both have been deeply wronged by society
unstable but also instantly aware that they’re more compatible than either is comfortable with
insane, muttering, constantly arguing with them-self
black curls that’s longer the deku’s hair normally is. scarred so badly. but decent skin. eye bags, big green eyes. Mikumo vibes
twitchy hands, will scratch anywhere, plays with lip, constantly writing. hands are never still
wears one fingered gloved so he doesn’t decay everything constantly
a genius, master of planning and deconstruction. take the moral limiters of izuku and he could end any hero quirkless
has a level of morality but it’s hard to define. totally down for crime most of the time, loves fighting, but doesn’t target kids or civilians. has a lot clearer motives than shigaraki did alone

paranoid
quirk is just... oof. like a nuke going off basically. so fucking destructive, and you know they know how to use it
hates everyone including them-self
self aware of their situation. recognized that they’re being used and targeted and manipulated. on both ends. Shigi sees how he’s being used by afo, Izu sees how the adults in his life have failed him
honestly kinda baby, they need fucking love
hero students and lov members would put aside differences to help them honestly. the world wouldn’t be okay with it, but their friends are loyal
not quite a villain anymore, but definitely not a hero. constantly has internal conflict over this. like they don’t want to give up on hero dreams times 2 but also recognize how utterly fucked society is and wants to tear it down. they’re so full of hate, but want to maintain hope just out of spite at this point
whatever the hell they’re doing they’re not giving up on it
has the power to reshape society and is going to fucking use it
i don’t need to tell you that they’re fucking terrifying
togodeku

will hunt you for sport
incredibly fast, loves running and chasing in general
bunny themed outfit still
changing into others is one of their passions. izu lowkey loves this quirk. they’re experts at mimicking others. izuku’s analysis skills makes them too good at this

self centered, has a lot of enemies. including endeavor and bakugou, and every middle school bully.
more empathetic though, can have friends and value them, just don’t piss him off because he will hold lifelong grudges
very good at switching back and forth between scary and threatening to cute and innocent. usually the innocence is mocking but it can read as genuine
a good actor in general, but a terrible liar
quirk is not doing him any favors, still has the feedback, but flaming tentacles gives him more control over the fire itself
reads a lot of comic books
a hypocrite
likes to dramatically point at things while shouting

good at pissing people off
kinda deserves to get the shit beaten out of him, and i feel like bakugou can pull it off
twicedeku
neurotic
they love their friends so much though
oblivious as hell
like a genius in observation and knowing stuff, but a dumbass at applying that knowledge
would make a good information broker if they could learn to shut the hell up
are they basically deadpool? kinda.
short green hair, cut close to their head
long face, covered in scars, tallish, looks like an adult
pouts and cries easily
smartass
talks to himself x2 god help us
overpowered with his quirk. god help us
laughs at his own jokes
always hungry
winks at the fourth wall
has many stims and hobbies, hands are litterally never not doing something. he’s the kind of person you’ll glance away from, turn back, and find juggling.
we’re talking cat’s craddle, rubix cubes, instruments, puzzles, tearing up candy wrappers, painting his nails, braiding friendship bracelets. he is never still
directionless. lacks motivation
internalizes criticism really easily, to the point that he gets depressed and struggles to act
indecisive to a clinical degree
probably has and anxiety disorder but refuses to acknowledge it
is pretty fucking baby. protect him
spindeku
lol what a nerd
fanboy x2
cries easily. izuku’s habit of crying does not decrease
ultimate ride or die
still a lizard, mohawk is green instead of pink
mixed feelings on stain
searching for the ultimate person to stan. all might stays in their heart, but they want to be edgier
absolutely uses a sword. not the dumb one that spinner uses but it is still a buster sword that’s too large for them. they’re strong enough to swing it around like nothing, i’m picturing cloud from final fantasy’s sword. again they’re really nerdy
disillusioned with society and heroes. both are marked by discrimination and have recognized the failure of heroes and government. aren’t as bitter but determined to do something
sassy but not quite sarcastic
gives really good advice. the friend you go to to have an emotional breakdown
considering pursuing psychology more for this reason. realizes he can use the skill to help a lot of people
isn’t willing to give up fighting or using his sword though. he has an aesthetic
would get along fantastically with tokoyami
also the friend that feeds you. can’t cook very well but always has something on him to give you when he notices you haven’t eaten in a long time.
loves bubble tea
social anxiety, if it weren’t for the fact that he already had friends and a mission, he probably wouldn’t leave the house
surprisingly close to shigaraki, enough of a gamer to play with him, and even gets away with calling him out
(i’m debating how comfortable i am with fusing kids with adults. it seems weird to me, especially the bigger the age difference)
(masterlist)

hate me (sometimes) - jasmine/daya
a/n: this ship has been on my mind for almost a week and i haven’t worked this fast in a while but something just hits different
title from the song by stand atlantic, feels like it fits them very well
ao3 link
“I fucking hate you,” Daya muttered, shuffling closer to Jasmine just to irritate her more.
“Emphasis on fucking? That seems to be the only thing you’re good at” The blonde shot back, her lips curling into a smirk that made Daya’s blood boil.
“I bet you think about that all the time,” The look on Jasmine's face told Daya all she needed to know, though her shock was quickly replaced by a grin, as she poked Daya’s cheek. “Only when I have to remind myself you’re not the worst, just a bitch.” Jasmine laughed, a sound that used to be so horrible and obnoxious but Daya couldn't help but feel endeared by it, though she would never dare to say so. It was still a noise that could only be described as a possessed seal, but it could be worse.
“A bitch who knows how to make you squeal.” As much as she wanted to shoot back a smart answer, Daya found herself staring, looking at the girl next to her, and moving even closer. Their legs were touching and it took all her self-control not to lay her hand on Jasmine’s thigh, instead of drumming on her own to keep herself from making a move.
“Making me make noise isn’t exactly hard.” “No, I didn’t know you knew how to shut up.” “I save it for special occasions.”
Jasmine stared at Daya, curious as to her sudden lack of a retort, only staring at her hands in her lap like nothing else in the world existed.
“Oi, don’t say you’ve finally learned to tune me out.” Jasmine poked her shoulder, Daya looked up to shoot her an annoyed glare but it fizzled out as she saw the genuine concern in Jasmine’s eyes. The blonde slid her hand over to Daya’s giving it a gentle squeeze.
Her stomach twisted, her stare faltered at the show of care. Daya could feel her face flushing and didn’t want to admit it.
Part of her felt safe with jasmine, below all the petty bickering like a competition to see who could get the last word in. But admitting it felt impossible and incredibly stupid.
“Is your blood sugar low?”
Maybe she’d listen to that hesitant voice inside if the girl wasn’t so damn pretty, tilting her head in confusion as Daya continued her silence.
 “Daya, if something is bothering you, I can shut up long enough for you to talk about it. You’ve said yourself keeping things inside drives you crazy, that’s why you’re such a bitch sometimes.” “...Yeah.” The distant tone wasn’t missed by Jasmine but she knew not to pry, something about this felt impossible, that she’d never see this kind of vulnerability again and had to act carefully, not scaring her off.
After a painful silence, the smaller girl made the next move, pulling Daya into a tight hug that only made the feelings brewing inside her grow stronger. She liked this, the caring, gentle side of Jasmine that she didn’t know existed, and just the feeling of being so close to her. She let her head rest on her shoulder, taking a deep breath to compose herself as she felt a hand absentmindedly rubbing her back.
“I’m sorry.” “For what? It’s not that serious, the shit we say. No offense right?” “You’re kinder than I give you credit for.” “You being nice is scary.”
Daya couldn’t help but laugh at that, how was this annoying, loud, bratty girl managing to get this out of her. For someone who always spoke her mind she sure as fuck couldn’t find the words to explain all of her feelings right now.
Actions spoke louder than words though, right?
She looked back up at Jasmine to find an all too familiar smug smile staring back at her. For once it wasn’t irritating, or an invitation to go back and forth. It made something stir deep inside her that she couldn’t keep repressing. So she listened to her instincts, moving closer to Jasmine, so close she could feel her breath tickle her face, watching as her smug amusement turned to shock, staring wide-eyed as Daya kept their faces intimately close.
“I guess I can play nice,”  Daya murmured before pressing her lips to Jasmine’s, a heated kiss that sent so many things rushing through the pair of them that it was intoxicating, Jasmine pulling her hand through Daya’s hair to keep them close, deepening the kiss as a hand ran up her leg, settling around her waist to pull her into Daya’s lap and not break their kiss.
They were too entranced in each other to even process any other sounds, much less notice the door creaking open. Though it was hard to miss the distinct cackle that followed, the pair whipped around to find a bemused looking Bosco, losing her mind at the display in front of them.
“Well well well, not sure what I expected but it certainly wasn’t that. Really Daya? On the couch?” “Well, it was this, or we’d be bickering as usual, what do you prefer?” Daya laughed, intertwining her hand with Jasmine’s to push the point, delighting in the grimace on Bosco’s face. “The bickering doesn’t ruin my furniture.” Jasmine just watched, mouth still agape in shock at the sudden entrance and being caught. The sheer casualness of Daya, acting like this was totally normal. It was a lot to process at once.
Daya seemed to decide how to break the sudden found stalemate, Bosco glaring at them expectantly, Jasmine frozen with shock. Only one thing seemed like the right idea, pushing Bosco’s buttons more because it was funny as fuck.
She pulled Jasmine back in, kissing her passionately which she eagerly returned, instantly forgetting the watchful eye of her roommate just behind them.
“You dirty bitch!” Bosco interrupted them once more with a shout, pulling Daya off of Jasmine.
Jasmine couldn’t help but laugh, the scowl on Bosco’s lips, and the way she managed to toss Daya back with enough force she almost fell off the couch, Daya only smirked in response, wrapping an arm around Jasmine’s waist while making direct eye contact with Bosco.
She couldn’t help but want to annoy Bosco further, this was far too funny not to partake in. Jasmine grabbed the collar of Daya’s shirt, exaggeratedly leading her up and towards her bedroom with another kiss. Bosco just groaned, the front door slamming shut but not before they got one more word in. “If you two are still at it when I get back then I’m playing baby shark on loop until you stop.” Daya could only laugh, though she followed Jasmine’s lead, falling back into their passionate kiss and losing themselves in each other as they landed on the blonde’s bed, clothes starting to fly off as the air around them grew hotter and Jasmine’s body became the only thing on Daya’s mind.
— Daya woke up from a sudden nudge, confused as to where she was, why it was dark, and why there was something shuffling next to her before she processed that this room wasn’t hers and the thing next to her was certainly a person.
Oh.
Jasmine shuffled back next to her, trying her best to not disturb the other girl she thought to be sleeping, though her efforts proved fruitless as Daya grumbled next to her.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to wake you. “What time is it?” “4 am, go back to sleep” Daya let out an agreeing hum before rolling over about to drift off when the feeling of something missing became too strong to ignore. The temptation grew to move as Jasmine settled back down, her small body still managing to touch Daya in the bed. She mulled over the pros and cons, it might make things weird but considering everything that had happened, reservations were out of the window. She was in her bed, both of them naked and debating if it was acceptable to cuddle? The stupidity of it all almost made her laugh.
She rolled back over, letting Jasmine nestle into the warmth of her embrace as she let her eyes shut properly lulled to sleep by Jasmine’s slow breaths.
As she fell into her slumber, a thought tickled the back of her mind, this was nice. Maybe she should pursue this.
Maybe Jasmine was someone she should keep close, and never let go.

(I mentioned briefly a story of how the Stream Team met. This is that story.)
Somewhere in Los Santos, in the late night hours of a Tuesday, a convenience store is robbed. So is one several blocks southeast. And one roughly in the middle of them both. After all, what's more convenient than 24 hour chili dogs on every other street corner?
Cash. Cash is more convenient. So are guns. Hollering, waving one to get the other. Most important, back alleys that twist and turn, snaking away from increasingly distant sirens. Three individuals find themselves running through these alleys, a couple grand each weighing their pockets down.
It's through serendipity and convenience that their paths cross.
The man from the farthest store arrives first. He's done this a few more times than he'd like to admit, so he'd had a plan. Of sorts. Cut through the park, take a few sidewalks like an upstanding citizen, under the bridge and find a fire escape to utilize from there. There aren't any that reach the ground, of course, because he's smart but not quite enough.
And so this is why Trevor is standing in an dark alley, contemplating whether or not the dumpster will give him enough height to reach the ladder, when the man from the middle store appears. He's around Trevor's height, but would probably win in a fight between them, if he were so inclined. He doesn't seem to be, though. He seems shaken, like he's not quite sure how he ended up in this alley. He's holding a gun almost gingerly, as if it might bite him.
Trevor pulls his own gun.
'dont you fuckin' try anything!'
This does not go over well with Matt. He takes a step back, and then seems to remember that he also has a gun so maybe this is even footing. He holds it aloft, finger nowhere near the trigger.
'same, asshole!'
At this moment the robber from the first store arrives, also, of course, with a gun. And a mask. And an entire purple and orange neon fucking suit, actually, topped with a white cowboy hat. It gives them a few extra inches of height they are distinctly lacking, comparatively. Somewhere in the back of his head, Trevor acknowledges that this newcomer could probably kick his and the other gunman's asses. It is not a pleasant thought.
'oh, what the fuck!?'
Jeremy sounds more annoyed and less scared than one would think, considering they've run into an alley only to find two men with guns. Two men who quickly turn those guns on them.
'who the fuck are you?'
The question surprises them all, including Matt, even though he's the one who asked. As it turns out, people have a tendency to say the first thing that comes to mind when in a stressful situation. Such as, having robbed a convenience store for the very first time and immediately finding himself face to face with other apparent robbers. It would get to anyone, probably.
'i don't want any trouble, but i've already robbed someone tonight and i don't give a shit about felony murder!'
Two lies and a truth, is what Trevor has chosen to play, for some reason. In reality, one does not rob a convenience store at gun point if one is intent on staying out of trouble. And he does, in fact, care very deeply about felony murder. Felony murder is the precise reason he'd shot a bag of Doritos and not a clerk. In his defense, the clerk had initially rolled her eyes at him, asked what exactly he thought he'd get out of this. He'd found this question rude.
The truth, of course, is that he did rob a convenience store. That did happen. No take backs.
'so did i!'
Matt and Jeremy speak so in unison it's almost scary. If they didn't know any better, they'd think the two of them had always known each other.
Trevor's gun wavers between them, unsure which is the bigger threat. The guy who clearly has zero experience with guns, or the weirdo who seems to have far too much? It's a toss up, really. So his aim pinballs back and forth, but his finger does not curl around the trigger. He's serious about that felony murder thing.
The air seems to shift, suddenly, and the sound of sirens is now growing closer. This evidently also annoys Jeremy, and they throw a glance over their shoulder to the direction they'd come from. Red and blue lights flicker past.
'shit. ok. we're all robbers, i guess, and we're all fucked if we keep standing here. who's got a plan?'
Jeremy's eyes are staring impatiently at Trevor. Eyes being the only part of their face Trevor can see. And their hands, a plastic bag in one and a gun in the other.
Trigger finger is an apt name.
He glances at Matt, still wild eyed and glancing back and forth. No, Matt probably does not have a plan. He sort of gives the impression that he's never had a plan ever, actually. That perhaps he'd simply woken up here and decided to wing it. So Trevor makes an offer.
'fire escape?'
There's another moment of tense silence. Well, minus the sirens. And oh, helicopters. Even better. Jeremy shrugs.
'good a plan as any.'
And then they're off, brushing past Trevor and hoisting themself up onto the dumpster. He knew it could work. Trevor blinks and Jeremy has caught the ladder, is quickly working their way up. Shit, how does five foot something manage to get that high on a good day, much less in this situation and with a bag and gun in hand?
Matt's gun clatters to the ground, and honestly, that's probably for the best. He's climbing onto the dumpster now, and he mutters something about not signing up for this shit. Trevor reminds him that he apparently robbed someone, so yeah, he kind of did.
Before Trevor climbs up, he shoves his gun into his jacket pocket. Smart? Probably not. Convenient? More so than climbing with a gun in his hand. He follows Matt up the ladder, wondering what happened to his plan. Yeah, the ladder had been involved. Two other people, however, were not.
Above them, glass shatters.
'warning, maybe!?'
'oops. careful, there's glass.'
Jeremy's voice is no longer directly above them. Instead, it comes from one story up and a little to the left. So they've broken into an apartment. Sure, add breaking and entering to the list of charges, that sounds great. But Matt and Trevor follow, because there's not really another option.
Inside the apartment, Jeremy's mask is gone. The suit is quickly disappearing as well, revealing a rather boring outfit of a white tank top and...sweatpants? The true mystery lies in where the cowboy hat has gone to, because that's a hard item to miss.
'do we really have time for this? don't you think someone might, oh, i don't know, wake up and call the cops?'
Trevor doesn't mean to hiss, it's just that he's sure there's more pressing matters to attend to than an outfit change. Continuing to flee, perhaps.
'nobody's gonna wake up.'
They don't even have the wherewithal to lower their voice. It registers to Trevor that Jeremy's bag and gun are missing as well. Had they dropped them on the way up? It was certainly possible. Trevor thinks he would have noticed a gun flying past his head, but there's a lot going on.
'can we maybe not kill anyone? he brought up a good point with that felony murder thing.'
It's the most words Matt has strung together since he'd shown up. It's damn near a whisper, but at least it's progress.
'i'm not- god, can you two shut up? i gotta make a phone call.'
Jeremy yanks the door open, hand carefully wrapped in the fabric of their shirt. For a moment, Trevor thinks they're leaving and steps forward to follow Jeremy. Instead, Jeremy turns and heads toward the kitchen, pulling open a drawer and digging inside it briefly. They come back with a cell phone.
Something dawns on Trevor.
'is this- do you live here? did you break your own window?'
Jeremy doesn't answer. They put the phone to their ear.
'you're gonna wanna hide whatever you've got. and try not to look like you just climbed in through a window.'
And then-
'hello? yes, hi, i'd like to report a break in, i think? i was hearing a bunch of sirens and then i don't know what happened but some guy just broke my window? he ran through and i just- my friends and i are really scared and we didn't know what to do- yes, we're ok, he's gone, but we- you'll send someone? ok, thank you. the address? oh, uh, it's the del perro heights building, apartment 7. should i shut the door? no, don't touch anything. ok- guys, don't touch anything, she said someone's on their way to check on us! thank you so much- no, i think we'll be fine. thank you.'
It's a marvelous performance. Jeremy genuinely sounds like some poor flustered victim of a crime. Trevor would applaud if he thought Jeremy would appreciate it. Almost immediately, their voice is back to normal.
'check things out my ass. they're gonna show up, ask which way he went and never call me again. feel real fuckin safe.'
Jeremy settles themself onto the couch, choosing the spot closest to the door. Matt, who has apparently gotten over his initial terror, wanders into the kitchen. Searching for something to distract himself, if Trevor had to guess. Trevor is still standing in the middle of the living room, dumbfounded. How did a simple robbery become hanging out with other robbers, waiting for cops to show up?
'i'm jeremy, by the way. they won't ask, but y'know. just in case.'
They're flipping channels on the tv, seeming to arbitrarily skip almost a dozen programs. Finally, they settle on one and stand. Trevor recognizes it as an old Disney movie, and desperately wants to ask why the fuck Jeremy has put this on.
'uh, hi. i'm trevor. why are we watching Mulan?'
'matt. oh hell yeah, i love this movie!'
He sounds remarkably cheerful, considering the circumstances. How Trevor had seemingly switched places with Anxious McGee is beyond him. He needs to get it together. He pulls his gun from his pocket and takes it to the kitchen, sticking it in the drawer Jeremy had taken the phone from. There are several other phones of varying price point. He steps back to the living room just in time.
'that's why.'
They don't elaborate. Apparently Trevor is meant to just figure this out on his own, which ordinarily he might be able to do. After the course of events of this particular evening? Not a chance.
But he can't ask, because now there's a cop in the doorway and he's staring at Trevor and that will never be a good thing. Trevor stares back. He has no clue what he's meant to say. Hello? Welcome? He went that way?
'oh thank god! we've been so terrified, we didn't know if he'd come back or what he'd do.'
Naturally, Jeremy has taken lead on this. They're a phenomenal actor, Trevor has to admit.
'did you see which direction he went?'
'toward the stairs, i think. we've all been rooted to the spot, you know, it's so scary-'
Matt freezes in the doorway of the kitchen. He's just out of the view from the front door.
'right, well. you boys did the right thing by calling. can you give me a description of the man?'
The corner of Jeremy's mouth quirks.
'gosh, it all just happened so fast. taller than me, probably, but shorter than you, wouldn't you say, trey?'
Trevor nods, because he's not quite sure what else to do.
'alright, thank you. someone will be in touch with you for an official statement. in the meantime, if you remember anything else don't hesitate to call.'
He's holding a card out to Trevor, of all people. He takes it carefully, like if he does it wrong somehow the guy will know and arrest them all. The card is simply the number for a tip line.
As suddenly as he'd arrived, the cop is gone and they're all breathing sighs of relief. Jeremy closes the door.
'you guys can stay for Mulan, if you want.'
So they do.
Trevor asks about why Mulan again, and Jeremy explains that they assume most people have seen it, could answer any questions about it if they came up. Perhaps, if LSPD officers were less incompetent, they would have. Although if that were the case, they wouldn't be LSPD officers at all.
Matt asks about the window, and Jeremy says yes, they did break their own window. Of course they'd had an actual plan when they'd entered the alley. They were always going to end up exactly here, give or take the extras. Asking for a plan was simply a test, determining the merit in bring them along. They'd passed.
Jeremy asks if they want to stay for Mulan II, which is apparently up next. They do.
Somewhere in Los Santos, in the early morning hours of a Wednesday, three convenience stores are recovering from three separate robberies. Right in the middle of them all, their respective robbers are sitting on a couch together, watching a straight to video children's film.
It is the beginning of something far greater than any of them can imagine.

Tumblr media
She stood beside JC as they waited for Sam to finish setting up the camera. She ran her hands together trying to warm them up, it was surprisingly cold and none of them dressed for it. JC turned his head towards her and laughed, rolling his eyes. “Shut up,” she muttered while rolling her eyes. Sam ran back towards the group seeing if the angle was good, he nodded his head while he ran back towards the camera.
Sam glanced towards Colby quickly, “What’s up guys, it’s Sam and Colby!” Colby yelled dramatically, he quickly looked around him seeing if anyone was looking at him. Colby looked towards Y/N seeing her rub her hands together. He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked back towards the camera.
“Today, we are back at the Queen Mary for what? Like the third time now,” he smiled awkwardly towards Colby. Colby shook his head dramatically. “Why do we keep coming back here?” he laughed nervously. Sam looked behind him towards the ship, seeing a few people walking towards the entrance.
“I don’t know,” he laughed while glancing towards the group beside him. He slowly wrapped his arm around Y/N’s waist as he slowly pulled her body towards him. “I’ll keep you warm,” he whispered into her ear. Smiling to herself as she rested her head against his chest. Colby glanced towards the camera, raising his eyebrows.
“But this time we brought Kian, JC, and Y/N with us!” Sam shouted, motioning towards the three people standing between himself and Colby. Kian and JC started jumping slightly and hitting each other. Y/N eyes widened as she looked towards them, disgust written over her features. A small chuckle falls from Colby’s lips as he watches them. He slowly ran his hands up and down her back.
“We may have lied to you guys, just a little bit,” Colby transitioned, he slowly pulled away from Y/N. He kept his hand around her waist. Her mouth dropped open slightly as she crossed her arms over her chest. Colby kept his gaze on Y/N, her eyes squinting slightly as she looked towards him. A small smile formed to his lips as he hoped it would make her feel better.
“What do you mean?” JC asked while shifting his gaze between Sam and Colby.
“There’s no tour,” Sam sighed as he rubbed his hands together. The three guest stared towards Sam, “We are staying the night,” he said barely above a whisper. He bit his bottom lip as he fought off a smile.
