this was mostly an excuse to practice lighting but i also wanted to draw out one of the non canon story mode endings for yang where them and venom end up getting together before xrd, not canon because they go through 100000 years of mutual pining instead but i also just wanted an excuse to draw them in their normal clothes LMAO. also background practice bc i usually hate drawing backgrounds

Into Your Room | L. Hughes
Tumblr media
Summary | Luke breaks up with the reader and they're both miserable
Pairing | Luke Hughes x reader, Jack Hughes x platonic! reader, Ethan Edwards x platonic! reader
Warning | Breakups ? and maybe three curse words ? that's about it!
Author's Note | This is my first post! I'm so excited because I love this song and all I could think about for a couple of days was this scenario. Please send requests and what you think!
Masterlist
You and Luke started dating while he was at the University of Michigan. Sure, you knew when He went to play for the Devils long-distance would be difficult because of your classes and his practices and games but you wanted to try. So it came as a shock when Luke broke up with you halfway through the summer after his NHL Debut.
“Y/N I really think we need to take a breather,” said Luke while you were both watching the sunset on the beach of the lake house.
“What?” You asked. It felt like your world came crashing down out of nowhere. You guys had barely been together a year. But you were inseparable at school and during the summers.
“Yeah, I just need to focus on hockey right now and you have your classes. I just don’t think it’s going to work out,” Luke rambled.
“But I want to make it work. I told you that before you left for New Jersey,”
“I don’t want to be held back because of some relationship,” Luke said and you stayed quiet. Your heart was shattering and he was stomping all over it.
“Ok, I’ll get all of my stuff and go back home. No point in wasting any time I guess,” You said with blurry eyes.
You packed up your bag and got ready to go. You saw Jack on the way out and gave him a hug goodbye.
“I don’t know what He’s thinking. I’m sure He’ll come around. It'll all work out,” Jack said into your hair even though it felt like he was trying to convince himself instead of you.
“It’s fine Jack, just take care of him for me,” you said and left the house and got in your car without looking back at one of your favorite places in the world.
I will run after your moving car
And I will follow you
You're my northern star
Luke was miserable for the rest of the summer. He didn’t want to admit it but he was lost without you. He wished he stopped your car as you left. He regretted everything he said. He was just scared you would find someone better than him at school now that he wasn't there.
Luke told himself that once the season started he wouldn’t have time to think about how much he missed you. Boy was he wrong.
He stalked your Instagram in his free time. He was sure he was almost always the first viewer of any story you posted and had to force himself to ignore your profile picture anytime it came up when he opened the app.
You looked like you hadn’t missed a beat once you got back to school. Always posting when you’d go out with friends or when you’d study at your favorite coffee shop.
You both had so many great memories there anytime you’d post your coffee order he could basically hear the espresso machines and the smell of coffee. He'd remember your laughter from when he had gotten foam on his top lip. Or the time you were so nervous for finals and wouldn’t look up from your computer until he got you a refill of your coffee. Your smile was so bright from such a small gesture he knew he had to do anything he could to see it.
Except he did the opposite. His last memory of you was full of tears as he watched your car pull away. He didn’t know what to do. Luke was a mess while you seemed fine. How could he ever convince you to take him back?
You don't know how much I need you
Yeah, I feel the weight
It's crushing me
You were a mess coming back to school. You missed Luke more than you thought you would. The two of you spent so much time together and when you couldn’t be with each other you would text every chance you’d get.
You missed his goofy smile and curly hair. Luke Hughes was everywhere. The memory of him was in the Library where you would have study dates, He was in your favorite bar where he couldn’t take his eyes off of you all night, He was in your classes where you would sit together and whisper random things back and forth. He was everywhere except where you needed him to be. With you.
Your friends always dragged you out even when all you wanted to do was stay in and watch your favorite TV show and wallow. They always made sure to take good photos so you could post “to make Luke know what he’s missing” they’d always say.
They basically had a schedule set of when to study with you or get coffee. You didn’t mean to make them watch over you as much as you did, but you couldn’t help how much you needed Luke.
Finally one night You convinced them that you were too busy with homework to hang out when really you were going to watch the New Jersey Devils season opener. Ethan Edwards saw right through your lies about studying because he knew you liked to finish most of your work at the beginning of the week.
He insisted on watching the game with you and you let him because he was the only one who remotely knew what you were feeling. You both watched pregame, and when the commentators showed Luke all you could notice were his eyebags and how tired he looked. Your heart shattered all over again.
You watched him get his first assist of the season and your heart clenched. If you were still together he would’ve called you after the game and told you all about it. Now you just felt like a spectator while he was all you could think about. Ethan turned to you and noticed how upset you were with tears threatening to spill over. He was tired of seeing his friends destroy themselves.
So, maybe, take me into your room
Without you, my soul is eternally doomed
You're the center of this universe
My sorry ass revolves around you
No, I can't do without you
Jack couldn’t take Luke’s self-pity anymore. All he would do was look at his phone and play hockey. Jack could tell it was affecting Luke more than he was letting on. His eyes were almost always bloodshot and he looked like he was moving through the motions at practice.
Luke was a shell of his former self and Jack knew he had to do something. He texted Ethan because he knew that besides Luke that’s who you would talk to the most. They both started plotting to get you back together. The Devils had a game against the Red Wings right before Thanksgiving and knew there had to be some way to get you there.
Ethan practically begged on his knees for you to come to the game. He told you he was gifted the tickets and would feel horrible to not go. Everyone else had already left for Thanksgiving, leaving you as his only option.
You weren’t stupid. You knew the game was against the Devils. You had the date marked in your planner as when you would have seen Luke if you were still together. You both looked forward to the game because it was the first time you would’ve seen him play in the NHL and then you would've gone to his parent’s lake house for Thanksgiving the next day. At least that's what was supposed to happen.
You only agreed to Ethan because you felt bad no one else could go. Ethan promised no funny business, and you could leave the game the second the final buzzer went off. It felt safe and you could see Jack. You missed Luke, but you were also close with Jack. It was something Luke loved about you, how great you got along with his brothers.
Luke had no idea about the plan Jack and Ethan were brewing. He was especially miserable because he knew if he didn’t mess up the best thing in his life several months ago, you would be at the game cheering him on. He was in hell beating himself over it. All he wanted was to see you in the Jersey he gave you right before his NHL debut.
Ethan came and picked you up all giddy when he noticed you were wearing a Hughes 43 jersey.
“What? It’s the only Devils gear I have, and I’m sure as hell not going to cheer for them in a Red Wings jersey,” You said without taking a breath.
“I wasn’t even going to say anything.”
You two find your seats and you realize how close to the ice it is. You’re on the Devils side facing the bench a couple rows up from the ice. Luke is definitely going to see you because of your proximity.
“If you had told me how close we were going to be I definitely would’ve worn-” You said before getting cut off.
“Don’t even finish that sentence we’re rooting for my team tonight,” Ethan said talking over the music.
The Devils start coming out for warm up and it doesn’t take Luke more than two seconds to see you. You both lock eyes and don’t look away. He notices you’re in the jersey he gave you, and his heart flutters with hope. He just stands there looking at you until Nico pushes him to tell him has to get ready for the game. You, however, look like a deer in headlights and your heart stops. You hadn’t seen Luke since the summer. Tears start to gather in your eyes and you know you have to leave.
“Ethan I can’t do this. I can’t be here,” You say with tears starting to fall.
“Please you promised me plus he can’t even do anything he’s on the ice,” Ethan says trying to convince you knowing it won’t work.
You start to gather your things when Luke notices. He rushes across the ice and knocks on the glass to get your attention. You instantly regret looking his way, but his eyes look desperate and excited your heart flutters the tiniest bit.
You read his mouth as he begs you to stay. You just look at him and Ethan debating what to do. You decide to stay and see what happens. Ethan's right he can’t do anything while he’s on the ice, right?
I'm throwing stones at your window
To get you to notice me
Don't make me stand outside, in the pouring rain
With a freshly ripped human heart from my rib cage
And a boom-box
How pathetic, babe
It was a hard loss for the Devils, but the end of the game meant you could finally leave. Ethan was right, Luke didn’t bother you for the rest of the game besides constantly looking at you when he wasn’t on the ice or there was a faceoff right in front of your seats.
As you and Ethan are getting ready to leave you get a text.
From moosey
please don’t leave
i really want to talk
You showed Ethan and he looked at you bewildered.
“You never changed his name?”
“I never had the heart,” You say looking back down at the texts. The three bubbles show up and disappear over and over again.
“I think you should go. What's the worst that could happen, right?” Ethan asks.
“I don’t know he can rip my heart out all over again and tell me off for coming to his game,” You say, swaying on your toes to your heels.
“He won’t do that trust me,” You don’t even have the energy to ask Ethan as your anxiousness bubbles up to your throat.
To moosey
where can we meet?
From moosey
come down to the locker room i can tell security you and ethan are coming
To moosey
ok
Luke has to stop himself from running to you when you get to the locker room. He wants to pick you up and spin you around like he used to do after his Michigan games. Instead, he walks up to you and says a simple hi.
“What did you want to talk about?” You whisper nervous about what he has to say.
“Us.” Your breath stops ready for him to tell you off for coming.
“I fucked up ending our relationship,” He says with his eyes turning red.
“Luke, why now? I was ready to fight for us but you dismissed me like I was nothing to you.”
“Because I was scared,” He admits. “I was scared you’d find someone who’d be able to give you more attention than I could. And that’s what you deserve, but God I can’t be without you. You’re the opposite of nothing, you’re my everything and I’m so lost without you. The last couple of months have been absolute hell.”
“You should’ve talked to me. I would’ve told you there’s no one better for me than you. The last couple of months have wrecked me.” You tell him.
So, don't turn away
You must know how much I need you, need you
Yeah, I can feel your pain
I hate to think how bad I treated you
But I know a place
Where the darkness can't reach us
“Please forgive me. Please can we just forget this all happened?” Luke begs you.
You just nod and launch yourself into his arms for a kiss. He deepens it by holding you in by your hair. Your heart flutters and you never want this moment to end.
“Would it be too much to ask you to spend Thanksgiving with us? I just don’t want to spend any more time away from you. But I get it-,” Luke asks nervously before you cut him off.
“No I’d love to come, I miss everybody.”
“Did I miss it? Did our plan work?” Jack comes into the hallway shouting excitedly.
“What plan?” Luke asks Ethan and Jack.
“You didn’t,” You say.
“Oh but we did, who do you think gave me the tickets?” said Ethan mischievously.
“Well I guess your plan did work, good job boys,” you say with a blush on your cheeks.
Luke kisses your cheek and tells Jack you are spending Thanksgiving with the family and you won't be going anywhere anytime soon. You finally feel like you’re back where you belong. While Luke feels the relief of finally having his world back.
No, I can't do without you, baby
Maybe, take me into your room
Without you, my soul is eternally doomed
You're the center of this universe
My sorry ass revolves around you
You— And again

Itto
Listen…. This man’s impulse control is ZERO. So reaching out and tenderly tucking a strand of hair behind your ear was never a second thought.
Itto has always been a touchy person. You are no stranger to being included in elaborate handshakes, crushing hugs, palm aching high-fives, and the occasional holding of the hand while he leads you to the next bout of mischief the gang is getting into.
This touch tho….. was so much softer than you've ever thought the oni capable of. You'd question whose hands they were if not for the soft graze of Itto’s long pointed nails.
It's not weird unless you make it weird...... Please don't make it weird.
If you point out the gesture, he insists that he was just helping a homie out. Bro is DENSE, absolutely clueless that he has a big ol' crush.
Everyone in the Arataki gang was dying to know what would happen next in the newest adventure novel from Yea Publishing House. This volume of the popular story had just been released and if they weren’t quick enough it was bound to sell out! Sure, it was only going to take a couple days to restock but the spoilers were guaranteed to be all over the streets by then. Itto was at the forefront of the line, insisting the whole gang camp out early to snag one. It became evident that this is where the Oni’s foresight had ended. The rowdy bunch was standing in front of the seller when the realization had hit; you were all too broke to get copies. In an act of impulse desperation, you had the bright idea to ban together. One by one, members emptied each of their wallets of what little mora they had. You could hear the grumbles and complaints from other people waiting in line as you quickly added it all up. Shinobu would definitely scold you all if she there and not caught up in ‘cool ninja stuff’ as Itto calls it. You proudly announced it was enough for one volume.... and a couple snacks.  Overall, a complete success in Itto's book!
“Great going Y/N! We have the next volume of ‘I Stubbed My Toe And Became A Vampire Magical Girl In Another World’ AND we have enough tri-colored dango to go around! See? What did I tell ya? We keep nothing but the best here in the Arataki gang!” The oni bragged with the widest grin stretching from ear to ear. He laughed as he wrapped one beefy arm around you and punched the other triumphantly in the air. Itto’s energy was contagious and soon even you were also holding the book up and exclaiming with the others just how much the Arataki gang rules.
Broke and happy, the ban of hoodlums cheered for their victory and gathered on the beach. You’ve learned a thing or two since joining the Arataki gang, like how to get comfortable almost anywhere. You handled getting the bonfire going as Mamoru was already poking sticks through lavender melons. The rest of the guys were off grabbing makeshift seats like stumps or big rocks. It didn’t take long since this was far from their first rodeo. Once the fire was big and healthy, Itto boisterously bestowed upon you the honor of storyteller. The boys eagerly sat around the fire to finally enjoy the fruits of their labor. You chuckled at his antics and dove right into the first pages. You barely registered how Itto diligently chose the closest seat and hung off your every word. Everyone was a great audience, ooo's and ahh's were always right on cue.
The main character just discovered their newest magic vampire power and were heading into the heat of their latest battle when…. you froze. The words on the page stopped computing as soon as you felt a feather soft touch on your skin. Tentative fingers swept across your forehead and lingered for just a moment behind your ear. You must have been so caught up in the excitement that you didn't think to tie up your hair. It was spilling over your face while you were reading. When you glance over, you are met with Itto's complete and utter attention. His intensely crimson eyes are locked on only you, listening intently with a relaxed smile across his features. He looked at ease and entirely oblivious to the fact that he just made your heart skip a beat.
"Boss you can flirt with Y/N later! The big fight is about to happen!" Genta complained loudly, followed by agreeing groans from the rest of the boys.
"Pffft flirting?!?!? I was just looking out for my bud here! As a responsible leader of this crew its my responsibility to-... to make sure Y/N doesn't get hair in their mouth and choke! I just saved their life! It’s foresight like this that makes me qualified to be the head honcho around here!" Itto's ramblings got louder and more confident with each word, thoroughly doubling down on his point. The Oni stood at full height and began spewing his facts about the serious dangers of choking and the statistics of deaths by hair per year, most of which you were sure were untrue.
"Ok! Ok boss! Sure, please can we get on with the novel?"  Akira groaned, not fooled for one second, but wanting so badly for it to end.
You put the bumbling man out of his misery and cleared your throat loudly. Itto’s ego was stroked enough and took the hint to settle down. The man reclaimed his spot next you without a fuss, his dopey smile returned yet again. You attempted to cover your heated cheeks with your book and willed yourself to forget the tingling on your skin where Itto's touch had lingered. You shook your head up clear your thoughts enough to get comfortable once again. There were still the final chapters to get through and the show must go on!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Diluc
LET ME TELL YOU! This man has TOO MUCH impulse control.
Diluc is so well-versed in etiquette and would never carelessly reach into someone's personal space without permission. Unless it’s a FIGHT.
Something about you makes all that etiquette go right out the window. He is doing it before he can think himself out of it.
He would scold himself for overstepping and possibly making you uncomfortable. He apologies earnestly, ever the gentleman.
Internally flustered, but hides it a little too well. Composure is this man's bread and butter after all.
Is acutely aware of the fondness they have for you. He often busies himself with other matters to keep from dwelling on it too much.
To say you bit off more than you could chew would be an understatement. The sack of potatoes you bought from Springvale looked deceptively light before. In your rush to get back to Dawn Winery, you didn't even think to use a wagon or bring any help. You were sure Adelinde was going to be so disappointed at how late you were.
As the newest maid, you were eager to prove yourself. Everyone at the manor was nice, but Master Diluc seemed particularly reserved with you. The master of the house was quite friendly at first, often sharing a few conversations with you as you cleaned around his office. You deliberated whether it was the vases of flowers you switched out in his office. Cecelias just seemed to brighten up the place more. Or maybe it was when you arranged his meals to resemble cute animals sometimes. But you only did that when you notice him having a particularly rough day! Ugh, he must think you're so unprofessional.
You let your thoughts wonder as you miserably carried your potato’s. Soon you felt your steps become sluggish and a slight tremble in your arms, signaling you couldn't go much further. The winery was still another half mile away but you had no choice. You slumped down in defeat on a near by rock. You were sure definitely going to be fired for this, how careless of you to not think ahead. Even if Diluc disliked you, you really enjoyed your time at the winery and getting to know everyone. You hung your head in shame, praying that you at least got to say goodbye to the rest of the staff before getting kicked out the manor.
"Y/N? Are you hurt?" A hand cut through your curtain of hair that blocked your view of the approaching figure. Gingerly, the gloved hand guided the strands away from your face and tucked them behind your ear. Diluc was crouching in front of you, his intense gaze scanned your features for discomfort.
"Master Diluc! No I'm alright! I'm so sorry I-" You quickly explained your situation and tried to stay focused while Diluc's gentle touch lingered on your skin. He seemed visibly relieved to learn you were unharmed. It was only then he noticed his encroachment. The man jerkily retracted his hand and leaned away to give you some space. The red haired man seemed alarmed for but a moment before clearing his throat to recompose himself.
"My apologies, I heard you gone alone to Springvale and had still not returned. This path can be dangerous when it gets late. I saw you crouched over and I thought.... Regardless I apologize for my boldness.” Diluc stated awkwardly. Despite his shyness, he still looked every part of a prince when he stood and offered you his hand.
“Thank you for being concerned.” You smiled and took his hand. “I’m just lucky to have such a thoughtful master! There was no need to come all the way out here for me.” You lied through your teeth and turned to attempt to lift the sack once again. Diluc cleared his throat and visibly clammed up once more. Wordlessly, he lifted the potatoes in your arms and began walking back to the winery. You tried insisting that you could do it, but he stubbornly declined and refused to meet your gaze. It was quite endearing to see the confident master of the dawn winery made such a bashful gesture. Perhaps your boss didn’t dislike you as much as you think....

