Been feeling the 'Jaskier upset with Geralt' angst train lately if this prompt interests you
Tumblr media
I read the word 'angst' and instantly went on board- honestly Jaskier deserves to be angry with Geralt. What always makes me go *chef's kiss* in those scenarios is that Jaskier is upset, but he doesn't want Geralt to be hurt! He always looks out for him 🥺🥺 I made Jaskier and angry-crier, because I haven't tormented my man enough. Also Jaskier being able to actually show how upset he is and Geralts self worth issues of 'distancing himself when he thinks he isn't wanted' FIGHT-

I went to go see a movie a couple days ago at the Alamo Drafthouse in Manhattan and I've been to one of their locations before and enjoyed it, but I ran into something really frustrating at this one.
Sometimes I look at design choices and think, "oh, they really didn't ask any disabled people what they thought about THIS one." Like, for example, I see this photo bandied around a lot like some super creative accessibility integration but any actual disabled person would tell you it's an extreme safety hazard:
Tumblr media
Steep grade, sharp curves, and very little to keep you from rolling down those stairs if you make one false move. Plus, as usual, disabled folks who don't use wheelchairs are being ignored because there are no railings or anything for them to use on the "accessible" path. It's just bad design, as much as able-bodied people go apeshit over it.
Ran into that again at Alamo Drafthouse. It was really, really clear to me that they thought they were doing something innovative with their accessible seats, but all they did was create an accessibility nightmare. There were several problems with their "solution", which I suspect was designed more to maximize profit than anything, but I think a lot of them wouldn't be noticed if you've never like... actually been disabled.
I reserved a companion seat at the theater, like I do every time I go see a movie. For the uninitiated, most modern theaters have an accessible row (usually in the middle of the theater) that is at ground-level. There are large gaps between seats to be used for wheelchairs (either to sit in or to park, if they prefer transferring to softer seats) and then "companion" seats next to those for their loved ones to sit in with them. These companion seats are also often booked by disabled people who need physical chairs to sit in (i.e. are not wheelchair users) but still need to be in an accessible row and/or need space for medical/accessibility devices, service animals, etc.
When I got to the theater, I immediately realized that no one at this chain realized that companion seats are usually used in this way by the disabled community -- because the companion seats were not accessible. I looked at the row (in the back of the theater, sigh) for several minutes in confusion, trying to figure out where the wheelchair seats were. There were no visible gaps and you could only get to the entire row by going down a step.
Then it clicked. Two of the chairs were removable. My guess is that staff would roll the chairs out and a wheelchair could be rolled into the gap that they created -- but to actually get to the front of the seats, you had to go down a step.
So in other words, you are presumably supposed to arrive early if you're a wheelchair user (something not specified on the tickets page) and get someone to remove a chair for you, and the seats surrounding you are not accessible for transfer or for people with other disabilities.
(I guess this is great for the theater, as it allows them to sell those wheelchair seats to able-bodied people if disabled people don't show up... but it kind of feels like actual disabled people are shit out of luck here.)
Now, I had some train trouble so I arrived about five minutes before the trailers started. Totally acceptable for able-bodied people, but I can't help but realize that if I had been using my wheelchair that day instead of just my cane, that wouldn't have been nearly enough time to get the chairs removed before the lights went down. So that's already one extra step for disabled people.
But the companion seat thing feels like an even bigger problem. It's what made it really clear to me that disabled people weren't consulted in the design of this theater because clearly no one ever wondered what someone who is disabled but not a wheelchair user would do in this theater. There were literally no accessible seats for a disabled person who didn't bring their own place to sit.
The best case scenario is... idk, maybe they'd pull the seats out, you sit in one, then they roll them back in? But it just seems like that would have a high potential for injury, especially because the seats fit pretty snugly into the row. And it's really not an intuitive solution; there were no signs explaining how these seats worked or anything, so it'd be hard to even know to ask for that.
And again, none of this was mentioned on the website. I wanted to go to this theater because it was close to where I'd been earlier that day and because I knew it was by an accessible subway station (not... always a given in NYC), plus I do like the vibe at Alamo Drafthouse. I liked the pizza and boozy milkshake I had there. I thought the vampiric preshow, what I saw of it, was fun. But I absolutely would've just gone to an AMC or something if I'd known that they would not have accessible seating.
Being real with you, going to movies is one of my favorite things to do when I'm having a high-symptom day. It's dark, it's cold, I can sit in a comfortable chair for two hours. It's a way to get out of the house and do something fun even if I can't move much. So... I know that one step might not have seemed like much to them, but I was there because I was already in a lot of pain. And that one step hurt like a bitch.
And idk, man, call me fussy but sometimes I just want to have fun without it hurting! Like damn, I needed that booze after going down the stair, then having to go up a stair and falling into my seat.
(And a hearty fuck you to the guy next to me who was like "WHOA, JEEZ" when I toppled into my seat. Like damn, you see a visibly disabled person fall after dealing with stairs that should not have been there and then you get judgy? Shit, dude.)
Anyway... I told an employee about my concerns when I left and he seemed fairly receptive but also at a loss as to how to fix things. I mean, I think putting a warning that the seats aren't actually accessible on the website is a MUST but I agree that I'm not sure how to fix the problem with the way that the theater was physically built. The whole design was flawed, which feels in some ways unforgivable in a movie theater built in... *googles* Jesus Christ, 2021?
2021 and still making functionally inaccessible theaters. What the heck.
So that was frustrating! Also, this part isn't Alamo's fault but the office building the theater was under was also super difficult to get around in if you're disabled. The entrances/exits I could find all had stairs, but one had a largely unmarked hydraulic lift. I've used these before, so I knew how to use it, but I bet a lot of people would be confused as hell. (Especially how to get the door unlocked, lmao.) There were no signs saying where it was or anything, either. I only found it by chance.
THEN, when I was leaving, I found out that the accessible exit had been roped off for... cleaning? Repairs? idk. All I know is that I got off the lift and suddenly realized that I was surrounded by caution tape that had cordoned off the stairs I had just bypassed.
But it was the only accessible exit (that I could find, anyway) and I was essentially trapped, so I had to just like... pull down some of the caution tape and go around it and try to stick it back up as best I could. I hope I didn't ruin whatever they were doing, but I'm not really sure what choice I had.
All in all, just a weird, frustrating, and unnecessarily painful adventure. So if you're disabled uhhh maybe find a different location.

The test
Tumblr media
warnings: teenage pregnancy, emotionaaal, fem!reader
A/N: don’t know where i got the idea of this but i love carl so much i can’t stop writing about him so here you go my fellows carl stans
summary: fem!reader is Glenn and Maggie’s adoptive daughter, you are really late on your periods after starting to get sexually active with your boyfriend, Carl. You get worried so you ask someone you really trust to go to the pharmacy with you, in the need of a test.
english is not my first language, be kind <3
Getting pregnant in an apocalypse was certainly not smart, you all lived in Alexandria for months now, it became home.
You started having doubts when you missed your periods twice in a row, you absolutely needed a pregnancy test.
Carl just lost his eye and got back to sleeping in your shared room, your parents allowing you to share a room since you’ve never been separated since childhood. They warned you about unprotected relationships but a bit too late.
You opened your eyes with one thought, convincing someone to come with you on a run to catch a pregnancy test. You turned your head to see Carl still sleeping.
It suddenly made you feel so bad, seeing him sleeping peacefully after everything that happened lately, you know you’ll have to announce the pregnancy and stress him a lot during months. You’re really scared of his reaction, maybe he won’t love you anymore or some other stupid thoughts.
You’ve seen him with Judith for years now, the thing you’ll never have to be worried about is how he takes care of the child cause he’s been the best big brother to Judith and took care of her like no one ever did. You actually thought often of him as a father when you saw him and his little sister, thinking how wonderful he would be with his own child.
You dressed and left the room, coming down the stairs seeing Rick in the kitchen holding Judith;
“Well, hi (Y/N)” he said surprised to see you awaken so early. “Hi, Rick” you kiss Judith’s forehead before taking a snack on the table, putting on your jacket to leave the Grimes house.
You were extremely anxious, you felt your body reacted weirdly, you kind of already knew you were pregnant you just needed confirmation.
Of course, you were way too young, what if Carl doesn’t want to raise a child? What if the child will hate you for forcing them to live in a messed up world? What if Glenn and Maggie get mad and disappointed in you? What if Rick gets mad and disappointed in you?
All these scenarios kept happening in your head, you were a child having a child, it felt wrong. After all, you had a safe home and a loving family so, nothing to really worry about but still, you were dying overthinking this whole situation.
You get into your parents house, knowing Glenn is always up early. You get in the kitchen seeing him sitting at the table, drinking a coffee as if life was totally normal.
“Hi, dad” you say, making him flinch, not expecting you to be here. “Hey, (Y/N), you scared me, what are you doing here?” he laughed as you got near him to kiss his cheek.
“I really need you to come with me on a run, i don’t feel so good…” You didn’t know who to ask for this, you hesitated a long time, thinking in your bed before going to sleep.
Maybe you could’ve asked Daryl but he had to go outside with Aaron, you didn’t want to tell Abraham or Sasha being scared of them telling your parents or something like that, anyways, you only thought of the most supporting person in your life, Glenn.
“Oh, uhm yes we can go, what do you need?” he questioned, really confused. This was not a (Y/N) way to act, he knows you all too well.
“I’ll explain later, can we go like- now?” he didn’t want to harasse you with questions because he noticed how anxious you were, playing with your ring, hesitating on your words, he didn’t want to scare you.
He nodded and put his drink in the sink before putting on his shoes and opening the door in a painful silence. You were both asking yourselves so many questions. He’s worried about you acting so strange and you’re worried about telling him.
Spencer opens the doors of Alexandria, letting you pass, allowing you to take one of the small cars. You get into the car, still not saying a word.
“So…Do you need something particular?” he said, watching the road, “I don’t really know…I just know we should go to this pharmacy we saw the other day.” you say, trying to act normal as you watch your shoes.
Luckily, the pharmacy wasn’t far away from Alexandria so you didn’t have to beat about the bush longer.
“Here we are” he opened the door, “It’s great because Denise wanted me to take some medicines, i took her list with me.” He said, smiling at you, trying to make you comfortable.
He’s so sweet with you, you see how much he wants to just know what the hell is going on but he just waits.
You smile back at him, entering the drugstore, he goes away to find the 3 things on his list, also taking care of the walker that was inside.
You go on and search for pregnancy tests, you see baby products, diapers, bottles, pacifiers…seeing this gives you immediate pain in the chest, your anxiety rising as you find 3 pregnancy tests, you take one in your hands, trying to decide if you’ll hide it to Glenn or tell him.
“Oh god-” you hear behind you, you flinch, not knowing Glenn was right behind you, shit. You turn to look at him, he tilts his head with a look full of compassion.
As soon as you look at him, you start crying, he steps forward to take you in his arms, he has to process the information really fast to be able to comfort you. He definitely wasn’t expecting that, he probably thought you were still a virgin.
“I’m so sorry, dad” you sob into his chest as he rubs your back, letting out a sigh, “It’s gonna be fine, it’s okay” you made a good decision asking him to come here with you.
You both sat on the window sill, as you wait for the test to tell if you’re pregnant or not, he needs answers now…Meantime you of course did the test.
“Does Carl knows?” he gently asks looking at you as you avoid the eye contact, ashamed of yourself. “No…I don’t know how to tell him, I’m 99% sure that it’s positive.” “We’ll see, don’t worry” he’s himself scared but he believes in you and he knows that no matter what, you’ll be fabulous.
“It’s my fault…I don’t know how i’ll tell everyone now?” you say, “We will take care of this, i promise you, it’s always stressful then when the baby’s there everyone is happy.” he laughs, wimping off your tears.
You turn the test to look at it, without a surprise, it is positive.
You look at it in disbelief, “Hey, (Y/N), does grandpa Glenn fits me?” he says, taking your hand, you turn to look at him, a tear falling from your eye, you let out a laugher, “Yes, be careful you’re gonna grow gray hair.” you laugh as he takes you in his arms again.
“I’m going to kill Carl.” he says, kissing the top of your head, “No you won’t” you laugh, “Yes, you’re right, Maggie is gonna kill Carl.”
You then got back home, truly stressed but relieved that your father knows now. You’re sort of happy and excited about being a parent, you know you’re good with kids but being a parent involves so many things. So many really stressful things.
“I’m scared of telling mom, would you tell her?” you ask your dad, you know Maggie will never hurt you but you’re scared that she’ll be disappointed in you for some reason. Glenn accepted to tell her after asking you multiple times if you were sure you didn’t want to tell her yourself.
When you got back to Alexandria, you got to your house, going upstairs, Carl had just changed his bandage in the bathroom, still adjusting to his new handicap.
“Hello, missing lady.” he says, smiling at you, walking towards you to give you a quick kiss, you said hi back, “Where were you? I woke up in a empty bed.” he asks you, putting your hair behind your ear. “I got out on a run with my dad this morning.” you responded, trying to say it with a not too shaky voice.
“Oh, is it because you feel bad for some days now?” he looks so worried, “Yes but don’t worry, I-I am fine-” he looks at you confused, waiting for explanations.
You sit on the bed, ready to tell him. He stands here, looking at you closely.
“I did two tests at the drugstore this morning. I am pregnant, Carl.” you finally let out this painful secret. He is in shock, at first he doesn’t react so much, then he walks towards you and sits on the bed, you take him in your arms, he is in pure shock.
"How-I mean-” he stuttered, with a teary eye. “We didn’t protect ourselves the first times…I’m as surprised as you.”
“I’m sorry, I, don’t really know what to do-” he is totally panicked. You know how he lost his mother, it must be hard to process this information.
“It’s okay, calm down, we’ll be fine” you wipe the tear off his cheek, trying to comfort him softly. It is a big change in your life, it will be hard of course but that’s it.
You cross his look, then he smiles, you’re surprised, he starts laughing nervously, taking your hand “(Y/N), this is insane, it always happens to us, huh?” you laugh back, still sobbing a bit, “Oh god, I don’t know what we’re going to do but i know it is going to make our lives harder but better.”
It’s now his turn to take you in his arms, you then need a long talk;
How you’re dealing with it, what you need for the baby, if this is really what you want. “Are we gonna tell the others now?” he asks, stressed. “I think we need a bit to adjust, my dad knows and he’ll tell my mom. Maybe we should tell Michonne and Rick at the same time then for the others, maybe reunite them tomorrow…” you respond, confident.
“You decide, chef.” he kisses your forehead, agreeing to your plan. He needed a little bit of time to face his fears.
You then left for your parent’s;
As soon as you crossed Maggie’s way in the house, she dropped the freshly washed shirts she had in her hands to run to you, “Are you okay, sweetheart?” she asks worriedly, she knows and apparently she already had a long talk about it with your dad.
“I’m okay, i’m sorry mom” you apologize, feeling the tears coming again. “Gosh you should’ve asked for protection (Y/N)…Don’t apologize, now that it’s done it’s done. You told Carl yet? Is it even Carl’s?”
You laughed hearing her question “Yes it is mom, who would it be? I told him today…” “I hope he reacted well because i’m gonna kill him if he didn’t.” You know that when Glenn told her she got angry at first and then he pacified her, explaining the whole situation.
That night you got to your room, finding Carl crying, he didn’t expect you to come back to the room at this moment, “Carl…Are you okay?” “I’m fine, i’m fine, don’t worry” He wimped his tears off his face and let you lay with him, in a spoon he asks you “What are we going to do when you’ll have to give birth?”
You immediately understood he cried of overthinking, bad memories came back.
“We have Denise. We don’t have to worry about this right now, let’s see how the pregnancy goes, if we get to giving birth, i’ll be okay.” He holds you tight, a hand rubbing your stomach.
“Hey, (Y/N), i really don’t want you to think i’m not happy, i love you, i just need some time to process the info, i’m here for you and i’m sure i’ll be the happiest dad.” he whispered as it was late, when you heard this, you had some kind of a relieved feeling, you were so happy to hear this.
“I love you too, Carl.”
This was definitely too many emotions in one day. You surprisingly fell asleep pretty fast. When you woke up, Carl wasn’t in the bed, you got up and dressed up. You got downstairs to see Carl, Rick, Michonne and Judith all standing there.
“Hello, everyone.” you smiled, trying to guess if he already told them. They all said hi to you, Carl kissing you before whispering to your ear “I think we should tell them…”
He held you, an arm around your waist, “Well uhm, dad, Michonne, Judith, we- we have a big announcement to make right now-” he started confident then got cold feet.
“I’m pregnant.” you said opening your arms like “surpriiise” Michonne raised her eyebrows, eyes widened in shock. She stayed silent.
Rick almost dropped Judith from his arms hearing this, getting flashbacks of him allowing y’all to share a room…
“You- you are-” he stuttered trying to keep his mind…Michonne grabbed his arm “Oh god- Carl, (Y/N), you are two dumb teenagers, we need to talk for a second-” she took Rick with her in another room, Rick giving Judith to Carl for a second.
You both looked at each other, “I think they’re just- confused, it’s fine…” he tried to stay positive, looking at Judith with a not convinced smile. “You’ll be an aunt, Judith!” he told her.
She didn’t even know what the hell was going on she just cared on playing with Carl’s hair that got in her face when he kissed her forehead.
You were silent because of the stress of his parents’ reaction when they got back in the kitchen. “First of all, we’re not mad at you, we’re just really shocked, we know you’ll take care of the child. Are Glenn and Maggie aware of this?” Michonne asks, taking the comments because Rick was still dealing with the information.
“Yes they know.” you answered, a little smile on your face. Rick got forward and took Carl in his arms, he loves his son so much, he’s actually excited about a new born but he’s of course really anxious. Knowing Carl is very young, knowing maybe tomorrow Alexandria won’t exist anymore, that something could happen to you or the child.
Michonne looked at you with teary eyes, smiling, she also took Carl in her arms, he’s also like her son, she’s also scared of what could happen.
Rick hugged you while Michonne hugged Carl. “It’s gonna be alright.” he said, holding you head, rubbing your back. You’re so thankful to have Michonne and Rick in your life.
“So, do i look like i’d make a good grandpa?” he says, smiling at you before rubbing his eyes, sighing at his own sentence.
Carl laughed, looking back at Judith, “I think she’ll be a great aunt.” he said before looking at Rick and Michonne. “Oh yes she will, she’ll never let anyone approach her nephew or niece.” Michonne said laughing as she held your hand.
These were not expected reactions but they were the best you could’ve had. Of course the same day, Rick and Michonne got to Maggie and Glenn to talk about this madness.
Your mission was to tell everyone. You managed to somehow reunite the group in the Grimes’ house, you were so nervous before entering the room Carl had to calm you down.
“It’ll be fine, they’re gonna be all happy!” he reassured you, holding your head with both of his hands.
“You realize they’re gonna look at us and imagining us having sex, right? It’s embarrassing, Carl!” “No they’re not! I mean- maybe but then they will all smile and say congratulations and every classical pregnancy shit!” he tries to comfort you…
“If Abraham makes a joke, you owe me three chocolate bar.” you say with a frown.
He laughs “Come on” he takes you to the room, everyone is sitting there, confused. Glenn giving you a big comforting smile, Maggie looked at you with a kinda proud face. Rick and Michonne too, they were excited of seeing everyone’s reaction.
“Okay so, everyone, this was not expected for any of us but, I am pregnant.” you drop the bomb, making a tense smile as Carl adds “Surpriise!” opening his arms.
Sasha literally gasped as if she was watching a movie. You never saw Daryl surprised before, he raised his eyebrows before looking at Carol, she looked back at him, also surprised, letting out a nervous laugher.
Gabriel made the biggest smile you’ve ever seen “Wonderful! God bless!” he said, Rosita looked at him raising an eyebrow, she didn’t seem so surprised. Eugene didn’t even change his usual facial expression he just randomly said “I knew before you even said it.”
“Am i the only one so fucking shocked, oh my god!” Tara said, she’s the own that imagined you having sex and got traumatized by the image. Abraham laughed LOUDLY with a dad laugh.
Aaron smiled with furrowed eyebrows looking at everyone around him.
You looked up at Carl, “I think it got pretty well?” you tell him, laughing, “It’s not that bad.” he responds, kissing your forehead.
You all started a mini family party, celebrating this weird change in your life…
“I didn’t even know you knew what sex is-” Tara told you before Glenn interrupted her “I think we all know, thank you Tara.”
You walked towards Abraham and Carl with your dad,
“Hope you’ll name the baby after me.” he said pushing Carl’s shoulder with a proud look. You knew he made a dirty joke before saying this, you whispered to Carl’s ear “You owe me three chocolate bars, handsome.”
Rosita and Eugene were talking together with Gabriel, you got to them “Congratulations, (Y/N), i wish the best for this baby!” “Thank you, Father Gabriel” it actually got to your heart that Gabriel was so proud of you.
You hugged him before Carol, Daryl and Sasha reached you. “All my courage, kid.” Daryl said smiling at you before kissing your cheek, he’s always been like an uncle to you.
Maggie came into the little talking group, “I bet the baby will have Carl’s beautiful hair.” Sasha said laughing, “I’m sure the baby is going to get out of here wearing long hair.” Carol laughed with Sasha as Maggie put her arm around your waist, lying her head on your shoulder.
This is a freaking happy moment. You love them so much.

