I've noticed people in Dracula Daily complaining about adaptations that make it sexier, wanting adaptations that depict Dracula as terrifying rather than alluring. Or that emphasize the horror of the Harkers' experience, especially Mina's.
If that sounds like you, or if you just want an emotional, gothic horror that depicts vampires as terrifying, I cannot recommend Daniel: A Grave Tale of Horror enough. (Website Taptastic Webtoon)
Daniel isn't an adaptation of Dracula, though it does take some influence. It's an original vampire story set in 1930s Illinois, about a woman named Christine whose childhood friend suddenly vanishes, and about what happens when he suddenly returns. The whole comic is finished now, so you can read it from beginning to end.
The writing is fantastic. It shows how terrifying it would be to have a vampire's attention. The horror of being turned against your will, being helpless as an unstoppable, corrupting force takes you over. The pain of seeing someone you love become something incomprehensible and terrible. The conflicting emotions of pity, grief, fear and hatred that rise from it.
I was initially a little neutral on the art, but the further I got into the story, the more it added for me. The acting, blocking and shadows all help it look like a black and white film from the thirties, something that might have come out around the time the story is set.
If you're interested in reading Daniel, be sure to take the content warnings seriously. This is a true horror story, it gets very dark and at times, very graphic. Make sure it's something you're prepared to expose yourself to before you read!
