kotone/hamuko/minako. best hugger in sees. she's a hashtag empath, so she always knows when you need a hug, too. will tug your head down to rest on her shoulder and start rubbing your back and everything. the technique? perfect. 10/10 no notes.

shinjiro. he's a lot less likely to hug anyone but aki, but when he does, it's big ol bear hug and he's not letting go until they feel better, period. he feels slightly awkward about it, but once he's holding on, he's committed. he's got that weighted blanket swag. (he doesn't smell the best though which holds him back from first place)

ryoji. hug will be a bit awkward at first but then he'll find his stride and suddenly he's a good hugger for all the same reasons as kotone. he had to get it from somewhere, after all. loses some points because he can be a little overly familiar, so he might employ back-rubbing in situations where it's unneeded.

fuuka. she's a little shy and less likely to hug, but if she does, she'll do it with all her heart!! a very gentle hugger who will try to console you as you're hugging. she might also start crying if things get emotional tbh but she won't get your shirt too wet. she also isn't likely to let go until you're smiling again.

aigis. she may be made of metal but i think we know from the ending of the game that she will cradle her loved ones so gently and with all the love and protection in her whole body <3 probably hugs a little tentatively because she doesn't want to crush the recipient of her hug. she's surprisingly warm, not cold, and her arms are less rigid than you would think.

i HAD to put koromaru this low because he technically can't hug you. but you can hug HIM and he is soft and warm and loves you so much.

yukari. she has good hugging technique, like fuuka's, but she's much more hesitant to actually hug and is more likely to pull away prematurely because she suddenly gets bashful. if someone else hugs her, she might even freeze up rather than hugging back, even if she wants to. her mind is racing with other thoughts as they hug, which makes her hug a little awkward and distracted.

theodore. gives an excellent gentle hug but he has no idea what to do next. he'll just stand there totally still indefinitely, and you have to kick him to get him to let you go.

elizabeth. hugs very enthusiastically but she will be saying some weird eccentric shit into your ear while you're trying to enjoy the hug. you could be on the verge of tears and she'd be like "oh my, is this what you humans call a 'bear hug'? should i summon a bear persona? ohohoho."

akihiko. he will hug with reckless abandon, but he is very awkward about it and hugs way too tight. like, a firm hug is nice and all, but akihiko please i cant breathe you'rE CRUSHING ME AKIHIKO--COUGH COUGH HACK--

minato/makoto. very stiff and wooden while he hugs you, so the hugging technique itself is pretty poor, but he has good awareness of when a hug is and isn't necessary and knows exactly when to squeeze a little and pull back. a quiet, slightly awkward hug.

ken. would be higher up on this list if he could just accept that he is Small but whenever he hugs someone he has to attempt to hug them in a Big Boy way which means he'll be trying to pull you down so he can hug you from "above", like with your head on his shoulder, and your back is gonna hurt like hell afterwards because he is just way too short.

junpei. gets self conscious and jerks away in the middle of a hug, just like yukari, but his technique is also awkward and wooden like minato, and if he's emotional enough to hug without feeling awkward then he'll be squeezing too tight like akihiko. worst of all worlds.

Sniper x Scout x A clingy s/o

Jeremy thinks your cuddliness is really cute. He appreciates the physical affection so much and will return the favour tenfold !

Mundy on the other hand struggles at first, as he doesn't know how to reciprocate, but with plenty of communication he figures out how not to he as stiff as a board.

You and Jeremy would have to show him how you like being held or cuddled. You'd guide his hands, and Jeremy would adjust his posture. Regardless, you both were very patient with him.

Scout and Sniper are on opposite ends when it comes to PDA. Jeremy does not care if others are around, he's gonna give huge bear hugs and big kisses all the time ! He doesn't care if the others know, and if anything, he might actually prefer them to know ! Like, "look at me, I have the two cutest s/o's ever !"

..Mundy on the other hand isn't so comfortable with it, and you'd often remind Jeremy if he gets overexcited and tries to show Mundy affection in public.

But in private? You all practically pile on top of each other showing affection. Ie, Mundy showing one of you affection, and the other practically throwing themself at him in order to get affection to. (I hope this made you think of a gmod ragdoll because thats what im going for)

In private places, Mundy straight up does not wanna let go, he's gonna cling until you tell him you gotta move. But once youre back comofortably, back to koala bear mode.

Something Mundy does that Jeremy thought was a little odd at first was sniffing. Sniper likes sniffing you and him like a puppy. He just finds your scents comforting.