“No, no,” Kian said simply as he shook his head. He pulled his backpack straps several times as he continued shaking his head. “I’m not staying the night,”
“We drove you here, how are you going to get home?” Sam teased.
“I’ll take an Uber, Sam!” Kian yelled while he started pacing back and forth.
“What the-I’m not staying the night,” Y/N whispered towards Colby. He shrugged his shoulders, “You kidnapped me, I’m not doing this.”
“Oh come on, Babe, you love spook-”
“Not this place,” she shook her head.
It had taken a few more minutes of Sam and Colby trying to convince them to stay the night. Kian and JC didn’t take long to get convinced to stay while Y/N was never convinced. She was simply outnumbered. As soon as they entered the ship, the vibe felt different and each of their moods faltered. The temperature dropped as soon as they walked inside, it felt even colder than it was outside. Sam, Kian, and JC were leaning their bodies against the check-in desk asking the man as many questions as possible.
Colby took a hold of her hand and pulled her body away from it. She furrowed her eyebrows harshly while he pulled her away from the group. Stopping, he pulled her hand towards him, forcing her body closer to his.
“Are you mad at me?” he asked, his voice was barely above a whisper, forcing his lips into a pout. She tilted her head to the side as she pursed her lips forward. She looked over his pinked features, rolling her eyes playfully as she saw the pout to his lips.
“No,” she drew out the word as he swung their interlocked hands back and forth. He slowly dropped their hands as he wrapped his arms around her body. She giggled while resting her hands onto his chest as he squished her body against his.
“Don’t be mad,” he whispered as he pressed his lips to the top of her head, he slowly ran his hand up and down her back. Shutting his eyes, he tried to calm himself down.
She wasn’t mad at him, maybe more worried than anything. Ever since Sam and Colby’s horrible experience last time, she has been dreading this trip. But she promised Colby that she would go with him. Colby pressed his lips to the top of her head again. He took in a long breath as he slowly rocked her body back and forth.
“I’m just scared,” she muttered. He pulled aways slightly to look her in the eyes. He raised his hand, resting it onto her cheek, he ran his thumb across her cheek for a few silent seconds. “I don’t want the same thing to happen as last time.”
“It won’t, I can promise you that,” he spoke softly as he continued to run his thumb along her cheek. His lips slowly grew into a wide smile while letting out a giggle. “Your cheeks are so warm,” he said happily as he raised his other hand and rested both of his hands onto her cheek. She snickered as she took a hold of his hands.
~~~
“Okay Buddy, mine’s the same size,” JC snapped as he rested his hand against the handprint on the wall of the closet. Colby took his hand away from the wall and laughed. Y/N smiled slightly as she glanced around the small creepy room.
“Can we get out of here?” Kian asked as he continued to play with his backpack straps. The group agreed and they slowly started out of the room. “That’s not a bathroom, JC,” Kian said loudly as he stepped out of the closet. Kian made eye contact with an older employee, who simply shook his head and kept walking.
Sam, Kian, and JC walked ahead towards their room; while Y/N and Colby hung back as they walked slower than them. “Are you feeling alright?” he asked as he reached for her hand. She interlocked her fingers with his as she glanced towards the floor.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep tonight,” she chuckled while she tried to cover the fear in her voice. He nodded slightly.
“We never really sleep on these trips anyway,” Colby tried to comfort her, but he knows that she isn’t the biggest fan of these places. She shook her head as she slowly began to smile.
“I know, you end up texting me all night about how scary it is,” she teased. Colby huffed, pretending to be offended.
“I do not do that,” he said while he ran his fingers through his hair.
“Yes you do! You’re all like “Baby it’s so scary, like this thing happened and then this and then oh my god Babe we didn’t get it on camera but oh my god you had to be there” you’re very dramatic when you want to be,” she mimicked. He dropped her hand and crossed his arms over his chest.
“I am not dramatic,” he huffed, taking slower steps.
“You’re kinda proving my point,” she giggled while she took a hold of his arm and wrapped her arm around his. She interlocked her fingers with his as they continued walking.
“Why are you walking so slow, damn,” JC groaned from several feet ahead of them. Y/N looked up from the floor seeing the three of them standing facing them. Colby's mouth dropped open while he looked up towards the group. “We ain’t got all day, I’m hungry.”
~~~
The last thirty minutes were chaos. Kian and Colby got into a huge argument and it lasted for a while. Kian was accusing Colby of knocking on the door to try and spice up the video. When Colby kept saying he didn’t. Y/N saw how genuinely terrified Colby seemed, she knew that he didn’t. Yet Kian was convinced he did. JC was starting to get fed up with Sam about all of the stuff they were forcing them to do. Y/N sat in the middle, every so often one of them would bring her into the argument. This was supposed to be a ‘fun’ scary trip with her friends.
“For fuck sake! Kian, if Colby says he didn’t knock on the door, he didn’t do it. You are just trying to find any reason for it to not be true. Colby, stop arguing back about it, it isn’t helping; stop trying to prove some point. Sam, if JC doesn’t want to play the Ouija Board, he doesn’t fucking have to! And JC, stop saying Sam is forcing you to do this shit, you chose to come with!” Y/N interrupted the arguments that were happening. All four of them stared towards her, flabbergasted. After a few long awkward moments, she muttered, “Now fucking apologize to each other.”
The boys shifted glanced towards each other, before all muttering, “Sorry.”
“I’m going to go get some ice,” she continued as she took the empty ice bucket and left the room. As soon as she left the room, she felt the temperature change. She didn’t think too much of it as she walked toward the end of the hall. She smiled politely to a few fellow guests walking past her. She stood at the ice machine and began putting a few pieces of ice into her container.
Suddenly she felt goosebumps arise on the back of her neck; as if someone was blowing air against her skin. She whipped her head around seeing if anyone was there, and no one was behind her. Squinting her eyes, she turned her attention back to the freezer, that’s where the feeling had to come from. She topped off the container as she shut the freezer. She turned around, and began walking back towards her room with her gaze towards the floor.
After a few seconds she lifted her head to see a shadow for a split second. She furrowed her eyebrows as she squinted her eyes. Her mind had to be playing tricks on her, there was nothing there. Yet, her heart began to race faster. She began to take quicker steps towards the room they were staying at. But again, the blowing air feeling she felt before was back. This time her entire body went cold.
A small gasp left her lips as she fumbled with the key, she didn’t want to be in the hallway alone anymore. She re-entered the room to see them all laughing and playing fighting with each other. “Fucking boys, I swear,” she whispered to herself as the events she just had left her thoughts. She placed the ice on the table as she walked towards the bed. “Are you all okay now?” she asked as she sat down, running her hand over the back of her neck.
“Yep!” Sam cheered as he slowly placed the Ouija Board box on the ground. Y/N watched him, her heart began to race fast as she watched. “We are just about to start filming this,” he leaned down and began to unbox the set.
Colby laid down beside her, resting his head into her lap. Y/N smiled as she met his soft eyes. She slowly began to run her fingers through his hair, he shut his eyes at the feeling. “JC is out, are you going to do it?” Kian asked, wishing he could’ve backed out; but he had too much pride for that. Y/N took in a long breath as she nodded.
After about ten minutes of Sam setting up the two cameras, JC was sitting in the chair in the corner of the room scrolling through Twitter. Kian was pacing, he was nervous because he had never done this before. Colby was still resting his head in Y/N lap as she stroked her fingers through his hair. Y/N and Colby were whispering random cutsey things to each other tuning out the others in the room.
Sam slowly started the cameras, he snuck over towards them secretly filming them. “...No I was thinking we could-”
“Oh come on guys get a room!” Kian yelled beside Sam. Colby jolted looking towards the camera. He laughed nervously covering his face with his hands. Y/N shook her head slightly as she looked away from Sam and the camera. “We got some dead people to talk to!” Kian jumped slightly as he clapped. Y/N laughed as Colby slowly sat up from her lap.
~~~
They all took a long breath as they greeted the board as they rested their fingertips to the piece. Y/N kept her gaze towards Colby, hoping he would say something first. He nodded towards Sam as he whispered, “Is there anyone here with us?” For a few seconds the board didn’t move. Colby, being impatient, asked the board the same question. Almost immediately after his question the piece moved over to the ‘yes’.
Y/N felt air catch in her throat as she noticed the piece moving, she stared intently at each of their fingertips seeing if anyone was forcibly moving it, but from what she can tell there was nothing. Her heart was beating hard against her chest, while she glanced towards each of the boys beside her. “What is your name?” Sam asked.
It took awhile for the board to begin to move but it began to slowly move towards the R. They all read out the letters together as the board moved towards them, “R...U...T...H” Y/N felt her heart sink, she recognized that name. It was a popular name with the older generation. She put the thought to the back of her head.
Colby glanced towards Y/N, remembering the name of her family member, he also pushed the thought to the back of his head. “Did you die on this ship, Ruth?” Kian asked, right to the point. This time the board did not hesitate, it quickly moved towards the ‘no’.
“Oh my god,” Y/N whispered, her voice was so soft that it was almost inaudible.
“Then why are you talking with us?” Sam asked, trying to keep the conversation going for as long as he could. Y/N wanted to let go of the board, she wanted to throw it across the room. Several long seconds pass as they wait eagerly for the board to move. The board piece began to spell out Y/N’s name, as each letter was read the more their voices began to shake.
“Colby, are you doing this?” she asked furiously, her breathing was sporadic. She was confused. He shook his head, making sure he kept his hands on the piece.
“Why would I do this, Y/N?” his voice broke as his entire body was shivering. “She’s clearly here for you, ask it a question,” she stared towards him, her eyes filling with tears. The tears were unexplainable, she was filled with mixed fillings.
“Uh, okay,” she took in a long breath, “How do I know that this is really you?” she asked. It was a broad question, but she still had to ask it. She was hoping for an answer that Colby wouldn’t even know the answer to.
The board began to move again, slowly, “B...U...N...N...Y” the boys were staring at it confused, but Y/N eyes filled quickly with tears. “Oh god,” she let out as she stared towards the board.
“Bunny? What does that mean?” Colby asked, he desperately wanted to reach over to her and pull her into a hug, but he didn’t want to mess up the board.
“Why are you here?” Y/N ignored Colby’s question. Her voice cracked as she spoke, she was fighting off the tears. It had been years since she last spoke to her Grandma, she didn’t realize how much she missed her. At least she hoped this was truely her grandma.
The board quickly began to spell out, “S...A...V...E”
“Save? Save? What does that mean?” Colby asked, he wasn’t sure if he was asking the board or asking the group. The board quickly responded with spelling out, “B...A...D”
“I-I-I want to say goodbye,” she muttered, she looked up towards Colby. Her breathing began to quicken as she couldn’t fight off the tears anymore.
“But-” Sam spoke.
“I want to say goodbye!” she groaned. The group quickly spun the piece three times as they said goodbye. She lifted her hands from the board and quickly stood up from the floor. “Turn the cameras off, please,” she begged. Colby glanced towards Sam, as he quickly wrapped his arms around her. Sam quickly turned off the cameras, and began to put away all of the equipment. Kian and JC exchanged awkward glances as they looked towards Y/N and Colby.
“It’s going to be okay,” Colby whispered, “Come here,” he whispered, walking her towards the bed. They both laid down together.
“Well that was interesting,” Kian let out, trying to subdue the awkward silence. Colby gaze shot towards him, widening his eyes motioning towards Y/N. Kian’s mouth dropped open as he mouthed “Sorry,” as he leaned against the chair JC was sitting on.
It had been a couple hours since the Ouija Board, and Y/N was in shock. She kept asking Colby if he was pushing it, but he kept saying no. “I just want to know what she wants to save me from, I just don’t get it,” she let out, she kept running her finger along Colby’s shirt. For the last hour she was resting her head on his chest as they all discussed the events of the day.
“Probably, just some spirit that's on this ship, right?” Sam answered casually as he looked up from his phone briefly. She simply just hummed. “That’s kind of cool to think you have someone looking down on you,” he continued. Y/N smiled softly.
“It could’ve been a demon pretending to be your Grandma too, you know,” JC let out without thinking it through. Colby shifted his head towards JC with his eyes widened. He threw his free hand up while he shook his head, trying to warn him. Y/N was thinking about that fact too, “I saw something on Discovery channel that’s-”
“Just stop talking dude,” Kian interrupted as he lifted his gaze from his phone.
“I mean he’s right, that is something that could’ve happened,” she let out.
“How about we go with a guardian angel instead?” Colby whispered as he pressed his lips to the top of her head.
“Yeah, I like that better,” she whispered as she sat up slightly. She looked down towards Colby. She leaned down and pressed her lips against his. Sam, Kian, and Jc all began to pretend to gag.
“Get a room!” Sam yelled as he threw a pillow towards them.
monty’s horror movie list
no one follows me for this but i’m back in my horror movie obsession era so here we go. some of them are good, some of them are bad (but I love them), and some of them are kind of unacceptable, like, morally tbh, I’m sorry
anyway, in no particular order:
mother!: I just watched this one today so it’s on my mind. get ready to be stressed out by deeply uncomfortable social situations for like, the first hour and a half and then genuinely disturbed for the last twenty minutes. i finished this and then sat in my room mouthing “what the fuck, what the fuck”. v good, 10/10
Orphan: What if you adopted a kid but they sucked?
Absentia: I was really impressed, cause this was like a low-budget, crowd funded movie but it’s so so good. This one is about a woman whose husband went missing years ago, a creepy tunnel, and family relationships. V quiet and sad
Possum: Not very much happens in this movie for a long time but the atmosphere is so good, and it’s genuinely creepy. The ending also made me so uncomfortable I almost couldn’t watch it, so there’s that
The Wolf House: Incredible unsettling stop-motion animation, and I’m a sucker for good animation. Makes more sense if you know a little Chilean history, but it’s interesting even without that context
Amityville: It’s About Time: Jumping right from that foreign arthouse film into cheesy schlock, what if a clock made people evil and fucked up?
Hell House LLC: More! Schlock! This is a fake documentary/found footage movie about people trying to make a haunted house in an old hotel... but what if it was haunted for real??
Host (the 2020 shudder original): Unfriended if it was good
Hereditary: Made me sad :( This was one of the first movies to genuinely scare me in a while, and my sister-in-law won’t even let anyone talk to her about it. The story about a family dealing with grief and complicated relationships is also just so interesting to me, this one’s in my top 10
Anything for Jackson: Reverse possession movie: they try to put a spirit IN someone! Hell yeah. So many good, weird ghosts in here, I love some good, weird ghosts
13 Ghosts: (the early 2000s remake) Speaking of good weird ghosts. What if your estranged uncle died and left you a house but there was a ghost jail in the basement? I just rewatched this movie with my little brother and remembered how much I love it. Very schlocky, Matthew Lillard’s acting is off the fucking walls and I love it, why does he act like that??
Kindred: One of the only “is it in her head, or is it real?” movies where I actually really wasn’t sure. It’s about a woman whose husband dies right before she’s about to give birth, so she ends up staying with his family and slowly starts to question their motives
Parents: What if you were just a little kid and you started to suspect your parents were eating people?
Basket Case: I’m not crying over a B movie, I’m not crying over a B movie. In this one, two conjoined twins are surgically separated against their wills, with one of them getting thrown in the trash. As adults, they start hunting down the doctors who did it to them
The Poughkeepsie Tapes: Very depressing fake documentary about a serial killer. Just fucked up and sad
The Taking of Deborah Logan: One of the few found footage movies that I think is actually good. A small documentary crew goes to film a woman and her aging mother who’s suffering from dementia, but they start to think that... huh, maybe this is something a little worse than dementia...
Ju-On: The Grudge (the original Japanese one): this movie just freaks me out, I don’t like how Kayako moves around, I don’t like the sounds she makes, and I don’t like her weird little son
The Ring (the American remake): I saw this movie when I was like 8 bc someone recorded it over the Willy Wonka VHS I’d gotten from the thrift store, and I’ve been fucked up ever since. In it, a woman sees a cursed tape that will make you die in seven days, and has to try and figure out how to save herself before then. GREAT atmosphere, very creepy
Sadako Vs Kayako: What if the girl from the Grudge and the girl from the Ring fought each other? Hell yeah. Plus, love that a ghost hunter comes to help with the situation and he’s got a random mean little girl with him. People are like “why is she here?” and he’s just like “she’s my associate” okay?? Where did she come from??? I’m obsessed with this movie
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A classic. Rancid, nasty atmosphere, just feels gross, 10/10
Society: Rich people suck so so bad and are very fucked up
House of 1000 Corpses: I love this movie and I’m sorry, its just some disgusting, campy fun. Like, what if your car broke down the night before halloween and ended up in a house with some terrible (but very entertaining) people?
Oculus: The idea of being a little kid, stuck in the house while your parents are slowly losing it, or potentially being possessed by something evil, is really scary to me. This movie does it so well. It moves back and forth from the main characters going through that in their childhoods, to them as adults, back in the house where it happened, and it’s so so good
Hellraiser: You tell me it’s about the blurry line between pleasure and pain and I watch it. The designs for the cenobites are so good. I like this first one a lot, but I also really enjoy the second one bc the torture dimension looks like MC Escher designed it and it’s sick as hell
The Others: This is one of my favorite, like, classic haunted house kind of movie. A mother keeps her kids inside an old mansion, with all the curtains drawn, because they have an illness that means they can’t go in the sunlight. Very, very creepy
The Blair Witch Project: This one just feels so real, I’ve never seen another found footage movie that reached this level. The actors knocked it out of the park, how am I so freaked out just by a couple of people wandering around the woods? It’s the blueprint, honestly
A Nightmare on Elm Street: You guys know this one, he gets you in your dreams! Probably my favorite of the classic slashers, I love some good old practical effects. my brother actually just bought me the WHOLE box set for my birthday so I’m gonna start working though the ones I haven’t seen yet
Jennifer’s Body: What if your best friend, who you have a very homoerotic relationship with, started eating dudes? Iconic. No, but seriously, this movie has a lot more going on than you might think
House of Wax (the 2000s remake): Bad, but so good. It’s really got that uncanny valley thing going on, love that fucked up wax museum
Ichi the Killer: Pretty unacceptable, I can’t in good conscience tell you to watch this movie, but it’s definitely an experience. Very very very violent, like super violent, but in the wildest fucking ways. Basically, what if you were a masochistic Yakuza member with a weird joker mouth and you just wanted a sadistic vigilante to beat the absolute shit out of you? Anyway, I think there’s something wrong with Takashi Miike and probably also me
Black Christmas: This is one of the og og slashers. It’s about girls getting killed in a sorority house, but surprisingly it’s like, not really an exploitation film, and I really like the characters. Good, unsettling killer, too
The Baby: WEIRD. Weird and uncomfortable. I’m not trying to kink shame anyone when I say this, but it’s probably definitely a fetish thing. In it, a social worker takes on the case of a family with an adult son who they’re claiming has the mind of a baby. This one’s probably kind of unacceptable too, to be honest with you
Once Upon A Time in Santa Ana
Tumblr media
Summary:  Once Upon a Time, Angel Reyes knew you and you knew him. Once Upon a Time, Angel Reyes loved you and you loved him. In him, your teenage hopes and dreams found a home, a safe haven. Angel Reyes took your love and spat it back out at you with malice. Once Upon a Time Angel Reyes accepted a tender, fragile love and burned it down. This is the story of a man trying to rekindle his first love from the ashes.
Chapter 1
                                        Ghost Two: Angel
Angel was unsettled, unnerved and on edge. There were too many ghosts here. The weight of his past decisions was heavy on his conscience. The streets he rode down lead to memories of emotional crimes he’d sooner forget, and the clubhouse felt like it had the potential to morph into his own personal insane asylum.
“Angel!” The man being shouted at turned to the sound of the voice. This was the second time today that he’d been slapped in the face by a ghost of his past. The first was by his own doing. Angel knew without a doubt that walking into that convenience store was inviting hurt that he wasn’t 100% sure he could deal with, but the temptation of possibly being so close to you and not attempting to see you was too much.
In front of him now was ghost number 2, Shania. Shania was the perceived catalyst in Angel’s love story. The cousin/best friend to the girl he first gave his heart to. The devil on his love’s shoulder egging her on to do what she desired most and covering for her disappearance acts.
The last time Angel saw Shania she was just on the brink of womanhood. At 18 her face still held a girlish charm while her body was blossoming into full adulthood. Looking at her now the transition was complete. Her once rounded cheeks were still full but defined. Her eyes told a story of secrets that came with being grown, and her hips swayed in a way that marked her confidence. In short, Shania had finished growing up. Her hair hung in long coils hitting her waist. They were dyed a bright red and highlighted a lighter red that held a pink tone.  The colors complimented her sepia-toned skin.
Shania threw her arms around Angel’s neck and pulled him tight swaying back and forth. Angel needed the hug. He needed the affirmation that he hadn’t burned every bridge he built while he was here all those summers ago. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath absorbing the warmth and comfort Shania offered.
“Damn, it’s been a long time,” Shania said while letting go. She smiled up at her former friend. “You forget how a phone works?” She asked following it up with a slap to his arm. “I’m mad at you Angel. Just dipped out without a goodbye and then went ghost. “ These fools” she pointed a thumb in the general direction of the members “treat information about other chapters like they’re in the CIA.” she shook her head.
“How have you been?” Shania finished with a bright smile waiting to hear about how things had been with Angel.
Angel in return just ran a hand down his face and answered with a short “Shit” followed by a shrug of uncertainty. “I mean good I guess.” He raised his hand palm up and rolled his fingers outward in a questioning gesture. “Just doing club shit.”
Shania’s brow creased and her smile dropped, the face she was currently sporting was eerily reminiscent of her uncle. Angel was sure it was a family trait. “Wow, that was a really insightful look into what life has been like for the last'' she waved her hand “however long.”
Angel laughed, appreciating the blunt but humorous honesty. “Do you want a drink, Angel?” Shania asked and looked over her shoulder apparently feeling EZ approach.
“Shania, this is my brother EZ. EZ, this is Shania. Shooter’s daughter.” Angel watched EZ stick his hand out and give a half-smile. Shania accepted it and gave it one firm shake. She didn’t let go though. Instead, she turned back to Angel and said “So, is the whole family fine, or were the genes reserved for just y’all?’ She finished what a laugh that mixed with Angels and was accompanied by EZ’s own chuckle.
“I’m going to grab you a drink.” She finished with a wink and went to do just that.
EZ stepped up to Angel and watched the girl walk away. “So, that’s Shooter’s daughter meaning she’s the cousin to the unnamed girl.”
Angel knew EZ had said you were unnamed for the sole purpose to get him talking. “She’s not unnamed” Angel answered back not without irritation.
“Then what’s her name?”  Asked EZ angling himself towards his older brother.
Angel supplied your name. “Look, man, I don’t really want to get into this right now. Just let it alone for a bit EZ.”
Angel stalked off towards Shania meeting her half-way to get his drink. In truth Angel really didn’t want to get into the nitty-gritty about you but he knew he had to. EZ was at a disadvantage not knowing the truth of how Angel left. There were old wounds here that he wasn’t sure fully healed. If judging by how your father reacted and how Shooter was treating him he’d have to say they were very much still open and sore. Why though? That was something that he was hoping to ply information from Shania.
She handed Angel an open bottle of beer and clinked her own to his before taking a sip. She turned to the side so she was facing him and leaned against an unoccupied pool table.  Angel muttered a thank you and then mimicked her pose.
Shania took a breath as if to say something, but stopped having changed her mind, and instead took a sip of her beer.
“Does she know I’m here?” Angel asked deciding to just cut to the chase. “Hell, is she even still here?”
Shania just looked at him for a moment before answering. “Are you being serious right now? You sure you want to open that can of worms?” She huffed and shook her head. Shania set her bottle down on the green of the table and folded her arms over her chest. “Angel, I’m going, to be honest with you.” She paused again. It seemed she was unsure if she wanted to say what she was thinking, but her lips tightened for just a moment and she continued on.
