including ;; artemis, hestia and hera
a/n: let's just say that these goddesses give birth like athena, without losing their virginity but still having kids. also i know hera isn't virgin and just not fools around with mortals, but i like to put her in this chategory. and this was in my drafts for so long omg
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— HESTIA
hello my dear mom friends, how are you?? who takes care of you even though you take care of everyone?? you guys are probably the calmest people i've ever met but god when you guys are angry... it's scary... you guys are the reason why fire can also be beautiful, not just destructive. you make the best meals ever and it feels so cozy to be around you <3 you are the shoulder people usually cry on and you want a big happy family of your own. you guys don't like fights, instead you like to chill around. probably a cat or a bird person. and also passive-aggressive.
- ARTEMIS
oh my dear aroace's. stop hating and judging a book by it's cover. we know you have your own parties at home with your 5 animals. these fellas are the only ones that you could really trust, i understand you pal! now that we say trust, how is your trust issues going?? stop hating on your little sibling who's not disciplined. they're growing up. also drink water, you can't always count on coffee for your mental health. you guys are probably spending too much time on the library, and adore your girl friends. you guys are feminists and most likely to grow up with action movies. how's your obsession on natasha romanoff going? just a guess, doesn't have to be true. you guys have my heart and i would be more than glad to have you as my scary dog privilage.
- HERA
my old money slytherin babies. you guys are totally fan of gossip girl or mean girl and you grew up leading your friends into playing the thing you love. you were always the hot mom in those plays, weren't you? you guys make the best desserts. older daughter or the only child that needed to put up with your mom's troubles? yeah same. you secretly adore man validation but die rather than admitting it. because you're also a queen and don't need man. you adored your father until you get to know him better. if it isn't perfect enough, you don't want it. probably loved hot chocalate when you were little, the one's your daddy bought. but you can drink black coffee now, sure.

The Olympian gods on April Fools’ Day:
Zeus: is engaged in a prank war with Poseidon which mostly includes the typical (read: boring) toothpaste-in-your-oreo and water bucket-falls-from-door tricks that somehow both of them ALWAYS fall for year after year
Poseidon: alongside his prank war with Zeus, he has an ongoing gag with Amphitrite where they both prank Triton, who does not understand the concept of April Fools Day nor does he like it
Hestia: doesn’t prank anyone, but considers it a “fun bonding experience”
Demeter: pranked Hades once out of spite, but other than that she mostly stays out of it
Hera: pranked Zeus massively once and he got mad so now she doesn’t prank him openly but sorta fucks with him secretly yknow, like, covering-your-toothpaste-opening-with-plastic wrap-so-you-can’t-get-toothpaste kinda thing?
Athena: scoffs at the childishness of pranks but is actually in a years-long prank war with Ares that begins at dawn every April Fools Day and doesn’t end until dawn the next day. There are definitely casualties in their prank war.
Ares: LOVES the idea of it, but is comically bad at planning pranks. He’s the goes-up-to-you-with-the-toothpaste-oreo-while-laughing type of prankster.
Hephaestus: everyone comes to him for super specific tricked-out deluxe-prank type stuff and he always says no because he doesn’t wanna get thrown off the mountain again involved
Apollo: attempts to prank Artemis every year but always somehow fails and it backfires on him (ie, tries to drop a water balloon on her from above? He trips and falls to earth. The water balloon hits him.)
Artemis: stays in the woods like normal, she and her hunters lightly prank each other, usually have a s’mores fight at the end of the day. She is unaware of Apollo trying to prank her.
Dionysus: drinking. Might prank one or two people. He’s the only one who can get Hermes.
Aphrodite: she pranks Ares however she thinks will humiliate him the most— bonus points if he doesn’t know it’s her. Also loves making one person fall in love with another on this day and then have the other person prank them sO HARD. She and Eros usually get together for that though.
Hermes: pranks everyone. God-level pranks. (Oh wait… um… cosmic level pranks? Eh, you get the point. The King of All Pranking. The Prankmaster. The Guy Who Gets Away With It All.) He manages to prank all of Olympus and beyond.
*Bonus*
Hades: got pranked by Demeter once pretty badly and no one will ever let him live it down, but other wise he doesn’t do much. Hermes comes to the underworld with new souls, so Hades gets pranked by him every year, but it’s surprisingly mild compared to what Hermes does to the others.
Persephone: can’t prank Hades, obviously, since it’s spring. She and her mother prank each other occasionally, but most years they forget. A running joke between Persephone and Hades is that if they both cared more, they’d probably be able to get Hermes.

Completely Normal - One
Dr Poe: Class, please welcome your new fellow student...uh....Normal Smith...
No.1 in disguise: Yeah, that’s my name. That’s me. I’m Normal. Completely Normal. Get it? I just made a pun.
Artemis groans.
Poe: Something to say, Artemis?
Artemis: No, sir, I’m a fan of pun as much as the next man. I myself am in possession of a name that-
Poe: Yes, we’re all aware, Artemis Fowl. Normal, go sit yourself at the desk next to Artemis. He’s the dark haired chatty one. Don’t let him distract you.
Artemis: Yes, I do like to talk, Normal. I like to ask the obvious questions, such as what are you doing here and isn’t there another place of education you’d rather attend? A university buried deep under ground for example and run by farting dwarfs.
Poe: Artemis!
Normal: Ha, ha, you’re funny. But let’s say that I  did come from a university buried deep underground and run by farting dwarfs....I’d probably want to come up for air occasionally. And maybe meet the surface locals. Perhaps to get know them a little. You know, to broaden my understanding of this beautiful chaotic world. But secretly. Please.
Artemis: Fine. I still don’t understand why’d you want to choose this school.
Normal: Because you’re here and you’re one of my closest friends...Ha! Your face! I’ve disarmed you with my charm. There’s no objection you can raise -
Artemis: Sir, Normal is not clearly not human. He’s in fact a demon warlock -
Normal: Hey!
Poe: Alright, that’s enough, the both of you. I didn’t know that you knew one another. I take it from all this talk about dwarfs and warlocks that you play one of those online role playing games. D&D?
Artemis: Something like that.
Poe: Hmm, well good for you. But that reminds me, we must discuss online safety this week.
Normal: (I understand what you just did. Thank you.)
Poe: You never know what strangers you might meet online.
Artemis: Or what weirdos you might bump into in real life.

Mr. and Mrs. Flag (Rick Flag x Fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
Requested by @myownworldsstuff : Rick Flag and Reader where they are married with Mr. and Mrs. Smith vibes
@h-hxgirl @artemis-cr0ck
Author's Note: I think the title is very fitting 😁
Warnings: Mention of child loss, mentions of abortion, language
The smell of homemade spaghetti entered Rick’s nostrils as he walked through the threshold into his shared home with you, his wife. Hearing the door open, you quickly wiped your palms on your apron before rushing to greet him.
“Hey baby, how was work?” You asked as he set down a briefcase before pulling you into his embrace, placing a gentle kiss on your lips.
“Work’s work, I had clients all the way up my ass today, bitching about how their stocks are plummeting,” he replied as you hummed, giving him a smile before pulling away. You knew he wasn’t a stock marketer. You knew he worked with some of the world’s most dangerous criminals. In any case, you were there to gather any intel you managed to scrape up for the CIA. What you didn’t expect was to slowly love him along the way. The CIA had warned you not to do what you did, saying that he was just a mission, but to you he became more than that. He became your best friend. He became your lover.
“Well, dinner is ready. Your favorite,” you whispered against his ear as you tugged against his blazer.
“You know me so well.”
You two ate in silence aside from the occasional slurp of noodles and guzzle of wine.
“So, how was your day?” He asked as you twirled the stem of your wine glass between your thumb and index finger, desperately wanting to tell him about how your day really was. As far as he knew, or so you thought, you were a kindergarten teacher at the local school.
“It was alright, I had 5 kids not wanting to take a nap, and 3 of them being rowdy as always. Even though I teach kids, I still don’t want one,” you mentioned as he let out a small chuckle before silence cascaded over the room. Your eyes locked with his as he cleared his throat.
“Listen, sweetheart, I got something to tell you.”
“No, I do too,” you replied, hands fidgeting underneath the table. Normally, this wouldn’t be such a big deal, but this was Rick you were telling. Someone you actually care for. You both paused for a moment, urging the other to speak; however, that was put on hold as you saw something glisten in the moonlight out of the corner of your eye before noticing that it was quiet. Too quiet, you thought to yourself before a rain of bullets ripped through the window. Falling to the floor, you glanced over to Rick who too, looked over to you.
“I’m a secret agent.”
“I do special ops,” you both said at the same time, his news not new to you, but yours was to him.
“For how long?” He asked loudly, army crawling to a secret stash of guns as you copied his movements, reaching for your own.
“15 years,” you stated, loading some guns and grabbing a couple of knives as he cocked some guns.
“Shit. You’ve been lying to me this whole time?”
“Rick, you have been too, this is not the time and place for this conversation. There’s a secret door in the kitchen that will lead to the sewer, we can make it out of here,” you mentioned as he glared at you with mistrust in his eyes before giving in and nodding. Crawling your way to the secret door, you quickly stood up and shot your gun in the general vicinity of the advancing adversaries before you went down the stairs into the small basement with Rick following you. Turning to open the lid, you were stopped as a body was pressed against you and a gun to your temple. Staring into his hazel eyes, you noticed slight flecks of green and brown that you had come to love.
“How can I trust you?” He seethed as you didn’t try to fight back.
“Rick, if I was here to kill you, I would’ve. I’m an agent, yes, but I wasn’t assigned to kill you. Please, let’s just get to safety before we go into this,” you begged as he nodded, opening the lid to the sewer before jumping in, trying to not gag at the stench. Turning on the flashlight, you and Rick made your way through the tunnels before you found the exit you designated for something like this. Climbing up the ladder, you looked behind you to make sure he was following you, and when you saw he was, you opened the hatch and climbed out into the crisp autumn night. Climbing out after you, he looked at you, feelings confused as to what to do with you.
“You got a safe house?” He asked as you nodded, starting to walk the way of the house before he grabbed your arm and shook his head.
“It might be safer if we went to Belle Reve.”
“Show me the way.”
----------
Stepping out of the shower, you wringed out your hair with a towel as you made your way into the small room with an office attached to it.
“So this is where you sleep on the nights you can’t come home,” you quipped as he shot you a glare, cleaning the water off of his guns.
“Home,” he scoffed, clicking the barrel back into place, “what a joke.” Sighing, you took a seat next to him, flinching as he moved away from you.
“That’s what it is for me,” you tried to reason as he glared at you again, trying to remain stoic and not heartbroken that the love of his life is secretly an undercover agent.
“What am I to you?” His voice hoarse from the yelling and then the silent treatment. Placing a small hand on his shoulder, you were surprised when he didn’t move to remove it.
“My husband.”
“No, what am I to you? A target? A mission? Decoy?”
“Mission,” you muttered meekly as he ran a hand over his face before you continued, “4 years ago, the CIA debriefed me on you. West Point Grad. Special Ops officer. Leader of Task Force X. The latter being what they were concerned with. They wanted me to gather whatever I could on your team and report back to them. And for the first year, I did. I went through all of your records on your computers and then some, but what they didn’t count on was that…,” you hesitated for a moment, twirling your thumbs as he waited for you to continue, “...what I didn’t count on was that I would fall in love with you. Yes, you were my mission, but what I feel for you is real. Hell, those assholes who were shooting at us were probably after me,” you finished as you took a breath, feeling his calculating eyes scope you out, trying to tell if what you were saying was real or not.
“Why would they be shooting at you,” came out his gruff question as you turned your head to focus on him.
“Probably found out the information I supplied was falsified. The first year of information was all correct, but once I realized that I did, in fact, love you and was not clouded by hormones, I stopped providing correct information.”
“Why would you be clouded by hormones?”
“I was pregnant,” you whispered, moving to clutch your stomach where the baby died inside of you.
“What?” Rick asked, scooting closer to you, not sure if he heard you correctly.
“I was pregnant with your kid. The CIA found out and terminated the pregnancy,” admitting the horrors of what the agency did to you brought up memories of the procedure. Your eyes filled with tears as you remembered the intense pain that accompanied the loss of your child.
“Shit, baby,” Rick whispered, finally letting his guard down and believing you as he watched the way your eyes glossed over. I know that look all too well, he thought before pulling you into his arms and running his hand through your hair as you broke down. Tears poured down your face as he gently shushed you, slightly rocking his body with yours.
“I’m sorry, Rick. I really am. I really do love you, you have to believe me,” you begged through sobs as he paused for a second, realizing that he didn’t care about your past and your initial mission and that all he cared about in that moment was his wife in his arms.
“It’s alright baby, I understand. We’ll make this work,” he whispered against the top of your head, rubbing circles into your back. After a while, he had moved you and him up against the bed so that you were lying against his chest as his arms wrapped themselves around you.
“Rick,” you called out from his chest. Moving to look down at you, he brushed a strand of wet hair from your face.
“Yeah baby?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too,” kissing the top of your head, he rubbed your back again as he listened to your breathing become quiet and unnoticeable. Noting that you had fallen asleep, he took the opportunity to shut his eyes and let his mind carry him into a dull slumber.

Young justice Season 1 DickBabs headcannon
14-year-old Dick Grayson clutched his lunch bag as he walked toward his usual lunch spot. A picnic table he and his best friend had sat at ever since they’d first became friends.
It sat right under a large oak, which he’d normally climb after he’d finished his lunch. She’d always either join him in his little climbing exercise or sit and look up at him while he did what he did best....entertained
A smile played on his lips. She was already sitting at the table with her school lunch tray. Alfred would never allow him to do such a thing as to eat the “processed” school food. Insistent that a growing boy such as himself who was also secretly Gotham’s Boy Wonder needed a proper diet. This is why Alfred packed his lunch daily.
“Hey Bab” Dick grinned
The girl looked up at him, sending daggers
Dick rolled his eyes “Are you seriously still jealous about that picture with the new girl this morning?”
She didn’t respond
Dick stood awkwardly “So I’ll take that as a yes?”
That did it, the red-headed girl's head snapped toward him, Dick couldn’t help but notice the way her long hair swished when she moved her head
“I’m not jealous.” She rebutted
Dick rose an eyebrow “Ya sure? Cause your tone says otherwise.”
Back to no response
The teenage boy sighed “Okay I won’t push you for answers. Am I allowed to sit with you still?” He went to move to the bench across from her.
Barbara shrugged “You can, I’m just surprised you’re not sitting with your new friend. Tell me how do you know her?”
Dick sat down “She doesn’t have our lunch period so....”
Barbara sent him daggers
Dick just grinned “But even if she did I’d still sit with you cause you’re my best friend and she...is just a girl I know three Bruce. He works with her uncle sometimes.”
Slowly Barbara nodded “Okay. But why was she acting like she didn’t know who you were?”
Dick shrugged “I figured she’d remember me from the Gala she was at last year cause we talked for a while but apparently not” he lied
Slowly Barbara nodded “You like her? Was the picture an attempt at flirting?” She gave a half-smile. To try and show she was teasing
Dick was expertly trained in body language and could tell the smile was fake. But he wasn’t gonna mention it. Instead, he grimaced. Him flirt with Artemis? Who did Barbara think he was Wally?.... Of course, she didn’t cause she didn’t know about that half of his life
The teenager shook his head “No Babs you got it all wrong I just.....why is this so stuck on your mind. Why do you care whether or not I was flirting with her?” The thought occurred to him as he spoke
Barbara paused, swallowing a lump in her throat “I-I don’t know I just. “ the teenage girl really didn’t know. Over the past couple of months, Dick had changed. He’d become busy with unexplained things after school or leaving their study seasons early. Canceling plans to hang out or not being available when she asked to do things. It’s not that she was angry with him. She understood he had a life aside from their friendship. It was just in the same sense she missed him. Then when he was late meeting her in the morning at their usual spot and she went to go find him, she spotted him taking a photo with the new girl. Upon seeing that a burning forming in her stomach. One she’s never felt before. She even heard a little voice inside her head whisper “Who is that girl taking photos with MY Dick Grayson?”
Obviously, she quickly shook away that voice. Dick was not hers. Sure he was her best friend but he wasn’t her guy.