Mundy loves giving you and Scout kisses on the forehead or top of your heads so he doesn't have to bend down that much. Scout can and has bragged about being the perfect height that he can kiss either of you on the lips without having to tell one of you to bend down. And if you're small, sometimes you settle for kissing them on the neck or chin so you don't have to ask them to bend down.

Scout 10/10 ambushes you with hugs from behind. And if Sniper sees him approaching you from behind? If he knows what Scout is doing, he'll keep quiet. But there have been times he completely outed Scout just because he was happy to see him and eager to greet him.

Scout acts like he likes being the big spoon, but he actually really likes being little. It gives him a sense of comfort and safety, but if anything, he prefers holding you guys while facing you instead of away. Bonus points if he can hold one of you to his chest like a plushy.

Sniper on the other hand likes being the big spoon. Just the feeling of you or Scout pressed against his body relaxes him so much that he falls asleep in just a few minutes. You and Scout don't have the heart to tease him for it cause he never gets enough sleep unless one of you are around.

You three sometimes have to take turns to see who gets to be in the middle. Sniper doesn't always participate in these little negotiations, he's just happy that you both wanna cuddle.

If youre small, Scout fucking loves carrying you, it makes him feel so strong and he gets to hold you close so win win. He has tried to pick up Sniper but they both fell over, and Sniper hasn't let him do it since. Snipes would carry you if you asked, and would be super blushy and amazed if you ever managed to carry him ! Same for scout tbh

Jeremy will sometimes grab you by the waist out of nowhere and pull you close to his side, bumping your hips together. The only reason he doesn't do that for Sniper as much is cause of the whole PDA thing.

Mundy is very prone to pulling either of you on his lap, but typically gets crushed after he pulls one of you and then the other insists to join (he likes it though).

Sniper usually sleeps at the innermost side of the bed cause hes a super light sleeper, meanwhile Scout sleeps at the edge side because you might need a nuclear bomb to wake this man up. Scout drools in his sleep btw and Mundy has seriously considered bringing a towel to bed because of it.

Every fuckin time you laugh Scout cant help but join even if youre laughing at something really gruesome or something. Sniper cant help but smile too.

Even tho Mundy isn't big on PDA, sometimes when he feels overwhelmed he'll hold your or Jeremy's sleeve or the back of your shirt for comfort.

Anyways. In general there's just so much bickering so there's never a dull moment. And Scout never fuckin shuts up so there's a lot of snarky remarks to be made.

But sometimes you or Mundy start feeling a little overwhelmed with all the noise. You both can recognize easily when the other is getting a little overwhelmed, but Jeremy needs a little time to figure out the cues. But when one of you lets him know, he'll start being a little quieter or just outright stop talking until he knows you guys are okay.

Back to cuddling hcs. You guys tend to fall asleep and wake up at completely different times, so you managed to keep a proper sleep schedule purely so you can all sleep together.

JEREMY KEEPS HOGGING THE BLANKET. AND MUNDY KEEPS HAVING COLD PEETS. Every fucking night Sniper gets annoyed and puts his cold feet on Jeremy to bug him, accidentally kicking you in the process, and it doesnt even wake up mister jer bear over here.

this is the one that has made this response take so long to shell out, I have gone through my spotify multiple times and I'm still struggling to pick one so idk if this is my favorite but in this very second, my favorite lyric is...yeah no I can't pick one but I can pick multiple from one song, if that's enough? I very often can (and do) eat a pound of meat in one sitting, I usually eat roughly 10 or 12 ounces, but I can eat a full pound (16 ounces), and many people hate how I eat, some bully me for how I eat, many tell me I'm gross, and more still tell me things like "You'll regret that when you're thirty!!" and I get it, that woman was worried about me, but I would rather die young and live than die old and survive

I also relate because sometimes I get told I'm eating too much or I'm only eating this much because it's not filling, which also isn't true since I know more than a few people who eat this way and eat less, so I suppose "Even though I've had enough" I add "in your eyes" to it

I can imagine the institution really did it’s best to just crush any decent coping mechanisms Norman had. The thing that’s so funny to me about Norman’s horrendous eating habits is that Tony was JUST AS BAD 💀 his milk drinking was fucking infamous. He lived on grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate junket pudding. It’s very easy to make the vigilant yaksha jealous

He doesn’t really know that it’s jealousy though, he just knows that he does NOT like the way he feels when other people flirt with you

He’ll sit there and bear with it though, at least until he can get you alone. Then, Xiao will grab your arm and give you a spine crushing hug, practically growling in your ear

“You are not interested in them romantically, right??” He’ll ask “Right???”

You’ll assure him that no, you don’t like those other guys and you still love him. He’ll loosen up and sag against you “Alright...”

