[Vent] Comparative Analysis of My OC and Other OCs Observed in L/f!oc fics
*Excuse my English. This post has not been revised by AI for grammar and flow.*
Introduction
Why am I writing this instead of concentrating on my own fic? Answer to myself, it's because there were plenty of doubts while writing. The fear of writing her as not likable, not logical, not complex enough, not human enough, and not acting aligns with those who have trauma, and the last, the fear of accidentally writing her as Mary Sue. Several times I was reading someone else's fanfic and their OC were very popular? Likable? Interesting- in some sort of way, in a way that I find amusing, yet the characterization is never to become my own OC's personality. And with good reason. This post is for myself, to remind me why I write her as she is and why not she is the kind of OC that I imagine modern readers would like (I want to be welcomed by readers, too, yet sadly, I cannot make my OC more loving) Or to put it in another way, this post is me being very self-aware, or convincing myself that it's okay to write her like this. This is me analyzing my own OC.
Basic Description of My WIP F!oc
Nanami Miru (七海咲来) born in England, Japanese family. Abusive parents died in a fire, then entered Wammy's House, given alias "Meredith". Only close people would call her "Meri". Different alias were taken by her in various stages of life and situations, the most used would be Meredith/Saotome Rin (早乙女凜), Later taking the code name "M", carries out Watari's assignments. For more detail, please refer to Far Side of the Moon (AO3)
Varies kinds of OCs Observed in L/F!OC fics
It seemed that categorizing OCs into these kinds was not really fair for the fics I've read, but I won't list them out specifically, so I think sorting my own observations wouldn't hurt, I think. It is noted that these OC traits can appear combined.
Mommy OCs (sometimes this can be a tag) The girl that would take care of other children in Wammy's House if she were a Wammy child. If she is not a Wammy child, then it would be shown in later chapters that when she has contact with the Kira task force, she will take care of everyone and, of course, including L. Very good at taking care of others, physically and emotionally, a motherly like persona. She may also be a great assistant to Watari.
Sassy/wild/badass girl OCs (this is also a tag) The not-obedient girl that would argue and fight L. Maybe fight Watari. Maybe fight everyone. She would teach all of them a lesson, and let them know who's in charge of this story (?) Most of these OCs can be the tough kind, but it does not necessarily mean that she doesn't have her vulnerabilities. Giving enemies to lovers trope more, instead of friends to lovers, even if the fic stated that they are "friends" (or working partners)
Outgoing OC Had to write this separately from the previous category. Outgoing girl to contrast the gloomy vibe of L's. The contrast of their personality would give an interesting take on how they view things. Mostly this kind of outgoing girl is also loved by many others, and including L in most scenarios. Not necessarily sassy wild or not obedient. Frankly speaking, it would be more like this OC is an extrovert, in contrast to L's introversion.
Practical Realistic OCs (more cerebral) <-I'm currently aiming for this, more. I think most OCs I read do have this trait, but also combined with other mentioned traits. OC being intelligent and maybe participating in the Kira case, and giving out her advice to L and Watari, or maybe conducting some missions that Watari or L handed her.
Analysis: M and the OCs mentioned previously
As I do not consider myself to read enough L/OC fics, maybe just pause here on the categorization. Now, I would apply the above-mentioned OC types to my OC and see why she doesn't/does correspond to these popular traits.
Mommy OC I could see M sometimes being watchful to other children in Wammy's House, but rarely. It's more of an act of being nice to others, but nothing more. Without receiving much affection and love from her original family, it would be hard for her to know how to take care of others, especially those who didn't have much to do with her. (If you have not received love, then how do you give love to others) She kept herself quite distant from peers as well, and maybe the only person that she spent time with was Watari, the first person to give her kindness closer to a fatherly figure, and her first emotional dependence was mostly on Watari. Later, with L. But as L himself is also quite distant and isolates himself from others, it would be reasonable when M spends most of her time with L, and only L. It wasn't until after L left Wammy's House that she would have the chance to have contact with others more, and in my current WIP, with a boy named "Adam". What she did was not take care of Adam, but only have some contact and help him with some assignments of his current courses, as she is a few years older than Adam.
Since then, Adam would continue to learn some more music theory from Meredith, and sometimes would ask for her help on the assignments that the instructors assigned to him. It was then Meredith realized how difficult subjects Adam was learning, much more challenging than what she was learning when she was his age. What he was learning maybe two years ahead of his peers, she estimated.
If M had to take care of anyone, it would only be L and Watari. But I don't think that she needs to take care of L? Like, L has Watari beside him, so why need another being to take care of him if he already has a great butler who would even dress him on a daily basis (see, L: One Day) But I've always considered the concept of a "motherly" person has to start with some kind of love that she received before, maybe in her childhood. It was never the case for M. She may know how to serve, clean, and cook (but not baking, as she sucks at baking) from learning later in life, but it only means that she knows how and not necessarily giving the motherly feeling. I've always wanted to write a story that conveyed that being a mother and knowing how to be a mother is definitely acquired and not born with it. Yes, of course, some have an instant love for their child or young children, and maternal love is in the blood, but not all women apply to this. When accepted maternal love is acquired and needed to be learned instead of born with it, I suppose many woman could be relieved from the society's emotional blackmails of "you are the mother and you should do xxx for your child".
Sassy/wild/badass girl OCs This is more like a choice, choosing what kind of personality that one's OC would have. And I did not choose this kind. If I have to give a reason, then it would also stem from the original family that M had. Suppressed feelings and hiding your thoughts from others was what she was educated on, and with the trauma that she experienced, one of the reactions I really wanted to write about was fawning. She is desperate to cling to someone who could provide her love. Therefore, she would not have the personality to be a badass girl, I suppose. She is too afraid to be unseen, to be ignored by those whom she cares about the most, to be rejected, and therefore, she doesn't really have the courage to be disobedient. To my own interpretation of this OC, it would be harder for her to stand up to Watari than fight L, as to her she may have a more horizontal relationship with L, but never with Watari. It would definitely be vertical. M struggled for praise when she was younger and even after entering Wammy's House. Watari needed patience to make her more open, and that's why the little girl likes the inventor and sees him as the fatherly figure that she did not have in her childhood. Watari was more like a father when he was around M than L. Out of my own agenda, I wanted M to be the soft spot of Watari, but it does not mean that Watari would prioritize M more than L. Watari wanted to change the world. And L was his hope to accomplish that. It was also my attempt to subtly show Watari's obsession with L's success and later to pursuit the goal of world peace, the reason for the successor's program. I know that in Another Note (AN) Watari was portrayed like the mad scientist that wanted to copy L's success, and disregard the well-being of Wammy children, but this is really different from the relationship that Watari shared with M. In later chapters, I did have an attempt to explain and adjust the reasons provided by AN, and I do hope the narrative is logical and in an ingenious way that does not go too far from canon but still maintains the warmth Watari expressed to M, and to other children of Wammy's House. I think I'm carrying away too much in this passage.
Outgoing OC This is also by choice more than reason. Couples in my own experiences mostly share similar personalities than those who had totally different personalities. L and M both are quiet introverts that only open up more when they are around people they are familiar with- well, maybe we can't really see that in L in canon, but he definitely is not an outgoing guy. There was a scene in anime when L knew that it would be his death day, and he went to Watari, with Watari asking him "What's wrong" but he remained silence. I think it was the few moments that we could see L seeking for some kind of emotional comfort from Watari, or maybe wanting to take one last look at the man that raised him, but didn't know what to say or express. L felt strange to tell Watari that he hear the bells. It was not him. It was not logical. And even he did tell Watari, Watari may not understand what he meant (It's really metaphysics, to say.) But judging from this scene, I do think that L would open up, very slightly, to those who he trusts the most. But never to others, colleagues (task force), or mere friends, let alone potential rivals (Yagami) Where am I? Ah yes, outgoing OCs. So it's only really my own preference to write a love interest of L's sharing similar personalities like him. Communication and opening up would be easier for this kind of couple, in my experience. And with M also not the outgoing girl, I could maintain that very nuanced emotional flow between the two of them. Everything is very subtle and indirect. And that is the kind of story I wanted to tell.
Practical Realistic OCs (more cerebral) So, this part, the thing I wanted to point out is that I do want my OC to be practical and realistic. The part that I am not going to write is OC engaging in L's investigations or career. I know that to showcase an OC's intelligence and make L approve of her is to make her work with him in some cases, or even the Kira case, but it just boggled me that if L really cherished another person, then would he let her engage in what he is doing? First, he knew that his career was never the kind that was considered safe. Especially Kira case is the most dangerous and difficult case for him; in my own understanding of L, he would be well aware of the danger and would not want his love interest to risk her life in such matters. Second, L has some sort of pride. Ego. this is his domain. Solving cases, whether it was a game for him or fighting for justice, gave him a sense of accomplishment and relieved the boredom he experienced as the top. Handling the case on his own would suit him more like L; he would again prove to others that he is the top and greatest of all. Even if L didn't have this thought, L is a man who has boundaries and needs ultimate freedom when he works. He would need assistance from the task force and Watari, but he dislikes to be distracted, as evident from canon.
I can't stand it when people's cellphones are ringing while I'm trying to talk. Let me start by saying nobody takes notes on anything that's said in these meetings. That means when we leave headquarters, any information we need is committed to memory. Please, make yourselves comfortable. (L, Death Note-Unraveling)
So how to show OC's intelligence and respect for L's boundaries? My answer in my story is, she has her own career, her own assignments given by Watari. L would only seek for her advice if he really needed it. But both of them would not trespass into each other's domain. By doing so it could maintain the boundaries of L's, giving him maximum freedom in investigation without having to worry about his love interest risking.
"I have confirmed that Kira is a student." L paused, bringing his thumb to his lips before continuing, "I'm just trying to gather more clues." M peered at the screens and flashed a smile. "Looks like the schedule of a third-year high school student." L inquired, "How so?" "If it were a first or second-year student, they would have club activities after school," M gestured towards the time on the screen, "but third-year students are busy preparing for university entrance exams and are not required to participate in clubs. Unless Kira didn't participate in any clubs, which is uncommon for Japanese students, it must be a senior student." (Far Side of the Moon, Chapter 2)
So here, what M only did was give a comment on L's current case but never participate in the investigations. I want to show that L respects her career, and she, too, respects his boundaries, even if she wants to help. Of course, if she ever did, I imagine with both of their intelligence, the Kira case would be solved maybe much faster (hehe), and maybe we would have an alive L. But no, for my story. I want to aim for the story that was not presented in canon. The scenes of L's private life that did not show in canon but happened simultaneously. Not really canon compliant, but aim to.
Conclusion: Write what you want to write.
Yeah. As I mentioned before, this post is a reminder for myself. Believe in yourself. Trust the plot. Trust the story. Trust how much you invested yourself in this story, and readers could feel that you put a lot of effort into the story and did your homework. There's a lot more I wanted to explore in my current WIP, other than DNverse. Feminism, society issues in Japan, mental health issues, trauma experiences, longing, relationships...etc. Trying to combine them all. And hope for the best.

how did you learn japanese so fast? i saw you posting about it one day and the next day it seemed like u were in japan! so cool
I actually learned it on the plane ride over! I'd learned Chinese and Korean before but never had interest in Japanese (except for when I was 10 and liked anime ya dig) but I hate not knowing the languages of wherever I am so I just like. Learned some basic stuff I suppose? There's 3 "alphabets" so I didn't learn all the letters but I learned most of hiragana and got okay with katakana, and I know a lot of Chinese characters so I can understand a very very basic amount of writing. It was actually pretty easy but most of the daily stuff I use is in speaking, super basic phrases (can I have this, and this, how much does this cost, what is this, can we have the check please, together please, separate please, this is tasty, thank you, excuse me, etc)
I really love it though and wanna keep learning some! I'm already hoping to come back again maybe by myself or one or two friends. Who knows tho! I have been super bad about making myself practice my languages recently 😓
Thank you for asking!!!

Depths*The Beast Laying Hidden Beneath
Bloodthirsty Beast Chapter 5
Tumblr media
《A few days after the start of filming》
Tumblr media
Rei: "The third victim...!? Once again, is it the work of the 'Beast'? They're getting in the way of our work..."
Adonis: "I see. So the victim was once again someone we know. It seems that the 'Beast' is indeed targeting people related to the Sakurayama¹ Social Club. And persistently at that... Perhaps they have already infiltrated this group."
Koga: "For now, I have an alibi for the first incident. That means I can be ruled out as a suspect, right?"
Rei: "I was on duty that day too. My colleagues should be able to vouch for my alibi."
Adonis: "Sagurayama-san and Ohata-kun had alibis. That means, for now, it's only the two of us without alibis."
Rei: "What about you, Hatori-san?"
Kaoru: "Huh? Are you suspecting me? Just because I took the day off alone doesn't mean I would commit a crime. Isn't that host discrimination? Besides, I use a stage name for business, so please don't call me by my real name too often, okay?"
Koga: (...Adonis is still suspicious. His acting is still a bit awkward. From what I see, it seems he's still uncertain. He's a bit more restless compared to the three of us.)
Tumblr media
Adonis: Excuse me, Director. It seems I still haven't fully grasped this role. Because of that, I've caused trouble for everyone. Am I the only one staying behind for the practice? Just me and the director? Understood. Thank you very much.
Koga: Oi, oi, is he okay? He finally got called in by the director.
Kaoru: More than......just a little, I'm quite worried about it.
Rei: Since it's Adonis-kun we're talking about, I believe he'll eventually make a course correction.
Koga: Yeah, that's right. I hope he can find some tips... Look at this. Adonis, that jerk, has written so much in the script. Even though he's not that good at writing Japanese. It's cruel if he doesn't see any results after this. Huh? This script has a page after the crumpled one that has been fixed. What is this...!?
Kaoru: Is this...!?
Rei: It says, "Please help me"... Should I call it a cry from Adonis-kun's heart? So that's why the script was unnaturally crumpled. It's more serious than I thought. He might be carrying a lot of stress due to his own immature acting skills.
Koga: I can't believe Adonis was feeling so cornered... Let's go ask him right away. Why was he carrying such a burden until it got to this point?
Kaoru: Yeah, I'd love to do that, but... considering Adonis-kun, maybe it's not a good idea to go and ask him right now.
Koga: Huh?
Kaoru: You see, Adonis-kun has been asking for our advice all along, right? But I feel like he's struggling with the fact that his acting hasn't improved. If we ask him right now, it might make things even more difficult for him... That's what I think. I agree. It's hard to imagine Adonis-kun treating his tools of the trade so carelessly.
Rei: Adonis-kun is doing his best. By misleading him with our advice, we might further corner him.
Tumblr media
Koga: Hmph. You're just spouting pretty words. I get it. If Adonis is burdened with a problem he can't share with anyone, it's only natural for us, his comrades, to listen and help him figure it out. I'll accompany him during his extra practice. Adonis will appreciate not being alone with just the director, right?
Kaoru: You're full of youth, Koga-kun...
Rei: Indeed. When I see Adonis-kun and Koga like this, it makes me feel rejuvenated as well. However, I can't say for sure if it was a good decision to let Kouga go. There's also the possibility that Adonis-kun's extra practice serves as an excuse for filming the 'Beast' scenes. It's certainly a difficult situation to navigate. We must be careful not to inadvertently step on a tiger's tail.
Kouga: (Tch, causing me to worry...)
(But man, he's really unlucky. I never thought he would end up practicing one-on-one with the director. Their directorial plan must have clashed severely.)
(Though his acting is awkward, it's not so terrible that it had to come to this.)
Adonis: ........!
Koga: (Haha, he's putting all his passion into his acting. It looks like he's truly focused. Wasn't this my cue to enter?)
Adonis: please stop. Director you are going too far...
Koga: (Oh...? Why is the director bowing? And on top of that, Adonis is desperately trying to calm them down. What's going on...!)
(Damn it, I don't understand! Maybe because the director's voice is too soft, I can't hear from here!)
(No choice, I'll get a bit closer—)
Tumblr media
Adonis: Director... I'm sorry, but if that's the case, I'd like to quit.
Koga: (...!?)
(Quit? Does that mean... Is he really going to abandon the job? Quitting, is that what he means?)
Hey, Adonis! What were you talking about with the director just now?
Adonis: Oh, Ogami... You were there.
Koga: What was that exchange about!? The director was bowing their head, and you said you want to quit—don't tell me you're quitting this drama?
Adonis: I'm sorry, but I can't say. The only thing I can tell you is that I made a rational decision. I don't want to trouble the rest of 'UNDEAD'... Please believe me.
Koga: tch....!

