     Ex-wife.
Bucky’s words echoed in your ears as he didn’t dare to look at you.
    His ex-wife was threatening you.
And he didn’t think to mention her? Ever?
“Can I please explain?” Bucky croaked finally, voice sounding broken as you shrugged your shoulders — in a state of shock.
That was all he needed before he recounted his previous relationship with the woman who was now sending you threatening emails.
Married young, too young and too fast and it ended up blowing up in their faces.
Well, clearly she hadn’t gotten over it.
“I thought I lost her,” he explains. “I thought that moving halfway across the country would be enough.”
You finally looked up to meet his eyes, glossy, sad and terrified as you sniffled.
“There’s a reason only Tasha calls me James.”
It broke your heart hearing that, the way his head hung low and he nearly winced at the sound of his own goddamn name.
But you didn’t know who to trust anymore.
Bucky always glossed over how he, Sam, and Nat knew each other — telling you that they were old friends that go back.
    How far back?
You needed to know, but clearly you weren’t about to get answers from him.
“Buck,” he stopped you, taking a step closer as his eyes begged and pleaded you not to finish your sentence.
“I can’t,” he shook his head, “I need some time.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to say those words that would shatter both of your world’s. But you had no idea what the hell you had gotten yourself into and you needed answers.
And you knew exactly who to go to for them.
“I understand,” Bucky sighed. “I’ll stay at Sam’s for some time, okay?”
You could only nod your head, watching him walk past you and into his door.
Then he shut it, something he never did because his door was always open for you. No matter what you needed and no matter what time of day it was.
    It felt...wrong.
But you couldn’t dwell on it, grabbing your keys, phone, and whatever other important things you could think of being you nearly bolted out of the front     door.
You plugged your headphones into your phone, hitting shuffle and descending down into the subway.
The entire ride made you anxious, slowly approaching your stop and you were way out of place in this crowd.
People rushed by you in expensive suits and what you could only guess were the infamous red-soled shoes that were worth close to your monthly rent, if not more.
You cringed, thinking of the man you were about to see in his stupidly tall office building that you had to crane your neck at an uncomfortable angle just     to get a look at.
The elevator could not have taken longer, tapping your foot impatiently as you rode up to what felt like the heavens before the doors opened to revel smooth wooden doors that reach from the ceiling to the floor.
You were so close, before you were stopped.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry, you can’t be here right now.” A man’s voice stopped you, dressed in a security guard uniform and oh, this was so him.
“I know him,” you said, intent on seeing the man probably sitting behind those large doors.
“I’m sorry, I can’t let you do th—”
“It’s okay, Marv. I know her,” his voice came not from behind the doors, but from the long hallway to your left.
The security guard, Marv, nodded his head as he looked at you once more before retreating back to where he was leaning against one of the walls.
“This is a surprise,” you rolled your eyes, “Tony, please. I don’t wanna hear it.”
He walked over to you, embracing you in a hug, “oh c’mon, I’ve missed you, Kid.”
You shook your head, “I haven’t been a kid in years,” you tried to remind him, but it was Tony, he wasn’t going to listen as he just laughed it off and welcomed you into his office.
It was much different from last time, all new furniture and appliances, but nothing lasted more than a year with Tony.
Tony was an old friend, sort of.
He was an old friend of your father’s, something like an uncle, but also like your older brother.
So just one giant pain in your ass.
“So,” Tony sighed. “What trouble did you get into this time, Kid?”
    You told Tony everything.
From being roommates with Bucky to the way he asked you to be his fake girlfriend to Sam’s wedding and all the way to the situation you were in now. Confronted by his ex-wife without any idea of what she was going to do.
Tony had that look on his face. The one where he was going to tell you that you were crazy.
“I don’t know how you manage to get yourself into these situations,” he chuckled, hand clamping over your shoulder as he walked around his desk and typed something into his computer.
“Last name is,” he looked at you. “Barnes.”
He nodded his head, typing away at his computer again before he stopped.
There was a brief moment of silence, Tony hiding behind the computer screen before he stood up and walked back around the desk, “I’m gonna need some time.”
You understood, shaking your head. You were asking Tony to hack into any known database and collect as much data on Bucky as you could. It was wrong, but you just needed to know who you were dealing with.
“Thank you, Tony. I-I really appreciate it.” You weren’t good when it came to...well, the heartfelt side of things but luckily neither was Tony.
“Don’t get sappy on me now, Kid. You know it makes me sick,” he joked playfully, smile on his lips as you stood up to give him a half hug.
“I’ll call you as soon as I know anything.” He promised before you walked out of the too-tall building with far more questions than you came with.
It was a waiting game that you didn’t want to play, but you didn’t have a choice.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
It seemed like your relationship with Bucky was doomed from the start.
Friends to lovers rarely, if ever, works out in anyone’s favour.
The fake dating trope you could handle, pushing your feelings aside to help Bucky win a bet didn’t seem like the worst thing in the world. You had a great time, great fucking sex, and a trip out of it.
Then Steve wouldn’t leave the picture. Going as far as coming to the wedding as Natasha’s boyfriend to spite you not realizing that you and Bucky had gotten married.
    Married.
You and Bucky were married. Bonded in a whole other way and now, his ex-wife was out for you and him.
Maybe this was a sign from the universe, a big red fucking flag telling you that it wasn’t worth it and yet...you couldn’t let go.
The apartment felt empty without Bucky, his bedroom left the way it was in the morning with your favourite sweater of his laid out on the covers and a little post-it note on top of it.
You never could really decipher Bucky’s handwriting. It was absolute chicken scratch as you picked it up and managed to make out in case you get cold scribbled onto it.
It was an easy decision to pull it over your head and drown yourself in the scent of Bucky’s cologne as you fiddled with the small gold band you now wore around your neck as a necklace.
You didn’t want anyone other than Bucky. There was no in the world who understood you better. Who knew how to make you laugh when you were having a bad day.
Everything led you right back to Bucky.
So when your phone rang from the other side of the couch, you were secretly hoping it was Bucky.
Instead, Tony’s name flashed and your heart sank into your stomach as you quickly hit answer and held the phone up to your ear.
“You’re not gonna like this, Kid.” Tony’s voice flowed through the speakers as you took a shaky breath in and braced yourself for what Tony was about to tell you.
“He did a damn good job at erasing his history, but you can’t erase all of it,” Tony chuckled as you rolled your eyes, “quit stalling.”
He sighed, “the Howling Commandos was an organization tasked with,” he paused, “tasked with collecting intel and making sure that information never got released to the public.”
This time, it was your turn to fall silent.
“Like, spies?” You asked and Tony hummed, “sort of.”
    “They had spies, agents, hit-men.”
No. You shook your head, no.
“James Buchanan Barnes was their highest ranking hit-man. Him, along with Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanova worked as a team. A spy, agent, hit-man trio.”
You had to shake yourself out of spiralling, what you needed was everything Tony could possible tell you.
“Anything on his ex-wife?” You then asked and heard shuffling on the other line, “not much. Mary Barnes, but I doubt that’s her real name, was part of a training initiative the Howling Commandos were testing.”
You bit your lip, at least you had a name, even if it wasn’t her real name.
“By that point it looks like James—”
    “Bucky. His name is Bucky.”
Tony cleared his throat after a moment’s silence, “Bucky looks like he had disappeared. Blipped off of the face of the Earth. There’s nothing in his file after 2014.”
That makes sense. Bucky was perhaps the most old-fashioned man you knew, only upgrading from his flip-phone just a few years ago. He barely knew how to unlock it, though.
“Sam and Natasha went on to live normal lives, Kid. I’m sure that’s all Bucky wants.” Tony tries to assure you and you laugh, “you sound like my dad.”
He laughed on the other line, “oh gross.”
“Thanks for everything, Tony.” You said, “you know what number to call in case you’re in trouble.”
With that, you both hung up, tossing your phone away from you to digest everything you’d just been told. You knew you had to talk to Bucky, but you didn’t know when.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
“So you’re tellin’ me,” Sam was confused. “That this is the same Mary that tried to get you killed?”
Bucky rolled his eyes, taking another swing of his beer as he rounded Sam’s kitchen island.
“That’s the one, you know, the undercover agent working for Strucker.” Bucky scowled at the name.
He was angry, beyond angry at the fact that his past was creeping up on him despite how far he had gone to erase it.
“But why now? Why come after you now?” Sam poses the question that even Bucky doesn’t have an answer to. So he just shrugs his shoulders and finishes off his beer.
    “Unfinished business.”
They stand in silence for a little while longer, listening to the old ticking clock hanging on the wall before Sam takes a step towards Bucky.
“Whatever you need, you know that Tasha and I are here for you, right?” He whispers and Bucky feels the warmth blooming in his chest as he gives him a half-smile.
“Yeah,” he nods his head, “thanks, man.”
Sam knows that Bucky was never really good at the sappy shit, so he doesn’t force it. Instead, he offers him another beer, bottle necks clinking as Bucky’s thoughts race.
    He was worried.
Not about himself, but about you.
And you were worried about Bucky, curling up in his bed as you sighed and tossed and turned. There was no way you’d be able to fall asleep alone tonight. And hugging his pillow just wasn’t enough.
So you grabbed your phone, hitting his name and waiting for the ringing to sound before he picked up — tired and groggy.
“We need to talk.” You didn’t give him a chance to greet you. He sighed on the other line, but hummed in agreement, “tomorrow?”
You hummed in response to his question, the sound of his voice soothing as you played with the sheets of his bed.
“I miss you, Sweets.” Bucky whispered, your breathing hitching at how low and raspy his voice really was.
“I miss you too, Bucky.” You admitted, shifting as you got comfortable on the pile of pillows against your head.
There was a moment of silence before Bucky spoke again.
“You know what ‘m really missin’ right now?” His words sent a shiver down your spine as you shakily inhaled, “what?”
Bucky sighed, reminiscent of how he sighs when he runs his hands all over your body.
“I miss that sweet cunt of yours.” Bucky purrs, you know he’s smirking, possibly even dragging his tongue across his bottom lip as he closes his eyes to imagine you under him.
You’re at a loss for words, feeling your panties grow damp, core aching and you’re going to have to touch yourself soon. But that’s all part of Bucky’s plan, you think.
“Here I am, all alone, with my hand wrapped ‘round my cock,” he whispers, but you can hear him stroking himself.
“And all I can think ‘bout is that way your tight little pussy grips me and milks my fuckin’ dick, baby.” Bucky was always so good with his words, knowing exactly what to say to make you melt.
And it was working, because you were a squirming mess in his bed.
“Well,” you could tell he was smirking by his tone, “what’re ya waitin’ for, Sweets. Go on, touch yourself. I wanna hear you work your clit.”
Your hand flew under your panties, being given the permission only made it sweeter as your fingers came in contact with your soaking folds. The sensitive bundle of nerves needed desperate attention as you slowly circled it.
“Good girl, that’s my girl.” Bucky praised, continuing to work himself.
“God,” he hissed, “can’t wait to have you all to myself again. Bury myself deep, maybe even have you sit on my cock as you beg me to do somethin’.”
You worked yourself a little faster, applying some more pressure as you let out a whine at his words.
“Add two fingers, Sweets. I know how much you love bein’ stretched,” Bucky chuckled deeply, “been thinkin’ of gettin’ you a mould of my fuckin’ dick for when ‘m not home.”
Oh my God. Oh my God that shouldn’t be so fucking hot so why does it make your walls flutter and breathing uneven as you have to stop yourself from actually fucking cumming.
He chuckles again, “yeah, you’d like that, wouldn’t you?”
You can’t verbally respond, too focused on the tight coil in your abdomen that’s ready to snap.
“I know you’re close, can hear it in how fuckin’ desperate you sound,” he pants, “so why don’t you make a mess all over my clean sheets.”
You gasp, how did he know, but you don’t get to dwell on it for much longer than a moment because your orgasm rips through you and leaves you panting Bucky’s name.
Both of your breaths are uneven and ragged through the phone’s speakers, bed springs creaking on Bucky’s side as he hums.
“If only you could see the miss I made for you, Sweets,” you shuddered at his words, closing your eyes to relish in the moment.
“Now get some sleep, okay? I’ll see you tomorrow.” His tone has changed, entirely sweet and caring as you grab the phone to bring him closer to you.
“Okay,” you reply, another lick of silence before you hear Bucky going to end the call but you stop him.
“I love you, Bucky.” You quickly blubber out and it feels good to finally say those words because there’s no more denying how you really feel about him.
    “I love you too, Sweets.”
It’s a bittersweet ending to the phone call, thoughts and emotions running wild as you’re forced to remind yourself that Bucky has a lot of explaining to do.

It was now far later in the morning, meaning the sun had fully risen and it was a much more reasonable hour to be up at. JJ had left a while ago and John B was still peacefully sleeping (and loudly snoring). Y/n hadn’t been able to go to sleep after her talk with the blond boy and she was now sitting on the couch reading her book (actually reading this time). So, when she heard the front door open, she didn’t bother looking up, assuming it was one of her friends. Who else would just come in like that anyway?
"Hey, there’s coffee made in the kitchen if you want any,” she said, still not pulling her gaze of off her book.
“That’s kind of you to offer, but I’ve already had two cups this morning, I don’t think it would be reasonable for me to have more.” Y/n’s book fell to the ground.
“Sheriff Peterkin, I’m so sorry. I-I thought you were someone else-” she got up from her seat, “-do you, do you need anything, water or uh-”
“You don’t have to bother sweetheart, I’m not planning on staying that long. I just want to talk for a bit,” answered the adult.
“Okay,” she took a pause to swallow. “I’ll go get John B.”
“If you don’t mind, I’ll go get him myself.” Y/n nodded, watching as she disappeared into the hallway leading to her brother’s room.
She started pacing around the living room, ferociously biting the nails on her left hand. It wasn’t every day a cop showed up in your house. She had absolutely no idea why Peterkin would want to talk. Actually, she had about 25 different ideas, starting with the fact her uncle hadn’t been on the island for about 3 months. And the party last night, what if she knew about the gun? Would JJ be in trouble? Whatever it was, it wasn’t good, that she was certain of it.
>>
The conversation went on for much longer than expected. Basically, Peterkin knew about their uncle being awol and she offered to help get  dcs off of their back for a while if they helped her in return. She had also mentioned that it wouldn’t be good if they had seen a shipwreck, which of course they denied despite that being actually true. Y/n didn’t fully understand what Peterkin meant. But she knew that it meant there was something valuable in that boat. And Jonh B knew it too. Yet, he was afraid, which was understandable, considering everything. They were pretty much guaranteed to be put in foster care if they got caught. Not good at all.
“You know what? I'm calling it off,” announced John B.
Y/n raised her head from her sketchbook, dropping her pencil on the low table in front of her to listen to what her brother had to say. She had been drawing silently while the other pogues, all sitting in different ridiculous positions across the backyard, talked and did their own things. She was only half listening to what they were saying, sketching messily the outline of the château. It wasn't very good, but it was calming to do. When she heard the seriousness in her brother’s tone, she closed her sketchbook, otherwise she’d be too distracted.
“Peterkin told us that if we stayed out of the marsh, she’d help with dcs.” The girl grimaced remembering the woman’s words.
“And you believed her?” “Yes, JJ I believed her.”
“You really think that she’d help us?” asked y/n. “It’s been more than 6 months, bird. If she really wanted to help, she would have helped earlier, no?”
“Yeah, she’s a cop, an actual cop. And you think she’s telling the truth?” added JJ.
“Look,” John B glanced at y/n. “All we gotta do is stay out of the marsh for a couple days and she’ll help us.”
“I know, I was there.” Kiara snickered softly at her friend’s words. “But I don’t know, I feel like we’re getting tricked or something. What if she’s like trying to lure us out of there-” she gestured to the water behind them, “-because there’s something she doesn’t want us to see, uh? What if it’s about dad?”
J.B rubbed the back of his neck before turning his body slightly to face the ocean. “Look,” he addressed his sister. “I get that you’re curious and you want to know what’s down there, but I'm only trying to do what’s best for us. And I think it would be better if we listened to Peterkin. I’m just trying to keep you safe, to protect you, bug.” His voice softened as he finished his sentence.
“And it didn’t help that JJ was shooting a gun last night!” Y/n raised her eyebrows at Pope, her face clearly showing intrigue. She wondered where this conversation would lead, a fight between the two boys most likely. Her gaze shifted to JJ who seemed annoyed at the Routledge boy’s words.
“You know what, I should’ve let Topper drown your ass.” John B laughed. “Topper was gonna drown me?” “Sure looked like it.”
“Boys can you plea-” Y/n tried to stop the small bickers, miserably failing as her brother interrupted her. “Funny.” A loud sigh escaped the girl’s lips and Kiara beside her pinched the bridge of her nose.
“Have you looked in a mirror?” “Tell me some more. Come on.” “They always win don’t they, man?”
“Kooks versus pogues. They always, always win!” You could hear the frustration dripping from his voice. Which was understandable. He had a point, kooks always won, it was time for a change.
“Goddamn!” “Look, it’s okay!” Kie tried to reassure him. “No, it’s not okay!”
“He’s right,” agreed y/n. “They always win, or find a way to avoid the consequences.”
“Exactly, they don’t want us to go down into the marsh, that means there's something valuable down there and you know it.” He said to John B. “I know you do.”
“And I understand why you wouldn’t want to go,” he pointed to Pope. “You’re the golden boy, you got way too much to risk. And you,” he turned to Kiara. “I mean you’re already rich as fuck anyway.” Okay, that was an exaggeration.
“Why would you bother.”
“But us, you, me and y/n, we’ve got nothing to lose!” His eyes glowed with something y/n hadn’t seen in him in a long time. Hope. It made her sad to think about how JJ really had nothing in his life besides the pogues. But if he was hopeful, then maybe, maybe...
“We really don’t.” “Yes, we do have something to lose.”
“If something goes wrong and dcs comes in, y/n and I would be brought to the mainland in foster care. That means placed with families who probably only care about the check that comes in every month and her and I getting separated from one another and from you guys.”
Y/n thought about what her brother had just said. He had a point, if things went wrong, they could lose everything. Each other mainly and the pogues. It was the worst-case scenario. But if they didn’t get caught, it would make their life so much better. Was it worth all the risk though? That was the question.
“Do you understand what that means? How horrible it would be?” The girl got up from her seat and went to stand next to her brother. “I do,” she said. “I understand, bird.”
“I know that you’re scared and so am I.  It’s a pretty big risk. If we get caught, we’re fucked, but listen to what JJ has to say. I think that it might be worth the risk. And if we do get caught-,” she put her hand on his shoulder and turned him around so that he faced her, “we’ll find a way to find each other again. We’re Routledges, we always find a way to solve our problems, don’t we?” Her hand squeezed his shoulder softly. “We’re gonna be alright, bird.”
A small smile drew itself on John B’s lips. “So, what’s the plan,” he said to JJ.
“You got the key to Cameron’s big boat, right?” “No,” J. B’s face scrunched in disagreement.
“There’s scuba gear. We borrow that and then we go down to the wreck this afternoon and that’s what’s gonna save you, man,” exclaimed JJ. “You don’t see rich kids going into foster care, do you?”
Y/n breathed out loudly. She was scared as hell. This was going to be pretty tricky, but she knew something was down there. And if it wasn’t money or something like that, then it was something related to her dad’s disappearance. She could feel it deep into her soul.
>>>
“This is empty, you took empty tanks,” announced Kiara to the group as she furrowed through the bag of oxygen tanks.
Y/n put her head in her hands. Their plan had seemed so perfect and now they didn’t have the one thing they needed for it to work.
“Okay this one’s a quarter full. It’s enough for one of us.” “Love it when a plan comes together.”
“Does anybody know how to dive?” asked the brunette but only to be answered by a chorus of shrugs and denying nods. “Anybody?”
“It’s kind of a kook sport,” JJ looked at her.
“I, … I read about it,” tried Pope.
“Great, Pope read about it, now someone’s gonna die,” exclaimed Kie dramatically.
“Look.” JJ’s gaze circled the group of friends.  “You put the thing in your mouth and you breathe. How hard can it be?”
“I don’t think it’s that simple,” confessed y/n.
“Yeah,” agreed Pope. “If you come up too fast, Nitrogen gets in your blood and you get the bends.”
The girl’s eyes widened. She remembered a book she had read a while ago where one of the characters had the decompression sickness (and how tragic their death was).
“Bends like bend over?” JJ joked as he bent his body in a way to stick his butt up in the air. Typical JJ joke, weird and somehow always a bit sexual. Y/n slapped his arm as a way to tell him off.
“JJ, the bends is deadly,” she had a stern expression, “it kills you.” “Oh, right.”
“I can- I can dive,” announced J.B. “Yeah, you can dive I’m cool with that.” “Since when can you dive?”
“No, you can’t dive,” scoffed his sister. “I’ll do it, it’s fine.” “What? The hell?”
“Let’s do some calculations real quick.” Pope pulled out a pen and started writing some numbers. Y/n got up from her seat and went to stand beside him. “So, that boat’s about 30 feet down.” “okay.” “So, it’ll take about 25 minutes at most at that depth.” “Twenty-five.” “Which means you need to make your safety stop at about... 10 feet. Alright? For two minutes.” “Ten feet, two minutes got it.”
They all watched as Kiara jumped straight into the water, her shirt already removed. “Uh, what was that all about?” “I don’t know, but I liked it, a lot.” y/n nudged her brother on the shoulder to get him to stop staring. He cleared his throat.
“Uh, so.” “All righty.”
She sat down on the edge of the boat, waiting for her friend to resurface from underwater. “Yeah. Uh, when you- when you’re down there, you look for the cargo hold. You stick this thing inside and you twist and pull, okay,” explained JJ. “Stick it in, twist and pull.”
“You okay?” asked y/n, while the boys kept on rambling. “Needed a swim?” Kiara rolled her eyes, a small smile on her face.
“Hey!” she called to guys, John b more specifically. “I tied my t-shirt to the anchor about ten feet down. It’s where you need to do your safety stop.”
The Routledge girl admired her friend in the water. Her body moving gracefully as she swam back towards the boat. She seemed so, at ease. It used to be that way for her too, but now, even looking into the darkest part of the water gave her a feeling of vertigo. She wondered if she could still swim as good as she used to. It had been almost a year since the last time she had dove right into the marsh. It felt so far away. If only she was braver.
She hadn’t realised she had completely zoned out until she heard JJ speak. “Zen. Think Zen, you know.” She joined the group on the other side of the hms, her brother already suited for his dive.
“Hey, if we get caught out here in the marsh we’re basically screwed, so,” reminded Pope, “better get a move on.” “Copy that.”
Kiara got up and planted a small kiss on J. B’s cheek. Y/n looked at the two boys next to her with a confused expression. They both shrugged in answer, clearly just as confused as she was. “Diver down?” “Diver down.” She watched as his figure disappeared slowly into the water.
“All right.” “See ya, dude.”
She went to sit next to Kie. “I only love him as a brother,” she mocked her friend. “Yeah right, my ass.”
“It’s just a small kiss y/n/n, it doesn’t mean anything. I still mean what I said yesterday. It’s just that,” she took a pause, her eyes squinting at the sun, “I’m just worried for him, you know he’s going through a lot and then there’s the shipwreck and all.”
