CHAPTER ONE. . . ˚ ༘ *
L'INCOMPARABLE.
Talks of betrothal began in the last Spring of your youth.
Under the cherry blossom trees, you sit in silence, fuchsia petals decorating the length of your hair in messy scatters.
Satoru Gojo, crowned prince and heir to the Gojo throne, picks the fallen remnants of flowers from your hair one by one as the nobles watch on.
Whispers of ‘they would make such a beautiful match’ and ‘look how the Prince dotes on her’ echo in the brush of the gardens, women whispering among themselves and the men chortling between swings of their mallets — in a near deathly game of pall mall.
“Don’t hide from me,” Satoru dips his head, breath fanning the shell of your ear. If possible, the whispers intensify, cutting past your ears and you bite back a giggle, stifling down the thought that crosses your mind, attention whore.
“I’m not hiding, your highness.” You counter, shifting to the side, your smile hidden behind a porcelain teacup, swift sips of ginger warming your cheeks.
“It’s improper, you know.” The words linger in the air between soft wisps of wind, flurries of foreign fabrics and bright layers of skirts pass your vision — and yet, all is drowned out by him.
Your anointed Prince, the attention whore.
“Improper to gaze upon my companion?” Satoru scoffs, grinning wide, toothy, dimples.
Childhood found you both tethered like bee and nectar, always close, always coming back.
At first, it was through duty, sharp tongued ten year old Satoru Gojo, a prince born with a halo and the title of the realm’s strongest to his name, meeting you, the humble princess of the Western kingdom, born in valor and sprouted in pride, a warrior’s code.
It was a disastrous first few encounters—
(—but then he was your bestfriend, and you his. )
His dear mother, bless her soul, had taken the time out to host this marvelous garden party to welcome the newest maidens into their debuts – moreso, to marry Satoru off quicker than he could leave for another battle, chasing another war – and yet, he cared not to meet with any of the women or entertain them beyond an inch of his being.
Not around you, at least.
“You shouldn’t jest about these things—!” A snort leaves your mouth, and whereas the ever uppity ladies of the palace court gawk at you in utter disbelief and mild disgust, Satoru finds himself bellowing a boyish laugh.
That was the last time he’d laugh like that with you, before a warm spring of youth turned to a burning summer, hot with passion, scorched with lust.

