When is it the right time to kiss?

It's a question that's bothered you since the car ride home. Even now, when walking up the steps to your apartment door with Toji following you after a lovely date.

If this were like any ordinary date, the person you're with would expect something in return, right? You can't quite say the same for Toji; even when you spot his eyes peering into you as if he's ready to pin you down somewhere, he still respects your space as the date continues.

This still brings you back to questioning if you should be the one to initiate or not. Will there be a perfect moment? But what if—

"Hey. Isn't your door right here?"

You stop walking and turn behind to see Toji standing beside your apartment door, too deep in your thoughts to realize you had walked past it. You laugh at yourself. "Yes, that would be mine."

Toji scoffs with a smirk. "Silly thing." He watches you sheepishly walk back to the front of your door, stopping between the hard surface and the tall man behind you to unlock the doorknob. "Had a good time, sweetheart?"

"I had a great time." You reply. "Did you?"

"Always havin' a good time when I'm with you, sweet thing." He smiles when you giggle. "You looked so good, ya know. So fuckin' pretty."

It's hard to look at him, so your eyes dart down to the ground to calm the heat growing in your cheeks. "Thanks." You mumble modestly.

Toji lets out a hearty laugh. "Whatcha shy for?" He brings a big hand to your chin and pulls you back to his face. "Gotta let my sweetie know they're lookin' good."

Your chuckle is nervous, but your eyes show gratitude. His hand slides to your cheek, and yours comes up to place on top of his. "Thank you, Toji."

"No need, baby."

Silence fills the air between you. His forest-green eyes hone in on your face. Your lips.

Wait. Is...this happening right now?

You see him lean forward to you, and your breath is hitched.

Oh fuck, this is really happening!

You quickly closed your eyes before his lips pressed into yours, body staying still for the moment. Oh, you were not prepared for this. It's only for a few seconds before Toji lifts his head away do you open your eyes again.

"Heh, did I make the wrong move?" His words were meant to light up the tension, along with the thumb that strokes your cheek. You shake your head. His eyes narrow with a raised brow. "Mind I do it again, baby?" His voice goes down a whisper, but the husky tone makes you faintly bite your lip.

You nod slowly. Upon closing your eyes once more, Toji grins, inclining back on your soft lips. You moan when he draws his hand to the back of your neck, pulling you in with your hands to his shoulders to keep you steady.

With your back on the door, Toji brings a leg between yours, keeping you posted against him with his free hand reeling you from the back. Your lips slip away from him, calling out to him in a whimper, and the older man's resistance withers away.

Hungry lips ravage your tender ones, and your legs almost lose balance. Your moans only fuel him to deepen the kiss, tilting his head for a better angle. "Mmmph, taste s' good, sweet thing," Toji soothed between smooches, lightly sucking your tongue before shoving his back inside.

Your mind starts to go fuzzy, your limbs trembling like jelly under his bow, and your eyes begin to water with how hard you've kept them shut. Your hands shift to his back, gripping the black dress shirt that covers his well-sculpted muscles.

And it doesn't help that his leg is between yours; your core forced to grind on his sturdy thigh, rocking with your humps to further the heat drawing south. His big hands roam down and grope your behind. The suggestive moans and groans fill the open space, and you hope your neighbors aren't listening to you becoming a mewling mess in this messy makeout session.

But it feels way too good to stop. Being close and exchanging tongues with the man you're attracted to has you drunk on this euphoric feeling, and the arousing throbbing sensation keeps growing. It all feels too exhilarating. Too ecstatic. Too fucking good.

On Toji's end, he doesn't give a shit if the other residents listen to you two. All that matters now is having you in his hold like this, turning you into mush under him and only for him. Kneading your ass with his skillful hands, your wails are taken by his mouth. He has no plan to let this moment end and no care for anyone.

Well, minus you when he feels you tap at his back frantically, realizing he hasn't let you take a proper breath in almost a minute. Oh shit. When he finally breaks the kiss, you're gasping heavily for air around you, watery eyes shot open. A string of saliva snaps to remove the connection between the pairs of lips.

Your wet eyes are half-hooded with scrunched brows, a trail of drool evident from your panting mouth, and your face so hot casting a dazed expression. The grin on Toji's face gets broader from your intoxicating display.

"Sorry 'bout that, baby." He kisses your forehead and massages your rear.

"What? For trying to kill me with a kiss?" You joke under breathless giggles while wiping the saliva off. Toji snickers and places your head on his chest, resting his chin atop your head.

