjust to the late nights and early starts. But him and Andrew kept their distance; they didn’t speak if they didn’t have to, and their conversations were kept to a line or two each. They played their first match of the season, and Andrew had sent out shots for Neil like they were capable of working together. Then there was Kathy Ferdinand’s show, at which Andrew had hands all over him, holding him back from killing Riko on live TV. He had made a deal to protect Kevin, and then he was being psychically held back from doing so. Neil did what he couldn’t, and stood up to Riko, a conscious effort to gain his trust, to prove he was on the side of the foxes. Then there was that touch, that simple, light, barely-there touch, and Neil knew he’d won. He’d earned Andrew’s trust, at least for a moment, but that was all that mattered.
When Andrew ever-so-kindly reminded Neil later that Riko would find out about him, the original “Neil”, as easily as he’d strolled onto that stage to sit across from Kevin, there was no choice but to run. He couldn’t imagine any other option. His entire body went into fight or flight, and he struggled to sit still as Andrew held his collar and told him to stay.
“Why?” Neil asked, throat dry, hands shaking, after Andrew offered him protection for the year if he promised to stay. It was funny to imagine, as if there was anything he could do against the actual, guns-blazing, internationally dominating mafia. “Why would you help me?” Andrew laughed, and just about caressed Neil’s jaw in the most non-affectionate way possible. Neil felt his touch leave blood on his skin, but he didn’t flinch. Andrew was manic, and didn’t care. He looked as if he didn’t even feel the pain of a glass-shattering punch, and was actively enjoying the chaos that the morning had brought with it.
Andrew didn’t give him any sort of an answer until later that night, when he stepped into Neil’s space and told him to remember the feeling; Neil couldn’t run anymore. He had given his word to Andrew that he would stay, and as much as he had started to hate the Present-Day-Andrew-Minyard, he trusted him as a man of his word. Neil had killed the parts of Stefan that were untrue; all that was left was the real emotion he felt when he looked at Andrew. He was an asshole, but he was Andrew, and Neil trusted this five foot blond boy with his life. Perhaps it was crazy, perhaps he was officially, undeniable, finally signing his name on his death wish, ticking down the hours until his past caught up. Whereas running was his old line of defence, his current one was Andrew. Andrew was an unlit fire suddenly gaining embers, and Neil knew it was dangerous to let that fire grow. Especially when Andrew leaned over in Eden’s, crackers on his tongue, a drink in his hands, and whispered in German;
“Mommy’s not here to hurt you anymore.” Neil snapped his gaze towards Andrew, who was coming up on his high, speaking to Neil but watching the crowd on the dancefloor. His breath at Neil’s ear sent shivers up his spine, goosebumps on his arms. “My hands are open to have your back. Give it to me this time.”
Prince’s Kiss | Jason Grace
Summary: While on a mission, Y/n gets hurt and there’s only one way for Jason to save her.
Category: fluff
_____________________
          You and Jason had found yourselves in many situations like this before: back to back, weapons drawn, and fighting off a hoard of monsters. The rhythm and coordination you two had crafted over the course of hundreds of hours in battle and in training together proved to be a formidable force against opponents. You covered each other’s blind spots and moved as one. Which was necessary in the cramped alleyway.
          Soon enough your attackers had diminished in number until just a few were left and one big ugly came charging at you. You swung at it but your sword got stuck half-way through its wood club and wouldn’t come when you pulled.
          “Jay-.” Ducking under the monster’s swing, you continued to try and pry your sword free.
          “On it.” Jason replied and finished off his opponent with a quick and calculated strike before he spun around to help. You ducked beneath his arm as it arched over you and cut into the monster, turning it to dust before he reached around you and wrapped his hands around your own on the hilt of your sword. It came free with a strong pull from your combined strength and you both let out a heavy breath now that it was over.
          “Thanks,” you huffed, out of breath.
          “Don’t mention it,” he nodded, equally fatigued.
          “You know,” you kicked the wood club out of your way as you started to leave. “You’d think that with how often this happens, we’d be less winded.”
          “I’m fine, I think it’s just you,” he nudged your shoulder with his and you laughed.
          “Oh really? Bet I could beat you back to the motel.”
          “You sure you wanna do this?”
          “I think you’re scared, Jay-.”
