Ok why do you think Rhys is a witch?
So this goes hand in hand with the Rhys is part Valg theory. I always theorized about Rhys being part witch but when I heard this quote from Asterin on tiktok I was sure. Not 100% because not everything fits but look:
Asterin: "In the Wastes they made machines to break us apart. The fools never realized that all they needed to do to torture our kind, to make us beg, was to chain us. Keep us tied to the earth."
Rhys: "So they chained me up between two trees, beating me when they felt like it, trying to get me to tell them where the Night Court forces were, using my warriors— their deaths and pain— to break me. Only I didn’t break,” he said roughly, “and they were too dumb to know that I was an Illyrian, and all they had to do to get me to yield would have been to try to cut off my wings."
Both the tog witches and Rhys are breakable if you take away their freedom, keeping them tied to the earth. Both are meant to be in the sky
Then there is this part in acowar:
ACOWAR: Nesta drifted toward the desk, the maps atop it. “What is the difference,”she asked none of us in particular, “between a faerie and a witch?”
“Witches amass power beyond their natural reserve,” Mor answered with sudden seriousness.
(They continue to say that witches use spells and objects which Rhys obviously doesn't but except for that (also about that, Rhys's powers are used to fix the cauldron so that could be an object))
Rhys's powers: Rhysand has an extreme amount of power, that exceeds the amount of any of the seven high lords. He is the most powerful Fae in the history of Prythian,
Feyre about Rhys at the High Lords meeting: Brethren, and yet not. Tamlin was a High Lord, as powerful as any of them. Except for the one at my side. Rhys was as different from them as humans were to Fae. They forgot it, sometimes— how deep that well of power went. What manner of power Rhys bore. But as Rhysand ripped away Tamlin’s ability to speak, they remembered.
Throne of Glass Witches: Witches are a species of witch created by the mating of Valg and Fae (That's where the Rhys is part valg theory comes into play)
Thanks for asking!

Lets talk about the 4 foot nothing famous jewel hoarding biatch Amren.
Well if you did not know yet i do not like Amren. Mainly because she can be the biatch everybody thinks nesta is and gets away with it or in other words does not get treated how nesta was. Although there was times when Amren.....i cant say it....OK when Amren ate. LIKE IM TALKING SHE READ MY MIND.
Shes my second least favorite but here are small scenes where i lowkey loved her:
Acosf chapter 64 pg 656: Azriel asked,´´You made a bargain to die together?´´ ´´Fools,´´ Amren hissed ´´Romantic, idealistic fools´´ A few lines later..... Amren massaged her temples again. ´´We can discuss the idiocy of this bargain later´´ Real amren. REAL! Like feyre girl dont glare like you dont know how stupid you are like i know you cant read but common sense! (a joke) Like do they not realise that even after Nyx is born if one dies they birth die and nyx will become parentless and crowned the high lord of the night court. Then for the rest of his life he would have to except the fact that when his mother was pregnant WITH HIM,his parents decided that their love was far more important than the small child with a life ahead. Listen feyre i get that you cant live without Rhysand. But girly pops being a mother carry´s a responsibility. When you figured out you are pregnant THAT cell in your body is your TOP priority. That cell over the world. Even is rhys died by some tragic way feyre, you cant just dip! Neither can you rhysand YOU LITTLE MONKEYS.
Acosf chapter 29 pg 311: Azriel stiffened, an outright sign of temper from him as he said quietly, ´´There is an Innate darkness to the Dread Trove that Elain should not be exposed too´´ A few seconds later..... She threw a nod toward Azriel. ´´Including Elain, who is more than capable of defending herself from against the darkness of the trove,if she chooses to. Don´t underestimate her´´
THANKYOU AMREN! Not to mention when cass said ´´but nesta should´ LIKE ATEEE but this would be a very long post if i talked about all the times cassian ate. Anyways amren is very right here only regarding elain bc she was sh!t talking about my wife (Nesta) so shes not compleatly right. Although im grateful someone said it. Lets note the fact when she said if she chooses to. Dont underestimate her´´ Sarah for sure added this to tell us how Azriels protectiveness of Elain goes. Not in the good way babe. I mentioned this and someone replied to me, StiLL AzRIel DId NoT FORbiD ElAin FRom DoING iT. WHY DOES THAT MATTER?
This man quite literally got mad about the idea of approaching elain with the REQUEST of helping. It isnt him saying no no its super dangerous this is Azriel basically saying we should not suggest this to her at all. That isnt care or protectiveness. ITS SPEAKING FOR SOMEONE AS IF THEY DONT HAVE A VOICE TO DO IT THEMSELVES. Not to mention Elain wanted to! Also lets talk about the fact how Elain called out nesta on belittling her for wanting a small life but restraining her for looking for bigger. WHICH IS SO REALL GO ELAINNN. Although she said that to Nesta BECAUSE Nesta said absoloutly not to the idea of elain trying to help on her on free will. Now just imagine what Elain would say if she knew what azriel thinks of her.
There is also another part where i liked amren but it was in acowar. It was when feyre was saying something about Elain (probably doubting her) and amren said that she sounded like tamlin. JAJAJAJAJAJ And then mor was threatning her like girl shut your stupid mouth. ANYWAYSS if Amren had been the one to say sorry to nesta i would love her but naurrr SJM hates me.

BEGGING you to write a Tamlin x Lucien fic about them fooling around
Ok I’m definitely adding it to the list 👀
I’m thinking they get into a heated discussion about everything that’s happened between them, the downfall of Spring, blaming each other, confessions of hurt feelings, confessions of love…
Just a heated passionate fuck.
‘You dare question my love for you, Tamlin?’
‘I’ll show you just how damn much you mean to me.’
EEEEP IM EXCITED 🙈🙈

Nitpicking ACOWAR Ch 6 +7
This post includes the chapter I've had problems with, Chapter 7. Enjoy (I didn't). This is probably longer than my previous ones though.
Chapter 6
-The keys to the estate’s gate go missing. Clearly it’s another part of Feyre’s nonsensical schemes. Also why do Fae need keys when they have magic? Were keys a thing in the 1st book?
-Feyre did it when Tamlin was fuming about what happened last night.
-The Hybern royals (is it just the weird twins? It’s not stated if they’re the only royals around) are upset that they have to wait to see the 2nd hole in the magic wall. Why do they need to see all of the holes? What does this accomplish? What’s the point of this?
-Jurian and “his hateful mouth.” Why are we targeting him? I know he works for Hybern now (even though it doesn’t make sense) but what exactly has he done to earn this discourse? I guess because SJM decided he parallels Tamlin now for some insane reason so that she could say that Feyre and Tamlin are never going to happen.
-Tamlin and Lucien had a talk off-screen because Feyre noticed that Lucien is now keeping his distance.
-Feyre is still playing her “game” and considers blaming it on Jurian. SJM apparently decided that she’s going to keep information from the reader and have Feyre not admit that she stole the keys for some asinine reason. What’s the point of fooling the reader when it’s clearly Feyre doing all the schemes anyway?
-”...  carefully avoiding acknowledging me, as if I was indeed the blinding sun that had been stolen from her.” That doesn’t make sense. I don’t understand how avoiding someone has to do with the blinding sun.
-Why does SJM not put question marks on a question but a period instead? It looks like she’s trying to turn the question into a statement but there's no reason for it.
-Ianthe is nervous around the Hybern royals now because of the rumors that Feyre established earlier. This reads more like high school drama than anything. I don’t even know why Ianthe wanted to join Hybern in the first place, her motivations make no sense. She’s just a plot device.
-Ianthe wants to speak to Tamlin alone in front of everyone. Feyre thinks this is a power play for some reason?
-Feyre speaks up to get Ianthe to speak in front of them anyway.
-This is stupid.
-Tamlin wants Ianthe to speak.