That’s why jealousy is such an ugly emotion, he’s secretly jealous of someone who isn’t even real! A mythical person his brain has created in order to torment him

Since he isn’t usually openly emotional, you wouldn’t be able to tell he was feeling jealous until he opened his mouth

“Hm. You have been spending an awful lot of time with Captain Kaeya lately” he’ll point out, almost sounding bitter about it “I could have used your company here in the lab”

He may not be the most social guy on earth! However he likes when you hang around him! So when you’re busy with other people, he’ll huff and sigh a lot more while you’re away. Sucrose thinks it’s a little funny :)

“Kaeya was helping me train, that’s all” “Training...I could help with that. I’d say my sword fighting skills are superior to his” “Albedo? Are you jealous that I was training with Kaeya?” “No”

Is incredibly confused about why you’re seeking out him for affection.

When you ask him if you can give him a hug, he expects you to just like... Wrap one arm around his shoulders for .2 seconds.

Alright, so uh... I already stopped considering myself a writer tbh, but... Here I am :’) Not sure if anyone’s gonna read it (I mean... there’s not even Small Engine Repair fandom on AO3 so he’s clearly an unpopular character... and the story’s not even smutty so it’s definitely not gonna be popular xDD), but I just had this idea about Swaino for a while and decided to get it out of my system. “Sometimes it feels good to be back,” you catch yourself thinking as you take another sip of your beer.

Life is unpredictable indeed. This morning when you were driving your car on the way to the small town you were born and raised in, you were full of doubts. Do you really have to attend this thing? High school reunions are overrated. Not that you hated school or have bad memories about it… Actually the memories are mostly rather nice, but… It’s been so long since you left, and you weren’t in contact with any of your classmates. You saw some of their pages on facebook, and just couldn’t find anything in common any longer. It’s crazy how life pulls you in different directions and in the end it’s like you’re from totally different worlds. What are you gonna talk about anyways?.. But even though the idea seemed questionable, this morning you still found yourself on the road. Partly it was curiosity, partly this nostalgic feeling, the excitement of walking the streets you knew so well as a kid but haven’t seen in ages… And also you just needed some distraction since life has been rather stressful for the past few weeks. You felt like drowning in the work routine and the prospect of escaping for a while to the place of your young and carefree days seemed not so bad.

But if someone told you this morning that you’re gonna end up in a karaoke bar drinking beer and giggling quietly at the hilarious singing talents of people on stage, you’d be really surprised. And you’d be even more surprised to learn that you’re gonna be in this bar with Terrance Swaino.

Oh man, Terrance Swaino… You haven’t seen him since high school, not even on facebook. But you still recognised him immediately. You and him never really used to hang out together - you were way too different. You were a good girl at school. Not really a nerd, but rather quiet, you studied well and never caused problems. And Swaino… Well, you couldn’t call him a bad guy, but… He definitely was someone who could get you (and himself) in trouble. He wasn’t stupid, but he never had excellent marks, prefering to fool around rather than studying. You didn’t really interact with Swaino until that time a teacher paired you up for a chemistry project.

The feelings you used to have for this guy you couldn’t explain even now, being a grown up woman. Did you have a crush on him? No, definitely you didn’t. But there certainly was some sort of mutual attraction, and neither of you knew what to do with it. This guy used to drive you mad sometimes, made you roll your eyes and think “oh god, what an idiot!..” And yet, truth be told - you liked him way more than you wanted to admit. Hell, you even went to a school dancing night together once, and that night, it was almost… Romantic? It didn’t go any further though, because you and Swaino? Come on. You would make the weirdest couple ever...

Anyway, back to the present day and the high school reunion. You see Swaino, and he sees you. And before you know what’s happening, before you even open your mouth to say hi, he hugs you, and it’s one of those bear hugs that make you suddenly feel small against the man’s frame. He even lifts you up a little, causing you to gasp in surprise.

“I’ll be damned, look who’s there! Y/n, is it really you??”

“I think so, yes,” you giggle at his excitement. “Hey there, Terrance Swaino.”

“Wow… Look at you!” he clicks his tongue, observing you for a few seconds, an expression of pure joy and amusement on his face. “You’ve changed.”

“And you’re still the same, except for the beard,” you say, and he laughs at your simple joke before saying with sudden seriousness:

“It’s good to see you again.”

“Yeah, it’s good to see you too.”

The party goes on as it should. You meet people you used to know. There are smiles and small talks, you learn about their jobs, families and kids, tell them about yourself. You were right, there’s nothing much in common between you now. But Swaino… You feel a different kind of vibe from him. Like you both don’t really belong here.