          A sharp sting to your side cut off your words. You looked down to see a scorpion-looking monster crouching behind the dumpster next to you and it reared its tail for another attack. Your limbs were sluggish as you tried pathetically to raise your sword and fight.
          “You’re on, Y/n.” Jason looked back at you, a challenging smile on his face that fell immediately when he saw the blood coming from your side and the monster about to swing. “Y/n!”
          His sword found its mark and the monster was finished before it could strike again and he spun to face you, worry creasing his brow.
          “Are you alright?” He reached out his hand towards your wound and caught you in his arms as you collapsed. “Hold on, Y/n.”
          The motel room you had rented for your mission wasn’t far and Jason made record time carrying you back to it. He laid you on one of the beds and gently lifted your shirt up over your stomach so that he could see the wound. It didn’t look too deep once he cleaned it up but you still hadn’t woken up. That’s when he knew something was wrong. You were one of the toughest people Jason knew and he had seen you walk off wounds far worse than this.
          Deciding he needed some professional help, Jason scrambled to get a golden drachma from his backpack and ran to the bathroom to turn on the shower.
          When the misty picture of Will Solace lit up the tiles, Jason called out to him frantically.
          “Jason!” Will jumped and spun around to see the Iris message. He took in the usually composed leader’s worry and then past the open bathroom door to where he could see Y/n unmoving on the bed and immediately snapped into business mode. “What’s wrong.”
          “I don’t know she got hit and passed out but the wound isn’t that bad and she can’t eat any ambrosia like this. What do I do?”
          “You said the wound isn’t bad?” Will asked and Jason held his hand up in an approximation of how big it is, not wanting to move you from the bed. “And she’s passed out? It must be something else then. Did you see what hit her?”
          “Yeah it was some kind of scorpion looking thing, I don’t know.” Jason ran his hand through his hair and walked back over to you, inspecting the wound and holding your hand that Will couldn’t see.
          “Does she have a fever? It could be some kind of poison,” Will offered and Jason felt your forehead.
          “She’s burning up.”
          “I don’t get it,” Will tore through his books looking for an answer. “There isn’t a kind of monster like that who’s sting produces these kinds of symptoms.”
          Jason walked back over to the bathroom and looked at Will’s surroundings.
          “Is Annabeth there? She would probably know.”
          “She’s in New York City with Percy.” Jason’s budding hope shrank again and he looked at your reflection in the mirror. Your skin looked drained of color but at least the wound had stopped bleeding. “I’ll keep looking. Did the wound look discolored at all-?”
         Jason jumped from a cry of pain and rushed back to your side where you were thrashing around in your sleep. He grabbed your wrists and tried to hold you down so you wouldn’t hurt yourself, your eyes screwed shut and agonized noises like a  twisting knife in his gut. “Will!”
          “I’m looking! Try to keep her still!”
          Even unconscious, you were putting up a hell of a fight for Jason who was struggling to hold you down, especially since he was trying not to hurt you.
          “Jason, you gotta hold her down.”
          He jumped up and straddled your hips to keep your legs down and leaned the rest of his weight into keeping your wrists to the pillow.
          “Wait, you guys were looking for monsters who stole stuff from Aphrodite, right?”
          “Yeah?” The entire point of the mission had left Jason’s mind since he saw you collapse and he was too anxious to follow Will’s thinking.
          “Then what if it was one of Aphrodite’s potions that the stinger was dipped in?” Will grabbed a new book and wildly searched through it. “This one must be it! Fainting, fever, convulsions… yeah it’s this one.”
          “What do I do?” The fight was being drained from you but Jason was hesitant to do more than ease on his grip a little in case you started up again.
          “It says that the only cure is a… wow, that is so like Aphrodite.”
          “Will.”
          “Okay it says that the only cure is a kiss from royalty, like a prince or something.”
          Jason’s hope was crushed once again seeing as how even if they weren’t in America, a prince would be exceptionally hard to acquire.
          “Well I don’t think I’ll be able to find a prince in the middle of Wisconsin. Is there another option?” There had to be another way. No way in hell was Jason going to lose you. Especially not before you knew how he felt.
          You had completely stopped fighting against him and Jason wished you would keep doing so even if he was tired. He much preferred it to you lying there limp and lifeless.
          “Wait, wait, wait. Zeus is the king of the gods,” Will started and expected Jason to catch on to his idea. “And you’re his son.”
