me finding out that the new guardians of the galaxy was a found family extravaganza touching on all their respective trauma complete with practical effects & a bitching soundtrack, they didn’t push starmora respecting gamora’s autonomy and the fact that it wasn’t the gamora peter fell in love w, and peter finally reunited with his grandpa (and I can’t go and see it bc I was worried it’d be a flop and now I am living in a remote area for my summer job)

5 Songs I Actually Listen To
🎶✨when you get this you have to put 5 songs you actually listen to, publish. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool) 🎶✨
Thank you to @amelia-mariee for tagging me! (I know this is late, Tumblr is against me constantly and never shows me tags <3) I actually got excited seeing this because I’ve never really shared my music taste on here.
5.
I love Vacations as a whole, I literally love this song and it’s even a song I have in a headcanon with Starmora for some reason. I happen to listen to this when I’m driving or traveling somewhere. It’s always a song that either puts me in a mellowed out mood or a sad one, which I’m fine with either. It’s been a favorite of mine for awhile.
4.
I actually have this on vinyl, I’m a vinyl collector and couldn’t pass Tame Impala’s music down as it allows me to like different styles of music that I can’t seem to find anywhere else. It makes my brain work sometimes in ways I can’t understand. (Also this song just hits home for me sometimes)
3.
I always find myself going back to this song, why? Because it’s a summer vibe for me. I’ve never liked anyone in my whole life, so I find it charming that I like music that talks about liking someone or just romance in general. I hope one day I can actually enjoy my music taste with a significant other but we’re not going to talk about it LOL.
2.
Alfie templeman. He’s one of the few artist I listen to that I can listen to every single playlist without having to skip a song (I also snagged this one and a couple others from my Starmora playlist) he’s so pleasing to the ears. It’s amazing how well his music sounds to me.
1.
Finally, Fleetwood Mac. I actually have the vinyl of this album on my list of records I need to get, but the main reason I love this song so much is because of GOTG v2. I feel like every time I watch that movie there’s a reason why they chose to play that song when Quill decides to fight his dad, I mean, James always has a reason for picking these songs and I always believe it’s because of family bondage, abandonment. It’s about overcoming what family trauma has chained up and I love it for that. Everytime this song comes on and I have my Guardians playlist on shuffle, I’m singing along. It’s my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac song (besides Everywhere, of course)
Honorable mentions:
I have a couple of songs that go together, they’re not going to have a reason but I would like to list them and go off script a bit.
- What once was by Hers
- Stargazing by The Neighborhood
- Blue Monday by The Order
- And Eyes Without A Face by Billy Idol
No pressure tags!

Idk if anyone agrees, but I feel like the love for starmora has grown since Vol 3 came out.
if we're talking in terms of like, the fandom growing and there being more fan content and stuff abt them, i'd probably (gently) disagree. nothing will ever beat the peak starmora hype that was the vol 2 to iw era (summer 2017 - summer 2018). for example there were much more fanfics and more visibly organized fandom spaces/events, like starmora week and discord servers and such. the 4 year drought for canon starmora content (on top of the general 3.5 year gap between mainline gotg content [aka excluding what if]) def played a large role in this
over those years, most of those folks have moved on to other fandoms or have just moved on from fandom social media entirely, while some have remained or returned after vol 3. there are some newer faces as well (esp those who were much younger when vol 1 and vol 2 came out, which makes me feel so old but happy!!!!) but overall i think things are quite different now from back then. like ever since iw it's been hard to even navigate gotg fanfic tags without being inundated with avengers centric content 😭

I don't know what it is about me and shipping but somehow.... my ships always have the biggest, most humongous angst potential energy... either that or i just have an overactive imagination that just wants me to be sad all the time...
So in conclusion... i love angst.
I may forgot some of my other ships on the tags.... that or it's because i surpassed the 30 tag limit but either way, you guys can message or ask me if you want me to elaborate on the ships and i can make a post... or a fic once inspiration kicks in

This love will stay and linger (GOTG fic)
Starmora week 2018 Day 1 - Summer trip
Summary: Gamora huffing and puffing as she laid on the hood of the car like she was being crucified or something wasn’t exactly how he imagined this road trip going. He hadn’t imagined the flat tire either.
All he had to do was replace the tire, but Peter had no idea just how whiny an overheated Gamora could be.