He finds you again at some point, when you’re already considering getting back to your hotel, and suggests going to the bar. You hesitate for a moment, and then...

And then this bastard smiles. No, he grins, and suddenly for a moment you literally see that boy from school. The boy you wanted to punch and to kiss equally badly sometimes. The boy who actually kissed you once, and it happened to be your very first kiss. That charming dumbass. Yep, he’s changed for sure, you lied when you say he didn’t. He’s got these wrinkles at the corners of his eyes now when he smiles like that, and somehow it makes him even more adorable. This smile left you no chance to say no.

So now you’re here, having another pint. You know you’re getting pretty close to your drinking limit, but for now you’re still in control. You feel a bit tipsy, but in a pleasant way; relaxed and cheerful. It’s been a while since you went out last time, and you’re just enjoying the night and Swaino’s company. People keep coming up on stage, they sing, mostly badly, but no one cares - a typical karaoke night.

“Shit,” Terrance laughs to himself, taking another sip. “Can’t believe I’m hanging here in this bar with you .”

“Huh?” You raise your eyebrow. “Why’s that?”

“Are you kidding me?” He chuckles. “You were always so quiet at school, not much of a party goer.”

“Well, things change,” you shrug.

“You still look kinda too serious for this place, you know,” he teases, licking his lips.

“Oh yeah?” Maybe it’s just the alcohol that has such an effect on you, but you suddenly feel slightly offended. “You know what? You don’t know me, Swaino.”

Grabbing your glass, you finish your beer at one go and give him a smirk before getting on your feet.

“Wha… W-wait, what are you doing?..” You hear him mumbling as you decidedly make your way towards the stage. Karaoke isn’t really your thing but tonight you’re drunk enough to be a little adventurous. Swaino silently follows you, looks in amusement as you turn the catalogue pages searching for the song.

“Noo… You’re not gonna do it!”

“You bet your ass I will!”

The song is Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life - for some reason it’s the first thing that caught your eye. When you’re on stage with the microphone in your hand, you feel a slight rush of panic, but the look on Swaino’s face, both amused and terrified, is so hilarious that it makes you forget the fear. Fuck it. No one knows you, and no one gives a shit after all, everyone’s just having fun.

And you sing. You’re not sure if you sing well, but it’s fun, and people sing with you, and damn, you really enjoy yourself, huh?

“YEAH!!” Swaino screams, as the song is over and the audience gives you a round of applause. “THAT’S MY GIRL Y’ALL!!!” And you feel almost like some kind of a rockstar… Until you suddenly trip on your way back down from the stage. Alcohol did, in fact, play its dirty trick on you.

Swaino’s large hands save you from falling on the floor.

“Whoa, ma’am… Guess someone needs a bit of air, huh?” He scoffs before literally pulling you over his shoulder to carry away.

“Fuck off, Swaino, put me down!” You try to protest, but he’s bigger and stronger than you, and he puts you back on your feet only when you’re outside.

“Idiot,” you mutter, but as you look at his face and his adorably tousled hair, you can’t help but smile.

“Easy! I actually saved your ass here,” he retorts. “How’s your leg, by the way? Can you walk?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” you make a couple of careful steps. “Thanks for catching me.”

“Anytime. Consider it stage-diving.”

“Always wanted to try it.”

“Who knew you’re such a rock star now,” Swaino chuckles. “Love it though. You were great.”

“Good to know.” You feel the heat on your cheeks at his words and the way he says it. Oh no. You can’t be into him after all those years… Or can you?..

“Wanna get back to the bar?” he asks after a little pause.

“No, you actually were right - I do need some air,” you admit.

“Okay. Well, if your leg is fine we could take a little walk around the neighborhood,” he suggests. “I bet you missed good old Manch Vegas.”

You end up sitting on the bench at the top of the hill. From here you could see the lights of the downtown, and you always found this place beautiful. In your teenage years, it was also a popular dating place. Guys would drive the girls here to make out in the car at the sunset… Or not only to make out, according to gossip. But apparently the times have changed, and on this Friday night you and Terrance are here all alone.

You sit in silence for a while. The view from the hill is still truly lovely, but you just can’t help glancing at him. The wind is playing with his messy dark hair, and somehow at this moment he seems so beautiful to you. You’re not sure if it’s the alcohol, or your teenage memories… Or just the magic of the night. Or a bit of everything.

“Hey, Swaino.”

“Huh?” He gives you a questioning look.

“You know you were my first kiss, right?”

“No shit, really?..”

“Yep,” you nod.

“Well… Basically… You were my first kiss as well. I mean like the first real one… Kinda…” he shrugs, letting out a small laugh.

