Hi! I was wondering who do Saturnian nakshatras usually feel attracted to/end up with? Is there some sort of theory for this? 🤔 thanks ❤
Lol no theory but yes, based on obsevations, multiple examples in real life and art and nakshatra yoni pairings(and their positions on the wheel) saturn people are the best match for sun people.
Each saturn nakshatra is opposite a sun nakshatra and two of them are yoni consorts of sun nakshatras, with Uttara Bhadrapada and Uttara Phalguni being both opposite each other and yoni consorts (cow yonis). Krittika is the yoni match for Pushya (sheep/goat yonis), and Anuradha's yoni consort is Jyeshta(rabbit/deer yonis), while Uttara Ashadha (mongoose yoni) has no yoni consort.
All of the saturn and sun nakshatras, except Anuradha are warrior caste, so Anuradha is a bit different in nature, but tbh that does not make much of a difference.
The usual dynamic between them is often very fun to watch cause both of those planets are tough, stubborn and independent but in completely different ways. I have a post on Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Bhadrapada and how it usually plays out, with examples. Some of it is specific to cow yonis but mostly you can apply them to all and any saturn-sun nakshatra pair. With Anuradha, it's interesting that its yoni match Jyeshta is considered very solar and masculine in nature despite being a Mercury-ruled nakshatra, so it is different in Anuradha's case, but not really.
Sun is the natural self-expression of a person and represents the soul, the rational, the cerebral, the individual and the stable, masculine part. Saturn is the rules and the limitations that have to be accepted and followed perfectly that are necessary for life in the material(physical) world. The Sun is exalted in Ashwini, and debilitated in its opposite(and enemy) nakshatra Swati, where Saturn is exalted. Saturn is debilotated in another nakshatra opposite Swati_ Bharani, which comes right after Ashwini. Also, Suna nd Saturn are natural enemies. If you think of them that way, it might appear that all that tension will translate to enmity, and it does happen sometimes, but in the case of nakshatra rulerships, oftentimes Sun and Saturn people get along exeptionally well and have a unique dynamic that makes them a powerful team. One's strengths are the other's weaknesses, they balance each other out and they have a common ground where they both appreciate and respect each other and their boundaries(mostly after some time 😅). There will, almost certainly, always be tension between them but it usually grts channelled productively, and through love. If the Sun is indepedence, and Saturn is restriction and dependence, one cannot exist without the other. We define our individuality through restrictions and rules and we restrict and define(ourselves and others) based on who we are, so it's really a very iconic dynamic you asked about. 😄
Some tropes that their dynamic reminds me of:
Battle couple
Enemies to lovers
Partners in crime to lovers
Rivals to lovers
Thanks for asking! I love their dynamic. In hetero couples its kinda different(EDIT: I meant, it's different based on which planet type is which gender), but the overall vibe and the dynamic stays the same. They(sun and saturn individuals) really seem like opposite people until they actually interact and then they act like two almost identical bickering children while enjoying it 😭 they are very loyal, forgot to mention, probably the most loyal along with venus people, and very defensive. They might get offended if anyone tries to get involved in their "bickering"(flirting), it's just between them. I can confirm all of the above causse I'm a Sun girl(a venus girl, but with uttara phalguni ascendant) 😁
Anyways, glad you asked. If you have similar questions about other nakshatras it always helps to pay attention to little details about them, like, yoni animals, which planets are friends, neutral or enemies, nakshatra caste, planet exaltations and detriments, nakshatra nature, nakshatra placements at the zodiac wheel... and a lot of this comes from observing real life and art through the years, as well as from personal experience. I think you have to filer any information through your own lens and see for yourself, maybe you'll discover something new that others did not catch. I'm basically encouraging you to observe without pressure and have fun, and to fact check what others say for yourself. 🙂

SUBTEXT
so I've focused in on Perceval and Bors before, and I've done Perceval and Gender (for more on this specifically, see: Clothes Make The Man: Parzival Dressed and Undressed, Michael D. Amey) and did a whole comic that leaned into some subtext™ on temptation, but actually let's throw out the subtext! let's bring Augustine into this!!
Tumblr media
Perceval, de Troyes (trans. Burton Raffel)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
introduction to Confessions, Augustine (trans. Sarah Ruden)
so for perceval a knight is both the gender he wants to perform but also something that is expressly compared to god, and if god is a lover that seduces. well. does this not also apply to knights as well?
Tumblr media
Homosexuality in the Renaissance: Behavior, Identity, and Artistic Expression, James M. Saslow
and while galahad might be the obvious choice, I think perceval's relationship with bors during the grail quest narrative is more interesting. it's not god that transforms perceval, it's the sight of knights for the first time. something in here specifically is incredibly intriguing to me, but there's a different text I need to finish reading to fully form some thoughts on it.
Tumblr media
le Morte d’Arthur
and finally! tentatively. I think I might slowly start turning this idea I had a couple years back into a fully formed comic. we'll see! I had most of it blocked out, but halfway through reading augustine's confessions, I think was when perceval finally clicked for me as a character in a later narrative cycle setting. I think I might have to spend a lot of time doing some visual research first because my god I cannot consistently draw armor to save my life......back when I lived in new england, there was a museum with a wonderful medieval armor collection I could visit.....alas.........I will have to hit the books (literally, I have a collection of books on medieval armor but this is apparently the one thing I can't visualize properly in my imagination. save me, museum collections, you're my only hope)
⭐️ credits for the collage panels! (all open access or public domain, etc.)
-Saint George and the Dragon -Saint George and the Dragon (different one lmao) -Pages and Knights, Frontispiece for "The Man at Arms" -Cloisters
⭐ if you like my comics and have a couple bucks, I have a tip jar (ko-fi)!
⭐ and other places I'm at! bsky / pixiv / pillowfort /cohost / cara.app

Tumblr media
Name: Finch K. Lorelai
Pronouns: They/Them Heritage: Half-Elf Magical Specialty: Necromancy Year: 2nd Brief Description: Finch comes from a long lineage of necromancers, is widely considered one of the only child prodigies to come out of that field, and possesses the ability to speak to the dead. They're ambitious and your self-proclaimed academic rival. They don't like sharing the top spot and is antagonistic towards you, even more so if they learn your true identity. The lines between disdain and affection are very fine, however, and there's the possibility to sweep their feet out from under them when they least expect it.
Name: Desily Bramblecove
Pronouns: She (default)/They (selectable) Heritage: Faefolk (Pixie) Magical Specialty: Shapeshifting Year: 3rd Brief Description: Desily is a difficult spirit to pin down, often doing what she wants when she wants to. She loves playing hard to get and causing general uproar, then slipping away to let others deal with the aftermath. She's fickle, even for a fae, but obsessive. If you're not careful, you may fall into her grasp without even realizing it. If you so choose to spend time with her, be prepared to partake in any schemes she may cook up.
Name: Merrick Midae
Pronouns: They (default)/He/She (selectable) Heritage: Merfolk (Anglerfish) Magical Specialty: Light Manipulation Year: 1st Brief Description: A shy, not-very-little merperson who came to land to study all manners of magic. A jack of all trades, Merrick is a little good at most magic, but they wanted to learn more about what was beyond the sea. They're not the bravest, but they'd do anything for a close friend. Perhaps they'll take a liking to you.
Name: Caidrith, Ruler of Rime
Pronouns: He (default)/She/They (selectable) Heritage: Draconic Royalty Magical Specialty: Ice and Temperature manipulation Year: 4th Brief Description: Caidrith, or simply Caid, as you know him, is the only person at Dawnholde who knows of your past. Caid is the second-born to the rulers over northern dragonkin. Though his chances of accquiring the throne are low, it's better to be safe than sorry. He enrolled in the school to learn self defense, then stuck around for the people. You've known him since childhood, as your parents often had strategy meetings together. He can be stoic, but you know Caid cares for you, though maybe not in a way you know of.
Name: Rycharde, Knight of the Tainted Lands
Pronouns: He/Him Heritage: Catfolk Magical Specialty: Protection and Healing Year: 3rd Brief Description: Rycharde hails from a plague-ridden kingdom on it's last legs. Catfolk are usually able to use magic due to distant Fae ancestery, but Rycharde has no innate magic. Instead, he draws on the patron deity of his city for his power, making him a magician instead of a mage. He's proud of his failing homeland and devoted to his city, but that's not the only thing he could turn his attention to. After all, temptation is one hell of a motivator.
