———————————————————————————
You wake up to loud banging on your door and yelling.
“YOU BRAT!! GET OUT HERE RIGHT NOW!” Steve yells.
You giggle at his anger. You get up and open the door swiftly with a smirk.
“What’s wrong Cap? Couldn’t sleep?”
“What is wrong with you?! Why can’t you just be a quiet nerd that does what she’s told to do? Why can’t you follow simple orders? Why must you always create problems?!”
“Geez Cap, I always took you for a morning person. Who’s got your panties in a twist?”
“Cut that out right now! I know it was you! This never happened until you showed up. What did you want to achieve from this?”
“I’m not property. I am not a soldier. As Tony said, I’m a cyberpunk. A simple ‘Thank you for saving my life’ would have been nice. You’re too high strung and refuse to admit that you were wrong and I was very right for interfering. I will not be your puppet. I am my own person, whether you like it or not! I may be a part of this team, against my own will, but that doesn’t mean you can bark orders at me like a dog!”
“GAH! you’re unbelievable!” Steve says as he stomps away.
You snort and roll your eyes. You head to the kitchen and living room to grab some breakfast; not like you were going to fall back asleep now anyway.
As you walk in you see a certain blue-eyed brooding super soldier sitting at the kitchen island, sipping on coffee.
Your heart skips a beat but you ignore it and walk nonchalantly to the coffee machine.
“Good morning.” you say politely.
Bucky doesn’t reply but you can feel his eyes boring into your back. You turn around slowly and sip on your coffee, staring back at him. You’re not that easily intimidated.
Bucky snorts as a smirk pulls at the corner of his mouth. “You’re something else you know that? Nobody has ever angered Steve like you have.”
“Nobody has treated me as poorly as he has”
Bucky sighs “Give him a chance. He doesn’t understand how to use the TV remote half the time. He’s scared. he doesn’t know how to guide you and lead you during missions. He’s lost when it comes to modern age technology and it’s frustrating him.”
You stare at him as you consider what Bucky has told you.
“Regardless, his behaviour towards me is ridiculous. Considering he’s from the 40’s I expected a bit more chivalry and respect from him. I will make it clear as much as I can and as many times as needed that I am not his dog that he can bark orders at. End of conversation.”
“Wow this generation has really raised some ballsy women.” He says while shaking his head with a smile.
“Is that a problem old man? Want me to be little miss submissive? Running to you every night with a fresh meal on the table and do everything at your bidding?” you reply in a mocking voice.
Bucky gets up from the bar stool and walks towards you, he gently lowers his elbows on the kitchen island and stares at you directly in your eyes.
“That’s not what I meant and you know it. Honestly, I respect you the most out of everyone. You came here, alone and scared, and you still stand your ground, no matter the consequences. You’re confident and self-assured. They underestimated you.”
Your tongue is caught in your throat. His blue eyes are stormy. You swear you can see admiration and pride in his eyes but you quickly look away before you let your body take over and do what you really want to do to him. This is strictly professional. No emotions, you promised yourself.
You clear your throat and back up a bit “I um - i’m going to go to my office and do some stuff…alright bye.” You stammer as you quickly run off before he can stop you.
Unbeknownst to you, Bucky watches you runaway with a smile on his face and his heart beating so fast. He can’t remember the last time he’s felt like this for someone. He just met her and feels like he’s known her forever.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You run to your office and sit on your chair abruptly. You dim the light, close the shades and turn on the purple LED lights. You let out a long breath you didn’t realize you were holding in. You embrace the calming atmosphere of your office as you begin to work.
You check your emails and notice a slew of small jobs Tony has delegated to you. Hacking into some servers to retrieve some sensitive information; nothing you haven’t done before. You put your headphones on and blast some music to drown out any background noise and help you focus on finishing the task at hand.
As you’re working through your to do list, you didn’t realize how fast time flew by. The once early morning sun has now set into the late evening. You’re continuously tapping away on your keyboard, your eyes glued to the screens in front you. You’re so hyper focused you don’t realize someone is watching you from the doorframe of your office.
Suddenly you feel a hand squeeze your shoulder. You shriek so hard that your headphones fly off your head and you leap so high out of your chair that it flips over, making you fall backwards to the ground. As you’re trying to get back up, you look to the culprit and see Steve scrambling to help you up. He grabs you by your arms and pulls you up in one swift motion, all while apologizing profusely.
“Oh god I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you, are you ok? I was calling your name but you couldn’t hear me so I tried to get your attention.” Steve rambles while analyzing you, looking for injuries.
You sigh a breath of relief and rub your head, already feeling a bump forming from the fall.
“It’s fine Steve. What do you want?” you answer coldly.
“Look, I wanted to apologize. I’m really sorry for how i’ve been acting. I don’t understand a fraction of what you do or how you do it and I have no idea how to lead you through the missions. I was frustrated and took it out on you. It’s not right and I’m sorry.” Steve says, blue eyes boring into yours, swirling with pleading sadness, begging to be forgiven.
“I get it Steve. I do, and I accept your apology. However, you understand that I don’t need guidance right? The internet, hacking, technology in general is my life. All I need from you is to lead, to tell me what to do and when and I’ll do it but if there is something else that I can do to help the team further or save you, I will do it. Whether you like it or not, I know the consequences of my actions and I know what I’m doing. I trust you. The real question is, do you trust me?”
“I— I do. I will. from now, I will trust you and your instincts. I promise. You’re part of the team now and I will treat you as an equal like I treat everyone else.”
“Good. Thank you for being honest with me and clearing this up. Let’s start over.”
“Deal. Thank you Y/N.”
“Just don’t piss me off again or I’ll make it way worse for you than a few simple alarms and blaring red lights in your room as payback.” you smirk at him and wink.
He rolls his eyes and smile “Understood, scouts honour.” He salutes you jokingly and walks out with a quick goodbye.
You decide to call it a night and close up your office for the day. You walk to the kitchen and realize you haven’t eaten all day.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you reach the kitchen and start making yourself a quick sandwich you hear footsteps approaching you.
“Hey there Cyberpunk, what are you up too? You disappeared all day today.” Bucky says as he sits next to you on a kitchen bar stool.
“I was working on some things Tony needed. I didn’t realize how time flew by. I haven’t eaten yet so i’m just making a quick snack.”
“You didn’t take a single break? How did you not eat, drink, go to the bathroom?…” Bucky looks at you with a concerned look.
“Um, no, not really. I tend to get really hyper focused on my tasks, especially when my brain is in overdrive. It’s kind of like a coping mechanism. I escape into my own cyber world and I don’t leave until my body basically wakes me up.” You say nonchalantly.
“Well, not anymore. Not on my watch.”
“Huh? What do you mean?” you ask while giggling.
“I have decided to make it my job to make sure that you’re taking enough breaks, eating, drinking water, going outside for some fresh air…”
“You don’t have to do that. I like my little cyber-cave. It’s my space, it’s fine.”
“Doll, you are stubborn.” he chuckles to you as he playfully pushes his shoulder against yours.
You reply with a scoff as you finish making your snack.
"You're too cute to treat yourself like this. Let me take care of you for a bit, I want to help."
You stare at him in disbelief.
Is he... flirting with me? There's no chance James Buchanan Barnes is flirting with me. He's just being nice to me. With women like Natasha around him, there is no way he would even look my way. I'm a freaking nerd, a computer geek that stays indoors all day and hides from the world through the internet. The other women in the compound are gorgeous with the perfect bodies to match. I'm not exactly the most fit, I can't even jog for more than 10 seconds without my lungs hurting. I dress is loose comfortable clothes, my hair is always in either a messy bun or air dried to let its natural pattern go free. I put minimal makeup at most because I'm alone indoors all day. Remember, no emotions. It's all in your head. Focus Y/N. He is just being polite and welcoming as you're a new team member.
Your thoughts are running a mile a minute as Bucky is looking into your eyes, waiting for an answer. You must have been staring at him for too long because Bucky asked you if something was wrong.
"No I um - i'm good. Just exhausted. Long day. Thanks for keeping me company for a bit. I have to go now, bye." you say awkwardly as you grab ur plate of food and scurry to your room.
"Hey, wait where are you going?" Bucky questions as he sees you run off.
You ignore him and quicken your pace. Your heart is racing. You reach your room and close the door behind you as you let out a huge sigh of relief.
Why am I so awkward? Why can't I just have a normal conversation with him? He's too damn gorgeous thats why. How can I not be attracted to him? He's built like a greek god with these captivating blue eyes and that dark hair that you just want to run your fingers through - stop it. No no no stop that right now. If you develop a crush on him, you will only get hurt. You're being delusional. He doesn't like you. Look at yourself.
You stare at yourself in the mirror.
What could he possibly be attracted to? The dark circles under my eyes? My messy hair? My loose fitting clothes that give me no shape whatsoever? It's not like my body is perfect either. I have stretch marks, I'm not fit, I don't have abs by any means, my arms are not muscular or toned, my thighs are large.... I do have a nice ass and some great boobs, I will admit.
Bucky is a man that goes for super model type women. Not computer nerds that eat take out almost religiously and never leave their computer chair except to go to the bathroom. I think the most steps i've done in an entire day is 500. Who am i kidding? Why am I doing this to myself? Just stop. Focus on work, nothing else. This will only lead to more and more heartbreak that I just can't take anymore.
There is so much they don't know about me. They can't know. I've worked so hard to erase it from the world all together, to make myself disappear into thin air, to hardly exist. I know Tony is probably trying to deep dive into my past and find some trace of who I am and where I'm from but I know I've gotten rid of it all years ago and I plan on keeping it that way.
Start of flashback
You're hiding under your desk in your room, shaking as you hear your parents screaming at each other in the kitchen. You had accidentally dropped a plate and it crashed to the floor, pieces flying everywhere which had caused your father to erupt in a rage. He stalked towards you as a slew of insults that have been repeated to you over the years flew from his mouth: worthless, stupid, waste of life, ugly. You name it, he said it.
Taking out his anger on you, leaving you no chance to breathe until your mother pried his hands off of you while screaming for him to stop. As soon as he let go of you, you had run to your room where you're now hiding. You can feel the blood leaking from your nose and lip, one eye almost shut so tight you can hardly see out of it. You grabbed your phone and dialed 911 - terrified as to what your father might do, especially if he found out you had called the cops on him. The first responder tells you to stay where you are and keep the phone open. As you're about to reply, your door swings open and your father storms in. He rips you out from your desk and drags you to the kitchen again. You're too scared to even scream or cry.
He throws you to the floor, on the pieces of glass that remained on the floor from the broken plate you had dropped. The shards cut your hands and knees and crush into your skin. All you can do is lay there and pray that the first responder heard the scene unfold and sent police officers to your address. You're waiting to be saved, you feel helpless as always, you just want to get out.
You watch as your father punches your mother unconscious. You watch in fear as he approaches you and laughs. He tells you that this is all your fault. You watch him pull out his gun and point it as your mother who is laying on the floor lifeless. You scream as you lunge towards him to stop him but it was too late. The shot resonated throughout the tiny apartment with a sharp thud as you jumped him.
You wrestled him with all your might, grabbing a shard of glass from the floor and stabbing it into his thigh. He screamed in agony and cursed at you, punching you hard and sending you flying across the floor. You scramble to get up as you watch him point the gun to you this time. You make a split second decision and duck as you tackle his waist and force him to the ground. Wrestling again, you manage to grab the gun that is pointed at you and turn it the other way, facing your fathers chest directly. You look him in the eye as you tell him that his reign of terror has ended and you pull the trigger. You keep pulling the trigger until you hear the gun click.
You get up and look at yourself, covered in blood. Your father’s lifeless body laying there in a pool of his own blood. You hear the sirens and realize what you've done. You have to get out, now.
You grab everything you can and you run. You wash your hands, arms and chest in a pond in the forest you ran into and changed your clothes. Grabbing a pair of scissors in your bag you cut your hair to change your appearance. You take one look back at your apartment, now covered with flashing red and blue lights. You turn around and head into the forest, never looking back again.
You had found yourself in a homeless shelters for 4 years. Continuously dying your hair different colours and moving around from shelter to shelter. You had to because you were too recognizable, with a deep scar slashing across your lip and multiple scars littering the plans of your hands- a final gift from your father. When you couldn’t find a new shelter to stay at, the alleys outside were your best bet. Stealing food from trash cans and people’s lunches when they weren’t paying attention is how you survived. Keeping your appearance hidden and constantly different is how you evaded the cops. You were a missing person and a person of interest in the case of your parents. You had to get out of here to make it out alive. You decide to hop on a train and never look back.
When you woke up to the train halting to a stop. You look outside and realize you’re now in New York. You jump off the train and make your way to the city.
One day, at another random shelter, you met someone who ended up teaching you your way around computers. One thing led to another and you were a cyber whiz with an online community, making money off of rich assholes by hacking into their bank accounts and stealing some money they would never even notice was missing. You managed to get yourself a small shitty apartment, but you welcomed it as anything is better than the streets and shelters.
Once you were settled in a makeshift homb- the same home which the Avengers gracefully kidnapped you from - you decided you had to find a way to kill the old you and let the new you stay hidden.
You figured out a way to erase yourself from the world. You hacked into the government system and erased all documents pertaining to you; your birth certificate, medical records, dental records, school enrollments; everything. You manufactured one item and left it in the system for good measure; a death certificate. Nobody would search for a dead girl.
End of Flashback
You don't notice that you've sunken to the floor, shaking as you bring your knees up to your chest. Sobbing quietly as the horrific memory haunts your mind. You beg to whoever and whatever is listening to you for forgiveness. You beg to have your life taken from you. Your fathers dying words replaying in your mind forever: Worthless, stupid, waste of life.
Maybe he's right.
You hold yourself tighter as you continue crying, balled up on the floor until you fell asleep from exhaustion.

“Are you ready, Kitten?” Bucky purred in Steve’s ear as he clasped the collar around the blond’s neck. “Do you remember what to say if you want to stop?”
Steve nodded, “Yankee.”
Bucky kissed Steve’s neck where it met his shoulder, “Good boy.”
Bucky walked around Steve and admired his boy for a moment. The deep purple rope tied Steve’s arms behind his back and the same colored panties accentuated the younger man’s ass. The front of the panties cradled his cock and balls, which compared to Bucky are small. The thick, black collar with flat circular studs was clasped tight around Steve’s neck without constricting his breathing. Bucky attached the leather leash to the O-ring at the front of Steve’s collar. He wrapped it around his hand, shortening the length which caused Steve to stumble forward.
“My Kitten. My Good Boy.” Bucky captured Steve’s lips in a steamy kiss. “Doin’ everything Daddy tells ya, huh?”
Steve’s eyes glazed over as he nodded, “Yes, Daddy.”
Bucky licked his lips as he let the leash slowly unravel from his hand. “Are you ready to give everyone a show? Let all those people out there know that you’re Daddy’s good boy?”
“Yes, Daddy.” Steve’s eyes rolled back as Bucky cupped his rapidly hardening dick.
“Then let’s go show them.” Bucky grabbed the end of the leash and gently pulled, a signal for Steve to follow him. The dom led his sub out of the dressing room and through the hallway that led to the main club area.
The club, The Cave, had couches along the perimeter walls with tables every six feet that people can use for anything. Some doms put their subs on the tables for everyone to see as they play with them, something Bucky is about to do with Steve.
Bucky led Steve to the table where some of their friends were. Nat and her sub Clint, Sam and his partner Riley, and Tony, Pepper and their sub Peter. Bucky told Steve to lean over the table which caused his ass to be higher than his chest, the perfect height for Bucky to play with him. Once Steve was bent over the table, Bucky grabbed the spreader bar he had Nat hold for him and attached the cuffs to Steve’s ankles, forcing his legs far apart. Bucky chose a pretty long one on purpose because he wanted Steve spread for what Bucky had planned.
A small crowd started gathering when they saw Bucky and Steve. The two men were popular around the club because of the demonstrations they do on a regular basis. Bucky reached into his pocket and pulled a small bottle of lube and a plug, the latter of which he held in front of Steve’s mouth. “Open.” Bucky commanded. Steve, being the good boy, opened his mouth and moaned when the plug was placed in his mouth. “Get that all nice and wet for Daddy.”
Steve sucked the plug as if he was sucking Bucky’s dick. Without the use of his hands, since they were tied behind him, Steve had to use the table to his advantage. He turned his head so he could balance the flat end of the plug on the table and bobbed his head. The mock blow job was sloppy with the strange angle Steve had but goddammit if he wasn’t going to be a good boy for his Daddy.
“That’s my boy.” Bucky gripped the side seams of the purple lace panties and ripped them causing Steve to moan in protest. “Don’t worry your pretty little head, Kitten. I’ll buy you more.” Bucky flipped the cap of the lube bottle and drizzled lube between Steve’s cheeks. Bucky’s thumb spread lube all around the sub’s hole before dipping in. “God, Kitten. This hole’s just suckin’ me in. Does it want to be filled? You get that plug nice and wet?” Steve nodded. Bucky reached around and grabbed the plug.
Strings of saliva connect the plug and Steve’s bottom lip. Bucky wiped the excess saliva on Steve’s cheek and then placed the tip of the plug against the younger man’s hole. The plug itself was smaller girth wise than Steve usually takes but length wise it would just graze his prostate. He also told Bucky he wanted minimal prep so he felt the burn and Bucky agreed but only if a thin plug was used. He didn’t want to hurt Steve in an unpleasant way.
“Alright, gonna fill you now. Remember, use your safeword if you need to Kitten.”
“Yes, Daddy.”
Steve groaned as the plug slid into his hole. He squirmed at the burn but a slap to his ass from Bucky made him stop. That was Bucky’s way of warning him to be still so he didn’t hurt himself. Steve gasped as the whole plug slid home. The tip just grazed Steve prostate and when Bucky pushed his palm against the base of the plug, the tip pressed on that special button inside Steve.
“Yeeessss, Daddy.” Steve moaned and tried to rock against Bucky. The older man pulled his hand away and grabbed Steve’s shoulder so he was standing. Steve forgot that the spreader bar was still attached to his ankles and stumbled when he tried to take a step back to press against Bucky.
“Oh, baby. Did you forget about the bar? Ya get that hole filled and just forget everything else, huh? Just a slut aren’cha?” Bucky teases. His hands slid to the front of Steve’s body and tweaked the sub’s nipples. Those small buds felt like they were connected straight to Steve’s dick when Bucky dug his nails into them. Steve’s nipples have always been sensitive to the nth degree and Bucky exploits that knowledge as much as he can.
Steve could feel the fabric of Bucky’s shirt brushing against his hands and gripped it in his hands. Bucky threw the tattered remains of Steve’s panties to the side with one hand while his other hand wrapped around Steve’s dick stroking it to full hardness.
“Look at that little thing.” Bucky looked over Steve’s shoulder at the dick in his hand. “Just a tiny thing. That’s why you’re my boy, huh?” Bucky ground his erection into Steve’s ass. “Feel that, Kitten? That’s a Daddy cock. Not a tiny boy dick like yours.”
Steve’s knee buckled at Bucky’s words. His dick is smaller than Bucky’s, yes, but not by much. But hearing Bucky talk about Steve’s dick like that makes his insides tingle.
“Now why don’t we show this crowd what a good cockslut you are?” Bucky chuckled darkly in Steve’s ear. The dom helped Steve shuffle over to the couch, laying Steve on his stomach. The spreader bar kept him spread eagle and Bucky grabbed Steve’s ass, a cheek in each hand.
Bucky tapped the base of the plug and Steve groaned with every hit to his prostate. Bucky then gripped the base and slowly slid it out, letting the widest part catch on Steve’s rim. The plug wasn’t as thick as Bucky but he knew his boy loved the burn. The dom pulled the plug all the way out and set it on the table. He then grabbed the lube, that Sam so graciously held for him, undid his pants to pull his cock out and lathered it in lube.
“You ready, Kitten? Ready to show everyone what a cockslut you are?” Bucky lined his dick up and slowly pushed into Steve’s tight hole. The warmth that encompassed him made curses fall from his hip. Bucky gripped the rope that tied Steve’s arms and used it to pull Steve’s body on his dick. Everything thrust caused Bucky’s balls to slap against Steve’s and the noises coming out of his boy was telling Bucky he was nailing Steve’s prostate on every thrust. Groans were heard all around Bucky reminding him they had an audience. He saw someone take a few steps to them and Bucky glared at him.
“Mine.” Bucky growled. The man looked like he didn’t want to listen until Sam and Riley stood up from their seats and stared the man down. The idiot made a smart move and turned away with a scoff. Bucky pounded Steve and the blond’s dick swung with every thrust.
“I’m close.” Bucky warned as his thrusts sped up. Steve moaned under him as his dick slapped against his stomach.
“M-me too-oo, Daddyyyy.” Steve whined.
“Yeah? Gonna come when I tell ya?”
Steve nodded.
“Gonna come on Daddy’s cock?”
Steve whined.
“C’mon then, Kitten. Come on Daddy’s cock.”
Steve’s voice left his body as he came untouched, something that has never happened. He was cognizant enough to feel Bucky’s release but blackout shortly after.
When he came to, Steve was wrapped in his favorite fuzzy blanket that smelt like his Daddy and fingers were running through his hair. Bucky was speaking softly to him slowly bringing Steve back to the land of the living. Once Steve felt more in control of his body, he snuggled into Bucky’s chest.
“There’s my snuggly kitten.” Bucky kissed the top of Steve’s head. “How do you feel, Steve?” Bucky always used his name when Steve was coming out of that floaty place to hopefully keep the sub from dropping. It also gave Steve something to latch onto if he was having a hard time coming out of that floaty place.
Steve took stock of his body. His shoulders were a little sore from his arms being tied behind his back but no sharp pain. Just the same soreness he feels after a long gym session. His ass was the perfect, post fuck soreness that he always craved and the rest of his arms and ankles felt perfectly fine.
“I feel good, Bucky.” Steve smiled up at Bucky who placed a kiss on the younger man’s nose.
“That’s good, Kitten. Could you eat a little bit for me? I got your favorite candy.”
Steve perked up, “Jellybeans?”
Bucky chuckled as he grabbed the Ziploc bag next to him, “Absolutely. Only the best for my baby.”
Steve preened as he grabbed the bag. “I love you, Daddy.”
Bucky smiled as he watched his boy dig into the bag, “I love you too, Kitten.”