“Seriously?” you raise your eyebrows. “I thought you were an experienced guy.”

“Nah. I just wanted to look cool.”

“I see.”

You both laugh quietly at the memory.

“Anyway, how was it?” Swaino asks suddenly.

“How was what?” You give him a puzzled look.

“Well, the kiss. I did good?”

“Oh, that… Man…” you hide your face in your palms for a moment before looking at him again. “That was… Actually, REALLY awkward.”

“Was it?”

“Uh huh. You just… I think you… didn’t really know what to do with your tongue,” you snort a laugh.

“Ah, shit.” He shakes his head and you laugh again, together.

“You know…” Swaino starts, after a short pause. “I uh… I think I got better with my tongue now.”

“Really?” You try to play it cool, but your heart nearly skips a beat when you hear yourself saying “You got a proof?”

“I guess.”

With this he leans in closer, and there it is - this precious moment when you already know it’s happening, and the anticipation almost makes you shiver. A gentle bump of your noses against each other, a light scratch of his beard on your skin, and finally, finally his lips capture yours.

Damn. It feels great. From the very beginning. You expected him to be rough, but he kisses you with a sudden tenderness, he is unhurried, and yet pretty much determined, as you can feel his large palm cupping the back of your neck, urging you to move even closer. The way his tongue presses against yours, shamelessly claiming your mouth, that barely heard low moan escaping him as he savors the kiss, the way he holds you - all this is hot, and yet so sweet it makes you melt.

“So… Did I make any progress?” His voice is slightly hoarse as he draws back a tiny bit, still so close you can feel his breath on your lips.

“You… sure did,” you mumble, reaching out and letting your fingers sink into the softness of his hair. “Don’t be too full of yourself though, Terrance Swaino.”

His extremely content chuckle tells you he actually is quite full of himself and you want to punch him for a second, like in good old school days when you weren’t so sure if you liked him or hated him. But when he kisses you again, nothing else matters any longer.

Sometimes it feels good to be back.

Life disappears in the blink of an eye, but the memories created and the human connection formed does not. The memories created are embedded in our hearts and follow us through different paths of life. Whether those memories are good or bad, they become something we reflect on in later moments.

Nishimura Riki couldn’t exactly remember the first time he met you but all he knew was that he had never hit off with someone the way he did with you.

September 2012

Although Niki couldn't pinpoint the exact date you guys started talking, he knew it was in September of 2012. He knew at first he disliked you and wanted nothing to do with you because you had stolen his spot on the swings.

“That's my spot, I told Jay I was going to stay here forever,” he said while his friend who was behind him nodded enthusiastically, backing him up.

“Your name is not on it and you didn’t buy it so why should I leave?” you asked him without coming down because you got there fair and square.

“I called dibs on it,” he said while puffing out his chest.

“Dibs are for babies,” you say while continuing to swing. “I’m not a baby,” he retorts.

“If you say so, then why are you wearing a Talking Tom T-Shirt?” you ask and his face begins to turn red. “It's cool, isn't it Jay?” he nudges his friend asking him for support. “Cool man, girls just suck” Jay responds and they both leave. “At least I dress myself!” you yell at their retreating figures

After that day, Niki made it his mission to disturb you every day and never wore his Talking Tom shirt again after that day.

August 2016

“Niki!!” you screamed as you felt another water balloon hit your leg. At this point, your entire body was soaked. The young boy continued to laugh and run as you chased him. You were beginning to regret spending your summer break with him when you could be watching TV instead. Eventually, you give up chasing the blond-haired boy and go into the house to dry off. Thirty minutes later, Niki comes in with a bottle of orange juice as a form of apology. You snatch it without further thought and drink it. Looking up at him after you finish drinking it, you both burst into a fit of laughter. “You’re lucky I love food,” you say. Maybe spending the summer with him wouldn't be so bad.

December 2018

Your crush on Niki was painfully obvious to everyone but him. Your friends teased you, his friends teased you yet when you were together you denied it with so much vigour. Niki had liked you for a few months now. Everyone was enjoying the slow burn that was going on between the two of you; the soft glances across the room, the way you always looked for each other among crowds, the way he knew where your secret birthmark was even though your close friends didn’t.

It was the way you complimented each other that made everyone cringe and aw at the same time. The jacket you got him for his birthday was his most prized piece of clothing and the only person he let touch it was his mum. This year though, you gathered enough courage and told him how he meant to you and how you were content with being just friends even if it hurt a little. But you weren’t expecting Niki to say he felt the same way, even more so. Your friends heaved a sigh of relief and choruses of ‘Finally’ were echoed.

