PART 2 BAYBEE WAHOOO!! Three more gijinka designs comin right up!
I plan on posting them in order by groups of three, so there’s gonna be seven parts in total, all of which I’ll be linking here when done vvv
(Part One) (Part Three) (Part Four) (Part Five) (Part Six) (Part Seven)
!! These will contain personal headcanons I have for the cast, little fun facts, and also spoilers for Friendlocke Violet (for both the edited vids and the streams) This also contains a small amount of blood on one of the images!!
Tumblr media
@saltydkart-reblogs
And that’s pretty much it, designs under the cut!
JOE:
Tumblr media
The reason Joe dislikes most bird pokemon such as fletchling is because they're always stealing and pecking at the olives he... or well more specifically his company grows.
Speaking of which, they own a large plot of land which is used specifically to grow olive trees, which of course are used to make the olive oil he sells. What? Did you think that the olives come from Joe themselves? Of course not silly, welcome to capitalism.
That being said, Joe DOES know how to garden. When they first started their olive oil company they had to grow their own olive trees. Nowadays, in their spare time, they'll sometimes be found tending to the olive trees in their company's garden.
His crown is personally tailored for Joe and Joe ONLY. Crafted with the shiniest gold and the richest olives, all fit for a king! Somehow it never falls of his head. (Fun fact: the points are made to look like olive oil bottles)
Joe needs glasses but usually wears contacts when in public. Not that they look bad with glasses, it's just a personal choice.
Joe LOVES being involved in... well, anything! As long as it's not weird or sexual or illegal (that last one counts UNLESS it involves scamming others into buying his oil products), he is more than happy to invite himself into whatever is going on around him. What are you going to do? Stop him? Oh please!
HANNAH Ü:
Tumblr media
At the start of her career, she would spend her days doing her own one-man (or.. well... woman) shows at subway stations, telling stories and entertaining other pokemon and people alike while they waited for the next train to arrive.
Her hat and cape are made entirely of salt! She is able to transform her cape and hat into different shapes and usually used this ability of hers to make stuff such as accessories, hats, and props that fit the role she's donning at the time.
Hannah LOVES collecting stickers and often wears them proudly on her body (in her poke form ofc ofc). However, she usually has to get someone else to stick them onto her bc of her lack of actual hands.
Some of her improv roles are inspired by the people she meets while others are inspired by pieces of media she's interested in at the moment.
Will ABSOLUTELY learn a new language if she needs to for a role. Duolingo speedrun world record
MYKYIE:
Tumblr media
As stated previously, Mykyie used to be a circus performer before he quit to pursue his dreams. His most popular act involved him spinning plates on a stick while standing on a ball.
^^^ Because of this, he also has really, REALLY good balance.
Mykyie always keeps his Miku glowsticks on him, even when not attending any of her concerts.
"Anger Point" is basically an uncontrollable form of last resort whenever Mykyie is close to death but can still fight, it usually leads to him attacking whoever or whatever caused him great harm (In the instance of Lark, it was when he crit Mykyie and the ladder's health was extremely low.)
The Miku tattoo on Mykyie's arm was designed by Mykyie himself! However, it was drawn on him by an anonymous underground artist who went by many names to hide his true identity. The name that the artist went by at the time Mykyie got his tattoo was "Cl@ir33"
The cuffs and cape that he wears are... well, WERE, red. An unknown force seems to be slowly turning them into a shade of blue.
And that's all the HCs for now! Next Gijinka batch will consist of GrAce, Braidy, and Christene's
Also here's the posterless version of Joe's Gijinka bio before I go

It made no sense, how it was even possible? He was a monster! You paced around your bedroom struggling to think as your mind replayed the horrible scene you had just witnessed. Why did it have to be you? It wasn't supposed to happen! Of all the boys you could have fallen for, it had to be him.
On any normal day, you were somewhat of an anime addict, the posters in your room, the videos, the otome games, you were into a lot of anime tropes but never in your life did you expect to meet an actual Kuudere! Ayanokoji was cool and nonchalant, before you knew it, you had developed a crush on him. Sure, something about Ayanokoji just didn't sit right in your spirit and you couldn't explain why you fell for him while suspecting him at the same time!
You had managed to be in his and Horikita's inner circle, he didn't seem like he cared much about anything that was going on, and he had a dark undertone too. Not to mention, the school you attended with them had their own issues. Who gives a task on a cruise ship? You barely understood the rules of the VIP game you were partaking in and it would decide whether or not you had enough points to survive on campus. Being in this school had you in Shikamaru's mood most of the time!
You were lucky enough to be put in the same group as Ayanokoji, but the whole discussion and proposal went in one ear and out the other. Class A and Class B were running the proposals while the rest of the classes watched in silence. No matter what 'teams' we were supposedly on, each person was more loyal to their class. You could not trust anything they said, furthermore, you were hardly a complicated person. 'Find the VIP' was our task, not going through some sherlock holmes mind mapping.
You left soon after class A, not interested in the rest of the conversation, these students could hardly work together when their life depended on it. The first meeting was a waste of your time, you were better off taking a wild guess. Not to mention, Ichinose was pretty vocal which made her a viable suspect. No one suspects the person who is loudest and most open. Then again Class A were also suspects, separating from group questioning was a great cover to protect the VIP and Kei could also be a suspect as she was always on her phone. All things put into consideration, you could narrow them down if you really wanted to.
Day by day, the whole thing was a mess and yet this Ayanokoji dude remained calm for the whole thing! It was traumatising, to say the least. You were in a deadlock for quite some time, you had no idea how you were going to find the VIP. You thought it was going to be a normal day, have a meeting and binge anime. Yet that's when you saw it. You were walking down the hallway when you caught wind of Ayanokoji. You were about to call out to him but he walked toward a strange area. He was heading for the boiler room of the ship. "Where is he going?", you asked yourself as you struggled to keep yourself hidden. You couldn't believe what you saw next! Kei getting bullied and Ayanokoji standing there and then telling her to spread her legs, exchanging numbers?! What the hell was going on? You could make out the conversation but each moment you stayed there, you found it harder to breathe. Just who exactly or what exactly was he? You left the boiler room and ran. You could barely think straight. This was not what you expected! He was not what you thought!  "Y/n, why are you running?", Horikita asked as you sped by her and went straight to your room. Ayanokoji was a monster! Monsters couldn't have friends, monsters couldn't be considerate, monsters couldn't love!
You sat on the floor your hands on either side of your face trying to calm down. Your phone buzzed distracting you from your panic momentarily. A message from the monster himself appeared momentarily on your phone screen reading "Let's talk".

I've tried thinking about which characters in DFF are my favorite and which ones are my least favorite, but that becomes exceedingly difficult as the show progresses. The reason for this is, as many posts have pointed out, the way the show reflects reality and therefore has no "Good and Bad" no "Black and White," but instead simply has many different hues of grey. So, at the end of the day, it all comes down to one's opinion or the way one perceives a character. I will do my best to express my thoughts on each of the 9 main characters.
1. Por
The leader of the pack. He is one of the one's we're obviously not supposed to like as much; he bullied Non, he stole his work, he was two-faced, he almost killed Non. But he still has a bit of complexity added to his character what with his family situation. Ultimately, in my opinion, that does not excuse any of his actions. He is pretty low on my list.
2. Top
This is gonna be a short paragraph. I hate him. The things he did weren't as extreme as some of the things Por did, but he literally has no excuse whatsoever. He's just plain annoying, a bully with a backstory as long as his dick, which is to say nonexistent.
3. Fluke
I think he has morals? If he does he fully does not listen to them. His biggest flaw is his selfishness. I believe he would've ratted Top and Tee out when Top broke the camera if it wouldn't have caused a crack in the friendship of the group, and therefore his spot in the popular group in school. Because let's be honest, he doesn't give a rat's ass about his "friends," he doesn't wanna be a part of whatever they're doing 3/4 of the time. But his selfishness ruins what potential he might've had, to the point of him being downright creepy.
