anw hanbin was born broke as shit ill b honest he was put up for adoption @ gangnam orphanage as a newborn god knows why ( jk it's prob bc he's the product of some illicit affair or smt )

he gets adopted j shy of his first bday by philanthropists slash the yoon chaebols ( specifically the ones in charge of the hotel chain!! ) who took helping the less fortunate to the next level ( think angelina jolie )!! he's currently the only adopted child of theirs and they have 2 more kids after him who are both biological children so yeah ngl hanbin has some feelins ab that

said feelins are: growin up a rich kid to chaebols often means that they're far too busy to take care of u even tho it's not like they don't want to so naturally hanbin n sibs deal w some neglect even tho it's compensated w lots of money n maids thrown at them BUT the point is despite facing the same level of neglect as his sibs he kinda takes it personally n thinks maybe ?? it's bc he's adopted OR did they j adopt him for the good publicity despite havin no evidence of this ?? yea gr8 logic

despite that overall he's honestly a p nice kid?? plays w other kids well and doesn't yk misuse his wealth or family's status for Evil or no good he kinda is just vibin frankly

one thing ab hanbin tho is that he is a serial monogamist bc of his upbringing n he kinda looks for love in the wrong places and is constantly jumpin from relo to relo ( even jumpin 2 the next relo before the prev relo is over i.e. Cheating )

regardless my man Hates drama so by the end of his final yr he jets tf off to france for a gap yr!! the impt part comes when he's staying in this soho part of france n there's this rly small rly underrated family owned cafe near his accom called angelique!! it was named after the owner's daughter n has a rly homey vibe n is beloved by the locals, v warm and friendly and welcoming w dim yellow lights and irregular flower pots and stuff on the menu that genuinely looks like it's baked by ur mom and hanbin alm feels... at home here? it's the most at home he's felt and he frequented this cafe A Lot during his stay in france!!

when he finally makes it back to sk he finds that he rly misses the place so he asks for some money frm his parents to open up a cafe in gangnam that's Just like it so that he can have his own little angelique where he lives!! the Problem is that he never bothered to ask for their rights or anyth ( tho im p sure legally he doesn't need to since they haven't bought any rights for it in sk so he hasn't committed any crime ) but yea he literally ripped off the style n colour palette n menu items,, think red bull origin story

anw the cafe clearly speaks to a lot of ppl bc it became so super popular so his parents being rly nice 2 him kinda "'""invests"" in his cafe to make it a chain1! n within 4y he opens up a bunch of diff angeliques all over seoul and even has the latest branch in busan!!

personality-wise i would say he is genuinely a rich kid down to the core...... n by sayin this i mean he has their honestly blissful ignorance like imagine j being like oh wow i love this cafe let me open a cafe Exactly like it right down my st like no askin them for permission no nth no unds of flopping or bankruptcy to j act on a whim this is some peak rich kid bs

B I O G R A P H I C A L I N F O R M A T I O N Deckard Molton has always been intrigued by aspects of the medical field. Ever since he was a kid, blood and gore never bothered him much. He was always interested in everything from minor scrapes and bruises to when the neighbor's daughter fell from her broom and broke her leg. He once came across a kitten that had had its leg torn off by a wolf, and it was his first real test at putting his medical instincts into practice. Miraculously, Dec was able to stop the bleeding and help put the kitten on the mend. Turkey lived with the Molton family for the next fifteen years.

Deckard is one of four children and is the second oldest after his brother and before his three sisters: Nathan, Ginger, Candace, and Jolie. After receiving his acceptance letter, Dec was placed into Gryffindor House. While Dec is fairly intelligent, his confidence and blatant attitude made him a definite choice for the house. While he was looking into pursuing medicine as a career (with much encouragement from his family, who was rather overwhelmed by his eagerness at times), he was fascinated by the magical aspect that could be added to it as well. His professors made sure that he was ready by showing him the most gory of images imaginable, and Dec was easily able to look past it all and determine a course of action. Naturally, with much practice and plenty of exams, Dec went on to work his way up to becoming one of the healers at St. Mungo's after graduating from Hogwarts. His current floor is the first with his main practice being with those patients admitted with severe creature-induced injuries.

In his free time (especially when he's not on call), Dec enjoys spending time with his young nieces and nephew. Their favorite pastimes together is baking, wrestling, and falling asleep on the couch.

The past couple weeks have been pretty intense, emotionally. Good, bad, weird, all three, but intense all ‘round.

The Monday before last, E. shared a post of J.L.’s on Facebook & I had to go thru the thing I’ve gone thru so many times already: Do I tell her he abused me & risk her disbelief & the loss of our friendship? Or do I say nothing & just feel super super gross forever & probably lose the friendship anyway because I’ll feel too uncomfortable hanging out with her while knowing she’s friendly with him? I decided to tell her, and ultimately she responded the way I’d hoped she would, but I was up half the night feeling nauseous & panicky. This is like the fourth or fifth time I’ve had to go through this re: J.L. Which, I guess, is not shocking; he’s a well-known guy in the Milwaukee DIY/arts scene. So yeah, not shocking, but it still sucks that I have to keep going thru this.

