The best utility apps on Android in 2023
Google automatically removes permissions for apps that you haven't used for a while. But that's the kicker. Going through each app's settings just to remove permissions one by one is a chore. Bouncer does it much sooner. Immediately, in fact, the app only grants temporary permissions to the other apps that you install. Should you wish to, any permissions granted prior can be automatically removed. Bouncer retails for $1.99, but it's a small sum to pay for making your device more private and secure.
Temporary App Permissions
Don't you hate giving apps permission? Permission to access your device's camera or storage or even your exact location? Unfortunately, doing this has become unavoidable as most apps refuse to work unless you grant them access to what's essentially your privacy.
Do It Now: RPG To-Do List
Wouldn't life be more fun if it was like a video game? Imagine if you could earn experience points for almost any action, like going to work, doing the laundry, or just reading a book. On paper, Do It Now is a typical productivity and task management app, but it does things differently.
As you can probably tell by the RPG in the subtitle, Do It Now makes everyday tasks seem more rewarding. Do It Now provides you with a virtual hero that earns experience points, gains valuable skills, and even levels up. Use the app's in-built calendar and task list and earn rewards for completing certain actions. Create tasks, organize them, tick them off and watch your hero grow from an apprentice into a master. You can check on apk pro 1m list.
Google Find My Device
The idea of losing your phone is a dreadful one, as your device pretty much entails a lot of your daily life. Maybe you left it at a bar after a long night out. Perhaps, you were in transit and forgot your phone on a bus or a plane. Now your device is doing rounds across the country or possibly the world.
Google's Find My Device allows you to access your handset remotely from another device. With this app installed, you can lock it remotely to prevent access or leave your contact details for anyone who's stumbled upon your device. As a last resort, you can also completely wipe all information from your device.
Google Translate
Who do you turn to when you need a quick translation? Probably Google Translate. But opening it in your browser every time you need to translate something is tedious. Installing the Google Translate app, however, gives you translation tools in almost every app you use.
Just tap on the translation prompt, and it will translate text in almost every app, including messenger apps like Telegram and WhatsApp. Google Translate uses its vast directory of up to 108 languages and translates between many of them in real time. Even better, the app translates text in the real world by using your device's camera. Simply point the camera at a sign or billboard, or anything that has text on it, and Google Translate will promptly translate it into your chosen language.
KWGT Kustom Widget Maker
Android comes with a decent amount of visual customization options by default. That said, most of them don't offer much control over your device's layout. If you want to personalize your device into something unique, you may want to look at additional apps, such as KWGT Kustom Widget Maker.
In a nutshell, KWGT allows you to customize the look of your launcher and lockscreen with unique widgets. It gives you access to over one thousand free widgets and provides you with near-limitless control over what appears on your device's lock screen.
KWGT is ad-supported but offers a Pro version which also comes included with a Play Pass subscription.
ML Manager: APK Extractor
For the most part, many turn to the Play Store to install an app on their Android device. That said, apps not officially offered by Google are still available for download in the form of APKs, or Android Package Kits. In essence, the APK contains everything to install and run the app on your phone or tablet.
ML Manager allows you to download apps as APKs and back them up for safekeeping. What if the app becomes delisted, or you need a particular version no longer published on the store? Perhaps you want to share that APK with someone you know via a messenger app like Telegram or WhatsApp. ML Manager lets you do that, too. ML Manager also offers a paid Pro version that gives you access to additional features, such as the ability to uninstall redundant system apps, along with their cache and data.
Twilio Authy Authenticator
Unfortunately, being always connected means you're simultaneously connected to potential hackers or scammers. Having a strong password is no longer enough, especially if you're using the same password for multiple accounts. That's why many services emphasize the importance of 2-factor authentication or 2FA. In addition to the password, with 2FA enabled, you also need to receive a code to your phone in order to access the account.
Authy makes this seemingly tedious process a breeze. All you need to do is get a prompt to enter the code. Authy then generates a temporary code. If any wrong-doer wanted to invade your account, they'd also need immediate action to your phone, in addition to the standard password.
Ultra Lock - App Lock & Vault
Ultra Lock improves your device's security and privacy. First and foremost, Ultra Lock provides you with a dynamic device pin. You can set your pin to change along with the current time and date. In other words, your pin is whatever the clock on your device currently displays.
With Ultra Lock, you can also lock specific apps or folders with a password, or limit their use to specific time frames. To make your device even more secure, Ultra Lock utilizes the front camera to capture anyone who's trying to gain access to your phone while you're not looking.
Also, much like KWGT, Ultra Lock comes with an ad-free version via a Play Pass subscription.
Apps that streamline your Android experience
Along with frequent updates, Android OS receives new and exciting features. But they're not always enough to give you complete control over customizing your new smartphone. Advanced customization and accessibility options often require the installation of additional apps, and that's when these tool and utility apps come into play.

Postcards from Snagglepuss
So it's off to the lake with the Three Wolves!
One good thing about heading towards the Brainerd Lakes out of Duluth: Highway 210, westbound and out. By way of the Cuyuna Iron Range, or the remnants thereof, made even more interesting by some of the abandoned open-pit mines having filled in with water and become rather popular dive spots with a remarkable clarity of visibility.
The fact of which was doubtless not lost upon my lupine companions, as in Loopy De Loop, Hokey Wolf and Mildew Wolf, who have invited yours truly to join them over a northern Minnesota summer in their diving escapades at a location which I have been sworn to secrecy not to reveal.
But that's for later.
As a matter of fact, it was over lunch at Duluth's legendary Grandma's Restaurant, looking out upon Duluth Harbour and the Aerial Bridge even, that the lupine trio asked me to join on. (And did I mention how legendary their burgers are?)
Especially considering that, at least until State Fair Time, yours truly would be at serious loose ends in the adventure arena, even if it's not the Jonny Quest sort, should you be wondering; rather, yours truly is more the sort fond of light-hearted and almost whimsical-type adventure. And aren't we all in the Hanna-Barbera Funtastic Universe, come to think of it?
"More than anything, Snag old buddy," Hokey Wolf parsed it, "at least your presence is certainly going to make things interesting, as if my bringing along Ding-a-Ling--and Loopy his nephew, Bon-Bon--weren't exactly enough of a distraction!"
"So what else is bound to be in store?"
"Plenty, Snag, PLENTY!!" was how an oh-so-exuberant Hokey exclaimed it in that stentorian Sgt. Bilko inflection. "And I'm bringing along my girlfriend, Harmony Wolf, for the diver's holiday!!"
"I suppose she knows diving, or is otherwise--"
"Willing to learn, Snag! And I assure you, that the nights are certain to be rather interesting with her company!!"
"Which," Mildew Wolf rejoindered, "is probably better than a certain nameless Bow-Wow Buttinski forever on my basket case!"
Which had me chuckling there.
=============
But at any rate, on the road to our ur-diver's camp, our first diving-related stop: Cuyuna Country State Park, up near Ironton. Home to at least one filled-in iron mine which, in its glory days, helped forge American greatness. Particularly because Cuyuna range ores had a natural occurence of manganese, essential for tougher-type steels, which steelmakers in Pittsburgh and Youngstown were especially fond of.
One of the park rangers who also has a fondness for leading dive tours into the pit remarked at just how remarkably clear the waters were for an abandoned iron mine of some 100 feet deep--and how could our lupine divers resist? Or yours truly, even?

Story masterlist
Valkyrie, or simply Val, watched the entire thing unfold before her eyes and was helpless to stop any of it. All of it. All she could do was watch. Much like one would watch a train accident happen before their very eyes.
She had tried. In truth she had.
However, Sarah was the Queen Mother and Val was a member of the Royal Guard.
There was little she could do.
“Your Majesty,” she purred one last time, in one last attempt to save a situation that she knew deep in her heart was not going to go well at all. “Perhaps you would prefer to go inside and I’ll bring them into the reception area?”
Everything was wrong. So very wrong.
Outside the palace was normally empty.
As it was located in the center of the capital. An old historic building from imperial days that covered numerous city blocks, was where the government was run and where King Steven resided. Press knew better than to hang around outside the imposing palace gates as the king never left out them and was uninterested in opportunities to have his picture taken. As did the Queen Mother.
And yet, that morning, a whole gaggle of photographers were lined up and waiting for the visiting royals. Or so they had shared with Val.
Her Grace, Hope van Dyne, never went anywhere without getting her picture taken. In Val’s opinion, she probably had the phone number to every tabloid office in the world.
Sarah’s voice was kind. Soft. Gentle. It made Val want to wrap her queen up in a blanket and make her go inside so she could deal with their unwelcome guests. She stood beside Val at the top of the steps of the palace, provided with a great view of the black sedan that had pulled in through the gates. The flashiest possible way to enter the palace instead of through the underground garage like everyone else.
“Oh no. That’s hardly necessary. They wanted a scene. Let us give them one.”
Not liking the sounds of that at all, her brown eyes flickered over to look at the slim woman with a head of artfully styled strawberry blonde curls, a button nose and rose petal lips. She was every bit as regal as her title, even if she had not a drop of royal blood in her body.
“You can’t think that they actually called the press to say that the Duchess Hope was the woman with His Majesty on the video from the royal banya?”
Sarah’s cool blue gaze flickered to her royal bodyguard before returning back to the sedan so she could observe her former friend climb out, followed by her raven-haired daughter who waved to the photographers on the other side of the iron gates.
That was exactly what Sarah suspected the second she’d seen it in the morning paper. Though she doubted she would ever find out who had started that rumor.
“Have you found out why they’re here?”
Grimacing, Valkyrie shook her head, unhappy to not have an answer for her queen beneath the cloudy chilly winter day. “Not yet Your Majesty. We have reached out to the Maharaja’s Staff and are waiting to hear back. Soon though we suspect.”
Any second now Val hoped her phone would ring so she could tell the queen.
Which led to Sarah turning her head to look away from her guests as they climbed the stairs. She looked away from the large fountain that the sleek luxury car was parked beside and gave her last true smile for what she suspected would be till lunch. Reaching out, she placed her hand on Valkyrie’s wrist. One of her preferred bodyguards. She’d been loyal and had on two occasions nearly given her life in service of her country. “I trust you will find out and inform me as soon as possible. Do not fret. I doubt they will be leaving anytime in the near future.”
Only a lifetime of service kept Val from cracking a smile.
Instead, her dark eyes watched the silver haired Queen of the Netherlands climb the steps towards them. Smiling. Dressed expensively with a heavy coat made from numerous small furry animals.
Queen Janet van Dyne approached as if it hadn’t been years. She came to stand beside Sarah and greet her in such a way that would make for a perfect picture. Or so Sarah noticed. She greeted her as if they were still friends who spoke frequently on the phone and still sent one another gifts. As if their children had married and everything was fine.
“Sarah! How wonderful to see you, you have not aged a day.”
Janet reached out with gloved hands trimmed in mink, leaned forward to place a polite kiss on Sarah’s cheek in greeting and was more than a little surprised when Sarah stepped away. Her own hands remaining clasped in front of her and out of Janet’s. Greeting or otherwise.
“Janet,” was all that came from Sarah’s mouth. A look went from Janet’s coat down to her dress and then shoes, pausing there before coming back up. “Is that the dress you wore to Lizzie’s grandson’s wedding?”
Surprised by the greeting, or lack thereof, Janet paused and then smiled brightly, knowing that though the cameras could not hear them they could capture this image on film. “Yes. We’re focusing on becoming sustainable out in the west. Going green isn’t merely a project meant as royal busywork.”
Sarah could actually feel Valkyrie stiffen beside her at mention of the Green Initiative that Steve had tasked her with and had been far from busywork. It was something that Sarah could go on and on about, one of her many efforts that she busied herself with and yet, she found she didn’t want to expend that much energy on her once friend.
Hands still in front of her, fingers laced together where she could feel her wedding band. Sarah tilted her head slightly to the side. “I wouldn’t know. We remain a governing monarchy here.”
Janet blanched. Her lips formed a straight line, nearly as straight as the way her spine stiffened.
Though Sarah was unable to enjoy it as she turned her attention to the daughter. Hope van Dyne. Formerly Princess Hope but now Duchess Hope, after having been stripped of her title and recently reinstated to a lesser one, in Sarah’s opinion anyway.
Hope looked lovely as ever.
Tanned. Dressed exceptionally well. Smiling exuberantly.
It almost warmed Sarah’s icy heart.
“Sarah! How are you? You look wonderful!” Exclaimed Hope, sounding genuinely thrilled to see the woman who might have been her mother-in-law had things gone differently. She stepped on up with outstretched arms and was greeted with a serene face that looked at her in confusion.
Sarah said nothing. Not a word. Sarah maintained eye contact and looked at Hope as if waiting for the younger woman to say or do something.
Thus leading to Hope blinking in confusion and lowering her arms, looking to her mother for assistance as this clearly was not the welcome she expected.
“Is something wrong,” Hope asked a bit nervously as a winter breeze ruffled the fur on her mother’s coat. Sneaking under the cashmere of her own, as she hadn’t had time to properly shop for winter here. This was her mother’s idea. It was her last hope. Her father had refused to hear her and not even her mother could plead her case this time. This was it.
“I was about to ask you the same.”
Val watched Hope’s confusion and fought hard to not say anything at all, and it was becoming painful to watch in her opinion. Her gaze veered over to all the photographers that were watching more than taking pictures. Even they seemed to realize this visit was not starting off smoothly.
“I’m-I’m sorry?”
Val risked a look over at her queen. Her queen who was peering at the young woman who had referred to Val’s people as ‘war criminals’ or ‘superstitious backwoods fools.’
Unable to take another moment of it, Valkyrie cleared her throat.
Finally making Sarah take mercy on Hope who really should have known better in her opinion. “In civilized societies, a duchess would curtsey to a queen. Perhaps things are different for those who are merely ceremonial in purpose.”

Someone called your name and for a second, you were terrified that Wanda had come for your ass.
Not that you could blame the best friend you’d had since high school.
Upon heading into the offices of the royal palace that morning, you had intentionally avoided her , secure in the knowledge that she was pissed at you and you really did not want to have the fight you knew was coming someplace public like the office.
So, you’d been groveling via text and promising to go out with her that night for a girls night, swearing on your honor that you would tell her everything! Because Wanda was no fool.
Wanda saw the new dress you had on. Wanda saw your new shoes. Wanda noticed your perfect makeup and styled hair. Wanda also brought up the facts that you’d not been home that night or early morning, as well as the crucial one regarding your flatiron that was still in the bathroom the two of you shared.
Needless to say, you had a lot of explaining to do.
There was no getting around it. You were going to have to tell her about Steve. Sure, you’d swear her to secrecy until everything came out. The palace had made its announcement this morning about King Steven being in a relationship that he would make public soon. A second public statement had come from the Palace PR Guru, Maria Hill, stating that without a doubt, the king was not involved with Duchess Hope after a few rumors had burnt their way through the palace and news cycles.
Besides, Wanda should know. Wanda deserved to know. You and Wanda had come on this adventure post university together. Wanda had to know before it came out in the form of an official palace announcement, or else Wanda might very well skin you alive.
Hearing your name on a female tongue had you snapping up, your attention diverted away from the emails you were checking.
Wanda?
No.
It was not Wanda.
It was an Indian woman in a well-tailored pantsuit. Her dark hair was swept up in a chignon. Her lips a shade of red that had you lowkey thinking about asking for the name and shade of said lipstick. Her dark eyes bore right through you. As if spearing you from your chair and to the wall of your office.
“You are the King’s Chief of Staff?”
While your natural first instinct was to report that was what it said on your door. Professional-you put the kibosh on that right away. Inner you was somewhat intimidated by this powerful woman who looked as if she knew your every last secret.
Head held high this woman so informed you in a tone that let you know she was here for nothing less. “The Maharaja has sent us. Duchess Hope of the Netherlands has stolen from us and is here with the intention of pleading political asylum. While the Maharaja would like nothing more than to have her brought back for trial of the theft of our priceless treasures. I will settle for what was taken and no less.”
Ok. Well. Maybe you thought too soon.
Maybe Wanda was preferrable over this person.
“Oh…goody…” came from your lips with a frown.
“General Odinson sent me here. He told me that you would be able to help resolve this issue for me post haste.”
Oh of course General Fucking Thor Odinson would send this person your way so he didn’t have to deal with this international nightmare of an incident.
Letting out a deep breath, you held up a finger. “Let me just send this out real quick…what’s your name?” And you typed as quickly as humanly possible on your encrypted laptop.
“Ekta. I am with the Maharaja’s Royal Guard.”
Because of course she was. Why wouldn’t she be? Why wouldn’t Hope have stolen from the Maharaja and bounced? Though you’d never had the pleasure of meeting her face to face, you’d heard more than your share about the infamous Duchess, then Princess, Hope.
Typing. Typing. Typing.
“You’ve got any pictures or detailed descriptions of what the items stolen look like? I’m sure His Majesty will be very curious. And, you know, the more information of what we’re looking for the better.”
And done.
With a tap on your laptop, you’d sent out an email to the Finance Minister. Then up you stood.
“Of course,” Ekta answered coolly.
Not that you blamed her. If you were in her shoes, you would have been super pissed off too. Being robbed was never fun.
“Let’s go see if we can track down His Majesty. If not, we’ll make an appointment with his secretary and then go see who is in the office of our Royal Guard. Someone is always in there and I know that Carol, she’s Captain of the Guard, is working right now.” You explained, as if you felt that telling this unhappy woman all these things could somehow make everything right. Probably not. But you still had to try. It was in your nature to fix problems and you most definitely wanted to fix this problem.
Ekta said nothing.
She merely followed you out of your office and into the hallway which was lined with doors and walls of tasteful and probably expensive original art.
You looked to the left.
Then to the right and nearly died then and there at your luck.
How had you gotten so lucky?
There, mere feet away and closing, was not just Carol but His Majesty, deep in discussion about something that was irritating them both.
You had an inkling that you knew what was at the heart of their discussion.
The sight of you made them stop talking and pause in their tracks, which told you that you had been the one that they were seeking.
Before anything could be done, you bowed. “Your Majesty, just the person I was hoping to find.” Up you flourished your hand to gesture at Ekta, who you could feel was beside you, practically putting off rays of righteousness. “We have a visitor from the Maharaja’s Royal Guard. This is Ekta. She is here because of something that concerns the Duchess Hope.”
The reaction that came was almost immediate from both Steve and Carol.
A look as if Steve had suddenly smelled a dead animal came over his face. Carol however cocked her hip to the side, lifted her chin in a dark blue pantsuit, almost demanding in a knowing sort of way. “What’d she steal from you guys? Art or jewelry?”
For the first time ever, you noted a moment of Ekta’s veneer breaking. Like she was taken off balance. “The duchess stole from you too?” Then, almost as an afterthought came, “Your Majesty?”
And this was news to you too.
You had no idea that Hope had taken souvenirs with her that weren’t free to take when she fled the Royal Palace for India all those years ago.
When Steve spoke, his teeth were clearly clenched together. “Yes. Both. She raided my mother’s room as well as the halls for art and pieces that are priceless. Sacred treasures from my countries history that can never be replaced. She filled her suitcase with on her way out.”
“Every now and then an item will appear on the black market. We can only assume that she is selling them when she is in need of money.” Carol helpfully added.
Beside you, you could practically feel Ekta tremble. Shake out of control one could say.
“Is the Duchess Hope here?”
For that you had no answer.
Carol however had one. “Yes. Her Majesty is taking tea out in the gardens with the Duchess Hope and her own mother.”
After being brought abreast of that development, you had a statement to make. One you thought was obvious. But none-the-less, out it came. Maybe none of them knew? “It’s snowing outside.”
Thus leading Steve to turn his attention on you. Finally. And when he did so, he looked at you as if you were only his Chief of Staff. He looked at you kindly without the heat in his eyes from earlier that morning, when he’d woken you up by pushing himself deep into your body until the both of you reached a climax that made your eyes cross and left an impression of his teeth broken into your shoulder.
“Yes. Mother wanted to be sure that the Duchess Hope did not steal anything else from within the palace walls whilst they are here.”
Well then.
Even you had to admit. The Queen Mother could be downright frosty when the occasion called for it. Pun intended.
“She’s having tea with Queen Janet and Duchess Hope outside? In the frigid temperatures?”
You couldn’t quite make yourself believe it. You blinked. You looked from Steve who appeared casual after his statement, like he just told you the winters here were cold. Over to Carol who was pulling out her phone from her pocket. Acting like you hadn’t said anything out of the normal.
“Your Majesty, I’ll take care of Ekta and deal with this issue. If anything arrives concerning this issue. I will contact you. Nakia will come fill my place today.”
If Steve was greatly upset by any of his, he made no outward indication of it other than a nod of his head that he both heard and understood and accepted what Carol had told him. His attention was instead focused on you.
“I have a meeting concerning the Switzerland trip about the proposed embassy. Go get your notes. You’ll be joining me.”
***
Her Grace, the Duchess Hope van Dyne, had finally made it in the palace after that psycho, the Queen Mother Sarah, had the audacity to serve tea in the garden as flakes of snow drifted down. And if that weren’t barbaric enough, afterwards, she then led them around the winter garden as if Hope gave a damn.
Hope had problems and Queen Sarah was not very receptive to any of her attempts to thaw the ice that had formed around Sarah’s heart. Nor did her mother, Janet, have much luck.
When did Sarah turn into such a bitch?
Sarah should have been ecstatic that Hope would even return to this shithole. Sarah’s son was still single, he needed a queen and his backwoods hovel wanted a queen and Hope had royal blood. What more did Sarah need? Did she need it written down?
When did Sarah turn into such a horrible host?
Hope remembered a distinctively different Sarah. When she had lived in this palace, Steve’s mother had coddled her, practically waited on her hand and foot to be sure that Hope was happy and settling in so far from civilization. Where was that Sarah now?
Somehow, Hope had managed to break away, pleading a need to use the powder room around the time her toes and fingers went numb. As she hadn’t had the time to properly shop for clothes to wear in this frigid shithole. India had been so gloriously warm. She’d loved India. Hope would have loved to stay there but things had gone south.
Eventually, like everything else, it’d blow over.
Until then though, she needed someplace safe to stay. She needed to stay somewhere that the Maharaja couldn’t get her. What she needed was diplomatic immunity. However, that wasn’t going to happen since her father refused to even see her, so she’d just have to settle for sovereign immunity. Granted, Hope hadn’t expected it to be this difficult to see Steven and tell him that she was ready to get married now. For crying out loud, he should have been groveling at her feet for her to come back to him. Especially after that sex tape which had been burning up the internet and royal circles. If there was anything that Hope could do, it was bounce back from a scandal.
This was just ridiculous.
The Queen Mother should have been inviting them to this lunch with her son, instead of practically throwing Hope and Janet out. Which was exactly why Hope was wandering the halls in the search for Steven’s office. Toes tingling in her fashionable pumps. Her fingers burning from the warm air in the administrative offices.
Hope would need a whole new wardrobe once she got Steven onboard with her plan. As his current plan of ignoring the sex tape was absurd. These things needed to be tackled head on. With her as his queen by his side, Hope could handle all of it.
Ah, she found herself pleased at the sight of the royal seal over a doorway marking it as the king’s office.
Valkyrie followed her closely. That bitch.
As soon as Hope was queen, she’d be one of the first on the firing block. Following her around like some manner of commoner who might fill their pockets with royal gold. It was absurd. Hope was born a princess and one day she would become one again.
Hope remembered Valkyrie from when she was a young member of the guard and now, she was a Captain and just as irreprehensible as Carol, who Hope also despised. Both of them had to go. Reaching out with a hand that held a ring belonging to the sister of the Maharaja, Hope opened the door and marched right into the office of Steven’s secretary. Who was apparently gone for lunch.
Not that the room was empty.
Nakia, who had been seated on a couch in the office, stood. Dressed in a dark blue suit that all the royal guard wore. Her face stony at the sight of Hope and then darkened further in disgust. She stood tall. Regally. Holding her head high when she spoke down to the former princess. “The king is busy.”
Not that Hope would settle for anything less than seeing Steven in person immediately. She stepped forward. “The king is having lunch with his mother in fifteen minutes. I know for a fact he’s not doing anything of importance. Get out of my way, or I’ll have you selling souvenirs from a cart outside the palace when I am queen.”
At such a statement, Nakia found herself wanting to both laugh and spit in the face of this western woman. One who had referred to her people and country as little more than a backwoods hellhole full of illiterate stone pounders.
How often Nakia had dreamt of being so close to the Duchess Hope, how she thought of ripping out this woman’s forked tongue.
“Let her in,” came Valkyrie’s voice in their native tongue from the eastern regions of the land.
Sending Nakia’s dark eyes past Hope. A knowing expression claimed her features. “His Majesty is in there waiting for our queen.”
A shrug came from the senior guardswoman.
Nakia would be the first to admit, she had not been hopeful when the crown prince had been coronated as a teenager. No one in the country had been particularly hopeful but now, nearly everyone supported their king. His Majesty was a good king who served them all as much as they served him.
Nakia was protective of her king. She wanted her king to marry his Chief of Staff yesterday. Her land was in need of a queen, a woman’s touch one could say.
Knowing what was at stake with the coming lunch that her king would attend with his mother and lover, a visit from the Duchess Hope would not put him in the best of moods. The Queen Mother always grew quiet when King Steven was in such a mood. Why would Nakia allow such a thing to happen?
“Perhaps if he tells her she isn’t wanted here she’ll leave sooner? Let her in. That is an order.”
Pursing her lips unhappily, Nakia stepped back.
She wasn’t about to open the door to His Majesty’s office for this interloper. However, she would no longer stand in the way. Nakia even made sure to send a look that screamed impending homicidal violence. Spurring Hope quickly through the door without another syllable directed at Nakia.
Which was fine with Hope.
Hope couldn’t get away from Nakia quick enough.
Wanting distance sent Hope into the king’s large office without much thought. Looking as if it belonged in an old Victorian estate with dark wood, so many books, old art and thick dark Turkish Rugs.
What Hope did not expect was how much the prince had grown.
No longer a gangly young man whose mother had to have padding sewn into the robes that he was coronated in. This man sitting at his desk was big in every way. Exuding power in a manner that most could only dream and for a second, seeing Steven look at her with shocking blue eyes and stubble darkening his face, she was rendered speechless.
“What do you want Hope,” came Steven’s voice, more than a little annoyed. Far more emotion than she’d ever seen from the young man. Who was now very obviously a man.
This was not the Steven she remembered.
Before her was not the young man she remembered at all. Every last bit of him was very much a king and Hope suddenly, possibly for the first time in her life, found herself regretting many of the past choices she made. It seemed her mother was right. She’d been far too hasty in her youth. Her mother had told her that the prince would mature like a fine wine. Hope had written that off as nonsense meant to trap her into an arranged marriage like so many women before her.
Now?
Now she was looking at a tall powerful man close a very modern looking laptop and turn his attention on her in such a way that made her gut coil. What would it have been like to be the woman in the video? And where the hell did that thought come from? She had been wrong. So so very wrong.
Finally, gathering herself, Hope peered around the office and fussed at the pearl buttons on her coat. “I saw the video…” A noise came from Steven that she’d never heard before, yet, she went on. “…and since we’re still technically engaged, I thought I would return to help you put out the fires of this scandal.”
Another noise came from the king, a derisive snort.
“Wow. That’s cute. Highly amusing coming from you.” Though there was no hint of heat or passion in his words that had been so evident on that video. In her opinion, he didn’t even sound bored. Worse. Steven then leaned back in his seat, peered around her and asked, “Who let you in here?”
Those words, those uncaring words as if she were little more than the two guards outside his office made her burn, bristle.
Which had Hope clearing her throat, bristling one could say. “Actually, it’s more than cute. If you recall, I come from a distinguished royal house. Our engagement is a legally binding agreement.”
For the reaction she got, she might as well have told him it was showing outside.
As she was prone to when there was silence that needed to be filled, Hope pushed the waves of dark hair over her shoulder. She shifted from one foot to the other and watched Steven lean back in his chair.
Finally, as if sensing that she wasn’t going to leave, Steve offered her a shrug. Finding the mere sight of her numbing. He could have cared less what she did one way or the other. So long as she stayed out of his room. He had valuable things in there that he was fond of. “I’m not marrying you. Do with that as you will, you’ll find no sanctuary here.”
This was most certainly not the Steven that she had left all those years ago. It took Hope a second to collect herself, to steel herself. No one had spoken to her in such a way in quite a while. Her brain screamed at her that damage control needed to be done but she was not sure how. In what way? What did she say?
Hope’s brain screamed at her that the plan was failing, everything was going wrong. This was not supposed to happen this way and now she was failing horrendously. What did she do? How could she fix this?
Pricks of pain came from her fists as her nails dug into her palms. Telling Hope that when she unclenched her fists, she would see blood. “You have to marry me!”
Oh this was bad.
This was really really bad.
Across the expanse of his desk, Steve remained calm. Almost to the point of uncaring and such demeanor was reflected in his words. In the way his broad shoulders shrugged and how he rubbed his rough cheek, as if that were more interesting.
“I do not need or want your assistance for anything, forget that video. There is no reason for me to be ashamed of it.”
“Steven! Listen!”
He could see the desperation on her face, hear it in her voice and after so long, he wished he could say that it was rewarding. He wished that he could say it made him feel better after everything that had happened.
It didn’t.
There was just nothing. Little more than cold numbness. Steve felt absolutely nothing.
Nothing was there anymore.
When he looked at Hope there was nothingness.
It reminded him of his father. He hated when he felt that way, when he thought of his father. There was no one on this earth that Steve loathed more. It was his very purpose for being, to not be his father. To end that cycle. To let it die with him.
Most irritably, he shifted in his seat. His eyes found the picture of you both on his desk from a trip to Scotland.
Hints of his father swirled with every syllable only furthering his inner revulsion with himself, his genes and heritage.
“When you left, I did not officially break our engagement as a common courtesy to your father. No more no less. I am a king. You cannot compel me to do anything.”
Pools of blue found Hope again though. A little bit of serene malice hovered between them.
“If you continue to be an annoyance, I will. I am a king now. I have a country to govern. I do not have time for the childish games and pursuits that occupy the western families.”
“Steven this is serious! I could go to prison! In India!”
May his ancestors help him, his first initial response would have been to remind her of her place, remind her of how he should be addressed.
His Majesty.
Exactly as his father would, he swore he heard his father’s voice in his ear.
“You have to help me out! I’m begging you! I don’t care about that other woman. You can have all the mistresses you want!”
A peek down at his watch told Steve that he had minutes to wrap this up and go collect you. Minutes. He had minutes to regain his sanity before he saw his mother.
Minutes.
“Steven!”
Standing from his chair, he shook his head. Doing his best to silence the sound of his father telling him he was not good enough, was not worthy, was not fit to rule. His voice was soft because Steve would not yell like that man. “No Hope. I’m sorry, but no. You remind me of my father. You make me feel like him. You bring him back to life and I cannot live with his ghost. So no. You will have to deal with the consequences of your actions like the rest of us.”
Her eyes went wild.
Steve could see it and was glad he wasn’t within reach of her. He watched her grab a Fabergé Egg from the end of his desk.
Colorful glass accented in gold with rubies around the middle. It fit in her hand but only just, being the size of an ostrich egg and then it went soaring through the air where it smashed loudly into a wall. Denting the dark wood and shattering. Smashing into dozens and dozens of colorful pieces that fell to the floor.
Having felt the very loss of hope itself, she turned to set her storm on him. “You’ll regret this, Your Majesty.” Before turning and leaving, slamming his office door behind her as hard as possible. Leaving Steve with the sound of his father telling him that he wasn’t worthy.