4. Tee
Now this is a character. I think his shade of grey is the perfect blend of both white and black. Yes, I obviously hate what he did, but at the same time I understand. I would rather jump off of a cliff than give someone other than myself problems, but if I was a little less like that and a little more cowardly, I think I could relate to him a lot. He wasn't as warm to Non as Jin was, but he definitely wasn't as cold as Por and Top were. And boy, does he have a past. It looks to me like he's been a part of his uncle's gang for quite a bit, which would obviously quiet the kindness in anyone's voice, if not in there whole being. He has a sick father he genuinley cares about and no other way to make money. He's in a corner. And while I believe there's always a choice, I understand why he saw the one he picked the clearest. The thing, though, is that he didn't want to hurt Non, he didn't want to bring Non to his uncle, it just wasn't as strong as his want for himself and his father to be fine. But this is what makes him stand out more than the other members of the original friend group. He regreted it. He feels guilty. It's quite literally haunting him. He never could and never will be able to escape that part of his life. He even brought Non 2.0 (aka White) right up close to himself, and he would do anything to keep White there, safe where he can see him. So while I don't like him, and he is easily one of the more everything-i-do-damages-Non characters, he is still a very interesting one.
5. Jin
I can't explain how much I hate him. When I was in elementary school there was an anti-bullying poster that said something like "a bystander that does not help is just as guilty as the bully." And although both Fluke and Jin acted as bystanders, I hate Jin more because he is under the impression that he is kind and innocent, and he is branded this way to all the other characters. Even Non believed it. He takes no responsibility for what he did, or rather, what he didn't do. I don't even think he feels guilty about what happened to Non, he so easily forgot about it. He moved on so fast for someone he saw as a "friend" or, going even further, a "crush." The most evil thing is that the change in the way he acted between the past (smiley, warm, there) and the present (frowny, cold, closed-off) was not due to the fact that he absolutely ruined this kid--someone he considered a friend--'s chance at a future by leaking a video of said kid being groomed, and then proceed to nearly (if not actually) kill this kid with the help of his friends. No, it was do to the fact that his new crush said they were just friends. That's so incredibly pathetic. I'm obviosuly not saying that crushes can't literally crush your soul, but I think he had other issues he could've been worrying about.
6. Phee
Up until episode 9 I absolutely loved him. But then he dissapointed me a bit (which he is aloud to do, he's literally still a kid; for that reason I haven't kicked him off of my list of characters I like just yet). He has a big heart, which was used to cause a lot of good, but unfortunately became his flaw. It started to grow until it out-weighed his sense of justice. I think he still loves Non and wants to know what happened to him, but not as much as he wants to forget and move on with Jin. He came to the house partly to get answers but mostly to fix his relationship with Jin. He started to like the friend group, so he wants to live in ignorance, and that I do not agree with.
7. Tan
Him and Non had a pretty weak relationship, but despite that, he still loves him (he loves his whole family, actually, even if their parents don't deserve it) deeply; deeply enough for them to be the only thing he's living for. In my--who am I kidding, the fandom's opinion, he is currently doing nothing wrong, killing people or not. He lost literally everything, and frankly, it shows. But instead of giving up, he perserved, which is more than Phee can say.
8. Non
Jesus Christ, this poor kid. A family that forgot about him while he was there, and loved him after he was gone, and a boyfriend that loved him while he was there, then quickly forgot him after he was gone. He'd never had it easy in his life and still didn't have it easy (possibly) after his life. If you think what happened with Keng was Non cheating on Phee, fuck you. Fuck you. That was grooming, Non was being taken advantage of. Although I don't really think of Phee sleeping with Jin as cheating, it was more cheating than Non and Keng. Yes, he pulled the rest of the friend group into the illegal money thing, but that was not his fault, it was Por, Top, and Tee's fault. So much shit happened to him, and none of it was deserved; I really hope he's alive and killing them.
9. White
I don't dare to have opinions on him yet because I'm really expecting a deeper backstory. I don't think he's as naive as he's letting on.
If you want to add any of your opinions, feel free to!

Because recent events in my professional life have triggered old work-related/existential traumas, I'm going to tell you all the story about what happened around the time that I started the Facebook page cheerful nihilism and why I started it.
Roundabouts 2016 I was in grad school for my fourth degree, if you can imagine. I already had a BS and MS in psychology, and then I had gone back to grad school after a brief stint working in social work because I got so burnt out. I got a master's degree in health behavior education, and went on to attempt to get my PhD.
Getting a PhD had always been an ultimate life goal, for me. I'd always gotten high marks in school, and been involved in honors and gifted programs. When I was applying for my PhD program, I noticed that a lot of the professors that I spoke to about getting a reference had some reservations about the mentor that I was going to partner with. No one would be direct with me and tell me exactly what the problem was, they would just say that she was "difficult to work with." This was true, all the collaboration that she did was with people who worked at other institutions not at the University that I was attending in Florida.
But I had grown up with a mother who can be difficult to get along with, so I thought I could handle it. I was also involved in a really abusive relationship, so people talking down to me or trying to make me feel bad about who I was in order to make themselves feel better was just my normal at that time.
I was unable to afford the trip to present my research at the American public Health association National conference in Denver. Imagine my surprise when a mutual who had no immediate connection to my advisor posted a picture of my advisor standing in front of a poster board presenting my research, without my name on it. She was presenting my research as if it were hers. It felt like a gut punch, I had kind of heard that these things could happen but I had never thought that it could happen to me.
I screenshot the picture and sent it to the dean of the college. That was a mistake. This initiated an investigation that would ultimately end in me not being able to find a new mentor because during the investigation my advisor blackballed me, wrote a letter to the fellowship funding committee that was funding my phd, and claimed that I hadn't done any of the work that I was supposed to be doing to earn my fellowship. I found this ironic because she was just presenting my work... But everybody just believed her. They just assumed that she was telling the truth, that I was insane. Even after a human resources investigation did find that she behaved and unethical ways, because she had tenure, she was just prohibited from taking on any new mentees for a couple of years.
I was told that I could continue in the program if I could find a new mentor, but at this point I was untouchable. I ended up dropping out. The craziest thing is that the department actually sent me a letter demanding that I return the fellowship funding for the last half of 2016. This was on the grounds that, according to my former advisor, I hadn't been doing any work. I sent them a letter with a good faith repayment of $1. I explained to them in the letter that if they disagreed with my explanation they could take me to court. They stopped bothering me after that, but they probably sold it to a collections agency.
While all of this was going down and I was being completely broken by academia, I started a meme page on Facebook. Because I had been unmored from everything that had previously given my life structure or meaning, I became very nihilistic. But it wasn't the depressive nihilism that I often see characterized elsewhere, it felt almost liberating to me. I had grown up going to Catholic school for 9 years, my father was career military, the belief in a judeo-christian God was a strong foundation in my family of origin and all of them still regularly attend church.
The idea that life didn't have any ultimate meaning meant, to me, that I was actually free to just create my own. I'm not staunchly atheist, I'm generally agnostic. What I have personally experienced/witnessed throughout my life characterizes a deity with a morality that I cannot understand or connect to in any meaningful way.
Academia broke me. I'm glad I broke, tbh, I lost a lot of the ideas about myself that were programmed into me by society and my family of origin. That was a good thing. It rapidly sped up the process of de-culturing. Instead of scrambling to put myself back together in a semblance of what I assumed society wanted from me, I just let myself reassemble in whatever way I ended up reassembling.
I started the Facebook page on a lark. Parasocial relationships are dismissed by self-help gurus, but they were the only safe way I could connect to other people at that time. Strangers on the internet were more authentic and genuine with me than the people I saw face to face.
Oh there's tons of trash comments, too. But interestingly, if you're visible to a million people and get hundreds of cruel comments you start to realize that the only ones that hit the mark are the comments that echo the voice of the inner critic in your own head.

Dr Strange into the Multiverse of Madness
So I watched the movie and... I have some thoughts. Mostly negative ones since I haven't really been a huge fan of Marvel anyway but I still found some of the movies to be enjoyable.
For a start, the whole thing feels like a frat boy learned a new word and is repeating it mindlessly. Like, okay Marvel, we get it, you discovered the concept of the Multiverse. And now in the next decade so many movies will probably revolve around that concept that it's honestly gonna become a headache. But to be honest this is the least of this movie's problems.
Moving on from the fact that we won't be rid of the multiverse concept for at least a decade in any movie. To me it felt like Dr Strange: Into the Multiverse was way too heavily inspired by Inception. Like borderline plagiarism imo, especially when it comes to the visuals. I mean, it's my fault I expected an ounce of originality from a superhero movie but come on, with the technology that exist nowadays when it comes to visuals and special effects in movies, they could have at least made an effort to not rip off Inception - from the poster to the visuals it was pretty much 1:1. I understand drawing inspiration from a movie/director you admire but that should not stop you from making something original and good.