Name: Cere Quicrow
Pronouns: She/Her Heritage: Manifested Air Elemental (Birdfolk appearance) Magical Specialty: Divination Year: 1st Brief Description: Cere takes the form of a birdfolk, but is a manifested elemental in reality. She takes great pride in her appearance and is quite vain, but hates being the center of attention and keeps to herself. She's flighty and a perfectionist, leaving herself conflicted on what she really wants, be it freedom and impulsive decisions or to finish her "secret project." Maybe she'll let you in on it if you're nice to her?

[RO appearances here] (not a rickroll this time I swear)
Tumblr media
Martin: He comes from a long lineage of strong mages. Always the family's black sheep, he seeks to make his family proud and finally show them he's worthy of his last name. A gentle but intimidating giant, he doesn't want to get too close to his fellow contestants, can you break down his walls?
Tropes: Stoic, Slow-Burn, Forced Proximity, Roommates, Afraid to Commit, Idiots in Love
Tumblr media
Demetra: This one is a mystery. Your brother's best friend, whom you've seen walking around your home since you were a teenager; however, she never made an effort to get to know you. When you see her at the Academy, you realise you know nothing about who she is. She says her only motivation to be on the show is knowledge, but will you show her she can find something other than that?
Tropes: Rivals to Lovers, Brother's Best Friend, Idiots in Love, Everyone Can See It
Tumblr media
Evander: Evander is a gifted individual with a big talent for magic, but he's lazy. The definition of "He's smart but he doesn't apply himself", he could care less about being in the academy. Their family has managed to force convince them to be on the show, the fame and money a big incentive. What they secretly hope is that he'll come home as a new person and grow up. You won't fix them, but you can sure seduce them. ;)
Tropes: First Love, Fish Out of Water, Oblivious to Love, Pining
Tumblr media
Harley: A social butterfly, it seems somehow she's already friends with everyone at the Academy. Growing up around musicians made her love for music grow, as well as awaken her powers. She joined the show to make important connections and to get her name out there both as a talented musician and a powerful mage. Will you be just another friend for her or will you become her muse? 𝄞
Tropes: Friends to Lovers, Soft Love, Roommates, Idiots In love, Mutual Pining
Tumblr media
Echo: Echo is extremely shy and often lost in her own thoughts. Her unique powers make her an intimidating rival and a strong teammate. However, she joined the show for a specific reason: she seeks to learn more about her unusual affinities. Other than that she hasn't really been interested in getting to know anyone. Maybe you'll be the exception and get to know the real Echo. ❤︎
Tropes: Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, Idiots In Love, Strangers to Lovers, Hesitant, Crush on MC
Tumblr media
Dominic: He is one of the judges at Magici: Worldstar, as well as a professor at the Academy. He is just another judge, and you're just another contestant. Nothing to see here. :)
Tropes: Forbidden Love, Fell In Love with The Wrong Person, Lovers in Denial
Tumblr media
possible flings 👀 Other contestants:
Bleon: They already have a reputation as a prankster around the Academy, having competed in Magici: Worldstar's first season. Loved by the student body, hated by the professors, but you'll be sure to like this menace.
Bruno: A shy but friendly presence in your team, he looks forward to getting to know you. After a quick conversation, you already know he aspires to become a respected landscape engineer by perfecting his ability to build and shape landscapes.
Brynn: She aspires to become a Nature Guardian, and to preserve harmony between humans and nature. It is slightly interesting then, that she seems to dislike you the moment she sets her eyes on you.
Chianti: He holds a little secret. Well, not anymore, 'cause I'm about to tell you. He's just had his Awakening, a mere few months before his admission to the show. Will you help him develop his affinities or turn the other way, until he gets eliminated?
Nora: After losing her father to a magic-related incident, she understands that even the strongest healers can't save themselves. She dreams of becoming a mage healer, but also a Guardian, thanks to her rare affinity combination.
Rahim: A disciplined and focused mage, no one in his family has had an Awakening. He hopes he'll be able to get far in the show or to at least stay long enough to develop his powers.

Random ask, who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in any media, like anime/manga, tv series, books, etc (can be canon or non-canon)? Feel free if you want to write the reasons or not of why you love them....
Thank you so much for sending in an ask! I would love to answer this question! I didn't go through every fandom I've been in, though I went through quite a few!!! Usually, there is only one ship I really love in a fandom that ends up being my favorite, but I like/love plenty of ships and don't limit myself to just one ship. I will say that when it comes to engaging with fandom and fanfiction, I tend to actually prefer platonic relationships, centered on found family and blood-related family than anything else.
Bungou Stray Dogs -> Shin Soukoku (Akutagawa Ryuunosuke/Nakajima Atsushi). I think most of this comes from the way they are quite literally yin and yang (my favorite symbol of all time) in almost every aspect. I firmly believe Asagiri is beating us over the head with a mallet saying "Look! Look what I did! Please look!" I'm under no impression that they will be canon, but BEAST gives me the hope that they can at least become friends, and that's testament enough to the development they go through. There is just so much there. I'm not an enemies to lovers person, but for them, I make the exception. There are so many parallels to draw between them, so much to look at and really dig into. I'm not delusional enough to say they wouldn't be toxic (all of the BSD ships except for, like, RanPoe, are toxic let's be real), but I am lenient enough to say that they can be good to each other in fanfics and decent friends in canon. Also, this applies to their BEAST counterparts, too. BEAST makes them better.
Jujutsu Kaisen -> ItaFushi (Fushiguro Megumi/Itadori Yuuji). There is a sort of trend I have with shipping, I think. I tend to like the second most popular ship, usually the younger generation of the most popular ship, which is arguably a form of torture in and of itself. JJK is not as bad as the BSD fandom is about the popularity difference, but it's still painful. Anyway, I think my love for this ship stems from the fact that Megumi has a big fat crush on Itadori and I will accept, under no circumstances, any other interpretations of his relationship with Itadori. Everything from the SatoSugu parallels (who are one handhold away from being canon let's be real), to their whole shtick being to save each other (physically and mentally), to Megumi literally describing Itadori as his type of person. Gender neutral. Even though it is so incredibly easy to use gendered terms in Japanese as it is in English. I feel like Gege is doing this on purpose because there is just no way he sees this as normal friend stuff. Recent chapters got me in a chokehold. I am SCARED. Besides all this, I think they just work very well together. They are also horribly tragic. Perfect combination.
Genshin Impact -> Xiaother (Aether/Xiao). I debated pretty heavily with myself here on what my true favorite is. I came to this conclusion mainly for one reason: Xiao. I love Aether, but I love Xiao. He is my favorite character, right next to Razor, so obviously he carries this ship. I also think that, of all of the implied relationships Genshin has supplied in plenty, Xiaother has had the most development. Every scene with them is better than the last, and the way that they make each other better is something I adore. And as for the ship being specifically Aether and not Lumine or nonspecific, it's because I chose Aether, so I'm more accustomed to using him as the traveler vessel rather than Lumine, but I'm honestly fine with either.
Identity V -> Elisop (Aesop Carl | Embalmer/Eli Clark | Seer). I haven't played this game in a hot minute for storage and laptop reasons, and I'm also not updated with the lore (nor was I entirely familiar with it from the beginning, outside of the MAIN main lore). But this ship and game were a huge part of my personal development, I think, and I do want to return to playing it in an honest effort eventually (I WANT MY ROBBIE RANK BACK). I think I perceive it differently than other people do, mainly because people oscillate between two sides of the Aesop Carl characterization spectrum. But there is something really fun in the idea that Eli, with his ability to see the future, thinks that he can somehow "fix" Aesop, under the impression that his and Getrude's relationship will never mend. And Aesop, who sees Eli and feels real love for the first time, finds that he doesn't know if he wants to kill and embalm Eli, or if he wants to indulge in this feeling called love. Toxic, probably. Their color schemes also match very well together (which is actually what led me to ship them in the first place, before fandom influence), and they are extremely compatible gameplay-wise.
Haikyuu -> IwaOi (Iwaizumi Hajime/Oikawa Tooru). If you told me two or so years ago that this was my favorite Haikyuu ship, I would have LAUGHED IN YOUR FACE. I hated Oikawa and didn't care much about Seijou. But then. But then. I went through a like. Month-long Haikyuu revival not too long ago and only read IwaOi fics because I came to this revelation. Oikawa is really goddamn relatable. I think we are all, in a sense, Oikawa, at one point or another. He is THE teenager. He is someone you can project every single one of your problems onto because his struggles with being untalented and unworthy are interchangeable with pretty much any self-worth conflict: internalized homophobia, eating disorders, socializing, etc. Iwaizumi can also provide these internal debates, but in a context with Oikawa makes it even better. Does Oikawa carry this ship for me? Yes. I don't care what you think I'm not here to defend myself.