"Death by my lips, huh? Hmph, you'd have it way easier than most people I deal with." The two of you sway side to side. "And I wouldn't mind getting lost in your cute lips again sometime, pumpkin."

1) The drawing I'm the most proud of this year is actually one I never ended up posting lmao, so I suppose this is the perfect reason to actually do that

I always feel a bit self-concious about posting non-fanart drawings cuz they don't tend to gain as much attention. Which, I am fully aware that there are more important things than clout! But I am a simple woman, I crave validation 😔 Anyway, I am still very happy about how this one turned out. I very much prefer drawing characters over enviroments, which led to me being way worse at drawing enviroments than characters, so I've been pushing myself for the last couple of years to get better at drawing backgrounds and surroundings. While I still definetily have a lot of room for improvement, this illustration here is the best I've done in drawing enviroments yet.

2) Again, original stuff don't tend to get as much attention (which I fully understand btw, I don't wanna make it seem like I'm complaining too much, I very much appreciate any and all support I get!!!!) but this post with some doodles of my OCs as well as this random drawing of some forest with a big stone head lying in it are a couple of posts I wouldn't mind if more people saw so..... the links are there if ya wanna have a look 👀

This GIF was the first piece of RotTMNT fanart I ever reblogged and it's still glued to my mind it's just great honestly.

Man I do not like Timothy in the 2012 TMNT series at all but MAN do I love the way pinetreevillain adapted the character for the Rise universe! He's made quite a few comics of Rise!Timothy and he made the character so extremely likable I just hdsjhgjakfga also Pine's artstyle is delicous yummy yum go check out his art now!

I really like those reanimation projects where a bunch of people collaborate and reanimate induvidual segments in their own style, and there was recently one of those released that was a remake of The Clothes Don't Make The Turtle episode from season two of RotTMNT and it's great! sumeru boys redesigns + notes

as you may know, i redesigned the sumeru boys a few weeks ago because, as much as i love them to bits, their designs are well. not that great in some areas. also because i wanted to draw them more often without the roadblock of their designs being so complicated. i've mainly been drawing my cyno and tighnari redesigns, but i did also do alhaitham and kaveh, so i thought that i'd show off these redesigns in one post, along with some notes on why i made certain decisions. hope you enjoy!

(pre-note: just so no one gets confused, i also renamed everyone when i did my redesigns, giving tighnari and alhaitham first names and cyno and kaveh last names.)

tighnari ❀

(renamed abdullah al-tighnari; tighnari was made his surname because that was the case for the real guy he was based on)

i went into this thinking "how can i make this design more appealing to me while still retaining what the original design meant?". since tighnari is one of my favorites in the game overall, i put a lot of pressure on myself to make a decent design.

a lot of tighnari's design inspiration comes from moroccan (specifically amazigh) culture, which i kept in my mind through most of the drawing. this inspiration shows in his bead necklace (i forget the name), his belt, and his earring, which i remade to mirror the shape of moroccan headpieces.

gave him some muscles because there's no way a guy with his job wouldn't have them. also a bottom-heavy fat distribution for self-indulgent purposes.

the design has less layers and lighter/flowier clothes because of tighnari's canon sensitivity to heat. if you're living in the rainforest (a famously humid biome), you probably wouldn't be wearing what canon tighnari does, heat sensitivity or not.

gave him some traits that are popular headcanons, such as the flower thigh tattoo, the sharp teeth, the scars, the claw-like nails (with the middle and ring nails filed down for No Reason), and the lichtenberg figure. also gave him tan skin and wavy hair because i Cannot deal with canon nari looking like that.

sturdy shoes! archery gloves! his vision on his belt! quality of life features that an actual forest ranger would have!

i will admit that the slit pants, the shorts, and the tights were all for self-indulgence reasons, but i think they go together well with the rest of the outfit too.

a braid in his hair for cynari marriage purposes. (i hc that in sumeru, marriages are consummated by braiding each other's hair)

kaveh ❂

(renamed kaveh laghmani; surname is of iranian origin, but i forgot the meaning)

another real quick note: if i change a character's pronouns in their rewrite, i'll be using those pronouns in their notes. here, kaveh goes by he/she pronouns (she just like me fr).

his canon design is actually my favorite of the sumeru boys, so this redesign was more of a simplification while still keeping the original color scheme and such.

from my research, kaveh's mainly inspired by persian/iranian culture. this is what i had in mind with her shirt and her jacket... shawl... thing. idk what to call it.

kept him a skinny twink; imo, her being a twink in canon fits pretty well.

emphasized the bird of paradise motif with the thing on her side looking like feathers. you will see this again with alhaitham.

