My Favorite Song from Each Guardians of the Galaxy Films
Now who woulda thought nine years ago that a practically unknown intergalactic team of heroes, which included a talking raccoon and talking tree, would become one of the best franchises within the Marvel Cinematic Universe? I don’t know if any of us anticipated it to come this far, but I think we can all agree that The Guardians of the Galaxy became the most well-paid off gamble Marvel took. The…

Movie Reviews: The Little Mermaid (2023)
A Disney remake actually being great? And not just a load of mixed opinions? More likely than you think! The Little Mermaid remake sparked intrigue (and unfortunately a lot of racist haters) by deciding to racebend Ariel. I always prefer Disney remakes trying to do something new instead of copying and pasting the same movie over live people. Nothing in the original story or Disney iteration…

TV Reviews: WandaVision
Yeah, I have a whole Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) phase to catch up on. And I must first confess this: I was prepared to not like WandaVision. While the MCU on the whole is an amazing cultural phenomenon, as films, they are an entertainment medium heavily restricted by time. You can only keep your audience’s attention for so long, so directors need to be selective on what arcs and elements…

My Top 5 Shea Moisture Hair Masques
Yes, I do have a blog I remembered to upkeep lol
Long time no see! So 2022 wasn’t one of my greatest years which about nearly sent my motivation to write straight down the toilet. I’m most active these days on TikTok (which can be found in my Linktree) between rants about politics, obsessing about Kingdom Hearts, and even delving into some cosplay. But I’m hoping to get back in the swing of things hear after much work on my mental health and…

Movie Reviews: Wonder Woman 1984
Movie Reviews: Wonder Woman 1984
Well… that was a thing that happened. For all the ups and downs of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), one of their few saving graces was Wonder Woman. With the brilliant casting of Gal Godot as the main lead and Patty Jenkins as the director, the first film in 2017 received widespread praise. From the acting to the action to the visuals and to the music, Wonder Woman proved that DC was capable of…

Movie Reviews: Mulan (2020)
Movie Reviews: Mulan (2020)
Wow… Some of you poor suckers really paid $30 for early access to this? Oy vey. While Disney remakes are more often than not dead on arrival, part of me was genuinely hopeful for Mulan. Sure, it wasn’t going to be a musical, and characters like Mushu and Li Shang were cut. But I was willing to give it a pass cause I’d rather Disney try to actually reimagine a story than cut-and-paste the same…

Anime Reviews: Aggretsuko Season 3
Anime Reviews: Aggretsuko Season 3
Of the newer anime in recent years, Aggretsuko keeps me coming back for multiple re-watches. It became my go-to comfort show as I navigate my 20s and go through the same milestones and hardships the main character does. No matter how many re-watches, I always laugh, cringe and feel hopeful after all Retsuko goes through. And the third season is hands down the absolute best so far with the new…

Movie Reviews: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
Movie Reviews: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
So, so, oh so very wrong, but I just can’t look away. Over the last 20 years, Sacha Baron Cohen established himself as quite the satire craftsman. With an extreme dedication to character development, he made a number of successful projects ridiculing American ideals and perceptions and pranking numerous unassuming bigots. But he’s not without controversy as he tends to walk a delicate line…

Movie Reviews: The Farewell
Movie Reviews: The Farewell
Well, this pandemic shows no signs of stopping soon. There’s still a whole plethora of movies within the last year I haven’t seen yet, so it’s no better time to catch up. After what was likely hours of scrolling through three different apps one night, I finally settled on The Farewell. I remember seeing trailers for it and thinking the basic premise was sweet, but it came and went before I…

So I Watched and Ranked All "The Twilight Saga" for the First Time
So I Watched and Ranked All "The Twilight Saga" for the First Time #Twilight #TwilightSaga #MidnightSun
Yes, there are a million and one better ways to spend my time, but this pandemic has me too bored for my own good, and I’m craving the trash. I have a couple other franchise binges slowly going on, and as timing would have it, Amazon Prime put all the Twilight movies back up with about 5 variations each (no doubt to reignite interest in the series with a new book, Midnight Sun, which recently…

Top 10 Shows/Movies I Watched During a Pandemic
Top 10 Shows/Movies I Watched During a Pandemic
Tumblr media
I never anticipated in my lifetime that I would live through a pandemic, but life loves to surprise. With shortened work hours and a zapped social life, we had to adapt and find ways to entertain ourselves to keep the maddening loneliness from setting in. So it seemed like the perfect time to catch up on shows and movies we kept putting off.
Whether it’s films which were supposed to be released…

