PART II of my super long aotd thoughts (and prayers) commentary/analysis extravanganza🤪

warning: spoilers. repetition of words/expressions hehe. badly written (english is not my first language lol). looong text. curse words. biased opinions because this is my blog and i get to do with it as i please.

previously: part I

Murderface slowly begins to be taken over: oooh boooy. now this arc, oof. i really like this arc. Murderface is a dick. a lot of times during the show i found myself losing my temper at him. but he adds a lot of fun to the band dynamic and it’s very sweet whenever we get to see more of him outside his shitty ego-driven behavior. a lot of my favorite episodes are those where we get glimpses of how much pain Murderface hides under his shitty personality. and this movie went ballistic on developing his character! big big fan. it was genuinely terrifying (for me at least lol) to see him deal with horrible visions by himself. he is scared but also doesn’t do much to fight it? and we never see him seek help, which adds salt to the wound. he is like that after all: he holds very little regard for his own safety and when things are serious he doesn’t trust anyone to help him. he puts on long sleeves and keeps going. Salacia was actually smart to get him and exploit his fears and weaknesses, but that’s exactly why i hate him with my whole being.

Establishing band roles and brewing conflict: Knubbler carried this entire section of the movie, case CLOSED. he is funny, sassy, he knows how to deal with the boys and the man knows about music. he is the best man for the job and i love him for that. also he planted the seed of the family trope and that’s gospel. moving on, i really like how the writing challenge was presented: the central subject being to deliver a message and reach out to those important to you. moving on, yeah yeah nickels band parents, nothing new. sister Toki is my favorite thing ever and Skwisgaar IS the older brother, argue with the wall. but MURDERFACE!!! the way he talks about his role on he band was heartbreaking. my man has no self-esteem and that’s tragic. it’s also a great parallel between him and Nathan, who also doesn’t seem to know his own place in the band (and in the world). they both need to work on themselves and THAT’S the movie, actually. Skwisgaar and previously Pickles are very focused and Toki keeps his colorful thinking and joyful manners and that really healed something in me. finally, the slow zoom on Murderface as he listens to the band talk shit about him made a hole in my heart. the following scene of him in his bedroom was genuinely chilling and it establishes how he was going to sabotage the song of salvation. great work.

Nathan vs the internet: ANOTHER AMAZING SCENE. dethklok vs tabloids/bad press is 1. a very fitting commentary of what fame and stars have to deal with and 2. something we know does get to them because it was established on the show before (Dethvanity). the fact that it comes back to haunt Nathan now at his lowest is just genius. it continues building up tension and it’s exquisite. the headline “Explosion in Flop Era” was not in my bingo cards but ugh it’s GREAT, and the “Brave Woman Refuses Proposal” was amazing to see, because it’s true! Abigail was very brave for standing her ground and we should say it. also, i liked it even more because women tend to be treated horribly in the media and considering Abigail is a character that even fans of the show cursed and trashed irl, i like that this movie went against that. i absolutely adore how Nathan called his parents for advice/support (and we get to see baby Nathan yipee! and they have a cat??? cute), his relationship with his parents is very important and i like that it was acknowledged even in such a short scene.

TRAINING MONTAGE YIPEE!!!: the Knubbler rage fit was so great. i laughed so much. he is such a drama queen and yeah go off babe!!! then the scene establishing the guitar tuner??? genius. it also hints that Toki lost practice and some of his abilities after dsr and that’s just great storywise, i love when events have consequences lol. the scene of Murderface discovering the army was sooo cool, and Skwisgaar following??? tbh i’m a sucker for every Skwisgaar moment in this franchise, he is amazing and he IS the moment. and the way he speaks to Murderface the morning after??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? sexiest man alive PERIOD. moving on, Pickles cheering Nathan as he climbs to the tree was so cute! it carries on with his desperation on being Nathan’s boy best friend™, and how concerned he looks when Nathan doesn’t make it to the top is perfect because it means that he thinks he is failing himself at being a good friend. moving on, Nathan struggling to write was so cool! the lines “i don’t know what salvation is” “hope isn’t a metal concept” “people don’t come to me for salvation” and “i sing about death” were so raw in my opinion, and so true! Nathan is a lyrical genius and in universe people live AND die for his gutsy, bloody, brutal lyrics. but he could also feel caged because of that same reason. if he wishes for something more, something not brutal like a family and being happy, he must feel like he isn’t allowed those things. they’re not for him. they’re not what he does. and he even shows doubt about what he is good at, as he is now lacking confidence due to Murderface’s previous doings. and when Knubbler asks if that’s what he feels is the song of salvation he just… gives up. he doesn’t think the song is going to save anyone, but he is too scared and sad to try anything else. it’s also painful how after Murderface says “i think this plan sucks” Nathan goes and scratches out the “band” from his list. yeah, he doesn’t communicate with them. he gives up and closes off.

if the world is ending, do drugs!: ok first of all, great sequence. seeing Nathan in different stages of his life was so so BEAUTIFUL. from birth to death, repeating over and over. NOW, THE WHALE. REAL QUEEN. so powerful so calm so cool so wise. i really like seeing Nathan communicate with her (if i’m getting wrong the pronouns please correct me hehe). he looks so sincere and honest, even when he’s telling her how scared he is. it’s refreshing to see him being vulnerable. and the words of the whale are deep, both reassuring and challenging. i really like how she says that basically Nathan writing the “wrong” song is what’s meant to happen, because the real challenge is what he will do afterwards. it’s self-explanatory tho, so i won’t say much. but yeah, i really like all this scene. especially because i share that headcannon of Nathan having visions of the ocean/the whale for all his life. it makes this encounter face to face much more significant.

world’s worst salvation concert: i am a sucker for the parallels between the scenes of the equipment getting ready and Knubbler religiously preparing for the song. FACEBONES IS BACK! GOOD SHIT! when Nathan, SECONDS before starting the song asks himself if this is wrong or not was AMAZING!!! i loved the vertigo of him being already there: no way out, no turn back, no second chances, no time to think. it’s even better when you remember just how distant he is from the rest of the band. nobody else knows how unsure he is (except for Murderface, for obvious reasons) and so he is standing there, in the middle of the stage, fearing that he won’t be able to save anyone. seeing him look fucking terrified as his cue to sing approaches is ugh, cinema. the sequence of people dying was very funny actually, because it felt so much like the early seasons of the show. horrible, absurd and extreme deaths is basically the first thing we see of dethklok back in season 1 so it’s nostalgic. very good sequence. now, when the song cuts off and we see Knubbler concerned i promise you i was holding my heart in my throat. the helicopters in the distance, flying on the bloody red sky is such an amazing visual i can’t stop thinking about it! the concern on Knubbler’s face when he says “how did they find us” is chilling because, if you think about it, Knubbler is actually kind of a normal person, and that’s saying a lot because everyone on this show is on some weird shit. yeah he jokes around and it’s playful and seems relaxed but he is actually very sensible. he is one of the few people working with dethklok who does his job well, takes it seriously and is not afraid to tell the boys when they’re being idiots. the man has recorded albums with dethklok AND survived! and we know just how messy the boys are, professionally speaking. so seeing him be visibly concerned and scared in this scene got me panicking. and when he screams to the boys to run UGH. i choked up. again, he’s worked with them a long time and has gotten to care for them, even when he runs out of patience. and the fact that he’s now also involved in this huge save-the-world plan it’s jarring! imagine if the 5 irresponsible menchildren you’ve been working with, who you’ve cared for and called out and had fun with so many times are suddenly the chosen ones and you have to save their asses once again, this time with the entire world at stake. that’s INSANE.

Chaos™: Toki’s immediate concern over Skwisgaar is just wow. my fucking heart :(((. the look of terror on everyone’s face is amazing and, dare i say, fear is one of the biggest character developments the band goes through together. they’ve seen sooo much fucked up shit in ther lives, individually AND as a group, countless deaths, bloody and gutsy and brutal, but they almost never showed horror before. THIS is what terrifies them. the idea that not only they’re about to die (i have a theory that the boys don’t really fear death, outside of Toki and Skwisgaar maybe), but also the idea that they ultimately failed and everything is just: going to end. they didn’t even finish the song, they weren’t able to reconnect with their fans, they weren’t able to say goodbye to anyone, and nobody’s coming to save them. i actually like the drama of this scene, it adds a lot of weight to the middle of the movie, but i also absolutely HATE IT because fuuuck. the klokateers!!! i should be desensitized by now because we’ve seen klokateers be killed horribly during the entirety of the show but ugh i guess it never stops hurting. they are people, with lives and hearts. yeah they voluntarily and knowingly become gears to protect and sacrifice their lives for dethklok, but it still hurts to see them die. i get it from a storytelling point, because this makes dethklok more desperate and the viewers fear Salacia and the tribunal a little more, but yeah, i don’t enjoy it :(. also, Murderface running away as he screams “please, get out of my head” broke my heart. we see on the show Crozier going through his own personal hell when Salacia mind-controls him, but Murderface sounds in so much pain when he screams. he sounds so helpless, and knowing Salacia must be having a blast in his mind exploiting every single one of his fears, it’s jarring. idk, Murderface is a dick and has done very stupid things but as i watched this movie i found myself wanting to protect him so many times. maybe he is my baby now, who knows.

i’ll end this part here because one of the most painful portions of the movie is coming and i have so much to say it’s not going to fit here. but behold.