made him brunet for more cohesion with the color palette, also because i don't like the whole blonde-fading-to-brown situation he has going on in his canon design.

flowers!!! also giving him a pretty headpiece bc this guy is flashy. also also keeping the feather, it's cunty and fun.

i wanted to make kaveh obviously gnc/genderqueer without going into full-on feminine outfit territory. you can tell she's not quite cis but it's not super in your face yk?

made his vision one of his earrings like yae miko because i forgot to give it a proper place in my concept drawings lmao

quality of life feature: actual artist gloves that aren't cut off. seriously, them being fingerless in the canon design completely negates the point of artist gloves.

removed his braids because of the aforementioned marriage headcanon.

alhaitham ⚘

(renamed amir al-haytham; i wanted to give him the most basic name possible, though i fought with myself a lot on whether to write it as al-haitham or al-haytham)

my god i despise his canon design. it's so... not him. my goal with a redesign was just to give him an outfit that made sense for his character because jesus his canon design is an atrocity.

alhaitham is mainly inspired by either saudi arabian or general west asian culture (like what's constant and such). i was mainly inspired by casual saudi arabian menswear when i was designing him.

hot take but i don't like alhaitham being buff in canon. i made him chubby/fat in my redesign mainly for self-indulgent reasons, but also because it makes more sense to me. also gave him facial hair because yes

kept his color scheme mostly the same, along with the eye motif. emphasized the eagle motif slightly with the feather hip piece (see: kaveh's redesign).

gave him a headscarf (not a hijab or anything like that, just a regular headscarf) because he felt like the type, plus i got the design idea for it and went "well i can't not include it now".

wanted to give him the vibes of an npc who was forced to be a main character

no he isn't wearing his vision anywhere, he doesn't carry it around in my rewrite.

quality of life features: more sensible, looser clothes that are easier to live in- really the whole design is meant to be a quality of life improvement first and foremost

cyno ⚡︎

(renamed cyno al-sahrawi; surname meaning is "of the sahara" or more generally, "of the desert")

like kaveh, i'm gonna be using he/they pronouns for cyno here because that's what i put in my rewrite.

in my opinion, cyno's design is relatively solid, but with a few glaring flaws that kinda ruin everything for me. i'll bring them up as these notes go on.

they're very obviously inspired by ancient egyptian culture, specifically anubis. like, it's very blatant. with my redesign, i wanted to keep those inspirations in mind while making the outfit less stereotypical and make more sense.

why does this man, who's said to fight a lot, not wear a shirt? why are you letting the place where most of your vital organs reside breathe freely? also, why does this guy not have scars?

simplified a bunch of patterns, especially below the belt and with his headpiece. also made their helmet(?) a darker, more saturated purple to attract your eyes' attention to it.

gave him eye of horus makeup for a little cultural nod

the black piece in the back was made to look like a tail to further the jackal thing.

curly hair that resembles lightning bolts <3

the shoes were inspired by traditional egyptian footwear, because if this guy is out in the desert all the time, i'm not letting him go without some kind of foot protection.

quality of life features: a bit of armor on his arm (partially for aesthetic purposes), less flowy bits on his helmet and hips to prevent distraction or getting caught on things, the aforementioned shoes

added braids for cynari purposes, because i'm me.

hope you enjoyed reading this! please keep in mind that this is all off the top of my head and doesn't even go into color theory, how the designs mirror each other, and other smaller things like that. i might make a part 2 someday going into those things, but who knows with my memory lmao

(I feel like them being autistic is a pretty common headcanon, so I’m curious if you have any thoughts on that as well)

YEAYEYWYEYYSUSY OH MY GOD YES WE HAVE SO MANY HEADCANONS ABT THEM !!!!! get ready for a fuckn infodump (also sosoos many of these are just us projecting)

warning: i sound like an insane person

okay so YES !!! nightshade is absolutely autistic. and they are stimming constantly. they stim vocally a lot, and a lot of the time its just bird sounds, but sometimes it'll just start screaming lmao. it also likes to rock back and forth a lot!! definitely a verrrry common one.

