@katkastrofa HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I know that the past.. god knows how long, we’ve been busy mutually brainrotting about Kuviren, but when I was deciding what to draw for you, the fungus decided to give some love to the adorable and unfairly underappreciated Green Opal))
Tumblr media
Main train of thought was – I’ve designed what Suiren would look like post-SotRL, so how about Midori? And then I decided to try Opal too bc I really should practise drawing her more often (I think she goes through a phase where she has an immense aversion to wearing green as it reminds her too much of her mom and Zaofu, so she opts for something more airbender-esque. I think she might be the only person in existence to pull off orange this well). And once I realised I wanted to draw Opal, it only made sense to draw them together
Anyways.. design notes time!
If Suiren’s main post-SotRL thing is allowing herself to be softer and more relaxed – lighter shades of blue, less practical and more airy dresses, etc. – then Midori is a bit of the opposite. She’s gained a lot of self confidence and I wanted her new design to reflect that. Which is to say-
SHE GETS TATTOOS LIKE HER DAD. Not like, all over, but on her forearms to start off with. She spent so long disconnected from her bending and heritage that it only felt right to honour it this way, they call them ‘lavabending mastery tattoos’ as an inside joke. And, well, when I was doodling designs for what I have dubbed the ‘Dead Mom Club’, it came to be that Midori’s paternal grandmother had those tattoos too, so I guess it’s now a family thing :)
When she needs to hide the tattoos, she has armbands that go over them. Red, the same shade her auntie wears))
Gets more muscular as she trains in her bending and eventually forgoes the open shirt she always wore overtop everything else. Opal gets to unabashedly stare, Midori gets to feels the sun on her skin, it’s a win-win situation, really.
Changes from a tank top to something similar but a bit more practical, too
Same pants though, they’re comfy
Hair no longer loose and not getting in her face as much. The brushing it over her forehead and tying off at the back is inspired by her auntie, it’s not visible but it’s tied off into a ponytail as reference to Suiren, and the fact it’s technically a half-up-half-down style counts as a nod to her mom. What, did you think she only took after her dad?
Overall though she’s still a bit of an awkward bean who gets easily flustered by her girlfriend’s affections. Though apparently, looking at Suiren’s reactions to being called pretty, that runs in the family ;)
#my art#artists on tumblr#the legend of korra#seeds of the red lotus#sotrl midori#original character#opal beifong#green opal#oc x canon#I actually loved drawing this#it gave me a bit of a headache but it was worth it#and yeah it’s a little rough in places but I’ve decided I don’t wanna do line art as much anymore#lineart made my drawings look more stiff cause I’m really heavyhanded#cleaned up sketches >>>>>>>>> lineart#okay but really#I need to draw these two more often#they’re so so so cute I love them#fun fact Midori’s visible hand is actually my hand#I couldn’t find a ref so I took a pic of and traced mine#and I have tiny hands lmao hers are definitely not that dainty#also is it just be or do they kinda have a similar vibe to when I drew biyu and zada two years ago#like it’s a similar pose and colour scheme#like my mom says – everything new is just something old that was thoroughly forgotten#eh. not that I mind. zada is better than haya anyway. I bet she wouldn’t have treated my girls like that. biyu would kill her if she tried#I’d call it a new au idea but I already have so many in my hands#*on. I’m not rewriting that#considering sotrl isn’t even written past chapter 5 and hasn’t been updated in 3 years#(the irony that I make aus and post-sotrl art and headcanons and stuff instead of the actual thing.. yeah. not about that right now okay)#but it’s in the back of my mind always. what can I say I’m a sucker for aus where my girls are raised by anyone but Haya#also I’m technically posting this on the 28th but shhhh time is an illusion

Why Kuviren and Startrix are literally the same ship in different fonts: a brief exploration bc I'm once again bored while staying at my grandma's
(Alternatively: Are you seriously comparing the complex and borderline toxic character development arc chock full of trauma and healing that is Kuviren to a colourful pony show meant for 7 year olds? Yes, yes I am)
Let's play a game. I'm going to describe the characters in a ship and you'll have to guess which ship I'm talking about:
On one hand you have the ex-dictator who took her childhood trauma and turned it into a political ideation. Absolutely convinced she's doing the right thing and that anyone who opposes her should be crushed. Repressing all feelings to the max. At the culmination of her arc she near damn tears the whole fucking world apart before being saved by the main character after a tearful discussion of said childhood trauma that was turned into a political ideation.
On the other you have an absolute cringefail girlfailure. Feels like she's the worst so always acts like she's the best and will continue walking around with an artificially inflated ego until it literally blows up in her face. So caught up in her own goals and issues she doesn't realise she's hurting the people who care about her. Reckless to a fault and very quick to make decisions on a whim with no regard for possible consequences.
Both of them are absolute menaces to society who absolutely should not have been allowed to meet because the two of them as a duo can and will destroy the world if they so choose. And yet, they're both each other's first real friend and somehow, them being together balances each of them out. They're both key elements to the other's road to redemption. They always stick together despite countless arguments in which they can seriously hurt each other, because ultimately they're better together and are both very, very glad they've met.
