Top 10 songs of 2022, reviewed by yours truly

10, Artificial Suicide by Bad Omens

I was pretty late for the new Bad Omens album hype but this song has always been in rotation since the album release in February. The rest of the album is pretty good as well, but this song stands out for me because of heaviness and the lyrical theme. Bad Omens are one of the bands nowadays that dare to change without faking it. Amazing song.

9. Miracle by A Day To Remember

I'm one of those elder emos who remember the biggest hype around ADTR around 2014 or so. I always considered Homesick as one of the greatest albums of all time and after their last album, You're Welcome, I was just as disappointed as everyone else. Thankfully being an Imagine Dragons cover band didn't last long. They came back with this single with probably one of my favorite breakdowns of the year. Completely unexpected but very well done.

8. Techno Train by Electric Callboy

German metalcore band Electric Callboy had a pretty busy year. First they tried to apply to the Eurovision song contest with their song 'Pump It' that brought a lot of new fans to the band, but ultimately got rejected because of their old name and old lyrical themes that, needless to say would be 100% cancelled today. Because of this rejection and because they realized they're here to entertain, not offend, they changed their name. Then they put out bangers after bangers with schlager turned deathcore song 'Hurricane', a collab with Conquer Divide called 'Fuckboi', and a song about being a Spaceman with a german verse I don't even understand. Then they released their album Tekkno which is arguably one of the best overall records of the year. This song however stands out just because of the lyrical ridiculousness. The CHOO-CHOO-CHOO in the breakdown is the thing this year that never fails to make me laugh. 100% banger.

7. The King And Queen of Gasoline by Hot Milk

British pop punk duo hot milk has been on my radar for a couple years now but with their new EP they got a place in my heart for sure. This song in particular is so catchy, that after a single listen it got stuck in my head for days. I couldn't figure out what it was but then I realized and it hit me. The verse, the guitar riff and the chorus are all so unforgettable that there's no way someone forgets them in this century after a couple listens. The lyrics are as emo as ever, which of course were also appealing to me. Their earlier song that I really love is 'I Think I Hate Myself' which has major Welcome To The Black Parade vibes in its bridge and its solo, which I thought was worth mentioning since that also come out recently before this EP. Both are amazing songs by an amazing band.

6. Masterpiece by Motionless In White

Some people in the metalcore community always judge MIW for being a Breaking Benjamin turned goth cover band and, well, they're not entirely wrong. Chris Motionless has absolutely been heavily influenced by Benjamin Burley's vocal takes as every clean chorus he writes, could be on either Phobia or Dear Agony by the aforementioned band. Masterpiece though is not just a BB cover, it's also a masterpiece. It brought the band a place as nr. 1. on the Mainstream Rock Airplay, being their biggest achievement since 2013. They absolutely deserve it, as the song and the whole album works greatly as a getaway drug to metalcore and metal in general. MIW, BMTH, Bad Omens and Architects are absolutely today's Linkin Parks and Slipknots as far as spreading heavy music goes.

5. The Foundations of Decay by My Chemical Romance

This song was the biggest surprise release of the year for me. Not just because we haven't got a new official release from the band in nearly a decade (except the rerelease of The Black Parade and Fake Your Death from their best of album), but because the song really really differs from the last official album of MCR. Danger Days was almost a pop record with bangers all around and TFOD compared to this is like a completely different band, reminiscing on the eras way before The Black Parade, their most successful record yet. The production of this song is the only questionable thing about it, the vocals are really low-mixed, the guitars however are as punk and grungy as it gets. It even has a breakdown. Very nice surprise from Gerard and the boys.

