May I request for yan House of the dragon platonic like everyone is platonic yandere for reader? And basically, the reader is Rhaenyras little sister, who was born when Aemma died. Rhaenyra hates readers because she thinks reader killed her mother. So, while Rhaenyra isn't there, Alicent is and comforts/mothers reader. The reader is close to all her siblings ( minus Rhaenyra) and her niece and nephew. Timeskip to the night in Driftmark,. The reader walks in and sees Aemond and asks what happens, somewhere along everyone fighting Rhaenyra snarkily says "don't think I didn't notice you ran to their defense" and reader snaps back and is like "when have you done anything kind to me? Why should I stand by you when your cruel to me" Alicent smirks as Rhaenyra realizes how much of a bad sister she was. The reader ends the big argument by saying "while my nephews do deserve some punishment, taking their eyes is far too extreme" and after, while reader was in their room, Rhaenyra came in a begged for forgiveness

Hello.  Everyone is a platonic yandere for the Princess.  Did I understand the question correctly?  I hope you liked it.

   The birth of Queen Aemma begins and her first Princess is born. There is no problem at the moment.  However, Baelon's birth causes the death of Queen Aemma.  Prince Baelon dies a few hours later.  Rhaenyra blames her father Viserys and her younger siblings for her mother's death.  Rhaenyra never approaches or cares for her sister.  King Viserys is very angry with Rhaenyra for her behavior.  King Viserys spends most of his free time with his newborn daughter.  He tries to be the best father he can for the little princess.  Alicent takes the little princess under her wing.  Because she knows what it's like to be without a mother.  Moreover, Hand of the King Otto and the Velaryons are determined to play a role in the Princess's upbringing.  They will do anything to make sure the princess has a good life.  Over the years, the Princess turns into a very beautiful and intelligent young lady.  The Princess becomes a good big sister to all the children Alicent and Viserys have.  The princess is devastated by the loss of Laena.  She is in grief with the Velaryons.  When the princess arrives in the throne room, she is shocked to see her brother Aemond's face.  She immediately hugs her brother and tries to comfort him.  Rhaenyra's impudent behavior angers the Princess.  The anger of the Princess, who did not even raise her voice until this age, surprises everyone.

   "Sufficient."

   Everyone was quiet and attention was focused on the Princess.

   "What could be more normal than to be with them? Why should I be with you and your children? You have treated me like an enemy until this age. I will be with my family who love and protect me. You cannot be a family by blood. I hate and detest you. You are not worthy to be a princess. You are the disgrace of our house."

   Rhaenyra was shocked by the words she heard.  Her sister, whom she had been an enemy to for years, had put her in her place.  The princess turned to face her father.

   "How can you remain silent while Aemond's questioning is demanded? Do not try to do such a wrong, Father. I want justice for Aemond right now. Lucerys will be swept away. Or he will be stripped of all his privileges and titles. And he will never appear in court again."

   King Viserys could see the fire in his daughter's eyes.  The princess finally stood up after so many years of silence.  King Viserys had chosen the second option.  Everyone but Rhaenyra supports the Princess' decision.  The princess turns to Aemond with a triumphant smile.

   "Justice has been served, brother, don't worry. No one can harm our family anymore."

   Alicent tearfully hugs the Princess.  Aemond admires his older sister, who literally fights for her like a dragon.  Perhaps the innocent admiration in little Aemond's heart will turn into a dark obsession in the future.

Swaxpi

The natural sunlight of Pandora blinded the marine for a few seconds. Blinking a couple of times to adjust the sudden brightness. Here she was, in the far away planet that is the ideal of new human colonization. And by god, is Pandora beautiful, almost makes her wanna cry. But she came with a new mission and goals. Now arriving and being assigned under the group section following ex-colonel Quaritch. 

After hearing the news of Jake Sully now considered a traitor to human kind, the marine now needed answers. It isn't like him to just act out like that. There has to be some logical reason. Seeing as he has gone native, it will be tricky to find him. But hopeful with her new position, finding Jake sully will be easier. Hopefully. 

“Our mission is to hunt down the one they call Toruko Makto, Jake Sully” Quaritch gives a brief description of their new mission. Marine stood out among the rest of her ‘squad’ as everyone else literally is 4 feet taller than her and blue. Though she paid close attention, she couldn't help but feel weird. 

But now that the squad is heading out, to look for him in the forest to look for him. And while no success, they did find the old shack at the last battle that Jake had with human Quaritch. Not only that, but to see the last minutes of the fighting in a recorded camera of the old armor, the marine almost didn't recognize jake. He looked feral and angry. 

“That is Jake’s woman” one of the members points out the female na’vi in the recording. “She is an animal,” the other commented. In a way, she did. 

But then suddenly, with a turn of her head she looks at the direction of the forest. “You see something soldier?” Quaritch asks, noticing her looking out. Giving a quick look around her, she shakes her head. “No sir, nothing” she replies. 

Though, she could have sworn she heard a voice. Somewhere near a distance.

The surprise attack was indeed surprising. The recom team captured four na’vi children and one human child. Yet two of the four na’vi children have five fingers and eyebrows, indicating they are mixed. 

“Show me your fingers” Quaritch demanded one of the children, and without hesitation, the young boy flipped his middle fingers up at Quaritch’s face. It made the man grin, but the marine almost wanted to laugh. Why does it remind her so much of jake? 

“You’re his alright” Quaritch comments. The marine girl blinked a few times. Are they Jake’s kids? 

Quaritch takes off the mic neck piece from the child and turns it on. And out comes a voice the marine woman thought she would never hear in a long time. 

“Lo’ak? Lo'ak, do you read me?” Jake Sully. Sounding alive and well. And it seems Quairtch knows it too. Shit, if the kids really are his, it will make the situation tense and anything could go wrong. Yet she is the enemy to them. What on Pandora is she gonna do? Be part of the reason for hurting her best friend's kids or will she go rogue? 

Guns were pointed at the children's heads, neither recom hesitating to be rough on the kids. Especially the little one. “Really sir? They are just kids” the marine girl spoke, her eyes narrowing at her commander. Quaritch shook his head dismissively. “They are the spawn of the traitor. They are valuable so long as they dont do anything rash” he responds. 

She is not liking every second of it. 

The youngest child yelps in pain as the one holding her was causing her pain. “Easy! Damn, let me have her” she tells the big blue off. She grabs the youngest in her hold, still being strong but hopefully softer than how the other was holding. The recom walks away in annoyance. The child however was close to crying. Leaning closer to her ear, the marine whispers “ssshh, its going to be ok. Your dad will come save you soon. I need you to be a big girl and be strong”. 

It sort of seemed to work. Now to figure out how to help the other literal big kids without having her head blown off. She can only hope Jake can get his blue ass faster.

It was night but it was perfect for neteyam and his parents. Yes, they told him to stay put and not move. But how could he stay still when his siblings are in the hands of the enemy? Following quietly, neteyam hid among the large plants, letting the darkness cover him. 

Getting closer, he can see those false na’vi holding down his siblings. He looks and sees tuk, scared yet calm. A human woman was holding her from behind. Narrowing his eyes, neteyam wonders why there is a single human in an all blue team. It won't matter, she along with the others will die. 

So being quick, he managed to kill one false na’vi, however he exposed himself. 

“NA’VI!” one of the recom shouts. Just in time jake catches neteyam and pushes him down to the ground, avoid a flood of bullets. Neteyam knows he will be in big trouble later, but it will be worth it. 

The marine knows she will be in serious trouble later but right now it will be worth it. 

Bullets and arrows were flying around, taking a moment to use it, the marine woman took out one of her bombs and yanked off the ring. Throwing it in the center of where everyone was at. Quickly counting how many seconds she has, the marine grabs the kids and yanks them to a certain direction. 