If you can't figure out whether I'm talking about Kuviren or Startrix it's because that was a trick question, all of those things apply to both ships. Which just proves that I have not matured emotionally at all since I was 10 and watched Season 6 of MLP while it was airing, and my taste in ships will simply never change
Thank you for your attention

can you plz infodump about your ocs?? so new people to your blog can understand them
Hey, anon? I hope you know that this ask is the best one I’ve gotten in all my 3 1/2 years on this hellsite, so thank you!! You really don’t need to know about my OCs to follow this blog cause a) I post once in a blue moon nowadays, and b) it’s rarely about my OCs, BUT SINCE YOU ASKED-
K, so, my main OCs are Suiren and Midori, sisters who just so happen to be Ghazan and Ming-Hua’s daughters. They were 7 and 4 respectively when their parents were imprisoned for trying to kidnap Korra, which led to them being placed in the ‘care’ of Ghazan’s older sister, Haya. What happens to them after that? Well, you’d have to be more specific, since I have about a trillion different AUs featuring them. The two most important ones (aka the ones written down) are:
1. Seeds of the Red Lotus. The very first fic I wrote about them, which I... haven’t updated in two years. It currently stands at 5 chapters BUT I am in the process of rewriting and continuing it. The basic concept is that the girls grow up in utter misery under Haya’s iron fist, and in a desperate attempt to get enough money to leave and live a happy, comfortable life somewhere else, Suiren becomes an assassin at the bright old age of 17. Fast forward 6 years, and Team Avatar, unable to take down the Earth Empire on their own, hire her to kill Kuvira
2. Under the Oak’s Shade. A rather self indulgent AU written as a form of catharsis and spiritual healing. Six months into living with Haya, the girls are taken in by Zhi, a cranky lesbian with a bad sense of direction/P’Li’s firebending teacher from the Red Lotus/my friend @katkastrofa‘s OC from her fic Lost and Found (which, unlike the multichaps I write, is complete and you should go read it immediately). Once I pull myself together to actually figure out how the next instalment in the series should go, this will, most likely, eventually become a Red Lotus Korra AU, which I’m definitely looking forward to writing.
Now that the basics are out of the way, let’s get to actual infodumping about my two precious cinnamon rolls. Most of this info is from SotRL-verse, as that is the main story I’ve got about them, so keep that in mind
-
Suiren:
23 years old as of 174 AG. Master waterbender and deadly assassin. Cold, calculating and precise in everything she does, leaving no room for error. Takes no shit from anyone, is fiercely defensive and independent, and is the last person to ever accept any help or charity. Confident in her abilities and borderline cocky at times, a lot of which is a front. Extremely short tempered, nihilistic, cynical and high strung, not willing to let anyone get close enough to her to see her hidden vulnerabilities
She wasn’t always like this. A long time ago, back before she lost her parents, she was much, much softer, kinder and more gentle. Her parents called her their little water lily, and the nickname suited her well. However, P’Li’s nickname for her was ‘my little firecracker’, so she very much still had quite a temper even back then. Overall, she was a happy little girl with bright eyes and a mischievous smile who was determined to excel in her waterbending lessons. She was Ming-Hua’s pride and joy. 16 years of taking the brunt of Haya’s anger to shield her sister, as well as destroying the part of herself that wouldn’t let her mindlessly do the bidding of whoever paid her, changed her, perhaps irreversibly.
Her old life still haunts her, though. Genetics played a cruel joke on her – the silky black hair reaching below her waist, the angular features, the prominent cheekbones, the (relatively) short height – it all serves to make her see her mother every single time she glances in the mirror. Being just like her mother was something she once aspired to, but now follows her like a curse. Even the things she got from her dad, dark skin and golden brown eyes, don’t help, and just make her look like Haya, especially when she’s angry
There is another side to her that no one but Midori gets to see. She may not be as soft as sixteen years ago, but she is still capable of love and gentleness. She loves her sister more than anything else in life, has already killed and would die for her. She is very protective of Midori (though often to a fault). She hugs her tight and kisses her forehead and cheeks, quietly sings her (their mother’s) lullabies as she calms her down from a nightmare, heals any and all her wounds, tells her stories of their parents, always puts her first no matter how pained and exhausted she herself is... In short, Suiren took on the role of a self sacrificing parent a long time ago and has played it well
Suiren is a distinguished lesbian but can’t keep a partner longer than a few weeks. Girls fawn all over her, but once they see past the pretty face and confident demeanour and notice everything wrong with her, they run (which only serves to make Suiren’s abandonment issues worse). She has taken to sticking to one night stands when she needs an outlet for her frustrations, convinced she will never have, and isn’t deserving of, a long lasting, loving relationship
She struggles severely with her mental health, constantly plagued by what she has done. She tries to limit her sleep to avoid nightmares that she knows will come and represses all emotions except for anger as that is the safest to latch onto and channel into killing. She is almost always on edge and feels pressure mounting with every single day. Very prone to overstimulation when it comes to noise, light and people. The only times she ever relaxes (or, at least, pretends to) is when she’s alone with Midori or with Lotus, her pet sabertooth moose lion.