THE SCANDAL OF THE CHILDHOOD CONSORT.
Dearest gentle reader,
As all royal scandals do,
It started with an invitation.
We cordially invite you to the Gojo palace grounds to celebrate the betrothal of our crowned prince Satoru Gojo and his bride to be [name] [name].
This author finds herself compelled and rather . . . intrigued.
What a match made in heaven! Our beloved Prince Satoru and his most dearest childhood friend!
Your fingers tremble at your sides, the aura that is the strongest permeates your very being. The soft hum of piano keys coupled with string and bow becomes near inaudible – the power Satoru Gojo has on you is like a moth to a flame, lamb to slaughter.
But I assure you,
When it comes to matters of the heart —
Carefully, your feet carry you across the crowded ballroom, mass of bodies parting the instant they catch a glimpse of your eyes – that desperation is familiar in young women like you – and they pity you.
You, who should be above them, who should be the next Queen, the current Princess consort to be.
And yet.
“I’ve told you endlessly, I will take no wife!” Satoru’s voice is a staccato, bouncing off the walls of the vacant corridor adjacent to the ballroom, echoing past your ears.
Dare I say, our beloved crowned Prince
Is not the strongest.
“Some nerve you have, boy.”
Satoru’s father, the King, is a stoic man.
You’ve come to know this well in your youth. He rules firm and his word remains law. By no means is he the strongest or possesses any more battle capacity than that of any other noble, but he remains a political stronghold.
And his grip over his family — his subjects, remains unwavering.
“I don’t care for your affairs or your crown,” Satoru’s gaze remains hard, even as he meets his father’s ire in tow, and in such a barely secluded place too. “Let one of your bastards have it, my place is on the battlefield doing what you are too cowardly to.”
Your mind runs rampant, palms pressed against the cold wall concealing your presence.
You wonder what Satoru might be thinking — if he’d be so foolish as to forsake his lineage and do away with his duty, if he’d give up simply because his fate was not his choice — he wouldn’t.
No, Satoru is good and kind, and he would see this kingdom to a new realm of peace just with his bare hands alone.
“And that is all? You wish to do away with it simply because it does not suit your childish desires? I have given you everything! And the one thing I ask of you—”
You still yourself at the near animalistic growl that leaves Satoru’s lips.
“She will never be Queen.”
It cuts through you like blades of grass, familiar, scratching at your skin softly, pinpricks of green drawing blood from your calves.
It reminds you of when you were younger, more naive and susceptible to the follies of men and matters of the heart.
“Who’ll marry you if you spend your days swinging a sword and broadening your shoulders?”
“Aren’t there girls your age you can follow around? I don’t care if you’re a princess, we’re not friends.”
“I don’t know why you’d believe he’d ever want to court you.”
Tumblr media
Three months, thirteen days.
Your betrothal has long exceeded and broken the record of engagement wait time.
Most women would be married within the same month of betrothal, the longest and most respectable wait time being a month and a half, only due to cases of overdue dowry payments.
Three million dollars was your reverse dowry.
Paid directly from the royal treasury to your father, and four million dollars paid in return. That was how much yours and Satoru’s hands were worth to your families, a testament to the weight you’d both bear by wearing a crown.
Except, you hadn’t been crowned yet. Or married for that matter.
“—summer solstice hunt!” It’s Yuji who exclaims, voice filled with childlike wonder. Recently knighted by Satoru himself and a renowned protege of the Kingsguard, the boy is eager to please. “Who will you cast your bets on, your grace?”
The confines of Satoru’s private study function as a meeting room for idle chatting — he leaves the letters to his advisors when they are of little importance.
Or discards them entirely when he has company, like now.
You sink deeper into the cushioned seat, Satoru’s arm draped over the back of your chair. A tuft of snowy hair falls over his forehead and he breathes a chuckle, your weight curling in on itself with every rise and fall of his chest.
why don’t you want me why don’t you want me why don’t you want me why don't you want me
“It’s out of question to bet on one’s self, no?” Satoru chuckles and it earns a cackle from Yuji, who, despite himself, has already casted his own bet on his annointed Prince. “I wouldn’t want to make anyone’s head bigger than it ought to be.”
The summer and winter solstice brings with it two separate ceremonial festivals — the hunt being the most anticipated due to its cutthroat competition among nobles and peasants alike.
That, and the prize.
The winner of the hunt, the man or woman to capture the famed primordial stag — which is really a regular stag trained and bred to elude even the most skilled knights — would be rewarded a grand jewel from the Queen’s vault.
Gentle reader,
The famed jewel for the taking
This summer, is none other than—
“I’ve placed my bet on you,” you comment plainly with a shrug and Yuji beams.
It isn’t unlike you to root for one of Satoru’s proteges, the ones fairly skilled and new to knighthood – you’ve always found yourself cheering for the peonies in a garden full of roses — the underdogs full of potential . . .
Satoru glances over to you, and for a second you miss how his gaze lingers.
“You’re too kind, Princess…” Yuji sighs, near dreamily. “I will no doubt do well now that I have your favor on my side.”
( losing dogs, satoru wants to say. all you ever do is bet on losing dogs. )
“You have her bet, not her favor.” Satoru scoffs dramatically before you can even think to lend Yuji your well wishes. “It isn’t something given, it’s something won. And from a maiden, not a Princess consort.”
She’s spoken for, is all you hear though.
There’s an air of uncertainty that passes between you and Satoru that only thickens with your closeness.
A pale palm curls around the cross rail of the back of your chair and you lean into his touch subconsciously – it’s warm, secure – he’s saying, I have your favor, don’t I? Tell me I do.
—The champion’s jewel,
A wraith necklace fit for a Queen.
The L’Incomparable.
“Nevertheless, you have my good faith.” You interject, followed by a sharp inhale, and you stand abruptly from your seat. Satoru’s hand falls to his side. He knows what you're thinking.
Three months, thirteen days.
You’ve sat by and watched Satoru deny you marriage – his excuse, that he’s waiting for his coronation first – you’ve watched him continue to entertain the women around him like he’s done since he was merely a squire, plastering a smile on his face from this glass castle he calls home.
He’s close, but never too close. Stringing you on then letting you loose— it’s routine.
It’s eerily similar to your childhood.
“Yuji,” Satoru speaks, soft yet firm. The young boy is on his feet immediately and offers a swift bow to his majesty, handing his service in tow to the call. “Leave us.” Satoru commands, and just as swiftly as he came, Yuji is bowing to you and exiting through the study doors.
L’Incomparable.
The largest internally flawless diamond in the kingdom and the most expensive chain sitting in the Queen’s vault currently, worth eight billion dollars alone.
Allegedly, it was handcrafted as a gift from an ancient Gojo king to his mistress — whom he had knighted and sent off to fight in the war at her wishes once their affair had been brought to light and scrutinized.
A gift he only got to place on her corpse.
Even in death, he loved her. More than he loved his own wife and Queen.
And though many attempts had been made to destroy the necklace, it remains near indestructible.
“Something troubles you.” Satoru murmurs the moment the door clicks shut. His gaze remains strained forward on your form, from where you fiddle with the frayed hem of your gown, back turned to him.
“I simply think of the prospects of the hunt,” you retort. “There are many promising young competitors traveling to partake— I fear my Prince would simply be. . . thwarted, is all.”
L’Incomparable is not a jewel of love.
It's a sickening story of a woman who loved a man who could not love her back in the way she deserved.
A woman who took what she was given, secret meetings, hushed whispers and fleeting gazes.
And when he did, finally love her back wholly and ardently, unable to bury it behind a locked door in the dungeon he called a heart — she was already gone.
“You doubt me?” Satoru’s voice is closer now, and you wonder when he even stood up – if he'd been taking small steps toward you the entire time.
“No.” It leaves your mouth like a prayer, an oath, worship. Every ounce of confidence you have is in him. He has protected you, kept you, safeguarded your sanity and treated you with grace— “Never that.”
( —he is your friend. nothing more than that. )
He exhales, and you hear the faint sound of a swallow, the click of his tongue. Your ear feels hot with the proximity, yet, he inches closer still.
“Will you give this to me, then?” He whispers, faint, uncertain — almost desperate.
And you turn, faces inches apart, breath mingling. “What is it you wish of me, my Prince?” Your pupils dilate.
“Your Prince,” Satoru repeats, like it knocked the wind out of him. It's a common way to address the monarch, you’ve said it before as have others. “. . . asks for your favor in the upcoming hunt.”
He keeps his hands folded behind him, curled into fists and trembling. Your Prince. Yours. Yours.
He’s a gentleman. He was raised right.
This urge—
( you’re his friend. his advisor. his confidant. this is not what he wants. )
The urge to strip you down to nothing but your chemise, lay you on his desk and hike your legs over his hips, show you things you’ve only seen in dreams or read in books — like he’s done to so many women before — he promises himself he’s not a rake, he’s just a man, but when you look at him like that and say his title so softly—
( it will pass. )
“Then,” your breath slows as he steps forward, so easily leaving you pressed back against the hardwood desk, caged by him. “I will grant my Prince my favor.”
Satoru watches in earnest, places his hands on either side of you on the desk as you remove one of your gloves.
Pure white, pearl decor, lace trim.
He would've laughed if he wasn't so enthralled by such a simple thing. Satoru wants to pull the other glove off with his teeth.
“I’ll return it to you,” he says, a promise. He takes the glove as you hand it to him, leaning forward and chasing the remnants of your fingertips against his once you pull away. “When I win.”
( and maybe then, you’ll understand i am devoted to you, wholly and utterly, if only in these moments and never again. )
There's a knock at the door, brief and soft. A maid, come to drop off another stack of letters.
And just as quickly as Satoru had found himself against you, he’s across the room, opening the door.
As if you had never been there.
The only evidence that he had even touched you is the lace cupped in his palm, middle and index tracing over a minute pearl.
L’Incomparable is a jewel of longing.
Tumblr media
Morrow brings with it the beginning of joyous festivities.
You woke to another trousseau. This time, from a distant cousin in the Easternmost kingdom.
Attached was a letter of the newest development in her love life – said development being a defected knight nonetheless.
It made you giggle.
The palace corridors are bustling with life.
Servants and attendants eager to welcome early visitors who have come for the summer solstice, robust back and forth on decorations and food and gossip and many a’ things outside the realm of possibility to be discussed in one sitting.
Your lady in waiting, Areta, whom you’ve known since your youth, creeps into your room with a grin as wide as a war banner – you immediately assume the worst, mischief is your pastime but you fear the poor girl takes ‘eavesdropping on court gossip’ to another level.
“My lady, you would not believe—” Areta huffs, journeying to sit with you on the balcony, wiping an imaginary bead of sweat from her brow. “The things I’ve heard today!”
“You hear things everyday, I fear.” You indulge her, as always. And she begins to talk your ear off, all in good faith of course.
Down below in the courtyard, is the sound of smacking wood and the occasional chorus of baritone conversation.
Satoru, who should be attending treaty meetings with his father, bides his time sparring on the cobblestone with the other men of the Kingsguard – the noise wakes you most mornings.
“—talking to Julietta, you know? The girl who attends to the countess? And she said—”
You hum along to Areta’s words, eyes peering over the edge of the balcony, gaze fixed on the crown Prince.
His snowy hair is damp with sweat, Victorian style dress shirt rolled up at the sleeves, every swing of his wooden sword causes a commotion — muscles in his back flexing under the sunlight, so easily seen beneath the thin white fabric.
“—that her lady told her that she heard from a cousin-in-law who works at the docks that—”
You wonder what expression Satoru has as he pummels through his underlings playfully, hardly sparring but more play fighting. You imagine he’s grinning wide, crystalline blue eyes shimmering with glee—
“—that Prince Geto is coming for the hunt!”
You choke. Audibly.
Areta is quick to shut her mouth and lend you a concerned gaze. “Princess, are you—”
“I’m alright.” You wave a hand, catching your breath. Prince Geto. If you think about it too hard, you fear your chest might burst open and spill out your insides.
Oh, fair reader, it seems
Our dear protagonist has come upon
A treasure trove of memories.
“You were, ehem, saying?” You twirl your index finger in the air as if to prompt a rewind. “About. . .”
Areta raises an eyebrow, but nods slowly. “About Julietta’s lady’s cousin-in-law?” The girl questions, dim.
“No!” You interject immediately, twirling your finger in the other direction. Fast forward. “The other thing— the thing you heard!”
“Oh, about Prince Geto!”
Dearest reader,
Suguru Geto enters.
A man of great mystique,
the northern Prince.
And striking opposite of
our beloved crowned Prince Satoru.
“Yes! About him—”
Suguru Geto.
In many ways you could say he was Satoru’s best friend, his greatest rival and worst enemy all at the same time.
Through solstice events, formal gatherings and other royal duties, the same way you met Satoru, you met Suguru through him.
“Well, Julietta’s lady’s cousin-in-law works at the docks,” Areta begins again, regrettably. “You know? The private harbor where all the spirit and wheat shipments come in, but that's besides the point—”
( suguru was your bestfriend too. in every way it counted. )
“Areta.” You coo, coaxing her to get back to the main point. Why was Suguru coming for the summer solstice hunt? After being away in the North for so long, why now?
The only correspondence you’d had with him was a few letters years ago. And then he stopped writing.
“So, Julietta’s lady’s cousin-in-law saw the Geto family's ship dock in the private harbor!” The girl exclaims hushedly and you hum to yourself, curious.
Rightfully, you’d hold a grudge about never hearing from Suguru.
But in this moment, you feel no resentment or hurt. Instead, excitement that you might see your old friend once more.
And maybe, you, Suguru and Satoru could spend the summer solstice together— just like old times.
( and that’d be enough to get rid of the heat in your chest when satoru gets too close to you. )
Faithful reader,
she could not have been
more wrong.
Tumblr media
Four days remain until the summer solstice hunt.
Satoru is scarce around the palace in preparation for his coronation coming soon and treaty arrangements.
You, on the other hand, have exhausted all your hobbies, biding your idle time helping the other ladies at court pick their gowns for tomorrow's feast — the first of seven nightly ones during the solstice.
Another trousseau is delivered to your chambers when you wake.
This time, you’re taken aback.
Instead of an elaborate stack of gifts, a box of jewelry or even a scandalous collection of seductive corsets and nightgowns to remind you of your predicament—
There's a long wooden box, coupled with a sealed parcel.
Inside the box is a beautiful gown, deep burgundy and shapely. Fitted with a low bust cut and short sleeves. It's a mouth watering dress, one you would've bought yourself if you even knew it existed.
But you've never seen a dress designed like this before, down to the intricate details of the underskirts and the hemming.
It's almost intimate.
When you finally open the parcel, you expect a note, but there's none. Instead, inside is a pair of black silk gloves, so smooth it melts in your palms – your mind immediately goes to Satoru and the glove he still holds hostage for you.
You don't think twice before telling Areta that this is what you’ll be wearing to tomorrow’s feast.
( you ought to thank satoru for this gift by wearing it, no? )
˚ ༘ *
The lights in the dining hall are dimmed perfectly to match the moonlight.
When you slip in from the adjacent corridor, greeting visiting nobles and residents of the palace court alike, a sense of nausea floods the pit of your stomach – what will Satoru say when he sees you? Will he like how the dress looks – or rather how you look in it?
Wait, why do you even care?
You’ve never really cared for these things— it must be the tea you had earlier. You nearly feel faint.
Darling reader,
it was in fact,
not the tea.
Your thoughts don't get the chance to linger very long, as the soft hum of music slows to a halt, and everyone begins journeying to their assigned seats.
Naturally, you fiddle with your gloves, not wanting to sit down at the second table yet.
One, it would be very impudent of a lady of your caliber to be seated without a proper escort by a gentleman.
And two, even though you did decline the few men who asked to escort you, you can't help the anxiety that floods your veins when you begin to realize that so many people are sitting already and you're not!
Sure, you're a Princess, but can't a girl be a little shy?
( not that you were waiting for satoru or anything of course. )
Devoted reader,
our protagonist
is in denial.
“It pains me to see such a beautiful lady left unaccompanied.” A voice flits past your ears, so close you can taste it on your tongue — incense, sandalwood.
( oh god, no. )
Your body turns in an instant, almost too quick, and your underskirts almost trip you as the weight sends you wobbling forward.
“Easy—” Suguru Geto’s arm darts out to curl around your waist, steadying you.
“You're here—” “You’re still clumsy—”
The both of you lock eyes at your shared unison of speech, then chuckle to yourselves.
You let your eyes wander over his features, how much he's grown over these past years.
He’s still as ethereal as the royal painters would describe. Prince Geto, the joy to paint, once in an era type beauty, born to be depicted in art, they’d say.
You don't doubt that.
“You look well,” you say. Suguru glances down at you and shakes his head, as if that is too much of a compliment for him to take. “No, honestly— I don't tease, you look very. . . stately.”
“Are you trying to call me old in a polite way, my lady?” He feigns offense, tilting his head to the side a little. You cover your mouth to laugh.
You don't miss the way his eyes linger on your gloves.
( oh, the gloves ! )
“Your highness,” leaves your mouth in a whisper, half teasing, half regal, and you give a brief curtsy, which he counters with a swift bow. “Would you do me the pleasure?” You grin, extending your hand to him.
Suguru — never Prince Geto, not to you at least — had been your solace, your comfort and your refuge.
The greatest friend you could have asked for in your youth.
“The pleasure is all mine.” Suguru whispers, taking your hand in earnest, escorting you over to the table and pulling your chair out for you — settling himself in the seat across from you, on the other side of the table.
( what a coincidence. )
˚ ༘ *
Time passes in waves.
People are whispering, no doubt. As they always do about you. No matter how hushed, you always hear them.
‘Look at the poor Princess consort, sitting beside an empty chair.’
‘You’d think she’d refer to herself as Lady now instead of Consort—’
‘To think even a Princess is not immune from such things. . .’
‘These things happen when you're sold off to a future King.’
“Bitter.”
Your head snaps up at the sound, dessert fork halting mid stab into your slice of cake.
Suguru’s eyes meet yours, as if he’d been looking at you the entire time, like he reads your thoughts as his own.
The people sitting at the table alongside you both fix their attention on him, the whispers halting.
“The cake,” he leans back in his chair, shrugging strands of his hair out of his face, looking down the length of the table at the spectators, nonchalant. “It's terribly bitter.”
You think you’d open your mouth to scold him a little, to not joke about what people say, royals should never engage in such petty gossip – but instead, you smile in gratitude.
( bitter. everybody's so bitter in this place. )
“That's quite unfortunate.” A familiar voice rings out, your fork sliding out of your hand to rest on the edge of your plate. “I hoped it would be rather sweet tonight.”
When you look over your shoulder, Satoru is already at your side, bending a knee and outstretching an open palm to you. “My Princess.”
He looks. . . disheveled.
Not completely out of order, it's something so small — so minute that only those who know him well would be able to point it out. From the crease of his vest to the shaky rasp in his voice—
And the woman in your peripheral stumbling back into the dining hall from the garden entrance on shaky legs. . .
( so that's what he was doing. )
“Your grace,” leaves your lips in a whisper and he kisses the back of your palm before sinking into his seat.
The way he presses his middle finger against his bottom lip like he’d been burned by the silk makes you raise an eyebrow. Does he not even have the common courtesy of pretending to like the gloves he gifted?
“I’m pleased you took time out of your busy schedule for us regular people.” Suguru chuckles, and Satoru’s mother, sitting near you all at the head table seems far from pleased.
“Well, a small act of kindness goes a long way.” Satoru parries and you force a smile, stabbing your dessert once more. “Especially for someone as regular as you, Prince Suguru.”
If you had initially thought this would be a quaint rekindling of an old childhood friendship, you never felt more wrong than in this moment — the air settles thick between you three.
“Isn't the future King Gojo just so kind?” Suguru addresses you, and you swallow, stifling your laugh.
“I pray for your marriage. . .” One of the Dukes seated at the table jests, to which you fiddle with the hem of your dress, the burgundy falling over your palms as a chorus of laughter ensues.
Marriage.
Suguru notices your gaze on him – or rather far away – and he smiles to snap you out of it. “Lady name?”
Just then Satoru’s hand reaches for yours under the table, halting your fiddling with the fabric, his grip steady and soft.
“Princess Consort.” Satoru interjects with a flat lipped smile, which could be perceived as kind, but to Suguru. . . “She changed titles.”
When was the last time someone called you by your name and not Princess consort? Always that. Not even Princess name.
“Pardon me,” you mumble beneath your breath, your grip on your dress going slack. You shrug your hand free from Satoru’s grip, abandoning your seat in an instant.
Satoru rises from his chair only four seconds afterward.
“Name—” he calls to you, following you out of the dining hall and down a vacant corridor.
Your footsteps evade him as he chases after you wide steps.
But he stops dead in his tracks when he hears you slam the door to an empty side room shut.
My dearest reader,
brace yourself for the
next publication.
Your kind author
bids you farewell.