We'll Meet Again...I Know When || Chapter 16
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x GN Reader
Words: 2,248
Overview: Given your old-fashioned personality and obsession with all things 1940s to 1980s, it’s no wonder that most people refer to you as an ‘old soul’ who would’ve rather lived back then than in the modern era. Little do they know, you already did, but with your previous life as Hollie Stark cut short, you’ve been left with some…unfinished business, to say the least. Top of your list? Finally getting to marry your thought-to-be-lost fiancé.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN: LIE TO ME, CAP
It’s truly amazing that you still have a smile on your face. Between all the paperwork, experiments, and babysitting your supposed ‘older’ brother to ensure he doesn’t blow himself up in said experiments, you’ve definitely had your hands full all day, yet the pep in your step remains strong. There’s been no arguing nor pouting on your part despite how common both usually are after such a stressful week, so why the good mood? Because tonight’s going to be perfect and you refuse to let anyone sour your joy.
Your boyfriend - your handsome, romantic boyfriend - has promised a surprise just for you. He insisted upon it despite your objections, worrying that he’d need rest instead considering he’d be returning directly from a mission, however James would hear to none of that:
“No, it’s gotta be tonight…I just have a feeling, doll,” he had given you a mischievous smile, trying to come off as only flirty, but you’ve been dating long enough to recognize when James is actually nervous. He gets fidgety, particularly with his fingers and feet, not to mention the man can’t lie while looking straight at you even if it were to save his life. The kiss he pressed to your hand was just a distraction for him.
"Oh? What are you up to, Barnes?" You had raised an eyebrow, your suspicion towards his motives growing when he kept his lips to your skin for much longer than a typical quick peck. Bashfully, he was trying to use it as a way to hide his giddy smile.
“It’s a secret. You’ll just have to be patient for now, Ms. Stark.”
His eyes had softened when he glanced up at you, letting you in on a peak of his expression which can only be described as pure admiration. 'Doll dizzy', as you've heard some of his fellow soldiers teasingly refer to it as.
Then quietly, he confesses, "...If I don't do it tonight, I'll just keep putting it off and I promised myself not to wait any longer. Steve’s in on it, too. If I back out again, he’ll throw me over his shoulder and make me tell you. You know how humiliating that’ll be, doll? No one will ever let me live it down and it wouldn’t be very romantic either…I want this to be perfect. The second I get back, I’m taking you out to dinner - a nice place, too, I’ve been saving -”
“- Bucky -”
"- The reservation is already set," you couldn’t argue with that especially not with his finger pressed to your lips, “...Let me do this for you, Hollie. Eight o’clock sharp. Houghton’s. I’d say wear something nice, but you look dazzling in anything.”
His compliment made you blush and like a cheery teenager asked to the school dance by her crush, you had finally agreed to Bucky’s planned date. With another long kiss (and another after that out the door), he promised to see you tonight, reminding you for good measure that he’ll arrive to pick you up at Eight o’clock exactly and that you better be hungry because you can order anything you want, his treat.
That’s why you’ve been in such a good mood today. Elated and blithesome, zealous and restless. According to Howard, you’ve been skipping around the lab like a rabbit with enough stars in your eyes to put the milky way to shame which he’d made sure to constantly tease you about as any sibling would, however even he can’t faze your current delight.
“What do you think he means by a ‘surprise’? What could he possibly be surprising me with?” You wonder aloud, your chin resting in the palm of your hand as you daydream about your upcoming date. It’s seven thirty two; a half an hour wait.
“I thought dinner was the surprise.”
“No, he said that’s only part of it - the ‘build up’ if you will.”
“And that’s not enough? Geeze, Barnes is really trying to butter you up for something, isn’t he?”
You scoff, knowing Howard well enough to understand what he’s trying to insinuate, “First of all, contrary to yourself, some guys actually put in more than minimum effort when it comes to wooing their date. Second, they’re not always nice to a girl just to get into her pants. Maybe if you followed James’s example by being a proper gentleman for more than the first date, you’d be able to keep a gal longer than a one-night stand.”
“Who said that was even my goal? Women are nothing but trouble especially once they tie themselves to you. Sure, the first date or two are nice, then they start gettin’ all naggy and crap,” Howard shutters at the thought, although you simply roll your eyes.
“You’ll see. One of these days, you’ll meet a nice lady who you’d move heaven and earth for,” twirling in your chair, you cross your arms behind your head with a smirk, “You just gotta get your head outta your ass first, Howy.”
He makes a sound of dull acknowledgment, continuing to tinker with his machine and a moment of silence passes.
“...Do you know something I don’t?” You question suddenly, but he merely shrugs.
“What makes you think I know something? You think Barnes and I have tea parties every afternoon where we share the latest gossip in our lives?”
“You haven’t given me your whole ‘concerned older brother’ speech for today which means you must already know what James is planning for our date or else I would’ve heard it by now,” when Howard makes a grabby motion towards a screwdriver on the table, you hand it to him while watching his expression carefully.
“Be back by curfew, no later than ten, and absolutely no fonduing or else I kill him,” you’re tempted to roll your eyes again at his bland response. He didn’t even put effort into it.
“You’re my brother and James is the type to want his in-law’s opinions on stuff before acting, so I wouldn’t put it past him to have mentioned this ‘surprise’ to you beforehand.”
“He didn’t ask my opinion about marrying you,” while it’s said to challenge your own words, you notice a bit of bitterness behind his statement.
“He proposed in the heat of the moment and he did ask you afterwards before we went announcing it to anyone else,” when his hands hover over the table, you pass him another wire fuse, “You don’t really disapprove of James…do you?”
With a huff, Howard snatches the fuse from you, sticking his head back into his work quite literally which echoes his voice, “No brother likes seeing his little sis running off with some guy especially - Ow! - when he knows how they can be...But Barnes treats you alright. As long as he keeps at it, I have no problem with him. I just don’t wanna catch you guys snogging anymore. ‘can’t erase that from my mind!”
You smile. One glance at it causes Howard to wave a hand with a stammer, “There; that’s the nicest thing you’re getting from me for the rest of the week, ya’ hear? You’re cut off! Now, where did you put those notes from earlier? I gotta double check your calculations.”
Just like that, you’re shaking your head, bumping his shoulder with yours lightly as you go to retrieve the papers, “It’ll be a waste of time~ My calculations are fine.”
“That’s what you said last week and you got one of the formulas wrong!”
You ignore his comment, checking the clock. Ten minutes till eight. James will be here soon, dressed sharply in his uniform which will look fitting next to the deep red dress you’ve picked out.
Hooked arm in arm, you’ll leave together to Houghton’s, the fanciest restaurant in town. Going inside, he’ll likely hold the door open for you and pull out your seat, setting an example for all the men there on how to be the perfect gentleman who makes his girl feel like a queen. You’ll talk all night probably and by the end of the night, you reckon he’ll tell you the surprise. He’ll be nervous, worried about your impossible judgment despite also being eager to see your promised reaction. You’re sure you’ll love whatever it is.
Maybe he’s gotten you a gift or has decided something else to add to your wedding ideas. Perhaps he’s even drawn out a more in depth plan for what he wants your shared future to look like. Last time you asked, James wasn’t sure where he wanted to live. Somewhere in the country, but in what state? Build your own house, but what’s the floor design? Kids for sure, but how many? What names? There’s still so much left to discuss.
On cue, there’s a knock at the door, one that has you smiling ear-to-ear as you quickly grab the notes from the desk and basically slam them into Howard’s chest. He lets out a quiet ‘hmph’ followed by a halfhearted glare not that you pay much mind because right now, your focus is fixing your hair and throwing open the door to greet your fiancé at long last, “Hey, welcome back, soldier!”
.
.
.
…You know…God, you just know…
Steve himself isn’t out of place, in fact he’s visited the lab arguably as much as Bucky given how often Howard calls him down to test out experiments and such. It’s his expression that’s out of place: his blank face and wide, troubled eyes…He looks as if he’s seen a ghost, skin pale and sickly yet he’s clearly fighting against that, trying not to let it show.
When you open the door, you already know because of the way Steve won’t even look at you. He fixes his posture, standing tall with his arms crossed behind his back - a proper soldier at the ready except his eyes dart away from yours immediately, his lips twisting as if he has only just realized what he has to do which isn’t necessarily true. He knew coming here what would be said…he just isn’t ready to hear it himself…
All of his hasty preparing and reciting has been instantly forgotten. His feet had carried him here on their own, his mind insisting upon some instinct that this is the right action - the first action he should take upon returning to base, but they won’t lead him any further.
Taking in a quivering, sharp breath, Steve tries to speak, "Hollie, I-"
"-Lie to me, Cap."
"W-What?" His voice breaks when he finally looks up from his shoes to you, although he instantly regrets doing so.
You're staring right at him, your lips pressed together tightly, however they only barely manage to suppress your frown or the tears that prick in your eyes. You inhale enough air to fill your whole lungs - courage needed to even get words out let alone speak them as clearly yet softly as you do:
"Lie to me, Steve," you repeat while using his name this time, "Tell-Tell me James is getting ready for that dinner he promised me. Tell me he's just runnin' a little late because he still wants everything to be perfect, but he'll be there 'cause he promised. J-Just...Just lie to me, Steve, please. P-Please!"
He hesitates before, ever so quietly, whispering, "...He's running a little late..."
The pain sob that escapes you shatters whatever remains of Steve's own heart, dealing a final blow to his poorly attempted 'stoic' expression which crumbles the same way you do. He's too numb to try catching you, helpless as he watches you fall to your knees with minimum effort given towards catching yourself against the doorframe you reach for while muffling your scream in your other hand.
The mere seconds that Steve’s left standing there, doing absolutely nothing to comfort you, feel like hours much to his guilt. It’s within that time that the day’s events truly sink in, processed at last. He hadn’t had much time to dwell on it back on that train - there was a job to do then - but as he listens to his best friend’s fiancée cry, it hits him all at once like a pile of bricks: Bucky’s gone for good and there’s nothing anyone can do to bring him back.
Even when Steve snapped back into reality and kneeled beside you, it felt numb to tip yourself into his arms and grip his uniform tightly in your hands. You’re not sure if he had said anything else then, remembering only his embrace itself. You think Howard might’ve crouched nearby, his hand awkwardly placed on your shoulder since he knew no other way to comfort you; that was never his strong suit and he was probably in shock himself, having just been teasing you about Barnes only to find out the worst.
Everything just felt numb except for your heaving chest as you struggled to catch your breath and your dull aching heart as it raced possibly faster than it ever has before, just not in a good way, but no matter the pain, you could only think of James in that moment:
He had been fine in the morning. He was laughing and stealing kisses from you before his mission, making sure you knew how much he was looking forward to your dinner date. You saw him off - You saw him waving back to you, his chest lifting as air flowed through his lungs; he was alive then, so why isn't he alive now? How is it that can you lose the love of your life within mere hours? What had either of you done to deserve it?

You woke up in a sweat, sitting up abruptly. When you dipped your head over the side of the bunk you looked to see that Peter was still dead asleep. The mouth guard did its job or maybe you didn’t scream. Either way, you didn’t disturb your friend’s sleep. You quietly got down from the top bunk to check your phone and saw that the time read six in the morning which for a Saturday was definitely early.
You also saw the text from Bucky saying that he’d be there at seven. Peter still didn’t wake up as you got ready— which was just brushing your teeth, you always stayed in pajamas and headscarf while getting work done in Wakanda. You took a sticky note from the cube on his desk and wrote a little note saying you had to go and catch him at school on Monday as well as writing a second sticky note for May. Peter’s note, you stuck to his forehead— taking a picture.
“Let’s go, hospital’s not too happy I parked the quinjet on their helipad,” Bucky said as he met you outside the apartment building.
You usually slept on the ride there while Bucky flew. He looked over to see you curled up in the passenger’s seat and smiled. He still couldn’t believe that Steve had a kid but was happy you existed.
It meant he and Steve had a life in the modern world, that they could have a life. You meant that the two super-soldiers weren’t completely out of time, even if it felt like it occasionally. He shook you awake before reaching the border, knowing that seeing the entrance into Wakanda was one of your favorite things.
T’Challa and his entire family greeted the two of you as the jet landed. You yawned as you tried to greet them much to Ramonda and T’Chaka’s amusement.
“She insisted on sleeping over at a friend’s house before coming,” Bucky said.
“Well, you can continue sleeping in the chamber and then we get dinner.”
Shuri dragged you along. You linked arms with her and you two skipped to the lab not bothering to wait for the adults. You smiled at all the scientists who waved back and settled into the cryo chamber for a strange death-like sleep while they worked on your brain. You opened your eyes again before they closed the lid.
“Wait. General Okoye, can I train with you and the Dora Milaje?”
She and everyone else laughed.
“When you get better little doll, we will gladly train you whenever you want to come to Wakanda.”
You smiled and closed your eyes as the cold settled in so they could get started. The one part you and Bucky weren’t excited for was when all the memories came flooding in. They assured you that the nightmares themselves wouldn’t result in you screaming like you tended to do now but they would be there and would probably last for a longer time.
They could’ve gotten rid of it completely but that would involve risking brain damage to you both because of how HYDRA wiped you guys— which they did on purpose to make it near impossible to fix you. Both you and Bucky thought it wasn’t worth it, you had nightmares now it wouldn’t matter if you still had them.
Monday rolled around and you were excited to present the mini war rhino statues to Michelle, Ned, and Peter. They no longer minded you spending on them after realizing it was just something you liked to do. If you saw something that reminded you of someone, you would get it. No questions asked, nothing expected in return. Ned and Michelle would find the statues cute, only Peter would know about the fact that the war rhinos were true— he was let in on the secret of Wakanda not being a third world country like everyone thought.
Ned jumped as you slammed his locker door shut making you chuckled. You presented Ned the figurine and leaned against the locker talking about his weekend and how cool the field trip was to Columbia University’s science lab, until a meltdown happened and the students had to be evacuated. Both of you looked over when you spotted Peter. The two of you waved but he didn’t wave back. In fact, his eyes were focused firmly on the floor and he looked rather jumpy. Peter walked right past the two of you and into his homeroom. You and Ned looked at each other.
“Wonder what’s wrong with him?”
“I don’t know but he was like this yesterday too. Catch you at lunch,” Ned said as the bell rang.
“Yeah,” you said absentmindedly before walking to your homeroom separate from the two boys.
You were in Spanish class when you thought you heard something. You focused your ears on the hallway instead of what your teacher was saying and heard the mumbling of the familiar Peter. He seemed in distress. You raised your hand asking to go to the bathroom, only to be denied until the test were finished being taken up. It was only a minute but by the time you went outside you couldn’t see Peter anymore.
“Where’s Peter?” you asked once you entered the cafeteria.
“No clue. He left history after the test and haven’t seem him sense,” Ned said.
You hummed in question but sat down anyway, sliding the war rhino statue over to Michelle at her spot that you noticed was one seat closer than before. Peter wasn’t just missing from lunch Monday but for the rest of the week as well. And whenever you and Ned did catch his eye, he barely waved before getting jittery and walking off. He wasn’t hanging out after school anymore beside decathlon where he seemed stressed if he peeled his eyes from the table for a single second.
~~
“You see this video?” Ned turned his phone to you while you guys waited against the lockers for the homeroom bell to ring.
“What is it?”
“New superhero… at least that’s what the local news is saying.”
“New superhero?”
It wasn’t the Avengers’ job to keep track of every enhanced or new hero. Most of them you definitely didn’t know about but S.H.I.E.L.D. did try to keep tabs as best as they could. You hadn’t heard of any new heroes and no one else at the compound had said anything about it. Ned played the video and you watched the newly proclaimed ‘hero’ stop the robbery of a deli.
“Woah.” You jumped when what looked like webbing shot out from the hero’s hand and he swung around a lamp post before disappearing into the night.
“I know right. They’re calling him Spider-man.”
“I can see why.”
“So he’s not an Avenger?”
“Nope, never seen him around the compound. It’s still just the usual line-up. Maybe he wants to stay quiet, like the old superheroes you know before Uncle Tony told the world he was Iron Man and made us public figures. He seems cool though… the suit could be better.”
“Can you talk? You don’t even have a suit.”
You faked offense. “Well my suit will be cooler when I make it.”
The bell rang for homeroom and you jumped up from the floor, extending a hand to Ned. You pulled him up with more strength than necessary, making him shriek and stumble, as payback for the suit comment. Once again, Peter was avoiding and you were starting to get really upset— borderlining anger which was a new feeling for you.
But you didn’t want to think about it because Steve and Sam were supposed to be coming home in a few days if everything went as planned. A month seemed like such a lifetime, especially considering you missed spending Halloween with other Midtown High students because you were waiting for a call from them all night— spending the night on FaceTime undoing your braids instead of going to Flash’s party.
You caught Peter by accident in the hall one day. You had left the textbook you needed for chemistry in your locker and the teacher let you go get it. You weren’t sure what Peter was doing but you were glad that whatever dragged him out there caused him to be in your path.
“Peter Parker, why are you avoiding me and Ned? You’ve missed lunch and all our hangouts.”
He looked around realizing the hallway was empty and he couldn’t escape you. Peter sighed loudly.
“Maybe I just want some time alone.”
“Since when? We do everything together.”
“Yeah, well not everything has to be!” Peter snapped causing you to step back— you didn’t do well when people yelled at you.
“Woah, I was just asking. Sorry I bothered you, I didn’t mean to make you upset. You just seemed so s— never mind, sorry.”
The tears started and Peter realized he messed up. He watched you turn off your hearing aids and abruptly turn around, briskly walking back to class before he could call out your name. Peter kicked the locker in front of him, causing it to dent, and went back to his class.
You weren’t at decathlon practice and he knew it was bad. He immediately apologized to Ned for being off the past couple of weeks. Peter texted you but got no reply back— you never had your read receipts on so he wasn’t even sure if you saw it. He had resolved himself to apologize the next day but you weren’t there, Ned said something about your dads coming home and ditching school.
Bucky stayed in the common room for dinner so you, Sam, and Steve could have the evening with just the three of you. You hugged both of them and then made them stand in the middle of the living room so you could inspect them for cuts and injuries despite Steve saying they already got checked by medical. After you were satisfied that they were okay, you finally let them go. Steve’s shower was as quick as he could possibly make it, knowing that Sam would take a while.
Steve recruited you to help with dinner which was spaghetti and breadsticks. As you threw the pasta into the boiling water, Steve showed you the ring for your stamp of approval. He busted out a nice bottle of red wine, which you attempted to sneak a sip. Steve quickly yanked it out from your hands.
“Ah, ah. Underage. You get ginger ale.”
“Do I have to lay down afterwards too?”
“Huh?”
“Never mind, Dheaidí… FRIDAY, play Earth, Wind & Fire.”
Sam came into the kitchen, dressed nicely because Steve requested for whatever reason. He figured it was because dinner after coming back from being separated from you for a month was a special occasion. He laughed as the two lights of his life danced ridiculously to ‘Boogie Wonderland’— you and Steve hip bumping. Sam slid over to join you two singing the verse as loud as possible. The cooking was done as FRIDAY moved onto Frank Sinatra per Sam’s request and lowered the volume.
“I know we were gone for a month but why are you grinning so much?” Sam asked you.
“No reason.”
Steve nudged your foot underneath the table but you couldn’t stop grinning so you just ate another forkful of pasta. Steve asked FRIDAY to lower the volume of the music even more as he stood up. He took a sip of wine, not that it would help, and placed it on the table. Sam watched as Steve stood in front of him and asked him to stand up. It finally clicked when Steve started to lower to floor, the knowing smile on both of their faces bright enough to blind.
“You’ve been by my side literally since we’ve met. And despite having every valid reason to bow out of this crazy life, you are still here. I’m feeling like the universe is giving me a second chance at everything since coming off ice. Especially when it comes to family and, Sam, I want you in our family officially. Will you marry me?”
Sam chuckled, “You’re always a few steps ahead of me, running man.”
“Hmm?”
Sam pulled out his own little box from his back pocket. Steve stood back up, grin taking up half his face, as the two switched rings.
“I vote we make the family name Wilson-Rogers,” you said.
Both men turned to look at you to find you had taken Steve’s wine glass and swirled it around. Steve raced back around to try and grab the glass from you but you quickly took a gulp.
“Yeah, that’s what you get, he said as your face contorted tasting the alcohol, taking the wine glass back that you readily handed over.
“But I like that, Babydoll. Wilson-Rogers sounds nice.”