And They Were Roommates
Got brainworms from Ceilidho talkin' about Fem!Soap and wrote out a few scenarios, and landed on this one as my favourite. Maybe personal trainer Soap and hot woman complimenting you in a dive bar bathroom Soap will get written about later on.
Part 1
Part 2 Here
(Fem!SoapxFemReader) ~2.2k words
Alcohol mention, but no other major flags at this point. (A few jokes about axe murderers) But also MDNI because this is an 18+ blog and there will probably be NSFW content in future parts
You had put an ad up online.
Your best friend had moved in with her boyfriend, leaving you with more apartment than you could afford. You had enough savings to get you through till the next month, but things were going to be dicey if you didn’t find someone to take over Fern’s half of the rent soon.
You’d had plenty of responses, mostly from men that gave you creepy vibes, even through digital means. You’d actually met with only one person, and she was allergic to cats, which made her a no go.
She’d been nice enough, though. If it really came down to it, maybe Fern would take Red Herring. She did love that fat orange bastard. And so do you. The thought of giving him up, even to Fern, doesn’t sit right.
Red meows loudly through the door as your key scrapes in the lock. You nudge him away with your foot while you enter the apartment, wary of any escape attempts. You feed him so he stops yelling at you, and boil water so you can feed yourself some instant ramen for dinner, and boot up your laptop to check the ad again.
A few more creepy responses, one of which is just a slightly blurry dick pic. You delete them. One that looks promising.
>Hey! I’m interested in the room if it’s still available! Can we meet soon? I’m a military gal and I’m being deployed again next week and I already gave notice at the last rat-hole I was renting. Seemed like 60 days was plenty of time for apartment hunting 60 days ago, but I haven’t found anything lol. Hopefully we get along! You can give me a call any time in the next few days, and we can set up a meet’n’greet. Thanks a bunch! Jamie MacTavish
Her number is in brackets below that, next to the soap emoji, for whatever reason.
No sense waiting around. You call the number right away.
“Hello?” The voice is a woman’s, a dusky alto, which is a good first sign.
“Hi, Jamie? I’m calling about the apartment. Or, um, from the apartment.” You give her your name as an after thought, feeling silly that you hadn’t led with that.
“Yaldy! I was hopin’ ye’d call. I’ve got a friend I can move in with if it comes down to it, but I really don’t want to. He lives in a worse rat hole than I do. Are ye busy now? I’ll buy ye dinner if you like, just for the short notice and the trouble.”
Anything would be better than ramen for dinner a second night in a row. “Yeah, alright. There’s a decent pub down the street, Keeler’s? It’s close so I can give you an apartment tour if you pass the ‘not a murderer’ vibe check.”
There's a beat of silence. “Does killin’ people in the line of duty count?” she asked. “Because, er, I have. But I’m not like, prone to doin’ that kind of thing in my spare time.”
You think about it a moment. State sanctioned violence does feel different than personal time violence, although you're pretty sure that speaks to some sort of unaddressed bias. Something to think about. “I appreciate the honesty, at least.”
She laughed. “I can meet ye at yer pub in half an hour. That work for ye?”
“Yeah. That works.”
“Great. I’ll text you a picture of me so ye know who tae look for. See you soon.”
You get the text a minute after you hang up. A picture of a gorgeous woman with big smile and bright blue eyes, the sides of her head shaved, the rest of it left long and braided back from her face. She looks normal enough.
You get ready and head out, texting Fern to let her know where you’d gone, just in case Jamie actually was a murderer in her spare time.
Jamie’s already there when you get to the pub, sitting at the bar with a pint, watching the door intently, her leg bouncing. You give her a little wave, and she beams at you. She’s even hotter in real life, wearing tight, ripped up jeans that cling to her muscular thighs, and a tight black tank-top under a cropped leather jacket. She has almost no jewelry, other than the dog tags around her neck and the silver hoops in her ears. She looks, well, normal. Friendly.
You go up and introduce yourself, earning a firm handshake. She’s strong.
“Hi!” she says excitedly. “Nice to meet you. I’m Jamie, but my friends call me Soap. I’d tell ye why, but it’s classified.”
“Is it really?”
“No. But it’s fun to say.” She flags down the bartender. “A pint for my friend here, if you don’t mind. You want to grab a booth? Or stay up at the bar?”
You look around, and there’s a few empty booths, but it’s early yet, and they tend to fill up quickly. “Let’s move. If we stay up here the single dads are going to start hitting on us.”
"We are a couple of dolls, aren't we?" She flashed another big smile at the bartender as he set a second pint out. "We're movin' to a table, if ye don't mind."
"No problem, love," he says, obviously besotted already. "I'll send Jenny around to take your order."
"Thanks, pal. Appreciate it."
You pick up the pint and follow her over to a booth, sliding in on the opposite side.
"So, you said you're military?"
"Ah am. SAS no less. Best of the bloody best. Not many jobs where ye get tae blow things up awl the time." She sheds her jacket, revealing impressively muscled arms. "I could just live on base, if things don't work out here, just so ye ken. No pressure on ye. But I hate stayin' on base when I don't have to. It's the communal showers. Most of the lads are, well, lads. Gotta shower in the middle of the night, and I keep bumpin' into my LT when I do. And he said I could move in with him too. I’m in a rush but I willnae be homeless, so ye don’t need to worry about me if you dinnae think we’ll get along."
You wince in sympathy. "That sounds terrible. I don't think I'd ever be comfortable showering in front of other people."
"Is naw so bad, if it's someone ye like seein' naked. But most of em are munters anyway. Wouldnae mind so much if more of 'em looked like you." She winked over the edge of her pint glass and took a swig.
You laugh at her little joke. She's fun, and you already feel at ease with her. She tells you about her old rat hole apartment, and a little about living on base, although she's a bit vague on the details of her actual job, beyond blowing things up.
She asks you about your work, and you tell her about the used bookshop you work at down the road. You're basically the only employee, and it's usually not too busy, although it can be annoying when you get a rush in the middle of pricing 'new' books. But it pays the rent, more or less. You talk a bit about Fern, and about Red Herring too.
"I love cats," she said excitedly. "Never been able to keep one, bein' away so much. LT had a dog, and he was awlright, but I'm definitely more of a cat girl. Got bit by a few too many pups in my day."
"Well, Red's a real love bug. Once we're done here you can meet him. I think we're going to get along fine."
"Och, really? Just like that, aye? Thought I'd have to work harder."
"Honestly, I thought I was going to have to accept some weirdo or give poor old Red away. You're a much better fit than I expected to find. I think we could be friends."
Her blue eyes track something behind you and narrow slightly. "Well, I'm holdin' ye to that. We're about to be accosted by my lads. Don't let them scare ye." She shoves her plate across the table into the spot next to you and clambers out of the booth. "Oi, what're you munters doin' here? I'm gettin' interviewed for an apartment. Dinnae need you scarin' my girl."
You look behind you, spotting a giant wearing a skull-print balaclava, and a more regular-sized (though no less muscular) black man with a brilliant smile. "We wanted to make sure she wasn't an axe murderer," he says pleasantly.
"Or a chainsaw murderer," the giant adds.
Soap cuts him off before he can take the seat beside you. "Over there," she orders, pointing at the opposite bench, where she'd been sitting. "I'm not lettin' you box her in." She grimaces at you apologetically as she drops into the spot beside you. Her thigh presses against yours for a moment, before you shift further down the bench. "They're sweet, in their own way. Think I need lookin' after. The big guy's Ghost, or LT. This handsome pain in the arse is Gaz. Don't let him sweet talk ye intae callin' him Kyle unless you want him tae put yer ankles up by yer ears. Made that mistake before."
"You don't have to bring that up every time you introduce me to a woman," Gaz says, clearly exasperated.
"I do. How else are they gonna know to call you for a good time?" She smacks his hand away from her plate when he reaches for it. "Oi! Order your own chips ye bastard."
"I only want a couple," Gaz protests.
"Ye always say tha' and ye always lie. Ah umnae fallin' for it again."
"You can have a couple of mine," you offer. "I wasn't going to finish them anyway."
"When do we get to see the place?" Ghost asked.
"Ye don't, unless yer carryin' boxes for me. I willna ask her to let three strangers in her home when she's only just met me."
"Well I guess we're helpin' ye move," Ghost said. "Was gonna leave it all to Price."
"Lazy cunts. Ne’er around when there’s work tae be done.”
“I was gonna help,” Gaz protests. “I already told you that.”
“And I did tell you that you could move into my place if you didn’t find somethin’ in time,” Ghost points out. “We’re not all bad.”
“Well, they’re not bad lads tae have watchin’ yer back in a fire-fight,” Soap admits. “But they dinnae know how to be normal about anythin’.”
“Are you supposed to be the normal one?” Ghost asks.
“Aye. And I willnae have you say otherwise in front of my new friend.”
She finishes eating long before you do, with the speed and gusto of a woman who often has to defend her plate against hungry scavengers. Gaz, true to Soap’s complaint, eats the majority of your chips, although he does thank you and give you a big, wide smile, the sort that could sell someone a bridge. He’s definitely a charmer.
Soap asks for the bill while you’re finishing up. You reach for your purse, but she puts a hand on yours and gives you an intense blue stare. “No, kitty. I told ye I was buyin’ ye dinner, I’ll no’ let ye make me a liar, especially when Gaz ate half your plate.”
God she’s strong. You’re not sure that you could shake her off to insist even if you tried. “Alright. I just—”
“Oh I ken. But I wouldna offer if I didna mean it. I’m a woman of her word.” She pays with cash, and offers you a hand up and out of the booth. She points a warning finger at her friends. “And dinnae follow us, ye creepy bastards.”
They laugh, like they hadn’t followed her to the pub in the first place.
“They really do mean well,” Soap says, linking her arm with yours as you step out onto the street. “But they’ve go’ a bad habit of thinkin’ they dinnae need to respect my space just ‘cause we’ve all spent nights crammed into one room sharin’ cots. I think if the captain had his way we’d all live in his house and sleep in a big fuck-off pile like dogs.”
“Sound a bit claustrophobic.”
“Aye. Ye understand why I’m so eager to make this work with ye, kitty-cat. If I move in with LT it’s just a matter of time before Price comes over tae help us fix somethin’ and says ‘Oh, I dinny know why ye both stay in this shitehole. Whyna stay with me a while, till we find ye somethin’ better?’ And then before we know it we’re all sleepin’ in the same bed and usin’ the same toothbrush.”
You giggle, hoping that's just a joke. “That’s gross.”
“I ken! Horrible men, they are. I need some girl time before I go mad.” She squeezes your arm and knocks her head against yours gently. “We’re goin’ tae be best friends in no time, kitty. I wish I wasna goin’ away so soon.”
“You haven’t even seen the apartment yet!”
“Och, tha’s a formality. I was more wurried about us gettin’ along, kitty. The apartment doesna matter all that much, so long as it’s got a workin’ shower and a place for my bed. If I pass Mr. Herring’s sniff test, I’ll give ye cash on the spot, aye? For next month an’ half of this one, since you’d be lettin' me move in before the first.”
And, well, it’s hard to think of a good reason to say no.

HIII!! THANK YOU for feeding the place kalpas has in my heart you’re honestly a keeper to everyone in the kalpas community!🧡 this came to me literally only 2 hours before halloween (for me) but late or not I cannot fight the urge to send this
hear me out here please just hear me out🙏 Kalpas halloween fic!! or just a halloween fic/hcs with all the flame chasers like their costumes some type of scenario and literally anything you could think of that reminds you of halloween and the flame chasers because who doesn’t like Halloween? Like said it’s a little bit too late but I had to share my idea with someone and if you can’t write about it that’s completely understandable as well!
Again thank you SO SO much for feeding the kalpas community because I used to never see ANYTHING about him. Looking forward to all the future fics you write!! AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE 🧡🖤
It's Monday and Halloween!!!! You know what that means! Lots and lots of words below the cut, and none of them the words I promised last week! I saw this ask last night and started crying because you are so nice immediately was in love with the idea! So without further ado, I present, HALLOWEEN! 🧡🖤🧡🖤
Just kidding, you have to scroll past more nonsense before you can get to the good stuff
That first part of the ask my brain went "WOW!" and then immediately to that Doofenshmirtz meme where he goes “by default!! My Favorite way to win!!!” I know I’m not the only writer or person making content in the community, and I’m honestly super super happy you guys like my works and I’m delighted to be part of the Kalpas community!
Halloween is like. My absolute favorite. Very sad I never decorate for it, but it holds a special place in my heart. So I was thrilled to get this request, especially because I’m back on my “the story got out of hand” bullshit and don’t have this week’s fic done If I ever get 2 out in a row it’ll be a miracle I am sorry.
So this started as like HCs and I was gonna do all the Flame Chasers during Halloween, but I, once again, losT CONTROL OF MY WRITING. I just wanted to do a few bullet points for Kalpas, and now I have THIRTY THREE. AND I AM NOT DONE.
So 👏 because I am horrible at posting on time I made the schedule and I still never follow it, and can’t stop myself from going overboard with the Kalpas writing, you’re getting basically a whole story, but it’s in like a list format because I will turn this into another 20k word fic if given the opportunity. Actually, it probably will turn into a full story eventually how many times have I said that? but for now! I present! Way Too Many Thoughts On Halloween Kalpas! (insert Kermit arms here)
Ok, Griseo is obviously not the only kid on base, but because of her and her parents, trick-or-treating on base is a whole thing.
Even Kevin will hand out candy
(Actually Dr. Mei hands it out, he just stands there menacingly, but at least he tries)
Kalpas scares most of the kids, so he’s one of those people to leave the basket outside the door.
He doesn’t just leave it tho
Man sits there watching the security feed for his door like it’s fucking TV
One kid grabs too much and he slams the door open and goes “HEY”
Kid books it
You’re across the hall handing out candy and can’t help but laugh
He looks straight at you
Kid you’re giving candy to runs away as well
Cue awkward laugh and door slam
End of the night he’s pounding on your door
Because this man doesn’t know how to knock normally or use a doorbell, you can’t convince me otherwise
You value your life, so you don’t answer the door because it’s Kalpas
He finds you later anyway
“Your pumpkin”
“My jack-o’lantern?
“Sure”
“What about it?”
“Do one for me.”
“It’s past Halloween?”
“Next year.”
“Okay????”
(sad part I am sorry)
After Griseo’s parents die, everyone wants to do something to cheer her up
Elysia and Eden suggest summerween, and like who’s gonna argue with them
Kalpas comes back to you about the jack-o’lantern
He wants you to do one with his mask on it
But he won’t give you his mask
Or let you take a picture or anything
So now he’s just sitting in your kitchen while you carve out this design
He actually makes decent company
Little awkward when you offer him a drink and he just stares at you
You guys talk and yes he is very murder-y, but he also is kinda funny and you both get along surprisingly well
The pumpkin turns out really well
Even though it’s Kalpas’ mask, and he’s scary, everyone (kids included) think it’s super cool
Since the kids really like you, he stays at your place and you both answer the door
You kinda cancel each other out, so the kids aren’t as scared of him, but they’re also bouncing off the walls to go to your door
You have the GOOD candy. You know, like king sized bars and plenty of variety. You’re invested
It’s nice to have company, and even if he doesn’t show it at the door, Kalpas is excited to see the kids excited
You leave a random Halloween movie on in the background to watch when you’re not answering the door
Eventually, the kids start coming less frequently
You two just end up watching a whole movie together
Ok, now imagine it’s Halloween again, and you guys are dating this time around.
ONE HUNDRED MILLION PERCENT you have the best door.
this man literally has a jack-o'-lantern mask when he goes into his second phase, you know he loves Halloween
We’re talkin
Spider webs
Multiple jack-o’-lanterns
Purple, green and orange lights around the frame
A skeleton by the door
Because your room and his are across the hall from each other, you make like spooky tree archway
MORE spider webs
Bubbling cauldron in front of Kalpas’ door
(to let people know not to go there)
Fog machine under his door
Warning signs written in fake blood
You name it, it’s there
Elysia is very jealous, she’s won the past 3 door decorating contests but you win by a mile
she says it's cheating because you had two doors, but she uses Eden's door too
Even before Halloween, you guys are just enjoying fall
You make pumpkin pie together
He makes it actually
You just sit nearby and try to steal little bits
It doesn’t work, but you can usually convince him to give you a kiss instead, since you’ve obviously been robbed
You drink apple cider and almost make yourself sick on candy corn
He stops you, but you have a secret stash
You make apple pie together
He makes the crust, but you cut all the apples so you’re helping! Even if you do sneak one or two slices
There is a whole list of movies you have to get through before Halloween night
They range from cheesy horror
like classics that have just been overplayed to the point of being bad
To actually scary movies
He’s wearing a mask so you don’t know if he’s scared, but you sure as hell are
he lets you move his arm around however you need to feel safe
Won’t turn the movie off tho
“You made the list”
“I didn’t think it was this bad!”
“I want to know how it ends”
and like, you're not gonna leave your safe spot next to him, so you're just stuck there
To movies meant more for kids
Halloweentown, Nightmare Before Christmas you can watch that twice a year, Over the Garden Wall, that sorta thing
Kalpas complains that they’re for kids, but he sits through the whole thing every time
Kalpas refuses to do matching costumes
He doesn’t wear any sort of costume, which you think is mega lame
He is pretty scary on his own though, so you let it slide
Overall, Halloween is the best time of the year
Because of all the ways you get to celebrate
But also, it’s the beginning of colder weather and you can sit next to Kalpas without boiling
It’s also the time of year he’s most likely to take his mask off for you
You’re so happy to decorate, and he’s legally obligated to kiss you when you smile like that
(unrelated HC, if he wants to kiss you but there’s people around, he’ll just stare at you until they leave because he’s being creepy, or you get the hint and go somewhere private. Won’t let people see his face, but is not at all shy at letting them know how much he cares for you)

that's it
that's all I got
I do want to do HCs for all the Flame chasers celebrating Halloween at some point, so maybe if I'm feelin spicy and I finish this gosh darn story I was supposed to do like 5 weeks ago I'll do another Halloween post. In the mean time, I hope this will tide you over to next week when I post a story that's so long no one wants to read it!
Happy Halloween!!

We! Need! More! Magne! Content! Can I please get Magne dealing with an anonymous secret admirer who specializes in those letters from books that premake the love letter like (Letters To My Love: Write Now. Read Later.) and the entirety of a little book (Knock Knock What I Love About You) among whatever else basically fill in the blank love letters the only reason she can't guess the admirer is because they use a little calligraphy to hide their normal handwriting the only reason she catches them is because she catches them in the act and they admit to never approaching her simply because they don't have relationship experience or as they say any of her life experience they admire her (when the letters started) which turned to crushing on which developed into love
(!!!!!WE NEED MORE MAGNE CONTENT!!!!!)
~Magne's Secret Admirer~
Tumblr media

"Ugh damn it!" She slammed her fist onto the counter at the bar area and dropped her pen. Toga stopped playing on her phone and turned her head to peek over her shoulder. She watched Magne do the same thing she did every single week for the past 3 weeks in a row. Finally her curiosity got the best of her and she decided to check it out. She locked up her device and placed it on the couch cushion before getting up and skipping over to the bar. Magne's forehead was on the counter and her arms hung in defeat at her side. She groaned and Toga gently reached over to pat her back. "Are you okay big sis?" The girl asked with genuine concern. Magne groaned again before finally sitting up and staring at the paper in front of her. "Yeah I guess...I'm actually not okay. Himiko, how well can you keep a secret?" Magne looked over at her and waited. "Hmmmm..." Toga placed a finger on her cheek thoughtful. "Pretty good I think! I'm better than Twice at least." She teased playfully. "Okay well come with me then." Magne got up and Toga followed behind her faithfully. Magne opened her bedroom door and ushered for Toga to come in first. Magne then looked around to make sure nobody was watching when she entered herself, closed, and locked the door. Toga took a seat on the bed and pulled the large stuffed penguin into a hug while she watched Magne dig through a shoebox she'd pulled from underneath the bed. When Magne found what she was looking for, she pulled out the paper and shoved the box back underneath her bed. "Here look at this and tell me what you think these are." Magne shoved the stuffed animal out of the way and placed the paper into Toga's lap. She crossed her arms and watched Toga scan the letters with her eyes before looking up and gasping lightly. "Love letter??? You've got a-"
"A secret admirer, I know! But I can't fucking seem to figure out who it is. I mean, I keep looking over these letters and it feels like I'm only getting half of what I need to figure this out. I mean, what do you think? Do you have any idea what this could even be? Any clues, suspects, literally anything!?!?!" Magne freaked out just a tiny bit. She'd never truly been the object of another person's affections. Not even during school was she very desirable to the others around her. When she was younger she was shy and could've blamed most her issues on simply not approaching enough people first. Her confidence came later in life after meeting with her close friend Yukine. So to now be in the romantic sights of someone was a big shock to her. The only obstacle now is trying to figure out just who it was. Toga sat with her and started narrowing down suspects.
Boss man couldn't be the one, could he? He's got a bit of Tsundere potential but what really would he do if he liked someone? Probably not love letters.
Dabi could've been it but he didn't seem like the love letter kind of guy either.
Spinner was a big potential so we'd add him to the list.
Y/N seemed like a very close friend, maybe like family almost?
Twice would've said so by now if it was him.
Compress and Kurogiri are STRONG suspects when it comes to something like love letters.
Muscular and Mustard no. Muscular didn't show interest in her and Mustard was a literal child.
Moonfish maybe???
Could it be someone outside of the league? Maybe Giran perhaps? He wasn't the love letter kind of guy but then again...he was unpredictable to most.
The girls had turned into detectives just overnight. Magne's wall was scattered with bits of paper and thumbtacks with yarn connecting them. The two of them were running back down the list of suspects for at least the rest of that week. By the time Friday had rolled around, Magne was once again on the lookout for the new weekly letter. She usually got them in the same place (slipped under her bedroom door when she least expected it). That's why today she had her door wide open as she stayed in her room all day long on lookout. However, she was still human at the end of the day. That meant she eventually needed to fall asleep. In the dead hours of the night, he admirer struck once again. When she woke up she wiped the grogginess from her face and waited until her eyes adjusted to the light sweeping over the bedroom from just behind the thin veiled curtains. When her eyes made contact with the envelope she gasped and quickly fumbled out of bed. She grabbed the letter, inspected it for just a second, slammed the door and then locked it. She rushed to her desk and grabbed a pen to try and decipher the note. It ended in failure yet again and she was beginning to feel like she was losing her mind over it. Something so sweet and romantic was starting to bring her sadness and frustration. She would've spent the entire day moping around in silence had she not just barely noticed you sitting at the bar scribbling something onto a familiar type of paper. The type of paper that had a certain texture and color to it. The same type of paper that her secret admirer had used for every letter she'd gotten. Magne quietly moved to stand over your back and watched your hand weave the intricate words onto the paper right in front of her eyes. You eventually felt that feeling that someone was standing before you swiveled around and gasped.
"AHA! I CAUGHT YOU RED HANDED!!!!" Magne shouted before jumping up and down and quickly taking a seat right next to you. "Y/N it was you?! It was you the whole time! Why??? Why didn't you just tell me how you felt! I mean, the letter were cute and all but I was having a pretty shit time at trying to figure everything out." She stopped talking and stared at you with wide eyes, awaiting an answer to it all. You side and cleared your throat, looking everywhere but directly into her eyes. "I thought it would be the best way to do things. I've never really had any type of relationship experience before so I figured this would be okay. I mean, for a while I spent a good bit of my time admiring you. I think eventually I'd somehow fallen in love with you when the crush started feeling like it was suffocating me. I like you. I like everything about you and I was worried you wouldn't feel the same." Magne reached out and pinched your side. "Oww, hey!" You moved quickly to the side and frowned. She smiled widely at you and quickly pulled you into a hug. "Sorry, I just felt like you needed to be brought back to reality so I pinched you. Y/N you shouldn't ever be scared to admit your feelings to me. I like everything about you too. I mean Hell, to me you're one of the best people I've ever had walk into my mess of a life. If you'll still have me then I'd kill for a date with you." She pulled away from the hug and stared at you with hopeful eyes. You smiled and gently cuffed her face with your hands. "I can't wait."

okk what was the dream i had during my nap today....i had alarms every 10 minutes bc i wanted to get up earlier than i did so it was all in slices. i only remember 2
1. psychic girl upset turns into keeping an eye on little kids 2. the kids are still there but we are now in a different environment 3. i’m at some kind of plant hotel preloaded with memories of some auto-assigned boyfriend that i wasn’t too pleased with & then i ran into my friend who was being MEAN TO ME
- smth about supervising some younger kids who were kinda troublemakers. i was psychic also? idk. it wasn’t ME at first i was just spectating this psychic teenager girl who had like shoulder length fluffy red hair & dark eyes & moderate acne & she was crying bc there were people on like. a pilgrimage? through the forest. these people were generally considered victims somehow like they were rendered homeless either through a natural disaster or other people’s actions & they were walking through the field next to the forest. they might have also been psychic idk but like a different kind of psychic
- oh yeah the area...all mostly shades of gray. the girl was wearing like a faded yellow dress. the grass was like that pale yellowish gold color when it’s dying in fall, the sky was like soupy with white clouds, the trees were tightly packed. i remember pine bark but there were also trees with leaves...i think tulip trees? idk. also pale yellow. the people walking were all in thick dark gray shawls over their clothes.
- anyway the redhead girl i was spectating asked them to please take a detour. go a different way. she was really upset. i’m not sure why - if it was unsafe, if their psychic thoughts grated against her brain, if she jsut didn’t want them in the yard. idk. it didn’t work well. she kept crying.
- eventually she did manage to relocate? not sure how. there were some cliffs and they took the path of least resistance & made a right turn across the field to the other rim of the forest. the sun was setting now, or maybe everything was just redder. there were kids being mean to each other on top fo the cliff daring each other to jump or to shove somebody else off, i became an entity allied with the redhead girl, who stopped crying & i grabbed some of the kids at the edge & bounded down the side of the cliff, & the redhead girl now had powers of imagination of some kind & did as well. some of the kids were crying & freaking out but i was like you know what this is better than? & they were like what? & i was like being a you pancake! & they all just looked at me & i went ooohh tough crowd huh...the air is so suffocating...gack...& fell on the ground &^ some laughed & started shaking me around.
- the psychic girl created some kind of imaginary cowboy scenario & kabang! we were off! riding off into the sunset (the sunset was north of the field where no trees were) but somehow still alongside the people on their walk. the children were happy.
second part
- i don’t remember how we ended up here, but it was the amphitheater at my middle school i think. there was some kind of presentation up in the front that everyone was supposed to be paying attention to. the lilghts were off & everything.
- we were in like the back row - not all the way to the back of the theater but one behind the one where everyone else was sitting. we were acting up being rambunctious. the presentation was light blue & everything had like the electric blue cast to it.
- anyway since we were being rambunctious we got in trouble. i really am blanking on the deteails. there were more seats going horizontally than i remember in real life & i kept having to move from the right to the left. idk. i meant to be detailed in this part too but it’s just not happening.
third part
- new setting!  i’m actually too lazy for this rn i was gonna tell my friend about it bc he was also in here, so once i did that i’ll come back later & paste it
the gist is that i was on spy business in the DARK PLANT HOTEL AREA & i was airdropped in. i saw part of the hotel from above & it was like these yellow stone towers but the kind that are gloopy on top & one had a red stamp & one was black. anyway i went in there & i was preloaded with memories to make me blend in better of having to date this dude from my HS graphic design class but he was really lame & i was thinking of breaking up with him bc he was too shy to do much more than 1 kiss on the lips. also everyone was dressed fancy but he was dressed in a badly fitting black suit so i was like i gotta ditch this bozo he’s cramping my style... (i do not recall my outift) . then i ran into one of my friends instead who was like what are you doing here? & iw as like it’s hot girl shit. im spying. i’m investigating.& he was like right. people would definitely hire you as a spy bc you’re so short they wouldn’t be able to see you :^) & i got so mad i woke up