-”... My acolytes discovered that the land around my temple is … dying.” I wish this was true.
-”Jurian rolled his eyes and went back to his bacon.” I find this both hilarious and stupid.
-“It is a blight upon the land. Grass, root, bud —all of it, shriveled up and sickly. It reeks of the naga.” It has to do with the naga? That’s disappointing, I was hoping it was the consequence of what happened from Calanmai.
-Apparently Feyre planned this in such a way for everyone to think Ianthe is crazy for this so that they don’t see the naga attack happening soon.
-Feyre gaslights herself into thinking Ianthe is planning the naga attack, even though it is clearly Feyre! Is Feyre just trying to get in her “role” by lying to herself and that’s why we have this nonsense?
-All of the previous schemes at Ianthe’s expense was apparently culminating to this moment. How does everything else make everyone ignore Ianthe’s warning?
-Feyre gloats inside her head.
-Surveying the other hole in the wall for some reason.
-Ianthe suggests Tamlin to go???
-Mentions Ianthe having a headache? Feyre mentions not getting enough sleep? Am I supposed to guess that Feyre can give people headaches with her powers? I don’t think she needs to use powers for that.
-Feyre doesn’t want Tamlin to go but since this isn’t apart of her inner monologue I assume this is some elaborate scheme again.
-”Lucien seemed inclined to sink into his seat and disappear forever.” So do I, Lucien. So do I.
-Feyre’s been shielding everyone’s mind from the weird twins. I don’t know what the point of this is but ok.
-Ianthe insists that Tamlin go with them. I don’t know why she does.
-Feyre attempts to get the upper-hand in this conversation. This is boring me honestly.
-The weird twins get curious when the Night Court gets brought up.
-I forgot to make note of Ianthe wearing a jewel on her head, I don’t know why it keeps getting mentioned in the text though.
-Ianthe brings up Rhys’ unnamed family members’ wings that Spring has.
-Feyre has a weird reaction to this.
-Feyre then thinks this is to get a rise out of her.
-Tamlin said he burned the wings a long time ago. I’m a little curious about this whole thing.
-After all of that Tamlin gives a look to Lucien. It’s about the stupid jealousy thing again.
-They go back to the wall again.
-”...ever the lady keen to be waited on.” Since when?
-Jurian apparently is ok talking to Fae enough to talk about their training. I thought he hated Fae?
-The twins don’t like meat sandwiches?
-Feyre and Lucien have a conversation about Tamlin and Hybern and the bargains.
-Apparently Tamlin was so frantic he killed some of his own sentries
-Lucien was the one that told Tamlin it was a good idea to ally with Hybern to get Feyre back, after Lucien wasn’t able to bring back Feyre in the 2nd book.
-Lucien says they allied with Hybern so they didn’t have to be at war with everyone else, and everything would rethink crossing with Spring.
-A question turned-statement but with a comma this time.
-Lucien avoids saying something to Feyre, she notices.
-Lucien still hates Hybern, duh.
-Next morning Jurian catches that Feyre and Lucien shared a tent last night.
-Feyre and Brannagh have a conversation about Autumn Court “males” and what it's like having sex with them.
-Feyre acts weird about this and doesn’t try to think about Elain being with Lucien with this information.
-The Children of the Blessed are here now. I think Jurian pulled out his sword during this?
Chapter 7
-The weird twins look at the Children of the Blessed like they’re breakfast. I still don’t understand what Fae are in this world and how they treat humans. This makes it seem like they’re vampires?
-Jurian pointing his sword at the Children of the Blessed even though they’re humans?
-”...Lucien’s cruel beauty.” What? Why is the word cruel used here? Is he just supposed to be ridiculously beautiful that it’s cruel?
-”... too-white teeth.” I hate this description. How can something be too-white?
-Jurian finally realizes they’re human and snaps at them.
-Random human girl is described with “her honey-gold skin flushed” I’m just noting this to keep in mind when SJM uses gold to describe someone’s skin.
-For some reason Jurian gets angry at Lucien when the humans talk about being tributes?
-The humans are younger than Feyre. Lucien refers to them as children too. I thought the children part in Children of the Blessed was metaphorical?
-The weird twins leer at the humans. I don’t understand what’s up with them.
-Feyre scares the humans away.
-“Too hard. The young man flinched a bit.” Make up your mind, did Feyre use a lot of power or not?
-“So soft—defenseless.” The fuck? What is even wrong with you Feyre?
-The weird twins are still described like they’re vampires or something. I don’t understand.
-Apparently when Feyre used her mind powers to scare the humans away she was able to see some of their lives?
-One of the humans is poor and has an abusive father, something about that bothers me. Why is the one human that’s poor has a backstory of abuse? And the one man apparently is the one that sells himself on the street. The third human is rich but doesn’t seem to have it as hard as the other two, just trying to avoid an arranged marriage.
-One of the humans is described as the leader for some reason? It’s the rich one isn’t it?
-The way things are framed in this book is giving me a headache. I still don’t understand what the Fae and human dynamics are.
-I’m literally putting my hands up in confusion. The weird twins are aware of Feyre using mind powers but don’t do anything about it? I know about suspension of disbelief but this is ridiculous. Why is Feyre getting away with so much?
-”To return here only when the war was over…” Why should the humans return at all?
-Jurian thanks Feyre. Why is he working for Hybern exactly?
-Feyre denies what she did. I’m so confused.
-”I’d used up my allotted tolerance for the day.” Is this the excuse of why the weird twins don’t do anything to Feyre? I don’t get it.
-Apparently Feyre gets headaches when she uses too much of her mind powers.
-Feyre explains the Children of the Blessed to Jurian.
-Jurian is confused why the humans would willingly go to the Fae and to be honest I don’t get it either.
-Jurian explains that he has unfinished business and that’s why he works for Hybern, that still doesn’t make sense to me. I know it has to do with Miryam, but… why?
-Miryam told Jurian to seduce Clythia to get information from her about Hybern.
-Jurian wants revenge against Miryam for some reason, I guess because she left him for Drakon. He calls out Feyre for seeking revenge too. If Jurian of all people sees it why doesn’t everyone else notice?
-”Months of working with Rhys…” Months? I thought she was only with Rhys for like two months or whatever ridiculous low number it was? Feyre doesn’t have that much practice at manipulation.
-”... they pretend he’s a sadistic murderer.” That is literally what Rhys is, what? He has killed and tortured people, are we seriously pretending he’s not done that?
-”Rhys sacrificed his legion in the process, got all of them captured and tortured afterward. Yet everyone insists Rhysand is soulless, wicked. But the male I knew was the most decent of them all. Better than that prick-prince. You don’t lose that quality, no matter the centuries, and Rhys was too smart to do anything but have the vilification of his character be a calculated move.” What the fuck did I just read?
-Let me try to break this down. Rhys sacrificed an untold amount of lives to save one woman and this apparently makes him a good person? And he is somehow still smart doing that boneheaded move?
-”The most powerful High Lord in the world…” Can I say I hate how this is used to describe Rhys all the time?
- “Perhaps that’s because Rhysand has not lost you at all. But rather unleashed you upon us.” Feyre hasn’t even been Fae for very long, how is she on par with Rhys? She’s only trained for a few weeks, she can’t be that skilled already. When she was human she was only a mediocre hunter at best, how does that translate into being powerful now?
-”I had never heard that story, but it seemed so like my mate…” That he’s an idiot and doesn’t know how to save people without sacrificing many lives for no reason? Why couldn’t he just put together a small group instead to sneak into the fort to save Miryam? Or even hired mercenaries instead?
-[“Hybern will kill all of you,” was all Jurian replied.] That’s how the conversation ends? What does that have to do with the previous conversation?
-”Jurian wasn’t wrong.” What?
-I still don’t get why Fae needs weapons when they have magic.