PSA: Lyanna Stark was NOT a hypocrite
It’s a little annoying how often ASOIAF fans will misread and purposefully misinterpret Lyanna’s thoughts about Robert’s true nature, as a way to prove that she’s hypocritical (while also absolving Robert from all his faults as a husband/lover).
First, let’s look at that conversation again, shall we?
“Robert will never keep to one bed,” Lyanna had told him at Winterfell, on the night long ago when their father had promised her hand to the young Lord of Storm’s End. “I hear he has gotten a child on some girl in the Vale.” Ned had held the babe in his arms; he could scarcely deny her, nor would he lie to his sister, but he had assured her that what Robert did before their betrothal was of no matter, that he was a good man and true who would love her with all his heart. Lyanna had only smiled. “Love is sweet, dearest Ned, but it cannot change a man’s nature.”
And we must consider the larger context:
The girl had been so young Ned had not dared to ask her age. No doubt she’d been a virgin; the better brothels could always find a virgin, if the purse was fat enough. She had light red hair and a powdering of freckles across the bridge of her nose, and when she slipped free a breast to give her nipple to the babe, he saw that her bosom was freckled as well. “I named her Barra,” she said as the child nursed. “She looks so like him, does she not, milord? She has his nose, and his hair …”
“She does.” Eddard Stark had touched the baby’s fine, dark hair. It flowed through his fingers like black silk. Robert’s firstborn had had the same fine hair, he seemed to recall.
“Tell him that when you see him, milord, as it … as it please you. Tell him how beautiful she is.”
“I will,” Ned had promised her. That was his curse. Robert would swear undying love and forget them before evenfall, but Ned Stark kept his vows. He thought of the promises he’d made Lyanna as she lay dying, and the price he’d paid to keep them.
- Eddard IX, AGOT
Ned recalls his conversation with Lya as he returns from visiting one of Robert’s bastards. He has just made a promise to tell Robert about the babe and laments that he is a man who honors and keeps his vows. When me promises to do something, he will go through with it.
Furthermore, this scene is framed within the context of Robert being a liar. He will swear one thing and then immediately perform actions that directly contradict whatever oaths he has made. Robert would say that he loves Lyanna and would remain faithful to her, and only her, but then would immediately go an and betray her trust.
That’s what Lyanna is talking about in her conversation with Ned. She’s not condemning Robert for fathering a bastard. She’s condemning him for fathering a bastard all while he swears oaths of love and loyalty to her. Because Ned tells her that Robert loves her and only her, that he’s sworn to be faithful to her alone. Yet Lyanna goes, “are you sure about that, dear brother?” Because why would he swear loyalty to her then turn around and do the exact opposite of that loyalty, which is laying with another woman and fathering a child on her?
As much as Lyanna has the right to call out her betrothed’s promiscuity, she’s really not doing that here. She’s using his promiscuity to call out his lying and unreliable nature. Robert may love her, but he will not honor that love and stay true to her. That’s literally what she means by saying
“Love is sweet, dearest Ned, but it cannot change a man’s nature.”
Simple as that.
Also, notice how the topic of oaths and vows comes into play. This conversation undoubtedly brings into mind the concept of knighthood and the chivalric code. Robert has, from the very beginning, been a deconstruction of the knightly ideal. He’s a knight who fought a battle against the (not so) evil dragon/prince and won, but he was ultimately without honor and became a bad king. He’s the same knight who vowed to rescue his maiden (Lyanna) but was also unfaithful to her. This is a deconstruction of the chivalric tale. We’re meant to think that Robert, NOT Lyanna, is the hypocrite here. Robert is just another one of GRRM’s failed knights in ASOIAF; remember that before he was a king, Robert was a Ser.
And if we really want to bring Rhaegar into this, I’m afraid that we cannot call him a hypocrite for fathering a child on Lyanna.
He wondered if Rhaegar had frequented brothels; somehow he thought not.
The text directly contradicts the idea that Robert and Rhaegar are similar. Ned himself, who has a close personal relationship with Robert, acknowledges this. And going back to the point about the deconstruction of chivalry, Rhaegar is a knight as well. His elopement with Lyanna directly plays into the chivalric performance of a knight kidnapping an innocent young maiden. It’s a tale as old as time, literally. But this is not a clear cut case of Rhaegar being the evil knight (or the evil dragon, as some of our fantasy tales might have it) because the text goes to great lengths to paint him as the opposite of Robert.
Rhaegar did not swear vows of love and loyalty to Lyanna and then break them (as far as we know). While he was married to Elia and was fond of her, as per Barrtistan, there is no indication in the text that he personally vowed to love her above all before he ultimately absconded with Lyanna. So, Lyanna running off with Rhaegar instead of marrying Robert does not make her actions hypocritical. There’s really no reason to read this passage that way. At all.
So TL,DR:
STOP calling Lyanna a hypocrite because of this one conversation. That’s literally not supported within the text at all. Lyanna is not objecting to Robert fathering a bastard. Rather, she’s objecting too him fathering a bastard all while he tells her father and brothers that he wishes to marry her, love her, and be faithful to her.
STOP trying to compare Robert and Rhaegar through this lens - that Rhaegar and Lyanna are hypocrites. The text directly contradicts that idea. Robert is the hypoactive and the liar, NOT Lyanna or Rhaegar.
It’s that simple. No need to overcomplicate things.
I’m not entirely sure why this passage has been misinterpreted for so long but here we are…

white sword | d. targaryen
Description: Daemon fights you in the field. He struggles to do so because of the feelings in his heart.
Rating: Mature [angst, age appropriate reader, dornish coded reader, very short smut like 200 words]
Author's Note: GIF again because Canva won't load.

He takes a step forward - boots crunching over the bloody battlefield. There were bodies of green and black armor laid on the floor - their life was already taken away. He holds the Dark Sister firmly on his hands, twirling it around while he catches a glimpse of your green armor in his periphery.
The world seems to stop spinning for a second. All he could think about was you - the woman that he left to pursue a greater path.
How long has it been since he's last seen you? It has been at least a decade since his war in the Stepstones - and nothing has changed. Your face still held youth and beauty - eyes shining brightly and with purpose. You were wearing a golden armor - like the sun.
Fire could destroy, but all knelt to the sun.
You turned slowly to face him - blood dripping down your armor. "Is it really?" you raised an eyebrow, removing your helmet before remembering that he was an enemy too. He draws his sword - pointing at you. He didn't want you to take another step further. He couldn't bare to see you another step further.
Because to gaze upon those eyes means accepting the fact that you're real - accepting the fact that you're all he needs, and he couldn't do that. Not to Rhaenyra - not to his sons. "You have not changed," you breathed, circling his body with reluctance.
"You too." he replied, inhaling the scent of blood and ashes. How many times has the Rogue Prince fallen in love? One, only with you. "- the sun still favors your beauty" he could not resist to say.
A bitter chuckle escapes your mouth - he was an enemy, the very reason that the kingdom was in disharmony. "How will it end, Daemon?" you ask - referring to him with his proper name. His eyes soften - he's never heard you say his name before - you always referred to him with the endearments that he adored.
He drops his sword on the ground.
And you do the same.

(STEPSTONES 115 AC)
It was unusual to see a warrior lady in the battlefield - but bedding one? It was something for legends.
"My prince," you moaned feeling his cock tighten around your abused hole. He kept his hands firm around your waist while you bucked up and down, feeling your abdomen tighten with every thrust. "Gevie," he whispered with a clenched jaw.
If you were a common whore - he'd be ashamed at the rate of his submission - but you were ... amazing, for the lack of a better word. He pulls your face closer to his body - pressing another kiss to your lips. There were maidens that he fucked, never kissed - but you were different. You were more than them.
He feels his cock spasm inside your womb, emptying his seed. A loud exhale escapes your mouth, hands wrapped around his body. You attempt to stand up - but he pulls you back down. "Keep it in," he pleaded - and you relented.

