Wakanda
He heard the giggling before he opened his eyes.  It was bad enough they didn't respect the privacy of his home but to wake him up early as well on his rest day was irritating at best.  He opened his eyes and they scattered, running out of his hut while calling him White Wolf.  He sat up and heard Shuri's voice outside gently chastising the three boys.  Quietly he rose from the bed and smoothed the red robe he was wearing before bending his head to exit the hut.  He looked around and felt the peacefulness of the village before he approached Shuri.  She greeted him cheerfully, calling him Sergeant Barnes.  He insisted she call him Bucky and she bowed her head in acknowledgement.  When she asked him how he was feeling he replied that he felt good, then he fixed his gaze intently on her.
"Thank you for everything you've done for me," he said quietly.
She smiled then told him they still had much to learn.  He gazed at the serenity of the lake near his hut for a moment then turned away from it and followed her.  In the five and a half months he had been there he had worked as a goat farmer, learned to make goat cheese, had helped with the harvesting of crops, all while still having sessions with Shuri on modern history and technology.  In many ways it had been a surreal existence, balancing the old ways of living with the realities of modern society.  But it had been peaceful and calm.  The villagers accepted him and every once in a while he would play with the children, especially when they brought a soccer ball out, as he didn't need both of his arms for that.  They went to a modern structure in the heart of the village where a computer terminal was set up.  Bucky sat before it, with Shuri at his side.
"Before we start I have a question," he said calmly.  "How exactly did you undo the HYDRA programming?  Unlike the other treatments I have no memories of you trying anything.  Which means either you took a big chance and did it in one try or you tried it on someone else first.  Which was it?"
"Neither, really, Sergeant Barnes," replied the young woman.  "If you must know I recreated your brain in a digital format.  I copied every aspect of it and created a holographic version of it.  Then I created an algorithm to feed into your recreated brain that would remove the trigger words and render them incapable of affecting you.  I would enter the calculations and then enter the trigger words and see what the digital copy of your brain did in response.  I wanted to remove the effect of the words but not remove the core of your own personality, the good man that was still in you, the protector."
"How many times did you have to adjust the algorithm to achieve success?" he asked.  "As brilliant as you are I can't believe it worked the first time."
"It didn't," she admitted.  "It took many tries."  She hesitated for a moment wondering if she should tell him then remembered her promise to be truthful to him.  "There were 387 attempts over the 4 months, 2 weeks and 6 days you stayed in full cryostasis.  We were close several times and almost decided to apply the algorithm to your brain but not all problems were evident at first.  Some problems took days to become known and we had to start from the beginning again."
"So the final treatment on me, on my brain, was a one shot attempt," he stated.  "Even though you tested it on the holographic version of my brain you didn't really know for sure it would work on the real brain, the physical one."
He looked steadily at her, with no judgement or emotion evident on his handsome face.  "I wouldn't have tried it if I wasn't 100% sure it would work," she replied confidently.  "There were no short cuts taken, no long shot theories; everything was tested and retested multiple times before we were confident that it would work.  May I ask why you are asking this now, and not five and a half months ago when you came out of cryostasis for the last time?"
"I didn't think of it then," smiled Bucky.  "But here, in this village, I have more time and inclination to think and reflect.  Remembering what I do of the scientific process it struck me that you needed a way to test your treatment without the possibility of damaging this broken white boy any further."
Shuri grimaced and coloured slightly.  "I apologize for using that term," she said.  "It was flippantly said as I was attempting to save the life of another American when you were here."
"But I was a broken white boy," insisted Bucky.  "Did you know Lacey's first book was called Confessions of a Broken White Girl?  It seemed fitting that you thought I was broken.  I felt like Humpty Dumpty when I first came here, unsure if all the King's horses and all the King's men could ever put me back together again."
"It was a challenge," stated Shuri.  "Never had I or any of our scientists faced such a task before.  Which made it all the more imperative that we get it right.  The stakes of your recovery are high, Sergeant Barnes."
"How so?" he asked, puzzled.
"What do you know of child soldiers?" she asked.  "You may have come across the term in your studies."
"Children kidnapped, drugged and forced to be foot soldiers in a conflict," he replied.  "You mean they are brainwashed?"
"Not in the same way as you but yes," she said.  "Treated with violence and cruelty then injected with all manner of drugs they learn only to kill and abuse others.  For many, when they are finally rescued they remember nothing else and struggle to return to a normal life, even if they are reunited with family.  It was hoped that what we developed to treat you could be used to treat them; to remove the violent memories and restore the good memories they had before they were kidnapped.  So far, the results have been promising."
Bucky let out a long slow breath and looked at Shuri.  "So what you are learning about me is helping children?" he asked.
"Most definitely," she said firmly.  "Is there anything else you would like to ask me or discuss?"
"What about the nightmares?" he asked.  "I still have them."
"Yes, I know," she replied sadly.  "Unfortunately there was little we could do to mitigate all of them.  They originate mostly in the amygdala and are connected to PTSD, which you do suffer from.  I personally suspect it is your own conscience that generates the nightmares as you still haven't forgiven yourself for what the Winter Soldier did.  Even though Bucky Barnes was helpless to stop the soldier you still feel guilt for his actions."
He looked away for a moment considering her words then nodded and turned to the computer.  "What am I learning about today?" he asked.
"American history, from 2000 to the present year," she said.  "Shall we begin?"
She sat with him directing him to online resources on 21st century history.  As he looked at the various entries he remembered some of them from the perspective of the Winter Soldier, for he had been the Fist of HYDRA, shaping history to their benefit.  It distressed him at times, especially when there was a loss of life involved but before he could return to normal life he needed to know what had happened in the world.  After several hours of it Shuri touched his arm.
"I think that is enough for today, Sergeant Barnes," she said.  "Perhaps it is time for you to do something more enjoyable, like call Miss Williams and your son.  It has been several days since you last spoke with them.  Is everything alright?"
"Yes ... and no," he said, frowning slightly.  "I've had an increasing fear that we will never be able to see each other.  We both talk about it when we are together and look forward to it but there is a sense of inevitability that seems to foreshadow that it will never come to pass.  It troubles me and I'm having a hard time keeping positive on the calls."
"How long have you felt this way?" asked Shuri, concerned.
"I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago and it keeps getting stronger and stronger," he answered.  "You don't think the treatment has stopped working, do you?  I'm not regressing?"
"I don't think so," she said.  "Are your nightmares related to it?"
"They're my usual HYDRA nightmares," he replied.  "Nothing out of the ordinary.  When I'm working here I don't feel it.  It's usually when I talk to Lacey."
"Would you object to me observing a video call with Miss Williams?" asked Shuri.  "I will have a kimoyo bead monitoring your brain activity to see if it shows up."
He nodded his assent and they went back to his hut to retrieve the tablet.  He sat on the bench outside and Shuri activated one of her kimoyo beads to monitor Bucky while he made the call.  Lacey answered quickly and she smiled.
"Hi, Bucky," she said warmly.  "It's been a few days.  Everything okay?"
"Just been really busy," he replied.  "I have a few new baby goats that are taking up my time.  I've been studying more with Shuri.  How are you and Tommy?"