Also if youve seen how we draw nightshade you might've noticed that we draw xem with little wings in root mode! they also flap those to stim :]

also they love slime!!! this is verry much just me projecting but i like to think xey love slime and they have a huge collection of textures <33 its favorite is bingsu!!!

and NEOPRONOUNS as you might've noticed :P. (we have a nightshade alter that uses neos so we are once again, projecting) but anyway, it was hashtag that told nightshade about neos, and they immediately got into it!! they have many and love hoarding them <3 some of xeir favorites are it/xe/that/owl/web/bot/mur

bones!!! vulture culture!!!!! they collect bones. sometimes theyll go out into the forest and search for bones for hours (it has soooo many antlers) and if web finds a dead animal, web'll take it back with them to clean it out webselves :]

They also have intrusive thoughts. yeah less fun headcanon time. they can be very vivid and very graphic, and its caused nightshade to have panic attacks a few times. i hc that bumblebee also used to have them, so bees helped xem through some of the bad ones <3

also xey have severe emetophobia. yeah i know, a bit of a weird one. if someones sick, they will be avoiding that person like the plague. whenever it watches a movie with the family, it'll always check if there are emeto scenes so it knows when to look away or leave (shout out to doesthedogdie.com i fucking love that website!!!!)

this post cus i think about it a lot

and general terran hc! i headcanon that all the terrans can eat human food :D although nightshade specifically has a difficult time eating (the tism) and xey'll only eat things like noodles or very processed food. murs a huge ramen lover 😎

MINECRAFT. you cannot look at nightshade and tell me they dont love minecraft!! xey have a survival world going where xeyre completely decked out in netherite, have a hundred redstone machines scattered all over the place, and just so many huge projects going on. mur started a multi player world and got all murs siblings to join. most chaotic world ever

and now im thinking abt owls, so. they have night vision, because of course. and it also sleeps in a nest (terrans can sleep hc jumpscare) its just a pile of a fuck ton of pillows and blankets and if you touch it xey WILL bite you

also it has a very strong prey drive. if they see anything particularly small moving around on the floor they are fucking jumping it. its like xeyre the maltos mouser lmao. no small animal that shows up in the malto home is safe

oh and as for music !!! big fan of the big neurodivergent three lmao. lemon demon, will wood, tally hall. that stuff yknow? (yes im projecting) also heres a playlist that our nightshade alter made that is 100% what we hc source nightshade to listen to !!!!

LOVES STAR TREK !!!! you CANNOT convince me they wouldn’t. big fan of the non-human bridge officers <3 Spock, Data, Saru (and also big Odo fan) webs favorite is probably next gen :] also i 100% percent believe it was Alex that introduced xem to it. i look at alex and see a star trek liker. i will not be taking criticism

oh and now heres a weird one. when nightshade was a protoform, they were always very… squinty? i dunno, its just something we noticed. like why are you squinting baby, can you not see? and then when xey got their altmode, suddenly xeir eyes were much wider! and i like to think that they did actually have bad eyesight as a protoform! and becoming an owl greatly improved it :]

also they cant see glass in their alt mode <3 hashtag has a compilation of mur crashing into windows

and about the episode "missed connection", we aren't actually told how long nightshade was helping tarantulas, and while most interpret it as just one day, i like to think it actually took about a week at least or even longer. i dont really know why i hc this, but maybe its cus i need nightshade and tarantulas to be besties or i'll die

DCA inspired OC for a fun lil concept i had for a fazebear entertainment 'Build a Bot' idea where you can build your own mini robot companion with Milky Way being one such product that my sona/Bloo owns :D

Dawn/Dusk:

Another OC i made for funsies, that i had created to be a performer on the Theatre Stage area of the daycare, but i kind of lost motivation for ghjdfg but i still love the design/concept of the character so i may bring them back eventually perhaps in a different form(s)! stares at mermay ideas

They were made as a joke because of all these bloodmoon related happenings to me that started with a typo and then other funky lil coincidences piling up as well and eventually ending up with me drawing Bloo in Moon's form but as 'Bloo(d) Moon'

And now they're a sort of crack sona with maybe some Bloo lore thrown in too because brain went brrr HJDFG fae shapeshifting logic and other fun stuff

AS FOR ORIGINAL CHARACTERS- Well not counting Bloo herself, i have a fair few old ones FHDJKGF but they need a lot of reworking :’D

VERY good question that made me actually sit down and listen to all of the Project Voltage songs lmao

This got long so everything past the first two are under the cut!