Voltron: Legendary Defenders -> Klance (Keith Kogane/Lance McClain). Do NOT talk to me. They have ruined my life in pretty much every aspect. Also an exception to the not shipping thing because they are kinda the whole reason I even watched this show past season... three probably. I don't even wanna talk about them anymore because it'll just upset me. Just know that as far as the Sheith vs Klance debate goes, Sheithers are wrong for that after Keith called Shiro his brother. There. I added my fuel to the ever-burning garbage fire that is Voltron shipping. I may talk about Klance again in the future but for now I wanna leave my thoughts off here.
Merlin BBC -> Merthur (Arthur Pendragon/Merlin). Thank you Merthur fandom for teaching me what a good fic is supposed to taste like. They are kind of the epitome of the ships I tend to gravitate to: TRAGIC. The ending of Merlin is traumatizing and the fact that all of the cast pretty shipped it (as well as you can see the faint mouthing of the words "I love you" in the final death scene) is like. The first true healthy immersion into a ship I've ever had. I never obsessed over them too hard, I think, but Merlin is still my favorite live-action show, and Merthur is always well and true to my heart. They also got me introduced to the master/servant trope in terms of medieval times, and I had a very long affinity for it in fanfiction. I don't like it as much anymore, but I look upon that time with happiness rather than the usual slight embarrassment.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power -> Catradora (Adora/Catra). I also make an exception for enemies to lovers for them because they even added that extra-friendly step of friends to enemies to lovers. Genuinely, no show surprised me as much as She-Ra did. Shout out She-Ra for giving me the worst envy I've ever felt in my life. I want to rock a suit as well as Catra did in that one scene. Anyway, I loved their development. I know some people criticize it for being rushed towards the end, but I like the way they were able to forgive Catra so easily. They understood what it meant to be used and manipulated, what it meant to be unable to fight against oppressive forces. People are mad at compassion, even though that's the literal whole point of She-Ra. Whatever. They could never make me hate you Catradora.
Percy Jackson (all book series) -> Percabeth (Annabeth Chase/Percy Jackson). The blueprint. That's it. That's all you gotta know. I don't read fics about them because there is nothing to improve upon. One of the best written series and best written romances of all time. It was basically everything Avatar: The Last Airbender failed to do with Kataang (sorry for ragging on them for a second but that's the only thing I didn't like about ATLA; the romances) failed to accomplish, with all the same in-depth and wonderful characters. Like, they are everything I aspire to have in a relationship. The way they are simply meant for each other and aren't rushed, but are always implied to have that cutesy young crushes until they finally got together. I love them. Ugh. Uncle Rick you win again.
Anyway, these were some of my favorite ships of all time!! Sorry, I blabbered a lot. Probably listed more ships than you meant to but I take whatever opportunity I can to talk about things I enjoy IN DEPTH. There were also a lot of M/M romances, which, I swear to God, just happened out that way. I love plenty of F/F and F/M relationships, they just rarely end up as my top favorite. DO NOT accuse me of anything because I WILL NOT hear it.

The Initial Spark
Posting 23rd October 2023
Fic by Tossukka
Art by Nickelkeep
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Castiel has never felt sexual attraction or understood why everyone else seems to go wild over people they meet for the first time. When his mother pressures him towards finding a mate and settling down, Castiel’s friend Dean offers to arrange some dates for him. Since Castiel likes the thought of finding love, at least in theory, he agrees.
With Dean’s help, Castiel keeps going on first dates, trying to find the magic spark he thinks he's missing. Only what he finds may not be exactly what he was looking for.

Excerpt: Below the readmore
“What are these?” Castiel leaned closer to try and take a sheet of paper from the table, but Dean slapped his hand away.
“No touchy!” he said. “This, my man, is the result of the research I’ve done for the last couple of days among my friends and friends of friends about the single people on the right age range that are attracted to alphas.”
Castiel squinted at him.
“You… have actually done research on this? Did you find all these people alone?”
“Well, Charlie helped a lot. She is weirdly invested in this. I have no idea what her agenda is, seeing she’s only attracted to omegas, but when I told her I’m doing this, she offered to help,” Dean said, frowning slightly. “Said I may figure out what’s right in front of me quicker like this, whatever that means. Anyway.”
Taking the file from the table and opening it, Dean showed him the first page.
“This is what Charlie helped with the most. She found some of the people too, but she figured out to categorize the files neatly with some program she just whipped out of her ass,” Dean said, rolling his eyes. “Here’s what you asked. Attractive, smart, funny. So here’s what we have for you.”
Dean turned to the next page and there was a page full of information about the person with a full face picture next to the wall of text. Taking the file from Dean, Castiel read the categories through.
Name, age, picture, gender, designation, sexuality, scent, occupation, hobbies, contact details. The form looked kind of like a dating profile to Cas, only it was all meant for his private use.
“Dean, this is a lot to do for me,” Castiel said. “Are all these people even interested in someone like me?”
“Oh, I got a lot more offers from willing participants than I could accept,” Dean laughed.

What The Plague Flight Means to Me.
I know the plague flight is very much stereotyped as having a brutal survivalist culture, but that is not how I choose to interpret it, and to see it reduced down to that is always very disheartening to me. My plague dragons care about the survival of their families and loved ones as much as they care about their own survival. They survive through solidarity and by helping their own. Why else would Mirrors be pack animals? And why else would Aberrations have two separate brains working for the survival of one body? Because unity and togetherness is what makes us more powerful than any lone survivor. Forewarning: This part gets intimately personal!! Survival also applies to more than just life, death, and physical ability. People can survive any number of tribulations, whether those tribulations are physical, social, or psychological. Living with chronic illnesses, living with mental illnesses, living through a global pandemic, worrying about the safety of friends and family, being faced with homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, misogyny, verbal, emotional, and physical abuse; all of these are survival! I have spent most of my life surrounded by family members who have dismissed my mental illness, dismissed my gender identity, condemned me for who I love, actively fight against my rights, and even went as far as threatening me with homelessness because of how I styled my hair, screamed at, berated... For something as trivial as that... I was alienated by my own family. And to realize my own family will never offer the acceptance I need so desperately in a world that is so cruel to the mentally ill and the LGBTQIA+ was the most painful heart break of my life. So when I joined Flight Rising during the lockdown of 2020, no flight offered me the same sense of solidarity as the flight of survivors. I am a survivor. Survival is holding out on the hopes of a better day. I am a fucking badass for being exactly who I am today and overcoming the tribulations I have faced. I survived to see a better day. I am still surviving, and I am still hoping for better days. Every day I wake up and I realize it's good to be alive. Even with every difficulty I face, I know I will come out stronger. I have a new family now, one who uplifts me rather than tearing me down. I have the privilege of being a part of this beautiful, diverse, kind, generous community of dragon lovers that is Flight Rising. And plague is a flight full of wonderful, tough exterior, tender-hearted badasses.

i love sparklecare ( i really do ) but i don't understand the cometcare au at all and i don't get its hype. the designs look SO rushed ( like it was put together in a 10 minute art challenge ) and is it just me or. is the art style progressively getting worse ( for both sparklecare and cometcare ). i hate how random cometcare is too, i tried reading it and my brain got so fried. i had no idea what was happening. i loved cometcare at first, it was cool when it was JUST pollarrydoomi then they threw in these random ass characters and went "oh yeah. ur dating and have a child." ???? especially with hemera, the only (?) aroace character, why is she with caroline and why does she have a kid. adding hemera and miley into the mix was SUCH a bad idea. also. caroline x doom???? carruni s/x canon ( even though uni is aegosexual/asexual ... ) cometcare had so much potential and it all went down the drain by adding 10 thousand nearsiblings
FORGIVE ME FOR HOW LONG THIS RESPONSE IS
ive been saying exactly this ever since i found out about the cometcare au. literally everybody has a million children with everyone else and im like. why.
this may be a controversial opinion but i am not a fan of carroom (caroline x doom) in the slightest, since caroline is literally shown to hate doom in the main comic. literally all of their interactions involve caroline insulting doom, not to mention the earlier half of volume three.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i know enemies to lovers is a thing but if somebody chucked a full bucket of puke on my head, and then gave my sister this Judgemental Ass Look for offering to clean it up, i would honestly Kill Them. regardless of if they secretly had a crush on me or i secretly had a crush on them or whatever. you cannot convince me these two dont fucking hate eachother.
also i mean this in the most respectful way possible but i feel like theyre sorta erasing carolines sexuality with this? i may be attracted exclusively to men, but allow me to speak for a bit.