Lipstick?
No lipstick?
It was a question for the ages.
A swipe or two of lipstick always gave you the courage you needed in any occasion. But then again, this was not merely any occasion. This was lunch with your boyfriends mother to officially meet her and get to know her, because you were in a serious committed relationship with her son. Because you loved her son.
Oh, and her son was the king, so there were expectations on that already plus with her being the Queen Mother, that was sorta already an expectation of its own.
Lipstick?
No lipstick?
You wanted to look your best because the Queen Mother always looked immaculate. But you also didn’t want to risk getting lipstick on your teeth. Leading you to peer once more into the bathroom mirror.
No. No lipstick. If you put on lipstick you’d be thinking about your lipstick and you needed to focus on making a good impression.
Otherwise, your makeup looked fabulous. Really. Five stars. Two thumbs up.
This had you stuffing your makeup back into your purse and kinda sorta looking up when the bathroom door opened, shut and was locked. Because really. Why would the door be locking?
In the art deco styled bathroom, Steve’s form was very clear and your eyebrows shot up.
Luckily, you were alone, considering how beyond pissed off he looked. One hundred and ten percent not fit to have lunch with his mother. Not with him in this condition.
You had no idea what happened, but something had happened.
He crossed the red and white marble tiled floor. Walked past the gilded edged stalls and stained-glass doors to where you stood at one of four sinks with bronze fixtures and ornately framed mirrors.
To be honest, it was your favorite bathroom of all time. Your Instagram was full of pictures of this bathroom, selfies in this bathroom, up-close pictures of the stained glass.
“Are you ok?”
Beneath his smoothly shaven face, his jaw twitched. “Fine. Are you ready?”
He was tense enough you wouldn’t have been shocked if his joints started to pop, or his teeth cracked from how hard he was clenching his jaw.
Seeing him like this was a no go for Queen Sarah. Everyone knew that she hated to see her son like this and at first you never knew why, not until someone had told you that her husband had the same mannerisms. Steve’s father done the same thing when he had been angry.
While it was common knowledge that Steve was not his father, Steve would never hit his mother.
Some memories could just never be wiped clean.
Having Steve like this was not how you wanted this first lunch with his mother to go. Not one bit. Both of them needed to be on cloud fucking nine. Meaning you were going to have to do something.
“Almost,” was what you told him. A plan already set into motion as you grabbed a few paper towels from the bronze dish that held them between sinks.
One last peek at your hair and you were set. Purse in hand. You stepped on over to press your lips to the flat firm line that was Steve’s mouth. “Could you hold this for me?”
Steve never questioned you or thought twice.
Whether it was from love or trust, or he was too angry over whatever? No one would ever know.
But you seized the moment! Pounced on the opportunity.
You acted as if you were going to check your pumps and instead, set down the paper towels so you could kneel at his feet. Before Steve even had a second to think about it, you had his pants unbuttoned, unzipped and down around his knees. Knowing that the king went commando that morning worked seamlessly into your plan.
His dick hung softly between his muscular creamy thighs.
“What are you doing?”
“Hold my purse with both hands, Your Majesty.”
Though soft, his size was still above average. His penis was solid. Thick. A pink tip peeked out beneath foreskin that was stretched over his member. Soft as velvet, you kissed his slit as you pushed his foreskin up to reveal his shaft.
“Remember the first time I ever saw your dick?”
You sank down on his soft flesh after, sucking him in till nearly all of him fit in your mouth. It rarely happened. Only when he wasn’t erect. When Steve was erect, it wasn’t physically possible unless you unhinged your jaw and didn’t have a gag reflex.
“Oh god…” he gasped out at the warm and wet sensation of your mouth closing around him. Cold air on his ass cheeks. Exposed. Vulnerable. His sac hanging heavy and you down on your knees, taking nearly all of him in your mouth.
Steve clung to your purse like a lifeline.
Thinking back, you hummed out thoughtfully, knowing how fantastic the vibrations felt on him. Knowing that the warm softness that was his dick would soon harden. Until then, you enjoyed how you could take him like this. You relished the smell of him, musky and male. Savored how smooth his skin was on your tongue. Reached up and cupped his testicles that hung down for you.
It’d been at a fundraiser.
A black-tie affair for something or another, who could remember?
The two of you had stolen away towards the end, snuck off when everyone was mingling together and socializing. Slightly tipsy or buzzed from the open bar.
Not the two of you.
No.
Both of you had barely drank. Focused instead on getting away so you could steal some moments together. Moments like these. Moments where your hands were all over one another, your mouths hungry for one another. Frantic for that connection between your bodies that nature demanded and you both were trying so hard to make happen.
Tonight was the night though.
You were determined.
Sucking him deep. Swirling your tongue around him. You could feel Steve starting to thicken up which had you popping off his mouth and surveying the sight of his dick taking on a pinkish hue as blood filled it.
“Are you thinking about it, Your Majesty? About how fucking big your cock is? About how it shocked me? Remember?”
Based alone on the sound that came from Steve, you could deduce that he remembered. Possibly even vividly.
“I remember,” you cooed, licking his pink head and suckling on the end of his dick. Flicking against the hole with your tongue. Massaging his balls. Taking his hardening shaft in your other hand. Needing him to feel only you. Needing him to be here with you. “It was the biggest dick I’d ever seen in my life.”
”You don’t have to.” He had whispered to you in a dark corner of the atrium. Hidden by plants and furniture.
Not that you’d cared.
By that point he had gone down on your countless times and you’d never seen it. Only feeling it through his pants when you’d made-out or groped him, when your bodies rubbed against one another in a frantic urge for completion.
“Jesus Christ Steve! You’re the only man I know who doesn’t want his dick sucked.”
“It’s not that…” he came back with, pausing and finally giving in, allowing you to unzip the black pants of his tux and yank them down. Pull them down and out it popped.
Erect.
Hard. So hard.
Foreskin drawn back to reveal an angry red head smeared with pre-cum.
It was massive, a beast, the hugest dick you’d ever laid eyes on and from on your knees, in a ballgown, made up to feel like a princess. You gasped. You straight up gasped like you were a teenage girl seeing your very first penis. Albeit, the one that was so full of blood it bobbed eye level with you, pointing upwards, was considerably more impressive and probably five inches longer than that first ever dick, easy. As you didn’t exactly have a tape measure on you for comparison.
“Oh my god…” you whispered, well aware that your eyes were wide and mouth was very likely a perfect O. “It’s so big! It’s like the biggest I’ve ever seen! Steve your dick is huge! What do you feed it?”
His voice was a bit concerned. Embarrassed even?
Was he embarrassed about this behemoth in his pants?
“I’m sorry, I know. It can be uncomfortable to give me oral sex. You really don’t have to. I don’t expect.”
But you had cut him off with grabby hands wrapping around his erection, pushing up his foreskin and licking the salty jizz that was starting to ooze out. “Shut up, Your Majesty. Tell me how you want it.” In your ministrations you had lifted up his generous manhood and set eyes upon the heavy balls that hung down between his thighs. “Holy Canada! You have a set of balls to match. You have no idea how much fun I’m going to have fitting those in my mouth.”
When you finally ripped your eyes away from his sexual organ, you shook your head and admonished him severely. “I cannot believe you’d keep this from me!”
Exactly how you knew Steve liked, you sucked on his head and played with the tip of your tongue on his hole. You took him as deep as you could as his erection grew harder and harder in your mouth. Tracing your tongue along the sides and pumping him with your hand until his girth grew so wide, you were unable to touch your fingertips around him.
Up and down you sank on his cock. Till he was rigid beneath your lips and you drug your teeth along at times to heighten the sensation.
Slurping. Squeezing his balls. Hollowing out your cheeks and swallowing any salty release that began to dribble out. You savored the sight of his fingers clenching your purse tightly and his eyes screwed shut.
Between languid trips up and down his length, you pulled off to lick his blunt tip with the flat of your tongue.
“What are you thinking about, My King?”
At first, you didn’t think he would or could answer, which was fine. Your attention was on the round edge of his organ. Licking it. Flicking it with your tongue. Playing with it till you sank back down.
After a few seconds.
After a deep breath from Steve.
After that, he managed to get out.
“Thinking about that night. The night I took your maidenhead.”
Your maidenhead?
Well, that was a trip to past. It sent your eyes up and your mouth back off him so you could speak without a mouth full of dick. “Mmm. Thinking about how you went crazy? How you went all feral and popped my cherry?”
In your hand his penis twitched.
It was too perfect an opportunity to not pounce upon it.
If you couldn’t make him come from saying these filthy disgusting true things to him, did you really deserve to marry this man? “Your Majesty? Does it turn you on to think about my having been a virgin? About how you’re the only man to ever be in my body? Do you remember how tight I was? How hard you had to push to break my hymen?”
Little motions came from Steve. Whether he knew it or not. He was making small thrusts into your mouth that you hummed around, sucked on.
Something hit the floor.
Hands were on your head, fingers were in your hair. A wicked smile curled over your lips and Steve was methodically pumping into your mouth.
He sounded strained. He sounded like he was in pain.
“Felt so good. You’re so good to me. My angel. You were so tight.” He declared, announced, would have shouted to the heavens if he was capable. Each word came out in cadence. Almost in a chant. “Felt so good. Feels so good still. You’re mine. You’re mine. You’re mine.” On top of feeling you sucking him deep. Paired with your fingers holding his testicles tight. Mixed with your fist wrapped around his base. It was a glorious storm coming together to make him shatter.
Steve was going to come. He was going to come like right now.
It sent his thoughts spiraling along with his words.
“Love you. Love your body. Love being in you. So warm and tight and mine. All mine. All of you is mine. Want you. Want to fill you. Want want want.”
Gasping out. His breath gone. All air left his lungs when Steve climaxed into your mouth. A pitched noise did come that was followed with his fingers pulling your face against him, his pelvis pushing into you. A moan that made him weak in the knees followed that told him you were pleased with him. You were happy.
If he died in the next moment, he would have been a happy man.
All Steve could feel was pleasure. It consumed him body. It whited out his mind. It made his balls empty into the warmth of your mouth, till he was certain that nothing remained.
Even then you weren’t done.
Helpless. Awestruck.
Hopelessly devoted, Steve watched you drag your tongue around him to clean him up. Catching the last few spurts of ejaculate on your tongue before you showed him, then swallowed his seed.
Rendering him panting and sweaty.
He dropped down onto his knees and he kissed you. Mindless. Unable to think about anything else other than your mouth and being lucky enough to have convinced you to be his woman. Steve kissed you deeply, uncaring about the fact he could taste himself, unconcerned when his tongue curled around yours that he might have gotten some of his own ejaculate. His Majesty didn’t care.
Nor was he overly concerned about his knees being on the cold marble tile when he groaned against your mouth. “Love you. Love you so much. Love you to the moon and back.”

ENG Letter from the Voivode Vlad Draguli Tepes of March 14, 1457. *** By content: This letter finally clarifies the political situation between Wallachia and Transylvania, which became the cause of the conflict in 1457 and later. However, to understand the situation, it is worth reading first two other documents, the first, the agreement between the parties, the terms of assistance, the second, the document of the request for help from the voivode. This document follows in this chain the third, interesting from the point of view of the conflict. After the voivode did not receive an answer, according to the agreement, he goes to the lands where the applicants for the throne of Wallachia and their accomplices are hiding. According to the agreement, if you remember, the party on whose land the applicant and his people are hiding, preferably, betrays (meets the voivode as a friend) intruders, or does not interfere with their search. Probably, the governor did not meet any assistance in Transylvania, which is not surprising, given this attitude. Having crossed the Turnu-Rosu pass and arriving at the places where the aforementioned gentlemen were hiding, but faced with complete indifference, the voivode made an attempt to persuade Transylvania to reckon with itself. The result of this was the burned villages of Kasholts, Khosman and Nou Romyn near the very Sibiu. For decades, Transylvania, which had been shaking the nerves of the governors of Wallachia, was literally shocked by such an act, unprecedented in its kind, so that echoes of indignation reached us in the form of pamphlets, legends, stories, where from year to year, from decade to decade, the number of “innocents” increases, just like the number of "victims". In those stories, it comes to the point where the death toll during that period significantly exceeds even the number of all who lived at that time in one of the largest cities in Transylvania, Brasov. What exactly prompted the governor to take such a decisive, long-needed step? Was it the indirect participation of Transylvania in all the coups in Wallachia?, the murder of his family?, an attempt on his own murder?. It is unlikely that the voivode was so restrained and patient that, having come to power “without any help,” he concludes a strong peace with Transylvania and approaches it very responsibly. This letter is also very interesting, with a phrase that some historians even interpret as a threat: “If you don’t want even more, then immediately inform us so that we can rule and govern”. However, from the point of view of the choice of vocabulary, "quod nos regere et gubern {are p} ossemus" is completely neutral and, speaking figuratively in modern words, has the following content: the voivode, being a ruler, will be able to begin to regulate the current situation only when he finds out about the further political course of his neighbor, Transylvania, and does not want to be in the dark about that, therefore he asks to inform about his decision. There is nothing else in this phrase, "reign and govern", "herrschen und lenken", in any translation, that is, to be the ruler and therefore to control the situation. For all that, few people focus on the fact that they tried to kill the governor in Transylvania when he needed help. They also pay little attention to the fact that the voivode expresses, albeit tactfully within the framework of necessary diplomacy, about his attitude to the origin of the applicant: “his infringement on our right of the true (!) Heir”, “a monk from Wallachia who calls himself a son voivode ", the latter is twice specially indicated. Given these moments, I personally cannot understand why Vlad The Monk is definitely considered the illegitimate child of Dragul, when among his sons his father is not mentioned anywhere in the documents, not even once, and one of the sons frankly says that the Monk is an impostor. In my opinion, Vlad Monk is another Neagoe Bassarab, of which, as we remember, there were plenty of them. With only one commander Dragulya Tepes, duplicated Mirchi, Vlada and
forged documents suddenly appeared. Letter from the governor Vlad Draguli Tepes dated March 14, 1457. *** Noble, prudent and far-sighted men, advisers, fathers, brothers, our sincerely dear friends and neighbors, as you remember, and you should be well aware of that, there is a commitment between us, and vows backed by unshakable loyalty have been taken; and these obligations and vows must not be violated by anyone and never, while we are alive, at any time, which we personally specifically pointed out to you in a letter. From our side of evil, we did not do you and did not intend to start that. But today a rumor has reached us and we have learned about all that, that at a secret council you were with the people of a monk from Wallachia, who calls himself the son of a governor *, settled their affairs; Moreover, Peter Gereb * from Virishmort, and Peterman *, the son of the noble Peterman, who were neighboring with you, took part in this. You were personally promised to transfer all the fees to you in Rukar and Brail for a long time, promising that Wallachia's income. * Remember the time when I wandered and arrived in your lands *, you then did not let me into your council, but instead, out of loyalty to the noble lord, the governor of these lands, Vladislav entrusted the noble men John Gereb from Wingard and Nicholas from Salzburg to capture us in the city of Joaju and to end us. But by the will of God, we ourselves were able to return our lands without any help *, but with you, we made a strong peace and thus made your enemies ours. Today we fully understand that you support a monk from Wallachia, who calls himself the son of a governor, and his people in an encroachment on our right to be a true heir, and we also understand what bad consequences for us everything can lead, since you are already Advice with him, and he, having made his way to Amlash, remained there, and is there to this day by your own will. Therefore, with this letter we ask each and every one of you that in the name of the God and according to the commandments of the Catholic faith, as well as for the sake of maintaining fraternal peace and friendship between us, after reading our letter, you will certainly write to us or report back, whether you wish further observe the order established by us and you in writing and be loyal to it. If you do not wish that more, then immediately inform us, so that we can rule and govern. Given in Targoviste on the second day after the feast of Blessed Pope Gregory, in the year 1457. Vlad, Commander of the Transalpine lands, your faithful brother, son and friend in everything. Comments: * Identity of Vlad the monk is speculative only. * Peter Gereb * from Virishmort was a judge and head of Sibiu in 1467, later he was executed in the city square because of his participation in the uprising against Corwin considered bloodthirsty). Peterman was a wealthy Sibiu merchant from Wallachia, Kampulung; the city was located on the trade route from Rukar to Brasov. The German-speaking community living there maintained close relations with Sibiu. * Fees from you in Rukar were the most important source of income for Wallachia, therefore they were never the object of donation or lease. Braila Port, located on the Danube, was the country's most important port and was of exceptional importance for trade in the western Black Sea region. The decision of the self-appointed claimant to take away the income from the country and give it to Transylvania was also unprecedented, his desire to curry favor was painfully strong. * After an unsuccessful attempt to regain legal power in November 1448, the voivode fled to Moldavia. However, there is no evidence that he was present at the court of Bogdan II. Perhaps he found refuge among the Moldovan boyars who were supporters of his family. Later, the voivode is forced to move to Transylvania, after Vladislav finds himself in the same situation as many voivods before him and therefore loses the support of the Hungarians. * Joaju (Rom. Geoagiu, ung. Algyógy) is located in the Hunedoara
Sudce, where the Hunyadi family owned vast estates and were surrounded by numerous supporters. The authors of the book Corpus Draculianum contradict themselves, first they write that the Hungarians removed Vladislav because of his pro-Ottoman policy, and then that the murder of the governor could have been ordered by Hunyadi, so that, literally: “Hunyadi wanted to prevent Vlad's attack on Vladislav, so as not to violate the truce with by the Ottomans ". Several different statements. And why would Vlad even then be in Joaju, "where the Hunyadi family owned vast estates and were surrounded by numerous supporters." Honestly, I am alarmed by the attempt of the authors of the book to constantly challenge the words of the voivode in the documents (I often notice in the comments, they say, “the voivode is misleading,” or “in fact, the reason was something else, and not indicated by the voivode” (they apparently, instead of the governor, they know much better what was the cause of what was in the 15th century, in this case the same example, after all, everything is written in black and white, who attempted and why) and suppose “their own” version. I do not know the purpose of such comments. An example, one of the many about challenging, openly refuting the words of the voivode in his letter with his statement, is the commentary on the phrase “But by the will of the Lord we ourselves were able to return our lands without any help.” In the commentary to this phrase, the authors of the aforementioned publication, the governor is accused of lying, citing a completely empty formal oath to Postumus in March 1456 and arguing that (as it turns out, it was not Hunyadi who wanted to kill, as they had previously stated) with the help of Hun eadi. In support of the versions, documents are cited that are not evidence of the indicated facts, even indirectly. In some comments, the authors of the publication accuse the voivode of issuing an ultimatum without offering any negotiations, and this is for this phrase: “Therefore, with this letter we ask each and every one of you that in the name of the Lord and according to the commandments of the Catholic faith, and also for the sake of maintaining fraternal peace and friendship between us (!), after reading our letter, you certainly wrote or reported to us (!) whether you want to continue to observe the order established by us and you in writing (!) and be loyal to it. If you do not wish that more, then immediately inform us, so that we can rule and rule. " I don’t know how even softer it is possible to write after an attempted murder, after a betrayal and a secret conspiracy, the ruler who previously concluded an agreement with you asks you to inform us about your preference in actions. I cannot understand what the authors are pursuing with such comments.
___________________________________________________________________________ Комментарии: *Идентификация личности Влада монаха лишь предположительная. Geoagiu, ung.