-“Lucien slid from the tent, limbs loose and ready to shift into a defensive position.” Why doesn’t he just start out in a defensive position instead?
-”... but I’d seen him and Tamlin in the practice ring.” When? Off page?
-”... devouring the details of my surroundings as if I were a starving man at a feast.” I know this makes sense but it’s still weird to me. Because, like, this is where Feyre’s thoughts go to in this moment since it’s told from her perspective, it’s messy.
-”Jurian was crouched before the fire, stirring the embers back to alertness…” But it’s morning? Why do they need a fire?
-When everyone was asleep the weird twins hunted down the humans and killed them.
-”Hybern’s brand of torture wasn’t very creative…” ??????
-The way the murder scene of the humans is described confuses the fuck out of me. Blood on trees, clawed up and bloodless torso???
-“Do you think it was for sport, or to send us a message?” I’m back to reiterating on what is up with the Fae in this world?
-“I think they aren’t accustomed to being denied. I’d call this an immortal temper tantrum.” The weird twins murdered humans and we’re comparing this action to a temper tantrum? I’m baffled.
-Something about sending messages, I don’t care.

The difference between Tamlin and Rhysand
this is gonna be long I sorry :((
I’ve realised that while tamlin and rhysand were both forced into the high lord position when they were so young, the two of them changed to accomodate to these roles in different ways. Rhys took the mantle of protector of the night court, presenting a cold facade to the rest of the world, but showing his true self to his court - he’d lay down his very life and soul for them. Tamlin however, never wanted this position. He is a predator and warrior, not built for the fine politics and social navigation of court life - you can see this in his temper, his literal beast shifting. Rhys, Rhys is a dreamer through and through. Amren said she’d never met a high lord like him, the most powerful high lord in history yes, but also not one who dreams as he does. Who dreams, and hopes, and works towards a better world. Who envisions a future for the night court and for the world free of the pains of today. Who has this warmth in his heart, this dream that guides him - pushes him on. And I realised, Tamlin never had that. Perhaps that’s the reason why he failed so miserably at leading the spring court. Rhys’ vision and dream allowed him to create and grow the night court, to make changes, to create an inner circle of Illyrian bastards, women and an otherworldly creature housed in a fae body; to build a relationship with the people of Velaris, to love and respect the people who deserved it.
Tamlin never did that.
He had no vision for what could be, no dreams of potential, only what he knows from past high lords. Those who ruled with an iron fist, who ordered their subjects around, who didn’t trust friends close to them. Tamlin’s temper and his need to live by tradition guides his every movement. Tamlin may be the most powerful fae in the spring court but he is also the weakest in my opinion. He does not know the value of genuine friendship and support, he does not know how to adapt and grow and evolve for a better future, he only knows tradition.
Just take how Tamlin reacted to Feyre and the tithe with the water wraiths. Again and again, he’d say this is how things are done here, and Feyre could not understand why? Why make all your people suffer and barely survive as a show of dominance? Tamlin could not see the potential in her act - Feyre tried to show him how he could rule, he could be gentler, more forgiving, but Tamlin couldn’t. He couldn’t see this potential, the dream of a different spring court and I think that is what set him apart from Rhys. He never realised or pushed for the ability to enact change.
Even comparing this to how Tamlin reacted under the mountain. When Rhys made the opportunity, again taking the initiative and calculating, to get Feyre out, Tamlin didn’t take it. All Tamlin could think of is that he wanted Feyre now. It filled Rhys with such anger that given the opportunity, he still didn’t take it. He did nothing for Feyre under the mountain - she died for him, she gave up her very soul, and he didn’t do this one thing for her. While he was physically weaker, Tamlin still did not recognise his own power and ability to enact change. Under the mountain, Tamlin chose the short term pleasure of being with Feyre, over the real difference of helping her escape, a larger change. In his own court, I believe he consistently chooses those small term conveniences and pleasures over enacting true change. He’d follow the calanmai, then the tithe, there’d be no high lady, and year after year he’d repeat the same mistakes of his predecessors. Instead of changing his court into a better land, his people continued to suffer and grow to resent him as they are subjected to archaic demands. Rhys, as soon as he became high lord, shifted the entire structure of his court. First and foremost sacking his fathers advisors and Illyrian leaders, and allowing the court of nightmares to govern themselves. He built himself a stronger inner circle and group of leaders within his court that he could rely upon to make the difference he wanted to see. I believe that is the fundamental difference between the two of them.

pls write this canon divergence if you can
"cassian finds out that nesta went to find feyre when she was still a human. that's how strong and brave her mate is"
Ok so I’m going to call this like a mini slice of life. Just a quick headcannon that spilled out from the prompt. Enjoy!
“Do you believe in fate?” Cassian asked his mate offhandedly one lazy morning. His fingers trailed slowly down the curve of her waist, skin glistening with an incredibly thin sheen of sweat from the activities they had just finished.
Cassian wasn’t exactly sure why he asked the question. She had him pondering the divine, he supposed. Nesta was always beautiful, but holding her hips as the sun started to rise behind her, golden light dancing through strands of honey brown hair while her head fell back in pleasure… that was an experience Cassian would not soon forget. He wanted to capture every moment with her. Not in a painting like Feyre did, but a living, breathing memory that he could pluck out of his mind and relive at a second’s notice.
Nesta lifted her head up off of his chest for a second, brows drawn together. “Isn’t that what being mates is?”
Cassian shook his head. “I’ve never thought of it that way. It’s a magical bond, and I suppose it is pre determined, but I don’t think that it is fate on its own. Fate, I suppose, is when 2 people who are mated were actually made for each other, beyond a power-hungry cauldron’s desire to create stronger Fae.”
Nesta scrunched up her nose. She still had a strong reaction to any mention of the cauldron. He still didn’t blame her.
“I suppose I have to believe in fate then,” Nesta said quietly. In a soft, careful voice that only he ever heard.
Cassian tightened his grip on her waist, pulling his mate even tighter against his chest. As if he could drag her into him, wrap them both entirely and inseparably between those golden threads that sung between their souls.
“I do believe in fate,” Nesta repeated, more awake and sure now. “When I was human, the wall wouldn’t let me in to Prythian even though I found the gaps. I Could physically see them, but there was still a barrier. Not magic, but something… more visceral. Like it was telling me it wasn’t time yet.” Nesta shrugged. “I probably would have died if I’d made it through and then who knows… maybe the whole war would be different.”
Cassian turned quickly to properly look at his mate, shifting her ever so slightly. His muscles tensed up at her words, the very idea that he might have lost his mate before he ever met her. But something more pressing needled at him. “Why would you have tried to enter Prythian as a human? You hated the Fae.”
Nesta rose a brow. “Feyre didn’t tell you?” Cassian shook his head. “I hired a mercenary and went the morning after Feyre did.” Nesta shook her head. “I should have gone right away. I lost my sister over a few hours of cowardice.”
“What changed in those hours?” Cassian blinked, still not entirely over his shock.
Nesta shifted her gaze over his shoulder. “I knew Tamlin was a beast, but Feyre… she was used to beasts. She’d never met one she couldn’t take down. But then my father and Elain were completely enchanted. And that… pretty words and the power to make things seem better than they were. That has always been Feyre’s weakness.”
“And the one thing that would never fool you,” Cassian’s fingers returned their soft caressing of Nesta’s body, this time focusing on her lower back.
Nesta keened into his touch. He loved to see her like this, the way she only was with him. A sated lioness purring into his touch.
“I wasn’t even surprised when Feyre came back and told me she had fallen in love with the beast. She was always optimistic like that. Not like Elain, openly sighing and dreaming about glittering ballrooms and handsome princes. Feyre craved a whirlwind, magical, experience, but she would never admit it.”
“Sounds like someone else I know,” Cassian murmured.
“I have never craved a magical whirlwind,” Nesta scoffed lightly. “My resistance was genuine. Feyre’s never was.”