i am not at all trying to invalidate dooms agender identity, but. speaking as someone whos agender myself. i look exactly like a cis man. i am assigned male at birth, my testosterone is absolutely thriving since im going through puberty, i look like a man and i have zero intent to ever change that. if someone was NOT attracted to men, they would NOT be attracted to me, regardless of me actually being agender. especially not if i Tortured And Murdered Their Friends.
this isnt invalidating dooms gender identity nor is it invalidating mine, im definitely into something here. as someone whos gay (nblm) i wouldnt instantly develop a crush on lizzo if she came out as agender, especially not after the fucked up shit she did. now apply this to carroom, and miloom (miley x doom). but mainly carroom.
i understand carruni since unis a closeted trans woman, but thats different from carroom in a lot of ways. it would make sense for uni to not alter her gender expression as long as shes in the closet, since she isnt ready to explain to anyone else what she really is to anybody else. caroline and uni have an extremely deep bond too, so ofcourse shed come out to caroline first, and ofcourse theyd develop crushes on eachother. in the future (going off of au's and such), when uni is out of the closet, she is shown to present as her authentic self, and she. does a really good job at it. shes fucking gorgeous in cometcare. so it makes sense for caroline to be attracted to her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and also uni isnt a serial killer. caroline seems to really dislike serial killers to the point where shed throw full buckets of vomit on them, which is. reasonable.
however again, unis aegosexual (if i recall correctly, uni and hemera are the only characters confirmed to be on the asexual spectrum as of volume four, not including characters that havent appeared yet) so it feels wrong to explicitly sexualize her regardless, especially if the clowns are "uncomfortable" with fans doing the same.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
while were on this topic, agreed. hemera (the only aroace character in the entire sparklecare universe so far, including au's last time i checked) has like four other partners in cometcare. i dont think thats a very good idea considering they made it a point to explicitly point out her being aromantic in volume two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yeah, the artstyle has been very clearly degrading, i have another post about that.
how the fuck do i end this

Black Squirrel 🐿️ on Imprisonment
Peace ☮️ on 7 Cups
Intelligent ♊️ on The Arts
Our first murderer of this string of readings! Sounds worse than it is. Apply that to your whole life. Did you kill someone, yes, and your entire past life identity was forged on that day, but you never knew it would become that or that this would be a weight you would carry for the rest of your life, right on into this one.
I get this being the US, and not that long ago, you were someone who came right back, same energy, same person essentially, except you’re not. Both lives are shown as The Merchant, you could have Libra prominently in your chart. I was getting the 1950s and the phrase “crimes of passion” kept repeating on a loop. Apparently that’s a movie, that I now have to see. I couldn’t find anything about a specific person, and now I’m not sure if I’m in the right time period at all or if it’s the movie itself they wanted me to find - to help describe your energy here. That’s what this was, you killed your wife’s lover, and it wasn’t planned, you weren’t a normally violent sort of person, there was zero thought put into this whatsoever. In fact, you were a pretty happy person, the sort with their head in the clouds, you didn’t pay close attention to things, you weren’t mistrustful, you thought everything was as it should be…and when you learned it wasn’t, there was a huge scene, a huge fight, and it’s being described as “tearing your family apart”. Or that was your children’s perception, you were the villain, and they became estranged from you after you went to prison.
Whoever this lover was, you knew them well, probably trusted them, they show up with 3 Pentacles. This could be a coworker, friend, neighbor, someone from church idk, you had a good relationship with them and probably wouldn’t think twice about this person being in your home. Could’ve been a handyman or someone that worked for you as well. You spent your life after this in prison, and died there, with thoughts of this person and what was done, justifying your actions to yourself, forever spinning in a loop in your mind. To you this was Justice, throw you in jail or not, come visit you or not, see you as the villain or not, you stood by your actions 💯 You were the victim here.
You have a very similar temperament in this life, it feels like you came right back. With Black Squirrel and imprisonment in both lives, once it was literally in prison, you had nothing to do BUT think of all of the intricate planning, deceptions, lies, everything you’d missed before you knew the truth, and those things festered in your mind obsessively. You still do that, all of the time, only over negative things. You collect them, store them in your brain, and obsess over every negative thing that’s ever said or done to you. There’s a level of paranoia and anxiety here, you keep yourself trapped in prison still, in your mind, even though you don’t live there anymore, and may not understand why “you’re like this”. Life feels…fake? Like something you’re forced to take part in, you’re not an active participant in anything that makes you feel good, it’s more of a forced engagement and constant negative judgements or perceptions about whatever you’re forced to do, who you’re forced to interact with. A doctor would probably diagnose you with something but it runs deeper than that. I am seeing one could help you if you want to feel more at ease, there are medicines that can help with that, if your pride can stand the diagnosis that comes with it. Is it karmic, yes, but they make pills for that too 🙃
The reason I bring that up at all is because your identity here is 7 Cups & Peace ☮️ meaning you’re unable to find peace, you don’t feel fulfilled by anything, and you don’t know what to do about it. It’s a feeling of being lost, you’re not, but you’re not happy, and you’re not sad, and you don’t know why you’re so negative all of the time. Or you don’t even realize that you’re this way, it’s always been this way. Medicine & mental health professionals can bring you peace, maybe not for your whole soul, but for the day to day which is what you need 🙏 I’m seeing looping thoughts over and over, fear and paranoia, jumping to conclusions, knee jerk reactions, heavy judgmental criticism, and you need to feel free of that, content, relaxed, working your way to actual fulfillment and happiness. Quit collecting all of the things you hate, in your mind, and start focusing on what you love, even if it’s a cup of tea and a tv show, your morning yoga routine, whatever. I’m hearing yoga could be good for you too.
In the past, your children left you behind, I’m not sure how old they were when this happened, some may not have known you well to begin with. Dad works, he’s gone until dinner, they’re like two, this life in prison was all they remembered or knew. I’m getting you had several children with Hamsa, five maybe, but the focus in this life seems to be the youngest of them - in the past, “the baby”. Or they could be a baby/young right now. They could have a significant Pisces placement, doesn’t have to be that, they’re just shown as the Fish & Page of Cups cards. The circumstances of this child are either a one night stand, leaving one person for another and a child gets wrapped up in that somehow, giving them up for adoption perhaps, because when this happens, you don’t want to get “stuck” or trapped to something. You just don’t want this, or aren’t prepared, maybe even a child yourself at the time. You may not know them at all, may not be involved, or it’s possible you don’t even know they exist. Whatever it is, in the past they “left you” and in this life you left them, but they’ve been your child twice.
The Arts are showing one of two things: Either there is an artist showing up as your lover, maybe a past lover, that’s never going to go anywhere, could be a Gemini. If not that, you could be very creative, possibly with writing, specifically when it comes to romance related things - but you don’t take any action to actually have that in your real life. Possibly a fanfic creator, extremely imaginative when those mental powers are used for positive & not trapped in the negative, you’re highly intelligent regardless. You’re meant to heal relationships with your family - The Star. There could be abandonment issues there, you avoid them, or feel they avoid you, if there’s a child in the mix they’re included. 10 Cups is what makes you feel overflowing with love, joy, happiness, and part of your negativity is a lack of this, which seems to stem from family. You feel as abandoned in this life as you did the last one, but in this one some of that may have been your own choice, avoidance, leaving before you’re left type of energy. Self-sabotage. Focus on love 🩷 But that also shows that it can be yours, peace, happiness, family, all of these things, you’re meant to let the heaviness go. The Merchant is balanced, fair, in the past life it was about Justice for you, and it still is, but a different kind. Your own Justice is seeing what’s not serving you, cutting it out/off and letting go, moving towards what you deserve and makes you happy - what you “should” do, the right thing - whatever that is for you.

Their Majesties' Pleasure
Warning for NSFW text as the game is rated explicit.
A few notes on player choices, as well as GRR elements if any:
I'll be honest, I didn't like it. It's one of those stories that gets to the porn before it gets to the plot. Even the opening sort of implies that you should turn off your brain to enjoy it.
But that's subjective, so I'll try to stick to the facts to let people know if it's for them or not. The indented sections are for the more subjective commentary.
No customisation for body type, hair, or appearance other than outfit selections in some chapters. You can choose the colour of your horse for one chapter.
No option to be explicitly transgender. Your MC's anatomy is assumed to be identical to that of a cisgender woman or man. This is a step back from previous Heart's Choice games such as If It Please the Court and Heart of Battle.
The nonbinary option amounts to giving you gender-neutral nouns and sex scene descriptions that can technically apply to any anatomy. You are effectively ambiguous, with no choice to be transmasculine or transfeminine. It's only inclusive of some nonbinary people.
A few sex scenes lump in the variants for female and nonbinary, which evokes the "all NBs are AFAB" stereotype.
