“So, you're Jia's father, huh? I don’t think I've seen you here before, and I’m sure I would have recognized you.”
With his back straight and arms folded, Yoongi gives the woman in front of him a quick once-over. Mid-40s, freshly single, and definitely in need of some companionship. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out; she’s been talking his ear off for the past twenty minutes like he’s some kind of remedy to all her problems.
Honestly, he just swung by to pick up his four-year-old from daycare after another grueling day at work. But the moment he walked in, it was as if all the single moms latched onto him like a flock of hungry geese. This one’s name is Sandra in particular.
It reminds him of his college basketball days, how the cheerleaders all too eagerly swarmed around him after sinking the winning shot at the championship game. Shame he was too busy eyeing the girl in the stands to care, her face buried behind a book twice as big as her head. Who reads an 800-page novel during the playoffs anyway?
Fate, as one may call it, intervened about a week later when his best friend became said girl’s lab partner. Yoongi didn’t make any sudden moves at first, but well, he did make her his wife three years later.
“It’s just so nice to finally meet the father of such a sweet child. Especially considering how many dads tend to take a backseat in their child's early years.” Is she still going on? Yoongi does his best to stay present, though it’s proving unsuccessful. “And Jia truly is an angel! It’s clear you’re doing a wonderful job raising her, even with a full-time job and all.”
Yoongi’s eyebrows knit together at the somewhat odd choice of words. “Thanks,” he drawls out, noticing her pupils dilating with every breath. “Most of the credit goes to my wife though. She’s a great mom to Jia.”
“Jia’s m-mom?” Sandra stutters, her mouth slightly agape. Yoongi senses the gears turning in her head as she struggles to process the unexpected presence of his wife. Tempting as it is, he holds down a smirk. Of course, he’s a happily married man–for nearly eight years now.
“Yeah,” he replies simply. “She’s usually the one to pick up our daughter from daycare, but she’s been working a lot of overtime lately. I thought I'd come instead so she can get some rest."
“Oh, well that’s very–“
“Daddy! Daddy, you’re here!” The sound of a familiar high-pitched voice, along with a light pattering of feet, diverts both adult’s attention.
“Hey kid.” Yoongi effortlessly lifts the small child once in front of him, securing her in his arms. “Have fun today?”
Jia gives an enthusiastic nod, bright red ribbons in her hair bouncing cutely as she does. Proudly, she shows him the drawing she made.
“See? It’s me, you, and mommy!” She makes sure to point to each part of the picture with her pointer finger.
Yoongi gently takes the artwork from his daughter’s hand and lets out a soft chuckle. “Now this is what I call a masterpiece! Mommy’s gonna love hanging this one on the fridge. How about I hold onto this and you go grab your backpack, okay?”
As soon as Jia’s feet touch the carpeted floor again, she races off to her cubby in the far corner of the room. Yoongi shoots Sandra a final glance before slowly following behind. “We got to get going, but nice meeting you.”
“You…too.” Sandra’s response is more than disappointed as she watches the father-daughter duo make their way out of the building. Evidently, Min Yoongi isn’t the single dad she originally assumed. Funny, she swore there wasn’t a wedding band in sight. Maybe she missed it.

“No, I’m sorry but I’m certain we haven’t used any of your services in the last six months. My husband canceled it in late October.”
With one hand, you grip your cell phone up to an ear while the other pops open the dishwasher. You’ve been on the phone with the cable company for half an hour, trying to make sense of an unexpected charge that appeared on your bank account this morning. You consider yourself more patient than most, yet after working all day, a pile of laundry waiting to be washed, and dinner threatening to burn on the stove, the last thing you have time for is arguing with your old service provider.
“I understand, ma’am, and I apologize for any confusion. I’m taking a look at my records and they’re all showing me that—oh wait a second.”
The young man on the opposite end of the line interrupts his own thought, piquing your concern in the process.
“What did you say your last name is?”
You answer and in an instant, you’re met with a thousand rushed apologies; something about getting the account names mixed up in their system. It’s difficult to decipher everything you hear with the front door being thrust open that very moment.
“Mommy, where are you? We’re home!” Your daughter not so subtly announces her presence from the foyer. She kicks off her shoes, hangs her backpack on the designated wall hook, and then rushes to the kitchen upon catching a brief glimpse of your shirt.
“It’s alright, these mistakes happen.” You hang up the call and turn around to find Jia only steps away, a big goofy grin on her face. Infectious, you break out into a smile yourself and swoop her up.
“Hey honey, I missed you so much!” You kiss the side of your daughter’s head as she wraps her small arms around your neck. “You look so pretty with all these ribbons in your hair! Daddy did a good job, didn’t he?”
Being that you were called into work earlier than usual this morning, Yoongi was the one who got Jia dressed and ready for daycare. You’re delightfully surprised by the results.
“Mmhm,” Jia nods, twirling a couple of strands of hair between her thumb and forefinger. “But Daddy pulls too much!”
“Maybe if someone had listened and stopped fussing when I told her, I wouldn’t have accidentally yanked on her hair when I was reaching for her favorite Hello Kitty scrunchie.” Yoongi joins you both in the kitchen, walking over to press a quick peck on your lips while tenderly caressing the small of your back. The gesture soothes you of your earlier frustrations. “Who was that on the phone? Cable company?”
“Yeah, they canceled the charge. Wrong account.” As you reiterate the entire mix-up, your eyes wander all over your husband. He’s especially handsome tonight, given his perfectly tousled black hair and navy blue blazer flowing over his body. It’s tastefully oversized with a clean, white top paired underneath. You, on the other hand, are sporting a raggedy old t-shirt and stained sweatpants.
There was a time when you used to put a shit ton more effort into your appearance. It was before you got pregnant with Jia, back when you and Yoongi were going out on weekly dates. Neither of you has that kind of time anymore, or energy for that matter. You didn’t believe the other moms when they told you the romance takes a nose dive after you have your first kid. Yet here you are, proven wrong again.
Being parents to a beautiful baby girl is likely the most rewarding feeling in the world for you and Yoongi. You don’t remember the last time the two of you got real quality alone time though. And sex? Well, that hasn’t happened in weeks. The gravity of the situation weighs more on you with each passing day to be honest. Sure, you’re not the same person you used to be eight years ago, but shouldn’t you and Yoongi still make time for at least a little intimacy?
“How was picking up Jia by the way?” You look at Yoongi who merely shrugs nonchalantly in response.
“It was fine. Nothing too out of the ordinary,” Yoong gives you another peck before heading up the stairs to your bedroom. “I’m gonna go get changed. Why don’t you show Mommy the drawing you did Jia?”
“A drawing?” You shift your attention to your daughter whose eyes sparkle like diamonds upon mention. “We should put it up on the fridge then. Let’s take a look hmm?”
“It’s in my backpack! My new friend and I were drawing together. Her name is Mi-Sun.” Jia continues telling you all about her friend Mi-Sun as you make your way to the front door where her backpack hangs. You’re fully engaged until the very end. “Daddy made a new friend too!” she joyously claps her hands together, not realizing the depth of her remark.
“Oh, who’s Daddy’s new friend honey?” You ask, staying as calm as possible.
“Ms. Cho! They were talking for a really long time today.”
Ms. Cho? You think back to all the moms you’ve met at daycare. Somehow you can’t recall ever hearing or meeting a Ms. Cho. She must be a single mom, you deduce. Was she new? What did she look like? And why didn’t Yoongi mention her when you asked?
This has to be nothing but a little small talk, an acquaintance at most. Besides, the moms at Jia’s daycare are quite a chatty bunch and Yoongi wouldn’t dare overstep any boundaries.
“Do you know what they were talking about?” You don’t enjoy asking your child for details about your husband, yet you can’t seem to help it this time.
“I dunno,” she shrugs her shoulders. "Daddy was laughing a lot."
Suddenly, the self-assurance you gave yourself earlier slips away; seemingly useless given the queasy feeling building in the pit of your stomach.
Tumblr media
For the remainder of the night, you purposely dodge every attempt your husband makes to kiss, touch, and hold you. You’ve even begun responding to his questions in one-word answers and at times, with nothing at all.
Yes, you’re being petty; more than usual. The silent treatment frustrates Yoongi to no end and it isn’t very mature of you, but neither is refusing to tell your wife that some single mom was flirting with you in front of your kid! Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration. Maybe it all sums up to a harmless conversation, but it’s not like you know either way with Yoongi being as reserved as he is. It brings you back to your early dating days when he wouldn’t think to tell you about various aspects of his day; who he ate breakfast with that morning or the one classmate of his that wouldn’t leave him alone for two semesters.
Truth be told, you're simply hoping that your husband will bring up the topic first, without having to be the classic nagging wife. You’re a jealous person by nature so it’s not a simple task. Even now as you fold the first batch of laundry on your shared bed, him on the other side doing the same, you struggle to keep from blurting everything out.
“So,” Yoongi fluffs up a clean pillowcase before sliding it onto one of the bed pillows. “How was work?”
What a basic question, you grumble internally. Is that all he’s got? “Was okay,” you reply. “The usual.”
“You must be tired from the day. Did you get to lie down at all?” Yoongi picks up another pillowcase, repeating the process as before. When he glances your way, it’s clear something’s on your mind. You’ve started pairing Jia’s socks far more aggressively than normal and you’re holding back your responses. “Did you hear me, doll? Or am I going deaf here?” The sarcastic chuckle distracts you from your task, forcing your attention.
You’re about to respond when your eyes briefly flicker down to his hands, his left one in particular. Where's his wedding ring? Yoongi always wears it no matter what. The same sick feeling from before returns tenfold. No wonder that Ms. Cho was all over him–she must have thought he was single.
“No, I didn’t get to lie down Yoongi. I worked all day, came home and made dinner, called the cable guy to get that stupid bill figured out, and now I’m doing the second load of laundry. I’m really just not in the mood to chat.” It comes out a blur as you snatch the empty laundry basket and head for your washer and dryer, your eyes welling up with tears.
“__, wait.” Yoongi tosses the last pillow near the headboard and stops you in your tracks, his hand firmly gripping one end of the laundry basket. The intensity of his stare softens as he speaks. “I'm sorry if it seems like I'm forcing you to talk. I know you've been losing a lot of sleep recently between work, Jia, and upkeeping the house. We just don't get a lot of time to see each other anymore and I miss you…I miss talking to you."
With every ounce of self-control remaining, you hold back any tears that risk spilling out. You don't know why you're acting like this, why you're crying over something that seems so small and insignificant to the rest of the world. Yoongi loves you. He's said it a million times and proven it to you over and over again, for eight years now. He wouldn’t cheat on you, yet you still get so worked up about the idea that someone could take him away from you. Someone half your age, more attractive, or hell even the opposite sex if it means fewer dark circles under their eyes.
"Why- why aren't you wearing your ring?" Your naturally confident voice dwindles to the whisper of a mouse. It's completely out of character, nevertheless, here you are.
"I..." Your husband's voice wavers. His gaze flickers to his left hand, where his ring should be, but isn't. "Shit...I took it off in the shower this morning," he confesses, frustrated by his forgetfulness. "I was in such a rush to get Jia to daycare, and me to work, that it completely slipped my mind. I'm sorry—I fully intended to put it back on." He pauses, then perks up. "It's still in the bathroom. I'll be right back, okay?"
You watch as he makes a beeline for the master bathroom, eager to rectify the situation as soon as possible. You should have kept silent what you say next, but you don't.
"No wonder the moms at Jia's daycare were so drawn to you."
"What?" Yoongi stops in his tracks. The dumbfounded expression on his face tells you that you've caught him off guard again.
"Jia told me about someone named Ms. Cho," you reluctantly continue. "The two of you were laughing and talking and–"
"Baby, don't worry about that." Seizing his chance, your husband walks back over to you and sneakily pulls the laundry basket from under your arm. He sets it on the ground after, then reaches to take your hand in his, but stubbornly you cross your arms.
"Her name's Sandra," he starts explaining. "She's a new mom at the daycare and she didn't know anyone, so she started talking to me. I got the sense she was a little overly friendly but it was all small talk, nothing more."
Still largely unsatisfied, you remain unmoved. "If it wasn't a big deal then why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"Because nothing serious happened. The majority of the conversation was her venting about her ex-husband and me wishing you were right there next to me. Please believe me. All I could think about was finally being able to come home to you after a long week with Jia in our arms."
"Really?" Well, now you're feeling guilty for avoiding him in nearly every way tonight. Guilty for believing such wild assumptions that he'd leave you for someone else over one measly conversation. Guilty for letting yourself get so worked up over a situation you, quite frankly, knew few details about.
"I mean it doll." This time, when he reaches out to grasp your wrist, he succeeds. He intertwines his fingers with yours and leads you to the edge of your bed, gently pulling you down to sit on his lap. "Do you really think I could look at anyone else the way I look at you? Or think about you the way I have for the last eight-plus years we've been married and known each other?"
You hesitate your answer, averting his eye contact. "I know but…"
"No, don't finish that. Look at me," he intercepts. "You and our daughter are the only women on my mind–24/7. I can't get either of you out of my head and I don't want to. I'm so sorry I forgot to put my wedding band back on this morning, and again tonight. I feel awful about it and I'll be more careful from now on. And another thing, when Sandra and I were talking I mentioned you multiple times. So, it's clear to her that I'm a happily married man."
The last bit of information manages to perk your ears. "You talked about me?" Your eyes widen as you finally shift your full attention to him. Yoongi eyes widen with you, amused by your sudden change of heart to look at him.
"I said my wife is an amazing mother, works too hard for her own good, and needed to rest today. Give or take a few words."
That's all? You huff to yourself. Would it been nice if your husband also thrown in that you were beautiful or stunning in that mix of compliments? Yes, yes it would have–again, you're pettiness clouds your better judgment. You're not as pissed off as before, but rather semi-irritated.
"Okay…well I guess it's fine then. I'm sorry for being short with you earlier. I shouldn't have made those rash conclusions about the ring and that woman from the daycare. It wasn't reasonable of me." You get up from his lap, yet Yoongi isn't entirely convinced that you're okay.
"There's still something you're not telling me. I can tell."
"No, there's nothing else." You waive him off, placing your hand on your bedroom doorknob "You told her you had a wife so it's fine. I need to switch the second load of laundry.”
"Come on, doll. Let's not leave things unsaid now."
Sighing at his plead, you find yourself giving into all your repressed thoughts and emotions. It swallows you up, like a tidal wave you can't stop. "Look at me Yoon. I'm sweaty, I have dark circles under my eyes, stretch marks, love handles, my hair's a mess, and all I wear are old sweats covered in stains. I'm nothing like I used to be! No wonder we aren't intimate anymore."
Yoongi rises from the bed at once, offended by the sudden digression. "Is that what this is all about? It’s not even about that single mom from daycare is it?" The truth of the matter sinks in as he speaks.
"I guess maybe so…though I'm still annoyed about that too." Great, you're back to square one again.
"Come with me, I need to show you something." Your husband gestures you to follow him, which you slowly concede to.
"What are you doing Yoon?" You both walk into the master bathroom, stopping in front of the large mirror above the sink.
"I'm showing you the woman I'm in love with and have been in love with for nearly eight years now. Sweats and all." Yoongi makes you face the mirror directly, hands around your shoulders. You have trouble stomaching the sight.
"Yoongi please, I can't. The laundry ringing off." You avoid looking into the mirror and make a move to leave the bathroom.
"Just stay with me a minute, please?" Your husband refuses to loosen his hold on you, turning your body so you're looking eye to eye. "No, you're not the same person as you were and neither am I. We're parents to a beautiful daughter now, who we love and adore. We're also overtired 90% of the time, juggling a million things at once. But there's one thing you can count on to always stay the same–my loyalty to you. I'll always be in love with you __, no matter what age you are or however way you look. There's nothing you can do to change that, so why fight it?"
Dammit. A single tear rolls down your cheek as you take in his heart-melting speech. It's not his words alone, it's the sincerity behind them. How he's repeated similar countless times before throughout your entire relationship.
"I love you, Yoon..." you choke out the words, composure fleeting.
"I love you so much, doll." He wipes the wetness of your tear with his thumb. "As far as us not being as intimate anymore, that's my fault. I don't ever want you to feel like I don't desire you every day. Why don't we send the kid to my parents this weekend and let me start making things right hmm?"
"I don't know if we can this weekend. Jia has a playdate on Saturday."
"So, I'll ask Mom to take her. She'll be happy to, trust me. We can finally watch that movie you've been dying to show me since what? December?"
"You're serious?" Your eyes light up at the mention of what is essentially a movie date. The show Yoongi's referring to is one you've been craving to see for months, yet neither of you has found the time to watch. "I've been talking about it for so long, Yoon."
"I know you have, it's why I suggested it. I've been wanting to watch it too with all the trailers you keep sending me. Plus, I'll be able to keep my beautiful wife in my arms for over two hours. That's a lot for us, especially with you being such a busy bee. I can never get you to light in one place! What's up with that, huh?"
Feeling your natural self re-emerging, you throw a playful swat to his arm and scowl at his teasing comment. "You're one to talk! You're basically a workaholic! Besides, you knew who you were marrying when you met me."
Yoongi chuckles and brings both hands to cup your cheeks, squishing them slightly. "A cutie who reads 800-page novels at a basketball game?"
"Stop babying me!" You pull his hands off your cheeks and rub them, trying to regain some composure. "I don't regret my choices, I like books. It's why I'm such a boss at work!"
"Okay, boss," he laughs. "What about what I suggested before then? I can call Mom tomorrow and ask her if she could watch Jia for the day. She'll take her to her playdate, then they can spend the rest of the day together."
It does sound nice, having the whole day with your husband.
"Okay," you agree. "Let's try."
"Good." Yoongi slides his hands down to your hips and pulls you flush against his chest. "How about we seal it with a kiss now?" You nod and he leans his head down, pressing an amazing, tender kiss to your lips. It makes you both giddy on queue.
Tumblr media
"Read one more story, Daddy!" Jia leaps off her small, twin bed and bounds for her bookshelf. She lets out a series of giggles when a large pair of hands catch her, lifting her high into the air.
"I already read you three books kid," Yoongi says, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Bedtime." He then tucks her into her fluffy comforter, plugs in her teddy bear nightlight, and closes her bedroom door.
The next second, Jia comes running out of her room, latching onto his right leg. "I don't wanna go to bed. I wanna play!" Figures she'd be hyper at this hour.
Yoongi sighs and picks her up. "Daddy told you to go to sleep, it's not playtime. You'll have lots of time for that tomorrow when you get to see your friend." He then carries her into her room, yet she fusses in his arms; thumping her tiny fists into his chest.
"No, no, no, Daddy. I want to play!"
Sighing, Yoongi looks at his child with sharp eyes. "Jia–"
"Hey," you interrupt, entering your daughter's bedroom upon hearing the commotion down the hall. "What's going on?"
"Kid doesn't want to go to bed."
You give an empathetic look and saunter over to the pair, gently taking Jia into your arms. Yoongi places his hands on his hips as he watches you reason with your daughter.
"Jia, you know tomorrow's a big day right? You and Sana are going to go to the playground together." The child nods. "You don't want to be tired when you're playing do you?"
"No..." She shakes her head. "I want to be awake!"
"Then you need to listen to Daddy and go to sleep. That way you'll be full of energy tomorrow when you and Sana go on the swings or slide down all the big slides." You smile as Jia starts rubbing her drowsy eyes, yawning in the process.
"But I...okay," she slowly concedes, eyes fluttering shut as she gives into her sleepy state. Unsurprising to you and Yoongi, she was tired all along. But like most kids, hated going to bed.
"See?" You lay Jia in her bed and pull the covers up near her chin, giving her a light kiss on the side of her head. Yoongi bends down and does the same after you. "You just gotta talk to her a little, she'll typically fall asleep on her own."
"But I read her three of her favorite books." Yoongi shuts off the overhead light, along with the door to Jia's room, and follows you to your bedroom.
"That's different Yoon," you argue back. "Books excite her."
"She takes after you that way then." Yoongi pulls his t-shirt off, leaving him bare-chested, and climbs onto his side of the bed. You join him shortly after with your head resting on his chest and an arm thrown around his waist.
"I'm so exhausted," you yawn.
"Go to sleep, baby. I'm right here." Your husband places a hand over your wrapped arm, sending you off into a deep slumber.
Tumblr media
Well this is just ironic. Almost 2 A.M. and you're wide awake.
What initially started as a nice, relaxing dream quickly turned into a terrible nightmare. In the dream, you woke up alone. Yoongi was gone. Jia was gone too. You can't exactly make sense of it, except for a vague memory of Jia calling another woman 'Mom'. You couldn't see her face very well, so it could've been anyone. You couldn't speak either, so even when you tried approaching the three, they couldn't hear you. You've had nightmares plenty of times, but this one is new. It's a clear projection of all the underlying concerns upheaved from earlier; insecurities, abandonment, loss, and it has you unsettled.
You glance over to your husband's side of the bed. He's fast asleep, no longer cuddling you due to you both flip-flopping in your sleep. You decide to slide closer to him, needing to watch him for a while. It might sound weird, but you love watching him sleep. He's so handsome and you feel a great deal of comfort doing so. Maybe if he was awake, you'd tell him about what you dreamt. Then again...maybe not.
"I love you Yoon," you whisper as quietly as you can, tracing his every facial feature with your eyes.
"'m, I love you too."
Is he-was he awake? As if caught red-handed, you quickly flit your face away in favor of the blank ceiling above. You weren't expecting him to answer at all, and in such a hoarse voice too. You're a little turned on by it to be honest.
"Can't sleep?" he speaks up again, eyes still closed.
"No, I''ll be okay though. You can go back to sleep. Don't worry."
He grunts, a tad unhappy with your dismissal of him. "Do you want to talk about it? Your dream?"
You whip your head in his direction. "How–" You pause, seeing his eyes blink open.
"I didn't meet you just yesterday, doll. I know they keep you up. Just know, I'm always here okay? Always." He reaches for you with delicate fingers as he continues. "Now, come here. Seems we got separated in our sleep."
You accept the offer and cuddle into him again. This time your noses nearly touch and his arm wraps around your lower waist. You feel the growing urge to kiss him, wanting to forget your nightmare entirely. But perhaps silly, you ask permission first, seeing as he's close to drifting off again.
"Yoon?"
"Mm."
"Can we kiss?" Your cheeks flush a little at the request. Why are you acting like this? You've been married for years.
"Sure, 'm tired but I could go for a make-out right now." A small smirk graces his lips as he teases you. You give him a classic 'Yoongi!' in reply. "I'm kidding. You don't ever have to ask me that," he finishes.
"Hmm, maybe I don't want a kiss anymore." You feign stubbornness, just to see his response. And a response he gives you, more than you're prepared for.
"You're ridiculous," he grumbles, capturing your lips in one fell swoop. He moves his lips against yours as the hand on your waist grips tighter. The tiniest of moans escapes your lips.
You attempt to break the kiss first, thinking it will only last for a few seconds. Yet Yoongi slips a hand behind your neck to bring you into another kiss. One that's deeper than the last. You feel your breath being taken away little by little, especially when his tongue licks into your mouth. God, you haven't kissed like this in an eternity. A wetness soon gathers between your thighs.
"'m, Yoon," you gasp when his cool fingers sneakily make their way under your shirt, tickling your bare skin. They travel the expanse of your waist, stomach, and up along your back. "So cold."
Yoongi pulls away from the kiss and retracts his fingers. He then lazily moves his body until his chest hovers over your own, rolling you on your back in the process. He's a bit of a blur due to the dimness of the room, yet you can see the whites of his eyes a bit better than before.
"Help me warm them then," he says, folding his hands on top of yours from where they rest on your stomach. "You're really burning up, doll."
His observation is right. Ever since you woke up, you're body's been hotter than normal. The stress is clear and it's only increasing due to the unexpected turn of tonight's events; your husband seemingly wanting to make love to you in the middle of the night.
"So I am," you reply, staring straight into his eyes. "Must be because of all the sudden surprises today. My body's finally responding to it all."
Yoongi nods, following your implication. "Well let's do something to calm it down, shall we?" He waits for your final go before making any abrupt movements.
"But...you haven't seen me–"
"Naked in a while?" he predicts your next words, unfazed. "I've seen it all, each time better than the last because I love you. You're beautiful to me, no matter what. Let me love you __. I've missed you. I've missed us."
"Okay...please," you sigh, desperately needing his touch. "It's been so long since we've been this close."
Neither of you has it in you to delay another second as you dive into another fiery kiss, your hands wandering up and down each other's bodies. You love his hair the most, so you run your fingers through it repeatedly. Your husband's soft grunts remind you that it's as pleasurable for him as it is for you, and as if to counter, he latches his lips to the curve of your neck.
"Yoon," you moan, shivering at the feeling of being peppered in open-mouth kisses. Your eyes automatically roll up as well.
Yoongi nips at your jaw next, featherlike, yet deadly to you nevertheless. He doesn't allow himself to linger more than a second, though, preferring to keep you on your toes. So with careful fingers, he begins lifting the bottom of your shirt.
"Can I?"
You hum in approval and lean forward for him to remove it.
With your nipples now exposed to the brisk air, stiffening due to arousal, Yoongi brings both his hands up to caress your boobs. He's incredibly gentle, telling you how beautiful you are once again until his thumbs start circling your peaked nipples. A rush of sensation shoots up your spine as he rolls them harder, flicking them once in a while.
"Fuck," you swear.
"Feeling good?"
All you do is nod fervently in response, which Yoongi takes as his signal to lower his head to your chest. He squeezes both breasts in his hand before wrapping his mouth around a nipple, licking and sucking relentlessly. He repeats the same to the other.
"Yoongi, I need you. Please." You're core tightens, thighs struggling not to rub together, as you plead with your husband to relieve you. You are so wet and getting wetter.
"I'm here, doll, I got you. Fingers first hm?"
He pushes part of the comforter towards the foot of the bed, then gestures for you to raise your butt. Any shred of mystery of how worked up he's gotten you slip away as he pulls your underwear and pants down your legs. They both get tossed on the floor, per usual.
Bare pussy exposed, Yoongi guides your legs further apart and brings a hand down to your entrance. One of his long, slender fingers traces up your folds so smoothly that you buck your hips upon the touch. He smiles lightly at the subtle response, pleased that you're finally enjoying yourself; too often you put your needs last. His finger slowly sinks into your well-lubricated pussy, velvety walls clenching around it.
"Oh, g-god," you give a shaky moan as his finger pumps and curls in you, stimulating your g-spot. "Need you now, Yoon, so bad."
"Mm not yet, we need to stretch you out. You haven't taken me for a good three or four weeks," he smirks at your eagerness, sliding a second finger next to the first. "This pussy is drenched but not enough. I need you to come. Can you do that for me?"
Fast, quick movements follow suit as your husband works you up to an orgasm. Oh fuck, oh fuck, you chant in near whines. Your pussy is spasming around him, walls tightening with each push and pull. You know when he draws his hand out that it's covered with your come. Messy, sex is messy and both of you are too far gone to care; the pleasure sweeping over you.
Finally, in what feels like an endless tease, you have your first orgasm of the night. You feel your body relaxing into the mattress again, yet your breath remains short. Yoongi, on the other hand, groans seeing your release dripping down your thighs and onto the sheets. For a split second, there's a slight darkening in his eyes while he takes in your post-orgasmic form. The two fingers that had been inside you are sensually brought to his lips, slipping between the seam before being cleaned off.
You're taken aback by the action, though you've witnessed it before. Something about watching your husband willingly follow through with a gesture so lewd makes your head spin–you want him to fuck you right this instant. He must share the same feeling because you don't even need to sound the words due to his hands already making quick work of his pants.
"You drive me mad, you know that? Can never get a break with how sweet you taste. Your lips, your come. All of it makes me go mad." His full length comes in view, hard and tip leaking with pre-cum. You try not to let yourself stare at the thickness but hell, you must've forgotten the extent of your husband's size. You don't remember it being this big before.
"Well," you gulp. "You're not making it easy on me either, looking like this."
Yoongi climbs over to you again, settling into a straddled position, and looks deep into your eyes. "Who's fault do you think that is?"
"It's your fault." You bend your legs and wrap them around his mid-section. You can feel the tip of his cock tease at your entrance. The anticipation is beyond grueling.
"No," he says, aligning himself up to your weeping hole. "it's yours." He then thrusts his hips forward, his length sinking into you so perfectly it has you completely satisfied.
"Y-Yours," you whimper out, unable to form a steady sentence.
"Fine." He picks up his pace. "Let's just agree we both fuck each other up on a daily---ah fuck!" Yoongi growls and gives you a suspicious look when he feels your pussy suddenly clench around his length.
"I didn't do it on purpose this time! You're fucking me too good is all."
"Really? You're not just teasing me?"
Yoongi is slow to believe since you've purposefully clenched countless times before, simply out of playfulness. Tonight is different than those nights though because you're telling the truth–he's truly fucking you so good.
"What the hell," he concedes. "You feel so fucking fantastic, I don't even care." He continues his movements, thrusting into you with deep groans and labored breaths. His fingers grip the mattress harder with the veins in his neck bulging out.
Both your bodies move in sync as the familiar sound of skin slapping on skin echoes off the walls of your bedroom. You do your best to keep your moans low, not wanting to risk waking up your daughter.
"Yoon, fuck! I need to come, it's gonna-fuck-happen soon," you swear, pussy throbbing at the feeling of being so full after weeks of abstinence. You can tell you're reaching your high with the bundle of nerves in your core threatening to snap at any given moment.
Of course, you're wet too, extremely wet.
"I'm. Nearly. There." He barely sounds the words out, jaw clenching. "Just another minute, and we can finish together."
Your eyes, which haven't left his since he entered you, begin to glass over with tears. It's overwhelming; his love for you. No matter the doubts that tell you the opposite, you can't give in to their ugly lies. You'll continue to struggle, naturally, but you won't ever let them win. Yoongi's never once given up on you, and neither should you.
"I love you, Yoon...I love you with all my soul," you choke the words, falling apart all at once. "I'm sorry for today. How jealous and irrational I got."
"Don't apologize, doll. I shouldn't have let it go so far, our lack of intimacy and alone time. I promise we're going to make it all right okay?"
Giving you one last thrust, you both have your release at the same time. Yoongi helps ride your orgasm out by lazily continuing to grind into you. Yeah, you might need to shower and switch out the sheets after tonight, but you don't regret it one bit.
"In all seriousness baby," Yoongi speaks up, guiding your legs back on the soft mattress until you’re comfortable. "Don't feel like you have to apologize for everything. I understand your feelings and where you were coming from. I will say, the silent treatment kills me though. I'd rather you yell at me than not talk to me at all."
"It's not easy for me to raise my voice like that, Yoon." You throw your arms around his neck and sigh softly. "But I can try talking to you more, or at least tell you I need some time to process before I'm ready to have a conversation. I don't know, am I making sense?"
"Plenty of sense. I'll share more about my day with you and who I'm talking to as well. We'll also carve out time to have together. I love our daughter, but I don't see the harm in reaching out to our friends and family to babysit once in a while."
"Well, this sounds good to me," you hum.
"Me too." Yoongi smiles wide and goes in for another warm kiss. Your eyes flutter shut in unison.
This is what love feels like.