The theme of the year is "Restoration"
I had trouble sleeping last night. My brain was buzzing even well past midnight. Recently, I noticed that I get sleepy earlier in the evening. It didn't happen last night. I have no idea why it happened, but it was probably because of the things that were churning in my head.
Or just the energy drink I had to stay awake for New Year's!
I know it's been a few days, but still...
Well, whatever it was, I did eventually just fall asleep. I don't know what time it was, but it was probably from sheer exhaustion.
All that said, I really just wanted to get started on writing again...
So, here we are.
It's 2023!
Welcome to another start in my periodic quest to write every day!
Like I said in the title, the theme of the year is restoration.
The pandemic did all sorts of different things for all sorts of different people.
Taylor Swift was really productive and produced two albums in one year during this time. Made all of us look plenty lazy. Me, included.
Instead of being more productive, I got less productive. The pandemic restricted a lot of activity, most of them things that we took for granted and expected to simply be able to do every day without question or thought.
Now that I think about it, I couldn't adjust very well. It didn't help that I started a new job in 2021: a part-time instructor at a local uni.
That was when I got way less productive.
Well, technically, I was productive in the area of being an instructor, but not in the things I usually do.
Last year, 2022, the pandemic started waning for real. There's still cases today, of course, but it's not something we are not too alarmed about anymore. It's probably gonna stick with us forever now. Like regular coughs and colds. It's now another one of those diseases that we could possibly get just anytime.
So, hopefully, 2023 will be a good year for me to start try and get back to those old things.
This is where the restoration part comes in.
The first step was to find and use a tracking app. I found a habit tracker called Timecap. Seems decent, so I'm using that.
Here are a couple of things I am simply tracking:
Play I'm tracking this because, even without the recaps from my various apps and platforms, I know I played way less than I used to. Probably comes with the territory of having more work, but I want to change that.
Read Unfortunately, I also read way less last year. Goodreads says I only read 12 books last year. That's barely an average of one book a month. Definitely not a good look, especially with a record of 26 in 2021 and 43 in 2020. Yes, it's been a downhill ride. I hope to change that this year and finish well over 12 this time.
I'm tracking them so I can see how much time I'm spending on them. Or, how little.
A couple of things I am building:
Exercise Before the pandemic, I was cycling practically every day. The lockdowns and the quarantines did not do me a favor when it came to exercise. I ended up doing this way less until I couldn't anymore. I did have a period with the boxing app on my Switch, but I couldn't stick with it either. I want to try again. Although... I did not have a good start with this one today. I woke up to something terrible, so I couldn't get started. Probably just an excuse, but we'll see.
Learn Japanese Another one of those things that got disrupted. I had a really nice streak and it was going so well, until a period of disruption upset my progress. I've had to reset maybe twice now. I'm wondering now whether I should reset again, but that's another thing we'll see.
Write This one I seem to be having a good start on. I don't know how long it will last this time, but I hope longer. There's a routine change coming at the start of next week, though, so that's something that does not bode well for this. Still, gotta start somehow, right?
An aside... Like I always do when I want to start writing again, I got hung up for a good time on where to write. It's a good thing I already had something in mind: since we're talking about restoration I thought to use one of my old blogs. I had something in mind, but I was misremembering it. It didn't look like I thought it did. So, I spent some time looking at these old spaces. This old Tumblr blog is it this time. The last post is actually from January 2nd, 2022. It's not even an actual post, just a share from Instagram. The last real post is from August 23rd, 2019 - one of my sort of rants about Descendants 3. So, it's been over three years...
In another note, I also wanted to change the theme. I almost got stuck on that again, but I realized what I was doing, so I got to stop myself and just picked the top result: Tumblr Official.
No qualms, no thinking too hard. Any space will do, so just get on with it!
Now, I don't have a good record with these habit tracking things. I get tired of them after a while. The longest I've gone is probably just a couple of weeks. Hope it will be different this time.
Here's to 2023 🎉

Misc. doodles from the past few months!
...I honestly didn’t realize Labrys was making similar expressions until I just put them together in this post. I drew those like 2 months apart. >_>;
‘Fantasy cat-hybrid’ Sho is about as random (and as fluffy) as he looks, haha. I’m also torn between him painting the X on his face to look cooler and it being a consequence of whatever resulted in his third eye (and, presumably, subsequently Minazuki), which would probably be something magic-related given its odd coloration.
Also yes, his shirt is half off in the lineart one. It’s actually just because I needed more skin and shadows to test out colors in the new medium I was trying. xD (Which isn’t pictured here because it came out.. kind of a mess. qvq; )

"i'm so sorry!" you yelled as you entered the gym with things carried in your hands.
you were greeted with the stern looks from the boys who were stretching on the ground.
surely you hadn't been that late, they were still stretching. you tried to excuse yourself with a guilty smile as you caught suna rolling his eyes at you.
"y/n, oh, y/n." coach kurosu sung as you arranged your things on the stage of the gym.
noting the coach's tone of voice, you knew he wasn't mad at you.
"sometimes i still wonder why we picked y/n to be our manager." suna said to ojiro who simply grinned at the playful remark.
"yeah, atsumu. you could've picked one of your dear fangirls again. they would've done a better job." kita stated, finger on his chin.
"maybe we should just kick y/n out." osamu suggested, causing you to pause of arranging your things and facing them.
"no, no, no. please don't! i'll do better, i promise." you yelled, waving your hands around.
they exchanged looks of accomplishments and smiles and you realised you fell right into their traps.
yet again.
they were normally so playful around you.
"you guys are so mean. i should've just stayed with my grandma back at [home country] when i had a chance." you stated, folding your arms.
you transferred from [home country] due to winning a state high school science competition. the winning prize was to join inarizaki high and since you were half-japanese already it was easier to settle in here.
you did struggle a tad with japanese but since your mother forced you to learn about both her side and your dad's side, you were all set. in fact, you do great in japanese class due to your father being a writer and teaching you a lot of tips when writing in japanese.
your mother was lucky for not struggling in japanese as she studied in japan during high school herself, meeting your dad. high school sweethearts.
"puh-lease." atsumu sighed. "i only chose her because she wasn't crazy like them. like they can't even keep quiet when i serve at games, how do you expect them to be quiet when they watch us practice?"
it was true.
atsumu and you were paired for a science project and you spent a lot of time with him due to it. then knowing his twin, and then knowing the whole volleyball group as you had to go to his practices to do the science project.
after that, they asked for you to be the manager as you were the only girl they knew that wasn't crazed with them.
even though you got a lot of hate for it, they boys protected you nonetheless. they never acted it but you knew from their small, kind gestures that they appreciated you a lot for learning a whole new sport for them and giving them advice about things outside of volleyball.
although you just moved to japan three months ago, it felt like they've already accepted you fully.
"sad that she's worse than your fangirls." suna pouted at you.
you scrunched your nose at the middle blocker as you grabbed your clipboard.
"am not."
"are too."
"am not."
"are too."
"am not—"
"just stop it there." kita warned, as you and suna immediately died down. let's just say you and suna often bickered due to his repetitive comments and put-downs. not that you minded, it was a small thing between the both of you.
"hold on. you said you texted y/n on the group chat. how come there's no notification?"
"we have another group chat together." osamu said.
"oh." ojiro nodded.
"the one where y/n talks in the middle of the night about the strangest shit." suna said, unsparing you a glare.
"hey! you can't blame me! that thing we discussed last night was seriously important shit, not strangest." you reasoned, as you sat against a wall, ready to take notes.
"you legit said: every day, someone has taken the biggest shit that day and they had no idea."
akagi's mouth shaped into an 'o' in realisation.
"it's something to think about, isn't it?" akagi said, sending you a nod in agreement.
"yeah, but the conversation kind of got carried away." you guiltily stated, looking down to your lap.
"i thought we agreed not to speak about it." atsumu huffed.
"what? you mean speak about the fact that you admitted to watching porn and were really mad because of the group chat notifications that came in while you were wat—"
"okay! let's get to practice." kita called, causing everyone to laugh quietly despite the captain's haunting glare.

hello, kay! i hope you've been taking care of yourself well and that life has been kind to you for the most part. i want to ask, how do you feel about kita shinsuke? your akaashi is exquisite and incredibly characterized that i always find myself coming back to your stories should i need my keiji fics, and i realized that it would probably be really interesting (and beautiful) to meet kita through your words. no pressure, tho! as always, i am grateful for whatever you write. ♡ all the love x
you’re an absolute sweetie -- i hope you’ve been well too! i’m honestly at my wit’s end but we’ll survive somehow, right? ahahaha // i’m still incredibly flustered whenever someone mentions how much they like my keiji characterization -- he’s one of the ultimate comfort characters for sure! so thank you for giving my keiji fics that honor <3
i’ve definitely developed some love for kita over time! i love anyone who’s incredibly dependable -- my love language (that i’ve recently re-discovered) is acts of service and i can see him embodying that!
i got carried away: here’s ~1.7k of some hazy kita appreciation, or some strangers-to-lovers ideas sprinkled together. my brain has died from finals, but i hope you like this anon!
-
the first time that kita shinsuke even crosses your mind, you mistakenly think, “he’s certainly a bit dull.”
it’s not that you forgot he existed by any means -- the boy certainly carries a presence and emanates it in a calm, quiet manner. you just can’t remember him saying anything that wasn’t related to speaking out loud in class or social pleasantries. he’s certainly not much more than a blank canvas to you, and the only splotch of color thrown on is that he’s a member of your nationally recognized volleyball team. other than that, you know nothing else.
it all changes when you two are paired for classroom cleaning duties your third year.
when your homeroom teacher announces your name after his, you glance away from the window to the boy sitting diagonally in front of you to your right. his back sits upright, elbows bent to indicate he’s probably sitting with his hands linked on top of his desk, legs still and placed together underneath the wood. besides the two-toned grey and black hair, you would think he’d be the perfect poster child for japanese education.
the first morning of cleaning duties, you’re sprinting through the halls in your slippers, hoping that the student council president isn’t anywhere near your classroom. the subway was absolutely packed and nobody seemed to be in the usual pace of the morning rush, which caused some delays and for you to cut it very close. you slide open the class door with all the force you can muster, panting and out of breath with apologies falling off your tongue. unbeknownst to you, your brain had been expecting kita to give you a small smile and ensure that it was okay for your two minute tardiness -- instead, you were at the receiving end of a blank yet heavy stare, and seemingly scathing words of, “don’t be late next time.”
your second thought of kita is that he’s too rigid and austere for a seventeen year old. bitterness festers in your chest as you practically stomp towards your desk, setting your stuff down before you head to the erasers in front of the chalkboard. even though there isn’t much dust left on them, you’re searching for excuses to calm down and be a little more level-headed.
you’re so caught up in your thoughts and staring out into the open sky that you don’t register kita’s presence looming near. but it’s his timbre voice that startles you out of your stupor, though they’re nothing more special than, “you can sweep the other half of the classroom. i’m getting started on the desks,” and he walks away.
in gliding the bristles over the wooden floor, you take another peek at your partner for the time being. it’s hard to miss the way he methodically cleans each wooden surface, leaving no corner unwiped, no speck of dust lingering. something about it is somewhat endearing to you, a rather drastic juxtaposition to how you were feeling not too long ago. maybe you were wrong about him -- kita shinsuke might still be a little boring to you, but he’s just...diligent.
in home ec, you’re partnered up with ojiro aran (which proves to be in the best of your luck). but he’s good with small talk, and it’s not like you two have never spoken before. so three weeks later over the folding of meringue into the other batter, you decide to pop the question of, “what’s kita-san like as captain?”
aran can’t contain his muted surprise at your inquiry, seeing as you two rarely ever get into the details of his volleyball playing, much less so about his team. but it doesn’t stop him from giving a truthful answer, “he’s no nonsense, keeps everyone in line. we have some rowdy underclassmen and no one scares them more than shinsuke.”
“a hardass?”
“when he needs to be,” aran chuckles. “but he’s very thoughtful and goes out of his way to care for everyone. the guy lives and breathes by routine.”
there’s something that stirs within you, a small flame being lit, one that flares the next morning when kita walks by your desk and greets you, “good morning, l/n-san.” seeing as he usually never does, you stumble over your reply and shock, all the while berating your heart for beating as fast as it is. kita’s just being polite and using social pleasantries, nothing more.
but he does it the next morning, and then the next, and even incorporates, “how are you?” into his line of words on days you two clean. little by little, you get to know more about him -- not a lot, but enough to correct yourself for ever thinking that he’s a dull, austere, mean human being. you tell yourself it’s nothing more, especially when you start looking forward to their games and join the student cheering squad. it’s nothing when you eagerly await for the moments that kita gets subbed in; absolutely nothing when he looks away from the court and into the crowd, catching your eyes and allowing his lips to slip into a demure smile before turning back around. the pounding of your heart and sweating of your hands aren’t related at all, just physiological effects of the game.
and before you know it, graduation comes around and you think you’ll never see him again after this. you’re laughing and taking pictures with your classmates, later spotting aran over the crowd of families. he catches your waving arm and bounding figure, bright grin on his face as he congratulates you. “i’ll miss you all,” you confess and aran affectionately pats your head. “same here. have you seen shinsuke?”
your brows furrow. “no, why? is he looking for me?”
“you sound confused by that. weren’t you two friends?”
“i wouldn’t overassume that...but i doubt i’m on his mind right now.”
aran only nods and adopts a pensive look, taking a moment to think before confessing, “you meant something to him. after all, he greeted you every morning, right?”
you nod. “but what does that have to do with anything?”
aran’s parents interrupt and attempt to drag him away before he can answer, but he beckons for them to give him another minute. quickly, he pulls you into a one-arm hug, telling you over the bustling crowd, “you were part of his routine.”
you’re stunned, frozen in your tracks as aran and his family walk away. their departure creates some space between everyone, and you find yourself looking straight into the golden eyes of the man that had been plaguing your thoughts for months now. he doesn’t back down, not out of defiance though -- rather, he seems to be trying to convey that he sees you, acknowledges your existence and long wedged a placeholder for you in his life.
but the spell is broken when one of your relatives tugs on your arm for you to leave and go home for a big lunch celebration, and that’s the last you see of him.
at least for the next two years. you have a part-time job at osamu’s onigiri shop, having met the man in some cooking classes over the years. while you’re up front most of the time, you occasionally help out in the kitchen during rush hours. evidently, you missed any of the information on the exact source of the rice, remembering nothing more than the fact it was special and held a certain place in osamu’s heart -- because when kita shinsuke walks in to make a special, personal visit, your brain splutters and ceases all deep cognitive functioning.
he looks well, happy, strong, more than he did back in high school. the same air of confidence still surrounds him and encases the entirety of the shop, and instincts nearly have you dropping to your knees so you can hide behind the counter and catch your breath.
“oh shinsuke, you’re here!” osamu calls out from behind you, popping out of the kitchen to help with the rice bags. the most you can muster is a gentle bow before messing with the cash register, pretending to be busy organizing receipts and bills. you tune out most of the conversation cleaning counters, checking customers out, wiping down tables, and anything else that’ll take your mind off the guy your heart could never seem to forget.
but osamu bidding goodbye to kita snaps you out of your reverie. and instead of walking towards the door, kita’s figure approaches you until there’s nothing but 5 feet of wood between the two of you. “it’s good to see you,” he greets softly, a gentle expression casting onto his face and tone.
“i-it’s good to see you too, kita-san,” you barely reply in time, doing everything you can to fight the blood rushing into your face.
“i’d like to take you out for coffee when your shift is over, if that’s okay.”
oh.
“oh, well, yes, but um, my shift doesn’t end for another hour and--”
“oh, you’re good to go for the rest of the day,” osamu calls out with his head popped out the kitchen door, sending a knowing look towards his former captain. in fact, you remember that the owner had been somewhat insistent that you come work today of all days and you never knew why...until now.
that fucker.
shinsuke’s eyes glimmer as the realization hits you, the same demure smile as the one he sent you all those years ago during a volleyball game sitting on his lips. excitement bubbles within you, and you attempt to tease, “only if you can untie my apron for me?”
there’s no hesitation in his demeanor as he walks around the counter and plants himself right in front of you, mere centimeters between the tips of your shoes and his. you can’t bear to look away as an arm reaches around easily undo the bow at your lower back. neither do you miss the ghosting of his fingertips at your waist that burn through the cotton of your t-shirt, and you’re just thankful that no customers are around to witness this heated, intimate moment.
“lead the way, captain,” you can’t help but say. something dark and dangerous crosses his eyes, sending a thrilling shiver down your spine. and you think that yes, yes indeed, you’d like to see those eyes more often if you can.