“Lucky me,” Cassian bumped her nose with his own.
“Don’t pretend you didn’t love the challenge.”
“I loved every second of it,” Cassian smiled against her skin, lips trailing down the curve of her neck.
“Liar.”
“Alright,” Cassian acquiesced, “I loved most of it.”
“Hmm,” Nesta hummed.
Cassian’s hands moved up to tangle in the still-mussed strands of Nesta’s hair. “You’re incredible.” He could feel her tense under his palms, lips about to part in protest. Cassian quickly moved his mouth forward to kiss her before she could do so. “You are incredible, Nes. I’m more in awe of you every day. You are beautiful,” he kissed her. “You are brilliant,” another kiss. “You are powerful.” Nesta laughed a little against his lips this time. “Compassionate.” Cassian moved to simply speaking against her lips instead of separating. “Brave.”
“Can I get you a dictionary?” Nesta smiled.
“I’m serious. I didn’t know… I was wrong. What I said to you when we first met. You went into the woods, fully prepared to face Prythian alone, armed with nothing but an iron will and a stare that could kill-”
“It was enough to scare an entire Illyrian camp,” Nesta gave him a little taste of her signature glare.
“Those Spring Court idiots wouldn’t have stood a chance,” Cassian agreed. “But my point is that every time I think you can’t possibly amaze me more, you prove me wrong.”
“You should be used to being wrong at this point,” Nesta buried here head in Cassian’s chest.
He just smiled, running his hand through her hair. She was trying to avoid his compliments, and that was ok. He’d just have to keep finding new things to praise her for until she learned how to accept how incredible she was.

My love! You know I've got to get my Feysand fix in, so about about some hcs for a Feysand modern day proposal? 🥰
hello hello hello! it's taken me a couple days to get to this but it was a lot of fun and basically turned into a mini fic in bullet points! (i do have the christmas fic version of this you requested stuck in wip hell lol. expect christmas in july.)
Ok so for starters Rhys would be super nervous, everyone knows Feyre is going to say yes because they're so sappy and obviously in love, but it doesn't stop him from worrying!
In terms of how he does it, Rhys is torn between a huge grand gesture (because Feyre deserves The Most and he wants to deliver) and keeping it small and intimate (since they both have an aversion to huge parties and feyre would be a little self-conscious at the attention).
He also wants to avoid any unpleasant memories of her first engagement with Tamlin.
Eventually, he decides to keep it simple with a nice dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, followed by stargazing in a secluded spot.
Rhys initially plans to keep the proposal a secret so nobody in his family spills the beans, but Az finds him standing in the middle of the living room staring at the ring one day. Naturally, it isn't long before Cassian and Mor have also been roped into the secret.
Thanks to Mor's not-so-subtle meddling, Feyre dresses in a gorgeous navy dress that just so happens to be the same shade as Rhys's dress shirt.
Rhys feels like he's had the breath knocked out of his chest all throughout dinner. He can't stop staring at Feyre, caught up in her bright smile, the way her dress hugs her curves, how the lighting glints off her eyes and hair.
At one point, Feyre leans in, bemused.
"Is everything alright? You've barely touched your food," she asks.
Rhys shakes his head and laughs off the nerves. "I can think of something else I'd rather be eating."
She smacks his arm lightly with a laugh, but says, "Maybe you'll be in luck when we get home."
Suffice to say, Rhys makes it through the rest of dinner without making too much of a fool out of himself.
After they finish, Feyre is prepared to head back home, but Rhys drives elsewhere, to a park a few miles outside of town. He pulls a picnic blanket out of the car so they can sit on the ground and stargaze.
It's reminiscent of one of their very first dates. The sky is clear, it's a beautiful night, and they're young and in love.
It's impossible to say how long they're out there for, equal parts sneaking glances and sharing smiles with each other and stargazing.
But finally, Rhys knows it's time. He pulls Feyre to her feet. "Let's go down by the lake," he says.
"Won't it be a little chilly?" Feyre asks.
Wordlessly, Rhys shrugs off his jacket, offering it to her. Feyre takes it with a small bemused smile and lets Rhys lead her down to the glimmering lake, where the stars reflect upon the water.
She knows Rhys is a hopeless romantic, but can never tell exactly what tricks he has up his sleeve.
"I remember the first time we came here."
She smiles at the memory. "So do I. I hadn't gone on a date with someone who wanted to go stargazing before. You were the first person I met who loved the stars like I did."
He winks. "I knew there was a reason you decided to keep me around."
Rhys's heart is pounding out of his chest, he can feel the weight of the ring box in his pocket as he squeezes Feyre's hands. But it's now or never.
"Do you want to know what else I remember about that night?"
He gently slips his hands away from hers and drops down on one knee, pulling the black velvet box from his pocket.
"I remember thinking that the joy in your eyes was as bright as the stars that night. I knew right then that I wanted to spend every day trying to make you as happy as you were then."
Feyre's hands fly to her mouth, overcome with surprise and emotion. Rhys's own eyes grow a little damp, recalling all the steps they have taken to get here, everything they've worked for.
"Feyre darling, will you let me make you smile for the rest of our lives? Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
"Yes," Feyre mouths, at a complete loss for words before she finds her voice back. "Yes, Rhys. Yes. Of course, I will."
She's falling to her knees just as Rhys is rising back up, so they both catch each other and stand.
Rhys holds her left hand reverently, and he slides the luminous sapphire on her finger. As Feyre pulls him in for a kiss, a shower of stars begins to scintillate down from the sky. They're laughing and crying and don't ever want to let the other go.
Rhys never tells a soul whether or not the timing coinciding with the meteor shower was planned. But he makes good on his promise to make Feyre's eyes shine as bright as the stars with joy. And she returns the feeling every bit as much.

Regardless of his motives or his methods, Rhysand was keeping me alive. And had done so even before I set foot Under the Mountain.
This is one of many similar quotes from acomaf and I'd like to break this down.
First of all, the word 'regardless' doesn't even apply here. You can't disregard SA. With this one word, she is totally just... dismissing the SA. It's like the female victim thinking that's it's her fault for getting SA because she wore a dress too short or was being a little too flirtatious. Feyre at this point is utterly convinced that what rhysie did was for her own good and honestly it's just so sad. I didn't re-read acomaf it felt pathetic to me in the first go and even more so after reading anti post on Tumblr and Reddit.... But (i'm a very emotional person) now I feel like crying. This is just so sad. Feyre doesn't even count her SA as a crime. She doesn't realise that... She as a character is being forced to forgo her trauma of being SA by rhysand and actually marry him by her pathetic misogynist author. Imagine marrying your own SA who actively drugged and tormented you for THREE MONTHS. It's so unfair to her. By disregarding the SA inflicted on Feyre, she as a character is being disregarded which is just so sad because she is the protagonist.
It's just so heartbreaking to see a victim say that the SA was for their own good.
I've heard this ridiculous argument so many times and now I know where it comes from. Rhysand was not keeping Feyre alive by SA her. By drugging her. Do ppl even realise the depth of their statement? The SA Rhys inflicted on Feyre was a necessity to keep her alive. What?? I wud have still been ok, a little on edge, but fine with him taking her out of that cell as his servant or plaything or whatever. But did he have to drug her? Touch her inappropriately while the population of a whole continent watched? Make her wear a transparent curtain that barely covers her? Mark her with paint? Absolutely not. You know what he cud have done? Thrown her with the other servants. With the dancers. Or with the housemaids or kitchen staff. Used her as his own personal servant or something. Treating her horribly while doing so. I wud still accept that. But SA? Abso-fcking-lutely not. The moment you start justifying his behaviour, you are justifying his SA. I hope the Rhys stans who call Tamlin stans 'abuse apologists' keep that in mind.