Sigma
Tumblr media
I am not biased i swear- BUT LIKE SIGMA IS THE BEST ONE TO SLEEP WITH.
To be completely honest, the first time you two shared a bed he was a bit nervous to do so.
When you first cuddled close to Sigma he felt surprised but his instincts quickly kicked in and he wrapped his arms around you as well.
He felt at ease when you two first embraced each other, he felt safe… he felt at home.
As he is the manager of the sky casino, he tends to stay up really late…up until the early hours of the morning; usually around 3am, you sense someone slowly crawl into bed next to you, carefully slipping under the covers, you feel soft slender hands wrap around your body with a soft tired sigh as he attempts to not wake you up.
On most nights, you’d find yourself entangled in sigmas arms, your leg comfortably laid over his as sigma’s soft unconscious head rests on your chest.
Your body warmth combined with his makes for the perfect cozy blanket to protect yourself from the often cold temperatures of the grand sky casino.
Unfortunately, as much as his hair is long and luscious, it does tend to tickle your face or you accidentally lay on it.
(You once woke up with some of his hair in your mouth-).
So to avoid this issue, he tends to sleep with a bun or just a small braid, for your sake.
“How does my bun look?”
“It looks good! But Sigma, are you sure it doesn’t hurt keeping your hair tied up when you sleep?”
“No not really, plus it’s either this or you accidentally eat my hair while we sleep”
“…Touché-“
Tecchou
Tumblr media
Let me start off by saying- Tecchou is so quiet and still when he sleeps, i kid you not he does not move an inch like- sir are you alive?.
(If you ask him why he’s always so still and quiet, he’ll respond with “Being able to stay still and quiet even during slumber is good for training to stay quiet when enemies attack, keeping inner peace is a maj-“ *Proceeds to rant*).
Tecchou isn’t overly clingy, he wants to respect your boundaries and tends to give you your own space.
But of course, he would never deny you cuddles if you do so kindly ask.
He doesn’t have a preference per say when it comes to cuddling or holding each other; he can be the one cuddling or the one being cuddled, really doesn’t mind either.
Tecchou will softly wrap his toned arms around your body, his hands are rough from all of his sword training and battles but he makes sure to move his hands with a gentle pace as he soothes your back.
If he is big spooning you, he has a habit of nuzzling his face into your shoulder, you can feel his warm and soft breath against your skin.
He also likes to be held by you, he finds peace and warmth in your arms after a long stressful day at work.
Surprisingly he doesn’t snore at all, his breaths are always soft and quiet.
Every night before bed, Tecchou drinks this sort of strong tea that he mixes with some spices, every night is a new mix.
(May god forbid he offers you some-)
“Tecchou…uhm, why are you drinking green tea mixed with coffee…”
“It helps build a stronger immune system.”
“Oh…interesting..-“
“Would you like to try some?”
“No thank you.”
Nikolai
Tumblr media
Sleeping with Nikolai is Definitely an-…Experience-
I kid you not don’t even be surprised if you wake up on the floor with NIkolai spread out like a starfish on the bed, snoring like a jolly green giant as a snot bubble grows and shrinks as he drools.
Definitely starts random pillow fights in the middle of the night.
All jokes aside, Nikolai is definitely big on cuddles, he mostly big spoons but enjoys being the little spoon as well.
A cuddling position he really enjoys is when you lay on top of him like a weighted blanket as he sleeps comfortably.
Nikolai just likes being able to hold you or be held by you, he doesn’t mind as long as you two are close.
When he’s unable to sleep, he tends to play with your hair and sometimes makes little braids and such.
He radiates heat like a dang heater…like- your body gets so warm to the point it sometimes gets uncomfortable.
It doesn’t help that he sleeps with many covers and blankets.
If you try to move away, Nikolai will whine and pout like a 5 year old.
“Nikolai, IT IS TOO DARN HOT FOR YOU TO BE CUDDLING ME LIKE THIS- PLUS THESE DUMBASS BLANKETS YOU GOT FROM COSTCO”
“THEY WERE BUY 2 GET 1 FREE! NOW QUIT MOVING AND LET ME CUDDLE YOU! I WONT LET SOME HEAT STOP US! THIS IS FOR FREEDOM! FREEDOM!”
“Im gonna get a heat stroke.”
“How about you stroke this d-“ *Gets hit with a pillow*
Ranpo
Tumblr media
Sleeping with Ranpo can really go two ways, “Messy/ takes up the whole bed” or “Peaceful cuddle session”.
For example; on some nights, it starts off with you two peacefully holding eachother.
Yet by the next morning, your head would be half off the bed as Ranpo’s head rests on his own pillow, his leg would be over your stomach as loud snores fill the room.
All the pillows, except for Ranpo’s, are on the floor while the covers half cover your sleeping body and favor Ranpo’s.
(He will literally fight you for the blankets- definitely bit you once).
But on some nights (usually nights where Ranpo solved a case), it can be more peaceful and loving.
Ranpo curls up in a small ball as you two lay in bed, he clings on to your side like a small Koala.
You play with his hair as he starts to drift off to sleep, you softly praise him for his hard work that day and how good of a job he did.
He falls asleep with a small smile decorating his face.
If you bring up his clinginess the next morning he will act so offended and say it’s absurd and just deny deny deny.
“You looked so adorable clinging on to me as you fell asleep last night, Ranpo…”
“HUH?!- I WOULD NEVER THATS-“
“Don’t deny it Ranpo…we both know it happened”
“PFFT- Of course not, why would I, the world’s greatest detective cling on to someone as lowly as you”
“…You’re sleeping on the couch tonight.“

