Is there anything in French folk magic or French traditional magic about a new home/home protection?
I don't have a specific ritual but ingredients and methods yes!
RURAL FRENCH MAGIC ELEMENTS
You can make crosses to have at the doors! The plants vary according to the regions: houseleek, cross-benites with lavender, immortelles, according to the folk religious holidays however, traditionally it is on dates of specific religious holidays.
We do a fumigation in the home, certainly with prayers, with plants depending on the region: laurel, juniper... we can burn protective plants, make bouquets of them, especially elderberry. All pungent or strong-smelling plants will be protective (elderflower, garlic, hellebore, holly, hawthorn) For protective bouquets: artemisia, foxglove, meadow iris, mint, St. John's wort, walnut branches, fern, verbena, the Queen of french witchcraft.
We can do a ritual where we will pass the plant through the fire to strengthen its power. The cross is the ideal symbol. The perfect day will be Saint John's Day.
Be sure I'll return to you if I find anything else out! Finally if you need a spell to banish negativity from the house I can give you one by messenger too!
HORSHOE
I think a horseshoe would be ideal ( just like garlic). It is not ''french trad craft'', just a method I would use, but I would purify it, dedicate it to the 4 elements, fumigate it, then recite by hanging it or nailing it:
''Vigilavi, et factus sum sicut passer solitarius in tecto'' (Terese d'Avila, Psalm 102)
But it is my own creation! Otherwise there are these spells from The Witch's Almanac by Katherine Quenot, unfortunately her sources are rarely cited. Some are ancient, others modern...
Here is one of these spells that seems interesting to me because it contains verbena:
TO ATTRACT PROTECTION INTO YOUR HOME Make a purple sachet 18 centimeters on a side and put rosemary, verbena, and a lock of hair from each of the inhabitants, and a picture of the house. Close it with a purple cord, put everything in a secret place in the house and never open it.
TO KEEP YOUR HOME HEALTHY
Make a braid with two green laurel branches, then hang it on a red cord above the interior door of the house or gate.
This talisman will also preserve your family from jealousy, backbiting and the evil eye.
And this one which seems to be modern but inspired by traditional principles:
TO PRESERVE YOUR HOME FROM HARM
You will need coarse salt, cracked pepper, an egg and sticky paper.
Take the egg that you will pierce at both ends to empty it of its contents. Mix the coarse salt with the same quantity of crushed pepper.
Fill the egg with this composition after stopping one end with the paper.
Place everything in a closet or wardrobe in your main room. The egg should be changed every three months. When you get rid of it you have to throw it outside the house in a trash can saying:
''Hexes, evil spirits, in this egg I locked you, now you are thrown.
Never come back to my house,
To the world of junk return''

I like to think "Puppy" by Pomme is Sirius and Remus singing to Harry as a lullaby before sleep. Just look at the lyrics, with Remus singing in English and Sirius singing in French:
Now, that time is slow / Il n'y a rien de plus beau
And they close all the stores / Tout est calme dehors
As I see you grow / Dans le ciel un oiseau
I love you more / Je t'aime encore
Never let you go / J'aimerai des mots
I'll watch you from the door / Toi tu rêves quand tu dors
As I see you grow / Dans le ciel un oiseau
I love you more / Je t'aime encore
I am afraid of the day you'll die / Je ne voudrais pas que tu t'en ailles
Things, when they change, always make me cry / Tout ce qui change, me fait toujours mal
I am afraid of the day you'll die / Je ne voudrais pas que tu t'en ailles
Things, when they change, always make me cry / Tout ce qui change, me fait toujours mal
As I see you grow / Dans le ciel un oiseau
I love you more / Je t'aime encore
"I AM AFRAID OF THE DAY YOU'LL DIE" BECAUSE OF JAMES AND I ALSO LIKE TO THINK THEY FOUND OUT WHAT DUMBLEDORE WAS RAISING HARRY TO BE
"THINGS AS THEY CHANGE ALWAYS MAKE ME CRY" MY BABY EXPERIENCED SO MUCH CHANGE BRO EVERY FUCKING MONTH AS WELL, SAME WITH SIRIUS WITH THE "TOUT CE QUI CHANGE ME FAIT TOUJOURS MAL"
"TOUJOURS MAL" AND NOT "TOUJOURS PUR" AHHHHH
"TOI TU RÊVES QUAND TU DORS" BECAUSE HE IS SO HAPPY HE ISNT TRAUMATISED LIKE SIRIUS SO HE CAN BE A LITTLE KID AND DREAM NORMALLY AND NOT HAVE TO DRINK DREAMLESS SLEEP POTIONS
French translation: (I am B2, but I have no idea how good this is, please correct me if needed)
There is nothing more beautiful
Everything is calm outside
A bird in the sky
I still love you
I'd like words
You dream when you sleep
A bird in the sky
I still love you
I wouldn't want you to go away
Everything that changes always makes me hurt
I wouldn't want you to go away
Everything that changes always hurts me
A bird in the sky
I still love you