In the wee hours of that Monday night/Tuesday morning, just before I finally fell asleep, was the blood moon/eclipse. & when I woke a few hours later I was bleeding. That day was the midterm elections & I wanted to make a joke about I’ve got your red wave right here or something. Speaking of—boy, am I glad that the promised red wave did not happen.

That day, and for a few days after, I went thru a bout of mania the likes of which I haven’t seen in a while. There’s still a part of me that wants to fall back into the old self-destructive tendencies. Y’know, they get manic & wanna get stupid drunk about it, or fuck a stranger about it, & they get a little ornery that they can’t. But it is fortunate that, these days, I can sometimes harness my manic energy in more positive ways. I used this bout to get a bunch of housecleaning done, & work on my novella, & then... I was listening to Endless Possibility, the tribute to Jack Terricloth, & there were all these clips of him talking, & in one of them he said: It’s hard to live in the past, it’s hard to live in the future—we live absolutely in the moment. Now is the only time. Do not ever wait. The only answer is yes. & hearing that spurred me into beginning to put the finishing touches on the revised & updated edition of What We Talk About When We Talk About Punk.

Saturday the 12th we celebrated D.’s 11th birthday. His actual birthday was the 13th, but we decided to celebrate with my parents that night, at my mom’s studio, so we could watch the holiday parade. My mom saw my new haircut for the first time. She’d seen me a couple times already since I cut it, but I’d hidden it with a scarf or hat because I knew she’d make a comment & I wasn’t ready to deal with that yet. Sure enough, when she saw it, she visibly winced, then said: “Oh, Jess, really? I keep thinking you’ll grow out of doing that kind of thing.” My response was: “I keep thinking you’ll get used to me doing this kind of thing.” Then she said: “I mean, it’s your hair, you can do whatever you want, but you look so pretty with normal hair.” I just shrugged, cuz we’ve had this ‘discussion’ (& other, similar ones) approximately 5000 times in the past 28 years & she doesn’t get that I’m not trying to be pretty. I mean, yes, I like to feel pretty sometimes, but a. I certainly don’t want to be pretty in a conventional way, and b. overall, I am not going for pretty. I’m going for jolie-laide. I don’t want to be merely pretty, I want to be hot & a little intimidating.

I don’t know. She & I have been having some problems lately, in general, & they’re all the same troublesome dynamic we’ve always had. I love her but sometimes her comments & passive-aggressiveness just exhaust me.

The next day, between cooking, reading, & playing with the kiddos, I had several moments of professional jealousy/envy. I got really down about the trajectory of my career vs. other people’s careers & felt too sad about it to work on my novella that day (though I did work on a prose poem about why I wasn’t working on my novella).

But, the very next evening, I attended Library of America’s (virtual) lecture & Q&A with Todd Tietchen & Jean-Christophe Cloutier, the editor & translator, respectively, of LOA’s book The Unknown Kerouac. It helped me get past feeling sorry for myself. For many reasons, not the least of which was their mention of Jack writing: I hope it’s true that a man can die, and not only live in others, but give them life. Which in turn made me think of Sarah Manguso’s essay about the true purpose of being a serious writer: If people read your work and, as a result, choose life, then you are doing your job. It made my envy of others’ successes seem petty, made me remember— My purpose is not to receive accolades, my purpose is to write & to get my work out there so that the people who need it can find it, & it can give them life.

So, after the Q&A ended, I got back to work on my memory project. (Kerouac considered his entire oeuvre a memory project, a la Proust, & I see myself/my work in that same lineage.)

Thursday, I went to the Racine Art Museum with my mom. We did that last year near her birthday, too, and it was so nice that it has become our new tradition. I always love going to RAM; I feel so blessed that we have such a great art museum in this mid-sized midwest town. The new exhibits that have been added since I went there back in August are phenomenal. & the zodiac-themed virtual community art show my piece is part of? They had an iPad mounted on the wall, scrolling thru all the pieces in the show, & it was really fucking cool to see mine there. I know it was only on a small screen, but still. To see my art in a real fucking art museum? Kinda mind-blowing.

In other news:

Some of my nearest & dearest have been going thru some health scares. (Thankfully, I now know for sure that one of them was just that—a scare.) Little C. has been relentlessly moody, & I guess I’ve been pretty moody, too. I’ve been horny a lot & also sad a lot.

I’ve got a new crush. I know nothing can, or will, ever come of it, but I don’t mind so much. Crush energy, much like mania, is something I’ve learned to harness in more positive ways, most of the time. I don’t need to pursue my crush, I don’t need to pine, I can make them my muse & channel the energy into writing & art. & I’ve been deep in nostalgia—what else is new—longing for a hundred thousand people, places, moments from my past. Currently, I’m missing the winter I worked in a flower shop in Chicago, & the winter I ice skated once a week in downtown Milwaukee. But, at least nostalgia is another energy I can channel into art. My whole life is a memory project.

