【 KID'S BIRTHDAY 2024. 】
Tumblr media Tumblr media
          It is his birthday.
The party hasn't even started and he is already drinking.
He's ready to get wrecked and remember absolutely none of it tomorrow.
If you catch him when he's pissed enough, he might even be a little bit less horrible to you. Or maybe he'll be even more aggressive. Depends on how the night goes.

When will it happen? timing reading 🕰️
Hi everyone, I know I said I would upload a love reading next (it’s coming) but I felt really called to do a timing related reading, since I think I’m getting the hang of learning to interpret timing in tarot. This is a general reading, so only take what resonates. Some readings could be shorter or longer than others because this is very based on what just comes out to you. Make sure you ask a question related to the timing of something. Let’s get to it, pick a vintage item below for your reading.
Tumblr media
Pile 1
So, in terms of the timing of your question, I feel like there are two different types of people in this pile. If you are asking about love or anything to do with a specific person, I feel like this thing you are asking about is going to happen between seasons changing. So I think this could be (at least from my northern hemisphere perspective) between the end of summer to the start of fall, so between 2-6 months. If you were asking a question about conflict, personal growth, or anything unrelated to what goes into the category of the first type of people, I see this thing happening when you have come to a certain realization of breakthrough. I see this happening a bit slower, probably 4-8 months. Because there is this energy of being very stuck for awhile, but eventually prevailing over time from catching a new perspective. This is your reading pile 1, I hope you got some clarity.
Pile 2
Ok, so in regards to your question, you could either be asking about an event that you may not be particularly looking forward to, or there is just an emotionally charged question. I do see this event you are asking about happening quickly regarding the context. I think if you are asking about something that takes typically longer, this could be about 5 weeks from now. If you are asking about something quite quick, I’m getting five days from now. I think your question may have to do with a certain situation of conflict for most of you, or something related to this has been bringing you a lot of genuine stress, anger, and/or anxiety. A message I’m getting is to not get too in your head about this, and remember you control your own destiny. YOU are taking the lead here. That’s all Pile 2, I hope this brought you clarity.
Pile 3
You got all major arcana cards, so pretty strong energy. You may be asking about something or big or something you are very passionate about. So, I think the answer to your question is that the timing of this really depends on your actions right now, they could slow down or speed up the timing of this. This question involves a lot of divine timing. I know it might be annoying to hear, but the pace of this really depends on you. If you continue with positive actions towards this event, I do not see this happening any later than 5 months from now. But again, there is this emphasis that this is really dependent on the work you are putting in so to speak. That’s it Pile 3, I hope this brought you some clarity.
Pile 4
I think based on the cards I pulled, this may be a bit of a longer timeframe from when you expect this event to happen. I do think whatever this is, there is definitely a positive outcome to this, if you are asking about something you want to happen, don’t worry, it will eventually happen but it’s going to take time. It is not found to happen overnight. This could be dependent on another person or other people, which is why this is taking so long. I feel like this may happen within a year, at the earliest I feel like this could be is 6 months from now. There’s an emphasis on waiting for the right opportunity and having patience. This is all pile 4, I hope this brought you clarity.

May I request the brothers reacting to s/o feeding the undateables?
Aoh, yes! Absolutely! It was pretty fun to write so I just hope you'll like it as well! ^^

*ੈ✩‧₊˚ 7 brothers react to reader feeding undateables
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ fluff
*ੈ✩‧₊˚ @vodka-glrl @miya-akane @indi-has-fallen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧ Lucifer's reaction will strongly depend on who it is EXACTLY
✧ if it's Luke, he'll let that slide as he's aware you treat him like your own child, he may sigh at the view and be a bit annoyed at it but will not interrupt
✧ if it's Diavolo, he'll be upset at not only that you're feeding another men but also because according to him, you're being a bit disrespectful
✧ so if it's that red head... you may receive a stern talk from him instead
✧ if it's anyone else tho... he'll do his best to just roll his eyes in slight annoyence at the sigh and stay quiet
✧ you don't expect him to actually tell you he doesn't like you feeding anyone else than him, do you? That would most likely destroy his ego so sorry hun
✧ if you ask him about it, he'll decline any of your ideas he might be jealous
✧ he's actually pretty good at hiding it so even if it bothers him for weeks, he won't show it and if he does, he'll immidietly blame it on his work or brothers
"Nothing's wrong with you feeding them. I honestly wouldn't even notice if you didn't told me about it."
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ to Mammon it doesn't really matter who you're feedint. What matters is that it's not him!
✧ will never show thaf it made him a bit jealous in front of everyone
"I ain't jealous! It's Levi's job!"
✧ will immidietly pull you away from that person with random excuse that isn't event any good
✧ if the other person would try to put a fight against him like Luke for example he might end up carrying you out of that room...
✧ but once you're finally alone, he'll decline any assumptions of him being jealous but with enough prying, he'll eventually break and admit the truth
✧ on the next day, he'll seek for any ocassion for you to feed him
✧ bur he won't tell you about it, no... instead he'll just randomly say how he brought cake for both of you and doesn't touch his hoping you'd get the hint
✧ if you don't, he'll just eat by himself. But don't be surprised if he'll start being a bit pouty
✧ but if you somehow do get that hint, he'll blush a bit but be happy despite saying all the time that he's doing it for only your satisfaction
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ Levi is literally Avatar of Envy, all he needs to get jealous is for you to look at someone else for too long and yet you're doing something like this!?
✧ he's about to break to tears on spot...
✧ he either makes a random excuse or just leaves quietly to his room
✧ you better notice it and go after him because if you won't, he'll go deeper in his thoughta eventually considering you don't love him anymore
✧ BUT there's also a chance for his other reaction which would be blowing up on a person you're feeding for having all your attention, but it only may happen if you're feeding anyone else than Diavolo or Barbatos
✧ if he manages to get some private talk with you, depending on his mood he'll either confront you about it or stay quiet
✧ if he's quiet, he'll probably play on something to avoid eye contact as he just feels like he needs some time alone after what he just saw (when in reality he needs a bit if reassuring)
"Are... Are you sure you still love me...? You're not with me just because you pity me?"
✧ like when he's in his demon form, you know he'll definitely hold you in place and confront you how he should be the only one getting this sort of treatment
✧ after he realizes what he's doing tho, he immidietly becomes emberrassed instead...
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ Levi may be the own who's Avatar of Envy but Satan's the Avatar of Wrath and these two aren't too far away!
✧ when he notices you feeding someone, it better be just one bite, because there's very little he can hold in...
✧ during first bite - he'll treat it as if it's mistake, second - does his best to pretend he didn't saw anything, third - he's holding himself back but on fourth - everyone's running away because he just turned into his demon form
✧ doesn't care if it's Diavolo or Barbatos, he may not actually attempt to fight them but he will tell at them
✧ anyone else than them tho? Better stary running because he's not playing around...
✧ now good luck with calming him down, it was technically you who caused it + you're the only person he won't harm so that duty falls on you
✧ be prepared that he'll just keep you on his lap or side as he reads with his hand strongly wrapped around you with no intentions of letting go, that's his way of making sure you won't be going around and making another mistakes like that again
"No, you have to face your consequences. Next time don't try to piss me off on purpose."
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ somehow Asmo is extremely calm about this...
✧ he'll just get in between you, shamelessly asking you to feed him some as well and join whatever conversation you were having with your friend
"Hey hon! Don't you think you're missing on someone? Who's gonna face this face~?"
✧ he somehow doesn't get jealous at all, he knows how kind you are and he's happy you have such a close friends!
✧ plus he knows you love him just as much as he loves you so you wouldn't change him for someone else when you literally have HIM on your side!
✧ if you want him to actually react negatively onto that action, it'd had to happen over and over, like every time that person comes or so
✧ it all starts by him asking you to feed him on daily basis too but if you decline... that's when he gets moody
✧ you'll have a whining demon on your side, clinging onto you and probably not letting you out of bed untill you give him some of your love and affection
✧ but he goes back to his normal self eventually either way
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ I feel like your relationship with Beel would include lots of times you two fed each other so he doesn't mind you feeding someone else for a change! It's a nice act!
✧ he really sees it as just a friendly act and doesn't think badly of it, mostly because he had lot of trust in you
✧ he may come and ask for a bite himself we all know it won't be a bite so he may as well stay for a bit and chat alongside the two of you
"Hey that looks tasty... will you mind if I have a bite as well? Oh and can you feed me too, please?"
✧ even if you do it every time that person comes over, he just doesn't get jealous or anything really
✧ the worst that can happen is him getting into a bit worse mood because you will ignore him while constantly feeding the other person, but he makes it known by putting his hand on your arm or so
✧ just give this boy small smile and a kiss, and he'll be back to his happy self!
✧ BUT there might happen some things he does on the next day without even realizing it
✧ like staying closer to your side for most of the day! Or wanting to feed you or for you to feed him, even if it's just one small bite
﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌
Tumblr media
✧ now... when Belphie wakes up just to see you feeding someone else? Oh no, he will not accept it
✧ he immidietly goes and lays his head on your lap claiming to just be taking a nap, hoping you'd stop feeding the other person
✧ but if you keep doing so, he'll get up, saying how he's not sleepy anymore. And that was supposed to be your first straightforward hint to stop!!
✧ but if you didn't... he'll either drag you out of that room or try to move your attention to him, depending on who the person is
✧ and when he wants your attention? Oh good luck...
✧ here he wants food, then he complained it's too hot, then he doesn't let go of your wrist when you want to do something else, then he's back at your lap, then he move shid head to your shoulder...
✧ if you don't get hint from there, he'll just hold your wrists down as he naps because all that act tired him out completely
✧ but if you do get it and finally leave with him, be prepared for a long nap. And don't even think of leaving! He won't let go of you even when he's asleep
"I want to sleep now... surely you can spend some time for me..."

