take an AU haunting me for ages now: the “sects go to the terrifying Yiling patriarch to ask for his help in the war, WWX ends up demanding LWJ marry him” fics?
Yes, that, but kinda in reverse.
The Sects go to meet the Yiling Patriarch and he’s as expected: arrogant, bold, careless, demanding. And using heretic powers to keep his Burial Mounds untouched by the world.
They negotiate, he smirks properly wicked, and and says he wants to name a bride and a marriage to the Lan.
The Lan talk, outraged, but they have a war to win so the agreement is struck: marriage to the Lan and the Yiling Patriarch is allowed to name bride and groom. They write it down exactly like that.
The war happens, but with the Yiling Patriarch’s army of the resentful dead, they lose less soldiers, win more battles. The Lan wonder why they were chosen, perhaps because they hold enough moral sway that any hostage of theirs wouldn’t result in another war? Regardless, Lan Wangji makes it his job to stick close to the Yiling Patriarch, as close as he will let anyone. He has a whole entourage of ghost brides, though only one stays close to him at all times, veiled whenever they have company
They win the war. “Bride and groom,” the Yiling Patriarch says and swears to return in three months. There is talk of taking him down now that Wen are gone, but no one wants to go to war in the Burial Mounds.
The Yiling Patriarch arrives in three months as promised, dressed in red, followed by a parade of people. “I’ve come to collect my debt,” he tells them. “I will name Lan Wangji as the groom,” he says, sparking confusion and outrage. Does he intend to name one of his ghost brides next? And indeed, he reached for one, lifts her veil, revealing living woman, but takes the veil for himself instead. “And I, myself, will be his bride.”
The story goes a little like this:
One. Wei Ying’s parents die and he follows them. Only he is young and alive and curious and the Burial Mounds are very hungry. They devour him skin, flesh, bone, teeth. And they spit him out again. And again again and again.
Two. Wen Qing is her uncle’s favorite, but she’s her brother’s only sister. She fears what war means, what the retaliation might mean. Young Masters go to the Cloud Recesses for study on invitation, Wen Qing goes to the Burial Mounds to beg.
Three. There is very little begging to be done in front of a boy her brother’s age, who hasn’t been hugged in years and keeps the company of murdered brides as though they are his mothers, aunts and sisters. She asks for protection, he asks for a meal.
Four. They cannot stay in the Burial Mounds forever. It is not a place for children even Wei Wuxian realizes that one morning and promptly disappears in his childhood bedroom, a cold cave filled with trinkets of the dead. He survived on the cost of skin, flesh, bone, teeth. They cannot all pay this price.
Five. The Sects knock at his door, a solution presents itself. He dressed Wen Qing like his older sister, veil and all, and hides her among his undead. They strike a bargain.
Six. They could keep a hostage, but a hostage will not keep them fed. Brides, he knows from childhood on, marry out. One of his sisters would’ve taken with her all her servants, had her unwilling husband not killed her on the wedding night.
Seven. “This is why it has to be a Lan,” Wen Qing tells him. Your husband would not kill you like this. They might keep him in some other way, but what could be worse than skin, flesh, bone, teeth? A wedding night of death? Nothing. And if he can help his family by making them servants and himself a bride, he’ll stay locked up in the Cloud Recesses. At least this prison will not spit him out.
What Lan Wangji knows is this: the Yiling Patriarch is mocking them, but there is a debt and a debt must be paid.
They marry in name, no matter how much the Yiling Patriarch taunts him about the contents of a proper marriage, and then they live separately. They keep an eye on him of course, him and his servants, who keep to themselves, settling in Caiyi and the Cloud Recesses, wary, hungry, terrified people - not of their master, but of everyone else.
And then, on accident maybe, a slip of the tongue, one of those servants soak a different name. Within a second, the Yiling Patriarch is in front of them in protection, though he looks less arrogant, less bold, less careless, less demanding. He looks, Lan Wangji thinks, like someone who has more too lose than he’d ever admit. He looks terrified like no one in the Cloud Recesses ever should.
