I fucking hate cleaning and sharing a space and having NOTHING to do with half the shit in my house cuz most of it belongs to other people and nobody else is in a "let's throw shit away if we don't need it" mood.

Sapnap- face cam
Wc- 1987
Warnings- none (I think)  I've been up for almost 30 hours mainly because I was doing college homework all of last night and because my boyfriend Sapnap was streaming and being very loud which kept me up in the first place which was why I did my homework anyway. I love Sapnap to death but sometime he can be a little annoying but I put up with it.
Sapnap only got into bed at 4am and he's still asleep now at 11pm meanwhile since then I've finished a big essay, cleaned the apartment, done another essay and then made breakfast for myself which I'm eating now. I wish I could be this productive when I've had sleep but somehow it never works like that.
Eventually Sapnap came downstairs sauntering because he was still sleepy, some of us wish. He walked right over giving me a hug from behind as I washed some dishes and gave me a kiss on my cheek.
"Morning babe you alright?" He asked
"Yeah I'm good a little tired but I'll live" I replied
"Just to let you know I'll be streaming later" he said
He always tells me when he's streaming because his fans don't know about us and he doesn't want to accidentally reveal anything to protect me which is cute but it gets hard when he streams for hours on end and I need help with something. Sapnap is good about to it though if I really need help I either text him or message him on discord and he'll help but he sometimes doesn't read his messages.
I gave him some of what I made for breakfast and he sat down to eat it while I talked at him about college work that he pretends to care about. He's very supportive of all my college work and he'll let me get on with things if I have to but he will also talk about things with me if I want to. Thats one of the best things about Sapnap is his ability to adapt to how I'm feeling at any given moment and I like to think I'm at least ok at doing the same for him.
After breakfast Sapnap cleaned the rest of the dishes and let me take a shower which was nice and relaxing and woke me up a little bit as the cold water at the start hit my back, usually I would not be under the water as it warmed up but today I felt like I needed a shock to my system to get it going for another day. I had more homework and a lecture to do today so there was no chance for a nap until the evening when it's kind of pointless anyway.
After my shower I got dressed into some sweatpants and a t-shirt because it was comfy for sitting down all day in. Sapnap had got my laptop ready for me and had got me a glass for water which was sweet of him. My lecture was in about 2 minutes so I logged onto the class ready for it to start, when it did I put my headphones on so that Sapnap didn't have to listen to my teacher going on about whatever we were doing today, he always says he doesn't care but even I don't want to listen to it sometimes so there is no way he does.
As I tapped away making notes Sapnap put his hand on my knee rubbing his thumb in circles comfortingly. He does this all the time whether its sat on the sofa like right now or while we're driving somewhere but its safe to say that I love it, it lets me know he's there in a weird way it's like he's acknowledging my presence. At one point he got up and went to the kitchen and when he came back he had my favourite snack which he put between us so that we could share. What a lovely boyfriend he's being today, I'm starting to wonder what he thinks he's done that's he's trying to make up for.
My lecture finally finished after what seemed like and age so I went to get straight on with my last essay that needed submitting by the end of the month but Sapnap shut my laptop before I could get the document open, he grabbed my hand and pulled me up from the sofa and towards the door.
"Come on were going out for a walk" he said
"Why, I have an essay to work on" I whined
"You'll never leave the house if I don't drag you out so come on" he said handing me my shoes
I put them on and grabbed a jacket because according to the weather it was meant to be a little bit chilly out today, Sapnap grabbed the house keys and pushed me out the door onto the street. We don't often go out on walks because neither of us like leaving the house that much if we were to go out it would most likely be in the car to just go for a drive.
The two of us walked down the street holding hands and swinging them back and forth as we took steps forwards. Sapnap clearly had a good idea of where he wanted to go because he was making turns all over the place. Eventually we ended up at the target not that far from our place and we went in looking at everything like you do in target and we topped up on some snacks for a movie night soon.
We left with our snacks and Sapnap dragged me to the nearest park so we could sit outside and get a bit more fresh air. The nearest park is actually the one that we went to on one of our first dates so we have good memories there, on one of the benches by the duck pond is where we had our first kiss and many more after that.
I always love going back to that park with Sapnap because each time we reminisce on the past and talk about the future which seems to change each time we come here. We walked to the exact bench that we had our first kiss on and sat down looking at the scenery. It had changed quite a bit since the first time we were here, there used to be a little play park for kids in the distance but now thats gone and is replaced with a small flower garden instead.
The first time we came here and we talked about the future all we wanted was to still be together after we left for college which of course happened, then the next time we wanted to move in together which we did and now. I'm not really sure what the future holds for us but I'm sure it will be interesting.
"Wow its been so long since we came here we have changed so much and achieved everything that we wanted to" he said
"I know its so weird to think that our last goal was to move in together and now we have been living together for 5 months where do you think we will end up in the future?" I asked
"On man I have no idea but I would love to still be living together and maybe in a bigger place and maybe even be engaged" he said
This shocked me I never expected him to say that but I guess that is the next logical step for us to take in our relationship.
"I like the sound of that" I said
We went back home and Sapnap went to stream while I worked on my essay he didn't tell me how long he was going to stream for but it will probably be about 3 hours. So I sat down and got on with writing the last 15 pages of my essay which would probably take me the entire time he was streaming maybe longer.
My essay took me almost exactly 4 hours to do but when I tried to submit it it wouldn't upload which happens from time to time. I looked at the upload speed of the WiFi since Sapnap taught me how to do it and it was fine but I assumed that it was being used for something else. This problem has happened before when Sapnap is uploading a video so I assumed that was the issue.
It got up and walked to Sapnap’s streaming room waiting outside for a moment to double check that he wasn't still streaming, I waited a couple minutes and heard nothing so I knocked and went in.
As soon as I went in I saw that Sapnap was still streaming and his face cam was on which meant that I was now on his stream in front of however many people. I've never made such a stupid mistake especially one that outs my entire relationship, I just stood in shock not being able to move and get out of the shot. Sapnap had the exact same reaction his face was filled with shock and fear at the same time.
Nothing prepares you for the moment that you expose yourself live in front of probably 100,000 people or more who will record anything that happens. Nothing prepares you for the chaos that will ensue when you do the before mentioned thing and definitely nothing prepares you for the guilt you feel doing so.
"Um hi y/n" He said trying to make things less awkward
"Hey" I replied shyly
He motioned for me to come over because there was no point trying to hide this anymore since no one will believe anything we say now. I stood next to Sapnap luckily being short enough that I still fit in frame but he had obviously given up caring at this point because he pulled me down into his lap to sit while we talked to his chat. Again he did the thing where he rubs his thumb in a circle on my leg and this time it really was for comfort.
"Well chat this is y/n and shes my... girlfriend" he said
"Hi everyone" I said shyly
"Now chat I'm going to need you to be nice to her or I'll be angry because she is very precious to me" he said
His chat were going insane telling others to clip this and people getting way to excited about all of this and some were asking questions. The whole chat was going so incredibly fast that it was hard to read all the messages.
We answered some of the basic questions like how long we have been together and other things, people also asked if George and Dream knew which of course they did and they have made jokes about Sapnap having a girlfriend but no one ever took it too seriously. At one point dream joined the call and started mocking us for being stupid and exposing ourselves and he told some stories that he knew we wouldn't mind him saying which the chat enjoyed.
I started yawning more and more as I stayed on the stream because I wasn't keeping my mind busy my tiredness was taking over. I leant back into Sapnap to rest my head on his shoulder, he out his hand on my head running it through my hair which is very relaxing.
"Are you tired?" He asked
"No I'm fine I can stay awake" I said
"I don't want to hear it I know you've been awake for over 24 hours so you are going to sleep" he almost demanded
He put his arms around my waist and pulled me into a comfortable position where I closed my eyes and fell asleep almost right away forgetting that Sapnap was still streaming but it doesn't matter.

Part Two
New York, 2016
This was bad. Very, very bad. I had seen the secretary come in the compound over the screen of the security monitors. He marched into my home, unannounced and unwelcome, holding himself with purpose. I followed him over the screens, tracking his movements. I watched as he was led through the building, up the elevator and into...the conference room? Oh this was bad. Very, very bad.
I raced as fast as I could. By the time I got the to conference room, the whole group was already sitting in front of the secretary. I saw Wanda first. Her back was to me, but I could see her rigid frame and I knew something was happening. My  father saw me approaching through the glass walls. He shot me a look that said "Don't do it. Don't come in here." I didn't obey.
The secretary stopped speaking abruptly when I walked through the doors. He gave me a quizzical look, did a once over and immediately looked at my father. Surely I don't look that much like Tony.
"Sorry I'm late, no one informed me about this team meeting," I gasped, short of breath from all the running. Of course, this was pushing it. As much as I wanted to be a part of the group, fighting was not my style, so I often got left out of important Avengers activities. I got to live with them, but that was it. Tony rose from his seat. He mumbled an apology to the secretary and gently ushered I out of the room. I would have fought back, but seeing the look on my father's face was enough to shut me up. And I never shut up. The secretary resumed his story. Something about golf and a heart attack.
My dad turned to face me. "Look kid, I get that you want to know what's going on, and you will, but today isn't the day."
"Okay," I said. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be, it's okay to be curious," he replied, walking back into the meeting. "Stay upstairs, okay hun?" I nodded and started the trek back up to my room. I shut the door and flopped onto my bed. Out of my long list of pet peeves, this was number one. Sure, I didn't want to fight, but come on family, I should at least get to be in on what's going on! Maybe I could help. I have powers for God sake. I am more than capable of helping the Avengers. But they always saw me as the little girl who needs protection.
"April, pull up security footage of the conference room please," I asked. April, the AI I built, that was modeled after Friday, projected the video surveillance from the ceiling. "Volume up." The group was in the same position as from when I left. The secretary was passing around the room. There was a thick white book being passed around the table.
"The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place," Steve said quietly. "I feel we've done that."
The secretary looked down at him. "Tell me Cap, do you know where Thor and Banner are right now?" What? You were so confused. Why did the secretary care where my uncles were? No one answered the secretary's question, so he kept talking. I racked your brain to find the answers on my own. "...this is the middle ground." The secretary pointed at the book, now lying untouched on the table.
"And if we come to a decision you don't like?" Natasha asked.
"The you retire," the secretary responded. With that, he left the room and I scurried back downstairs.
Everyone was in the living room. I sat in the stairwell, again being uninvited to this group discussion. I listened to them fight. I figured out what was going on. The United Nations were being ungrateful little bitches and hated that they didn't have control over my family. So they gave an ultimatum: give in or give up. From the sounds of it, Uncle Rhodes, Vision and two of my four parents were in agreement with the accords. Steve and Sam were against it. Wanda hadn't said a word. Tension was growing high, I could feel it. I heard my father conclude that he won and a thud of the accords being tossed on the coffee table. Someone got up and left. Before I had the chance to act, the door to the stairwell was torn open. Steve pushed through and nearly stepped on me.
"Eavesdropping?" He smiled.
"You kicked me out, what else am I supposed to do?" I retorted. I noticed the tears welling in Steve's eyes. "Pops, what's wrong?"
Steve's glance fluttered to the ground. "Peggy. She, um..." was all he said. All he had to say. I  was smart enough to read between the lines. I stepped forward and hugged Steve. He smiled, grateful that he had me. I knew how much Peggy meant to him. When I was little, he'd always tell me the story about how they met, how they never got that dance. And every time I would make him dance with me. He even took me to visit her once. I was ten and it was Christmas time. Steve told me that he wanted his favorite girl to meet his favorite niece. Now that was all but a memory. I held him tight before telling him to go. It was okay, I could handle the others. He left without a second glance.
Within days the team was scattered. Steve and Sam had gone to Peggy's funeral. Natasha was off to the signing of the Accords in Vienna. And then all hell broke loose when the bombs went off at the signing ceremony. As always, I  were left home. I had no idea what was going on. At first this break in the team was about the Accords, but somehow Steve's old pal Bucky got involved. I didn't know what to think. The next thing I knew, everyone left for Berlin to rescue Steve and Sam from jail, leaving myself, Wanda and Vision at home.
When night fell, I was in my room, sulking as one would say. I was spending my evening flipping through Tumblr. There was a new superhero everyone was talking about. He called himself Spider-Man. New York based, focused on small neighborhood crimes. By YouTube footage alone, it was obvious he was a rookie. Soon enough, though, I accidentally conducted a full fledged search on this guy. He seemed shady. Sure, he's helping old ladies cross the street and all, but he just has a vibe. I couldn't put my finger on it. April broke me out of my research when she told me that there was a security breach in the compound. I pulled up the security camera footage and saw Clint Barton in my living room with Wanda levitating a knife at his nose.
I rushed downstairs. When I got to the living room Vision was holding Clint by the neck. I watched in silence as Wanda used her powers on Vision. She made it look easy. Slowly, Vision sunk to his knees. Wanda pushed further and the floor gave way. Vision was pushed through all seventy-four thousand levels of the compound. Wanda and Clint were about to turn to run out when you revealed yourself.
"Now was that really necessary?" I smirked. "We just had the floors waxed."
"Y/n," Clint warned.
"I'm not sitting on my ass," I said. Clint smirked and nodded. He knew he couldn't stop me anyways.
One car ride, plane flight and van trip later, I was in Germany. As it turns out, Steve wanted Clint and Wanda on his side, along with some ant dude named Scott. Scott was cool. Him and I sat together on the plane ride and watched Die Hard. He was asleep in the van when we pulled over in the airport parking lot. Clint told me to stay in the van. For once, I listened. I heard voices belonging to Steve and Sam. Clint slid open the van doors abruptly, shaking Scott awake. I chuckled to myself as he fangirled over my Pops. A voice over the intercom said something in a language I didn't know. A voice I didn't recognize said that the airport was being evacuated.
"Stark." Sam muttered.
Scott looked puzzled. Clearly he hadn't been filled in either. "Stark?" he asked.
I step out of the van. "Yes?" Steve and Sam look at me with wide eyes. Clint gave Steve a sheepish shrug. Behind their little blue car stood Bucky Barnes. I knew who he was. I learned about him in school. I knew he was some evil super soldier that attacked Natasha and Steve. He looked scary. He looked exactly like the type of guy to hurt my Mama and Pops. I held his glance until Steve spoke up.
"Y/n, what are you doing here?" Steve whisper-shouted. His voice always got quiet when he 'yelled' at me.
"I hitchhiked." I replied, knowing that at this point Steve didn't have the time to argue with me. He shook his head in defeat and took a deep breath.
"Suit up."
The airport was huge. Our group got suited up and started for the runway. I didn't know how Steve knew where to find my dad, but I followed him anyways. Before I could get any closer, Bucky held me back.
"It's, uh, not gonna be safe. You should stay here and keep low," he said. I frowned. I did not come all this way to not fight. But even still, I nodded. Bucky scared me. He and Sam took off in another direction to find the getaway jet. I laughed. This whole thing was ridiculous. My attention turned to the sound of my father and Rhodey flying down from the sky.
"Ross gave me 36 hours to bring you in," Tony started. "That was 24 hours ago. Can you help a brother out?"
"You're after the wrong guy," Steve replied nonchalantly.
"Your judgement is askew. Your old war buddy killed innocent people yesterday-"
"And there are five more super soldiers just like him. I can't let the doctor find 'em first Tony. I can't."
"Steve," Natasha approached him slowly. "You know what's about to happen. Do you really wanna punch your way out of this one?"
I took this as my cue. "No, but I will," I said, emerging from my hiding spot. I looked at the faces of your family. My gaze fell on Tony and my smile dropped. He looked angry.
"You brought my daughter into this?" Tony yelled, turning to Steve.
"Technically, I brought myself," I said. "You really think you were gonna leave me out of all the fun?"
Tony pinched his brow. "Y/n, this is serious."
"No it's not," I objected. "No, this got personal the second you thought you were gonna loose Pops to Bucky." No one moved after I said that.
"Alright, I've run out of patience," my father finally spoke. He cupped his hands around his mouth. "Underoos!"
Before I had a chance to process, a red and black blur whipped past my head. It landed on top of a nearby van. It was Spider-Man. As in the Spider-Man. He had taken Cap's shield from him. I said nothing. My father could have recruited me, but instead he chose this little neighborhood nobody. That hurt a little. The Spider-thing and my father bantered for a minute. So he's never even been in a real fight before, I thought.
"You've been busy," Steve smirked.
Tony turned back to Steve. "And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint and Y/n, rescuing Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. I'm trying to keep-" he paused, sighing. "I'm trying to keep to keep you from tearing the Avengers apart."
"You did that when you signed." Steve kept his cool. My father did not.
"Alright, we're done. You're gonna turn Barnes over, you're gonna come with us, now, because it's us! Or squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction of being polite. Come on."
Everyone stood still, waiting. Steve put his web-cuffed hands in the air. Clint shot them free from a mile away. I saw Scott -or a tiny version of him. Spider-Man noticed too, right before Scott grew and kicked him in the face. My dad flew off to retrieve Wanda and Rhodey was ready to take on Cap.
"Hey Mr. Stark, what should I do?" Spider-Man asked. He sounded young.
"What we discussed, keep your distance, web 'em up!" My father barked, as he flew towards Clint and Wanda.
"Okay, copy that," Spider-Man replied. He shot a web at me first. It caught my arm and I got whipped to the ground. I glared at him.
"Really?" I hissed.
"Just following Mr. Stark's orders," He said before swinging off after Bucky. I was left on the ground once everyone dispersed. I tried pulling my hand out of the sticky material that was shot at me, but it was stronger than glue. I was forced to watch the action unfold and wait until Natasha ran past me.
"Mama, a little help here?" I called out to her.
She stopped for a second. "Sorry honey, I really don't want you getting hurt." She ran off and I groaned. No one ever wants me to get hurt. I suppose I should be grateful, but in a moment like this, gratitude is hard to find. I started toying with the web. I wondered if I could break down the molecules. Surely there had to be some sort of H2O compound in it somewhere.
My power surged through me, the current flowing to the hand webbed to the ground. I managed to manipulate the water out, just as I predicted I would. The substance melted off my hands. Gross, I thought. I wiped the remaining web on my pants and got up. The water from the webbing fell to the ground with a splash.
I stood up and examined my surroundings. Natasha was on the ground fighting Scott, who shrunk down and flipped her over her own head. The Black Panther was on the other side of the roof, battling Steve. I didn't move. As much as I wanted to be included, I couldn't bring myself to fight. Not now at least.
The two teams assembled, divided by a line on the pavement. How cinematic. I was on Cap's side. I never meant to fight against my father. If anything, I thought it was funny. I looked out at the team in front of me. They were all lined up, Rhodey, the cat, Tony, Nat, the Spider-brat. Vision hovered above them. A bead of sweat trickled down the back of my neck. I were scared. I wasn't made to fight.
"What do we do Cap?" Sam asked.
"We fight." Steve moved first. We followed in suit. My dad's team mimicked my team's actions and walked closer. We  broke into a jog and then a full out run. This was really about to happen. I hoped that my family would go easy on me. I knew what I was doing. I reassured myself of that. I have done a bunch of training, especially with Wanda. I could move the freaking elements with my mind and manipulate gravity! As if the Spider-Man could beat that. I am Y/n fricking Stark. I can do this.
I put a smile on your face, contrasting everyone else's bitter looks. "I call the spider!" I yelled, just as everyone began the battle. Spider-Man heard me and slowed down just a bit. I cocked an eyebrow. He resumed his pace and ran straight for me. I ran headfirst towards him. He threw out his arm to web me, but I was faster. With a swish of my hands, I changed his gravitational pull and made his feet flip out from under him. He landed on his back with a hard thud. As gently as I could, I morphed the pavement under him to trap his hands. "Careful there, Spider-boy. Don't wanna get stepped on." I walked away. I made it about ten steps before I heard the sound of concrete cracking. I turned around and saw that Spider-Man was breaking free of his restraints. I was shocked. He has super strength. Great. I should have moved out of his way because the second he got one hand free, I was webbed against a truck.
"For the record," he said, getting up in my face. "It's Spider-Man." He swung off into the airport through a glass window. I watched the glass rained onto the ground. Taking a deep breath, I quickly removed myself from the webs. I needed a plan. A strategy. I thought about at the opposing team. Everyone was scattered around the airport. I thought about who would be easiest to fight. But then I realized, the strategy wasn't about how they'd fight, but who. There was no way in hell that my parents or Uncle Rhodey would even think about fighting me. The Black Panther didn't know me, so he was a threat. The worst Vision could do was pick me up and fly away, so he was in thr safe zone. That left the spider. I smiled to myself. Rematch time.
By the time I found Spider-Man, he had already webbed Sam and Bucky to the floor. He was perched on top of a light post, saying something about impressing my father. Sam's mini falcon whizzed past me and grabbed Spider-Man by the web. He got pulled out a window, banging his side into the pane on the way out. I ran over to Sam and Bucky. Quickly, I destroyed the webbing and helped them up. They both gave me a quick "Thanks kid," before running back out. I followed them, staying loose on their trail.
Once I got outside my eyes scanned the area for the Spider. I saw Wanda piling cars on my father and Natasha fighting Clint. Then I spotted him, fighting Cap. He was underneath a jet bridge . Cap threw his shield at the support beams and the whole thing fell on top of Spider-Man. He caught it of course, but Cap ran away. I formed my plan.
"Hey!" I called out. I walked around the collapsing jet bridge. I stood in front of the struggling boy. Or man, I didn't know. "Remember me?"