Tumblr media
And while we're on the topic of visuals and special effects and CGI etc, that movie barely had anything aside from those things. And again, I realise that it's a superhero movie and it is all about the special effects but would it fucking kill them to have *some* meaningful dialogue between the characters? Everything that was said, everything that happened was extremely underwhelming and predictable. Especially the last ~20 minutes of the movie where the dialogue was so flat and cheesy that it makes you wonder whether it's satirical and making fun of how predictable movies have become or if they're being for real with the banality of it. And to clarify, even if it is satirical, if that does not become clear to the audience that means the idea flopped.
Honestly, because of the excessive amount of special effects the movie felt way too fast paced to the point where I actually found myself thinking 'Am I supposed to care about any of these new characters?' Take America for example, she was introduced way too quickly, given no backstory and barely any purpose. Strange's character felt extremely two dimensional - like he had absolutely no personality whatsoever. In the first movie he did have a personality - he was cocky, snarky, sarcastic and here he was just your basic superhero. You could put anyone else in his place and the movie wouldn't change a bit. Sure, they tried to save that with a few snarky remarks but they felt forced and kind of... fell flat. And I am honestly not even going to criticise Cumberbatch because he is a brilliant actor. It's just that he wasn't really given much to work with.
And don't even get me started on the AU avengers x illuminati bullshit. Like what the fuck lmaooooooo. When you get to the illuminati plotline unironically is when you've not only hit rock bottom but gotten the shovel and started digging down more. That part of the movie genuinely made me wanna leave the theater and go home istg.
And now I really wanna get to the part that genuinely bothers me the most - the character of Wanda Maximoff/the Scarlet Witch. I will begin by saying that I don't feel like she was given enough screen time in previous MCU movies to justify the decision to make a separate show for her but go off I guess. Despite feeling like she doesn't have enough backstory either I watched the show. It isn't my favourite but I liked it, it was good. Wanda is someone who has lost everything and everyone she loves - her psychotic break is justified and actually understandable to the point that I was actively rooting for her both in the show and in the movie though for different reasons. In the show they managed to showcase her insanity in a chilling and captivating way and they had the opportunity to make her so much more terrifying in the movie. She had the potential to be an actually horrifying villain but, like all Marvel villains, they turned her into barely an inconvenience.
At the beginning we find out that Wanda wants to kill America, a child, for personal reasons. And if you don't know the personal reasons your like okay damn she's really gone crazy. They hype her up so much and make her out to be this terrifying villain but... at the end they still defeated her fairly easily? I am in general frustrated with Marvel because their female characters reaaaallly lack any depth. But I am genuinely angry cause it looked like they were adequately developing Wanda. They had started shaping her into this great villain and then... her motivation to kill a child was because she wanted to go to an AU and be a mother to her kids? The reason this frustrates me is because she would have been so much more scary if she just wanted to kill and be evil just because - she's lost everything and everyone she loves so she has nothing left to loose; might as well do whatever the fuck. But noooo the *female* villain's aspiration is to be a mom, to be with her kids. That's why she is gonna kill another kid. If the villain was a dude would they give such a lame excuse? Not to mention how she suddenly decided to do the right thing and stop being evil at the end. She saw one example of what devastation her actions would cause to her children in another universe and... she suddenly gives up what she had fought for the entire movie and just... collapsed the Scarlet Witch's temple on herself? That isn't very believable lmaoooo. And we have two options here a) they did actually kill her off in this pathetic fucking way or b) they did not kill her off and she will keep appearing but is gonna be good or at least morally grey or something? And I honestly don't know which one of these options is worse.
Like I feel like we were lead to believe that Wanda is too far gone in her insanity so for her to be presented as so evil and scary the entire movie for her to be like 'oops sorry lemme fix stuff real quick' in the last five minutes just felt so fabricated and unnatural? Like it broke the entire flow of the movie and there was no true character development. Which is genuinely sad because despite Wanda being the 'evil' one she was still the most likeable character in the movie. She was still pretty two dimensional but at least she had some shading. Until the end of the movie, that is. I dunno, it's just mind blowing to me how we got this pretty cool show showing Wanda spiraling and then an entire movie hyping her up as this strong villain/strongest magic possessing character and then have the ending of the movie be so underwhelming and anticlimactic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then as a post credit scene teasing the next Dr Strange movie... I was genuinely like seriously? You made this shitty ass movie and you have the audacity to advertise the next one?
Overall I went to watch Dr Strange into the multiverse without any expectations and I still walked out of the theater pretty fucking disappointed. Imo this movie feels like a filler episode in some tv show, and a bad filler at that. I genuinely feel like this it does not contribute anything to the MCU whatsoever. For all I care it could have never existed. But you know... I get it... Disney bought Marvel and you gotta do what you gotta do for the greedy mouse. Still, Marvel and all its actors are complete sell-outs imo. Ang again, it's unrealistic to have high expectations for a superhero movie but this one didn't even meet the bare minimum in my eyes. Overall, I'd say it was really not worth the money to go see Dr Strange into the multiverse in the theater. Now excuse me while i go bleach my brain with Inception.

I feel so bad bc I came across this at work, while on tumblr, but I didn't save the original post in anyway to credit the original poster, so my bad 😅😅😅
But anyways, this was a cute lil personality test, and I really enjoyed the lil journey to get my results, and I want to share.
🌞I definitely agree my personality type is light, I normally always choose to be positive, and even when I have my dark moments, I eventually always choose to go back into the light when ready.
🧚🏾‍♀️Looking at my innate personality, I really need to work on it, I agree with everything, but the only positive trait I see is "I'm so excited", bc I'm always looking forward to most things, but the rest of my traits I feel are my shortcomings. "I'm happy if you're happy" is part of the reason I struggle to be in the moment, if I feel like my vibe doesn't match the vibes of whomever I'm with, I can't truly enjoy myself bc I want their vibe to match, and I either feel like I have to fix what's wrong, or I have to bring my energy down to theirs, and I have to stop doing that.
"I'm a bit lonely", it's not that I can't be or do things a lone, it's just that I like sharing good moments with people, and making memories with them we can look back on fondly of, and this once again takes me out of the moment, bc I feel the need to share it with others.
"I'm not enough", I've been really feeling this lately, but I'm starting to realize I may have been getting lost in the sauce again, trying to prove my worth to others, which makes sense bc I felt like everything I was doing was a performance, and I now see it was, I thought I had improved my value to others, but that wasn't supposed to be the point, I was suppose to be improving my value for myself. I really want to feel enough for myself, so I can truly enjoy moments for myself.
"I'll do it!", I used to think this was a good trait, but honestly it's been doing a big disservice to me, most ppl aren't as consider it or as generous as I would like to imagine them being, and as much as I like helping and gifting, I really need to focus more of that energy on myself.
All of this was really good insight for myself, and I'm happy I got positive results for the most part, I will be definitely working on my lesser traits, although I don't feel bad I got them, I'm happy to be made aware of them so I can improve myself for myself, and that's what I choose to take away from it..😊🧘🏾‍♀️✌🏾💖

Precolonial HWS SEA Rant Post, feel free to ignore
If you're still reading, then you're probably looking for evidence or some juicy tidbits to throw back at me or to try and find dirt to cancel me, like typical Tumblr/Twitter. Go ahead, I don't really care.
First off, let me just say that If you like Precolonial South-East Asia AUs, feel free to keep enjoying them. I will respectfully support your passions from afar. This post is just to explain why I don't like it, especially the way they keep insisting/portraying PH in it.
Still here? Then let me begin.
Since the recent confirmation that the ASEAN Six Majors (Can't really say ASEAN 10 atm since it's still missing some people) Were completed and the Ma-Phil-Indo Trio was included, there has been a large surge in 'Precolonial' fanarts and portrayals of South East Asians, those three especially.
Even long, long before, circa 2010's ish, a rather well-known fan universe known as 'Maaf' dealt with their story and how their Author thought their intertwined histories went. Written by (my best guesstimate) an Indonesian writer who wants to explore the old, SEA bond.
When I first stumbled across Maaf (I was in Highschool at the time, around age 16-ish), I took a casual interest in it and tried to read it through. But, I will wholeheartedly admit that at the time, Pre-Colonial cultures of South-East Asia in general, let alone Philippine, did not really interest me that much. The focus (I think) was mostly on Indonesia, a country I didn't really know back then, and the liberal use of 'ancient' names and artwork just made it feel like an entirely Original Work (that needed a degree in History to really appreciate) and not something from Hetalia. I also completely disagreed with what I could gather was the story's portrayal of PH but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Do I hate 'Maaf'? No, I don't hate it. Do I wish I never came across it or that it didn't exist? Of course not. Just because I didn't enjoy it or appreciate it that well doesn't mean I wish any ill toward it, its fans, or its creator.