So maybe he should ask him why

Summary: Lan Wangji gets married knowing one thing: his husband is his equal. Kay's comments: Sometimes you just need that good-old arranged marriage angst/misunderstandings combo. This one hit really good, with Wei Wuxian trying his best to make his marriage to Lan Wangji work and Lan Wangji just so unhappy with an arranged marriage that he lashes out until he chases Wei Wuxian away and immediately regrets it, because suddenly, his life is boring and lonely again. Wei Wuxian in this story is just a little unhinged at one point. Excerpt: "Am I so repulsive? I get that you can love someone else, but if there's someone to hate, it's not me but your brother!" Lan Wangji flinches, remembering endless fights with Lan Xichen. But it is easier to hate Wei Ying than xiongzhang, who does everything to protect the family. Even if it costs him his own brother. “I don't want to know you," is all Lan Wangji manages. "Yeah, I fucking gathered."
pov lan wangji, arranged marriage, royalty, married lan wangji/wei wuxian, angst with a happy ending, yiling laozu wei wuxian, angst and hurt/comfort, emotional hurt/comfort, developing relationship, strangers to lovers, love confessions, getting together, fights, breaking up & making up, hurt wei wuxian, dark wei wuxian

MDZS summer vacation headcannons
...because it's so warm and sunny outside that it makes me think of the seaside
Warnings: some suggestive implications bc it's wangxian, ofc they're going to be horny
Under the cut because it got long
"Lan Zhan, we should go to beach some time soon!" Wei Ying says in passing as they're drinking their coffees one morning.
"Mn. We will."
Next day LWJ gives WWX a three-fingers-wide file with suggestions for destinations, hotels, fun things to do and reviews from several reputable websites.
It's color coded, laminated, with high quality pictures of rooms and amenities.
"We could have just looked online, Lan Zhan."
"You told me you prefer to read on paper and take notes rather than use a screen. If I can make it easier for you, I will."
It's all 5 star hotels with scenic views and luxury packages only. All the best for Wei Ying, no holds barred.
"Lan Zhan, why are there no prices in this file?"
"Prices do not matter, Wei Ying, I can afford anything for you."
What a man
There are also transportation options, all of them super fancy and customizable
"...a private jet?"
"It is a lot more convenient than commercial airlines, Wei Ying. Flights to our destination are overcrowded and at difficult times of the day for you to wake up at."
"You want to rent a private jet just so I don't have to wake up early?"
"Yes."
What a man x 2
(He also wants to rent the jet so he gets to comfortably join the mile high club with Wei Ying but that's a secret)
Anyways
Once at the fancy resort, they become the talk of the town
Hotel staff loves them
They never tip below 100$, they're both nice and respectful and LWJ glares down entitled Karens whenever they're in his earshot at the restaurant/reception/pool etc. until they shut up
Amazing guests 10/10, staff at other hotels is envious not having had them as clients
The top Google search of the week in the area is "single Lan men"
Everyone knows the super rich and super nice couple living in the presidential suite must be protected at all costs (and spoiled rotten)
They get so much complimentary wine and chocolate that they pack some of it to bring home and gift it to friends and relatives
There's always fresh flower arrangements and various trinkets awaiting them after they return from the beach or from visiting the area
Speaking of
Going to the beach is the only time when WWX willing wakes up early
He likes watching the sunrise
They have such a big beach bag
What do they even carry in there, it's like 10kg
"Lan Zhan, how much sunscreen did you even pack?"
"5 bottles. There are also 2 bottles of tanning oil, 5 towels, three charges, a power bank, money, two changes of clothes... and two bottles of lube."
LWJ is very forward-thinking, you see
The hotel has a private beach and the private beach has a VIP area - LWJ rents it all out so he and WWX get some privacy to enjoy the sun, sand and sea (and the sex)
They rent one of those fancy beach beds with a canopy (like this one) because just laying a towel on the sand is boring
Cocktails. So many cocktails
Bar staff has so much fun making them because WWX obviously knows his way around alcohol so he suggests all sorts of fun mixes and ingredients, it's a whole thing
LWJ quietly sips his mocktails and watches in adoration
(No alcohol for him until later in the day because he gets super light headed in the sun after alcohol and becomes an un-Lan clumsy mess) totally not projecting lmao wdym
None of the fancy apparel stops WWX from building sand castles and collecting seashells to give to LWJ as courting gifts like a crow
"Lan Zhan, do you think I could catch some fish if I dive fast enough?"
"Lan Zhan, look! A crab! It looks like your uncle!"
"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, I think there are dolphins a bit farther out, let's rent a boat so we go see them!"