She called to Tommy and while she waited she smiled.  "Really good," she said.  "I've started on my third book ... the writing part finally."
Tommy's face appeared in the screen.  "Hi Dad!" he said.  "Guess what?  I lifted a straw bale today."
"The whole bale?" asked Bucky.
"No, just one end of it," explained Lacey.  "Only about six inches and he put it down right away.  Clint got straw bales in today and Tommy thought he would help.  As soon as Clint saw him he told him to drop it."
Bucky shifted, unsettled by this development.  "Tommy, have you been lifting other heavy things?" he asked, frowning slightly.
He looked at his mother and she tilted her head.  "Yeah," admitted the boy.  "I picked a dead tree up and I rolled some big rocks."
"That's too dangerous," replied Bucky.  "Lacey, you need to watch him better."
"Excuse me?" asked Lacey.  "I'm watching him all the time but he's almost three and there are times when I have to do other things.  He hasn't tried to do anything overtly dangerous."
Bucky gave out a sharp breath.  "All it takes is one slip and he could be trapped," snapped Bucky.  "Then who would get him out of trouble?  You?"
"Yeah, me," replied Lacey, her voice rising.  "I'm the parent who's raising him!  My whole life is watching over him, keeping him safe.  You're sitting in the cheap seats and telling me how to raise my son?"
Bucky was stunned and his face became red.  "You're right," he said angrily.  "I'm not there.  I'm aware of that every moment that I'm here and you're there.  It eats me up inside that I haven't been there for you and Tommy.  All I've been is the sperm donor and that doesn't give me much right to criticize does it?   I'll make it easy for you.  You won't have to put up with me interfering any more.  Goodbye."
He broke the connection, dropped the tablet, looked at Shuri then ran.  "Sergeant Barnes ... Bucky," she called but he was already gone into the distance.
Sitting back Shuri looked at her kimoyo bead that had been monitoring Bucky's functions.  There was something going on and it had affected him emotionally to the point where he turned away from Lacey and Tommy.   She brought up Lacey on her communication bead and saw she was crying.
"Shuri, what's wrong with Bucky?" asked Lacey.  "We just had a fight over the video call and I think he just broke up with me."
"I was here, monitoring him," admitted Shuri.  "He told me he has been troubled by fears that your relationship will never go past these video calls.  After the call he ran away.  Whatever it is, it's real and it has affected him emotionally."
"It's not a failure of the treatment, is it?" she asked.
"No, there was no indication of that," replied Shuri.  "Let me do some more investigating on this end and I will contact you when I find out something.  It will be okay."
Shuri ended the call and then brought up monitoring software asking it where Sergeant Barnes was.  It reported that he was approximately five miles away and was stationary at the moment.  She debated about whether to take a flyer to him or to wait and chose to wait, spending the time analyzing the readings she had taken.  An hour later she saw him approaching from a pathway and stood up.  He hesitated briefly then kept walking towards her.
"I thought you would be gone," he said quietly.  "I messed that up, didn't I?"
"She was crying when I spoke to her after," said Shuri.  "Was it your intention to end the relationship?"
"No, but she's probably better off without me," he answered.  "What good have I been if I can't be with her?"
"You believe that, don't you?" asked Shuri.  "You truly believe that you will never see her in person again.  Never know your son or be there for him."  She looked intently at him then brought up the data of his video call.  "This fear that you feel is coming from the same place as your nightmares but it is deeper than I believed.  It's almost as if you are reacting to stimuli that isn't there, at least not there in a measurable sense."
"So, I'm imagining it," he stated.
"No, I don't think you are," replied Shuri.  "Your senses were greatly increased by the super soldier treatment that you underwent.  Not just the physical senses but your intuitive ones as well.  They are so sensitive that they register that something will happen well before it does.  I think you're experiencing premonitions of a coming event but just the feeling of it, not the event itself."
"Something that will keep me from Lacey and Tommy?" he asked.  "Only death will do that.  Do you think I've been experiencing premonitions of my death, my actual death?"
Shuri took a deep breath and spread her hands in surrender.  "I don't know," she replied.  "Perhaps if you think on it with this perspective you may find some answers.  Whatever it is, it has caused you to fear it."
She took her leave of him and he watched her walk away for some time before he picked up the tablet and entered his hut.  He considered calling Lacey back but decided against it, wanting to wrestle with and control the fear first.   The following day Lacey called him.   After the third pulse of the incoming video call he answered it and felt ashamed when he saw the misery on her face.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.  "I didn't mean to hurt you."
"What's going on?" she asked.  "Something has you on edge.  That wasn't you that was speaking to me that way."
"I've been experiencing an impending sense of doom," said Bucky.  "I don't know how else to explain it.  Shuri thinks my intuitive senses are on high alert from something that hasn't happened yet.  Whatever it is it's made me afraid, mostly that I'll never be with you and Tommy."
"Can it be treated?  I still believe we'll be together someday, for what it's worth."
He smiled slightly.  "It's something I have to work out on my own," he replied.  "It means a lot that you still want me, especially after what I said yesterday.  Don't give up on me, please."
"Never," said Lacey.  "You're stuck with me.  I love you, Bucky."
"I love you, too," he smiled.  "Give Tommy a hug for me.  Tell him I love him."
"I will," said Lacey.
They spoke of other things for several more minutes then ended the conversation.  Bucky slept better that night and on the following morning he got up with a purpose.  There were bags of animal feed that were arriving at the goat paddock.  He would load them onto the cart for transport to the village.  He put his singlet on, then one of his work shirts, buttoning it up with his right hand.  Pulling on his work pants he tucked his shirt in then zipped his pants up.  Then he covered his shoulder unit up with the shawl.  He ate some breakfast then made the mile walk to the paddock.  A couple of the village boys were already there and as he began loading the feed onto the cart they asked him questions.  He answered them as best he could while he tossed the bags into the cart with his one arm.
"Ukumkani," said one of them, jumping down from the tree where he had been perched.
Bucky looked in the direction the boy pointed and saw King T'Challa, General Okoye and two of the King's Guard, one of them carrying a case.  He watched as they approached him and the man with the case put it on top of the feed bags on the cart, opened it and stepped back.  Bucky approached it and saw a prosthetic arm, gunmetal black with a gold design on it.  T'Challa watched, his demeanour apologetic and Bucky knew that he was being asked to defend Wakanda.  When he asked where the fight was the King said it was on it's way.  Bucky nodded and pulled the shawl off exposing the shoulder insert.  T'Challa picked up the arm, approached him, and Bucky watched as the socket portion of the insert opened in readiness for the attachment of the arm.  It clasped on firmly and instantly he could feel it's presence.  Looking at the hand he flexed it open then closed it into a fist.  He looked at the King impassively.
"Let's go," he said and began walking away from the paddock.
"Is there anything you need from your hut?" asked T'Challa.
At first he was going to say no then he hesitated.  "My tablet," he replied.  "My clothes, although they aren't suitable for fighting."
"We have a uniform for you," said T'Challa.  "Something to honour your past."  Bucky gave him a look of alarm.  "Your good past."
After picking up Bucky's things he accompanied T'Challa and Okoye back to the capital.  On the way T'Challa told him what he knew.