I'll do both because it seems like fun and I want to differentiate them

Top 5 DRA Characters

1. Akane

As far as supporting characters go, Akane Taira is certianly up there. She’s positive and very trusting of those she hold dear to, which is very heartbreaking seeing how she dull and empty she became at the start of chapter 3. And of course we have to talk about her mastermind personality. I think it is very shocking how someone so close to the cast, especially the protagonist could be the mastermind behind their killing game. It’s like Tsumugi done right! Not much has changed about her from her time with the cast, she’s just very unhinged and incredibly acrobatic to make all those leaps. Look at her go. I like Akane a lot out of the main cast and dare say she even beats some of the canon characters in most aspects.

2. Rei

Female and Better Byakuya. I’m kinda cheating here honestly this list is of DRA characters but I’m also taking into account her time from SDRA2 sooooooooo…..Rei. Like I said previously, obviously a female Byakuya, I mean she even shares some of the same sprites as him as well as the notes. A tall, smart, and stuck-up jerk who constantly berates the crew and doesn’t want to put up with them for a majority of the run time. Golly, where have I seen this before?~ The reason why she is so much better than her predecessor comes down to two factors. One, her growth comes from not finding the game boring or not wanting to participate like long legged lemon boy, but rather; “…..well fuck. These sentiments got to me. Now I have to help” And two, how she behaves when we next see her in other material, primarily SDRA2. She’s a lot more emotional and compassionate, even striking Tsurugi during that shit he pulled in Chapter 6. Like, let’s go girl! Yaaas! Get hiiiim! Queen shit!

3. Utsuro

I want to go more in depth on the masterminds at a later date, so for now I’ll just say I’m very on the fence about. There are some days I like him and some days I don’t. But I will say that the twist of the protagonist being the mastermind was done really here, and in order to get to the true ending, you have to go down the darker path which is a really nice twist and one I can’t say I could have done better.

4. Teruya

Also kind of cheating with this one but uhhh…sue me :/ Anyway, Teruya was one of the comedic goofballs right behind Haruhiko and Satsuki. Single brain cell trio. I also love his growth, from fighting with Haruhiko in Chapter 4 to wearing his goggles the rest of the game, that character design I love to see! And it carries over in the sequel too. Having Teruya be the one with the killing game experience is a neat concept, even if that aspect wasn’t used all that much. A shame what happened to him though(STUPIDFUCKINGPSYCHOCOPTSURUGIIHATEYOUIHATEYOU-)

5. Kanata

Kanata is a sweet girl, nothing more too it than that. But there ain’t nothing wrong with being a simple, polite, short cinnamon bun. And it really was a shame she had to go like that, I would have liked her to stick around some more. And I’m kind of interested to see what really was LINUJ’s intended purpose for her was……..y’know considering another character he made in the sequel, I don’t want to know actually, Nevermind.

Top 5 SDRA2 Characters

1. Sora

I want to go more in depth with the protagonist’s another day too, but let me just say that SORA IS AN AWESOME CHARACTER AND PROTAGONIST! HELD BACK BY THE FACT THAT SHE ISNT ENTIRELY CANON! SHE WOULD DO GREAT THERE! Ahem! …..Sorry. I love everything about Sora, her sassy attitude, her snarky comments, even hints of showing something darker within her. Sora is a top tier character in my book!

2. Mikado

Also want to talk more about him at a later date, but Mikado is my favorite mastermind! Hands down, bar none, literally beating all of the ones from the main cast! Revealing him right from the jump was genius, because then it was the cast constantly hating him and roasting him. He’s so wacky and goofy that for half of the game, you kinda forget he even is the mastermind. From his charming personality to his cool design and powers, Mikado Sannoji carries the entire game on his back along with Sora.

3. Yoruko

A pink haired love interest for the sassy amnesiac protagonist? Where have I seen this before?~ In all seriousness I think Yoruko’s cool. Her angry behavior and yelling at others can get old at times and some are even unwarranted such in Chapter 4 to Yuki, but underneath that facade lies a girl that is trying her best to protect those close to her after some many hardships in the past. Her relationship is Sora is just adorable and it’s crazy that after Chapter 4 and beyond, she’s the most sane person there. Yoruko may be a tsun-dried-tomato, but she’s the best tsun-dried-tomato Ive ever seen. (Can tomatoes be pink?)

4. Hibiki

Before playing the game: Oh wow, a bully character to the shy girl, again?! Oh geeeez! I can already tell I’m not gonna like her.

After playing the game: OH MY GOOOOD! IM SORRY HIBIKI SWEETIE! DID NOT DESERVE ANY OF THAT!

Getting right to it, I think Hibiki should have survived! Unlike Hiyoko who’s only character development relegated to a blink and you’ll miss it moment in the third chapter. Hibiki was trying from the end of Chapter 2 onwards, so why waste the actually, good, DEVELOPMENT?! I guess it is interesting to see a Chapter 3 with only one victim and two killers this time, but there was no need to drag Hibiki down with it. The general consensus is right, this was wasted potential. Go look up some Hibiki lives AU to ease the pain.

5. Iroha

Ahto-Bleh incarnate. Iroha seemed like the overly kind, ditzy sort of character made for comedic relief, and she is. But making her out to be one of the voids was pretty neat I suppose. It does set her up for some development to overthrow and turn her back Mikado to be with her friends and, …wait what? That, that didn’t happen…? ……GOD FUCKING DAMMIT LINUJ! So Iroha just stays this bratty, annoying, and fearful child the whole way through and learns nary a thing in the process. So I have to ask: why even bother?! Now you may be wondering, why is she high let alone top 5 if I have these issues with her. Well for one, I think she’s kind of funny with all her reactions and expressions, plus knowing the identity of one of the Voids in the group builds tension, and her drawing book has helped several times in trials. And it could just be me imagining a better character than what we actually received. Death to the author folks!

All he wanted was to see her one last time, and it didn't matter that he would never get her forgiveness. He just didn't want her to leave him, leave them.

Grace stood up the second he walked in and she knew she had to ask.

"Is this it?" She whispered.

He took off his cap and coat as he set them down on the hook and he just looked at her.

"What do you want me to say? I chose you?"

"So everything we did-"

"It's always been her. Always. If I have to hurt you just to see her again, then so be it. I won't chose anyone over my son or her."

Her eyes went wide as she began to sob softly. He walked past her as she held onto the table for support.

"Did you ever... ever care? About me?"

He stopped and he couldn't meet her eyes.

"In some way.... I did."

She sat next to the bed looking down at Byron. His mouth was open as his nostrils flared with each breath as he slept. She stifled a quiet laugh and moved his body into a more comfortable position. If he was anything like his father, the boy would be a heartbreaker with the mere glance of his eyes.

She pressed the softest and most loving kiss on his forehead before heading to her room and getting changed. She set down the necklace he gave her, one of the only things she kept, and looked at the light blue color. She always carried his eyes with her. Whether it be in the form of Byron or his necklace, she had him with her. It wasn’t like she didn’t love him anymore, or she didn’t care about him.

Oh sweet heavens and stars, he was everything. Words could not describe the love they had for one another. It was… pure, spontaneous. And dangerous at best. Yes, at best.

She wasn’t going to do things this way with him. She was going to tell him, she just didn’t know how. In the market, she was going to prepare a nice dinner and send a note for him to stop by her place. But seeing him with someone else was painful. Painful in the sense that he had moved on and she didn’t. But she should have expected it.

Looking back at everything, she wondered if she had forgiven him. Would he have stopped cheating? Would it happen again?

She’d never know.

She couldn’t deprive him of seeing Byron, she wasn’t that mean. But Byron was now her world. Her funny little boy that was far too sassy for this world. He wanted to be a chef, and if Thomas knew about this-

Well…

Perhaps she was a bit curious as to what he would do with his own child wanting to be a chef or even just a pastry chef.

She fell asleep after tossing and turning about. Thomas was most likely going to see her tomorrow, but she needed to see some other people before they went forward with anything.

Polly Gray stood in shock. She was just as beautiful as the day she left. She held a hand to her lips and choked back a gasp.

“Hi, Polls.”

She went forward and held the girl close to her chest.

“You smart, silly, stupid girl. Why didn’t you come to me!” She sighed.

Byron looked up at his mother with the lady. Clearly his mother was fine with her.

‘….okay…. She’s good. I suppose,’ he thought.

“I didn’t want things to be messy. I just wanted us to get out and leave…” (Y/n) smiled weakly and stepped aside to put a hand on Byron’s shoulder.

Polly looked down at the boy.

“Sweet Mary and Joseph, he looks just like Tommy when he was a boy.” She gasped and eyed him.

“I don’t believe you. Mum says I’m a very handsome boy, if I’m anything like my father I’m not handsome.” He huffed and crossed his arms.

“Sweet boy, you may look like him. But it’s your mother that’s in you that makes you such a great child. Come in, you can have some biscuits and tea while your mother and I talk.”

Byron trudged past the woman and into the kitchen. Polly pulled out a tin and went to heat up some tea.

“I can do it. Mum let’s me make the tea in our household after she burnt the kettle.”

“It was one time!” (Y/n) sputtered and Byron smirked.

“One time enough! You two have important things to talk about, shoo!” He gestured to them and Polly stifled a chuckle.

“Bossy boy, he is.” She teased and they went into the betting den.

It was empty this morning. (Y/n) noticed almost everything was updated and they had installed more desks. She sat down at the main table that had many many family meetings and Polly sat across from her

“Tell me about his…wife.” She said gently.