Fluffy Harry& Sirius scenario: Harry coming back inside from flying, finds that Sirius is taking a nap, and then curls up next to him.
oh anon, this is exactlllly what i needed today. how did you know?
here's a live dribble for this prompt, i hope it meets expectations <3
It had been an unusual summer day from the start, an unusual Friday where Remus was the one at the table in the morning when Harry woke up and stumbled into the kitchen without his glasses for breakfast. Something about being twelve and deciding he didn't actually need them, not when he knew the halls of Number 12 like the back of his hand, and he didn't need to see Remus and Sirius's faces, especially not when they were scolding him and telling him to go put on his glasses.
Usually, Sirius was the one awake in the quiet morning, already halfway done for the day. Having been up for hours doing all sorts of things. Usually, Remus was the one sleeping, and sometimes after Harry ate, he would go back to bed with Remus because it was summer, and what else was there to do but lounge about in your shorts and sleep the days away?
But Remus was the one awake and had a cup of coffee in front of him, his own glasses on his face--the ones Harry rarely saw him wear.
"Morning, Harry," Remus smiled softly.
"Why are you up? Is there an emergency?" Harry asked around a yawn, rumpling his hair before flopping into the kitchen chair. Remus lazily flicked his wand, summoning a bowl of summer berries over to the table with some yogurt. Remus breakfast.
"Curious what kind of emergency you think would get me out of bed at this hour?"
"Dunno...fire?"
Remus mumbled something that sounded vaguely like let me burn, before levitating toast over to the table as well, "No fire. Sirius is doing some schoolwork, he's in the study, and...we swapped today so he could get that finished."
Harry hummed, taking a slice of toast from the plate and putting it into his mouth to hold it while he grabbed the knife and the butter. The start of Harry's second year was also the start of Sirius taking legal coursework at the ministry, intent on becoming a member of wizarding council, and Sirius had chosen to continue doing work over the summer. It was different-- the first 10 years of Harry's life, Sirius had always been around. And he still was, of course, but Harry was adjusting to Sirius being in his study late at night; to Remus making dinner a few times over the winter hols; to Sirius reading more than Harry had seen him previously.
He took the toast out of his mouth, "He's busy all day?"
"Not all day," Remus assured him, "Hopefully he'll come up for air in the afternoon, and if not--"
"Then we can start an actual fire in the kitchen so he comes to put it out?"
"I was going to go with playing music loudly but, that works too."
-
But the morning passed and afternoon came, Sirius still not making an appearance, even as Harry went out into the backyard to fly. Remus was the one who was supervising. Sirius hadn't even emerged from his study when there was a minor row about said supervision, Harry's voice rising louder than it probably should have.
I play at school, no one is even out there for practices! You don't need to watch me out here like I'm five
If you were five, I'd go get the kneepads and helmet out of the attic. Take your pick.
The mid-afternoon sun became too hot, and after a few hours, Harry was tired, even if he didn't admit it. He made to walk down the hall to go back towards Sirius's study but halted at the sitting room. Sirius was there, book in his lap and fast asleep. Though he was sitting up, as if he hadn't intended on falling asleep at all, one of his elbows on the armrest, propping his head up, his ponytail lopsided.
Harry titled his head to the side, realizing he hadn't actually ever seen Sirius sleep before. In fact, Harry had wondered if Sirius ever did many times, because he was always awake when Harry needed him. Early morning before tests at school where Harry would get a funny feeling in his stomach, late at night when the sheets at Hogwarts were suddenly too scratchy and not right, in the middle of the afternoon when Harry just wanted to say hi. Sirius...always picked up the mirror. But here he was...asleep, and Harry wasn't sure what to do.
"Har--oh." Remus said, his voice dropping as he stopped at the sight, "Finally."
"I've never seen him nap before."
"Odd isn't it? I barely recognize him when he sits still," Remus nudged Harry lightly, "There's lemonade for you in the kitchen. Or...we could bring it in here?"
Harry nodded, gingerly stepping into the room, suddenly very aware of how heavy his steps were, how noisy his breathing was, moving to sit next to Sirius on the couch softly. He moved carefully, taking the book off of Sirius's lap and closing it, making sure he used a bookmark to mark the place, just like Sirius liked it.
Harry drew his legs up onto the cushions, daring to move just a few inches closer, so he could rest his cheek on his godfather's arm.
That would do.
-
Harry dozed off, at some point after quiet lemonade and Remus joining them in the armchair across the room. He didn't wake up until he felt the body underneath him startle awake.
"Shit what time is it," Sirius said immediately, jostling Harry unintentionally, Harry's face still pressed into his arm, "Oh, I'm sorry."
"Don't say shit," Harry mumbled rubbing the sleep off his face, watching as Sirius did the same, reaching up to coax the hair tie out of his messy hair, surveying the scene extremely disoriented.
"Was I asleep?"
"Yeah. We came in from flying and you were out."
Sirius sighed, "I'm sorry, love. I moved here because I wanted to watch you fly while I read...fell asleep instead, I suppose."
"Bodies need sleep, Sirius."
"Now who told you that?"
Harry rolled his eyes, "Oh I don't know, some bloke with weird tattoos has told me once or twice."
"Hm, well, I might have to disagree with him on this particular occasion..." Sirius trailed off, "I wish I could've flown with you." Sirius reached over to push Harry's hair off his forehead, hand lingering on the back of Harry's head softly. He let Sirius keep him there for a moment, before giving in to the urge to hug his godfather.
Harry wrapped his arms around Sirius's waist, squeezing one arm between his godfather's back and the couch, "It's okay...napping is actually one of my favorite activities. So, this was just as good."
"Really?"
"Really. I don't mind. Anytime with you is good."
Sirius chuckled, kissing Harry on the top of his head, "You're the best kid, you know that?"
"Strange man with tattoos has also told me that a few times."

Subtext and Culture, Young Royals, Season 1, Episode 2
Episode 2 picks up the morning day after the initiation party, the girls are having breakfast lunch at their dorm, the boys at theirs, and everyone wants the juicy details about what happened at the party...
Tumblr media
Culture: Tell me more, tell me more, did you get very far? Although, it's pretty funny how the roles are reversed, Maddie is all "meh" about it, while Nils tells a different story. Then again, since when do you get together after a blowjob?
Culture: I actually have no idea why Simon is having breakfast at Skogsbacken, since regular schools only cover lunch for students, everyone eats breakfast at home, and then goes to school. Then again, it allows a scene where (Never mind, they're having lunch, thanks @kamand !) Blink and you miss it: Wilhelm casts some nervous glances at Simon after having been called out for disappearing at the party and almost forced to confess to making out with someone.
Culture: I know Felice is trying to put August down, but don't knock a proper Swedish pizza! As much as I like living in the US, they can't fucking make pizzas here, and the first thing I eat every time I go back to Sweden is always a real pizza. With pineapple and shrimp as God intended pizza to be made!
Culture: August is namedropping ski resorts in the Alps, which is where you go skiing in Europe if you have money, although Saint-Martin-de-Belleville is actually near Val Thorens in France, while Verbier is in Switzerland. It does have a three-star restaurant, though. Sweden and Norway have a couple of decent ski resorts, but the Scandinavian mountain chain is simply not as impressive as the Alps.
Subtext: Remember Wilhelm getting up and hurrying to math class in the beginning of the scene? It was so he could grab the other seat next to Simon, because he knows Simon is gonna sit next to Sara, since no-one else does.
Culture: Formally greeting your teacher before class is very uncommon in Sweden, but since Hillerska is all about discipline and tradition, of course they do it. Note that they're again using the formal Swedish title for male teachers, Magister, which in a regular school would be kind of a joke, since teachers and students are on a first-name basis with each other.
Subtext: Wilhelm is exposing how the world works if you have money. At Simon's old school, studying alone would result in good grades, but Hillerska is slightly corrupt and almost expects the students to essentially pay for getting a good grade.
Subtext: Simon is lying to his teacher, he absolutely hasn't talked to his parents about paying for private lessons.
Tumblr media
Subtext: No, Sara absolutely does care about what other people think about her, and when she directly tells Felice that she would actually like some friends, that's when Felice gets it and starts making an effort to become real friends with her.
Culture: They're all bilingual at Simon's home, they're all speaking Spanish and Swedish, although Linda has a very noticeable accent to her Swedish. Based on demographics and statistics, the most likely scenario is that Linda immigrated to Sweden from Chile, met Micke, and started a family. In real life, Omar Rudberg was born in Venezuela and grew up in Sweden, while Carmen Gloria Pérez was born in New York, and grew up in Puerto Rico.
Subtext: Remember how I talked in the intro post about how distant social classes know nothing of each other? Ayub and Rosh are either working class or lower middle class like Simon, and since rowing is a typical upper class sport, they know nothing of it, they don't even think of it as a real sport. Unlike football, which is a proper working class sport, they know all about that!
Subtext: Scandinavia has Jantelagen, and everyone there thinks it's uniquely Scandinavian, but all countries have some form of Tall Poppy Syndrome. In this scene, Simon is starting to make a class journey, he started rowing, he started trying to fit in with the other upper-class kids, and getting into a relationship with someone as upper-class as Wilhelm would definitely move him all the way. But going on a journey means leaving things behind, which is why Rosh and Ayub are cutting him down and literally turning their backs on him. They like it in the small town of Bjärstad, why can't he be happy there too? Why is he betraying his roots?
Subtext: This comment from August nicely foreshadows a later episode when August does something traceable on a School computer...
Subtext: What August means is that he's not sure Wilhelm has the same desire to be accultured into the upper class, to play the part of a proper prince, in the same way that he and Erik have accepted their roles and are even enjoying them.
Tumblr media
Culture: Although it's impossible to read the name of the medicine, the paper tag on the bottle indicates that it's some kind of prescription medicine. From the conversation with Vincent, we learn that it's some kind of ADHD medication, probably some kind of Dextroamphetamine since those improve athletic ability and cognitive functions in healthy people.
Culture: Birkenstock sandals are associated with hippies in Sweden as well as in many parts of the world, so August is actually saying that the school counselor isn't really part of the same upper-class society as the rest of the staff. And again, his use of the word sosse drives the point home.
Subtext: Consequently, the counselor sees right through August and refuses to immediately prescribe him the medication that he wants...
Subtext: ...even though August tries to both bribe him and threaten him into giving him the medication he wants.
Subtext: A big theme of this episode is class journeys, and in this scene and a previous exercise scene, August gushes about how good a thing that is, how proud he is of Simon for going on one, and spouts some crap about how everyone can make it if they really want to.
Subtext: Thankfully, Madison says what we're all thinking: August is full of shit, life isn't fair, and they're only at the school because they were born into privilege.
Tumblr media
Blink and you miss it: After Wilhelm has nervously texted his crush for the first time, he starts to bite his fingernails, but quickly stops himself, because why would he be nervous? He's just texting another boy about rowing practice, there's nothing more to it!
Subtext: Simon's texting game is on point though, he knows exactly what he should write to get Wilhelm to go on a totally-not-a-date with him.
Subtext: In the same way that August couldn't convince the counselor about being sick, I don't think Wilhelm's atrocious acting here convinces August that he's sick either.
Culture: Public transport in the greater Stockholm area - or wherever we're supposed to be - is of course cash-less, and you pay by either charging a special card, or by signing up in their app and buying tickets through there. The point of this scene though is to drive home how Wilhelm has never ever had to take the bus before in his life, and therefore has no idea how it works.
Culture: The totally-not-a-date starts at a Circle K, which in Sweden is just another gas station, but it is actually a Canadian multi-national convenience store corporation. The price of gas is of course posted in kr/l, and 13.98kr/l corresponds to roughly $6/gal.
Subtext: Throughout the totally-not-a-date, Wilhelm is trying to reach for common ground with Simon, trying to show him how he's just a regular guy...
Subtext: ...but then real life intrudes, Wilhelm is recognized by some local girls, who call out to him and run away giggling, which shows how he's not a regular guy, he's going to get recognized wherever he goes.
Culture: Kokt eller grillat, boiled or grilled, are the two ways you can get your hot-dog at pretty much any hot-dog place in Sweden, and ketchup and mustard is always offered. The correct answer to this question is of course grilled, with ketchup and mustard, and this just shows that Wilhelm is a man of culture and good taste. Unfortunately, they were out grilled ones, so they all got boring soggy boiled hot-dogs instead. Is there a metaphor here? I don't know.
Tumblr media
Subtext: Again, the show drives home the point that absolutely no-one has a problem with people being gay. Simon is clearly out to Ayub and the rest of his friends, and Ayub immediately picks up on the fact that this is totally a date.
Blink and you miss it: Ayub nudges Simon with his elbow to tell him that he should make a move on Wilhelm.
Culture: What we're looking at is just the local junior/high school football team, Bjärstad, playing a match against some other unnamed junior football team. Since the stakes are super low, the audience basically consists of whichever parents and friends of the players that could be bothered showing up.
Culture: Driving age is 18 in Sweden, and even then getting your own car at that age is extremely uncommon. However, you can easily get a license for a moped when you turn 15, so these are the vehicles of choice for teenagers to get around.
Subtext: August found out about Wilhelm's trip to town, but his main problem with it is that he wants Wilhelm to stop slumming it with lower class people, and to start hanging out with everyone at school instead, so that he can be properly accultured into the upper class. Again, sosse in this context means working class, not socialist.
Subtext: Although Simon felt really great about his first date with Wilhelm, the text message reminds him that Wilhelm isn't a regular person, and that even this innocent little trip generates interest and scrutiny, and can't be posted publicly.
Tumblr media
Culture: As everyone should have noticed by now, Madison keeps speaking English, while everyone speaks to her in Swedish, so clearly she understands it. But here she gives her motivation for sticking to English, and that is that she doesn't feel she's good enough at speaking Swedish. Boarding schools like Hillerska attracts international students that have some kind of connection to the country, so a likely scenario is that Madison grew up in the US with a Swedish parent, and she's being sent here to experience Swedish culture and get immersed in the language to learn it better.
Cinematography: This shot of August drives really home all the pressure he is under, he's out of drugs, the headmistress just hinted that he's out of money, and he's literally being weighed down by books and work-out weights.
Subtext: Simon has kept his visits to Micke a secret from Sara, so here he has to intervene to make sure August doesn't accidentally reveal this to her. He also wants to protect his sister, so he's redirecting August's search for drugs onto himself.
Subtext: And on the flipside, Simon isn't really telling his dad that Sara still hates him and really doesn't want to see him, so he's vague when Micke asks about Sara and Linda.
Culture: Finally a bottle of medicine where we can read the label! Unfortunately for Simon, this is Tramadol, an opiate prescribed for pain relief, which is the complete opposite of the kind of drugs August wants.
Subtext: If you haven't figured out yet that this episode is about class journeys, August spells it out for us here. However, the reason he's "congratulating" Simon in front of everybody is because Simon just supplied him with more drugs, so this is his way of thanking him, since he can't really pay him.
Tumblr media
Blink and you miss it: For a split second, Wilhelm grabs Simon's leg during the scary scene.
Subtext: The entire dialogue of the movie works as subtext for what's actually going on between Wilhelm and Simon at this point, and Wilhelm is getting a little freaked out by this sneaky display of affection.
Subtext: The movie also puts words on the implications of Wilhelm getting together with a boy, what about having kids in the future? Can you carry on your family name and traditions, or will they die with you?
Lost in translation: The plaque actually says "FEEL YOUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE HERITAGE". Even though the plaque means the heritage and legacy of the school itself, Wilhelm is thinking about his legacy, his heritage, and how getting together with Simon would threaten that.
Lost in translation: Wilhelm actually says "jag är inte en..." - "I'm not a..." before he stops himself. So it's not possible that he was trying to say "I'm not gay", because that doesn't work grammatically in Swedish either. He could be trying to say "I'm not a guy like that" or "I'm not a guy who likes guys", that would work.
Cinematography: The framing and silhouetting of this shot is just chef's kiss. The outline of their hair allows us to see who is who, and we can see from their poses that Simon is welcoming a kiss, while Wilhelm is still hesitating.