“You fucked up bad when you left here like you did. At least you gave the appearance that you did.” Her eyes narrowed briefly while she looked Angel over. “I’m willing to forgive and forget. It’s been a long ass time and it’s clear that y’all haven’t had any form of contact. My daddy and uncle on the other hand….” She trailed off.
“My daddy won’t say anything since it didn’t involve the club, but I’d step lightly around him. Also-” she poked his arm. “Keep yo tail away from my uncle. That man has been itching to beat you down for years. He’s old but he’s quick and trust me, he hits hard.”
“Now do you really want to know the answers to those questions?” She shook her head. “Don’t go pickin’ at scabs unless you’re ready to treat the cut.”
 “I hear you, Shania. I do forreal” Angel paused “and if you don’t think it’s good for her to know I’m here, don’t tell her. I just have to know. Is she still here?” Angel tried to keep the desperation out of his voice but was failing. It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought about you, but as of late he felt like he was spiraling. There was a need to feel something genuine and untainted again. Something was telling him he could do that with you.
Shania nodded along and listened. “Yeah, she’s still here.”She said casually while pulling her phone out. “Well, more like here again. She moved back home a few years ago.” She continued while apparently responding to a text on her phone.
“As far as her knowing if you’re back-” She paused again and Angel heard the distinctive single vibration of her phone. Shania nodded in satisfaction. “Put your number in here.” She handed Angel the phone. “I want to be able to get in touch with you again.”
Angel did as directed more focused on if Shania was going to tell follow through and tell you. Shania, for her part, took the phone back and continued to tap away. “She knows now and I gave her your number.” She then pushed off the table and took a swig of her drink while walking away. Angel watched her pocket the phone and felt his stomach drop, rise up in an attempt to lodge in his throat before finally filling with moths. There were no butterflies here. Butterflies were reserved for happy reunions that would be filled with smiles and warm hugs.
In the time he’d been back Angel had been met primarily with cold acceptance or outright hostility save for Shania. He didn’t know what he’d get with you. He didn’t know if he’d get anything from you. As badly as Angel wanted this reunion he was scared to death of it.
He’d been reminded multiple times since getting back to Santa Ana that his departure had been less than ideal. From what he was gathering, the ripples of his decisions went farther than he thought they would. Angel huffed to himself and raised his bottle to down the rest.
When his eyes closed he saw your face; confused and tear-streaked, a silent question on your lips “Why?” He wasn’t sure if what he was remembering was the true sound of your voice or just what he imagined it. While everyone was worried about protecting you they were ignoring the vulnerability Angel was submitting himself to.
Was your relationship as good as he remembered? Had he taken only the best highlights of it and committed them to memory, leaving all the mess to be forgotten? That was the scary thing about memories. You could never be sure if what you were recalling was the truth or the romanticized version used to get through melancholy.
Angel looked to the now empty bottle and just stared at the label, not really seeing it. Instead is mind was playing that moment on a loop. “Why?” The memory version continued to ask and never getting a true answer. “Because I could” Angel found himself whispering the implied response.
You had his number. That knowledge left his phone feeling like a boulder in his pocket. Would you use it? Would you let this be content with never having a true resolution? If you did use it would you come at him like your pops? Would you give him a cold welcome like your uncle or would he have you back? Could he take a stroll down memory lane and make you smile like you used to? Would he get to hear that melodic laugh again? Would Angel get a chance at redemption?
Angel eased a long sigh and let the hand holding the bottle fall to his side. He took strides towards the bar looking for another drink and felt the weight of two pairs of eyes on him. A quick glance confirmed they belonged to EZ, observant as usual, and Shania, scrutinizing and assessing. It was going to be a long weekend.
HomeBound, a TTP Fic
PSA- I don’t know how to do the “read more” thing and this is a long fic so, apolgies in advance for this long post. Also I wrote this at midnight in my notes app with absolutely no editing so, read at your own risk.
Summary: It’s been weeks since the Crown Prince of the Heartlands, Prince Wensclaus ran away from home. During his absence, he’s taken a spunky aspiring knight under his wing to distract from the pain of his disapproving parents. Although, anyone can tell it’s more than that. He genuinely cares for the kid. As for his own family, however, they are not content to lose him. Featuring aro/ace future Wensclaus, a non-binary TTP OC I made named Law, and an older, wiser, but generally unchanged Joan.
————-
Although it’s been years since Wensclaus has been to the Hinterlands, there’s something familiar about the way the wind whips at his hair, heavy with the promise of rain. There’s something familiar about the dull, incessant roar of leaves in the breeze, and there’s something familiar about the dry crunch of dirt beneath his heels as he bites his lower lip, drawing blood as he parries and ripostes a rather impressive attack to his left side.
This place definitely had never held the warm glow of home to him, but the landscape tugged at Polaroid memories all the same.
His assailant, far more used to the northernmost elements than Wensclaus, circled at a wide radius, letting limp their wrist in exertion and dragging the point of their sword in the dirt. Their face was leveled in an annoyed glare (it was rather early). Beneath their tunic, their chest rose and fell in quick succession.
“Careful,” Wensclaus muttered, “We just had the blacksmith sharpen that.”
His adversary lept back into action, once again assuming a rather bold offensive strategy, yet left their form with much to be desired. At any moment, really, he could send them toppling on their back, but this skirmish wasn’t staged for the purpose of an expedient victory.
Although they only employed a handful of successful attacks on Wensclaus, he couldn’t help but to find himself surpised by their skill level. That, or the fact that without the rigid background of swordsman training, they were afforded the ability to combine techniques in a fluid manner without so much as a second thought. It was a skill that he himself envied.
The sparring match between the pair often drawn a crowd of onlookers, as entertainment in the Hinterlands dwindled after Barrabas returned to the Midlands. However, the mist on the plains had yet to evaporate and the cock had yet to crow, so they were alone in their back and forth dance.
Or so they thought.
Through the mist, an imposing horseback figure drew closer and closer, regarding the fight with vague curiosity. She watched the epic climax, and subsequent end, as the younger swordsperson unexpectedly threw Wensclaus off balance and tumbling to the ground.
“Do you yield,” Law said with a false air of suave.
“Ah, I’ve been bested,” Wensclaus replied in a similar play of false airs, “I yield, I yield! Spare me, lest I suffer a worser fate.”
Law laughed and held out a hand to Wensclaus and pulled him up.
“Good work with your offense,” Wensclaus praised, “Your footwork has improved greatly.”
“While yours has only grown sloppier since you’ve been gone.” The mystery spectator cut in. Her horse drew closer in the mist, and with horrifying realization Wensclaus realized it was his Aunt Joan. She dismounted and strode towards the pair.
Wensclaus gripped his sword, unsure if he wanted a fight or a reunion.
The head knight in question stood with an innate intimidating posture that made Wensclaus feel like a child again. However, that clearly wasn’t the case; Wensclaus had grown into his gangly limbs and assumed a self-assured posturer, and the constant eroding factor of time had etched wrinkles into Joan’s face and dusted Grey into her hair.
“Look, It’s the no-fun police,” Law scowled, crossing their arms, yet hiding slightly behind Wensclaus. He only sighed.
“Your fathers have been worried sick for you, Wensclaus,” Joan said softly, “they miss you terribly.”
Wensclaus kicked a stone, “Thats very inconvenient for them. I hope they feel better.”
“Wen-“
“No.” Wensclaus shouted. He wanted to continue, but he then became hyper-aware of Law, himself over seven years their senior, ducking behind the heavy mass of his cloak and gripping it slightly. He sighed. Not here.
“Can we continue this somewhere else?”
——
After a whispered argument that warmed Wensclaus’s heart but ultimately convinced him of Law’s protective yet stubborn nature, he found himself seated across the table from Joan in the only tavern in town and Law sulking outside as they waited for the adults to finish up. A daunting mug of root beer sat in front of him, which was much more interesting than the steely grey eyes of his pseudo-aunt.
“I can’t believe they sent my babysitter to come pick me up,” Wensclaus began, deciding to skip the small talk and poke the sleeping elephant with a stick. Or whatever the idiom is about.
“Wensclaus,” Joan began.
“Like, ok, they have a kingdom to run, but I’ve seen my Dad pull holidays out of his ass so we could have a vacation. They could have come themselves-“
“Your fathers did not send for me, Wensclaus.” Joan cut Wensclaus off with an impressive gulp of definetly-not-root beer. “I doubt they even know where you are. Not that they haven’t been searching, of course. As far as they’re concerned, I’m farther up North to check up on a dwarf problem your Uncle Darling is having.”
Wensclaus’s face drew up as he straightened in his booth. “Wait, then how did you-“
“It just made sense,” Joan replied, “You experienced perceived rejection and to cope you returned back to the place where you first received rejection. The little knight you found, however, was a nice touch. They’re coming along quite nicely. I’m proud.”
The explicit praise did not fly over Wensclaus’s head, “I’m that predictable, huh?”
“You’re not predictable, just human,” Joan shrugged, then at Wensclaus’s face, continued, “That’s just what Cecily has been telling me. And for the record, I’m not telling them you’re here until you’re ready to be found.”
Wensclaus leaned back in his chair and stared down at the frothy mess of his root-beer.
“They all miss-“
“It’s just hard.” Wensclaus said, without emotion. Joan remained quiet this time.
“It’s hard when, you know, everyone is talking about you, like, oh look at Prince Wensclaus! He’s like, I don’t know, in his mid-twenties, and tied down to no one,” Wensclaus laughed dryly, “His parents, they were married by age eighteen. Basically invented love and all that shit. How massive of a failure do you have to be to not love anyone when those are your role models?”
“You must be pretty fucked up.” He wiped a tear from his eye. “God it’s just... it’s so hard. I’m nothing like them and... it’s so hard.”
“You love me, don’t you?” Joan said, “And what about your Aunt Cecily?”
Wensclaus regraded Joan strangely, “Well, yeah, but not like-“
“What about your Uncles up North, Darling and Percy?” Joan continued, “Or your little knight?”
“Joan, it’s not like-“
“Your fathers?” Joan pressed, “Do you not love them?”
“I do, Joan, but that doesn’t count!” Wensclaus snapped. A few patrons across the bar glanced over. Face flushing, Wensclaus lowered his voice and relaxed his clenched fists, “That’s not the point, it-“
“You’re right,” Joan said, “The point is that you feel angry because of the high expectations inadvertently placed on your shoulders by your fathers because you’re different. But to say you love no one is so... far from the truth. Love takes many forms, and they can all be fulfilling.”
Wensclaus gave no response, instead favoring the mug in his hands than making eye contact with Joan. He was holding himself back from lashing out again.
“When I came out to my father, as both gay and a knight,” Joan began, “He tried to fix me.”
This caught Wensclaus’s attention.
“He set me up with all kinds of guys,” Joan laughed, “even a pig farmer. Enrolled me in all these classes for lady-etiquette and had me fitted for a ball gown corset. I was so angry, I ran away.”
“But you and your dad get along great,” Wensclaus said, “He’s over at your and Aunt Cecily’s cottage almost every weekend.”
“Now we get along great,” Joan corrected, “But this was all when you were very young.”
This satisfied Wensclaus’s confusion.
“I guess in the end he was afraid for me and afraid for himself,” Joan said, “Everything I was doing he had never seen done before, and that was scary. When people are scared, they do dumb things, like threaten to estrange their children.”
“Why are you telling me this?” Wensclaus asked slowly.
“When Cecily found out about what my father had threatened, she marched her little sequined self down to the pub he was hiding out in and gave him a piece of her mind,” Joan continued, “After you left, that’s exactly what I did to your fathers.”
“What?” Wensclaus finally cracked a smile, “You yelled at my dads?”
Joan shrugged, “It’s not the first time. I love them, Wensclaus, I really do, but they can be incredibly thick sometimes.”
That sobered him up, “Yeah.”
“They reacted the way they did not because they didn’t love you anymore, Wens,” Joan reaches across the table and grabbed his hand, “They reacted that way because what you were describing was something they had never seen done before, and they were scared for what that meant for you.”
“That still doesn’t make it right,” he replied.
“You’re right. It was wrong, which is exactly why Rupert has written and rewritten his formal apology to you several dozen times, so you know that in fourteen different languages that he loves you no matter what,” Joan replied, “And Amir is currently drafting legislation to nationally recognize aromanticism as a romantic identity and provide funding to revise public service announcements to include it. It was wrong of them to react the way they did, and they only thing they want in the world is to take it back.”
“Wow, I-“ Wensclaus suddenly found himself speaking through tears, “I don’t-“
“I’m not going to force you to come home before you’re ready,” Joan said steadily, “But I want you to know that when you are, there’s a place for you.”
It was embarrassing, the way that Wensclaus began sobbing in the tavern like that. The eyes of half a dozen hitherlandians landed on his shaking frame as the head knight of the heartlands held him to her chest. She ran her fingers through his hair, just like she used to when he had nightmares about the Despair. But this was so much worse, because this was not about an enemy he could defeat; rather, it was the floodgates of relief mixing with the festering hurt that had been building in him ever since he stepped foot out of the palace gates. Dimly, he was aware of the soft reassurances his aunt whispered into his ear, but in his determination to speak through his tears it all was mush.
“I want to go home,” he said hoarsely, and he felt the same relief within Joan.
—-
As the door to the tavern opened, Law jumped up from the ground and ran up to Wensclaus. However, after they took in his tear-stained face and Joan’s arm on his shoulder, they stumbled back, as if flinching in pain and disbelief.
“So you’re going back?” Law seethed, “Just like that?”
Wensclaus made brief eye contact with Joan, who released her arm from his shoulder and walked off with a nod. He returned his attention to Law and wiped his eyes.
“Yeah,” he said, “I’m going back. I can’t hide here forever.”
“But they said-“
“And they realized they were wrong,” Wensclaus finished, “I want to give them another chance before I cut them off entirely. If Joan can do it... then I guess I can too.”
His rationalization only caused his mentee to spiral further, “A-And what are you going to do, huh? Just.... leave me here?”
Wensclaus’s face drew up as an emotional knife stabbed cleanly through his heart. This scene felt all too familiar, except never from this perspective.
“No, no, of course not. No. Never. You’re going to come with me and Joan,” he said, placing his arms in Law’s shoulders in an attempt to ground them, “I mean, only if that’s what you want.”
“I won’t fit in,” Law said quietly, “It will be... weird.”
Wensclaus laughed, “I didn’t fit in either. It’s not that weird.”
In a conspiratorial tone, he added, “Plus, everyone there is weird. Just wait until you meet my Uncle Darling.”
That caused Law to smile as they held their hands on top of Wensclaus’s on their shoulders.
“Wensclaus,” Joan called out from her horse, “Little Knight.”
The pair glanced up from their conversation as Joan trotted closer.
“You coming?”
Wensclaus straightened up, leaving a hand in Law’s shoulder.
“Yeah. Let’s go home.”
Chapter 2 under the cut! :)
Tubbo was shaking with excitement.
Finally, after months and months of shoving the thought away, it was happening. They were leaving.
Tubbo rushed around his basement, grabbing as many resources as he could and shoving them into his inventory haphazardly. Not much thought went into it, if he saw something he thought he might need he’d toss it in. If he forgot anything he could just ask Ranboo for it anyways.
With his stuff packed, he headed upstairs to check on Michael quickly before leaving. The toddler was still sound asleep, clinging to his chicken plush fiercely. Tubbo gently kissed his forehead, tucking him in tightly, before making his way back to the ladder.
He locked the hatch behind him, just in case. You could never be too careful when you were married to a main character and best friends with a protagonist. He shrugged on his coat and slipped on his combat boots, exiting the house and locking the door behind him. He ran to the hyper-tunnel, tridenting through and flying out the other side.
He made his way to Tommy’s land, where he found the blond sitting on his bench and staring at the horizon.
“Tommy!” Tommy’s head shot in his direction as he yelled his name.
He ran onto the property, practically throwing himself at Tommy and head-butting his chest.
“Fuckin- Ow man, what the fuck’s gotten into you?”
Tubbo grinned up at him, springing up from the bench and flapping his hands back and forth.
“Okay, okay, okay. So. Um, basically, you know how everything’s pretty much gone to shit on this server? And how we’re like, constantly in danger of someone trying to kill us?”
Tommy raised an eyebrow.
“I’d say I’m well aware of it, yeah. Didn’t expect you to be so excited about it though. Seriously big man, I haven’t seen you this excited since the bee farm you built way back before L’Manburg.”
Tubbo faltered for a moment. This was going to be difficult.
“No, I’m not excited about that.” He took a deep breath and calmed himself down, falling back onto the bench.
“So, I’ve been thinking about it for a while, a long time, actually, and I was talking to Ranboo and he kind of just asked me why not, and now we’re doing it, so.”
Tommy laughed nervously.
“You still haven’t told me what ‘it’ is, Tubs.”
“I’m getting there. You’re just. You’re probably not gonna be too happy about it at first, but I want you to take some time and actually think about it because I do genuinely think it’s the best option for us.”
Tommy looked at him warily.
“Alright. I’ll think about whatever you say, promise.”
Tubbo nodded.
“Okay, good, so…”
He looked over to Tommy, sucked in a deep breath, and blurted it out.
“What if we left?”
Tommy froze.
He stood from the bench and made his way back towards his house, and Tubbo ran after him.
“Tommy, I know it’s scary, and weird, but honestly-“
“No.”
Tubbo froze as well.
“You promised you’d think about it.”
“Yeah, I did think about it, and now I’m fucking shaking, so sorry, Tubbo, but it’s a fucking no from me.” Tommy finally turned to look at Tubbo, and tears were pooling in his eyes.
Tubbo swallowed.
“We can’t keep living like this, Tommy. I can’t keep going week by week not knowing if my best friend, or my kid, or my husband, or myself are gonna make it to the next one.” Tubbo reached for Tommy’s hand, but the taller boy yanked it away.
“Then leave. Fuck off with your perfect little family. See if I care.” Tommy growled.
Tears threatened to spring to Tubbo’s eyes, but he held them back. Tommy didn’t mean any of this. He was scared, and he felt threatened, and he was responding with anger. Tubbo had seen him do it time and time again. This was nothing new.
Didn’t exactly make it hurt much less though.
“I’m not leaving without you. You are my family.” Tubbo reminded him gently.
Tommy practically snarled at him.
“Remember- remember what Puffy was saying? About using anger as a coping mechanism for fear? You’re doing it again, Toms.” Tubbo did his best to keep his voice from shaking.
He hated it when Tommy got like this with him. It’d happened far too many times and ended far too horribly each time. He wondered if it was his fault.
Tommy’s eyes widened for a moment, and he seemed to shake himself off, taking a deep breath before stepping backwards.
“Just- just give me a minute.” He turned and ran into his house.
Tubbo watched his retreat, and began shaking. He’d known Tommy wouldn’t take well to the idea, but he didn’t think it’d upset him this much. Was it worth it to try to convince him? Even if it would spare them both a lot of grief and suffering in the long run, he couldn’t bear to make Tommy feel that anxious.
He took a deep breath, and thought it all over again. He had wanted to leave because he wanted to feel safe. He wanted his loved ones safe. That was okay, it was good.
It was… a good option, all things considered. He knew if Wilbur were here, he’d scold him for running away from his problems. But Wilbur wasn’t here, and Tubbo wasn’t running away. He was escaping.
Tommy finally emerged from the house, looking a bit more confident with himself than he had before. He looked up at Tubbo with his hands busying themselves with his sleeves. Tubbo opened his arms, and Tommy slid into a hug.
“I know you’re not keen on the idea. And I know it’s stressful, and new, and I know you don’t like new. But please just let me explain. Because I don’t know how much longer we can go like this before something happens.” Tubbo spoke in a hushed tone.
Tommy pulled away, nodding and leading Tubbo back to the bench.
They sat down, and Tubbo took a deep breath and began.
“Okay. So, I’ve had this plan, kind of sitting in the back of my mind for a while. Wasn’t even really a plan at first, just a daydream.”
Tommy caught his eye, and nodded for him to continue.
“It must’ve been a few days after you got out of the prison. I just remember seeing you trip and fall, and god, Tommy, you looked the same way you did the day of the festival, in that goddamn pit…”
Tubbo looked away from Tommy, who reached over and grabbed his hand, holding it in his own gently.
“You were shaking like a leaf, and your breathing was all funny, and all I could think about was how none of this would’ve happened if we’d ran off that day, when we were talking about it.”
Silence hung in the air for a moment. Tommy stared out at the twilight growing sky, eyes tracing the newly revealed stars.
“Thought we’d agreed that was dumb. We still had stuff we had to do.”
“We did,” Tubbo bit his lip, “We did agree. Back then. But, I don’t know, I started letting myself think about it, and like… I just want to live. Like actually live. I don’t wanna be so scared out of my mind that I have to build fucking nukes to keep my family safe. I don’t wanna wake up every morning and not be sure if my best friend is still around until I see you.”
A tear ran down Tommy’s face, and he pulled Tubo into another tight hug.
“I can’t leave. I have so much work to do.”
Tubbo huffed, squeezing Tommy back.
“Like what?”
Tommy let his head rest on Tubbo’s shoulder, and his arms went slack against Tubbo’s back.
“I have so many people I have to apologize and make it up to. And I’ve got a reputation to fix. And I have to kill Dream.”
Tubbo pulled away, staring Tommy down.
“Ignoring that other stuff for a moment, you don’t have to kill Dream.”
Tommy frowned.
“Yeah, I do. He’s too dangerous to be left alive. If he brings Wilbur back he’s gonna hurt so many people. I don’t- I don’t wanna kill him, I don’t wanna kill anyone, but I have to, because nobody else will.” Tommy spoke it like it was a mantra he’d been taught.
Tubbo felt like he’d been taught it as well.
“But it’s not your job. It’s not your responsibility.”
“Tubbo-“
“No.” Tubbo stood from the bench.
“No, it’s not, and you’re not getting me to agree with that. Dream is fucking insane, and he’s hurt a lot of people, and you don’t have to deal with him. It’s not your responsibility to save everyone, Tommy. I know we’ve had it drilled into our heads from the moment we joined that goddamned revolution that we should aspire to be martyrs, but we shouldn’t.”
Tommy stared at him with something sad, and something akin to awe.
“We have every right to live and be safe, Tommy. We’ve done our part. We’ve fought wars we shouldn’t’ve had to. We get to be free from it all.” Tubbo paused for a moment, sitting back down.
“Dream isn’t your responsibility. Maybe he’s Sam’s, or his own, who knows. But he’s not yours. You don’t have to be the one to prevent his actions.”
Tommy breathed in shakily, and nodded.
“I hear you,” He spoke quietly, “Not sure if I quite get it yet, but. I do hear you.”
“That’s all I ask for.”
Tommy took a deep breath.
“So, you’re suggesting we just disappear into the night?”
Tubbo smiled sheepishly.
“I mean… essentially, yeah.”
“And you’ve been planning this for how long?”
“What time is it?”
“How the fuck would I know? Probably around nine or something?”
“Alright, then like… forty five minutes.”
Tommy stared at him.
Tubbo stared back.
“I’m gonna kill your husband.”
“Wha- it’s not like it’s his fault, I’m the one that brought it up-“
Tommy groaned.
“No no no, this has Ranboob written all over it. He probably made you get all nostalgic and shit and then proposed this and now we’re leaving.”
Tubbo’s ears pricked up, and a small smile wormed its way onto his face.
“So you’re coming then?”
Tommy groaned again, leaning back against the bench.
“I don’t fucking know Tubbo. You’re sure this is what you want? Like 100% sure?”
Tubbo ran a hand through his hair.
“Pretty sure it’s all I’ve wanted for a while, boss man.”
Tommy pulled his knees up to his chest.
“So you’re really okay just leaving all this behind? L’manburg, and the bench, and Snowchester?”
“Honestly? As long as I have you, Michael, and Ranboo, I couldn’t give two fucks about any of this. But… I understand if it’s harder for you.” Tubbo spoke gently, as if Tommy might startle.
Tommy hummed, and let his eyes fall on the horizon again.
