When the First World War broke out in 1914, Adolf H"tler enthusiastically volunteered to join the German army.
He was assigned to the ground troops on the Western Front. As a messenger, he delivered messages from the army command to the front.
In December 1914, he is awarded the Iron Cross II Class for his bravery. In a letter to his former landlord, he writes: "It was the happiest day of my life."
Among other things, the he was considered an "eccentric", whose only friend was his dog, a white terrier with a black left ear. He came to him in mid-March 1915, probably from a British trench. He christened him "Foxl" and looked after him for two years.
According to the impression of a fellow soldier, he was more interested in animals than the men in his small group of messengers. He also received no letters from home.
Another picture with Foxl was taken at the beginning of July 1917, but three weeks later the animal suddenly disappeared. The animal may have been stolen by an employee of the railroad. In any case, this was a great personal loss for him.
The question of what reputation he enjoyed in the army is answered differently in research. He is described as an antisocial eccentric - but also as an impeccable comrade. It is documented that some called him the “spinnerten Österreicher” ("crazy Austrian"). He was opinionated and argumentative, as his temporary superior Wilhelm Dieß later recounted. He was a law professor and one of the most important Bavarian storytellers of the 20th century.
When Germany lost the war in November 1918, he was in a military hospital. He was temporarily blinded by a poison gas attack. The news of Germany's surrender plunged him into a deep crisis. His war experiences had a great influence on his life and thinking. Under the impression of the lost war, he becomes radicalized and politically active.

I didn't hate Civil War, but I wouldn't say I absolutely loved it, either. It is an amazing movie, but it was very hard to watch.
I would say it is best to watch Civil War knowing as little as possible, so please be warned for any potential spoilers below.
It is incredibly well written, directed, shot, and acted. I really appreciate the story, it gripped me from the beginning, with the unique sound design during the A24 title card.
But I also nearly got a panic attack in the first 5 minutes. This movie is definitely not for those with PTSD, especially combat and/or gun-related trauma. If any of those apply to you and you still want to see it, I wouldn't recommend IMAX. You will feel every shot fired. Otherwise, the biggest screen with the loudest speakers is the best way to watch Civil War.
The cast was fantastic. Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura felt so real, and Stephen McKinley Henderson just seems like an expansion of his Dune character, in the best way. I'll be honest, and again this is kind of a spoiler, but I was expecting more Jesse Plemons. He was great, the scene was fantasticly blood-pumping, but I just thought he might have a larger role. My real standout performance, though, is from Cailee Spaeny as Jessie. Last seeing her in Pacific Rim: Uprising helped to reinforce the idea that she's still "just a kid", but her performance as the story progresses really exemplifies the horror of war that turns bright-eyed kids into weary adults in an instant.
As much as people will try to figure out the politics of Civil War or just make up their own, this movie isn't about politics. There is a scene that really drives the message home, if you're paying attention (LAST SPOILER WARNING).
The scene at the winter wonderland is just a microcosm of the movie and the war. You have two sides shooting at each other, and all that matters to the other is that they shoot first. It doesn't matter who started or who is from where or who believes in what. That might've mattered at the beginning, but now all that matters is being the last one standing.
It doesn't matter who started the war or why, all that matters to either side is victory.
I am a pacifist, but I appreciate war films, because most of them are anti-war. Civil War was hard to watch, but I'm very glad I did.

‘Come and See’ (1985) I drew this last year but was too insecure to post it because I didn’t think it was a ‘polished’ enough piece. I made this with an ink pen and Crayola crayons 🖍️ and it’s one of the pieces I am still proud of to this day. This is my take on a poster for the film of the same name, which is an anti-war horror film. It is a heartbreaking film but I think it’s a necessary watch for anyone looking for something realistic and harrowing to watch.

One thing that I didn’t appreciate about “Starship Troopers” as a kid was how they portrayed the battles. I thought it was just bad writing at the time. Now, I can see it for the brilliant satire that it is. You have this nation that is always projecting military strength and showing off their weaponry and soldiers. But then you watch the actual battle and the troops are:
1) ill-equipped to the point that it takes multiple soldiers to take down one bug since their rifles do little damage on their own
2) are in a battlefield without armored vehicles or air support
3) given no strategy besides shoot everything that isn’t human
4) gullible and consumed so much propaganda to the point that they legitimately believed the bugs were stupid and easy to destroy
5) developed an irrational, xenophobic hatred of all bugs because of the aforementioned propaganda
And instead of switching up the tactics, the Federation just keeps on sending meat wave after meat wave. The humans only “won” because they finally overwhelmed the bugs. Before then, they were getting slaughtered left and right. It’s like a dumb, Michael Bay sci-fi version of “All Quiet on the Western Front”.