Xiao
Be nice. Dude doesn’t understand the intimacy of the gesture. Why are you suddenly acting so strange?
Xiao was just annoyed that it was in the way. As a man of action, it was only natural to moved it. It is nothing more.
He wasn’t going to let a strand of hair keep him from looking at your face. Why is that such a big deal? Why are you red? He’s just telling you the truth.
Nah, it was you and your mortal reactions that is making him flustered. It was you staring at him with those big cute mortal eyes that’s causing this. It has to be, there’s no other explanation. (Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss)
Is either clueless or refuses to connect the dots that he likes you a lot. Its probably a mixture of both.
Working at the Wangshu Inn came with a few perks and stargazing after your shift was by far your favorite. The view, sounds, and atmosphere were wonderful. And it wasn’t just anywhere that you also get a quality companion to share it with. You had just settled in and laid the two plates of almond tofu next to you. It took but a few moments from when his name left your lips for Xiao to appear. The stoic man wordlessly walked over and took his usual seat nearby. Routine took over from there but getting to this point was akin to pulling teeth.
Xiao was annoyed when you initially took a liking to his vantage point. The adeptus could see all the surrounding hillychurl camps from the spot you insisted on sitting at for hours. He took no joy in intimidating humans, but his looming presence usually worked to deter mortals from he didn’t want them to be. Imposing aura or not, everyone has to share. You stubbornly stood your ground and stated the roof was plenty big enough for the two of you. Xiao would never resort to physically moving you, therefore was forced to relent. He remained out of sight but you sometimes caught glimpses of him when he would arrive there first. You couldn’t help the small inkling of guilt in your chest from forcing the other out of the spot. You really didn’t mind sharing. As a peace offering you began to leave small gifts behind. Sometimes they were small trinkets, some folded origami, or occasionally fruits and other snacks. When you saw your gifts still there, you would simply take it and replaced it with something else. It took nearly two months but when you returned to see your gift gone for the first time, you couldn’t help but smile the rest of the night. It became like a habit, not unlike befriending a crow.
Learning Xiao took a liking to almond tofu was the real game changer. You made your best effort to cook the dish yourself, cutting no corners. When you left the meal box there you expected it to be like the other gifts that disappeared into the night. It was a shocking to see something in return the next day. It took only a few more days for the yaksha to finally cave and joined you. He primarily insisted that you didn’t have to keep making your offerings. You laughed when the realization hit you. You spent the last months quite literally making offerings to an adeptus, praying for forgiveness.
Over time, the company became expected on the rooftop and the silence was comfortable. When conversation was sparked it flowed naturally and cemented an unlikely friendship. Although friendlier, Xiao could still be blunt and dismissive at times. It happened especially when he became frustrated with understanding mortal’s ever changing customs.
“You can’t just hold people’s faces like that!” You squeak, hiding your burning face in your hands.
“I wasn’t holding your face. I was moving your hair away, its blowing everywhere. I can’t even see you when its this windy. You should be wearing it up so I can look at you while you’re talking.” Xiao responded defensively but his tense tone didn’t match the words leaving his mouth. It especially contrasted the way he had used both his hands to smooth down your hair on each side, pausing to look back into eyes. When his stare hadn't let up, you were the one to break away. Your heart was damn near about to beat out of your chest.
“That’s something that.... lovers do! It’s embarrassing in this context.” You try to explain, noticing his frustration. Xiao’s eyes widened just a tad before avoiding eye contact altogether and crossing his arms.
“That doesn’t make sense. Just forget it happened then and keep telling your story about the inn guest.” The yaksha stated, grabbing his plate and turning away as he listened. The moon was just full enough for you to spot a small dusting of pink on Xiao’s ears. You decided to show him mercy and didn’t push it further. After all, it would probably take weeks of offerings for him to forgive you for teasing him.

Tighnari
No sweat. Doesn’t even bat an eye at the physical contact. He’s just being practical.
It doesn’t stop there. This dude will give you a whole up-do. It’s dangerous to keep your hair loose like that in the forest. He’s seen plenty of cases.
Your safety comes first and foremost. As soon as Tighnari notices it obstructed your vision he is on it. He’s surprisingly good at styling it too. Its not unlike braiding ropes and vines.
More insistent than normal on the matter. He claims it’s because you’re still relatively new to the forest. But other forest watchers may beg to differ.
He considers you a good friend, but it does confuse him when he notices these odd waves of protectiveness. It’s something he’s going to have to research further before coming to any solid conclusions.
There is extensive in-depth training that each forest ranger must go through before being allowed to step foot outside the marked trails of the Avidya Forest. It was grueling, but totally worth it when you saw you were finally scheduled for your first real patrol! As part of training, Forest Watcher Tighnari was assigned to accompany you and show you the ropes. You meticulously poured your lesson notes and made sure you had all necessary equipment on hand. Tighnari was the best there was and there was a part of you that really wanted to impress him. He was sure to quiz you right? There is no way he would let someone into the dangerous parts of the forest without being sure that you knew your stuff right? Nerves were definitely getting the better of you.
In hindsight it was quite silly to have worried so much. Tighnari was surprisingly easy to get along with and not afraid to get straight to the task at hand. As the week went on, you eagerly accompanied him on his routes and witnessed first hand just how brilliant the forest watcher was.
You didn’t expect how down to earth the revered Chief Forest Watcher Tighnari turned out to be. It was common for him to go off on tangents and lectures here and there, but it never felt like he was just trying to flex his knowledge or question yours. He was kind of excitable in that way, and you couldn’t help but find it quite endearing. You picked up on the quirks that indicated that was become accustomed to rangers spacing out while he talked on and on. Tighnari even seemed surprised that you had follow up questions about the topics he was just rambling on about. His ears were always a dead giveaway that he was caught off guard. Even someone without a big ol’ stupid crush would have found it cute.
The tall fluffy ears in question may or may not have added to your carelessness on this particular hike. Perhaps it was why a tiny little branch sent you tumbling down into a ravine. Later you would be corrected that the ravine in question would more accurately be labeled a gully, though that specific fun fact was far less welcomed.
“Y/N?!? Are you alright? Don’t move, I’ll be right there.” Tighnari called out urgently and hurried over to you.
“I’m okay. I don’t know how well you can treat a bruised ego though...” You called back. Attempting a joke to hide how embarrassed you felt. It wasn't your smoothest move. Tighnari was there in moments to help you sit up. His nimble fingers began untangling your hair from your face so that he could to get a better look at you.
“This isn’t a time for jokes Y/N. That could have been a serious fall.” You've heard this tone before. It was usually reserved for reckless forest visitors or rangers that didn't heed his instructions and cause trouble. This was your first time being on the receiving end and to make things worse you looked a mess with twigs and dirt covering you from head to toe.
“I know. I’ll be better next time.” You replied dejected. Tighnari managed to brush your hair back to take a look, but your eyes darted anywhere else while he examined you.
“You're lucky enough to walk out of that with just a couple minor abrasions. Just be careful alright?” Tighnari concluded, his tone softened considerably. You braved yourself to sneak a small glance up at him and he offered you a comforting smile. “Although, I do have an inkling of what caused you to misstep in the first place.” The forest watcher continued.
“And what would that be?” You asked far too quickly. The only way you were ever going to admit to ogling over your boss’ cute fluffy fox ears was over your dead body god damn it!
“Having your hair loose at this length can prove quite hazardous while paroling. I must have overlooked it before. Here, come sit I think I have a solution.” A careful hand guided you over to a nearby log. Next you felt the small tugs and pulls of the remaining twigs being dislodged from your hair. Tighnari was gentle but efficient while he worked behind you.
The ambiance of the forest made the silence quite enjoyable. It became so relaxing you could fall asleep if you wanted. You probably would have too, but you became hyper-aware each time Tighnari's gloved fingers brushed past your skin. After some time he announced he was done and you reached behind your head to feel what you could only describe as an intricate braid leading down your back.
“Wow! I didn’t expect.... thank you!” You said, in awe at his handwork.
“All in a day’s work. Come on we should be heading back before dark.” Tighnari led the way back to the trail. “And uh, watch your step.” He added with a sly grin. You rolled you eyes and chuckled at the playful sass. There’s plenty interesting specimens to learn about in the Avidya Forest and you were sure you just found your favorite.

“A pint, please. Thanks.” You smile at the bartender as you slide forward five pounds. You stand and wait patiently, leaning against the bar as he shuffles away to go fill up a tall glass of beer.
You hear your name being said from next to you. You turn to see a familiar girl with olive skin and long, silky black hair. Your brain takes a few seconds to compute who it is.
“Sasha! Hey,” You grin and she smiles brightly. “Hi. I didn’t know if it was you or not,” She chuckles and you stand there awkwardly, not sure of what to say.
“How’s life?” She asks. “Uhh, good. Can’t complain.” You shrug as the bartender slides you the beer across the counter. You take a sip as she nods.
“Same here. Just a little terrified of the fact that we are going to be seniors in a year,” She runs a hand through her hair with a sigh. “Me too, girl.” You nod in agreement.
“How was your summer?” Sasha asks. You let out a sigh unintentionally before fixing your facial expression.
“It was… good,” You nod slowly, almost trying to convince yourself. “I don’t know if you know but…There’s a rumor going around that you and Farleigh had somewhat of a summer fling,” She winces after she says this.
“Oh God,” You press a hand to your forehead and shake your head. “Who told you that?” You groan.
“I’m assuming it came from Felix. I’m not sure, but I just wanted to tell you…” She places a hand on your shoulder comfortingly. “If you ever need to talk or anything like that, let me know.” She says, her English accent soft and elegant.
She seems almost too nice. You’ve never seen Sasha like this, so it’s hard to believe.
“Thank you.” You dip your head and take another sip of beer. “I know I was never the nicest to you and we were never close, but I’m here for you.” Her hand falls from your shoulder gently.
“I think I was honestly just threatened by you,” She continues. You jerk your head towards her quickly and furrow your eyebrows.
“What? Why?” You scoff as if it’s absurd. “I always had this… gut feeling that he was in love with you or something. He would talk about you nonstop, about how much you annoyed him and how much he ‘hated you.’ I knew better,” She shakes her head.
“Oh. Shit. I’m sorry,” You feel bad, suddenly. Like you were the cause of their relationship problems.
“But that whole thing is over now,” You wave your hand dismissively. “He’s an asshole, isn’t he?” You both giggle at her words.
“He is. I can see why you broke up with him,” You nod, feeling no remorse for talking about Farleigh this way. It’s all true. But you also know Sasha had a lot to do with the shitty parts of their relationship.
“I’ll see you around, yeah?” She grins and holds up her hand, giving a tiny wave. “Yeah. See you,” You watch her walk away before turning back to your drink, grabbing it and heading to find an empty table.
You sigh, leaning down and fishing your textbook out of your bag. You still have four chapters to read before tomorrow. The first term of your junior year is kicking your ass, even though it’s only October.
Sooner or later, you see Felix walking through the entrance of the pub. You immediately crane your neck to search for any signs of Farleigh, since he usually follows Felix around. But thankfully, he’s not anywhere to be found.
You turn your attention back to your textbook, and when you glance back up, Felix is sitting across from you.
“Hey.” He smiles and you notice the cigarette between his fingers. “Hi. How are you?” You reply, not exactly in the mood to talk to him right now.
“Oh, you know. Just drowning in work,” He sighs and leans back in his chair, throwing his head back slightly.
“You and me both,” You chuckle lightly and close your textbook, knowing you won’t get anything read so long as Felix is here. He leans forward again and takes a drag from his cigarette.
“So…” He starts, trailing off. You raise your eyebrows. “So?”
“Are you and Farleigh ever going to make up?” He asks suddenly. You cough, surprised by the abrupt question.
“No.” You shake your head. “Don’t even try it, Felix.” You roll your eyes and he groans. “Please, we don’t even get to hang out much anymore because you’re avoiding him,” He whines.
“Then just… arrange a time to hang out with me when Farleigh isn’t there.” You grimace at the feeling of his name in your mouth. Felix facepalms. “C’mon. Look, I don’t know what happened between you two, but…”
“It sounds like you think you know what happened.” You narrow your eyes and he seems confused. “What?” He tilts his head.
“Lola told me you’re spreading rumors. Like, that Farleigh and I had some fling over the summer,” You explain, and he glances down like he’s been caught, before looking back up with amusement twinkling in his eyes.
“What, you thought no one would hear you two fucking at one in the morning? You guys were so loud, it’s like you wanted to be caught,” He chuckles and shakes his head. Your face burns beet red with embarrassment.
“I don’t judge you for it. I just didn’t expect it,” He says. “Okay, but that doesn’t mean you go telling everyone about it,” You reply.
“I didn’t mean to. I told one person in confidence.” Felix says. “You know you can’t trust these people to keep things to themselves,” You shake your head in disappointment.
“Okay, I’m sorry. But I think Farleigh really wants to talk to you.” He says, his tone persuasive and you immediately cringe.
“I’m not talking to him. Nothing will come of it,” You finish off your beer and set the glass on the table decisively.
“I just don’t want our friendship to be messed up because of this.” He says, sounding a bit sad. You look back up to him and see him glancing down at his lap.
“We’re good. It doesn’t have anything to do with you.” It comes off harsher than you meant it to, but Felix doesn’t seem to mind. “I can’t just forgive and forget, you know?”
He nods. “Yeah. Alright, then. Just consider talking to him. I’ll see you later, mate.” He drums his fingers on the table before standing up and walking to the bar. You sigh and decide to pack up your things after checking your watch and seeing the time. It’s getting late.
You stand up and grab your bag, slinging it over your shoulder. You walk out of the pub and down the cobbled streets while looking around and just observing the several groups of students, chatting loudly or laughing. The chilly autumn breeze tosses around crimson and golden leaves.
You go over your plans for the remainder of tonight in your head. You’re going to get back to your dorm, take a shower, then get the rest of your work done. That is, if you don’t procrastinate like you usually do.
You enter your dorm building and then stop in your tracks when you see him standing there, at the bottom of the stairs. It’s like you have a full body reaction to him standing in front of you, sending a chill down your spine and making your stomach churn. He doesn’t speak, he just stares at you. You step forward, walking up the stairs and completely ignoring him. “Can we please talk?” Farleigh calls your name.
“No, we can’t.” You respond, your tone harsh and bitter. You hear footsteps coming up the stairs behind you and you increase your pace, trying to get to your door and unlock it before he can catch up to you. But it’s no use, he’s already standing there behind you.
“Please. Just let me talk to you,” He begs. You shake your head. “Farleigh, I already know how this is going to go. You don’t talk.” You can’t even stand to look at him, even addressing him is difficult after all these months of not speaking.
“I’m going to talk. I swear. Please,” He pleads. “Fine,” You groan with exasperation as you unlock your door, although you’re sort of curious as to what he’s going to say.
He closes the door behind him and you go to sit on the edge of your bed after setting your things down and kicking off your shoes, looking at him expectantly. “Okay, talk.”
“I’m sorry. For everything.” Farleigh says, and it surprisingly sounds sincere. “I’m sorry for being a dick to you all these years. And those things I said at Saltburn, I didn’t mean any of it.” His voice is quiet and he looks down at the ground as he speaks. You blink a few times and take a moment to respond.
“Why would you say those things if you never meant them?” You ask, your own voice timid as you remember all the harsh and cruel words he said to you that one night.
“Did you mean it when you said you hated me and you wished we never met?” He fires back. You bite the inside of your cheek and avoid his gaze as regret washes over you. “...I never said–”
“Yes you did.” It’s silent and the tension in the air is palpable. It seems like you’re both waiting for who is going to speak next, but you aren’t exactly sure what to say.
“I just don’t understand why you’re so eager to apologize when you’ve literally hated me since the day we first met,” You chuckle sarcastically and shake your head. He falls silent, and when you glance back up to him, he looks nervous, like something’s on the tip of his tongue.
“That’s not… exactly true.” He mutters. “I never hated you. I’ve loved you since the moment I first saw you. That night at Saltburn, when Felix introduced us to each other. I saw you and I just felt… Something just came over me. I’d never felt it before. I mean, I was so captivated by you. I couldn’t sleep that night because I was thinking about you every second. And I was scared. I was so scared. So I was mean to you.”
He lets out a breath after his confession and you stare at him in disbelief. You’re barely processing anything he’s saying. Is this real? You feel like you should pinch yourself to make sure you’re not dreaming.
“And Felix never kept his friends around for long, so I knew I couldn’t get attached to you. I thought you were just passing by and that I would never see you again. But when you came back the next summer, then the next, and then you got into Oxford, I knew I was fucked.
“I just kept pushing my feelings down and instead of dealing with them, I was just… a bitch. I was trying to push you away and I was hoping that would get rid of my feelings. But it didn’t. And I regret it so, so much. I wasted all this time and I was being so stupid. I was just scared of love. I was scared of loving you.”
You feel tears welling up in your eyes and you can hear your heart pounding in your chest. You swear you can see tears in his own eyes.
“What about Sasha?” You ask when you finally gather yourself. “Really? You don’t know why I dated Sasha?” He chuckles a bit like it should be obvious. You shake your head no.
“I just needed someone to distract me. I got with all those people to fill the void. I mean, Sasha and I’s relationship was purely based off of sex. And every single time, I pictured that it was you instead of Sasha. I would close my eyes and imagine it was you. I think that was the only way I was able to get off,” He laughs. Your eyes widen at his words and your stomach flips. So that was why he was always moaning like a bitch?
“So when we finally… I freaked out. It was getting too real, and so I pushed you away again. And I said some shitty things.” You blink and a few tears fall. You don’t even know how to describe how you’re feeling right now. So many emotions are building inside of you, and they’re so dense and heavy, you’re not sure how to comprehend them.
“I’m so, so fucking sorry.” Farleigh seems to notice that you’re crying. “You didn’t deserve any of that. I’m a fucking idiot,”
Before you know it you’re off of your bed, crashing into him and sobbing against his chest. He wraps his arms around you, locking you in a tight embrace and enveloping you in his warmth. Your shoulders shake as you feel all the emotions pouring out of you. He holds you like he’s never going to let go. You don’t want him to let go. Ever.
“I’m so sorry,” He whispers your name into your hair. “I’ll never do that to you again.” He continues muttering these things to you as you let him hold you, melting into the hug.
You look up at him and his brown eyes are illuminated with affection. Something about him is different. He’s softer, unlike his usual cold and teasing personality.
He gently moves some hair out of your face and kisses your forehead, causing you to blush and smile softly.
“Why did we waste so much time when we could have been together?” You ask timidly, more of a rhetorical question. He sighs and tucks a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Cause we’re stupid,” He chuckles and you let out a quiet laugh. “It doesn’t matter now. We have the rest of our lives to make up for it,” He grins down at you and you smile against his hand that cups your face. He leans down and you tilt your head up to meet his lips. The kiss you share is slow and sensual, like you’re both trying to savor each other for as long as possible, like you’re making up for all those years of fabricated hatred. You can’t deny that you missed his lips and the way that he kisses, the way his tongue licks into your mouth. He pulls away after a minute.
“But I still feel like I need to make it up to you,” Farleigh’s expression changes and his voice lowers to that familiar deep and gravelly sound. You can see the lust in his eyes and you feel butterflies swarming in your stomach.
“What should I do for you, baby?” His hands snake down to your hips as he lowers himself slowly to the ground until he’s on his knees. Your heart races and you feel chills racing across your skin.
He looks up at you and you swear your knees almost give out from underneath you just at the sight. “Far..” You giggle shyly and feel your face burn red.
His fingers fiddle with the waistband of your skirt, almost teasing you and waiting until you ask him to take it off. But after a moment he’s pulling it down gently, and you step out of it gingerly and nudge it to the side with your foot.
He groans and his hands roam up and down your thighs. “You’re so perfect,” He mumbles as he hooks your lace panties under his fingers and pulls them down as well, almost hurriedly this time like he’s just that eager to eat you out until you’re sobbing for him.
Without any warning or time to prepare, his mouth is already on you, tasting you passionately with his tongue and moaning, the vibrations going straight to your core.
You moan breathlessly, your hand reaching down to tangle in his curly hair for something to ground you, and he seems to like this. He keeps letting out these small, needy whines like he’s the one getting devoured.
Every swirl and flick of his tongue has you whimpering like you’re in pain, your legs feeling unstable and weak. He sucks on your clit and you feel two of his fingers already inching their way inside, curling inside of you deliciously. It’s all too much and your breath has turned into short, high-pitched, desperate huffs.
“Please- Shit, Farleigh,” The third finger he inserts draws a long moan out of you. You don’t care if your neighbors hear you. You’re too lost in the pleasure that he’s giving you, with no drawbacks or regret looming in the future. When you think about how he just confessed his love for you, it only brings you closer to the edge of your beautiful release.
He laps up your slick, his tongue getting dangerously close to your entrance. You gasp for air as his fingers leave, only to be replaced by his tongue. You whine at the new feeling of his tongue deep inside of you, his thumb circling your clit. You feel your climax approaching, threatening to make you crumble and beg for mercy.
A deep and guttural groan leaves him as he continues fucking you with his tongue. “Far, I’m close-“ Your hand twists in his hair and you roll your hips against his face absentmindedly, almost like you’re stuck in a trance.
His tongue slips out of you, his nose nudging against your clit. Then, you’re gone. You feel like you’re floating, like you’re the only two people in the world right now, all your thoughts disappearing as that divine ecstasy shoots through your veins and melts your muscles and your bones.
He stands back up and takes you into his strong arms, cradling you as he brings you over to your bed, with occasional kisses along the way. You both pull away to tear off your clothes. You hurriedly pull off your sweater and your bra and toss them aside, hearing them land somewhere on the floor. Farleigh takes his own shirt off and his jeans, revealing that beautiful body you’ve subconsciously been dreaming of.
“Lay down,” You tell him with some sort of newfound confidence. You’ve never been on top before, but right now you want to pay him back and give him all that you have to offer.
“Mmm,” He hums in response, laying down on your small, twin-sized bed. You climb onto the bed and straddle him, feeling slightly nervous as his hands rest on your hips. You keep your hands on his chest as you grind your hips down onto him, feeling the form of him through his boxers.
He’s rock hard, and it only encourages you to continue to grind against him, rolling your hips smoothly and slowly. He whimpers and grips your hips harder, biting his lip. “Fuck, baby,” He moans, his hips bucking up slightly to meet yours.
You can’t wait anymore. You reach down and maintain eye contact as you slowly pull down his boxers, shuffling them down his legs.
It’s definitely intimidating, but you’re determined to ride him. He looks up at you. “Is this okay?” He asks, his hands returning to your hips. You nod. “Yeah,” You reply before rising up on your knees and adjusting yourself before sinking down onto him.
You wince at the delicious pain as your teeth sink into the plush of your bottom lip, his hands guiding you further down his length. A string of curses leave his lips once his whole cock is inside of you. He definitely missed this.
You place your hands on his chest again as you begin to drag your hips back and forth. He whimpers and whispers your name like a prayer. “That’s it, fuck-“ His grasp on your hips tighten and you can already guess that you’ll have bruises.
You rock your hips back and forth, creating a better pace for the two of you as he thrusts up into you. That pained look crosses his face again as you make eye contact. You’re completely enthralled by the sight of each other, a sheen of sweat forming on both of your foreheads. Your head falls back once you finally find the perfect angle that brings you such satisfaction, your jaw going slack. “Baby,” He begs, breathing heavily.
You feel yourself growing tired from the fast rhythm, and you slow down, still circling your hips on top of him. He seems to sense that you’re growing fatigued, so he flips the two of you over, switching your places. You’re dizzy and caught off guard, but you focus on his eyes as he takes over, slowly thrusting into you with long strokes.
Farleigh reaches down to grab your hand, intertwining your fingers together and holding on tightly. He lowers his head to pepper kisses across your forehead, your nose, your cheeks. He brushes some hair out of your face.
“I love you,” He mutters, his nose rubbing against yours. Your eyes widen at his words and your heart skips a beat. You squeeze his hand weakly and grin.
“I love you too,” You whisper back, feeling tears brimming in your eyes. “I love you so much,” You tell him, and he lets his head fall into the crook of your neck as he moans desperately, his thrusts faltering. Your other hand rests on the top of his head, stroking his curls. You both finish at the same time, whispering each other’s names and more confessions of love. It’s meaningful, beautiful, and sweet. Something you’ve craved but never experienced. That is, until now.
He collapses next to you and eventually pulls out of you, causing you to grunt just a bit. You lay there, your legs entangled with his and his arms around you protectively. He pulls the sheets over the two of you and continues to kiss you slowly with so much passion and affection.
Farleigh pulls away and swipes the tears off your cheeks, his gaze never leaving yours. You take his hand in yours once again and press your forehead against his.
“I could get used to this,” You whisper with a cheeky grin. He laughs softly. “Really?” He responds sarcastically, raising his eyebrows.
“Really.” You giggle quietly and he presses another kiss to your cheek. “I would consider spending the rest of my life with you,” He shrugs nonchalantly and you can’t seem to stop smiling. You don’t think you’ve ever been this happy in your life.
“You’d consider it? Woah, thanks,” You say with fake awe, gasping. “I’ve been considering it for a while, actually,” He mutters, running his fingers through your hair. “Have you?” You whisper, suddenly feeling sleepy. Everytime he holds you like this, it puts you right to sleep. You feel so safe and loved in his arms.
“Mhm.” His other hand rests on the small of your back and you feel your eyelids growing heavy. “I love you, Farleigh,” You whisper. “I love you too.” He replies, and with that, you drift off to sleep, with no cares or worries in the world, now that you’ve finally solved your problems with Farleigh. You’re so glad you gave him a second chance.
The next morning you wake up to Farleigh pulling you closer to him, nuzzling his head in your chest and groaning. You yawn and glance over to your bedside table, checking the time on your alarm clock. 9:42 AM.
Shit. You forgot about your class. It started at 9:30. Oh well. You groan and let your head fall back onto the pillow, rubbing your forehead. You pat Farleigh’s head, his curls sticking out at awkward angles but still managing to look cute.
You shiver and reach down to pull the duvet over yourself. He stirs at your movement and eventually, his dark brown eyes open.
A grin immediately appears on his face as he looks at you, taking in your appearance. Thank God you hadn’t worn makeup the day before. You were in your natural state, besides the messy hair. He traces his finger along your jawline and you smile, tilting your head.
“Good morning,” He wraps you up in his arms again, desperate to be close to you. His voice is deep and raspy. You’ll never get tired of his morning voice.
“Morning,” You reply, snuggling up to him and breathing in his scent. He kisses the top of your head and rubs your back soothingly.
“Do you know how many times I’ve dreamt about waking up next to you?” Farleigh asks. You giggle quietly. “Well, your wish came true,” You reply with a quick raise of your brows.
Suddenly, you remember what Lola said that one night at Saltburn as you think about you and Farleigh’s relationship over the years.
“Lola told me something a few months ago,” You start. “Mmm, and what was that?” He responds.
You inhale slowly. “She said that you were looking for me one morning and you came by our dorm, and you seemed very worried about me,” You smile at the thought, knowing what you know now.
“Oh. Yeah, I remember that. I was always worried sick about you. Whether you got home after a night out, if you drank too much, if some guy took advantage of you…” He trails off and sighs.
“Really?!” You ask, gazing up at him in shock. “You’re so confusing,” You let out a breathy laugh and shake your head.
“Do you remember our first night at Oxford? The very first party we went to?” He asks. You nod. He fiddles with a strand of your hair.
“After our little… argument, I stayed away from you the rest of the night. But then it was getting late, and I couldn’t find you, and I didn’t know if you knew the way back to your dorm. When I went into the bathroom I found you passed out on the floor. Black out drunk.” He explains, his voice soft.
“Anyone could have found you, or taken advantage of you. So I picked you up and carried you back to your dorm and tucked you into your bed.” Your eyes widen as your brain registers his words. Lola never told you about that.
“And when we were talking that night on the steps outside at Saltburn when we couldn’t sleep, the first summer you were there, you fell asleep on my shoulder. So I carried you up to your room.”
It’s silent for a minute as you process this. Was it a common theme for Farleigh to carry you to your bed when you were passed out?
“I never knew you cared that much.” You whisper, reaching up to play with one of his curls. “I don’t think I knew, either.” He mumbles.
You kiss him, slowly and gently, smiling against his lips. He grins, breaking the kiss, before holding the back of your head and guiding you back to him.
And you really believe that in this moment, you could die happy. You want to spend the rest of your life with him. The hot August nights, the freezing December mornings, the summer days under cerulean skies. The good days and the bad days. You can’t even remember how it felt to hate Farleigh. Every single trace of dislike for him is gone, erased completely from your heart. All that’s left is a love too strong to comprehend.

