I think the only right way for Damian to become Batman is much slower than everyone thinks

Just image: Damian in the future as a veterinary student, slowly distancing himself from the world of vigilantes and Bruce, an old man, with aching and tired bones, who has suffered with chronic pain for years (you'll have to take chronic pain Bruce Wayne and Jason Todd headcanon from my cold dead hands) getting ready to go on patrol once again. There are a series of murders happening and he wants to investigate

And Damian goes into the cave (maybe to take care of Batcow) and see the scene. He feels sorry for his father, Bruce's love for Gotham cursed him and now Gotham was slowly killing him. Then Damian calmly approaches and gently pushes his father into the chair. And in a tired voice Damian says:

“Leave this to me today, father, take your medicine and rest.” "No, Damian. You have to go to college today"

"Gotham is my city too, they're my people too...and they still need Batman"

Damian also knows that Dick has his own city to worry about; that Jason is busy on some mission around the world; that Steph is too tired for this; that Tim is too attached to the Robin mantle for that; that Duke recently had a child with his wife; that Cassandra is now a renowned ballet teacher and Damian doesn't want to get in the way of his siblings' lifes. He knows that if he asked, someone would accept, but everyone is so happy now, it took so long for them to reach that moment... Damian then decides to sacrifice himself that night.

Only that night

He will becomes Batman just that night, so his father can rest, he makes it clear that he will only do it that night

"Don't get used to it, father, it's just for today"

But that news spreads like fire. Even Jon and the other heroes start to inform Damian about things that happen (Batman still is very important in the Justice League) and Damian? Damian ignores

He goes through the messages, emails and claims he only did it once and never again. He forwards everything to Bruce, not wanting to get more involved than is convenient

but then the next month, Bruce has another rough night and Damian takes up the mantle again. This becomes a strange habit between the two of them, slowly and silence, one night a week... two nights a week...

The biggest change happens when Bruce is seriously injured fighting someone much stronger (and younger) in the sewers of Gotham. Damian had an important test at college and Bruce didn't want to call him, it wasn't fair to push that on Damian when the boy made it clear that he didn't want the mantle. So Bruce lies there for hours, in the midst of pain and dirt trying to reorganize his mind until Damian appears, the youngest son noticed that his father hadn't come home yet so he got worried and went after him.

Damian and Bruce open a pact that night, Bruce would stay in the cave supervising and Damian would work in the field

This works very well at first but soon Damian comes home to see his father sleeping, and it becomes a routine. Damian is happy that his father trusts him enough to sleep while his son is on patrol, that's good

the truth only shocks Damian when at a league meeting Jon refers to him as Batman, not Robin or Damian, no. Batman. The Batman.

and even though many people believe that he became Batman out of neopotism, the truth is much more different and sad than that. He became Batman through his own choices and effort, to protect his tired father and also to protect Gotham. Because, in the end, Damian learned to love Gotham the same way Bruce loved it.

Note: I love imagining this old Bruce slowly realizing how unfair he was to Damian his early days, how Bruce only saw Damian as a spoiled brat, a monster covered in blood and mud instead of helping him like Dick, Alfred and Steph did . I love imagining old Bruce kicking himself for not noticing Damian's gentle, compassionate side sooner. Side that was underneath all the anger, dirt and trauma

And also Bruce realizing that Damian is as gentle to people as Talia was in the past Note²: I'm not trying to villainize Bruce and sanctify Damian; Damian did a lot of things, but he was a ten year old child who didn't know how to deal with the world (+brainwashed by a cult) and Bruce was a grown ass man who had been dealing with traumatized people for many years, Bruce should have been more patient with Damian but you still have time now Bruce, you can do it. I believe on you, you can still be a good father

Most of them only have crushed on the bats because their all to scared to confess to them (Damian and Jon have some type of puppy love going on and Jon just thinks of Damian as his best friend and doesn't understand why he likes Damian so much and why kon keeps bringing him to talk about Damian with Kons friends)

And every once in a while whatever girl or man that likes Bruce ends up joining them during this time, I fully think the bats would never know about this because all of them already know the bats techniques and can clearly dodge them.