(Or roadtrip + late night swim + warm snuggles = starmora love)

This love will stay and linger ________________________
Gamora huffing and puffing as she laid on the hood of the car like she was being crucified or something wasn’t exactly how he imagined this road trip going. He hadn’t imagined the flat tire either. Really, it had been going fine until then. That was when it all went off rails.
Thankfully all they had to do was pull over so Peter could replace the blown tire with the spare in the trunk, but somebody wasn’t happy with how long it was taking.
“Peter, your world is too hot,” Gamora whined. Again. She had been complaining about the temperature the whole time. For someone who was supposedly good at handling extreme temperatures, this was taking a lot out of her. He was the one who usually whined about atmospheric conditions or the weather when they were out on missions, not her.
“It’s so hot, I hate it,” she groaned, sounding like she was dying a slow death. Which, come on, was more than a little over dramatic.
“Seriously?” Peter exclaimed, more in disbelief than actual frustration. “Missouri is where you have temperature problems? Says the woman who was in deep space and covered in ice for nearly two minutes and came to just fine afterwards?”
“It’s too hoooottttt,” Gamora whined even louder, trying to drown out the sound of his voice.
“Oh my god, how are you so whiny right now?” He wasn’t magic- he couldn’t just blink and suddenly things would be fixed. Apparently Gamora didn’t have any patience for the time and work it took though.
Peter wiped the sweat from his brow with his forearm- almost done replacing the tire. Thank god there was an instruction manual with the spare in the back. He wasn’t exactly used to fixing up Terran vehicles, and Gamora definitely would have complained a whole bunch more if he had to fiddle and figure it all out himself. Now it was just the sun bearing down on him, and even he was starting to get a little cranky. “You know, next time you try and brag about how you can withstand 80 different types of torture so of course you should be the first choice on the next high risk hostile mission, I’m gonna bring this up. 80 different types of torture my ass,” Peter muttered under his breath. “This is Missouri! You have absolutely nothing to say about my Terran physiology ever again if I can withstand this and you can’t. How’s that for weak physiology, huh?”
She lifted her head up enough to glare down at him kneeling by the front left tire.
“My species is not suited to temperatures this high,” Gamora told him haughtily, narrowing her eyes. “Humans are weird if this is normal to you. Zehoberi do not do high heat. We are particularly sensitive to that side of the extreme. And this is extreme. This is ridiculously hot,” she grimaced. He had a feeling that if she could glare the sun into submission, she would do it in a heartbeat. She sighed then, shaking her head almost woefully. “I don’t know how you can function in this. I am this close to passing out. Next comes organ failure. I am going to kill you if I end up dying on the side of this empty road in Missouri after surviving saving the galaxy a million freaking times. If I die from overheating instead of in the middle of an epic space battle, I am going to kill you so hard.”
Apparently an overheated Gamora is a whiny (and dramatic) Gamora, and sounds exactly like a whiny Peter Quill. Using such a big hyperbole and the word freaking in the same breath- the same sentence even- yeah, that was 100% his influence.
Peter dropped his tool on the ground, standing up so he could actually see her and check on how she was doing spread out on the hood.
“Is it really that bad?” He asked, a note of concern edging into his voice. “Heat’s really that bad for Zehoberis? Is it really that bad right now? How worried should I be?”
Gamora lazily opened one eye to look at him, looking more like a cat sunbathing than someone close to perishing. His head blocked out the sun though, so she didn’t even have shade her eyes as she looked up at him.
“Things are not really that dire,” she said, admitting to her tiny over exaggeration, and Peter sighed in relief. “But yes, Zehoberis and heat do not mix. You’re almost done, and then we can turn on the air conditioning. I am fine for now, but I cannot tolerate heat for sustained periods. I just cannot maintain this level of heat for extended periods,” she rephrased, revising her statement for accuracy. “It would be another hour before things get critical. Even then, I would simply fall unconscious in my body’s attempt to reduce my energy output. I’d get delirious first, though,” Gamora added with a shrug, almost as a second thought. “Trust me, you’d be able to tell if it was time to worry.”
“How come I never knew that about you before?” Peter asked, settling back down on the ground so he could actually get this wheel on properly and they could get out of there.