Reaction – You distract them from work/study
a/n: thanks for another lovely request @tabsteen ❤️❤️❤️
Seokjin
From the bed, all you could see were Seokjin’s broad shoulders moving powerfully as he practiced the piano. His hair was messy and his body was slouchy, so you could tell he was tired. You had already asked him to stop and come to bed, but he was stuck on a part and wouldn’t give up. Even placing kisses under his ear wasn’t enough to convince him, so you knew you had to resort to stronger measures. He didn’t even notice when you left the room, coming back with a bowl in your hands, only turning around when he heard the sound of you slurping noodles. “What are you eating?” He finally asked. “Just some leftover naengmyeon from dinner.” “And you’re really gonna eat it without me?” “Well you’ve been so focused on your piano, you didn’t answer me when I talked to you…” You trailed off with a smirk on your face. “Ah, Y/N, I should’ve known it was just a plot for you to distract me. Fine, you got me!”
Tumblr media
Yoongi
“How much longer until you’re done?” You asked for the millionth time. “I told you I don’t know, music is ready when it’s ready.” Yoongi murmured. You had already taken a nap on the studio couch, brought food, cleaned up and even written cute notes on every single page of his lyric book. Still, he wasn’t finished on the new song he was producing. “Can’t you finish it another time? It’s already getting late and we’ve been here all day.” “Y/N,” he finally turned his chair towards you “if you’re tired, I understand it. You can go home, I won’t be upset.” And just like that he was back staring at his computer screen. You were the one who was upset, and he didn’t seem to realize. “Fine. I’m leaving then.” You got up from the couch angrily, stomping towards the door. “Hey, hey, hey.” He managed to grab your hand and pull you back. “Baby, I know you’re not happy, but you know how I get once I’m in the studio. I promise I’ll be done before midnight.” “Midnight?! You’re lucky I’m in love with you.” You sat back on the couch containing a laugh, not wanting to give him the taste of victory.
Tumblr media
Hoseok
“And what does this button do again?” You pointed at a switch in front of Hoseok. “I told you, it helps hearing isolated vocals.” You could tell by his tone that he was starting to get annoyed, but he was trying his best not to. However, you loved how he got when you teased him, so you got bolder as each hour passed by in his studio. "And which is the one that controls the volume?" "Again, it's in that board in front of you. Y/N, that's why I don't let you come here so often, you always try to distract me and I get zero work done. I'm getting the feeling that you're just teasing me." He gave you a playful wink. "I know, but it's tiring to stare at you working all day. I just wanted some attention." You pouted, prompting him to pet your head and mess your hair. "Why don't you draw something? And then I'll use it as the cover of my next song." "You'd really do that?" "Of course! Just don't draw anything weird, baby."
Tumblr media
Namjoon
You knocked softly on the door before entering the room. “Hey, I brought you tea.” You said, trying to capture Namjoon’s attention. As you handed him the mug, you peeked at the books and notes in front of him. “Studying Japanese?” You asked before placing a hand on his shoulder, taking a better look at the texts. He hummed an affirmative, not taking his eyes off of the notebook even once. “The Japanese alphabet doesn’t look too different than the Korean one.” You stated. He turned to look at you for the first time, patting the chair next to him. “They’re actually not similar at all. Maybe it's because I’ve always known Korean, so to me they’re very easy to tell apart.” “Speaking of it, you still owe me some Korean lessons, right?” “Bring your books here to the table. We’ll have a study session together.” He smiled softly at you.
Tumblr media
Jimin
"Y/N..." Jimin whined for what felt like the 300th time today. "Please try to distract me, make up an excuse or something." You laughed at him. "You're a grown up, why don't you just stop working? You don't for need me to distract you." "But if you do, then I won't feel so guilty. I should've sent in these lyrics already, but I can't seem to finish them." You got closer to him, picking up the notebook and pen from his hands. "Let's see if I can help you." You pretended to ponder over the text, scratching your head. "Yah, don't joke around. Actually try to help me so we can order some food and take a nap." "Okay! Here, when you say 'a butterfly flew up', why don't you try some wordplay, like 'a butterfly fluttered by'?" You pointed at a certain line on the paper. "Y/N, that's why I always need you next to me, you're the best! Now come on, let's call it a day."
Tumblr media
Taehyung
Taehyung had spent the last couple of hours staring at his lyric book, but you hadn’t actually seen him write anything. Every few minutes his eyes would wander around the room, as if he was looking for inspiration. Seeing as he wasn’t really that focused, you decided to help him take a break, walking over to him and sitting on his lap. “Hello, baby.” He said as he put his notebook aside. “Fancy taking a break from work?” “Y/N, I really shouldn’t. I haven’t worked on this song in a while now.” His actions, however, were telling you the opposite. His hands were wrapped around your waist, bringing you closer to his chest. You placed your head there, and heard him sigh softly, his body relaxing under you. “Are you sure you don’t want a break?” “You know… I wasn’t actually that focused, so some cuddles won’t hurt.”
Tumblr media
Jungkook
“But how am I supposed to know which one it means?” Jungkook asked you, pointing at his English book. “It’s just like ‘read’ and ‘read’. When it’s in the present, you know it’s pronounced as ‘reed’. And in the past, you pronounce it as ‘red’.” “I see… but what about ‘lead’? They’re both pronounced the same, right?” His eyes were wide, shining with curiosity as he looked at you attentively. “Oh, but this is an easy one. One is a noun and one is a verb. You just gotta look at the phrase and you’ll be able to tell.” "Ah, you're so smart, Y/N. How much do you charge for your English lessons?" He smiled brightly at you. "Hm, let me see... It will cost you dinner and a cuddle session." "But teacher, you're too cute, you're distracting me! I think I'll need a discount." You both laughed, as you playfully hit his shoulder.

A Little into You (Junkyu x Reader) (Ch. 9)
Chapter 9 - A step further.
Word count: 3k words
Genre: Fanfiction, PG13, Comedy, Romance.
A/N: Hi! Here’s Chapter 9! Thank you so much for waiting, and I really hope you all love this one 😀🧡
Now, it had been three weeks since you last met any of the Treasure members since you all had that lunch at the Japanese Restaurant. What’s that? Did you read that right?
Yes, it’s been three weeks.
And by now, the group chat that you and the 5 members have, had already expanded after Yedam added in the rest of the group in there.
This was your first time being in a group chat with these many people. Aside from your office’s group chat of course.
So one day whilst at work, you received a text from the Treasure group you were in.
 Chatroom:
Junkyu: Yeorobun~ Jihoon is asking if you all want to get some IKEA meatballs after today’s schedule!
Hyunsuk: Oh? But we’re finishing quite late today. Are you sure they’re still open late at night?
Junkyu: Oh. Right. @Jihoon Hey! Why did you recommend IKEA?? You know they don’t open after 11pm!
Jihoon: 😂😂😂 I knew they don’t.
Junkyu: ???? Then? Why’d you tell me to ask the group about it??
Jeongwoo: 😂😂 Junkyu-hyung…
Jihoon: I just like messing with you. Besides, you chatted the group with y/n in it so…. 😏
Y/n: ….are you guys okay….
You smiled to yourself reading the chat again. It was silly, yet, amusing. You sort of missed talking to your new friends to be honest.
“Y/n, Mr Bae is looking for you,” your colleague, Soomin said, making you stop looking at your phone.
“Oh? Oh, right. I’ll go to him now,” You said as you got up from your seat.
Soomin nodded and went back to her desk not far from yours.
                                                               *
Jihoon was grabbing himself a cup of water from the practice room’s water dispenser when he heard his best friend yell from behind him.
“YAH! PARK JIHOON! What’d you do that for???” Junkyu huffed, as he entered the door of the room.
Jihoon chuckled and drank his water before setting the cup down and facing his best friend.
“What? I didn’t do much?”
“Yahhhh, that was so embarrassing!” Junkyu exclaimed, as he ruffles his hair.
“Hm? What? Hey, I only asked you to ask the rest about IKEA and you were the one who chatted the wrong group,” Jihoon stated matter-of-factly.
“We need to change the group’s name! Y/n must think I’m dumb now,” Junkyu said, pouting.
“Sure, sure, we can change it later. We can write it as Treasure x Y/n. How’s that? Sounds like a collaboration, right?” Jihoon snickered as he pulls out his phone from his pocket.
“Whatever, as long as I don’t have to embarrass myself anymore,”
“Hmm?” Jihoon hummed. “Since when do you care about what y/n thinks of you, huh?”
“I-I don’t! I just don’t want to appear dumb, that’s all,” Junkyu stuttered slightly.
Jihoon grinned at him, “Sure, Junkyu.”
“Hey!” Hyunsuk’s voice appeared as he entered the practice room.
Both Jihoon and Junkyu turned to see who it was.
“You guys are early today. Your vocal training ended early?” Hyunsuk asked as he headed towards where Jihoon was, grabbing himself a cup of water from the water dispenser as well.
Both Jihoon and Junkyu nodded at his question.
Hyunsuk gulped down his drink, disposed the cup and walked to the middle of the room. There, he sat down and gestured the rest to sit with him.
“What are you both doing standing there? Come, sit! You should get proper leg rest before we start dancing later on,”
Junkyu and Jihoon went towards him and sat with him.
“So…what do you guys want for dinner tonight? Minus the IKEA idea of course,” Hyunsuk said.
Jihoon giggled when he saw Junkyu tense up from the word IKEA.
“No, noo! I didn’t mean it that way Junkyu,” Hyunsuk said, laughing a little. “Really though, where do you all want to order from for dinner?”
“I’m fine with whatever you guys are having,” Jihoon said.
“You guys want to gather in one dorm and just eat altogether there?” Hyunsuk asked, now scrolling his phone, searching for a suitable food menu for dinner.
“Sure, sounds okay with me,” Junkyu said. He tugged on the string of his pink treasure hoodie, realising that the strings were uneven.
“Ahh,” Jihoon stretched his arms out before laying down on the floor. “Hmm. Hey, Junkyu, do you want to invite y/n as well?”
Junkyu choked on his own saliva hearing Jihoon mention your name again. “Wh-what??”
Jihoon and Hyunsuk started laughing out loud.
“Hey, Jihoon, stop teasing Junkyu like that. He’ll hit us both later if you keep doing that to him,”
“Yeah! Why are you always mentioning her name here, huh? If you want to invite her so bad, why don’t you do it, huh?” Junkyu huffed as well.
Jihoon got up and sat back up properly. “Hey, don’t say that. I just might really invite her, you know,” he smirked at his two friends there.
“But y/n doesn’t know where we live? And I don’t think the rest are ready to reveal where we live to her too. I mean, we’ve only known her for what, a month or two?” Hyunsuk wondered aloud.
Jihoon shook his head. “Who says it has to be at our dorms?”
“Oh? Then, where?” Junkyu asked, extreme confusion portrayed on his face.
Jihoon smiled, showing his eye smile at his friends. “I’ll take care of it. Just find us some good food for takeout tonight,”
                                                                *
“I don’t think that’s necessary Mr Bae,” you said, shaking your head from the idea he mentioned before you.
“Oh come on, y/n! You’ve been working here for over a year! It’s only reasonable you get promoted to do something else,” he said.
You kept quiet. Truthfully, you didn’t think you deserved any promotion at all. A raise in your salary? Maybe yes to that, but a new post?
Your eyes were kept lowered, as you stare at your thighs as you stay seated opposite Mr Bae’s desk.
Mr Bae is the president of the company, and yes, he is your teacher’s son. This was the man who gladly took you in to work with him when his mother was worried what would become of you when you missed your college entrance exam.
“Y/n,”
Your eyes lifted to look at him. “Yes”
“My mother would have wanted this for you too, you know.”
“I…I don’t know, Mr Bae,”
“What’s stopping you? Tell me,”
You shifted uncomfortably in the big chair you’re sitting in. You picked your fingers as you began thinking whether you should voice your concerns to your boss.
“Y/n?”
You inhaled deeply before letting out a deep sigh.
“Alright, fine. You caught me. I am worried. I feel like I don’t deserve this because first, I am the youngest person here, and to be promoted into an important team of the company just makes it seem fishy, don’t you think so? Besides, what’s everyone gonna say when they find out that I’m given that post when in reality all I have is a high school certificate??”
Your president grinned at this. This was the first time you have ever said anything this much to him. You had always been quiet around the people in this company, and seeing you rant out your concerns somewhat eases him.
Mr Bae leaned back into his tall, leather office chair. “Hmm. That’s it? That was all you’re worried about?”
You shook your head in disbelief. How could your president see this as a small matter? You were anxious about this, and yet he was so calm about it.
“Mr Bae, you don’t understand—”
“Please, call me Joonyoung. Or Joon for short. You’re my mother’s friend, and to be frank, our age isn’t that far apart, no?”
Your eyes narrowed at this, “Correction; I was your mother’s student. And, you’re literally 8 years older than I am so—”
Joonyoung laughed at this, clearly amused by you. “Alright, that’s fine, y/n. I’d understand why you’d benchmark yourself. You are indeed, way younger than I am,”
“Yes, indeed,” you huffed.
“But I still think you should accept the promotion,”
You scoffed. “Look, I told you, I am already concerned abou—”
“Soomin recommended you to be in her team too, you know,” he interrupted you before you could nag at him about your reasonings again.
That made you stop. You straightened your posture in your seat.
“S-soomin-eonnie? The one who seats not far in front of me in the office?”
“Yeah. She’s been asking for you to be on her comms team couple of times now, actually. I just didn’t want to push you before this because I knew you would refuse, with your ‘I am only a high school graduate’ excuse,” he said, adding quote marks when he mentioned your excuse.
“But…why?” You asked, confused.
Surely, Soomin is the only person you’ve interacted most in the office, and she’s quite young too, around 6 years older than you. But your interactions with her were mostly work-based. You were in charge of designing brochures, pamphlets, slides, creating reading materials and such for her and her team.
Whereas for Soomin, she was the leader in her unit, the Comms Team; they call it. What her team does was, they would go out on trips to other companies and provide a lecture or meeting for staffs and brief them on how they can incorporate and learn English language for their staff and companies. Sounds easy but it’s a handful once you’ve experienced the pressure of meeting people all around the city.
“So..?” Joonyoung’s voice broke you from your string of thoughts.
“Will you join Soomin? She’s been talking about how helpful you were to her and she felt bad that you were stuck doing all the computer work in the office.” Joonyoung got up from his seat and decided to peek outside his office’s window.
“She said that she felt like you had more potential than just being a person who sits at her desk and doing all mini jobs for everyone else in the office,”
“H-hey! That’s not true! I have students too,” you added, not wanting to make it seem like your job was that pitiful.
Joonyoung turned to look at you now. “Please, y/n, your students are the 3 staff that will soon be leaving to be relocated into Karako W’s office,”
You pouted. You almost forgot about the merge your boss had secured almost a month ago.
“So, let’s just say yes, shall we?” he smiled at you.
You let out a sigh.
“Great! I’ll take that as a yes!” he said happily. “I’ll let my mother know about this, she’ll be happy for you,”
“Sure…”
“Oh come on y/n, cheer up! You’re getting a promotion and a raise! Anyone would be happy to be in your shoes!”
You groaned. “Anyone but me,”
“Hey, at least now in your new post, you get to visit other big companies and collaborate with them,” he smiled, still convincing you.
You blinked a few times. You wondered if you ever got a chance to visit YGE’s company as well?
                                                                    *
You got back to your desk to see your phone buzzing non-stop. You hurried to sit down and looked at it closely.
4 new messages from Jihoon TRSR
“Huh? Jihoon-ssi?” you muttered to yourself.
Just as you were about to open the messages, your phone started buzzing again in your hands, but this time it was a heavy buzz since it was a call.
Panicked, you answered it without looking at the screen.
“Hello?” You answered, slightly whispering since you didn’t want to disrupt the quiet atmosphere in your office.
“Y/n! Quick! I need help!” Jihoon’s voice, rang in your ears, all panicked.
“What? Why? What’s wrong Jihoon?” you felt your forehead creasing, now that you heard his panicked voice. Did something bad happen to them?
“Y/n, please. You gotta help us. The management…Jaehyuk…”
“What, what?? What’s going on??” Your tone in your voice rose, now that you were anxious to know what happened. But Jihoon wouldn’t complete his sentences!
“Please, I’ll tell you all about it later. But you gotta help me, help us, please?” he pleaded through the phone.
You took a deep breath and exhaled. Your eyes dart around the office to see if anyone was watching you. None. Coast clear.
“Alright, Jihoon. What can I do for you?”
                                                                 *
“Bingo!” Jihoon said happily, once he got off the phonecall with you.
The rest of the group looked at him and wondered what he was so happy about.
Jihoon walked to his spot in the choreography formation and did some light stretches since he took a short break to call you just now.
“Hey, Hoon, what are you so happy about, huh?” Hyunsuk said, as he noticed his friend’s beaming reflection from the room’s mirror.
“Nah, I’m just happy about tonight, that’s all,” Jihoon answered, his bright smile still plastered on his face.
“Ookay…”
“Speaking of which, have you decided what to buy for tonight’s dinner?” Jihoon asked Hyunsuk back.
“Oh, I asked the rest and they said they wanted pizza. That good for tonight?”
“Sounds great! And I’ve got the perfect place for us to eat too, tonight!”
Doyoung clapped his hands at this, “Wahhh hyung, both you and Hyunsuk are really treating us really well tonight, huh? What’s the special occasion?” he asked.
“Oh nothing, it’s just for all your hard work today,” Jihoon answered happily.
“Yayyyy! We’re having pizza tonight!” Junghwan cheered happily.
“Oh yeah, where are we going to have dinner tonight? Hyunsuk-hyung’s dorm?” Jaehyuk asked.
Jihoon winked at his dongsaengs. “It’s a surprise.”
                                                                  *
 (Y/n’s Apartment – Nighttime)
 “Eonnie! Eonnie!” you called out.
Your sister’s breathing was ragged and heavy. Like she was suffocating badly.
You got up from your chair beside her bed and ran outside the room, hoping to bump into a doctor who wasn’t busy at the time.
You found one not far from the nurse’s counter, and you grabbed him by the arm.
“Doctor! Please, please, my sister—” you shook your head and gestured him to follow you.
When both you and the doctor arrived in your sister’s room, she was already shaking in her bed, her breathing more ragged now.
The doctor rushed in and checked your sister’s vitals and eyes.
“She’s having a seizure! Nurses, hurry!” he called out loudly.
Soon, you saw two to three nurses rush in to help the doctor.
You stood by the doorframe, holding on to it, as if you were going to fall if you ever let go.
You watched as they tried to tend to your sister and your tears wouldn’t stop flowing down your cheeks. You were sobbing on your own now, watching needles being poked into your sister’s delicate skin again.
You shook your head over and over again, sobbing.
Please don’t leave me, eonnie. Please.
You woke up from your sleep, panting.
You sat up in your bed slowly, trying to regain yourself.
It was a dream. It was only a dream.
You sniffled to yourself. You realised your cheeks were wet and you proceeded to wipe them on the sleeves of your shirt.
“Ah shucks. I can’t believe I cried in my sleep,” you mumbled to yourself.
Eeeeeekkk.
Your eyes widened. What was that? Did you hear wrongly? Or was it really a chair moving?
You gulped. You grabbed your phone on your nightstand and checked the time.
11.37 pm.
You frowned to yourself. Just how early did you fall asleep?
You kept quiet a little longer, just to see if there were any more noises.
A good whole minute passed by. No noise.
“Huh, I must be imagining things,” you assured yourself.
You were about to pull your covers over yourself again when you heard it again.
EEEEeeeeeekkkkk. Eeek.
That sounded like two chairs. Or specifically, the sound of the chair in your kitchen makes because you fairly remember how it sounds like ever since you removed the carpet underneath the chairs to be washed the other day.
Your heart raced. You slowly got up from your bed, slipped on your room slippers and slowly made your way towards the door.
You didn’t open your bedroom door or anything, since you didn’t have the courage to do so. But you pressed your ear against it, just in case you could hear anything.
“What are we doing here, hyung? Aren’t we trespassing?”
“Nah, we’re not. Believe me, this is legal,”
“But she’s not here. She’s probably asleep already,”
“Yeah, hyung, we should leave. This isn’t right,”
“Oh come on you all, she could be curled up in bed reading a book. Who the heck sleeps this early??”
You could your own breathing growing louder. Are there trespassers in your house??
Who should you call? Should you call the police?
Your head turned to look at your phone that you left on your nightstand. You decided to go over there to take it when suddenly you heard the doorknob getting turned.
This is crazy! You were in your pajamas and you didn’t have any weapon on you! Heck, you didn’t have your phone with you right now too!
You decided to just brace yourself and just throw in a hasty punch at whoever this trespasser is. The nerve! How dare they come into your home this time of the night?!
Just then, the door creaked open and you hurriedly pounced on the trespasser, making you both fall to the floor. Your eyes were shut as you swing your arms to punch the person but then you felt a hand grabbing your arm, making you freeze in your spot.
“Whoa! Easy there, cutie. What are you all feisty about?” a familiar voice spoke out.
Huh? That voice.
You opened your eyes to see….Jihoon laying on the floor beneath you, whereas his waist was trapped in between your thighs.
His hand was still holding on to your arm that was raised up earlier.
You furrowed your eyebrows. “Jihoon?? What are you doing here??”
“Aaahhh! I think I just saw something I shouldn’t be seeing!” You heard another voice screaming not far from you.
You lift your head to see who it was, and there it was….the rest of the familiar faces you know…all looking at both you and Jihoon with shocked looks.
  To be continued...