"An extraterrestrial attacked New York," he said.  "Iron Man and a sorcerer with an infinity stone were taken into space and haven't been heard from since.  Shortly after another extraterrestrial attacked a being called Vision, who carries the Mind Stone.  He was injured but was rescued by your friends Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and Natasha Romanoff.  They are on their way here for Shuri to find a way to remove and destroy the Mind Stone so that it cannot be used by the being who wishes to have its power, Thanos.  We expect him to attack us to prevent the Mind Stone from being destroyed."
Bucky smirked.  "End of the world stuff," he said.  "At least it's a fight worth fighting."
"That's the spirit," said T'Challa.  "Thank you for answering the call."
"If we don't succeed?" asked Bucky.
"Thanos will kill half of all beings in existence according to someone who had an encounter with him in space," said T'Challa, looking grimly at him.  "High stakes."
They arrived at the palace and Bucky was shown to his previous quarters where a uniform was laid on the bed.  It was modern but he saw it had the colours of his Howling Commandos sniper uniform, a navy jacket with the left arm cut out, black pants and boots.  As he took his work clothes off and began to dress in the uniform he realized he was using the prosthetic arm without even thinking of it.  He looked at it again and the part of him that was interested in technology was impressed.  It was much lighter than the HYDRA arm and although it was distinctive in appearance he found himself liking it much more than he expected.  A knock on the door drew his attention and he opened it to Ayo.
"Sergeant Barnes," she said crisply.  "Our visitors have just landed."
He followed her outside to where T'Challa was greeting Steve and several others.  The blond woman who he recognized as Natasha had just asked how they were looking.  The young King was describing his force then glanced back to see Bucky coming and gestured towards him.  He smiled broadly at Steve, truly happy to see him and they hugged each other.  While Steve, Bruce, Wanda, Natasha, and T'Challa went to the medical centre to find out what Shuri could do with Vision, Bucky stayed outside with the others.  He nodded at Sam, who nodded back then a man in a metal flying suit looked at him.
"Colonel James Rhodes," he said.  "Also known as War Machine."
"Sergeant James Buchanan Barnes," replied Bucky.  "Call me Bucky.  You were on the other side in Leipzig."
"Well, time has a way of changing a man's mind," said Rhodes.  "You're no longer the Winter Soldier?"
"No, I'll never kill another human," said Bucky.  "These guys that are coming?  I won't hesitate."
"Glad to hear it," said Rhodes.
Sam pointed up to the sky and they watched a series of glowing lights approach.   He signalled to Steve that something was coming.  The glowing light hit the protective shield over the city and exploded, preventing whatever it was from landing.  They watched as many more spacecraft burned through the atmosphere to land outside the dome protecting the city.  Within minutes they were on their way to the edge of the dome where thousands of Wakandan warriors had already assembled.  As their group joined them Bucky watched as T'Challa, Steve, and Natasha approached two aliens standing outside the crackling protective shield.  They saw one of the aliens give a signal and the spacecraft expanded.  When Steve returned to his side Bucky asked if the other side had surrendered.  Steve replied cryptically but Bucky got the gist of it.
Thousands of creatures jumped from the spacecraft and ran towards the shield.  No one had ever seen their like before and they watched with uneasy fascination as the creatures threw themselves at the shield.  Many of the monstrous beings died trying to get through the shield before several were successful.  The successful multi-armed creatures with mouths of jagged teeth roared their pleasure at breaking through and began charging the assembled forces.  Bucky took short bursts with his machine gun before grimacing and opening fire completely.  It was noticed that more creatures were circling around the perimeter and T'Challa made the decision to open the barrier to keep them from getting to where Vision was being treated.  As the creatures poured in everyone was surrounded by the nightmare beings, fighting desperately to keep from being overrun.  Bucky's machine gun was knocked from his hands just as he was knocked to the ground.  Grabbing a knife from his thigh sheath he stabbed the creature sending it flying backwards.  Everyone was swarmed by the terrifying beings, overwhelmed by the sheer numbers.  Suddenly a beam of energy broke from the sky sending the creatures tumbling away.  An axe trailing lightning broke from the beam and sliced through the creatures freeing many of the Wakandan force.  When the energy beam cleared the axe returned to the hand of Thor who was accompanied by a walking raccoon and a walking tree creature.
The god roared for Thanos and ran towards the opening in the dome, levitating up into the air and gathering the power of lightning in his axe before redirecting it down into the ground, destroying hundreds of the alien beings in an instant.  Still, they kept coming through the hole in the barrier.  The raccoon creature yelled as he fired his weapon at them.  His roars attracted Bucky's attention as he noticed several of the larger creatures bearing down on the much smaller raccoon.  Picking him up by the collar he turned in a circle, firing his weapon as the raccoon fired his.  When they had both killed their fill Bucky dropped him and the raccoon looked up at him, asking how much the gun was but Bucky replied it wasn't for sale.  Then he asked about the arm and Bucky stared him down before moving on.
From outside the dome another disturbance was tearing through the forest beyond.  Great wheeled machines dove into the ground, undercutting the dome and entering inside.  So devastating were they that the only one who could handle them was Wanda who had left the medical centre to join the fight.  Once she was there an attack was made on Vision inside the medical centre and he came out fighting as best he could.  For a few moments everyone thought they had a chance then Cap called everyone to his position as they all noticed a change in the wind.  Bucky, who was far out on the field began running towards the trees and fired his weapon at a giant of a man who must have been Thanos.   He just pushed Bucky aside as if he was nothing.  He watched painfully from the ground as everyone tried to stop Thanos and failed.  When Thanos plucked the Mind Stone from Vision's head and felt its power rush through him Bucky tried once more to get up but he couldn't.  Thor's axe suddenly came through the air and pierced Thanos' heart but it didn't stop him from snapping his fingers before disappearing into a portal.  Only then could Bucky rise, along with the others.  He felt strange and called out to Steve before seeing his prosthetic arm turn to dust, the processing moving up towards the rest of his body.  His last thought was "It's happening," then he was no more.

how do you imagine Steve and Bucky's first kiss?
oh nonnie! what a wonderful thing to think about <3
(i think there are so so many scenarios for steve and bucky to have their first kiss, and every one is more wonderful than the last. i've read so many great takes on this, and i truly believe there is no right or wrong answer. those boys have such a long timeline and different headcanons or preferences can make their first kiss/getting together moment happen whenever on it. that flexibility is one of my favorite things about this ship!)
i think my personal favorite take on it is this: bucky was in love with steve pretty much the whole time, and steve spent far too long in the dark about the fact that he very much loved bucky back. his realization occurs sometime in the 21st century, probably after sam or nat point it out to him -- subtly or not. this could be during/shortly after catws, but i honestly like to think it was even later.
in my head, steve realizes it during the time bucky is in wakanda and he can't help the way he constantly checks bucky's vitals, and wants to call him every morning and every night. even when he's somewhere deep in hiding, running missions with the others in europe, he can't help the way he yearns to be back in wakanda watching bucky's smile rival the sun in brightness. sam and nat exchange looks, and wanda rolls her eyes. when steve tells them he might be in love with bucky, they can't even feign surprise.