you can sit here. I said sit.
When they want you to sit on their lap, and disobedience won’t be allowed.
Hellaurrr finally these are the pieces i struggled to finish. I’m disappointed in them because they took me so much time and concentration, and they’re not even good in the end... The reality of writing haha. I hope i can get better with time and effort. Chile. I’m happy cause some scenarios are creative but overall this is bad. Anywayyys I hope you’ll like what I wrote for your respective man, following this cliche but sexy trop :-)
(when i finished writing the first hanji one) A/N; YEs again an open ending but these are just my favorites !! Or maybe it’s an excuse I use unknowingly because I’d be too embarrassed to continue on with smut or whatever… Because yes, most of these stories end up steamy in my head, But I never write it out, it’s for you to imagine. Maybe one day I should actually try to finish up the scenario and write that damned smut ending haha. Anyways enjoy me writing for the first time someone other than lino !
Han; Location: Cinema
You were about a minute and 30 seconds late, nothing dramatic. Hopefully Han hadn’t arrived too early. You saw him standing next to the cinema entrance, looking around, maybe to find you. He was so endearing, his hat and jean jacket on, with this kinda lost look on his face. This uncertain expression changed when he saw you, leaving room for his pretty smile. You walked faster towards him.
“Hi ! How are you doing ?” “Just fine, thank you for asking. How about you princess?” You chuckled. “Very good too. I’m eager to watch the movie.”
Actually it wasn’t the movie itself you were excited about, it was spending about an hour and a half with Han Ji Sung aka probably the prettiest boy you knew, or the one person you couldn’t repress your feelings from. It’s like this jackass was a magnet, everyone seemed to love him, including you. With this ‘date’ as he called it, you knew you were falling into his trap, where he’d make you think you’re somehow special to him, when in reality he is currently playing about 6 persons at a time. But you couldn’t help it. Jisung was just not someone you said no to.
You started walking together in the building. “You want some popcorn baby girl?” “Mhm no I’m fine, that’s sweet thank you.” Why was this almost awkward… Maybe you should’ve stayed home. “You sure ? … At least I’ll get us drinks. What do you want ?” You got closer to him, and found the courage to hold on to his arm with your two hands. He smirked. After a pause he looked at you and said “Others can’t seem to make a move on me, like they're scared. Or at the contrary, they’re overly touchy. Could you be different Y/N ?” Here he goes again, lying to create a feeling of intimacy and uniqueness… Do you think he practices these sentences to be more convincing ? You fake laughed. But deep down, you were mad at yourself, because it actually made you feel somewhat good. Dumbass Ji Sung. “A Cherry Coke, please.”
With both your drinks in your hands, you started walking up the stairs, heading to the projection room. “The seats are not assigned, feel free to choose what you want”, said the staff as they scanned your tickets.
When you walked in the room, it was overwhelmingly empty. There was absolutely no one. Han laughed: “Well we do have a choice ! Where do you wanna sit, baby girl ?” “Mhmm” With no words you started guiding him, still wrapped up around his arm, walking up the stairway. You showed a row. “Here, now you choose the seats, I don’t care as long as we’re in this alley.” He took back the lead and stopped at seat 13. “Here.” He sat first and looked at you right in the eyes. “You can sit here.” He lightly tapped his lap but you brushed it off, it probably did not mean what you thought it did, so you broke eye contact and started sitting next to him, on seat 14. He  raised his hand and placed it behind your back, without touching you, stopping you from sitting. He looked at you without flinching and said with a light smirk: “I said sit here”, as he removed his hand from behind your back and placed it on his lap. Okay. It did mean what you thought. You got up and lightly laughed to yourself. Han Ji Sung…
You turned your back to the screen and looked at him in the eyes. And without breaking eye contact, sat down on his lap, sideways so you could stare at both the screen and his pretty face. “All this room but no seat is as appealing as this one” You said with a seductive smile, leaning towards him, your face being dangerously close to his. But you backed down at the last second and turned to the screen, smiling, proud of yourself for leaving Hanji the ace of hearts hanging like that. Yup, you do know how to make yourself desired.
Changbin; Location: Recording Studio
“Hey babe. Where are you ? I finished training, I think I’m ready to record. Mhm, Okay. I’m coming.” You hung up and collected your stuff, putting your gym bag across your shoulder. You tightened your ponytail and got going. It had been maybe two hours since you had been training alone to record your upcoming b-side ‘freeze’. You knew your parts and lyrics, you were just warming your voice up and practicing your tone. As you traveled from the practice room to the recording room, you couldn’t help but think about your… uhm… about ChangBin. What was even the relationship between the two of you ? The pet names you used on each other were a joke at first, but now it wasn’t ironic anymore. But you guys had never specified that you were anything else, anything more. You weren’t even sure what you felt for him. You pressed the elevator button. Now wasn’t the time to think about this… You looked at the lyrics again to clear your mind.
When you arrived in front of the door, you held back a second before entering, taking a deep breath. You knocked and entered immediately, not waiting for a response. As you stepped in, ChangBin turned back to look at you. “You were fast. I just need to get the mic ready.” “Oh I can do that” you offered your help while putting your bag down. From all this hanging out with ChangBin, you started to learn a bit about the studio and recording process. You headed towards the microphone setting, plugged some cables and readjusted the isolation. “Are you done ?” you asked ChangBin, looking at him, the headphones in your hands.  “Not really, I’m still fixing up the previous parts, layering everything so the mixing will be easier.” “Wait” You didn’t know how to do that. “Show me, I want to learn this.” “Sure, come”. He talked to you while looking at the  screen, a smile tracing his lips. You put the headset down and headed towards him. He was concentrating on the computer, the clicking sound of the mouse breaking the silence. “Uhm, babe ? Where do I put the stuff though ?” The chairs next to him were all cluttered by either his stuff, the member’s, or cables. “Oh that, don’t mind it, you can sit here.” Still looking right in front of him, he took one hand of the keyboard to put it on his thigh, essentially offering himself as a seat. You blushed, distraught. Usually, you were the one making the moves. “No it’s fine, I can put them aside, just tell me where”, you countered, starting to gather the mess. “I said sit.” ChangBin was still smiling at the screen, but he spoke firmly. He drew back from the desk, now looking at you, leaving you all the room for you to sit. He placed his hands on his hips, and waited for you to come with a smug expression. You shook off your hesitant face and relaxed, now smiling back at him. You hopped on his lap and let him place his hand on yours as you grabbed the mouse. “So teach’, how’s it done ?”
Bang Chan; Location: V-Live Set
When you walked in the room, you saw everyone gathered up in front of Jeongin’s phone. Him and Hyunjin were doing a V-Live and almost everyone was there, including your secret boyfriend, mister Channie. As soon as you opened the door everyone’s heads turned to you. You worded out the words “can I join the live?” silently to make sure you’d have their approval first. Everyone nodded. Lee Know complained “Y/N-ah why’d you interrupttt ?”, insisting on that last syllable. This was essentially your sign to come on camera. You stepped forward and entered the frame. You waved smiling. “Hi stays ! I hope you are all doing good. Can I join ?”
As Jeongin read the positive comments, you turned back and looked for a spot to chill. Hyunjin and Jeongin were on the floor, Lee Know on a chair and Bang Chan and Seungmin on the couch. So there was no place left. As you scanned the place with your eyes, you heard Chan whispering your name. You looked up and saw his hand on his lap, signing you to get closer. You looked at his face. He was impassive. You walked to him until you were near enough and you could hear what he told you. You leaned forward so your ear was near his mouth. “You can sit here.” You felt a pink blush rise in your cheeks. “But everyone will see and they will create rumors, I don’t even think JYP-nim will like i-” You hemmed and hawed, staring to shy away, furthering away from him. His laid-back attitude tensed up a bit. “I said sit here” He repeated firmly, staring right through your eyes. You froze for an instant, and getting annoyed, Bang Chan took the matters into his own hands. He grabbed your hips with his hands and spun you around. Disconcerted, you did not have time to react. In a continuous movement, he pulled you closer to him, until finally your knees hit his and you tumbled sitting on his lap. You were still pink and wide-eyed, but now sitting comfortably, your boyfriend’s hands around your waist. He placed his head on your shoulder. “Make sure to listen to me so I don’t have to repeat myself, love.”
In the meanwhile, nobody had heard or noticed anything, only Seugmin gave you a side-eye, smiling to himself. Hyunjin, Jeongin and Minho were still discussing loudly, and you stared at the camera, still embarrassed. Yeah… Hello stays…
[The next day tons of fan edits or whatever compilations went viral on internet. Fortunately no one was negative about it]
Seungmin; Location: Interview backstage
Seungmin never really had been a very PDA guy. He wasn’t against it, he was very proud of loving you actually, it just wasn't his thing. But today… Today was different. You were filming an interview, in which you were the host asking the questions to the 8 members. Since the beginning of the week you had been pissing your boyfriend off. The way others talked to you… The way you replied, like you were seducing them back… No, he couldn’t have it that way. You were his and only his. And he had to let everyone know that, including you.
Everyone was dressed in suits, even you. Your tight white shirt was a bit see-through and your black necktie was the second prettiest thing that could be around your neck (the first one being Seungmin’s hands). And Seungmin’s three piece suit…
“CUT !” The set director shouted. Everyone’s shoulders and smiles relaxed. “The break will last 15 minutes everyone, then we’ll shoot the conclusion”. You listened to the director until he finished speaking. “Man, I really need water, who’d know being a host made you so thirsty ?” Felix laughed. “I would’ve thought you always felt like this considering how much you talk.” “Tss”, you hissed and playfully smiled at him. Everyone got up and started talking, looking for water bottles, escaping the heat of the artificial lighting. You started erring, looking for an occupation until the break was over.
The group had switched spots. They were now sitting on the rest area, on multiple couches and chairs. Everyone being asked to leave the set so it could be tidied up and prepared for the last shots, you decided to go sit with the 8 boys. You walked closer to them, and after examining the seats, you noticed one next to HyunJin ; naturally, you headed towards him. But as you walked past the other boys, you felt a hand stopping you from going further. SeungMin's hand was discreetly placed on your lower thigh.
“Looking for a seat, babe ?” He looked at you, his head raised to see your face. His fake smile made you think twice before answering. “Well yes, but not anymore, there’s one rig-” “You can sit here.” SeungMin interrupted. He did not remove his hand nor break eye contact. His words spoke for themselves. You lowered your head and spoke more quietly, looking at the floor. “No it's really fine thank you. And you need to rest for-” “You misunderstood. I said sit.”  SeungMin now gripped your thigh. His soft hands could be so rough when he decided it. “Yes okay”.
You sat, head still low, scared and embarrassed. Nobody disobeys Kim SeungMin’s orders, not even his princess. He rubbed his hand on your hips, tracing circles through your black pants and whispered to your ears:“good girl”. Maybe you should make him jealous more often.
HyunJin; Location: Stray Kids’s van
As you were waiting in the parking lot, you finally saw the team, your eights stars included, arrive. It was pretty cold and the only way you had passed the time was playing with your cold, condensed breath. “Finally”, you whispered to yourself. As their relatively loud cheering got closer, you pushed yourself from the wall you were leaning on and walked towards them too.
“Oh hi Y/N !” merily shouted Han, now only a few meters apart. You smiled softly, tired. “Hi guys, hello everyone” you replied while greeting everybody with a wave. You continued: “Had a nice day?” “Yes yes, thank you for asking. You look tired, let’s go back quickly to the dorm” HyunJin stared at you in the eyes, impassive yet friendly. He got closer to you and you began walking again, side to side. “No I’m pretty fine actually. Maybe you guys want to eat something outside before ?” “Mhm…” Your inquiry raised wonder. “I don’t know actually…” Every member looked at each other or at the ground, looking for an answer. “You know what, I think it’s a good idea.” Bang Chan had taken the matter into his hands. “Great, well, where shall we go ?” You asked. You quickly followed up: “And how?” I know you guys came with the van but I-” “You can come in the van too, that’s not a problem.” “But you’re right, where should we go ? …” Felix had interrupted HyunJin, pensive. While he was thinking over all the good places he had already eaten at, Hyunjin repeated: “Yes you can come, the staff is going home anyways, their shift is finished now.” He didn’t look at you “Great, that’s nice, thanks” “Hm”.
As Bang Chan talked it out with the staff, the group arrived at the car. “Right. He came back to you with an answer: They said it’s all cool but also that they think it’s better to let us off with no chauffeur, since we’re going out as friends and they need to go home too. So we are taking this van.” He pointed one out of the two vans parked side to side. “Okay”, everybody replied. You were the last one to move, and you took the last chance to enjoy the coldness of outside to see your breath. You watched everyone get in the car, Chan in the driver’s seat, jeongin lee know and changbin in the back, han and lixie in the middle row, and lino in the front row. Hyunjin was next to him. You got closer to the car. “Oh… So this is a eight-seats car… What should we do ?” You said indifferently, still hesitating. “You can sit here” Hyunjin looked at you straight in the eyes, still showing no emotion. You looked at him puzzled, until you lowered your gaze. He had put his hands on the seat, next to his laps he seemed to have hinted at. Nothing really explicitly suggested he wanted you to sit on his lap, after all he didn’t say anything, he didn’t guide your sight, his hands were annoyingly innocent. You looked up back again. He was still staring. So you searched for help with the other boys. Minho was looking out the window, not paying attention to you, but you swore you heard him say something along the lines of “well you might just as well sit on the babe’s lap since you want it so much”. Or maybe it was your mind playing tricks again… Maybe it was what you wanted to hear. No one bothered to look at you, you were alone for this one.
“Hurry up, we need to go, you’re making us lose time. Stop being troublesome. I said sit.” HyunJin confidently spat this out to you, but no one really paid attention. You looked down, flustered. Why make it look so, easy ? You acquiesced, getting in the car and laying your hands on his, while sitting on his thighs. He bluntly took one off from under your grasp, but only to tie it around your waist. Of course, it was the opposite hand from MinHo, because he wouldn’t want that prick to make any comment, or even give any look.
During the whole ride, he didn’t speak any word, nor did he move a bit. The tension though, was almost enjoyable. and it was a comfortable seat after all.
JeongIn; Location: Stray Kids’s dorm
“JeongIn-aaah?” You shouted at JeongIn from his bedroom. Since they had moved dorms, you started staying even more at his place. And now that every member had individual rooms, you felt less like a bother when you were ‘visiting’ him, which was essentially spending every second you guys could together. You did nothing but chill in your best friend’s bed, laying staring at the ceiling, not even talking to each other. Your relationship with him was this close, where you’d rather do nothing with him than do nothing alone.
This evening was a classic evening that you had probably experienced a thousand times now. You were reading a book on the floor of his bedroom while he was away drinking some water. Lino was out too so they started talking. You couldn’t hear what they said but you knew it was small talk, that’s why you didn’t bother to interrupt. “JeongIn-ah -you insisted-, I’m bored what should we doo ?” “Well I’m gonna play video-games now but you do what you want!” Jeongin had replied equally as loud as you. “Mhm”. This time you had spoken to yourself. You put your bookmark-of-a-photocard back in your novel and closed it, leaving it on the floor. You stood up without a word, not feeling the need to warn i.n. that you were joining him. You lazily opened the door and closed it back behind you. You saw Minho in the living room and after greeting him, you looked around for your best friend. As Lino left the room to go back in his, you finally spotted i.n.
He was on the floor, cross-legged in front of the TV, a controller in his hands. “So you wanna play?” “Yes, I mean it depends what you’ll choose actually. I don’t really know how to play every game you have.” “It’s fine I’ll teach you anyways. While I choose, come, you can sit here.” He said that while still changing some settings, focused on the screen, relaxed. Why’d he say ‘here’ though ? He didn’t hint at anywhere in particular. Having no precise instructions, you started lying next to him. “No. I said sit here.” JeongIn’s contradiction froze you, not out of fear but confusion. “Huh, where?” you thought to yourself. You stopped midway and stood back up, looking at him. “I said I’ll teach you, so we need to be in the right conditions. Come here.” He gestured to you with his hands to come closer. Still confused, you did. He placed his hands on your waist -one still holding the controller so you felt it on your hip-, pulling you down. He sat you on his lap,  placing his hands in front of you like he was hugging you, holding the controller. You were still confused, and after a time -seconds- of realization, you started blushing like crazy. He was your best friend so why’d you feel like this ?! It’s a normal thing to do right… ?
You tried to chill out, and you gathered up the courage to, oof, place your hands on his, holding the controller together: “Okay genius, show me.”
Felix; Location: The Beach
The wind blew a little colder. Your hair went everywhere and your face, and the saltiness made it stick. You carefully put the flying strands behind your ears and carried on with your walk. The sun was slowly going down, painting a delicate tangerine sky. You walked, following the rhythm of the waves, back to the group, with in hand the popsicles you had promised to get. Lime and mango for your friends because they’re basics, yogurt for yourself, and strawberry, for him, because you knew it was his favorite. How long had it lasted until today ? I mean, this ‘chase’ or rather one-sided-race. You had been low-key crushing on Lee Yong-bok for, quite a while now, or at least for longer than you wish you had. Today was one of the many, many moves you had tried to make on him now. Honestly, you had more often than not things going your way -I mean with crushes- so this unusual resistance was frustrating and almost, annoying. Was he blind ? Or did he do it on purpose, to play with you ? So you’d understand what failure is ? Or just because he enjoys the wait that much ? … Today, was the day you’d give up after if nothing concluded. That’s what you told yourself this morning, while putting on your swimsuit for this friendly hang-out at the beach. Friends or rather, a couple and Felix and you. Could've been a double-date, but it wasn’t, because this stupid boy was too dense,,, ugh. It didn’t stop you from liking him though.
“I’m baaack, with the merchandise”, you said while lifting the white plastic bag, showing it to your friends like it was a trophy. “Aaah thank you ! The mood is perfect for this, what a great way to end the day.” Your friend thanked. “My pleasure”. You opened the bag and gave everyone their ice cream, pretending you chose them randomly -well you did, just not his- and Yong-bok, by chance, got the strawberry one. “Well that’s the advantage of having basic taste”, joked the latter. Like it wasn’t from your meticulous, attentionate, planning. Whatever. “Yeah there wasn’t much choice so I grabbed a flavor I thought would please everyone…” You said, almost sour, while you were opening your sherbet, like everyone else. You were pulling on the plastic. “I figu- Fuck.” Everybody turned their head to look at you. In a moment of inattention, you tore the wrapping too brusquely, and yanked the lolli in the sand… Great… “God… I’m so stupid…” You uttered, staring in disbelief, and regret, and the cadaver covered in sand.
“Yes, yes you are” Yong-Bok said, amused. You weren’t sure if he was mocking you or this was just innocent, but he immediately followed up: “It’s fine, we can share. I’m not gonna leave you starving like that.” He ended with a soft, sincere smile. Wha-whattt ? Sharing, an ice cream ? I mean, yeah, you liked sharing, and you didn’t mind the unsanitariness of it, but the connotation ? … Although… On the other hand, it would be your chance after all… So you quickly replied.
“That’s so sweet, thank you so much for offering ! I’d love to actually, ‘cause yeah it is the perfect mood indeed.” Felix gladly accepted your reply. Like he wasn’t disappointed. You know, some people offer just to be polite and nice. But he seemed delighted to be able to help and share. “Cool. Come, you can sit here”. Below you on the sand, Lixie was seated on a towel. He patted the sand. With a hearty chuckle, you started bending down, besides him, on the sand.
“Oh, you misunderstood. I said sit.” Still affectionately, he stopped you, placing his sorbet-free hand on your thigh while you were still semi-standing. He brushed it lightly while he took it off to place it on his thigh, indicating to you to sit there. So now he was making the moves ?! Tss, what a perky boy.. I love it. You shook off your surprise to adopt your usual smug face again, and comfortably sat on his lap, facing him sideways so you could, you know, lick the ice cream more easily.
Minho; Location: His Hotel Room
Zzp. You closed up the flier as best as you could, struggling to reach the back of your red dress. Tonight was a special night, because you got to spend it with Minho, finally. He’d been so busy these days, you barely saw him. You walked over to your hairdresser, opening the first drawer and taking out a porcelain round box. You slipped your fingers on the golden lining before opening it, revealing a necklace or rather, a chain, a golden chain. You took it in your hand and pinched it with two fingers only as it unraveled before you. It was beautiful, of course, delicately chosen by none other than him. As you held it with one hand, you closed and put everything back to place, closing the drawer. You started lifting it up your neck, trying to find the clasp with your fingers, but you quickly realized it was too small for you to do it  by yourself. You raised your head back to the mirror, looking at yourself as you decided to go ask for help in the living room.
You left the bedroom, the necklace in your hands, only to find Minho on the couch, putting on his shoes. He lifted his head to look at you: “Are you ready ?” “Not quite. Please help me, I need to put this necklace on.” “I’ll do it. It has been a while indeed. I’m disappointed, you don’t seem to like my gift. Or perhaps you dislike wearing something that I like.” You kept quiet, only lowering your eyes. “Come, I’ll put it on for you”, Minho offered, nonchalantly. “Yes.” You stayed obedient. “You can sit here”. With your head still low, you did not see where he signed his ‘here’ to be, so you assumed he had told you to sit next to him.
Hands still together on your lower stomach, you walked carefully to the couch, sitting to his right, your back facing him. “You never listen. I’m done spending time with someone as stupid as you.” Minho’s angry voice froze your blood. You tensed up, but as you started apologizing, Minho continued. “I said sit.” You felt his arm raising and getting closer to your face, only making you close your eyes hard, fearful, your shoulders raising to protect your neck. Minho’s hand finally reached your cheeks, violently grabbing them and moving your head, forcing you to look at him. You opened your eyes because you knew he wouldn’t like you avoiding his. Head still low, you were about to look up at his face when you saw his hand on his lap. His fingers folded, indicating you to come closer. You immediately understood what he was expecting of you, and you complied, executing yourself. You got up, freeing yourself from his firm grip, and placed yourself on his thighs, gathering your hair with your hands, quietly gulping, scared of his reaction. “Good girl”. You felt once again his hand on your neck, as he tied your necklace close. “Thank you, master.”

heeseung
you were meeting his friends for the first time and let's just say that things weren't going the way you expected them to. they were all nice to you, very welcoming and kind. but there was this one inferior female, sitting right across from heeseung, blatantly flirting with him as if he hadn't just introduced you - aka his girlfriend - to her. the worst part about it was the fact that he was acting completely clueless. you knew he was just trying to be nice to her - she was his friend after all. but you didn't get why he allowed the conversation to keep going, especially when it was becoming so straightforward. so you decided to knock some sense into your partner. your hand found his thigh, giving it a harsh squeeze. heeseung looked at you, slightly puzzled. you only smiled at him, trailing your hand further up his thigh until it came dangerously close to his crotch. that's when his eyes widened. he moved back a little, holding your wrist tightly. you leaned towards him, bringing your lips to his ear, asking him if he would like you to keeping going. of course he shook his head. if his friends caught you then they wouldn't stop teasing him for days. so you told him to keep her in check. heeseung understood what you meant and changed the topic immediately. but just because he did as you wished, that didn't mean you were done teasing him.
jay
you guys were at a party and everything was going great. keep in mind that this wasn't some college frat party like in the drunk-dazed mv. it was more of a formal gathering to celebrate some rich old man's success. you stood by the bar, watching jay speak to some people he knew from afar. he was wearing a suit and had his hair styles all fancy. to sum it up he looked very hot. you being you weren't able to keep it in your pants. especially not when your boyfriend was out here looking like a full course meal. once he was alone, you sauntered over to him, wrapping your arms around his neck. jay was a bit taken aback with the intense pda. he asked you what's up and that's when you in turn asked him if you could sneak off to the bathroom together. of course the dutiful and responsible jay disagrees and asks you to just wait till you get home. but you aren't satisfied with that so you decide to give him some incentive. you whisper in his ear, telling him all the dirty things you want to do with him. his face heats up and he looks around cautiously making sure no one heard you. he won't lie, your words are certainly having an effect on him. he can clearly imagine each and every thing you're saying. the scenes that play in his mind are just too much to bare. so before he goes crazy, he takes your hand and flees the scene, throwing you in the back seat to take care of you.
jake
you guys were at the library, reading your favourite books because jake couldn't think of anything better to do for date night. instead of sitting at the tables or couches, you both were lounging on the floor in the farthest row of the library. you gave up on reading the book in your hands, finding it a bit boring. actually, you were finding the date quite boring. any other day, you would have loved spending time with jake at the library but today you were in the mood for something more thrilling. so you got on jake's lap and pushed his back against the shelf. he didn't really pay attention to you, much to your dismay. so you leaned forward and pretended to reach for a book above his head, thereby shoving your boobs in his face. he let out a muffled groan, sending a wave of ticklish vibrations through your body. "what are you doing," he asked when you finally let him breathe? there was a mischievous grin on your face. you shrugged nonchalantly. jake scoffed. "stop humping me. i don't wanna get kicked out," he said. you ignored his warning and continued grinding over him, knowing he liked the sensation. jake only held your hips, refraining from protesting any further. his hand went straight up your shirt and reached back to unhook your bra. he smirked at you cheekily. "two can play this game love."
sunghoon
the cliche car ride scenario where there aren't any seats left so you've got no choice but to sit on his lap. sunghoon had his arms wrapped around your waist, hands resting in your lap. he was comfortable and relaxed. but then you started being an ass and squirming about like a lunatic. the road wasn't bumpy and you didn't have to pee so he knew you were doing it on purpose. he told you to stop but you didn't. all he could do was shove his face in your back and pray to god that he wouldn't pop a boner. you didn't make it any easier for him. you loved teasing him, especially in situations like these where he couldn't act on it cause there were other people around. his knuckles had turned white cause of how tight he was squeezing your thighs in an attempt to keep you grounded. but it didn't work and this boy pulled you into the first bathroom he saw after getting out of the car to make you suck him off so he wouldn't have to walk around with a tent in his pants like a pervert. let's just say he was super pissy afterwards, gave you the silent treatment and all. you made him upset dumbass.