"Heh, how could I forget such a pretty face," he grunted, starting to fold under the weight of the jet bridge. "You wanna give me a hand?" I glared at his face comment, but lifted the jet bridge anyway. He ran out and I let it fall. Both of us stopped for a minute, gasping for breath beside the rubble. He was close enough to hit. So I did. Without warning I threw a punch of air at him. It hit him right in the chest and he got blown back into the side of a van. "What the hell man?" He got up and shot a web at me. I dodged and threw another gust of wind. It shot him out of the air. He webbed at a pole and swung past my face. I redirected his gravitational pull, but not before he got a kick to my face. We both got thrown in different directions. I landed hard on the ground, pain shooting up my spine. I got up first, now angry. Forgetting about my powers, I lunged at him and threw a punch. I missed and he shot webs at my feet, holding me down. Immediately, I dissolved them and Spider-Man's eyes widened. Well, his mask's eye holes did anyway.
"How did you do that?" He yelled. "What kind of witchcraft-"
"Its not witchcraft," I spat. "It's called manipulation of the elements, look it up. I figured there had to be some water compound in this and I was right. All I had to do was remove it."
"That's so cool! And how did you do the foot thing earlier? Was that just the wind you do or do you have telekinesis too? Are you like the Scarlet Witch?" He rambled on. I took this to my advantage and caught him off guard. I used the van he'd hit earlier to become his gravitational pull and yanked. He went slamming into it and groaned. When he tried to get back up, I was already five steps ahead of him. Morphing the earth metals in the van, I contorted it into a shell that crushed Spider-Man until he was covered and stuck.
I heard Scott say that he was gonna tear himself in half over the earpiece. I got distracted from holding Spider-Man down and turned to see a giant Scott. Spider-Man broke free. He tore the shell off himself and threw it at me. I was wacked across the side and fell the the ground again.
"Holy shit!" he says, looking at Scott. His back was to me and I gave him one last wind push. He fell on his face and I laughed. "Oh come on, don't you have some dolls to play with or something?" I just scoffed and walked past him, stepping past his hand that was on the ground. He let out a yelp and you kept walking. Dolls, I thought. I'm thirteen I don't play with dolls. I watched as the rest of the battle went down. I wasn't quite sure what to do. I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
Natasha was standing just behind me. "Come with me." We started jogging off. It was natural for me to listen to her. I realized about five seconds in that technically she was my enemy right about now, but I shrugged it off. I ran through the fight, past the big Scott and towards a warehouse. I could see the outline of a jet get bigger as I approached it. Natasha stopped behind the entrance. She was waiting.
"So what do we do?" I asked.
"We wait to fight," She replied, not taking her eyes off the horizon. I came to realize this probably means I would be fighting her. Maybe she wanted to use me as a hostage or something. No, that's silly. Right?
Steve and Bucky got closer to the building I was in. They nearly made it until Vision laser beamed the shit out of a nearby communications tower. Wanda caught it before it fell, giving the two men time to race towards the jet. I stepped out to help Wanda. The both of us were able to hold the rubble long enough for Steve and Bucky to get through. I panted, proud of myself for getting this far.
A searing pain sliced through my brain. Both myself and Wanda fell to the ground, screaming. I could barely look up to see that Rhodey was sending some sort of wave through the air. The tower fell and Natasha was quick to haul me out of the way before I got crushed. I might be better than Spider-Man, but I definitely don't have his super strength.
Steve and Bucky still managed to get through the falling paces of metal and concrete. Natasha left my side and marched swiftly towards the two men. I couldn't hear them, but I could sense the tension from a mile away. Natasha lifted her arm, taser aimed and ready. Steve held his shield up in defense as Natasha shoots....the Black Panther? I guess she's on our side now? The jet started to take off and you watch an Natasha continues to battle the Panther. I fell to my side, wiped out.
My father flew into the warehouse just as the jet leaves. You thought maybe he was going to fight Natasha for betraying him. I was wrong. He was coming for me. He landed beside me and dropped to his knees. His helmet closed and I could see the worry plastered on his cut up face. He knelt beside me and gently held me up.
"Are you okay?" he asked. I nodded, not really able to make words. He looked over at Natasha, who was looking at us. She had an apologetic look, but I know she doesn't regret letting Cap go. My father let me go and charged off after the jet plane. I lied down, enjoying the feeling of cold concrete against your skin. I closed my eyes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I paced around the living room, driving Nat crazy. I knew that the second my father got home I would be in deep shit. So when Friday alerted me that Tony was home my heart rate went up 29373%. The battle, this fight, it ended worse then I could have imagined. Natasha told me that my father could have died. Rhodey was paralyzed from the waist down. I had no idea if I'd ever see my Pops again. This was bad. Very, very bad.
I slowly walked down the main hall towards the front doors. I was scared. My hands and the back of my neck were sweating. I knew exactly what was coming. Every time I had asked my dad if I could be an honorary Avenger, I got the same lecture. That it was too dangerous, I didn't have the proper training and it's too much for his little girl to handle. Even when I asked to just be a part of the business side of the team, Tony laughed and said no. I've broken a lot of my father's rules, but this was the line. And I had gone so far over.
As I approached the front door, I could hear my father speaking. I heard another voice too. My heart dropped. It was Spider-Man. Why was Spider-Man here? I ducked behind a wall and listened in to the conversation.
"...outstanding job kid. Your fighting technique was on par. And, listen, I know we're not allowed to have kids on this team, but if we need you again, we'll call." I heard my father say.
"Thanks Mr. Stark. This was so cool," Spider-Man replied. I wondered if he had his suit on or not. I wanted to know who this guy was. I revealed myself from behind the wall. The two looked at me. I looked at my father first and fought the urge to burst into tears. He looked awful. His face was all cut up and the black eye he got was still a little swollen. I glanced at the figure beside him and frowned. Spider-Man was a kid. He looked like he was my age. He had a mop of curly brown hair and doe eyes. He was almost equally as beat up as my dad and I gracefully took credit for that.
"Y/n, this is Peter. He's, uh, one of my interns. Kid, this is Y/n," Tony said. My annoyance turned to anger. Now my father was lying to me?
"How old are you?" I asked, eyes narrowing. I knew that I sounded rude, but this kid had kicked me in the face twice. I didn't think he deserved my manners.
"I'm fourteen," Peter gulped. A year older than me. And I kicked his ass, I thought. "You gave me quite a fight back in Berlin."
"Yeah and I beat your ass doing it."
"Speaking of which," Tony spoke up, "I have to talk to Y/n about that. Happy will take you home Peter." Peter nodded and said goodbye to my father. He said goodbye to me, to which I didn't reply. Peter frowned at that as he walked out the door.
My dad turned to me when the door shut. "What," he began, "were you thinking?"
"Well I-"
"No. This is where you listen. Do you know how dangerous that mission was. Do you know how many people got hurt? You saw what happened to Rhodey, that could have been you!"
"But it wasn't" I retorted.
Tony's frown deepened. "That is not the point. You put yourself in serious danger, and for what? So you could feel a little more included? You could have died. This was my one rule, my one ask of you, and your broke it."
"Oh, come on now, I'm a Stark, it's in our blood to not listen to our fathers." My father gave me the coldest look and I shut down. I took a deep breath. "Look, I didn't know that it was gonna be this bad. You know me, daddy, I'm not a fighter, I'm not some hero. You think I would have gone if I knew it would turn out like this? I thought this was just gonna be another one your you and Pops' stupid fights. And yes, I could have gotten hurt, but I think I handled myself pretty well. You saw what I did you that little protege of yours. I beat him to the curb."
"Y/n you were reckless. Peter was prepared for this, he was ready."
"And I still beat him."
"Y/n you're not listening to me. This is why I chose Peter over you. I would have taken you if I knew you wouldn't do something stupid. But you did anyway." And with that he walked away, leaving me, teary-eyed in the front hall.
Tony came by my room later that night to apologize. He said that he was sorry for being harsh, that he just cared about me and I scared him. I knew he meant it and I forgave him, because that's what we do. Besides, it wasn't Tony I was angry with. This is why I chose Peter over you. Tony's words echoed through my head. I knew that he loved me more, I'm his daughter, he had to. But I were jealous. Jealous that stupid Peter Parker got the praise for the work I've wanted to hear for ages. And mad at that stupid spider for being stupid.
This is when I decided that I hate Peter Parker.
Masterlist
Pairing: Rosa Diaz x fem!reader
Summary: Rosa works a murder case to prove your innocence, inspired by this
Warnings: mentions of murder, infidelity, poorly written casework
A/N: I have only one wish: feedback on this bit of chaos here.
-
At this point in Rosa’s life, there were only three things that brought her memorable pain.
The first was being sent to juvie after snapping under the weight of her parents' expectations.
The second was being released from juvie and realizing the two people who’d played a part in her downfall no longer gave a shit about what happened to her.
The third was seeing you, sitting beside Boyle’s desk in handcuffs.
Of course, she didn’t let anyone see this as she attempted to make her way to her own desk undetected, but you wouldn’t--couldn’t--let her think you were a criminal.
“Rosa--”
“Detective Diaz,” she growled as she walked past with her head held high, surprising herself by restraining from hurting you when you grabbed a fistful of her jacket. “Let me go--”
“I was framed!” you cried out with tears filling your eyes as you raised them to meet hers. “Please. I know you don’t have to believe me, but I’m begging you. I’m the same person you’ve spoken to all these nights. I’ll tell you everything, just...please.”
Her stance was rigid as her mind focused on your fearful expression and the desperate way you clung to her, as if you knew the moment you let go, everything you’d had the last few months was over. Realizing everyone’s eyes were on the two of you as you stared each other down, she roughly pulled herself away to walk over to her desk and deposit her bag and helmet. Your hands dropped into your lap in defeat, only to rise again when Rosa pulled you to your feet by the piece of metal holding your wrists together and led you into an interrogation room.
“Talk,” she ordered once the door was closed and you were seated at the table.
“Early this morning, they found the body of one of the supervisors at my job. Apparently he was killed last night and one of my coworkers pointed the blame toward me, saying that I wanted his position and tried to force him to retire early.”
“You were with me last night. I mean, unless you killed the guy after our call.” She met your widened eyes and sighed. “Sorry.”
“I just don’t know what to do. I know it probably looks bad because I actually am up for a promotion, I had a meeting about it a few days ago. But I’d never kill anyone! I swear I wouldn’t, and I really hope that--”
“I believe you.” She slipped into the chair across from you and squeezed your hands briefly before pulling away again. “And not just because I want to believe that I’m not falling for some power-hungry murderer, but because I trust you not to lie to me.”
A soft smile formed on your lips but a knock sounded at the door before you could respond. You watched her stand and approach the door again to open it, growing nervous again when you saw one of the detectives that arrested you.
“Holt’s out today, so Sarge is running the briefing and he needs you there too. It’s about this case.”
“Fine.” She faced you again with her hand still holding the door open. “I’ll be back. Just breathe.”
Rosa followed Charles out of the room and down to the briefing room, cutting off any questions he began to ask with a sharp “no”. They were the last to arrive, everyone else seated and looking at Terry standing in front of a board holding some of the case details.
“I’m putting myself on this case,” she announced before anyone else could speak as she approached the board to read over everything.
“Don’t you think you’re too close to this, Rosa?” Charles questioned carefully, yelping at the expression she offered him in response. “I meant to say ‘welcome to the team’!”
“Boyle’s right, Diaz,” Terry spoke up next as she turned away from the board. “What was that in the bullpen?”
“Innocent until proven guilty.” She walked over to sit on one of the tables in front. “Go on.”
“Alright.” He looked down at the notes he’d obtained before entering the room. “So according to the medical examiner, the time of death is set around 9:17pm last night--”
“Y/N didn’t do it,” Rosa quickly interjected. “A camera in the lobby of her building will verify her entering a few minutes before then, and she doesn’t leave after that.”
“Rosa, I know you don’t want your friend to get in trouble, but this--”
“I was with her.” She took a deep breath to prepare herself for not only spilling the secret of her unconfirmed relationship, but to essentially come out as bisexual for the first time ever. “We were in the park together with our dogs and I walked her home after. I know it was 9:15 when we got there because the huge clock in her lobby said 10:15, and it’s been an hour ahead since Daylight Savings Time. I was at her door for a few minutes and when I was leaving, the clock said 10:20.”
“So how do you know she didn’t leave after that?” Jake questioned, causing her to sigh again.
“Because I’m a few blocks away from her and she Facetimed me when I sent her a text telling her I was home. She fell asleep on the phone.”
“Oh damn. You’re in love, girl,” Gina commented, a grin forming when all Rosa did was roll her eyes in response.
“Okay so she has an alibi, but we also have to rule out the possibility that she had an accomplice.” Terry sighed when Rosa gave him a threatening look. “Look, I want to believe she’s innocent too--”
“Then believe it.”
“--but we have to consider everything, Diaz. It looks pretty suspicious that the last person to see our victim alive also had a reason to want him gone.”
“How do you know she was the last to see him alive?” Rosa took the piece of paper Amy held out to her holding a witness statement, forcing herself not to overreact when she read that Y/N had been spotted talking to her supervisor next to his car. “This means nothing. Check into the person that gave this statement.”
“Rosa--”
“How do we even know she was the last person he saw? And that the person who ‘witnessed’ this didn’t just follow the vic home and kill him just to frame her? What, because of some camera footage and he said, she said?” Barely a moment of silence passed before Rosa spoke again. “Exactly. Santiago and Boyle, meet me downstairs. I’m driving.”
She dropped the witness statement on the table in front of Amy and stormed out, grabbing the keys to her squad car on her way back to the interrogation room you were waiting in. Your eyes snapped up from your hands when the door opened, relaxing slightly as Rosa entered the room.
“I’m going to be out for a bit trying to investigate more of the people involved, but you’ll be okay here.” She hesitated for a moment before approaching your side and leaning down to kiss you for the second time in 12 hours. “I love you.”
She was back out the door as quickly as she arrived.
-
Waiting to find out if you’d be charged with a murder you didn’t commit was hard. Being transitioned from the quiet calm of the interrogation room to the holding cell adjoining the chaotic bullpen was hard too, but at least your hands weren’t chained together anymore. You sat in the farthest corner and counted the minutes until they seemed to all blend together, and all you could focus on was the lingering feeling of warmth caused by Rosa’s lips on yours and her confession.
Having given up on your counting long ago, you weren’t sure how much time had passed when the door to the holding cell opened again. You were delighted to see Rosa again, but your hopeful expression shifted to confusion when you saw who she was leading in.
“Mrs. Fenderson?”
“Hi, Y/N.”
The woman spoke softly without meeting your eyes, moving to sit on a nearby bench when Rosa unlocked her cuffs. You eyed her curiously as Rosa gently grabbed your wrist and led you out of the cell, making sure it locked before bringing you over to her desk.
“Um, why is my supervisor’s wife--”
“She did it,” she told you as the two of you sat down. “Well, she had some help.”
You followed the direction she nodded in with your eyes, which widened when you saw a couple officers leading in the one person that accused you of being involved with everything. You watched as they led him to the holding cell too, only turning away when Rosa placed her hand over one of yours.
“How did you…? What?!” you asked, unable to fight off a bit of a smile when Rosa snorted.
“Mrs. Fenderson recently signed up her husband for a pretty hefty life insurance policy, and it didn’t take long to find out those two were boning. I got her to confess to everything while they tracked down her lover, who used the fact that you were up for the same promotion he wanted as a chance to frame you.”
“That’s so fucking crazy,” you responded in a breathless tone as you attempted to wrap your head around the situation for a second, giving up and bringing your free hand to rest on top of hers. “Thank you.”
“Innocent until proven guilty.” She shrugged nonchalantly as she stood, pulling you to your feet as well before you released her hand. “Anyway, it’s super late now and I know you haven’t eaten anything so let’s go.”
“Fine, but I’m paying,” you insisted as the two of you headed toward the elevator, laughing a bit as you remembered something. “As long as we can stop by my apartment first. They don’t exactly let you bring your phone and wallet when you’re arrested for murder.”
“You can pay next time,” she told you with a snort, quickly adding “if I let you.”
The elevator ride passed along silently, and it wasn’t long before you were headed down the street to a 24 hour diner that you’d mentioned to Rosa last night. You waited until you were seated and food was ordered before starting a conversation.
“About what you said earlier,” you began with your gaze locked on the straw wrapper you were toying with, completely missing Rosa’s panicked expression.
“Look, we can just forget I said anything.”
“No!” You lowered your voice after noticing a few wary glances, turning back to Rosa and pulling her hands into yours. “I don’t want to forget it, but I was hoping to say it first.”
“You love me too?”
“I do.” You squeezed her fingers with a grin. “I love you, Rosa, and I love Arlo for giving me an excuse to keep seeing his mom, because I sure as hell would’ve been too nervous to come up with one on my own.”
Expecting Rosa to be too uncomfortable with PDA, you pulled her hands closer to drop a kiss on her knuckles, pleasantly surprised when she pulled away to hold your jaw in place, leaning forward to press her lips to yours.
Chapter seven
After Erik drove away Israel came in to the house grinning even though he low key pissed her off.
She was still happy that she got to spend time with him, Erik was actually bringing happiness and excitement to her dull life and she couldn't be happier about it.
Israel walked right passed her brothers and into the kitchen, not even noticing all her brothers and their friends sitting in the living room looking at her like she lost her mind.
She grabbed a water bottle and began to chug it. Until she heard someone clear their throat. She turned around and started choking on the cold water. Noah got up from the floor and made his way over to pat her on the back.
When she got her choking under Control, she waved at them giving her best smile trying not to look suspicious.
"Who the fuck was that nigga you was wit'?" Her smile dropped.
"What are you talking about I-" Jay cut his eyes at her, daring her to lie to his face. Israel rolled her eyes trying to play it off. "He's Just one of my friends jay, relax."
"Since when do you have guy friends?" He asked walking into the kitchen. Everyone now quiet like he was some sort of king.
"Since when did I have to answer to you?" Israel spit back, looking him up and down. Jay was a bit taken back from her tone because it wasn't like her to get go smart mouth with him.
"Since you were born fuck you mean when? You forgetting that you the youngest?" He said cocking his head back like she just said the most stupidest shit ever. "no but You keep forgetting I'm grown. I can do as I please." She hissed slamming the freighter door shut. "I'm not no damn baby anymore, stop trying to tell me what I can and can't do I'm grown rather you like it or not, the fuck" she said stepping up to him as if he wasn't 6'0 and bulky grown man. not even realizing that she had raised her tone with him...or that she was cussing.
"Girl-" she quickly held her hand up to hush him. "No! I'm so done with this shit! Y'all three get to do whatever y'all want and y'all still live in mom and dads house and don't nobody say shit to y'all but when I hang out with someone of the opposite gender it's a problem? as if you did just sneak that girl In your room not to long ago, as if y'all wasn't fucking in there while mom was downstairs right under your room." She spit out dropping her head down a bit to give him a death stare. She was so irritated and had so much adrenaline running through her, she was shaking.
"You really can't say shit to me jay!" She said slapping her hand on the counter, and her other hand in her hip. Looking like a middle aged black mama yelling at her disobedient child while jay just stood there staring wildly at her but there wasn't much he could say. It was all true. She cut him up and now he was stuck not knowing what to say.
It was quiet in the living room and kitchen.
Jays friends didn't say a thing but they were fully entertained with the argument going on between the two Sibling.
"So what you just fucking random niggas now? Huh? That's where you was last night? At that niggas house being a hoe?" He shouted, veins popping out the side of his head. Israel face dropped at his words and they stung more then she thought they would.
You could hear a pin drop nobody made a move or spoke a word. Just a silent staring contest between the two. Jays fists balled, shoulders squared looking like he was ready to fight while Israel on the other hand was her eyes were getting glossy and her breathing heavy. She could feel the lump in her throat getting harder to swallow.
She cleared her throat and turn to walk back to get her bag by the front door. And heading up stairs, there was nothing else to be said. Israel now knew that her big brother saw her as nothing more then just a hoe, he has made it very clear today.
Israel waited until she was 18 just to talk to men and now he was calling her a hoe not even knowing that she only stayed for the night, And that was all. But there was no point in arguing with jay, he was stubborn and a asshole. if that's what he thought that's what he thought.
She shut her bedroom door and headed straight to her bed, stuffing her face in her pillow tears coming down like a waterfall.
She was Tempted to call Erik just so he could come get her of the hell hole she called home.
Maybe that was over dramatic but she hated it here, she loved her family but being with them 24/7 wasn't something she planned on doing once she turned eighteen. She honestly thought she would have been treated like her brothers were but then again she was never given a fraction of the freedom her brothers has. She was never treated like her feelings mattered, everything has always been about the boys.
You would think that since she's the only daughter her father has she would be treated like a princess and get away with everything but that definitely wasn't the case with her father. She was always the one to get yelled at first, she was always the first one to get blamed for something she didn't do and was always the first to get it the worst of her siblings.
Her father was a strict, mean military man that had no Sympathy for anyone and he clearly passed that down to his oldest son.
She was so sick of crying over them, she was so sick of being mistreated.
With tears still running down her face she sat up and took a deep breath feeling like she was dropping down into that deep hole she liked to hide herself in when she was feeling down.
His words replaying in her head like a broken record. She wasn't a hoe and she knew that and she knew that she didn't sleep with Erik but some how his words sank into her skin so deep that she felt dirty. Like she had committed some sort of sin.