“Go go go go!!” was all she yelled, pushed the youngest first to the direction where she saw the na’vi. The others followed as she did, counting the time the bomb exploded. Bodies flying all around. The light from the bomb gave her enough sight to see where she was going. However, it was too good of an escape. A sudden and quick sharp pain was felt on her leg. But she couldn't stop to see what it was. Mostly likely she has been shot. By why? It doesn't matter at the moment. 

“MARINE!” she heard quaritch shout. Not looking back she continues to guide the kids deeper into the darkness. 

Until a giant blue body tumbled her to the ground, blade against her neck.

Neteyam hissed dangerously at the unknown woman who kept touching his siblings. He raised his arm ready to kill the woman once and for all. 

“STOP!” kiri shouted, grabbing his arm, forcefully trying to take the blade away from him. Lo’ak also forcefully neteyam to back off from the woman. He looked at them in confusion. “She didn't hurt us! If anything she made sure those killers didn't hurt us any further” kiri was quick to explain. Lo’ak nodded, “yeah, she calmed tuk down and made sure she didn't cry '' he added. 

Tuk wasn't far, “she is really nice! Not like those killers' '. 

Neteyam looked down at the human who was still laying flat on the ground. “Listen, I understand you want to end me. But I am not your enemy. I know I looked like it, but trust me-” the lady’s words were cut by the worried shriek of a female na’vi. 

The kids turned around and saw their parents approaching. Quickly they all ran towards them and hugging them for dear life. Weeping and crying, the parents hugging their children as they sigh in huge relief. “My children! oh thank eywa, you are all safe!” the female na’vi says. After the kids were being checked over, the marine took a good look at the male na’vi. Looked a lot like the recom blues, but also a native. 

Her thoughts were interrupted when the oldest son yanked her up and pushed her rather roughly towards the parents. “The human was there with the demons, holding tuk against her will” Neteyam states. Anger still present. 

“She is not like them!” Tuk protests. Eager to go side with the human woman but jake wasn't letting her. “Please, she didn't want to hurt us,” Kiri adds. Neytiri was ready to kill the human, but Jake gently placed a hand on his wife’s shoulder. Getting right at the marine’s face, mad yet confused.       

The marine couldn't help but let out a nervous chuckle, “long time no see little miss damsel” she says. 

“No fucking way….”

Neteyam didn't know what to feel. One moment his father was ready to kill the human, and now his father was happy and rough housing with the demon. His mother was just as confused as he was. His younger siblings however were happy and enjoyed playing with the human. Maybe it was so late into the night, maybe the thrill was dying down and he was just hungry and tired. 

Yet he cant help but not trust the human woman. How can his father have him accept the demon who held a weapon near his baby sister? Sometimes he understands his mother more. 

“And this I dunked him in the orange liquid! Oh you should have seen his face! He looked like a shaking, crusty chihuahua!” The marine woman was retelling a funny memory to Jake's family. While the kids laughed, neytiri trying to remain a stoic face couldn't help but crack a smile. 

Jake looked like he wanted to die on the spot. 

“Oh yeah? What about that one time when we were in Guatemala? You were so drunk that you were flirting with that bartender” Jake smirks as he recalls another memory from their shared past. The woman blushed but also looking ashamed. “Not my proudest moment,” she confessed. 

“Swaxpi is so funny! I hope she stays with us” tuk giggles as neteyam tucks her in bed hammock. Neteyam gave a surprised look, “why?” he asks. Tuk shrugs, “I like her!”. Shaking his head, he gives her a kiss on the forehead and leaves. 

He was tired but not sleepy, so much has happened in the few short hours. He needed some time alone. So he quietly leaves his family’s hut and out to the nearby area. Silence was perfect. 

Until it wasn't 

Seems like the human woman was also in the same area neteyam wanted to be in. Neteyam grabs his blade by instinct, observing her move in case she does something. “Calm down kid, I will be gone soon” the human woman explains. 

She turns around and her eyes meeting his. 

“Come here, I could use some company,” she says. 

Huffing in annoyance, neteyam walks over to her and sits near a branch, keeping distance from her. It didn't bother the woman. From what Jake told her, his oldest son is more cautious of possible danger and tends to be alarmed often. 

“Swaxpi, your siblings and your mother have started calling me that, I'm not very well educated on your language, so what does it mean? I hope nothing too mean” the woman asks.  Yes, neteyam has also noticed that too. Mostly tuk and lo’ak calling the odd woman hat name. But hearing that his mother calls her that too was very surprising. 

“It means family member…” neteyam replies slowly. 

The woman humms at that. Seeming more relaxed, swaxpi makes herself comfortable on a branch. “I like it, but I find it odd. I only have met all of you in less that a day, was part of a enemy squad, exposing some of your father’s embarrassing secrets and now look. Already seeing me as family-” 

“I don't, you are a demon no matter what. A killer.” Neteyam cuts her off. 

Swaxpi lowered her gaze, her smile faltering a bit. “Call me what you like neteyam, but never call me a killer. Yes, I joined the RDA. Yes I have held weapons. But never ever have I taken a life. Human nor na’vi. I never brought death to anyone” Swaxpi calmly defends herself. 

Long minutes have passed and neither spoke a word. 

“They can call you swaxpi all they want. But in my eyes, you are nothing to me” neteyam declares. Almost trying to convince himself more than the human. The woman however lets her lips grow back into a smile. “Sure neteyam, whatever you say” she replies. 

Yes, neteyam will never call her Swaxpi or anything endearing towards her. She is nothing to him, nothing. 

But if she is nothing to him, why does it feel wrong? 

This took too long that I would like. BUT! I hope you all liked this one. And also hope you guys understand the changes I made. So, until next time! See ya!

To celebrate Asexual Visibility Week (which Happy Asexual Visibility Week by the way omg), here is a list of characters who are now asexual because I said so:

Crowley and Aziraphale (Good Omens) I mean, this is basically canon for me already but their relationship genuinely means so much to me because it's not inherently romantic or sexual or even strictly platonic, they just have such a strong emotional bond and love each other in a way that I think could only be asexual. And being fairly new to my sexuality (not even a year yet) I really needed them in my life. Maybe I don't want an allonormative relationship - maybe I just want what they have. Idk they're just really special to me.

Belle (Beauty and the Beast) Belle being ace removes the beastiality aspect of the story so I think this is best for everyone involved. (This goes for Tiana too, actually - ace!Tiana, let's go). But she literally fell in love with the Beast because of his personality after spending a long time getting to know him (and because of a Library but ykw me too girlie). And it helps that I've had a strong attachment to Belle since forever (and I actually played her in a school production when I was 6).

Peter Pettigrew (Harry Potter) Right, so I do hate Peter and I wouldn't do this if I didn't have to, but omg he is so asexual. And definitely not saying that asexual people are going to betray and murder their best friends but I feel like not fitting in with his very allonormative group and maybe not even knowing what the term asexual means could be an interesting motivation for his actions. Peter feeling like he's broken somehow for not feeling what the others are feeling, thinking there must be something wrong with him since everyone else is falling in love, viewing himself as unloveable because platonic love isn't enough when everyone else has a brilliant romance, turning to the Dark Lord because he's been left behind but maybe this will fix him... and then losing that platonic love too and realising he didn't need fixing after all and his friends were enough, but now it's too late. So, anyway, ace!Peter makes me sad.

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) "There's never been anything romantic between Gale and me." This is 100% because Gale is a walking red flag but I'll take it as an aroace thing too. “Remember, we’re madly in love, so it’s all right to kiss me any time you feel like it.” The fact she didn't fall head-over-heels in love with Peeta as soon as he said this is honestly all the evidence I need. Also trying to act like you're madly in love with someone? I know it was for survival but, again, I'll take what I can get. "What I need is the dandelion in the spring... And only Peeta can give me that." This is not an allosexual relationship, I will not change my mind. Personally, I think Katniss is probably demisexual and I love her for that.

The Doctor (Doctor Who) If I had a nickel for every time David Tennant played an 'immortal' genderfluid asexual non-human who loves the stars and humanity, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. And if I had a nickel for every time I was in love with those characters, I would also have two nickels. But, yeah, the Doctor is asexual, that's just canon for me (and David Tennant said it too soooooooo).