“Uh huh, I totally get what you mean,” ironized y/n. “Shut up,” Kie nudged her with her elbow. “No, but seriously-” started the girl before being interrupted by the sound of a police siren behind her.
“Shit, guys.” “Guys, that’s the police.”
“Oh no, no, no, no, no, that is not good. Not good at all.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” “Yep that’s the police.” “Just act fricking normal.”
Anxiety bubbled at the pit of y/n’s stomach. Hopefully he wouldn’t recognize her, otherwise she was dead. So dead. She sat down beside Kiara in a somewhat natural position, her legs crossed to keep them from bouncing.
The police boat parked itself beside the hms. Officer Shoupe behind the wheel. “Evenin’ officers,” greeted Pope. “Evening.”
“How you kids doin’ ,” asked Shoupe. “You know the marsh is closed.”
“No.” “No.” “No, wow.” “I didn’t know that.” They all feigned ignorance, hoping to fool the two adults. “Why- why is it closed?” questioned Pope, adjusting his cap nervously.
“Well, we’re conducting a search out here,” informed the man. “Boat went down.” “Oh.” “Oh, no.”
“Seen’ anything?” asked the deputy.
“No.” “No, boats. No.” Y/n’s fingers tapped rhythmically on the boat, trying to keep herself from looking at her brother in the water.
“Where’s your friend you always hang with?” The pace of the rhythm fastened. “He here?” She opened her mouth, trying to think of a good excuse for the missing presence of her brother, but nothing came out.
“He’s working,” lied Kie. All of their heads nodded softly.
“I’m gonna check your little boat out,” announced Shoupe before hopping on the hms. “Yeah.” “Yeah, hop aboard.” The rhythm stopped, y/n’s nails digging into her palms.
He picked up a safety jacket. “You got another one of these?” “Yeah, yeah.”
“Of course, it’s uh, it’s in the hold,” JJ pointed to where the girls were seated. They both got up quickly. “Show him,” instructed Kie. Y/n’s joints were turning white.
“Okay.” JJ opened the hold and pulled out one of the jackets. “Yeah, here we go.” “All right.” The latch closed loudly. Shoupe’s gaze inspected the teens suspiciously. The tension could be cut with a knife.
He climbed on the flat part of the boat. “Be careful.” “Be careful out there, you don’t want to slip.”
He put his sunglasses on, staring at the exact place where John B and the ship were. The pogues exchanged worried glances. Hopefully, he wouldn’t see anything. He stood on the very edge of the boat, his figure towering over the water of the marsh.
“All right,” he finally turned around. Y/n breathed again. “All right.” “All right.”
“Beautiful day, innit?” “Sure is.”
“You let us know if you see anything on your way out,” he ordered as he started the engine. “Will do, will do.”
“We’ll be gone soon, sir.” “Yes, you will,” finally said the man before he vogued away.
Once he was far enough, the group hurried to the side of the boat, all worried about their friend. He’d been under for quite a long time now, there was no way he had any air left.
“He’s definitely out of air,” declared Pope.
At that exact moment, John B surged out of the water. Y/n felt relief take over her body. She felt her whole body unclench and let go of the grip her nails had in her hand.
“There he is!” Exclaimed JJ. “Oh god, Jesus Christ.”
“God damn it, Bird. I’m so glad you’re okay,” spoke y/n.
“Don’t scare us like that!” All of the pogues exclaimed, all so happy that their friend was all right.
“How’d it go down there?” wondered JJ. “Uh,” John b groaned and his sister hurried to the side of the boat to help him get in.
“Did you find anything?”
“Did I find anything?” He repeated throwing a large duffel bag onto the boat.
“Yeah there we go, that’s my boy!” JJ exclaimed excitedly.
“Are you okay?” Y/n asked as he coughed rather loudly. “Yeah, I’m good, but I ran out of air.” Her eyebrows scrunched together on her forehead. God, they were so lucky, what if J.B had ran out of air earlier? Or what if Shoupe had figured out what they were doing? Things could have gotten so bad.
But they didn’t, the girl reminded herself.
“You scared the shit out of me,” confessed Kiara, though it sounded more like a reproach.
“Yeah, same for me,” replied y/n. “Need a hand?” she stuck her hand out at him which he gladly took. The contact of the water with the cuts her nails had made in her hands burned, but she clenched her jaw and ignored the pain. She didn’t want to bother anyone.
“Yeah, the cops were up here but uh, took care of ‘em,” informed Pope.
“My bad.” “You’re all good.” “Yeah, you kinda missed the show, brother.”
“Hey guys?” Kiara’s voice was tinted with worry. “Guys, bogey, two o-clock.”
“What?” They all turned in the direction she was referring to. In the distance they noticed a strange looking boat heading towards them.
“Do you recognize that boat?”
“I’ve never seen it.” Kie put her hand above her eyes to hide herself from the sun. “What are they doing back here? The marsh is closed.”
“Honestly, they could ask us the same thing,” pointed y/n.
“Well, I think it would be better if we didn’t stick around and find out,” said JJ.
“JJ, get the bowline.” “Yeah.”
“Should we wait on ‘em?” asked Pope.
“Uh, I don’t think that would be a great idea,” responded y/n. The boat was coming in very fast and the people driving it looked angry and dangerous. It was much safer to just leave. “Go get the stern, go!” Hurried John B.
The blonde pulled the rope as fast as he possibly could. “Guys, don’t wait for me. Go,” he said. Y/n inspected the unknown boat in the distance, nothing about it seemed familiar. Who could these people be? And what did they want from them? “Let’s go.”
She kept her eyes glued to it as the motor started. “I have a really bad feeling about this,” she confessed, turning her head to John B. behind the wheel. “Yeah, I don’t like this either,” agreed Pope.
“Are they coming for us?” asked JJ. “Sure looks like it.”
“Maybe they’re fishing?” proposed Pope. Y/n’s gaze paused on the two men. They were intimidating, to say the least. And their eyes, both had looks filled with something threatening. It wasn’t anger or hatred, no, it was the eyes of people who would do anything to get what they wanted and that was scary.
“Go, go, go, go!” “Go into the marsh.” “Let’s go!”
“I’m going. Act natural,” stated John B as he directed the hms towards the nearest channel.
The white boat sped up, the motor roaring loudly. “Hey guys, they’re following us,” announced y/n. “Oh, this can’t be good.” “Shit”
“Dude, you gotta go faster!” “I’m going!” “Gun it!”
The sound of a gun shooting in the air echoed in the silence of the marsh. The pogues all went down instinctively. “Holy shit, guys!” “Oh my fucking god, what the fuck!”
JJ grabbed the back of y/n’s shirt with his hand, bringing her closer to him. “John b get down!” almost hissed the girl. Another shot fired, y/n clung onto JJ.
“Oh my god, we’re gonna die!” yelled Pope. A third shot fired. Y/n’s eyes caught the net at the back of the boat and an idea sparked in her head. She looked at Kiara, who clearly had thought of the same thing.
“Pope, move,” ordered the brunette as her friend stood to go grab the green net. Another shot flew into the air beside her, the bullet barely missing her.
“Get down, y/n!” shouted her brother desperately. She headed towards the back of the boat and threw the net into the water. It slid down the current and got caught right into the motor of the men’s boat, making the engine come to a halt abruptly. It clanged loudly and the two men shouted in anger. A sigh of relief left the girl’s lips. Her plan had worked.
“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!” hurried Pope. A last gunshot was heard but the hms was too far away to be reached.
“Oh my god!” “Whew!” The pogues all cheered and laughed at their small victory. They were all so glad to be away from these men and all in one piece. Kiara pulled y/n into a hug.
“Y/n, don’t you ever do something like that again. You fucking scared the crap out of me,” said John B as they approached the dock of the château. “I can’t promise anything. Who knows when someone else will shoot at us?”
They all hurried themselves onto the dock, excited to know the content of the bag. “What do you guys think it is?” “Maybe it’s like jewelry? Would be a weird place to keep it but who knows?” “Gotta be money, right?”
“That or a couple of keys with street value to the low- to mid-mils!” JJ’s eyes glistened with excitement. Y/n smiled softly.
“Can we please just open the bag?” burst Pope. The group all started at him.
“Wow Pope,” y/n giggled. “That was a rare outburst of emotions.”
“You guys are literally killing me with anticipation. Open the bag. We almost died over this.”
John B. pulled out a smaller bag which contained a metal canister. Every pair of eyes was fixed onto it as he pried it open and revealed a compass. Y/n kneeled next to her brother not believing what she was seeing. They exchanged a look, neither of them saying anything. They both knew what that object was and what it meant to their father, but what the hell was it doing there?
“Oh, wow. Yup, that’s about right.” Pope was clearly disappointed by their findings. “Good job, everybody. We found a compass.” Y/n raised a trembling hand to the compass, carefully taking it into her own hands to examine it. Was this really what she thought it was? How could it be? It didn’t make any sense.
JJ removed his hat in frustration. “Dude, what? It’s not worth anything.”
A small smile creeped on Jonh b’s face, his eyes still not looking away from the compass. “This was,” he started.
“This was our father’s,” completed y/n.

Summary: The time travel mission gets started.
Notes: You must read Out Of Time in order to understand this. The chapter numbers continue from Out Of Time.

“I’m going to look the suits over one last time before looking my reactor over,” Tony whispered to Y/N. “Are you going to be okay alone for a little while?”
“I’ll be fine,” she responded. “I need some time alone anyway.”
“Okay. I love you.”
“Love you too.”
They shared a brief kiss before Tony headed for the lab and Y/N went outside. She was craving a run, wanting time to short through her thoughts. She began with a slow jog, slowly increasing her speed the more she thought about everything that had happened and could possibly happen.
Rounding the track for the seventh time, she noticed Steve waiting. She rolled her eyes and pushed herself to run faster passed him. Too bad Y/N wasn’t a super soldier too, he quickly caught up with her.
“We need to talk,” Steve said, running beside her.
“I’m done talking,” she retorted, trying to push herself harder.
Steve sighed and easily caught up with her again. “Well I’m not. Can you stop for a second?”
“No.”
“Y/N, I just want to talk.”
“And I don’t want to listen.”
“Please.”
“Steve, I really don’t want to do this—“
“I’m sorry.”
Those words had Y/N skidding to a sudden stop. She was panting, too shocked to turn around. As soon as the words left his mouth, Steve had stopped. They were a few feet apart, but it felt like miles.
“What?” Y/N breathed out, slowly turning around.
“I’m sorry,” her brother repeated. “And in saying that, I know that it’s not enough. But… I’m sorry.”
“What are you apologizing for exactly? Bringing me along with you back in the 40s? Me waking up before you? You not accepting that I’m different now then I was, and that’s okay? Or for you not trusting me? For doubting me?”
“For all of it. I’m sorry that I brought you along on that world tour. I’m sorry that you fell from the ship and I couldn’t save you. I’m sorry that you had to spend years without any family members, believing that Bucky and I were dead. I can’t—“ He shook his head. “I can’t even imagine how lonely that felt. Because I woke up and I still had you. Though, you had changed…. And I’m sorry for not accepting it sooner. I… I guess I’m just hurt because you kept those things for me. Out of all people, you kept all these things from me, your twin. Your abilities, Coulson, your knowledge of the Stones… you knew so much, yet you didn’t share it…. And… And I guess I’m jealous.”
“Jealous? Of what?”
“You’ve found someone who loves you and fights for you. And you fight for equally in return. You guys lean on each other through everything, which is so admirable. And you have Morgan, who is the greatest thing. I love her so much.”
“She loves you too.”
“I want what you have… and I haven’t been able to find it. It’s killing me… the only person who I’ve ever wanted a family with was Peggy. And that’s not an option.”
“You’ll find someone better than her. I know it’s hard to believe, but you will.”
“I’m sorry, for everything. I really am.” Y/N was hesitant to believe Steve, and he could tell. “I don’t want to go into tomorrow, whatever may happen, without having cleared things up with you. I don’t want to do tomorrow without you knowing that I do love you and I do trust you…. Can you forgive me?”
Y/N bit her lips and looked away, trying to keep the emotions at bay and failing. She looked back at her brother and took a deep breath. “Yes… I forgive you.”
Steve rushed up and bear hugged his sister. She quickly wrapped her arms around him as well.
“I’m so sorry,” Steve whispered.
“I know,” she replied. “I am too. Let’s try and not be at each other’s throats constantly.”
“I think I can do that.” He pulled away, still holding onto her arms. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Putting up with me.”
“Well, I haven’t exactly made it easy on you either.”
“Right. Have you called Morgan yet tonight?”
“I haven’t, but she’s probably already in bed.”
“Do you think we could try? I want to see her, before anything happens tomorrow.”
“Good thing I have her on the line right here, Cap,” Tony stated, walking towards the twins.
“Uncle Steve!!!” Morgan squealed from the phone.
“Mo!!” Steve quickly swiped the phone from Tony. “How’s my favorite niece doing?”
“Good! Happy and Pepper let me swim in the lake today!”
“What?!” Y/N exclaimed, pushing to get into the view of the camera. “It’s October!”
“I didn’t— Morgan give me the phone,” Happy ordered. He swiped it from the little girl. “We didn’t let her! She snuck out.”
“Way to go, Mo!” Tony cheered.
Y/N smacked his arm. “Don’t encourage this,” she scolded.
“Sorry.”
“I’m sorry, momma,” Morgan said sadly, taking the phone back from Happy.
“It’s okay, sweetie,” Y/N replied. “I just don’t want you to get sick. Okay?”
“Okay… when are you and daddy coming home?”
Y/N made eye-contact with the men surrounding her before looking back at her daughter. “Hopefully tomorrow night, or the next day.”
“Yay! Will Uncle Steve be coming with you?” Y/N looked at Steve.
“Of course,” Steve answered. “I need some time with my biggest fan.”
“Yay!!!!!”
“Okay,” Tony took the phone, “it’s time to go to bed, little miss. We love you.”
“Love you 3000!”
“Love you baby,” Y/N said as Tony hung up the phone. “This is going to work, right?” She looked at the men, pleading with her eyes. “We’re going to get the Stones, bring everyone back, and no one is going to die…. Right?”
Tony cupped her face and her hands when to grab onto his wrists. “Nothing is going to happen,” Tony promised her. “We are all going to be okay. And we,” he paused for a brief kiss on her lips, “are going to get back to Morgan safely.”
“Tony’s right,” Steve agreed. Tony broke contact with Y/N’s face, bringing an arm around her waist and pulling her into his side. “We’re going to get through this.”
“I hope so,” she whispered.
~~~
Tony and Y/N said goodnight to Steve and headed straight for their room. The door had barely shut before Tony had her up against the wall and his tongue in her mouth. Y/N willing grasped onto him, letting him take control.
“I love you,” he murmured against her as they worked together to tear their clothes off. “I love you… I love you.”
“Are you trying to make up for us not having sex when we said we would?” She panted ever so slightly.
“Maybe,” he smirked, lifting her up. “Or maybe, I just want to show my wife how much I love her before we head off to the past tomorrow.” He gently laid her on the bed and he knelt over her. He ran his fingers down the side of her face. “I love you,” he repeated.
“And I love you… now, are we doing to do it? Or are you going to make me beg?”
~~~
The Team could feel the weight of their mission when they woke up in the morning. Getting geared up, everyone checked everything over numerous times. Scared to over look anything. The Team headed to the platform together, with Steve leading the charge. Bruce stopped at the control panel as the rest walked up onto the platform. They each took a position around where the opening would be, Y/N in the middle of Steve and Tony. They all looked at their Captain to say something before they headed off. With a sigh and a second to get his thoughts together, Steve began:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Five years ago, we lost. All of us. We lost friends… We lost family… We lost a part of ourselves. Today, we have a chance to take it all back. You know your teams, you know your missions. Get the stones, get them back. One round trip each. No mistakes. No do-overs. Most of us are going somewhere we know. But it doesn't mean we should know what to expect. Be careful. Look out for each other. This is the fight of our lives. And we're gonna win.” Looking passed Y/N, Steve and Tony shared a look. “Whatever it takes. Good luck.”
“He’s pretty good at that,” Rocket commented.
“Right?” Scott agreed.
Tumblr media
“Alright. You heard the man,” Tony said. “Stroke those keys, jolly green.”
“Tractors engaged,” Bruce responded.
Tony reached over to Y/N and tugged her into him, landed a loving kiss on her lips. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” she responded.
Bruce joined them on the platform and the quantum realm opened up. Tony and Y/N separated, looking down at the swirling colors. Natasha was smiling excitedly.
Turning to Steve, she said, “See you in a minute.”
Tumblr media
Steve gave her a small smile in response before the Team’s helmets formed and they shrunk, entering the quantum realm. They were all together at first, until their GPS’ split the groups up to where they were heading. Tony, Steve, Y/N, Bruce, and Scott landed in New York 2012, in the midst of the Battle of New York. Their suits disappeared and Y/N immediately gasped loudly, stumbling back. Tony and Steve were quickly at her side to stable.
“Honey? Honey, talk to me,” Tony urged as Y/N’s breathing matched her rapid heartbeat. “What’s going on?”
“Th-The Stones,” she gasped. She could feel the connection forming once again. “They… I can…”
“Can you control them?” Steve questioned, trying to see if he could see what Y/N was trying to get at.
She nodded. “Yes.”
“Do you need to sit down?” Tony wondered.
“I’ll be fine. I just…” The buzzing began, making Y/N cringe. “I just need a second. But you guys can start without me. It shouldn’t be hard for me to catch up.”
“You sure?” Steve asked.
“I’m sure.”
“Alright then, we all have our assignments. Two Stones uptown, one Stone, down. Stay low. Keep an eye on the clock.”
Suddenly 2012 Hulk passed by their alleyway, smashing everything along his way. Bruce put his hand on his face, embarrassed. Steve looked at him.
“Feel free to smash a few things along the way,” Steve said.
“I think it’s gratuitous, but whatever,” Bruce muttered. He looked Y/N’s way. “You coming?”
“Yeah,” she responded. She leaned over and kissed Tony, pulling him closer by his neck. “Please be save.”
“Always,” he smirked. The two shared one last kiss before Y/N broke off and headed Bruce’s way.
“Need a lift?” Bruce asked, tearing off his shirt.
“Nah,” she grinned, opening a portal behind her. “I think I have a better way.”
“Jealous!” Scott exclaimed. “Do we have to— Ahh!!”
Scott failed to finish what he was saying, due to the fact that Y/N had opened portals beneath the others. She waved and blew a kiss as they fell through, landing them behind the Tower. She chuckled as she went through her portal, Bruce following. Closing the portal, Y/N and Bruce looked to see that they were in the Sanctum where they had met Dr. Strange.
“Hello?” Y/N said. “Is anyone—ah!”
Her trick was played on her and Bruce. The two of them falling through a portal and onto the roof.
“Careful,” the Ancient One warned. “I just had the floors waxed.”
“I’m looking for Doctor Strange,” Bruce said, him and Y/N standing up.
“You’re about… five years too early. Stephen Strange is currently performing surgery about twenty blocks that way.” She pointed. “But you should have known that already.” She looked right at Y/N. “What do you want from him?”
“That, actually.” Bruce pointed towards the necklace around her neck.
“Ah! I’m afraid not.”
“Sorry, but I wasn’t asking.”
“Maybe we should—“
“You don’t want to do this,” the Ancient One interrupted Y/N.
“Ah, you’re right, I don’t,” Bruce responded. He made a grab from he necklace. “But we need that Stone, and we don’t have time to beat it—“
The Ancient One quickly pushed Bruce’ astral form out of his body. Bruce, who now looked more human, stared at the Ancient One horrified.
Tumblr media
“Let’s start over,” the Ancient One said, “shall we?”
“You know who I am?” Y/N asked.
“I do. But, do you know who are?”
“I’m getting there. And I’m so sorry to bug, but we really need that Time Stone.”
“No.”
“Do you know what happened?”
“I do.”
“Then you know why we need it.”
“Still, a no."
“Please, please,” Bruce, still in astral form, begged.
“I’m sorry, I can’t help you two. If I give up the Time Stone to help your reality, I’m dooming my own.”
“With all due respect, I’m not sure the science really supports that.”
The Ancient One created a projection of a long ray, simulating the flow of time. Projections of the Stones hovered above it.
“The Infinity Stones create what you experience as the flow of time. Remove one Stone and that flow splits,” she explained before she plucked the Time Stone projection away and pointed at the diverging line. “Now, this may benefit your reality, but my new one… not so much. In this new branched reality, without our chief weapon against the forces of darkness, our world will be overrun. Millions will suffer. So, tell me, can your science prevent all that?”
“No, but we can erase it,” Bruce retorted. “Because once we are done with the stones, we can return each one to its own timeline at the moment it was taken. So, chronologically,” he held the Time Stone projection, “in that reality,” he set it back, “it never left.” The diverging line disappeared.
“But you are leaving out the most important part. In order to return the Stones, someone would have to survive.”
“We will. I will. I promise.”
“I can’t risk this reality on a promise. It is the duty of the Sorcerer Supreme to protect the Time Stone.” She turned away.
“Then, why the hell did Strange give it away?”
She turned back, shocked. “What did you say?”
“Strange, he gave it away,” Y/N repeated, surprised that the Ancient One didn’t know since she seemed to know everything. “He gave it to Thanos.”
“Willingly?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“We have no idea,” Bruce answered. “Maybe he made a mistake.”
“Or I did.” She returned Bruce into his body and opened her necklace, revealing the Time Stone. “Strange is meant to be the best of us.”
“Ancient One, please trust us,” Y/N pled. “I am realizing now you only know so much, but you know what I am meant to do. And I cannot do it without the Stones. They were destroyed and I have no access to them. We need the Stone so that we can bring everyone back and… and so that I can complete whatever calling the Stones have put upon me… Strange knew the calling as well. So he must have given the Time Stone away for a reason.”
“I fear you might be right.” She handed Y/N the Time Stone.
“I’m counting on you two. We all are.”
“Thank you.”
Y/N handed the Stone over to Bruce, who had something to put it in. Bruce nodded before pressing a button and disappearing. Before Y/N could follow after him, the Ancient One called out to her.
“Y/N.” Y/N stopped and turned. “Before you go, you might want to check on your husband and brother.”
“What? Is something wrong?”
“Just go to their meeting place. And, Y/N, be careful.”

Thinking Thin
SPENCER REID X READER
SUMMARY: You knew you couldn’t hide your habits forever, you just hoped you could’ve hid them a bit longer.
WARNINGS: Eating Disorders, Low Self-Esteem, Self Degradation
WORD COUNT: 4k
Tumblr media
I knew that what I was thinking was just my mental illness talking. While looking at my body in the mirror, I knew that the words I was thinking about what I saw were words only I thought about myself, but it didn’t stop me from thinking them and believing them.