4. Strangers by Bring Me The Horizon

Whoever knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of BMTH. I love everything they've done from amo to Count Your Blessings. They're the only band in the scene that dictate the current style of metalcore writing and producing. The songwriting duo of Jordan Fish and Oli Sykes is unquestionably one of the best at ther job in the past like 20 years, they can do whatever the fuck they want to do with music and people are gonna enjoy it. With the Post Human EP series they celebrate genres they love and pay homage to them by mixing them with their own style. This is what happened in their last EP, Survival Horror as well. Back then they chose NU metal for the style. Right now in this album cycle this style is emo. With both singles heavily influenced by emo bands, Strangers stood out for me because of the unexpected 6/8 time signature. Brings me back to the good old days with Brand New and Taking Back Sunday on repeat.

3. Anabolic Spudsman (thique edition) by Bilmuri feat Will Ramos and Spencer Stewart

This song is probably the most random entry on this list. I'm very surprised Bilmuri is not mentioned as one of the most innovative bands of the scene right now. This song is so unexpected and fun that I can't even categorize it in a genre. Or multiple. This song is all over the place. It has a really catchy verse and pop-ish vibes, well, except the current king of deathore himself Will Ramos is serving his time as the backing vocalist in the meanwhile. The chorus would fit in a Billboard Nr. 1. song, it's that poppy. Then around 2 minutes the breakdown hits, Will screams our butts off, aaaand we're back to the pop vocals for the rest of the bridge. Then the biggest surprise, a fucking saxophone solo. This song is amazingly unexpected, well-written and all over the place, I love it.

2. Call Me Little Sunshine by Ghost

Yes I have to mention Ghost. Impera was released in March and was on repeat for me for the rest of the year. The first single Call Me Little Sunshine was never skipped. The guitar riff reminded me of their song Cirice, the lyrical theme of course was about Satan, who else, and the production was raised to the next level by Papa and the Ghouls. The live version featuring the Ghoulettes' backing vocals is even better than the album edit. The rest of the album is great as well, honorable mentions are Spillways, Respite on the Spitalfields and Kaiserion. With this easy to play doomy song they showed that there's still that edge in them despite growing more popular with each release (Looking at you tiktokers listening to Mary On A Cross).

Pain Remains (I-II-III) by Lorna Shore

Technically my first place is 3 songs in one. This is gonna be the longest song review so bare with me. Lorna Shore has been around for a while with multiple vocalist and several other member changes. They never stood out for me from the crowd, as I've never been the biggest deathcore fan myself. But I have to admit, the whole record Pain Remains singlehandedly saved deathcore overnight for me. Obviously they needed a charismatic new frontman, a couple of catchy symphonic elements (which were always there but were left ignored by me for some reason) and reaction channels and tiktok hyping up their upcoming album. When the first Pain Remains was released, I thought I was witnessing history being written. It was a freaking deathcore ballad, with more genuine emotions than the When We Were Young festival's whole lineup. The videos are also well made and tell a story about a man losing his lover which causes him to go down on a depressive spiral, ultimately ending his own life. The trilogy has also several callbacks to itself. Dancing Like Flames' fire comes back in the third act, In A Sea Of FIre as the fire that burns down our protagonist's house and life with all of his memories about his love. The most disturbing one is the second act, After All That I've Done, I Disappear, where he tries to end his own life right next to his wife's casket after her funeral, but failing in the end. The first 2 songs have solved the whole genre's only problem for me, which was the lack of emotion and genuineness. The raw emotion in the 'A World Without You Is Not Meant For Me' scream has me shivering every time I hear it. They made a truly amazing record with Pain Remains and I really hope they continue to do so with similar projects in the future.

