For the past several months, there's only been a very slow trickle of posts/fics in the xmcu cherik tag. Let's try to breathe some life back into this incredible pairing!

With one clear winner of my poll, here's thirty prompts for the thirty days of April. (This is a super chill, laid-back event---do these in any order, interpret them as loosely as you like! Create in any medium! Fic, art, gifs, meta, incoherent screaming about the otp…all winners in my book.)

A Year in the Life: April

Twelve vignettes from the married life of Tara Lewis and Emily Prentiss, written for the Year of the OTP writing challenge.

Prompt: pranks

            It started with a joy buzzer.  Tara taped it to Luke’s desk phone the night before April Fool’s Day.  She got into the office early the following morning and watched from the round table room, waiting for Luke to get in.  No sooner had he put his morning coffee cup down on his desk than Tara called him from her cell and laughed at the little yelp he let out when he picked up his phone.  He looked around the bullpen, and when he spotted Tara laughing at him up in the round table room, he smiled and shook his head.  It was game on.

            Luke got his revenge on her by stealing all the pens and pencils off her desk and replacing them with one giant novelty pencil.  Then Tara used her height to her advantage and taped a big picture of a grinning clown to the ceiling above Luke’s desk so that when he leaned back and stretched, he was so shocked he nearly fell out of his chair.  Over the next few weeks, the BAU bullpen became the battlefield for Tara and Luke’s prank war.  There were airhorns and taped computer mouses and faxes of joke police reports.  Tara switched around the sugar and salt right before Luke came in and made his morning coffee, and Luke filled Tara’s filing cabinet with helium balloons.

            Emily watched her wife’s antics unfold from her office up on the catwalk and pretended not to be entertained.  She’d sigh dramatically and shake her head and pinch the bridge of her nose as she admonished her agents for goofing off at work, but secretly, she was in no hurry to stop the pranks.  Seeing Tara enjoy herself like this made Emily’s heart glow, and she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t just a little bit tempted to join in on the fun.  But as the unit chief, she needed to maintain a certain level of decorum, and she couldn’t exactly jump in and start playing pranks on the team.  Besides, as entertaining as these hijinks were for the team to watch, the prank war had so far just stayed between Luke and Tara.

            But then Luke changed the rules, and when Tara got into the office one morning and turned on her computer, she blinked in surprise when her desktop background wasn’t her and Emily at Niagara Falls, but Luke and Penelope making goofy faces.  There was no way Luke had pulled that off on his own.  To change Tara’s desktop background remotely, he would have needed Penelope’s help.  And if Luke was going to bring his Girl Friday in on the shenanigans, then Tara was, too.

            “Emily…” she said, stretching out her name in a singsong voice as she curled up next to her wife on the couch one night, “You would tell me if you really wanted me to stop playing pranks on Luke, right?”

            “It’s all in good fun,” Emily shrugged, “With what we do, it’s good to have a laugh every now and then.”

            “So…it’s okay if I prank him again this week?”

            Emily turned and looked at her wife with a quizzical frown.  “You’ve never asked my permission to play a prank before.”

            “Yeah,” Tara said, “But this is gonna be a big one, and…I kind of need your help—if you’re up for it.”

            “Well, I guess one prank couldn’t hurt,” Emily said with feigned reluctance, but the smile on her face betrayed her bubbling excitement, “What did you have in mind?”

            They set their plan in motion that Friday.  Emily made sure everyone went home on time and took the evening off—no working late allowed.  As soon as the team had cleared out, she pulled several rolls of Christmas-themed wrapping paper out from under her desk and brought them down to the bullpen where Tara was waiting for her.

            “Let’s do this,” Emily said with a mischievous smile.

            They took all the objects off of Luke’s desk—not that there were all that many; he did travel light—and wrapped them up one by one: his stapler, his hand sanitizer, his framed pictures of Roxy and his abuelita.  And then they were ready for the big job: wrapping the desk itself.  It took an entire roll of Christmas tree paper and an awful lot of scotch tape, but with Emily’s masterful giftwrapping skills, they got the whole desk covered in paper with every corner neatly folded and taped.  Tara replaced all the little wrapped presents exactly as Luke had left them on his desk, and topped it off with a big bow and a gift tag that read “To Luke, with love from Tara and Emily.”  She stepped back from the desk and put her arm around Emily as they surveyed their work.

