My first Fandom was Marvel. I was a homophobic because that is how my parents raised me and I was 12. And I literally didn't read any of the first that had anything to do with LGTB
Then the Maze runner. I hated Newtmas
Then teen wolf. I was chiller about the lgtb stuff then.
Bam! Realized I liked Malia and there goes the homophobic in me.
Then stranger Things. I liked Robin so much
Then the vampire diaries, Then the originals and I liked Davina. Still do.
Now I'm in supernatural and I'm shipping two dudes.
Great job at raising a bisexual TV shows.
Sorry mom and dad for becoming what you feared most.
Hi LGTB+ community!!!

Why I love one-sided radiostatic
Before I start this little rant I must disclose that I’m aroace (so please know that this isn’t me trying to erase his orientation and present asexually as a problem, this is me trying to explore these complex and flawed characters) and so naturally I love the representation of alastor also being aroace so maybe me shipping radiostatic is a little hypocritical of me but I can’t help but love the story and tragic character exploration behind it.
Personally I like to believe that Alastor GENUINELY loved Vox, just not in the way he wanted. (They had some kind of queer platonic relationship but Vox wanted more and Al felt uncomfortable) And I think it killed Alastor to hurt his closest friend so much when he turned him down, I’ve been through something similar with an old friend I used to have. I know what’s it like so maybe I’m projecting onto Al but ehhhh.
It’s easy to just paint alastor and a evil psychopathic serial killer, a cannibal, and sadist, who loves torturing and tormenting people, don’t get me wrong, he is all those things but don’t forget he’s also human, he still has emotions no matter how much he represses them for the sake of his pride, reputation and self preservation. I could totally see him struggling to understand why’s he’s different and just brushing it off, after all, it’s never been an issue before now. He never had many close friends, nobody he’d ever be interested in pursuing. And now the person he loves the most wants him and he cant bring himself to want him back no matter how much he wants too.
I like the idea that Alastor wants to want him so much but he just can’t and it absolutely destroys him. He feels guilty and ashamed that he cant reciprocate Voxs feeling towards him (remember he’s from the 1930s, I doubt he knows what the LGTB is, let alone asexually so he’s probably under the impression that’s he’s broken in some regard. He probably never gave romantic and sex much thought, assuming that he would start feeling something eventually but nothing ever happened). While Vox just cant understand why he doesn’t like him back and keeps trying and it creates an uncomfortable situation for both of them.
I think radiostatic can be so tragic, they both love each other but in different ways and it tears them apart and they lose their closest friend due to it. Which ends up with them both bitter, raw and angry. Both blaming each other outwardly (Vox hating that Alastor rejected him while Alastor is upset that Vox went and caught feelings, complicating their perfectly platonic relationship) but internally hating themselves (Vox thinks he did something wrong to scare alastor away while Alastor hates that he couldn’t feel the same way).
I know Alastor is a very prideful person but I think behind closed doors his incredibly sentimental, after all, he’s pretty much a snapshot of the 1930s and he doesn’t seem to happy about change. So I could just imagine him up at night staring at the ceiling struggling with what he could do, whether or not, he should just lie to keep Vox happy and enter a relationship He does not want to be in so he can avoid losing his best friend (but also risk leading him on); or he turns him down and is honest with himself, not forcing himself into a relationship he doesn’t want but irreversibly hurting Vox in the process, and also risking losing Vox forever.
This could also create an interesting situation where Alastor agrees to date Vox and really tries to love him, hoping that maybe he’ll start feeling something eventually or at least get used to it. Of course this doesn’t really work and just creates resentment and pent-up emotions. Due to lying to Vox about wanting him and digging himself into this hole and the longer he stays the harder it is to leave without hurting Vox, this could lead to a messy breakup when Al just cant take it anymore and leaves.
I think “never love an anchor” and “tongue and teeth” are such perfect songs to encapsulate this kind of situation, the guilt and remorse but also the inevitability and hopelessness of it, the knowledge that there ISNT a right answer, no fairytale ending, this isn’t something to be overcome only accepted, and no matter what is done someone gets hurt severely and the only question is who and by how much.
I want to see a Alastor and Vox confrontation where we see how upset they are and how they’re equally heartbroken. Al for the first time shows actual vulnerability as he’s expressing his self loathing and guilt towards his choices but even so he stands by them and tries to defend them. He hates that he did what he did but there wasn’t another option for him and he didnt know what to do.
They both struggle with their emotions but also their pride and respective personas, not wanting to put aside their pride and admit their own shortcomings and guilt, and be genuinely honest and vulnerable with each other. They want to comfort the other but they’re just at a point where they don’t know if they could, if it would make it worse. they both still love each so so so much (in different ways) but it’s all wrapped up in fear, resentment, guilt and heartbreak which complicates things.
Ngl the best outcome is these two going to therapy, probably Charlie, and actually learn how to communicate.