A very lovely anon requested that I make a playlist for my personal favourite toxic blonde, and I just couldn’t say no. I delete my playlists on Spotify/Youtube too often for that to be a viable format so I decided to just make a graphic + a list so y’all could go through it in your own time and pick & choose what songs you liked and didn’t to add to your own playlists, if you wanted. Quick note! This is video is a bit off time and cut a smidge short, but I'm very tired so I didn't fix it, feel free to watch the scratch version instead! (Linked bellow.) It's better. :)

[Video description: Three consecutive map parts about Blue Oak and Red from Pokemon Adventures to the song "Prom Dress," by mxmtoon. The video starts with a quick image of the thumbnail, a colorful drawing of Blue's boots standing on a grassy hill in front of another grassy hill that almost blocks out the blue sky. The title of the map part is written in white at the bottom of the screen. The animation starts with a monochromatic blue shot of an eye opening on beat to the music. The lyrics start with, "I'm sitting here," and a still shot of Blue's face. He is frowning slightly, though it quickly switches to a fast moving shot from behind him, his cloak waving in the wind once more on beat. The blue background has stars shooting across it. On, "Crying in my prom dress," a shot shows Blue from the chest up to right below his nose. His hair blows in a fast moving wind and tears drip down his face. He grits his teeth. A song that I really think needs to be appreciated more is Not My Type: Dead as Fuck 2 by Motionless in White. I'd heard a few of their songs before deciding today to listen to the whole Graveyard Shift album, and while I really liked most of the songs and the general style, it was that one that cemented them as my favorite band when I really thought about that song and replayed it. Note, I've never listened to the first one. This is purely about Dead as Fuck 2 and my interpretation of the song, and I'm mainly making this post for fun and as a song rec for anyone who might be interested.

First off, the concept of a "horror song" isn't something considered as a serious genre in media, because it is true that songs are a lot different from movies, shows, books and video games at how they can portray messages. (Same way you don't really hear "horror poetry." Both of those concepts seem mainly nonexistent.) Most of the time, if people think of horror music, they think of music with a "creepy sound", most of the time songs used in actual horror movies. But I would definitely class Not My Type: Dead as Fuck 2 as a horror song, not because it sounds creepy or suspenseful, but because it executes a concept meant to disturb someone in a manner that even some horror movies fail to do.

The sound of the song does play a pretty large part in this, though. If you were to take the instrumental alone, a lot of people would describe it is a "Halloweeny metal/goth song." It combines the metal sound of quite a bit of the album with things often used in mainstream, family friendly spooky/Halloween media. When I was listening to the song some of my thought processes were that it reminded me of something from Monster High. And that's pretty clearly an intentional part of it. The giggling, the distortion at the "goes for a spin" lyric, and also some of the language used. I was subconsciously comparing its use of Halloween creatures and tropes to things like Monster Mash, which contrasts the meaning of the song.

If someone was listening to the song for the first time, (and unfamiliar with MIW, and in some sort of situation where they didn't know the song title), it would sound just like that at first. The line "Just no rest for the queen of the dead" would sound just as normal as everything else. And then the disturbing chorus would catch them off guard, which is an intentional contrast. "Give head like a zombie" both introduces the reality of what the song is about and partly keeps the same language I commented on before. By introducing the aspect of necrophilia and keeping the pattern of comparing this act to a mainstream Halloween creature, it makes that concept look less wholesome as well, and in a way mocks how disturbing said concept can get when not in children's media. The description of the act gets more vivid in the next lines, in a way that could be disturbing to someone who wasn't expecting that level of gruesomeness, and intriguing to lots of people who enjoy the tone of the song. Knowing the meaning of the song gives a deeper meaning to the lines before, like "dug her up from a hole" and "just no rest for the queen of the dead." Throughout the song the "Halloweeny" sound and language and the intense metal are still used in harmony to complement both emotions that it can cause, and in an oddly fascinating and beautiful way, the song portrays a disturbing concept and a deranged character with nuance. The song was clearly crafted with intent and passion.

I highly recommend this song because it's enjoyable in several ways- pleasant to the ears and allows the listener to experience the concept however they please.