My Masterlist
A/N-This is actually a repost of a fic I wrote in...2018? yeah, that’s insane. Anyway, I’m trying to get back into writing so I wanted to put together a masterlist but I couldn’t find this fic anywhere! No clue why lol. Luckily, I had it saved somewhere else. I reread it but didn’t do much editing which means this is still 2018-Nation’s writing so take it or leave it ig 😉
Thanks for reading!

Landing the job as Steve Rogers’-Captain America himself-assistant was the best thing to ever happen to you. Sure, you couldn’t tell anyone the details of your job...actually you couldn’t tell anyone anything about your job, not even where you work. Even your parents think you’re a secretary at a law firm. While it is technically true helping “justice” thrive is the main component of what you do, the person you work for just happens to literally be the picture that shows up next to said word in the dictionary-which Tony and Clint had a hay day trolling Cap about. Tony was already designing prototypes of merch to market globally before Pepper got wind of his scheme and put a stop to the nonsense. You still have one of the earlier designed shirts though, which you will treasure forever and never tell Steve you have it.
Other than the secrecy (and occasional explosion in the lab) this job has been a life saver. You had met Natasha at a local animal shelter you were volunteering and you both hit it off right away. She became a close friend and when Tony decided that Steve needed someone who understood technology and could shoulder some of Cap’s less harrowing responsibilities, Nat recommended you. Whether or not you met all of the qualifications at the time is up for debate but something tells you that Natasha might have been...persuasive. In no time you were part of the team, well, not the actual Avengers team-you had the agility and balance of a newborn foal. Nonetheless, that didn’t mean they treated you any differently, they were basically family at this point.
Most of your job was scheduling Steve’s meetings and making sure his week went smoothly in terms of the day-to-day itinerary. Another, separate, part of your job was following the super soldier around and making sure he had everything he needed; especially helping him deal with the ever-increasing Stark tech throughout the tower. Tony didn’t seem to understand that if he kept modifying and changing the coffee machine and every other damn appliance in the building Steve was never going to be able to make himself a cup of coffee without destroying the whole kitchen. Thus, you had to be on electronics duty if Steve ever needed assistance.
Because of all the hands-on work you did, and the constant necessity for smooth communication, you were almost always hovering near the Captain, which neither of you minded. It was part of being an assistant, and most of the time you worked on your tablet, and when there was a null in work you enjoyed conversing with any nearby members of the team. All in all, a pretty sweet gig for someone who always needed to be doing something, like you.
The only problem with your around-the-clock surveillance of the blonde-haired hero was that where Steve was, inevitably his newly found, brainwashed until a few months ago, best pal, James Buchanan Barnes; “Bucky”. It has been some time since Steve brought his wartime partner to join the team in the compound. Since then Bucky’s involvement with the team and the modern world, in general, has progressed astronomically. He used to be standoffish and only interacted with Steve on the rare occasion Bucky would leave his room. It had taken two months of the team supporting Cap and trying to include his war-torn friend by helping them both adjust until he so much as sat at the dinner table with the group for weekly “family night” as Tony put it. It had taken even longer for Bucky to start having actual conversations with everyone, though.
Since you and Steve were constantly in proximity with each other you found yourself hanging around Bucky as much as he did. Whenever Cap persuaded Bucky to join him in the gym or watch a simple movie you were there too. Of course, you and Steve had a close work relationship. After Nat, he was one of your closest friends. He was easy to talk to and you felt like no one listened to you vent, as well as dole out sound advice to your problems without diminishing them as good ol’ Captain America did. Steve never made you feel unimportant or like just another laky when you worked for him, he treated you with respect and even though you kept up professional appearances around him during work hours your relationship was never awkward. If Steve and Bucky were watching a show together Steve always offered you to join them and wanted to hear your opinions. Sam sometimes teased him about mixing work and personal life but the big lug was a casual guy when he wasn’t on a mission; he didn’t want some unknown person hovering over him all the time. You would normally join if you didn’t have other work to finish.
This exact teen is what caused you to oftentimes be the third wheel whenever Steve and Bucky hung out. He had actually warmed up to you a bit faster than the rest of the crew, due to you constantly surrounding Steve. You didn’t mind, at the time Bucky seemed like a kicked puppy and you just wanted to help Steve get his best friend back. At first, Bucky had been wary of your constant presence, but eventually, he adapted and actually started making small talk with you. The relief that filled Steve’s face every time Bucky came out of his room with no outside prompt or asked you a simple question was enough for you to start focusing some attention on Barnes. After all, it was your job to keep Steve’s life well maintained and happy, and Bucky being happy and social was a large part of relieving Steve’s stress. You knew Steve felt guilty for the torture Bucky went through, so you decided when you had off time that you would assist in Bucky’s transition into society.
You started off slow; beginning easy conversations about mundane topics or showing Bucky a cute cat video anytime you spotted the super soldier had crept out of his room; anything to get him to trust you more. Once that trust was finally established you started actually going to his room with the intention of getting him out of it. You’ll never forget the first time you knocked on his door and saw the shocked expression on his face when he opened it and didn’t see the dorito-like, masculine form he was expecting. There were ups and downs, times when he would immediately slam the door in your face or have a run-in with a particular jarring piece of information and wouldn’t leave his room for days. It took time, but with the combination of Steve pushing him from the past and you pulling him into the future, Bucky started sulking less and smiling and joining you more and more. Your main goal had been to help both Steve get his friend back and help Bucky get his life back. What you hadn’t expected were the feelings you developed for your dorky friend.
Around the time it finally seemed like Bucky was ninety percent comfortable with being a part of society is when you began noticing things about the shaggy-haired man. Like how he ran his hands through his hair when he was desperately trying to understand how the internet worked. Or how he would only give a smile that shows teeth when he thoroughly enjoyed something or felt completely at ease with his friends. Or how he could stare mesmerized by the simplest of things and not get bored. Or how his face would light up in pride when he got you or Steve to laugh at a movie he had picked out himself. Or, especially, how his gym shorts hugged his muscular thighs and thick ass, and the sinful faces he made when concentrating on lifting a strenuous amount of weight. All these things you were noticing were not normal friends things-you didn’t give two shits about how you looked when periodically helping Tony and Bruce in the lab or when spotting Sam and Nat in the gym. But as soon as Bucky walks in the room you have a panic attack trying to remember whether or not you applied mascara that day.
This was a problem on numerous levels. One; Bucky was constantly around Steve, which in turn meant he was always around you, being a huge distraction. Two; even when Bucky wasn’t directly next to you he was taking up space in your head, being a huge distraction. Three; it was impossible to concentrate on assigning jets to hangers and all your other pressing tasks because BUCKY WAS A HUGE FUCKING DISTRACTION. The culprit in question did nothing to help the situation. His athletic choice of attire; tanks and T-shirts made of elastic fabric and gym shorts and joggers that made it obvious if it was laundry day… Not just his clothing, but whereas Bucky used to maintain a safe distance from you and the others it was soon revealed that Bucky likes to touch. It made you somewhat sad knowing the only kind of physical contact he got for years was pure torture and you knew he had come a long way since then. It was pretty obvious Bucky was touch deprived-as soon as he was comfortable being close again he was close. There was no simply standing or sitting next to Bucky. Either his legs were slung across your lap or his hand thoughtlessly played with the strands of your hair or he pulled you close so he could just feel your presence next to him.
Normally, you had no objection to platonic touches and friendly hugs from your friends but your heart leaped out of your chest when he so much as side hugged you. You knew there was nothing behind Bucky’s touches, he was honestly like that with everyone he considered a friend. Bucky had no secret intentions whatsoever, especially not for you. You were an assistant, not some hot superhero spy-like Nat or Wanda; it wasn’t difficult to see the difference between you and all your Avengers teammates-including Bucky. Knowing that still didn’t make it any easier for you when he cuddled up next to you on the couch for a Parks and Rec marathon. It was getting to the point where you were almost scared to talk to him for fear he would catch on to your feelings. The last thing you wanted was to make him feel pressured or awkward when shooting you down, so you eliminated that possibility. For your sake and his, you decided to cease any alone time with Bucky, it’s not like he’d notice anyway.
Instead of your designated spot on his right during “family movie night,” you squeezed between Natasha and Vision. Bucky had sent you a questioning glance but he didn’t make a move to protest; you didn’t let yourself dwell on that, this was what you wanted, after all-separation. Next, you started making use of your designated office space instead of always trailing Steve. You gave him a bullshit excuse about a bad knee and told him if he needed you, to either video chat or direct message you. Initially, you expected that would do it, that Bucky wouldn’t check on your absence or even notice your negligence much; but you were so wrong.
For some reason, ever since you stopped hovering around Steve, Bucky had been running into you non-stop. At first, you thought it was just a cruel coincidence that around every corner was a massive roadblock in the form of Bucky Barnes. Fate seems to have a sick sense of humor, that or she just really appreciates irony. Bucky’s face would light up and he would wrap you in a warm hug, telling you about his newest 21st century discovery(which was currently frozen yogurt). Not wanting to backtrack on your ‘quitting Bucky cold turkey’ method, you would stumble over an excuse and scurry away from his confused expression. But you knew it was for the best that the two of you drift apart. How was he supposed to integrate himself into society fully if he was stuck with you as some sort of pity crutch?
Your odd behavior only seemed to spur on Bucky’s mindset of getting you to make time for him. He was constantly asking you for help with things, knowing that you were too kind-hearted to deny helping him. However, if he couldn’t corner you, he couldn’t insist you help him color code his closet(which was an oxymoron because he only ever wore black) or whatever else he needed assistance with, so you kept your eyes peeled for his brown hair and shiny arm at all times. Whenever you spotted him or heard his heavy steps echo down the corridor, you quickly veered away from his line of sight and scuttled off to do something else.
It was a slight inconvenience, especially when almost every time you wanted to eat he was just chilling in the kitchen or connected common areas, so it was like you were on some kind of forced diet too. The biggest problem, still, with your Monty Python-inspired “run away!” strategy was that Bucky gave chase most of the time. He would catch sight of you or your retreating silhouette, and shout out for you, dropping whatever he was doing to follow you. As childish as you felt, you refused to stop walking and face him like a mature adult. Those times you felt Bucky encroaching on your hideaway, you shouted some bullshit excuse his way and ducked into an elevator or room to basically hide from his searching gaze. Even though it has only been one week since you officially started this little game of cat and mouse, you were honestly dead tired and all you wanted was for Bucky to give up and move on.
At the moment you were rummaging through the refrigerator in the shared kitchen at 3 in the morning because your empty stomach was keeping you awake. Risking being caught by any of your team members who were hopefully all sound asleep, you crept to the kitchen. You had managed to scrounge up some leftover pizza, choosing to ignore the very obvious sticky note on the box with Sam’s name on it. Feeling somewhat guilty you mentally promised to buy Sam a replacement the next time you went out… maybe he wouldn’t even notice a couple of pieces missing.
Just as you pulled out the container a deep voice that hadn’t been clearly directed at you in more than a week cut through the silence of the night.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Sam made it pretty clear if anyone touched his Domino's he would strap them to Redwing and set them on a course for Asgard,” While the words had his trademark Bucky cheekiness, his tense stance and hooded eyes were anything but joking. You stammered for an answer; normally you would bite back a sarcastic remark but you felt like a kid caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
“B-Bucky! You’re awake!?” You shoved the forgotten box of pizza back into the fridge, slamming it shut. The kitchen island in front of you put a good six feet between the two of you, but that did nothing to slow your beating heart or diminish the sudden tension in the air. In a desperate attempt to act nonchalant you took a slow sip from the plastic water bottle you were tightly holding, but you knew Bucky saw straight through you.
————
Bucky, on the other hand, was trying to calculate his next actions. He couldn’t sleep because he couldn’t stop mauling over how you had been acting this past week. It wasn’t hard to tell you had been avoiding him. The moment Steve walked into the training center without you at his heels, tablet in hand and ready for a day’s work, Bucky knew something was off. His first thought was that you were sick, but when he questioned his friend, Steve revealed that you’d requested to work from your office from now on. Bucky had obviously been surprised at that. On more than one occasion you had been very vocal about how you preferred to be on your feet and work hands-on.
He had brushed it off, assuming that your knee was actually bothering you. Of course, he was worried about you, after all, you were important to him. Next to Steve, you were his closest friend. There were times when he felt guilty burdening Steve with more of his problems, so he confided in you. You didn’t make Bucky feel like he owes you anything; for some unfathomable reason, you seemed to like him with no strings attached. The first time you had looked him directly in the eyes and tried to start a conversation Bucky had been flabbergasted. Why would someone so perfect ever associate themself with someone as fucked up like him? As much as Bucky attempted to drive you away, you refused to let him stew in his own confusion and grief. You helped bring him out of his sulky and constant darkness with your toothy grins, obnoxious laughter, smart-ass quips, and incessant affirmation that you didn’t care who he was in the past, you just knew that you liked him now and that was all there was to it. Bucky knew not to argue with you, so he just accepted his fate.
You were the one who first helped him believe that even though he may not believe he deserves a future, there were people who loved him just because they saw the potential for good in him, not just what they remember him being in the past. That sentiment has always stuck with him, and he credits you for all the new activities, shows, and hobbies he has come to love. Bucky had never told you that, but that didn’t stop him from showing his affection in different ways; including finding your office and cheering you up over your injured knee. Bucky tried doing just that, but for some reason every time he saw you it seemed like you were busy.
It didn’t take too long for him to catch on to the fact that you were avoiding him on purpose for some unknown reason. In the past when Steve or his other buddies had acted grumpy at/around Bucky for whatever reason, he would kick it out of their asses. Something told Bucky doing that to you would be a bad idea, even though you in particular ignoring him struck a nerve. That nerve kept being struck every time you would spot him, he would move to confront you, and you scuttled away from him; which happened too many times for him to count. He had racked his brain for what he could have possibly done to scare you off so completely, and even asked Steve if you had mentioned anything to him. Bucky’s star-spangled friend had been just as lost as he was, sharing that you had been somewhat distant lately. His troubled thoughts about what he did to anger you kept him awake at night. He knew it had to be something, and he needed to talk to you about it. So when he went to the kitchen for some water he was at the same time relieved and upset to see you scrummaging through the refrigerator. Neither of you was leaving the space until you spilled why you had been avoiding him.
The look plastered on your face wasn’t one of fear or apprehension like Bucky was expecting; it was guilt. He hadn’t wanted to believe it, but that look confirmed you had been ignoring him on purpose. There were a thousand thoughts and emotions running through his head; confusion, hurt, sadness, jealousy(which was unexpected), but he focused on the one emotion he most understood-anger.
-————
“B-Bucky! You’re awake!?”
“Couldn’t sleep, you know how it is, doll,” he tried to mask his inner turmoil, sauntering over to the cabinet to pull out a glass.
“Y-yeah, me too,” you attempted to redeem yourself and not draw any more attention to your heightened pulse. “Well, I got what I came for. I should head back to my room, have a bunch of scheduling to do tomorrow…” As you rambled you moved to maneuver around Bucky, but his bulky body blocked your exit.
“But you didn’t eat anything. I haven’t seen you around for meals much lately, must be a lot busier in your office,” Pure malice dripped from his tone, and he reached beside you and pulled open the fridge door. “I’m sure you’re starving; me too. Let me find us something to eat.”
By the look Bucky was giving you his seemingly innocent words were not just a suggestion. Your best bet would be to quickly and silently eat something, then escape back to your room. You still attempted to silently tiptoe around the super soldier, who was rummaging through the empty containers of leftovers and gross, gooey experiments of Tony’s. Just as you were at the edge of the kitchen island Bucky’s metal arm shot out and tugged on the end of your sleep shirt. Freezing in fear and(mainly) guilt, you meekly peeked at his glowering face. Before you could even open your mouth to stumble through an excuse, you were jerked to the counter next to the fridge by your shirt.
Bucky’s domineering form loomed over you, his metal hand bunched in the soft material of your sleep shirt, his other arm resting on the countertop, caging any escape routes. He leaned over you, pressing his forehead to your shoulder, his eyes squeezed shut in thought. You were paralyzed; his sudden actions had surprised you, not to mention this intimate proximity was causing your heart to leap out of your chest. At first, you had been slightly terrified, not of Bucky, you knew he would never do anything to hurt you, no you were terrified he was going to reveal that he knew about your feelings all along and shoot you down. But now, you were confused as to why he was touching you like he was, his back heaving slowly up and down with each of his strangled breaths.
“B-Bucky?” You murmured, starting to worry for him. At the sound of your voice he slowly pulled away, not so much that his chest wasn’t pressed still against you, but enough so that you could see the tears threatening to pour over the brim of his bloodshot eyes.
“Y/N...Y/N I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Whatever I did to make you mad...or, or scared, I’m sorry. Please forgive me,” He had never looked so much like a kicked puppy instead of an infamous and feared assassin. It was at that moment you realized what your actions this past week had done to your friend. You can’t believe how selfish you had been; to be so cruel and dismissive of Bucky, someone who has already lost so much. All because you were too afraid to confess some stupid ass crush you had on him. If you truly loved him you wouldn’t have put him through so much pain. That sudden realization, how you had made Bucky suffer to the point of apologizing for no reason, prompted a stream of tears to cascade from your own watering eyes.
The onslaught of tears caused Bucky to panic and assume he had done something wrong. He pulled away from you, stuttering a rapid apology. You quickly reached out to his retreating hands and simply pulled him back into your embrace, this time tightly hugging the large man.
“No, no you did nothing wrong, Bucky. I was the stupid and selfish one; I can’t believe I hurt you so much. I’m so fucking sorry Buck,” You gasped out an apology, squeezing him in your arms, “There’s no excuse for how I’ve treated you this week, but I was just so scared you would leave me if I told you how I felt. Being the fucking idiot I am, I didn’t comprehend that I was actually abandoning you. God, Buck, you have been such an amazing friend who deserves nothing but love and kindness…Not an asshole like me, I didn’t deserve you then, and I sure as hell don’t deserve you now.”
You unclasped your arms, shying away from his figure. Wiping away dried tears, you turned away from him, trying to hide your red face. Bucky was unmoving, still pressed against you. He reached down and tilted your head up to his inquisitive face, “What do you mean, ‘how you felt’?” You grimaced, glancing away, but Bucky gently cupped your face, languidly stroking your cheek with his calloused thumb. The comforting touch calmed your inner turmoil and you looked back up at Bucky to find his own blue orbs searching yours.
Nuzzling into the warmth of his palm you let out a content sigh, “Ok, you deserve the truth, but please, don’t take what I’m about to say as a reason for our friendship to change. This week apart has proved that neither of us benefits from avoidance.” You gulped, your throat had suddenly gone dry, “Bucky, I will always love you, but lately when I’m around you my heart won’t stop beating and I feel light headed-Heh, the way I’m describing it sounds like you make me sick,” You tried teasing, delaying the inevitable, “What I’m trying to say is that I don’t just love you as a friend, I like you as a crush.”
Bucky sucked in a sharp breath and you could see the gears turning in his head, “Shit, doll...You already know I love you too, and yeah, avoiding each other is not an option anymore. But I think we’re gonna have to change now.” Your posture sagged at his discouraging words, you had really been hopeful the two of you could go back to how it was before, being wonderful friends.
“Oh, oh okay. Um, yeah. Yeah, I understand, it would be too awkward I guess. It’s okay, I can talk to Steve about continuing work in my office-” Your shaking words were cut off by Bucky leaning down and sealing your lips with his. Large hands, one cool and smooth, the other warm and rough, pressed against the sides of your face; pulling you deeper into the kiss. Taking pity on your lack of air Bucky released your lips, resting his forehead against yours, out of breath himself. You could just barely make out the outline of his smug grin in the dim kitchen lighting.
A soft snort/chuckle broke through Bucky’s pants, “Y/N, doll; you are a fucking idiot. I was about to finish my sentence before you so rudely interrupted me,” He brushed a hand through your hair, affectionately tucking a stray hair behind your ear, “What I was going to explain is that obviously, we can’t keep things the way they were before-now that I know you feel the same way I have since I met you.” He pressed a gentle closed-mouth kiss to your lips; his tight-lipped smirk causing your own mouth to creep up into a smile.
Pulling your tightly clenched fists from your sides you slid them up to his shoulders, your hands pulling him even closer to you. His words washed through you, removing your previous hesitancy and allowing you to finally act how you’ve craved to for the past couple of months. You ran a hand through Bucky’s newly trimmed locks, playfully tugging at the fluffy, brown mop of hair. A rueful look was plastered on his chiseled features when he pulled away from your chaste kisses.
“Ooooo-doll you know how I feel about you touching my hair,” his serious tone was juxtaposed by the goofy ear-to-ear grin he was sporting. Bucky reached to take the hand you had in his hair away; intertwining it with his own.
“I remember you had always enjoyed me running my hands through it, but after that time Sam pointed out you had popped a boner, you kept all of my appendages away from your scalp,” you teased, reminiscing about that embarrassing but spank bank worthy interaction. Bucky had been so flustered and embarrassed that the only excuse he had been able to come up with was a resounding, “N-No, it’s from...from the tv show... Sorry, Y/N. I’m leaving now.” Sam had already been dying with laughter and when you glanced at the tv to confirm you were still watching Antiques Road Show, you joined in his giggle fit. Bucky never let you touch his scruffy head of hair ever again, and it took quite a few days after the incident for him to look you in the eyes again.
Knowing Bucky’s previous unexpected and involuntary reaction to your massage, you were still shocked by his next statement, “Yes, Y/N, I do remember, and it still applies. It makes me want to turn you around and fuck you against this kitchen counter.” You gawked at his blatant words, both aroused and surprised that the normally mellow and white bread Bucky had a fucking hair-pulling kink. The lord must have been smiling down on you.
The only reply you could think of fast enough was, “Woah there big guy, you haven’t even said you love me and now you're jumping the gun to fucking? Seems short-sighted.” Fuck. You weren’t trying to come off as desperate or send mixed signals but all these emotions running through you were too much to comprehend. Bucky looked slightly taken aback at your brazen tone; he floundered for a comeback, his face adorably scrunching in concentration.
He rocked back on his heels, glancing up to the ceiling as if the answer he was looking for was written up there, “Dammit...Sorry, sweetheart; honestly it was an involuntary response. After all this time avoiding me, your touch is driving me wild. Especially since I’ve been dreaming about you touching me like this; dragging your fingers through my hair, kissing me and all that, for so long. Now that you’re actually doing it, it’s almost unthinkable. But you’re right, I want to do this right. I want us to go steady and I am going to spoil the shit out of you as well as drive you crazy because that’s what couples do. I am going to do everything to show you how much I fucking love you, because I’m an ass when it comes to speaking about my feelings, obviously. Still, even when words fail, never doubt that I love you, Y/N.” Bucky shyly looked back down at you, a new sparkle of hopefulness in his eyes. It took all your willpower not to burst out into tears.
Your voice quivered with emotion, “Oh my god Buck; you are so full of shit!” Bucky’s face contorted in puzzlement at your sudden outburst. You playfully punched his shoulder, grinning like the Cheshire Cat, “James Buchanan Barnes, how dare you lie to me and go on some long ass rant about being a terrible speaker! That was the most profound, beautiful thing anyone has ever said to me. I can’t believe you overshadowed my confession, you dick! Now no matter how often I tell you I love you, it won’t even compare to that Shakespeare level of wooing.”
Bucky was now also laughing and smiling at your boisterous exclamation, his shoulders shaking with his fit of giggles, “Shut up, I’m serious you bastard! And by the way, we’ve been friends for however long, we’ve basically gotten the dating part handled; tell me more about what you would like to do to me on this counter…” You slyly tacked on your true desire, hoping Bucky would catch on to your not-so-subtle hint.
Immediately understanding your innuendo Bucky ceased his laughing, eyes darkening as he looked you up and down. He slid a warm hand across your hip, his close body radiated heat. As he planted languorous kisses along your jaw and neck, you remembered his reaction to the last time you touched his hair. Instead of gently brushing your hands through his dark brown locks like last time, you took tufts of his soft hair in your clutches and tugged, slightly yanking his head back so he could see your shit-eating grin.
Bucky’s eyes almost turned black as his pupils dilated. A growl rumbled in his chest and he swiftly picked you up by your waist and set you on the counter, clicking his tongue in warning, “Doll, you are gonna fucking get it. I’ve been waiting for this for too long-you ready?” You gasped out a yes, starting to pull your hands out of his hair; Bucky nipped at your earlobe he had been murmuring into. You jumped at the stinging sensation, “Don’t move those hands, sweetheart, you started this; you’re gonna finish it.” He sucked at the spot he had bitten before, continuing his assault on your upper body. Oh god, you weren’t sure if you had prepared yourself for what you were about to go through, but you sure as hell didn’t regret it.

