Creatures from Chinese mythology (Moon Rabbit, Sun Crow, Pixiu, Qilin) (1/3)
Moon Rabbit: The Moon Rabbit is the companion of the moon goddess, Chang’e. If you look at the full moon, you can see the Moon Rabbit working hard mixing up an elixir of immortality in its mortar.
Sun Crow: The Sun crow, also known as the Sanzuwu, is a three-legged crow that carries the sun. In ancient times, there were ten sun crows that carried ten separate suns. The ten Sun Crows each took turns ushering in the day, until one day where they all decided to rise at once, causing a great calamity!
Pixiu: The Pixiu are auspicious creatures that draw in good fortune (both of the luck variety and the gold variety) and ward off evil spirits. Their diet is made up of gold and precious gemstones.
Qilin:
Qilin are benevolent, mystical beasts wreathed in flame and smoke. They are said to walk on clouds to avoid harming even a single blade of grass. Its name is often translated as “unicorn” in English, and it is known as the Kirin in Japanese.
Fun fact! The image of the Qilin was at one point associated with that of the giraffe due to their similarities (giraffes have hooves and long legs like the Qilin, giraffes’ ossicones look like horns, and giraffe spots resemble a Qilin’s scales).

Odysseus' gray hairs are from his tear stains.
On his beard, he has gray streaks right on the corners of his mouth, like how tears would run down your cheeks.
The hair just above his ears and temples has grays as well. From all the years he was forced on his back in which all he could do was weep.
All his tears stained him

I want to love you and not be terrified of it, of you of what it could change but I would love you poorly if I loved with anything less than my full heart and I would love you wrongly if I didn't cherish each piece of you please give me time if you can grant me patience I am creature of selfishness and fear and you make me want to be brave but casting off the long played roles is more difficult than anything I have tried but I swear one day my lips will tell you all
-- until then, I am always half honest by Abby S

Godly Parents: SoC edition
(Lil disclaimer: This is not necessarily PJO's meaning of Godly Parent. It's just basically a "Which God is your godly parent" buzzfeed quiz but with actual information-)
Kaz: Nemesis, Goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. Kaz spent the entire two books and the bigger part of his life holding grudges and planning his revenge on an arrogant man who got away with destroying a bunch of people's lives. He makes it his life mission to make him pay for his crimes.
Inej: Hermes, Messenger of the gods; god of travel, commerce, communication, borders, eloquence, diplomacy and thieves. First of all, Inej is Suli. Suli people are known to be "nomads", travelling from place to place. Second, Kaz hired her to be his spider, to collect and deliver important information, a messenger of some kind. And a detail I particularly liked is the whole thing with the shoes. Hermes most characteristic item are his flying sandals; and Inej is also particularly fond of her climbing leather slippers.
Jesper: Hephaestus, God of the forge, craftsmanship, invention, fire, metallurgy and volcanoes, craftsman of the gods. Yeah, yeah. The obvious reason is in fact because Jesper is a Fabrikator. He literally controls metal. If it's parental issues we're talking about, well, we all know how that went for both of them.
Wylan: Apollo, God of Sun, light, prophecy, philosophy, archery, truth, inspiration, poetry, music, arts, manly beauty, medicine, healing, and plague. "Because of Wylan Van Suns-?" *slap* Shut up, that was literally sarcasm. Wylan's story and latter fate begins because of a music conservatory, and music really played such a big part in his own story as well as his story with Jesper (ehem, piano incident). Also, bit of a fun fact, Apollo is supposedly the creator of the flute so there you go. Another literal thing is that he created a fake plague to help Kaz.
Nina: Hecate, Goddess of the dead's souls, witchcraft and divination. (Matthias would be so happy for the whole witchcraft thing). I don't think I have to elaborate on this one, but just a reminder that Nina can in fact control dead bodies.
Matthias: Hestia, Goddess of the hearth, fire and of the right ordering of domesticity and the family. *Introduces really gut-wrenching line from chapter 40 of Crooked Kingdom about how he finally could go back home*. I know it's kinda ironic that Matthias is from an icy country and Hestia is the Goddess of the fire, but no one said this was a perfect analysis (do I look like Rick Riordan to you?). Matthias was all about family values and homeland really, even if they meant different things at the beginning and at the end of Matthias' story. First it was his bio family, whose death ignited his hatred for the Grisha and his home was Fjerda. But in the end, the Crows became his family, the family he gave his life for, the same way Nina became his home.

