From a wolqotd on twitter: “Tell me about a time when your WoL/OC experienced a moment of culture shock. Big or small, good or bad... what was it? How did it affect them?”
Answering this one in some detail for all three of my wols, so under a cut it goes:
Aoife:
Arriving to the Crystarium and seeing - for the first time in her life - other viera milling around and going about their daily lives was a huge shock to her. She'd never had that before, the experience of seeing people like her as a regular part of a city.
I go back and forth on whether to account for the existence of other players in her lore because in the game itself all the major cities are chock full of viera players, but i think it hits harder if the Crystarium was her first time seeing viera so commonplace. Until that point she'd only met Fran (and Banri, but his family were the only viera in Kugane, so they weren’t exactly “common” either).
Aoife barely listened to the Exarch's explanation of where everything was in the city; she just kept looking at all the viera around her and thinking “they look like me!!”
T’zekh:
Comparatively, T’zekh’s moment of culture shock was much smaller: it was meeting X’rhun for the first time and learning the man was a native of Ala Mhigo. Having been taught that Ala Mhigans were all tall, burly, and warlike, T’zekh could hardly believe that someone as lithe and graceful as X’rhun could be Ala Mhigan. It was the start of unlearning all the harmful things his mother and village had taught him about their old enemies.
Banri:
Banri’s arrival to Eorzea was, as one might expect, his culture shock moment. Having been born and raised in Hingashi it was hard for him to adjust to the various idiosyncrasies in places like Gridania and Ul’dah: locations with hard-to-pronounce names, unfamiliar climate & clothing, merchants getting startled when he bowed to them, etc. But perhaps the biggest shock was getting to the Silver Bazaar and discovering that it was exactly as Aoife had told him: a samurai-themed kitschy tourist trap. He couldn’t help but laugh to see the various ways Eorzeans tried to reverse-engineer Hingan dress and culture based on hearsay and travelogues, as it reminded him of certain Eorzean fads in Kugane.

I've tried to get into the habit of drawing at least one small thing each day.
I only started yesterday but I'm trying to keep my motivation up by posting more regularly at the same time.
So here are my first two pieces.
The "Nurse" is just a cute little character design I came up with in school and that I had to draw.
The second one is a little piece of Fanart for the Game Fran Bow. Since I saw a lets play of it for the first time it's been one of my favourite games and I love drawing Fran and the many variations of Kamalas!
He doesn't play video games too often so he appreciates something that is easy to jump in and out, something where you don't have to pay too much attention
Appreciates games with brighter colors and more lighthearted themes. Life as a vigilante is dark enough, why continue that in a medium he's using for escapism?
Also likes series that offer multiplayer options, this way he can enjoy games with family
His absolute favorite game is Mario Kart, but he also enjoys other Mario games. He rarely strays far from this franchise
Mostly he prefers Mario games because they're a very accessible franchise, any gamer (and even non gamers) can enjoy them
Barbara Gordon
What doesn't Babs play?
If you want game recommendations she's your go to
Babs and Damian bonded over Pokémon
Tim, Babs, and Cass all bond by talking about the latest games they've been playing
Recently Babs has been enjoying Red Dead Redemption and the latest Spiderman game
She also restarted Skyrim not too long ago and has been brushing up on the lore
But the one game that Babs never forgets is Animal Crossing, her islands are incredible (she has three different islands, she visits each one daily)
Also if you ever get the chance to play Minecraft with Babs, do. Her servers are iconic
Jason Todd
Jason also isn't super into video games, he'd much rather spend his time reading
He does occasionally play Left 4 Dead and CoD with Duke and he enjoys that
He has broken several controllers playing Smash Bros with the fam
Tim Drake
He's still waiting on the next Elder Scrolls game and honestly is considering buying the company to get that shit rolling
Although with how busy his schedule is all he's had time to play recently is Tetris, which is fun, but... not enough
Because of this he, Cass, and Babs decided to make a gaming club
Basically they meet up at least once a month and chill and play video games
They even recently expanded it to include board games (Monopoly is banned)
Currently his favorite game is Hollow Knight, he loves it's aesthetic
Cassandra Cain
Most people are shocked to realize that she really loves video games
She really likes games that have interesting designs like Fran Bow, Hollow Knight, and A Short Hike
Cass' favorite thing is to share game recommendations with Babs and Tim
She also likes just hanging out and playing with them, even if everyone's playing a different game
Right now Cass is obsessed with Spiritfarer, she fell in love with the style and storyline