Pulling my t-shirt up a little higher, I felt a sense of dread come over myself when I take in my overall form. My stomach still hung a bit, and from a side view even tight pants couldn’t stop the protruding shape of it. I wanted to cry. I wanted to physically cut the fat off of myself. How humiliating it felt to be fat when I worked in the field that I do, surrounded by beautiful people. How did the team not look at me and doubt my work? How did they feel so comfortable trusting me with their life when I don’t even have my own put together? I sighed as I pulled my shirt back down and tucked it back into my slacks. After throwing a cardigan on to help me cover up a bit more, I was out the door and on my way to work.
The second I walked out of the elevator and towards the bullpen, I could feel my anxiety rising. I had joined the BAU team close to a year ago. I was close with them all, comfortable on an emotional level with each of them, but when it came to my insecurities and every day struggles to just stay alive or even just eat a meal, they were oblivious. So when I was having a bad day like today, my anxiety sat a little higher on my scale and I could only hope that I could keep it low key.
“Good morning, y/n,” JJ sweetly greeted me as I set my bag down. She was sitting on Reid’s desk, him in his chair and Derek standing next to them. I blushed at the attention I got as they followed JJ’s eye-line, and offered back a similar greeting before taking a seat and letting out a sigh.
“Rough morning, princess?” Derek chuckled. I wanted to say yes, but I knew the question was generic and made more for the purpose of humor.
“Just feel like I’m always tired nowadays. As much as I hate to say it, it’s like I need cases to keep me alert and busy,” I offered back. It wasn’t a lie, I was tired. It might have to do with the little food intake, or the restless sleep, but what they don’t know doesn’t hurt. I did feel more alert when working a case, but that’s to be understood since every case is dealing with murderers. If I wasn’t alert, it’d be a bit questionable.
“Well you are in luck then, missy. Hotch wants us all in the conference room, we have a new case,” Garcia chimed in, speed walking past the four of us and towards the conference room. I watched the others stand up and begin to follow her, but the second I stood up I felt the dizziness set in and stopped myself from moving for a second, needing the support of my desk to not topple over. The dizziness subsided and I cleared my eyesight before standing up straight and trying to blow off what just happened. I looked around to see if anyone caught that, my heartbeat picking up a bit when I made direct eye contact with Spencer right before he disappeared into the conference room. The panicked feeling in my chest grew as I walked towards the room. I could only hope he either saw the end of what just happened, or that he was just curiously looking around and looked at me the same time I looked at him. I didn’t have much time to think before entering the room where everyone was already seated, quickly making my way to my own seat in between Emily and Derek.
“Alright team, last night in Washington, a third hiker was found with a limb missing,” Garcia started, flashing pictures of the newest and previous other victims with different body parts missing from each of them. Beginning to brainstorm with the team, my thought process was somewhere else. I really tried to stay with them, and to throw in my own insights, but it was hard when trying to avoid eye contact with Spencer when I could feel his gaze on me a lot of the time. What was he thinking?
Soon enough Hotch announced that we’ll be flying out in thirty minutes, and everyone started to separate to go grab their to-go bags and finish up any last minute tasks. As I walked out of the conference room, I jumped a bit at Reid standing up straight and pushing off of the railing right outside the door.
“Jesus Spence, are you trying to kill me?” I chuckled, throwing a hand over my heart to be dramatic. My heart was actually beating fast, only continuing its pace once I made direct eye contact with him. He offered a shy smile, tucking his hands into his pockets.
“Sorry, I truly didn’t mean to scare you,” he chuckled, “I just wanted to check in with you, see if you were feeling alright?”
“Oh yeah, like I said earlier, just a bit tired.”
“You looked like you were on the verge of passing out right before we went into the conference room. Are you sure you’re alright? Are you feeling sick?” He pushed on. My cheeks went red knowing he had witnessed my dizziness spell earlier. My mind whirled with all my potential answers, but I just couldn’t think of a good one.
“Oh no, I’m not sick. I’m fine, I promise,” I tried to sound confident in my answer, waving him off while beginning to walk by him. I jumped a bit at the feeling of his hand gently wrapping around my forearm, stopping me from walking away.
“I’ve noticed you have moments like what I saw earlier a lot recently. You know you can talk to me about anything, what’s going on?” My eyes widened a bit at how observant he’s been. Of course he wouldn’t forget what he’s seen considering his ability to memorize literally everything, but I didn’t expect him to notice me as much as he has.
“I-“ my mouth clamped shut at the sound of Hotch calling everyone to start to head out. I took the distraction to pull my arm away from Spencer and speed walk to my desk, grabbing my bag and following the others to the elevator. I begged myself not to turn around and look at Spencer, but it was inevitable when hopping into the elevator and facing the doors to see him joining the rest of us. He wasn’t looking at me, and I let out a deep breath. I knew the conversation wasn’t over. I knew he was not making a scene for the sake of my privacy, which I’m thankful for, but I just never wanted this conversation to pick back up.
* * *
The second we got to Washington and split up, any previous thoughts were thrown to the curb and our attention was fully on the case. Hotch, Reid and I made our way into the police station, and the chief of police was quick to fill us in on everything he knew about the case. Thanking him, we were quick to be left on our own to try and figure things out.
The day went by quickly, everyone joining back at the station around 8pm with more and more information, getting us closer to figuring out the unsub. Spencer’s been watching me a bit, and I could tell he had something to say every time I declined wanting anything to eat and instead settling with drinking more coffee. To settle his mind a bit, I made sure to eat a small vending machine granola bar within his eyesight hoping he would be satisfied seeing me eat something. Before we knew it, it was 11pm and we were all exhausted, ready to head to the hotel for the night and pick back up in the morning.
“Alright, we have four rooms. Who wants to board with who?” Hotch asks as we’re packing up our things. This happens every time, and most of the time Spencer and I would share a room, but sometimes Derek and him would go with each other and I’d get a room by myself considering Rossi and Hotch usually go in one and JJ and Emily would share another.
“I’ll board with y/n,” Spencer called out quickly. Everyone else figured their situation after that, but my mind was racing and my stomach was sinking.
I knew there would be a day where hiding my habits would become a bit harder, I just didn’t want to believe that today might be the day that they may become exposed to someone else. I haven’t lost nearly enough weight for the team to notice, and I’ve been doing extremely well at keeping this personal matter at bay. I’ve never had to talk about any of this with everyone, so it’s a dreadful thought that in just under ten minutes there’s the potential that i’m going to have to try an figure out how to hide what’s going on to the extreme or end up telling Spencer what’s truly going on.
The thought of him knowing sent a buzz throughout my body. My mind told me it’s pathetic that I restrict so heavily, and to still be as fat as I am. Would he even believe me if I told him I have an eating disorder while looking like I do? Most days I want to laugh at myself for having an eating disorder and still being so heavy, and I know that Spencer is nowhere near as cruel as my own mind, but what if he doesn’t take it seriously? Would that hurt more than the constant nagging in my brain and pain throughout my body?
The car came to a stop and we all began to go our separate ways. Spencer grabbed our key from Hotch, and I slowly followed behind his tensed form. He didn’t say anything to me the entire elevator ride up. I could feel him side eyeing me and my cheeks burned red.
I was expecting him to say something the second we got into our room, but he didn’t. Instead he simply announced that he was going to shower, and left me alone in the room. A sigh of relief left my lips before my mind went straight to overthinking. What if he just genuinely doesn’t care and he was simply “checking” on me earlier to at least acknowledge what he saw? What if he’s simply going to ignore it? Isn’t that what I want? Why do I feel so upset that he’s not asking me more questions, when i’ve been pushing so hard for him not to?
My mind felt like mush. I didn’t struggle like this everyday. Most days went on like normal. I’d wake up, drink coffee, head to work and just immerse myself into whatever project is going on so I didn’t have to think about food. Most days I’d eat at least one meal, two if I got a considerate amount of exercise in. I won’t deny that i’ve lost weight, but it just wasn’t enough, and that was proven by the fact that no one else seemed to notice either. No one on the team ever judged me for my weight, and I know they all loved me for who I am and not what I look like, but it’s hard not to compare myself when on the same team as women that look like JJ and Emily. They were skinny and pretty, men loved to stare at them, while I was always overlooked and ignored. I thought maybe, just maybe, if I lost some weight and tried a little harder, I might feel a bit more loved. And that’s where I felt conflicted. What I’m doing is unhealthy. I know that much, but I couldn’t just stop. It’s become an addiction of mine to really push myself and see how low of a calorie intake I can have each day while still feeling normal. It’s addicting to have control over this when everything else in my life feels so out of reach.
“y/n?” my head snapped towards the bathroom door, seeing Spencer leaning against the frame. I didn’t realize I had sat down on the end of one of the beds, or that I had just been staring at the wall the entire time. His hair was wet, and he was dressed in a pair of pajama pants and a plain t-shirt. He looked so beautiful, too beautiful to want to be around someone like me.
“What’s going on?” he asked. I’d be stupid to assume that he can’t read me like a book, but I knew that saying anything along the lines of “nothing” wouldn’t be a suitable answer for him.
“I’m just tired.”
“Don’t give me that again, y/n,” he sighed frustratingly and I could feel my heart wrench. Was I annoying him?
“You’ve changed in the past few months. I never see you eat, you’re experiencing dizzy spells, and don’t think I don’t notice how you either avoid your reflection in any reflecting surface or you simply grimace at what you’re seeing. Tell me what’s going on, and don’t lie to me.”
I shook my head, willing myself to stop the tears that were forming and so badly wanted to stream down my face. I quickly turned my head to the opposite side of the room from him, feeling as if I might implode if I made eye contact with him.
“I’m just tired, Spence. Can we please just leave it at that?” I asked. I didn’t mean to sound so weak, I wanted to sound confident as to not add to his suspicions, but I messed that up too.
“I’m not going to leave it at that. Do you think i’m stupid, y/n?” this time I couldn’t help but look at him. His voice carried anger and frustration, and it made a ball of guilt and shame expand in my chest. He held eye contact with me before sighing and pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Of course I don’t think your stu-”
“You must if you don’t think i’ve caught on to what you’re doing to yourself. You’ve lost a good amount of weight within the past few months, you’re not eating, you keep getting dizzy, your moods are constantly changing, and again - I see the way you look at yourself. Now are you going to talk to me or am I just stuck here keeping these assumptions to myself and letting you hurt yourself?”
My eyes widened at hearing all the things he’s noticed. I was definitely the stupid one for assuming he wouldn’t notice. He was staring me down. I tried to hold eye contact but couldn’t.
“I’m sorry,” I spit out. I don’t know what exactly I was apologizing for, but I know I felt guilty. I felt defeated and sad that while I was hurting myself, I was also making Spencer experience it along side with me unknowingly.
“I don’t want you to apologize to me!” His exclamation was the final straw to get the tears running down my face. Could I possibly make this any worse? He clearly knows what going on, and I’m only making him more frustrated the longer I continue to not talk about it, but it was still so embarrassing. I didn’t want to talk out loud about this issue, almost like I felt I didn’t deserve to.
“I want you to tell me you have an eating disorder. I want you to confide in me like I do with you all the time for my problems! I want to hear whats going on in your big, stubborn brain to make you think what you’re doing to yourself is okay!” he approached continued while approaching me. I still sat on the edge of the bed, and he stood right in front of me. I couldn’t help the slight jump at the feeling of his hands gently caressing each side of my face, tilting my head up, forcing me to make eye contact with him.
“I hate how I look,” I softly spoke through tears, “I’m surrounded by beautiful people and I can’t help the embarrassment that floods through me on the daily because I will never be worthy of anyones time. I have rolls and a stomach that hangs over, and I can’t wear shorts or skirts without my thighs chafing and sometimes even my jeans grow holes because they can’t take the tension of having so much fat rub together,” I could feel my regret bubble up with every word I was saying, knowing that whether it be tonight or tomorrow or the day after that, I will regret having talked about any of this out loud, but I can’t stop myself now. It’s been bubbling up in my system for too long.
“I can’t imagine being in a relationship with anyone looking the way I do. I can’t imagine anyone would find me attractive, let alone sexy. I can’t look at myself in the mirror, especially naked, how could I expect anyone else to want to? So i’m trying to lose weight. It might not be the best way, but it’s working. It’s working and it might have some negative side affects, but i need it to work, Spence. I can’t keep looking like this,” now I was frustrated crying. So frustrated that I look the way I do. Frustrated that i’ve never been skinny in my entire life, and that even as a kid I was ridiculed for my weight. Frustrated that what i’m saying won’t make sense to a lot of people, but for me it’s my entire existence. My days revolve around this happening to me, and to others they still just see a fat person.
Spencers grip tightened a bit when I tried to pull away. His thumbs had been slowly helping wipe away the tears that didn’t seem to want to stop. For someone who claims so much that they didn’t want anyone to find out, I sure did feel all too relieved that the secret was out. I didn’t know what I wanted out of this, but by the look on Spencers’ face, at least I knew I have someone that loves and cares for me even while dealing with such a difficult thing.
Without saying anything, he pulls me into his chest. My tears were beginning to subside, but the ache in my chest was still persistent.
“I hate to see you treating yourself like this,” he gently started, each word creating a small vibration on my cheek from the rumbling of his chest as he spoke, “You are so strong. You’ve been dealing with this without talking to anyone? How- how you even began to form these opinions and see yourself like this is a mystery to me, but y/n, you are so so beautiful. I don’t know how else to say that. You are so bright and warm, and you help bring everyone to a better place just by being present. It fucking kills me to hear you say these things about yourself, but I get me just calling you beautiful isn’t going to magically fix things.” I could tell he was thinking as he paused after that last second, “I want to help you. I miss your smiles, i miss going out to grab food with you as a small escape from cases. I miss joking around with you, and not constantly being afraid of watching you to make sure you don’t pass out. I know there’s a certain control factor in what you’re doing, but i want to help you get control on things in a healthier way. I don’t know what else to say other than i want to help you. I don’t want to watch you hurt anymore.”
Silence fell over the room after that. My thoughts were all over the place, and I know his were too. He slowly pulled away from me, bringing his hands back up to my face, forcing me to make eye contact with him again.
“I like the control. I can’t let myself go back to before if i still look like this,” I whispered out.
“I can’t let you continue this, y/n. I can’t sit around knowing you’ve gone hours without eating and that you’re constantly having inner turmoil telling you you’re worth so little. You’re so important. No matter what you look like, you are and always will be so important. You’re beautiful, and smart, and you are just... so important,” he responded, “you don’t deserve all the bad you’re putting yourself through. There’s so many other things that you can gain control over, but hurting yourself like this should not be one of them. I don’t know what or how to help you, that’s what i need you to tell me. What can i do for you? What do you need from me? because you’d be stupid to think that tomorrow once we wake up and get back to working the case that i’m just going to forget all of this. This will be on my mind until you get your life back.”
I couldn’t stop myself from crying again. A warmth spread throughout my body, hearing him being so supportive and the furthest from annoyed or frustrated like i thought anyone would’ve been was soothing my heart and mind. There’s clearly no coming back from this. Spencer knew my darkest secret and he’s here telling me he wants to help. This is my chance to help myself, and i’d be more than stupid not to do it.
“I just need support. I need help. I still so badly want to lose weight, but i need help working through my disordered eating mindset and i don’t know if i can do that on my own. I just... need help,” I couldn’t think of what else i could say, but i could tell by the slow nodding and the small smile that was forming on his face that he knew what i was implying.
“I’m so proud of you, just know that. I’m proud that you talked to me and let me know what’s going on your mind. I’m all yours, y/n. I’ll always be by your side and willing to help, you just have to let me.”
I nodded to which he slowly bent down a bit and kissed my forehead. I was beyond relieved that the conversation had died down. I was relieved that someone else knew what was going on in my mind and that i wasn’t alone anymore.
“Now go get your pajamas on. We’ve got a long day tomorrow, and I don’t want you to be too sleep deprived.” he smiled.
Even though there were two beds, it was figured by the both of us that only one was going to be used. Once I got out of the bathroom dressed in my pajamas, Spencer was quick to pull the blankets back next to where he was laying and indicate for me to hop in next to him. I settled down, his arms gently pulling me closer to him, and i rested my head on his chest.
“Thank you Spence, for everything. I don’t know what i would do without you,” I admitted after he turned out the lights and we were both settled and about to fall asleep.
“I love you, y/n,” he whispered, kissing the top of my head. I lifted my body enough to look at him to ensure he was meaning it the way i thought he was, and the look on his face solidified that it was.
“I love you more, Spence.”

“Dirtbikes” - Jacob Black x Reader
Tumblr media
So this was for my @twilight-secret-gift-exchange ! This was written for @laneboyheathens and I hope they enjoy :)
“I’m honestly a fan of anything angst/whump/hurt comfort related or even character studies.”
This takes place in New Moon time, as that’s the prime era for comforting and hurt characters. I hope you enjoy!
_____________
“Jacob, I know you’re getting my messages.” I sigh into the phone.
“Please, call me back when you get this… I miss you.” I hang up the phone, throwing it onto my bed as I stare out my window, analyzing everything that’s gone on the last few weeks.
Jacob told me that he got sick with mono, I had lost all contact with my best friend. We spent everyday together, just as our usual routine. Though this disruption caused Jacob to fall off the face of the Earth, without a simple trace of his existence, leaving me not only confused, but in a state of solitude. I had lost my only friend, the person I cared for more than anything else.
Our latest adventure was working on some dirtbikes I picked up from being scrapped, I knew it was within Jacob’s expertise and realm of interests. Spending every day in his garage was a great time, working on the bikes, eating pizza and listening to music. Sometimes his friends Quil and Embry would stop in to say hello, Embry was always very interested in helping with the mechanical work and Quil was always talking my ear off. I enjoyed their company, though if I were to be honest, I would enjoy anything at my best friend Jacob’s side.
A month and some weeks back, Jacob went through the loss of his friend Embry ditching him to join this guy Sam’s group. He was distraught to lose one of his best friends, as many of the people he’d known his whole life disappeared randomly, changing entirely before joining Sam in his ways.
“Dan, I just… I don’t want to be next.” He looks at me with worried eyes.
“Jake, why would you be next?” I ask, rubbing comforting circles into his back.
“Sam keeps looking at me like he’s waiting for me or something… it’s really starting to freak me out.” His worried eyes met mine, puffy and red-- tears brimming the edge of his eyes.
“I don’t think you’ll be next Jake, try to avoid him. How can I help?”
“You being here is enough, you always calm me down.” He nods, leaning closer into my shoulder.
“I’ll always be here, Jake. No matter what.” I smile softly at him, continuing to rub circles into his back.
The sound of my mother calling me down for dinner snapped me back to reality. The only issue was, is that I was far from hungry. I had lost most of my appetite since Jake had disappeared without a trace. My mother grew worried, but there was nothing she could do to fix this. The only thing to fix this was for Jake to come back, for him to be okay.
I knew Jacob wasn’t okay, I knew he was stuck with his biggest fear-- he was with Sam. I still don’t understand what could have happened-- Jacob was so adamant on staying far from Sam; so what could have happened?
I sigh, looking out my window and pressing my hand to the glass, longing for my friend to even let me know he was alive. Whenever I had called, there was no answer; no answers to my texts. He even avoided me in person like I never thought possible. But how could I get my friend back? How could I get Jacob back? This surely wasn’t the Jacob I knew,.
No, the Jacob I knew wasn’t like this. He was like the sun, he was warm, happy, and sweet. His caring nature came through to everyone he met, he was pure and good-- he was beautiful. But the Jake I knew wasn’t coming around-- he was gone. I didn’t give up, though. I knew that Jake couldn’t be gone forever, but I was growing discouraged at the sudden loss of contact. Before Jake disappeared, he had seemingly grown overnight, started to feel unwell, and seemingly grew more agitated as the days went by-- he was more on edge than I’ve ever seen him before.
I couldn’t do it much longer. Holding onto someone who seemingly couldn’t care less was far past difficult-- it was defeating. I was tired of calling Jake every day to be ignored, it was increasingly difficult.
As I look out the window, I notice a leaf blowing in the wind. I watch as it blows into the treeline. I look down at the ground, admiring the natural beauty of the Earth. But I was tired, I was beyond tired from hearing nothing from Jake. I was going to go to his house, I had to. I grab my keys off my desk, quickly walking out of my room and heading towards my front car in the driveway.
“Are you not eating, hon?” My mother asks, looking over to me with sympathetic, kind eyes.
“No, I’m sorry. I have to go. I need to find him.” I shake my head slightly.
“Be careful.” She instructs me with a pitiful smile.
“I will.” I nod, opening the front door and making my way over to my car.
I turn the key, the engine roaring to life. I drove to Jake’s as if my life depended on it, getting there quicker than I should have been able to.
I stand before their front door, hesitating to knock.
Eventually, I grew the courage, a soft knock turning into a panicked, rougher one.
Soon enough, Billy opens the door, surprised to see me.
“Oh, hey, Dan. Jacob’s not in right now.” He says to me with sad eyes.
“Please, Billy. I need to see him.” I plead.
“Dan…” His voice trailed off.
“Billy, please.” I try once again.
“He’s not in.” He swallows.
“Fine.”
I turn away with tears in my eyes, only to see Embry and three other guys approach the house. I look back at Billy and make my way over to the group of men.
“Why won’t he talk to me?” I ask, tears brimming my eyes through my anger.
“What’re you talking about?” One of them asks.
“You know what I’m talking about. What did you do to him?” I yell.
“Calm down, Paul.” One says, laying a hand on one the angry man’s shoulders.
“What did he tell you?” The one I assume to be Paul smirks.
“Nothing! He won’t tell me anything! I haven’t heard from him in weeks.” I seethe.
“Good.” One of them scoffs.
“What did you do to my best friend?” I scream.
“Paul, calm down!” Jacob’s voice rings out from behind me, both infuriating and soothing me. “Dan, please leave.”
My heart fell right through my chest.
“What?” I turn around to look at him, tears brimming my eyes.
“You might get hurt, you can’t be here right now.” He says softly.
But then our eyes met, and suddenly I felt a shift in gravity.
Jacob’s eyes widened, face slightly growing pale, and his mouth hung slightly agape.
“Jacob…” The authoritative voice trails off, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Jacob, we need to talk.” I hiss.
“We do. We do need to talk.” He says with a soft smile encroaching his face.
“So start talking.” I huff.
“Follow me, we’re going on a walk.” He mutters, nodding his head to the left.
We begin walking and I turn around after feeling someone staring holes into the back of my head. I turn around and glare at the group of men.
“Jacob, what the hell is going on? What is your problem? When did you grow so much, how is that even possible?” I hiss.
“Listen, I know. I disappeared for a while, and I am so sorry. It wasn’t my choice, I didn’t want to do this… Growing just came with the situation.” He looks at me with sad eyes.
“Well, it’s hard for me to believe that, I have no idea what’s going on. You left me, you dropped off the face of the Earth. It was almost like you never existed, you didn’t care what happened to me.”
“That’s not true, I always cared about you, that never stopped.”
“You have a real funny way of showing it.” I huff.
“I can explain it. I can explain it all, now.” He shakes his head as we walk deeper into the woods.
“What changed?”
“What?”
“What changed? Why can you suddenly tell me?” I look at him with raised eyebrows.
“I can explain that eventually… just not now. I’m not ready for that. But everything else is on the table.” He looks down at his feet.