Zoe Nightshade (Percy Jackson) The Hunters of Artemis are a sisterhood that requires you to swear off love and relations with men. Oh no, what a sacrifice! Come to think of it, she also has a connection to the stars - this is becoming a recurring thing.

Artemis, Athena, and Hestia (Greek Mythology) The fact there is a trio of asexual goddesses will never not make me so happy. In the Homeric Hymns, 5, To Aphrodite, Aphrodite is described as having "no power" over these three, which basically just confirms what everyone was already thinking. Artemis is quite literally the Maiden Goddess, who asks her father, Zeus, to forever remain a virgin and protect those who wish the same. Regulus Black (Harry Potter) I apologise to all the Jegulus stans out there but you can pry Regulus from my cold, dead hands. Asexual and Bi/Pan friendships are my absolute favourite (shout out to me and my bestie <3) and that is exactly what he's got with Pandora. Also, after Sirius was disowned, the responsibility of continuing the Black family line would fall to Regulus and that aroace pressure makes for some beautiful angst. And it means he's okay with sacrificing himself because at least he won't have to force a life he doesn't want. Why does the Marauders era always turn so sad so quickly?

Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows) Again with the Asexual and Bi/Pan friendships - I'm really just projecting myself and my best friend onto Inej and Nina, but who's going to stop me? I could say Ace!Kaz as well but I think his is more just a trauma response than a sexuality.

we! deserve! a wta! laver! cup!

i mean, just look at the wta rankings. a wta laver cup would be a lot more competitive and balanced and fun than the atp version and it would also be grounds for a bunch of great player interactions that we deserve, so i'll be going over teams :)

graf cup is named after legend steffi graf, one of three singles players in the open era to win a calendar year grand slam. the other two are rod laver, who the laver cup is named for, and margaret court, a bigot. it will be held in berlin at uber arena, same location as the atp version. yk, if this was real.

also, i have no clue how teams are made for the actual laver cup. i just made these teams because i can. i'm the tournament director of this nonexistent tournament. what are you gonna do?

what the fuck is this about?

"it could open a floodgate they'd rather not open", that's a metaphor for people who don't wanna deal with their feelings for each other, and not because they'd just cry like some of you have said before. if that was about crying he'd just say that it could result in tears and not "open a floodgate they'd rather not open", because that was about FEELINGS.

if they were truly platonic, then why not say it? why wouldn't they say they love each other? yeah, obviously they do and they both know it, but it's different when it's said out loud, when there's a confirmation. ted said "I love you" to beard, then why not to rebecca? she's also his best friend. I don't know about y'all but I tell my friends I love them all of the time, and I'd say it especially in a moment like that. if they were leaving me, I'd hug them, I'd say "I'll miss you so fucking much", I'd ask them to call me and last but not least, I'd say "I love you". then why ted and rebecca, who have been the closest of friends, soulmates, wouldn't say that to each other?

because there's more than that. and this has been going on throughout the whole show, there's always something else with them, something left unsaid. rebecca was supposed to be the one to knock on ted's door on 1x07 and not sassy. rebecca carried the green army man in her bag all long. ted made biscuits for rebecca every single day for three years (who the fuck does that to someone they consider just "friends"? ted didn't do that to anyone else) just to get to know her and spend time with her. the only person on the show who ted truly dislikes is rupert, the person who hurt rebecca. rebecca had to put her thoughts in order before talking to ted about his departure, she had to really think this through in order to not say the wrong thing and push him away. rebecca knows she can be intense and impulsive, but with him? she had to be careful, and her conclusion taken out of all that thinking was to ask him to stay.

now look me in the face and tell me if that isn't love? pure love.

so now it's time to bring up this:

an explicit answer of how tedbecca was in fact considered, so no we're not crazy. we're not seeing things when there's not. everyone watched the last episode, everyone was there when the first scene showed up on our screens, you saw it too. and yes, it was cruel and it was nasty and we will probably never recover from it.

but the point here is, tedbecca could've been platonic at first, but towards the end... it wasn't. they weren't acting just like friends, there was something else. that's not how people treat their friends, just saying.

so I'd be really glad if everyone just stopped acting like we're imagining things or that we watched a different show because the proofs? they're all there, and it's fine if you don't ship it or if you wouldn't like for it to happen, that's your own deal and everyone is entitled to dislike something, but disliking a ship is different from pretending nothing happened because it did.

I will say that it’s not surprising for book Sansa fans to dislike GRRM’s writing because he doesn’t write her coherently at all, and treats her as more of a camera than anything. Not to mention he pairs her with too many much older men (I hate Sansa’s ships but GRRM clearly write Sansan as romantic). I’ve always thought that GRRM’s writing for Sansa’s chapters is some of his weakest. He doesn’t know how to handle this character. But her fans can’t admit that because then they would be admitting that the parts they love from the books is all the headcanons they made up instead of just being like “yeah I made up someone more interesting and complex because the book is weak and shallow in this area”. That’s why Sansa fans actively get offended when people bring up canon moments and canon quotes from her arc that go against the delusional metas they’ve read.

I have to agree, although for me the issue is with Sansa's characterization itself rather than the quality of writing in her chapters. I think George has done a great job with writing the plot surrounding her and she offers an interesting perspective on things, similar to how we get Catelyn's POV on Robb's war. The issue is that George expanded her role but he doesn't seem to have a solid idea of what he wants to do with her character. She hasn't become more active with her increased story presence. She does have moments that influence the plot but most of those aren't intentional and come in the form of her revealing information to the wrong person (i.e. telling Cersei of Ned's plans and Dontos of the Tyrells'). She hasn't learned or grown as much as her "peers" have and a lot of her chapters do have her used as a "camera" to show what's going on with non-POV characters. I think her character gets overshadowed by the plots she's involved in. George uses her to introduce and hide the plotting of others which is interesting to read, but it also leaves Sansa in a position where she just isn't meant to grow and learn like other characters. If we knew about, say, Littlefinger's true intentions from the very beginning then things wouldn't be as interesting.

To me, her strongest characterization was in AGOT, which makes sense because her role in that book is the one George created her for. She got to be directly contrasted with Arya and overall, I think her relationships with other characters are where we've seen her grow the most. I hate how George has written her relationships with all of these older men, but I do think her relationships with them (platonic) are an interesting showcase of her character. With Sandor and Tyrion, for example, we see Sansa confronting her shallow ideas of beauty and knighthood. With Littlefinger, he uses her as a pawn and manipulates her, but he's also teaching her and potentially handing her the tools of his own undoing. The issue is that a lot of people don't look at how she's actually written and assign her growth she doesn't have. I can understand the urge and I genuinely believe that if Sansa had the same level of growth as others, she would be one of the best characters in the books. She will undoubtedly continue to grow in the last two books but for where the fandom wants her to be, George would need to give her four books worth of development in a few chapters which seems...unlikely.

I do agree that there's an issue with her stans getting angry when confronted with the book content. I've had people get upset with me for simply mentioning that Sansa was a part of LF's plot to poison SW. Her stans want her to simultaneously be the smartest character in the books while also being the purest, most naive character in existence. If you "insult" her intelligence then you're misogynistic but saying that she knows something that she was basically outright told is also bad. A really frustrating attitude that comes from her stans being unhappy with how she's actually written in the books. I think a lot of it comes from people wanting her book plot to line up with the show, but there's just no way that's happening. The sooner her stans come to terms with that and learn to like how she's actually written, the better.

"Why are we getting ready here again when your place is closer to the club?" you complained as Mina fussed with her hair in the mirror. Both of your last exams had been today, and you had already either finished or turned in all of your final projects. The two of you were long overdue for some irresponsible fun.

"Because you have double sinks," she said as if it was the most obvious response in the world. Well, actually it kind of was. "Which is so unfair by the way."