I don't know how to explain to people that chemistry between two actors is subjective.

Even when you and many people you know--including professional critics--feel that two particular actors have zero chemistry, the director, the casting director and the producer(s) might have felt otherwise.

Or maybe they did have chemistry--a relationship that you and critics would agree involves chemistry--during the script reading/screen testing phase, but then something went really wrong during filming (e.g., a fight between the actors), and they lost it.

Do sometimes directors see that person A and person B have no chemistry and hire/cast them anyway? Yes, because the two actors' names may be tied to the financing of the film/series. Big names bring more fans after all. Money makes the world go round.

But, my point is, that even with films that are documents of the two actors' real life courtship (e.g., Ingrid Bergman and Gregory Peck in Hitchcock's "Spellbound," Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in "To Have and Have Not," Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy in "Woman of the Year," Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith") and thus ooze chemistry, there are still fans and critics that think otherwise.

Sometimes the studios and directors learn that two actors had chemistry--aka clicked well with the audience--after the release of a series/film. An example? Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire in "Flying Down to Rio." The fans responded better to the two supporting actors (Astaire and Rogers) that had very little screen time together than to the actual stars of the film (Dolores del Rio and Gene Raymond). After that response, Hollywood studios proceeded to cast them together in nine more films. Fun fact: Astaire and Rogers briefly dated before their film careers, but it seems like their fans responded better to their chemistry than the actors themselves.

P.S. When I'm talking about chemistry here, I'm not only referring to erotic/sexual combustibility. Any duo or group of actors need to have chemistry in order to hold the audience's attention.

Numerology - Discover Your Purpose

Numerology has been used for thousands of years to determine specific things about an individual. The Pythagoras were the first to discover that numbers have a vibration to them, and each number has a specific vibrational field around them. They believed that we create our life by giving our parents our name that we want to be born with and specific date of birth that we choose to come forth in. So they have discovered meanings of the numbers and their influence on our lives. Numerology is also to believed to be used by our spirit guides to help us along in life by pointing out specific number patterns to us while we go through our daily lives. Remember Mathematics has been considered the Universal language for some time now. That can't just be a coincidence.

Furthermore, according to Underwood Dudley, author of "Numerology: Or What Pythagoras Wrought", the Pythagoreans became interested in number mysticism after discovering a particularly fascinating fact about numbers. If you add up a series of odd numbers beginning with the number one, the result is always a square number.

Discoveries like this led the Pythagoreans to the conclusion that "all is number." According to one interpretation, this means that people can measure everything in the world and describe it in terms of numbers and proportions. This is a reasonable idea, and it has had a big influence on science and mathematics. But according to another interpretation, "all is number" means that everything in the world is made of numbers and can be reduced to a numerical value.

Along with describing numbers in terms of math and geometry, the Pythagoreans also described them in terms of non-numerical traits. These traits had more to do with intuition and mysticism than science or mathematics. For example, odd numbers were masculine, and even numbers were feminine. The number one was creative, since the addition of multiple ones can create any other number. Two represented duality and was female, while three was male. As the sum of two and three, five represented marriage, and since it fell exactly in the middle of the numbers one through nine, it also represented justice.

Ten was a sacred number, largely because it is the sum of the first four digits. The holiness of the number 10 led to a list of 10 fundamental opposites:

Limited and unlimited

Odd and even

One and many

Right and left

Masculine and feminine

Rest and motion

Straight and crooked

Light and darkness

Good and evil

Systems also designate numbers with repeating digits as master numbers, which include all the attributes of two other numbers:

11: 1 and 2

22: 2 and 4

33: 3 and 6

44: 4 and 8

Numerology has been used to tell the future, guide human behavior, predict the outcome of relationships and otherwise divine the unknowable by figuring out a person's numbers. For example, if the number 5 has a particular vibration, a person whose number is 5 has the same vibration. That person can choose what to eat, where to go and how to live based on which choices have a vibration that is compatible with 5.

Numerologists will interpret the results and the meanings of each number to make recommendations or theorize about a person's future. Recommendations often include:

you’d have to be living under a rock to not know jeremy and elizabeth marie oliver . think brad pitt and angelina jolie , will smith and jada pinkett , or whatever other celebrity IT couple you fancy . jeremy is notoriously known for his acting career that took off in the late 80′s . around the same time , elizabeth marie’s acting / modeling career was taking off across the pond . the iconic duo met through work and quickly fell in love . after their over the top wedding ceremonies ( yes plural . they got married once in jeremy’s hometown in new jersey and then again in elizabeth marie’s hometown in england ). shortly after their holy matrimony , they produced three healthy babies : mason , samuel , and cassandra . there were a few years in between the kiddos , but they were all raised in a tight knit family outside of the limelight in asbury park , new jersey . their parents decided to take a break from working in order to raise their kids . i wish i could say that gave the oliver trio a normal childhood . but it’s kind of hard to go to public school and not draw attention to yourself when your parents are household names . it was hard for cassandra to understand that her parents were super famous and for some reason that meant something to people . if you asked her , there was no reason to get all starstruck over her parents . they were just people after all .