and i don't think steve fears the feeling, or even necessary pines way too hard. somewhere deep down, he knows he and bucky are everything to each other, and he hopes that the way bucky's gazes linger sometime mean he isn't alone in his feelings. but he knows a confession shift would change their dynamic, and that is a bit scary, and more importantly, he knows bucky is still recovering. he prioritizes that over all, over his silly feelings, and he doesn't want to derail bucky's first independence in decades with his own selfishness. so, for a while, he says nothing. he just identifies that the heat he feels blossom behind his sternum at the thought of bucky is very much not platonic, and he wants to kiss the damn lights out of him.
until one day, he does. here's where i have no one (1) answer. it might be a dramatic, arm-swooping, passionate moment as soon as steve steps off of the quinjet after a harrowing mission. it might be a moment of sunset tenderness shared at the lake in wakanda. it might be a playful quip turned into a flirty challenge. hell, it might be a sexy there-was-only-one-bed and someone had a boner moment. but i like to think it was in wakanda. bonus if steve asks to kiss bucky first, because he won't rob him of this choice, too.
i like to think it happened when they finally found each other again. bucky is finally himself, and steve has lost him one too many times. he has a queer-friendly environment and excellent friends that knock some sense into him. bucky wasn't necessarily ever expecting steve to return the love -- he underestimated just how thick steve can be -- but he is obviously more than on board with the turn of events. wakanda is their honeymoon haven.
things that support this idea are content like my fics (1) (2) (3) (4) and my posts (1) (2), and also this fic, which is up there with my favorite stucky fics ever

sketching out an outline/timeline for a fic i'm attempting to make an actual coherent thing, and like....what were the fugitive avengers freakin UP TO for two years?? The only details we get are sam saying he spent two years on the run and Steve and Nat's cool-kid entrance in Infinity War. What kind of international covert fugitive justice action did they get up to? Was Tony helping international agencies hunt their asses down?? What is the timeline of Nat's hair changes???

Bucky Barnes in Wakanda
Random thinking: how was Bucky’s life in Wakanda? How was his daily routine? Did he usually meet up with Shuri? Did king T’Challa also visit?

Battle Prep : White Wolf Headcanon by @tllgrrl aka Nefertiri Jones

Bucky: “Where’s the fight?”
T’Challa: “It’s coming.”
“Okay…but, when is it coming?”
“Soon. Maybe tomorrow, or the day after. Don’t worry Ingcuka Emhlope. You’ll have plenty of time to test this new Vibranium arm—“
“Damn. I’m going to need to book an appointment at the Shop and get my hair right. Can’t be lookin’ like a bum on the battlefield.”
(It doesn’t take White Wolf long to find out he isn’t the only Wakandan warrior trying to book an appointment with their barber or hair stylist before the big battle.)

Okay okay, that Wakanda Bucky imagine was soooooo hella cute 🥺❤️
Would you do a continuation of it where they live happily in the hut and maybe with some smuuuuut ? 🙊 The idea of him in that Hut, all cozy and romantic is not leaving my mind
WAKANDA BUCKY? YES, I will gladly give you more (this can be read as a standalone) There's something about Bucky in Wakanda that's just so soft and comforting to me. That sweet baby with his goats, just living in peace for the first time ever in a place where no one can hurt him. It's also the first place where he can just be himself without the pressure of worrying about anything else.
Just you and him.
He's just so in love with you; his words can only do so much. He wants to make you feel good in the most intimate way possible. He wants to physically give you what words won't translate.
He's nervous though.
He knows you love him for all of his imperfections; there's no doubt you adore every single bit of him. He has no reason to worry about what you'd think.
But this beautiful sweet boy is shy anyway.
Too shy to tell you he wants to make love. Too shy to slip his hands onto your bare skin even though he knows you wouldn't stop him. Too shy to even insinuate he wants more. Ever since you've moved into his hut, he'd wanted you closer. You cuddle every night and he loves the feel of your soft body nuzzled right by his side but its just not enough. He always tells you he loves you and how much you mean to him but it doesn't compare to the way he wants to just melt into you.
He manages to hold his tongue until one night when he just can't anymore. He's cuddled up on your chest while you both lay in his cot and he feels so safe and loved. He wants you now, more than ever. He doesn't even want to take you apart and wreck you; he just wants to love on you softly but he's not even sure if he can, I mean he only has one arm-
"What is it Buck" You whisper, carding your fingers softly through his locks, pushing back the few strands that fell from his half tied hair. "What you thinking about" you let your finger trace over his features, smoothing the crease between his brows that he makes when he's deep in thought. He blushes at you catching his mind in action, blinking with wide eyes before chewing his lip.
"I-
"What is it sweet boy" You continue to let your fingers gently dance over his face and the action makes him purr, leaning for more of your touch.
"I want you"
"You have me baby" You whisper, your heart beating a little faster wondering if he was implying what you were thinking, what you'd been wanting and craving for ages-
"No angel, I want you" He says in earnest hoping you'd understand, "I just-I'm not sure how" He looks down at himself, now afraid to meet your eyes. How could he make you feel good if he only had so much to work with. "I want to make you feel good"
He hesitantly lets his hand slide along your hip up to your waist and slipping under your shirt. The feeling of your bare skin is already so addicting, he starts to work at taking your clothes off as soon as you nod with a needy please. He finds you so unbearably gorgeous when you're naked on his bed and at one point he thinks that might be enough.
Your bare form is everything to him and he'd do anything to worship your more sacred places.
He'd be such a precious baby when it comes to you undressing him. The pink on his cheeks spreads to his ears and he can't help but gush at the way you kiss every scar and freckle on his skin when you let his robe drop to the floor.
"You're perfect" You whisper and he shakes his head because he's nothing in comparison to you. Not with all those angry red lines scattered across his chest, scars covering most of his skin.
"Not like you angel, I'm not-
"You are. Do you have any idea how beautiful you are soldier, how perfect and strong your body is" You don't let him argue, a gasp slipping past his lips when you wrap your hand around his length and start to pump. He's about to protest again because this is about you but he has no idea how long you've been waiting to do this for him.
"Please Bucky" You softly beg and he's an absolute goner when you wrap your hand around his aching length. Just when he thinks it couldn't get any better; your warm soft palm stroking him up and down, you tell him how beautiful and perfect he is and he swears he could cry.
"Look at how pretty you are baby" You coo, perched between his spread legs, leaning over to suckle the tip, humming at the taste, "Can't believe you hid this all from me for so long baby"
"Another-fuck sweets-another night, God I'll cum-you gotta stop" He whines as you release with a pop, your lips covered in his slick. He pulls you to lie down beside him, thinking about all the times he imagined making love to you. Looking into your eyes, letting his body cage you from the rest of the world, just you and him and nothing else.
But it wasn't easy with 1 arm.
"M'sorry baby, I-" Bucky stuttered, feeling unsteady as he hovered above you.
"Lay down for me" You cut off his rambling with a kiss to his lips before letting his head fall against the pillow. "Just wanna feel you Jamie, be close to you" You moan, rubbing your now dripping pussy all over his cock. "Want you inside me"
"Put my cock in you angel" Bucky's feral side made an appearance while he held his length letting you line up with the tip, the both of you gasping at the feeling of him finally pushing into you. "Fuck babydoll, wanted this so bad"
"oh fuck" You threw your head back at the feeling, all the pieces inside you coming together as you sank all the way down making you feel complete. "You feel so good inside me Bucky" You whined, grinding and rocking yourself on his thick length, feeling him in your belly.
