Semi-forgotten Walter Lantz characters, 'Space Mouse' and 'Windy & Breezy' feature in a couple of Spanish Woody Woodpecker comics in 2004.

Could they have been proposed to return in the 1999 Woody Woodpecker animated series as well...? 🤔

If I say the word "barrufet", nowadays all Catalan speakers will think of these guys:

The famous Belgian comic book and cartoon Les Schtroumpfs (translated to English as The Smurfs) was translated to Catalan for the first time in 1967, and the translator chose the name would be Els Barrufets.

The translator, Albert Jané, got the name "barrufet" from a being in Catalan mythology. The original barrufets in mythology are tiny wind elves or tiny wind demons.

In Spanish, the translation is Los Pitufos, which also comes from Catalan culture. These comic books were translated to Spanish for the first time in 1969, and the translator who made it is a Catalan man named Miguel Agustí. He decided to base the translation on the Catalan fairytale about a boy called Patufet who was born as small as a coin and who eventually hides from the rain under a lettuce and gets eaten by a cow, but later escapes in a fart.

In fact, Patufet is usually drawn wearing the traditional Catalan clothes that men used to wear in the 1800s, including the iconic traditional Catalan hat (the barretina). My guess is that being tiny and wearing this hat is what made him connect The Smurfs and Patufet.

Patufet is one of the most famous children's stories in Catalonia, but I don't think Spanish people know it (unless they watched Les tress bessones/The Triplets maybe?). If there are any Spanish people reading this who have never lived in Catalonia, could you please comment or add in the tags if you knew Patufet's story?

I did some more research on the movie Goomer (1999) because it intrigues me, I wanted to find out more about it then I stumbled across one of the artists who worked on it and I found this!

If this is true that means that this movie started out as a series but then they changed it to be one movie which would explain these missing clips that I saw on YouTube but only the people who worked on this film can confirmed this.

If anyone else have seen this movie un edited with theses clips please let me know.

Had a fantastic fic-writing experience when my brother visited

#I love drawing MSPaint-quality stuff with a laptop touch screen/trackpad in art programs that I spent money on #it's silly fun n.n #The Magnus Archives #TMA spoilers #TMA fanfic #TMA #he knows vague TMA stuff since I mainly talk to him about it but he hasn't heard more than scant minutes here n there #he said he would've listened to it at his library preservation job if they had allowed headphones #but he also didn't last long at that job. Too many splinters #I also loved this moment because last time someone very obviously leaned over to read what I was doing #it was before class and my friend leaned over to read my book #then after a beat he went 'wait what the fuck' and leaned back defeated upon discovering it was in Spanish #as if he had forgotten I had just gotten back from working in Spain and was going through books I'd bought there #fun fact: my very first post was a trackpad comic like this b/c I wanted a not-barren blog fast and I had one on hand #another fun fact: the fic on AO3 is Take the Long Way Home 👀 #I did this instead of writing more because words weren't happenin today #my art

Mafalda: A Comic Staple of Many A South American's Childhood

Mafalda is an Argentinian comic by artist Quino, and follows the life of six year old girl, Mafalda in Argentina. She worries about humanity, world peace, and war, and is both innocent and a bit cynical about the situation. I remember reading once that she represented the then young middle class of Argentina and their concerns.

I love it, and if you can find English versions of it, I implore you to read it. I always saw it as a plea for people to listen to each other more, using satire and humor to bring to life how apathy is the worst enemy to freedom, democracy, and fairness.

I was hit by nostalgia today, and decided to write this post to try and share the wonders of Mafalda with at least a few people.

I've found some already translated comics to share with you all:

I checked online and there are a few of her books in English sold online! I should grab one... as soon as I have the money to do so.