Aromantic Characters Masterlist
A Life in the Middle (ao3) - leveragehunters (Monkeygreen) steve/bucky T, 9k
Summary: Shield Industries wanted a mural to brighten the foyer of their building. When Steve took the job he was expecting a paycheque and some name recognition, not a crush he knew was deepening into something more.
Bucky was a little annoyed to get stuck riding herd on the artist Shield hired. He was building security 2IC; he didn't have time to stand around and watch someone paint, but it was the CEO's pet project, so watch he would. He wasn't expecting to wind up taking a lot of cold showers. He wasn't expecting to make a friend, maybe the best friend he'd ever had.
Neither of them expected to get attached. Neither of them expected to want the other. Problem is their wants don't align: Steve's asexual, Bucky's aromantic, and nothing's ever going to change that. But love doesn't have to mean sex, romance is only one kind of love, and if two people of good heart want it badly enough maybe they can make a life in the middle.
And Besides, It Would Still Be All Right (ao3) - Dira Sudis (dsudis) steve/natasha E, 4k
Summary: Steve and Natasha weren't lovers like that.
Chocolate Cake (ao3) - SailorChibi T, 2k
Summary: Peter has a problem that he doesn't have a name for. Dad Tony to the rescue.
Clouds (ao3) - SailorChibis steve/tony, bucky/tony T, 9k
Summary: Being asexual, trying to handle university, and navigating his first relationship was hard enough for Tony.
Finding out his boyfriend was cheating on him didn’t help. The sweet guy helping to put his heart back together did.
Everybody Wants to Fall in Love (But Not Me) (ao3) - Willowe pepper/tony, rhodey/tony, pepper/rhodey/tony T, 12k
Summary: Being aromantic was never a problem for Tony. He has a surprisingly healthy non-romantic relationship with Pepper and Rhodey and he's happy with that. So maybe that means he's also, technically, never had to come out to someone. That wouldn't really even be a problem, if his teammates could just get their heads out of their asses and piece things together without him having to actually say, Hey, by the way, I'm aromantic and romance-repulsed, just thought you should know!
Five Queer Avengers And One Straight One (ao3) - Khashana thor/jane, clint/phil, steve/tony G, 3k
Summary: Also known as that time when it turned out the Avengers were actually one of those friend groups where all of them are queer and don't know about each other, except for that one straight guy.
Human Moment (ao3) - usedupshiver bucky/tony T, 5k
Summary: In the modern world, Bucky Barnes is something as rare as a full-blooded human. Sure, humanity used to think it was the ruling species, but now they are well aware that they share the world with angels and demons, elves and goblins, spirits and ghosts, and humans did what they have always done best – they adapted.
For Bucky, that meant making a very comfortable living selling all the things only a human body can offer beings that aren't. Over the years he has nourished all sorts of creatures, and has never had an unsatisfied customer.
Then Tony Stark shows up at his doorstep, and nothing seems to work out like it should.
if you gave me half a chance (ao3) - SailorChibi steve/tony T, 3k
Summary: "In case you hadn't noticed, Cap, the common element here is me." Tony pulled away, his heart racing. Why not have this conversation now? Why not? He fought off the urge to start laughing hysterically. "I don't... I'm not romantically attracted to people. To anyone. I don't fall in love. That's why Pepper broke up with me. She... she didn't believe that I could be faithful to her if I wasn't in love with her."
Tony's aromantic. Steve still loves him.
inking love on their skin (ao3) - Bookdancer bucky/clint T, 7k
Summary: “Clint was born with words inked on his body, names like Steve and Barnes on the back of his right hand, and America? Commandos? written on his chest.” Winterhawk soulmate AU
Lightning (ao3) - nightmaresinwintah steve/bucky T, 19k
Summary: Bucky stares at him, incredulous. He doesn’t speak. He knows - he knows. He knows what that means.
“What does that mean? The Latin words,” Bucky asks quietly, barely noticing his voice trembling. His very energy is vibrating - his flesh hand is shaking from where he’s gripping the phone a little too hard. There’s something fizzing in the air between them - he feels like he knows the answer to his own question already.
Steve hesitates. “Particeps anima. Soul sharer,” he mutters, casting his eyes to the floor, unable to meet Bucky’s gaze.
Or; Steve’s a witch, Bucky’s not, and they share a soul.
Not a Perfect Soldier (ao3) - TooManyBattles (Skarabrae_stone) steve/bucky M, 93k
Summary: In a world where HYDRA was wiped out in the '40s, Steve is found by the Army rather than SHIELD. General Thaddeus Ross wants a perfectly obedient super-soldier at his command, and to that end, he sets out to break Steve to his will. As Steve struggles to come to terms with all he has lost, his life in captivity is only made bearable by the presence of another prisoner-- another super-soldier known only as "Soldat".
Then the Avengers strike a deal with Ross to "borrow" him for missions, and Steve is faced with a team who dislikes him, an organization he doesn't trust, and the question of what he's willing to do to escape Ross's clutches.
Not for a Lack of Sweetness (ao3) - Caledfwlch (orphan_account) steve/bucky G, 1k
Summary: Bucky and Natasha have a chat.
Nuances (ao3) - felinefelicitations loki/natasha N/R, 51k
Summary: Loki is here—in her safe house no less—and despite the complexion change Natasha isn’t sure what else he has access to. Even if he doesn’t have his magic, he looks like a mutant; all the world needs is Magneto or Mystique recruiting him to their cause. She can’t very well let him walk out, but she doesn't have enough time to get SHIELD here either.
Does not want SHIELD here anyway—this is a safe house, meaning away from them as well, and Natasha hates the hassle of moving locations.
(Or that time the worst decision she made all year actually didn't turn out so bad after all.)
Pointy Elbows are a Weapon of Mass Destruction (ao3) - SailorChibi clint/phil, bucky/steve/tony T, 3k
Summary: Clint and Phil have been dancing around each other for years, and it was all Clint’s fault. He knew that. He just couldn’t bring himself to make the final leap and actually talk to Phil.
He would never live down the fact that it took a conversation with Tony Stark, of all people, to finally get him to have that talk.
to love and to hold (ao3) - lazywriter7 bruce/natasha T, 4k
Summary: His expression was a little too brittle. “Lucky for you I’m a bit too much of a coward for sex, then.”
But Natasha’s lips only flattened, gaze implacable. “Have you thought not wanting to do something might not be the same as being a coward?”
Unbroken (ao3) - Owl_42 yelena/kate T, 28k
Summary: Kate comes home one night, and see Yelena pacing. Except Yelena does not pace, does she ?
Or: Yelena discovering and talking about asexuality and aromanticism, and Kate being a good confident and comforting Yelena (who she is also in love with, but that's for the other chapters).

WIP Update - 7 Mar 2023
Busy week IRL, so not much writing done.  I touched 2 fics (1 WIPs & 1 new works)  for a total of  1694 words.
On Ao3, I posted:
-- the final chapter of  Make My Heart Come All Undone   - WI No Powers/Supernatural AU meet cute
-- Recollection of Anticipation  - CA;TFA compliant - Steve POV going through memories just before the train mission.
I have  12 active WIPs  with my current  deadlines being  the Stucky and Avengers bingos.
See below cut for what I’m working on/planning to work on - arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc.  As always, feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects  or any other WIPs I’ve got out there.   Interaction really helps feed the Muse and keep me motivated!
Tony Stark Bingo - Round 6  [TSB_R6  (Ends 28 Feb)
Masterlist
February Ficlet Challenge [FFC23]  (Ends 28 Feb 2023)
I kind of petered out on this, but the organizer said they’re keeping the collection open til June, so I may try to write a few more if inspiration strikes.
I’ve completed ficlets for the following prompts: (12 of 28 days)
Day 1: Wave;  Day 2: Caught in the Rain, Day 3: “What’s up, Doc?”;  Day 6: Pirate AU  Day 7: Carnival/Amusement Park,  Day 8:  “This is the last time I bail you out!”;  Day 9: Soulmate AU;  Day 10: “Wet your whistle”;  Day 12: Secret Admirer,  Day 13: Vampire and/or werewolf AU;  Day 15: Ice; Day 16: Out to Sea
Stucky Bingo Round Four [SB_R4] (Ends 31 May 2023)
Thirteen fills and one WIP with a couple of other vague ideas.
* B1 - Mutual Pining -  no specific idea, but it’s so On Brand for me I’m sure I’ll come up with something!  (maybe  the Centerfold fic idea I’ve been toying with)
* O2 - Stark Tower -  See BBB Flash  Ultimatum above.
* N1 - AU: Fairytale - stretching this prompt a little to combine it with the FFC23 Day 15: Ice prompt for a double drabble.   The Captain and the Soldier is vaguely inspired by The Snow Queen (Hans Christian Andersen).
* O4 - AU: Supernatural - got inspired by a dream to start a Stucky fantasy AU (magician!Steve/ensorcelled!Bucky) that @bill-longbow  is collaborating on with me. We’re currently sitting at 1640 words  (984-ish of which are mine).   Will probably continue on this sometime in February/March.   Current Last Line:  "My men will accompany you back to Brookline in the morning.”
I also adopted the Writing Format: Remix one of your fics  square  – am thinking of taking one of my Stony or WinterIron  No Powers fics and adapting it to a Stucky pairing – if you have any requests - hit me up!
WinterIron - No Powers AU  –  Stony No Powers AU
Avengers Bingo Round Four [AvB_R4] (Ends 2 June)
This time around the card is a 3x3,  so am looking at writing different pairings for my two favorite Avengers - Tony and Steve.    I have 2 fills completed and two WIPs, with a couple more ideas in play.
* A1 - Vulnerability - see TSB James “Rhodey Rhodes square above
* B1 - Unrequited Love -  see TSB Secret Admirer square above.
* B3 - Mistaken Identity -  I’m planning a third chapter of my Tony/Rhodey  Western AU   Decision at Sundown   based on the ficlet I wrote to fill the “Wet Your Whistle”  FFC23 prompt.   The expansion will make both this square (and probably the fic itself) more explicit.  😁
* C3 - Dog Tags - seems like a good  Steve/Bucky  (or Steve/Sam?) square.
All Caps Bingo [ACB_R1]  (Ends 30 Sep 2023)
This new bingo focuses on Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson as its main characters - paired up with each other or anyone else!    I’ve got three completed fics, one WIP and two different ideas for the One Fill, One Bingo Challenge - see this Tumblr post for details.
* B1 - Knotting - started a Cap!Steve/Modern Bucky A/B/O AU story this morning - 314 words so far.
* B2 - AU: Fugitive -  I combined this with the FF23 Pirate AU prompt to write  Flying the Flag of Freedom.   I plan on expanding it to bring Sam aboard (so to speak) but need to do some more research first.
* G1 - Isaiah Bradley -  see BBB Underdog above.
* O1 - “This is payback, isn’t it?” -  Posted  Recollection of Anticipation - to Ao3.  Combined with the FFC23 - Day 7: Carnival/Amusement Park prompt  to get Steve  revisiting memories based on Bucky’s comment about the Coney Island roller coaster.   It came in at 552 words.
* O3 - Pararescue Sam Wilson - may try to squish this into an expansion of  A Rising Star -  a previous Flash Fiction Friday fill.
Sam Wilson Bingo [SWB_R3]  (Ends 15 Oct 2023)