TL;DR: 4 L/N, 4 MMJ, 4 VBS, 4 WxS, 3 n25

Volt Tackle- I think for just Volt Tackle itself, L/N could rock it since parts of it remind me of songs like Teo or Hibana -Reloaded-. However, for the Jewel Remix, VBS would be the ones to cover it and you cannot change my mind on that. It’d be really cool if in-story this was one of L/N’s songs and VBS decided to remix and cover it

Electricity Forecast- The Viridian Forest theme (one of my favorite themes in all the games and not only because of Yellow) seals to me that this would be an n25 song. I really have no defense for it other than that but honestly tell me it doesn’t fit. Like I could see an argument for VBS but I think n25 would slay this

What Kind of Future- I could see MMJ doing some kind of collaboration with Pokemon and covering this song, like them kind of incorporating the “attacks” in their choreography or something like that. The beat also reminds me of some of their songs, like Newly Edgy Idols. I can definitely see this on an idol stage. I also think at least Minori would be amused by all of the puns XD

The Pokemon Inside My Heart- This one for sure gives WxS, especially on the gaming side of things. You know if this were a song in-universe Nene would cover it even on her own. It honestly reminds me of some of their more chill songs as a group, and honestly feels kind of reminiscent of Starry Sky Melody for some reason?? That might just be me

Battle! (Hatsune Miku)- VBS hands-down, are you kidding? I don’t even think I have to justify my choice here

Fly With You- It’s telling the story of Mudkip and Pelipper, so I think WxS would cover this just on the storytelling ground, y’know? I could see it being a show on Wonder Stage

I GOT YOU!- VBS, and again I don’t really think I have to justify this choice lol, I also think this is one of my favorites so far

JUVENILE- L/N both based on the overall sound and the themes in the lyrics! Very fitting imo. Tell me I’m wrong I dare you

I’m a Ghost Type- I was originally going to say VBS, but I honestly think that n25 could handle this song slightly better? I’m still kind of torn between them but I’m going to say final answer n25 because they do deserve some hard-hitting beats like this, plus n25 has done several syudou songs before that went well

GO! Team BIDOOF- I’m kind of caught between MMJ and WxS for this one, but I think I’m leaning towards WxS just because it’s giving Niccori and I love Niccori lol (edit a second after I wrote this: they’re produced by the same producer so that’s probably why I kept drawing parallels between the two lmaooooo)

Awoo- n25 is probably gonna end up getting all the spooky-themed songs tbh but I really do think they’d do well with this one lol

TLDR: If devildom had traditional clothing in the past, what type of region of the world would inspire their traditional clothing for style?

Since it’s been revealed in NightBringer, lesson 14, that before the world was named the Devildom and before the first Demon King, there was a Fairy king that ruled over the land. Which before the Devildom had its buildings and it’s castle, it was first covered by forest (this info was from season 2). So the (future king) demon tricked the Fairy King to drink its blood which made them go into a deep sleep, thus creating the first demon king or so that’s how the legend goes. AND it’s been stated in NB lesson 15 from thirteen, that rumors said that Barbatos has been around before Devildom was even form and Thirteen also mentions that Solomon has said that Barbatos has popped up in ancient documents and he is at times is mention under different names. SO what happens Barbatos was the demon that “poisoned” the Fairy King, and he was the first Demon King but he was somehow kicked out so he decide became a servant to reclaim his throne but ended up getting attached to Diavolo Jk Unless 👀

Since Barbatos is most likely to be around for a long freakin time, Pre-Devildom and Devildom time, what type of style or traditional clothing would he or other demons be wearing? Like we get a statue version of what the Fairy King is supposed to look like and have an idea of what the past is suppose to be wearing, but Ngl it bland 💀 (also do the fairy king sleep upwards???💀)

Alright so a prime example of like ancient civilization traditional period clothing thing for for their over world would be Tears of the Kingdom from Legend of Zelda: (which is also the reason the idea popped into my head lol)

Common features: similar color palette of earthly tones, white pine cones shape with number 2 and 3 and the right image of the steward (the stewards r so cute 🥰) , etc etc

In Conclusion: they have the same feel of the same time, so I was wondering if the Devildom has an “traditional clothes” that was commonly worn when the Devildom was being established, what exactly would it look like? I would love to draw an idea up, especially since Barbatos was possibly around doing the time, and dress up the boys (and thirteen even if she isn’t a demon).

Yes I’m aware that it has been stated and implied in the game that their demon form is the best formal/respectfully outfit they could wear, but I like the idea of the beginning of the Devildom having “traditional clothing” 😩 (also do the outfits change over time when it comes to the demon form or do they remain the same? Like Barbs wearing the same demon outfits since the beginning, I just don’t see it, it’s way to modern💀💀)

However how much I would love to attempt to make “traditional clothing” for the Devildom I have no idea wear to start, like what type of style they would go for, I know their demon form is meant to represent them, so it doesn’t give me much to go off, on making traditional wear and I do want each traditional wear to have their own pizazz, but similar style. So I’ve tried thinking of all the Devildom traditions like holidays to give me a type of theme to go off by, but like most of the time the events would either be RAD related or like human world events.