pair: jaehyun x fem!reader
word count: 7.7k+
summary: as the uni campus’ social butterfly, it’s a given you have a lot of friends, invited to almost all gatherings and all adore you. for the latter, jaehyun does too. he’s so into you and likes how you’re his happy place. or; jaehyun— an unsocial, often misunderstood person, finds his behaviour different with you and perhaps wants to keep you for himself, not anyone else.
genre: fluff + elite!au
a/n: i’m back after a while since i’ve been so so busy! this is not proofread again and i’m sorry if there are any grammar mistakes down there :> this is not canon with “letting go” scenario in case there’s any similarities with the characters. hehe anyway i hope you all enjoy reading! ♡ ~j.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
seated at the front row in the amphitheatre-shaped lecture hall, jaehyun frustratingly put his hood back on to hide himself from those who were staring from all around. they were definitely whispering about him, hands by their lips to conceal their voices in case he heard them. he hated this much attention, all because he chose stay of out school and classes— and claimed that it didn’t interest him.
so did coming today.
but the point was his attendance for this class was on the line and his busybody parents were sick of receiving phone calls or mails that kept filling their boxes, all for the same reason; that their son could be expelled despite handing assignments.
he rolled his eyes at the heat creeping up his ears as the whispers grew louder. he slammed the thin granite table, causing everyone to flinch at the sound and his presence. “can i have some quiet?! i can hear you guys talking crap about me!” he turned around at the pairs of eyes, soon frozen like meerkats.
they ticked him off. he couldn’t stand being in the same room with people who repeatedly questioned his existence of being here. he knew that rumours were going around, that the ‘jeong jaehyun’ in high school got into an private elite university— it could be anywhere but never expected it‘d be this campus. it was written in the judgment of their faces.
“chill man,” a guy his age swung his lollipop with legs on the desk. “some are curious why you decided to show up today since first semester’s a week away from ending, while some even wonder why you got into such prestigious and elite university.”
jaehyun’s eyed him slowly from legs to head. “who are you supposed to be?” he snorted at the stranger.
“just a guy who wants to break the distraught you’re trying to start.” he kicked his legs off the desk and stood up on his suede shoes, showing off his pearly whites.
he looked at everyone whose eyes averted from the two of them. “our town’s a small neighbourhood, so everybody knows everybody. we know exactly who you are, jeong jaehyun.”
“excuse me?” he swirled his tongue that it was evident he was pissed. “careful what you accuse me of. you and i both know it’s not going to end well-”
“they’re near they’re near!” a voice echoed the hall, cutting jaehyun’s attempt to intimidate the young man any further.
and with that signal alone, jaehyun could see and observe ladies fixing their hair and make-up, while the guys gave fistbumps to those near them. he rolled his eyes at him returning the favour to them as the guy unbuttoned his collar. “what’s wrong with you?” jaehyun was utterly weirded out. “with everyone?”
the crimson-haired guy only gave a flirty grin with raised brows. “this happens everytime.“
the door swung open with the professor rushing in. the students swifted heads, it wasn’t the first time he ever was late. he was young and good-looking, and it was hard to believe he still a bachelor. he gestured someone at the door, then the held-in giggles and mumbles were soon replaced with whispers of awe, as you walked in carefully with a tower of binder folders halfly covering your view.
clearly the guys around him have been secretly admiring; some had the confidence of taking selfies even if you were far, while others took a picture with their eyes so you were marked in their memories. ladies flocked towards the flustered professor like little chicks and surrounded him.
and that’s when the comments started coming in.
“park seojoon is so hot.” “hey remember to use ‘professor’.” “i guess genes runs in the family.” “his sister is ethereal too.” “i see her weekly and y/n’s a goddess.” “y/n! are you coming to the party tonight?”
jaehyun knew who you were through social media and common friends. and he included himself part of the people who admire you. he also remembered because he bumped into you during orientation. he wouldn’t usually care about passerby’s and strangers and although that was a brief moment and short eye contact, something about you was hard to not forget. you had people and friends under a charming spell he couldn’t describe, and that was in a good way.
you tucked a strand behind your ear and became shy afterwards as they whistled and cheered towards your gesture, making you heat up a thousand degrees higher. you should be used to this but every time it happens, you were just as flustered as your brother.
jaehyun’s legs got up on its own and was surprised at himself for making his way to help you. he picked up the fallen binder files and scattered papers while the whiskers by your eyes creased up in shyness.
he hitched a breath realising that the clumsy you was adorable too.
“thank you.” a smile then appearing at the corners of your lips caused jaehyun to freeze for a while. yuta wouldn’t miss anyone’s reaction. he slid his chair close to jaehyun’s as the he came back, nudging his chair for him to give into your beauty.
“i know a person with heart eyes when i see one. now you understand why we’re whipped for y/n. isn’t she a babe- agh.” he held the back of his head from the smack.
“don’t call me that, nakamoto.” you hissed sharply with how confident and careless he could get, especially with people you weren’t familiar with. you looked at the guy in a black sweater and let out an embarrassed sigh. “i’m sorry about my annoying best friend. yuta tends to be chatty when he feels lonely.” you winked at him.
it was jaehyun’s turn to flash short chuckle, its faint sounds perked not only your ears, but yuta’s as well. “not a problem. i know a lonely person when i see one.” jaehyun emphasised through his gaze.
“i’m not lonely! i have y/n and my men!” he whined and turned towards you. “see what you did y/n?”
“it’s good to finally see you, jeong jaehyun.” you ignored yuta and brought out a hand for a greeting.
you pursed your lips to stifle a laugh, jaehyun’s ears quickly turned from pink to red. he gulped loudly and took your hand in his, eyebrows lifting at how you knew his name.
lost for words and you both locked eyes where he forgot to let your hands go. “we take the same course together? i know your name because you’re the only one missing from the class-” you said, shaking his hands to subtly let him know it had been a minute since your hands felt his vainey flesh.
“okay young lad that’s enough time holding my sister.” seojoon separated your hands and jaehyun snapped out of his admiration, inhaling quite stressfully with how stupid he looked. “get to your class y/n.”
“alright, i’ll see you at tea hour.” you waved at the boys.
“as long as you’re treating i’ll go.” yuta hummed in a monotonous voice, fixing his laces that went untied.
“i’m not talking to you dimwit.” you flicked his forehead, leading to your satisfaction of the nut-like sound from it. “jaehyun, because you missed yesterday’s class, prof assigned me to assist you, along with the other topics you’ve yet to cover. i’ll be expecting you at the café near campus.”
before you stepped out of the hall, yuta pulled your sweater, yanking you back. “are you going to taeyong’s party tonight? you never miss an event!”
you puckered your lips, pinching his cheeks that a cute gummy smile came out from it. “you know my rules. as long as you’re driving me home, i’ll go. see you later.”
jaehyun nodded yet was still in a daze. he realised what you said when yuta pushed him. “gross. don’t act as if we’re already close.”
“hm? was i really? i think it’s normal when you’re making a move on my best friend.” he brought out his laptop and typed his password.
i wasn’t. “whatever.”
and to say that jaehyun didn’t feel butterflies flying uncontrollably in his stomach would be an understatement. they made the intestine churn in ways he couldn’t imagine, and he himself wanted to deny that what he was feeling was just from the influence of others. but wouldn’t that mean his feelings were temporary? because if it were, he should perceive you an ordinary person.
yet here he was outside, still admiring you before he entered the café. he found it was amusing of how oblivious you were of his presence— you were too immersed into this assigned task by professor, but others found it funnier when jaehyun looked stupidly in-love and cowardly the lad looked, despite having the overall aura of a stuck-up.
as the sun’s rays brightened the city and the wind’s breeze made the trees leaves dance, only then had you raise your head to see jaehyun waving at you. ten minutes early, not bad for an actual first impression. “hey,” he greeted, making you smile with his low but gentle voice. “am i late?”
you took your bag from across and asked him to sit down. “no no. you’re just in time, it’s really nice to have an early bird around.”
his dimples deepened at the compliment. “how about the project? is it too late? you think i can still catch up?” jaehyun cleared his throat.
“that depends on your dedication. based on the record professor gets, you’ve been doing your tasks and homework quite diligently. he’s just worried about your habit of not attending his lectures might lead to procrastination when second semester starts.” you gave him a slice of cheesecake to eat. “he’s still teaching us another subject.”
“it’s quite the contrary.” he dove in for the dessert. “i don’t have the will to procrastinate at all.”
“then good.” you twisted the pen in your fingers. “let’s get started?”
for that span of two hours, how he wished it could be more. who knew you would have a lot of things in common with him? that time alone was not enough to talk about vinyl and jazz singers and pretty much everything that were overlooked by people. he brought up his favourite spots in the city and how they became a safe haven to escape the reality.
to cut the explaining short, his shell slowly started to open, bits and new things were showing. if you were surprised he was a good person, jaehyun himself couldn’t believe he was able to converse with people normally. being the awkward and shy type, doing this almost seemed impossible.
was it your magic that caused him to do so?
you learnt that jaehyun was rather special and by special it meant he had gifts that you believed were way beyond human limits. he never studied in a library, rewatched lectures or written his notes. and the professor mentioned how jaehyun received good grades in most of the things he submitted.
to be very honest, you were a little jealous. from how he was sitting in front of you, he didn’t seem to be interested but was definitely listening. and you sort of gave up in continuing anyway. “i don’t understand why i’m told i need to guide you when you’ve already caught up with everything.” you let out a soft chuckle that seemed more of a question.
“i was waiting for you to stop..” jaehyun said quite blatantly and stretched his arms and you were hurt because if he didn’t want to, he could’ve said so. heck, even more so, he shouldn’t have come here and wasted time-
“..because it looked like you were forced to do this by prof.” his smile then faded seeing you mirror the same. “are you alright? you’re a little pale..”
your eyes widened. “oh uh, sorry, i assumed-” you sputtered and probably died inside with what he said. you cursed in your mind. dammit y/n.
jaehyun raised his brows, making you more flustered and panicky. you sighed and waved your ‘its-nothing’ hand. “assumed that i’m brusque and a stuck-up?”
he pierced his eyes at you and you weren’t going to lie, he scared you a bit. but that fear immediately disappeared when a gentle giggle and adorable dimples replaced it. “i get that a lot, but don’t worry. i’m different from what people think. they think i’m not friendly, a-and a loner too.”
“you’re not.” he heard you counter him, slightly slamming the fork down. “if you were, you wouldn’t be here with me. or even bothered to come.”
his heart became warm through your words, that act of kindness torn down his walls of inferiority and his perception towards people changed. “thanks.” he checked the time on his watch and twisted his wrist to show to you. “don’t you have a party to attend to?”
“lee taeyong’s?” you stood up to leave the café. “i feel like skipping it for tonight. i’m not in the mood for parties somehow.”
“because i’m a better company for you?” jaehyun teased and boy was he proud with his remark, you didn’t even deny it. “you don’t have to go if you really don’t want to. it’s better to have time for yourself sometimes.”
“you’re saying from experience?” you asked, putting pressure on your words about his claim of being alone.
“it’s more of an advice for you.” he winked.
you thought he was quite observant even though he barely socialised with others. he noticed the light in your eyes sparkling, in which he felt his chest squeeze. you twirled in your toes as you hugged your laptop. “say.. are you up for a movie marathon?”
including now, it’d be the fourth time you both have rewind the specific scene just for that certain song jaehyun kept singing nonstop. and although you loved his voice, having the song on replay would be a little too much and the purpose of the marathon might go in vain. it seemed jaehyun was way into it, so interrupting him would be mean of you so you sang along.
“the nostalgia still hits me ‘til this day.” jaehyun tossed a bag of chips from your kitchen island to you.
jaehyun kept saying it may sound stupid and corny coming from him, but as a child he liked the whole high school musical series; and he pretty much became one when breaking free started to play.
because you both couldn’t decide where to watch the beloved movies by everyone, the marathon ended up being at your apartment. it was subtle, yet quite obvious to you he didn’t want it to be held in his place. you thanked your psychology course for giving lessons to notice even the little things in behaviour.
“how many times do i have to keep telling you it’s okay to like it? not like anyone would tease you for it.” you giggled as you opened the bag and popped a couple of chips into your mouth.
“yeah sure, but i know you would.” he squinted his eyes for you to admit that that was your plan eventually.
“have i?” you singsonged, sipping on the large cola cup.
he pointed at the hairbrush you held and suddenly you bursted out in laughter since jaehyun was obviously— maybe a little— offended with how you mimicked him singing earlier. “okay you caught me.”
jaehyun felt his entire body heating up. still in denial about actually being into you, he took a challenge upon himself and scooted next to you. his arms slightly brushed and touched against yours. “you in for hsm 2?”
“well we are having a marathon, might as well go for camp rock later.” you shrugged and eyed him with a confirming gaze.
“uh-huh.. but i’m still a fan of the trilogy.” jaehyun stole the chips in your hands.
“now aren’t you cheeky.” you gasped at his playful behaviour, and you didn’t dislike it. perhaps you prefer this naught over yuta’s as it didn’t get into your nerves or have the urge to hit him because of the hyperness.
he sat deeper into the beanbag. “i’m comfortable in here. your house feels too homey.”
“so is it my fault that you’re in your comfort zone?” you stated, taking the bag of chips back into your arms.
“yes.” he protested with frequent waves of his palms. “you’re too kind and i might come here to visit often.”
“suit yourself.”
since he arrived here it had him wondering, why did he decide to show up today at campus when there was actually a pure human being like you? he just needed a person— just one— to knock onto his heart. yet with many people in his life trying to do the same thing, none held the correct key. and somehow,
it had to be you.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
you’ve lost count of the number of times jaehyun has been hanging at your crib since then. it became a normal routine but never have you been to his place. it was always yours and you didn’t mind that. though he did promise, you respected his decision.
you found out he could be little dorky and corny but that was the unique trait about him. like friends at kindergarten, you both were still at a get-to-know-each-other stage. so that day, he created a schedule where he would hang out with you on wednesdays and fridays, claiming that he didn’t want to be seen by others, e.g. mr. nobody with ms. golden girl.
however, since then, people close to you have been looking at you rather differently. it wasn’t because they sometimes see jaehyun following you around, they sensed a different aura from you. you could feel their piercing stares from all directions, as if you were the centerpiece of a watch. there was something a little different than usual.
and you tried to ignore this ominous feeling for now.
yuta shook his legs vigorously, in which was an unsightly act to see for someone on the soccer team. you could see him from afar with his hands by his lips, biting it as he waited for your arrival at the university’s sports ground. jaehyun jogged towards you with his bag slung diagonally across his torso. he poked your neck and as a person with severe tickle spots, that caught you off guard into a fight-me position to the doer.
“chill, it’s just me.” jaehyun had both of his hands up, whiskers appearing just by the sides of his nose.
“jaehyun!” you relaxed your limbs. “got a better way of greeting? i don’t like being surprised.” you pulled the hem of his sleeve, missing how he pursed his lips in glee when you both instantly became close, like it was overnight.
he let you grab him as you both walked towards where yuta was standing by the bleachers. “i’m sorry?” he giggled loud enough only for you to hear. “i thought i’d get a priceless reaction from you.”
you rolled your eyes that it almost hurt doing so. “be glad i have enough patience for you.”
“and i didn’t have enough patience last night!” yuta joined the conversation seeing you and jaehyun before him. “where have you been? you said you were coming to my place yesterda- why is he here?” he looked at him then at you. “with you? again?”
“ever thought that i want to have my own ‘me’ time for once?” you took off your cardigan and placed it on the bleachers. you could feel jaehyun chuckling softly when you made reference to his remark.
and boy was he proud. “you’re emphasising on that quite often nowadays.” he helped you carry your bag as you to settled down.
“that’s because i never realised how true it actually is until i say it out loud, since being in everyone’s eyes does pressure me.” you balled your fists to nudge him lightly on the arm, and for him to dramatically receive the attack did put yuta in an awkward position.
“uh hello? i’m still here!” in front of you and jaehyun, yuta snapped his fingers several times to divert attention. “what’s going on with you two? how are you both suddenly so close when you’ve just met for the first time two weeks ago?”
jaehyun swifted his head towards you, and the telepathic exchange of words between you and him had yuta clicking his tongue in disbelief. “you were right, he will react.” jaehyun’s voice prolonged while munching on a corn dog.
“told you so.” you flicked your hair and turned to yuta as you continued talking. “bestie, we’ve been seeing each other since then.”
what the hell? the way yuta’s face turn sour at your smile towards jaehyun, he could almost faint right then and there since he swore he saw mr. dimples smile subtly at you too. “and with just that i’ve been replaced-”
“no i would never replace my best friend.” you held his palms hoping he would calm down from his high emotions, but he immediately pulled his hand away from you, much to your dismay. “hey, i’m here to make amends-”
“yeah?” he clicked on a pen and wrote something on a tissue, soon grabbing your bag from the seat and fished out your wallet. “then you’re treating me my meals for a month. i have another order right now.”
now it was your turn whose face became sour. “a month?! i can’t do that- hey!”
yuta tossed your credit card up in the air and upon seeing his eyes darken— though that was all in your head—you gave in and sighed heavily. you stomped your way to the caféteria while yuta comfortably put one leg on the benches with a satisfied grin. “man she’s easy to tease.”
“is that so? then i know now who she gets it from.” jaehyun said through his chews on his food, making yuta’s ears perk up at the response.
the atmosphere lingering between the two of them invited dark clouds. both could sense the change in their moods, and they both weren’t liking it.
yuta spun and played the ball on his hands then forearms, later let out a scoff when jaehyun raised his brows. he didn’t like the vibe jaehyun was giving and so did the latter. “i do it for fun. it’s natural between us.” yuta said.
“hm? she told me she doesn’t like it when you do.” he saw you on your tiptoes as you struggled to tell the order to the person at the high-levelled counter. but another scoff came out from yuta. “you got a proble-?”
“yeah kinda.”
“i don’t think so. i can tell it really bothers you when y/n hangs out with me.” jaehyun sat up straight at yuta’s comment about him.
“i should be. because i’m her best friend and who knows what type of person you are.” he did a few tricks with his legs. “but if you really want to know then your attitude is what i have problems with.”
“i remember telling you it wouldn’t be good for you when accuse me wrongly.”
he let out a monotonous and rather mocking laugh, taking jaehyun aback but he anticipated this kind of response from him. “and what? you’ll go berserk like you did years ago? as a high school freshman? beating the innocent up or whoever comes your way?”
“look i don’t know where the hell that came from but it’s not what you or everyone else thinks.” jaehyun aggressively crumpled the hotdog wrapper in his palms.
“c’mon you don’t have to hold it all in,” yuta set his ball aside and rested his hands on his waist. jaehyun was getting uncomfortable the more he listened to him. “unleash that side-”
jaehyun rolled his tongue, nodding his head to test him. “alright, i guess i don’t have to when i have feelings for y/n. thanks for the advice.”
what the..? yuta stared at him when there wasn’t a change in his expression. jerk- “now you’re talking. you wanna fight? let’s do that-”
“tsk yuta! the bill’s too expensive!” you whined and gently put down the tray.
while yuta clicked his tongue at your sudden entry and with how quickly you came back, for a moment jaehyun wanted to hug you for being his saviour. he was so close to lose his temper towards your best friend. the relief seen in his tensed shoulders, but you interpreted it otherwise. “are you okay?” you asked while you sat down beside him.
he hummed, folding his arms and looking at the distance, clearly avoiding eye contact with yuta. “mhm, i just realised the deadline is coming up in three days.” he excused.
you managed to utter out a giggle as you finally ate, finding out how jaehyun’s ears always turned red when given attention to. “you’re stressed about it?”
“aren’t you?” jaehyun drank the remains of his soda.
“not really since i finished mine. but, if you’re worried about your progress, i can help you.” you swirled the fork in the air like a wand. jaehyun smiled to himself when yuta took his ball to throw a fit.
“i’m not worried about the project. but there’s an annoying bug i’m trying to hit so help me.” jaehyun’s dimples appeared deeply again and as the darkening ombré sunset shoned his side profile, there you witnessed how pure he actually was— and you missed out on yuta’s frown towards jaehyun.
you gulped and almost choked on your own saliva, eyes still locked in jaehyun’s. his hair caught in the wind, making it look fluffy and his entire demeanour softer than you usually see him. you hitched a breath since jaehyun seemed like he had no plans to avert his gaze too. both of you were definely mesmerised and hypnotised, and for jaehyun it was just like that time. he remembered the colour palette of your makeup while you recalled the perfume he wore.
in the recent marathons with him you’ve never been this close, physically speaking. so this close-up really debunked the impression you heard from people, especially from yuta.
however, as you were oblivious with the pressure behind jaehyun’s words and even smiled back at him, yuta flicked your temple. he was indeed a worry wart and sometimes he would like to flick you just this once for being too much of a social butterfly. he knew it was in your nature to be kind and always on the look out for others. he’s fine when you were with anyone except with this guy you befriended. not him.
he dodged your flying limbs in attempts to hit him. “oi, you’re not going to ask how i am? if i’m worried?”
the pain from the flick remained on your temple. “no? you look fine to me-” you stared at your phone. the message reminding you of the singles elite party a month from today at 8pm. “a party?”
“yeah if you attended the previous party you’d know that there’ll be another one after taeyong’s.” yuta took off his shoes in change for his casual.
“hm. i’m don’t feel like going.” you jumped off the bleachers to dust off your pants. “probably gonna be boring.”
“i’m the one who’s holding it this time!” yuta put you under a headlock in his arms. “you’re ditching your best friend?!”
you giggled and ticked his sides and followed it with a playful hug. “just kidding. i heard from momo! i’ll be there.” you brushed your hair up into a messy bun while spotting jaehyun starting to feel out of place. “oh! do you wanna come to the party, jae?”
yuta mentally facepalmed and it was given he didn’t like what you did. but your eyes were quick to see his reaction and you slapped his chest. he glared at you while his hands caressed it. why did you have to invite him? it was the whole purpose why he decided to hold a party; maybe you’d finally appreciate his hardwork, or perhaps, notice him as someone more and as not a best friend who only worries and teases you.
jaehyun nodded in response, no words needed. a smile crept your lips as if you were given chocolates on valentine’s. “cool.” you pulled him on the wrist after hearing the coach calling yuta, followed with a loud whistle. “ah yuta, we‘ll get going! see you.”
“mm yeah..” yuta hummed, seeing you both vanish in the distance. “see you..”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
your sulking self laid sideways by jaehyun’s lap, head rested on a pillow. it’s been too long since yuta avoided you, purposely ditched your hangouts, seenzoned your messages and ignored your calls. as if these weren’t obvious enough for you to know something was up. there definitely was but you couldn’t put a finger to it. so you forced jaehyun to let you stay at his place, being it your apartment was currently invaded by your brother’s friends from abroad.
but honestly it was also because you discovered jaehyun’s unit was blocks away from yours. fate was gladly on your side.
“y/n, you know i can’t work properly when you’re like this.” jaehyun sighed while he adjusted his sitting posture and lifting his laptop.
you slightly and lazily your body turned upright, seeing his dimples beginning to show themselves. “let me be.” you complained.
jaehyun put down his laptop. “i can’t. you’re in my way of cramming hours. plus, how long have you been coming here? it’s getting too frequent..” he paused when your eyes were no longer on him— rather they were on your phone, staring at the last conversation from yuta.
he couldn’t bring himself to say that he was reason why yuta acting the way he was to you. and for all honesty he would keep this matter to himself. “did i do something wrong?” you asked.
“of course not. he’s probably in his emo phase. guys have them a lot more than you think.” jaehyun typed on the keyboard for the remaining parts of the essay. “but he’ll get out of it eventually.”
“fine i’ll trust on that.” you sat up and scooted over to see his progress. you submitted your assignment hours ago. looking at jaehyun, it seemed he was struggling at some parts. were you unconsciously pressuring him? the beads of sweat began to roll down his temples and that made you giggle if it was the case. uh-huh. he was really feeling that way.
he gulped so loudly that it came out as a weird noise. he hoped you didn’t hear that. but the way you pursed your lips to hold the laughter in only had him discontinuing his report. “d-don’t do that.”
“do what?” you snicker.
jaehyun rolled his eyes and poked your forehead. “you’re too distracting.”
oh how the tables have turned. that comment flipped your head upside down, your heart in a frenzy and stomach churning. it wasn’t “so”, but “too”— that only meant he wasn’t concentrating on his work for a while.
even so, you waited for him to finish despite questionable feelings you’ve been feeling. his coffee cup already did seconds and thirds. and suddenly you remembered the happy hour the local café was promoting and there was a few minutes left until it ends for the day. you had to bring him there.
but you decided that because you wanted to be out of that suffocating air jaehyun caused.
the more you walked faster, the more jaehyun’s wrist reddened and hurt. but he let you be as he liked how you were comfortable with someone like him. your hair flowed with the wind, the remains of your shampoo left a sweet scent. was it lavender? and the wind blew stronger, making the scent clearer to the nose. his heart skipped beats, because it was indeed lavender. he swore in his head. scrap aside the frequent marathons and meet-ups. lavender’s all the more reason why fell for you quickly than ever.
and when the local café closed early for the day, you almost lost sight of the pedestrian signs. jaehyun pulled you in as the light emitted red. though you had your emotions get the best of you, you realised how childish you were for something so minor. you laughed in awkwardness, he did too. “i didn’t want anyone to see this side-”
warmth. that was all you thought of right there. you were in his embrace.
“..of me.” you soon mumbled in his chest, realising later of the action he just did. “jaehyun-”
“it’s okay. i don’t too.” his hand gently caressed the back of your head, treating it with care as if he held a newborn baby. “so can i keep you?”
that warmth became hotter, almost boiling that you weren’t able to breathe properly. “i’m sorry.” he said, that must’ve surprised you.” jaehyun chuckled.
surprised? of course you were. how was it natural for him to do skinship? and that smoothly? you both weren’t at that stage yet, let alone have a relationship with mutual feelings. even yuta couldn’t hug you because of how conscious you felt.
but then again, you looked up. you saw his ears. it was red, the usual reaction whenever you were with him. was it normal though? you were never aware of it up until now.
because it was so clear now.
“i’ll see you tomorrow? i have to help my mom with some things.” you lied as you scratched your neck.
jaehyun nodded and pulled away. “alright, go on ahead.”
you poked his dimples because he has been staring at you like he had questions to ask. “what is it?”
maybe he didn’t notice or maybe he did, but he was leaning closer, his head tilting to the side and eyes staring into your soul. you knew what he was about to do, you feel like letting him do so but at the same time you weren’t sure of your feelings.
just a little more and you could’ve locked lips but..
your phone vibrated.
in panic you looked at your device and eyes widened that brought jaehyun aback.
“ah yuta!” you brought your phone so close to your face, not believing your best friend’s announcement on social media, in which he then followed up with a text message.
the light in your eyes was something jaehyun liked seeing, but didn’t so as well.
“oh! he said the concept for the elites’ party is live wardrobe. all singles will go through a ballot draw. it’s for the clothes to wear for the night..” you locked your phone. “tsk i wanted to wear my favourite dress.”
“i think you’ll look great in whatever gown is chosen for you.” jaehyun pat your head while you were immersed in your phone. “now go. it’s getting late.”
“i’ll expect the same for you.” you replied.
he laughed and that didn’t want to make you leave just yet. “nah don’t. i’m just ordinary in a suit.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
funny how he was so damn wrong.
fate let him draw red, and confidently chose a suit once it was his turn to change. it was as if he knew this attire would go well with him. a suede texture with a black outline on its collar accentuated his brushed up light brown hair, while his black under-shirt contrasted with his porcelain skin. gladly it wasn’t halloween, or else you would’ve mistaken him for a vampire.
he had you feeling all sorts of things, and you didn’t know why when you were nothing more than friends.
an hour ago he was in his usual casual wear. now he was surrounded with ladies who already seemed like they were friends with him for decades. you could see jaehyun was uncomfortable but he kept his cool with folded arms as he leaned against a column. the comments from them irritated you, because at one point they were badmouthing him— and the second he showed up they flooded him with compliments of his good looks and how they named him the “model elite”.
you swirled the wine glass in your hand, the other arm hugged your waist. you rolled your eyes at the falseness these people have towards him. “can’t believe it.” your fingers curled as irritation began to cover your sight. “look at them trying to make a move on him. erlgh too close. they weren’t like that before.”
sicheng rolled his tongue, hands in pockets and walked to be in front of you. “really? you weren’t like that before too.” he pointed out.
“i agree. recently you’re stuck like glue whenever you’re with him.” yuta gestured.
“am so not?” you gasped while your eyes trailed to jaehyun, who was still had patience for the ladies surrounding him. “i just like how he’s a good friend.”
“doubt it.” sicheng poked your cheek. “you wouldn’t feel like this when you have feeli-”
not this again. “i’m grabbing a drink.” yuta suddenly cut the conversation.
“get me one too!” the younger one yelled and after he was satisfied with the gesture, he winced as you pinched his sides from the remark he said earlier. “ow! y/n! it’s true though! i know what i’m seeing!”
truthfully, nothing about sicheng’s words or actions bothered you. but if there was anything that did, it was your own heart. as of tonight, you began to question your feelings towards jaehyun. when did it start? how was it possible to like someone so quickly? “i’m telling you i don’t.” your eyes trailed to him, not realising the rush of heat creeping your cheeks.
jaehyun was approached by yuta, who was giving him a glass of beer. the ladies fled after stealing pictures of the guy and he took the drink in his hands. then they headed towards the garden of the mansion. wonder what he’s here for?
“nice party you have here. concept’s cool.” jaehyun started to break the lingering silence because he knew how awkward this was going to be with your best friend.
“yeah, never knew you’d end up in red. it’s y/n’s favourite colour.” yuta’s voice lowered. there was an impact jaehyun could describe but assuming that would be too rude of him.
“really? i didn’t know.” he hummed. aren’t you a little too happy, jaehyun told himself. he shook it off, for he doesn’t expect him and you to go any further than this.
“now you do. so can you back up for a while? take a week off or something from y/n.” yuta raised his brows.
this was the same feeling from before. he knew this feeling because he felt the exact same way. he wanted to be selfish for once. not like he hated yuta, it was just.. he always had to appear whenever he didn’t want him to. then he would mess his mood. he interrupted his joy of admiring you. jaehyun licked his lips to dampen them. “i’m sorry, who are you to tell me what to do?”
yuta grinned and leaned against the column as he mirrored jaehyun. “don’t you get it?” he asked, his tone rising. “i love y/n. you entering the picture just ruins everything.”
my hunch’s correct. he does love y/n. “if you love her you wouldn’t ignore her.”
“it’s because you’re with her! and she does the same to me! it’s like she’s found someone else-”
“you’re being dramatic.” jaehyun pushed himself off the column and turned to him. “y/n’s sad and moping around because you treated her like she’s all alone. you have no idea how much she waited for you to contact her.”
“what do you know, smartass? you’re just another guy trying to fit in when you know you couldn’t. no matter how much you tried, everyone’s afraid of you. and now you’re telling me you have feelings for y/n? please.” his lips jutted with sounds of disbelief while his body posture challenged jaehyun. “y/n’s kind to everyone she meets. it’s who she is. but to think you have hope to be with someone like her? if you ask me, all i see is a greatest mismatch.”
jaehyun usually didn’t give a damn of the comments about him. he couldn’t care less of any of those. in fact he’d hear them through one ear and out they went. but when he said anything, it irked him.
you see, that was the thing— right now, he actually listened.
he turned a blind eye on yuta’s words and let it off for the night. he was given a drink and maybe the alcohol didn’t work its way on him than it did to guy. in the end, yuta was probably spilling tea even if he didn’t intend to.
“what i feel for y/n has nothing to do with you. just like people can’t control the tides,” jaehyun lightly knocked onto yuta’s chest. “i can’t control mine.”
the footsteps echoed in yuta’s ears, he could hear them despite the noisy hall. “rghhh!” he grabbed hold of his glass and threw it towards jaehyun.
sounds of shattering glass met the ground, as well as catching everyone’s attention. then there was silence. jaehyun began to lose his patience as he turned around. his smirk challenged him. ouch. this was the fight yuta was looking for, seeing jaehyun’s heavy breaths only made him stand on his toes.
jaehyun punched him in the jaw though he knew it wasn’t worth his time. but he wanted to give him a taste of stepping beyond boundaries. yuta punched him back too. he made sure the star of the night was the other— shone the brightest and reveal his true nature. he didn’t count the number of hits he received, as long as jaehyun stayed that way.
“i told you it wouldn’t be good if you provoked me!” jaehyun growled. “you’re asking for show? i’ll give you one!”
“huh..” yuta wiped his bleeding lip. “you sure about that, beast?”
jaehyun held himself for the next punch, feeling all of the pairs of eyes on him. yours included. that was what he feared. “aw. what impression does she have on you now?” yuta’s cooing words caused jaehyun’s eyes to soften.
all bleeding and bruised, jaehyun’s injuries have matched with his suit. he clenched his fists as he frustratingly left the hall.
in your peripheral, your eyes trailed his direction and your legs followed him by heart, without realising yuta calling out your name several times. everything went blank, not thinking things straight because while everyone watched, no one understood. you glared at yuta before heading outside, a more disappointed sigh was the only response he got from you.
yuta was then nudged by sicheng. the latter could see the change in his expression. “what did i tell you?”
“you don’t have to tell me.” yuta dusted his pants.
“i’m still gonna.” sicheng rolled his eyes and poked the lad’s temple. “that’s what you call ‘stupidity’. if only you confessed to her before maybe things would be different between you guys.”
“i don’t want things to be different dude.”
“i’m gonna state the obvious, you probably already know this but.. you lost this battle.”
“crap..” yuta’s voice changed from a nervous chuckle to a soft sob. “i liked her first.”
you spotted jaehyun sitting atop a metal barrier just in front of the carpark— head down to mend his injuries and scratches. he sniffed from the cool night breeze before hopping off. “you’ll hurt your feet.” he pointed at the heels you had dangling in your hands.
his gaze softened when you pointed at his face, especially the black eye. “touché.” he chuckled, later feeling your cold hands against his throbbing flesh. “it’s no big deal-”
“i’m sorry about yuta’s behaviour.” you sighed. “don’t let it get into you. he’s an airhead when he’s drunk-”
“you sure? he seemed pretty sober when he said- ah.” he pursed his lips to speak any further. “nevermind.”
now that gotten you curious. “what did he say? spill it!” you whined, causing jaehyun mouth to curve a little in amusement.
jaehyun prolonged the silence and grabbed your shoes, leading you towards his car. once he unlocked it and opened the door, he bursted out in a loud, healthy laugh. “he said he was head over heels for you.”
you pushed him to the driver’s seat and slammed the door, rolling your eyes at the pun. “that was so lame!” you sat on the other side. “but i know that already if you thought i didn’t. i subtly turned him down ages ago. guess he didn’t take the message.”
“clearly.”
as you tended to his wounds, one question still had your curiosity at its peak. jaehyun was quiet through-out, so it was hard to bring the topic up for a while. until your eyes and his met.
“what did you tell him before he threw the glass at you?” you dabbed the cotton onto the beaten area. “it must’ve pissed him.”
he dropped his car keys and let out a nervous hum. “uh..” he didn’t know what else to say. right when he was finally about to tell you, you suddenly giggled.
“unless you told him you like me and that made him angry, but i doubt that happened.” your lips shrank to a circle, cursing at yourself for assuming too much. girl the guts you have was incomparable—
jaehyun’s large hand held yours while you continued to apply medication. the warmth, the heat and the building tension of skinship made you weak. “you’re right.”
your smile and breaths changed in an instant when he fixed himself on the seat. he smirked a little, finding how cute you were. it drove him crazy.
“i like you, for the longest time, since the orientation. i’m so into you that i couldn’t help myself be selfish and have you to myself— i- i don’t know what i’m saying.” he sighed, pushing himself away in embarrassment with arms above his face.
“t-thanks.” you fiddled with your fingers.
“i’m not asking for an answer. i just wanted to let you know.” he said. “gosh this is a bad timing for confession.”
“then is it a bad timing if i said i’m into you too?” you looked away and out in the distance. you could see his reaction on the window’s reflection. he was shocked, but an uncontrollable smile was forcing itself on the surface. it was written in the dimples.
“no,” his husky voice called you to look back. “you’re just about right.”