            “Looks good, doesn’t it?” Emily said.

            “You did a great job,” Tara nodded.

            “I’m glad you asked me to help,” Emily said, “Since I became chief, you know, I don’t really get to do all the fun team bonding stuff I used to do—you know, joking around with Morgan and Reid, goofing off behind Hotch’s back…I guess I kind of missed it.”

            “I’m glad I can bring out this side of you,” Tara replied.  She leaned in and kissed her wife tenderly.  “I promise to make sure you never miss out on the fun.”

MCU. After a while I got tired of seeing the characters I liked from the comics getting watered down, and it drove me crazy to see how much fandom liked the watered down versions.

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what?

It's probably the cat thing, isn't it? Though I'm quite proud of my Richmond injury list

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

I just posted a very long one about Jamie and Isaac, but the long and short of it is that they send each other selfies of their outfits for the day every morning.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

The first fandom I was in was Dragon Ball Z. As I am still ingesting fan content for it, I would say I am still in the fandom. So that's about 25 years.

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of?

This was vaguely rigged because of how often I've been listening to my character playlists. The song that came on is 'Passing through a Screen Door' by The Wonder Years, Little Kruta. It's not only from my Jamie Tartt playlist, but some of the lyrics are chapter titles in one of my fics.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? 

Answered the big one already, but for a minor stupid headcanon that I'll put up in a place of prominence: after Wembley, Higgins was informed of what happened. He was distraught for the role he unknowingly played. He delicately put word to security to let him know if any complaints were filed or needed to be filed to keep Jamie's dad off the premises. And when no complaints were filed...

...look, he's a middle manager at heart. He's used to doing what needs done without people telling him to do it or even knowing he took care of it. Unbeknownst to anyone outside of the Directors of Beboperations (plus a few favors called in),Jamie's dad is banned from a number of stadiums across the country (12 and counting).

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.

Richard and Jan Maas. They're asshole 4 asshole. I get it.

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)

For someone whose purpose is narrative villain, I find the character of Rupert interesting. He's charming, he's determined, he's relentless, he's socially gifted - all positive traits that double as flaws. You see why Rebecca fell for him as easily as you see why she loathes him.

The day that you’ve been dreading had come too quick for your liking. You boys — your babies were standing in front of you, backpacks on their shoulders as they get ready to leave their parents sight for eight hours. 

You tried to keep it together but when your precious Santino, clung on to your leg, you couldn’t hold on any longer.  The tears start wet his chubby little cheeks it took everything in you to not snatch him up and put him back in the car. 

“No wanna go mama,” his trembling voice tearing you apart. 

But your big guy, Salvatore was just like his father, nothing could scare him. He pulled lightly on this brother’s backpack, giving him a small smile, “Come on Fratello (brother)!” 

Santino clung harder, choosing to make your leg his home, “No! Wanna go home wiff mama!”

Oh how you wanted him to…

“Figlio (Son)…,” Steve’s soft voice coming from behind you. He only used that voice for you and his boys. But as you look up at your husband, you can see his cheeks tinged with pink and a unspoken glassiness to his eyes. 

Steve lowers to Santino’s height, staring back at the spitting image of him. He didn’t want to say it or even show but… This was ruining him in the worst way possible. 

He wanted nothing more than to scoop both his boys up and take them home. They were growing up too damn fast for his liking. 

Steve still remembers the day that you two brought them home. He wanted to go back to that day so bad. 

Santino’s eyes that match with Steve’s look at this father, his fingers still clutching onto yours. His lips tremble at Steve, wanting nothing more than to forget school altogether. 

Salvatore looks on at the interaction, bouncing on his feet as he watches the many kids enter the school. “Come onnnn we’re gonna be late!” 

“Shh, you’ll get there prince,” you assure him, passing your hand over his hair to smooth it.

“But I wanna go now!” he shouts, stamping his foot on the hard concrete.

Steve glances over at his little spitfire, a small mighty version of him, “Mind your mama, Sal. You don’t raise your voice, understand?” 

“Yes Papà,” sighing as he looks down at the ground. 