"I mean one of them is Hobi's," you hedged, though you were secretly incredibly smug at your good fortune. Not only did you basically have an ensuite bathroom, the boy you shared it with was tidy and respectful. Besides the shower debacle, there had been zero issues sharing.

"Yeah but he keeps it so clean," she whined, and you grinned.

"I know, it's great."

"Man, he's gorgeous, sweet, funny, clean, AND has a huge - "

"MINA!" you screeched, hoping your friend wasn't in his room. He was actually in the living room with the other boys waiting for the two of you to leave, but you had no way of knowing that.

"Heart," she finished with a smirk. "What? What did you think I was going to say?"

"Why do I love you?" you asked with a groan, making sure your mascara had dried without smudging.

"Because I'm amazing, and still your best friend despite the fact that you've been ditching me for your hot harem for the past semester."

You winced, knowing she was right. It hadn't been on purpose - it was just easier to study and make plans with people you literally saw every day. Tonight was in fact one of the ways you were making it up to her. You didn't actually hate clubbing - every once in a while you were in the mood to dance - but you usually preferred house parties or smaller groups where you could relax and not worry too much about things like getting roofied or bending over and flashing your ass at everyone.

Today however, you submitted yourself to Mina's whims. So you put on your finest hooker heels and shoved yourself into a tight dress that made you feel like an overstuffed sausage. You knew you actually looked amazing, even if you felt like you were one wardrobe malfunction away from getting written up for indecent exposure. Your eyes were smokey and alluring, and your hair had been painstakingly styled to look effortlessly breezy.

"I know, I know. I'm the worst. Tonight I will partially make it up to you by dancing my heart out and hip bumping any gross randos away from your beautiful butt," you promised, taking a swig of your whiskey and ginger beer. You'd need a healthy buzz going before you started believing you had good dance moves, and you weren't about to rely on overpriced, watered-down bar drinks.

"You better," your best friend responded with a wink. "I called an Uber, I think we're about as hot as we're going to get."

"Which is incredibly hot," you finished for her. You clinked your glasses together, downed your drinks, then went downstairs to await your night's chariot.

Mina grinned in anticipation as the two of you headed down the stairs. She could not wait to see the reaction of your housemates. Would it be obvious if she pulled out her phone to take a picture?

"You two heading out?" Jin asked when they reached the bottom, turning to look at the two of you with a smile. His face froze when he got a good look at you, and Mina internally snorted. And you thought he wasn't whipped for you? For someone so brilliant you could be so endearly stupid sometimes.

The other boys turned as well, and if she had lower self-esteem she might have been a little miffed that they only had eyes for you. Luckily for everyone involved, she had a great therapist.

It was hard to contain her amusement at the various ranges of emotional constipation on display. Namjoon was staring, a forgotten book dangling from his hands. Handsome Jin had recovered somewhat and rearranged his expression, but his ears were bright red. Hobi's eyes darted from your face, to your bare feet, and then back up to your face as if he wasn't sure where it was safe to set his eyes. The grumpy one, Yoongi, was actually licking his lips.

The youngest had the most hilarious (and adorable) reactions, though. The three had turned to look at you at the same time, and their eyes bugged and jaws dropped in perfect unison. Jungkook's eyes, already naturally large, had widened into saucers. She could really see what you meant when you said he was a mixture of cute woodland creatures. Taehyung's eyes held a deep longing that actually made Mina feel a little bad for the guy. You loved reading - how did you not see the emotions written so plainly on his face?

The deafening silence was finally broken by pretty Jimin, whose face was dusted a pretty pink.

"Y-you two look great," he squeaked, chewing on his lip as if trying to prevent other words from spilling out.

"Thanks Chim!" you said cheerfully, and Mina almost rolled her eyes at the way your smile made him melt into the couch.

"Bye guys! Have a good night! Don't wait up!" You called as you headed to the front door with your heels in hand, apparently oblivious to the tangible yearning in the air. God, you were more clueless than an anime protagonist. Mina, however, was not. She smirked and waggled her fingers at the stunned group.

"Bye boys. I'll do my best to keep her in line, but no promises," she teased with a wink, enjoying the different degrees of jealousy flashing across their faces. So she wanted to stir the pot a little. Sue her. They were all good guys. Things might get weird or embarrassing or messy for a while, but you were all adults enough to resolve things in a healthy way. Life was all about change, and one of them (or more, she wasn't going to judge), might be the one to help you grow into living for yourself as much as you did for others.

Or maybe it would all end in disaster. It was certainly a possibility - nothing was absolute, after all - but she had a feeling things would end up just fine. And if they didn't, well, she would be there to help you back up when you fell. Just like you always did for her.

Shaking the alcohol-induced sappiness out of her mind, Mina followed you to the door and sat next to you to put on her shoes. It was time to forget about schoolwork and boys and problems and get jiggy with her best friend.

As soon as the front door closed behind you and Mina, the group in the living room let out a collective exhale.

"I kind of feel like going out tonight, actually," said Jungkook casually, starting to rise from the couch.

"Me too," chirped Jimin, moving to follow.

"Sit. Down."

At Namjoon's authoritative command, the two troublemakers immediately dropped back into their seats, looking chastened. He took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts and trying to scrub the image of you looking like sex personified out of his brain. Well, not scrub it completely - more like cache it for later perusal.

"Okay," he began, looking at his friends - his brothers. "Okay."

Despite the topic having consumed his thoughts since that disastrous group text, he still wasn't quite sure how to start. So he stood there like a lump, letting the silence grow to suffocating levels.

"We all like [y/n]. We don't know how she feels about us. Also we all love each other so we have to figure out how to deal without letting this get between us."

Everyone stared at Jungkook, who shrugged. Despite being the youngest, he often surprised them by showing his deeper, more mature side. It was easy to forget that he was actually quite astute and intelligent when he was rage quitting a video game or pouting for attention.

"That's… a pretty accurate overview of the situation," Namjoon agreed lamely. "So… We should talk about possible outcomes and how to handle them, maybe set some ground rules."

"That makes sense," Hobi agreed, though he looked uncomfortable. Well, most of them did. They had all been through a lot together, but this was an awkward, unprecedented situation.

"Before we continue, I need a drink," Jimin announced, bouncing up to head to the kitchen. "This is too much to think about sober."

In the end, everyone ended up joining him to get a glass or bottle of something. The dancer was right, a little social lubricant would make this entire situation easier to deal with.

"Alright, so let's discuss the possible outcomes," announced Namjoon when everyone had settled. He had taken the opportunity to grab the small whiteboard and easel from his room and set it up in the corner despite the teasing from his friends.

"One: She chooses me," said Jin immediately, snickering at the glares from the other boys. Namjoon rolled his eyes while uncapping his marker. The brainstorm went more smoothly after that, and by the end of a discussion filled with jibs, pouts, and giggles, they had settled on a final list.

1. She chooses one of us. 2. She chooses some of us. 3. She chooses none of us.

"Anything we're not thinking of?" asked the leader, looking around the room. Taehyung raised his hand.

"What if she liked all of us?"

Everyone stared, and Namjoon sighed. He couldn't say the thought hadn't crossed his mind, but it just seemed so unlikely. Still, it was a possibility, however remote it might be, so he added it to the board.

4. She chooses all of us.

With the options laid bare, the floor was now open for discussion. Unfortunately it seemed no one knew where to begin, until Hobi bravely made the first comment.

"Well… as long as she's happy I guess I can accept any outcome," he said bashfully. "I mean, I guess it would kind of hurt to see her with someone else, but I'd like to think I could eventually get over it."

"I'd rather see her with you guys than anyone else," Taehyung added with a nod, blushing. "At least then I'd know she was being treated well."

"Speaking of which, what are we going to do about Dongmin?" Jimin asked suddenly, looking pointedly at the older dancer. "He's sniffing around [y/n] and she's way too good for him!"

Namjoon sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. As much as he didn't like the idea of you with someone he didn't know, it definitely wasn't right to interfere in your life to that extent.