---
“Hey, don’t worry Virgil! Maybe I’ll see you around or something, if you’d like I could---”
The alarm rang at the worst possible time waking Virgil up from the angelic voice of the boy he couldn’t ever quite remember the face of. His voice however, he couldn’t forget it. Smooth like buttermilk and warm like a Summer’s day. Virgil didn’t recall it exactly, but he was certain he had a gorgeous smile. Anyone who treated him so.....nicely....must.
Pushing his bangs out of his face, he sat up and pulled on his purple stitched jacket which laid on top of his messy bed. One of his pillows was hanging off the side of his bed and his favorite stuffie laid lonely on the floor. His anxiety spiked as he saw his comfort item left there untouched. Quickly, he scooped the old teddy bear from the creaky wooden floor boards and sat him on the innermost corner of the bed on the remaining pillow that touched the mauve walls.
The alarm on his phone blared on, seemingly getting louder and louder as each precious second passed by. Virgil turned, shoulders rising parallel to his jawline. “Too....early....for this...” He groaned, slamming his finger on the button to turn off the ungodly noise. In the atmosphere now drifted silence. Virgil let out a sigh and began to gather his things for the day.
“Not so fast, emo boy!” Remus grabbed the back of the boy’s shirt as he tried to pass by the kitchen. “Ugh, put me down you neon disaster.” Virgil fought back, swatting the air around him, attempting to hit the taller being behind him. He could never move fast enough to catch Remus though. “Boys,” A voice called out from down the hall. They both turned, Remus’ wide eyed with Virgil still in his rather strong grip. Janus, their other roommate sauntered out of the darkness into the small glow of the kitchen light with it’s faint green hues. Janus pressed a mug to his lips and took a long gulp of his cold coffee. “If you’re going to kill each other, keep the house and I out of it.” He motioned to the counter and placed the cup into the microwave.
“Up late again, Snakey?” Remus dropped Virgil and walked up behind Janus, wrapping his arms around the even taller boy’s waist. “When am I not...?” Virgil looked away as they chatted, intertwined with each other like two pieces of red string that connected at the fingertips. This was no real surprise for him, he was use to seeing the two so affectionate. That’s how it always was when you found your soulmate....
Virgil couldn’t really understand how. Maybe it was his lack of experience with romance, or maybe he just refused to believe in something that he was convinced would never apply to him. Love....now that was something he could laugh at. Who on Earth could love him? Besides Janus and that dumpster fire of a person he was tied to, no one else really stuck with him. He was convinced it was how easily he could push other people away or his unfriendly nature. No matter which one it was exactly, the only thing close to love he would ever get was inanimate objects that never spoke back and those two drooling all over each other. The love that he did get, wasn’t the kind he was searching for. Virgil appreciated what he got immensely, without Janus and Remus, he probably would feel more alone than he already does. But they didn’t look at him how they looked at each other; no one looked at him that way.
“I should head out.” Virgil announced as Janus pulled his warmed up coffee cup out of the kitchen appliance and set it back down in front of him. “See ya!” Remus stuck out his tongue to Virgil and went back to embracing his lover. “Stay safe.” Janus told him without looking up, exhaustion closing in on him similarly like how one would imagine Remus’ embraces to be like; noticeable and slightly aggressive.
Leaving the house, he popped in his headphones and pressed shuffle on his Spotify playlist named: Drowning out the fucking from the next room. This playlist included and not limiting to, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, and MCR (Obviously.) Why he made this playlist started off as a joke and then transformed into him successfully being able to block out even the most unholy sounds, like people talking to him, or Remus being Remus.
As he walked down the street with his hood up, the words of the mystery boy played in his head. Who was he? Why was he so often in his dreams? Maybe it was pure coincidence. That he was so low that his brain felt the need to create a love interest out of thin air for the lonely boy. Wouldn’t that be something? Ridiculous....Virgil thought to himself. On autopilot, he went through the motions of walking up to his local coffee shop and ordering something for Remus, Janus, and himself. The barista who knew him by face at this point asked him what he wanted. He answered the same most every time, only occasionally switching up the order. It was easy to stick with what he knew, and it never disappointed, not when it’s a hot cup of coffee with caffeine you could practically taste just from the scent.
“Have a great day, sir!” She smiled handing Virgil his hot coffee as well as a baked good for Janus and an espresso drink for Remus. Not that the borderline chaotic evil idiot needed so much coffee, because he surely did not. But Virgil would rather just go along with it to avoid conflict. “You too.” Virgil tried to push a smile since she was always nice to him. As Virgil began to walk out the door, he noticed the sky was particularly blue today. I’ll take a little detour...He thought to himself, nodding once.
Passing Virgil by were children with parents smiling and giggling as the warm breeze blew through their hair, people walking their dogs, and teens making their way to the skate park which was about a ten minute walk from where he was. The buildings lined in a row opened up to a park with a large water fountain in the midst of the area. Why not..He shrugged making his way into the park. Butterflies fluttered and children’s laughter could be heard. The overall feeling of this place gave Virgil a feeling of contentment that he hadn’t felt in some time. Breathing in and out, he took advantage of this feel-good opportunity. He sat down on a nearby bench, leaning until his spine touched the back of the seat. “Excuse me?” Virgil’s eyes shot open and he pulled the earbuds out of his ears. In front of him was a golden haired boy with freckles planted on his cheeks and nose.
Virgil felt his chest began to explode with so many emotions. “Oh! Did I disrupt you? My bad!” He apologized. The boy’s voice was so recognizable but for some reason, Virgil couldn’t figure out exactly where from. It hurt his brain as he fished for answers but came up empty handed. “No! It’s uh....it’s okay...” Virgil’s voice quieted as he began to speak on. The boy gave a wide smile. “I just wanted to say I really like your hoodie. I’m Patton.” He held out a hand. “Thanks,” He swallowed a lump in his throat as he looked at Patton, now feeling a new kind of anxious. “I’m Virgil.” Patton shook his hand gently. “Did you make it yourself?” Virgil looked down at his purple and black stitched hoodie. “Yea, I did.” Patton’s face lit up. “That’s so cool!”
“I hope this isn’t too weird but, do I know you from somewhere?” Virgil couldn’t seem to place the familiar feeling he felt when looking at Patton. It was like being engulfed in your childhood blanket for the first time in years. It felt....right...
“Uh, I don’t know but, I was thinking the same thing.” Patton pressed a finger to his lip and pondered for a moment. They stood there for a moment, their surroundings making up for the lack of words. The boy in front of him brushed it off with a shrug and looked back into Virgil’s eyes. “Well, anyhow, I should probably be on my way.” Patton giggled. Virgil felt his heart sink into his stomach. The golden haired boy placed a hand on Virgil’s shoulder, looking into his eyes as if he could read how the dark boy felt.
“Hey, don’t worry Virgil! Maybe I’ll see you around or something, if you’d like I could give you my phone number!” Virgil nearly spit out his coffee at the words he said. “What did you say!?” He exclaimed. As Patton repeated his words, he covered his mouth instantly. Everything in that moment clicked. The boy’s smile, his gentle and kind demeanor, he was Virgil’s dream boy....
How did this simultaneously make so much sense, but also not at all? What would he say? What could he say? Was there any real approach that wouldn’t make him look like an idiot? “Do you believe in soulmates, Patton?” He asked breathless. Shock ran through Patton. “You....” Patton tried to speak. “I think....” They both stared at each other for a long moment, taking in the awe and wonder that had for each other. In that moment, they were no longer strangers, but a story yet to be written. “Patton, I think you’re my soulmate.” The boy’s eyes widened and then softened as his lips curled up into such a dazzling smile. He pulled out a blue colored sharpie from his bag. “May I?” He pointed to the coffee cup. “Oh!” He handed it to him and Patton began to write something on the white part of the cup. He handed it back a very star struck Virgil. “Please call me.” After that he gave a little wave and left, disappearing behind the water fountain and out of sight completely.
Virgil sat there, brain full of questions racing at a million miles an hour. I need to get home. Without wasting anymore time, he quickly made his way home, practically running. “Welcome back, Vi---” Janus tried to say but stopped as he took a glance at the expression on his good friend’s face as he walked through the door. “I think I just met my soulmate.”
“Well, God damn, My Little Paranoid!” Remus answered. “He gave me his number and---” Remus cut him off. “GO CALL HIM NOW!” His voice boomed in he small house. “Remus, give him a bit he’s probably overwhelmed.” Janus turned from the couch, looking over the side at Virgil. “How do you feel, Virgie?” He asked. “I---I think I forgot how to breathe.” Virgil stared at his own shaking hands. “HAHAHAHAHAHAH!” Remus cackled. He ran up to the shaken boy and took the drink and baked good for Janus. “Try to calm down and when you’re ready, go call him.” Janus eyed Remus, emphasizing his words. Remus began to chug his drink. “What?” He asked after a large gulp. “Okay! Thank you!” Virgil ran up stairs into his room.
Jumping onto the bed he examined the cup and very slowly punched the numbers in. He stared at his phone for a minute. Is this really happening? Or is this just a dream I’m living in? Virgil shook his head. “I’m gonna do it...” He with great hesitation pressed the call button, the ringing making him jump. It rang once, then twice, and finally....click!
“Hello?” Patton asked, cheery like a Summer’s day.
“Hey.”

haikyuu!! third gym squad taking the ib diploma programme
Tumblr media
ok... my friend and i got rlly stressed the other day and made headcanons for these guys if they were to take classes in the ib... it’s like a levels but like... a bit more death!
for my ib diploma folks you can just hop on over and read what i’ve hc’d but for my non-ib folks, lemme give you a bit of an introduction to the ib diploma programme.
characters included: bokuto koutarou, kuroo tetsurou, akaashi keiji, tsukishima kei, haiba lev, hinata shouyou
Tumblr media
THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME is a rigorous two-year pre-college program in your last two years of high school. a full programme consists of one class from each of the six required groups (totalling to 6 classes), which are G1 - first language; G2 - second language; G3 - social sciences; G4 - natural sciences; G5 - mathematics; and G6 - arts (though, arts is optional, and can be switched out with another subject from G3 or G4).
within these six courses, students are required to take at least three high-level (HL) courses and three standard level courses (SL), but some students may take four HL courses and have two SL courses (kind of a rough one tho).
just to note: there’s two types of math courses - applications and interpretations (Math AI) and analysis and approaches (Math AA). MAA courses are known to be harder than MAI courses because students do more theory work and have non-calculator sections in exams, unlike MAI courses where calculators are required for every exam. also, it is possible for a person to take IB courses instead of the full diploma programme, but i’m not very well acquainted with that variation of the IB programme so we’re just going to assume all the boys got 6 courses.
okay. i am so sorry i just lectured you on a whole school curriculum. anyways. back to haikyuu!!
Tumblr media
BOKUTO KOUTAROU : Japanese Language and Literature HL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Geography HL, SEHS (Sports, Exercise, and Health Science) HL, Math AI SL, Economics SL
ok so it’s canon that this dude is not doing very well in math but his parents made him do higher level math at first poor boy >:(
he started the year off in higher level and thought he was gonna be fine
no. he was not fine.
so he ended up switching his math hl to sl and his japanese sl to hl
IT IS CANON (special chapter in volume 19 titled “i just forgot” where bokuto has a wholeass crisis about words) that bokuto’s really one to actually really like to think about how words work and function as systems in the same way ib language courses do!!
actually having him do japanese ll hl is just an excuse for me to keep him in math sl sorry
i mean koutarou may be my fav tax evader but he really did sit through two years worth of econ classes... smh
mans is Not listening and has to rely on yukie for notes but he just memorises case studies for exams and does not do anything else
i feel like he just takes mandarin because he thought it was the easiest one... he also thinks the words sound similar so it’s easy to memorise
he’s a pretty good communicator so he practices his mandarin quite a lot. as in, he’s made friends to talk to in mandarin. we love to see it!!!
also. um. i hc that he’s pretty decent at memorisation so geography!! this goes for memorising all the kanji and mandarin characters too
i think SEHS is pretty self-explanatory. mans already known he wanna be a pro athlete might as learn about being healthy as an athlete
Tumblr media
KUROO TESTUROU : Japanese Language and Literature SL, English B SL, Business Management HL, Chemistry HL, Math AI HL, Biology HL
now... we all know this mf been taking chemistry hl. it is CANON
and as per his career path... DEFINITELY business management hl
i feel like he’s so analytical in the way he sees things that he likes to explore many areas of knowledge where there are different ways of thinking
takes english as a second language because... whew.. aint it sexy when mans wanna be multifaceted in business
also takes higher level biology because he’d rather not with the languages... but later on i believe he ends up in a higher level language class because he might as well
i feel like kuroo’s classes just give me a vibe i know too too well...
mans takes math ai. he does not wanna fuck around with a pencil proving a theorem he just wants the answer bro
like in volleyball, he’s a quick thinker. so he’s pretty g with math and business stuff
i literally know someone with this class combo ... it’s not very chill but it screams “you never see me do any course work but i always get at least a B+ in every subject”
Tumblr media
AKAASHI KEIJI :  Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AA SL, Visual Arts HL
now... this subject combo radiates such pretty energy
pretty subjects for a pretty boy
he was originally going to do biology sl but then found out there is chemistry in biology so he just decided with chemistry. plain and simple.
we all know akaashi is both emotionally and academically intelligent
he’s logical and analytical, and when faced with a tough time he works through it well albeit going through a little bit of struggle
this automatically puts him in math aa... i just see him actually liking proving theorems???
but maybe he just thinks his calculator is a nuisance sometimes and would rather solve everything by hand
also art boy! this dude likes graphic design more but when it comes to traditional art he does Not Hold Back
i like to think that he’s into painting backgrounds and mixed media
if he didn’t take VA, i’m pretty sure he would take economics. because. it’s quite systematic and i think akaashi would take a liking to it
as for japanese ll hl... we all know this dude was supposed to be a part of the literary section in a magazine/manga company but was moved to editor
goes hand-in-hand with psychology, likes to know how words convey meaning and how they affect people
he also thinks french is kind of a cool language. i feel like this guy just wants to do it because it sounds cool and novel for him
all in all, pretty solid subject combo!
Tumblr media
TSUKISHIMA KEI : Japanese Language and Literature HL, French Ab Initio SL, History HL, Biology SL, Math AA HL, Instrumental Music HL
4 hl’s... here we are folks
honestly does it for colleges to go like “holy shit this dude is kinda crazy”
but does suffer... coursework tings :)
first of all this dude takes french (even though it’s a beginner’s class) because he just loves to sound cool huh
the summer before his courses started he would have had the basics down after looking through free ib textbooks
plus, being the guy that’s super good at a new language in the class is a huge ass flex and a big ass ego boost. and anyways, with language, he thinks it’s just a lot of simple patterns working together.
this also applies to japanese ll hl... finds writing essays and making arguments ez (at least that’s what he tells himself - he’s kinda nervous when it comes to japanese but he holds on anyway)
practices extra hard on pronunciation. sounds hot tho
math aa hl??? there we go. another crazy one. thought he could ace the class at first.... no. no he couldn’t
thinks about moving down to sl. probably does. (at least it’s not math ai)
history and biology go hand in hand for him. he has significant interests in prehistoric times, and likes to learn about the origins of life - that’s a given
but he does get tired of the politics talk in history like... goddamn all these people making so many mistakes? just stop making them smh
and instrumental music was just something he got onto because he really would like to just have a course where he could enjoy himself while also learning about the stuff he likes
nobody knows what music he listens to... but i think he’s willing to listen to anything as long as it’s music and it has the kinds of vibes he digs
Tumblr media
HAIBA LEV: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Mandarin Ab Initio SL, Psychology HL, Chemistry SL, Math AI HL, Theatre HL
i don’t know how to explain it but lev has such strong psych and chem energy
yes haiba lev’s classes are the ones i picked via roulette wheel
jk not really
here’s the thing though, lev takes psychology because he thinks econ, business management, history, ess, all that jazz is just... absolutely boring. like. super. mf-ing. boring.
so he’s like ooh cognitive processes!
kinda hates that he has to study research methods and research methods ONLY at first but when he gets the hang of it he really finds it one of his fav subs
i actually have no explanation for mandarin ab initio sl... he just seemed like the kind of guy who would wanna do the class solely because he thinks mandarin sounds cool with their intonations and everything
plus he heard that the teacher gives mooncakes every lunar new year ad he. loves. them.
okay now hear me out.
lev is good at math.
maybe not lightning speed analysis or calculations like akaashi, but he finds solving problems fun! except for when they’re without a calculator bc he HATES doing calculations by hand
he can get a bit clumsy with his hand calculations too so it’s nice to just have a calculator on hand
literally only does math ai for the sake of using a calculator at all times (a/n: i take this class, and this was the reason i took it too. COMPLETELY VALID)
and then does theatre for the fun of it!!! confidence levels high for presentations and performances... good fit
kinda thought that ib theatre would be his easy A but oh how he was wrong... hates the research tasks at first but he gets used to it
Tumblr media
HINATA SHOUYOU: Japanese Language and Literature SL, Portuguese Ab Initio SL, SEHS HL, Geography HL, Math AI SL, Theatre HL
his classes are bokuto energy but with theatre and portuguese
MANGA SPOILERS! we all know he started thinking abt going to brazil in his second year of high school, and the ib diploma programme starts in the last two years of high school so it fits PERFECTLY
lowkey most of the boys take japanese ll sl because they just. have to.
this is also hinata’s case <3
SEHS HL!!! he has a vision for the future and it definitely involves him understanding health and sports and everything like that, especially after nationals in his first year :(((( still sad abt that
but he’s motivated for this higher level class because he’s really just gonna go all out with the research
math ai sl because... he prolly don’t give a fuck about numbers!!! (it hasn’t been made clear already, but math ai sl is the lowest level math course)
he also took theatre hl because even though he does get scared at first, he’s a natural when it comes to learning new cultures
he’s just so curious about it all and it makes him quite engaged in the class as well!!!!
also kinda took theatre because the other subjects were just not it for him
about geography... he hates memorisation but he also hates everything else in the social studies group so
he just gets by by trying to find the little details of the things he’s studying interesting because really... geography class is just the base of all the places on his bucket list
hinata’s def one of those dudes who picks his subs purely off of liking because we all know he’s going. any subject that isn’t based off of liking is usually a mandatory subject anyways