Powder covered your hands by the time the radio next to you came to life. Last time that radio came on, Dr. Grace Augustine had, very heatedly, called on you to fix one of the link units. Some genius had thought it was a good idea to kick at it in anger, knocking a few wires loose. Didn’t do any real damage but that guy never slipped into another link unit again. He’d have Grace to thank for that. And his temper.
That had been months ago. You hadn’t been back in Hell’s Gate since then.
Surprisingly enough, it was Trudy. “Hey, Doc. Mind comin’ to look at one of the computers in the lab? I think one of those science geeks broke a monitor or somethin’.”
Without looking up from your work, you reply, “Then buy a new one. My job is to fix shit, not consult about some stupid monitor.”
There were muffled voices further away as the radio cut in and out a few times. Seconds later, Trudy finally spoke again, “Uh, my bad, it’s not a monitor. It’s some….uh…power box, I guess. Glitched out on the geeks, now they don’t have power in a few of the computers.”
It took a moment for you to respond. Both because of the weak radio signal in the middle of the forest and because you had to take a few moments to program your newly robotic arm helper to finish off your new invention, which you had been working on for nearly half a year now. Project Pandora is what you called it.
“Trudy,” you finally say, picking up the radio and pushing the chair away from the desk and toward the small window on the other side of the little space, “why are you, a pilot no less, asking me about computers in a lab?”
There is a hesitant silence on the other end. But after listening closely, you realized there was another muffled conversation going on further away, one that the radio couldn’t really pick up.
Eventually, Trudy’s voice reached the radio again. “I told you she’d see right through it.” It sounded as if she was talking to someone and that someone was muttering something further away from the radio. Trudy sighed before continuing, “Look, Doc. I’m gonna be blunt with you. Parker’s too much of a pussy to do it himself so he got me in here to reach you.”
You clicked your tongue, “Why am I not surprised.”
“He’s scared of you.”
“More than Grace?”
There were louder muffles, almost audible if not for the static from the radio. “Parker wants you back at the gate…and to tell you that he’s not scared of you.”
After a while, the radio finally cut off and you sat there. Outside the little window was the forest of Pandora, your view for the past few months. And really, you would like to keep it that way from now on. Being away from Hell’s Gate has brought you a sense of peace and a sense of forgetting. Although, the forgetting was harder said than done.
No matter what you did, there was nothing that could make you forget what these humans were doing to Pandora, what they planned to do, what they already had done. It was a bunch of bullshit really. The RDA complained that they weren’t making any progress with the Na’vi, the people of  Pandora, while at the same time attacking them and threatening to take over the land by wiping out the indigenous.
You had come here to learn about this species and quite possibly one day live among them, not take over. Which is why you separate yourself from Hell’s Gate after the incident. But it seemed no matter what you did to keep away from them, somehow you were always brought back in.
It had to be him behind it. That man was stubborn enough to keep you in his control just as you were stubborn enough to find any way to stay far away from that place.
“Doc?” Trudy’s voice came in through the radio. With a frown, you looked back at your robotic arm and the invention, deep in thought. “You there?”
With a sigh, you replied, “There’s no other engineers up there? Mechanics?”
“Most of them are workin’ on those AMPs. Parker wants you. The best of the best, you know?”
You frown, “Doesn’t sound as great as it did years ago.”
“Don’t think too much about it. You’ll be in and out. Then you’ll get to go back to your little lab in the woods and stay secluded like the hermit that you are.” Trudy teased in an attempt to lighten your mood. And you did try to smile at the joke, just a little bit, but the thought about going back, about stepping your foot back into that place, somehow he’d win.
“I could say no.” You try, even though you were getting up and sliding your boots on. “Tell him to find some other unfortunate engineer to do his shit.”
“You could.” Trudy agreed. “That would definitely make Parker pop a vein. But if we sent in someone else that isn’t you, it sure as hell wouldn’t get done quickly or right. So there’s that.”
“Hmm, I’d say let them rot.” You grumble as you grab your mask and place it on your face.
Trudy laughed on the other end as you stepped out of the lab. The air was fresh on your skin but poisonous to your lungs. Still, it did feel somewhat nice stepping out of your stuffy lab for once. Being surrounded by beautiful forest. The beauty of Pandora still never failed to amaze you despite your grim attitude as of lately. There was something so special about this planet, something you never felt on your home planet, Earth.
You just wished the circumstances were different.
“You’re a genius, Doc.” Parker praised as you closed the power box.
“Is that all?” You asked dryly, rolling your sleeve back down as you began leaving the dark room.
The administrator followed after you as you sauntered through the halls, ready to go back to the forest and your private lab. “Yeah, well, I believe that should be all. I knew you could do it the best too, my guys are useless when it comes to this stuff.”
“Stop kissing ass, Selfridge.” Both you and Parker turned to find Grace waltzing down the hall toward the two of you. A smirk was on her lips when her eyes landed on you. “Tinkers! Never thought I’d see you come out of your little hole. How long has it been? Three? Four months?”
Despite where you were, you gave a small smile, “Hi Grace.”
Parker excused himself immediately much to your relief, going back to his usual spot, which was overseeing all the link units of the Avatar Program. You raised your brows at how quickly he left but you figured it was mostly because he didn’t want to hear Grace go on and on about the beauties of Pandora. Parker was the type of guy who only cared about what profited him the most. And the last thing he wanted to hear was how innocent everything was. Would make him lose track of the most important goal.
And for that, you despised that man. Parker must’ve sensed your dislike for him and found it intimidating, especially when it came to calling on you for favors such as fixing an electric power box.
Behind her were three other men. One of which you knew by Dr. Patel, the other two you guessed were new.
Grace crossed her arms, not bothering to introduce the two other males behind her as she spoke in a lowered voice, “Coming back this time around?”
You shook your head, “No. Just here for a small fixer upper. I should be heading back soon actually.”
“You sure?” Grace then gestured to the two behind her, giving you an exasperated look, “Could really use someone familiar out there. To the land and the people.” You didn’t respond right away which the scientist noticed. “Forget about Quaritch, you know you want to get back out there. Your avatar’s waiting—”
“Who's the newbies?” You addressed Dr. Patel, earning a glare from Grace at your efforts of quickly changing the conversation. It was something you definitely weren’t going to discuss here and especially in front of the new people who were watching the two of you a little too closely for your liking.
Dr. Patel smiled at you in greeting before gesturing to the two other men. “This is Norm Spellman, our new biologist for the team. Fellas, this is Dr. Y/N L/N, our best engineer at RDA.”
The tall lanky one stepped forward and offered his hand, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Doctor, I’ve actually heard a lot about your work here. Well, your mother’s work, I should say.” Grace rolled her eyes as you tried not to wince at the mention of your mother. But of course, Norm didn’t notice and kept going, “Also, very sorry for your loss. Your mother was a brilliant mind, the best of our kind—”
“Alright, Spellman.” Grace gave him a pointed look before nodding over to the man in the wheelchair, “You remember Tom Sully? Well, this is his worse half, Jake Sully. He’s unfortunately replacing Tom in the program.”
“Thank you for that, Gracie.” Jake retorted just as quickly.
“Fuck off.” Grace glared and nudged your side. “Ignore him, I do.”
Yes, you did hear about this. Tom’s unfortunate death led them to scramble for a quick replacement. You never met Tom yourself so you never had much of an attachment to him. Neither did Grace but you could tell that wasn’t the only thing annoying her. If you had to guess, Jake was probably drastically different from his late brother and Grace didn’t have much patience for that.
Still, you offered him a kind smile. “Ma’am.” He nodded to you, offering his own hand which you shook.
“Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Sully.” You glanced from a pensive Grace to Jake. “I imagine you know a lot about the program similar to your brother.”
Jake tilted his head, “I watched a Netflix special once.”
Grace scowled, Dr. Patel coughed to cover a smile, and Norm shifted on his feet awkwardly, watching the two of them.
You found yourself grinning for the first time in a while., “I don’t know, Augustine. I kind of like him. “
Grace rolled her eyes, “Whatever. We’re heading over to the link units. It’s about time the two of you get acquainted with your avatar form.” She then addressed you but in Na’vi surprisingly. “And when will you bring out yours? Don’t try to change the subject this time, Tinkers.”
Feeling Jake’s curious and confused gaze on the two of you, you answer in a quick hiss, “Drop it.” Then you turned to Jake and smiled, “S’ nice to meet you, Mr. Sully—”
“Jake.” He nodded toward you with a little smile of his own. “You can call me Jake.”
Your smile grew, “Alright, Jake. Welcome to Pandora.” She pointed at Grace with her thumb, “Don’t let her ruin the experience, yeah? She can be a little twitchy sometimes.”
“Go back to your hole, Tinkers!” Grace called over her shoulder as she continued down  the hall with Norm and Dr. Patel following after her.
“Right up your ass, Augustine!” You shot back with a smirk before sending Jake a wink.
Jake, despite his previous stoic expression, found himself grinning at you. “Nice to meet you, L/N.”
“Y/N.” You corrected, moving around him to head the opposite direction. “Or Doc, either way, don’t be so formal. Especially with me.”
He nodded, “I’ll make sure to remember that.”
With that, you watched as he rolled away in the direction the others went. Once the company was gone, your shoulders sagged a bit, slightly exhausted from the small interaction and because of the busy environment of Hell’s Gate as you made your way out of it.
Just as you were about to reach outside and grab your mask, one of the soldiers, Wainfleet, blocked your exit while sitting in one of those AMPs.
“Doc! Leaving so soon?” He grinned down at you.
“Move, dipshit.” You say bluntly, gripping the mask in your hands while glaring up at him.
He shrugged, grinning cockily down at her. “Can’t do that, Doc. Colonel heard you crawled out of your little hole you’ve been hiding in the past few months. He wants to see you.”
“Tell him to eat shit, ya know, like in all the messages I replied to.”
When you tried going around him, he stepped in your way, aggravating you more.
“Look, cupcake. We could either do this the easy way or the hard way. Easy way, you go and see Colonel yourself or hard way I drag your tiny ass over there.”
At this point, the more you gripped at the mask, the more it was possible it could break in your grasp. So you hooked your mask back onto your belt, seething eyes never leaving Wainfleet. It was possible to shut down the AMPs in your current height. You’d done it before but it was with someone who lacked experience controlling those things.
Wainfleet on the other hand was often training himself in them, which would lead to a more difficult and quite possible deadly attempt at escape.
Which meant, unfortunately, you didn’t have much of a choice.
With your dignity burying itself into the ground, you followed Wainfleet further into the Armor Bay where multiple more AMPs were lined up along with the ships and planes the pilots controlled.
When you arrived at the small gym room where Quaritch was currently benching, Wainfleet left you alone but you didn’t move to further enter the room. All you did was scowl and stand in the doorway with crossed arms, waiting for him to acknowledge you.
And you knew he knew you were there.
“I was wondering when we’d get the chance to talk again.” Quaritch finally said, putting down the weights as he sat up. He grabbed a towel next to him and began wiping the sweat off his sweat. “Are you finally done with your tantrum?”
He wanted you to snap, rise to the provoking. But you remained silent, your jaw clenching just a bit as your eyes narrowed in on him. Quaritch was watching you closely as well, probably waiting for you to react.
“Ah, the silent treatment. Guess I should’ve expected that too.” He threw the towel to the side before looking up at you with a smirk. “Thought you made a vow never to set foot in here again. Made a whole dramatic scene about it too—”
“What do you want?” You ask simply.
Quaritch now scowled at your indifference or rather rebellion, you couldn’t really tell. “I want you to get your act together. I don’t have time for you throwing fits like a child because you don’t get your way. This is a mission, Doc, and your job is to—”
“My job was to help the people.” You hissed, stepping only a few feet into the room. “To build a connection with them. That was your orders. That’s what you asked me to do. And what does the RDA do? Fuck it all up by shooting a bunch of Na’vi, leaving them for dead!”
Quaritch rolled his eyes, “You’re still on that?”
You seethed, “You don’t even understand what you did! You would think thinking smartly would crossed your thick fucking skull—”
“That’s enough from you!” He barked in his Colonel voice. “Disrespect me like that again and I will boot you right off of this planet as fast as I got you on it, you hear me?”
“Do it then.” You challenged, hands shaking from anger. “You’ve had plenty of times to get rid of me. If you find me so much of a problem, why am I still here?”
You half expected him to keep shouting at you, yell at you into submission like he does his subordinates. But instead, Quaritch chuckled as he stood up. “Moments like this, you remind me of your father. Good man, acted just like you. Which was what made him the best soldier. Which made him a good captain.”
He was changing the conversation, he was trying to have power over you without being forthright about it. He had done this before whenever you tried arguing, it was his way of shutting you down without getting into a fight.
“You’re a smart cookie, Doc. And I know you’re smart enough to realize your value to this team. To the program.” He flashed his white teeth at you. “You and I both know I can’t get rid of you that easily. And I won’t. I made a vow after all.”
You narrowed your eyes at him, wondering just where this conversation was going. Every time he brought up that damned vow it usually was followed by something for her to do. A favor. Something to keep her distracted.
“So let’s put the whole past to rest—”
“I rather not—” Quaritch cut you off just as fast as you did.
“And focus on the current future. Have you met Corporal Sully?”
You frown, suddenly remembering Jake’s charming smile. “What, he’s your new little puppet now?”
Quaritch wasn’t phased by the comment as he sat back down on the bench, “He’s got promise that kid. I tasked him to get to know the Na’vi people and learn their ways, to gain information for me.” You scoffed in disbelief as he continued. “Since you’re so well versed in their culture, I want you to give him some pointers. A tutor if you will.”
“Like hell I will—”
“And yes, you can decline.” Quaritch began lifting the weights again, “And then the RDA can take your little secluded lab away, destroying everything you’ve worked on. I’m sure that would be smart.”
This was where you had to control yourself. Your reaction. Your anger. You remembered a certain project that you were just nearly done with. Something you had been working on dedicatedly ever since the incident. If Quaritch or any of the RDA were to discover it, you were sure you would be exiled back to Earth.
Or quite possibly killed.
“What do you say, kid?” Quaritch noticed your silence.
With a scowl, you gritted out, “Fine.”
From the bench, the Colonel grinned, “Good girl! Now we can really get to work!” He placed the weight back down and stood, “Let’s go tell Sully the good news.”
When arriving in the link room, you lingered behind while Quaritch approached one of the link beds that was just opening. Jake happened to be in that one as he sat up, immediately spotting the Colonel walking toward him.
“Sir.” Jake greeted, briefly glancing your way for a moment longer before turning back to the Colonel.
Quaritch nodded in greeting and gestured to you, “I assume you’ve already met, Dr. L/N, the best of the best in the Avatar Program.”
“What do you want, Quaritch?” Grace cut in as she pushed open her own link bed. She noticed the angered look on your face and raised her brows, silently questioning you.
“She’s going to be showing the ins and outs of the Na’vi, she’ll give you some pointers to better prepare yourself for the program.” Quaritch winked as he clapped his hand on your shoulder. “You do best following her lead, might keep you alive, Corporal.”
Jake nodded, eyes alight, “Will do, sir.”
Quaritch’s grip on your shoulder tightened, “Take care of our boy, will you, Doc.”
Carefully, you reply, “He’s in good hands…sir.”
Grace narrowed her eyes at you while Jake frowned, finally noticing your change in behavior compared to your earlier brighter demeanor.
Satisfied, Quaritch gave you another rough pat on your back before leaving you with Grace, Jake, and as soon as he came out of his link bed, Norm.
“Tinkers.” Grace brought your attention back to her. She gave you a meaningful look before speaking in Na’vi, “What happened?”
Instead of responding to her, you nodded toward the three with an impassive expression, “I’ll see you all tomorrow.”
You needed some time away, to calm down, to reevaluate some things. If only you had left as quickly as you had planned to, none of this would have occurred. You wouldn’t be feeling so helpless right now as you stalked through the halls, practically glaring at everything around you. At this rate, you wished that bastard dropped you back on Earth. At least you would be far away from this shit.
“Hey, Doc!”
A part of you wanted to just keep going and ignore Jake Sully when he called for you. But you stopped anyway despite yourself and turned to find him rolling toward you.  He stopped a few feet away from you, frowning at your guarded behavior. “I know I’m not well informed about all of this the way you’d like but I’m sure I can catch on fast—”
“Let’s get one thing very clear, Sully. I know you’re working with Quaritch. I know you’re planning on lying to them, gaining information for him to use or whatever the hell he’s planning. I don’t want any part of it.” You shoved your hands into your pants pockets glaring at the surprised man. “You’ve aligned yourself with a dangerous man, Sully. I hope you understand what you’re doing here.”
Just as you turned to walk away, Jake called out to you again, “So is that your advice then? As my tutor?”
“No. Not all of it.” You glanced over your shoulder at him and shrugged, “Try not to die, Jake.”