"[Y/n] is an adult and her own person," he said sternly. "If she decides to date someone else, we have to respect that." Jimin pouted and gave a sulky nod.

"So… what happens if she likes more than one of us?" asked Yoongi, speaking up for the first time that night.

"I mean, I was in an open relationship once, but it didn't really work out," Taehyung offered, frowning in thought. "I think it was more because of poor communication than the situation itself, though."

"I've only been in monogamous relationships," Jin mused. "I'll have to think about it."

The boys were all nodding thoughtfully, and Namjoon was pleasantly taken aback that no one looked offended or scandalized. Then again, perhaps it wasn't that surprising - the reason they all got along so well was that while their differences complimented each other, they were generally on the same fundamental wavelength. Huh, maybe this would be less complicated than he thought. Though these were all hypotheticals - there was no guarantee that you wouldn't eventually just fuck off and ride off into the sunset with this Dongmin guy.

And then Jungkook had to go and make it awkward.

"So, what about like threesomes or - "

"OKAY! Remember, these are theoretical situations, and if they come to pass, this would be something to discuss with [y/n] present!" Namjoon interjected in a strangled voice.

As if the exchange had broken the ice, everyone started laughing and the air in the room lightened visibly. The guys began falling into their usual interactions as they grew more comfortable, and eventually the conversation devolved into what almost felt like a [y/n] fanclub. Finally, Namjoon called an end to the meeting, feeling satisfied. He headed back to his room then sent the house group chat (minus you) a text with the final "rules" before erasing the whiteboard.

Andis got smacked directly in the face by Cupid watching Wyll's introduction, and Karlach with her golden retriever energy had him at hello. He was immediately drawn to both of their genuineness and sense of fun. Also watching Wyll with the tiefling kids made him swoon. However he does kind of have a crush on everyone new he meets and assumed it would just go away with time so he didn't really make a move beyond his normal platonic affection. His favorite thing about Wyll is his love of a dramatic flair and his unfailingly good heart. His favorite thing about Karlach is her sunny disposition and her love of trying new things. They also all really like dancing and music and that's something they bond over (no I don't have a ballroom dancing thing whatever do you mean,,,) He just loves them so much you guys <- projecting

Salix. Okay salixstarion is really interesting to me because for the majority of their relationship (act 1-mid act 2 at which point they break up) they go through varying degrees of hatred, contempt, and disgust for each other and for their situation. The thing that drew her to him is the fact that he's an elf, meaning she can't use her siren song on him and therefore he poses a serious threat to her safety within the group. The best way I'd describe their arrangement is, they're both playing the exact same game of 5d manipulation chess but they both hate it too much to realize the other person also hates it. Their relationship improves a lot after they break up in act 2 and by the end of the game she's started to develop a genuine crush on him, and him on her, which they then proceed to never address even though they're adventuring together post-game.

Ren and Gale clicked pretty quickly I think. They got talking to him at first because they recognized him as having been their classmate at wizard school, and then continued because of their shared love of their respective crafts. They adore it when he teaches them things about magic and just things in general because they love learning and he's one of the only people who's ever really treated them like they deserve to be taught, if that makes sense. They could spend hours listening to him talk. Ren also loves his artistry when working with the Weave, it reflects their own passion towards the more artistic and beautiful side of their work as an artificer. And he's such a genuinely good and kind person it's hard for them not to fall in love. He's perfect for them is what I'm saying

...I haven't decided who Monty's romancing yet-- I'm just gonna go with whoever tries to fuck him first because that's what's most in character lol. I think his endgame romance is Wyll because uh. Gwaincelot brainworms. My interpretation of it is he'd flirt with Wyll right off the bat, get rejected, drop the subject because he didn't care that much anyway, sleep around with whoever else, and then realize oh fuck I actually genuinely like him what the hell do I do!!! And then they get together sometime during act 3 and are ridiculously cute. I think he does have a brief fling with Gale during the sleep around phase but it's very much no-strings-attached. I really don't think he'd work out with Gale in the long-term. Wyll however I can see being perfect for him.

Cesair isn't romancing anyone I don't think because he's still not over his ex and also this is a playthrough with a dear friend of mine and I won't subject it to that (hi @otherworldlyjukebox ily). But I can see him with Gale, Astarion, or Minthara - he'd definitely end up ascending both of the boys but he'd be so chill with it afterwards. He's used to being subservient so he wouldn't see anything wrong with being Gale's Chosen or Astarion's Consort. There also are the narrative parallels between him and Gale and having had really imbalanced power dynamics in their past relationships. His moral code is really fucky so I could also see him raiding the Grove and recruiting + romancing Minthara if he was guided to that.

Very occ for Nessie, but I want to give her a revenge arc. Do you think that she'd ever be able to pin Jacob against the Cullen's in a vamp vs wolf war? Either Nes gets some revenge against her parents for their neglect, score, or her groomer gets killed alongside the people who supported his actions, which also score. Bonus points that she could just fake her death and the sides will blame eachother. Again, occ, but I want her to grow into a bitter person towards the life she was sealed into

I mean, as always, I must suggest that you can write the fic. Options exist, you can have your revenge fantasy and the internet will love you for it! No need to come to me.

A Caveat on Renesmee

@therealvinelle and I have a very specific interpretation of Renesmee that honestly isn't that likely when it comes to canon. Renesmee's going to have a very strange childhood, which is going to manifest in some very odd behaviors/world views, but closer to the mark is probably @franzias-cave in Just World Fallacy where Renesmee is a miniature Edward and Bella manifested in someone hilariously myopic, self-centered, and stupid.

Ultimately, though, in canon we only see Renesmee for three months and Bella pays almost 0 attention to her as our narrator. Renesmee can grow up to be almost anything and while I have my thoughts, theories, and justifications it's one of those where you can pretty much do whatever you want and you're not wrong.

Basically, you can't raise the OOC flag when Renesmee is "Sir Not Appearing in this Film".

Could Renesmee Get the Cullens and Jacob to Turn on Each Other?

Easily.

I posit she'd do so entirely unintentionally.

All she needs to do is either a) fess up what's happening with Jacob to the right person (or even the wrong person) or b) accidentally show what's happening with Jacob or c) Jacob fucks up.

I don't think all the Cullens are entirely on board with the imprinting thing, they've just been assured that it's platonic and trust Edward (the last person anyone should trust). Edward, with his gift, of all people would know what Jacob's secretly thinking in any given moment and if it's grooming. Surely, if Edward's okay with this, then it must be okay!

That alone means we have a ticking time clock of the moment Renesmee turns seven and Jacob goes, "ah, so we can be sexually active now!" Shit will hit the fan at that point.

If not before as my money is that when the Cullens next move, most of them assume Jacob isn't coming and will be very surprised and alarmed when he suddenly invites himself along.

But even backing up a bit, that means that the moment it's confirmed to one of them that this is grooming after all...

Oh boy.

First, the immediately will want to get rid of Jacob. Jacob, obviously, isn't going to like that and has in the past gone so far as to risk innocent bystander lives to see that this wouldn't happen (his sending Charlie to Bella so they wouldn't move without him). Jacob will flip shit, and from canon he can get... how do I put this scary when doing that.

Then we have the fact that if Jacob is guilty after all, why did Edward and Bella never say anything? The likelihood that Edward was fooled, that he didn't know, is very very very small and demands a lot of generosity on the part of the other Cullens. It's technically possible. Jacob could have blocked Edward at every opportune moment, always made sure he and Renesmee were out of earshot, coached Renesmee on exactly what to say and what memories to relay or not relay but...

Edward alone is looking extremely guilty.

Then you get to Bella, beautiful Bella, who will shout from the mountaintops that there's nothing wrong with imprinting and Jacob and her daughter were made for each other. Bella's going to straight up confess that she sold her daughter as a war bride to her best friend at birth and be offended that the other Cullens are offended.