          “Well, technically I’m the son of Jupiter, but what does that have to do with anything?” Jason removed himself from on top of you and walked over to Will.
         “I mean that technically makes you a prince, Jason.”
          Jason frowned in concentration, weighing the legitimacy of that claim. Then he struggled to fight off a blush when he realized what Will was insinuating he has to do now.
          “Are you sure that counts? Like there’s not another way?” Jason looked back at you, now dealing with new emotions adding to his turmoil.
          “Jason, you have to try it. And like now, she doesn’t have long. It says here that once the convulsions stop they don’t have much time left.” Will’s face was getting blurry as the Iris message was running out.
          “What if it doesn’t work, what do I do?” Jason pleaded to the fading form of his friend. “Will, Will!”
          The Iris message cut off and Jason hit the wall in frustration before he returned to your side.
          “This better work.” He didn’t know what he would do if it didn’t. As Jason knelt down and brushed some hair out of your face he couldn’t imagine having to live without you by his side. Even if you didn’t return his feelings, your friendship was too important to him. The thought of losing you made him forget any nerves he had and he leaned down and gingerly pressed his lips to yours.
          The change was immediate as you breathed in life. Your eyes opened and the first thing they saw was Jason’s.
          “Jay?” He broke out into the biggest smile you had ever seen on him and he pulled you into a hug. “What happened?”
          “You got kinda poisoned and almost died.” At this point you registered the dull pain emitting from your side and leaned back to look at your injury. “But you didn’t because I saved you. You’re welcome.”
          “Oh, so you’re my Prince Charming?” You asked him and he shrugged.
          “I mean, technically.” His voice sounded less confident than it had and you looked at him quizzically, which made him avoid your gaze by walking over to his backpack. “How do you feel?”
          “Fine…” you answered, still thinking about his sudden mood shift. “Except for whatever happened here.”
          “Giant scorpion thing,” he answered and walked back over, handing you a square of ambrosia.
          “Cool.” The ambrosia soothed your side and you leaned against the headboard in relief.
          “Hardly,” Jason scoffed, sitting next to you but looking down at his lap. “You collapsed and went pale and I thought I was going to lose you.”
          He got quiet and you saw the stress and worry in his slumped shoulders.
          “The thought of you just… being gone. Before I could say goodbye or, or tell you how I feel. You were so pale…” His jaw clenched and he turned his face away from you.
          “Jason,” you placed your hand on his shoulder and made him look at you. His blue eyes teared up and you felt a physical tug on your heart. Your hands cradled his face and gently wiped away the tear that fell to his cheek. “I’m okay. I’m not going anywhere.”
          His head hung and landed on your shoulder, your hand combed through his hair.
          “And Jason?” You asked as you remembered a sensation from when you woke up.
          “Mm-hm?” He responded from your shoulder, his voice steadier now.
          “Did you… kiss me?”
          At that he burst upright and a blush was raging on his face.
          “Okay, I had to do it or you would die. I’m sorry. I didn’t want to- I mean I did want to kiss you. For a while now, actually, but not like this and especially when I couldn’t tell if you wanted me to or not. Will just said that there was no other way so-.”
          “Shut up.” His eyes snapped to you failing to suppress your grin. “Don’t apologize. Just… do it again.”
          His lips parted in shock and then one side lifted up as he leaned into you. Your hands held his face as his mouth pressed into yours and your bodies sighed into each other. So many years of longing and second-guessing and finally getting an answer, you couldn’t believe this was really happening.
          Jason tilted his head further and deepened the kiss, his hand moving to your leg that was propped up on the bed, sliding from your knee down to your hip and squeezing.
          “Holy shit,” you mumbled against his lips before you could stop yourself and you felt his smirk.
          “Just wait.”
          His lips moved down to your neck and you could breathe again but your head didn’t get any clearer, until you looked into the bathroom.
          “Jason?”
          “Hm?” His voice tickled the sensitive skin of your throat .
          “Why is the shower on?”
Secret Brother Pt3 (Final)
Ending for Ian and Mikhail.
TW: mentions of abandonment. This part specifically mentions pet like treatment. It is painted as how wrongly Ian was treated Mikhail does not stand for it.