And lastly,........ Srry I'm still processing the ridiculousness of this statement. How exactly was Rhys protecting her before she got utm? By violating her mind? Threatening to shatter it? Making Tamlin beg on his knees? Telling Amarantha about Claire Beddor and getting the whole estate killed? And the poor girl tortured? Telling Amarantha Feyre was a huntress that resulted in the worm trial? Threatening Lucien so feyre wud give up her real name?
You know who was protecting her even before she got utm? A certain blonde who sent her home, knowing he wouldn't be able to protect her and that staying in Prythian wud cause her death. Which it did, mind you. But I wonder why that's not brought up.....Duh! I know! Rhysie has a bigger dick! That negates all his abuse and SA! I am such a fool!
The message that this sends to the teenagers and young adults who read it is terrifying.

On the Topic of SJM Breaking My Heart in ACOMAF
*Spoilers for A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury*
No matter how many times I re-read the entire ACOTAR series, especially ACOMAF, SJM never fails to break my heart with her writing. So here is a list I made of all the lines from ACOMAF that ripped me in two 🥴
“Alone in my bedroom, I realized I couldn’t remember the last time I’d truly laughed.”
“I might even cry for my mother, who had never cared for me, anyway. I might beg her to save me—”
“The sentries returned in full force the next morning.”
“He’d locked me in here… He’d locked me in. He’d sealed me inside this house… I couldn’t get out; I couldn’t get out; I couldn’t get out—”
“Maybe it’d be a mercy to be ended— A broad hand gripped my face—gently enough not to hurt, but hard enough to make me look at him. ‘Don’t you ever think that,’ Rhysand hissed, his eyes livid. ‘Not for one damned moment.’”
“Some small part of me whispered that I could survive Amarantha; I could survive leaving Tamlin; I could survive transitioning into this new, strange body… But that empty cold hole in my chest… I wasn’t sure I could survive that. Even the years I’d been one bad week away from starvation, that part of me had been full of color, of light. Maybe becoming a faerie had broken it. Maybe Amarantha had broken it. Or maybe I had broken it, when I shoved that dagger into the hearts of two innocent faeries and their blood had warmed my hands.”
“‘I’m thinking that I must have been a fool in love to allow myself to be shown so little of the Spring Court. I’m thinking there’s a great deal of that territory I was never allowed to see or hear about and maybe I would have lived in ignorance forever like some pet. I’m thinking…’ The words became choked. I shook my head as if I could clear the remaining ones away. But I still spoke them. ‘I’m thinking that I was a lonely, hopeless person, and I might have fallen in love with the first thing that showed me a hint of kindness and safety.’”
“‘As long as the people who matter the most know the truth, I don’t care about the rest.’”
“...when I had belonged to Tamlin and been little more than a spy and prisoner.”
“I had done everything—everything for that love. I had ripped myself to shreds, I had killed innocents and debased myself, and he had sat beside Amarantha on that throne. And he couldn’t do anything, hadn’t risk it—hadn’t risked being caught until there was one night left, and all he’d wanted to wasn’t free me, but fuck me, and—… And when Amarantha had broken me, when she had snapped my bones and made my blood boil in its veins, he’d just knelt there and begged her. He hadn’t tried to kill her, hadn’t crawled for me. Yes, he’d fought for me—but I’d fought harder for him… And he had the nerve once his powers were back to shove me in a cage. The nerve to say I was no longer useful; I was to be cloistered for his peace of mind. He’d given me everything I needed to become myself, to feel safe, and when he got what he wanted—when he got his power back, his lands back… he stopped trying. He was still good, still Tamlin, but he was just… wrong.”
“And maybe I was exhausted and broken, but I breathed, ‘I killed them.’ I hadn’t said the words aloud since it had happened. Cassian’s lips tightened. ‘I know.’ Not condemnation, not praise. But grim understanding. My hands slackened as another shuddering sob worked its way through me. ‘It should have been me.’”
“And it wasn’t sorrow, or despair, or terror that hit me, but… unhappiness. Such bleak, sharp unhappiness… I was unhappy—not just broken. But unhappy. An emotion, I realized. It was an emotion, rather than the unending emptiness or survival-driven terror.”
“It’d just been a relief to think that for a moment, he might have been as lonely as me.”
“He flinched. The most powerful High Lord in history flinched. And I knew I’d hit hard—and deep. Too hard. Too deep.”
“‘And yet I found myself deciding that if you took his hand, I would find a way to live with it. It would be your choice.’ I sipped from my wine. ‘And if he had grabbed me?’ There was nothing but uncompromising will in his eyes. ‘Then I would have torn apart the world to get you back.’”
“‘I wonder if some part of me knew what was waiting for me. That I would never be a gentle grower of things, or someone who burned like fire—but that I would be quiet and endurining and as faceted as the night… I wonder if, even in my despair and hopelessness, I was never truly alone. I wonder if I was looking for this place—looking for you all.’... ‘I was looking for you, too,’ Rhys murmured.”
“And I saw the pain and sorrow in his eyes. Saw it and didn’t care, not as that thing in my chest was twisting and breaking. Not as my heart—my heart—ached, so viciously that I realized it’d somehow been repaired in these past few months. Repaired by him. And now it hurt.”
“And there it was. A future. The future I saw for myself, bright as the sunrise over the Sidra. A direction, and a goal, and an invitation to see what else immortality might offer me. It did not seem so listless, so empty, anymore.”
THE ENTIRETY OF CHAPTER 54 BUT I’LL JUST GIVE THE HIGHLIGHTS:
“‘And then—then I learned your name. Hearing you say it… it was like an answer to a question I’d been asking for five hundred years.’”
“‘I knew that you were my mate, and you were in love with another male, and had destroyed yourself to save him, and that… that I didn’t care.’”
“‘If you were going to die, I was going to die with you. I couldn’t stop thinking it over and over as you screamed, as I tried to kill her: you were my mate, my mate, my mate. But then she snapped your neck… And I felt you die… And this beautiful, wonderful thing that had come into my life, this gift from the Cauldron… It was gone.’”
“‘But I felt you through the bond, through your open mental shields. I felt your pain and sadness, and loneliness. I felt you struggling to escape the darkness of Amarantha the same way I was. I heard you were going to marry him, and I told myself you were happy. I should let you be happy, even if it killed me. Even if you were my mate, you’d earned that happiness.’”
“My friend through many dangers. My lover who had healed my broken and weary soul. My mate who had waited for me against all hope, despite all odds.”
“If I hadn’t already been in love with him, I might have loved him for that—for not insisting I stay, even if it drove his instincts mad, for not locking me away in the aftermath of what had happened yesterday. And I realized—I realized how badly I’d been treated before, if my standards had become so low. If the freedom I’d been granted felt like a privilege and not an inherent right.”
“‘Don’t let him take me,’ I sobbed again. ‘I don’t want to go back.’ And when I looked at Mor, at the tears streaming down her face as she helped Cassian get upright, I knew she realized what I meant.”
“‘I don’t give a shit if she’s your mate. I don’t give a shit if you think you’re entitled to her. She is mine.’”
“I cleared my head, my shattering heart—breaking for what my mate had done, sacrificed for me and my family. For her sisters. Because she hadn’t thought… hadn’t thought she was essential. Even after all she had done.”
*wipes tears away* yall crying too? no? oh ok cool,,,

I’m Never Going to Leave You - Part 5
Finally, here is part 5.  I struggled with this one, it’s that “transitional” chapter where the smut and fluff you really want to read isn’t there but it’s a necessary chapter to move the story forward.  Hang in there with me, I have some good stuff planned for the next chapter!
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
Part 5
Nesta went in search of her sisters.  At breakfast, Elain looked happy and comfortable, but after having neglected her sister for the past month she wanted to ensure Elain was doing well.  Or as well as could be expected after everything she had been through.  Cauldron, what a mess their lives had become!  Would they never know happiness?