Ronald: Die4u~ Bring Me The Horizon (While Ronald might be a flirt and party animal I believe that maybe his suicide and him becoming a reaper had to do with someone he loved deeply only to have his heart broken by this person. It was a toxic kind of love though as the song kind of depicts a toxic love bombing relationship between two people. I think that could be why Ronald is a flighty person. Since that relationship leading to his demise, he has trouble with trust and opening his heart to others. I ship him and Grell though. <3 I feel like Grell would be understanding towards him regarding her own demise and trauma and accept him as he is broken pieces and all. And unfortunately while the anime had him misgendering her (we can’t have nice things ;( ) I headcanon him seeing Grell as a whole ass woman and being an active listener and shoulder to cry on. He would definitely accept her too. Lengthy explanation I know… I hope I phrased things correctly :/ )

Hannah: I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend ~ Girl in Red (self explanatory)

Madam Red: Mirrors ~ PVRIS (I think this song has Redcliff vibes. <3 Grell is a mousy butler by day and a radiant af supernatural being at night. The lyric saying “Darling don’t be so shy I’ll see you at midnight,” I think suggests by day Grell is just a butler that Madam Red yells at and bosses around as a cover but by midnight they’re lovers on a killing spree. Then when morning comes Grell is back to mousy butler mode and they have to play the part of servant and royalty. And in the morning, Madam Red waits for a secret rendezvous with her goregous reaper at nighttime and so on and so on. Also Madam Red knows Grell’s true nature as a grim reaper and that she’s not human and dead inside as the song keeps saying. Yet she can’t resist Grell despite her lover killing her in the end over her not wanting to kill her own nephew.)

Hello earthlings :) This is an entry for This is an entry for a writing challenge I’m taking part in, launched by the wonderful @obsessedwithrandomthings for getting 500 followers; congrats again :) The prompt I chose this time was <<You look so good in my shirt>>. I can just imagine our dear Sirius using lame one-liners when flirting with girls, and this is the result. P.S. I’ve been listening to Motionless in White lately, so this thing is packed with lyrics references. Besides, Sirius looks like the kind of guy who would totally dig that style of music so I thought “why not?” I hope you enjoy it!

Sirius greeted the H/C girl who’d just walked in the class with her friends. As soon as she saw him, she groaned

Sirius was stumped.

Beside him, Janes cackled

The other guy could only nod, watching as his crush took a seat as far as possible from him- or tried to: thanks to his distraction, all the other spots were occupied.

That meant she was sitting in the next desk.

Y/N hoped that she’d successfully quelled the Gryffindor’s idiotic onslaught.

Well, she did... Just for a little while though

<<Yes, my killing instincts are very strong right now>>

The quaint theatre was interrupted by the arrival of Professor Silvanus Kettleburn, who immediately gave dispositions for the class

The sentence every student dreaded, especially poor Y/N.

It seemed luck was not on her side that day because, when the professor announced her partner, she was faced with a smug Sirius, grinning from ear to ear

<<You know, my therapist says I’m afraid of commitment. Wanna help me prove em wrong?>>

<<Interesting. I’ve never wanted to commit more>>

<<Really?>>

<<Yes; a murder>> The E/C-eyed student walked away from him, heading toward the fire crab the professor had assigned them

Sirius nodded, handing her the food and watching her cut it, slowly and precisely

The boy cackled

<<You’re smart, funny, pretty, and you’ve got an insane amount of sass. You’re everything I’m looking for in a girl>>

<<Wow, I’m so lucky>>

It would have been impossible to ignore the sarcasm lacing her words, but Sirius didn’t acknowledge it

<<Would you want to go watch a movie with me this weekend?>>

<<I’ve already seen it>>

<<How can you know?>>

<<You’re asking me out again: I’ve already lived this horror enough to last me a lifetime>>

The older Black brother laughed, shaking his head in amusement

<<Alright, let me try again>>

<<Please no>>

<<Can I take you out on Saturday?>>

<<Sorry, I’m having a headache this weekend>>

<<What?>>

<<Leftovers from the one you’re giving me now>>

But you->>

<<Bitch you’d give a fucking aspirin a headache>> She growled.

Once again, Sirius was at a loss for words. Not only had Y/N just used two swear words in a sentence, but he knew he’d already heard those words somewhere...