So, you're immediately going to have a division in the ranks where you have Rosalie and Carlisle on one side (the others depend on circumstances but are either on board or neutral) and Bella, Jacob, and Edward on the other (though with Edward he'll want a careful balancing act where he can keep his family and keep Jacob! If push comes to shove, he'll try to keep the family which will pit him against a horrified Bella).

Could result in @therealvinelle's Bleach on the Brain and our joint Leech on the Rain or something else entirely.

And all Renesmee needs to do is let a few things... slip, and her family will implode.

What About the Wolves?

Probably no wolf-Cullen war.

Sam's pretty levelheaded and I see him not wanting to get involved in this madness. Jacob is asking for them to sacrifice their numbers so he can be a pedophile to a half-vampire hybrid. At least one of them is likely to die in this fight, if not all of them if Jasper uses his gift effectively, and Jacob doesn't give a flying fuck and expects them to back him up for this cause which is heinous.

Because of this, I imagine Jacob would immediately lose his pack to Sam and Sam says "no".

Jake's on his own for this one (and will rage against it and claim a great betrayal from those who should have supported him).

Is Bitterness Really the Outcome We Want for Renesmee?

The thing is, in all of these scenarios, Renesmee ends up with nothing. Even if she wanted to tear her family apart, remove Jacob if not murder him, what she's left with is absolutely nothing except her own bitterness and rage.

She has no family, no future, no companionship, no trust in the world or anyone else, just rage and this torn apart family behind her. She has nothing now.

Frankly, to me that sounds like the most miserable ending imaginable for her.

Eddie Munson // Aquarius

Eddie is definitely an Aquarius, this is a hill I choose to die on. He marches to the beat of his own drum and isn't afraid to express himself. Aqua's tend to be very strong in their likes and dislikes, we see this with his big speech in the cafeteria and how passionate he is about music and DnD. Aqua's tend to be unorthodox, and they like being that way. Eddie is very comfortable with his interests despite what others say, and he's definitely rebellious. He's very open minded about everything regarding the Upside Down and adapts to it fairly quickly. He doesn't change who he is no matter who he's with, whether it's Dustin and the Hellfire Club, or with people like Steve and Chrissy, he's truly an individual. Aqua's are very close with their friends, and form very tight bonds once they are in their inner circle. We saw his relationship with Dustin and then throughout the season how he interacts with the rest of the group. He's creative, artistic, and inventive (as a Dungeon Master and musician you kind of have to be.) Aquariuses are known to change people's lives just by being a part of it, and Eddie certainly does that, with the cast and the audience too.

Steve Harrington // Libra

I have seen so many people say that Steve is a Leo, and that's just wrong, he's totally a Libra and this is why I'm right. Libras are active, easy going, they prize beauty and are very social people. Steve is all of those things. Libras are very charming and easy to like, they tend to draw people to them. Steve possesses the ability to get people to adore him, we see this with Dustin, Robin, Nancy, and even Eddie in the last season. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus, which is all about love and relationships. You know who's big on love and relationships? Steve. We see this with his relationship with Nancy and how it ended. He was so heartbroken when he realized she didn't love him as much as he loved her. In season 4, he talks about how he doesn't want to have relationships just for sex, he WANTS to fall in love. Steve loves love. Libras are team players, and Steve was so quick to join in on all of the Upside Down nonsense. He's a people pleaser to a fault. Libras are also known to be a bit indecisive, we see this with his struggles to figure out what he wants to do with his future career goals. The only thing he isn't indecisive about is things regarding relationships, whether romantic or platonic, he knows what he wants he either doesn't want to admit it or doesn't know how to achieve it. Steve is a gorgeous person inside and out, and that's very Libra.

Robbin Buckley // Gemini

Robin is smart, adaptable, and an excellent communicator (even when she goes off with her babbling.) Gemini's tend to be very curious, and Robin is definitely that. She wants to be a part of everything that's going on, even if that gets her into trouble. Another trait of Gemini is the fact that they hate boredom, they always want to be actively engaged with the world around them. Robin is always one of the first people to jump on to a new task. Geminis usually have many different hobbies and interests, and we know Robin is in band, studies languages in her spare time, and has very unique tastes in movies. Gemini's are also known for being the type of friend you can always rely on, and Robin and Steve's friendship is probably one of the best one's I've seen on TV. Because I think Steve is a Libra, these two air signs are a match made in platonic heaven.

Nancy Wheeler // Scorpio

So this one I know will be controversial. Everything I see about Stranger Things and zodiac signs always has Nancy as a Virgo, she's totally not a Virgo, she's a Scorpio. Scorpio's are very imaginative and passionate, we see that with Nancy's drive to become a journalist. I think because she's smart and places high merit on school they think she's a Virgo, but I believe it's because she wants to get into a good school to pursue her dream career, not for the sake of academia. Scorpio's are magnetic and intense, they don't do anything half assed. That is Nancy to a T. Every task she sets her mind on she does, often fueled by her emotions. Scorpio's often present themselves as calm and smily to the world, but deep down they are extremely persistent and strong willed. This was Nancy's entire character in season 3. Nancy likes to be in control, and when Scorpio's are in control they feel safe. Scorpio's are also very complex, and like to dive deeper into the things that aren't skin deep. Nancy is always the first person to try and find out what is actually going on, it's what she is passionate about and that is the source of her inquisitive nature. Scorpio's are also known to have complex relationships, we see this with Steve and Jonathan. Jonathan and Nancy have nearly broken up every season since they've gotten together, and that's usually because Nancy is the one to start it, and if that isn't major Scorpio energy I don't know what is.

Jonathan Byers // Taurus

I don't think this opinion is very controversial. I often see Jonathan as a Taurus when people discuss Stranger Things zodiac signs, so I won't go into heavy detail. Tauruses are quiet, practical, stubborn, and resistant to change. If that doesn't sum up Jonathan Byers I don't know what does. He's an introvert and is pretty set on his opinions of the world and doesn't like to change them. He doesn't want to follow Nancy for college because he'd rather stay and support his family, which is in line with Tauruses love for stability. Jonathan has a hidden temper, and only unleashes it when someone "pokes the bull." We see that with his fight with Steve, when him and Nancy argue in the car, and when his mom is hell bent on saying Will was alive in season 1. Tauruses can be very opinionated, and usually stick to their guns. This is very evident in season 1 when him and Nancy are out searching for Barb. Jonathan isn't frivolous, he's very down to earth and sensible. When it comes to his personal life he likes to stay in his comfort zone, but when trouble comes afoot so does the bull.

hi! first of all, thank you for your blog! i'm a questioning aroace but i don't know much about it. i used to consider myself ace when i was 16, then i thought i was too little to know and now, when i'm almost 21, i found out more about aroace experiences and it just... feels right? i've dated twice. never kissed though. first time my girlfriend used to complain we were "just friends" and not "real" partners but i would always tell her i truly love her and that i see real love as best friendship. my second girfriend just accepted my way of love but a new problem occured. when we were friends and i was crushing on her, i could be affectionate and e.g. hug her, but when we got into a relationship i freaked out and was no longer touchy or flirty. she was fine with it though, but i broke up with her about a year later because this whole dating thing didn't feel right. i haven't been in a relationship for what seems like ages and i want one so bad!! but recently i've realized that many people don't see love the way i do. the first time i thought i might be aro was a year ago when i wrote a fanfic and showed it to my best friend. she texted me "it's nice and all but you described friendship. it's not love". and i was like???? but that's how i feel love? and she started sending me some charts about how passion is an important part of "real" love and that my description wasn't right. it made me want to cry. i thought... was there something wrong with me? around that time i tried to find out more about aro community but it was a bit scary. i thought these people were heartless because how can you NOT love someone romantically? then, when i had another crush, i told about it to that best friend i've already mentioned. she asked me to describe my feelings and when i explained them she said "it's not love, you wanna be friends". but i don't feel that way towards friends! i know it was a different feeling. still, i came to a realization that i might be aroace after all. although, a bit later i met an aroace guy online. we weren't that close, just chatted in a gc, but i messaged him asking for advice. and when i shared i might be aroace and told him about my way of seeing it he said "you're not aroace, you just don't like lovey dovey stuff". and now i'm so confused... but your blog really comforts me. i want to find myself in this world. and i think i really am aroace. but i have no one to talk to about it... i'm too scared i won't "fit in" again. so thank you for reading my message!!!! have a nice day!