They do rent a boat, a small yacht to be more exact
LWJ knows how to sail and WWX suddenly can't be bothered with anything but how good his husband looks doing it
(They end up, um, rocking the boat before they even get to see any marine life)
They also rent jet skis
They race each other and do all sorts of fancy tricks to show off
The rest of the beachgoers are bewitched watching them
(It's a whole mating dance for them but people just think they're super competitive or something)
"Hey Lan Zhan do you think we can go far enough so nobody can see us and you fuck me on this jet ski?"
"Wei Ying."
"What, it would be fun!"
(It was)
(Why are they so horny)
The whole time is basically spent fucking after doing various holiday activities
Buying souvenirs? Fucking in the hotel afterwards
Having dinner? Fucking in the restaurant bathroom if the room is too far out
Romantic sunset walking on the beach? Fucking against some rocks after it gets dark (because sand is annoying and gets in unsavory places)
They take so many pictures
WWX posts almost everything on his socials and it's annoying
(nobody dares say anything bc LWJ would doxx them)
They end up stumbling upon some beach party at some point and ofc WWX wants to join in
The hosts are nice and a bit drunk so they agree, LWJ buys everyone shots and the party stretches until the morning
(WWX enjoys dancing and teasing LWJ about it but LWJ gives him the "you'll pay for this when we get back home" look and he knows it's worth it)
"Lan Zhan, let's go swim, I've always wanted to do it in the dark!"
(They do it. Oh, they also swim)
Everyone back home gets a little gift/souvenir thing which translates into an extra 3 luggage bags for LWJ to carry
"We definitely need to do this again, I had so much fun!"
LWJ takes out his laptop immediately and WWX starts laughing.
"Not that soon, Lan Zhan!"
(It is that soon, they basically have a redo of their honeymoon. It's great)

Wei Ying does the Holy Grail War
A crossover with fate/stay night
Note: for those of u who don’t know, fate/stay night is a battle royale where seven mages summon seven heroes from the past and future to battle for a single wish.
The Teams:
Mo xuanyu - Wei Wuxian - Caster
Mo xuanyu summoned wei wuxian. He believes its because they are both driven by revenge. But in truth, he summoned Wei wuxian because of their shared drive and frustration with their unjust circumstances
Wei Wuxian complains about being back plenty of times, goofs off, and tries to get Mo xuanyu to relax
Mo xuanyu finds him frustrating but also a bit like an older brother
Wei wuxian for his part sees mo xuanyu as his chance to offer the support he so desperately needed in his last days, and to remind the boy not to give up on life
There fighting style is to keep to the shadows, often wei wuxian tries to pretend he’s not even a spirit
Lan wangji - Hua Cheng - Archer
Lan wangji does not approve of this war, the cost, or the cruelty it invokes
But! He is desperate for that wish, and a chance to wish wei wuxian back to life
That desperation, that willingness to do anything to save his beloved, summoned Hua Cheng
They work well together in a fight, but in their down time…
They hate each other
Lan wangji finds Hua Cheng’s arrogance agrivating, his unwillingness to follow the simplest order’s frustrating, and his handwriting a sin against nature
Hua cheng finds lan wangji cold, stuck up, and worst of all, he bares a grudge because lan wangji wants to fight jiang cheng, and jiang cheng summoned…
Jiang Cheng - Xie Lian - Saber
It was jiang cheng’s despair that summoned xie lian, the overwhelming feeling he let everyone down and lost everything
Jiang cheng and xie lian work well together, and get along realy well
Jiang cheng is reminded of his sister through xie lian’s gentle nature
Xie lian in turn is nostalgic for Mu Qing every second he listens to Jiang Cheng yell
Xie lian works hard to remind jiang cheng that he has waaaay farther to fall, and he should cheer up! He’s doing great! Bettee than xie lian!
Jiang cheng doesn’t have the heart to tell him that’s not a high bar
Jin Guangyao - shen Qingqiu - Assassin
When Jin Guangyao summoned Shen Qingqiu, the strategist of Cang Qiong mountain sect he was estatic! Finally a man who would understand what he’s been through, who’s just as ruthless as he is!
Alas, he did not get shen jiu, he got shen yuan, a posser pretending to be the strategist
He spends his time trying to make life better for the cute little students of lanling jin, lazing around, and trying to look clever
Jin guangyao is left wonderinf how dumb cang qiong mountain sect had to be if this was their best strategist
Nie Huaisang - Lou Binghe - beserker
Nie huaisang summoned lou binghe for one purpose only… revenge
And luo binghe with his OP everything, is more than happy to help this fan weilding man who reminds him just a bit of his shizun
Then he sees the spirit of nie huaisang’s arch nemisis, and turns into a sobbing maiden desperate to get shizun to notice him please!