<<Wait a second. You listen to Motionless In White?>>

He cried out. The female snorted

<<Are you kidding me? They’re one of my favourite bands>>

<>

Finally, the tension between them seemed to dissipate. Finally, Sirius’s smile was not a smug grin but a real, happy smile.

Finally, Y/N smiled genuinely back at him.

How cliché would it be to say that they felt like they were the only ones in the world at the moment?

(Fire crab aside)

And yet, that exactly how they felt.

It was so exhilarating that Sirius just had to try again

<<Y/N?>>

<<Yes?>>

<> The girl chuckled, prompting him to continue <<but I’m here to stay, forever and always>>

She laughed more. It was not sarcastic or mirthless but a true, joyous laugh

<<You know, you’re not so bad once I get past the smug act>>

<<You’re probably right, but don’t get ahead of yourself. My killing instinct are not raging right now: let’s keep it that way, shall we?>>

<<I’m ready to bleed to make amends>> He joked. The young woman cachinnated, shoving him playfully

<<You idiot. You’re making it hard not to like you>>

<<That was my objective>>

<<Continue on this road and you might just achieve it>>

Y/N cackled one more time, shaking her head in amusement.

It was an incredibly welcome turn of events.

Later that day, the two students sat together for lunch in the Great Hall, discussing anything that came to mind. Mostly their favourite bands.

The more they found out they had similar tastes the more engaged they became.

It was quite a sight. It surely left Remus and James gobsmacked: they would have never thought Y/N would actually want to be with Sirius. Didn’t he annoy her as much as James did Lily, with his dumb pickup lines?

Apparently not.

Their surprise grew even more when their friend suddenly asked her on a date- nothing new there.

They’d enjoyed endless attempts by Padfoot to win the heart of the smart and beautiful H/N.

Her answer, on the other hand, was something entirely unexpected

<<Yes, Sirius: I will go on a date with you>>

The black-haired Marauder offered her a huge smile, making her laugh

<<Thank you, darling. You won’t regret it>>

<>

<<I’ll even make sure the place I take you to has sharp knives, so you’ll know what to do if I get too annoying, alright?>>

The girl laughed so hard that tears fell from her eyes

<<You’re an idiot>>

<<Duly noted. But doesn’t this idiot deserve a kiss?>>

Remus and James half expected Y/N’s smile to turn into a frown, and for her to smack him in the face.

Instead, against all odds, she giggled and pulled him closer, pecking his cheek

<> Sirius beamed. Y/N snorted

<<Not entirely: you’re still an idiot>>

Idiot or not, the date went so well that they went on a second one, and a third, a fourth... And so on, until they officially became a couple.

Which meant Remus, James and Peter had to deal with their best friend and his girlfriend sucking faces and being all lovey-dovey- though they were sure those two only did it to piss them off.

Well, they’d learnt how to deal with it, as long as it was just holding hands and kissing- making out, actually.

But none of them was ready to find the two of them in bed together in their dorm room

<<Ah!>> Y/N startled, waking Sirius

<<For crying out loud, guys, won’t you ever knock?>>

The poor friends just stood there, red in the faces while Padfoot rubbed sleep out of his eyes.

Once he’d had enough, he shouted

<<Well, why are you still standing there? Get out, we need to change!>>

Not even Death-Eaters after them would have made the three boys run so fast.

The female chuckled, standing up and smoothing our her boyfriend’s shirt that she was wearing like a dress.

The boy in question stared at her adoringly, pulling her closer

<<You look so good in my shirt>>

He fully expected her to blush, but she smirked and replied cheekily

The wink that came immediately after threw him for a loop

<<Y/N...>>

<<Yes, dear?>>

<<... That’s such a lame pickup line>>

<<Yeah... I stole the idea from you, along with your shirt>>

<<And my heart>> Sirius played along

<<... Just like that, the lame throne is yours again>>

<<But that makes you the queen of lame>> He pointed out.