Headcanon Series #16
Ice and Mav finally get their shit together after the Uranium mission. Don't ask me how, theories in the comments. Anyway, they kiss in public - on base or something, it looked very dramatic - they become a couple and the next morning Ice walks into the building he works in (enter important navy office) and half the officers he passes look very pissed at him, ready to bite his head off. Especially older ones he's known since the 90s or so. Most of them grumble some unfriendly sounding greetings into his direction. Some of the younger ones though smile at him with such happiness and sometimes clap his shoulder or congrate him, he can't really comprehend what's happening.
He shrugs it off and enters his office, only to find out his long time secretary and dear friend Mrs. Lesser is about to leave. For a vacation. She's never taken a vacation before. Sure, some free time over the holidays or when Ice took a break from work, but never longer than a couple days. Now she's gone for a few weeks.
The weird events continue when two hours later, a mad looking Admiral Hanson stands in his door and rants something about Tom being childish and stupid and how he could do such a thing. "Seriously, Tom. All those years and now you gotta pull a stunt like that? I thought better of you."
After the third officer passing his office and muttering something among the lines of "Really great, Kazansky," Tom calls for a meeting. He's the COMPACFLT after all. He outranks most people in the building. And this seems rather serious.
"Gentlemen, I am at loss for words. Your overall behaviour today has not only been out of line for work but also simply disrespectful. If this has anything to do with the events from yesterday, I can only say I am disappointed. We are professionals and the government, the state and the people depend on our work. We can't let something from any of our private lifes affect us like this. We're grown men and we should be able to handle such things like grown men. We can only function as a united front."
There's an audible huff at the other end of the table, coming from Admiral Marcus. "Easy to say for you, you got the guy you've been thirsting for the last 40 years, I lost about 200$ because of you and Mitchell." Admiral James, who sits next to him elbows him. Tom's eyebrow start to wander. "How exactly do you loose 200$ because of me? Please, elaborate."
Opposite from Marcus and James, Admiral Cameron pulls a thick folder from under the table and slides it over to Tom. Whispers and even gasps erupt. "It's over, so he might as well know now."
Tom opens the folder and is greeted with a long list of people, dates that reach back to the 80's and huge amounts of cash written down. Between the pages are various copied documents of conversations between him and Mav, pictures of them together on various occasions and hand-scribbled notes with more dates and different statements on them. Tom's eyebrows almost disappear in his hairline. "What is this?", he quietly asks, afraid of an honest answer.
Cameron sighs and speaks up: "Some guys from your Topgun Class apparently started this in 86'. It was about when you and Mitchell would get your shit together and do something against that unresolved tension between the two of you. They expanded their list with every squadron you both were in because you guys weren't subtle at all but also extremly stupid and the rest got a kick out of betting who'd give in first and when this would happen. At the ceremony in the 00's, when you got your stars, an Admiral got a hold on the list and decided to join. He brought it over here and no-one couldn't really resist. And now we heard of you and Mitchell eventually putting an end to this. Of course people are pissed, they bet way to high on the wrong guy or year!"
Tom's eyes skim down the list. It seems like every person he's known inside the Navy has their name written down on the yellowing paper. He spots Mrs. Lesser on there and let's out a surprised chuckle. "Marywas really good. Got almost 1000$ out of this. No wonder she's on vacation." He drages his hand over his face to regain some grip on the situation.
"I can't even- how did you manage to hide this from me for so long?", is the only question he gets out. James laughs. "We're the military. We have our ways." By now the whole table is chuckling or whispering in amusement. Tom can only shake his head, but also smiles. "Can I take this home? I need this in a proper display on my office wall. Or maybe over the dinner table. And you are all invited to an apology-BBQ."
Okay, I know this was weird, but in my head I can see so many people in the Navy that just see Pete and Tom working together and they think like "Yeah, these two are totally gonna end up together." I love people shipping IceMav, I'm sorry.

Yandere hcs - reacting to the attempt on your life
Mondstadt male edition
Starring: Albedo, Diluc, Kaeya, Venti
CW: Yandere, violence, human experimentation, drugging
Albedo
I think Albedo is the type of person with enough insight to predict and eliminate any problems even before they arise. If he thinks you're the kind to get yourself assassinated he will make sure that nothing can get to you, so the attempt on your life should be totallly unexpected to even happen.
The moment he learns of what almost happened Albedo finds himself frozen - how is he supposed to react to something like this? But this is only a moment and the next second Albedo already tries to deduce what lead to the attempt and where your attacker is hiding now.
He will gently comfort you, before convincing you to take sleep medicine and then he will be gone, capturing your assaulter(s) and using them as a subject to less Favonius approved experiments. A week or two later you might see the most bizzare and pathetic looking creature with a strangely intelligent eyes, Albedo will only shrug and smile softly when you ask what this creature is.
Diluc
His first instinct is to blame himself - first he was too weak to save his father, now his notoriety has inflicted harm upon you. It doesn't matter if the would be murder had nothing to do with him, Diluc would still find a way to feel guilty about it.
Diluc isn't the best at comforting people and the thirst for vengeance would burn to brightly in his blood, for him to stop and properly console you. He will, most likely, spend an hour or two trying to soothe you, before coaxing or tricking you into drink some strong calming medicine and then plan the revenge.
The days he spends to finding and punishing your attackers, you would spend under the watchful gaze of Adelinde, as Diluc has no one he trusts more. The second he has finished exacting their punishment he will stick to your side, spending almost every hour of the day with you.
Kaeya
Kaeya is frozen when he hears the news - his body completely going stiff, expression turning unreadable as thousand of thoughts strike him at once. He always had known that such events could occur, with him being who he is and having you tied to him, yet he never had truly anticipated it.
Kaeya will gently calm you down, remaining by your side for your safety and comfort, while some of his underlings and spies look into the would be assassination. Once they find the lead, he will start his own investigation, while leaving you with someone he trusts, and will check up on you regularly.
In the end, once the assassin is caught he will question the identity of the employer and then he will proceed depending on the said identity. If it's someone noteworthy and well-known Kaeya will be sure to stage a complete character assassination. He will dragout the long, humiliating processof uncovering their crimes whether they're real or staged and then lock them up once all of their loved ones are too ashamed to associate with them. If it's a nobody, then it makes it easier for them to disappear behind the bars of Favonius cells.
Venti
Venti is an ancient deity, who has seen all kinds of depravity that human can conjure - something like assassination, shouldn't come as a surprise for him, and it doesn't. He hears about it through the winds - the whole Mondstadt rests in the palm of his hand and no secret can be kept hidden for long.
He will stop it at the very start, offender falling to their death after a small help of bad weather- an accident, really, with none being the wiser. His behavior in the aftermath may be a little clingier. Venti is old and thinking about your mortality makes him feel old.
Expect him to stay a little bit more, look at you a little more intently. Venti is good at pretending to be human, when he never was, and these things just highlight the fact.