stay - chris sturniolo
summary - based on the prompt "stay with me tonight, please." where chris comforts y/n after she gets hate
warnings - hate comments, lil angsty
a/n - this one is kinda short but i like it so hopefully you guys do too
why is y/n here again?
i get the feeling y/n is using the triplets for clout
i thought we made it clear nobody likes y/n
lmao y/n really thinks she has a chance with chris who's gonna tell her
The comments came flooding in on the new car video the triplets posted, where I joined them as a special guest. It wasn't the first time I had gotten hate for being friends with them, but usually I was able to ignore it as there wasn't very much of it. But this time, I couldn't just ignore it when the majority of the comments were mean ones about me. Overwhelmed with sadness and anxiety, I stood up from the couch as I announced that I was going to head back to my place.
"Are you sure? Is everything okay?" Nick asked me.
"Yeah, I just don't feel good all of a sudden." I replied.
Nick and Chris shared a glance before looking back at me.
"I can get Matt to drive you home if you want?" Chris asked me.
"No, no, don't worry about it. I'll text you guys later, okay?"
I made my way out the door and into my car. I waited until I had pulled out of the driveway, but then the tears started rolling down my cheeks. Am I really that bad? I thought. It was only about a five minute drive back to my apartment thankfully. Ignoring the smeared makeup I could see in the mirror, I went straight to my bedroom and laid down, staring at the ceiling. I tried not to, but I picked up my phone and started reading more of the hateful comments directed at me. My promise to text the boys when I had gotten home was long forgotten as the sadness took hold of me, and I fell asleep, tired from crying.
Chris's POV
I thought it was strange how y/n suddenly decided to leave. It was very unlike her, and she didn't even give a good reason, simply saying she didn't feel good. I tried not to worry about her too much, but as time went on I just couldn't shake the feeling.
Our new video had been up for a while now, so Matt, Nick and I decided to check YouTube to see how it was doing and if people liked it. Right off the bat, we could see that it already had more views than we normally get, which at first glance seemed like a good thing. I watched as Nick's eyes widened at the computer screen, mouth hanging open. I grabbed the laptop to see for myself what made him so shocked. Scrolling through the comments, almost every one was about y/n. My expression quickly changed to match Nick's as I read through them.
"Dude, do you see these? They're all about y/n, and they're terrible!" I said, showing Matt the screen.
it's so obvious that she likes chris. im embarrassed for her
do people actually like y/n?
why would they hang out with a girl like y/n? shes not even that pretty
My heart dropped as I finally realized why y/n "wasn't feeling good".
"Matt, you have to drive me to y/n's place, right now." I said urgently.
Matt seemed to understand instantly. "Okay, I'll go start the car."
When we got to her apartment, I told Matt he could go back home and I would call him if I needed a ride. I grabbed the spare key from my pocket as I unlocked her door. There was no sign of y/n in the kitchen or living room, so I made my way to her bedroom. I softly knocked on the door, but there was no answer, so I slowly opened it. My heart broke when I saw her curled up on top of her covers, dried mascara on her white pillows. Without even thinking, I moved to her bed, and gently laid down next to her, pulling her into my chest.
Y/n's POV
I felt someone wrap their arms around me, and for a moment it startled me as I opened my eyes, but when I realized who it was, I snuggled deeper into his chest as I began crying again.
"Shh, it's okay. I got you." he said gently.
We just laid like that, with my head in his chest until finally he spoke again.
"I'm so sorry I didn't realize sooner."
"Am I really that bad, Chris?" I asked, sniffling.
"Absolutely not, y/n. Those people are just morons who aren't happy with themselves so they like to pick on other people. I know they upset you, but that's exactly what they wanted to happen. You can't give them what they want."
I let his words sink in for a moment. "So you read the comments?"
"Yeah, and they're wrong by the way, about everything." he said, looking into my eyes.
I realized what he was saying, but I was too tired to bring it up right now.
"Stay with me tonight, please?" I asked him.
"Of course. Let's get you under the blankets though, it's getting cold."
I giggled as he lifted me up to pull the blankets out from under me. I rolled over, and he pulled my back into his chest, as we matched each other's breathing. I sighed contently as he gently played with my hair sending tingles down my spine.
Just as I was falling asleep, I felt his breath as he whispered against my neck.
"I love you, y/n"

I hate you
Sakura Miyawaki x fem!sub!reader
CW: not proofread, caught masturbation, humiliation, mommy kink, bondage maybe? & overstimulation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I really hate you, you know?" "Then why are you under me?"
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚˚₊
You and Sakura were enemies hated each other for life. You didn't know how this rivalry started but it just did I guess. You guys were roommates sharing a house with all your friends. Your friends were aware that you guys hated each other, but they never seemed to care because they loved both of you.
Once again on a Friday afternoon you had no plans while everyone else did. You thought that everyone was out of the house but you were wrong. You pulled out your phone watching the videos Sakura had posted since she was a youtuber. She vlogged around the house but would always stay out of her way so her fans didn't know you as much.
You were clueless. Not knowing that you're starting to get wet by the second. She had posted a video on her workout and you're starting to get needy? Weird of you. You started to feel the wetness travel down your thighs so you decided to finally do something about it. Your hands went down to take your shorts and underwear off while the other placed down your laptop to the side.
Man you knew this was bad, but you needed to get rid of the feeling. Poor Sakura not knowing any of this happening, or did she? Anyways your hands traveled down to toy with your clit then inserting two fingers in. In, out, and in again making lewd noises. Then eventually noises started to come out and as soon as you know it you were screaming her name. How embarrassing.
Surprise, Sakura was home this whole time. You didn't know how thin the walls were but her room was literally next to yours. She pressed her ear against the door and knocked once. Second knock, no answer. Third? There was no third. She barged in like it was nothing and her jaw dropped to the floor. You didn't say anything but panicked and covered yourself with the blanket that was underneath you.
She scoffed. "I could hear you from the other room could you at least try and be quiet? What if everyone else was home"
You were just in shock. "And what were you even getting off to? I swear I could've heard my name yelled at least a thousand times."
"Lets check that laptop of yours, shall we?" "Sakura no."
"Why Y/n? I know you're hiding something, but what is it?" She scoffed again once she finally got the computer you guys were fighting for 10 seconds ago. She opened it and saw herself working out, specifically doing planks.
"Well what do we have here? You're getting off to the person you hate the most? So pathetic you are. Lets see whats under that blanket."
Oh my god you were dripping. Badly. Your puffy cunt was smothered in wetness. How embarrassing, again. She collected your wetness with her finger and put it back into her mouth. Damn that was hot. "Y/n do you have a tie somewhere?"
"B-by that closet."
"Stuttering before we even got started?" She went over to the closet to grab three ties and started to tie up your arms together, then tied down one of your legs to the bed, then the other. You were now fully restrained under Sakura Miywaki's touch. Could get destroyed any second now really.
"Fuck the foreplay, I wanna have a taste already."
She dived fully in giving you the best head you've ever had but you were so sensitive due to the other orgasms you gave yourself a few minutes ago. You were squirming so much you almost broke out of the ties but she held your waist down. She kept eating you out but started to switch and entered two fingers in and started pumping fast, plus starting to toy with your buds with her tongue.
"mommy! I-Its t-too much" She ignored you but kept going faster having you cum in no time. But anyways she kept going not stopping one bit, leaving you overstimulated.
"I c-cant take it anymore~"
"You can and you will. Shut up and keep still."
You reached your third orgasm in a row and she finally stopped. She gave you a sloppy kiss and said
"That was just the beginning. Don't you think you deserve a punishment for touching yourself?"

Hi, could you write some x reader stuff for Vanessa/Vanny with a fem!i.t worker! Reader? Fellow x reader blog, like your acc
dating vanessa as an i.t. worker
i literally have no idea what i.t workers do as a job (i’m so sorry😭) so it’s straight up my imagination about that job, hope it’s alright!
Tumblr media
navigation // information // masterlist
summary: just a bunch of headcanons about getting into a relationship and then dating vanessa
warnings: none i think
notes: i’m so sorry it’s so short, my brain is kinda in a rot but i wanted to post this😭
requests: closed!!
Tumblr media
first of all i think you two would meet when one of the animatronics had some problems so she called for an i.t. worker and well there you were (let’s just pretend that animatronics don’t have children’s bodies inside of them for the sake of this fanfic)
when she opened the door for you she was literally speechless
you looked at her with a smile and she knew it was the end for her
after a moment of her collecting herself she finally let you in trying to hide how flustered she got
you decided not to say anything about her state and just walk by her with a small smirk forming on your face
when you got to the stage room and started repairing the animatronic that broke she stood right before you watching you all. the. time. and i mean like all the time
finally when you’re done, she gave a small smile and a lot of thank yous, which you just gave her a big smile in return
after that, she decided to call you more often, just about stupid incidents, like when a camera didn’t connect with the computer or when something was wrong with cables from animatronics
every time she’d greet you with a smile from ear to ear and something along the lines of “i didn’t know how to repair it so i decided to call you” or “i didn’t want to make the situation worse so i just called you” you loved every one of the excuses she made
every time you were at the pizzeria, she was casually walking beside you or standing there, and just casually and of course accidentally touching your back or your shoulder
there was one time when she actually accidentally touched your hand and she freaked out about it, and you couldn’t hold your laugh at her response
she apologised immediately and you couldn’t imagine a cuter sight right in front of your eyes
you grabbed her hand with yours and told her that it’s okay and you wouldn’t even mind holding her hand
to say her smile widened would be an understatement, her smile almost exploded
she squeezed your hand with hers and gave you a calmer smile while looking into your eyes and saying something like “i’ll keep that in mind” giving your hand another squeeze
next time after that, when you showed up at the restaurant, she was waiting on you being noticeably nervous but you decided to ignore that
when you got to the camera room cause supposedly the problem was there you noticed a single rose laying on cameras with a note saying ‘there isn’t any problem today, just wanted to spend my time with you, while your office thinks you’re working’
you smiled at the note and immediately went out of the cameras room to find her, she was standing in the stage room definitely waiting for you to come to her
when she noticed you, she turned around to face you and let’s just say she was a bit more than surprised when you walked over and hugged her, holding the rose she’d leave you
that night, you two spend mostly on talking about everything and nothing, while laying on some tables in the stage room, pretending to be looking at the stars while in reality you were just straight up starring at the ceiling
when it was your time to go back to your office, she had the biggest pout on her face that you’ve ever seen in your life
you chuckled and while standing at the door you quickly walked up to her and gave her cheek a kiss, whispering about waiting for another thing to broke down
she was speechless at first, but when she finally came back to earth she smiled dumbly at you and promised to call whenever anything happens
as if you didn’t already know that she would
finally, when you’ve been there for about a thousand time, she finally got the courage to ask you out on a date
you obviously said yes, with a huge smile
let’s just say the date went incredibly well and it was followed by many more dates
her favourite must have been the oceanarium one, on which you both seen so many animals you haven’t heard before and then got matching shark plushies
before you stared dating she started showing up at your work, just casually brining you lunch and sometimes wearing a very different outfit to her working one
all of your coworkers were jealous of your “soon to be” girlfriend
before you guys talked about the big question of being in a relationship, she had to tell you about something important
she invited you to her apartment and told you about the whole vanny thing with her personality
of course you were supportive and assured her it didn’t change anything in the way you viewed her
she looked at you with tears in her eyes cause, let’s be honest, a conversation like that wouldn’t be an easy one for our girl and smiled at you with the most sincere smile you’ve ever seen
before you could’ve say anything else she grabbed the collar of your shirt and brought you in for a kiss
you happily kissed her back and even turned it into a more heated one
let’s just say after that, it was very, painfully obvious you two were a lot into each other
soo, after the kiss you two decided to officially be together
vanessa planned a picnic date to ask you to date her once again, more officially
you just laughed at it all and agreed to, once again, be her girlfriend
much didn’t change after that, she was still calling you to the pizzeria for stupid stuff but decided to only call when something was really wrong, not to bother you at work when she could’ve have you all to herself after work
you didn’t mind her calls but the thought that she stopped calling you for silly stuff and going all lovely on you after work was somehow melting your heart

Unwanted: Chapter 2, Unspeakable - Pt. 4
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Avenger!Fem!Reader
Summary: When your FWB relationship with your best friend Bucky Barnes turns into something more, you couldn’t be happier. That is, however, until a new Avenger sets her sights on your super soldier and he inadvertently breaks your heart. You take on a mission you might not be prepared for to put some distance between the two of you and open yourself up to past traumas. Too bad the only one who can help you heal is the one person you can no longer trust.
Warnings: (For this part only; see Story Masterlist for general Warnings) Language, Steve Rogers (he is not my favorite, okay?), Emotional discussions, Explosions!
Word Count: 868
Previously On...: You celebrated Bucky's new arm by watching the Hobbit movie. When you mentioned that one of your friends would let him do "unspeakable things" to their body, he immediately thought of Natasha. Why did that make you feel icky inside?
A/N: I'm posting this from a coffee shop, which makes me feel very much like a "legit" writer, when, in reality, I'm just waiting for my dog to get out of the groomer, and the coffee shop is a Dunkin' lol.

"I've been meaning to thank you," Steve said as he stood over your shoulder. It was about a week after your movie night with Bucky, and you and Steve were working a mission together in Eastern Latvia. He'd already cleared the facility of hostile agents, allowing you the time you needed to infiltrate the site's computer systems and copy all necessary files for extraction back to the US government’s counter-terrorism task force. It was something you'd done a hundred times before, and could probably do with your eyes closed.
"Thank me for what? We've done this dance plenty of times." Your eyes narrowed as you concentrated on the computer code, fingers moving almost too fast for your own eyes to follow. You had nearly done it- the breach was wide open, and the terrorists' files were all laid out before you. The hard part was over, now it was just a matter of copying them over securely.
"Not the mission," he clarified, clearing his throat. "I wanted to thank you for what you've done for Bucky, for being there for him. I... I know you don't like me and things between us haven't been the same since Berlin, but it means a lot to me, knowing that he can call you a friend."
You paused, fingers hovering over the keyboard, and stared blankly at the screen, not able to look at him in the moment. "I never disliked you, Steve," you began, slowly, choosing your words with care, "but you broke us. You had your reasons, I get that, and maybe, to you, they seemed like good ones, but you fractured our family instead of trying to find a way for all of us to work through it, together. The only reason we're even in this room right now is because, by some grace of God, Tony was able to put his ego aside and offer you an olive branch to come home. We might look whole on the outside, but the cracks are still there. And they're always going to be. They'll never fully heal.
"So, it's not that I don't like you anymore. It's that I can't trust you. Not right now. Because I don't know if you're going to break us again." Your voice cracked by the end, but you felt surprisingly lightened, as though a massive weight had been lifted from your shoulders, and you realized just how desperately you had needed Steve to know how his actions had affected, not just you, but the others, as well. None of you had wanted to be forced to take sides in the civil war between Iron Man and Captain America; it had felt like burning down your own house, but in the end they had left you no choice. You'd already had it out with Tony. He'd apologized in the only way a man like him knew how-- with a brand new Ferrari that you were too anxious to drive and an obscene raise to your salary, but you'd never spoken about it with Steve. He'd seemed too content to act as though nothing had changed, like he hadn’t upended your entire existence.
You heard him clear his throat above you and you looked up. He was looking away from you, his face impassive, save for a tic in jaw. You'd known him long enough to see he was working on holding back his emotions.
"That's fair," he said softly. "That's entirely valid, and fair. And for what it's worth, I'm sorry. I was so caught up in trying to bring back my best friend that I didn't realize I was throwing away my family." He stole a glance down at you and caught your gaze; you could see his eyes shining. "I'll do better, Pocket. I'll do better for all of us, and I’ll especially do better for you."
His words didn't heal the wounds on your heart, but they did make them hurt a little less. You flashed him a small smile of gratitude, amazed that just his acknowledgement of the pain he'd caused you could be such a soothing balm to your anger. "Thanks, Cap. I appreciate it." He smiled at your use of the nickname; you hadn't called him anything but Rogers in forever. “And, for what it's worth," you added as the computer began beeping, signaling the transfer of files was complete and your objective had been reached, "I'm grateful you brought Bucky back with you. I can't imagine not having him in my life now." You stood up and pocketed the flash drive that now contained 18 months worth of terrorist plans. "Now, what do you say we blow this fucking Popsicle stand?" You gave him a cheeky grin as you deposited a small detonator on top of the computer server.
Steve returned your smile and offered a flourished "After you" as the two of you made your way out of the facility. Once you had cleared the perimeter, he gave you the all clear, signaling you to set off the detonators. You watched together as the building imploded into a spectacular fireball. Your relationship may not have been fully cured, but it had finally begun the process of healing.