It felt good being with someone.

January 2019

Everyone argued with people they loved right? Your parents did, the old lady that sells fruit and her boyfriend did so you and Niki weren’t an exception. After being childhood friends for so long you’d think you could trust each other enough to talk about the things that bothered you but he refused to, claiming that he didn’t want you to see him in a different light and how it would hurt his pride. You would tell him that no one knew him more and cared about him the way you did. At times, you’d let it go not wanting to push him but that day you couldn’t take it.

“We need to talk. Why have you been avoiding me these past few days?” you asked him.

“I’ve just been busy” he replied.

“No, you’ve been avoiding me. I know you well enough to know when you're hiding something” you said.

He wouldn't budge, he never did especially when you cornered him like this. He started to get irritated and said, “I said I’ve been busy so forgive me if I can’t give you attention all the time. Not all of us are as clingy as you” You winced; it was your fault for pushing him to the edge like that. Nevertheless, you wouldn't give up. “ I just want you to say how you feel and what bothers you. I’d never look at you in a different light and you know that. You might want to be strong but it’s okay to show some sort of emotion, it doesn’t make you weak rather it makes you look like someone that acknowledges what is wrong and doesn’t try to ignore the problem or solve it on their own” you comforted him. As the words entered his ears, you could see the walls surrounding his heart crumbling. “It’s okay to ask for help or just to rant to someone. Even if we won’t be able to provide an immediate solution, it should help” you added taking a few steps forward and grabbing a hold of his hands. You squeezed them tightly.

“I...I’m just scared you’ll leave once you see the not so perfect side of me” he managed to say. “I will stay with you, why don’t we make the best of everything without worrying about the future?” you asked while smiling. He returned it and pulled you in for a hug. “Thank you, truly,” he said and you smiled under his embrace.

After a few minutes you spoke up, “Oh yeah, Niki?” you called his attention and he hummed in response. “Don’t ever shout at me like that again, I can deck you and you know it” you said.

“Got it, boss. Sorry for being a jerk”

June 2020

You usually went on diets and exercised a lot but you were losing weight at an extreme rate and you weren’t even on a diet. Niki was worried but you brushed it off telling him it was stress from school but it got worse. You found it difficult for you to balance yourself, you felt nauseated, getting even more frequent headaches and being tired all the time so Niki decided that enough was enough and took you to the hospital. Neither of you had expected the result of the scans that were run.

“I’m sorry but there is a tumour in your brain,” the doctor said. The air left your lungs. “You can choose to get the surgery and live in the hospital for 8 months or live with the tumour for 3 months” he continued. You thanked him and left the hospital. The elephant in the room was very much alive and neither one of you wanted to address it. Did you want to stay in the hospital for the rest of your life or did you want to say with your loved ones? You thought that they would go through and that won’t be worth it.

“Niki” you called out.

He looked at you with a sad smile and just pulled you in for a hug, careful not to hurt you. “Do you want to tell your parents?” You nodded. You couldn’t just leave without saying anything. Picking your jacket, Niki drove you to your parents house.

“I just wanted you guys to know, I couldn’t just leave without saying anything,” you said with your eyes cast downwards. You couldn’t bear to look at your mom who was already crying or your dad who was blaming himself even when it wasn’t his fault or your sister who was basically your best friend. Niki had given you guys privacy but you knew it was just an excuse for him to be with his own feelings.

“I’m going to stay close to home in the meantime so I can be closer to you guys,” you said. Your eyes were already becoming glossy with tears. You inched towards your mom, taking her hand in yours and said, “You did an amazing job of being my mom and I love you so much”. Moving to your dad, you said “You did a good job of protecting me so don’t think otherwise. Let’s make all the memories we want to now without any regrets”. At that, your sister burst into tears “I… I can’t bear to lose you” Your heart clenched. “I can’t bear to lose you too” She continued crying. Your mom wiped her eyes and said, “From today, live the way you want to. Eat what you want and do what you want.” From the corner of my eye, I saw Niki staring watching the whole scene. After an hour, I stood up and went home with Niki. The car ride was a long and awkward one. When we got home, we just slept hugging each other.

Starting tomorrow I was going to live.

July 2020

The pain is getting worse but the smiles on my family and friends faces are enough to keep me going. I wrote letters and got gifts for them. Niki looks at the calendar every day, I can’t tell him to stop because I can tell he’s hurting so much. Why can’t I just be okay for everyone?

August 2020

The time comes faster, Niki and I went on a getaway for a few days. He deserved a break from everything that has been going on.