so i guess you could say she had a normal childhood . at least , as normal as one could have with their name and photos constantly plastered all over tabloids . cassandra grew up in a happy and loving environment , which is nice . and with her dad working part time as a professor at his alma mater , juilliard , she and her family bounced back and forth between their coastal home in new jersey and their urban townhouse in new york . and she throughly enjoyed experiencing the best of both worlds . both places felt like home to her and she and her brothers made the best memories together . see , her brothers were her best friends growing up . mason and samuel were five (5) and three (3) years older than her , respectively , and she followed them around everywhere they went . the two boys let her reluctantly at first when mom and dad forced them to but over time it became enjoyable to have her be just another member of their friend group . cassandra was well liked and throughly protected by her brothers and their friends . they shielded her away from all things dangerous : from substances to rude people . this led to a pretty sheltered upbringing . she lived in this little bubble where things were all good all the time .

as she got older , she had to learn to fend for herself a bit more . no longer was she under the watchful gaze of her brothers , for they had rushed into graduating high school early so that they could pursue their own acting careers-- following in line with their infamous parents . having the oliver last name gave them an advantage in the film industry and they ran with that opportunity . meanwhile , cassandra stayed back and took her time . acting was always something she was interested in . there’s no way she could be a member of her household and not dabble in the art at least a little bit . but it wasn’t a top priority to her for a long time . she didn’t want to rely on her family name to get her somewhere in the industry . if she was going to do it , she wanted to do it right . she wanted to earn her place just like anybody else . and if it worked out for her then great ! and if it didn’t , well she prepared a back-up plan . she elected to go to NYU for business instead of studying acting or just bypassing college all together . she figured if all else failed , then she’d start her own company and branch out of the creative arts .

and she took her college career very seriously . she’s studious and hard-working , genuinely enjoying learning new things and having a ‘ normal college experience ’. even though people still look at her funny or talk about her behind her back once they figure out why she looks so gosh darn familiar , she’s come to find that college students are much more chill than the kids that used to bombard her with questions about her famous family on the play ground . most days , cassandra gets by feeling like a completely normal girl . no fame or fortune , just a regular schemgular student trying to get by . and she’d probably gotten away with just melting into the background and never breaking out into the limelight if it wasn’t for one little netflix project she agreed on .

it was just supposed to be another passion project . cassandra had done a few small roles in indie movies at that point . just enough to dip her toes into the movie making world but not enough to drag her away from getting a higher education . but when a script for a new netflix original series was slid in her direction by a family friend turned agent-- well , she just couldn’t put it down ! she loved everything about the show and knew she just had to be a part of it . so she gave up one summer of her life to film OUTER BANKS , not at all thinking that it would blow up the way it did a year later when it premiered . and now news is breaking out that the youngest oliver is finally stepping out into the acting scene , which is warranting a lot of media attention towards her . honestly , she feels pretty good about the project itself . she’s very proud of the show and is incredibly grateful that it’s doing as well as it is . but when it comes to all the notoriety she’s getting because of it , well ... she’s still adjusting to being famous in her own right and not just secondhand through her family . she’s a little overwhelmed . she’s a big girl now that has to navigate through this next chapter of her life without anybody holding her hand or shielding her from the highs and lows of being known . whether or not she thrives in the limelight or crumbles under the pressure is to be determined .

If you are still taking prompts - Beca's family is poor after father left and mama Mitchell stayed with Beca and her siblings, she is going to some fancy school bc of scholarship, she is trying to help her mother out and collect money for some school trip by playing on the guitar in the park aaaand this is where her future lover(s?) from class finds her (you can choose the ship) (sorry this is so long)

This is completely unedited and I decided to make this a multichapter fic. So this is a very introductory chapter and i’ll come back and edit it soon. It might be a tiny bit different than the prompt but I’m hoping to do something along these lines. I haven’t decided between mitchsen or triple treble yet.

Music had an amazing way of fixing everything for Beca Mitchell. Well maybe not everything. She wasn’t naïve. But it at least it helped her pretend.

And she needed that sometimes—a lot of times if the callouses on her fingers were anything to go by. Plucking at the steel strings of her father’s old Stella guitar made all her worries melt away, and she could feel her voice speaking through the gentle thrum of the strings. It wouldn’t make her dad come back. It wouldn’t get her mother a better job or pay for her sister’s medication, but it was her release, and her world didn’t feel quite so dark with the weight of her guitar in her hands.

She never expected her playing to lead to anything else. Sure, she would stop off at Central Park every couple of days and play for whatever coins people would toss her way, but she never expected to be recruited, especially not by the recruiters from Park Edge Preparatory for the Fine Arts.

Park Edge was one of the largest magnet schools in the city. They had thousands of applicants every year and if you weren’t a part of their program by the time you were eleven, there was almost no way to get into the school which meant it mostly accepted of trust fund babies from the Upper East Side—definitely never a poor kid from the Bronx.