Do you think it's possible you might be experiencing a type of tertiary attraction, Anon? Tertiary attraction is any type of attraction that isn't romantic or sexual, some common types are

Platonic attraction/squishes: This can feel very similar to romantic attraction and have a lot of the same symptoms, but doesn't feel romantic at all. Instead you want to be close to the other person, or be important them.

Alterous attraction: This can have romantic or platonic elements, but won't be fully either. If you think of platonic and romantic as being binaries, this would be a non-binary option. Very useful for people who feel like neither platonic nor romantic feels quite right when describing their attraction.

Aesthetic attraction: Basically being drawn to someone on an aesthetic level, and strong desire to look at or study the other person. Sometimes this attraction is described as being similar to a particularly moving piece of art or looking at something particularly beautiful.

Sensual attraction: a desire to connect in a tactile way with other people. Especially in a way that feels sensual like touching, cuddling, smelling, etc.

There's other types of tertiary but these are some of the more common ones (if you want to explore attraction in more detail, the LGBTIA Wiki has a great page on it.)

But yeah, it definitely sounds from this ask like you are experiencing some kind of attraction, so looking into attraction and different types of attraction may be helpful. One of the most helpful tricks for telling attraction apart is asking yourself what is the attraction making you want? Or what kind of pull are you feeling? Imagine different scenarios and see which one holds the most appeal to you.

Romance in general is tricky because it's not very well defined and it's very often described as 'you know it when you feel it'. Unlike sex where, while there may be some gray areas, people generally do agree on what sex is or isn't, there aren't really an actions that are always romance. Holding hands, giving people flowers, etc can all be romantic actions, but also can be platonic depending on the scenario.

So how do you know if your feelings are romantic or not? Romantic feelings feel romantic (which is so useless, right?). But there is an actual romantic feeling that makes people want to be in a relationship labeled as romantic or do actions or be in scenarios they view as romantic. Romantic people will often have scenarios that just feel romantic to them too that they'll want to play out with the people they're attracted to.

So if the idea of something feeling romantic, or having romantic scenarios in your head feels foreign to you, that could be a sign what you're experiencing isn't romantic. Similarly if you're attracted to someone, but would be happy in a relationship not defined as romantic, that could be another strong sign.

It's not always clear cut what is romantic feelings or not either, there are gray areas. Since you mention a few times that romance and friendship feel the same to you internally, I'd also suggest looking into these two labels:

Idemromantic: Someone who categorizes relationships as romantic or platonic but experiences no internal differences.

Platoniromantic: When someone experiences no difference between romantic and platonic attraction.

One last thing, based on how you describe relationships, have you looked into or heard about QPRs, Anon? QPR stands for queerplatonic relationship (sometimes also called quasiplatonic relationships or quirklyplatonic relationships). And that just means a realtionship that isn't easily categorized by romance or friendship. And they can be tailored to the people in the relationship and include the things they want but not what they don't want. If you really want a relationship but romantic relationships aren't working out for you or feeling right, this may be worth looking into. And you can have committed long term relationships in QPRs too.

So this is a lot of information, and it may take you a bit of time to go through it and process it. You don't have to figure everything out right away. But hopefully it gives you some direction to go in and some things to look into.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what other people have told you up until now, other people can't interpret your internal feelings, only you can do that. And both the aromantic and romantic spectrum are quite broad, and people can experience both in a lot of different ways.

Try and trust your own internal feelings and interpretations and go with what makes sense to you or what way of looking at things is useful for you. And frankly sometimes these things are a bit subjective anyways.

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten and Actual Nice Guys

Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsunomanika Dame Ningen ni Sareteita Ken (The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, henceforth "Angel Next Door") is the latest entry in the Impossibly Perfect Girlfriend microgenre (see Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie for another of the type). Mahiru Shiina, the titular Angel, is unapproachably beautiful, outwardly flawless, universally popular and very, very alone. The formula says male protagonist Amane Fujimiya is a nice guy who will, by virtue of being nice, turn this alone girl into a not alone girl because she is with him.

So, let's get to that. When Amane finds Mahiru sitting out in the rain with tears in her eyes, he pulls his first nice guy move, the most basic - he loans her his umbrella. This results in him being exposed to the extremely hazardous Japanese rain, which as expected gives him a cold. They turn out to be neighbors, so she takes care of him, and finds out he lives and eats like a slob. Her concern for his health leads to her sharing her leftovers with him and demanding to be allowed to clean his apartment.

From here they develop a relationship where Mahiru cooks for them both (using his equipment and sharing food costs) and generally helps him keep his space in order. He in turn is... very appreciative. It's not exactly an even trade, as Amane is well aware, but Mahiru increasingly insists that he does more for her than he knows. All along they are both very clear that this is a platonic relationship. Literally every other character looks at this and finds it baffling, and for good reason. Before the halfway point of the series Amane and Mahiru are doing things like pushing each other's bangs aside and getting lost in each other's eyes.

"Nice Guys"

It is common for the protagonist of romcom and romcom-adjacent anime to be a misunderstood or under-appreciated nice guy. It's unfortunately almost as common for him to be a "nice guy" but actually a huge asshole to everyone around him, especially prospective love interests. Sometimes he will have some informed core or offscreen history of not being an asshole. At best he will be superficially nice, handing out thoughtless compliments or sharing lunchboxes in a way that inspires more jealousy that appreciation.

In lesser shows, this serves to justify why he has an increasingly inflated harem of extremely thirsty busty bombshells. In better examples of the type he really does have those rough edges sanded down, or even experiences backlash for his behavior and learns a thing or two. Nonetheless, they give the impression that it's ok to be unknowingly cruel to others as long as you get better before Christmas, and doing that will get you a girlfriend before the end of the school year. I'm willing to forgive these sometimes (my Saekano review is exhibit A) but there is a fundamental wrongness to that premise.

A Different Setup

Amane is not unpopular for any particular reason, but rather because he doesn't stand out and doesn't have any ambition to do so. His big flaw is his lifestyle. He lives alone in what can only be described as squalor. He exclusively eats convenience store or fast food. He leaves his apartment full of scattered laundry, stacked up trash and recyclables, and generally just doesn't keep the place clean.

It's not quite clear why Amane lives this way. He has a very supportive family, who care about him and wish him only the best. At first we can only infer a certain lack of self-regard. We do eventually get some measure of explanation for why he lives apart from his loving family, and the show allows us to make the connection to his emotional state on our own. In any case, I appreciate the combination of having an actual reason for the main guy to Be Like That and not just spelling it out up front.

Relationship Goals?

The romcom formula demands a Bro character who knows the main guy isn't just a sadsack no one should talk to. Itsuki Akazawa fills the slot, with a twist - unlike the vast majority of his ilk, he's in a long-term relationship of his own, fully predating the events of the show and not subsidiary to it. He and his girlfriend, Chitose Shirakawa, are very publicly together, not so much as to be all PDA all the time but still very much in couple mode. Their relationship serves as a sort of foil to Amane and Mahiru's.

When it comes to Chitose and Itsuki, everything is open book. They're together loud and proud, they compliment and tease each other and so on. By contrast, Amane and Mahiru keep everything under wraps. They continue to not interact at school, since any hint of closeness would subject them to considerable unwanted attention. In private, Amane is vocally grateful, but he stomps non-platonic feelings down as flat as he can. Likewise, Mahiru is increasingly open about her respect for Amane, but she always avoids giving specifics about why. This doubly self imposed restraint is the central pillar of the show, and it ties into what makes Amane special.

