Hey Southern California Drivers.
(sits down) (pats the couch next to me) Come on bud, you're not in trouble, I just need to talk to you for a second.
Dealing with a lot of rain, huh? It's scary! I'm scared too. The roads aren't built for this kind of rain, drainage is terrible, there's going to be flooding. And you're not used to it, and that makes it scarier.
That means you're going slower! No, that's good, that's not what I wanted to talk to you about. Make sure faster drivers can pass you, you're going to add to make people angry if you're going slow in the fast lane, but I think you know that already, you did a good job today with that. You should go as fast as you feel comfortable, and it's good that it's slower than normal, since you're going to be reacting to circumstances that are new.
Now...here's the important thing...*that doesn't mean you should turn your hazard lights on*. I know, you want to be more visible, and you don't want people to ram into you from behind. But if you have your headlights on, your taillights already do a good job of that. Turning on your hazard lights and leaving them on make it harder to see a couple things. Me and other drivers have a harder time knowing that you're breaking, and it's harder to know when you're changing lanes. That makes it *more likely* that I run into you. And neither of us want that.
This is a lot, and I hope you can get off the road and safe soon. It's better to wait out the storm inside.
But please, while you're out there, don't use your hazards all the time while driving in the rain.

Hello again! Thank you for such an amazing hdc! I have another request today that has been keeping me up!! How about a oneshot soulmate au with slight yandere barbatos with a reader who is caring and smart (but sees his obsession as a cute quricky flaw despite what it is, to barbs surprise). Maybe Barbatos messed up somewhere in his stealthiness and the reader found out amd he thought he might have to reset the timeline but is confused and suprised by her not seemingly bothered and just shows kindness to him and insist on helping him with his chores etc. It doesn't matter which type of soulmate au you choose!
Maybe barbatos wasn't very interested in his soulmate until he meets her? Like he was aware and might feel a certain way but not enough to be yandere yet and when he mets them it just changes his world and it now makes sense why they are soulmates.
I hope this wasn't a difficult of a request, feel free to change it up if its easier or get a better idea!
I'm gonna be honest, I'm convinced that yandere Barbatos would believe him and his darling are meant to be, regardless of if it's int he soulmate au. I was meaning to take a break from my studies, and this seems like a great way to do that! (I'm learning German, and Russian for my class.) I've always admired the more intense sounding foreign languages.
Earl Grey tea, and learning Russian, quite the day.
Here we go!
_______________________________________
It was pouring rain as you stood there, watching rain paint the sidewalk a darker tone. turning to the sky, and closing your eyes. Sounds seemed ever surrounding. Every pitter-patter, from the rain against the ground, and the tapping as other drops hit your umbrella. Drops dancing down your coat, and splatter on your boots.
The skies darkening shades clouded the sky, as you walked home. Leaving the comfort of RAD, and it's dry insides, for the soaked ground, and wailing sky, Moonlight dancing on the trees leaves, on the path you found nice to take, on those days where you wouldn't mind being away for just a little bit longer.
Sometimes it was nice to let the rain fall, and soak your cloth. To let the rain wash away all the worries that surround your daily life. Letting the rain wash away your worries. Letting the rain lead your way. A small detour, to some near by shops, for temporary cover from the rain.
None seemed of interest though, until one caught your eye. Was it new? or had you just not seen it yet. A small tea shop of the corner of the plaza.
Tea, it always reminded you of Barbatos, maybe tea always tasted so good because he made it, but it couldn't hurt to try some.
It's a good thing you weren't home yet. The thing is that it wasn't supposed to rain so heavily, and you were supposed to get a message from Asmo asking you to hangout. A spa night, and movies, to relax, but with how heavy the rain was, your D.D.D wasn't receiving messages. Unfortunately, Barbatos hadn't thought about that.
He was a little preoccupied with not getting caught sneaking around in your room.
You were supposed to be out all night, so he wouldn't have any problems.
The tea shop was bland, and the rain didn't seem to be letting up, and though the smell of many teas, and the fresh rain was very delectable, it was time to head home.
You really did want to try some teas, so before you left you bought a small bag if loose leaf Earl Grey tea. (Earl Grey is my Favorite, I love when It's really strong and bitter.)
Everyone seemed very distracted when you arrived back at The House of Lamentation, so no one really noticed you. Lucifer was busy as always, Mammon, watching horror movies again with Levi, just to prove he wasn't scared, Satan, Asmo, and Belphegor relaxing and having a small spa day. While Beel ate most everything in the kitchen.
Smiling lightly, it was kinda nice to get a moment to yourself. Even if this place seemed to call to you them same way it did when Belphegor was hidden away. Secret passages still make you think, and hidden walkways that make you rack your brain. Pitter-pattering filling your senses again. The smell of rain, and the sound of it pouring. The window left open, so you could cool down.
It was relaxing to come home quietly, and enter your room. Placing your bag on your bed, saying hello to Barbatos, and- and what. Barbatos?
An odd silence spread across the room. Uhh... oh! "Do you know how to make loose leaf teas?" Barbatos was perplexed by the question, of course he knew how, but is that all you wanted to say to him? He recovered quickly though and retorted, "Yes, I do." He had noticed the tea branded bag that you placed on your bed. "Would you like me to show you how to make that tea you bought?" Nodding you handed him the bag, how walking to the kitchen with him. "so, what were you doing in my room anyhow?" He was quick to think of an excuse, "I was actually just looking for you." You smiled, and laughed to your self. "In my room?" He nodded, now retrieving the tea kettle, and strainer. "Without the light on?" He simply nodded, taking the finished tea, and leading to the living room.
"Your pretty weird Barbatos." You smiled, "It's kinda cute." Before trying the tea he had handed you. Bitter, but oddly sweet. It tasted like bitter memories, but was warm and familiar. It was perfect, "Is tea always this good, or just when you make it?"
"Thank you, y/n. I do consider myself a tea enthusiast."
A few minutes passed of comfortable silence, and tea drinking. The faint sound of rain, a fresh blend of tea, and the cozy atmosphere of the living room.
Barbatos honestly wasn't sure what to say, this wasn't supposed to happen. Though you do seem to be taking quite well.
"y/n, you look uncomfy, is everything alright?"Perhaps if he pretends snooping in your room was normal, then you wouldn't think anything bad of him. Or maybe you were already used to the brothers constant lack of the understanding of privacy.
"We should hangout again, Barbatos. Drinking tea with you is really nice." You thought, "Your really odd, and kinda unsettling, but also super cool."
That lead to a very interesting conversation about his fashion sense, then his demon form, finally landing on tea suggestions. In fact the talking went on for hours into the night.

I might actually write a small series for this... it was more interesting than i though it'd be! Thanks for suggesting! :)

The Snow Blooms on the Forest Floor
i also did a writing trade with a homie!!!!! ofc ofc, im sure u know who im gonna write abt for da homie >:3 (Aurelius lmao) i really hope u like this!!! had a lot of fun writing this and thinking abt ideas for it :3
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.・。.・゜✭・
Spring has finally arrived in the Raine Tundra! Somewhat. As expected, there's still snow practically everywhere, but at least it's not 10 inches deep! The weather is slightly warmer, and the ferocious snowstorms that happened ever so often have died down into small snow flurries, replacing typical spring showers. Now that the temperatures are warmer, snow flowers, typically called powder flowers, are in full bloom over the forest grounds, and you couldn't think of a better time to call Aurelius and spend some time with him. You pulled out your cellphone and dialed his number, hoping he would pick up.
Ring...Ring...Ring...Click!
"...Hello?"
"Hey, Aurelius! It's y/n."
"Oh! Hi. Is something the matter?"
"No, not really. I was just wondering if you were busy right now?"
"I was just about to make some food. Do you need anything?"
"Perfect timing", you thought.
"Would you... Like to have a picnic in the woods? Spring has really melted the snow a lot, and uh, the weather has been a lot warmer lately. Figured now would be a nice time to be together and catch up a bit... And the powder flowers are in bloom now too! I'd love to pick some with you!"
"Powder flowers? I've never heard of those before. Do they only bloom in the spring?"
"They do! And they're beautiful. The petals are edible too, tea made with them is a real treat in the fall."
You heard silence from the other line, and a million thoughts raced through your head.
"Does he not want to come?"
"I'd like a picnic, it sounds nice. I just started cooking some skewers so I'll add a few more for you too."
"Oh! Ok, great! I'll meet you at the bear shaped rock in the middle path, I know a perfect picnic spot. Does that sounds good?"
"Yes. I'll meet you there in... An hour?"
"Yeah, an hour is perfect! See you there!"
"See you."
Click!
"That was way more nerve-wracking than it had to be, holy shit."
After you got a grip of your jelly legs, you gave a small, enthusiastic dance, excited for what's to come. After changing into something decent for going out, you began packing up some of your favorite drinks and snacks into a woven basket, along with cups and a purple and white checkered blanket, your preferred picnic cloth. Putting on your snow shoes, you grabbed the keys to your home and walked outside the door, but before leaving you called out to your father.
"Hey dad, I'm going out to pick powder flowers!! I'll be back later on!!"
"Stay safe, y'hear? Maybe call up that big mountain guy to keep you safe!"
"...Bye, dad!"
You shook your head and rolled your eyes in disappointment, hearing your father chuckle from the other room as you closed the door and began making your way to your meet up point with Aurelius. After you were far enough from the house you gave out a small laugh yourself.
"Oh, if only you knew, old man."
After a while of walking, you could finally see the fabled bear rock in the distance. It's a fairly big rock, in the shape of a bear standing on all fours, covered in a thick layer of moss with a thin layer of snow on top of it. Once you got close enough to the rock and examined it a bit, you could see small budding flowers on the moss, and it brought a smile to your face. This rock has been here for ages, and it's a very well known checkpoint for tundra dwellers, so much so that it's become your favorite place to meet with Aurelius when you can. In the distance you could hear walking, and you turned to face the sound, the smile on your face growing even bigger as you watched Aurelius' figure get closer.
"There are flower buds on the rock! Spring really is here, this rock almost never gets flowers."
"Is that so?"
Aurelius finally got close enough to both you and the rock, and took a good look at the rock, before looking down at you, a soft expression on his face. He silently admired your figure before mentally changing the topic.
"Oh, you're right. Hopefully they'll bloom alright, it's still cold."
"If the flowers are budding now, they'll likely bloom in the coming days, so they should be ok! Now, then, shall we?"
You gave him a smile as you led him deeper into the forest, the sunlight peaking through the tree leaves leading you both to your destination. As you continued along the path you began to see the budding powder flowers emerging from the ground, and you began to take more cautious steps, not wanting to crush the delicate beauties. You looked towards Aurelius and you watched his silent, awestruck expression as he stared at the forest floor, attently staring at the blossoms before him. It brought a smile to your face knowing that he was so interested in the spring beauties, and it filled you with joy knowing that you could spend this moment with him.
Once you approached the small pond in the center of the forest, you stopped with a content sigh, and gazed at the beautiful nature around you. Powder flowers in full bloom as far as the eye can see, the soft hues of periwinkle and baby blue enchant your vision as a gentle breeze flows, making the elegant flowers dance and sway, their sweet aroma reaching the furthest corners of the forest. Once again, you looked towards Aurelius, curious as to what he thinks, and you watched as he took in the view with you, a smile on his features as he breathes in the fresh spring air.
"You picked a beautiful spot, y/n. I never knew the forest had such a hidden beauty."
"Honestly, this is the only time of the year when the forest looks this nice. Any other time and it's all snowed over, or there's a few Miramon trying to destroy everything. Springtime is the only time when I can come to this spot and relax, the scent of the powder flowers mixed with the warm sun just melts away all my worries."
As you spoke to Aurelius, you began to set up the picnic, placing the cups down, bringing out the drinks and snacks. Aurelius soon followed your actions, finally unpacking the skewered meat he ever so kindly cooked for you, the savoury aroma mixed with the sweet aroma of the flowers and created something new, and it smelled wonderful.
You both sat down and began eating, talking about the little things in life, the nature around you accompanying you ever so dearly as you spent time with your beloved mountain man. You educated him on powder flowers and their origins as well as told him a few recipes they can be used in. You two spent the whole day simply sitting in the forest, enjoying each other's company, and for the time being, it felt like it was just the two of you in the world, sharing the same loving perception of perfection at it's finest. You watched as Aurelius picked a single powder flower from the ground, examining it closely before he opened his mouth to speak,
"The spring weather is beautiful, y/n. The sun's radiance peaking through the trees bounces off of you in such a manner that makes the snow, and my heart melt. I'm glad I got to spend this day with you."
You, just like the snow on the forest floor, melted on the spot.

pairing ➳ businessman!mingyu x female!reader
genre ➳ strangers to lovers, romance, slice of life, angst, fluff, gets spicy at the end
word count ➳ 5.6k (apx)
warnings ➳ cursing, reader is really indecisive, heavy makeout, implications of sexual activity.
synopsis ➳ an attractive stranger visits your cabin for a week with whom you quickly bond, developing some strong feelings in the process; leaving you to wonder if he's worth leaving everything behind.
A/N: henlooo~ I finally posted! This has been sitting in my drafts for a while but I didn't really feel like writing for a while, hence the delay. I hope y'all enjoy this piece and please don't forget to leave some feedback! It really motivates me :)
Tumblr media
A cool gust of wind blew by as you finished typing your last column, leaving a soothing feeling behind as you exhaled loudly. It was hard to finish this piece of writing for some reason, maybe because you lacked inspiration or maybe because your life had been monotonous for a while or simply, a mix of both. Closing your laptop you stretch your hands and legs, feeling somewhat productive. Humming a tune, you looked out the window to see a Lamborghini come to a halt at the entrance.
It piqued your interest because it's not often that people riding Lamborghini come in this cabin so genuinely you're interested in the visitor. You shifted in your chair, waiting for the man to come upstairs to the reception and sure enough a tall- really tall man dressed in a neatly pressed suit appears into your view, briskly walking towards the reception where Chan stood to greet him. You could not get a good look at his face as he moved around quickly, grabbing his small carry on and heading towards his cabin after the formalities.
You watched his tall frame walking away as you got up from your seat and moved towards Chan.
"Who is he?"
"Kim Mingyu," Chan explained, resting his arms on the reception table." A millionaire, owns a lot of companies. No wonder he looked familiar."
"Oh, really? How long is he staying?"
"He has booked for five days. Said he might extend his stay."
"I see."
"Why are you so curious though?" Chan raised a brow at you, tilting his head to a side.
"Nothing." You shrugged. "He just has different vibes than the other people that come here you know?"
Chan hummed in agreement.
-
There was never much visitors during the rainy season which was both a blessing and a curse. Blessing because that meant the cabin was less hectic and curse because sometimes you are bound to get a bit too bored. You were helping yourself with a cup of tea to somewhat feel re-energised when your newest and the only guest for the week appeared from his cabin, padding through the corridor and stepping into the common kitchen area. You were taken aback for a moment before you composed yourself and smiled at your guest, "Good morning, Mr. Kim. May I help you with anything?"
"Mingyu, please," the tall male replied while scanning the kitchen area. "You're the owner right? What's the food arrangement here?"
"Well, our guests generally cook for themselves or order takeout. When there are many guests I sometimes do the cooking."
Nodding, he hummed before putting in a capsule in the cappuccino machine. You took a seat by the window, tea in your hand as you watched the male move around like he knew this place. Dressed in his pajamas and judging by the fluffy mess that his hair was you assumed he had a good night's sleep.
"I hope you had a pleasant night, Mr- Mingyu." You said to your guest who had whipped out a pan from the cupboard and was making omelette. "Yes, surprisingly so. Normally I have trouble falling asleep but I slept like a baby last night," he casually conversed as he prepared his breakfast.
You smiled, "Well, I'm glad to know that. If you need anything let my staffs or me know."
"Sure. Oh- I didn't get your name though." Mingyu turned to meet your eyes.
"___," you smiled.
"___, okay."
-
"This is gonna be a rainy week," Hoshi said from behind you as he stood holding a tub of fresh soil for the plants in the backyard of the cabin. You sat on your knees, eyeing the plants which needed their soil changed.
"Yeah? Well, good thing there isn't much guests now."
"I think there should be, I mean it's so pretty here during the rain too. People need to look at it themselves." Hoshi complained.
"Well, most people don't like going out in the rain. Pass me the soil, Hoshi. Let's get this finished before the shower starts."
Hoshi handed you the tub of soil as the sky above started growling, full of thick black clouds. It was gonna start raining soon.
Hoshi spoke, "Oh, Mr.Kim, Mingyu you know, asked me about the beach by the marketplace. Apparently he wants to visit so he asked me if I was free to show him around."
"And let me guess, you aren't?" You rolled your eyes.
Soonyoung pouted, "No! Well I would have given him a tour today if the weather wasn't so bad. And my friends are coming tomorrow, so I'll be busy then."
"Wait- you're friends are coming?" You turned, glaring at the boy who smiles sheepishly, "Oh! Um- I didn't tell you? Well they're only staying for a couple of days and it's not like they're staying for free."
"Well, make sure they clean after themselves okay? If I see them trashing all over the place like last time, I'm kicking you out with them." You gave him a pointed look.
"Okay okay," Hoshi rolled his eyes, puffing his cheeks. "Just- take the CEO out on a tour tomorrow for me okay? I haven't seen my friends in a long time."
"Alright, I will...if the weather is good which probably won't be." You sighed, gently removing the old soil.
Hoshi mused about Mingyu, "Bummer for him, he came in a wrong time. It's weird, no? We don't have such guests like him."
"Yeah," you hummed, focused on handling your roses.
-
Hoshi's friend, Seokmin and Seungkwan appeared early in the morning next day as you watched Hoshi vibrate from happiness when he hugged them. You smiled to yourself, laughing at at the antics of your staff as you saw him guide his friends into their cabin. The day was once again filled with dark clouds and raining which occurred every other hour. You and Chan cleaned up and completed some chores as the noon fell.
"Should I cook something up for them?" You wondered as Chan finished cleaning the common space of the first cabin.
"Nah, Seokmin hyung is cooking for them. He's a pretty good cook actually."
"Really? That's nice." You said pulling up a chair to sit down. "Are you gonna join them? Hoshi has been with his friends since they came."
"Yeah, probably. You should join us too."
"No, I think I'm gonna take a nap. I feel so tired."
"Alright."
You watched as Chan climbed down the stairs and stepped towards the second cabin where everyone else was. You were about to head to your room when the CEO, Mingyu appeared in the kitchen.
"Oh, hello."
"Hi."
"I haven't seen you since morning," you said watching as Mingyu poured himself a glass of water.
"Yeah, I woke up early today, went for a jog."
"Ah, I see."
"Couldn't go far though, the weather sucks you know." He said leaning against the kitchen top.
"Yeah. But I heard that it should get better from tomorrow. I could show you around if you want to. Hoshi, my staff, is going to busy for a while so I can guide you around."
"Really? That would be cool." Mingyu smiled. There was a small stretch of silence as you both listened to the rainfall before he spoke, "Have you had lunch?"
"Uh-no."
"Would you like to join me?" He asked "This is the longest time I've been alone and it feels a bit weird," he murmured more to himself than you.
"I mean- I don't mind," you shrugged. "Though I should be the one doing it."
"It's okay. People say I am a good cook," Mingyu smiled, his eyes crinkling.
"Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to see."
-
It was weird how comfortable you felt watching Mingyu being clumsy and bump into things as he prepared your meal. It felt like you've been doing this forever- like you've known him forever and you thought to yourself what was suddenly wrong with you. He made small talk as he cooked and it felt easy talking with him- almost impossible to believe that he was stranger. He was friendly and easy to get along with, definitely not a cold and grumpy businessman like you imagined him to be.
Mingyu grinned as he set down the food in front of you- chicken soup, rice and cheese omelette. His eyes twinkled excitedly as he watched you take a bite, waiting for you to say something.
"What are you? A part time chef or something?" You tried not to moan as you chewed because it was that good. Mingyu laughed- a sweet, shy laugh that had his canines showing and his eyes forming crescents. "Thank you. I learned from my mom. I like cooking for myself when I get the time which is not often," he smiled- almost sadly.
"Well, you can cook for me all you want as long as you're here because this is amazing!" You grinned at him, cheeks puffed with food.
Mingyu chuckled softly as he dug in and you both started eating. It felt nice, to talk to someone new and spend time with them, someone other than Chan or Hoshi. It was a nice change- a change you probably needed for a while.
"So...What brings you here?" You asked as you finished your food, setting down the spoon and leaning back into the chair. Mingyu who was still eating, looked at you with a perplexed expression so you spoke, "I mean...we don't generally have guests like you. And it's not even a good time to visit...so I was wondering what brought you here?"
"Guests like me? What does that mean?"
"I mean...rich, okay?" You fumbled, feeling awkward. Maybe you shouldn't have asked. "Like...there are fancier places to visit, you know..."
Mingyu smiled at your words for a moment before he deadpanned, "I'm running away."
"Running away?" You gasped, almost jumping from your seat, "From who? The cops?"
"It would have been better but no, my family," he said, his voice as serious as ever.
"Oh...I see," you fell quiet. It definitely wasn't the answer you expected. You both remained silent for a while as he started out the window, lost in thoughts. "It must have been really bad if you're hiding out here." You spoke softly.
"It has always been," he mumbled. "I just couldn't take it anymore, you know? I desperately needed a break," he spoke more to himself than you. Instead of prodding further, you sat quietly, watching him and listening to his words. Seeing him now, he definitely looks troubled and you didn't exactly have the words to console him.
So you whispered, "Well, I hope it gets better."
-
Later that night, you find Hoshi and his friends and Chan preparing for a bonfire in the front yard of the cabin.
"Wow, you all are really having fun, no?" You said as you fisted your hands in your pockets from the chilly weather. The air was colder than other nights and everyone including you had put on some warm clothes.
"You wanna join us?" Seokmin asked as he stacked logs on top of each other.
"Nah, it's fine. You four carry on," you patted his back as you started walking back towards the cabin and saw Chan and Hoshi coming out with some boxes in their hands.
"Hey! There are marshmallows in the kitchen cabinet if you want.... nevermind," you finished as you saw beer cans and soju bottles in their hands.
"We're gonna get drunk baby!" Soonyoung yelled, grinning like a fool.
"Hyung, you look drunk already," Chan gave him a side look as they trudged towards the bonfire.
Laughing at their antics you climbed the stairs to the kitchen, preparing some hot chocolate for yourself. Holding the mug on one hand you knocked on the door to Mingyu's room, checking up on him since you haven't seen him since lunch.
The door opened revealing Mingyu in a baggy shirt and pajamas, his hair fluffy and messy.
"Hey," you chriped. "Wanted to check up on you. You wanna join the others in the bonfire?"
"Nah, I'm good. I've been watching them from the balcony." He smiled, his pointy canines showing.
"Oh, I see."
"You wanna come in? I've been getting lonely." He offered, moving away from the door to make space for you.
"Uh- I don't mind," you murmured, surprised that he asked you to come in. You tentatively stepped in and it was fair to say that you were surprised to see the room neat and pristine as most guests kept their room messy.
He ushered you into the balcony, which had a great view of your yard and the forest behind. You saw others laughing loudly as Soonyoung acted something out. Mingyu's voice pulled you out of your thoughts.
"You didn't join them?"
"Nah, they can get too loud sometimes," you chuckled, taking a seat on the bench. You eyed an empty mug lying by, guessing that Mingyu already had his fill of hot chocolate.
Mingyu took a seat beside you, stretching his legs and sighing as he mused, "The view is great."
You hummed your agreement. It was indeed. Not only did you have the full view of your yard and the forest, but you could see a vast horizon of the night sky, some stars twinkling through the clouds.
"It's even more beautiful during summer. You can see so many stars that it feels unreal." You told him.
"Then I will try to visit again during summer," he smiled and you were not sure if he was serious or joking. However you replied with a smile, "You're always welcome."
A silence falls among you two after that but it's not uncomfortable, as you both watched the night grow and Soonyoung and his friends got louder.
"Things got really hard for me, you know," Mingyu started speaking, his voice soft as he stared at the mesh of trees ahead. You were somewhat surprised at his words, but you didn't interrupt, opting for him to continue.
"Running a million dollar company was never easy but...it suddenly was unbearable. My parents always interfered in my work and how I run the company but I managed through all of that, really...until..." Mingyu heaved a long sigh, abruptly stopping.
"Until?" You tentatively asked, peeking at him.
"They want me to get married. With the daughter of their business partner. A marriage of convenience, really."
Oh.
You fell silent, watching him as the moonlight dimly lit the side of his face. There wasn't enough light to see his face completely, but enough to see the curve of his face, his sharp jawline and the sad, lost look in his eyes. Your heart suddenly ached for him. Silently you patted his shoulder, conjuring up some words to console him.
"That's ...awful, really. I'm sorry."
"I've never been so mad in my whole life. Can't they just leave me alone? They treat me like a puppet, like my only job is to live for them. I'm so done. " He said, his hands forming fists.
There's a beat of silence as you quietly patted his back and watched your friends get wasted by the bonfire before he chuckled softly, "I'm sorry for dumping all these on you. I just couldn't hold them in you know-"
"It's really fine, Mingyu. I don't mind. It would be nice if I could actually help you," you sighed, retracting your hand.
"Trust me, you are," he said and you caught a smile on his face.
"I suppose you don't have a significant other? Someone you could talk to freely?"
He shook his head. "That is why I came here. Needed to get my thoughts together, away from them. Not to mention I don't remember the last time I went on a vacation."
"And have you got your thoughts together?"
"I think so, yeah." He shrugged.
"What are you gonna do?" You asked tilting your head.
"Stand strong in my ground, I guess. There's no way I'm marrying their business partner, I'd rather die. And if all else fails, I'm staying here. I'm sure you have some type of job for me, right?"
You laughed at his words, "Maybe. But I'm not sure about your skills, Mr. Kim."
"Oh I'm a fast learner, Miss ___."
You both grinned at each other.
That night when you went back to your room, your thoughts were plagued by Mingyu and you could swear you saw him in your dreams too.
-
The next morning is brighter and shinier; the sky relatively clear other than some light clouds. After getting dressed and checking up on Hoshi and Chan who were still sleeping, you trudged through the cabin and towards Mingyu's room, before knocking on it. A fully dressed Mingyu appeared, clad in a white polo and jeans, his hair styled messily. He looked effortlessly attractive, making your heart skipp a few beats.
Damn it, what was wrong with you?
"Hi," you almost missed a breath, your face flushed with warmth.
"Oh, hey. I was about to come to you. I believe you were to show me around." Mingyu grinned, his pointy canines showing.
"And that is what I'm here for, Mr. Kim."
"Great! Let's get going. We'll take my car."