Tim bought her a little mushroom plush that looks like a character from Spiritfarer and Cass absolutely adores it
Duke Thomas
Duke doesn't focus as much on aesthetic or storyline like Cass and Tim, he appreciates something with action
He really likes Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead II, CoD, and most of the Resident Evil games
He really liked Assassin's Creed 2 but couldn't really get into the others as much. Babs is still trying to change that
Babs love of the 2018 Spider-Man game has rubbed off on him
Duke is always down for Mario Kart or Smash Bros
Stephanie Brown
She plays Sims and the Untitled Goose game
Maybe she plays other games??? But she doesn't talk about any others
She will constantly brag about her 'gamer skills' to Tim, by this she means that she only set her mac n' cheese on fire and killed her sim once
This is mostly to horrify Tim
Damian Wayne
Barbara bought him a switch and Pokémon shield for his birthday, bc he called video games pointless so she splurged just to prove him wrong
Welp it worked
Damian is obsessed with Pokémon now
He and Babs talk about it constantly and she's even started buying him the cards and plushies
He will NEVER admit that he absolute adores his charizard plush, but he does
Charizard is his favorite, but Gengar is a close runner up
hellooo! just your daily dose of tsuki headcanons bc i really love him
okay okay i really didn’t wanna start this off on a bleak note but poor boy has some real self esteem issues, so he probably takes the praises from the team to heart yet he doesn’t really want to express that he in fact needs that praise
he’s watched all the Jurassic park movies over 10 times, and still acts shocked when he sees the ending
would really have a sweet tooth?? like would rather eat sugar than any other food??
i already know he would write in cursive
i bet sometimes he just has his headphones on noise cancelling to block out everyone’s bullshit
would wear pore strips and then be extremely disgusted by the results, like i lowkey feel bad for the porestrip just getting shit on by tsukki
would obsessively watch reality TV jus for the drama and fights
i feel like he’s severely blind without his glasses, like he’s never had them off for like more than 10 seconds unless he’s sleeping
strong emetaphobia vibes from him
honestly he also gives me sheldon cooper vibes
truely enjoys going to aquariums. like i feel like aquariums to him are just so relaxing and a great way to clear your mind. zoos are too loud and messy, and aquariums are just beautiful and quiet and calming
he would take his s/o on a date there
i feel like he knows how to play piano, or some form of instrument
he’s clearly not to interested in art, so i feel like music is his fourte of art
music helps him feel. that’s all i have to say
i can smell daddy issues from a mile away (from self experience) and this boy is the epitome of it
more of a winter person than a summer person
has kind of this unspoken bond with bugs? like if he sees a butterfly or a beetle, he’d usually just observe the way it acts and where it goes
a reddit god
a very deep sleeper, like he’d sleep on his back so his dreams would be pretty intense
minus the 3 times he got sleep paralysis and thought he was dying
jumpscares don’t really phase him, so scary games aren’t really worth playing
likes plot-riddled games or puzzle games like fran bow
i almost know he listens to lofi or at least soft music remixes
hates procrastinating, like he deeply despises people who put it off till later, like why would you put that stress on yourself when you have the ability to do it now? (this kinda hurt me ow)

The first thing that hit Rory Gilmore when she woke up was an overwhelming sense of vertigo.
The migraine was encroaching on the borders of her skull soon followed.
Where was she?
(The Morning After, Gilmore Girls, post series, Rory/Jess, or what happens when two not-quite-stepcousins hook up and everyone in Stars Hollow debates whether they should be encouraging this or not)
The first time they tried a real relationship again, it was a disaster.
He hadn't seen or talked to her for five years. Part of him regretted that a little, but she did say no, and he knew he had to start fresh if he was going to make any sort of clean break from the family legacy that had claimed him long before he was born.
(The Dynastic Plan, Gilmore Girls, AYITL era, Rory/Logan, or Logan explains to us why he could not get his shit together with Rory during AYITL)
Luke first noticed that something was amiss when he picked April up from the airport.
It was the middle of spring and she was wearing a turtleneck, a baseball cap, and sunglasses. When he asked her about it, she shrugged and claimed she thought that Connecticut was having a late winter spell, which didn’t sound right to him at all.
(The Cactus Incident, Gilmore Girls, post-series, in which Luke learns about the avian misadventures of one of his offspring)
“This has gotten completely out of control.”
Lorelai glanced up at her husband from where she was sequestered at her usual table by the window, surrounded by her laptop, piles of eclipse glasses in various colors, assorted boxes and tubes sprinkled in glitter and confetti, and a pile of streamers that had half fallen to the floor.