September 2020

I never thought I'd die as silly as that sounds. I asked my parents and sister to leave when I got to the hospital. Niki refused to leave and stayed there till I took in my last breath. He kept crying begging me not to go and how he’d do anything.

“Does it hurt a lot?” he asked between sniffles

“No it doesn’t, it just feels like a needle” it hurt like a truck.

“Liar”

I chuckled and held his hand till I couldn’t anymore. “I love you’’ I say as the lights fade.

- has dreams about when he’s hurt and fought you as the winter soldier, he keeps thinking about if Steve wasn’t there to help, he really could’ve killed you and that terrifies him

- even when you tell him it wasn’t him, he appreciates it but still feels horrible about it

- touch that metal arm, but like gently Yknow . Nobody’s ever touched that arm with such kindness and it makes him soft and feel lucky

- speaking of soft Bucky is very soft, there’s many soft moments with Bucky and vulnerability

- it’s easy to be vulnerable with you but not others

- lots of handholding

- he loves hugging you for long periods of time

- still has a staring problem but now Sam openly makes fun of him

- just big dumb smile on his face as he looks at you

- especially when you’re dealing with kids, seeing you be around them makes his heart warm

my humble and for legal reasons sarcastic opinion of the characterization i’ve seen:

the prevailing sangihun dynamic is FALSE. uwu-ified choccy milk babygirl gihun with a moral line he’ll never cross ✨ DOES NOT EXIST. cold-blooded olympic athlete at black friday sales sangwoo with 2 alternating expressions (1.fuck, 2.off) DOES NOT EXIST.

mind that i project needlessly onto my favorite characters, and therefore may understand a fraction of the thoughts running through sangwoo’s head as my mans was slowly rotting alive in his own bathroom. which is to SAY the gifted kid’s fall from grace and the crushing pressure to meet expectations or greet your lifelong friend: Guilt hits a little bit close to home. in this Very critical essay, i’ll share what that’s like. please be warned that it’s heavy stuff (wait, this was supposed to be sarcasm-)

firstly, some screw-ups like us DO end up resorting to extremes to keep up with expectations. the logic is simple: even if it’s a lie, it’s just our weight to bear, isn’t it? often it’s these honor roll kids that are good at cheating, fibbing, and workarounds that carefully maintain the high standard imposed on them since childhood. do we feel AWFUL about it? does it wreak havoc on our mental health and in the long term pose some dangerous self esteem and integrity issues that cause us to spiral even more and damage our relationships…? WELL LEMME TELL YA, I SURE AS HECJK HOPE NOT but sangwoo’s clearly jumped from point A to point Z in that alphabet. he’s VERY much at a stage of misery that would take years to undo by the time of the show.

point is… you’ll notice (especially if you’re One Of Us) that we don’t do this because we stopped caring. often it’s the opposite, that we care a whole stupid lot. a divide starts between the you that deserves love and good things and the you that’s fallen so behind that any harm to them at the expense of loved ones’ pride and the community’s respect is an inconsequential and near masochist price to pay. (self-care also tends to decline, but south korean society is big on the importance of the physical face, so a businessman like sangwoo is understandably well kempt for other reasons.)

to me, pathological liar cho sangwoo hides agony and self-hatred. after every instance in which he’s chosen self-preservation, he ends up choosing his mother’s health and happiness over his own life. his mindset of wiping his worthless self from the equation so something better will replace him is DAMN FOLLY, I SAY!!!! sangwoo doesn’t redeem himself in the finale, he shatters. he thought it was the right choice to rob a mother of her son. what does life have to do to someone to think that? why does it scare me a lot that i’m starting to get an idea…?

what i’m SAYING is that the extremes sangwoo takes in the games are easily a continuity of lying about his residence in america, of siphoning the wealth of others to toss up and lose six billion and somehow never think to try something else. he’s a sick fuck with an attitude, but the Prodigy Turned Asswipe At Rock Bottom trajectory follows REALLY REALLY WELL here. therefore it’s my idea of how he ended up as the guy we see in S1. and you know what that asswipe needs??

A HUG!!!! REAL THERAPY!! and for GIHUN, seemingly the only person he trusts to accept him when he’s completely lost face, to PROVIDE love and support. to let him be weak and tender and NOT. NOT. NOT the callous bastard that came this 🤏 close to total desensitization to violence. imo THIS is the true sangihun dynamic!! one that doesn’t have any coping mechanism attached to it whatsoever!! this version sparks JOY!!! the possessive, domineering, and enigmatic stone face act that fandom interpretations give to a long-term depressed and isolated man doesn’t appeal to me tbh. he shows signs and hints of the altruistic and almost gentle person he can really be (with proper guidance…!)

his name means “helping each other” and while it was chosen to emphasize his contradictions.. maybe it could be a sign? i’ll take more of that sweet sangwoo please <3 my shriveled grinch heart needs it <3 <3 but that’s all i’ll say about that!! to each their own!!!