After showing Mingyu around for a couple of hours, you both ended up at the beach by the marketplace, sitting on the sand next to each other. The weather was nice; not too hot, not too cold as a light breeze flew by occasionally. Though you could see some black clouds gathering above, it wasn't to rain until evening if the forecast was correct.
"This place is so pretty," Mingyu mused, making you smile.
"I know right. The weather is great too."
You both watched the waves crash to the shore, occasionally wetting your feet as you both relaxed on the sand. There was a silence, a comfortable one as you finished eating the corndog you bought from the market earlier with some groceries. As you finished the last bite, Mingyu turned to face you and asked, "Tell me about yourself."
"What?" A squeak of surprise escaped from you.
"I shared a lot about myself last night. It's only fair I get to know about you too."
"Well..." You pondered. "There isn't much to tell. I've a pretty dull life, unlike you."
Mingyu chuckled, shaking his head, "Does the cabin belong to your parents? Is it like a family business type of thing?"
"No, not really," you smiled softly. "My parents are dead. The cabin belonged to my grandfather."
"Oh- I'm sorry."
"No it's okay. They passed away in an accident when I was a kid so I don't remember them much." You spoke, watching the sea, "My grandparents raised me. Growing up I've spent a lot of time in the cabin and when my grandfather retired he handed the job to me."
"Are they alive? Your grandparents?" He asked tentatively.
You shook your head, "Grandpa passed away a couple years ago and it's been a few months since grandma did too."
"I'm sorry, you must've been lonely," Mingyu offered, his voice soft.
You shrugged, "Yeah, like I said, nothing interesting going on in my life."
Mingyu hummed noncommittally and there was a few moments of silence before he spoke again, "Was managing the cabin something you have always wanted to do?"
You were quiet for a while as you thought over the question, "No...not really. I've just kept doing the job I was handed to. I haven't really thought about what I want to do."
"Well...I think you should hire a manager in your place and maybe...I don't come to the city and make friends, see what calls for you."
"Yeah, I've thought about it. But I don't know really." You murmured.
"Well, give it some thought. I could help you find a manager. In fact, I could help promote and upgrade your cabin if you'd let me. It'll be a good investment."
You laughed softly, not taking his words too seriously. He was just a guest. He was probably just being nice.
A gust of strong wind flew by, ruining your hair as it poked into your eyes and you laughed when your eyes landed on Mingyu.
"What?"
His hair was sticking in different directions because of the wind and you shook your head with a smile as you reached to pat the hairs back into place. It happened naturally, before you could stop yourself. For a moment your eyes meet as you quickly retract your hand, face heated.
Something was definitely wrong with you.
Mingyu's gaze stayed at you for a while; you could feel his intense eyes on you and you thought maybe he didn't like you touching him. Before your thoughts ran more rampant, he spoke.
"___?"
"Y-yes?"
"Do you...Do you have a home?"
"Home?" You were confused.
"Yes, home. Not like a real house but like a... person. Someone who makes you feel at ease, someone with whom you can be yourself without judgements, someone who keeps you cozy and safe and loved...like a home."
Somewhat taken aback by his words, you fell silent but their depth hit you and you found yourself thinking about it. Do you have a home?
No. No, you don't.
You shook your head, murmuring, "No."
Mingyu nodded taking his eyes off you.
"What about you?" You asked.
"Me neither."
You smiled, "Figures. Because if you had someone you wouldn't have run here but went to them."
Mingyu smiled, a sad smile gracing his lips. It was a somewhat bitter truth, he hadn't found his home no matter how much he looked for it. Maybe that's what he was doing wrong, looking desperately.
"Let's get going. It has started to rain," Your voice dragged him out of his thoughts as he felt small drops of water fall on his face. You reached your hand out to him and he took it, standing up. As you both jogged towards Mingyu's car, your hands remained connected, no one bothering to let go.
-
That night you had dinner with Mingyu again but this time it was you who did the cooking. After enjoying dinner over small talk, Mingyu like the gentleman he is did the dishes as you poured some wine for the two of you.
Sitting on the small table in common space by the window, you both watched the clear sky that had appeared after the shower. You sipped your wine, watching the vast expanse of stars that blinked in the dark sky.
"I think I've to go back tomorrow," Mingyu suddenly whispered, his tone so low you almost thought you misheard him. A bolt out the blue, you looked at him.
"Tomorrow?"
"Mmhmm," he fiddled with the hem of his cardigan as he stared at the table. "I've got so many calls and messages from work. My company won't run on its on, I can be gone for only so long." He sighed.
You didn't offer any words, too shocked to know that he'd be gone tomorrow. What is this attachment you've developed towards him? Why did the thought of someone, almost a stranger going back to where he came from, where he belonged hurt you so much? You didn't know what to label your feelings but realizing that you'd probably never see him again was tugging at your heartstrings.
Should you ask him for his number and stay connected with him? Is there even a point in that? You both live miles away from each other. Or should just take his advice and follow him to the city? Would that even be a good idea? Are you just reading all this wrong?
You were so invested in your thoughts that you didn't realize Mingyu was calling you until he shook your shoulder.
"You okay, ___?"
"Huh? Yeah...it's just, the news is really sudden. I didn't... expect you'd return so soon." You mumbled.
Mingyu sighed, his shoulder dropping a little bit. "Trust me, if I could I'd stay here forever. But...I can't keep running. I need to face my parents, the sooner the better."
At a loss of what to say, you just nodded. Reaching for your drink you took a big gulp, trying to calm your nerves. It's okay, you can do this. He's just another one of your guests.
You stood up, taking the empty glass in your hand, "Well, I better leave you alone now. I'm sure you've got packing to do."
You almost turned away; until a strong hand gripped your wrist and pulled you back, making you stumble towards Mingyu's body.
"Don't. Stay for a while. I don't want you to leave." His voice was soft yet deep and it immediately broke your resolve as you set the glass down and looked into his eyes.
He didn't let go of your wrist; instead only wrapped his other hand around your waist, pulling you closer, leaving just a few inches between your faces. You didn't tell him to move neither did you make any effort to get away from him- you didn't want to. It felt good, comforting as he held you and looked at you almost like you were his whole world. His eyes had so much emotion swirling in them and you were sure yours looked the same too.
"___?" His voice was breathy and it set your heart aflame.
"Y-yes?"
"Can I...kiss you?"
You inhaled sharply as his hold on you got tighter. You couldn't process a reply, overwhelmed with emotion. So you just nodded and Mingyu leaned in, pressing his lips to yours.
It was soft at first, his lips just resting against yours, as if he was testing the waters. When you didn't resist but only pulled him closer, he started devouring you, his tongue prodding in your wet cavern. Moans espaced from you as you kept pulling at his hair almost grinding on him, desperate for more. He was the same, kissing you with so much passion and vigour like you were the last female standing.
You somehow managed to tug off his cardigan between the kiss and when you pulled apart for air, Mingyu panted, "Can we take this to the bedroom?"
His deep raspy voice spread liquid heat throughout your body and you had to stop yourself from pouncing on him.
"Yes please," you breathed. Mingyu stood up straight, his tall and built body intimidating you in the best ways possible, "Oh baby, you don't have to beg. I'll give you anything you want."
Once again your breath was trapped as he picked you up, his hand under your ass to support you. When he dropped you on his bed and took off his tee you realized you were in for a long night. In the back of your mind, you also realized that this would make it even harder to let him go.
-
Next morning you were the first one to wake up as the sun barely seeped through the blinds. If you had to guess it wasn't any more than six am. Mingyu's hand rested on your waist as he remained snuggled against your back. It was so comforting that you almost forgot your reality and went back to sleep, until you remembered what had happened last night. Before you could start overthinking and possibly had a breakdown right there, you ever so carefully removed his hand from your body and scrawled out of the bed, grabbing your shirt and quickly throwing it on. Then you tiptoped out of his room despite the ache between your legs and rushed straight towards yours.
Slamming the door shut, your sat down, head in your hands. You've to now prepare for saying goodbye. Right, you just need to act casual and not let him know that you might have developed feelings for him in the past week.
His words came back to you.
"Do you have a home?"
You didn't have one until now but the realization that you may have found it brought tears to your eyes.
-
You spent the next hours wallowing in your self pity, curled up in your bed too afraid to get out and face Mingyu. Soonyoung dropped by once, knocking at your door and asking if you want breakfast, which you declined. Time slowly ticked away and you watched as the clock struck eleven. You couldn't stay inside forever. You needed to bid Mingyu a goodbye- that is if he hadn't left already. But you were sure he didn't; he wouldn't just leave without any words.
Sighing, you gathered every last bit of your courage and stepped out of your room. Immediately you saw Mingyu coming out from the opposite end of the corridor, the carry-on he brought with him in his hand.
"Hey, where have you been?" He asked, his steps getting quicker to come and stand in front of you.
"Oh- um, I took and shower and then dozed off, sorry," you lied easily, not meeting his eyes.
There was a beat of silence as you both stood in front of each other and when your eyes finally met his, a blush spread across his face like wildfire. The air was heavy with unsaid words and you coughed, trying to get rid of the terrible awkwardness.
"So, you're leaving now?"
What a nice question.
Mingyu seemed to be lost in thoughts as he snapped back to reality and scratched the back of his head, "Oh yeah, right. It'll be a couple hours drive so the earlier I leave the better."
Nodding you motioned your hand towards the exit, "I'll see you out."
Mingyu seemed to have something to say but he pressed his lips in a thin line and started to climb down the stairs, you behind him. Soonyoung, who was standing at the entrance gave you a conspirational wiggle of his brows but said nothing as he watched you follow Mingyu out.
You observed as Mingyu loaded his bag in the trunk, peeking glances at you every other second. When he finished, you spoke, "Well...good luck. I hope you can overcome your problems."
"Thanks. It won't be easy and my dad will probably take away my shares of the company but...I'm done living like this."
You nodded, smiling softly as you crossed your arms against your chest. It suddenly felt cold.
You both gazed at each other, saying nothing even though you've so much to say, as if the silence would carry your unsaid words to him. You were torn- wanting to talk about last night but chickening out knowing it was probably just a fling, a one night stand for him.
"___..." Mingyu spoke but the words died on his tongue. Not trusting yourself to speak, you swallwed the ball of emotions and looked at him with a curious tilt of head.
"...I hope you find what you really want to do. And I hope you find your home too," he said, his words so soft and gentle. For some reason you had a feeling that those were not the words he wanted to say yet you forced a smile and nodded, "You too, Mingyu."
His eyes swirled with so my emotions but you didn't know what he was thinking. He looked pained, just like you but you were too afraid to speak your feelings, scared that you misread him.
When you spoke no more, Mingyu sighed and backstopped slowly, "Well... goodbye, then."
You managed to choke out the words, "Goodbye."
Your emotions overwhelmed you, tears stinging your eyes as you watched him enter his car. Why did it hurt so much? Why did it feel like your heart was being ripped right out of your chest?
His engine roared to life and your stomach sunk. Was this really the right thing to do? Should you just let him go like this?
You made a split second decision that moment, just as his car moved forward a little.
"Mingyu!" You called after him, immediately making him stop the car. He came out, almost in a hurry, an expectant look on his face as you ran towards him. Then you made another split second decision as you wrapped your arms around his tall frame and held tight.
"I like you, Mingyu. I really like you." You mumbled in his chest.
He didn't say anything back but you felt his arms wrapping around you tightly and you stood there in each others embrace for a while. It felt like time has stopped, the warmth and safety of his arms comforting you and making you realize how you would have regretted if you had let him go.
Mingyu pulled back to take a look at your face, his hand cupping your cheeks, his warm but intense eyes on you, shining with love and adoration.
"Say something," you whispered, still unsure.
He chuckled, a light-hearted, carefree sound that made your heart swoon. "I like you too, if it wasn't obvious after last night."
Elated, you pulled his face down and kissed his lips as you felt him grin and wrap his arms around you once again.
"I want to go with you...to the city," you murmured into his chest as he rested his chin on the top of your head.
You couldn't see it but you felt him smirk, "Good. Because I think I found my home."
Your heart couldn't become fuller as you grinned like a happy child.
"Me too."

They try to teach you how to dance
Masterlist
Some are crack some are fluff.
...
Bang Chan
Tumblr media
° You were very clumsy, but still determined to look just as amazing as Chan did during the last performance they did on Kingdom. Specifically at the beginning when he is held upside down and made his way to the floor smoothly.
° You kept falling flat on your stomach each time Chan tried to lower you down, you'd get scared at the feeling of no control and end up kicking Chan which led to him losing grip on you. He'd get worried after your third fall, and somewhat beg you to stop.
° You were determined to look as badass as he did, and even convinced Felix to help you out since Chan was too scared of hurting you. Your boyfriend watched as you and Felix both managed to fall to the floor while creating a hole in the practice room wall.
"I think I'll take a break for now."
"I'm sure you'll get it love, we'll just get some safety mats next time."
Lee Know
Tumblr media
° Minho is very sweet towards you, he'll still tease you but over all everyone can tell how much of an effect you put on him. Being the main dancer though, it was intimidating dancing next to your very talented boyfriend. And he notices your stiffness.
° That is why he was showing you the Miroh dance step by step, insisting that he'll teach you. Minho didn't want you to become awkward around him at any point, and so when he saw you begin to stiffen whenever you danced. He stepped in immediately.
° You thought it would be sweaty and frustrating, but it ended up being very fun and sweet. Whenever you got a move right he'd reward you with a kiss, and he'd be close behind you throughout it all. Guiding your movements with his hands as he reassured you in a soft voice.
"Good work bun bun. Do you need a break?"
"Can I still get more kisses on break?"
Changbin
Tumblr media
° You were an upcoming model in Korea, constantly praised for your look but some critiquing you after a viral video of you. The video was of you at an award show dancing, you looked like a dying chicken when you attempted to dance and everyone knew it.
° You wanted to be taken more seriously, and decided to ask your boyfriend to teach you Get Cool. Changbin knew why you asked him to do this, and didn't hesitate since he's seen companies decline you after the video went viral all over social media.
° You were still slightly wobbly and stiff, but you were able to get the basics down. Once you were confident enough, you went live on Instagram to show your hard work. Changbin reading the comments out loud from behind the camera.
"Wow the chicken has turned into a Phoenix."
"*Laughs* stop, I'm gonna lose my rhythm."
Hyunjin
Tumblr media
° You were out partying with Hyunjin, Jisung and Jisung's Girlfriend. The spotlight seemed to focus on you as your tipsy induced brain convinced you to dance your heart out. The crowd around you beginning to cheer you on.
° Hyunjin recorded you as you began to recreate double knot, missing a few steps but still looking amazing nonetheless. He was enjoying the show you were putting on, until a random man tried to dance up behind you. Attempting to grind against you.
° Without a second thought, he pulled you out from the spotlight and tucked you infront of him. Shielding you away from anyone interested, it was getting late anyways and he would've pulled you away a couple minutes later if it weren't for the man.
"Did I do good Jinnie? ~"
"You are always fantastic angel."
Han
Tumblr media
° You were rehearsing your stage before the main event, the weather was drizzling which led to a slippery stage. You thought it wouldn't effect you much, that is until you hit the dance break. Where shaking your hips turned into falling on them.
° Jisung felt bad he truly did, but your frustrated sighs and curses always amused him. Especially when you were wearing a mic where everyone could hear you, he'd laugh but always help you back onto the stage nonetheless.
° Jisung went through the steps with you. Making sure the rain wasn't the only problem, afterwards you soon realized you were taking to many large steps which led to the slipping. You were thankful he helped you go through the steps, even if you still fell.
"Why are you laughing ~"
"Because everyone can hear you swearing."
Felix
Tumblr media
° You wanted to learn back door and surprise your boyfriend with your new talent, the only problem was... You couldn't get the steps right. This frustrated you immensely, wanting to impress Felix just as much as he always impresses you with his talent.
° Felix got you some cinnamon rolls from your favorite bakery, he walked by the store and decided why not. That's when he noticed you looking sulky on your couch, he sat next to you gently. Waving the scent of your favorite treat near your face.
° Felix asked what was wrong, and tried his absolute hardest not to show off the brightest grin when you admitted to wanting to impress him. You always impressed him and he found it adorable how determined you were to learn the dance.
"C'mere lovely, I'm going to show you the dance."
"Can I finish my cinnamon roll first Lixie?"
Seungmin
Tumblr media
° You had a crazy side to you, a side only few got to see and this people who saw it were only the ones closest to you. Seungmin had the pleasure of seeing this wonderful side of you, watching you make a fool out of yourself for his entertainment alone.
° Seungmin came home from a hard day of rehearsal, JYP critiquing the group rather harshly even though he couldn't do half the stuff they could (all tea all shade☕) he felt his spirit crack a bit from the hurtful words. Wanting nothing more than your company.
° You found out the song was All In, the one JYP had somewhat of a say on what happens in the song. You decided to recreate JYP's dances in front of Seungmin to cheer him up, purposely making them look more sloppy than they actually were.
"Join me Seungmin!"
"No *gasping for breath* you're too much sometimes. Laughs"
Jeongin
Tumblr media
° You out the Self in self-conscious, meaning you were a very introverted and anxious person naturally. It took over a year for you to warm up to your boyfriend Jeongin, but he was patient with you and got the best reward by having you by his side.
° This is why he was so shocked when you asked him to show you the side effects dance, since you've never really mentioned an interest of any type of dancing. Not even dancing at a party or simply bopping out in the car. But he wasn't going to waste the rare opportunity.
° Before you could second guess yourself, he pulled you to the dance studio. Hooking the song in the speakers, he stepped in front of you so you couldn't see the mirror. Knowing you would want to back out once you saw yourself. He wanted to make you feel safe.
"Maybe I should try this another time."
"But I want to hold you for a bit longer."