A Road to Somewhere, Chapter 1 (Adore Delaska) - Puppy
A/N: So, I’ve been wanting to write a Spirited Away AU for some time, so here we are. Spirited Away is my favorite Studio Ghibli film (plus the first one I ever saw) and I thought it would work in this setting.
I would like to thank @thackeryisatop and @chaoticnachokitten for helping me beta. Also thanks to @chaoticnachokitten for helping me with final casting.
I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing this first chapter.
Chapter 1
Spanish Translations for Chapter 1:
“Ojalá que sobrevivan” - “I hope they survive”
“Puedo abrir la ventana?” - Can I open the window?
“Mierda” - “shit”
“Mija” - “my daughter”
~~
The jolts of the car startled her out of possibly one of the best naps she’d ever taken. Besides, it was the snake dream again, so it wasn’t anything new. Adore blinked herself awake and stared out the window and directly into the sun. It was so bright that she could barely see a thing. She couldn’t tell if they had left California or not, and she didn’t want to ask her mother if they were there yet. That kind of shit doesn’t fly now that she was a thirteen year old girl, practically an adult in her perspective. From the likes of it, it seemed that they had driven for 5 hours, yet the drive didn’t feel like it was getting any shorter.
Her phone was nearly dead and her mom had the charger at the moment, so there wasn’t any use trying to get some more juice on it. No one wanted to look at her updates on the trip. Heck, even Ganja was probably too busy with Gia and couldn’t be bothered with their own things to pay attention to her. They’ve probably been to San Francisco before; it wasn’t anything new. In the meantime, she just stared at the bouquet of flowers Laganja was thoughtful enough to buy.
“I’ll miss you, Adore. Until we meet again.” The messages on the card read with Laganja’s signature following it.
She appreciated the sentiment. She really did, but it seemed to her that they could’ve done more than just carnations. She was almost surprised that the flowers had survived this long considering the heat. The whirring of the engines and the occasional voice from the GPS kept her from napping any longer. “Moooom?” Adore groggily maneuvered herself within earshot of the woman driving the car.
“We have about an hour left. I think you can handle it. Now get back in the back, Dory.”
She sighed and sulked in her original spot. “I really don’t see why now was a good time to move. Azusa was, like, the bomb.”
“Me neither, but think on the bright side. There won’t be as many knife fights and we might get a cat at the new house. And your cousin says the middle school is great. You’d fit in well, I hear.”
“But Ganja won’t be there…” She whined, leaning back a little farther and scaring herself with the crinkling of plastic. “FUCK!”
“Watch your language.”
She whined. “SHIT! They’re all sad now.”
Bonnie glanced in the rearview mirror at her daughter and a newly crumpled bouquet of flowers. “Maybe you shouldn’t have smothered them.”
“Someone finally sends me flowers, and it’s for this. Great. They’re probably gonna die before we even get there.” Adore never doubted the California heat; that was an apt excuse for her pessimism, right? On top of everything else that had happened today, her gift wilting away into nothingness would be a perfect ending to this already hellish day.
“Ojalá que sobrevivan. We’ll put them in water as soon as we can.”
“Ma? ¿Puedo abrir la ventana?”
“Sure,” Bonnie responded. “Hold onto the card,” she shouted over the sounds of the wind blasting into the small car, “You don’t wanna lose it!” Her daughter took that word to heart and shoved the note in her jean shorts’ pocket. They’d be at the new house sooner than later if she took another nap, but it felt like something out there was keeping her awake.
It must have been that same force that subtly influenced Bonnie to avoid the GPS and swerve into a wrong turn, thrusting the seat belt-less Adore to the other side of the car. Thankfully, she was unharmed.
Bonnie cursed in Spanish before slowing down her drive. “I must’ve missed the turn. Mierda. On the bright side, I think there’s a rest stop up ahead so you can stretch your legs or do whatever it is you need to.”
“What’s with all those rocks? They look like houses.” Adore poked her head out of the window to get a better view, her Ariel red hair whipping behind her.
“Never mind. At least we made it.” Her mother parked the car and stepped out. The more the two looked around, the less it seemed like a normal rest stop. There weren’t any park benches or vending machines; hell, there weren’t any other people besides them. It was simply the Delanos, the forest, the road, and the structure ahead of them. “Ah… now I got it. This probably used to be some tourist trap in the early eighties.”
“Why’d people stopped coming?” Adore wondered as she observed the framework of the building. Maybe it’s the fact it’s in the middle of the fucking woods, Adore. She blinked as a voice in the back of her head answered her rhetorical question. “Y’know what? Screw it, I’m going in!”
Bonnie grabbed her hand, halting her daughter in the process of rushing through the entrance. “No you’re not.”
“Come on, I just wanna look at it. Only for a few minutes!” The redhead whined as she wiggled her hand out of her mother’s grasp. “I’ll be, like, right there and back…”
“I’m… gonna call the movers. Tell them we’re gonna be late and-” Before she could finish her sentence, Adore ran into the tunnel. “Let’s hope they have a key.”
The teen stopped and looked behind her. She could barely see her mother on the phone as she was washed out by a pool of light. The tunnel felt longer than she expected, as she never fully felt like she reached the middle. A breeze blew behind her, urging her to go forward. It may have been strong enough to blow her over, but it felt gentle in places too. If Adore was to fall, the wind would probably catch her and set her on her way. She scoffed and went on her way, faster as the wind pushed her.
This place wasn’t like any other tourist trap that she had encountered before. It was mostly a field with a small collection of buildings far off in the distance. From what Adore could see of the buildings, they were foreign in nature - Japanese, probably considering California’s history. An old straw hut struggled to stay upright at the wind, decorated with dandelion seeds from a far off field. The cobblestone she was standing on eventually gave way to a dirt path towards the infrastructure. A clock tower stood on top of the structure behind her: dormant, yet imposing. A little farther down the path, there was a collection of rocks. Bonnie shortly caught up to her and they both took in the view.
“Damn… we should’ve brought a picnic.” Adore muttered off-handedly. As if on cue, a savory smell wafted through the air.
“Come to think of it, I am starving. Let’s see if there’s something up ahead.” The two women went on their way down the path and towards the little uphill town. “They were probably going to put a river there,” Her mother pointed to the rocks, “Would’ve been neat.”
Adore followed suit, becoming more aware of the noise of the footsteps. The more she traveled down that path, the less she wanted to stay. The less she felt wanted. However, she hadn’t eaten in a couple of hours so it was worth it. She had enough energy to hop up the stairs without tripping.
When they entered the town, it was mostly deserted. There were definitely sounds of action and evidence that people had been there before. Occasional piles of bones stacked on top of plates from previous customers and some orange peels had been scattered around the ground. “Are any of these still open? It’d be a dick move to come in, like, fifteen minutes before they close.” Adore wondered aloud before, as if by magic, the two arrived at a buffet. There were a few catches though. From what they could see, there was no one at the kitchen or at the cashier’s. “Maybe they’re on a break?” she continued, but her mother ignored her.
“Mija, you’ve got to try this!” Bonnie shoved a forkful towards her daughter, who stepped away
“I don’t think I oughta. Also… vegetarian, remember?.” Her mother ignored her as she scarfed down whatever was in front of her. Adore didn’t care how good it looked, she didn’t want to eat it.
“This is the only time we’re gonna have anything of quality before we get to the house. Come on, you’ve gotta have something… When was the last time we ate? Breakfast?”
“Yes, but isn’t this, like, kinda stealing? There’s nowhere that specifically says ‘all-you-can-eat’!”
“Don’t worry about it,” Bonnie said with a mouthful of chicken, “I’ve got credit cards and cash. I’ll pay when someone gets back.”
Adore just scoffed and wandered off while her mother engorged herself with whatever was in front of her. They were going to be here for a while, so she’d might as well get a feel for the place. She glanced at the empty shops as she walked, hoping that another one that was more her speed was open and manned properly; however, she had no money so she was basically screwed. The redhead trudged her way up another flight of stairs towards a sign. She couldn’t quite make out what it said, but it didn’t really matter. She turned to her left and gasped, noticing a building she hadn’t seen before.
“Wha?” Adore blinked to see if she was seeing it correctly. It looked like a traditional bathhouse. There was some steam or smoke coming from a chimney-stack, so there had to be some people inhabiting this ghost town. “That’s strange…” she pondered. If so, why weren’t they out and about? What was so great about the saunas that everything else needed to be neglected? She grabbed a ponytail holder and put her hair up into a messy updo and approached the bathhouse.
As soon as she was about halfway across, she was startled by a sudden rumbling of the bridge and a crossing train, or at least the sound of it. “I… guess there’s a station nearby.” She talked to herself before speed-walking to the other side to see it cross. She hopped up onto a railing and leaned forward to get a better look. The farther the train was out of sight, the more cautious she was becoming. It was as if someone, or something, was watching her every move the moment she came to the bridge. When Adore stepped down from the railing, her suspicions were confirmed.
A girl who looked about her age (perhaps a little older) stared at her, gasping as Adore made eye contact with her. It was as if she had run into an old friend. She had blonde hair that went to her mid-back and was slightly taller than her with a fairer complexion than her. There was something definitely odd about the lady, but she couldn’t quite place it. The two stared at each other for a bit as the sun began to sit behind them. There was something familiar about her, but too familiar. There was no time to focus on formalities though.
“You shouldn’t be here, you know,” The blonde charged towards Adore.
“Wait what? Why?”
“No time to explain. It’s getting dark.” She increasingly grew more panicked, pushing Adore farther and farther down the bridge. “You should leave. NOW.” It was nearly too late for words now. The sun was setting faster by the second and lamps began to light behind them. She collected herself for a moment and whispered in Adore’s ear, “I’m sorry, but I have to do this. I’ll distract them so you can get away faster. The woman then pushed her towards the last stretch of the bridge at the edge of the staircase.
Adore looked back at the woman. She couldn’t quite understand what she was doing, but she noticed something come from the other girl’s hands. They looked like flower petals… or scales, perhaps. She wasn’t close enough to fully determine the material. “Bitch didn’t have to push me though…” she mumbled to herself before running off to find her mother again.
She called her as loud and as frequently as she could. Her voice could’ve given out at any moment without hesitation. Thankfully, the redhead was able to determine her location; it seemed like anyone could hear the sounds of her chewing no matter where they were. “Ma! Ma! Ma! Ma! Ma! Ma!” She tugged on her mother’s arm, but she didn’t budge, “We gotta go! We gotta go! It’s getting dark! I don’t wanna be here anymore! I’m-” Before she could apologize any more, she witnessed the hand she was holding turn into a cloven hoof. The face that then faced her wasn’t human. Adore stared at her mother’s bovine features as she stepped back. “Mom…” She remained frozen in place as the pig that sat in her mother’s face continued to gobble at whatever was in front of her.
There was something grotesque about her mother being treated like that. A frog-like spirit appeared from behind the counter and beat the pig with a flyswatter as if she was some common pest. Adore covered her ears as she heard the pleading squeals from the sow that used to be her mother. She jumped when Bonnie eventually fell down. There was nothing she could have done at this point. Many more spirits surrounded Adore, signalling the human to run for her life. She had clearly seen enough in one day.
The girl remembered her path the best that she could. She spotted the clock tower in the distance; she knew the exit was closer than she thought. Adore ran down the steps, nearly tripping over her own feet. She could have been seriously injured if not for the body of water that caught her. For a split second, she wished she could have sunk to the bottom of the makeshift lake, or at least she’d become a mermaid and swim to safety. Alas, she couldn’t swim that fast and she couldn’t even drive yet. She was simply stuck.
She came face to face with an oncoming riverboat. For all she knew, it could have been manned by ghosts as well. She was able to make out a few figures at it reared closer to shore. It was almost like Noah’s Ark in a sense that the inhabitants were mostly animal spirits. They were conversing; she could overhear bits of small talk. It was like they couldn’t even notice the sopping wet human off in the distance.
Adore crouched down and curled herself into a ball. This had to be a dream, right? She hoped she was still in the car drooling over her shirt and covered in the petals from Laganja’s wilting flowers. She and her human mother would be at the house by now, and she’d get around to settling in her room with a phone at full charge. She rocked back and forth with her head in her hand. “Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck! Wake up, goddammit!” Adore slapped herself. “Just go away…” She muttered after calming down. She realized soon enough how poor of a word choice that was.
As she attempted to shield her eyes from the boat’s lights, it was all in vain. She could see the boat through her hand. In time, the boat docked and the animals disembarked while continuing their conversations. As soon as they touched the land, something strange happened. They transformed into more humanoid states. Some of the spirits still had hints of their true forms though. There were ones with beaks and webbed fingers; some still had their original ears and tails as well.
Adore quickly backed away into a corner, hoping to not be noticed. Although it wasn’t like she was going to due to her current state. She crawled up a hill when she was fully out of the procession’s line of sight. When she went to a haven of safety, she crawled back into a ball. All she felt like doing more than anything was to fully disappear into the nothingness that surrounded her. She was taken out of her daze by someone tapping on her shoulder. Adore jumped slightly and turned towards the touch; it was the girl again.
“Don’t worry. I’m trying to help here.” She shoved a berry towards Adore’s lips. “Please. Eat this. You need to eat something from this world in order to stay in this world.”
“Aren’t you gonna apologize for fucking pushing me?” Adore tried to push her back in retaliation, but it was no use. She had simply passed through.
“Alright, I might have been a bit harsh. Are you going to eat this or not? I promise it won’t turn you into a pig.”
The redhead opened her mouth, letting the berry fall into her mouth. She chewed as her face twisted, reacting to the taste. It was a little tart for her taste and not very filling, but if she needed to eat to save her life, then so be it. Her shoulders dropped, becoming less tense. She didn’t know why, but she felt so much calmer around this stranger.
“There we go,” The blonde held her hand and squeezed it lightly, “You’re here. You’re alive. You’re okay.” Her touch felt strange to Adore. Her hands were rough, but not calloused. It was as if they were covered in something other than skin. Scales perhaps? She was cautious enough not to rub the wrong way.
“I’m okay,” she parroted back at the woman.
“You see? Now, come with me.”
“Wait!” Adore yanked the standing girl’s arm, bringing her back down to eye-level. The blonde sat down and listened attentively. “What about my mom? She didn’t really turn into a pig, right?” She asked as if she didn’t see her transform in front of her. Hopefully, this was merely a trick of the eye or her brain was making her see things from fatigue. It had already been a long enough day; the last thing she wanted to do was cry.
“You’ll get to see her soon enough, but not right now.” She put a hand on her shoulder, but quickly stopped herself. There was danger lurking around and she could sense it. “Fuck,” she muttered under her breath, pulling the human into her and shielding her body from the force that followed her. “Don’t move.” Adore couldn’t help but stare upward.
There was a large black bird, no bigger than a vulture, circling the area. The strangest thing about it was the head. Instead of a beak and feathers, it was a shrunken human head. She couldn’t quite make out what or who the head was supposed to resemble, but the face didn’t seem happy. After a few more swoops, she clung to the person, enjoying her protective nature and the touches.
“I think we’re good. Let’s go.” The woman attempted to bring the young human to her feet, but couldn’t. It was like her legs refused to move.
“Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no…” Adore hyperventilated, but was quickly shushed.
“Calm down. Take a breath. Can you do that for me?” Adore nodded her head while the mysterious woman smiled. “Lemme… do this real quick. In the name of the waters and earth beneath me, unbind this girl from the land.” Her hands glowed a radiant white and Adore stood up, as if by magic.
“That thing is probably after you. We have to get you out. Now.” Before she could properly thank her rescuer, the magical woman gripped her palm and started to run.
And off they went.