I don't know if you've written about it already, and if so you can just redirect me if you'd like, but there's obviously a lot of gay undertones to Naruto and Sasuke's relationship, and all the suggestive illustrations. How much of it do you think was consciously intentional by Kishimoto?
I'm sorry but what "clear undertones" are you referring to? Why does the friendship between two males have to be represented in a particular (usually Westernized) way so that it's not confused with romantic interest? It's prototyping homosexual romantic relationships so that they are labeled within a standard that the reader identifies them with.
It's perfectly fine to ship SNS if that's the desire of those who consume the manga, but to justify that choice on the premise that "Kishimoto planned it because there are clear indications of what I consider a homosexual romantic relationship to be" is dangerous (encapsulating homosexual relationships inside one specific dynamic diminishes the relevance of romantic LGTB+ bonds that do not develop on the same premise), and fetishizes same-gender relationships.
Kishimoto wrote similarly premised relationships throughout the manga, highlighting the relevance of having a "rivalry" between two people within shinobi culture, in that sense, Sasuke and Naruto are no different from other characters.
At the same time, this idea of a "romance clearly planned by the author" usually also hides the shipper's ideology that romantic love is intrinsically superior to any other kind, nullifying the relevance of other bonds that do not fall into this category. Sasuke is constantly relying on his love for his family to carry on throughout the manga, yet that bond is diminished by many SNS fans in order to give more relevance to his bond with Naruto. His friendship with the main character is also of incredible importance, yet somehow Sasuke considering Naruto his best friend isn't as relevant as him seeing him as a romantic partner, as that kind of bond is, to them, superior.
There is a huge market for queer products to enjoy within Japanese media and that is a much better place to explore such dynamics, as they are specifically designed to address such a demand. Seeking queer representation within products aimed at a largely cis-male, heteronormative audience encapsulates LGBT+ relationships under toxic and/or heteronormative codes and behaviors by stripping them of their self-identity and fetishizing their interactions in the process (here).
Furthermore, I've seen people questioning Kishimoto's own sexuality because "he's clearly a closeted gay as he wrote SNS" which destroys their whole stance as "LGTB+ supporters" because not only did they decide to publicly question the sexuality and "out" an author based on his fictional work, but also decided to lock same-gender relationships into a single dynamism, where the idea of "romance" is encapsulated in a largely antagonistic relationship with obsessive undertones. We call that "toxic" when it's a heterosexual relationship, so why wouldn't it be for a homosexual couple?
What exactly is different about that dynamic that allows an LGBT+ couple to explore the kind of bond that we consider toxic and unbalanced within a heterosexual relationship? Usually, many of these issues fall back on an internalized misogyny where, because women are usually inferior both physically and mentally to men, they cannot develop this kind of union in the same way that men can. The relationship remains equally toxic and dangerous for both parties, but because they now don't find a concrete visualization of this imbalance (because, again, they perceive women as inherently inferior to men), they do not regard it in this way.
As I've said, shipping SNS it's alright, I personally can't see any romantic dynamic to get behind in the manga (which is, again, a personal preference of mine as I don't think Kishimoto cared much for those types of bonds), finding queer subtext in media is a common practice and was born out of the need for representation of a minority within a highly repressive society; but to see it as the only valid reading of a product and justify the lack of canonization of the couple under the premise of "social homophobia" within a community that the shipper usually does not know anything about (such as Japan) is a dangerous and senseless practice. Even more so considering the well-known and mainstream Japanese Yaoi market that exists and could use more support.
I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude to you in any manner, but your ask allowed me to explore a difficult and important topic that I tried to address very carefully because I think that people got completely desensitized with and, in their attempt to become a "supporter", they fetishized LGTB+ relationships.