Kinktober Day 5
Day Five: Threesome (Obi-wan x Satine x Handmaiden!reader)
Tumblr media
Warnings: smut under the cut, nsfw, 18+, FemBodied, FFM, power dynamics, referring to reader as Pet, fingering, p!inv!, Unprotected sex
Minors DNI
Words: 635
The Jedi code was very clear on attachments and falling in love, this was something Obi-wan knew for sure. It was forbidden, having sex however? A bit fuzzier of a subject. That’s why when Satine invited him to see her in her quarters during his visit to Mandalore. He was cautious, but optimistic. What he wasn’t expecting was when he entered her quarters was to find her handmaiden there, even less so was to find both women in just their undergarments, kissing.
“Sorry am I interrupting?” he ask with his classic smirk on his face
“Oh no Master Kenobi. Not at all.” Satine replies with a purr. “I was just getting our sweet pet here ready for us. Isn’t that right darling?”
“Yes Mistress.” The young woman replies breathlessly. Satine was quick to praise her with more kisses and using her delicate fingers stroking the fabric over her wet entrance. Obi-wan approaches the two women, he climbs on to the bed and quickly finds his lips on the handmaiden’s shoulder his arm wrapped around her holding her up as Satine pleasures her. His other hand on Satine’s thigh, squeezing gently, the softness of her skin on his hand familiar but at the same time so very forbidden.
“Now be a good pet, spread your legs for Master Kenobi, so he can get a good look at you.” Satine commands as she pulls the fabric of her underpants down and off her legs, gently pushing her legs apart. Obi-wan feels his mouth start to water slightly as he looks at her soft wet folds. A small mewling sound escapes the poor girl’s lips as she feels the cold air on her most sensitive area. Obi-wan finds him gravitating to her, his fingers slide up the slick folds and he brings them to his lips tasting her. As small hum of satisfaction comes from the Jedi master as after tasting the sweetness of this woman in front of him his lips are captured by Satine’s. As they kiss their tongues battling for dominance Obi-wan’s fingers stroke in and out of the handmaiden’s heat, his other hand working on the clasp of Satine’s bra, tossing it to the side and grasping her breast in his hand as they hold each other close.
“She is awfully beautiful… much like her mistress.” Obi-wan mutters as he breaks the kiss for a moment to admire the woman as he feels her walls tighten around his fingers as the move swiftly inside her, bringing her closer and closer to her release. But before she can find herself tipping the scales he pulls his fingers out, eliciting a whimper from her lips. “Hush now pet all in good time.” Satine says with a laugh on her lips as she positions herself on top of her. Satine reaches behind her and unclasps her bra before carefully taking one of her nipples in her mouth and her other in-between her fingers, rolling the sensitive nub back and forth. Obi-wan undresses himself, his member at full attention as he kneels between the legs of the women in front of him, he strokes his length in his hand as he watches the two enchanting goddesses in front of him. He carefully slides into the slick folds of the hand maiden as he slides Satine’s lace thong to the side and his fingers begin to circle her clit preparing her for him. Satine moans around the hardened nipple of the woman under her as he does this, the handmaiden’s fingers clutch the bedsheets firmly as she moans at the sensations she is experiencing. It’s almost overwhelming as she feels her eyes roll to the back of her head as she feels pleasure wracks her body as she feels the first of many orgasms she would experience that night.

Finished Felvidek and had a grand time!
Thought I'd do a lil list of things/moments/details I loved off the top of my head:
gave cursed coffee bean to a chicken and it mutated. Did it for science
game's got some twin peaks vibes, some monty python, a tad of hylics, along it a bunch of other ingredients, but it feels very much its own thing with its own identity
pear man and his daughters deserve the world, wish we hung out more
there's a fight with an invisible enemy, all your attacks miss because your guys can't see shit and I was laughing just imagining Pavol and Matej swinging their swords at nothing hoping to slay the forest fiend. Very Don Quixote, I love it.
the PS1 style cutscenes are sooooo beautiful I love them to pieces, they drip with style and charm. I knew I needed to give this game a go the moment I watched the trailer and was greeted by the cinematics. God I love them so much. And not just the syle but the directing itself, the way shots are framed, god...
I love the character portraits for everyone. There's so much detail and everyone feels unique/like an actual person with distinct features. From the Priest's very punchable face, to Pavol's grin to Josef's sexy ass... From main characters to NPCs to enemy sprites, I love everyone's design and colour coding (don't know if it was intentional but the purple for the cultists was neat, seemed to subtly imply early on that they were being funded by rich folk, since pruple is associated with nobility, power and wealth)
speaking of character design, shout-out to this lil guy, look at him please
Tumblr media
Numnut the drunkard my beloved, I recruited him and less than a minute later he fell on flat ground into a nearby river (and drowns???). I reloaded a previous save to see if I could have him in my party a lil longer. I took a different path, got into a fight. "yay I get to see him in action!"- I thought. I used his one special move, called: 'good idea', and Numnut proceeds to punch his own face, dealing 90 damage (not even in the endgame did I deal such high numbers!). THE Character of all time, he drowned again after that and I'll never forget him.
BALLOON IN THE MIDDLE AGES! (possible Andrei Rublev reference? I can dream...)
just, the way things are worded:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cutting people's ears after killing them as spoils (and giving the ears to a maiden, as you do)
Tumblr media
there's a quest where you have to cut a man's tattooed buttock to give to another guy, and it's all for nothing, you ruined a man's ass for nothing. I love it. The dialogue during this whole section had me dying.
I love that there's just this guy who lives in the castle's well. And our boy Pavol thinks it's a great idea to throw a bomb in there to make him come out.
this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's these lil inisghtful and mournfoul comments on the dead bodies you leave behind. Like, expressing regret at all the senseless violence and death or how cheap life is here. And I'm not sure if it's Pavol or Matej making them. It makes more sense for it to be Matej but I kinda like the idea of it being Pavol's comments, these small moments of introspection and realization in the midst of a drunken adventure. You've been engaging in all the violence while pissed drunk but then after you kill your opponents and look at their corpses... and it's like this sobering moment, before you're back at it with all the merry-making (I also like that a lot of these bodies don't disappear and just remain on screen, and you can see the carnage your guys leave behind in their quest)
the whole adventure felt to me like, this series of odd little events in a knight's life before it's passed down, told by and retold by different people, and after many generations it's been touched up and made more coherent and noble than the clusterfuck it actually was. Before it became a narrative I guess is what I mean
it can get a bit wordy and hard to follow but I really like the old timey way the dialogue is written and its dry sense of humour
there's these little subversions of gaming tropes that I found really fun too! Like as soon as Pavol's wife and your falling out with her is introduced you may expect a reconciliation between the two, or a moment where you have to save her and prove your worth and love to her to win her heart. As you would expect from a story with a knight and a damsel. But no she hates his guts lmao tries to murder him too! (tho I do think Pavol took her in that balloon ride at the end). There's also the fact that I am not allowed to play minigames! Josef wants to play tabletop games but your character always replies no. No minigames for you son! And like, this feels especially catered to me as someone who, more often than not, will dread whenever a game will introduce some sort of card game or the like. I was so happy that wasn't forced on me for once! Couldn't believe it. Kinda felt bad for Josef tho, I'm sorry Pavol doesn't wanna play Pexeso wth you.
the battle animations! I'm particularly fond of the eating porridge one, or the chugging down a bucket of sour cream, and the petard
the little *slaps face* animation
Pavol and Matej as a duo and the whole tavern scene with the two exchanging clothes
the lil moments of humanity where Pavol talks about his broken life and sense of self
the rare moments when Pavol stops grinning
Tumblr media
it goes without saying but the art is absolutely gorgeous. Its nostalgic monochrome melancholy speaks to me on a deep spiritual level. Inject it directly into my bone marrow please. Shout-out also to the ost, it fucks and has tons of bangers. The Hrad track, the one that plays on Josef's castle... god... love at first listen, and have been listening nonstop for the last few days now while going on walks.

Behold my Yugioh OC!
Amunet
Tumblr media
artwork done by the ever so talented @la-caja-de-pandoras-art 💖 (thank you very much!!)
Daughter of the moon, disciple of Khonsu, radiant maiden of darkness, and the Pharaoh’s love
In Ancient Egypt, Amunet was a priestess to the moon god Khonsu and served at one of his many temples. Originally, she was born and raised as a devotee to the Greek goddess Artemis and grew up in one of the goddess’ cults. Amunet’s childhood consisted of training, frolicking and sports, and dancing in Artemis’ name. But this childhood came to a dramatic end when Amunet’s cult was destroyed during a military campaign and she was left on her own. She was soon found by the high priest of Khonsu, who right away recognized immense spiritual power in her, and thusly took her in. From then on, Amunet grew into a living saint. She devoted her life to serving the moon and all it stood for. She herself was essentially a human incarnation of the moon: radiant, mysterious, pure, and powerful. She was a master archer, a healer to the body and soul, an oracle, a medium between this world and the next, and an exorcist of malevolent forces. It was rumored she was a child of Khonsu himself or a deity in disguise.
In actuality, Amunet balked at these rumors. She was far from what people thought her to be. Beneath her serene and flawless exterior and the isolated life she lived, Amunet was a free-spirited, happy-go-lucky young girl with strong emotions and opinions yet also an open heart and mind and an overall love for the world around her. She saw beauty and wonder in anything and was able to find a bright side in even the grimmest situations. She could be strong-willed and have a fiery temper, which came out most of all when someone was being hurt or injustice was done. Being energetic, she loved athletic activities like swimming and archery and, like most priestesses, she dabbled in singing and dancing. Amunet also loved games, her favorites being the ancient board game senet as well as riddles and puzzles, and she was very proficient in them thanks to her wit.
Amunet was selfless to the point she put others above her, even at her ownn expense. She could be very shy and, in spite of her reputation, she had low self-esteem. She also could feel lonely and isolated. Nevertheless, Amunet was content as a servant to the gods and helping others. She had no thoughts of falling in love nor did she expect to, which was why she took the vow of chastity, swearing off marriage and relationships in the name of the gods. At the end of the day, few realized that Amunet’s true power lied within her large, pure heart.
Then came the day she met the young pharaoh Atem. The two met when Amunet treated him after a grueling duel. Right away they clicked. Atem was fascinated by the young priestess and Amunet developed an attraction to him. It began with stolen glances and coming up with any excuse to be around the other. Atem became a patron to the temple of Khonsu (the very one Amunet just so happen to serve at) and the two frequently shared walks and game sessions (which were long and exciting due to the two being quite the match) and Amunet helped him hone his archery skills. It wasn’t long before a secret correspondence of coded letters and hidden rendezvous were added. A passionate love affair struck up.
Unfortunately, it all came to a tragic end: the true nature of Atem and Amunet’s relationship was either known or at least suspected by those closest to them, including Aknadin. He was horrified by the relationship and saw Amunet as a threat. She had to go.
Amunet died in her pharaoh’s arms. Needless to say, Atem was devastated. Amunet was mummified and entombed beneath a statue of Khonsu near the temple she served. Not long after, a small oasis formed there and grew beautiful lotuses. Strangely, the lotuses there would stay bloomed in the moonlight, rather than retreating like their kind normally do.