“This better be good. You don’t know what I’ve been going through since you left.” I scoff.
“In my defense, you don’t know what caused me to leave, you don’t know why I had to… You don’t know what I’ve been going through since I left.” He looks over at me with sad eyes.
“Alright, so tell me.”
“Would you want me to tell you or show you first?”
“What? What does that even mean?”
“I’ll tell you, and then I’ll show you.” He shakes his head.
“Start talking, Jake.”
“Okay, so you know that Quiliutes are supposedly descended from wolves? Do you remember any of those legends?” He asks me, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, your dad talked about them a lot. The cold ones and everything?”
“Exactly, well shifting is real, Dan. Everything in those legends are true. They’re all true.” He looks at me with pleading eyes.
“Jacob, what are you saying?” I furrow my brows.
“I’m trying to tell you that… cold ones exist. Vampires. And because of them being nearby, it woke up the shifting within us… Shifting is real. I…” His voice trails off.
“Jacob…”
“I can shift. We all can. Embry, Paul, Jared, Sam, and now we’re waiting for Quil.” His eyes pierce mine.
“Jake... “ My voice trails off in concern.
“No, let me show you. Just understand that I won’t ever hurt you, none of us will. Ever.”
Jacob then begins to undress himself. He pulls his shirt over his head and begins to unbutton his pants.
“Why are you taking off your clothes?”
“I’m gonna need something to change into when I phase back, can’t have them rip. You need to stand back.” He says, cocking his head to the right.
I nod, backing up about another ten feet.
Suddenly, his entire body is shaking, no vibrating. Steam is evaporating from his skin.
“Jacob…” I whisper, taking another few steps back.
Suddenly, he bursts out of his own skin. A giant reddish-brown wolf appears in front of me.
“What the hell?” I mutter, falling on my own ass.
The creature walks over to me, ears laying back and keeping its head low.
“Jacob?” I ask.
The giant head nods, placing its head onto my lap. I scratch a little bit behind the ears before it takes off, grabbing the clothes and going behind some bushes.
I hear more bones cracking and then Jake walks out a moment later, fully clothed yet again. Disappointment falling upon his face as he sees mine filled with shock and slight fear.
“I’m really sorry. I’m just not Jake anymore.” He says, despair filling every fibre of his being.
“So you can turn into a giant wolf, but are you still you?” I ask, hesitantly reaching out to touch his shoulder.
His face softened at my touch, giving me some hope to see the old Jacob back.
“I mean, I’m a monster… but I still care about you and everyone else I cared about. I just can’t be around anyone anymore.” He looks down at his hands.
“How are you a monster?”
“Did you miss the part where I just turned into an enormous wolf or should I show you again?” He chuckles sadly.
“Well, you didn’t choose to? And do you hurt people?”
“No, I protect them.”
“Okay, and do you still love your family? And all your friends?”
“More than anything.”
“And you still love working on bikes and cars? Still dream of owning your own shop one day?”
“More than anything, I can’t wait until this is all over and I can resume life as usual.” He scoffs, kicking some dirt underneath us.
“Okay, so you’re still the Jacob I always knew. You’re the Jake I know and love, you just turn into a massive wolf and kill the vampires that kill people. Sounds to me like you’re a hero, not a monster.” I squeeze his shoulder comfortingly.
He looks at me, tears brimming his eyes.
“Thank you.”
I feel the weight of my best friend’s head fall onto my shoulder. The weight comforted me greatly, in fact any form of contact with Jake seemingly soothed me to no end.
“Jacob, I told you that I would be there for you through it all, and I meant it.” I smile softly at him.
“I know, but I couldn’t do anything about this. It wasn’t my choice.” He sighs.
“I understand, but now you have no excuse to blow me off.” I smirk.
“You’re right. What do you say we get back to working on those bikes?” He looks at me with a soft smile, just like old Jacob.
“I’d say that we should do that immediately.” I return his smile.
“Thank you. For everything. For handling this so well, for being here.” He gulps.
“I meant it, Jacob. Through everything I’ll be by your side.”
We went on our way, returning to Jake’s garage.
The smell of tools and oil immediately invaded my nostrils, the familiar environment leaving me with an endless amount of comfort.
Jacob walks over to the old radio, turning it on to play some music quietly.
“Can’t even tell you the last time I’ve turned this thing on.” He chuckles.
“Probably since I was here last.” I tease, watching his face contort in sadness.
“Let’s get working on these bikes.” He nods.
I passed him the wrench he needed and we began working again, finally.
“I didn’t want this, I wish it could be taken away, but I’m in it for life.” He says, resentment in his eyes.
We spoke a little of his whole new “situation.” Him growing increasingly upset and seemingly full of resentment. It hurt to hear him speak of himself so full of disdain.
I let him vent all of his feelings, knowing he needed someone to talk to. Eventually I knew it was time to get back to old times.
So we spent the rest of the day laughing like we used to, working on the bikes and joking around like nothing ever changed. Because that’s what he needed in his new lifestyle, normalcy. He needed to be brought back to what he enjoyed, he needed something to hang onto.
And I always kept my promise.
As darkness crept up outside, we noticed that it was almost midnight now.
“I should probably get going now, my mom is probably wondering where I went.” I sigh, looking outside into the darkness.
“Sure, I’ll walk you out.” He gets up, wiping the oil off his hands with the shop towel.
“Thank you.” I smile softly.
The walk to my car was quiet, but this time the silence was comforting.
“Goodnight.” He waves as we made it to my car.
“Goodnight, Jake.” I smile, opening my car door.
“Oh, and Jake?” I ask.
“Yeah?”
“We’ll have that shop up and running in no time, don’t you worry.” I encourage, smiling at him.
“Thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow, I’m not going anywhere.” He nods, a smile tugging at the end of his lips.
“See you tomorrow.” I say, shutting my car door and making my way home.
The night sky bringing me the same level of serenity that my best friend did, giving me the peace I had needed for weeks.
Things were finally okay.
Jake was finally back.

"want some whipped cream with that?”
pairing: kei tsukishima x baker!reader smut
summary: tsukki makes a trip to his local bakery with a craving for his favourite strawberry shortcakes in town. he finds something else that’s sweet to satisfy his craving
or i saw strawberry shortcakes was one of tsukki’s favourite food in canon so i ran with it
word count: 2700
The light, sweet twinkling sound of a metal wind chime disrupted the silence of the cosy bakery as the front door swung open. A tall blonde figure entered and immediately seemed to take up a huge amount of space in the tiny cafe as the smell of freshly baked goods wafted through the air. It lingered in his nose and seemed to permeate through the welcoming environment around him, settling around the floral centrepieces and squashy armchairs that the blonde figure was very tempted to sink into and nap after the day he just had.
The owner of the bakery’s head poked around the corner of the staff-only doorway behind the counter.
“Ohhh I always knew you were illiterate Tsukki-san,” Y/N teased, motioning towards the ‘CLOSED’ sign on the door he had just barged through.
“That’s funny coming from a little pipsqueak who’s only good for baking,” Tsukishima replied quickly and his eyes glittered with mirth as he walked over to get a better look at the counter.
“No point in looking. It was pretty busy today so I’m fresh out of pretty much everything, including your beloved shortcake.”
Y/N leaned onto the counter, head coming to rest on her hands so she could peer at Tsukishima clearly. She was surprised to see how tired he looked when he was normally immaculately presented.
“Busy day at the museum?” she pried, feeling a pang of sympathy for him.
“The worst,” Tsukishima sighed. His glasses moved up as he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “There were three separate school groups today and our usual tour guide called in sick so guess who was showing those snivelling brats around?”
Y/N assessed him before deciding to take pity on him.
“You know I’m actually baking to replace some of the product for tomorrow right now. If you’re willing to wait I could get started on the strawberry shortcake and have some ready for you in no time.”
“Oh... that’s fine-,” Tsukishima said, surprised by her offer. “I mean- if you want to-”
She waved her hands, interrupting him.
“Tell you what. How about I bake extra and you can take some home free of charge.”
“Only for my most loyal customer,” she added when he still looked unsure.
There was a shadow of a genuine smile on Tsukishima’s face before he responded.
“That would be great actually.”
Y/N motioned for him to follow her into the kitchen and tried to shake the uneasy feeling that was settling in her stomach. It was definitely odd to see him be genuine with her. Since he had first wandered into her store a few months ago it wasn’t often that they weren’t exchanging quick banter.
Maybe she had been a bit too forward in her offer to cook shortcakes, especially just for him and off the clock. Truthfully, since he had started showing up regularly she’d developed a little bit of a crush on him. It was a minor thing really. It was harmless fun to flirt with him over the coffee machine or fantasise about him on nights she couldn’t sleep.
Being alone with him in her cafe after hours was a whole new ballgame. She was already attracted to him and her nerves were being manifested into an electricity that pulsed through her body, putting her on edge.
This is purely professional Y/N reminded herself. I’m just keeping one of my regular customers happy.
She gestured around the kitchen as they entered.
“And here is where the magic happens.”
Tsukishima made himself comfortable, leaning on a bench as he watched her. She was pulling out ingredients and utensils to get started on the vanilla sponge. Noticing him staring at her, Y/N pulled a large tupperware from the fridge and handed it to the blonde with a knife.
“Make yourself useful and prepare the strawberries please.”
“Here I was thinking you were treating me, not putting me to work as your slave,” Tsukishima said as he lifted the lid and peered in.
“Just cut the greens off and chop ‘em up into quarters so I can get you something sweet quicker,” she added, as if he hadn’t said anything.
Tsukishima hummed in response and turned to the strawberries. There was something about the tone of his voice that made Y/N wonder if they both picked up on the unintentional double entendre. She swallowed and continued to ignore the growing unease in her stomach.
They fell into silence as they worked, which wasn’t actually as awkward as she had feared. Her body did feel warm- too warm at the close proximity to the object of many fantasies she’d dreamt up. It was lucky that she had done this recipe enough that she could do it with her eyes closed because the way his cologne lingered around her made it hard to concentrate. It didn’t help that she could feel Tsukishima’s eyes constantly looking over at her.
“I could give you the recipe you know,” Y/N finally laughed as he looked over at her for what felt like the hundredth time. “It’s not a secret or anything.”
Tsukishima shook his head and looked very serious as he contemplated her offer.
“No, I’ve tried lots of shortcakes before. It’s never the same as having someone else cook. And none of them have ever tasted like yours.”
Y/N looked down into the bowl she was mixing to try and hide the blush at the genuine compliment.
Tsukki being genuine multiple times in only a few minutes? Y/N thought to herself. That can’t be a good sign.
Y/N peeked a glance over at him, her eyes immediately being drawn to his lips and the way they closed around a strawberry, savouring the taste before it disappeared into his mouth.
Well actually Y/N changed her mind as she got lost in what else those lips could do. It could be a very good sign.
Y/N worked quickly and it wasn’t long before she got started on whipping the cream. Adding powdered sugar and vanilla extract in small doses, she would periodically stick her finger into the mixture bringing it up to her mouth for a taste test.
She paused when she felt his eyes on her again.
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself while I slave away for you,” Tsukki complained.
“Sorry, did you want some?” she grinned as she reached a finger into the cream she was whipping and swiped up a small amount. She reached out to him and wiped her finger against his cheek, smearing the cream there.
“What-?!” Tsukishima let out a strangled cry of disapproval. He looked at her disbelievingly for a moment before smirking as he closed the distance between them. At his tall height, he towered over her and his eyes flashed dangerously before he spoke again.
“You’re going to pay for that, pipsqueak.”
His voice was low and husky and it made her shiver. He was so close now she could feel the heat from his body, she could count his individual eyelashes, could even count the freckles around his mouth. Subconsciously she leaned in to meet him, her lips parting..
Like a quick flash, Tsukishima’s hands moved quickly and suddenly there was a coolness sliding down the side of her face. Y/N raised her hand to her cheek and withdrew it when she found a dollop of cream there, one that was significantly larger than the one she’d just wiped on him.
“Tsuuuki,” she whined, pouting.
“You’re right, that wasn’t fair,” Tsukishima cooed sarcastically. “Let me fix that for you.”
One of his hands reached around into Y/N’s hair to hold her in place before he leaned in and ran his tongue along her cheek in a single swipe, licking up most of the cream there.
Y/N breath hitched and looked up to find him staring at her intently, waiting for her reaction. She ignored the thoughts that crept up that told her sleeping with one of her customers in her workplace was not a smart idea and grinned up at him.
“I think you missed a spot,” she pointed out hopefully.
Tsukki’s lips descended onto her jawline again, dragging his tongue down lower to her neck, seeking any leftover cream.
Always eager to get the upper hand on him and while he was occupied, her hand blindly felt behind her searching for the whipped cream bowl. Picking up some cream with her hand she turned back to Tsukishima, ready to strike.
Quicker on the uptake though, he quickly grabbed her wrist in a tight hold.
“This is for me?” he asked, bringing her pointed finger up into his mouth so he could suck on the digit. His eyes stayed trained on her as he did so, something brimming in the depths of them that was entirely sinful.
“Here, want a taste?” He offered her his whipped cream covered finger.
Y/N nodded quickly and bridged the gap between them, her mouth closing around his finger. She eagerly ensured she sucked up all the cream, working her lips and tongue slowly while she relished in imagining his finger was a different part of his body. When she looked up at him with wide eyes, her mouth still around his finger, Tsukishima let out a groan.
“C’mere, you tease,” he murmured. He loomed over her as she backed up until she hit the counter behind her.
Y/N used her hands on the bench behind to help with leaning upwards to meet Tsukishima’s lips. Kissing him felt different than anything she’d ever imagined. It was so much better. He was calculated and deliberate in his movements. Moving slowly against her lips while Y/N’s movements were desperate as she frantically clung to the front of his shirt and responded to the kiss.
Barely pulling away, Tsukki’s strong hands moved down her body before picking her up and  sitting her on the bench behind her. Y/N’s legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him even closer.
Eventually he pulled away from the kiss, earning a needy whine from Y/N which made him click his tongue at her.
“Impatient are we?” he admonished.
Y/N ignored him and continued to kiss every inch of his skin she could reach. She was pressing her mouth on the tiny freckles she could see on his neck now they were this close.
“Ahhh..” he hummed in pleasure and moved his head to allow her easier access. He leaned over and pulled the bowl closer towards them.
“I just can’t seem to get enough of your shortcakes, you know.” He stuck his finger in the bowl to get some whipped cream again.
“You really want to talk about shortcakes right now?” Y/N complained as he pulled away and his soft skin was no longer near her mouth.
He rubbed it along her neck and moved in to drag his tongue against her again. Any more complaints died in her mouth as she stifled a moan over his wet tongue drawing circles across her skin.
“It’s just too sweet to resist,” he breathed, mouth still against her throat.”I can’t help myself.”
Her hands came up and tangled through his hair as she pressed herself against him, finding him hard and just as ready as herself.
Tsukki continued rubbing cream onto Y/N’s body and licking it up with his mouth while moving lower down. If Y/N had thought she was aching with lust before, this was nothing compared to the desperation she felt as he continued to tease her, his tongue moving from her collarbone to her cleavage. Her chest was heaving as fingers came to untie the apron and unbutton the shirt she had underneath, leaving her in just her bra.
He smeared whipped cream across her cleavage and slowly cleaned it away, savouring the sweetness. He carefully moved the bra aside so his mouth could work it’s magic on her hard nipples. Y/N moaned out his name and rutted her hips against him longing for any kind of friction - anything to just ease the tension that was going on inside her body. It seemed that no matter how much she whined though, Tsukishima continued his slow and methodical descent down her body. When she would attempt to reach for his own clothes, he would just smack her hands away.
When Tsukki finally passed over her belly button and reached her pants, she was leaning back for easier access. She helped him wiggle her pants off her legs, along with her underwear. The steel of the bench felt startlingly cool against her body, which was probably giving off enough heat to power an oven. His eyes were taking her in and she could see his pupils were so dilated they looked almost black. She understood that maddening lust though, with him standing over her, fully clothed, and her lying open - so wet and so ready for him. It made her feel incredibly vulnerable in a most delicious way.
He forced her legs to open wider so he could stand between her and she saw his eyes flicker towards the cream.
“Don’t even think about it,” she warned. “ You’ve wasted enough.”
Tsukki just smirked at her but acquiesced her request as he knelt down, leaving open mouthed kisses along her inner thighs. Her body felt like it was on fire from his constant teasing and when his tongue finally found her wet pussy she wanted to sob out of desperation from lack of release.
“Please, Tsukki,” she gasped out.
“Please what?”
“Please- please just let me cum.”
His pace was still agonisingly slow but he did move his mouth until he found her clit, teasing it with deliberate and controlled strokes of his tongue. He reached up with one hand and gripped her hand while his other hand joined his mouth, easing a finger inside of her before pumping it in and out. It didn’t take long for her to orgasm and she finally came undone crying out his name. He let her ride out her orgasm against his fingers, decreasing the tempo, before getting up so he could take her in.
“Look at you,” he murmured almost affectionately and she melted under his praise. “You make a much prettier picture like this than I ever could have imagined.”
Tsukishima unbuttoned his shirt before continuing.
“And oh, how long I have been imagining this.”
He slid his shirt off, revealing his sculpted body.
“How long I’ve imagined making you cum on my fingers.”
His fingers worked on his zipper now, pulling his pants off.
“Making you cum on my tongue.”
He pulled his dick out and gave himself a few strokes.
“On my cock.”
He rubbed himself against her slit, still maddeningly slow and calculated in his movements. Her nerves were still on fire and she cried out whenever she felt his dick brush against her clit or whenever he teased her entrance.
“Tsukki..” she panted.
“You ready, little one?”
“Tsukishima,” Y/N groaned. “Just fuck me already.”
He swore under his breath as he guided himself into her. Y/N winced internally at the sting of herself stretching to accommodate him. But it was only a slight pain that felt so good. The stretch felt delicious and Y/N wanted to make sure she would be reminded of this ache for days.
“Harder,” she moaned.
Tsukishima hips moved faster in order to set a tone that was absolutely punishing. He was brutally efficient as they both chased a high. Y/N was mewling wantonly and completely unrestrained from the aching lust he had built up but whenever he made a noise of pleasure it would reverberate through her entire core. It was truly a sight to behold whenever the often silent and always calculated Tsukki would allow the mask to slip in his lust. His hands grasped at her hips, gripping so tightly she felt she might bruise. She hoped she would.
He looked down at her and she knew he must see an absolute hot mess, mouth agape in a constant moan, frantically clutching at whatever part of his body she could reach, probably even still covered in dried whipped cream.
“I want to see you cum, okay?” Tsukishima ordered in a voice that was heavy with lust as he brought a finger down to rub her still too-sensitive clit.
It was all just too much and all she could do was whimper something she hoped sounded like agreement. She reached her second orgasm when his mouth found her neck, biting down gently on a sensitive spot near her shoulder. Crying out his name, her walls tightened and spasmed against him and it was only a few moments after that Tsukishima came undone too, cursing.
He came to rest against her, both their bodies sticky with sweat and pressed against each other. They stayed like that for a few moments, trying to catch their breath. Eventually Tsukishima spoke, breaking the silence.
“Does this mean I’m not getting that shortcake anymore?” he asked.
Y/N slapped his chest.

⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
The quiet is back.
But there is no peace, no relief in the monotony that follows after the man known as Shaw burst into your life like a bolt from the blue, stirring up long forgotten feelings like dead leaves animated by a carefree wind — here one minute, gone the next.
And with each passing day, hope erodes.
Little by little, your heart learns not to race as the clock above the magazine rack approaches 1:30.
It becomes harder to remember the sound purple sneakers made walking through the store.
You stop hoping, wishing, to see a head of lavender hair; that the next person to approach the register would place a cup of Pepsi mixed with Coke on the counter, amber-eyed gaze speaking volumes without uttering a single word.
Days become weeks, and then eventually…
…you stop counting them altogether.
* * *
“You’re looking good.  I see you’re doing well for yourself.”
He reaches for the jade pendant hanging around your neck, eyes flashing with amusement when you hit his hand away with an audible smack.
“What the hell do you want?  Haven’t you already done enough?” You say through grit teeth, steps quickening as you head for the better lit part of the street, trying to outpace the man and silently cursing the fact that returning to the convenience store was no longer an option at this point.
“C’mon baby, don’t be like that.  It took a lot of effort to track you down and I waited a very long time for you to get off work.  It’s cold, dark and lonely out here.  Is that any way to treat your boyfriend?  Or friend, at least?”
“ ‘Ex-boyfriend,’ asshole, and you’re no friend of mine, especially not after the way you took my life’s savings and ran.”
“Baby, it wasn’t like that—”
“Oh yeah?!  Did you try telling that to the loan sharks too before they came and trashed my place?  I had to move, Leto, because it wasn’t safe for me anymore, not with the way they kept harassing me and the neighbours asking about your whereabouts.  They even came to my office.  I lost my fucking job.  So don’t come around here and tell me that I’m doing well for myself.”
Breaking into a sprint, your mind races as you try to think of a way to lose your ex, anger and anxiety prickling every nerve in equal measure.  He had ruined your life, singlehandedly taken away everything you had.  And though you had known him once, desperation has a way of making monsters out of men.
And right now, for all you knew, he was desperate and dangerous.
“Please, I just want to talk.  I don’t need much this time, just a little bit to get me through this rough patch.  I’ll pay you back, I swear, just…just STOP FOR A MOMENT!—”
You shriek to feel Leto wrap his hand about your wrist, but before he could tighten his grip, another arm is thrown around your shoulder, pulling you back until you’re pressed up against a hard, muscular chest, staring at a close up of Snoopy riding a skateboard.
“You got business with my girl?”
That voice.  Dangerous and cocksure, yet comforting like nothing else as the muffled words reverberate through the tiny bones of your ear, a prelude to the soothing ba-bump of his heart, rhythm steady and concrete as the ground upon which you stood.
Shaw.
He’s really here.
“Hehe.  Your girl?”  The derision in Leto’s voice makes you sick to your stomach; you can’t help but hold your breath, waiting for the other shoe to drop as he looks Shaw up and down, zeroing in on his old t-shirt.  “Tsk, tsk.  So, not only do you enjoy wearing second hand clothing, you also have the habit of picking up sloppy seconds?”
BOOM!
Deafening thunder rolls moments after a bolt of lightning rends the night sky in two, throwing a jagged spotlight on the fury written on Shaw’s face when he moves just as fast to grab a fistful of Leto’s collar.  The muscles of his forearm bulge as he holds up the entirety of Leto’s bodyweight in one hand, the sky opening in a sudden downpour as your ex struggles in midair, rain dripping almost comically from dangling feet.
And when Shaw brings Leto’s terrified face up close, the ferocity in those amber eyes sends a chill up your spine.
“This is the last time you’ll ever talk to her, see her, even think about her.  Or else I’ll find you and take my sweet time making you wish you were never born, do you understand me?”
Head bobbing in vigorous nods, drops of water fly off the tips of Leto’s rain-slicked hair.  Seemingly satisfied, Shaw tosses him onto the ground at your feet, voice low yet audible as it cuts through the din of the storm when he says, “Beg for her forgiveness.”