“It’s weird to think about. And it makes me feel scared. Like, there’s all these places here that have so many memories, and one day we might come back and they’ll look completely different.”
Tubbo watched his friend quietly for a moment. He probably should have come prepared for a deep conversation. Tommy was having those a lot more often with him. And he was proud of Tommy, god, he was so proud of him. But it served as a bit of a reminder that things would never go back to the way they were before. There’d always be something weighing them down.
… If Tubbo got his way tonight, he hoped it would take a bit of that weight off.
“Isn’t there kind of beauty in that, though? New people will show up, and walk the same ground as us, and make new memories in the places we made ours. Someone else will sit on this bench one day and it could be the best day of their life, and they’ll watch the sunset and celebrate, just like we did, and never even know it.”
Tommy caught his eye again, a look of contemplation in his gaze.
“And like, nothing’s ever permanent, Toms. You and I of all people know that. If you decide you want to come back, I’ll come with you. It’s me and you ‘til the end, right?” Tubbo held up his arm, hand fisted, and smiled as Tommy did the same and bumped their arms together.
“Always.”
Tommy sighed.
“Guess I better get packing then, huh?”
Tubbo grinned.
“I’ll meet you at my place in, let’s say, an hour?”
“Sure big man.”
The two hugged once more, then separated. Tubbo nearly had to stop himself from skipping down the prime path.
Tommy did have a point, it was weird to think he might never walk this path again. That sickly fear of being forgotten crawled it’s way into his chest, and he decided to get rid of it as soon as possible. He’d made his mark well enough, if he said so himself.
There was an entire crater that people would tell stories of for decades that he’d had a huge part in. Couples would settle down in Snowchester years from now and see his name etched into the stone, and know him as their founder. Teenagers would dare each other to walk through a button-filled ravine and the nerds among them would tell the story of Pogtopia, of the president that went mad, and the legendary warrior, and the determined hero, and maybe, hopefully, even the crafty spy. He’d made several farms and trading posts that would be used for generations should they be upkept. And he’d never upkept them, so he didn’t see them falling into disarray the moment he left.
Tubbo had left his mark on the land. On the history of the server. Still, the tightness wouldn’t leave his throat.
He grabbed a knife from his pocket and stared at the prime path for a moment before kneeling down. In sharp, clean letters, he etched “TUBBO_BELOVED WALKED HERE.” It was simple, so utterly stupid compared to the other things he had done to mark up the server. But it made him laugh, and it made the tendrils of fear loosen from his lungs, for whatever reason. And so he decided to be proud of it.
He made his way back home and practically flung open the door, making his way to his bedroom and closet. The moon was well underway on its journey through the sky, the silver light illuminating his room through the windows. He grabbed an assortment of clothes and piled them into a backpack. Several green shirts, some hoodies, a t-shirt that definitely had belonged to Ranboo at some point, jeans. He threw in everything he could. His hand brushed on a coat, and he pushed the rest of the clothes to the side.
His presidential jacket hung neatly in the corner of his closet. That’s right, he’d stored it away before Doomsday. Hadn’t been sure when he’d need it again. He slipped it off its hanger and shrugged it on. He looked at himself in the mirror.
It still looked too big.
“Tubbo?”
Tubbo glanced to the corner of the mirror, where Ranboo now stood in his line of sight.
“Hey boss man.”
Ranboo strode up to him, and hugged him gently from behind, his elbows resting on Tubbo’s shoulders.
“You ready to get going?”
“Just about. Gotta get Michael’s stuff together still.”
“Mm.”
They stood like that for a few moments, until Ranboo gently head butted Tubbo’s head, and moved away, gently slipping the coat off of Tubbo. He put it back on its hanger and slid it back into its place in the closet.
“I vote we leave this one behind.”
Tubbo hummed, a smile making its way onto his face.
“Can't say I disagree.”
Ranboo grabbed a few more things from Tubbo’s closet and threw them to Tubbo, who caught them and folded them, placing them carefully into his bag.
“Guess you don’t like me in a suit then. I’ll make note of that.”
Ranboo froze for a moment, then flustered, slapping Tubbo gently on the back of the head. Tubbo giggled, zipping up his bag and slinging it onto his shoulder.
They made their way out into the living room, where a duffel bag already sat on the floor beside the couch. Tubbo threw his bag down next to Ranboo’s, and jumped when the duffel moved.
“Hey, Boo?” Tubbo whisper-yelled.
“Yeah?”
“Care to explain why your bag is shaking and purring?”
They stared at each other, Ranboo freezing like a deer in headlights.
“… I couldn’t just leave Enderchest.”
Tubbo laughed fondly. He knelt down and scratched the cat’s ears, which earned him a louder purr.
“Guess I understand. Cats have got to stick together after all.” Tubbo grinned.
Ranboo groaned across the room.
“Catboy, little meow meow, my meow meow catboy, little baby man.” Tubbo strode across the room, smooshing Ranboo’s cheeks with his hands.
“You are a menace to society.”
Tubbo cackled evilly, and moved one of his hands up to scratch around Ranboo’s ears, laughing again when a soft rumble came from his husband’s chest.
“This is not funny.” Ranboo could barely stop himself from purring long enough to say it.
“Mhm.” Tubbo rubbed Ranboo’s ears and the purring grew louder.
“I hate this.”
“Tell me to stop then.”
Ranboo flushed, and Tubbo laughed triumphantly, bonking his forehead with Ranboo’s and leaving him be. He made his way up to Michael’s room, followed closely by Ranboo, who held another backpack in his hands and was yet to stop purring.
They moved in tandem, grabbing and folding their toddler’s clothes and placing them in the backpack. They also brought an assortment of books and little trinkets they’d collected for Michael over the past few months. Finally, they grabbed some blankets and folded them neatly, stuffing them into the backpack and zipping it up. Ranboo swung the backpack over his shoulder and shimmied back down the ladder.
Tubbo sighed, and sat on Michael’s bed, gently carding his fingers through his son’s short mane. Ranboo came back up, and sat beside him.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this.” Tubbo mumbled, half to himself.
“Can’t believe in a bad way, or can’t believe in a good way?”
“The good way.”
Ranboo leaned against Tubbo, resting his cheek on Tubbo’s head, careful to avoid the horns.
“Should we wake him up now and get him out to a boat, or should we wait for Tommy?” Ranboo swung an arm around Tubbo’s waist lazily.
Tubbo leaned into the gesture. It was quite bizarre. Ever since his execution, physical affection had left him uneasy and anxious, but for some reason it was different with Ranboo. Maybe it was how unsure of it he’d seemed himself, or maybe that he hadn’t known Tubbo before the scars. It made Tommy jealous, Tubbo was well aware of that. But at the moment, Tommy was only just getting back to being able to handle hugs, so Tubbo wasn’t sure cuddling would do either of them any good at this point.
“Bo?”
Tubbo snapped back.
“Right, sorry, yeah, let’s uh, let’s wait for Tommy to get here. He’ll probably wake Michael up with his knocking anyway.”
Ranboo hummed amusedly, and Tubbo smiled. He glanced out the window, and watched the waves for a moment.
“You wanna go for a quick stroll before Tommy gets here?” Tubbo stood, offering Ranboo a hand up.
“Sure.”
Ranboo took it, and they made their way to the doors, Tubbo slipping on his coat as they left. They wandered around for a bit, chatting idly, reminiscing on stupid and funny moments that had happened in the little town of Snowchester. They eventually ended up on the docks, and Tubbo sat down, swinging his legs over the side. Ranboo sat beside him, his tail wrapping around towards Tubbo.
Tubbo shivered, and leaned into Ranboo, who held him.
“So this is it then. Anywhere you wanna visit before we leave? L’manhole, maybe?”
Tubbo smiled.
“Nah. I’ve said my goodbyes to that place. I’m all good to go.”
Ranboo laughed quietly.
“Not to question you, but for someone who spent several nights awake making layouts for his builds, you don’t seem all too sad about leaving them.”
“Well, I mean, yeah. It kinda sucks, but at their core, they’re just builds. I’ll think back on them one day and cringe at how I styled them. You and Michael and Tommy being safe is far more important than whatever project I’m focused on at the minute.” Tubbo said quietly.
Ranboo hummed.
“And you know you’re the same for me, right? You’re always gonna be one of my top priorities.”
It felt a little uncomfortable to hear, but Tubbo knew that was just his messed up brain doing its messed up little thing. And so, pushing down the feeling of twisting in his stomach, he leaned closer to Ranboo.
“Thanks, boss man. I’m glad.”
They sat for a moment in silence, listening to the waves lap at the sides of the docks. Tubbo checked his communicator for the time. Tommy should be getting here soon. Thank god, he was getting a bit anxious to actually get on the road. He was, of course, still grateful that the universe had decided to give them a moment of peace before the inescapable chaos that would be travelling a long distance with a toddler and Tommy- so, basically two toddlers- for several days. Hell, maybe even several weeks.
So, of course, Ranboo had to ruin the peace.
“You’re actually talking about your feelings. A big win for the Tubbo_Beloved community.”
Tubbo huffed out a laugh, gently slapping Ranboo’s chest.
“Oh, shut up.”
Ranboo giggled, his tail wagging happily and hitting the stone.
“OI TUBBO! BOOB BOY! I’M HERE!”
Tubbo let out a sigh and turned to see Tommy standing on his porch, waving his arms around like a madman. Ranboo laughed, bonking their foreheads together. Tubbo groaned, letting his head fall onto Ranboo’s chest for a minute.
“Ready to spend several days on end with the one and only Tommyinnit?” Ranboo’s voice was light, lighter than he’d heard it in a while.
Tubbo smiled.
“Gods help our souls.”
Ranboo laughed, loud and clear, and Tubbo grinned. He pulled back, and Ranboo stood, helping Tubbo up as well. They made their way back to the cabin, Tommy tapping his foot impatiently like a cartoon character. Tubbo walked up the steps and made eye contact with Tommy, asking a silent question.
Are you okay?
Yes.
Are you sure you wanna do this?
Yeah, I’m good.
Tommy swung an arm around Tubbo’s neck, pulling him in quickly for a side-hug, then relaxing and dragging him inside.
“Your gremlin’s awake by the way. Couldn’t handle the might and power of the great Tommyinnit.” Tommy grinned as he tossed his bag next to Tubbo’s beside the couch.
Tubbo rolled his eyes, and motioned for Ranboo to go get Michael with a nod. Ranboo laughed quietly, and went upstairs. Tommy released Tubbo from his hold, and plopped down beside the bags, petting Enderchest, who seemed somewhat apprehensive of the new person.
“So did you say goodbye to everything?” Tommy scratched behind Enderchest’s ears and the cat immediately warmed up to him.
“Nah. I’ve made my peace with this place. Just waiting to leave now.” Tubbo sat down beside him, taking a few locks of Tommy’s hair and beginning to twist them into a braid.
“Saw your message on the Prime Path.”
“Yeah?”
“Made one beside it. Now it says ‘TUBBO_BELOVED and BIG MAN TOMMYINNIT WALKED HERE.’”
“Pffft- I’m glad, now everyone will know the true owners of the Prime Path for generations to come.” Tubbo tied the braid together loosely, then sat back.
“Fuck yeah they will. Big Man Tommy’s legacy is going nowhere.”
Tubbo laughed, and Tommy smiled gently.
Tubbo’s ear flicked as the hatch to Michael’s room opened, and he looked over to see Ranboo carrying a very sleepy Michael down the ladder. The toddler was wrapped in his favourite blanket, one he’d been given by Foolish, and was clutching his chicken plush against his chest with one hand. His other hand gripped Ranboo’s shirt, rumpling the thin fabric, and not assisting in keeping the toddler in Ranboo’s arms in any way, shape, or form. Tubbo stood, making his way over and taking Michael from Ranboo’s arms. Michael gently headbutted his chest, and Tubbo did the same to Michael’s forehead.
“Did you tell him what’s happening yet?” Tubbo asked as Ranboo made his way down the ladder.
“Not yet, figured we should tell him together.”
“Mm. Fairs. Mikey?”
Michael gazed up at his dads sleepily. Tubbo’s heart clenched at the sight.
“You awake there, buddy?” Ranboo asked, running a hand through the toddler’s mane.
Michael grunted and hid his face in Tubbo’s shoulder, causing a soft laugh from Ranboo. Tommy snorted from across the room.
“Can we talk for a minute Michael?” Tubbo placed a kiss on his son’s forehead, and Michael looked up at him, then Ranboo, and nodded.
“Alright.” Tubbo carried Michael over to where Tommy sat, and returned to his place on the floor with Michael in his lap.
Michael’s eyes shot open when he saw Tommy, his mouth gaping in surprise. He squirmed out of Tubbo’s grasp and walked right up to Tommy, placing his tiny, hoof-like hands on Tommy’s cheeks.
“Mimi.” Michael stated with a seriousness that bordered that of a commander’s.
Tubbo burst out laughing, and as Ranboo slid onto the floor beside him, he could feel his husband shaking trying to hold his own laughter back. Tommy sighed dramatically, but smiled.
“Yes, it is me, your saviour, Mimi. I’ve arrived to make sure those two don’t bore you to death.” Tommy nodded in Tubbo and Ranboo’s direction.
Well, he tried to. He did what he could with toddler hands holding his head in place. Michael followed his gaze, and looked between his dads like he was contemplating something very important. He looked back to Tommy and nodded. Tubbo gasped.
“Have we been betrayed?” Tubbo looked back at Ranboo, who grinned.
“I think so, I think so.”
“We’ve been betrayed by our only heir. Oh woe is me.” Tubbo fell back dramatically into Ranboo’s arms, and Michael giggled.
Tubbo reached his arms out in Michael’s direction, and Michael waddled back over to him, sitting squarely in his lap, and looking up at him expectedly.
“Alright. Serious talk time,” Tubbo squeezed his son, and Ranboo nodded in agreement, “I’m gonna tell you straight up, because I know you’re a big kid and you’re gonna be okay. But it’s okay if you feel upset at what I tell you, okay?”
“You’re allowed to feel however you do, I promise your Bee and I won’t ever get mad at you for that, alright?” Ranboo gently squeezed Tubbo’s shoulder as he spoke.
Michael looked between the two quizzically, and then looked back down at his lap. After a moment, he looked back up, and nodded seriously.
“Alright. So, we’re going to be moving houses, and it’s probably gonna be really far away.”
“And we probably won’t be back for a very long time.” Ranboo added.
Michael’s eyebrows furrowed, and Tubbo would have cooed if he wasn’t worried that Michael was upset. The toddler jutted his thumb out in the direction of the mansion, and Tubbo is quite proud of himself, because he at least had the decency to look sheepish at it. Tommy had to suppress a laugh, hiding it behind a cough. Tubbo glared at him. Ranboo snorted from behind him.
“No, Mikey, we’re gonna travel for a while and then build a new house, far away from here.”
Michael frowned, and took his chicken plush back in his hands, placing it in his lap. He squeezed it gently a couple times as Tubbo ran his hand through the toddler’s mane. Michael eventually looked back up at him, and signed something that Tubbo recognized as “Mimi come?”
“Yeah, bud, Mimi’s coming too.” Ranboo smiled patiently.
Michael squeezed his chicken plush again, then stood, pointing to the ladder.
“You need back up, Mikey? What’s up?” Tubbo asked.
“Need clothes and books and toys.”
“Oh, we’ve already got your stuff packed! Come look!” Ranboo reached around Tubbo and grabbed Michael’s backpack, a yellow one with a bee embroidered on the front.
Ranboo unzipped it, and Michael ran back over, gripping the backpack and looking inside. Ranboo helped him push the blankets aside, and Michael looked at all the clothes and toys they’d packed. He tapped his chin, and Tubbo had to hold back another laugh, because where had he even learned that from? After a couple moments, Michael zipped up the bag himself, and nodded firmly at Ranboo.
“You’re ready to go?” Tubbo asked.
Michael reached for his chicken plush, and Tubbo handed it to him. The toddler nodded.
“Alright. Are you feeling okay about it?” Ranboo placed the backpack beside the other bags as he spoke.
Michael frowned again.
“I don’t know.”
“That’s alright, bud. Do you feel sad?”
Michael shook his head almost immediately.
“Do you feel angry?”
“…No.”
Tubbo watched the interaction with a certain fondness. Ranboo was always so careful with explaining emotions to Michael, and trying to help Michael understand his own. It was sweet to watch.
Tommy obviously didn’t share the same sentiment. He didn’t say anything, but Tubbo noticed his fingers drumming anxiously against the floorboards. His other hand pet Enderchest with a fervour that the cat probably didn’t appreciate. Tubbo would have to thank him later for being so patient with Michael. Or, at least trying to.
“Do you feel nervous?”
Michael stopped for a minute, clutching his chicken close to his chest and mulling it over. Eventually he nodded, and Ranboo smiled gently, the way he always did when he spoke to Michael.
“That’s okay. Your Bee and I are gonna be right beside you the entire time, okay? And if you’re ever feeling nervous, you can tell one of us, and we’ll try to help. Is that okay?”
Michael nodded, and opened his arms for a hug, his chicken falling into Ranboo’s lap. Ranboo pulled him into a hug, not letting go until Michael did. The toddler then turned to Tubbo and did the same. Tubbo held him close to his chest, rocking them from side to side gently. Michael pulled away, and Tubbo did too, gently bonking their foreheads together before completely pulling away.
“You’re very brave, Michael. It’s not easy to do things you’re nervous about. We’re proud of you.” Tubbo ruffled the kid’s mane as Michael grinned.
“Alright. We’re gonna leave now, and you can sleep on the way, okay?”
Michael smiled and nodded, grabbing his blanket from Tubbo’s lap and wrapping it around himself haphazardly. Tubbo stood, followed by Ranboo, who picked up Michael and carried him over to the door. Tommy scratched Enderchest’s chin, then gently zipped up the duffel a bit more. He stood, grabbing his own bag and slinging it over his shoulder.
Tubbo grabbed his backpack and did the same as Ranboo buttoned Michael into his coat. Tubbo grabbed Michael’s hat and slid it on the toddler’s head before helping him with his boots. Tubbo slid on his own boots, tying them tightly. Ranboo grabbed Michael’s backpack, slinging it over his shoulder, then grabbed his duffel bag carefully. Tubbo picked Michael up, and they left the house.
They made it to the front yard, and Tubbo turned around one last time.
“You wanna say bye to the house, Michael?” He murmured.
“Bye bye house.” Michael’s words slurred together with tiredness, and Tubbo awed quietly.
He turned and began to walk away, but Michael grabbed a fistful of his hair and pulled it gently, just enough to sting.
“Ow- what the-“ Tubbo took a deep breath, “What’s up, Michael?”
Michael pointed at the house.
“Picture.”
Ah. Of course. Ranboo had shown him their camera a few days ago, and the toddler had loved it. Of course he’d want a picture of the house. Tubbo turned to look at Ranboo, who shrugged, then slid Michael’s backpack off and grabbed a camera from inside. Tubbo sighed. One more quick detour wouldn’t hurt.
“Alright. Let’s go stand by the door.” He carried the toddler back up the front steps, and turned to face Ranboo and Tommy.
Ranboo readied the camera, before being slapped gently in the back of the head by Tommy. He looked back at Tommy with confusion, and Tommy rolled his eyes.
“Go stand with your family, dumbass.” Tommy held his hand open for the camera, looking everywhere but at Ranboo.
Tubbo laughed to himself as Ranboo visibly softened, handing Tommy the camera and making his way up the steps. He stood behind Tubbo, gently placing a hand on Tubbo’s shoulder.
They smiled, and the camera flashed a few times. Tommy pulled back, inspecting the photos for a minute, then gave them the thumbs up. They walked back over, and Michael poked Tommy, pointing at the camera.
“There you go. These pictures up to your standards Big M?” Tommy asked, showing them the camera.
Michael looked at the pictures, then nodded seriously.
“Good, wouldn’t want to disappoint.” Tommy ruffled Michael’s mane, then handed Ranboo the camera.
Ranboo carefully slid it back into Michael’s bag, and the four made their way to the docks.
Two boats were already tied to the docking points, and Ranboo must have set them up when Tubbo wasn’t looking, because Tubbo definitely hadn’t. Ranboo carefully made his way down the ladder and into the first boat, standing with his feet wide. Tubbo bit his lip.
This probably wouldn’t be a fun time for Ranboo, he wasn’t exactly great around water, for good reason. With any luck, they’d only need to travel by boat for a few hours, then they would find land and borrow (read: steal) some horses and travel horseback from there.
Ranboo gently placed his duffel bag in the bottom of the boat, sliding off Michael’s backpack and placing it beside the duffel. He then reached up towards Tubbo, and Tubbo carefully handed him Michael. The moment Tubbo let go, Ranboo sat down, clearly not trusting himself enough to hold their kid above water.
Tommy made his way into the second boat, tossing his bag on the floor as well. Tubbo climbed into Ranboo’s boat, but passed his backpack to Tommy, who put it beside his own. Tubbo sat down, then reached for Michael again. Ranboo handed the toddler over, then stood, untying the boat from the dock. Tommy did the same in the boat next to them.
Michael made himself comfortable in Tubbo’s lap, and, almost instantly, fell back asleep. Tubbo laughed gently and looked up to Ranboo, who was watching them with a look of fondness clear on his face.
“Alright, you guys can make doe eyes at each other once we get there, c’mon.” Tommy grinned as Ranboo spluttered, then began rowing.
Ranboo huffed, but followed suit. They began travelling Northeast.
“Our arms are gonna hurt so bad tomorrow.” Tommy stated tiredly.
“Worth it.” Ranboo smiled.
And they were off.
They’d done it. They’d escaped.
Considering how messed up you were and what circumstances you found yourself in, it suddenly took you a ridiculously little amount of time to realize what at least one of those machines was.
It was a polygraph.
A lie detector.
What was the questioning going to about you could only guess, because ‘I brought you here to ensure your future commitment to each other can be proper” was as much of a fucked-up clue as it was a useless one.
Your mind was about to kick into an overdrive with morbid fantasies, when a groan caught your attention. Your head instantly snapped to Steve, the source of the pained noise.
He squeezed his eyes tightly, shifting his head back and forth, the motion slow, but with a purpose, as if he was trying to avoid annoying sunrays in the morning.
For a brief moment, you wondered if either of you were about to see the morning sun ever again and the thought made you choke up.
Steve’s eyelids fluttered open drowsily, barely focused eyes searching the room until his gaze fell on you and his eyes widened. His lips whispered your name and despite the tears gathering in your eyes, you gave him a watery smile.
“Hey, Steve,” you creaked and his gaze trailed over your body, pupils dilating so much that they nearly hid all of the cerulean of his irises.
He straightened in his chair; or attempted too, his body probably feeling as heavy as yours when you had woken up; possibly heavier even, with that sicko drugging him with a mixture of sedatives that could have stop his breathing.
“Whatta-“ he rasped, his fingers twitching, more forcefully than you grew accustomed to while being here and his glare found the body part in question with utter confusion – and horror.
“Captain, good to see you awake at last.”
Steve tried to stand up to face the voice, the supposed enemy, but he barely moved at all; the tips of his shoes rose a fraction, his thumbs flexing, his palms rising just an inch before falling back to the armrest helplessly.
His eyes found the man at least, his chin coming to rest on his shoulder to keep it from falling on his chest as the muscles in his neck weren’t able to do their job.
Seeing Steve Rogers in a significantly weakened state was a new and an entirely terrifying thing that shook you to a core. Steve Rogers, Captain America, always strong and ready to swing in to save everyone…. You had seen him bruised before, a fading black-eye maybe, a healing scar on his cheek, but nothing that came even close to this; witnessing his battle to keep his head up, that-- that was fucking scary.
You had never ever been met with a sight of him drained enough not to hold his body straight.
However, determination and anger were written all over his face as his eyes narrowed and it was the only thing which felt familiar about him.
It was the sole thing helping you to maintain a piece of sanity, his attitude shining a ray of hope into the darkness and horror of this godforsaken place when a psycho who hooked up Steve to some machine to deliver periodical electric pulses.