I'm sorry but can we talk about Arthur's similarities to Faust???
*Spoiler warning for up to ep31*
For those who don't know German folklore/ literature, Faust follows the tale of a depressed and suicidal man who makes a deal with the devil to fufill his desire for knowledge. Now despite us knowing how Arthur's hunger for information has put his and John's survival at risk on multiple ocasions, There's so many parallels!
Faust makes a deal with a demon, not to concerned with the price. Arthur also makes a deal with a demon (kayne) not to concerned of the price.
Faust seduce a beautiful and innocent young woman, usually named Gretchen, whose life is ultimately destroyed when she gives birth to Faust's illegitimate son. Realizing this unholy act, she drowns the child and is held for murder. I DONT THINK I NEED to talk about this much. The fact that Faroe died drowning, that Faroe was also concieved out of wedlock, that Bella's family is super religious. Also the fact that arthur was this close to destroying Bella's life and leaving her with the child, plays an INTERESTING paraell.
Faust is irrevocably corrupted and believes his sins cannot be forgiven; when the term ends, the Devil carries him off to Hell. Let's just refference all of Arthur's Nightmares and his breakdown after killing Uncle.
I do find this concept interesting because Arthur is heading to New York as Kayne desire, from what prophesies insit is to serve the order of the Fallen Star. If we follow Faustian folklore, it's likely that Arthur is entering a trap in which he's going to see the fine print of his deal, and find himself in servitude. Considering in the story, Mephistopheles (the devils representative) serves Faust with his powers until death, and then the roles reverse. I do find it interesting, considering John is essentially at Arthur's beck and call. Could his secret deal between John and Kayne have something to do with an act of servitude. Has he got something in it to protect himself ? John seems quite desperate to keep Arthur from death, seems more afraid of what waits for arrhur than himself. Something seemed to insist they wont end up in the same place. maybe he knows that the deals made will have Arthur enterally enslaved.
There is a slightly more modern interpretation in which Faust is saved by God via his constant attempts to be a good person. Who knows, maybe John could be his saving grace, and push him in the direction of freedom. Will the King in Yellow save Arthur from Kayne, does God save his follower from the devil?
These are interesting questions, that have me scared.

On Instagram ( rescatedelgrishaverse) I've been comparing Grishaverse to mythological deities. Zoya was my latest!
Before I go on, remember to sign and share the petition!! You can Google it as "Save Shadow and Bone". Today we reached 200k signatures!!
Zoya Nazyalensky|| Bellona
You know why I love Zoya? Because in a society where us girls aren't allowed to be bad, to be tough, to be unforgiving without someone making us feel guilty, having characters like her, characters who defy those stupid enough to tell them what they're supposed to be, it's an honour.
Bellona it's one the Roman deities of war. Bellona was a personification of the most violent aspect of war, but someone who the Romans prayed for victory to. It was in her temple where they held the war counsels. It's in her temple where war was declared, by throwing a spear onto the land "designated" as enenmy; and where the victorious soldiers were received.
Zoya is a little bit like that. She's somewhat unpleasant at times. She can be violent. She can be intimidating. She can be terrifying. And you know what? That's completely fine. Zoya is a born leader, one of the best warriors and someone fiercely loyal to her friends and beliefs. Therefore, she's the best person to command an army.
Sometimes, it's good to have an armour.

7. "can you hear me"
... can you hear me? we're home, we're going to be all right. we did get back safe, the others found us. it wasn't too bad, after we got clear of the woods. I'm safe and so is Kate. she's downstairs making her reports, I think. it's just you we're waiting for now, silly. wake up and say something, you're scaring me.
-
can you hear me? it's late and it's just me here, I'm sitting up with you because even healers need to sleep sometime. I'm sorry we had to hurt you so much changing the bandages. I don't think you knew it was us, I really... kind of hope not because I don't want you to think we were hurting you on purpose. outside the window the moon is like an old silver plate and the clouds have cleared since yesterday. you'd like the way it looks...
-
shhh, shh, can you hear me now? just... calm down. it's all right, I know it hurts, I'm so sorry. I'm here, I'm holding you, you know it's me, right? you need to drink this. I know it's nasty but it'll bring your fever down and you'll feel better then. please, please, I really mean it... there, yes, another sip now, shhh, not much more. then I'll let you rest again.
-
I don't know if you can hear me. I... I hope so. I'm staying here anyway, I'm not leaving, I don't want you to go anywhere either, understand? please. just stay with me. the others are here too, everyone's keeping an eye on you, you know we'd never leave you alone. don't leave us.
-
... can you... hear me? squeeze my hand. yes, there, that's good, I felt that. good job. I know you're tired, you don't have to move, just hold my hand while I clean you up a little. we're fine, everything's fine, it's four days since we got back and your fever's broken. I'm sure you still feel awful but you'll be better soon... Kate's crying out by the chicken coop and I can hear her out the window even if she thinks she's hiding, it's just that she's happy you're all right.
there, you can rest now. get some sleep, I'll be here when you wake up.

The Morrigan
The Phantom Queen, Irish Pagan Goddess of War and Fate. A mysterious goddess of witches and warriors. Much can be said of The Morrigan, and there are many interpretations of her nature and domains; the illustration I offer you is my own.
I was inspired by a scene from Irish Mythology in the Cath Maige Tuired where she takes the blood from the heart of Indech, the enemy Fomorian king, as part of some sort of brutal ritual of war. This occurred not long after Samhain.