Break On Through
Tumblr media
Title: Break On Through Pairing: Harley Quinn x Reader Prompt: 6. "I thought you hated each other." "Things change." NR WC: 1408
"Harley please," Selina begged as she stood in between Harley and the door. There was a new presence in Gotham, one that required the ladies of its underground to band together in a united front. Selina had noticed several women being taken out, and now the group behind it was showing their faces. Not in a literal sense, but whenever a new woman in power disappeared, everybody knew who had done it. Selina didn't want to see herself or any of her friends on the nightly news after being brutalized by these savages. That was why she had called in Harley and Y/n, the two of them were the smartest people Selina knew, and they'd be sure to know how to keep everyone safe.
"No way. Nuh-uh. I'm not doing it. I am not working with that piece of work over there. She's awful Selina, absolutely awful." Harley could have gone on all night, but Selina was smart to clamp her hand over Harley's mouth, literally shutting her up.
"The two of you are the only ones I know who can break the psychology of these guys. We've thrown everything else we can at them, they have to be outsmarted. That's the only way they'll stand down," Selina said. It was truly the last defense, and Selina wouldn't have tried getting Y/n and Harley together otherwise. Harley hated Y/n, who had been just an intern at Arkham whenever Harley had started to lose her mind. Selina wasn't completely sure why Harley hated Y/n, but she assumed that it had something to do with workplace gossip or the like. "So, please just go over there, sit down with her, and see what makes those douchebags tick."
"Fine, but I ain't being nice to her. Not even a damn smile," Harley said as she shoved her finger against Selina's chest. Selina sighed and nodded in agreement, although Selina wasn't sure how long they'd be alone together before Harley broke her promise. Selina had seen Harley through a lot, and post-Joker, Harley was a slightly more stable and vibrantly happier version of herself. Selina wondered if it was anything like Dr. Quinzel whenever the blonde first arrived at Arkham all those years ago. Selina had heard the stories from Ivy about the bright faced and determined young woman who had been corrupted by The Joker.
"Whatever, just go," Selina mumbled. Harley ran off around the corner, but stopped herself before she reached the mess on the floor where Y/n was working. She didn't want to seem too eager, even if Harley was excited about getting to stop these guys. She had bashed in quite a few of their heads after watching them mow down a group of working ladies on the corner. Harley didn't indulge herself in their services, but they were good women, ones who had never passed judgement on her for any of her mistakes.
"What the hell is this mess?" Harley threw her arms up as she took a good look at everything around her. It looked like a good third of the room's floor was covered in various forms of papers. Y/n's laptop was sitting on the couch behind Y/n, occasionally being typed into whenever Y/n came across something familiar.
"This is my process. Stop judging me and do something useful," Y/n said without looking up from anything. Harley felt like she was in shock, both from the way that Y/n had just spoken to her and because of the mess on the floor being considered a "process." Harley was certain that it wasn't anybody's actual process to make a huge mess just for what looked like a few notes on a computer. How Y/n made it as a doctor rather than a patient at Arkham was officially beyond Harley.
"What have you got so far?" Harley asked as she grabbed an empty notebook and box of newspaper clippings with information about the attacks. Y/n rattled off some things that were obviously taken almost directly out of a textbook before getting into her own interpretations of the information and what the guys were doing. Harley would never have admitted it, but she was impressed by the things that Y/n was telling her. The inferences were completely on point and had more than enough information to back them up if Harley were to question any o them. "Maybe you're smarter than I thought."
"Well only one of us was swindled by a madman," Y/n muttered under her breath. The pencil in Harley's hand splintered as her fist tightened around it. Y/n looked amused by Harley's reaction, as if she was playing with her. Finally, it clicked for Harley why Y/n had been fired from Arkham.
"You're a psychopath, aren't you? Just a little too dangerous to be herding the rest of us around. I don't think I've ever met anyone who was enough of a wacko to get turned away from the looniest of looney bins," Harley teased. "And they put that on your file so you couldn't go nowhere else. Ha, you got stuck in Gotham with the rest of us!"
"Why don't you keep over there to your notes and I'll keep to mine. I'd hate for you to learn the real reason I got booted from the staff," Y/n said. Her voice had taken on a dangerous tone, one that Harley hadn't thought the woman to be capable of. They stayed to themselves for a few more hours, but Harley couldn't help herself and just had to tease Y/n a little more. The punch had come without a warning on Y/n's part. Harley hadn't even noticed Y/n stand up or walk over. She just felt the fist connect with her face. Y/n was sitting back down before Harley registered what had happened. There was blood, more blood than Harley thought was even in her face.
"Damn, that's one hell of a right hook," Harley said as she used the bottom of her shirt to soak up some of the blood. Y/n simply got up and grabbed Harley something to drink as the color started to drain from Harley's face. The two of them found themselves sat down on the floor next to each other. Neither of them said anything as Y/n flipped through the notes that Harley had taken so far and Harley tried stopping the blood from pouring out of her nose. "You know, I don't take kindly to people smacking me around any more."
"Admittedly, that wasn't very mature, but it did sort of feel good. You were starting to get on my nerves," Y/n said flatly. Harley wasn't sure why, but she found something humorous about their situation.
"Good, you should stand up for yourself. Especially in times like these," Harley reasoned. The two of them chatted absentmindedly for a little while longer until their exhaustion got the best of them. Harley tried insisting that Y/n take the couch, but Y/n gave it up because she felt bad about punching Harley in the face. That was how the two of them ended up laying down cuddled up together on the floor with a throw blanket just barely both of their bodies. That was how Selina had found the two of them, and once Y/n had left to get back to her own place, Selina decided to question Harley about their night.
"What was that about? I thought you hated each other." Selina didn't bother to hide her amusement at finding the two of them cuddled up together. Y/n wasn't the cuddling type, and Selina knew just how terrible that woman's bedside manner could be. Harley must have done something very special to convince Y/n to cuddle up with her like that.
"Things change. I dunno," Harley answered. Selina narrowed her eyes at Harley, and slowly, Harley began to crack. "Okay, okay! I think she's cute, and maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with knowing that she can take care of herself. I like that in a woman, someone like me needs to be kept on the straight and narrow sometimes."
"Well, you should ask her out then," Selina said happily. Harley mulled the thought over, completely overlooking the possibility that Selina had used their situation as a means to play matchmaker.

Part 3 - Part 4
...(Y/N) responded, laying her bag at her feet and saying, "You could never say no to me."
Those seven words caused Larissa to tap her nails onto her desk, that familiar phrase got the two of them into so much trouble when they were students - she couldn't help but allow a wicked grin to start forming on her face. "No, I suppose not. We were quite the pair back then," she said to the woman sitting in front of her desk, who replied with an uncertain, "Yes, we were weren't we?" They were in a difficult situation because neither of the women ever imagined meeting the other again. However, after so many years, here they were, face to face. Larissa had the power to decide what would happen to them. She could simply reject (Y/N)'s application and send her on her way, ignoring the old, unresolved problems she wanted to stay away from. Alternatively, she could accept the application and gain a friend on the staff in whom she could confide after they cut the BS and discussed what had happened. The choice was challenging, to put it mildly. "So..." (Y/N) said, breaking the awkward silence between them, "Should we go ahead with the interview?" The million-dollar smile returned to Larissa's face as she nodded. She decided that any unresolved issues between them could wait for now. She straightened her position on the chair and cleared her throat, slinking her manicured hands onto her computer and turning it on- opening the mail app to find (Y/N)'s qualifications that should have been sent to her beforehand. Larissa continued, maintaining the interview's formality, "Okay Professor Addams, let's get started."
They had reached the halfway point of the interview, and (Y/N) had expertly and accurately responded to each question, from classifying claw-litative data to the history of sociopathy. This only made Larissa's predicament worse. Surely, as a principal, she had a duty to hire someone with (Y/N)'s level of qualifications. "Well, it's clear that you have a wide range of skills and are very qualified... Welcome to the Nevermore team," Larissa said, quickly closing her laptop as she focused all of her attention on the woman in front of her, her eyes sweeping her from head to toe. (Y/N) noticed the principal’s wandering eyes, and sent a friendly wink once their eyes met once again- even if Larissa was her boss now, they still had a history. “Great,” she said, after winking, a smile creeping onto her face at the principal's flustered face, “Where will I be stationed?”. (Y/N) was ecstatic to begin her new job and have the opportunity to mould the minds of future generations of outcasts, but she was also ecstatic to be around the staff, the majority of whom were her old friends. Clearly aware of (Y/N)'s excitement, Larissa stood back up and moved closer to the new professor. Even though they pretended they didn't want to see each other again, the two women briefly shared a warm smile. The person who broke the shared expression was Larissa, who stood directly in front of (Y/N) while she was seated. Larissa was so tall over the woman's sitting position that (Y/N) had to tilt her head up to face Larissa. The principal simply knelt down slightly, which caused the new professor's breath to falter- almost as if she were out of breath. But when Larissa picked up the bag off the ground and firmly held it in her right hand, her excitement began to fade. “I’ll escort you to the quarters, I’m afraid we don’t have any single rooms open. So you’ll have to stay with me for now,” Larissa said with grace as she began to walk to the door regardless of the other woman’s response. (Y/N) hurriedly walked in the direction of Larissa, trying to keep up with the woman who was moving much more quickly than she was. “I’m not complaining.” She said in a hurried tone, as the two of them left the office and walked through the hallways side by side. (Y/N) found herself once more staring at the pictures of the alumni that were displayed in glass frames throughout the dimly lit, soggy hallways and immortalised for all time, leaving legacies of hundreds on the walls. When she saw a picture of herself and Larissa posing proudly and beaming for the Nevermore book club picture, she chuckled. “What made you so joyful?” Larissa questioned inquisitively: Surely (Y/N) wasn't that thrilled to be back? But when she followed the other woman's line of reasoning, she found the solution. “Oh.” She spoke softly while grinning as she recalled how they had founded the club. Despite being the only two people there, they always had a blast. But during their final meeting, they got into a rambling argument that caused (Y/N)'s disappearance after graduation. “We’re going to lose time dawdling over the past.” More firmly than she meant to, Larissa spoke. “oh, sorry.” Was all that (Y/N) could muster, hurt over Weems' abrupt rejection of their photo, suggesting that perhaps their relationship had changed for the worse. Larissa didn't say anything, just nodded and motioned for the professor to follow. They walked on in silence, with only the murmur of giggling students as background noise. Many of them gave (Y/N) curious looks, while others gave the pair a smug grin as they whispered among themselves. Larissa simply continued to the teachers' dorms, her heels clicking loudly on the stone floors beneath her, amplified by (Y/N)'s heeled boots. It appeared that she had learned to tune out the students' whispers, probably as a result of her many years serving as the academy's principal. She abruptly stopped moving and spun around to face the woman following her.
As a result of her abrupt stop, (Y/N) almost crashed into the tall woman in front of her. Instead, she simply looked at her with an awkward smile, her clumsiness made Larissa chuckle. “We’ve reached.” She said with an opening of the dark brown door behind her. The room itself was fairly large and fully wooden- not practical for a fire emergency. Larissa seemed to have settled down in the leftmost side of the room, as it was decorated with various light colours of cream and the occasional red. (Y/N) smiled to herself and made her way to the rightmost side of the room, and began to softly skim her hands over the soft blanket placed on the bed. The threads of yarn made a soft scratching noise as her long nails floated overtop them. She'd hum to herself as they got caught in between the threads, slightly jumping when the loud thud of her bag hitting the mattress of the bed next to her emerged. She was so caught up in the atmosphere that she hadn't realised that Larissa made her way over to her. "Prepare yourself." the taller woman said, not looking directly at the woman in front of her, "Your first class is in half an hour. When you're finished, make your way to the library, the staff is finalizing the plans for the next Rave'N which is in two days' time. Including today." and with this she forced a smile and left the room, allowing the new professor to unpack and prepare herself. (Y/N) looked uneasy, everything that went wrong between Larissa and herself was because of the Rave'N that took place during their school years. It was not something she was looking forward to at the very least, but it was something she expected- just not so soon. There was no use debating it, she simply sighed and grabbed her bag. Unbuckling the clamps and moving it over to the mahogany closet on the side of her living quarter; just by a hazy glassed window. She began digging through the array of clothes, the bag itself wasn't too large from the outside, but the inside was enchanted to fit a multitude of things; an old family heirloom. (Y/N) had packed every single clothing item she owned, this was her home now, for the time being anyways. "Cet air qui m'obsède jour et nuit...Cet air n'est pas né d'aujourd'hui" she began to mumble to herself, singing along to the marvelous tunes of édith Piaf, her hips slightly swaying to the make-believe music. She eventually prepared everything though, and changed into a different pencil skirt and blazer; this time it was muted pink, to symbolize her new journey. All the equipment she needed for her lesson was already in the classroom, all she needed to bring was herself. Her personal life could wait, her students awaited her, and off she went to make her way to the classroom for the very first time. Larissa didn't know why she got so worked up over the reminder of what happened during her years' Rave'N. She told herself countless times again and again that she got over the fact that the person she wanted to ask showed up with another person; even if they knew she was going to ask them. Here she was, sitting in her office after leaving the dormatory- in her hand was her old yearbook. (Y/N) must be in the middle of her lesson by now she thought to herself, humming a melancholy tune, maybe she should see if her teaching is any good. Maybe she'll do it in a few minutes, she wanted to stare at the old yearbook photograph in front of her, her manicured nails skimming over the person's face. It was quite a tragedy, what had happened to her, she felt betrayed. There's nothing worse than the hurt of rejection, especially when it's from someone she loves- erm.. loved. "Tsk" she muttered, clicking her tongue, "Goddammit Addams...". and she meant it. She still remembers how she was a nervous mess in the hallways; telling her friends how she'd ask Addams to the Rave'N. In fact, she was overheard by the person she was going to ask, which only cut her deeper when they showed up with someone else. Was her past love unrequited? The thought of it made Larissa furrow her brows and close the yearbook.
Yet, it wasn’t Gomez Addams she was referencing, oh no, it was (Y/N) Addams. Eventually, she decided that there was no use thinking about this anymore, and threw the yearbook aside, standing up from her previous seat to make her way to the door. the hallways were quieter than they were earlier today, most of the students were either in class or participating in various clubs. At least she wouldn’t have to deal with the giggling and gossiping right now, she had more pressing matter at hand. Her destination was the library, where all the teachers had agreed to meet to finalize some finishing touches for the Rave’N. Larissa certainly didn’t want to have the mood dampened, so she would need to stop avoiding the elephant in the room and confront it, which meant dealing with the issues between herself and (Y/N). The staff needed to be harmonious to ensure the utmost safety for the students after all, no other reasons. The library doors towered over Larissa, which was a rare sight to behold, they were dark oak wood and engraved with stories and tales from Edgar Allan Poe’s writings. Her hand grazed over an engraved drawing of a raven right above the handle, the embossed wood making a soft scratching noise as she did so. It would not be easy to deal with her problems, so she sighed and gently pushed the door open to find everybody waiting there for her. Surely she hadn’t been that late for the meeting? But she apparently was, as disgruntled staff members sat together on one of the library tables, their discussions coming to a hushed tone as Larissa walked in and cleared her throat. “Apologies for being late, I had some things I had to deal with. Student records and such” she said, the lie easily escaping from her mouth with a smile. She had a reputation to uphold after all. “No worries,” said another staff member, Ms. Thornhill, who was sitting at the head of the table, “We already went through most of the things..” she explained. Larissa couldn’t argue, she was late after all, “Perfe-“ she said as she scanned the table, noticing an empty seat. The seat she was supposed to sit in, “Where is Professor Addams?” She questioned, almost automatically. “Oh- uh” Thornhill stuttered, not expecting the principal to have a sudden interest in the new professors whereabouts, this was certainly interesting to say the very least. The confused faces that graced the rest of the staff definitely showed that they felt the same way. “She didn’t attend, said something along the lines of ‘I cant bear to relive it’” The red boot-wearing woman explained, “I have no idea what she meant”
Larissa scoffed, shaking her head, “Never mind then. Let’s just focus on finishing this work” and with that she wasn’t questioned any further by the rest of the staff. As they continued throughout their planning and discussion, Larissa couldn’t stop thinking about (Y/N)- the woman burnt into the principals mind like a paper on an open flame. The flame in Larissa’s mind grew larger the more she thought about the woman, about her stupid smile, and her idiotic ignorance in going with someone else to the Rave’N back then. She was supposed to go with her, she was supposed to be smiling stupidly at her. Not with some half-assed random person! Larissa was the one that was supposed to be slow dancing with her, smelling that gorgeous flowery perfume that she loves so much.. and the feeling of the other woman’s lips against he…. Wait.. was she still in love with her??? There was no way, Larissa thought, no, she had gotten over her years go. She just wanted their friendship back, yeah… yeah. And so she would attempt to salvage it, by confronting (Y/N) about her disappearance, hopefully they would learn to understand each other.
(Y/N) hadn’t bothered to go to the meeting. Instead, here she sat, on her bed- engulfed in the blanket she was examining earlier that day. She didn’t want to increase the awkward tension between Larissa and herself by attending a meeting discussing the very same event that drew them apart. But she didn’t understand why it did, why was Larissa so upset to see her with someone else? Wasn’t Larissa planning to ask her cousin to the dance? So confusing. Of course, (Y/N) had considered the fact that since Larissa and herself were sharing a dormitory, that surely the other woman would confront her about it sooner or later. But she wasn’t prepared, the topic of their separation was the sun to her Icarus- she yearned to get it over with yet she knew that she would burn up if she drew to close. She didn’t want to be on bad terms with Larissa, she truly didn’t. Yet the woman wouldn’t leave her thoughts, from the assertive way she stood when she spoke, to the small smiles she used to give (Y/N) when their eyes would meet across a room. Over time (Y/N) developed feelings for the taller woman, her heart was completely shattered when she heard that Larissa was going to ask Addams to the dance- yet (Y/N) never considered that the Addams Larissa was referencing was actually her. The overwhelming return of these feelings and memories caused (Y/N) to start tearing up, she hadn’t even noticed it. Her heart skipped a beat when she heard the knocking on the door, and her fears were confirmed when Larissa walked in, looking assertive, with a furrowed brow. She softly clicked the door shut behind her and walked over to where (Y/N) was huddled up, crossing her arms as she roughly shut her eyes, “We need to talk, and sort this-“ her words were cut off when she opened her eyes to find (Y/N)‘s tear- stained face, her expression immediately softened. She couldn’t never stay mad at her, no matter what she did- her empathy and love for the other woman overpowered any negative connotations she had with her, she hated it, but she loved it too. And with this, Larissa sat down on the bed in-front of the professor and softly said,
“Are you okay?”
————
I hope you liked it!!! 💕 More to come very soon, I promise lots of comfort and fluff in the next one :,)
All of these years of hurt just because of a silly misunderstanding from both ends!!🥲🥲