She had been playing near the 81st street station next to the Museum of Natural History on a Saturday afternoon in June when she was approached by very stern, blonde woman in a navy-blue pants suit. She was tall. At least a full foot taller than fifteen-year-old Beca who had already reached her peak height of 5’2. Beca had thought she was about to get cursed out by the woman when she first approached. She was all angles—strong, bony nose, a mouth set in a grim line that didn’t look like it even knew how to smile, and cheek bones that would have given Angelina Jolie a run for her money. The woman didn’t say anything at first, just whipped a card out of her jacket and pushed it into Beca’s face. Beca had been forced to take a step back from the proximity, but the woman didn’t back down until Beca’s small hand shakily gripped the card and took it.

It read Angela Parry, Recruitment Office, Park Edge Preparatory for the Fine Arts, and a few phone numbers listed at the bottom. Angela nodded and stretched her hand out which Beca took after a moment.

“Angela Parry,” she said with a strong Brooklyn accent and continued to introduce herself before asking Beca’s name.

“Um, Beca Mitchell,” she replied. Shifting her weight slightly and tugging her guitar strap around to hang the instrument from her back.

“You have a voice, Mitchell,” she said bluntly. Beca furrowed her eyebrows. “And your guitar playing is decent too, do you have any other talents?”

“Well, I play flute, kind of, and piano. And I write?” Beca responded. Angela only nodded. This woman was intense. Her compliments didn’t really sound like compliments. It sounded more like she was giving Beca permission to exist because she didn’t completely suck.

“How are your grades?”

“Mostly B’s, a few A’s,” Beca replied quickly. The woman’s eyes were piercing as she thought for a second.

After a succinct nod, she continued, “Have a parent send me a copy of your transcripts and we’ll discuss setting you up at Park Edge.”

Beca was wide-eyed as Angela shook Beca’s hand once again and walked off, the clack of her heels causing Beca to blink after her. It took a moment to realize what had just happened before she tossed her guitar in its case and sprinted after the woman. She finally caught up to her about half a block later, and grabbed her arm. The daggers she received from the woman were enough to make her drop the Angela’s arm like it had burned her, but then Angela raised an eyebrow at her.

“Wh-what are you talking about?” Beca asked. She didn’t dare to hope that she understood the woman, but she needed to hear it herself.

“I want you at Park Edge,” Angela said as if it explained away every question Beca could have.

“But I can’t afford that school,” Beca responded. “And that’s like an hour on the train.”

“We’ll give you a scholarship,” she said as if it was the most obvious solution in the world.

“You can just do that?” Beca asked.

“Of course not,” Angela said. “You’ll have to audition and prove you can handle the schoolwork, but as long as you can prove not to be a drain on the school, I don’t foresee any problems.”

“That’s it?” Beca asked suddenly feeling dumbfounded. Her arms hung limply at her side, guitar case thumping against her thigh.

“That’s it.” Angela said, then pivoted and walked away. Beca almost chased after her again. No way was it that simple right? Who just recruits random teenagers off the streets, gives them multi-thousand-dollar scholarships, and all they need is a transcript?

Beca was right. It didn’t turn out to actually be that simple. There were a lot of logistics to figure out. Most importantly, school wasn’t in session at the moment meaning there was no administration available to approve a scholarship for Beca, nor was there anyone to witness an audition to make sure she’d be accepted in the first place.

After Beca had told her mother about the strange conversation with Angela Parry, her mother had spent almost three hours on the phone with the woman going over details. It was a private school and had plenty of money so there really wasn’t anything to worry about financially as long as Beca could nail the audition. Her mother spent the entire phone call getting reassurances about money and then figuring out what exactly Beca needed to do for the audition and what was expected of her should she be accepted to the school.

It took three weeks before an audition could even be booked because the principal of the school was required to be present for all upperclassmen auditions. Beca prepared herself the best she could. She wasn’t classically trained as a musician, and all the arts programs at her school had been cut so she didn’t exactly have a teacher, but she did her best to pull together an audition. They were intense. They wanted scales, two contrasting solo pieces no longer than a minute and a half each, sight singing and playing, and specific vocal and instrumental etudes. Apparently, all music majors were required to have vocal and instrumental talent. The vocal aspect was a non-issue, but Beca didn’t feel completely competent on any instrument. She eventually decided on use piano for her audition. It didn’t feel quite so personal, and she wouldn’t be judged on the condition of her guitar.

But despite Beca’s pantsuit angel making her dreams come true, Beca still wasn’t convinced she even wanted to go to this new school. She would be going into her sophomore year of high school without anyone, everyone would have already found their groups, and most of these kids would have known each other since pre-school. Not only that but Beca hated rich kids. They were always spoiled and arrogant like the world owed them for existing. Beca had no time for those kinds of people. All she wanted to do was be at home to take care of her little sister, Triss. She was eleven-years-old. She didn’t exactly need a babysitter anymore, but Beca’s mom worked late so they didn’t see her as often as they’d like.