HOWEVER (the sequel) I think the best vibe or color scheme for the Devildom traditional wear would have to be this outfit from TOTK again Lmao

Sorry for the low quality I couldn’t find a decent quality, it’s called Gloom Resistant Armor if you want to look it up for better quality. But this roughly what I was thinking in color palette however I don’t mind hearing about other ideas as well.

I would gladly appreciate to hear everyone thoughts and ideas on the matter as well, and ideas of style you would think Devildom traditional wear would be (that is not fully kimono or Yukata based but could be use as a reference) or any inspiration from an region of the world or from a different franchise. Information of any “traditional holidays” that is canon in Obey me is welcomed, any type of information little or small is always welcomed, and if you wish to talk about this subject with me feel free to DM if you want. 😘

1 How do you draw things that are usually labeled "i've never drawn it before or i don't know how to draw it?" like do you look at a reference of it (i mean, how else are you gonna draw it) but like im talking complex things cause i was trying to draw like market stalls and i just had no clue how to draw it while looking at, it doesn't have to be perfect i just couldn't do it so i gave it up. And when you draw it do you usually have an idea in your head how it's gonna be facing which direction or do you just draw the characters then the item they are interacting with or the item/object first?

2 Second question, when do you think a outfit or hair change should happen? i think hair changes are gonna happen with the outfit sometimes but i really love outfit changes and you do those i was wondering what you think is best time? cause i've seen you have outfit changes in a day pass in the story and new outfit but i've also seen you change outfits when new arks happen so i was wondering when do you think are the best times for that?

i draw it badly 🤣 but really, the answer is just practice. if it looks weird, draw it again. look at it and think 'well why is this going wrong, what looks weird' and then grab a new piece of paper and start completely over. try it from another point of view.

if it's a market stall that isn't integral to the story, just a background piece, i'm not going to care much about it, because the reader probably won't either. as long as its not bad enough to actually draw the eye there, i call it good. done is better than perfect, as they say.

2nd part of that question: i do have an idea in my head of how i want the panels to look. if that's not working though, i change it.

i usually place my characters first. unless its an establishing shot where the background is the most important thing, or far away shot, then characters may go in afterwards. i guess if the panel is mostly background, background first. if the panel is mostly character, character first. that's how i generally do it. just try and do it in the way that makes it easiest. if it's not working out one way, try the other.

2 Second question, when do you think a outfit or hair change should happen?

depends on the situation the character is in. chaar wears her uniform most of the time, so she doesn't get many changes. most everyone else would have access to other clothing, so it feels weird for me to not have them change. when hana and bon are on the run, they don't have extra clothes, so they don't change (except when bon gets hana a new outfit). tera wouldn't have wanted to be nude in the forest, so she just stays in her outfit, and kiigari doesn't care.

so my answer is, if they would have access to clothing and a reason to change (i.e. new day), there's no reason for me not to change their outfit. BUT! that's just me. it's also completely valid to just never change your characters clothes so they have a distinct Look.

Hey can i ask u something? I just finished rereading gintama again and read the final chapter, and kinda stumbled to ur blog. Do you think in the end Takasugi kind of ressuracted, reincarnated, or not? It's really bothering me since he is my fav character and besides lackness that i felt towards his story, his 'death' chapter was delivered... so great, and i dont think ressuraction was needed:( isnt that mean he becomes immortal, again?

Hello! Thank you very much for your question. Sorry for the late reply, I didn't see your message because I was on hiatus due to the end of Gintama lmao

I consider the death scene very beautiful, and it shows that there was a lot of love behind it. In fact, Sorachi himself admitted that he cried while he was drawing it (didn't we all?). However, I think when Takasugi's death is judged only by the scene itself and not also by the context, you miss the forest for the trees. (I previously talked about his death in this post.)

Other people and I have discussed the ending as such, so I’ll now address the circumstances surrounding the end of Gintama before delving into Takasugi’s possible resurrection. I'll try to analyze what happened from other angles, including information both inside and outside of the series, like the fanbook released some time ago.

The prolongued ending

Damn Manabe you could've done a better job. And I blame you for all the Utsuro crap, even if it wasn't your idea, you should've stopped it!

Weekly Shōnen Jump, where Gintama was published, has a system in which it’s announced half a year in advance when a series is about to end, to give it a conclusion in that time. Nevertheless, Sorachi exceeded this deadline, and for three years was unable to finish the series. Faced with this, they moved it to Jump Giga, where he would’ve three extra chapters with more pages and more time as it was a monthly publication. But once again he was unable to finish it and ended up concluding it through the Gintama App.