All of the male ROs are already lovers with another RO. The only poly romances are those that are already established from the start, with no other combination.
It's nice to see polyamorous representation, but it could also have been implemented as an option for the player to initiate polyamory rather than joining an existing polycule for both pairs. To be fair, all of the ROs can be asked to commit to you exclusively.
If you choose to become a knight, you will be called Sir "regardless of gender".
I know there's a trend of adopting male-default language to include everyone else, like "dude" and "guys". But it assumes that everyone is comfortable with it, which is just not true. Some women and nonbinary people might not want to be called sir. Stating that the word is neutral in the story doesn't magically negate the gendered associations in the reader's mind. Plus, the Rumian military already has ranks such as Commander, so why not something like Captain?
In sex scenes with male ROs, choosing to play as a man gives you more choices (top or bottom). However, if you play as male and want to be penetrated by a female RO, that is not an option. If you play as female or nonbinary and don't want to be penetrated, an alternative choice is not always available.
You can be dominant with one female RO. You can be submissive to the male ROs. (On a somewhat related note, there are no non-combatant male ROs.)
You're thinking, maybe the half-star deity, half-dryad demigoddess might appeal to you, because if there are no warrior women ROs then at least there's a powerful lady that seems cool. You're about to have sex with her and she asks you...
Tumblr media
...to do what you wanted her to do... Uh, yeah, not a game for those who want GRR. It's... aggressively gender-conforming. I would not say that there's a lot of variation in terms of kink or anything outside of vanilla/spicy. Which is kind of hilarious to me since the rogue guy owns a luxury nighthouse. Somehow it never occurs to either of you that you could use toys, do a bit of role-playing, or tie each other up. Oh, and you meet fairies with an appetite for treasures, magical drinks, orgies, and other such delights. But no sex toys. Fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination!

Hi there, so, for Laluna's ask game, I want to know the answers to 5, 14, 15, 16, 24 if you care to answer!!
5 Where did Ralph really go that one time he went to make a phone call?
Answered here.
14 The Phaedrus: wtf?
This is a topic I've written a bit about in the past. I wrote a fic that expounds a bit on how I read The Phaedrus as a Ralph-substitute and Ralph-fantasy that Laurie eventually must let go in order accept himself and Ralph for who they are. I also created a post a while ago in which I constructed a The Charioteer / Maurice dialogue by juxtaposing quotes about The Phaedrus & Platonic Love from the two novels, as if they were speaking to each other. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the social/gender roles presented in The Phaedrus and how Laurie struggles to translate them into his relationship with Ralph.
The Phaedrus posits that love between men can and should be cultivated as a means to achieving spiritual transcendence. The premise of the argument is that physical erotic love corrupts the soul, and should be avoided, by redirecting that love towards a shared love of the mind, of philosophy, which is the love of knowledge. The speech then outlines the kind of relationship ideal for forming this love of knowledge: an older lover who mentors a younger beloved.
In The Phaedrus, “lover” and “beloved” are social roles with a certain set of culturally-inscribed behavioral and aesthetic expectations. The lover is supposed to be older, wiser, and passionately in love with the beloved’s physical beauty, but restrains himself from acting on his erotic desire, and instead channels his passion towards guiding the beloved in matters of philosophy. The beloved is supposed to be younger, physically beautiful, and in love with the passion for knowledge and virtue that his lover inspires. In this model, the beloved reflects the lover’s passion back at him (implying that passion for the lover does not originate from within the beloved himself), and in mirroring his lover, he loves him, but thinks it is friendship, because his love is a love of virtue and philosophy, not a love of physical beauty.
I find it a bit similar in some ways to “femme” and butch” social/gender identities in lesbian culture, in that there are a set of traits typically associated with each role (butch = masculine, femme = feminine), but these associations feel limiting when people are expected to conform to them 100% of the time, and are quite harmful when applied to relationship dynamics (such as expecting butches to always “take the lead” because they are masculine-presenting).
Plato's idea of love between men as a means to loving philosophy & civic virtue also mirrors the idea of love between men and women as a means to procreation, or love between women as a means to feminist liberation. Love can facilitate all of these goals, but the expectation that love must facilitate these goals, and the idea that these goals are the only legitimate reason to love leads to a lot of human misery.
On the limitations of Plato’s model of love, the roman skeptic Cicero commented:
"For what is that friendly love? Why does no one love a deformed youth or a comely old man?"--Cicero, Tusc. Quaes., iv. 33.
The question observes that men who do not fit into the lover/beloved roles have no place in this model of love. Similarly, The Charioteer also questions the usefulness of the Platonic model for a gay man in a world without institutionalized pederasty.
From the outset, Laurie’s love for Ralph fails to conform to the platonic model. He is a young man drawn to the physical beauty of a comely older man. The beloved, like the sexless Victorian woman, is assumed to possess no sexual desire of his own, which is why his passion is supposed to be a reflection of the lover’s passion, and his acceptance of the lover’s erotic desires is supposed to be motivated by compassion. However, Laurie's love for Ralph is physical as well as intellectual and emotional, he is moved by both compassion and lust, admiration and protectiveness.
Laurie notices early during his reunion with Ralph that he cannot and does not want to fit into the role of a beloved, but finds it even more impossible for him to imagine being Ralph’s older and wiser lover. Even Bunny had the good fortune (from Laurie’s POV) of being able to be Ralph’s teacher for a bit. Bunny can be Ralph’s lover, because he can teach him things he didn’t know, while Laurie has nothing to teach.
Since he cannot be Ralph's lover or beloved, Laurie wants to be Ralph’s equal, but his only guide to a morally acceptable gay relationship depicts an unequal relationship as the spiritual ideal. And zooming out of Plato for a moment, there is no “map” to an equal relationship to be found anywhere in Laurie’s life: he lives in a society where women are still expected to be submissive to men in marriage.
Having no role that suits him, Laurie flips between being the beloved and the lover in his relationship with Ralph. He wants to blame Ralph for “inspiring” his love, which puts him in the role of the beloved, but he also wants to take responsibility for his love, which would make him a lover, but Ralph does not seem to rely on him for anything.
The Phaedrus brought Laurie comfort and hope when he started out on his journey to self discovery, but its outdated instructions for a relationship are no longer useful. The rigid roles of lover vs beloved that Laurie unconsciously tries to adopt in turn fail to satisfy his need to love and be loved, to know and be known, to admire and be admired, to help and be helped.
15 At which point did you know TC was going to be One Of Those Books for you?
Answered here.
16 Missing scene you're most curious about.
Answered here.
24 Most surprisingly modern aspect of TC.
Ralph and Laurie feeling alienated from the queer party and hookup culture and wanting to settle down in a conventional middle class life is something that resonates with a large part of contemporary queer culture. The desire for marriage and domesticity as means of assimilating in mainstream society was a major impetus for marriage equality movements around the world!
Another (unsurprisingly) modern aspect of TC is the depiction of misogyny in queer spaces. It has sadly not gone away.

Queer Relationships in the Green Sea
Tumblr media
Kobani is a world of hundreds of lands, cultures, and religions, as such the nature of identity, how gender and sex is thought of, and what is acceptable varies wildly from region to region, even from house to house. This post will delve somewhat into the nature of sexuality as it is most often expressed in 4 regions of the Green Sea: Kishetal, Apuna, Korithia, and Ikopesh. The examples given are only some of the more culturally pertinent and present instances of these sorts of relationships within each culture and in no way captures the full range of sexual and romantic behavior in these places.
In the future I will create a similar post discussing identity and the function of gender among these peoples.
For the purposes of this post, I will be using typically gendered language such as men and women to refer to all individuals exhibiting or actively primarily participating in either masculine or feminine behavior respectively, which is not limited to cis people, but may also include trans people and some non-binary individuals. Gender-Fluid folk and other Gender Queer individuals who do not fall as neatly into a masculine or feminine designation will be addressed in the next post.
A Note on Sexual Identity:
How sexuality is understood in much of the Green Sea is quite different than how it is understood on modern Earth. For example in the Kishic language there is no specific words used to denote concepts like homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, etc, as the concept of sexual preference as a central tenant of identity is a concept that is fairly alien. As such, this post will for the most part not address queer sexual identities as titles given to individuals; gay, lesbian, bisexual, polysexual, pansexual, demisexual, etc, but rather will focus on the nature of the relationships themselves, without applying specific designation to the individuals involved aside from general classifications such as queer.