It took a lot of convincing. Triss called her an idiot no less than fifteen times for not being excited about the audition.

“Why am I the idiot Triss?” Beca asked, looking to her mini doppelganger. Triss was reading on the couch, feet tucked up underneath her, and glasses perched near the end of her nose. Beca smiled a little as she watched Triss’s eyes scan a few lines of her book before she spoke.

“Because.” Triss didn’t even look up.

“That’s not an answer,” Beca chided. She plopped down next to the girl, and pulled the book from her hands despite an indignant “hey!” “Why am I an idiot?”

“You think those scholarships just get handed out?” Triss asked. “You’re going to get to go to one of those cool music schools like you see on tv and you don’t wanna go? Why? Cause I need a baby sitter after school. That’s dumb Beca.”

“Well someone has to keep you out of trouble,” Beca laughed and ruffled Triss’s hair.

“And someone has to keep you from being dumb,” Triss said. She climbed over Beca to grab at her book but Beca held it just inches out of reach. Triss’s light blue eyes narrowed and Beca let out an embarrassing squeak as Triss started to poke at Beca’s side. They wrestled on the couch for several minutes before Beca felt too winded to fight off her sister’s onslaught of tickles and she wheezed a breathy “uncle” before handing the book over to Triss.

“Don’t look too smug,” Beca said, emphasizing her words with a poke to the ribs. “I know where you sleep dweeb.”

“Yeah, six feet away from you. You’d be, like, the first person they arrested if I went missing,” Triss responded flipping her book back open, settling against the arm of the couch and flinging her legs over Beca’s lap.

She still wasn’t convinced, but she went to the audition anyway. She was nervous as hell—never being one for the center of attention, but she nailed the audition and they offered her the spot and scholarship later that night. She took a few days to answer them, but eventually came to realize, she was never going to get an opportunity like this again. She wanted out of the Bronx. She wanted more out of life than a crappy food service job, because there was no way she could afford college.

School at Park Edge was going to be intense. Two days after she accepted the scholarship, a student handbook and a box of uniforms came in the mail. Beca thought the uniform looked ridiculous, but at least it included pants so she wasn’t forced to wear the plaid, pleated skirt. The handbook was two inches thick though. It included everything from grading to attendance to dress code to extracurriculars. Apparently, on top of a mandatory 3.0 GPA, all students were required to take part in at least one after school activity, of which, they had seventy-six; sports, debate, musical groups, theatre, writing clubs, science clubs, math teams, Beca was a little dizzy from the prospects. They even had a gaming club.

Despite the school having “fine arts” in the title. It turned out to be dedicated to the entire class of subjects. They could declare a major and take specific classes pertaining to that major. Each major fell under one of four broad subjects: math, science, humanities, or fine arts.

For Beca, it was a no brainer that her major would be in fine arts, but she couldn’t decide between performance or, the increasingly intriguing, composition. She had never written her own music before, but she would have been lying if she said it wasn’t something she thought about—a lot.

Both programs were very similar. They would have to take generals in math, science, language, and history, but then they would get to choose electives that pertained more toward their major as well as take lessons from a private instructor in either vocal or instrumental music. The composition majors would get additional lessons in composition.

The longer Beca looked at the classes list, the more overwhelmed she became. She began to wonder how many students actually went to this school if they could offer nearly as many classes as a small college. Then she took a look at the campus map and realize she wasn’t actually that far off. The school was set up exactly like a college.

The closer the first day of school got, the more nervous Beca felt. She really didn’t know what to expect. She was used to a school with cheap linoleum and metal detectors, torn and worn textbooks, and lunches that were barely edible. If the amount of her scholarship was any indication, the lunches at Park Edge were probably five courses, and that was intimidating as hell. Her mom was convinced that a new school meant all new shoes and a new backpack. Things Beca knew they couldn’t actually afford, but her mother couldn’t be convinced otherwise.

A week later as she stood in front of a giant stone, gargoyled building, Beca was thankful her mother had insisted. Students walked around her as she stared up at intimidating figure it posed ahead of her. She felt her heart rate accelerating as she realized what exactly she got herself into. Beca shut her eyes for several moments and took a deep breath before her characteristic, apathetic smirk slid into place, and she walked into the office.

Carol, first off let me apologize for assuming things and not hearing both sides of the story before I spoke or wrote. I have nothing, but the best of wishes for you and Sharon Brown and you know I'm talking about the People's Court dramarama girl.

That's ok baby, I'm not worrying about that. I know what really happened and I'm going to tell you right now!

Oh where are my nerve pills when I need them. I think I'm as Janice McClain would say, "Smack Dab In The Middle."

L.O.L., ok Darlin' here is the real story, First of all Sharon Brown has issues: in 2003 I was getting ready for the Disco Ball at the Taj Mahal (Atlantic City, NJ) and decided I didn't want to stay with Sharon anymore.

I had only stayed there for about six days anyway, so she was obviously bitter about that situation.