a game of cat and mouse
Sebastian’s heavy hand on your shoulder and warm breath on your ear still burned with his absence, and for every second you spent actually thinking about getting your supplies, or your classes, or precisely anything else, you spent 3 more seconds thinking about Sebastian’s voice, or your duel, or his wit that you felt you would never catch up to.
You felt--quite constantly, in fact--that you and Sebastian were competing for an unknown prize, continuously attempting to best the other in this war that conspicuously looked to everyone else like shameless flirting. The worst part that he was so talented at this sort of game, always managing to play the one card that caught you off-guard but never crossed the line into being too forward, too obvious that it showed you his hand.
After browsing only the necessary stores to complete Weasley’s shopping list, you practically booked it to the square near Honeyduke’s and the Wizardwear store, the meeting place Sebastian had designated. It was bustling, many people gathered around tables or sauntering between shops, enjoying the blue skies and the warm sun that warmed the skin of your cheeks.
A large smile broke out on your face as soon as you spotted Sebastian across the cobblestone square, leaned casually against the large tree with his legs crossed at the ankles. He seemed to be briefly skimming one of the potions textbooks, occupying his time while he waited patiently for you to come back home to him.
There was something so enchanting about that moment, you being able to watch him from afar. He looked so content, peaceful in his mind that was able to lay dormant briefly, not needing to work overtime to calculate just when to brush his hand against your knuckles or conjure a witty remark to stun you with. He was just naturally stunning, without ever needing to try.
At this point in the day, just the first day of knowing him, you’d already grown accustomed to the butterflies that awakened every time he was within 50 feet of you. You jogged lightly over to him, and as soon as your footsteps were within hearing distance, he looked up, as if he could sense your presence. When you came to a stop in front of him, he smiled so radiantly that you had forgotten the greeting you’d rehearsed on the way.
“I’ve finished my rather extensive shopping list,” you landed on instead, almost frowning at how you couldn’t immediately come back from the last interaction swinging. You held your wand up, proud of your immediate connection to what felt like the most stunning wand you’d ever seen.
He could sense your satisfaction, smiling, “Excellent.” The word just rolled off his tongue so simply, but for some ungodly reason, you felt your heart swell.
You didn’t bother allowing yourself the time to get flustered at his brief praise, and instead tried to show interest in him, too. “Did you get what you needed for your sister?”
You’d hoped that this would open a new avenue of conversation, but he didn’t open up more than he needed to. “I did,” he nodded. “I suppose the world is our oyster now,” and you held your breath as a smirk crawled up his face, “let’s see what mischief we can get up to.”
Sebastian saw you briefly glance over to Honeyduke’s. “Perhaps I can treat you to some desserts like I’d promised on the way over,” and there is a question, a near undetectable longing hidden by your smile, but it didn’t matter, because it was present in your eyes, too.
His smirk grew into an endearing smile, “Only if you promise to let me treat you to butterbeers at the Three Broomsticks afterwards.”
“I’ll keep it under consideration,” you pursed your lips, dangling the small burlap bag of galleons you found on the trail over between your pointer and thumb. “But I’m afraid one of us has a knack for treasure hunting and happens to be a few galleons richer.”
Sebastian shook his head, seemingly defeated, “I’m afraid your ‘knack for treasure hunting’ has very little to do with my proposal.” There was that twinkle in his eyes, and you knew that he had something prepared, as he always does. “Don’t you know that the gentleman always pays on the first date?”
You worked hard to contain your fumbling, internally swearing at him because somehow he always just has one comment locked and ready to fire. It was so difficult to try and play a game of charm and wit because he truly was the master.
All you could do was scoff, hoping that when you opened your mouth again, the most brilliant retort would fall out on it’s own. Before a word could fall out of your mouth, though, the ground began to rumble, loud thumps coming from behind the quaint village and exponentially rising in volume. As the thumps grew larger and larger, harsh sounds of crashes, breaking wood, and screams joined into the mix.
Out of seemingly nowhere, a fighter troll clad in armor glowing similarly to the dragon’s collar or Ranrok’s magic ran into the village, smashing stalls under it’s feet before launching into the air and smacking it’s large club into the ground before the pedestrians.
It didn’t matter to Sebastian that you had beaten him so swiftly and brutally in the earlier Defense Against the Dark Arts class--the single event that had him watching your every move with a close eye; Sebastian was not thinking logically when he put his arm out in front of you, fingers grasping onto your ropes as he shuffled to block your body with his. He acted solely on instinct, his need to protect overwhelming every sense and clouding every thought.
You peeked out from behind his shoulder as he slowly pulled his wand out, and you did the same, watching the troll’s line of sight slowly change from the adult villagers to you and Sebastian. The screams slowly got more distant as most of the villagers who were too scared to fight the troll ran for the exit, or for any cover at all.
The troll took a second when looking in your direction, as if registering who you were, but as soon as those few seconds were over, your eyes widened as the troll began to charge at the two of you. Sebastian flung at him with his wand, but it was to no avail. Only when one of the aurors of the village cast bombarda right at the troll’s head did it stop, going after the villagers instead of you two.
Sebastian’s grip on your robes loosened, his frame still blocking your body slightly, but he finally let go when he’d felt the area was clear. Precisely at the moment that Sebastian had turned to you, almost blushing as to excuse himself for grabbing onto you and forcing you behind him, a second troll came smashing through a house and now the pair of you were the sole targets, no backup to save you now. It charged at you quickly, but like clockwork, both you and Sebastian ducked and rolled.
There was such a simplicity to duelling with Sebastian, and despite it being your very first fight as a duo rather than opponents, the flow was seamless. The fighting ability and teamwork came naturally, like he was the thunder to your lightning. Sebastian used confringo quite a lot, which you’d noted to ask him to teach you later. You found your new power in some sort of powerful non-verbal magic, only discovering it out of fear and instinct when you saw Sebastian get corned by the troll.
Although Sebastian helped quite a lot, your newfound ability was what ultimately made the troll collapse, having one final box thrown at his head finally knocked the monster to his knees, and as Sebastian caught his breath, he glanced up to watch as you held your wand to your palm, a bright glow gathering before you threw a ball of who-knows-what at the troll. The giant shattered into shards, dissipating into thin air, and when Sebastian looked back at you, he caught a glimpse of a small, triumphant smile on your face.
He felt something churn so deeply in his stomach that he’d wondered what the elves had put in his tart this morning, but it only took seconds for the realization to cross his mind, and he finally realized what it was that made his heart feel full and his cheeks flush--pride.
Aurors and adult villagers all gathered around you amidst the rubble, Sebastian only standing back to watch as you were praised for your bravery. Jealousy was absent from Sebastian, and all his mind was filled with was your sly smile and the memory of his hand tugging on your robes, desperate to protect you without realizing that it was you who would protect him.
As an officer was congratulating you, all that was stuck in Sebastian’s mind was the terrified look on your face when the troll had him cornered, and how without effort or thought you moved to save him, power flowing through you with ease. For you, saving him had no contest in your mind and there was no second-guessing, no hesitation. It was instinct for you, but for Sebastian, having someone care so deeply with no reservations was so foreign that he didn’t register time passing until you were stood in front of him, having repaired all the buildings and broken stalls in the square. You’d also been awarded a new robe that wasn’t marred with scratches and dirt from the battle, which Sebastian recognized fit you incredibly well.
“Sebastian,” his name rolled off your tongue like a prayer, and a smile grew on your face as soon as he met your eyes. “I’d say we earned a butterbeer or two, how about you?”
He sighed dramatically, hoping you’d find humor in it. “It might help me forget that I was almost pulverized by a troll.”
Sebastian was quickly rewarded by a laugh that tumbled out of your mouth, warm and honey-like and after so long of simply being able to smirk, revelling in the satisfaction of you being so unmistakenly smitten by him, he now had to face that you’d called his bluff. There was something deeper between the two of you, and he could feel it when you spoke to him, “Not if I have anything to say about it.”
You grabbed out your small pouch of galleons, begging Sebastian to escort you to buy some chocolate frogs from Honeyduke’s before heading over to the Three Broomsticks. Just as you plopped the package down on the counter, Sebastian wordlessly took out his spare change and set it neatly next to the chocolate frogs. You froze, fingers still reaching into your pouch as you looked to him with furrowed brows.
He grabbed the chocolate frogs off the counter, smiling at you and then at the storeowner, before guiding you away. He opened the door for you and passed you your chocolates, “What’s some spare change in exchange for not getting wacked by a troll club?”
You scoffed, “Are you trying to bribe me, Sallow?”
He shook his head, smirking. “No,” he flung his arm around your shoulder, leaning into your ear once again. “You’re just incredible.” His warmth was engulfing now, and you were so close to the salvation of him really holding you that it started to make you dizzy. You felt ridiculous, childish smile and feverish flush taking over your whole face, and he was so close.
You felt like you were just about to close the distance, wrap your arm around his waist and squeeze enough for your hips to meld together when something in the tone shifted, your stomach dropped and the hairs on the back fo your neck stood up perfectly straight.
You looked around, watching a peculiar looking man wander down into an alley, and then you caught it, a glimpse of Ranrok standing, and he looked rather angry. Sebastian’s arm dropped from you immediately, the two of you seeking cover to eavesdrop, and this time, it was you who stood in front, and Sebastian’s heart fluttered at your innate need to protect him.
Your heart constricted, Sebastian’s confusion over the situation palpable behind you. Ranrok had sent the trolls to Hogsmeade in an attempt to get to you, underestimating your abilities by far. Sebastian felt even more intrigued by you than before, his eyes watching the side of your face closely as he tried to gauge your reaction.
You made brief eye contact with Ranrok, and you were so startled by the look in his eyes that you immediately grabbed Sebastian by the sleeve of his robe, only bothering to whisper a hurried “We should go,” before tugging him away and into the more populated street.
“Did they see us?” Sebastian questsioned worriedly, eyes scanning all around the street, your fingers dropping from his robe as you tried to hasten your pace, deciding it would be best for the two of you to hide out in the Three Broomsticks. “What was that goblin doing with Victor Rookwood?”
You mumbled something about a goblin named Ranrok and a rebellion, but Sebastian was barely paying enough attention to not stumble over his own feet, let alone try and decipher your ramblings.
“Ranrok?” Sebastian’s face quickly dropped, turning into one of harsh realization, “You mean the goblin from the Daily Prophet? I knew I’d recognized him from somewhere, I--” and his face managed to get even stonier. He lightly grasped your arm, trying to guide you to walk in front of him as he watched Rookwood emerge from the alley, searching the streets. “Quickly,” Sebastian muttered in your ear, glancing behind him and all he could think of was keeping you safe.
Sebastian practically busted open the doors of the Three Broomsticks, the attention of all the patrons turning quickly to the two of you. A goblin passed you on the way in, but you were so focused on trying to be inconspicuous you barely thought anything of it. Sebastian’s hand was still resting on your upper arm, bringing you to a seat. His arm only dropped when he went to pull out your stool for you, and you found yourself wanting him to put it back, to comfort you with his touch again.
You almost wished you’d find yourself in more danger when he was around if this was what it led to--his warmth lingering and his smell clouding your senses and better judgment. His hand reached up to his hair now, tangling in it as he glanced from you to the barkeeper to the door in rapid succession, repeatedly.
Sebastian relaxed quickly after Sirona started talking though, making brief introductions and offering the first two butterbeers on the house. You took a sip quickly, your eyes peeking just enough over the rim to stay alert. “I heard about the attack,” Sirona began, and the cockiest of grins creeped onto Sebastian’s face. “I’m glad to see you two escaped injury.”
“Thanks to this one,” Sebastian laid his heavy eyes on you, and you nearly rolled your eyes at just how smitten he looked, huge smile adorning his face. “Single-handedly took down a troll!” he praised, raising his mug high in celebration.
Sirona shared a knowing smile with Sebastian, as if she could read him like a book, “Is that right? Well done.” After brief conversation, she left the bar to attend to other guests, allowing you time to break open your chocolate frogs and pop them in your mouth.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Sebastian teased, noting your glare at him just a few seconds prior.
You shook your head, trying to finish your chocolate frog quickly so you could answer him. “Must you embarrass me with your praise everywhere we go?”
He hummed, “I’m the type to brag about my closest friends. I can’t help it.”
Just as you were raising the mug to your lips, nearly finishing off your first cup of butterbeer, the large doors creaked open to reveal Rookwood and Harlow, a much stubbier sidekick. Sebastian sat up straighter in his seat, looking you in the eye as you both hoped that the pair wouldn’t notice you. Sirona quickly walked over, asking them to leave.
As the tension in the room escalated, Sebastian’s face leaned ever closer to yours, looking you sternly with his eyes cloudy, filled with danger. You could hear Rookwood’s sneer in his voice, “Come now, no need for theatrics.” You looked to Sebastian as he watched Rookwood in the corner of his eye. “I’m only here for this one, anyway.”
You squeezed your eyes shut if only for a second, turning around and stepping off your stool, Sebastian quickly following you, standing as close to you as possible. If you’d ever glanced down, you’d see his hands in fists hovering over his pocket, his legs planted in the ground, like he was ready for a fight. “My friend is enjoying a well-earned butterbeer.”
“I only want a quick word,” and he tries to prowl towards you, head closer to you than his feet. Every patron stands up and draws their wand, and Sebastian, rather than tugging you behind him like he did in the past, steadies himself by your side and draws his wand quicker than anyone else in the entire tavern.
Your eyes leave Rookwood’s if only for a second, glancing at the side of Sebastian’s face, his jaw hardened and eyes stone cold. Rookwood backs away, still threatening Sirona as he takes slow footsteps backwards. Just as he turned, about to open the door, his eyes glanced back at you and Sebastian. He smirked, “Can’t drink butterbeers forever.”
When he left, you decided to return to your seat, grabbing your mug and finally taking your last swig. Sebastian grabbed his stool, pulling it slightly closer to yours before settling down, also finishing off his butterbeer. “You’ll be telling me about this later,” he stated matter-of-factly, and all you could do was let out a chuckle, silently agreeing.
You ordered three more rounds, your stomachs nearly caving in on themselves from the sheer amount of butterbeers the two of you drank. You talked about anything and everything--classes, Sebastian’s plan to duel as a team, his previous adventures with Anne and Ominis--you were chatting, snacking on chocolate frogs, and sipping your complimentary drinks until well after the sun went down.
As time passed in the Three Broomsticks, the two of you kept unknowingly scooting your stools closer together, upper arms pressed against one another, necks sore from constantly looking to the side. Even as the patrons came and went, the one consistent sound was the laughter of you and Sebastian, childish and playful.
Your fingers brushed, eyes barely leaving each other’s faces, and it felt like no time had passed at all. Only when you heard brief whispers about a curfew did you glance out the window to see how late it’d gotten. You almost didn’t want to leave the safety of the Three Broomsticks, remembering Rookwood’s threat that seemed to imply he’d be waiting for you as soon as you left.
When you got out of your seat and headed for the doors, Sebastian’s hand brushed over the small of your back so briefly you weren’t sure if you’d imagined it, but you saw his hand fall back to his side out of the corner of your eye. After you reached the crisp night air of Hogsmeade, looking at the twinkling lights that hung over the streets and the stars they were reminscient of, you never got that gut feeling you knew so well.
You walked down the street, returning to Hogwarts with Sebastian in comfortable silence. As you glanced down the street, you saw one Theophilus Harlow slumped over, sitting against a wall on the ground, fast asleep. Sebastian’s eyes followed yours, and he had to stop himself from letting out a chuckle at the sight. As you passed the bridge to Hogsmeade, far enough that you were sure you were safe, Sebastian leaned over to you again. “Maybe we can drink butterbeers forever.”
Your smile was bright enough, Sebastian noted, to compete with the moon. He felt rewarded by your happiness, and worked hard to contain the joy that felt like it was pouring out of him. “Maybe not forever,” you remarked, “but we can drink butterbeers together long enough to put the whole world to sleep.”
He silently agreed, but still felt the need to counter anyways, just to continue the game that he felt you’d both already lost. “The volume of our laughter might just be enough to wake the whole world up.”
You shook your head, finally ready for a response off the cuff, having learned from the best. “I’m sure the world has grown used to it by now.”
And finally, you decided to be the one to push instead of him, never growing impatient of the game but rather reveling in it. Your hand reached for his forearm, grasping around his bicep and holding it lightly. His eyes caught yours, his lips curled into a smirk, and you felt you could push further.
Your hand snaked down, gliding along his silky robes, and both of your hearts beat faster, in tandem with one another. Sebastian felt dizzied by your touch, all alarms sounding off in his mind, knowing that you were about to win this game you’d been playing. Your hand grasped his, fingers that had been chilled from the night air finding solace in one another. Your thumb rubbed circles on the back of his hand, toeing the line between harmless flirting and something more.
Sebastian’s hand squeezed yours, and you resisted the urge to hold your breath, only looking up at him through your eyelashes, lips curved only slightly into the smallest of smiles. The two of you continued the rest of the way to your common room in a comfortable and warm silence, pathway illuminated by the moon and the stars.