from Cliges, by Chretien de Troyes
Into the ship in which the King sailed there entered no youth or maiden save only Alexander and Soredamors, whom the Queen brought with her. This maiden was scornful of love, for she had never heard of any man whom she would deign to love, whatever might be his beauty, prowess, lordship, or birth.
Our heroine, Soredamors, starts as Aromantic-coded
And yet the damsel was so charming and fair that she might fitly have learned of love, if it had pleased her to lend a willing ear; but she would never give a thought to love.
Tumblr media
Now Love will make her grieve, and will avenge himself for all the pride and scorn with which she has always treated him. Carefully Love has aimed his dart with which he pierced her to the heart. Now she grows pale and trembles, and in spite of herself must succumb to Love.
Tumblr media
Only with great difficulty can she restrain herself from casting a glance toward Alexander; but she must be on her guard against her brother, my lord Gawain. Dearly she pays and atones for her great pride and disdain.
Girl is tryng hard not to look at Greek hottie Prince Sir Alexander.
Love has heated for her a bath which heats and burns her painfully. At first it is grateful to her, and then it hurts; one moment she likes it, and the next she will have none of it.
Tumblr media
She accuses her eyes of treason, and says: 211 "My eyes, you have betrayed me now! My heart, usually so faithful, now bears me ill-will because of you. Now what I see distresses me. Distresses? Nay, verily, rather do I like it well. And if I actually see something that distresses me, can I not control my eyes? My strength must indeed have failed, and little should I esteem myself, if I cannot control my eyes and make them turn their glance elsewhere.
Tumblr media
Thus, I shall be able to baffle Love in his efforts to get control of me. The heart feels no pain when the eye does not see; so, if I do not look at him, no harm will come to me. He addresses me no request or prayer, as he would do were he in love with me. And since he neither loves nor esteems me, shall I love him without return? If his beauty allures my eyes, and my eyes listen to the call, shall I say that I love him just for that? Nay, for that would be a lie. Therefore, he has no ground for complaint, nor can I make any claim against him. One cannot love with the eyes alone.
Tumblr media
What crime, then, have my eyes committed, if their glance but follows my desire? What is their fault and what their sin? Ought I to blame them, then? Nay, verily. Who, then, should be blamed? Surely myself, who have them in control. My eye glances at nothing unless it gives my heart delight. My heart ought not to have any desire which would give me pain. Yet its desire causes me pain. Pain? Upon my faith, I must be mad, if to please my heart I wish for something which troubles me. If I can, I ought to banish any wish that distresses me. If I can? Mad one, what have I said? I must, indeed, have little power if I have no control over myself. Does Love think to set me in the same path which is wont to lead others astray? Others he may lead astray, but not me who care not for him. Never shall I be his, nor ever was, and I shall never seek his friendship."
Tumblr media
Thus she argues with herself, one moment loving, and hating the next. She is in such doubt that she does not know which course she had better adopt. She thinks to be on the defence against Love, but defence is not what she wants. God!
She does not know that Alexander is thinking of her too! Love bestows upon them equally such a share as is their due. He treats them very fairly and justly, for each one loves and desires the other. And this love would be true and right if only each one knew what was the other's wish. But he does not know what her desire is, and she knows not the cause of his distress.

Anime Update V2 36
Wolf’s Rain - We hit the Road To Darcia’s Keep this time, and yes, I say it that way because this episode was literally a road trip starring Hubb and Quent. Was not asking for that, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it and really appreciated how these guys play off each other, and getting to see more backstory and perspectives from them. Cher just happening to come along at the end was a bit too convenient, but hey, it sets them on course to rescuing Cheza from Darcia along with the wolves plus Blue who are headed there too.
Hunter x Hunter - It’s the penultimate episode of the Phantom Troupe arc, and unexpectedly the tables seem to have been turned on the Spiders as Leorio, Melody, and Kurapika have taken Chrollo as a hostage, planning on bargaining with his life in exchange for getting Gon and Killua back. Except that Chrollo doesn’t seem the least bit threatened and it’s a struggle for Kurapika to avoid trying to kill him right there and then. Also, Hisoka still wants that fight with Chrollo, and something seems up with Pakunoda. How will this end?
Fruits Basket - I’m taking after @animebw here - after last week’s disappointing episode, I put this anime on hiatus. Until 2023, that is.
Rozen Maiden - Honestly, I’m not even sure I have much words to say regarding the climax of this anime. It has been a ride. I love how Adult Jun’s story has turned out, seeing the closure for Hinaichigo and the twins that the earlier anime was never able to give us felt very rewarding, and good lord I could watch an entire anime all about Suigintou and Megu, their characters and dynamic are that good. This anime could’ve ended right here and I’d be satisfied, but there’s some hanging threads that need to be touched upon in the final episode, so I’ll have more to say on that when I watch it next week.
Fate Zero - As the fight with Caster and his Cthulhu demon beast is underway, we’re treated to a dramatic confrontation between Tokiomi Tohsaka and Kariya Matou, and Ryonouske finally biting the dust with a sniper rifle bullet through his head just as he “discovered” his own beautiful red blood. Honestly, it couldn’t have happened sooner!
Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Real talk: I’ve been liking this anime well enough and finding it good, but I’d not been super engaged with it or found it great. It was always just good enough, but then wouldn’t really stay with me until next time I had to watch it...And then these climactic episodes come along and shit has hit the fucking fan. Genjuro comforts Chris regarding her parents’ tragic death and how her life has gone due to her jaded outlook and insistence on going it alone without any responsible adults in her life, leading to her joining with Hibiki and Tsubasa. A huge Noise attack is launched upon the city with the school being put in danger. Finé shows up in person and throws down with Genjuro (and I LOVE how there was no big reveal that she was Ryoko Sakurai all along ‘cause Genjuro and the rest had that figured out from the start, that was very refreshing!), Hibiki and Miku take their romantic subplot to a whole ‘nother level, and our heroines get a big confrontation with Finé as she brings a fucking tower out from the ground to try and shoot its top cannon into the moon in an effort to basically kill God, with the action culminating in Chris making a sacrifice play and singing her Swan Song. GEE-ZUS, this has gotten heavy as shit and I’m super engaged and need more!
AMC: Code Geass: Akito the Exiled - At long last, I finished what is easily the one Code Geass anime beside the original Lelouch of the Rebellion to come close to being really good. And I say it “comes close” because there’s still a lot of wasted potential here even by the time it’s all over. The final battle was appropriately intense and the snowy backdrop made it fitting to watch this time of year. Shin was just a great villain all the way to the end, with his and Akito’s conflict actually tugging at my heartstrings near the end. Leila had a pretty interesting conclusion to her arc that gives context to her own Geass connection and ties in with the series Myth Arc. Our magnificent bastardly trio got great resolution too (Yukiya pulled through and I love how Ayano disarmed Jean through empathy and compassion). And both scenes featuring Lelouch and Suzaku were golden. Yet ultimately, since R2 was already made and pre-determined how the course of this setting would go, the ending doesn’t feel like anything too big and like a lot of the intrigue from earlier installments just got swept under the rug. Gene Smilas’ entire character ends up feeling superfluous as he gets done in very fast and abruptly at the start of the ending scene. And I feel some characters like Ashley and Jean didn’t get enough time and focus on their development to make where they end up feel right. Overall not great, but just alright and worth a watch for those interested in a unique Code Geass direction.
AND
Adolescence of Utena - Movie adaptation of Utena. Was certainly quite the wild ride. And I do mean RIDE quite literally here! Utena was always committed to be artistic with its symbolism and mind screws, but I could always follow the story well enough. This movie pushes it to the extreme and much of what I saw took me a while to really grasp as a result. There are apparently some fans who interpret this movie as a continuation of the show’s narrative so that the loose ends are tied up and Anthy finally retrieves Utena from wherever she ended up after her big sacrifice. These people are lying to themselves and to others ‘cause this is clearly an entirely different reality where Ohtori Academy is a simulated fantasy that exists in the middle of nowhere on a post-apocalyptic Earth, Touga has a much different, much darker backstory where he ended up dying while still young and so the Touga we see in the present is a hallucinated projection of him, Utena and Shiori were both in love with Touga, Juri is the “prince” of the Student Council instead (and the one whose life Touga died saving), Nanami and Chu Chu only exist in a random comedic video (and Nanami’s in her cow form), the Shadow Play Girls are major players in the events, Akio got nowhere close to being what he was in the series before dying in a random fall out a window and Prince Dios is just an idealized vision of him of Anthy’s own making (sort of giving him what Nemuro/Souji Mikage had in the show), and people can turn into cars. Yes, people turn into cars, including Utena herself in the climax of the movie! That said, this climax of Anthy riding Utena to freedom away from Ohtori Academy is the most famous part of the movie and boy can I see why, it was actually really cool and I genuinely enjoyed myself while watching it. Mad Max: Yuri Road indeed! An overall decent sendoff to the series.

Exotica | It's Almost Time
Tumblr media
You knew it was bound to happen
The youngest girls weren't delivering letters anymore and Suna was rumored to commit Ashinuke • You gritted your teeth and staved your anger when you were told Warabihime was coming to visit later • It only made you question what on Earth will you do when the battle goes down • Yes you could evacuate people but what then • Would you be forced to watch outside the district as kamboko trio nearly die? • Hopefully not • But I mean with your current predicament you literally could do nothing • You just aren't equipped enough to be an asset to either Muzan or the demon slayers • You couldn't even train to do anything because your time was always occupied or monitored • You let out a sigh as you finished writing a letter for one of your clients • Sealing it with a red kiss mark you folded it so that it was ready to be delivered • "You know about the demon. Who is it?" • You jump to see the Sound Hashira just to the left of the door, leaning • You bite your tongue as you resist the urge to just go 'ahhh~those pecks, those biceps, those muscles!' • They really were so much flashier (and bigger) in person • You put a single finger to your lips before reaching for the door • "Rukia, what have I said about the watching?" • "S-sorry (N/n)--chan I just wanted to make sure nobody came to steal you away." • "And why would they do that?" • "Because your the most beautifullest Oiran-president in the world!" • You giggled at her enthusiasm • Patting her head and turning her away • "That's not the correct title for me. Maybe I should quiz you again." • "Hehe just kidding I remember the correct definition after all." • "If you say so Rukia."
• "Oh and by the way, is there a man in there with you?"
• "Nope. Why do you ask?"
• "I don't know just maybe thought I heard somethin' okay now bye!"
You waved until she disappeared behind the corner when she did you closed your doors directing your attention where the Hashira last stood to find nothing there:
Uzui decided to leave but he swore it wouldn't be the last time he would speak to you. When he first laid eyes on you it was when his wives were placed. Your parades had ended and after a few nights they would come to speak to you. Dragging you off to your designated room unveiling you and sharing all kinds of skinship. He didn't mind, of course your very difference makes you quite flashy so of course his wives would be drawn to you. What he wasn't pleased with was that this same similarity was seen with all three of them who disappeared within the months that followed. Their letters, while in code, would detail information there'd be quite a lot about you. "Exotica: their beauty is beyond compare and their knowledge rivals yours Uzui-sama." "They have been a tremendous help in my endeavors here I wonder if they know." "Uzui-sama! Uzui sama can we keep them!" He wasn't used to their direction being so focused on you. Worried you might be the demon who used that flashy and covering costume to hide yourself from the sun he began to stalk you with the best he could. It was hard with all the eyes anyway but with special snowflakes like this Rukia it was harder. Adept to sound and being extremely quiet herself he couldn't get close not without her tatting and maybe warning the demon. Unfortunately she often hung around you as she was one of your hand maidens. But he watched and waited until you were alone. When he finally got you alone he had planned to immediately appear behind you to threaten you or even attack; you could be a demon after all. But when he got in the room you didn't notice him at all, you pursed your lips and puffed your cheeks turning from gazing out the window back to your little desk where you continued to write something. He didn't want to interrupt you. Your focused gaze your flitting plume, beyond his amazement that you could write in the first place to see you so vehement reminded of him of when he watched young shinobi train. No that wasn't it. That wasn't as lively as what you were doing now. He waited, watching as you teasingly mouthed the paper not enough to wet it but just enough to leave your mark. In a flash he couldn't stop the image of you doing the same to him. But he pushed it away as quickly as it came. That would be something to dream about later, for now he'd focus on trying to confront you. And he tried but that soundless child just had to interrupt. He didn't mind seeing you interact with her though. You had this air of wisdom and nurturing as you kept her curiosity at bay. He's thought about having kids I mean it is the reason why he has three wives. And according to their letters they didn't seem to mind your company at all. He agreed with himself: if his wives were still alive and he was able to defeat this demon and come back alive he would ask. But for now all he needed to worry about was getting some women to infiltrate the houses. There were some of those at the Butterfly Mansion, right.