“Babs.” Dick’s voice spoke cutting her out of her train of thought
She looked up to see Dick holding out a chocolate chip cookie “Alfred packed you one.” He assured
She happily took the cookie, taking a bite
“Now your answer?” He pushed on
She sighed “I guess I just miss you is all. I understand you’re busy and don’t expect you to arrange whatever it is you do all the time now to hang out with me but can you just let me miss you without teasing me?” Her shoulders sank
A sad cast played on Dick’s face, out of everyone in his life he wished Barbara knew about his other half the most
“Tell ya what, why don’t we climb to the top of the tree. Hope the fence and spend the rest of the day together walking the streets of Gotham?” He suggested
Barbara rose an eyebrow “You suggesting the commissioner's daughters and Bruce Wayne’s ward break out of their stupidly expensive private school to play hooky and wander the streets?”
Dick gave an affirmative nod
Barbara smiled pulling her laptop out of her bag. She opened it and began typing “I can probably hack into the school teacher portal easily and Mark us as in attendance for our last classes of the day.
Dick watched as she typed away for a few minutes “And done!” She smiled triumphantly closing the computer and slipping it back into her bag.
“Great let’s go!” Dick grinned standing and jumping up to the first limb. With a bright smile, Barbara followed after him.

All-New Halloween Spooktacular
Wanda x reader x Vision
"Halloween's a magical holiday," Billy told someone unseen as he walked into the kitchen dressed in a cape. "All about family, friends, and the thrill of getting to be someone else for the day."
"Wrong! Halloween's all about candy!" Tommy informed his brother.
"You're both wrong." Luna piped up from where she sat, eating toast. "It's about scaring people."
"That too." Tommy agreed. "But mostly about candy." He added.
"Where's your costume, Tommy?" Billy questioned, pouring himself a bowl of cereal.
"This is my costume. I'm the cool twin." Tommy told him in a matter-of-fact voice.
"Lame." Luna shook her head.
"What does that make me?" Billy asked, tilting his head to the side.
"A dorkasurus rex," Tommy said, smirking as he remembered the time Billy caused himself to fall playing Dance Dance Revolution.
"Not a real dinosaur." Billy rolled his eyes. "What's your costume, Luna?" He asked, glancing over his sister's grey jacket and pink dress.
"I'm a spy," Luna said, pulling on a pair of sunglasses. "Duh." She added, picking up her plate as the three kids moved into the living room.
Quickly the three ten-year-olds noticed their usual seats on the couch were occupied by their uncle, who was fast asleep and snoring loudly.
"Man, he even snores cool." Tommy quietly exclaimed, Pietro on the couch. "I'm gonna wake him up."
"Don't!" Billy snapped, grabbing Tommy's arm.
"You scared?"
"Why would he be scared, Tommy? He's our uncle." Luna asked, tilting her head.
"'Cause it's four o'clock in the afternoon, and Billy's secretly afraid he's a vampire." Tommy teased.
"No, I'm not!" Billy denied.
"Yes, you are!" Tommy smirked.
"Both of you, be quiet!" Luna hissed.
What none of the kids had noticed was that while they were arguing, Pietro had woken up. Pietro watched the three for a second before he flashed in front of his nephews and niece.
"Blood is thicker than water! I show you!" Pietro roared, causing the kids to scream.
Pietro began to chase the still screaming children around the living room before a loud voice interrupted them.
"Oh! Somebody better be bleeding, broken, or on fire." Wanda said as she rushed down the stairs, all dressed for Halloween.
"Whoa, Mama. Are you old Red Riding Hood?" Billy wondered, causing Wanda to frown.
"I'm a Sokovian fortune teller." His mother told him.
"Wow, that is so,"
"Rad!" Tommy exclaimed.
"Lame," Pietro said, causing Tommy to frown.
"Lame." Tommy agreed.
"Well, think it's cool, Mama," Luna said, smiling at the woman.
"Why, thank you, favorite child," Wanda said with a teasing grin to her other children.
"That costume is worse than the ones mom made us the year we got typhus." Pietro grimaced, staring his sister up and down.
"That's not exactly how I remember it." Wanda frowned, recalling a faint memory of herself, her brother, and an old woman with a fish.
"You probably suppressed a lot of the trauma." Pietro guessed.
"Mom has been weird since uncle Pietro got here," Billy announced, once more talking to someone unseen. "I think it's because she hasn't seen him in a long time, and he's what you call 'a man child.'"
"Want to talk about trauma? Someone drank my coffee this morning." Y/N said as she descended the stairs. "I'm looking at you, Pietro."
"What are you dressed as, Mom?" Tommy asked, looking at his mother.
"I'm Artemis," Y/N told him, pulling a fake bow off her caped back. "She's the Greek Goddess of the Hunt."
"Whoa! Sweet costume, bro-ham-in-law!" Pietro cackled as Vision appeared behind Y/N. "Let me guess, traffic light!" He said, causing Vision to sigh. "Half shucked corn! A booger!"
"Yes." Vision sighed, rolling his eyes.
"Yes!" Pietro exclaimed with a grin before making his way over to the couch.
"Well, thank you two for humoring me," Wanda said, giving her partners an apologetic smile.
"I love Halloween. No-one had to ask me to dress up twice." Y/N shrugged, throwing her bow back onto her back.
"At least you got to choose your costume. I simply had no other clothes in my closet." Vision said before grinning at his wives. "You are incorrigible, darling. I know you have a secret thing for Mexican wrestlers." He told Wanda.
"Mi gusta mucho."
"Ellos son bastante buenos."
"Chili con carne." Vision said, causing his wives to laugh. "What do you say, kiddos? Who's ready for that first hit of high fructose corn syrup?" Vision asked, turning to the kids who were playing a video game with Pietro.
"Yes! Headlock!"
"Get out of here! Get out of here!"
"You never really told us anything about your brother," Y/N said, watching the three with a smile. "He's not what I expected."
"Yes. I had no idea that he'd be so,"
"Go!"
"Great with kids." Vision summarised, throwing his thumb up.
"Yeah, he's just full of surprises." Wanda shook her head.
"Well, I hope the two of you have fun tonight, darlings." Vision said, moving towards the door.
"What? What do you mean? You're all dressed and ready to go." Wanda asked, staring at Vision with wide eyes.
"I'm undercover," Vision told her. "Halloween is a bacchanal for adolescent trouble-makers, and the neighborhood watch is the only thing that stands between the trees and toilet paper." He explained.
"Ah yes, the age-old enemy. Children with toilet paper." Y/N teased her husband with a smirk.
"No. That's not what you're supposed to,"
"What?" Vision cut her off, causing Wanda to cross her arms and sigh.
"Well, you didn't tell me you had plans."
"Vis told me last night, Wand," Y/N announced, causing Wanda to narrow her eyes.
"And you're okay with this?"
"Mama, Mom, and Dad have been, well, not fighting, just different," Billy announced to the unseen person.
"Okay with it? Vis is going out with the neighborhood watch. What's there to be okay about?" Y/N wondered.
"It's the kid's first Halloween. We all have to be there with them." Wanda demanded.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. What's the big dealio?" Pietro whispered as he came to stand with the three. "The big guy has conflict. The kids need a father figure for the night. Don't sweat it, guys. I got the old XY chromosome. Uncle P to the rescue! Huh?" He suggested.
"There you go. Problem solved." Vision agreed, lightly punching Pietro in the shoulder. "You have a spooky time tonight, kids."
"Goodnight, Dad!"
"Bye, Dad!"
"Love you, Dad!"
"Sweethearts, be good." He said (mostly to Wanda) as he kissed both women's cheeks. "I smell crime."
"Oh, hang on, I need to put the pumpkin out," Y/N said before Vision left the house.
She grabbed the jack-o-lantern from beside the door and followed Vision outside, shutting the door behind her.
"You understand your part of the plan?" Vision whispered.
"I'll keep Wanda distracted and keep my eyes open," Y/N whispered to her husband. "Be careful?" She asked.
"Always, darling," Vision promised, quickly pulling Y/N into an embrace before taking his leave.
"Where do you keep your water balloons?" Y/N heard as she re-entered the house.
"What? We don't have water balloons." Wanda said as Y/N locked the front door.
"Not anymore. Wanda won't let me keep them in the house." Y/N teased, coming to stand beside her wife.
"Then where are we gonna put all this shaving cream?" Pietro asked, holding up two cans. Cans Y/N had no idea as to where they'd come from. "It was Luna's idea!" Pietro defended himself.
"I'm Tommy," Tommy said, holding a shopping bag in his hands.
"And don't you forget it!"
"You two don't even have costumes," Wanda said, looking between her brother and son.
Pietro let out a scoff as he held a hand out towards Tommy. When the boy took it, Pietro sped the two out of the house, and when they reappeared, they were in matching costumes.
"Okay, but just remember that this is a respectable family." Wanda sighed. "If I see any funny business, I am going to magic you into a pickled herring." She said, causing Pietro to cringe.
"C'mon Billy, Luna, let's get your pillowcases," Y/N said, causing the kids to jump to their feet. "It's T-minus ten to our Halloween spooktacular!" She grinned.
Back at SWORD headquarters, agents were in a flurry after Wanda's appearance.
"I wanna see a full work-up inside the hour," Hayward demanded of the agents examining the missile that was still glowing with Wanda's power.
"Yes, sir."
"Hayward. Hayward! You cut us off at the knees sending in that missile." Monica snapped, rushing after the director.
"Now we know who we're dealing with." He shrugged.
"There he is! The man who almost got murdered by his own team." Clint clapped, causing Hayward to snap around.
"Why are you still here?" He demanded.
"Because that's my family in there," Clint told the man.
"And he's with us," Darcy said, standing beside Clint with Monica on her other side.
"I see, so if he's the struggling father, which of you is the sassy best friend?"
"There is no time for you to diminish your colleagues when you're about to start a war you can't win." Jimmy admonished, standing on Clint's other side.
"Maximoff was never going to negotiate with us." Hayward waved him off. "We take her out, and this whole nightmare ends."
"We don't know that," Monica told him.
"And we're never going to now." Clint scoffed.
"We have no idea what will happen in there or out here if Wanda dies." Monica reasoned.
"So what? We just surrender to that?" Hayward exclaimed, glaring at the red energy field behind him. "Not happening."
"We can't outgun her, and clearly antagonizing her is only making things worse. If Wanda is the problem, then she has to be our solution!"
"Captain Rambeau, Agent Barton, the two of you have become an impediment to this mission," Hayward told the two, causing Monica to sigh heavily.
"Technically, I was never assigned to anything." Clint shrugged.
"Constantly advocating on behalf of super-power-based individuals. Yes, I know your history with Carol Danvers. You know, you people who left still have the luxury of optimism. You have no idea what it was like what it took to keep the lights." Hayward shook his head.
"Monica might not have been around, but I was," Clint spoke up. "I remember what it took, and I can never forget. Wanda dusted. Y/N dusted. The two came back to a world where nothing was the same, and Vision was dead. Vision who had to die by Wanda's own hand."
"That's not an excuse for what Maximoff's doing. And the snap wasn't an excuse for what you did during those five years either." The director said, causing Clint to flinch.
"Don't use the last five years to be a coward, Tyler." Monica snapped, causing Hayward to direct his attention back to her.
"Maybe it's a good thing you weren't here when your mother died. Because clearly, you don't have the stomach for this job." Hayward said, causing the air to knock right out of Monica's lungs. "Get her off my base. Get them all out." He demanded the agents, who immediately surrounded the four.
"Yes, sir. All right, come on. Let's go." One of the agents said, pulling Monica out of the room, the other three not far behind.
"Hayward is way overstepping his provisional authority," Jimmy complained.
"He was looking for a reason to sideline us," Clint commented from his side.
"He's up to something." Monica agreed as they came to a stop at a van.
"Let's go, everybody in." An agent demanded.
With a second's hesitation, Jimmy punched the agent holding him. Monica and Clint quickly followed Jimmy's lead and attacked the guards holding them. Slamming the men into the truck and the ground, the three made quick work of the agents while Darcy watched in shock.
"Why didn't anyone tell me the plan?" Darcy demanded once all the agents were dispatched.
"You okay?" Jimmy asked Clint and Monica.
"Always am," Clint grunted, rolling his shoulder.
"Yeah, let's move." Monica sighed. Quickly the four found themselves SWORD ponchos and dragged the agents into a storage shed, far out of the way.
"This is it. Game time." Tommy told the same unseen person Billy had spoken to.
"It's not a competition, Tommy." Billy sighed.
"Everything can be a competition, Billy," Luna said with a grin.
"Luna's right. It's even better when you're the winner." Tommy said before running off.
"Tommy!" Billy groaned before running after his older brother, with Luna in tow.
"Unleash hell, demon spawn!" Pietro cheered.
"Someone's got to follow after them," Y/N said, pressing a kiss to her wife's cheek. "God knows how many bones they'd break without someone watching." She added, following after the kids.
When Wanda and Pietro were alone, Wanda gave her brother a smile before taking a step towards him.
"Do you remember when we were at the orphanage after Mom and Dad died? What was the name of the kid who was always trying to steal your boots?" Wanda asked him. "You know, he was the one with the. He had the, he had the skin thing."
"You're testing me," Pietro said, pointing at his younger sister.
"No, I'm not." She immediately denied it.
"Hey, it's cool. I know I look different." Pietro said, gesturing to his hair.
"Why do you look different?" Wanda wondered.
"You tell me." Pietro shrugged. "I mean, if I found Shangri-La, I wouldn't wanna be reminded of the past either." He said, causing Wanda to freeze.
"Next house, Mama!" Tommy said as he and his siblings rushed over to the Maximoff siblings with Y/N right behind.
"Junior entrepreneur, over here!" Pietro grinned. "How about you let Uncle P help you maximize your candy acquisition, huh?"
"That'd be so cool!" Luna grinned.
"Yeah! Kick-ass!" Tommy agreed.
"I feel the need," Pietro stated, holding his hand out to Tommy.
"For speed!" Tommy cheered, taking Pietro and Billy's hand. Billy grabbed onto Luna's hand, and with that, the four were off.
Speeding around the neighborhood for candy.
"Kick-ass," Wanda murmured as Y/N chuckled.
"I certainly didn't teach them that word," Y/N said as they began to walk down the street.
"Sweetheart, you swear more than anyone else I've ever met," Wanda told the woman.
"Lies and blasphemy!" Y/N gasped, causing Wanda to giggle.
"Oh! Hey, Herb!" Wanda said upon spotted their neighbor dressed as Frankenstein.
"Hey, guys!" Herb smiled as the two approached.
"How's patrol going?" Wanda asked politely.
"Any trees meet the dreaded toilet paper yet?" Y/N smirked.
"No, not yet." Herb chuckled. "It's been quiet so far." He said before his com began to chatter. "Hold up, will you? Say again?" He asked his com. "All the candy has disappeared?" He asked, causing the two women to freeze.
Behind the man, Wanda and Y/N could vaguely make out the blue blur of Pietro speeding the kids around and causing hijinks.
"And now all the jack-o-lanterns have been smashed?" Herb asked as the kids let out a loud cheer. "And now everyone's covered in silly string?"
"Whoo!" Pietro cheered loudly.
"Sorry, girls, but I gotta bounce." Herb apologized.
"Well, maybe Vision can help you out," Wanda suggested.
"Vision? He's not on duty."
"Oh, isn't he?" Y/N asked, playing along with Wanda's confusion.
"We just thought,"
"Is there something I can do for you, Wanda?" Herb asked, sensing Wanda's confusion. "Do you want something changed?" He questioned, causing Y/N to frown.
"No, it's fine." Wanda shook her head, grabbing Y/N's hand and squeezing it comfortingly. "Never mind."
"All right. Peace." Herb smiled before walking away.
"That was good, sweetheart." Y/N complimented her wife.
"I'm always good." Wanda shrugged, giving Y/N a smile.
Vision was on the other side of town while his family trick-or-treated.
The further away Vision got away from his home and family, the stranger Vision noticed the town's people were.
He had noticed people robotically repeating their actions with blank expressions.
Vision stared at a woman and her husband for several seconds before he had to tear his gaze away when the woman shed a single tear.
Meanwhile, the group of six had made their way to the town's center, where the committee had set up a festival of sorts.
"This is so lame. I can't believe you're making the kids return all the candy." Pietro groaned as Y/N led the kids away.
"I can't believe what a bad influence you are," Wanda said, turning to Pietro with crossed arms.
"Who beefed in your borscht?" Pietro asked, causing Wanda to tilt her head. "I'm just doing my part, okay? Come to town unexpectedly, create tension with the in-laws, stir up trouble with the rugrats and ultimately give you grief. I mean, that's what you wanted, isn't it?" He asked her.
"What happened to your accent?" Wanda questioned, pointing a gloved finger at her brother.