She didn’t know what to reply to that, so she swatted him on the chest.

He gasped in horror

<<You said you’d never hurt me>>

His joke made her laugh.

When she calmed down enough, she teased

<<You’d still give a fucking aspirin a headache>>

<<Oh, are you an aspirin?>> For old times’ sake, he decided to throw in another lame pickup line <<I’d love to take you every 4-6 hours>>

<<Isn’t that too much for you?>> She teased. He chuckled and pulled her in his lap, pecking her cheek

<<You are too much for me, but I’m never letting you go>>

Despite the light atmosphere, those words held a promise of forever, and they both wanted that.

Their lips met and their hands held the other close.

Once again, as cliché as it may sound, they felt like the only two people in the world

Outside the door Remus, James and Peter stood still, looking at each other in confusion and embarrassment

<<How long do you think it will take?>>

<<Well, Wormtail, I don’t know much about Padfoot’s prowess in bed but->>

<<I’m not talking about that, James>> The shorter Marauder spluttered.

Remus sighed

<<That was probably the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me. And that’s saying something, taking into account I hang out with you three>>

James cackled

<<Oh, Moony, you wouldn’t->>

<> Peter piped up again

<<What would that be?>>

<<Why are we still standing here?>>

<<Oh, right. We should come back later>>

<<Better yet, let’s change our house>> Remus groused <<Merlin knows I’m never going back there>>

After some silence, James spoke again

Jaskier notices that Geralt lets things come to him, rather than the other way around.

They’re waiting for the blacksmith to be done fitting Roach out, an important errand that Geralt never delays with, and while Geralt contents himself with taking up a post near the barn door, Jaskier has found a seat on the fence with his lyric notes out while he indulges the quiet pastoral sensibilities of the scenery around them. The mountain looms up behind the village but from their spot near the edge and a little ways up the slope, it’s a beautiful view of the rolling foothills and the streams crossing like veins over the wrinkled earth.

He’s a few minutes into the task of finding even more rhymes for ‘yearning’ when he looks up to find Geralt three feet away from a cat that looks only a little bigger than a loaf. The witcher is crouched, hunched near the ground with his yellow eyes fixed on two very like his own and he simply waits. No calls, no murmurs to come closer, just a stillness settling over him as though he could scare the cat away with a mere breath. Jaskier thinks of that stillness, remembers seeing it more often than he’d have expected, when children passed by or became curious, when the barmaids bring him drinks and when the old, bent farmers he trades for a few carrots take his sparse coin.

His witcher can’t make himself smaller, can’t remove the expectations from the minds of those who encounter and so he goes still, keeping himself motionless as they approach. As though afraid of chasing them who would perform a kindness or a curiosity away. Jaskier’s charcoal has left a smear of grey across the edges of his fingers as he rubbed the stick between his fingers in thought and he snaps from his reverie at the soft mewl of a feline.

The colorful calico is bending against Geralt’s leg, claws sunk into the leather of his armor and brushing her head along his clenched fist which slowly uncurls until she presses her nose against the calloused fingers and climbs into his lap.

“The White Wolf and the little cat, a little too fable-sounding to me but you know, I can make anything work,” Jaskier calls over, pitching his voice low to keep from ruining Geralt’s work but he needn’t have bothered. The cat is firmly planted across Geralt’s thighs, who shoots Jaskier an unimpressed look before returning to his slow carding of fingers through her soft fur.

“Stooping to nursery rhymes, bard?” Geralt grumbles back, far milder than his usual tone at which Jaskier comes close to toppling from his perch. He might even have said it came close to being a coo, as rough as there ever was, but the gravel in Geralt’s voice is ground smooth as he continues. “You’ll be queening soon.”

Sidestepping his surprise at Geralt’s clear address to the cat, Jaskier stares at him quizzically. The cat doesn’t look rounded or heavier than expected in the least, though admittedly he isn’t petting her to the point of purring right then as Geralt appears to be doing.