Fast forward to April 2021, the long awaited inclusion of South East Asia to the canon Hetalia verse. I was happy, the other fans were happy, all was good.
Then started the questionable fanarts, fan theories and fan pairings.
Especially the expansion of Precolonial! PH.
Let's go back to Maaf for one moment. From what I understood of Maaf, PH there was a character who once was like all the other South East Asian cultures, trading with them, all around being a nice family.
But all that changed when the Spaniards attacked, so cry the precolonial buffs. They destroyed everything, ransacked and marginalized the tribes, erased everything that PH was!
Did that happen? ABSOLUTELY. The Spaniards had this vision in mind that they must spread Christianity to all of the 'savage, unchristian heathens' of their realm. :V /s
But back up a second, back to PH's portrayal in Maaf. The way she (yeah, she) was portrayed there was that she was slowly losing her memories of being a 'true' South East Asian and grew more and more westernized in the process, like some sort of Culture-specific Alzheimer's or something.
Firstly, that is seriously depressing, and secondly, I just really don't see that happening.
Here's why.
Point 1: Even before Colonial Masters, Filipinos as a people cannot agree on anything.
I'll just begin this segment with a Philippine proverb that outlines what Filipinos call 'Crab Mentality' or 'Crab Bucket Mentality'.
"You don't need a lid for a container when you're keeping multiple crabs. If you keep at least two crabs together, they will just pull each other down instead of helping each other up."
I don't know how it goes with Indonesian or Malaysian history class, but what I know of my homeland, both pre- and post-colonial history, we were never really 'united' or 'together' in the sense that Indonesia and Malaysia were (from what I assume).
Let me pull up a somewhat related question on r/AskHistorians.
Tumblr media
The reason I brought this up as it shows the reasons why, in my opinion, a single entity that is 'Precolonial Philippines-tan' is an impossibility.
The answers are long and would extend this already long post to stupid proportions, so I'll just quote relevant sentences. The link is here for those that wanna deep-dive into the answer.
"All this to say that there wasn't a name used for the entire Philippine islands before the Philippines that people now would agree to. An interesting comparison would be the Holy Roman Empire, which might also be characterized as disparate politico-geographic groups of relatively small size that had a history of relations between each other, but one thing they had that the Philippines did not was a common language, or at least a family of mostly mutually intelligible languages, so that the name Deutschland or Germany isn't terribly offensive to anyone. If you called the Philippines the 'Lupang-Tagalog' or even 'Lupang-Tao' the other ethnic groups would protest."
For those in need of translation, 'Lupang Tagalog' means 'Land of the Tagalogs' and 'Lupang Tao' means 'Land of People', specifically. The first one is already exclusive and offensive, as the Tagalog peoples are but one of many ethnicities here.
And for the 'Lupang Tagalog' suggestion specifically, it's even more offensive as they are the majority ethnicity (not by much, just around 28%) From this chart from Geography Now! It would basically be alienating everyone else in the 72% remainder that isn't 'Tagalog'.
Tumblr media
And even 'Lupang Tao', the most generic name in a local language you can think of, would be met with contempt because the name itself is in the Tagalog language.
Just travelling between two individual island groups today would sometimes require a translator because the words can change very rapidly and very drastically. Here's a sample of some differences coming from a friend living in Visayas (in Red) vs. the words I know living in Luzon (In blue).
Ate vs. Manang = Older Sister
Ibon vs. Pispis = Bird
Tumawa vs. Kadlaw = To laugh
Takot vs. Hadlok = Fear
Kain vs. Kaon = To eat
Ngayon vs. Subong = Now, at this point in time
Iyak vs. Hibi/Gibi = to cry
Talampakan vs. Tiil = Foot (in Tagalog, the word retains its 'body part AND unit of measurement' meaning)
Tulog vs. Tuyo = to sleep (Tuyo in Tagalog is either a dried salted fish or 'to dry')
The kicker is that just like Tagalog is just one of many languages here, so too is the language my friend speaks. Ask an entirely new person, like someone from Mindanao, they'll probably have an entirely new set of words.
It's not just Luzon vs. Visayas vs. Mindanao, either. Here's a map listing some of the ethnic groups here.
Tumblr media
Even the way they're written differs from location to location.
Tumblr media
While we're on the subject of Island divisions, a casual skim across Twitter and Tumblr has shown that their Precolonial PH has been one of the following ancient civilizations: Tondo, Butuan, Sugbu, Namayan. There may have been others but that was what I have found.
Notice how even today, the posters of Precolonial PH can't seem to agree on what he's supposed to be? With Indonesia it's either Majapahit or Srivijaya and Malaysia it's usually Malacca iirc.
What is the big deal? Well, let's go back to the Ask Historians post. "Why didn't the Philippines ever change its name to remove the colonial mark that being named after a Spanish King has?" The answer: "If you suggested something dating to precolonial times, the other ethnic groups would protest."
Since we're on a roll with maps, let me bring this up.
Tumblr media
As you can see, the precolonial PH posts have a reason to not be able to agree on one thing, as there is a LOT of options. Do you also see how THAT list is also split up?
It's split up into those aligned with China (Sinified), aligned with India (Indianized), aligned with the Middle East (Islamicized), and no alignment (Animist). Now, let's go back to the main suggestions for which Kingdom/Polity/Civilization/whatever Modern Philippines used to be.
If the Filipino peoples' couldn't agree on something as simple as WHAT TO CALL THE LAND THEY'RE LIVING ON, what more a living, breathing, walking, talking entity that is supposed to be a beacon of all of their 'unified' culture? ESPECIALLY if that entity used to be a currently existing Kingdom/Polity/Rajahnate/Sultanate/whatever.
Tondo? "Of course, always the damn Tagalogs. Tagalog this, Tagalog that. First the capital city, then the language,* THE REST OF US EXIST, YOU KNOW! What about us in Visayas? Mindanao?"
*The national language known as 'Filipino' is just standardized Tagalog*
Butuan? "Wait, you want Butuan to represent us? They're they only Indian-aligned city in the Islam-majority Mindanao! They're not even that many of them! I'm not gonna change my religion!"
Sugbu, the other name for the Rajahnate of Cebu on the map? Lemme bring back my Visayan friend again. According to her, she hails from the Hiligaynon part of Visayas.
"Sure :v and the other islands are what?
Chopped liver?
Not to mention the language and writing barrier helloooo"
And Namayan? Well. I'll let this pic speak for itself.
Tumblr media
To summarize, no matter who you pick as Modern PH's previous identity, it will not end well nor be accepted by the other Kingdoms at the time.
"So where does that leave Modern PH, he had to have been ONE of them, right?"
Well, not really. He doesn't HAVE to be one of the Ancient Kingdoms that lasted till the modern day. I mean, predecessor representatives exist in Hetalia canon, after all. Like Modern Greece is a different character from Ancient Greece, Ancient Egypt and Modern Egypt, heck even England and his brothers have a canon mother that was the rep before them.
Or you could even use the same logic that Germany does, in that each specific region has/had its own representative and that Modern!PH is just the 'mediator' between them (cause gawd does PH need one). There could be a Tondo, a Namayan, a Butuan, and a Sugbu, all arguing and this Proto-PH is just trying to make headway in making them all satisfied.
But, even after all this, there is another reason why I personally don't subscribe to the 'Precolonial PH' idea, and by tangential extension, the Indo x Phil pairing.
Point 2: Even without intending to, Precolonial Indo x Phil just comes off as patronizing
This second point is just ENTIRELY personal preference and barely has any facts to back it up.
Again, if you like the pairing and disagree with me, You do you. I will respectfully support you and your passions from a distance.
But for me, Indo being Phil's seme/bae/boyfriend and consistently bringing up precolonial times just comes off as patronizing.
Just one more time, I'd like to point out that I am NOT bashing Indonesia, its people or the subscribers of Indo x Phil. This is just how the pairing feels to ME specifically.
The way I see it, Indo x Phil as a pairing, especially if it extends back into precolonial times, reads the same way as a long-since married couple where the husband/wife CONSTANTLY brings up that ONE outing you had together, or that ONE prom night where you kissed while dancing, even it happened like 30 some-odd years ago and so much more happened since then.
Even in a platonic sense, It reads like two besties where one ALWAYS mentions stuff like 'Yeah but you looked so much cooler back in High School' or 'Back in Grade School you would've known that', or 'Remember back in Pre-school we did X? How could you forget that?'