Gamora thought for a second. “We’ve never been in a place this hot for this long. Any higher temperature planet we’ve always had a cool ship to stay on. It’s never been a problem before,” she tilted her head side to side, mulling it over. Since she’d lost his head blocking out the sun she’d closed her eyes again, and even laid her arm across her face, because it was still so bright through her closed eyelids. Seriously, what was wrong with this planet? No one should live under a sun this unyielding. “And probably because I can withstand higher temperatures than your body can. I am better at withstanding extremely high temperatures than you- just for short periods of time. Small bursts. You’ve probably never known because I am always the first choice for high temperature aspects on missions because I can withstand extreme temperatures and remain coherent and competent. I function the best of all of us in extreme heat situations, and can get in get out quick. You would pass out in two minutes in a 12 kant environment. You would be dead within nine. Same goes for Drax in a 13 or 14 kant environment. While I can maintain functionality in 17 kants for a quarter of an hour. But I suppose it’s like that- that thing said. With all the- all the earth facts,” Gamora pressed her lips together, trying to remember the fuzzy details. Her memory was already starting to lag behind mid-ramble from exposure to this insufferable heat. Oh well, she knew he knew what she was talking about. She was talking about the thing. “How humans and cheetahs are the best runners of land species on this planet. The growly animal is the fastest, with short bursts of speed. But humans are the best long distance runners at a sustained speed. I’ll confess, I was surprised by that fact. Anyways, when it comes to heat, I am the cheetah in this scenario, and you are the human in this scenario. You’re the human in every scenario,” she laughed to herself after she heard what she said. Snickered to herself, more like it- like it was the funniest thing in the world.
Gamora suddenly stuck her arm straight up and wiggled it in the air. “It feels like… maybe 8 kants right now,” she estimated, feeling the heat on her skin. Though she could be off (it was very likely, actually) since her mental faculties were already beginning to suffer what with not being able to remember what the earth fact thing they saw was. Luckily, no one was going to quote her on her exact temperature estimation skills right now. She didn’t need to be precise. “Yes, I will be fine enough for an hour or so. I would probably lose consciousness not long after, though. Humans are insane. You consider this temperature livable? What did Terrans do before they invented air conditioning?”
“Gamora, we didn’t have air conditioning when I was a kid,” Peter laughed, loud and full.
Gamora gasped in shock, rolling onto her side to look down at him still working on the tire, to see if he was joking. He wasn’t. The horrified look on her face just about doubled when she realized he was telling the truth.
“Well, the school did, and most of the shops in town,” he clarified, “Just, we were really poor, and our old farmhouse didn’t have air conditioning. Going swimming in lakes during the summer when it was hot as hell was pretty much the go to way to escape the heat. Sometimes my mom would bring the garden hose to the front and we’d play in the water, or she’d set up the sprinkler and I’d try to jump over it, or any number of inane games I invented as a kid. Open windows and lots of fans at night were pretty much a necessity to get to sleep. But yeah, this temperature is pretty livable. I grew up in this temperature. I’d play for hours in this temperature, then relax in the shade for some time to cool off with an ice cold drink, then go right on back to playing.”
“Humans are weird,” Gamora intoned.
“So you’ve told me.” ________________
It was less than five minutes later that Peter was loading everything up in the trunk and they were getting back in the car and blasting the AC.
Gamora sighed and slipped into the front seat, undoing her braid so she could use the tie to put her hair up in a loose bun on the top of her head, effectively freeing up the heat trap on the back of her neck.
Peter, meanwhile, was just dripping with sweat, from changing a stupid tire while being scorched by the sun. He would kill for an ice cold drink right about now. He still had sweat dripping down the back of his neck, gathered on his brow, and he could even feel how drenched his shirt was on his upper back.
“Ugh,” he groaned, pulling his shirt up to his face and wiping off as much sweat as he could. When he glanced back over at Gamora, she had a deep, almost thoughtful look on her face that he didn’t understand.
“What?” He asked warily, wondering if he should be worried about getting another physiology lesson.
“I like this,” Gamora said, lazily reaching out, moving her hand up and down to make it clear that the this was all of him.
“What?” Peter laughed almost hysterically. “You mean me? Right now? I’m so frickin’ sweaty right now, Gamora. Seriously. Have you seen the back of my shirt? Drenched. I’m covered in sweat.”
“Mhmm,” she hummed. Gamora sat up slightly, like she was about to lean over to him, but apparently it was a struggle much harder than she thought it would be, like it took too much energy- much more than she was expecting- because she gave up in less than two seconds.
He didn’t even know what she was trying to do, but it made him want to laugh. She looked so cute with her little pouty face of determination.
Gamora pushed herself up again, this time sliding along the back of her seat til she was leaning over towards him.
