When I think of musical genres associated with standard fantasy species, it's probably elf rock and orc metal, but gnome music is definitely gnomecore. Gnomes just feel like they'd be about -core.

Scrolling across my dash I came across the most gorgeous Dark Urge by @absansombre, I just had to draw her. Here's the Ref & Inspiration post here. It was such a treat to draw Tiziri, thank so you much for sharing pics of her online!

The music in that Dorym moment was a PAID ACTOR. The lead up with the violin right to “you don’t have to save everyone” then EXACTLY after that is said it drops into a beautiful piano motif as Orym cries????? As someone who loves soundtracks behind beautiful moments, OH MY GOD

Dungeonsynth is some strange music. Inspired by synth pioneers and early videogame music, the result is usually spacious, atmospheric electronic music that, despite its ambiance, often seems surprisingly punishing, at least in large doses. Perhaps that is a symptom of its origins among makers of black metal. Regardless, the idea of lo-fi electronic music for dungeon crawling remains a growing scene.
I primarily think of it as a cassette tape scene, thanks to my low key devotion to tape label @heimat_der_katastrophe (I mainly stick to HDK and my Neptune Tower records because I know they aren’t fascists, which I can’t say for certain about a lot of other dungeonsynth, a pitfall of the scene at large that is deeply exhausting). I don’t have a cassette player, but I do have a record player, so when HDK issued the first Kobold album on vinyl I leaped at it. I love Kobold. I love this album in particular. I love the art (which riffs on Bob Maurus’ art for BSOLO: The Ghost of Lion Castle). The original cassette came with a little dungeon map and encounter booklet, but the record came packed with a much fuller retro-styled module.
Everything about it is great. Try and snag a copy if you can find one. Oh, and HDK: do Komorg next?

…Turns out Burrow’s End was not about cute magic stoats trying to find a new home, but SCIENCE FICTION HORROR that asks the question:
“What if the rats of Nimh just brutally murdered the humans and took over their lab?”
And the answer to that question is an Animal Farm dystopia featuring horrifying mutated creatures but really the story is a heartwrenching drama about a family trying to survive in the post-apocalypse and how they deal with their new reality and the traumas they’ve endured and it’s about what it means to be a parent and a child and an individual person within a family group and how the random horrors we endure by virtue of living lives as small insignificant creatures in our random universe can fuck us up and lead to intergenerational hurt and how it’s up to us to be more open and compassionate towards eachother if we ever want to make things better and heal those wounds but also everyone is a stoat

i keep seeing people say "oh eddie would be x in a modern au" "eddie would be y in a modern au" and im ???
a modern day eddie would still be a metalhead dnd player who's probably read the LoTR triology more than once; he'd just also own all the movies and know a bunch of useless trivia about the actual filming and production.
he'd probably still be a drug dealer, still gets held back a year in high school, probably has a second hand phone with a cracked screen that he only uses to listen to music, skips class because his teachers don't like him, runs a dnd club either in the drama room or the art room, either forges notes to get out of phys ed or just doesn't show up, he strikes me as someone who enjoys the process of burning music onto cd's so he probably has a bunch of mixtapes in his glove box and steve would hate driving with him bc his car wouldn't have an AUX port or anything so he'd either have to listen to the radio or eddie's music
a modern day eddie would still be eddie, he'd just have the luck of getting to experience all the nerdy shit that comes out after the 80's and also modern technology

regular D&D game except every time I’m about to roll a d20, I break into a full rendition of “Luck Be A Lady” from the 1950 musical Guys and Dolls, complete with choreography (backup singing from other players optional)

When the choir starts singing in Latin, you know you're in trouble. Does anyone do this in their D&D / TTRPG games?