Steve reaches out to softly bring Salvatore over with his brother as he looks them both in the eyes, “Are the Rogers scared of anything?

Both boys look at Steve and shake their head from side to side. 

“I know it’s… scary to do new things. Trust me, the day you two were born, my whole life flashed before my eyes. But it all worked out right?”

Salvatore and Santino shake their heads, your precious boy’s hands loosening its grip. 

“Santino bambino, no matter what, you are going to be fine. Wanna know why?”

“Why Papà?” his voice filled with wonder. 

Steve gave him a soft smirk, keeping his eyes on his son, “Because you’re a Rogers, Figlio. We’ll always be fine. Just like your Fratello. Have each other’s back and no one can touch you okay?”

Salvatore puffs out his little chest with pride, “Got it Papà!” 

Steve chuckles, lightly ruffling his son’s hair, “Atta boy! Be your brother’s keeper in there know that me and your mamà well be here when you get out.”

Santino looks up at you and then back to Steve, “You promise?”

Steve nods, “Cross my heart bambino.”

With reluctance, Santino pries himself from your leg, you leaning down to give both your boys a kiss on the cheek, “Be good… okay?” the crack in your voice evident. 

Both boys nod giving both you and Steve hugs before walking off towards the school entrance. 

With your own reluctance, you turn around ready to get in the car when you see something that you normally don’t see. 

One tear slides down Steve’s cheek and you knew then that he was keeping it together for too long. 

He doesn’t stop looking at the twins until the door closes behind him and finally his gaze is distracted by you holding his hand with yours.

“Come on…” you whisper, taking your emotional husband back to the black SUV.

The moment that the car speeds off, Steve’s head is immediately in your lap as he lets out a huge breath. 

Your hand slides over his scalp, making him relax with your touch, “S’ not fair Pippi… They were supposed to stay babies.” 

You let out a watery laugh, “I know daddy. Still see them as those two tiny newborns that we brought home.”

The ride was silent as you two reminisced on the younger boys. Life wasn’t fair and you boys growing up was the most unfair thing in the world.

“….. I want more Pippi.” 

You look down at Steve, with a furrowed brow, “More what?”

“Babies. Gimme more babies Pippi.”

As if he had to ask…

I have one OTP the o stands for one and it's Teslen basically xD. Other than that? Eda/Raine from The Owl House and Crowley/Aziraphale from Good Omens (though they're... you know... not talking at the moment xD) as far as romantic ones go. Friendship wise I just watched The Marvels and I got hit hard with Kamala, Carol and Monica (yes the fanfic part helped but I was there ok I feel her so much with this).

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

14 years and a half with Sanctuary apparently xD (God I'm old :)))

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?

I'll go with favorite development arc and the first one that comes to mind is Cordelia from American Horror Story (Coven and Apocalypse and yes Apocalypse was a shit show plot wise but I still loved her in that one so yeah xD). Still, the way she went from basically a wallflower to the Supreme who tricked the Antichrist just to get her girlfriend back from hell? Yeah. I stan.

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

I hate the different thing because I can't do both sides of Teslen for the record xD. But fine. Girls it is.

Helen Magnus from Sanctuary. And it's a very long list as to why but basically Amanda needed something in which she was in charge ok? And I don't mean SGA in charge because that was more like a desk job if anything else. Helen is that, and way more. She's badass, no-nonsense, has a very big heart (too big in some cases but I don't want to talk about that), super smart, can hold her own in combat and does it in heels... I think that pretty much covers it xD.

Eda from The Owl House. Because I lowkey want her to adopt me if that's a valid answer (I mean I would also want Helen to adopt me but I'd maybe also want Helen to do other things to me or at least let me watch while she does them to Nikola and adoption would make that weird so yeah). No but serious answer? I fell for Eda the second she said that thing with Us weirdos have to stick together and yeah. She may be basically a wine aunt but she's also a mother hen (owl? literally actually xD) and she can talk as much as she wants about eating kids and all but she's too kind to actually do it. And she went from burning a school down to actually running the place (of course I don't have details on that fuck Disney but yeah).