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curled up on the sofa, wrapped in blankets and not noticing that the movie you were watching had ended, you didn't realize that your boyfriend, Yunhyeong had arrived home. He stood in front of the TV, hands filled with groceries that he was waving around to catch your attention while you were still spaced out.
"Babe! I'm home!!" he called out for the third time.
With a sigh, he dropped the groceries and then dropped himself on you, wrapping you in a hug. His coat smelled like the rain and the stubble of his chin tickled your forehead.
"Hm?" you groaned, finally realizing his presence.
"[y/n], what's wrong? Why are you so spaced out?" Yunhyeong asked you, pulling away so he could get a good look at you.
"I don't know... I just feel a little blue," you mumbled, pulling down your boyfriend's black mask, revealing his worried expression.
"Hmm... I'm sorry I haven't been home these days to take care of you, since we're preparing for a comeback, but... I'll make it up to you now, okay?!" Yunhyeong exclaimed.
"Yun... It's 12am!" you pointed out, laughing.
"So? Perfect time for a date!" he said, pulling your arm and forcing you up.
"My face is so puffy right now from being half asleep all day," you groaned.
"And I haven't shaved in a couple of days, but that's fine! Let's go!" Yunhyeong said, pressing a warm kiss to your forehead.
He held out his hand to you and tilted his head, asking you, without saying anything, if you'd join him on this adventure. And you took his hand, letting him guide you to the bedroom so you could get changed as Yunhyeong put the groceries that he bought away.
Once you were ready, he took hold of your hand and whisked you out of your apartment, wisely picking up an umbrella on the way. When you stepped outside, it began to lightly drizzle, and you were thankful for Yunhyeong and the umbrella he brought as he opened it and held it over you. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you close so both of you would fit under it, but still tilted the umbrella more towards you so you wouldn't get wet, even if it meant his shoulders would get a little soaked.
Luckily, in the dark of the night, no one was out on the streets and Yunhyeong could get away with only wearing a hood, still not being recognized.
"So where are you taking me, Yun?" you asked, your voice just audible over the sound of the rain.
"To the sea!" he exclaimed, excitedly.
"In this weather?" you asked.
"We're already outside... so let's just go all the way!"
Luckily, the Han river was near your house - you always called it the sea - and Yunhyeong was able to take you there.
It was fairly empty of people as you sat right by the water, except for the few people who were running and rushing to get home in the rain. Yunhyeong held your cold hand in his, warming yours up while gazing at you, lovingly.
"[y/n], now that we're here... you know what you have to do," he told you.
You gave him a questioning look.
"Shout all your worries into the sea! Here, I'll go first," Yunhyeong said, facing away from you for a second and turning to the water in front of him.
"I WISH THE IKON BOYS WOULD LISTEN TO ME A BIT MORE!" he shouted, laughing afterwards. You laughed along with him, slapping his shoulder.
"Yunhyeong, be quiet! Someone might hear you..."
"There's no one here, babe," he said, pressing a kiss to your damp cheek.
"Now, your turn!"
You shyly turned to the water before you, taking a deep breath before raising a quiet shout:
"Why is it so damn hard to live!" you yelled, tears forming in the corners of your eyes.
You leaned your head on Yunhyeong's shoulder and he caressed the top of your head with his hand that wasn't holding the umbrella.
"Living is hard, [y/n], but you're doing such a great job," Yunhyeong mumbled into your hair.
Watching the dark water drift by, the soft, yellow light of the city lights and the gentle hue of the sky while being pressed against Yunhyeong made you feel alive, and you let out a sigh of relief.
"Do you feel a bit better, babe?" Yunhyeong asked, and you nodded.
"I'm glad to hear it," Yunhyeong said, reaching up to stroke your cheek with his thumb.
"Do you feel cold? Yunhyeong asked, looking into your eyes.
You nodded, slowly.
"Just a bit," you said.
Yunhyeong flashed a playful, meaningful grin before standing up and touching your shoulder.
"Tag, you're it!" he said before running away.
"In this rain you're gonna make me chase you?" you yelled after him, still standing up to run behind him.
He laughed, looking up at the sky while running and slowing himself before almost falling in a puddle, giving you time to catch up and wrap your arms around him from the back in a tight bear hug. After kissing the top of your hand lightly, Yunhyeong let you run away so he could chase after you this time. When he caught you, he held your face with both hands and peppered it with a million kisses using those soft lips of his, stirring butterflies within you.
The two of you giggled a lot under the rain, running in circles after each other by the water until you were tired, but in a good way. It was the kind of exhaustion that you feel after you know you've had a good day - the kind of exhaustion that tells you you'll be sleeping well tonight.
"Are you ready to head back to bed?" Yunhyeong asked you, taking your hand and guiding you away from the water.
You nodded.
"But let's shower first! I'm drenched," you said.
"Does a warm bubble bath sound okay?" Yunhyeong excitedly suggested, swinging your hand in his.
"It sounds lovely," you replied.

╰┈➤ no longer looking for a roommate.
╰┈➤ someone help me, please.
╰┈➤ i think i like them.
Tumblr media
[part two]
note: this the second part of a short fic series. it’s not really necessary to read part one, but i do recommend reading it before this one.
word count: 1.5k
Tumblr media
Moving in was not a pleasant experience, per se. You had to carry all of your things from the tiny hotel to the normal-sized apartment, walking twenty blocks without any help.
You didn't have any friends there yet, and Tsukishima barely knew you —including he hadn't a very attentive spirit as well—, so no one was there to help you with your luggage. You were all alone in a city you had only been for a few weeks, carrying half your own weight on both hands.
“You are a strong and independent person, (Y/N). You can do this!" you thought as you walked the block number fifteen. "That's what Grandma always said... God, I hope she was right.”
Sendai was a pretty small city compared to Tokyo, but it still had a very enchanting environment. The population was not nearly half of the one your hometown had, so you weren't very used to this type of atmosphere.
Tall buildings surrounded you. Most of them were museums, and you questioned which one of them was the one your roommate worked in. He had affirmed something about working in one about Natural Sciences, yet you couldn't really recall its specialization.
Maybe you could visit it one day, who knows.
The traffic was not as bad as you thought, but, of course, people stared at you, pondering how only a crazy person would walk with that much stuff in their hands when rain was almost arising. You weren't mad though, you were just trying to start a brand new life in a brand new place with a brand new —and handsome— roommate. Who will spend these next months beside you.
And share a bathroom with you as well. Yikes.
Forty minutes later, you arrived at the craved destination. Sweating and longing for a glass of water, you rang the bell of apartment number 11. You couldn't hear anything coming from the inside, so you prayed someone was there.
Someone, anyone, slowly walking to open the door, with twelve gallons of water in their hands and a pillow for your head.
Yeah, that didn't happen. The sound of silence was never this loud.
Quick and tiny drops started to hit your luggage. The only thing covering you was the small roof above, but your stuff didn't have the same luck as you did. So there was only one option left.
Sitting on one of your trunks and crying until someone rescued you.
I did say strong and independent, right?
“Stupid Tsukishima, he told me to come today,” you angrily stated out loud. “I'm gonna- I will- Gah! It hasn't been one day living with him, and I already hate this guy's guts!”
“Hello there,” said a voice near you. Tsukishima appeared out of nowhere with a green umbrella in one hand and a bag of groceries in the other. “I just went out to buy some food.”
Your gaze immediately turned to him, cheeks flushed. Clumsily, you stood up and tried to come up with an explanation to save yourself from further embarrassment. The blond stared at you, raising an eyebrow.
'Cute,' he thought, wanting to have some fun by mocking you.
“I'm sorry, haha,” you said, forming an ashamed smile on your lips. “It's been a long day, and I'm so tired of walking. I just want to rest, okay?”
Tsukishima smirked and grabbed a set of keys from his pocket.
“First the rain, and now the long day,” he articulated, opening the door. “You're full of excuses, aren't you?”
He then made a signal with his head indicating you to follow him. Therefore you grabbed all of your stuff —which felt even heavier than before—, and entered the building.
Tsukishima walked through a corridor and stopped at door number 11. He then proceeded to take out the set of keys again and unlocked the apartment.
“You could help me, you know?” you remarked, struggling to keep up. “When you see a friend in need, you should help them. Hasn't your mother taught you that?”
“Well, I would,” he answered, turning around to see you. Tsukishima left out a single laugh as he saw you almost letting everything fall off. “But we're not friends, remember? You said you hated me back there.”
“I will hate you more if you don't help me right now.”
“I think I can live with that,” said Tsukishima leaving the groceries on a table and then closing his bedroom door.
Tumblr media
Minimalistic, empty, and neat.
Those were your first thoughts when you examined the apartment once your room was settled.
You had finally relaxed from your exhausting day, so you decided to inspect your new home, trying to find out more about the guy who now lived with you, though roaming around the house made you feel a bit out of place.
The house looked too tidy in your preference. The walls were white, and a few paintings adorned the entire area. There was at least one plant in each room, though you weren't sure if there was one in Tsukishima's room, as you haven't entered there yet.
Some magazines about Volleyball laid on the tea table, where you could see an orange-haired boy on the front page. It looked like he was chosen to be part of the National Team for the coming Olympics.
Your search resulted in you glancing at one of the hundreds of books about dinosaurs. When you were looking at one about Tyrannosaurus, a picture fell from inside. The same orange-haired boy you saw before in the magazine appeared in it, smiling in front of a younger Tsukishima. There were two other boys and one blonde girl in the middle as well.
You noticed all of them were wearing a Volleyball uniform, but before you could look into it a bit more, a hand pressed your shoulder.
“It's not nice to spy on other's things,” said Tsukishima, smirking and taking the photo from your hands. “You are a really awful roommate, (Y/N). And it's only been like two hours, at best.”
You watched him walking towards the kitchen, disappearing from your sight again. He startled you when he appeared. It was the second time today he had done something similar.
Was he always sneaky like that? You hoped not, because your stay here wouldn't be so good if he was.
And also, how long did he stare at you before actually stepping in?
Dismissing your thoughts, you followed where Tsukishima went. You found him studying —with a rather gloomy demeanor— the picture he took from you.
“Didn't take you from someone who had feelings,” this time, you were the one who surprised him. “And also didn't know you were a volleyball player.”
Tsukishima quickly changed his attitude and put the image inside his pocket. He crossed his arms and reclined in the kitchen furniture.
“You never asked,” he answered, trying to act uninterested. “Though I don't know why you care.”
“Well, we live together now," you said after a sigh. “The only thing we have left is getting to know each other.”
“Even if you hate me?” Tsukishima snarked with a cocky smile, making you remember how handsome he was.
His blond hair was messy, and his bright and tired eyes examined every inch of you. Tsukishima liked reading people like a book. And he was good at it too. Waiting for your answer, he started to recall the day that he met you.
Now you weren't soaking wet, and you weren't freezing because of it, but the weather was still the same. The rain hit the window nonstop, thunder and lightning appearing from time to time. Your face shone with the kitchen lights, making Tsukishima a little flustered. His attraction to you growing bigger every time you spoke, and the distance between the two being only two meters.
If Tsukishima made only one step, he would be able to touch your face. However, he stood there, expecting you to do it instead of him.
But you didn't.
“Yeah. Even if I hate you, I want to get to—” you giggled, but before you could finish, the lights went off. “Oh, crap!”
Tsukishima took only a few seconds before remembering where the candles were. Opening one of the cabinets nearby him, he found them.
“(Y/N), where are you?” he whispered, trying to light the candles on.
“I'm here,” you murmured back. “Also, why are we whispering?”
Tsukishima followed your voice and irradiated your face. You had a tiny smile brightening your appearance. Your eyes sparkled like two stars in a dark night, making the moon beside you fall deeply in love, but at the same time, earning jealousy of your glow.
Tsukishima wished for the electricity to never come back, so the stars shining in his life never faded.
But as we all know by now, stars never shine forever... And neither could these.

My Sweet Little One part II
Rose The Hat x fem!reader
Warning(s): swearing, slight abuse, PDA?
Words: 2,5k
A/N: It has been quite a while. Hasn’t it? Haha. Well there might be a part 3 to this. It’s not as long as the first part which is 8k, and I have no idea how to make links so sadly I can’t link it here. ;/ . Hopefully there will more stories coming soon!
Tumblr media
I made Y/N mine, alright. And everyone knew it, for sure. The next night she laid in my bed, I made her scream my name until her vocal chords were raw and made sweat crack across her place physiognomy.
No one could have her body the way I do, specially that loathsome rube. But he doesn't matter now.' I told myself. Though I wanted to make him pay. Rip his heart out and eat it on a silver platter after making him after making him suffer. Who the hell does he think he is? Laying his hands on my Y/n. They might both be steamy but he should see me. Oh yes, I am a cathedral compared to his small amount of steam.
"Rosie?" Y/n's voice pulled me out of my self induced trance. "Yes love?" I hummed. "You were zoning off again. Is something the matter?" I loved hearing the sweetness in her voice. It was like music to my ears.
"No darling, I'm quite alright." I smiled and placed my lips against hers and gave her a soft kiss. 'If only she knew though.' I thought to myself but shoved that aside for the moment. I could feel her soft hands gently caressing my bare skin and moved closer to her. Normally I preferred being the big spoon but on this moment, I didn't quite mind. She was home now and has been for quite a few weeks but still, I missed her.
"You're sure?" I nodded and ran my hands through Y/n's hair. "You're so pretty. You know that right?" She nodded and I smirked. "There is no one quite like you." Y/n's cheeks flushed cherry red and I chuckled. "No shame, darling. I only speak the truth."
"I know." She gave me a small smile that made me swell up inside. "Have you thought about my offer?" Y/n let out a sigh and I sat up. "I have but-"
"But what?" I tried my hardest not to sound angry. "When you stabbed me before, you told me it was for steam?" I nodded cordially. "Is that...what you guys eat?"
"Does it matter?" I expected to have her argue with me a little bit but surprisingly she didn't. Which I was thankful for. I took Y/n's hands gently in my own and kissed them. "Look, I know it's hard for you to wrap your head around but their pain is our gain. Don't you want to have a life with me? Unconditional bliss?"
She looked down as she slowly sat up and started fumbling with her hands. I wanted to say things, but I didn't want her to run away again. I didn't want to lose her again. She was mine, and only mine.
—— You don't know what it's like, not knowing who you are. To have lived in the shadows and to have travelled this far. Now I've seen a flashes of fire and echos of screams. But I still have faith, faith that someday my memories will come back.
In my dreams, it's all real. And my heart has so much to reveal. And my dreams seems to say, 'don't be afraid to go on, don't give up hope, come what may.' I know it will all come back! One day!
In my dreams shadows call. There's a light at the end a hall. Then my dreams fade away, but I know it will all come back one day. I just remember, rain against the windows. Sheets upon a bed. Terrifying nurses whispering overhead.
It was all strange. Rose, everyone. They say I was found on the side of the road. It had recently rained. In the darkness and cold with the wind in the trees. A girl with no name, and no memories but these above. I don't know a thing before that. Traveling the back roads, sleeping in the wood. I was always taking what I needed, working when I could. Keeping up my courage, foolish as it seems.
In my dreams I've always dreamed of a city. I dream of a city beyond all compare. Is it Paris? Paris... A beautiful river, a bridge by a scare and I hear a simple voice whisper, 'I'll meet you right there in Paris.' Paris.
Dancing bears, painted wings. Things I almost remember, and a song someone sings. It's almost December. Once upon a December. Someone holds me safe and warm. Horses prance through a silver storm. Figures dancing gracefully and across my memory.
Far away, long ago. Glowing dim as an ember and things my heart used to know and things it yearns to remember. And a song someone used to sing.
Heart don't fail me now and courage don't desert me. Don't turn back now that we're here. People have always said, life is full of choices and they aren't wrong but they never mentioned fear. Or how the world can seem so vast. On a simple journey to the past.
Somewhere down this road. I know someone true is waiting. Years of dreams just can't be wrong! Someone's arms will open wide and I'll be safe and wanted. Finally a place where I belong. Well, starting now I'm learning fast! On my journey to my past.
Home, love and family. There has to be a time where I had them too. I wouldn't be complete until I find you. But always one step at a time. One hope, then another. Who knows where this road may go? I wanna go back to who I was. On to find my future. There are things my heart still needs to know. Yes! Let this be some kind of sign and let this road be mine. Let it lead me to my past, and bring me home. At last!
"So, when the fuck was you gonna tell me."
"Hm? Tell you what my dear."
"Cut the sweet act Rose."
"What's wrong with you? Did they tease you again? You want tea?"
"Oh fuck you."
"Watch it."
"Watch it?! You have some fucking nerve Rose."
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me. The fuck did you think was gonna happen?"
"Seriously, what do you mean Y/N."
"Did you think I was gonna forget your words? Think I was gonna forget how useless and worthless you called me?"
"Y/N, I-"
"Shut it. I know exactly what you said, I'm not stupid or will I ever fall for some cover up you're calling this. I was happy without you!"
"You would never survive without me!"
"I did perfectly well for 10 fucking years Rose!"
"You call that happy?! With that Danny? You call that happy Y/N?"
"He loved me! He took care of me! More then you'd ever done, he took me for what I was. He picked up the pieces you broke."
"You better watch it. I don't mind killing you myself."
"See, this is exactly where you and I are different. I spend years not fitting in but thinking it was fine. Cause you were 'there' and cuddled me. Did you ever really love me? Cause you're blaming me for everything here, when it actually was you who fucked it up."
"I fucked it up?! You were the one who was so fucking ungrateful!"
"Ungrateful?! I have a fucking soul!"
"No, you don't! Cause you fucking sold it to the devil. You're not human. We turned you Y/N!"
"Excuse me what?"
"What?"
"No, don't change subject. What did you say?"
"Nothing."
"Did you fucking turn me without me saying you could?! Rose what the fuck!"
"What, you're mine. Just had to claim you. You'll be fine."
"Fine?! I don't wanna feed of dead kids Rosie!"
"They're actually quite delicious."
"You're fucking sick."
"Didn't stop you from fucking me."
"I didn't really have a choice."
"I didn't fucking rape you."
"Nah, it felt like it."
"You screamed my name out of pleasure."
"How come you were so sure of that?"
"I saw it, I saw your mind."
"What if that was just for play?"
"Oh, fuck you."
"I'd kill you if you tried."
"Oh, sweetheart. I'd like to see you try."
"Come at me."
"You can't be serious."
"Come kill me Rose."
"No."
"Coward."
"You're a bitch. A fucking bitch."
"Yet you put up with me for years. Took me back in when I was vulnerable. Loved me, well. Kind of. You held me close to you. Favorited me. So technically, I was your bitch."
"Exactly. You're my bitch."
"I was, not anymore."
"You'll always be my bitch. You're so weak for me, nothing will change that."
"Rose-"
"Begging already? Hm. Get on your knees."
"What?"
"Now!"
"Never."
"Get on your fucking knees before I make you."
"Make me then."
"You're playing with fire Y/N. I fucking hate you."
"Yeah, yeah. We've all heard that. How about something new?"
Before I knew it, her hand was wrapped around my throat. Holding me up in the air. Not a single piece of happiness or softness in her eyes. It was just dark. Her whole face was filled with anger. The veins in her throat showed as she strained. Her jaw clenched. Her hand squeezing harder around my throat. More and more air was ripped from my throat.
"You'll learn your fucking place. You disgraceful little piece of shit."
Her fingernails started to dig into the skin of my neck and my vision started to blacken out. Clawing at her hand. Choking on whatever air that was left in my lungs.
"R-Rosie-"
"Hm? Can't really hear you, my dear."
Her hand tightened even more and I felt my limbs go lump. Everything going dark.
-
"I don't know Abra. She's been gone for so long. She was missing when I came back from the bathroom at the cinema. You haven't seen anything?"
"No, I've been trying. It's like Rose is cutting her off from us."
"I just hope she's alright. She doesn't deserve all this."
"I know, but we'll find her."
"Sweetheart? Hey, wake up."
I felt someone slap my cheek. Groaning in pain, moving my head away. Slowly opening my eyes.
"Rose?"
"Yes, I'm right here."
"What happened?"
"My dear child, you passed out. You had a nightmare from sleeping and got up and started crying. Then you just dropped."
"Really? I don't remember."
"Oh, don't worry. I've got you."
Rose put her arms around me and pulled the covers over us, giving my forehead a kiss. I couldn't put my thought to it. Was that really what happened? I shook my head and snuggles close to Rose. Breathing in her scent. Relaxing. Smiling softly and looking up at her.
"What? What are you smiling about."
"Nothing."
"Come on, I can see there's something."
"I just -"
"Yes?"
"I love you, Rosie."
"I love you too Y/N."
"Rose? Is this really how it has to go?"
"Yes, my dear. Now come on. Stab her."
"I-I don't know, it's just a child."
"What have I told you before?"
"I-, their pain, our gain."
"That's it. Now come, feed your family."
Rose's hands were on my waist, her nose brushing against the back of my neck. I slowly raised the knife in the air. Feeling a sort of deja vu. Had I done this before? I couldn't have. Despite the child's cries, pleas and begging Rose was right. Their pain was our gain. I had to do this to feed the family. The true knot was my family.
Muttering a soft 'sorry' before stabbing the child. Stabbing it over and over again. Hearing both Rose's and Crow's laughter behind me. I felt angry for some reason, the child in front of me was the beat for my anger. The piece to take out all the unknown anger. Again and again. Until there was nothing left. Dropping the knife, shaking.
"You did so great, look at all that steam! Well last for weeks! If not even months. Good girl."
Rose gave me a wet kiss and stroked my cheek.
"Rosie?"
"Yes, my love?"
"Have I done this before?"
"What? Stabbing a child?"
"Yeah, I got like a deja vu."
"Well, haven't we all wished to kill children?"
Her carefree laughter filled the air. It didn't make any sense, but it had to.
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Don't be so sad now, poppet. You did well."
"It just feels weird. I was a child too once."
"We all were. But now we are adults, we are the true knot. We live as more powerful then pathetic rubes. You said so yourself."
"I did?"
"Right you did."
"Oh, I can't remember much."
Rose stroked my cheek again and pulled me against her. Rubbing my back and watched the moonlight with me. It was silent. Was it nice? Was it confusing? Was it awkward?
"I just, this doesn't feel right."
"What do you mean?"
"It's like I've been walking, but with my face turned to the sun. This weight on my shoulders. And I feel as if I need to run. I do what I can to please you and the others, I just feel like an outsider."
"This is your home, can't you hear freedom calling? Calling you to stay. Don't you feel it in your bones? You belong here."
"In the morning before the sun starts shining, we gotta start moving again, can I drive with you?"
"Always."
"So I'm gonna stand up, and take my people with me. Together we are going to our brand new home. Far across the river. Do you hear freedom calling? Calling you to answer their prayer."
"That's what you got?"
"Yes, it was all I could find out."
"It's not really helpful."
"I know, I don't know what's going on. Before it was so easy to track her."
"I go to prepare a place for you."
Rose watched you sleep. She knew it wouldn't be long until your memories would come back. Her and Crow had been talking about what to do with you. She didn't want to kill you. She did love you, but if she had to she would kill you. You were steamy but she didn't know if it was that good. She had only tasted it once, but it was only little bit.
It had tasted like flowers. For some reason each time Rose would think about it. She would feel this, this heavy feeling in her chest. She didn't know what it was. It couldn't be guilt, could it? No. Of course not. Rose The Hat never had guilt. She was a strong a confident woman. Powerful. The queen bitch of castle hell.
Rose O'Hara knew guilt, knee pain and specially weakness. Rose The Hat could never dream of getting on her knees for anyone.
If she had to kill the one thing she loved. She fucking would.