To sum up: the poor girl is a vessel for my trauma and deserves a 30 hour nap, a hug, a warm blanket, the whole world and her parents back
-
Midori:
20 years old as of 174 AG. Earthbender, though not very good at it. She discovered her earthbending only a few months before losing her parents, and had no one to teach her since then. She is naturally kindhearted and hardworking, always trying to help out where she can and seem useful. Quiet and anxious, she prefers to stick to the background and draw as little attention to herself as possible (which is in fact a defence mechanism against Haya’s treatment of her but, y’know, let’s not get into that rn)
Sixteen years ago, Midori was a bright and happy little girl, wanting nothing more than for everyone around her to be happy as well. Always full of energy, she could talk and ramble for hours about anything that crossed her mind. Just as mischievous as her sister, she knew she was the baby of the family and could get away with anything, though to her credit, she didn’t abuse that much. Her parents called her their little Seedling, the youngest of them all so full of potential and eager to grow and make her parents proud. P’Li often called her a cuddlebug for her affectionate nature (am I stealing that from Kat’s fic bc it made me scream into my pillow for five minutes straight? Maybe. You can’t prove anything).
In present age, she’s a lot more similar to her childhood self than Suiren is. She doesn’t talk that much anymore, if at all, and her happiness is often clouded by the harsh world around her, but some of that cheerfulness still shines through, especially when she’s alone with Suiren or with Tenzin’s kids. The energy once used for rambling and chasing butterflies and racing with her sister is now almost always redirected into chores and housework, though if Suiren offered, she’d gladly race her again (and probably win tbh, her legs are longer and Renny prefers faster methods than running)
She doesn’t remember her parents well, and their faces have blurred beyond recognition in her mind. It’s why her appearance doesn’t affect her as much as Renny’s own does her. She’s not a carbon copy of either of her parents like Suiren is, she’s more of an even mix. She knows what Suiren had told her, that she has their mother’s eyes and their father’s nose, but can’t piece anything together in her head. She keeps her hair, as dark and silky as Suiren’s, though thicker, at shoulder length, a bit uneven in places as she cuts it herself. As a child, Ghazan would tie her hair into twin pigtails every morning and she never let anyone else do it. She hasn’t styled her hair in any way since she took those pigtails out before going to bed the night their parents left
A disaster bisexual, proven by the fact that out of all people in the world, she falls for Opal Beifong. You know, the step sister of the woman Midori’s sister has to kill (or die trying), and the daughter of the woman who killed Midori’s beloved auntie P’Li. Yeah, tough case. Anyway, turns out, there is a limited supply of Ghazan’s charm in his genetic code and it all got passed down to Renny, because ‘Dori herself turns into an awkward mess whenever the opportunity to flirt arises. It’s fine though, Opal still finds her adorable. Also she probably had a small crush on Bolin when they first met, but that was because he was one of the only people her age to be nice to her and she got over it quickly
Remember how I said she was quiet and anxious? Yeah, understatement of the century. Her anxiety follows her around throughout her day and is the driving force behind all of her decisions. Many things, from raised voices to passive aggressiveness to bad moods to unfinished housework, can trigger it. When it does, she clams up and curls in on herself, but tries her best to deescalate or rectify the situation. She’s also very sensitive to any kind of conflict, even when she’s not part of it. Midori also worries a lot for Suiren while she’s away on missions, as she knows she’ll completely fall apart if something were to happen to Renny. She has nightmares about it often, almost every night that Suiren is not there. Little does she know, Suiren has similar worries over losing her.
Another big thing is her major inferiority complex. She looks at her big sister and sees someone who has always been talented, powerful and capable. Someone who can do so many things without even breaking a sweat. Someone who has girls fawning all over her. And then ‘Dori looks at herself and sees none of those things. She doesn’t hate Suiren for it, not at all, but tiny inklings of disdain sometimes take form. She tries hard to ignore it, but often can do nothing but listen to those thoughts swirl around in her head.
In summary: An anxious mess of a girl who is in desperate need of a proper support system and someone (*cough* Opal *cough*) who could assure her that she is enough and that it doesn’t matter if she isn’t like her sister, she’s perfect just the way she is
-
If you want me to elaborate on any of this (and this goes for everyone, not just anon) my askbox is always open and my desire to infodump about my precious traumatised babies never wavers

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You're sitting on the edge of the lake, your fingers aimlessly running through the water. The gentle breeze plays with your hair, sending strands dancing over your face.
Under the water, you're manipulating native algae to creep over the pebbles. As the child of Demeter -and a head councillor no less- it's your responsibility to keep the plants at camp in good health. And even though you're off-duty right now, you find yourself tending to them.
You almost don't notice when someone approaches you from behind.
"Hey there, Petals," a familiar voice says.
You whip around to see Percy's sun-kissed face grinning at you. Your heart flutters at the sight.
"Hey Perce," you try to say, but it comes out more like a squeak. This just makes Percy's smirk widen.
Gaze suddenly averted from yours, Percy's eyebrows raise in surprise. You turn back to the lake to see what he's looking at. Heat rushes to your cheeks when you realise that around your fingers, half a dozen water lily buds have sprouted in the water.
You quickly pull your hand out, hoping that Percy isn't thinking about what a loser you are. You're used to your powers manifesting unexpectedly, but gods it's embarrassing when it calls you out in front of people.
You can't bring yourself to look at him, eyes averted even when he sits down right next to you. You busy yourself by clearing the lilies, causing them to brown and wither beneath your touch.
"Stop that, they look lovely," Percy interjects, quickly snatching the last remaining bud from your murderous grasp. He holds it delicately, stripping the leaf from the long stem.