Hello friends and fellow Hedge Folk 💚
Just a quick foreword for this new blog I'm starting. Just so there's a sense of what it's about and so I keep the motivation to update it.
I have been interested in witchcraft since I was young, but I didn't become a serious witch until I was about 19/20. I've spent the past 7 years learning and growing within my craft and regardless of which paths I have gone down, nature has always been at the very heart of my magickal practice. I've always identified as a Green Witch.
At around 24/25, my best friend and I started exploring more rural areas of South Wales, our homeland. Then, around a year ago, I met my partner, and he's helped me get out and explore even more of our home country. It is a very green, mountainous place, located to the west of England and east across the Irish sea from Ireland. I used to be almost ashamed of being Welsh. I was born in and have lived in the capital city, Cardiff, since I was born. I spent near enough 24/25 years thinking Wales was a boring little country, neighboured by a much 'cooler' place... How wrong I was. Seeing Wales outside of Cardiff has drastically improved my relationship with the land of poetry and song. I am now finally proud to be Welsh.
In the last year and a half especially, I've been exploring celtic traditions and culture and its ties to witchcraft and magick. Over the last few months, I've been actively looking in to Druidry, which is a branch of ancient celtic tradition. Through Celtic practices, Druidic practices, and the places I have visited around my country, I have learned that Wales is absolutely BURSTING at the seems with magick. Over the last few weeks, I've started to feel drawn to Hedge Druidry. I was already drawn to Hedge Witchcraft, which is quite similar to it's druidic counterpart. In fact, Hedge Druidry and Druidry of all kinds turns out to be one of the main bases of witchcraft, wicca and paganism.
As I'm still researching, this blog will act as a place where I can keep links, descriptions, ideas, inspirations, research, findings and whatever else relates to Hedge Magick and practices of both Witchcraft and Druidism. Many people don't like to put a label on their practice as it's always changing, which I totally appreciate. For myself however, I truly feel that calling myself a hybrid hedge witch & druid makes sense for me. It's the most comfortable I've ever felt with a label and I've always had some form of label to identify myself with. Once it was emo, another time it was metalhead, another time after that, hippie... But enough of my ramblings! Welcome to my research process into Hedge Magick as a Welsh Hybrid Hedge Witch Druid (I will find a way to abbreviate this into a better shorthand name one day haha).
I hope anyone who stumbles on to this page finds solace here and that my findings and research may also help fellow potential hybrids of Witches and Druids understand themselves better!
There will be a heavy emphasis on celtic practices here, in both Witchcraft and Druidism. One of the biggest parts of my path now is to incorporate and connect with my ancestors (all three strands of ancestors, but more on that in another post!) and use my Welsh blood to ignite my native magick. There have been Druids in Wales for centuries. I want to honour our native earth and priests of nature, carrying on the tradition, whilst also incorporating my path as a witch within. I never thought I would ever have a practice as a hybrid, but jeez... It couldn't feel any more right in my entire being and energy!
Croseo i chi ffrindiau a'ch cyd-werin hudolus, bendigedig i chi i gyd 💚*

ACOSAS
Chapter 4
Happy Wednesday everyone! i apologize for the following chapter, it might be a little slow because i am trying to move some of the plot forward.
I will make it up to you guys with a Mor and Emerie one-shot that will come up later today or early tomorrow! Let me know if you want to be tagged in that.
As always, enjoy and let me know if you want to be tagged!
Warnings: Mentions of violence, anxiety attacks.
Gwyn had awoken at sunrise; she had dreamt of her sister again, the last two weeks had been a repetition of the dream. After the night she had accidentally made a bargain with Azriel, she had begun to cope with the weight of the dream much better.
She put on her Valkyrie leathers on, ignoring the need in her chest to knock at Azriel's door. The shadowsinger had been practically sleeping at her door each night, waiting for her to scream, talk or run out of the door startled.
Today was different, she had awoken conscious that what she had seen in her dream was not reality. She had decided once her eyes were open that she would not bother Azriel, even if his company helped ease the terror in her guts as she thought of the voice of her sister pleading and screaming.
Today, she had decided to go run at the beach.
Gwyn had grown accustomed to roam in the palace by herself, and even leave without anyone to the coliseum and the gardens. The palace at the top of the Lux city seemed to have no one around at any time; that made her feel comfortable, and safe.
Walking down the sidewalk towards the beach, Gwyn admires the view of the dawn's sky in the reflection of the salt-water. There was such beauty on the Day Court, the waters were clearer, the grass and trees fertile and strong, the animals seemed to have brighter colors in their skins. She did not remember much of her time in Sangravah, but she knew that unlike the Night and the Day court, the temple had lacked brightness and color. Or maybe that was just how her mind remembered, she didn't know.
The beach of Lux was as white as every wall in every corner of the city, the sand was soft, the seashells were pink and purple. She wondered how other courts did not become envious at the sight of such magnificent landscapes. Rhysand had the biggest court and Tarquin the best weather, but there was no doubt that Helion had built the court to be the best at everything else.
As she began stretching for her run, she heard the roaring sound of steps behind her. A spark lit up in her chest, hoping for a certain winged-male to come up behind her.
-I see the shadowsinger finally left your side- Amanecer said.
Disappointed, but happy to have some company, she looked at the female with bright eyes, - i think its the other way around, i finally left his side-
Amanecer took seat besides her, her training clothes were the color aesthetic of the court; white, gold and beige combined in her leathers. Her long locks were tied with a black band in the back of her head. -Do you mind if i train with you?- she said.
-Not at all, i am used to having someone around anyways-.
As they stretched, Gwyn began practicing some breathing exercises for long-distance training. Valkyries had developed different breathing patterns for different types of training; each one of them to control your mind and muscles to sustain whatever work they would be put under.
-When Helion mentioned you were training as a Valkyrie i did not believe him- Amanecer said, -It has been centuries since someone recognized them as warriors. After they were massacred, it was as if everyone forgot about them. I thought no one had any records of them, i see i was wrong-.
-Did you know them?- Gwyn asked.
Amanecer smiled, -my girlfriend was a Valkyrie, her name was Fortis, she was also from Lux; she worked in the court with Helion and my mother. I was able to train with the Valkyries, i studied with them and almost became one. -
-Why didn't you?-
-I tried, but i was not able to pass the final test- Amanecer responded.
Gwyn frowned, -I have not heard of a final test in the Valkyrie records i have-.
-That's because this court has most of the records, Helion was able to save their scrolls after they were massacred. We have them in a special part of this library-.
Gwyn felt her eyes open wide and her mouth gaping, -Can i see them?! I have been searching for more stories about them! I want to be able to honor them in our training back home-.
Amanecer's eyes found hers, her smile spreading as she heard Gwyn -I will take you there after we take our run- She said as she stood, - i will also teach you how to continue to focus on your breathing as you exercise, that will help your organs get stronger. It will help you channel the strength of your movements-. Amanecer began running as she finished her sentence, not looking back.
Gwyn followed her, writing down all the questions she would ask the female later in the morning in her mind.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
-Look at this bastard- someone said. -He believes he has the right to see the light, he should be kept here all day. No one should be able to see him, it would shame our family-.
Male laughter startled him a he opened his eyes.
He was ready to dream about it today, he always was ready.
But as his eyes opened in the dream he did not see himself kneeling in the ground looking up at his brothers; he was standing, looking down at a frail boy with long-curly hair and small broken wings.
The boy looked up, his honey-golden eyes and sharp features revealing the face of his brother.
Cassian was looking up to him, blood on his nose, his hands extended towards Azriel as voices besides him laughed.
Azriel heard a bump, and another body was placed besides Cassian. Long, dirty blonde hair and small female body keeled in front of him.
Mor.
Her brown eyes showed despair, they looked at him pleading. She trembled as she saw him.
Both kids looked at him with fear; their bodies bruised and bloody, their hands extended.
He realized as he moved his hands towards them that he was not in control of his own body. That these were not his actions.
In his right hand he had a lit up torch, in his left he had oil.
One male grabbed Cassians hand's, pullling towards Azriel.
Unable to do or say anything, he dropped oil on top Cassians hands, he neared the torch to his tiny hands...
As Cassian screamed in pain, Azriel tried and failed to stop, move away from his brother.
But he couldn't.
It wasn't long until he did the same to Mor, watching her fall into her knees as the pain of being burnt consumed her.
In his mind, he screamed and tried with all his might to move away from them, to stop inflicting pain.
But as Azriel saw Cassian's and Mor's hands being burnt to open flesh, he realized that he was in the body of one of his brothers. He was finally the monster he always thought himself to be.
Shooting upright Azriel lifted himself from the bed, startled and with tears in his eyes. He moved towards the bathroom, looking for cold water that would confirm this was real.
He remember how vivid and real that dream had been, the smell of the room, the feeling of the torch and the oil in his skin. As if the dream had been a reality.
But looking down to his hands he confirmed that it had been just that. A dream.
As he prepared himself a bath, he began recalling every instance of the dream. It had not been normal, the realistic feel, the fact that he was seeing Cassian and Mor so clearly.
He had met Mor as a teen, never as a child.
Something was wrong.
He had begun to suspected when Gwyn told him that the nightmares with her sister had continued, that they got more and more realistic as each night passed. As if with each passing night, the dreams became more the reality; and one day, neither of them would be able to awake from his nightmares.
Azriel had never dreamt of being the one inflicting pain. Whenever he dreamt about his brothers or his mom being burnt, he was on the sidelines doing nothing. He was never torturing.
Something was wrong, and he would find out. Before the nightmares would make him and Gwyn never sleep again.
-.-.-.-.-.-.
Valkyries lived all across Prythian, they had a temple in every court, and all high lords had been forced to recognized them as warriors. According to the books Amanecer had lent her, Valkyries had been around for millennia; they had fought besides the High King, had endured the first wars and some of them had made it to some of the wars of the last five centuries.
To the world, they had been eradicated after a surprise attack in the war of five hundred years. Some of them had survived the war, going into exile from all societies. A few of the high lords of the time, Autumn, Dawn, Spring, and Night had trashed or burnt every record of their existence. Others, like the Summer and Day court, had taken the scrolls and weapons from certain temples in their courts into safe-houses.
There were theories that the attack had been an inside job from some courts that wanted to stop the females from gaining popularity among women in patriarchal societies.
In the night court, according to the law of 300 years ago, spreading the story of the Valkyries was prohibited and would be punished by death.
Some high lords had fought side by side with the warriors; Helion had been one of them. One of the scrolls revealed that the High Lord had mandated that all young women would have training in at least one form of Valkyrie fighting style. He had even made a female unit just for his safety.
As she read, she realized that all of Prythian had done an excellent job of forgetting the power and influence of the female warriors. Amanecer had explained that everything they owned concerning the Valkyries had to be protected because of certain groups that wanted to erase them from history.
The book she currently read revealed several locations around the country where temples had existed. Each Valkyrie temple specialized in one form of fighting, they trained for different weather conditions, enemies and defense strategies according to where the temple was located.
A symbol marked with silver ink marked the temple Gwyn guessed was the principle one, across borders of the Spring and Summer court:
The temple of Ivor is in a forest thick with trees, slippery leaves, and rough vines; with a hot and humid temperature. The combined scent of vegetation, moisture, soil, and decaying plants and wood will be overbearing as you walk towards it. The location of Ivor had been decided in order to maintain people away from it.
Ivor is a place were only few warriors live at, but all warriors must survive.
There is a creature, deep in this forest that will test your bravery and will. Not many are able to survive it.
Only the worthy will pass to Ivor, only the worthy will become Valkyrie.
Heavy and slow footsteps pulled her out of her reading trance, as she lifted her head, she was welcomed with the sight of a winged male with a face looking towards the floor and hair covering his honey eyes.
-What's wrong?- she asked him
He took a moment to respond, walking closer to her and closing some distance between them. -I had a bad night- he said quietly.
She stood, bringing a chair to her current space of work and tapping it so he would sit next to her. -Do you want to talk about it?-
-No.- He said, quiet and harsh.
-Hmm.... would you like to go relieve some stress?- she said, trying to lighten his mood.
-If you don't mind, i would like to go train right now. Maybe that would help- he answered.
She smiled slightly, and nodded. -Go Azriel, i am sure i can be by myself a little longer.-
Without saying anything else, Azriel turned his back to her and walked out of the library and left.
Gwyn tried to go back to reading, tried to involve herself into the story as much as she could. But she was failing to read more than one sentence without thinking back to Azriel and his sad eyes.
She was worried about him.
He took everything that happened to him too hard.
He thought of himself so low.
Sometimes, she worried that he would not be able to move on. That he was not going to ever be happy.
She stood, putting the books in a pile she would likely not come back to until the next day.
She walks toward the door with one goal in mind: she is going to make Azriel smile, no matter what.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
The rock weights are heavy against Azriels sweaty shoulders, he squats low for the fiftieth time, trying to feel the pain as he releases all his emotions through the exercise.
He has been training for two hours, running, lifting, jumping and swimming. Doing everything in his power to stop thinking, stop picturing the nightmare in his mind.
He has not been able to.
-Oi! you're going to break your back if you lift more rocks man- Helion says.
He looks towards the high lord, dressed in his typical white robes and golden accessories. He carries a small envelope, he is coming towards him.
-I have good news my friend- he says, extending the paper towards him.
Azriel grabs the paper, and opens it without responding to Helion.
-It's an invitation to the next big event of Prythian, Cassian and Nesta are finally doing it. - Helion says,
Azriel had guessed that neither Cassian nor Nesta were going to come and give the invitation personally. They were probably too busy to stop by and check on them. Besides, the ceremony would be in less than a month; they were seeing them soon.
Azriel was glad that Cassian was not here, if he saw his brother he would probably fall down to his knees and beg him to forgive him. Forgive him for something he had not yet done.
-Thank you, Helion- Azriel said, going back to his training.
-What's got your wings on a twist now? - Helion asked
He rolled his eyes in response, -nothing, stop being such a busy body-
Helion smiled, getting dangerously close to him, -you use to like it when i was a busy body-.
Azriel couldn't help but to look at him amused, -stop flirting, you can't handle me- he dropped the weights and walked towards the water station. -Actually, i do have a question.... Have you had any unusual dreams, as of late? Anything that seems too real, to be true?-
The male looked at him surprised, -well... yeah. The last few weeks I've had terrible nightmares, I've barely been able to sleep-
-When did they start exactly-
-Well... when Rhys informed me that you guys were coming. At first they were just glimpses during my afternoon nap, but lately is every time i sleep. I feel like i am inside of the dream, actually living it. But, i wonder, why are you asking me?-
Azriel served the High Lord a cup of water, pouring one for himself, - Gwyn and i have been having them as well. She has been dreaming about the same thing nonstop. getting progressively worse. In my case, well, i had a nightmare that was out of the ordinary yesterday-.
-So what's the hunch?- Helion said.
-They are not normal, i think someone.... or something is causing them. And i think it has to do with the trove, the fact that we are looking for it. I think we should be careful, if there something that we should've learned by now is that magic is not subjective to what we know. There is so much that exists, so much we don't know about it. And we also have so much enemies, that we should not be surprised if they are doing something to us for trying to get somewhere we should not.-
Helion nodded, - alright, tell me what to do. I will help in any way i can, you're the spy after all-.
-.-.-.-.-.-
Azriel was stretching when Gwyn arrived.
She had guessed that he needed time by himself, but she was not giving up on talking to him yet.
-It seems as if an earthquake passed through this training field- she said, walking towards him.
He smiles as he looks up towards her, -I had to try out the equipment, before you go ahead and break it-.
Her heart flutters as he sees the half smile he throws her way, she had come all this way to make him smile and she had done it in less than two minutes. -I do not break the equipment, it is simply bad quality and using ti properly destroys it. The Night court is just too cheap to buy it-.
He stood, walking towards her as he used a towel to wipe the sweat off his brow. -I will tell your High Lord and Lady that you just called him cheap-
-You would not dare!- she said.
-Try me.-
She dropped her gaze slightly, feeling the heat rising to her cheeks at his proximity. -Are you... feeling better?- she asks, trying to ignore the filthy thoughts in her mind at the sight of the beautiful sweaty male in front of her.
His smile falters, -a little... I needed to sweat it out.-
-What happened? You were really affected by it- she says.
He stays quiet, looking deeply at her.
A minute passes, he does not answer. Instead, he exhales and says -we are working on our bargain today, there is something i want to show you-.
He does not want you to know, she realizes.
She drops the subject and smiles, -where? are we going today?-
-We are going to a board walk around the city, later tonight. It has some shops open, but it won't be crowded- he explains. -then tomorrow we can try to practice going near my mom. If you are comfortable flying towards the Night Court with me-.
-You know i wont back down, sounds like a deal shadowsinger- she said, leaving him to start getting ready for the night.
She wished she had Nesta besides her to get ready.
Nesta could've told her how in the mother she was to put on the dress she had in front of her.
The deep green gown decorated with white flowers had been a gift from her friend, who had encouraged to wear something other than her training clothes and her priestess robe. The dress was long, and it seem to be loose fitted with a somewhat tight bodice. The trick was to tight it in the back, the straps of the dress were supposed to form a corset like back that would be tight according to the body of the person using it.
She was nervous, freaking out even.
She could not believe she was finally going to a city, walking around with people besides her.
Two months ago this would have not happened, she would've never left the library. But now here she was, getting ready to hang out with the man she loved while also wearing normal clothes.
Gwyn looked at herself in the mirror, looking at the dress falling down to her knees, the long crimson hair that she had brushed so it would fall straight around her face. She looked different, powerful, pretty, happy.
Something is missing, she thought as she went towards her jewelry box.
She had not worn the pendant since it had arrived in her room all those months ago in solstice, it was the first gift she had received in the two years she had been in the library.
It was her most priced possession.
As she placed the flower pendant in her neck, she dreamt of finding whoever had given it to her. She had asked Nesta and Emerie about, both looking confused when she mentioned how it had arrived to her rooms.
The necklace was beautiful, the golden flower had a small amethyst stone as the center of the pendant making it delicate and elegant.
She looked at herself again, and smiled.
She gathered her courage and left the rooms, hoping this night would also bring her courage to get closer to the man waiting for her at the entrance of the palace.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
The sky in Lux was rather overwhelming, during the day it was bright and it shined excessively. At night, the stars seemed like another sun came into view, many parts of the city did not need to use oil lamps to light up their streets, the stars bright enough.
Azriel hated seeing something so bright when he was trying to be as broody as possible.
Even with all the hours at the training field, he had not been able to forget or evade the pain in his chest as he thought of the dream that haunted him.
He was such a hypocrite, two weeks ago he followed Gwyn everywhere to make sure she would not suffer from her nightmares. But here he was, burying himself in his feelings and ignoring anyone who wanted to help him.
He knew Helion and Gwyn would not judge him by his dream, but he was too embarrassed and angry at himself to tell anyone what he had seen.
He should be smarter, knowing it was just that... a dream.
But it had felt so real.
He had actually wanted to send a letter to Cassian to ask if he was okay.
Mor... he would evade Mor for a little while more. When he saw her again he would probably not talk about his dream, but they would finally have that talk he had needed for so long.
Azriel ran his fingers through his hair, pulling some strands to make himself distract that feeling in his chest that had been messing with him since the morning.
He would start investigating, the dreams were not normal. There was something wrong and he would find out what, before he could see anyone else being hurt by his hands in his dreams.
He exhaled, letting his mind travel to the flashback of the dream. Drowning himself in the pain of being alive.
The doors at the palace entrance opened, and a gust of wind settling him into reality.
Light, fast step sounded nearer as he lifted his head.
-I am so sorry I'm late, i could not find this damn exit anywhere- Gwyn said.
His eyes widened as he took her in.
His shadows darken and begged him to fly towards her, embrace her.
She had change out of her training outfit into a beautiful green dress, her hair down and flowing as she ran towards him.
But what caught his attention was not the dress, or the shoes.
The priestess wore the pendant he had given her in solstice. The golden chain jumping up and down in her neck as she neared him.
He thought he heard Gwyn say something as she stopped in front of him. But he was not listening, focusing his stare in the neck of the woman in front of him.
Something in his chest fluttered, happiness rising in him for the first time in the day.
His stupid male pride growing, Gwyn was wearing something of his around her neck.
A declaration his mind was not ready to understand but his heart pushed forward.
He finally moved his eyes to see her, chocked with how only three weeks of being in a new court has made Gwyn shine so brightly.
She seems happier, stronger, and even more beautiful.
He feels a smile appearing in his face, broad and full as he takes her deep blue eyes looking at him.
She is so brave.
She catches him smiling, and her eyes shine even brighter. A smile of plump lips and white teeth forming on her angelic face.
Right there, makes a promise to himself to try harder, to follow her example.
To do anything to bring her to smile like that again and again until it sticks forever.