When I went to pick up my belongings she said that it wasn't the right time and gave me some excuse so I never did get them from her. When I went to stay with her the phone was even cut off. I moved in with Sharon in the first place because I was recording in the Bronx and it was so much closer for me, I am not ashamed to say I am a New York City girl.

She even threw away a picture of my mother that you get from the funeral with the bible verses on it. I don't think she knew that she threw it away, but if she would have given it to me when I went to get it that time she wouldn't have misplaced it and threw it away. It was something that was irreplaceable to me.

Here's a quote and PLEASE do quote me on this, If I didn't have another picture of my mother and if I wasn't the lady of class that I am I would have given her a Bed-Stuy A*S Whoopin! That's a Brooklyn term.

We were going to blend our talent together and try and get something good going because the same person that discovered me discovered Sharon Brown, It was Eddie O'Loughlin. And I was not homeless, I was staying with my hair stylist I had lived at my previous residence for 26 years.

OK I'm going to move us in another direction. Although you have just as much right to say your piece as did Miss Brown.

Carol, what song would you say best represents you as an artist?

I would say "Midnight Love Affair" because it's elegant and sexy, yet very classy.

Yes, that's a lovely song and my favorite of yours second only to "I Fell In Love For The First Time Today". That I personally feel was under rated. You can hear it playing softly in the background right now.

Out of the producers you have worked with which one was your favorite?

Eddie O'Loughlin of course, John Fitch and Rueben Cross. John and Rueben did Shame for Evelyn "Champagne" King as well.

As much as I love your songs and all the ladies I have interviewed so far "Shame" is my all time favorite Disco song. I can't lie about it. Which artists are your favorites to work with?

Oh I would say I loved working with Sylvester, Grace Jones, Keith Harrell, France Joli, Taana Gardner, Carol Williams and so many that I can't name them all but those are my favorites.

It seems like most people loved working with Sylvester, I bet he was a scream to work with and so talented. You were nominated for a Grammy for your album Burnin that's a lovely honor because many disco acts were overlooked at award shows except say someone like Donna Summer.

Yes, I feel very blessed about that I'm proud of that achievement. Why did you fire your first agent Jay Ellis?

At that time Jay was also managing Gloria and he was pushing her to do shows and he made us like a package deal "If you take Carol you have to take Gloria too" and I didn't care for that so I hired Norby Walters. I know you were a child star, who are some of the celebrities you worked with?

Oh my I worked with Cicely Tyson, James Earl Jones, Glen Thurman, Gregory Hines and quite a few more.

I LOVE Cicely Tyson she is a fabulous actress and a classy lady.

Where was your favorite place to perform?

Well Studio 54 of course, The Red Parrot, Bonds International... Actually I really love entertaining anywhere, it's a passion. Let me tell you this story. I love stories. hehe. I'm all ears.

One night Gloria Gaynor and I were both going to perform at 54 and when we came out of our dressing rooms we had the same outfit on, we looked at each other like oh no you don't. But I was going on first so I looked at Gloria as I walked on stage and said I guess you will have to change. We did a television show in Paris one time and she had to know what I was wearing as not to make the same mistake as at Studio 54.

I 'm not going near that one, lol. Didn't you and Gloria get along with one another?

She doesn't even speak to me. She has parties at her mansion and doesn't invite me. I can't wait to go on Oprah and call it out. I will also call things out when I write my book.

Don't be shamed to call it out baby! Everyone else has tell-all books, give us some real juicy stuff, Miss Carol. Can you tell us the title of the book?

Mother Always Knew (The story of the first lady of Disco). I can't wait to read it as I'm sure the rest of your many fans feel the same way.

I know there has always been a dispute over the first lady of Disco as to whether it's you or Gloria Gaynor, because you ladies started around the same time. Although I think Doctors Orders was the first mega disco hit from the two of you. And both of you ladies are so very talented. Do you think that might have something to do with the static between the two of you?

I have no animosity towards Gloria Gaynor but I suppose that might be the reason she doesn't speak to me. Okay, let's talk about people you love in the business, who would you say are your best friends in the industry?

Taana Gardner and Carol Williams.

What are you cooking up as far as music goes?

I am remaking Doctor Orders as an R&B song, and a song called It's Only In My Heart and I will be performing with the Ink Spots and Full Force and a new artist called Boogs.

D23 Dissect: Kit Harrington Is Black Knight - Get Over It!

Due to the unexpected and frankly unwarranted barrage of controversy that the reveal of Kit Harington portraying Black Knight in the upcoming 2020 Eternals movie is getting, I thought it necessary to bring an unbiased opinion to the conversation.

By unbiased I mean acknowledging and not insulting Kit Harington fans who have strong opinions on who he should be playing in the MCU, but still respecting the character he is portraying and what it could mean for Harington in the MCU.

Background:

Firstly, I have to say with every comment I read and every negative reaction I see to this casting announcement, I feel very sad for Kit Harington and the original creators of the Black Knight character.