Penny Polendina alludes to Astro Boy - and how this allusion foreshadows Penny’s eventual resurrection
Some of you may remember my first post in which I compared Penny and Astro Boy, with a specific focus on the version of Astro from the 2009 3D animated film (if not, you can read it here, but I'll be repeating everything stated there anyway). In the month or two since I first made that post, more and more parallels have start to pop up, with one of those parallels matching one of our most popular theories and foreshadowing Penny's upcoming resurrection.
In order to write this, I went through and watched the entire film, taking notes as I went. I'm not going to include every single detail that I noticed, only the things that seem the most relevant and can be put together in a single post in a comprehensive manner. Believe me when I say that I've thought about this a lot, and the sheer amount of parallels and connections (and the fact that I'm not the only one to notice these connections) has lead me to believe that this has been done intentionally.
With that being said, I'm only going to focus on the Astro Boy film from 2009 - the Astro Boy franchise is massive, going back to the first manga coming out in 1952 with a few different adaptations and reboots with different versions of the story, and I just don't have the time to go through all of those. As such, I'm going to be focusing on the movie, due to the fact that it has the highest amount of parallels to both Penny specifically, and RWBY as a whole.
So, let's get into this.
Worldbuilding
Metro City and the Surface - Atlas and Mantle
One of the reasons I've decided to focus on the film in particular is due to the nature of the film's setting. Astro Boy (2009) takes place in two locations - Metro City, and the Surface.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to the opening of the film, Metro City was created when the people who would become the founders of the city noticed the world changing for the worse, and responded by taking part of the land and lifting it into the sky, creating a floating city - the opening voiceover refers to it as "an oasis, a floating paradise". Everybody else is left behind on what is referred to as the Surface, left to fend for themselves while the people of Metro City largely ignore their existence.
Tumblr media
The parallels to Atlas and Mantle are crystal clear. Atlas and Metro City are both set up as a beautiful city above the clouds, meant to serve as an inspiration for the rest of the world. In reality, it's a place where the rich and privileged can live in comfort while shunning the poor. Meanwhile, down in Mantle/on the Surface, people are suffering and struggling to get by. Additionally, both 'surface' and 'mantle' are words that are associated with the ground.
The Blue Core (and the Red Core) - Penny's soul and Maiden powers.
Another concept that is (as far as my research shows at least) unique to the film is the Blue Core and the Red Core.
Tumblr media
The Blue Core is a small sphere that is filled with pure positive energy, referred to as Blue Core Energy. It was created by Dr. Elefun, made from the fragments of a star that no longer exists - meaning that the Blue Core is all that's left, and cannot be recreated. This is reminiscent of how Pietro has no more aura left to spare, and thus is unable to give any more of his soul to Penny like he did the first time she died. In this allusion, the Blue Core is representative of Penny's soul and the power of the Winter Maiden.
When the Blue Core was created, there was also a byproduct - the Red Core. Essentially, it's the same thing as the Blue Core, but with negative energy instead of positive. If the Blue Core and the Red Core make contact, they both die - this is relevant later.
You could compare the Red Core to Watts’ virus, due to the way that it causes a robot to have red eyes and that it coming into contact with the Blue Core destroys them both.
Character Parallels
Before I get into this properly, I wanna give a quick side note. While Astro matches up to Penny perfectly, things get a little bit messier with the others in that we have a case of characters taking on multiple roles. However, this is far from unheard of in RWBY - let's not forget about how Blake represents both Belle and the Beast, Yang is sometimes the Beast to Blake's Belle, and Adam is an amalgamation of every antagonistic force in Beauty and the Beast. It's far from uncommon for a character to allude to multiple characters from the same allusion, or vice versa, which is what we see with some of the characters in this allusion as well.
Astro - Penny Polendina
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unsurprisingly, Astro himself is our parallel to Penny.
After the death of his son Toby, Dr. Tenma rebuilds his son as a robot, using the Blue Core as his energy source. The Blue Core is stated to be unpredictable, and it's this that makes Astro who he is, what makes him unique from every other robot. As stated earlier, the Blue Core represents Penny's soul (and the Winter Maiden powers that are attached to it). When the Blue Core dies - and Astro dies with it - and Dr. Elefun is asked if he can be rebuilt, the answer is 'no' because the Core was unique and can't be remade - just like Penny's soul.
While Astro appears perfectly human on the surface, he's fitted with as much self-defence technology as Tenma could fit in him. The most iconic of these upgrades (and the only one that's consistent across every single version of Astro throughout the franchise) is the rocket boots. He even flies in a very similar way to Penny - pay attention to the posing, especially with the legs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Astro starts making friends with humans on the Surface, he conceals the fact that he's a robot, afraid of what they'll think of him when they learn he's not human. This matches up to Penny initially hiding the fact that she's not human, seeing herself as 'not a real girl'.
Tumblr media
Astro has two father figures - Dr. Elefun and Dr. Tenma. Similarly, Penny has two father figures - Pietro and Ironwood.
Tumblr media
During the climax of the film, Metro City starts to fall out of the sky and back down to the Surface. This is a parallel to two seperate moments in RWBY. The most obvious one is when Atlas is falling onto Mantle after the Staff of Creation is used. However, I think this scene more closely resembles the scene from Amity in which Amity Tower begins to fall.
When Astro sees that Metro City is falling, he immediately flies in to hold it up, despite the incredible strain it puts on him. This is a direct parallel to how Penny flew in to hold up Amity Tower.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astro pushes himself to the limit when he holds up Metro City, to the point where the flames from his boots burn so brightly that they turn blue - oh hey, doesn't that look familiar?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astro also demonstrates self-sacrificial tendencies at a few points in the film. When he's captured in order to have his Blue Core taken out and placed into another robot, he simply accepts it, saying that "I think maybe this is what's supposed to happen...this is my destiny". This becomes a lot more interesting when you remember that the Blue Core is representative of Penny's soul and Maiden powers. Astro giving himself up to President Stone (the film's main antagonist who later ends up in a sort of 'fusion' with the Red Core) so that Stone can use the Blue Core could be a reference to the virus making Penny want to give herself up to Ironwood so that he can use her soul to open the vault - especially if we believe that the Red Core is connected to the virus in some way.
Near the end of the film, in the fight against the fusion of President Stone and a giant robot containing the Red Core (it's a long story, I'll get to it later in the post), Astro makes the decision to sacrifice his own life in order to destroy both the Red Core and the Blue Core, saying “this is what I was created for” and saving the lives of everybody else in the process. I doubt I need to explain how "choosing to die in order to protect other people" relates back to Penny in Volume 8.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the film, and in the rest of the Astro Boy franchise as a whole, Astro takes it upon himself to be the protector of Metro City (and technically the Surface, but since Metro City has fallen, they're not exactly seperate locations anymore...). 'Robotic guardian of a city who's seen as a hero by the people' - you don't get much more obvious of a connection to the Protector of Mantle than that.
Additional details that may not be intentional but I still noticed anyway;
- Dr. Elefun describes as Astro by saying "That robot had more humanity than most of us". At this point, there's been many moments that affirm Penny's humanity - "You have an aura, Penny. A soul. That's who you are - our friend. Not a machine", "Her soul is who she is", the fact that she was able to receive the Maiden powers, all of these moments affirm that Penny has always been just as human as anybody else. This is also contrasted against Ironwood (and, for a while, Winter), who act more machine than human.
- Astro is actually rather heavily trans-coded. Penny is also trans-coded, but this is mostly likely a coincidence that happened as a result of the inherent transness of robots
- Elefun tells Astro that he's "not actually an entirely ordinary boy", which is reminiscent of Ruby describing Penny as "she's...not your typical girl."
- The shape of Penny's bow (the way that it sticks out more on one side while the other side is more vertical) looks similar to the shape of Astro's hair (this one was pointed out to me by @cosmokyrin when I mentioned this theory in the Frosen Steel server)
Dr. Elefun - Pietro Polendina
Dr. Elefun is one of Metro City's top scientists, and one of Astro's father figures. He is soft-spoken and gentle, a dreamer but a genius. In terms of personality alone, he's a pretty good match with Pietro. He's also the one who created the Blue Core, which draws a direct parallel to Pietro creating Penny's soul from part of his.
Dr. Elefun is the first person to truly see Astro as who he truly is. Dr. Tenma expects Astro to be a replacement for Toby, and is disappointed when he isn't. Similarly, everybody else sees Astro as a robot just like any other at first - an advanced robot, but nothing more than a robot. But Dr. Elefun gives him genuine praise, and encourages Astro to live his life and find his place in the world, just like how Pietro tells Penny that he wants to see her live her life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's also worth noting that in most other versions of Astro Boy, Elefun takes the role of Astro's primary caregiver after Dr. Tenma no longer wants him.
President Stone - James Ironwood
President Stone is the current political leader of Metro City. For the entire film, his entire focus is on combat and military strength, and on multiple occasions he actively expresses his intention to start a war with the Surface. He believes that the best way to get re-elected is with a show of military force and violence.
Tumblr media
His primary goal throughout the film is to have Astro destroyed in order to retrieve the Blue Core and use it for his own gain. This is a direct parallel to Ironwood's goal in Volume 8 - to hunt down Penny and have her use her Maiden power to open the vault, and destroy herself.
Stone wants to use the Blue Core in order to power a specialised combat robot, ironically called the Peacekeeper. When Astro continues to escape his clutches, he decides to use the Red Core to power the Peacekeeper instead, but it doesn't completely go as planned. The Peacekeeper is equipped with what the film calls 'adaptive technology' - it's capable of absorbing anything it makes contact with into its own body.
And I do mean anything
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Stone is absorbed by the Peacekeeper, he's in full control of it - essentially the Peacekeeper is nothing more than a metal outer shell. President Stone has become a fusion of man and machine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dr. Tenma - both Pietro Polendina AND James Ironwood (a bit more Pietro than Ironwood but it's worth acknowledging both)
You might notice that while Elefun and Stone do have plenty of references to Pietro and Ironwood respectively, there are gaps where they don't cover every aspect of these characters and/or their dynamic with Penny. This is where Dr. Tenma comes in.
Dr. Tenma is Astro's dad, and the one who built him. He originally created Astro as a sort of 'replacement' for his biological son Toby after he died, giving Astro all of Toby's memories (more on this later). Naturally, this is a very clear connection to Pietro.
Additionally, Dr. Tenma uses the Blue Core - a completely unique, one-of-a-kind technological marvel - in order to power a single small robot that's intended to be nothing more than a replacement for his son, saying "I can't lose him again!". In this moment, Dr. Tenma is so focused on not losing his child that he doesn't acknowledge the big picture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, once Dr. Tenma realises that Astro isn't a perfect replica of Toby, but rather his own person, Tenma discards him, not caring if Astro gets destroyed or not. Similarly, when Penny stopped doing what Ironwood wanted her to do, Ironwood stopped caring about her as anything more than a container for the Maiden powers and is perfectly willing to let her die once the vault is opened.
Luckily, Dr. Tenma does have a change of heart, deciding that while Astro isn't Toby, he's still his son. Near the end of the film, Astro is very injured, and Dr. Tenma encourages him to get far away from the danger. However, Astro refuses to back down, instead choosing to sacrifice his life in order to stop President Stone, despite Dr. Tenma begging him not to go. Here, we have yet another parallel to this moment in Amity.
Tumblr media
Bonus (aka characters that aren't perfect allusions, but connections do exist)
When Astro ends up on the Surface, he's taken in by a man who calls himself Hamegg. Hamegg ends up being a jerk, and while his personality and actions in the film don't particularly match up with any characters in RWBY, his backstory is a perfect match to Watts - a head scientist in Metro City who was shunned and fired for reasons unknown (Hamegg claims that they were 'intimated by his ideas and talent', but this was when he was trying to impress Astro and he lies a lot anyway, so this could be a complete lie).
Tumblr media
On the Surface, Astro befriends four human kids (Cora, Zane, Sludge and Widget) and their robotic dog, Trashcan. While the personalities don't really match up (though Cora, Astro's closest friend, does bear a visual resemblance to Ruby), the idea of a 4-person group + a dog could be a parallel to Team RWBY and Zwei.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zog is a very old, very large robot that had been 'dead' for several years until Astro found him and revived him by giving him some of his Blue Core Energy. Zog is our allusion to Winter - Astro giving Zog some of his Blue Core energy is a parallel to Penny giving Winter the Maiden powers. Additionally, in The Final Word, Winter explicitly calls herself a machine. While this does have significance on it's own, it could also be a nod to this allusion. That being said, the main connection between Winter and Zog (and possibly the most important part of this post) is based on events that have yet to happen in RWBY canon, and so I'm saving that part for the end of the post.
Tumblr media
Story Parallels
Toby's Death
Toby Tenma, Dr. Tenma's biological son, was very similar to Astro in terms of personality (with some key differences), as well as having a strong physical resemblance.
When the Blue Core and the Red Core were first being shown off to President Stone, Toby was accidentally locked behind a sealed off barrier, trapped with the Peacekeeper containing the Red Core. Toby was killed in a blast that completely disintegrated him, leaving nothing but a hat containing a single strand of hair.
This hair is important, because Dr. Tenma used this hair in order to extract Toby's DNA and memories, which he was then able to implant into Astro in order to make him resemble Toby.
This scene is most likely a parallel to Penny's first death in the Vytal Festival. In her first death, Penny's body was destroyed, but her core remained intact. Her core, which contained all of her memories, was the key piece in properly putting her back together without erasing who she used to be. The strand of hair containing Toby's DNA is representative of Penny's core containing her memories.
Additionally, there's the fact that when Toby was rebuilt as Astro, he was given various upgrades to allow him to better hold his own in a fight, with the most obvious behind the ability to fly via rocket boots. Penny received similar upgrades when she was rebuilt as well.
It's worth acknowledging that Toby's death could potentially parallel the moment that Ambrosius separated Penny from her robotic body, with the strand of hair instead being her soul, separated from her dying body and then disintegrating. However, due to the timeline and order of events, I think that Toby's death is more likely to be a parallel to Penny's first death, and her separation from her robot body is instead a parallel to the next scene I'm about to mention.
Momentary Death
When Astro is captured by President Stone and taken back to Metro City, Dr. Tenma actually does remove the Blue Core from his body, which does cause Astro to temporarily die.
Tumblr media
Luckily, it only takes a few moments for Dr. Tenma to change his mind and return the Blue Core to Astro, reviving him.
Astro's 'soul' was removed from his body, causing that robotic body to die, even though in the end Astro does survive it. This is reminiscent of Ambrosius removing Penny's soul from her robotic body, letting that body die, while Penny survives.
Tumblr media
Zog
I briefly went over Zog earlier, but I wanna go into more in-depth about him, because the parallels between Winter and Zog and the implications of said parallels are the main reason I ultimately decided to make this post.
As I said earlier, Zog is a very old, broken down robot that nobody has been able to revive in years. When Astro finds him, he brings him back to life by giving him some of his Blue Core Energy. Astro essentially gives Zog some of his lifeforce, a part of his soul.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Winter was on the verge of death at Ironwood's hands, but Penny was able to save her by giving her the Maiden powers, and her soul with them.
Tumblr media
However, Zog doesn't keep all of the Blue Core Energy Astro gave him all to himself...
Resurrection
As I've mentioned a few times in this post, Astro does die - and I mean properly die, not a death that lasted 2 minutes at the most and had no consequences. Astro sacrifices himself and his Blue Core dies, all in attempts to protect the people of Metro City/the Surface and his friends. Dr. Elefun says that he can't be rebuilt because his Blue Core, his soul, was unique.
Tumblr media
But then, Zog comes around. Zog, who is holding onto what is a part of Astro's soul - the only surviving part of Astro's soul. Zog returns some of the Blue Core Energy to Astro, which brings Astro back to life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, to recap: Astro gives a part of his lifeforce, part of his soul, to Zog. When Astro dies, Zog gives some of that soul back to Astro in order to revive him.
If you've been looking at the theories regarding Penny and Winter recently, this will sound VERY familiar. While the specifics vary, the essentials of the most popular theory is that Penny transferred her soul to Winter to hold on to along with the Maiden powers, and that somehow, Winter will return that soul to Penny in one way or another (either by putting her into another robotic body, or just somehow extracting her soul and letting it form it's own body again). The fact that this movie has these exact events occurring makes this seem more and more like the most likely route.
If Penny really is an intentional allusion to Astro Boy - which, based on the sheer length of this post, seems pretty damn likely - then the film practically spells it out for us. Winter will give part of her aura, the part that Penny gave her, in order to bring Penny back to life.
thank you for coming to my ted talk