I don't wanna complain about what other people love to them but I ended up reading New Order yesterday after seeing your recommendations and... Honestly, I didn't vibe with it and I wanted to see what you think? The entire premise seems flawed to use Dick of all people for (and his attitude through it is just... way beyond regular asshole Grayson), I'm tired of DC giving Kory children but taking her away from them, yet another "let's ruin Dick and Kory" adventure is going on and it's just... Rushed. Especially the ending where it pulls a teen movie that's like "DAVE ENDED UP MAJORING IN LAW AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND BECAME A JUDGE" and seems to just skip over so, so much interesting stuff that way.

HOWEVER. I also want to say I can't entirely hate the comic because the dialogue is pretty solid at most points and Jake really is an amazing character with such a great heart. I honestly like him more than Jon Kent.

Honestly I really loved the comic but a couple points you brought up are hitting me hard. The first being Kori. It's getting on my nerves how DC for some reason keeps breaking up Dick and Kori after they've been married and for what? I get why here but in Mar'i's comic? There's literally no reason!!

Secondly I don't believe Kori would just abandon her kid. She gave birth to him, she loves him. Why on earth would she just leave him? Maybe it's because it's DC and they really need to break up Dick and Kori because "dick and barbara are the dream team." Puh-lease.

However I did think it made sense for Dick to be at the center of it all. Dick has always been accepting of superpowers and he even said "I like a woman who break a battleship with her bare hands" when talking about Kori. Which says a lot about what he thinks. But I also believe he would he would eradicate them for one reason - superpowers killed Bruce. And he loves his father.

He also did it to save the world and it's unarguable that he did and the people loved him for it. He has the capability to both destroy the league and rebuild the world and this comic is just proving that which is why I don't think there's anything wrong with Dick.

As for his stubbornness, maybe! Honestly at this point I'll accept anything about any character unless it's wildly inaccurate. I don't know if Dick is a jerk or not because my impression of his jerk levels have been obliterated by the Cassandra Batgirl comics. After reading that literally everything else seems normal. I am struggling so hard to understand what's going on with Dick in those comics. Is it bad writing? Is it the writer? What was he facing during that time that made his act like that? What am I missing? I'm still reeling from that so I'm completely out of it lol. Still too flabbergasted to comprehend so you may be right but my mind has just accepted almost every version of Dick now as long as he stays true to his motivations and acts reasonably.

I really did like the ending but totally understand what you mean. I guess it's because the author didn't want to drag it out and turn it into a whole 500 issue comic so he skipped to the end.

I love, love, LOVE the comic for Jake! Jake and Dick's relationship?? I-I'm ENTHUSED!!! They have the best father and son relationship ever and I'm never getting over the two of them. I like him better than Jon too and Jon's amazing! Jake's just absolutely fantastic!! The best, best, BEST kid ever.

So generally I love the comic but my biggest point of contention is separating Dick and Kori for no reason. Also whatever's going on with Kate was far more distracting than Dick for me lol. But I liked the art and dialogue too and overall I really enjoyed it. Liking comics is just a matter of preference after all ;)

13 -A Very Potter Senior Year

ok ok, i get it. it's part of the potter trilogy of starkid. something about it, however, just didn't make it stand out. it isn't at the bottom because i didn't like it, it's down here because i didn't like it AS MUCH as the others.

12 -A Very Potter Sequal

once again; a good fucking musical, just didn't stand out as much as others did to me.

11 - Ani

this musical was funny as hell and i'm always a sucker for shows that nick lang acts in. however, while i know that it's a parody plot, i never could be interested in star wars, no matter how hard i tried. while it was funny, and i found it to be interesting, i didn't laugh as hard as some people because i didn't understand some of the jokes made about the show. this musical is placed at 11th purely because i cannot physically or mentally bring myself to enjoy the star wars franchise.

10 -Firebringer

i love the characters, i love some of the jokes, i love some of the songs. that being said, i feel like this musical was one of the lesser entertaining of the starkid musicals. there were so many things going on that it was hard to understand everything. that being said, the SOLE reason i placed this one above Ani is the line "fuck no, zazz" being a response to zazzalil flirting with clark up at the keyboard.