The fear in his expression almost palpable, Leto looks between you and Shaw — cowardice etched onto features you had once found so pleasing a lifetime ago.  He prostrates himself onto the wet pavement, voice cracking in between sobs as he yells over the sound of the rain:
“P-please…please forgive me!  I’m a piece of shit!  I’m nothing, I’m garbage!  I…I deserve to go to Hell for what I did to you!  I-I’m so sorry!  Please forgive me!”
Leto reaches out a shaky hand towards your soaked shoes before he remembers Shaw’s warning, but it is too late.  Black combat boots hit the concrete hard within an inch of Leto’s face as Shaw stoops, yanking back a fistful of hair and pulling until your ex is looking up at you like a pitiful supplicant begging for mercy.
“Satisfied?”  Shaw looks to you as if he were asking about something as mundane as the weather.  You nod, suddenly too tired to even speak.  You wanted to wash your hands of Leto, wanted nothing to do with all that had happened since you finished your shift at the convenience store.  All you could do was watch as Leto scrambled away on all fours the moment Shaw loosened his hold, running until he was nothing more than a speck of darkness merging with the night.
The rain is cold, wetness driving against your body to leech even the final bits of warmth from bone.  Your clothes are drenched, heavy as they cling uncomfortably to skin.  But you are too drained to care, lacking the energy to even notice when the dim light of the streetlamp above is blotted out — Shaw holding his leather jacket over your head in the place of an umbrella.
All you are aware of before your vision goes dark is the anxiety in his voice when he calls your name over and over again, how weightless it felt to be carried in the cradle of his arms.
How much you missed the scent you thought you had learned to forget.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Finally awake, Sleeping Beauty?”
You opened your eyes to gaze into irises of warm amber, the situation similar to one you experienced before except for the fact that this time, you were the one lying in bed, staring at a man who sat on its edge, brows knit with concern beneath soft lavender strands.
“If you slept for any longer, I would’ve had to knock on your neighbour’s door.” Shaw chuckles but the sound is hollow, mirthlessness obvious like the blanched knuckles of his tightly clenched fists.
“What…how did we…” You begin, voice raspy as it dies, a sudden sharp pain in your throat making you wince.
And immediately, Shaw is on his feet, rummaging through cupboards in your kitchen until he finds a glass.  You watch him run the tap, fill it to the brim.  Feel the strength of his arm around your back as he holds you up, touch lingering even as you down the water in gulps to chase the discomfort away.
“You passed out not long after your douchebag of an ex ran off with his tail between his legs.  I found your keys in your purse, so I let myself into your apartment — hope you don’t mind.  Although, to be fair, I was also carrying you at the time, so it’s not really breaking and entering.”
Head feeling like it would explode as the events of the evening come rushing back, you turn towards him…slowly…slowly, afraid Shaw might disappear before your eyes should any movement prove too sudden.
Thank him.  Now.  Before he goes away again.
He is close, so close that you can count those long, beautiful lashes; almost feel the minuscule shifts in the air between you every time he blinks — those pupils encroaching onto gold as they expand and pulling you into their depths as they do.
“Why are you doing this?”
He doesn’t flinch at your question, and you can’t bring yourself to be shocked by the discrepancy between what you meant to say and the words actually spilling from your lips.  And as the grey memory of days spent counting the hours of his absence settles like lead in the pit of your stomach, the only thing you knew was that your heart couldn’t survive latching onto this sliver of hope only to have it ripped away again.
All you wanted…was the truth.
“Because I can’t stand to see you sad anymore.”
There is no smirk to stretch across that handsome face, only pain that hurts your heart to see it.  Resignation heavy in his voice, Shaw takes a deep breath before he continues.
“Turns out I’m weak when it comes to you.  Selfish.  I know I’m no good for you; there’s no future with me.  I can’t give you anything, can’t even promise you tomorrow, but…I just can’t stop thinking about you.  Wondering how you are.  Whether you’re eating well, sleeping well.  If you’re safe…happy.
“Tonight wasn’t supposed to happen.  I just wanted to make sure you got home okay, that some asshole wasn’t going to hassle you at work.  But then your ex showed up and when he tried to get fresh with you, well…I couldn’t let that slide.
“Listen, I don’t know what’s wrong with me but…I’m sorry, if I ever made you sad, if I scared you.  I’m sorry for everything.”
His gaze drops to the rip in his jeans, the drip, drip of the leaky faucet the only sound in the ensuing silence of his confession.  That is, until you say,
“I’m sorry too…that you’re such an idiot.”
His head whips up, brows furrowed and mouth slack as if caught in a rare moment of speechlessness.  The shock makes him seem years younger, lending him an air of innocence that you couldn’t help but smile at.
“In case it wasn’t obvious, I’m a grown woman, capable of making my own decisions.  I’m not so naïve that I don’t know what I would be getting into by being with you.  You say you can’t promise me tomorrow, but tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.  All we can ask for — hope for — is the here and now.
“Love takes courage, as does life.  But a life without love…it’s not much of a life, is it?  So I’m willing to be brave if that’s what it’ll take for us to be together.”
As quickly as they came, the words are gone, leaving you cotton-mouthed and faint as your heart pounds to send the blood rushing to your ears.  That could’ve been the only explanation as to why Shaw’s “I knew there was a reason why I loved you” sounded so muffled you had to ask him to repeat himself.
“Too bad, I only say things once.”
And there it is again: the spark in his eyes, smirk on those lips — igniting the fire you only allowed yourself to feel in dreams of his body on yours, skin to skin like kindling to flame.
“Are you that single-minded about everything?”  You ask, the smile on your face mirroring his as it approaches closer…
“Only when it comes to not letting go of the one I care about.”
…closer…
“Tell me one thing.”  Your voice is barely above a whisper.
…and closer still.
Lips now a hair’s breadth apart, the gentle rhythm of his exhalation blows soft upon your cupid’s bow; a shy request.  Your vision is filled with him, wonderfully awash with colour — lavender, amber, the soft pink of his mouth — and you wished you were the very clothes upon his body; saturated in his intensity, dyed in his hues.
His eyes fixate on your tongue when you wet your lips before asking, “That night, when you were hurt so badly you passed out in my store…why did you still insist on coming in?”
Shaw’s breath catches, hitching in his throat.  You know because you can feel it, the way the warmth stops short on your skin.  And when he speaks, the eyes that hold yours tell you this is no lie.
“Because if it was going to be the last night of my life, I didn’t want to go without seeing your face one more time.”
Love is a funny thing.  Formless, senseless, yet the strongest thing that could bind two strangers.  You hadn’t known Shaw for long, could count the days you spent together on one hand.  And still, entirely without reason, he bled into each and every hour, crept into the darkest corners of your mind to fill your weary heart with a desperation that made it very clear that love was far from done with you.
That right or wrong, the only place you wanted to be was here — held in the arms that wrapped around your body: hot, tight, safe…
…Shaw.
His lips are softer than you ever imagined when he brings his face to yours, plush silk gliding corner to corner to cover your mouth in reverent kisses — one for each night he came into your store, watched over you from afar.
Your stalwart protector.
You tasted it now, the remnants of cinnamon on his tongue from the gum he was so fond of chewing, intensified by the memory of all the times you wondered about its flavour: pink bubbles popping in his mouth as he coolly dealt with the robber, the night you emptied his pockets as your neighbour stitched him up on your bed.
Shaw tasted sweet.  Far sweeter than you ever imagined.
And when his tongue slides against yours — slow and sure as it explores your mouth with increasing fervour before drawing back just as you clenched around emptiness, yearning for more, the beast within you refuses to abide.
You like the shock that passes over his face when you move, sudden and forceful, to push him onto the mattress beneath you; the artless way Shaw sinks teeth into his bottom lip in response.  You like how he watches as you straddle his hips — gaze earnest and body honest, hardening as you grind undulating circles upon his groin.
But, perhaps most of all, you liked the spark of something wild in those amber eyes, an unpredictability warning that if you weren’t careful, you’d be the one to find yourself pinned to the bed.
Because wasn’t that ultimately the push-and-pull that characterized so much between you and him?  Maddening at times, but always, always binding you to Shaw like some red string of fate.
So you nod when he whispers “May I?”, unable to suppress a moan to finally feel his hands on you: tracing along your jaw, cradling your face…resting the pad of his finger on your lip before pushing past to stroke your tongue.
Every sound he makes pleases; the soft hiss preceding the bob of his Adam’s apple to feel your lips pucker around his finger to suck, pink tongue enticing as it swirls along the length of that digit, drawing it deeper into the hot wetness of your mouth.
You never saw yourself as seductive before, but Shaw made you feel sexy.  Perhaps the impulse stemmed from some primitive desire, an instinctive call to please the man you felt so profoundly for that shame was the farthest thing from your mind when you pulled his hand from your lips to guide it to your breast, only partially aware of how wet you were becoming from his gaze alone — half-lidded and heavy with lust.
The heat of his touch permeates your blouse, white and transparent still in patches from the rain.  You watch his hands as they play: cupping your breasts in a gentle squeeze, thumbs and forefingers catching your nipples to pinch and roll until they stood stiff against the drape of your clothing, the flush of your flesh bold through fabric.
“You’re so beautiful that there are times I think you can’t possibly be real.”
His voice is low, husky.  You let it wash over you, almost frightened by how stupidly happy you become, willing the magic to linger even as his words dissipate amongst the sounds of the night: neon buzzing and the faraway screams of sirens in the distance.
A world apart.
Your hands find the broad expanse of his chest, tracing along muscle before circling the nipples that stood erect against his damp t-shirt.  Each twitch is endearing, every erratic breath he draws to feel your touch making you fall harder.  And when he tries to focus on unbuttoning your blouse while fighting the impulse to tear it clean off your body, the stirring between your legs grows in intensity until he finally pulls the silken panels aside, a quiet gasp escaping his lips to see his necklace nestled between your breasts.
“It really does belong on you.”
The admiration in his tone is laced with a hint of possessiveness that makes you throb.  Shaw pushes himself to sitting, gathering you onto his lap in one smooth motion as he buries his face in your chest, inhaling deep.  You gasp to feel gentle teeth sink into the flesh of your breasts, Shaw following the chain of precious metal with his lips until it leads to the pendant.  And when his tongue slips out to draw the piece of jade into his mouth, he brings your nipple along with it.
“Oh!…”
The sensation is unlike any you’ve known before, the soft wetness of his pliant tongue a searing contrast with the cool, smooth stone rubbing against the sensitive tip of your breast in equal measure.  You feel his smile on your skin when you fist your hands into lavender hair, spine curving as your legs begin to tremble.
And he had yet to touch you below the waist.
“Your body responds so well to me.  I knew you were a good girl.”  He looks up at you, teasing shamelessly even as he continues to lavish attention on your breasts.
“Just your girl, if you’ll have me,” you say without second thought, long past the point of caring to keep your cards close to your chest.
Something breaks in that expression, the final walls crumbling like dust when Shaw blinks once…twice, revealing eyes that shine with emotion when he replies, “For the rest of my life, if you’ll have me.”
* * *
“Hmm!—”
Your moan is muffled, swallowed by Shaw’s greedy lips like he does with every sound of ecstasy that leaks like you do around his cock, buried impossibly deep in your body as it rocks back and forth, back and forth on his muscular thighs…
…doing your best to adjust to his ample size.
He had barely suppressed a chuckle when you first slipped your hand into his jeans, a subtle mix of pride and amusement on his face to see your eyes widen when you couldn’t quite wrap palm and fingers around the entirety of his girth.
And foreplay had only just begun.
“Still doing okay?” Shaw asks, touch tender as he brushes loose strands of hair from your eyes, lips smoothing along the apple of your cheek to feel its pink heat.  “We can go as slow as you want, there’s no rush.  If it’s too much, we can stop—”
“No!  No…I’m okay.  More than okay, I’m great.  Please…please don’t stop…don’t stop…”
Struggling to string words together, your breath comes in disjointed pants as Shaw begin to thrust up — the look on his face effortlessly sensual when he bites his lip to feel you spasm around him, tight wetness yielding in increments to accommodate his body as it broke new ground.
For you had never taken a man of that size, the litheness of Shaw’s muscular body belying the impressive package he’d been hiding in those jeans.  Your jaw ached just to look upon the length of that thick cock, mouth watering as a fresh wave of arousal made you press your thighs tighter together.  The movement didn’t go unnoticed.  Shaw had drawn you to him then — deft fingers dipping low to trace the outline of your swollen folds through moist panties, lavender head bending to kiss its lacy trim.
He took his time preparing you, licking his fingers before he eased them into your pussy — first one, then two…curling deep until the slippery sounds of arousal told him the time was ripe to introduce the third, leaving you blooming for him even as he whispered, “Think you’re ready for me to make you my girl for real?”
It borders on overwhelming, this sensation of fullness — between your legs, within your heart.  And as skin stretched to capacity to accommodate the sweet friction of his slide, you wished there was a way for the euphoria of this connection to last forever:
To the one you could never forget, no matter how hard you tried.
To this man you loved like no other.
“Shaw.”
His name is faint on your breath when he falls back onto the bed, taking you with him.  And as you found yourself straddling his hips once more, the altered angles of your bodies gave him the leverage to make you gasp when he begins to thrust in earnest.  The eroticism of his face, lost in lust, drives all thoughts from your mind as you drop a hand to your clit, fingers drawing tight circles before his hungry eyes.
The violence of your climax takes you by surprise, having no time to consider neighbours and thin walls as the lewdest sounds escape your lips at high volume.  Intense convulsions wracking your body in waves, you clench in time around your lover.  The sensation proves too much to bear, drawing out Shaw’s own release as he pulls out to spill onto the folds of your pussy — swollen and pink and trembling still beneath the coat of his pearlescent seed.
* * *
“I love you.”
Morning light trickles across your walls like the slow crawl of spidery legs.  Shaw’s words hang in the air between you, a final, sacred moment shared between lovers before the rest of the world wakes.
You loved the hoarseness in his voice; a testament to the hours of noisy lovemaking you had shared in lieu of sleep.
You loved the weight of his hand, stroking softly at the crown of your head.
You loved the rhythm of his heart, echoing just below your ear to confirm his existence.
“I love you too.”
You look up into those amber eyes, trying to discern whether those four little words were sufficient in conveying that fact that you adored every fibre of the man before you.
The smile that graces his face in return is tender, honest…more brilliant than the day breaking in the East.
Your hands find his body, bare beneath the sheets.  And as a curious finger traces along the ridge of the scar that runs in a broad stroke across his sculpted abdomen, your gaze falls on his t-shirt, draped over the back of a chair.
“You should probably throw that Snoopy shirt away, especially after what happened last night.”
Shaw follows your line of sight, chest rising and falling in a deep sigh.  “Shitty as its previous owner was, I could never bring myself to hate something that reminds me of you.  Aside from saving my ass, this was the first gift you ever gave me.  And I never throw away gifts from my girl.”
His girl.
The mystery of life is that filled with unknowns though it is, we continue to live, brave in the face of the uncertainty that comes with every passing day.  You had no idea what fate had in store for you or Shaw, had no way of knowing if your relationship existed on borrowed time.
The only thing you were certain of was that your feelings for each other were real, that try as you might, neither of you were very good at forgetting the other.  That in this moment, here and now, the only thing that mattered was this love that hit you…
…like a bolt from the blue.

Wrong Type of Comfort
This Imagine from @imagine-loki submitted by @jotun-philosopher gave me an idea for a small fic. Did not follow it much so there’s a twist to it.
Word Count : 1700
Prompt : Imagine Loki noticing you’re upset about something, so he turns himself into a huge purry fluffy cat and jumps on you to tromple you with his fuzzy lil’ paddy-paws and give you snuggles and headpushes
_______________________________________
Sometimes the world is just not on your side and you feel like it’s personally out to get you.
The last few weeks feel like you were running on autopilot. Going through the motions at work and crashing without any energy left at the end of the day.
The weekend finally arrived and you were able to relax around the tower. Tony had given you the weekend off when he noticed how beat up you were but it was now Sunday and all the sleeping and relaxing hadn’t helped at all. You still felt exhausted.
When you woke up this morning, you made your way to the shared living room. Since you had spent the last two days in your room to rest and it hadn’t worked, you thought that a change of scenery might help you recharge.
Tony was the first person to see you on the couch under your pile of blankets.
“Hey there Y/N! Are you feeling any better?” Tony asked you, trying to see where your head was under everything.
“Hi Tony, I thought the time off would help but I can’t seem to shake off this tiredness,” you admit popping your head up to see him clearly.
“You can take more time off Y/N. We need you on the team but we need you at a hundred percent. I want you to be okay and not burnt out,” You can see the worry in Tony’s eyes. You feel bad for making him worry so much.
“I can’t make you just wait for me Tony. I’ll be able to work tomorrow.”
“Don’t rush it Y/N, you can take at least another day okay? I don’t want to see you do any work before Tuesday, got it?”
“If that makes you stop worrying so much about me Tony, I’ll do it.”
“I always worry about you Y/N/ Now, do you need anything? Soup, tea, water.. anything?”
“I’m okay Tony, really please stop worrying about me.”
“Okay then. I’ll send someone to check on you in a few hours to make sure you’re eating,” with that he ruffled your hair and walked away.
You smiled and fixed up the hair that fell into your eyes. Having someone care so much about you feels good, but it’s not enough to completely lift the funk that you’re in.
Flipping the channels on the tv, you stopped on a cartoon that you enjoyed when you were younger and cuddled further into the couch. An hour into the movie, Steve comes in the room with a tray full of food.
“Tony sent me a message saying that you were in here and needed, and I quote, ‘a shit ton of food’. Is there anything that you want and don’t see here?”
“Thank you Steve but you didn’t have to do all of this! I won’t be able to eat it all.” He had brought you a giant bowl of mixed fruits, some eggs, pancakes, toasts, a few different kinds of jams, waffles with all the toppings, and a plate full of bacon.
“I can help with that,” Loki smoothly waltz in the room with a smirk. Loki and you weren’t what you would call friends but you would talk once in a while.
“I mean, if Steve is okay with it, he’s the one who made it all,” you look at him for his input.
“Go right ahead Loki I just ate, but make sure Y/N eats her share. Tony’s orders.”
You roll your eyes but Loki nods and comes to sit beside you on the couch. Once Steve leaves the room, Loki turns to you looking curious.
“So why are the Captain and robotic man so worried about you this time?” Loki asks when he pops a grape into his mouth.
“They’re just over reacting. I’ve been tired lately and all the sleep I had in the last two days hasn’t helped, but I’ll be okay.”
“Have you fallen ill?”
“I don’t think I have.” You hadn’t thought of that. You didn’t notice any more symptoms but that didn’t mean you didn’t have a small fever.
Loki surprised you by sitting closer and reaching his hand to touch your forehead. That is the first time he’s ever touched you and you weren’t expecting how smooth his hand was. You’ve seen videos of how he fights and you expected his hands to be rough.
“Well, your temperature seems okay but I wouldn’t be the best judge since, well, frost giant and everything,” he moves back to his previous spot on the couch and reaches for more food.
You chuckle and reach for some food as well. “Friday, could you check my vitals please?”
“Of course Y/N, your vitals are all good.”
“So no fever Friday?”
“Your temperature is normal Miss Y/N.”
“Thank you Friday. I guess you were right Loki.”
“I guess so, now make sure you eat enough of this before I get blamed.” Loki grabs the bowl of fruits and plops it onto your lap.
Talking to people and seeing them trying to take care of you is helping lift your spirits just a little bit.
“So what has been going on Y/N? Friday said there was nothing medically wrong,” Loki asks again, not pushing but curious.
“I think it’s mentally. I’ve been feeling a lot negative and low energy for the last few weeks and nothing seems to get better. Usually a good night’s sleep will help but lately it’s been dream after dream where I wake up even more stressed than I was before.”
“So you haven’t been sleeping well?”
“No. Even the last two days, the only thing I did was sleep and relax but it didn’t help me.”
“Could I try something to help?”
“Of course,” you nod almost enthusiastically, wanting anything to help you rest.
You watch as Loki completely disappears in front of your eyes and a black cat is sitting right where he was, the eyes are the same ones you were looking into a few seconds before just more cat-like.
The cat pads his way to you and head-butts your cheek before sitting next to the fruit bowl on your lap.
You smile sweetly at him until you feel a sneeze explode out of you. Once your eyes open, even Loki notices how watered they got. Another sneeze comes out and Loki jumps back to his previous spot and turns back into himself.
“What’s wrong? I thought you weren’t sick,” worry floods his eyes.
“No I’m not sick it’s,” another sneeze. “It’s only allergies. I’m allergic to cats,” and another sneeze.
“I am so sorry, darling!” You can see how bad Loki feels. “Is there something I can do?”
A sneeze comes out before you can start talking. “Could you just get my allergy medication from my bathroom?”
“Yes, of course!” Loki jumps up from the couch and disappears from the room.
A few seconds later, Loki comes back with the bottle of medication you needed and hands it to you. You pop a pill and swallow it between sneezes.
“I apologize, Y/N. I didn’t know you’d have a bad reaction like this.”
“It’s okay Loki, you didn’t know I was allergic. It’s not your fault.” By the end of the conversation your symptoms had already slowed down a lot. You’re sneezing stopped but your nose was still congested. “Thank you for trying to make me feel better.”
“Trying being the key word right?” You laugh. “Are you allergic to dogs as well?”
“No, I love dogs!”
Loki smirks and transforms himself into a beautiful black lab and makes his way towards you on the couch. You smile and pat his head when he rests it on your lap.
“Would you like some?” You ask Loki pointing to the fruit bowl next to his face. He just pushes the bowl a bit with his nose closer towards you.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be eating some too.” You pick up a piece of watermelon and put it next to his mouth.
You spend the rest of the morning like this, eating through the food tray together and finishing the rest of your movie, you even start another one. After all the food is gone you make yourself more comfortable on the couch and Loki does too, coming closer to you.
He head-butts your hand until you get the message and you start to pet him. The soothing motion of petting his soft fur slowly makes you fall into a comfortable, stress free sleep and Loki falls asleep as well.
A few hours later, Tony walks in to check on Y/N and what he sees is not something he’d ever imagine seeing. His little chuckle wakes up the dog on the couch. Loki slowly removes himself from next to you and makes his way toward Tony and by the time he’s in front of him, he’s back to his Asgardian form.
“One word of this to anyone and you will regret it,” Loki fumes into Tony’s face.
“Don’t worry Lassie, you helped Y/N feel better so I’ll keep your soft side a secret,” Tony smirks and leaves the room.
Loki’s furious face disappears when he turns around and sees you still sound asleep on the couch with a peaceful expression on your face. He makes his way closer to you and makes sure you’re covered under your blanket then picks up everything around and brings it all to the kitchen.
“Did she eat some of it or did you eat it all?” Steve asks when he sees Loki dropping off the empty food tray.
“She ate most of it actually. After she got comfortable she ate a lot more. She’s sleeping peacefully now so don’t go rushing in there.”
“Tony sent out a message just a few minutes ago to the whole tower saying not to bother her.”
“Of course he did,” Loki rolls his eyes and turns to leave the room.