Even though at the time we all laughed at it, in hindsight the series did suffer from this. Especially if we consider that Sorachi's intention was to defeat Utsuro in Weekly Shōnen Jump and then use the other magazine just to have an epilogue. Even in the last chapter uploaded to the application they made him cut four pages. This denotes that it was a turbulent period, and the end was extremely hasty.

I think what happened in the end was Sorachi's attempt to squeeze ideas into a short amount of time. Takasugi and Zura weren’t present to defeat Utsuro, despite foreshadowing it. Thus, because he didn’t pay enough attention to the relationship between the members of the Shouka Sonjuku, the second part of Silver Soul arc emerged, in which Utsuro/Shouyo was revived and there was a greater focus on the connection between Takasugi and Gintoki. I explain this to emphasize that there wasn’t enough planning to properly develop and conclude what happened to Takasugi.

Takasugi's fate

The last page of the manga referring to what happened to Takasugi strongly suggests that he revived, due to the presence of a newborn baby in one of the dragon holes (places where altana veins sprout), along with dialogue from Sakamoto expressing, essentially, the high probability that Shouyo intervened to save him from death when his corpse was sucked into the terminal’s altana.

However, in the fanbook, a page is dedicated to what happened to Takasugi. Sorachi is frank, revealing he intentionally left it vague to avoid giving a clear answer that might disappoint fans. Also, once again he alludes to the fact that he didn't have more pages to delve into what happened, so he opted to just put more jokes, thinking that was enough.

In said fanbook, Sorachi chats with his former editors about various topics, including Takasugi's death, which he repeatedly avoids talking about. He says it's weird having to explain everything. Nonetheless, the others insist with questions. Among the most important things to salvage, he clarifies Takasugi’d already been sort of dead when he lost Shouyo, and he was just looking for a way to die. He also indicates he doesn't consider that Takasugi needed to be saved because he already was. Instead, he was going for the image of saving the Kiheitai beyond whether or not the baby was Takasugi. This gives me the impression that Sorachi didn’t actually plan to revive him.

I fundamentally disagree with the above point of view. Although I'm not a fan of resurrections, I think his rebirth would make sense, given that it's an element already introduced in the series. Also, I believe it's necessary because it didn't make sense to kill him in the first place, both for consistency on a character level and on a series level.

Now, regarding his possible immortality, I really wish he isn’t. Since it was never explained how that or the altana worked, I can't say for sure. But, considering the dialogue of the master protecting his disciples, it wouldn’t be logical for Shouyo to sentence Takasugi to live an immortal life. What would make the most sense is for Takasugi to live in a normal body with his own memories, experiencing both suffering and happiness, just like everyone else.

Regarding his growth as a normal human or abnormally by the altana, it’s even more difficult to discern. I think if he kept his memories, it would make sense for him to grow at an accelerated rate just like Shouyo, until the altana runs out at some point.

Deliverance from sin?

Since the concept is used on several occasions, I would like to comment on what is meant by “salvation”, a term closely related to religious beliefs. The perspective I’ll take in this part is that of Shinto and Buddhism, the predominant and deeply connected religions of Japan.

In both cases, the most common path after death is reincarnation. In Shinto, the concept of salvation is based upon the belief that all living things have an essence, soul, or spirit known as kami. This lives among us rather than in Heaven or Hell. Buddhists believe in reincarnation after death, known as rebirth. Depending on the actions a person has done during their life (karma), they’re more or less likely to be reborn as a lower or higher being. If one has a multitude of good actions, one is likely to be reborn as a human.

In Buddhism, anyone who understands Buddha's teachings can attain salvation. This includes the understanding that since suffering is a part of life, one must find ways to overcome it. In this regard, I don’t consider that Takasugi has been “saved” in the more traditional sense of the word, quite the contrary. As referenced, the true way to find salvation isn’t to die to stop suffering, but to continue living despite it, as Gintoki has shown.

From now on

Sorachi explains he’s aware that the people who liked Takasugi aren’t as happy with how he ended up, and hints he knows the ending could’ve been better. This, coupled with the fact that he's been inactive for so long after Gintama ended (despite declaring his intentions to start another series) makes me think there might be more Gintama content in the future.

Could it be wishful thinking? Absolutely. But it’s true that Sorachi is interested in making money, and what better than to return to his star series with a question that interests many fans? Maybe it's something he didn't plan on doing. Do I take it? Without a second thought.