In an early afternoon, Felix had to stop by for lunch at this wonderful bakery near the Hangang Park. Where they serve many delicacies such as bars, breads, desserts, cookies, muffins, and more. His personal favorite was their fudgy brownie bites, so favored that he's inspired to make one of his own.
As soon as he opened the door to the bakery, he felt the stress he had from practice a while ago were completely relieved. The bakery gave off a warm welcome when he stepped in. Contrasting to the cold breeze of autumn outside. The aroma of newly baked goods lingered around the room that it felt like Felix's being lured immediately to the cashier. It almost smelled like heaven, thought of Felix.
The moment that he got his desired lunch in his hands, he took a seat near the window. He savored each bite of the pastry, eyes rolling to the back of his head at it's deliciousness. Although a ring from his phone interrupted him from his feast.
" Oi Felix, " Chan greeted as soon as he answered his call. Felix first dabbed his mouth with the provided tissue before replying to Chan, " What's up? ".
While he's into the conversation with his friend, something – or rather someone on the streets captured his eyes. You were aimlessly running after a piece of paper caught in the wind. The breeze carrying locks of your silk hair. Your eyes reflecting the sun and eyebrows knitted as you continue to struggle. When the time that you've had it in your hold came, you accidentally slipped on the autumn leaves. Causing you to painfully land on your butt. A groan fell out of your lips as you rubbed your butt to ease the pain. All of the commotion that Felix saw from you made him break out a giggle, which left his friend confused on the other line.
" Ah yeah, yeah. Let's defo have a barbie this arvo. "
Felix thought that you were adorable.
Tumblr media
" (Y/N)? " Called out by the person on the other line as soon as you picked up the call. Your phone was pressed against your right ear while you continued searching for the remote underneath the pillows. It surely has been a while since the last time you interacted with your boyfriend, Park Jongsuk, and God knows how much you missed him. Just hearing his soothing voice at this moment sent butterflies into your stomach. His voice is enough for you to make your day better. " Yes, love? " You asked, smiling to yourself. Also noticing how his tone sounded more requesting. As much as you wanted to beam at him a ' good afternoon ' and ask how is he, you decided not to.
Once you've found the remote to your television, you turned the volume down so that your conversation with him wouldn't be interrupted. You've been just passing some time by watching Netflix for about a week now. Actually, not only for passing time but it is even for avoiding yourself to overthink your current situation - especially about your relationship status with Jongsuk.
" Could we.. " He first trailed off for a moment, contemplating if he should persist with the plan. " Could we meet up later? " That question alone made you joyful and excited, smiling from ear to ear. You give him your enthusiastic approval before ending your call by telling one another that you're both anticipating for your meet up. Turning off the television, you were off to your room to fix yourself. Afterall, this is your first meet up with him ever since the day you were parted by long distance — that's been like roughly 8 months. Him achieving his dreams as a model and actor, away from your home country, Australia. He did brought you with him though. The first months you shared the same apartment, every moment filled with happiness and love.
That is until everything drifted apart. It began with him moving to a dorm nearby and supported by his Entertainment. His weekend visits turned to none at all. Everything that became a habit with him vanished one by one. Leaving you only with memories. But it seems like today's the day you'll start to get everything back.
Oh how you are so oblivious to your bittersweet fate.
Tumblr media
Arriving to the said location, Hangang Park. It runs through thousands of miles and has many parks along the way. An environment friendly place for people to enjoy nature, sports, foods, entertainments, fountains, and more. You personally just adore how comforting it is to be there and to have a breath-taking sight of Han River, especially at night. Every locals and tourists savor their time to be here the same as you do. Although as of today, you couldn't help but notice that the park isn't as packed as it usually is.
You sat down on a nearby bench, waiting for Jongsuk to make an appearance. He did told you to come in the late afternoon and you did get there in time. Leaning onto the bench, you let out a sigh. Eyes finding itself staring at the sky covered with gray clouds. The cold wind crashing into your figure, making you shiver. You were sure that you checked today's weather forecast before leaving your household, told you that it'll just be a cloudy day.
Children's hearty laughs soon began turning to murmurs and whispers. The sound of silverware and plates clinking rang through your ears. It sounded like the family's starting to pack up and clean up their picnic space. " Come on, let's go! " Called out by a woman in her late 20's, assumming that she's the mother. You grew anxious when you noticed how everyone seemed to abandon you alone. Why is everybody departing out of the blue? You've just arrived.
" (Y/N), " You heard your own name being mentioned and it came from  behind you. Recognizing the owner of the cordial tone of his voice, you turned around to meet a pair of eyes wearing misty gray contact lenses. Seeing him washed away all of your worries. Your heart's about to instantly jump out of your chest due to the fact that it's filled with pure happiness. Unconsciously smiling brightly at him.
" Love! " Running towards him, you hugged his tall form securely. Mumbling the words, " I missed you. "
However, to your surprise, he never returned the hug. In fact, Jongsuk gently removed your arms around his waist. " (Y/N), I missed you too, " He started, crouching a little bit to face you better. " Although I have something to tell you. Something important, that's why I came. " Something's starting to creep into your guts. As if it's warning you that there's something off about today. He stated that but he never smiled back at you ever since he made an appearance. Plus, he always addresses you by your real name. Not your shared endearment which is strange.
You hummed in response, your smile slowly fading from your lips. " What is it? " Jongsuk saw how your eyes sparkled with hope. He knows that you're yearning for him to tell you that your gut feeling is wrong. Which made him more guilty for what he's about to do.
" (Y/N), let's.. " He hesitated, hating the fact that he has to see you in this state. However, he does know better for what's best for the both of you. " Let's end this here. " To be better off with someone else. Those words were enough to shatter your heart into million of pieces. Your face fully turning into a gloomy countenance with a hint of confusion. Your lips starting to quiver. For a second, you were frozen into place. You dislike how you couldn't control yourself right now.
" I'm sorry, we just didn't work out anymore. " He continued. Thoughts were flooded with denial, that this is happening at this very moment or you must've misheard everything. But no, Jongsuk's facial expression says it all.
" I understand, " Your voice sounded brittle, holding back the tears. Pity is one of the things that's written on his face. That's the least thing you wanted from anyone, to pity you. As if it's telling that you're incapable of overcoming the worst situations in life, that you're fragile and being belittled. And you clearly despise it. " I'll take my leave now. "
With that, you walked away from him. Your arms found itself wrapping around your own figure, trying your best to calm down. Your mixed emotions of fury and agony almost getting the best of you. Although each second that's passing is killing you. Heart aching, lips quivering, you were just in the worst state ever. And once that first tear broke free, the rest followed in an unbroken stream. Resulting you to run away aimlessly. To wherever your feet may take you.
One drop, two drops fell from the skies that made you slow down until you come to a total halt. You looked up to the sky, seeing it covered with dark clouds. A droplet landed on your cheek, a simple gesture from the heavens of wiping off your tears and you'd like to think of it that way. It wasn't long after the drizzle transitioned to a downpour. As if the heavens are crying and mourning with one of its beloved (you) at what tragedy it witnessed. Unfortunately, you haven't brought your umbrella with you due to the fact that you believed at the false weather forecast. So, you let yourself get drenched in the rain. Not giving any piece of shit about the aftermath. You're currently already exhausted and under the weather.
You closed your eyes, body shivering to the cold air being left out from under the showering water. For a few minutes, you stayed there. Not even minding any comments from the people passing by. That is until you didn't feel the rain landing on your body out of the blue. Strange that you could feel a warm presence to your right. However, you could still hear water coming in contact with the pavement.
When you've parted your eyelids, you were greeted by a black fabric instead of gray clouds. " G'day mate, " A familiar deep voice laced with Australian accent greeted. Glancing to your left, he beamed a sweet smile at you. It was as warm, bright and blinding as the sunshine that it could possibly change the whole weather. To be honest, he's the least man you expected to see today since you thought he's as busy as your ex-boyfriend was.
Lee Felix.
" You know you'll get ill with what you're doing and that's least thing I wanna know from my mate. So, that's defo a no no from me, " He pointed out, handing you his umbrella. You timidly accepted it anyway, hand brushing pass his warm ones. Eyes instantly staring at the wet pavement as soon as it's in your grasp. Sighing, Felix took his jacket off and placed it on top of your shoulders. He also handed you a handkerchief after that, receiving a small thank you from you. Then took the umbrella handle back into his grip.
" You know, your ex-boyfriend's a dick, " That being stated by Felix, you let out a belly laugh while drying your face. Seeing your face lit up also made him laugh with you. Ever since the beginning, you both just clicked when Jongsuk first introduced him to you. The time one of you spoke the first " Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! " call, you felt the connection between the two of you while harmonizing at " Oi, Oi, Oi! ". And honestly, he's better at handling long distance friendships than your ex-boyfriend was. He made sure that he gives time for your friendship despite of his busy schedule from being an Idol. Which is impressive because that's just friendship, what more if he's in a relationship?
" I'm sorry, it's just – That came out from you very unexpectedly. I never saw that coming but I like the change. " You chuckled, now walking down the streets with Felix.
" Well, it's still true though, " Felix began, taking out his favorite fudgy brownies he bought from Sunny's. " How could he be so impatient and ghosted you for straight 8 months? And love is known to be patient. He let himself get defeated just by distance. " He took a bite at the brownie, chewing it thoroughly before continuing. " I even heard rumors of him and this make-up artist from his drama recently. "
" What the fuck, " You cursed under your breath, the last part surprising you. Avoiding the chances of you overthinking, you shook your head then changed the topic. " So you're admitting that you've been spying on me, huh? "
" Hey, it's not my fault that I was at Sunny's because my stomach's craving again for those pastries when I witnessed it, " Felix defended, earning a hum as a response from you.
" Though, it felt like I was watching a K-drama, " He jokingly added which ended with you smacking him upside the head playfully.
Tumblr media
Reaching back home, you invited Felix for dinner and he gladly accepted the offer. As long as you agreed to his terms of conditions. Let him play League Of Legends on your PC and buffalo wings for dinner.
Coming out of the bathroom fully dressed and hair slightly damped, you saw Felix already busy playing on your PC. The headphones plugged into his ears. You're probably gonna kill him if you found out that he gave you a losing streak. Leaving the room, you went down to the kitchen. Preparing his desired meal. As you were doing so, you occasionally heard faint screams from upstairs which made you chuckle. It was quite odd how well Felix knows to immediately make your day better. Like as if nothing, no tragedy, ever happened earlier.
By the time you called Felix for dinner, he dashed down the flight of stairs and towards the dining area. His eyes sparkled and mouth almost drooling at the delicious sight plus taste of the meal. He didn't hesitate to dig in, taking one into his lips and you followed. While eating, Felix's eyes landed on a picture frame unintentionally, making him glare at it. " You should find someone better, " He suggested, his chocolate orbs meeting your own.
When you're always this close to him, you could see his charming points well. From his distinctive features to his gorgeous freckles. You still continued to believe that it was a constellation map drawn by the Gods so that people could never forget what the heavens looked like especially on cloudy days like today. It must've took a lot of patience, dedication and love to sculpt him. How blessed he is to be one of God's greatest masterpiece. Maybe, the heavens loves you so much that they sent him for you. Afterall, the heavens did show affection to you in a form of rainfall.
" Yeah, as if there's someone as better as you. " You murmured while continuing to feast onto the meal. However, Felix heard it clearly.
" Hmm.. " Felix pondered for a moment, chin resting on top of his hands. " Too bad there's only one of me. "
" Although this one does like you. "