"C'mere angel, please" He begged, reaching for you and pulling you causing you to fall onto his chest. He planted his feet and started to thrust up making you cry out. "Wanted to make love to you baby, I-fuck I love you so much, wanna make you feel so good"
"Feels-so-good-hng" You whimpered between thrusts, nipping and sucking bruises onto his neck while he held onto you tightly with his arm. "I'm-so close-
"I'll make you feel good" Bucky groaned, pushing you back up and slipping his hand between your bodies while you leaned back and held onto his thighs. You cried out as he found your clit, moaning louder with you and he toyed with your pussy.
"That feel good baby?" He panted, letting his thumb rub your clit in fast circles, your silky soft bud throbbing against the digit, "You look so pretty with my cock in you angel, cum for me, cum for me pretty girl"
It didn't take long for you to shatter around him, and Bucky followed right behind. He nearly sobbed as you collapse against his chest while he pumped you full of his load, not bothering to pull out long after his cock softened. Cuddling with you with his spent cock warm in your soaked pussy was his favorite part of the night. Nothing was more intimate than the both of you so closely connected, whispering sweet nothings while tangled under the soft sheets, the both of you falling asleep in the warm, cozy air of the hut.

Plans, Chapter 12 - Eyes of the Father
Summary: Steve and Sam visit the farm. Bucky moves to a village in Wakanda.
Length: 3.9 K
Characters: Steve, Lacey, Sam, Clint, Bucky.
<<Chapter 11
🏃🏻‍♂️ 🛖
Iowa, the farm
The sound of a quinjet landing in the yard drew the attention of Lacey, Clint and Laura while they were having lunch. Clint led the way outside and he smiled as the aircraft came to a rest. The ramp came down and two men appeared.
"Well, I was wondering when you were going to show up," said Clint to Steve and Sam as they stepped off the ramp. "You're just in time for lunch."
Laura stepped back inside and made up some extra sandwiches for the men, setting a place for them at the table.
"Just a brief stop," said Steve. "Your FBI minder won't be around today will he?"
"He was here yesterday," replied Clint. "I don't think he would have said anything. He's surprisingly cool with a lot of things despite being FBI."
The two men stepped inside the house and took in the sight of all the kids, with Steve noticing Tommy.
"He's grown," he said to Lacey. "What have you been feeding him?"
"Lots of food," said Lacey. "Good thing my book is doing well and I can afford to feed him. Tommy, this is your Uncle Steve and his friend Sam. Uncle Steve is Daddy's best friend."
Steve kneeled beside Tommy. "How are you doing, buddy?" he asked. "I haven't seen you since you were really little."
"You're Daddy's friend?" asked the little boy.
"Uh huh, since we were kids, not much older than you," replied Steve, then he looked at Lacey. "He knows who Bucky is?"
"We've had several video calls with him," she said. "Sit down and I'll fill you in."
As they sat and ate Lacey filled him in on Bucky's treatment. Then she told him about her mother's death and the incidents at the funeral. He was concerned about that and promised to do his own detective work to find out who was looking for Lacey and Tommy. The biggest surprise to Steve was when Lacey asked Tommy to show him what he could do on the play set. Both Tommy and Nathaniel ran outside to the set where Tommy climbed to the top and jumped off, making Steve lunge to catch him.
"No, I can jump all the way!" protested Tommy, when Steve caught him.
"He's started eyeing the smaller barn," noted Lacey, "so you might as well let him jump off this."
They both watched the boys and Steve shook his head when Tommy did it again, landing easily on his feet. "He inherited Bucky's super soldier abilities," he stated. "Is he a fast runner as well?"
Lacey shrugged and Steve challenged the boy to a race. Although it wasn't as fast as Steve could go it was faster than a normal adult. When Steve scooped him up after a mile Tommy laughed in his arms.
"You're fast, too!" he shouted. "Is my Daddy fast?"
"Very fast, just like you," replied Steve as he ran back to the farm with the boy on his shoulders. He stopped before they got back to the adults and lifted the boy off then kneeled down in front of him. "Tommy, it's very important that you only do the fast running and high jumping on the farm. There are people who would take you away from your Mom if they knew you could do this. Can you promise me that you'll only do it here?"
The boy's face turned serious as he looked Steve in the eyes. "Mom already told me," he said. "Bad people who hurt Daddy would hurt me too if they find out. I liked running with you. Will you come again and teach me more super soldier stuff?"
"Yeah, buddy, I will," replied Steve. "You know if your Dad could be here he would show you everything?"
"I know," answered the boy. "He's getting better."
Suddenly Tommy hugged Steve and received a big hug in return. Steve felt somewhat guilty for not checking in on Lacey and the boy for so long but vowed to be more visible from now on. The boy knew his abilities were not normal and needed guidance on managing them. He stepped back and looked closely at the boy seeing more of Bucky in him since infancy.
"I'll come to visit you when I can," said Steve. "I'll tell you stories about your Dad and me when we were growing up." He stood up and Tommy took his hand as they walked back to where Clint and Lacey were waiting. "I'm going to try and visit more often. Tommy is interested in testing his limits and really, we need to know. He's the first super soldier born naturally."
"That was something seeing you two run off," said Clint. "You won't do that to your Uncle Clint, will you Tommy?"
The boy gave a sly smile and Clint rolled his eyes, realizing he had just given Tommy an idea.
"He won't," interjected Lacey. "Will you, Tommy?"
Her request was followed by a look that only a mother could give and Tommy promised not to run away from Clint. That being settled there wasn't much more to be said so Steve and Sam made preparations to leave. Steve gave both of them a cell phone number where he could be reached. Lacey walked Steve and Sam to the quinjet.
"Have you heard anything from Tony Stark?" she asked. "I know he feels guilty about the whole thing. That play set was part of him making amends to me and Tommy."
"No, nothing yet," said Steve. "It will probably take something really big for him to reach out. That's okay. I'm not going anywhere, other than hiding out."
Sam prepared to enter the quinjet without saying anything and Lacey called him back. "Thank you for helping Bucky. I know that it's cost you."
He sighed. "They would have summarily executed him when he wasn't responsible for his actions," he replied. "I think the decryption of the HYDRA files have proven he was a victim as well. Certainly they could have rescued him a lot sooner. You take care of yourself and that boy. Things will work out. They often do."
Lacey did hug him and he smiled kindly at her. Then she looked up at Steve. Her eyes watered up as she tried to formulate the words but he just hugged her.
"Sam's right," he whispered. "It will work out. I promise I'll come more often. It's been too long since my last visit and that's on me."
She smiled stoically at him and stepped away towards the house as Steve powered the aircraft up and lifted it up into the air. She could see Tommy watching then he started waving and she saw Steve waving back at him from the cockpit. Her son ran up to her and she lifted him into her arms. Together they waved and the aircraft pulled away into the sky.
"I like Uncle Steve," declared Tommy.
"Good," replied Lacey. "He's a good man."