You know... It is REALLY easy to do the whole "voodoo doll" trope or practice while avoiding any cultural appropriation, religious misrepresentation or racist cliche. Just... don't call it "voodoo".
Because if you are not aware, this practice of using a doll or figurine to bewitch or curse or put a spell onto a person, is actually older than the creation of vodou and its various branches. It can be found in medieval Europe. Several European countries have their own specific words and terms for this magical practice - a pratice attested since very early days. Heck it was even present in Greco-Roman Antiquity!
So... there is nothing forcing you to constantly say "voodoo doll" when talking about a spell-through-puppet. Except a bad habit that the United-States media imposed onto the rest of the world, I guess...
And, as the bitter old cynical soul that I am, I will definitively grumble something about how it is very telling that Americans did not choose to pick one of the several European terms and words for this magical practice and rather latched desperately onto a term related to a discriminized, fantasized and misrepresented Black religion... grumble grumble grumble.
But I will be fair to Americans and leave the possibility of the doubt. Because we all know the common American is a bit too lazy to do thorough research or be interested in anything outside of its own country, and so it is possible that all those people did sincerely believe that the idea of "magical bewitching figurines" was created on American land - because as we ALL know, everything was invented in America and for or by Americans, right? So of course it is bound to be the "voodoo doll" because it can't possibly have existed before the United-States were founded right?
Grumble grumble grumble.

Holy Dogs— Catholic Folk Saints
catholicism has an insanely diverse history and culture. with more than 1 billion adherents across the world, there’s bound to be variance in worship and commemoration. one of the best examples of this is catholic folk saints.
simply put, folk saints are saints of the people. they are holy figures who are honored as patrons by a local population, but not officially canonized in the vatican.
some are legends. some were old gods from polytheistic religions. some were real people. and some, believe it or not, were dogs.
that’s right! a good boy can sometimes be so good, they’re saintly.

St. Guinefort of Lyon
feast day— august 22nd
patronage— infants
st. guinefort was a greyhound who was said to live in 13th-century france. according to legend, guinefort was a loyal companion for a knight who lived near the city of lyon. one day, the knight went out to hunt. he left his infant son at his house, under the watchful eye of guinefort. when the knight returned, he found the infant’s room in chaos— the cradle was overturned and blankets were torn. the son was nowhere to be seen, and guinefort was sitting in the corner with bloody jaws.
under the belief that his son was eaten by guinefort, the knight drew his sword and killed the dog. only then did he hear his son crying. turning over the cradle, the knight realized his son was alive and well. lying next to him was the body of a viper, covered in dog bites. guinefort had killed the snake to protect the infant, making a mess of the nursery in the process.
the knight, grieving his mistake, took guinefort’s body and dropped it down a well. he constructed a shrine out of the well to honor him. when the townsfolk heard of the dog’s martyrdom, he was venerated as a patron of infants. mothers would often visit his shrine if their children were sick, praying for his protection.

Negro Matapacos (Black Cop-Killer)
feast day— august 26th
patronage— protestors, street dogs
negro matapacos was a stray dog who lived in the streets of santiago, chile. he would most notably hang around university campuses. he didn’t technically have an owner, but he was cared for by a woman named maría campos. she would feed him and give him a place to sleep. every morning before he left, she would tie a red handkerchief around his neck and bless him.
from 2011 to 2013, nationwide student protests rocked the country. as the demonstrations persisted, police began to turn to violent forms of crowd control. to the student’s surprise, there was soon a stray black dog protesting alongside them. he would lash out aggressively at approaching police, but was kind and protective towards the civilian protestors.
he soon earned the name negro matapacos, which translates to “black cop-killer” in english. it was a title that reflected his job perfectly.
during his participation in the protests, he showed absolute resilience against police violence. he would accompany protestors into tear gas, and even endured getting hit with water cannons. as the protesting continued, matapacos never retreated.
remarkably, he survived the demonstrations. the black dog gained media attention, and was honored as a hero and revolutionary icon. matapacos went on to live a happy life. he died on august 26th, 2017, attended by his caregiver and vet staff. according to various sources, the canine sired 32 pups before his death.
in 2019, protesting once again erupted in chile. although matapacos was not able to be there, he certainly was in spirit. his image was drawn on countless signs, and he was the subject of street art by revolutionary artists. he was a patron saint for the working class of chile, and is honored as such to this day.

''The second herb is called by the Chaldeans Royb, by the Greeks Olieribus, and by the French Ortie. Whoever holds this herb in his hand with yarrow will not be afraid and will not be frightened at the sight of some ghost. That if we join it with Serpentine juice, and after having rubbed our hands with it, we throw the rest into the water, we will easily catch all the fish that are there. That if you take your hands out of the water, the fish will return to the same places they were before.''