She also needed to speak with Feyre about getting herself some training clothes.  She had already been ridiculed once about the impracticalities of fighting in a dress and she didn’t want to hear that nonsense again.  Of course it was idiotic to fight in a dress!  But she grew up being taught that girls didn’t do that sort of thing, so she never had the need nor the inclination to ever wear pants.
Making her way to the garden, she found Elain sitting on a bench, Feyre by her side, the two of them chatting and laughing together.  Nesta paused at the edge of the path that lead to them, suddenly feeling like an intruder.  At that moment Elain looked up and spied her standing there watching.  Grinning, she stretched a hand out to Nesta.  “Come join us, sister.”
Slowly, Nesta approached, but instead of sitting on the bench she stood before them.  Feyre and Elain were both smiling, obviously happy to see her.  Looking at Feyre, Nesta blurted, “You healed him.”
Clearly startled, Feyre nodded.  “Of course I did.  I would do anything for Cassian.  I would do anything for any of them, and also for you.”  Speaking more softly, Feyre added, “You know that, right Nesta?”
Blushing, Nesta only nodded.  Where had THAT come from?  She hadn’t had any intention of asking about him, so why was that the first thing to come out of her mouth?  Shaking her head at herself, she looked up and continued.  “I was hoping you would help me find the appropriate clothes to wear for training.”
Grinning, Feyre agreed.  “Of course!  And that’s good thinking, you definitely want to be able to move more freely than a dress permits.  I’ll have pants and tunics prepared in your size.”  At Nesta’s grimace, Feyre softened her grin.  “I know you’ve never worn them, but the pants are actually much more comfortable than you can imagine, and freedom of movement while training will really help you.”
“It’s not the possibility of them being uncomfortable that I’m worried about.”
Puzzled, Feyre cocked her head, silently asking Nesta what she means.  Sighing, Nesta continued.  “They’re just so….revealing.”
With a knowing smile, Feyre nodded.  “I see.  I’ll see what I can do about that.”  Feyre cocked her head and a few moments later announced, “Done.  They should be ready by the time we get to the camp tonight.”
Nodding her thanks, Nesta looked to Elain, who was failing to hide a grin of her own.  Rolling her eyes, Nesta sat on the bench next to her.  “Is that stupid fox still bothering you?”
“Don’t call him that!”  Nesta was surprised at the authority in Elain’s voice.  “Lucien is not stupid.”
Raising an eyebrow and smirking, Feyre countered, “But he is a fox, hm?”
Blushing, Elain giggled.  She giggled!  It had been far too long since Nesta had seen Elain this buoyant.  “Well, he is rather good looking, wouldn’t you agree?”  Feyre and Elain both chuckled at that, and Nesta had to grin as well.
“So, the two of you…?”  Nesta let the question hang, not exactly wanting to put it directly in words, but Elain just shrugged and Nesta released a breath she didn’t realize she was keeping in.
“Lucien and I are…getting to know one another.  I haven’t accepted the mating bond, but I’m not rejecting it outright at the moment, either.”
“And he’s ok with that?”  Nesta had a hard time believing that male was patient enough to wait when it came to his mate.  She had seen how attached he was to Elain leading up to the war, when Elain was still in so much shock over the changes to herself and the growing powers within her.
Softly, Elain took Nesta’s hand in hers and said, “He’s only concerned with my well being.  He’s giving me all the room I need and I’m under no pressure from him to do anything, or make any decision about the mating bond. Everything is so new to me and he understands my need to learn about myself, about who and what I am, first.  He’s truly putting my needs ahead of his own desires, whatever those may be.  And this gives him time to learn about me, as well.  And who knows?  He may learn that I’m not want he wants.”
Snorting, Nesta said, “He’d be a fool not to want you and I’ll beat him to a pulp if he rejects you.  If anyone is going to reject anybody around here it’ll be you rejecting him, not the other way around!”
Elain and Feyre glanced at each other and then burst out laughing.  “Nesta, one moment you don’t want him with Elain and the next you’ll hurt him if he rejects her.”  Feyre chuckled again, and then looked at Nesta.  “I’m so glad we have you to look out for us.”
Grimacing, Nesta mumbled, “I haven’t done a very good job of looking out for anybody lately.”
Reaching across Elain, Feyre took Nesta’s other hand and picked up Elain’s free hand in hers.  “We all needed to learn how to move forward in our own time, our own way.  And we are all still learning.  Just because we aren’t going at the same pace doesn’t mean any of us are better or worse off than the others.  Healing is unique to each of us and cannot be compared with anyone else’s healing.”  Squeezing her sister’s hands, Feyre continued.  “And we will have setbacks.  They will hit us when we least expect it and when we most desperately need to be ok instead of worse.  It’s during those times we need to be there for each other.”
“After my trials under the mountain, I was a wreck.”  Nesta raised her eyebrows in surprise.  “I wasn’t coping well after I freed everyone.  And Tamlin wasn’t there for me.  It was Rhys who pulled me through.”  Smiling in memory, Feyre admitted, “Sometimes I hated him for it, but in the end, he was there for me.  He was always there for me, and I’ve been there for him and his demons, too.  And I still am and he still is for me.”  Looking at both of her sisters, Feyre continued.  “I don’t think what each of us has been through is something any of us can simply ‘get over’ and move on from.  I think it’s something we have to accept into ourselves and learn to move forward with us.  We’ve been changed in ways none of us fully understand, and we have to adapt to those changes.  Fighting them, trying to be who we were before…THAT is what will destroy us.  Not what happened, but refusing to acknowledge who we have become because of what happened, THAT will tear us to pieces if we allow it.”
Nesta swallowed hard, blinking swiftly.  “I needed to hear that, Feyre.”  Smiling, Feyre squeezed her hand and leaned back.  Looking at Elain, Nesta asked, “You’re doing better?”
Elain nodded and squeezed Nesta’s other hand.  “I am.  I’m still learning, and I still have hard days, but I’m doing better.  Azriel has been staying with me a lot and he’s so comforting to be around.”  Nesta saw a faint blush stain Elain’s checks when she mentioned the Shadowsinger’s name, but didn’t comment on it.
The three Archeron sisters sat quietly in the garden for a few more minutes, enjoying each others company.
Elain was the first to break the silence.  “So Nesta, you and Cassian?”
Trying not to blush, Nesta just glanced at her sisters out of the corner of her eye.  The were both grinning and looking at her, clearly waiting on a response and not giving up anytime soon.  Crossing her arms, Nesta muttered, “I…don’t know.”
Nesta fidgeted while Elain and Feyre continued to stare at her.  Finally she burst out, “He’s such a male sometimes!”  At that, her sisters started laughing, and eventually Nesta joined in.  When they could all breath again, Elain asked, “Do you like him?”
Thinking hard, Nesta finally stated, “He’s annoying.  He’s arrogant.  He’s full of himself.  He gets under my skin and hits my buttons.”  Feyre began to snicker at that so Nesta hurried on.  “He’s also protective, and kind.  He’s caring, and surprisingly compassionate.  He….I think sometimes he can see things about me I never knew I wanted to be seen.”  Her sisters had become quiet and were listening intently; Nesta continued, almost musing to herself.  “He’s confusing, but at the same time he’s comforting.  He’s confident and strong, and yet his wings are so soft-“
At that Feyre chocked.  “His wings?”  Nesta nodded.
“I probably shouldn’t have, but he said they were healed and that I could touch them.  Although he started to tremble so I stopped.”  Looking at Feyre, she asked, “Can you check on his wings and make sure they are healed?”  Feyre nodded with tight lips and a strained expression on her face.
Elain spoke up.  “So, you and Cassian…?”