“This is a major celestial event, Luke”, Lorelai insisted. “A once in a lifetime opportunity to escape the daily drudgery of life to celebrate standing in the middle of the street for two hours and looking at the sky while we are treated to the spectacle of the universe pretending to usher in the doomsday a way too significant portion of the population are eagerly anticipating at any given moment –“
Luke put up his hand. “I get it.”
(A Convergence of Fancies, Gilmore Girls, Rory/Jess overtones I guess, post-AYITL, or Stars Hollow celebrates the 2017 solar eclipse, Rory is a sleep deprived new mom, and Lorelai is concerned because her family is watching too much Game of Thrones, aka the most chaotic thing I have ever written and I'm sorry)
Richard Lucas Gilmore’s second Independence Day celebration was turning out to be a lot better than his first.
For one thing, he was actually awake for it.
Rory’s pregnancy had stretched a week and a half past its original due date, leading to the delivery of her squalling bundle of joy on a humid June morning after fifteen hours of labor.
(Independence, Gilmore Girls, post-AYITL, in which Luke and Lorelai celebrate Independence Day with their combined offspring and toddler grandson and Lorelai confronts her impending empty nest syndrome)
Lorelai had thought that sending Rory off into the adult world would make her feel like her heart was being ripped out of her chest.
She had been dreading it for days, weeks, maybe even years. Despite what everyone had told her when she was a newly knocked-up teenager, she still felt that those first eighteen years raising Rory as she grew up herself had been the easy part.
(Full Circle, Gilmore Girls, post-series, in which Lorelai and Rory go through the same major milestones at the same time)
The fall of 2017 was turning out to be quite a revelation for Lorelai Gilmore-Danes.
She had never loved fall quite as much as she loved winter. Sure, there was the crispness wrought by the change of seasons and the concurrent excuse to shop for brightly colored sweaters and boots.
(The Grandparents, Gilmore Girls, Luke/Lorelai, post-AYITL, or Rory's love triangle and parenting woes as seen through Luke and Lorelai's eyes)
Few enterprises seemed to be designed with a specific target in mind quite as much as Facebook was for Lorelai Gilmore.
It caught her a little by surprise. Sure, she knew the basics of using a computer to run her business and control her finances. She could be disciplined and organized when she absolutely needed to be, and there was little use in clinging to outdated technology.
(Boundaries, Gilmore Girls, Luke/Lorelai, post-AYITL, or Luke and Lorelai try to rebuild their relationship and are very angsty about it)
Luke and Lorelai's third Valentines Day as a married couple started in the usual way.
It was usually their tradition to spend the holiday at home, but this year they had departed for Luke's cabin on the lake to spend a few days by themselves before the rest of the family joined them on Sunday. It was a beloved, time-honored tradition between the two of them to devote this day to each other to celebrate with their own brand of fanfare. Their adult children knew to stay very far away from them during this time.
(A Season of Peace, Luke/Lorelai and Rory/Logan, post-AYITL, in which Luke and Lorelai spend a weekend in the snow with their brood and we get an update on the younger generations's relationship statuses)
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
She turned to face me. Gap-mouthed. Shocked. Disappointed. Humiliated.
This was not how I planned to share this news.
(A Simple Twist of Fate, Gilmore Girls, AU but fairly canon adjacent, in which Jess is Rory's baby daddy and Rory discovers that he has not exactly been solely pining for her in the years they were apart)
Jess didn't exactly intend to introduce his daughter to professional sports in this manner.
For the most part, he and Rory weren't quite the stereotypical thirtysomething hipster couple that they sometimes appeared to be. Sure, Rory was still occasionally breast-feeding after seven and a half months, and you could find quinoa and kimchi in their fridge stocked next to the baby food and hoagies.
(Home, post-AYITL, Rory/Jess, a "fast forward" of ASTOF in which Rory and Jess raise their daughter in Philadelphia and try to avoid admitting that they are no longer hip)
Lorelai Gilmore's journey to becoming an active participant in Stars Hollow town life was a bumpy one.
She stepped off of the bus in Stars Hollow a few months after her eighteenth birthday, freshly divorced and clutching her almost two-year-old daughter by the hand, determined to talk herself into whatever opportunity presented itself to her. She wasn't able to work on her charms on Taylor Doose at the grocery store, or Fran Weston at the bakery, but William Danes at the hardware store gave her directions to the inn at the outskirts of town and an offer to work the counter at his store if things didn't work out.
(Beginnings, Gilmore Girls, pre-series/AU, Luke/Lorelai, in which Lorelai and Luke's parenting situations are reversed: she and Christopher are divorced and he is involved in Rory's life but Luke is raising April by himself after Anna flaked out, and they start to bond)
Lorelai Gilmore Danes didn't expect to have empty nest syndrome hit her quite like this.