Over the next month Lacey and Tommy continued living with Clint and Laura at the farm. Steve came back once. Bucky made weekly calls and documented his sparring sessions with the Dora Milaje warriors in preparation for the test on the effectiveness of his treatment. She could see he was nervous when the day arrived in which a warrior named Ayo would say the activation words.
"What if she activates me and I become him again?" he said anxiously. "All that work for nothing."
"They wouldn't do it unless they were sure," replied Lacey. "It's not like you'll go on a rampage if the words do work, right? She actually has to command you."
"True, but I couldn't live with myself if I hurt anyone while I was him," he admitted. He breathed heavily for a time then looked up at her. "Here I am worrying about myself and I haven't even asked how you are yet."
"We're good," she replied. "Steve came back again and ran with Tommy. He's so fast Bucky, and he feels so free when he can let go. Steve wants to teach Tommy to box."
Bucky chuckled. "That I would like to see," he smiled. "You know I won the YMCA welterweight championship three years in a row. God, I loved to box. I could have turned pro if it weren't for the war."
"Steve told us that," she replied. "He told Tommy a lot about you, about growing up together, and you looking out for him."
"When I'm done my rehab in the village I plan to come home and turn myself in," said Bucky seriously. "I've been away from you two for too long. It should be me telling him the stories, not Steve. I'm not complaining but he is my son and really, it's my responsibility."
"They'll still put you on trial if you do," said Lacey. "Even with all that the lawyer has uncovered there are still a lot of people who want to make an example of you. If they find you guilty ...."
"Then they find me guilty," repeated Bucky. "At some point I have to stand on my own two feet and face the music. As long as you're in my corner I have the strength to do that." He looked to the side. "They're ready for me. Time for the test. No matter what happens know I love you and Tommy. Someday, we'll be a family, I promise."
"I love you, too," she replied. "You call me as soon as you can. Goodbye, Bucky."
"Goodbye, Lacey," he answered and the connection was broken.
Shuri had already updated Lacey on what would happen to Bucky. He would be transported to a remote location where Ayo would repeat the activation words to him. If he was triggered they would begin again. If he stayed Bucky then he was deemed safe enough to complete his rehab in a small village. For several months at least he would be resident there and learn to live without his arm. Then it would be his choice to receive the artificial arm they designed and built for him.
"His choice?" asked Lacey when Shuri informed her. "Why wouldn't he choose to take it?"
"The arm that was built for Sergeant Barnes when he was HYDRA's captive was meant to be an instrument of death and destruction," replied Shuri. "Despite all the treatment we have given him we have found that he fears any prosthetic arm may be used for the same purpose. Ours will be more naturally shaped, weighted like a natural arm, and with enough sensors in it that he will be able to touch anything gently. It will always be distinctive looking as it is black with gold markings. We will not force him to accept it but it will always be here for him when he is ready to do so."
The day after the test Bucky called her with the news that the treatment had worked and the activation words influence on him was broken. His elation was tempered by the knowledge that he still had more rehabilitation to go but at least now he knew he could be safely around others and reintegrate into society.
Wakanda, the village
The flight to the village took a little longer than Bucky was expecting. Seated in the back of the Royal Talon fighter with Ayo piloting and Shuri in the copilot seat he watched the two women as they flew towards the small village where he would stay for up to six months. He was nervous, having been only in the company of Shuri, Ayo and several other Dora Milaje warriors for the past month. Shuri observed him from time to time as she looked behind her on occasion, as did Ayo.
"You have nothing to worry about, Sergeant Barnes," Shuri reassured him. "The chief knows what you have been through and it was his choice to invite you to live in peace in their community, learning to be whole again. Even though you will be short a limb."
He smiled grimly. "I'm sure I'll be a big help to them," he said, somewhat sarcastically. "I was born and raised in one of the biggest cities in the United States. What do I know about farming?"
"You will learn, White Wolf," stated Ayo. "Just as you learned our fighting style so quickly. You are a quick learner and I'm sure you will master being a farmer. It will be good for your soul."
Bucky thought back to the previous evening when he sat on the floor and tore out the sleeves of the work shirts they provided to him. All three of them were long sleeved with button cuffs and he realized very quickly that would be something he couldn't manage. So, using his feet and teeth to anchor the shirts he cut just below the shoulder seam with a knife and tore the sleeves off. He remembered seeing a patterned shawl left behind in the garden and took it to wrap around his new shoulder insert. Still sensitive about the artificial look of his shoulder he wanted it covered. Again, using his free hand, mouth and feet he was able to knot the ends so he could slip it over his shoulder and cover the unit. Queen Ramonda had seen him with the shawl covering his shoulder and raised her eyebrows at him but said nothing. It was only on the way to the village that he realized the shawl was probably hers. He also received three pairs of work pants and tried them on, managing the zipper and top button alright with one hand. Then he looked at himself in the mirror and shook his head.
"What is it with this generation and tight pants?" he said out loud. "It leaves nothing to the imagination."
Packing everything in a bag with a long strap he had lain awake for some time waiting for a sleep that took forever to come until his bracelet woke him for breakfast. Now, in the back of the Royal Talon fighter he found the motion of the aircraft was slowly lulling him to sleep and he fought to keep his eyes open. Fortunately it was only a few more minutes before they dropped into the village drawing a crowd of people around the aircraft when it finally hovered and landed. A man, who Bucky assumed was the chief, waded through the crowd of people and asked everyone to step back for the Princess. Smiling broadly she got out of the copilot seat, then down the ramp, and greeted the chief then turned to Bucky and introduced him in Wakandan.
"Do not worry, Sergeant Barnes, Chief Thembeka speaks English," she said. "The formal introduction was done in Wakandan as is our custom."
The chief crossed his closed fists in front of his chest so Bucky did the same with his one arm, garnering a nod of respect from those nearby.
"Sergeant Barnes, also called White Wolf," began Thembeka. "Welcome to our village. We hope that you find peace during your stay with us. For now we will host a small feast in your honour. After you may retire to your hut and make yourself comfortable. Your home is small but it is yours and yours alone. Wi-Fi is available in the huts for any internet searching or personal video calls you may wish to make. Tomorrow you will begin your work."
"May I ask what you have planned for me?" asked Bucky.
The chief smiled mysteriously. "You may ask but the answer will not be evident until tomorrow," he said with finality.
He attended the feast and when it was over bade goodbye to Shuri and Ayo. Picking his bag up he was shown to his hut and he pulled aside the curtain which covered the only entrance into it. It was small; a bed, desk, small kitchen, and a bathroom with a shower he could barely fit into. A small closet with a set of drawers beside it was soon filled by his clothes. He laid back on the bed and looked up into the thatched roof of the round structure. Gazing around the walls he saw various animal skins and assorted gourds mounted on the wall. The sound of giggling got his attention and he looked up to see three painted faces peering at him from just outside the doorway. Raising himself from the bed he walked towards the door but the three children ran away and he smiled gently at them. Picking up the tablet he sat outside on a bench just beside the door. Opening the video call app he touched the last call he made to Lacey and her face soon appeared.
"Hi!" she said, then she looked at the wall behind him. "You look like you're in front of a hut. Does that mean you're in your village?"