Movie Reviews: Hamilton
Movie Reviews: #Hamilton #Hamilfilm
It’s come to streaming for audiences across the globe to finally enjoy; the renowned musical, Hamilton. Ever since its first opening on Off-Broadway in 2015, people went nuts on Hamilton‘s revisionist historical storytelling, providing a platform for actors of color to shine, and delivering catchy hip-hop show tunes all for an experience unlike most musicals. It quickly shifted to Broadway…

Movie Reviews: Parasite
Sooooo this is the first movie I ever saw made by Bong Joon-ho. I know, what kind of wannabe movie critic am I? I definitely heard of some of his other films by name only like Snowpiercer or Okja, but if you asked me about his directorial style, it woulda been a deer-in-headlights moment. But his latest film, Parasite, has me curious for more with a hell of a smash hit. Not only did Parasitemake…

Anime Reviews: Beastars
I know, it has been far, far too long since I watched or reviewed any anime on here. Time has a way of escaping me, and my attention span went down the shitter after college. But quarantine gave back some of that free time, and it seemed perfect to finally sit down and catch up on some shows. Today’s contender: Beastars. Yeah, what the hell is this furry nonsense? Well, while it definitely goes…

Movie Reviews: Onward
Movie Reviews: #Onward
Disney/Pixar animation having a new original idea which isn’t a sequel to a pre-existing property? Delicious, finally, some good fucking food.
Despite all the marketing and great promise for Pixar’s latest film, Onwardbecame one of many films which quickly fell under the rug with the COVID-19 outbreak, quarantines, and movie theaters closing to curb the virus’s spread. Less than two weeks in the…

I’ve been quiet on the hair care front for a while since my curls were happy and healthy for the longest time. I still have a hell of a stash to wade through, and I just wasn’t itching to experiment. But between false spring after false spring and wearing masks through the shelter-in-place order, my hair began suffering. Now I can live with a smooshed curl pattern from wearing masks; that’s a first world problem. But dry ends which could start a California wildfire? Not so much. I even tried co-washing for the first time in a while and that didn’t do jack shit for me.
Of the few impulse purchases I made in the last month, I needed to restock on the Not Your Mother’s Curl Detangler, and they had a buy one get one half-off deal. Plus I wanted free shipping and to be able to use another coupon, so I added on one of their masks which is the subject of today’s review: Not Your Mother’s Sicilian Blood Orange & Black Currant Butter Masque. I know, their product names really roll of the tongue.
While some of Not Your Mother’s older lines have sulfates and silicons, the brand constantly pushes their Naturals lines where the ingredients are 98% naturally derived. No sulfates, silicons, parabens, or any nasties you don’t need! This particular Butter Masque is designed to nourish dry and frizzy hair with a delicious blend of extracts and oils for soft, silky smooth locks. Of course, the major highlights are the orange extract and black currant seed oil which are both excellent ingredients to combat hair loss with Vitamin C. It also has rosemary extract and sunflower seed oil to aid in hair growth and shine.
Citrus is one of those scents which can be easily overwhelming for me. There’s definitely times I’ve been in Lush, picked up a citrus-scented product, and felt like I snorted a whole container of Tang. Thankfully, this masque not only has a pleasant scent, but every time I smell it, it makes my mouth water like I’m actually eating the fruits. I love products which can trigger the senses so deliciously like that.

Now, the mask says it can be used up to 3 times a week, but that’s overkill. There is such a thing as over-moisturizing your hair, and you don’t want to smother it; once a week is plenty for a deep condition. True to its name, the masque’s consistency is very buttery, and it easily smooths over your hair after conditioning. I never tested a Not Your Mother’s masque, so for my first test, I ended up using about 3 palmfuls of product to coat my hair. I left it in for about 20 minutes under a deep conditioning cap, and I realized I used a bit too much as it didn’t all absorb into my hair.
So I only used about 2 palmfuls for the next test, and I got similar results. A little product definitely goes a long way to moisturize for the week, and it left my hair super soft once it dried. I recommend if you want this masque to last and take advantage of the benefits, supplement it with a good conditioner or leave-in. While soft hair is awesome, the only downside is that it may be more difficult to hold a strong curl pattern.

Although my curls were more wavy, I was so happy to not have that dry hay feeling anymore. It was already so much easier to manager during the week on my refresher days, and I thankfully didn’t need to overdo it to keep the softness. I’ll have to cocktail with some of my other products to find a combo which will keep the curls, especially with the erratic weather changes. If none of your normal products seem to be working like they usually do, change up something in your routine, like this masque. You might be surprised on how instantly happy your hair will get with some change.
