Rewatching the first few episodes of Young Justice, and this is kinda birdflash kinda not (you can absolutely take it as them just being besties), but Wally grabbing Robin’s utility belt when Dick uses it in CADMUS, so Wally doesn’t get left behind is SO cute to me. Dick is just minding his business, being one half of the dynamic duo who doesn’t play well on teams, but then there’s Wally who is so clearly repeatedly saying “if you’re going, I’m going” by sticking close to Robin. Dick isn’t thinking about the others, but Wally is SO prepared for Robin’s next movements, and it speaks to such an amazing friendship and partnership in the field😭I miss them so much - they were never the same again after the 5 year time skip what HAPPENED to THIS version of them goddammit

Can we stop for a second and think about how, in s1, Dick tells Wally "I didn't want my best pal questioning my objectivity", only for Wally to remind him "Dude, that's what a best pal is for..."

And then, in s3, Will confronts Dick, and says "[I'm talking about] Your need for a Wally West substitute. [...] You needed someone who knows you. [...] I get it, you needed someone to give you a reality check, to keep you honest, to tell you what no one else will tell the boss."

Because despite Dick being so secretive, everyone, and I mean everyone knows the impact that Wally had on Dick. Even after Wally's death, which might I remind you is what definitely pushed Dick over the edge (taking a break from the life, hallucinating his dead best friend after saying he was alright, neglecting the kids he rescued, letting Wally's name slip, etc), nobody forgot what Wally meant to Dick.

In the YJ comics, you can even see Dick in tears at Wally's funeral. Dick, the reliable, strong-willed, military-trained one, lets himself cry in front of everyone else. Wally was Dick's only anchor to reality. Not Bruce, not the others, not even being Robin - just Wally. He kept Dick humble, grounded, even in s2 after their argument, which would've hurt less if neither the two of them nor the others were aware on their symbiotic bond.

Wally's trust in Dick's plan wavering for that moment is enough for Dick to actually question his own choices, to make him question his own grip on reality, the control he has over the situation - just for a moment, but the crushing doubt is there.

And, I say symbiotic, but I must admit that in YJ we don't really get to see Dick being supportive of Wally, not as much as we see Wally being supportive of Dick, but it's heavily implied anyway.

The chemistry between Wally and Dick is undeniable. Some ship them, some don't - but what I think everyone can agree on is that, were Wally to ever return, chaos would ensue, and Dick's control would inevitably slip.

There's nothing 'just' about platonic love

So so so tired of seeing romance written in a story and reading 'they weren't just friends... they were more' it makes me want to throw up

Platonic love is so underappreciated (if you've ever had a real friendship breakup you're probably able to sympathize more to my plight lol) and I need more friends living together forever not because the 'romance' thing didn't work out but because they saw each other and thought: this is it for me. This is the person I want to spend my life with.

I need more people who are put in the position of choosing between their best friend and their lover to choose their best friend without a moment of hesitation not because the lover is an asshole or because they don't love them with their whole heart and everything within them but because they love their best friend with their whole heart and every breath of their lungs and every fiber of their being

If a person has a child or a sibling? It's totally fine for them to pick family first, but as soon as it's family they chose (best friends usually) - suddenly a romantic partner is always going to go first? It's just so disappointing!

And it's not even me being against romantic love! I love my ships and romance is just so beautiful and alluringl but-

I need more romantic love that doesn't downplay platonic love!

"I've loved him a long time. I've loved him for as long as I've known him. His eyes shine, his dimple- dimples! I don't know- its impossible to explain because he's just impossible not to love. Summary: You can love others in more than one way, and that means your romantic love isn't 'more' than platonic. It simply means that you love them in a new, different way. I suppose best friends to lovers is a favorite of mine because written nicely, it means they love each other twice

You know what I love, when fandoms have fics that are fully flushed-out storylines that are occasionally better than the source material. Like No Paths Are Bound, and The Rigel Black Chronicles, were godsends.

I firmly believe that every fandom should have a fic that the whole fandom knows that takes place in-universe.

Like if I see another person say that the ultimate Klance fic is Dirty Laundry I'm gonna flip my shit, like no 😭😭, I want something that's long, in-universe, the fan-favorites survive, the characters are flushed out, and it doesn't completely forget about the other characters.

What made you ship it?

Honestly I do not remember. It might have been the young justice animated series? I watched it before I started reading comics and I thought they were cute. Or maybe I just saw some fanart? I'm 100% sure that one of the factors were the panels from Nightwing #90 and #91, which came out right when I was starting to get into buying and reading comics (and were some of the first issues I ever bought).