9 -Twisted

the plot, characters, songs, and HOLY SHIT DYLAN SAUNDERS AS JA'FAR WAS NOT SOMETHING I KNEW THAT I NEEDED. the entire musical was SO GOOD. the only reason this musical is placed at 9th is because i HAVE to place my personal favorites higher.

8 -A Very Potter Musical

while i placed the other two of the potter trilogy at the bottom of the list, avpm is a strong 8th place here. joey richter as ron, lauren lopez as draco, and quirrelmort (along with the entirety of the rest of the show, these were just my favorite parts) all made this musical amazing. a timeless piece.

7 - Me and My Dick

mamd is an interesting one to rank. i didn't really know where to put it, but i stand firm that it's 7th here. the music, the characters, everything. it's a timeless piece that show the absolute talent starkid had even back at the beginning of the company.

6 -Trail To Oregon!

tto was one of my first introductions to starkid. it was definitely one of the most funny in my opinion. i think the song that placed it so high was 'Independence!' purely because of joey (shh no one can tell who my favorite starkid is, it's fine). once again, not placed higher only because my top five CANNOT be beat.

5 -Holy Musical, B@man!

this one is very similar to Ani. i had no clue of the plot, i'm not into the superhero shows. HOWEVER the characters and songs were more captivating, and i think it was funnier (still also a sucker for shows nick lang acts in)

4 -The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals

it was a difficult pick between this one and the next, but i had to place number 4 where it is. tgwdlm was my FIRST introduction to starkid. the music is great, jon matteson slayed (as he always does), ted made me love the spankoffski's before i knew who they were, and the whole show was amazing. once again, only not placed higher because my top 3 cannot be matched.

3 -Black Friday

HOLY SHIT. angela as lex, kendall as hannah and tim, dylan as tom, lauren as linda, JON AS WIGGLY WTF I LOVED THIS MUSICAL SO MUCH HOLY SHIT.

2 -Starship

this one may get me in hot water, but i'm not afraid of controversy if it means i get to be correct. NOT ONLY is JOEY the protagonist, he has kick ass songs, nick lang acts, joe walker as up, krayonder, JUNIOR. THIS MUSICAL IS TOP TIER AND I WILL FIGHT FOR THAT.

I think there's no rhyme or reason to the statements honestly, he's been given like 2, that's definitely not enough to form a proper pattern, only theories

It's another case of how obsessive he is, each statement could plausibly mean nothing more than being fed statements to be kept busy but he's trying to get as much information as possible, even knowing that the conclusions he's coming to are pretty much baseless, I don't think he can help it really, he might be doing it to himself but he's most definitely stuck

I was reading all your dickjay posts and im very fond of the ones where damians in (and i also read the one damijon with jon coming back and AHHHHH)

So i was wondering, what if Damian got hurt at patrón or at school and they call jaydick and these two idiot parents rush back to the manor just to find Jon taking care of Damian and are very endeared but also???? Thats their baby and jon and him have this aura of hearts fluttering around and noooo damian is too young (damian us very much embarrased but doesnt wan jon to leave)

Alright, my first and foremost thought is this being aged-up!Jon with Damian. ANd Dick reaches critical hypocrite levels with the extent in which he's (ʘ言ʘ╬) because he loves Jon, they're cool, but really? Fawning over Dick's son brother? To which Jon would make an awkward quip about Dick fawning after Dick's brother and Dick shifts to Σ(ಠิωಠิ|||) because oh damn, Jon got him there.

Beforehand though, it was a stupid happening on a mission and Damian insists he's fine although he's battered and bruised, but Jon still flies him home and helps Alfred look after him.

Jon and Damian only having all of like, twenty minutes to get cozy with each other before Dick and Jason both burst into the room and Damian clicks his tongue in annoyance because ffs

It's only because of Jon's hearing that Jon leaned back enough that they both look innocent. Which they were. Are. Still, Jon is sat on Damian's bedside and Damian is more bandage than boy at this point and it's a lot for Dick to process.