In the background, Nie huaisang breaks his fan
A-Qing - Wen Qing - lancer
A-qing was not supposed to be in the war. She stole the relic from xue yang
The relic summoned Wen Qing, the legendary doctor
A-qing’s desire to bring back and protect xiao xingchen calls to wen qing’s own desire to protect wen ning
Armed with common sense, a-qing’s cunning, and needles, these two are the dark horse of this holy grail war
It helps that two other spirits reactions to seeing her is to start cryinf and hug her
Xue Yang - Mobei-jun - rider
Xue yang will not let anything get in between him and what he wants, even little blind.
He finds another relic and summons mobei-jun
Mobei jun has a soft spot for crazy small men who have no morals, but even xue yang gets on his nerves sometimes
No problem, mobei jun just picks him up by the scruff of his neck and holds him like s disgruntled kitten
Xue yang is a lot like a demon kid, mobei thinks he should ask shang qinghua if he wants to adopt some kids when he gets back
Xue yang does not apreciate this
And an honorary:
Lan sizhui - wen ning
Wen Ning is not an actually summoned spirit. He broke free from the jins and got rescued by lan sizhui when he found him in the woods
Lan sizhui proceeds to take him home and try to hide him, but lan jingyi found out
Lan jingyi was the one to come up with the plan of pretending they summoned wen ning to fight, so that they can have an excuse to bring Wen ning around and stop hiding him under lan sizhui’s bed
This unexpectedly works, since several masters are keeping to the shadows, lan jungyi and lan sizhui both feel very proud of themselves, but lan Wangji has all the angst about having to possibly face his son down the line, and could he realy do that?
Lucky for Lan Wangji, wei wuxian figures out what’s really going on pretty quick once he meets wen ning again.

Saw yet another post that reduced Lan Wangji's entire character to Wei Wuxian’s existence, so I'm screaming here again. So many people talk about him like he doesn't give a damn about what's right outside of WWX caring about it. Like he cares about fairness and justice only because Wei Ying does, so he must too, because otherwise Wei Ying would be upset. It's literally the opposite! Lwj may have been horny at first sight for wwx, but he fell in love only when he saw the side of him that wanted to fight for justice and righteousness, to protect those who needed it. Look at Lan Wangji's face when they're releasing the lanterns at Gusu, and Wei Wuxian makes his resolution. Look at him and tell me its not the face of a someone falling in love.
Why does he go around helping those in need after Wei Wuxian is gone? 'because Wei Ying would have wanted it' is not the answer, at least not a complete one. Maybe he would never be able to face Wei Ying if he didn't try to fight for what's right. But its also the fact that he failed to do it before, he failed and it ended with Wei Ying jumping off a cliff. He is a man who fought a war on the side of righteousness only to realise way too late that it was rotten from the inside. Losing wwx is a huge blow not just because the man he loved is dead, but because wwx put everything at stake, including his life, trying to uphold the pact they made to be truly righteous at any cost, while lwj could barely do anything for it.
Lan Wangji was always so strict about the rules not because he doesn't know any better or because he was a teacher's pet or whatever. It's because he believes they're necessary for justice and righteousness! His entire arc is about his experiences forcing him to reexamine the rules that have dictated his life and the world he has lived in, and see if they are truly for good. It's him realizing those rules are not as black and white as he'd thought, coming to terms with the complexities of what is right and wrong. It's him realising how unfair and broken his world can be despite or even because of these rules, and deciding he will not be able to live with himself without doing something, however little, about it. How can you just ignore all of that!!!

If I start talking about trauma in MDZS I might never stop. What's most beautiful to me is that the way each character reacts to the same situation is different. It is unique to their personality and it's a little beautiful.
Mengyao and Xue Yang weaponizing their trauma and turning it into a sword to take down anything that stands in their way.
Xingchen unfortunately internalising his trauma, blaming himself and taking responsibility for whatever he believes he's caused.
Song Lan actually goes out and tries to resolve his trauma which was nice and healthy, until everyone died of course.
Jiang Cheng turning his trauma into rage because admitting the pain and loneliness hurts too much.