Jaebeom and the glass slippers
Jaebeom x fem!reader (fluff)
A fairy tale in bullet points 🤓
________________________________________
first of all... Jaebeom as a prince! (we could leave it there)
- so you are a fair maiden (or at least fair-minded which is way better) and you work in your Stepmoms shop
- when the door opens
- and a prince stumbles in
- with a list in his hands and a confused look on his face
- prince Jaebeom has to prepare a ball (because he made a side comment over dinner that it isn't that hard to prepare a ball and his mom was like “really? how about you do the next one? on your own???)
- but Jaebeom wouldn’t be Jaebeom if he wouldn’t figure it out... slowly
- and so he realized that he needs flowers. A lot of them
- and your shop was the first he saw in town
-So he walks in “I need all your flowers. For Saturday.”
- and you are shocked because THE PRINCE but also... Saturday?
- he starts to explain (very seriously might I add... talks about Music preparations, food decorations and what Calligraphy to use on the invites)
- you don’t know if you should laugh, try to keep a straight face please
- finally he looks at you expactantly and you have to admit that he is kind of cool... preparing a ball even tho he has no clue
- “Saturday is in five days... the flowers will be dead by then. You would need new once. And also we don't have enough for the entire castle. Don't you have a royal flower field for events like this?”
- “A what?”
- and that is how you become his personal assistent... at least until Saturday... and in secret... because his pride is on the line!
- He comes to you with every decision
- and you are the first one to tell him about “themes” and “Colour codes”
- it takes him exactly five seconds to pick one
- “my mom,” he says. “I want the theme to be my mom”
- and you dye a little on the inside because he looks so cute
- now the problem is that you never met the queen... and know nothing of her (besides that she is kind and beautiful and has raised the man before you)
- so everything falls on Jaebeoms shoulders... again
- and he looks a bit lost... again
- and you can’t resist to help... again
- he thanks you with a bright smile that wouldn’t leave his face for the rest of the day
- for a moment he got scared you would leave him alone... but you stayed and now he feels like dancing on rainbows
- the things the queen likes are: Flowers (check), exotic birds (a bit more difficult to get), fine music (rearrange the orchestra) and SHOES (specially odd once)
- you try to come up with ideas to combine these things and end up with decorations so colorful and fragil that it looks like bird feathers or nests, a buffet arranged on an ice swan, and flowers arranged in glass slippers
- to get actual glass slippers... is a nightmare... and almost impossible
- but Jaebeom is stubborn
- and a little sleep deprived
- and so he runs all around town to find a glass artist who could help him
- at this point you are so invested in the whole thing, that it breaks your heart when you see him on Friday and he just shakes his head. no glass slipper
- so you change the glass slippers to normal vases (boring)
- you convince Jaebeom to get some sleep and he leaves with his frown still on
- now you are the one that can’t sleep...
- because Jaebeom looked so sad... over a glass slipper
- and in the middle of the night you sneak up on your roof, look up to the stars and make a wish
- when you come down, your stepmom waits for you in your room
- “Where have you been?” (it IS pretty late)
- you tell her about the wish and Jaebeom and the glass slippers and your whole week and all (it kind of comes out in one big rush)
- your stepmom listens
- and then she thinks
- and then she smiles
- “Come with me”
- she takes you to the basement (not the roof! you went to the wrong place) and shows you an old wooden box
- “This are my grandmothers shoes. And I think you know what there are.”
- turns out her grandma was Cinderella!
- (also the reason she is an AMAZING stepmom... learn from the past and all)
- she gives you the two slippers (actual glass slippers)
- “I only have two... but maybe that's enough for a little surprise”
- now you can’t sleep for real!
- all night long you lay in bed and images Jaebeoms face when you show him the slippers
- Saturday comes and you go to the castle to help with the preparations (glass slippers safely in the box under your arm)
- so many people are there and everything is so busy that you only find Jaebeom when it is afternoon
- as soon as he sees you, he grins, a tired grin, but still beautiful (when is he not?)
- “I have something for you,” you tell him
- and pull out the box
- when he sees the glass slippers he looses it
- he laughs, and claps, and gives you a big hug
- and you turn bright red... because you haven't been hugged like that in.... forever
- he takes the slippers (carefully) and places them next to the throne of his mother
- than he takes some flowers from the next vase and starts to arrange them
- you watch him and can't stop the warm feeling in your chest. the prince is truly amazing
- when he is done, he beams with pride
- “I have something for you too” he says
- guess what... he prepared a ball gown
- right size and all
- “I tried the colour coding thing” he says and shows you the matching suit for himself
- and you almost start to giggle uncontrollable (almost)
- “Thank you for all your help,” he says in a calm voice. “I feel like you have been my personal fairy godmother”
- being called a fairy godmother was never this romantic.. but it comes from him and you take it
- “It was my pleasure,” you say and realize that this is probably the last day you see him. which brings tears to your eyes
- he sees them immediately, and knows what you feel
- “Do we have to say goodbye after tonight?” you ask
- “I find an excuse to see you”
- you change and then he takes you to the ball.
- and it is beautiful!
- Flowers, music, food, candles, weather, people, fireworks... everything is sooo beautiful
- the queen is proud of her son
- and she loves the idea with the glass slippers... orders a painting competition with them as theme
- she will not get over them for the next few months
- and Jaebeom grins and puffs up his chest a bit
- and he dances with you
- and dances with you
- and then lets someone else dance with you
- and then cuts in and dances with you
- and then its over
- and your back in your shop, arranging flowers (which you love... but it isn't the same anymore)
- when the door opens
- and a prince stumbles in
- with a wooden box in his hand
- “You forgot your glass slippers,” he grins