Jason doesn't bother processing the same things. He's more than aware of Damian's crush on Jon - it's whatever. Who is Jason to judge over 'inappropriate' love interests; it's a complicated situation also it's whatever he raised this boy right he's fine

Anyway, at any and every opportunity, in situations like this Jason will shove Dick out of his way. Nothing will get between a mother nanny brother and his son charge brother.

So Dick goes flying off into a wall while Jason races right on over to Damian.

Jon gets similar treatment. Despite being fully capable of being an immovable object to someone like Jason - Jon still gets sent flying. His strength is nothing compared to that of a fretting mother nanny brother.

Jon catches himself, floating back towards Dick to watch from a distance as Jason nags and frets in that way he does. Gruff, but kind. A very Damian characteristic that Jon wonders sometimes if it was influenced by Jason.

But yeah, Jon watching them with fondness.

Which Dick does, too. Until he realizes Jon is doing the same and Dick's protective tendencies come about.

That Dick recognizes he'll have to apologize to Bruce for forcing him to experience similar feelings of petulance and grief is something he's not looking forward to, but Dick gets it now; he wasn't prepared!

Dick and Jon bonding over how smitten they are for their respective ornery firecrackers though.

And Dick being very intimidating before letting Jon return to Damian's side - just a friendly clap on the shoulder and smile before giving the reminder that Damian is .𖥔 ݁ ˖𝒯𝒽ℯ ℬ𝒶𝒷𝓎.𖥔 ݁ ˖, behave (◠‿◠✿)

Dick has been Jon before don't think he can outsmart Dick for a second; Dick has pulled all the plays he knows (◠‿◠✿)

Damian sinking into his pillows because ffs something strike him down stop it immediately grayson; todd, make him stop

Which Jason does. He beckons Dick over and Dick will never not answer a call from Jason or Damian, so he goes and they sit together and check over Damian's injuries and make sure he's fine/if he needs anything/etc.

But yeah then Jason picks up on Damian wanting to be with his friend/crush, so he excuses Dick and him. Which Dick is affronted at, but Jason scoffs and makes it happen.

There are threats about the door being left open though

Then both Dick and Jason do that eye pointing thing to Jon as they slink out and Damian is composed, but so exasperated and embarrassed in his own way

And Jon adores them regardless of their protective threats and shenanigans. He adores them for how they love Damian, for how they look after and treat him.

He takes his spot beside Damian on Damian's bed again and it's easy, even after all of that.

Until Jon shudders because he feels a foreboding presence he hadn't sensed before? When he suddenly turns his head -- Dick. Peering in through the shadow of the door and Jon actually gets jumpscared and it's soft, but Jon hears it, the quiet huff of Damian's laugh.

Or wait! maybe the Never Let Me Go fic because it ends right before you know that Chopper is about to get his heart broken. Or the John Wick fic about Helen cause you know she dies later and isn't able to keep her promise of helping John leave the business? Ok maybe I do have some angsty endings.

ha what is happy. Maybe the Leverage fic where Eliot has to pretend to be married to Hardison even though they are exes and that one ends with him proposing to Parker and Hardison and them being happy together

Hi! I don't know if you're still answering but I was wondering how a family reunion may pan out in your freedom AU. I get that at least the batfam are not very involved in Damian's life. Do they ever get closer? And what about the supers? And do you think someone tried to convince Jon to not give up on the hero's life?

It's not so much that they're not involved, but more they're scared to be - at least Bruce and Dick. I have it in mind that Jason, Cass and Steph visit somewhat regularly. Tim too, but moreso after Jon moves in, since he's married to Kon. (Tim and Damian get pretty close after their both with their respective Kent boy - thus the TimKon story)

But for Bruce and Dick - Damian got out. Damian got safe, and what kind of people would they be if they dragged him back in? And then even outside of still heroing, their biggest fear, the thing that keeps them up at night, is Damian being targeted or becoming a victim because they were seen with him, or some villain figured out that this random animal shelter director was important to them. So, because of their emotional stuntedness, to keep him safe, they stay away, not realizing that it more or less turned into self-inflicted avoidance. And because Damian isn't much better (though GETTING better) he internalizes it and just...doesn't bother, assuming they don't want him and just doesn't ask. They all text regularly, like any modern family does. Have a group chat and all. But he stopped asking for social calls. In first story timing, Damian is still at the 'don't reach out, they don't want you' stage. At the timing of the Bruce and TimKon stories, he's probably been in therapy and recognizes it for what it is.