You're still avoiding him, face flushed pink. So Percy rests a fingertip beneath your chin and turns you himself. His hands are tough and calloused from years of sword fighting, but he feels warm and gentle when he touches you.
With a lopsided smile, he slips the bud behind your ear. His fingers brush your temple on the way, and to your absolute horror, the bud blooms into a full white lotus.
"Oh my gods," you groan, burying your red face in your arms. You hear Percy laugh, a gentle thing that sounds like a breath of wind.
You're pretty sure everybody at Camp knows you have a massive crush on the black-haired boy. Unfortunately for you, unlike other girls, you don't have the luxury of hiding your feelings. You have little to no grasp on what your magic chooses to do when exposed to your stupid feelings. Especially not when Percy Jackson is involved.
You must be the most pitiful camp councillor Camp Half-Blood has ever seen.
"Hey, don't be embarrassed," he murmurs, his voice now so, so close to your ear. "It's just a flower."
You peek up at him, hoping your pupils aren't too dilated. "Yeah, and magic that blossoms every time I do anything," you mumble. Percy gives you the sweetest, most understanding smile known to man. You can't believe he hasn't run away in repulsion yet.
"I think it's cute," he laughs affectionately.
Your mind flashes back to a few weeks ago. You and a large group of campers were sparring on the large grass field. When Percy stepped forward for his turn and you were met face-to-face, the shorn grass around your feet sprung up into long, grassy seed heads. The entire field had turned into a paddock in seconds, so tall it obscured your mortified expression. But while the rest of the campers were laughing mercilessly, Percy's intent gaze through the grass-heads was soft and considerate.
Your breath catches at the identical look in his eyes now, deep and green and all-encompassing. He drops it for a second, looking down to gently grasp one of your hands. He looks at it for a moment, soft curiosity etched on his face as he traces circles onto your palm and wrist.
In the wake of his finger's touch, blossom petals sprout up from your skin. He smiles at the reaction.
"It's true then?" He hums, syrupy eyes meeting yours as he presses a soft kiss to your knuckles. You know that vines have started growing throughout your hair, petals and leaves adorning your locks until your hair resembles that of a willow tree's canopy.
"Is it?" He murmurs when you fail to answer, spare hand reaching up to brush a curtain of willow leaves from your face. Hesitant doe eyes look back at him.
You still don't respond, words stuck like sap in your throat. Percy lets out another breathy laugh.
"You do know that you're not the only one with uncontrollable powers, right?" He grins. Then his hand is back on your face, this time cupping your cheek. He gently turns you head to stare out at the lake.
Where the water was calm and still minutes earlier, the lake's edge now laps eagerly at both of your feet. Above you, a storm has rolled in. Soft droplets have begun to speckle your skin, and you realise with caught breath that they feel like warm kisses.
You look back at him, his gaze having never left you. "Is this you?" You breathe.
Percy shrugs nonchalantly. "Yes and no. I can't really help it," he grins sheepishly. "Water tends to respond to me, whether I want it to or not."
You can't help but laugh, your worries and embarrassment melting. That sure sounds familiar.
The rain continues to fall, surrounding the two of you in a gentle mist before growing into a steady patter. The storm's growth is mimicked in his eyes, unidentifiable emotions swelling in the green depths.
Percy leans closer, his lips now just a breath away from yours. "You know," he says, his voice barely above a whisper, "I think our powers are trying to tell us something."
Your heart pounds in your chest as you meet his gaze. The vines in your hair grow longer, rooting you in place and winding tendrils around the places where Percy holds you. He doesn't pull away though, instead putting his other hand around your neck and letting the foliage tie you to him.
He doesn't look at this curse like others do, instead leaning into it with fascination. At this moment, you realise that maybe your powers aren't a curse after all. They're a part of who you are, just like the water that bends to Percy's touch.
Your heart is pounding in your chest, and you wonder if Percy can feel it through the vines that tether you together. You comforted by the knowledge that Percy’s heart must be doing the same thing anyway, as the lake is far from quiet now, the waves rolling in strong and fast. You’re both surrounded by the churning water, but you can't tear your eyes away from each other. You finally distinguish the emotion in his eyes, as you recognize the hunger in yourself as well.
Unable to wait any longer, Percy finally closes the distance between you, his lips meeting yours gently but so eagerly. His thumb drowsily pulls at your lips, teasing your mouth open. You lean into his attention for once, hands curling around his dark hair.
"You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that," he murmurs against you, barely pausing before kissing you again.
You remained locked in a tight embrace for only the Gods to see, your bodies drenched and overgrown. And around you in the passionate water, hundreds upon hundreds of water lilies have sprouted.

For many years, it was thought that the name "Worm Moon" referred to the earthworms that appear as the soil warms in spring. This invites robins and other birds to feed—a true sign of spring.
However, more research revealed another explanation. In the 1760s, Captain Jonathan Carver visited the Naudowessie (Dakota) and other Native American tribes and wrote that the name Worm Moon refers to a different sort of “worm”—beetle larvae—which begin to emerge from the thawing bark of trees and other winter hideouts at this time.
March’s full Moon often plays a role in religion, specifically in Christianity, this Moon is known as the Lenten Moon if it is the last full Moon of the winter season (i.e., if it occurs before the spring equinox) or as the Paschal Full Moon if it is the first full Moon of spring (i.e., if it occurs after the spring equinox).