Interviews - Tanner Buchanan
Request-Hmm hi, I would like to make a request. I don't know if you write for Cobra Kai actors, but I would love for you to be able to write about a scenario where the reader is a member of the cobra kai cast and is invited along with Tanner and Xolo to participate in some videos on the BuzzFeed channel. (reading thirsty tweets and responding to fans while playing with puppies), and it's all super funny and among the three. By the way if you could make a Tanner × Reader I would love it, you can choose if they are going to be a couple or just friends who like each other and maybe the reader's name might be Mercy and that ends up generating several jokes among the rest of the cast.
Name/pronouns used-  Mercy, She/Her
A/N- I love this request. Hope this is okay for you x
Warnings- mentions of adult themes (reading thirst tweets)
Word Count- 1,409
Tumblr media
You had been invited to come to BuzzFeed Studios, along with your boyfriend Tanner, and Xolo. You had been told that you would be recording two interviews, one in which you would be answering fan questions with puppies, and the other you would be reading thirst tweets. Needless to say, it would be a fun day.
The third season of Cobra Kai had been released, and you were looking forward to some of the questions that would come up.
***************
The three of you were all sitting on the floor, there were puppies roaming around you. You had grown quite attached to one puppy in particular.
The interviewer started talking, addressing you all, “Ok, so are you guys ready?” You all nodded. “Do you guys hang out in real life?”
You started, “Well, Tanner and I live together, so yes,” you chucked, “but we do hang out with Xolo, sometimes. Like the other day, we came round to his house, and he was just sorta sitting there...” You, and Tanner started laughing, while Xolo put his head in his hands, groaning.
“...and like, he was playing Pokémon in his underwear, and like-” you completely broke down laughing, “He won his battle and he jumped up, and started doing like, the most ridiculous victory dance, -” you couldn’t stop laughing, so Tanner continued.
“He was dancing around- it literally looked like what that puppy’s doing, and then he like saw Mercy and I just staring at him, and then he just stopped, looked at us, and just went completely pale, and ran upstairs,” Tanner laughed.
“Your never gonna stop telling that story, are you?” Xolo asked.
“Nope!” You answered.
----
“Have any jokes been made about Mercy’s name?”
“Pretty much every day on set, someone will shout ‘No Mercy!’ and she’ll look around, and be like ‘What did I do?’” Xolo said. You and Tanner chuckled.
“It’s like a constant running joke,” you said, “Everyone will say ‘no’ in from of my name. It’s quite funny actually,”
----
“How did Tanner and Mercy meet, and how long have you been dating?”
“We met on set, I remember because it was Xolo who introduced us for the first time,” Tanner looked over at Xolo.
“Yeah, I already knew Mercy, so I was the one that introduced her to everyone. You guys like immediately hit it off too,” Xolo continued.
“Yeah, we did, and as for dating-” Tanner looked over at you, “Mercy will you stop getting distracted by the puppy?”
“Don’t you think he looks a bit like Xolo as a dog?” You said.
“What?” Xolo and Tanner said in sync.
“What? He does!” The other two laughed, “He has the same eyes, look,” You put the Puppy’s face next to Xolo’s. “See!”
“He does as well, oh my God” Tanner laughed.
“Yeah,” you said, cuddling the puppy, “and as for how long we’ve been dating: it’s been about 2 and a half years,”
----
“Have you kept anything from the Cobra Kai set?”
“No” Tanner answered, while playing tug of war with a puppy.
“I don’t think I have,” Xolo said, a little unsure.
“I have,” you declared. All eyes turned to you, “It was the studded boots that I wore in the school fight,” you said.
“How did you manage to get them?” Xolo asked, a little confused.
“Basically, I accidently kept them on when I left the set. I was going to return them, but they never asked, so I just...didn’t” You laughed.
“Wow... My girlfriend a stealer, I never would’ve guessed,” Tanner teased.
“Well, they never asked for them, so...” You said with a nervous chuckle.
“You just have to hope that they don’t see this and ask for them back,” Xolo pointed out.
“Oh yeah, I should’ve thought of that. Shh, don't tell them” You responded, while petting the puppy who was squirming in your lap.
***************
Your first interview had just finished, and You made a mental note to ask Tanner if you get adopt a puppy when you got home. The three of you were on your way to your next interview: Reading Thirst Tweets. You were a little bit nervous, as to what people had to say about you, but you were interested to see the boys’ reaction.
“Okay guys, the way this is going to work, is you’re gonna introduce yourselves and what you’re doing. Then we’ll get right into it, and you guys pick out tweets from the mug,” The interviewer stated, and you all nodded.
The cameraman started rolling, and Xolo started speaking, “Hi I’m Xolo Maridueña,”
“I’m Mercy Y/L/N,”
“I’m Tanner Buchanan. We are some of the cast of Cobra Kai, and we’re gonna be reading thirst tweets,”
“Let’s do it!” You shouted.
----
Xolo was first to read one out, “Xolo Maridueña could slap me in the face, and I’d still thank him. I’d be a bit worried if you thanked someone for slapping you in the face, but whatever rows your boat I guess,”
“I agree with that,” You said.
“What with the tweet?” Tanner questioned, looking at you confused.
“No! With what Xolo said about it” You voiced rather loudly, while Xolo snickered in the background.
“Good. I would be worried,” Tanner stated, and you laughed.
----
Tanner was next to pick one out, “I’m nervous to read these, cause my girlfriend is literally standing right next to me,” he let out a nervous laugh.
“Don’t be nervous, if anything I will find them funny,” You reassured him.
“Okay, here we go,” he started to read, “Tanner Buchanan is honestly so hot, I’d lick his feet if he asked me to. Um, I’m not quite sure what to think of that. It’s a bit weird, I’m not gonna lie.”
“Yeah, I was about to say that,” Xolo chipped in.
“I have no words,” You added.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t like it,” Tanner said, “Please don’t lick my feet,” He chuckled.
----
“Okay, my turn,” You picked a tweet out and read it aloud, “I don’t know about you, but I’d hope that Mercy Y/L/N shows me none while in the bedroom. Why did I just know that my name would play a part in this!” You remarked.
“I think we all did, to be fair,” Xolo voiced.
“It is a classic though,” Tanner pointed out.
You shook your head. “It is a classic, I will give you that,” You sighed, “You’d just expect people to be a bit more creative,” You noted.
----
Xolo picked one out again, “Oh Jesus, okay,” He uttered, and You and Tanner laughed. “I’m not even joking at this point, I want to lather Xolo Maridueña in hot fudge, and lick his-” he cut himself off, “ I think we all know what that says”
You and Tanner just laughed at Xolo’s flushed face. “Xolo, are you getting uncomfortable?” You giggled.
“No, I’m not uncomfortable, I just wasn’t expecting that” He exclaimed.
“Your reaction was just priceless,” Tanner mentioned, making you all let out a small laugh.
----
“Ooh Tanner. Are you nervous?” Xolo grinned. You laughed as he picked out a tweet.
“After Xolo’s one I am a bit,” He stated, “Okay. Would anyone else sit on Tanner Buchanan’s like it was your throne? No? Just me? Alright.”
“Well then...” You said, trying not to laugh.
“That’s an interesting take on things,” Xolo snickered.
“I don’t know how to respond to that, at all.” Tanner said, making you all burst out laughing.
----
“Okay, last one,” You picked one out, “I’m just gonna say it. I’d love it if Mercy Y/L/N would spit in my mouth. Okay... um, maybe take me to dinner first, then we can talk about it,” You laughed.
“Yeah, because you’ve always got to go out to dinner before you spit in someone’s mouth,” Xolo said with blatant sarcasm.
“Of course,” You replied, “Tanner what do you think?”
“All I can say to that is: fair enough,” He made you laugh, “I mean I can understand the appeal,” This comment made you all crack up into fits of laughter.
“I think Tanner’s taking notes” Xolo commented, still laughing.
----
“We have been the cast of Cobra Kai,” You started wrapping the video up, “Tanner has been very confused throughout this, and we have been emotionally scarred by BuzzFeed,” You ended.
It had been quite an eventful day, but fun. (and just in case you were wondering, Tanner agreed to getting a puppy with you)

Nesta Archeron x Cassian - Tattoo Convention Oneshot
Nesta loses Cassian at a tattoo convention.

“Cassian, I swear to the mother, when I find you…” Nesta grumbled to herself for the fourth, no it was the fifth, time in the last twenty minutes.
She pushed through the herds of people crowding the aisle, trying her best to scour every booth for her missing boyfriend.
One moment, he had been standing behind her waiting as she scrutinized a certain design, the next, she turned back around, and he had disappeared.
Deciding she wasn’t going to find him in this row, she turned the corner and began walking down the next aisle starting her search over again.
If she was lucky, she would spot his massive frame sticking out above the clusters of people, but so far luck wasn’t on her side because she’d been walking around the convention hall for almost half an hour now searching for him. Nesta passed each booth looking at the artists and the customers, but they were all strangers.
Getting to the end, she took one last scan over the heavily tattooed convention-goers—most having several visible piercings in their ears, noses, and sporadic other places on the face that she thought would be excruciating to pierce—and wondered what the hell she was doing.
Sighing heavily, Nesta turned and started walking down the next aisle.
Two years ago, if someone had told Nesta she would be wandering around a tattoo convention, she would’ve laughed in their face at the absurdity of it.
A year ago, she’d have rolled her eyes and said that even her ink-covered boyfriend who made her realized she didn’t hate all tattoos, wouldn’t have been able to convince her to spend a day surrounded by the buzzing machines and colorfully covered patrons.
Last week, she considered it.
Being with Cassian had made her learn a lot about herself; one of those things being the fact that she found all of his ink incredibly attractive.
There was something about the way the ink stood out on his tanned skin that made it look like it was supposed to be there. She couldn’t even imagine her boyfriend without his tattoos. The one time she tried, she made a mental image of his arms without the swirling geometric designs and his back without the large bat-like wings, not to mention all the other little designs he had strewn across his body suddenly gone—and she was surprised to find herself dismayed at the lack on ink.
One night, when Nesta was idly tracing some of the lines across his chest, she confessed to Cassian that she wanted to get a small tattoo of her own.
At first, he had been shocked. As much as she loved his designs, he knew she still looked at most people’s tattoos with distaste. In her words, “most of the tattoos I see look like someone stumbled into a shop at four in the morning, drunk out of their mind, and picked out the first thing they saw. And the artist just went with it.”
But Nesta listened whenever he talked about his own designs; about how they all meant something to him. How every design held a memory. Every time he looked at them—whether he was intentionally studying them or when he caught a glimpse of one out of the corner of his eye—he would think about why he got it. Each tattoo made him remember a story, or a person, or some sort of inspiration.
They were reminders, self-expressions, and memories.
Even the one he got when he and his brothers were wasted and thought getting matching tattoos—done by each other, of course—was an amazing idea. He always pointed out that particular tattoo whenever Nesta explained her disdain for the “impulsive permanent decisions” saying that even though the design isn’t great, every time he looks at it he laughs and thinks of the great time he has when he’s with his brothers.
So when Nesta told him she wanted to get a tattoo, Cassian was more than surprised. But as soon as his shock wore off, he got the broadest smile on his face and immediately started asking her questions. What did she want? How long had she wanted one? Color or Black and White? Where on her body? Question after question, and Nesta was glad that Cassian had been thrilled.
Smirking, she remembered what he had told her when she asked him if he thought she would look good with a tattoo.
“Good?” She’d never seen him look more ravenous, already picturing what she would look like with ink covering her body. He cupped her face and looked into her eyes. “Nes, sweetheart, you are already so gorgeous, but, fuck,” he groaned, “you would look so fucking stunning that I don’t know how I’d ever be able to keep my hands off you.”
Then he made sure to show her just how much he liked the idea of tattoos covering her body, using his tongue to trace potential designs across every inch of her skin.
The next day, Cassian showed Nesta the poster for the tattoo convention happening soon which brought dozens of artists together to showcase their work and allow for people to get tattoos done, and admire the different aesthetics and designs.
When Nesta agreed to go with him, she made it very clear she was just looking for inspiration. It was practical, she reasoned, to go to see all kinds of designs in one place so she could get a sense of what exactly she wanted.
She figured he would be attached to her side, wanting to show her everything and point out his favorites.
The last thing she expected was to lose Cassian in the crowd.
Nesta finished eyeing another row of booths, still no sign of her missing, infuriating, boyfriend.
“C’mon Nesta, he said” she muttered as she walked. “It’ll be fun, he said. You’ll get inspired and I’ll be right there with you, he said.”
Nesta just about turned the corner when a booming laugh caught her attention. Zeroing in on the sound she caught sight of Cassian—well, his hair really. The long, dark, wavy strands were pulled up into a bun on top of his head, making his strong jawline covered in artfully groomed stubble stand out.
Nesta sometimes found it hard to stay mad at Cassian because no matter what she was upset about, he always found a way to make her smile. Even unintentionally. Like right now, part of her wanted to strangle him for vanishing on her and making her scour the convention hall for him, but hearing the sound of his laugh softened her and she allowed herself to smile at him before quickly schooling her features and making her way over to where he was sitting.
Sitting.
He was sitting in a reclining chair while the booth’s tattoo artist leaned over him to draw a new piece of artwork on his skin.
Nesta was going to kill him. Seething, she marched towards him.
He brought her here, he disappeared, and then he went off to get a new tattoo—without her.
Cassian’s eyes lit up as he spotted her. “Nes! Check it out, look who’s here.”
For the first time, Nesta looked at who exactly was inking her boyfriend.
“Az?” She blinked, momentarily losing her frustration. “I didn’t know you would be here.”
Azriel dipped his needle into the ink again and let out a low chuckle. Once he deemed enough ink was added, he gave Nesta a rueful smile. “I assumed this one,” he nodded at Cass who was still grinning at her “would show up today, but I thought I could get a couple of hours of actual clients before he took over my booth. I didn’t expect to see you here, though” Azriel concentrated on tracing another line but raised an eyebrow in her general direction.
“Yeah, well, this one,” she imitated Azriel’s tone and nodded at Cassian, “wanted to show me what one of these conventions was like, but apparently he decided it was better to run off and get another tattoo.”
Setting her bag down, Nesta sunk into the chair beside Cassian and crossed her arms.
“I’ve been wandering around for more than thirty minutes looking for you, asshole”
Az snorted, but didn’t comment, just kept drawing something that Nesta couldn’t quite see.
“Aw babe, don’t be mad,” Cassian leaned over as best he could and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before she could turn away. Not that she didn’t want a kiss from him, but she was still upset at his antics. “You were so absorbed looking at that lady’s designs I didn’t want to interrupt you.”
Nesta’s anger melted a little at that. They had been walking around for a while when Nesta spotted a particular design she liked. She dragged Cassian over to a booth hosted by a woman whose arms were covered in colorful images and had her hair pulled back in a bright bandanna. She had a handful of binders on the table filled with designs and photos of healed artwork.
It was the minimalistic stack of books that had caught Nesta’s eye from across the aisle. She followed the single line as it swirled around creating the image. She must have been more lost in thought than she realized if Cassian deemed it best not to interrupt her.
“And,” He gave her a wide grin, “I hoped I could find Az and convince him to tattoo me for free.”
Rolling her eyes at Cass’ satisfied look and Az’s long-suffering one, she watched as people passed by the booth. Some looked through the design books, others paused to watch for a moment as Az worked. Turning back to face Cassian, she saw he was already looking at her.
“Fine. I’m still annoyed, though.” She leaned in closer, “What are you getting?”
Now Cassian’s face turned a little nervous. He still looked excited and happy and keen in the way he always looked when he watched her, but now he started to look a little worried, too.
“Before you freak out or get angry, let me explain.”
Nesta’s mind immediately went to worst-case scenarios. What could he be getting that he thought she would be angry? What would Azriel agree to ink that she should be upset about? Was it—
“Great way to start.” Azriel muttered from Cassian’s other side.
“Shut up.” He rolled his eyes and turned back to Nesta just as she stood up and walked around to peer over Azriel’s shoulder.
Az was putting the finishing touches on but she could see exactly what the image was.
It was delicate ‘N’ on the inner edge of his wrist.
Nesta didn’t say anything—couldn’t say anything—she just stared at the design now permanently etched into her boyfriend’s skin.
Cassian cleared his throat and Azriel backed away to put his needles down and give them a moment of privacy. As much privacy as they could have in the small booth.
“It’s an N,” Obviously. “For you.” Obviously.
Nesta couldn’t drag her gaze away from the letter. All her anger and frustration faded away. She forgot how irritated she was with him, how upset she had been when she turned around and he was gone. She forgot the instant jolt of panic she felt when she thought she had lost him.
Nesta took in each line and curve of the tattoo and felt such an overwhelming feeling of love for this crazy, impulsive, wonderful man.
“You…” She finally looked up to see him watching her face carefully.
“What do you think?” He waited for her to say something, but after a moment of silence, he started rambling. “Is it too much? Do you like it? You don’t like it. It’s too much. If you don’t like it I can change it. I mean, I can see if Az can change it. I could get it covered up—”
“No!”
Nesta grabbed his worried face in her hands and kissed him fiercely. She tried to pour everything she was feeling into that kiss, and make him know that she did like it, she loved it. She loved him.
“No, don’t cover it up.” She pressed her forehead to his before pulling back and intertwining their fingers, using her grip to lift his arm to get a better view.
“So, you do like it?” A slow smile appeared on his face.
Nodding softly, she told him, “I do.” Nesta swallowed, another rush of emotion hitting her. “You really wanted to get something for me inked onto you? These things last forever you know.” She tried to make a joke, but she was still feeling overwhelmed.
She almost couldn’t believe that he wanted a piece of her, something to remind him of her constantly and forever. It was insane; totally impulsive and unbelievable, but the sweetest most loving gesture anyone had ever done for her.
Cassian used his fingers to tilt her chin up so he could look her in the eye. “Of course I wanted to. Every time I’ll see it, I’ll think of you.”
She kissed him again.
Breaking apart, Nesta slowly moved her finger around the letter, careful not to brush it and hurt him.
“Why here?”
He forced her to meet his stare as he said, “I wanted it over my pulse point because my heart beats for you.”
He kissed her this time and put everything he had into it. She brought one hand around behind his head, the other rested on his chest, and kissed him back with just as much passion.
“That’s so corny” she murmured against his lips
They broke apart, each breathing a bit heavily.
Cassian gave her a cheeky grin and winked.
“You love it. And didn’t you know, sweetheart,” he gave her one more peck on the lips, “we’re gonna last forever, too.”