Wei Ying amazingly does that thing that children do where they forget terrible memories to protect their fragile minds and hearts. This dude thinks all the things he's gone through is just everyday living. He is not at all phased by it. What he does remember, interestingly, is now the stuff that happened when he was a kid. He's still terrified by dogs till this day, no matter how strong he becomes, it means nothing against that one memory of being chased and bitten by them as a child.
Lan Zhan turned his trauma into self harm and denial. Yes, self harm and no one takes this seriously enough. He trekked a barren mountain with multiple whip wounds searching for someone who everyone had watched die. He BRANDED his own chest. Lan Zhan's trauma is slept on.
Xichen also ignores his trauma. His brain doesn't protect him, he just pretends he can't see it. It piles and piles and piles and finally everything just shattered. Can't even blame Xichen for breaking down, he'd been playing therapist for too many people for way too long.
Mingjue turned his trauma into strength which I think was pretty bad ass of him. 🔥 Became a one man army. Too bad he's also brutally honest to a fault.
Huaisang also turned his trauma into 'strength'. More like a deadly weapon of mass destruction.
Wen Ning. Sigh. I don't even know where to start because I haven't started dissecting his sad ass story. They killed his sister right in front of him. Right in front of baby. He never did a single thing wrong. The world is cruel.
Jin Ling took a page out of his Uncle's book and turned his pain to rage.
Sizhui was a child when shit went down so fortunately for him, he doesn't remember most of it.
Yanli sets aside her pain and just takes care of her family. It cost her.
Zixuan never had much trauma to begin with, unless we count being bullied by Wei Ying. 😂 That boy was smacking him anyhow.
Not sure if I'm missing anyone. Su She was just bitter. Maybe he had trauma, maybe I don't care cause I don't like him. How can anyone hate on the Lan brothers cause they were born heirs? They didn't ask for that life. Sour cockroach.
Back on Zixuan, having a prostitute father should count for some kind of trauma. It's absolutely disgusting to have a role model that shameless. He refused all pages from his father's book and swore to be nothing like him. It was cute, and sad. Sad that he still ended up paying for father's sins.
"I didn't mean to kill Zixuan. I just wanted him to suffer a little."
F you for that statement Mengyao. I love you, but F you.

Part 1/7(brainrot!anon) so basically i saw "mdzs favourite ship and what it say about you" video, there is CSSR x YZY Ship and they say ”you like younger wangxian." . Accidentally start brainrot au where after PIWD, where SJ reincarnated as YZY and planning to fake his death after realising that he engaged with JFM(YQY 1.0), CSSR find out about SJ!YZY plan to fake his death and help him because damn, cultivation society sucked for woman. Along the way SJ!YZY slowly getting closer with CSSR.
Part 2/7JFM who actually in love with SJ!YZY realized that he need to step up his game before CSSR elope with his love ,[JFM misunderstanding the whole elope thing, but SJ platonic attraction did happen] so he send WCZ to distract CSSR while he romanced SJ!YZY because CSSR kept accidentally cockblock them repeatedly. Jfm finally won over Sj!Yzy [upgrade to Yqy 5.0] at cost of WCZ elope with CSSR . Rumor still happen in same way.
Part 3/7 But ironically in truth instead of Sj!YZY hating CSSR, it Jfm, for running away with his right man and almost turned his love into cutsleeve. CSSR and WCZ [alive because i say so] visit lotus pier occasionally. Jfm look amicable toward CSSR[Mentally, he will fight her to death if provided reason] ,
Part 4/7 Sj [happy and spoiled rotten by jfm] teach Jyl,Jc and Wwx(sibling in arms) what he learnt from previous life,( Sj will provide and protect his children with his life]
Part 5/7 Meanwhile, in PIWD, original luo binghe obsessed what he saw in SVSS and turned back time, to get kind shizun he want but Sj no longer exist in PIWD so he never find him,
Part 6/7 there is consequences for mixing three incompatible realms when Lbg turned back time, one realms can't return back to three.[ Abyss will take and never let go what it can hold]
Part 7/7 So human and demon race no longer exist, instead all PIDW cast get reborn as abyss creature(or humanoid) but retaining their memories. [Lbg accidentally nefted himself significantly because everyone has demon strength).