She was only having fun, and finally getting the teenage experience she never got to have when she was younger.
Israel was tired of crying over things her family has said to her it was time for her to stop letting their words hurt her and effort her mental health.
She stood up from her bed and decided that she wanted to take a flower bath and just pray her troubles away.
-
Erik parked his black Mercedes-Benz G-Class outside of the were house he owned. This was the place he kept all of his weapons, books, important papers and information he had collected over the years of him being in college and the navy.
He and ten of his close friends that he met in the navy had formed a elite group of former navy seals. Their jobs were to Take down small governments and expose them. They also would kill small amounts of police officers and clans men which 9 times outta 10 were the same group of men.
About six months age they made a little mistake that almost got them caught which would've cost them their lives which is why they took a break to regroup to better themselves. Erik and three of his boys ace, zeik and Rae all trained the hardest they ever have far as fighting techniques, Brent, rocky and von all worked with weapons and the rest of the boys were hackers.
Today was their first meeting in six months. Erik has changed Plans and moved things from the original date so this meeting is important.
Erik walked to the side door of the warehouse and slide up the side  paneling to reveal the handprint scanner, that was the only way to get into it up less you climb to the very top and through the window but the chances of that happening was slim. Once he was into he went to the corner of the large warehouse and behind the staircase that lead you to go upstairs which was empty.
He walked into the staircase little door where there was a another door that used Voice activation to open. "State your name please." a robotic voice said as it Scanned his face. "Erik Stevens."
"Face scan complete, welcome back erik." The voice said as the heavy Metal door opened to Reveal his underground lab.  "Feels good to be back." Erik Chuckled as he walked down the steps. All of his boys turned their heads from the game of pool to Erik. "Ayo Erik where you been at motherfucka you was supposed to be here a hour and a half ago." Erik grin as he dubed ace up ignoring zeik interrogation. "Right and you be the main one mad if Someone else late to the meetings." Rae butted in.
Erik rolled his eyes.
"If y'all don't shut the fuck up, I gotta life to I just got caught up." He shrugged them off as he walked over to his desk. Rae eyebrows raised as he looked at the rest of them and they all were just as confused as him. Erik and "personal" just didn't go together in the same sentence, if he wasn't working out he was working. Erik was always work, work, work.
Brent smirked as he grabbed his water  bottle and took a sip "him must got a new bitch or sum'" ace snorted "nigga yeah right that nigga ain't been in a relationship in years, Erik fucks and dips." It was true. That just wasn't like Erik.
"All I hear is you motherfuckas being worried about me let's get to work!" Erik clap his hands exactly as he went into the meeting room with the rest of the men following.
-
After a four hour meeting they had finally figured everything out. It was now 10:46 and Erik was tired, Israel sleeping over had him exhausted since it fucked up his sleep schedule. On a normal day Erik was in bed 11 o'clock and up at 6 o'clock in the morning. Sleep was very important to a healthy life style. It was Proven that people that get at least 7 hours of sleep they live longer.
Soon as Erik got home he took a shower and got straight in bed. he didn't even bother putting on clothes.
It's almost been a week since Erik has last spoken to Israel since he had been so busy. It's been strictly wake up, eat, work, train and work some more he didn't really have time to hang or call.
He felt a little bad for it but he knew that she knew he wasn't ignoring her intentionally...at least he hoped she knew that.
Today Erik was going to the gun range with ace just to do some training and catch up with him since they really hasn't had the chance to do that.
Since ace's car was in the shop right now so erik decided to pick him up instead of him catching a Uber. Soon as erik pulled up to aces Apartment he saw he step out of his door and jogged over to the passenger side.
"Wassup E," he said as he sat his bag down in the back seat. "Wassup bro you ready to show these niggas how to aim?" Erik said jokily as he drove off.
Erik cooked his AMT and aimed it at the head of the paper man all the way in the range and let multiple bullets fly from it giving him a slight rush. He adjusted his safety glasses and gripped the handle of the gun again before pulling the trigger but aiming at a different figure. Him and ace were both in their own little worlds before the ringtone from Erik's phone pulled him back down to earth, it caught aces attention too.
It was Israel.
Erik beamed down at the screen but Debated if he should answer it or not, he wanted to he really did but decided it would be best if he called her later since he could barely hear from all the gun shots being fired.
"Who was that? Got you smiling and shit..." ace asked with his eyebrows raised. Placing his gun down to face Erik. "Nigga why you so damn nosy?" Erik cut his eyes at him while blindly putting his phone back into his pocket.
"What you mean nigga? I'm just trying to see who making my dawg so happy is that a crime?" He said jokingly jerking his head back. Erik rolled his eyes.
"It's was one of my friends." Erik stated before grabbing his gun again trying to get off the topic. Ace put his hand out and pushed the gun down before he could pull the trigger.
"What friend? cause the last time i checked we had the same circle of friends?" Erik sigh getting annoyed with aces interrogation. Did he want to tell his best friend about Israel? Hell nah. Because he know his best friend and he knows he's going to go over bored and start doing the most with questions.
"You don't know her. Drop it nigga."
"Her? So you got a bitch or sumn'" Erik shock his head not even meaning to slip up and say anything. It was to late to take back now. "Nah she not my girl, we just been chilling." Erik shrugged, as he corrected him.
"Lemme see what she look like nigga how you know I don't know her?"
"Hell nah nigga stop being nosy-"
"Ok but if I had a bitch I would show you-"
"She not a bitch tho." Erik said sternly in their back and forth bickering. As annoyed as Erik was ace had a point and they both knew it. Ace talked to him about everything and if he was interested in a girl Erik would be the first to know about it. Erik put his gun on safety and sat it down before digging In his back pocket to grab his phone.
He scrolled through his camera until he found his favorite picture of Israel. It was one she sent to him not to long ago, her hair was wild with tiny ringlet coils. Her lips and mouth were stained red from the dumdum that hung from it. She had her white silk night gown on and a dainty rose flower necklace that hung between her collarbone.
Erik handed him the phone and watched as he brought his fist up to his mouth. "Nigga she fine as fuck damn where you find her at?"
"A party I went to not to long ago, she was shy as fuck she would barely talk to me." Erik chuckled taking his phone back to put it back in his pocket. "We been hanging out the last few weeks, she cool." Erik said nonchalantly to make it seem like he wasn't feeling shordy as much as he was. To someone like didn't know Erik as well as ace did he would've them really thinking he didn't like her and it wasn't a big deal but ace knew.
"You feeling her?" Ace asked facing Erik now, Erik shrugged.
"Like I said she cool."
"Mm." Was all ace said. Erik didn't need to answer, ace already knew the answer.
worst case scenario part 5
finally!! so sorry its been an age to anyone still here but lives been interesting atm so....  also this really feels a bit rambley and the ending is deff underdeveloped but I just kind of wanted this done tbh x
[previous part] [part 1]
warnings:  hospitals - ICU, ventilation that sort of stuff, just a lot of ANGST post a difficult birth - please don't read if this could be upsetting for you, and my inbox is always open if u wanna chat :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In a complete 360 degree flip from earlier that day, after leaving the hospital Tom had become obsessively attached to Aurora. They’d got back to his parents place in Tom’s car; Aurora in the carseat Y/n and Tom had ready in their car door for her arrival. Clearly his parents had already pre-warned his brothers, who had thankfully already gone over to Tom and Y/n’s - collecting the Moses basket amongst other items Harry had been listed off from his mother.
Apart from explaining a little behind her name to his parents on the journey back, Tom had spoken very little, choosing to keep himself to himself - physically stationing himself beside the Moses basket the whole time. Of course, there had been a bit of light conversation and almost procedural passing round of Aurora between all her uncles and grandparents, which Tom had kept a wether eye on - but ultimately not engaged.
He also knew that physically his body was failing him. Although eating a little of the lasagne Sam had made for everyone, he could only stomach a minuscule amount, which did little to boost his energy levels. It felt as though sleeping was the enemy, because he was neither ready to leap into the car if the phone went; or to hear the smallest sound from the wicker basket, suggesting something was wrong. So as much as he tried to fight it, before even nine o’clock he began to dose off on the familiar couch of his parents sitting room - occasionally jerking himself awake before loosing the fight once again.
Nikki had tried to gently push him to take a break in the spare bedroom, which had been Tom’s before he’d moved out, but was unsuccessful - every time he retaliated with a stern shake of his head, while checking his phone just in case he’d missed a notification. Eventually Nikki relented, later in the evening both her and Dom retiring to bed; once Sam had agreed to stick around downstairs till a bit later - as a chef he worked till late in the nights, so even on his days off like today, his sleep schedule was just a little fucked.
Left alone with his new little niece and now pretty firmly asleep brother, Sam draped a blanket over the latter just in time for Aurora to start fussing in the need of a bottle. His mum had explained how to do everything, how to mix the formula and heat it up, so after scooping up the little wriggling girl in the hope his brother wouldn’t get disturbed, Sam dealt with her. To be honest no matter how clueless and useless he felt, Aurora was just so cute - if a little wrinkly and alien looking, but in a good way. This was the first baby any of them had had, so the first time Sam experienced this instant connection and love for the little being that was his niece or nephew. It was terrifying, lifting the bottle against her lips for the first time, but then it just sort of seemed to work. She was incredibly smart for less than 24 hours old, instantly latching on, like she had done for Haz at the hospital.
That gave Sam a little confidence in his ability as an uncle, giving himself a satisfied nod while swaying from the kitchen to move back into the living room. It was just a preference to be within reach of Tom… just in case. His poor brother still hadn’t moved, slumped against the corner of the sofa, leaning toward the now empty Moses basket. Normally, Sam seeing his supposed heart throb of a brother looking as rough as he did now - double chin, mouth hanging slightly open, deep sunken eyes - he would’ve taken a photo to blackmail him with. Now though, it was just desperately sad, seeing his brother like this, hand still clutching his phone tightly above the blanket.
Rather hoping the calm would last for a while, Sam successfully finished off feeding Aurora; winded and then put her down to sleep again just in time. Because, perhaps expectedly, Tom’s phone began to blare off the default iPhone ringtone making Tom jump and throw the device across the room as he awoke with a start. Sam ran to grab it off the floor, mainly with the hope of turning it off before Aurora was awoken too - knowing that it was best tonight to tackle one thing at a time.
And so he immediately swiped to answer the call, not even registering who the call was from, much rather just wanting the noise to stop.
“Hello?”
“Sam? It’s Harrison” Tom had jumped up from his seat hovering beside Sam with petrified look. It took barely seconds for Tom to snatch the phone back, launching questions down the receiver.
“Slow down would you? Y/n is fine I was just phoning to check in.”
“Oh er yeh… um sorry I just… just thought…”
“It’s the other way mate. Nurse says she’s starting to get there cos first she moved her arm a bit when we pinched her shoulder and then I just called because she started to like gag and now the ventilator thing is gone.”
“W-what?”
“I think she’s breathing by herself? Like she’s got an oxygen mask instead of the tubes down her throat.” Clearly Harrison was not, by any means, a medical expert.
“They said she would have the ventilator for a few days at least.”
“I guess Y/n got bored? To be fair she couldn’t ever sit still.”
“I’m coming to you.”
“Tom it’s nearly midnight, I was supposed to be kicked out at 10. Just come back in the morning, they won’t let you in I’m pretty certain.”
“What if she wakes up!”
“Then they’ll call you! She’s getting better Tom you should be try and relax for like a second.”
“FUCK OFF HAZ! If she wakes up all alone and terrified then-“
“I’m not going to having a screaming match on the phone with you. I think we both know you wanting to come is more for you than for Y/n, because Y/n would want you to be looking after Aurora.”
Again guilt tripping using the newborn. Harsh but effective. Stopping Tom’s anger dead in it’s tracks.
“Look I can put the nurse on for her to tell you they won’t let you in and they’ll call if anything happens - but you already know that.”
“Yeh sorry fine … I know don’t bother.”
“Okay… I’m was gonna head back to my place and I know you’ve probably got your mum begging to fuss over Aurora but if-“
“Can you come?”
“Didn’t need to ask mate.”
And that’s how the night went. Until Harrison arrived at the Holland family home, Tom had spent the time pacing back and forth, blatantly ignoring the pleas of Sam just to sit down. Once he arrived though, going through all the updates in a lot more detail Tom seemed, for the first time, optimistic. By no means could you call him relaxed or happy - but compared to the rollercoaster that had been the last 24 hours, Harrison thought that was more than enough. Aurora had started fussing again at 1 but by the time it had turned into a full blown scream at Tom, Sam already had the bottle ready. It took a little bit of encouragement and promise that Tom would be able to feed her but actually, she instantly latched on, settled in her Dad’s hold while guzzling down the contents of the bottle.
After a bit of winding she ended up falling asleep on her dads chest, only when he felt himself start to flag did Tom place her back in the basket. Harrison and him ended up crashing on the sofas, Sam retiring to his own room. Phone still tightly clutched in Tom’s grip.
////////////////////
The first thing Y/n became properly aware of was this intense heaviness all over her body. It felt as though her limbs were all composed completely of lead, meaning as much as she was just craving rolling over, it was as though her own body was holding her down. A very alien feeling that unsettled her slightly, trying to shake of the misty feeling in her head to work it all out. It took a while to drag herself out of the depths of sleep, to the point where background noise slowly faded in - an alien beeping as well as distant shuffling making her heart thump with unease. Finally, perhaps most distressingly , her eyes felt glued shut. Not because they were heavy, in the way someone extremely sleep deprived cant keep their eyes open; rather stiff like they hadn’t been used in so long they’d rusted over or something.
The feeling  was quite horrific and isolating- as though she were locked into her body without an escape in sight. Whilst trying to calm her racing thoughts, Y/n chose to focus completely on the one thing she could do. She could listen. She listened to the beeps, focusing on the type of sound, the way it chimed so regularly; and it’s form. It was familiar, for that she was sure but for now at least she couldn’t place it.
It felt like an investigation, trying with all her might to try and workout what the fuck was going on. To put it mildly.
The most useful clue though, a breakthrough if you will, is when a voice sounded - clear and familiar.
“Excuse me nurse?” It was Nikki. For sure. It was a clue, but didnt seem to make a hell of a lot of sense. Y/n was so focused on why the hell Nikki was apparently watching her sleep unconscious, she completely missed the reference to the nurse. As in hospital. As in Y/n was in hospital. “… I’m just going to swap out for my sons friend.”
“Harrison?” That voice seemed new and unfamiliar.
“Yes, he won’t be a second I’m sure.”
What was Harrison doing here too?
It was all very confusing and hurt Y/n’s brain to try and unpick. Gradually then, everything sort of melted away, diving back into the darkness.
The next time Y/n woke up things were different. This time she woke up like she would at any time of day. She woke up and her eyes followed suit. Not particularly easily, since as soon as they cracked open she was almost blinded by brilliant white lights, it taking a build up of willpower before she tried it again - bracing for the pain.
By now she knew something was wrong. She remembered all these patchy and hazy periods. All full of confusion and disorientation but with different voices keeping her at least semi calm. Familiar voices, all too often laced with such emotion. Especially Tom’s. She couldn’t remember what he had said, nor had she probably been able to understand it at the time - what stuck was the tone. The sadness, the hopelessness , the emptiness.
It was scary. But it made her want to help. Made her want to open her eyes.
After wincing at the dazzling white surroundings, Y/n blinked her eyes quickly, in an attempt to get them to adjust quicker. She saw an unfamiliar ceiling, one that was tiled in a similar way to her old school canteen. There was a  weird pressure round her mouth, eyes quickly darting down to see edges of a clear mask pressed up against the bridge of her nose. That wasn’t it though, the further she looked the more her eyes panned down this pale blue blanket, following the outline of her legs to the bottom raised edge of the bed. The hospital bed.
Her hospital bed.
As much as she wanted to jump up in panic; physically right now that was an impossibility. So instead, Y/n focused on trying to gleam as much information from the situation. It took a hell of a lot of effort, her muscles literally stiff and ridgid with disuse but with a small groan her neck eventually agreed to follow orders. Just a small tilt to the left and suddenly Y/n felt so much more less panicked. Everything was that bit less scary because there was Tom.
Admittedly he didn’t look amazing, or even not bad. Tom was sat with his back pressed against the side of chair, so his body faced her. Had he not looked so ruined, Y/n would’ve laughed at the side of his face squashed into the back of the seat. But he did look horrific, for lack of a better word. His brown eyes were locked shut, but also looked puffy and red, while dark at the same time - as though he’d been attempting to gouge his own eyes out prior. He looked like he hadn’t slept in weeks, hence why he had appeared to have collapsed in the arm chair. At least though , he wasn’t in a hospital bed himself.
That was Y/n’s pleasure.
Her next job was to get her neck muscles to pull her head to the other side. It was a slow wincing gesture, yet she was so aware of another presence that needed to be addressed too. But actually it was 3 people.
Right at the back, a nurse sat on a little spinny chair, scribbling something down in a file of papers but to be quite honest that wasn’t were Y/n’s focus zeroed in on. Instead on Harrison who was sat in chair mirroring Tom, except instead of being passed out asleep he was cradling a baby. Her baby.
Y/n literally felt her heart in her throat at that point, eye widening almost comically. That was her baby - it must be? The monitors all started to loose their regularity as Y/n threw an uncoordinated limb to that side of the bed- already having realised her throat was way too scratchy to try to say anything comprehensible.
Immediately that got the attention of both the nurse, who immediately leapt up and called for support, as well as Harrison - who looked like he was seeing a ghost.
“Oh my-Y/n-?” Luckily he kept the baby safe in his arms rather than dropping her in shock, whilst Y/n kept her eyes locked onto the bundle in his arms. Nodding down, she tried to remove the mask (actually just very slightly knocking it to one side) and attempted to ask of the baby. Her throat, being inhumanly dry and scratchy, didn’t really work but Haz still got the message, scoffing in amazement.
“Aurora… here’s your mummy.” Harrisons voice was quiet and wavering as he delicately held Aurora against Y/n’s collar bone, the babies little tuft of har tickingling her chin. Now Y/n was crying with happiness, looking up at Haz’s icy blue eyes and questioning her name. Harrison confirmed with another disbelieving whisper, whilst the arm that wasn’t still holding Aurora clasped Y/n’s hand with a death grip. “Tom’s choice.”
The mention of him had both of them shift their gaze across the room to Tom’s chair. Even with all the developments, Tom still seemed completely unaware, fast asleep with the side of his face squished against the back of the chair making his lips slightly askew. Y/n were acutely aware of the small congregation of doctors that had accumulated in the corner of the bay but they seemed to be respectfully waiting before they would prod and poke. Haz went to call Tom’s name, before he could though, Y/n squeezed his arm and minutely shook her head. That wasn’t what the blue eyes boy had been expecting, causing Haz to unfold and bring Aurora back up to his chest as he quirked his eyebrows at her.
She didnt need to be filled in on the situation to know exactly what was happening. She had no idea why she was in the hospital bed; how long it had been since she’d given birth - but she knew all she needed to. From Harrisons unbelievably shocked face; and from the state of Tom - it hadn’t been good. Her fiancé looked almost ghostly, it seemed evident that he needed her. First then, she gestured to Haz for some water, which after a panicked look to the nurse; then from the nurse to various doctors; she was eventually given permission.
After somewhat alleviating the sandpaper feeling in her throat, Y/n then croakily asked for a bit of privacy. Right now the doctors all were gawking, Harrison assumed it to be because they’d all led him and Tom to believe she wouldn’t wake up for a while- and even then she was supposed to barely be awake, not able to talk and drink or anything of the sort. With an ecstatic nod Harrison, shuffled out - while doing so prompting the medical people to draw the curtains completely shut round the bay.
Already Y/n had tears welling up in her eyes, purely because she hated seeing him like this. He just looked so broken and shattered which honestly felt worlds worse than the labour she’d gone through. Her whole body still hurt, stiff and achy for reasons yet to be explained to Y/n. None of that mattered though, as she strained her arm out to the side in order to gently reach his knee that was folded up and sticking out awkwardly at an angle. After swallowing one again, Y/n squeezed round the joint and tried to shake it slightly. Instantly the man jumped up in his seat, heavy eyes blinking quickly and repeatedly as he tried to adjust to the room.
Being so sleep deprived and stressed out, Tom’s brain was not working normally, instead with a delayed haze as he apparently skipped over Y/n in the bed, rather surveying the the closed curtains and Harrison’s now empty chair. As he was lifting himself to sit more normally up, uncurling from the armchair, was when he noticed the hand on his knee. Breath caught in his chest, Tom instinctively bit his lip as his eyes gradually traced up the hand, to the forearm, up to the shoulder. It felt like a fever dream, as though all it would take is for him to move and she’d slip away again. But there were her green eyes, gleaming in a way that literally lifted a weight from his shoulders. Her smile was tired and a little confused, but so her - after spending days of just seeing all her features lax, Tom swore that it was the most beautiful thing in the world.
Only when Y/n finally croaked out a small ‘hi’ did Tom gain awareness of his body, or rather control of it, enough to leap up and leave over the bed - cradling her face in both his palms. Like a psycho he stared intently, swapping his focus from her left to her right eye like a madman.
“Your-I-I” He was trying to speak, trying to communicate all the thoughts and regrets of things he wished he’d said to her all at once. Weakly she reached up to fully remove the oxygen mask, dragging It down to below her chin, before squeezing his wrists in comfort. Only then did Tom notice the small puddle that had collected on her cheek, which made him realise he was absolutely bawling.