“I like this,” she said again, following a trickle of sweat down his temple with her finger. “Looks like ‘d taste good,” she murmured, and Peter’s adam's apple bobbed.
She dragged her finger along the trail of his sweat droplet, down his throat, to the sweat that had collected on his collarbone. She swiped it up on her finger, which she then put in her mouth.
Peter’s breath hitched- that or he stopped breathing- he wasn’t exactly sure.
“I was right,” Gamora told him with a smug tone.
“Holy fuck,” he gulped. “Don’t tell me heat makes you horny too.”
“No. You make me horny. Heat makes me want to kill things. I am feeling delightfully cool right now. I love air conditioning.” She sighed, sinking back into her seat and basking in the cold blasts of air. ________________
It was in the low 80s that night, so they went for a swim in the pool at the place they were staying. Funnily enough, Peter never forgot the Fahrenheit temperature scale. Or really, it immediately came back when they got here. He thought he remembered back when he was a kid in school all his teachers saying they were going to have to learn a different way of measuring temperature, but three decades later and it looked like that still hadn’t happened yet.
He remembered mom got him an outside thermometer to put on the porch, one that was shaped like a little frog, so he could see when it was over 100 degrees instead of asking her “It sure feels hot, huh?” Like he had heard adults do when making conversation.
There was a major heat wave that summer, the year he was taken. There were a lot of days over 100, more than there had been in a long time, Momma said. He remembered how excited he was when he brought his mom out on the porch to look at his frog thermometer when it said 108 degrees. She looked down at him, ruffled his hair, and smiled, “Sure is hot, huh, baby?”
It was pretty hot today too, but the water was cool, and Gamora said the evening air was pleasantly warm, so they went for a little swim. They had booked a room at this little motel, and the pool didn’t have any hours posted, so yeah, they went for a late night swim. Well, technically they were in the hot tub, not the pool, but the hot tub wasn’t on or anything. They just kinda wanted to sit together in the cool water and talk and look up at the sky, so that’s exactly what they did. ________________
“I always thought earth would be the perfect temperature,” Gamora hummed, resting her head back on his shoulder
Although she was much more amenable to the current temperature, after nightfall it became merely warm, rather than unbearably hot. She liked it much better now.
She also liked Peter behind her, his arms wrapped around her as she reclined against his chest, and just let her legs float or idly kick as he held onto her. She got to lie back almost on the water’s surface, and rest her head on his shoulder so they could look at the stars together. “How wrong I was,” she noted with a soft chuckle.
Peter nuzzled into her neck, a wonderful contrast to the cool water that night. “And why is that?” He asked glibly, his voice low and teasing as he nipped at her and nibbled her earlobe. “Why’d you make that assumption? That earth would be the perfect temperature for your species?”
“You,” Gamora answered easily, without a second thought. She didn't need to think about it at all. “You are always the perfect amount of warm in the middle of the night. Just the right temperature to always feel warm and safe and inviting. You always have a draw-me-in warmth. It's hard to imagine the place where you were from could be any different. But earth is intolerable. I thought it'd be the perfect temperature like you are. You are always just the right amount of heat to curl around me in the middle of the night. I never imagined the place you come from could be so… uncomfortable. You're my favorite source of heat. I can't believe you come from this miserable planet.”
Peter laughed at that, genuine and true, and Gamora was sure his laughter was one of her favorite things to hear- it always filled her with a feeling of home.
“Well, glad to be of service,” he joked, fingers twirling in her wet hair. “Though they’ve got lots of varied climates on earth. I guess Missouri is one of the hot places, though not the hottest by far. We still get snow here. But there are places on earth that are so cold they're covered in snow year round. We’ll just have to get you to one of those places.”
It sounded like a promise, the way he said it. And Gamora had to admit, she liked the sound of that. ________________
“Peter?” Gamora reached up to languidly card her fingers through his hair, flicking out the wet droplets at the ends from when he had dunked his head underwater. She knew they’d probably be getting out soon. But he looked so breathtaking right now, the moonlight reflecting off the surface of the water and onto his face, softening his features into something hazy and almost glowing as the surface rippled from her movements. He was beautiful, she thought.
“Hmm?” He tilted his head down at her, and if she thought his face was beautiful, then she didn’t have a word for the look of love and contentment in his eyes.
“I’m glad we came on this trip,” she said sincerely, fingers tracing along his jaw before cupping his cheek.
She swore she saw his eyes twinkle as he smiled. Peter leaned in and brushed his lips against hers in featherlight whisper of a kiss.