"The One Thing You Can't Replace" - Ex-Niji Version
AKA the closest I'll ever get to discourse-posting. But if you have quotes for Mint, Doki and the rest, by all means send them in!
Maid Mint: Another story I heard about myself... This one happened in Nijisanji. We had this boss, Mr. Tazumi, and I had a kouhai who went to our agency, Rosemi Lovelock. She was in Obsydia and I was in LazuLight, so she was a gen behind me.
Mint: So Mr. Tazumi was an asshole. And one weekend, he and his yacht decided to leave town, which you should never do if you're an asshole. And Rosemi decided to throw a party at the HQ - hooray! So everyone around Niji heard about it, and we all got up individually and said:
Quinn Benet: Okay. Let's go over there and destroy the place.
Mint: I walked into this party. Everyone I had ever met was there, and everyone was drinking like it was the end of the world! We were drinking like it was the Civil War and a doctor was coming to saw our legs off. It was totally unsupervised. We were like dogs without horses - we were running wild.
Mint: I walked down... I walked down to the basement. They had a pool table in the basement.
[Cut to Michi Mochievee, jumping onto the pool table]
Mint: One kid took a running start and threw her body onto the pool table and broke it in half.
[Cut to Kuro, plotting mischief]
Mint: Another kid found out which office was Tazumi's and went upstairs and took a shit on his computer.
Mint: So the party was going great.
[Chat cheers]
Mint: I'm standing in the basement, and I'm holding a red cup - you've seen movies - and I'm standing there, and I'm starting to black out. And I guess someone said, like...
Sayu: Something, something, managers.
Mint: And in a brilliant moment of word association, I yelled:
Mint/Pomu: FUCK THE MANAGERS! FUCK THE MANAGERS!
Mint: And everyone else joined in! Three dozen drunk EN children yelling "Fuck. Da. Managers." with the confidence of guys who have, like, already been to jail and aren't afraid of it anymore - you know, that "I served my nickel! You come and take me!" confidence. But EN children.
Mint: The reason someone had said "something something managers" was because the managers were there. So an Anycolor manager walked down the stairs and got to the bottom in the basement, and looked out over a sea of drunk toddlers yelling "Fuck the managers!" in his face! And he was almost impressed! He was like, "Wooooowww..." And then he leaned into his walkie-talkie and went: "Get the paddywagon!"
Mint: And my friend Matara - who is now a mother, this woman has babies - she grabbed a 40, smashed it on the ground and yelled:
Matara: SCATTER!!!
Mint: And everyone ran in a different direction. We all ran in different directions. It was like that scene in Rat-tat-touille when the humans come in the kitchen and all the rats go in different ways - we all ran in different directions.
Mint: I ran into the laundry room and I jumped up on a washing machine, and I crawled out through a window into the back alley, and now I'm running through the back alley and there was this big chain link fence. And I thought:
Mint/Pomu: I have never climbed a fence that high before!
Mint: And then I woke up at home.
[Chat laughs uproariously]
Mint: On Monday, I went to work, because that's what we did back then. And I'm walking into the collab, and who do I see but Rosemi Lovelock. And she says to me:
Rosemi: Hey, were you at my party on Saturday?
Mint: And I said no. You know, like a liar. And he said:
Rosemi: Things got really out of hand. Someone broke the pool table. Someone took a dump on Tazumi-san's computer. But the worst thing is, someone stole these old antique photos of Tazumi's grandmother. And our bosses are freaking out about it.
Mint: And I had that thought that only blackout drunks and Steve Urkel can have: "Did I do that?"
[She pauses as chat reacts]
Mint: I figured no, I wouldn't have done that. But I was never sure - until, a year later... Relax!
Mint: I'm playing video games with this kid named Dokibird, that we also went to Nijisanji with. A year later, we've graduated by now. We're playing video games for a couple hours. And then Doki says to me:
Doki: Hey, come here, I wanna show you something.
Mint: And she takes me into her bedroom, and then she takes me into a side room off of her bedroom - never a good thing to have.
Mint: And she shows me a tiny room that is covered wall to wall in stolen antique photos from Nijisanji parties over the years. And I said: "Why? Why do you do this?"
Mint: And Doki said:
Doki: Because it's the one thing Tazumi can't replace.
[Chat erupts into laughter and cheers]