Hi, I just came from reading the last chapter of RnS, and I am once again shaking by how strong it made me feel, which is also finally giving me the strength to ask this, finally.
How do you write compelling, logical emotions? Like, you are writing as you go, and yet I go back and everything reads with such a sound conclusion, like the characters are feeling what they're meant to be feeling, like their emotions are deeply complex and it's just, how? Are there any tips you can give?
Have you studied any writing theory, or have you got any advice on dissecting pieces of writing for improvement? Because I feel like there's oh so much I can get from "improving from writing more"
Thank you for the kind words. Gosh I'm glad the emotions all make sense. I feel like that's one of the harder things to juggle -- especially when posting chapter by chapter, where sometimes weeks go by between scenes. It gets easy to lose things.
Answers to questions [as best I can] under the cut, because I can see this getting long and rambly.
How do I write compelling, logical emotions?
Uhm! This is a bit hard for me to articulate, because writing emotions is very intuitive to me. I'm a very emotionally aware person -- generally speaking I can recognize how I'm feeling and why very quickly within myself. That, I think, helps being able to write them. But some tips that are hopefully helpful:
Study yourself Emotional intelligence aside, the best way to write feelings is to figure out what they feel like. It doesn't have to be in-depth. You don't have to psychoanalyze yourself. It is enough to be able to go "I'm nervous. My stomach feels tied in knots, my throat is dry." or "I'm happy. I feel like I could dance, there's energy I need to get rid of. I feel full to bursting." Any time you've read something and gone "Oh god, that's exactly what that feels like!" It's because someone sat down and studied it for a few minutes. Sit with the uncomfortable feelings, or bask in the good ones. Root yourself in the moment and really stew. It doesn't have to be for big life events. If a movie makes you feel excited, just take a second to describe how it feels. If a book makes you cry, give a thought to what the tears are like. The next time you sit down to write a feeling, you might not be able to remember exactly what it felt like, but you will probably remember the words you attached to it.
Emotions in real life aren't logical, but stories are If you've ever gotten really angry, or really sad, or just any Big emotion, you know they're often overwhelming and paralyzing in their own special little ways. It is so easy to get swept up in the feeling of a thing that your brain turns off, and your body does crazy irrational things, and then its hours later and you've calmed down and it feels like you'll never get that emotion back again, because it was just so... much. That is allowed to exist in a story, but writing incomprehensible feelings takes your reader out of it after awhile. We need something to stay rooted in, if only so we have a reason the character is feeling as they are. Story emotions have a beginning, middle and end that you can chart. We see what causes them, we feel them, they come down from the high, and then they get a resolution. All of that doesn't have to happen at the same time. The character can feel anger over something and it drives their progression for the rest of the book. But, if at the end of the story, we don't see a resolution, it gets harder to believe -- even if in real life, emotions aren't always nearly so neatly tied. [Depending on the type of story you're writing, sometimes you might choose to intentionally leave emotions unresolved by the end, but generally they're still addressed in a "X was still angry, and would always be, but life moves on" sort of way. As long as it was an intentional choice that thought was put into, and that's evident in the character, people will believe it on a writing/empathy level.]
Emotions keep your character relatable, so keep them reasonable Emotions are how your readers connect with your character. Its the little moments where you get into their head and empathize where your attachments grow. Being able to see not only that a character is feeling something, but also see why they feel that way, does a lot of heavy lifting for making you like a character. Even if their feelings are inherently irrational [ie. thinking your friend hates you because they don't want to hang out one day], if you know why the character would feel that way [main character has social anxiety, which has been a problem through the whole book] you can sympathize with them, and care about their struggles.
Think about body language There is so much more to emotion than just "his stomach tied itself in knots" and "his anger was a lightning strike." Emotions are movements and mannerisms. Even something as simple as pacing can convey a thousand different things: quick steps, talking with your hands, in fast circles, leaning forward, beaming [Excited, sharing ideas]. Slow, ponderous steps back and forth in a line down the hall, hands clasped behind your back, brow drawn, gaze low [Contemplative, troubled, turning an idea over and over]. Stomping, storming, glowering, fists clenched, stopping sometimes in front of the door you're pacing in front of, scowling and turning back to your solitude [angry, bracing yourself for an unpleasant confrontation, could be calming down or could be building yourself up to something]. Body language can sometimes convey more of an emotion to the reader than writing how the feeling feels can, especially in a limited POV where you're only inside one character's head.
Physical pacing to show emotion, through word choice Make. Your readers feel things. With punctuation. This is where reading poetry will really help your writing, tbh. Poetry is where punctuation gets really contemplative, really intentional, and you can use that to your advantage in prose too. My thoughts are running. You can tell they're running because I'm in a rush and the words are longer and this sentence is running just like I am. It's one step over and over and over, and ignoring periods for commas because commas feel a little more like a step and less like a hard rest -- and sometimes you do breaks because it feels like a tumble what does this make you feel? It's breathless your readers are waiting for you to stop so they can stop reading and it feels distressing like maybe it's panic or thinking too quick and -- There's something. Creeping. Up on you. A hesitant feeling, like a predator in the grass. There is something disjointed here. In the sentences. The hard stops make you pause. The longer sentences lull you into something. It feels off-balance. Unsafe. Are you scared? Hesitating? What is it, exactly, creeping? You can also get really crazy with it. A character isn't thinking clearly so y o u s ss t art b r e a k i n g up t he wo r d s. You have to be careful. It has to be legible still. But it can be bold, and it can mean something and it can be eye catching and it can be a thought without acknowledgement. Play in the space! Words are toys.
Emotions are your stakes, just as much as bodily harm is If your readers care about how your characters feel, you have a compelling tool to drive their care for the rest of the plot. It's not just bad enough that they could be physically hurt by a situation, putting them in emotional distress makes your readers distressed. This does, however, need balance. In the same way you wouldn't keep your foot on the gas in a car at all times from point A to point Z, lingering too long on one emotion when your readers are invested emotionally drains your readers. There needs to be periods of rest and happiness, to balance the periods of emotional turmoil, guilt, and apathy. If you've ever read a book and thought "Man this character is a crybaby, they never stop whining" or "this book is making me depressed. Everything keeps going wrong all the time!" the balance is skewed too far towards the sad/depressive emotions, and you are emotionally distancing yourself as a result. Something similar happens the other way, if you ever read something and feel like the characters are never in danger, or the plot isn't taking itself seriously. Everyone's tolerance for this is different, but generally speaking, adding small moments of comedy and levity to temper hardship can go a long way to keeping your characters emotionally relatable -- so many people cope with humor anyway.
Read and analyze what you like in other works For the same reason people trace a drawing when they're trying to figure out how the original artist drew it, for the same reason you first knit a pattern instead of knitting a sweater from scratch, pick up a book you love, that gets you emotionally invested in the characters, and really pick apart why you like it. Write down words or descriptions you thought hammered an idea home. Reread a scene once or twice and feel your heart squirm over it and ask yourself why? Just, sink your teeth in and analyze. It helps a lot.
And on the subject of analysis...
Have I studied any writing theory, or have I got any advice on dissecting pieces of writing for improvement?
Also kind of hard to answer! Specifically because I haven't studied much writing theory, outside of reading comprehension classes in high school that I'm 10 years removed from now. If I had to give advice, I think it would have to be from my experience which is: Read a lot and take notes.
You're correct, "practice writing" can only get you so far, in the sense that anything in a vacuum is hard to learn from. If I've only ever eaten a PB&J, it's gonna be real hard to learn how to make spaghetti. Chances are I don't even know tomatoes exist. So, read a lot, and read critically, and take notes.
When I say read critically: I mean read with your eyes open. Ask yourself "why?" as often as you can. A book makes you cry, why? Is it specific to the character? Is it because you want them to be happy or because they're going through something you've been through? A book makes you frustrated, why? Was an important plot point forgotten? Are the characters hard to understand? If so, why are they hard for you to understand? Does the author not explain their motives correctly, does it feel like you skipped a chapter? Or is it because their motives are understandable but you still think what they're doing is stupid? I recommend going back and reading your favorite book with that lens. "This is the best fight scene I've ever read!" Why? Was it important to the characters and therefore important to you? Did it wrap up a plot point well? Was it just fun watching the bad guy get beat up?
I learned how to do this first with descriptions. A few years ago I was reading Kings of the Wyld, and about halfway through the book I realized I thought Nicholas Eames was the best writer I'd ever read. That's objectively untrue, I'm sure there's some better, but it's how I felt and I wanted to know why. So I read the book again. I figured out it was because his descriptions were great. It wasn't just that I could see what was going on in my head, the descriptions told me things about the world.
"The wheat was as gold as the Summer Lord's beard." It's autumn, the wheat is ready to harvest and they have a god named the Summer Lord who is cloaked in gold. That's a lot of information packed into one sentence.
"He had learned long ago that harboring regrets was akin to stashing embers in your pockets: hopeless and bound to hurt." That says so much about the character. He has regrets, ones he's worried over so much he's learned how futile it is. And the image of someone holding onto embers because maybe they deserve that pain is poignant and relatable. We have all done something we regret.
I started writing down all the descriptions of his that I liked, picking them apart to see how they work. I like descriptors that inform you about the world, that are unique to the character, and that are rooted in the physical. I think that's successful writing, so I emulate it.
If you want to get better at writing, really study the stuff you like and ask yourself why you like it. If you can't do it in your head, if you can't just read a book and figure out what went well, write it down! It doesn't have to be a 10 page paper. Just writing "I loved X character and I think xyz reason is why" is enough to get you started. The more you practice figuring out what you like, the better you'll get at identifying and describing it. The more you know about those things, the better you can transfer it into your own work. Study can be really fun when you really dig your elbows into it.
I also think it's equally useful to do this to media you don't like. Pick a book you hate and do the same thing. Why don't you like it? Is it because you don't like the themes, or because the characters were too frustrating to relate to? Was it because the plot seemed forced? Were there plot points and ideas that seemed awesome that the author just ignored? Figure out what you don't like, what you think doesn't work, so you can figure out how to avoid it.
The thing about studying anything is: everything has rules. Learn the rules. Learn why the work [or why they don't]. That's studying.
Learning when its appropriate to follow or break them, that's writing.
This turned into a very, very long rant! Hopefully it helps :'D if not, my apologies.

Shino Platonic Sibling Relationship Headcanons
Tumblr media
𓆃 There's almost a weird distance and an unspoken closeness. In a way, Shino is almost like an upperclassman. If he's younger than you, he can almost feel like your own child.
𓆃 The Aburame are very quiet. With everyone. It's part of the clan's nature. That being said, you won't have a rambunctious relationship where you pull pranks on each other or wrestle.
𓆃 Much of your relationship will be at an arm's length which is normal for this family. Not to say that you don't care about each other, but communication is done very practically.
𓆃 It's about active listening. Most of your talking is very matter of fact and straight to the point.
𓆃 Part of this may have to do with the fact that your bugs can give you a decent sense of things that are already happening. You usually pick up news at the same time, so talking about current events in usually null given you've been in the same vicinity for a bit.
𓆃 The older generation typically trains the younger generation, but Aburame children tend to master their insect jutsu (at least control of it) at a young age. They need to to function.
𓆃 And depending on the territorial nature of your given insect species, it's typically a rule of thumb that hives shouldn't interact with each other for long periods of time.
𓆃 Shino may pass along something he's learned or you may pass something along to him, but joint training sessions aren't something that Aburame typically do because it stresses the insects.
𓆃 A younger Shino likely never needed much help when he was younger as he was always very autonomous (as is instilled in most Aburame children).
𓆃 You'll have late night talks sometimes. Always in the kitchen.
𓆃 Whether it's across from the dinner table or across the room while doing separate things, your occasional late-night discussions make up for some of the physical and emotional closeness during the day.
𓆃 You'll get into some deep discussions over tea, and Shino likes bouncing around ethical theoreticals (he doesn't like bringing them up though).
𓆃 If Shino is older, he may take you to joint trainings or out with him and his friends, but he doesn't do this often because Shino himself doesn't do these things often.
𓆃 While Shino is open to giving you guidance when needed, he believes in the values of autonomy that have been instilled in his clan. He won't hand-hold you often or supplement your training or social life, but he'll take you out when you're young.
𓆃 He will always wait until you ask him. And you need to be direct because he's not about to give you any unsolicited advice.
𓆃 These days out will become less frequent as you grow older unless you're really upset.
𓆃 "C'mon," Shino will say, throwing you your jacket whether you're ready to catch it or not. "Let's take a walk." The walk always ends in ice cream or some other sweet treat.
𓆃 Younger sibling Shino will not tell you the important dates. He's a quiet kid and doesn't talk much. Every so often, you'll miss an important event like a graduation or other shinobi event because Shino just won't tell you about them for really no reason at all.
𓆃 You and Shino will also have one (1) annual fight that will last about a week. You never remember what they're about looking back, but at least once a year you'll have a passive-aggressive fight where you fling cheap shots at each other.
𓆃 It might not be a cuddly relationship or necessarily an exciting one, but whether he's an older brother or a little brother, Shino's always got your back.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