Phosphene | Damian Wayne
✦ pairing — older!Damian Wayne x Plus Size Reader (she/her)
✦ word count — 6k
✦ summary — Damian’s plans are never bad; one of them even found the cure to your insomnia.
✦ warnings — mentions of the experience of being fat but not in a bad way, hints of angst, insomnia, anxiety, a little jealousy sprinkled there, Damian being petty, mostly fluff; this was an excuse to write Damian fluff.
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
The plan was simple according to Damian, you would have to visit the area where the type of flora the imported species that was causing people to hallucinate lived and wait there until people went to retrieve it in order to catch them.
You had thought he was joking at first, but there were no records left of the shipments that had brought the flower to the country. Without them, catching whoever was behind this would be impossible.
“What if it was your mom again? No offense.”
“None taken.” He swatted a hand. “It wasn’t her, I’ve never seen that type of flower near any of the League’s headquarters.”
“Well, you should take someone else.”
Damian lifted an eyebrow. “Raven will drive me insane, Blue Beetle is unbearable, Beast Boy doesn’t take anything seriously, Flash is...” He saw you wince as he mentioned your ex-boyfriend, “Well, you know how he is.”
“But he’s fast. You could send him on his ow—“
“Absolutely not. I am the leader of this team.”
Ah, yes, you forgot about his stupid pride for a second there. “Cyborg?”
“Busy with The League.”
You groaned. “I will slow you down.”
He now lifted both eyebrows, glaring at you.
“That wasn’t a joke about my weight,” you defended yourself. “I’m... tired.”
“Because you need fresh air and this mission is perfect for that,” he insisted. “It’ll be fun.”
“You hate having fun.”
He ignored your comment. “Don’t make me force you by saying it’s an order.”
You knew he’d never do it. You gave in, everyone around you did so all the time and you weren’t immune to his stubbornness.
The problem with the stupid mission, apart from how drained you felt, was knowing there was nothing you would really contribute. Everything would be easier if Damian would just take Wally, he would save you from endless headaches AND finish the mission quicker.
Damian was already in the living room, waiting for you with his duffel bag in hand and backpack hanging off his broad shoulders. He opened his mouth, about to ask if you hadn’t forgotten anything, when Wally’s voice interrupted.
“Can we talk before you leave?”
You shook your head at Wally’s question. “I would appreciate it if you covered for me with my family, though.”
“We’ll talk when you’re back?”
“Yeah,” you promised. “Be safe.”
“You too.”
Damian pushed the button to summon the elevator, impatient to leave already. You followed him inside as the doors slid open, silently standing beside him.
His glance shifted between the buttons and yourself throughout the elevator ride. He looked like a child who wanted to ask something they knew they shouldn’t.
In your experience, knowing he shouldn’t do or say certain things had never stopped Damian. After three years of being around him almost every day, you were used to his bluntness. You had been told he used to be worse as a teen, but you didn’t really understand what they meant.
Traveling by bus wasn’t something you ever imagined Damian doing. He never had enough time for that, and with the amount of wealth his family had it was also pointless. He had explained it was to go unnoticed with less hassle.
“Are you sure no one will recognize you?”
“Relax.”
Yeah, you wished you could. You had a bad feeling, Damian would dismiss it because you were tired so you kept it to yourself throughout the ride.
As the bus made the first stop, he asked if you wanted anything from the gas station store. Shaking your head, you took time to look out of the window.
As a sheltered kid, you had never been out that much. You had stumbled into being a superhero by mistake, when you discovered you were decent at fighting while at work.
Your family had owned a shop for a while, a client had gotten too aggressive and you broke his nose almost as a reflex. You started training boxing soon after; your mom thought it would be a chance for you to lose weight.
The weight loss didn’t occur, your body type would only change through surgery and you didn’t have the desire to get a procedure. You were fine with your body, and with your personality for the most part.
Something cold fell onto your lap. Looking down, you found your reusable water bottle. When had he snatched it off your backpack?
Damian took his spot next to you. “You look worried.”
You shifted your head to face him, grasping the bottle in your hand so it wouldn’t fall as you shifted your body too. “I’ve never been around nature that much,” you confessed.
“I’m with you.”
That was oddly comforting. Scratch that. It was comforting, period. Damian knew how to do everything, you would trust him with your life and your loved ones’ safety in a heartbeat.
A yawn broke through you. Not now, you thought. Rolling your head to the other side, you rested it on the window, the light would keep you from falling asleep.
Giving in to your exhaustion was tempting, after many long sleepless nights anything would be helpful. You were on a mission, Damian needed you to be alert; that was why you were there, not to fall asleep.
And who even feels the need of falling asleep in a bus but not on the comfort of their bed?
You let the desire of closing your eyes win. Familiar splashes of color appeared against the dark background, slowly fading as they molded with the pitch-black canvas.
Your head bounced as the bus followed what you assumed to be a bumpy road. Your first name was whispered softly, in a tone no one else had ever used. Blinking to adjust to the light, the first things your eyes could make were grey cloth and olive skin.
Lifting your head, you found Damian’s eyes on you. “We are about to arrive.”
”I’m sorry for falling asleep on you.”
He allowed a pause to linger between you. “It’s fine, you said you were tired earlier.”
Rubbing your eyes, avoiding Damian’s face at every cost as you tried to guess what time it was, you found yourself wishing you would’ve bought a watch for these types of scenarios — then again, you weren’t the adventurer from the team.
The place was packed. Couples and families alike were out and about all over the area, Damian had said they would, but you had underestimated how many people he was talking about.
“Wouldn’t it be better if we slept in tents and wore our suits? There’s a lot of people around.”
“That would look more suspicious. We’re here vacationing like everyone else.”
Lifting both hands in mock surrender, you walked past him and into the building.
You let him chose whether he wanted the bed closest to the door or not. He did, throwing his belongings onto the mattress to then pull out a map.
Approaching him, you leaned over to look at what he was seeing. He explained the path you would have to walk through to find the flowers. The hotel was too far away from the area.
“We should sleep. We’re waking up at dawn.”
“I’m not tired anymore,” you assured him.
His eyes lingered on you, silently asking if you were sure. When your only answer was the tilt of your head, he shook his own. “Then rest some more.”
You walked back to your side of the room in order to find some clothes to change into. You hadn’t really packed pajamas, but a pair of leggings and a t-shirt would be enough and had more utility.
You saw Damian pull a pair of sweatpants out from your peripheral view which prompted you to grip your clothes and get into the bathroom so he could have enough privacy.
He was already in bed when you came out, the only light left was the one emanating from the lamp at your right. Dropping the clothes you had taken off into your duffel bag, you turned the lamp off as silently as its switch made it possible.
You laid on the bed with your legs stretched out. The silence, comforting and mildly warm, was your only source of entertainment. It didn’t cross your mind to bring a book or something to pass the time so you would have to make do with your own imagination, the ceiling fan, and the silence.
Exploring the area didn’t sound so bad, but you would attract too much attention by walking around the trees with a flashlight in hand in the middle of the night. Besides, you didn’t know which kind of creatures could be lurking around in the darkness.
You needed a better plan to locate the flowers, and Damian’s permission.
He huffed on his bed. Turning around to lay on his side in hopes to finally fall asleep. He was thankful over the fact that you didn’t need to keep the lights on like Reyes, but frustrated by the fact that he couldn’t sleep anyway.
Groaning, he sat up. “Let’s go for a walk.”
“How did you know I was awake?”
“Your breathing is too even for you to be asleep.”
You sat up on the bed too, looking for your sneakers. Once you had tied the shoes on, you stood up.
Damian threw a sweatshirt on, groaning as his left shoulder cracked.
Seeing you go through your backpack, he placed a hand on your forearm to stop you. “Only bring some water and a flashlight, no knives.”
Quirking an eyebrow, you looked at him through your eyelashes. “You are the one who trained me to use knives.”
“That’s exactly why I know when you should or shouldn’t carry them.” There was a hint of lighthearted teasing in his voice.
Under your feet, the old floor creaked. Walking down the hallway and crossing the lobby had been a cringing nightmare.
The two of you walked in verbal silence, letting the whooshing of the wind and the crickets’ chirping mix with the crushing leaves.
Damian would check the compass from time to time, making sure you were following the right path. The action reminded you of the reason you were there in the first place.
The soothing smell of earth made you feel like you were far away, perhaps in a dream.
Damian burst the soothing bubble by breaking the silence with a question. “Why did you refuse to speak with West?”
“Some things just don’t work out the way we want them to.”
Wally had been a good boyfriend, sweet and goofy. He always cheered you up when you were sad and took you out on cute dates. You had innocently assumed it would be enough forever, how couldn’t it be when he treated you so well?
Sadly, he wasn’t what you wanted in a partner anymore. You wouldn’t call him immature because he definitely wasn’t that; Wally was too... lively, too chirpy, somewhat hyperactive. You needed peace, enough stress knotted your muscles already without the headaches he triggered.
“Sounds like you don’t want them to work.”
“He gets on my nerves sometimes, I think it’s fair to say it doesn’t matter if I want things to work or not.”
“And you wanted me to take him with me instead.”
“He’s better at this than me.”
Damian lifted his bottle of water, lips grazing the edge of it as he said, “You sell yourself too short.”
You opened your water bottle too, shrugging. “He’s the sporty type.”
“I would hope so.”
You laughed against the lip of the bottle, “Why did you ask?”
“I imagined you wouldn’t like to get mauled by a bear without talking to him.”
“Are you saying you will let a bear maul me?”
He turned serious. “You know I would never.”
Silence fell between you again, as comfortable as always.
By the time you arrived at the point where the specific kind of flowers bloomed at, the sky was starting to appear dark blue instead of pitch black.
“Why don’t we steal them and then track whoever comes looking for them?”
“Because we wouldn’t have proof they’re the ones doing it.” Damian added, “But we should be closer, you were right.”
“Say that again?”
Damian rolled his eyes. “Don’t get used to it.”
Smirking, too pleased with yourself to ruin the moment, you asked, “What are we going to do?”
“Have you ever camped?”
You shook your head.
“Okay. Stay here and make sure no one gets close, I’ll make a phone call.”
“I didn’t bring my knives,” you reminded him.
Pinching the bridge of his nose with a hand, he sighed deeply. “You have your fists.”
He walked past you in the direction you had come from together. Before he could be too far away, you called for him, “And if I’m overcrowded?”
He craned his neck backward to give you a smirk. “Choke some of them with your thighs.”
Looking down at your thighs, you frowned. What was that supposed to mean?
You never found out what Damian meant by that. No one came near the area, seemingly due to how early in the morning it was. If you were to steal some flowers, you would personally do it at night when tourists were busy partying or sleeping.
Then again, stealing flowers wasn’t your expertise.
Damian took longer than you felt comfortable with, but he brought yours and his belongings with him alongside a few other things.
In silence, he slanted his head, motioning for you to follow him.
You snatched your duffel bag from his grasp. “What did you do?”
“I bought the camping essentials I found at the store.”
“I told you I’ve never gone camping!”
“I haven’t forgotten. But last night you wanted to sleep in a tent, didn’t you?”
You shook your head. “I said it because I can stay awake for long periods of time.”
“We’ll take turns.”
You would rather not. Camping as a fat person was a no-no. Well, not really, but many factors could ruin the experience for you and in that case for Damian.
The last thing you wanted was to put up his grumpy version.
You avoided him throughout the day, exploring the area near where he insisted on camping.
He really should’ve listened to you and taken someone else. Someone who wouldn’t get nervous. It wasn’t his fault, he couldn’t have known the reasons behind your reluctance.
Calling it insecurity would be reductive when you were comfortable with yourself. It was annoyance over not having control of the circumstances in which you would go camping for the first time.
“I think we should get some sleep,” he said from behind you.
You would only trouble him. There was only one tent, you didn’t know how narrow it would get and for the past four months, there hadn’t been a single night in which you didn’t end up tangled in the sheets over how much you twisted in attempts to find a comfortable position.
Sleep had become elusive even before you broke up with Wally. You tried every treatment in existence with no positive results, there was simply something wrong in your brain.
Damian was sure you wouldn’t come in if he didn’t force you, expecting otherwise would mean not being familiar with your antics. He didn’t want to pressure you, but he wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing you were out there alone.
You could defend yourself rather well, it was irrational on his behalf to be so worried. His brain chose to nag him about it still so he listened to it.
He found you with your feet in the river, looking at the rippling water as you made slow movements with your fingers.
“It’s nice out here,” you commented, feeling his presence.
He hummed softly, taking a seat next to you. It smelled like a proper river, unlike Gotham’s.
“Did you get some sleep?”
“No,” he admitted, using his fingers to make movements in the water too.
“Do you have a lot on your mind?”
“Yes. Do you?”
“No.”
He hummed again. Your peaceful semblance was a nice addition to the scenery, with the moon shining in your eyes.
“I can take care of the morning roundabout if you want.”
“You should sleep a little first. We can set schedules later.”
You could’ve sworn his voice carried worry.
His sloppy steps halted as he held the tent open for you to get in. With a sigh, you complied and kneeled on the sleeping pad. At least he wouldn’t force you into a sleeping bag.
When he didn’t make a move to lay down, you begrudgingly did so. His ability to bend you to his will was annoyingly astounding — or astoundingly annoying, it changed day to day.
Damian immediately laid down next to you, facing the ceiling of the tent.
Your hand brushed his by mistake. “Sorry,” you whispered. Damian didn’t answer, he was already asleep.
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
Mission briefings were everything but fun. Damian’s dry orders always made someone complain — or worse, they sometimes forced the leader to repeat himself.
You were dreading this particular one. Everyone was in a prickly mood due to how much the flower thing was stretching and you could only assume this mission would be part two to stopping whoever was placing the orders.
Damian handed you a large box. Opening it, you found a deep red dress in your size.
“Where are ours?” Jamie asked.
“You are not attending the party as yourselves. (Name) and I will tell you when it’s safe to get in.”
“Why (Name)?”
“Would you prefer I take Raven?” Damian mocked.
Garfield shook his head. “But you don’t need a date to go to a party.”
Wally shifted in his seat.
“You want Bruce Wayne’s son to attend a party by himself without raising suspicion?”
Snorting, you only stared at him in hopes he would give more details. Of course he would say that.
You had to give it to Damian, he had good taste. The dress fitted you perfectly, it hid your thigh holster better than you thought it would when you took it out of the box which was a relief.
He had told you to not carry them, but the knives surely would come in handy if something went wrong.
With his hand on your waist, he guided you into the venue. People, eager to impress him, swarmed around him to compliment him and yourself. Their eyes would linger on you, but you didn’t care about what they could have to say; they wouldn’t dare to say it in front of him either way.
You leaned to speak into his ear, “Have they approached us yet?”
“Let’s dance.”
You both made your way toward the dancing area, inpatient for his answer. There was something off about that place and you couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was.
Now with both hands on you, he leaned forward so only you could listen to him. “Are you uncomfortable?”
“I have a bad feeling.”
His touch turned into a grip as the words left your mouth. Your body responded to it by pressing closer to him, hands firm on his shoulders as you searched for his eyes.
“I’m with you.”
Nodding, you barely mumbled, “I never said I was scared.”
His mouth twitched upward. You tilted your head as his gaze fell on your nose. If his eyes continued the path...
Damian was pushed off you. As a reflex, you withdrew a knife from your holster and pointed it at whoever had interrupted.
“Woah,” Wally exclaimed, “It’s me.”
You turned to look at Damian but he was focused on the railway. A gun went off outside, prompting Wally to run in aid of your friends.
You slipped your knife back into the holster before it would grab anyone else’s attention. It would be hard for Damian to explain why his date had been carrying a weapon and you didn’t want to get him into trouble because you hadn’t listened to him.
Approaching him, you wrapped an arm around his waist. “Did they escape?”
Throwing his arm around your shoulders, he answered with another question, “Are you injured?”
“No.”
If looks could kill, Wally West would’ve fallen dead in the middle of Damian’s office thirty seconds ago. Not only had he made Damian look like a fool, but he had also let Marconi’s men escape.
Loosening his tie, he didn’t even try to control his voice. “What the hell was that?”
“Oh, you’re mad because people might know we are acquainted?”
“I am angry because you almost got (Name) hurt.”
“She’s the one who carried knives!”
Damian inhaled deeply, holding his head higher than usual. “There was no need for you to intervene.”
Wally gritted, “You don’t get to decide that.”
“I am the leader of this team.”
“You were flirting with her.”
Narrowing his eyes, Damian placed both palms on the desk. “I’m going to ask you to leave if you can’t separate your obligations with my team from your personal life.”
“So you weren’t flirting?”
Damian shook his head, exasperated.
He left the office before his head would explode. He was supposed to talk to the others too, but he didn’t want to.
His insomnia was getting worse, between his responsibilities at Wayne Enterprises and the newfound ineptitude of 70% of the team, he was close to combust.
Damian was confident in his leadership, he was more skilled than the team could even imagine. If he wasn’t so fucking tired, he would’ve solved this problem all by himself.
His legs carried him to the bedroom area. He had the intention of taking a shower and trying to get some sleep but they went out of the window when he heard your laugh.
Pushing your door open, he stuck his head inside. You beckoned him in, following his movements with your tired eyes.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
You nodded. “I didn’t hurt myself. And I’m the one who carried the knives...”
Damian set his jaw. Sitting down on your bed, he nodded upward at the TV. “What are we watching?”
“The cooking channel.”
“You hate cooking.”
“I hate following recipes for things that don’t need measurements,” you clarified.
He kicked his shoes off, swinging his legs onto the mattress as he rested his back against the bed frame.
Knowing he wasn’t a fan of cooking shows that didn’t entail some type of competition, you surfed through the channels in search of something that wouldn’t warrant you a whiny Damian.
His whining was fun, but you were too tired to not punch him. Remembering what you had wanted to ask since he entered, you breathed in. “Did you fight with Wally for not following your orders?”
“Something like that.”
His dry tone made you shift so you could gaze at him. Apart from his tiredness, he looked really angry still — the frown hadn’t disappeared from his face, his clenched jaw could’ve popped in front of you and you wouldn’t be surprised.
“We’ll catch them.”
Damian stared at you for a prolonged moment, mapping out the shape of your nose and how sunk your eyes were. Your blinking slowed down to a passive rhythm and he felt himself focusing on his own rhythm to mirror yours.
You bit down your bottom lip, gnawing on it. Stretching his hand, he stopped you from drawing blood by pulling your lip out with his thumb. He breathily concurred, “Yeah.”
Your eyes followed the movement of his hand as he withdrew it. Silently handing him the tv remote, you laid on your side, curled up as you went back to stare at the tv screen.
Damian allowed his body to relax as he skipped channels. Growing bored, he switched to Netflix.
You sighed deeply beside him, humming to yourself. He turned the lights off, then the TV.
Harsh knocking against the door woke him up. Looking down at the weight on his chest, he felt his breath hitch.
Whoever was knocking got fed up and forced the door open themselves. “Hey, (Nickname), have you seen Rob—“
Damian placed a finger against his lips, motioning for Raven to shut up.
She nodded enthusiastically, surprised by the tenderness of Damian’s touch as he lifted your head off his chest and placed it onto the pillow.
He left the bed slowly, picking his shoes from the floor and using them to gesture for Rachel to leave the room. He followed her, putting his shoes on once away from your bedroom.
“Did you need me?”
“Is there something going on between—“
Damian cut her off, “You were looking for me. Tell me what for.”
“Victor found a lead.”
Your bedroom door creaked open. Damian turned around to see you tumbling towards the kitchen, undoubtedly in need of some caffeine.
Glaring at Raven, he ordered, “Tell everyone to get ready.”
❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎・・・・・❖︎
Damian deviated his eyes to the side in order to rest them, placing a bookmark on the page. Logan was soundly asleep, with his head against the window like you had been that time on the bus.
He remembered vividly the tremble in his fingers as he moved your head to rest on his shoulder so you would be more comfortable, and the way his heart skipped a beat when you sighed contently against his skin.
Turning to the other side, he saw your hunched over form, hovering over the small table in front of you. How you could have the patience to fill a coloring book in the middle of a flight after such a tiring fight was a mystery.
Wally beside you caught him staring, again.
Damian thought he couldn’t dislike the mission more; oh, how wrong had he been. First, he hadn’t been able to bend the plans this time, the only thing he could do was give orders and split the team in the most efficient manner.
And it had worked, but at the cost of his sleeping pattern getting worse. The mission served two purposes, the first was obvious; the second one was more complicated, he came to a few conclusions — they made all the sense in the world in his opinion, but sense wouldn’t change the fact that he couldn’t sleep without you.
There was something in the heady smell of your shampoo that his monkey brain found soothing. He needed to sneak into your bathroom and check which brand you used. Or ask you. Yeah, that.
You were probably making up with your ex-boyfriend while he longed for sleeping next to you. And he hated it.
Moving your head left to right as you scratched your itchy nose, you found yourself wafting Wally’s sweet cologne.
Wally awkwardly nodded upward. The two of you hadn’t spoken much throughout the mission. You nodded back before scratching your nose again.
“Bored?”
Looking down, you shook your head. It wasn’t even worth mentioning at this point, or feeling some kind of shame for it — what embarrassed you was the conclusion you had come to a few mornings ago.
You couldn’t sleep without Damian. There was something about him, maybe his stillness, that relaxed you to the point of being able to sleep eight hours. Your pre-insomnia self had never slept more than five.
“Then?”
“Lots in my mind. I’m worried about—“
“Robin.”
You whirled your head to look at him, wide-eyed.
“I’m not surprised.” Hurt laced his hushed voice. “There’s always been something going on between you two.”
“That’s not true. And I’m worried about a lot of things.”
“He’s been staring at you the entire mission, he hates me, you said you didn’t trust Alexis and he broke up with her, you always give him the benefit of the doubt when his ideas are bad... I could go on and on.”
“Well, Damian’s ideas are never truly bad...”
“You call him Damian.”
“So?”
“No one else from the team does. He’s Robin to us, we are our superhero aliases to him and nothing else.”
“It’s not like you guys have ever tried to see him differently!” Your indignant whisper-shout surprised you while Wally hadn’t even flinched.
He hung his head backward. “You’re defending him again.”
“He’s my friend.”
“Is that why you worry about him to the point of no sleep? Because I know you never cared about me that way.”
“I don’t like what you’re insinuating.”
“I’m not saying you didn’t love me, I know you did.” Wally gave you a sad smile, “But if I made you choose, you would pick him.”
“I wouldn’t pick someone who makes me choose between them or a dear friend.”
Shaking your head in frustration, you picked another marker and went back to your coloring book.
He had been the first relationship you took seriously, the first person you had truly loved in a romantic sense. How could he say those things? Even if they were true, they were uncalled for.
Wally leaned closer to you. “I won’t get mad, just stop lying to yourself.”
You were the first one to leave the plane after landing. Wally’s words made all the sense in the world, that didn’t mean you wanted them to.
No. The truth was that you wanted them to make sense and that bothered you more. You wanted to believe you weren’t the only one in a dilemma.
A stupid dilemma at that. Damian was your friend, you could tell him you needed him in an entirely platonic way — it would be a nice compromise and a pathetic cop-out at once.
Damian placed a hand on your shoulder as you passed him on your way to the living area. “Can you come to my office?”
“Just let me check my phone.”
Nodding, he slowly slid his hand back until it fell onto your arm for a fleeting second before he withdrew it.
Your skin buzzed the entire time it took you to answer texts from your family. Now that the mission was over, you would be able to see them — and to put up with their reaction to your break up with Wally.
Telling them that you had feelings for someone else wasn’t an option, and explaining it was Bruce Wayne’s son would make you sound insane to them.
Sat directly on his desk, with his cellphone in his grasp and frown upon his face, Damian was waiting for you.
From the doorway, you asked, “Are you okay?”
He didn’t look up. “No.”
The answer took you aback. Without invitation, you entered the office. Closing the door behind you, —carelessly and louder than you would’ve liked— you approached him.
He looked fine. Tired, but fine. You knew for a fact he hadn’t been injured, and the mission had been a success so his crankiness was worrying, to say the least.
“Stop looking at me like that.”
“Like I’m worried?” You saw him nod. “Do you want me to scoop my eyes out?”
“Do you look at other people like that?”
“Yes.”
Damian huffed.
“What’s your problem?”
“Nothing.”
“Stop acting like a brat with me, Damian.”
He put his cellphone to the side, finally lifting his head.“Is that really what you want?”
“Preferably. Your act, whatever thing you come up with on the next minutes, won’t push me away.”
“You are driving me absolutely insane!” He wiped his mouth after having spoken so abruptly. “You distract me, I can’t sleep without you next to me, your stupid ex-boyfriend being so close to you killed me the entire mission—“
“Three days?”
He glared at you. You said it so easily, like three nights of no sleep and headaches were pleasant.
You rested a hand on each of his shoulders. “I can’t sleep without you either.”
He opened his legs for you to stand between them. You did so, feeling his hands on your lower back. “Is this awkward?”
Shaking your head, you wrapped your arms around his neck. “We’ve been in more awkward situations.”
His arms snaked around you, pulling you flush against him. You inhaled the smell that lingered on his clothes, vanilla and almonds with a hint of something earthy.
“Couldn’t you tell me this in my room? Or yours?”
Damian rested his head on your shoulder. “I wasn’t going to tell you.”
“What did you want?”
“To keep you from spending more time with West,” he mumbled the admission.
You shouldn’t have found it so funny, but there you were shaking out of laughter.
He whined against your neck, “Don’t laugh at me.”
You slipped your fingers into his hair, massaging his scalp. “It’s silly, though, he’s my teammate.”
“And your ex-boyfriend who wants you back.”
“Not anymore.” Feeling him tense under your touch, you elaborated, “He knows I like you.”
Damian’s embrace tightened. He hummed on your skin, nuzzling against your t-shirt. You played with his hair for a few more minutes until he started to get heavier against you.
“Don’t fall asleep,” you warned.
He hummed again.
“Damian,” you tried to make your voice come out sternly, but you couldn’t bring yourself to be harsh. “You’ll wake up sore. At least let’s go to the living room.”
Reluctantly, he pulled away from you. He couldn’t contain a whine as your fingers slid off his hair, making you giggle. He grabbed said hand, practically dragging you out of the office.
Thankful for not bumping into anyone, you made it to his bedroom. You imagined he had stopped there because it was the closest one to his office.
He didn’t let go of your hand as he sat down on the bed and kicked his shoes off. You had to wiggle your fingers off his to round the bed and lay down without pulling him with you.
As soon as your back touched the bed, Damian rested his head on your chest, sliding his hand between the mattress and your back.
Your fingers went back to his hair, which was what he had been seeking in the first place, massaging circles on his scalp. It didn’t take much for his breath to even out.
When you woke up, Damian was laying on his side, hugging you tightly from behind with his other arm. His light breathing fanned on your shoulder, tickling up to your neck.
Torn between leaving the bed to follow your routine and staying in the comfortable position against his chest, you shuffled as slowly as you could until you were facing him.
Damian had never looked that serene. Anyone who didn’t know him would have assumed he didn’t have a single responsibility or weight on his shoulders if they could see him at that moment with his mouth ever so slightly parted.
Your heavy eyes lid closed. You weren’t sure as to what time it was, you only knew that the light of the day was gone already, but the comfort of Damian’s frame and his light breathing was better than anything you had to do.
Nestling your face on his chest, you felt his hand move down your back.
Sleepily, he said. “We could go out to dinner.”
His deep voice made you feel more awake. Draping an arm over his torso, you joked, “Are you asking me out?”
Now with his hand on your thigh, he spoke more seriously. “More than that. But first things first.”
You hummed. As nice as it sounded, you didn’t want to get up.
Damian pinched your thigh. “Come on, I’ll give you an excuse to wear the red dress again.”
You lifted your head off his chest. “Do you have a fixation with that dress or something?”
“I mean, I bought it for a reason...”
You playfully hit his chest. He smirked, fingers trailing up your thigh, giving you goosebumps.
You sighed, “Do you think the team will say anything?”
“It’s not like I care.”
You knew he cared deep down, but fighting him on it would be losing your time. It wouldn’t affect him either way, not like it would to you if they looked at you differently or judged you.
Damian left a kiss on your forehead. “I’m with you,” he reminded you.