“You ‘kay?” Her voice was like sandpaper but everything about her was so completely Y/n and it was just giving Tom this unreal wave of euphoria. Physically incapable of replying, the brunette just scoffed, leaning over the bed even more so he could press his forehead on hers. He was laughing too, the fact she was asking him that seemed so preposterous, given all the tubes and wires attached to her at the moment. It took Y/n squeezing his wrist harder again to make him lean back a little, searching her eyes with his. She seemed so worried; seemed so full of concern - only then did Tom consider quite how much he’d ‘let himself go’ the past couple of days.
It had been two days since Aurora was born, only 48 hours. But the transformation was mad, none more so than mentally. 48 hours had quite literally changed everything for Tom; changed life forever and himself too. It was showing in his unshaven face, with unwashed  greasy hair, everything just looking ‘tired’.
“‘m just really glad your awake.” It was so honest and sincere it did have Y/n wondering what had happened and for how long. What had she put her fiancé through?
“How long?”
“The worst two and a half days of my life… I got you now though, yeh?” Tom whispered wetly, while stroking the side of her cheek - wiping both his and her tears away.
“Always.”
The doctors and nurses then came in, podding and poking Y/n like no tomorrow while Harrison and Tom stood back a little - excitedly grinning at each other and the sleepy girl Haz was cradling, before Tom stole her off him. There was a momentary sick-to-his-stomach feeling after some of the professionals had cleared, seeing her eyes shut again felt like everything was crashing around him. Thankfully though, one of doctors noticed the look of despair on his face, explaining to the two men that she was just asleep normally. That although sh’ed spent along time unconscious, waking from a medical coma is in itself exhausting.
After the initial excitement of Y/n waking the next couple of days were pretty samey. She’d been moved down to a normal ward, no longer needed all the incessant bleeping machines but still had to stay in hospital. Tom found it tricky too, he just always felt he needed to be by her side ‘just in case’. In fact, it had been a source of a bit of tension between him and his fiancé - she could see how exhausted he was from looking after Aurora, plus the stress of being in the hospital for hours a day with her. As Y/n got better and more switched on to the state of him, she realised it was inevitable he’d crash at some point.
But after a week and a half in hospital - comprising of a baby, emergency surgery, 3 days on intensive care, followed by 8 on the ward - Y/n was discharged. Nikki and Dom moved in to Y/n and Tom’s place, to provide care support both for Aurora; and Y/n for the rest of her recovery; and secretly Tom for everything he’d been through.
She was still order on bed rest due to her surgical scars, so Tom and Nikki helped to set her up in the master bedroom as soon as they got in. Of course, everyone was aware of Toms odd mood that day. Until then the only thing he wanted was to get his fiancé back at home with him but now she was over the threshold his excitement and joy appeared to have been zapped out of him. In fact, he’d barely uttered more than a couple sentences. So once Y/n was properly comfortable and Dom had brought Aurora and the cot into the room, Tom’s parents quickly made themselves scarce.
Tom hadn’t stopped, finding some reason to rummage around in the chest of drawers m while Y/n chewed at her bottom lip, watching him.
“Tom?” All she got in response was a light hum. “Tom please will you come and sit down for a minute?”
“I just need to-“
“Tom!” Her exclamation finally properly got Tom to listen, jumping round to face her. “Please... please will you just stop for a second?” Y/n’s eyes felt as though they were boring holes in his skull. Really, Tom knew he’d be forced into this at some point because he couldn’t avoid Y/n. She had some power of mind reading over him. So with a defeated nod and sagging shoulders Tom rounded the bed, weaving between his side and Auroras cot - where she was sleeping soundly.
A silence overcame the room as he heavily planted himself on his side of the bed, mirroring Y/n’s posture leant against the headboard.
“I think we need to have an honest conversation T.”
“If you want.” Nothing about his reply was the picture of enthusiasm, causing Y/n to hesitate a little.
“Look I am so beyond grateful for everything you’ve done while I was in hospital... and it doesn’t take a genius to tell you’ve worked yourself half to death-“
“I’m fine-“
“Don’t lie to me. I know you’re trying to protect me but please... will you just talk to me? Honestly?”
His reply this time wasn’t completely unforeseeable but it still shocked Y/n quite how quickly it happened, especially almost unprovoked. Because that’s all it took for Tom to break, for the past 2 weeks to get their vengance, for all the repressed emotion to escape.
He was crying- well more accurately sobbing- into his hands, his back quaking. Naturally Y/n reached out to pull him into her side, suppressing the groan of pain as she moved a little too much for her abdomen to handle. “I’m here T. I got you and I’m not going anywhere m‘kay?”
And that’s how they stayed, for at least 10 minutes, with Tom crying into her shoulder as Y/n rubbed up and down his back. Eventually though, everything did calm down and Tom repositioned himself to lean his head on her shoulder just facing forward and focusing on playing with her fingers, lacing them fingers with his.
In all the time since she’d woken up, Y/n was yet to broach the subject of their babies name yet. She sensed it was a sensitive topic to say the least, so had thought it best to wait till they were properly alone - not in a ward of 6 strangers where the only privacy came in flimsy blue curtains.
“So…. Aurora huh? Thought it was too airy-fairy, head-in-the-clouds for you?”  Smiling lightly, both of them were transported back to the pregnancy when they spent hours and hours bickering over names. Aurora had always been Y/n’s favourite but to Tom thought it was more a name for a hippy kid who went around clad in tie dye and bandanas.
“Still is a bit...but I needed a bit of a miracle and Iceland was in my head. Plus I sort of accidentally word vomited while shouting at Haz, for being nice to me.” Iceland as in when Tom had proposed under the aurora borealis in the freezing sky - when Y/n had agreed, promised even, to be with him forever.
“But you like it?”
“Of course... mother always knows best after all.”
“I think it suits her too. One of your best choices to date, listening to me.” Y/n mused, earning herself a very delicate but still playful elbow in the side before the room drifted back to a much more comfortable silence.
“We’re gonna get through this you know? Me, you and her, we’re together in this... I’m sorry I wasn’t in the beginning and I’m sorry I hurt you but now? I promise you got me and I’m not going anywhere…” Y/n needed to say it and needed Tom to properly listen. “ ...literally, I still cant walk properly.” Tom chuckled wetly at that, which made Y/n feel a lot better too.
To be completely honest, Tom was still hurt and he knew it’d take some mending to move past everything. By no means did he blame Y/n in anyway but just the fact he was left alone and abandoned - well, it was the worst time in his life. The way Y/n understood that and had apologised to him - if completely unnecessarily- meant everything. Meant she would help him to heal... whilst he helped her too.
“Can we just go to sleep? I need to wake up beside you in our bed not at tiny hospital one.” It was only 3 in the afternoon but because of Y/n’s medicine she was constantly drowsy and Tom? Tom was still in this permanent state of exhaustion. So it wasn’t so much of a weird request as it was on the face of it. With a nod, Y/n shuffled down on the bed a bit more resting her head against the top of Tom’s. It was exactly what they both needed, just a bit of peace with each other.
That lasted all of 5 minutes before Aurora woke and started to scream.
Life had most definitely changed. Especially for Tom. Because even though he was he was mentally and physically exhausted,  he only appreciated his daughters screams whole heartedly... because Y/n was there groaning with a tired smile too. They were in this together.

 I really hope the ending didnt disappoint too much, im aware its rushed as hell, but thank you for getting this far! And I hope maybe this series has done a teeny tiny bit to normalise not everything in pregnancy and child birth being perfect - that there is morbidity and mortality associated. Obviously this is all fictional (esp the amazingly quick recovery and lack of neurological/other impairments) and not medically accurate in the slightest !!

Chapter 24 - It Takes A Village
[ Felix ]
It’s close to December and my favorite holiday is coming up fast, the lights are already up all around town and in school we make paper snowmen and sing Christmas songs. It’s supposed to be the most cheerful time of the year, but people in my life are sad, which in turn also puts a damper on my Christmas spirit.
Dad is not doing very well, he’s working all the time and doesn’t say much, he just goes through the motions of our day. One day, he just forgets to pick me up from school because he has worked through the night and fell asleep at the dining room table during the day.
Principal Skinner can’t reach him or my mom, who is in Europe right now, so he calls my other emergency contact, my grandma. I don’t know what exactly he tells her, but she’s coming all the way from Connecticut and the Principal will drive me home to check on my dad.
I’m excited that grandma’s coming, she’s really awesome! She’s straightforward and very, very strict and doesn’t like to cuddle, much, but her no-nonsense way of running a household may be exactly what we need right now. And she also makes a mean lasagna!
When we get to the house, dad is beside himself, apologizing to us over and over again for falling asleep and he looks a little relieved when Principal Skinner tells him that grandma is coming over to help.
I launch myself at her - I’m permitted exactly two hugs, one hello and one goodbye - when she walks through the door and immediately try to get her to make lasagna for dinner. She sends me up to my room to play for a bit, while she talks to dad and cleans up the mess in the kitchen. Afterwards, she really makes lasagna, yes!

[ Teena ]
When I got the call from Principal Skinner, I was very worried about what I’d find when I got to the house, I’ve been called to pick up the pieces only once before.
It was after Diana left Fox and Felix and what I found then was a disoriented and confused three-year old who kept asking for his mom and a devastated dad and husband, unable to care for his child in his own heartbreak.
Thankfully, it’s not that bad this time, but I can tell that something has happened. Fox has been avoiding my calls for weeks now, only having Felix talk to me over the phone. I know that Sam knows something, but she wouldn’t tell me no matter how hard I pressed.
So the first thing I do when I get to the boys’s house is send Felix off to his room and sit down my son onto the couch to talk.
“Tell me what happened, Fox.”
And he goes on to me the whole story, from the first day of school where he met a woman that had upended both of their lives, to the birthday party - Sam has actually told me about that one, I thought it was a really sweet story - and the Halloween fair right up until the Basketball fiasco and the last time he saw her, where she asked him to give her some space until she has figured some things out.
“What do I do now mom? I hate myself for scaring her off like that and I can’t stop the tailspin of thinking I’m not good enough for her anyway, with that broken mess that’s our family…”
“I’ll tell you what to do now. You give her space like she asked you to and you get your act together in the meantime. Felix needs you to take care of him, it won’t do to wallow in self-pity. And ask yourself this: How can you expect someone to love you if you don’t love yourself? Go see Connie and fix your self-worth issues because you’re a good man and you absolutely deserve someone who makes you happy.”
“Thanks mom, for everything. I’ve already scheduled extra therapy lessons with Connie. You know what makes this whole thing even harder? I have to see her every damn day at school when I pick up Felix.”
“I’ll pick him up from now on. You focus on yourself, without distractions.” Maybe I’ll even get to meet her, I’m fairly curious about this Rainbow Woman myself.

[ Felix ]
At recess in school, everyone’s on their best behavior, holding their collective breaths because Miss Scully is in a bad mood today. Actually, she’s been irritable for the past two weeks, with a very short fuse and absolutely no tolerance for disobedience.
Since her classroom is right next to ours, we can sometimes hear her yell at her kids for something or other and even our class flinches when it happens.
Right now, she’s over at the playground, leaning into two boys who have gotten into a fist-fight over a game of tag and I’m silently glad I’m sitting over here with Miss Anderson. I look up at my teacher, curious.
“Miss Anderson, why is Miss Scully so angry all the time?”
“I can’t tell you, Felix, I’m sorry.”
“Because you don’t know, or because you don’t want me to know?” When she changes the subject pointedly, I know it’s the second one. ‘Ugh, why don’t adults tell children anything, it’s driving me crazy! Dad won’t tell me anything and now this.’
Grandma picks me up again today and on our way to the car, we run into Miss Scully. 'Uh oh, I hope she doesn’t go off on grandma, I don’t think that will go over very well.’ My grandma can be scary sometimes, too!
“Hey Miss Scully, this is my grandma, she’s staying with us for a while now! Grandma, this is Miss Scully, she’s the fourth-grade teacher.”
——————
[ Teena ]
I’m happy to see that my son has raised Felix to be a polite child when he introduces the tiny red-head I’ve heard so much about.
“Grandma’s not actually my name, Felix. I’m Teena Mulder, it’s nice to meet you Miss Scully!” Holding out my hand, I try to seize her up.
Her handshake is firm and her posture is ram-rod-straight, all professional, but her eyes betray her poised exterior, because I can see flashes of sadness when she looks down at Felix. I can only guess that she’s not having an easy time with everything, herself.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Mrs. Mulder. I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve got an appointment to get to. I’ll see you tomorrow, Felix. Goodbye, Mrs. Mulder.”
With that, she’s off to get her bike and Felix breathes a sigh of relief.
“Whew, thank God, she didn’t get mad at you like she got mad at the two boys at recess today.”
I’m a bit puzzled by his odd statement, but on the car ride, he tells me all about the incident in great detail. I get the feeling that these stories are a staple in the boys’s days and I can begin to understand why my son would rather not hear Felix go on and on about what she did and what she said right now.
—————
[ DS ]
My therapist has told me that it has to get worse before it gets better, but this is getting ridiculous. I can’t sleep more than a few hours at night, which leaves me irritable in the morning and with an incredibly short fuse at school, going off on my kids for the littlest infractions.
They’re so terrified and confused, they end up making even more mistakes, which in turn sets me off even more - it’s a vicious circle that leaves me frustrated with myself and more times that I’d like to admit to, I’ve lost it in the teacher’s bathroom.
Meeting Mrs. Mulder today was unexpected and I tried hard to keep it together for a few minutes, but I can’t stand looking at Felix’s innocent face for a longer period of time, so I bolted right after the introductions.
I actually did have an appointment, with my therapist, and today she suggested I write down my feelings in a journal to get them off my chest and reflect on them.
During the night, I wake after only a few hours of sleep spent tossing and turning. Unable to fall back asleep for yet another night, I drag myself our of bed and downstairs, turning the TV in the living room, hoping it’ll lull me back to sleep.
“10 things I hate about you” is on and by the time Julia Stiles recites her poem, I’m bawling into a pillow. I remember the homework I’ve been given, so I grab a piece of paper and a pen and begin writing.
“Miss Scully’s list of 10 things I hate about you”
The words of the title swim before my eyes as I scribble my feelings onto the patient paper. The poem I write is slightly different from the one in the movie, but writing it all out really does help.
I fold the paper up carefully and toss it in the trash before heading back up to bed.

30. Scared, potter ?
Prompt used- Grabbing onto their arm | FLUFF | Draco finally reveals how he fell in love with harry | can't believe I've already reached 30 days with these prompts.
Laughter cackled into the room with people draco had enormously grown to love. It's weird how fast time flies when you are surrounded by people who care about you regardless of how many shit days you may have and draco was a happy victim of it. All his life he had never cared for anyone else, treated them as if they were nothing untill he himself felt like one of those people, what it felt like to be nothing and he hated every second of it and when finally life gave him a second chance by a simple act of fate, he rose out the person who was completely opposite of who he used to be and he was proud of it and more proud were the people who once had hated him. It was a miracle how draco was sat amongst these people now, but he could not be more happier to reach where he is today and everyone he have right now. 5 years of learning, progress, trying to clear his name, he had finally became the person he wanted to be and love, it was just a small Miracle that happened by his side, so unpredictable but exactly what he needed and if there was one person who struck through it all was none other than, harry james Potter. His so called arch nemesis.
He met harry by a very simple mistake actually. One day he was serving coffee in a muggle coffee shop to pay his rent and the next day he knew he had almost been fired for spilling coffee over someone, and obviously that someone had to be harry. They got to talking about how different lives were, how difficult and yet they had the most complex similarities. It took harry exactly 9 months and 3 days during draco's final trials to get a job for him in the auror office, claiming if they didn't take him it would one of the most stupid choice they'd ever make because they'd lose a brilliant mind. Draco's first instincts were obviously disliking harry for doing something like that for him and maintained distance as much as he could but showed his gratitude in different ways like anonymously sending harry his favourite deserts every Friday and cup of coffee every morning. It wasn't until they both had been paired up for a mission related to a death Eater that they collided once again. According to the recruiters, it was important they had someone who was familiar with the death Eater ways, draco and a person they feared the most who vanquished the dark lord, harry. One scene to another, the tension building up one day led them into fighting and eventually resulted in them not talking until during the end of the mission when Draco got fatal injury, not because of the case but because of a muggle driver basically hitting draco. Eventually harry had to assign the mission to officials under him and draco being on bed rest, since it was a muggle injury and treating it the wizarding ways could've possibly been a hindrance in his 100 percent recovery.
And now this is where they are, sitting on top of the grimauld place, on its roof , lit up by almost 70 golden fairy lights, sheltered by a silver tent with a bunch of their friends and families assembled for the rehearsal dinner, or so the muggle called. It was just a last party from harry potter and draco malfoy.
Neville clinked his work lightly on his champagne glass raising it " Time for toast"
Draco cleared his throat grabbing attention from everyone across the table. Harry looked at him, bewildered since he definitely didn't knew Draco planned this.
" I'd like to take a few moments from all of you for this. I- I am blessed to have you all in my life and I met most of you when my life hit rock bottom and through it all, you guys have supported me unconditionally and I'm forever in debt for that"
They all raised their glasses in appreciation.
" and to you harry, tomorrow morning I will be pronouncing my vows and I know we've practically written them together, I can assure you no words are ever enough to what I feel for you. I've met you by a simple act of fate and it is my choice to choose my destiny to spend the rest of my life loving you just like you love me.
I met harry 6 years 3 months and exactly 25 days ago. I was merely counting the days of my life to make it through all of it and by far that day had been a huge blessing. A lot of you have asked me when did I realise I was in love with him and I've Always said that it was somewhere along the way but the truth is I have been saving this answer my whole life for this specific day. 3 years ago when I got hit by a car and had stitches up and down my body, 2 fractures and almost a broken nose, thank goodness for that though, I love my nose, harry being the absolute gentlemen he is, dropped the damn case to take care of my lousy ass. So this one day during my 1 month bed rest, harry had been late and I was absolutely glad he was because of ego issues, I heard my bell rang, I got up and took sometime to reach the door and by the time I had even checked who it was, the person had left, leaving a parcel in my letter box. Being me, I went downstairs to pick it up and just as I started to go back upstairs, a floor below mine I almost rolled down the stairs and guess who was the knight in shining armour, harry. He ranted the hell out of me for choosing to do that and simply grabbed my hand, put it around his neck and carried me back up. The entire day he kept bashing on about what would've happened if he wasn't there. That's when I fell In love. It wasn't magical or something as people describe it, I felt what I had been deprived of my whole life, care and love. The way he just went on and on about it, just showed me how much he cared and the same exact night he stayed over claiming he is never leaving my fucking ass alone, guess he took that too seriously by the way, I fell in love that night of him scolding me. And that's the answer I've saved up all these years. And I'm pretty sure harry is still never leaving my fucking ass alone if in future I get injured, just the consequences and situations would be far different " and draco raised his glass again.
" to harry and draco " Ron grinned, his arms wrapped around Blaise's waist.
" to harry and draco " everyone cheered
" to us " they silently whispered smiling at each other, with a look in their eyes, that was simply just their own, their love.
" I actually can't believe you took an entire minute to make this speech with basically no phrases such as electricity running through or how admirable harry looked. I means it's all sorta sparky " Ron joked. A few people around him laughed too including harry and draco.
As time went on, when everyone was almost done with dinner and simply hanging away slow dancing, chatting, making jokes, harry intertwined his fingers with those of draco's under the table and rested his head against draco's shoulder. Draco looked on his side to see his fiance finding his comfort in his neck. Smiling to himself, draco pressed a long kiss on top of Harry's head, bringing their hands to his lips and kissing over Harry's knuckles before resuming laughing at yet another one of Ron's jokes.
By midnight everyone had started to go downstairs in the house to crash over and a few of them leaving. Finishing up with the cleaning harry and draco too finally departed to their seperate bedrooms as per before marriage rituals. It was almost half an hour later when Draco heard a soft knock on his door. He opened the door cautiously to find harry standing there with a small smile.
" breaking the rules as usual " draco smirked as he turned around to let harry in behind him.
" well, that's just who I am. Besides your room have a nice balcony. Could use it " harry said as he shut the door softly and followed draco.
Draco finally turned smiling at his fiance, just staring at harry until he pulled them into the balcony, letting the moon wash over their bodies, making Harry's eyes sparkle more and draco's hair looking softer than usual.
" can you actually believe, we're getting married in less than 24 hours " draco said as he looked at the sky.
" it doesn't seem so different, does it ?" Harry asked as he stepped closer to draco and grabbing his hands to intertwine their fingers again.
" it doesn't " draco smiled as he kissed Harry's forehead. He too smiled at Draco and finally hugged draco, his arms hanging loosely around his waist , his head rested against draco's chest to hear the faint loveliest sound of his heartbeat. Draco put his chin on top of Harry's head, his arms too hanging loosely around Harry's back and just staying there like that.
" can I ask you something ?" Harry finally asked after moments of silence while watching the moon, different memories, different thoughts running in their own heads.
Draco hummed in response. Harry looked up at Draco, staring blankly as if he was trying to find something, but there was no freckle or a mole or anything left on draco's face yet for him to discover. He knew Draco better than he knew himself and it was just a small proud achievement.
" during that speech, you said something about saving your answer for this day, did you know we'd ever reach this far ?"