AIGHT, INFO DUMP TIME-
This is a list of ideas/headcanons of the tfa fandom that crossed my mind, piled into one giant mess. Enjoy.
those are things that i consider canon in my works. (outside of AUs)
PLEASE READ- THE LIST KEEPS BEING UPDATED.
1. Bee has a golden voice when singing, he’s anxious about it tho. [the whole headcanon explained] After some time and events this scenario happens and Bee gets more comfortable around others.
2. Bee is basically a stuntman when skating. Casual or on battlefield, his actions are purely impulsive. Sometimes he’s lucky and pulls off that sick move... sometimes he ends up in medbay for many long hours. Here’s an example.
3. Bee is a good actor, he can lie on the spot and get away with it... most of the time. He’s also good at hiding his emotions. Fake it till you make it... or at least before Prowl comes knocking at your door.
4. Bee has 3 modes; Chaotic/Feral Gremlin, Kind Child and on rare occasion; Lazy Ferret. When he dates someone, there comes a 4th one; Lovestruck Idiot.
5. Bee is the early bird and wakes up way before the rest of the Autobots. He’s made a little routine of making the morning oil for the rest of the team. It’s the only thing he can “cook” really.
6. Sari keeps the weird healing powers the key had when she upgrades herself. Ratchet helps her figure it out and teaches her cybertronian first aid.
7. Rachet knows human curses and will use them when things are going down.
8. Sari and Bee are the young sibblings™. Prowl plays the role of the babysitter, keeping those two out of trouble.
9. Bee often vents to Prowl about topics he wouldn’t talk about with anyone. They have an unspoken agreement to never do anything to mess with the other when it comes to these meetings.
10. Prowl is accidentally creepy, he will eavesdrop or spy on someone unintentionally. He doesn’t mean it, but his curiosity can get the best of him sometimes. Here’s a list of things he eavesdropped so far.
11. Optimus is a kindsparked leader, he’ll think of the person’s wellbeing first instead of “is this okay with the law?”
12. Bulkhead sometimes helps the architects with building stuff, he likes the art aspect and the job is easy cuz he can carry like few tons of materials at once.
13. Random!Blitz will eat various things that are definitelly not meant to be eaten. Glow sticks, scraps, paint and even some organic things. He also chews on anything that he find appealing. Somehow, he has yet to end up in medbay for doing that.
14. Blitzwing likes to sculpt, he’ll carve in wood, stone, ice and metal.
15. Bee likes to set up harmless traps to mess with Prowl, his time repairing space bridges taught him how to construct things. He’s quite crafty. Unfortunatelly, Prowl still remmebers how to pull a prank in return. Here’s one of them.
16. There’s 2 versions of Megatron: cold and sadistic villain(canon) or scary but thoughful “father”(Cons Are Good AU)
17. Longarm(Shockwave) actually kinda likes Bee. The bot is optimistic, kind and funny. He likes to hang out with the scout and have some fun, but other than that he focuses on his duties as a traitor Prime.
18. Lugnut is Lugnut, he’s basically in love with Megs. Megs wants nothing to do with him except for work.
19. There’s 2 versions of Decepticons; they either want to to take over Cybertron(canon) or want equal rights and fix whatever the council has fucked up. (Cons Are Good AU)
20. Autobots and Decepticons are not separate species of transformers like i often see. They just have different builds and codings. A transformer who’s not aligned with any of the factions doesn’t have any specific behavior attached, it all depends on what they learn as a sparkling. If they choose a faction, an additional coding is added to their system which might alter their behavior slightly.
21. Since time units are very confusing in the fandom i decided to settle on this: Nanoklik (1 second), Klik (1 minute), Joor (1 hour), (Solar/Lunar)Cycle (day/night), Decacycle (week), Orbital Cycle (month), Stellar cycle (1 year). Then it all goes like normal; decades, centuries, millennia. Sometimes i will use other transformer time terms when i don’t know what else to use.
22. Ratchet, despite being a medic, dismissed his own small damages. He says he will take tare of them later but never does, which later comes back as a bigger problem. Like a trembling wheel, dimmed light or glitched comm piece. He’s learned to go fix himself when reminded about them or look for Sari.
23. Prowl has a bad habit of nightly snacking, he meditates all day long and sometimes forgets to refuel. Bad habit but he’s not really keen on stopping.
24. Shockwave/Longarm is the tech folk, the one who manages files and all, but he’s also somewhat of a medic. He knows how to patch system errors/viruses as well as fix some external damages.
25. Megatron actually remembers Optimus’ name, he just chooses to avoid using it because he has a grudge agaist the Prime for kinda offlining him.
26. Prowl doesn’t die in my timelines/AUs. Nor does Blurr. Nobody does(permanently). I just can’t let them.
27. Claws and sharp dentae are a basic upgrade you get when becoming Decepticon. Based on the frame type, there are few exceptions, example: Blitzwing has both sharp teeth and claws, but Lugnut has only sharp teeth cuz his servos are not compatible with the claws. Same with Shockwave but he's only got claws.
28. Bee was raised in the orphanage, he never brought it up to anyone. The only one to know might be the one he’d date. [See this post but exclude the adoption part]
29. Since Shockwave has 2 forms, he has something similar to Blitzwing’s multiple personalities thing- it’s not that intense, but there is a weird switch in his mind that he can activate on command. He is more laid back and cheery when he’s Longarm. When he’s Shockwave he’s very calm and focused- It’s his peak performance form, so to say. A weird thing that happens with Longarm is that he’ll be focused and calm with everyone but the second he, Bee and Bulkhead are alone- it’s time for wild fun.
30. Everyone thinks Random is the cannibal. He’s not, Icy is the one enjoying devouring a fellow mech. He keeps quiet about it, Random is just hyping it up like he usually does with everything.
31. Blackarachnia may be a mad scientist but she would help someone out if they begged her enough. She’d do everything to fix a bot- but then use them for her own goals. Every “transaction” you make with her will have the consequences... well, unless she’s “feeling generous”- which is like a miracle and you’ve probably made her feel bad if she does this.
32. Bumblebee loves to dress up. He loves human clothes, he loves cosmetic upgrades, he liked the temporary paint that is make up. He’ll never admit or show it though. He feels like if he does, he’s gonna be judged and everyone’s gonna stop liking him. Dressing up makes him feel like he’s truly pretty and amazing. He doesn’t want that feeling crushed if others find it weird and tell him to stop. Idk if “Drag Queen” is the correct term for this but he defo likes dresses and painted details like make up.
33. Bee dresses up for Halloween with Sari. Despite what i said in the previous point, he allows himself to dress up in cool costumes- usually the classics like a vampire or ghost. Never anything cute tho- those costumes are saved for his time alone. One time he made himself look like the haunted black taxi from that one movie- Optimus was on patrol and heard about some shady car scaring people so he went to check it out. Poor Bee tried to scare him too and got send to medbay. Optimus apologized for two days after that incident.
34. Bee has a job that earns him human money- in some weird chain of events he met a guy with a shop that sells old and damaged stuff. He offered to pay Bee money to bring him old stuff from garbage yards/trash stations that may be restored and sold. So now he has a fun and productive way of earning money to buy new games. He goes treasure hunting at least once a week.
35. Bee is really flexible and can basically squeeze anywhere he desires. No one knows how he does it and he constantly gets stuck in weird places. You wouldn’t think he’d fit into that heavy duty airvent, but alas, he’s there waiting for help.
36. Bumblebee and Prowl are almost the same height; motorbikes are small, even when compared to tiny cars. Prowl is only few inches taller than Bee. He is very thin in build, Bee is more bulky and wide. Bee is also physically stronger than Prowl- Prowl is always using tactics and momentum and physics and such to gain advantage over stronger enemies.
37. Bee is a natural climber- being the short bot, it’s obvious he has to climb to reach that shelf. His servos have rough pads on them to help him stick to sufaces better. It’s especially effective with earth’s buildings since they’re made of rough concrete.
38. Bee naps in riduculous places, he’s like a ferret. He’ll squeeze or climb into places and sometimes get stuck there so others have to get him out. His favorite places to nap are Bulkheads subspace and under his berth.
39. Bee will learn anything about any game just to win. He has a self-claimed title “Game King”. One time he found out about Prowl liking chess- he spend the next few cycles on research and perfecting his skill with online chess. The “Game King” title has been made valid by everyone after Prowl got obliterated in chess by Bee.
40. Prowl has to temporarily move out of his room in winter because there is no roof. He has a back-up room for when the snow starts piling up and he can’t recharge in it. He also has to recharge in the back-up room when there is a heavy downpour and his room floods.
41. Each Team Prime member has their own love language/way fo showing affection/care. [Here i listed them]
42. At some point in the story, Bee and Bulkhead would become Amicas. Not Conjunxes(spouses)- they are Amicas(long-term best friend). [this and this]
43. I imagine Bumblebee would be a great parent- sure he’s reckless most of the time but when it comes to Sparklings- something in his mind switches and he goes full ‘Mama Bear mode’. [exaples: this and this]
44. Optimus is a great cook, he especially loves to bake. Bee is into mixology- he makes morning oil for everyone after all. Prowl cooks with organic ingredients for Sari, he wants her to eat more healthy so he takes it upon himself to make sure she does. [anker post]
45. Bee loves racing, in AU or not. He’ll go up to anyone and challange them to a race. The winner gets the respect of being faster. Blitzwing is Bee’s go-to race rival, they have fun together and mess around on some occasion. [anker post]
46. Bee got crayons from Bulkhead. Sometimes he will draw things- he drew a picture for their first christmas and everyone loves it, it’s hanging in the main room now.
47. Here you have Halloween and Christmas traditions with the group cuz i’m too lazy to write an entire point for it.
48. IMPORTANT FOR ALL NSFW WORKS: Interfacing and Sparklings. My version is different from the ususal sexual spike/valve thing. C’mon they’re ALIENS. I have it all written out in this post.
49: Bumblebee, Sari and Bulkhead are The Gamer Trio. They always play multiplayer games together when they’re not busy. Sometimes Prowl joins them for specific games. [anker post]
50. Team Prime + Sari have preffered food flavors n such. [anker post]
51. Team Prime + Sari having trouble sleeping/recharging and doing stuff instead of that. Nightly habits list. [anker post]
52. Bee has ADHD, you can’t convince me otherwise. He has also been diagnosed with depression later on. Oh, also Prowl is on autism spectrum. Dw, they take meds for that. [adhd+autism post here, Bee having depression here]
53. Bee talks in his sleep. It’s easy to tell if he’s having a nightmare or not. He’s just murmuring what is happening in his dream, not every night but surprisingly often. Funny enough you could have a conversation with him like this. [anker post]
54. Ratchet volunteers as medical assistance in Detroit. The messed up USA healthcare system is beyond what Cybertron had.
if there’s more i come up with, i will update this post. thank you for reading this text wall.