Luke likes going to the movies. He likes staying home and having a home-cooked meal. He likes quiet, simple, intimate activities.
He does not like parades.
“But it’s Pride,” Ashton wheedles. “D.C. Pride! One of the biggest pride events in the country!”
“You made that up, and I don’t care,” says Luke. “I don’t want to go. I don’t like parades.”
“It’s not really a parade.”
“Also not true.”
“Okay, but it’s not about the parade, it’s about the gathering,” Ashton says, gently shaking Luke. “It’s about a bunch of queer people all coming together and uniting in one space. Celebrating our differences and our similarities. Celebrating community.”
“That’s beautiful,” Luke says. Ashton looks hopeful. “Still no.”
Ashton huffs. “I don’t wanna go alone.”
“Go with Michael and Calum,” Luke suggests. “I’m sure they’d love for you to tag along.”
“And third-wheel all day? No thanks.”
“Well, I don’t know what to tell you,” Luke says, and carries on setting the table for dinner. If his mum comes home to a half-set table, the blame will fall on Luke, of course. Ashton takes the cue and begins laying out plates.
It’s quiet for a moment. Luke can tell Ashton is trying to come up with a way to convince him to go to Pride, but it won’t work. Luke’s avoided Pride for seventeen years. He doesn’t intend to start now. Staying at home with his boyfriend and watching Rent is about as much as Luke cares to celebrate Pride Month. Maybe they’ll make out a little. Standards are low.
“Okay, how about this,” Ashton says, and Luke sighs deeply. “No, hear me out. And keep an open mind, okay? Think about compromise.”
“I’m listening.”
“What if we go before the parade starts?”
Luke frowns. “Then what would be the point?”
“There will still be people there,” Ashton says. “But it won’t be nearly as many people, and the festivities won’t really be happening yet, so we can still say we went to Pride but we won’t get caught up in the whole big thing.”
“But I thought you wanted the whole big thing.”
“Ah, whatever,” Ashton says, waving him off. “I’d rather go with you than see the parade alone.”
Luke feels bad. It’s obviously important to Ashton, or else he’d have given up already on trying to make Luke go. And as much as Luke knows he shouldn’t feel obliged to prioritize Ashton’s wishes over his own comfort, this makes him want to.
Compromise. “Okay,” Luke says. “Fine.”
Ashton blinks. “Really?”
“Did you think that wouldn’t work?”
“I—” Ashton’s face breaks into a smile. “I don’t know, not really, to be honest. Really? You’ll come?”
“Yes,” Luke says, and the delight in Ashton’s face makes up for the dread pooling in Luke’s stomach.
Ashton shuffles around the table and presses a warm kiss to Luke’s cheek. “Thank you,” he says, warmth also bleeding into his voice. “I’m excited. You’re gonna like it.”
Probably not, but Luke keeps that thought to himself. He doesn’t need to rain on any more of Ashton’s parades.
-
Luke and Ashton are excited about Dupont Circle for different reasons. Ashton is basically vibrating out of his seat on the Metro as they approach their stop, where the parade is slated to begin at half past noon. It’s only eleven now, but that doesn’t seem to matter to Ashton. He seems confident that there will be enough Pride to satisfy his excitement without overwhelming Luke.
Luke’s just looking forward to the Krispy Kreme at the station.
They take the escalator out, and sure enough, there’s Krispy Kreme to the left. Luke grabs Ashton’s hand and yanks him towards the shop.
“Seriously? We’re at D.C. Pride and your priority is donuts?” Ashton says, but he allows Luke to tug him along until they’re at the door.
Luke turns to him and very seriously says, “Ashton, my priority is always donuts.”
“Yeah, that’s fair, I walked into that one,” Ashton mutters as they enter the store.
Five minutes and two donuts later, both of them exit, Luke munching contentedly on a strawberry-frosted donut (with sprinkles, of course) and Ashton carefully biting into his jelly-filled one.
“Okay, starting now, we’re at Pride, and you can’t be a Negative Nancy,” Ashton declares.
“I promise not to be a Negative Nancy,” Luke vows. “I swear on this donut.”
Ashton beams. “Yay! Okay let’s go explore.”
You’d think this was Ashton’s first Pride for how excited he gets over everything. He stops at almost every stand, even though they’re all selling different versions of the same thing, and somehow manages to spark up conversation with any passing person who looks queer and interesting. Luke loves this about Ashton, how charming and outgoing he is, how he could befriend a vaguely human-shaped plant. People are drawn to him; Luke’s no exception. Ashton is very much the main character, even more so because he doesn’t seem to know it. He's just Ashton, and Luke loves him for it. Even when it means the halo of Ashton’s spotlight draws attention to Luke by extension.
Luke is not a charming, outgoing person. Luke is quiet and reserved. He’s never cared for the spotlight. Sometimes it’s a good thing that he has Ashton to pull him out of his shell a little. Sometimes he wilts under the scrutiny. It's a toss-up, but Luke appreciates that Ashton never stops trying.
Most of the tables selling merch boast shirts, hats, flags — the kind of thing you’d wear or own if you wanted to be loud and proud about your identity. Luke’s not really that kind of person. Luke’s way of coming out is to subtly slip into the conversation the fact that he has a boyfriend. Before he had a boyfriend, it pretty much never came up. Big, colorful flags have never been his cup of tea.
And anyway, that’s only half of his identity. The other half never comes up, and Luke’s okay with that. It’s not like being ace is the kind of thing you can casually mention. It has to be a whole thing, every time, and Luke doesn’t want to deal with the whole thing, so he just doesn’t bother. Most of the time it doesn’t really matter. As much as Luke is able to fly under the radar, that’s what he intends to do.
“Hey, pins!”
Ashton is not like that.
“Luke, you like pins, right?”
The table they’ve stopped at is covered end-to-end with pins. Enamel or plastic, every single pride flag Luke has ever seen in his life is represented here, in a variety of shapes and sizes. The kaleidoscopic display is fun to look at, at least. There’s nobody behind the table at the moment, which means in theory it would be pretty easy to steal one, but Luke’s not like that, and even if he was he wouldn’t feel good stealing a pride pin from a small-business owner.
“I don’t really have an opinion,” says Luke.
“Ha,” Ashton says. “O-pin-ion. Haha.”
“I’m leaving you,” Luke says, turning away with a wry grin.
“No, come back.” Ashton grabs his wrist and pulls him closer, so Luke wraps an arm around his waist and rests his head on Ashton’s shoulder instead. “I like pins. They’re a very understated way of coming out.”
“Having a boyfriend is an understated way of coming out,” Luke replies.
"I resent you calling me understated," Ashton says in faux-indignance. Luke giggles.
“I’m so sorry, I had to run and grab some water,” says a voice, as a person bustles around them to stand behind the table. Their pink fringe is pushed back by a bandana and they’re wearing a jean jacket with so many pins and patches that the fabric is practically invisible. A sticker on the front pocket of the jacket introduces them as Alex, he/they :). “Can I help you with anything?”
“Just admiring the collection,” Ashton says brightly. “I love your jacket.”
“Thank you very much,” says Alex. “It’s been accumulating pins for about five years now.”
“Damn,” Ashton says, wolf-whistling. “That’s a good collection. I don’t have a good jacket for pins.”
“Wish I could tell you where I got mine, but it was a gift from my boyfriend,” Alex says. “I’ve heard thrifting is a good way to go.”
“You wanna go thrifting, Luke?” Ashton says, nudging Luke, who shrugs.
“Sure,” he says. He reaches for one of the asexual flag pins, a small enamel rectangle, and smoothes his thumb over the surface. “These are pretty nice.”
“You should buy it,” Ashton says. “Start a cool jacket. Then we could be matching.”
“You don’t have a cool jacket yet.”
“I know, but we could.”
“But neither of us have a cool jacket. So it’s not even—”
“Fine, ruin my fun,” Ashton harrumphs. To Alex, who’s watching them with amusement, Ashton says, “So how long have you and your boyfriend been together?”
“Oh, uh…” Alex’s gaze diverts to the air like he’s counting invisible numbers. “Six years? Almost? I think it’s gonna be six years in July.”
“Six years,” Ashton repeats in mild awe. “Holy shit.”
“Yeah, high school sweethearts, blah blah blah,” Alex says, smiling. They shrug. “Everyone thought we’d break up when we went to college, but when you know, you know. You know?”
Luke swallows. Ashton says, “Good for you. That’s impressive.”
“I like to think so,” Alex says. “What about you? Are you guys together?” He winces. “Should I not have asked that? I’m sorry, to be honest this is Jack’s business, I’m just running the stand because he wanted to go look around a little before the parade started. My boyfriend Jack, I mean. Sorry.”
“No, no, it’s all good,” Ashton says. He hip-checks Luke gently, which Luke takes to mean something like is it cool if I tell him? It’s nice that Ashton is asking, but Luke had kind of figured everyone would assume they were together because, you know, Pride, so he doesn’t really care.
“Yeah,” he says. “For, what, eight months?”
“Eight months,” Ashton confirms.
Alex grins. “That’s great, I love it. What are your names?”
“Ashton,” says Ashton. “He/him.”
“Luke. Also he/him.”
“It’s nice to meet you guys,” Alex says. “I’m Alex. He/they.”
“Yeah, your thing says,” Luke says, pointing.
Alex laughs. “You’d be surprised how many people don’t see it. Or they see it and think it’s just another decorative pin.”
“Do people wear pronoun pins as decorations?” Luke wonders. “That seems strange to me.”
“People are ineffable,” Alex says solemnly. Then he grins. Luke likes Alex. In fact, little though Luke’s actually spoken today, he likes most of the people whom Ashton has stopped to chat up. Queer people are so friendly, is what Luke is learning. It almost makes him happy to be here.
Except now Alex’s words are ringing in Luke’s head, and he can’t stop hearing them. Everyone thought we’d break up when we went to college, but when you know, you know.
Ashton’s going to college this fall. Luke’s managed to forget about that fact because it’s only June, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Ashton’s leaving and Luke’s going to finish his senior year alone and what if something happens to them? What if they’re fooling themselves thinking they can do the long-distance thing? What if they’re doomed already and this summer is just prolonging the inevitable?
“Well, personally I would love to buy a pin,” Ashton says. “Luke, choose one.”
“What?” Luke says, blinking himself out of his spiral. “Why?”
“I’m buying you one,” Ashton says.
“I don’t—” Luke bites his lip. He’s still fidgeting with the ace flag pin, and he kind of likes it. Maybe he can subtly come out in different ways. Maybe he can just wear it, and wait for someone to ask. Then it’s way less of a big deal because it’s not like Luke has brought it up.
There’s enough shame in the world. Luke doesn’t need to add to it.
“Okay,” he says instead. He holds up the ace flag. “This one.”
“Great choice,” Ashton says, digging out a five to give to Alex. He hesitates, then pulls out a ten instead. “Actually, maybe I’ll also get one. Then we can actually match.”
“Right, with our matching jackets that don’t exist yet.”
“You know what, fine, we don’t have to match.” Ashton makes a face at Luke. “You can put your pin on whatever you want. It’ll go great with your all-black closet.”
“Shut up,” Luke grumbles. Ashton laughs.
“Hey, don’t knock the all-black,” Alex says. “Black is the new black. It’s fashion forward.”
“Not in eighty-degree June it’s not,” Ashton says.
“It’s seventy-five,” Luke protests. “And Alex is wearing a jacket!”
“Yes, but Alex is not my boyfriend, and we only just met,” Ashton says, grinning. “Also, their jacket is sick as fuck.”
“It is sick as fuck,” Alex agrees. “But I’m still siding with Luke here. You can’t go wrong with all-black.” For the first time, he seems to register Luke’s shirt, and his eyes light up. “Hey, Green Day! I fucking love Green Day!”
“You should be my best friend,” Luke says seriously, and Alex nods equally seriously.
“Hey,” Ashton complains. “I like Green Day.”
“Thank you for the pin,” Luke tells Alex. “Good luck with the, uh, you know, selling more of them.”
“Of course, anytime,” Alex says. “I’m pretty sure there’s a website on these business cards if you ever want to, I don’t know, browse?” They shrug one shoulder. “This is why I’m not a small business owner.”
“Cool,” Luke says, taking the card. He probably won’t use it, but you never know.
“Nice to meet you, Alex,” Ashton says, as he and Luke start to walk away, fingers interlaced between them. “Good luck! Happy Pride!”
“You too! Enjoy the parade!” Alex says, waving.
Luke doesn't bother to inform him they're not staying that long; he and Ashton turn away and continue walking, Luke with his new pin clutched in his fist.
“They were cool,” Ashton says enthusiastically. “There are so many fucking interesting people here. God, I love Pride.”
Luke grips the pin tighter. The pointy back starts to hurt where it’s pressing into his palm. “Yeah.”
“Thanks for letting me get you something,” Ashton says. “I know it’s not really your thing, but I don’t know. I felt like we should buy something after we stood there for so long.”
“No, yeah, I agree.”
“On the bright side, they’re pretty cool pins.” Ashton holds his out like he’s assessing what he’ll do with it. “Maybe Michael has an extra jean jacket he never wears. I could ask him.”
Luke hums. Ashton glances over at him, eyebrows drawn together. “Are you okay?”
Luke's not supposed to say anything like this. He’s supposed to be positive because he promised he wouldn’t be a “Negative Nancy” and the sky is so blue that Luke would hate to be the reason for rain, but if he doesn’t say it then it’ll just keep ringing around his head until he can’t think about anything else.
“You’re not scared we’re gonna break up when you go to college?” he blurts out.
Ashton stops short and their hands break apart so Luke’s falls to his side. “Where’d that come from?”
“You heard Alex,” Luke says. “Everyone thought he and his boyfriend would break up when they went to college.”
“But they didn’t,” Ashton says.
“But that’s obviously unusual,” Luke counters. He swallows hard. “I’m just saying…aren’t you worried?”
Ashton tilts his head. “Do you want me to be worried?”
And yeah, a little part of Luke does. Only because if Ashton’s worried, it means he values their relationship enough that it would hurt him to lose it. But Luke knows that’s not really fair, and he knows Ashton loves him, even if he doesn’t seem worried at all.
“No, I don’t know. I just— I don’t know.”
“Are you?”
“I don’t know,” Luke says again. “I had pretty successfully managed to avoid thinking about it, but now…I don’t know.”
Ashton gently pries open Luke’s fist and runs his thumb over the red imprint the pin has left. Sheepish, Luke puts the pin in his pocket. As soon as his hand is free again, Ashton takes it, holding both of Luke’s hands in both of his own.
“I’m not worried,” he says quietly. His eyes are so sincere and his hands are so soft and Luke loves him and likes him and knows that to lose him would be a fate worse than death. “You must have missed the other half of Alex’s sentence. Remember? When you know, you know.”
Luke’s breath catches a little. “Yeah, but…”
“But what?” Ashton lifts a shoulder. “I already know, Luke. I’m in it for the long haul. So unless you meet some other guy who’s even awesomer than me and makes better puns, you have nothing to worry about. I’m not letting you get away that easy.”
Luke gazes at Ashton until the rest of the world falls away. “Oh,” he breathes.
“Okay?” Ashton quirks a smile.
Luke surges forward and kisses Ashton for as long as he can manage without passing out. It’s clumsy and sweet and Ashton’s hands tighten around Luke’s waist and Luke wraps his arms around Ashton’s shoulders and nothing else in the known universe matters except this.
When they finally break apart, Luke cracks a smile. “Okay.”
Ashton beams. He offers his hand to Luke again, and this time Luke takes it and doesn’t let go.

Choi Beomgyu has no intention of being obedient however, and tries to thwart Taehyun’s orders at every turn. With a growing amount of distrust and lies within the court, will Taehyun manage to keep the kingdom of Gojongja from falling apart?