“So, you really melted ice man's heart, huh?”
You pouted, throwing Sam a warning glare as you turned back to the stack of books on the cart.
It had only been a few days since the night on the park bench and you had seen Bucky nearly every evening since. Most of the time you’d find him waiting by the chairs at the entrance to the library for you to get off shift, hair tucked under a baseball cap and hand brushing down at the thigh of his jeans, like maybe he was nervous enough to find the evidence in his palms. He’d brighten up as you spotted him, a lightness coming over his features. You’d lead him down the residential side streets, through canopied trees and flowerbeds along the sidewalk, to spend a few hours at Luciana’s sipping decaf and nibbling through pastries.
The crowds didn’t bother him as much lately it seemed, or maybe he was getting used to the hustle of rush hour after spending so much time avoiding it. Part of you wondered whether your hand slipping into his and the constant pressure of a slight squeeze had anything to do with it. You wondered if it grounded him like an anchor when his body was eager to float off into space.
He was so impossibly sweet with you; hesitant, like Mrs. Jefferson had said the first day he wandered into the library, but still, there was a lingering charm in it. It sat in the way he looked at you, like he was trying to memorize the lines on your faces, in the way he listened to your long rambles on the latest book you were assigning him, how he had no interest in cutting you off, like maybe he could have listened to you talk for an eternity if you’d let him.
Bucky Barnes was a little rough on his edges, with some fraying seams and broken pieces, but he was still whole – still complete and wonderful and beautiful. He was soft in his undertones, glimpses of a subtle charm and confidence slipping through the cracks in the small moments when he let his guard down. You didn’t know the Bucky before the war that Sam and Steve spoke so fondly of, but you knew the man he was now and well, this Bucky was everything.
“He seems like he’s doing better,” Sam said, a little softer this time as he leaned his back to the book shelf. His arms folded over his chest, a smile resembling a sort of pride pushing up at his cheeks. “Took me months to convince him to leave the apartment long enough to check out the VA and you’ve got him down here visiting you almost every day. He’s walking through rush hour just to see you, Y/n. That’s huge for him! Hell, his face might break from how much he’s been smiling lately...”
You laughed, hushing Sam as an elderly woman shot a pointed stare in his direction. Sam held his arms up in defense.
“He seems happy, Y/n,” Sam finished as you set another book onto the shelf. “Do you get what I’m saying?”
“I get you’re implying that it’s my doing,” you said unconvinced, “but he’s stronger than you give him credit for, Sam. He would have come around on his own. He just needed time. All of you did when you got back. Clearly some more than others. But Bucky... he suffered an immeasurable loss over there. Imagine what that must be like for him to have to readjust to his own body. Of course, he needed time.”
Sam was still smiling at you, nodding along, like maybe you were only proving his point. You believed so strongly in Bucky that it didn’t even cross your mind that maybe it was because of you that he’d started to find himself again. You hadn’t known Bucky when he was holed up in his apartment, shielding himself from the light and drowning in his own anguish. It broke your heart to imagine him sitting alone in a dark, messy apartment, staring at the walls and wishing he were someone else.
You couldn’t imagine him like that because the man you knew was sweet beyond measure and he made your stomach twist into knots from a simple look across the room. It didn’t seem possible that the light could be drained from the blue of his eyes.
“I’m not trying to fix him, Sam,” you mumbled under your breath, keeping your eyes trained on the task at hand. “He doesn’t need fixing. I just... I like him and... I like spending time with him. If that means he’s doing better, if he’s starting to look more like the guy you knew, then... that’s good.”
Sam paused, pursing his lips as he studied your face for the subtle reflexes upon your features. You weren’t sure what he was looking for or maybe it was that he was debating whether to argue with you further on the subject, but eventually he resided to concede, letting out a heavy exhale.
“Just... thank you,” Sam said, relief etched into his voice. “It’s nice having my friend back.”
You looked up at him, a little stunned. “Sam, I haven’t done anything. We haven’t even...um... We aren’t...”
He smiled at you, something genuine, something softer than the cheesy grins you were used to from him. It was a glimpse into who Sam was behind the jokes and the comedic breaks in tension; a man who cared so deeply for the people in his life that he’d cross mountains to see them smile again. He’d come to your aid without so much as a second thought when you’d needed him most, when your world was thrown completely upside down, and here he was again, putting everything he had into making his friend feel whole again.
Sam put a hand on your shoulder and squeezed. “You’ve done more than you realize.”
You stared at him for a moment, a little lost for words. Could just a few extra days spent wandering around the library, sitting across a café table nursing coffee and scones, and curling up on a park bench have that kind of impact? If you let yourself stop to realize how much brighter your days felt when Bucky was in them, maybe you’d understand what Sam meant.
“Besides,” Sam shrugged as his smile drifted, “it’s nice to see you happy again, too. Moving on.”
You swallowed and it tasted of bile. The book nearly slipped from your hand.
Sam chewed on the edge of his lip, a hand swiping over the top of his head. “I know it’s been a few years since we lost—”
“Please— don’t,” you choked out.
Sam bowed his head, nodding, and you could already feel the swell in your throat. You exhaled a tense breath that struggled to push past your lungs and forced yourself to continue restocking the books, concentrating on the alphabetizing and weathered feel of the covers.
“It’s still hard for me to talk about him, too,” Sam admitted, leaning against the shelf. He shoved his hands into his pockets, a frown pushing on his lips that felt so incredibly unnatural to the man you knew. “But the pain of it doesn’t hurt as much when we have reasons to get up in the morning. Reasons to smile, still. Good things to look forward to.”
You nodded, willing yourself not to cry. It had been so long since you let yourself drift into the memory of the man you’d lost, the name behind the membership card of the loved ones left behind to war heavy in your pocket.
“All I’m saying is Bucky’s good for you too, kid,” Sam smiled softly nudging you in the shoulder and tickling your sides until a laugh escaped. You clamped a hand down over your mouth as the two of you earned another pointed stare from the elderly woman lurking in the romance section. Sam raised his hands in defense.
You wiped at your eyes, cheeks burning from grinning. “I could have told you that, you know.”
“Speak of the devil.” Sam nodded over to the top of the staircase where a man emerged, holding onto the banister; a mop of long brown hair swayed down into his face, a dark green army jacket hung over his shoulders with a sleeve draped down at his left side untouched.
Whatever remained of the lump burning in your throat dissipated, the weight in your pocket feeling a little lighter. A smile grew so wide on your checks you’d nearly forgotten the frown that had ached in the very same muscles just moments earlier.
“Bucky! What are you doing here?” you laughed as he approached, a little surprised to see him. You nearly wrapped your arms around him before you stopped yourself. You’d only gone as far to hold his hand and you weren’t even sure he’d be comfortable with it given Sam was standing directly on your left.
“Hey,” he replied nervously, pushing a hand through his hair. It looked noticeably softer, a bit of a shine to it, and you wondered if he’d started to care for it again. It was the first time you’d seen him without the baseball cap on. He exchanged a look with Sam before turning back to you. “You said that it got pretty slow on Thursdays and I just wanted to offer you some company but... seems like that’s already covered.”
“Sam can leave!”
Sam pouted dramatically at you as Bucky started to laugh under his breath. It wrinkled up into his eyes and you saw for a moment what Sam had meant; a brightness had returned to the shimmering shades of the open blue skies in his eyes in favor of the muted and darkened ocean waves you’d seen that first day in the VA.
“That hurts, you know,” Sam whined, hand clutching at the fabric on his chest as if he could reach inside and touch his own heart. “We were friends long before this one wandered on scene.”
“Bye Sam,” you sang, waving him off with a nudging on his back. Hands pressed into his shoulder blades, Sam dug his heels into the multicolored carpet under his feet to keep you from pushing him along. You started to laugh loud enough for the woman who scolded Sam earlier to turn in your direction with a scowl upon her face.
“Alright, alright,” Sam groaned. He stood up straight, brushing you off. “Have fun, kids. Buck, I’ll see you Thursday for the game, right?”
Bucky nodded; hand tucked into his pocket. “Steve’s on nacho duty and we both know he’ll bring enough for twenty people, so you better.”
Sam grinned, pumping his fist in the air. “Exactly what I want to hear.”
“Weren’t you leaving...?” you teased, arms folded over your chest. Sam stuck out his tongue at you and quickly disappeared down the steps. You could hear the rhythmic bounce of his footsteps all the way to the bottom floor. You turned back to Bucky. “So, Thursday night football, huh?”
“Steve started it,” Bucky chuckled, a nervous hand raking through his hair. “They’ve been trying to rope me into game nights since baseball season started. Never had the interest before, I guess.”
That was what Sam was talking about; the small changes in his friend, little pieces of hope embedded into each day, small allowances of motivation and joy. He was finding it again.
“And now?” you inquired and Bucky shrugged.
“Sounds like it could be nice. Haven’t watched a game with them like that since before—” He swallowed, eyes darting down. It took a minute, a short breath in and a tense exhale before he cleared his throat and pushed out a smile. “Anyway, how are you? I didn't mean to interrupt if you were hanging out with Wilson, honest.”
“Oh, don’t worry about Sam. He likes the attention too much.” You laughed, stepping a little closer.
Glancing down at his hand as he held it down by his side – not tucked into his pocket, not curled up in a fist – and you dared to reach for it. You felt the slight twinge of surprise as he jolted under the touch, but relaxed almost instantly as you intertwined your fingers.
“I’m better now that you’re here,” you said simply, running your free hand soothingly along his arm. It wasn’t unfamiliar contact but it was still new. You could tell it still felt like the first time for him any time you touched him, like he was trying to retrain his body on how to accept touch like this; something gentle and affectionate. You put as much compassion and warmth into each embrace as you could, hoping it might help alleviate some of that anxiety.
He smiled at you, squeezing your hand in return. “Was kinda hoping you’d say that.”
“Yeah?”
He nodded, a smile growing on his face as he watched your right hand slide along his arm, running over the bumps in his jacket and feeling for the muscle underneath. If it bothered him, he gave no indication. Instead, he squeezed your hand again, readjusting his fingers, rubbing his thumb sweetly along the back of your hand.
“Come on,” you nodded, gesturing to the book shelf behind you. “I’ve got more books to put away and I could use some of that company you promised.”
***
Three hours later and Bucky was sitting on one of the beanbags in the Children’s Corner, reading the latest book on a seemingly never-ending list you’d assigned for him: The Silver Linings Playbook by Mathew Quick – the story of a man determined to find the good in the bad as he navigates an evenly matched chaotic love interest, the approval of a strict, suburban Philadelphian family, and an undying loyalty to Eagles’ football.
After Bucky had helped place a few of the novels on the tallest shelves, you insisted you weren’t intent to put him to work and pushed him onto the beanbag chair. Most of the time he pretended to read while he watched you weave around the aisles. Always bright when patrons approached and sneaking a few lines of narrative from each book as you placed it on the shelf, as if you could capture a glimpse of each story and hold it for later.
You were never more than a few aisles away and he caught you peering over at him every so often, just checking to make sure he was still there. He winked at you as you caught his eye and a laugh would escape passed your lips despite your effort to hide it before you disappeared back to your task.
He was nearly halfway through the book, using the same clip you’d given him the first day of book club, when he heard the small voice of a child clear their throat.
A girl, no older than eight, stood behind you as you stocked one of the children’s shelves. She tapped on your spine and backed up a few paces, holding her hands tightly in front of her.
Bucky couldn’t quite make out what she was saying, but you knelt down to her level – the same as you’d done for the boy in the café – and nodded intently to what she was saying. Then, after scratching at your head, scrunching up your face in thought, you brought the girl over to a different aisle and pulled out a book for her.
She glanced over the cover for only a few seconds before she tugged the book tight to her chest and squealed. She thanked you quickly with an enthusiastic wave before she rushed off to a couple standing by the elevator. She wrapped her arms around her father’s legs, excitedly showing her mother the book you’d selected for her.
But Bucky couldn’t seem to tear his eyes away from you. You stood from your place in the aisle as you watched the interaction between the girl and her parents; how the father patted her on the head and ruffled up her hair, much to the child’s infectious delight, how the mother picked up the book and raised an eyebrow, intrigued.
Your hands were crossed over your heart, a smile brimming bright on your face. Bucky couldn’t imagine how anyone had come to be as genuine and warm as you were; filled with an unending compassion for others beyond anything he’d ever seen before and a love in the simplicity of kindness. When you looked back over at him, he could hardly catch his breath.
“Hey,” you called sweetly, skipping up to him. The sleeves of a golden yellow sweater hung past your fingertips and you curled the excess fabric into your palms.  “My shift’s over in a few minutes.”
Bucky blinked a few times, pulling himself from his stare before he glanced over at the clocking hanging high above the books. “Wow. That went fast.”
You nodded, swaying on your heels.
“Luciana’s?” you asked as you bit down on your lip, that nervous kind of look about you like you might actually believe he’d ever turn down more time with you.
Bucky exhaled a breath of relief, closing the book in his lap. “Yeah, that sounds good.”
“Come on,” you grinned, extending your hand to him.
You took the book first, placing it into the small bag draped over your shoulder, and slipped your hand into his. Bucky let you tug him up to his feet, though he didn’t need the help despite the sinking feeling of the bean bag chair numbing his legs. He liked the feeling of your hand wrapped tightly in his own and he liked it even more so when you didn’t let go.
“Heading out, dear?” Mrs. Jefferson called by the front desk as you passed by. She ran her eyes over Bucky, that signature smirk present upon her lips, though you didn’t seem to notice. She winked at him and he felt the tips of his ears burn red.
“Yes, ma’am! I’ll see you tomorrow,” you replied, waving her off as you pulled Bucky to the doors.
It was warmer outside than he was expecting, with children running down the sidewalk and tourists in matching t-shirts chasing on their heels. They carried pinwheels in their hands and bags of popcorn as if they’d been by a carnival – which seemed odd in the middle of Brooklyn. Another family across the street pushed a small child in a stroller with paint on her face in the shape of rainbows and a bag of cotton candy curled up tight in her hand.
Bucky narrowed his eyes, confused.
“I love this time of year,” you sighed, leaning your head to his shoulder as you walked. “Look at the sky. It’s beautiful.”
The sun was beginning its decent beyond the horizon, the dark cast of a night sky peering over the light blues as they faded into reds and oranges and a distant glimpse of purple. The stars had begun to peak through the clouds.
“Forgot how dark it can get,” Bucky said as you guided him back to the residential streets.
You shrugged. “Earlier sunset though. Makes for a nicer walk after my shift.”
Bucky smiled at that. You always managed to find the silver lings in every cloud, no matter how dark or grey or filled with rain – you found the good. He wondered for a moment, if you could manage to do the same in him, too.
“It was nice of you to come by today,” you said. You nudged his hip as you adjusted your hold on his hand with a gentle squeeze. When he looked down at you, you were smiling at him.
“Just like spending time with you.” Bucky shrugged, trying to play it off casually, though his heart was racing. You nodded slowly, the smile growing even wider on your face, though you didn’t say anything.
The sidewalks were empty on this part of the walk and while a silence had taken over between you, it was comfortable, like the wrap of a warm blanket. Your hand still tucked into his, a gentle squeeze now and then to remind him you were there, a soft humming under your breath. There was a sense of peace in it, a safety he hadn’t known in a very long time.
The quiet had been his enemy for so long. He’d done everything he could to avoid it; favoring instead the white noise of a broken satellite channel, the clanging of the radiator he’d never fixed, the static of an empty radio station. The quiet allowed too many memories to come through, memories he would have rather left behind when he boarded that plane for the last time. The quiet mocked him and pushed him so far inside himself, he was underwater.
But now—now there was a kindness in it. The quiet granted him the moments to listen for the gentle rise of your breaths and the hum in your voice. It allowed him a chance to focus on the click of your boots to the sidewalk and the way you said his name like he was something to behold. The silence gave him you.
And it was ripped away in an instant.
He felt the vibration of it, felt the rumble in his chest and the skip in his heart, before he ever heard the thunderous echo of the explosion.
No time to react, Bucky shoved you to the ground, throwing his body on top of yours, his arm casting up to shield your face. He couldn’t feel the heat of the fire, but he knew it must be close.
“Bucky!” you called, frantic, but your voice sounded too far away. His ears were ringing, his heart pounding so loudly he wondered if it could jump straight out from his chest, if it would spill broken and bloody onto your sweater below.
You called his name again, trying to grab his attention, but it was muffled, like you were calling to him from beneath an ocean.
He dared a glance back over his shoulder, searching for enemy soldiers, IEDs, tanks, trunks, anything, but he was only met with empty streets, autumn-colored leaves, and brick buildings when he was sure all he would find was dirt and desert.
Something was wrong.
“Bucky, you’re alright. You’re safe. Focus on my voice,” you called to him again and he felt the touch of something cold on his face. Your hands. Cupping at his cheeks, your thumbs brushing gently over the rush of heat on his skin. He stared down at you, breathing heavy, but you were steady, calm. “Bucky, breathe for me. Come on.”
You took in a deep breath, urging him to follow.
But no—he didn’t have time. He had to get you to safety. He had to get you out of the line of fire before—
Another explosion.
He flinched as it erupted, wrapping himself tighter around you, caging you down against the sidewalk in an effort to take the brunt of debris though he felt nothing on his back. You groaned underneath him, a slight pain in your voice.
“Bucky, honey.” Your voice was miles away. He could only hear the last remaining remnants of an echo at the end of a tunnel. Your hands pressed against his face again, urging him to look at you. Your eyes were wide as you searched his, full of concern and maybe even sadness, but no fear. Why was there no fear?
“Look up for me,” you told him gently, gesturing to the sky. “You’re safe, Bucky. It’s only fireworks. Look.”
Bucky kept his focus on you. His vision was blurry, a painful ringing piercing in his ears. When you looked up at the sky, tenderly tilting his head to follow, he saw the trail of illuminated sparks against the backdrop of the setting sun as it raced into the sky.
Then – the explosion.
He still recoiled at the sound as it erupted into his chest, but he kept his eyes focused on the stream of red and gold as it fluttered against the backdrop of deep navies and the peppered brush strokes of fading purples along the horizon, the smoke disappearing in ghosted shadows against the clouds. His lips parted in shock, his breaths coming in a little quicker.
“No, I... I thought... I was so sure it...” He couldn’t finish a sentence, his mind racing faster than he could speak. He shook his head, staring up at the outlines of the firework long after it faded, the wind carrying it away. It felt so real.
“Let’s get out of the street, okay?” you soothed, drawing your fingers down his cheeks, smiling encouragingly at him. He nodded, feeling a bit out of it, like maybe he was in some sort of trance.
But then, it happened again.
The firework exploded high into the air and Bucky pressed his face to the crook of your neck, drawing you in as close as he could manage. He was shaking as you ran your hand along his spine.
“It’s okay, honey. I’ve got you.” Your voice was the only thing keeping him from disappearing inside himself entirely. He focused on the imprint of your hand on his back, the feel of your fingertips as you traced the lines on his face. He concentrated on the heat in your breath as it touched his cheeks and the pressed of your body under his.
“I live close by,” you told him, gesturing to a street off the corner. “Let’s go now, alright? Before the next one goes off.”
Bucky nodded quickly, too lost within his own head to feel the rush of embarrassment seeping into his features. His felt nauseous, his arm shaking, his legs weak and numb as he slowly backed off of you.
As you began to stand, he noticed the tiny rocks embedded into your clothing when they fell down to the sidewalk, bouncing against the concrete by your feet. There were scrapes on your elbows and a tear in your sweater.
“Come on,” you called to him, extending your hand, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from the patch of red on your skin.
But then he spotted another stream of light flying high into the sky and he reached for your hand, gripping it tight before the firework went off. Even prepared, it made him stumble on his feet as it echoed down into the empty streets.
“Focus on this, alright? Focus on what you can feel,” you said, squeezing his hand tight in your own. You picked up the pace as you guided him a few blocks away from Luciana’s, further into the residential streets.
If Bucky had been in his right state of mind, he would have thought it was rather pretty; the way the sunset cast a stunning illuminated glow onto the faded brick and the pots of flowers hanging from the windowsills. The fireworks lighting up the darkest parts of the sky in effervescent colors.
You were beautiful as you tugged him along – hair a little misplaced, leaves trapped in the fabric of your sweater, cautious looks back in his direction as you pulled him by his hand. So beautiful, it kept his focus as another firework went off and he felt the hardened pressure of your grip.
“Go on inside,” you instructed, and Bucky realized he was standing at the door to an apartment – your apartment. He didn’t even realize he’d walked up a flight of stairs and crossed inside a building.
You were staring at him when he looked at you again and it was only then he saw an ounce of fear in your eyes. You squeezed his hand. “Come on now, honey. Please?”
Bucky swallowed, nodding as he stepped inside. He tried to look around, wanted to know the sort of things you kept around your apartment; if it was littered in as many books as you carried in your bag or if it had the warm tones of the colors you wore in your clothing decorated around your living room. He wanted to look at old pictures on the wall and the stand of DVDs you held onto, even without a workable DVD player, as they piled by the television. He wanted to know so much more about you.
Even in the distance, through the walls and the locked windows, he heard the firework erupt into the sky, the flash of it echoing into your apartment and lighting up the living room, and his whole body winced.
“Couch,” you told him, quickly kicking your shoes to the mat and shrugging off your jacket. You grabbed a book from your bag and tossed it onto the coffee table. When Bucky didn’t so much as move, you took careful steps closer to him and stilled.
“Do you know where you are?” you asked cautiously, almost instinctively, like maybe you’d done that before.
Bucky swallowed, though it tasted of bile. He nodded.
You bent down to untie his boots. He stepped out when you asked him to, the slight chill of your fingertips against his ankles as you removed the shoes. Then, you grabbed his hand and led him to the couch.
You laid down with your back pressed against the arm rest, one leg draped down along the back cushions, the other hung over the side. You gestured for him to follow, patting at the space of the couch between your legs.
“I...” Bucky started, finding the words lost on his tongue. He knew it would help. The pressure, the feel of you to ground him back to reality, to keep his mind from the memories swarming back to the surface, but all he could feel was the emptiness on his left, the shame of a missing piece and he couldn’t stand for you to feel it, too.
“Bucky, please,” you urged. “Let me help you.”
The echo of another firework broke into the sky, the light illuminating your apartment, and despite Bucky’s best efforts, his body flinched.
He clenched his jaw, desperately trying to keep himself in the present moment, to focus on you and the distant scent of a pine candle on the coffee table, but all he could see was a rush of wind, sand in his eyes from the storm, the laughter of a kid far too young to be carrying a weapon of that size, the low hum of a jeep, a reflection over a hillside, someone screaming, his throat raw and burning and—and—and—
“Bucky? Are you—”
He crawled down onto the couch, sinking you into the cushions and resting the full of his body weight against you. He set his head against your chest; his ear pressed to your heartbeat so he could hear the steady thumping inside, the rise and fall of each breath. His right arm snaked up around your shoulder blades, tucking his hand against you like he was cradling a pillow.
You were incredibly still for a moment, stunned that he gave in, but then he felt you relax under him. A hum nestled in your chest as you slid a hand along his spine, drawing lines and circles to ease the tension in his muscles. The other swept against his hair, pushing it from his eyes, raking into his scalp.
You laid there with him like that for a moment, soothing your hands along the tension in his body and humming soft melodies under your breath to distract him from the fireworks as they lit up the night sky. He still flinched, but he recovered quicker, focusing on the steady beat of your heart under his ear and the movement of your hands on his spine.
He felt something warm touch other the crown of his head, a shaken breath brushing over his hair. Then, the book from the coffee table made its way into your right hand, the clip you’d given him on the first day of book club, affixed to the last page he’d read in the library that day. Resting the binding on his shoulder, you began to read.
“’When I read the actual story- how Gatsby loves Daisy so much but can't ever be with her no matter how hard he tries- I feel like ripping the book in half and calling up Fitzgerald and telling him his book is all wrong, even though I know Fitzgerald is probably deceased,’” you started, a soft smile evident in your voice. “’Especially when Gatsby is shot dead in his swimming pool the first time he goes for a swim all summer, Daisy doesn't even go to his funeral, Nick and Jordan part ways, and Daisy ends up sticking with racist Tom, whose need for sex basically murders an innocent woman, you can tell Fitzgerald never took the time to look up at clouds during sunset, because there's no silver lining at the end of that book, let me tell you.’”
Bucky sighed, sinking further into your embrace. He didn’t even notice as the final firework took its bow amongst the stars or the burst of applause in the distance, too focused on the gentle vibrations in your voice, the smell of an old book as you flipped through the pages, stealing glances up at your face as you smiled with every word.
When you finished the chapter, you closed the book and set it gently upon the table. Your hands returned to his hair, carding through it and drawing a hum from his lips.
“You alright?”
Bucky nodded, feeling a little dizzy. He certainly felt alright enough for the numbness to wash away and a steady stream of shame and humiliation to rush in and take its place. Slowly, he lifted himself from your embrace, crawling back against the couch and sitting on the edge of the cushions. You followed him, scooting up against his side.
“I’m sorry.”
Your shoulders sank. “Bucky, please, don’t apologize for—”
“You shouldn’t have to deal with this stuff, Y/n,” Bucky sighed, pinching at the bridge of his nose. Bile was etching its way up his throat. He’d never felt so helpless, so small, so vulnerable as if he were no more than a child. He was dead weight on your shoulders. He couldn’t put that on you, he couldn’t let you carry the burden he’d become.
“What if I want to?”
He dropped his hand, looking over at you to find you watching him with that same desperation he’d felt to keep you safe when he’d heard IEDs exploding in downtown Brooklyn just moments before. You reached out for his hand, putting it gently into your lap when you were met without resistance and began to trace over the lines in his palm.
“What if all I want to do is be with you? What if it’s all I can think about?” you continued, a low ache in your voice he didn’t expect. You lifted his hand to your lips, pressing a kiss to the knuckles and drawing a shuttering breath from his lungs. “I’d hold you for an eternity if that was what you needed.”
Bucky stared at you in stunned silence. He was a mess, barely stable and breaking apart at the seams and... and here you were, willing to stitch him together with needle and string. You saw a mosaic when all he could see were broken pieces. His lips parted to speak, but nothing came out.
Instead, your hand made its way to his cheek, cupping at the side of his face. Your eyes softened, flickering down to his lips, the touch of your fingertips grazing over his jawline and along his neck like maybe you could feel every pulse of his heartbeat.
Could you feel his fears, too? The ones that warned him that you wouldn’t like the broken, disfigured fragments he’d become? Could you tell that he was sitting on the edge of a waterfall with the rush of water under his legs, just waiting to be pushed off the ledge? Did you know it was your hand on his shoulder pulling him back to the shore?
He leaned in closer, testing his courage, until his nose brushed against yours. So impossibly close, the heat of your breath warm against his skin. You stayed there for a moment, waiting, foreheads pressed together, until Bucky dared to close the space between.
Chaste and honest. Slow and aching. He kissed you and the first touch left him breathless, shaken as he drew in an inhale. You pulled him closer, hands wrapped tenderly on the sides of his face and he could feel your lips curve up into a smile as he turned toward you, wrapping his arm around your waist to hold you closer.
God, he’d never wished more for his left arm to find its way back to his body than he did in that moment. He just wanted to feel you in every way he could, to wrap himself around you in his entirety, to hold you the way a woman should be held.
You pulled back suddenly, laughing under your breath, and he realized your phone was buzzing on the table. You didn’t move for a second, just staring at him, trying to contain your laughter, and he found himself smiling so wide, it reached his eyes. His cheeks ached a little, too.
He realized it the moment you reached out and wiped your thumb over his lips, how you handled him with such intricacy and care, how you touched him like he was made of worth, how you looked at him like he was something to adore – he was in love with you.
You lunged for your phone, still smiling as you brought it to your ear. “Hey Nat, I’m kinda busy right— Oh.” Your face fell. “Are you alright?”
Bucky narrowed his eyes, his hand setting on your knee to give it a slight squeeze.
“Yeah, yeah, of course,” you said into the phone, pressing your lips into an apologetic line. “I’ll be right there.”
“Everything okay?” Bucky asked as you hung up the phone. You nodded, reaching back out for him and your hand found its way to the side of his face. You held it there, thumb brushing along his cheekbone fondly before you leaned in and pressed slow, brief kiss against his lips – something so casual, so intimate, as if you’d done it a thousand times before. He wished you’d do it a thousand more.
“I’m so sorry, but... I have to go,” you sighed, a frown pushing down at the corners of your mouth. “Please believe that I’d stay if it was anyone other than Natasha... Something happened at her job and I—”
“No apologies, right?” Bucky eased, resolving your guilt before you even had a chance to allow it to rise to full display. “You don’t have to explain yourself. It’s okay. I’m okay.”
“You’re sure?” You weren’t convinced, but he could tell from the hope in your eyes that you wanted it to be true.
“Yes,” Bucky replied sincerely. With the fireworks long faded into the night sky and the gentle chirp of crickets beyond your window, the only remaining cause of his racing heartbeat belonged to the woman sitting beside him, the casual touch of your hand against his face. He turned to kiss at the inside of your palm before he lowered your hand into your lap.
“You could stay here, if you want,” you offered nervously, glancing out to the window half wondering if a new set of fireworks would begin to light against the pitch black of the sky.
Bucky shook his head, though he smiled for you. “I should head home anyway. I’ve got a book to finish.”
He reached for The Silver Linings Playbook and held it up in his hand. He had a hard time letting his own smile fall with the way you were looking at him and he tucked the book against his chest as if it could feel his heartbeat. He wondered if you picked this particular book for him in hopes he might start seeing silver linings the way Pat did along the pages of the novel— how you seemed to, as well.
If anything, you might be his very own silver lining.
“Come on,” Bucky said, standing from the couch and extending a hand to you. “I’ll walk you there.”
You bit on the edge of your smile in an effort to contain it. It did no use and for that, Bucky was thankful.