Draco pouted looking behind harry deciding on how to phrase it.
" I didn't. If this were to ever end, the secret would've died with me but I knew the only time I'd ever reveal it would the day before our marriage. And I did "
" so you Always wanted to get married ?"harry asked curiously in a Playful way.
" I think yeah. I never had anything close to having what we have, I'd had been a fool not to imagine whatever comes next " draco smiled at harry fondly, his hands tightening around his waist.
Harry looked at Draco amazed. Despite being together for so long, being with each other was Always a different adventure each day and this was their kind of adventure.
" when did you knew you loved me ?" Draco finally asked not looking away from harry.
" well- I think it was during the time you joined DMLE. Those deserts every Friday and the cup of coffee, they had the same handwriting on the Little notes you put into the desert box and on the coffee cup, I knew they were from you long before you told me, courtesy of stalking you all around 6th year "
" So you were obsessed with me " draco teased smirking.
" whatever helps you sleep at night " harry chuckled before he pressed his head against draco's chest again and stayed there in silence until harry had finally gone to his own bedroom, as silently as he had came.
The next day when harry and Draco finally stood against each other on the alter, after the vows, the ring ceremony, the speeches, the minister finally claimed
" I now pronounce you husband and husband, you may kiss each other "
Harry smirked at Draco holding his hands
" scared potter ?"
" you wish, Malfoy " draco smirked back.
And then they kissed, promising an eternity of love that even this life wasn't enough..
Requests open. This might be one of my favourite ones.

° pairing: wonwoo x reader ° genre: university!au, host club!au, fluff ° word count: ~1.7k ° warnings: none! ° a/n: this had no business being this long and idek if i like it lol but I want to specifically dedicate this piece to @wonwoosimp bc she’s literally the sweetest, best bean in the world [insert uwu meme here] thank you for gifting me my very first photocard, I literally cried opening it! I love you so much, I hope you enjoy!
welcome to the svt host club!
masterlist!
Tumblr media
you entered university with a certain goal, a purpose. eventually, you were going to be the pediatric surgeon that the 13 year old you ushered you to be.
…let's just hope the knowledge of your brain was enough to get you through the first four years of pre-med. with your 3.7 high school GPA, you were lucky to get into your first choice college, let alone your current major
from the start of the semester, you dedicated yourself to studying the anatomy and physiology of the body until you knew every nook and cranny there was to know. and the library was the perfect sanctuary to get your shit together
as much as you loved your roommates, their constant fights over closet space and boy toys gave you no peace of mind what-so-ever
bless the library for being opened 24/7. If your roommates found you sleeping on their only working desk, you would find yourself waking up to the sound of tripping freshmen trying to get to their first 8am class right in the middle of the hallway
but the lone table in the corner of the library just on the third floor did you good at staying focused. even provided some good naps in between every now and then
the day before your first anatomy test, you LOCKED yourself in the library. no one was going in OR OUT of the premise just to sit across from you on YOUR table until you fully memorized the different layers of epithelial tissue >:(
gosh, you even scattered all your notes across the table just so people got the memo that this seat was: [OFF LIMITS]
yes, off limits to everyone except a certain jeon wonwoo.
the way you met was abrupt to say the least
besides your table, you had a pretty good view of the entire campus — from the main health science building all the way to the student parking lot
and just below you, an astonishing sight of a mob of screaming girls chasing after a mouse guy in glasses. not to be inconsiderate and heartless, but unless you heard someone scream bloody murder, diving back into your flashcard you go
tissue after tissue, you start to get delusional because at this point, everything is starting to look the same
slumping down into your chair, you take a second to mentally recharge, drinking the water you’ve neglected for the past three hours
you time yourself for a five minute break, going through the notifications on your phone
before you could read your roommate’s ongoing ramble on the latest update of the “crazy good looking, god-like, elite host club that the university has to offer”
a ‘club’ that you didn’t even know anything about nor cared for
you hear a loud ‘thud’ coming from the bookcase in front of you
from the side the tall, lean guy with glasses that you saw earlier emerged with his hands gripping his tricep
you try not to draw too much attention to him. half the reason being you didn’t want to embarrass him by laughing at the fact he ran into a 10 feet tall bookcase
and you did not need this man distracting you. it’s your eight week streak being this productive, a new record for anything you’ve done in your entire life and your pride wouldn’t let you have it if you lost it just because you saw an attractive man on sight
you scribble down a decent guess to the tissue identification question that you’ve been stuck on for the past few minutes, not bothering to look up
“that’s actually dense connective tissue, not smooth”
jolting up from your seat, you look up realizing the guy 5 feet away is now right in front of your face looking down at all your papers
“you can tell because they’re striated”
you stare at him in disbelief wondering how he could have gotten so fast with just looking at it for a few seconds. eyeing him up and down, he definitely looked around the same age as you but he wasn’t someone you’ve seen around the science buildings. and you would know since you took the liberty of familiarizing almost everyone within the department
“do you mind if i sit here?” his hands already on the edge of the chair ready to pull it out from underneath him
“...yeah sure”
“oh i’m wonwoo by the way,” he says as you both exchange awkward stares and knowledgeable nods
okay well since he’s proven that he might be of help to you, you might as let him stay. from what you’ve gathered, he didn’t have any stuff on him aside from his phone that you watch him get out of his front pocket, getting ready to play pacman
forget how attractive he is, this guy has some brains.
for the rest of the day, as you guys sat across from each other, wonwoo would occasionally bounce back and forth between giving you study tips and playing whatever game he decides to play at that moment in time
he was surprisingly really good at this? he knew more things about the subject than your professors did, and that’s saying a lot. like you’ve been looking at cells for WEEKS and you were lucky to get at least half of them. which begs the question:
“how do you magically know all this?”
the blank expression on his face tells you he wasn’t expecting that question but he quickly shrugs it off. “i just know a few things from my parents that’s all”
you would have questioned him further but the time on your phone read “22:57” and you already broke your number rule about sleeping early before a big test
as you pack up all your stuff, wonwoo pushes his chair in, bidding you farewell
“good luck on your test tomorrow!”
you appreciate the gesture, mentally thanking him for his help and proceed to go back to your dorms, preparing yourself to tell your roommate all about the exciting? day you had
“YOU MORON. JEON WONWOO?”
laying flat on your back on your bed, you cover the bottom half of your face, quivering under your sheets as you stare at your roommate’s outrageous outburst
you explain what happened and who you met today at the library. when your roommate asked to describe him in more detail, all you said was that he was pretty smart for someone who wasn’t particularly in your major
your roommate lets out a loud scream into their pillow, gripping the bed sheets before giving you the earful of the century
“he’s just being modest. he’s a korean lit major but he’s one of the uni’s top students since both his parents are the head of the science department.
…AND he’s one of the most requested host club members. so you caught yourself one big fish today bud.”
top student? science department? HOST CLUB? none of that was processing in your brain. the one club that you wanted nothing to do with and you just happened to meet their top money maker
grand.
the thought didn’t keep you up at night only because you thought that today’s encounter was just coincidence and you probably would never have to see him again.
(sad though, your roommate was right. he is rather good looking.)
the time that it took for you to take your test the next day flew by so fast that you questioned if it even happened. the first step you took out the classroom, you start to second guess all your answers, regretting that you didn’t check a third or even fourth time before submitting
your train of thought halts when you see jeon wonwoo standing in the empty hallway
“i’m sure you aced it”
and just like in a netflix original romance movie, he reveals a bouquet of pink begonias from behind his back while shyly adjusting his glasses
“these are for you. to congratulate you”
weird way to phrase it but you were still gonna take the flowers. “host club tendencies?”
“so you found out?”
from a distance, you can hear the rushing footsteps from downstairs followed by a sense of purpose. “i think i was bound to” :/
you didn’t know how you felt about the current situation. you had no idea what host club was until you got here and you still don’t know what they even do. for all you knew, this could just be a gesture to get them more clients
but if his actions were genuine… you wouldn’t mind seeing him again
“i have to start learning muscles for our next exam. heard it was one of the hardest ones. i’m not sure if you have more studying tricks up your sleeve?”
“i might.” a cocking little grin now appearing on his face
“good. same place at the library tomorrow then. and this time? try not to bring your dedicated fans wherever you go”
so these study sessions continued. you guys occasionally had to change spots - from cafe to an empty bio lab - if the mob ever saw a single hair follicle that might be his
but each time, wonwoo brought something more just himself. one day it would be coffee, others days it would be food. things to keep you motivated.
for a korean lit major, he was taking a lot of time out of his day to help you, being attentive to all the strategies that help you study and such
possibly making your assumption from months back, true.
by the time finals rolled around, aside from the spursts of review here and there, study sessions became more casual. you didn’t feel the need to overwork our brain since you already knew all the information (something you actually learned from wonwoo himself)
possibly the last meeting you’d have with him was similar to your first: just you two together but him playing on his phone. and yet before the night ended
“i have a proposal.”
“i’m not giving you money for your dumb club.” bold of him to assume you would-
“no but i really appreciate the thought :)
why don’t we turn these study sessions into… study dates instead?”
:0
your assumption after 6 months later: finally confirmed
“but that’s only IF you ace your finals.”
well let’s just say at the very end, you had a successful first semester and are now one step closer towards being the surgeon of your dreams.
plus, you even landed yourself a pretty cool boyfriend in the process
let’s hope his parents put in a good word for you when you apply to med school!

CHAPTER 10:
"You look nice, Deku" Uraraka smiled, her hands held behind her back as she rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet in a childish manner, looking at her green haired friend. "Is there anyone in particular you're trying to impress?" she gave him a knowing look that Izuku stuttered and blushed to.
"No! O-of course not" he immediately denied and averted his eyes when that only seemed to make Uraraka's smirk widen. Izuku knew he was a terrible liar and Uraraka could be very scary sometimes. "But um, hypothetically speaking.. if I /were/ trying to impress someone- which I'm not- but hypothetically speaking do you think they'll.. you know. Be impressed? Hypothetically."
Uraraka looked her friend up and down. Izuku's fashion sense has definitely improved since the beginning of their first year. Both Tsuyu and herself had made sure to teach Deku and Todoroki a thing or two about dressing themselves since they were completely clueless sometimes. Midoriya was wearing brown, cuffed corduroy pants with a forest green oversized short sleeve button up, a lighter green long sleeve underneath that to create layers. The red shoes were never going away though and Uraraka gave up in trying to get him to wear another pair of shoes. He looked good and Uraraka noticed how his hair was a bit neater too so he obviously put a bit of extra effort into trying to style his curls. In fact, looking around the common room it seemed that Deku wasn't the only one who put a little extra effort into their appearance today. Half the boys there looked like they were going off to a party instead of a casual class outing. Even Iida looked like he was trying out a new hairstyle. No glasses either.
"Umm, Uraraka-san?" Izuku waved his hand in front of the girl's face to get her attention. She zoned out for a bit there and she blinked, turning to face him again.
"Oh, right! Well, /hypothetically speaking/ right?" she smiled and he nodded, "I think they'll be very impressed." Deku beamed and her eyes shifted to Todoroki who was just arriving downstairs. "Oh, look! There's Todoroki-kun. Let's go talk" she grabbed Deku's hand in hers and took him with her. He looked very good! Todoroki's aesthetic was more of a simplistic/classy style with neutral colors. This time he decided to switch it up and was wearing a white t-shirt with an unbuttoned, loose fitting pale blue and white striped dress shirt over that. He had black jeans and white sneakers too. He looked very good. "Oooo~ is there anyone /you're/ trying to impress, Todoroki-kun?" Ochako teased.
"Yes."
Ochako didn't expect such a direct answer but giggled anyway at her blunt friend. Deku on the other hand didn't find it as funny.
"Is Bakugou here yet?" Shoto changed the subject and looked around the common room but didn't spot the explosion quirk user anywhere. He felt a little disappointed.
"No, Kacchan isn't here. Neither is Kirishima-kun" Izuku really tried to keep the bitterness out of his tone. He knew that they were best friends but did they really have to be glued at the hip 24/7? Deku doesn't like the way he starts to feel when he thinks of those two together but he can't help it.
"Oh" Shoto mumbled. There was an awkward silence where no one said anything for a few seconds until Uraraka couldn't stand it and broke it.
"So how are you feeling, Todoroki-kun? Are you still tired or are you feeling a bit better from earlier?" Ochako questioned. That got Izuku's attention and he turned to Todoroki with a curious expression. Was he sick? Todoroki didn't mention anything to him today. He wondered why he didn't tell him.
"I feel better, thank you. I'm excited to be going out with my friends" he smiled briefly and Izuku returned it. After that things started to go back to normal as they talked about what stores they wanted to go to and if they had anything in particular they wanted to buy. The common room was filled with brief conversation before the 'ding' of the elevator was heard and everyone turned to look at a nervous Kirishima standing on the far opposite side of a bored looking Bakugou. Izuku felt a knot form in his throat and Todoroki felt his heart skip a beat, their faces heating up a little at what girl Kacchan was wearing. He looked good. Hell, even if he was in his normal body and wore that he'd look good.
"You're here!" Mina rushed forward to hug her two friends in a crushing hug which Kirishima gladly returned. The girls may or may not be feeling smug at how everyone reacted to seeing Bakugou. Yeah, they did that.
"I said I would go with you extras, didn't I? Now let go, pinky" Bakugou groaned. She smiled wide before stepping back.
"This'll be so much fun!" Mina jumped up and down.
"Everyone please form a single file line for attendance! As class president I must make sure everyone is accounted for before we vacate school grounds" Iida made sure to grab everyone's attention by speaking loud and clear as well as waving his arms about. Where he pulled the clipboard from no one knows but Iida started to check off names in the class roster to submit to Aizawa sensei once they come back in a few hours. "Alright. Everyone is here. We can go now" he nodded in confirmation.
The class had to take the bus to go to the mall so Iida stayed by the door until everyone was inside before going in himself. Bakugou was planning to sit with Kirishima but the redhead as soon as he was in the bus went and sat beside Sero instead. Katsuki was confused since they always sit together and even Sero was looking between the pair in confusion. "You don't mind, right Bakubro?" Kirishima awkwardly scratched the back of his neck. Bakugou just shrugged and moved on to find an empty seat to which Kirishima let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.
"What was that?" Sero questioned once Bakugou was out of earshot.
"What was what?" Kirishima turned to him.
"That. You always sit with Bakugou so why all of a sudden did you decide to sit next to me? I don't mind but I was a little caught off guard, man. You know, you've been acting weird ever since the night we played games in my room. Is everything cool?" Sero had an idea of what was happening but he wanted to hear it from Kiri himself.
"Yeah, everything's good. I just need to sort some things out for myself first" he explained and Sero nodded, leaving it at that. Kirishima appreciated that about Sero. He knew if it was Mina or Kaminari they wouldn't stop pestering him about it. Kirishima just wanted some time to hopefully figure out why he was all of a sudden feeling so weird around Katsuki.
On the other end of the bus, towards the back, Bakugou found an empty seat. Everyone else seemed to be already sitting with someone else but he didn't really mind it. Once seated, Bakugou put his elbow up on the edge of the window and looked outside. He felt someone slightly tap his shoulder though and looked up to a shy Koda. 'May I sit here?' he signed and Bakugou raised an eyebrow. He rolled his eyes and signed back 'go for it' and Koda smiled a little, quickly sitting down beside Bakugou. Aizawa did mention that because of his quirk, he may experience hearing loss in the future if he didn't take the proper precautions so Bakugou has been taking JSL classes from Koda since the beginning of their second year and developed a somewhat mutual understanding with the guy. He really wasn't all that bad, just a little quiet. And while they weren't friends friends, Bakugou knew that if he ever needed a quiet place to study or just hang out for a bit without talking, he could go to Koda's room. The same went for Bakugou. If Koda ever wanted to spar or wanted pointers to help in improving his fighting skills, Bakugou is available.
Now that everyone had a seat, the bus began to move. The ride was going to take approximately fifteen to twenty minutes so he just wanted to use the break to relax. Bakugou could tell Koda wanted to say something based on the way he would look at him every few minutes but then look away though. "What is it?" he finally asked a little less than halfway into the trip and Koda shook his head. "I know you want to say something, now what is it?"
Koda looked hesitant at first but then signed 'how are you feeling?' with a sincere look. Maybe if it was someone else Bakugou would have told them off for getting into his business but Koda was someone who earned his respect and admiration throughout their time together in UA and who he saw as an equal.
"Why do you ask?" he asked instead, a bit defensive, and Koda responded by signing 'this is a big change and I was just wondering how you were doing.' Bakugou shrugged. "It isn't something I can't handle. Besides, today is the last day of the quirk so I should be back to normal by tomorrow morning" Bakugou mumbled, adding in a "thanks" as an afterthought. Honestly speaking, Koda has been the only one who's asked him how he felt about this whole quirk situation. The rest of his classmates all just seemed to be having fun with it and while he didn't mind, it was nice to be asked.
'You're always welcome to come hang out with me and my bunny if you ever need quiet time,' Koda offered. 'He told me he misses the angry blonde boy with the warm hands" he joked. Bakugou smirked a little with a "tch, sure whatever. Tell 'im I miss the furball too" leaving his lips. After that Bakugou and Koda fell into a comfortable silence where Bakugou closed his eyes to rest for the few minutes they had left on the bus ride.
Everyone else in class 3-A never thought they'd see the day where they all wished they were in Koda's place. The anivoice boy was sitting perfectly still so as to not wake the pretty blonde that had leaned his head on the other's shoulder sometime along the trip and was now sleeping peacefully on him.

The Gilded Cage - Chapter 9
hehe i’m very excited :) also thank you pami for doing write time with me that was super poggers and awesome you’re so cool
Written in collaboration with @pamiiap :D Thank you @tea-with-veth for beta reading, and editing :D
Master Post
First -  Previous - Next
~~~
Three days. That’s how long Eret stayed with the computer. Three days of nothing but staring at the same screen, desperately trying to test out different commands to see what would work. Three days of sitting in a dark, cold room, with nothing to keep him warm.
Over the past three days, Eret had barely slept.
He’d lingered there for hours, the clicking of the keyboard and flashing of the screen filling his senses. All he could think about was this could be his way home. A way to end this and leave it all behind. Maybe he could wake up and it would all be a dream.
A dream.
Dream.
Dream was his friend. Dream was…
Dream was.
After hours of clawing at the keys for an escape, he hesitated for a moment. He curled his hands into fists and relaxed them, trying to release the tension he had.
Instead of typing commands, he typed:
Why?
If anyone is reading, send me something
A sign, preferably
Tell me I’m not alone
Give me something
Anything
The shaking in his hands slowed, the edges of his vision melted away. He watched as his world faded into darkness.
~~~
“Hey, chat!” He says, on impulse. “How’s it been? Feels like forever.”
“Sorry for the long hiatus, life’s been throwing curveballs at me.” He continues.
Don’t worry!
You’re fine!
Its okay :D
“I hope you guys have been alright. Don’t know what we’ll be doing with this stream so I’m going to start a little poll in the chat here…”
Time melts away as he talks to his stream, he knows that. That’s how streams usually go. It happens in a blur, the eyes of thousands of people aren’t on him anymore. The stream has ended.
He falls into nothingness.

Journal Entry #1
I found the Console, still can’t get back home yet though. I’m still unsure on how it works, but I know, I know, that I can get home. It’s kind of like a command block, you can input code but it needs some sort of activation key to trigger it. Haven’t found that yet.
I’ll update this as I find more information.
Journal Entry #2
Text commands seem to work, more extreme commands need the trigger. I really should make some sort of command list, that might help.
Journal Entry #3
I’ve made a list on a separate paper. I’m running out of space.
Journal Entry #6
What could the trigger be? I need to find it.
Journal Entry #8
I haven’t slept in three days. I need to head back.
Journal Entry #9
Nothing new as of the moment. I’m going to start working on a trigger to activate this thing.
Journal Entry #10
I wonder if I could undo whatever Dream did to everyone’s memories? I wonder if I could make it so that they didn’t hate me anymore.
Journal Entry #13
I can’t sleep.
Journal Entry #15
Going home back again. Bad’ll still have muffins, I hope. (If George didn’t eat them already)
Journal Entry #16
George ate my muffins. Prick >:(
Journal Entry #17
Packing for another trip to the Console today. Bad made extra muffins to compensate for the atrocity that happened yesterday. (Sidenote: George had his muffin privileges removed for a day)
Journal Entry #20
Bad’s worried. I wouldn’t blame him. I don’t think I can blame myself either. I have to get home.
Journal Entry #24
I’m here. Glad no-one’s tampered with my list. I’ve been gathering some redstone supplies to try and make a prototype trigger.
Journal Entry #27
I’ve tried several combinations of levers and buttons and redstone but nothing seems to activate it. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
Journal Entry #28
Nothing’s working.
Journal Entry #30
Can’t sleep again.
Journal Entry #32
I don’t think I’ve eaten.
Journal Entry #33
I have to go ho back. I need to be more careful, George and Bad are getting worried. I don’t want them to be worried about me. They don’t even know me.
Journal Entry #34
Do I even know them?
Journal Entry #37
I won’t go to the Console for a couple of days. That might calm them down.
The weather’s getting warmer actually. I think spring might be almost here. Not sure if seasons might not work the same.
Journal Entry #38
George says it’s already mid-spring. I didn’t realize I’d been here for so long
Journal Entry #???
I want to go home.