"Ah finally, I'm free!" Beomgyu cried aloud, flinging his arms out wide. "I'm free!" He spun around, skipping down the lane happily.
Seojung and Jisung followed behind silently, watching as the King skipped through the grasses, long coat flapping behind him.
"Sir, we are here to see your house and nothing more."
Beomgyu waved a hand carelessly back at Jisung. "Yes yes, I know that. I only really want to see my house."
The two guards looked at each other. Beomgyu laughed delightedly, stopping to reach up and smell a branch of cherry blossoms. He rushed forward excitedly, and motioned towards the guards to hurry up.
"Come on! Around this corner we can see the back of my house!" He gave a small giggle and disappeared around the corner.
Seojung and Jisung couldn't help but smile at Beomgyu's antics, following him from behind.
Beomgyu had snuck out (well, not exactly snuck out– just left without telling anyone) of the palace to see his house that he'd left behind. Since the tension between the court and the citizens was still present, he and his guards had taken a carriage up to a certain point, and walked the rest of the way down an abandoned country lane. It was alright for Beomgyu, though: he liked the time outside surrounded by nature. Standing in the middle of a field, breathing in the fresh air (and maybe making a pensive wind swirl around him, coat whipping majestically – he can't help his flair for dramatic scenes, even if no one is around to witness them) was wonderful.
Beomgyu stood outside his front door, heels clicking together cheerfully. He flourished the house key he’d taken with him from his chambers back at the palace, and slotted it inside the keyhole. Pushing open the door, Beomgyu let out a sigh of happiness as he stepped into the familiar hallway.
“Long time no see, eh?” he smiled to himself, taking in the details.
The cottage had barely changed. Beomgyu rushed into the front room, and beamed as he took in the ivory curtains, round glasses resting on a side table next to a half-filled cup of tea, and the comfortable velvet armchair which was always stuffed with too many cushions. Peering into the dining room, he smiled as he saw a dinner mat was still set at the table, an empty glass by its side. The kitchen still had clean plates stacked up by the sink, waiting to be put away. He walked into the living room, running his fingers along the dusty bookshelves, packed with novels and biographies which he’d leafed through millions of times. He rubbed a hand over the worn leather of the sofa, rested his cheek on his softest cushion, breathed in the comforting scent of his humble cottage. He sat back into the sofa, smiling contentedly up at the plain white ceiling.
“This. I’ve missed this.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Beomgyu hummed as he put the plates back into the cupboard. He’d just finished dusting the cottage from top to bottom, and had just tidied away the teacup and plates. Walking back to the living room, he scanned all the titles on his bookshelf absentmindedly.
“Ooh-” he gently dislodged a book, looking at the title. Beomgyu chuckled to himself. “Looks like I stole this from the palace. This is one of the books that the scholars use to teach us about clans.” He opened the book and began flipping through the pages. “Oh wait- it looks like there are pages missing?”
Beomgyu ran his fingers along the jagged edges between two pages, which indicated that some had been torn out. “That wasn’t me… I wonder who took them out.” He shrugged, putting the book back. “Oh well. It’s no big deal.”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Inside his room, Beomgyu was going through his wardrobe.
“Oh, Choi Beomgyu, what were you thinking?” Beomgyu tutted, staring at one of his old suits. It was a beige blazer with pale blue accents, paired with a pale blue button-down and a navy and brown tie. He twisted his lips disapprovingly. “I suppose it doesn’t look too bad, but the colours just don’t go together! Bleh. I’d never wear something like this now.” He put down the offending suit, tucking it far away into the corner of his wardrobe.
“Oh, I remember wearing this,” Beomgyu smiled as he pulled out another outfit. This one was a pure white button-down with white pants and a silky cloak-like overcoat. The cloak came up to his hip and had white fur trim along the hood and top half. It even had a diamond clasp. “Wait, do I still have the wand to go with this?” He set down the clothes, and rummaged around his drawers, before pulling out a silver stick. “Aha! I do!” He laughed, setting down the ‘wand’ beside the outfit. “Wow, I didn’t even know I kept the outfit from that Christmas party. I might take it with me to the palace: it’s nice.”
Beomgyu came out of his room and yelled down the stairs. “Seojung, Jisung! I’m gonna leave some clothes by this door! Come back here some other time with the carriage and bring them to the palace, okay?” Then he retreated into his room to look through more of his clothes.
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“Wow, this is nice.” Carefully, Beomgyu extracted the delicate piece of clothing from its protective cloth, staring at it. It was a black button-up, stitched with white and silver stars. It still had its cufflinks in as well: five-pointed diamante stars. The design was simple. When Beomgyu twisted the shirt, the silver stitching caught the light, making it sparkle. “When did I wear this?” The faint smile on the corner of his lips died as he remembered. “Oh. Jieon’s… Jieon’s funeral.” He carefully put the button-up back into its protective cloth, putting it back in his wardrobe.
Suddenly, he didn’t feel too into looking through his closet anymore. Beomgyu put back all the suits he’d taken out and opened the door again.
“Let’s go back.”
As he was stepping outside, Beomgyu noticed that the ground was rather damp. He looked back at the guards. “Did it rain?”
Both of them nodded silently. Beomgyu groaned.
“Oh no, this means we can’t go back down the way we came! The mud will ruin my shoes!” Beomgyu sighed. “Come on, we’ll have to go through the town way.”
“I- sir, are you sure that’s a good idea?”
Beomgyu pursed his lips stubbornly. “I am not getting these shoes dirty.”
The two guards shared a glance.
“Very well,” Jisung said. “But it’ll be more difficult to get to the carriage.”
Beomgyu pfft-ed, waving a hand. “It can’t be that difficult. The carriage is in a place that’s easy to get to. We’ll be fine. Now, come on!”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
He wandered out into a more bustling street. As he was constantly pushed aside by hassled citizens, Beomgyu reflected that maybe walking was a bad idea. At least no one was really paying attention to him…
He was just wondering how far he had left to go to get to the carriage, when he realised that his guards had disappeared. He spun round, searching for Seojung and the other guy. Nowhere to be found. Frowning, he stood up on tiptoe, straining to look for any sight of them. He was all alone. In a strange street.
It was then that a chill crept over him. It was inexplainable: it was so terrifying and yet compelling at the same time. The feeling kept building up, causing him to feel colder, and colder, and he started to shake. Suddenly, a finger tapped his shoulder. Beomgyu spun around, panicked, and almost ran into a noble who stood right behind him. Looking up from the blue satin coat in front of him, Beomgyu relaxed. It was a noble he recognised- Lord Soobin.
Soobin widened his brown eyes and bowed. "Lord Beom- Your Greatness! What are you doing around here?"
"Oh, uh… just wanted to see how my citizens are doing!" he said brightly. "In a bit of an incognito, get-into-the-scene kind of way."
"Ah, I see," Soobin said, nodding. He watched as Beomgyu glanced around a few times, picking up on how distracted the royal was. "Um… don’t take this the wrong way, but… would you happen to be lost?"
Beomgyu chuckled awkwardly. "I think I may be," he said. "I seem to have lost my guards." He looked around again. "Yep. Definitely lost them."
"Well, it is not right for a monarch to be left undefended," Soobin said. "Would it suit you to perhaps take refuge in my home? I can send word to the palace that you are there, and then you can wait in my home until more guards arrive to take you back to court."
"Oh, if that's alright with you?" Beomgyu asked. "I wouldn't want to intrude."
"Oh, it's no intrusion if the King himself were to enter my humble abode," Soobin laughed. "My carriage is just a few streets away. Would you care to come?" Beomgyu scanned the streets again, in case his guards miraculously appeared.
"I gladly accept your offer," Beomgyu said, when it was clear that Seojung and Jisung were not there.
"Right this way, Your Greatness."
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Once the carriage pulled up into the gravel drive of Soobin's estate, the coachman opened the door for them before hurrying up to the front door to inform the butler to let Soobin in.
When the butler let them inside, Beomgyu whistled.
"'Humble abode'? Soobin, this is an extravagant abode. My, some of these decorations rival that of those in the palace."
Soobin chuckled. "Many thanks, Your Greatness. I have always had a taste for grandeur."
Beomgyu eyed the ceiling, which had elegant swirls engraved into its stone. He caught sight of the golden chandelier, which also had intricate designs along it's candelabras. "Evidently," he murmured. "How do you… how…"
"How can I afford this?" Soobin supplied. He carried on talking as they followed a footman into one of the tea rooms. "My family has a great inheritance. Also, I make money by creating flowers. If you look out of that window, you can see one of my greenhouses out in the garden."
Beomgyu leaned over, staring at the glass building. "Wow," he said. "I suppose one-of-a-kind flowers fetch a high price?"
"Indeed they do," Soobin said. "Tea or coffee?"
"Oh, I'm fine, thank you," Beomgyu said, waving away the attendant. He stared out of the window silently as Soobin calmly sipped his cup of tea. Soobin’s home was so pristine and perfect. It was like it was carved out of pure white marble, painted with the most lustrous gold, decorated with only the finest and most intricate hand. It was almost as if Soobin was the King with the lavish palace, and Beomgyu was the humble noble that had been invited for tea. Beomgyu couldn’t help but marvel at how wondrous it all was.
“Ah, yes,” Soobin said, setting down his cup. He beckoned over one of the footmen who stood outside the door to the room. “Send word to the palace that King Beomgyu is currently safe within my estate. Tell them to bring guards to Lord Soobin’s manor to come find the King.” The footman nodded, before scurrying off. The two of them sat in silence. Beomgyu glanced at the lord. He knew Soobin well enough; the two of them had been acquaintances when Beomgyu was still in court. Beomgyu, because of his faintly royal status, had been a higher noble than practically everyone else, so he’d talked to all of the lords before. Lord Soobin was a rank below him, so they had been reasonably amiable associates. However, he didn’t know the elder well enough to know which clan he came from, or even what his surname was.
“So…” Beomgyu tried, in an attempt to break the silence. “Um… How does it feel having such a young King as your monarch?”
Soobin looked at him. “Hm… well, at first it was a little odd. Everyone found it a little odd. We were expecting one of the Kangs to take the throne, after all, and yet it turned out to be a whole new clan. But if you think about it, had everything gone as the late King Seohu had planned, we would have had an eight year old on the throne.” Soobin leaned back, chuckling. “Now that would be even more odd than having a King who is a mere year younger than me.”
Beomgyu cracked a small grin. “I suppose it would be.” He frowned a little, thinking about the day. Remembering the sense of betrayal and anger he’d felt towards Taehyun. He remembered how his fury seemed to crackle within him. He also remembered the pure fear in Taehyun’s eyes when he growled at him after the Crown Handing. He deserved it, Beomgyu thought fiercely. He deserved all those harsh words, after everything he’s put me through.
Soobin suddenly laid his hand on top of Beomgyu’s where it rested on the table. He seemed to have mistook Beomgyu’s silence as being a troubled one. “It’s okay,” he said. “There is no need to worry. It’s why you made Kang Taehyun your vizier, isn’t it? His knowledge is incredible. He will help you navigate through your reign in the steadiest, smoothest way possible.”
“Thank you,” Beomgyu said, smiling weakly.
“Ah!” Soobin pushed a delicate ceramic plate of cakes towards Beomgyu. “Would you care to try some? They are infused with the essence of my very own flowers.”
Beomgyu looked at the small golden sponges. Each of them had gentle, purple-blue bruises of what must have been the flower essence. He was just about to reply when the footman knocked on the doorframe.
“Sir,” the man panted, bowing at Soobin and then Beomgyu. “The– the guards are here to take the King back to the palace.”
“Thank you,” Soobin said. “Well! It was nice finally talking to you again, Beomgyu. Ah, I mean Your Greatness. Gosh, it seems like only yesterday you were simply Lord Beomgyu. Oh, would you care to take the cakes back to the palace to try? It seems a shame to let them go to waste.”
Beomgyu felt there was no other answer he could give. “Of course, Lord Soobin. If you wouldn’t mind packaging them so they are fit for travel?”
A servant immediately stepped forward, taking the plate and putting it within a small basket, before bowing low and handing it to Beomgyu. He took it, and turned to Soobin.
“Well, I suppose I will be going then,” he said. “It was nice conversing with you, Lord Soobin. Thank you for briefly accommodating me as well.”
Soobin inclined his head. “It was my pleasure.”
Beomgyu stepped out of Soobin’s estate, walking up to a glowering Chan.
“Oh, so you’re coming to collect me?” Beomgyu asked curiously. “Where are Seojung and Jisung?”
Chan still continued to glare at Beomgyu.
“What?” he said. He spread his arms wide and gave a spin, showing his unharmed self from all angles. “Look, I’m not hurt. Nothing happened to me.”
Chan eyed him suspiciously. “Last time you said that, you’d managed to stab yourself in the finger,” he said. “Remember?”
Beomgyu sighed. “Are you really going to bring that up every day for the rest of my life? I told you, the knife fell. It wasn’t my fault.”
“Sure it wasn’t. And I am going to mention it every day, because this happened literally two days after you made me your personal guard.”
“I made you my personal guard because you were the only one out of all of them who I knew, and Taehyun made me choose someone. Also because you were like the most skilled out of all of them. But anyway, I promise that nothing went bad. I’m not injured. I didn’t accidentally fall on my own sword, and Soobin didn’t forcefeed me any poison. Seriously, this trip went fine.”
“If you say so, sire.”
“Yes, I do say so. Come on, let’s go back. Did you bring a carriage with you?”
.・゜-: ✧ :-
“Sir Taehyun, one of King Beomgyu’s guards are here to see you.”
Taehyun opened his door. “Oh Jisung. What’s Beomgyu done now?”
“Disappeared,” Jisung managed to force out, out of breath. “He- King Beomgyu- disappeared- there one minute- gone the next- we looked but- the King- gone-”
“Woah, catch your breath first,” Taehyun interrupted. “I can’t understand anything you’re saying.”
“King Beomgyu vanished. He- he wanted to see his old cottage,” Jisung panted. “When we were coming back, it had been raining and he didn’t want his shoes to get dirty by going on the obscure, mud path we’d taken, so we went through the town. And he- he disappeared. Uh, Sir Taehyun-?”
Taehyun’s eyes had grown wide in alarm and he’d stood up, running out of his room. Jisung hurried to catch up with him.
“Keep talking!” Taehyun called back to the guard. “How did he go missing?”
“I- I don’t know! It was a busy crowd, but the King- he’s taller than average so we could still see him. But su- suddenly he wasn’t there. In the literal blink of an eye, he’d dis- disappeared. It didn’t make sense!”
Taehyun let out a frustrated cry. “That stupid Beomgyu! Why would he go out?”
“Sir- Sir Taehyun? Where are you going?”
“My horse!” Taehyun yelled over his shoulder to Jisung. “I need to go find him!”
“Sir!” A messenger almost ran into Taehyun.
“Not now!” Taehyun brushed past the messenger. “I’m busy!”
The messenger stared helplessly as Taehyun ran past him. Then, he saw Jisung approach and turned to the guard. “Sir! I am a messenger from Lord Soobin’s estate! His Highness, King Beomgyu, is safe within Lord Soobin’s home. He requests someone to be sent to come escort the King back to the palace.”
Jisung widened his eyes and thanked the messenger, before renewing his chase after the vizier.
“Sir Taehyun!” he cried.
“What is it? Jisung I told you, I’m busy!”
“Beomgyu’s safe! He’s in Lord Soobin’s estate!”
“What?” Taehyun yelled. He’d turned the corner and almost tripped over his own feet in his haste. “What did you say?”
“Lord Soobin! Beomgyu’s with him!”
In his frazzled, panicked state, it took a while for Taehyun to register the guard’s words, but once he did, he visibly calmed. “Lord Soobin? He should be safe.” Almost instantly, his face darkened again. “Why the fuck he thought it’d be a good idea to step foot outside the palace, I have no idea…” He looked back at Jisung, who was still running up to Taehyun. He clicked his fingers at the guard. “Fetch Chan! Tell him to go to Lord Soobin’s estate to pick up King Beomgyu!”
Seamlessly, Jisung spun around on one foot and began sprinting back the way he’d come, going to inform Beomgyu’s other personal guard.
Taehyun watched Jisung retreat, and began storming to the front gates. Beomgyu had a lot to answer for.
.・゜-: ✧ :-
As the carriage drew up to the palace gates, Beomgyu’s stomach dropped. Shit. Taehyun was standing on the steps, arms crossed.
Beomgyu opened the door and stepped out onto the pebbled driveway, walking up to the vizier. Taehyun glowered at him.
“Just what,” he said, “just what do you think you were doing?”
Beomgyu sighed. For some reason he felt inexplicably weary. “Look, it’s not my fault I lost them okay? They should have protected me better.”
Taehyun’s fingernails dug into his arm. “How can you lose two guards? Just how? How is that even possible? They’re trained to be able to follow you no matter what. How can you lose them?”
“I don’t know, okay?” Beomgyu said, annoyed. Suddenly, all the tension dropped from his face and he rubbed his forehead with his hand. “Fine. I’m sorry. I should have been more responsible. But can we just… can we not do this? I don’t have the strength to.”
Indeed, now that Taehyun looked closer, Beomgyu didn’t look too great. It was practically the first time he’d seen Beomgyu in three weeks, and the King certainly did look rather tired and wan. And so, Taehyun relented. “Alright. But there’s something we need to talk about. Come on.”
Beomgyu gestured weakly. “Can I at least wash first?”
Taehyun looked at him. “Go on. I’ll be in the Meeting Hall.”
While the vizier strode away, back ramrod straight, Beomgyu slumped up the steps to the palace. Visiting his cottage had taken an emotional toll on him, a toll which was even more tiring than a physical one. Still, he dragged himself through the palace, wanting to get that meeting with Taehyun over and done with so he could go to sleep.
.・゜-: ✧ :-
Beomgyu sat himself down in the chair at the head of the table. Taehyun was already seated in the chair to the left of the head, arms crossed.
“So what do you want?” Beomgyu asked.
“Glad to see you’ve finally come out of hibernation,” Taehyun remarked. “I feared that I wouldn’t remember what you looked like.”
Beomgyu snorted sarcastically. “Sure you did.”
“Why did you go out anyway? You know the people are mad about the thing that you caused. Just why would you do that? It’s dangerous, it’s unsafe, if someone saw you and recognised you then–”
“I was homesick, okay?” Beomgyu interrupted. “I was homesick. This palace…” he gestured around at all the marble and gold. “This isn’t my home. It’s my accommodation. It’s the place I sleep and eat and live in, but it’s just not my home. It’s too large and cold and filled with judgy people. And I missed it. My cottage. My true home. My small cottage at the edge of the town, decorated with flowers and away from any accusing eyes. The little house I bought with my own money which I purposefully picked because it was far away from this hellhole. I wanted to get away from here, regardless of the dangers. I needed to get away from here.”
Taehyun frowned. “That doesn’t make sense. Here, you are well-fed and well-dressed and have all sorts of luxuries. Why would you want to go back to a run-down cottage far away from people?”
Beomgyu chuckled, looking down. “Right. You’ve lived here your whole life. You wouldn’t understand.” He looked up at Taehyun. “Just because I am fed and dressed and can sleep here doesn’t make it my home. I don’t fit in within the cold, marble structures of the court. It’s why I left.”
“I still don’t get it, but it doesn’t matter.” Taehyun crossed his arms. “Would you care to explain why you’ve been avoiding all of your duties for the past three- no, three and a half weeks?”
Beomgyu rubbed his forehead tiredly. “I didn’t want to do them. That’s it. That’s the only reason. The Lords had pissed me off, and the amount of things that needed to be taken care of…” His voice trailed off. “I just couldn't do it.”
That made Taehyun flare up. Beomgyu had only been thinking about himself! “Well what about me, hm? While you neglected your duties, who do you think had to step in and take on the tasks themselves? Who do you think had to go through all the things that you couldn’t be bothered to do, in addition to his own duties he needed to complete?”
Beomgyu’s eyes widened. “Oh my god, I– I completely forgot. Taehyun, oh god, I’m so sorry. I forgot that you’d have to do that for me. Wow, I… that was so selfish of me. I’m sorry.”
“You should be. Do you know how stressful it was to manage the court while you disappeared into your chambers? Do you know how hard it was to fend off any suspicious Lords, who were curious about where you’d gone?”
Beomgyu put his head facedown on the table. “Please, stop making me feel so guilty. I’m sorry, okay? I completely forgot.” He lifted his head to the side a little and spotted a basket sitting atop the wooden table. It was the basket filled with the cakes he'd gotten from Soobin. He must have unconsciously carried it with him into the Meeting Hall. Beomgyu lifted his hand and pushed the basket towards Taehyun. “Here,” he said. “My apology.” Taehyun looked at it suspiciously. “They’re just cakes,” Beomgyu sighed, sitting up. “I wouldn’t poison you.”
Taehyun reached forward to take the basket, lifting up the cloth. He pulled out the plate on which two, small cake slices still sat. Bringing the plate close to his face, Taehyun eyed the cakes.
They were of a cuboid-ish shape, and were a healthy yellow. The softness of the sponge’s colour contrasted with the purplish, bluish, bruise-like patterns embedded into the cake. He smelt the cake, still a little wary, but was pleasantly surprised to find they smelt like normal cakes. Beomgyu smiled bemusedly at the vizier’s antics. Taehyun looked at the cakes one last time. Then he shrugged. Eh, whatever. He popped a whole cake slice into his mouth.
Beomgyu had propped his chin up on his hand. “Nice?”
Taehyun nodded grudgingly, already lifting up the second cake. “Yeah. It’s nice.”
“Good to hear. Is… is it a good enough apology for you?”
Taehyun looked up, cheeks full of cake, and nodded.
“That’s good. No matter what you think, I don’t actually want to be hated by you, you know.”
Taehyun nodded absent-mindedly, chewing on the third slice of cake. Beomgyu smiled, endeared, as he noticed some crumbs on the corner of Taehyun’s mouth. He leaned forward and gently rubbed them away.
And just like that, something in the atmosphere shifted. Taehyun stared at him, eyes wide. He was suddenly hyper aware of Beomgyu’s gentle touch, the way his fingers grazed his cheek, and the way he was looking at him.
“You had a little something on your cheek,” Beomgyu said quietly. His eyes were suddenly incredibly soft, and he stared at Taehyun with such an indecipherable gaze. Taehyun’s ears grew uncomfortably warm and he moved away, out of reach of Beomgyu’s hands. Beomgyu quickly snapped back into his normal state, snatching his hand away. He coughed, sitting back in his seat.
Taehyun touched the corners of his mouth, now more than a little self-conscious. He didn’t know why his ears were suddenly burning up from that simple touch. He glanced at Beomgyu, and found he was staring at his own hand with a dazed look, as if he wasn’t sure about what he’d just done. But then, he coughed again, shifting in his seat. Taehyun quickly looked away. The silence dragged on between them for some time longer, before Taehyun finally spoke.
“Anyway, so are you going to come back?”
“Hm?”
“Are you coming back to court?” Taehyun said. “You know, coming back into your role as King.”
“Oh…” Beomgyu sighed. “I probably have to.”
“Good. There are some things which I need to talk to you about.”
“Can we talk about them some other time?” Beomgyu asked.
“What? No. I need to tell you as soon as possible.”
“Come on, can’t it wait?”
Taehyun frowned, and Beomgyu quickly carried on speaking before he could interrupt. “Please. I haven’t recovered from the revel. I know, I know. It's practically been a month now. I know. Call me weak, call me pathetic. But… being told I’m not good enough, and that I’m a fraud, it just…” Beomgyu clutched his hands to his chest. “That really hurt. It really, really hurt.”
He brought his hands into his lap, looking down at his clenched fists. “Also, I just came back from a really emotional experience. I saw my old house again, I went outside again. Lots of memories came flooding back to me, and I need time to process. Also, I almost became lost. That in itself is a traumatic experience.”
Beomgyu sighed, playing with his fingers.. “Going back, seeing my house… I was reminded of the times I was really happy, the times when I could be free, and be myself, within my small cottage. I was content. But I also remembered the underlying sadness which haunted everything I did– the fact that I’d had to leave you. It broke my heart, did you know that? Because you and I... we were so close, and even if we'd parted on bad terms, it still hurt me to leave you. It was like I was leaving a part of myself, and even if sadness wasn't the predominant emotion, it was still there. But then, I was also reminded of the fact that you didn’t object to me leaving, and even accepted it. In those few hours I was at my cottage today, I went through about hundred and one emotions during that short time. Happiness, sadness, anger, confusion, shock… Please understand, I am not mentally prepared to have any sort of political talk right now.”
Throughout that whole time, Taehyun didn’t say a word once. Beomgyu, confused by the vizier’s silence, looked up, and all the colour drained out of his face. “Oh my god, Taehyun!”