Cassandra Cillian from The Librarians. I always said that from all the characters I've known she's the most like me (minus the brain tumor thank God and minus the magic unfortunately). But she has this quote about how she was basically a super smart kid but she didn't want that to be the only thing she was, and yeah. I felt that.

I actually answered that above with Cassandra but yeah xD. I still stand by that :P

light sexuality headcanon: i don’t have fixed sexuality headcanon for light (other than that he is unambiguously queer) but my default is bi with an extremely strong preference for men. 

otp: this is ofc lawlight they own my entire heart and soul. however i will pick a second one for drama and intrigue. i’m a big fan of matsulight.

brotp: their canon dynamic is atrocious but im willing some kind of healthy misa & light friendship into existence with the powers of my mind. keeping (slightly) closer to canon, though, i love light & takada. their dynamic is also atrocious but you don’t have to take a hacksaw to it to make it work. 

notp: this is so difficult. i can be sold on light dating just about anyone halfway reasonable. it’s a sickness. i’m sorry but i am simply too crazy to answer this question. 

first headcanon that pops into my head: i think he’s actually pretty chill when he plays videogames. inexplicably, it’s the one thing in existence that he’s not pathologically competitive about. he’d like to win but he’s not going to explode if he doesn’t. L finds this very disconcerting. 

favourite line from this character: ‘you’ve just told me everything i need to know’ re: ryuk telling him that there’s no afterlife. i’m obsessed with this, i’m obsessed with how okay he was with it and i’m obsessed with how it informs the remainder of the story. (runner up: the chorus of ‘everything is going according to plan’ because it absolutely never is.) 

one way in which i relate to this character: i am so fucking crazy irl, but if i had to pick a specific example: it is genuinely ridiculous how much i believe in my own luck & what random mundane things i will interpret as luck. a few hours hours ago i went to a coffee shop and when they had coconut milk (a normal milk they have 100% of the time) i was immediately like WOW surely a god is smiling upon me.

thing that gives me secondhand embarrassment about this character: where to even begin. i love him so much. his constant need to be right is probably the biggest thing — the cafe scene where he keeps insisting he got L’s puzzle with the photos right even though he did not makes me cringe but also i love it more than anything in the world

cinnamon roll or problematic fave: he is my problematic bff L sexuality headcanon: i see him as bi. i think he generally kind of prefers women but it’s not an especially strong preference and has more to do with the social norms around dating than anything else. otp: its lawlight ofc but lawmane is my very close runner-up. notp: oh god this isn’t as a hard a question as it is for light but it’s still hard. i’m not really into L/aizawa. i think they’re both too mean to each other and not in a fun toxic star-crossed romance way. first headcanon that pops into my head: i think his special interest is ladybugs

favourite line from this character: this is kind of cheating because it’s from labb but my all-time favourite L exchange is -- L: justice has more power than anything else. naomi: power? by power … you mean strength?  L: no. i mean kindness. one way in which i relate to this character: i think the amount of sugar i eat should be studied in a lab. also i intentionally ripped off every single one of his mannerisms when i was 13 so that too. thing that gives me secondhand embarrassment about this character: he really is very sulky and i like this about him very much but it also gives me secondhand embarrassment.

43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written?

Ooh this is hard! Why must I choose between my babies?? I've participated in many a fest and prompt event. Orange Blossoms was an indulgence of flowers and poetry (for HP Flowers AND my birthday!) Lover Boy At Play is to this day the most self-indulgent bit of hotness I ever wrote, written for Kinktober 2021. In fact, I'm very fond of most of my Kinkuary & Kinktober works!

But in the end I think it really comes down to 2 fest works.

Collateral Damage was written for Draco-Ron Fest 2021. It was a headache and a half to create. (In fact my first draft got to 10k words before I scrapped the whole thing and started fresh.) (Version 2, which is what is posted, ended up at 16k!) It was such a struggle to get through, but in the end I had a product I was beyond proud of!

The prompt was great. Probably my favorite prompt I've ever seen. I won't share it here since the prompt itself spoils the story a bit, but if you're very curious you can find it at the bottom of the fic itself. A friend of mine left that prompt, actually! And the moment I saw it I knew it had to be mine. It helped that, because I was friends with the prompter, they'd be thrilled with certain plot points I had in mind. I'd never had a prompt inspire me to quite that level before. Self-prompts, sure. Prompts from others? Never! I am to this day incredibly in love with that fic. Which is pretty big considering it's not my OTP!