“Hey, Loki. Thanks for helping her,” Steve sincerely says.
Loki nods and leaves the room. You might be able to call your relationship a friendship now.

My Hero (Alex Mahone)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Request: Can you do a Alex mahone x reader where she's his wife, adn he saves her from T-bag something like that?
Warnings: spoilers from 4x21, bad language, abuse, mention of rape, (basically I should mention T-Bag himself as a factor to be warned about), anxiety attack, crying
A/N: Of course I’ve written this based on 4x21, the episode called Rates of Exhange. And, to be honest I’m quite happy with this one. Not exactly the first part (some lines I’ve borrowed in whole from the serie😬), but the ending! I hope you’ll like it too! ✨
Sorry for it took so long (meaning here every request I’m indebted to you with), but I’m so so thankful for your patience and request and feedbacks ofc!!
[gifs are not mine; I can’t get over how they complete each other😆]
Basically, the whole team minus T-Bag and myself was out on the field, trying to fight against Krantz and Michael’s mother at the same time. It turned out that it wasn’t just a coincidence that we were the ones left alone in our temporary flat. Because what we all had no idea about was me being the bait and the motivation for them to be successful – or at least in Krantz’s opinion and give the Scylla to him.
I was so naïve, believing T-Bag could ever be capable of a complete turnaround. He was so co-operative in the past weeks, so generous, so helpful… of course he had a hidden motivation back then, too, he always had. But it wasn’t at least me dead or the Scylla in Krantz’s hands.
I realized that it’s going to be not so okay, when the General phoned Michael, giving him an ultimate. Of course, it turned out shortly that there weren’t going to happen any bargain at all, and finally Kratz threw me in front of Theodore just like that. He left us alone in the flat, letting him (even urging him) to do anything he liked with me.
I was shaking, trembling all my body while T-Bag pushed me leaning to the door. I couldn’t see any solution what could save my life or get me out of here. I needed Mahone, only him. I truly desired to cry out his name, but I knew I had to stay focused and calm as long as I could. So, I just let him to handcuff me to the handle.
“Theodore, I promise you, if you let me go, I will stand by your side at the court. I’ll tell them you saved my life. Even Alex will be so grateful… just take me back to him” I started pleading desperately, but with a fairly strong voice. I couldn’t help but wincing when he suddenly stepped close in front of me, with his face inches from mine.
“You know, all these past times, I’ve always been so… so jealous! You get what I mean, right? Look at you, precious little girl” his eyes nearly scanned me through as he stopped for a moment, disgustingly licking his lips, “being married to that… dull, fuddy-duddy policeman. Don’t ya really think I won’t have myself a little fun, when it’s only the two of us?”
“I know that you don’t have the best relationship with Alex” I said immediately. I felt I had to talk, unless he would touch me or do even worse things to me. “But if you let me go, if you take me back to him, he won’t be ungrateful, trust me.”
“Oh, I don’t wanna hurt you. I wanna hurt him. And unfortunately, the only thing which can be hurtful for him is you being hurt. But don’t worry. You’ll be returned in one piece. Only in a little… used… piece” he winked at me, and my stomach flipped.
“Please, Teddy” I whispered. All my strengthen flew away in a second. My thoughts were rattling in my head, I was panting, sweating. He decided to walk past me, and as he took a few steps, he sniffed my neck. Cold, disgusted feeling ran down my spine, but I relieved when I couldn’t see him, even if it lasted only for few minutes.
Suddenly I felt the warmth of his body behind myself. He uncuffed me for a brief moment, only to separate my two arms, and cuffing them back to the two sides of the door so I faced him forward. I tried to fight him, but my weakness could do so little against his manly strength.
“We’re gonna finish sooner than you would recognise, my dear” he whispered straight in my ears, before stepping a bit further from me. My panting, heavy breathing echoed in the small room. I tried to detach myself from the situation. I started a mantra inside. Alex will come soon. Alex will save me. I must be strong just until then.
“Oh, look at that” Theodore smirked suddenly. At first, I hadn’t even had any idea, what could he see. I glimpsed at my trembling hand, and realized, just when he spoke again. “Look. At. That. What a beautiful wedding ring. Well, you know, it’s actually so good to see that Mahone has feelings too. But tell me, my dear little bird, has he been man enough to… go there?” he asked in a low voice, husky by the suppressed desire. He moved his hip and if I weren’t lucky enough to be able to back a few inches, our skin would join.
His eyes jumped back and forth between mines and my lips. My stomach was spinning, and I truly fought not to burst in tears. Somehow, I managed to strengthen my voice to retort.
“Alexander’s more a man than you could ever hope to be” I breathed through my teeth, managing myself to look him straight into the eyes.
“That was mean” he said in a pitying voice, backing a step. “I wonder if you’d be so harsh if you knew how long I’ve waited for this. Our little shared private moments. You wouldn’t behave like this, am I right?”
I didn’t answer, only turned my head as sideways as I could.
“What if we… take this off?” he teased. “As I see, this is only distracting you. I’m afraid you won’t enjoy… me… enough if it keeps disturbing you” he said, and after that he truly pulled the thing off.
“You can take my ring, but you never can make me relish anything you do” I said suddenly, even surprising myself with the strength of my voice. “You’re a disgusting human being, and if you’ve ever wondered why nobody loves you, let me enlighten some things. You’re incapable of love, Theodore Bagwell. Not with your body, not in your mind. Every touch of you is filled with brutality, violence, and you’re nothing but a filthy rapist who…”
I could continue, using even stronger and uglier words, but he slapped me so strong I banged my head in the glass, and if it wasn’t for my handcuffs, I would surely fall to the ground. “Listen here carefully” he hissed. I could barely hear him because of the blood rushing through my veins so loudly after the hit. “Now I’m going to show you, how functional and tender I can be.”
I heard the zipper of his pants opening, but I wasn’t strong enough to prepare for the next minutes. I couldn’t even open my eyes, only relying on my hearing. But instead of feeling fingers pressing on my neck or hands ripping my clothes off (as I imagined the next things would be) … I heard a crash. A crash like when you break something wooden. Steps, shouting, skin slaps skin. Alex’s voice. Alex’s voice!
I forced myself to open my eyes. It was Mahone, who searched for something around T-Bag. He was lying on the floor with a closed eye and a ripped eyebrow. Just in the same second, Sucré rushed into the room.
“Get this pig out of my sight” Alex hissed to him just before he could get surprised by the unconscious Theodore Bagwell. Mahone’s voice echoed firmly in the frozen air. Fernando nodded quietly, while Alex stood up and turned all his attention to me. “I’m here, Y/N” he stated, while his shaking hands found the closure of the handcuff, put the key into it and freed me. “Are you hurt? Are you bleeding?” he kept asking.
I couldn’t talk, not yet. When my loved one freed my hands, he immediately pulled me close to him, as I burst in tears. Luckily, he kept me by holding my waist, otherwise I would fall to the ground. All the suppressed tension surfaced, and all I was capable of was crying, unstoppably.
“Can you put your arm around my neck?” Mahone asked me softly. “I’ll take you out of here.”
I did as he asked, simply let him to carry me anywhere he’d like. Honestly, those few minutes are just blind spots in my mind. All I can remember is his strong arms holding me, tears leaving burning trails on my cheeks, the spicy, aromatic and so familiar scent of Alex’s fragrancy, and his soft tone whispering my ears: “I love you. I love you so much, and nobody could hurt you, ever.”
He found a bedroom empty which we could chose as a temporary shelter. Alex carefully placed me on the sheets, then sat in front of me. My sobbing subsided as I slowly realized that he is the one holding my hand, he is the one breathing with me, and if this is so, nothing else matters.
“Y/N, please tell me just one thing” he asked as he wiped the tears under my eyes. “Did he touch you? Even with one finger?”
“No” I breathed so quietly I wasn’t even sure if I said out lout. “No, he was just… playing” I added. Then I realized, what else happened, and the tears which just disappeared a second ago fogged my sight again. “But Alex, he took my ring” I looked into his eyes scared. “He took it off my finger, but I didn’t see his hands and I have no idea what he did with it.”
“It’s okay” he smiled, lifting my chin up. “You’re fine, and I don’t care anything else.”
As I was fighting with guilt and Alex just wanted to pull me close. When I leant to his chest, he placed a long kiss on my forehead.
“Can you forgive me?” he whispered suddenly. I furrowed my brows, but he continued before I could ask what he meant. “I let this monster… to be alone with you, to do anything to you… and if it wasn’t for Michael, he would have done anything.”
“It’s not your fault, Alex” I ensured him, hugging his chest even closely. “You couldn’t have known. It was a part of their sick game” I continued with slightly breaking voice. “You’re my hero. Truly.”
I felt him taking a deep breath, but the silence remained still. Before any of us could speak again, we heard the door opening. I snapped, stood up frightened, but it was just Sucré smiling shyly.
“I bet this is yours” he said and came inside to place some tiny in Mahone’s hand. He nodded happily and wide smile started to form on his lips, but I was too dizzy yet to realize what is that.
When Fernando left us alone, he looked at me and offered his palm for me as he would ask something.
“Show me your hand.”
I did as he asked, placed my hand upon his, realizing what did our friend find. Alex put the not-so-long-lost ringlet on my finger, just as he did back at our wedding.
All kind of feelings were swirling in my head, but there were two eternally sure thing. Alex by my side and his undying love for me.

Out Cold
Dean Winchester x Reader
Warnings: sick!reader, some cursing, Dean being a big softie
Summary: after a particularly harsh hunt, the reader returns to the bunker worse than when she left. Dean goes into mother hen mode.
A/n: I know there are about a million fics like this already, but I’m a sucker for em, so I wrote one myself. I hope y’all enjoy! (Gif credit goes to owner.)
Tumblr media
“Dean, would you please keep your eyes on the road?” Sam sighed, shifting once more in the backseat as he glanced between You and Dean. The younger brother having been generous enough to let you take his normal seat on the way back from the hunt.
“I’m sorry, but don’t you think this whole thing is weird?” Dean motioned with his freehand at the figure next to him.
“That she’s sitting up front?”
“No!” He quickly shook his head, “She’s asleep. Y/n never sleeps in the car. Ever.”
Sam sunk back in his seat, rolling his eyes, “We just finished up a massive hunt. She’s probably tired, Dean.”
“But I’m telling you, she never sleeps during drives. Even when she is tired.” Taking his eyes away from the road once more, he looked back over at you, your head resting against the window. Even in your unconscious state, your eyebrows were furrowed almost like you were in pain, and your skin looked a shade paler than normal. You mumbled in your sleep, shifting to try and find a more comfortable position.
Yes, something was not right.
“When she wakes up, I’ll ask her.” Dean sighed, eyes going back to the road, his concern clear on his face, allowing Sam to see it in the rear view mirror.
Dean was always worrying about you though. There was nothing new about that.
*. *. *. *. *.
You were out cold for the remainder of the drive, which only allowed Deans worry to grow. Sam passed out eventually, leaving Dean in total silence as he drove the final stretch back to the bunker, the clock on the dashboard telling him it was close to one in the morning. The almost orange glow of the passing street lamps illuminating your face as he drove down the empty streets of Lebanon. The only noise coming from the engine and the soft drone of the radio turned down low.
You always said this was your favorite time. The world was quiet and peaceful. It was one of the reasons you always stayed up during drives. You liked watching the chaotic world fizzle out and get replaced with this dark serenity. But for once, you were unconscious and missing it.
Eventually the wheels of the impala rolled into the bunkers garage and the vehicle was put into park and turned off, the normal hum of the engine now gone and replaced with total silence. The change being enough to shake Sam awake.
“She still out?” He yawned, rubbing the sleep from his eyes as he sat upright.
“Yeah,” Dean sighed, pocketing his keys as he turned to look at you. In proper lighting, he could now see how pale you really looked, along with the thin layer of sweat coating your skin. “Just go to bed. I’ll take care of her.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah.”
There was a moment of silence before the familiar click of the door opening, Sam sliding out of the backseat with his duffel and lazily making his way into the depths of the bunker. It wasn’t long after that Dean climbed out of his seat, walking around the hood of the car to open your door.
At the sound, you shifted again, slightly opening your eyes to quickly see where you were. The only thing catching your hazy thoughts was the set of green eyes looking at you with worry.
“Are we home?” You mumbled, still trying to chase the sleep that was settled heavy over you.
“Yeah, we’re home.” Dean smiled, squatting down to your level, “how you feeling?”
“tired.”
The hunter shifted on the balls of his feet, pressing the back of his hand to your forehead, “Jeez, y/n. You’re burning up.”
You let out a yawn, eyes closing as you leaned into his touch, his skin so much cooler than your own. “I’m fine.”
“Yeah, try again.” Dean huffed, bringing his hand back down to his side, “you’re sick.”
“Mmm no I’m not.”
Dean let out another sigh. It was like talking to a brick wall. “Yes you are. Luckily, you have me though.” He smiled, standing up slightly so he could tuck his arm underneath you, hoisting you out of the vehicle and into his arms, earning a groan of protest from you.
He took his time carrying you down the hallway , trying not to jostle you around too much as you did tend to let out a whine every time he did. He could feel the heat from your skin through his shirt, your head resting in the crook of his neck. You felt so fragile in his arms, like one false move would make you crumble.
Pushing his back against your slightly ajar door, he stepped into the dark of your room, using one of his elbows to flip the switch. Luckily the heat had been turned off while you were all away from the bunker, leaving your room much cooler than normal. Hopefully that would somewhat help cool you down.
“You just had to go and get sick, didn’t you?” He sighed, being as gentle as possible as he laid you down on the bed.
“Don’t be mad at me.”
“I’m not mad. It just hurts me to see you like this.” He smiled, brushing a strand of hair away from your eyes, feeling the heat radiating off your skin as he did.
“You should go to bed. You’ve been driving for hours and it’s past one in the morning.” You mumbled.
“Yeah, that’s not happening. We need to get that fever down. Plus, I’m not tired. I’ll get my four hours eventually.”
“If I wasn’t so weak, I would hit you.” You sighed, shifting your head on the pillow as you closed your eyes.
“Oh, I know you would.” Dean chuckled, squeezing your hand, “I’ll be right back.”
With that, he gave you one last look and departed from your room, disappearing down the dimly lit hallway.
Dean Winchester never ceased to amaze you. He usually gives off a tough exterior, but deep down he was just a big softie. You loved that about him. You never asked him to take care of you, but he always did. There weren’t proper words for how thankful you were for him.
It was only a few minutes later that he returned, a bottle of water and container of ibuprofen gripped in his hands, along with a neatly folded washcloth.
“Alright, sit up.” He sighed, the bed dipping under his weight as he sat down, passing over the water before unscrewing the lid and fishing out a couple pills. You gave him a small thank you, swallowing them down with a generous gulp of water. Another wave of dizziness worked over you, making you lean back with a groan.
“I’m dying aren't I?”
“You’re not dying. Now stop being dramatic.” Dean sighed, leaning forward to press the cool cloth to your head.
“You must like being a mother hen a lot.” You groaned, hand going to rest atop Deans, which still held the cloth to your forehead.
“I do not!” He exclaimed, only to pause, shoulders dropping, “fine, it’s like crack to me.”
“I knew it.” You smiled, sending him a small wink.
“Alright, shut it.” Taking the bottle back off your nightstand he handed it over once more, “You need to keep drinking. We gotta keep you hydrated.”
“I don’t wanna.”
Deans head fell back as he let out a groan, “You're a damn child, you know that?”
“Yes.” You smiled, taking the water bottle from his hand and taking a few more sips. Even if Dean had just sent you a small smile, you could see the worry on his features. Lowering the bottle from your lips, you set it back down. “You don’t need to worry, Dean. I’m just a little sick. Happens to the best of us.”
“I can’t help it. I’m always worrying about you.” He admitted slowly, taking your hand and pressing a firm kiss to it.
You felt your heart skip in your chest at his action, and then the added heat growing to your face. He was so gentle. So caring. And no matter how long you had known him, it still amazed you.
When Dean saw the redness creeping up your cheeks, his worry continued to grow. “Woah, are you getting worse?” He questioned, peeling the cloth from you forehead and replacing it with the back of his hand.
You quickly slapped his hand away, instantly regretting it once you saw the hurt expression he was wearing. “I’m sorry. I -“
“No. Don’t apologize. I’ve been bothering you since we got back. Hell, I woke you up.” Dean shook his head, hands falling to his side in defeat. “I was just trying to help.”
“I know, but let me just apologize. I didn’t mean to smack your hand away like that. I just freaked out when I realized you made me blush.”
You watched his expression change, his eyebrows knitting together, “what did I do exactly to make you blush?” He mused, giving you a small grin.
Damn him. Damn him and his big green eyes and childish grin. He was going to be the death of you.
“I’ve said too much already.” You groaned, taking the extra pillow besides you and pressing it over your face, hiding your new found embarrassment. Your plan didn’t last long, because you heard him let out a light chuckle, his fingers wrapping around the pillow and prying it from your face.
“Oh, don’t go hiding from me now. I still gotta take care of my patient.” He smiled, giving you that soft gaze that always made you feel like a pile of goo.
And then the bastard had the audacity to lean down and press a firm yet gentle kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering for a moment before he pulled away, his calloused hand resting on the side of your face making you shiver.
“You cold?”
All you could do was nod, still rendered speechless and scarlet from his gentleness. He pushed off from his seat on the bed, picking up your legs so he could pull your comforter over your now shivering body. You couldn’t help the whine that escaped you as he did. Your muscles still ached and every little bit of movement had you feeling nauseous.
“I know, I know. Just bear with me Sweetheart.” Dean sighed, sitting back down once the comforter was tucked snugly around you.
“You’re a fucking great human being, you know that?” You yawned, nestling deeper into you comforter in hopes of getting warmer.
“I try.” Dean smiled, kicking off his boots and discarding his jacket as you laid down next to you, gently wrapping his arms around you and pulling you close.
“Dean, you’re gonna get sick if you stay.” You mumbled, finding it impossible to not curl into the warmth he was giving you. You didn’t want him to get sick.
But he was so warm. . . And he smelled so good.
“I don’t care. You’re stuck with me.” He sighed, closing his eyes once he was comfortable, “now go to sleep. You need rest.”
“Okay, but if you get sick, both Sam and I are gonna beat your ass.” You yawned again, tucking your head against his chest as sleep quickly found you once more.
*. *. *. *. *.
Sam has to do a double take the next morning as he walked past your open door, which was usually always closed. Shifting the books that were in his hand, he backtracked, tilting his head in confusion as looked into your room.
The lights were still on, but both you and Dean were out cold. His brother was wrapped tightly in your comforter, shivering even in his unconscious state while you were sprawled out next to him, having kicked off the sheets in the middle of the night.
In simple words: you both looked like crap.
The younger Winchester let out a sigh, rubbing his face, “So it looks like I’m gonna have to take care of both of you now, huh?”
He should have known this would happen. When it came down to you and him, Dean couldn’t help but go into full mother hen mode. . . and unfortunately that sometimes resulted in the idiot going and getting himself in the same exact mess.
The End.

“I was just wondering if I could request some George fluff? I’m having a really bad week due to anxiety and I’m in dire need of something to make me feel better :( maybe something like George comforts the reader whilst they’re feeling low and anxious?”
Tumblr media
Pairing: George Memeulous x Reader
Word Count: 1.8k+
Pronouns: They/Them
______________
They hadn't been doing that well, Y/n couldn't help but feel stress overwhelm them more often. Little things had started to become so much more distressful for them, such as getting to the right place on time. They just felt like so much was on their plate. Y/n had started to go to bed later and wake up earlier. They had begun to cut out time with friends, Y/n just felt so busy. Even when Y/n got a bit of free time, they didn't feel free. It felt like Y/n had just forgotten something. So even when they were able to take a moment to themself and just breathe, they couldn't. They needed to keep working. When Y/n finally found time to relax, they never could. Their mind would start to just pick at themself, over-analyzing every moment that passed. 'Why did you do that?' 'You don't look good at all today.' 'She doesn't actually wanna hang out with you today, she's just saying that to be nice.' 'Stop being such a bore.' 'People are gonna think we look bad.' Just being an overthinker was one of the reasons Y/n had tried to keep busy. If they had their mind on other things, they wouldn't be able to pick at their own insecurities. Y/n understood this may not be the best way to deal with their anxiety and stress, but it definitely made them feel better about themself. They would rather become unnerved over the amount of work they would put on their own plate instead of being anxious over their insecurities. Y/n had known this wasn't healthy. They knew it wasn't smart of them to push their friends away only to focus on getting random tasks done. And they weren't the only one who knew it. Their boyfriend had noticed almost right away. George and Y/n had been dating for a little bit over a year now, over time they had ended up developing a relationship where they weren't just in a relationship, but they had also become good friends. George had learned how to read Y/n like an open book, so he could tell when something was certainly wrong. As soon as Y/n had started to busy themself with constant work, he had noticed it. Every time he had tried to get Y/n to go on a date night, they said no. 'I'm sorry, Georgie. I took on my coworker's shift Friday night.' 'What about Saturday?' 'This weekend I'm planning to visit my cousin to help her set up her nursery for my niece.' A small bit of George was worried. Maybe Y/n was only doing all of this to keep themself away from him. What if they had decided they no longer wanted a relationship with him and was planning to break up with him? As the days rolled on, and Y/n stayed busy, George just needed an answer to everything. He needed to know if this was Y/n's way of showing him they lost interest in their relationship. He knew that at this point there was no telling when Y/n would be at their flat considering how they always wanted to be on their feet. So one afternoon, he found himself at the front door of his partner's flat, his spare key in hand. As soon as he stepped inside the flat, he could tell no one was there. All the lights were off, throw pillows on the living room couch had been tossed about the room messily while George could notice rings on the glass of Y/n's coffee table. It was strange, whenever it came to the coffee table, they made sure to use coasters. Why suddenly start leaving marks on the table Y/n had tried to keep clean since they first got it? Walking into Y/n's kitchen, George had been surprised by the untidiness. It was normal for Y/n to be a clean person. Every time he had come over to their flat, their home wouldn't be immaculate, but it still would look nice. Some days when Y/n would come over to his and Alex's flat, they'd clean up a bit there too. Deciding to continue to take a look around, George had begun to wander about Y/n's flat. He did feel a bit bad for poking around, but he just wanted to see if the rest of Y/n's flat was as unclean as the living room and kitchen had been. He had been surprised by seeing Y/n's bathroom, toiletries had been placed out atop their bathroom counter. It seemed like Y/n had placed it all out so they could quickly grab something then place it back down without a care. Y/n's bedroom was the worst. Clothes had been tossed around, some items being wrinkled upon the ground. Their bed was a mess, one of Y/n's four pillows had disappeared from the room. Somehow Y/n had gotten a crease in one of their curtains. If someone had told George he had walked into a stranger's flat, he would believe them. None of this seemed like Y/n, it felt off to know their home had become this messy. After walking back into Y/n's living room, George had noticed the picture frame sitting on the hutch in the corner of the room. It held a photo of Y/n and him from the time they had gone on vacation together. Y/n had decided that they wanted to go to Disneyland for their one year anniversary, so that's what they did. In the photo, George was holding Y/n as they placed a kiss on his cheek. It had been taken in front of the castle before they had spent the whole day in Fantasyland. Something was obviously wrong with Y/n, considering how everything was going. A messy flat, trying to keep themself away from their friends, but always trying to stay too busy. Making his way into the kitchen, George had decided to help Y/n out a bit.