I’ve been putting more and more aspecs into my writing lately. This fic in particular is being written extremely scattered, so i have no idea when it’ll be posted, if at all. But I wanted to at least share the aspec bits I have written!
Here’s Touka’s segments!
(Word Count: 1100)
(Warning for a brief scene of romance)
[This takes place shortly after Dragon, while the ghouls are all still staying at the CCG]
“So, how long have you loved him?” Touka asked.
Hide glanced away.
“Oh, come on! You made me tell you mine! Now it’s your turn!”
Hide sighed. “I don’t really know. I’ve cared about him for so long. I’m… not really sure at what point it became romantic.”
“Then how long have you known?”
“I guess... Since he left the 20th Ward for those 6 months?” Hide replied. “I just... couldn’t stop thinking about him. I so badly wanted him at my side, to hold him and kiss him and have him here beside him.” Hide chuckled. “Almost normal crush stuff, right? Except so much worse, because he could have been in trouble and I had no way of knowing.”
Touka frowned, humming.
“You okay?”
“Huh? Y-yeah. I just...” Touka glanced at Kaneki. “I just...want him to wake up.”
Hide had a feeling she wasn’t telling the entire truth, but he didn’t press. “Me too.”
-
So often, Nishiki would be hovering around Kimi’s work areas. He’d find any excuse at all to visit her. And whenever she wasn’t immediately busy, he would pull her into a kiss. Kimi would always berate him, yet she always kissed him back.
Touka groaned. “Get a room!”
“Maybe we should.” Nishiki whispered to Kimi.
“How about after she does her job?” Touka deadpanned.
“She’s right.” Kimi gently pushed Nishiki back. “This is important. But once I’m done with this, I’ll be free for the rest of the day.”
“Deal.” Nishiki leaned in again to kiss her. This time, Touka actually gagged aloud in disgust.
“Oh come on!” Nishiki snapped. “You’ve gotta know how we feel! Kaneki was out for 2 weeks! For us, it was years! I know you felt the same way!”
Touka bristled, but said nothing.
I know how they feel…?
Because Touka didn’t. She had missed Kaneki, sure, and it had hurt so much seeing him unconscious for so long, and so many times she was worried he wouldn’t come back to her. But kissing, specifically? That wasn’t something she had missed or desired. Why would she?
Yet Nishiki and Kimi made it sound so obvious.
-
Touka stared at the quiver of green arrows in the corner of the room. The arrow tips had a certain shine to them, like it was made of kagune.
“Is that a quinque?” Touka asked, gesturing with her head to it.
“Hm? Oh, yeah. I recently started going outside, and Nishiki-kun managed to convince the investigators to give me a quinque.”
“A bow and arrow?” Touka asked.
“Yeah.” Kimi went over to the other counter and picked up a high-tech bow made of quinque steel. “I’m glad the CCG had bow and arrow quinques. They fit me pretty well.”
“Fit you how?” Touka asked.
“I’m glad you asked!” Kimi smirked. “I’m on the aromantic spectrum. I’m an aromantic archer! An aro with arrows!” She drew the bow back and posed.
Touka blinked at the use of so many foreign words. She was bad enough at Japanese, nevermind English. “What?”
“Aro-mantic. Arrows. Get it?”
“Vaguely.” Touka replied. “I get the wordplay, I guess. But what does aromantic mean?”
Kimi set her bow back down. “Oh, it’s a romantic orientation. People who don’t experience romantic attraction like the majority of the population does.”
“Romantic attraction?” Touka nearly scoffed. Romance was just a societal concept, wasn’t it? It wasn’t an inherent feeling like sexual attraction was! ...Right? Although the more she thought about it, the more she remembered how disconnected she felt from kids her age when it came to romance. It was like they all understood some joke she didn’t. It was almost like… they were experiencing something she didn’t.
She would definitely need to research this later.
If she ever got access to a computer.
Ugh. Damn Doves.
Touka supposed she had no choice but to ask Kimi, then.
“So you’re this… aromantic?” Touka asked.
“I’m in the grey area of the spectrum, but yeah, I am.” Kimi nodded. “I found out I was arospec back in my final years of high school. Archery was kind of claimed as aromantic culture for the puns, so I tried it out on a whim and I ended up really liking it. I even joined an archery club, although by now its been a while since I’ve practiced.” She set the bow back down.
“It sounds… like I might be aromantic too…” Touka admitted. “I know I have sexual feelings for people and that I’m bisexual, but… I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a romantic crush on anyone.”
“Ah.” Kimi sat down. “I’m bisexual and aroflux. I experience sexual attraction to all kinds of people and it's stagnant, but my romantic attraction always comes and goes and fluctuates.”
“Interesting.” Touka whispered.
“So it’s definitely possible for you to be aromantic and bisexual!” Kimi said.
-
“The Rabbit incident.” Hide said.
“Yes.” Touka whispered. “I only managed to kill one investigator. Amon swooped in and put up a pretty good fight for being unarmed. And then Mado showed up and got a hit on me.” She gestured to her arm.
“She had gone alone, against Anteiku’s orders.” Kaneki added.
“And Yoshimura wanted me to learn my lesson, so he was gonna let me live or die on my own.”
“That’s horrible.” Hide whispered.
“I was hardly going to die from a sliced arm.” Touka said.
“But I couldn’t accept that. So I went to help her.” Kaneki continued.
“And that’s when he said it.” Touka said.
“I’d be sad if you died.” Hide quoted.
“Huh?” Kaneki asked.
“That’s when she first fell for you.” Hide said.
“O-oh.” Kaneki started blushing.
“Well, I guess that’s not quite the right word.” Touka said. “I didn’t fall in love, but... That’s when I first realized that Kaneki actually cared about me. I didn’t have much of that. And certainly no one that spelled it out like that. It meant a lot. It really did.”
“Touka-chan.” Kaneki whispered, pulling her into a hug.
“Don’t cry on me, you sap.” Touka said teasingly, but embraced Kaneki back.
“And that’s also the first time she called me by my name.” Kaneki added.
“That’s really cute.” Hide said.
The two of them blushed.

Mankai’s 5th Mixed Troupe Play: Yin Yang Midnight 1/ 3
Tumblr media
This story takes place during the Heian era-- The extravagant culture and lifestyles of the wealthy elite are coming to an end as murmurings of a mysterious Onryo begin to spread through the court.
Then suddenly, an unexplained plague begins to sweep through the streets of the city. The epidemic moves swiftly through the royal court until the emperor himself falls ill.
Characters
Sakyo as Abe no Seimei
Azuma as Kou
Citron as Geppaku
Guy as Hisui
Explanation of terms
This story is heavily based on traditional Japanese religious practices and thus some Japanese terms will be left to preserve the meaning of the story. I have also included links to wikipedia artists explaining the terms if you would like to read more.
Heian Period: Japanese era that lasted between 794 - 1185 AD.
Onmyouji: A person who practices “Onmyoudo”, a spiritual practice common in Japan during the Heian Period. Onmyouji were responsible for keeping track of calendars, performing rituals, etc.
Onmyouji Bureau: An official department in the royal court made up of Onmyouji who served the emperor.
Onryo: A vengeful spirit that returns after death to cause chaos.
Shikigami: A spirit companion that is summoned by an Onmyouji to help with tasks. They can possess animals and use magic, however it takes a lot of strength from the Onmyouji to control their Shikigami properly.
Due to the length of this play, I will be posting it in 3 parts
[ Part 1 ] [ Part 2 ] [ Part 3 ]
Tumblr media
Onmyouji Chief
Seimei, you heard about the disease that is spreading through the city, right?
Seimei
I have.
Onmyouji Chief
Well there’s only one other person who knows this but...
The Emperor has fallen ill.
Seimei
--!
Onmyouji Chief
But if this got out to the rest of the imperial court, it would definitely incite a bunch of useless panic.
There would probably be a power struggle if this news got out that the emperor is in critical condition.
So, let’s pray he recovers from this.
You should go perform a purification ritual immediately.
Seimei
Understood.
Tumblr media
Seimei
Cleanse the heart, cleanse the body
Kou
Leaving all the grunt work to you again? Tch.. Typical.
Despite your efforts, you know they are just looking for someone to scapegoat, right?
Seimei
Don’t say such things, Kou!
Kou
Yah, yah, whatever.
Seimei
--
Kou
..... Something’s coming.
Tumblr media
Seimei
Make haste, follow my command!
Kou
Too bad, he got away.
Seimei
..... What’s the meaning of this?
Kou
Were you even listening to me? This is all just busy work.
Seimei
The Emperor’s life is in danger.
We must hurry!
Tumblr media
Onmyouji Chief
It’s an Onyro you say? Don’t be ridiculous.
There are no gaps in the boundary of the imperial court.
If that were the case it would mean one of our fellow onmyouji has turned on the great emperor himself.
Completely impossible.
Seimei
Well...
Onmyouji Chief
Seimei.
Was this your plan all along? To put the blame on some so-called Onryo as an excuse for why you couldn’t complete the purification ritual?
No matter how hard you try, you’re still as conceited as ever.
Seimei
-- I wasn’t trying to make excuses for--
Onmyouji Chief
Then step down!
Let someone else handle the ritual.
Seimei
...
The Onmyouji Bureau tasks Abeno Seimei in charge of holding the purification ceremony in order to cure the emperor. However, during the ritual, Seimei encounters a troubling sign that convinces him that the plague sweeping through the imperial court is the work of an onryo. Seimei then sets out to find a way to exterminate the spirit from the court.
Seimei brings his findings to the head of the Onmyouji Chief and is met with laughter. Without the support of the Onmyouji Bureau, Seimei struggles to continue his investigation.
Tumblr media
Kou
You don’t need those shitheads. They’re gonna realise they were wrong sooner or later.
Seimei
I doubt it.
If we don’t take action now the damage is only going to get worse.
Kou
But those higher-ups at the Onmyouji Bureau got their eyes on you so there’s no way you can just move around freely.
Seimei
But Kou....
I can’t just sit back and watch!
Kou
You work too hard. Hope you don’t regret it.
Seimei
I don’t care about all that nonsense, just tell me what you found.
Kou
I told you already. The barrier surrounding the imperial court is pretty strong, so strong I doubt even we could break through. An onryo could never slip through.
Seimei
.... That’s just like what the Onmyouji Chief said... Right?
Geppaku
Master Seimei.
Seimei
-- Geppaku? You came back!?
Tumblr media
Geppaku
I got here yesterday. Sorry I didn’t write you sooner.
Seimei
I see, long time no see!
Geppaku
You look happy as ever, I’m glad!
Seimei
Same for you, Geppaku.
You look just as healthy as I imagined.
Geppaku
Thank you so much!
Even far from the city I caught wind of some rumors.
Seimei
Guess even I couldn’t stop that.
Geppaku
What’s with that blank expression? Did something happen?
Seimei
You didn’t happen to hear about a mysterious plague sweeping through the city, did you?
Geppaku
Yes, I heard no one knows where it came from.
Seimei
I’m afraid it is the work of an onryo.
Sadly I just couldn’t catch it myself....
Geppaku
Perhaps maybe I could lend you a hand?
Seimei
Really?
Geppaku
I don’t really know if I could do much, but I’ll do whatever I can to help, please let me try.
Seimei
What a lifesaver!
With you at my side, Geppaku, there is nothing we can’t do!
-- Kou.
Kou
You called?
Seimei
Please enlighten Geppaku on the curse of the vengeful spirit.
Kou
Ehh, I’m kinda not feeling it right now.
Seimei
Excuse me, this is not a question of whether you want to do it or not.
Kou
Fine, whatever.
Geppaku
Hehe, what a quirky shikigami you got there.
Seimei
I don’t know how I put up with him, really.
Geppaku
On the flip side, he definitely seems pretty strong!
That’s the Seimei I know!
Seimei
You too, Geppaku.
How goes your training? You have to tell me all about it later.
Geppaku
I can’t say I am as nearly as adept as you, Master Seimei.
Seimei
What are you saying? Surely by now our skill levels are almost even.
Seimei is at a loss of what to do when an old student of his, Geppaku, appears. Geppaku is a foreign boy and because of that, despite his strength, was unable to enter the ranks of the Onmyouji. Geppaku returns to Seimei after he had left the city to continue his training.
Geppaku volunteers to help Seimei and from there the two begin their investigation into the cause of the epidemic. However, Seimei’s shikigami, Kou, does not seem to like Geppaku much and acts coldly toward him. Seimei does not seem to notice this, however. Towards the end of their research, the pair hear of another happening outside of the town that could be related to the so-called onryo. The duo make haste to the scene.
Tumblr media
Seimei
So this is where all that commotion about that onryo was coming from?
Kou
This is right about where the first case broke out.
And also around the same time of day.
Seimei
I don’t really know if there’s any relation, but it’s definitely something to look into.
Villager
’s there somethin’ I can help ya with?
Seimei
You didn’t happen to hear anything about an onryo sighting here, have you?
Villager
Ah well ya see...
I was pretttyyy drunk one night,
‘nd I saw it riiiight here. A big ol’ ball ‘o fire flew up and I tripped at this ‘ere stone and whaddya know a will-o-wisp came flyin’ out!
It had some kinda creepy glow.
I got quite a shock and nearly poo’d my pants.
I dun remember a thin’ after dat though.
Tumblr media
Seimei
A rock, huh... Seems like such a childish prank for a ghost...
It makes me kinda worried.
I have never heard of anything like this before, let’s look it up, Kou.
Kou
Hey hey, isn’t that something a little heavy for a Shikigami?
Seimei hears about a sighting of the spirit from a villager who encountered it during a drunken evening. Intrigued by the story, Seimei tasks Kou to see if there are any similar stories from inside the city.
After looking into it, Seimei realises this spirit is not just a simple prankster, but in fact a strong force that could even penetrate the safeguards placed around the city’s borders.
To be continued... Read part 2 here!

