Listen, I just want a bit of reassurance that I’m not the only one who spends the majority of my day thinking about, if not reading, fanfiction.
Like, I don’t think you understand -
Watching a movie? = I want that as an AU.
Listening to music? = Daydreaming about fics.
Randomly thinking of a very obscure, specific storyline that I need to read? = Spending a good hour looking for it on ao3, before giving up and realising I’ll just have to write it myself.
HELP ME

maybe it's bc I grew up seeing (and can still see from the outside) how cis men play/joke/fake gayness as a display of domination but yet all somehow knew to avoid actual gayness like the plague (bc the it's so real how cishets manage to know what we are b4 we ourselves do) but I see that exact same "locker room" idea of playing gayness for laughs (usually by violating of sexual boundaries) + treating actual gay love like an unmentionable replicated by the cishets making media
like, look at marvel's iron man thor and gotg movies littered with writing that might nominally be considered "gay" jokes abt men being placed in sexual situations each other (again, often by laughing at the idea of sexual assault/nonconsensual sexualization) but cishet norms don't consider this gay in any real sense. it's the "accepted" way of portraying "gayness" in a way that signals to the audience that it's there to poke fun at the characters and knock 'em down a peg for comedy
This is part of why I rolled my eyes at ppl claiming queerbait at tfatws (completely not knowing what the bait part of the word means). Those "gay" moments in that show were the most classical homophobic dudebro locker room comedy that I've grown to recognize as an extension of the homophobic rough housing culture growing up among cishet boys. Every "moment" was just a Gunn-esque laugh at the male characters being degraded by being put in a position that seems gay against their consent, either by literally falling/rolling into it, by purposeful taunting by a malicious (and shoehorned) character, or literally by the force of the state(state as in governing body). it's meant to be funny in that the cishet culture the comedy comes from dictates that violating men's boundaries with a superficially "homo" act is a way to enforce hierarchy within the group. the jokes come from homophobia (which is why the creators were baffled at the idea of shipping in that show, they recognize the difference between real gayness and their homophobic lockerroom-culture jokes)
This is also why we never see anything even remotely like that between Bucky and Steve, they have genuine love for one another, the same cishet "gay" rough housing culture recognizes that between them it wouldn't be a joke, it'd be actually gay, so they avoided it like the plague. That's why we hardly ever see Bucky and Steve's canon platonic friendship portrayed, it holds actual love for one another that can't be played off by stoicism or homophobic lockerroom-style comedy. They can't do Gunnisms to make it a haha hehe, so the marvel franchise opts to not show the best friends inseparable from playground to battlefield as actual friends. Actual factual, sincere, earnest friendship between men is considered to approximate to gayness by comic book dudebro culture, so they don't show it and then blame gay ppl for "ruining" the platonic make friendships that they were too scared to show because anything more than hooking up with a bunch of interchanging women and meeting up one a year at a bar to talk about the women they've hooked up with is considered to gay by cishet men who still haven't grown out of that homophobic (& misogynistic) locker room culture.
Anon you're so right, and this is also how Tony can be cracking jokes about holding Rhodey's dick in the Avengers movie and no one in the execs room has a gay panic about needing to separate them!
Given that it also had Sharon mocking Bucky for being 'Mr America' tfatws especially seemed to revel in these nasty little homophobic digs. 😥

Stupid lil question:
On Ao3 and here I only see Bucky and Sam’s ship name as WinterFalcon, Sam/Bucky, or Sam x Bucky. It’s possible that I’m just not paying attention. I’m sentient yes but I never said I take in all the information around me.
Because Sam’s name begins with an s, his causal first name ship name with Bucky would be Stucky. But it can’t be because that’s Steve and Bucky’s. And now that Sam has taken on his Captain America role in the MCU his hero ship name with Bucky would be WinterShield, but it can’t be that since that’s Steve and Bucky’s.
So my question is what is Sam and Bucky’s updated ship name? Or are we sticking with WinterFalcon?
I don’t think we should since Sam is now Captain America. I suggest their casual to be “Bam” -cause obvious reasons and it’s cute- and their hero one to be “CaptainWinter” or we go with Bucky’s new title of White Wolf and it could be “WolfShield.” OR my fav idea is “WinterWings.”
Pls tell me if I just haven’t been paying attention and they do have a ship name besides WinterFalcon.
Edit: thank you to @me1och for commenting and correcting me. it would be “sucky” not stucky. there’s no t! my brain isn’t always on all the way lol

Look, I really like MCU Stucky and it is a good ship, but some of the shippers sometimes make it so hard. They spend time hating on other ships like Steggy and SamBucky, which are ships I also like. I also don’t like that they won’t acknowledge that yes, Steve fell in love with Peggy and was still in love with her in the present, I also think that he would still be in love with Peggy if he had fallen love with Bucky because I think that Steve could love more than one person. Let Steve and Bucky fall in love with more than one person, there is nothing wrong with that.

Steve: Bucky flipped me off :(
Bucky: It's a formal greeting nowadays
Steve: Who told you that?
Sam: LMAO

samstevebucky is a wonderful ship and every ship within it is great in its own right but you absolute dogshits will not stop using sam as stucky’s therapist and therefore you don’t get to write it anymore unless you treat sam right

what's the Any Two White Dicks Disease, may i ask? from your post about the podcast using destiel as an example
it's when a fandom moves heaven & earth to ship two white men, usually while ignoring characters of color, especially main characters of color, romantic interests of color, canon interracial relationships, characters who actually interact in canon but aren't white, ect. imagine digging a needle out of a haystack, but the needle is two white men you can smash together like barbie dolls after a 1000 hour search and rescue operation.

So today I learnt that stucky is queer coding but samBucky isn’t because uh, disney, something something, I guess them rolling together in a field, Bucky moving to Delacroix to be with Sam, etc somehow is less queer than Steve going back to the past to be with his girlfriend and leaving Bucky behind like, that’s true love.
I’m going to tag this stucky because god knows stucky shippers want my unsolicited opinion on their ship, right?!

not mcu film bros trying to convince us that the final act of civil war was a 'masterpiece'.
the final act of civil war tried to push the narrative that steve and tony had a friendship equivalent to steve and bucky, when it's obvious from every other movie they were in together that steve and tony were work acquaintances at best. they tolerated one another, but they were never as close as civil war tried to make us believe they were.
like when steve said 'he's my friend' and tony said 'so was i', that's not even remotely true. that's tony actively trying to put himself on the same level as bucky in steve's life. earlier in that same movie, tony tried to use steve's sentiment towards howard to get him to sign the sokovia accords by bringing howard's pen for either him or steve to use. that's not something friends do.

hello! my name is Megan, i am 20 years old, and my pronouns are she/her.
I’m looking for any literate writer who is also over 18 to roleplay some of my fave ships and a range of different themes with me! I need a dominant top for any of these ships (i play bottom/ switch only), the ones in bold are the ones I play as (any with both means I'm fine playing as either):
Steve x Bucky
Sam x Bucky
Thor x Steve
Thor x Bruce/Hulk
i am a big fan of aus and canon divergences, and am open to pretty much anything! i tend to write 2 - 3 lines and i usually respond within 24 hours (if not, i will give you notice) :-)
if you’re interested, feel free to add my discord @ SeductiveGODofThunder#8619, or send me a message here and we can get it set up!
if you’d like to see samples of my writing, i am fine with that as well! i can send you screenshots of the two rp styles I use!
i look forward to hearing from you if you’re interested :-)