How does one respond to the notion that no matter what you do now, it will never compare to a past you've already forgotten or barely remember? That the best version of 'you' is already long gone?
"That's because the westerners made you forget your culture! You gotta take it back!"
While it is true, yes, as a collective we barely remember the Kingdom that commissioned the Laguna Copperplate, or created the Banaue Rice Terraces, or created the millennia old bonds that we still share with Indonesia and Malaysia.
But to keep pushing the precolonial identity would be to neglect and cast aside the one REAL binding belief and culture that spans the entirety of these islands we call the Philippines.
We take on all the bad stuff that happens to us, conquer it, and make it our own. Be it natural disasters, foreign powers, or negative stereotypical mentalities.
Tumblr media
Yes, we've forgotten the ancient kingdoms of old and are just now digging through the closet for those remnants of the past. Yes, the colonizers imposed that on us, and made us forget. But in the process we've also taken everything that they left behind, everything that they threw at us, and created something that can only come from us.
The lanterns that the Spaniards used to light the way to the morning masses they made us attend became our globally known symbol of Christmas. The junked vehicles that the Americans left behind in World War 2 are now rolling works of art that announce themselves loud and proud on the streets (for better or for worse). The iced dessert recipe that the Japanese forced us to learn while they were occupying the country is now so distinct and famous it is synonymous with us, and is so delicious even Italy has taken notice.
Tumblr media
Even after all this? Even after all the 425-ish years total we have been under a foreign power, with all the progress we've made as a country, a people, and a nation, you would still imply our fragmented, jigsaw puzzle state of being in the past was better just because it was pure 'South East Asian' like everyone else?
Tumblr media
We might not be as well put-together as Indonesia or Malaysia, but we made this melting pot of angry, leg-pulling, dogpiling, Native, Mestizo, Chinoy, and Fil-Am crabs OURS, damnit!
It's now 4:30 AM and I have work in 5 or so hours. I'll be going to sleep now.

A Witch's Luck | Chapter 12
Tumblr media
Y/N woke up then, opening her eyes slowly to see where she was. "Jasper?" She croaked, clearing her throat, "Jazz?"
But another voice answered, "Not Jasper, but I like that hope."
Y/N looked at the redhead stalking over to her. She almost growled, trying to activate her magic. But she couldn't.
"What did you do to me?" She asked angrily.
Victoria bent down to her level, telling her, "I kidnapped you and pumped you full of vampire venom. You won't be casting spell for a while."
How did she know about vampire venom to witches? She wasn't supposed to know that. Vampire venom depleted a witch of their magic, basically made them human.
Where did she learn that?
"Now you're going to keep you little promise, I guess?"
She told her, "Oh, I'm going to do better. You see, now you have a little kit and a familiar. On top of that, you got married. Now it will hurt so much more when I kill them in front of you."
Y/N panicked then, reaching desperately for her magic but finding nothing to grasp. Victoria spoke, "Oh, but don't worry. I'm going to torture you first, nice and slow and painful. I'm saving you for last."
Victoria took her hand and clawed at her arm, raking it down as blood spilled. Any other vampire would have flipped because of the spell of her blood, but Victoria was familiar with it and could keep her control.
Y/N cried out in pain, the terrible pain in her arm was agonizing. The wounds went from her shoulder to her wrist and it hurt and bled badly.
Tears came to her eyes as she cried out. She just wanted to be home with her husband and daughter.
"You already started without me?" A voice called.
Victoria spoke, "Yes, darling. This one's mine."
The origin of the voice stepped into the room, giving a smirk just as malicious as Victoria's. He caught a whiff of the blood and inhaled sharply through his teeth.
Y/N recognized him from the posters hanging all over Forks. She asked, ignoring the pain as much as she could, "You're Riley Biers."
He asked, "How do you know who I am?"
"You're parents...have been looking all over for you," she winced at her arm and continued, "They're worried sick. You need to come home."
He shook his head, "I am home." He walked over to Victoria, putting an arm around her shoulders. She stiffened slightly, clearly uncomfortable with it.
Y/N blinked and shook her head, "No...she already had a mate..."
Riley looked at Victoria, who shook her head, "No. She's lying. She's from their coven. I told you about their mind games."
"There are no mind games. I was with her for years. The scars already here are from her and her mate. I'm proof," Y/N continued.
Riley looked at her again, unsure, "Victoria?"
"She's lying. You can't trust any of them. Remember what I told you," Victoria said.
Riley took a moment to decide before ultimately choosing Victoria and walking away. She turned back to Y/N, "You thought that would work? I have him wrapped around my finger."
Y/N took in a breath, "And I have a little bit of magic left." She used as much of it as she could, using it to knock her unconscious.
She stood and ran out of the room, leading her outside. She stopped short at the door, fear raiding her body.
There was a heard of newborn vampires outside of that door, all stopping and turning at the smell of blood. They smiled slowly, a new meal to be devoured.
But there was one person in the crowd. A girl. She had a strange feel to her, the light around her was purer than everyone else, despite her eyes being the bright red they were.
Riley tore Y/N from her thoughts, announcing, "You didn't think we'd let you escape, did you? Come one step closer and my newborns will handle you."
She looked out and debated something. There was still a chance to get away from Victoria, but the only way to do that is to wait out her time, wait for her magic to return to her. She needed to get back to her family.
Y/N sighed and slowly backed into the small shed-like building, closing the door. Someone grabbed her from behind, their arms wrapping around her neck as they jerked it to the side.
Victoria bit into her neck, forcing the venom into her system to deplete whatever magic had remained. It would take a while for it to come back.
Y/N fell, her head getting dizzy as she went unconscious.
~
Jasper looked through Y/N's grimoire, looking for anything he could to find a way to bring her back.
"Caw!"
Jasper looked up when he heard the caw and the flapping wings of Ronin. He flew in through the open window. Jasper pet his feathers as he took the note from his beak, handing him a treat Y/N kept in her drawers for the birds who flew in.
Jasper,
I'm sorry, dear, but I don't know of any spell that could track her that still works. The tracking spells are so old and rarely used that no one can seem to get it right anymore. You could try and get Freya to use old familiar magic to find her, but it will take a lot of power.
I'm sorry I couldn't be more of help, I really am. I will do my best to help you from here. If I find anything, you'll be the first to now.
Give little Althea a hug for me, and good luck.
Romina Feathers, New Orleans Coven Leader
Jasper sighed and put the letter in another drawer. He told the bird gently, "Tell her I said thank you for me, Ronin."
Ronin nodded, "I will. Goodbye, Jasper."
He turned and flew away, headed back to his witch. Jasper scratched his head in thought. He needed to find some way to get to her.
~
Y/N gasped for breath as she looked up at Victoria. She smiled at took a long whiff of the blood that drove her near intoxication.
Riley walked into the room, a little smirk shot at Y/N covered in her own blood. Victoria told him, "Go to the girl's house. Bring something back with her scent on it."
Riley nodded, "Course." He put a hand on her cheek, pulling her in for a long and passionate kiss.
Y/N looked away, unwilling to see that. When they separated, Victoria glanced at her. She told Riley, "If you want, I'd allow you a little blow."
Riley seemed amused and interested in the offer. He kneeled in front of Y/N, who looked back at him as best she could with her vision fading in and out. He saw one of the open wounds on her arm and pressed wrapped his hand around it, squeezing tightly.
Y/N winced and tried not to make a sound but she could help the whimper that escaped her. He stood again, sucking his finger into his mouth as he sucked off the blood. He sighed, "Tasty."
He joined Victoria's side again. She walked over to her and took one of her arms into her hands. She bent the arm slowly and Y/N's breath sped again. When she broke it, it gave a sickening crushing sound, Y/N cried out at her now shattered bone.
The pain was too much too handle as she blacked out again, silent tears rushing down her face.
Victoria sighed, "She claims to be a powerful witch, but she doesn't seem to show that much." She gripped her face in a hand and moved it around so Victoria could get a better look.
She let go and sent Riley off to do his job. She was going to propose her offer when Y/N woke again. She just wanted to get something in before, she was letting out some steam.
~
Jasper had been sent out to track the scent left behind from Riley's visit. He was the best tracker out of all of them so it was wise to send him.
They also just wantdd him to do something else, rather than sitting in the room with his head buried or tending to Althea and ignoring everyone else around him.
Althea was the only thing keeping him sane.
