It’s spooky season, so, of course, I threw myself into some cute and creepy doodles for my reading journal. I got a lot of inspo on Pinterest, but I’m crazy proud of myself for the ghost on the cover.

To continue my tradition of watching 31 Halloween movies, I’ve got a movie page to track what all books I’ll be watching. My hope is to watch a few new (to me) horror movies, but my favorites will get a rewatch too.

The only page I wasn’t happy with was my title for pages read. I tried a new style and it didn’t work out for me. I’m so bad at bubble letters.

I used to roll my eyes impatiently when I’d start a nonfiction book like an anthology of essays about dogs on sailboats and the introduction spent 15 pages carefully defining words like “What is understood under the term sailboat is the type of boat that has one or several sails—” But you get 1 post on tumblr with a few thousand notes and find yourself being nitpicked to death by anons and having to be like “why would you even think that’s what I meant by recently and shoes” and next thing you know your feelings when you pick up the anthology have shifted to “you didn’t define dog... that’s brave...”

I think I'm finally getting the inkling that I need to accept that I don't wanna work as hard as some people. Now I'm doing a PhD I can't keep pressing myself to work as hard as the hardest workers because, well, I don't want to anymore! :')

That doesn't mean I won't work hard; I'm gonna do my best to make this big ol project wonderful, and academically fulfilling! I still want to aim high. But I'm only a couple weeks in and I feel a certainty that to enjoy life during it, I'm going to need to work on being comfortable going home earlier, and putting in fewer hours, than some people. So I will!

It feels so, so good to say that actually. ❤️🥾✨☀️🍂🍁

Happy October 31st! Halloween and the fall IMO has such a heavy connotation with the death tarot card. Things change dramatically and starkly. While something may stop all together good or bad something is also reborn good or bad. In either case mourning is such a crucial part of the autumn and winter. How are we going about mourning change

Disclaimer: please take what I say with a grain of salt and not as the gospel. I just want to share some ideas of practicing and giving advice using the medium as often as I can with school, work, and my own personal studies and practice.