Chapter 1: First (Proper) Meetings
This is the first proper chapter of my PTA! Dad Zemo fanfiction, and the 3rd of 11 chapters. The chapter is located under the cut.
Chapter word count: 4265
Fic Summary:
After the untimely death of both his wife and father due to a bombing, Baron Helmut Zemo takes his son and immigrates to America. He does not expect to find a family nor a romantic partner, and he especially does not expect to find the ability to heal. To grieve.
And yet, here we are.
This is a story about connections, growing, healing and mourning the past while still appreciating the future and all it has to offer.
One Year Later
“Come on now, my sonnenschein. AJ and Cass are most certainly already waiting for you.” Zemo told his son as he dragged him out the door. Carl had been having dreams (memories, blood, dust-) about his mother lately, and it had been difficult for both of them, especially considering the new school year was about to begin.
“Yes, papa.” Carl muttered sleepily, getting in and buckling himself when his father told him too. It wasn’t a particularly flashy car, but it did scream luxury, Zemo didn’t particularly care about the coincidental bragging though. He drove Carl to school in silence, letting his son have a few minutes of rest while he did the same. He didn’t sleep of course, just took a few moments to calm himself. It was stressful helping Carl process his dreams (memories, memories, memories-), let alone discussing his late wife. Carl wasn’t young enough when she died to forget her, and he couldn’t decide whether that was fortunate or not.
Zemo sighed and perfectly parked yet again, helping a just-awakened Carl out of the car and handing him his school bag. Now that his school was in sight, Carl had perked up a bit, rushing his papa along rather than the other way around. Zemo watched carefully as he rushed over to AJ and Cass, before looking around for Sarah.
He smiled when he saw her, then grimaced when he noticed who she was talking to. Fucking Carol. Nevertheless, he made his way over. He needed to play nice with Carol in order to keep his role in the Parent-Teacher Association.
“Ladies, always a pleasure.” He greeted with a smirk, which turned into more of a smile at Sarah’s hidden huff of laughter.
“Oh hello, Baron Zemo.” Carol greeted flirtatiously, and he had to hide the way his smile faltered with a glance toward the playground.
“Just Zemo works fine, Mrs. West.” He told her. While he was aware of his title and it’s connections, he did not want to flaunt it, just like his riches. He wanted Carl to live as normal a life as possible, which meant that he would have to do the same, not that he wanted much to do with what his future would have entailed without the unfortunate status of Sokovia. Sarah let out another huff of laughter.
Suddenly a new voice joined them. “Excuse me,” The man said, gently manervouring through them. Zemo knew immediately who it was from the voice, and even if he didn’t, the metal prosthetic was more than enough of a give away.
“It’s fine,” he heard himself say faintly, letting his eyes flicker down the man's whole body. James Barnes was a very attractive man, he thought to himself.
“Shit, I’m sorry. Just in a bit of a rush this morning.” He didn’t leave any time for a reply as he rushed into the school, fumbling with the stack of boxes he was carrying in his arms. Zemo stared at him behind the entire time until he was out of view. He knew he was blushing but he couldn’t help it.
“Well, well, well…” Sarah commented, a sly grin on her face. Carol looked rather huffy though, and cut her off.
“How disrespectful! He shouldn’t even be allowed near the children with his “PTSD.” And that metal arm, I mean think of the children! They shouldn’t know about it, and he should get a more realistic one. That would be far better for the children, not confusing them with his… robot arm.” Carol ranted angrily, her face growing a rather unpleasant shade of red.
“Carol!” One of the playground supervisors shouted in their general direction. “Hunter had another accident!” Carol stormed over in yet another huff, and both Zemo and Sarah let out a sigh of relief.
“I don’t know where she gets off being all high and mighty like that.” Sarah complained, before her mouth turned into a sly grin once again. “But I do know where you're getting off.” Zemo let out an undignified snort of laughter, covering his mouth in horror as he realised what he had done.
“I have no idea what you mean!” He protested. Sarah was very much like a sister to him, and she was also the reason he was on the PTA board. He enjoyed going to the meetings, especially when it came to fundraisers and budgets for prizes. He wasn’t the type to flaunt his wealth, but in the cases of donations? He would totally out-pay every other parent out there.
“Uh-huh, and you weren’t just ogling at your kid’s teacher’s butt?” She asked teasingly. The bell rang, cutting off their conversation. Despite the fact that it had been a year at this point, he still flinched at the loud, shrill sounding bell that signalled the start of the school day.
“Of course not! That would be incredibly impolite.” He retorted, smiling even as he protested her words. “It is good to see you again, Sarah.” He said quietly as they both watched their children line up together.
“You too, Zee.” She replied, just as soft. “And don’t think I didn’t see those bags under your eyes. Pick up your act or I’ll smack some sense into you.” Zemo ducked his head and blushed at both the nickname and the vaguely threatening nag to take care of himself.
“Apologies, I will ensure that you will not need to “smack some sense into me.” He assured her, knowing that he wasn’t actually going to do anything to sleep better, simply invest in some concealer. He felt bad planning to deceive Sarah like this, but he really was okay, so it didn’t matter. All he was doing was preventing her from worrying, that was a favour, right?
Once all the children were inside the school, he and Sarah said their goodbyes. He walked over to his car, and once in the privacy of it’s tinted windows, dropped his head and took in a deep, shuddering breath. He had no idea how he was going to stay awake and aware through the PTA meeting later that day. It was to discuss how the first day had gone and such, but Zemo really couldn’t care less, especially considering he already had a full day of work ahead of him.
Sighing, he turned on his car and drove home. Oeznik greeted him and took the car keys and his coat. Zemo muttered a thanks and headed to his office, spreading a fake grin on his face as he began his day of online meetings and phone meetings with his accountants, lawyers and business personnel.
The hours dragged by slowly, and he was thankful when the time came to pick Carl up from school. He had gotten Oeznik to go out and purchase him some expensive, good quality concealer, which he generously applied over his eye bags. Once he was satisfied with his appearance, he took his coat and keys from Oeznik, and headed to pick up Carl. Oeznik came along so that he could drive Carl home and Zemo could stay for the PTA meeting. He would either walk or call a car home, whichever he was feeling in the aftermath of the meeting.
Oeznik drove, which Zemo was grateful for, not trusting himself to not fall asleep at the wheel. He dozed slightly on the short drive to the school, but never for more than a few minutes. Oeznik quietly called out when they had arrived, and Zemo gracefully stepped from the car, looking every ounce of the baron that he was, and not an exhausted single-dad who was still mourning his wife and probably needed therapy.
“Thank you Oeznik,” he murmured quietly in his native tongue. He was still fluent, as were Oeznik and Carl. Even though Sokvia had technically fallen as a country, cannibalized by its neighbouring countries and removed from the map.
He plastered on a fake smile and took his place beside Sarah in waiting. She was talking to someone on the phone, once he heard the name he knew it was her brother. Sam Wilson. He did not know much about him, just that he left whatever he was doing to join Sarah in raising his nephews.
“Everything okay?” He asked, carefully making sure none of the residual tiredness leaked into his voice. Sarah was very observant when it came to the health of the people around her, so he couldn’t let her see anything at all. No signs that he was unwell in any way. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her, he did. He just- this was something he needed to deal with himself. He could comfort Carl and talk, he could. It was easier. He could tell Carl that it was okay to cry, that they could talk for as long as he’d like, as much as he’d like, tell him that acceptance wasn’t easy, that it was going to be okay. But when it came to himself, none of that applied.
He should be strong enough to handle it, handle everything. If he couldn’t handle it himself, then how was he meant to help Carl? He needed to stay strong.
He was broken out of his thoughts when Sarah responded. “Yeah, we’re just a bit tight on money at the moment, but Sam is insisting we need to keep the goddamn boat. And don’t you dare go offering anything, we’re fine.” Zemo pursed his lips but nodded, already mentally planning how he was going to get Sarah to accept help; he could, after all, provide more than just financial aid.
The bell rang, he had to make an actual effort to flinch this time, he was very tired, and felt disoriented. Sarah laughed at him, which means he must have done a good job. He blinked harshly a few times to clear his blurring vision. He just had to get through the meeting, or maybe he could skip it and just give the school a generous donation to “help” them forget about it. But then Sarah would worry, so he would suffer through it.
AJ and Cass came rushing out, with Carl trailing behind them, clearly tired. Although he perked up once his papa waved at him. He rushed at him, and just like always, Zemo scooped him up and gave him a hug, before gently setting him on the ground. The PTA meeting technically started fifteen minutes after the school day let out, but most members took longer, and no one ever commented, except Carol, because they all had kids, or taught kids, and understood.
Zemo led Carl over to the car, helping him in and telling Oeznik that Carl could take a short nap before completing any school work. Oeznik nodded and Zemo started his walk back down to the school. The secretary buzzed him in before he could even ask, and he gave her a polite smile as he made his way over to the teachers lounge turned PTA meeting room. He blinked heavily, staring at the door for a second. He was contemplating just turning around when he heard a voice behind him.
“Are you just going to stand there or…?” It was James, and Zemo blinked again, struggling to find his voice.
“My apologies.” He replied quietly, “Just debating whether or not I want to deal with Carol today.” He quipped, opening the door for James to enter. He put on his best smile and straightened his posture. It was time to put on his mask of “Insufferable PTA dad who knows he’s better than you.”
The only other people here so far were staff and Carol, who was sitting in the seat directly beside his usual one. His smile grew even faker and more tense as he reluctantly sat down. Carol was the type of rich person who flaunted it, even though she had never actually had a job before, and all of her money was from her father and her husband's father.
“Hey, Helmut~” She said in a flirtatious voice, and he couldn’t hold back the flinch at her butchered pronunciation of his first name. She said it like an American, not the way it was meant to be pronounced in its language of origin.
“Hello, Mrs. West.” He greeted quietly, hoping that she wouldn’t be like this the whole time. “And like I’ve said numerous times before this, it is just Zemo.” He hoped that she would finally accept the fact that he preferred to be referred to as just his last name, but that hope was quickly crushed.
“But I like Helmut!” She shouted, pouting, once again butchering the pronunciation. He inhaled and exhaled slowly, calming himself. He had to stay polite and perfect. He had an image to maintain.
“Mrs. West-” He began, but was cut off by a snort.
“Your name is Helmut?” James asked incredulously, looking at him in exasperation. “What kind of rich person name is that?”
Zemo took another breath to calm and compose himself. “That is not the correct pronunciation, and it is not a traditionally “rich person” name as you put it, Mr. Barnes.” Zemo gently corrected, trying not to let any anger seep through his carefully constructed words. “And I prefer to go by my last name. Just my last name. Zemo.”
James hummed in consideration, and Carol let out a huff at her flirtations having fallen short. Zemo struggled to keep his eyes open in the lull of conversation as they waited for their final members, Sarah among them.
When Sarah arrived she took the seat on the other side of him, and he almost cried in relief at having a familiar, friendly face. It seemed that while James was nice to look at, he had some sort of dislike for upper-class people, which Zemo knew was not uncommon. Not that it didn’t hurt, being judged for something he personally had no control over.
But that's beside the point. The meeting started, and people started talking. Zemo kept himself awake by repeatedly pinching his hand, squeezing the soft flesh tightly everytime his focus started to slip. Several of the mothers attending tried to make flirty conversation with him, but he politely shut them down. All of them were married women, and he was not going to get involved with a married woman. Nor any woman for that matter, or man. He was not planning on ever seeking out a long term connection, not after Heike.
The meeting dragged on and Zemo, while occasionally participating, mostly stayed quiet. It wasn’t as though he was extraordinarily vocal at these meetings anyway, but he was more quiet than normal.
“I know you think I’m a dream but pinching yourself is not the right way to prove it.” A husky voice murmured to him. He looked over to see that Carol had physically gotten up to rant at some point, and James had taken her seat.
Zemo blinked in confusion. He was pretty sure James was flirting with him, which seemed unlikely, considering the man's attitude when they last spoke.
“More like this meeting is a nightmare I want to wake up from,” he replied, keeping voice as quiet as James. Carol had grown louder in her shrieking and it was giving him a headache. Well, at least now he couldn’t sleep even if he wanted to.
“Carol.” He said just loud enough to interrupt her and gain everyone else's attention, but he did not yell. Yelling was unfitting of a man of his stature. Baron’s do not yell, they command a room with silence, or with patience and a steady voice.
“Yes, Zemo?” Carol asked, eyes going half lidded and practically turning into hearts. He gave her a patient smile back, like she was a toddler too excited to wait.
“I’m afraid I have a rather potent headache at the moment,” he said, perfectly coaching his expression into something a tad more vulnerable than normal. “And I would greatly appreciate it if you could keep your-” ‘temper tantrum’ he thought to himself “-louder ideas, for the next meeting?” He pushed as much pain and tiredness into his eyes and smile as he could, which was a lot at the current moment.
Carol looked properly scolded and shrunk in slightly. “Sorry, Zemo.” She said quietly, sitting in James' original seat since he was still in hers.
“It’s fine. Thank you.” He replied, giving her a tight smile. He could feel everyone's eyes on him, and hoped it was because he got Carol to be quiet and not because of his admission of a headache. He could feel James staring at him, so he looked at him, tilted his head so that only James could see his face, and gave him a smirk. He hoped it wasn’t too obviously fake, and it seemed like it was real enough because James let out a huff of laughter (and oh how that made his heart soar) and turned away.
The meeting continued on for a while longer before everyone packed up. He had recorded the audio of the whole meeting on his phone, so he didn’t worry about missing anything. He was looking forward to listening to Carol’s rant a second time, but he did catch James’ laughter. He smiled giddily at the thought.
“What made you so happy?” Sarah asked from behind him as they were leaving the school.
“I got Carol to shut up.” He responded, biting his lip. He knew that if Sarah knew the true reason behind his smile she would never drop it.
“Uh huh.” She replied teasingly, before saying her goodbyes. They parted ways and he decided to walk home. He had just started walking when he heard loud, fast approaching footsteps behind him. He instinctively stepped out of the way and put himself into a loose fighting stance. Despite his now good mood, he was still very much sleep deprived and high strung. Thankfully the person, who he saw was Carol, had not attempted to grab him in any way. If she had, he probably would have broken her arm, or at the very least tried too.
“Hey Zeze!” Carol shouted, and he winced, both at the nickname and her shrill voice.
“Just Zemo, Mrs. West. And what can I do for you?” He asked, still perfectly polite. He would not allow himself to be anything but perfectly polite in any situation, public or otherwise.
“Well I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving you after you declared having such a horrific headache!” She declared, following just a step behind him as he started to speed walk towards his home. Then realised if he led her to his house she would never stop showing up. He pulled out his phone and called Oeznik, ignoring Carol when she asked what he was doing.
“Oeznik, come pick me up. A lady won’t leave me alone. She is not a threat, but a nuisance.” He explained, talking in Sokovian as to not insult Carol in a language she could understand. Carol was quiet as he talked to Oeznik, who said he’d bring a car right away.
“Thank you, old friend.” Zemo replied and hung up. “My apologies Carol, it was a serious matter. My butler will be around shortly to pick me up, so I’m afraid we’ll have to cut this conversation short.” She blinked and he noticed how she seemed dazed when he mentioned his butler. Was she not as rich as he thought?
“Whatever.” Carol huffed insolently, and strutted away. Zemo let himself relax just a little bit, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He flinched when someone put a hand on his shoulder and reflexively defended himself. His vision was blurry and he was almost certain he was a minute away from passing out, but he could not allow himself to get caught off guard.
“Woah!” The person exclaimed, and Zemo blinked. “Hey, it’s okay. You’ve just been standing here awhile, I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Zemo stared at the person, it was James. He had just attacked James after staring at nothing like an insane person.
“M-My apologies.” He stuttered out, “I am just waiting for my ride. You startled me.” Zemo had no idea how to explain what was actually going on. How do you tell your son’s teacher that you haven't slept for more than a few hours a night for almost a month and were practically delirious with sleep deprivation, which had caused you to disassociate, and then when he touched your shoulder your brain thought he was a Nazi so it made you flip out? That's right. You don’t. “Mm. Well since we’re both already here, I wanted to talk to you about Carl?” Zemo froze, had something happened? “I read the note you sent with him and just wanted to let you know that the school has a counseling program that I am required to recommend.” James continued with a huff of laughter at the end.
“Well thank you, but I assure you and your requirements that Carl is already seeing a licensed therapist.” Zemo replied. Despite the rocky start to the conversation, just being around James made his heart and head happy.
“Are you?”
“Parodon?” Zemo asked, tilting his head in confusion.
“Are you seeing a therapist?” James clarified. Zemo blinked in shock. No one had asked him that before. Well Oeznik had, but not again once Zemo had told him no. His entire world revolved around Carl and keeping him happy, so wasting time and resources on therapy for himself would be pointless.
“No.” Zemo answered, keeping it short and to the point. He was not, and it was not up for debate.
“I see.” James responded, pursuing his lips. “This may be out of line, but I don’t particularly care. Have you considered seeing a therapist? I think it might benefit your son if he saw that you were also actively taking measures to keep your mental health in a good place.” Zemo blinked, having to make an actual effort to keep the smile on his face.
“Well, thank you for your opinion. I will take it into consideration.” He wouldn’t but that doesn’t matter. It would keep James happy and Carl would stay happy, and he wouldn’t be happy but what does that matter? Keeping everyone else happy was key to staying in control.
“Right.” James sounded like he didn’t believe him, but Oeznik pulled up right after. Zemo held out his hand for a shake.
“It was nice conversing with you, Mr. Barnes. Please, do let me know if you have any more concerns regarding Carl.” Zemo said as James shook his hand.
“Of course, and just Bucky, please.”
Zemo nodded and ducked into the passenger seat of the car. Oeznik was in the driver's seat, and Carl was sitting in the back. As Carl started to excitedly tell him all about his day, Zemo allowed himself to drift into a semi-conscious state.
When they arrived back home, Oeznik started on dinner preparations and Zemo went over all of Carl’s school work with him, before sending him off to play in his room until dinner. After checking in on Carl, who was playing superheroes, he headed into his office. While everything regarding the legal side of his finances and immigrant status in the US was technically complete, he still had to manage his own finances and continue adding to Carl’s trust fund. There was always work to be done, especially when you were a baron. So while waiting for dinner, he worked on some paperwork. The mindless task felt numbing, in a good way. It was simple, but he did need to be present for it, meaning that his brain was flooded by words and numbers instead of thoughts of Sokovia and his wife. Oeznik called for both him and Carl, so he gracefully exited his office, intercepting Carl on the way down to tell him to go wash his hands. He waited for his son, before they walked down the stairs together and into the private dining room. They had a dining hall for guests and meetings, but also a family dining room for their everyday meals. Today Zemo quietly asked Oeznik to stay, which he did. They enjoyed a family dinner, and Zemo could feel his emotional state improving every minute he spent with his son.
After dinner was completed, Zemo ran a bath for Carl and kept an ear on him while finishing up some paperwork. Once Carl had finished Zemo helped him get dressed, brushed his hair and sent him to go brush his teeth. After Carl had done that, he tucked him in and quietly told him stories about Sokovia, speaking Sokovian of course. Carl quickly fell asleep and Zemo just watched him for a few minutes, soaking in every detail of his perfect son.
He took a long shower, letting the water wash away the pains of his day. He completed his extensive skin care routine and eventually found his way into bed. He stared up at his ceiling for a long time, just thinking.
It took quite some time, but he did manage to fall asleep, for a few hours at least. Carl slept through the whole night for once, but he didn't. He woke up only a few hours after he had initially fallen asleep and had been unsuccessful in his attempts to fall back asleep. He sighed, and headed into his office.
If he couldn’t sleep, then he might as well work.

Journey
@oc-growth-and-development
(trigger warning : smoking, mention of death)
Another day, another restorative morning, as if nothing else can motivate me enough to finally cut my laze and start the new day already.
I got off my bed and my eyes instinctively gazed out the window beside me at the wall. As usual, there wasn't much outside, just the same trees and lawns you would find in any other neighbourhood, yet I never seem to get tired of looking at them over and over every time I wake up. It was like a part of my everyday morning ritual which I definitely shouldn't miss, and honestly, I was fine with it. I was not the type of person to actively look for spices in my life after all, and even if I start to crave for it someday, I just wait for it to come to me.
Otherwise, everything just gotta be restful, that's all I want, to be honest.
The water was pleasantly chill to bathe in, too, and so was the dawn's sea breeze swishing through the balcony as soon as the curtains were tucked out and the windows were pulled open. If anything warm right now, it was the brisk sun and the brimming cup of steaming café au lait thawing my bare arms and fingers as I stepped out to lean onto the grill of my terrace. My feet were bare as well, touching the cool tiles beneath them as I felt the tingling sensation through my nerves.
I was still in my pyjamas, my hair up in a bun and it was still seven. Other than some elder citizens walking outside to get the minty air rushing and stray cats and dogs yawning and stretching, the scene in front of me was almost deserted.
It all felt quiet, but it wasn't prickly. The birds were still tweeting, the bulk of leaves rustled in a shimmer, and I could even hear my sigh as I blew the hot vapour from my cup, my lips slowly savouring the coffee bit by bit. It was very peaceful, I liked it.
But unfortunately, it wasn't real.
"미스......미스.....일어나 미스!"
I jolted up from the unfamiliar voice presumably calling out for me. So it was all a dream? I wasn't enjoying a utopian morning at my balcony back in Miami?? But it all felt so real....from the taste of coffee to the warmth I felt of the drink. So it was all my imagination? Wow huh....looks like the power of my mind is going to be a mystery to me for a while. I never knew that my brain could fool me into believing that I was relaxing at my home, and not dozing off in a Korean tourist bus.
"Ugghmm...Huh?" Still groggy from my sleep, I blinked twice before looking outside the window of the bus. By the look of it, I think we had come to the final stop. Before letting out anything else from my mouth, I silently turned my gaze onto the one who broke my slumber, namely the bus conductor.
He is looking right at me. Come on, say something....!!
"U-Ummm...." I stumbled, my index slowly moving to point at the complex the bus had stopped near at.
"역???" I cringed as I tried to pronounce the exotic word. Fuck. I didn't expect my voice to crack right in front of the bus conductor. And before anyone raises a question, no. I don't know Korean. I just happened to memorize only the important words I might need to communicate during my journey to Korea. But while I was still at home I felt pretty confident in myself, what happened to me now? It wasn't unusual of me, I am a human after all and I get nervous at times too. Yet it was.... surprising.
Hmm...it must be the anxiety of being in an alien country where everything is different from what I am aware of and what I have experienced so far. Different ambience, different language, and different people. Very strange and foreign, to be frank. But fresh and young, like a bite of a ripe green apple.
Nevertheless, the conductor just laughed at me and patted my shoulder very strongly. Ouch but Woah, now I could see why he was hired as the conductor. Strong arms, sharp eyes, along with a charm of his own to make people at ease. Even to a 'lost' newcomer like me.
"Yes yes! 역! Correct! Wanna come out??" With a grin twinkling on his bright face, he stepped away to let me through. I felt more relaxed than before as soon as I heard English from him, and it was pretty fluent too.
A small relieved smile broke on my lips too as I grab hold of my guitar case and my backpack and get up. My legs had gotten a bit numb inside my boots from not moving them much throughout the ride, and my jacket was almost off my shoulders.
"감사합니다" I quickly muttered before adjusting everything on me and stepping out of the bus. I didn't want to stammer again and, even if I wasn't in a hurry, I still wanted to make sure I reach where I was called to at an early hand.
"Have a safe journey!" The conductor waved at me, and I gladly turned around to return the gesture before entering the lobby. After I had made it inside, I left my belongings at a convenient place and went to the bathroom to fix my face and clothes.
I had been travelling for almost twenty hours; An eighteen-hour flight and a two-hour bus. It was back-to-back, and hardly I had the time to refresh myself properly and smoke a bit, but now was my chance to do so before I carry on to reach my destination.
With the help of the large mirror on the wall, I first removed my contact lenses and then washed my face and combed my hair. It had grown pretty long. But I wasn't planning on cutting them any sooner. I also dusted my jacket and jeans off and straightened my t-shirt inside.
After I was sure everything had been set, I put my lenses back on and vaguely looked around the room, and finding no one except me, I quickly stand near the ventilator above me and light my cigarette. What I was doing right now poses a threat to my health and is illegal, but this was a guilty pleasure of mine. I admit it shamelessly because why not. I have nothing to lose. We all are gonna die one day, so it's better we make the most of our lives and I was just doing that. Nothing more, nothing less.
Just because I said I don't seek adventure vigorously, does not mean I don't have any thrill in my life at all. I do have it. Everyone has it. You just gotta make it interesting in your way, and that's how you gotta roll, champ.
Anyways, after a couple of puffs, I got disposed of the cigar and shooed off the smoke around me. It was only after everything seemed clear that I washed my life hands and dried them, then left the restroom and grabbed my luggage back before I started to stride again, to the reception counter.
After all the formalities were taken care of, I finally breathed the outside air of Korean afternoon. The sun was luminous and overhead, but the heat wasn't as severe as back in Miami. The number of clouds here are much more than there, or was it just for this particular day? I had no idea.
I am not a tourist here. I came here for a business trip, you can say. A man from here, a freelancing musical artist, had personally requested and invited me for a musical collaboration. The deal itself sounded quite intriguing, also with the fact that I'm half-Korean thanks to my father's lineage, yet ironically I have neither ever seen Korea with my own eyes nor I have witnessed its culture. Until today, that is.
So here I am now, strolling in the middle of the bustling city surrounded by college students touring around, laughing and talking with their classmates and munching on unique dishes and snacks I had never seen before. And while I was busy observing them, someone bumped into me, breaking my contact.
"Oh! 실례합니다!" It was a young blond guy, wearing a light blue hoodie with a couple of smiley badges pinned to his chest. He quickly bowed after apologizing and for briefly taking a glance at my face, hastily trots in the opposite direction. I eyed him, judging by his clothes and the books he was carrying in his arms, he looked like a college student. Hmm...no wonder why he was in a hurry. He must be late to class or something.
But anyway, I continued walking. That musical man had told me to wait near the back alley of a coffee shop that was close to the station. Hmm, that would be easy to locate. The coffee shop was right in front of me! Hah, how easy.
And so, without wasting any time, I ambled towards the cafè. It was a cute little shop, in my opinion. The smell of roasted coffee beans and bubbling creamy milk was evident in the atmosphere, and the colour scheme of the shop had pallettes of vanilla and caramel. It was like I had entered not a shop but inside a nestling coffee cup! Pretty cool, especially for someone who loves coffee like me.
Also, a bunch of customers were inside too. This place was not lonely at all. Some couples were on a date, singles who just want peace of mind with a complimentary cup of coffee, and business workers too! To be honest, I liked one of the employee's suits too. It was of a short brunette woman with glasses. She was kind of cute too. And by how she was still typing away rapidly on her phone even while on her break, tells how much of a busy woman she must be. Damn, God forbid that I ever be this much busy in my career.
Working even at breaks. Scary, in my opinion.
Needless to say, that wasn't why I was here for. The city was new to me so naturally, I would be curious, but business comes first in such a case. And in this case, it's my case. So bringing myself back to schedule, I leave to the back alley, waiting for that man so we could finally meet after talking through emails and phone calls.
But......what was that man's name again?
Ah....Zen.....
Hmm, weird name. But as someone who prefers to be called CJ than Catherine Joseph, I am no one to say so. Or even judge so.
Zen......I wonder what kind of person he would be in flesh. Same friendly and confident as the impression of him in my mind? Or just some different personality I never saw coming? Well, only time will tell that. But right now, we wait.

Runeterra Retcons 1: Thresh
This is something that I did today. I plan to make this an on-going series (might even take it to YouTube someday if I get the nerve to share my voice), but for now have it as a tumblr post.))
The world of Runeterra is one of the most interesting and complex fantasy settings in modern gaming; a fictional realm bustling with fantastical beings, characters, and a wide variety of plot points offering near endless potential for story-telling. The story of League of Legends is not, in fact, a singular narrative, but rather a collection of different stories spread out across a variety of fictional countries, continents, and even dimensions.
Runeterra as we know it today wasn’t always like this, however; in 2015 Riot Games opted to effectively reboot the lore of their world to be rid of the more restrictive plot elements like Summoners and the Institute of War to allow themselves more wriggle room to tell the stories they wanted to tell. While the decision to effectively make League of Legends non-canon to its own story was initially controversial, the writers of Riot Games have effectively proven themselves extraordinarily capable of using this newfound freedom to its full potential… For the most part.
With a retconned world came the need to retcon characters; Riot has made a substantial effort in the last few years to reimagine and redefine the backstories of the iconic Champions to make them fit into the new narrative, albeit with mixed results. Let’s face it: no writer is perfect and hindsight is 20/20, so a number of characters throughout the years have been left with less-than-stellar backstories compared to most of the roster.
Welcome to Runeterra Retcons, a series in which I’ll be analyzing some of the more controversial champion bios in the game to pick apart the good, the bad, and the horribly missed opportunities. With all that out of the way, let’s begin, shall we?
Episode 1: Thresh
Thresh is at once both an interesting and a bland character. He’s arguably one of the more iconic characters in the game, to the point where he’s practically become the unofficial mascot for the Shadow Isles. In-spite of this, I’ve long felt that Thresh is one of the most awkward fits into the region; before we can discuss the problems with his current lore, however, we first need to address Thresh’s backstory pre-retcon and see if we can analyze the core of his character.
Insert original lore here
So, we can see the concept behind Thresh’s character pretty easily: he’s a jailor who loves tormenting his charges, so much so that he continues to do so even after death. If you were to describe Thresh in a single word, it would probably be “sadistic.” Unfortunately, the original lore doesn’t give a lot beyond that; not where he’s from, not when he died, not even where his prison was located. The bio itself literally says that no one knows the details, and while that does add a faint air of mystery to the character, it doesn’t do much to tie him into the faction he’s supposed to represent: The Shadow Isles.
With that out of the way, let’s now take a look at Thresh’s new bio and see how Riot decided to change him after the retcon.
Insert new lore here
Alright, so, there’s a lot to unpack here. Perhaps the most notable change is that Thresh went from tormenting people to… Tormenting “living relics.” The relics are offered no further explanation in the lore or given any prior context. There’s just… A mirror with a soul in it. There’s a sentient book hidden down in the vaults. For some reason, the monks of the Isles even decided to stash a living person down there because he infused his body with raw magic. Why? Who was this person? What did he do to end up in chains? If this was a dangerous mage, wouldn’t it be better to build a proper prison for him rather than stuff him in a vault full of powerful, dangerous artifacts?
There are so many mysteries here, but perhaps biggest one is this: why was Thresh changed from a warden of people to a warden of relics? Why did they feel the need to turn him from a jailor who enjoyed tormenting his inmates to a curator that was slowly corrupted by the very magics meant to help him do his job? Well, I believe that’s meant to tie into the change made to the Shadow Isles themselves, or rather, the Blessed Isles.
While we never had much info on what the Isles were like before becoming an undead haven, a lot of the lore suggests that they were effectively a paradise, hence the name “Blessed Isles.” This was a place without war, without starvation, without corruption. Naturally, there would be no criminals in paradise, and so this of course means that to make Thresh a warden of things that are inhuman… At least, this is the thought process one might have until they introduce the mysterious regenerating mage, but I guess he’s meant to be one bad egg amidst the crowd, assuming he even came from the Isles at all. Again, it’s never really elaborated on.
So, while the change does make a degree of sense, it kind of feels… Flat. I mean, a guy who enjoys tormenting prisoners in their cells to hear their screams sounds a lot more terrifying than a guy who just stops his sentences halfway through to spite a book. Also, the fact that his lantern just becomes a seemingly endless vessel for souls because of the Ruination is a little silly; like, I know the Black Mist does all sorts of nonsensical things to matter, but the fact that an ordinary lantern gets turned into a relic arguably far more dangerous than anything Thresh was ever guarding seems kind of backwards, at least in my opinion.
So, how can we change this? How would I, personally, retcon Thresh if given the chance? Well, there are a lot of base elements that I would keep, but also some key components I’d like to alter. I’ve written up a short bio of my own for you all to enjoy, so without further ado…
In an age all but forgotten to history, there existed a realm known as the Blessed Isles. Hidden away from the world by a veil of magical mist, the Isles were a place of peace and prosperity; a land free of war, corruption, plague and misery. This paradise was ruled by an order of sacred monks devoted to learning and enlightenment. It was within this paradise that Thresh was born and raised by a pair of humble farmers, growing up surrounded by nature’s bounty.
Though expected that he might follow in his fathers’ footsteps, Thresh showed an aptitude for learning from an early age. In-particular, Thresh seemed fascinated with matters of philosophy; the nature of the soul, morality, and other complex subjects were frequent on the boy’s mind. This attitude quickly earned Thresh the attention of the brotherhood, who invited him to join their order as soon as he was of age. Thresh agreed without hesitation, leaving the farm behind to study at the Isles’ monastery.
For many years, Thresh studied under the tutelage of the order, distinguishing himself from his peers for his ability to grasp complex philosophical issues. Though acknowledged by his teachers, Thresh was met with looks of envy and scorn from his fellow students; rather than let himself be disheartened, however, Thresh instead took an interest in the root of their envy in scorn. Upon approaching his elders with such questions, Thresh found himself being led to a secret chamber deep beneath the monastery, guarded by powerful wards and runes. It was here that Thresh learned the truth of the Blessed Isles.
Thresh watched as one of his fellow pupils stood surrounded by figured in ominous robes, chanting an ominous spell in unison. Thresh’s teacher explained to him that this was ritual had been used by the order for ages to ensure that the Isles flourished. Evil was present in all humans, and so the only way to ensure it did not corrupt their paradise was to extract it from the soul, and seal it away. As the ritual drew to a close, Thresh saw the essence of all the other student’s hatred, envy, malice and warped desire ripped from his body, and placed into a special lantern made to contain it.
Thresh was intrigued. He approached the lantern without hesitation as the other boy was escorted from the chamber, and to his surprise, he heard voice whispering to him from within. The monks explained that though the evils of humanity could be removed, they could not be truly discarded. They needed to be contained, and more than that, they needed a warden to watch over them. Thresh volunteered in a heartbeat, and the monks smiled, pleased by their pupils’ devotion.
What they did not know, however, was that the whispers in Thresh’s mind had already begun taken root. From that day forward, Thresh vigilantly stood guard over the lantern, watching each successive cleansing as it took place. Each time, the wicked essence in the lantern grew stronger, as did the whispers in Thresh’s mind. He began to dream of enacting twisted torments upon the monks, the other disciples, and even his own parents. Slowly but surely, the brotherhood noticed a change in Thresh’s behavior. Fearing that he himself would be subjected to their cleansing rite, Thresh stole the lantern and fled the monastery.
The monks chased Thresh for days, but their search was brought to an abrupt end when strange ships arrived on the Blessed Isles: something Thresh thought impossible. From the safety of the cliffs, Thresh watched in delight as a soldiers led by a foreign king massacred his fellow monks. Their screams were music to the warden’s ears, and as the chaos spread, Thresh found himself reveling in the suffering of all who fell to the foreigners’ blades. Even at the cost of his own life, Thresh dared to move about the battlefield, searching for survivors left in the king’s wake only that he may snuff out the remnants of their lives himself.
Finally, as the screams of his victims began to subside, Thresh turned his attention to the heart of the Isles. From there, he saw a cloud of pure darkness rushing to meet him, and opened his arms wide to embrace it. In that moment, all the wickedness trapped within Thresh’s lantern was freed, bound to his soul through the power of the Ruination. Thresh emerged a being of pure maliciousness, and his lantern, now empty, would serve as the perfect vessel to enact his twisted fantasies.
Thresh now roams Runeterra as an avatar of sadism, bringing pain and misery to all unfortunate enough to cross his path. He stalks his victims and torments them by slowly stripping them of their sanity, before finally prying their souls from their bodies with his wicked sickle. If you hear the sound of chains in the dead of night, run… Though it may already be far too late.
So, what did you think? Now, it’s at this point I feel I need to clarify something: I’m not trying to bash on Riot’s creative team, nor am I saying that I can definitely make a better version of someone else’s character. Hell, I’m not even really saying that my version of the story is flawless; it would probably need to go through several more rewrites before I’d ever consider publishing it as canon, not that I have the power to do so, of course.
Rather, I wanted to take a closer look at Thresh’s character and how well his current lore represents him. I said earlier that Thresh is at once and interesting and a bland character. I consider him a little bland because you can sum him up in a single word: “sadistic.” He has no goals and no motivation other than to cause pain and suffering. Even the other undead of the Shadow Isles typically have some kind of agenda, even if it’s only to spread the Black Mist’s influence. Thresh doesn’t care about that; he just wants to see you writhe in agony, both before and after death. I’d argue he has more in common in with League’s demons than the other specters of the Isles, but it’s BECAUSE Thresh is undead that he has so much potential for an interesting backstory.
The main points I wanted to emphasize in my rewrite are: expanding on the magics that corrupted Thresh into being so sadistic, giving his lantern some greater significance in the story, and replacing the vault full of otherwise pointless macguffins with something a little more sinister that gives the Blessed Isles a hint of dichotomy. Riot loves adding a little morally grey to all their characters and factions, after-all.
Anyways, what do you all think? Could Thresh’s lore be improved, or do you all like his story the way in currently is? Lemme know down below, and I’ll see you all next time!