"What happened to yours?" He fired back. "Details are fuzzy, man. I got shot like a chump on the street for no reason at all, and the next thing I know, I heard you calling me. I knew you needed me." Pietro admitted as Y/N came back over.
"Alright, candy is returned, the kids are still being sourballs about it, but it's done." She clapped, standing beside her wife.
"Thank goodness for that." Wanda smiled.
"Uncle P, guess what?" Tommy exclaimed as he and his siblings ran over.
"They've got full-size candy bars a few blocks up! Mama, Mom, can we go?" Billy begged before his brother rushed away.
Tommy rushed away in a blur of blue.
"Next stop, Cavity Town!" Tommy cheered, reappearing with three candy bars in hand.
Everyone turned to stare at Tommy in surprise before Pietro let out a cheer.
"Right on, little dude! Chip off the old Maximoff block! You've got super speed!"
"I do?"
"Yeah!" Pietro grinned, holding a hand out to his nephew, who eagerly jumped to high-five him.
"It's okay, baby. You can take it slow, and you can," Wanda started to tell the boy but was cut off when he sped away.
"That's my boy." Y/N grinned as Tommy cheered loudly.
Wanda allowed Tommy to speed around the five for a few minutes before she threw her hand out and pulled the boy to a stop.
"If you're going to break the sound barrier, please take your siblings with you," Wanda begged.
"Really?" Billy asked excitedly.
"Really?" Tommy asked sadly.
"Really, yeah. And please just remember to-"
"Don't go past Ellis Avenue." The twins chorused in unison.
"And?" Y/N wondered.
"Always stick together." They added.
"We know. We know." Tommy said as Billy took his hand.
"Luna, are you coming?" Billy asked his sister, who shook her head.
"I think I want to look at the stalls," Luna told him, glancing behind her at the stalls that were lined up.
"Oh, good idea. I'll come with you." Y/N said, taking her daughter's hand.
"Hey! be careful!" Wanda called as her family all went their separate ways.
Leaving her with Pietro.
Outside the Hex, Monica, Clint, Jimmy, and Darcy were sneaking their way to an empty tent.
"I'm just trying to do my part, okay? Come to town unexpectedly, create tension with the in-laws,"
"Who is that?" Monica asked, staring at the man on the screen.
"Wanda's brother came to town," Jimmy told the woman.
"That's not the punk I remember," Clint said, staring at the screen in confusion.
"Yeah, he's got a new face." Darcy scoffed.
"Over here." Jimmy quietly called. Monica and Darcy quickly rushed over to Jimmy while Clint continued to stare at the screen.
"What happened to your accent?"
"What happened to yours?"
"We shouldn't stick around here much longer." Clint coughed, pulling his eyes away once his daughter appeared on the screen.
"Give me two seconds. I just need to hack into the secure network on the base." Darcy told everyone as she typed away frantically at the computer. "Donezo! Now, should be able to access the data on Hayward's devices." She said, connecting the USB to her laptop. "Oh, that's interesting. Guys, Hayward figured out a way to look into the boundary."
"And he didn't share with the group." Monica scoffed.
"Is this Wanda, right here?" Jimmy asked, pointing to a glowing dot on Darcy's screen.
"No, the program is tracking the decay signature of vibranium," Darcy told him.
"Vision."
"Why is Hayward tracking Vision?" Clint asked.
"I don't know. This is all I can access so far." Darcy told him.
"These other dots, those are Westview residents?" Jimmy wondered.
"The ones in Vision's immediate vicinity, yeah." Darcy nodded.
"So Hayward must have an accurate headcount by now." Jimmy summarised.
"Hayward's got to have some sense of their well-being. Where would that be?" Clint asked, playing around with the screen.
"Not sure."
"These people near the edge of town, they're bearly moving. Are they even alive?" Jimmy asked, looking over the dulled blue dots.
But Darcy didn't have an answer for that. In fact, she didn't have time to give him one before the laptop dinged, and the map began to move.
This was stranger than strange. Vision noted as he got closer towards the edge of town.
It seemed the closer he got to the edge of town, the less Wanda cared about the people.
The people were not moving about robotically anymore. They were simply still.
There was a blanket of silence covering the street as Vision walked past the countless people on the street.
No-one made even the faintest of sounds, not even when he spoke to them.
"Excuse me, ma'am? Are those your children? Are you waiting for something?" Vision asked, but when no-one responded, he forced himself to move on.
Vision made his way to the end of the street before he decided walking was fruitless.
He dropped his disguise before he took to the skies.
He could hear the sounds of children laughing, people wishing each happy Halloween's and other pleasantries before noticed a car stopped at a stop sign.
Vision flew towards the car and lightly landed before the stopped vehicle.
There, in the driver's seat, Vision found Agnes to be behind the wheel.
"Agnes?" He asked aloud. "What are you doing here?"
"Town Square Scare," Agnes said blankly. "Where is it?"
"Oh, well, the Town Square, I expect." Vision joked, causing Agnes to laugh emotionlessly.
"Took a wrong turn," Agnes admitted, still staring out the front window. "Got lost." She shrugged as her eyes welled with tears.
"In the town, you grew up in?" Vision wondered, staring at his neighbor in confusion.
Agnes didn't respond, causing Vision's worry to grow so that he reached a hand out to her temple.
When Vision broke the wall in her mind, Agnes jolted violently and let out a loud gasp.
"It's all right." Vision soothed.
"You!" Agnes gasped, staring at her neighbor in shock. "You're one of the Avengers. You're Vision. Are you here to help us?" She asked with wide eyes.
"I am Vision, and I do want to help." Vision nodded, gently placing his hand on hers. "But what's an Avenger?" He wondered, causing Agnes to gasp.
"What? Why don't you know?" She demanded, snatching her hand away. "Am I dead?" Agnes asked, pressing her hands to her chest.
"No. No." Vision promised. "Why would you think that?"
"Because you are."
"'Cause I'm what?"
"Dead," Agnes said, causing Vision to freeze. "Dead. Dead! Dead!" She yelled.
"Agnes, it is my intention to reach those outside of Westview and make sense of our situation." Vision explained, gesturing towards the town's end.
"How? No-one leaves." Agnes shook her head. "Wanda won't even let us think about it." She laughed. "All is lost," Agnes added as her laughter began to grow wilder.
"Agnes. Agnes, please calm down." Vision asked but was drowned out by the woman's loud cackling. "Agnes! Please."
Vision knew Agnes was too far gone to hear this conversation, so with a sigh, he pressed his hand to her temple once more.
Agnes snapped upright in her seat as her laughter died in her throat.
"I will fix this, Agnes. I promise."
"Okey-dokey, neighbor." Agnes chirped, smiling widely, as she did a U-turn. "Happy Halloweenie!" She cheered, driving away.
Leaving Vision to stare into the distance, just past Ellis Avenue.
"That's it. My way back into the Hex will be here in an hour. Just got to meet my guy over the ridge. Let's roll." Monica told the group.
"You can't do that," Darcy spoke up.
"Sure we can." Jimmy shrugged. "I'm a wiz at hot-wiring cars."
"No. You can't go back into the Hex." Darcy told Monica.
"Worst case scenario, Wanda removes my free will and puts me in ultra-low-rise jeans." Monica shrugged.
"Hayward has your blood work," Darcy announced. "You've gone through the boundary twice already, Monica. The energy inside has re-written your cells on a molecular level twice. It's changing you."
"Seen enough lab results to last me a lifetime." Monica shrugged. "I've seen cells metastasizing, cells in remission. I know what Wanda's feeling, and I won't stop until I help her."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"Okay."
"But I'm staying here," Darcy told the group.
"You can't stay here. It's not safe." Jimmy told her.
"Why would you want to stay here?" Clint asked.
"Darcy, what are you talkin' about?"
"I haven't made it through Hayward's last firewall. There's something big here, something that can help us. I know it." Darcy said.
"I'll stay," Clint announced. "Just in case you need me."
"Fine." Monica sighed. "I'll drop you the location. You meet us out there as soon as you can." She told the two before she and Jimmy left the tent.
Jimmy and Monica found an abandoned truck which they quickly stole before driving away from the SWORD base.
Leaving Darcy and Clint alone.
"Seems the whole town's out tonight, huh, Luna?" Y/N wondered as she and her daughter strolled through the Town Square.
"There's a lot of people." Luna nodded, staring at the townsfolk curiously.
"Everything okay, sweetheart?" Y/N asked, kneeling in front of the blonde girl. "Are you not feeling well?" She pushed, pressing her hand to Luna's forehead.
"No, I feel fine, Mom," Luna promised, pulling her mother's hand away.
"What's wrong then? You've been acting off all night." Y/N commented, rising to a stand and pulling Luna over to a hay bale to sit.
"I can see things, Mom," Luna admitted, playing with her thumbs.
"Things like what, sweetheart?"
"Emotions, I think," Luna told Y/N. "There are these colors all around everyone. I can see 'em change, Mom."
"That's okay, sweetheart. We can help you find out more about your powers."
"But, Mom, there's something wrong with everyone's colors," Luna said.
"What's wrong with their colors?
"They're all blue, all sad," Luna said, staring at the people who passed her. "And when they pass Mama, they're scared."
"I know, sweetheart." Y/N sighed, pulling her daughter into her side. "But me and your Dad are trying to fix this. We're gonna fix this." She promised the girl.
"Holy shmacaroni," Pietro commented, looking around the Town Square as Wanda laughed. "Wow!"
"Isn't it great?" Wanda asked with a grin.
"Damn it, if Westview, New Jersey isn't charming as hell." Pietro complimented, watching the people mill about.
"Now, I know that you think that I've gone full soccer mom,"
"You have." Pietro cut in.
"But it really is nice, right?" Wanda asked as the two sat down.
"Yeah." Pietro nodded before letting out a sigh. "I think Mom and Dad would have loved it."
"Yeah. I think Mom and Dad would have."
"Where were you hiding these kids up till now?" Pietro asked after a gaggle of children ran past them.
"What?" Wanda asked, snapping her head to face him.
"I assume they were sleeping peacefully in their beds." Pietro theorized. "No need to traumatize beyond the occasional holiday episode cameo, right?" He joked.
"No."
"You were always the empathetic twin," Pietro told her.
"I don't. I didn't."
"Don't get me wrong, you've handled the ethical considerations of this scenario as best you could." Pietro complimented. "Families and couples stay together, most personalities aren't far off from what's underneath, people got better jobs, better haircuts, for sure."
"You don't think it's wrong?" Wanda stuttered.
"What, are you kidding? I'm impressed." Pietro told her. "Seriously. It's a big leap from giving people nightmares and shooting red wiggly-woos out of your hands. How'd you even do all this?" Pietro asked, causing Wanda to fall into silence. "Hey, I'm not some stranger, and I'm not your husband or your wife. You can talk to me."
"I don't know how I did it," Wanda admitted with a sigh, looking down. "I, I only remember feeling scared. Empty." She sniffed. When Wanda finally looked up, she let out a gasp when she saw Pietro grey and full of holes.
Wanda squeezed her eyes shut tightly, and when she opened them, she out out a sigh. For Pietro was no longer grey and was hole-free.
"Are you okay?" Pietro wondered, staring at his sister in worry.
"I'm fine." Wanda smiled, waving him off.
"Sure you are."
"Hayward, you sneaky bastard," Darcy said as she continued to snoop through the director's files.
"You got that right." Clint scoffed, watching over the doctor's shoulder.
Darcy pulled up a new screen that showed Vision's blinking dot moving closer to the border.
"What's he doing?" Clint asked, staring at Vision's dot in confusion.
"I don't know, but we're going to find out," Darcy said, jumping up from her chair.
On the other side of the Hex, Vision had reached the edge of the town.
The closer he got to the town's border, the larger the foreboding feeling in his stomach grew.
But the closer he got, the clearer the energy field became.
Blocked from the outside world. Vision mused as he stood a nose length's away.
Vision pressed his hand onto the field, and it was immediately sucked into the energy.
Vision pushed his way through the energy field to see swarms of people, cars, and helicopters surrounding him.
But Vision could not spare them another thought as the more he tried to pull his body out of the energy field, the more pain he found himself to be in.
"He really does want out, doesn't he?" A man asked as Vision let out a loud yell.
SWORD watched as, before their eyes, Vision began to disintegrate.
"Oh no." Darcy gasped and began to rush forward with Clint right behind her. "Why aren't you helping him?" Darcy screamed, causing all the agents to turn and face the two. "He's coming apart!" She yelled when an agent grabbed her and pushed her away.
"Get your hands off her!" Clint exclaimed when he, too, was restrained.
Billy was alone when his head began to pound.
Billy was alone when he began to have images of his father in pain.
Billy was alone when he began to hear what was happening at the town's edge.
Billy could sense his brother speeding closer, and he held a hand out to stop him.
"Whoa, Billy!" Tommy cheered.
"Shh!" Billy hissed.
"Are you okay?" Tommy asked, watching his brother in concern.
Billy ignored his brother as the screaming in his head grew louder.
"Mama!"
Billy and Tommy rushed into the Town Square to find both mothers, their sister, and their uncle sitting on hay bales.
"Mama! Mom! Mama!"
"What? What is it, Billy?" Wanda asked as she jumped to her feet.
"I hear Dad in my head. He's in trouble." Billy panted.
"What? Where is he?" Y/N asked, rushing to her wife's side.
"Let me go!" Darcy snapped as she was handcuffed to a car. "What are you doing?" She yelled when she saw Clint be smacked across the face with the butt of a gun.
"Help!" Vision yelled, not caring that he was falling apart. "The people need help!" He exclaimed before he fell to the ground.
"I don't understand. What's happening to me?" Billy demanded.
"Where is he? Where's your Dad?" Wanda asked, staring at Billy with urgent eyes.
"Hey, don't sweat it, sis. It's not like your dead husband can die twice." Pietro joked.
"Excuse me?" Y/N asked, staring at Pietro with wide eyes. Before she could further question her brother-in-law, Wanda shot him with a blast of magic and sent him flying through the air. "Wanda!" Y/N exclaimed as the kids stared at their mother in shock.
"Billy, I need you to focus," Wanda demanded, ignoring her wife. Billy nodded at his mother and closed his eyes tightly.
"I can't tell. I see these soldiers." Billy said as the images flooded his mind. "They think he's dying!"
"Wanda, don't," Y/N said as Wanda's hands glowed red. But she couldn't say another word as time froze.
The last thing she saw was Wanda's eyes glowing red.
"Jimmy, do you see that? It's magic." Monica said as she and Jimmy drove away from Westview.
"It's moving!" Jimmy gasped. "Go, Monica! Go!" He exclaimed, causing the woman to press harder on the pedal.
"Go, go, go!" Hayward demanded, running away from the Hex. "Move, move, move!"
The agents began to scatter in a panic as the red energy drew closer to them.
"Are you serious right now?" Darcy growled as she was left alone, handcuffed to the car. "Clint, wake up!" Darcy exclaimed as the Hex swallowed everything around it. "Oh, fudge." Darcy sighed as she was hit.
The Hex swallowed the entirety of the SWORD base. Anything it touched changed to fit Wanda's script.
"Can anyone read me?" Hayward asked as he and three others sped away from Westview. "Can anyone hear my voice?" He demanded once more.
But no-one responded.
They were a part of Westview now.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. theres so much unrealistic stuff in LO but rachel is a fool if she thinks people would totally be ok with hades wanting to be with a 19/20 year old who acts like a child. yes i am aware relationships can happen at any age (BETWEEN ADULTS) but theres a lot of legitimate reasons why people are disgusted by huge age gaps, and LO just makes it worse by emphasizing how childish and immature persephone is compared to hades yet all of three people in comic approve of it? what world is RS living in?
2. At anon 2 from the recent bunch of critiques, I had to chuckle at your keen eye! Honestly, Artemis' "dress" is just a slightly oversized shirt for her, since it barely covers Persephone's bits.
3. you know the "my wife" slip would actually be kinda cute if they had bee secretly dating for months/years and he just gott too excited over the future, as opposed to only knowing she's existed for all of a month at most, their first kiss being under un-romantic circumstances, not even going on a single date, and their marriage possibly only happening not out of love, but rather to keep persephone out of jail. what could be a cute slip is instead super creepy and possessive in the actual context.