Part 1 Part 2
Secret Brother Part 3 (Final)
Ian was shaking his head mumbling no. Mikhail almost wanted to laugh at himself. He was so upset about everything, he didn’t even have to worry about growing right now. He took a step towards Ian who matched with a step back. He let out a deep sigh and sat down on the table waiting for Ian to approach. Ian just started pacing, clearly unsettled. This went on for a few minutes.
“Ian, can we talk?” Mikhail asked. Ian looked at him, eyes wide with fear. This is exactly what he was dreading since he first shifted to help out. He hated the fear borrowers always had when it came to him changing sizes.
“Why should I talk to you? I don’t know you at all.” Ian tried to sound fierce, but fear was seeping through.
“Ian, just because I can change my size doesn’t mean anything else is different. I’m still the same Mik who helped you.”
“You’re Mik?!” he screeched. All right, if Ian was willing to interact after this he was teaching the kid to focus on details. There wasn’t any other way for him to know his name. It was also kind of funny to hear just shock about it, Mikhail started laughing. “Don’t laugh at me! How was I supposed to realize!?”
“Buddy, I’m not laughing at you, it’s just funny. Here I was so sure you’d figured me out. That I had no options to avoid telling you now, but I could probably have played it off until next week when I was planning to talk to you.”
“So-so you’re the human, so you don’t need to be protected. So this was a waste,” Ian looked at Mikhail with a mixture of fear and acceptance. “W-What do you plan to do with me now?”
“Well we can talk, you can tell me about this human that scared you. You can just go back to the walls and I’ll leave you be. We can keep going like before if you want. You can move and I’ll help you or you can move on your own. Next steps are up to you. I’ll follow your lead, I know the fact I’m human sized most of the time can be troubling.”
“What will you do if the bad human shows up?” he asked.
“Keep you safe.”
“What if I ran away from them, wouldn’t most humans give me back?”
“Nothing will make me change my mind. You’re a person and from how you acted it doesn’t sound like they treated you like one.” Mikhail was positive he wouldn’t let Ian get caught by that person again. There isn’t anything Ian could tell him to make him change his mind. He wasn’t going to encourage Ian thinking he didn’t have choices. Ian was a person who could make his own decisions.
“Fine, I'll tell you what happened with the bad human. We’ll see how serious you are after that.” Ian moved closer to sit in front of Mikhail. His face was more serious than he’d seen until now. It made him nervous, this wasn’t an easy story it seemed.
“I lived in the house with the bad human and their family pretty much my whole life. My family didn’t like how curious the child was and had been talking about moving for a few years. When my mom got pregnant, my dad decided I should start borrowing. He didn’t want her out, and wanted me to be able to get supplies we needed once the baby was born. It went fine at first, I’d practiced a lot, but I was seen. I told my parents and we packed up everything, they’d been prepping for that for a long time. They didn’t want to risk staying with the curious human child so we left the same night. It was raining and I got caught in a current. My dad held my mom back from trying to help me. He said it was better to let me live with the consequences, it was my fault we were moving anyway. She fought against him, but the current was strong and I was pulled under. When I woke up I was in a room I recognized. It took me a few minutes to realize I was also in a cage.
“That was the bad human’s room. At first they were nice, they said they were just keeping me there so I wouldn’t get hurt. After a week I started to ask when I could leave. They would play up this idea that I would be in too much danger. One day I decided to try to leave, they hadn’t taken my things so I could open the cage pretty easily. Apparently while I’d been out they found all the entrances in the room and blocked them off. The human was angry when they came back. They took everything, but my clothes that day. Then I started getting punished if I acted wrong. Days without food and water, sometimes they’d leave a sheet over the cage so I couldn’t tell any time. A few times other borrowers showed up, they promised to help me usually. I would point them to an exit and never see them again. I can’t blame them, I probably wouldn’t risk capture by a human who kept an underfed borrower.
“I’m not sure how long I’d been with them, but eventually they started talking about some project. The human took me with them to that building. They kept saying something about the perfect topic. I’d been behaving for a while so they’d started making mistakes. They left me on their desk along with some other things. I stole what I could to make a hook and tried living in the walls,” Ian took in a shaky breath. Tears were falling down his face as he spoke. Mikhail was trying to stay calm as he listened, ready to go find the cruel person and show them how being caged felt.