Bucky took a deep breath before he walked into his Art History class. He was halfway through the semester and he wished someone had warned him about his professor before he booked the class. Professor Rogers not only had the body of a Greek god, but the Alpha cared for all his students regardless of their designation. Bucky has professors who treat the Omega and Beta students differently than the Alphas and it irks Bucky. Professor Roger though? He pushes all his students equally which only makes Bucky’s heart swell in admiration.
Bucky’s known he’s liked Alphas since his junior year of highschool and as an Alpha himself, he hasn’t told anyone since Alpha/Alpha relationships are very rare. They’re not unheard of but those kinds of relationships are definitely frowned upon. According to some, Alpha/Alpha relationships aren’t fulfilling as Alpha/Omega relationships since, when an Alpha goes into rut, the presence of an Omega will abate rut symptoms. Bucky hasn’t told his parents since they share this view but science has since proved that the intensity of rut or heat does not depend on one’s partner.
“Good afternoon, James!” Professor Rogers said as Bucky walked into class. Bucky smiled as he took his seat. He was always one of the first students to show up since Art History was Bucky’s first of the day. “How’s college going?”
“It’s going.” Bucky stated. “It's a little difficult being on my own for the first time but it’s going.”
“How are your parents doing with their only child away at college?” The first day of classes, Professor Rogers had all the students go around and say a bit about themselves and Bucky shared he has no siblings.
“They’re…okay.” Bucky’s relationship with his parents is strained, at best. With their views on unorthodox relationships, Bucky’s had a hard time being himself around them. They keep asking if he’s found a nice Omega yet, even though he’s just started college. He wants to scream he likes Alphas every time he’s asked.
Professor Rogers walked over to Bucky’s table. The room was set up with long tables that held four students and were wide enough for the big papers art students used for their projects. Bucky wasn’t very artsy so he would never need that much space. The younger Alpha sat at the back table and Professor Rogers leaned against the table in front of Bucky with his arms crossed over his broad chest.
“Strained relationship?”
Bucky nodded and looked down at his fiddling hands. “You could say that.”
Professor Rogers hummed, “I have a strained relationship with my father after he left my mom and I when I was twelve. He decided he wanted a relationship with me within the last year.” The older Alpha chuckled and shook his head. “Sorry, didn’t mean to trauma dump, James.”
“Bucky, call me Bucky.” The younger Alpha smiled up through his eyelashes and hoped his cheeks weren’t red. There was a look in Professor Rogers' eyes that made Bucky’s stomach swoop. The professor cleared his throat as he nodded.
“A-alright. Sounds good, Bucky.” The way he said Bucky’s name made the younger Alpha’s stomach swoop harder.
Other students filed in which broke whatever trance the two Alpha’s were in. Professor Rogers went back to the front of the room and pulled up his PowerPoint for the lecture. Bucky shifted in his seat a bit and hoped his scent blockers were doing their job. Once everyone was in their seats, Professor Rogers clapped his hands together and welcomed everyone.
“I hope you all have had a good day so far. Today we’re going to talk about Romanticism and…” Bucky tuned out the rest of the introduction and just watched Professor Rogers in his element. He loves teaching and loves art and combining those two loves showed in every wave of his hands. Bucky picked up his pen ready to take notes as the PowerPoint changed slides.

Finals were in two weeks and Bucky was stressed. It seemed like all his classes had assignments due the same days and his professors gave quiz after quiz. It also didn’t help that Bucky's parents kept asking if he was in a relationship with an Omega. He decided to go home the weekend before finals as a way to recharge before he was going to be studying non stop during the next week. Bucky also decided this was when he was going to tell his parents he likes Alphas since he’d be spending his four weeks of winter break at home after finals. “James! Oh baby I’m so glad you’re home!” His mother, Winnifred, crushed him in a hug and kissed all over his face. “Come in! Your father is watching the game.” No matter how many times Bucky asked his parents to call him ‘Bucky’ they never did, using the excuse that it wasn’t his “proper” name. Bucky’s father, George, was always watching something in the living room. He was the type of Alpha who believed Omega’s were responsible for housework and that gave him the excuse to just laze around. Throughout Bucky’s childhood, George would yell for Winnifred to bring him another beer while he never got up from his spot on the couch. The only time Bucky ever saw him not in “his spot” was when his dad would be at work.
“Hi, Dad.” Bucky said as he rounded the corner into the living room. Sure enough his father was watching a football game and drinking a beer.
“Son.” George Barnes was a man of few words. Bucky sat down on the other side of the couch trying not to make it obvious he was putting space between them.
“How’ve you been?”
George hummed without taking his eyes off the game. Bucky nodded and settled into the couch. He stared at the TV but wasn’t actually watching the game. He was trying to think of when the best time would be to tell his parents. Before dinner? During? After? Maybe tomorrow morning after everyone’s had a good night’s sleep?
“Winnifred, he’s an Alpha. Leave him alone.” Bucky flinched as George’s yelling brought him back. “James doesn’t need to help you at all. He ain’t an Omega.” Bucky realized his mother was asking for help with dinner.
“It’s okay. I can help Mom.” Bucky started to stand up from the couch but George’s hand on his shoulder stopped him.
“Son, once you get yourself an Omega you’ll learn very quickly that it’s best to just let them be. They say they’ll want help but they don’t actually want it. They need to be put in their place which is the kitchen when they’re not cleaning the house.” Hearing those words come from his father made Bucky’s blood boil. Bucky believed it didn’t matter one’s designation, everyone has the ability to do their part even if it’s just helping your family.
“Dinner’s ready.” Winnifred said as she set the last things on the table for dinner. Bucky decided then that he was going to tell his parents he didn’t want a relationship with an Omega.
The three Barnes members ate dinner in silence until George cleared his throat. “Any Omegas caught your eye, Son?”
Bucky tensed in his seat, “Um, well. Right now I’m just focusing on my classes. Finals start this coming week so those are on my mind right now.”
“But, Son, what about your ruts? I bet you’ve had a pretty Omega help you through those.” Bucky’s grip on his fork tightened. Yes, he’s had his ruts but it’s just been him getting himself through them. His college has two buildings, one for Alphas and one for Omegas, where they can go for their rut or heat. Betas are lucky in the way they don’t have ruts or heats but they do have the ability to help their partner through whichever.
“George. Let’s not have this conversation over dinner please.” Winnifred pleaded.
“I’m just trying to make conversation.”
“This is an inappropriate topic for dinner.”
George glared at Winnifred, “If I want to know if my son has found himself a bitch to help him during a hard time, I will dammit!”
Bucky’s parents continued to argue and Bucky just sat there. He couldn’t believe his parents were essentially arguing about his sex life. His father kept saying “Omega this” and “Omega that”. It was really pissing him off. His mother kept saying Bucky would find an Omega when he was ready. His father was saying how the sooner Bucky found an Omega the sooner he could train them to his preferences and-
“I didn’t have an Omega help me through my rut, okay!” His parents silenced but his outburst gave Bucky the confidence to keep going. “As a matter of fact, I don’t like Omegas. Not romantically. I like Alphas. I want to be held down by an Alpha. I want an Alpha to help me through my rut and I want to help them through theirs. I hate that you two keep trying to force me into a relationship when I just started college! And if you must know,” Bucky stood and glared at his father, “I went through my rut alone! By myself. I even shoved a dildo up my ass imagining it was an Alpha.” George stood and what he did next shocked Bucky.
“GEORGE!” Winnifred screamed.
Bucky’s vision blurred. It took him a moment to realize his father just hit him. A punch to his temple. George started hurling insults and dining ware at Bucky. Bucky tried to get away but tripped over the leg of a chair and twisted his ankle. He fell and his hands landed in a pile of broken glass, the little pieces impaling his palms. Bucky tried to get to the front door to leave but something hit him in the back of the head. Glass fell from around his shoulders and it was then when Bucky realized his father hurled a glass at his head. Bucky managed to get out of the house, get his car keys out of his pocket, unlock his car and get in. The front passenger side window shattered and a rock landed on the seat, his father yelling more insults. He started the car, put it in drive, and pulled away from his parents house.
Tears started to fall from Bucky's eyes and he quickly wiped them away, wincing as the back of his hand connected with the cuts on his face. He didn’t anticipate his father reacting like that. He knew his parents wouldn’t react well but this? This?
A sob escaped Bucky’s mouth as tears fell uncontrollably down his cheeks. His hands hurt. His head hurt. His ankle hurt. Every part of his body, soul, and mind hurt. Bucky’s vision started to darken at the edges and he knew he needed to stop driving otherwise he’ll end up in a wreck. He pulled into an empty parking lot and struggled to put the car in park due to the pain in his hands. He managed to shift the gear and then tried to get his phone out of his pocket. It was virtually impossible with the pain in his hands and the blood seeping from the multiple cuts on his palms.
Bucky blinked to clear his vision as he unlocked his phone and went to his contacts. He clicked on the first contact he could see through his slowly darkening vision and put the phone on speaker. His head rolled against the headrest of the seat as the phone rang.
“Bucky?”
“Steve. Help.” Was the last thing he said before everything went black.

“...the spelling of words, and their pronunciation. For Greek sculpture, the variation can be seen not only in stylistic trends but also in iconographic choices. A fine bronze mirror with a handle in the form-oh. Hey there.” Steve stopped reading and smiled at the younger man in the hospital bed. Getting the call from Bucky the night before where he only said Steve’s name and ‘help’ scared the Alpha more than anything. Steve’s glad he’s created a great relationship with his students and has felt comfortable sharing his personal cell with his student but never, in his six years of teaching, did Steve ever think he’d find himself in a situation like this.
“Where am I?” Bucky asked horsley.
“Brooklyn Med. My mom works here.” Steve set the textbook aside and scooted the chair closer to Bucky’s bed. He gently grabbed Bucky’s bandaged right hand. “Bucky. What happened? When I found you, you were covered in blood.” Steve's voice went to a whisper. “I was scared, Honey.” The pet name slipped past Steve’s lips and he winced internally. If Bucky noticed, he didn’t react. Just closed his eyes and a tear slid down his cheek which was gently brushed away by Steve’s thumb. The blond Alpha kept his hand cupping the younger’s cheek.
Bucky shuddered a breath before he spoke, “I told my parents I don’t like Omegas romantically. I like Alphas and my dad didn’t take it well.” Bucky’s voice cracked as he continued. “He punched me and then started throwing stuff. A glass hit the back of my head I think. I know I tripped and fell. Glass cut my hands but I don’t remember getting in my car. I don’t remember calling you. Why can’t I remember? Steve, why can’t I remember” Bucky started panicking which caused the heart monitor to beep rapidly. “Why can’t I remember anything?”
Steve tried to calm Bucky down as the younger man who thrashed against his hold. When Steve yelled for a nurse, his mom, Sarah, ran in along with two other nurses. The four of them held Bucky down while Sarah administered a sedative.
“Steve. Steve. I-I…” Bucky repeated as his eyes closed. Steve didn’t let go of the other man’s hand.
“It’s okay, Bucky. I’m here. I’ll be here.” Steve kissed Bucky’s knuckles that were exposed from the bandage. “It’s okay. Just close your eyes, Honey.”
“S’eve.” Bucky said once more as his eyes closed and stayed close. His breathing evened out which calmed Steve’s beating heart. He looked up at his mom who placed a hand on his shoulder.
Sarah smiled at her son before leaning down and placed a kiss on the top of his head. “Is this James?”
“Bucky, Ma.”
Sarah hummed as she checked the sleeping man’s vitals. “I hope you know what you’re doing, Steven. It seems like this precious boy has been through a lot and you’re not too old to put in time-out.”
Steve smiled at his mother but kept his gaze on Bucky, “Everything will pan out, I hope. I promise I won’t push anything.”
Sarah patted her son’s shoulder before she left the room. She looked over her shoulder with a knowing smile at the two men. Steve admitted to her that he felt a connection with the younger man. There was an ache in his chest every time he saw Bucky, that made Steve want to protect him. Steve knew acting on anything would cause him to lose his job or worse. And now? Steve knew he’d need to be more careful but that wouldn’t stop him from helping the hurt Alpha.
 _________________
Bucky was released from the hospital two weeks later. His professors, thankfully, allowed him to take his finals while he was still in the hospital so the school sent a proctor to the hospital with the tests for Bucky. Sarah provided Bucky with all the test taking snacks and he was thankful for the older woman when she sat with him after her shifts were done just talking with him.
She told him many stories of Steve when he was a kid and all the trouble he’d end up in. She explained that Steve was smaller than most of the kids in his classes which Bucky found hard to believe. Sarah said it wasn’t until Steve’s sophomore year of high school when his body decided it was tired of being small. He shot up and towered over his classmates and those who picked on Steve before his growth spurt were hoping he didn’t pick on them. Steve explained, when he visited one time, that he kept being respectful to those kids.
“Kill them with kindness.” Steve said.
Sarah and Steve were there when a police officer visited Bucky to get an understanding as to what happened. The officer informed the young Alpha that his father would be arrested for assault which Bucky understood. Once the officer left, Steve pulled Bucky into his arms as the younger one sobbed. The ache in Steve’s chest was stronger after that day.
“So,” Steve started as he helped Bucky pack his stuff the day he was being discharged. “Where are you going to stay?”
Bucky shrugged, “I’m not sure. I might call a friend and see if I could crash at their place for break.”
Steve fidgeting with the zipper on the duffle he bought for Bucky. “Um, if you want, I have a spare room that you could crash in. And I just realized this is inappropriate since I’m your teacher. Well, I was since finals are done. But I won’t be able to sleep at night knowing you’re not in a safe place or comfortable being who you are wherever you end up staying and-”
Bucky cut off Steve’s rambling by pulling him into a kiss. The older Alpha groaned and placed his hands on the younger’s hips pulling him flush against his body. Bucky gripped Steve’s shirt tighter as he felt the ridges of the older Alpha’s body against his. When the need for air became too much, they pulled away and Bucky’s eyes widened in fear.
“Oh my god. Oh. My. God.” Bucky pulled away and started pacing in the small hospital room, “I-I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. You…I…I understand if you want to leave and never see me again. I’ll make sure I have no classes near the art building…”
“Bucky.”
“...that way we won’t run into each other. A-And I can talk to my advisor to move all my classes online so there’s no chance of us crossing paths and…”
“Bucky. Stop.”
“...I’ll even stay in my dorm when classes start-”
“Bucky!” Steve cupped the younger man’s face and pulled his gaze to meet Steve’s. “I liked it. Yeah there’s some things we need to work out but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t felt a connection between us since the moment you walked into my class.”
Bucky blushed, “Oh, um, I have too.”
“Good.” Steve chuckled as he placed a kiss on Bucky’s nose. “I’d like it if you stayed with me And, if you do end up switching to online, I’d be honored to support you through that, okay? But right now, let’s get you out of the hospital and figure out where you want to stay for the break.”
Bucky had a dopey smile on his face, “I’d like to stay with you if that’s okay.”
Steve nodded and placed a quick peck on the man’s lips. “It’s very much okay.”