Could you do one with any bots of your choosing with a human (doesn't need to be s/o) who typically takes the role of mentor/parental figure for people around them? (Not sure I worded this right, if not, sorry)
(P.s You're awesome, make sure to take care of yourself and have a good day) :)
I did this so the reader is kinda trying to take care of the bots like a parent or something, but it doesn’t really end up like that. Platonic, and I just did two bots since I wanna go to sleep. Also thank you very much and you take care of yourself too :D
~Arcee~
•Arcee is very protective of others but I wouldn’t really call her motherly or anything like that
•She doesn’t really have that vibe in my opinion, maybe more like an aunt that could use an equivalent of a glass of wine, like all the time
•But you trying to make sure she’s okay and kinda taking a parental role with her, doesn’t really sit right with her
•She’s very independent so she doesn’t like being told what to do, unless it’s in regards to missions or something official
•You’re of course not going to force it on her, but you just tend to be like that, taking care of everyone
•Arcee appreciates it when it comes to the trouble trio, but she would prefer to be the one looking after you, since he feels responsible and you’re her friend
•You still do it though, asking her if she’s rested and consumed some energon  and making sure she remembers to take it easy sometimes
~Bumblebee~
•Bee is much more like the big brother type rather to the trouble trio, but since you’re older than him in human years he’s more like a younger brother to you
•You’re always looking after him, and keeping an eye on him so he doesn’t do anything reckless
•It’s sometimes things like “Remember to keep your habsuite tidy” and “You seem tired, you should recharge”
•Bee appreciates it, but like the teenager he is, he can get a bit whiny about it sometimes
•And of course Miko and Raf have taught him the whole “Whatever mom/dad” thing
•Bee is protective of his friends and teammates and you naturally belong in that group
•You’re more like mentally protective if that makes sense, since you know you couldn’t really protect him in a physical fight
•You want him to feel well and be healthy and happy

Can I say this?-okay-
I FREAKING LOVE YOUR TRANSFORMATIONS OF CHARACTERS TURNING INTO WEREWOLVES,DEMON LIKE DRAGONS, GASTER BLASTERS- and ETC!!!
You are very talented but I got a question to ask cause I’m working on a sketch of a transformation of my oc turning into like a dragon and I sometimes messes up on the sketch so have you even like sketch your favorite character or a new human oc or oc turning into a dragon?
Thanks and have a great day/night!
(Sorry if I was rambling- and I sorta of had this in my mind for awhile and I didn’t had the guts to ask cause of how shy I am-and sorry again if this sorta of sounds cringe or bad-I just woke up-)
So sorry for the delay with my response! I planned on answering rather quickly but my college schedule didn’t allow it, haha- I appreciate the compliment! And I’m glad you enjoy my content! : D
Assuming you mean to ask how I like to start sketching out my transformation pieces- Theres a couple main things to keep in mind:
Try to figure out what form you’d like to have your character go to first! Before I ever drew any Demon! Luca transformation art, I designed his full demon form and experimented with partial forms!
You’ll often notice with my transformation art that I tend to default to a certain partial form. When you do this, the most you need to worry about getting across is the emotion! I tend to go for fear and pain, but there’s a lot of different options!
Don’t be worried about things not making sense anatomy-wise! Transformations aren’t always pretty or predictable, so awkward middle stages sometimes have the best effect on the piece. “Ugly” mid-transformation characters are oftentimes the most beautiful in this type of art!
Furthermore, with anatomy, I like to figure out where the common points are between human and animal anatomy. The feet is where these kinds of studies are most important in my opinion, as it’s where some of the more drastic and difficult to understand changes take place.
Feel free to let me know if parts of this don’t make sense- I’ll gladly illustrate what I’m talking about in a separate post!
As a final thing, I’ll show the general process I go through while sketching out my transformation artwork:
First, I start with general guidelines. I use a circle for the head, crossed lines to indicate facial feature placement. I use a line to map out the curvature of the back, and I use a box to map out the chest. You want it to taper a bit towards the bottom to show the end of the rib cage. A horizontal line represents the hips, then I use circles for joints and lines for the limbs themselves. Arms are mapped out the same way.
Tumblr media
Next, I start putting in the major details. This involves actually drawing out all the limbs in full, sketching where the hair is going to be, mapping the facial expression, etc. With the face, I put the nose where the lines intersect, put the eyes along the horizontal line, and put the mouth in the center of the vertical line, under the nose.
Tumblr media
Finally, I add the rest of the details. This is ultimately just refining the sketch to make it nice and readable. I usually erase my guidelines and initial sketch work here so none of that interrupts the details of the final piece.
Tumblr media
Hopefully this helps you a bit! It all comes down to a lot of practice and experimentation to really figure out what works and what doesn’t, but you’ll definitely get there! I always recommend studying art from your favorite artists and seeing what you can incorporate into your own style! I’ve definitely got inspirations of my own that have really built up my style to this date ^^

6 for Nathan, Danny and Christopher. 13 and 19 for Christopher. 8 and 21 for Nathan. 47 and 50 for Danny.
Sorry if it's a lot! ( ;;ㅅ;;)
Don't apologize, thank you for all the questions! :D (using a read more again for obvious reasons because I RAMBLE)
If they were badly injured, and for whatever reason couldn't go to a hospital, who would they go to for help?
Nathan: Nathan is actually more likely to go to a friend than his parents in this case. Honestly, he’d probably go to Christopher. Despite whatever complicated feelings he might have, he sees Christopher as reliable/good with crises.
Danny: This question really depends on who’s closest at the moment lol. Obviously if they were in the human encampment, they’d go to Maria or Ryan (probably Ryan, for reasons explained later). The thing about Danny is she’s kind of prideful and doesn’t like to admit weakness, so going to anyone is going to be a bit of a struggle for her, unless of course it’s a really bad injury. In that case, if she wasn’t in the human encampment, she’d go to Nathan or Christopher, whichever was closer. She’d feel better about going to Nathan, though, if only because if there’s anyone she hates admitting weakness to, it’s Christopher.
Christopher: This one is especially interesting because, similar to Danny, he doesn’t like admitting weakness or relying on others. However, he also won’t pass up an opportunity when he sees one. He’d go to Nathan.
Do they enjoy poetry?
Christopher: A little! It’s not his favorite, but there are a few good ones out there he can appreciate. He tends to like poetry more if it’s musical, i.e. song lyrics. He has a hard time just reading it and making it make sense in his head, because he’s not a super abstract thinker so he can get caught up on the meaning.
How easy is it to become their friend?
Christopher: He has a lot of walls up naturally - he doesn’t like to get attached or close to people (because when he does, he goes all in and the idea of losing people scares him.) But I feel like there’s some sort of saying about “the more protections you have, the more vulnerable you are” because secretly, he’s really desperate for close relationships. If you show him even a hint of interest, he’s going to do two things. 1) He’s probably going to try pushing you away somehow, at first. Or be a bit of a dick, because, you know, self-fulfilling prophecy and all that. But if you’re still around after that, 2) He’s going to latch onto you like no tomorrow, whether he realizes it or not. And like I said before, there’s two ways to get into his heart very easily - compliment him, or compliment his cooking.
Oh, but if you’re asking how easy it is to deal with his “putting up walls and maybe being a jerk to drive people away” thing, before you get to that point? Hah. Good luck.
Do they collect anything? If so what and why?
Nathan: Oh! He used to play the guitar in high school, though he hasn’t picked it up much since. It’s sitting in the corner of his room collecting dust now. But, he got really into collecting different guitar picks, and has a pretty sizable collection of them in a box somewhere. Even though he doesn’t play as often, he likes to look for unique ones, or ones that serve as mementos of certain occasions or places.
What is more important to them, friends or family?
Nathan: This question is really hard for him to answer, because family is important to him. Or he wants it to be, anyways. He tries to find comfort in the security that a family brings. But his relationship with his parents, while not terrible, is very...surface-level, at times. He knows one of them (potentially both) consume humans, and he’s too scared to bring that up, so it kind of just...hangs in the air between them all the time. (There’s more, but I won’t get too far into that just yet I don’t think.) At the end of the day, he would choose his friends over his family. But I think when he gets a family of his own one day, he would prioritize it above all else. Did I mention he was a Cancer?
Would they lie to get someone else out of trouble, even if they would have to take that someone else's place?
Danny: They would, without a doubt. Danny has kind of an “act first, think later” mentality most of the time, especially in more urgent situations. She also has a really strong moral code. Even if it’s someone she doesn’t like, if she thinks that the punishment they would receive is too much, she’d lie for them, almost instinctually. She would rather take it on herself than see someone suffer unjustly, even for someone like Max (or Christopher).
What is your favorite thing about them?
Danny: I LOVE writing Danny’s dialogue sometimes. It gives me an excuse to come up with creative insults, although considering IRL I’m like, the meekest person you’d ever meet, it can be a challenge sometimes lol. But character-wise, I love the way she doesn’t take shit from anybody. And that, mixed with her “act first, think later” mentality can make for some fun interactions that most humans and giants don’t share.