Does the artist family have a creature like the hand called Thing?
Meet That, the Artists’ companion who often helps around the house
Tumblr media
That lives in an old makeup carrier which is now being used to hold Marinette’s sewing supplies
Tumblr media
That’s roles around the house include getting the mail, holding Nathaniel’s paint brushes, being a book stand for when Marc reads, helping Marinette sew, painting nails, clipping the right wire so Alix doesn’t blow up the house, dying Juleka’s hair, and digging holes for Rose to hide her landmines
Whenever he’s not helping the Artists out, That can be seen arm wrestling with Nathaniel or skateboarding on an old roller skate
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since That can’t talk, he has to snap his fingers to grab people’s attention, and use Morse code to communicate.
Sometimes the Artists don’t always understand him.
That: *Taps, ‘Rose is trapped in the Iron Maiden.’*
Nathaniel: What’s that, That? A rabid dog is stuck in the well? I’ll get him out! *Leaves*
That: *Taps, ‘Screw you.’*
That recently took up sign language since Morse Code wasn’t working
A running gag is when visitors shake the Artists’ hands, including That before recoiling in shock when they realize who and what they just shook hands with
That will often model Juleka and Marc’s gloves since they all wear the same size
Juleka: *As That models her glove* Alright, now give me a thumbs up.
That: *Thumbs up*
Juleka: Beautiful.
That can get a little “handsy” from time to time, mainly with Marc
Marc: *Blushes* Nathan, wait until we’re in the crematorium.
Nathaniel: No, Monochrome, that was That. *Lifts up the hem of Marc’s dress, revealing That* Quit it. He’s already got a pair of hands.
He often sneaks into DuPont, which causes some peoples’ hair to go white from shock when they see a moving severed hand
Kim: Max... I need you to be very honest with me, okay? Now... Is there a spider on my back? *Turns around, revealing That*
Max: No. *Kim sighs* It’s a severed hand. *Kim runs away screaming*
Bustier: Now, where is my lesson plan? *That hands it to her* Oh, thank you... *Faints*
Mme. Mendelive has spent weeks trying to figure out how a severed hand can move on its own
The art teacher, Adrien, Nino, and Alya are the only ones, sans The Artists, who aren’t disturbed by That’s presence
Nino: Hey guys, mind if I borrow That for a moment? I’ve got a little assignment for him. *Cue thunder and lightning*
Juleka: Does it involve traumatizing Gabriel?
Nino: Duh. That’s my whole brand.
Juleka: Knock yourself out.
Whenever Adrien wants to sneak out when he supposed to be practicing his piano, That will play for him, allowing Adrien to sneak out (Now that Gabriel’s been losing his mind (Nino), it’s so much easier)
Alya likes That, but hates when he scurries off with her phone, signing that she needs “Breaks” and to “Limit her screen-time”
And the Art Teacher is just used to the Artists’ antics, so a severed hand is no big deal, honestly.

am i the only one who feels that the reapers lost or don’t have any “humanity”??? like, with sebastian it’s different cause he’s a demon. he isn’t really supposed to have any but with the reapers, they used to be human. they killed them selves when they where human. and they “work” with them since they have to watch them die.
I doubt you are the only one, but I can only agree with you to an extent. I think it varies somewhat from reaper to reaper.
Grelle probably acts the least human, with those shark teeth, the change to a chainsaw for a death scythe (that’s one of William’s charges against Grelle — a new, unauthorized death scythe modification), the blood lust that led to extra human deaths, the ability to compare Campania’s maiden voyage to a rough “first time”. However, even the blood lust and the overly sexual jokes about death and destruction are not outside the range of human desires, emotions, and actions. They are all just rather negative. Grelle, particularly early on in the series, acts like a human with a personality disorder — a sociopath, perhaps even a psychopath. By the time you get to ch149, though, Grelle seems to show signs of self reflection and something outside of selfishness. Hard to tell what’s going on; it’s like Yana-san hasn’t settled on Grelle’s personality. Maybe neither has Grelle. Which really makes me wonder what punishments are actually like for reapers who break the codes of their realm and office. Somehow, I don’t think suspension from work is quite as simple and... uneventful... as not being on duty for a while.... (Tampering with their cinematic records might part of it??)
William tries to be as non-human as he can, making him seem almost mechanical. But I don’t think he is that way inside. I see him as having plenty of human feelings but trying his best to hide them — even deny them — because he thinks such things can only be a distraction at work. His reminders to Ronald to remain objective might be for his own “benefit”. What benefit there is. Being so objective with his decisions, he is unlikely to see any human as worthy of saving. And that could hinder his own salvation... if that’s even a real incentive. The promise of salvation could be a lie. I’m hoping his objectivity breaks, at some point.
Sascha clearly enjoys being a reaper, but they seem very new to the job, and we haven’t even seen their death scythe. Just a camera (that Yana-san implies isn’t a death scythe, though it could be one in disguise, like Undertaker’s main sotoba), the death list, and a dossier. After decades, let alone centuries, of this... day in and day out... Sascha should start to feel worn down by it all. Even now, Sascha understands why some reapers might desert their posts. Most of those reasons seem pretty “human” in nature, don’t they?
I don’t have much to say about Ludger/Rudgar, except that he isn’t into being a reaper nearly as much as Sascha, and he takes a rather practical approach to his work. He’s like William but less detached in his attitude. He is openly more human. Less interested in the work than Sascha, less excited about the prospects of humanity’s destructive behaviors, humans making history and technological advancements, and more work for reapers to do.
Othello strikes me as a wild card who flips back and forth between bored slacker and obsessed nut-job. He clearly likes what he does... which isn’t collecting souls. Even though Undertaker is being labeled as the mad scientist of the bunch, this label should definitely apply to Othello, too. What might have started out as curiosity for Undertaker has taken a dramatically personal and emotional turn, but Othello is the sort (I think) who will truly cut you open and poke around for the pure joy of it.
Yana-san officially did not create Eric or Alan’s personalities or write their storyline; she only created their visual designs. Therefore, she can only lay claim to their images. However, giving them a cameo in ch105 suggests she’s accepted the core of their story into manga canon. They are the only examples of deserters we have, besides Undertaker, and if anything from The Most Beautiful Death in the World is to be taken at face value, it’s that their personal reasons for deserting their posts are very human emotions of fear, pain, love, and a sense of loss.
The least “human” aspect of Ronald might be his gruesome and demeaning choice of a lawnmower for his death scythe. He’s the one William warns to be vigilant about objectivity, and, during the circus and Campania arcs, Ronald shows no problem doing that. Overtime and extra paperwork suck, after all. However, the latest chapter, as of this post (ch174), suggests he might be considering Ada for the first “shinigami pass” of the series. Too early to tell, but that could be where his latest activity at Athena Sanatorium is headed. If so, then he’s quite human in his behavior, after all.
I have nothing much to say about Lawrence “Pops” Anderson, since we haven’t seen him in the manga. Seems to me he is in the canon, and that’s about it. He makes the custom glasses for reapers. He’s been around as a reaper for a long time. I have a crack theory regarding those glasses, but I’ll let someone ask me for it in a 🤡 ask....
Undertaker is actually quite human in his emotional range, imho. Sure, he’s got that mad scientist vibe going, but he’s a naturally curious sort, laughs deeply, loves deeply, misses his loved ones deeply, and he’s willing to go to great lengths to hold onto what’s left. He’s what someone like William or Ronald could become... if they let themselves feel about humans. Let’s not forget Undertaker must have discovered something about the reaper organization that the other reapers we’ve been introduced to probably don’t (yet) have a clue about. It has changed him from the “epitome” of a reaper he used to be (136649) into someone willing to destroy the entire reaper organization.
Um, anyway.... My thoughts on the “humanity” of the reapers. 😬 ☺️