Because Black Knight is more of a mantle than a superhero there are many different versions of the character, much like a lot of superheroes, the version Harington has been cast as is Dane Whitman, who is an American scientist of British descent who is the third character to don the mantle of Black Knight.

As with the second incarnation of the character Nathan Garrett, Whitman is a descendant of the original Black Knight Sir Percy, but also the nephew of Garrett who donned the mantle and became a supervillain.

After inheriting the Ebony Blade, he became the Black Knight and has since been a long-standing member of the Avengers as well as the Defenders, Heroes for Hire, Ultraforce and Masters of Evil among others.

Unfounded Hate:

Alright so yes Black Knight is not that well known of a character, Dane Whitman has never had an official appearance outside of the comics and because of that, yes I can understand why fans of Kit Harington are disgruntled about the fact that he has seemingly been saddled with such a random role.

However, let’s face it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is founded on virtually unknown Marvel characters. The Avengers were B and C-list heroes prior to their introduction into the MCU and this is because all of the A-List Marvel characters were owned by other studios.

Kevin Feige is praised as the Messiah of Marvel but in reality it is more like Midas because even the most unknown of characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy can become fan-favourites when given the Feige treatment.

The best and most well-known characters prior to their appearance in the MCu were Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Spider-Man, the twins were compromised going in due to a deal with Fox about not mentioning any Mutant-related affiliations and Spider-Man is no longer part of the MCU due to a breakdown in Feige’s deal with Sony.

Yet rather than the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man prior to Holland’s appearance as the character being the favourites of today’s superhero fandom, instead we have fans in love with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Ant-Man and Black Panther.

So it stands to reason that, if Black Knight turns out to be a strong enough character, that his commercial viability will grow just as most Marvel superheroes have in the last eleven years.

Kit Harington:

Now as for the casting of Kit Harington itself, I have mixed feelings about it. Not only do I feel that Eternals is a rather crowded movie as it is, but also Black Knight has never had any real affiliations with the Eternals...in fact he is most prominently a supporting character of Captain Britain aka Brian Braddocks who is the twin brother of the Mutant Psylocke and was very obscurely teased in Avengers: Endgame.

So maybe Captain Britain would have been the better role for the British actor? At least he has already been teased and would be a more fan-favourite choice I feel.

But moving away from which role would suit Harington better, we have to consider that a role this obscure is maybe actually justified considering that his most prominent movie role to date is 2014′s Pompeii, because of course, Harington is quintessentially associated with Game of Thrones and his role as Jon Snow.

Also, it seems that any role outside of Game of Thrones has not been well received by critics or fans as the television series Gunpowder was an absolute flop.

I am personally quite happy that Kit Harington is in a role where he hopefully won’t outshine his former GOT co-star Richard Madden who is seemingly in the leading role of Ikaris, because Madden does not have the same fame recognition as Harington.

Simply put, actors like Kit Harington, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams are prominently and forever known as their characters from Game of Thrones, but actors who did not survive the entire run like Richard Madden had the chance to break free from being type cast and fortunately that is what he has done.

With roles in the live-action Cinderella as Prince Kit (ironic), the BBC series Bodyguard and most recently starring alongside Taron Egerton and Jaime Bell in Rocketman are all not only Madden’s way of keeping the money rolling in but also building up his portfolio in versatile roles.

However, I still remember him as a child actor 20 years ago in the CBBC series Barmy Aunt Boomerang, this guy has been working for 20 years and I feel he needs his time in the spotlight because even though he was a main character in Game of Thrones his biggest moment was unfortunately the Red Wedding and he was constantly overshadowed by Kit Harington’s Jon Snow.

Overview:

Alright so to sum up, yes for fans of Kit Harington who aren’t comic-book fans it may be a kicker for them to know he is going to portray a character not many people know. However, considering where Harington is in his career, a small role in an ensemble superhero movie may be the best he is expected to get.

Do I feel he could have been in a better role? Yes, but I am not going to cry about it and instead just appreciate the fact that he is in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Also, I have to say, with all the attention and hate that this announcement has received, it has taken away from the rest of the news surrounding the Eternals movie during the D23 Expo panel.

Not only did we have reveals of how these actors will look in their costumes, but also the announcement that Gemma Chan is also a new addition to the movie...the big news there being she isn’t reprising her role as Minn-Erva from Captain Marvel but instead portraying Sersi who many fans originally believed Angelina Jolie was signing up to portray before she became Thena who is the cousin of Thanos.

On a side note, as a Brit myself I have to say, I love the fact that the MCU has such a strong representation not only of British talent but also transforming TV actors into movie level stars. Not only with Karen Gillan as Nebula but now Gemma Chan, Richard Madden and Kit Harington. It does actually fill me with some patriotic pride and nothing really does that for me.

As I said before, the MCU was built on the foundation of either B/C-List heroes taking centre stage or the inclusion of big names in smaller roles to make the smaller roles big. So rather than hating on the fact that Kit Harington isn’t at the centre of the action this time around, enjoy and endorse his appearance in the upcoming movie so that he possibly has a more prominent role in the future of the MCU.