It was 10:30 when Y/n finally got back to their flat. They originally had gotten off from work four hours earlier, but they had chosen to take another one of their friend's shifts for them. Y/n just wasn't ready to come back home to an empty flat. When their flat would be empty, it would only cause their mind to fill with anxious thoughts. It always felt like their anxiety would end up screaming at them. 'You're not good enough.' 'None of your friends like you.' 'You're not beautiful, you never will be beautiful.' Walking down the hall, Y/n checked their phone. No missed calls. No texts. Nothing. Nothing from their friends. Nothing from their boyfriend. Maybe they were right, maybe their boyfriend was losing interest in them. Just as they had entered the flat, a prickling sensation shot down their spine. Someone was in their flat. Right away they had heard the TV from the living room with the light of the electronic illuminating the hallway leading into the room. Y/n was just tempted to leave, call the police to come to search their flat for anyone. But they had been in a rush that morning. They had wanted to get to work earlier to get a few shifts done early (but had only been told by their boss to take a break so instead they went and grabbed a coffee, trying to burn time). But they could've ended up leaving their TV on without realizing it. Y/n would feel bad if it turned out to just be the latter and they were overreacting. What if they had ended up calling the police only to realize they left their TV that morning? 'The officers would hate you.' 'They'd find it annoying they came out to waste their time.' 'God, you're an idiot.'
"Y/n? Is that you?" The sound of someone's voice echoed down the hallway. As soon as Y/n heard the voice, relaxation overcame them. It was only George, their boyfriend. But just as quick as they relaxed, they tensed up. This could be it. This could be the moment their relationship ended. He could've been waiting in Y/n's flat for hours, preparing his apology to come with dumping Y/n. "Uh, yeah," they called out meekly, slowly walking into the living room. Right away, they had been surprised by the sight. Their flat looked completely different than it did this morning. Everything was much tidier than they had left it. George sat on the couch, an unamused look on his face. Oh no. "Y/n, where have you been? I've been worried about you." "I've... I've just been busy." "Busy with work? Have they been giving you too many shifts?" Yes. "No," taking a seat beside their boyfriend, Y/n lied through their teeth. "Has there just been something going on? Is this your way of showing me you're losing interest? I thought we'd last a lot longer than this. I mean-" "No, no, no. George, none of this has been connected to you." A panicked look appeared on Y/n's face as George spoke. Y/n felt terrible, they felt guilty for making George think they had been planning to break it off with him. "I've just had a lot of anxiety for a while now, and it just feels like it builds up every time I have free time. I just needed some way to keep it all away. Working extra shifts just... made it feel better in a way." Silence followed as George took in everything Y/n said. His silence had only made their fear increase, maybe he was planning to break up with them. "Y/n... I want you to know I'm here for you. I understand anxiety isn't fun. I love you." George had taken his partner's hands into his. His thumbs rubbing gently over Y/n's hands as he watched them. Y/n couldn't help but crack a smile from hearing what George had to say. It did mean a lot to them. "I'm sorry I've been so distant with you, Georgie. And I'm sorry I haven't been really hanging around my friends. I've been a mess, I've been such a fucking mess." As Y/n spoke, their voice practically broke. George felt bad for them, he never was someone who had to suffer anxiety as Y/n did. Carefully, he held their face in his hands, making Y/n look up at him. Their eyes were teary-eyed. "oh, Y/n... please don't apologize for being human," he cooed softly. "You're allowed to feel. You're allowed to get anxious. You're a human being, it's normal for you to feel this stuff." "I'm just so sick of feeling this way, George." "I promise it'll get better. I thought maybe this weekend me and you could go on a trip together? A small vacation just to relax?" He cracked a gentle smile at his partner, watching as they thought it over. After a few seconds, they gave their answer. "Only if you spend the night." George's smile had widened into a cheeky grin. "Deal."

John B said very little the next day. His mind was fixed on Gwen, but not in the same way it usually was. When he thought of her, it left a bitter taste in his mouth, but he had no idea why.
“Dude, are you okay?” Pope asked. “You’ve been spacey all day.”
John B looked up from his cheeseburger and up at his friend. Pope dipped a fry in his milkshake, waiting patiently for an answer.
“Do you ever get a feeling that something is wrong?” John B dropped his hands to the booth beside him.
“What do you mean?”
“I dunno.” He scratched behind his ear, thinking about how exactly to phrase what he was trying to say. “Last night Gwen was being really...strange and ever since she left, I’ve just had this bad feeling.”
Pope swallowed, giving himself time to mull over his answer. John B wasn’t really expecting much, but when he needed a reality check, Pope was always the guy to go to.
“It’s Thursday, right?” John B nodded his head. “Then you have group tonight. You’ll see her there.”
“You’re right.”
“I’m sure you just ate something bad yesterday. Nothing to worry about,” Pope told him, shoving a few more milkshake covered fries into his mouth. John B nodded his head slowly, turning to look out the window.
Pope was probably right. It was only a few more hours until group. He would see Gwen there like he always did. So why wasn’t the bad feeling going away?
“Hey,” Pope said, pulling John B’s attention back to the present. “If something is wrong, we’ll figure it out. Together.”
John B nodded again. He wanted to believe his friend, he really did. But he had been trying to convince Pope, Kie, and JJ his dad was still out there for months, but none of them really believed him. No one did. Except Gwen. If something did happen to her, would his friends really believe him this time?
He had been planning on going out on the boat with the Pogues, but he wasn’t feeling it. The constant twisting in his stomach was making him sick. He didn’t want to eat anything, didn’t want to do anything. He just wanted to sit around and call Gwen. But when she first gave him her number, she had asked him not to call her during the day. He didn’t want to push her boundaries that she had set up. Still, not calling her took all of the strength he had in his bones.
“What should we do?” Kie asked, watching him through the window. JJ sighed and ran his hands through his hair.
“Leave him?” JJ offered. Kie slapped his chest with the back of her hand.
“He was like this the first few days before....” Pope trailed off, but Kie knew what he was talking about. She lowered her head. “It didn’t stop until Peterkin finally told him that Big John was missing.”
Kie let out a heavy sigh.
“What did you guys do then?” She asked, looking at her two friends. JJ and Pope both shrugged. Kie rolled her eyes and pushed the front door open. She sat next to John B on the couch, but he didn’t even recognize that she was there.
“John B,” she said, her voice set at a whisper. John B paled and shook his head, so she didn’t say anything else.
“It’s still a few hours before group,” he told her, putting his hands over his face. “But I’m so worried-”
“Hey.” Kie put an arm around his shoulders. “Everything’s going to be okay. She’ll be at group tonight.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”
***
John B waited outside, like he always did. Even before the sun had set, the night was cold. He wore his red hoodie, hands shoved into the pockets. A few of the other members waved as they walked in, some even said hi. But Gwen’s car never pulled into the driveway.
He checked his watch every few seconds until the clock struck 8 o’clock.
His heart stopped in his chest. Gwen was never late. She was always pushing the clock, but she was never late. In all the weeks he had known her, she never pulled up later than 7:59. And Allison Preacher told John B that Gwen had never missed a meeting.
Something was definitely wrong.
Hands shaking, John B pulled out his phone. His first instinct was to call his dad. He froze for a second, his thumb hovering over his dad’s contact. Shaking his head back and forth, he found JJ’s number and called.
“Pick up, pick up, pick up,” he begged, his legs bouncing up and down. All he got was voicemail. “Shit!”
He tried to suck in a calming breath, but it wasn’t helping. Squeezing his eyes together, he told himself that she was just stuck in traffic. Right. Traffic...on the cut...at 8 o’clock at night.
There was some simple explanation as to why she wasn’t there, he just had to calm down. That’s what Kie would tell him to do.
That only last for a minute before John B pulled his phone out again to call Pope. He didn’t pick up either.
“Damn it!”
It was 8:05 when John B pushed himself away from the brick wall and started toward his car, a flurry of nervousness. His hands shook as he slid into the front seat.
He knew something was wrong and he still did nothing. If something had happened to Gwen, it was on him.
John B finally called Kie. Hers went straight to voicemail.
“Damn it!” John B slammed his fist against the wheel of his car. The horn blared for half a second before he pulled his hand away. Pressing the heels of his palms against his forehead, John B tried to suck in deep breaths. He would be no help to Gwen if he was panicking and disoriented.
Jamming his key into the ignition, John B tore out of the school parking lot, his hands still shaking. As he barreled down the road, he glanced at his phone, wondering to himself if he should risk calling her. He wasn’t entirely sure where he was driving to yet, but there was no way he was going to sit in group for two hours and listen to all those kids prattle on about how shitty their parents are.
Finally, John B couldn’t stand it anymore. He picked up his phone and found Gwen in his contacts. He listened to it ring. With every second she didn’t pick up, John B’s heart rate increased a hundred fold.
“Hi, this is Gwen. I’m sorry I can’t come to the phone-”
John B threw his phone against the passenger seat with a frustrated cry. He pounded a fist against his steering wheel once again. He could barely see the road through his bleary eyes, but he somehow managed to make it back to the Chateau. What he was going to do once there, he had no idea.
Storming out of his car, he made for the house.
“JB?”
John B froze where he was, turning toward the hammocks. All three of his friends were there, now sitting up or lifting their heads to look at him. Looking at them left a sour feeling in his stomach.
“I tried to call you,” he said, ashamed of the way his voice broke. Kie was out of her hammock almost instantly. JJ almost fell out as she climbed out.
“My phone’s dead,” she said as she got closer. “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you at group?”
John B’s chest heaved as he sucked in rapid breaths through his nose. He ran a hand through his hair, turning in a circle as if Gwen would just be there when he got back around.
“Gwen didn’t show,” he said, finally meeting Kie’s gaze again.
“Ah, shit,” JJ mumbled, kicking the tree he stood beside, hands shoved in his pockets.
“That doesn’t mean anything’s wrong,” Pope said as he took a step forward.
“She’s never missed group before,” John B told him, his smoldering gaze fixating on his friend. “Not once.”
“Hey.” Kie placed a hand on John B’s arm, bringing his attention back to her. “I’m sure she’s fine. Maybe she got sick.”
“She was fine last night.” John B couldn’t breathe. He felt hot, sweat beading on his forehead.
“Just sit down-”
“No!” John B took a step away from them. “No, I have to find her.”
With that, he turned and ran back toward his car.
“John B, wait!” Kie ran after him. Pope and JJ hung back. By the time Kie caught up with him, he was already in the front seat. “Let us come with you.”
“Us?” JJ asked. “This sounds like a him problem.”
“JJ-”
“No! I mean, he’s been spending all of his time recently with her, ditching us every chance he gets.” John B could see the anger in his friend’s eyes. He’d known JJ since they were like eight. They had their fair share of arguments.
“JJ, stop it!” Kie snapped before turning back to John B. “We’ll help you.”
Kie pulled the sliding door open and climbed inside. Neither Pope nor JJ moved.
“Well?” She gave her head a little shake, tightening her jaw. Pope eventually took a step toward the van and climbed in after Kie. JJ waited a little bit longer. He huffed and kicked a rock before clambering into the back with the others. Kie slid the door shut.
“Where are we going?” She asked John B, who tightened his hands around the wheel.
“I have one idea.”
***
John B pounded his fist against the wooden blue door. His heart tightened when he saw how much it gave way beneath the force of his hand. He shook away the nervousness and waited for a response. Kie stood right behind him, Pope and JJ standing at the bottom of the stairs.
The moon hung low in the sky. John B shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, bouncing up and down ever so slightly. Crickets chirped in a bush nearby. The breeze rustled a series of wind chimes almost like music to the owl’s song.
Then the door opened. An old, wrinkled woman stared up at John B, her eyes pinched together.
“Who are you?” She asked, her voice gravelly.
“Um, my name’s John,” he said, glancing over at Kie, who was trying to smile. “I was just looking for Gwen.”
“Gwen?” John B nodded his head a few times. The woman’s scowl deepened into a glare. “I don’t know a Gwen.”
John B was taken aback. His eyebrows furrowed together and he pulled his hands from his pockets. Looking over at the house number, he double checked to make sure that he had gotten the right house. There was no doubt about it. Every time he dropped her off, this was the house that Gwen would walk into.
“No,” John B said. “This is her house.”
“Young man, this is my house.” The old woman had a strength in her voice. “Now, get off my porch before I call the police.”
Without another word, she slammed the door shut on his face. John B’s lips parted.
“Are you sure you have the right house?”
“Yes, Kie, I’m sure.”
“What do we do now?” Pope asked. John B put his hands on his head, turning toward them. He shook his head slowly. He could talk to Allison, but she would still be in group for another hour and who knows if she would even tell him anything.
“Let’s go back to the Chateau,” Kie suggested when John B didn’t say anything. “Rest for the night and then regroup tomorrow.”
“What if she doesn’t have until tomorrow?” John B asked.
“What do you mean?” Pope put a hand on the wood railing.
“I mean, if she was kidnapped, they say the first 24 hours are the most critical,” John B said.
“We don’t know if she was kidnapped, John B,” Kie said, putting a hand gently on his arm. “You need to sleep. You can’t help her if you’re sleep deprived.”
John B let out a heavy sigh, but let Kie lead him down the stairs.
“I’ll drive home,” JJ said. John B barely heard him. He climbed into the back of the car, Kie sitting beside him.
“I shouldn’t have let her leave last night,” he said absentmindedly as he stared at his hands.
“From what you’ve told us about Gwen, I doubt you could have stopped her from leaving if she wanted to.”
John B put his head in his hands and let the silence drag on as JJ drove home.
***
Pope, Kie, and JJ all stayed the night. They fell asleep promptly, but John B couldn’t close his eyes. He knew that Gwen was out there, somewhere, he just didn’t know where and he wasn’t sure how he could get to her.
Eventually, he was tired of trying to pretend he was going to sleep. Sitting up and tiptoeing around his friends as they slept on the ground, John B headed out for the dock, grabbing a beer on his way out.
He sat there with his legs dangling just over the water, nursing on the beer bottle. He pulled out his phone, hoping to see that Gwen had called him back, that she could just smooth things over and confirm that everything was fine so the sick feeling in his gut could finally go away.
But he had no such luck. With a heavy sigh, John B opened his photo album. Pretty much every single picture from the last few weeks was of Gwen. John B flicked through them, remembering the night each on was taken. Her smile was so genuine, like she didn’t have a worry in the world. But then he got to the last picture, the one from last night. And his heart dropped.
He hadn’t seen it the first time he took the picture because he had been far too worried then, but he saw it now.
A tear rolled down her cheek. Just one. From the smile on her face, one might have thought that it was a tear of joy. But her smile went no farther than her lips. There was a haunted look in her eye, shimmering behind a layer of tears.
Whatever had happened to her, she knew it was coming. Could it be that she had just moved and refused to tell him? But that didn’t explain the house issue. No, it had to be something else.
John B went to his contacts and scrolled until he found her name. He hesitated calling her again, but part of him knew that she wasn’t going to pick up. He called her anyway.
The dock creaked underneath the weight of someone walking toward John B as the phone rang. With a heavy sigh, JJ lowered himself to the ground beside John B. He glanced at his friend, but said nothing.
“Hi, this is Gwen. I’m sorry I can’t come to the phone.” John B closed his eyes, listening to the sound of her voice. If he kept his eyes closed and pictured her in his head, he could almost fool himself into thinking she was here. “I’ll try to call you back as soon as I can. Thanks, bye!”
John B waited for the beep. He might even leave her a message, maybe. Having his life long best friend there beside him gave John B at least a little bit of strength.
He waited for the beep, but it never came. John B scowled, catching JJ’s attention.
“Booker?” John B’s eyes widened and he turned toward JJ, who scowled at him in response. John B took the phone from his ear and put it on speaker. “I recorded this just after I left your house for the last time.”
He listened to her laugh to try and cover the break in her voice. Realization dawned on JJ as he listened to the message.
“There are things about me you don’t know and I think it’s a good thing that I keep it that way. If you’re listening to this, I don’t know how much longer I have. People are after me, bad people. Please, if you’re listening to this, don’t call the police, don’t go to my house, don’t try and find me. Just...look at those pictures and remember me, okay? You’re one of the only people that will.” She paused. John B swallowed a lump in his throat. “I know I told you this already, but you gave me so much in these last few weeks than you could possibly imagine, so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
Another long silence followed. John B wondered if she was going to say anything else. But the line went suddenly dead.
John B stared at his phone as it ended, feeling like a thousand bricks were laid on his chest. He struggled to find a breath.
“It sounds like she’s in trouble for real,” JJ said, breaking the quiet that fell over them. “I’ll help you find her, man.”
John B nodded his head, letting out a single, shaking breath. He really couldn’t believe what he had just heard. He had been right about Gwen. She was in danger and maybe those people who were after her already had her.
“We need to wake Kie and Pope,” John B said, his mouth dry and the beer by his side forgotten completely. “They’ll want to hear it.”
“Yup.” JJ pushed himself to his feet before offering a hand to John B. He pulled his best friend up onto his feet and the two of them headed back to the Chateau.
***
“...from the bottom of my heart, thank you.”
Pope had his head in his hands and Kie was staring at John B’s phone. It was the third time.
“Play it again,” Kie said, eyes narrowed as she looked at the phone. JJ tapped the back of his head against the wall, his eyes shut. He was sick of hearing the same thing over and over again.
“You heard it,” John B said, voice tight. “She knew she was in trouble before she even came to my house. Someone was after her and now she’s gone!”
Kie screwed her mouth shut tight, pressing her lips together into a fine line.
“John B, you can’t ignore the part where she told you not to look for her,” Pope said, lifting his head.
“Yes, I can, actually.” John B leaned against the table, snatching up his phone. “She’s in danger and she needs our help.”
“John B....” Kie spoke slowly, as if preparing herself what it was she had to say. “There is a chance-”
“Don’t say it,” John B said, holding up his hand. The thought had already run through his own head a thousand times over. There was a chance that she was already dead. But he refused to believe it.
“Where do we start?” JJ asked. He didn’t care if Pope and Kie were in on it. John B needed his help and he wasn’t about to turn his best friend down.
“I think I have an idea.”
John B nodded his head. For the first time since last night, the unsettled feeling in his stomach was gone. The danger was far more real than it had been before, but at least he knew. Knowing the worst was better than not knowing at all.
Gwen had to be out there somewhere and wherever she was, she was probably terrified.
***
With a gasp, Gwen shot upward. The cold water ran down her back, soaking through all of her clothes. It chilled her to the bone almost instantly, the shivers sending painful tremors all throughout her body.
The cold made it hard to breathe. Like the ocean itself was pounding against her, her lungs screamed for air.
“Gwen, right?”
She jumped, her teeth chattering. There was a stinging pain on her left cheek, a dull ache in the back of her head. She could almost remember what happened that landed her where she was, but she could barely think back to a few seconds ago without a horrible migraine.
“That’s your name, right? Gwen?” The voice said again.
She tried to blink the blindness out of her eyes, but it wasn’t really working. She couldn’t place the voice, but she was worried that if whoever was talking to her asked again, she would be in for a world of hurt.
“Yeah,” she ground out through her teeth before smacking her lips. “I’m Gwen.”
“See, I find that hard to believe.” The voice was becoming clearer. It was a man, that much she could tell.
“Why’s that?” Gwen groaned. She went to lift her hand to rub the migraine out of her head, only to find that her wrists were bound, probably to the chair she was sitting in.
“Because I happen to know who you are.” Gwen’s stomach clenched. “And I happen to know your real name, Dawn.”
Gwen lifted her head, her vision finally coming to. Sitting in a chair in front of her was a young man, his hair plastered perfectly against his scalp. She didn’t recognize him, but if he knew her real name, that meant he knew exactly where she was coming from. And Gwen knew exactly what he wanted from her.
“Shit.”

What Once Was Mine College!AU
In which Y/N and Harry are old lovers who somehow find their way back to each other amidst this chaos.
If a pandemic cancels the remainder of your spring semester, and your recent ex decides to suspend the rules of your breakup in case “the apocalypse” keeps you apart forever, and you find yourself lying once again in his bed, your faces flushed, the afternoon humming by outside, take your time with leaving. The future will charge onward, but for now you can allow the memory of other lazy days you spent in this bed to envelop you entirely. You would like to believe this feeling transcends whatever comes next. For an hour or two, it does.
It had started with a fateful cough, class cancellations, and a choice to stay.
“Aren’t you gonna get up?” Katia, one of your roommates, questioned from the room outside of yours. She wasn’t bunking with you; the girl who had been, Elise, had mysteriously left about a week ago, when you’d woken up to find no trace of her usual throw pillows or belongings in the bed across from yours. “It’s the last day of classes, you know.”
You did know. You were all too aware of this fact, following the sudden declaration of a virus more minuscule than a grain of salt’s permeation of the world. The university had decided to close classes and encourage all students who were able to evacuate the surroundings as quickly as possible, heading home before the virus spread enough to veto travel entirely. Students took to this, although a bit anxious in regards to their tuition, refunds, and housing.
You had these concerns, as well. The virus didn’t seem real at first. You went through the stages of believing the media was exaggerating the virus, and then thinking that it wasn’t really a threat to youth, but that it was one’s civic duty to stay inside so those with weaker immune systems could thrive. What had concerned you most was tuition and housing. But, right now, you were all too aware of the empty space next to your bed. The fact that you’d stayed in your dormitory all of last and this week studying for assessments and exams, only to somehow end up with a heaviness in your head, a clammy, burning feel to your forehead.
You were sick with something. And it terrified you.
“I’m thinking of just getting a head start on packing,” you answer hesitantly, trying to string the words together as confidently as possible, all too aware of how your throat felt sore trying to accomplish this. “I don’t think there’ll be any actual classes, or not much of anything substantial, anyway.”
“Okay,” your roommate piped uncertainly. “Er, do you want me to help you when I come back?”
“No!” you cleared your throat, trying to mask the horror. “I mean... it’s fine, I just need to do this alone.”
“You’ve been locked in your room a while, sweetie,” Katia said kindly from outside of the door, and you felt your heart stop. “I know with all of the stuff with Harry, it’s only natural, but I’m here for you, ‘kay?”
“M’kay. Thanks, Kat.”
You heard the door click shut.
Harry.
Harry. Harry. Harry.
It had been so long since you’d seen him. Since the break-up. Not all of it was about pent-up emotions, though. There was also the whole “I think my roommate gave me coronavirus before she fled the residence” which kept you from wandering outside of your room. But you’d be lying if the way you’d broken up hadn’t served as a motivator to keep you cooped up in your dormitory, completely isolated.
Tears pricked your eyes as you remembered the fight. The one you’d instigated when he’d done absolutely wrong, when it was your insecurities that had presented themselves in the privileged setting, the flirtatious looks he was on the receiver end of. The feeling that he’d never truly be yours, and that he was never meant to be, in the first place.