This holiday marks the Spring Equinox, which happens before March 19-22. It is the second of three spring celebrations (the midpoint between Imbolc and Beltane)  during which light & darkness are again in balance, with light on the rise. It is a time of new beginnings & of life emerging further from the grips of winter.
There is much debate regarding the origins of Ostara due to the lack of primary sources about this sabbat. One theory is the name of Ostara came from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eostre. Another theory is that Eostre is more of a localized goddess in Kent County, England. Despite the questions of her origins, Eostre is associated with modern-day Pagan traditions of Ostara.
There is no evidence that the ancient Greeks or Romans celebrated Ostara, although they did celebrate their own spring festivals, such as the Roman festival of Floralia & the Greek festival of Anthesteria. It was a time to honor the returning sun, fertility & rebirth.
Related festivals:
• Nowruz- March 19th
Nowruz marks the first day of spring & renewal of nature. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox. It is also celebrated as the beginning of the new year by people all around the world for over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East & other regions.
It promotes values of peace & solidarity between generations & within families as well as reconciliation & neighbourliness. Nowruz plays a significant role in strengthening the ties among peoples based on mutual respect & the ideals of peace and good neighbourliness.
Traditional customs of Nowruz include fire & water, ritual dances, gift exchanges, reciting poetry, symbolic objects & more; these customs differ between the diverse peoples & countries that celebrate the festival.
• Holi- March 25th
Holi is a popular & significant Hindu festival celebrated as the The festival of colors, Love &Spring. It commemorates eternal and divine love of the deities Radha & Krishna. Additionally, the day signifies the triumph of good over evil, as it celebratess the victory of Vishnu as Narasimha over Hiranyakashipu. Holi originated & is predominantly celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, but has also spread to other regions of Asia & parts of the Western world through the Indian diaspora.
Holi also celebrates the arrival of Spring in India, the end of winter & the blossoming of love. It is also an invocation for a good spring harvest season. It lasts for a night & a day, starting on the evening of the Purnima (full moon day) falling on the Hindu calendar month of Phalguna, which falls around the middle of March in the Gregorian calendar.
• Easter- March 31st
also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday is a Christian festival & cultural holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus Christ, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, & penance.
Easter traditions vary across the Christian world & include sunrise services or late-night vigils, exclamations & exchanges of Paschal greetings, flowering the cross & the decoration and the communal breaking of Easter eggs (a symbol of the empty tomb) among many others. The Easter lily is a symbol of the resurrection in Western Christianity traditionally decorates the chancel area of churches on this day & for the rest of Eastertide. Additional customs that have become associated with Easter & are observed by both Christians & some non-Christians include Easter parades, communal dancing, the Easter Bunny & egg hunting.
Other Celebrations:
• Festival of Luna- March 31st
Is a feast day honoring the Goddess Luna who is seen as the divine embodiment of the Moon.
The Temple of Luna was a temple on the Aventine Hill in Rome, dedicated to Luna, the moon goddess. Its dedication was celebrated on March 31st, thus the celebration.
According to Tacitus, it was built by king Servius Tullius. However, the first confirmed reference to a temple to Luna dates to 182 BC & refers to one of its doors being knocked off its posts by a miraculous blast of air & shot into the back of the Temple of Ceres. That account probably places the temple at the north end of the hill, just above porta Trigemina. The temple was struck by lightning around the time of the death of Cinna, as was the temple of Ceres. After the destruction of Corinth, Lucius Mummius Achaicus dedicated some of his spoils from the city to this temple. It was destroyed in the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD & not rebuilt.

[Traditional Chinese Festival] Customs of 臘八節(Laba Festival) in China.Eng Sub
Today(January 18, 2024) is the traditional Chinese festival,臘八節 Laba Festival.Let’s learn about some interesting traditions and customs about this festival.
【About 臘八節(Laba Festival)】
Laba Festival (Chinese:臘八節) is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the eighth day of the month of La (or Layue 臘月), the twelfth month of the Chinese calendar. It is the beginning of the Chinese New Year period. It is customary on this day to eat Laba congee.
Laba Festival was not on a fixed day until the Southern and Northern dynasties, when it was influenced by Buddhism and was fixed on the eighth day of twelfth month, which was also the enlightenment day of the Buddha. Therefore, many customs of the Laba Festival are related to Buddhism.
The Laba Festival's name represents its date on the Chinese calendar. La is the name of the twelfth and final month, and ba means "eight/八". In ancient China, the "eight/八" referred to making sacrifices to eight gods at the end of the year.
In its original form, the festival was celebrated by making sacrifices to gods and ancestors to wish for good fortune, health, safety, and a good harvest in the new year. The word la originally referred to these sacrifices.
After Buddhism spread to China during the first century CE, the festival was used as commemoration of Gautama Buddha's enlightenment. It was given a fixed date (the eighth day of the twelfth month) during the Northern and Southern dynasties.
【Customs of 臘八節/Laba Festival?】
Laba congee/臘八粥
Tumblr media
Traditionally, the consumption of Laba congee is an important element of the festival. There are multiple legendary accounts of the dish's origins. One story says that it originated in the Song dynasty with Buddhist monasteries giving congee to people in honor of the story that Sakyamuni (Gautama Buddha) reached enlightenment on the eighth day of the twelfth month after eating congee.