oh, in that chase could i get headcanons or Scenario of Deidara With a fem!S/o who is part of the royal family (of his respective nation) but it´s also (and opposite of how it has to be a princess) a ninja of anbu level and it becomes a traitor of her nation when they discover the relationship
I’m still not that far into Naruto, so apologies if Deidara is a bit ooc. Hope you enjoy ✨
𝔻𝕖𝕕𝕒𝕣𝕒 𝕄𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣
As a member of the royal family, you had to abide by the etiquette that was imposed on you at a young age. It was important that, as the nation’s only princess, you act graciously.
You never found the appeal of pretending to be someone you were not, often rebelling against these royal rules.
However, you wouldn’t have to worry about these for much longer. Near your sixth birthday, an assassin would infiltrate the palace killing all members of the royal family, except you, before he was intercepted.
Left as the sole heir, you were destined to take the throne but because you were too young to rule an entire nation, self-appointed leaders began to appear. A civil war ensued, tearing the once peaceful country into shambles.
You had been sent to live with your uncle, the Third Tsuchikage of Iwagakure while the aftermath settled down.
The village was surrounded by mountain ranges, built from the same stone as those. Villagers, especially shinobi, were headstrong. They had rock-hard attitudes they applied to their lives. In fact, many of them practiced Earth Release techniques.
You quickly took an interest in becoming a shinobi to distract yourself from the pain of losing those closest to you. It wasn’t a healthy coping mechanism but your uncle allowed it. He thought if you used that as an outlet to let your anger and negative emotions out, you would eventually healed.
He was partly right. The events that occurred during your youth marked you permanently and would have led you into a darker, self-destructive path if it wasn’t for Deidara.
You met him through training. He was rather talented and his presence brought you peace. Deidara always seemed relaxed, even in battle, but that wasn’t what attracted you to him. It was his passion. More specifically, his love of art.
The two of you were resting from practice. “You see (Name), art is a fleeting moment of beauty that vanishes gloriously.” Though you weren’t necessarily an artist yourself, you nodded, holding your chin like a wise old man with a long beard. “Hm, art is explosive?” “Exactly!”
Being the Tsuchikage’s niece, you had more insight than the average genin. From time to time, you’d eavesdrop in conversations between high ranking nin and your uncle. “(Name) we know you’re there..” “!!!”
Your skills as a shinobi had improved dramatically throughout the years. Still, you were forbidden from joining any type of elite force as you were still an heir. “(Name)-sama, your safety is a priority. One day, you might become the next Tsuchikage if not the Queen of your country.” “Ugh! Uncle Ōnoki will never step down. He’s too proud to choose a successor.”
Deidara reluctantly let you braid his hair. He knew you were upset and knew that this was one of your most peaceful ways of distressing. Had it been someone else, he would have blown them away. “Deidara, you’re so lucky you get to join the Explosion Corps” you sighed mournfully.
The man in questioned mediated on your words. “I like using my clay sculptures in missions—” You interrupted, “They are great.” “But I want to be greater than this. I want my art to be elevated, yeah?”
Your fingers threaded gently down his scalp, giving Deidara goosebumps from the pleasant sensation. For someone who behaved rather roughly, you sure were tender with his hair. “I heard uncle talking about one of the village’s kinjutsu. It’s only passed through generations..”
Intrigued, your blond companion shifted positions to look at your face. “Supposedly it allows users to knead chakra into objects. Perhaps with your—”
It seems Deidara was thinking the same as you. “I could combine that with my Explosion Release!” He grabbed your hands, “(Name), do you know this technique hm?” You shrugged, “No. Only when I become—if I become Tsuchikage, I’ll be taught this.”
Deidara, initially excited, slumped. “That’s too long.” You couldn’t help but chuckle at his change in demeanor. “Are you in a hurry or something?”
Looking into your eyes, Deidara closed the space between you both. His stare felt intimate, speeding up your heart. “If I were to leave the village, would you come with me?”
You blinked in surprise before biting your lip guiltily. “I would love to, but I can’t. As much as I hate it, my duties lie within the village and my country.”
Deidara looked down, absentmindedly playing with your fingers. He said nothing but he didn’t have to, his actions spoke louder. “Why would you want to leave the village anyways? And, how would the two of us live a-alone?”
At your naivety, Deidara stood up ready to go but you grabbed his hand, stopping him in his tracks. “Wait. Don’t leave me..”
“Would you be able to locate the location of the scroll that contains it, hm?” You stood up, still not releasing from. “I guess so, but why—”
“Could you just do it…please..”
Perhaps you knew from that moment what Deidara had planned but you pushed yourself to think otherwise.
As promised, you used your skills to find where the scroll was being kept before passing on that information to Deidara.
He ran his fingers up your arms before settling on your elbows. “This face.. its so beautiful it should be considered art..” one of his hands settled on your waist while the other cupped your cheek. You figured what he was trying to do and kissed him. Passionately.
It lasted a while. Before this, neither of you had made a move. There were always the longing looks and casual yet intimate touches. Everyone around you noticed the closeness between the two of you, even deciding that you’d make a good couple. “You should go to sleep.”
“Okay..” you bid him goodnight. “See you tomorrow?” He smiled, “Sure.”
It was the middle of the night when you were awoken by loud explosive noises. Some of them shook the tower in which you lived. Clicking your tongue, you detangled yourself from the covers, running towards the window.
Curses left your mouth as you connected the pieces together. “Damn him..!” He’d really done it.
You rushed to get dressed and chase after Deidara. Though you were technically not allowed to leave the village, you could sort that out with your uncle later. You struggled to put on your shoes, jumping around in the darkness with one foot while the other refused to enter the shoe.
You weren’t given the chance as shinobi filled the room. Meeting your eyes with the Tsuchikage, disappointment reflected in them. He knew. He knew that you were the one that had given Deidara the information. The two of you were practically inseparable.
Bringing your other foot down, you didn’t spare anyone a last look before running towards the window and jumping. Shinobi were quick to follow but Ōnoki stopped them. “Let her go.”
The Tsuchikage was showing you the ultimate mercy he could afford. He was never a father figure to you, he knew that Deidara was the only person left who you loved.
Besides, you were an extremely skilled nin despite not joining a special unit. It was probable you would make matters more difficult for them. Not to mention, that no one knew if you’d stolen any secret techniques either.
You tried. You desperately tried to find Deidara now that you were considered a traitor. A traitor to your country and Iwagakure. There was no use going back.
Truthfully, you were lucky the Tsuchikage allowed you to go without repercussions. Like Deidara, you were now a rogue nin without means to travel or survive.
Speaking of which, Deidara seriously considered taking you with him even if it was by force but upon further thought, he couldn’t.
You were better off without him. By stealing from the Tsuchikage, Deidara knew he’d become a traitor and a fugitive. It was safer for you to not be associated with him. Maybe you could find a prince to marry or finally become the Fourth Tsuchikage.
His heart would heal with time. Deidara would be able to forget you, your face, your mouth, your soft lips..
Two years would pass before you found information regarding the whereabouts of your beloved. Word had it that there was a bomber for hire. People’s description of this individual sounded incredibly familiar so you sought him out.
Deidara had been hired by a mysterious person. He’d been given an address to meet and discuss the deal but they hadn’t shown up.
The place was bare so it couldn’t be a trap, but as the seconds trickled by he couldn’t help but doubt. As he was about to leave, a certain figure tackled him.
Deidara had not sensed them. Were they in the room the entire time?? He could barely process this as the cloaked figure grabbed his wrist and pinned them to the side of his head.
During the struggle, the hood fell revealing the individual behind this attack. You smiled, though the anger behind your eyes was clear. “I thought..” your hands tightened around his wrists “I had made it clear that you wouldn’t leave me.”
Not a lot of time had passed but you had become even more beautiful. Deidara couldn’t help but stare. Your face showed signs of maturity; eyes sharp and those sensual lips molding into a straight line.
You had abandoned everyone, everything you knew.. for him? You’d become a traitor, a deserter, a rouge nin for his sake. Was your love for him truly that strong?
Upon spotting the tongues on his hands, you tilted your head curiously, bringing back some of your innocence.
“Well, we can work with that.”

With These Hands Chapter 11
Look, I say we’re ending 2020 with affection and fluff! Also, now that I know what it’s like working in a hospital, I can write this AU better, and this episode has heavy influence from my first night call shifts. For my fellow healthcare workers, because this was...a year. Here’s to staying safe in 2021!
The rest of this chapter is under the cut or on FF.net and AO3
Chapter 11: Endurance
Admittedly, Kenshin’s stomach dropped when he saw her. She was limp in her chair, arms dangling at her sides and her face turned away.
“Kaoru-dono?!” He rushed to her desk, panic overriding sensibility. But before he could touch her, her eyes snapped open and her right fist lashed out in a glancing blow that brought him to his knees. Acting on instinct, he latched onto the edge of her desk, elbow colliding with the hard surface. “Oro!”
At the contact, she blinked away her drowsiness. “Ken…shin? Oh, no! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” She sat up, her fingertips brushing his aching cheekbone. The pain was already fading, and he resisted leaning in.
“This one is fine. It was this one’s fault, surprising you.” He managed to answer. Despite how his skin was buzzing, he was not going to behave like a hormonal teenager.
“I still shouldn’t have punched you.” She withdrew, her voice full of concern. “I hope it won’t bruise.”
“There have been worse hits that this one has taken, so don’t worry.” And on that same side as well, he ruefully thought. “Are you still working?” It was already past seven.
“I’m on night call.” Her explanation contained no small amount of misery. “And I had a meeting in the afternoon, so I only got an hour of sleep before I came here. It’s going to be a long Thursday night; at least, I have the weekend off. What about you?”
“This one is also in the same situation, filling in for a colleague who was supposed to work tonight. There was a family emergency, so this one is here instead.”
“Oh, good. Not that you have to work on short notice,” She hastily added. “But we can keep each other company.”
“That’s true. It will be easier to stay awake.” He would have been content to stay at her desk; he had nothing urgent at the moment. But she did, as signaled by her blaring pager. She mouthed an apology, before taking the call. Leaving her to her responsibilities, he drifted back to his spot across the room, to print his list of patients.
***
He was reading the interim notes on his patients when she commented.
“By the way, I forgot to mention earlier. I like your scrubs.”
“Oro?” The faded magenta met his downward gaze. “These are very old.”
“But you look so cheerful! The other male doctors stick to blue or black.”
“So did this one, in the past. However, brighter colors can be comforting or distracting for the children, so that’s something this one can do for them.”
“You also can pull it off, because you’re an attending.” She pointed out, and he laughed.
“There’s nothing wrong with navy either.”
“It’s not navy, it’s indigo.” Grinning, she tugged the front of her scrub top. “But it’s my favorite color.”
“It suits you very well.” Belatedly, he wondered if that was harassment, but she didn’t seem to mind. In fact, she blushed. At the sight, his own face warmed.
“Thanks.” For a heartbeat, the only sound was the humming of their computers. Abruptly stretching her arms over her head, she declared. “I need coffee. The cafeteria’s closed, but do you want anything from the vending machine?”
“This one can join you.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want to bother you if you’re busy, and you can just text me.” They had already exchanged numbers, thanks to the group chat Misao had started for the workroom.
“No, it will be a long night and this one prefers not to stay in one spot.” He pocketed his pager and stood from his chair.
Her smile widened. “Yeah, I won’t argue with that. And I’m glad! It’s more fun with you.” Her blush had not faded, and his cheek tingled.
He replied honestly. “This one feels the same way.”
Unfortunately, the closest machine had its interior lights off and the glass front bore a paper sign. ‘Out of Order’ was written in large block letters, punctuated by a frowning face. If he had to guess, it appeared to be the handiwork of either Sano or Misao, perhaps even a joint effort.
“That’s a shame.” He said. “Should we search for another?”
“Sounds like a plan! Let’s hope the others are still functioning.”
Their workroom was at the injunction between the main building and the children’s hospital, so they had options. He allowed her to decide, and she headed for the pediatric side. She swiped her badge to access a corridor that was glass on both sides, from ceiling to floor.
“This part is one of the best, in my opinion. Well, at least during the day.” Outside, it was dark, except for the street lamps. Occasionally, a car zipped past on the road below, illuminating the surrounding greenery. But he understood her. When it was sunny, they were provided with a scenic view of the city beyond.
“Yes, it’s the closest we have to stepping out. It’s important to have something to look at, other than the interior of the building.”
“Right? I always feel more rejuvenated when I go through this way. Although, I do love the murals in the children’s hospital.”
“Which do you like best?”
“Hmm. I think the bamboo forest, on the sixth floor. The animals are cute, the pandas and the tanuki.”
“Also, because that is where shinai come from?” He innocently referred to her love for kenjutsu.
“Okay, a little bit.” But she laughed. “Well, which is your favorite?”
He already had an answer. “The fourth floor, with the countryside motif. It reminds this one of his childhood.”
“You were a country boy?”
“In the Kansai region, yes. However, it has been almost twenty years since this one lived there. This one doesn’t even remember the closest town. We did grow rice and vegetables, and there were some chickens.” He pieced together the fragmented memories. “But it was a very long time ago.”
“It must have, I couldn’t tell at all.” She was thoughtful, and he realized he might have shared too much. But she didn’t pry, instead asking. “Did you have any baby chicks?”
“Not that this one can remember.”
“That’s too bad.” Disappointment showed on her face.
He smiled. The image of Kaoru, cradling fluffy chicks in her arms, was sweet.
In a corner near an empty waiting area, they finally found a working vending machine. Kaoru cheered at its presence, peering within to decide on her snacks. She was terribly adorable, depositing her change and punching the buttons. Holding her coffee and a package of chocolate-covered biscuits, she beamed. “Alright, your turn!”
As she walked past, he caught the scent of jasmine flowers. Too subtle to be perfume, it must have been her shampoo. He thought it was pleasant.
“Kenshin? Aren’t you going to buy something?”
He jolted, realizing he hadn’t moved. “A-ah, yes.” Breathing deeply to settle his nerves, he chose a bottle of green tea, and the same cookies she picked. She had already opened her drink and sipped it as they walked back.
“Whew, I feel a lot better.”
“That’s good. You need your strength for the hours ahead.”
“Yeah. I still wish I had more sleep, but I just remind myself that at least, I’m not in one of the hospital beds. That was much harder.”
“And now, you’re here. Your patients are extremely fortunate to have you, because you understand what it must be like.”
Her blush had returned in full force. She nodded, before her brows drew together. “Wait-”
Overhead, the loudspeaker crackled, calling for a medical response team. They both stopped, listening attentively. The alert meant that a patient’s condition was deteriorating. He checked his list as the room number was announced. It did not belong to any of his charges, and judging from how Kaoru exhaled, it wasn’t any of hers either. But elsewhere, someone was struggling and their colleagues were doing everything they could to save them.
As they approached familiar walls, it was his pager’s turn to vibrate, and reluctantly, he excused himself.
***
After midnight, he had one emergency surgery, for a patient that had gone into hemorrhagic shock. Two hours later, he emerged from the operating room, the worst outcome kept at bay. He ordered for two units of blood, to be transfused if the patient was anemic, and headed back to the workroom.
Kaoru had her earbuds in, obviously engrossed. Upon his entrance, she removed them and greeted him. “Hey, Kenshin. How’d it go?”
“Well enough. The patient is stable for now, but this one will keep a close eye. Did you have any new admissions?”
“Just one in the emergency room, who’s waiting to be placed in a room, but it seems like a straightforward case. History of glycogen storage disorder, so I’ve been reading up.”
“This one didn’t realize articles were accessible on CD.” He had noticed the small player next to her keyboard, that had appeared in his absence.
“Oh, no, this is an audiobook. It’s an old one, I already know all the twists. I only replay it because of the narrator.” Her expression became very fond.
“Ah.” Inwardly, he was caught off guard, but he maintained a neutral face. “Is he a good actor?”
“I think she was. This book is one of my mother’s recordings, after all. Would you like to hear her?”
Somewhat embarrassed, he agreed, and she transferred the CD to her computer. Momentarily, a woman’s gentle voice filled the air. Her cadence and intonation were similar to Kaoru’s, and she switched between characters with impressive ease. It seemed to be an anthology of short stories.
“You were not wrong; her performance is wonderful.”
“I’m glad you think so! She’d be happy to hear that, if she were alive.” Kaoru clarified. “She had lupus, and she passed away from kidney failure when I was young. She couldn’t get a transplant in time. The Mirror Wing in the main hospital is named for her.” The dialysis unit was located there.
“You must miss her.”
“I do, but at least, I have Okaa-san in this way. Not many people can say the same.”
He definitely couldn’t. Then, the staccato beeps of her pager interrupted them again. He was beginning to dislike that particular ring.
By three in the morning, Kaoru was starting to falter. She was continuing to type on her computer, but her head nodded and she occasionally jolted, unconsciously trying to stay awake.
“Kaoru-dono.”
“Hmm?” Her gaze lifted, though not quite focusing.
“Please, get some rest. The work can wait.” He gently said. “This one can turn the lights off, if that would help.”
“Would you? That’d be really nice.” She murmured.
He flipped the switches, leaving the glow of his monitor. “If there was a bed, that would be better.”
“It’s okay. Hospital beds aren’t very comfy.” She certainly spoke from experience. She opened one of her desk drawers, taking out a spare surgical mask. “Please don’t tell anyone else in your department.”  Before he could inquire further, she proceeded to wear it over her face, and it was large enough to cover her eyes.
He had to stifle his laughter. “This one promises.”
It was uneventful afterwards, without beeping pagers or loudspeaker announcements. He lasted another hour and a half, before he felt the familiar pull of exhaustion. He logged off and sat back in his chair. He could never fully sleep while on the job. That was especially true now, with Kamiya Kaoru in the same room, softly breathing.
It was Director Kamiya who had offered him a place at Kamiya Kasshin, while he was still working for Katsura. He had been disillusioned and burnt out, entertaining ideas of quitting medicine. He was too ashamed to talk to Hiko, but he caved to the “fates” as his guardian liked to refer to them. Akane, Kasumi, and Sakura had sat him down, persuading him to take the new job before deciding anything further. Akane was particularly fervent, she had never liked Katsura.
So, he had accepted the position and adjusting to the new work environment occupied him. Then, the accident happened. It was on a night not too different from this one, and he had also been on call. He heard there was a group of people, on the phone with the director at the crash site, trying to obtain details. He had run to that desk, preparing to encourage the man who had helped him so far. It was at the other end of the hospital and he was relatively late, everyone else mobilizing for the victims’ arrival. When he picked up the phone, he was out of breath. “Kamiya-dono?”
Instead of Director Kamiya’s voice, there was a young, feminine one. Choked with tears, but still strong. “Hello? Please, can you hear me?”
One fateful conversation, and she reminded him of what he loved about his profession. But she didn’t seem to remember. That was alright, the memory was wrapped up in tragedy, and he didn’t want to hurt her. Getting to know her was enough. Even after six years, she was very much the same woman he had spoken to. Compassionate, brave, honest.
Hiko, being his usual infuriating self, had accused him of having a crush, although Kenshin was disgruntled. Not that Kaoru wasn’t attractive, but it was not the point. It wasn’t a crush, he was immensely grateful to Kaoru as well as her late father, for his current life. Originally, he was trying to repay their kindness, in what little he could manage on his part. So far, he enjoyed spending time with her, even when on call. Around her, and for that matter, their other workroom colleagues, he felt at ease in a way that he hadn’t experienced in decades.
But if she asked about him…? He hadn’t decided what he would do yet.
***
Kenshin slowly emerged from his trance. The blinds had been opened, the sky pink with dawn. He clicked his mouse and the monitor lit with the time. Just past six. Night call was almost over.
Kaoru’s chair was empty, and he drowsily recalled her rummaging about, before the door closed. She must have gone to pre-round on her patients, to check on them before meeting with the rest of her team. He hoped they would let her go before noon.
He relayed the night’s events to the day shift’s surgeon, who insisted that everything would be taken care of and please get some rest, Dr. Himura. But he went to check on his shock patient, who was thankfully stable. Then, the parents arrived in the waiting area, and he took the opportunity to speak to them. By the time he returned to retrieve his things, it was already ten. Kaoru was also there, greeting him as if she hadn’t spent the night at the hospital.
“Morning, Kenshin!”
“Good morning. How were your rounds?” He inquired, clearing his desk.
“Quick, thank goodness.”
“And how are you?”
“I feel fine. Well, I know it’s fake, I’ll probably crash once I get home. I’m just going to submit my notes, and then, I’ll go.” She didn’t sit down, her eyes glued to her screen as she logged in. A few clicks, and then, she grabbed her bag. “Done! Geez, I’m ready to leave.”
“Good work, Kaoru-dono.”
“You too.” Despite how little she must have slept, her smile was as radiant as ever. “But you’re still here? I thought you would have been out by now.”
“This one had a few tasks, but this one was just about to leave as well. After you.” He urged her ahead of him. They shared an elevator down, luckily without any stops.
“Have you already eaten breakfast?” She asked.
“This one had a leftover rice ball. The cafeteria is…” His weary mind searched for a word that would be appropriate.
“I know, I really want Tae to expand her hours, but she can’t while she has her regular job. I think I have cup ramen in my pantry.”
“Next time, this one will bring enough onigiri to share.”
“Next time?” She repeated, emphasizing the implication of another call shift in the near future, but she was laughing. “Would they have caffeine in them?”
He smiled at her. “For you, this one will make an exception.”
Her cheeks grew pink. “Thank you, I’ll look forward to it.” After a pause, she added. “What would even be inside such onigiri? Instant coffee?”
Matcha powder actually, but he needed to perfect that recipe. “It would be a surprise.”
“Geez!”
They passed the lobby, and bright sunshine filled his vision. After spending so long in the hospital, it was a relief to be out in the open again. The cloudless sky was an immaculate blue, the fresh air crisp. Beside him, Kaoru sighed, her lips curving. The wind tossed her ponytail, and she shoved her hands in her pockets, continuing on. Suddenly aware that he was staring again, he picked up his feet. Then, they were already at the garage and had to part ways. Work had truly ended.
“Drive safe and sleep well! I’ll see you on Monday!” She waved and he did the same.
“Take care.”
There was no traffic, and his empty apartment was cool. It was quiet as he meticulously cleaned his belongings. As he walked to his bedroom, he barely made a sound. The shower seemed too loud, and so did the hair dryer. Slipping between his clean sheets, he noticed the lack of scent. After leaving his glasses on his nightstand, he checked his phone again. Nothing new, which was supposed to be good. He hovered over Kaoru’s name in the group chat. Well…it wouldn’t hurt. His thumb pressed down, and he began to type.
This one hopes you returned home without issue and that you have a relaxing weekend.
With the message sent, he locked the screen. She could reply on her own time.
And at last, he closed his eyes.

