Have officially played as all four Batkids. Impressions include:

Jason is slow as heck. Look, I love you my dude, but your sprint is slow.

Barbra needs a longer cape. The designers knew exactly what they were doing and she crouches WAY too often. Knock it off, Babs

Dick is the most fun to flip around on buildings with.

Tim is a sneaky, sneaky boy and I ambushed SO many people who I could have sworn had seen me.

Jason is very ranged (as he should be) but it is difficult to adjust to because everyone else is melee. Not a bad thing, just different. Also he is a tank, which is a weird combo (ranged tank)

Barbra was like a combo of Tim and Dick, which isn't horrible, but was definitely not what I was expecting. She is stealthily(ish) and can hit VERY hard.

Dick is very quick on the dodges which I really liked because I am a hit then dodge person.

On a similar note, Jason can barely dodge. It's more of a short slide or step aside and I found myself getting hit more often then not.

Cosmetics are a weird mix. Some look great on some of them and other look good only on Jason. Tim had the best overall, in my opinion, with Barbra being second.

I played with Tim in the photomode and he and Gotham looked amazing. PS the photomode is insane and I had way too much fun with it, especially as someone who just took a college photography class.

The map is BIG

It is more fun, to zip around everywhere then ride the bike. Now this could be my Spider-Man PS5 talking but it's FUN, in my humble opinion.

Long story short, I am maining as Tim/Robin.

"Great!" Danny says, clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention. The dinner table falls silent as everyone looks towards him. It's a full house today and, honestly, Danny's a little nervous. "I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today."

"It's dinnertime. In our house." Duke mutters, while doing a very bad job of concealing his yawn. He holds his fork poised over the braised beef, but, just like everyone else, still looks towards Danny before tucking in. It's intriguing enough to wait.

"Yeah, no one misses Alfie's dinner." Dick says, with a brilliant smile that Danny can't help but return.

"Precisely! What better time to talk to you all than when you're all actually here!"

"Wait, I thought you came round to work on our English essays?" Tim asks, blinking owlishly.

"I'm afraid I've lured you here under false pretences, Tim."

"This is where I live."

"I would still really appreciate help on that essay though, I mean, what the hell is Hamlet even about? I just don't get that old time-y language, like 'Hark! A ghost hath killed me!' - absolute rubbish, what does that even mean?"

"The ghost never kills anyone in Hamlet, he's there to tell Hamlet that he was murdered. Have you actually read it?"

"No, but it sounds like you have. Tim, I want this guy to help me with my essay instead. I know for a fact that you haven't read Hamlet, either."

"So? We don't need Jason, I've read the Sparknotes."

"Hi Jason, I'm Danny, pleasure to meet you, summarise Hamlet in three sentences or less."

"Am I auditioning to help you write your essays? I can't believe you’ve gone through your whole school life without reading it, it’s good!"

"Hamlet, along with a number of other classics, was banned in our house because it portrayed ghosts as intelligent and sympathetic beings rather than evil, animalistic beasts. I didn’t even get to see The Muppet's Christmas Carol until last year with Tim! It was surprisingly good, and I hate Christmas because everyone always argued and it sucked. "Boys, please." Bruce interrupts, looking to the world as if he wants to hang his head in his hands. "Danny, you were about to say something?"

Nobody says a word. Nobody even blinks, all as shocked as the other, watching open-mouthed as Danny pulls his laptop out from beside his chair. Bruce can definitely feel a headache coming on.

"Before you say anything, I've prepared a 69 slide PowerPoint presentation on why you, Bruce Wayne, should adopt me, Danny Last-Name-Pending. Please save your questions, comments, and verdict until the end, thank you."

Reading Red Robin is like-

fandom really played like a long game of telephone with this run because almost every popular trope that fanon likes to explore is like taken out of context from red robin

for example, back when i read fanon i would eat up the "Damian cut Tim's line" fics where it's like sad boy Tim and mean Damian and Dick finding out is always such an important plot line in these

but then in the actual book:

Damian cutting his line is a minor moment and immediately followed by them fighting physically with Tim winning

And the only reason Damian even did that is that Tim was still mistrusting him

and Dick knows about the whole thing-he helped solve the problem

there is also the fanon storyline of like Tim feeling super betrayed because no one believed him until they actually got Bruce back.

which is just. not what happened. at all?