“Then there was the day you showed up. I’d been listening to the bad human a lot and they were planning to try and capture me again. I knew climbing in your bag might be a bad idea, but you didn’t live in that building. I didn’t want the bad human to get me again. I figured once out I’d either make it work in the new human home or die trying.”
Mikhail couldn’t hold back anymore. He stood quickly walking over to Ian. He fell to his knees in front of him, pulling him in to a tight hug. He felt himself grow a bit, the desperate need to keep Ian safe taking a bit of control. He fought himself to keep close to Ian’s size, now wasn’t the time to loom over him. Ian froze, but soon turned into Mikhail’s chest crying. He grabbed the cloth of the shirt in tight fists, letting out everything he kept inside. Mikhail held him tightly until he’d worn himself out. Ian had started to fall asleep, it made sense and Mikhail let him. This was a rough night and he deserved some rest. Ian’s world was changed a lot. As Ian fell into a deep sleep, Mikhail moved to get them both off the table. He had grown carrying someone before, although this was the first time in a long time.
He sat at the table edge with Ian in his arms and focused on getting back to human height. He watched as the boy got smaller, sliding him off into one palm as he reached his human height. He slid off the table trying to be quiet enough for the borrower in his hand. He watched for any signs he woke up, then turned to grab the hook off the table. Mikhail took slow, steady steps to his room. He wanted to let Ian sleep, he’d clearly been on edge for a while. He placed the hook on his palm next to Ian and used his free hand to pull a pillow off his bed. He placed it on the nightstand and carefully slid Ian off on to the plush pillow. Ian curled up smaller, tempting Mikhail to lift him back up. He grabbed a shirt from his dresser laying it over the borrower, he placed the hook just out of the way in case he moved in his sleep. Mikhail wouldn’t let Ian think he was trapped.
Mikhail got into his own bed, facing Ian with a sad smile. He’d been through a lot, it wasn’t fair he’d had to deal with all that. He would make sure whichever student it was didn’t have a chance to get near him again. He felt himself slowly drifting off to sleep, hoping Ian wouldn’t have run off tomorrow morning. His sleep was dreamless and he was thankful. He wasn’t happy when he was woken up by someone banging on his front door. He opened his eyes, sleepily looking towards the pillow. He couldn’t tell if Ian was still there, he wanted to check, but more bangs came. He sighed knowing he couldn’t take the time to talk with Ian while this was going on.
He slid out of bed and stalked over to his front door. He wasn’t expecting anyone he knew to be there and was ready to yell at the rude solicitor. He opened the door, getting far more annoyed when a student pushed past him into his home. He glared at the girl who invited herself over. She had been far too pushy from the start of the year and this was a breaking point. He had no time for her today, especially with how sure he was that this was Ian’s captor.
“Can I help you Anise?” he asked, voice dripping with annoyance. “I don’t particularly appreciate students barging in to my home.”
“I’m sorry professor,” she said, with no ounce of remorse. “Just that topic I’ve been bringing to you for the last few weeks. I know it sounds crazy, but I did have proof that I could use for the project. I know this sounds crazy but if you’d just let me look around for a few minutes I know I could find it. I’m positive it left with you when you held the study session.”
“Anise, I’ve told you before this is a scientific course, you will not be doing a paper on the folklore of small humanoid creatures,” Mikhail was barely controlling his anger. “I expect you to leave. Now.”
“Professor, just trust me!” she yelled. He’d had enough of this student and was ready to kick her out. Unfortunately there was an audible yelp from the bedroom, one that she had clearly recognized. She started walking towards the bedroom seeming sure this was her chance. “Professor that noise, I’m positive it’s my proof if you’d let me just-”
Mikhail had enough, he slammed his arm across the doorway she was just about to enter. He could tell he’d grown a large bit, but honestly couldn’t care less. She stormed into his home, going on about using a person as proof, and intended to just wander around. He glared down at her, not willing to put up with her much longer.
“That noise you heard was my brother, who you just woke up,” he growled. “I’ve had enough of this fantasy. I will be removing you from this class effective Monday. I will also be contacting the school about this conduct. And to entertain your theories, even if these humanoid creatures existed based on the folklore you so heavily have referenced, they would be sentient and equal to us in intelligence. I question your ethics based on how desperate you seem for this fantasy. This field expects a level of compassion which you clearly lack.”