“Even though the car broke down,” she added when their lips parted, though it was completely unnecessary.
“Popped a tire,” he corrected, and kissed her again. ________________
“I don’t want to go back,” Gamora confessed quietly, laying in bed together that night. They had long since dried off from their late night swim and settled into bed together, curling up under the covers. They only had two days left on this road trip. Then it was back to their real lives. Always in danger, in missions or battles, one explosion after one fight after another.
She loved their family, she really did- she loved the home they’ve created with the Guardians. It’s just- something about the past three days with Peter, cruising around in the earth car, this road trip with just the two of them, absolutely carefree and nothing to worry about- it’s been magical. And unreal. Like a dream she’d been incredibly present for, and she’s never been happier, like they’ve been in their own little world.
She hasn’t felt like Gamora, last of the Zehoberis these past few days.
She’s just felt happy.
It’s been so nice being able to abandon all cares and responsibilities, being able to exist in this life where they were just two normal people in love the past few days.
She wished she could freeze time in this moment forever.
She wanted them to stay here.
Gamora liked being a Guardian of the Galaxy, she liked going on missions, figuring things out, saving people who no one else could, and she loved the rest of their family.
She still thought it would be nice to stay here with Peter forever, curled up in this hotel bed for the rest of time. Have a normal life. With him.
It’s been so nice these past few days. She knew it was just a fantasy, that they’d ever really be able to continue on and on like this, but it was a really nice fantasy. She wanted to stay in their own little world.
She pulled the covers tighter around her shoulders, feeling a sudden sense of vulnerability, and moved closer to him, nestling right up against him, really. Peter’s warmth always was the perfect comfort late at night, and now was no exception. Having him close always made her feel safe.
Peter’s fingertips trailed as her temple, almost caressing the soft stray hairs that framed her face with such an incredible amount of care. He gave her a bittersweet, heartrending, and utterly understanding smile. Gamora’s eyelashes fluttered to a close under the weight of his gaze.
His chest absolutely ached at her expression, at the longing in her voice. He was thinking the exact same thing too, feeling the exact same feeling he could see in her eyes.
He wanted this to never end. It was nice to pretend that they could ever have a normal life.
Peter let his eyes slip shut too as he leaned his forehead against hers. “I wish we could stay,” he whispered, and Gamora swallowed thickly.
They were silent for a while after that, just curled into each other, holding each other close.
“Thank you,” Gamora finally said, her voice barely even a murmur as her breath grazed his cheek. She didn’t know why she was being so quiet- it wasn’t like anyone was going to overhear them. It just felt right. Being soft and quiet with him in this moment.
“For what?”
“For… for giving me this. These past few days. They have been… everything,” she told him, throat tight with emotion.
The arm that he already had encircling her held her tighter, pulling her in even closer, like they could never be close enough. Peter buried his face in the crook of her neck and nuzzled into her. “You’re my everything,” he whispered into her skin.
It should have sounded cheesy, but it didn’t. His voice was as choked up as hers was, and it sounded right. The fact that it meant as much to him as it did to her made her heart feel like it was going to burst. In a good way. The best way. ________________
And maybe they’d have to go back to their lives of constant danger and explosions and the responsibility of keeping the galaxy safe. But they’d always have these five days, cruising around Missouri and feeling utterly complete.
They’d always have these five days of their own little world. And they’d always have each other, no matter what world they were in.
That was enough to make everything else inconsequential. They had each other. That’s all that mattered. Still.
They’d always have these memories too.

~FIN~ ________________
Author’s note: Fic title is from the song Oceans by Misterwives, which I highly recommend, and thematically fits this fic so freaking well, even though I already had this written before I remembered I’d always wanted to use that line for the title of a starmora fanfic
PS. some of my nerdiness worked it's way into this fic, so you can know that the information Gamora spouts off about humans and cheetahs being the best runners on earth is actually scientifically accurate. My headcannon for this fic where she can't remember what she's referencing is that they watched a documentary (maybe while curled up together on a motel bed?) and that's where she learned that fact.

Hey Stranger
Starmora AU - Prompt: "Hello stranger, you don't seem very good at hotwiring a car. It's the blue wire you should use. Or would you like the keys instead?"
Gamora cursed internally, cracking the door open a bit, unable to take the heat of the car any longer. She had wanted to keep the door closed- less suspicious that way, but she was already sweating like crazy and felt like she was dying. She didn't want to wait for the symptoms of heat exhaustion to set in. And if she could just get these damn wires right, she'd be able to turn on the AC and get out of here.