It was a great indulgence of angst and miscommunication and inner turmoil. While also having fun with the characters. They're such a mess! Draco super bratty and dramatic, and a fun blend of insecure and vain. Then Ron this charming and funny guy who is also very oblivious and temperamental. It's a more lighthearted, fun version of the enemies to lovers dynamic that I don't often get with Snarry. Much as I love it, my OTP can be much too much sometimes!

It does make me unsure if I should write Dron again, though. I did it so well already! I'm not sure anything I write can ever compare. (Though it's not stopped me with a certain other ship, so...maybe I'll get over that hesitance one day!)

A Matter of Time was written for Snarry Adopt-a-Prompt and was posted early January 2022. While Collateral Damage was a fun spot of drama, this was a tragedy. And while the prompt for Dron spoke to me right away, I had a harder time narrowing down AAP prompts, and even once I did I had to tinker around with what, exactly, I wanted to do.

It was a different sort of structure than I normally write. Alternating POVs as well as reverse chronology. And I had it open-ended on top of that! I got to indulge in a bit of outsider perspective, and a secret (taboo) romance. It sort of delved into this awful situation without ever really resolving it. Also, I am dang proud of how it ended. Wow. Talk about a knife to the heart. (Of course I'd be proud of that, haha!)

Also...can we talk about the smut???? Very hot. Few people talk about that. Probably because on the whole it's a very depressing fic and most people are caught up in how depressing it is, but gosh dang it, that smut was good!

Anyway...it was another challenge to write, though it feels less oppressive than certain other fics. If only because I took breaks to write a comedy at the same time (Welcome to the Family for Rare Pair Fest.) It lightened my spirits enough to be able to reach the end without too much of a migraine. And in the end, I had a story I was stupidly proud of. And I considered it my best work until I posted Contempt later that same year!

(Also, I know I was supposed to stop signing up for fests, but...my best works came out of fests!!!! I did not need that to click in my brain now, oh no.)

Dante x Reader

i wanted to write out some headcanons to get me back in to writing and this is what I got! Of course as soon as I found this prompt I couldn't help but think of Dante, the pure himbo that he is.

Prompt: When your otp first start dating, who always buys them flowers, who doesn’t have the heart to tell them that they have seriously bad hay-fever.

Having never been in a relationship before, Dante decided he wanted to treat you. But with what? It was then Patty suggested flowers. “Everyone likes getting flowers!” she cried. Dante shrugged at the time, but the idea stuck with him.

So there he was, handing you flowers on your one month anniversary.

You smile and thank him, genuinely touched by the thought and his generosity, but you can already feel your nose starting to tingle. But Dante looks so happy that you liked them that you can’t tell him no.

He buys you flowers again a couple of weeks later, after you’ve had a bad day at work. It takes you a few weeks to recover from this bouquet. Dante thinks you’re sick with a cold and you don’t have the heart to tell him otherwise.

This goes on for a full six months until one day Dante walks in to your apartment and catches you sneezing, again one of his lovely bouquets are sitting in a vase on your counter.

“Whoa, babe. Are you sick?” You shake your head while holding off a sneeze, but he runs over to feel your forehead anyway.

“It’s just allergies, I ran out of antihistamines yesterday.” You smile up at your concerned demon. “I’ll just need to pop over to the chemist and we’ll be good to go.”

Dante’s face screws up in concentration as you continue getting ready. It’s not allergy season, your place isn’t super dusty, so what gives? It’s then he smells the faint aroma of the flowers. He walks over to the vase and gives them a big sneeze. When you come back you see him standing over them, arms crossed. “It’s the flowers, isn’t it?”

You don’t even need to say anything, your face says it all. He grabs the vase and heads to the toilet.

“Wait, Dante! What are you doing?”

“Throwing them away!”

“Well don’t throw them down the toilet!” You grab the vase and make quick work of disposing of the flowers properly, all the while Dante hovers in the kitchen.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he huffs.

You walk over and grab his hands in yours. “Because I love them. I love that you thought of me and got me these gorgeous gifts.” You sniff. “It’s just my stupid nose who didn’t love them.”