Cull to Adventure, Chapter 14, Draft 1
Marie awoke to the sound of Sheldon squealing indignantly just outside the shack.
“That’s a top-of-the line splatting machine. You can’t just fill it with paint!”
“I-I thought… I thought we said i-it was just a bucket.”
“That doesn’t mean—”
“All right, all right,” Marie said, stepping out, “Remember, we’re on the same side here.”
All eyes were on her, but being an idol, it didn’t faze her at all.
“So, anyway, why were you putting paint in a Slosher?” she asked, turning to Cull. “Even if it was just a bucket, it’d be… well, weird.”
He stammered, trying to get the words out, but eventually just pointed at the door behind her. She turned around and was greeted with an abstract pattern, still glistening in the midday sun. It was all crude but deliberate angles, making Marie imagine what it would look like if Spyke ever tended to a garden. The pinkish purple hue was a bit odd, but it did contrast pretty well against the wood, she supposed.
“Looks nice,” she remarked, “But, uh, why’d you need a whole bucket of paint? You could’ve just used your ink, y’know.”
“W-wouldn’t’ve lasted,” Cull said, simply. He walked over to the side where a pink-spattered chunk of cardboard was meticulously cut into a stencil, showing it to her.
“Not much,” Cull admitted, “But it l-lets me do it quick.”
“Well then,” Marie sighed, looking in awe. The amount of detail Cull was able to cram into some carvings was remarkable, especially as most of the scrap cardboard had evidently survive the paint job.
“I know it’s not my proudest work,” Cull said, managing a small smile. “I like to think I do okay… It did help, thanks.”
“Marie, I must remind you, he was using my prototype for this! Who knows what kind of damage could have been done? The side-siphons could’ve been clogged—”
“Ah, right,” Marie nodded, giving Cull a look of disapproval. “Make sure to use an actual bucket next time, Agent 4.”
Cull’s face went as pink as his tentacles.
“S-sorry, guys…”
As Sheldon grumbled back to base with the Slosher in hand, Marie took another look at her door.
“As nice as this is,” she asked, “why’d you paint it here? You have all kinds of walls and structures around here.”
Cull shook his head.
“There’s already art there.”
Marie was about to ask, but this was a rare time where Cull looked like he was in his element. He was standing up straighter, for one, and he was more readily making eye contact.
“I couldn’t just cover someone else’s art! I’m not the Mallard!”
He spat that last word with more contempt than Marie thought he could have, though that was a low bar.
“Sorry, not really in the graffiti scene,” she admitted. “Didn’t know that was a hot button topic.”
“It’s all right, j-just…”
Cull sighed.
“I d-dunno, a lot of artists do it, but it doesn’t seem right to me, y’know?”
“I mean, I guess that makes sense…”
Cull shook his head.
“Ugh, sorry, I should be going to get more Zapfish. Sorry b-bout the door…”
“No, it’s fine,” Marie said, but Agent 4 was already off to Beaker’s Depot once more. “We can talk later, if you want.”
For now, though, she had to get ready to be his eye in the artificial sky. It was going to be a bit later, too; she’d have to do quite a bit of smooth talking with Sheldon if Agent 4 was going to get any other weapons for testing.
***
At the very least, Sheldon let him have the Splattershot for this one. Cull was worried he wouldn’t be getting anything for this, and his Agent career was over without him knowing. He just hoped if that happened, they would tell him at least.
No time to dwell on that, though. He had to get to the Zapfish through a no-doubt grueling gauntlet. Giving himself a moment to survey his surroundings, the Octarians replicated a nice, clean island resort. The fake sun was beating down, sparkling over the clear blue water and even bleaching the colors off the stickers applied around the docks.
More powerful than the “sunlight”, though, was the music pumping everywhere. With the calm before the mission, he allowed himself to hear just how upbeat this song was. It almost made him want to jump around like no one was watching, especially as those strange, clearly not Octo vocals came on.
As he rode a rail forward, trying to contain the energy bubbling beneath, he saw that much of the floor was being replaced with inflatable rafts. Mounting panic welled within as his newfound energy was mixed with worry if they would even hold his weight. It was too late, though; he was propelling towards a drop straight onto some. He screamed as the Ride Rail ran out, and he could only hope there was solid ground under those things…
It didn’t matter. The rubber flung Cull back into the air. All inhibitions were lost, and he found himself laughing. Laughing loudly. He felt like a little squidlet again as he flipped and spun, still moving forward, but having few cares outside of getting some air and listening to that singing and those beats…
“Hey, Agent 4?” Marie came on, after the tell-tale shuffling of hastily-donned headphones. “That looks… fun and all, but don’t forget, this is Octoslob territory! Don’t let yourself get distracted!”
“Heh, uh, r-right…”
“And careful with that Splattershot!” Sheldon chimed in. “You don’t wanna lose that in enemy territory, I can tell you that!”
“Y-yeah…”
As strong as his grip was, Cull couldn’t help but think of that time his weapon was shot out of his hand. His mood was dampened a little, though something about this place was just keeping his spirit from being crushed.
“Surprised a pretty barren place like this got you so hyped,” Marie remarked. “You really like trampolines, huh?”
Cull honestly didn’t have a good answer. He never found them as exciting as climbing scaffolding or jumping rooftops for his next art installation, but something about these Bounce Pads was making him giddy. Maybe it was the music to go along with it, but he found himself having to concentrate on the Zapfish, and trying not to anger Sheldon any more than he probably was.
“I’ll have to get my hands on one of these Bounce Pads!” Sheldon remarked, chipperly. “…For research purposes, of course.”
Cull was surprised at how chipper Sheldon was. Whatever Marie said to him, it must have worked wonders, because he didn’t sound upset or anything. Maybe he was just hiding it out of pity or something.
He had a hard time dwelling on that, though, because even the Octotroopers up ahead were smiling, bouncing along, and laughing along to the music, even as they were shooting at him. It almost felt like a game, like those Turf Wars he sometimes saw. Well, for once, he was feeling game, so he pressed on, making sure to dodge the moving walls they set up for security or just as a fun obstacle course.
***
As the music faded in the tunnel below him, Cull felt his usual worry return, gradually evicting the bubbly fun he had just felt. He wasn’t sure why; he had just had a good time, bouncing around to the beat and laughing along with the enemies. Somehow, his mood seemed to be tied to the atmosphere of that place more than was normal.
Still, he wasn’t as bad as he felt when he went in, so he just shook his head and clambered back up out the Kettle. He was greeted by the wide-eyed grin of Sheldon, who was holding a massive Splatling gun in a way that was almost comical given his size. Well, it would have been comical, if the six huge barrels weren’t pointing directly at Agent 4’s head.
“L-look, I’m sorry about the Slosher, b-but please… I-I’ll make it up to you…!”
He squeezed his eyes shut, awaiting the gunfire that never came.
“Oh, that?” Sheldon blinked. “Don’t worry about it. I’ve already had ideas to make all Ammo Knights ink weapons easier to clean, and am working on special squid-safe washing tools to do so! I have to thank you for bringing this potential customer issue to my attention, really.”
As Cull opened his eyes, he saw that no one was even holding the gun. Sheldon was just leaning against it. Finally feeling like he could breathe again, he let the Zapfish outside and made his own way out.
“Of course,” Sheldon continued, “I don’t have those products ready yet, so I thought for one of the other Kettles I looked into, you could use a weapon that’s always been sturdier! Besides, being able to launch ink at a more intense frequency should help you out in that area…”
“Hold up,” Marie said, startling both of them. “You okay, Agent 4? You went from laughing like crazy to looking like you’ve seen a ghost crab.”
“Uh, y-yeah, just glad you could help me smooth things over…”
“What?” Marie asked, before shaking her head. “Oh, that? I was joking; when I got to him he was already excited to show you his next weapon.”
“…E-eely?”
She nodded, and he sighed.
“I… I dunno, I j-just figured—”
“C’mon, kid, you might’ve made a mistake there, but Sheldon doesn’t bite! Worst he’ll do is send you a bill. Doesn’t sound like he needed to, though.”
Marie had to admit, it was odd that Agent 4’s reaction was to assume that Sheldon was going to exact revenge over a tech-laden pail, but the poor squid was sensitive enough. Maybe she could ask later, but now was not the time to pry.
Cull, in an attempt to distract himself from his embarrassment, looked down at the Splatling left for him. It looked heavy, with plenty of room for whatever mechanisms allowed for the fire rate he saw on TV. He braced himself, taking a deep breath before trying to lift it. He grunted, stumbling back as he tried to find his balance again. Adjusting to the weight was quicker than he thought, though, and he was soon holding it comfortably against his side, with one hand on the big cylinder and another gripped tightly on the handle.
“Whoa!” Marie exclaimed, rushing forward. “Watch where you hold that!”
***
After a thankfully brief lesson on how to handle a Splatling gun, Cull trundled over to the Kettle that Sheldon had recommended. Apparently, it was some kind of advanced shooting range…?
Looking in, he had to admit the galaxy theme they had going on was fun. Reminded him of an arcade he once tagged. He could see Octarians firing at spinning targets, while various platforms jumped out like drawers in response. Among them was an absurdly tall Octotrooper with some kind of scope, holding a straw in its mouth.
“Octosnipers,” Marie said automatically. “Careful with those sightlines.”
“Snipers?” Cull echoed, ducking into his ink. “Would’ve th-thought they’d be Octoblowgunners or Octodrinkers or s-something with that.”
He chuckled despite himself, but quickly kept it down, realizing he didn’t know the range of that guy.
“No,” Marie said, casually as ever, “if you see those, it’s already too late. If you think vampire squids are bad, well, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Cull started, taking a glance around himself before sighing.
“V-very funny…”
Well, staying here wasn’t going to do anything, so he pressed forward, keeping an eye on the sniper as he did so. As he emerged from the ink, satisfied that his foe couldn’t see him, he decided to test fire the Splatling.
Well, it was just like Marie had suggested. It took a second to rev up, with only a click and slight vibration indicating that it was ready to release the barrage. All he would have to do is dodge and release.
Well, dodging might prove difficult than anticipated. With this thing wobbling and shaking, it was all he could do to waddle from side to side as he was still revved up, and even as he fired. Only when the hefty thing wound down could he move around like he was used to.
“Ugh… Y-you sure Sheldon had no hard feelings?”
“It may be an acquired taste,” Sheldon admitted over the line, “but, come on, the firepower’s amazing! It should splat anything you focus the ink on within a second, especially with the newer Rev-Pump technology, allowing for—”
“R-right, sorry. I’ll do m-my best, then.”
He made it ahead, and despite his slower movement costing him his armor, he could still splat the Octosniper faster than he could yelp in pain. Maybe he could get the hang of this, after all.
And then he saw the series of moving platforms before him. He’d have to shoot those targets and climb up with this thing? Agent 4 groaned, preparing himself for it as he looked at the targets. At least those wouldn’t be a problem to aim at, being stationary and all. A test fire confirmed it; they spun, effortlessly pushing some platforms out like drawers in an immense cabinet.
Of course, there was still plenty in his current barrage left to paint one of the drawers, but he wasn’t sure about squidforming up. Could he do it in time? But, then again, clambering up while lugging a huge gun wasn’t too appealing either. While it wasn’t as heavy as expected, it was still a bulky Splatling.
As such, he just watched as the platforms slowly slid back into the walls. Yeah, with his weak swimming skills, there was no way he could have made it up in time. Maybe he could have slung a hand out again, but that was going to be unreliable. Maybe he could have, but…
“You all right, Agent 4?”
He sighed in response, making the target spin again. This time he kept it spinning, making sure the platforms were out as far as they would go. He had to admit, the quiet whirring was nice alongside that entrancing song that was playing here.
Once he was sure it was out all the way, he approached the platform, thinking about how he could do this. Maybe he could clamber up with this, but it was a tall and steep surface, clearly polished woodwork. There wasn’t any place to get a good purchase, though there was that ink path he had already made…
Gritting his beak, he jumped up, letting his left hand submerge while his feet pressed against the wall. He was able to drag himself up slightly faster than his hampered swimming would have allowed, but looking up at the receding platform, he still wouldn’t make it in time. He’d barely miss and have to do all this over again.
So he was going to remain an embarrassment, huh? He knew Sheldon and Marie were keeping tabs on him, but who else? There had to be Octarians looking at their own cameras, too, after all…
He slid back down, slowly. In just a few moments, it would be too late to climb the rest of the way up. He could feel his cheeks burning again, imagining the Octos jeering at him. And maybe Sheldon or Marie patronizing him.
No! He just saw a way; he could salvage this climb, and his dignity.
With a final grunt, he heaved the Splatling above him, and it just landed on the lip of the platform. The grip caught, and Cull grabbed the barrels with both hands.
“Please be more careful with my wares!” Sheldon protested. “I work hard on ‘em!”
“Sorry,” Cull grunted, trying to position himself.
Despite the loose spin, he was able to kick his feet against the wall and make it to solid ground again. He made a mad dash for stable ground, panting.
As he set the Splatling back down to catch his breath, he took a look at it. The worst that happened was the grip and a bit of the cylinder had some shallow scratches, as far as he could tell, but he was sure that Sheldon would find more damage. He just hoped he could still fight if he had to.
With this in mind, he looked around for some kind of camera. Seeing a security camera pointed right at him from a nearby floating signpost, he lifted the Splatling up to it.
“S-so sorry about that. I see some scratches and I hope I didn’t d-damage it too much. Does… does it look okay to you…?”
“I mean, it seems okay from this angle. Though, I’d have to open the casing to make sure, and perform some controlled tests with my proprietary systems…”
“But we can take care of that once you get back,” Marie interjected. “I don’t think Sheldon’s stuff is that brittle.”
“I’ll have you know I only use the finest Sardinium for my weapons. They’ll last for decades of continuous use, if taken care of properly, of course, and could withstand the worst—”
“So, yeah, you’re good, Agent 4. Just don’t drop it into a crusher or something.”
“I-I’ll try not to.”
Luckily, there wasn’t anything like a crusher throughout. There were other platforms Agent 4 had to hit switches to draw out, but he was ready for them this time. There were, however, also Ink Sprinkers, which Cull was amazed even he could dispatch of effortlessly.
However, there was also a large cylinder on wheeled stilts. It rained pink ink like a garden hose, and its headlight-like eyes focused on Cull whenever it could.
“Ah, Flooders,” Marie said. “Agent 3 had a lot of issues with those, so be careful, okay?”
Cull gulped, watching as the mechanical monster loomed over him, eyes pointing a laser right at his chest. Thankfully, the thing was restricted to one particular floorspace; Cull got some comfort from the idea of the Flooder chasing him and just tipping over comically.
Still, if his better struggled to defend themselves against these Flooders, what chance did he have?
Nervously, he watched the Flooder as it seemed to lose interest and roll elsewhere. That was weird; he would have thought a horrifying splatter like that would have kept continued focus on him. At least now he could stay out of its sight; he just had to wait until that tracking laser was facing away, hopefully when that Flooder moved to that far pillar…
Now!
He hopped on, ready to make a dash, but a sharp stinging in his feet stopped him. Lifting his feet to proceed was like moving through molasses, and he realized he forgot to check the ground. The Flooder had done a thorough job of painting the whole thing pink, and he could see that laser pointing at him again.
Trying to think of what to do, he clumsily backpedaled, hopping against all odds he could rev up his Splatling in time. Wow, those spindly stilts and tiny wheels were fast!
The freakish bot approached, but Cull’s gun was revved up. Maybe if he aimed for those eyes, he could blind it and escape that way. At the very least, a brief distraction to paint an escape for himself.
No such luck. The last thing Cull saw before he was splatted were ink droplets sliding harmlessly off the glass lenses, which never stopped gazing at Agent 4.
“Yeah,” Marie said, once Cull made it back to the mini respawner, “you gotta focus on the turf with those guys.”
“R-right,” Cull said, slowly walking back to that area, “but where t-to from there? I didn’t see anything ahead, either…”
“Hang on, I’ll go check.”
Cull heard Marie remove her headset and start murmuring with Sheldon. While it was true that he didn’t see where that platform was supposed to lead, he’d have to admit that being alone for a second gave a sense of relief. He thought it was a good idea, but he was feeling pretty stupid now for that plan. What would blinding have done when the thing was barreling towards him, anyway?
He instinctively tried to tuck his tentacles out of sight, just under what was left of his bangs. Some things never changed, apparently.
“Oh!” Sheldon exclaimed, nearly causing Cull to jump off the ledge he was clambering onto. “Looks like there’s a Gapplink there! Kinda out of the way, but just keep an eye out and you should get it! If you need me to try to help point it out…”
“Nnn…” Cull began, clambering onto the ledge. “Er… I-I might need it…”
There was the sound of a headset shuffling off a desk and being lifted back onto a head.
“Not sure you’ll need it,” Marie said, “but it’ll be there.”
Cull cringed, but finished his walk over to that Flooder. This time, he didn’t hop on, but instead opened fire on the ground, painting it the lovely tint of green he could survive in.
As he fired, though, he heard a ding! and saw that laser turn to focus on the drops he was firing. Well, there went half his work in one mindless automated moment. He sighed, but at least he had a better idea of how to deal with this.
A couple of Splat Bombs later, and he could at least walk around that platform for a few moments before he was doused again. He only started looking around for a second before his eyes squinted, bright colored lights rapidly flashing against them. He peeked through his fingers, and, yup, there was the Grapplink, shining like a rainbow disco ball. While he wondered how he missed it before, it was a little upsetting to see he missed it so badly that they had to hack to make its lights blinding.
In any case, now that he was more aware of how these things worked, the other Flooders he came across were a little easier to manage. He was even able to climb his way onto the top of their heads, and use them as unreliable cars towards his destination. Even the occasional Octosniper or Octocopter didn’t stop him from reaching the Zapfish.
The next one wasn’t too difficult, but it was tiring for Cull to chase all those Tentakooks down. Their incessant laughing and taunting didn’t help any, though at least they didn’t know how to aim the Splat Bombs they dropped.
Still, all that excess running around after just switching from a Splatling was taking its toll on Agent 4. He flopped onto the floor the moment he emerged from the kettle, not even bothering to change out of his squidform. The Zapfish looked at him for a moment, then swam over to Marie.
“Need a sec?” she asked, cradling the Zapfish under one arm.
Cull nodded, a slow feat in squid form.
“All right, I’ll get us some lunch and we can relax for a bit. Anything you want? A pizza, maybe?”
“D-dunno… could go for a burger, I guess, if that’s okay.”
Marie was silent for a moment, looking aside.
“…Sure, I’ll get one for you.”
“Is… is s-something wrong with—”
“No, no,” Marie said, a little too quickly. “Just… just thought of something.”
She smiled, though her eyes did not join her lips in it.
“Aaaanyway,” she started, “Thinking of any kind of burger?”
***
When Marie came back, Cull was sitting at the ledge, feet dangling over, head bobbing to the distant beats echoing from a nearby Kettle. He looked at the nearby stickers thoughtfully, wondering how the Octarians ever found time to make them. Even if they were basic ones made for graffiti signatures, he didn’t take them for the artistic types at all.
Then again, maybe they didn’t think of him as the artistic type, either. The Octarian Army and the New Squidbeak Splatoon were focused on fighting each other, after all.
He smelled the food before Marie could say anything, his stomach rumbling. These turf wars and Zapfish rescues worked up more of an appetite than his climbing and sneaking ever did.
“Sometimes I worry about you, kid,” Marie admitted, sitting down next to him. “You’re workin’ yourself to the… well, we don’t have bones, but you get what I mean.”
“P-please don’t. I’m… I t-think I’m getting a bit decent, sorta.”
“Well, yeah, but even the best need to take a break every so often. You don’t have to strain yourself to prove yourself, if that’s what you’re doing.”
“W-what makes you think that’s it?” Cull demanded. “I just want… wanna get this done, all right? I wanna help Flow and find M-Miffens, and I wanna save Inkopolis an-and…”
He sighed.
“I-I dunno… Just… I should get back to it.”
“No, you can finish your lunch,” Marie said, gently pushing Cull back down. “Believe me, you should not be doing this kind of stuff on an empty stomach. Did you even eat today?”
Cull was silent, but his failure to give eye contact gave her the answer she expected.
“Come on, Agent 4! We need you in top shape if you’re going to continue saving Inkopolis!”
“B-but it’s already been a few days… i-isn’t time of the essence?”
Marie opened her mouth to say something, but could not keep eye contact with Cull. The kid had a point, and for more reasons than he realized.
“…Yeah, I guess it is. But ten minutes won’t—”
Too late. Cull was already up again, leaving behind a half-eaten burger. He shuffled slowly up to the Kettle and prepared to leap, only to stumble and fall onto it. His legs still felt like jelly, and his stomach still cramped.
Marie dropped her parasol and rushed over, fully prepared to pull Agent 4 back to safety. She kneeled to take a look at him. He was panting and grimacing, but he was still conscious.
“Ugh.. maybe you’re right…”
“It’s… a tricky situation,” Marie admitted. “You’re right; we gotta hurry and get our Zapfish back, and we don’t know how far that bloated Octoslob is in his plans.”
She sighed, standing up to get Cull’s food and drink for him.
“But I’m not letting you kill yourself for this mission. I like ya, kid, and I don’t need to lose anyone else.”
“W-what?” Cull asked, eyes widening. “H-how many Agen—”
“No, no,” Marie said, stifling a laugh. “You’re the first one I recruited. I just… lost touch with someone close to me, is all.”
“O-oh… I’m sorry…”
“Nah, nothing you did,” Marie said, sadly. “…But enough about me. Let’s get you someplace to refresh yourself, huh?”
Cull nodded, accepting Marie’s extended hand and righting himself.
“M-maybe a few minutes…”
Half an hour later, Cull had finished the most recent doodles on his tattoo. They weren’t the best, given his lack of paint and utensils, but even with just his now-blue ink and his finger, he was able to get some striking curves in sharp angles, making patterns that were, well, good enough. The crab on his hand had all kinds of patterns on it, looking like it was covered in starry scales.
“Thanks,” he said, finally feeling normal again. “S-should be good to go now, I think…”
“Hold on a sec,” Marie said, pulling her phone out. “That’s pretty good. Can I share it with some peeps I know before it fades?”
“I’d…. rather you didn’t,” he said, awkwardly pulling his hand out of view.
“Eh, alright,” she shrugged, putting the phone away. “But you’re gonna have to show me what you can do on a good day if that’s something you don’t want shared!”
“You… you think so?”
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I? Those are pretty good, and you should take pride in ‘em!”
Cull smiled slightly, before looking back at the Launchpad back to Beaker’s Depot. It was time to get back to work.

i noticed cad bane is listed as your s/i's bio brother, is your sw s/i a duros then? do you have posts about them :0
yes they’re also a duros!!!! I’ve made a couple posts about them, linked below!! (and also this gives me an excuse to ramble a bit more so thank u sgjskg <3)
OKAY so their design is going through some changes but I haven’t quite finished it yet, so here are some very old doodles of them!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
their hair is a little shorter now and I’m changing up their outfit quite a bit, but the hair/skin/eye colors are pretty much the same!!
here are a bunch of posts about them and my various f/os! (Rex is the only romantic one, the rest are platonic!!) also remember to read the tags cause they’re definitely part of the s/i Experience sgjskj
their backstory is still in the works tbh, I have a LOT of ideas but I’m still figuring out how to fit them into the story (making s/is is like doing a puzzle for me, it’s super fun!! :D) like they’re definitely a bounty hunter duo w Cad (they’re very infamous and informally called the Bane Brothers) and also force sensitive cause it’s my s/i and I can do what I want, but ALSO they never become a jedi and kind of learn how to use and feel the force in their own way
other tidbits I have that I’m still figuring out, is Ris and Bane are actually half siblings, Ris’s father was a human jedi who never fully cared for them and eventually left them and their mom on the streets to go back to the jedi order. another one is that Ris actually eventually becomes one of the bounty hunters that trains clones on Kamino, and that’s sort of where they get their ‘redemption’ started. they’re also somewhat tied up w both yoda and palpatine (or mostly obi-wan and maul), who are aware of them and understand that they could be an asset to the respective light/dark sides, and Ris has to struggle w that (and a big part of their development is using the force at all, because they’ve been taken advantage of for their abilities before) but ends up staying in the middle, using both light and dark!! and at the end of the clone wars they‘re present at the s.iege of m.andalore w Rex, Ahsoka, and Maul as well
SO yeah a lot of cool individual stuff that I‘m still working on fitting into the timeline sgjkdg, but they’re still one of my favorite and most developed s/is and I love them a lot!! I hope you like them too! :]