Polly didn’t know what to say.

She never did like her.

“They aren’t married by law. He never filed papers.”

“I know… on some documents for Byron I have Thomas down as an emergency contact….” She looked down at her hands sheepishly, “I was going to tell him. I was. That’s why I came back, I was going to have a dinner and send a letter to him so we can discuss it over dinner. But then he had a woman with him. A woman with a ring.”

“I’ll be honest with you, darling. The marriage was out of lust. She worked as a spy and your man was just blind to the truth.”

“My man… you say it as if that’s true.” She scoffed.

“It is. Everything he has done is to make up for you. Grace is just one of his mistakes.”

She pressed her hand against the necklace, “I do love him. I really do. But everything is just messy, so mess-“

“OI! POLL! THERE IS A CHILD IN THE KITCHEN- OI DON’T-“

“MUM! THERE IS A MAN IN MY KITCHEN!” Byron called back and both Polly and (Y/n) sighed and came over.

“YOU GET OUT OF HERE!”

“NO! I’m making tea, you ninny!”

“NINNY!?! WHO ARE YOU CALLING A NINNY, YOU…YOU!”

“Arthur!” (Y/n) said unexpectedly and the man that was pointing a finger at Byron froze at the voice.

His eyes went wide then he had the biggest smile.

“(Y/n)! You’re back!” He swooped her up and (Y/n) chuckled.

“Down, you mongrel. Polls and I were just having a conversation. And you made Byron annoyed!”

He looked her in the eyes and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

“Byron aye? Strong name…Take him back, would ya? You’re the only one for him.”

(Y/n) just smiled and sighed, “I can’t just take a married man away from his wife.”

“Meh. You can if they aren’t legally married. I’ll take Byron around the town! Meet everyone! If…if that’s okay with you.” He pulled back and looked at the boy who was eyeing him with curiosity.

“It’s fine with me. But ask him. He has a mind of his own.”

“Mum. This man wanted to kick me out of the kitchen. What makes you think I want to go with him?”

Arthur chuckled, “He has your fire, that’s for sure.”

(Y/n) just sighed, “He is your uncle on your fathers side. Go on, you might like this shit town if he shows you all the best places to go.”

Byron frowned and set down a dish towel he had in hand, (Y/n) only assumed he was going to use it to hit Arthur. But the two left and (Y/n) looked back at Polly.

The older woman just pulled her close.

“If you don’t want him back. Please just stay here. You’ve been gone far too long. Aye?”

Byron and Arthur walked down the street with the older man occasionally glancing at him.

“You are the spitting-“

“Image of my father. That’s what Mum always says.” Byron sighed.

Arthur chuckled, “Aye…”

Byron looked up at the kind man, “Did they love each other?”

He just nodded, “Very very much. Sometimes when you love someone, you hurt them. And that’s what my brother did to sweet (Y/n). I won’t say it was an accident, he knew what he was doing. But that never meant he never loved your mother.”

Byron huffed, “He thinks he can just walk back here and take Mum back. He doesn’t know she’s a strong woman. Scary too…”

This made them both laugh.

“Come on, kid. We have other people to meet.”

“More! Do I have grandparents? Mum never talks about her family.” His eyes seemed to light up.

“No grandparents, my boy. But Polly might as well be. Aside from me you have an Uncle John and his wife Esme and Uncle Finn. Auntie Ada who has a boy your age, and an Uncle Michael and his wife Gina, they have a baby on the way.”

Byron’s smile widened, “Wow… that’s a lot of family members! For so long it was just Mum and I….”

When they walked into the Garrison, everyone was still slow since it was the morning. But they were meeting here first before going to a race at the derby. Arthur had a feeling they would be missing it.

“Oi! You didn’t bring Pol?” John huffed and leaned against the counter.

“Pressing matters, Johnny boy! Tommy’s son and I are painting this town!”

“Tom’s son? I didn’t even know he had a son?” Michael’s eyes furrowed.

“You’re hers?” Ada stood up and came over.

Byron just smiled, “I am.”

Ada looked at Arthur with wide eyes, “Please don’t tell me your kidnapped him!”

“No! Gods no! I could take this old man if he tired. Mum let him take me around Small Heath while she talked to Miss Polly…er…Aunt Polly?” He looked up at Arthur and he chuckled.

“Already part of the family. We will have to cancel the derby. I have a feeling everything will just get bigger from here.”

Byron looked at all the happy faces watching him. His mother was definitely someone special to them.

“Aye. Well, might as well spend the day with the boy. I’m Ada, this is John and Finn. Esme, Michael and Gina. This here is my son Carl.”

The boy came forward and he looked just as excited as him.

“Come on! Uncle John’s kids are in the back!” Carl pulled him away and Arthur looked at Ada.

They just hoped that Polly was telling (Y/n) that like would be better if she was here.

Grace packed up her things and waited and waited for him to say something as she did so. He didn’t say anything. He just smoked his cigarette and watched her. Perhaps this was even worse than anything in the world. He didn’t even try.

When she got her bags finished he stood up and came over to her. He was quiet for a minute before he pressed one kiss to her lips and sighed.

“Someone is out there for you. It’s not a bad man like me.”

She swallowed thickly, “Why can’t it be you?”

“Because. We are too different. You know it.”

She looked into his eyes and bit her lip.

“Aberama can take you anywhere you want to go, just tell him. If you want me to know where you are, just tell me. But you know what I’m going to do now.”

She scoffed and clenched her jaw, “Fuck you, Thomas Shelby. I hope she never takes you back.”

She grabbed her luggage and left Arrow House and he stood watching her leave. It was a possibility that getting rid of Grace would not end up well. He was cruel. A year of their…love… gone within hours. Maybe even seconds, the seconds he used when he saw her. Part of him was hurting and a larger part of him felt relief. He needed her back. He needed his salvation back, and his future back.

When the car drove and turned right to head into the city instead of turning left to head to Birmingham, he got in his own car and went back to the small town where she would be.

The hour drive was long. Possibly even longer than normal due to: cows passing through, a bridge being worked on, a sink hole manifesting itself smack in the middle of the road. It was a sign of sorts. It made him think twice about what he was going to do.

It left him annoyed and tired. By the time he got to Small Heath, it was noon. He went to stop by her place first, but there was no one there.

Where else would she have-

Oh.

It clicked. He scurried over to Watery Lane and burst open the door. Ada, Arthur, John and Polly were laughing with (Y/n) as Byron and Finn attempted to make bread. Really, Byron was throwing flour at Finn for messing up a loaf.

He stood in the doorway shocked. She was here.

This scene…it looked like something right out of his fantasy. (Y/n) home with him, his family happy, a child of his young and healthy-

“Thomas.” (Y/n) said as her laughter died down.

“I…I went to your place to see you…”

Polly gestured for everyone to clear out and they did so. Even Byron trailed after Ada with Carl. When she closed the betting door, silence came over them.

She looked at him. Just watching him.

“She’s gone. Grace…she left.”

"And you let her?" She said with surprise, she didn't even know it came out of her mouth. He too was surprised with it, and he was speechless. Didn't she want him to be devoted to her?

"I..."

"I-I just thought it was serious. Tommy-" She sat down at a chair and looked at him.

"I will say it a million times if I have to." He knelt before her and held her hands, "Its you. It has always been you and will always be you. I spent ten years without my twin flame and life was never the same. Grace... I cared for Grace in a way that would never compare to you. I wouldn't have been happy in that marriage and she knows it too. I travel through hell just to even get a second of your time-“

“Please…stop.” She said and held back tears, “Just stop.”

She pulled her hands away and sobbed into her hands. Her chest hurt.

“Why didn’t you say these things all those years ago? Why did you do those things?”

“I made a mistake. I was a shite husband, but I promise you… I promise Byron, it’s always been you.” His voice was just as broken as she was at this point.

He grabbed her hands again and pulled them down to look at her face, “You think I won’t care just the same as I did with Grace. Is that it?”

She nodded and bit her lip, “I can’t let you destroy me again. I fear it’ll ruin Byron.”

“One chance. Just one. We can start slow, try again from the beginning.”

This made her chuckle slightly, “I hated your fucking guts in the beginning.”

“I bet you do now, right?” He said lightly with a smirk.

(Y/n) just looked at him fondly, “I don’t. I don’t think I could ever hate you. Disappointed and hurt, yea. But hate? Not anymore.”

He looked at her hand and pulled out a ring.

“I still carry this with me everywhere. It’s been a lucky charm for me, always leading me to something good. Will you wear it?”

She looked at it. The ring was nothing flashy or special. White gold with two small diamonds on either side of an emerald-cut sapphire with floral like engravings on the side.

She nodded and he put it on. She felt the same as she did the day they got married. Their wedding bands were special, yes, but this ring was the second piece of jewelry he bought her. First was the necklace. This was their engagement ring. It was the beginning of a new life with one another, and same as it was back then… this would be a new life.

Both of them looked at it before he placed a soft kiss to her finger.

She forgave him a long time before she came to Small Heath. If she didn’t forgive him, then she wouldn’t have loved Byron. She was just wary of him. But it was a year since the date she wore her ring again. And a year since she came back to town.

The market was filled with even more people as Byron ran down each aisle pointing out only the freshest ingredients. Thomas had a small smile on his lips as (Y/n) looked her arm through his.

“Ah! Mister and Missus Shelby! Beautiful day today, innit?” A stall man smiled.