SERIES MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"Take Romanoff to the medical wing" Stark ordered as soon as they set foot in the Tower "Bruce, go with her. Let me know if there are any changes".
Bruce accompanied Barton and Steve who were carrying Romanoff on a makeshift stretcher. They disappeared into the elevator.
"Is she going to be okay?" Stark asked turning around and facing Stephen. Stephen nodded "The injuries are serious, but as far as I could examine there was no neurological damage. With proper care she should be fine, but I doubt she'll be back to work anytime soon."
Tony sighed heavily putting a hand to his face and then looked around "For a moment I thought I would never come home."
Thor patted him on the shoulder "Good job, Stark."
"If you'll excuse me I'm going to take a shower and sleep for three nights straight" Sam said waving to Stephen "See you around, Doctor."
Stephen just shook his head. He was supposed to go back to the Sanctum, but he was still standing there waiting to see you. During all that unbearable mission he could only think of you. How he wanted to come home and see you smiling at him.
"If it's not to much to ask, Doctor, I need to get back to New Asgard." Thor said and then turned to Stark, "Keep me posted on Romanoff's recovery."
"So you have a computer now?" Stephen asked wryly.
Thor smirked "Better than that, I have a phone in my house."
Stephen rolled his eyes "Yeah, right. Super modern." He moved his fingers opening a portal "Have a nice day."
Thor walked through the portal and then looked back, "Don't forget to invite me to the party, Stark."
Tony nodded and the portal closed. He patted Stephen on the chest "You did really well there, you know, with all that magic. It was quite useful."
Stephen rolled his eyes "You didn't do too badly either."
Tony grinned "See, I said we make a good team. The mechanic and the magician" Tony said pretending to write in the air.
"We both know we're neither of those things." Stephen answered dryly and Tony glared at him and was ready to respond with something intelligent when Y/n turned the corner and ran towards them. Stephen's heart sped up when her eyes focused on him and for a millisecond he thought she would hug him, but then she hugged Stark who squeezed her in his arms lifting her off the ground.
Stephen swallowed thickly. There was something in his chest that he wasn't quite sure what it was, but it wasn't pleasant.
"You're here" Your voice sounded choked with the tears you were trying to hold back, but tears were streaming down your face as you cupped Stark's face turning it to one side and then the other "Are you okay? Tell me you're okay! " You grabbed his arms and kept looking to check for injuries.
"I'm fine, darling." And then you broke down in a desperate cry and Tony went back to hug you now stroking your hair and shushing you "I'm sorry, I tried to communicate with you..."
Jealousy. Stephen was feeling jealous. For some reason he wondered if for a moment you had missed him, or if you had worried that he might get hurt too, but you only had eyes for Stark and it was unreasonable to bother with that, but he was bothered.
He cleared his throat to remind you he was still there and then spoke in a voice more husky than he'd expected, "Well, I need to go back to the Sanctum. Call me for updates on Romanoff, Stark."
You stepped away from Stark wiping the tears with your hands "Doctor Strange... I'm sorry, I... Are you okay? America was so worried! She called me every day asking about you."
Stephen smiled. Apparently next to Stark he was Doctor Strange to you and not just Stephen. Interesting. "I'm fine. Thanks for keeping an eye on her while I was gone."
You nodded "I didn't really do much. She stayed most of the time at Kamar Taj. Wong was keeping her almost like a prisoner." You gave him a shy smile which made his heart jump in his chest. Stephen chuckled "Poor thing. Anyway, I need to go now."
You nodded and then frowned "Where's Nat?" It was Stark who replied "She got hurt… badly."
Stephen saw the horror in your face. "Where is she?"
"She's with Banner in the medical wing, there's a whole team of doctors taking care of her and besides, the doctor here said she's going to be fine, so it's bad, but no need to worry."
You exhaled heavily and then addressed him "Did you examine her?"
Stephen nodded "As far as I could with the few resources I had. She will be fine now."
You nodded "It was good to see you Doctor Strange." Stephen shook his head and opened a portal to the Sanctum.
"I'll keep you posted, Doctor." Stark said.
"Good." Stephen replied crossing the portal.
"You're coming to the party, aren't you?"
You glared at Tony "Party?"
Tony nodded "A victory like that deserves to be celebrated with a big party."
You looked at Stephen anxiously for his answer and he gave you his best smirk. "I wouldn't miss a Stark party." And just as he knew you would, you blushed and gave him that open smile he was dying to see again.
...
Natasha had two surgeries that afternoon. One to stop the internal bleeding in her abdomen and one to place two titanium screws in her knee. The doctors ran tests to check that everything was fine with her head, but just like Stephen said, everything was fine. When she finally went to one of the rooms in the Tower's medical wing you made a point of staying by her side until she woke up which didn't happen until 2am.
"Fuck...that hurts." It was the first thing she said. You got up immediately. She glared at you then smiled "Good to see you, Crazy."
You smiled back "Welcome back."
"Uh hm. Water... I need water."
You helped her drink from the cup and then gently hugged her "I missed you, Nat. Then you came back and scared me to death. Two surgeries!"
She gave a small laugh and then groaned in pain "You know I'm dramatic. Why go through one surgery when I can go through two. Besides, guys love it when women are in danger. I bet Bruce was here all day ."
You chuckled "You're right. He barely left your side."
She smiled "See, I'm always right."
You sat down on the bed next to her "Tony said things were really bad out there."
You watched Nat's face darken with some traumatizing memory and you rushed to say "We don't need to talk about this if you don't want to. There's so much I want to talk to you about."
She stared at you for a long moment and then smirked "Tell me it's not about Doctor Strange."
You looked at her slightly offended "Of course not. Do you really think I spent these three weeks thinking about him?"
She sighed "It is about Doctor Strange. Okay, spit it out. I hope there's something new this time, because honestly, it's getting pathetic, Y/n"
You looked at her slightly offended, but decided to let it go "He said he likes me."
Her eyes widened and you continued "And he took me to lunch the day you left for the mission."
Nat opened her mouth to speak a few times and then closed it again.
"I know you think he's too old for me, but I don't care, Nat."
"What about Tony? He cares."
You did not answer.
She sighed "Look, Strange is a nice guy. A bit arrogant, but he's a nice guy and if you like him I'll support you. But, Y/n, proceed with caution, please. Remember, he is more than twice your age, maybe you two want different things from each other and I don't want you to get hurt and I won't answer for my actions if that happens."
You nodded holding her hand "You're like the sister I never had, you know that, don't you?"
She nodded "I will always support you no matter what you do. Just don't kill anyone."
"Why not? You're the person I would call and ask for help to hide the body."
Nat giggled and then grimaced placing her hand on her abdomen. "Fuck, Y/n, I can't laugh right now, it hurts."
"Sorry" You squeezed her hand "Just... support me on this Nat. I really like him."
She sighed "Trust me, I know."
You stayed there with Nat four hours. You couldn't leave her alone. You talked about anything and everything that had nothing to do with the mission. Apparently, whatever had happened, it wasn't something Natasha wanted to think about.
It the sun was rising when you were interrupted by a knock on the door and Yelena came in "Hey, Y/n. I came to see if Nat... Hi, you're awake finally."
She approached and you took the opportunity to say goodbye "Well, I will leave you with Yelena, Nat. Need to try to get some sleep."
She smiled. “See you.”
"How are you feeling?" You heard Yelena ask before leaving and closing the door behind you.
...
HOW IS ROMANOFF?
You stared at the phone's screen for a minute trying to make your mind understand that the message was really from Stephen. It had been two weeks since they had returned from the mission and Natasha was progressing very well although she had to use crutches which she was hating.
You finally managed to type an answer that was actually another question.
MAY I KNOW HOW YOU GOT MY NUMBER?
You bit your bottom lip waiting for him to respond.
I KIDNAPPED AMERICA'S PHONE AND MEMORIZED IT.
You couldn't tell exactly what expressions you were making as you stared at your phone, but something about your face caught Natasha and Yelena's attention. The three of you were in the lounge on the Tower's hosting floor talking and basically killing time as you watched Tony and Pepper argue over who to invite to the party Tony was keen to throw even though Nat was still recovering.
He went back to typing.
SO, HOW IS SHE?
You typed a quick reply trying to hide your excitement as Tony and Pepper approached.
SHE'S FINE, SHE'S RIGHT HERE IN FRONT OF ME, ACTUALLY.
"Romanoff looks great, look at her!" You heard Tony saying and Pepper replied "I think we should wait another week or two."
Tony crossed his arms "It's a victory party, if we wait too long we'll be off on another mission."
Nat tsked "Speak for yourself, I'm off the radar for new missions for the next three months at least."
I MISS YOU.
You smiled from ear to ear feeling your face heat up.
YOU KNOW YOU CAN INVITE ME TO DINNER ANYTIME.
"Y/n, I'm talking to you. I need your help here!" You heard Tony saying and reluctantly looked up from your phone.
"Yeah, of course. You're right" You mumbled turning your attention to Stephen's answer.
YES I KNOW. WOULD YOU LIKE THAT?
You were about to answer when Tony stopped in front of you "May I know who you are talking to? Who is more important than me?"
Nat and Yelena started to giggle and Tony glared at both of them and then you "Is there something going on that I don't know about?"
Pepper stared at you for a long moment and then changed the subject "Okay Tony you want to have the party let's have the party. Is that okay, Nat?"
Nat shook her head "Are you really going to make me wear a dress with this horrible thing on my leg?"
Tony chuckled "You look great either way Romanoff, plus I'm sure Bruce doesn't mind."
You weren't paying enough attention to know what Nat replied. Your face was hot and you were still processing Stephen's messages. Was he really flirting with you?
WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?"
You waited for his answer that came right away.
YOUR GODFATHER PROMISED ME A PARTY. I WAS WAITING TO SEE YOU THERE.
You turned your attention to Tony "So when's the party?"
He stared at Pepper waiting for an answer.
Pepper sighed "If I can organize everything it will be this Saturday."
You couldn't  contain the wide smile that took over your face.
LOOKS LIKE I'LL SEE YOU SATURDAY THEN.
He quickly typed a reply.
EXCELLENT. I HAVE TO GO NOW, SWEETHEART. DUTY IS CALLING.
The pet name. That pet name never failed to draw a breath out of you.
SEE YOU, DOCTOR
You closed your cell phone screen and threw it on the couch next to you. Tony and Pepper had walked away still working out the details of the party and Nat and Yelena were staring at you curiously.
"So..." Nat finally asked.
You grinned "I need to buy a dress. A really, really gorgeous dress."
Yelena smiled “I think I can help you with that."
...
You were standing there looking in the mirror and wondering if the dress you chose wasn't a little too much. It was a strapless red dress with a heart cutout at the neckline. It was short and flared with a black bow cinching the waist. That dress combined with your hair tied in a ponytail, a diamond necklace and your tattoos seemed too much.
You sighed hearing the cell phone vibrate and walked away from the mirror. Anyway, now it was too late to choose another dress.
You read the message on your cell phone, it was from America.
WE ARE LATE. WE HAVE JUST ARRIVED FROM KAMAR TAJ AND STEPHEN LOOKS LIKE HE IS GETTING READY FOR A WEDDING. BUT WE WILL BE THERE SOON.
You smiled from ear to ear. You couldn't wait to see him. You responded with a smiley emoji and then nodded to yourself as if trying to encourage yourself and then went downstairs.
The hall was full, the music was loud. There were people there that you had no idea who they were. Some must have been Stark Industries shareholders, others were probably magazine columnists, journalists, in short, everyone Tony liked to invite to stay on the covers of magazines.
You walked between the tables getting too many stares which made you question again if you hadn't gone too far with the choice of your dress. Fortunately, you bumped into Thor, the first known face, who hugged you tight, taking all your worries out of your head.
"Hey, it's good to see you. You look beautiful!"
You smiled looking up to actually look at his face "You too"
He grabbed you by the wrist and pulled you towards the table where he was sitting with Steve, Sam and Bruce. "This girl..." Thor said pointing at you and the three of them  stared at you "She would be a queen in Asgard."
You stared blankly at Thor and then he took a sip from his cup and went back to saying "Singing is important to the Asgardians."
Sam nodded "Will you sing for us tonight Y/n?"
You shook your head "Not really."
Bruce disagreed "Tony rented a karaoke machine, he intends to get everyone singing tonight."
You chuckled "I'm going to love to hear you boys singing."
Steve chuckled shyly and then took a good look at you "Looking really pretty Y/n, expecting someone?"
You felt your face get hot. Was it that obvious?
"Are your friends from the band coming? Mike, that's the guy's name, right?" Sam asked "He seems to like you."
You shook your head feeling the air leave your lungs slowly. "I didn't actually invite them. No work tonight, just fun."
"And what kind of fun are we talking about?" Sharon asked approaching with Maria Hill right behind her. The two had apparently only left to fetch their drinks from the bar. Sharon sat next to Steve and you watched as he wrapped his arms around her waist. Such an intimate gesture in front of everyone. You wondered if it would ever be possible for you and Stephen to have that kind of intimacy. That is, of course, if he was really interested. You couldn’t really tell.
"So what were you talking about?" Maria asked sipping her drink and you shrugged "Thor was complimenting my singing skills"
"She's amazing" Thor said again and Hill agreed "Your show at the last party was amazing, Y/n. I'm addicted to your songs." Hill completed.
"I'm following you on Spotify" Sharon said "And I want to go to one of your shows. Steve knows that, I'm trying to convince him to take me."
Steve chuckled "Loud music and night clubs aren't really my style, but we'll definitely go."
You grinned "Well, let's set a date then."
...
You were extremely bored and couldn't stop looking at the time on your cell phone display.
You were sitting at the table with Pepper, Tony, Rhodes, Happy and Fury listening to them talk about the mission and about a new mission that Fury wanted Tony and Steve to lead, this one apparently would be on Russian territory and Fury was really disappointed because Natasha would not be able to go with them.
You kept scanning the room with your eyes looking for Stephen and Pepper seemed to sense your uneasiness because she couldn't take her eyes off you.
You had been surprised to see Fury at Tony's party, he never attended social events, but then you understood. He was there on a mission of his own, ready to deliver new work to those he considered to be the leaders of the Avengers.
After a while you could see that Pepper was uncomfortable with the direction of the conversation, but you weren’t paying attention to what they were saying because your eyes were fixed on the entrance of the hall, waiting to see Stephen who at that time should have already arrived. Deep down you feared that something had happened and he wouldn't come anymore.
"I thought Ms. Y/l/n would eventually become an Avenger as well, but it looks like she chose a more glamorous side of life." Fury said trying to get your attention.
You smiled at the old man "Unfortunately I don't have super powers, Director Fury, and I'm also too clumsy to fight like Nat or Agent Hill. If you saw me working out you'd be embarrassed"
He let out a rare chuckle, "Well, I'm sure you'd do well in one of your godfather's suits. Mrs. Potts wears hers on special occasions."
Pepper shook her head as she sipped from her cup, "It was a one time thing, Fury, and I swear I won't do it again."
"There is a prototype armor for Y/n, I'm still working on it." Tony said proudly.
You chuckled "I've already told Tony he doesn't have to bother because I'm not going to use it. I prefer my books and my music. Someone need to be ordinary in this family."
Tony shook his head "There's nothing ordinary about you darling, you're amazing" He put his arm around your shoulders and placed a small kiss on your cheek and only then did he really seem to look at you "That boy Mike, he's coming by tonight?"
You shook your head, feeling your face heat up when you realized that he made an association between your dress and a possible love interest.
"I didn't invite the band." You admitted.
"Why didn't you invite them? Mike seems like a nice kid, I think he likes you."
You were about to answer when you saw Stephen and America entering the hall and suddenly the words disappeared from your mind.
America looked beautiful in a cute pink dress, her hair pulled back in a ponytail, but your attention was riveted on the sorcerer dressed in one of the many Armani suits he owned.
"Y/n?" Tony was still waiting for your answer and you had to reluctantly look away from Stephen.
"Tony, Mike and I have nothing to do with each other."
"You needed to see the answer she gave the boy when he asked her out." Happy told laughing and you stared at him, glaring daggers.
"He's too young. And too stupid." You defended yourself.
"He must be what? 25 years old? Not that much younger." Rhodes said, deciding to intrude on the conversation. That was actually the problem with practically being raised in that Tower, all the Avengers felt that they were somehow responsible for you and therefore couldn’t mind their own business."
"I think I like older men." You said feeling a little brave, your eyes went back to looking for Stephen in the hall finding him standing next to Steve's table talking and as he rarely did laughing.
"You're too young to say something like that." Tony said scolding you "Besides, Mike is older than you, he likes the same things you like..."
You sighed in frustration "You forgot I just mentioned he's stupid."
"Y/n, you're exaggerating. The boy is hardworking. He studies, works in the band..."
"Tony, it's never going to happen, okay? Can we change the subject now?" You said looking back at Stephen from a distance and feeling Pepper's eyes fixed on you. When you dared to look at her, she was looking in the same direction as you, brow furrowed with concern, but you couldn't care less and as soon as you watched Stephen heading alone to the bar you stood up "If you'll excuse me."
...
Stephen scanned the crowded room with his eyes looking for you as soon as he and America set foot there. It didn't take long for him to see you sitting at the table with Stark, Rhodes, Pepper, Happy and director Fury. Stark had an arm around your shoulder.
"Tony's parties are always so amazing." America said envisioned with all the extravagance that Stephen was already used to, but which for her was incredible.
"Are we calling him Tony yet?" He asked staring at her with an arched eyebrow.
She just stuck her tongue out at him.
"Hey Doctor, come over here." Came Thor's booming voice.
The two walked to a table further away on the left side of the room where Rogers, Carter, Wilson, Hill, Thor and Banner were.
"Nice to see you, doctor" Steve greeted him.
"How is Romanoff?" He asked and it was Banner who answered. "She's much better." Stephen couldn't help but notice the tone of relief in the man's voice. If it wasn't clear to Natasha, it was clear enough to everybody else that Bruce was in love with her.
"She's not too happy about the idea of using crutches, but she should be down soon." Sharon Carter completed.
"What about you, little girl, how is life in a new universe?" Hill asked and America grinned.
"It's great. I like it here, all the differences are fascinating and Kamar Taj is so cool. It would be even cooler if Wong and Stephen weren't so bossy."
Everyone at the table laughed and Stephen confined himself to a smile, his eyes back on the table where you were. God, you were beautiful. Actually beautiful was an understatement. You wore a red dress that he couldn't see well from that distance, but your hair was tied back in a ponytail which was different from what Stephen was used to. He loved your air, but this way it was possible to see more of your beautiful face...
"Strange...?"
Stephen turned his attention to Steve who had asked a question to which Stephen paid no attention. "I'm sorry, can you say that again?"
America had sat down next to Maria Hill and the two had engaged in a conversation about how in one of the universes she had visited, people were made of ink.
"I asked how it feels to take a trip to another universe."
Stephen chuckled dryly "Not a good experience."
"He threw up." America said and Thor laughed exaggeratedly. "You humans are so fragile."
Stephen shook his head "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to get something to drink."
He walked towards the bar and asked for a shot of whiskey which he drank in one gulp and asked for another right after.
There was an internal struggle in Stephen ever since he had lunch with you before the mission. He was trying to convince himself that he shouldn't continue this flirtation, that it would inevitably lead to trouble once Stark realized what was happening. But on the other hand, he was tempted to take it further and find out how far you would go.
He downed his whiskey in one gulp and asked for a third. Double, no ice.
That afternoon you had challenged him by asking if he was aware that despite being Tony Stark's goddaughter, you were a legal adult and he was very much aware of that, he just didn't know what to do with it, how to proceed.
He wanted you, that was as clear to him as day, but the consequences seemed too grave.
He was too absorbed in his own thoughts to notice that you had approached.
"You look lonely. Need some company, doctor?"
He smiled and turned to look at you and his heart skiped a beat. Holy fuck, you looked beyond beautiful, you looked indecently sexy in that red dress. It was definitely too short in Stephen's eyes. He caught himself wondering how Stark let you walk around dressed like that.
The color suited you, not to mention it highlighted your tattoos. Stephen never liked tattoos, but on you he did. There were so many. Spread across your arms, your legs. One he was particularly fond of was a chest piece. A bluebird trapped in a cage trying to escape. He wondered if that was how you saw yourself.
"Stephen... you're staring." You said and then addressed the bartender. "A martini for me, please. And another whiskey for the doctor."
"I'm sorry... I got distracted by all this" He said gesturing to you. You blushed looking down at your dress.
"Is it too much? I thought you might like it." You said accepting the drink and taking a long gulp.
"Your whiskey, sir." Stephen accepted and turned his attention to you.
"I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. It was meant to be a compliment. You look beautiful, Y/n."
You smiled charmingly at him. "I got it right then. It's hard to know what you like, Stephen."
He had to convince himself that he heard you right. You were really saying that you dressed like that for him. If that didn't answer his doubts about your true intentions, he couldn't say what would.
"Red suits you. It highlights your eyes, your hair and your tattoos."
You shook your head vehemently "I thought so. You look very handsome too, Stephen. As much as I love to see you in your robes, I have to say, you look much better in Armani. Almost irresistible."
He chuckled taking a long drink of his whiskey and feeling the alcohol starting to kick in.
"I didn't get a chance to say how happy I am that you're okay. I was so worried." You said looking away from him. Somehow you could flirt with him naturally, but you couldn't look him in the eye and tell him you liked him enough to be concerned when he went on a mission.
"I thought about you, Y/n, the whole time I was there." He admitted. "I knew I needed to go back because I needed to see you again. It was all I could think about."
You smiled, your cheeks turning pink. "You say these things, but you still haven't asked me out to dinner."
He smirked finishing his whiskey and too impatiently, filled the glass with a wave of his fingers. He looked around subtly "Is this what you want?"
"Well, Doctor, I'm more interested at the moment in knowing what you want. You are a mystery to me."
He touched your hand that was on  the top of the counter "Would it be too obvious if we left here and went somewhere quieter?"
You looked at him in surprise, but nodded in agreement "Not if I go first."
He nodded as he watched you walk away. God, that dress was doing things to him. He drank the rest of the whiskey, put the glass on the counter and walked out after you. He should have thought that in fact it was pretty obvious to anyone who could eventually be paying attention to the two of you, but he couldn't care less at that point. Maybe it was the alcohol that had made him so reckless.
You took the elevator and went up to the tower's hosting floor. Tony Stark could be irritating, but Stephen couldn't deny that he was extremely generous. There lived most of the Avengers who made the team their family. Those who didn't live there, lived in the compound in the country side of the city.
Stephen watched you turn on the lights and flop down on the huge sofa in the center of the room.
"Much better, don't you think?" You asked kicking off the extremely high heels you were wearing and putting your feet up on the sofa, making yourself comfortable. You could still hear the music coming from the lower floor.
"Yes. I used to like parties, but that was a long time ago." He said putting both hands in his pockets. He continued to stand, resisting the urge to sit down next to you.
"But you've been coming to Tony's parties a lot recently, for someone who doesn't like parties it's a little contradictory."
He smirked knowing full well what you were suggesting. He knew you wanted to hear him say it. He walked slowly towards the black grand piano that stood beside the panoramic window. The view of the city lights from that height was truly breathtaking. "You know damn well why I've been coming to your godfather’s parties." He said sitting down on the stool in front of the piano.
"I don't know anything, Stephen. And I'm getting tired of not knowing."
He nodded opening the lid and touching the piano keys gently. "I used to play the piano before the accident. I could still play if I wanted to, but I don't see much truth in having to use magic to do anything at all."
Stephen could hide it from himself all he wanted, but he could never really come to terms with the damage of his hands and how it completely changed his life. He was still ashamed of the scars, for that reason he used to keep his hands in his pockets when he was around you. And also because he could control himself better that way when all he wanted was to touch you.
"I would love to hear you play. What would you play for me?" You rested your cheek adorably on your hand watching him as if he were the most important thing in the world to you and Stephen felt his heart racing in his chest.
"Love is blindness" He replied without putting much thought into it. Maybe it was because he had been listening to that song on repeat for a few days now because it made him think of you.
"Jack White's song?" You asked sounding surprised. He shook his head closing the piano again and getting up "U2's song. Bono wrote it in 1990 and it was released in 1991 on the Achtung Baby album. Jack White covered it at the request of The Edge in 2011".
You looked surprised "I didn't know that. I always thought it was Jack White’s song."
"There's a lot you don't know, apparently." He said teasing you. He sat down on the sofa, careful to keep a safe distance, but as soon as he sat down, you crawled closer to him.
"I love knowing about these things and you seem to like U2."
He smiled "A lot. You don't like them?"
You grimaced "Not much. But to be fair, I never stopped to listen to their music. Only One, With or Without you and Beautiful Day."
Stephen rolled his eyes exaggeratedly "You have no idea what you're missing." He reached out to touch your hand that laid lazily on your thigh. "Promise me you'll listen carefully and then tell me what you think."
"Recommend me a song, then. It can't be Love is blindness because I already know that one."
Stephen smirked "Let's stick to the same album at least. I want you to listen to Ultraviolet and think of me while you do it, because I think of you when I'm listening to it."
You bit your lower lip "Anything for you, doctor."
...
You turned your hand over and Stephen laced his fingers through yours. You were surprised by his boldness, but you were totally determined to play along to see how far he would go. More than that, maybe you'd give him a little push. You had promised MJ and yourself that this would be the night you finally told him how you felt. The timing couldn't be more perfect.
Suddenly the air seemed thicker, your heart was pounding and you could hear it pounding in your ears.
"Stephen..."
He threatened to pull his hand away from yours, but you wrapped your other hand above his to keep it there.
"There's something I need to tell you. It's been a long time, I should have said it already."
He stared at you with those blue eyes waiting for what you had to say and the words just seemed to slip out of your head. Everything you had rehearsed tirelessly in front of the mirror while wearing that ridiculous dress just disappeared.
"Y/n..."
You shushed him "Please, let me talk. You can do whatever you want after, you can laugh, you can walk away, but first let me say it."
"Why would I laugh?"
You bit the inside of your cheek.
"Stephen I'm in love with you. If I haven't made it too obvious yet, I'm saying it now. I was always in love with you, even before the blip. I was too young to understand how problematic that was and then you disappeared for five years, but I never stopped thinking about you. The day you came back was the happiest of my life and I promised myself that having you around would be enough, but it's not enough."
You sighed heavily "I'm tired of this fruitless flirting, I want more than this and I think you want it too. It's not possible that I got it all wrong, I'm not that stupid..."
"You didn't get it wrong" He comfirmed.
You exhaled heavily only then realizing you were holding your breath. You kept your head down because you couldn't look at him. Your cheeks were on fire.
He touched your face, cupping your cheek and making you look at him.
"I thought I made it clear that I have feelings for you the night I saved you at the night club, young lady."
You shook your head negatively. "You said you liked me, then the other day you said you liked me as a friend..."
"I already explained myself about that. America and Wong were there and I was scared, Y/n." He tried to reason. "Do you understand how complicated this is? I'm more than twice your age and your godfather is the fucking Tony Stark."
You shook your head "I know, but I don't care. I'm an adult, I can make my own choices, Stephen."
He stroked your cheek with his thumb. "I know. That's why I'm here."
That was going better than you thought. Wasn't? At least he hadn't laughed, and it didn't look like he was going to walk away.
"So?" You asked impatiently.
He sighed taking one of your hands that held his and brought it to his lips. He kissed your hand lingeringly and then placed it on his face and leaned towards it closing his eyes for a second and sighing. You could have sworn you would melt right there, it was obscenely sweet.
"I have an idea or two, but I want to hear you say it first." He said staring at you with a cocky smile in his face.
You pulled your hand away and hugged your knees "I just said so."
"Say it again. If I'm going to pick this fight with all the Avengers, I want to make sure I heard what you said correctly."
You bit your bottom lip and sighed heavily turning around and dragging yourself impossibly close to him. Then you held both of his hands and looked into his eyes "I'm in love with you Doctor Strange. I always have been." You rolled your eyes "Is it good now? Was it dramatic enough?"
He gave a small giggle "Dramatic? Yes. But not quite enough yet." He brought his hand to the back of your neck and pulled you close until your lips were brushing against each other.
"I've wanted to do this for so long, sweetheart." He whispered and then he kissed you. Just a touch of lips. Soft and sweet. He pulled away analyzing your reaction. "Now is enough." he whispered.
But you weren't sure if that was enough. Not when you've waited so long for this. "No. Do it again, but like you mean it this time."
He gave you a cocky smile and then went back to kiss you and as soon as you parted your lips for him, his tongue entered your mouth dominating yours, deepening the kiss that had the sinful taste of whiskey. You moaned softly surrendering to the kiss and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. His hand went down to your back pulling you closer to him, your breasts brushing his chest and you felt like your whole body was on fire. Everything seemed like a dream, one of your many fantasies of before going to sleep.
...
It was certain that Stephen had completely lost his judgment. Little did he realize that you were literally in the living room of the Avengers Tower and that anyone could walk in there and catch you kissing. At that moment anything other than you didn't seem to matter to him.
He'd waited for this for so long, convinced it would never happen, yet here you were and Stephen could feel his body responding to you and manifesting itself in a prominent erection that the suit pants he was wearing could do little to disguise.
You were the one who broke the kiss first to breathe, but Stephen wasn't ready to take his lips off you. He ran them down your chin and down your neck. You smelled so good. Whatever perfume you were wearing, it was Stephen's favorite scent now. He felt your hand gripping his hair, the other going down his chest and if he hadn't drunk a little too much maybe he would have noticed how quickly your first kiss was becoming too heated, but in the drunken state he was in, all he could think of was that he wanted you.
He wanted to know the way you tasted, the noises you would make when he finally took you. How you would moan his name while he was going down on you.
He bit lightly on your earlobe and watched as your skin prickled at the touch of his goatee.
"Stephen..."
God, the sound of his name coming out of your mouth was extremely arousing. He was so hard. It suddenly seemed like a good idea for him to show you what you were doing to him. He grabbed your hand from his chest and brought it down to his hip as he took your lips again in a hungry kiss. But as soon as he had you touching his bulge, you flinched and pushed him away slightly, breaking the kiss and clearing your throat looking extremely uncomfortable.
"I'm sorry..." You got up going to the small bar in the far corner of the room. Stephen watched you prepare a glass of martini. He shook his head trying to get his thoughts straight. He knew your first kiss had turned out to be more heated than he'd expected, but he was confused by your reaction.
He got up and walked over to the bar "Did I do something you didn't like?" He asked holding your hand and making you look at him.
You shook your head negatively. "It's okay. It just seemed a little too much for one night. I'm sorry, I'm being silly." You took a long drink of your martini.
Stephen sighed "No need to apologize. I... I went a little too far. It's just that you have this effect on me and I've wanted this for so long."
You smiled, but your cheeks were bright red, as if somehow what he was saying was  completely absurd. Maybe if his brain hadn't been enveloped in a cloud of alcohol, or if all the blood in his head hadn't gone down to his cock, he would have understood.
Before you could respond, you were interrupted by the sound of the elevator and Thor and America came out. "The girl was worried because the doctor had disappeared" Thor informed smiling and although Stephen was scared by the possibility of him understanding what was happening, it was soon clear that the Asgardian had not noticed anything, America on the other hand stared at Stephen and then at you and gave him a wink.
"Well, I'll leave you to him then." Thor said turning around and America followed him.
"On second thought, I just needed to know he was okay, we can get back to the party now."
The two took the elevator back and Stephen chuckled. "How is it possible that a 14 year old girl can outsmart an Asgardian god?"
You allowed yourself a small giggle "Thor is a sweetheart, but intelligence is not his forte." You took your glass and went back to sit on the sofa and Stephen watched you for a moment, still unsure.
"Sit with me, Stephen. I'm sorry I spoiled the mood."
He approached and sat next to you.
"You didn't. I overdid it and scared you."
You smiled shyly "I wouldn't exactly say I was scared. Surprised would be more accurate. And you don't need to apologize."
He touched your face "You're so beautiful. I don't know how I could contain myself for so long when all I wanted was to have you in my arms."
You placed your hand over his. "What now? What do we do now?"
He sighed thinking for a second. "What do you want to do?"
"Right now? I just want to be here with you, but I know we've been here long enough for everyone to notice we have disappeared. Not to mention Thor will tell everyone who asks that he saw us here, so we should probably head downstairs. But that's not what I'm talking about."
He sighed "Maybe... maybe we should keep this just between us for a while until I figure out the best time to talk to Stark..."
You bit your bottom lip, but you didn't say anything. And he knew that didn't please you.
"What is it?"
"It's just..." You held his hand in yours playing with his fingers and Stephen couldn't help but notice how small your hands were compared to his. That thought made his cock throb inside his pants and he mentally scolded himself.
"I don't want to hide it. I want to hold your hand, I want to cuddle with you in the living room. I want what everyone else has."
He smirked, finding it all too sweet, but maintained his stance as he suggested, "I know. We might get there eventually, sweetheart, but I'm talking about self-preservation here. I need to think of a way to convince Stark that this isn't wrong, which I'm sure will be very difficult. Plus, you know it's not just Tony. All the Avengers adore you and I'm going to get in trouble with all of them."
You sighed "Not all of them." You said it softly and Stephen didn't know if you really wanted him to hear it. "Nat knows. Yelena too."
Stephen exhaled heavily "Who else?"
"Peter and MJ."
"What exactly do they know?"
You looked at him shyly "That I'm in love with you and that I think you like me too. They approve."
Stephen snorted incredulously "I find it hard to believe Romanoff would approve this, sweetheart."
"She does. She told me. She just asked me to proceed with caution, but she said she would support me. Yelena is super cool about that too and Peter and MJ are on our side."
Stephen smiled sighing "America knows it all. She insisted I tell you how I felt. As you can imagine, she approves it, but I'm afraid the approval of three teenagers isn't enough to convince your godfather."
You chuckled "Peter and MJ are not teenagers anymore, and Nat and Yelena will be on our side too."
He smirked taking one of your hands and kissing it gently and then pulling you to his lips, but this time he tried to contain himself. He kissed you deeply, passionately, but made a Herculean effort to keep his hands to himself. However,  your fingers entwined in his hair and with that you managed to pull a moan from the bottom of his throat.
"Now, that's not very smart."
Stephen pulled away from you instinctively when he heard Romanoff's voice. When he turned towards the direction the voice was coming from he saw her standing next to the elevator. Yelena beside her helping her walk.
"You realize that anyone can show up at any moment, right?" Yelena asked.
"Especially Tony" Natasha completed.
You started to giggle and Stephen stared at you in disbelief. "She's right, Y/n"
"Yeah, I usually am. I suggest you two head down to the party before anyone notices you're gone."
That said, the two entered the elevator and Natasha shoot him an angry look.
"Are you sure she's on our side?" Stephen asked chuckling nervously.
You grabbed him by the tie "Yes she is. Now give me one more kiss before we go, magic man."
And he obeyed. There was nothing he wanted more than to kiss you. Well, maybe there were a thing or two.
...
The night became considerably more tolerable now that you and Stephen had sorted things out. Well, not everything, but at least you could tell there was something between you and not just that flirting you could never be sure if it was real or something in your head. It was safe to say that you spent the rest of the evening wrapped in a kind of cloud of enthusiasm and there were, however ridiculous that definition was, butterflies in your stomach every time you and Stephen exchanged glances, some not so discreetly.
When most of the people had gone and only your friends were left, Tony did the favor of turning on the damn karaoke machine making everyone laugh every time someone was challenged to sing a song. However you couldn't complain, you were enjoying the show.
"Hey, Doctor, your turn" Wilson shouted after finishing a painful version of Streets of Philadelphia. You glared at Stephen who shook his head vehemently "No, thanks."
Sam looked around "Who's coming now? Come on guys, I just humiliated myself here, I'll feel better if you guys do the same."
"I've already humiliated myself enough" Pepper answered. She just finished singing It's all coming back to me now."
Stephen looked at you smiling. You were sitting at a table next to Nat and Yelena. To your surprise, he pointed at you "Why don't you make Y/n sing for us." He suggested and Wilson denied "No, come on. She won't help, she will only humiliate me even more."
You shook your head "I'm off today. Only you guys sing."
Tony climbed on the small stage taking the microphone from Sam's hand "The doctor is right. Come here, darling, show those scumbags how it's done."
Everyone started to press you and you threw an angry look at Stephen who was laughing. You got up going towards the stage "What shall I sing?"
Tony faced the small audience of Avengers "What do you guys think? Do we choose for her or let her choose?"
"Choose for her" Hill said.
"Let her choose" Stephen said staring at you "I'm curious to know what she will choose."
"You choose it, baby. Friday can find any song you want."
You stared at him blankly for a moment "Did you hack the karaoke machine?"
"What's the fun in only having 50 songs to choose from?" He asked defending himself and handing the microphone in your hand. He came down on stage and sat next to Pepper.
You thought for a second "Friday, play Cherry by Lana Del Rey."