Scenario: What do you do for the team and what do they do for you? :D
Warnings: not proofread, fluffy, might have some swear words, platonic relationships
Characters: Zhongli, Diluc, Kaeya, Albedo, Tartaglia, Kazuha, Xiao, Tohma, reader as the team manager
Other works in the Volleyball Team AU Series: Click Here
Genshin Volleyball Team manager
It’s just fuckin’ chaos
On your first day you’re already bombarded with questions by Tartaglia and Kaeya
“So which class are you?” “What’s your height?” “Are you single?”
Captain Zhongli just cannot be bothered to reign them in anymore.
So Vice Captain Diluc does it and grabs their collars. “You idiots, you’re scaring her off!”
Possibly Kazuha and Tohma are the ones you really try to rely on, on your first few weeks.
So how do you gain the trust of your team? Let’s start with each player shall we?
#1 Zhongli (Captain/Wing Spiker/Ace)
Zhongli is just handsome and mature. He’s strict and needs to be the pillar of the team.
You’re intimidated by him the first few weeks and he just seems...a little far. He’s always so focused that you can’t seem to catch a moment to just chat with him.
There’s a day where you notice that his form is a little off, you suspect that he hurt his wrist a little.
You fidget uncomfortably in the gym as they practice, but finally turn to the coach “U-Umm... The captain is... I mean! I’m not sure, but... I think he needs to take a rest,”
The coach calls for someone to substitute Zhongli and suddenly asks you to check on him.
“Huh?! Me?!” the coach pushes you towards him, and Zhongli is just looking at you quizzically, you can practically see the question mark on his face.
“C-Captain, d-do you need some bandages on your wrist?”
Zhongli is taken aback, but silently puts his right wrist out for you to wrap.
Only when you’re done tending to it does he look you in the eye and ask.
“How did you know?”
“...Because I always watch, and all I can do is watch. If I can’t even spot that out then I’m not a very good manager am I?”
Zhongli has a newfound respect for you. He thought you were just a meek and shy thing sitting around and passing them balls but he feels his heart swell that someone like you is seriously watching over them.
#2 Diluc (Vice Captain/Wing Spiker/Defense Specialist)
Diluc is probably the second hardest to get along with or break the ice with.
But he gradually warms up to you when he notices that he’s always the first one you pass a towel and water bottle to.
You’re not doing that on purpose, it’s just him who always comes up first.
After a few days he deliberately goes to you faster cause he always wants to be the one to receive a water bottle and towel from you first. Secretly a puppy.
The moment he realized that you were reliable was when you stayed behind to help him practice when everyone else went home already.
You didn’t let up in your constant praise of “nice receive”, “great spike!” and “that’s so cool!”
He thinks he saw stars in your eyes at some point.
“Hey, Diluc, it’s getting late, let’s leave some energy for tomorrow, yeah?” he could tell from your mannerisms that you were tired too, but you tried not to let it show on your face and still cleaned up with him.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then!” you wave but you’re stopped by a quick. “No,” from him. You tilt your head in wonder and he just looks at you as if it’s the most normal thing in the world.
“It’s late, I’ll walk you home,”
#3 Kaeya (Middle Blocker)
You don’t have to impress this guy, anyone of the female gender impresses him.
lol jk
safe to say it’s not difficult to befriend Kaeya, just bring him a cheering squad and some food.
all jokes aside the way to this guy’s heart is through his stomach.
He’s not a particularly hungry person but there’s this one time he forgot to bring lunch. He was running late, or something of that sort, honestly not something new for him.
He ALSO didn’t bring money so he couldn’t eat food from the cafeteria.
Ask his friends for money you say? Tartaglia would go, “Haha no way!” Albedo would go, “Let this be a lesson for you,” his brother would go “Serves you right,”
By club time he’s famished and dramatic. “Guys, go on without me, this is as far as I go,” as he sprawls on the gym floor.
You ask if he’s okay and he doesn’t answer so Diluc is the one that answers for him. “He forgot his lunch, as always,”
You make a sound of understanding and the next thing you know you’re taking out a lunch box and Kaeya has lifted his head up, sensing food.
“I packed onigiri for everyone today, actually... In case someone was hungry. It’s not much but--”
Kaeya comes alive from the dead and clutches your hands to his chest. “Manager you really are an angel,”
Diluc jump kicks him away from you.
#4 Albedo (Setter)
You also don’t know how to approach this guy
He always looks mad or stoic or something. Like he’s always thinking about something.
He low key actually is always thinking about play strategies and how to set the ball better for his teammates.
You really do think he works so hard while the game is going on, so you decide to help him out a little bit.
You watch a few more of their games and somehow come up with a list of what kinds of sets are better for each different spiker in the team.
There’s surprise in his eyes when you pass the document to him and modestly exclaim “...but, it might not be accurate, since I’m not that experienced,”
He still nods and says “...It’s the thought that counts,”
When he does read your report and try the techniques out he notices that it does hold some merit in it
Is amazed like how Zhongli is amazed. He thought you were just there to hand them bottles and cheer for them but he had never been so wrong as to what a manager’s role is.
Will trust you enough to ask you about his set performance.
Will sometimes slam Kaeya with an insult. “Kaeya, your spike sense is horrid, Y/N can read the moves better than you,”
#5 Tartaglia (Middle Blocker/Wing Spiker)
It’s not that he has a hard time trusting people but let’s just say he has the tendency to make you feel like he likes you but then he actually does that to everyone.
For example: He’ll throw compliments like “Oh that’s amazing Y/N!” but then back in the classroom you’ll hear him say “Oh that’s amazing!” to, like, every other person.
That kinda disappoints you cause then the comment doesn’t really hold that much meaning to it if he keeps on saying it to others too.
He encounters a crisis mid year because this guy is just... he struggles with his grades.
Captain Zhongli has told him he can’t play volleyball if he fails even one subject.
This boy is panicking and has semi-accepted this is the end of his volleyball career.
So you offer to study with him and he’s legit stoked.
Intensive and strict study sessions commence. Note taking, pop quizzes, surprise questions and even sudden random calls from you wherein you ask him a question and he has to answer within 5 seconds.
You’ve pulled all the study techniques you know here, this man better pass everything.
Welp, he still fails History....but since he worked so hard Captain Zhongli excuses it.
He’s so happy that he can’t hold back the stupidly wide smile on his face. He turns to you and for the very very first time in months, he bows and THANKS you.
You realize that he’s never thanked you before. Not even when you pass him water bottles or towels.
You consider it a win, getting rare and sincere appreciation from him.
#6 Kazuha (Decoy/Middle Blocker/Wing Spiker)
One of the easiest to get along with but at the same time, he’s so mature that you feel like you’re not even in the same age range as him.
Definitely someone you can count on though, so you ask him many questions on the first week.
Still, it’s one of those things where you can kind of talk to him but there’s still a wall between you two.
One day while walking around in school there were these boys who were commenting about his height, and questioning his abilities as a volleyball team member.
You didn’t really think much about it when you speak up, “But he’s a really good middle blocker and spiker,”
Those boys look at you weirdly and you realize that you’ve unconsciously spoken up. So you hurriedly walk away.
Little did you know that Kazuha was in some secret corner and heard the whole thing.
Just like that, the next day, it seems as if the wall between you two was gone, and you’re able to talk freely.
That, and he seemed to like asking you to help him practice his spikes and throw balls for him now.
#7 Xiao (Libero)
is deceivingly easy to get along with. Just has a rough exterior but is actually a softie if you squint.
You know this because there are subtle things he does.
He doesn’t speak to you much but then he would be the one picking up the balls with you, or sometimes there’s magically a new set of clean towels on the bench that you don’t remember taking out from the storage room.
This guy is passionate for the game, so he really beats himself up when he isn’t able to receive a ball during actual games.
You worry about his mentality sometimes. I mean, it’s a team game, it’s not like he alone can save the whole game
So you talk to him about it the other day
“You’re already a really good libero Xiao, I mean... I’m not saying you should stop practicing but you don’t have to feel so bad...” you pause because this doesn’t feel like the message you want to convey
“Sorry, what I mean is... You CAN feel bad, but share the burden with your team, you know?”
He knows what you’re saying and contemplates it for a while. He knows that his team has his back, but sometimes just needs reminder about it.
He looks at you and asks, “...Can I share the burden with you too?”
You blink “Huh?”
“You said I can share the burden with my team, but can I share it with you too?”
There is a blush on his cheeks at this point.
“Oh, yea! Of course! I don’t play but I’m still part of the team you know!”
Ever since then, during games, if he feels a little frustrated he’d glance at you on the bench and you’d give him a thumbs up for a job well done.
#8 Tohma (Pinch Server/Middle Blocker)
You’re like bffs the moment you see each other
lol jk
You’re still awkward with him the first few days cause that’s just how first meetings are.
But he is very easy to talk to and always makes you feel at ease
Will always be the one to ask how you are if you need any help or if class was okay in general
Seems like the type of person to care more about others than himself
So he’s surprised when you come into the gym and you beat him to asking his usual questions.
“Tohma, how are you today? Did you have a proper lunch?”
“Tohma, are you getting tired? Want some water?”
“Tohma, how was class today?”
All the other members of the team turn to look at the two of you, thinking ‘Why does Tohma get extra attention?’
Tohma certainly doesn’t get extra attention you just TALK to him more. The other members deadass are also getting cared for by you, just in different ways.
This boy has some insecurities though, when it comes to playing the game. He hasn’t been in it for long so he’s the least experienced and that gets to him sometimes.
“Oh, really? But you play really well! I couldn’t tell that you’re new”
His serves are really amazing though.
“Also! You always score points for us with the serves. Sometimes, your serves are my favourite part of the game!”
Has practiced extra hard so as not to let you down.

Albedo. I just rolled him and finished his quest.
I would love to talk about travelling with him, or at least being someone who brings in the ingredients for alchemy. Someone who goes out of their way for him and gets the best. Maybe the only gardener in Mondstadt to grow alchemical roots and grasses.
I'm happy for you, rolling the cute alchemy boyo ywy I only rolled in his banner to get Bennett in five rolls I'm sorry Albedo, my primogems are for Xiao and Hu Tao- *shot*
Back to business! I really, really like this cute idea awww thank you for distracting from the angst fics in my head haha (TUMBLR DIDN’T SAVE IT PROPERLY AND SO THE POST IS HORRIBLY SHORT WAIT- FIXED IT WOOHOO)
Albedo's Personal Botanist
Tumblr media
Background
Most ingredients in alchemy usually come from ores and liquid ingredients formed by chemistry methods. Stuff like Tuttia, Bismuth, all that shindigs-
So while plant life can be useful for alchemy, not everyone recognizes its utility straight away, and provide for the common plants for arrangements rather than scientific inventory
I can imagine that you'd be a normal gardener at first but very passionate of their properties.
Might be a Dendro vision wielder too, the Dendro archon loves those who wield the power of knowledge, more so when they use it on nature.
You carry with you a lil book about all the plants and shrubs that you've personally cared for, down to their finest detail and properties. But you're a gardener, not a master of Alchemy, so some parts of the notes you couldn't really figure out yourself.
The first time you met Albedo, he was around a year into staying in Mondstadt. He was forced to go out and take a breather because of his workaholic schedule, and instead of relaxing in a bath, he ended up drifting to the market area to get more ingredients local to Mond.
Unlike the other flower stalls, he was pulled into yours because of the wide variety of your wares. Roots, grasses, shoots, plants you couldn't just find outside of the walls.
You were tending to your mini greenhouse in the back and left your botania book on the shelf outside, and this LIL SHI- Albedo, having no proper training for social interactions, straight up just opened that shit and read it all.
"Oh, hello there, mister- HEY, THAT'S MY STUFF, WHAT THE HECK"
Flustered, confused and alarmed, Albedo tried his best to quickly reason with your garden-spade-wielding self. And with his pretty boy self, you managed to calm down and listen.
You may or may not had smacked him with a bouquet of horsetail for good measure.
"Such vast knowledge and detail orientation, why waste away your talents in selling productive fauna when you can wield them into something more?"
Master Phytologist of the Knights of Favonius acquired!
Working with Albedo!
Your greenhouse in the Knight of Favonius HQ is most definitely connected to Albedo's laboratory! And very spacious too.
More than one occasion, you've seen the Chief Alchemist casually sneaking around the area, plucking a Flaming Flower or scraping dandelion seeds from the pot while you were busy tending to other flowers on the other side of your area.
65% of the time you caught him red-handed and you will be met with the rare sight of a fumbling, queasy Albedo.
30% of the time you just find out something is missing after checking inventory for the day, usually ends up with you hunting and shouting for Albedo. Because the guy seem to have a sixth sense as to when you find out his thieving adventures.
5% of all of that, Kaeya would be the one stealing from your 'safer' floras to woo a random citizen in Mond. And as a master of botany, your precious babies are always in tip top shape. Top quality bouquets all day, all night.
Those moments are the ones Albedo hate more than getting smacked with your spade. Those are your flowers, and by association, his. Grown to their maximum potential by your calloused yet gentle hands FOR HIM-
Kaeya: *reaching out to pluck a perfectly healthy glaze lily*; Albedo: *his short ass of a shadow looming over him*
NOW IT IS HIM WHO WIELDS THE POWER OF THE GARDEN SPADE
The atmosphere of your work area is significantly different from his own messy laboratory. The glass walls and roof that lets in just the right amount of sunlight, with a perfect view of the scenic landscape of Mondstadt and beyond.
When Albedo reaches a wall on his research, he picks up his sketchbook and just- waltz in to your workshop through the door connecting your workspaces.
The fresh air, the soft kiss of the sun, your humming, it was all a symphony of heaven concocted just for him.
He’ll find himself sketching your babies, dozen or more times you are included.
Your notebook’s illustrations are mostly courtesy of him, and he greatly basks in your pure admiration of his drawing.
To help him focus, you once took on the great task of organizing his laboratory, to no avail. Even if you manage to fix and align his inventory, it’s gonna go back to chaos after three days minimum.
It’s okay tho, it’s normal for him, more excuse to visit you-
Guilty, he wants your spacious and refreshing greenhouse and often asks for a redesign of his laboratory to share similar workspace with you.
Acting Grand Master Jean had to decline this idea just because it costs more than a million mora.
He’s definitely gonna sulk in your greenhouse after that, back leaning on the warm glass wall as he does nothing but sketch you and your plants the whole day.
Don’t stop him
Just admire the pout
Actually Working with Albedo! (Finally)
Whenever Albedo discovers/explores a new area, you’re always sure to tag along whether willingly or by force
YOU BET YOUR FROZEN ASS YOU’RE COMING WITH HIM TO DRAGONSPINE
DEFINITELY BY FORCE
I imagine that despite being his assistant/student, Sucrose and Timaeus are more focused on research and the application of Alchemy, so they’re not much of the resource gathering type. That said, Albedo is very thankful of your existence, it’s a breather to his already full schedule.
Albedo is both considerate and inconsiderate unconsciously : While he may run off to experiment on the traveler and leave you scouting the area yourself, he doesn’t willingly set you on fire from the inside.
Every time he comes back to camp after finishing the step by step experiment with/on the Traveler, he makes sure to check up on how you are doing.
TAKE NOTE: Our prince is very occupied and busy with his own work a lot, so he’s never really seen you in action when you go out to get the the materials he needs-
So he is purely horrified when he saw you hanging off the cliff with nothing but a rope around you to keep you safe, carefully investigating a petrified tree branch up close.
Suddenly, elevator.
Again, Imma bet, he’s gonna be accompanying you in all your expeditions after that. He’ll need to know where and how you acquire every ingredient outside of your greenhouse.
Does it require you to climb a mountain? Are there any Hilichurl camps nearby? Maybe mobs that are attracted to that type of flower?
He would be very attentive of your inventory reports and would recognize if a dangerous gathering journey is near. He’ll be right there with you.
Violetgrass x1000
He’s gathering more than a month’s worth just to make sure you don’t go back to make that dangerous trip. It’s very impractical, but let him rest his heart.
You and Albedo: Resource Gathering Expedition; Other Knights: Outdoor Dates Disguised as Work-Related Outings
Flower crowns are good and all but have you heard of flower bracelets?
Omg so cute hhh imagine a Flaming Flower Stamen bracelet for his Dragonspine expedition- it’s not gonna last forever but it’s so precious he’s definitely keeping that shit even when the heat already dissipated from it gah-
“Paimon wonders, what’s that thing around your wrist?”
“A flame bracelet, made to keep the cold away.”
“Woah! Sounds very useful! Sure would be handy for exploring, you think we can borrow it-”
“No.”
Something angst-y: Albedo has yet to make a Dendro affinity potion and he’s really, really devastated about it and himself. You’ll have to forcibly pull him out of his self-deprecation, force him to get a breather.
Overall, Albedo greatly appreciates not only your utility but also your consistent company. He values your tenacity and comfort, sharing unadulterated curiousity as you both venture the great unknown. There’s a lot of stuff he can pray about to thank whichever archon has graced you. And despite his Vision lacking the function to actually help in the advancement of his research, he is now thankful for it, for he has found with it a greater purpose: Ensuring the safety of his precious Gardenia.
Tumblr media
I CANT BELIEVE IT, THIS THING WAS 30 TIMES LONGER BUT TUMBLR DIDN’T SAVE THE DRAFT PROPERLY AND HAD TO GET EVERYTHING BACK THROUGH MEMORY, AND MY MEMORY IS B A D. I’M SORRY I KNOW YOU JUST WANTED TO TALK BUT IT ENDED UP BEING SUPER LONG AND LOOKS LIKE A HEADCANON THAN ANYTHING, MY FORMATTING IS REALLY LIKE THIS AAAAAAAA- I hope you enjoy ywy I like your brain, it brings good ideas and gives me good ideas too!