While they waited for Bella to return, they talked. Alice was stressed, doing everything she could to watch over Y/N and Bella. Edward paced as he spoke with Carlisle, Esme, and Rosalie.
Levi was holding Althea as he stood in the room. Celene was taking care of the kits with Freya. Mariah was talking with Eileen back at the Residence, looking through any of the grimoires they had in the large house for anything they could find. Charlie was currently with Seth, eating with them for dinner.
"Who was it? Someone we know?" Alice asked.
Edward shook his head, "Just a stranger. I didn't recognize his scent."
"A nomad passing through?" Esme questioned.
Rosalie spoke up, "A passer-by wouldn't have left Bella's father alive."
Bella chilled at the thought. Esme wrapped an arm around her just as the door burst open. Jasper entered the room, "His scent disappeared about five miles south of Bella's house."
"Someone's orchestrating this," Edward spoke as Jasper made his way to Althea. Levi handed the child over and she leaned her head on Jasper's shoulder.
"Victoria?" Bella suggested.
"I would've seen her deciding," Alice said, looking again in her mind and wincing at the scene she wasn't intent on showing Jasper.
"It has to be the Volturi," Edward said.
"I don't think it's the Volturi, either. I've been watching Aro's decisions, too."
"So we keep looking," Emmett spoke.
Carlisle added, "We also take shifts guarding Bella at her house."
Rosalie asked, "Another protection detail?"
Esme spoke, "Rosalie."
No, she's right," Bella said, "You can't protect me, watch my dad, search for the intruder and for Victoria and for Y/N, and protect Althea. All while keep yourselves fed."
It was clear they hadn't been feeding. All the eyes around the room, save for the Levi, Althea, and Bella, were dark with hunger. Jasper's were the darkest of all of them, however, which only concerned them more.
Althea rubbed her eyes, getting sleepy from being up so long. Jasper kissed her forehead, "I'm taking her to bed."
He began leaving the room, headed down the hall to put her to bed. All eyes switched to him as he walked out of the room and he only ignored it.
They began talking again when he was down the hall and he sighed. He set Althea down to sleep, kissing her forehead one more time. She spoke in her quiet voice, "Are we gonna find Mommy yet?"
Jasper was glad he couldn't cry at that moment, or he would have started to. He told her gently, sadly, "We're still looking for her. She'll be back soon, I promise. And we don't break promises, do we, little miss?"
She shook her head and he nodded, "That's right." He sat there for a little while longer, his sorrow still lingering around him.
She frowned at him, saddened by all of those emotions swirling around him. She sat up again, putting her hands on his cheeks. He smiled at her a little.
Jasper felt some of his sorrow slip away from him, leaving his system a little lighter than before. He stared in awe and confusion.
Her eyes seemed to shimmer before she removed her hands from his face. He couldn't quite place where the sadness he had felt in his system had gone. It hadn't been replaced with something else, he felt the same, just without a bit of that sorrow from before. It wasn't lingering in the air nor did he sense it from anywhere else in the house.
He looked back at Althea and asked, "What happened?"
She sniffed, "I didn't want you to be sad, so I took it away and now you feew better."
Jasper inquired carefully, he was touched by the gesture, but still confused, "Where did you put the sadness?"
She shrugged, "I gave it to somebody ewse."
"Who?"
"The boy from the pitures. He made me feew weird, I don't wike him," Althea said, sticking her fingers in her mouth.
Jasper sighed, this time in surprise. It seemed his daughter had a gift just like he did.
But Y/N didn't get to see it.
Some of that sorrow returned to Jasper. Althea saw it and whined, trying to reach over to get rid of it again.
Jasper pulled a little out of her reach, "No, I think that's enough. It's time for you to go to bed."
He kissed her cheek and she rolled over and laid down. He stayed with her until she fell asleep, leaving quietly when she had.

A lil group portrait of the time au adventuring gang!! Them <333
Basically tol fucked up as a kid and is now on the run from the law, but realized that since his life was so crazy he could live off of telling stories of his wacky adventures. When he met Jay he wanted him to come with him, and when he found out jay couldn't come cus he was virtually a demon/god/magic magnet he decided he NEEDED to bring him to capitalize on how it'd make more cool stories. And yeah it worked so since then he's been collecting wackos to aaa go crazy aaaa go stupid (and also bcus safety I numbers or whateva, pop and pip are also criminals and pastel and jay are crimes against god <3) more about each individual under the cut!
Doin them from left to right :)
Pastel: died when she was messing around with some friends and got stuck under a big rock and left to starve. But because of a fluke in the underworld her God decided to resurrect her, a right usually only belonging to saints. Because of this she's now poorly pretending that she totally did something to deserve being revived (she tells a different story every time someone asks, she thinks it's funny) to avoid being persecuted for suspected witchcraft. She met Jay when they were both drunk and they had fun fucking around in the city, and she spilled the beans to him that she was revived for no reason. She regretted it, but jay didn't kill her because even though he's religious he knew what it felt like to be magically cursed and have everyone be pissed at u for it. Also she's really funny with jay so tol begged her to come with them to add more Comedy(tm) to his memoirs
Pop: a time traveller and angel who is trying to hide both of those facts but only really succeeding at hiding the time travel thing. When they were a kid they traveled to this time with his friends Lustre and Cherrybomb, but when they were attacked by the vicious royal guard they weren't able to escape without leaving Lustre behind. Cherrybomb super repressed that memory, and while pop recovered from some minor injuries they vowed to never time travel again. Yeah they only kept that up until they were like 15, but they still couldn't bring themself to go back to when they left Lustre. But now they're 26 (well technically they're like 33 but in their time their supposed to be 26) living with their boyfriend cherrybomb and have years of time travel experience under their belt, and they're ready to go back. Except they can't go back because they created a travel block for themself by accident because of how upsetting the event was, so instead they traveled as close as they could, about 10 years in the future of the time. Now they search for any form of closure, all they need to know is what happened to their friend, and they will do whatever it takes to find this out. But angels aren't super welcome in the past, especially not with uncut wings, so it's not exactly easy for them to navigate this time period. But after a while of their search they met two lovely children (well young adults), a demon and a "cursed" (nowadays they call em spiritually gifted) and felt so bad for how much the world seemed to be against them they decided they could travel with them, just for a bit, to protect them. They tried not to get attached. They failed. They're in it for the long run now aren't they TwT also as they explore this time and learn more about the gods, they start to realize that they might... be the God of longevity???? Or at least an older version of them became them? Time travel is fucked man
Btw Lustre plays a big role in this plot, her hyper futuristic knowledge, 'blessed' white eyes, and strange God gifted clothing would all lead to him rising to a much different role than fugitive rather quickly, but they're not who this post is about ;) also I'm gonna go bottom to top for the 3 in the middle let's go
Lune: just a little guy :) lune is a young rancher/gardener who worships the God of the wood, who kind of goes missing sometimes and is lowkey the least loyal God but shhhh he loves them. Lune and tol were childhood friends (along with their pal cleo) but on one of their little excursions tol took something very important to a very powerful king, and refused to give it back. As retribution the king destroyed their entire town, and cleo put all the blame on tol, tol and lune both knew lune had to take the side against tol in order to not have the town turn on him. So yeah he moved with the town to bring up a brand new farm, long awaiting the day when tol would come home and say that things were OK and they could settle back in town together, hopefully with cleo too. That didn't happen, but tol did come back and peer pressure lune into part time adventuring with him! So yeah generally lune just runs his lil farm and prays, but when tol comes to pick him up he gets a chance to go be free to act batshit crazy, just like when he was a kid 🥰
Pipes: DEmon! One time lune and tol had a little squabble so lune was like 'im gonna get a new best friend and ur gonna regret this' and tol was like 'yeah right, u live with a bunch of criminals right now no one's gonna wanna be ur bestie dumbass' so lune just walked into a cave at night and dragged out this little nonverbal demon because demons who live alone in caves don't have high standards for friends. Even tho it was just a ploy to make tol jealous lune went super hard on it and now pipes is actually friends with the gang lmaoo
Tol: like I said with lunes, stole something important from a king as a kid, monarch got pissed, blew up the town, town got pissed at tol for it, and since then he's been on the run because he's too stubborn to give back the damn thing (they could have just attacked HIM for it, but since la queen decided to fuck with his town, his family, tol thinks he doesn't deserve to have it back.) He had to run from town to town and got into a lot of danger in his attempts at finding places to hide, but he lacks fear and tended to fight stuff off. As a kid he found that he could get enough pity to be welcomed into towns if he told people he had to fight a monster to get there, so he told stories at every town and camp he went to of his hardships. But as he got older, those he stayed with beckoned him to keep talking, and more and more people said they had heard of his adventures. And that's when when it clicked, his shining ticket to true freedom wasn't a place, it was his stories. They gave him food, shelter, fun, memories, a life. So he made it his mission to never settle down, to make his life as crazy as possible and to talk about it as much as possible, and if he ever ran out of energy to adventure, he'd spend the rest of his dying days writing and writing his entire life story. He thought this was a life he'd live alone, but one day he sought refuge in jays little lonely house because he thought it was abonded, luckily though Jay had just been praying for a second chance at life and decided that considering the timing, tol must be that second chance. So yeah jay patched him up, found out on his monthly supply route he was harboring someone very wanted, and took care of tol even harder because he didn't know or care why he was wanted, he just knew that anyone who had a drawing of them as a child on a wanted poster definitely didn't deserve it. So yeah they're besties now.