"You don't seem to be very good at hot wiring a car," a voice said from behind her, and Gamora's head slammed into the underside of the dashboard, cursing as she was caught literally red handed- there were so many colored wires, she'd pretty much been trying to find the right combination by process of elimination. With absolutely zero success.
"It's the blue wire you should use," he continued. "Or would you like the keys instead?"
Double shit. The car owner. No chance of convincing a gullible person she had lost her keys and had no way of contacting someone. Though a good samaritan probably would've called the cops when they saw what she was doing, not approach her and start talking to her.
She slowly brought her head out from under his dash to glare at him, kicking the car door open a little wider so she could bolt if necessary.
The man looked totally at ease, coffee in one hand, and far too amused by the situation. He should have been angry, confused, or scared. Maybe a mix of all three.
Not smiling like this was some friendly conversation.
She still had sweat dripping down her face, but she didn't say a word. She was still analyzing the situation, weighing all her options.
He tilted his head to the side, a thoughtful hum that might have sounded concerned. "You've been working at this for a while, haven't you?"
He had parked a block away from the shop, one of the side streets that didn't get much traffic, and was much easier to find a place and pull out of than the busy main street. Besides, walking to his car was gonna be his exercise for the week.
He had been amused and maybe a little thrilled to see his car door propped open, someone's foot still on the ground and digging around inside. Cause seriously, of all people, him? His car?
Once he got closer, he could see it was a woman, who very clearly had no idea what she was doing. She kept pulling and trying to connect different exposed wires at random, and after two minutes of standing by his bumper and watching more or less over her shoulder, he decided to interrupt. She was clearly working on movie knowledge; not an experienced car thief in the slightest.
But now that she was looking at him, he wondered how long she had been working in his car with all the doors closed. She was wearing all black too, and Peter had gotten an iced coffee today for a reason- it was hot as hell.
"Yours was the only one unlocked on this block. First one I found, anyway," she explained with a tense shrug.
Which yeah, makes sense. Peter didn't really lock his car much. Didn't have anything to steal in it anyway.
"Got somewhere you need to be?" He asked casually.
"Anywhere but here," Gamora said with a bitter laugh. Of course when she finally had an opportunity to escape, the one illegal skill Thanos hadn't taught her was the one she needed. Their rides were always provided for them when they were sent to do his dirty work. She had never needed to steal a car before.
And now she was in this city with no contacts, no safe houses to lie low in, and her best bet was getting as far away from here as possible.
The man starts reaching for his pocket, and before Gamora can react to him possibly reaching for a weapon, he pulls something out and tosses it to her.
She catches the keys in her hands. Gamora blinks down at them, absolutely dumbfounded.
"Are you serious?"
He shrugged. "You aren't exactly a criminal mastermind," and oh, how wrong he was there. Not for this type of crime. "I mean, you really suck at stealing cars. If you're desperate enough to try and hotwire a car for the first time for god knows how long in the middle of summer, figure it's probably for a very good reason. Besides, it's not mine anyway."
Gamora hissed. "It's stolen?!"
"Eh," he waved his hand in a so-so gesture. "No one's looking for it, if that's what you're asking. The vin number doesn't match though, but state's only do their own registries for that stuff, so as long as you don't get pulled over in Nevada, you'll be fine."
She looked doubtful, her jaw clenched, obviously conflicted as she cast her eyes between him and the keys, and back to him. Definitely didn't have many people to trust.
"Really," Peter promised, his voice soft but sincere. "I know what it's like to steal a car because you're desperate. Trust me, you're it," he said, a wry smile at his lips that seemed more self deprecating than anything. "Whatever you're running from- you can have the car and go as far as you need to go. You probably picked the best car to steal, honestly. It won't get traced back to you, and won't even get traced back to me. The papers in the glove box check out, you won't run into any problems. Except if you get your oil changed in Nevada. Literally any other state runs the vin number and you're good. Anywhere else, you're golden."
Gamora closed her hand around the keys. "Thank you," she said quietly.
The man nodded and stepped back as she turned them in the ignition. If she was alone, she might have cried in utter relief at the sound of the engine starting.
She quickly closed the door and pulled out of park. She adjusted the rear view mirror, seeing the guy who just gave her the keys to his car wave goodbye.
She held up her hand in a weak thanks, and drove away.
