Hi! I'd like some help IDing my new roommate
📍 Mexico City
Your new roommate looks like a recluse in the genus Loxosceles, possibly Loxosceles tenochtitlan given the location and assuming there are no lookalikes in your area. The eyes would confirm it as they have 6 instead of 8 that are grouped in pairs. It does appear to have the signature violin on its head, but there are other species that have similar-looking markings and it's easier to tell from directly above. Male Kukulcania look very similar but I don't see the giant pedipalps I'd expect on one of those.
If I've got the ID right, I'd exercise caution and put it outside just in case - they are not aggressive but can bite if trapped in clothing/against skin accidentally.

she would've been the perfect Black Widow villain (for the movie)
you're telling me, you're making a Natasha movie without including her biggest hater?

tocatling and dusclimb
tocatling (tocatl, nahuatl for spider)
based on Loxosceles tenochtitlan, or the Tenochtitlan recluse, recluse spiders donr make complex webs like other spiders, they are ambush predators and use their webs to move around instead.
in mexica mythology spiders where seen as one of the animals that represented mictlan (the underworld) and Mictlantecuhtli (lord of the dead), whos also known as Tzontémoc (the one who hangs upside down) this in reference to him being the "black sun" which rises in the land of the dead after the normal sun goes down in our world
[Mictlantecuhtli] [spiders in mexican mythology, warning: will download a pdf of a magazine article]

Drowning in the dark
Some nights I don't want to talk
I can feel it better when we lie to ourselves
You don't feel at all
Don't hope
We can make it out
Talk slow
We can take it now
Slip away
There's nothing left to keep us here