It's not really a new thought for me because I've considered it for Elucien but now I'm wondering we'll see the same for Gwynriel.
SJM doesn't really do massive time jumps once she gets her series rolling. There was 2 months between the ending of ACOWAR and ACOMAF. Another 1 -2 months between the ending of ACOMAF and ACOWAR. Maybe 4 months between ACOWAR and the novella.
And yes, SF picked up about 9 months after that but....SF was the introduction of the spin-offs that (while following individual pairings) are connected to an overarching theme. It was the book that started the current events.
When SJM introduces the possibility of a brewing war, she moves quickly. It's something we saw in TOG and ACOTAR (what with Rhys mentioning a war at the start of MAF and the war occurring about 10 months later in WAR.
The crossover takes place 6 - 9 months after SF and we'll be adding on to that timeline (depending on how long Bryce is in Prythian).
Does it make sense that this:
With a new war possible and Briallyn up to her bullshit with Koschei, we need a strong ally. We need the Spring Court's forces
Or this:
My father went to the continent again last week. / He did not invite me to accompany him. / I can only assume the fallout is approaching.
Or this:
But you and yours have more important things to think about than ancient history. My father is furious that his ally is dead, but he's not deterred. Koschei remains in play, and Beron might very well be stupid enough to establish an alliance with him too. I hope that whatever Morrigan is doing in Vallahan will counteract the damage my father will unleash.
Or this:
Tell my Vassa I'm waiting.
Or this:
Gwyn, despite the Rite, had returned to living in the library.
Or this:
So they would keep training, until they were all well and truly Valkryies.
Or this:
"The Illyrians are going to be furious about our winning, you know."
Have all just ceased to be important in 6-9 months? The bad guys don't just sit around waiting for the good guys to relax and enjoy life for a bit before pursing their evil deeds (also I just cannot imagine another awkward Solstice, especially for Elucien) 😂
Maybe the vibe I picked up in the crossover is wrong but the IC seems fairly relaxed for a group of people worrying about an upcoming war. Feyre arrived in painting clothes, Rhys had his smirky High Lord persona going on, Nesta was all but smacking Cassian up over the head.
I realize I'm reading into a few paragraphs but I'd think if Bryce had arrived in Prythian while everyone was really concerned about Koschei, Spring, etc., the IC wouldn't be in the right frame of mind to deal with her in CC3 or they'll come off a bit frazzled, wrapped up in their own problems that they have within their own world. Not to mention it is a bit of overkill in terms of things for them to worry about (adding the possibility of new villains being able to enter their world when they're already dealing with unrest in the continent, the courts, the human lands and issues with Beron and Koschei is excessive).
(I cannot stop imaging the spin offs to Captain America Civil War and the crossover to Avengers Infinity War / Endgame)
But what if CC2/CC3 is set in the future for all the characters, AFTER the ACOTAR spin-off series is complete? What if the crossover and the signing of the new books is SJM telling us where she's going AFTER the Elucien and Gwynriel books?
What if SJM will now be writing the next 2 ACOTAR books in the timeframe that exists between SF and CC2/CC3 and neither of them will actually mention the events of CC? (since Elucien and Gwynriels journey's deal with very different things, they could easily run on parallel timelines, things happening within the NC and things happening in Spring / on the continent).
I could see Elucien and Gwynriel having their romantic arcs where they deal with Koschei, the Illyrians, the treaty, Spring, yada yada, and where they put a stop to the civil war setup before it happens. Where by the end, all the characters are happily living their best lives with their partners only for SJM to introduce the real threat heading their way, and those books would feature multiple character POVs.
I think the crossover stuff is going to be too big a deal for us to read about it in someones romantic arc and I think if the Asteri do try to make it to Prythian, it's going to involve all the courts, human lands, continent (and therefore more POVs than the ones an Elucien or Gwynriel's books will provide). Can you imagine a book after the spin-off series that features everyone: Feysand POVs, Elucien POVs, a Helion POV, Nessian and Gwynriel POVs, an Eris POV, a Mor POV?
To me, the spin-offs don't feel like SJM is building up to one couple being the big closer. I have a hard time imagining Elain and Lucien getting the grand finale but that's because I don't think any of these romantic pairings seem to rise above the other, that any single couple should get the big end scene especially not in the book where it's centered around their romance (Feysand got together in book 2 with the war in book 3). It's almost like it's a chess game and SJM is getting her pieces into position. Nessian as the generals of the Illyrians and female fighting units. Whatever roles Gwynriel will step into, and Elucien as the leaders of (Spring)?
And once those pieces are in position, then they can all join together for a reason that unifies them all.
There was a fire burning in the townhome at the end of CC2, a place that is supposed to be sitting vacant. What if Gwynriel is already living there? What if Elain wasn't mentioned because she's already in Spring / Day with Lucien?
I don't believe CC3 would spoil anything if that were the case, I don't think we're going to have any real idea of who is with who romantically aside from the already established couples.
If Elain shows up in the crossover, still living with Rhys and Feyre than it shuts down this theory all together. But if she doesn't make an appearance or is casually mentioned as being elsewhere, it could be hinting that she is with Lucien already.
And yes, SF ended where Elain and Lucien weren't interacting and Az was obviously not completely over mor but MAF started with Feyre engaged to and in love with Tamlin, only to end up as High Lady of the NC and in love with, mated to Rhys within 6 months. Based on SJMs writing style, if CC picks up 6-9 months after SF, that does given both Elain / Lucien and Az / Gwyn time to have their character and romantic arcs especially if they're running on a parallel timeline.

Game development Trembling Essence update:
Tumblr media
Hello guys and welcome new followers! I have another update to share! I also would like to make it be known that since it's officially spooky month, updates about the game might be shorter and/or a bit scattered around so I can't guarantee they'll be weekly. :]
Anywho, I wanted to give myself a break from the other route I was working on last week to focus on some other things within the game starting off with a fairly large change to a ending/path!
Tumblr media
Back in April/May, It was originally planned to be a ending you could get depending on how you interacted with Noah but, it was too similar to something I had already written. I then got an idea and turned it into a very long and extended situation you could get in Day 3 that would lead alllll the way into Day 5(+?).
I put a pause on it and went back to writing everything else because I didn't want to get too far ahead. When I came back to it I realized it had a good amount of spoilers that got thrown way too early at (Y/N)the player just on Day 3 and it ruined the flow I was trying to go for. I didn't get rid of it and instead, moved it somewhere else and placed it later into the game.
The path now leads back to an ending I settled on that I think really nails the whole survival thing and what would actually happen! I don't have any CG's to show for it right now but hopefully in the next update post it'll be done! :,]
Speaking of endings, another one also got adjusted! You could get it if you picked a specific choice and had a certain amount of closeness with Noah. When I was testing things, I found a unique variable you could get that would still let you continue into Day 4 when you technically weren't suppose to and I couldn't write anything to make it fit without messing up the flow of the other variables that were already in place. Now you'll automatically get this ending depending on how you go about playing! Here's a preview of it!
Tumblr media
Lastly, I got to working on a different route I had already finished up and added a few more choices for you to make.
The beginning of it was fairly empty and I wanted to give it more life since there was more reading than actual decisions. Nothing was too outdated or anything but some parts really needed better transparency so I went and fixed up certain sections.
For example, some of Noah's and/or (Y/N)the player's reactions to certain situations didn't make enough sense to me so hopefully that shouldn't be a issue anymore! It also really helped me get a better idea of how I wanted a event to play out easier for me. :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I let my play tester see the revised version and I explained what all was changed/fixed after they went through certain parts.
One thing they mentioned that really stuck out to me was a specific part that they suggested to be done 'in the dark' and that there should be some CG's shown for when you make certain decisions instead of just seeing the window CG. I went and made some adjustments and overall, I think it adds a lot more to the stealth and suspense I was trying to go for! :]
With that being said I think that just about covers everything! Thank you guys very much for all your support and interest in what I'm working on, I wholeheartedly appreciate the encouragement! Also happy spooky month! :,]