Bucky moved into Steve’s spare room after being discharged from the hospital. During the break, they went to Bucky’s dorm and got his stuff out of there. Bucky had a single room so he didn’t have to explain to a roommate why his professor was helping him move out. Steve also supported Bucky when the brunet went to his parent’s house and got his stuff out of there. Winnifred tried to get Bucky to stay, but he shook his head without saying anything signally he was closing this chapter of his life. He can see himself creating a relationship with his mother, but there’s no chance of one with his father.
Bucky made the decision that he wanted to continue his degree online. Somehow everyone on campus knew what happened to him and he couldn’t take the sympathetic looks he’d get from students and staff. He talked with his advisor, who understood Bucky’s decision, and helped him make sure everything was in order. The only times Bucky would absolutely need to come on campus would be for labs and advising meetings.
Steve and Bucky met with the Dean of Students, Maria Hill, and explained their relationship. She was disappointed in Steve’s actions and chastised him. But with her being a close friend of the blond’s, Maria explained that she would do her best to keep the board off their backs for the remainder of Bucky’s education. She then informed Bucky that out of all the Alphas to choose from Steve was a good one which made Steve blush. And Bucky totally teased him the rest of the day.
The Alphas relationship blossomed throughout the next two years. With Steve’s unyielding support, Bucky’s going to be able to graduate a year earlier than he anticipated. Steve also helped Bucky through his ruts, and Bucky helped Steve through his. At one point their ruts synced up and it was a good thing Steve lived alone on a big property because they would be all over each in every room. Sarah would drop food off at the doorstep and always left a note telling them to be careful and to call her if they needed anything.
Now, Bucky was two months away from graduating and being with Steve was the highlight of his life. If he could show high school Bucky that he’d not only be in a relationship with an Alpha but also finishing college earlier, his younger self would laugh. Unfortunately their relationship was leaked and there were some very unhappy board members, but Maria pointed out that both Alphas were consenting adults and nothing happened until Bucky was no longer a student of Steve’s. The board members could disagree with that logic. The two Alphas were happy they had someone in their corner ready to fight for them.
The sound of a key unlocking the front door made Bucky smile. He saved his essay he was working on and set his laptop on the coffee table in front of him. When he went to stand up from the couch, Bucky’s classmate, a corgi puppy they got a month ago that Bucky named Biscuit, tumbled off the couch excited to see her other dad. Bucky picked her up with a chuckle and scratched behind her ears.
“Careful, you goof.” He kissed her head as she yipped. “Yeah, I know. Me too. Let’s go see Daddy.”
“There’s my babies!” Steve exclaimed as he rounded the corner and threw his shoulder bag on the couch. He pulled Bucky into a hug and spun him around causing the other Alpha to giggle. Biscuit barked in between them wanting attention as well. “Yes, sweet girl. I see you too. Hi.” Steve cooed as he scratched behind her ears and Biscuit gave a look of contentment.
She then squirmed to get out of Bucky’s hold and bolted out the back door which Bucky had opened during the day and went to the grass to do her business. A butterfly flew in front of her and Biscuit yipped as she jumped and tried to get it.
Steve hugged Bucky close and buried his nose in the other Alpha’s neck. Bucky ran his hands up Steve’s back and into his hair. “Not that I’m complaining, but what’s got you so cuddly?”
Steve nipped at Bucky’s neck. “You just smell good.”
Bucky huffed as Steve licked the mating bite on his scent gland, “Steve. Are you going into rut, Baby?”
Steve just hummed as one of his hands moved to the front of Bucky and cupped the younger Alpha’s hardening dick. The older Alpha lapped at Bucky’s scent gland as his hand worked Bucky’s dick to full mast.
“Mmm. I think. Please, Buck.”
Bucky gently extracted himself from Steve’s arms. “Okay. Okay. Let me get Biscuit and put her in her crate with her toys and text your mom.”
Steve groaned as Bucky moved away from him. “Nooo. Alpha.” The older Alpha whined and made grabby hands which caused Bucky to laugh. He grabbed the puppy and shut the back door.
“Uh uh. Big guy. You can wait.” Bucky playfully scolded.
Steve flopped on the couch. “No I can’t!”
Bucky looked over his shoulder after he put Biscuit in her crate. “If you behave I’ll let you suck my dick before I fuck you.” Steve stumbled off the cough and threw his clothes off as he ran to their room. Bucky shook his head with a smile and sent a quick text to Sarah letting her know to come get the pup when she can. “What are we going to do with him, Beebee?” The puppy just barked which caused Bucky to chuckle. “Yeah. Guess I should go help him.”

We'll Meet Again...I Know When || Chapter 2
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x GN Reader

Overview: Given your old-fashioned personality and obsession with all things 1940s to 1980s, it’s no wonder that most people refer to you as an ‘old soul’ who would’ve rather lived back then than in the modern era. Little do they know, you already did, but with your previous life as Hollie Stark cut short, you’ve been left with some…unfinished business, to say the least. Top of your list? Finally getting to marry your thought-to-be-lost fiancé.

CHAPTER TWO: LOVE TO LAST LIFETIMES
"It's the energy source, I'm telling you. It needs to be stronger."
"I never called you a liar. I just don't understand how our conversation got here. I said this drink is shitty and you started reading from a whole other book. Flying cars got nothin' to do with rum,'' regardless of your complaints, you take another swing from your glass, arms crossed over the sticky counter while Howard continues to rant about god knows what.
"I told you earlier the rum at this place is watered down," he waves a dismissive hand at you, pointing a finger to the papers he's laid out on the table. For a second, he surveys the bustling bar before leaning closer with a whisper," you know what would be an excellent power source when we get our hands on it?"
You still don't look at him nor his blueprints, eyes still focused forward," 'when'? You're rather optimistic, don't you think?"
"It's called looking to the future. Maybe you should try it sometime instead of being such a downer," you roll your eyes at his childish insult.
"I am."
"You are?"
"Sure am," you nod your head forward while taking another sip. Howard follows the direction of your stone gaze, making a face before signaling to the bartender.
"Didn't know you had eyes for Rogers," he comments nonchalantly.
"Not Rogers, knucklehead. His buddy."
Across the bar sit two tall soldiers, completely unaware that they've earned your undivided attention. One anyone could recognize as Captain America, although he's more intimately known as Steve Rogers; a once small toothpick of a boy who's recently become an American staple after some experiments you helped oversee. He's chuckling at something his friend says while sitting to his side with a pressed smile. You may not know who this friend of Cap's is, but you're able to deduce him as another soldier; a mighty fine looking one at that.
"Barnes?"
"You know him and you didn't introduce me? Some brother you are."
"What am I supposed to do? Introduce you to every guy I met?"
"Well, when they're hot like that. Don't you always want me to introduce you to the good lookin' gals I know?" You shoot back, making him scowl halfheartedly while taking a drink from the beer the bartender sets in front of him. Setting your own glass down, you fix your hair and readjust your uniform's tie," how do I look?"
Howard doesn't even look at you, merely dipping the beer bottle away from his lips with a smirk," like a Stark on a mission."
"Damn right," with that, you push yourself off the bar stool to begin weaving through the sea of strangers straight towards your target.
While you aren't necessarily a constant flirt like your notorious brother, you can definitely shine whenever someone manages to catch your fancy. There's been plenty of times where cute guys have caught your interest, but the true test is to see if they can keep it because unlike your brother who's perfectly content with one night stands and short flings, you're looking for something long term. You have no intentions of getting wrapped up being some guy's arm candy or bragging right. Looks are only a third of the score. You want a guy with a good personality who will remain true and the only way to test that is by some harmless flirting that surveys the field.
Steve's a goodhearted guy. A bit too innocent for his own good, but that just makes it even harder to believe he'd hang out with any jackasses which means you've already got a better chance with his friend than some random swigger at the bar.
"'evening boys," You announce your presence with a smile before stealing the seat next to Steve," I'm guessing your drink must not be that great either considering you haven't drank much."
"So it is just that bad, huh? Honestly alcohol hasn't tasted that strong for me since the serum, so I figured my taste was off," he mentions, spinning his glass which causes the dark liquor to twirl.
"'should report that side effect. Might be a real deal breaker for the next super soldier," you joke, playfully nudging the blond before your eyes raise to his friend. You reach a hand across the counter to him," don't believe we've met before. Hollie."
He smiles, taking your hand without hesitation and kissing your knuckles like a gentleman much to your delight," James Buchanan Barnes. Pleasure to meet you, doll."
"Long name."
"Call me Bucky," he smirks," and what's a pretty dame like you doing in the military?"
Steve answers for you while raising his glass to his lips to take a rather long drink; he must know how this goes," Hollie's a part of the SSR and worked on Project Rebirth. She's Howard Stark's sister."
"So, you're a smart gal I take it?"
"One of the smartest you'll ever know," you agree with pride," couldn't let my brother have all the fun with this stuff. Gotta admit I've never been a big fan of experimenting with weapons, but a super soldier is different. Unlike a gun that can be held by just about anyone, a super soldier is a human with ration and emotion. So long as the right candidate is carefully chosen, there's promise for great achievements and I'd say Roger's here is the perfect fit for the role. Of course, he's only been on one mission so far, but he hasn't blown up yet which is more than I can say for some other Stark Industry experiments."
Steve rolls his eyes," you're very reassuring."
"That's why it's important to report symptoms. Just because your a brick wall and not a toothpick anymore doesn't mean issues can't arise," you warn more seriously before returning to your previous topic," anyways...The scientific achievements offer a nice rush, but I also heard the military's a great place for scouting out all the good lookin' gents, so joining is a win-win."
"You find a guy of your fancy yet?" Bucky asks with a raised eyebrow and you smirk.
"Think so. 'still testing to see how it plays out, though. Most don't tend to stick around for long; ‘been told I'm too picky."
"Well, with your looks and brain, I'd say you have the right to be."
"Think so?"
He hums, fighting back his own smirk as he finishes his scotch. He turns his head for a moment, listening to the laughter and music coming from the other side of the room where other soldiers are clearly enjoying themselves," you ever dance?"
"I've only been dancing once a year ago. 'didn't go too well," you're sugar coating that. The guy was blackout drunk, stepped on your toes about a dozen times, then got upset when you didn't want to end the night at his house. You haven't even been on a date since due to everything that's been going on.
"Maybe you just need a different partner. One that knows how to treat you right."
"Is that a request?"
"Depends on the answer."
A smile is brought to your lips by both the smug way he looks to you and the clear discomfort Steve's in being caught in between the two of you," I think I'll take you up on that offer then, Barnes."
Tumblr media
You're not sure what you expected, but definitely not this. Your first experience dancing with a guy must've just set your bar too low because it feels illegal to be having this much fun dancing Bucky.
While you might not be much of a dancer yourself, he patiently walks you through each move with a pep in his step and his hand appropriately placed on your back. As you get a hang of the movements, you both manage to flow more freely, stepping and twirling to the beat of the music echoing in the background, although, you admittedly don't hear much of it through your own laughter and flirtatious remarks.
Your cheeks hurt from all the smiling you've done, not that you find the time to mind. You're not even exactly sure how long you've been dancing for. As couples cycle off the dancefloor, the two of you remain, eventually moving on from your casual flirting to sharing a conversation filled with details of your lives.
Bucky tells you about growing up in Brooklyn as the eldest of four children and even brags about having had some of the highest grades in his class, apparently being 'something of a genius' himself, although he blushes when you quiz him on some simple physics. He avoids any answers by quickly moving onto some stories about Steve which you think is adorable.
In return, you tell him about your close bond with your brother and how you've both gone from children of a fruit salesmen and seamstress to multi-millionaire inventors. To your surprise, where most guys tend to be put off by your science and business talk, Bucky's eyes light up as he floods you with questions about recent experiments, particularly the flying car he seen at the Stark Expo. You roll your eyes in remembrance to your earlier conversation with Howard, but smile nonetheless as you explain how it should work.
Of course, as much as you'd like to spend the rest of your life dancing with Bucky, time's arrow marches forward not to mention you have some experiments to catch up on in the morning. Even so, you don't loosen grip on Bucky's arm just yet as he escorts you off the dancefloor; you'd rather soak moment up as long as you can.
"You were right, Sergeant. I did just need a different partner."
"Told ya', doll. I know my way around these things."
"A lady's man, are you?"
"Only got one lady on my mind and she puts all the others to shame," he's smug, but as he's shown tonight, he knows how to not pass that line from flirting to being cocky much to your appreciation.
"Think it'll stay that way?" You ask hopefully as he stops in front of you, moving his arm from your grip to hold your hands in his.
"Don't know. Think you won't get tired of a simple guy like me? I gotta be honest: I exaggerated just a little when I said I'm a genius."
"Don't know," you repeat, batting your eyelashes," but I'd say you've got a pretty damn good chance seeing how you've got me swooning after just one dance. Keep it up Barnes and I'll have no choice but to be yours."
Bucky smiles at this, lifting your hand to his lips to press another kiss to the back of it just as he had at the start of the night," I'm making it personal mission then...Will we meet again soon?"
He's hopeful and so are you," of course."
You keep the same giddy look on your face until he's out the door, your heart fluttering with achievement. Spinning on your heel, you hurry around the bar in search for a familiar face you know you've seen not too long ago. Once spotting him, you make a straight shot over, interrupting the card game he's playing with the other soldiers to gain his attention," hey Rogers?"
The blond puts down another card before picking up his gaze to you with a raised eyebrow, already knowing he should be worried about what you're going to say based on that mischievous glint in your eyes," yeah, Stark?"
You press your pointer finger to his chest, your smirk dripping with determination," I'm gonna marry your best friend so be prepared."

MY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
it had been a year for bucky. a year since losing steve and a year since the final battle.
after everything bucky was still plagued with nightmares. shuri had removed all the awful things hydra had put in his brain, but he still constantly felt shame and guilt for his past.
so when he met you 6 months after thanos, and coming back after the snap it had been hard for him to accept your love. and to realise that even through the nightmares and mental torture you still loved him.
unlike bucky you weren’t one of the lost. you had to live in a world for 5 years without many of the people you cared about.
you had always had a passion for music but in a time where the world was broken you turned to music even more. and even though it was a sad and hard time you had 3.5 billion less people that could want to be a musician and so people started to actually hear your music. most people turning to it for comfort.
you had always felt pain, even before the snap; having lost your family years beforehand. and so when anyone you had considered close left there was nothing left for you besides music.
when people actually listened, it made you feel like finally you had a purpose in the world.
in those 5 years you became a house hold name. so many people listening to your music which sang the words impossible to speak when most felt numb.
5 awful years went by, and finally the rest of the world came back after the final battle. you became even more of a well known name then as familys and friends shared your music with those they had lost to tell them what exactly had gotten them through. your music.
you felt honoured. and yet there was still a hole within you. a hole that had been there even before everything.
it was one day 6 months after everyone had returned when you had left your apartment in new york to get a coffee at your favourite local cafe. you had your usual cap and sunglasses on, in an attempt to disguise yourself.
without paying attention you swung the cafe door open hitting another customer with two coffees in hand, sending his drinks flying. like you he had a cap and sunglasses on.
“oh fuck, i’m so sorry” you rambled pulling your sunglasses off in hope he could see your sincerity. by now he’d removed his sunglasses himself but he was looking nervously at the ground.
“no it’s okay i shouldn’t have these on insid-“ his voice cut off as he looked up at you. “you’re (y/n).”
you sent him an apologetic look, but it quickly turned to a smirk. “that i am. and your bucky barnes. but no it’s my fault, i wasn’t paying attention.”
his gaze suddenly seemed more nervous again. “your one of the few people that hasn’t referred to me as the winter soldier” he spoke letting out a small smile.
you smiled back at his response. “why would i? anyway please let me buy you some new coffees” by now the staff had started cleaning up the mess sending you both glares.
“no you don’t have to i can get some new ones.” he responded shrugging.
“no no, it’s the least i can do bucky.” you responded giving him a big grin.
“fine” he finally sighed. “if you you insist,” his poker face turning to a smile.
you both walked over to the counter walking around the now clean but wet floor. you ordered yours and his drinks giving the cafe a $50 tip as an apology for messing up their morning.
while you were both waiting for your drinks you continued your conversation. “so how does the bucky barnes know who i am?” you asked wiggling your eyebrows as you emphasised his name.
his face blushed as he laughed at your expressions. “well my best friend steve listened to your music a lot when half the world was gone. myself included. and so he showed me it once i came back. thought i might enjoy the sadness of the music.”
you jaw dropped as you gasped. “you mean to tell me the captain america knew who i was?! that’s way more cool than you knowing who i am”
it was buckys turn to gasp. he placed his hand over his heart in a dramatic manner, “i’m hurt doll, truly hurt.”
your heart fluttered at the pet name he had just given you but instead of showing it you just stuck out your tongue in cheeky manner.
more chatting went on between the two of you until finally you got your order. unfortunately the perks of going to a very busy cafe.
you exited the warm cafe and were met with the cool winter air of new york. pulling you jacket in closer to yourself. your sunglasses already back on.
“now i don’t really know how to do this anymore. the last time i flirted was in the 1940s but i was wondering if i could get your number?” bucky asked cautiously. you could tell he was nervous.
your heart fluttered again. he wanted your number? you fumbled with your words. “y-yeah of course!”
his face fell slightly noticing your nervousness. “if you don’t want to give it to me don’t feel like you have to” he replied.
“no no it’s not that bucky. i just would never have thought someone as attractive as yourself would want my number.” your eyes fell the ground in embarrassment.
it was buckys turn to be surprised. “if anything it’s the other way around doll” he replied as he handed you his flip phone.
after you had given him your number you had continued to walk with him to the avengers compound. (for once not having anything on this morning). you had resisted the urge the entire time to make fun of his flip phone.
it didn’t take long for you to become attached to bucky as the months went on. much like he did with you.
you had begun dating a month in and would see each other as often as both your schedules would let you.
you had tried to keep the relationship hidden for a while. but it didn’t take long for the public to notice that ‘the winter soldier’ was dating the worlds beloved ‘(y/n) (y/l/n)’.
of course rumours spread and though both of you had anxieties that neither of you were good enough for the other. it was bucky who it affected more. constantly acting as if you would just disappear one day and he’d be left an empty shell of a person like he once was.
after around six months you had become so comfortable with one another. and so his insecurities were something you could never understand, having never endured what he had. to you he was the strongest person. to him you were the strongest person he knew.
it was your 5 month anniversary of dating coming up and though it was drastically important it meant a lot to you so you wanted to do something special. something to ease his insecurities so you did what you did best. make music.
you were in your apartment the only light around you being the glow of candles. just having finished dinner as you snuggled up to him on your couch.
you looked up to the beautiful man you felt honoured to call your own.
“i have a gift for you.” you spoke softly.
“oh yeah?” he smiled giving you a kiss on the nose causing you to blush.
“yep” you replied, “but i’m gonna have to go get it.” you jumped up out of his arms and he pouted as you ran off.
seconds later you returned with your guitar sitting back down next to him. he raised an eyebrow at this.
you gave him a kiss on the cheek and then leaned back again, “i wrote you a song to tell you just what i see from my eyes when i look at you.”
this caused bucky to blush but he stayed silent, encouraging you to begin.
and so you began to pick a simple and soft melody.
i want to write you song
one as beautiful as you are sweet
with just a hint of pain
for the feeling that i get when you are gone
i want to write you song
i wanna lend you my coat
one that’s as soft as your cheek
so when the world gets cold
you will having a hiding place you can go
i wanna lend you my coat
oh, everything i need i get from you
oh, and giving back is all i wanna do
i wanna build you boat
one that’s a strong as you are free
so every time you think
that your heart is gonna sink
you know it won’t
i wanna build you a boat
oh, everything i need i get from you
oh, and giving back is all i wanna do
you began to play a little interlude and bucky took that as his time to speak finally grinning, “i like the part about boats.”
you rolled your eyes. “shut up bucky i’m not finished” causing you to giggle as you began to sing again.
oh, everything i need i get from you
oh, and giving back is all i wanna do
i wanna write you a song
one to make your heart remember me
so anytime i’m gone
you can listen to my voice and sing along
i wanna write you a song
i wanna write you a song
as you finished the end of the song you suddenly felt very vulnerable. but once you looked at bucky all you saw in his eyes was admiration.
“bucky everything i sang then i meant, you truly are the strongest person i know. and i love you more than anything.”
he carefully took the guitar from your hands and placed it gently on the ground. grabbing your waist he pulled you close resting his forehead against yours.
“doll, if anyone is to say the words you just sang it should be me. i have lived in darkness for so long. and anytime i have felt the smallest amount of happiness it’s been taken from me.”
a tear fell down your face. you hadn’t known him that long but you knew he was your soulmate.
“i love you.” you whispered looking at his beautiful blue eyes.
“i definitely love you more,” he responded pulling you into a soft but passionate kiss.