(Jason, Cass and Steph recognize this and how dumb their eldest and youngest are, so they make it a point to have regular hangouts with regular Damian doing regular things. They also find these hangouts help their own mental health and push to do it more often. But, just like with Bruce and Dick, they do NOT include Damian in ANYTHING hero. NOTHING. So they basically rebuilt their friendship and love for him from the ground up as 'normal people', and are all better and happier and closer for it. They still sometimes talk cases but not in a 'wanna help?' way, but more a 'you will NOT BELIEVE what happened last week' way.)

As for Jon, I don't think anyone knew he was even considering leaving heroing, so when Damian called that morning post-story, to inform Clark and the Supers where Jon was and what was going on, I think they were hella surprised. They also didn't realize he was struggling so much with being a Super, and any of the losses.

(They ABSOLUTELY knew he was hard crushing on Damian, though. That was the LEAST surprising fact of the whole situation.)

I think the Justice League and Bruce might push for Jon to reconsider, or at least push Clark to make him reconsider, but Clark wouldn't. I think he, Lois and Kon would go to Damian's that day of the story, or in the next few, and just have a heart to heart. (That Damian awkwardly tries to avoid while working from home (to take care of Jon)/being in his own house. He walks the dogs like four times in an hour to not be there.)

But they talk with Jon about what happened, and what he wants. Jon cries, and apologizes for being a failure and letting them down, to which they all deny, and are proud of him for doing something for himself for once. Then they talk about how he's going to transition, and how he's going to coexist with Damian. That's probably the only thing they harp on, Lois and Kon especially, that Damian is NOT his parent, and he's not there to take care of him, as much as Damian would happily do so, because he loves him. They touch on some of the things Jon already had in the story, but a little more in depth. But overall they'd support his decision, and already tease him about when the wedding was going to be.

Damian and Jon would LOVE if their families visited more often. They'd love to play host, love to have people stay for a few days. They're completely domesticated and would just thrive in being the families' 'safe/happy place.'

The return of Mike! And evidence that he was an asshole long before he made a living throwing people off of towers. Knowingly setting Leitners loose into the world crosses the line from negligence into maliciousness.

I'm so interested in the relationship between Jared and Sebastian. Growing up as friends, despite how different they are. Then Jared feels betrayed when Sebastian leaves for uni and grows to resent him. So when he returns, Jared starts terrorising him, including showing up at his place of work, but is very careful to never do anything in front of witnesses. And Sebastian is still weirdly fond of Jared, despite things like getting hit over the back of the head with books.

Yeah, I think they were exes.

Fun fact! On my very first listen this was my biggest scare of the series to date. Don't get me wrong, the recording from Lost Johns' Cave was creepy, but the sudden sound of the door opening ripped me out of the statement, and at this point I hadn't really been paying attention to the meta narrative so it was completely unexpected that anyone would interrupt Jon. Seems silly in hindsight, but it's very ironic that the first thing in the show to actually get my heart pounding with genuine fear was the arrival of Elias.

As I said during Naomi's statement, this listen through has made realise that Elias is just using her compliant as an excuse to make Jon back off from annoying the Lukas family. I mean, I knew he didn't give a shit about Naomi, but I figured he was just doing this to be a dick and make Jon feel like he's being watched.

I still think he's doing both of those things, but the primary motivation is the fact that he got an annoyed phonecall from Peter and he's trying to hold off their next divorce another couple of weeks.

I'm confused by the line 'if Rose kept her equipment in better condition'. Obviously it's a reference to the fact that he's frustrated by needing to use the tape recorder, by why is that Rosie's fault? Wouldn't it be the recording software on the laptops in the Research and Archives departments that isn't working? What does Rosie have to do with that? Is she personally responsible for all the equipment in the Institute? I thought she was Elias's P.A.?