“It is, really. Beautiful for a day in the market.” He nodded and glanced back at (Y/n).

She just beamed.

“DAD! YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE CARRYING MY STUFF! NOT FLIRTING WITH MUM!”

My Ranking of the Sohmas from Fruits Basket

Back in late May 2020, I began to watch the 2019 reboot of Fruits Basket (I first discovered it from my good friend @sweet-chinchilla), and it's become one of my favorite anime series EVER. At the end of September 2021, I was finally able to finish the series, and I loved EVERY MOMENT of it! I felt like to do a ranking of each of the Sohmas from least favorite to top favorite (I'll try to keep it brief because there are 14 CHARACTERS to discuss!)

Also, if you haven't read the original manga and/or seen the 2019 anime, there will be MAJOR SPOILERS ahead!

13. Kagura Sohma (my least favorite)

The first female cursed Sohma I was introduced to. As much as I liked Tia Ballard as her in the dub, I just did not care for Kagura. Sure, she eventually moved on from it, but it kinda annoyed me how she kept pursuing Kyo despite him being not all that interested in being her boyfriend. Also, I know she had good intentions to talk some sense into Tohru, but knowing how violent she gets, was it really necessary to SLAP HER?!

12. Hiro Sohma

There was a point where I hated him more than Kagura. I did not like how he was such a brat and jerk when we were first introduced to him, but slowly, I warmed up to him. His crush on Kisa is adorable, and him growing to become a responsible big brother was just too sweet.

11. Shigure AND Akito Sohma (they're pretty much tied in this position)

Shigure is someone I'd like to call a "Sly Dog". He's a bit of a scumbag, but he's well aware of it. He's also one of those characters that's either "lawful evil" or "true neutral". He provides a lot of comedy in the anime including him being just a smart-ass. Also, when he's not acting like a jerk/creep, he's a pretty decent guardian figure for Tohru.

As for Akito, she's a beautifully written antagonist/character in general, and she's definitely someone I pity. Sure, much of her actions are unforgivable, but I feel like she's not expecting everyone to forgive her that easily (or at all even). Also, Colleen Clinkenbeard's performance as her is nothing short of spectacular.

10. Ritsu Sohma

To be honest, he needed way more love! I know people found him annoying, but part of me relates with constantly saying "I'm sorry!" over the smallest of things. He's a gorgeous character that I feel like deserves better. He'd be higher if that were the case, and if not for some of these other characters.

9. Kureno Sohma

I didn't expect to like him that much, but I do! Part of it is that charm that comes with most characters Ian Sinclair voice in the dub (his performance in the s2 finale was especially amazing). He's just a sweet and kind man, and I can see why Uotani fell for him and also reminded her of Tohru. Only complaint I have is that I wished there was a flashback scene of him transforming before his curse broke. I would've loved to see his Zodiac form at least once.

8. Isuzu "Rin" Sohma

Another character I didn't expect to love. Rin is a very tragic character, and what she had to go through was devastating, but seeing her being able to heal was just as emotional. Brina Palencia was amazing as her and is easily my favorite role of hers.

7. Kyo Sohma

Yeah, he's a little lower, but I don't love him as much as the ones that follow. However, he's still a GREAT character, and deserves so much after meeting Tohru. Kyo would sometimes remind me of Bakugo, but he's also a true cat. Feisty, acts like they dislike people but has a real soft spot (especially towards one person). Also, this was my favorite role by Jerry Jewell.

6. Ayame Sohma

The Sassy Snake himself. Oh, how much I LOVE Ayame! Like Shigure, he provides a good portion of the humor to the anime. Chris Sabat's performance as him is mind-blowing but also amazing (since most of his well-known roles are tough guys). Ayame is just so extra, and I love it. Also, his love towards Mine is sweet and I kinda wished we got more moments between them.

5. Momiji Sohma

The boy who was possessed by my Zodiac animal, the Rabbit! I strongly prefer how he looked before his growth spurt, but Momiji is just a precious bunny boy. It is heartbreaking to see that he's suffered and feels sad, but he's just so pure and precious. I hope the one he fell in love with makes him feel so happy.

4. Hatsuharu Sohma

This is who I like to call the "Bi Himbo Ox". Haru was instantly one of my favorites because he just cracks me up, he's super handsome (the studio behind the 2019 reboot really just made everyone look pretty), and also Justin Cook's performance as him. As much as I adore Kirishima, Justin showed off and executed the range of Haru's dumb, sweet, loyal, seductive, and harsh personality. Also, his love for Rin is adorable and him and Yuki is definitely one of my favorite crack ships.

3. Kisa Sohma

The precious tiger cub. I adore this sweet little girl so much, and how she looks up to Tohru like an older sister is so adorable! She's a precious angel that deserves SO MUCH LOVE. And I ALWAYS smile whenever I see her on-screen. And speaking of that last part...

2. Hatori Sohma

I don't know what it is, but upon first introduction, I've been drawn to him and he quickly became a favorite. There's just something so comforting about Hatori, from his kind and no-nonsense personality, prettiness (as mentioned, the 2019 anime animators make everyone look pretty), and his voice (all thanks to Kent Williams' performance). Hatori also has some of his moments of being a little silly, but it's due to the chaos he deals with whenever he's around Shigure and/or Ayame. Out of the Three Musketeers, he's my favorite.

1. Yuki Sohma

He was an INSTANT favorite of not only the Sohmas, but of the entire series, and seeing him grow makes me so happy! I also love how kind and gentle he is, and lemme tell you. This was the first anime I've seen after My Hero Academia, so hearing Eric Vale as Yuki was WILD (same can be said about Jerry as Kyo), because I was used to his creepy and chilling performance as Tomura Shigaraki. But hearing him as Yuki was amazing and it made me appreciate him as a voice actor. SO FREAKING TALENTED. If you wanna know how much I love Yuki, I have his Funko Pop! figure, which captures his beautiful likeness well.

The Hawk X Demetri Manifesto

Okay, here is the thing. Despite being well past my teens, there's a particular ship of Cobra Kai that has drawn my attention, this ship being Hawk/Eli x Demetri. When I first watched the show, I was actually more invested in the adult characters storylines than the teens. I immediately rooted for Johnny and Carmen, and I was always hoping for more interactions between them. But then I saw episode 2x05, in which the atmosphere between the Binary Brothers becomes way more dense, and that's when I started to see some potential for them. Not because I'm a deranged person who fosters abusive relationships, but because I immediately caught the hurt/comfort dynamic of the duo, which is something that works really well when it comes to fictional relationships. However, it wasn't until 3x10 that I said, "Ok, that's official, I need to see more of these two! I totally support them!" And I was quite surprised to find a fairly large amount of people who are very committed to this pairing, to the point it's caught the attention of the screenwriters/producers as well. Honestly, I don't know if the showrunners will ever have the guts to make them an official couple, and chances are their supporters will have to keep reading between the lines of their bromance, but in any case, here is my take on why Hawk/Eli x Demetri is an option worth to be considered.

#1 - The Bromance

If there's something that many years of navigating the Internet taught me, is that the main driving factor for fan-made ships is the presence of either a solid relationship based on mutual brotherly love or a bitter rivalry that may or may not flow into hate/obsession. If you consider anime fandoms, there are thousand examples that fit into either of these categories: Yugi and Jonouchi from the Yu-Gi-Oh series (yes, that's how old I am), Yugi and Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh, Sakuragi and Rukawa from Slam Dunk, Light and L from Death Note, etc. And our Hawk and Demetri fit into both categories. When we first see them, they are the stereotypical nerdy friends (possibly childhood friends?) sitting at the losers' table, who have no one else but each other. When Eli is at his most sensitive and fragile, you can tell he feels comfortable being with Demetri by the genuine smile he has on his face as Demetri is joking with Miguel at the canteen table. Through his sarcasm, the mouthy kid acts as a catalyst to deviate the attention from Eli, speaking for him, reprimanding Johnny when he makes fun of his lip and trying to make him feel safe. Besides, you can see a certain degree of frustration in Demetri when Kyler and his gang are harassing Eli, and he's unable to do anything to defend him. And they even have a jingle for their friendship with a robot dance, I mean, how cute is that? But of course, a solid friendship between two helpless nerdy guys is not enough to spark a ship to be rooting for. In order for the magic to happen, another key ingredient is needed, i.e. a little bit of angst. Which brings us straight to the next point.

#2 - The Angst (aka the Hurt/Comfort Dynamic)

Even though I never liked the Twilight saga or any similar urban fantasy young adult works, I can easily see where the appeal comes from; the attraction to a charming, dangerous person who could either protect you from any harm or crush you like grape. Although with different franchises, I wasn't immune to the bad boy trope either (Yes, I'm looking at you, my teenage self drooling over Grimmjow from Bleach). If we can appreciate the genuine, brotherly friendship between nerdy Eli and Demetri, the shift that Eli makes as he transitions into Hawk and becomes more aggressive and dominant gives their relationship a totally different flavor. Attrition sparks a certain tension that, in the viewer's eyes, could either flow into a brawl or into passion.

During the mall fight, Demetri comes to the realization that his former best friend is actually someone who can crush him like grape. We see Hawk intentionally harming him for the first time, and Demetri's heartbreaking expression as he drops the line: "You'd actually hurt me?" And if that line gave us a pang in our hearts when we first watched Season 2, imagine rewatching it now that we know what happens in Season 3. Demetri is chased down the mall, running for his life, and then he's locked in a grip, as his best friend menacingly advances towards him. Demetri appears as the damsel in distress, however his friend is not the one who will fight to protect him, but rather his tormentor.