“Wait no please just-” she tried to argue. She knew that Mikhail was respected in his field, it wasn’t good to be on his bad side.
“Get out of my home before I throw you out,” MIkhail’s voice was dark. He had definitely hit over a foot higher than normal, he was lucky this girl wasn’t focusing on that. She opened her mouth to try again, but she stopped as she met his glare. She slowly turned and walked out of the house. This was poor conduct, it would be handled and he’d be letting his family know about her. He slammed the door behind her, a bit harder than he’d intended. He tried to calm down as he walked back to his room, Ian was probably terrified. He couldn’t calm down enough to get his size back to normal, unfortunately.
Ian was sitting up on the pillow, the shirt pulled up around him. It looked like he’d been shaking. Mikhail sat on the floor in front of the nightstand, it made him just about eye level to Ian. He couldn’t bring himself to meet his eyes, he didn’t want to see him scared. It was bad enough he wasn’t a borrower, but he was pretty clearly bigger than his usual human size. Although he could luck out again with how oblivious Ian proved to be after last night. Ian seemed to be just as lost with how quiet the room was. Mikhail looked up a little, but couldn’t read Ian’s expression at all.
“You actually stopped them,” Ian said. Mikhail almost thought he heard awe, but that couldn’t be right.
“I told you I’d keep you safe,” he smiled a little.
“You said I was your brother.”
Mikhail blushed, he hadn’t meant to grow so attached. He didn’t mean to announce it like that either. “Yeah, I uh, I kind of think of you like that, after the last few months.”
“So what’s next if I stay here?” Ian asked. Mikhail looked at him with wide eyes.
“Then, we figure out the boundaries for us,” he answered. “You can stay in the walls or we can set something up out here. Up to you entirely.”
“Is it ok if I think you’re like a brother too?” Ian’s voice was small, Mikhail had to strain to hear it.
“I’d love to have a secret brother like you,” Mikhail smiled. He leaned his face closer to the pillow, just realizing he’d gotten down to his usual size. Ian crawled to the edge of the pillow hugging Mikhail’s nose. His smile grew and he carefully cupped his hand behind Ian. This wouldn’t be easy, but having a brother like Ian sounded pretty great.
The Family We Choose - Harry Lewis
Requested: Yes ~ Hi Nikki, hope you are well! I was just wondering if you could write an imagine where the reader doesn't want biological kids (if you are comfortable writing about it) and Harry finds out either through a discussion or a sidemen video or really however. The ending would be completely up to you and how you see fit. I just adore your writing, especially about Harry. Thank you x
Tumblr media
Four years had passed since your miscarriage, everything seemed to have fallen into place. You had graduated with a first degree in psychology and had applied to do a masters in counselling. Harry had flourished in his YouTube career, his sub count reaching a number that he could have only had dreamed of, four years ago. Your relationship went from strength to strength. However, despite all of that, it was clear that Harry wanted to be a dad. As much as you loved Harry, you couldn’t bring yourself to try for another child any time soon. The trauma you had been healing from, was still too fresh for you to risk opening up that wound again.
No matter how hard you tried though, you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him. Even with all the therapy sessions that you attended, mixed with the fact that Harry insisted that the miscarriage wasn’t your fault — you couldn’t help but blame yourself. It was your default, considering it was your body that had failed with carrying the baby to full term. Yet, with each passing day Harry tried to hint more at the fact that he wanted to try starting a family again.
It all got too much, when he had purchased a baby grow, wrapped it and placed it in a gift bag. Leaving it on the kitchen counter for you to find. Which left you no choice but to nip it in the bud. As much as you hated the thought of disappointing Harry, you couldn’t let this go on. The more that he hinted, the worse that you felt. Which just perpetuated a nasty cycle of guilt.
Baby grow in hand, you went to find Harry. Who, was more than likely in your shared bedroom streaming. The nerves and knots in your stomach multiplied tenfold as you made your way up the stairs. A prominent lump in your throat formed, just at the thought of disappointing him. You waited for Harry to end his stream, before entering the bedroom.
You sat down on the bed, opposite Harry. As you passed him the gift bag, you made direct eye-contact for the first time. A sigh escaped your lips, as you placed one hand in the other, trying to comfort yourself.
I’m not ready to try for another baby yet, Harry.” You told him, breaking the silence that had been comforting you for a few brief moments. He simply nodded, you could see he was mulling over the information you had just provided him with.