4. lets be real here, rachel learning greek doesnt mean shit. she can be fluent in it and it wouldn matter when her whole MO is taking greek stories and culture to make it an american knock off. its like her claiming to be so well researched on myth, it doesnt matter when she just makes up whatever she wants anyway. she could use that time to actually making the comic good instead of trying to market herself as the next Madeline Miller (who actually has the credentials and none of rachel's ego)
5. im sorry, im greek and i dont want more greek stuff in lo. she cant even keep the actual myth or basic relationships in line, her adding random lines in greek wont do anything besides make herself and her fans feel like she now has more claim over a mythology she's already messed up beyond belief and constantly insults us with with her entitlement and bad attitude. she does not seem to love or respect our myths or culture, and learning our language (if she actually tries) will not change that.
6. i always see it as a bad sign when the only way to even try and make sense of a piece of work is the author(s) having to fill in the gaps via tweets, so the fact rachel has to constantly clear up confusion and try and fill in plot holes or just add stuff we never see in comic via her twitter is bad?? like she already drags it out so much and most readers arent going on her social medias, so why not just put this actual info and work into the actual comic? i dont understand that mentality at all.
7. IDK if this is just the issue of the romance genre itself, but it's bad writing that Persephone is only really defined in importance via Hades only. Her status and power in only being his wife. Her fertility powers are not defined in what it brings to her, just in how it can be useful to Hades (like his want for heirs). Even the comparison to Hera is not in that it shows she's queen material, but that she reminds Hades of the woman he wanted first and she won't reject him like Hera did.
8. i think lo fans just range too privileged to realize how bad the LGBTQ+, class system, and POC rep actually is. It's not a big win that Psyche is a WoC when she was introduced with non-black features, she's illiterate, and had her story was taken from her to focus on Eros, it's not a win that nymphs are low class who oppress the rich and are hated unless they're a "good one" (echo, daphne) to defend the rich, and its not a win the only LGBTQ+ rep is between two asexuals who just "got over it".
9. rachel would rather attempt to learn a new language (she literally can just ask a greek to translate lines for her also webtoons literally have translators on staff already) than use that time to make character sheets or double check her work for spelling errors. like she constantly always picks the dumbest ways to waste her time that she thinks will improve the comic than the stuff she could actually do (like fix the writing and art) like??? hello??? ma'am???
10. yeah im also confused bc the AOW happened but persephone doesnt actually seem to care. like she snapped bc the nymphs died, but she doesnt even tell us their names or mourn them, and her trying to pay for the dead mortals was not out of the goodness of her heart, and that was dropped for her to party and make out with hades. i love morally complex characters, but LO persephone isn't that, she's a spoiled child who cries she's the real victim as she gets away with figurative and literal murder.

So, to start off with, these are a little rough. Mostly cleaned up for spelling/grammar, but there are things that are more like placeholder notes in exposition form that would be written out if I went back to it.
This one's working title is Quantum Fracture, is "in universe" non-canon compliant, and is set both near the end of s.2 after ep.9, and a few years post s.8. It's also only semi-abandoned. I like it and want to keep going with it, but I've hit a wall and just can't do anything with it right now. It has (sort-of) time travel and "Galra genetics are weird" resulting in Klance kids. It does also switch between times, but those sections have punctuation separators.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Lance, Pidge, keep watch on the area. Keith, Hunk, and I will go down to check it out,” Shiro said over the comms.
“Got it.”
“Copy that.”
Green and Blue split off from the V-formation, flying over the asteroid while Black, Red, and Yellow landed on its surface. Lance and Pidge kept a visual track on their friends while keeping their scanners active for anything in the area. Team Voltron had been on their way back to the Castle after liberating another planet from the Galra Empire when Pidge’s more finely-tuned scanners picked up on what looked like an abandoned Galra base embedded in an asteroid. Shiro made the call to check it out and let Allura and Coran know what was going on, keeping Lance and Pidge on watch. The Black Paladin took point, with Keith right behind him. Hunk brought up the rear, man-portable cannon ready for whatever might try to sneak up on them. The facility was powered down, a layer of dust on every surface.
“Looks like it really is abandoned,” Keith said, “I don’t think there’s anyone or anything left here.”
“Agreed, but I want to complete a sweep of the facility. Never know what might have been left behind,” Shiro replied.
They continued on, not making any real effort at stealth, but only made it about another 20 feet before a side door creaked and flew open, Keith finding himself blown out into space, despite Hunk’s effort to prevent it. Keith tried to use his jetpack to redirect himself and head back to the facility, but there was just enough gravity generated by the density of the asteroid field to pull him toward the nearest surface. He bounced off the next asteroid, damaging his jetpack in the process. It sent him away from the asteroid field and into open space.
This isn’t how this was supposed to go, Keith thought as he floated in the void, then realized just how much Lance was rubbing off on him. His back hit a second, smaller asteroid, and he bounced off into the nothingness. Come on, Red. Where are you?
He felt the shift in the vacuum an instant before the sensors in his armor picked it up. The short chirp announced the sensors’ findings, bringing it up on the HUD. The display’s minimal capabilities showed the slight variant, a faint ripple in the fabric of space.
“The fuck is that?” he asked the void of space.
He hadn’t expected an answer, and didn’t get one. What he did get was the familiar mental pressure of the red Lion, immediately followed by the equally familiar golden glow of the robotic cat’s eyes. Red swallowed the paladin’s free-floating body, and he rolled through the slowly pressurizing corridor before the artificial gravity activated. He had only just taken his seat in the cockpit when he heard Pidge shouting across the comms.
“Keith! Are you ok? There was a spatial-temporal fluctuation right next to you.”
“Yeah, I felt it, but I'm ok,” he answered, exhausted from the mission and subsequent launch into space.
Green came up alongside Red, guiding them back to the Castle, Blue right behind them. Once the three Paladins were back aboard the Castle of Lions, Pidge insisted that Keith go to the medical deck, just in case.
“Ok, fine, Pidge. But I'm fine. Really,” Keith protested while simultaneously giving in.
She didn’t trust him to really go, but she was also concerned with the anomaly she found, so didn’t question it when Lance volunteered to make sure Keith went.
“Keith, what were you thinking?” Lance asked when they were alone.
“I don’t know what happened. It wasn’t anything I did and Hunk and Shiro will figure it out. Pidge is more worried about the space-time ripple we encountered. But I'm fine. Really.”
Blue’s Paladin stopped in the middle of the empty corridor. “You scared me, cuervo. I saw you get ejected into empty space without Red or any of us nearby. Pidge said she was going after you, but still…it scared me.”
“I don’t think we should hide anymore. I think it’s time to let the team in on our secret.”
The pair had been dating secretly for a month at that point, intentionally keeping their relationship from the rest of the team. Keith didn’t think they would have been taken seriously to begin with, and Lance agreed. After a late-night talk, they both decided to give it time and let themselves settle into their budding relationship. But it was beginning to make them behave differently, especially on missions. They became focused on where the other was and it was causing mistakes. This last mistake could have been deadly, although Keith was right, he hadn’t done or not done anything that led to the deserted Galra base’s small side door opening and pulling the Red Paladin into the cold vacuum of space.
“Yeah, I think you might be right,” Lance admitted.
Keith took his boyfriend’s hand, linking their fingers together, and headed toward the medical deck. Coran met them there, no doubt having been called by Pidge. Keith was thoroughly checked over by way of the Castle’s scanners, and as far as they could tell, not a molecule was out of place. After finding out that Keith was at least partly Galra, Pidge and Hunk had thrown themselves into a reprograming project to the medical deck’s scanners, integrating human biological standards. They were surprised to find that the scanners were already programmed with Galra standards, and that was when Coran told the entire team about the original Paladins, Zarkon included.
Instead of the lounge or one of their bedrooms, Lance and Keith instead went to one of the Castle’s many observation balconies. Once they were alone, Keith let himself crumble, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend and holding on as tightly as he could. Lance gently returned the physical connection, understanding that the events of the morning had affected him more than he would let on in front of anyone else. He waited until he could feel the tension drain and knew that Keith was just sneaking middle of the day snuggling.
“You better now?” Lance asked.
Keith sighed softly against Lance’s neck. “Yeah, I think so. We should probably go see what Pidge found before anyone wonders where we went.”
“I don’t wanna,” he protested, holding on tighter.
Keith laughed and pulled away. “Well, if we stop keeping all this a secret, we won’t have to worry about where and when anymore.”
“Ugh. I guess.” Lance’s tone was overdramatic as usual, but his blue eyes sparkled with excitement at the idea of being open about his relationship.
Stepping backward out the door, Keith led the way toward the Lions’ hangars and Pidge’s lab. Halfway down the second to last corridor, Keith tripped over the smooth floor. He caught himself mid-stumble and stopped completely.
“Keith?” Lance asked, “Mi cuervo, you ok?”
_~*~_~*~_~*~_
“Keith! What the fuck was that?” Lance called over the comm.
“Dunno, but my speeder’s sensors caught it. Heading back now,” Keith answered from inside his modified speeder.
Modified, that was, by Pidge, who had retrofitted all of the Lions’ speeders to be able to fly in space. They were still fairly short-range, not capable of straying far from the Lions. It meant that Keith was still in visual range of Red when the Lion’s sensors spiked with the anomaly’s fluctuation.
Lance was waiting at the door to the cockpit when Keith came in. The tail of the raised French braid that normally ran halfway down his back was draped over his shoulder. Lance had insisted on braiding his husband’s hair that morning. Keith had groaned and asked why, seeing as it was just a simple recon mission. “Because you’re pretty, the twins are at school, we have time, and I felt like it,” was the list of reasons Lance rattled off as he made Keith sit. He didn’t mind it, but they usually saved more complex braids for diplomatic missions, not “drive down the street for space readings” missions.
Keith had had his second puberty while in the Quantum Abyss with Krolia, and it ended up being a good thing she was there. Alone, he would have assumed that the abdominal cramping, chills, fever, nausea, and full-body pain meant that he was dying. Krolia, however, recognized the symptoms of the shift in her son’s body to that of a Carrier and becoming physically capable of conceiving and carrying a baby. She told him that his half-human status may well have rendered him infertile, but they didn’t have the resources to look into it at the time, and the middle of a war wasn’t the time to worry about it. So it surprised both Keith and Lance when he found himself pregnant not long after the war ended, and they welcomed their twins Andra and Ori five and a half months later after a normal Galra-length pregnancy. The twins birth records had their names down as Andromeda Artemis and Orion Fenris Kogane-McClain, names that were called with increasing frequency now that the twins were five.
Keith sat himself in the pilot’s seat, pulling up the sensor readings from both Red and the speeder. They looked the same to both himself and Lance, but Pidge would be able to make better sense of them. But something about the anomaly was bothering Keith. It took a good minute of staring at the readings to realize that it was similar to how spacetime behaved near the core of the Quantum Abyss. And something about thatbothered him even more.
“You ok, cuervo?” Lance asked, leaning against the edge of the display panel.
“Yeah,” Keith sighed, “Just something about that anomaly reminds me of the Quantum Abyss. We’ll get it to Pidge and figure it out.”
The trip back to the new Castle was short, Red bypassing the reconfigured IGF-Atlas and heading directly for his hangar on the original Castle of Lions. After the end of the Galra War and the brief, but intense, war with Honerva, the Voltron Coalition needed a permanent – and mobile – base. The Atlas reshaped itself, wrapping around the Castle like the defensive walls of an ancient castle around its keep. Its completed size rivaled that of Galra Central Command, now the seat of the newly-formed Galra Collective.
Team Voltron’s power couple – beating out Shiro’s marriage to Adam – crossed the distance to Green’s hangar, where Pidge still maintained her personal lab. They found her buried in her multi-screen setup, one screen dedicated to the call she was on with her long-distance Olkari girlfriend Malyn, the others covered in technical readouts, diagrams, and blueprints.
“We’re back,” Keith announced when they walked in.
“Oh good. Anything weird happen out there?” Pidge said, taking Keith’s comm.
“The anomaly is behaving like the core of the Quantum Abyss.”
Pidge shoved the device into her computer a little harder than she intended. Except for her ongoing call, she wiped everything off the other screens, replacing what was on them with the readouts from both Red and the speeder. Her amber eyes flicked from screen to screen, already analyzing.
“I’m really sorry, Malyn. I have to call you later.”
“Of course. Is everything all right?” Malyn asked, concern laced in her voice.
“I’m not sure yet. We found a spatial-temporal anomaly, but it’s behaving differently from anything similar I’ve seen. Maybe…there was one…nah, that was different…”
Malyn laughed, she always found her girlfriend’s analytical mind adorable. “I’ll let you get to that. We’ll talk later.”
“Hm? Oh, yeah. I'm sorry, Malyn. We’ll talk again later, promise,” Pidge apologized again, but Malyn waved her off, still laughing, and cut the call.
“So, you'll let us know when you’ve found something?” Lance prompted.
“What? Yeah. Right. This is weirder than anything I've ever seen like this…”
Lance and Keith shared a look, knowing that Pidge was fully invested in the data and that she wouldn’t leave her computer unless she was physically removed. Deciding on the tactical retreat, they left her to it, heading back to their apartment on the Castle.
The Atlas hadn’t been the only thing to be reconfigured. The Castle of Lions had undergone its own renovations, the old single rooms turned into apartment-like suites. Shiro and Adam maintained Garrison positions onboard the Atlas, but retired to the Castle at the end of every day. Lance and Keith settled into their apartment after their two month long honeymoon. Hunk was splitting his time between the Castle and Balmera, sharing his space with Shay when they were there. Pidge mostly used hers as an excuse for more tech and a separate workspace, but Malyn stayed there with her when she could get time away from rebuilding Olkarion under Ryner’s guidance. Coran had decided to keep his old room the way it was, and Allura felt that her own rooms didn’t need the upgrade. The rest of the rooms stayed the same for the new Altean crew running the ship at a proper capacity.
It wasn’t until they got back that Keith realized Pidge still had his comm. “Well, shit. I’ll be back,” he said, heading for the door.
Lance decided to follow him out into the corridor.
“Why?”
“Because,” Lance answered, “I have nothing better to do and I can watch you walk away all day.”
“What the fuck, Lance?” Keith groaned in mock frustration.
“No, that’s after we get your comm.”
Keith turned, intending to call Lance out on exposing him like that, but stumbled, relieved that Lance was close enough to catch him.
“You alright, cuervo?”
“Yeah, I'm fine. Just tripped,” he said, but stopped. Something was wrong. He could feel the braid hanging over his shoulder from when he stumbled, felt the strength in Lance’s arms. No, this was wrong. He looked up. There was a small scar he didn’t remember being there, and the blue Altean marks were definitely new. His own body felt foreign. It was shaped differently, taller and broader than it should be. His voice was different, a little deeper, a little huskier than it should be. “Lance?”
“Keith, love, are you really ok?”
“I…I don’t know.”
Lance helped him to stand, leading him back to their apartment. Once inside, he sat Keith on the couch. “What happened? Exactly,” he asked.
“What does – is this about the anomaly? I told you before that I'm fine. We had Coran check me out. There was nothing wrong. Where are we anyway?”
“We didn’t have Coran check you out. There’s an entire medical crew for that anyway. We’re home, on the Castle. What do you remember from this morning?” Lance’s entire tone was cautious. Something was very wrong with his husband, but he wanted to have at least some answers before bringing it up with anyone else.
“We were coming back from a mission and stopped to check out an abandoned Galra base in an asteroid field. One of the side doors opened and I got blown out. There was a ripple in space-time, and I got close to it in nothing but my armor before Red came to get me. But I'm fine. I told both you and Pidge that.”
Lance remembered that mission. Overall, it was unremarkable. The base didn’t have anything useful. But there hadn’t been any temporal fluctuations. Yes, Keith had ended up floating through the void, but nothing happened other than that. The only reason he remembered that mission in particular was because that was when they decided to tell the team that they were together. It had been ten years since that mission.
“Ok. I do remember that. But, that was ten years ago. That was when we decided to tell the team that we’d been dating for a month.”
Keith’s face flickered between shock, bewilderment, and terror. Ten years? There was no way that could be right. But the evidence was right there. His own body and voice were different. He could see and feel how long his hair had gotten. And then there was Lance. He was beautiful as ever, and it certainly seemed that they were still together, but he was different. The scar, the Altean marks – how and when the fuck did that happen, and why? – and there was the fact that he was broader, more muscled, not slender and willowy like he had been. He processed everything in real time, not saying a word in that time. It had apparently been longer than he thought, because Lance was looking up at him from where he’d tilted his head to the side.
“Keith? Mi cuervo? What is going on?”
“You…you still call me that? It really has been ten years?”