She'd spent much of her adult life – even long before she was technically an adult – tethered to Rory's side and not regretting a second of it. Then Rory was grown up and off exploring the world, and she was settled down with Luke in their unconventional but happily domestic manner.
(Glimpses Through the Looking Glass, Gilmore Girls, drabble series that goes all over the place based on #NationalFillInTheBlankDay)
Ted and Robin's seemingly long-awaited reconciliation lasted just short of six months.
Five months, three weeks, and two days, to be exact. Not that anyone was counting, least of all Robin.
(Making It Easy, How I Met Your Mother, Barney/Robin, post-series, in which Robin figures out that dating a widowed Ted is actually a very bad idea)
In the end, it was decided that the best way to resolve the battle for the Iron Throne was to dissolve it completely.
It had been a savage war, far more savage than any of its players had fought up to this point. Euron and Cersei were dead.
(The Calm, Game of Thrones, post-series but written halfway through season 8 so it doesn't include any of the stuff that people hate, in which I come up with a solution to the Jonerys dilemma that no one liked but it was still better than canon)
Summer finally bloomed beyond the wall five years after Jon Snow had crossed it for the last time.
Sometimes it seemed to him that everything before those five years was nothing more than a half-remembered dream. He had braced for his departure for the wall half-hopeful: at least this grand march towards kingship, the burden of unwanted responsibilities, the dread in his chest as he wondered if he would survive to the end of the latest war was over.
(After, Game of Thrones, post-series, Jon/Tormund, or in which Jon Snow is living happily ever after beyond the wall with his ginger, his dog, and a family of his own because I am in charge and I say so)
“You’re still shit at that, you know,” Tormund whispered in Jon’s ear.
Magritte snickered from the other corner of the main room of their cabin where she was roughhousing with Ghost. Alsi sighed beside her, picking up her bow from where it was lying beside her and inspecting it for flaws.
(The Line, Game of Thrones, post-series, Jon/Tormund, in which Jon is still living happily ever after but takes his family to visit Queen Sansa)
The images solidified in Jaime’s mind as he made his way through the streets.
Charred skeletons. Screaming children. Rampaging soldiers. Blood. Smoke. Mangled limbs. Chaos. He couldn’t keep any of it straight.
(The Lion and the Snow - Snapshots, Game of Thrones, AU, Jaime/Brienne, in which Jon is King, Jaime is the Hand Without A Hand, Brienne is the Lady Commander of the Kingsguard, they are all disasters, and I am not telling this story in order)
Tormund didn’t intend to get seriously involved with anyone when he moved to King’s Landing.
It had been a rough couple of years. Hell, the entire last decade had been its own special blend of unexpected pleasure and slow, turgid, relentless episodes of confusion and pain. That was adulthood, he supposed. Always one damn thing after another.
(The Dragon Heist, Game of Thrones, modern AU, in which single dad Tormund - Brienne is his baby mama - falls in love with art student Jon Snow and there are lots of coparenting shenanigans)
Patterns: Gee, I like to start these stories off with long, complicated explanations of everyone's relationship status.
Favorites: I guess that would be starting off The Morning After with Rory half-horrified at what she has gotten into. I also like dropping right in on Jonmund domesticity in The Line.
Tagging: @fineosaur, @seethemflying, @aliveanddrunkonsunlight, @janiedean, @angel-deux-writes, @littlerockerao3, @istaricelebelasse, @tormundjonthings, @sdwolfpup, and anyone else who feels like it (apologies if y'all have already been tagged)
Here is a photographic version of a typical short walk I take on most days. This walk is along my driveway, to Jackpine Dr., then return. The walk to the road is about 600 feet, and the return is the same, for about 1,200 feet of walking round trip. I walk very slow, stop often, use my Bic Lighter to clear away any Nitrous Oxide that the terror bastards may be releasing, and listen carefully to the surrounding area. My life depends on being extremely vigilant on this walk. I go to the mailboxes almost daily, and that adds another one hundred or so feet of distance to the short walk.
I am attacked in some way, each time I take this walk, and today was no different. Today, someone at the Chapman terror cell at 3701 Russell Road, my neighbor to the West, there was a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Josephine County Court Judge Patrick Wolke, who appeared to be releasing nitrous oxide gas from a storage shed, while pretending to do some maintenance on an inflatable boat that is parked at that storage building at the Chapman terror cell on Russell. That man, Pat Wolke, was also working with the Grants Pass Daily Courier Newspaper terror cell, who drove past me while on this walk on Jackpine. At least one terror soldier was ignited and launched away from the 520 Jackpine residence of someone I don’t have any information about, other than “Mystery Pot Grower Lady”, a single woman who is visited by Richard Branson on occasion, and grows marijuana at 520.