“I understand. But, I was thinking, because I know how much you want to be a mum too… whether adoption would be an option for us? It wouldn’t have to be a baby, there’s so many children out there that need loving homes. Despite the little donny not being ours biologically, we’d still be their mum and dad.”
“I can’t promise anything… but I’m willing to go through the process. We might find the right child for us, we might not.”
A long six months had passed since Harry and yourself had applied to be prospective adoptive parents. You had gone through various tests, had to provide recommendations, and had to undergo a DBS check. You were just hoping that you would find the child that you wanted to adopt as your own after how rigorous the background tests and paperwork was.
It was a wet Tuesday afternoon when the phone rang. You decided to answer, as Harry was far too nervous. He sat right next to you though, trying to gage what the person on the other end of the phone was saying. He took your hand in his, rubbing circles into your thumb; an attempt at trying to calm himself down as well as trying to get you through the phone call too.
“Hi, is this Miss Y/L/N and Mr Lewis?” The feminine voice on the other side asked. You confirmed that it was you, as you nervously anticipated what she was about to say.
“I’m pleased to inform you that you’ve been accepted to adopt. We have also found a child that we would like you to come and meet tomorrow. It’s a little girl, she doesn’t have any health issues and she is three years of age.”
You agreed to go and meet your prospective child, the excitement finally hitting you. Although you weren’t going to be this child’s biological mother, you were sure you could be able to love her as if she was your biological daughter, and that’s all that mattered really.
You turned to Harry and told him, as you both jumped up and hugged each other. Being able to bask in your excitement for a few moments.
“I always wanted a little girl, and I guess we don’t need to go through the many sleepless nights.” He beamed.
The next day, you were woken up by Harry. As you rolled over, checking the alarm clock next to you it was nine in the morning. Harry being out of bed before you, meant that he was beyond excited. He loved his sleep more than anything.
You both got dressed and made your way to the adoption agency. A mixture of nervousness and excitement filled the car journey. Neither of you knowing what to say, but enjoying it nonetheless.
As you walked in hand in hand, the confirmation that you were doing the right thing by yourselves set in. The children’s finger paintings that hung on the walls, was something that you were missing in your house. It was going to be chaotic, but living with Harry already provided that. It wasn’t going to be out of the norm.
A social worker, the one who you had assumed had phoned you escorted you into the office. She went over some of the essentials, things you needed to know about the process, things you were and weren’t allowed to say in order to not only protect yourself, but the child too. After the brief meeting, you were told that she was going to go and get the little girl, and told you to sit there.
A few moments later, the social worker emerged again, this time with a little girl in tow. A brown teddy girl hung limply from the girls other hand, as she hid behind the social worker. Obviously a little bit timid.
Harry got up from his chair, and walked around to her, bending down on his knees before offering her a handshake. “Hi little lady, my name’s Harry. What’s yours?”
“My name’s Olivia.” She responded, her voice small. Still unsure.
You got up from your chair, following Harry’s example and bending down on your knees too.
“I’m Y/N.” You said, introducing yourself. “That teddy bear is really cute. I used to have one, just like him called Mr. Snuggles.” You continued, giving the girl a small smile.
“Did you have to rescue him from the hundred acre wood too?” Olivia asked, intrigued.
“Oh, I had to fight off the fiercest lions and snakes for him.” You responded, playfully. Which caused Olivia to giggle.
“So, Olivia… we were wondering if you’d like to come out on a picnic to the park with us?” Harry asked her. “We can make sure that teddy comes along too, we promise that we’ll fight off any lions and snakes that threaten him.”
“As long as you push me really high on the swings.”
Harry nodded, assuring her they had a deal. Olivia took your hand as you led her to the car, and strapped her into the children’s car seat that you had purchased the night before.
Harry drove you the short distance to the local park. She took Harry’s hand this time, still clinging onto her teddy bear. Which you presumed provided her with a sense of security that she craved.
As soon as she entered the playground, she made a beeline for the swings. Harry, having to hit a slow jog to be able to keep up with her. He fulfilled his promise of pushing her as high as he could, whilst not going too high for fear of scaring her. As you looked on and watched, you knew that Olivia was the little person that was going to make your family whole. She fit perfectly. She was the family that you had chosen.