Jesus. Christ.
One simple word, mumbled with difficulty, yet carrying a menace; it broke the silence suddenly and startlingly.
“You,” Steve muttered, glaring at your masked captor.
You blinked simultaneously with Steve; while he was apparently attempting to shake off his drowsiness, you were simply confused.
He… had he had an idea who this psycho was?
Your captor ignored him though and went to seat himself to a chair by the polygraph and one more device, causing your face drain of all colour in a terrifying premonition.
“Now that we are all set-“
“You’re the vendor,” Steve stated, still fighting the effect of sedatives, forcing his muscles to move according to his commands.
The fact that he couldn’t was heart-breaking, but what he called the man behind the mask was downright mind-blowing.
The… the vendor? As if-
The man sighed, a breathless chuckle escaping his lips as he reached for the edge of the mask, pealing it off.
To your undiluted shock, he truly revealed a face of a man who had sold you the ring.
What the actual-- you had found him creepy okay, but not I’m-going-to-kidnap-you-and-torture-you creepy! How—how did he even get to you, how did he overpower a freaking supersoldier, how he moved him anywhere, Steve was a mass of muscle, heavy and this guy was just-
“Nothing escapes your attention, I see,” the unmasked man remarked. “I should have known. There is no point in hiding then. Let’s begin-“
“How did you find us?” Steve demanded and for the first time since you had been back to consciousness, it dawned to you that… this was, in fact, what you had wanted. You wanted the man behind the kidnappings to find you.
You most definitely hadn’t wanted it to come to this¸ but-
Despite feeling like absolute shit, cold and terrified in your very core, you… you forced yourself to stop freaking out that much at least. Your mission was on. This was the plan.
Kinda.
“The tracker in the ring, naturally,” the madman answered almost kindly, one corner of his lips rising.
Your heart nearly gave out; he put a tracker in the ring?! What the fuck?!
And then it hit you; a tracker.
You had two trackers on you now; one in the ring from this psycho, one in the necklace from Tony freaking Stark.
The Avengers must have been on their way already Your eyes fluttered close, relief flooding your veins from the centre of your chest to your fingertips. It would be over soon.
Right?
“Unfortunately, I have to inform you I needed to deactivate the tracking devices in your necklace and belt.”
Your eyes snapped open in horror, finding Steve’s alarmed ones.
What? WHAT?!
Fuck.
No, don’t freak out (again) just yet! Surely Tony freaking Stark had counted on that option, right? Because he was a genius, he-
The pure horror in Steve’s face told you otherwise. No, he hadn’t. At least not that Steve knew of.
Fuck, fuck, FUCK-!!
Steve slowly shook his head, grimacing; he wasn’t one to give up. And spotting the terror on your face, he most definitely was not the one to submit, no, he would be the one to keep your head above water before you could drown in panic.
“Was smart,” Steve muttered, apparently still with difficulty, but more clearly now. You would be delighted that his state improving, except your mind was too busy trying to figure out why the heck did it sound as if he just praised your kidnapper. “So is your profession. You can get the information on new couples first-hand.”
The vendor seemed thoughtful as he nodded, but then a scowl twisted his expression.
“Wouldn’t be my first choice.”
And it finally, finally dawned to your slow brain what was Steve doing. He was stalling. To what end you weren’t sure, but you hoped it meant that the Ironman himself would be able to find you anyway… somehow.
“What… what would be your first choice?” you whispered softly, too scared of setting something in him off by speaking louder.
“Doesn’t matter. I found my purpose now,” he replied, leaning to the machines and you gulped when a spark flied from it.
“And what is the purpose again?”
The man turned to Steve at the question. “I am a servant of love. Of true love. One of faith, trust and honesty,” he declared proudly and you wanted to puke. He sounded fucking insane.
A servant of love? Tell that to the missing couples!
“How do you serve this love?” Steve queried, somehow managing to sound genuinely interested and when the other man hesitated, you held your breath.
“Mm. I protect people from entering a marriage based on lies.”
BY KIDNAPPING THEM AND KILLING THEM?!
Because that was the assumption, wasn’t it? If the couples had disappeared and never reappeared, then they were very likely dead.
Just like you might be in a couple of minutes.
You breathed through the hysteria crawling up your throat, rather holding onto the fact Steve was still trying to do something here. The stalling seemed to be working well.
But for how long? And was the time bought with this enough for the Avengers finding you despite this man’s plots?
“You’re protecting them from the same fate you suffered,” Steve deduced and you winced.
“Yes. I know the pain lies can cause to a man. Love must be pure. When you promise dedication to another person, you must be truly committed to them,” he stated seriously and your head… spun as you slowly pierced together a story of a man with a broken heart and… a broken mind, turning absolutely fucking mad from the betrayal.
Ill, he was ill, mentally, but that didn’t justify his actions in the slightest.
“You were married and your partner has been unfaithful,” Steve guessed, but sounded as if he knew for sure, coming to the same conclusion as you.
“How do you-“ the vendor chuckled then, a watery sound as his own memories must have been brought to life, reopening the wound and rubbing salt in it. “Of course you would figure it out…. She sat in this very chair, you know? With her new fiancé. And she didn’t even love him. She was only after his money. And he didn’t love her either, just enjoying the adventure. Such a shame…”
Your blood crystalized in your veins, icy cold, and not for the first time, your stomach turned all over, its contents threatening to spill from your mouth.
He… had he—he-
“Where is she now?” you quipped, unable to keep the question from spilling from your lips, needing to know the answer and dreading it at the same time.
His smile was blinding as he looked at you. “In eternity.”
A violent tremble shook your body and your eyes closed at their own account, tears welling up and instantly rolling down your cheeks.
“I’m sure I’ll meet her one day and we will be reunited, her soul reaching absolution, her love for me finally purified.”
Well, I hope she reached absolution and you’ll rot in hell, you sadistic psycho. You murdered your ex-wife!
“You had enough answers. I’m gonna ask now. Don’t you dare to lie; lies only bring pain to our loved ones,” he warned you, his voice carrying the echo of his own heartbreak.
To deliver his point, your captor pressed a button on what looked like a primitive remote.
A sharp tingle ran through your body and you jerked in your seat, a startled yelp escaping you.
Steve hissed, apparently receiving the same treatment, but being less bothered by it; or at least aiming to appear like that for your benefit.
It was scarily easy to comprehend what was about to happen. You were about to get a shock treatment for every lie leaving your lips.
Steve’s eyes locked on you, pleading. The message written in them was clear; don’t lie at any circumstances.
You didn’t need to be told twice; you did not want to be punished by fucking electricity, thank you very much.
“Let’s start with low intensity and simple questions…” the man informed you casually, rising from his seat, and walked to Steve right after he set something on the machine. It started humming and his words echoed in your skull, bouncing dully in the space with terrible realization. He was about to turn up the intensity at some point. Jesus fuck. “Do you care for this woman, Captain?”
Steve fought to raise his chin in defiance, looking the man dead in the eye.
“Yes.”
Your captor turned to you, smiling. “Told you I’d start with the easy ones. Isn’t it nice to know the truth? Look at that. No significant changes to the lines.”
You followed his line of gaze, noticing for the first time the outcome of the… testing. The polygraph monitoring yours and Steve’s whatever was writing down lines of low amplitudes.  He was right.
And you didn’t give a shit.
You just wanted to-- to be free again and not under the threat of being possibly electrocuted.
He went to switch something on the machine before asking you the same question. “Now… do you care for this man?”
This question indeed was easy; yet, the intense eyes of the man who had your destiny in his hands made it hard for you to breathe and answer.
“Y-yes.”
The scribbling on the paper of the polygraph got madder and your heart honest to God stopped.
What the fuck, you were telling the truth!
Your examiner frowned at the paper. “You’re a nervous one, aren’t you? Don’t worry about that.”
No fucking kidding, you have me connected to a-
“Let’s proceed. Have you ever kissed someone else since you started this relationship?”
“Have you had an intercourse with someone else since you started this relationship?”
These were easy to pass; especially considering that you had started fake-dating Steve only two – three? – days ago.
Was it really so shortly? It felt like eternity.
Then again, you felt like you had been in this creepy-as-fuck dungeon, your heart beating so fast that it might fail any second, for hours. And the period seemingly grew more immense as he turned up the potential punishment with each question.
Where the fuck was Tony Stark when you needed him?! Being fashionably late was not an option right now!
“You’re doing very well so far,” the man praised you both with a satisfied smile and moved to Steve once more; not before he modified the volts again.
You shivered at both his expression and actions. You prayed to Lord that you didn’t come across as lying, the memory of the short but intense warning at the beginning of the questioning still vivid in your mind. And that had been just a taste, the levels were much higher now.
A violent shudder shook your body.
“Have you always been honest about your feelings for her?”
For a brief moment, your brain just… froze.
There was one thing you hadn’t considered about this whole ordeal and that Steve finding out how you felt about him.
The moment you’d be asked that question… you’d either had to lie and get… some shock treatment or you’d have to tell the truth.
There was a saying about a rock and a hard place and you felt like it very much applied right now. Also… what would the man do if you told the truth and said no? He was all about honesty and if you hadn’t been honest with Steve, then there was clearly something wrong; at least according to his messed-up code or some shit.
Fuck rocks and hard places.
“I…” Steve whispered, finding your gaze. One look into his eyes and you realized that he was… torn.
Why was he torn? Did he hate you and never told you or something? That was ridiculous, right? You would have noticed that.
“Yes, Captain?” the man encouraged him.
Steve gulped, locking glares with the man. “Yes.”
The sudden beep nearly made you jump out of your skin and the man sighed, his whole demeanour changing. He eyed you and you couldn’t but frown.
Steve lied. You tried hard not to think about why, but thought about the fact that he did and… and that he was-- he was about to get-
“You don’t— you don’t need to hurt him, he’s-“ you quickly blurted out, panicking more when Steve shook his head behind the psycho with the remote, mouthing ‘don’t’. “-I’m sure it’s only some… misunderstanding.”
Yeah, you could see why Steve discouraged you from speaking.
You sounded utterly stupid and pathetic.
“See, that’s what I thought at first about my late wife. This can’t be happening in an honest relationship. I’m truly sorry about this,” he hummed regretfully, stepping away from Steve.
Your heart was squeezed by a cold fist when you saw the supersoldier – momentarily incapacitated – brace for the pain and your hands balled into fists, nails digging into your palms.
“Wait-“ you called out once more, but the man pushed the button anyway.
Your body was set on fire.
An agonized scream erupted from your chest, but you might have imagined it, because you didn’t have control over anything.
Someone struck a match and threw it on your body drenched in gasoline, igniting every cell, every nerve ending; acid flew through your veins, burning, everywhere, inside, outside, pain, pain, pain- and screams, a voice full of rage and desperation, God, is this hell, searing hot, cries of agony, black and crimson, blinding white of the burning heat, fire, fire and no end in sight, only more gasoline poured in--
You gasped as if you were pulled out from under water and earned a second above surface, greedily swallowing oxygen through your burning windpipe, stinging pressure expanding in your lungs, more, more, Jesus, you needed more-
Your fingertips tingled painfully, the muscles in your forearms spasming, the aftertaste of the unbearable heat it had been through stabbing tiny needles in every cell in your body. You were collapsed in the armchair, limp, unable to control the furious fight for oxygen your body led.
Your vision was blurry, dark spots dancing on its edges, pulsing visibly with each frantic beat of your heart.
The male voice – Steve’s, you realized – was still yelling, menacing and deadly.
“STOP! WHY did you do that to her?!” he demanded heatedly, the cerulean of his eyes swallowed by the darkest fury— and glazed by wetness of welled-up tears. “I’m sorry, oh god, I’m so sorry-“
“I told you,” your captor stated coldly and as you tried to focus on him, your mind buzzing loudly with the aftermath of his punishment, you found your own cheeks damp, vision blurred by tears. “Lies hurt the people we love. People we care for.”
“She didn’t do ANYTHING WRONG!” Steve yelled, sitting surprisingly upward for few seconds before he no doubt received his periodic discharge to keep his strength in check and he melted back into the chair with a frustrated grimace, trying to get up the very next second.
“No, she didn’t. You did. Now you know how this works.”
Between your raged breaths and your mind slowly clearing, you swore in your head. Answering this guy’s questions just got hella lot harder. You had not thought you’d enjoy going through that agony ever again, but the thought of putting someone else through it, Steve of all people, that was downright unthinkable.
And fucked up on an entirely new level.
“Now, dear, have you always-“
Staring at Steve’s face, white as the very sheet of paper where the records of his life functions were being written down, screaming thousands of apologies-- something in you snapped and you glared daggers at the sicko of a man who kidnapped you only to do-- this.
“Hey! No, I wasn’t. He was my friend first, have you thought of that? Do you think we just confessed our love to each other the first time we realized it? The first time we realized that we fell for our friend’s friend? No, the answer is one big NO. You bet your fucking ass that I wasn’t honest!” you sputtered at him, leaning forward only the two inches you could.
You hadn’t thought it was possible, but Steve’s face turned even paler as he shot the insane man a look, dreading his reaction.
Okay, maybe you should have considered that Steve might get shocked for your boldness, shit-
But the man in charge only frowned at you, seemingly deep in thought for endless seconds and then he broke into a manic smile.
“I’ll give you this one. You have a point. Very well…”
You sighed in relief; it appeared you wouldn’t find out the consequences of him not liking the truth just yet. Relaxing in your chair, you winced when your forearm spasmed again without your intent.
It wasn’t as painful anymore; but it was incredibly annoying not to be able to control your movements.
The involuntary twitch of muscle didn’t escape Steve’s attention and the deep wrinkle on his forehead which had been the first thing you noticed after— eh, the end of the shock, deepened. His brows were furrowed in concern, the corners of his mouth twisted downward and he just… you had been in agony, alright, it still fucking hurt, but you desperately wanted to give Steve a hug just to erase that troubled expression from his face.
“Moving to another question then. Is there anything you would change about her?”
The look on Steve’s face rivalled one of puppy now – a kicked one. “No.”
“Would you change anything about him?”
“No,” you answered simply, managing a reassuring smile. ‘I’m okay,’ you mouthed and he shook his head, glancing away, his eyes glassy.
You captor nodded for himself. “Back on the right track. One last question then, the most important one…”
You shifted in your seat uncomfortably. It sounded ominous and that was saying something coming from you, considering everything that had happened today.
The machine hummed loudly as the man set the volts to maximum before turning Steve’s direction.
“Do you love her?”
Your heart gave out.
Well, fuck.
It was to be expected, really. It was a perfectly logical question; the man who had your lives in his hands was a self-proclaimed protector of love, claiming to have the duty of ensuring people who were about to get married loved each other unconditionally and with no lie driving a wedge between them.
Yet, hearing the question fall from the madman’s lips paralysed you and filled you with emptiness, numbness settling deep inside your chest.
‘Do you love her?’
Four simple words sealing your fate.
Because no answer Steve could give was the right one, no answer would satisfy the murderer.
And judging by Steve’s expression, he realized that as well.
For several moments, you granted yourself the luxury of your eyelids falling shut, setting your jaw tight to keep your teeth from clattering in fear. You rocked back and forth in the chair, as much as your restraints allowed you to. Tears warmed your cheeks, salty paths of selfish grief, crying for you own life rushing towards its end.
Perhaps Steve could still escape?
You focused on the numbness in your ribcage, letting it engulf you, letting spread it through your mind until all you could think was a blank space.
Only then, you opened your eyes again, meeting Steve’s utterly desperate gaze and you knew, knew that there was no way out of this; no loophole. He had no doubt come to the same conclusion.
The inner turmoil he must have been feeling reflected in his eyes – torn and hurt, dreading what would happen if he told the truth; you both knew what was coming if he lied, you had been through that, but what if he admitted that he didn’t love you? What would this maniac do?
Steve’s jaw was clenched tight, a muscle twitching in what could be irritation. In the terribly silent space, the scribbling of the polygraph grew maddeningly loud, a noise of unbearable volume.
More tears escaped the wells of your eyes, your body trembling violently. You cursed the moment you had said yes to this insanity; you had been so stupid and naïve. Hiding behind doing the right thing, while wishing to be closer to Steve with no consequences to your friendship. How idiotic was that?
And where had that brought you?
To an empty cold room, seconds from being electrocuted.
Because that was what was about to happen, wasn’t it? If Steve said yes, the volts momentarily being set would kill you, no doubt. Lies hurt the people we love. If Steve said no… you were doomed as well, because this psycho was obsessed with the idea of love, it was the very reason why he was doing this. You were not stuck between a rock and a hard place; you were trapped between a death sentence and a death sentence.
Your eyelids slid shut for another moment and you tried your best to shush the sob crawling up your throat.
You were about to die.
Fuck, you didn’t want to die!
“Please, please don’t do this,” a voice whispered into the staccato of the machines, cracking at the plea and your brain barely registered it was your own voice. The shock of the realization caused you to open your eyes again and your gaze fixated on your captor. “Please.”
He shook his head, making his way to Steve, imploring eyes shining with madness and excitement.
“Do you truly love this woman?”
You shook your head helplessly as Steve’s pained gaze found yours, his mouth twisted in a desperate grimace, the cerulean of his eyes speaking thousands of words. Thousands of apologies.
Your quivering lips formed a smile for the briefest moment, one of bravery, to encourage him to speak, to tell him that you didn’t blame him for this mess.
“It’s okay, Steve,” you reassured him softly, choking on a sob, which completely ruined your pretence of actually being strong. But what did it matter? You were a dead woman anyway.
Tears glistened in Steve’s eyes and he shook his head, pressing his lips together. The guilt of pulling you into this – a misplaced guilt – was evident, clearly eating him alive. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed dryly. He lowered his gaze to the floor, ignoring the man who had basically climbed into his personal space.
“Do you love her?“
You saw Steve’s chest expanding vehemently with an inhale and you knew that the moment was here.
“Yes,” slipped past his lips.
In the half-second that followed, your only thought was that Steve wanted you to leave this world thinking he cared about you enough for wanting it to be quick – just one word to end this and deliver the shock rather than telling the truth and waiting for the madman’s response to the revelation.
You squeezed your eyes shut, tears springing out, your body bracing for the unbearable pain and then, hopefully, nothing.
In death, there should be peace, right? No pain? Not for the dead anyway – no, pain was the privilege of survivors; years of friendship with Sam taught you that.
Five seconds passed and your brain was fried.
Not because of electricity coursing through your body, setting aflame everything in its path, no; it was because of the revelation that the only thing burning was your muscles as you had them all flexed to their limit in anticipation of agony.
Agony, which was for some reason still not coming. The discharge was never delivered and with your heart beating with nearly enough force to break your ribcage, your eyes fluttered open with a gasp, swimming in tears.
You tried to focus your blurry vision on the machine that must have circuited somehow, you saw the shadow of the man moving… but when your vision cleared, you saw that everything was still on. The lights didn’t even flicker. The needle of the polygraph continued its steady path.
But—but- how-
Blinking some more, you barely heard your kidnapper praise the result.
Steve- he-- how did he--- he couldn’t possibly- how had he lied to the machine?
Your eyes found his face, his brows furrowed in concern and… guilt? What-
He was fast to avoid your gaze, resignation settling in his features, muscles no longer tensed; as much as he could control them anyway. Only his jaw twitched again, but he refused to look up at you.
Realization hit you like a ton of bricks.
An incredible, unbelievable revelation.
Could he… could he have been telling the truth? Was it-- was it even possible that he might… love you? But-
An incredulous delighted chuckle nearly escaped your lips, but was quickly dissolved when your captor appeared in front of you, smiling brightly, finger on the remote.
“And you… do you love this man? Truly?”
You faced the ceiling as you blinked your tears away, your whole body hurting and yet basking in relief, pleasant sensation seeping into your bones through your skin like the first warm sunrays in the spring.
You’d surely make it out now, alive. The torment would haunt you, yes, but the result… if Steve accepted your answer, this might in fact be a start of something beautiful.
“Steve?” you whispered breathlessly, searching to meet his gaze, because he deserved as much, such a brave, brave man, heart on his sleeve, always doing the right thing.
He risked your rejection – as long as it meant you would live. It might seem like a natural and logical choice, but you had met people who would have most likely chosen the other option. Your ex was one, for god’s sake.
Of course, Steve wouldn’t.
“Steve, look at me, please.”
He stubbornly kept staring at the floor, his hand curling up in a loose fist. You sighed. The machine’s reassurance would have to suffice then; still, your heart sang.
Just as you parted your lips to give your answer, a deafening bang on your right forced you to duck as much as possible while strapped to the chair.
A shock wave of an explosion knocked your chair over, and you were falling-- the pain you had awaited ever since Steve said yes finally coming when your head hit the floor and everything went black.
Thoughts, anyone?
I could have had the ‘reader’ confess instead of Steve, but I find this much more fun to write ;) I wanted to try a different dynamic… admit it, you thought it was going to be the other way around :P or did you? Talk to me, please, if you’re willing :-*
part. i, ii, iii, iv, v (coming soon)
A/N; I’m sorry this took so long to get up, i’m a slow writer when I’m not motivated, but yesterday I buckled down and wrote over five thousand words because I was determined to get this part posted for you lovely people. hope you enjoy! lmk if I didn’t tag you and you wanted to be added to the tag list!!
“Oh my god you live in a palace!” Taehyung gasped, pressing his face against the window of your passenger’s side seat. You giggled at the absolute wonder that sparkled in his dark eyes as you pulled into your driveway.
Actually getting the three hybrids to your home was probably more difficult than it should have been.
Taehyung was really the only one that understood the general ins and outs of cars, while Jimin and Jungkook were at a total loss. Jungkook expressed through broken sentences that the last time he’d been in a car, he’d been forced to sit in the truck. They may have put a crack in your heart.
After stuffing all their belongings (which was a shockingly small amount considering there were three of them) into the trunk, it took a solid ten minutes just to get Jungkook to accept that he needed to wear a seatbelt; he damn near ripped it out of your car with all his unnecessary tugging and squirming. You’re ashamed to admit you were very much debating just tying him up with some rope and duct tape to keep him still.
It took another twenty to reassure an anxious Jimin that the car would not eat him and the seatbelt was just to keep him from falling out of his seat. It took Taehyung offering Jimin one of his stuffed animals, an adorable yellow chicklet, for him to finally relax. And you’d be lying if you said seeing the petite skunk hybrid clutching the little stuffed animal to his chest in his tiny hands wasn’t the purest thing you’d ever laid eyes on,
All the while Taehyung was happily bouncing in the passenger seat, a big boxy grin plastered across his handsome face as he waited for you to begin the drive home.
“Not quite,” you chuckled in amusement at his awestruck expression, “but it’s pretty, isn’t it?”
You weren’t going to deny it; you had a nice home.
Plenty of spacious rooms, a beautiful pool accompanied by a hot tub, three bedrooms– although only one (now two) being put to its intended use as the third was being used as an in home gym area. Not a mansion by any standards but definitely up in the higher percentile.
It, of course, had originally been a surprise from your Aunt when you graduated from college. Talk about extravagant gift giving. But she wouldn’t allow you to turn it away, no matter how adamantly you insisted you wouldn’t be able to maintain the place. For god’s sake you were just coming out of the shitty run down college dorms and suddenly having this gorgeous house catapulted onto you. She claimed that it was either hand it down to you or send a bulldozer over the property.
And you were not one to enjoy seeing beautiful things being carelessly destroyed.
So in spite of initial hesitance, you accepted. It took you awhile to adjust to the place, but once you had, it really had become a home to you. And you hoped it could become a home to your three new hybrids as well. A place they could feel safe to be themselves, a place where they didn’t have to hide themselves out of insecurity or fear of rejection. A place they could find genuine happiness.
Shit, when’d you get so sappy?