During the party at Moon's, Demetri manages to briefly go through Hawk's mask and reach out to Eli, thanks to a casual conversation about Dr Who. But then the beer incident happens, and Demetri defends himself with the only weapon he has – his loudmouth. The situation is reversed, and for a brief moment, he gets to be the dominant one as he discloses all Eli's most intimate secrets. Demetri is now actively contributing to the Hurt/Comfort dynamic; he's no longer just a target, but he's doing his part to enlarge that gaping hole that has formed between them. And Hawk didn't take it well.

From this moment on, Demetri becomes a sort of obsession to Hawk, who hunts him down the school, teasing him and taunting him sadistically, like a serial killer from a horror movie, during the big fight. Of course, in real life, this would be completely insane, and the police/a social assistant/psychiatrist should be called, but in ShipLand, these situations are pure gold. Okay, we get it, Hawk wants to get revenge for the humiliation at the party, and he wants to crush that nerd part of himself he sees in Demetri, but he does it with such an intensity that it borders on ridiculous. It's like this is his twisted way to acknowledge Demetri's presence. Eventually, Hawk ends up smashed into the trophy case, and I confess I felt a little disappointed when Demetri broke that hug to give Hawk a roundhouse kick. I mean, it was a great comeback, but I was sincerely hoping for a "No hard feelings man, let's get outta here!" scenario.

Getting back to the sick and twisted way Hawk acknowledges Demetri's presence, he destroys his science project after he got jealous due to him being confident in his nerd self and laughing around with his ex girlfriend (whom the writers insist he still has a crush on). Speaking of Moon, I have a feeling she likes Hawk mostly based on his badass appearance. Remember when she goes "I like this (mohawk) and I love these (muscles), but I'm not dating a bully"?

Then the football match happens. Okay, let's break this down. Demetri trips Hawk and acts all sassy, and a fellow Cobra Kai is immediately ready to take him down, but Hawk stops him. "Fight smart, he says". Too bad that literally 5 seconds earlier he had shoved a kid to the ground just because his ex girlfriend (again, duuuh~) ignored him when he winked at her. And then, as he's trying to intercept the ball, BANG, Hawk hits Demetri, sending him to the ground, pretending it was an accident. So, what does this tell us? That Hawk has some serious anger management issues? Yeah sure, but also that he cares about fighting smart only as long as it serves as an excuse to leave Demetri for him, because he's his designated target. Again, this is all but romantic, and it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted as him lusting after his friend, but it's undeniable that this dynamic offers a lot of ship fuel.

The arm breaking thing is just too painful to even analyze. We see a completely helpless Demetri begging for mercy to his ex best friend, who has made No Mercy his life motto. And that scream, oh that scream. All I wanted to see was Hawk realizing what he had done and throwing himself on his knees while begging for forgiveness. But I'm glad that at least we get to see he feels awful for what he's done, and I like to think that, as he got home, Eli cried out all the tears he had in his body thinking about poor Demetri at the hospital, with a swollen broken arm, all because of him. Of all the situations, this is undoubtedly the most deranged and extreme, and if something like this happened in real life, the wrongdoer would deserve to be punished and would definitely need to be sent to therapy. But in ShipLand, this opens the road to many, many different scenarios, in which the bully understands his mistakes and shifts back to the good side, or the two share a tender moment after they reconcile, or the traumatized character has to to learn to trust the other one again, or the bully becomes overprotective of his former victim, etc.

#3 - A Rewarding Reconciliation

Finally, we come to the reconciliation, in which Hawk makes his heel-to-face turn. While we've seen him torn with doubt for an entire season about his sensei's teachings, his actions and the people he wants to surround himself with, the key factor that drives Hawk's redemption is the sight of his best friend being held down for him to beat. And with an epic stunt and his awesome KEEEH screech, Hawk jumps to the rescue of his friend. Like many of us, Demetri thought this was still part of the "Only I Can Torment Him" dynamic I discussed earlier, as he steps backwards a little concerned, but then he understands that action was actually meant to save him, and the two begin to fight side by side, in sync, watching each other's back. You can see Demetri's eyes sparkling at the thought of having his friend back.

Also, not only Demetri stands up to alpha bitch Tory in defense of Eli, but he also speaks for his friend when he's faltering, just like he used to. So kudos for Demetri.

#4 - The Red Oni, Blue Oni Dynamic

Binary Brothers are two sides of the same coin and complete each other with opposite character traits, visually expressed by the color red and the color blue. Being the color red typically associated with violence, rage, passion and irrationality, as opposed to blue, which is associated with calmness, melancholy and rationality, red is clearly the dominant color. Again, this opens many interesting scenarios for shippers.

#5 - Body Language

Besides the situations I described above, which may or may not be read from a romantic/attraction standpoint, there are also a collection of small gestures I noticed when rewatching the series with a more attentive look on their relationship.

- Demetri's heart-broken expression when Eli shamefully covers his lip during the anti-bullying announcement.

- The smile Demetri gives when Hawk responds "Hell yeah!" after Aisha proposes to crash Yasmin's party, implying he's learning to embrace this new wild side of his best friend

- The astonished look with which Demetri watches Hawk at the tournament and the way he's pissed no one knows his real name.

- How deeply hurt Demetri is when Hawk belittles him by saying: "Five against three. More like two and a half." He even tries to reply, but he's caught so off guard that words die in his throat.

- How Demetri takes a step towards Hawk during the mall fight, before Sam makes him back off, and how sadly he looks at Hawk's nearly unconscious body after Robby defeated him.

- How Demetri smiles and nods when he briefly connects with Eli at Moon's party, despite the mall incident.

- How Hawk watches Demetri juggle with the cleaning product from behind his bike helmet (how did he stuff the mohawk in there by the way)?

- Hawk's psychotic/sadistic faces when he smells Demetri's blood, and how he likes to hunt him down like he's his prey.

- Hawk's secret impulse to comfort Demetri after the arm breaking (I hope you get nightmares of Demetri's howl of pain for the rest of your life, Hawk).

- The way Hawk twitches his upper lip when he sees his friend Demetri in danger.

- How Hawk and Demetri are so absorbed in their new-found friendship, that they're caught off guard, and Demetri swings Hawk to allow him to deliver a kick using their handshake as a lever. And how they keep fighting together, shaking each other's hands even when they're out of focus and the attention is on Miguel vs. Kyler.

- How they're standing so close at Miyagi Do, in comparison with the other Red/Blue partners.

In conclusion, this kind of relationships are engaging and entertaining to watch, and they make us wish the best for the characters. They make us hope that, in the end, as Miguel puts it, love really conquers all (and what is friendship if not a form of love?), despite all the hurt they did to each other.

Hours After You Noticed Aone For The First Time And Had Lunch Together! 🤫🥩

With a very discreet bounce in his step, Aone Takanobu walked into the Date Tech boys volleyball team changeroom after exchanging numbers with you after school.

“AONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Upon entrance, the entire team jumped him, tackling him to the ground while shouting praise and acclamations of joy loudly!

Aone was actually grinning, shoving the boys off of him to pretend that he was annoyed.

But anyone could tell that this mountain man was on cloud 9!!!!

Futakuchi reached out his hand to help Aone up and the mountain man took it. They shared a look that only Aone knew meant his best friend was happy for him. Proud of him.

Actually, Kenji’s look was one of happiness and pride, yes, but it was also full of nerves for his friend’s potential heartbreak. But Aone was too overjoyed inside to pick up on that.

“So Y/N finally knows your name!” Koganegawa yelled as he jumped on Aone’s back.

Shrugging the big boned setter off, Aone blushed. He has never been happier in his entire life and it was kind of embarrassing that the whole team knew why that was.

“I’m very happy.” Aone nodded at his team who smiled brilliantly back at him. “But please, do not get your hopes up. Aone was sitting in class like any other day, doing his work, listening to the teacher intermittently and your daily conversation with your friends. The teacher excused himself to run a club errand for 20 minutes, trusting the class to stay quiet and complete their homework. Like most typical high school classes, the volume raised as soon as the teacher stepped out. Aone glanced over at your talkative self for the 15th time that period and noticed how much you were glowing because your team had returned last night placing second at Regionals. You looked radiant, absolutely stunning with your brighter smile and louder angelic laugh.

In Mountain Man’s daydream, he imagined telling you that you looked beautiful today followed by a congratulations for placing second. You would rush over to him and kiss him in thanks then start ripping his clothes off so that you could—

“Y/N! I am sick and tired of you and the rest of the popular kids not listening to the teachers instructions! What part of ‘stay quiet’ is hard to understand in that pea brain of yours!?!??!”

To Aone’s left, sitting in his row, he looked for the yelling voice. It was who everyone (except Aone) called ‘the class snitch’ and school mascot: Tsume Lian.

“Tsume, no one was talking to you.”

Aone noticed Y/N’s startled expression at the prospect of being expelled, because he knew from overhearing your conversations that your parents were this close to sending you to Seijoh to get your grades up and live on campus there. According to your gossip last week, if you failed another class or got another complaint from a teacher then your parents would under no circumstances allow you to cheer again.

Aone clenched his fists tightly around his pencil because he couldn’t stand the idea of seeing Motomu or Kindaichi drooling over you at his enemy school.

One of Y/N’s friends who Aone knew as Kusa, spoke up in defence of Y/N. “Oh shut it, Tsume. Us chatting isn’t bothering anyone else.”