“You always do this,” he’d growled, alcohol in his bloodstream, but the bitter truth on his lips. “This is what you do, isn’t it, sweetheart?” the words so harshly spoken, his fingers digging into your wrist, eyes intoxicated but clearer than you’d ever seen. “You fuckin’ run...they always run.”
“Harry, let me go,” you’d said quietly, looking down while you still felt the unbearable iciness of his stare.
“Let you go,” he had laughed bitterly, throwing back another swig of alcohol with his free hand. The one that wasn’t only tightening his grip on yours. “I’m the one...”
“Harry,” you’d whimpered, face crumpling. “Harry, you’re hurting me.”
You weren’t referring to the wrist.
He had paused. His darkened gaze trained on yours, lips parting with each heavy breath, eyes intensely searching your face for anything, everything you could give him. Then, they averted. Defeated. His grip loosened.
“This time,” his voice was thick with suppressed emotion, the same storminess in his eyes. “This time, if you run, don’t come back.”
Now, you were painfully aware of how alone you were. In a dormitory thinking you were infected with something too scary to try to comprehend. Unable to go outside, because you didn’t want this to affect anyone else, but also unable to get tested, because you weren’t yet a priority. You were surviving off of granola bars you’d picked up not long before this catastrophe began, along with a bunch of cold medicine and fluids. With no one to call. No home to return to, besides one filled with people who couldn’t give a rat’s ass about you.
“I’ve driven away the only person who cared,” your voice broke, as your stomach rumbles. You didn’t have the heart to grab another stale granola bar or saltine.
Harry’s worried, to say the least.
After that Friday night, nearly a week and a half ago, you’ve disappeared on him. At first, he was a shell of himself, showing up to classes, a hardened aspect to him. You’d really hurt him, and he felt he had the right to be upset.
But once the third day passed with no sight of you, he’d grown a bit curious. You weren’t one to miss classes: you’d once shown up hungover out of your mind, with a killer headache, but still willing to offer your analysis of Franny and Zooey, and why it was a love story before anything else.
Were you okay?
When this question had initially circulated through his mind the first couple of days, he’d merely scoff to himself. Why wouldn’t you be? You’d toyed with his emotions, unhinged all of his trust. He thought you got some sick satisfaction out of it. He wasn’t going to keep chasing you, forever.
After the first week, he began asking people. Just casually, to people who didn’t know you closely enough to tell you. He spoke to people you knew were apart of organizations you were passionate about and in. Nada. Zilch.
He’d resorted to asking Katia, seeing as your other roommate was gone, and she’d simply huff and leave.
Today was the last of day of classes, and, quite frankly, Harry realized as he watched the professor lecture on how classes would be commencing, he was angry. Furious.
“Of course,” he whispers darkly. “Of course, she gets to be locked up in the tower, feeling sorry for herself after she hurt me.”
“Er, what?” Niall rose a bit from his cat nap, eyes trained curiously on his fuming friend, who suddenly rose, fingers clenched to fists at his sides.
Harry left the lecture hall with a straight face, and walked a ways away before picking up his cellphone and finally dialling the number he’d religious avoided for days now.
“H-hello,” your voice came out incredibly soft through the receiver, and he hated that it made him want to kiss you everywhere.
“Where are you?”
His voice comes out harsh. Clipped.
“I’m in my dormitory,” you answer with confusion evident in your voice. “Why—”
He hangs up.
When you hear a loud rapping against your door, you regret giving him the key to your dormitory. All that separates you now is a bedroom door.
Fuck, you think, eyes wildly darting everywhere to plan an escape. You can’t risk letting him in here, either. This means you can’t jump out the window avoiding him.
“Y/N,” his voice is deep, loud, and however cold it is, you so desperately want to let him in. “Let me in.”
“N-no,” you wince at the way your voice trembles. “I can’t.”
“Cut the shit,” he snaps, and you flinch. “You don’t get to do this. You don’t get to pretend that you’re the one struggling, when you can’t even commit to me.”
You said nothing, tears welling in your eyes. Everything he had said was the truth.
“Stay out, Harry,” you keep your voice cool and even, this time. “Haven’t I made it clear that I don’t want you here?”
The other end of the door is silent, and your face falls. You lean back against the headboard of your bed, thinking he’s gone. He’s finally left, and you don’t like the feeling that wells in your chest in response to this fact.
Fate works in funny ways, sometimes.
You cough.
It’s a standard cough: reverberating through your chest, reacting to the phlegm congesting your oesophagus almost itchingly, and disrupting the natural rhythm of your breaths. It’s loud enough. Raspy.
You think you’re alone to do it, until a voice calls from the other end of the door; and it’s hoarse, tight.
“Y/N?”
“Er,” you pause uncertainly, wondering if it really would be that dangerous for you to jump ship out of the window and run. “Yes?”
“Was that,” his voice is low, hushed. “...Was that a cough?”
You could have laughed. Although the circumstances were admittedly dire, the mental image of Harry backing up and fleeing the scene like a headless chicken at the rasp of a cough conjures some amusement.
“That’s what they tell me,” you reply awkwardly. A girl can only take so much transparency.
“Do you have any other...” he trails off.
“Harry,” you dead-pan. “I’m fine. You can leave.”
Silence.
“No.”
“Harry—“
“Let me in, Y/N.”
“I can’t,” you stress, eyes widening in panic. “Just go..okay? It’s not what you think.”
“Why can’t you let me in, then?”
Relentless.
“Has it ever occurred to you that I just don’t want you to come inside?”
He scoffs. You hear the door knob being fiddled with and curse, as he promptly swings the door open after some hankering. You bury yourself under the covers. For all the money you were throwing at this institution, the least they could do was offer a decent lock system.
Harry takes in the disorganized dormitory; steps inside with no invitation. His eyes linger with interest at the Nature Valley granola bars located on Y/N’s dorm room floor. He steps over a few boxes, sits down at the corner of your bed with confident air.
“Stay away from me,” you groaned. He raised an eyebrow.
“Why, exactly, should I do that?”
“Because,” you pause, preparing yourself to tell the truth. Your eyes stare ahead at the inside of your blanket, burning. “I’ve been coughing, and my throat’s closing up.”
“And?”
“I think I have it,” you whisper, brokenly. Eyes welling with tears.
He promptly throws the blanket upwards, slides into the bed beside you. He grabs a Nature Valley bar on his way up. You gawk openly at him as his toes dance while his fingers tear at the plastic wrapper, bringing the bar to his mouth with great interest. He bites into it, and recoils a little.
“Not my flavour,” he comments, blithely. As if that’s any explanation.
“Are you stupid,” you stress, eyes wide as saucers. “I just told I think I have COVID-19, and you’re helping yourself to my rations?”
He snorts.
“Is this why you haven’t been coming to class?” Harry asks, forest green eyes twinkling slightly with a blend of amusement, but also awe, to your dismay. Your stubborn silence causes him to let out an uncharacteristic bark of laughter. You shoot him a dirty look.
“To think I thought it was because of something I’d said,” he marvels, with another bite and subsequent recoil to the snack bar. He shakes his head. “You, Y/L/N, have a way of messing with a bloke’s head.
“Forgive me,” you spit, “for fulfilling my civic duty of—“
“Civic duty?”
For some reason, this sends him into peals of laughter.
“Yes,” you smart, crossly. “My—“
“You,” he inches closer, and you move back cautiously, until you’re pressed up against the wall, and his chest is pressed to yours. You can feel his breath warmly fanning onto your flushed cheeks. “are not sick.”
“What in God’s name do you—“
He waved the half-eaten granola bar to your face, tellingly. Thumbed over the fine-print stating ‘peanuts included.’
You blanch. Blink.
“Oh.”
Allergies. Right-O.
“Yeah,” he chews slowly, moving back so his back is against the headboard, “Oh.”
You settled, after a quiet, but not uncomfortable pause.
“Since you’re here, I wanted to apolo—“
“Splendid day we’re having, isn’t it?” He turned to you. “Want to go on a walk and eat something besides that which you are direly allergic to?”
Or stay home. What, with an offer like that?
“Please.”
It’s an awful shame, you think as you both step past the stone statues and into the path led by aged, looming sycamores and dolorous baby blue jays, that this pandemic hit right as things were coming alive again.
“It’s strange, isn’t it?” you voice, as Harry stops by the tree under which you’d kissed for the first time, fingers tracing the rough patterns of the branches before you both came to rest with backs against the trunk. “Life for us seems to have stopped. We stay home. Don’t come back to college for God knows how long, but things are still happening. Life exists outside of the virus. Babies are still being born, tragedy still strikes. It feels wrong, but right at the same time.”
“A little early to be pensieve,” Harry notes, but you can tell by the glint in his eyes that he’s teasing. You know he knows what you mean. He always does. Used to.
“Days spent banished to a chamber with poisonous granola bars as the only ration will do that,” you counter, and he steps up, giving you a hand. You take it. Somewhere along the way, you let it go, and narrow your eyes at his blank look.
“Last one to your dorm is a rotten loser,” you exclaim, feet working quickly to get you up those stairwells, with him hot on your heels.
Ten minutes later, you’re both sprawled on his bed, the sun peeking through the curtains and miscellaneous snacks scattered about as you feast.
At some point, mid-chew with a Wagon Wheel stuffed in your mouth rather ravishingly, you find yourself glancing curiously at him.
“Why’re you doing this?”
It hadn’t exactly ended prettily. He shrugs.
“In case the apocalypse keeps us apart forever.”
And you stay.
Because, if a pandemic cancels the remainder of your spring semester, and your recent ex decides to suspend the rules of your breakup in case “the apocalypse” keeps you apart forever, and you find yourself lying once again in his bed, your faces flushed, the afternoon humming by outside, take your time with leaving. This wasn’t part of the plan, Chapter 17
Melody planned to work hard during the week, knowing she wouldn’t be able to do any work during the weekend, what with Tom whisking her away to Eastbourne for a few days.
But on Wednesday she didn’t have a great day. One of the other teachers she had seemed to be picking on her, it was Mr Paterson in gym class. It was mandatory at the college, they were trying to keep students active even if they didn’t want to study fitness.
She was supposed to have swimming on Wednesday, but she was just finishing her period so that wasn’t an option for her.
Even after telling Mr Paterson why she wasn’t going to be joining in, he was nasty towards her. Telling her she should just use a tampon and it didn’t matter whether she still wasn’t comfortable swimming that she should get on with it.
She felt so humiliated too because he had shouted at her on front of the rest of the class at the side of the pool. Making it clear that she was on her period and now everyone knew. Not that it was a taboo kind of thing, but it was still private and she felt that her privacy had been invaded. What he said was harsh too. And now she was getting detention for simply having her period.
She was pretty pissed off about it all.
Mr Paterson was known for being a nasty teacher, nasty for the sake of it. Tom was strict and could be harsh, but he was still fair at the end of the day.
When she got to detention it was Mrs Robertson who was keeping an eye on everyone. So Melody tried to just make the most of it and kept her head down to study. It was about twenty minutes in when she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She was careful and sneaky when taking it out, she saw she had a text from Tom.
Shit. She forgot she was supposed to be meeting him in his office after she had finished classes.
Where are you? Was all it said.
In detention. I’ll just see you tomorrow, or whatever. x She put back. Not wanting to go into detail.
Five minutes later, he popped his head in the door and frowned when he saw Melody was indeed there.
‘Sorry Mrs Robertson. Can I speak with Miss Brookes for a moment?’ He asked her sweetly.
‘Of course.’ She nodded and looked over at Melody.
Melody went outside the classroom and Tom waited until the door was shut.
‘What happened? What did you do?’ He asked as he folded his arms over his chest.
‘Why do you just assume it was me that did something?’ Melody snapped.
Tom narrowed his eyes at her. ‘Well, why are you in detention?’ He asked firmly.
‘It’s nothing.’ She grumbled and made a move to go back into the classroom, but Tom gently grabbed her arm to stop her.
‘Tell me, Melody.’ He growled at her.
Melody really wasn’t in the mood for this. She was already pissed off as it was. Between having her period and the asshole that was Mr Paterson.
‘Mr Paterson is what happened. I refused to do swimming because I’m on my period so he sent me here. Alright? Are you happy now?’ She snarled at him.
Tom’s face dropped. ‘What did he say, exactly?’
‘It doesn’t matter, Tom. Just let me go study.’ Melody sighed and ignored him as she went back into class.
Tom’s jaw clenched as he watched her disappear. But he wasn’t annoyed with her, he was annoyed with Mr Paterson. But he didn’t know what was said, exactly, so he couldn’t do anything yet.
On his way back to his office, he passed Rana who had been in the library.
‘Ah, Rana. Can I have a quick word?’ He motioned to his office.
‘Uh, sure.’ She nodded and followed him down the corridor and into his office.
‘What happened with Melody and Mr Paterson? I’ve just seen her in detention but she’s not telling me what happened.’ He asked and Rana could tell he was concerned.
‘Oh. Yeah. That wasn’t good. He totally embarrassed her on front of the class. She told me that she told him privately that she had her period so couldn’t swim. He told her to use a tampon, she said she wasn’t comfortable with that. Then he shouted loudly at her so everyone would hear that just because she had her period wasn’t an excuse to not do exercise and that she was just being lazy. Told her to go put a tampon in and get a t shirt from the office to swim in since she didn’t have her swimsuit, but she refused. So… yeah.’ Rana sighed.
Tom was furious, Rana could almost see the steam coming out of his ears.
-
Melody was almost finished with detention, there was about ten minutes left when the head came in and spoke quietly to Mrs Robertson. They both looked over at Melody, making her nervous.
‘Miss Brookes, please come with me.’ The head said.
Melody packed her things and followed her out to her office, wondering what the heck was going on. She wasn’t sure whether to feel scared or relaxed when she saw Tom there…
‘I believe there was an incident today. Mr Hiddleston has filled me in about what Mr Paterson said to you at swimming. Did he really send you to detention for refusing to swim because you’re on your period?’ The head asked softly.
‘Yeah… He did.’ Melody nodded at her.
She then asked Melody to tell her what happened, so she knew that Mr Hiddleston was telling the truth. Not that she doubted Mr Hiddleston anyway.
‘I can only apologise for Mr Paterson’s behaviour. He will be spoken to and dealt with, this is not acceptable. If anything like this is to happen again, please come to me.’ The head said to Melody before she left.
‘I will. Thank you.’ Melody nodded at her.
She wasn’t sure what to think when she left the office with Tom.
‘How did you know?’ She asked quietly.
‘Rana told me… Here, take these and wait for me in my car. It’s in the car park, I won’t be long.’ He handed her his keys.
She was only waiting ten minutes before he got to his car too, as soon as he got in, she broke down and started crying. So upset over what had happened.
‘Hey, hey, hey. Come here, love. It’s ok.’ Tom reached over and pulled her into a hug, as best he could anyway in the car.
‘Shhhh, shhh. It’s alright. He won’t go unpunished, I promise.’ He said softly as he stroked her hair. ‘He should never have said what he did to you, never mind embarrassing you like that on front of the class.’
Melody did feel a bit better now that it was being dealt with. She knew it wasn’t right, but she hadn’t planned to do anything about it really.
‘Why didn’t you come to me after it happened?’ Tom asked as he leaned back a little, wiping her tears away with his thumbs.
‘I… I don’t know.’ She shrugged.
‘Next time something like that happens, you can come to me, darling.’ He rubbed her back in circles until she was calmer.
‘I will.’ She nodded.
Tom smiled and pressed a kiss to her forehead. ‘Let’s get you home.’
When they got back to Melody’s, Tom cooked them both dinner while Melody changed into her pyjamas to get comfortable and texted Rana to thank her for telling Tom. She wished she had gone to him in the first place. But she had been so angry and upset, she just hadn’t thought at all.
Tom was still seething, he didn’t know how he was going to keep his cool when he saw Mr Paterson tomorrow. He was certainly going to give him a mouthful, that was for sure. But he was going to have to try and keep his rage against him under control, or it would be too obvious that Melody meant something more to him than just a student.
After eating, they watched a movie together while cuddling on the sofa. Melody was quite glad that he didn’t initiate any sex that night. Because she certainly wasn’t in the mood for it, and she wasn’t sure about period sex anyway.
So she was over the moon when Tom stayed and just held her when they went to bed. Lightly stroking her back until she fell asleep in his arms.
It was utter bliss.
-
The following day Melody had gym before English. She had been dreading it. But she noticed that Mr Paterson had a black eye that was a little swollen and he was acting very odd while he had the class do badminton. He didn’t even look in Melody’s direction, at all.
She felt sick, worried that Tom had punched him. So after she finished with badminton, she rushed straight to English and got there before any other students did.
‘What did you do?’ She asked Tom.
‘What do you mean?’ He frowned.
‘Mr Paterson has a black eye!’
Tom looked really sheepish and rubbed the back of his head.
‘What if he gets suspicious?’ Melody screeched in a panic.
‘Calm down, Melody. Yes, I punched him. No, he doesn’t suspect anything. I simply told him that I came across you upset in the library yesterday. That you opened up to me about what had happened. I will not stand for what he did, Melody. He bullied you. And that’s not on.’ Tom growled low.
Students started to pile into class, so Tom lowered his voice right down. ‘Believe me, he won’t be bullying any other students like that again.’
‘So much for keeping us separate from college.’ She hissed at him quietly before going to sit down.

Hi! Sorry I didn’t really a few days later this is my first time asking for a request I was getting nervous if the question would be cringy or sum. But how would the brucci gang react to their s/o having an addiction to spicy food (I have a obsession with hot fries >~<) and do they like spicy stuff?
My first request! Thank you so much, it's not cringe at all :)
GIORNO:
-Giorno isn't particularly fond of spicy food, he's got more of a sweet tooth to be honest. He doesn't dislike spicy stuff and will eat it with no problem if he has to, but he'd rather avoid it if possible.
-With that being said, he doesn't mind your 'obsession' for this kind of food and almost never complains about it.
-However, if he thinks you're eating too much of it, he'll tell you with no hesitation. He doesn't want his sweetheart to feel sick.
-He's honestly quite direct about it, he wants to make it clear to you that eating this kind of food all the time is extremely unhealthy.
-If it makes you happy, he'll try to eat it as well, just to see why you would like it so much.
-He'll look for high class restaurants in the city that serve spicy stuff, doesn't matter how expensive they may be!
Bucciarati:
-Just like Giorno, Bucciarati doesn't exactly like spicy food, he prefers more simple dishes.
-If you've had a bad day at school or work, or you're simply feeling down for no particular reason, you already know that Bucciarati is going to surprise you with some hot fries when you get back home.
-Needles to say, you immediately feel 10 times better after just smelling them, Bruno is the best cook out of the gang!
-At the same time, however, he's particularly worried that all that spicy stuff is going to be bad for you and your stomach. He'll try to tell you to tone it down a little, but in a less direct way compared to Giorno.
-In the most extreme cases, he may even hide your snacks so that you can't eat them! It annoys you a lot, but you know that he's just doing this because he's worried for you.
-"I'm sorry, Y/N, but it's for your own good. I promise I'll give your chips back in a couple of days"
MISTA:
-Oh man, Mista LOVES spicy food! Doesn't matter what kind of food it is, he'd eat his hat too if there was some hot sauce on it.
-What? Worrying about you eating too much of it? Nope, that doesn't exist with Mista.
-He'll always challenge you to see which one of you can eat more spicy stuff, but it ends up in a tie most of the time.
-When you manage to beat him though, you make sure to rub it in his face for at least three days.
-Sometimes your snacks randomly disappear, it doesn't take much for you to realize that it's the pistols' doing. Mista tries to control them, but they don't listen to him most of the time.
-If you're feeling good that day, you might actually give some of your food to them voluntarily, number five is the only one that thanks you for it.
-The rest of the gang is a bit concerned for you, but you don't care: that's just another thing in common!
NARANCIA:
-Sadly, it's stated in the manga that Narancia dislikes spicy food, that's a shame...
-Seeing how much you liked it, he forced himself to try some as well, but it didn't um...exactly turned out as you hoped. (He almost threw up that night, poor child.)
-He was kind of worried that you were going to dislike him because of it, he almost apologized to you for feeling bad!
-Obviously, you told him that it wasn't a problem for you, it's just food after all
-"I thought that if I ate it you would have liked me more...seems like my stomach just likes to make fun of me"
-He wouldn't dare to complain about how much you eat that stuff, he doesn't want you to think that he's "not supporting you"
-You two love eating chips together! He gets different flavored chips from your though.
FUGO:
-While you couldn't tell at first, Fugo really likes spicy food! He mostly just keeps this liking just to himself, for no particular reason whatsoever.
-You're the only one who knows about it, and you're so happy you two have something else in common! Fugo doesn't really understand why you're so excited about this, but if it makes you happy, it makes him happy
-Sometimes you lightly tease him about it, saying stuff like:"You're more of an hothead than this Chili Pepper". Fugo has gotten used to it by now.
-"Uh? Oh yeah...I guess spicy food is pretty good. What's the big deal about it?"
-You tried feeding his stand some chips once, they disappeared from your hand in less than a split second. You were low-key scared that he was going to eat your hand as well.
-Fugo is the one out of all the gang that worries about your eating habits the most, even when you're not actually eating too much of it, he may still tell you that you're exaggerating.
-However, he's also quite reluctant in telling you, he's scared you're going to be mad at him.
-"Um....Y/N, maybe you could...put those chips down? They're not very good for you, you know?"
ABBACCHIO:
-Abbacchio doesn't really like spicy food, he's probably the one of the gang that dislikes it the most after Narancia
-He simply doesn't get the appealing of "Making your tongue burn" and almost looked at Mista with a disgusted expression when he saw him eating it.
-Since his S/O likes it, however, he'll do more of an effort to like it as well. He may even order the same thing as you, after begging him for 3 times of course.
-"Fine, fine I'll eat it l, just stop saying 'please', you're going to give me an headache"
-Despite him making a scene out of something so little, you know he's just trying his best to show that he cares
-Just like Fugo, he gets veeery worried about your eating tendencies, but he's way more direct about it compared to the boy.
-"Seriously Y/N, you're eating too much, do you want to get food poisoning so bad?"
TRISH:
-Trish honestly hasn't any strong feelings when it comes to spicy stuff, similar to Bruno and Giorno.
-But if her sweetheart likes it so much, she'll be more than happy to eat it! She loves your satisfied expression after she's done eating everything in the plate.
-She isn't the biggest cook, but she'll still try to make you some homemade dishes and snacks, mostly just following recipes she found online, but still.
-Rather than being concerned about how much you eat spicy stuff, she's more worried about 'how' you eat it. Let's just say that...you're not exactly very well mannered when your favorite food is involved.
-She won't say anything about it though, the last thing she wants is to make you uncomfortable, but you should be able to tell from her facial expression while you devour 5 pringles in less than 2 seconds.
-With that being said, she still worries about you eating too much of it, and she will actively tell you about it.
-"Hey Y/N, how about you eat something else instead? Too much spicy stuff isn't very good for you"
I'M SO SORRY, I know this took longer than usual, but I've been Jojo-role-playing with my friend for a couple of days and I lost track of time eheh.