No idea what Jon means by that. But at least he's going to be more lovely! That should be good to see. XD

Another reason why Elias felt the need to come down here in person, because Jon hasn't flagged anything unusual about Martin being gone and maybe he was hoping that if he pointed Jon in the right direction it might lead to a Corruption mark. Unfortunately Jon is too busy enjoying Martin's absence from the Archives to want to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Love that it's so completely out of character for Jared to read a book that Sebastian flags the entire interaction as weird.

Also a great detail that Jared was afriad even as he was captivated by the book. I will never get over the fact that an essential component of being an avatar is fearing your patron. It's so great that serving them grants power but not relief, not escape.

Poor Mrs Hopworth. She's really going through it. But this whole interaction makes me read her as the mother who disapproves of her son's boyfriend. The shifting of blame from Jared to the book to the man who 'gave him' the book, the way she silently throws the book to the ground and only interacts with Sebastian after he mentions Jared by name, her fury and disgust (she actually spits at him). To me it all reads as classic homophobic 'you've perverted my innocent son with your evil queerness' nonsense.

This might be a tenuous connection, but I've actually read Misery since the last time I listened to this episode, and I wonder if the reason it's included here is because all the fucked up stuff that happens to the protagonist's leg in that book is extremely evocative of boneturning.

I'm not so sure since I was so young, but I think the Teen Titans 2003 cartoon was what got me way more invested in the DC world as a kid since I loved watching it so much and still do

24. If you had total control, what you change?

1. Deage Jon back to being a kid, because he should've been allowed to grow up naturally and honestly deserves the character development that he should've gotten before in the past, and also because it was terrible that he just got ripped away from his original fans like that just because Bendis wanted to make him date Saturn girl (instead of finding someone else who was actually her age, since Jon was STILL JUST 10 years old at the time when he had thought of this ship for her, which is very EW!!) and didn't want a kid character getting in the way of his Superman stories because "it's not that fun to include them", which makes no sense, because he was literally so much more likeable and way more interesting as a kid than he is now, because as an adult, now he just feels like a completely different person and a boring character that many old fans just can't see as the real Jon anymore, even if they tried to, since he's more like a stranger now. He's just a plain, younger clone of Clark now with no real personality of his own in him (he doesn't even have his own style!!!)

2. Make Dickkory happen again and leave Dickbabs behind, because that relationship is just a forced one that DC only wants to happen just so that things can only stay in the Batfamily. But Dickkory is the one that actually has real love in it and a much deeper connection in it between the two. Plus those two are always crazy about eachother, way more than Barbara and Dick could ever be for one another. And I would also make baby Mar'i and Jake happen later on in the future too. Also, the trope that always happens with either Dick or Kory abandoning the other and the kids or dying everytime they finally have a family of their own needs to just stop, because they deserve to be happy together already after such a long time and I would make sure that it stays that way too

3. Make Bruce an actual good father, because #1 it is not cool at all and I do not ever enjoy seeing him treat any of his kids horribly, it just only makes me really irritated to see everytime and #2 it does not make sense for who he is actually meant to be as a character. It doesn't matter how many times writers will make it happen in canon, because that just means that they don't actually know him at all and only think he would do it just because "Oh, he's a dark, edgy man who gets angry at everything, so he must be such a horrible Father too.", which is not how he should be. There should never be anything so wrong about letting him be good Dad to his kids. There's always other ways to create a bunch of drama for Batfamily stories, but him being an abusive parent definitely shouldn't be one of them and if some DC writer thinks it is, than that just means they can't really think outside of the box

4. Stop the "Talia is an evil person who loves killing and is also a terrible Mother who tortures her kid with no mercy if they don't do what she wants" trope, because she originally doesn't actually agree with her Fathers ways at all and has always felt uncomfortable with having to be an assassin who takes lives, and another thing about her original character is that she's also a very loving person at heart and would never want to hurt the ones that she loves, so it doesn't make any sense for her to be a cruel and hateful parent who hurts and uses her Son for only whatever she wants

5. Keep the name "Kon". I heard that Conner is getting a new official name change for himself soon in his series, so he's ditching "Kon" now for something else just because "Clark was the one who gave it to him, but he didn't actually choose it himself, so it's not his", but like... HELLO????!! The writer definitely did not read any of his older books at all, because Kon was literally so happy when Clark offered it to him, because he finally felt accepted into the Superfamily that way and even cried tears of joy from it too if I remember correctly, so what the heck are they changing it for if he actually loves it and originally has no problems with it????