“I don’t care! You cheerleaders think you can do anything you want and that’s that!! YOU WILL face repercussions if I can help it!”

Kusa feigned fear. She turned her entire body toward him in her seat, meaning business. A bitch had time today.

The entire class gave this drama all of their undivided attention when they witnessed that move, ready for the show like:

“Oh yeah?! And why are you just snapping about this now, huh? Why not before?” Kusa snapped. You put a hand on your friends arm, silently trying to tell her he isn’t worth her energy.

Meanwhile, with Mountain Man - Today was a day of firsts in his ‘Crushing on Y/N’ book. It was the first time he’s ever seen you glowing because of the Regional results, it was the first time he’s ever seen you so sassy, and now............. Aone notes that today is also the first time he’s ever seen you on the verge of tears before.

Unlike your glowing and your sassiness, Aone decided that he hated the last first more than anything in the world.

It consumed his emotions, how badly he didn’t want to see you cry.

“You really are slimy, Tsume. Wait until Katana hears this.” Kusa spat, rubbing her hand up and down Y/N’s back to soothe you as you willed your tears not to fall.

Seeing you so sad, Aone’s heart clenched.

He knew what it was like to be hurting but he never ever wanted that for you—not ever.

“Hey Y/N-chan, why don’t you show me that video your mom got of our reaction to us placing second yesterday?? I’d love to see it.” Kusa has accurately distracted you because she texted Katana what was happening and Katana knew just what to do until she got there.

You smiled, thinking about the overwhelming happiness from yesterday when your team placed second. You whipped out your phone and showed Kusa, smiling and giggling in a matter of seconds as it played.

Aone was glad you seemed good.

He turned to look at Tsume, who seemed to be raging inside. Shooting daggers at the two cheerleaders because they weren’t crumbling under his threats. They were laughing, in fact. Ignoring him as if he didn’t matter. Aone could tell Tsume was a ticking time bomb with how mad he was. His anger toward you looked severely unhealthy.

You let out a rather amusing laugh with Kusa as you two pointed to your screen and Aone’s heart skipped a beat because he loved that laugh so much. God, he is so fucking whipped.

When you laughed like that though, it sent perverted-snitch Tsume over the edge, bubbling over in anger like a piping hot kettle.

Aone watched him with studious eyes as Tsume took a deep breath to say something else that Aone was sure would stop your harmonious laughter that he adored......

“Y/N—“ Tsume started, but without warning, THE AONE TAKANOBU, DATE TECH MIDDLE BLOCKER, OUR MOUNTAIN MAN, interrupted him! Stopping all speech in the class with his simple, deep-voiced command:

A drop of sweat leaving his hairline, Lian scanned Aone’s gigantic body with his eyes, seeing that the volleyball player just barely fit in his desk—he gulped.

He just sat there, his mind whirling mad until the bell finally rang. You said bye to Kusa and watched as this blonde hottie stood up from his seat, towering over you.

God, he was so freaking HOT! You wanted to jump him.

At the same time students filed out of the class, Aone turned to you as he collected his things then slung his bag over his shoulder.

“May I carry your books for you, Y/N?” Mountain man asked sheepishly in his stern voice.

Your heart fluttered by how cute and sweet he was to ask!

“Umm, sure! Thank you so much!” You smiled and handed your heavy books over.

You two walked beside eachother and Aone held the door open for you. You didn’t know why he was being so nice but you couldn’t lie that you felt very charmed.

Although Aone didn’t answer and he’s maintained his stoic expression the entire lunch, deep down you felt that this man had a thing for you. He was very intense so it was quite obvious. But since you enjoyed the lunch so much and you were starting to have a thing for him, too, you wanted to confirm:

“Also, Aone-san, I’m happy to know that you can say more than 4 words 😲! I asked my friend earlier and she said you basically never speak.” You exclaimed, fishing.

Aone smirked, feeling the need to defend himself on that front. “It is true that that is the consensus of the majority of people who come in contact with me. However, that is because there exists few people, that I feel inclined to speak to.”

Hook, line, and sinker. Your eyes twinkled at his words. He looked like a jock but sounded so eloquent! You loved it:

“Oh wow well you spoke a lot to me today so I guess I must be a little special then, huh.......?” You twirled your hair around your index finger as you asked, causing Aone to almost drool.

SIX OF CROWS AND CROOKED KINGDOM-LEIGH BARDUGO

There is no secret to anyone that knows me that the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo is my favourite thing to ever exist. The books are my comfort books; there is no describing the comfort I feel whenever i talk about them or read them; but if you are a reader like me, I'm sure you understand. There are so many things in those two books that just make me feel so safe and happy although I always end up sobbing whenever i read them. I'll try to tell you a bit about the characters and why I absolutely adore all of them, without spoiling too much(or anything). First of all:

1. Kaz Brekker: 17 year old boy, dark hair, tragic past. Need I say more? Kaz is a morally grey character, extremely smart and gifted with lots of abilities. Although he is part of a gang, and has scammed and killed people, he isn't 'bad'. Everything he does has a purpose- and in a city like Ketterdam, is rare to find people who wouldn't do anything and everything for money. While he does love money(quite a lot) he is motivated by his need of revenge. It's pretty rare that he loses control and does things without thinking them through. Amazingly developed character with an incredibly cool name.

2. Inej Ghafa: did someone say the strongest girl I've ever read? 16 year old who went through a life time of trauma. She kills and helps Kaz with his schemes, but she never loses her faith or her good nature. She is vicious, dangerous, deadly-but never cruel. She is wise and smart and just overall has a good heart. She does what needs to be done to stay alive and to keep her friends alive, but never enjoys it. One of my favourite female characters ever because even though she has feelings for one of the other 5 people in her team, she knows she deserves better and she never settles for anything other than that. She puts herself and her dreams and plans first. Also incredibly skilled and brave.

3. Nina Zenik: 17 year old powerful queen, sarcastic, brave and confident. A soldier who fights for what she believes in and stands her ground. Loves food and isn't hiding it. 10/10 one of my favourite women.

4. Matthias Helvar: 18 year old bigoted prick but we grow to love him as he develops. Looks like he could kill you and he most definitely can, but won't because he's a sweetheart (after he overcomes the prejudices that were put into his head).

5. Jesper Fahey: 17 year old that loves his guns and his gambling. Comedic relief, smart, incredible sharpshooter, charming and just overall a lovely character. I love him and some of his scenes broke my heart. He sometimes deserves better than what he gets.

6. Wylan: 16 year old- the rich boy of the group. Smart and brave. Even tho he is sort of 'nerdy' I love that he wasn't stereotypical at all. He is sassy and stands up for himself and for those he feels are being wronged, even against Kaz when he's at gis worst-definitely shows the kid was some courage in him.

Positives:

I love that we get chapters from all 6 perspectives. This way we really get to know the characters on a personal level, really see inside each of their minds. They are all brilliantly well developed characters- they go through changes, they learn to adapt, they learn that some things are not as black and white as they thought. We really get enough insight into their past, and we learn why each character is the way that it is. Details are given in time, not all at once. It really feels as if we are literally inside their brains. Each chapter made me feel as if I was becoming the character. The only character that doesn't have his own chapters in Six of Crows is Wylan, but Leigh Bardugo makes up for it in Crooked Kingdom.

-What attracted me to this book in the first place was the gang aspect; it somehow reminded me of Peaky Blinders. Despite it being about a heist, there is romance, not as the main focus but more as a subplot I would say-just enough to make you enjoy it without taking away from the main plot. The books also have lots of funny, heartwarming moments. Not to mention the heartbreaking ones. I can't even remember how many times I sobbed reading the books. I still cry about it sometimes, years after I read it for the first time. This what tells me a book is good: I think about it months and in this case, years after I've first read it.

-another positive is the diversity in these books: we have characters dealing with addiction, disabled characters, characters of colour, plus sized characters, characters dealing with trauma, characters dealing with various mental disorders, characters of different religions(although fictional) and characters of different sexualities. There is something for everyone. It also deals with xenophobia and sex trafficking, forced prostitution and fetishizing of different traits such as skin colour, hair colour etc. It also keeps a pretty feminist approach- there is no rivalry between the two girls in the group( Nina and Inej) and they are incredibly supportive of each other( i LOVE a good female friendship). Even when talking about the girls who 'work' at the brothels, they aren't shamed if they are there by choice- they are supported, which was good to see; it is important to see a book where sex workers aren't shamed or judged, especially considering that there is still stigma around the profession.

-what i also enjoyed is that the plot is not predictable. It keeps you on edge, it challenges you to guess the possible outcomes of every situation. Even the plans and schemes are sometimes(most of the time) hidden- we don't really learn the purpose of something until after it is done. Leigh Bardugo's mind is incredible- she comes up with the most amazing plot twists and turns. You can't really get bored of it- because if you don't keep reading, you may never find the real plan, the real purpose, why the characters choose to do certain things. It is honestly so entertaining to try to guess what happens next.

Negatives: -it does take a while to get into the action. The beginning of Six of crows involves a lot of planning, scheming, secrets- which to me seems only natural. We follow these characters through their journey and their journey isn't action packed at all times(this said, the book is never boring; there are interesting things happening at all times, even if we didn't reach the main part of the plot). The actual heist itself is more focused towards the second half of the book and that's where it really gets intense. If in the first half you find time to relax and breathe, in the second half everything comes crushing down. For me the pace wasn't a problem but I know some people like to get into things right away.