“Big! Big!” Jungkook chanted as he popped his head between your and Taehyung’s seat to get a better view, blinking those big sparkling eyes in amazement. You giggled, before turning to glance at Jimin. His eyes were squinted, face strained as it seemed he was having some trouble making out what he was looking at. But as soon as he realized you were looking, he plastered a shy, unconvincing smile across his face, head bowing.
“I–it’s nice…” you opened your mouth to question him, but Jungkook cut you off.
“Kookie go in now,” He declared. You watched in amusement as he pushed at the door, nowhere near the handle. He blinked in confusion as it didn’t immediately pop open for him. He then tried a random button, flinching in surprise as the window began to lower. He watched, seemingly transfixed as it slid out of sight, before placing his feet on top of the seat and crouching. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what he was about to do.
“Jungkook no!” You laughed loudly, reaching back and gently gripping the back of his shirt to keep him from launching himself head first out the window.
He turned to you with the cutest look of frustration, “why?”
“Pull the handle and then push,” you instructed, pointing to it.
He cautiously wrapped his hand around said handle, pulling it towards him and then pushing rather harshly on the door. His brows jumped up in amazement as the door easily swung open. It was only when he immediately hopped out of the car that you realized his seatbelt hadn’t been securely strapped around him. He must’ve undone it when you weren’t looking. Mischievous bunny.
Taehyung turned to you, with excitement in his eyes, “are we allowed to go inside now? I really want to see what it’s like inside!” His enthusiasm was contagious, and a wide smile broke out on your face.
“Of course! Let’s head in.”
Taehyung squealed, quickly undoing his seatbelt and rushing out of the car. You smiled to yourself, about to exit the vehicle before suddenly catching a glimpse of Jimin in the back seat. His lower lip was sucked into his mouth, his knees pulled up to his chest as he cradled the small chick under his chin, delicate eyes downcast. He looked so conflicted.
“Are you coming?” Taehyung tilted his head in confusion upon noticing neither of you had moved from your seats.
“Um— why don’t you go ahead, I’ll be there in a minute, okay? The key is under the potted plant on the right side of the door, you know how to use it?” Taehyung quickly nodded and bounced off to join Jungkook (who was aggressively pulling at the doorknob) at the door.
Once he was out of earshot, you returned your attention to Jimin. “Hey, Jimin, are you alright?”
Despite you having intentionally softened your voice, he still flinched, eyes sliding up to unsurely meet yourself. He seemed at a loss for words, mouth opening and shutting multiple times, on the verge of speaking but never getting out so much as a squeak.
But he did gasp in surprise as you suddenly jumped into the backseat (not very gracefully but still managing not to crack your head open so you’re chilling). “Hi there,” you smiled widely at the slightly baffled skunk hybrid.
“Hi…” his voice was quiet as a pin drop. His closed off nature was really beginning to show, and it made your heart sore with sadness.
“How are you feeling? Please be honest with me,” you shifted slightly closer to him, a tender upturn of your lips all it took to coax him out of his anxious silence.
He swallowed, gaze flitting. “I’m… I guess I’m… scared…”
“What’re you scared of?” You carefully pushed, wanting more than anything to reach out and run your knuckles over one of those adorably round cheeks, but refraining– just barely.
He sucked his frustratingly perfect lips into his mouth, noncommittally shrugging his shoulders as his grip on the small stuffed animal tightened. “I don’t… know… a lot of things, I guess…” each word seemed to grow quieter and quieter as it escaped him.
“It’s okay to be scared,” you murmured softly, “I know all of this change is scary. And, I know we don’t know each other very well right now, but I’d really like to get to know you, Jimin. All of you. I want us to be a real family, and I know we can be. Just… don’t give up on me just yet, okay? I’m pretty fuck— freaking far from perfect, so I know I’ll most definitely make a few mistakes. But I’ll do everything in my power to make you happy, I can promise you that.”
He looked up at you slowly, dark eyes shining behind his bangs. Shit, he had such beautiful eyes. Your chest tightened a bit as a wave of nerves struck you suddenly. You really hoped you said the right things, that maybe he’d trust you just a little bit more. Any progress is still progress, after all— another thing you’d learned from your oh–so wise auntie.
“Would you like to come inside now?”
You extended your hand for him with a gentle smile. The corners of his lips twitched upward subtly, and he shyly nodded his head, “y–yes.”
His hand was warm and soft, and small oh god it was so small as it slid delicately into your palm. You had to hold your breath as you carefully guided him out of the car from the pure adoration you felt towards him.
He didn’t let go of your hand the entire way to your front door, head bowed as an endearing blush settled on his cheeks.
Somehow, you remained outwardly composed. Stepping through the threshold of your front door, you were immediately greeted by a gasping Taehyung as he darted back and forth, taking in every last inch of your home with massive, shining eyes. You giggled, cupping a hand over your mouth as you watched the excited pup practically bounce off the walls every time he discovered something new to gawk at.
“Look at this! Oh my god what is that!? Wow that’s so cool! I’ve never seen one of these before! It’s so pretty! Can I keep this? Ohmygoditssoshiny,” words, questions, and exclamations were being spit out of his mouth faster than you could keep track. Suddenly he halted, ears raised, tail stiff, “wait a second.”
“Is–is something wrong?”
“Yes!” He yelped, before his eyes met yours, and he seemed to shrink in on himself, “I mean— no, no definitely not. Everything is perfectly perfect and beautiful and amazing…”
“But?” You tilted your head, watching as a soft pout twisted the corners of his lips downwards.
“But…” he swallowed, rocking on the balls of his feet as he fiddled with his fingers behind his back, “I was wondering— you mentions— are there may be any—”
It suddenly clicked what he was so hopelessly searching for. A playful, mischievous smile twitched at the corners of your mouth. “Toys?”
His entire body seemed to jump upright, ears raising to their full height, tail whipping upwards and twitching in tiny anticipating wags, eyebrows dramatically lifting as his eyes widened adorably. A desperate whine ripped from his lips as he performed a little wiggle.
“If you go up the stairs, turn left, last door on your right—” aaand he was off.
“OHMYGOD,” you heard his muffled screams of glee, snorting loudly.
Puppy has a kink for toys, that’s for sure.
“Where the hell is Jungkook?” You muttered, suddenly realizing you hadn’t seen or heard him since you walking into your home.
It was more to yourself really, but Jimin stuck his button nose up in the air nonetheless. You watched in amazement as he inhaled deeply, chest inflating, before his finger raised, pointing towards your back door.
“Shit, but that leads to the—”
A loud splash had you shrieking in horror and bolting outside, damn near cracking the glass sliding door in your haste.
The crystal blue water of your pool was jumping and foaming, angrily disturbed from its previous calmness. Below the surface there was a dark, distorted blob, slowly sinking.
“Fuck! Fuck, fuck, fuck,” you cursed loudly, “Jungkook!”
This would only fucking happen to you of all the people in the fucking world. You brought the hybrids home not ten minutes ago and one of them was already in danger. There was no way in hell you were about to let his little mutant bunny ass drown.
“Mother of shitness—” those were the last words to escape your lips before you heaved in two lungfuls of air and dove head first into the chilly water. You forced your eyes open in the chlorinated water, easily locating a blurry dark form a little way in front of you.
But, it wasn’t sinking.
In fact, it was rising. Very quickly.
The fuCK.
Breaking the surface, you were immediately greeted by a casually treading bunny hybrid. His eyebrows raised a fraction upon seeing you in front of him, but the surprised look vanished into a happy smile.
“Swim with Kookie?” He asked innocently, head tilting.
“Are you kidding me, Jungkook? Why in the holy hell did you think getting into the pool fully dressed was a good idea?” You hissed, water splashing as you clumsily tread, legs kicking quickly as your hands flung around.
His brows furrowed, a confused pout touching his lips as he glanced down at your submerged body. “Full dress, too?”
“I thought you fell in and were drowning or some shit, I was trying to save you!” You cried, “you gave me a fucking heart attack, Jungkook!”
He suddenly smiled shyly, cheeks rising as his gaze flicked down, “save Kookie?”
“Yes, save Kookie! But apparently Kookie doesn’t need any saving because Kookie already knows how to swim and purposeful jumped into my pool with all his clothes on,” You hissed, reaching out to grab his hand and tugging him to the edge of the pool, “now it’s time for Kookie to get out of the pool.”
You hauled yourself out first, grimacing as your clothes stuck like glue to your skin. Not to mention wet socks. You can’t imagine a time you’d ever been more uncomfortable than when you were wearing wet socks.
With a defeated sigh, you swiveled around, about to lend the bunny a helping hand, “Okay, Jungkook hop out— Jungkook what the hell happened to your clothes?!”
He smiled, proudly pointing at the pile of sopping wet clothes sitting on the side of the pool that he’d managed to strip off weirdly fast. “Naked!” He chirped like it was the most natural thing in the world.
God have mercy.
…
“Okay Jungkook, repeat to me the rules?” You hummed, carefully towel drying his wet hair, making sure to be extra gentle with his big, sensitive ears in the way.
“No pool without ask. Hm, no run near pool. No swim ‘lone. No outside after dark. No swim full dress. And… and no swim naked.”
“That’s right! Good job, Kookie,” you cooed, and he grinned proudly, wiggling happily in place. You turned your attention to the other two hybrids in the room.
Jimin was nestled up against your back, sleepily watching the movie you’d put on for them. Homeward Bound, a personal childhood favorite of yours. Never failed to bring you to tears. Taehyung, who’s made himself comfortable on the floor in front of you, was more engrossed with the dinosaur squeaky toy that he was happily gnawing on, squeaking up a storm. It might have gotten on your nerve had he not looked so fucking adorable, big eyes shiny with happiness and lips drawn into a never wavering grin.
“You hear that boys? Those rules apply to you, too. I don’t need anymore incidents like today.” You informed sternly, drawing both of their attentions to you.
Taehyung quickly nodded his head, toy dropping from his mouth and into his lap as he spoke, “I understand! I’ll be real good, promise! I’m good at following rules, I think.”
You reached down, ruffling his hair in praise. His tail quickly began beating against the hardwood floor with loud thumps as he leaned into your touch, grinning widely. You turned your attention to the skunk curled up behind you, peering over your shoulder.
“Jimin?”
“I–I don’t like to swim… but I understand.” He affirmed in that soft, melodic voice of his, thick with sleepiness. Jungkook piped in before you could reply.
“Kookie like to swim! What Kookie swim in?”
“When we go shopping tomorrow, I’ll buy Kookie a swimsuit,” you explained simply, briefly taking your focus off of drying his dark locks to meet his gaze, lips twitching upward at how cute he looked, white towel laid on top of his head, ears flopping down on either side of his face.
The incident with Jungkook leaping into your pool opened up a few fundamental truths you’d have to face.
One; clothes. They needed clothes. The one thing you’d failed to collect on your shopping binge earlier in the week for obvious reasons were things for your hybrids to wear. And of the very few things they’d brought from the shelter, outfits held an even smaller portion. Having all worn the same white scrubs everyday left little need for duplicates.
And after Jungkook soaked his only pair, you’d had to force him into one of your favorite pairs of large grey sweatpants and an extra large white t-shirt that somehow still managed to hug ever inch his admittedly muscular body. It was an interesting look for him. It made Taehyung giggle, that’s for sure.
You also made a mental note that Jimin needed glasses ASAP. He obviously had a lot of difficulty seeing things beyond a certain distance and you were surprised he hadn’t been given any at the shelter.  Getting glasses was a long, annoying, and expensive process, but you didn’t mind as long as he’d be able to see properly.
Two; they might need some help navigating life outside of the shelter. You’d definitely be needing to set some boundaries. Obviously, they’d spent most of their lives in small living quarters, closed off from the real word. As a result, they’ve never been exposed to many seemingly ordinary courtesies such as manners, or public decency…or not stripping buck naked whenever they damn well feel like it. That could use some adjustment.
And three; Jungkook was going to be keeping you on your toes for a while. You’d have to keep an eye on that little troublemaking bastard at all times to make sure he doesn’t do something unintentionally reckless and get himself hurt.
All in all, you felt a second massive shopping spree was in order. This time for more specific commodities.
“Kookie swim in swim…s–suit?” He asked, stuttering faintly on the pronunciation.
That reminded you, you’d also need to ask Hoseok about speech lessons to help Jungkook with communication. As far as you can tell, he has no problem getting his point across, you can understand him perfectly fine, but to what extent does it reach?
“Can I get a swimsuit, too?” Taehyung asked, a pleading pout resting on his lips.
“Of course, you can all get swimsuits,” you glanced at Jimin, “just in case you ever change your mind. Now that that’s settled…” you pulled the towel off of Jungkook’s now only slightly damp hair, jumping up off the couch, “who wants pizza?”
All the boys seemed the grimace at the mention of the cheesy delicacy.
“What’s with those faces? Don’t tell me you don’t like pizza,” you laughed, but it died in your throat almost immediately.
You gaped at them in horror, clasping a hand over your mouth as they all shared a telling look. No fucking way. They didn’t like pizza? How was that possible? Maybe they were lactose intolerant or something. There had to be an explanation.
“How do you guys not like pizza? I practically live off of it most days of the week!” Taehyung flinched faintly as you raised your voice, despite your harmless intention.
“W–well, we’ll have it if you want us to, master. It’s just that… the shelter gave us pizza every other Friday, I guess it was supposed to be a treat of sorts… but it wasn’t very good,” Taehyung explained in a meek, unsure voice, lead lowering as he peered up at you.
“That’s probably because it was that organic, healthy shit. No, I’m talking about real pizza. Cheesy, delicious, juicy, thick crust, crunchy on the outside but soft on the in— wait, did you just call me master?”
He seemed to shrink in on himself. His ears flattened against his head, tail ticking between his legs. You’re no expert on animal behavior, but you didn’t need a degree to see that he was showing submission.
“Is… is that bad? Am I in trouble? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” his voice broke into a whimper, but you were quick to drop down to your knees in front of him, shaking you head.
“No, no you’re not in trouble, sweetheart, you’re alright. You didn’t do anything wrong,” you made sure to keep your voice soft and stable, gently taking one of his hands in yours, “I was just a little surprised is all.”
He seemed to calm at your reassurance, body language relaxing, “really?”
“Really.” You giggled, reaching up to nudge his cheek with your knuckles. That’s all it took to have his face brightening up with a grin as he nuzzled into your touch. “But you know you don’t have to address me like that, right? Unless, you wanted to call me something different, you can just call me y/n.”
“Kookie call you y/n,” the bunny hybrid declared from his perch on the couch, nodding firmly, “y/n nice name.”
“Why thank you. Jungkook is a very nice name, as well,” you cooed playfully.
Jungkook shrugged cockily, “I know.”
You laughed loudly at that.
“I–I’ll call you y/n, too… if that’s okay,” Jimin squeaked, blushing a pretty shade of pink as your eyes met his fluttering ones.
“It’s more than okay, beautiful,” you grinned, shooting a playful wink in his direction.
His eyes widened, face exploding in a deep red as a squeak escaped his lips. You watched with a wide smile as he grabbed the nearest pillow, shoving his face into it in a feeble attempt to hide his rose colored cheeks. Jungkook snickered at the smaller hybrid’s reaction, nose wrinkling in the most bunny like way imaginable.
“Then I’ll call you y/n, too!” Taehyung sprung back to his happy go lucky self, lips splitting into a massive grin as his tail began to whip back and forth behind him.
“Perfect,” you smiled, reaching up and scratching behind his ear, “now, about that pizza…”
. . .
Within the next thirty minutes, you and the boys had swallowed down two whole boxes of large, cheesy pizza for your favorite pizza place. Talk about a food baby.
“That was so much better than the shelter’s pizza,” Taehyung groaned, tossing his head back as he rested a hand on his well fed belly, “I’ve never been this stuffed in my life!”
Jimin nodded quickly in agreement, still working on finishing his last piece. He was an adorably slow eater, very careful with his bites in not getting sauce anywhere on his face. Jungkook and Taehyung on the other hand… not so tidy. Taehyung had sauce smeared across his pretty lips and lingering at the corners of his mouth. Jungkook— shit, somehow the rabbit managed to get cheese in his damn hair, let’s just say that.
You giggled at the puppy hybrid, thumbing a tiny spot of sauce off his chin, “I told you! They were definitely feeding you garbage pizza. This is the real shit, you’re eating with the big boys now, baby!” Taehyung’s tail began its helicopter blade wagging, an incredibly dog like ‘yip’ escaping his lips, his excitement rising right alongside yours.
“Hell yeah, baby!”
Throwing your head back, you laughed so hard that your stomach began to hurt. “Hey! Where’d you learn that kind of language, mister!” You cackled, smiling down at him in wild amusement.
His grin mimicked yours, ears perking, “you!”
And you’d been trying to keep your cursing in check, too. Perhaps you slipped up a few times during dinner…
“Ah, I’ve got to watch my tongue or by the end of next week you’ll be able to name a curse word for every letter in the alphabet,” You snickered, ruffling his hair affectionately.
“More! Want more,” Jungkook exclaimed, holding up his empty plate for emphasis.
“Kookie, it's all gone,” you trotted over to him, picking up a nearby napkin and beginning to clean his face. He pouted at the newfound information, obviously very disappointed. “Don’t get all frowny on me now, you messy son of a bi–bunny.”
“Nice save,” Taehyung snickered, and you shot him a playful glare before returning your attention to the deeply disheartened rabbit.
“Hey, but don’t worry. We’ll be getting pizza often. Very often,” because your ass can’t cook for shit, “and next time, I might even get you your own whole pizza, okay? That work for you?”
His eyes light up at the suggestion, pout dissolving into a content smile, “okay. Work for Kookie.”
“Fantastic,” you hummed, before tossing the tomato sauce soaked napkin into one of the empty boxes, “okay. I think that you need a bath. Napkins aren’t cutting it.”
Jungkook froze, eyes widening, then narrowing into sharp slits, “no bath.”
Your brows shot up at his sudden defiance. “Um, yes bath. You’re covered in pizza guts.”
“No. Bath.” He hissed, ears pressing back.
“Jungkook,” you said slowly, arms folded over your chest, “you are taking a bath.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“No.”
You stared at him hard for a moment, him staring back just as harshly. Then you lunged. You should’ve known a rabbit hybrid would be faster, because the next thing you know you’re getting a face full of chair. And that shit hurt.
“Fuck me!” You shrieked, cupping your throbbing nose.
“Y–Y/n, are you a–alright?” Jimin gasped, running over to you in tiny font and carefully helping you back onto your feet.
You glanced over to see Jungkook on the opposite side of the kitchen, looking over at your crumpled form with a piss all smug expression. A growl rose in your throat.
“I’m good, Jimin, don’t worry.” You offered Jimin a reassuring smile, only wincing slightly. No way in hell would you let the mutant bunny win. He was taking a bath if it goddamn killed you.
A determined glare found your face as you struck Jungkook with your stare, pushing up your sleeves. “You’re still taking a bath, Kookie.” You sneered, pointing a finger in his direction.
“Gotta catch Kookie first~,” he sang, excitement sparkling in those big eyes.
“Oh, I’ll catch you, alright.”
Little need be said, you did not catch him.
All of fifteen minutes later, you lay face down on the floor of your upstairs hallway, sweating so much it looked like you’d fallen in the pool, completely winded, and on the verge of passing out. You always seem to forget that running is definitely not your strong suit.
“Y/n?” You heard a meek voice chime from above you.
“Yeah?” You wheezed, not bothering to so much as open your eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fucking dandy,” You chuckled, finally forcing your eyes open. Jimin was squatted down in front of you, head tilted to the side as his large tail calmly swayed behind him.
“You don’t look dandy.”
Somehow, you managed a tired smile, “it’s called sarcasm, darling.”
Jimin flushed at the nickname, cupping his reddening cheeks in the palm of his hands as he let out a soft whining sound. So cute.
“That bunny is quick.” You groaned, rolling onto your back and letting your aching body melt into the floor, “where’s all that stamina come from, huh? He was going up and down the stairs like it was nothing. Up, down, up, down, up, down, like what the hell? Don’t his legs hurt after that? Well, I guess he does have pretty massive thighs—”
“Would you like some water, Y/n,” Jimin softly cut off your delusional rambling that was about to take a not so appropriate turn.
“I would love some water, Jimin, thank you.”
He giggled that sugary giggle of his as he stood up, “alright, I’ll get you some water. Don’t move.”
“Wasn’t planning on it.”
He laughed again, standing and trotting towards the steps, disappearing down them. He has a really pretty laugh.
Just as your eyes began to flutter shut again, a loud thump caught your attention, and then a shout.
“Y/n! Y/n I caught him! I caught him!”
“Can a girl not get a moment's peace in this house—” you cut off your incoherent mumbling abruptly, shooting upward. Caught him? He caught him? Holy shit! You leapt to your feet, frantically scrambling in the direction of the commotion. It wasn’t too difficult to find what room the shouts were coming from with all the noise they were making.
In your downstairs gaming room, you found Taehyung, his entire body wrapped around a flailing Jungkook, whom he’s somehow managed to pin to the floor.
“Tricked! Tae tricked Kookie!” The bunny screeched, betrayal shining in his dark eyes. You were trying so hard not to laugh. Taehyung looked absolutely ridiculous, Jungkook even more so as he tried to squirm out of the puppy’s vice like hold. But you knew you couldn’t allow them to continue like this, or else one of them might end up hurt. And that was something you definitely did not want to happen.
“Tae, let him go, hun.”
Taehyung’s eyes widened at your request, mouth opening to object, “but—”
“It’s alright, Tae. Trust me,” you shot him a sly wink as you murmured the last bit. He reluctantly obeyed, rolling off the bunny and scrambling behind you before he could retaliate. The moment he was freed, the bunny leapt to his feet, glaring harshly at the puppy cowering behind you. “Ah–ah–ah, eyes on me, Kookie. Tae didn’t do anything wrong, he was just trying to help me catch you.”
He huffed, lower lip jutting out.
“I have a proposition.”
His ears twitched, brows furrowing. “Prop… prop… prop…?”
“An idea,” you rephrased, noticing his struggle, “one that doesn’t involve running around the house like a couple of chickens who got their heads cut off. If you win, you don’t have to take a bath. I win, you bathe. That cool?”
He squinted his eyes at you suspiciously, “what idea?”
You smirked, eyes drifting to something behind him. You made your way over to the large flat screen television, opening up the cabinet to the right off it. Inside were hundreds of games. That’s an exaggeration, but you get the idea. Jungkook’s eyes bulged, pupils practically turning into hearts at the glorious sight. You pulled one out, holding it up for him to see.
“You race?”
It was Jungkook’s turn to smirk, “Kookie race.”
. . .
“Watch out for the banana peel! Oh my god the red shell! The red shell! Careful on the turn—”
“Taehyung!”
“Sorry.”
You were on the third and final race of Mario Kart. The deciding match. Each of you had won one round prior to that, making it an even game. It was tense. But Taehyung seemed to be more on edge than you and Jungkook combined, and he wasn’t even playing!
The finish line was in sight. It was neck in neck; Jungkook in first, you right on his heal in a close second.
There was absolutely no way in hell you were letting him beat you at your game. The game you’d been playing since you first learned how to use your thumbs. You absolutely demolished anyone you went up against. But Jungkook was good. Really good. He matched your skill level almost perfectly. He knew all the shortcuts, all the right turns to making, even how to drift flawlessly. And for the first time, you weren’t completely positive that’s you’d win. A thought terrifying enough to send chills racing down your spine. No. No, you were going to win. You had to. That bunny was going to bathe. You’d make sure of that.
The finish line was approaching rapidly. Your heart thundering against your ribcage, entire body trembling with the adrenaline coursing through it, a sheen of sweat resting on your upper lip. Your hands were aching for the effort, thumbs just about ready to fall off.
Beside you, Jungkook was just as tense, tall ears fully erect, body stiff and leaned forward as he pinned all his attention to the screen.
This is it. Time to pull out all the stops. You’re secret move that got you the win every time without fail. The boost and drift.