Garvez Moments part 10
I want to apologize for the long time. I had a writer block and the ideas were gone and I did not the best ideas.
Chapter 10: Honeymoon
The couple left to Peru - Lima. They took an airplane from Washington to the long travel to the south American country.
They arrived early the next day, and they were really tired and just check in and sleep a couple of hours.
Later that day they took a shower and after dinner they took a short walk just to see the hotel surrounded area.
"I never imagined to come here or even getting married" said Penelope smiling at him.
"I'm happy then.... because I want to do things we never thought we could do" He smiled and kissed her.
After that they returned to the hotel and up to their room where they slept all night long. Then at morning they got ready to the tour to Machu Picchu.
They woke up hugging each other in bed. Penelope checked her phone after removing her sleep mask "babe... it's time to get ready"
He kissed her cheek softly "I will take a quick shower and while you take yours I will go to get us breakfast"
After Luke did as he said, she got in the water and took a long shower and when he arrived she was putting on her shoes "I'm not use to wear sneakers but I don't want a broken ankle so..." she said putting on her shoes.
They ate a sandwich with coffee and later left to depart from Cusco, with pickup from your hotel and a transfer from the city center to your train station. They chose the Expedition train, the Vistadome, with glass on all sides for a better viewing.
Then they enjoyed a scenic train ride,  with stunning views of the mountainous terrain that makes up the area near Machu Picchu.
They arrived in Aguas Calientes, the small village located at the base of this famous Inca site, and board a bus for the short ride to this sacred citadel.
On their way the tour guy, with a thick accent, explained "Machu Picchu was completed around 1450, when the Inca Empire was at the peak of its power and influence, the site was left vacant within 100 years of its creation, thanks to the conquest of the Inca people by the Spanish. Though the site today remains abandoned, many believe Machu Picchu to be a key center of spiritual energy..."
"I'm sure Reid would be correcting this guy or even saying facts about how they sacrificed their children to a god" said Penelope in a whisper to her husband.
"Or telling us what the name means and everything about it" they laughed softly as they imagined boy genius voice talking.
They followed their guide through the main streets of the marvel of ancient engineering. Learning about the site’s history and design as they meandered and taking photos through the town square, key religious sites, an elaborate network of agricultural terraces, and intricately-designed stone staircases.
After spending a few hours at the site, they returned by bus to the train station in Aguas Calientes and then to their chosen train for the trip back to Cusco and their hotel.
Penelope felt tired but happy. The height did not bothered as much as she thought and spending some time with her handsome husband were worth the money and the long travel.
Fourteen hours later they couple were back resting in their hotel room. The helicopter tour will be in two days so they planned to walk around, try local food and buy presents.
They spent one of those days at the pool. It was summer season in the South so the heat was perfect for the pool.
The next day they left to the airport to get aboard the helicopter.
They arrived and there was a man with black hair and tanned skin. He was wearing a blue jacket and jeans with a hat.
"Welcome to the Alejandro Velasco Astete Cusco International airport. I'm Felipe Gomez and I guess you are Luke and Penelope Alvez?"
They both nod "nice to meet you Felipe, I guess you are Dave's friend right?" Said Luke smiling.
"Yeah I am" he smiled "he booked this flight for you as a present for you as a wedding gift. And I owned him a free flight" they looked at him with raised eyebrows "let's say he won a bet and one of the things included were a free flight" they laughed "today I will be your guide and Alex, my brother will the pilot. You will look Sacred Valley from up high in our helicopter" he led them to the helicopter "as FBI agents you must know the safety rules but as a law requirement I have to inform you" he took a moment to do it then they all got in and they took off.
Once in the air, they headed towards the Sacred Valley, specifically to two of the most magnificent Inca constructions: Maras and Moray.
"Ok let me tell you about the places we are going to. Maras is a salt extraction center that has been operating since the time of the Incas. It is made up of thousands of rectangular water deposits located on the side of a mountain, which together form an out-of-this-world landscape. And we will also pass over Moray, an enormous construction of concentric circles that worked as an agricultural laboratory"
The saw the Maras' white floor, there were some people walking on them and taking photos. Then the helicopter flew over Moray, a bunch of group of circles one inside the other like a football stadium.
The saw also the mountains around those two places and returned to the airport. The place was amazing and they enjoyed it.
The rest of the honeymoon was full of small tours around the city and watching more places in Cusco.
For their last night in Peru, they went to a restaurant to have dinner and the place had a dance floor so after dinner they dance some good Latin music and had fun.
"This was a lovely place and I hope we can come back because I think we missed some other historical places" she said as they walked to the hotel.
"I'm agree and spending this with you was the best" they smiled and kissed softly then arrived to the hotel to sleep and left for the airport to begin their journey back to the US.
OOooOOooOO
I hope you liked this. Next one will be the Garvez baby.

26th February 1981, 22h25
Yirina 'Bell' Grigoriev, Ex-KGB, Perseus
Entering the Cheyenne Mountain Complex by its South Entrance
The mission didn't even actually start as we were simply having our feet inside the outside part of the complex that we almost got our cover blown by a suspicious American soldier that I managed to kill thanks to the tomahawk that Naga gave me before moving to get here and after hiding the body of that poor devil right below a military truck, we could resume our infiltration and since Naga was knowing the place, he was the one taking the lead.
Our point of entrance inside the complex was in fact located at the south part of it as it was looking less protected than the north side and we can prove that since we managed to arrive inside the tunnel by its service door without been detected by any guards and lights from the outside but now that we got inside, it was going to be more complicated for us to get to our destination in the base since we don't know exactly what we could face.
We did some walk inside the main tunnel linking both entrances before we decided to retreat ourselves inside a little maintenance unit, to try to find a good plan to get to the archives room but also to avoid the few armed patrols going around to watch over the main tunnel. We stepped inside a little room with about 4 meters between each wall and it was a bit confusing to find myself in a little room like with Naga...
"Do you have a map or something of the place?" I asked him silently after taking off my hood, the heat making me sweat from having it around on my head as my equipment was doing the same.
"Hey, you should get your hood back on, we can't be recognized here," Naga advised me as he was staying near the door, putting his left ear against it to listen outside. "You're deaf or something? put it back," He ordered to me.
"Why I should have it every time? I got nothing to hide," I replied, having my XM4 in my right hand and the hood in the other one in its palm.
"Maybe but we're inside one of the most protected American bases of the United States," He argued, looking at me through his sunglasses. "And besides, that's a rule in the Collective: you can't remove your hood like that," He added, shaking his head and putting it back against the door. "You want to have your head glued on some wanted poster on the walls of every West agency?"
"Okay but..." I rolled my eyes as I was realizing that he was right about not complying with that rule. "I'm just taking a free breath while we're in a little room with nothing to get us to spot so, relax," I suggested, taking a calm voice, not to compare about the one Naga is using.
"As you wish..." He breathed through his green & white detailed mask. "But once outside, you got this back on, understood?" He demanded to me.
"Of course," I complied, nodding at him. "So, at my initial..."
"Wait, keep quiet," Naga cut me in, gesturing with his right hand to keep my mouth shut as we start to hear some footsteps outside the room, prompting me to get near Naga without making any loud noises, wanting to listen to what was happening.
"Hank, nothing weird here as usual, over," It was the voice of a soldier right through the door, speaking either to one of his friends by radio or in person.
"Understood, you will get soon replaced by Walter," Another voice was heard, sounding a bit weird as we could realize that it was coming through a radio. "Hey, personal communications, there's this Hockey game between the Minnesota North Stars against the Boston Bruins, you should come to see it as you're a fan of the North Stars," The voice added, sounding less authoritarian than before and funnier.
"Yeah, did I miss anything?" The soldier asked, his voice getting a bit closer to the door as if he was leaned against it
"A lot of brawls, that's what you're missing, buddy," The voice through the radio replied in a personal way, making me & Naga look at each other in confusion...was it like that in every highly protected military basis of the Americans?
"And of course, you put me on patrol the night they're playing, we know well that there's nothing exciting happening here," The soldier sighed as I could see Naga's eyes rolling around through his sunglasses, finding it funny as I was keeping my serious. "I'm finished in two minutes and I'm coming in, over," The soldier continued before we start to hear footsteps going away from the door, Naga releasing a relieving breath through his mask.
"Dammit, typical of the Americans..." He said, looking to resist laughing on the part of his face that I could see. "Always talking about hockey, maple syrup, and their food, all of this, you know," He told, making me narrow my eyes. "What? What did I say?" He asked me curious about seeing me like that.
"Naga, that's the Canadians," I muttered at him, a smile on my face as I was surprised to hear him complain about the wrong people. "In here, it's more Burgers, fries, soccer, 'The American Dream', all of those things," I explained, moving away from the door while still keeping a low voice in the case of any surprises coming through the door.
"What? That's what Jackal told me about the USA!" He exclaimed, blaming his friend that I never saw for the moment since my foots landed on US soil. "He said to me that....did he lied to me?" He looked down away from me as if he did have a realization in his head. "Hopefully that I didn't go in public, I would have acted like a...Canadian like you said,"
"Uhm, excuse me?" A female voice, Wraith, was heard inside my left ear. "Can you two stop about talking of what the stereotypes of this country and be focused back on the mission?" She demanded to us, using a rather serious voice, never sounded so serious.
"Oh, sorry, I forget that you were there," Naga apologized, his radio in his left hand.
"I can hear you well, where are you exactly?" Wraith asked us.
"Now?" I started, putting my index finger on the earset in my left ear. "In a little maintenance room near the South Entrance," I responded, giving our possible location to her as we weren't having anything on us that could help to locate us inside for her. "We were hiding from patrols and to plan our advance inside the complex before Naga...well...you know," I added, Naga raising an eyebrow that could tell me that I didn't say the good words in front of him.
"Just, get back concentrated on the mission, I'll contact you if I've got anything for you...or contact me if you need help," She recommended in a good voice to us, acknowledging the risks and talking about the US now wasn't the thing to do before my earset went off for the moment.
"Well, let's not talk about the US and better on the mission, right?" I suggested to Naga who nodded at me instantly. "So, I'm asking my initial question again: do you have a map of the place?" I finally managed to ask that question and it's without any words that I got my answer as Naga got his hands inside his green tactical vest to take out a paper and unwrapping it, discovering a small detailed plan. "That's...that's the map?" I was surprised to see how little detailed the map was, looking not so good for me.
"Yeah, thanks Aldrich for that, the guy is drawing like a kid and even, a kid can do better than him," He replied, looking at the map and sighing at it, his eyes crossing around the paper. "Ah, we're here..." He said, pointing out to the bottom of the paper where a grey tube was drawn, especially a small gap in the tube. "...and we need to go there," He moved his hand across the map before stopping next to a big marked red circle with the words: ARCHIVES ROOM, HERE in red as the circle was showing a little room at one part of the base that was showed in blue.
"At least, Aldrich knows where we need to go," I mumbled, seeing the path that we were going to take to reach that room. "We just need to turn left at the first tunnel we're seeing and moving along it until we can join the room," I elaborate, taking the most perfect path that was short.
"We should try that and if we have doubts, we're checking back the map," Naga commented as he wraps back the map into a normal format and putting it back in his jacket before moving to grab back his LC-10 he leaned against a red barrel and open slightly the door to peek his eyes outside. "It's good, no one's around here, let's go," He said, taking a step outside as I followed him, putting my both hands on my XM4.
I stepped outside to get back inside the tunnel that was linking both entrances of the base, finding it empty of any American armed patrols and enlighten by green lights along with it as we started to move out away from the room we hide in to get ourselves deeper inside the complex, staying cautious and our fingers on the trigger of our guns, knowing that we can be surprised by a patrol and that ain't the thing we want...for now...
The first tunnel we saw going to the left was perfect for us but we needed to be aware as we were entering a high securitized sector of the base and despite my advice of taking another path, Naga insisted to take it as it was the fastest way to reach the archives room and I found myself to comply, entering a sort of little warehouse...
Of course, we weren't alone here but we got the advantage that the lights were turned off to take over the guards as their locations were now well known from us, we just needed to see where the lights were coming and we could know where the guards.
"Leave the bodies here, no need to hide them," Naga spoke up after we killed one of the last remaining patrols in that 'warehouse' that was keeping the access towards another tunnel near it, our objective as I was going to move one of the bodies away from the row we took care of that patrol.
"If we got our cover blown..." I mumbled, taking back my XM4 that I put on the ground and along with it, the radio that the guy I was going to drag was using.
"Don't worry, they will only find out when we will be gone," He assured me, sounding very sure of himself but not for me as he moved near the doors leading out of the warehouse. "A few meters and we're good," Naga said, opening the doors to peek his head between them."And it's good, follow me," He ordered, complying since minutes as always to stay behind him and he was right, only a few meters from the doors we took, the archives room was here...
"To say about been lucky," I thought to myself, finding that the base was in fact well constructed...for someone to get in here...
"And on the map, it says that the vehicle hangar is just nearby so we already got our evacuation transport for us," Naga scoffed while been focused on aiming in front of him as he was moving on the side to get his right hand on the handle of the door which was marked 'Archives Room: No trespassing!' "Okay, time for us to get into the most interesting part," He joked as he opened the door widely, discovering the room in the middle of it, a space with computers and some listening devices on the walls...but not only...
In the middle too, there were three men dressed up in blue work suits with a US Space Force ensign on their shoulders along with their names, and when everyone's eyes met with us opening the door, it was like we stepped in at the wrong moment but now, there was no time to be in a funny mood, me starting the first bullets towards one of the guys that were trying to flee to reach a big red button near the wall with the listening devices and killing him.
Suddenly, my gun stopped firing as I didn't reload, Naga having done the same thing along with me and now finding myself less stupid in here, causing me to grab the Tomahawk in my right hand and to charge the tallest one as Naga took the other one for him.
That guy was looking massive for me and he was ready to receive me at the impact but I saw it right into his eyes knowing that he was going to counter me at this, so, I stopped right at a respective distance from him, having started to move his arms to grab, only grabbing thin air as I threw the tomahawk right in his left leg, making him kneel and shouting in pain before I took it back, and then, slice his throat with the blade of the tomahawk in a straight line. He tried to stop the bleeding with his hands but it was useless as he falls on his back before I looked at Naga who was brutally stabbed with a combat knife the other guy that he managed to get over one of the desks....the blue work suit of the poor devil going red...
"Good riddance, Bell, get on this computer, that's your part," Naga ordered, cleaning up the blood off the blade of his knife on the dead guy's body, pointing with his other hand, one of the desks behind him and I complied, taking the moment to reload my XM4 with another mag before moving to reach the desk and sitting on the chair.
"Let's get started," I spoke to myself, stretching my fingers and hands before starting the computer again.
"Wraith, we're in!" Naga said, wanting to alert her from our improvement but to our surprise, nothing came back as a response. "Wraith, do you copy?" He asked, sounding a bit worried. "Wraith, are you here? We're in!" He repeated before he moved in front of me at the other side of the desk near the listening devices. "Fuck, either the communications aren't working here...or they got a jammer," He supposed as I was struggling at my side.
"Shit, it's asking me a password," I mumbled, finding myself block like an idiot again.
"Find something interesting, they're always keeping something giving us the answer," Naga suggested, prompting me to look around the desk, trying to find something that could help me but the only thing I could see was a picture of the US president, Ronald Reagan and to try, I typed his last name and...
"It worked!" I exclaimed, seeing a big green 'connection successful...processing...' on the screen. "They were using their own president's last name as a password," I said, Naga looking at me with narrowed eyes.
"That asshole? Even me would never use his name for something like that," Naga confirmed, making a little laugh through his mask.
"There, let's get down to business, shall we?" I told to myself as I needed to work with some magic to get exactly what we needed and after a few instants, I reached a repertory where there were 2 files..."I've got something about Greenlight...but also about that Numbers program..." I stated, seeing those two names on the screen.
"Try to print them, there's a printing machine just near me," Naga suggested as I was already going to find the command to do this, and just seconds after, the printing machine was already starting to process, and then, during that and while Naga was having his eyes on the machine, my eyes went on some audio tapes...two audiotapes that were near the computer...two having a familiar name on it...Stitch.
I took them in my hands by my curiosity, finding it weird that Stitch's name was on some audiotapes inside the Cheyenne Mountain Complex and I decided as Naga wasn't looking, to put them inside my jacket, wanting to check them personally in my side later when we'll be back at the safehouse.
"Got one...looks interesting, it's about Greenlight," Naga declared as he took in his hands the first paper that came out of the printing machine. "Keeping it for later, you'll check after the mission", He said, getting the paper in his jacket before his eyes went on the second & last paper he took in his hands. "And here's the..." He then stopped himself to look closer at it, the part of his face not looking good. "Wait, why is Aldrich's name mentioned in that paper? Said to be one of the supervisors of the Numbers program..." He revealed, feeling the anger in his voice.
"What does that mean?" I asked him, going up from my chair and taking the XM4 off the ground.
"That fucker lied to us, that's what meaning here, Bell," Naga replied, showing me briefly the paper in his hand. "He lied to us about the Numbers program, he knew it well,"
"Bell, Naga? Are you here?" Wraith's voice came back, surprising us. "Anyone?"
"Wraith, we copy, what happened?" Naga took the lead, responding before I could do so even if I decided to let him do it.
"I've got to change location, seems that the Americans are getting too much suspicious, do you get what we need?" She responded in a normal voice as the sound of a car engine was heard through my earset, probably driving away from the shack we met with Naga earlier.
"Yes, we..."
"All units, intruders in the base, I repeat, intruders are in the base!" The voice of a man echoed all around the room through a speaker on the corner of the room. "Intruders are in the base, deadly force is authorized if necessary!" The voice added before the alarm went off along with the light, going red.
"Shit, Wraith, they spotted us!" I raised my voice, starting to move with Naga on another door and staying behind him.
"Fuck, get the hell out of here!" Wraith ordered us as Naga force open the door in front of him with a big nudge. "Meeting at the extraction point with the others, out!" She added before her voice was no longer heard.
"Quick, Bell, to the vehicle hangar, follow me!" Naga shouted as the alarm was going off, the hallways enlighten with red lights and during my run...I was starting to hear voices again...multiple voices before it became only one...I was still running behind Naga, staying focused on it...but the voice was still around here in my head.
"We'll soon take control of the Numbers..."
"From the safety of..."
"I'm sorry but you become dangerous for him..."
These voices continued in my ears, like echoes until we arrived in the hangar of the complex after killing along the way some soldiers that tried to stop us and by chance, we didn't get greeted by bullets for the moment as our eyes were looking around to see a perfect vehicle for us.
"That APC," Naga pointed to me the big armored APC in the middle of the hangar, well-positioned to be already driving away. "Get on the turret, I'm taking the wheels," Naga suggested, running towards the APC and I soon complied to his suggestion, climbing up to open the hatch for the MG gunner in the back of the APC as Naga was moving to reach the driving post.
"They're here, open fire!" I turned around when I saw a squad of soldiers arriving from the very same door that we used to get here as I was positioned well on the gunner position, causing me to take the MG in my hands and to open fire in their direction, hitting two of them as the others were getting in cover.
"Brace yourself, we're leaving," Naga scoffed, keeping a positive and funny attitude not like me before he starts the APC engine and driving away from the hangar while under fire from the soldiers coming inside the hangar.
He drove the APC in the main tunnel, wanting to turn to his right to reach back the South Entrance and leave by it but the doors of it were already closing in and the APC wasn't looking good to force it without getting useless and with only a second to react, he instead turns to his left to get to the North Entrance, hoping that it would be open.
The soldiers were still trying to stop us along the way, causing me to use the MG on them, and also on the attempts to stop the APC. It became a pursuit when some cars arrived behind the APC to catch us, prompting me to get focused on them, firing at them with the best of the MG I was controlling, Naga not helping me in his driving as he was making zigzags to avoid the home-made roadblocks on our way out but at least getting one truck out of action...
"Hold yourself!" Naga shouted to me as I turned my head around for a second to see that the North entrance was soon getting closed and he managed to pass with the APC through the gap between the two sides of the door as the other trucks pursuing us stopped in their moves inside the tunnel. "Woohoo, that's so great, one more and it'll be good," He added as there was one grilled fenced portal to pass until we were out but then...
As I was going to put my hands back on the MG that I suddenly feel pain in my right shoulder, causing me to fall inside the APC, seeing Naga driving it before I look at my shoulder, seeing some blood coming out of a bullet hole...that pain...I was hit by a bullet and the pain was impossible to ignore.
"Naga...I...got...I got shot," I tried to say while moving up slowly towards one of the benches of the APC, not wanting to stay laid down on the metal ground to try to stabilize my wound as a loud shock was hear inside...meaning that he got us outside.
"What?" He muttered before he turned around his head for a second to look at me, holding my shoulder with my left hand. "Shit, hold on, Bell, I'm driving as fast as I can," He tried to reassure me, keeping his eyes on the road as my head was slowly getting dizzy.
We didn't bring first-aid equipment with us and I tried to find something that could stop the bleeding temporarily until proper healing was done on me and in the APC but there was nothing that I could really use for apart from my hand that was getting filled slowly with my own blood and by looking at it, my head was getting dizzy faster, struggling to keep myself alive before I, unfortunately, fall on my back on the bench, trying to stay awake at my best...not wanting to pass out or cry...I tried to...getting the hood off my head but that was the last thing I could do now...
...feeling my body shutting down before my eyes closed too...passing out on that bench...