1. Same-Sex Relationships
MLM
Tumblr media
Homosexual interests and acts are not only considered normal for men in places like Kishetal, but indeed those men who do not show some sort of interest in other men romantically or sexually are often viewed with a certain level of suspicion at least in the more urban areas of the eastern Green Sea. Many Kishic and Korithian men will participate in queer relationships throughout most of their lives. Some of these relationships may be purely sexual and lack any romantic elements; it is not unusual for male friends to at times engage in homoerotic behavior. Other relationships may be purely romantic without a sexual element. The Kishic man who keeps his wife for sex and his lover for conversation is a common motif in poetry.
While most men will participate in some level of homosexuality, marriage is still fairly rare due in large part to religious and social expectations of child-rearing.
“Even with their meager money, the two brothers were able to afford a pleasant meal; olives, fish, a few pieces of flatbread, and a cup of warm beer each. Suru pointed out the women and the handful of passing men, which he found most attractive; they varied greatly in appearance and seemed to come from all corners of the Green Sea. Narul sheepishly did the same, pointing out a handful of women and men as they passed. A farmer, a potter, a few seamstresses, a young man leading a flock of sheep, a young woman carrying bundles of linen. Each time Narul pointed, Suru would nudge his arm and encourage him to introduce himself, and each time Narul would adamantly refuse and lower his gaze to the dusty ground.” Testaments of the Green Sea, Chapter 2.
Apuna: The Priests of Nur
In Apuna, the all male priesthood of the God Nur, the god of agriculture and the divine seed, are forbidden from marriage or intercourse with one exception; they may marry and sleep with each other. Marriages of the Priests of Nur are treated as religious events, with both priests dressing in the garb of the God. In Apuna, marriage between men outside of the order of Nur is taboo, as it is believed that the primary function of marriage is to create further workers and farmers to feed and build the lands of the Fapacha. As all marriages must first be permitted by a local magistrate or pabaket, most (but not all) are rejected. As a result, many mlm couples instead join the priesthood, allowing for their marriage. As a result, the Order of Nur, while not the most politically powerful order, is, by the sheer number of priests within it, the largest. Nur is known by some as the God of Lovers.
Kishetal: Marriage and the Unseen Child Tax
Marriage between men is rare in Kishetal, though no city-state has declared it illegal, in much the same way as the Order of Nur in Apuna, many of the priests of the river God Jirmaha often practice ritual marriage and courtship. Outside of the realm of temple life. Marriage between Kishic men is most common in the cities and between soldiers. As has been previously stated, there is no law in any Kishic city that forbids mlm marriages; however, many marriages come with stipulations. In many of the mountain cities, married couples must pay an Unseen Child tax; that is to say, they must pay or produce (depending on the occupations of the couple) the equivalent revenue or product which could have been made by a child, which is most typically calculated as a third of the normal tax or production burden. No such law exists for couples in which both partners are infertile or if the lovers are sages.
Korithia: Battle Love
Korithia is unique amongst the lands of the Eastern Green Sea in that homosexual marriage is almost entirely illegal. Loving relationships between men of equal standing or outside of the realm of warfare is typically frowned upon. These attitudes are inherited from both the now-extinct Arkodian culture and the Baalic culture. Despite the forbidden nature associated with mlm marriage and the litany of stereotypes and insults used for queer men, homoerotic relationships are common, but often illicit affairs. Korithian men often have relations with their male slaves or else may sneak off to special brothels with male workers. The exception to this is in battle. Battle Love is an often romanticized relationship between male soldiers. Partners may give each other gifts, share tents, and participate in homosexual acts. Often they will fight together in battle. Many commanders will not only allow for but push these relationships as a way to promote unity and cohesion.
Many wealthy Korithian couples may flee east to Ikopesh or Kishetal in order to legally marry. The phenomenon is so common in Kishetal that these men even have a name in Kishic, Chitibah, Sea-birds.
Ikopesh: Unity Ships
Ikopesh is often considered a safe haven for queer individuals. There are no laws that differentiate or add stipulations to any sort of marriage. And indeed, many Ikopeshi men may have multiple marriages to multiple men and women. The most lauded form of Ikopeshi poetry are Sea-Ballads, love songs typically sung between male lovers.
Ikopeshi weddings, regardless of the gender of the participants, are long and drawn-out affairs, sometimes lasting up to a week. Central to these weddings is the creation of a vessel called a unity ship. Built by both the couple and their families, a unity ship must be a fully functional boat, typically a small sailing vessel. It is considered traditional for the partners to create the sail themselves. At the end of the wedding, the partners are expected to sail the unity ship. If the ship sinks or takes on water, it is considered an ill omen for the future of the relationship.
It is not at all unusual for an mlm couple to adopt or be given a niece or nephew to raise as their own child. Indeed an infant or else the promise of an infant from a brother, sister, or cousin is a common wedding gift. Such gifts must be carefully planned amongst the families, however, as it has happened on several occasions that a newlywed Ikopeshi couple is given several infants.
WLW
Tumblr media
In general same sex relationships between women are far less socially accepted or at the very least, less socially acknowledged. Whereas in regions such Kishetal, homoerotic relationships between men are considered normal if not essential to a man’s development, similar relationships between women are often viewed as frivolous or odd. Despite this there are rich sapphic sub-cultures throughout the Green Sea.
Apuna: River Maidens and Desert Flowers.
As with mlm relationships, wlw relationships and particularly marriages are viewed with a certain level of taboo. Typically relationships are done in secret or under the guise of other events. It is not unusual for poetry and weaving groups to in actuality be secret meetings between queer women. There are exceptions however.
Some Apunian women flee to the Putla River, and from there will typically live a itinerate lifestyle traveling up and down the river together, moving from village to village and city to city, typically acting as traveling merchants. They may even partake in secretive weddings. Though these unions are not acknowledged or accepted by the pabakets or the Fapacha, these unions are incredibly important in the communities. These women are referred to as River Maidens.
In similar fashion, queer Apunian women may leave the oppressive grips of Apunian culture and instead join the myriad of nomadic tribes which inhabit the Red Desert where their lifestyle is typically better accepted. These women are known in Apuna and the surrounding areas as Desert Flowers, and are a popular trope in romantic poetry.
Kishetal: Storm Step and Sea-Foam Marriages
There is a rich underground sub-culture in Kishic cities which revolve around queer women and other queer groups. This culture is responsible for a widely popular and celebrated style of dance theater known as Storm Step. The style of theater is almost entirely non-verbal and rather is dependent on facial and bodily expression. The dances are performed on hollow wooden platforms, producing loud thundering sounds, thus giving the style of theater its name. Unlike most styles of theater in Kishetal, Storm Step is entirely dominated by women, and more often then not pairs of sapphic lovers. In some instances entire troupes may form polyamorous unions. Though wlw relationships are typically seen as taboo, these productions are incredibly popular among Kishic nobles.
While wlw marriages are banned in most Kishic cities, there are exceptions on the southern coast. There, in several of the small villages, Kishic and foreign women may be married. These Sea-Foam marriages, much like the Apunian River Maiden marriages are typically not accepted outside of their communities.
Korithia: Guard Dogs and Poetry
Queer relationships between women are strictly forbidden, many Korithian philosophers even believe that homoerotic relations between women cause infertility. Marriages are typically arranged, as such most women regardless of sexuality will be married to men. There is a common motif in Korithian literature in which while men are at war, their wives fall in love with one another, thus rendering them infertile.
Such stories have created such a strong sense of paranoia amongst Korithian men that many will purchase special male slaves known as garulo-bora or Guard Dogs, meant to watch their wives in order to keep them from participating in queer behavior. Perhaps unsurprisingly, many husbands return to find their wives mysteriously pregnant or having run away with the men in question. And indeed how much queer behavior these Guard Dogs actually prevent is questionable. Among some populations, an entirely new script known as Choylatari has been formed to allow for elite women to communicate secretly between one another, often via scrawled messages on the sides of houses.
Many temples and sects of priestesses such as the Order of the Moon Goddess, Fokisa, have become queer enclaves. The temple of Fokisa at Atamis is particularly known for the relationships between its priestesses. Many runaway wives and daughters will come to the temple, and once the oath to the goddess is taken, the woman’s bonds to their male relatives are cut. A group of well-armed and trained priestesses among the order known as the Fokisoylai have formed as a response to angry ex-husbands and fathers. The Fokisoylai are feared and respected archers.
Ikopesh: Pirates and Ahlu
As with mlm relationships, Ikopesh is extremely open and lax when it comes to relationships between women. Marriages between mlm couples and wlw couples are functionally identically, typically consisting of the creation of the Unity Boat and the gifting of an infant. Though all Ikopeshi peoples grow their hair long, the braiding of the hair has become a popular element of sapphic marriages, with Ikopeshi women braiding the hair of their in-laws as a sign of respect.