Laba congee or Laba porridge (臘八粥; Làbāzhōu) is very popular in many places in China. Different kinds of rice, beans, nuts and dried fruits are the main ingredients. People believe that it's good for health in the winter.
It is also known as "eight-treasure congee" (八宝粥; Bā bǎo zhōu)and is usually made with eight or more ingredients, representing good luck. Eight is a lucky number in China, and the ba in Laba also means eight.
There are many variations of Laba congee in different regions of China. Ingredients can include mixed grains, such as rice, millet, and barley; beans and nuts such as mung beans, azuki beans, lotus seeds, peanuts, walnuts, and chestnuts; dried fruit such as red dates, longan, raisins, and goji berries; and other ingredients such as vegetables and meat.
2.Laba garlic/臘八蒜
Tumblr media
Another Laba food is Laba garlic, which is particularly popular in northern China.Garlic in Chinese (蒜; suàn) has the same pronunciation as calculate (算; suàn), and it is said that on the Laba Festival businesses should balance their books and calculate their revenues and expenditures for the year.Laba garlic is made by soaking garlic in vinegar. Laba garlic is soaked in vinegar from the Laba Festival until Chinese New Year. The garlic and vinegar are then used alongside Chinese dumplings (jiaozi) around Chinese New Year.

Desserts in China
There's quite a large variety of treats and desserts in China (more than you can imagine), so here are some of the most common ones!
Almond jelly/tofu - 杏仁豆腐 - xìngréndòufu Despite the name, almond jelly doesn't actually have almonds in it. Almond jelly is made from gelatin and almond milk, although some recepies use dairy milk instead.
Glutinous rice balls - 汤圆 - tāngyuán These rice balls are made from glutinous rice balls with a sweet filling, such as red bean paste (a pretty popular filling in desserts, I've been fooled more than once when purchasing what I assumed to be a chocolate filled pastry).
Red bean buns - 豆沙包 - dòushābāo One of my favorite desserts so far. These are steamed buns with a sweet red bean paste filling that I'd definitely recommend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egg custard bun - 流沙包 - liúshābāo A sweet and savory bun, with a lava-like egg yolk filling. A pretty interesting dessert, as it's both sweet and savory.
Pumpkin cake - 南瓜饼 - nánguābǐng I haven't tried this yet, but it definitely looks good. A fried and crunchy cake with a sweet filling such as red bean paste.
Eight treasure rice pudding - 八宝饭 -bābǎofàn This is a pretty popular dessert, especially during the Lunar New Year. It gets this name becase of the toppings, which are eight or more different types of dried fruits and nuts arranged on top of the sweet rice, with (once again) red bean paste.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hawthorn stick/ Candied Haws/ Sugar coated haws/ Bingtanghulu - 冰糖葫芦 - bīngtánghúlu This treat has quite a few translations and you may have probably already seen it. This is basically candied fruit covered with a sweet, crunchy and sugary syrup. Traditionally, Hawthorn is used but other fruits such as grapes, strawberries and oranges are also popular options.
Sachima - 沙琪玛 - shāqímǎ I haven't tried this snack yet, but it looks quite fascinating. Sachima is made from fried batter stuck together with a sugary syrup, with an interesting texture.
Sesame balls - 芝麻球 - zhīmaqiú Similar to the rice glutinous balls, this treat is also made from glutinous rice flour with varying fillings including lotus seeds, mung bean and red beans, and sesame seeds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Water chestnut cake A sweet pan-fried cake made from chinese water chestnut, with a unique semi-transparent appearance.
Wintermelon puff/ Wife cake/ Sweetheartcake - 老婆餅 - lǎopóbǐng This cake has many names, mainly because it has several different origin stories, each more fascinating than the next. This dessert is a flaky pastry with wintermelon, almond (not red bean this time!) paste and sesame filling.
Fortune cake - 发糕 - fāgāo Not a fortune cookie! This is a spongy steamed cupcake cake commonly made for the New Lunar Year celebrations and occasionally other events. They're usually a white-ish or brown-ish color, but they're often dyed bright colors to add extra festivity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mooncake - 月饼 - yuèbǐng This is a pretty well-known dessert, commonly prepared for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Mooncakes are smallish steamd/fried (depends on the region) cakes with a sweet filling that can also sometimes have an egg yolk inside.
Osmanthus cake - 桂花糕 - guìhuāgāo This is a unique traditional pastry made from glutinous rice flour, honey and osmanthus. This cake has a really interesting texture, as it's quite dense but also airy in a way? I'd definitely recommend trying it, as it's not super sweet and goes really well with tea.

Once the wax melts, stir everything (the oils and beeswax) until well blended and remove it from the heat.
Add the lavender and yarrow oils, stirring them in slowly. As you do so, look into the mirror and say, I am lovely, I am desirable, I am magical. Beauty is more than skin deep. See me for the magnificence of my inner self.

Light the candle and climb into the tub. Allow yourself to soak in the warm, fragrant water.
Use the herb pouch to wash your body, as you do, gaze into the candle's flame.
Visualize yourself radiating an aura of self-confidence and power. See yourself as the sort of person who attracts attention from those who are worthy.

Mysterious Lotus Casebook 蓮花樓
Spicy goji and lotus seed soup
麻辣枸杞蓮子羹
Recipe from the official drama artbook
Tumblr media
Prepare the lotus seeds* let it soak in water a little. Wash some rice** and put it in the pot covered with water up to half the pot, add the lotus seeds when the water is boiling. Let it stew on low heat. (Play with the dog a bit, weed the plants some) Add some dry chili, goji berries and rock sugar. Gulu*** a little and it's ready!