She didn’t even know his name. ____
Gamora made it two blocks. Before circling back around to find him again.
He hadn't made it very far, just walking on the sidewalk with his iced coffee like that was his plan all along, like he didn’t just help someone steal his admittedly shady car.
Maybe if he had been a normal person, she would’ve left. Just taken the car and never looked back, rather than risk someone who was just trying to help her getting caught up in all of this.
But he obviously had criminal ties of his own (as did she). And Gamora was so tired of running.
She didn’t have anyone to trust in this city, but whoever he was- he had less than legal connections, and that was safer than trying to outrun a shadow.
Peter was surprised when he looked up and realized he recognized the car that had slowed down next to him, and recognized the person driving it.
She rolled down the window. “I’m on the run from the mob!” She called out. “You wanna get involved in that?”
It took Peter a second to realize it was an invitation, then, he smiled. “Sure, why not?”
He climbed into the passenger seat of his car without a second thought. ____
"I hope you have some place to go, cause I sure as hell don't," Gamora's nervous chuckle was only slightly forced, the impulsiveness of her actions starting to catch up to her. This wasn't part of the plan. She didn't have a plan.
The only plan she had was run.
This was so far out of bounds of anything she'd ever done. And she didn't regret it at all.
"Yeah," he said, and proceeded to rattle off an address.
She paused, "uh… you know I'm not from around here, right?" Maybe she should've let him drive his car she just stole.
"You'll be driving along this road for the next ten minutes or so, then take a left on Magnolia. Only a few streets on from there. I’ll tell you when to turn.”
Gamora breathed out a sigh of- relief? Something, at finally having a plan, a place to go, even something as simple as literal directions to a destination. It was more than she’d had since she broke away from Thanos. More than she’d had in a long time, really.
Peter looked over at her, not really sure if this was the right time, but he’d never had much impulse control. “So, you mind me asking how you got mixed up with the mob?” His elbow rested near the passenger window, fingers idly tapping the car interior, going for casual instead of curious like he really was.
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened. “I used to work for them.”
Now that got his attention. When he heard her problems were mob related, he expected something more along the lines of a troubled family member, maybe some bad business with a loan shark- you know, normal people reasons for getting involved with the mob. If he had to take a guess, he’d go with medical debt that a loan shark was intent on collecting upon. That was getting more common these days. People borrowing from less than reputable sources to pay hospital bills, and the interest rates on mob money- you couldn’t get out of that. And if you went to the cops, you’d find your house burned down that you put up for collateral six months later, all chalked up to an electrical fire. Pretty good reason for wanting to get away.
But working for them- now that… that he was not expecting.
He hadn’t pegged her for a criminal- she was so bad at stealing cars.
“What’d you do for them?” He asked before he could stop himself.
She tensed all over, her jaw tightening, and kept staring straight out the windshield in silence. Definitely the wrong thing to ask.
Peter cringed, slumping back in his seat, ready to shut up for the rest of the ride. Just when she seemed like she was starting to trust him.
Gamora breathed out slowly. He should- he should know. He might decide not to help her, but he deserves to know the truth. He would be getting ‘mixed up’ with the mob too cause of this, just because he was… kind. Whatever car thief/chop shop operation he at least had some ties to didn’t mean he deserved to die if Thanos ever found her.
“The worst of it?” She said with a forced levity. “We had guns for that. And we used them.”
She had no desire to be more blunt than that. She was sure he got what that meant.
He didn’t react. At all. She kept waiting and waiting for something- anything, but nope. Nothing.
“That a problem?” Gamora tried to keep her tone as bland as possible. Hearing someone heavily imply they used to kill people for the mob- it didn’t exactly inspire confidence if they sounded like they were one wrong move away from snapping.
Peter hesitated. Then, “Not so long as I made a good first impression.”
Gamora laughed, surprising even herself. She took a quick glance over to see him still looking at her, seeming genuinely delighted at making her laugh. She quickly refocused back on the road.
“Very good,” she assured him. She was more hesitant to say this next part, because sharing made you vulnerable, and any vulnerabilities could be exploited, but- she really didn’t want him to think badly of her, that she killed people by choice.
Still, she chose her words carefully. “My time with them was less than voluntary.”
“Kinda figured,” he said with a lopsided smile that was actually kind of charming. “I’m Peter, by the way.”
“Gamora.”
She still didn’t know what she was going to do next, but she knew she wasn’t going to have to figure it out alone.