There is a tradition among woman pirates on Ikopeshi ships to produce what is called, a wail, or Ahlu. Each ship has a different call. The Ahlu is made while a victim ship is being attacked and boarded and is meant to terrify the crew of the enemy vessel. Ships with larger portions of women, such as those with several wlw couples or partnerships on board, produce eerie harmonic calls which fill the stories of Kishic and Korithian sailors. These Ikopeshi women, are known by Kishic sailors as Wailers or Sea-Demons.
2. Polyamory/Polygamy
Tumblr media
Polygamy is a regular feature in many of the cultures of Kobani, particularly in the Green Sea. Elite men regularly take multiple wives largely for political reasons. However these relationships have been traditionally built from a place of power or privilege, in which multiple partners are married or else connected to a single central individual, either through choice or via force while not being romantically or sexually involved with each other, i.e. a man may have seven wives, but this does not mean that the wives are thus married to or necessarily involved with one another. Typically these relationships are defined by gender based power imbalance.
Outside of the realm of traditionally polygamous structures, Consensual Non-monogamous relationships, or polyamory, both sexual and not, are present through out the Green Sea though not always socially accepted. For the purposes of this post this does not include flings and short sexual escapades such as those with prostitutes, but rather focuses on distinct and continuous relationships between multiple individuals. Some examples of polyamorous relationships have already been addressed and will be addressed further below. Not all polyamorous relationships are enclosed, in fact the majority are not. Often people, particularly those who travel regularly, may have multiple unconnected relationships in different areas.
Apuna: The Order of Nur and the Wives of the Fapacha
The priests of Nur have been discussed above. While marriage itself is traditionally limited between two individuals, the same cannot be said of relations outside of the realm of marriage. It is not unusual for the sexual activities of both partners to extend outside of the confines of the couple or, indeed for multiple married pairs to form small polyamorous groups. While these pairings are typically frowned upon, little is done by head priests and other authorities to combat this phenomenon.
Outside of the temple of Nur, polyamorous relationships do exist, particularly amongst many of the delta cities; however, there is no significant sub-culture currently surrounding these groups.
The ruler of Apuna, the divine king or Fapacha, typically has several wives. Most typically these wives are born from other lands such as Kishetal or Korithia, and are sent as diplomatic goods. It is traditional that the first wife of a Fapacha should be from Apuna itself. The largest number of wives held by a Fapacha was seventy-two. In addition to wives, a Fapacha may have several concubines or attendees, both men, and women.
Interestingly a biologically female Fapacha, will also typically have multiple married partners, though they are still women. Regardless of the biological characteristics of the Fapacha, the Fapacha is in the Apunian tradition, necessarily masculine These Fapacha may adopt children as heirs, task specially chosen nobility or else relatives to provide heirs with the wives, or else may go through a complicated ritual in which the Fapacha will temporarily relinquish their throne, thus ceremonially transitioning to their previous state and will lay with a man, typically a chosen noble, during this time in an attempt to become pregnant.
The nature of the Fapacha as it relates to trans identity in Apuna will be addressed in the next post.
Kishetal: The Wives of the Kings and Sea-Lovers
As with Apuna, Kishic kings typically take multiple wives for political reasons. Each is expected to produce a child, if this requirement is not met, the marriage is considered to be forfeit. The largest number of wives held by a Kishic king was by the Labisaji King, Hutbari, who, at the time of his death, had 26 wives and approximately 32 children. As with the Apunian Fapacha, it is typical for Kishic kings to also hold several other sexual and romantic partners aside from their wives.
The practice of taking a Sea-Lover is quite common among the sailors of Kishetal’s western coast. These sorts of relationships typically take place between sailors serving on the same ship in which one or both individuals are already married. These relationships are made with the consent of all parties and in fact, are encouraged by wives in order to discourage the likelihood of romantic or sexual investments with women in other lands. Typically these relationships are limited to the sea and will dissolve should one partner leave the service of the crew.
But this is not always the case. On rare occasions, the relationship between Sea-Lovers may extend outside of the ship and may grow to include the married partners, forming enclosed relationships in which all parties have the ability to engage with each other.
Narul nodded respectfully to the man and asked.
“So are you two…” “We’re Sea-Lovers.” Dati said simply, sitting on a crate. Narul looked at him blankly. “Ah! You’re not a coastal man are you?” Istek chuckled. Narul shook his head. “Well, for sailors like us sometimes we’re out here on the sea for weeks or months bouncing from port to port away from our wives. So some sailors find another person on their ship to be close to. You see? For most folk it's only a thing at sea. But Dati and I, we’re together all of the time. When we’re on land, Sintu joins us and the three of us do what we will.” “Is Sintu another sailor?” Narul asked curiously.
“No, Sintu is my wife.” Istek laughed.- Testaments of the Green Sea
Korithia: Supplicants of Anurosa
As with homosexual behavior, Korithia is highly intolerant or at least dismissive of polyamorous relationships, and unlike many other lands, Korithian monarchs do not practice polygamy.
This is, of course, not to say that polyamorous relationships do not occur. However, they are intentionally secretive and upon discovery, will typically lead to public shame and ridicule. Some of the Fokisoyla may participate in non-monogamous relationships, but even this is rare.
Many Korithian men do have romantic and/or sexual relationships with slaves and underlings but such pairings, while common are taboo and when exposed are often justified as shows of power. Any relationship in which a Korithian man does not take the domineering position is considered deeply shameful.
The Supplicants of the Trickster God Anurosa are the exception. Worshiped almost exclusively in the south of Korithia, Anurosa seems to predate both Korithia and Arkodai, and may have instead stemmed from Forest-Folk religions in the southern islands. Anurosa is a genderless and ageless being, most often depicted as an androgynous figure with the curling horns of an ibex. The faith, Anurosianism, focuses heavily on magic and its leaders, sometimes called Olive Wardens, are almost universally sages. The rituals and ceremonies of the faith rely on magic and the application of intoxicating substances.
The doctrine of Anurosa focuses heavily on change and the seasons. Polyamory is not only common but encouraged in the mountain sanctuaries where the god is worshiped. Marriage is not a recognized aspect of Anurosianism, and indeed those who join the faith must relinquish their marriages. Many Olive Wardens have a separate partner for each season and will ceremonially leave or live with these partners in time with the progression of the year.
Ikopesh: Grand Weddings
Ikopeshi culture has no taboo against polyamorous behavior before marriage. After marriage, acting outside of the bond is considered highly taboo unless agreed upon by all parties.
There is no provision in Ikopeshi culture which states that marriage must only be between two individuals, rather it must be between two parties. This is to say 1 person may marry 1 person, or 1 may marry a group of 2, 2 may marry 2, 3 may marry 1, etc. In each instance the marriage is between the collective group, as such if one person were to marry into a group of three, they are necessarily marrying all three people as a single entity, and the same is true should they leave. And in the case of these Grand Weddings all individuals in the relationship must be in agreement. The largest married group consisted of twenty-seven individuals. Such large groups are rare, and most Ikopeshi marriages are between two to four people. The purpose of marriage is primarily focused on property. Married groups share the rights to land, ships, children, livestock, etc.
3. Celibacy/ Asexual Relationships
Tumblr media
The choice to abstain from sexual or romantic relationships is not uncommon in the countries of the Green Sea. Reasons for why individuals may choose to not participate in marriage or in sexual relations vary, for many it comes down to personal preference, religion, or political reasoning.
Many cultures do have specific terms for those who forgo sex and/or romance. However most cultures fail to make a distinction between those that choose celibacy for personal reasons and those who do not feel sexual and/or romantic attraction.
For the purposes of this post, the focus will primarily be on celibacy rather than the individual experience of asexuality. People from all cultures may exhibit asexuality and/or aromanticism to some degree, as might any relationships in which they take part. In this case I will focus on specific instances of commonly acknowledged forms of celibacy in these places. As with the other groups and sexual identities in this post, these by no means are meant to represent the full extent of experience within these regions.
Apuna: The Disciples of Anwya
The blind poetess Anwya was perhaps the most famous in the history of Apuna, her greatest work, The Dance of Golden Eddies, is the greatest example of epic poetry in Apunian culture. Anwya despite her supposed beauty, never married, and according to legend was entirely celibate. There exists in Apuna a sub-culture of poets and artists, of all genders, who forgo sex and love in an attempt to both honor and replicate the skill of their hero.
Disciples of Anwya carry small switches, resembling those used to swat flies, and will brandish them at would-be suitors. As a result of this custom, these poets are often symbolized by said swatters and are often referred to as the fly-banes.