“This has to be related to that anomaly,” he muttered. “Yeah, it’s really been ten years. And, yeah, I do still call you that. A lot’s changed in ten years, but not that. Stay here. I need to show you something. It might help.” Lance stood, leaving the room for their bedroom, coming back in less than a minute. He extended his free hand, bringing Keith over to the table where they both sat. Lance placed a ring of smoothly twisted and woven silver metal and carved crystal that shifted between blood red, cobalt, and vibrant violet on the table between them. “Do you remember this?” he asked softly, “Do you remember when I gave you that?”
Keith stared at it like if he could untwist it mentally, he could remember what it was. But he couldn’t, because Lance had never given him anything like it. It was definitely something he could see Lance picking for him, but as far as Keith knew, he never had.
“No, I don’t,” he had to admit.
Lance sighed, a tinge of sadness to it. “Ok. Something happened with the temporal anomaly we found earlier and that Pidge is still analyzing. I know you’re really Keith, but I don’t think you're my Keith. What you said happened this morning happened ten years ago for me. We need to go check in with Pidge and see if she’s figured anything out yet.”
“Ok,” Keith agreed, rising to follow Lance, “I shouldn’t know anything else. Not yet. But at least I know we’re still together.”
“We certainly are,” Lance agreed, taking Keith’s hand, “We’ll figure this out. That anomaly might have fucked with your memories somehow, but we’ll figure it out.”
_~*~_~*~_~*~_
“Yeah, fine.” Keith stood on his own, suddenly realizing that they shouldn’t have been a corridor and a half away from Green’s hangar, they should have been close to their apartment in a completely different part of the castle. Everything seemed ever so slightly bigger, except for himself and Lance. His braid was gone, and he was wearing clothes he hadn’t seen in years. And Lance looked so young. This was the thin, wiry boy he’d fallen in love with more than ten years before. The one without the Altean marks he’d gotten when Allura revived him after saving her from an energy blast. But he heard Lance call him by that familiar pet name. That alone left Keith with more questions.
“We need to see if Pidge’s gotten anywhere with that anomaly,” Lance said.
“Yeah,” Keith agreed. When had his voice gotten higher?
Keith stopped when they walked into Pidge’s lab. It wasn’t what he was expecting. This was the lab of a decade earlier. The one with the laptop she’d brought from Earth along with the equipment she had either repurposed or built from scratch. It startled him, and he froze in place.
“Keith, seriously, are you ok?”
“I…I don’t know anymore. Everything is wrong. Where is everyone else?”
“Hunk and Shiro are heading back from the abandoned base now. That door just malfunctioned after going so long without maintenance. And there was absolutely nothing important there,” Pidge answered, still focused on her computer screen. She realized part of what he said and turned around. “Wait, what do you mean ‘everything is wrong’?”
“You’re looking at a spatial-temporal anomaly, but it didn’t happen now. There shouldn’t have been one here. I…I think I might be from your future. Or, at least, sort of. I don’t look any different to you, do I?”
“No. You don’t. Get back to the part where you think you're from the future.”
“I don’t know how much I should tell you. I don’t know if it could upset the timeline. But I know when I am now.” He turned to Lance. “It’s been about a month now, right? And we had that talk?”
Lance nodded, trying to understand just what his boyfriend was saying about the future. “Yeah, and we did talk about it. Just a few minutes ago. But if you're from the future, I don’t know if talking about that now will help. It also doesn’t answer the question of if you’re Future Keith, what happened to Present Keith?”
“I don’t know. Best case, he switched places with me. He’ll be confused and probably a little scared, but I know he’s in good hands there. Fuck it feels weird talking about myself in the third person. Have you found out anything about the anomaly here?” he asked Pidge.
“Well, I think so, but I've never seen anything like this before.”
Keith came up behind her, looking over their temporal disruption. It was identical to the one he’d found in his time. He had no question now that he had switched bodies with his 18-year-old self. But at least there were a few things he didn’t need to worry about hiding. He knew he was at least partly Galra at this point. He wouldn’t meet Krolia for a little while, so he would have to keep that one to himself. But it also meant that he hadn’t been through the Quantum Abyss yet. There was no way he could tell them about that without explaining everything. He would have to be subtle with asking about the war.
“I have, but I can’t tell you anything specific. Like where, why, or how. And even knowing what it is, I don’t have your science brain, Pidgey. I have no idea how it works.”
Both Pidge and Lance were staring at him. Not because of what he said, but how he said it. He’d picked up a lot of linguistic quirks from Lance over the years, and no longer gave it any thought at all.
“You sound like Lance,” Pidge said finally.
“We’ve all spent a lot of time together over ten years,” Keith replied, avoiding the real question.
“Sure. What canyou tell me about this?”
Keith pulled Hunk’s usual seat over, sitting beside her. Lance perched on an empty spot of desk space, suddenly wanting to be closer to his boyfriend, or whatever he was at that point.
“It’s specific to a single point in space, but not this one. But that’s the problem. I can’t tell you anything about where it is or what it is because you haven’t gotten there yet. All I can say is that space and time work very differently there due to massive fluctuations in gravity, which is why this doesn’t make any sense.”
“Because there’s something there that affects the gravity in a way that it doesn’t where we found it.”
“Basically. It’s more like what affects gravity there doesn’t exist anywhere else, especially where this anomaly was found. It’s also far smaller here than it should be. Like the difference in scorch marks between Lance’s rifle and Hunk’s autocannon.”
“So, this anomaly is a precise shot, and where it should be is a huge mess,” Lance said.
“Pretty much,” Keith agreed, “But I really can’t tell you about it because there’s something vital to the war there and I don’t know how it would change things if you found out about it now. It wouldn’t be good. There are other players you don’t know about yet.”
Pidge continued typing away at her laptop, the 3D render of the anomaly rotating on the screen. Lance wanted to watch the progress, but he couldn’t focus on it. His attention was solely on Keith. Except for his earlier phrasing, he didn’t think Pidge had picked up on just how different he was. Body language, mannerisms, almost everything had changed in some way except for his physical appearance. And there was one thing Lance had noticed almost immediately after Keith started talking about the anomaly. He was pretty sure Keith wasn’t aware of it, but he had been running his left thumb across the ring finger of the same hand, like there was something missing. Lance thought about bringing it up, but decided not to, heavily suspecting Keith would just say that it was something else he couldn’t talk about.
Young Justice Universe
Dick Grayson x Barbara Gordon
I have a theory that Dick and Barbara totally got together in the middle of season 2 (as opposed to the time jump between S2 and S3) and nobody can convince me otherwise
Events take place after Young Justice S2 E9: Darkest
_
Dick was definitely not feeling the aster.
He was exhausted, much like anyone would be after nearly being blown up. As he walked along he kept replaying the sound of the explosion over and over again in his head. He clutched the flash drive Kaldur had passed to him right before they lost Mount Justice. He could have put it in his bag along with his Nightwing suit for safe keeping, but he couldn’t let go of it. He needed to feel it in his hand to keep telling himself it was worth it. Losing the cave. Almost losing his life. Continuing to lie to everyone else was worth it. It had to be.
As he rounded the corner, he paused and found himself holding his breath. She was there. Of course she was there. Barbara Gordon was sitting on the steps of his apartment building. She hadn’t looked up and seen him yet so his instincts told him to turn around and run. He’d grown distant from his best friend since this whole thing started. Dick was able to lie to the entire team, even the League, all this time because the fate of the world depended on the success of this plan. But he knew that if he looked Babs in the eyes, he wouldn’t be able to do it.
He chose to keep walking forward. Before he could say anything Barbara got up and hugged him. Her touch was a warmth he hadn’t felt in a while. He definitely missed her.
“Are you okay?” She said as she stepped back.
For a second Dick had forgotten what had just happened and that Mount Justice was gone. Reality set back in like a cold punch in the face.
“Yeah yeah. Everyone’s pretty shaken up, but we all made it out...except for those that were taken.” He said while avoiding meeting her eyes.
“Tim said that explosive took out the entire place.” She said in a way that sounded like a question.
So he nodded. But then when he looked back at her, her concerned expression turned into sadness for a brief moment. Dick forgot that Mount Justice had become a second home to Babs too when she joined the team.
They stood there for a minute before Barbara broke the silence.
“What’s actually wrong?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Dick said as he headed into the building.
Babs grabbed her gym bag from the steps and followed behind him, “yes you do.”
“I’m your best friend, Dick. I know when somethings wrong.” She said as he pressed the elevator button.
Dick stepped into the elevator and she invited herself in behind him. He chose to not address it so he tried to change the subject.
“What’s in the bag?” He said.
“What’s in your bag?”
“I asked you first.” He retorted without skipping a beat. He missed their banter.
She sighed sarcastically and unzipped her gym bag a little as it still hung on her shoulder. Right, dumb question. He saw the bat symbol on her suit’s chest plate and her cowl. It was past midnight so figures she was out patrolling. That’s two points in her column now cause this is further proof to her he was off his game. He could feel her eyes look up at him, so he knew he was right.
As he pulled out his keys and began opening his door he remembered the flash drive in his left hand. The events of the evening all rolled back to hit him like a tsunami. The harsh words from Wally echoed in his ears. It was worth it he told himself.
When they got inside Barbara made herself at home -as usual when she comes over. She laid down her stuff and headed to the kitchen. Dick put the flash drive on his dresser before heading for the couch. He fell into the cushions with the weight of the universe on him and put his head in his hands.
He felt Babs come back. She sat next to him and comfortably put her legs in his lap. She had opened a bag of chips and offered him some. They sat there together for a while in silence. Just two friends, eating chips, comfortably in each other’s company. Maybe it’s because Barbara knew him longer than almost anyone. She knew everything about him. She knew who he was, both as Dick Grayson and Nightwing -Robin before that. She was everything to him from his first kiss to his best partner out in the field.
Finally Barbara put the bag on the coffee table in front of them and she scooted closer to him. He put his arm on her knees.
“Talk to me, Grayson.” She said.
Dick finally brought himself to look at her. He looked at her and saw her deep, green eyes starring right at him. They weren’t filled with resentment like Wally’s or anguish like Conner’s. They were warm and comforting. He feared that if he told her what he wanted to tell her, that they wouldn’t look at him that way anymore.
He let out a sigh and closed his eyes. She reached for him. As he felt her soft touch on his face, he broke. He told her everything about the mission and the lies.
When he got to the part about Artemis working undercover with Kaldur, he noticed her expression get distant.
“So she’s -she’s alive?”
He nodded. And waited. Waited for her to yell at him. To tell him what he was doing was wrong. That it wasn’t worth it. Or worse, for her to say nothing.
Instead she looked at him and asked, “who knows?”
He told her about their tiny circle that was in on the plan. He told her how he felt lying to everyone on the team, about the flash drive, about how he felt responsible for the other’s kidnapping, about how he almost got his team -his family- killed. He felt like he had been underwater and how he could now finally breathe. He had kept everything bottled up for so long that now it exploded and he didn’t even notice there had been tears until he found himself wiping at a wet sensation on his cheek.
When he looked at Babs she didn’t say anything. She simply pulled him to her and embraced him. His head lay under her chin as he allowed himself to wrap his arms around her waist. Dick steadied himself as he listened to the rhythm of her heartbeat. They sat this way for a while.
Dick pulled away finally when he felt he’d gained control of his breathing and his thoughts. He looked at his best friend and said, “you’re not mad?”
She looked at him and took a long breath.
“No,” she said finally, “for as long as I’ve known you Dick, you never do anything to hurt anyone. Even if that means hurting yourself. I don’t like that you lied, but I understand why you did. I’m sorry you felt that this was something you had to take on by yourself. I’m sorry you felt like you had to be Batman...”
She trailed off at the end. Babs knew more than anyone that Dick no longer wanted to become Batman. She knew from working with him first-hand that Batman was somebody only Bruce Wayne could be. Anybody else would be crazy to try to act like Batman...except Dick did.
“I’m not telling you that you have to let me in on the rest of your mission,” Barbara said, “I just want you to know you’ll always have someone to talk to when things get overwhelming. You’re not Bruce, Dick. Never forget that you’re never alone.”
That was it. Leave it to Barbara to always have the perfect thing to say. He felt like a huge weight had been lifted off him and could feel a relief he hadn’t felt in ages. He looked at her and simply said, “thank you.”
She smiled.
“Soooo,” she said after a moment. “Wanna watch a movie or something?”
He raised an eyebrow.
Babs sighed, “I told my dad I was gonna sleep over at Mary’s to finish a project because the original plan was to spend the night on patrol since Bruce is presently out of town but then I heard what happened through the comms and I found myself coming here...”
She was starting to ramble a little. Dick noticed she only did that when she got nervous...and he’s rarely seen Babs get nervous. He hadn’t realized how close they were sitting to each other either.
“Yeah, we can watch a movie.” Dick agreed after he found himself starring at her lips for a little too long.
He tasked himself with finding something to watch while she got the bag of chips and went back to the kitchen to find something else for them to snack on.
Dick couldn’t help but watch her. He loved the way she walked around his apartment like she lived here too. So maybe it had been too long since the last time he’d seen her. Really seen her. Like outside of their costumed extra curricular activities. He missed her. Babs was always beautiful. And it wasn’t weird he thought of her in this way. They’ve always had a special type of relationship. But besides the usual playful flirting between them and a couple kisses -amazing kisses- they were just best friends. Secretly he’d been wishing they were more than that since he was 13 but he knew he wasn’t ready for her then.
Thinking back to their conversation, he realized how much they’ve each grown as people. And more importantly how it felt like they hadn’t grown out of each other as most childhood friends do. No, if anything they’ve grown more into each other. No matter how much time they spent apart, they could always come back together and fit perfectly like two pieces of a puzzle. The sound of a pop from the microwave brought him back outside his thoughts. Then he stood up, like on autopilot and as if his brain had just said “fuck it. Stop being a coward” he walked across to where Babs was waiting on the popcorn. As she turned to address him, Dick took her face in one hand and her waist in the other and kissed her. It was a long and deep kiss. He pulled away a little after to see her expression.
He was close enough that when she opened her eyes again he could see her pupils were dilated as she looked up at him. They were both breathing slightly heavy from the kiss. He could tell he caught her off guard but he didn’t know how to string words together to say how much he just wanted her and was tired of dancing around it. So he hoped his eyes were enough to convey that message. The silence was broken by the microwave beeping. Dick took the bowl out and put it on the side of the stove to let it cool a bit.
“Dick?” Barbara said making him turn around.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. He started kissing her back and as their lips moved together Dick felt a warm feeling in his stomach. Is that what people mean when they say butterflies? He’d been with other women but never felt that. He pushed her up onto the kitchen counter and his hands traveled to her waist. Her hands moved from the back of his neck to his hair as she pulled him closer. Her lips were so soft that he never wanted to depart from them and her touch was so soothing that he felt every worry lift off his body making him feel weightless.
The way their bodies moved together was in perfect synch. Like two pieces of a puzzle, he thought to himself. He noticed her hands had gone down to the bottom of his shirt, gently tugging at it. So he pulled apart for a moment and took it off. Her hands felt so amazing as they touched his chest. As their lips met again this time his wandered down towards her neck. He hasn’t realized she was wearing a black tank top that fit her so well until the moment when he began pulling it off her. Their eyes locked as she smiled at him. He couldn’t help but smile back because her happiness was always contagious to him.
Dick realized that if they were going to continue, they shouldn’t keep doing so on his kitchen counter. Without skipping a beat he effortlessly picked her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist and he carried her over to his bed.
Apologies if this is worded poorly (it is very late here) but a little question, if I may, regarding that Internship AU idea you came up with- In Kunegetikos, Angeline figured out about the whole ‘En Fin’ incident, and was understandably enraged- since you mentioned that the AU might serve as a sequel to that fic, how does Angeline ever allow Artemis to participate in an internship with Spiro’s company? Or is it something that just happens really quickly and kinda secretly, and by the time she finds out, Artemis is already there?
Firstly, this isn't worded poorly at all -- thanks for asking about the au! To go off of Angeline' reaction in Kunegetikos, she *is* incensed that Spiro:
1) nearly successfully ordered his hired muscle to kill Artemis
and 2) that he likely will never face repercussions for that (in the legal sense -- Artemis + Holly certainly 'got even' from the perspective of now #Living Rent Free in Spiro's head for the indeterminate future), due to the fact that the People are very invested in making the Cube debacle stay buried.
However, she didn't pull Fowl Sr. aside and tell him about this, nor did she accuse Spiro of the crimes she knows he committed out in the open at the party, because in this fic, Angeline is the only Fowl parent to remember/know about the existence of the People. She's certainly wary of Spiro, and displeased that Fowl Sr. set up the internship without consulting her (which would have given her the opportunity to offer up some carefully crafted excuse for why Artemis should take [insert another job offer] instead).