December Goals Update
Time to round up the stuff I got done! This one is a big update, despite both accomplishments and this january’s goals being quite straightforward this time. ^-^)/
I already know - I ended up focusing on one very specific goal, and made significant progress JUST in that. And... if I do what I am PLANNING for January... then hopefully I’ll make more progress. But lol, we’ll see. We know how much I suck at sticking to my plans >o>
Things accomplished:
Chinese novel chapters read in December: 20 (Tian Ya Ke - 19, aka read about 24% of the novel this past month! This was the big goal I ended up focusing on - I want to finish reading through my first full novel this year! I did a majority of those chapters in the last 2 weeks, so if I get motivated again, I might really reach this goal. We’ll see. I REALLY do want to break the milestone of getting through one complete novel soon, and it being a priest one would be icing on the cake. Reading method - intensively, using Pleco Reader, looking up all unknown words. I picked up a significant amount of words so far, but it’s still a big challenge lol).
Chapters I studied with Listening-Reading Method: 8 (Most of these were Tian Ya Ke, and dmbj 2. I ended up getting really into reading though, and skipping this step later on as it slowed down my reading time. This January, I would like to do l-r method MORE, because I’ve finally got Guardian all prepped to do that novel with it. I’d love to do l-r method all the way through the novel guardian... I hope I manage it... avenuex did a beautiful audiobook for it, and I’d love to work through it. The only demotivating factor? l-r method takes a big time dedication - 5-10 minutes to read a chapter in english, 20 minutes to listen to the chapter while looking at the english text, 20 minutes to listen to the chapter while looking at the chinese text... so around 50 minutes to do a single chapter. And guardian has 106+ chapters ToT. That said, imagine how improved my listening skills would be after roughly 88* hours of listening to chinese I can mostly comprehend? Considering just a handful hours of l-r method has already bumped my listening skills up noticeably to me. In addition to Guardian, I would very much like to do l-r method with Silent Reading as an excuse to re-read the novel and listen to the audiobook - which is around 66 free chapters available at least. I figure l-r method with priest novels, in combo with reading priest novels like Tian Ya Ke, will help with picking up vocabulary in reading and listening a bit. Plus, I plan to do l-r method in the order: listen to english, then listen to chinese, which tends to help me pick up more reading comprehension better than the reverse order.)
Chinese audio listened to: 14 (a surprisingly large number? I don’t remember doing this much lol? I think some of this is me listening to dmbj audios, and some was other chinese things, and a tiny bit was restarting the spoonful chinese audio. Again, I think listening more has been helping out a lot)
shows watched in only chinese: roughly 2 (I watched a bit of a few eps of border town prodigal, some tlt3 raws, some short vids, half of anti fraud league ep 1, half of some spy show, basically i was not in a focused mood lol)
Personal goals met:
finally got my stomach to stop hurting! i guess it wanted less carbs. also debloated 10 lbs so i guess its happier lol. still not sure what else it wants from me.
started writing a personal story, period piece with pirates and bisexual messes and i’m quite excited tbh. So now this story, and Nanase, are active original wips
handled doctor stuff wooh!
read more of my cpstd book and made more comprehensive plans on what to do when i get emotional flashbacks - and i think the prep work has been really helpful so far, i’m hopeful my lowered stress now is a part of that lol
formatted 2 books! WOOH! in process of formatting 2 more, and learning how the fuck to do a parallel text - anyone know how??? I’m having a nightmare, I’d love to do left page english right page chinese, but all I’m finding are how to use columns to do dual texts beside each other on the same page. Which is much more cramped to read... but I suppose I can live with it if it’s the only option I have.
Goals for January will be pretty straightforward to be honest. I am in a very reading-focused mood. (I mean we’ll see how long that lasts, ToT since my attention jumps randomly, but I’ve got everything Prepped to lean heavy into reading for my studying for the foreseeable future). I plan to focus on reading as my main study method, to cover listening and reading and picking up vocabulary/hanzi. Optionally, I might listen to chinese audio in the background to further help with listening/vocabulary (like Chinese Spoonfed Audio, or audiobooks), or I might watch a show in chinese (whether I do this completely depends on if I feel like it).
Later on in the year, if reading is getting easier - then long term, I think I’ll want to go back to Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters book and read through it for a solid foundation to fill in gaps, read my chinese grammar books for same reason, use my pronunciation app... and then dive into both language exchange apps and tutors more firmly for actual writing and speaking and interacting with others. Basically, long term, I’d like to work on filling in my gaps and correcting any mistakes I haven’t figured out, then work on production more which will be significantly weaker skills by then. But in the immediate, I want to just focus on what I enjoy - reading - and use it to pick up as many words as possible.
Goals for January:
Continue reading Tian Ya Ke. Work on reading through my first complete novel in chinese. Continue counting chapters read, as I might look at a few novels - but sincerely, I WANT to focus on one book so Tian Ya Ke is the GOAL. I will be quite happy if I can get the book to 50% read by the end of this month, but we’ll see... and quite honestly I’ll be floored if I get to 100% within the month - but if it gets easier as I pick up more words, anything’s possible. Ideally, I would like to l-r method a few chapters. I do think it speeds up my reading speed because it makes me keep up with the narration, and it also helps me cement new words into my memory better. I remember words better when I hear them. However like - chapters tend to take me 40 minutes to read, and l-r method takes usually 15-20 minutes because of how dense priest’s chapters are. So... l-r method chapters take 1 hour a piece... if I get into a reading mood, I’ll ultimately probably just primarily focus on the reading.
Secondary goal, not as important, I will start this if desired but it might wait until February+. Listen-Read Method Guardian, until I’ve gotten through the entire novel. I finally have all the translations gathered up, I’ve got my chinese copy of the novel, and avenuex’s audiobook. I have everything ready to simply start. However, as mentioned, this is a time heavy activity. I do think it will be very helpful for improving my listening skills, and to a degree also - helping retain my reading skills, push my reading speed up a little, and maybe help me pick up some new words. I think it will be a very compatible activity with goal 1, or a nice follow up activity to goal 1. Also it is the DREAM, as that novel is what pushed me to start learning chinese initially... so I am very excited to read through it. Ideally, I start this activity AFTER Tian Ya Ke, and I do a full readthrough of the chapters like: read in english, audio with english, audio with chinese, read intensively in chinese. Basically, I would love to include a full intensive read through of Zhen Hun at the same time I’m l-r method’ing it. However that will be Even more time sapping, so that’s not necessarily gonna happen unless my reading speed for priest novels is a little better after Tian Ya Ke. I need to get through the chapters read in chinese in closer to 20 minutes instead of the current 40 minutes it takes me.
Optional. Listen to chinese when I can - in the background like Chinese Spoonfed, audio books, audio dramas, and by watching shows in only chinese. If I have time, and I feel like doing these, I will. It’s easy to add doing this to my day, so when I remember to do them, they’re helpful.
Main Goal for January - continue reading Tian Ya Ke. <3
Once that’s completed, next main goal - Listen-Read Method with Guardian.
See? Really extremely straightforward goal for January. Simply keep reading! I think the more I read, the easier it will get, the faster it will get, and the quicker I’ll be able to get through a LOT of the novels I want to check out. So... I have to start doing it, if I intend to get better.
Unrelated notes:
I’ve gotten really into Drakengard 3 lately. Which by extension, means really into Nier Automata again, Nier (Nier Replicant remaster is releasing and I am getting the version with the scriptbooks and am intensely excited), and Drakengard. Yoko Taro’s wild concepts and fascinating characterizations and way of telling stories has sucked me in again. And I am reminded how very much eventually learning to read Japanese IS still a long term goal of mine. I’m back to playing like 3 games right now I could so easily be practicing my japanese with... if I remembered any japanese ToT. It’s like at the edges of my brain... I remember the hiragana and katakana after a minute or two... the kanji I’ve completely forgotten, but since I know a lot of the meanings from chinese now, I can often parse out the meaning of sentences in manga I’ve got... I can’t remember the particles off the top of my head or when I listen, but when I read their meaning clicks again fast... I know that when I go back, its just a matter of a crash course and then diving in again. And wow am I eager. But I know myself, and japanese is gonna take a WHILE. And chinese is currently taking a LOT of dedication, I don’t even really have time to work on my french reading lol. So I would really prefer to get at least another year in chinese before even trying to start studying japanese again. (And realistically 2-3 more years of chinese, because I genuinely think a solid basis in speaking skills/basic listening skills, and generally Competent webnovel reading skills I want before I stop actively studying chinese... because by that time I’ll want to keep reading/listening to chinese for pleasure, chatting when needed, and if I stop studying before that point I know I personally will just end up needing to relearn some big chunks. I also think if I try to go back to japanese before that point, I will have major issues confusing the two when reading. My japanese was upper-beginner when I quit, and when I started chinese I sped past that point in chinese to the point pretty quickly chinese blocked out what japanese i knew and it made japanese reading easier but only to a point. My chinese I’d put at ‘beginner’ still?? But compared to my japanese its significantly farther - in chinese I can currently read manhua without a dictionary and get enough to translate most of it myself, and read simpler novels and get most of it, and read more complex novels and get the gist main idea even if its a slog.
With japanese? Ahahahahahah! I was able to read the very simplest of manga and only get the very bare main idea gist, could NOT even comprehend any novel, and could play a video game on MEMORY of what i knew the context was, only picking out quite basic words. However, even though my chinese has gotten a fair bit further... I want it even further before I stop actively studying it so much. I want it to the point its where my french reading level was at about 2.5 years into french (or honestly, a bit Better than my french was tbh). I want my chinese to be to the point, where I recognize enough hanzi that I can guess the meaning of some new words, that I can look up most new words with with pinyin because i at Least know the pinyin for most hanzi i see, and where in most not-too-difficult webnovels i read, I know enough of the words, that i can comfortably follow the gist of the main plot without too much strain even if i miss details. so at that point, I’ll still likely want to build up my vocabulary more - so that i can learn to translate, and so that i can pick up details easier, and read faster. But I’ll at least be at a point where i can easily maintain the skills i have and improve them a bit naturally by just continuing to read. I mean... realistically even, I should try to keep studying chinese a lot at that point... I really, really want to be able to read chinese novels. But that’s probably the minimum at which I’d feel quite comfortable focusing on another language intensively.
With japanese, I already have a study plan too! A study plan I know works for me! It’ll be so simple! Parts 1-4 would be structured study, parts marked + would be options to move onto, and parts marked * would be activities that could be done concurrently.
The japanese study plan, whatever year I finally can get to it:
Listen to Japanese Audio Lessons (japaneseaudiolessons.com). I did this before, and it helped my listening comprehension/vocabulary pick up so much.
Read Learn to Read in Japanese Vol I, II, III (by the same people). I loved these books back when I started them, the best mnemonics that I’d found for myself to pick up the kanji - easiest way for me to pick them up without brute forcing it.
(concurrently with above) go through Nukemarines LLJ memrise decks. Literally, just CRAM through those. I did that at the 2+ year mark for japanese, and that was REALLY when I was finally able to start reading and trying video games, so it clearly was what worked for me.
Read my book Read Japanese. Haven’t tried this yet, but it looks like a good place to progress, This would be done after step 1+2, either concurrently with Nukemarine or after Nukemarine depending on how much is done. Just cram Through this book since it’s got a lot of basics in the beginning. Its in the same structure as my DeFrancis Chinese Readers and very well suited to my learning style.
Read my Tuttle Read Japanese book. More difficult, goes into like 2000 kanji, a ton of vocab, and most people who read this said afterward reading regular japanese material was quite doable.
+If my Nukemarine deck is completed - move onto one of my japanese decks with more words, or Clozemaster Japanese sentences.
+If my japanese audio lessons are completed - move onto one of my other japanese audio collections like the japanese pimsleur that was condensed, or that website with a ton of condensed audio of episodes (https://www.paliss.com/). Or youtube channels like Game Gengo (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT12i1gB38HG1olutL08nID8gaGWHZS4v).
+at the point Nukemarine’s deck is done, Listening-Reading method with japanese novels is an option.
+at the point I’m done with all Read Japanese books, may read through some other japanese textbooks I have, starting with: Japanese Particles and Common Sentence Structures, Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Guide.
*Find a japanese reader equivalent to Pleco (check subreddit r/learnjapanese, r/refold, r/massimmersionapproach). Start reading whatever japanese novels I want. Which knowing me, will probably be light novels, maybe some visual novels, and video game related materials. *Ideally this step would be done last, but knowing me, it’ll be done whenever i feel like starting - could be attempted as early as midway through the Nukemarine decks.
*Listen to japanese - so many options here, realistically it would be me playing video games in japanese, watching jdramas, watching/listening to spinoff material of stories I like like the YorHa stage plays etc. Can be attempted as early as midway through Nukemarine decks.
*reading manga could be anywhere in this list, although I don’t do it much anymore. But I was just getting to being able to try this last time I was studying japanese, so I could start up again whenever. Only negative, I would say, is I think my improvement suffered back then because I was too scared to try reading actual novels. So novels are prioritized as reading material. It would be nice to help translate some mangas though - so there’s an option.
*maybe try translating some japanese things i have interest in, at a late point.
I think maybe, the biggest thing studying chinese has taught me about how i learn languages, is that I improve faster when challenged. I learn better when challenged. I tried to read Chinese novels from the first few months (not well, but i tried lol), I watched chinese dramas from day one, and I tried to watch chinese shows only in chinese from month 5 onward. From month 5 onward I started trying to talk/write with people (knowing maybe 400 words at first, quickly bumping up to 1000 words in a month cause of just needing it, so it definitely helped me). And when I started listening to audio more, my listening skill noticeably improved within a few months. As a result, my chinese in a little over a year is taking much less time to improve then I projected it was going to (I figured the progress I’ve made so far, was going to take 3-4 years). Whereas with japanese, I didn’t try to start reading or playing video games or listening a lot until 2 years into studying... and I also didn’t make any noticeable improvement until then. So going into any language study moving forward, I’ll do more to challenge myself earlier. Since clearly its helpful to me.