“Eat my dust, Kookie!” You shrieked, pressing down on the buttons just long enough to have your car shooting forward and crossing the finish line, earning you the first place slot. A triumphant laugh burst from your lips, and you jumped to your feet, pumping your fist into the air victoriously. You’d be lying to say your ass didn’t hurt from sitting on the hardwood floor that entire time, but the brilliance of your victory washed out any lingering ache. “Fuck yes! We have a winner folks! We have a winner!”
Taehyung and Jimin giggled from their seats on the couch behind you, clapping encouragingly as you shamelessly gloated.
Jungkook stared at the screen in shock, unable to process that he was seeing the number two on his half of the screen. Second place. Second place. It was mocking him.
Squatting down beside the stunned bunny, you placed a hand on his shoulder, “I won, Kook. You know what that means.”
He pouted, turning his head away from you stubbornly. “Cheated.”
You gaped at him. “Did not! I won fair and square and you know it! Come on, we had a deal. You can’t just go back on your word,” you frowned, offended by his blunt claim. You would never cheat. You didn’t need to. At least not in Mario Kart. Pure skill, baby.
Jungkook snuck a glance in your direction, and his ears dropped seeing the expression on your face. He quickly turned his gaze away, focusing intensely on the floor as he worried his lower lip between his teeth. He knew you didn’t cheat. He knew he lost. He hated it, but he knew you won fairly. Admitting it out loud was just a bit harder to do.
But the look in your eyes was enough to get him to put his pride aside.
“Kookie take bath.” He relented with a defeated sigh.
You smiled brightly, gently ruffling his hair, “thank you for keeping your word, Kookie. It means a lot to me.”
He flushed at the praise, quickly swatting your hand away with a pout, eliciting a giggle from your lips. You stood first, helping Jungkook to his feet as you turned to the two other hybrids.
“Okay boys. As soon as Kookie here finishes up his bath, we need to discuss sleeping arrangements, alright? It’s getting late and it’s been a hectic day for everyone so I think we could all use a good night's sleep, yeah? Don’t get into any trouble while I’m gone.”
They quickly nodded in agreement, bidding you soft farewells as you guided Jungkook to the upstairs bathroom. Of course, he donned a pout the entire way, obviously trying to make you feel bad by milking the blow of his loss.
Tugging him into the bathroom, you sat him down on the closed toilet seat, and began to explain the ins and outs of your bathroom. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, towel location, how to change the temperate, and even pointing out the bubble bath bottle in case he like that. He stared up at you blankly, blinking slowly.
“You got all that?” He nodded. “Any questions?” He shook his head. “Good, I’ll sit outside. Just give me a shout if you need any help.” With that, you proceeded to exit the bathroom, plopping down beside the door and pulling out your phone to kill the time. You heard the gush of water hitting the tub, and assumed he’d be fine on his own. Until—
“Y/n?” You hopped to your feet, leaning against the door.
“Yeah, Kook?” Silence. “Kookie? You okay in there?” Silence. “Jungkook?” A nearly inaudible murmur. “I’m sorry I didn’t understand that.”
“N–need… help…”
“Okay, I’m coming in,” you took his silence as an okay and slowly nudged the door open, “are you… covered?” He hummed quietly in confirmation and you let out a breath of relief, sticking your head inside.
He was submerged in the bath, the top of it was covered in a thick layer of white, shiny bubbles. He had his face turned away from you, and seemed to be fidgeting slightly.
“What’s wrong?” You asked carefully, gliding over to kneel next to the tub. He avoided your gaze, and you noticed how red his cheeks were. You were worried he might’ve made the bath too hot, but when you experimentally dipped your fingers in, it was the perfect temperature. “You can tell me, hun. What’s up?”
He bowed his head, splashing his hand against the water. “Can… can y/n wash… w–wash Kookie?”
Hah. Pardon?
“W–wash? You want me to wash you?” You reiterated, making sure you’d heard him correctly.
“Please…” he murmured quietly, and you watched his neck melt into a boiling red color that perfectly matched that adorning his face. He looked so humiliated, so vulnerable. It dawned on you that he might not know how to properly wash himself. At the shelter someone had helped with that sort of thing, so he might have never actually done it himself. Your heart swelled at the thought.
“Of course I’ll help,” you murmured softly, touched by the fact that he’d ask instead of struggling alone and saving himself the embarrassment, “in fact, I’ll do you one better. I’ll teach you how so next time you can do it all on your own, okay?”
He peered over at you shyly, a light smile twisting the corners of his lips upwards, “okay.”
“Perfect. We’ll start with shampoo then,” you chirped, reaching down to grab the white bottle of shampoo.
You learned that Jungkook wasn’t the best reader, something you probably should’ve guessed based on what Hoseok had told you. But it still made your heart clench to see him trying so hard to make out the letters on the bottles you present to him. His bath managed to turn into a reading lesson, as you explained to him in depth how to read the words shampoo and conditioner as well as their individual purposes. And soon enough, something seemed to click in that cute little brain of his.
“You’re a fast learner, Kookie!” You praised, grinning happily as he pointed out the word shampoo every time it appeared on the back of the bottle.
He beamed at the praise, sighing in content as you massaged the conditioner into his hair, being extra careful around the base of his ears. It was then that you realized how beautiful they were. The fur was sleek and healthy, shimmering faintly under the dull glow of your bathroom lights. Instinctively, your fingers reached for one, gently stroking the silky fur. His body jolted forwards, a loud gasp shooting from his lips. You snapped your hand away as he whipped around, staring at you in shock.
“D–D–DON’T touch!” He squeaked, his entire face a deep shade of pink, his chest heaving as he seemed genuinely flustered. There was terror in his dark eyes, the emotion read loud and clear.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, I didn’t even realize,” you blinked rapidly, clutching your hand against you chest like it’d been burned. You were horrified with yourself. You’d obviously crossed a boundary you weren’t meant to so much as think about. It was careless. “I’m so sorry, Kookie. I shouldn’t have touched your ears without permission.”
He stared at you a moment longer, breathing heavily as his hands gripped the edge of the tub so tightly that his knuckles paled. There was something in his eyes. Something dark. You couldn’t make out exactly what it was before he snapped himself out of him, shaking his head.
“It… okay.” He slowly turned back around, facing away from you. You weren’t sure what to do. Did he want you to keep washing him, or would it be better if you left all together? Your prolonged silence caught the bunny’s attention, and he softly uttered over his shoulder, “can keep wash Kookie.”
“A–are you sure?” You swallowed, needing the extra confirmation.
He nodded, “yes.”
The remainder of his bath was spent in silence. It wasn’t awkward persay. It was more like both your mind were weighed down from the previous upbeat mood. Even as you were running a washcloth soaked in your favorite face wash over his faintly red stained skin, he wouldn’t meet your gaze.
“Alright, I think you’ve got it from here. You can wash your body with this green soap and then dry off and meet us downstairs, alright? I put a new shirt and sweatpants next to the door outside, so you can put those on when you’re finished,” You hummed, standing and stretching from having sat for so long, back cracking loudly. He nodded silently, sinking lower in the tub so that his nose hovered just over the water and you took that as your que to exit.
You were disappointed with yourself. That could have been a beautiful bonding moment— and it had been! But then you had to go and screw it up. Like you always seem to do…
Taehyung and Jimin were playing with some of the toys you’d gotten in the living room when you came trudging down the steps. They must’ve noticed the heaviness in the air surrounding you, because their sweet giggling ceased rather abruptly and they jumped up to meet you halfway.
“Y/n, what’s wrong?” Taehyung asked with a soft frown. “Did Kookie hurt you?”
“Ah, no, of course not, Kookie didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t worry about it, sweetheart. I’m fine,” you reassured, reaching up to pet the top of his head, but freezing and redirecting your hand to land on his shoulder instead. Taehyung blinked, looking at your hand in confusion.
Without missing a beat, he grabbed your wrist and placed your hand on top of his head.
You couldn’t stop the grin that found your lips, one he happily returned as you combed your fingers through his dark locks. Jimin whimpered mournfully from his larger companion’s side, staring longingly at your other hand. “Oh you big baby,” you playfully cooed, immediately shifting to stroke the top of his head as well.
They both melted into your touch, Jimin chirping as Taehyung vocalized his happiness with high pitched whines. It was a rather ridiculous scene, but so utterly precious you couldn’t find it in you to stop. Not until you heard heavy footsteps coming from the stairs. He was dressed in new clothes, lingering droplets of water creating dark patches on the shoulders of the grey material of the oversized sweatshirt.
Jungkook paused, meeting your gaze. You offered him a light smile, but he only ducked his head and plodded to Taehyung’s side, eyes fluttering around the room. You’d be lying if you said that didn’t sting a bit. You’d hoped that you’d be able to brush off the incident, but apparently not. Maybe it’d be forgotten by the morning.
You cleared your throat, shaking yourself from your thoughts. There were more important things to address than a moment of discomfort.
“Alright, boys. Now that we’re all here, I have to tell you that we have a small dilemma.”
“A dilemma?!” Taehyung repeated, blinking at you with wide, concerned eyes. You nodded in confirmation, folding your arms across your chest before continuing.
“As of right now, I only have one bed for you guys. I’m pretty sure it’s more than big enough to fit the three of you, but I want to ask if any of you are uncomfortable sharing a bed? I know you all had your own back at the shelter, so it would definitely be a change.”
“I don’t mind! I love cuddling!” Taehyung chimed, unknowingly lifting a weight off your chest. You shifted your attention to the bunny hybrid, who seemed to be in deep thought, eyes squinted, lips puckered as he mulled it over.
Finally, he shrugged. “Fine with Kookie. Don’t mind.”
“M–me either. I’m okay with it,” Jimin quickly added, blushing as you smiled gratefully over at him.
“That’s a relief to hear. I promise that this won’t be permanent, just for a little while until I figure out a better sleeping situation, alright?” You breathed, clasping your hands in front of you, “let me show you guys to your room.”
The hybrids quickly scurried behind you as you guided them up the stairs and down the hall, before you were pushing open a door. They gasped simultaneously, eyes widening as they took in the sight before them. “T–this is our room?” Taehyung swung his astonished gaze to meet yours.
“Yeah… do you not like it?” You asked, unable to read whether their reaction was positive or negative.
“No! I love it!” Taehyung cheered, bolting into the bedroom and pouncing onto the bed. “It’s so big! This is probably the biggest bed I’ve ever seen in my entire existence!”
“It’s amazing,” Jimin grinned excitedly as he made his way into the bedroom, joining Taehyung on the King sized mattress.
Jungkook murmured his agreement, “very nice. Very big. Kookie approve.”
You smiled, watching as they oohed and awed over every little detail of the room, from the dresser to the windowsill seat to the light fixtures above their head. Their amazement made your chest feel light.
“Well, I’m glad that you like it. You guys can get things to decorate it and really make it your own when we go shopping,” a yawn followed your statement. You hadn’t realized just how tired you’d become. It was a pretty eventful day, if you do say so yourself. But a wonderful kind of eventful.
“I’m headed to bed if you guys don’t need anything else. But if you do happen to need something in the middle of the night, my room is right across the hall.” You turned to leave, but paused as Taehyung cleared his throat.
A warm flush was resting on his cheeks, the faintest of smiles on his lips as he stared at you with such sincerity that your skin prickled and your heart picked up, “speaking for all of us… Thank you, Y/n. For everything.”
Taking a slightly trembling breath, you plastered a smile across your face, biting the inside of your cheek, “Of course. Good night, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.”
“There are bed bugs?!”
“It’s just a saying Taehyung. There are no bed bugs.”
“Oh. Good night then! Sweet dreams!”
You shook your head in amusement, murmuring a final ‘goodnight’ before you stepped out of their room, gently shutting the door behind you. You plodded across the hall, slipping into your bedroom just as another yawn escaped you. Throwing yourself onto your bed, you groaned as you muscles instantly relaxed.
“Fuck, I missed you baby,” you muttered, tugging the sheets up to your chin as you nuzzled your head into the thick embrace of your favorite pillow. You know the one.
In no time you were dead asleep, snoring up a storm as your mind filled with fantasies of living on your own private island. But, this time you weren’t quite alone. Instead, you were accompanied by three beautifully misfit hybrids who seemed to fit right in. An island all alone in the middle of the island might’ve have gotten a tad bit lonely. You were glad they were there.
“Y-Y/n?”
Until one of them interrupted your blissful slumber that is.
“Yes? Huh? I’m awake. Who is it?” You fumbled, jolting upright as your heavy lids adjusted, squinting to try and make out the figure stood in the doorway. It was only dainty enough to belong to Jimin.
“It’s Jimin,” he identified himself.
As you suspected. You’re a genius even when half asleep.
Running a hand down your face in a feeble attempt to draw yourself further from the steel grip of sleep, you acknowledge him with a soft hum, “What’s up, beautiful?” You didn’t have to see him to know he was blushing.
“I–I… Jungkook accidentally kicked me out of bed and then he spread out and kinda took my spot a–and I was too scared to move him… s–so I was wondering if—” he faltered, fidgeting and lowering his head, “—if possibly… if it’s not too much of a nuisance… if I could—”
“Jimin, get over here.” You cut him off with a playful chuckle. He gently shut the door before stumbling over to you in the dark, tripping over various items you hadn’t taken the time to clean up. You weren’t expecting visitors.
The skunk hybrid faltered at the foot of your bed. “You really… don’t mind?”
“Not at all.”
That was all the encouragement he needed to climb onto the mattress, crawling up and plopping down beside you. But there was an awfully large space between the two of you, and it made a frown touch your face.
Sleepy y/n liked cuddles.
“Do you like to cuddle, Jiminie? Because, unless you’re opposed, I would really love to have a cuddle buddy right about now.”
You heard his breath falter. Then silence.
A discouraged sigh escaped you, and you rolled to your other side, facing away from him as you shut your eyes.
“I… I like cuddles.”
You flipped back over immediately, grinning widely as you parted your arms invitingly, making grabby hands, “then give me some love, sugar.”
The heat radiating off Jimin’s face was palpable as he shifted into your arms, allowing you to wrap yourself around him almost entirely, resting your chin just above his head. You could feel how quickly Jimin’s heart was beating, feel the faint trembling of his body against yours. But the way he nuzzled his burning face into your neck and coiled his arms shyly around your waist told you he wanted this just as much as you did. Small flicks of his ears tickled your under jaw, drawing the corners of your lips upwards.
You’d long forgotten the warmth of sharing your bed with another. The feeling of comfort that settled in you chest, the sense of belonging. It vanquished any loneliness that had lingered there in nights prior, Jimin taking the place of empty air. You loved it. You loved it so much.
It was then that you noticed something small and yellow squeezed between your chests. The chick stuffy Taehyung had given him. You bit your lip almost harshly enough to draw blood to keep down a squeal. How much more adorable could he get? Wrestling off the sudden desire to squeeze his cheeks and kiss all over his adorable little face, you drew slow, soothing circles against his back, listening to his breathing grow slower and heavier, until you were certain he was completely asleep.
“Good night, Jimin.” Pressing a tender kiss to the top of his head was the last thing you did that night before falling into the most blissful sleep you can recall ever having.
Shinsou turns off his and focuses his attention towards you as your head is resting on his shoulder. Shinsou tries his hardest not to ruin the moment so he obviously he stupidly asks " Y-you wanna...hold hands again? I'm getting cold over here".
You normally brush off Hitoshi's stupid flirting because he sucks at it but hearing that he wants your warmth....he need your warmth...Hitoshi needs you.
You and Hitoshi locks hands together both completely quiet but internally freaking out.
Shinsou's brain starts going into overload as he starts think about every romantic movie and think about how they would fuck up a situation like this "Oh no she's really close shit! SHIT DOES MY BREATH STINK?! I DON'T KNOW! BUT I DON'T WANT HER TO FIND OUT,DAMMIT HOLD YOUR BREATH!" Shinsou does just that but you see him oddly do this.
Then you start thinking,"He's holding his breath? Why...did he sniff me...DO I STINK OH GOD I HOPE I DON'T IM SORRY HITOSHI!!!".
The bus hits a speed bump to causing all the seats to jump and it cause the two dummy's to bump heads.
"OW! DAMMIT! Hey are you ok?" You both say in unison then there is a short pause before the both of you burst out laughing.
"We're both so stupid haha!".
"Nah were not stupid great minds think alike " Hitoshi snickers.
You lean in closer to Shinsou as you poke the bump he got on his forehead from crashing into you " OW! HEY!" "That's what you get".
Sometime passes and the bus finally reaches the home bus stop in front of your house. Hitoshi and you get off watching it leave. "Hey Y/n are you busy tomorrow?"
"Umm no actually I'm free why you wanna hang out?"
Hitoshi beams as he scratches the back of his head just then a creepy smile form's on his face " Oh that great! Denki invited me to go out bowling and I wanted to bring what bakugo would call an extra"
You playful punch Hitoshi in the arm " Hey! Don't call me an extra! Ohhhh I swear I'll go feral on Katskui!"
"Oh I know you will... you always do but before you go in I wanna ask are you really ok...?"
Once again you ignore his question he notices and sighs "Y/n i won't use my quirk to make you talk....i promise ...".
Y/n stops smiling as she turns her back on Shinsou walking to the door.
"H-hey did you hear me y/n come on talk to me what wrong?", " I'm really glad I got to meet you Hitoshi Shinso.....You're such an amazing guy and... I just-."
And with that the tears began to fall down your face you look back at Hitoshi to see he's completely shaken up bye your sudden rush of sadness.
" Everything you've done for me there no way words can describe how happy I've been being friends with you and how much you left a impact on me"
Shinsou stops her " what up with all this crazy talk y/n? why are you acting like one you walk through that door I won't see you again?"
You think it would be better then wasting away until you day in 9 days then maybe your heart wouldn't be hurting so much like it is now, hell this pain feels like it's hurts more than the pain the quirk will bring.
Hitoshi brings you into his arm embracing your body in hug. "I promise you that we will be together always and besides-...."
"We got all the time in the world"
Hearing that one line....it finally sinks in that y/n is gonna die...so she does the only thing she can.
You clench Hitoshi uniform as you bury your head in his shoulder and began to breakdown in Shinsou arms. "Y/n?! Hey hey don't cry it'll be ok"
You scream and beg Hitoshi not to leave " You can't leave please don't! I don't wanna lose you Shisou!". "Woah woah lose me? Y-you're not gonna lose me...let's go to my house and clean you up I don't want you parents to see you like this".
Hitoshi takes you to his house right across the street. He quickly opens the door and sits you on the couch "I'll be right back just stay here ok", you nod and Shinsou leaves.
"I don't wanna bring Hitoshi into this and get him all worked up because of me he does so much for me as it is...you know what I mean right?" Shinsou's just meows back at you.
"Of course you get it Kabuki...Hitoshi is always taking care of both of us" you say while petting Kabuki. "I guess liking Shinsou isn't the only thing we have in common huh...".
A few minutes go by and Hitoshi is sitting on the couch wiping your face "Hitoshi come on I know how to whip my own face!". " If you stop moving MAYBE me can get this done quicker!".
Shinsou sighs and lays back on the couch "There now you're all clean up, you're welcome". You lay ontop of Shinsou patting his chest "Looks like the day is saved thanks to pro hero Mind Freak~". He pushes your face smushing it with is hand.
" Ew I told you I'm not calling myself myself mind freak!"
" IT'S COOL!"
" IT'S SCARY! IM TO TRYING HELP PEOPLE NOT TO SCARE THEM OFF" "We'll I'm here and I'm not scared of out you!".
Hitoshi softly puts his hand on your cheek "what I said out there wasn't a lie, Y/N I'm here if you need me...every step of the way...."
You hold Hitoshi hand as your hearing starts to diminish and your body begins to fell light that you begin to wobble and sway back and forth.
"Yeah.....we got all the time in the world...."
Y/n suddenly fall sideways onto the floor lying there motions while Hitoshi eyes widen as he screams " Y/N!!!!"
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡💔 As the the first day has come to an end so has 1 of the many lives. And so far Y/n has lost her first life.....🥀
Pick me (yandere!Ghiaccio x reader)
Pairing - [Ghiaccio x reader] (stands? - no)
Words - 1489 (not proofread)
Warnings - general yandere-ness, swearing, (extremely) graphic violence/body horror (you’ve been warned 👀😗 I love horror, this is meant to be scary), dumb post name that definitely I hate myself for
Scenario - you go skating for a first date at a rink you frequent and it turns out that he’s a bit of a douche. A certain mouthy employee who has made a habit of observing you doesn’t like that.
When you overheard your tinder date throwing cheesy lines at someone else as you approached your meetup spot, you already had a pretty good idea of whether you’d be asking for a second date or not. Picking out the ideal partner wasn’t your forte, sure, but you couldn’t let that stop you in your pursuit of love- and it certainly wouldn’t stop you from enjoying the rink after you had already paid for your admission.
Actually getting on the ice seemed to be a far away goal though as he threw his arm around you and directed you to the food stand, chatting obnoxiously.
“Ah shit,” your date cursed, patting his jeans and jacket pockets. Oh boy. “I only brought enough to get in, and I’m starving could you-“
“What do you want?” You rolled your eyes walking up to the vendor. He smiled and playfully got you in a headlock. “I knew blowing off my plug for this date was a good idea. I met someone as kind as you, kid.”
Plug for what Exactly? You weren’t particularly interested in finding out.
Practically inhaling his food, he washed it down with a sip of your drink before scrunching his nose up and wiping his mouth. “What the hell was that?”
You raised an eyebrow. “Dude, it’s just coffee...”
“You drink that shit?” He remarked before pushing his shoulder into you and giving you a coy look, accompanied by a wink. “Don’t worry babe, hopefully my good taste will rub off on you.”
You deadpanned and let out a loud sigh as he laughed at his own statement, making him stop and guide your chin to look at his odd version of a puppy dog face. Nice, his fingers had sauce on them. “C’mon, baby, I was just joking around.”
He leaned in the rest of the way for a kiss and with dinner plate eyes you pushed him away. “What’s your problem?” You whispered sternly, not wanting to draw attention. “I don’t have a problem, I’m just trying to lighten the mood. You’re not making it easy.” His tone was mocking and louder than necessary, making you duck your head and blush.
“Look, I don’t think-“
“What the fuck?” Your date interrupted before chuckling maliciously and nudging you in the ribs, pointing to a man you presumed to be a maintenance worker hunched over a janitor cart, scowling at the two of you and mumbling. “Hey four eyes! Do I got something on my face?”
The man’s face turned a shade of red that could rival his bright cherry glasses and with widened eyes, he turned around began to walk away.
“Hey! I wasn’t done!”
Your face definitely mirrored the poor employees when your date hurled your half full coffee cup at him, making you bolt up from your seat and rush over to him. Supporting the trembling man now cradling his head and clearly failing breathing exercises, you turned to the culprit with distress cutting through your words. “Why are you being like this?”
“You’re on that losers side? He was the one who was-“
Ignoring him, you turned to them man, squatting to look up at his face. Worried that he was crying, as he didn’t look particularly strong willed, you were very surprised to see him quite literally shaking with rage. “Sir are you okay, did you get hurt.”
Snapping his wild eyes on you, he began to slow his breaths as he straightened himself up, attempting to gain composure. Standing up yourself, you noticed you were the same height as him, if not taller.
“I’m fine.” He breathed out curtly as the colour of his face began to look more like an actual human skin tone. Your thoughts were cut short as a rough hand clasped onto your shoulder, grabbing your attention. “I don’t know why you suggested this place, it sucks. Lets get out of here.”
“Wait.” A quiet, cold voice cut in making your date stop before rolling his eyes and opening his dumb mouth. “Don’t you know when to stop? I thought glasses meant you were smart.”
A vein popped in the employees neck as he silently pointed to the lanyard around his neck that read ‘MAINTENANCE AND SECURITY’ in bold letters before pulling the radio on his belt to his mouth, mumbling something and looking back up. “You’re coming with me for disrupting the public until police get here.”
“Whatever, it’s not like this was even a big deal. Kind of an overkill reaction, but clearly you don’t have enough power in your life and need to compensate.” Your date scoffed, complying with the employee.