I know I’ve posted a lot of oneshots recently, but don’t worry, I’m absolutely still working on my longer fics. I’m just taking advantage of the inspiration as it hits me

“It’s probably best to go back to the breach, right?” you decided. “We know it’s there so it’s the best way to get back.”
“_____ has a point,” Wonwoo shrugged.
“Alright, everyone head back to the hole -- and don’t get split up,” Seungcheol stated before deciding to take the lead.
“Okay, but if I see one of those glorified Chuck E. Cheese mascots coming toward us, I’m leaving all of you behind,” Seungkwan muttered as he followed with the group.
All of you were glancing around trying to keep an eye out for the animatronics, while also trying to quickly and quietly make your way back to the way you’d gotten into the park. You kept mentally kicking yourself for convincing your friends to come here. If it wasn’t for you, you wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place. You were just lucky everyone was still here...
The gates were starting to come into view, and you felt relief begin to course through you. Your legs were starting to move faster on their own, just wanting to get out of this living nightmare.
Seungcheol shooting his arms out to stop the group was what had you skid to a stop. He whispered loudly for everyone to get down behind the nearby shrubs and two trash bins. The fourteen of you poked your heads around to see what had gotten him to act like this, and your heart sank at what you saw
Serenity was blocking the hole in the fence.
“Fuck,” Jeonghan hissed.
“We’re gonna die here...” Seokmin whispered, but Wonwoo was quick to comfort him.
“What’s the plan now?” Hansol wondered.
“I know it’ll risk us going to jail or something,” Jihoon began, “but I think it’s time we just cave and call someone.”
“No, I’m not going back there!” Seungkwan whispered intensely.
Your eyebrows furrowed as your turned to look at him, “Excuse me?”
“I’d rather get arrested than get murdered,” Mingyu insisted. “At least we know we’ll be safe and alive in jail.”
You made a face, “Will we, though?”
“Listen,” Hansol interrupted as he pulled out his phone, “I’ll just call my parents -- they’re really chill. And worse case scenario, they just lecture us.”
But as he went to make the call, all his phone did was beep at him like the line was busy. He took the phone away from his ear and looked down, furrowing his eyebrows.
“We had service all night, right?” he asked.
“Yeah...?” Joshua replied.
“Well now I don’t for some reason,” he said, turning his phone screen to show his friends.
Mingyu’s eyes widened, “You’re kidding.”
Then everyone, including you, were taking out their phones and checking for service. Just like Hansol, you had no bars.
Unfortunately, everyone else was in the same boat.
Now, Seokmin was on the verge of tears, “We’re going to die here!”
“Don’t get hysterical yet,” Minghao told him. “There’s gotta be a way out of this. Even if we have to wait around until morning, we can probably out-run these hunks of metal.”
“Y’know, I heard a friend of a friend snuck in here once,” Soonyoung began. “Some dude Changkyun knows. He said there’s apparently some sort of underground exit under the food court.”
“At this point, we’ll have to try anything,” Wonwoo sighed.
“So back to the food court?” Seungcheol practically whined.
You took a deep breath, “Unfortunately, yeah.”

“Does anyone even remember where the hole in the fence is?” you asked.
Everyone either gave you blank stares or shook their heads. You let out a sigh.
“Alternate way it is,” Minghao shrugged.
“Let’s just hang here until someone thinks of something,” Seungcheol suggested. “We’re all here, and I think those things are still hanging around wherever we were before. It’ll take a while before we see them again.”
So the fourteen of you hung out at the merry-go-round. Most of you leaned up against the horses or found yourselves sitting down on them. A few of you sat on the two steps of the platform. Chan and Wonwoo were sitting in one of the carriages that most families or parents sat in. All of you were scrolling on your phones or looking at someone else’s phone, trying to research anything about Caratland that might help you find a way out. Maybe a map or a blueprint or something might come up.
Suddenly, the ride jerked. You almost fell over onto Junhui as the ride began turning slowly, the music trying to play but the wiring was too old and worn that it just sounded demonic at best.
“Ha ha, very funny,” Jihoon scoffed. “Who turned on the ride?”
The question was overlooked by Mingyu’s shriek. Every head who was on his side of the merry-go-round whipped over to see Bongbong sitting on a horse only a few rows away from the tall boy. But another scream from Seungkwan was what brought attention to the answer to Jihoon’s question.
Eight was standing at the controls of the ride, his never-changing smile on his face as he slowly waved.
“Run!” Joshua called, leaping off of the horse he was sitting sideways on.
“Run where?” Seokmin called as he scrambled to get off the ride and jump the short fence.
“Food court!” Soonyoung shouted as he pumped his legs as fast as they would go. “It’s a long shot...but I have an idea!”
“I’d rather know the idea first!” Jeonghan called after him as the group ran together away from the merry-go-round.
“One of Changkyun’s friends apparently broke in before!” he tried to explain between breaths. “He said there’s an underground exit there! Who knows if it’s legit, but...”
But it was the only plan they had.

All of you had to squeeze through the tiny basement windows to get back in after finding the doors to be locked once again.
“How’d those fuckers get out in the first place?” Jeonghan huffed as he landed on the concrete floor of the basement. “The doors have been locked this entire time.”
“We’re being chased by animatronics that haven’t been functioning for years, and they’re out to kill us for some reason, and that’s what you’re going to question?” Soonyoung pointed out.
“Can we focus, please?” Seungcheol whined. “The sooner we find this secret eit, the sooner we’re free.”
“Everyone start searching,” Hansol said, waiving for everyone to scour the basement.
All of you searched every inch you could. The floor, the walls, shelves, behind old cupboards and props -- but there was nothing.
“What if it’s not here?” Chan suggested.
“Yeah? And where else would an underground exit be other than in the basement?” Jeonghan shot back.
The youngest frowned and rolled his eyes, “Soonyoung just said it was underground, he didn’t say under what part of the food court.”
“I mean...Jeonghan has a point,” Seokmin admitted hesitantly. “The basement is underground.”

“It can’t hurt to check somewhere else,” you spoke up, moving to stand beside Chan. “We’re looked everywhere down here. What if it’s not in the basement? There could be some secret tunnel under a different location and we’re just going to be here wasting our time.”
“I mean...yeah, that makes sense,” Jihoon decided with a shrug. “Alright, we’ll try back upstairs.”
“I don’t wanna go back up there...” Seokmin whined, clinging to the nearest person -- it happened to be Junhui.
“We’re all going,” you reassured him with a soft smile. “Let’s go. Nothing’s going to happen.”
You led the way up the stairs this time, but you found yourself going slow. You strained your ears for any noise on the other side of the basement door but the food court seemed to be quiet. Maybe the animatronics couldn’t get back in since the doors were locked.
You pushed the door open cautiously, poking your head out to glance around. It seemed empty, so you opened the door wider and let everyone else out.
“Is that e--”
SLAM!
All of you jumped back and turned around hearing the basement door slam shut behind the last person out.
“Fuck this, I want out,” Mingyu stated, shaking his head as he began to quickly walk away from the door.
“Hold up,” Wonwoo reached out and grabbed Mingyu’s wrist to keep him with the group. “We should stick together.”
“It probably just closed from the weight of the door anyway,” Minghao figured before going to pull on the door handle.
It didn’t budge.
“Move out of the way, toothpick,” Seungcheol smoothly pushed Minghao out of the way before trying the door himself.
Still nothing.
“D-did it...lock?” Chan asked slowly.
“Haha, would you look at that?” Seungkwan said, checking his wrist that very clearly didn’t have a watch on it. “I actually have to get the fuck out of here. Bye!”
“Maaaaybe,” Hansol grabbed him by the elbow and dragged him back, “don’t do that.”
“Yeah, nobody goes running off, got it?” Jihoon checked, shining his light at everyone to make sure they agreed to the new rule. “Shit’s too weird to be splitting up.”
“I think our best bet would be to hide in the security room until morning,” you spoke up. “It’s probably the safest place in here.”
“_____’s right,” Wonwoo nodded. “Let’s go -- and stick together.”
As a group, all of you made your way to the security room, with you, Jihoon, and Soonyoung leading the way. All of you had your lights, shining them around to make sure the entire area was safe until you made it to the security room and barricaded the door closed.
“Jesus Christ, I hated that,” Mingyu panted as if he had been holding his breath the entire time you were walking.
“I think I almost shit myself,” Soonyoung admitted.
“Imagine your last words being ‘I think I almost shit myself’,” Junhui snorted.
“Hang on, shut the fuck up,” Seungcheol snapped, holding a hand up as he quickly scanned the group in the room. He was trying to count heads while all of you were talking, and as he quickly recounted, his blood turned to ice. “Why are we one short?”
“One short?” Jeonghan asked.
“Someone’s missing,” he said urgently.
“Alright, let’s run attendance real quick,” Jihoon decided, trying to stay level-headed. He pulled out his phone and went to the group chat. “Obviously I’m here. Soonyoung?”
“Here.”
“Seungcheol?”
“Here.”
“Mingyu?”
“Unfortunately here.”
“Hansol?”
“Yup.”
“_____?”
“Here.”
“Joshua?”
Silence.
Jihoon looked up from his phone, repeating, “Josh?”
You and your friends looked around, trying to find Joshua’s face in the crowded room. But nobody spoke up, and the silence following Joshua’s name became deafening.
“Oh fuck...” you breathed, trying to not completely lose your shit. “Did we really lose Josh?”
“We have to go back for him,” Jeonghan insisted.
“What? No!” Seungkwan shouted. “That’s suicide!”
Then everyone was bickering. While everyone of course wanted to hope Joshua was safe, half of the group felt that going back out to look for him would mean all of them would get killed. The other half, on the other hand, were willing to risk their lives to go on a rescue mission.

“I mean...how would it be under anywhere else?” you asked slowly with a shrug. “No offense, Chan. But like, this is kind of the only basement in the place.”
“See?” Jeonghan sneered.
Chan just frowned and rolled his eyes.
“There’s gotta be something we missed,” Soonyoung said, trying to stay calm. “Let’s just sweep the place over again.”
But after more looking, you still came up with nothing.
“At this point, I’m about to just dig through the boxes of old animatronic parts and just hope there’s a portal at the bottom or something,” Joshua sighed, slumped against a wall with Jeonghan beside him.
“Good luck,” Jeonghan scoffed. “I already tried picking one up to move them away from the wall but they’re super fucking heavy. It’s literally impossible.”
You turned your head to look at the large stack of boxes. There were piles of various sizes, but the ones at the back pressed up against the wall went up the highest. It was a long shot, but behind the boxes was the only place nobody checked because it couldn’t be reached. But with everyone giving up hope, it didn’t hurt to try, right?
“Hey, Gyu,” you spoke up before pointing to the boxes. “Think you can move those?”
Mingyu shrugged, “Yeah, probably.”
He walked over to the wall and began lifting boxes one-by-one. He grunted as he picked them up and moved them away until he called everyone over.
“There’s metal behind here!” he called over his shoulder.
“Ooh, is it the door?” Soonyoung asked excitedly, pushing himself off the floor.
“Told you it was better to look down here,” Jeonghan said once more.
Jihoon groaned, “Can you let it go? Leave Chan alone already.”
Seungcheol started assisting in the box-moving until the metal door was accessible. Seungcheol tried to push it open, but it didn’t budge. He tried harder, but still nothing.
“Can I try?” Mingyu asked.
Seungcheol stepped out of the way, gesturing for the tallest to give it a shot.
Mingyu threw his shoulder into the door a few times before it finally swung open, leading to a narrow corridor that looked like it would bring you straight to Hell.
“Okay,” Soonyoung breathed out, “let’s see if this is the way to freedom.”

“Why is this an argument?!” you shouted over the bickering. “Our friend could be dead! I don’t care if nobody comes with me, but I’m going to find Josh.”
“I’ll go,” Jeonghan stated.
“Me too,” Hansol volunteered with a slight raise of his hand.
“Plus, I highly doubt an animatronic got him,” Minghao scoffed as he went to join your group as you went to open the door.
“Well...good luck with that,” Seungkwan nodded.
In the end, it was you leading the way, with Jeonghan, Hansol, Minghao, Seokmin, and Seungcheol tagging along -- the latter two clinging to each other as you opened the door and went down the short hallway to the door that read EMPLOYEES ONLY on the other side.
“Why would he split off from the group?” Jeonghan wondered. “If he were trying to prank you guys, he would’ve had me in on it.”
“Maybe he just--”
Your sentence was cut off by a scream -- your own scream. Your eyes saw the scene before you: Joshua’s body laying just in front of the EMPLOYEES ONLY door, a bloodied mess. All you could do was scream.
Standing over him, covered in what you could only assume was your friend’s blood, was Bongbong.
“_____, run!” Minghao shouted, grabbing your arm and yanking you away from the door.
He quickly reached for the door and slammed it closed as you and the others ran back down the short hall. Jihoon had poked his head out the door to see what the noise was, and you crashed right into him, hyperventilating as tears welled in your eyes.
God, that image was going to be burned into your brain forever.
“What happened?” he asked.
“J-J-Josh!” you sobbed.
“Those things are in here,” Minghao panted, closing the door to the security room and pressing his back. “Th-they got Josh.”
“You’re fucking with us,” Seungkwan said quietly and very unsurely.
“Would Minghao fuck with you?!” Jeonghan cried. “If you don’t believe us, why don’t you go out there and check for yourself, Kwan? Go get yourself traumatized!”
“Okay, don’t scream at him, it won’t help anything,” Wonwoo spoke up, trying to somehow keep the group put together.
“Let’s just focus on finding a way out,” Seungcheol decided in a shaky voice.
“U-um...guys?” Mingyu spoke up, staring into the monitors.
Everyone gathered over to see what he was looking at.
Each room had a camera and a monitor to go with it. In each room, stood an animatronic. Each camera had an animatronic staring into it, as if they all were staring at the group.
They knew where you were.
“We have to get out of here,” Seomin panted, beginning to hyperventilate. “They’re going to come in here and kill us!”
“I get it’s scary, but we have to stay calm and--”
“Hey!”
Everyone turned their heads a the sudden exclamation. Chan was standing beside a square metal door in the floor with some dusty boxes and wires he’d moved to find it. He smirked, gesturing to the door.
“While you guys were shitting your pants, I found the underground exit,” he stated.
“Well fuck, kid,” Jihoon whistled under his breath.
“Let’s get the hell outta here,” Soonyoung said as he threw the trapdoor opened and descended the ladder that led to a narrow corridor.
Chan gave Jeonghan a pointed look, “And you thought I was stupid.”
Jeonghan just rolled his eyes, “Whatever.”

You felt like a shitty person for not wanting to risk your life for Joshua. You felt extremely guilty that you didn’t want to go out and look for your friend, but truthfully, you were afraid to die -- and that’s why half your friends didn’t want to go looking for him. Not everyone was brave enough to be a hero, and while you always told yourself you would be when putting yourself into the shoes of horror movie characters, it just wasn’t the truth.
But in the midst of the argument of whether or not to go out to search for Josh -- the argument that you stayed silent for -- Mingyu spoke up in a shaky voice, “U-uh...g-guys?”
Everyone turned toward him to see he was staring into the monitors. You all gathered over to see what he was looking at.
Each room had a camera and a monitor to go with it. However, the monitors had gone fuzzy so you couldn’t see anything in any of the rooms.
Wonwoo’s eyebrows furrowed, “Why are the cameras suddenly down?”
You wished they stayed that way after seeing what was displayed next. In each room, stood an animatronic. Each camera had an animatronic staring into it, as if they all were staring at the group.
They knew where you were.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the most disturbing thing.
You could see on one of the monitors, Bongbong was standing in front of the camera holding a familiar body. Joshua was being held up by his neck, and blood was coming out of his mouth, nose, eyes, and even his ears.
You weren’t the only one to let out a scream and flinch away from the camera, hiding your face as you started panicking and crying.
“We have to get out of here,” Seomin panted, beginning to hyperventilate. “They’re going to come in here and kill us!”
“We have to find the fucking exit!” Seungcheol said in a panic. “Everyone go--”
“Hey!”
Everyone turned their heads a the sudden exclamation. Chan was standing beside a square metal door in the floor with some dusty boxes and wires he’d moved to find it. He was just staring at you like he hadn’t just witnessed what all of you did -- and maybe he didn’t because he was too busy searching.
“Way ahead of you,” he stated.
“Thank god,” Jihoon said under his breath.
“Let’s get the hell outta here,” Soonyoung said as he threw the trapdoor opened and descended the ladder that led to a narrow corridor.
Chan gave Jeonghan a pointed look, “And you thought I was stupid.”
Jeonghan just glared at him, “I’m not in the fucking mood.”
And then he went down the ladder.

Other than only being wide enough for one person to walk through at a time, it was also very dimly-lit. It definitely looked like something straight out of a horror movie that would 100% lead to the characters’ imminent death.
Needless to say your heart was pounding in your ears.
There was another metal door, but this one was far easier to open. The squeak of it echoed down the corridor as the thirteen of you filed into the room. It seemed to be where they kept the spare mascot suits that actual employees would wear. There were a few of the bodies of the suits hanging up, with heads scattered in corners and on shelves, along with gloves and feet strewn about.
“I hate this,” Jun stated, looking around the room.
“I know these things are empty, but looking into their empty eyes is somehow worse,” Jihoon mumbled, staring at an Eight head.
At the opposite end of the tiny room in the right corner was another metal door. You were starting to wonder how many more metal doors you’d have to encounter in this place.
To the left of the room, there was a tiny wooden door that seemed like it would lead to a crawlspace. You assumed there was just more storage back there, but nobody cared enough to look back there, anyway. The focus was to get out of this place and get to safety.
“C’mon,” you nodded your head toward the other metal door that you assumed would lead to the exit, “let’s keep going.”
As Seungcheol went for the door, you and your friends heard banging. You all paused, Seungcheol’s hand on the handle. You listened for the banging again, and then looked to where it seemed to be coming from.
“Guys?” Joshua’s voice called from behind the small wooden door. “Guys?! Oh my god, guys! C-can you hear me? Hello?! Help me!”
“Josh?” Jeonghan took a step toward the door.

“Joshua!” you cried as you ran to the small door.
You knew what your eyes saw, but was it possible none of it was real? How else would you be hearing Joshua’s voice? He must’ve been alive somehow. Anything seemed possible at this point.
You got down on your knees, opened the small door, and crawled your way through. You stood up as your friends tried to get in behind you, but what you saw made your heart fall into your stomach as your hands went to cover your mouth, muffling the loud sob that came out.
Joshua’s body was slumped against the left wall, looking just as you had remembered.
He was still dead.
Your friends had similar reactions to you. Seokmin even threw up.
Seungcheol shook his head slowly, eyes full of tears while some streaked his cheeks, “We... W-we have to bring his body...”
“He’s right,” Jihoon said solemnly -- his body seemed to be shutting down now, almost uncapable of processing his emotions. “We need evidence of what happened tonight. Nobody will believe us otherwise.”
“I-I hate to say it, b-but...it’ll s-slow us down, though,” Wonwoo interjected through his sniffles. “What if we don’t make it out?”

You quickly reached out and grabbed Jeonghan to keep him from going any closer to that door. He turned to look at you, a pained expression on his face.
“Jeonghan, that’s not Joshua,” you told him. “You saw what happened to him. Whatever it is, it’s not him.”
“I think _____’s right,” Wonwoo nodded. “We need to keep going.”
You kept your hold on Jeonghan as all of your began filing out of the mascot room into another narrow corridor like the other one. This one, though, had a sharp right turn before leading down a while to another steel door.
But this door didn’t budge.
Soonyoung was at the head of the group, and he groaned in frustration as he tugged at the handle over and over again, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me; what’s with these doors?!”
You started to hear a thumping. It slowly got louder and louder...
...Or maybe it was closer and closer.
Junhui walked down the way you’d come and poked his head around the corner, his eyes widening at what he saw. He whipped his head back around and booked it straight back to where your group was trying to open the door, calling, “You might wanna hurry up on that door!”
Coming down the hall were all four animatronics, their eyes lit up as they stomped closer and closer.
“It’s not doing anything!” Soonyoung huffed, trying with all his might to open the door. “Mingyu, get up here!”
Mingyu squeezed between bodies to get to the door, trying to open it as the group just shouted for him to be faster.
“We might have to just...face these things,” Chan said. “Once and for all.”
“Yeah? How?” Wonwoo scoffed. “They’ll crush us in seconds.”
“There’s fou-- thirteen of us, and four of them. We might have a shot.”
“Well hurry up and decide so we can at least put the strongest up against them first,” Junhui called.

“We can’t just leave him here,” you stated. “Not only for the evidence, but because he doesn’t deserve to rot away here. His family doesn’t deserve to wonder what happened to him.”
“I’ll grab him,” Seungcheol offered, swallowing his fears and stepping forward to scoop up his friend. “Let’s get him home.”
Chan was the last into the tiny room, so he turned to go. But the wooden door was suddenly closed and wouldn’t open back up.
“What the hell?!” he grunted as he continued to try the door.
“Why’d you let it close, dumbass?!” Jeonghan demanded.
“I didn’t!” Chan shouted back. “It was just open!”
“Ugh, leave it to the fucking baby to--”
“G-guys?” Seokmin asked.
“Can you get off my fucking case?!” Chan huffed as he stood up and went to stand toe-to-toe with Jeonghan. “You’re always such a fucking asshole to me! Why can’t you--”
“Guys?” Seokmin tried again, looking between the left and right walls.
“Are you two really going to argue right now?” Jihoon groaned. “We’re literally--”
“Guys!” Seokmin finally shouted over everyone. “The walls!”
“What about the--”
Jihoon’s question died down as soon as all of you began looking at the walls. They were moving in toward each other, which would crush all of you between them.
Everyone was suddenly in a panic. Everyone was throwing themselves at the door, trying to tug it open before the walls could do anything. Some of you -- such as you and Wonwoo -- decided to spread out so you had more room. But some -- like Jeonghan and Chan, who grouped up by the door with a few others -- created a big human-lump that would be crushed faster. You heard their cries and pleas before they were crushed to death with a sound you couldn’t get out of your ears.
It was only a moment later you met the same fate.

"Nobody wants to be the asshole that says it’s better to leave him behind, but...” you trailed off.
Wonwoo was right. Joshua would more than likely slow you down. Besides, you knew Josh would want all of you to have the best chance of getting out alive as possible.
“Th-then you go ahead,” Seokmin spoke up, almost like he was afraid to.
“What?” Jihoon asked.
“I...” Seokmin looked at Joshua as more tears welled in his eyes. “It makes me sad to think he’d just be down here alone. I don’t care if he’s...gone. He can’t just stay down here.”
“I’m not leaving my best friend down here,” Jeonghan agreed.
“Seokmin, he’s--”
“Look, just go,” Hansol interrupted whatever Jihoon was going to say. “I’ll help them with the body. You guys just go on ahead.”
Minus the three who wanted to collect Joshua’s body, the group turned and left the small room and went back to the mascot room. Soonyoung tugged on the metal door and led the way down another corridor that looked exactly the same as the one that had led into the mascot room. This one, though, had a sharp right turn before leading down a while to another steel door.
But as you were walking down the hallway, you heard the yells and screams of your three friends. All of you turned on a dime and ran back toward the mascot room but the metal door was already closed and wouldn’t re-open for some reason. All of you were yelling and trying to open the door until you heard a sickening crunch, and then silence.
You all fell silent. You didn’t know what to do now.
“We--” Jihoon’s voice cracked so he cleared his throat. “We should just...keep going...”
Following behind Jihoon, you all turned one by one and went back down the hallway. You turned the corner and walked down that long hallway toward another metal door.
But this door didn’t budge.
Jihoon groaned in frustration as he tugged at the handle over and over again, “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me; what’s with these doors?!”
You started to hear a thumping. It slowly got louder and louder...