Actual Nice Guys

Amane has all the standard issue nice guy features, but he has unusual ones that I want to highlight. In everything he does, he seeks to understand what the other person actually wants. Giving someone an umbrella is easy - who likes getting rained on? What's not easy is having someone reject your compliments and respond by learning what kind of compliments they actually want. It's vanishingly rare in real life for someone to genuinely appreciate someone's hard work over their inherent skill, let alone in fiction. Amane even goes so far as to stand up for Mahiru when others make the same mistakes he did. Don't call her "Angel". Don't treat her like an inherently perfect artifact. Approach her as a person, with her own needs and desires.

He is also deeply respectful of Mahiru's boundaries. She doesn't want anyone to know that they have any connection to each other, and he agrees absolutely. This is something he does with active effort, not just passive compliance. When he is carrying her home with an injury, he first makes sure to bring her clothes to disguise herself. She is also explicitly disinterested in any sort of romantic relationship. When he does start to recognize budding feelings for her, he suppresses them from developing further because accepting them would just lead to temptation to go places where she isn't planning to go. Obviously what they each want changes as the show goes on, but this starting position really establishes that Amane is not simply planning to take maximum advantage of the charity of others.

The thing that makes Amane special is he understands that kindness is not unilateral. It's not "I will help you, even though this will also inconvenience you in some way". This even extends to how he gives compliments. He approaches from the perspective of how to fit into the other person's life, with full regard for their boundaries. He recognizes when people help him and openly expresses his appreciation. There are entire shows about learning those lessons (looking at you Oregairu). When it comes to defining what an actual nice person looks like, I can't think of much else that does it better, regardless of medium.

Conclusion

Score: 8/10. Angel Next Door is well constructed, evenly paced, and funny when it wants to be. More importantly, it provides actionable examples of how to be good to other people. While this is not exactly a "something to say" anime, I appreciate the position it takes on what actual as opposed to performative kindness looks like.

Recommendation: Impossibly Perfect Girlfriend shows have a very specific target audience. If you're not into the fantasy of being a high school guy who lucks into a relationship (however irregular) with a girl who is just super into doing everything to make you happy, you know that and this is not for you. After all, it still makes that last imperfect assumption that being a nice guy is sufficient to have a magical girlfriend fall into your lap. If you are into that or at least don't mind it, do give this show a shot. If nothing else, it's a good comfy time.

Comparisons

Amane and Mahiru's relationship in Angel Next Door shares some notable features of the central relationship in Toradora! In that case, it's the male protagonist Ryuuji who takes care of female protagonist Taiga, in all the same ways - cooking, cleaning, medical care, and emotional support in the face of family problems. This along with Ryuuji's gentle nature and care for his mother are what establish the nice guy part of his misunderstood nice guy characterization. It also has the advantage of mitigating the stereotypical gender roles problem Angel Next Door can't avoid. In another difference, Toradora! has a better-justified "how do they not see it" in their respective crushes on other characters, which only fully fall apart in the third act and clear the way for them to see their true feelings clearly. In Angel Next Door, Amane's active efforts to reject his feelings out of respect for Mahiru's boundaries end up reinforcing his nice guy status, at the cost of making the lack of progress less plausible. Toradora! works better overall, but I appreciate a show with such similarities carving out space of its own.

Working!! also makes use of relationships as foils rather than just characters. It goes all in with three foil pairs. The big difference between it and Angel Next Door is what sorts of foils Working!! uses. In each case, the relationships are mostly similar with the highlights on the small differences. The foil relationships in Angel Next Door are very different, with the focus being on the small similarities. No better/worse here, I just found the two ways of approaching the same technique to be interesting.

Saekano is one of the shows that starts with the guy being shitty to people and needing to learn to treat people the way they want to be treated. This makes his development more dramatic, but whether you consider it more satisfying is up to whether you can connect to him from the beginning. Personally I find the additional theme of artistic fulfillment makes Saekano a more well-rounded show, despite the "why does anyone like him (at first)" factor. Nonetheless, I acknowledge that even to the end, Tomoya could learn a thing or two from Amane.

Final Thoughts

Angel Next Door got to me in a very personal way. I have had very similar habits to Amane's lifestyle at the beginning of the show, so I found him more relatable than I might have otherwise. Separately I had a relationship that started similarly to the one in the show. We were sharing food and taking care of each other emotionally and medically before ever dating. Even our respective family circumstances had certain superficial similarities to those in the show. Alas, things ended poorly. Watching Angel Next Door, I couldn't help but think about what might have been, and what things were like when they were good.

Picture To Burn: El. This one is all headcannon. But I think Joyce would get scary-angry over a bad breakup like this and I think El would pick that up the longer she's with her. Same from Max. We've seen her get angry already, during season 2 especially. I don't think she'd be like this with Mike, but with whoever she dates after (if it isn't Max). I also love the line "my daddy's gonna show you how sorry you'll be" and the fact that Hopper is overprotective of her

Teardrops On My Guitar: Steddie. I had to. My favorite trope is Steve talking about his crush on Eddie as a way to flirt, but being slightly vague (like, "they've got the best curly hair") and Eddie just not connecting the dots.

A Place in this World: Max. "Even though I'm not the only who feels the way I do, I'm alone on my own and that's all I know" "I'll be strong, I'll be wrong" "I'm just a girl trying to find a place in this world" "I don't know what I want" This song is so Max coded

Cold As You: Stancy. "I start a fight cause I need to feel something" "I'm not what you wanted" "Ain't no use defending words that you will never say" "Every smile you fake is so condescending" "Counted all the scars you made"

The Outside: Steve. "How can I ever try to be better? Nobody ever let's me in" "I've been a lot of lonely places. I've never been on the outside" "I would give it all up to be a part of this"

Tied Together with a Smile: Platonic Stobbin. They are both extremely strong, brave, important characters who put themselves down so much. I also can imagine them saying the chorus to each other. But the first part is about Robbin. She puts herself down a lot in season 4, talking about how she know she can be too much and that she's awkward. Second part is Steve and how he goes above and beyond for all his people. Especially the line "I guess it's true that love was all you wanted, cause you're giving it away like it's extra change"

Stay Beautiful: Ronance. I love the idea of Robin calling Nancy her "beauty." Like "Sorry, I can't pick up another shift, I have to see my beauty" But also, I think Nancy would deal with some impostor syndrome and imagine Robin there to help her through it. "it's hard to make a conversation when (s)he's taking my breath away" Even if they never date, Robin would tell her she's beautiful

I think they dated in high school and had a very similar thing to the Nancy-Steve-Jonathan thing. I can imagine a young Hopper sneaking to Joyce's room and them having quiet conversations like with Steve and Nancy. Then them getting back together now and reminiscing about their high school dates.

Invisible: Pre-Jancy. They likely knew each other kinda well through their brothers and I think Jon had been crushing on her for a bit. He would likely see her with Steve and think they wouldn't be a good fit. I can also really see this being from Barb's point of view

A Perfectly Good Heart: Lumax, from Lucas's point of view. After the first real break up - after Billy - Lucas is hurt. He's confused and angry but he doesn't want to hurt Max. More than anything, he's confused. He understands Max is going through a lot, and doesn't want to add anymore onto her plate, but he thought he could be there for her at least.

his soul is EXTREMELY attached to bledgrace's dean winchester. dean is his soulmate and its always been that way for as long as he can remember. will actually kill bill sirens @ you if you so much as look at dean the wrong way. god help you if you actually hurt him.

cares for and maintains a beautiful and healthy orchard of over a dozen apple trees. most of them are well over a century old and in wonderful condition. (babes and i have a headcanon that the orchard ties into both dean and abes conditions on earth. i.e. if dean dies, the orchard starts to die with him due to its connection but also because abe starts neglecting it due to Grief. its happened on multiple occasions.)

was once a hitman for hire for around a decade or so (making him practically a perfect marksman), called it quits after his past came back to haunt him one time and caused deans death. he swore he'd never go back to that life and has since been attempting to live in peace, working towards redemption.