Again, Nesta hesitated.  Then looked down and twisted her fingers together.  “I don't know.  He ignored me for a month after the war.  The day we got back, he snatched his hand out of mine when Mor appeared, and turned his back on me and went with her.  That…..hurt.”  Elain and Feyre were startled at this revelation; Nesta never admitted to emotions such as these.  “Yesterday, he gave me an explanation on his behavior, and I believe him.  But it still hurt, and that’s not going to go away overnight.  Is it?”  She looked at her sisters, who gave her small, comforting smiles.
“You can trust him, Nesta.  I know that’s not easy for you, and you don’t have to do it because I said you should.  But at least give him a chance and try.  He and Rhys and Az are the most loyal and dedicated and incredible males I have ever met, and I wouldn’t ever ask you to trust someone that I didn’t have full confidence in.  So please give him a chance.  Not only for his sake, but for your own as well.  That’s all I ask.”  Nesta looked at Feyre and after a moment gave her a nod.
“There you are, I’ve been looking for you.”  Cassian sauntered into the garden with a swagger and a grin.  “Ready to head to the camp, sweetheart?”
With a look at Elain and Feyre, Nesta rolled her eyes at Cassian.  “Don’t call me that.”
Smirking, Cassian offered his hand to help her up.  “Should I call you Dumpling, instead?”
With a hiss Nesta snatched her hand out of Cassian’s, who just laughed.  As Nesta stomped her way towards the house, Feyre shook her head at Cassian.  Before entering the house, Nesta heard Feyre snort, “Illyrian prick.”  Nesta took note of that name for future use.

ACOMAF rant
You’re probably wondering, why am I not talking about ACOTAR first? Well, I don’t have as much of a problem with it, I thought it was alright. It was a little boring sometimes and some choices that confused me (also why weren’t there any Celtic creatures? why are we given the Naga of all things!? ugh). Tamlin was ok, sometimes he felt inconsistent at times but that might be because it’s written in 1st POV. I liked that he played the violin (or was it a fiddle?) it reminded me of a favorite character of mine from the Vampire Chronicles, Lestat (who’s also a blond violinist).
I actually read ACOTAR not that long after I got TOG because I was worried SJM was a bad author. She is but ACOTAR gave me hope and I got curious about ACOMAF, people on the internet said it was good. Oh, how a fool I was. ACOMAF was probably worse than TOG for me, if I had the physical book of it I would’ve thrown it so many times.
I’ll be real honest I’m so confused why people like ACOMAF? I’m guessing because of Rhysand but why? Don’t list a bunch of his non-existent traits or I swear... He was alright as a villain in the first book but here? He reads like he’s been neutered than anything. I guess the idea of an abused villainous sidekick could’ve been interesting to explore but not as a love interest, especially one that’s actually abused the protagonist he gets with (WTF!?).
Actually I should probably start from the beginning. For some reason Tamlin and Feyre are engaged not long after the 1st book. This actually confused me because it seems WAY too soon for them to reach that stage of their relationship. I guess this was done because of that stupid interrupted wedding trope, the only time I’ll ever like that trope is if it’s used for comedy.
Velaris was boring to me, actually all of Night Court was boring. I hate the “it’s only beautiful during the night” or whatever stupid excuse it was to make it not permanently night, that would’ve been too fun! Ugh. I also hate that magical creatures are only in the background, I thought that we’d get to to see pixies and dragon and unicorns now that we’re not just in Spring but NOooOoO
Summer was ok, I liked Tarquin. What I didn’t like was that Tarquin was used to put “tension” between Feyre and Rhys. Ugh. I hate that Feyre was giving excuses for not being with Tarquin instead of Rhys, she doesn’t even know Tarquin and she assumes he’s never had to kill innocents before! Unbelievable. Why do we have to be stuck with Rhys? You have no idea how much it angered me.
Don’t even get me started on Hybern (for those that don’t know it comes from Hibernia, another name for Ireland). It angers me that SJM just decided to butcher Ireland for who knows what reason. I have Irish in me so that’s why it bothers me.
This is getting too long, I think I might have to make a part 2.

#2 A Court of Mist and Fury - Review
Book Series: A Court of Thornes and Roses
Author:  Sarah J. Mass
Rating:  4.8 stars
Publication Date:  May 3rd 2016
Number of pages: kindle edition , 640 pages
Tumblr media
Guys, I tried, ok? I did my best but I could not not hate Tamlin. Let's just say, for a few minutes that what he did in the beginning was...understandable. Let's just pretend it was, ok? He had PTSD too, he tried to deal with everything that happened to him in his own way but those decisions..in the end where what nailed the coffin. The coffin of excuses.
I don't like hating characters because I know how much work an author puts into making one and I do my best to appreciate characters for their unique traits. I am the type who loves villains! I read some books because of the villain not the hero and I am not ashamed of saying so. But there's nothing more  I despise than a character - a person - who 'pretends' to love another while hurting them actively in any way, physical or emotional. If you've read my reviews of the TOG Series you'd know that I don't like Chaol. Well, let's just say Chaol is my favorite human in the world  compared to Tamlin. And can I just say that I didn't like him from the beginning? And I take back those words I said in my ACOTAR review regarding him being actually kind. He's not.
SPOILER ALERT!!!
He had Rhys' family killed - he started it (And don't you tell me I sound like a 3 years old) - and then, when his own kin was murdered in the process, he had the audacity to brush it off saying a rival court had done it. It was not a rival court you pompous fool, it was your mistakes!
My baby was just trying to make a friend and it resulted in having his family slaughtered. I'd make that guy do much worse than just kneel in my presence, especially after he'd taken my mate. Ok -  I might be a little overprotective of Rhys but guess what: I don't lock him in a house just so I have something pretty and broken to look at every time I go home.
SPOILER ZONE ENDED
I'm trying so hard not to hate characters because I hate hating them. It makes me upset each time I see their stupid names on a page and it takes from the pleasure of reading an amazing book. Right now I'm not sure yet if Mass wrote Tamlin the way she did for us to hate him, or it just happened. Because thank the Cauldron I'm not the only one sharing the sentiment.
Rhysand was just as I expected. An amazing book-boyfriend-material character. I loved his masks, how we slowly start to see more of him, how we get to see beyond the layers and  start to know a different kind of ruler - a dreamer. Usually, in books, the dreamers are the ones who are trying to get to power and change things. He has that power and is doing his best in changing as many things as possible while defending the most precious of things. I love when an author takes an idea, a stereotype and turns it around, making us see another side. When you hear Night Court and Darkness you immediately go to evil, bad, scary.  But darkness isn't just unspeakable horrors, it's solitude, it's beauty, it's a dreamland. Velaris is enough to explain all of it - City of Starlight, Court of Dreams. And yet, Mass doesn't ignore the other side, reckless, merciless, horrendous. We see the Court of Nightmares and we see Rhysand as the High Lord of it, breaking his uncle's bones for merely calling Feyre a whore - the cruelty of the gesture wasn't just a mask. He's basically the bad boy who thinks he doesn't deserve to be loved. And for some reasons I have a weakness for this kind of characters.
When his eyes found mine again, his mouth twisted in a smile so few saw. Real amusement—perhaps a bit of happiness edged with relief. The male behind the High Lord’s mask.
What I loved about Rowan and Aelin is the same thing I loved about Rysand and Feyre - that they let each other heal before entering a relationship. And that's important because Mass basically says something few people do. No one can save your soul, no one can heal you. You don't find love for that. You get yourself together and love will help you find happiness. When they say you can't love someone else if you don't love yourself first, it doesn't mean you are too broken, too incapable to feel love. It means that if you don't love yourself wholly you won't let anyone else close enough to do so - because you think it's impossible for them to want you after they know all of you. And no, Rhysand and Feyre weren't perfect, weren't completely healthy, but they started as friends, they know when to give each other the space needed for healing. They don't press each other, not like Tamlin did. This is the kind of love story I enjoy reading about, a real and mature one. And it doesn't hurt that it was basically a slow burn, at least for Rhys who has been in love with her since the first book - and yeah...that's my kink.