He’s watching the cat baring her chin for the witcher’s careful strokes when the blacksmith brings Roach out of his barn, her short knicker pulling Geralt’s attention away even as he seems reluctant to stand up now that his lap is burdened as it is.

“She’s looking good,” Jaskier remarks, jumping down from his spot and taking the reigns from the blacksmith, whose expression is fixed into a stunned kind of shock as Geralt finally gets up with the cat twining around his ankles.

“Payment as promised,” Geralt mutters, proffering the handful of coins and this time Jaskier knows what’s coming. The stillness that comes over him, waiting for the blacksmith to approach and take what is due without a waver in his stance.

The observation sticks with him, flitting around in his mind for the rest of their day’s journey and even as they make camp. His lyrics are forgotten in the meantime, he’s got enough ‘burning’ and ‘discerning’ to do of his own. As to why his witcher does this, why he’d never noticed it before and how it fits into his picture of Geralt. Because he knows that jobs turn into rescues more often than not, that Geralt has his fair share of bad memories in relation to humans from the past, that Jaskier is still trying to undo all the associations the common folk have but perhaps… perhaps he’d missed how that affected Geralt himself.

Behind the black of his garb and the gold in his eyes, he’s always wanted for the simplest things. A little peace, some quiet, a nap. He’d never seemed to care for people’s opinions, as dry as his own were when Jaskier got the opportunity to hear them, so what is it that brings him to that stillness?

He’s still mulling on it when Geralt jabs the skewer of fish he’d caught under Jaskier’s nose.

“It’ll burn if you leave it any longer. Last I heard, you don’t like the taste of ash,” is his only comment, returning to his stony contemplation as he spears his own empty skewer into the smoldering remnants.

“What do I have a taste for, then?” Jaskier bites into his dinner, the edges still hot and he sucks in a quick breath as a last-ditch attempt to cool it off. The mild pain is enough to make him jerk the fish away, the sharp point waving wildly before Geralt catches his hand to keep it still.

“Your own burned tongue.”

Jaskier glares at him, but the smile at the corner of Geralt’s mouth makes him forget the tingling in his own. They’re sitting on the same side of the fire, mostly to keep the smoke out of their eyes from the slight breeze rustling through the forest but Jaskier finds himself thinking of rough hands gently untangling the cat’s paws from his pants and where those fingers rest now, curling in a warm grip over his knuckles with just enough pressure to hold his hand steady.

As soon as Jaskier’s mouth parts, still watching the hint of a smile, he notices it again. Geralt goes still. Like a lake undisturbed by even the ripple of a fish’s passing, he stays and Jaskier realizes he could pull away easily. Could disentangle their fingers with less effort than it takes to strum a chord, and yet he knows what Geralt’s doing now.

His idle gaze becomes a lure, pulling him towards Geralt now that he understands. They’re a mere inch apart when he begins to doubt, to think the heat in those eyes might be for a different reason, that there’ll be no response bar another burned tongue, except in a different sense, when Geralt’s stillness breaks and he moves just a fraction. Towards Jaskier.

And Jaskier meets him, lips brushing against parted lips, in a gesture so fragile he wonders if it’ll break upon exhale but Geralt presses into another kiss, more bold now that Jaskier’s touched him first, and it blooms between them.

Between the gentle tilting of his world, Jaskier’s thoughts slip away despite his confirmed theory. That with all the fear curdling his interactions with the world, Geralt had found kindness only rested near him when he ignored it, lest it flee at his smallest motion to welcome it. Jaskier’s heart, already turning to Geralt as a sunflower to its light, had taken root around him as Geralt had waited and would remain with him wherever he went.

If you could dye your hair one color, what would it be? Something pastel. Maybe light pink. How many people have you kissed, that you can HONESTLY say you loved? Two. If you have pets, do they ever get table scraps? As a snake, Venus obviously doesn't, and Roman doesn't, either. He learned as a kitten that eating human food is a no-no.