A LITERAL WALKING RED FLAG??? how did so many shippers miss it COMPLETELY??

ignoring my additional lengthy history with deadbeat dads with an addiction (well, except for the extent to which it colors my opinions here, if you will 🥸) … gihun’s an alright dude at first glance. but the rift between his personality and the violence he encounters is just…. astounding? and deeply troubling, seeing as he’s joking about military ranks like this is a discord RP server after the first round. ahem. the exceedingly ruthless and gruesome first round?? the only other characters we see enjoying themselves to this extent are deok su and his pack - but there’s gang violence history there, so it tracks. but GI HUN??? (funny that his name means “high ranking”)

and not to mention the raging hot topic that was the very last scene. turns his back on the airplane terminal a few STEPS from boarding and JUST AFTER calling his daughter…. for the sake of revenge? for some righteous cause that borders on delusions of grandeur??

well. actually… i think my sangihun agenda can explain that one. which is where my idea of their dynamic from gihun’s POV takes form. (still keeping in mind that these are all opinions! thank you kindly)

gihun’s had experience with the almost primal violence in the lights-out section of the games. he tells ilnam about the protest that happened when he and his coworkers were laid off, where he watched a friend die. when this repeats with allies like saebyeok and most critically with sangwoo, he pretty visibly shuts down. a whole year passes before ilnam’s fucky wucky doctrine and the sight of salesmen recruiting new players shakes him out of it. so there’s already two reasons to be roused to Battinson levels of vengeance, but…? enough to leave gayeong?

enter: the darker implications of gihun coming to a stop just before winning the games. turning back and reaching for sangwoo’s hand. what choices is he making here, and how are they layered? he’s choosing survival, you’d say - he values life over monetary gain, and that’s noble. but… what about his mother’s life? her treatment?

in his last moments, sangwoo’s ultimate motivation is reparations. his purpose for competing was to right his wrongs, namely the years he’s spent deceiving his mother. he feels I’m Human Garbage tier remorse, and this was discussed earlier - in no way does jamming a knife into his neck help the woman he cares about the most! … but it doesn’t negate that his last act was, in his mind, selfless. gihun’s appears to be, too. UNTIL you read it as effectively putting sangwoo’s life above his own mother’s, his own daughter’s love for him, and even his ex-wife’s lack of financial independence.

in the last moments of the game, he chooses sangwoo. his safety is his only motivation - there’s a broken man laying at his feet, wishing they were kids again, and you can see the sorrow and pity in gihun taking over. when that choice gets turned on its head in a few fatal seconds, you can also see his radicalization finish as early as That Scene.

here’s what i mean.

he’s constantly putting sangwoo on a pedestal. i don’t even have to explain - we’ve seen the memes. i’ve become the meme just to annoy my friends. Did you hear? HUH? You don’t know about the SNU genius??!! … it was adorable and all too sobering to watch. but the answer. Is. Right. There!!! he’s a gambling addict doing irregular small jobs, debt-ridden and divorced, on the brink of losing everything else - of course cho sangwoo, the best of the best, the shining example of discipline and achievement, would give him hope? of course it isn’t possible for life to screw over someone so deserving of the most it has to offer? of course sangwoo’s going to be okay, and at least he’ll have him to lean on?

WROMG, SIR. he watches in real time as the system they’ve both become trapped in grinds up the last of sangwoo’s will to go on. he sees the fate of someone who really, truly had it all going for him, and when you’re witness to a death like that - the “long line of Buddhists” in your family may as well end right there. and i saw exactly that in gihun.

which is to say….. S2 gihun, at least to me, sounds like a scary mf. god knows about that hair but, thinking of where he’s coming from, i see a flipped sangihun dynamic (in life or in death, take your pick) as the True Gospel. intensely protective gihun who won’t let sangwoo go off the deep end again, who does everything in his power to get him help and bring his walls down, or in worse cases, avenge the heck out of him. sangwoo smoothing the furious edge in gihun so he doesn’t go off doing a Stupid when his family is perfectly intact and needs him. sangwoo being quicker to embrace normalcy and showing him what to be grateful for. this is just the park i’m in!

i see gihun as the rowdy, bloody-nosed fight-picking kid in their youth. i see sangwoo as the occasional extra pair of fists, but mostly the quiet, nose-in-books boy who was terrible at making friends and content with just the one. and they’re currently my everything :))))))