~~~
Eret closed the small book with a sigh. Ever since he had found the console several months ago, he had tried to do his best to keep a record of what he found.
However, the journal had quickly turned into a place for him to pour his emotions, rather than document his findings. All of his actual records were with the console itself, where he could better keep track of them.
He placed the small book in his bag, before swinging it over his shoulders. He needed to go back. Even if everything about the small, dark room made him want to scream, it was his only hope. His only way of potentially returning home.
Gently, he pushed back the small curtain that separated his room from the rest of the community house. Even after several months of staying here, he still hadn’t bothered to make an actual room. After all, it wasn’t like he had a ton of free time.
Almost all of his time was spent either at the console, or digging out tunnels underneath L’manberg. God, he hated those tunnels.
As he gently stepped out into the main room, he quickly glanced around, checking to see if the coast was clear.
It wasn’t as if he didn’t trust Bad or George, in fact it was quite the opposite. He just… He hated making them worry. He knew how much his frequent visits bothered both of them, and so lately he had begun trying to quietly slip away.
He was almost at the front door of the community house, when a voice called out to him.
“Eret?”
He froze.
Shit.
Maybe, if he kept walking, whoever it was would just… let him go. Maybe he could pretend like he didn’t hear them, and he could just move on with his day. He closed his eyes tightly, trying to figure out the best course of action.
“Eret? Are you alright?”
Fuck.
He slowly turned around, trying his best not to grimace when he saw Bad standing at one of the other doors.
“Hey…” The word sounded forced, even to him. “Uh, I was just… um…”
Bad’s face fell ever so slightly as he noticed the small bag slung across Eret’s back.
“Are you going to the forest again?” Eret tried his best to ignore the way that Bad’s voice was tinged with a slight disappointment. It would only make him feel guilty.
“Uh, yeah…”
“Were you just going to leave again? Without telling anyone?” Although there was no accusation in his tone, the words still cut deep, acting as a harsh reminder of his own actions.
He shifted his weight from foot to foot, trying to dispel some of the nervous energy that was swirling around him. “I didn’t want to worry you guys anymore… I left a note upstairs though, I swear!”
That was a lie. There was no note, there never was a note. But if claiming that there was helped to ease Bad’s worries, then that was what he was going to do.
He could tell that Bad didn’t believe him. Although his friend would never actually call him out on it, he could still tell from the way his shoulders slumped ever so slightly, or the small frown that crossed his face.
“Ok… Well, before you head out again, me and George were hoping to give you something,” Bad’s voice was filled with a forced cheerfulness, complete with a matching smile.
Eret’s head shot up in disbelief. What on earth did they possibly have to give him? They had already done so much to help him, what more could there possibly be?
Tendrils of guilt began to worm their way through Eret’s mind, reminding him of all the ways his friends had helped him over the past months, and all the ways he had failed to return their kindness. How was he supposed to accept yet another gift?
“I really don’t need anything, you guys have already done enough for me,” he protested, knowing full well that nothing he could say would actually dissuade Bad.
“Nonsense, this is something that we wanted to do for you. Hold on, I’ll go get George. Don’t go anywhere!” he cried out, already rushing out of the building.
Eret let out a long sigh at the final sentence. Of course Bad didn’t trust him to not run off.
Why would he?
~~~
Despite every instinct in his body that was telling him to run, Eret found himself rooted to the spot where he stood. When Bad returned nearly 10 minutes later with George behind him, he had hardly moved.
“So… What exactly is going on?” Even to his own ears, his voice sounded forced and strained.
“Well, George and I were talking,” Bad started, already rummaging through one of the many chests that lined the walls, “and we realized that you’re going to be king soon, right?”
Eret couldn’t help but flinch at the reminder. To him, the title of king was nothing more than a reminder of what he had lost. A reminder of the pain he had caused for his friends. A reminder of the pain that he would continue to cause.
But still, he couldn’t let his own reluctance show. If he remembered correctly, becoming king had meant a lot to his alter-ego. Hell, he had gone so far as to betray his friends, just so that he could secure the crown.
And so he forced a smile onto his face, doing his best to swallow the bitter taste in his mouth. “I mean, yeah. I’m pretty sure it’s not going to happen for a while, but… yeah that was the idea. Why?”
Bad’s grin grew wider, his face alight with barely contained excitement as he continued searching through different chests. Even George, who rarely showed any outward excitement around Eret, had a small smile on his face.
“You’ll see, it’s a surprise. I just gotta find it first”
“I uh, I think it's hanging up downstairs,” George interjected, already moving towards the stairs, “I can go grab it, hold on.”
He was gone only for a few moments before he emerged at the top of the staircase, holding something behind his back, hidden from Eret’s line of sight. “Do you wanna explain what it is?” He asked, his question clearly directed at Bad.
Bad nodded, then turned back to Eret, pride showing in his eyes. “Well, we wanted to get you something nice for your coronation. I know it probably isn’t going to be for a while, but you’ve seemed really stressed lately, and we wanted to do something nice for you!”
George grinned, revealing a long, extravagant coat from behind his back. “Sapnap and Punz helped out with collecting dyes as well.”
The silk coat was a deep shade of crimson, embellished with gold accents. It felt nice to touch but it was also durable. The inside of the coat was lined with an insulating fur that pokes over the collar, making the inside of it warm.
He glanced up at both George and Bad, his brow furrowed in slight confusion. “Wait… Wait is this… What?”
“It’s a coat! I know it gets cold at night so we made you this. Not to mention, a king should look the part.”
Tears started to form in his eyes, threatening to spill over as he gently took the coat. “Thank you” He forced out, unsure of what else he was supposed to say.
“Go on then,” George said. “Put it on!”
Slowly, he took off the tattered L’manburg uniform, bloodied and stained with dirt, and put on the new coat. It felt… different. But, a good different.
“Thank you.”
~~~
Several days had passed since Eret had last left the community house. Several days since George and Bad had gifted him the red coat.
George could tell that their friend's absence was starting to chip away at Bad, his worry festering underneath his skin. By the third day, George had had enough.
He quickly packed two bags, complete with everything that they would need for a long journey. He might not have known where exactly their friend had gone, but they knew the general direction. That would have to be enough.
“Hey Bad!” He called out, his friend quickly coming down the stairs of the community house.
“Whats up?”
“Come on, we’re gonna go look for him.”
~~~
Neither of them had any idea what they were looking for, all they knew was that it was somewhere in the eastern dark oak forest. They had spent nearly a week searching every nook and cranny of the woods, never finding any trace of their friend.
That is, until they stumbled across a pathway. The dirt had been worn down, leaving a trail that they could follow.
The path had led to a small clearing, with a dark building in the center.
Both George and Bad had recognized the strange material almost instantly. Bedrock. Eret had somehow found a building made of bedrock.
What the hell.
The area surrounding the building was devoid of any human life, the only exception being a lone horse that was sleeping in the warm sun.
“Well, I think we found him…” Bad’s voice was filled with concern.
As they stepped into the strange building, they saw the room completely empty except for a machine in the middle. And unconscious at the desk, was…
“Eret?!”

Armin was discharged from the hospital only a day after the accident. The doctor said there was nothing extraordinary to worry about. But of course, even with this information, Eren still made a fuss. That much was clear when he walked through the door with Armin's arm slung over his shoulder.
"I didn't break my leg, Eren. I don't need to use you as a crutch," Armin grumbled as the two walked into the kitchen from the garage. He reached back to shut the door with his free hand.
Eren rolled his eyes. "Well, excuse me for supporting you in these trying times."
"I don't need your support," they scoffed. He unwrapped his arm and made his way across the room.
Eren gave him the finger, rather aggressively. The gesture wasn't reciprocated since the blond already disappeared into the hallway.
Sucking on a freeze pop, you leaned back against the cool countertop. "Welcome home, lovely. Have fun?"
Eren sighed loudly as he walked toward the freezer and got a popsicle for himself. He grabbed a pair of scissors and cut the top of the wrapper off into the trash.
He said sarcastically, "Oh, absolutely I did." He paused and shook his head disapprovingly. "He's a lot bitchier when it's us two. How's it been here?"
You shrugged. "So, so. Pretty quiet."
He nodded and pushed up the pineapple-flavored ice. "Thought so. Jean's gone today, obviously. Is Mikasa here?"
You huffed softly at the mention of her. "I haven't seen her since breakfast. She's been upstairs all day."
He frowned. "Oh, I see. Armin told me about the kiss, by the way. At first, I was gonna make fun of you for passing out but now that just seems cruel."
"You think?" You laughed lightly and rested both arms on the counter.
The sound that followed from him was more of an exhale than a laugh. "Listen, Y/n, even if she's avoiding you right now, I know she'll come around. Just wait and see."
"You're right," you mumbled, sticking the freeze pop in your mouth again. Armin basically said the same thing. Eren sent you a quick smile and patted your shoulder before leaving through the hallway.
You swallowed the remaining ice and threw away the wrapper. Noticing the bin was full, you took the trash to the bigger bin outside. Maybe doing some chores would distract you from Mikasa for a while.
Plus, today was the only day that allowed you to do so. Practices for the band's upcoming performance were every day until the date of it. You'd be rehearsing 24/7 since it was scheduled on such short notice.
It was going to be at a middle school some of your friends went to. The DJ they booked before flaked and your manager was kind enough to offer your talents.
Jean was meeting with Hannes and the school administrators to work out some extra kinks before the practices began.
The only day there wasn't a rehearsal was on Eren's birthday. You all decided it'd be best to take the day off to celebrate and set up for the party that would be happening later in the night.
The day passed easily as you got caught up on chores that weren't done over the past few days. The house was messier than you liked it although it hadn't been long at all since the previous clean-through. However, it had been a hectic week.
Speaking of hectic, when Zeke was there, he sure made himself at home. That much was clear when you made it to the living room portion of the basement.
Eren probably couldn't find time to clean up yet. Either that or he was just lazy because at that moment he was more focused on a pinball machine than the state of his living space.
His brother's suitcases were lying open by the couch. To be honest, you didn't love the idea of a criminal's possessions lying around your home. So, you decided that throwing them in a storage closet was the best option.
When you finished tidying up, you started a game on the pinball machine next to Eren's.
His birthday was in three days. The house looked a lot better than it did when you started, which was perfect for throwing a party. You could only hope it would stay that way.
After a few hours of playing games with him, Jean came down the stairs to let you know he was back from the school. He left when he saw neither of you were interested in what he had to say.
Once it got dark outside, you left Eren to his own devices and went to your own room to chill out some more.
Unfortunately, when you flopped down on your bed, Mikasa started to consume your thoughts again. In an effort to fight them, you turned on a show to distract yourself.
For the slow hours you spent staring at the screen, you couldn't focus, not once. No matter how hard you trained your eyes on the screen, you still thought about her.
Sighing, you got out of bed and walked to your bedroom door. You were careful of the creaking hinges, it was around midnight. Everyone would either be asleep or close to sleeping.
Except for Armin. You had no idea what he did at night but you knew better than to ask. However, he was probably pretty tired from the time spent at the hospital. So, there was a solid chance he actually was asleep.
You crept outside, checking that the front door didn't make too much noise. Your car was parked in the driveway since there was never room in the garage. The gravel underneath your feet made noise as you walked toward it. You pushed yourself onto the hood and leaned back against the windshield.
Drawing in a long breath, you stared up at the sky. You needed to calm down and clear your mind. This would help, as it usually did.
Even if it was a little chilly, it was warm for a night in March, especially this late.
The stress that bubbled inside you simmered down the longer you watched the thin clouds dim the stars.
Any negative thoughts you had about the situation with Mikasa or the previous days seemed to disappear the longer your focus was on the sky.
Gravel crunched and you snapped your gaze toward the noise. Sitting up, you were surprised by what you saw.
Mikasa froze when she realized she'd been caught. She held a white blanket in her arms and still had one foot on the porch steps.
"Hi," she greeted quietly.
"Hey." Your breaths were a tad ragged from the initial scare.
She came closer to the car. "What are you doing out here so late?"
"I could ask you the same thing." You took the blanket from her arms and she pushed herself up to sit beside you.
"The door to your room was open when I came downstairs for a drink. I thought you'd be out here."
"Oh." She knew you better than you thought.
She spread the blanket over both of your laps and leaned down on the hood of the car.
She looked at the sky but your eyes were still on her. "Why did you come out here?"
After a moment of silence, her gaze finally shifted to you. "I wanted to apologize. Ignoring you was immature. Plus, I remember how you used to come out here when you were upset. Above all else, I wanted to make sure you were alright." A blush coated her cheeks when she finished talking.
You took note of that and couldn't help but blush yourself. "I'm okay. I understand why you'd ignore me, though. If you didn't want it, that was probably your only option since we have to see each other so much."
Her brows furrowed and she sat up again. "What? Y/n, did you think I didn't want to kiss you?"
You blinked stupidly. "Well, yeah."
She laughed. "You can be so ridiculous sometimes. I've always wanted to kiss you like that. I'm just not great at expressing it."
Even more heat rushed to your face. You gawked at her and she looked down at her feet. Many things were running wild in your head. For some reason, though, there was one thing that was so prominent in your mind once you remembered it.
Out of all the questions you could have asked, this one came out rather bluntly. "What did you mean in your letter? What should I know?"
Her eyes widened, she didn't expect you to ask about that yet, and quite frankly, neither did you. Nonetheless, she answered anyway. "If only you knew. That's what I wrote. That's easy to answer now. If only you knew how long I've loved you."
She turned her face and made direct eye contact with you. She seemed to know the next question on your mind. "You never knew it but I've been in love with you since high school."
That can't be right. This is a dream. You're dreaming, Y/n. What the actual fuck?
"Are you sure? Then why did you ask Jean out when we were seniors? Why did you break it off with me mere weeks before?" Your mind was racing and it translated into sentences quickly spilling from your lips.
She still looked straight at you. Her facade of confidence was making you nervous. "I'm sure. Back then, I was so afraid of what I felt for you. Pretending the feelings weren't real and projecting them onto Jean seemed like my easiest option. For years I convinced myself I loved him. But it was never him. It was always you. I felt so awful when I realized what I was doing."
And just like that, the facade fell. Her words were no longer held confidence. She was afraid of how you'd react. She had little idea that you were ready to be just as vulnerable as her.
"When did you realize?"
Looking up at the dark sky, she pushed a stray tuft of hair away from her face. She continued, sighing softly before she spoke, "When I saw him that night with Marco, I was relieved that I didn't have to be with him anymore. When I tried to figure out why that was, I could only think about you. Every feeling that scared me before came back. I got so scared that I left. But, even then, they never went away."
You were having some trouble believing that this was actually happening. Mikasa loved you back this entire time. If she hadn't kissed you before, you would've thought this was only possible in your dreams.
However, things were actually starting to make sense. That whole time it was your fault. Every night of those two years you spent wondering about what you could have done to make her stay. It turns out you did enough. You were the reason she left.
But maybe you were the reason she came back as well. You could recall something Jean had told you a day before she came home.
"Why did you come back? You needed to do something?"
She looked back at you again. "I've just done it," she said.
Before you could process her words, she was leaning closer to you. Her lips were so close to brushing yours but she paused before they could fully touch. "Can I?" she whispered.
"You don't even have to ask."
When she kissed you, you felt everything. Her feelings, your feelings. The world was minuscule compared to you two. Anything else meant nothing at that moment.
It was the first time in a long time that you felt fully complete. You were a puzzle and she was the missing piece. It was like before, only this time, you knew for sure what you wanted.
Pulling away, you managed an, "I love you too, Mikasa."
There were no other words that would feel so good to finally say out loud.
Everything was clear. You understood.
Now more than ever, you wanted to be with her.

Rhys and Feyre bringing home their baby for the first time! Amren and Varian sharing a soft moment (if you could fit that in somehow please?)
More Fluffy Prompt-a-thon goodness. End is a bit lame but... *shrugs* just ignore it.
Prompt-a-thon masterlist
~~~~~
Rhys turned the car off in the driveway and had a split moment of panic as what to do next. He wasn’t sure who he should go to, his wife or his son.
“Can you get Tristan, please?” Feyre asked from where she sat in the passenger seat, her voice tired. “I’m not sure if I can bend over.”
Decision made.
“Of course, darling,” Rhys said, unbuckling his seat belt and getting out of the car. Then he was opening the back door, seeing his newborn son strapped into his car seat.
He was so small, unbelievably so. The car seat itself seemed to swallow him up, his little mouth pouting from the way it cradled him. His eyes were closed but grunted softly as he moved his little fist. Rhys took a steadying breath, pushing down his nerves at manoeuvring his son out of the car. Feyre had put him in and this would be the first time getting him out.
“You can do this,” Rhys said to himself as he went through the possibilities. Don’t drop him. Support his neck. Don’t bang his head on anything.
Rhys carefully lifted his son up Tristan let out a sound of protest, whimpering as his fall reflex had his arms waving.
“I got you, I got you,” Rhys murmured and bundled him against his chest. Tristan settled at that and Rhys saw Feyre reaching awkwardly into the back seat. “Leave the bags, I’ll come back for them.”
Feyre smiled and did as he said, meeting him at the front of the car.
“We’re bringing him home,” Feyre said quietly, running her hand over their son’s head. “I’m so excited.”
Rhys lent over and brushed a kiss to Feyre’s temple. They walked up the few stairs together but Feyre stepped ahead of him to open the front door. Rhys stepped through it, into the peacefully quiet house. This moment was perfect, everything felt right. Carefully moving his son into one arm Rhys wrapped the other around Feyre.
Rhys smiled and said, “Welcome home, everyone.”
~~~~~
It didn’t take long for the peaceful serenity of the moment to be broken. Tristan had been born with a decent set of lungs and it seemed his favourite pastime was pushing them to their limits. They had been home for a full 24 hours and understandably everyone was still trying to find their rhythm. Feyre had been up nursing most of the night, so half an hour ago Rhys had sent her off to bed, taking his freshly fed and changed son downstairs. Almost as soon as Rhys had hit that bottom step Tristan had started crying and had barely stopped since. Rhys was so absorbed in trying to settle his baby boy that he didn’t hear the front door open and wasn’t aware he had guests until they stood in front of him.
Amren stood there, looking immaculate as always, Varian just behind her arms piled with bags. His family had literally played scissors, paper, rock for order of visiting rights and Amren had come out the overall winner. But by the look on her face Rhys thought maybe she was regretting her luck.
“Hey,” Rhys said, bouncing where he stood, baby still crying on his chest.
“You look… frazzled,” Amren said by ways of greeting.
Rhys just nodded his head in thanks. “Newborn chic.”
That earned him half a smile from Amren.
“I’ve got food, I’ll put it in the kitchen,” Varian said over the whimpering.
“Where’s Feyre?” Amren asked, doing grabby hands for Rhys to hand the baby over, which he did.
“Sleeping,” Rhys said.
“How is she sleeping through this?” Armen asked as she rocked the baby, trying to soothe him.
“Noise cancelling headphones,” Rhys admitted.
Amren snorted, but turned her focus to the baby.
“Before you ask he’s been fed, changed, everything,” Rhys said, a little exasperated. “Apparently newborns just cry.”
“Can I?” Varian asked, reappearing again.
“Be my guest,” Rhys said.
Varian took the baby from Amren, swaddle and all, then moved to the couch. Rhys and Amren followed, watching curiously. He laid out the swaddle before laying Tristan on top of it murmuring soft words the whole time. Tristan wailed non stop but Varian didn’t seem at all perturbed. Then he wrapped the baby up, trapping Tristan’s arms beneath the fabric. As he tucked the excess fabric around Tristan’s body he finally quieted, whimpering instead of screaming. Varian picked him up then, cradling him in his arms and started to rock. The house went near silent.
Rhys looked on a little wide eyed and shocked, he hadn’t picked Varian for a baby whisperer but he couldn’t deny the evidence in front of him. A quick glance at Amren told him she was equally as surprised.
“What?” Varian whispered.
Rhys didn’t say anything, but Amren said, “Why don’t you go have a lie down. We’ve got him.”
With a sigh Rhys accepted and walked up the stairs to his bedroom. Feyre was fast asleep, headphones still on and Rhys curled up beside her, pressing a kiss to her cheek before falling asleep himself.
~~~~~
Feyre woke up feeling refreshed, still tired to her bones but refreshed. She felt a warm weight beside her and found Rhys asleep next her on the bed. She glanced at the bassinet in the corner of their room and saw that it was empty. A little confused she pushed herself up from the bed, groaning at the lingering pain in her body and went in search of her son.
She assumed that some family member had him, they were supposed to start visiting today but she couldn’t remember who was first. They’d all had their introductions at the hospital but Feyre knew they were all too excited to stay away for too long. Slowly making her way down the stairs she headed for the living room and saw Amren sitting in an armchair on her phone. When she heard Feyre coming she held a finger to her lips and pointed. Feyre followed the direction of her point and saw where her son was.
Varian was sprawled on the couch, Tristan tucked into the crook of his arm. Both of them fast asleep. Surprised and delighted Feyre made her way to the kitchen to get herself something to eat before her hands would be full again. She smiled to herself as she made a sandwich, grateful for all of this. Especially her family.
Who the hell could possibly be calling me at 7.30 on a Saturday, a very pissed off Y/N thought, as she lay under the covers in bed. She had been letting her phone ring in the hopes that the caller would simply call again at a more appropriate time. Apparently not, she thought, as it started ringing for the third consecutive time. She grudgingly reached for it on her nightstand, and saw that it was her best friend, so she answered it. "It is 7.30am, Rebekah. What?"