Buuuut she is also aware that if she were to let slip anything a little too related to the existence of the People, then Artemis would be pushed by the LEP to cut her out of the loop of information — if not mindwipe her. Not that Artemis would allow this to happen, but Angeline is operating on the information she has available to her, which is that Artemis himself erased her memories of his time in Hybras for (in his eyes) her own good, and she doesn't want to have something go wrong and not know the People are responsible.
Essentially, she is letting Artemis take the internship because she knows the People currently think it's to their tactical advantage to have Artemis (a human) get close to assess the situation of Spiro still roaming about with the knowledge of magic existing, and she'd prefer to be able to keep a close eye on what Artemis is doing, which is what this sort of silence allows her to do.
I sort of alluded to this in the notes, but Kunegetikos (and most of my fics, honestly) are canon divergences around The Last Guardian, because:
1) I don't want to have to navigate just how different the world would be after the technocrash
2) although I love the symbolism of Artemis being reborn as a clone created by the People (connecting to this idea of his growth as a young person being driven by the People, making him more fairy than Fowl), I don't love that it results in him again losing out on more time with the twins
and 3) I like the dynamic (and the character exploration it allows for) of Angeline being in the know about magic, but Fowl Sr. only having this vague pull towards the idea that there's a greater power out there somewhere.
Which is kiiiind of a long-winded way of saying I'm doing a lot of hand-waving of late-series-canon because I think it's more fun, but hey, c'est la vie!
The Stars in Our Skies
For @thespacecryptid for the @ironstrangehaven Gift Exchange ❤️
Link to AO3 Post: https://archiveofourown.org/works/28625829
Notes:
Alrighty, so first I need to apologize to my giftee, TheSpaceCryptid. I tried to finish your gift early, and I want to say I had it done sometime between the 15th and the 20th? And after a lazy Christmas Day I went into my Google Drive to post this and it was just... gone. I have no idea what happened. So I had to redo the whole thing from scratch. In some ways I like this version a lot more, though- and in others I think the original was a little better? But overall I'm pleased with this.
You had a lot of ideas I absolutely adore- like Asexual Stephen (insert my heart eyes here), and stargazing dates, and these two being professors. Just. Mwah. Beautiful.
Also, I'm tagging this as Teen due to some discussions of sex- nothing graphic, though, obviously- since I headcanon ace Stephen as a sex-repulsed asexual like myself.
I hope you like the fic and your bonus artwork to make up for how late this ended up being! Apologies again!!
The Stars in Our Skies
Tumblr media
Tony stared just a little bit as the new astronomy teacher strolled into the break room and began fixing himself a cup of oolong tea. He had a beautiful face, with sharp cheekbones and a well-defined jaw, as well as piercing, beautiful eyes. Tony also had a funny feeling that he’d met the astronomy teacher many times before, but he couldn’t put a finger on where.
He knew Professor Strange had been a surgeon back in the day, and he was sure he’d seen him at some of the galas he’d attended in his youth. But it felt like he’d seen Strange more recently than that.
He was very obviously distracted during his class, and he gave up on whatever physics explanation he’d been trying to give the poor engineering class he was clearly confusing, and told them to just go ahead and work on homework, giving them a bonus extra two days on his latest paper as well to top it off while he sat back down at his desk to think.
At the end of the period, two of his best students came to sit next to him.
“Everything okay, Professor Stark?” Peter asked while Harley gave him a knowing smile.
“Fine, boys, just a little off my rhythm is all,” Tony said, trying to look unconcerned.
“You sure?” Harley asked innocently. “Sure it’s not something else? A certain someone, maybe? Like… I dunno… the hot new astronomy professor?”
Tony had been taking a drink of coffee and choked on it at Harley’s words, which was decidedly not good, since the coffee was still piping hot thanks to his specially designed insulated mug. “I- you- what?” Tony spluttered.
“What?” Harley asked innocently. “He’s kinda like you, Professor. A silver fox. He’s smokin’.”
“Harley!” Peter said indignantly. “You can’t say that about a professor!”
Harley shrugged. “Too bad, it’s true, Pete. ‘Sides, Professor Stark should come to terms with the idea.”
Tony’s eyes narrowed suspiciously at Harley’s tone. “Oh really?” He asked. “Why?”
Harley shrugged innocently. “Because I wrote Professor Strange a note in your handwriting and hid it in his desk drawer asking him to go on a date with you tonight at 8:00.”
Tony stood up so quickly his coffee mug almost spilled all over the papers he’d collected from his first period, but before he could shout at Harley at the top of his lungs, a certain handsome professor was standing in his doorway.
“Oh,” Stephen said, looking from Tony to their students. “I’m sorry, are you busy? I could come back another time.”
He was holding a piece of paper that had obviously been folded a few times in one of his trembling hands.
“No, we were just leaving,” Harley said sweetly.
Peter felt himself blushing for some reason as he passed Professor Stark a quick note of his own. “Um, I just wanted to know if you’d please check my work on these chemistry notes,” he said.
Tony glanced down at them. A new web-fluid design. He nodded to Peter. “Yes. Yes. I’ll look them over and e-mail you with any necessary changes.”
“Thanks!”
Without another word, Peter seized Harley’s upper arm and dashed out of the room, while Harley laughed and tried to protest, clearly thrilled with watching Tony flounder in the presence of his crush. You could hardly blame him. Seeing Tony Stark, Iron Man, who was a professor for fun, flounder, was a rare and almost unheard of sight.
“Hello, Professor Stark,” Strange said politely, and Tony felt his face heating up. “Um- hi- I-”
“I am very sorry,” Stephen said, setting the note in his hand down on Tony’s desk. Tony caught a glimpse of the handwriting- fucking identical to his own. That damn Keener brat. When Tony got his hands on him-
“But I am afraid I must decline your invitation.”
Oh.
Tony hadn’t even known he was asking Stephen on a date a few minutes ago, but somehow Stephen’s words still stung.
“Oh,” he said out loud. “Uh… busy?”
“No,” Stephen replied.
Yeah, that definitely hurt.
“Oh.” Tony glanced at the note and quickly plucked it off the desk. “Okay. That’s fine, I understand. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable with this.”
“You didn’t,” Stephen told him. “It was actually very flattering. But I don’t think you would like to be in a relationship with me, so I am afraid I must decline.”
Wait, what?
“Uh… sorry, you lost me,” Tony said awkwardly.
Stephen chuckled. “I identify as asexual,” he explained. “Specifically, a sex-repulsed asexual. And from what I know of your past...er, love life, I think it’s better if I decline the invitation altogether. I don’t want to upset you because you want to have sex and I don’t.”
Tony’s eyes widened. “So it is an ace ring!” He said, pointing at the black ring on Stephen’s middle finger on his right hand. “Rhodey called me crazy and said it was a swinger’s ring!”
Stephen blinked in surprise and glanced down at his ring. “Er- yes, it is,” he agreed.
“Cool! Okay.” Tony shot him a smirk. “In that case- are you an ace of spades?”
Stephen looked shocked. “You- you know about the card suits?”
“Sure do,” Tony said proudly.
Stephen narrowed his eyes. “Okay then- who uses the ace of diamonds?”
“Demisexuals and demiromantic asexuals,” Tony said. “Ace of clubs is for graysexual and grayromantic, ace of spades is for aromantic asexuals, and ace of hearts is for romantic asexuals.”
He grinned, and Stephen had to crack a smile. “Very impressive.”
“So, what’s your suit, Doc?” Tony asked, grinning at him, and Stephen had to resist the urge to let that smile widen.
“Ace of hearts. I’m a romantic asexual.”
Tony grinned. “I can work with that.”
Stephen allowed his face to fall into a small frown. “Tony, I-”
“Look, Doc, I don’t need sex to be happy,” Tony said. “I’ve had loads in my day, yeah, but I’m a big boy and frankly, I think it’s about time I had a relationship that wasn’t so focused on it. If you’re good with a romantic relationship, I can be happy with one, too.”
Stephen chuckled despite himself. “Persistent, aren’t you?”
“Very,” Tony said, a bit smugly.
Stephen chuckled. “Very well.” He wrote something on a small scrap of paper and offered it to Tony, taking back the note Harley had written. “You can pick me up there, at 8:00.”
“I’ll be there,” Tony said, snatching the fake letter back. “And I’ll give you something actually written by me then.”
~(*)~
Tony pulled up to the house on Bleecker Street. Huh… looked kinda like a museum, to be honest.
The elegant Professor Strange was already walking to meet the car. “Right on time,” he teased, climbing in. He looked like he was putting on a brave face as he entered, and Tony took note of the way Stephen’s hand reached for the cabinet handle on the inside of the door.
Tony bit his lip. “I just like to be on time to things,” he said casually, placing his right hand on the console if Stephen wanted to hold it too, or instead.
Stephen nodded. “Well, I appreciate it. So, what’s the plan for our date?”
“I think you told Professor Verity that you like ramen from Samurai Noodle, right?”
Stephen smiled. “Yes, that’s right.”
“Great! Then we’re getting take-out,” Tony told him, grinning to himself. “And I have a great idea of where we can eat it.”
“Oh? And where is that, exactly?”
“It’s a secret,” Tony said, smirking. “Are you ready to go?”
Stephen nodded, looking amused as he took Tony’s free hand on the console. “That I am. Let’s go, Professor Stark.”
Tony snorted as he started the car. “Alright.”
He tried to sound cool, but he knew that he had started blushing.
~(*)~
“So what exactly are we doing in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night?” Stephen asked as Tony laid a large blanket out in one of the large fields near the Avengers Compound.
“Why?” Tony asked, smirking at him. “Don’t you trust me?”
Stephen chuckled. “Is that your way of saying you’re secretly an ax murderer about to eviscerate me in the middle of this field, free of any witnesses?”
“Ouch,” Tony complained. “You’re really good at wounding someone’s ego, you know that, Strange?”
“So what’s the real reason we’re out here, then?” Stephen asked, amused.
“Lay down,” Tony ordered, pointing to the blanket. “And look up.”
Stephen did so, and gasped in surprise. “The stars….” He breathed, sounding mesmerized.
“That’s right,” Tony said, smiling at him. “Not to easy to see them in the city. But I figured you’re the Astronomy Professor… maybe you’d like to see them more clearly? Maybe teach me something I don’t know?”
“Lay down,” Stephen ordered quietly. “There… Orion the Hunter. Can you see his belt? The three stars, just here.”
“Oh… right,” Tony said. “Isn’t he that dude everyone says Artemis loved?”
“A common misconception these days,” Stephen murmured. “In many of the myths, Artemis was actually the one to kill him, on purpose, for harassing her friends, the Pleiades, or she would encourage someone else to kill him for her, such as Apollo. He’d summon a giant scorpion to kill Orion, which many believe is Scorpio, as the two constellations aren’t around at the same time. When Scorpio rises, Orion vanishes.”
“Cool,” Tony said softly, staring up at the night sky with Stephen. “What else can you see?”
“Sirius, the Dog Star, Orion’s hunting dog,” Stephen said, pointing to the bright star. You can see the constellation Taurus there. Gemini there. Monoceros is there, very faint. You see? Look closely.”
“Beautiful,” Tony murmured, resting his head on Stephen’s chest as he gazed up at the sky.
Stephen smiled to himself and wrapped an arm around him. “Hmm. Not as beautiful as you,” he murmured in a thoughtful voice, making Tony blush.
~(*)~
“Was that an okay date?” Tony wondered as he drove Stephen back to Bleecker Street.
Stephen smiled at him. “You don’t know?”
“Not really,” Tony admitted. “And I kinda wanna… you know. Do this again.”
Stephen chuckled as they reached the museum door. Wait… how come even the building looked sort of familiar? And the street…?
“Well, in that case… it was a perfect date, Professor Stark.” Stephen leaned over, kissing his lips gently. “And I expect to go on another one with you very soon.”
“Sure,” Tony said, a little breathlessly, his eyes wide as he stared at Stephen. “Whatever you want….”
“Perfect.” Stephen smiled at him, and suddenly something long, red, and fluttering was at his throat, gently tugging him out of the car. “Alright, Levi, alright. I’m coming,” Stephen murmured, reaching out to stroke the red fabric.
Tony stared at it. A sentient cloak….
Wait- was he-?
Stephen was already disappearing inside the door when Tony found his voice, so he couldn’t ask him directly. He sat in the dark of his car, dumbfounded, and feeling his heart pounding. Was that the kiss, his sudden epiphany, or both?
“FRIDAY?”
“Yes, Boss?” Chirped the cool Irish accent.
“Am… am I dating the Sorcerer Supreme?”
Extra Notes:
To clarify the "Stephen is the Sorcerer Supreme but Tony doesn't recognize him but is sure he's met him before" thing- I headcanon that Stephen's magic acts as a sort of "barrier" to his identity- and just protects his identity for him. I got the idea from Cute High Earth Defense Club actually- where the villains and heroes can't really recognize each other as specific students when they meet due to "radio interference" almost- but in my Stephen headcanon, it's more that the magic puts a sort of veil over Stephen, so Tony is sure he's met him before, but he can't put his finger on where until he recognizes Cloakie and goes "oh shit, Stephen's the Sorcerer Supreme I've been battling monsters with???"
you’re like the only blog with valid apollo/toa meta all of your posts are EXCELLENT😩 👌 also, I wanted to ask you about how you think apollo’s relationship with the gods will be after ton (after the canon flow of events). bibtts Apollo is rightfully angry with the shit they are spewing, but in canon they actually BET on him!! wtf!! he’s not going to be bffs with them💀what do you think apollo’s familial relationships gonna look like post-toa?? Post near death by chaos??
OOOOH THANK YOU SO MUCH!
you’re also an ✨excellent✨ pjo blog.
this took me some time to think about, so I’m late.
First of all, and this is just a pet-peeve, I think that post-canon Apollo WOULDN’T do the Muses as dirty as he did. I don’t understand what kind of weird assumption Rick made, but I don’t see how he wouldn’t hold any grudge against Artemis, or Hermes, or whoever, but still mercilessly refuse to visit his friends, companions and mothers of many of his children.
That’s a weird way to cope. Whatevs.
I do think, though, that for the first months Apollo would feel some kind of rejection towards godhood. He wouldn’t want to see any deities, even those who had been kind to him. In my mind, he just spends the first months in solitude, except for occasional letters to his children and friends to be like “I’m alive.”
That’s for a number of reasons: shame, humiliation, imposter syndrome, anger, grudge, guilt, and the little voice in his head that whispers it’s all their fault.
He does see Artemis, because he missed her too much, and she’s the most important person in his life, and she won’t leave him alone (oh, how the turns table!), but something is weird. He’s distant, and can’t help but feel the resentment building in his chest. He doesn’t want to blame her. But he does.
Once he’s sure he won’t throw up in the presence of a fellow immortal that’s not Artemis, he visits his mom. And apologizes for taking so long to see her. They take their sweet time together, and he lets himself be cuddled and spoiled because Leto is mom, and his mom is very special.
Then, he gradually starts living his life the way he did (minus the assholery, I guess), and that INCLUDES VISITING THE MUSES. OFTEN. Driving the sun chariot, seeing the future, sending gifts to his children to make it up to them for basically disappearing again, the usual.
He’s still distant with all the Olympians, and Artemis is the first one to really confront him about it. After a few months of awkwardness and small talk they realize they are brother and sister, and their existences are inextricably tied, so they can’t go on like this. Not when they are each other’s half.
They start talking in the same moment and then smile goofily and say “you go first”.
Artemis goes first and tells him she doesn’t understand. Why isn’t he happy? Didn’t he get what he wanted? Who is he angry at?
He goes second, and tells her the unadulterated truth. He tells her his father has hurt him one too many times, and this time beyond forgiveness. He tells her he doesn’t want to hold all of them to blame, but somehow deep in his heart he does, because they could have done something. They could have helped him. They could have been close, supportive, defying of Zeus, affectionate, they could have said “you didn’t deserve that”. No one told him he didn’t deserve the horrors he went through, now that he thinks about it. Does she think he did? Is that why she hasn’t said anything? Because she does think their father was lowkey right, that he was arrogant and insufferable and deserved what he got?
Apollo doesn’t argue whether that would be logical or not. He doesn’t care. He knows who he was, he knows he deserved to face the consequences of his actions. What he wants to know is if the gods looked down and thought “ah, he’s getting what he deserves!”, if they laughed at him, if they didn’t lose sleep, if they secretly think he’s being dramatic, if, before criticizing him so harshly, they’ve looked in the mirror recently.