"Yes, just arrived today," he said. "Let me show you my hut."
He picked up the tablet and turned it around aiming it at the various parts of his home for the next while. Then he returned to the bench and sat looking at her. She called to Tommy who joined her.
"Hi Daddy," he said breezily. "Guess what? I jumped off the small barn today. How high was that Mom?"
"About 20 feet," said Lacey. "He landed on some hay bales that Clint was going to haul up to the loft. He helped Clint get them up there."
"How did it feel?" asked Bucky, trying not to be concerned. "Did it hurt at all when you landed?"
"No, it was fun," said Tommy. "How high can you jump?"
"Pretty far," admitted Bucky. "But I'm also a grown up and I have bigger legs and muscles than you. Promise you won't go higher than the barn for a while?"
"Okay," agreed Tommy then he looked directly at Bucky. "Daddy, when are you coming home?"
He took in a quick breath as the question had taken him by surprise. "I have to stay here for a few more months then I'll be free to leave here, I hope," he answered. "I want to come home and if the people in charge let me that's what I'll do."
"Can you come for my next birthday?" asked Tommy. "Please?"
"I'll try, I really will," said Bucky, trying to keep the emotion down in his throat. "But I probably won't make it until after. Can I talk to your Mom, now, please? I'm sure you want to play."
"Okay, I love you Daddy," said Tommy, unprompted.
"I love you, too, son," said Bucky, who waited for Tommy to leave before he put the tablet down and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand.
"You okay?" asked Lacey when he reappeared on the screen. "I didn't know he was going to ask that. He's been asking questions about how we met and how we made him. He sees how Clint is with Nate and that has him wondering why you're not here."
"You know I would be there if I could," stated Bucky. "There's nothing I want more. I'm serious about turning myself in as soon as I'm done here. I've been away too long. Can you let that lawyer know that's my plan?"
"I'll tell him," replied Lacey. "This might be the hardest months for both of us. When you do get here how do you want to handle ... us?"
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Should we take some time together and get to know each other first?" she queried. "Go on some dates or do we jump into a relationship right away? I do love you but I really don't know you, do I?"
"No, we don't," admitted Bucky. "These on screen conversations aren't really the same as being together are they? One night together really isn't enough to base a serious relationship on."
He looked down at the ground and took a deep breath, obviously disappointed. "Bucky, until we actually see each other we just don't know for sure," stated Lacey. "We can go away together, rent a cabin or something, separate bedrooms and see what happens. That's the grown up way of doing it."
"You're right," he replied. "Let's do that and see where it leads. I don't want to pressure you into something that may or may not exist. But you'll still wait for me until then, right? You're not seeing anyone?”
"No, I'm not seeing anyone," she told him then she smiled. "I'm still on the farm and I get into town about once a month to pick up my mail with Clint. The book is still selling, approaching the end of the second printing so I'm still getting fan mail."
He was relieved to hear it as for a brief moment he thought she was letting him down easy. "In a best case scenario I want a relationship with you," he declared. "I want it all – marriage, a house or a farm, kids. If that isn't meant to be then I want a friendship and to be part of Tommy's life."
"That's my best case scenario also," she agreed. "I have faith in both of us Bucky, even if I do have doubts once in a while. I just wanted it to be out there so that we're not blindsided if it doesn't work."
"Fair enough," he said, then looked at her and smiled. "So you won't mind if I tell you I still think you're beautiful and that I think of that night often."
"I don't mind at all," she answered. "I think of it as well. You're still the most handsome man I've ever met." She looked at him steadily before taking her own deep breath. "This seems like a good time to end our call. Call me as often as you can. I do love you."
"I will and I love you too," he said, then he ended the call.
He sat back against the outside wall of the hut and put the tablet on the bench. Closing his eyes he breathed deeply.
"Are you alright, White Wolf?" said a child's voice.
He opened his eyes to see the three boys with painted faces standing in front of him, all of them with a look of concern on their face. "Just feeling a little sad," he explained. "My son is in another country and I've only ever seen him on this." He lifted up the tablet. "I want to be with him but I have to stay here in your village for a while to prove I can live like a civilized man."
"Is his mother with him?" asked one of the boys. "Do you miss her too?"
"Yes, I miss her," replied Bucky. "I want to be with her as well. What are your names?"
They laughed and ran away, leaving him shaking his head. He would have to ask if it was taboo to know children's names. What was with calling him White Wolf? No one had explained what that was about. So many questions and he wasn't sure who he could ask for answers. This was going to be a long six months.

Diplomatic incident - (2023)
- I'm very flattered and I know it's a present, but...I'm not really sure about the outfit and...
- Tututu. Exactly, it's a PRESENT. From Princess Shuri HERSELF, so you got nothing to want. Or d'you want to create a diplomatic incident? ANOTHER ONE ? Alienating the whole U.N. wasn't enough, you wish to add to the list the only country that's willing to help us? Pfff, you are just feeling self-conscious because a couple of kids told you "Hi, Jesus, can you multiply our sandwiches?" when we were visiting the town this morning
The artwork you voted for in last month's polls (ship and trope). Thank you so much to @vegetadaily for taking care of the beta in spite of her super busy schedule. 💗

Black Panther - Post Credit Scene
Summary: Bucky comes out of the ice.
Pairing: Avengers x F!Reader, Bucky Barnes x F!Reader
Warnings: Nothing really for this one, maybe language. Mostly fluff. My poor attempts at being funny.
Word Count: 1.8K
A/N: I want to specify that I used google translator for the Xhosa, so I hope it's at least decent, but I thought it would be cute to put it in there. I've had this ready to go for WEEKS and I'm so glad I finally get to post it! I hope you like the idea of a reunion like this as much as I do! Enjoy!

You’ve been on the run for a year now with Steve, Sam and Natasha. A few weeks after you all escaped the Raft, Clint and Scott decided to make a deal with Ross to get house arrest because being on the run and away from their families was too hard for them.
The five of you that remained went from safe house to safe house while doing as many missions as you could, never staying in one place too long and still trying to help people to the best of your capabilities, with Wanda disappearing from time to time to spend time with Vision.
Lately, though, you’ve been noticing Steve’s been a little fidgety, even disappearing here and there for a couple of days at a time.
You want to ask him what’s going on, but you don’t want to be nosy so you wait for if and when he’s ready to talk about it.
And that time comes one random afternoon as you’re all sitting around in the living room of the safe house you’re in, Wanda being off with Vision.
“Hey, can I talk to you?” He sits next to you and you nod, putting down your book to give him your full attention. “I know you’ve all been wondering where I go every now and then, and I’m glad you didn’t push it. But I’m ready for you guys to know now.”
He addresses everybody before turning to you and looking straight in your eyes as he finishes. “Bucky’s awake.”
Your breath hitches in your throat and you can’t seem to find it in you to say anything more than “Oh.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner...” He looks actually sorry. “We just thought it would’ve been better to keep it as lowkey as possible.”
You nod and look at the floor, trying not to show your disappointment.
It makes sense. After all Steve is his best friend, his brother, his only family. You’re barely an acquaintance.
Right?
“He asked about you.” your eyes snap back to him. “He wanted you to be there, but he understood. He’s glad you’re safe.”