Tumblr media
Personal Notes:
*I you use dry seeds, soak in water for the night, save the fragrant water for the soup, open the seeds to remove the sprout otherwise it will give a very bitter taste to your dish.
**just a handful, or it won't be a soup. I'd suggest using glutinous rice, it taste better for sweet soups, or at least round rice ("sushi rice")
***when it's boiling again
- Traditional Chinese Medicine would recommend serving this hot but it should be tasty as a cold treat as well.
- The title says 麻辣 so it implies the use of sichuan/mala pepper 花椒. You can try if you enjoy the taste. (I personally dislike it and that's my main issue with ShìChuan cuisine, I can't have the 辣🌶 without the abundance of 麻.)
- If you don't trust HuaHua's bìchá-poison-damaged eyesight "creativity", replace the chili with dry red date/jujube 紅棗 to make this dish more traditional.

Delphi darlin', I simply must know: What do you headcanon to be the brothers' favorite sex positions? Maybe pick up to 2 for each, in case you can't decide.
-SK😈👑
Sassy, my love, light of my life...You must be trying to kill me. Because, sweet hell, I about sublimated reading that. I can't even begin to describe how red my face is right now. But y'know what? That's okay. We're gonna have some fun on this most horniest of nights.
All right, kids, buckle in. Because it's getting hot in here, that's for damn sure. 🥵
(AFAB reader, mentions of somnophilia, breeding kink, mating press, exhibitionism, mirror sex, pegging)
Tumblr media
Belphegor
Let's start with the youngest for once. Belphie is a sleepy boi. We all know this. He likes to let you take the wheel and do most of the work. Cowgirl/Reverse Cowgirl are perfect for that! He gets to watch your tits or ass jiggle while you fuck yourself dumb on his cock and he only has to put in the minimum amount of effort. It's honestly a dream come true.
Speaking of dreams, though...I also headcanon that he has no qualms with you waking up stuffed full of him as long as you have no qualms with it. And so spooning comes into play. Maybe he lifts your leg, maybe not, but he loves how well you respond to him even in your sleep.
Beelzebub
Beel knows he's bigger than you're used to. He knows that he could easily hurt you, and he never wants that. This sweet boy is going to take his time working you open so that you can take every inch of him. He likes to lay you out of the kitchen counter with your knees over his shoulders to start.
But it's when he takes you upstairs to him room and puts you in a mating press that he really gets worked up. It's the way he's able to rest his hips against yours, how his tip kisses your cervix with every thrust, the thought of filling you to bursting with his seed...
Asmodeus
He has his own bathroom for more than one reason. Asmo enjoys to have sex face-to-face in the bath. The intimacy, the warmth, the wet slide of your bodies against each other as you ride him or he guides your movements, he loves it all.
He also loves sitting you in his lap in front of the full-length mirror in his room. Having you watch where he disappears into you, how your fluids combine and make a mess of his silk sheets. He likes to watch how your tits jiggle with every thrust and the beautiful expressions you make when you moan his name.
Satan
Satan's a goddamn freak, okay? You have the option to fuck him in front of not one, but TWO of his brothers. He has no qualms. None whatsoever. I fully believe he'd bend you over the dinner table in front of God and everybody just to show them that he can. That said...he likes to bend you over. Tables, desks, study carrells in the library, the back of the couch in the HoL library (while Lucifer is in his office, of course), you name it. The best part? At least one of you can read while he does.
Jokes aside, Satan is also a hopeless romantic and I think he'd also enjoy lotus. Sitting with you in his lap, your arms and legs wrapped around him, foreheads touching as he rocks into you slow and deep...
Levi
Sweet Levi. He really, really, really wants you under his desk, sucking him off while he games. He's so red and stuttering so bad the first time he asks, but after that, he starts to get bold and will gently push you under the desk and spread his legs.
I also think Levi is another one who would enjoy spooning. Poor thing is so anxious most of the time that I don't think he'd be comfortable with eye contact at first. So, you facing away from him is the way to go. He can hold you close, maybe even wrap his tail around you, touch you to his heart's content, but he doesn't have to be nervous about you watching him.
Mammon
He likes to fuck you in his car. Full stop. Doesn't really matter the position as long as you're in his car with your pants off. He really likes to put the seat back and have you ride him, though.
Mans is also a massive switch. Like. Switchiest switch to ever switch. As such, he enjoys when you peg him. Either bent over his couch or pool table, or with his legs over your shoulders in bed. (Call him a good boy, too. He might combust.)
Lucifer
I'm probably gonna catch some flak for this, but this man is the horniest motherfucker in the game and he is ready to fuck as soon as you are. Whenever, wherever, however, he is down. Now, that being said...
One of Lucifer's favorite pastimes is spreading you out on his desk with the door open for all of his brothers to hear. It's especially fun when they've been a particular nuisance lately, as it serves the dual purpose of letting off some steam and punishing his brothers. All this with your consent, of course. He's a gentleman, after all.
I also think that Lucifer would be particularly fond of lotus or face-off. One where you can move at your pace and he can worship you, but that he can still take over if he wants. He thinks you're absolutely perfect and he likes to be able to show you. Face-to-face positions are perfect for that.