He strokes your cheek. “Yeah, well. I love your stupid nose. It’s more important than any damn gift, ok?”

You laugh and nod, which finally brings out that gorgeous grin you fell for. Before he can lean in for a kiss, you pull back suddenly and sneeze.

“Let’s, uh, go to that chemist first, shall we?”

1. Sexuality Headcanon

He’s gay, which I think is something he’s known for a long time, but kept quiet about because he was hyper-aware of the fact it could cost him roles. As such, he doesn’t really like to address it and, when he’s asked, he’ll just wave it off and say he’s too busy with work to even think about dating.

Which isn’t even a lie, per se, because for the longest time, he’d never met anyone who seemed worth being distracted by. That is, until…

2. OTP

Malvil! They’re SOULMATES because I just think that they. 🥺🥺🥺

Okay, but getting serious— Vil can be… neurotic (affectionate) and Malleus has this generally calm, patient, grounding personality that balances Vil out so well. Also, Malleus just always seems a little lonely and I feel like that’s something Vil can relate to, because at the end of the day, when he takes off his make-up and lets his hair down, there’s not many people in his life he’s comfortable being vulnerable with.

But I think he could get used to Malleus showing up on his balcony for a late night talk. I think they would both indulge each other in their rambling fixations (Vil going on about make-up and fashion, while Malleus goes on about gargoyles and architecture).

They’d become an old married couple in no time, much to the amusement of their friends and family. You’d see them having dinner by candlelight, speaking in low voices, but certainly not sweet little nothings. They’d be having a hushed, civil debate about some obscure matter regarding the craft of violin making or something.

3. BROTP

I mentioned Vil and Jamil in my post on the latter, so I’m gonna talk about Vil and Kalim here because that’s another BROTP that has my whole heart. I’ve yet to explore their dynamic in fic, but happily, my dear friend @moorsgrimhilde got right to it with Chapter 1 of you’ve got a friend in me. We both have a lot of feelings about the VDC gang as found family (Chapter 6 really complicated the timeline for all this relationship development, but bear with me here jdkalsjgklsdgjkl).

I just think the VDC experience is where they find common ground. They bond over music and dance, and Vil starts to see Kalim as a younger brother of sorts. He can be a nag, but Kalim doesn’t mind. He makes an effort to listen and apply Vil’s advice where it counts, even as he maintains his carefree attitude. Vil notices the effort he makes underneath that eternal smile and laughter, so he doesn’t accept anything less than Kalim’s best in their dance practices and study sessions. This works out really well since Kalim respects Vil’s talent so much, he’s incredibly motivated to receive praise from him. Just a head pat or a “good job, Asim” means absolutely everything.

4. NOTP

The biggest nope for me is Leovil, but full disclosure: I just don’t like Leona, so that’s easily the major factor in why they’re a NOTP for me. I don’t want to dwell too much on that, so let’s see… another big one is Rook and Vil. I really love Rook, he's great, but I can only see him as maybe having had an unrequited crush on Vil when they first met. Emphasis on unrequited. I think Vil just kind of barely tolerated him for the first few months, growing more comfortable as Rook's crush faded into mere respect and admiration. They're best as besties. 🥰

5. First headcanon that pops into my head

Vil is a cat person. He loves and adores them, but he's allergic, which he had the misfortune of finding out upon finally getting the kitten he begged for as a child. He was devastated when his father told him the cat would have to be re-homed, since Vil couldn't very well show up to set looking and sounding like he had a perpetual cold.

All the years since that heartbreak, Vil still has all these videos of his kitten that he watches at night, just before bed, often falling asleep to the sound of his kitten's recorded purrs because he finds it soothing.

Then, one night, after he's started dating Malleus, they're cuddling in bed together and he has his fingers in Malleus' hair, gently rubbing at his scalp, when suddenly, Malleus begins to purr. Deep and rumbling.

Vil stops what he's doing, causing Malleus to crack one eye open (all green and cat-like, Vil thinks) and ask him what's wrong. Vil doesn't know what to say, so he just tells him, "Nothing," but that only makes Malleus raise an eyebrow because he knows a lie when he hears one.