He glanced down, then up at me again. “I knew … I knew I was in love with you that moment I picked up the knife to kill Amarantha."
Feyre - I'm starting to really really like her. She's getting powerful, she's getting back together and she's accepting herself. She knows what she deserve and she knows Tamlin is not it, at least not post ACOTAR Tamlin and that's something few girls would admit. But she does so and moves on, heals, learns to fight for herself. She pushes and doesn't let Rhys play games with her, and every time he did, she confronted him about it. She didn't just sit on her ass and accepted. She fought for herself. She learns to love and she gets a family -  a dysfunctional weird family -  but a family nonetheless. And she fights for that with all she has.
SPOILER ZONE
And what she did in the end, how she accepted it all and chose to lie and be taken to Spring Court - just to protect those she loves,  she went to a place where she'd been abused. Because she had been emotionally abused. Some would think 'abuse' is too big of a word but you don't get panic attacks from some simple hurt feelings. Despite what it would really mean for her to get back to that place she does so in order to protect those she loves, she's strong enough to endure it all.
SPOILERS FREE:
Mor-Cassian-Azriel-Amren are the dysfunctional family. They're awesome and I'm too tired (it's late, burning the midnight oil)  to get into more details but I loved each of their characters, we get enough info on them to start to genuinely know them which is only proof of Feyre's deepening bond with them.
And I got that alternative perspective I've wished for...but guess what: I didn't want it that way. Not if it means Rhysand and Feyre are now apart. But...let's hope the next book will have different perspectives and not just because those two are in different courts.
This is my favorite book of the series so far, I didn't think ACOTAR could have been such a great series, not after TOG but Sarah J. Mass manages to write such beautiful stories and there's no denying it. Her series are quickly reaching my favorite-books-list and her characters will soon be a paragon for future ones I encounter.
The only minus both series have is that the villains aren't memorable. There's nothing really wow about them, Maeve is slowly becoming more of an interesting enemy during the Empire of Storms but in the ACOTAR series I haven't found myself impressed - not yet, at least.
But taking that aside, these books are pure genius and are a MUST READ for any bookworm. So don't be a Tamlin (sit on your ass without doing anything)  and go and start reading!

Love Undercover Part 8
Previously..
Tamlin you've got your self a little tease." Adam says laughing.
"You should see her when she's made."
"I my friend hope to never see that."
"Well if she ever remembers what they did to her in the court of night be prepared to see all hell break loose."
"Why it's not like she has any powers."
"She knows how to fight though and she can do more than you think she caught the suriel as just a plain mortal."
"What."
"Yeah. That's why I try to give her what she wants." He Says laughing. I then go upstairs knowing what i have to do to save cassian. i take slow breaths and clear my mind as i change in to a red bra with lace trimming and a matching thong. I put on a thin pink silk robe that comes to the top of my thigh.
I then open the door to go to tamlins room but instead of a empty hallway i see Adam and Evan dressed in only boxers. (166)
Now...
"Can i help you." I say.
"Tamlin says you needed some company while he cleans himself up some."
"No I'm fine a say taking a step back into the room. They also step in to the room.
"We can still keep  you company though." They said as I turned and ran to the bedroom to shut the door and lock them out they are faster then me and push me into the bedroom. I fall and roll landing in a crouch. They both jump at me they knock me to the ground pinning me.
"So we heard a nasty rumor about you." They said as they carried me to the bed they then tied my hands to the posts and tied my legs together.
"What's that." I growl.
"Well technically Evan there are two rumors."
"Oh that's right isn't it Adam."
"What would that be." I say.
"You My dear lady are very powerful and mean a lot to lots of people." Evan says playing with the tied robe strings. As if he's trying to pressure me.
"That is half true im only a valuable person."
"So your powerless?" Adam says.
"Yes the only power i have is to Glow some times." I Say.
"OK Next rumor." Adam says as he runs a hand down my thigh tracing the outline of robe.
"The next rumor is that you are rhysand's mate."
"False." I say.
"Are You sure." Adam say looking at me like he already knows the answer to that.
"Positively."
"Feyre do you know what happens to women who lie in the Autumn court." Evan said pulling the string to the robe so that it falls open.
"Stop please."
"How would Rhysand feel if he found out that his fox played with others."
"I think it would destroy him."
"No." I say. I then silently slip into their minds. I make their senses betray them as i make them see me begging them not to and begging them to stop as they took turns touching my careful to avoid any of the cloths. I beg and cry as Adam in reality takes off his boxers he then runs his member down my leg. I scream knowing i cant control them both at one. Evan grabs my throat.
"Shut up."
"Yes.Sir." I say. He then pulls out his member as well. He then removed his hand and pulls out knife.
"Wanna play a game."
"No please st.." But before I could finish or even enter his mind to stop him. He stabbed my thigh jerking the knife out. I scream. I automatically hear Rhys screaming down the bond. I ignore him knowing I can't tell him or my cover would be blown. Evan laughs as he hands it to Adam. Adam looks for second and smiles. Then all of a sudden he starts carving a word in to my stomach. I scream with each letter. Once finished he licks the blood off my wound. The darkness seeps out of me as I jerk the rope breaking it. I sit up as Rhys voice keeps yelling. I knock them unconscious when I hear Cassian yelling my name. I winnow downstairs I fall to the ground once there. I struggle to get up but I do and I free Cassian who grabs me.
"Feyre your stomach. Who would write that."
"I'm fine." I lie as i close the robe loosely tying it. I then say to Rhys who is beating on my shield.
"Be at the mountain house where you first took me in 5." I yell.
"I'm already there." He says.
"Ok." I say. I then winnow us into the infirmary. I Help cassian on to the table and give him some of the blood coming out of the wound on my leg since I don't dare look at my stomach. His wounds glow as they heal within seconds. As soon as they finish rhys comes running in.
"What were you thinking." He yells at cassian.
"Alexia's not dead."
"She's in the city looking for you." Nesta says suddenly appearing from behind rhys. She comes around rhys and slaps cassian.
"You had me worried you damn fool."
"You don't have to worry Im a warrior."
"You are my mate you moron how can I not worry." Nesta says hugging him close to her. She then turns to me.
"How long are you back." She says looking me over.
"Not long I can't risk tamlin knowing im gone. wait where's elain." I say.
"She upstairs with amren. She's waiting to come down."
"She can't Lucien will smell her on me. even though he is working with me i won't do that to him."I say as I struggle to get up . Nesta helps me. Rhys comes towards me.
"As much as i want to touch, hug and kiss you. I can't have your scent on me it's bad enough to have cassians and Nesta's."
"But don't worry once i get back we are having a retreat to one of you mountain houses and i want it in every room and on every wall." I  say stroking the bond. He smiles and sighs. He automatically frowns and looks at my leg. He then inhales.
"What happen and why do you smell like fall." Rhys said growling.
"It's fine beron and the boys are staying at the spring court." I say.
"No, your smell its laced with fear and pain." He says.
"No I fine."
"Liar." He says.
"Why are you bleeding then."
"I fell."
"She's lying. I heard her screaming for people to stop. She then just screamed. She screamed your name..." Cassian said before I cut him off.
"Enough." I say.
"Yes my lady." Cassian says backing away from me.
"Cassian i didn't mean it like that." I  say as i sit on the bed beside cassian i then take his hand in mine causing Rhys and Nesta to growl. We laugh. nesta then pulls out a needle and thread and sits on the stool in front of me.
"Cassian unless I'm dying or anyone is attacking my city i don't ever want you to think im ordering you to do anything. Now i can't say that about rhys." I say laughing and squeezing his hand as Nesta sews up my leg.
"Your still bleeding."
"No It's dry blood." I say getting up. i walk pass rhys brushing my fingers against his and winnow back to the manor.