He was right. She really did pick the best car to steal today.

In The Summertime (When The Weather Is Hot)
(read it on ao3)
Starmora Week 2018: Day 1, Summer Trip
Title from the song, “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry
I know this is like two hours early, but I WAS JUST SO EXCITED TO POST IT!!! Anyways, I hope y’all enjoy it!! :)
Summary: It's exhausting when you're the 'parents' of overgrown children. That's why Peter and Gamora decide to take a little R&R.
The beach. Sounds of palm tree leaves brushing together from the light breeze and the soft roar of waves fill the air. It's peaceful and they're the only ones there...well, as in Gamora and Peter. The others left to restock the ship. Having enough of the ruckus caused by Drax and Rocket, Peter suggested that he and Gamora needed some time away. So, here they were: the 'parents' of their dysfunctional family, walking hand-in-hand through the white, fine-grained sand. They walk to shore and set their belongings down. Gamora strips off a loose, white romper, revealing a black, off the shoulder, ruffled bikini. By the time she neatly folds up her romper and places it on top of her towel, Peter has already torn off his shirt and beaten her to the water.
A soft smile creeps upon Gamora's lips as she watches Peter pop out of the water with her arms across her chest.
As Peter turns around, his eyes widen. Gamora was absolutely gorgeous in her suit and intricately braided hair. "Woah."
The emerald color of the woman's complexion darkens as she shifts her gaze somewhere else. She bites her bottom lip in an attempt to prevent her small smile from growing.
"You gonna come in or-?" Peter asks after a few minutes in silence, the only sound emerging from the waves.
Gamora quickly scans her surroundings, taking in the peacefulness of everything. There's no litter. No people. It's only the two of them. Unlike most beaches, this one isn't polluted. It's very preserved and seems like the inhabitants of the planet are very dedicated to protecting their environment. It's peaceful.
The ex-assassin takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, breathing in the scent of the ocean water. "Go on without me!" She finally calls back, opening her eyes. "I'm gonna stay here!" With that, she grabs her towel from underneath her romper and lays it out on the sand. She hears Peter swimming back to shore.
"Well, if you're gonna stay here, might as well turn on some tunes." He suggests, walking towards his go-to grey, short-sleeved shirt and pulling out his Zune from underneath, along with one of the portable speakers Rocket had built. As Gamora turns his back to him once again, Peter searches for a song he'd discovered not to long ago. An allegro instrumental fades in from the speaker.
For some odd reason, Gamora isn't sitting down on the towel she'd laid out for herself. Instead, she's gazing off into the ocean with what appeared to be curiosity in her eyes. Maybe, she never swam for fun while under Thanos' control. Maybe, she doesn't know what it's like to swim without fearing for your life. That's when Peter hatches an idea.
Without a word, Peter creeps up behind Gamora, who's still lost in thought, and scoops her up into his arms. "PETER!" Gamora tries to fight off the urge to giggle as Peter continues to run to the end of the shallow-end of the ocean before propelling them into the deep-end.
Peter lets her go, allowing her to swim back to the surface. He follows suit, earning a glare from the woman. "What?" The ex-Ravanger is prepared for a smack upside the head, or another lecture. What he isn't prepared for is a large splash of water to be hurled at his face. He blinks in surprise, noticing Gamora's slight chuckle. "Oh, it's on."
' And every day that you want to waste, that you want to waste, you can
And every day that you want to wake up, and you want to wake, you can
And every day that you want to change, that you want to change, yeah
I'll help you see it through 'cause I just really want to be with you'
After a few hours of splashing wars, Peter and Gamora finally decide to head back to shore. As they dry off, they watch the sunset together. They talk for what could've been hours. The next thing they know, the sun has finally set and the stars are lighting up the night sky.
In the moment, all Peter can think about is how the girl he's fallen in love with is seated right next to him, sharing his body heat, with a smile that is too big to hide. It isn't until he feels an added weight on his shoulder that he notices Gamora had finished putting her romper back on. He wraps an arm around her as she nuzzles further into him. After planting a lingering kiss to the top of her head, Peter begins to rub his hand up and down her arm.
"Peter?" Her voice is so quiet, he barely hears her.
"Yeah?" The man turns his head towards hers, noticing the way her body is slightly shivering as he shrugs off his jacket and drapes it loosely over her shoulders.
"Thank you for showing me this." With that, she feels her eyes getting heavy and allows herself to drift off in Peter's loving arms.