spop fans: " I hate Scorpia so much, she invades Catra's personal space even if Catra told her many times that she doesn't like hugs or to be touched "
Me on my mind because i'm too scare to reply ( srs ) : Catra literally invade Adora's personal space and did it in a worse way, are this people okay or do they need help ?
no 'cause srs, friend, everytime i saw this i really wanna say something but i'm scare spop fans cancel me for it also idk how people can hate Scorpia for invade Catra's personal space when she did the same to Adora but worse ( maybe worse than Mother Gothel in tangled ). I mean if you are gonna hate Scorpia for doing that at least hate Catra too for it. The truth friend is that it's comfimerd that C//A shippers are blind. Also i don't hate Scorpia she's my second fav character and i hate so much that people dislike her only because she's too friendly ( like why hate the nice/friendly/sunshine character but not the toxic, abusive, gaslighte catgirl ? also i don't understand how the abuse is normalized like something goood, if the series showed that the abuse is wrong making Adora realize that Catra have 4 seasons tried to kill her and her friends, was a war criminal, have torture/gaslight/manipulated her and tries to go to therapy or change and then in s5 make glimmadora canon then it would okay ig ? because it shows to the kids to be careful with the abuse or that if a friend of their is having an abusive relationship that they help them to go out of it but NO! it shows the contrary saying that if you date your sister and abuse her for years that would save the unniverse and it's very disrespectful for the LGTB comunity and for people that have adoptive sisters, people just like it because it's a lesbian ship but shera looks like more a homophobic series when the abuse is normalize and i hate but really hate when they compare it to arcane or other series that are good because their ship for example caitvi/ bubbline/ lumity did it so much better because the creator of those series took their time to develop to make the ship healthy but Nate what he did is just rush everything in the last moment and make the ship looks forzed and bad )
Thanks for the ask! And exactly! Their is so much hypocrisy, if you want to hate Scropia for that fine, (I love scropia but I'm saying its a fair reason), but hate Catra for it too, when Catra does it its way more invaise and not done with good intentions

Probably the biggest weakness of the Wilbow's chosen format is that it effectively means that everything he writes will remain at the rough draft stage forever. And rough drafts are, by definition, rough. They're meant to be imperfect; you're supposed come back and refine them later. "Write drunk; edit sober", as Earnest Hemingway was fond of saying.
If Wildbow had a conventional writing process, he would just finish up a rough draft of the story and go "Huh, such-and-such doesn't seem to quite work the way I want it to", and then go back and rewrite the parts in question so they worked better.
For a particularly topical example, the way Wildbow writes the Forsworn in Pale makes them too unsympathetic, which in turn makes some of the themes he seems to be going for not work quite as well as they could have. And I maintain that a lot of the problems with LGTB representation in Ward would have been, not fixed, but rendered a lot less serious, if he had just made Victoria bi. Which he barely would have had to change anything to do. But the limitations of the web serial format means that that will never happen.
And so it is uniquely frustrating, as a fan, to see these glaring yet easily fixable problems in otherwise outstanding stories, and knowing that they will never be fixed. And, as a fan, there's not really any thing that can be done except write fan fic about it. And so it's doubly frustrating to me how large parts of the fandom culture surrounding Wildbow's stories doesn't really seem to care about engaging with the themes and ideas of the source material. As far as I can tell, Wildbow fanfic writers seem to care about cool powers and their ships becoming canon, and that's all.

Cole, did you read about what Posey said of Teen wolf lgtb representation? Is je good in the head? Does he remember saying Stetek, a ship that it wasn't canon disgusting and people watch the show for the wrong reason?
Posey just says what he thinks will make Jeff Davis happy. But anybody who watched the show, especially from the beginning, knows that there wasn't good queer rep. In fact, the show had multiple series regulars and none of them were queer. Not even Stiles after his bisexuality was teased to audiences for years.