Serenade (Daniela Dimitrescu/Reader) Pt. 7
Fandom: Resident Evil: Village Rating: T for language Warnings: None? I think? Please let me know if I missed something Notes: This is incredibly dialogue heavy, and I actually don't feel as confident about this chapter as some of the past ones? Hopefully y'all like it, I mean at least the ending is cute (or cheesy, depending on who you ask). PS: Not sure how many chapters there will be in total, other than at least 3 more (one of which ill, in fact, get a little h*rny again. actually, h*rnier). Past Chapters: Pt. 1: Nocturne, Pt. 2: Overture, Pt. 3: Accelerando, Pt. 4: Toccata, Pt. 5: Poco a Poco, Pt. 6: Elegy
Chapter 7: Harmony
“We need to talk, yeah?” Daniela asked, nearly stuttering, a sort of nervous that you had never seen her exhibit before. The first thing you think is that she’s really, really cute when she doesn’t know what to do. After that you actually process what she said. Relief floods your chest, followed by warmth, and you make a mental note to thank Bela the next time you see her. In the meantime, you were unable to contain your happiness. Out of instinct you move closer to Daniela, smiling softly, quietly reaching one of your hands towards hers. There’s no hesitance in her response. Instead of taking your hand she pulls you in for a hug, opting to rest her chin against your shoulder. Admittedly you’re a little surprised, but you return the motion nonetheless. “Oh, little songbird…”
Heart racing, you softly press against Daniela, turning your head so that you could place a single, brief kiss against her exposed collarbone. For a moment the two of you just stay like that, holding each other close. When you pull away, remembering that you still hadn’t said anything, you find that Daniela is blushing from the neck up. In turn, the sight makes you blush. You can’t help but reach out and run your fingers through her hair. Though you can’t see yourself, you know your eyes are filled with affection.
“I love when you look at me like this,” Daniela whispered, not entirely meaning to voice her thoughts. Then you’re blushing harder, smile small but sweet. “Mmm, you’re just darling, aren’t you?”
“Not nearly as much as yourself, my Lady. To be in your company is to be the luckiest soul in the world. I cannot even begin to describe the feelings of which you inspire in me,” you replied, trying not to stumble over your words, barely able to process any thoughts other than ‘pretty lady likes me ahh’. Thankfully, you still remembered a few tricks from language arts class. Who knew studying the classics could make you more romantic? At least one English teacher, probably. “I’ll have plenty of time to try, though… after we talk about things, that is. Is there somewhere private we can talk? I’m not terribly eager for your mother to overhear.”
“Are you sure we can’t talk about how much you like me for a while longer?” Daniela asked, faking a pout. When you perk a brow at her antics, she shifts a little, forcing herself to be a little more serious (at least for the time being). “If you insist, my sweet thing. I’d suggest my room-” she winks at you- “but I doubt we’d stay talking for long, would we? Maybe the library? Neither of my sisters tend to go there around this time of day, and I can hardly remember the last time mother went there.”
“Well, no one from the day shift is scheduled to organize things until later this week, so… sounds like a date to me,” you chimed, enjoying the way that Daniela’s face lit up in response. “There’s just one thing I have to take care of first. Wouldn’t want my roommates to think something has happened to me, now would we?” With that said you linked your arm with your partner’s, setting off towards the servants quarters.
—————————————–
“Oh thank goodness, we were starting to get worried!” Daphne exclaimed as you quietly ducked into your room. For a second you freeze in place, hoping to whatever higher powers may be that she hadn’t seen Daniela behind you. Certainly the vampire would have moved out of sight?... Despite your assumption, you do see Daphne hesitate for a moment, gazing at the now closed door. Thinking quickly, you give a little wave to draw her attention elsewhere. Seemingly it works like a charm, with her attention returning to you, and so you release an internal sigh of relief. Now you just had to think of an excuse for why you’d be staying up late.
“It’s fine- I’m fine, really. Just had to carry something for one of the Ladies,” you lied, trying not to be specific enough to possibly contradict facts you weren’t aware of. “I, uh, kinda have to go back out, though? There are some piano books I need to find before tomorrow morning. I’ve already found a few, but apparently there’s at least one that goes over some technical practice songs, and I think D-” you almost wince, but lean into it, stuttering instead- “th-think that Lady Daniela would enjoy the variety. Not sure how long it’ll take me to find the books, so don’t stay up waiting for me. I promise I’ll still get enough sleep to function tomorrow.”
“So the lessons haven’t been canceled? That’s good to hear,” Daphne said, nodding slowly. The words catch you off guard, and you tilt your head to the side in confusion. Noticing your expression, your roommate is quick to explain. “After whatever happened yesterday… we weren’t sure if we’d ever hear you play again. Not that we know what happened, just that Lady Daniela was, well, upset, and you stopped playing sooner than usual. But I suppose if the lessons were canceled completely… I doubt Lady Dimitrescu would let you go that easily, huh?”
Again, you shift awkwardly, wondering how Daniela must feel hearing all of this. But just like that Daphne shakes her head, clearing her thoughts, and gives a little shrug.
“Don’t stay up too late, okay? I know you already promised, but we both know you’ll lose track of time if you aren’t careful. If you aren’t in bed by the time the sun reaches its peak, I swear we are gonna have words!” Both of you laugh before Daphne waves you off with a smile. Still, you wait to open the door until she (and the other maidens) has her back to you. Better safe than sorry, right?
—————————————–
Somehow the room felt different in a million ways, now that you were here with Daniela. There was something about the way she moved, freely, eyes and fingers running down the spines of familiar books. Even if you had not seen it before, it felt like the library was overflowing with magic. What I would give, you think, to see the whole world tinted in shades of her. Again you find yourself blushing as you followed Daniela towards a small sitting area. One of the chairs is practically a recliner, with plenty of space, and you realize what she has planned mere moments before she acts.
Next thing you know, you’re being pulled closer to her, practically lifted into the air. Then you’re falling back, right on top of a giggling Daniela. By the time you’ve regained your senses, you’re in her lap, held just tight enough to keep you from getting up. She’s watching your face closely, smirking with pure satisfaction.
“Are we going to be able to talk like this?” You asked, a little unsure yourself, already distracted by the soft curve of her jawline. Even as you speak you’re eying her, imagining what it would feel like to trail kisses along her skin until she was restless… Thankfully she responds before your mind gets too carried away.
“Of course we are, little songbird. Probably. If you behave,” Daniela teased, gently playing with your hair as she did. You can’t help but laugh when she suggests that you are the one who needs to control yourself. “Alright, alright, I get your point. I just… I think that it’s easier for me to, fuck, I don’t know. Relax? It’s easier for me to relax like this, holding you, getting to kiss that lovely neck of yours-” she pauses to demonstrate- “and that means I won’t freak out like last time. Or so goes my thought process, anyway.”
“In that case…” You’re sitting perpendicular to her now, still holding on tight. One hand cups her cheek, gently caressing the skin, before you lean in for a kiss. The two of you enjoy yourselves for a minute, glad to have this time together, more glad to be reassured of each other’s affection. To think that you wouldn’t even be able to meet her gaze if not for Bela’s intervention… Eventually you pull back, knowing that you did need to talk. “I care about you, firefly, and I want things between us to be real, and healthy, but I…”
The words died in your throat, a lump you couldn’t quite swallow, when memories sprung up like weeds in your brain. Communication mattered to you for a thousand reasons, and you weren’t blind to the irony of one of those reasons making you freeze up.
“I haven’t… done this before, not for real,” Daniela replied, mistaking your paues for uncertainty. “Apparently being an immortal, blood-drinking princess is only attractive in the realm of fiction. Maidens only ever seemed interested in a fleeting rush, or a fraction of a chance at an escape. They didn’t care for romance.” Now her tone gets bitter, and her eyebrows furrow. You can see her shoulders tense up, raising a little, making you try to snap out of your own thoughts for a few moments. By the time she speaks again, you’ve started to gently rub her back. “Maybe I should have paid more attention to my novels. How often does the monster actually get a happy ending?” She says the words with a hollow laugh. Still, she’s relaxed a little under your touch, even leaning into it.
“You’ve… done some bad things. Hurt a lot of people, and I can’t pretend that doesn’t scare me,” you started to say, ignoring the heartache you feel when you see Daniela’s hurt expression. “But you’re more than that. You’re soft, cute, and mischievous. More than that… I can tell that you want something beautiful. We can have that, we can make that, for ourselves, with our own hands and our own desires. But we can’t use stories as a blueprint. We can’t rely on what we’ve read, not when everything the two of us do is brand new. Not when-” you close your eyes, fighting back tears, glimpsing fragments of your last relationship- “not when I’ve already been hurt by my own misconceptions. The things we read aren’t always real, or right, or anything like what we need. What we deserve.”
“Something tells me you’re holding back a little,” Daniela murmured, barely able to get the words out. It almost looks like she’s close to crying, but her cheeks are dry, and her voice is steady. “But you’re right. What we have is better than anyone could write, anyway. You’re my little songbird, and I’m not letting you go anytime soon. Even if I have to figure out this whole ‘communication’ thing. I suppose that means I should… come clean. About a few things.” There’s a clear hesitance to her voice, like she’s embarrassed, and she’s speaking slower than usual. A blush rises to her cheeks before she takes a deep breath.
“We don’t have to talk about everything right now, if you aren’t ready. We’ve already made good progress, I think, even if half of it might be because of your sisters. Well, sister, singular. Cassandra throwing me into that wall really didn’t help anyone. Except maybe the chiropractor I will inevitably need to see,” you joked, remembering your earlier conversation with Bela.
“Hold up for a fucking second, Cassandra did what? I’m going to replace all her paint brushes with stained carpet strips, and that’s if she apologizes. Nobody fucks with my baby,” Daniela snapped, expression as serious as can be. Normally you found her anger to be terrifying. Now that she was directing it at someone else? And on your behalf?... Maybe it was a tiny bit cute. Which you tried to show, by gently bringing her in for another kiss. Of course, Daniela isn’t quite as gentle, instead kissing you hard, holding you as closely as she can. There’s a bit of possessiveness in her grip, and it makes you tense up. But as soon as you do she’s pulling back, breathing hard, eyes weighed down with concern.
“Y’know, I think she was just mad that I made you cry. And if I found out someone made you cry, I would be pretty angry. Not that I’d throw someone, partially because I don’t think I could, but still. It’s… almost cute how much your sisters care about you. Almost, just not quite,” you said, eager to draw the attention away from your reaction. Like you had told Daniela, it was okay if you weren’t ready to talk about everything. “Speaking of that, I can’t believe I haven’t apologized yet. I panicked so much, I didn’t even realize I was yelling until you picked me up. No matter how frustrated I was, I shouldn’t have-”
“Don’t, please,” Daniela interrupted, eyes closing for a moment. “I can’t believe you’re apologizing. I pinned you to the wall, and not for the usual reason!” There’s a bit of panic in her expression, and you get the feeling that she’s beating herself up inside about it. Which, based on what you had thought about what you had done, was understandable.
“Consider this: We both fucked up, and we’ve both acknowledged it now, so we could just… not talk about our regrets? At least for now,” you countered, glad to see Daniela relax and nod in response. Leaning in, you shift to rest your head against her shoulder, wanting to enjoy her proximity more. “Hey… if I’m your songbird, and you’re my firefly… are we, I don’t know… officially a couple now?”
“I was under the impression that we already were,” Daniela said, clearly a little confused. While you technically agreed with her… there was another part of you that wanted to have a little fun.
“You never asked, and I know I never did either, so…” Now you’re looking up at her, smile wide, heart beating faster than normal. “Lady Daniela, firefly of house Dimitrescu, lover of romance novels, player of pianos, keeper of my heart… Will you do me the honor of allowing me to court you? To be yours, officially, in the pursuit of affection and happiness like the village- nay, the world- has never before seen? Will you be my girlfriend?”
“How’s this for an answer, songbird?” Daniela cooed. Then she was lifting your chin from her shoulder, turning her head and bringing you closer. Your lips touch, as gentle as can be. It’s a short kiss, but one radiating with love, that ends with your foreheads pressed against each other. In this moment, you feel like you could stay in her arms for the rest of eternity. “Yes. Absolutely yes, obviously, a thousand times. I could never say no to you, especially not now, with your eyes so desperate for the sight of me, and your lips so begging to be kissed. Now, how about we celebrate, hmm?”
Just as Daphne had predicted, you end up staying awake far too late, but you were all the happier for it.

I have such conflicting feelings about the code words for the WS because on one hand I like anything that helps to support the argument that Bucky isn't to blame for anything that he did as the WS, but on the other I felt like they were very plot device-y, weren't used to their full potential, and, honestly, shouldn't even be necessary. The codewords were literally just used by the writers to justify having a "WS rampage" moment in CACW and to give a reason why Bucky would have given Zemo the information about the Siberia base and why he needed to be frozen at the end of the movie, once they fulfilled that use, they instantly removed them from the picture, not even showing us the how of how the code words were removed, was it a brain surgery, was it psychotherapies?
In a better world where people were less ableist, the codewords wouldn't have been needed for people to understand that Bucky was a victim without any control over his actions. I think back to when I first watched CAWS, before we knew that the codewords were a thing, and I thought it was pretty clear just from the bank scene that Bucky was a victim, but maybe that's just me?
I also feel like there's some ableism baked into the whole codewords thing towards dissociative disorders (maybe this is bc I've read a lot of Bucky fics that discuss dissociation as a part of the WS that are really good). Idk sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I just wish that this--like most parts of his storyline--were better written.
Thanks for the ask!
Make no mistake, the code words - like many parts of CACW - were definitely a plot device, and not there to help people understand Bucky had no control. It was the easiest "switch" for Zemo to gain control of Bucky and direct him to do his bidding. Bucky's rampage was necessary to set off the airport fight, because - this line seems to get overlooked a bit - Tony insinuates that he killed people in that rampage, which was why the Avengers were called upon to bring him in.
I...really cannot think of a real life equivalent for the code words, and the amount of reading required to confirm this is too much because reliable evidence on hypnotherapy is so scarce D= The whole activation sequence and Bucky's "consciousness" disappearing comes across like a hypnosis to me.
But my other thought is that the Winter Soldier seems fairly capable of making quick (straightforward/concrete) decisions about fighting, and combined with what Seb says about Bucky "being in a trance-like state", I wonder if it's almost like a sleepwalking/parasomnia situation. Interestingly, one of the theories about parasomnias is the inappropriate disinhibition of the basal ganglia during (non-REM) sleep.
I can't recall the exact line Melina says about the Winter Soldier program, but it was definitely the basal ganglia that she experimented on to get the pigs to obey her commands. TBH I don't think the scriptwriter was aiming for this - basal ganglia does a lot of stuff with motor control that's unrelated to sleep.
Can you induce a parasomnia state? Yes, zopiclone was notorious for doing this when it first came out, and some other toxins can do it too. I have not heard of hypnosis doing it, but...hey, this is Hydra.
I know this is getting long already, but I thought it's useful to talk over the components of consent:
- You have to have available all the relevant information about the risks/benefits, potential outcomes, and any other major concerns that might influence your choice - You have to have understood the information - You have to be able to synthesise the information and form a judgement that takes into account the possible outcomes - Finally there's a component about communicating the decision which doesn't apply here.
In Bucky's case - he definitely does not get given the full picture when he goes on missions, especially when you consider that they wipe his memory to take away his knowledge of the situation. It's also doubtful whether he would be able to understand complex contextual and abstract information, or form a judgement based on that (I tend to lean no).
So regardless of whether Bucky is in a dissociative, hypnotic or parasomniac state, he still did not consent to participate in killing his targets, and he should not be held responsible.

He knows the complications are endless and at times it all seems incomprehensible- having an s/o who can literally time travel; but your sheer knowledge of memes and the way you seem to effortlessly drop them into everyday conversation is astounding to him.
He doesn’t understand them that well, no amount of context or explaining will help. It’s simply a language he does not understand that well. And the memes or slang he kind of does understand, he just doesn’t find that funny.
However, he will never actually find it a bother when you drop a few weird jokes. The way they make you laugh and sometimes even dry-heave from the hilarity makes him love you even more.
In moments like that he’ll dryly let out a few slang words he remembers. You will never forget the time he let out a serious and deep “yeet” when you were already hysterically laughing, his addition might have made you stop breathing for a minute. It still makes you grin when you remember him shaking your shoulders and telling you to “breathe dammit!!”
Overall this man does not really get it or find it that entertaining himself, but he’ll gladly tease you and make you smile with the stuff he picks up. Risotto just can’t stop staring at your beaming grin.
Formaggio
Although he doesn’t truly grasp the layers of certain jokes or memes, Formaggio is your man! He’ll start using jokes and memes he learned from you and is so pleased when he makes you laugh with them.
Formaggio is great at continuing a bit but once he loses interest he just...stops. Which is kind of perfect since your knowledge of vines is a lot bigger than those of tiktoks so those quick six seconds are easy to get the point across.
He’ll still get some stuff wrong but he gets the gist of them. He loves annoying his teammates with his newfound references and they all can’t stand him. The second he opens his mouth with that smug look in his eyes, they all sigh in unison and prepare for the incomprehensible babbling that’s about to commence.
The rest of the gang likes you but when you and Formaggio are hanging out at headquarters together, they tend to keep conversations quick because they know once you two team up, the suffering will never end.
“Babe, wake up! New meme just dropped!”
You two are a menace to deal with but god if it isn’t sickeningly cute and funny when he calls you his baby, his cinnamon apple!
Illuso
Don’t get Illuso wrong, he loves you but dear heavens you are on thin ice with him. He isn’t the most joke-y type, he likes a good chuckle but please do not oversaturate him with references he does not get.
He has little to no interest in the videos you wish to show him and even less interest in remembering the ones he begrudgingly watched.
At this point you’re allowed a couple jokes a day, he doesn’t count or literally prevent you from saying them, but you know each other well enough to see when he’s actually getting annoyed.
To shut you up he’ll try and fluster you! He’ll look into your eyes so intensely as you continue talking about a meme, one eyebrow cocked and one side of his beautiful lips curled up into a smug grin.
He’ll place a single hand on your cheek, his thumb gently swiping across it while the rest of his large hand and fingers rest on your scalp. As he hears you stumble over your words and can feel your cheeks heating up he’ll get in nice and close to your lips. Ghosting his over yours and placing a single kiss that you wish would last longer. That’ll keep you quiet for a bit 😌
He accidentally (re-)invents “that’s cringe” without your help. (he’s referring to you, sorry bestie)
Prosciutto
Why are you saying these weird words AT him? Why must you crease his brows even further?
Prosciutto’s patience is getting tested with you and your innate need for adding incomprehensible colourful commentary to everyday things and situations. He truly doesn’t get it and there is no amount of explaining you can do to change his mind. Even after the memes make even a little sense, he won’t find them funny.
He does love you, so much in fact, that he knows asking you to stop isn’t going to work and it wouldn’t be a fair thing to do. He sees how your smirk feeds into the satisfaction of landing a joke in your present time where most of your friends know what you’re talking about.
However when you come around his part of the space time continuum, playtime is over. Well mostly. He does enjoy being a bit goofy around you, his snarky comments get a sarcastic edge that parallels your need for adding a fun flair to mundane things.
The only time you made him laugh with a meme was when you kept repeating “i can’t believe you’ve done this” over and over while poking his cheeks during a playful mood. After a final poke, Prosciutto’s resolve finally breaking, he couldn’t help but snicker. With one final addition of the line, ever surprised by the wonderful sound he makes when he finally breaks, you stop and stare. Enamoured by your wonderful boyfriend and his gorgeous smile.
Pesci
He’s the most supportive partner out there! Anything that makes you laugh and giggle, like the memes you keep showing him, fills his mushy heart with joy.
Pesci will kind of get them? They all make sense in a way, but some of them just go above his head because of the layers of internet knowledge he does not possess. Although he really loves it when you show him stuff that reminded you of him.
🥺🥺🥺🥺 <-- his face the entire day after you show him cute pictures of animals and said they made you think of him. He’s just so in sickeningly smitten with you.
He’ll try out a couple of internet slang terms and blush really badly when they make you laugh. If Pesci could, he’d play your laughter on loop 24/7. Him baby, ok?
When the whole internet was debating their existence and that of every object because everything is cake, you quizzed Pesci on his cake-recognizing skills. He failed horribly, they all looked way too realistic and he might have had a small existential crisis.
You playfully bit his wrist to show he wasn’t made of cake, planting some kisses along the sensitive spot. He shivered at your tickling pecks, relieved he wasn’t just a tasty confection and even happier that you’d love him regardless.
Melone
Your meme comrade.
The first mistake was showing him what the internet was like in your future timeline. He got so invested in its machinations and the entire culture surrounding it. He studied every single social media outlet. Every niche he could find only fuelling his curiosity.
Pandora’s box has been opened and there is no turning back now. Not only does he get all the memes and vines you show him, he memorized them too. Melone will artfully display his knowledge in daily life when you’re around and show off.
Do you regret showing him? Maybe...but is it hilarious to hear him quote terribly long copy/pastas? Yes. Yes it is.
He will steal your phone so he can feed into his meme needs, saving the most fried up images that barely make any sense, to your gallery. You sorted the ones he saves into a special folder so you wouldn’t have to strain your eyes so much.
It’s all fun and games until he starts referencing stuff during more intimate times. At first they made you laugh but as time went on you had to ask him to stop.
Hearing Melone whisper “eeby deeby” while kissing his way down your neck might not be the mood you’d preferred. (hearing him sigh and say “so, no head?” was pretty hilarious tho)
Ghiaccio
To your surprise, once he understands the memes and gets the references, he becomes quite good at using them as well. Steering clear of the misspelled ones, of course. (one bad gloop might actually kill him)
Ghiaccio is such a big softie once he’s alone with you, letting his guard down and finally calm, not irked or stressed by his surroundings.
He loves it when you show him new weird pictures you saved because they made you think of him. You don’t allow him to have a smartphone no matter how much he wants it (it’ll mess up sensitive time stuff) so when you’re scrolling through your preferred meme gathering app with Ghiaccio alongside you, he’ll point out ones and snicker a “that’s you”.
It makes your heart melt how cute he can be with the stuff he picks out. Once he actually said “you’re baby” and you felt your soul leave your precious body as his cheeks turned redder than plush tomatoes in summertime.
When he’s around the rest of the squad or in a more public setting, the usual stressors return. But with you around to offer quick witty jokes, things tend to become less focused on irritation.
You are 100% sure you’ve heard him yell the famous words “AM I WRONG?!” during a heated argument with Melone. You had to leave the room to prevent worsening things, holding in your laughter and silently dying as you heard him rave on.