At the Festival of Anwya, celebrated in the capital city of Nashawey, the followers of this tradition perform the works of Anwya as well as works of their own meant to replicate her style. Some choose in time to leave this lifestyle but the majority choose to remain. It is not at all unusual for individuals to become followers, if only to avoid the pressure to marry or have children.
Outside of the followers of Anwya, celibacy, with the exception of a handful of religious orders, is frowned upon for the same reasons as homosexuality.
Kishetal: Seers, Sages, and Singers
It is common in Kishetal for sages, particularly seers, to forgo marriage, sex, and childbirth in large part due to the highly stressful and damaging effects which sagecraft has upon the human body. In the rare cases when sages and seers do participate in relationships they are typically with one another though not always as was the case with the seer Zenit and the Kishic Emperor Akard.
In similar fashion to the Disciples of Anwya, some Kishic artisans and performers may choose to forgo relationships as a way to hone their art. This is particularly true for women, who in some cases may choose to become artists rather than be married off. Superstition states that prayers and ceremonial songs performed by virgin adults are more likely to win favor from the gods, and many such people will hire out their services as singers. If it is discovered that a person has lied about their celibacy in these instances, the punishment is often severe.
In the western regions of Kishetal, many plantbrews and philosophers choose celibacy as they believe sex and marriage to be a distraction. In the oligarchic city of Chibal, the plant brews which work in the central palace, the Cabanki, must be unmarried and have no children. Some may willingly allow for their own castration or sterilization to secure the coveted position.
The only Kishic religious order which demands celibacy is that of the moon goddess, Sonma, whose temple sits at the center of the theocratic city-state of Syshlum. The order of Sonma is notoriously strict. The followers of Sonma, regardless of biological sex, are treated as and referred to as feminine. Priestesses are strictly forbidden from marriage or sex. Even bringing a child into the temple is highly forbidden. The punishment for a priestess disobeying this oath is almost always death, either from stoning or else from banishment into the mountains.
Korithia: Golden Hens and the Children of Ana
Golden Hen is a name given, typically to women, who due to their skill in some sort of creative endeavor, typically weaving or singing, are kept at home for financial gain, rather than being married off. Such arrangements are more common in the north, though they are typically frowned upon in all areas of Korithia. The Greedy father who would prefer that his daughter remain unmarried and thus locks his daughter away is a popular trope in Korithian theater.
Followers of the philosopher and politician Firatos in the northern islands, willingly take up hermit like lifestyles, choosing to live separate from other people in secluded huts and houses, though some will also choose to live with others who share their philosophical ideals in small communes. Firatoics forgo all romance and sex along with any product sourced from animals. They eat no meat, cheese, milk, butter, and wear no wool. The lifestyle of the Firatoics is heavily focused on meditation and physical exertion, as they believe that stress induced to the body increases mental fortitude. Most Korithians view the Firatoics as fanatical.
The influence of Anwya and the tradition of her disciples refusing sex and marriage has spread to Korithia, particularly in the south, though in Korithia the poet is known as Ana. Poets of this tradition, both male and female, keep their heads covered by thick veils. Unlike in Apuna, Ana/Anwya is prayed to directly and almost thought of as a minor deity. According to the Korithian version of Anwya/Ana’s life, the poet was a demigod, child of wind spirit and a lost shepherd. As such, it has become commonplace for these nomadic poets to travel with shepherd’s crooks.
Ikopesh: Green Parents
Asexuality and Celibacy are both accepted by the tribes of Ikopesh, almost universally. There is no Ikopeshi religious or philosophical tradition that demands celibacy. Unlike in some cultures, a lack of sex or the production of children is not a requirement of marriage and is thus not a respectable grounds for separation so long as the sexual interests and needs of both parties are confirmed before the marriage.
Those who don’t marry or produce children, whether through choice or circumstance often become what is commonly called Green Parents. Green Parents act as secondary guardians or caretakers for their community’s children, particularly when parents are away whether at sea or in the field. Those who become Green Parents are typically no longer permitted to leave the islands. In exchange, Green Parents are dearly celebrated, often showered with gifts and adoration during festival seasons.

hi mott!! first of all thank you for giving us 2 chapters at once 🙏 blessed are we and thank you to your wife for making you do that lmao.
i just wondered... is there going to be any speculation or conversation around Ed and like, gender stuff? as a genderfluid person myself i couldn't help but EYEZOOM on the couple of times where ed refers to himself as 'princess' or 'captain's wife' etc.
just curious!
☠🏴‍☠️🦜🏳️‍🌈
Howdy, friend ❤️ I shall pass your thanks along to Mrs Moth. She read them a few days ago and said, "These chapters would be nice posted together." And thus it was Decided.
Hell or High Water Ed has applied fairytale terms to his relationship with Stede a couple of times now - a Stede who (to Ed) seems much more secure in himself these days, a hero/prince charming type, while Ed is feeling very much in need of rescue. He's also maybe pained by the fact that male/female marriages have a whole clear cut system (e.g., when he's annoyed at his mum in this chapter) but he's having to build something from scratch, nothing easy, nothing he can just plug and play. "Captain's wife" is a ready-fit role that everyone would understand and respect off the bat; "captain's guest/ex(?)-lover/ex(?)-friend" is a mess, and Ed doesn't have much fight in him at this stage in the story. His entire identity is pretty fluid for now.
I don't have any plans to alter what's seen in the show in terms of gender - I loved Taika's interview where he says OFMD asks the question "what is it to be a man?" - I suppose I'm choosing to add to the pot that a man can long to be a gentleman's wife, and still be a man. Does that means there's already been exploration of gender stuff? Maybe. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out the liquefaction point of gender. At what stage is it considered to have become fluid?
(Presumably when it conforms to the shape of its container but maintains a fairly constant density.)
(Also, my friend just bought a t-shirt which says 'gender? I hardly know her'. I have no reason for sharing this except that I think it's amazing.)
Thank you muchly for reading ❤️

What also rather galls, as an aroace person, about the Peter headcanon is that a certain character is right there, who is canonically shown to ignore the interest of women in favor of giving a thumbs up to his best friend and who is completely defined by his platonic relationships, never showing any interest in anyone romantically in canon, but because he’s hot and well liked, by the fandom that headcanon is almost non-existent for him.
bold question to ask a wolfstar shipper.
okay, but in all seriousness, your anger and frustration are completely valid. before I started shipping wolfstar (which was like, a year ago) and latched onto it [remus lupin is one of my favourite characters & the sheer tragedy, also prefer friends to lovers], I firmly headcanoned sirius as aroace in my head. I really enjoy fic where he is written as ace or aro spec, as I think it really does fit with his character. Outside of wolfstar, I prefer him to be written as aroace than anything else: hence my legendary 'my imagination does not extend to a world where sirius black is straight', even though widely tagged with wolfstar [which, valid], also wholeheartedly and equally applies to aroace sirius. also, fandom peeps, being m|m and a-spec are far from mutually exclusive, which about 90% of you tend to forget.
fandom as a whole has an issue of prioritising romantic love over anything else and treating m|m or w|w as the top tier queer dynamic and completely ignoring a-spec identities and treating them like queer lite, which is completely problematic. made a rant post about that a few months ago.
being mad about inadequate aspec representation is a running theme for me. join the club!
I think, just like I am a multi-shipper, I also fully support and enjoy differing interpretations of characters' sexual and gender identities. say, for example, izzy lightwood, who I've written as aro pansexual and as sapphic. both equally valid!
also, aroace men and gay men and aroace women and lesbians share quite a bit in common, often defined by their absence of attraction. people tend to forget that. aroace headcanons do not take away from that representation, ffs. it's necessary and complementary. see: elsa from frozen, who is widely headcanoned as a lesbian and aroace, or artemis, etc.
people have trouble seeing conventionally attractive people and, consequently, characters, as aromantic and asexual and have incredible difficulty respecting their identities and self-determination: the backlash yasmin benoit has experienced is a prime example.
so, in short, marauders fandom, you know what to do! you're such virulent multishippers; try exploring a-spec identities once in a while. maybe even throw in an aroace sirius in there! not everyone needs to be partnered off, either, and it's not a 'tragedy' if it doesn't happen, you amatonormative fucks.
anyway, stop using widely loathed peter pettigrew as your token representation, thank you and good night.
.
Mini Rec List of some a-spec Sirius Black, because we deserve it:
the unrequited and the loveless (aroace sirius)
Everything is right (ace sirius, chef's kiss)
That's about all I've read, as you've rightly identified, it's not a widespread headcanon. But yeah. Not everything is romantic. Sometimes it's just platonic.
And people need to learn to accept that.
