“One thing is needful: that a human being should attain satisfaction with himself, whether it be by means of this or that poetry or art; only then is a human being at all tolerable to behold. Whoever is dissatisfied with himself is continually ready for revenge, and we others will be his victims.”
A short comp of my dive footage from a shark dive with Stuart's Cove in the Bahamas. These Caribbean reef sharks are immensely strong, and this vortex of them was literally pushing me back like a strong wind. This is prime ecotourism - sharks are extremely misunderstood, and this is a great way of introducing people to their true nature. I'm always conflicted when sharks are brought in with food incentive, but the reality is that each shark only receives a small amount of food, ensuring that they will still go out and fill their ecological niche.
Isla San Pedro Martir is a marine biosphere reserve, and one of the remotest rocks in the Sea of Cortez. It’s also the home of a large and curious colony of Sea Labradors (whoever called them sea lions was a long way off the truth).
When the dive boat rolls in for the day, it’s like the carnival came to town for the sea lions. Something new to do! After the first dive, they stayed gathered on the surface waiting for us to get back in. And like all puppies, they want to put everything new in their mouths!
This scuba diving chemist realized that sunscreen left an oil slick in the water, so she made a sunscreen that’s safe for both the person wearing it and the ocean