Actually I have to include the panels, because they're so not platonic it isn't even funny. Like, look at them:

Wally breaking his fingers trying to save Dick. The superpowered hug when he realizes he's okay. Threatening the guy who tried to kill Dick WHEN KGBEAST CANNOT EVEN HEAR HIM. WALLY IS JUST DOING THAT FOR HIMSELF. And THEN ADMITTING TO DICK THAT HE'S BEEN CHECKING ON HIM EVERY HOUR FOR WEEKS.

Bromance isn't the word you're looking for, DC.

What are your favorite things about the ship?

The 'best friends who make each other better but also enable and encourage each other's mischievous behavior' vibes. Also the way that they both have that thing where you'd think they've never been angry a day in their lives because the way they act, but really they are probably shaking with rage and Will Kill You if you even LOOK at their significant other

Is there an unpopular opinion you have about the ship?

A lot of the birdflash I've read has Wally being all flustered and having been in love with Dick forever and like, Dick finally figures it out and they get together. And don't get me wrong, I love that! It's adorable! But imo I think it works so much better when Wally is clueless and repressed, and Dick has had feelings for him forever and knows it but is being an absolute Bat about it and acting like if he doesn't acknowledge it, he'll never have to deal with the potential consequences (which is also why he's never been able to commit to another relationship and pairs nicely with the fanon/HC that Dick sleeps around a lot) and then Wally realizes that not only does dick do it for him, but Dick does it for him (lmao Dick would be proud of me for that one). And then they all have to deal with all the things they've been repressing! It's my favorite flavor for them. I don't know if it's unpopular necessarily, but it certainly seems to be less popular from the stuff I've read.

I tend to do mostly one shots, I say as more than half of the fics I have up currently have more than one chapter, but I'm wanting to do something bigger. Just not sure which to start with. And yes, I have most of these planned out, as well as begun writing them. I'm just not sure what I should focus on currently. And no, these aren't the official names. (I struggle with titles)

BirdFlash Slowburn HS/College AU:

BirdFlash w/ powers and superhero stuffs, and they also go to the same highschool. Current plan is to only have Dick and Wally attend the same highschool, but we've got some other supers of their generation in the hero side. Super slow, and long. Identity shenanigans, Dick is a theatre kid, they won't confess until in or after college (but don't worry it, opens on senior year), they will be Robin and Kid Flash at the beginning but will morph into Nightwing and Flash just cause I want to play with a little bit of cannon. probably gonna be super long, and will take me a year or more to complete.

Captain Marvel Lawsuit:

Both carol and billy (in their respective universes) facing lawsuits and media backlash, because they copied off of a fictional superhero. So, we've got the Avengers helping Carol, and Jon and Damian and some Justice League helping Billy. In Carol's (the Marvel universe) DC is the main comics company. And In Billy's (the DC universe) Marvel is the main comics company. Idk, just thought it'd be funny cause it's a real lawsuit between DC and Marvel. And I don't really like them calling Billy 'Shazam', because that's his power activation thing and it just seems weird, he can't even introduce himself as a hero.

Avengers Vacay Shenanigans:

Basically a crackfic of shenanigans. Like, they're staying at a rented cabin for a week or so. And what place would have enough rooms? So roommates, I think they might almost die for the sake of breakfast, and there may be the slightest bit of angst (which will just be me projecting about my own angsty mac and cheese experience onto Clint), other than that relatively fluffy shenanigans that would ensue on one of their vacations. I'm definitely pushing both friendships and relationships in this one. Current plan includes WinterFalcon, estabed Scott/Hope, Clint/Loki, platonic Science Bros, platonic Steve + Bucky + Sam, platonic Clint + Sam (honestly, geeks), platonic Bucky + Loki (admiring their geeks), platonic Natasha + Thor (competitive besties?), ect.

HalBarry Domestic Dreams:

Similar to a Superbat idea from frownyalfred,(https://www.tumblr.com/frownyalfred/738620242981470208/fic-idea-a-world-where-clark-and-bruce-both-get?source=share), like I think that's where this idea originated from. Simply thought it months later, and had to hunt down the og for this post. ANYWAYS, Barry and Hal have been having the same dreams, a continuous plot of a domestic life between the two. But it's kinda weird to mention to your coworker that you've been having ultra realistic dreams about being in a relationship with him. right? So they both stay silent. However, they know things that they wouldn't know if it weren't for the dreams, random phrases, or actions, all that fun stuff. So, cue awkwardness. Might be a bit of a slowburn but not as much as the BirdFlash one.

BatArrow bonding over billionaires, kids, vigilantes, and the fucking media:

the media basically forces Bruce and Ollie into a relationship, after seeing them having lunch together once and that was a business meeting. They end up fake dating, for the media, then they start to see the benefit of having another single father billionaire around. So they bond over that, and start to become official. Eventually they have the inevitable superhero secret identity reveal, and turns out their dating the coworker that they only tolerate. But they learned to love each other in the hero side too. They just deserve some love. Where else to get it from other than your childhood friend/repeated hookup/coworker?