Finally, Vil admits, "I suppose I just didn't realize dragons... purred."

"Ah." Malleus considers this for a moment. "Does it bother you...?"

Vil's eyes go wide and he quickly shakes his head, starting to rub at Malleus' scalp again with a flush to his cheeks. "No, it's fine," he says quietly. "I like it." (Malleus hums at that; soon, he starts to purr again.)

6. One way in which I relate to this character

The way he's such a destructive perfectionist always has me like, "Me too, bro. Me too." Our ambitions and fixations are quite different, but I still feel something familiar there in his attitude and the way he goes about things, pushing himself to burnout and forgetting to have fun, letting his failures eclipse his accomplishments. That sort of thing.

7. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Hmm, so, I'm gonna say the way he asks his phone the equivalent of, "Siri, who's the prettiest boy alive?" and, uh, gets a wee bit demented over the answer lmao. (I maybe lost my shit the first time I heard him say "Mira Mira on the phone...") 😭😭 I don't know, I'm of two minds, because on the one hand I see the gaping wound of his insecurities revealed by this, but on the other hand, I need both hands to cover my face because he's such a dork sometimes and it's hilarious. 😭

8. Cinnamon roll or problematic fave?

I'd say he's firmly neither, just somewhere in-between. He's got a soft heart, but then sometimes he can be a little overbearing as a leader and it can be hard to recognize his good intentions underneath that. I don't think he's done anything to warrant being called a problematic fave though. He's just a kid who grew up too fast in an industry that nurtured his skills and aesthetic value more than his soul, if you will, so I think he struggles with how to express how much he cares about his dorm and his friends in a way they understand. Epel has certainly born the brunt of that, BUT I've noticed some encouraging character development in their relationship as well as in Vil individually over the course of the story (especially post-overblot). He's doing his best. 💕

There was this viral tweet that went around about THE UNTAMED awhile back that was basically the cycle of every fan of the series that I have ever met: 1. Wtf, THIS is the show everyone is losing their minds over? This isn’t even good! 2. Well, I guess it’s not that bad, it’s pretty watchable and fun, it’s all right. 3. I would now die for these characters. So, when I swore this drama wasn’t going to be a big fandom for me, I was just going to watch the show and then fuck off again, I should have known better. Jun Jiu Ling is like two dramas in one and it’s such a struggle sometimes.

On the one hand, you’ve got your typical reincarnated (ok, in this case switched face and new fake identity) female lead who is, as they say in webnovel lingo “overpowered” and good at everything drama where she has to outsmart scheming women, show off her skills at little games/mini competitions that don’t really have big stakes, and fight off the affections of her ever growing harem of men while she single-mindedly walks on the path of revenge.  This is the typical revenge/reincarnation webnovel setup and it definitely feels like it.  This kind of drama is fine, but not something that would have pulled me into JJL, especially since it feels very fluffy and youth romance.  Also doesn’t help that I find the antagonists in this part of the drama (i.e. the cousin, the former fiance’s sister) especially dumb and grating.

BUT THEN ON THE OTHER HAND AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, there’s Jin Han acting in his own separate drama about a man longing for his childhood love and haunted/reminded of her every time he sees her “friend” Jun Zhen Zhen, who has the most intense gaze ever that just pierces right through your heart and travels down to other parts of your body and dang it, THAT’S the drama that’s been keeping me up late and going back and forth between getting another drama subscription the past two days.

Usually, the bad parts of JJL would be too grating for me to keep going but omg the power of thirst is real y’all, and every time I think of leaving, the drama traps me by giving me stuff like this:

On a more shallow note, the otp look lovely together and the pairing of prim gentle beauty with a rough looking much bigger man is my favorite sooo...

This is actually me whenever I look at Jin Han.  

Although he’s not even flirting with her yet, Jin Han brings the heat just by standing next to her and the way he looks!   Even when he’s playing a good guy, he still looks like a bastard that you’d like to fuck.

In conclusion, I watch questionable things because of thirst.  What else is new around here bahahaha?  To be fair, JJL even with all its rough parts (and so rough oof), is oddly addicting and pretty easy to watch once you get past the first two episodes or so.  That just so happens to coincide when Jin Han starts appearing sooo...