Maybe he did have one brain cell after all.
The man shifted his tense gaze to you making you freeze up, already thinking about how far away the commute to the next closest rink was. You should have known better than to bring a stranger here, god forbid you actually have a good date or once in your life.
“You.”
His strained tone made you wince.
“Next time you come here... tell them Ghiaccio said you’re allowed a session for free and to radio me if that’s an issue... you clearly didn’t get to use this skate time.” Despite it’s harsh sounding delivery, the offer he extended to you made you blush, perhaps that was just his default tone.
“Thank you, you’re too kind.” You smiled at him genuinely before flipping like a coin and shooting a glare to your date. “I’m going home. Lose my number, asshole.”
Making your exit, you thought about the employee- Ghiaccio. ‘Even his name fit him’ you laughed to yourself. Although a little quick-tempered and bad with kind words, he really seemed decent. Maybe your luck in love was changing for the better.
-
“Weren’t you bringing me to security?” The leech asked, looking around at the locker rooms and various storage closets littering the hallway.
“Shortcut.” Ghiaccio bit out, pushing him through a door. “In here.”
“Through the second rink? Is this where the team plays?-” His insufferable voice silenced with a grunt as the employee smashed a shovel used to maintain the ice into the back of his skull and got to work.
When he came to, the first thing he noticed was how cold the ice felt- next, how very naked his body was. Attempting to get up, he realized ice picks were keeping him from moving his hands in the way that they pierced straight through the middle of them, a massive pool of blood now staining the ice below. Finally, he noticed the man in the standard blue janitorial coveralls looming above him with heavy work gloves on and the all too familiar red glasses dawning his face.
“W-what do you want from me, man?” He sobbed out, the numbing of ice and adrenaline fading away with every second.
This seemed to set Ghiaccio’s fuse. “You say the dumbest shit! Why the fuck would I want anything from you? do you think I’m the beggar in this situation? do I look like I need something? On top of that, it’s been bugging me the whole time I was setting up, Your insults don’t even make sense.” He yelled out, his words bouncing off the rink glass.
“Setting u-up?...” the worm whimpered pathetically as he was forced to listen to the madman’s critique of him.
“-at world does ‘four eyes’ even make sense? I clearly have two eyes! Two eyes! Two! Are you so dumb you can’t even count?” He ranted, kicking the mans head to the side, his face lulling back and forth with the movements pitifully.
“I’m gonna shut that idiotic mouth for good.” The employee spoke, squatting down with a vicious smile as his gloved fingers snatched his victims tongue and pulled it out, chin involuntarily clashing into the sub-zero surface.
The parasite shook his head as he garbled out cries for help, hot, fat tears effectively marrying his skin to the ice.
His scream ripped into the cool air as the sharp pick was forced through his wet muscle, Ghiaccio dusting himself off as he moved to tighten the coarse rope around his bare ankles.
“At least they’ve smartened up and started bringing the obstacles to me. I’m so fucking tired of having to track you scumbags down in my free time.” His voice rose as he climbed onto the zamboni, starting it up. “I’m so fucking sick of guys like you getting to spend time with them! It doesn’t make sense! No fucking sense! It should be me! Fuck!”
After smashing his fists into the wheel of the ice resurfacer, he remembered the breathing exercises he read about when he decided to reign in his anger as not to scare you away when he got too heated. Heaving in and out, he found his center and sat up straight, slowly accelerating the machine forward with its precious cargo in tow.
chatzy // crackship power couple
DATE: Friday, October 24, 2020 CHARACTERS: Jack and Parker ABOUT: Jack tries on his Halloween costume for Parker.
Dressing up like a monster had lost all its appeal for someone who lived in constant fear of being one year-round. Jack looked at himself in the mirror, clad in a blue jumpsuit and a grey industrial harness. He was dressed like an anime character but still felt monstrous seeing his scarred, red eye glaring back at him from the glass. "Ugh. I don't know," he called out through the bathroom door. "I'm scared to show you."
Parker, admittedly, thought that Halloween was kind of dumb. However, he thought the same thing about animals, and was a fan of a small dog because of Jack. So if this was something his boyfriend enjoyed, he was going to be as enthusiastic as needed. “Shouldn’t I be the one who’s scared?” He joked. “Of, like, your costume?”
Jack snorted. "I'm not dressed scary." He glanced at the mirror again. "Or... I guess it could be. Ugh." He sighed. Jack had never let Parker see him without his eye patch before. The scar across his eye was a disgusting reminder of the pain he had inflicted on someone else and he could barely stand to look at it himself. But after months of dating Parker, Jack had slowly warmed to the idea of coming out of the closet, so to speak, about his face.
The deciding factor was seeing the character Todoroki for the first time. Contrary to Jack's deep insecurity about his facial scar, this character was somehow considered a heartthrob despite the red splotch across his eye and his cold, reclusive personality. A perfect costume, Jack thought.
Jack took a deep breath and turned the knob of the bathroom door. "Ta-da," he muttered weakly as he stepped out into the living room, his red scar exposed bare on his face. "It's..." Jack shrugged, gesturing to his eye. "It's part of the costume."
Parker sat on the edge of the couch expectantly, and raised his eyebrows as Jack walked out. It took him a moment to place the character, but once he realized that it was something that Jack had shown him. "Oh! Yeah, yeah." He clapped and pointed at him. "You're that guy! From the anime show. Yeah." After a moment, he added an enthusiastic, "It looks good!" He stood, crossing the room towards him. "I think you look very cute."
Jack was anticipating some sort of comment or wince in reaction to his eye. When one didn't come, Jack was almost disappointed. "Yeah? Is it, like..." He shrugged. "I don't know. Like... You know?"
Parker blinked. "Cool?" He raised his eyebrows. "I think so." He pointed at Jack's chest. "I recognized him, so I think you did a good job."
"Uh." Jack exhaled a laugh. The combination of nerves and being flattered did something really strange to his heartbeat. "Uh, I mean more like... I don't know, do you think it's too much to just, like... Have my face out?" Jack looked away at a far wall. "I don't know, I thought it was, like, accurate to the character but like, I don't know if people will get it. It might just be, like... Gross. I don't know."
Parker furrowed his brow as he listened to Jack speak, then reached out to take his shoulders. "Hey, what? It's not gross at all. I like your face being out. You know what's gross? Having makeup on for like, however many hours and having it slide off your face later that night."
"Yeah, I guess," Jack agreed half-heartedly. He shifted awkwardly from foot to foot, starting to feel self-conscious about his costume. "I mean, like... Do you think people will get it?"
Parker dropped his hands and tilted his head at Jack as he considered the question, then nodded. "I think so, yeah. If they watch the show, which, I'm pretty sure a lot of people do, right? At least someone will get it." He paused. "I wasn't talking about me, but that is at least one person." He nodded sagely.
Jack snickered as he wrapped his arms around Parker's waist. He dropped his head forward to rest on his boyfriend's and groaned. "Ugh. I hate personal growth."
Parker laughed and swayed back and forth. "What do you mean?"
"I don't know, just like..." Jack shrugged. "It's so awkward. Like, one of two things is gonna happen if I don't wear the eyepatch. One, someone is gonna see my face and be like, 'ew', or two, someone like Brent is gonna see my face and be like, 'wow look at you, little buddy'. It's like... Terrible either way."
Parker couldn't help but laugh at Jack's comment about Brent. "Oh my God, that totally sounds like him. I'll tell Mace to kick his ass if he says anything." He shrugged, leaning back slightly to look at Jack once more. "I don't think anyone is gonna say ew or anything though. Like, literally everyone here is covered in scars, it's like... I dunno, there's your trainer dude who is legit covered in them and has one leg and nobody says anything beside that he's like, mega ripped and hot." He shrugged. "Like, you're probably the person that thinks about it the most, since you're the one who looks at it the most."
"I guess," Jack mumbled in response. He hadn't ever really thought about it that way. Jack knew that everyone else had battle scars but his just felt... Different. "Yeah, I guess," he repeated. "So... You think my trainer is mega ripped and hot?"
Parker smiled slightly, bobbing his head as Jack agreed with him, no matter how begrudgingly. He laughed at the question. "I mean, that's probably like his credentials for the job, right?" He moved a hand to rest on Jack's waist. "Not really my type though."
"Ugh." Jack squeezed Parker's waist. A smile grew on his face between his reddening cheeks. "I really like you."
"Shit, I hope so!" Parker laughed, leaning forward to rest his head against Jack's again. "I like you too," he said genuinely, not laughing anymore, but smiling. "Like, all of you." He looked up at him. "Was I supposed to dress up too?"
"Um, yeah," Jack responded, as if it should have been obvious. "And you have to go as something sexy so we can, like... Power couple it," he insisted. "Brent and Macey are way too confident, we need to give them a run for their money."
Parker laughed and shook his head. "Shit. I told Macey I wouldn't dress up as Shaggy for her. She's gonna kill me." He shrugged. "Okay, what's a sexy costume? Am I supposed to be like, one of those nurses?"
Jack snorted. "Um... You could do, like... Sexy Colonel Sanders?"
"Ew!" Parker laughed and shoved Jack's chest. "I'll go as a super hot chef, and you can change your costume to a rat."
"Oh my fucking gods!" Jack clutched his stomach and started wheezing with laughter. "Stop! No! Not that again!"
Parker laughed harder and turned his head away from Jack, shaking his head, annoyed at himself for making the joke. "Okay, yeah, we'll ignore the fact that I said that and I'll think of a hot costume."
"Sexy Linguine," Jack considered, still shaking with laughter. "Ugh. I hate that you'd probably pull it off."
Parker shook his head again. "Don't worry, I won't even try it." He ran a hand through his hair. "I’ll do, um... I don't know. Is it weird to go as a soccer player?"
Jack snorted. "That's so jock. But I guess it's not weird."
Parker rolled his eyes exaggeratedly, still smiling. “Anime guy and jock. Is that not the vibe we’re going for?”
"We sound like a crackship," Jack pointed out with a chuckle. "I mean, I guess we kind of are."
Parker nodded as if he knew what that meant. “Huh. Yeah.”
It was a bad, bad day. Withdrawals were awful.
Sitting in the kitchen, Vanya was digging her nails into her arms hard enough to leave marks while she willed her body to stop shaking. She wasn’t even cold- the logical part of her brain told her that her nervous system was probably just overreacting without something to keep it calm.
Worse than the shakes were the ‘brain zaps’. The zaps were unsettling and disorienting and she could never predict when the next one would come. It was almost like trying to wait out hiccups, and it made it impossible to focus on anything- and she’d tried. She only got through half of a Beethoven piece, the zaps causing sudden stops and unexpectedly wrong notes before she gave up in a fit of frustration. Her powers made sheet music fly violently around the room as she made a loud, agitated noise.
Now, not sure she wanted to be alone with her powers and anger, but not really sure what she wanted at all- she sat in the kitchen with a now-cold mug of tea in front of her. Her nails dragged down her arms, leaving red scores.
A lack of sleep and her list of symptoms for the day left her agitated and manic, and she was trying hard not to spiral considering how her powers got when she was too emotional. She didn’t want to take the Academy down a second time, didn’t want to hurt anyone- except. Well, she kind of did. Not in a murderous way, she just- understood Diego and Luther’s constant need to punch things to cope a lot better than she used to.
Vanya didn’t know how much more of this she could take, but she didn’t know how to relieve it. She felt like a pot starting to boil over and she didn’t know how to let any of the steam loose. Old coping mechanisms from older therapists floated in and out of her mind, but she found they were more aggravating than helpful. ‘Identify your feelings. Go to your happy place. Meditate. Breathe’.
Fuck off , her brain responded to the suggestions.
Too stuck in her own thoughts, she didn’t notice her sibling until it was too late.
“Hey, Van.” Klaus greeted, giving her a nod and a smile as he moved into the kitchen, a long skirt trailing after him. A flash of irritation washed over her- if it was Allison or Five that would be one thing, but while she didn’t have much to hold against Klaus, he was so.. Loud. She didn’t think she could handle it gracefully today.
He proved her point as he started opening and shutting cabinets, digging through the fridge, setting a plate down on the counter with a clank. He even mumbled to himself - or to someone else. She and the rest of the Hargreeves were still trying to figure out what was a chatty ghost and what was Klaus being Klaus. Vanya didn’t know how long she sat there, her nails digger harder and harder into her skin as she breathed in through her nose and out through her mouth and tried to stay calm. Eventually, though, she had to crack .
“Klaus, would you just shut up ?” She demanded as she twisted in her chair to face him, the cup in front of her giving an ominous rattle and spilling most of her tea over the edge. He immediately froze in response, his expression falling. He quickly plastered on another, but she definitely saw the brief moment of hurt before he put on another easygoing mask.
“Shit.” Vanya said. Shame washed over her at the outburst. “I’m so sorry.” She blurted, running her fingers through her hair and clenching her fists at her scalp, “That was unfair, I’m sorry, I’m- the withdrawals today are just-"
“Oh.” Klaus said simply, the realization dawning on his face, “It’s okay, Vanya.”
“No, it’s not, that was shitty and we both know it-”
“Hey, you would not believe the things I’ve said to Ben on my pricklier days.” Klaus said. He was back to rummaging through a cupboard. This time, however, he made sure to close the cabinets gently and not to clink the dishes around as he moved. “And vice versa.” He snorted, holding up a rag, “It’s cute that you guys still think he’s an innocent little bookworm. He knows like three languages and tells me I’m making bad choices in all of them .”
He artfully stepped over to the table, his skirt swishing around his legs while he picked her cup up and set the rag down to start soaking up the tea mess. Then, “I’ll be right back.” He said with a considerate frown, and she nodded numbly before he disappeared down the hall.
The hopeless, angry part of her suggested he probably wasn’t coming back and just wanted to get away from her craziness. But it was Klaus, and if she was crazy.. To prove the point, he soon blazed back into the room with a black bundle in his arms.
“Put this on.” He suggested, setting it down on the table instead of handing it to her directly. “It’ll help.”
Irritation scratched beneath her skin, not wanting to be told what to do, but she reached forward to grab it regardless to try and keep the peace. Unrolling it, she realized it was a comfortably worn-down hoodie.
“Is.. is this Ben’s?” She asked, confused.
“No- well, maybe, actually.” Klaus frowned thoughtfully, “No, wait, you’re right, I definitely stole this from Ben.”
Surprise, surprise . Vanya huffed out a small laugh at his antics.
Then she carefully shrugged the hoodie on- it was a size or two too big, and made of heavy material that weighed on her shoulders. It smelled like a bizarre mix of something flowery and something that was almost definitely weed, but it was something she associated with Klaus. And that small fact was somehow comforting to her, just a little. So she sank back into her chair and into the fabric, the hood bunching up around her neck.
“It helps sometimes, to just have something heavy? It’s kind of grounding.” Klaus said, rocking back and forth on his heels and his toes with a strange expression, his movement betraying his nerves.
“I think you’re right.” Vanya said softly, starting to connect the dots. Even if she wasn’t feeling many more emotions than ‘fuck this’ or ‘fuck you’, she could recognize that Klaus was the resident authority on dealing with withdrawal. He was clean- hell, cleaner than she was, but she distantly remembered the days after the not-apocalypse where he hid himself away, snapped at them, or cried in strange places.
“Do you think a hug would help?” Klaus interrupted her thoughts like he was shoving the words out of his mouth as quickly as he could.
Vanya took a deep breath and slowly let it out through her nose, genuinely considering it. “I think.. That if someone touched me right now.. I’d throw them into the wall.” She said carefully, watching Klaus’ expression.
To her bizarre satisfaction, he nodded like that was a perfectly reasonable answer. “Sounds about right.” He replied absently, his eyes wandering the room before focusing in on her again. Ghosts, or Klaus’ attention span? Who knew.
“You’ve just gotta wait it out, Van.” He sighed, smiling regretfully, “And try not to burn too many bridges along the way.”
She tapped her fingers on the table, focusing on the sound and the vibration- before stopping herself. No going down the ‘catastrophic powers’ rabbit hole, not while she felt like.. this .
“I’m just…” Her hands clenched into fists, wondering just how much he’d get it , “Klaus, I’m- I’m so angry . And even after everything that happened.. I’m not used to it. I don’t know what to do with it.”
Was it a warning? Maybe. Or maybe she just wanted to be heard while someone was there to listen. She expected her brother to shrink away or find some convenient excuse to vanish, a spiteful voice in her head reminding her of how she and her unstable powers could just be too much for her siblings some days. But Klaus only sighed and leaned his hip against the table, staring down at her.
“That’s okay.” He said, “Is your brain like.. screaming at you and lashing out at everything? That’s not you, that’s just..” He made a face. “Chemistry and brain stuff. You can’t help it right now.”
She didn’t think anything could soothe the beast clawing in her chest, but Klaus’ words helped. Maybe only a little, but she’d take what she could get.
“Klaus,” She asked suddenly, as soon as the question popped up in her mind. She twitched, her brain.. well, zapping. “Can I- can I ask you something?”
His face lit up. “Anytime!” Klaus agreed.
She clenched her fists on the tabletop. “Are you ever-“ Her nails bit into her palms as she tried to consider how to phrase it, how to get the point across. “Did you ever feel..” Scared. “Concerned? I- I know you were on drugs for.. for a really long time.” She worried her lip, not sure just how candid they could be about the subject, “So when you were stopping.. was it hard, not knowing what.. what you were supposed to be like after?”
He looked confused but kindly concerned, brow furrowed as he tried to follow along. “You mean like..” He hummed, “You- I was on drugs so long, so was it scary not knowing who I was going to be without the high?”
She breathed out a deep sigh, nodding. “Yeah. Exactly that, yeah.”
“Well..” Klaus sucked in a breath through his teeth, cocking his head to the side, “My timelines were always a little rushed. But.. yeah? C’mon, it was practically baked - get it, baked - into my personality. ‘ Klaus the drug addict ’-“ He snorted unexpectedly, “It was almost like my brand. If I wasn’t him, who was I supposed to be?”
She only nodded. He seemed lost in thought, blinked, then he let out a soft ‘oh’ when he realized the conversational ball was still in his court.
“Soo.. yeah. Yeah, Van, it was fucking scary. Once or twice I think that’s why I fell off the wagon, honestly- back on the streets, I mean.” He rambled, “It was too big and scary, looking into a future where I had to be Klaus The Adult and act ‘normal’ and ‘fix’ myself.” Klaus made a face at the very thought. “It’s hard, getting kicked out of rehab and then knowing it’s all up to you to fix your shit. Even with Ben around.”
Her heart sank. “Oh.” She said. That certainly didn’t bode well for her. But it wasn’t like she could fall off the wagon, could she? After the apocalypse they had her taking her full dose and slowly weaned her off of it, and now she was finally out of pills and it was leaving her system. But she couldn’t deny that life was easier on the pills, as much as she hated feeling ordinary. Could it be enough, just knowing she had these powers under the surface? That she counted as a member of the Academy in her own strange way?
It must’ve been written all over her face. “But!” A panicked Klaus near-shouted, causing her to flinch away and glare with the strength of a thousand suns. He grinned sheepishly, adjusting his volume.  “Sorry. Sorry. I was just gonna say- I think it never stuck because I didn’t have anyone back then. I mean, Ben, but I’d been tuning out that shithead for years. And he tried, but he couldn’t do much to support me.
“Now, though-“ Klaus gestured with his hands, a knowing smile on his face, “I had… I’ve got people . And with hi- them, by my side and willing to help, that makes the future a lot less scary.” He made a soft noise. “Rehab was always hounding me about having a support system to stay sober- guess they knew something after all.”
“Oh.” She repeated.
“Is that…” He worried his lip with his teeth, “Is that helpful? I’m not usually the pep talk guy.”
“I…” She took a deep breath and let it out, slowly unclenching her fists so that she could hide her hands in the oversized hoodie. “I think.. I think it did, actually.” She could still feel the anger bubbling beneath the surface of her skin. She still felt like she was a hair trigger away from something , and she didn’t want to find out what it was.
But the reminder that she wasn’t alone helped. Even if she didn’t trust certain siblings as much as others.. She wasn’t alone in all this. Especially with Klaus here.
Vanya looked at her brother in a strange new light. He hadn’t run away or made her feel like shit, not even when she flung her tea all over the table with her mind. So.. so no, Vanya wasn’t alone. Vanya had support.
Maybe she’d make it through.
“Thanks, Klaus.” She said softly.
“Like I said,” He replied, grabbing the rag and soaking up the rest of the mess before tossing it in the direction of the sink. It hit a cabinet and slid to the floor, but the thought was there. “Anytime, Van.” A pause. "Are you sure you don't want that hug?"
She scoffed out a small laugh. "Klaus, I love you, but go away." Vanya said mildly, the edge of her mouth quirking up in a small smile.
"Yeah," Klaus agreed, "Fair enough."
“Non.”
“Oui.”
“Non.”
“Oui.”
“Non!”
Bucky halted in the doorway, crossing his arms as he listened to the argument. He couldn’t stop the small smile that threatened to split his face when he saw Shuri. Her head was bouncing back and forth, as if attempting to keep up with a tennis match.
And the players? Those Lebeau girls.
Calmly, he cleared his throat, attempting to let them know he was there. But the women remained oblivious, batting their single-word arguments back and forth. How long had they been going at it? “What’s going on?”
Geneva jolted, barely able to keep herself from jumping a foot in the air. Electricity rushed over her hair as she huffed. “Need t’put a damn bell on ya, chere,” she muttered, knowing very well his super-soldier hearing had noticed her now racing heart.
He chuckled, coming up beside her and squeezing her hips. “What’s got you two arguing?” Missing the look Geneva sent Marie’s way, he only noticed the way the younger Cajun smirked. “Marie?”
“Don’t y’ – “
“Gen’s too scared t’go to a haunted house.”
Bucky’s face scrunched as Shuri hid her amusement behind a mug. Geneva was scared of haunted houses? Scratch that. Geneva was scared? Bucky was used to her being jumpy. It came with her powers. Everything, including her nerves, was always dialed up to twenty. “That true, Sparky,” he asked, tilting his head as she tried hiding behind her hair.
“Non.” She looked ready to slap the glittering amusement off Marie’s face. “I just…” She shrugged. “I hate haunted houses. Why would I pay someone t’scare moi?”
Bucky smiled, hiding it in her hair. He knew better than to call out the blatant lie. She was scared and it was adorable. “What if we all went together?”
She hesitated, biting the inside of her cheek. There really was no way of getting out of this. Shoulders slumped, she turned and kissed his cheek. “Ca va.”
Marie’s nose scrunched. “Y’deux are gross.”
Amused, Bucky ignored her and squeezed Geneva’s waist. “Don’t worry,” he whispered in her ear. “I’ll make it up to you.”
--
“Fuck!”
“Shit!”
“Goddamn it!”
Four pairs of feet were rushing for the exit. Each one was as determined as the last to get out. Bucky’s metal arm slammed into the door. Tumbling over one another, the group collapsed into one of the many piles of leaves.
“I told y’all! I fuckin’ told y’all!” Geneva sat up first, many a leaf flying out of her hair. Though some were still stuck, determined to blend into the massive curls. “Mas non, y’all didn’t wanna believe moi.”
Bucky laughed as Shuri threw a handful of leaves at them. He sat up, tucking Geneva’s hair behind her ear. He kissed her temple. “Fine. You’re right. There are some genuinely scary haunted houses.”
Marie snorted, rolling over and resting her head on Shuri’s thigh. “What can we do that’s wuss-friendly?”
Shuri looked over her shoulder. “There’s a corn maze.”
Geneva laughed, relaxing against Bucky’s chest as he kissed the top of her head. “Sounds good t’moi.”
Bucky nodded. “I’m in.”
Marie grinned. “Let’s just give the ol’ man a moment ‘fore he has a stroke."
“Hey!” Bucky grabbed a handful of leaves, dropping them directly on her face.
“What? Just voicin’ concern!”
Geneva laughed, kissing Bucky’s cheek. “Don’t worry, I’ll make it up t’ya.”