The next Gintama festival will take place on March 19, 2023. Perhaps nothing will happen. But hope is the last thing that dies. Being a successful franchise, I think it's very likely that in the near or distant future they’ll release more material showing what happened to Takasugi.

TL;DR: I think it would be more consistent with the character and the series for him to be resurrected, keeping his memories, possibly growth-accelerated by the altana until it finally fades from his body. This would allow him to keep a mortal body. But no one can say for sure what will happen.

Me rushing to get this answered before work because oh my god I love Peacock Feathers and I cannot wait 8 hours to rant about it

Two Gods & A Ghost

This AU is still on the drawing board but here's what I have so far!

Revek's a spirit, killed by a rogue witch. He resides within a forest glade, mostly just keeping watch over the forest's inhabitants. Despite being killed with magic, he still has some to his name, and he uses it to protect others. He's sort of become their unofficial protector

Revek meets Kever and Zee, two deities who are hiding from the world. They're both dressed as local witches, secretly using their shapeshifting and hydrokinesis to help out others. The pair are run out of their village after Zee's shapeshifting is discovered, and they run into Revek while fleeing. Both have varying levels of amnesia- neither remember they're gods, and both have forgotten something valuable to them.

Revek feels bad for them, and despite his hatred for witches, he decides to help them, knowing how shitty memory loss can be. Along the way, he realizes that he's related to the two gods and was one himself. He was the god of nature (tying into Z being the god of fire and Kever the god of water) and was murdered by a witch who took his abilities for themselves. Now determined to both restore his siblings' memories and avenge himself, Revek leaves his forest home.

Again, this is still on the drawing board, but that's what I have so far! I'll have to make full refs for the three in the future

Takeover AU (also called The AU)

I can't go too much into this one because it's shared between me and a mutual who may or may not want to be named. This is also called The AU because it was the first we ever made

Short description is that Revek and Grimm find out the multiverse exists, and two of their counterparts are plotting to takeover. This one is on the list because it has great potential for the drawing style I'm going for

Peacock Feathers

I love to say aus are my favorites but this one is 100% my absolute favorite. It, too, is something I wanna turn into a novel. Also first AU with other characters like Hornet, let's goo-

(The name Peacock Feathers might not make sense at a first glance. It'll be explained in the ramble post)

Grimm's an upbeat, aspiring actor in the process of studying theater. He's also got a love for astronomy. This passion is how he meets Revek, a cynical bookseller. The two starts out as enemies due to their clashing personalities, but soon become rivals, and then friends.

The bookstore Revek works at ends up catching on fire, killing him and a few others. Grimm's initially saddened by this, but later sees Revek's ghost following him and realizes he's one of the only few who can see him. Revek's not too fond on the idea of haunting Grimm but he's got no choice in the matter.

Sometime later, Grimm realizes details about the fire look more and more suspicious, so he investigates with the help of Revek. He encounters Hornet, who can also see Revek, alongside Ghost. Hornet is suspicious of the two, but begrudgingly helps investigate, revealing that the same fire that killed Revek also killed her mother. She, like Grimm, suspects it was no accident

I actually made a small relationship chart thing recently. I'll do a full one eventually, since this one focuses more on Revek

Folklore AU

Finally, the folklore AU! This is more of a concept than a full-fledged au but here we go

Revek is a cryfox; a mythological creature from the folklore of the people in my area. They're really obscure, but they're essentially shapeshifting foxes with the ability to steal voices. They usually ransom these voices back, and most commonly use the cries of children to lure in new voices. He takes care of his sister, Starsi. Grimm is among the townsfolk, mostly just vibing.

Grimm wanders into the forest that borders his village and is lured in by Revek. Revek is initially aggressive, but pauses when he sees Grimm's attire. He's attempted to wander into town but his disguise isn't perfect, so he's usually unsuccessful. He's trying to find a nice home for him and Starsi where they won't have to use their voice-stealing for survival and aren't threatened by traps. Grimm, ignorant to Revek's true nature, thinks he's just lost and agrees to help Revek find a place.

Grimm does discover Revek's identity, but sees how desperate they are in finding their sister a home and reluctantly agrees to continue helping. Revek rarely uses his abilities anyways, hating doing so. He manages to secure a small home with Grimm's help and is elated, but upon returning to retrieve his sister and their belongings, is horrified to find out she's been snatched by hunters. In an act of pure rage, Revek lures Brumm into the forest and steals his voice, using it as blackmail against Grimm. Grimm reluctantly helps Revek in searching for his sister

I made an art of Revek a little while back but it's not totally accurate so take it with a grain of salt