Dick is always willing to believe him

and when Tim actually explains himself Dick listens and trusts him

Then Tim's characterization in fanon is also just like flanderised version of rr!Tim

Fanon is basically someone seeing a vaguely worded list of plot points in red robin and then making shit up from there and it so funny to me

The entire tower scene is very brutal, but also very funny. Jason really thought he was doing something wearing that get-up 🤨.

Tim had every right to make fun of him (give me less "oh woe is me" Tim and more "you sucked as Robin") like damn some of those lines gotta stung. Did not blame Jason for beating him up after those comments cause Tim was asking for it ngl 😭.

In celebration of my new writing sideblog, I decided to share a snippet of the expanded version of my first prompt fill. Original can be found here. Brief synopsis: Tim and Danny became online friends when they were both neglected and lonely ten/eleven-year-olds. Before Robin and before Phantom. They have been fully open with each other since they first met and that doesn't change, even after it probably should. (This segment is a chat fic.)

He waved his hand at her. “Yeah! Everything is fine! My friend and I were just killed by something I didn’t even know could be dangerous.”

“Don’t play too long. You still have homework.”

“I know! I’ll be good.”

The links and pictures started coming through even faster. The first was a picture of a family of acrobats and one of the links was to the story about how the parents died in an accident while performing.

The next link was about Bruce Wayne adopting a child followed by one only a few months later discussing Batman’s new side kick, Robin. Then a picture of the Graysons’ son in his circus costume next to a picture of the first Robin. Which were entirely too similar.

“Holy…” whispered Danny. But the links and images were still coming.

Robin stopped being spotted when Dick Grayson moved out. And not much later Nightwing appeared. And then there was a new Robin and a new adoption. And then Jason Todd-Wayne died and Robin disappeared.

Danny stared at the chat box as Secrets, as Tim signed out. What. The. Hell.

“You all right there, Danny?” Jazz was looking at him from their kitchen table and Danny quickly closed out of the chatroom. No one could be allowed to see that information.

“Yeah, course. Just talking with my online friend Secrets.” Whose name he now knew. “He had to go, though. So I guess I’ll start my homework.”

“Were you two playing that game you like?”

He couldn’t tell the truth, so he decided to lie. “Yeah. We’re hoping to beat this boss so we can get a rune stone that’ll let us craft this super awesome weapon! Then we might stand a chance in the arena.”

Jazz smiled at him. “I’m sure you two’ll get it. What’s this arena?”

Danny described the game on autopilot as pulled out his backpack and books. Holy hell, he knew Batman’s identity.

I know it has been remarked on before. But jonathan jarchivist sims has the most AGGRESSIVE voice shifts ever in the world. Like, statement voice vs regular voice, obviously, but also when he’s talking to Tim and Sasha? Unless they’re correcting him about something, his voice just gets so SOFT. And casual!! Bc they are his friends and he is comfy with them! That’s why he asked for them to be transferred with him!! But if they have a Critique of any kind, he goes Full Professional “humph hmm I am In Charge” and it is very funny.

And like… when he’s stuck in document storage with martin and he just asks in the sOFTEST and SMOLEST voice “ah… martin. I feel like at this point the Waynes kinda have to be unhinged chaos children at this point. Like, if they start having a sane streak then the news will just start fiending for Wayne drama to the point of harassing random strangers.

Like one day Tim pays for a lady's coffee cause she complimented his shirt or some shit, and she immediately gets mobbed and asked if she's his secret girlfriend or some shit(bonus points if she seems slightly too old or young).

So shit like this all comes to a head when a younger family friend/acquaintance gets fucking bombarded by the press at the front fucking door.

It could be anyone like Wally or Roy, but my personal favorite is just some rando kid of an acquaintance of Bruce who needs a place to crash while at uni or something(I do have a backstory for someone like this in my writing drafts but idk if ill post it). TLDR: Random Child at Wayne Manor.

One day to help Alfred out they head to the mailbox to grab the mail, or maybe they are about to get in their car, all that matters is that they are within reach. And once that happens they immediately drown in the plethora of questions from the press.

There so much talking that they can't hear a word and upon hearing the question "Is any of this true", they say yes to make them happy and immediately run back inside because they probably don't have press training.

This leads to huge headlines about the "New Wayne Kid!?!" and Bruce and his PR team have a heart attack. The kids are split between worry for the rando and unmatched amusement at the situation. Eventually, it gets straightened out after a press conference with Bruce, rando, and their current parental figures or lawyer if there is none.

Basically, it's now mandated that the Batfam has to have at least one crazy nondetrimental headline a month just to make sure the press is well-fed.