-sometimes it's hard to believe that the characters are 16 to 18. They seem so much older, so mature at times but this again seems normal to me. They went through traumatic events that most people don't go and shouldn't go through at such a young age. They were forced to grow up and mature fast because otherwise they wouldn't be alive. It's not really a negative in my opinion, but thought it was worth mentioning.

Overall, this duology is a 10/10 for me, 5/5 stars. I read it so many times and will continue to re-read it. Each time I read it, I enjoy it the same as I did when I first discovered the books. Leigh Bardugo is an amazing author.

This was it, the Death Eaters were at the castle with Voldemort and you were terrified. You were with your best friend, Harry, trying to find Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem when you were separated. Your mind went crazy as you began to think about how you got to this place, but soon it was filled with a certain blonde haired Slytherin you’ve grown to love, although you’ve never told Draco that, but now you fear you never would. Crouching behind a fallen pillar, hiding from the numerous curses and drowning out the screams with your thoughts, you absentmindedly wipe a fallen tear from your face, shaking your head back to reality. Glancing around to make sure it’s safe you started running, careful not to draw any attention to you as you watch the Death Eaters. You stop in your tracks as you watch Draco converse with a death eater, wincing as you watch the death eater look in your direction. Your eyes widen as the death eater makes their way towards you, you frantically search your robes for your wand, cursing yourself when you stupidly realize you dropped it by the pillar. Your eyes dart to Draco who can’t even look your way. Besides Harry, Draco was your best friend, he was your everything. Your parents were killed when you were 3 leaving you in the care of Dumbledore until you were old enough to attend the school. You were immediately fascinated by the boy that year and he was impressed by how sassy and smart your comebacks were, you always seemed to be in a happy mood no matter what happens, and over the years Draco always found himself on your good side, so it was no surprise you both managed to be best friends who fancy each other. But right now, all those memories, happy moments shared between Draco and you was just that. Memories. You continued to stare at the boy, knowing full well that this was when you were going to die, but only confused as to why it was talking so long. Looking up at the Death Eater, you notice his gaze has turned to Draco, your breath hitches as you begin to understand. He wants Draco to kill you. “Draco.” His voice coming out in a raspy mumble, “Kill her. Kill her and prove her loyal to the Dark Lord. Do it son.” You gasp as you realize that the man before you is Lucius Malfoy, he grabbed your arm pulling you to his son, throwing you to the ground before walking out of the corridor. Leaving you alone with Draco Malfoy, who is currently pointing his wand in your bruised and bloody face.

“Do it Draco. Spell me.” You whisper as you get up onto your knees. “Show me who you are. Prove to me you’re one of them. Prove to me you’re a death eater. Prove to me what side you’re on.” You say a little louder, watching as his wand starts shaking as he gets a little closer to you. “Do it Draco! SPELL ME!” You say getting louder each word until you’re screaming the last words. Tears are threatening to spill down your eyes. Draco flinches as he hears your words. You kneel straighter then you’ve ever been before, knowing that if this was how you’re going out then you would do so with dignity. You closed your eyes waiting for his words, thinking back to all the fun you’ve ever had with him. Your Draco. After a minute of closing your eyes, your tears finally falling, you open them to see Draco staring back at you, tears streaming down his face too. You finally get the chance to look at him, really look at him. You see the dark circles surrounding his eyes, his disheveled hair, and the cuts and bruises attacking his body. But most importantly you see the way he looks at you as he lowers his wand, his mouth finally forming a smile when you notice his wand is down. “Y/N...” he whimpers barely able to speak. “AVADA KEDAVRA” echoes through the corridor as your body falls to the ground, followed the shrieking laughter of one Bellatrix Lestrange. “NO! Y/N!” Draco screams barely able to contain himself as he falls next to you holding you in his arms. “Oh, poor little Draco. Feelings for the little brat. Don’t let love blind you from goals or else you’ll snap like her.” Laughs escaping her lips after every sentence, “Now let’s gets doing Draco, can’t keep our Lord waiting.” Her words pounding in his mind. “I’ll be there in a minute.” He whispers, disgust filling his ears as she cackles again. “Let’s. go. Draco.” She spits out. “I SAID I’LL BE THERE IN A MINUTE! I HAVE TO GET RID OF SOMEONE ELSE BEFORE I CAN GO!” He screams pointing down the hall to another corridor while lying through his teeth as to not tip his aunt off about his feelings. “Get rid of them then join your family on the winning side.” She says maliciously as her voice becomes higher pitched and full of her laughter. She walks out of the corridor and a minute later someone else walks in. The chosen one. Harry Potter.

“Malfoy....” he says to the blond boy on the ground cradling a body. He can’t see who it is, but he knows only one person can make Draco cry like this. And that one person just happened to be Y/N. “I didn’t... I-I almost... Bellatrix, she did... I-I couldn’t save her...” he speaks as his voice becomes thick in his throat. “I never told her.” He whispers thinking Harry can’t hear him, but proven wrong when he hears him say “tell her what?” “That I was in love with her.” “You loved her?” Draco looks up from your body to Harry then back down to you with a broken smile on his face. “With all my heart.” Harry has never liked Draco, having multiple duels with him, completely despising the blonde, but he knew you didn’t hate him. As much as Harry hated it, you were one of his best friends and if you liked the Slytherin prince then Harry would’ve learn to live with it for your happiness.

“Then fight for her.” And with those four words, all the anger and heartbreak inside of Draco came out as he grabbed his wand and followed the raven-haired boy to the mess hall, where Bellatrix was waiting for him. And with a flick of his wand Avada Kedavra was the last thing his aunt heard.

Imagine Joyce comforting Billy? Like Billy misses his mom so much, and he opens up to Joyce and she just kind of holds him and let’s him cry on her shoulder? And no offense to Steve, but Joyce is the Number One Mom, hands down.

okay 1. I 100% agree. Love Steve dearly, but Joyce is just the Best Mom Ever

2. aLRIGHT my friend @imdeaddear2 and I were talking about how Joyce is basically a Miracle Worker Mother. Not to put her on a pedestal or anything but I love her w/ all of my heart and i just headcanon her as being so Healing for Billy. Like that one scene from Lilo and Stitch where Lilo puts the little lei on Stitch and he just falls over in total calm??? That’s Joyce and Billy. Like Joyce is able to just put a calming hand on Billy’s shoulder and asks what’s up and he just melts into Soft Boy BillyTM who’s like: Well now that you mention it, it all started when I was 7 years old…

aNYWAY legit Joyce calms Billy down like No Other and I really mean that. Like, even hanging around with Steve doesn’t calm Billy down as fully and consistently as Joyce using her Mom Powers on him does. And i like to think he used to be SUPER formal with Joyce. Always calling her Mrs. Byers and being almost a little cold but uber respectful with her bc this boy was trained to do that. Ever since his mom left his life and Susan entered it, the idea of a mother was gone and the image of a woman he’s obligated to be-nice-to-or-else entered. He was forced to be on his very best behavior, to be ‘picture perfect son’ around her, bc if not then he was being “disrespectful”. And that’s absolutely all he can think about when he’s around Joyce at the first. He turns on the Good Respectful Boy schtick without even trying because that’s what he thinks he needs to do to keep himself safe.

And you bet Joyce hates it with her entire being. She can sense it’s a defense mechanism but 1. It hurts her heart to think about that and 2. It makes her incredibly uncomfortable to be called Mrs. Byers all the time. To constantly have doors held open for her. To basically not be allowed to lift a finger bc Billy is always there saying “Oh, I’ve got the dishes”, “Oh, no, I can make dinner”, “Oh, no, I’ll clean that up.”

And she can just see how tense Billy is about it too and that’s probably the worst part for her. It doesn’t matter what he’ll be doing or what she’ll be doing, the second he sees her, he’s on edge. He straightens his back out and bows his head a bit and turns into this weird shell of who he actually is and it’s heartbreaking to her. Like he’s been trained for this and the reality is he has.

And i dunno how often people talk about this but i really truly feel like Joyce would absolutely love Billy. Like she thinks the real Billy is a very good kid who’s funny and well-intentioned and smart. Hop says he’s a brat but Joyce thinks he’s just got a sassy sort of confidence. Billy may never admit it himself, but he’s very kind hearted. It’s evident in the way he treats El and Will and Jonathan. In the way that he acts when he’s with Steve. In the way that he banters with Hop. He’s just such a good kid who gets such a bad rap and it’s not fair to her. She hears the way people in the street whisper about him when he walks by. She sees the way women will touch him completely unsolicited. She just wants to fold him into a hug and help him.

And eventually she’s able to and it’s so lovely!! Bc Billy is happy for Jonathan and Will that they’ve been able to have a mother like this their whole lives but also holy shit, he’s so fucking jealous. And he doesn’t necessarily feel bad about it, he just feels upset. He feels it bubble up inside of him uncomfortably. He watches the way she interacts w/ them and every day it’s a reminder that he fucking lost that. Lost any chance at that. Lost any chance at a mother at all bc it’s so hard at this point for him to believe that he even deserves one and so he’s lashing out and he’s yelling at Hop and he’s being a brat and Hop has had absolutely enough and when Billy leaves, Hopper goes to Joyce like: “I don’t even know what to do half the time. He won’t listen to me and he won’t talk and I don’t think I’m ever going to get through to him.”