hi! i sent in a message about a year and a half ago asking if you had any tips on connecting to the land I was on in Australia and you said to feel free to reach out if I had any questions, so here I am :D I believe that the country you are from is close to where I am in Victoria currently (Kulin Nation country) and I was wondering if you had any associations you make with the possum? any folklore or anything would also be cool! I’ve done some research into what possums were historically used for and I was wondering if you had anything else you may be able to divulge. Thank you so much!
Hi! Yes I do remember ☺️ Where my family are from is still a bit always from Vic but! I did look into it for you. I am assuming you want this would be on magical uses of the possum? I hope so otherwise this answer may not be what you are looking for.
Now I don’t have information on the Kulin Nation unfortunately and sadly I don’t have access to a Wiradjuri Lore person to double check the Dreaming stories but I would suggest in lieu of that information I’d suggest sympathetic magic if you are looking at using spirit or using animal products like fur or bones.
So looking at that you can then use the research to apply both historical uses and even modern uses for your craft, like the pelt is water resistant, maybe this could be used to ward against energy or curses - flicking them off you like water off the fur. The pelt is also used in spiritual healing for some people but this is something I am not that familiar with what I know of it is using the pelt to make cloaks with Dreaming or own stories to heal and connect to culture as this is generally used by Indigenous people they may not be the one for you.
So some of my associations and how I’d look at working with possum I associate them as often known for being tricky, opportunistic and I think a little dishonest (like the koala in some stories) so working with possum spirit you could use it to gather information, cause a little ruckus for someone you aren’t happy with or just straight up curse them asking possum to help with it. From the stories I have some recollection of they tend to be a bit of a trickster and trouble maker - but! I do have a funny story about possums getting in the way of a pretty important event of mine so that could be why I see them more of a prankster.
I would suggest thinking about how you relate to the possum and how the possum lives on the country you are on. For me they are always around so they are going to be cheeky and handy to use for causing mischief but if you only see them fleetingly maybe the spirit could help you hide something or yourself from unwanted attention -again like the warding idea making eyes and attention slide off you like water.
So yeah, sorry for the formatting if it is an issue and I hope it makes sense for you and doesn’t read like the ravings of an overexcited nut but I hope that has helped out and answered your question a bit.

Here's that ask I promised :D Some more questions for the OC ask meme <3
What is your character's biggest realtionship flaw? Has that flaw ever destroyed relationships for them before?
Companion they are closest to and why?
Thoughts on the Dalish?
What biases does your character have? (This can be in favor or against)
How does your OC react in stressful situations?
What do they like to ridicule and/or what do they find stupid?
Does your OC have recurring themes in their dreams?
What is your OCs proudest moment?
Did you create the OC to be like yourself, did they end up being like yourself, or are they very different from you?
(These are a lot again, it is so hard to hold back xD So take your time and no pressure as always :) Just excited to get to know more about your Astala <3)
Thank you for the ask!! I had this sitting for forever, life has kept me busy, but I'm so excited to give this a go XD And to delve into some aspects of Astala that I haven't given much thought yet, so that's exciting.
What is your character's biggest realtionship flaw? Has that flaw ever destroyed relationships for them before?
Astala's biggest flaw when it comes to relationships is her inability to let go of people. On a positive note, this trait manifests as a very strong loyalty. On the negative side, it will lead her to cry after relationships that have ended and pour over them to try and find out what went wrong. It can also put her or other people she cares about in danger; especially in her position as the de facto leader of the companions, this could quickly lead to the loss of a whole unit (aka the three companions you can take with you on missions + the Warden). Luckily, she has Morrigan and Alistair (and Sten and Zevran) who can and will point out when a course of action is likely to put them in more danger than they already are.
Companion they are closest to and why?
Ooof, this is a tough one. Ironically, the romanceable four. Alistair is practically second-in-command, even though I imagine he’d protest at the title. They work closely together and are therefore quite close. Astala admires and respects Morrigan, even when her opinions and advice goes against most things Astala believes in. She’s the kind of friend you know would hide a body for you. Leliana is a friend in the more “common” sense. She and Astala both have a thing for nice clothing, their morals are similarly aligned, and they just get along in general. And then of course there’s Zevran, who’s Astala’s love interest. Funnily enough, they both started off annoying the hell out of each other over various petty reasons, and it takes them some time to really see each other for who they are. And from that point on there’s no turning back and they fall hard.
Thoughts on the Dalish?
The Dalish are an interesting subject. Astala hadn't met any previous to the Blight (although her cousin Shianni imagined her dad, who she never knew, to be a strong Dalish warrior). So to see them live these relatively normal lives when she encountered Zathrian's clan was... odd. But on the other hand, their lives were everything but normal because they spoke elvish, worshipped the Creators, had halla and could go wherever they wanted. So the first thing Astala did when she got there was ask a metric ton of questions about everything. On the other hand, the way some of the Dalish talk about the city elves makes her sad. They have a point , the city elves would probably treat one of the Dalish similarly, and she understands the distrust in anything that so much as smells of humans; but she still finds the divide tragic. She also thinks the Dalish are a bit too proud for their own good; but then again, how else are you going to defend yourself against a world that threw an Exalted March against your forebears' homeland?
What biases does your character have? (This can be in favor or against)
Astala is generally biased in favour of elves, and in favour of whoever she percieves to be the underdog in a given situation. This can lead her to get duped (it hasn’t yet in my current playthrough, but it probably will at some point).
How does your OC react in stressful situations?
When in stressful situations, Astala generally tries to remain in control of it. To do so, she relies heavily on whatever companions she has at the moment and the resources available, both in the environment and on her person. She tends to try and talk things out, but also to make rash judgements, which uuuuuh can backfire (she's quick to draw her blades, for instance, and that does not exactly help to deescalate situations). She also has a tendency to just seize control. She also will give orders and will expect others to follow them. The companions look to her as a leader, so that works out fine. In Redcliffe, however, she did find that the militia men would listen to the mayor, and not to her. That was frustrating for both parties.
What do they like to ridicule and/or what do they find stupid?
Human nobles. Just the whole package. From their fondness of dogs and their dainty dances (which her father, who was a bann's servant, would describe to her and her cousins) to their pointy-ended shoes and their petty grievances (because when you have enough money to boss other people around, all your grievances are petty, right?). A surefire way to keep the younger kids entertained was to pretend to be a noble, let them play servants, and have them wreak havoc upon you as they got orders wrong on purpose and "stole" the "noble's" belongings. Afyer the Blight, that fondness to ridicule sadly wanes away and leaves mostly frustration in its wake.
Does your OC have recurring themes in their dreams?
Astala is a terribly heavy sleeper. If she dreams, she doesn't remember it come morning. She can therefore sadly not report any recurrent themes in her dreams as of now.
What is your OCs proudest moment?
Apart from the power trip in the Fade (she walked out smiling and continued to smile until Uldred turned into a pride demon), it was probably when she got her first job. She was 14 at the time and overheard some boys talking about how a merchant was expecting a big shipment and looking for new help. Up until then, she had been trying to get a job as a servant like her father, to no avail. On a whim she followed the boys, and lined up with the other hopeful candidates in front of the merchant's warehouses for a try-out (a selection process entailing an unpaid day of work). She proved herself to be strong enough to lift and carry crates, small and nimble enough to climb to where others couldn't reach, and above all she got extremely lucky. She was called back, first for one month, then for a trimester, then for one year and for another. And while Cyrion would have liked his daughter to have an easier and less dangerous job, he was proud right alongside her when she brought the first coins she had earned home.
Did you create the OC to be like yourself, did they end up being like yourself, or are they very different from you?
I created Astala's first version (which I mentioned in this post) based on a character that was very much an ideal; strong, kind, and above all, brave and adventurous. That first heroic version then got put through all the trials and tribulations of the story, and I was very much going with my gut instinct and not with a predetermined idea of the character when I tokk her decisions. So basically, this first versions had a good chunk of my morals and priorities. After the Deep Roads, that first version started getting depth; she reacted very strongly to having to shoulder the responsability of chosing a new king for Orzammar, for Ferelden, and defeating the Archdemon. From that point on, I started exploring why that reaction might have been so strong. Astala as she is now is the product of that exploration (during which she acquired some fears and pain points she shares with me. Examples are the fear of messing up, the sometimes blind loyalty or the need to shoulder all the responsability). Bottom line: she definitely has parts that are mine, some of which she acquired over time, but she's her own person. She's not me.
---
That was a lot of fun!! Thank you so much for the ask and sorry for the delay >.< But I'm very happy I finally came around to it, I always love answering these

knowing you : s.r
spencer has been a regular at your cafe for a few months, and after working up the courage to ask you on a date he disappears out of the blue without an explanation. (2.4k)
knowing you / forgetting you / remembering you / with or without you / starting over, with you
Tumblr media
There were elements to your job that you had a love/hate relationship with. The mornings where you woke up before the sun fully had, dealing with rude customers deprived of their first dose of caffeine along with the pseudonyms they provide you with (which you’ve learned you can’t always yell out as the elders freak out.) And lastly, your staff (but they tended to lean heavier on the love side of things.)
Yet, amongst all of it, you still managed to smile by the time you closed up in the evening. You adored your little cafe, though it was never heaving with people, it was comfortable.
“Hey, look who’s hovering outside.” Your colleague, Maggie nudges you playfully as you glance over the counter to the large window filled with your menu written in calligraphy.
And standing in front of it, the quiet smart guy you’ve grown fond of; Spencer.
A smile grows across your face, but you hide your head in the steam that rises from the milk for a second. “It’s been what, two days since he was last here?” Maggie quips, waiting for you to comment.
“Everyone’s gotta get coffee somewhere, Mags.” You remind her, brushing it off.
Spencer was a customer at the end of the day, just like everyone else. Just because he came to your cafe doesn’t mean he’s here for anything more than his double espresso and a blueberry muffin. Even if your heart wished it could be more.
Pushing open the door, the little bell sounds and Spencer looks up before smiling over to you. “Morning, Spencer.” You beam as you lean across the counter as Spencer eyes up the various pastries and paninis you had to offer this morning.
“Hi,” Spencer speaks quietly, clutching his satchel across his chest. “could I get a double espresso and two muffins, please?”
“A double?” Maggie pitches in, and Spencer looks over to your colleague who stands beside you, holding back her tongue as Spencer nods.
“Caffeine stimulates a similar effect as the stress hormone cortisol, which is secreted in large amounts after an hour or two of waking up in the morning. It takes on the form of waking you up, making you believe you need the caffeine as, without it, you can have stomach aches, headaches and trembles.” Spencer rambles, and you nod in appreciation for the knowledge. “And I prefer a double.”
“Guess you like strong coffee, then.” Maggie mutters, giving you the eye as you smile to yourself.
Turning around you carry on prepping the machine as the espresso drips into the paper cup. “Two muffins, huh? Saving one for later?” You chuckle as you pick the two freshest muffins out that are still warm from the oven.
And then you hear it, Spencer’s awkward chortle that causes butterflies to flutter in your stomach and rise to your throat.
Swallowing the butterflies back down, you place the box onto the counter alongside his coffee, his name written across it with a smiley face.
“Well, I wanted to take one for my friend, Garcia. She’s been by here before, I don’t know if you’d remember her?” Spencer explains and watches you closely, noticing how your eyes drift off into deep thought and your tongue slips through your lower lip before you shake your head. “She probably complimented every single detail in the cafe, wore something colourful?” He adds, and suddenly your eyes light up as you remember.
“Penelope? How could I forget! I’ll give her a complimentary muffin if she comes in again.” You giggle, and Spencer’s eyes crinkle up as he accepts the small box and coffee.
“She’ll love that. Thank you.” Spencer states as he places the cash onto the counter and adds a few dollars to your tip jar- something you forget exists as it collects dust most days, but Spencer always leaves a three dollar tip.
“Thank you, Spencer. Have a good day.” You begin to turn away as you clean up the counter and coffee machine, missing the longing glance Spencer has before he heads to the door, but thankfully Maggie is watching like a hawk.
“Have a good day?” Maggie mutters, crossing her arms. “He was giving you the eyes, babe.” She comments, but you roll your eyes in response once more.
Picking up your tray, you move past the counter and over to clean up a table. “He wasn’t, Maggie.” You simply reply.
“He was dear.” A new voice pitches in, one of your regulars, Annie. “Finding someone who looks at you like he does is a rare thing, I would know.” Annie’s focus drifts to the empty seat opposite her, one that has been vacant for a few months since her husband passed.
“I don’t know, Annie,” You trail off, but some of your other regulars also comment on the small looks exchanged between you and Spencer. “Sorry. am I being interrogated in my own cafe?” You joke as three of your regulars laugh before returning to their own conversations.
“Don’t let it slip out of your grasp, Y/n.” Annie finishes as she rises to her feet, leaving her mug with a few dollar bills underneath before walking out of the exit.
Sighing deeply, you run your fingers through your hair as your mind goes blank, unable to apprehend how various people have seen you giving Spencer those soppy glances and the fact they might be reciprocated?
You shrug it off, allowing your mind to return to work as another customer comes in, and your day can proceed as normal.
*
“Bye guys,” You wave off your colleagues as Maggie closes the door behind her, leaving you to close up for the evening.
It had been a fairly slow day, but Thursdays tended to be in the cafe so it wasn’t anything to worry about.
As you walk around to the counter and bend down to collect the leftover cakes you hear the bell chime. “Sorry, we’re closed!” You call out, placing a few cakes away before lifting your head up to see a rather flustered Spencer. “Spencer?”
Pushing his hair out of his face, Spencer sighs happily as he smiles to you. “Hi, I, I’m sorry I didn’t realise you closed at 6.” He rambles, a look of hopelessness in his gaze. “I’ll head out, sorry for bothering you, Y/n.”
Spencer turns around, but before he reaches the door, you stop him. “Spencer?” Immediately, Spencer awkwardly spins on his heels, facing you once more. “Would you like a coffee, one for the road anyway?” You shyly suggest, watching as Spencer’s smile only widens as he nods.
“I’d love that, I, I only just got back from a work trip and thought I’d see if you were still open.” Spencer explains as you push aside your containers and take out a go cup.
“That’s alright, I like to do what I can for my regulars.” You chuckle, placing the cup on the counter. As Spencer reaches into his satchel, you shake your head. “Oh don’t worry ‘bout it, Spencer.” You tell him and Spencer pauses.
“I have to pay you, Y/n!” He laughs, but you insist. “Well, at least let me help you close up.”
“Spencer it’s fine honestly. You’re probably tired as it is.” You shrug him off, expecting him to just walk out after that.
But Spencer isn’t like any other guy, he takes a sip of his coffee and removes his satchel and places it on a chair. “Where do I start?” He questions, rolling the sleeves of his purple shirt up to his elbows, prepared for business.
The sight makes you laugh lightly, he looks adorable in every sense which makes you slightly flustered. “Well erm,” You look around, trying to think of an easy job that’ll result in the least hassle for him. “how about you put these cakes away? I’ll drop them off to the food shelter on my way home.” You explain, motioning to the containers and Spencer nods, taking his place behind the counter whilst you clean the tables.
Pausing from placing the cakes into containers, Spencer looks up in awe as you carry on cleaning. “Do you have any flaws?” He thinks to himself, knowing the answer rationally is yes, as every human being has 10 design flaws in the human body, but you personally, he can’t imagine any.
“Did you say something, Spencer?” You quip, lifting your head up as Spencer quickly shakes his head, missing the smile on your lips as you hold back a soft laugh.
“Which food bank do you take these to?” Spencer asks as you move onto your last table, picking up your small menus and coasters whilst you place them onto the chairs.
“Usually the one two blocks over, but sometimes I stop on the way to Gary - he’s a homeless veteran who camps out under the bus shelter. He’s a good man, but life hasn’t been kind to him.” You explain, thinking how different his life could’ve been. “I’ve tried offering him a job here before, but he shakes uncontrollably.”
“That sounds like a sign of PTSD, Veterans used to go undiagnosed during the war and suffered from vivid flashbacks, trembling, nausea and intrusive thoughts. Most were outcasted from society, but expected to adjust to normal life afterwards which is what leads many to the streets.” Spencer explains, and once he finishes, you raise an eyebrow.
“And here I thought you were just a pretty face.” You chuckle, causing a blush to cross Spencer’s cheeks. “You’ve never told me what you do Spencer, outside of drinking heavy doses of caffeine.”
Spencer rests his hands out over the ledge behind the counter as you walk over, discarding the cleaning supplies beside him. “I work for the FBI.” He starts, and you nod along, trying to hide your surprise. “For the BAU, the behavioural analysis unit. We analyse peoples behaviour to assist in cases around the country to help solve crimes.” Spencer explains simply, not wanting to overcomplicate the matter as your eyes widen.
“So you analyse people’s behaviour? Does that mean you’ve analysed me?” You slowly trail off as you move away from Spencer and sit down at one of the tables, suddenly feeling self-conscious as his eyes remain on you.
Moving across the cafe, Spencer pulls out the chair opposite you and rests his hands on the table, firmly clasped together. He doesn’t want to lie to you, but he equally does not want to sound like a creep.
“You can be honest, Spencer.” It’s as if you can read his mind as you give him those warm eyes that greet him in the mornings, making him sure that whatever happens at work, you’ll be alright when he next comes in.
Fidgeting ever so slightly, Spencer closes his eyes to allow his mind to focus- something that is usually effortless, but whenever you cross his thoughts they become scrambled.
“You are a warm person naturally, an extrovert as you invite people into your cafe. Mornings are a struggle as you keep a refillable cup by your side next to the coffee machine. I saw you refill it last Tuesday and it must’ve been at least your third cup as I was later that day. You like to please others, make them happy and by doing so you sacrifice your own wellbeing. Helping people makes you happy, but you don’t do it for selfish reasons which I like a lot about you, Y/n.” Spencer explains, and as he looks up you stare at him in a state of awe.
“And you got all that, from interacting with me every week?” You laugh lightly, leaning back in your chair as astonishment crosses your eyes as you click your tongue.
“Yes.” Spencer curtly nods. “That and I have an IQ of 187, an eidetic memory and 3 PHD’s.” He adds nonchalantly.
“Just casually slipping that into conversation, Doctor.” You raise an eyebrow, and Spencer brushes his fingers through his curls.
Tearing your eyes from him, you look up at the clock and swear under your breath. “I’m sorry, Spencer, I’ve got to go.” You tell him with a sad smile, not wanting this to end as he gathers his things along with his cold coffee- not that he’d ever tell you otherwise.
Spencer hovers by the doorway as you switch off the last of the lights and juggle the containers in your arms along with your keys. “Let me help with that, Y/n.” Spencer reaches out, his fingers gliding over yours as he takes the boxes painfully slowly.
“Thanks,” You mutter as you turn the sign over on the door and lock it behind you whilst Spencer stands idly outside, the temperature dropping fastly compared to the LA sunshine he had experienced mere hours beforehand. “my cars just up here, do you mind?”
Shaking his head, Spencer walks alongside you. It feels strange, interacting with him outside of your little bubble, but to him, he likes the chance to burst the comfort bubble.
Bearing in mind all that Penelope and Derek have told him on the jet home, Spencer places the containers in the trunk of your car before you close it.
“Well, this is me.” You rock back and forth on your heels as Spencer wracks his mind to communicate with his mouth. “Spencer?” You wave your hand over his face, and suddenly he snaps out of his deep thoughts.
“Sorry,” He mutters, tugging on his scarf. “Y/n, would you like to go out somewhere, sometime? I mean, I love your cafe, but a change of scenery never hurt.” Spencer asks, and he can see the surprise in your expression as you glance away to your feet. “If not, that’s okay. I understand-”
“I’d love to.” You cut him off from his own doubts as you step closer and rise to your tiptoes, kissing his cheek. “Here’s my number, I keep some business cards in my pocket.” You hand him your card and Spencer runs his thumb over the embossed logo.
“I’ll call you.” Spencer tells you with a bright smile, one that causes butterflies to swarm in your stomach as you walk to your car door. “Drive safe, Y/n.”
“Take care Doctor,” You salute to Spencer before you close your door, driving off out of sight as a squeal escapes your lips in excitement at the thought of Spencer calling you.
Except, what you missed as you turned the corner was Spencer getting a phone call that would change everything for the worse, leaving you in the dark as Spencer answers his phone with his full heart now sinking.
He’s heading to Mexico.