6. Revive Alfred, because to me, he is an iconic character that shouldn't be killed, because then nothing ever really feels the same again without him

7. Batgirl was cool for Barbara back then, especially because she was still young at that time, but I would make her Oracle again because it's just a definitely more fitting role for her nowadays

8. Keep more awesome Supersons stories happening again, because they're always a joy to read and also because I really miss them a lot

Idk if I have anymore ideas in mind for anything else😅 but this is everything for now that I would definitely change if I could

Batfam Performers AU

No Capes AU where all the members of the batclan come together through a shared love of dance

The Wayne family has been a big supporter of the arts for generations (i mean cmon martha and thomas literally got killed leaving the theater, thats low hanging fruit) and of course Bruce continues this tradition by being very actively involved in the arts communities in Gotham, especially dance which is his favorite

Bruce and Dick meeting is pretty much exactly the same as cannon except instead of becoming a crime fighting duo, Dick gets therapy and decides to continue in gymnastics in remembrance of his parents

Dick goes to the Summer Olympics no less than 3 separate times, and while there, he finds a fantastic group of friends in a variety of other events like Running (Wally, who specializes in the 100 m), Archery (Roy obvi), Weightlifting (Kori), Boxing (Donna), Modern Pentathlon (Garfield), Skateboarding (Raven), and Table Tennis (Victor). 

After retiring from international competitions, Dick does several tours with the Cirque du Soleil.

Jason is a street performer, breakdancing for spare change and also pickpocketing passersby and Bruce goes Hey, That’s Free Kid. Back when he was homeless, Jason spent a lot of time at the local community center learning hip-hop and keeps up with it even after moving to Bristol. It’s more of a casual hobby, but he’s gotten several offers to tour professionally.

At one Winter Olympics competition (which the waynes always attend in person), Dick stumbles upon one of the chinese figure skaters. 

Enter: Cassandra Cain, rising figure skating star, literally won every competition ever, master on the ice, etc etc. Except... somethings off. Because it turns out there’s a huge scandal with abuse of the underage figure skaters going on (think of that controversy with the russian figure skaters who were basically being starved and abused to delay puberty so they wouldn’t develop curves bc that would impact their ability to do quadruple jumps). So Bruce goes, Oh, You’re Being Abused? That’s Free Kid and adopts her. After being adopted, Cass continues to compete in figure skating, but at a much less intense level, and also explores other forms of dance. She falls in love with ballet and quickly rises to the top. That’s where she meets Tim!

Tim fell in love with dance the second his parents forced him to learn the waltz for galas. They enrolled him in ballet (bc “that’s one of the only respectable styles of dance”) basically just to shut him up. Secretly, Tim has been obsessed with more contemporary styles of dance ever since he saw a certain circus performance (wink wink nudge nudge) and constantly goes to watch underground dance competitions. Cass, who knows him from the ballet studio, spots him at one such competition and drags him forcefully into the family. Much to his parents chagrin, Tim ends up forming a small dance troupe with Conner, Bart, and Cassie (Young Just Us). They travel to competitions all over the country, winning hearts and inspiring sexuality crises.

Duke, instead of working as a performer, works in lighting design! He learned the craft from his parents and knows how to work a lighting board like no other. He does work for basically every show/competition in Gotham, including plays and musicals. He knows everyone. Or, more accurately, everyone knows him. Duke is everywhere. If you’re a performer in Gotham, Duke has pointed a spotlight at you.

Damian is classically trained, basically since birth, and won’t let anyone forget it. He considers anything that isn’t classical to be inferior and takes great pride in his ability to dance en point. His dirty little secret? Damian loves square dancing. Jon made him do it once and he complained about it the whole time, then never stopped thinking about it. He would rather die than let anyone find out.