For Étoile/Astarion please:
🍰 What is 'their song'? Officially or unofficially.
🩷 What is the sweetest thing they've done for one another?
🤎 How do they comfort each other?
💋 What is their favorite place to kiss their partner? Do either enjoy 'leaving a mark'?
For Étoile/Halsin please:
🩷 What is the sweetest thing they've done for one another?
🤎 How do they comfort each other?
♪(^∇^*) Thank you for the ask!
Étoile and Astarion
🍰 I'm not sure what officially and unofficially might mean in this context.
A song from their playlist which I wouldn't give them awareness of even in modern fic is Hot Tea by half-alive. Sharing a lyric video because the official video of the song is weird and I am not a fan of the interpretative dance in it fdhtdfghgdf :
youtube
A song I'd be willing to give them awareness of in a modern setting is Wicked Game by Chris Isaak which I'm inspired to take off of Neil's Astarion playlist. It has very strong vibes of one of the last songs played at an event where people are inebriated and tired, swaying slowly; or could just be something that Astarion turns off on a radio for being a little too on the nose; or fits the mood of an intimate scene like the love scene in Dirty Dancing to me. Anyway:
youtube
🩷 <- I can copy and paste this but I can't see this emoji, whatever it is.
I suppose it depends on your definition of sweet, because I imagine I could think up some gifts and surprises, recollections and whatever else. Instead, I'll pick pivotal moments of "sweetness," which I think if I remember right I told some various friends on discord but aren't exactly me repeating myself here.
Raphael's pronouncement of victory is something I hope to one day explore in fic for Étoile. Initially I'd speculated that it could have happened even the very same night as the long rest after the netherbrain, with Astarion's last scene before the credits. But now there's the epilogue and to honour something like it, that means it's at least six months later — I'll probably place it nearer 2 years post-canon, with Raphael's intended return 10 years post-canon.
Étoile's anxiety loses some of it's bite this way, but to re-iterate. They (are and) feel so responsible, and they feel that as a result of this that they are and will be so alone in having to sound out a solution and / or battle plan to face Raphael. They expect that if a solution can be found that this time stopping the person who wields the Crown will demand their life. They won't be able to picture the vampire spawn's recent, precarious alliance, living situation, lifestyle, can handle both their and Astarion's sudden departure. They imagine themself hindered in travel and resources trying to come up with an answer, and Astarion being unable to follow, whether across the Material Plane or at least into Baator, where they don't even know if there's a night-day cycle or whether the fires that burn are ones that a vampire could stand in the presence of. If it's hard for them to admit to all this other shame, it's easy for them to be vulnerable in conversation with Astarion about how they wanted this life with him, with his their people, and how after a few hundred years if it hadn't come up that they would have asked if he'd wanted to turn them, which is as much as a commitment as either of them could make.
Anyway, it's sweet of Astarion to hold back an "I told you so" for more than a week, to reassure Étoile that their people will be fine with the pair of them coming and going because they will have to be, among any other number of reassurances he makes. It is sweet of him to recognize that he could take this as a cue to step away from "an adventurer's" problems (with all the problems of community, politics, lifestyle and "inheritance" that he has had to deal with since the end of the Gate's last disaster) and away from all semblance of "commitment" that had been so alien and chafing and frightful and difficult in this relationship; and instead decide that even this impossible challenge and all the other problems were perhaps just as rewarding (if not moreso) than the domestic rewards — never as an elf nor as a vampire had he ever wanted an unremarkable life.
For Étoile's moment of sweetness, I may have spoken before about how I have dialogue for a "mirror scene" blocked out. I waffle on whether it'll get written not just because I have so many wips, but also because I worry Everyone who writes Astarion has written a mirror scene and so I worry I bring little new to the table. Even so, my mirror scene has Astarion's final moment of "Just tell me I'm beautiful and we can call it a day" result in anger. Astarion whining, exasperated, "It doesn't feel good. Why doesn't it feel good? Is it because I asked?" And this resulting in an extra conversation in the shadow-cursed lands before the hug scene, where part of my blocked dialogue includes the following; they are laying spooned together:
Astarion: [after a breath] When you called me beautiful … it was the first time in two hundred years that it wasn't said by a victim or someone … looking to take advantage. Whose words meant nothing and were … an expectation. Part of a process. An undignified one. It was the first time in two hundred years the word wasn't Cazador's. To call me beautiful while I was flayed open, or bleeding from the mouth, or— [he tenses, not quite ready to cry. Étoile squeezes and slowly takes his hand] Étoile: Your body is your own. [They bring his fingers to their lips for a kiss, Astarion chooses to follow the movement to face them] My words are mine. I don't want to make you feel like that. Astarion: I know. Étoile: [Releases Astarion's hand to put their hand on his chest] I'm glad you know. I want to say these things anyway. [Astarion strokes back some of their hair] I want you to hear them.
And how this scene would fucking fly to the forefront of Étoile's mind in addition to their moments of sexual intimacy during the hug scene. They would have the knee-jerk reaction of those moments having been all lies, of themself and their body being revolting to Astarion for an unknown how-long, until it's more obvious to them that Astarion's point is that these moments weren't as repulsive as they should've been, and far more sincere than he could have stomached without coming forward. It is these moments of communication and respect which endear Astarion to Étoile and earn his shaky trust.
Also shout out to Astarion for being "sweet" enough to travel across four countries with Étoile for them to see their home (and their mother?) one last time with living eyes before vampirism. (Even knowing this was going to be difficult as all hell if Aranea's still living on her mountain.)
🤎 While this is kind of answered in the last emoji, I feel like this is extremely conditional. Étoile needing to be comforted in grief is not the same as them needing to be comforted after being slighted publicly. Astarion needing to be comforted because of the oppressive weight of days of earth overhead in the Underdark is not the same as needing to be comforted because one of his siblings (Violet) trying to kill one another (Yousen). Sometimes it's an embrace and conversation, sometimes it's threatening to eviscerate one's enemies (sometimes it's following through). A lot of the time for them it's space and an invitation of their presence, whether that's a cup of tea or distraction like paperwork / letters / a reminder of life outside of what ails them.
💋 Étoile far prefers to be marked than doing the marking, but that doesn't mean their lovers don't end up with the occasional fading signs of intimacy. Their own most obvious such marks are more permanent even before vampirism anyway, and all from Astarion; scars of bites, technically sources of feeding but also signs of play, on the right side of their neck, on their left breast up close to their breast plate / center of their chest, on the inside of their left thigh. Indicative of Astarion enjoying where he can, or could once pre-vampirism, feel the pulse under their skin loudest. Other such bites didn't scar, and others still were not for feeding and healed even more swiftly. Étoile would say their favorite place to kiss Astarion is his mouth, both for the pleasure of his lips and the danger of his teeth; if needing to select somewhere "more interesting" then in public they'd say at the center of his brow, and in private they'd still flush in embarrassment about how they think it's somehow rude to choose his ass.
Étoile and Halsin
🩷 The sweetest thing Halsin does for Étoile (and Astarion), besides keep them in his heart, is construct an underground shelter (the first of many) in his Moonrise Village to alleviate the burden of the far more numerous population in their care, even by a few bodies, even temporarily.
I repeat myself a lot, but I think Étoile's sweetest gesture to Halsin is near the end of his long life, counselling on what an unlife could be, offering to turn him either within the laws and context of their vampire community or secretly otherwise, with reassurance that they would happily accept him into their home if all beasts and men turned from him as a decree from his Oakfather for the abberation of vampirism, and the sentiment "if I meet you in hell then it's not hell."
Prior to that I think a visit from Étoile (and Astarion) to Halsin's Moonrise Village: an appointment kept despite how others in the Village might be absent on their own adventures or lost to time, would be the sweetest thing in Halsin's biased opinion. Six days travel (twelve both ways) just to see him? Not for healing, nor counsel, nor to take on more people or projects of druidic magic or infrastructure. Not a plight of adventure, not a disappointment for it being just him. Just a visit, to share his company and whatever that entails; when they could have just stayed home, rescheduled until others returned and the visit felt of greater worth.
🤎 I stand by comfort being highly conditional, but I do think Halsin is far more susceptible to words of comfort. Étoile talks to Halsin in the context of faith, while theirs is for Auril and his is for Silvanus. It helps. Étoile is comforted by how earnest Halsin is; he was very critical when they first met, and remains just as free with his criticisms when people lose his respect. There are oceans of time between the moments of Halsin's impatience with Étoile, and there were times where he was more forgiving than he should've been because scenarios were simply beyond his ability to distinguish the kindest path (like with the Crown and Raphael). But even so, Étoile is reassured when Halsin offers comfort or advice, trusting that he would still be straightforward if their grief or embarrassment or frustration was otherwise unworthy of them.