“Mingyu, keep trying the door!” you called to him. “We’ll try to hold them back.”
“We?!” Seungkwan repeated.
Mingyu continued to try to pull the door open as the animatronics slowly turned the corner and began walking toward the nine of you. You weren’t sure how to prepare yourself for this at all, but you knew you couldn’t just turn your back and die.
But you should’ve known what would happen. Four giant machines up against eight fleshy humans who were nowhere near as strong. Sure, all of you were faster than them, but how could you dodge or run in such a narrow hallway? You were doomed from the start.
Well, not you specifically.
Seungcheol had shoved you to the back toward Mingyu, promising to keep you safe. So your friends all died in front of you, and all you could do was stand there and watch in horror.
That’s when Bongbong closed in on you.
“I got the--!”
Mingyu’s exclamation of finally getting the door open was cut off by Bongbong’s arm swinging out and clotheslining him into the wall and cutting off his oxygen.
The attack that was meant for you, but you had ducked underneath.
The light flooded into the corridor, and just like that, the animatronics just shut down. The light turned off in their eyes, and they were frozen with their hands reaching out for you.
Except Bongbong’s arm that was now frozen in place, keeping Mingyu strangled against the wall.
You could hear Mingyu gasping for air as you slowly opened your eyes that you’d squeezed shut when you ducked. You looked up and saw the animatronics were lifeless now, and then you shot up and turned to try to help Mingyu. You pulled and pulled on Bongbong’s arm while you had to watch Mingyu slowly die. It was like watching a movie in slow motion, the way his body went limp and the life drained from his eyes. Still, you stood there and sobbed and told him you’d free him as you continued to pull uselessly at the animatronic.
When it finally set in that you didn’t stand a chance, you ran out the back parking lot where the door opened to. You ran out of the park and to your car -- which was still parked near the other 3 that belonged to your friends that were no longer with you -- and drove off toward home with tears still streaming down your face.
The clock on your car radio said 6:08am.

“The door’s useless!” you cried. “We’re not going to just turn our backs and die. That’s not how I wanna go out.”
Nobody had any faith, but they knew you were right. Laying down and dying after all of this wasn’t worth it. If you died, at least you would die fighting.
But you should’ve known what would happen. Four giant machines up against nine fleshy humans who were nowhere near as strong. Sure, all of you were faster than them, but how could you dodge or run in such a narrow hallway? You were doomed from the start.

“The door will work!” you swore “Like the basement, remember? Just keep trying!”
Sure, this was different in the way that you had to pull and not push, but it had to give eventually, right?
You continued to face the animatronics that were now starting to close in on all of you. Seungcheol tried to squeeze in besided Mingyu, grabbing the handle and pulling with him. Jihoon crawled between Mingyu’s legs and stood in between the taller boy’s arms, both of his hands wrapped around the handle and tugging with everything he had.
You moved to put yourself in front of your friends. You got all of them into this mess, so you deserved to be the first to die.
As Bongbong closed in on you, you closed your eyes.
“_____--!”
The darkness you saw behind your eyelids suddenly seemed brighter, and you felt a gust of wind from behind you.
There was a couple seconds of silence.
“Holy shit,” Minghao breathed.
You opened one eye just enough to see Bongbong’s face just inches from yours. But...why were the lights in its eyes off?
You opened your eye wider. Then the other one. Its arm was only a hair away from you, but it made no move to actually touch you. There was also light flooding into the corridor from behind you. You whipped your head around to see the door was open, and you looked back at four animatronics. Were they off now?
“Oh my god,” you sighed in a shaky voice, taking a step backward toward the door.
“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Wonwoo said as he grabbed your hand and all but dragged you out the door.
The door opened to the back of the parking lot. All of you ran as fast as you could toward your cars, only stopping at the hood of the closest one to catch your breath. Seungcheol pulled out his phone.
“It’s 6am,” he reported.
“Maybe that’s why the door didn’t open,” Wonwoo panted, hands on his knees.
“I don’t care to speculate,” Jihoon said as he went to get into one of the four cars. “Take me the fuck home.”

You weren’t sure what to do about the texts from the group chat when you got home. You swore everyone was dead. You watched them die in front of you.
Soonyoung said he was tripping balls the whole night.
Jeonghan agreed, saying he was sure there was something in the air making them hallucinate.
Even Jihoon was saying something weird had happened that night, because he thought he saw everyone die.
So...maybe they were right?
But when you inevitably went to school Halloween day, something didn’t seem right. Maybe it was because you hadn’t slept all night and you were drained in every sense, or maybe it was because you were convinced all of your friends had died right before your very eyes, but everything felt...off. At least, your friends did. It was their smiles and their voices and their hugs and laughs and promises that everything was fine, but something about it seemed alien to you.
Maybe it was from how emotionally and mentally drained you were, and the fact you didn’t get any sleep, but you swore there was an odd glow to their eyes that wasn’t just the glimmer of the florescents.
And why did Junhui wink at you?

(NOTE: i know some people might’ve only had josh die while other had more people die. so this part will mention multiple people who didn’t make it home but i will only mention josh by name. sorry if it seems kind of confusing)
You didn’t even want to go back home after everything that happened. But you needed to shower and change, so you dropped your friends off before going home. After getting out of the shower, you checked your phone. Your heart dropped and your stomach was doing flips at what it saw.
One series of texts was from a group chat that was all of the people you were positive made it home from Caratland. All of them were wondering what the fuck was going on.
The other was the original group chat, with a text from Joshua asking if everyone made it home okay. It made a shiver go down your spine. How could he be texting? He died.
Those that had died started having a conversation about hallucinating, insisting something weird must’ve been in the air to make everyone trip and see things that didn’t actually happen. Nobody knew if it was possible. Minghao suggested that at this point, anything was possible. But still, why did all of you have the same hallucination?
The group decided it was best to ignore the message.
When Wonwoo offered to give you a ride to school, you said yes.
The two of you walked to homeroom together and saw the usual group of your friends sitting at the left side of the classroom. But seeing the friends you thought had died now just sitting there like nothing happened made your skin crawl. You wanted to turn around and walk out.
Wonwoo squeezed your hand and continued forward.
You sat and chatted with the group, and everyone seemed to be dancing around the fact that things were...weird.

“No no put me down, let me at him. Jeno, put me down” you said as you trash around Jeno’s shoulder. How you got there is a repeated story that always starts when you and Haechan are in the same room.
“No, you’re going to hurt someone”
“Yea, I’m going to hurt him. Let me down, stop using your strength on me” you pounded your palms against his back but he just continued walking further away from Renjun who was holding Haechan back from you
“Would it hurt the two of you to just admit you like each other?” you hear Jaemin ask from beside you “Want to get smacked too? for the last time I don’t like him”
Jeno finally put you back down on your feet, the two guys looking at you with a ‘we don’t believe you but we’ll pretend we do’ look
“I don’t!”
“Mhm, sure we’ll go with that” Jeno told you with a smile, his eyes disappearing completely while he does. This time instead of manhandling you, he just threw his arm casually around your shoulder but you know he’s trying to make sure you won’t run back to where Haechan was.
“There’s a very thin line between love and hate” Jaemin mumbled, you looked over at him with a glare making the boy shoot his hands up in surrender.
The chaotic relationship between you and Haechan started with friendly banters, he was a natural joker, the mood maker of the group. You on the other hand, is the exact opposite.
When you exchanged schools, only knowing your cousin Jeno, he was quick to introduce to his group of friends. Ofcourse they were very nice and welcoming, you were on the same year as the four of them: Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin and Haechan. Soon after that you became an honorary member of that group, girls and some guys would sometimes ask favors from you to set them up with the guys. This always made you wonder why, not really understanding the craze other people have over your friends. In your eyes they were pretty normal, at times weird most times too loud.
“Remember that time you threw a tantrum when someone asked you to give Haechan their valentine favor”
You scowled at the memory, last year during valentines one girl came up to you asking you to give Haechan her card and chocolates. You were too shy to say no, so after school was finished and you were all waiting in the parking lot, you all but practically shoved the box of chocolates to Haechan. The rest of the guys cheering but you cut them off by saying it wasn’t from you.
“I did not. I was just not having a great day that day”
“Sure, you should see the look on his face when you said it didn’t come from you” Jeno said making you look over at him “Why? How did he look?” you asked, your curiosity getting the best of  you
“Wouldn’t you like to know” Jaemin teased you
It is true you both get on each other nerves, there’s one little thing that contradicts everything that just came out of your mouth though.
You do like Haechan, more than you will ever care to admit. You’d rather be dead than ever admit you like him. Because at the end of the day, even when you two want to rip each other’s head off, you always end up together somehow.
The next day you were waiting for Jeno to finish his last class since he picked you up this morning, sitting outside on one of the empty benches with book in hand. You were too emerged on your reading material that you didn’t notice the figure now sitting in front of you. Only when you turned the page and craned your neck to stretch it you did you notice the guy sitting across from you,
“What the fuck! How long have you been there?” You asked Haechan, holding your book against your chest. “Long enough to notice how bad your posture is” he answered
“Says the guy who can’t sit or stand straight” you mumbled, closing the book and tucking it away in your bag
“If I were you, I’d be nice to the guy who’ll be driving me home”
“I don’t see Jeno here” you said looking around you, your cousin nowhere in sight. “No stupid, he has basketball practice. He asked me to drive you home”
You just shot him a blank look, for a couple of seconds he just shot you the same look before standing up
“Have it your way, I can just leave you here” then started to walk towards the parking lot. Scowling at his retreating figure, you quickly threw your bag over your shoulder following Haechan’s steps.
He can already hear your hurried steps, a faint smile forming on his lips but he quickly shook it away. Acting nonchalant when you finally caught up with him,
“No, you won’t. Jeno will have your ass if leave me”
“No, he won’t”
“Oh yea my bad, you don’t have an ass” he looked over at you, tongue poking the inside of his cheek. Silently daring you to repeat what you just said, so just send him a big sarcastic smile
“Watch it, babe. Don’t bite what you can’t chew”
“I don’t even know what that means, but let’s just pretend I do for your sake” You pat him on the shoulder before walking ahead. For awhile, neither of you said anything. A random playlist was playing while Haechan hums along, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.
“Hyuck”
Haechan looked quickly over at you, your attention was focused on the scenery outside. If he could, he would look at you a little bit longer but he didn’t to be too obvious and that would be dangerous. So he just hummed as an answer,
“huh?” you asked, looking over at him
“What?”
“What do you mean what?”
“You called my name?”
“Oh I was just thinking about it, I didn’t know I said it outloud” you mumbled, you really didn’t mean to say it outloud. You were just looking out the sunset, it reminded you of his nickname which then made you think of his name.
“You were thinking about me?” he chuckled
“I’d rather not comment on that” then it was silent again, thankful that he didn’t push it any further.
“Want to grab something to eat?” he asked, this made you look over at him “I heard there’s this new café in town” he added.
“Tell me the truth, can you read minds?” you asked him, you were just thinking about that too. You were planning to go later today after he dropped you off, maybe ask Jeno to come with after his practice but it makes more sense to just go now. You just didn’t expect Haechan to ask you
“Only yours” he said with a smirk, sending you quick side eye. You rolled your eyes at him, “Can we go though?” you asked
And that is how you find yourself at the new café with your frenemy and kind of crush, Lee Haechan. You happily entered the place, taking in the smell of coffee and cake in the air,
“Are you a dog? Stop sniffing” You hear Haechan say from behind you “Can’t help it, it smells so good. Oh my god is that chocolate cake” your attention was already on the rows of cake displayed. Completely missing the fond look on Haechan’s face as he watch you excitedly look at the snacks.
He won’t say it but he finds it so adorable how happy you get with just the little simple stuff.
“Do you want that? What do you want to drink?”
“Vanilla latte for me” you smiled up at him, for a second Haechan forgot how to breath forgot how to act around you. You were smiling so genuinely at him he wasn’t sure what to feel.
“How about you?”
“Will you eat all the cake again or will you actually share it this time?” he asked back, dismissing his previous thoughts before you notice anything weird happening.
“I don’t recall doing such thing”
“Mhm sure, sweetheart. I have three other guys as witnesses” you scowled at him before turning back to the cake
Haechan ordered your drinks and cake while you sat outside and wait for him, you offered to split the bill but he just pushed you towards the door when you tried to pay for your food. Like he literally pushed you out
“Wipe that pout off, here’s your cake” at the sound of his voice, you put your phone down and smiled up at him. Well more at the plate of food he was holding
“Have I told you you’re my favorite?” you teased him, making the boy chuckle at you. You were already diving into the snack, happily swaying one hand in the air.
“I’m starting to think you only like me when I give you food”
“You’re thinking right” you answered straight away to tease him, chuckling when you felt him lightly kick you under the table.
Later that day when you were finally home and was doing some homework, Jeno came over to check on you
“You made it home in one piece, that could only mean Haechan didn’t”
“Can’t say he will be missed” you replied, not even bothering to look up
“You will though” this made you glare up at your cousin, “Why are you here again?”
“Oh right, well me and the guys plus a couple of other friends are going out of town this weekend, want to come with us?”
“When, where and who?”
“The guys, girls on some of our classes and Mark hyung is coming too. We’re renting a house with a pool, it looks really cool and we’ll stay there from Saturday til Sunday afternoon maybe”
You contemplated whether you wanted to come or not, it did sound fun. Plus you feel like you do need the time off anyways.
Tumblr media
“I thought you hated each other” Jaemin said, looking between you and Haechan who is sporting the same look of boredom and annoyance. It’s currently 4am, kind of freezing outside and the guys are still loading the car with stuff.
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed” Renjun added, that earned a glare from Haechan and you.
“Who else are we waiting for?” You grumbled, you wanted to get in the car and get some more sleep. Almost regretting ever agreeing to come to this trip, you felt a tug on your jacket sleeve. Looking over at Haechan who was holding out his coffee to you, you just shook your head at him. You liked drinking coffee, but  iced americano is not something you’d ever opt to order
“The girls are meeting us there, they said” Jeno answered you
“So who’s going in whose car?” Renjun asked, looking around the group
“Who’s driving again?” you asked, “Jeno and Haechan”
You looked over at the boy leaning beside you, “You’re driving? You look like you’re about to pass out”
“That’s why I’m drinking this”
“I’ll go wherever I can sleep for the duration of this trip”  Jaemin said, already walking towards Jeno’s jeep getting in the passenger seat.
“How about you?” Jeno asked you, “I’m with Jaemin, I don’t really care as long as I can sleep some more”
“Backseat is still pretty spacious, make yourself comfortable” he said then opened the car door for you, doing exactly what your cousin just said.
“I thought you were going with Haechan” Jaemin said from the front seat, “Don’t start with me right now, let me sleep then you can bug me about him later”
The rest of the trip you were sleeping soundly at the backseat, the two boys talking amongst themselves. It was a four hour car ride so by the time you got to the vacation house it’s still too early for lunch.
“Who wants to go to the grocery with me?” Jaemin asked, Renjun saying he’ll come with and pulling Haechan along with him
Hours later when they got back and finished unloading all the food for the weekend, you were just lounging around. Some of the guys were by the pool while you were in the lounge area with Jaemin and Jisung when Jeno and Haechan showed up. You were happily snacking on some cookies you when Haechan spotted you, Jeno immediately noticing Haechan’s gaze on you and the cookies you were holding
“Please tell me you you’re not going to fight over cookies”
“Will that make you happy?” Haechan asked his friend to which Jeno nodded as an answer, “Too bad then, give me back my cookies” Haechan turned his attention back to you, reaching out to grab the bag of treats
“I don’t see your name written here, plus I was the one who told Jaemin to get it at the grocery store”
“I went with him to the grocery store”
“Should’ve bought your own cookies then”
“I did! Those are mine”
The two of you were too busy arguing to notice the other guys have left the room to join the others outside, leaving you and Haechan alone in the lounge area. You sat on the opposite sides of the big couch, just chilling when Haechan walked in demanding to give his cookies back
“I’ll give you five seconds to give it back”
“Oooh I’m so scared”
“5, 4, 3” just as you were about to take another cookie from the bag, you feel his hand clamp around your ankle then pulling you towards the other side of the couch where he was sitting.
Now your legs are draped on his lap while his arms rest on them, “You said 5!”
Haechan just glared at you before snatching the bag out of your hands and taking some cookies for himself
“Leave some for me” you said as you try to reach for the bag “No, you already ate half of it”.
You scowled at him until he gave the bag back to you, not even moving from your current position since you are pretty comfortable and the boy don’t seem to mind. Already busy scrolling through his phone,
“Why aren’t you downstairs with the guys? I heard the girls arrived too”
“Too tired”
“I heard Yeji came today”
“Mhm”
“You know she gave you those chocolates last year for valentines, right?”
“Like you would ever let me forget” he was still scrolling through his phone, one hand resting on top of your legs comfortably. If any of the boys walk in on you know they’d probably shoot you weird looks but when it’s just the two of you, you don’t really fight like cats and dogs.
“Don’t you like, like her back atleast?”
“Why?”
“I mean she said she liked you, don’t you think it’s a bit mean to not talk to her after that. Plus,. I think she came so she could spend some time with you and yet here you are hiding away”
“Well maybe I like spending time with you”
You looked at him like he told you the most ridiculous and confusing fact, Haechan looking over at you when you didn’t reply back to him
“What’s that look for?”
“Who are you and what have you done to Haechan?” You asked, leaning over to put a hand over his forehead. He just chuckled at you, swatting your hand away
“I just got the chills when you said that”
“Like the good kind of chills?” he teased, “No, the kind that’s making me want to throw up kind of chills” you sarcastically replied
He scowled at you, pushing your legs off of him before standing up. “You know, it’s not that hard to just admit it”
“Admit what?”
“That you actually like hanging out with me”
“I never said I didn’t, even if you get on my last nerves”
“I like keeping you on your toes, baby. I’ll be outside if you miss me” he winked at you then walked out the lounge area.
What just happened? Was he flirting with you? Did he know? You thought to yourself.
And boy does he love getting on your last nerve. You will never assume that he’s doing thing on purpose just to piss you off, but after your conversation with him he’s been talking more to Yeji the whole day.
He’s naturally friendly and affectionate, no one can argue that. And it’s not like you have a right to be jealous, your pride is too high to admit Jaemin’s actually right.
You do like Haechan.
So what do you do? you mope around without meaning to, the boiys noticing your change in mood throughout the night.
You were just standing beside Jaemin as he grill the meat for dinner, not really saying much
“You’re going to burn holes to the ground if you keep staring at it like that” Jaemin said as he look over at your brooding figure
“Let me be, I don’t any place else to be”
“Uh how about hanging out with our friends”
“Your friends” you mumbled making Jaemin laugh at you, “Oh my god, I cannot with you. If it bother’s you this much, just admit it already. It will save us both the time and emotional stress”
“Hiw are you getting stressed, I’m literally not even saying anything here” you told him, lightly hitting him on the back.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the garden area, Haechan was watching you and Jaemin. Not in a creepy way though. He just happen to notice you’ve been missing, only to find you standing by the grill with his bestfriend
“Yah Jeno, is there something going on with Y/N and Jaemin?” Haechan can’t help but ask when Jaemin laughed at something you just said
“Huh?”
“I mean they always hang out”
“Yea, well they’re friends” Jeno shrugged, “We’re friends too” Haechan grumbled, taking a big gulp of the drink Jeno just put on the table
“Are you perhaps jealous of the two?” Jeno asked, “Absolutely not, I was just asking”
“Well, don’t tell Jaemin I told you this but I think he’s going to ask her out this weekend” that was a complete and total lie, he only said that to push Haechan to finally do something. And judging by the way he’s now practically glaring over your make makes Jeno think he did the right thing.
“I heard you even went out on a date with him” Jaemin said, making you look at him with confusion
“Huh? When?” “The other day when he had an emergency practice”
“We just went to the cafe, it wasn’t a date”
“Right, right. Because that’s how you spend time with a person you don’t like”
“I don’t don’t like him”
“So you like him?”
“If i say yes will you stop?”
“I-” “Say yes to what?” Someone said from behind you, making Jaemin stop his sentence.
Haechan looked back and forth between you and Jaemin, while Jeno looked like he was about to laugh.
“Nothing” you answered quickly before Jaemin could utter another word, then skipped away to where the others were. Jeno was shooting his bestfriend with the ‘just go with it’ expression before Haechan catches on
“What was that about?” Haechan asked, “Oh I was just asking her something” Jaemin answered with a cheeky smile
He couldn’t have asked her already, right? Haechan thought. As the night went on, he can’t help but notice how you were obviously avoiding him. You looked like you were enjoying yourself when the guys invited you to play beerpong with them while this time he’s the one moping around.
When you went inside to get something from the kitchen, Haechan immediately shoot up from his seat to follow you. Itching to ask you if Jaemin asked you out or not.
“You think he’ll ask her out?” Jeno asked as he watch Haechan follow you, “Huh? Haechan? Why what did you tell him?” Jaemin asked back
“That you were going to ask Y/N out”
“Bro what the fuck, he’s going to kill me if I do”
You on the other hand had no idea about this, so when Haechan cornered you in the kitchen suffice to say you were pretty shocked,
“Did you say yes to Jaemin?” he asked
“Say yes to what?”
“Didn’t he ask you out?”
“Huh?” you asked confused, Jaemin definitely did not ask you out. You know for a fact that he’s currently crushing on the new girl, Yoo Jimin.
“No?”
“Are you not sure or you just don’t want to tell me”
“I’m so confused, one why would Jaemin ask me out and two why would I not want to tell you?” You asked, geniunely confused with him. “Because”
“Because?” you urged for him to continue
“God! You’re really going to make me say it first will you?” he sounded so frustrated you almost laughed, “I don’t know what you want to say Haechan, but please go ahead because like I said I’m very confused right now”
It took him approximately five seconds to think about his next actions, he counted up to three in his head before saying screw it then the next thing he know he was grabbing you by the waist, his lips on yours.
You definitely did not expect that this is how your weekend will turn out, and you most definitely not think you would end up kissing Haechan. But here you were, trapped between the counter and him. His arms secured around your frame while your hands were resting on his arms.
It’s like your mind and body were to separate entities, not one part of a single body because in your mind you were freaking out but your body was acting like this was how it was supposed to be all along.
When the two of you eventually had to come up for air, you can’t help but stare at him
“What was that?” you whispered, his forehead resting on yours
“Me shooting my shot”
Then you were laughing, Haechan looked at you like you just lost your mind
“You know this is the part where you say it worked”
“I- wait hold up. You like me?” you asked him, “You liked me first!” he screeched, pointing a finger at himself
“Says who?”
“Says your cousin, then Jaemin and Renjun. Then you” You made a mental note to hit those three guys later
“Me? Just the other day I almost punched you in the face. If that was your indication of me liking you then you’re really messed up in the head”
“So you’re saying you don’t like me?” he asked, this time with a more serious look on his face.
“I could neither confirm nor deny” you answered, trying to rile him up even more. You already know the answer, but it was nice to see Haechan like this.
“You know in my head, this wasn’t how I imagined this moment would turn out”
“Oh so you imagined kissing me” he smirked you, “As much you imagined kissing me” you retorted back, you had him there.
“And?”
“A bit underwhelming, not gonna lie”
That made Haechan do the thing you think is so attractive but never told a single soul because it was your secret, it’s when he pokes the inside of his cheeks with his tongue whenever he’s annoyed or things don’t go his way.
“Are you saying I’m not a good kisser?”
“I’m saying it could be better” you shrugged, enjoying your new found power over him. It was short lived though because the next thing you know you were thrown over his shoulder then he was walking back out the patio.
“Yah, Haechan don’t hurt her. I need to bring her back in one piece” you hear Jeno say
“Sure, but it’s fine if she’s a bit wet right?”
“What?” you screamed then you were thrown in the pool, quickly resurfacing to the surface to see Haechan smirking at you. Instead of saying anything you just swam towards the ledge, hoisting yourself out the pool.
“You look like you need a hug” you shot him a wicked smile as you walk towards him, you can hear cheers and laughter coming from your friends
“No thank you, baby. Maybe later”
“Come here”
“Don’t want to”
“No more kisses for you. 3 2″ then you were back in the pool again but this time Haechan was in there with you. Laughing as you watch him shake his hair out of his face,
“Stop laughing you look like a wet dog” he said as he swam towards you, arms snaking your waist once again. As his lips close on your once again, you can’t help but smile. You’re pretty sure you heard your friends scream but all of that was background noise, it’s just you and him now.
“How about that? Am I a good kisser now?”
“I don’t know, maybe try again”