dreamland {hirako shinji fic}
- summary -
shinji had forgotten about the girl he grew up with in rukongai, until she waltzed right into his quarters with the last person he'd expect, his fukutaicho, aizen sosuke.
content warning: when life hands ya lemons, ya put 'em in ya story. this is gonna be a mature fic. not sure what the full extent of that will be, but there's definitely gonna be some crude language. yoruichi and urahara are swingers. it's gonna be a grand ol time.
{consider the Glass Animals album "Dreamland" the soundtrack for this book}
Tumblr media
Chapter One
"Taicho," Aizen bowed as he entered his Captain's quarters.
"Always so formal, Sosuke-kun. What is it?" Shinji sat on his futon with his eyes closed, head against the wall, listening to the jazz from his Living World record player.
"I was wondering if I might have permission to move a guest into my quarters, sir," Aizen asked, kneeling in front of his captain.
Shinji opened one eye and raised an eyebrow. "Eh? Move someone in? From outside Seireitei?"
"Hai."
"Well, I'm gonna need more information than that if I'm to even consider granting such an odd request. Who is it?" Shinji asked. His lieutenant had always been incredibly private, to be fair, so had Shinji, but this was rather uncharacteristic of Aizen.
"My girlfriend."
---
"I can't believe he said yes, Sosuke-kun! How exciting. I'll grab my things immediately." Ayame began grabbing robes from her closet and shoving then in a bag.
Aizen reached out and grabbed her arm firmly. "Listen to me, Ayame. You must treat every person in Seireitei with the utmost respect. They are in a class above you and you must behave as such. Do you hear me?"
Ayame nodded, trying to loosen her boyfriend's grip. "Yes, Aizen-kun."
"If you slip up even one time I will have no choice but to send you back here, are we clear?" His grip remained.
Ayame's eyes fixed on the floor. "Yes, Aizen-kun."
"Good." He removed his hand. "Now finish packing, we leave in an hour." He flash-stepped away.
Ayame sighed and continued to pack. Is this really the best idea, she asked herself. She had been with Aizen for three years, but had never gotten used to his coldness. She looked around her room.
She was going to miss this place. Her floor was littered with buckets to catch the leaks when it rained, but it was still home. It was still the first place she could afford with money she earned, thanks to Aizen.
He was a dream, at first. They met when he was on a mission to the outer Rukongai district, where she was a makeshift house mother for a particularly rowdy group of boys. He helped her find a job and save enough money to move into her own house, although it was rather worn down. He's done so much for you, don't be ungrateful. You know how much his reputation means to him. Besides, do you want to live in this leaky shack forever? This is your chance to move up.
Ayame finished packing her belongings then locked up her house for the last time. She set the key on the ground in front for the landlord and headed towards the West Gate.
"Today the big day?" Sato, the old baker next door, asked.
Ayame turned to him with a smile. "Yes, Jii-san."
"Good luck to you! Oh, and if you see that Hirako rascal, give him hell for leaving you here alone, will ya?" he called.
"Seireitei is a large place, Jiisan. I doubt I'll run into him, and I doubt he'd remember me. That was two hundred years ago," Ayame said, her smile fading.
"Well, if you do."
"As you wish. Farewell, Sato-san! Thank you for all of your help." Ayame bowed before continuing to walk.
When she neared the gate, Aizen's reitsu began to overwhelm her senses.
"Boo."
Ayame turned around, less than startled. "Take this bag. I'm tired of carrying everything."
Aizen chuckled. "Hello to you, too." He grabbed the bag from her outstretched arm.
---
Ayame unrolled her futon and positioned it near Aizen's. She set her pillow and folded blanket on top.
"All moved in!" Aizen said, wrapping her in a hug from behind. "How does it feel?"
She took a deep breath, shifting the weight in her feet. This was her home now. "The energy is different from Rukongai."
"Better, right?" he asked with a cool tone.
Ayame turned to face her boyfriend and grabbed his hands. "Much better. I feel like I can breathe here."
Aizen's hardened expression softened as Ayame's green eyes looked up at him. He lifted her chin with his finger and kissed her gently.
"I'm glad you like it. Now that we're settled, I need to introduce you to the captain of my squad."
"The Blond Bastard, as you like to call him?" Ayame asked, stifling a smirk.
"Yeah, that's him," Aizen replied, sliding his door open.
"Does he have a real name?"
"Taicho. That's the only one that should matter to you," he said. He started walking to his Captain's quarters.
Ayame stepped out of the room and slid the door shut behind her before following after her boyfriend. They walked in silence.
"Ah, Aizen-kun. This must be the girlfriend your Captain was telling me about," a deep but friendly voice said.
The couple turned to face a man in a pink floral robe with a large straw hat. Aizen bowed.
"Kyoraku-taicho," he said. "This is Ayame."
Ayame bowed lightly, before smiling at the man.
"Very good to meet you. Always a pleasure to see another beautiful woman joining our ranks," Kyoraku grinned.
"Thank you, taicho," she replied, her cheeks flushing.
"You better hurry along and introduce her. You know how impatient he is," Kyoraku tipped his hat with a wink. "I'll be seeing you!"
"Taicho," Aizen said with a deep bow as the man walked away. He turned to face Ayame. "That was the captain of the eighth squad, Kyoraku Shunsui. We're almost at my Captain's quarters. His is the last door at the end of this hall."
The couple quickly made their way to the door. Jazz music could be heard from behind the wood.
"Taicho, may I enter?"
They heard a shuffle, something drop, and footsteps before the door slid open. Ayame could smell fragrant incense coming from the room as she bowed deeply.
"How many times do I have to tell ya, Sosuke-kun, ya can just call me Shinji," the blond captain said, scratching his head. "Oh! This must be yer girl-"
He stopped short and his eyes widened when he saw Ayame's face.
"Yes, this is my girlfriend, Aya-" Aizen started.
"I can't believe it," Ayame said, stepping closer to the door as she made eye contact with the blond captain. "Hirako?"
Shinji pushed past his lieutenant and grabbed the blue-haired girl's shoulders. "You?"
Ayame turned to her boyfriend. "You didn't tell me 'The Blond Bastard' was Shinji Hirako!"
Aizen glared at Ayame. "I didn't realize you knew each other."
Shinji shot a look that could kill at his lieutenant. "Back in the day, this 'blond bastard' lived in Rukongai."
"We grew up together," Ayame said bitterly.
"Come in, let me pour some tea," Shinji said, putting his hand on her back, guiding her into his room. Aizen trailed behind.
Shinji closed the door behind them and gestured to the futon. "Both of ya, make yerselves comfortable!"
Ayame sat down, cross-legged, and gestured for her boyfriend to do the same. Shinji picked up a candle that was on the ground, presumably the object that the couple heard fall, and turned down his record player.
Shinji filled a kettle with water and tea leaves and set it on the stove to boil. Ayame watched him in disbelief. He was a captain, just like he'd always dreamed of being. As children, they spent many hours in the woods fighting one another with sticks. Shinji talked ceaselessly about how he'd be the best captain in all of Seireitei, and here he was.
"You never told me you grew up with a Captain-class Shinigami," Aizen hissed in Ayame's ear.
"I never knew," she responded. "He left without a word."
"So, darlin', when'd ya dye yer hair blue? It's a nice touch, stands out more than the brown," Shinji asked, carrying three cups and the tea pot. He sat across from them on the floor. He reached and grabbed a strand in his hands. "I like the color. Very shiny."
"And you had brown hair?" Aizen asked, as he watched Shinji pouring the tea.
"Yes, I dyed it to set myself apart. I didn't like blending in with everyone in the district," Ayame shrugged, sipping the tea Shinji handed to her.
"I get the sentiment, but ya never blended in," Shinji laughed. "They were always scared of ya."
Aizen's brows furrowed. He took a sip.
"I was pretty rambunctious as a kid. Always beating up the bullies who'd pick on this blond bag of bones."
"Geez, first I'm a blond bastard and now I'm a bag of bones? Needa get better friends," Shinji whined, rubbing his shoulder.
"Or maybe you shouldn't abandon them," Ayame responded, crossing her arms.
"Darlin', it wasn't like that," Shinji said, his posture stiffening.
Aizen face remained unchanged at his Captain's use of the pet name.
"You could've come back, to see me, maybe when you finished the academy. But you didn't." Ayame stood and set her cup of tea on the desk next to the record player. "Sosuke-kun, let's go. I can't be here anymore."
"I agree." Aizen stood and opened the door, stepping out. "Thank you for tea, Taicho," he said with a bow."
Shinji stood and grabbed Ayame's wrist. "Ayame, wait."
Ayame turned to face him. "Yes?" she hissed.
"Come see me again, please. My door is always open to ya," Shinji said gently.
Ayame could see the sincerity and sorrow in his eyes. "Maybe, Hirako." She tried to pull her wrist free from his grip. "Shinji?"
Shinji's eyes darkened and he spoke with a lowered tone. "If he doesn't treat ya well, he'll have hell to pay."
Ayame pulled her wrist free and nodded slightly. "Good bye, Shinji. Maybe I'll see you around."

Post-Game Cuddles | Nikaidou Harunobu x Reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
Reader gender: Gender neutral
Description: Reader cuddling with Nikaidou after a shogi match
Requests: Open!
“Y/N! Y/N! Did you watch my match?!” Nikaidou asked, excitedly running up to you and pulling you into a hug.
“Of course,” you smiled, giving Nikaidou a small pat on the back. “You did amazing.”
As soon as you said this, Nikaidou pulled away from you and a look of excitement filled his eyes. He had always loved it when you watched his matches, and he loved it even more when you complimented his skills.
“Y/N! You’re so nice!” he said, pulling you back in for another hug.
“I’m just telling the truth,” you said, embracing him for one last moment before pulling away. “Also, Nikaidou, I should really get going. I think it’s starting to rain.”
You grabbed the umbrella that you had kept in your bag in case of emergencies and headed towards the exit of the shogi hall. As you did this, however, Nikaidou followed you out the building. You turned around and faced him.
“Nikaidou, aren’t you going to go home with Mister Hanaoka? Isn’t he waiting for you inside?”
“I told him not to come pick me up because I’m going with you!” he exclaimed, puffing his chest up.
You giggled a bit before responding with, “We never agreed that you were going to come over to my place, but it’s okay I guess.”
He pumped his arms in the air to show his excitement, before grabbing your hand and leading you outside in the falling rain.
When you two finally arrived at your house, you were both a bit wet.
“Y/N, we should run through the rain again some time!”
“Nikaidou, we got wet even though we used an umbrella,” you responded, shaking your umbrella. “It’s probably not gonna be a good idea to do that again.”
Nikaidou just giggled at your response and started taking his shoes off. You sighed and smiled. Though he was childish at times, you were truly in love with this man.
“Would you like some tea, Nikaidou?”
“Yes! Thanks, Y/N!”
You just hummed in response and quickly entered the kitchen, where you turned on the water boiler.
You walked inside the living room to find your boyfriend laying on the couch, a pillow over his face. As soon as he heard you enter the room, he removed the pillow and grinned.
“Come lay down with me Y/N.” He said, making grabby motions with his hands.
You flopped onto the couch next to him and laid your head on his chest. Nikaidou put his arms around you, and you put your hands over his.
After staying like that for a while, you spoke.
“Well, this is nice.”
“It sure is.” Nikaidou whispered, running his thumb over your fingers.
“Hey... Y/N?” Nikaidou spoke up, after a bit of more silence.
“Yes?”
“Do you remember when we first met?”
“Of course,” you giggled, playing with your boyfriend’s hair. “Kiriyama invited us both to the river and introduced us. You almost fell into the river too.”
“Yep,” Nikaidou said, laughing a bit. “I can’t believe that we’re both adults now, and that we’re dating.”
“I can’t believe it either,” you whispered, looking up at the ceiling. “But I’m glad it happened. I truly enjoy spending time with you.”
“I feel the same way, Y/N.”
The rest of the evening continued with you two cuddling and talking about fond memories with each other. The boiled water was long forgotten, but who cares? You two were happy right now, and that was all that mattered.