"Good morning to you too", Rebekah replied, sounding slightly miffed. "Are you seriously still in bed? Have you forgotten it's your own bloody birthday?"
"Oh. I suppose it is, isn't it", Y/N said. She was never the type to wake up early, especially on weekends, so in her sleep-deprived state, she had completely forgotten that she turned 24 today. Not that she was particularly excited about it anyway.
"Well, happy birthday. Now get out of bed, for heaven's sake. I'm throwing you a birthday party at the compound." Rebekah said, sounding smug.
Y/N was suddenly fully awake. "I'm sorry, you're doing WHAT?"
"I'm throwing you a birthday party", she said, deliberately slowing her words and enunciating every syllable, as if she was talking to a small child. "Pay attention, Y/N, good God. Now I'm thinking of starting at around 8 pm? Is that good for you? Because I'm sure we'll need plenty of time to turn your sweatpants and frizzy hair into something acceptable looking."
Y/N groaned. "Rebekah, you know I'm not a party person. I'm not even that much of a birthday person!"
"I know, but you're my best friend, I can't just let your birthday go by without doing anything to celebrate it! Plus, Elijah will be there," she said.
Y/N's heart did a flip at the sound of his name, but she tried to be nonchalant when she said "So what if Elijah will be there?"
Rebekah scoffed. "Oh come on, Y/N. I'm your best friend, I know you fancy him. And if you ask me, he's a bloody fool for not seeing it all this time. Tonight's the night to really show him what he's missing. Please come."
"Okay, fine. I'll come. I don't have a dress though", she said.
"Glamming you up is my job, Y/N. Leave everything to me. I'll drop by in an hour or two to pick you up and make you stunning. Okay, lots to do. Cheerio!", and Rebekah was gone.
Y/N sighed as she got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She had come to know and befriend all the Mikaelsons over the last few years. She knew that Elijah was still pining for Hayley, even though she got married to Jackson, but for a long while now, she couldn't help having these irksome feelings for him: this inexplicable happiness when she saw him laugh, jealousy when she noticed Elijah glancing at Hayley for those few extra seconds, and an embarrassing flush to the cheeks whenever he looked particularly handsome in his suit. She didn't know what triggered all of it, and it seemed awfully cliche but one day, she simply saw him in that "new light", one that wasn't just the brother of her best friend. Its probably a bad idea to have feelings for someone you could call a friend. And yes, she was almost certain that those feelings would never be reciprocated. But something about him, just made it impossible for her to shake him off. She couldn't deny that a considerable part of her hoped that tonight would present an opportunity, to see if there could ever be anything more than friendship between them, but the other part just hoped that she could make it through her own party without needing to escape.
----
As she fastened her earrings, Y/N could barely recognize the woman she saw in the mirror. Rebekah really had done a good job, she thought, looking in awe at herself, twirling slowly to see every angle. Her hair was now perfectly wavy and shiny, and her body clad in a red, strappy number that had a slit up the right leg. Granted, it was a little more showy than something she'd pick out for herself, but she also looked hotter than she ever had before.
Rebekah then barged into the room, and looked extremely pleased. "Well don't you look beautiful? I told you, red's your colour. Anyway, the party's started already. You should come downstairs, everyone is waiting for the birthday girl."
"I'll be there in just a minute", Y/N replied. "Hey, Rebekah, thank you. For all this. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome", she said with a genuine smile, giving Y/N a hug. "Well, I'm finally going to have a drink. Join us soon, would you?" she said as she left the room.
Y/N looked at herself in the mirror for the last time. Okay, pull it together, she thought. You're going to go up to Elijah, you're going to ask him to have a drink with you, have a nice conversation like a normal person. Okay. You can do this. She finally left the room, and heard the loud dance music blasting through the whole compound. As she was making her way downstairs, she saw how Rebekah had outdone herself with this party, it was preposterously over-the-top but in the best way. Only Rebekah could have pulled all this together in a day, she thought, watching the trapeze artists contort their bodies and swing from the ceiling on their silks. Y/N scanned the premises as best as she could for Elijah, but couldn't see him anywhere. She decided to make a beeline for the bar anyway. Probably best to have a little Dutch courage first anyway, she thought. So she got herself a red solo cup of beer and waited for any sign of Elijah.
----
Well, the party was officially over: the guests had all left, the bartender, dancers and other staff had cleared out, Rebekah was probably off somewhere with Marcel, and Elijah had never showed. Y/N was left to pick up the cups, bottles and all manner of debris that was left on the ground. She started picking up the garbage and tossing it into big black bags, feeling dejected as ever as she thought about how miserable she had found her own party.
After several drinks and an inspiring speech from Rebekah about how she shouldn't let her idiot brother get in the way of her having fun at her own birthday party, Y/N tossed all inhibition aside and decided to dance. She spotted a good looking guy on the dance floor and sidled up to him. "Hey, you wanna dance?" she said. "Hell yeah", he said, looking her up and down. "I'm Marco, what's your name?" She smiled sheepishly and replied, "I'm actually the birthday girl." He laughed. "No kidding? Well, happy birthday Y/N. Let's dance." He put his hands on her waist and moved to the music expertly, he was quite good at this, she thought. As Y/N placed her hand on his shoulder, she remembered that Elijah had a shirt exactly like this. Mm, he looks good in that shirt. No wait, stop thinking about Elijah! she thought. "Everything okay?" Marco asked her, noticing the slight frown on her face. "Yes," she replied, smiling again, "everything's fine." They continued to dance, but Y/N's mind continued to wander to Elijah. How he would have had his drink quietly in the corner of the room, observing the party before him. Maybe she could have plied him with enough alcohol to get him to actually dance, or maybe he would have asked her himself seeing as it was her birthday. She suddenly felt overwhelmed and far too hot, she needed to get away from all this dancing. "Marco, I'm sorry, I think I just need to sit down for a while. A little too much to drink, you know", she said, as she pulled away from him abruptly, walking off the dance floor and then bumping straight into Rebekah.
"There you are, I've only been looking all over the bloody place for you. The cake's ready, you have to cut it, come on", she said, taking a hold of Y/N and steering her to the front of the room, where a very pretty cake lay on a table, with 24 lit candles on the top. "Okay, everyone, we're about to cut the cake, start singing!"
Y/N stood awkwardly as the crowd of people started singing the Happy Birthday song to her. She had never enjoyed this part of birthday parties and was grateful for when it was over. "Blow the candles and make a wish!" Rebekah said loudly. Y/N thought about her wish for just a moment.
Elijah or no Elijah, I just wish to be happy. And then she blew.
Y/N had just about finished gathering all the trash, and she picked up the two giant bags. "Can I help you with that?", a voice suddenly said behind her, making her jump, though she recognized it immediately. Stupid vampires with their powers to sneak around in total silence.
"Elijah? What are you doing here?" He didn't answer, instead took the trash bags from her hands and walked to the recycling bins outside the building, while Y/N just stood there. He returned to her, and looked around the place, at some of the decorations that were still up, and he spotted the cake that was still on the table. "Ah, cake", he said. "Yes Elijah, it's customary to have them on birthdays", Y/N said sarcastically, arms crossed over her chest, "you put candles on them and make a wish when you blow them out."
He looked at her. "What did you wish for?" he asked.
It was her turn not to answer now. "Would you come upstairs with me for a moment, Y/N? Please", he asked her, looking serious as he always did.
"Okay, sure", Y/N said, following him up the stairs. She soon realized that he was leading her to his bedroom, where Y/N had never been. Confused, she asked "Why am I in your bedroom?"
"Well, firstly, I wanted to apologize for missing your party", he said, looking genuinely sorry.
"Oh", she said. She hadn't been expecting him to apologize. "Well, apology accepted. Um. Why didn't you come, though?" she asked him, unable to stop the sadness in her voice.
He sighed. "Niklaus and I had to handle something urgent with some witches. One of them has started something of a rebellion, and is hellbent on destroying our family. We managed to subdue him long enough to put the Cursed Shackles on him. Niklaus is with him at this moment, trying to get information out of him, that is, if he’s managed to refrain from killing him yet."
A simple "oh" was all Y/N could say. She couldn't think of anything else that wouldn't make her sound like a complete and utter child. She perched herself on the edge of the large bed, and he sat next to her.
"We didn't tell you or Rebekah because, well, we didn't want to spoil your night. I hope you can forgive me."
"Okay, fine. You're forgiven. And just so you know, my night sucked", she said, smiling at him, though she had no idea why.
"I'm sorry to hear that", he said, and he sounded it too.
She looked down at her hands, twiddling her thumbs like she always did when she was anxious. "Yeah, I'm not really big on partying."
He chuckled a little, then went back to being serious. "Listen, Y/N, there's another reason I asked you up here. I actually uh, have a gift for you."
"A gift?" she said, more bewildered than ever. He stood up and walked to his nightstand, and pulled a long, thin black velvet box out of the top drawer, and handed it to her. "Happy birthday, Y/N."
She stood up and opened it, and saw a gorgeous necklace: a silver chain with a teardrop pendant studded with a blood-red ruby. She lifted it out of the box in shock, mesmerized at the way the stone caught the light. "Elijah, it's beautiful", she said. "But you know I can't accept this, it's way too much."
He put his hands on her shoulders, looking her in the eyes. "Please", he said quietly. "Take it." He took it from her hands and asked, "May I?" Y/N nodded quietly, turning around so that Elijah could do up the chain around her neck. His fingertips briefly brushed against her skin as he fastened the clasp, sending chills down her spine. She turned back around to face him, touching the pendant gently. "Thank you, Elijah", she said looking into his brown eyes, and then overwhelmed by emotion, she wrapped her arms around him. His hands were on her back and in her hair, and suddenly she felt a lot better about tonight. She smiled as she pulled away, even though she knew she had to leave. "Well, I'd better get home, it's getting late. Goodnight", she said, starting to walk away.
"Wait. Y/N", Elijah said, a sense of urgency in his tone. She looked back, waiting for him to say something, but he was silent.
"What is it, Elijah?" she asked.
He took a step closer, looking strange. Is he... nervous? Y/N thought. She hadn't seen him look nervous once. "I have to confess something, Y/N. I know that you and I have always been friends. But the past few months, I don't know how to explain it. I haven't been able to get you out of my head. You might not feel the same way about me, but I know I would regret it forever if I never told you how I felt for you."
Y/N's jaw practically dropped to the floor. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. Elijah had feelings for her? Her mind was whirling with this new information, and she found herself literally speechless.
Moments passed in total silence. "I'm sorry if I've upset you, but please, say something. I need to know how you feel", Elijah pleaded.
She didn't have to say anything. She knew exactly what to do. Overcome with emotion, Y/N walked up to Elijah, and tiptoed to kiss him ever so softly on the lips.
"That's how I feel", she whispered, touching his cheek. Elijah looked at her with an incredulous smile, as he held her face in his hands, and leaned in to kiss her. The kiss was slow and torturous and all-consuming, his lips burning hers, his hands igniting sparks wherever he touched. Her entire body was aflame.
She gasped when she eventually had to pull away for air, chest heaving. "I can't believe that just happened", she said, her voice soft and filled with the best kind of disbelief.
"Neither can I", he replied, his smile wide as he started to kiss her again.
25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020
Day 3 - You Don't Care
Author's Prompt: Beca Mitchell expresses her feelings through her music. Chloe finds a song Beca has been working on and thinks it's meant for her. She listens to it and thinks Beca wants to break up with her, and it's almost Christmas. Flashbacks will be in italics.
It was Christmas Eve when Aubrey opened her front door to find her best friend, Chloe Mitchell, standing holding three-year-old Sophie, as tears streamed down Chloe's face.
"Chloe, are you okay?" Aubrey asked as Chloe carried Sophie inside the house.
"No-oh," Chloe sobbed.
Aubrey wrapped Chloe in a side hug.
"What happened?" Aubrey asked. "What's going on with you? Is Sophie okay?"
Chloe sniffled and pulled away from Aubrey. "Beca wants to break up with me!"
"What?!" Aubrey yelled. "What are you talking about?"
"She wants to break up with me," Chloe managed to say through her tears. "A-And I st-still lo-love her, even if she doesn't lo-love m-me anymore."
Chloe began sobbing again. Stacie came out of the kitchen.
"Is everything okay out here?" Stacie asked, looking between Aubrey and a sobbing Chloe.
Stacie took Sophie and sat on the sofa with her, while Aubrey pulled Chloe to her into a full hug.
"Chloe thinks Beca wants to break up with her," Aubrey said.
"That's ridiculous," Stacie said. "Beca does not want to break up with you."
"Yes, she does," Chloe cried. "And right before Christmas, too. I can't believe this is happening."
"Chloe, sit down and you tell us what's causing you to think Beca wants to break up with you," Stacie said.
"Stacie's right, Chloe," Aubrey said. "Maybe we can work through this with you."
"Okay," Chloe said and sat on the sofa, taking Sophie and placing her on her lap.
"Take your time, Chloe," Aubrey said. "And start from the beginning."
~~ Day 3 of the 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020 ~~
"Okay," Chloe said after everyone got comfortable. "Earlier today, Beca was working in her home studio. . ."
Beca's phone rang and she sighed when she saw whose name popped up on the caller ID.
"This had better be good, Theo," Beca said as she answered the call. "It's Christmas Eve and I promised Chloe I'd take Sophie to the park this afternoon so she can finish wrapping presents."
"We have an emergency and need your help," Theo said.
Beca sighed and said, "No."
"You have to," Theo said. "Khaled specifically asked for you to handle it."
"Too bad," Beca said. "I am on call 24/7 for you guys and hardly ever take a day off. It's Christmas Eve and I have a kid. I have to draw the line somewhere and I'm drawing it here."
"Khaled wants to talk to you," Theo said.
"No, Theo, don't-" Beca said before hearing Khaled's voice on the phone.
"I'm truly sorry, Beca," Khaled said. "But, Simon himself called and requested your help on this. We, uh, I am begging you to come in today. Just for a couple of hours. Please?"
Beca sighed and ran a hand across her forehead. "Fine," she said. "I'll give you two hours and that includes my travel time to and from the studio. The clock starts as soon as I end this call."
"Thank you, Beca," Khaled said. "I really-"
Beca ended the call and didn't hear anything else. She took a deep breath and went in search of Chloe.
"Chlo?" Beca called out as she exited her studio. "Babe? Where are you?"
"Sophie's room." Chloe's voice was quiet, but loud enough for Beca to hear.
Beca walked into Sophie's room and found Chloe holding a sleeping Sophie while rocking her in the rocking chair. Chloe looked at Beca standing in the doorway.
"Uh-oh, I know that look," Chloe said, as she moved to gently place Sophie in her toddler bed without waking her.
Chloe took Beca's arm and led her into the hallway outside Sophie's room.
"What now?" Chloe asked.
"I'm sorry," Beca said. "I have to go to the studio, but I'll only be gone for two hours. I swear."
"What am I supposed to tell Sophie when she wakes up and you're not here? It's Christmas Eve and you promised you'd take her to the park after she took her nap."
"I know I promised," Beca snapped. "And I'm going to keep my promise. It's not like I planned this."
"I wonder sometimes if maybe you do," Chloe mumbled, looking down at the floor.
"I'm sorry," Beca said. "What was that?"
"Nothing," Chloe said, looking up at Beca. "Just go, and we'll see you when we see you."
"Beca looked like she wanted to say more," Chloe said. "But, instead, she just left."
"Probably because she didn't want to fight with you," Stacie said. "Sounds like you wanted one."
"Why?" Chloe asked incredulously. "Because I expected her to honor her promise to me and Sophie that she had the day off. It wouldn't be the first time she promised something and then got called to the studio and forgot about us."
"This is nothing new with you two," Aubrey said. "Why is this time any different than the others?"
"I'm getting to that," Chloe said.
After Beca left, Chloe was going to their room when she noticed Beca had left the studio door open. Chloe went to close it and noticed Beca's laptop was left open as well; she went over to close it. As she reached for it the words you don't care caught her eye. She sat in Beca's chair and read what she assumed was a song Beca was working on.
Chloe's mouth dropped open and a soft gasp left her lips as she read:
(Oh) I don't wanna lose you I don't wanna lose you But it's so hard when you don't care anymore Our love was amazing Now it's not worth saving Something tells me you don't care You don't care anymore
Sophie cried out and Chloe pushed the lid down on Beca's laptop. Chloe didn't notice the laptop lid was sitting half-open as she wiped a tear from her eye and hurried into Sophie's room.
"I changed Sophie and came straight here," Chloe said.
"I still don't see how you got to the point that Beca is going to leave you," Stacie said.
"Beca always uses music to express her feelings or emotions," Chloe said. "Everybody that knows her knows that. This song is about a relationship collapsing and one person feels like the other doesn't care anymore. Beca thinks I don't care about her and our love isn't worth saving."
Aubrey looked over at Stacie as Chloe started sobbing again.
"Mommy no cry," Sophie said, looking at Chloe her lower lip quivering.
"How can Beca think I don't care about her," Chloe sobbed, pulling Sophie tighter to her. "I tell her I love her all the time."
"I'm going to get you some water," Stacie said as she stood from the sofa.
"Thanks, babe," Aubrey said as Stacie went to the kitchen.
~~ Day 3 of the 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020 ~~
Stacie pulled her phone out of her pocket as soon as she was in the kitchen and out of sight of Chloe.
"Come on, Beca," Stacie said. "Pick up, pick up, pick- Beca?"
"Stacie?" Beca asked. "I was just getting ready to call you."
"Why?" Stacie asked.
"To see if my wife and daughter were over there," Beca responded. "Chloe's not answering her phone."
"They're here," Stacie said.
"Why?" Beca asked. "I promised her I'd be back from the studio in two hours and it's only been a little over one."
"Maybe you should just come over here and talk to Chloe," Stacie said. "She's really upset."
"Why is she upset?" Beca asked. "Is she planning to leave me? Oh, God, what am I going to do if she doesn't want me anymore? What if she takes Sophie away from me. I can't live without them, Stacie, I swear I can't. They're my whole world."
Beca's breath hitched and Stacie couldn't help but smile at how quickly Beca jumped to such a conclusion.
"I swear you and Chloe are such drama queens," Stacie said. "Now get your ass over here so you and your wife can talk."
"Okay," Beca said, sniffling before adding, "I'll be there shortly."
Stacie ended the call and put her phone back in her pocket. She grabbed a couple of bottles of water and a juice box and went back to the living room.
"Here you go, Chlo," Stacie said, handing Chloe a bottle of water. "I also brought a juice box for Sophie."
"Thank you," Chloe said, taking the water and the juice box. "Look, Sophie. Aunt Stacie got you a juice box."
Stacie handed the other bottle of water to Aubrey. "Thanks, babe."
Chloe set her water on the table and put the straw in Sophie's juice box. She held the juice box for Sophie as she took a sip.
"What do you say, Sophie?"
"Tank you, Aunt Tacie."
"You're welcome, sweetie," Stacie said, brushing Sophie's hair back from her face.
"Chloe, do you and Sophie want to stay for dinner?" Aubrey asked. "I know you and Beca don't usually plan too much for Christmas Eve foodwise. We're planning to order in."
"That would be nice," Chloe said. "It will give me time to figure out what I'm going to say before I see Beca.
"You could spend the night, as well," Aubrey said.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Stacie said.
"Why not?" Aubrey asked.
"Well, for one, it's Christmas Eve," Stacie said. "And, two, Beca is on her way over here. She called looking for Chloe when I was in the kitchen. She was worried when she got home and these two were gone."
~~ Day 3 of the 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020 ~~
Beca ran upstairs to change her shirt before going over to Stacie and Aubrey's. She noticed the door to her studio was open and looked inside. Her laptop was only half closed so she walked over to close it, and saw what was on the screen. She smiled as she realized that Chloe must have seen the song and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Beca grabbed the laptop and rushed downstairs and out the door. She got in her car and hurried over to Stacie and Aubrey's place.
Chloe, Aubrey, and Stacie looked up when there was a knock on the front door.
"That's probably Beca," Stacie said, getting up from the sofa and going to the door.
Beca entered and saw Chloe looking at her, so she smiled. Chloe didn't return the smile, causing Beca's smile to drop. Chloe looked down at Sophie.
"Mama!" Sophie said, looking at Beca.
"Hi, baby," Beca said, walking over to sit next to her wife and daughter.
Beca kissed the top of Sophie's head.
"Aubrey," Beca said, turning to the blonde. "Could you and Stacie take Sophie for a few minutes? I need to talk to my wife."
"Sure," Aubrey said, taking Sophie from Chloe. "We'll be in the kitchen if you need us."
"Thanks," Beca said.
Once they were alone, Beca took Chloe's hand. "So, I hear you're upset with me."
"I am," Chloe said pulling her hand away.
"I think I know why," Beca said, setting her laptop on the table in front of Chloe. She opened the lid and the song lyrics were on the screen. "It wouldn't have anything to do with this would it?"
"Maybe," Chloe said, blushing slightly. "I mean, you always use music to tell me how you're feeling. And when I saw those lyrics I thought it meant you didn't want me anymore. That you wanted to break up."
Beca reached up and wiped a tear from the corner of Chloe's eye.
"Babe," Beca said softly. "You are the love of my life. I waited too long to be able to be with you to just let you go so easily. If I lost you and Sophie, my life wouldn't be worth living. I'd die without you; I thought you knew that. I love you, Chloe. Forever and always."