“From the government or from him?” you mumble and Steve gives you an apologetic look, but lets it go.
“The thing is, I kind of need to ask you a favor.” you narrow your eyes at him and he raised his hands in surrender. “It’s nothing bad, I swear!”
“Fine,” you sigh. “What do you want?”
“It’s just, the mission we’ve been planning is important…” he looks at the plans and footprints on the table. “And only three of us are needed for it.”
You think you see where this is going. “You want me to take over your part of the mission?!” you look at him like he grew three heads. How the hell can you take on the role of a supersoldier?
“No, of course not. That’s the thing.” he quickly clarifies. “I can’t be spared for this, and we know the mission is gonna last a while.”
“Where are you going with this, Rogers?” you’re just confused now.
“Could you look after Bucky for me?”
Oh. You try hard not to look too excited about the prospect of seeing Bucky again and spending time with him.
“Are you… sure that’s a good idea?” you ask him as coolly as you can.
“It’s not gonna be hard. You just need to keep an eye on him from a distance.” good thing you managed your expectations. “Shuri’s gonna be working with him and, when he’s ready, she’ll let you talk to him.” Okay, you’re excited again.
“Uhm,” you have to at least pretend to think about it, right? “I guess, if I’m not needed on the mission and you are, I could do you this favor.”
You fight a smile as you make the mistake to look at Sam, that’s grinning, knowing full well how you feel about Bucky. You groan and roll your eyes, but he says nothing, thankfully.
“Thank you.” Steve lays a hand on your arm and smiles at you. “This means a lot to me.”
“I know.” you smile back, then hug him.
“Okay,” he says as you let go “we’re leaving tomorrow morning.”
You nod and get up to finish packing the bag you were getting ready for the mission in a few days.
After you’re done, you go back to the living room to spend one last night with Sam, Steve and Nat as you don’t know how long it’s gonna be before you see them again.
The next morning you wake up thankful you’re not hungover and get your stuff with Steve’s into the jet, Sam and Nat accompanying you out to say the last goodbyes.
“I’ll miss you.” you tell Nat as you hug her “Please don’t cut your hair again while I’m gone.”
“I’ll try not to.” she laughs, hugging you back. “I’ll miss you too, Crazy.”
“Try not to miss me too much.” Sam tells you as he hugs you too, making you roll your eyes with a smile.
“Sure, birdbrain.” He groans at the nickname “Be careful.”
He nods and, after they say goodbye to Steve too, the two of you board the quinjet and make your way to Wakanda.
You are met by Princess Shuri and King T’Challa himself. You hug Steve goodbye as he makes his way to visit Bucky before his mission and to tell him he probably won’t be coming by again for a while.
Shuri and T’Challa, who insisted you drop their formal titles, give you a tour of the palace and then take you to a guest room that’s basically a suite, and you’re shocked to find out you’ll be living here in the palace for the duration of your stay.
As promised you look after Bucky from a distance.
Every morning you and Shuri get escorted to Bucky’s hut where she works with him on his deprogramming as you and Ayo hang back.
Other than making sure he’s okay, there’s not really much for you to do so you take this time to get to know the people. It astonishes you how easy you get welcomed by the community.
You’re taught their customs by the locals, you pick up some Xhosa, not a lot but enough to have conversations and you’re even taught to fight by the Dora Milaje. Mostly Okoye and even Ayo since the two of you cleared the air after the whole airport fight.
She apologized profusely about the wound she inflicted in your arm, which has been fully healed for months now, and you assured her it was okay. You understood she was simply doing her job and admired her passion and determination to protect her king.
Also, it turns out you broke a couple of her ribs, which you also apologized for, so you two decided to just call it even.
You got comfortable fast; dressing with their clothes, participating in their festivities and playing around with the children everyday as Shuri does whatever she does with Bucky.
You’re always careful to not get too close to be seen while still being close enough to keep an eye on them.
After their sessions Shuri always brings you up to speed and then you report to Steve to let him know Bucky’s doing good.
You’re making your way to Shuri’s lab where you’ve met her everyday for the couple of months that you’ve been in Wakanda.
“Good morning, Princess.” you tell her, bowing when you stop in front of T’Challa. “My King.”
“Stop that.” he swats at you as both you and Shuri laugh.
“Ready to go?” Ayo asks and you eye her suspiciously as she’s grinning like she does right before she makes a move that instantly knocks you on your ass during training.
“What are you up to?” you ask her but she just keeps on smiling.
“Today is the day, Agent.” Shuri tells you as smirks, knowing how you feel about the nickname.
“I’m not an agent of anything.” you roll your eyes, then register what she just said. “Wait, what do you mean, today’s the day?”
“Sergeant Barnes is ready.” she says and you can’t help the smile that comes to your face, which falls with a groan when you see them all smirking at each other at your reaction.
“Let’s just go.” you say as you turn around and start walking with Shuri and Ayo.
“Have fun!” T’Challa yells after you.
“Your order is my command, Your Highness!” you yell back and you all laugh at the loud groan he lets out.
As always, Shuri gets closer while you and Ayo hang back and she walks to the shore of the lake in front of the hut and then stops there.
You see three kids run out of Bucky’s hut, laughing, and the princess turns around as they run up to her and hug her.
“Are you playing around with that man again?” she asks, laughing. “You’re teasing him again.” she keeps teasing them as they chant ‘no’ between laughter and you can’t help but smile.
Bucky exits the hut and, like every other day, he takes your breath away. His sun-kissed skin, his Wakandan robes, his growing beard and the longer hair. The whole style just suits him.
You see him take a deep breath and then he gets closer to Shuri as the children run towards you giggling about the “Ingcuka Emhlophe”. [White Wolf]
“Uyayithanda Ingcuka Emhlophe?” you ask them. [You like the White Wolf?]
“Yena engaqhelekanga” one of the kids says and you laugh. [He’s strange]
“Kutheni ephulukene nengalo nje?” another one asks you. [Why is he missing an arm?]
You aren’t sure what to say, they are children after all, but you try your best.
“Kuba uyindoda ekhaliphileyo eyathi yenzakala xa inceda abantu.” [Because he is a brave man that was injured while helping people]
They all look at him in awe just as you hear Shuri say, “Sergeant Barnes.”
“Bucky.” he corrects her and you smile.
“How are you feeling today?” she asks him.
“Good. Thank you.” she smiles and motions towards you.
“Come. Much more for you to learn.” she says as she starts walking.
He takes a second to look out at the lake before following Shuri, but as soon as he spots you, he stops.
He stares as you’re giggling with the children that are now circling around you and dancing, and when you look towards Bucky again his eyes are already on you.
You blush a little at his intense gaze but he seems to snap out of it when your eyes meet his and he gets closer until he’s right in front of you.
“Sergeant.” you say, smirking.
“Doll.” he says, smirking back.
You smile at each other until Shuri clears her throat and you turn to look at her just to see both her and Ayo with a smirk of their own. You roll your eyes at them, but your smile stays on.
“Shall we?” Shuri says and starts walking, Ayo right behind her.
Bucky takes your hand and starts walking after Shuri too, pulling you with him, both of you feeling like nothing could wipe the smiles off your faces.