The photo above:
Day four of the enchiladas and cheese placed there on the bank of the creek remains untouched by forest animals. There are no insects on the food either, in four days on a creek bank, in Oregon.
The plate of enchiladas is in a place where wildlife was once diverse and plentiful.
Directly forward, but out of viewing range about 250 feet ahead, is where Judge Patrick Wolke is there, stalking me, and releasing nitrous oxide airborne gas so that I might stumble, or otherwise to make me an easy target. The assassin at 520, the one that launched away, was directly behind me at that point, about 300 feet away,
That is an extended view of the creek area near the corner of my house.
The photo above shows the condition of the sky at about 3:15 pm today. The photo is looking South West.
Farther along my walk, I have to pass by this area, where the Monroe Offensive Surveillance Travel Trailer has been parked for about two years, with someone inside all of the time who watches everything I do, has access to listening devices that they have placed around my home, under my front porch, and video cameras that are pointed at my house, and various places at my property. There is a Sti_gray surveilla_ce u_it there as well.
(The terror bastards have tur_ed off my letter that comes after M and before O again, intermitta_tly)
The offe_sive Mo_roe Surveilla_ce Travel Trailer is there partially be_eath that pole bar_ there, a_d the Marijua_a they grow for SAG Musicai_s is just there _ear the fro_t part of that trailer. There are four to six large pla_ts there.
The photo above, is my driveway, and that is my gate there. The Monroe terror cell is just to the left on the other side of the fence. The odor of rotting flesh has been persistent and, overwhelming, thick, saturating the air in that area for about three weeks, and is sometimes accompanied by the odor of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde has an odor that is not terribly unpleasant, smells nearly the same as a well stocked clothing store smells. If you know what JC Penny Clothing department smells like, then you know what formaldehyde smells like.
This area is just past my gate along my walk. The photo above is to the left of my driveway at the Monroe pond area. That is the small pond there, and there are a number of Blu-Tooth speakers hidden around that area. The speakers are used not for music, but to play sounds, recorded conversations of people, and bird calls, among other sounds, and it’s all done as a means to scare me, or to make me choose to take a different route on my walk. If I hear a conversation there, I don’t want to pass by, because they always shoot at me, but often, there is a conversation happening, but there is no one there, just the speakers are playing the sounds of the Monroe’s having a conversation.
The photo above, is looking back onto my driveway from Jackpine. You can see the gate there, and the wooded area to the left is my front yard. There are no more birds, or other small forest animals in those woods anymore, they have all been killed, or driven away from extensive release of poison gasses such as Nitrous Oxide and Medazolam over a long period of time. Many years of daily gas attacks here.
The photo above, is looking North on Jackpine, from the end of my driveway. There is a mysterious trailer that was parked there over the past few days, and is still there. That trailer is in front of Chartrand 376 terror cell, and appears to also be in front of Monroe 434 somewhat.
The photo above, is looking South on Jackpine. Those are the mailboxes there where that neighborhood watch sign is at on the left. The Grants Pass Daily Courier Delivery terror soldier went to the end of the road just before I took this photo, to the Fran Taylor terror cell at 600 Jackpine, I declined to take a photo, for safty sake, knowing that Pat Wolke and that other terror soldier at 520 were stalking me and releasing Nitrous gas, I chose to keep my hands free, not use the camera as the GPDC terror car went past.
On the way back to my house, I took another photo of where the Monroe Offensive Surveillance Travel Trailer is at. That pole barn is a place where the cross bow assassins hide, waiting for me to pass by on my walk to the mail box. The trailer is parked there under that pole barn. I am on driveway as I pass by.
The photo above shows another view of the Monroe Offensive Travel Trailer and marijuana area. From there, the Monroe’s have a direct line of sight to my front door, and the path I walk. That tree there is the one that Deitrick’s and Monroe used cables and big earth moving equipment to pull it down with, into my driveway. I cannot get anywhere near that tree to clear it away with a saw... the Monroe’s have been waiting for me to clear that big ass corona tree from my driveway so they can shoot me while I am busy doing that.
The photo above is another view of that same area where the Monroe offensive trailer is at, and the Big Ass Corona Tree they blocked my driveway with. The tree is more then 150 feet long, is very big, and is blocking clear access to my driveway.