what if suiren fell in love with opal instead of her sister falling for opal?? would midori date bolin instead??
Look, here's the thing, there's a difference between Suiren falling for someone and someone falling for Suiren. Idk if Opal is quite Suiren's type, but even if she was, Suiren def isn't Opal's. Opal grew up with Kuvira, so she knows full well what that level of emotional constipation leads to and is 100% not impressed. And Midori would probably have a complete mental break over Suiren just HAVING to fall for the same girl as her, since of course Opal would choose the gorgeous and extremely capable Suiren over the painfully average Midori, right?
Even if in some universe Opal did fall for Suiren, I doubt Midori would go for Bolin instead. She did have a small crush on him at the very beginning, but that's because he's the first person her age who treated her nicely, and as they get to know each other better they become more akin to siblings

I don't think we're emotionally ready for this, but can Li Lianhua eat spice?
Okay so we know the Bicha/Verdtea poison neutralises the allergens in peanuts so it doesn't affect Li Lianhua. That implies a certain level of personalisation to Li Lianhua's immune system in general, but also shows that any sort of "toxin", even the kind of allergen that seems to only affect Li Xiangyi relatively mildly, gets neutralised by the poison. Presumably, his body can't absorb that allergen.
So peppers are spicy because of something called capsaicin, which burns your tongue and creates the feeling of pain. That's probably classified as a "toxin" by the poison, right? So can Li Lianhua taste spice?
If he can't, it would absolutely explain why, to Fang Duobing's horror, he added red peppers to the lotus seed dessert he made him for during the Cailian Manor case. Li Lianhua was a street kid, which means he doesn't really have a very solid grasp on what most people consider tasty food and suitable flavour combinations. Then he's poisoned, and if the poison causes him to be unable to taste spice, it absolutely stands to reason that he doesn't think chillies don't belong in deserts. He probably thinks "oh the color is pretty, I don't get why people low key die when they taste them. Let me add them to this dessert for my new friend and see if he reacts as hilariously as other people do to it".
Actually now that I think of it, what other foods would the poison affect?

Hera, queen of Olympos, the bride of thundering Zeus, protector of marriage, of the joining of hearts and the creation of bonds, of the building of home and the finding of family. Great Hera, whose presence honors any wedding day, whose favor graces any marriage, I pray to you, O goddess, grant to me a joyous union, a love to last, a harmonious home. I ask your blessing on my household, O Hera–may it be a place of happiness and affection. I ask your blessing on my marriage bed–may it be a place of joy and pleasure. May my mate and I share our lives; may we grow old together, merry and content; may our words be honey-sweet, and may our love be ever strong. Shining Hera, I ask your blessing.
“O Hera, Queen of Gods, divine protector of marriage, From your throne above, look upon us with favor. Majestic and exalted, cloaked in unyielding loyalty, Bless the bonds we forge, and the promises we make. Grant us the strength to uphold love’s sacred vow, To support and cherish, through trials and time. May our hearts reflect your undying commitment, As we seek harmony, guided by your wisdom. Hail Hera, the eternal matriarch, in reverence we call, With offerings of peacock plumes and lilies white. Embrace us in your grace, bestow upon us unity, As we honor you, now and in all our days.”
I praise you bright and noble Hera, great lady of Olympos, gracious queen of the deathless gods, dark-eyed goddess, fairest of the children of Rhea, graceful and comely, cloaked in the starry skies, garlanded in poppies fragrant and blood-red, crowned in brightest gold, the lotus wand in your hand, your form ever draped in the finest of silks, majestic one whose blessing is sought by all, whose gifts are treasured, whose favor is a surety of good fortune. Hera, champion of great cities, gurardian of ancient Argos and the pretty isle of Samos, warder of the bounds of marriage, protector of women in the old world and the new, unparalleled goddess, white armed one, sovereign of the high-reaching heavens, I honor your might.
Deep-eyed Hera, beloved bride of mighty Zeus, mighty goddess, fair of face and silent of step, noble your manner, stately and poised your form, a queenly presence is ever yours, godly in glory, womanly in grace and beauty. Beloved Hera, patroness of kings and princes, friend of women, of mothers, upholder of marriage, of the right of lovers to join hearts and hands; lavish your gifts, liberal your hand, limitless the blessings you bestow on those you favor. Hera, the broad sky is yours, and the sweet air we breathe; to you we turn to for harmony and wedded bliss; to you we turn to for strength in the passion and turmoil and hard work of marriage; to you we offer our thanks for a life of love. Well-crowned Hera, beautiful one, revered one, greatest of goddesses, I praise and honor you.
Hera of the deep heart, the beautiful goddess whose true radiance would blind mortal eyes, whose steps fall softly in the golden halls of storied Olympos. In silks your fair form is draped, O Hera, heavy with jewels is your crown, the sweetest of perfumes surround you; in ancient times you received the highest honors, the finest of offerings were ever yours, your shining temples stood across the land. Hera, defender of cities, protector of marriage, champion of the love that upholds a family, that cherishes a child, you are the friend of those who hold the household dear. Queen of the heavens, holder of the lotus staff, the poppy and the pomegranate have you in hand. Hera, supreme in dignity and grace, unsurpassed in goodness and kindness, I praise you.