SK8TERBOY - Skaterboy!Yeosang/Soft!Reader Social Media AU ft. side pairing: Seonghwa/OC
Genre: Pure fluff
Pairing: Seonghwa/OC
A.N. Uh bonus story because I love them so enjoy, also this took so long bc I just didn’t know how to end it but hopefully I ended right for you guys and kept adding more to it.
This is just pure, sweet fluff (and maybe slightly suggestive? idk). Writing this made me very soft and weak even if I thought the writing wasn’t the best. I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it! There’s a tiny bit of jealously on Seonghwa’s end bc I’m a tiny bit evil, but it ends up to leading to something cute ok.
Also Sumire speaking in tiny and being a flustered and shy bean is a constant thing throughout this and mentions of past badboy!Seonghwa cause I am weak.
Italics = Japanese
Summary: A nice date between Seonghwa and his adorable girlfriend, Sumire. With a lot of undisclosed (fluffy) feelings and an unexpected confession on his end.
Taglist: @philosopher-of-fandoms @mangobee @mingiibabieee @yourbunny-xxii @angelichris-b97 @yeosatinyngz @kimtae-bae @etherealskzs
(let me know if you want to be added to the taglist for SK8TERBOY!)
Masterlist.
Bonus.
Seonghwa felt nervous as he walked up the doors of Sumire’s apartment. Today was the day he would take his lovely, cute girlfriend on a date. Granted this wasn’t the first time they went on a date, but it had been a while and he maybe he was feeling needy to spend a day with her and shower her with his affections despite the constant backlash and teasing he gets from his roommates.
Taking a deep breath, he gathered all the courage he could and knocked on the door, waiting for a few minutes before the door swung open. Sumire glanced up, staring at him behind her round-framed glasses as her hair was pulled back into a messy bun. He knew that she had yet to start getting ready since she was still wearing her sweater and some pajama pants on.
Cute, he thinks as he fought the urge the peck her lips. Her eyes lit up at the sight of him and gave him a small smile. Very cute, he thinks again.
“You’re early, I thought we were going to meet at the cafe?” She asked as she moved to the side to let him in. He stepped inside and took his shoes off and followed her.
“I know,” he said, “I was just too excited to wait that I decided to come here first.” A small mew was heard as he glanced down and saw the gray and white ragamuffin kitten pawing at his legs. With a smile, he reached down and picked up the kitten with ease, “Hey, Iroha,” he cooed as he pressed his lips to the kitten’s head.
“Don’t spoil her too much,” Sumire said, “She still needs to eat breakfast first,” she said and headed into the kitchen while he followed and took a seat by the dining table with Iroha settled on top of the table.
“Okay, okay,” he let out a small chuckle as he watched Sumire start to prepare Iroha’s meal. Usually, she would give Iroha her standard meal, but since they’ll be on their date for most of the day, Sumire decided to give her a special meal for being left alone with Yusung to watch over her.
Once she was done, she placed Iroha’s meal on her plate and called out to her, “Iroha, come and eat,” she cooed. Seonghwa placed Iroha down on the ground so the kitten wouldn’t hurt herself as she attempted to jump down from the tabletop and watched as the kitten made her way over to Sumire’s feet.
The sight itself made Seonghwa’s heart swell as he watched Sumire continue to coo at the kitten in her native tongue. He sneakily took his phone out and started to record the scene before him, wanting to replay the scene whenever he got the chance. It was just so domestic seeing her act like this, god it made him weak.
“Iroha, come and eat,” Sumire continues cooing as she led the kitten toward her own corner with a bowl of water and set the plate down. Seonghwa was practically cooing himself as he watched Iroha start eating while Sumire had a bright smile and pets Iroha’s back.
“Ugh, you’re being too loud,” a low voice grumbles as they all turned to see Yusung with his hair messier than usual as it was in all sorts of directions, although his eyes brightened when he saw Iroha. “Oh, Iroha-chan, are you ready to spend the day with uncle Sungie?” he asked as he went over to Sumire’s side.
“Don’t spoil her today while I’m gone, idiot,” she said as she nudged him with her shoulder.
“Ah how cold, you should have more faith in me, Sumi! I promise to take care of Iroha-chan while you’re out on your date with the best friend stealer,” Yusung pouted.
“ ’Best friend stealer’?” Seonghwa frowned, “Wait, do you mean me?!” He gawked at Yusung.
“Who else would I be talking about? She’s my best friend and you stole her attention away from me,” Yusung mocked pouted as he held Iroha in his arms once the kitten finished eating as Sumire excused herself to her room to get ready.
“We’ve known each other since high school!” Seonghwa said, feigning hurt. It was true, despite that the two never really talked much with one another until recently.
“And it took you how many years to ask Sumi to be your girlfriend?” Yusung raised a brow at him. Seonghwa opened his mouth to argue, but close it as he felt his cheeks burning. He was the only person (not counting his annoying roommates and friends) to know how long he had been pinning after Sumire, but he had been too shy and nervous up until they were partnered by their literature professor last year.
He still thanks Professor Kim for the opportunity, allowing him to finally ask out the love of his life.
“Alright, touche,” Seonghwa muttered, glancing away from Yusung.
“Touche on what?” Sumire asked as she finished changing and walked over to them.
“Nothing, just talking about when we were in high school,” Seonghwa said. Yusung had a mischievous glint in his eyes as he decided to tease the hell out of Seonghwa now.
“Speaking of high school, remember when you dyed your hair blonde and got that lip piercing because you thought Sumi would notice you if you stood out more?” Yusung chirped, his usually teasing tone in his voice, “It was hilarious to see you attempt that bad boy persona too!” Seonghwa’s face now had a red hue across his cheeks as he stood up suddenly. He did not want to hear his taboo past especially with his girlfriend around.
“Okay! I think that’s enough reminiscing for one day!” He said as he grabbed Sumire’s hand and led her towards the door, “Come on, Sumi, let’s go don’t want to be late for our date, right?” He rushed out as he pushed her out the door.
“Good luck on your date love birds! Don’t do anything I would do! Especially you, lover boy!” Yusung snickered as he waved Iroha’s paws at them. Seonghwa glared at Yusung, mouthing the words ‘I’ll kill you if you say anymore!’ before closing the door.
Sumire had a small pout on her lips, tilting her head at Seonghwa, “What was that about?” she asked confused as to what Yusung was blabbing about. Seonghwa still had a slightly flushed face before shaking his head.
“It’s probably nothing, you know how he is,” he said. Sumire hummed as she paused before speaking up.
“You had a lip piercing?” She asked.
“Uh, well...” Seonghwa felt nervous as he glanced away from her stare, “I mean I used to...” He glanced over at her and almost let out a small gasp when she placed her hands on his cheeks. She leaned close, eyes squinting as her thumb ran over his lips. He shuddered as he parted his lips slightly as she continued to stare at his lips.
“It doesn’t look like you had one,” she mutters.
“Y-you know, if you wanted an excuse to touch my lips, you could have asked,” he said. Despite the small stutter, he felt a sense of pride when she stared at him with wide eyes as her cheeks turned red and quickly moved away.
“Sorry!” She squeaked, “I was just curious when Yusung said you had a lip piercing before and-” she cuts herself off and turns away, placing her face in her hands, “Oh god, I’m sorry-”
Before she could continue, Seonghwa moved to face her and placed his hands on her cheeks, “You’re so cute when you’re flustered, babe,” he said as leaned down and pressed his lips against hers. Her cheeks were burning as she shut her eyes tights, too embarrassed to look at him when he pulled away.
“So? Did it feel like I had a lip piercing?” He asked with a teasing grin.
“Ah! Shut up!” She shrieked and hit his arm repeatedly, “Forget I asked, I’m going back home now!” She turned to walk back into the apartment when Seonghwa wrapped his arms around her, preventing her from reaching the door.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” He said with a smile, suppressing his giggles, “Sorry, you just looked so cute, I couldn’t help but want to tease you for a bit.”
“How could you pull a Yusung on me,” Sumire pouted, “After all the times I defended you whenever you make a fool out of yourself in front of the others,” she faked a tear.
“Hey! I do not make a fool out of myself!” He protested.
“Last week you literally asked for the others’ permission to take me out on a date today,” She pouted, making him glance away sheepishly.
“Okay, okay,” he chuckled, “I guess maybe I do make a fool out of myself sometimes, but it’s all for you baby,” he said, but she continued to pout at him, “Stop pouting, what’s it gonna take for you to stop with the cute pouty lips?”
Sumire paused for a second before looking away shyly and muttered softly, “Maybe another kiss?” Seonghwa smiled, but he wanted her to say it again. Despite it being a year being with him, she still felt nervous and anxious around him when it comes to being affectionate, but Seonghwa never once pushed the pace of their relationship as he wanted her to be comfortable around him.
“What was that? I couldn’t hear you,” he leaned closer to her, pressing his forehead against hers. Her cheeks were burning again as she nervously glanced away.
“Hmm, maybe...another kiss?” She asked shyly. Seonghwa grinned, feeling his heart quicken.
“If that’s what it’ll take for you to quit pouting then...” he leaned forward, capturing her lips with his again. They stayed like this for a few more seconds before they heard a coo along with the sound of a flash going off.
Pulling away, they two looked over and saw Suzaku with a grin on his face as he held his phone out, “Aw, you two love birds are adorable,” he cooed.
“How long have you been there?!” Sumire gawked as the redness in her cheeks returned.
“Long enough to see you caress Seonghwa’s lips with your thumbs!” Suzaku giggled, “Didn’t think you had the guts to take the initiative first, Sumi-chan!”
“You saw that?!” She squawked.
“The whole thing, sweetie!” Suzaku snickered, “Don’t worry though, your senpai will make sure to keep it a secret from the others that you made the first move on your boyfriend-”
“Ah! Don’t say anymore!” Sumire cried as she covered her face, “Come on, Seonghwa we have a cafe to get to!” She rushed out as she tugged on the other’s arms, wanting to be as far away from here as possible now. Seonghwa chuckled as she hastily pulled on his arm to get away from the scene.
“Sure, babe, just give me a second,” he said letting her arm go as she started to walk ahead, he then turned to Suzaku with a shy smile on his face, “Um...so that picture you took...”
“Don’t worry lover boy, I’ll send you the picture right now,” Suzaku chuckled as he sent Seonghwa the picture of him and Sumire kissing. When Seonghwa glanced down at his phone, he felt his heart swell when he saw the photo. The two them in each others’ arms as they kissed, he wanted more moments like this with her. Oh god, he was so soft for her.
“Seonghwa, are you coming or what?” Hearing her voice, he bid his goodbyes to Suzaku and caught up with Sumire, heading towards the cafe to start their date with her hand in his.
Upon reaching the cafe, Sumire stared at the items on display. Her eyes practically sparkled at the cutely designed confections and bit her bottom lips.
“They all look so cute, I don’t know if I can take a bite out of them,” she whined. Seonghwa chuckled as he dragged her inside the cafe, following the waiter as he led the two to their seats. The whole time, Sumire’s eyes had a particular shine in them as she stared down at the menu.
“If you want, we can order one of each if you can’t decide,” Seonghwa suggested.
“R-really, but wouldn’t that cost a lot of money? And what if we can’t finish them?” She asked.
“It’s okay, the last few commissions I got paid me well, and if we don’t finish them we can bring them home for the others,” he said. Before she could protest, the waiter returned to take their order, which Seonghwa gave him asking for one order off their dessert menu. When the waiter left, Seonghwa turned to her and gave him a grin, interlocking his hands with hers.
“Seonghwa you really didn’t have to do that,” she said.
“I know, but you looked liked you really wanted to try them, so there’s no harm in spoiling you for a bit,” he said. Her cheeks were flushed again, making her look away nervously. This was all still new, trying to be affectionate in public but she was slowly getting comfortable.
“O-okay,” she muttered, it wasn’t long before their order arrived, making her forget her worries as she stared at them in awe. Her hands were clutching her phone as she took pictures of the ones she thought were the cutest before taking a small bite from one of the strawberry flavored desserts and let out a satisfied hum. The whole time Seonghwa smiled as she cooed over the adorable designs and colors before she gushed over the taste. His eyes noticed a stray bit of frosting on the bottom of her lips.
“Is it any good?” He asked, leaning closer to her.
“Yes, do you want to try it?” She asked, about to cut a small piece for him, before she could do that, he leaned over and kissed her lips. A squeak left her lips as she felt his tongue run along her bottom lips. When he pulled away, he licked his lips and smiled.
“Taste sweet, just like you,” he teased with a sly grin. Smooth bastard. Her eyes stared at him before she smacked his arm again earning another fit of laughter from him as he moved away.
“Are you trying to kill me! Is that what you’re planning!” She whined, covering her face from his gaze. As soon as his laughter died down, he moved closer to her again and move her hands.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he apologized again, “It’s just that you’re too cute as always, it’s unfair,” he pouted as he used his hands to smush her face together. Her nose crinkled in annoyance, making her look even cuter in his eyes. He pressed his forehead against her, noses pressed together as he jutted his bottom lips out, “You’re not mad are you?”
She paused, glancing away, “No, just a bit startled and embarrassed,” she said. He grinned as he kissed her again, the lingering taste of strawberry on her lips made him hum. He could feel her cheeks heat up in his hands as he pulled away to get a better look at her. Her face was red as she had her eyes shut tightly.
“Aw, don’t do that, I want to see your face,” he cooed. Sumire didn’t know how to react, she was teetering between hiding and screaming her lungs out, but fortunately settled on the former and brought her hands to her face again.
“My face doesn’t want to be seen,” she mumbled, struggling to find her voice, “Can we just eat in peace?” she asked in a tiny voice, peaking at him between her fingers. Seonghwa internally cooed as she stared at him shyly. Just the sight of her being so cute and shy made him want to tease her more, but the side of him that was pretty much whipped for her every command won out in the end.
“Alright,” he said as he leaned back into his seat, taking a bite of his dessert. They went back to the normal, talking about their day and giggling at the jokes and what their roommates did while holding each others’ hands as they ate. Sometimes Seonghwa would feed her a spoonful of his order in her mouth, watching as her eyes widened at the taste and smile.
Seonghwa only stared at her with a smile, “So pretty,” he hums as he leaned against his palms. By now, he’s forgotten about the rest of the confections they ordered and decided to watch the gleeful expression on Sumire’s face, admiring how she would place on hand on her cheeks and close her eyes as she took her time to relish in the flavor of the dessert in her mouth. Three little words were sitting on the tip of his tongue, ready to be blurted out but he refrained.
Sumire glanced back at him, noticing the way he stared at her, it made her heart jumped out of her chest, “W-what is it?” She asked in a small voice, nervously biting her bottom lips.
“Nothing,” he replies, “You’re just really pretty, babe,” he grins and Sumire had to look away to calm herself and her rising heartbeat. This man, he was too powerful and he knows it.
“Jeez, you’re really planning on killing me, huh?” She whined again. The audacity of this man, she thinks, because who was he to say she was pretty when he looked like that?!
The thought of someone who looked so pretty and sinfully handsome like Seonghwa thinking that she was pretty seemed surreal to her. She wanted to metaphorically throw herself out the window and cry/scream. Her heart was beating to fast at his words, this damn smooth bastard!
“I would never,” Seonghwa protested, “You mean too much to me,” he added, “Besides, I’ve waited too long for this, there’s no way I’m letting you go so soon, babe.”
Hearing the last statement surprised her, “What do you mean ‘too long’?” She asked. Seonghwa paused, realizing his little slip-up and sighed before feeling his cheeks heat up. He didn’t want to talk about something so embarrassing.
“Uh. well...” he fidgeted in his seat nervously, avoiding eye contact with her for the first time since they entered the cafe,”M-maybe next time, I’ll tell you,” he mutters, a bit embarrassed. She frowned, brows knitted together as she took in his words.
“So, never, right?” She raised a brow at him.
“No, not never!” He said, “Just not now, maybe in the future when we’re mar-” he shut his mouth immediately. She looks back at him even more curious now.
“In the future?” She asked.
“N-nothing!” he panics for a second, almost making another slip-up, one more disastrous than almost admitting he had a long-time crush on her since the first year of high school. He cleared his throat, attempting to calm himself, “Oh, it looks like you’re done eating right? We can take the rest home for the others, I’ll go let the waiter know right now!” He stood up as he pressed a kiss to her cheeks and left before she could continue to press him for answers.
Sumire only frowned, watching as he left for the main desk and sighed, “What was that about?” She wondered, taking one last bite of her cake. Her mind started to wander, thinking about the way he stopped himself from speaking. What was that about, she thought.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard the chair scrape against the tiles. She assumed that it was Seonghwa returning from paying for their date, “Oh, you’re back already? That was fast...” her voice trailed off as she glanced up.
Seonghwa huffed. He didn’t expect that there would be a short line to pay for their order, although he managed to grab a few boxes and bags for the leftovers. He glanced down at his watch, noticing the time and rushed over to Sumire, he still had more plans for this date.
”I paid for the cakes, babe. Are you ready to go-” he stopped as he glanced up from his watch to see the scene before him.
Sumire sat back in her seat, leaning far away from the table an unknown man sitting across from her. Her hands were placed stiffly in her lap as she stared at her phone, pretending to text someone with a disinterested look on her face. He immediately recognized the leech before her from their campus. A real bastard that liked to play around with girls’ feelings for the hell or it.
“Oh, fucking hell no,” he mutters as he quickly went over them, more worried about the uncomfortable state Sumire was being put into and how it was affecting her. The closer he got, the more clearly he could hear their conversation.
“Hey, I remember seeing you on campus,” he said, leaning forward as he pushed the cakes away. A small whine left her lips as she saw the cake being mushed against a perfectly untouched one. What a waste, she frowns. “What’s a nice girl doing here by yourself?” He asked.
“Enjoying some cake, what else?” She was surprised to hear how even her voice was and took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves as nails started to prick at her own skin on her fingers.
“Oh, you’re a sassy one, huh? Cute,” Somehow hearing that made her want to pour her drink on him, but she refrained. The small thought of lashing out in public only to be stared at by others with disapproving stares made her on edge, but also because she had some restraint on her actions.
“Hm,” she only let out a disinterested hum instead, eyes staring back at her phone.
“So is it just you?” He continued probing, earning an annoyed glare from her because that was the dumbest question she ever heard asked her. “If you want, I can join you if you’re feeling lonely.”
“No, thanks,” she replied, curtly, “I’m not alone actually.”
“Oh, are you here with a friend? She can tag along with us, the more the merrier,” He said. Her lips twitched, eyes glancing back up at the idiot before her before making eye contact with Seonghwa, who had been glaring at the man before him. She let out a small relieved sigh and smiled slightly at him, all the anxiety she felt just moments ago suddenly lifted a bit.
“Yeah, I am with a friend,” she started, “My boyfriend actually,” she added, a bit loudly. Seonghwa’s eyes lit up, his heart jumping in his chest upon hearing those words. For a second, a small smile was seen on his face before he saw the pleading look in her eyes to save her from this situation.
“Oh? Really? Where is he? I don’t see him,” he said, almost mocking her. And just like that, Seonghwa had a dark look in his eyes and let out a dry chuckle. Seeing that look gave her chills, it was the first time she had seen him have such an expression and she didn’t know if it was good or bad (she thinks the latter actually since she feels slightly intimidated). What happened to her cute, soft, and dork of a boyfriend?! Who was this man before her?!
“Turn around,” Seonghwa said in a low voice. Hearing him, they turned to see Seonghwa with a smile on his face, “Now you see him.” He went over to Sumire’s side and place his hands on her shoulder, giving them a light squeeze to calm her nerves.
“Was he bothering you, baby?” He asked, leaning close to her ear, sneakily pressing a kiss to her cheeks as his eyes flickered back to the man across from them.
He smirked as the other man flinched from the dark look in his eyes and glanced away nervously, he guesses that maybe his reputation back in high school did have its perks. The kiss Seonghwa gave her made her mumble incoherently as she struggled to find her words, although among the mess he heard a faint yes and that was all he needed to hear.
“Okay,” he says as he brought her hand to his lips and pressed a kiss to her knuckle, “Let’s go then,” he said softly, the familiar soft look in his eyes returned as he helped her up, “I have more plans for this date anyways,” he added with a coo as he pressed another kiss to her cheeks, attempting to distract her and it worked.
The familiar red hue on her cheeks appeared as she let out a squeak. The usual dorky grin on his lips appeared as he helped her out of her seat, and led her away from the scene, “Come on, I want to spoil you as much as I can before the day is over,” he said leaving the cafe.
Once they were away, he took a deep breath and stopped before he turned towards her, “Are you alright?” He asked. Sumire blinked, her lips pressed together in a thin line as she furrowed her brows together.
“I-I think so?” She wasn’t certain herself, “Maybe a bit uncomfortable, but then I saw you and felt slightly relieved knowing you were there,” she explained, “Although that look on you had when you glared at him was kinda scary,” she admitted. Seonghwa paused, a wave of guilt in his chest knowing that he scared her slightly, “I didn’t know you could make such a face, it was kinda jarring to see.”
“Sorry,” he said in a low voice, “I promise I won’t make that face around if it makes you uncomfortable,” he said. Sumire glanced up at him seeing the serious expression on his face.
“U-uh, no it’s fine, I wasn’t uncomfortable,” Intimidated, yes, but not uncomfortable she thinks, “I was just wondering where you learned to make such a face.” Seonghwa pursed his lips, wondering if he should tell her, his eyes glanced down at her and noticed how her eyes were staring back up at him with curiosity.
Damn her for being too cute without trying, he thinks before relenting.
“Uh, well...” Seonghwa trailed off, his hand tightening around hers, “You could say I had a bit or a...rebellious stage when I was younger...” he replied. Sumire stared at him for a few seconds, letting his words sink in.
He heard a snort and glanced back at her with wide eyes, “S-sorry, but you had a rebellious stage?” She suppressed the giggles that escaped from her lips. Despite what he said, Sumire couldn’t see it, perhaps it was because she was used to this Seonghwa before her. She didn’t know how he was when he was younger, perhaps she didn’t need to unless it involved any crimes and Seonghwa seemed too soft to be involved in such things.
“W-why does that sound so hard to believe for you?” He was embarrassed as she only let out another fit of giggles. He just admitted a great taboo of his past and here she was making fun of him for it.
“S-sorry, but you just seem like too much of a cute dork now for me to picture you having a rebellious stage! You’re too soft, sweetie,” she said.
“That's because I matured! I grew out of it!” He protested, feeling his cheeks heat up. She giggles once more.
“Alright, I guess that’s a valid excuse,” she said. Her mood was significantly better than before, “You said you have more places to take us right?” She asked, turning back to glance at him.
Seonghwa smile as he took a moment to watch as he admired the way the sunlight cascaded down on her. The light shining as she stared up at him with a smile on her soft lips. He felt his breath stolen from his lung as he unconsciously spoke the words on his mind.
“I love you.”
Her eyes stared at him, surprised to hear those words come out of his lips. It seemed like he too was surprised with himself as he quickly used one hand to cover his mouth, staring at her with wide eyes as well.
“W-what?” She asked in a small voice, feeling her face starting to heat up again. This was the first time he had said he loved her. Sure they texted each other that, but it was a whole different experience hearing it out loud in person. She felt her whole heart jumped from her chest and had to force herself to calm down.
“I-uh,” he tripped over his words unsure what to do to take them back, but he couldn’t. He didn’t want to take them back. Seonghwa knew that he was in love with her from the very beginning. Seonghwa sucked the air between his teeth and sighed. The cat was already out of the bag anyways.
“Fuck it,” he muttered as he took her face in his hands, she jumped and stared back at him, feeling smaller than usual as he leaned in close.
“Y-yes?” She replied in a tiny voice, nervous as he stared at her with such intensity in his eyes. It was making her face feel hotter than before, she was sure he could feel them in his hands.
“I love you, Sumire. You don’t have to say anything, but I wanted you to know that I love you so much and how much I’ve been holding back from saying them for so long.”
Her mind was a mess. Seonghwa just admitted he loved her and that he was holding back from saying them. Wait, for how long had he been keeping those words to himself?!
“I know that hearing this is overwhelming for you, and you probably don’t feel the same-”
“No!” She suddenly shouted, surprising him. “I-I,” her voice trailed off, feeling anxious as she realized what she was about to do. “I-I love you too...”
“You do?” The way his eyes lit up and how he gave her a warm smile was too much for her fragile heart, but she was certain that she had strong feelings for him and nodded.
“Yes, I love you, Park Seonghwa,” she said, glancing away from him as she felt that her heart will explode if she looked him in the eyes.
Seonghwa continued to stare at her before leaning closer to her, “Can I kiss you?”
Her cheeks flared up, wondering why he was asking now, “Since when do you ask to kiss me now?” She muttered. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers. Sumire was taken aback, this kiss was different from the ones they had in the past.
His lips moved against hers, his tongue grazing against her bottom lips. Feeling his tongue made her gasp as he used this moment to deepen the kiss. Her eyes shut tight and hands gripped against the front of his shirt as her face burned throughout the kiss. A low groan was heard from him as her teeth accidentally grazed his lips causing him to pull away from her and move his lips downwards.
When his lips moved down to her jaw, she sucked the air when he started to nibbling and sucking on her skin, “W-wait, wait!” She gasped, her voice going a pitch higher than before, and pulled away with a red face.
Seonghwa glanced up at her, with a frown as he was enjoying how they were slowly moving along in their relationship, but then wondered if he overstepped with the kiss. “Was it too much?” He asked.
“No,” she said, eyes glancing everywhere but him, “It’s just...” she trailed off, biting her bottom lips nervously, feeling her lips tingling from the kiss, “I-isn’t this dangerous territory?!” She asked, glancing around them.
Dangerous territory? Seonghwa suppressed to urge to laugh. It was cute that she thought this was on the more intense side of a relationship. Granted, he was certain that this was the first they had made out with each other like this.
“Don’t worry babe,” he said, pressing his lips on her nose, “I wouldn’t go that far if it makes you uncomfortable, unless...” his voice trailed off as he glanced back down at her with half-lidded eyes and a smirk, “Unless you want me to?”
She let out a startled squeak and punched him when she heard the teasing tone in his voice, “I’m going home!” She said as she turned back in the direction of her apartment, doing her best to hide her flushed face from him.
“I’m kidding, kidding!” Seonghwa chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her, “You’re too cute to tease,” he said, “And you can’t leave yet, there’s still light out and I still haven’t spoiled you as much today!”
“If you keep teasing me, you’ll have to enjoy this date on your own!”
“Okay, okay. I’m sorry, now come on, love!” He said, tugging her toward their next destination. Sumire sighed, letting him drag her off to who knows where, although she would have to admit she did like the fluttering feeling in her chest when he called her love. Not that she would ever tell him because then there would be no end to it.
He suddenly stopped, turning back to her again, “What?” She asked, raising a brow at him. He smiled and let out a low hum as he shrugged.
“Nothing, I just really happy and I love you.”
Okay, maybe her heart won’t get used to him saying that anytime soon, but she was happy regardless and she was glad that it was her cute boyfriend that made her feel like this.