A/n: So this is Jongin from my story Brimstone and an OC, as well as a sequel to Gimme Shelter, with reader from that story. Idk why I’m doing this complicated shit guys it just be like that sometimes. Jimin from Brimstone and this will have his own story with reader from Brimstone coming up called Inferno.
Tumblr media
Warnings: Possessive Taehyung, desperate clothes half off sex, unprotected sex, creampie, overstimulation, some violence in Jongin’s backstory, big angst, Taemin drinking his feelings so alcohol tw
Word Count: 4465
Jongin can't help but be a bit nervous when he's summoned.
The last time he'd been with a human woman....well, it certainly hadn't ended well.
He would have been perfectly okay with working in the mines of hell to pay his debts, but Taemin had something different in mind.
"You'll go to her alone tonight, yeah?"
Jimin makes a sound of protest but Taemin just shoots him a look and Jimin quiets, although he's pouting.
"You think I'm ready?"
Taemin brushes his hair back, sighing. He looks like he hasn't slept. "You're ready. I've got...business to take care of, and you could use the practice."
Jongin's approaching your door when Jimin slips in front of him.
"Take the night off."
Jongin raises an eyebrow. "I work for Taemin, not you."
Jimin smiles disarmingly. "I know, but I'm offering to take your place. Don't you deserve to do a little sightseeing? Angels don't get down here much, right?"
"I've seen enough," Jongin mumbles, and a pair of bright eyes flash in his memory, making his breath catch.
Jimin's smile fades a little.
"Listen, Jongin, I'll level with you. Taemin is distracted by his old flame and you…. you're kind of a pushover."
Jongin makes a distressed sound in the back of his throat.
"It's true," Jimin continues. "And the thing is….I like this human."
"Our human," Jongin corrects, and Jimin's face grows serious.
"I want her to be my human. And if you help me, I'll tell you a secret."
Jongin thinks for a minute. "What kind of secret?"
"One that will help you lessen your debt significantly."
"Fine, but you're taking the heat from Taemin."
Jimin grins. "So, I've heard there's a new angel that recently fell. Sounds like he has a similar story to yours. Maybe you could teach him the ropes, so to speak."
"You mean try to tempt him?"
Jimin sighs. "I'm not gonna spell it out for you. Consider it a helping hand. He should know how humans really are."
Jongin leaves Jimin with an address and a bit of a dilemma.
It isn't as if he'd wanted to spend most of eternity working for demon royalty. When he'd fallen, it'd been for a reason, one he tried his best not to think about. He didn't care about tempting mortals or taking souls or even lessening his debt.
But...if this former angel was in the same situation he was ...he could warn him.
When he arrives at the address he knocks, feeling odd about just appearing, and a man with a furrowed brow answers. The face is familiar, and Jongin smiles.
"Hello, Taehyung."
"Jongin? What...what are you doing here?"
"I heard you took the plunge. Thought maybe I could help."
Taehyung is still frowning when Jongin slips past him.
"What happened to you? You just disappeared one day."
Jongin sits at the table. "You think you're the first one to fall for your ward? You had it easy with yours, you know. Mine wasn't nearly as careful."
Taehyung sits, and Jongin starts his story, allowing him to get lost in his memories.
That was an understatement. Jongin's assignment was Maria, the sister of a low-level thug. She worked as a bartender and Jongin watched her like a hawk. The first human emotions he felt through her were fear and anxiety. She'd grown up around guns and drugs and violence and it was work, protecting her.
He'd filled out all the paperwork for a visit and been approved right away, as she was in almost constant danger.
He'd followed every rule. Except one.
She'd been so afraid when he'd first appeared, scrambling under her bed, and he'd sat on the floor for hours, talking to her in a low, calm voice, until she crawled out to talk to him.
It'd been like taking care of a wounded animal, slow, careful. She'd get a bit closer every hour until eventually, she fell asleep, her head on his shoulder, and Jongin would never forget how that felt, watching her sleep, how proud he felt that she finally felt safe enough to rest.
The first time she kissed him, he had thought his heart would burst.
The first time he thought about falling was when she moaned into his mouth, clutching at his chest, a moment later.
The actual decision to fall had never been much of a decision in the first place. It'd been just a few days later, when he'd been gearing up to leave, thinking he'd made her safe, trying to tell himself he could handle just watching when he knew what her skin felt like beneath his hands.
She'd run out for soju, telling him she wanted to celebrate cutting ties with her brother like he'd wanted.
He'd felt the gunshot before he heard it, and that's when he'd felt that tug, the pull back home, and he fought like mad when he'd been yanked back to heaven, screaming and kicking at Namjoon.
"Listen to me, Jongin. Listen! You can't help her if you-"
But it was too late, he'd already chosen, and he'd ignored the way humanity fell down on him like a hammer, how he felt the sudden weight of bones and flesh just to get to her.
She'd been gasping for air, and he doesn't realize that the fluid sticking to his palms is blood until much later.
He had thought it was raining until he realizes he's crying and Maria gasped out his name and she's dying and no one will answer him, he's calling to heaven, his brothers, and they've forsaken him because he'd fought his way back, because he'd fallen in love, let himself be tainted.
It was only moments before he goes the other way, hands shaking as he makes the pentagram with her blood, mumbling half-forgotten Latin.
It was Taemin, of course, who had come.
And he'd saved her. He'd saved her and damned him and Jongin was still grateful, despite what had happened next.
🔥
Taehyung is blinking, mouth open.
"Jongin…. I'm…. I'm sorry. I would've done the same."
Jongin's mouth twists in a bitter grin.
"That's the thing, Taehyung. You shouldn't."
Taehyung cocks his head, confused, and Jongin sighs. Taehyung looks tired, as if he's still having trouble sleeping, as if he's still adjusting to humanity.
"Humans… They don't love like we do. They don't understand forever. Don't you wonder why you feel things so strongly now? They burn so brightly because they burn out so quickly. They can't help being fickle."
Taehyung frowns, all still, and Jongin can tell he’s still adjusting, uncomfortable in his skin, fidgeting a little because he’s anxious.
It brings a lot back to him.
“Fickle?” Taehyung asks, and Jongin continues.
🔥
It didn’t happen all at once.
Maria was healed, and everything should have been fine. Everything was fine, Jongin kept telling himself. Everything was just fine, as it should be, with Maria sleeping on his chest at night, and him afraid to sleep for the nightmares where she’s bleeding and dying again.
He wakes up reaching for her, panic rising in his throat when she isn’t there, when she’s gotten up to get tea or go to the bathroom.
Jongin tries his best to hide it, how worried he is when she’s not in his sight.
He’d been watching her for years, after all, able to see her every move, and it was so...so different now.
Now he doesn’t see what she’s doing, doesn’t feel what she feels.
He feels a lot, feels too much, all these emotions wreaking havoc on his new human body. He’s plagued with nightmares, migraines, insomnia ...he's barely able to keep food down the first week.
He’d read human literature, talking about the heart, about heartbreak, but he’d found he felt most emotions in his gut, making his stomach roll, or in his throat, panic seeming to tighten it until he’s breathing through a pinhole. He tries to hide it, how hard it is to be made of nothing but skin and bone and feelings.
Maria does try to help, crooning to him when he wakes up whimpering and reaching out for her. She's patient with him when he grows jealous, when she goes out to lunch, when he can't see her.
It makes him wild, anxious, pacing around the kitchen.
When she comes home with a mark on her throat he didn't leave, he can't breathe, excuses himself to go to the bathroom where he lets himself feel it, hyperventilating, ending up sitting in front of the toilet and throwing up bile like he's purging all the jealousy and rage and pain.
He doesn't feel like he can breathe again until she's wiping his face with a cool cloth, voice low and soothing.
She doesn't ask him what's wrong and later, when he grabs her, kisses her hard, bruising her lips, leaving his own marks on her throat, her inner thighs, the curve of her hip, she doesn't protest.
It's gradual, how she slips away, and it feels like his breastbone has cracked when she turns away from him in the night, and he tries to hold her anyway but where she had been soft before she feels like hard lines now, like her skin is suddenly foreign to his touch.
It isn't right, it feels wrong somewhere in his bones, panic rising in him every time she walks out the door.
Jongin is confused by the mix of emotions he feels when she stays gone all night a few months later. There's panic and fear but mostly, anger and he doesn't know what to do with it.
He wants to break things, yell, and it doesn't hit him until she walks in the door that all of that rage is because he wants so badly to fight for her but he doesn't know how.
His throat tightens when he tries to speak, and it comes out weak and strangled.
"Where have you been, Jagiya?"
"Jongin…."
Tears are already rolling down her cheeks and there are rocks in his stomach.
His limbs feel heavy, throat so tight he can barely breathe, as she explains.
She's sobbing when she apologizes, tells him she didn't mean for any of this to happen and he can have the apartment, that she wants to be friends, wants to help him.
He laughs at that, a bitter sound low in his throat.
"I sold my soul for you, Jagiya."
She's crying so hard and he hates hates hates her but mostly he hates himself for wanting to hold her, wanting to beg her not to go.
He wants to ask her who he is, ask her why, ask her what he'd done wrong, but none of that matters, in the end.
"She...she left?" Taehyung asks, mouth hanging open.
"No. I did. I left and went to Taemin, started trying to pay down my debt."
"My girl wouldn't do that. She'd never do that." Taehyung says, firmly, but his lip is trembling.
Jongin just looks at him, suddenly tired from telling the story, from all the stupid human emotions it brought up. "For your sake, I hope not."
In the end, he isn't there to tempt him. He just wants to warn him. Wants to prepare him for the way humans are, how their love fades.
He leaves his former colleague sitting shell shocked at the table, finds himself walking around familiar streets with her on his mind, and he’s not even quite surprised when he sees her.
🔥
Taehyung doesn't know how to feel about all this, he'd never considered the possibility that this could end, that you might leave, and he's so overwhelmed that for a while, he feels blissfully numb.
It isn't until over an hour passes and you're still not home that Jongin's story echoes in his mind, and then his breath starts to shorten, pulse pounding in his temples when he thinks of possible parallels.
By the time you come in with the groceries, his heart is racing and he takes the bags from you, tosses them on the counter, and corners you against the door as it swings shut.
"Where have you been?" His voice is low, much calmer than he'd expected, because he's looking at how your hair has fallen out of the tight bun it was in and wondering if someone had run their hands through it, and his blood is boiling.
You frown up at him. "I've been getting groceries? I wanted to cook-"
Taehyung isn't used to not knowing exactly what his body will do next, and his eyes are on the line of your throat, looking for marks, and when he finds none but his own he leans down and bites at the side of your throat, right over the raised scar he'd left.
Before, he'd felt guilt for marking you for life, kissed it softly, but tonight he's proud, tonight his head is chanting, mine mine mine and when you moan out his name, he's rock hard beneath the new sweats you'd bought him.
He realizes that he hasn't made love to you since he'd fallen, that he'd been too busy adjusting, and God, what did humans do with all this lust? There's something like angelfire under his skin, blood pulsing through his cock, balls tightening with need and he's almost snarling when he kisses you, his teeth catching your lip, iron on his tongue.
It's like being hungry, like starving, and he's got to have your cunt pulsing around him or he feels like his head might explode with all his racing thoughts.
He lifts you up by your hips, groceries discarded, but you're moaning against his mouth and he can't make it to the bedroom, bunching up your dress and ripping your cotton panties to get his hand cupping your sex.
"Taehyung," you gasp out, and he loves his name on your lips, loves how hot your cunt is when he dips two fingers inside and all he can think is that he'd lose his mind if anyone else did this to you. He could remember it all, now, the men who'd come before him, when he'd had to watch, and rage pulses in his temples.
He pulls away from marking up your throat to see your face.
"Say it again,"  He rasps, and replaces his fingers with his cock, thrusting up into you hard, something like a growl coming from his throat.
"Taehyung," you say again, almost breathless, and he doesn't know why tears spring to his eyes.
"You wouldn't leave me, Jagi?" He hears the desperation in his voice and he hates it. His whole body aches to start fucking you, hips twitching, cock pulsing but his chest hurts and he needs to hear you say it.
"Baby. Taehyung…"
You take his face in your hands, rolling your hips as you kiss him and his cry is muffled by your mouth.
He'd thought that making love to you when he still had his wings was overwhelming but this..how hot and slick you were around him, how your cunt sucked at him when he started to move...this blotted out everything else, all the fear and rage until there was nothing but need.
"Ah, Jagiya...fuck…" He's surprised to hear himself groaning out the curse word he's heard from your lips in moments, fucking you so hard your back is sliding up and down the wall.
You're whimpering, rolling your hips against his, and when you come he groans your name, babbling sudden praises, barely able to string a sentence together.
"Ah, so good, Jagi, your cunt, fuck... I'm gonna fill you up, don't want you to shower...want to be leaking out of you all day, yeah?"
You cry out and clench around him and his balls seize up and black spots appear in front of his eyes when he comes, letting out that feral growl again, thrusting into you once, twice, sliding you up the wall.
He's shocked at himself when he keeps fucking you, his come making you slick and sloppy, and it hurts almost as much as it feels good but isn't that what love is? Love is wrapped up in pain just as much as pleasure and Taehyung wants to embrace it because it's you and he's left everything he knows and you're all he has and because loving you is like breathing, he's done it for so long now.
You're just whining and kissing him over and over when he lifts you, takes you to the bed, being careful not to slip out of you.
"God," you whimper, clutching at his back, still careful around the scars where his wings were torn off, "Tae... what's gotten into you?"
He grunts, not knowing how to answer, kissing you hard again, hips moving so fast his abdominal muscles are straining.
Pain is giving way to just pleasure and he needs to come again but he also needs to keep fucking you until he doesn't want to scream thinking of someone else's hands on you, someone who could take you away and leave him fallen and broken and alone.
"Tae, Tae, Tae," you chant, bucking your hips and it's over before he wants it to be, he's spilling another load inside you and moaning against your mouth.
When he pulls out he cups his hand against your cunt again as if to keep you full of him, possessive, wanting to mark you everywhere as his.
"Baby?" You ask when he's lying on his back, exhausted, muscles aching from overexertion.
He hums a little, breathing hard, trying to give you a smile, but it's weak.
"What's wrong?"
His throat works and he rolls over to look at you. It's quick, how the anger rises again, how the thoughts come right back like they'd just been lurking at the back of his head.
"Where were you?"
"Tae, I told you…"
"How do I know that's the truth? How do I know when I can't see you?" He bursts out, frustrated, gnawing at his bottom lip.
You frown, eyes flashing. "You trust me."
"How? How do I do that, Jagi?"
“I know this is hard, Taehyung. I know it’s hard but you trust me because you love me.”
“When you went out, before all this, before I fell, you were always meeting someone,” he blurts.
You’ve got your jaw clenched, chin jutting out like it did when you were angry and he wants to take it back, has panic scratching at his insides.
“Are you calling me a whore, Taehyung?” You say, softly, sitting up on the bed and he holds his hands out to put them on your arms and when you pull away it’s like a punch to the gut.
“No. No, I just…” He can’t find the words to explain what he means.
He watches you, a lump in his throat, as you get dressed.
“Where are you going?” It’s a hoarse cry and he’s scrambling off the bed, not caring that he’s naked when he follows you into the kitchen.
“Out,” you bark, and he follows you to the door, drops to his knees in front of you because there’s no more dignity or pride left in him, not after today.
“Don’t,” he gasps, feeling like he can’t breathe, clutching at your dress, and when you try and tug it away he just grasps harder, a sob catching in his throat. “Don’t, please, Jagiya...Y/n...don’t leave me.”
Your eyes soften when you look down at him. “It’s okay, Tae. I just...I need a minute.”
But he’s too far gone, sobbing, face pressed into your stomach. “I don’t know how to do this without you, Jagi. I don’t know how to do anything without you. Don’t leave me alone, please-”
“I’ll..I’ll be back, Tae, just...just give me a few minutes.”
You finally wrench yourself away and walk out and if he had the strength he’d follow you out, naked and vulnerable, but he can’t do anything but put his face in his hands and cry because it’s all too much, the crack in his chest, the ache in his throat, how his stomach feels sick.
By the time you come back, he’s lost hope entirely.
🔥
Jongin doesn't realize he's at the bar Maria had worked at until he looks up to see the neon sign, and he lets out a long breath.
She's standing outside, back leaned against the brick, and she drops the cigarette she was about to light when she sees him, crying out his name.
Jongin had thought it would hurt less now, hearing his name on her lips after all this time, two years further corrupting his soul with tasks Taemin assigned.
Instead, it's like she's snared him through the heart, and there's a line drawing him to her.
He picks up her cigarette and pops it in his mouth, leans toward her, and she lights it with a shaking hand.
"Where...where have you been?" She asks in a broken voice, and he laughs before taking a long drag.
"In hell, mostly."
Maria’s throat is working, and Jongin watches the long line of her neck, finds her unmarked, and he hates how much that pleases him, after everything.
“I’m sorry,” she says brokenly, and tears are standing in her eyes and why does that still hurt him? Why does that still put an arrow through his heart? It makes him angry, how much he wants to hate her and can’t, how much his throat aches with longing.
“You’ve said that before.”
“It was all for nothing. He’s gone and you’re in hell and it was all for nothing,” she chokes out.
The cigarette tastes like ash in his mouth already and he throws it into the night, watching the ember as it hits the street, sighing.
He touches her face and she lets out a little whimper in the back of her throat. God, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts to be this close, smell her scent, her eyes big and liquid and searching his face and when he kisses her mouth it’s bittersweet.
“You’re still breathing, yeah?” He says softly when he pulls away. “You’re still breathing. It wasn’t for nothing. That’s all that matters.”
He hears a sob catch in her chest when he begins to walk away, and there’s that thread again, that pull to her, but he fights it, fights it and the tears that spring to his eyes and descends to hell in a flame.
🔥
You return after only a couple of hours, a little bundle in your arms, and when you walk in, your heart falls.
Taehyung sits on the floor next to the door, where you’d left him, arms wrapped around his knees, still hiccuping sobs.
“Oh...baby. Baby, I’m sorry.”
He looks up at you as if he’s not quite sure you’re really there and then he clutches at you as you sit down in front of him, tries to take your hands but you’ve got this little bundle.
“It’s okay,” he says hoarsely, gasping in a breath as if he’s been holding it since you’d left. “It’s okay, whatever it is, Jagi, I don’t care, I don’t care if there’s someone else or if-”
His face looks so stricken when you shake your head, as if you’d punched him in the throat, and you hum out comforts.
“No, no, Tae, everything’s okay. There’s no one else.” You chuckle. “Well, except this little guy.”
Taehyung frowns when you unwrap the bundle to reveal a little fluff ball of a puppy, whimpering when he peeks out his head from the blanket you’d had him in.
“Wh...what is that?” Taehyung asks as if scandalized, and you laugh again and his face is wet but he smiles a little shakily back at you.
“It’s a puppy. I found him crying behind our apartment and I thought...I thought he could be your friend, someone to help you when I have to go out. I’ve named him Yeontan.”
Taehyung looks skeptical, so you hand him the little bundle and he brings the puppy close to his face.
The puppy lets out a little bark and Taehyung jumps, but then Yeontan licks at his nose and a big boxy smile breaks out across his face.
“I guess...I guess I could use a friend,” he says softly and cradles the puppy in his arms.
It’s isn’t as if it’s easy, after that, but it helps, you come home and find Taehyung anxious but with Yeontan sitting next to him on the couch, giving you a bark as if he’s expecting praise for protecting him while you were away.
It makes you smile, how when you have to work late, Yeontan curls up on the bed next to Taehyung, and when you slide into bed beside them the puppy always moves to the foot of the bed so that Taehyung can wrap his arms around you.
It makes you smile, the way you’d found Yeontan almost as if it’d been meant to be, and you wonder for a moment if dogs could be guardian angels like Taehyung used to be.
🔥
Taemin blinks when he sees Jongin, and his smile is slow and his eyes glassy, glass of brown liquid in his hand.
“You look like you need a drink,” he says, and his words aren’t slurred but it’s a near thing.
Jongin is shocked, in the two years he’s been working for him he’s never seen him had more than a single drink, and he’d been sure Taemin would be furious that he’d disobeyed orders.
“Are you...are you drunk?”
“Not drunk enough,” Taemin mumbles, and stands a bit unsteadily to pour Jongin a drink.
Jongin sits down on the stool next to him, suddenly exhausted.
“What happened to you?” Jongin asks, still a little shocked.
“A woman,” Taemin says, as he hands him a glass more than half full with liquor, mouth twisting in a bitter smile.
Jongin barks out a laugh. “We have more in common than I thought.”
Taemin sits down in his chair, curling the fingers of one hand around the arm and taking a gulp of his drink with the other.
“Well, then. Tell me all about it, yeah? I could use a distraction.”

Mystic Sisters- Ch.4 You & I
Tumblr media
Yua’s pov
Every. Single. Day. I saw Haru at school, or at the train or at Mystic cafe. Wherever I went it seemed he was there too. It was hell running into him everywhere. I swear he’s stalking me at this point.  I tried avoiding him but he always popped up unexpectedly looking into my eyes the same way he used to. Weeks went by without either of us saying a word, we just stared at each other not knowing who would make the first move. Today was another day of us not talking to each other. I sat in the corner at Mystic cafe sipping on a iced tea waiting for my sister to finish
her shift. After Haru ordered his food he made small talk with my sister. He said something to make her laugh and I rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to my tea.
“I’ll be back in 10 minutes” he told Hikari then walked out of the cafe still laughing at whatever they were talking about.
“ Haru!” I called out as I followed him out of the cafe.
He stopped and turned around to face me but stayed completely silent.
“Oh so you're not gonna say anything?” I said getting irritated.
“What do you want me to say?” He said like he did nothing wrong.
“I just want an explanation on why you left.”
“I don’t need to give an explanation.”
“Why do you always do this? You run away when things get tough. You've been back for weeks but haven't said one word to me.” I yelled out of frustration.
Haru said nothing, he just looked at his watch, went back to the cafe and grabbed his food and walked past me like nothing.
“You're such a jerk and I hate you Haru. I fucking hate your guts!” I cried out looking at his back. It was like I was talking to a brick wall. Haru stopped walking for a second then just continued without looking back.
I stormed back into the cafe with mixed emotions. Should I feel angry, sad, or relieved that I dodged a bullet?  I was so angry I wanted to rip his throat out.  OMG why am i thinking like this? Ripping his throat out? Come on Yua. Suddenly I felt really thirsty so I grabbed my iced tea and chugged it.
“Yua-chan are you okay?” Hikari asked, sitting across from me placing another iced tea in front of me.
“No, I'm over here imagining ripping Haru’s throat out .” I said suddenly feeling stressed.
“No that’s completely normal.” she joked. “But seriously what’s wrong.”
“I just want to talk to Haru but he keeps pushing me away. How can he tell me he loves me, leave and show back up like nothing happened.” I sighed in frustration.
“Hey don’t beat yourself up over this. It’s his fault. He’s the one that left not you. You just have to find a way to talk to him and not rip out his throat.” I nodded, taking another sip of tea. She may be younger than me but she’s always right.
“Your shift is almost over right? Let’s go to the bookstore on our way home.”
“Yay!” she yelled excitedly, drawing attention towards her from the other customers.
“Sorry.” she said quickly heading back behind the counter. Only Hikari would get excited over books I laughed to myself.
I really didn't know why I was so hung up on Haru. Maybe it’s because he’s the only guy I loved. Or maybe it because he left without giving me an explanation. My mind kept drifting off thinking about him as I tried to do my chemistry homework that's due tomorrow. My eyes grew heavier as I tried to focus. “Maybe I should take a break.” I yawned resting my head on the desk.
“Just a quick nap.” I yawned again before drifting off to sleep.
Haru and I were cuddling under a tree and I felt so relaxed and happy. I looked at him and smiled. But he didn’t smile back.
“Is something wrong?” I asked reaching out towards him.
“I don’t wanna be with you anymore Yua.” He told me pushing  away.
“What? We just got back together the other day. What could have changed?”  sitting up  turning to face him. “Why do you keep hurting me like this? Did you ever even really love me?
“I gotta go. I’m sorry Yua,” Haru replied to me getting up walking away leaving me like he always did.
“Haru come back here!” I called after him “Haru!” but he didn’t answer, he just kept walking.
I opened my eyes and all I could feel was anger.  I was so angry but I couldn’t let a dream drive me crazy. I took a deep breath and grabbed my phone to check the time.
“4am? Ugh! I didn’t finish my homework!” I said frustrated.
Ring!
Finally the bell rang signaling it was time for lunch. I didn't know if I could sit through another minute of balancing equations. I sat my books out for the next class before heading to the library to meet hikari and Hisako. I found the girls sitting at a table in the back of the library laughing quietly to themselves.
“What’s so funny? I could use a laugh.”  I said as I joined them at the table.
“Hisako fell out of her chair in class today then slipped on her chair getting up.” Hikari said laughing so hard she had tears in the corner of her eyes.
I laughed a little before looking at Hisako. “Are you ok?” I asked.
“Yea I’m fine. Thanks for asking Yua. I'm never visiting Hikari before her class again though” Hisako replied to me with a smile.
Hikari started talking about buying more clothes at the mall, I smiled nodding as if I was listening before zoning out watching the rain fall from the window. The rain reminded me of something Haru did before we broke up.
Haru and I were at our favorite spot during lunch and I couldn't stop talking about our anniversary that was just around the corner.
“I planned the whole day out first we're gonna go eat breakfast together---” I rambled on and on about our date but Haru didn’t even look like he was paying attention.
“Are you listening to me?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Huh.” he said caught off guard. “Yea I’m listening.” he replied.
I gave him an unsure look. “Ok then what did I say?”
Haru laughed before looking at me with his beautiful eyes and sexy smirk that I absolutely loved. Completely changing the subject Haru told me. “Close your eyes and turn around for me.”
“What? You're changing the subject.” I called him out.
“Just do it please.” He asked. I squinted my eyes curiously at him before turning around and closing my eyes  just as he said. I slightly jumped as I felt something cold touch my neck.
“Ok you can open now.” He told me and I can tell he was smiling.
Opening my eyes I looked down to see a beautiful necklace. I turned around and faced him, smiling like an idiot. “The two hearts are us right.” I asked, holding onto the pendant.
“Yea and I also had our names carved into it.” He replied.
My smile grew bigger. “I love it.” I told him.
“Good. Don’t ever take it off no matter what happens between us ok.” He said seriously.
“I won’t.” I smiled as I leaned in for a kiss.
I smiled at the memory “Those were truly the good times.” I said messing around with the necklace still around my neck. I know I said I wouldn’t take it off. But new Haru makes me want to.
“What are you talking about.” Hikari said looking at me before smirking “It's Haru isn’t it?”
“I am not but nice guess.” I said sarcastically.
“Yua just get back together with him and stop torturing yourself.” Hisako said stealing some of Hikari’s grapes.
“Nah he belong to the streets.” I joked.
“But so do you.” Hikari sassed.
My smile disappeared as I looked at Hikari in shock. “I do not. I am a proper lady thank you.”
“Keep telling yourself that.” Hikari said sarcastically while laughing. I rolled my eyes at her. “I swear sometimes you act just like Haru.” I mumbled before getting up.
“Where are you going?” Hisako asked.
“I have to go to class early.” I told the girls goodbye and left. Okay so maybe I didn't actually need to go to class early. I needed to talk to Haru and work things out between us. I wondered mindlessly through the school hallways looking for Haru. Somehow I ended up in our spot. The spot where we spent most of our time together. Not much had changed. There was a new mural done by the art club that made the space brighter. I walked over to the window staring at the rain heavily falling down. I played with the necklace again still thinking about that day. Just as the bell rang I felt a gust of air go by. I turned around watching the older boy walk up the stairs not even acknowledging me.
“Haru!” I called out but he just kept walking leaving me like he always did.