AAA I wrote out a really long description for jay but tumblr glitched and I lost it :'O ble here's a shorter rewrite cus I'm not writing out that whole thing again >:P
Jay: brought up in a church village,, he was born with the curse, which allows him to tap into magical properties very easily, and be very easily controlled, manipulated, and possessed by them. This allowed him to be very connected with his god (the god of longevity) but also meant he was often treated as a security risk and a monster by the adults of his town since he could let in evil spirits so easily. He spent most of his time praying and he became obsessed with acting on compulsions (repeated prayer, overscrubbing, scratching himself, touching religious things until he felt like he touched them "right") because he believed they were messages from God and would prevent him from becoming evil (look he was a teenager and everyone told him he was a monster his whole life leave him be.) He gets possessed twice, mage as a rep of the town is like "either have ur cursed removed or leave town forever" (uncursing is only hypothetically possible, it's hella dangerous) and he's scared itd sever his connection to his god so he leaves and he's upset bcus his entire life plan was built around his church, so now he's livin alone on a hill and leaving like once a month, he stays up there and sews and prays mostly, he sort of works on himself and becomes vaguely mentally stable, so he prays for a second chance at life since he lost his original path and needs a sign where to go, and then boom tol shows up and the rest is history. Now he has his own little family and things are going great :) other than the still getting possessed like once a week but shhhh
Pip: in between the entrance to hell and the religious central of the continent is a little town that sides with neither. They mostly fuck around and find out, and in this town lives a monster researcher and her less formal wife, pip! SONIC THE REDESIGN: A QUICK OVERVIEW
Tumblr media
I drew this to celebrate the release of the movie. However, this picture was taken seconds before disaster. I butchered this and I'm too ashamed to post it. I was supposed to post this on Valentine's Day, but...nerp. This is why I want to try digital art...😒 oh well. (If any of you guys wanna color this, be my guest!)
Anyways, let's just take a second to look back at the progress it took to get the film that went from the laughing stock, butt of the joke, ugly duckling, whipping boy disaster to the record breaking, expectation subverting, underestimated, successful box office hit, contributing to lifting the curse of bad video game movie adaptations.
It all started from the very first poster...
Tumblr media
It was trending the same day for all the wrong reasons. You would think that Paramount would have listened the first time right? Haha. WRONG!
Paramount was reluctant and thought that we were going to like it when we see his reveal. I tried to keep my cool and not overeact. I didn't want to assume the worst. But then... the trailer arrived, debuting the Gangster's Paradise gremlin in May of 2019. *shudders*
Tumblr media
I'm just going to post one picture because I don't want to ruin your TL. Your welcome.
To be honest, I wasn't too mad at the trailer. In fact, I stood by this Sonic. But at the same time I was truly embarassed to be a Sonic fan. My boy was getting flamed from left to right. He was SCARY. He was UGLY. He was TRENDING. He was trending all day and all night. But I didn't care. I still defended it. Not because I was just "blindly supporting it" to quote someone who tried that shit. But because the Sonic franchise has entertained me for years as both a video game and tv show and, good or bad, I felt like I had to stand by him. Hell, I still like Sonic Boom! (But that's another post for another day.) While I had to be strong, I couldn't help but feel extremely bad for every single person involved in the film. However, the anger from the Sonic fans was justified. It was coming from a place of passion. We just wanted to see Sonic succeed for once. We were fed up with excuses and settling for mediocrity. We didn't want Sonic to look like a real-ish anthropomorphic hedgehog. We wanted Sonic to look like Sonic. Period! His design was essential for this movie! It makes him one the most recongnizable characters in gaming. And Paramount dropped the ball on that. They knew better.
Even Sega themselves had to step in BOTH TIMES and let Paramount know what's up. I'm sure the artists and creative directors who worked on the movie tried to warn the corporate big heads at Paramount that people were going HATE that design but was either ignored or didn't speak up in fear of losing their jobs. And, yes, some studios are that petty.
And, thanks to the strong and passionate response from the fans, Paramount reacted and delayed the film to make the necessary changes required to redesign and render Sonic. In fact, props to all the artists involved for working hard and redesigning Sonic! They deserve everything good in life! Because it goes beyond the film. There's marketing, toys, merchandise, and tons of promotions that were probably scrapped with the old design on it. LOL can you imagine?!
After months of waiting and speculating and putting up with random Youtubers reanimating the Sonic trailer themselves and posting what they thought was better than the trailer, a miracle happened. Something beautiful graced the internet and our TV screens. On November of 2019, the original month the movie was supposed to air, we were introduced to the new and improved Sonic. The Sonic we deserved. The Sonic that should have been here since day one. It was official:
Tumblr media
He
Tumblr media
was
Tumblr media
BABY!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean look at him! We got the company to listen to us! Yeah, it took worldwide humiliation, but they sure did capitalize on it! The fandom rejoiced! We were proud! I for one felt especially relieved and somewhat entitled since I never turned my back on the movie altogether due to the original design. (Shoutout to everyone else who held it down since day one. Y'all are the real MVP's!)
It was such a long and tedious journey for most of us Sonic fans, but to see the movie at it's full glory and getting the recongnition and praises it deserved was truly worth it.

Okay so I'd like to share what I commented on this video. I watched it and it sent me into a whole rant about the motives and characterization of Draco. I recommend watching before reading this:
@quinncurio is the original poster
Here's the copy paste of my comment/ Essay. I was slight heated when I wrote this, but my points still stand.
"OH BOY. HI, HELLO I VERY MUCH DISAGREE. ALSO: DISCLAIMER: DONT TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY, YOU WILL FIND I HAVE A VERY LOGICAL EXPLANATION, FOR WHY THIS ANALYSIS DOESN'T WORK.
Calling a Draco a cowardly bigoted bully, and a carbon copy of Dudley is the most SHALLOW and LOW EFFORT CONCLUSION YOU COULD POSSIBLY DRAW. IT IS LOW HANGING FRUIT. I'm going to have to break this into sections to truly explain why your conclusion is soooo incredibly shallow. You may have done your research, but I feel like you learned nothing more about Draco then if you'd never seen more then 5 min. So I'm going to start the same way you have and break this down into the same points.
PART 1 : AN ANALYSIS OF HARRY MEETING DRACO
I'm not going to go into detail of Harry's impression or ideas of Draco, because this analysis is about Draco, Not Harry. Also remember the books were written from Harry's POV, not a neutral party. I'm not obliged to Harry's opinions, just facts. Which brings up the first true conclusion about Draco's character. *Draco Malfoy feels a strong need to impress others, to gain their affection.* He does this through incisive bragging, trying to make people believe he knows best, and tearing down the reputation of others, so the object of his desires sees Draco and the most obvious choice. Where we differ is:
You believe Draco does this, because he thinks, he's better then others.
I believe,(which circumstantially has more evidence), Draco does this because he wants the affection, and acceptance of others
Whether you believe he acts out this way bc of how he is raised, his privilege, or something else, it doesn't change the fact that Draco was truly trying to make a friend, perhaps the only way he knew how.