-o-o-o-o-o-o-
What would be interesting is that Shen Jiu is still a little too harsh, too mean, too demanding as a parent. He doesn't exactly have a healthy example to model after (and there isn't therapy either). And he's trying to be a good parent, he's cut out a lot of the harshness he had has a peak lord, but still his past flashes in his eyes and his mind can't help but whisper how his children are still so pathetic, so spoiled that they aren't properly taking advantage of all their opportunities laid out in front of them.
His words are bitter and cruel sometimes. His disappointment a sharp lashing against the kids. He hates seeing Wei Ying's brilliance not being full utilized because the boy wants to splash around in the water instead. He scorns Jiang Cheng's weak spine, bowing to social pressure because he wants to "fit in", his inability to hide his temper...
Sometimes when he sees the children, on his bad days when all he can think about are memories of his past life, all Shen Jiu can feel is disdain and loathing. As a streetrat, Shen Jiu would had murdered for such opportunities.
(Actually, he technically did that.)
And Jiang Fengmian is a little too in love with his wife that he doesn't do anything about it. He doesn't step in between Shen Jiu's sharp tongue and the children.
Shen Jiu must always be in the right, no? And even if he's not, Jiang Fengmian is sure it's not that big of a deal. No need to rock the boat and make his wife mad at him instead.

Fanon Petpeeve: Disregarding Wei Wuxian’s Gift For Jin Ling
Now, this happens in a lot of fics, and there is no one type of fanfic that these scenes show up in, only that the fic is set during the Yiling Laozu days.
The gripe that I have comes as this: When it's times for Jin Ling;s one month celebration, instead of the canon gift that Wei Ying created, the writer will have Wei WuXian gift (or try to gift) baby Jin Ling.....a YunmengJiang Sect bell.
Now, some may be thinking, “why does that tick you off?”, but let me explain.
Qiongqi Path part 2 is a culmination of the the three years of the sects’ malignment towards Wei Wuxian. He gets ambushed by people from all the sects, being accused for a crime he did not commit. Jin Zixun destroys the gift that Wei Wuxian made for Jin Ling and when Jin Zixuan shows up and (terribly) tries to deescalate the situation....well we all know what happens.
During this scene, Wei Wuxian was so pissed off that his gift was destroyed that he charges Jin Zixun. Now, some may be thinking again, “wouldn’t he be that pissed if the gift was a Jiang sect bell?” but:
By having Wei Wuxian gift Jin Ling a Jiang Sect bell you care taking away some of Wei Wuxian’s prime reasons for being angry during that scene.
The gift itself was not the sole reason Wei Wuxian was so pissed, it was everything leading up to its destruction.
The bell that Wei Wuxian created had the ability to ward off all low level spirits and corpses from the wearer. Jin Ling would have been fully protected from all threats unless they were something higher level ala Wen Ning or Nie Mingjue.
Wei Wuxian spent an entire week inside his cave creating this gift. Afterwards, he went into town and bought new robes for the event. [Think about how much those robes must have cost him for him to be presentable before a plethora of rich cultivators] After that he and Wen Ning made an entire weeks trek to Lanling just to attend this celebration, and upon their arrival to Qiongqi Path, get ambushed by the combined forces of the sects, lead by a man (the cousin no less) of the very man who invited him in the first place.
Yes, Wei Wuxian was annoyed that Jin Zixun accused him of cursing him despite Wei Wuxian not knowing who he was, and he has every single right to be pissed about the gifts destruction, but you are missing an even bigger picture.
Jin Zixun destroyed Wei Wuxian’s gift in mere seconds. A gift that took an entire week to create. A event that he spent money and resources to attend has now become an ambush to klll him for a crime hasn’t committed. Everything he did probably seemed like it was for nothing.
The weeks Wei Wuxian spent making that gift and going to Lanling could have been time he spent making the Burial Mounds more bearable for himself and the Wens. The money he spent on robes could have been spent on food or medical supplies.
That’s two weeks of time and who knows how much money spent only for him to have to fight for his life.
Yes, Wei Wuxian wanted to see the baby who he gave a courtesy name to, yes he wanted to see Yanli, but the gifts destruction is a single drop in the ocean of why Wei Wuxian lost his cool on Qionqi Path.
By making Wei Wuxian gift (and subsequently get angry over) a Jiang Sect bell, you take away not only the time and resources wasted, but you also make Wei Wuxian’s anger all about the Jiang Sect/Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli and completely do away with his situation with the Wens.