And Joyce has been asked so many questions about Billy and has noticed so many things about Billy that the next time she sees him and he starts to act up and talk back a bit more venomously and Hop starts to get a little more hotheaded, she’s asking if it’s alright if they can go outside to talk. Her and Billy. And he’s still a little stiff, still a little cold, but he’s also fuming with irritation and Joyce can tell and they sit down on the little furniture outside and she asks:

“Would you like to talk, hun?”

Billy shakes his head, mouth tight and eyes tight and shoulders tight.

She gives him a gentle smile.

“We don’t have to talk about what’s upsetting you. We can talk about anything you want. We can just… talk.”

And Billy…… is confused as all hell.

Bc Hop always tries to get right down to the source, is always trying to shrink him, so he doesn’t understand this. He doesn’t understand the… small talk.

He gives her a strange look. He can’t help it. He’s trying to evaluate the reason behind this. She looks to him innocently and gives a small smile.

“Alright?” He responds, voice dubious.

“What would you like to talk about?”

“I have no idea.”

Joyce hums for a second before she’s saying-

“Tell me about your favorite peanut butter.”

And Billy huffs out a laugh, looking her in absolute disbelief.

“Wha-? You wanna talk about peanut butter?”

She laughs a little and nods.

“Yeah, Hop says you have a favorite type of peanut butter. I wanna hear about it.”

And Billy is laughing disbelievingly now, overcome with nervous huffs of air but Joyce just looks at him with amusement.

“I’m serious! Tell me about it.”

Billy shakes his head. Tells her about how he’s always loved crunchy peanut butter. She asks why and he furrows his brow in confusion before he explains he just likes the texture. As a kid he always preferred crunchy things over softer things. He’s always hated applesauce. He says that his mother used to tell him that he would reach for her solid food whenever she would try to feed him baby food. He gets really quiet by the end of his sentence, shies away from the subject of his mother, shrinks a bit.

So Joyce asks him about his car. How long he’s had it? How fast does it go? Billy kind of chuckles again at how silly these conversations are, but he’s less nervous about it. He explains his car, how it goes pretty fast. a little too fast for Hop and Will. how his dad gave it to him to hold over his head.

And he doesn’t know why he says it. He doesn’t know why he mentions his parents at all. But there’s something about Joyce’s kind eyes and the way she looks at him not like he’s broken or injured but like he’s safe.

He stutters around his sentences, spitting out more and more about his parents like something’s pulling it out of him. He’s breathing harder.

Joyce puts a hand on his knee and rubs her thumb on it gently.

Motherly.

It’s alien. It feels dramatic to think that but it is. The last time he had someone to call “mom” was so long ago. Was laced with fear and anxiety and near mourning.

And now here’s someone who’s willingly stepping into that role. She’s purposefully inviting Billy into her life and treating him like he’s one of her children. She didn’t adopt Billy, she has no legal attachment, she could be just like Susan and treat him like a dangerous animal that she has to be nervous of… but she doesn’t. She gives him the same kind eyes she gives Will when he’s had a rough day at school and tells him it’s alright.

“Whatever you wanna talk about, you can talk about. I’m here to listen.”

Billy takes a deep breath.

“If it’s serious or silly, I’ll listen no matter what.” She adds.

Billy wrings his hands a bit.

“I just… it fucking blows.”

“What does, honey?”

“Everything. Thinking about everything. Going out and knowing… knowing I might see him.” Billy feels the hot weight of tears in his eyes. “And… and… I don’t know. Other stuff.”

“What other stuff?”

“Stuff like… like…” Billy feels his chest tighten up, like someone’s winding it up with a key. “You’re… so good with Will. And El. And I… Why are you so fucking nice to me?”

“Oh hun. Because I care about you.”

“Yeah sure but why?”

“Why wouldn’t I, honey?”

“Because not even my own fucking mother cared enough to- not even my own mother stuck around. And I just… I don’t get it. I’m an asshole-”

“Stop that.”

“It’s true-”

“No it’s not. You’re a good kid. You’re a good, smart kid and you’re so kind to Will and Jonathan and I can’t thank you enough for that.”

“I bother them constantly.”

“You talk to them and laugh with them and protect them from bullies!”

Billy pauses.

“Those little punks told you that?”

Joyce laughs. “Yeah. I kind of forced it out of them, but yeah.”

Billy shakes his head. “Why would I let them get bullied they’re my brothers now.”

“Exactly.” She gives rubs her thumb on his knee again. “So… I can be your mom then, right?”

Billy starts shaking a bit.

“I… I guess so.” He says, heavy tears weighing his eyes again.

Joyce smiles warmly, tears watering her eyes as well as she hugs him. She feels Billy’s chest heave a little every now and then. She holds him in a hug until they’re gone.

(And i just had to put this before Jim and Joyce get married bc NOW we need to think about Billy being one of the kids to dance w/ Joyce at Jopper’s wedding bc ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!! THAT’S A BEAUTIFUL THING!!!)

1982. I'm assuming Five used a briefcase... But in s1 we saw that the briefcase travels are tracked (Hazel and Cha-Cha got reprimanded for Klaus's Vietnam trip) so I'm not sure how the board doesn't know someone is coming... I might be overthinking.

Five being creepy.

Is that a Fudge Nutter like Handler mentioned in season 1? Oh, it is.

I LOVE FIVE! The lengths this little killer will go for his family are unbelievable, nobody should ever doubt his love and devotion for them ever again.

This whole murder scene was incredible and Five's obvious glee made it even better. FEAR HIM!

Jesus, Klaus is so afraid of being possessed that he's afraid to sleep and Ben just mocks him? 😘💋 I get that this is supposed to be a funny 'brothers messing with each other' kind of thing but Klaus feels so unsafe that it makes me uncomfortable. What happened to you, Ben, when did you become so dark? You were the nice one!

Ben just getting closer and closer every time Klaus closes his eyes just gave me Doctor Who flashbacks.

Ok, Ben has a point. I'm actually liking this conversation. And I'm liking that Klaus is starting to understand his brother.

Ok, this is such a brother conversation. And Klaus constantly pretending not to know who Jill is 😆

Damn, the tension at the lunch table cut be cut with a knife. I'm scared what Carl is going to do.

Ray and Allison have a lovely relationship but I finally identified the problem, the tension I was feeling between since them a few eps back. It's not about Allison's secrets at all, is about Ray being so obsessed with his crusade that he completely overlooks Allison's feelings, he only pays attention to her when they are on the page about the mission. He sees her powers and his first thought is 'we could use this for the cause', Allison is clearly distressed and sad and even says she doesn't feel well and all he can think about is the damn JFK meeting. He's not a bad person and he's not doing it on purpose but he has a workaholic one-track mind that could easy turn into neglect for Allison. He clearly loves her and I'm rooting for them so much but I know that if asked to choose between Allison and his cause, he'll pick his cause.

So Five is done with the killing. I figured this might weigh on his conscience, it's one thing to kill for a greater good or survival, coldly and detached, it's another thing to slaughter for selfish reasons (even if his selfish reasons are a greater good).

Handler going all mom on him and wiping his face. 😆

"What I did today, I did for my family" -we know, baby, and they better respect you for it. You love then so much.

90 minutes??? Wtf, I knew Handler would try to screw Five over but that's just cruel, she's forcing him to uproot the family without even giving them time to say goodbye and that's even IF he can get to all of them on time.

I love the new dumbass buddy cop dynamic between Diego and Luther. This is the sort of positive brotherly dynamic they always should have had instead of being pitted against each other all their lives.

"you have some blood on you" "a lot of blood, actually. Five, what did you do?" -the casual, mildly annoyed way they ask is hilarious, if they knew what he did they'd be horrified (and possibly impressed).

Handler's militaristic chic dress is fabulous. I personally don't like it very much (or the message it sends) but it's haute couture and incredibly designed. Also, the bleached hair is back!

"any questions?" And then she leaves without listening. Power move 😏

Luther trying to comfort Diego like the dork he is. 🤣

Really though, I feel bad for Diego, and Five is under so much pressure that I don't blame him for snapping.

"I'm shy" -are you, Klaus? Are you really? You keep walking around in underwear in front of dozens of people, you're not shy.

Ok, so far the possession thing is not as bad as some people were claiming. So far.

I know this all supposed to be cute and all but it would also be a perfect moment for Ben for experience Klaus's powers (the constant hauntings) as well as his addiction and the claustrophobic expectations of the cult. It would be an excellent chance to make Ben understand why Klaus is the way he is, seeing as Klaus is making a huge effort (and sacrifice) to do the same for Ben. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening because I think they want to keep this part about Ben.

By end of season 1 Klaus cried that people still didn't take him seriously, his compassion despite all his suffering made him likeable and deep, but this season he's back to being the family joke, I don't like that there's no resolution to that. But let's see where this goes, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Oh God, Carl's talk is freaking me out.

Everybody keeps expecting Vanya to explode every time she gets emotional but this scene proves how much control she truly has. Respect!

Oh, finally Claire is mentioned! I've been rather upset that Allison hasn't mentioned her daughter even once this season (does Ray even know he has a stepdaughter?) seeing as most of her arc in season 1 revolved around her love and guilt over Claire.

Luther is right when he says they don't get live formal lives because they are special but Allison is even more right when she says that's not fair. This is why this family needs to stick together and love each other, they are the only ones that can really understand each other's struggles.

OH! I CAN FINALLY SEE ALLISON'S SCAR! The lighting in this scene makes it really obvious. Finally.