In noble wizarding society, traditions, and your family does mean a lot. Not even looking at it from a pureblood view, imagine having a family that old and known. They really are a type of nobility, with family Lords even having political seats in the Wizengamote just because of their family name. The Longbottoms and Weaselys hold this same political influence, and it's not tied to Slytherins, pureblood ideals or anything like that. Draco is an only child, and an heir to his family line, so he is going to be treated importantly bc of that. He is raised with that responsibility, and in social situations not only represents himself, but the whole heritage of his family. Draco hasn't had the ability to act like a normal petulant child (part of the reason he tends to act out at Hogwarts.*ie. away from home*). He's been taught to act proper, make good allies, and impress others for the good of his reputation. I'd say most noble wizarding children probably get the same training and lectures, and have their own customs and culture of educate. What may come for Draco as polite, and diplomatic, may sound rude or arrogant to Harry. This is because Draco was not aware how different Harry's upbringing was from his own, and has never dealt with not having enough. Perhaps if Draco knew how different and ignorant Harry was he would have felt pity, or a sense of wrongness at Harry's injustice. Though Draco is just an 11yr old boy, who's only ever had a loving family, and almost anything he wanted. It is difficult for him to relate to the lack of others. As all wizarding children, he probably grew up with the story of the boy who lived and may have even been excited when his father said he wanted them to become friends. He truely was excited to meet Harry and genuinely wanted to be friends. While yes Lucius definitely wanted Draco to befriend Harry to help lighten their family reputation, I also think that Draco, being a child, would more likely be more excited of making a famous friend. Maybe he even had some hope seeing he'd met Harry before when he saw him on the train.
Part 2 : THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DRACO AND DUDLEY
Draco's sense of superiority comes from his traditions and pride in his family, while Dudley's is strictly from his own greed and selfishness. Draco would't do half of the things Dudley does simply because it's incredibly unclothe, and he has better ways of getting what he wants. Dudley isn't smart enough to compare to Draco. Though Draco and Dudley might both have things handed to them, Draco is not gluttonous or greedy about it. Dudley will trash his gifts and belongings, constantly wanting more, and viewing things given to him as disposable. Draco wants things yes (like every child does) but he's proud of his possessions and cherishes them, brags about them. Dudley is an animal compared to Draco. He doesn't have the same skill, smarts or self control. Dudley is abusive, and a tyrant in his bullying. Dudley wants to see Harry hurt and bleed. He is very violent compared to Draco. While we constantly and repeatedly see Draco shy away from violence, and use more his words.
Part 3 : DRACO'S "HARASSMENT", STRATEGIES AND EVOLUTION.
Draco despite his threats and facade is Not a violent person. This is because despite all Draco's bravo, and cruel words, Draco is kind. Yes he is conflicted, but that is only more proof of his inner kindness. If he didn't feel guilty, he wouldn't feel conflicted. Which means he really doesn't want to be mean to others, but he's just acting out based on how he thinks he's supposed to feel/act, but doesn't really enjoy it. I think when you strip Draco back behind his actions, and pose, you'll find a very different person. The half-blood prince gave us some of that, but it's another thing to see it in Draco from the beginning. Essentially Draco's attempt at bullying started when Harry rejected his friendship. Draco had probably never been rejected before, and probably couldn't possibly fathom why Harry would choose anyone else over him. While yes that's a bit coincided, Draco was also incredibly sheltered and probably wasn't introduced to children who weren't already tied to his family. Harry's rejection irrevocably shattered Draco's confidence and perception, which sent him into literal years of lashing out at Harry for his hurt emotions, and pining for his attention. It is the most pathetic excuse for bullying, and Draco antagonizing Harry is the equivalent of pulling a girl's pigtails. Draco did get quite shrewd with words, but he was really just trying to get the biggest reaction, especially since Harry is so volatile at times. The truth of the matter is Draco is actually very jealous, because deep down he really admires Harry. He want's the same freedom Harry has. He doesn't want to worry about his duty or who he has to be, but to be able to live authentically the way he views that Harry does. Draco really just wants to be more like Harry, but feels he is stuck, by the Dark Lord, his family obligations or anything else. Draco isn't a bully, he's just sad. Not even Ron or Hermione take him seriously after a while. *cough*this is why Drarry is so huge*
Part 4 : He had no choice?????
Everyone has a choice, but I think you over estimate how easy a choice can be. Family is important to Draco, they are probably the only people who love him for who he is, not what they can get out of him. As a child Draco felt pride in his family, and family made him feel special and important. As he got older that pride turn into expectations, and responsibility. Lucius and Narcissa value the preservation of their family above all else. They are protective and loving and those feeling extended to Draco. It's where he gets his kindness. It is indeed a Slytherin trait to value those you care about above everyone else. We protect our own, a loyalty probably stronger then Hufflepuff for those select few a Slytherin deeply cares about. Draco's parent would let the whole world burn to save him, and Draco would do the same for them. While Draco's family did hold pureblood ideals, after the first war Voldemort was not someone they willing wanted to follow. The light sided also would have never offered aid to death eaters, because fundamentally they were still against the dark, and there was no other place for dark wizards to go except Voldemort. Most of the death eaters had actually been somewhat relived at the news of Voldemort's death, and the boy who lived, as Voldemort had already become insane to the point of torturing his own followers, and wasn't getting them anywhere near their goals. Except for the also insane brainwashed few like Bella who'd follow her lord to the grave, many of the death eater's were content to be peaceful and stay quite after the war. Probably even grateful for it, as there were many needless casualties on both sides. I feel like the Malfoys were one of those families that were happy to get out. If the side they are on is harmful or losing, they are ready to abandon ship. This may sound like they are cowardly with no resolve, but if it was the life and death of your family, and your loved ones, I think you might think differently. I feel like we aren't too far off in agreement here, but where we differ is in judgement and motives we feel the Malfoys, or Draco had. Lucius made a mistake in the first war, and spent the second trying to keep his family out of danger. I can't imagine the fear he had in Azkaban for his family, the dementors feeding off him and what he thought the Dark Lord would do to his only son, his wife, his family. Meanwhile Draco was left with the threat of his father rotting in Azkaban, and his mother being killed. His mother also with the thought of her son being killed. So yes Draco could have made a choice, and he did make a choice, a choice to protect his family, and honestly I can't see that as wrong. Maybe if Harry would have actually taken his offer of friendship things could have gone differently and it wouldn't have come to that.
Part 5 : Abuse Theory
I definitely agree with you here. The Malfoys were not abusive, and get a better anthology for racism then something which in fact could be solved with a study on culture rather then blood. If you want a good parallel for racism in HP forget muggleborns, and look at creature blood, not dumb house elfs either, but werewolves, goblins, centaurs beings just as intelligent as wizards. The bigotry towards werewolves especially is horrific, especially from the "light side" who avidly labels them as dangerous dark creatures. *Also note about the scene in Borgen and Berks* Lucius stopped Draco from touching the artifact because it was probably cursed, as many dark artifacts are. Even if you know what you're doing they can be dangerous to handle carelessly. So Lucius was actually very wise and protecting Draco, his 12 yr old son, from getting badly hurt. Why the cane? If touching a cursed object curses you, then its better not to get close with your actual hands. Using his cane to push Draco away was actually a precaution. Lucius is anything but careless,
Part 6: Draco's Wand and Symbolism
I generally agree here too, but I believe this symbolism is more reflective of the things Draco wishes he could have had, or done differently. If anything the wand and symbolism Draco has is representative of the good in him, and not cowardice, or inability to do enough.
Part 7: Redemption
Tbh I'm part of the crowd that would have liked that deleted scene to stay in the final cut. However I understand what's justifiable for one person, may not be enough for someone else. This is where you get more into the topic of morality, and how much are you morally responsible for as a person. Harry has been drilled with the mindset for years that he has to save everyone, and that if your not in it for the greater good, ready to lay down your life you better forget being in it at all. Personally I don't believe Harry has any right to claim that rhetoric, as Dumbledore(and by association Grindlewald) practically spoon fed it down his throat; but I wont talk about that as it's a whole other issue. Draco, you have to understand has a whole type of different morality. Objectively I believe he's a good person, if not pressured by the echo chamber of ideals around him. Yet Draco repeatedly gives signs, and expresses the desire to want to do good. In order to properly analyze Draco you have to look past his outward facade, and actions, or you'll never see him as anything more then he pretends to be. If you can only read plain text, if you can't see past the obvious, you will always have a very flat one dimensional view of a character or a person. To me there's no redemption needed. Draco is already good, more good then his parents, and perhaps more good then some who claim goodness.
In summary Draco is a very complex person, who tries to over compensate for his flaws, struggles to express honesty, but deeply cares for others, especially his family. His duality lies in how he wants to be good to others, yet how in the end he always chooses to save the ones he loves, over the majority. Draco will always have his flaws, but he will always have his goodness too, and I hope you won't disregard that.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
P.S
Kudos to anyone who read through all that.