I really like your Stranger Things AU with Vance! I'd like to learn more. Do you have any headcanons on how Vance adjusts to Hawkins and what his relationship would be like with the Party?
First off, I am so sorry taking so long to respond, I’ve had finals and been trying to catch up on missing work before the end of the semester.
And second, oh, I very much do, but it depends mainly on timeline because like I said Vance moving to Hawkins would be after escaping the Grabber, and while I have thought to myself that the move taking place between 1983 and 1984 would be easiest as the chaos of season 1 might be a little too much for Vance who would just be recovering from his own disappearance and kidnapping (although I also think he’d be part of the reason Jim would start to take the Will Byers case seriously since everyone also probably thought Vance was just skipping school or causing trouble before realizing he’d been gone too long, except no one really cared beyond the first few weeks that Vance was gone because he was a constant trouble-maker), and it might be better to place him in a calmer where the worst has more or less blown over, but the timeline is also pretty important.
I mostly, in my head, place him in Hawkins around season 2 in 1984 both because of the former reason and because I just think it’d be hilarious to see the utter confusion of being dropped smack in the aftermath while knowing nothing of what went on before. Like, Jim trying to explain El away when Vance can see straight through his bs because he knows damn well this strange girl did not pop up out of nowhere, and since when was his dad the type of guy to move to a cabin in the middle of the woods. Where there’s no one or anything in sight for at least a good, long walk. And if he’d adopted El, why are there no records anywhere in the cabin, why does she have the vocabulary and knowledge of a child half her age, since when did he have the time or mindset in between being a recovering alcoholic and a cop who was too busy and gone half the day to pay attention to his only other child? Why can’t she go outside but Vance can as long as he’s back before curfew, why can’t she be seen by anyone to the point that the blinds need to always be closed?
Still, let’s drop him in season 1 for the hell of it, which would mean him moving to Hawkins within 1983 just before the events of Stranger Things, making him kidnapped in 1982. He might have been found maybe a month or two prior at most, spent a while in the hospital (he was down in the basement for months and judging from the conditions we see in the movie, he was probably malnourished, dehydrated, not to mention all the injuries he might have gotten from the beatings and if any of them got infected), and I’ll try my best to organize my thoughts
For context, after Sarah’s death, we know Diane and Jim divorced a year later, after which Hopper moved back to Hawkins, Diane moved with Vance to Denver from New York, and it's known Hopper did not take his family breaking apart well.
Speaking from personal experience, when a parent is grieving the loss of one child, they can be so lost in their own downspiraling mental health, they can start neglecting their remaining one, and losing custody and the now physical distance between them didn't help matters since back then, all they had to communicate long distance was phone and letters.
There was also a bit of guilt there since Hopper had thought himself responsible in a way for Sarah's death and thought he might mess up with Vance too, so he distanced himself emotionally as well.
So for a long while, Jim was kind of an absent father and hasn't seen Vance in person since he was ten. He was starting to come back into his life three years later, around the same time Vance went missing.
That was essentially Jim's wake up call rather than the Byers case, to realize he could have just lost his son, too, not knowing what happened to him until he was found a year later having been kept captive the entire time.
When Hopper found out, he dropped everything to get to the hospital Vance was staying, but Vance himself had pretty complicated feelings, because on one hand, his dad being there as a familiar face in the wake of a very traumatizing event and the unfamiliar people of the hospital where everyone is touching (and he does not want them touching him), poking and prodding him, but on the other, it took him nearly dying for his dad to actually come see him, so....pros and cons.
Hopper and Diane did talk about him wanting to be back in Vance’s life, trying to get sober, and wanting a chance to be there for him, and that maybe getting away from the place of trauma might help Vance out mentally, make him feel more safe to not be reminded of the events everywhere when people were still talking about it and his face is in all the papers, and Hawkins was quiet and isolated where everyone knows everyone and nothing ever happens.
Vance was not happy once he got out the hospital. He did not want to leave Denver, he did not want to leave the familiarity of his home after just coming back, he did not want to leave his friends who were the only ones he felt could understand what he went through since they went through the same thing, he did not want or like anymore abrupt changes in his life.
Part of the only reason he even agreed to move in with his dad was because both his parents insisted on it and he didn’t want to argue with his mom.
The other part was because he started to feel like she just didn’t want him around, much like before he even got kidnapped, especially seeing her with her new family, his stepsister and stepfather, and that he always felt like she didn’t try all that much to find him while he was gone.
That was not exactly the case, Diane was doing the best with what she had, but parents aren’t perfect and as much as they loved each other, their relationship did become strained with him distancing himself from her as he got older and her being busy taking care of a new baby.
Jim had bought Vance a Walkman he'd planned to give him on his 14th birthday (it was supposed to be the first birthday they spent together since the divorce, so it was supposed to make up for all the ones he missed), but instead gave him in the hospital after the police found him. He still remembers how loud music usually calmed Vance as a kid and figured it might help now.
Despite not being all that receptive towards Jim, he takes good care of it and takes it everywhere he could for when he was feeling stressed.
Also, the mental image I have of Vance staring Jim dead in the eye as he puts on his headphones mid-lecture to show just how done he is with their conversations when he doesn't feel like fighting.
Jim genuinely did think that Hawkins would help because it’s a small, sleepy town where nothing ever happens and no one’s going to really know him beyond the chief’s son which is better than being gawked at for escaping a serial child kidnapper everywhere you go, and while that can get boring, maybe after what happened, “boring” might be best since at least in “boring,” it’s safe because nothing ever happens.
Point at the irony and laugh.
I said in my last post of this au that Vance does not like new stuff, and this is no exception, he does not like having to get used to the cabin, the  smells and new textures and having to ask where everything is, he does not like looking outside and just seeing trees upon trees upon trees, needing rides to town, not knowing where to go when he’s in town (just overall having to rely on Jim for everything in an unfamiliar place, he hates it)
Considering the last time he talked to a stranger, he got grabbed, and as much as he’d never admit it to anyone (he doesn’t really have to since Hopper can see it in how Vance asks him to drive him places at first with how Vance wants nothing to do with him if he can help it--so if he’s willing to put up with being in a car with him for some sense of security, that means something), he doesn’t feel safe anymore walking alone where there’s not many people, which does lead to him being more aggressive and off-putting with strangers as a way to feel so.
He was canonical held back, but it was in elementary school, so he'd be in the eighth grade rather than the high school, which actually would give a good opportunity to meet the Party even if he's still a grade above them.
He mostly keeps to himself, and he spends most of his time outside of school (and sometimes skipping class), at the arcade after Jim showed him where it was, for the closest thing he can find to his pinball machine back home.
He’s both not as violent and yet worse at the same time, like he won’t fuck with you if you don’t fuck with him, but if you fuck with him in even the slightest way (touch him on bad days, mess with his music, mess with his game, accidentally or otherwise when he doesn’t know you), he will try to end you.
It ends him in jail a lot, Jim has to bail him out every time if he's not the one himself escorting him to the station (he just drops him off at home), sometimes vouch for him to his coworkers that "he's going through a tough time" and if you see him running from the cops, he's not running from the law, he's running from getting grounded.
Calls and writes his friends back home every chance he gets, mostly about updates and t complain how much Hawkins sucks.
Small detail but Vance can't drink soda anymore, he never liked the fizz and would usually wait for it to go flat, but after returning, all soda now reminds him of Sprite and Sprite reminds him of the Basement.
He also mostly cooks for himself and Jim because while he always was a picky eater, after what happened, he won't accept food from other people unless he can watch it being made, and he refuses to go anywhere where the door can be locked from the outside.
Altogether, this does give him a bit of a reputation for being a violent asshole who gets away with everything because his dad's the police chief.
Hopper did threaten once to call his mom in a fight, Vance retaliated by threatening to tell her about the anti-anxiety pills he found in Hopper’s room while exploring.
Oh, the fights, have you ever tried to raise a young version of yourself that's just as a stubborn, angry, and prone to violence as you once were but twice as bad? That's what Hopper’s going through, and while he is trying to be patient because he knows Vance isn't in the best place and he kinda does deserve some of his ire, Jim has considered putting the boy's head through a wall more than once.
Now, onto the actual Disappearance of Will Byers and relationship with the Party
The Party initially thought he was just another bully and steered clear of him up until Will disappeared.
A lot of people think Vance is older than he is, like sixteen, seventeen, but in reality, he just had a growth spurt when he was, like, twelve.
I like to headcanon because of how good he is at pinball and Sarah's fascination with space when she was alive, Vance is actually pretty good at math and science if it's put into a way he understands, and while he is a grade above them, I like to think the Party's teacher would be someone who could do that even with Vance's unease around adults. Like, he just seems like a fun, laid back teacher who cares about his students.
Hopper is trying to kick his worse habits in season 1 this time since he's trying to gain Vance's trust and prove to both his ex-wife and himself that he can be a competent parent, so s1 Jim Hopper might be a bit more serious in this au.
Like his personal storyline in this au in between searching for Will wouldn't just be being reminded of his grief but also reconnecting with his estranged son, like he and Vance would both get flashbacks throughout the season of their respective traumas.
I can't remember what happened to the Byers' dog, but I'm going to use it as a way to insert Vance into the plot since I mentioned in one of my last posts, Vance loves animals.
The night Will went missing, the dog ran away once the Demogorgon disappeared. Vance found it the next morning on his way to school and skipped class to take it to the cabin for a bit, so he didn't know anyone was searching for Will until later that day when the dog led him to where the police found Will's bike.
That's how Vance officially met the Byers, when he went to return the dog, and he mostly kept coming back to see or offer to walk him. Joyce does try to talk to him sometimes since she doesn't want to be rude and she somewhat remembers him since Vance would have been 2 when the Hoppers moved out of Hawkins.
While Vance probably would try to avoid stuff about the Will Byers case because of the memories it dredges up, I do like to think of him trying to comfort Joyce once when he could see her struggling. He's not good at it but it's thought that counts.
With the stuff with the phone, maybe he overhears it or sees it one time while he's over, he remembers the phone in the Basement. How it kept ringing all those times before Finney got there, and all he and the other boys would hear was static when they picked it up, but Finn claimed to hear voices of the Grabber's past victims.
It'd have some bad implications on Vance's end and maybe he might bring it up to Hopper that maybe Joyce wasn't going crazy, but since he's still in his denial phase, Hopper would probably just tell Vance that they were going through a stressful time and made up whatever it took to cope.
That's all I've got for right now, but I'll try to get back later after rewatching some stuff.

How far ahead of time do devs usually know a live service is winding down / ending? Does a scheduled server shutdown get announced to a team the same time as it is to journalists or are devs given a meaningful amount of advanced notice.
It depends on the circumstances of the shutdown. There are generally two major reasons for shutdown:
The company itself is in severe financial trouble, not just the game.
The company is fine, but the game is not.
Tumblr media
If the company is in severe financial trouble, it is generally a surprise to the dev team. Examples might include the company running out of funding and being unable to pay their bills like what happened to Telltale Games, or the licensor yanking the license for the game like what happened to Gazillion. It's a lot like getting the rug pulled out from under you in those situations, it's a huge surprise and we often end up falling on our asses. In these circumstances the dev team doesn't generally get too much time to think about the game's shutting down because they've most likely also just lost their jobs. If I just lost my job, the game I am no longer employed to work on would not be on top my priorities.
Tumblr media
If the company is fine but the game is not, we generally have much more warning. Most of us will already know that the end is near even before the announcement from the executives - we watch the numbers and finances as they come in, so we have a pretty good idea of whether the game is performing below targets. When the decision to pull the plug is made, we're usually given the news weeks or even months in advance. Because it's a live service, the game usually has finished or almost-finished content that's queued up to launch soon. That content will usually still get launched, even after the decision to end service. It's all of the content after that - the stuff that's still incomplete - that gets scrapped because there's no additional funding to finish it out. When the decision to shut down Anthem came down, the developers knew months before the news was made public.
Tumblr media
Most of the dev team transitions off of a zombie live service game immediately after the announcement. They either get laid off or moved to other projects that have room for additional headcount. A skeleton crew usually remains that get tasked to build out and execute the plan to sunset the game. These game sunset plans include pushing the final content updates to the live game, setting up the in-game scheduled events until the shutdown, setting up and carrying out the refund policy, shutting down the in-game cash shop and microtransactions, shutting down new account creation, automating/removing customer service features, giving out any freebies to the remaining players, and so on. After this work is done, the remaining devs move to other projects and the game is essentially left to run itself until the day of reckoning arrives and things go offline for the last time.

currently working on an OtM horror hack where you're having to protect your town from a Supernatural Miasma that's started to descend over it, and you have to do various things each in-game week/month/etc to keep it from getting worse; setting up defenses, building relationships, finding items, fighting off miasma encounters, clearing dungeons, and so on.
if you meet your base quota for miasma fought off by the end of each period, things stay as they are; if you meet an extra quota, they'll improve by one level; if you fail to meet your base quota, they get worse by one level. the higher your town's miasma level, the harder it is to keep locations, homes, and neighbors safe, the more unique and dangerous twists and events you're going to start seeing, and the more fucked up stuff is going to start happening in general. You Want to Keep Shit Under Control, is what i'm saying.
the thing is that it's supposed to be a horror hack. if you're playing the game with the sole aim, strategy-wise, of avoiding the horror elements as much as possible, that means that if you're doing well you're going to miss out on those horror elements when they're half the fun of the game.
a lot of horror games handle this by just making it nigh if not outright impossible to succeed at what you're doing, which is valid if people want to play that way, and there are some brilliant games that follow that design philosophy, but i think for a lot of people that just... isn't fun. failing over and over can be discouraging on its own regardless of other factors, and lack of player agency and ability to use skill to influence the outcome can leave people feeling like there's no actual point to playing. one person's poignant reflection on futility, tragedy, and struggle and perseverance for its own sake is another person's 'well fuck me for trying i guess, god damn.' there's a reason fromsoft games, fear and hunger, and super meat boy among others are (or were) wildly popular masterpieces while not by a long shot being for everyone.
other horror rpgs handle this by making success a lot more feasible--with or without strategy or skill--with the caveat that no matter what you do you will be deep in the horror, it's just a matter of whether you make it out alive. those are a ton of fun and tend to be a lot more up my alley, but that approach doesn't work super well for a game where, again, success means avoiding the horror elements. and even moreso when successes in those games tend to solely involve ramping up the risks, when a lot of the successes the player is aiming for in this hack mitigate the risks.
depending on how the balancing works out and what the player chooses, you might end up with a town that self-sustains at the minimum level of miasma with very little effort on your part. you're left without any real reason to dip back into the horror elements except 'ehhh might as well just not bother with actually, y'know, playing the game until things have gone to shit enough to be interesting. 🤷‍♂️' which might be fun for some people, but others... not so much. especially when that method involves actively distancing yourself from engaging with the game. i want to encourage players to interact and have fun, not make them sit back and disconnect.
so.... hm. right now i'm thinking i'm going to try to encourage getting into the horror elements of this hack by:
option to raise the difficulty, so the player can experience higher levels of miasma through plain old success or failure.
gain certain advantages by intentionally increasing the town's miasma.
certain quests, events, equipment, dungeons, and so on can only be found at certain levels of miasma; possibly neighbors who you've failed to protect might have to be rescued from the level they're lost in before you can get them back.
anyway i've been having a lot of fun with this hack so far, and it's been giving me a lot of things to consider. watch this space etc