Stephanie starts out as a street performer as well. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get adopted by a billionaire (yet) and after turning 18 works as a stripper in one of Gotham’s less reputable clubs. She falls in love with pole dancing and starts doing it competitively. She catches a lot of shit for it, which is stupid because pole dancing is an incredibly difficult and incredibly beautiful artform. All her awards earn her a spot as a dancer at a club in Gotham that actually treats their performers well. She meets Tim when he sneaks out to one of the pole dancing competitions and gets in a fistfight with an asshole who kept harassing Steph about giving him a lap dance. Steph also does roller derby. This isn’t relevant, but I like it.

Barbara was an incredibly gifted gymnast who trained alongside Dick before suffering a spinal injury during a nasty training accident. She goes on to study music composition and writes/sound mixes for basically everyone who’s anyone. Everyone wants Babs to compose a piece for them because she’s just the best. She’s sought out by teams ranging from break-dancing to cheerleading to experimental.

Bruce has just about every piece of equipment purchasable installed in his basement, so all of his beloved family members can pursue their dreams <]:*)

Earth 2 refugees

I grew up carrying around a copy of Crisis on Infinite Earths, I still have it, water damaged and with the cover taped on. as I said I love Crisis on Infinite Earths as such we do not recognize Infinite Crisis in this house in any way since it took a bunch of selfless heroes from Crisis on Infinite Earths and shat on them. So I had a few ideas of how to nod to pre-Crisis Earth 2 and it's heroes without having to have a whole other plant or derailing the mainstream DCU

One of the characters I really loved was Earth 2 Dick Grayson, I don't know why he doesn't do very much in the story. Maybe it's his amazingly ugly outfit,

maybe I liked the idea of 1940s Robin all grown up and not giving up Robin. Whatever the case in Crisis he died, but importantly he died after the Earth's merged and he died on Earth Prime/1/whatever. In my mind he's brought back, think Dick Grayson has played by Burt Ward but now in his 50s. Touch of gray in the hair, sweater vests and jackets. He's in his mid to late 50s but acts much older because he grew up in the 1930s and 40s so acts like a 90something year old. Now he's from an Earth that does not exist and never did, from a timeline that moved on to allow Bruce and Dick etc to not be old so he's had to make a new life for himself. With the help of the Batfam he's posing as Dick's "Uncle Richard". Together Dick and Richard have opened a small legal firm (very Nelson and Murdock energy) Grayson & Grayson (don't ask which Grayson is first). Richard is kinda the more stuffy and on-time one, Dick is a little more loose always running late papers spilling everywhere . Officially Richard is retired as Robin and superheroing ("I'm too old for that game") but from time to time reports of an adult in a Robin outfit (and ugly yellow tights) pop up and Richard denies any knowledge of these stories.

I'd love Earth-2 Superman and Lois (Kent) to be living in retirement in a recreation of the Earth-2 1930s Kent farm house inside the Fortress of Solitude, much like Superman in the start of Kingdom Come. In their mid to late 70s, hair a lot more gray and white than black, Clark is enjoying working on the farm and raising animals and might actually need those glasses (at least for reading) now. Lois Kent is working on a complete history of Earth-2's hero age from 1938 till the Crisis in the mid-1980s using boxes of news paper clippings written by her and Clark over their 40-ish years at the Daily Starr. Clark is also enjoying dusting off his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother's cook books to put the eggs and wheat raised on the farm to good use. Earth Prime's Clark and Lois (and any of the kids they can wrangle) are regular Sunday night dinner guests as are the old guard of the JSA, Power Girl, Queen Hippolyta (the WWII Wonder Woman) and Ma and Pa Kent. Clark Comments how odd it is to have come back around to be his own parent's older brother in effect (he's about 8-10 years older than this Earth's Ma and Pa Kent) Clark has hung up his costume (though he still has it and it fits) because this world has more than enough Supermen and Clark and Lois rarely leave their farm. Though whenever Lois and Clark can't make (saving the world) one of Jon's baseball games mysteriously "Great-uncle" Clark and "Aunt" Lois seem to always just know and show up to cheer from the stands.