Hot Chocolate
Pairing: Tom Holland x Reader
Warnings: Ehm... none, I think?
Summary: An afternoon walk turns interesting when you run into your ex.
A/N: I hope you enjoy this! It was fuelled by my Shirin music binge and a weekend of about no sleep. It’s not edited, but here’s to hoping it still makes sense!
Tumblr media
Small droplets of water fell peacefully against the large tiles on the pavement. Dark clouds covered most of the sky, and the soothing sound of the rain seemed to have the same effect on the rest of southern London. The whole city just felt lazy, there was no other way to describe it.
You loved it. The British autumn had always been your favorite season. Maybe it was the memories you attached to the season, your past always seemed so much more idyllic in the cozy evenings of lazy, rainy Saturdays.
The wind was driving your hair wild. Your white beanie didn’t really do much to help, but your ears were warm. You were cocooned in your red coat, hands stuffed into the large pockets. You loved everything about autumn. But the nostalgia always overtook your brain. The orange and brown leaves, flying around, close to the ground, brought back memories of long walks in the woods; soft palms and calloused fingers holding onto your own. They brought back images of bright smiles; loud laughs; hot chocolate kisses and brown eyes, watery from harsh winds.
Even with the gloomy weather, you felt giddy. You were having dinner with your best friends later that evening. It had been a while since you had seen them last. Work always managed to get in the way.
You looked up from the concrete blocks beneath your boots and noticed that you were almost at the grocery store. There was a light buzz of people around, far less than there would have been, had it not been raining. But still enough to make London feel like a city and not a commercial for the newest model of a car.
The glass doors slid open, greeting you happily with a “ding” from the electronic bell. You had never understood how anyone could work for hours with that bell, without going insane at some point.
Normally white aisles were covered in brown water streaks, and the sound of shrieking shoes clashed against your eardrums. A single overhead light flickered inconsistently, dawning the place in a midnight atmosphere. Muffled conversations could be heard throughout the store, and everything was exactly as it should be.
Your eyes fluttered along the aisles, searching for the products you needed. In fact, you didn’t really need anything, nor did you want anything. But you had been sitting at home, with a cup of tea, and something had just told you that you needed to get out of the house. Your gut was probably right about that; you had been holed up at your flat, working tirelessly on a work project for days.
In fact, it had been a long while, since the last time you had taken time to just wander around the city. The electronic bell rang once again, and you moved from the dairy section towards drinks. Row after row of differing teas, differently processed coffee beans, and of course what you were there for; the hot chocolate.
"Y/N?" Your hand stills in the air, freezing where it was reaching for a box of hot chocolate powder. Silently you let out a breath of air, squeezing your eyes shut, wishing that the voice was only your imagination. You relax the muscles in your arm, and it falls gently down your side. With a last quick breath, you open your eyes, and sure enough there he is.
Brown boots, the same ones he wore all that time ago, you can tell by the small green stain near the ankle. That was your paint, you remembered that day vividly. Flashes of wide smiles, flying paint, and empty canvases. Hugs from behind kisses on paint covered noses and laughs that you could only relive in your dreams.
Acid wash denim jeans, ripped at the knees, just the way he preferred it. But you knew those jeans, and the holes weren't artificial. They had torn during the many days you had spent together, hurting yourself on the highest branches in the tallest tree in the forest behind his house.
The black coat was new, but that made sense, considering how he always managed to forget his coat somewhere ridiculous. You remembered how confused you had been, when he was sitting at your dinner table, admitting with red cheeks, and downwards cast eyes, that he had forgotten it at a magazine interview. Later that evening you had found it for sale on eBay.
Your eyes finally reached his, and the familiar warm feeling arose in your gut. They were autumn brown. Whenever you had told him that, as whispered confessions, he laughed at you. He didn't get it, he never got how you could see an entire season in just his eyes. How his eyes always reminded you of wet tree trunks, fallen leaves, and hot chocolate. You remembered why autumn was your favorite season.
His hair was a curly mess on the top of his head, blown through by the wind, and your fingers itched to run through it. Clenching your fist, you smiled at him.
"Tom," his mouth quirked up in a smile at the sound of his name rolling through your lips. "I didn't know you were in town."
"No... No, I'm, ehm." He took a step closer to you, lifting the item in his hand. "I'm only in town to take care of my mum." The packet of kleenex was balanced perfectly between his fingers, and you could almost feel them running through your hair.
"Yeah.. she mentioned that she was coming down with a cold." A low chuckle whisked through the aisle. You raised an eyebrow at him, but couldn't help the smile that emerged on your own lips.
"Sorry, I just find it a little strange that my mum still talks to my ex-girlfriend." The small smile that had decorated his face oh so effortlessly, disappeared and was immediately replaced by a small frown. Ouch. You had never really thought about it that way. In your mind, he wasn't really your ex-boyfriend. You didn't know what he was, but that word always felt... too real.
With a reluctant nod, you shuffled on your feet, watching the water on the floor move with your movement.
"If you're not busy, we could go for a cup of hot chocolate." His eyes were warm again, flittering across your face in that special Tom Holland way, that made your breath catch in your throat.
"Yeah," you felt the warmth in your stomach spread upwards, into your cheeks, and you felt the sudden need to hide your blushing face from him. You didn't. "Yeah, I would like that."
While Tom ended up buying the Kleenex, you came out the store empty handed. The weather was still gloomy outside, but the wind had stilled a bit. As you walked, you couldn't help but notice the distance between the two of you. Had it been only a year prior, there wouldn't have been so much as a centimeter between you, fingers intertwined and arms tangled. Even mentally, the distance wouldn't have been there. You would have laughed about something stupid that happened to him on set or whatever funny thing your little brother and Patty had been up to.
But the air was filled with small talk, the kind you hated. How's work? Where do you live now? How did that one project work out? How's your grandma? Oh, she passed I'm so sorry.
You couldn't stand it. Any of it. Neither the distance nor the fact that the distance wasn't big enough. Your mind was a clutter. Happy memories were thrown in with the sad. You knew that you should just walk away, never look back on something that took you so long to get over, while the other part of you wanted to rekindle something that once was.
Tom came to a sudden stop and you almost bumped into him. You were on the corner of two quiet streets, this had been one of your favorite spots in the world. Once upon a time, it had been your spot.
Upon seeing your hesitation, Tom brought his hand to the back of his neck, scratching slowly right where you remembered his curls meeting his skin. "Is this okay? If not we can go somewhere else." His hair was getting darker from the rain, so you just nodded with a quick smile.
"No, no." You looked up at the place, white and orange flowers littering the walls, and the inviting warm light coming from the windows. "This is great." Deciding, that you might as well enjoy this, rather than comply to the annoyingly persistent butterflies in your stomach, you cast him a grin, before making your way up the steps, and inside the warm cafe.
"Y/N, Tom! It's so nice to see you again." Michelle, the nice middle-aged lady greeted you. "It's been so long." She smiled at the both of you, happiness shining through her blue eyes. The greying hair fell down to her shoulders in large curls, and the "Star Baker!" apron, was tied tightly around her waist. God, you had missed her.
You didn't fight your sudden urge to hug her, so you quickly sidestepped the disk and brought her in for a hug, which was gladly returned.
"My goodness child, you're all wet." Despite the slight disgust in her voice, a happy laugh bubbled out of her.  "I'll make up the usual for you, then I can take your coats to dry."
"Michelle, you don't have to that." Tom smiled at the woman, holding his arms out for a hug. Michelle let go of you and ran around to the other side of the disk and straight into his arms. As your eyes met Tom's, you quickly looked down at the ground, ashamed that you wanted to run into his arms too.
As the woman took your orders, and then coats through the protesting, you and Tom sat down at your usual table. Right next to the western window, looking out over the small courtyard that accompanied the cafe. You sat there, silence emerging around you. It had been a good ten minutes before your order came, and still, neither of you had said a word.
"I'm sorry." He finally broke it, eyes on the mug of hot chocolate in his hands. "I've wanted to say that for a year now." He looks up, meeting your eyes again, and your shoulders straighten up slightly at the sorrow-filled look in his eyes.
"I'm not gonna pretend that I didn't need to hear that." You say, voice quiet, scared that Michelle will find out that her favorite customers have broken up. "Can I talk?" You look intently into his eyes, searching them for any form of hesitation, you only find regret.
"I was angry at you for so long. So long! What you did, I never imagined it would hurt as much as it did." Again your eyes fell towards the mug in your own hands, running your index finger on the rim, before glancing back up at him. "Do you remember that night?"
:o:o:
The sky was littered with stars above the two of you. You were lying on the red picnic blanket, on the balcony of your flat. Every once in a while one of you would point towards the sky, fixated on showing the other a star, that in one way or another reminded you of something. For the most part, you would concentrate on finding the satellites.
Your ear was laid against the left side of his chest, listening to the soothing sound of his strong heartbeat. You could feel him exhale his breath on the top of your head. As you lied there, you felt unbelievably calm, overwhelmingly safe and undeniably happy.
If anyone had asked you, a couple of years prior if you would ever find the love of your life, you would have told them off. Back then you didn't believe in something as silly as the love of your life, even love was such a strange concept to you. In your mind, sharing everything you were with someone else seemed completely ridiculous.
You hated being proved wrong, but Tom showed up, and you had never been so thankful for it. Ever. He had turned your world upside down, and suddenly the world made sense. It was like you had experienced the world wrong side up all your life, and then there he was. You could finally sing along to love songs without feeling like you were weird for not understanding what they were singing about.
"I could get used to this." You said as you cuddled closer to Tom, planting a soft kiss right beneath his ear. To your surprise he clenched his jaw, turning his head to look you in the eye.
"Y/N..." His eyes turned mournful in the mere span of a second. It was a punch to your gut, and as a knee-jerk reaction, you sat up, looking down at him. He looked like an angel lying there, right beside you, one hand on your thigh, and the other beneath his head. Brown curls spread out over the blanket, and eyes reflected the stars above him. He's so beautiful, and you slowly felt the tears well up in your eyes. Why... why would he ever make your name sound that sad?
"No... Don't" You feel a sob rise up your throat. "Please don't." He sat up with you. As gently as he could, he pulled you into a hug, slightly awkward from the weird angle. You leaned your head against his shoulder, letting the tears roll out of your eyes and onto his white shirt. "Please." You whispered in a desperate attempt to make him stop doing what you knew he was about to do.
"Promise you'll always remember me." He whispered into your ear, and your heart shattered completely. How could that voice, that voice that you loved so much, hurt like nothing else ever had?
"Don't make me promise that." You straightened up, tangling your hand with his, "People only as you to remember them if they're planning to leave." Your voice was so quiet, if it weren't for the ragged breath he drew in you wouldn't have known whether he heard you or not. "If you're planning to leave please don't ask me to remember it."
:o:o:
He nodded, and you take in a sharp breath, like a knife scratching the insides of your lungs.
"I get it. I didn't then, but I get it now." You look him directly in the eye, and god you miss him. "In a way, you were doing me a favor. At least that's what you told yourself wasn't it?" He opened his mouth, preparing to answer you, but you shook your head, quickly continuing. "You see, what hurt wasn't really that you broke up with me, not even how you did it, even though doing it on an anniversary wasn't your best idea, it was the fact that you made a decision, that I should have been part of."
"Y/N, I didn't want you to have to deal with me traveling so much, we would never have time to see each other. I thought what I did was better than the alternative." He pushed his mug to the side, intertwining his hands, and laying them on the table, eyes fixated on you.
"The alternative? You mean talking to me about it? Finding out that I had just talked to my boss, and come to an agreement that would have made it possible for me to travel with you. You mean the alternative? Like the fact that your mother was so excited when I told her that I was ready to marry you if you asked?" You let out a huff of frustration, and you catch a glimpse of the confusion flashing through Tom's eyes.
"You really think this is better than the alternative? Angry hot chocolate, in a cafe we both used to love. We could have been in love, but you decided we were better off being strangers."
"I... I didn't know."
"Obviously not!" The anger boiled in the pit of your stomach, and your hands were clenched around the fragile porcelain. "I appreciate you saying sorry, but it doesn't really do me any good now."
"I'm so so so sorry." His voice was softer, probably softer than you had ever heard it be, and it calmed you down immediately.
"Listen, I can't sit here and pretend that I have forgiven you completely, and I'm not even sure I can sit here pretending to be friends." He leans back in his seat, eyes focused on you like they have been almost the entire time, burning holes through you.
The silence took over again, the both of you just sitting there, coming to the realization that it's over.
"If you ever find it in you to forgive me... please call me." He's sincere, even if Tom's an amazing actor, he could never fake that tone in his voice. You knew that because it had always been reserved just for you. "I'm willing to wait for you."
You don't know how to answer, so you opt on not answering at all. Nodding quickly and standing up. The mug is still in your hand, and you retrieve your now dry coat, before walking back to Tom. You set the mug down on the table. "Thank you, Tom." You smile, maybe a small smile, but you're emotionally drained so you take it as a victory. And with a final look at the love of your life, you let go of the hot chocolate.

(1/11)Oh my gosh yesss I'm glad that you like long messages too because I talk way too much 😂 (And yeah about my friend and just hanging out w/ her more that's exactly what I was thinking 😂) It's actually kind of funny bc just yesterday I was hanging out at her house and her younger brother needed to go to Walmart and I was like 'I've been meaning to go to Walmart, I'll take you' and ofc since I have a bluetooth radio adapter the whole drive I had my Spotify going with some quality k-bops, lol
2)And as we were driving I noticed him kind of jamming and I was like 'Oh my god Mickey do you actually like this???' And he was Like 'yeah, these are some good bops 👍' I was shooketh. I had to go home before I had the chance to show him any music videos but he says he's open to watching some with me next time I see him. One way or another I'm going to turn someone in my social circle into a kpop fan you mark my words ☝ and then maybe we can team up and try to work on his sister some more 😂
3)I only started first getting into kpop last June so I'm still very new, but it's definitely super frustrating how so many ppl act like it's an inherently bad or cringey genre of music just bc it's kpop! The stigma is ridiculous! I also started out with BTS (lol) and since they're pretty popular in the US at least I was able to be like 'See, this isn't just a niche thing, lots of people know abt and like this group' but of course my dad still says 'Just cause it's popular doesn't make it good'
4)And I'm like? You're a band teacher, you of all people should understand that music doesn't have to be in your native language (or even have lyrics) in order for you to enjoy it, but go off I guess... It's the same with one of my college friends. They make fun of me for liking kpop but this is coming from some who still treats March 22nd (the day My Chemical Romance broke up) as a day of mourning. Like, no tea no shade no pink lemonade, MCR was a good band nothing wrong with liking them.
5)But like if you're 22 and you still haven't grown out of your emo phase do you really have room to pick on other people for their music taste?  🤷 Anyway that's the person who follows my main that I didn't want to know I had a kpop sb. I think I made it around July. Tbh it was pretty dead for most of 2018. But like I said I've started using it way more since I recently revealed that it exists, lol. Especially since that good good Astro cb 👏💗😩 But honestly Astro is such a blessing
6)Idk how I lived so long w/o them. When I first got into kpop I was planning on just sticking to BTS since the reaction to me being into kpop was so volatile. I was like 'I'm only into one group, ppl already are negative about me liking kpop so I'm just gonna stick to this and not become a full on multifandom fan' and then in Nov I accidentally let myself fall in love with Monsta X and that plan was foiled. And realizing I wasn't gonna be able to stick to just one anymore opened the floodgates
7)And I was like okay in that case, let's just start getting into *all groups* Lol. My story of getting into Astro was actually bc of my best friend's roommate (can you tell I have like one friend and my whole social circle kinda revolves around her? Lol) so this roommate when she heard me being sad about having no kpop friends was like 'oh hey, I'm kinda into kpop' and it turns out she didn't like very many groups and was one of the ppl who blah blah BTS is overrated, which ya know isn't ideal8)But I was just really desperate to have someone to talk about kpop with. And Astro was her favorite so I was like, okay I'll get into them so that I have something to talk about with her! So I started watching some videos and I fell in love with them pretty much instantly! And I was real excited bc #1 now I can talk about kpop with someone! And #2 this group is actually amazing? Bonus! ... And then they got in a big fight about their living conditions and the roommate ended up moving out RIP
9)So that didn't work out, lol (Your story about finding them during that internship sounds amazing though! Haha) But yeah, so this is my first cb too! And although I love them w/ my whole heart and would have loved to have them in my life even sooner what an amazing cb to be your first! The concept was wonderful, the album was excellent, the visuals were to *die* for. They worked so hard and I'm so proud of them and I'm so happy we got to see their work come to fruition and get them a win 🤧🤧
10)The dance practices though? You're so right omg 💗 Me and my Rocky bias *fully* understand 😂 All of them are such good dancers?? I never fail to be impressed. Of course you know who I always end up watching tho 👀 lol (̶i̶f̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶h̶a̶l̶f̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶R̶o̶c̶k̶y̶'̶s̶ ̶f̶o̶o̶t̶w̶o̶r̶k̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶b̶e̶ ̶a̶l̶m̶o̶s̶t̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ ̶a̶s̶ ̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶e̶y̶e̶s̶.̶.̶.̶)̶ ̶ I also love how at the end they always pause all dramatic for a minute and then start screaming 😂
11)It's like? Amazing talent *and* dorky personalities? What more could you ask for? Lol. In regard to your last question though Unfortunately I also won't be able to see them 😔 I live in the smack middle of the US and since they're only going to coasts all of the venues are way too far away to get to. Esp since it's the school year and I can't skip class to drive cross country for a concert much as I'd like to (Holy lord I talked over twice as much?? Why am I like this?) Talk again soon! -ASA
Okay SO I’m very sorry I haven’t had the time to answer everything until now bc I’ve been busy studying for midterms and also I was a lil trashy today since my uni closed bc of freezing rain so I slept in but I’m glad that FINALLY everything got sent like damn tumblr you really don’t want us making friends huh.
Yessssss I love the feeling of seeing someone else also get into the same interests! I’ve been pretty lucky in the sense that I grew up around mostly other asian americans, so kpop was never something that was considered super “weird,” like some people were into it and some weren’t but even if you weren’t you still would’ve been familiar with the more popular groups from when you were younger. Even now, I have a bunch of friends also into kpop (one of them is even my roommate) so tbh I was definitely the one in my friend group late to the party aha. Even my university hosts kpop nights at our bar and I’m pretty sure we have a kpop dance team as well? So tbh if I met someone new there’s probably like a 50% chance they’re into kpop or at least listen casually.
Tbh I used to be a little bit judgy too but moreso because of the obscene amount of money I’ve seen some of my friends spend (no joke one of my friends has spent probably like $500+ on Loona stuff in the past month and a half and another friend bought like 5 copies of the same album for herself like damn idk how do you have that much money).
I also really don’t like it when people bash other people’s music tastes, since I feel like it’s something so personal? Idk but for a long time I used to be really self conscious about sharing my music with other people and even now I feel like that sometimes. For me after getting into BTS I kind of expected to get really into other groups since I was in Korea anyway and I was already listening to a lot of other artists casually. For me it started with NU’EST (fell for them immediately at the same concert that I saw Astro at) and then after was Astro, and then I just started slowly getting into other groups after that (even though I haven’t totally been able to get into Got7′s music they’re SO funny and I just kinda fell for their personalities  you know).
I honestly think that they did such a wonderful job with this comeback too! I like seeing their concept evolve and mature but they’re not straying too far from their original cute concept so I feel like it’s a nice middle ground that’s very unique to them, you feel? Also I feel like the visuals especially and the execution of the whole plant concept was just done so well?? Even my friend who’s not in kpop was like “k idk who they are but that was the prettiest music video I’ve ever seen”. What are your favourite eras and songs? For me I’d have to say either the Spring Up or Baby era BUT right now my favourite song is probably Again/Should’ve Held On though tbh my mood and my tastes change like every few weeks loool.
I have no idea why I tend to be most attracted to the dances rather than vocals or rap (maybe has to do with the fact that it’s something I’ve always wished I could do but have always been bad at lmao). But Astro’s stood out to me for the exact same reason! I just thought it was so funny seeing them all break character at the end because you really get to see how hard their choreos are and you get a glimpse of their personalities like damn, how can you not stan these dummies?
That’s really unfortunate that you won’t get to see them either :/ They’re also coming to the closest city to me but it’s on a Tuesday, but I *hypothetically* looked up flight prices and tried to see if I could get away with just missing a day of classes if I flew back in the middle of the night since I have some friends who did the same thing and drove down to Buffalo but I seem to have underestimated the size of New York State LMAO. But apparently my university’s too far from the airport so it’s “not realistic” (and also I’m hella broke from travelling to Taiwan and Japan while I was in Korea but that’s a minor issue ig). I hope we do both get a chance to see them live though! Who knows, after the success of this comeback I’m expecting a lot more cbs and world tours out of them ;)