Artemis is speechless for a while. Then she tells him, in an anxious tone (Artemis is never anxious), that she can’t speak for everyone, but she knows Hermes, Dionysus, Ares and even Athena were worried, like her. And Hera. And Leto, and the Muses. And her Hunters that have known him for centuries.
“We admired you. You were brave, you faced everyone of your mistakes, you fought valiantly, you were merciful when you could.”
She also says, she thinks, but he hears it (godly twins thing) that he paid a debt for all of them. All of their mistakes, their cruelties, lacks of judgment, all of the reasons why they deserved to be punished and held accountable: he took it all on his shoulders, and even if they don’t say it, the gods are grateful for his courage and selflessness. They owe him a big one. No one wants to go through what you did, are the unspoken words.
But I would she thinks briefly and he can’t have gotten that right, I would if it meant-
She doesn’t finish the thought because gods don’t apologize, but he heard more than enough, and his anger melts away so easily it’s comical.
Tenderness takes over his body as he thinks of his beautiful, honorable, stuck-up, fierce, wild, haughty little sister that would be willing to go through all of the hurt, pain and humiliation he went through if it could erase his. Or if it meant he wouldn’t be angry at her anymore. Well, jokes on her, he would rather cut his own arm than let her go through that.
She’s thinking a lot of things, very quickly, including yes I should have helped you more, I did think that it would do you good, I called you a coward in Delo I shouldn’t have, I didn’t know Zeus would so cruel, I should known better, I should have defied him-
So he hugs her TIGHT, and doesn’t let go.
For a long time, he’d thought that would make him happy. He’d egoistically, sadically thought that his siblings feeling a hint of the remorse and pain he’d felt would make him feel better and that he would smugly say something like “HOW DOES IT FEEL, UH? WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF I SAID YOU DESERVED IT?” but his anger has gone poof.
He tells her it’s all fine, he loves her, she’s done what she could and he loves her.
After that, he slowly makes peace with the other gods who had been his friends before the Trials. He plays games with Dionysus, and Hermes apologizes for the bet, which is absurd.
“What? What did you say?”
“Don’t make me say it again!”
“I genuinely don’t think I got that right.”
“I’m sorry! Okay? Sorry for that stupid bet. I was worried for you. Tryna cope.”
He smiles awkardly. Apollo punches his shoulder affectionately but he’s still learning to dose his godly strenght, and sends him to the floor. Oops.
He hears Hermes’ flable “Maybe I deserved that.”
He has long conversations with Athena about the western civilization and why social medias are destroying cultures and causing the dawn of humanity.
He fights with Ares and kicks his ass.
Hera and him start to begrudgingly like each other and bond over having Zeus in their life, which is tough.
Hera is weirdly proud of him. Now that he thinks about it, many of them are.
He doesn’t know whether he should be offended that they didn’t think he would survive all of that shit, or happy because of the hesitant respect coming off the Hunters (TAKE THAT!!), Ares, Hades.
The demigods.
The demigods love him, actually.
That is why he eventually decides to ask his father (to whom he hasn’t really talked to since that first council), if he can take Dionysus’ place at Camp Halfblood. Zeus wants to say no his punishment must go on you’re irresponsible you presume too much I could obliterate you all but he must realize giving long, over-exaggerated, unreasonable punishments isn’t really doing wonders for his popularity, so he nods stiffly.
Apollo never goes back to considering Olympus is home. Some people are home. And also Artemis’ camp is home, Aeithales is home, Leto’s house in California is home, Camp-Halfblood is home, his palace slowly starts being home again, but Olympus never does. When he’s there, he’s distant, and wants it to be over soon.
But that’s fine. He’s fine, and has a family. He’s not close to 60% of the people in the Council, but he doesn’t resent them anymore. He’s healing his relationships as well as he’s healed himself, and he slowly starts to feel a little bit proud of himself, too.
Look how far I’ve come.
Eventually, he forgives his father. Not because they get close and start being best buddies, or because his father apologizes (LOL), but because he doesn’t feel any anger toward him. Rage. Grudge. Hate. None of it. What he feels is“okay”, and “he’s there.” He’s there like the weird leopard head is at Camp-Halfblood.
He doesn’t have strong feelings about it.
Aaaaand, that’s how it would go for me. Sorry this is soo long and rambly!!
Thanks for all the lovely comments the previous chapter got! You guys are the best :) And keep them coming because that is literally the best reward I can get :)
...
“Hey Sunshine, you ready?” Leo asked her flatmate one November Friday as he was pulling his winter coat on in the hallway.
“In a minute!” Calypso yelled from her room. “Just… One final touch up!”
Leo checked his watch. “Okay, as long as it’s really a minute! You know Argo II isn’t waiting!”
“You do know that Argo II doesn’t have feelings, right? It’s a car,” his non-understanding flatmate argued.
“You better hope he didn’t hear that!” Leo protested. “He may just not turn on at all if you claim such things.”
“Oh my gods, Leo. Sometimes I wonder if you care about your machines more than people.”
Leo didn’t respond to that. To himself he mumbled. “At least I know how to fix them. And can’t hurt them.”
The flatmates were getting ready to leave for Jason and Piper’s late Halloween party. Most of the members of their friend group had been busy doing their own things on the real Halloween weekend but they had decided that they’d still want to have a small gathering at Jason and Piper’s house on a later date. Percy and Annabeth would be there, as well as Jason’s sister Thalia, her ‘friend’ Reyna, and Jason’s friend and a distant relative Nico. To Calypso Leo had told, that he had only met Nico a couple of times, because apparently Nico was a bit of a lonely soul and he wandered around the country doing who knows what. That fall, though, he had apparently met someone who had managed to keep him rooted to his home, so Leo suspected that there was a possibility that Nico really would show up this time.
Leo snapped out of his thoughts when Calypso’s door was pulled open, revealing the girl in her costume. His mouth opened involuntarily as he took her in. She was wearing a white chiton like dress with golden decorations around the neckline and accessories that matched the theme. Those included a golden headband and a belt, a bracelet made of real flowers, strappy leather sandals and since her own hair was short now, she had gotten a caramel colored wig that she had braided to one side, reminding Leo a lot of the hairstyle Calypso had had when she had moved in. She smiled at Leo shyly. “Well, what do you think?” She asked, lifting the hem of her dress slightly to show it off better.
“You’re… you’re…” Leo felt the words escape him again. With frustration he wondered how one person could do that to him. Leo Valdez never ran out of words.
“Calypso?” she tried to guess what he had wanted to say.
‘What?” He asked with confusion, unable to follow Calypso’s track of thoughts. In his mind he had answered her question ‘prettier than greek goddesses’ but he realized too late that she had meant that she was dressed up like the Calypso from the Greek mythology. “Oh, now I got it. Must have sniffed too much machine oil or something…Anyway, I see you have some self irony, dressing as your name sake.”
“That was kind of the point, Valdez. A girl named Calypso who studies Greek mythology? People comment on my name so often that I decided it’s time to make it clear that yes, I’m aware of that coincidence.”
“Ooh, the great revenge,” Leo chuckled. Suddenly he noticed that Calypso had turned more serious, her hands fiddling with her purse.
“Really, though, what do you think of this? I made this dress and these bracelets myself. And my mum gave me this before we moved here,” she pointed at her headband. “Apparently it’s something that’s been running in our family; my grandma wore it in her wedding picture and so on…”
“Oh… Well… that’s cool,” Leo said, mentally cursing the ‘error’ message on his brain. “You did a good job. I mean… I once saw a painting of Calypso in the Indianapolis Museum of Art and I think you look nothing like her… in a good way!”
“Aww, thank you.” Calypso seemed happily surprised about Leo’s comment, and he swore the expression made her even cuter. He also wondered if he should have a doctor check his heart because it seemed to do funny things in her presence...
“You’re welcome?” he replied stupidly.
“So, where is your costume?” Calypso asked curiously, apparently only now paying attention to the fact that he indeed wasn’t wearing one yet. “I thought you said we’re in a hurry.”
“I can’t drive in mine, it’s difficult to see from under it,” Leo explained, returning to his room to get a huge sports bag where he had packed his creation a bit earlier. He had spent several days making it and he was kind of proud of the final result. Although, seeing Calypso now, for a moment he still wondered if he had made a mistake with his costume choice, but it was too late to change his mind now. “I’ll put it on when we get there.” He gestured towards the bag.
“Okay,” Calypso nodded while changing her shoes into more fall suitable ones. “I’m looking forward to seeing what you have come up with.”
“Good, because it will blow your mind,” Leo claimed.
“I will refrain from forming any opinions before I see it,” Calypso noted, putting her keys into her pocket. “Now, come on, mister Mysterious, I hear Argo II isn’t very patient.”
Leo secretly loved it when Calypso attempted to joke back, and he grinned at her as he held the door open so she could leave first.
“Let’s go then, Sunshine.”
The drive to Jason and Piper took about 20 minutes so Leo and Calypso had a lot of time to talk about whatever came to their minds. At first Calypso gave Leo pretty short answers and he got worried that something was wrong between them again, but eventually Leo got her curious about the guests at the party that she hadn’t met yet.
“The Hunters are traveling a lot because of their competitions so I haven’t met Thalia that often. She’s a little bit scary, though. She has this edgy look going on and I’ve heard she is super strong; she’d ninja throw me on the floor before I’d have time to say Festus if given a chance. I’m trying very hard not to give her any reasons to do that.”
“Ouch. She sounds like something else,” Calypso said.
“She is,” Leo confirmed, almost getting chills only thinking about her. “She can be nice if you get to her good side, though.”
“Is it just me or does someone have a crush?” Calypso asked teasingly.
“What? No!” Leo exclaimed, glancing at Calypso’s reaction briefly. “Alright, maybe I used to have but that was when I didn’t know what was the best for me. But that was a long time ago. Besides, she’s totally dating someone even though they won’t admit it.” ‘And I wish I was dating someone else as well’, he thought, but left that unsaid.
“Oh? Will I get to meet that person today?” Calypso asked with curiosity.
“I think you will. From what I know Reyna’s always with Thalia. They claim they are only best friends but Jason has told me that they are keeping a low profile because it’s forbidden inside their team to date their teammates.”
“That sounds like a basis for a tragic love story,” Calypso said while staring out of the window with a dreamy expression. “I don’t even know these people but as a hopeless romantic I hope they will find some solution.”
Leo thought Calypso was very cute when she talked like that “Yeah. I hope.”
“So, do you know this Reyna personally?” she asked then, distracting Leo from his thoughts.
“You could say that,” Leo answered, trying to focus on the road instead of the girl next to him. “The team visits Waystation regularly because Jo and Emmie used to coach them back in the day and as a fellow Spanish speaker Reyna has always paid special attention to me. I swear, sometimes she treats me like I was his little brother…”
“Aww, that’s kind of sweet in my opinion. What is this team you were talking about, though? Did you say Hunters?”
“Oh, yep. The Artemis’ Hunters, named after the Greek goddess Artemis, naturally. It’s an archery group… Hey, is everything alright?”
Leo couldn’t help but notice that Calypso had shifted uncomfortably on her seat and adjusted her seatbelt a bit looser around her shoulder when he had said the name.
“Yeah. Don’t worry. I just… used to know someone who was in the Hunters as well, so I was surprised they have some connections here, that’s all.” Calypso turned her head to stare out of the window, sending Leo signals that he should drop the topic. He decided to push it a little bit further, though.
“You did? But you said ‘was’. Is she not in it anymore?”
“No,” Calypso shook her head, but didn’t elaborate.
“OK.” Leo sighed. A few moments earlier Calypso had been smiling and teasing him about some old crush and now she was acting cold again. Clearly the Hunters were a painful topic for her, but Leo couldn’t figure out why. Had something happened to the person Calypso had known? And why did she have to be so secretive? Leo wanted so badly to be able to help her and understand her, but when she was not opening up, it was very hard to do anything about it.
“Any guesses about what my costume may be?” He decided to change the topic. That seemed to cheer his flatmate up a bit.
Calypso closed her eyes while thinking, a tiny smile forming on her face. “Hmmm, I imagine it’s probably something flashy. But knowing you it could also be your work coveralls and working boots. I know how much you love those, after all.”
“It’s flashy, alright,” Leo said, his grin returning back to his face. “I’ll give you another hint: it’s a character from one of my favorite TV shows or movies.”
“You have a lot of those,” Calypso reminded him. “Ooh, now I know!! You’re Dalek! That’s why you would have a hard time seeing from under the costume.”
“No,” Leo shook his head, “But now that you say that, that would’ve been cool! Why didn’t you give me that idea earlier?”
“Because you already had an awesome idea? Or that’s at least the impression I got,” Calypso reminded him.
“Well, yeah. I still like my current idea. Maybe next time I’ll make a Dalek.” Leo had a goofy smile on his face as he imagined building a Dalek costume from the scratch.
“Sounds like a plan. So, will you reveal to me what you will be this time?” Calypso asked.
“Nah, you’ll see soon. Good things are worth waiting for, right?”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Calypso shrugged. “Although our opinions on what’s good tend to differ a bit based on our previous TV watching experiences.”
“Yeah, but that’s why it’s good we are flatmates. It’s good to broaden your horizons sometimes and learn about different things that other people like,” Leo pointed out.
“Maybe you’re right,” Calypso admitted. “But are you saying you have learned something from me? What could that be?”
“That olives taste bad? That sometimes Venusaur can be more useful than Charizard?”
“Not exactly what I was looking for, but I’ll take that.” Leo turned his head just enough to see a small smirk on Calypso’s face.
“I was just messing with you because I think you secretly like it,” Leo said with a grin. “But really, you have taught me a lot. That we shouldn’t let fears control the direction of our life. That Greek mythology is actually pretty fascinating even if tía Callida made it sound boring as hell, and we should all learn to understand different cultures better. And, you know? There’s no way we can know every single thing about someone else so we just need to learn to trust and give them a benefit of the doubt sometimes. And finally, I shouldn’t underestimate your Mario Kart skills.”
Calypso snorted at the last part. “Sometimes you do surprise me, Repair Boy. That was a good answer.”
“I can feel my reputation as the Bad Boy Supreme getting shattered to pieces. What about me, though? Have I taught you something?” Leo asked. If he was honest to himself, he didn’t want to know because what could he possibly teach to a smart girl like her?
“You taught me that chilis are evil and you should never eat them the way I did,” Calypso replied, and Leo was fully prepared for more teasing. But it never came.
“You have also shown me sometimes persistency can be a very good thing – otherwise we probably wouldn’t be friends now. We also shouldn’t judge a book by the cover – I’m just saying that when I first saw you I was kind of prejudiced… but since learning to know you better I realized I was wrong. And remember that time when Jo and Georgina were visiting us and you came home a bit late? Jo told me some stories about you before you arrived and that made me understand how far hard work can sometimes take us. You’ve come a long way… and while there are always things we can work on and improve, I think it’s important to be proud of the things we have already achieved, even when looking ahead.”
“Wow… those are some really nice things you just said there…” Leo stumbled to find the right words. Especially the last point had hit him hard because he had had a very hard time with his self esteem recently. He still didn’t know if he would be allowed to retake his lab test – and more importantly, if he was even capable of trying. That was just the tip of the iceberg; it definitely wouldn’t be the only time he would have to face his fear during his studies and later on in the work life, and he would eventually have to make the difficult decision whether it was worth going through. He did want to get over his fear, but with her own issues on her mind, he hadn’t wanted to ask her to help until the situation was better.
“Hey,” Calypso squeezed his knee gently and Leo was afraid he’d accidentally brake so fast they’d crash somewhere. Thankfully he managed to contain himself. “I know I nag and tease you sometimes, but I hope you know despite that I actually care about you and respect you for the things you do. I’m… glad you’re my flatmate.”
Leo was very thankful that it was dark in the car because he was positive that he was redder than a chili pepper. After swallowing hard, he managed to croak: “Yeah. Thanks. You’re pretty neat too.” “Pretty neat?” Calypso asked, cocking her eyebrow.
“Argh, sorry, you can’t expect a guy to be able to think straight after you tell them something like that!” Leo exclaimed. “But, uh, I mean, I think the same way. That it’s nice that you’re my flatmate.”