Wei Wuxian has not been a member of the Jiang Sect for three years at that point in the story. He has no reason to bring a Jiang Sect bell to the Jin heir’s one month celebration. Additionally, politically speaking, do you know how bad it would look for Wei Wuxian, the man that Jiang Cheng lied to the sects about “betraying the Jiang and calling himself the enemy of the cultivation world” to bring the spiritual tool of that sect to a baby’s celebration? They would have thought he was mocking them and who knows what would have happened!

MDZS update 2
So....the more I read the more I realise I have a personal crush on Jiang Cheng, I love Lan Sizhui to bits and I want Lan Wangji and Wei Ying to be forever happy.
Jin Ling is a cutie pie, that needs to be protected at all costs.
I have also recently discovered that Nie Huisang randomly gets more handsome the more you find out "things".....
Like what the heck? I feel attacked...
I think it's the same thing that happens when Wei Ying is the Yiling Patriarch....he also becomes more handsome...

Teen:
Admonishment, by bookwyrmling
“It’s just odd.”
Qiren raised an eyebrow at his nephew’s words. “Hm?”
“After all, Wangji and I grew up with you telling us our parents do not define us,” Xichen said—a half explanation Qiren knew the boy would want to finish.
“And?” he probed.
“And you are defining Wei-gongzi by his mother,” Xichen pointed out with a polite smile.
some sage and lilies and roses, by loosingletters
“No need to worry though, Mo-gongzi!” the girl exclaimed. “We of Yunmeng Jiang have a reputation for coming up with solutions on the fly and a-Die will most certainly fix it!”
A new voice interrupted the conversation, amusement carrying through the night like the loveliest of tunes.
“A-Die will fix what?”
Wei Ying.
Thirteen years after his death, Lan Wangji is resurrected by Mo Xuanyu and meets a group of Jiang disciples.

General:
Warmth, by Quiet_crash
He may be shivering something awful but he's sitting in the cold springs, that's the whole point! Isn't it?
--
Or, Wei Wuxian's lone brain cell fails him critically.
monsters cannot break her stride, by Stratisphyre

We're friends... right?, by Cy_an_Blue (1st in a series, locked)
The juniors thought that the revered Hanguang-Jun would runaway and elope with the recently found-innocent Yiling Patriarch. When it didn't happen after Jin Guangyao's death, they waited...
...and waited...
...and waited.
Nothing! Absolutely Nothing!
Up until Wei Qianbei met them on a Nighthunt, they thought that he was an idiot for leaving the Cloud Recesses! But... that was before. Now they wonder... does Hanguang-Jun deserve Wei Qianbei?
Haunted house, by Indrel (locked)
Two haunted homes and three promises made to protect A-Yuan from the ghosts and monsters that want to harm him.
Unfinished
Teen:
patching the road with vague intentions, by loosingletters
“What have you done!?” thundered a voice Wei Wuxian had, frankly speaking, never wanted to hear again.
“Old man Lan?” Wei Wuxian blurted out, staring at the aged face of his former teacher.
At the back of his mind, Wei Wuxian remembered the cut of his robes, that he wasn’t dressed like a widow at all, but like a Lan.
Lan Qiren looked around, his gaze stuck somewhere above Wei Wuxian’s head, most likely the half-ruined summoning array behind him – fucking stupid, Wei Wuxian should’ve gotten rid of it immediately. Just why did it have to be a Lan summoning him, why Lan Qiren his visitor at the door? Wasn’t death enough punishment?
“Wei Wuxian?” Lan Qiren asked wearily.
Or, Wei Wuxian is summoned back to life in the Cloud Recesses. Unfortunately, the person to find him is Lan Qiren, forcing the unlikely duo to work together to keep the circumstances Wei Wuxian's return undiscovered.
Anything for Family, by Starlight143
Faced with pitiful resistance by the Wens in the Burial Mounds and later with the sick toddler his nephew brings back, Lan Qiren doubts the truthfulness of the scenario they were presented with. With one nephew being wilfully blind and the other in seclusion and refusing to speak, Lan Qiren is left to satisfy his suspicions on his own. Activating a time travelling array hadn't been his plan but after being deposited in the past, Lan Qiren refused to sit back and watch his family and home be destroyed a second time.
General:
Restitution, by GeminiWillow
Wherein Jin Ling realizes the maternal side of his family has wrought just as much harm on innocents as his paternal side.