"I love you, too," Chloe said, as Beca wiped another tear from Chloe's cheek. Chloe leaned into Beca's hand. "Forever and always."
"Good," Beca said, leaning in to kiss Chloe. Beca pulled back from the kiss, saying, "Now, about that song-."
"You don't have to tell me," Chloe said. "I'm satisfied that it's not about me."
"But, I want to tell you," Beca said. "I wrote that song with Leona Lewis. She stopped singing about six years ago and wanted to try and get back into writing music. She came to our studio and I was asked to work with her."
"Do you know why she stopped singing?" Chloe asked.
"Yeah," Beca said. "She was suffering from depression and wanted to take some time off, but the label didn't want her to. So, she quit. The song is about her breaking up with her record label. Sort of an eff you to them."
"So, that's where You Don't Care comes from," Chloe said. "It makes sense now."
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you," Beca said. "It's supposed to be a secret until the song drops tomorrow. I don't know exactly how I did it, but I got her to sing the song herself. She said no at first, but something I said changed her mind. And, if I do say so myself, the song is pretty good and she sounds amazing singing it."
"I can't wait to hear it," Chloe said, pulling Beca into a hug.
"Let's get Sophie and go home," Beca said, pulling out of the hug.
"Brey asked us to stay for dinner," Chloe said. "They're ordering in."
"I'd like that," Beca said. "But, we can't stay too long. We have to be ready for when Santa comes tonight."
~~ Day 3 of the 25 Days of BeChloe Christmases - 2020 ~~
The next morning, the four friends were sitting around Beca and Chloe's living room after watching Sophie open her presents. Beca and Chloe were snuggled together on the sofa; Stacie was down on the floor playing with Sophie, while Aubrey watched from the chair.
"So, Beca," Stacie said. "When is the song coming out?"
"Um, it should be on all the music download sites by now," Beca said.
Stacie pulled out her phone and checked the sites.
"Here it is," Stacie said, excitedly. "I'll download it so we can all hear it."
"So, you helped write it," Aubrey said. "Who did you get to sing it?"
"Leona Lewis," Stacie responded. "Here, listen."
Stacie pressed play and the song started playing. When it ended, they all clapped and congratulated Beca.
"It's a good song, Beca," Aubrey said.
"How is Leona Lewis in person?" Stacie asked. "She looks really pretty in the pictures I've seen of her."
"She is very pretty," Beca said.
Beca looked down at Chloe, who was staring up at her with her blue eyes wide.
"What?" Beca said. "She is!"
"Do you think she's prettier than me?" Chloe asked, pouting up at Beca. "Is she prettier than your wife? The woman you call the love of your life? The mother of your child?"
Beca laughed and said, "No, she's not. You, my dear wife, are the prettiest human being on the planet."
"You're so whipped," Aubrey said, laughing as she looked at Beca.
"I don't care," Beca said. "She loves me and that's all that matters."
Chloe moved to straddle Beca. Beca blushed and smiled.
"What are you doing?"
"This," Chloe said, capturing Beca's lips in a kiss.
Beca put her arms around Chloe's waist and pulled her closer. The kiss broke and they both sucked in some needed air.
"Thank you," Beca muttered.
Aubrey cleared her throat and glared at Chloe. Chloe got off of Beca with a huff.
"Merry Christmas, babe," Beca said, kissing Chloe's cheek. "I love you."
Chloe turned her head and gave Beca a quick kiss on the lips.
"Merry Christmas," Chloe said. "I love you, too."
“Make Your Own Kind Of Music” -- Alice Macray
A/N: I can’t get Alice’s impending transformation out of my head, so this happened. Big huge thanks to @thatgirlintheleatherjacket for convincing me not to give up on this and dealing with my whirlwind of emotions. Also please bear with me, I wrote this in under 24 hours and there are probably typos.
**This was written after having only seen the first three episodes of Mrs. America, so it is inevitably canon divergent**
Words: ~3,700
~Enjoy!~
Tumblr media
“I think you should wear the pink one. You know how much I love it on you.”
Alice smiled at the sentiment, pulling the blush blazer from its hanger.
“Well, alright then.”
She slid it on, tugging at the sleeves and tucking it around her skirt. Buck was silent as she walked to her vanity, eyes following her every move. And when she felt the heat of them, she hastily changed the subject.
“Remember that that pot roast is in the oven and should be done in about fifteen minutes. The children should be doing their homework, and they can put themselves to bed. Do you need anything else before I go?”
He hummed, ogling her from the doorway. “No no. It’s just that Phyllis is here to see you.”
And right on cue, she breezed past Buck into the room.
Alice glanced up from her vanity. “I apologize for not greeting you at the door, it’s just that I’m in a bit of a rush.”
Phyllis waved her off, seemingly distracted by the cleanliness of her room. She slid her finger over the fireplace mantle, flicking the dust off. “I only came by to return the books you had leant me.” A pause. “Where are you going?”
“Oh just a quick appointment,” Alice said smoothly, checking her hair in the mirror. “Where are the books?”
“Downstairs,” Phyllis said absently, walking around the room and testing multiple surfaces with her finger. “What kind of appointment?”
Alice swallowed. “Oh, did I say appointment? I meant a family obligation. I apologize.”
Again.
“A family obligation? Isn’t Buck going with you?”
Alice waved her off. “No no, it’s just a home visit.”
“Oh,” Phyllis quirked her brow, picking at a chip on her windowsill. “Well I’m more than happy to stay over and take care of dinner, if you need the extra help.”
Alice forced a smile, straightening out her blazer. “I think Buck can handle the children for one night.”
“Well, let’s hope so, since you’re not giving him much of a choice.”
Alice turned, forcing herself to take a breath as she rummaged for her earrings. “Was there anything else?”
She didn’t miss the way Phyllis hesitated, watching her eyes narrow in the vanity mirror.
“No no,” she said quickly, covering her pause as she straightened. “I just thought I’d drop those vile things back to you. I almost sent them off with the garbage. No need having more women getting nonsense ideas. But I suppose you should be the one to make that decision.”
“Well yes, they are my books.” Alice turned back around, careful to hold her smile in place as she walked toward the door. She stood in the doorway, checking her posture. “Thank you again for returning them, I’d hate to take time out of your busy day.”
“Oh, well… Anything for my biggest booster.”
A light hand on her elbow and a kiss to her cheek, and Phyllis was gone.
And Alice hated herself for almost wanting to follow.
~~~
Alice paused in front of the large door, tugging at the hem of her blazer as her mind flipped back on itself for the hundredth time in the short ten minutes it had taken her to walk across town to the building.
She shouldn’t be here. She wanted to be here. She shouldn’t do this. She wanted to do this. What would Phyllis think? Why did she care? What would her family think? Her friends, her son...
But before she could remind herself that she was only here because she had been invited, reminded herself that it really didn’t mean anything at all, two women pushed past her to the door, giggling between themselves.
“Are you here for the meeting?” one of them asked, mouth pulled open in a huge smile.
Alice nodded carefully, looking between the woman and the handle of the door. “Yes, I’m-“
There was a hand on her arm, friendly, gentle, and Alice flashed back to all of the times Phyllis had smoothed a hand down her arm, over her elbow, pulling her up and keeping her steady.
But she was alone here. Entirely alone.
She couldn’t do this. This was all a huge mistake.
Alice had just managed to swallow around her fear and form some sort of excuse, when the door pulled open and she was hit with a wall of sound.
Everyone was bustling, everyone was moving. And everything was so colorful.
She blinked at the instant panic that clawed its way up her throat, smoothing down her blazer. And then there was a blonde woman in front of her, a huge smile in place.
“Alice?”
She managed a nod.
“I’m so glad you made it! I’m Jill, the one who sent you the letter?”
Alice tried for a smile, fighting the way her lips wobbled with nerves. “Oh! Oh well, it is so nice to meet you, Jill. I appreciate the invitation. It—“
And then Jill was being pulled away by a woman with piles of paper balanced in her arms. She mouthed an apology as she was dragged across the room, and Alice smiled softly and nodded. Her nose twitched as she watched the room. She was here. She had done the hardest part. She had arrived.
But now she was alone.
It occurred to her as she watched all of the women bustle around, laughing and joking and working around one another, that she hadn’t had the burden of making new friends in quite some time. Not without Phyllis there to guide her and encourage her and prompt her forward.
And right now, the idea of it seemed practically impossible.
Alice had just decided to leave, finding the doors and keeping her eyes on them to hold herself balanced. Her fingers played over her blazer, smoothing over the rough fabric as she took a few steps towards the exit.
Another hand on her arm.
“Leaving so soon?”
It was one of the girls that had greeted her in the hallway.
“Oh, I—“ Alice tried, tripping over her words as she plastered a polite smile on her face. “I just thought that maybe this wasn’t the best idea, and—“
She cut off then, unable to find a rational ending to her sentence.
She wanted to be here. She wanted to learn. She wanted to be more than she was supposed to be. More than just a housewife. More than everything.
The girl in front of her gave her a kind smile. “I think you’ll like the talk today. If you just stay for a few more minutes, it should get started.”
Alice found herself nodding before she knew what was happening.
The girl squealed. “Oh yay! Perfect! Alright well, sit wherever you want. There’s coffee over there,” she pointed past a group of women huddled around a table, “and Gloria brought doughnuts!”
Alice blinked. “Gloria? As in…?”
“Mhm! She should be around here somewhere…” The girl trailed off as she looked around the room. “She’s the speaker today.”
Phyllis’s voice in Alice’s head stopped her automatic response, making her pause. Scoffing over Gloria Steinem’s glasses at the salon. All of those words she had pushed into her newsletters. How sad it was that she didn’t have a husband to fulfill that hole in her life.
“She wouldn’t be scrounging for validation if she had a family who needed her.”
“Are you alright?” the girl asked, and Alice shook her head out.
“Yes, of course. I apologize. Thank you so much for all of your help.”
The girl nodded and made to leave, but then a shorter woman walked past and the girl grabbed at her arm.
“This is Flo, she’s your go to for any kind of food or drink or… anything really.”
Alice giggled, holding her hand out. “Hi, I’m Alice.”
And the smile that she received was so warm, Alice thought she might melt. “Flo,” the woman said, shaking her hand. “A pleasure to meet you.”
Alice nodded just as someone shoved their way between them, four doughnuts stuffed in her mouth as she muttered.
“Damnit Betty, watch where you’re going!” Flo shouted, rolling her eyes fondly and pulling Alice over to the table. “I’d suggest you take a doughnut before Friedan eats them all.”
A shock went through Alice. “Friedan? Betty Friedan? That was her?”
Flo laughed, nodding. “Real and in the flesh.” She pushed the plate of doughnuts toward Alice. “Now eat.”
She almost grabbed one. She almost did. But then she paused, Phyllis’s voice nagging in the back of her head.
“I shouldn’t,” Alice said softly, offering a sad smile and shaking her head. “Thank you, though.”
But Flo only raised an eyebrow. “Honey. Take a damn doughnut. What are you afraid of?”
Who was she afraid of.
So she did, taking a small, polite bite. She hummed around a moan, relishing the sweetness. It had been entirely too long since she had allowed herself to indulge in something so delicious just for the sake of it.
“They’re delicious,” she said, covering her mouth and trying to swallow the sugar down. “Are they homemade?”
And the look Flo gave her, brows pushed up incredulously, had Alice wanting to crawl back into her shell. “No baby, they’re from the store. You know it’s not a woman’s job to bake everything, right? There are people who get paid to do that.”
“I think having homemade things are nice.”
Bella slid by, throwing a “You also thought Phyllis was nice” over her shoulder.
Alice spun around, hand coming up to her chest, but the woman was gone before she could manage a response.
And as she turned, eyes searching the room, they landed on a woman who stuck out like a gem.
Tall, long hair, dressed impeccably modern, aviators tucked over her ears as she nodded along with a conversation.
Gloria Steinem.
But it barely had time to register before people were pushing and someone was clapping and shouting for people to find a comfortable place to sit.
Flo walked over to a nearby desk, shoving a harsh woman out of her chair before catching Alice’s eye and patting the top of it.
So for the next twenty minutes or so, Alice sat on the hard edge of a desk, watching the other women sprawled out on the floor and envying their pants and light blouses and their sheer level of comfort. Comfort in their clothes, their friendships, their lives.
And as Alice listened to Gloria talk, all she could think about was Phyllis.
About how Phyllis talked. Lectured. So polished, refined, proper. Everything she stood for. Everything Alice had longed to be for so long.
And how Gloria talked, so raw, so unfiltered. With “fuck”s and “shit”s and crude language.
The first time the word had dropped from her mouth, Alice had flinched and Flo had laughed. But after that, every one of those vulgar words made her sit up straighter, hold her head higher. Built an empowerment in her that she didn’t know she was capable of.
Gloria talked for what felt like forever. What felt like three seconds. And Alice clung to her every word. But then Betty stood up and folded an argument into her point, and as they hashed out their differences of opinions, Alice found herself locking her eyes anywhere but on them.
She had never been one for conflict, but she felt especially uncomfortable about being witness to an argument that had clearly been brewing for some time, hashed out over what had to have been multiple meetings. And everyone seemed to have something to say, jutting in and taking sides and calling people out by name.
Alice pinned her eyes down on the desk, tracing the mess there and thinking absently that she should straighten it out for them, when something caught her eye.
It was one of Phyllis’s newsletters, buried under a pile of papers. And some sort of liquid had been spilt on it, because the ink had bled across the page and dried, crumpled and misshapen.
There was something about it, though. Something about the way that Phyllis’s face was disfigured, her smile morphed into something wicked and sickening, that made Alice almost grin. Phyllis wasn’t a queen here. She didn’t own these women.
They owned themselves.
~~~
Alice wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but after Gloria finished speaking, a large group of women swarmed around her, their questions rapid-fire.
It started with a lot of “why did you decide to come” and “aren’t you that girl with the banana bread?”
Jill had jumped in, answering a few questions for her and defending her to these women. But the more Jill talked, the more specific their questions became. Until Jill couldn’t answer for her anymore and Alice was trapped in a whirlwind of ethical questions that she didn’t know the answers to.
She didn’t have Jill. She didn’t have Phyllis. She was left alone to fend for herself, and she was utterly ill-prepared.
“How do you feel about abortion?”
“I- I’m not sure...?”
“How do you feel about gay rights?”
“I don’t know, I-“
“What about racial equality?”
She paused.
Phyllis flashed through her mind, the smile that she had given Alice after letting her get pummeled by Frances. After lifting her up and stoking her ego and sending her to the ring to be slaughtered. For standing up for what she believed in. For standing up to that horrible, racist woman.
So Alice said what she would have never been allowed to say with her own group of friends. What Phyllis would have breezed past and glossed over and shamed her for. She told the truth.
“I think it’s important, and honestly I’m not sure why it’s still an issue.”
There was a long pause, and Alice held her breath as the women around her exchanged looks. And then—
“She’s one of us girls!”
A cheer erupted from the group, and Jill patted her on the shoulder, beaming.
“Somebody get her a button!”
Alice blushed as someone leaned forward, pinning an ERA button to her blazer. And as she scrambled for something to say, Gloria smiled.
“Now you’re one of us.”
One of them.
It felt good, being accepted. Making friends on her own. Making her own connections and deciding her own beliefs. Having a part of her life that was completely hers. Not Phyllis’s. Not her husband’s. Not her children’s.
Utterly and entirely hers.
But just as she made to say something, to thank them and tell them how much their gesture meant, a song filled the room.
One of them started it. She didn’t know which one. But suddenly there was a tune threading through the air — something familiar, but words that she didn’t recognize.
“Mine eyes have seen the glory of the flame of women’s rage,”
And as soon as another voice joined, Alice pinpointed them, whirling on the sound.
“Kept smoldering for centuries, now burning in this age.”
Soon a group of four of them huddled in a corner and flicking through papers joined in, the sound breaking through the chatter and filling the room.
“We no longer will be prisoners in that same old gilded cage,”
And on the last line all of them joined in, Gloria passing around cups as she sang.
“That’s why we’re marching on!”
Alice found herself watching Gloria carefully, the way her smile lit up the room as she sang. How genuinely the words fell out of her mouth, with the crinkle of her eyes and the fire behind them.
She was jolted out of her daze by Flo’s hand on her arm.
“Come on, Alice. Sing with us!”
She held her hand up placatingly, adjusting her blazer and offering a small smile. “Oh, that’s alright. I— I don’t know this song.”
“It’s easy. Here, see?” she took Alice’s hands, looking her dead in the eye as she sang. “Move on over or we’ll move on over you. Move on over—“
“Or we‘ll move on over you,” Alice tried, nodding along with the gentle bouncing of her hands. The next line was the same as the first, and Flo smiled at her as she sang. But the next line changed, and Alice didn’t realize, and she messed up, and her hands slid from Flo’s.
She shook her head out. “I can’t— I shouldn’t—“
But Flo’s smile never faltered. She didn’t acknowledge Alice’s slip up. All she did was nod and lead Alice over to a couch, sitting down next to her and placing a hand on her shoulder.
“That’s alright. Just listen then, okay? Just listen.”
“You have told us to speak softly, to be gentle and to smile,”
Alice found her eyes wandering around the room again, at the way everyone was singing in unison. The way their arms were wrapped around each other, glasses raised high as they laughed and cheered.
“Expected us to change ourselves with every passing style.”
Alice tugged at her blazer again, swallowing roughly. Phyllis had picked it out for her. Was insistent that Buck would love it. And she had been right. But Alice hated it.
“Said the only work for women was to clean and sweep and file. That’s why we’re marching on!”
Something hit Alice like a brick, and she realized that she didn’t want to be wearing her blazer anymore. Didn’t want to conform to someone else’s definition of perfect. Of a woman. So she stood as the chorus came around again, unbuttoning it one snap at a time.
“Move on over, or we’ll move on over you,” Alice tried, singing softly under her breath as she unpinned her ERA button, fitting the pin into her silk shirt instead and not caring if it pulled the fabric. “Move on over, or we’ll move on over you.”
She could feel the eyes on her, Flo’s from the back, Jill’s from her right. And she met Gloria’s eyes across the room, watching her like a hawk as she folded her jacket and hung it over her arm.
“Move on over, or we’ll move on over you,” Alice sang again, a little bit louder this time, and Gloria nodded as she smirked.
“For women’s time has come.”
Someone nudged Gloria from the side and broke their eye contact, Gloria grinning at the woman and pulling herself off the wall to join a small group by the door. She swayed with them, singing the next part loudly. Almost baring her teeth.
“It is we who’ve done your cooking, done your cleaning, kept your rules.”
A woman slammed her cup down, making Alice jump as she screamed over everyone else.
“We gave birth to all your children and we taught them in your schools.”
Phyllis flashed through Alice’s mind again, her perfect figure, her six children. How easily she lost the baby weight. Like it was her job.
And then Jill was next to her, pulling the blazer from Alice’s arms and threading their fingers together.
“We’ve kept the system running but we’re laying down our tools,” she sang softly, tugging Alice over to the group at the front of the room with a smile.
“That’s why we’re marching on!” they all shouted in unison, cheering and taking a drink.
And Alice thought that she was starting to get the hang of it, taking a sip from Jill’s cup as the chorus came around again.
It didn’t take long for her eyes to find Gloria in the large group, surrounded by women and singing loudly as she laughed. Alice tracked her glasses, her long hair, her pants. And when she realized that Gloria was staring right back at her, she flushed a deep red.
Alice ducked her head as the next verse started, reaching to tug at her blazer before realizing it wasn’t there. She didn’t have anything to hide behind. Nothing to straighten, nothing to perfect.
Just herself, open and vulnerable and unprotected.
“You think that you can buy us off with crummy wedding rings,”
Alice’s thumb brushed her ring absently, Buck flitting through her mind before she brushed him away.
“You never give us half the profit that our labor brings.”
And then it was Phyllis, pushing her up to the podium and praising her accomplishments, and then sticking her out on the front lines to do all of her dirty work. Something hard settled over Alice’s heart, and she pursed her lips as she nodded with the next line.
“Our anger eats into us, we’ll no longer bend to kings,”
“That’s why we’re marching on,” Alice said, her voice firm. Because she was finished. She was finished bending and bowing and changing who she was based on what someone else decided she should be. She was finished.
Gloria’s arm was around her before she knew what was happening, squeezing Alice to her as everyone sang the next part loudly. Angrily.
“We have broken through our shackles, now we sing a battle song.”
And they all stomped in unison, raising their cups.
“We march for liberation and we’re many thousands strong,”
Gloria shouted “millions” over the chorus of “thousands” and Alice couldn’t help but giggle, letting herself be jostled by the woman’s arm around her shoulders. Gloria looked down at her, beaming, and grabbed her hand.
Someone one her other side grabbed her free hand and raised it in the air. Alice beamed.
“We’ll build a new society, we’ve waited much too long.”
Gloria squeezed her hand.
“That’s why we’re—“
“Marching on!” Alice yelled loudly, earning a huge cheer from the group.
And in that second, with everyone cheering for her, Alice found what she had been lacking this entire time. No. Not lacking. What had been suppressed within her, with every child she bore and every dinner she made and every curler she wore and every comment she swallowed.
Her freedom.
And when she sang the chorus one last time, practically screamed the words as anger and hurt and a need for justice boiled up inside of her, she felt free. She felt accepted. She felt heard.
And maybe that wasn’t so bad after all.
“For women’s time has come!”