bound, ghost, heartbreak, wound for riya, meredith and jorina!
3 years late but finally found the brain power to ramble some things down xx // oc asks: not-so-nice edition
bound: Has your OC ever been imprisoned or captured? What happened? How did they get out? Did the experience leave any scars?
RIYA — been jailed twice, much to her (and her family’s) horror. first time she was arrested came after being framed for the murder of her lover and it involved a frankly obscene amount of drama. she escaped with the help of her family, surely a great deal of planning went into the break but she only got to see the end result of her father and eldest brother showing up to get her the fuck out of there. i don’t imagine she received any scars from this one, people would have been too scared to physically harm the daughter of duchess priscilla in her own city tbh.  second time came some weeks later, her and bastian were caught somewhere around hunter fell. don’t believe this was ever fully developed but almost certainly it was because of some bullshit on riya’s part, probably complained too much of the travel time or maybe they were arguing the idea of approaching his family for help, either way kept them stagnant for one night too many and the templars closed in. they got out through rasha’s warden recruitment + riya’s plea for bastian to be brought along too. bastian might have gotten a scar from the experience depending on how the capture went down, but i don’t think riya would have just because of certain spells.
MEREDITH — yes, loathe she is to admit it. seething the entire way, truly near to combusting with the amount of fury in her body at the time, meredith surrendered to ser cauthrien when offered the choice to do so or die (they may have been able to win the fight, but she couldn’t see a valid reason to risk that even in her volatile state). she and alistair fought their way out of fort drakon and i’m sure they earned their fair share of scars between them from those encounters, but i think any mark on her body paled in comparison to discovering the brutalized corpses of ser gilmore and mother mallol along the way 🤷🏼
JORINA — this question simply unlocks the fun potential of a scouts side mission where they get temporarily captured by red templars, which i’m so here for. the fun part is the brutal action and scars they get out of it <3
ghost: Who or what haunts your OC? What happened? How do they live with their ghosts?
RIYA — the valdivia brothers live in her head rent free. always making themselves known when she's left alone for too long and 9/10 times the subject(s) of her dreams/nightmares thanks to the lovely denizens of the fade. she struggles with immense guilt over their deaths on the daily. bastian's has a clear butterfly effect that she can follow to the beginning and see her direct influence in, while victor's is more that she was heavily affected by so many telling her that she was at fault. she has an odd half-and-half way of dealing with the ghosts, where sometimes she’ll do her best to actively ignore them by focusing on any task in front of her and sometimes she’ll let all of the upset flood in for like 20 minutes and just sob about them. truly where is a fantasy therapist she needs them. edit after finishing all the other answers: i'd also like to add on that i think the clear visual riya got of seeing the whole party and various other wardens fall through the cracks of the earth to their probable deaths is gonna haunt her for a little while. that was pretty terrifying
MEREDITH — the list is so long for her i'm not sure where to start or end. a great deal of the events in origins linger for her, some lie more heavily on her consciousness and others are a bare whisper of a phantom around the corner, but they all cause occasional bouts of melancholy or anger. her fallen family weighs on her the greatest, little oren the most. i think she'd go through some grounding techniques to help manage it all, though it would've taken her an insane amount of time to develop that ability. focusing on the sounds around her, listing all of the people in her life that she's close to, reciting her schedule for the day, etc etc, it all helps to remind her she's in the present.
JORINA — definitely the purge of the denerim alienage as a whole, plus one or two particularly terrifying men who took part in it. the horror-filled chaos of the fifth blight battles that went down in the city as well. the memory of her father in his deepest depression. countless things she witnessed during her time with the inquisition, i know some fucked up shit would have been seen. straight up didn’t deal with the hauntings and ghosts for years, with encouragement from friends she makes in the inquisition she’d start to heal by talking about them with others. takes a painful amount of time and usually it’s aleksi she speaks to, but it all counts.
heartbreak: Have they ever had a relationship that ended badly? Experienced some other kind of heartbreak? What happened?
RIYA — for the sake of a more Chill answer, we'll breeze on past the victor thing. i have no doubt riya’s had some relationships end badly given how extensive her dating history is, and tbh also the easily made assumption that she’s the kind of lady that made numerous mistakes to learn her lessons in this department. she's better in the present, but there's probably a support group out there for the people she's hurt/angered/broken-the-hearts-of. on her end, i don't think riya's dealt with the heartbreak associated with ended relationships because 99% of her connections were never serious in her mind. just all for fun or obvious they were there for purely physical, y'know.
MEREDITH — umm. kind of a similar thread with the guy fucking dying being the end of the relationship, but meredith suffered a particular kind of heartbreak with ser gilmore. they weren’t in a relationship and may not have ever entered one, but they were sweet on each other and she went for years believing he’d always be there in whatever future she had. we all know how that ended yikes
JORINA — jorina’s exempt from this one, aleksi’s her first and only romantic relationship. nailed it first try
wound: How does your OC handle being wounded? Are their wounds mostly physical? Mental? Emotional? What's the worst wound your OC has ever experienced?
RIYA — i’d say her wounds are mostly emotional at this point, and the biggest ones come from the aforementioned valdivia brothers. actual HP loss total forgotten, her worst physical wound is probably a toss-up between that time she was psychic-blasted by the keystone & when she was almost got fucking bodied by a darkspawn ogre last session, i’d lean towards the latter i think. she’s gotta still be nursing some injuries from that one but is being super brave about it, really. she DID cry and DOES whimper while putting her gear on after each long rest but she HASN’T made it everybody’s problem by complaining, so that’s super courageous of her and everyone should be praising her for that, i think. her reactions to wounds are very in the moment because she hasn't dealt with a lot of injures in her life, there's no self-trained response it's just pure instinct and emotion driven.
MEREDITH — the type of protagonist who doesn't acknowledge her own wounds until she's literally about to bleed out, because somebody has to be the leader around here after the battle and the various cuts and bruises can wait to be treated until after the adrenaline's dropped. i'd say she has an even spread across all wounds, but hangs more importance on the mental ones in her mind. the events of highever are #1 in the mental and emotional categories, while physical is likely from the encounter with arl howe. the combo of blind fury + being full-focus on repeatedly driving a dagger into howe's chest = not noticing being stabbed by a warrior's sword from behind until the fight's over and suddenly everyone's panicking over you (wynne was there so it's fine but. yeah).
JORINA — she'd be so stealthy on the field i hardly ever think of her injured, so this is a trip. she has such a good stone face that i imagine she handily pulls off the classic of nobody realizing she's been horribly wounded until she ends a conversation with pulling away a bloodied hand from her side and calmly asking where the healer is. i think it would be so fun if jorina's worst injury came from her getting fucking rocked out in the wilds while scouting for mythal's temple. the idea of head scout jorina being fully blindsided by the sentinel elves in their own terrain is super fun to me, i don't know why. send a girly and her squad out because they're the best of the best and then watch her get taken tf down by an insane arrow shot from the forest that's some dramatic shit right there

Okay…that may just be one of my favorite chapters of “An Opposite of Echoes” to date - the sweet conversation between Sara & Grissom in the car, Sara’s conversation with Greg, and poor Grissom - I forgot he had the budget report to do too.
But now I’m suddenly becoming very aware that this series is just getting started as Sara mentions when her next therapy appointment is & when the ultrasound is (and the ever present hint about twins…in my mind I’ve already decided - she’s having twins).
I know you’re a busy person, but tell me that next installment in the Accidents universe isn’t going to be a year away once this story wraps to…please?
hi, @chelsshearman!
aw, shucks! i'm glad you enjoyed this week's installment so much! after putting sara through the ringer in the previous chapter, i thought it would only be fair to give her some quality time with her boys so she could recuperate a bit in this one.
though grissom definitely doesn't get the same kind of reprieve, poor guy! 😂
i'm happy to know you liked reading those conversations. i always have fun getting to "peel back the curtain" and show some of the between-the-action interpersonal moments with the team we so seldom get to see in canon.
it's wild to think there are only three updates left to go before this fic is completely posted—literally just a few more hours' worth of time within the universe of the story!
i will tease: the next chapter contains a couple of my personal favorite scenes, and i'm excited to share them with you and hear your thoughts, if you care to tell them.
as for when you might expect the next installment of the accidentsverse once "an opposite of echoes" wraps up, i honestly can't promise anything in terms of a timeline.
i have three to four more multichapter fics (tentatively) planned to span the rest of the pregnancy and the baby's or babies' birth. the first one would cover the events of christmas and its aftermath (i.e., the next few weeks in the story world immediately after "an opposite of echoes"), including the skype call with betty, sara's therapy appointment, and the 8-week ultrasound. the next one (or two, depending on how i ultimately split things) would cover some major events later in the pregnancy, and the last one would bring us through to the delivery day and the first little while postpartum.
though i know what these stories will cover content-wise, i can't tell you when to expect them.
i am a notoriously slow writer for a variety of reasons both process- and circumstance-related, and i learned long ago that whenever i try to predict when i'll be ready to publish something, i inevitably end up being wrong (and, unfortunately, never in a good "oh! i finished this story much sooner than anticipated!" kind of way).
i do intend to devote myself to "something in you i believe in" for the foreseeable future after "an opposite of echoes," and that fic will be my priority until it's completed, so i'm not likely to publish another big accidentsverse multichapter fic any time soon.
of course, since the accidentsverse is my happy place and still very much where i am currently living in my imagination, i'll say: though i can't state exactly when it might happen, since i always have little scenes and vignettes from this 'verse playing through my mind, there is a good chance i'll end up posting some fill-in-the-gaps-between-the-big-planned-multichapter-fics one-shots sometime before 2024 is out!
i just can't stay away from this geeky little family for long!
anyway, in the meantime, i hope you enjoy the end of the story. thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to share your thoughts and encouragement! 💙
p.s., re: the possibility it's twins: we'll have to see. sara will definitely be holding her breath until that ultrasound, for sure!