“Glad we have that established.” Calypso smiled at him. Again Leo wondered what it was about that smile that made his heart go crazy. He had had a couple of short term girlfriends before Calypso had moved in and even though he had liked them, there was something different about how Calypso made him feel. But now that Leo thought about it, he realized that for example Khione, his first girlfriend (who had turned out to be quite an ice queen in the end) had had a smile that had never quite reached her eyes and made him wonder what was truly going on in that head of hers. His second girlfriend, Echo, had been a sweet girl but something about her smile had said that she’d rather be free of relationship bonds. Leo thought that he had probably sensed that from pretty early on because it had been a smaller shock for him than his first break up. But Calypso’s smile? It made Leo want to see it over and over again, and instead of wanting something from him, it seemed to give him more energy. It made him feel restless, but in a positive way.
When Leo snapped out of his thoughts, he realized that Calypso was staring at him weirdly, as if he had been in his daze for a while.
“What?” he asked a bit nervously.
“You just completely missed my question,” Calypso stated, frowning a little.
Leo tried to shake his head to clear his mind a bit. “Sorry, I was just… remembering something. But what did you ask?”
“I asked if there’s any news from your professors about your studies. It’s been a while since you’ve said anything about that.”
Leo gulped. “Yeah. Right. Um, at the moment I’m continuing to attend the classes except the lab one. I guess I should ask the lab professor if he would still let me redo the test at some point. But the other problem is, I’m not sure if I can. You know, if I have it in me to get over my stupid fear.”
“It is not a stupid fear, Leo. You have your reasons. But I do believe that you can get over it. And I want to help you. We should start working on it soon, how about tomorrow or some time next week?”
“Tomorrow is fine to me.” Leo started tapping his fingers against the wheel, a sign of him feeling anxious about the topic. “I… really appreciate your help. Is there something I can do in return?”
“You already did!” Calypso said to his surprise.
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“Remember that flower shop you mentioned to me?” Calypso asked. “I guess I’ve been so busy this week that I forgot to mention this but it looks like I’m getting the job! The interview went well and the boss invited me to see how they make their flower arrangements and they even let me do this.” Calypso showed him her flower bracelet that had some small roses and several other flowers the names of which he didn’t know. “She will make her final decision on Monday but I might start working there already next week.”
“That’s awesome news! Congrats!” Leo said, genuinely happy for her.
“Thank you! And sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, it seems we have both been rather busy this week, I feel I’ve barely seen you…”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m glad I was useful for something! But look, that’s Jason and Piper’s place.” He nodded towards the building in front of them.
Leo looked from the corner of his eyes how Calypso would react to seeing the house. From what he knew Calypso hadn’t been there earlier; she and Piper had hung out more at their flat due to the closeness of the university. He wasn’t disappointed when he saw Calypso’s mouth open a bit.
“I know, pretty impressive.” Leo said.
“I have seen big houses before but this looks way nicer than the ones I know…” Calypso noted. Leo wanted to ask more about that but he knew that the friends were waiting so he decided to leave it for later. Once he had parked the car, some strange instinct told him to rest his hand on hers for a moment before he gestured to Calypso to step outside.
“After you.”
Zoeyna Soulmate!AU
°In an universe where the feelings of the two soulmates are bounded.°
@them-awesome-rarepairs
***
When she was born, Zoe didn't feel any connection. It was normal for an immortal, rare were the ones with a soulmate. Persephone or Eros were exceptions. So, yes, this emptiness was normal. And yet, Zoe wanted it to be filled.
When she met him, she felt different, she was drawn to him. She was scared for his life, his jokes made her laugh, his touch made her shiver. Maybe this is it, maybe he was the one. She gave him her sword. She wanted him to live, she wanted him to come back to her.
When her father learned what she had done, she felt lost. Exiled from her home and family, forgotten by the hero she thought she loved; she wanted nothing more than belong somewhere and be able to let everything behind her.
When she came across the hunters, she didn't get what they were at first. It's Artemis who told her about the girls without soulmates, some immortals and mortals who didn't have any 'missing part' like some idiots liked to say. Zoe felt at home with them, more than ever before. And for the first time in forever, she didn't want anything more than this new life.
When she felt the connection, it took her time to understand what it was. It already happened to some of her fellow sisters: a soulmate born centuries after them, an unwanted connection. Zoe was an immortal, she had accepted that she had no soulmate and was fine with it. And when Artemis entered her tent and understood what was happening to her, she wanted nothing more than disappear.
When she felt their despair for the first time, it was the first time in millenia that Zoe had felt compassion for someone who wasn't part of the hunt. She wanted to hate whoever was at the other side of this link, but feeling the distress and fear that they constantly lived in, she couldn't help but want to reassure and protect them. How weak of her.
When she felt the threat to their life, Zoe lost control. She had shared their feelings for more than ten years now. Always doing her best to repress hers by day, but, secretly, reassuring them by night, sending all the support she could. Something she would never confess to any of her sisters. But today, their fear wasn't like before. Something was happening. Zoe wouldn't admit it, but she was deadly scared. So she did what she does best, she fought. And after she gave them all her strength and courage, a deafening feeling of horror filled her to her core. And she knew in that instant, that her soulmate would never forgive her whatever she helped them accomplish.
When she felt them again, it had been years. After this dreadful night and weeks of feeling lost and scared on her behalf, Zoe stopped feeling any connection, like if her soulmate just stopped feeling anything. Artemis told her it was a good thing, she pretended to share her joy, but deep down, she couldn't help but be concerned. And finally she felt the connection again, but when she realized how terrified and similar to pleas for help their feelings were, Zoe wished she never heard from them ever again.
When she led the quest to save Artemis, Zoe thought she would meet her death at the end of it. It almost happened, but when she threw herself before her Lady in order to protect her, a wave full of determination and alert helped her stop her father's fatal blow. She was alive, Artemis was fine, and a new sister joined their ranks. Zoe should want to party with her sisters more than anyone, but what she really wanted to do was thank the one who had saved her life tonight.
When she led her sisters in the battle for Olympus, her strengths weren't only her own. She didn't understand how, but when she gave commands, Zoe felt like her voice was echoing at the same beat as another.
When they retrieved back to San Juan, it had been weeks if not months that the hunters had been tracking Orion. Zoe had felt her soulmate go through difficult changes of humor during the last year, especially the last weeks, but she couldn't allow herself to give it importance. And it's when they came close to find the Giant that the hunters met the Amazons, who informed them about the presence of their queen's sister on the other side of the city. Zoe sent three hunters to retrieve her. A few hours after they left, Zoe felt horribly sleepy and slightly scared, but hided it, it wasn't the time.
When the Amazon queen's sister pinned her down, Zoe felt weird. Like if a burning sun was radiating just before her face. Flustered, she brushed it off. She couldn't let herself get distracted. And strangely, she felt the exact same set of feelings emanate from her soulmate.
When Phoebe took an arrow for her, Zoe saw herself unable to move, without Thalia and Reyna, whose name she had learned just a few minutes ago, she would have been killed. It's the young praetor who helped her get back on her feet and gave her strength thanks to her powers, but Zoe felt like Reyna didn't need them to give her courage and will to fight.
When they celebrated their victory against Gaea with the demigods, Zoe looked for Reyna in the crowd. She said she wanted to congratulate the girl who had brought back the two worlds of halfbloods together, but the truth that even her wouldnt admit was that she wanted to know more about this sun.
When the reconstruction of Camp Jupiter had been completed, Zoe was filled with doubt. But why ? She didn't know. Her soulmate was tormented and she didn't understand by what. Zoe felt this doubt dissipate when the hunters were about to leave New Rome. And it's when Thalia had just come back from saying goodbye to her brother, that she understood. Reyna entered her tent, the last one which had to be dismantled before they left to follow a new track after they had finished helping with the rebuilding of the Camp, and asked what thousands of girls had asked before her, but which sounded particular coming from this intriguing daugther of Bellona : "I want to join the hunt!" And it's before this determination, resolution and will to be part of a new adventure, that Zoe found the answers to all her questions. She knew it, from the bottom of her heart, she would never let this girl go again.
When they talked about it for the first time, it was three weeks after Reyna had joined the ranks of the hunters and let her place to Hazel Levesque. She had quickly found her place among them and seemed more relaxed than the leadership of the romans ever made her feel, Zoe knew it better than anyone else. It happened after all of the others went to bed, leaving them on guard. Reyna told her about Venus' prediction "No demigod will heal your heart.", and how she thought it meant that she'd never find or would lose her soulmate. And when their eyes met, Zoe could see how much Reyna was happy to have been wrong, even if she didn't need eyes to know what was in her heart.
They were together now, definitely inseperable, and with their soulmate by their side and a thousand of adventures to come, they knew they had found the peace and healing they'd been dreaming of.
"greek-Bros: The Return of an Old Enemy"
Chapter 4: Into the Wolf's Den
After his encounter with Artemis and Hermes, the wolf creature shambles back to a small entrence way into Mount Parnassus. Through rock and dirt, climbing up and down a corridor of stone, he desends down deep into the earth, back to his accursed master.
As it haphazardly turns around to make full sure of himself that he wasn't followed, he faces a large cavern gate, made from wood scavenged from the surface. Symbolically guarded by two crudely made statues of snarling wolves cobbled together with bits of scraps of pottery, wood and metal.
Due to his fatal injuries, he's slowly dieing from wound. Inspite of reanimating, he doesn't have too much time until the magic that keeps him half-alive wears off. Inhaling the damp, musty cave air, he let's out a long low howl, alerting the guards at the gate. The first guard, probably on his first day on the job, pokes his head through the gate wall much like a dog would stick its head trough a hole in wall.
"YESH, PASSWORDSH?" the young gaurd in a gruff toothy voice. He looks down and sees that there was no time for passwords, the wolf at the gate was fading fast. "HEELP! WALKN DAED! He clumsily shouted.
The dieing wolf started to cough up blood and fluids. He barked in agony for assistance to come faster. As he was swaying back and forth, two other wolf-men dressed up in hoplite armor carrying a patchwork stretcher come trough a hidden door build on the left of the gate, nearly indistinguishable from the panels of wood around it. They assist the wounded wolf man on to the stretcher, hastily going through the door.
The young gaurd wolf struggled for a second to unstick his head from the hole, but successfully gets free. He scampers towards the two soldier wolves, sneaking past his boss and fellow gaurds, he avades being seen by the others as his child-like curiosity and excitement to hear news from the surface. He passes down the subterranean paths and bridges, entangling the vast width of the cave, passing by makeshift markets, mining carts, runs past other wolf-folk, squalored in the dark damp cave. After navigating the rafters of a place loving called "Lycadia", he secretly arrives to a little ledge over looking the more elaborately constructed throne room of the ruler of this dark new underworld, King Lycaon. Alas, six other equally immature wolf-folk had the same idea and took his best spot, so he tries to squeeze a little towards the floor of the ledge to get a better look at what could possibly happen.
Down in the thrown room, the two hoplite wolves present King Lycaon the dieing scout. After so many decades, time has been cruelly kind to Lycaon, he still wore the royal robes he had on that faithful day, but now....the robes adorned a man no longer, but gnarling old wolf. His eyes glowed a sickly gold, his fur was dull with age but combed and clean, inspite living the rest of his life as an animal...he certainly did not want to live the squalored life of one. Lycaon, huntched down on his throne, snarled at the sight. "Wwwhat happened?" He growled. He got up from his throne, with every step followed by a tiptap of his claws and the jangling of the stolen jewelry and gold that he adorned. "How DARE....you comeback without any new tributes from.....grrrrrrr.....the surface." Said through a snarled teeth.
One of the hoplites, sheepishly interjected considering his fallen brethren was not fully capable of speaking. "Um...your highness, he was injured in...b-bbattle." he stuttered in fear of what Lycaon would do to him for defending a lowly scout. He points to the scout's mouth and neck, where Artemis's arrow had penetrated. The scout however, was fading fast, wheezing as the dark force keeping him alive was slowly abandoning him.
Lycaon glared at the scout with daggers in his eyes, furious that he had failed his mission. "Grrrrr, figures. You should be grrrreatful that you're even here.....the prRRRrrrivilege of laying your eyes on your KING....for the last time...now...tell me....." he snarls as he takes out a tiny vile and gently drops a miniscule droplet into the scout's mouth, just to give him a little more life to relay the information he had.
The scout's mouth burned as soon as the liquid touched his tounge, at first wheezing from the hole in the back of his throat, now healing over, letting him cough and scream. This wouldn't last too long, he was dead prior to arriving, so this was just to relay information. "Master, I-I was fofofffollowing the moon goddess" he struggled to speak.
Lycaon listened carefully.
"I-I...I was clossse, to capturing herrrrr....ssssshe was so clossse....until.....the messenger came. Warrrnnnnned her." He continued.
Lycaon his snarl worsened with anger, he knew exactly whom the scout was referring to. "Go onnn...or I'll put you out of your pathetic misery....." He threatened.
The scout coughed, just as fast as the liquid restored him, he slowly fading fast. "But.....I have good news....out numbers....grow...more and more...new citizens....will join....our....ranks...the gods....are unaware.......long...live...king Lycaon.", with the scout's last words, he breathes his last. Dieing on the floor of the throne room.
Although it was not much, King Lycaon was satisfied with this...but it doesn't stop him from being unsatisfied. He dramatically turns around, "Throw his body into the consumption pit. It will keep those BEGGERS away for a bit." He coldly commanded. "How many in our army?".
The hoplite wolves immediately went into attention, "400 men and soldiers, my Lord. All varying from all across Greece, even a handful from Persia and Rome." One replied.
Lycaon, glared back at the hoplite. "Women?" He asked.
"12, your highness. 5 priestesses among them", the one replied.
A sick and perverse smile crawled across his maw, licking his lips for what the prospect of comes from taking virgin priestesses, "exccccccellent....I suppose.....the number of....'new blood'....has risen?", the tyrant king continued.
The hoplite wolf, slightly uncomfortable with having to tell this information, "um...yes my Lord...74 young children...ready for conversions." He responded.
King Lycaon, let's out a small inconsequential chuckle but slowly that chuckle grows in volume and intensity, it grew into a mad cackling. As the caves echoed with his evil laughter, howls can be heard reverberating from all corners of Lycadia, the waves vibrated and boomed throughout, as if the whole mountain would explode from the conchophony of wolves. He stops, and turns to the hoplites, "...wwwhHat are you two... STILL doing HERE! Rrrremove that pile of useless flesh from my throne room! And send some one here to cleeeean this spot....a king must be prrrresentable....to introduce....the new generation of LYCANS to Lycadia....once we our numbers grrrow....we shall convert ALL of Greece, than....hmhmhmhmhehehHAHAHAHAH!....the world...now....GET OUT OF MY SIGHT!" He dramatically finished.
The two hoplites scrambled to to take the corpse and drag it to the consumption pit, where the lower caste lycans scavenge for food. The cruel king, claimed up to his throne to rest his old bones. He has been ruling Lycadia for less than two centuries, outliving any possible living decent that could even remember Lycaon. He believed, once his plan would come to fruition, he will be king of far much more than Lycadia.
The lycan youths, satisfied with the display of King Lycaon's authority, all leave the ledge to go back to whatever they were doing. The head guard was there too, tapping his foot in disapproval of the young gaurd's unprofessional behavior. All of the young welps had left....with the exception of one very young pup. Who seemed to have decided to be curious about "the surface". Unlike the other welps, he wasn't converted, he was born in Lycadia, roughly six years of age, he was rearing for a more exciting adventures. All of Lycaon's talk of this world above his stony world, had him thinking about exploring. As he scampered through out possibly the same path as the young gaurd, he sees the big wooden gate. Like an inconspicuous mouse in a vast garden, he's unnoticed by the guards, granted a good mix of them probably weren't gaurd's prior to conversions. The pup slipped through a little opening in-between to large logs, trotted off to new horizons.
After to what the little pup felt like forever in his whole, he finally catches a glimpse of the 'surface'. He sees the sunset, just slowly about to retire to leave room for moon, although he couldn't understand why the big bright thing sank into the horizon, he knew it was too bright for him to like, the little pup thought he would go blind the moment he saw the sun for the first time. However, time was on his side to give him a small taste of daylight before the night came, giving him the gift of moonlight for the little pup to explore in more suitable light. This whole new world was filled to the brim with smells and sounds the pup would have never dreamed of, he drinks in the sight of this little patch of forest, extending his little pawed hand to touch grass for the first time, feeling it's cold but pleasantly prickly blades. His tail, too small for it to be considered a tail but some older lycan's standards, wags uncontrollably, the little pup knew this bold new world was ripe for adventure. Without looking back at the cave entrence, he darted through the grass, off to an adventure.