The Oncoming Storm Part 11: Gamble and Gossip
Liu Kang x Reader and Kung Lao x Reader (gonna do both, two paths!)
Some scene setting, and fun teasing. Who doesn't like to be teased about the two hot guys that are begging for their attention? And I mean, I sure do love writing these boys! Thanks for reading. I appreciate you guys so much. It's made this experience SO much fun. Will update again tomorrow... and also maybe Monday if all goes well ;D
Part 10 Part 12 Chapter Index
Liu Kang was seated amongst a handful of other monks, undoubtedly leading them in meditation. It was afternoon and Kung Lao had some time to think over what you had said the night before. He’d since made a few decisions on the matter. Before doing anything, he had to run it by his ‘brother’. Liu Kang had always been more level-headed than he was- more careful, more studious. Kung Lao knew that Liu Kang was going to hate his idea but it had to be said. He didn’t see another way out.
Leaning against the wall near the door, he tilted his hat and waited for the monks to finish their meditation. He’d never been big on meditating either. He’d done it, obviously, but his thoughts had always run amok throughout. Liu Kang spoke with the other monks and then waited for them to leave the room before stopping in front of Kung Lao, arms folded over his chest expectantly.
“All done?”
“You could have joined in. Less distracting.”
“I’ll pass.”
“How’s she doing?”
“Later.”
“What?”
“We’ll talk about that later. It’s not why I’m here.”
“Then…?” Liu Kang sighed expectantly, bowing his head as one of the monks peeked inside to thank him for the meditation. “What?”
“I want a fair chance.”
“What does that mean, Lao?” The sigh Liu Kang gave him was a familiar one and it made Kung Lao laugh under his breath.
“It means that we should order takeout. What do you think it means, Liu? For Y/N, obviously. You knew exactly what I meant. Why waste time and make me explain it?”
“I’m sorry, what?”
He knew that Liu Kang was going to hate this. Even talking about you had made him uncomfortable.
“Don’t be sorry.”
“You know that I wasn’t actually apologizing, Lao. Get to your point.”
“We’re going to make it interesting.”
“I thought we’d already talked about this.”
“Did you think we were actually done talking?”
“I had hoped.” Liu frowned. “She can do whatever she wants, Kung Lao. You and I don’t have any say in what she does. She’s an adult. I’m not going to fight with you over her. That’s ridiculous. We’re not schoolboys.”
“Who said anything about fighting?” Kung Lao chuckled and Liu couldn’t have looked less approving.
“This is feeling very childish.”
“Oh, come on. You like her. Right?” Liu Kang said nothing in response but then when Kung Lao gave him a knowing look, Liu nodded.
“Well, so do I.” Kung Lao shrugged. It was simple. They had a problem so he had come up with a creative solution. “To be fair? I saw her first…”
“…I’m coming back to that we’re-not-schoolboys thing and find I’m having to remind you that we’re not children.”
“Fine, fine. I’m just saying that there’s no reason we shouldn’t make this interesting. We’re both vying for her attention and whoever wins? Wins.”
“Why do I feel like I’m about to call you an asshole?”
“We bet on it.”
“I was right. You’re an asshole.” Liu Kang silenced him with a look and Kung Lao smiled. “I’m not betting on someone else’s choices, Kung Lao.”
“Hear me out, Liu!” Kung Lao followed his brother out of the room and down the hall. Liu Kang stopped and turned to face him expectantly. “It could be fun?”
“Ugh. Isn’t she going through enough right now without us and… you being the way you are?”
“I’m just saying, Liu. This is happening one way or another so why not have a harmless little game on the side?” Kung Lao joined him in his walk, amused by both his brother’s disgust and curiosity.
“And what would the stakes be in this hypothetical bet?”
“That’s more like it.” Kung Lao clapped his hands together and stretched them in front of him. “Chores? Errands? Something harmless. For like a month.”
“And the other backs off. Bows out. No hard feelings.” Liu Kang suggested and stopped his walk, tapping his thumb against his prayer beads in thought.
“Finally, you’re part of the fun.” Kung Lao laughed. “Chores too, though.”
“So, what exactly would the terms be? Also, I’m throwing it out there that I do not feel terribly good about this. It feels manipulative.”
“It’s not. You like her. I like her. Neither one of us is leading her on. No one’s lying.”
“And yet now there are stakes. We’re betting over the decisions of another human. It feels… morally gray at the least.”
“What? Are you worried that I’m going to steal your girl? Who was my girl to begin with, just as a reminder.”
“No.” Liu Kang was instantly defensive. “And she doesn’t belong to anyone. I need you to stop phrasing it that way.”
“You’re worried that she’s going to kiss me first and not know what to do.” Kung Lao teased. “Worried that you might lose all that extra ground you covered while I was gone.” Kung Lao enjoyed making Liu Kang uncomfortable and was happy to see him considering his game. He wanted a fair shot and it seemed the only way without arguing with his brother. Liu Kang averted his gaze and looked far past Kung Lao who followed his gaze and then scoffed in surprise. He’d already kissed you. Well, that certainly changed things. “Interesting. So, I’m working at a bigger disadvantage than I thought.”
“Disadvantage?” Liu rolled his eyes. “You grew up together. She holds you in deep reverence. She asks about you all the time. That’s not a disadvantage.”
“Don’t pretend that being made of fire isn’t working in your favor. Neither of our standings are fair so… that makes it kind of fair, right?”
Liu Kang rolled his eyes again. “What are the terms, Kung Lao?”
“Well, first we agree not to be angry with each other no matter what comes of it.”
“Annoyed is acceptable, right? Because I’m already annoyed.”
“Of course.” Kung Lao swatted him on the back. “Well, then the only terms are her choosing one of us. Like you said. It’s not really up to us.”
“So, I’m supposed to be fine wondering what the two of you are up to. Is that the real reason you’re doing this?”
“I said that being annoyed was fine, remember? Besides, it’ll make you work harder.” Kung Lao teased, though he didn’t love the mental image of Liu kissing you either. That ship had sailed apparently and he had ground to regain. “So when she chooses, then one of us wins.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it. No strings attached. I’m not going to even brag.”
“I don’t believe that for a single second.”
“No, really. I’m just trying to cut the air between us over it. This way we can be honest. I know that she’s attached to you and while she’s attached to me, that’s in a different sense. Also, I want you to do my chores and errands for a month.”
“Well, aren’t you confident?”
“I’m the descendant of the Great Kung Lao. What makes you think that I won’t?”
“Fine. We can have this little bet. You are, however, an asshole to think of this. When she inevitably gets angry about it? I’m deferring to you.”
“Defer away. I’m extremely charming.” Kung Lao clasped his shoulder and then gestured down the hall. “Spar? It’s been a while.”
“Yeah, sure. Why not?”
***
You slept into the next afternoon, something that you had sorely needed. When you woke up, you were alone and grateful for it. You adored Liu Kang and Kung Lao but the air had become thick with them around. It felt nice not to have to have your guard up for a few minutes. For now, you could lay in bed, curled up in your blanket like a burrito, and procrastinate on getting on with your day.
Your side was sore and you were exhausted despite the extra sleep. That was to be expected considering the blood loss and trauma of the night before. After a few minutes spent rolling around in bed, you got up, got cleaned up, and dressed. Then you made your way down to the infirmary, stopping only once to help a monk who had their hands full. You figured it was better to go make sure that your side was doing okay rather than have to break the promise you’d made to Chen the night before.
You walked into the infirmary and speak of the devil, there was Chen. You smiled and waved in greeting to you. You returned the wave shyly and stepped further inside. Chen offered you a hug, then urged you to take a seat on the bench you’d sat upon more times than you could count now. Chen took the seat next to you.
“I was hoping that you’d check in with us today before getting yourself into more trouble.” Chen looked to you disapprovingly and you pouted. “You know, it was pretty peaceful before you arrived.”
“I find that difficult to believe.”
“Okay, so it’s not much less chaotic, but still. It’s been much bloodier the last few weeks with you around. Come on, shirt up, let me see.” Chen was a few years older than you, you suspected. You hadn’t asked but the way Chen spoke led you to believe that there was a small age gap. You had worn the tank top from the night before. It was so much easier to maneuver around than the gi or the hanfu. You put it in the back of your mind to ask Lao or Liu if you could leave the temple at some point to buy some other clothing. You liked the hanfu and the gi but they were antiquated and inconvenient at times.
You tugged up your shirt and Chen pulled the gauze away from the wound. The skin around it was tender but you didn’t flinch. Chen wasn’t gentle with you anymore either. In fact, she’d told you several times that the best way for you to heal would be for you to be treated normally. You’d even heard Chen scold Liu Kang once for pampering you and had a good laugh about it.
Chen tended to the wound. You didn’t look at it. It was very sore even though it had been cauterized. It made your whole torso ache, even sitting upright was a chore. Still, at least you weren’t bleeding out anymore. You could recover from the blood loss at least. Chen rattled on about her day while she worked, talking about the walk she’d taken that morning and a delivery of medicine that had come with one of the other monks returning from a long journey.
You struggled to focus. It wasn’t that Chen was boring, just that you were exhausted and the pulling and tugging of the wound didn’t help.
“So, yesterday was interesting.” Chen shoved your shoulder when it was clear you were no longer paying attention to her stories. You pouted again.
“That’s one word for it. Miserable? That’s a pretty good word for it too.”
“Oh, I suppose that was interesting too but I meant with Kung Lao.”
You rolled your eyes so hard that Chen laughed and smacked the back of your head. “Ow! He felt guilty, okay? Your brain is constantly in the gutter.”
“I thought you were sweet on Liu Kang.”
“Could you lower your voice if you’re going to talk like that? Jeez.” You hushed her and Chen laughed.
“We all thought you were sweet on Liu Kang.” Chen lowered her voice.
“I didn’t come here to talk about this. I came here to keep my no-bleeding-in-the-temple promise. So please, please let all of that go and do the thing where you tell me to be careful but go about my day.”
“Okay, okay.” Chen continued to clean the wound and was quiet only for a second. “…but you know? That was interesting. Kung Lao doesn’t come down here often. Avoids us like the plague. Yet, he stayed here nearly all night long for you.”
“You can’t agree to let it go and then keep yammering on about it. That’s lying. You’re a lying monk. That’s probably bad. Morally gray at the very least.”
“You’re being awfully evasive.”
“Not evasive I just don’t really want to talk about it.” You laughed. You had dwelled about these things enough on your own. It was nice, at least, to know that the tension wasn’t in your head. The others had noticed it too, so you weren’t going crazy. Was that good or bad? You had no idea.
“Like hell!”
“Again? Probably bad for a monk.” You laughed nervously as others stopped to look at you with Chen’s outburst. Chen waved the other monks off and they returned to their tasks.
“This is the juiciest gossip we’ve had in so long, Y/N.”
“I thought that you were supposed to be humble and all that.”
“We’re not perfect. That’s part of the deal.”
“I’m just saying that it feels like someone somewhere is probably judging you for this.”
“We’re still allowed to experience fun and excitement, Y/N. And this is very fun. And exciting.”
“Making me uncomfortable? That’s what’s fun and exciting?”
“Yes, Y/N. So, Kung Lao. What’s going on with that?”
“It’s complicated.”
“What about it is so complicated?”
“I knew him when we were kids. Old friends, I guess? Like I said, it’s complicated.” It was so much more complicated than you let on.
“Oh, come on.” Chen laughed and you couldn’t help but laugh with her. It really was ridiculous. The whole situation was absurd. You were glad for Chen then, who brought you back down to earth. You got so into your head about everything the past few days that hearing someone else’s voice on the matter was a reprieve, even if it was terribly embarrassing. “Please tell me that you two went and had some fun.”
“Chen!” Your face turned red.
“You’ve had nothing but pain since you got here, well except for that time I caught you and Liu Kang snuggling. Sue me for hoping you got to have a bit of the opposite.” Chen considered it and then shrugged. “Well, or a lot of the opposite. With at least one of them.”
“You can’t possibly be a monk. Someone has lied to me.”
“Your face is so red. I’ve never seen it that red.”
“You’re killing me.”
“It’s delightful.”
“My face can’t handle much more of this, I swear. Are we done here? Can I go throw my head in cold water and think pure thoughts?” You dared to peek at the wound and winced at the sight of it. It was ugly but still better than it looked the night before. Chen fanned the wound with the gauze in her hand.
“You should come meet us later so that we can catch up.”
“You mean gossip. You want me to meet you to gossip.”
“Yes, that is exactly what I mean.” Chen covered the wound with the gauze and you pulled your shirt back down over it.
“We’ll see. The day’s already half over and I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing today. If I have free time, I’ll consider coming to bother you.” You weren’t sure you’d get the chance but if it ended the torturous teasing for the time being then you would at least consider it. Besides, even with the teasing, Chen was good company.
“I could find us some wine.”
“You are the worst monk,” you whispered.
“I expect a juicy story in return.”
“I don’t have any juicy stories.” You lied. You lied right through your teeth.
“Before you run off, please just give me a few details of…”
“Y/N?” Kung Lao’s voice interrupted and Chen sat upright and pretended to be working on cleaning up the mess she’d made taking care of your wound. Your face was still red and you shot daggers at Chen with your eyes but Chen was smiling brightly and avoiding your eyes. Chen stood up and allowed Kung Lao to take the spot where she’d been seated. You took calming breaths to try and will the redness away from your face.
“What are you doing here?” You cleared your throat and Kung Lao placed his hand to your cheek. His hand was cold in comparison but took up the entire side of your face.
“Are you having a reaction? Your face is on fire.”
“Just overheated. It’s warm out today.” You urged his hand away from your cheek but his fingertips still lingered. This was the worst timing. It was as though he’d planned with Chen to embarrass you. He didn’t seem to think you were embarrassed though, instead, he was concerned.
“How are you feeling? Wound still closed up?” Kung Lao reached to tug up your shirt and you gasped in surprise and swatted his hand away. He looked wounded as he pulled his hand back then grinned playfully.
“Don’t be so grabby. It’s fine. I just wanted to check in on it before going about my day.”
“Probably hurts something fierce still.”
“Yeah, it’s weighing on me.” You breathed a sigh of relief as you managed to relieve the burning in your face.
“Can I see it?”
“Why?”
“I’m curious.”
“No.” You stuck your tongue out at him. “Not a good enough reason.”
“Wow, okay.” He patted your leg with a laugh and rested his hand there. You did your best not to stare at it and also tried to ignore Chen spying on you. “If you’re done here then why don’t we get up and practice a bit?”
“I’m not sure that’s the best idea, Kung Lao.” You stared at his hand on your leg.
“You won’t get any better if you don’t keep it up. Nothing too crazy. Won’t even use my hat.” He tapped the brim and then brushed his fingers along the side of it.
“I’m nervous.” You hated that you’d admitted it and regretted saying it immediately. Kung Lao urged his hand from your leg, tilted his posture toward you, and brushed his fingertips over your jaw and beneath your chin. You fought off another shiver and he scooted closer to you, knees just barely pressed against yours.
“I promise to protect you. Don’t worry so much.”
“I uh…” Your voice, once again, felt small, something that was becoming much more common this close to him. He smirked as if realizing you were uncomfortable. “I’m more nervous for you than me. I attacked Liu without knowing.”
“I can handle myself, Y/N.”
“Oh?”
“I’m happy to prove it to you,” he whispered in your ear. You felt your heart stop dead in its tracks. His breath was hot on your ear then suddenly he stood up and left you seated alone. “Come on. Let’s go.” He walked out of the infirmary and you watched him go, stupefied. Chen grabbed your arm and urged you to your feet and mouthed for you to go.
“This is such a mess. A complete and total mess.” You followed after Kung Lao and Chen made a joking kissy face as you walked out of the infirmary.