1 Year Later
You look at yourself in the mirror, making sure your hair and make up are just right. After you are satisfied you walk out into your bedroom where you phone and wristlet is and head out to the living room. When you walk in you smile at the man you love, who is reading something on his phone.
When Bucky senses you he looks up and admires you before speaking. “You look absolutely amazing baby,” he says as he stands, walks over and gives you a peck on the lips. “Can’t wait to take this off later,” he kisses you again.
You sigh into his lips before pulling away, “We should go, handsome. You can’t be late. You’re the best man,” you say taking his hand and heading toward the door of your shared townhome.
Bucky drives toward the venue, keeping his right hand clasped with yours in your lap. You both talk about how excited you were for Steve and Peggy’s wedding. You discussed what food you think will be served, what Bucky should say in his speech, who will get completely drunk first.
When you both walk into the tent, hand in hand, you see Steve standing with his other groomsmen, Sam, Tony and Thor. You waved to them before giving Bucky a quick kiss and walking over to where the girls were. They all looked so beautiful in their dresses, and Peggy was a complete vision. You give everyone, Natasha included, a hug hello before helping Peggy finalize her hair. Once they were ready you walked out to your seat.
You remember when Peggy apologized profusely for not having you in the wedding, but you completely understood. When she chose her bridesmaids, you weren’t around. You were happy she asked you to help with her hair, so you were still a part of the day.
After the beautiful ceremony, where you cried during the vows, you stand at the bar, getting you and Bucky drinks when you feel his arms wrap around your waist and his lips behind your ear.
“I knew you would cry during the vows,” he says before trailing his lips down your neck. You turn toward him and kiss his lips.
“You know me so well,” you say against his lips with a smile.
You pass him his drink and you both head over to your table where the rest of the gang was sitting. You all sat and talked about how beautiful the wedding was. Jane and yourself, who sat together at the ceremony, listened to everyone talk about how nervous the couple were right before the ceremony.
Later on that night you are dancing with Bucky to your song, “Only Fools Rush In”, and you can’t help but feel so happy. When the song ends, Bucky looks at you and kisses you slowly. You feel butterflies in your stomach and you heart starts to pound. When you finally pull away he takes you by the hand and leads you away from the party.
You both walk around the small lake that is near the area of the wedding. Your fingers are intertwined with his and you are leaning your head on his shoulder. Neither of you say anything, Bucky just occasionally kisses the top of your head. As you walk around the bend, you see a faint light up ahead. As you get closer you see a gazebo with flowers and candles everywhere.
You feel tears forming in your eyes as you look up at Bucky who is already looking at you with a smile. He leads you into the gazebo and turns you to face him.
“Y/N. The day I met you, was the greatest day of my life. I knew that you were the only one that would hold my heart forever. I messed up and lost you. I figured I would end up alone, because when you left, you took my heart with you,” he says as a tear falls from his eyes. You wipe them with your thumbs as he continues.
“When I saw you again, I knew deep in my soul that if I was able to call you mine again, I would never EVER let you go again. It took a long time for us to get back to where we were, but I honestly have loved every minute relearning, building up that trust, and falling in love with each other again. You are the love of my life. I can’t image my life without you in it. I love you more than anything.”
He kneels down and pulls a blue velvet box from his pocket, “I lost you once and I thought I would never get the chance to do this. I’m not making that mistake again. You are my best friend, my soulmate, my love. Will you please be my wife?” he asks, looking at you with all the love in the world in his eyes.
You sob as you hold his hand. Not able to speak, you look at him and nod before finally squeaking out a “Yes”. Bucky stands immediately and pulls you into a passionate kiss. He then puts the ring on your finger as you continue to sob. You hear cheers as all your friends, including the bride and groom, run into the gazebo shouting their congratulations.
After giving hugs to everyone you walk back over to your fiance and cup his cheek. “I love you,” you say before kissing him again. He wraps his arms around you. “I love you too. Thank you for being with me. Thank you for taking me back and giving me another chance,” he says.
You lean in and give him another kiss, thankful that you decided to give him another chance and found your true happiness.

The supersoldier who woke up in the wrong century would’ve been going through a whole lot of hell alone if it wasn’t for the cute scientist who was considerate and patient with him in helping him adjust to his new surroundings after the time-hopping incident. Fury took him to the tower that was owned by the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist (as he likes to be called) after he tried to run through the streets of the modernized city of New York with his bare feet and that’s where he met her.
The female scientist contrasted Tony Stark so much that it made Steve wonder how Tony even managed to get someone like her to be his assistant scientist. Steve didn’t have to wonder about how you were able to handle Tony because he was a hundred percent sure that you will be able to get along with anyone because you’re… you.
While Tony was an obnoxious guy who likes mocking him, you were nothing but sweet to him. Going out of your way to make him feel comfortable and show him how time has changed the past. You taught him everything he should know and anything he wanted to know and in return, he bestowed you stories from his time before, during, and after the war and the supersoldier serum.
When you told him embarrassing stories about Tony and confessed that you sometimes get vexed by your boss that resulted in you ‘accidentally’ making one of his suits dance crazily while he’s in it, you and Steve shared a laugh and thus, started a genuine friendship.

Tony groans dramatically when he sees Steve giggling at his assistant while they’re making something in the kitchen. He walks over to them and knocks on the counter to catch the pair’s attention before giving them a faux smile. “As much as I love seeing capsicle giggling like a halfwit, I’m gonna have to ask you to stop stealing my assistant. We’re in the middle of discovering what must be the most important information in the world and you’re out here stealing her for shits and giggles.” Tony looks at the captain with a stern look before noticing your dramatic eye roll. “Hey-” he was about to chastise you when you cut him off.
“Tony, learning how to bake chocolate chip cookies isn’t the most important thing in the world but I admire you for asking me for help for the sake of Morgan. But please, stop being so dramatic.” you chuckle at the end of your complaint. Tony bites his lip as Steve looks at you with such fondness without you even noticing it and he doesn’t know if he should feel sorry for the love-struck captain or be annoyed at how stupid and juvenile he was being. Just ask the girl out, goddammit.
You turn to look at Steve before sighing, “Well, duty calls.” you shrug and smile at Steve when he reaches a hand towards your face to fix a stray hair away from your face. You stood frozen, staring at his ocean eyes that were staring right back at you before he started blinking and looked away. “Alright. I’ll see you later?” he asks as he looks back at you and you nod at him with a smile before walking past Tony. Tony rolls his eyes at Steve before pointing at him. “You clearly have it bad for her, cap. Why don’t you do us all a favor and just ask her out?”
Steve gawks at Tony, his face tinting a tiny shade of red before shaking his head. “What are you talking about? We’re just really good friends, Stark. I don’t even want to have this conversation with you.” Steve’s jaw clenches before he too walks out of the kitchen.
Good friends my ass. Tony shakes his head in disbelief, smirking to himself. This is going to be fun.

Some members of the team were in the kitchen, elbows on the counter, and tired out of their minds. Sam has his head on the counter, Natasha was taking a bite out of her sandwich every now and then, and Clint was slurping the milk from his cereal bowl. There was a mission the day before and everyone was showing how much it took a lot out of them.
Y/N was putting whipped cream on top of the iced chocolate drink she made when Steve walked in. His face showed how tired he is but it quickly lightened up when he saw Y/N grinning at him with the iced chocolate. Steve made his way towards her and sat beside her, watching her put colorful sprinkles on the whipped cream before sliding the glass in front of him.
“There ya go! Made with love and all.” she laughs at her own joke and Steve grins at her before taking a sip, earning a mustache made of whipped cream. “So good” Steve closes his eyes as he moans dramatically, making Y/N laugh even more. When Steve looks back at Y/N, she chuckles at him before making a motion towards the space between her nose and her upper lip.
“What?” Steve smiles as he tilts his head to the side.
“Here, let me…” Y/N gets a tissue before leaning towards Steve’s face and gently wiping the whipped cream off his face. God only knows how much I want to kiss his whipped cream covered lips.
Steve stared at her face, heart fluttering at the closeness of her face and gulps when he sees her looking back at his eyes. Those eyes will be the death of me. I wonder if she’ll look at me like that when I’m giving it to her good.
He watches as her eyes flutter towards his lips and then back to his eyes before he’s leaning closer to her face, his lips almost brushing against hers. Fuck.
A bang interrupted them and they quickly pulled away from each other, awkwardly trying to compose themselves. Bucky seats beside Sam who was glaring at him. “You just have to stroll in here, you armless shithead.”
“Not cool, dude.” Clint chuckles before dumping his bowl at the sink. Natasha just sighs before taking another bite off her sandwich.
Y/N’s ears perked up when Sam’s words registered to her brain. Armless shithead.
She turns to look at Bucky before cursing under her breath. “Oh gosh, Bucky. I’m so sorry! Your arm reattachment scheduled this morning completely slipped out of my mind. Oh god. I’ll bring it up here now. Just give me a sec.” Y/N stumbles out of her chair, earning a concerned look from Steve who held his hand out just in case the fidgeting scientist falls. Y/N successfully runs out of the kitchen unharmed, leaving two supersoldiers confused.
“What’d I do?” Bucky asks Sam who just shakes his head at him. Nat did the same thing as Sam did when Bucky turned to look at her. Steve still stared at the door that Y/N left in, thinking about how he almost kissed her and realizing how stupid he was. He could have ruined their friendship right then and there. She was so jumpy and awkward right after too. She probably got spooked by his actions.
“Why the constipated face, capsicle.” As if he wasn’t suffering enough, Tony enters the kitchen with a smug smile. “Barnes ruined his chances of kissing the little scientist.” Sam scoffed as Bucky gasped. “Oh shit. Sorry, punk. I didn’t know you were making moves already. Thought you would never do it. Sorry for ruining the moment. You’ll get—” Bucky’s teasing words were cut off by Steve’s booming voice. “Will you all just stop it?! We’re just friends. Stop pushing it. I don’t see her that way so please, just stop. We’re friends and that’s that.” Just as Steve’s speech was ending, a flustered Y/N walked in with a huge box. She walks over to Bucky and starts fumbling with his arm.
Steve curses under his breath as he realized that she just heard his ‘confession’ and it’s not exactly what he wanted her to know. It’s exactly the contrary to what he’s feeling. He wants to be more than just her friend but he didn’t have the guts to do something about it. He also didn’t want to ruin the beautiful friendship that they already have. Relationships are too complicated and he couldn’t risk losing you just because of his stupid feelings.
“There! All done!” Y/N smiles at Bucky and Steve finds himself yearning for her to smile at him like that every-fucking-time. Bucky thanks her and winks at her that made Steve’s insides boil with something he didn’t have an idea about. Y/N picks the box up before walking over to Tony who was standing beside Steve. Right before she gets in front of Tony, she slips and before she knew it, her face was falling down the floor- only to be stopped mid-air as firm arms found their way to her waist and her shoulders.
She was hoisted up and was met with Steve’s face just inches away from hers. “I got you.” Steve smiles.
Y/N coughed and pulled herself away, making Steve’s smile flutter ever so slightly. “Umm, thanks. I gotta get back to work.” She smiles at him before turning towards Tony and starting a topic about their current topic about using vibranium as something he didn’t have an idea about. He sighed in disappointment as he realized how he managed to fuck up his friendship with her by trying to preserve it. How does that even happen to someone?
“Is it just me or does the supersoldier serum affect the brain badly?” Sam pipes up after Y/N leaves the room to go back to the lab. Bucky elbows his ribs in response while Tony laughs at Sam’s words.
“It’s just Steve who’s being an idiot. Don’t drag me into his lack of brain cells” Bucky muttered under his breath. Tony pats Steve on his shoulder before leaning up to his ear to whisper something.
 “Just friends, huh?”

Steve was nervous that you would bail on your weekly movie nights with him in his room where the two of you will watch movies that he missed while he was frozen. His nerves were getting the best of him until you knocked on his door only to greet him with a huge smile and arms full of snacks that were almost covering your face. “Movie night?” Steve swore that your giddy voice sounded like angels singing.
Steve felt his heart flutter at the sight before shaking his head back to reality and easily grabbing the snacks out of your arms and setting it down on the foot of his bed. You skipped over to the bed and plopped yourself on it before looking at Steve with a raised eyebrow.
“So… What are we watching tonight?” The anticipation in your voice made Steve smile before scratching the back of his neck.
“Can we continue the game of thrones?” He asks and Y/N thought that him blushing was the cutest thing in the world so she couldn’t do anything but to nod. I mean, how could anyone say no to that face?
You opened up a bag of chips while Steve tinkered with the tv attached to the wall in front of the bed. As the opening song started playing, Steve hopped on the bed beside you, grabbing the bowl of popcorn before laying on his back beside you and scooched closer to you. You smiled at that and laid your head softly on his shoulder which he seemed to like because he chuckled before stealing a piece of chip in your bag. You playfully glared at him as he only booped your nose in return, laughing when some powder from the chips were left on the tip of your nose. He leaned closer to your face, pausing for a while before blowing the powder residues on your nose. You felt your heart skip for a moment before turning back to the tv as the show continued to play.
The room was dark with only the tv being the source of light but it’s enough for you to watch Steve’s every reaction to the show that you’ve already watched yet willing to rewatch it as long as it was with Steve. He was in one of the earlier episodes where Danaerys was betrothed to Khal Drogo. The tv was playing the scene where Danaerys’ handmaid was teaching her how to make love to Drogo. Your body warmed up at the scene, remembering how graphic this series can be and turned slowly to see Steve’s reaction. You expected him to be fidgety and awkward but he seemed to be really focused at the tv screen so you turned your head back towards the screen and continued to watch.
Steve was trying his best to not have a panic attack right then and there. The scene was making him flustered and the effects of it were going straight to his crotch. He saw you move your head to watch his reaction but he did his best to act nonchalant and he was so relieved when you looked away from him that he almost cried. He thanked all the gods when the scene ended but his eyes widened when the screen showed Khal Drogo entering the tent butt naked and heading straight to Danaerys. When the man started ramming into her, Steve knew that he was fucked.
Y/N nostrils flared in embarrassment as she watched the screen as it showed a very erotic scene. She turned her head sneakily to see Steve’s reaction once again but was surprised to see that he was already looking at her, their faces just an inch apart.
She looked at Steve’s eyes and was shocked to see that they were darker than usual, pupils dilated and his breathing erratic. She stared at him for a brief second before asking if he’s okay, genuinely concerned for the supersoldier.
“Steve, are you ok—” Y/N thought that she could’ve died right then and there when Steve closed the space between their lips and kissed her hungrily. Steve’s lips were so soft against her and when he plunged his tongue into her mouth, she almost came right then and there. This was how she’s deeply, madly, and hopelessly in love with the man.
Steve couldn’t explain the feeling he felt when she kissed him back. He could almost hear the wedding bells ringing when she moved her hands to caress both sides of his face. He placed the bowl of popcorn beside her head before placing his hands on her waist, easily manipulating her body so he was on top of her as he continued to kiss her lips like a starved animal.
Steve felt her hands traveling up to his hair as she arched her back. Steve’s eyes went to the back of his head when she felt her grinding against his hard-on and he was thankful that her mouth was on his so she was able to swallow his moans. He responded by grinding his hips down against hers, earning a tug on his hair and a whine from her lips that made his eyes snap open in shock. Shit.
Steve stumbled as he quickly pulled away from her, knocking the popcorn by her head off the bed and making popcorn scatter all over the floor. “Shit” Steve looks at the mess on the floor and back to you, lips plumper after his assault. “Shit” he says again. “I’m so sorry.” He whispers. “Shit, Y/N. I’m so sorry! I didn’t—” He cuts himself by cursing at himself again and again.
Y/N pushes the hurt she’s feeling at the moment. What was he about to say? That he didn’t mean any of it to happen?
She places a hand on Steve’s left cheek and it seemed to immediately calm him down. “Breathe, Steve. It’s okay. Everything’s fine.” You smile at him which he returns sadly.
“I’m sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean for that to happen, I was just… I don’t know what got into me.” Steve stuttered, almost crying. That’s not how he wanted it to come out.
Y/N looks at Steve with a faux smile. Ouch. Saw that one coming but it still hurt like a motherfu—
“I shouldn’t have done that.” Steve shakes his head.
Y/N gives Steve an understanding nod. And here I thought things couldn’t get uglier.
“I mean… I don’t want to ruin what we have. Our friendship, I mean. I love being friends with you and I love what we have and I don’t want to ruin that because of me.” Steve tries to explain. Keyword: tries. “I mean you’re obviously the most gorgeous person in the world but I don't want to lose what we have just because of a kiss or a ruined relationship, do you get what I’m saying?” Steve looks at you hopefully. Clearly, he’s not very good at explaining things but you nod nonetheless.
“I totally understand. I mean… I’ll be more than fine to try things out with you but I understand where you’re getting from. I wouldn’t want to lose what we have either. I guess being friends is the best idea for you.” Steve flinches at your words. Your tone was sweet but your words were hurting him and it’s his own fault too so that just frustrated him even more.
“How about we forget about what just happened and stay as good friends, deal?” Y/N gives him a friendly smile. How the hell is he supposed to just forget about what happened. That was easily the best thing that’s happened in his life and he drove the woman he loves the most to tell him to just forget about it.
“Deal.” Steve smiles. I am a fucking idiot. I managed to put myself in the ‘friendzone’.
Y/N nods and starts to head for the door before looking over her shoulder towards Steve.
“Goodnight, Steve.” And then she was gone.
Steve’s smile fell and he turned around to study the mess left behind. Popcorn all over the floor, game of thrones playing on the screen, and a very hard cock under his pants.
 Fuck
Tumblr media
That was it for Steve. He knew he fucked everything up when he barely saw you and talked to you anymore. When you no longer made him the usual iced chocolate with whipped cream and sprinkles that you always made him, it broke his heart. But what really broke his heart is when you started skipping out on your movie nights with him. He’s beginning to think that you’re spending extra hours in the lab with Tony just to avoid him and it did horrible things to his heart.  Y/N cursed at the turn of events. She hated how the movie night incident turned out but she was ready to make things go back to normal but of course, Tony decided to overload her with work. She didn’t blame him though. They were at the peak of their research and they’re almost done with it and Tony wouldn’t stop until they finished. Y/N stayed to help her mentor/boss until they got to finish the work. She couldn’t deny the fact that she too is excited about the outcome of the research so she kept herself busy.
She saw how it affected Steve though. She saw how his face would light up every time he would catch her taking quick snacks in the kitchen but she would watch that handsome smile disappear from his face when she waved at him to say goodbye and run back to the lab just to continue on her work. She knew that Steve being Steve, he would blame himself for it so she made a little bit of time to explain how things are currently hectic in the lab.
Steve felt a little bit of weight lifted from his shoulders when she approached him after training one afternoon. She handed him his shield as she talked about a few changes and improvements she did here and there. He was so happy that she was finally talking to him again that he couldn’t help but just admire the way her lips moved and her eyes looked at him with a glint of excitement as she talked about his shield.
“Steve?” Her smooth voice brought him back to reality and he smiled at her adoringly, patting her shoulder awkwardly before thanking her for the improvements she did on his shield. “I just want to point out that I’m not avoiding you.” Y/N bit her upper lip as she looked at Steve shyly. Steve thought that she could never be more adorable than this.
Tony and I are working on this research and we’re both really working our asses off. We’re so hellbent on finishing the research so we’re always working on it over time. I just… I don’t want you to think that I’m avoiding you.” She finished with a breath.
Steve looked down at her, processing her words before breaking off into a grin. He leaned down to give her a hug which she gladly returned before pulling away. Steve cursed at himself for immediately missing the way she felt against him.
Steve lets out a loud sigh before smiling at her. “Thank, god. I thought I scared you away.”
“Never” she grinned before looking down at her wristwatch. “Well, I gotta head back to the lab” she gives him a smile before offering him a handshake, saying “Friends?”
Steve bit the insides of his cheeks as he remembered the position he put himself in.
He gripped her small hand with his big ones before nodding. “Friends.”
Tumblr media
Y/N thought that the day she and Tony get to finish their research would never come but here’s Tony now, planning a party for the achievement. He’s also telling you something about introducing and showing you off to an old friend of his that he invited. Max Eisenhardt, you heard Tony say. He was a fellow scientist who specialized in magnets and Tony can’t wait to show him your research about vibranium.
Steve finds Y/N in the kitchen a few hours before the party starts, making her famous iced chocolate milk. “Do my eyes deceive me or is that my most favorite chocolate drink in the world?” Steve walks over to her, placing his elbows on top of her head before placing his chin on them. “Congratulations on finishing the research, Y/N. I’m really proud of you.” He sincerely says and he watches her duck under his arms and looks at him with a playful smile. “Thank you, Steve.” She makes a move to fix her hair before looking back at the glass. “And yes. This is your favorite drink” she winks at him.
“Well, not to be presumptuous or anything but… is it for me?” Steve bites his bottom lip as she pretends to think about it before nodding. “Of course, it is! It’s been so long since I made you one so I figured I’ll make you one before the party starts.” She grins at him before handing him the glass which he gleefully takes before drinking it, not minding the whipped cream that stained his nose and his lips.
Steve’s heart leaps in joy when he hears her laugh at him before handing him a towel. “Clean yourself up, captain. I’ll see you later at the party.” She waves at him before leaving the kitchen. Steve would’ve preferred it if she was the one wiping his face but he settled with cleaning his face on his own.

You settled on wearing black slacks, a white button-down shirt, and a pair of black flats. Tony mentioned something about introducing you to his scientist friends so you figured that a formal attire would suffice. You were barely starting on fixing your hair when Tony barged in. He took a quick look at you before smirking and dragging you out of your room and into the elevator.
“What the hell, Mr. Stark. I wasn’t done—”
“You already look amazing. Cap will definitely lose it.” Tony smirks at you and before you could even say something, the elevator door opens. He gently pushes you out of the elevator before pulling you towards a middle-aged man who smiled at you immediately when he saw Tony dragging you towards him.
“That’s Max Eisenhardt” Tony whispers to your ear before pushing you towards the guy. You stopped yourself from falling onto Max and he was nice enough to steady you by placing both of his hands on your arms. “You okay?” He gently spoke with an accent you couldn’t quite name.
Y/N cursed at Tony in her mind for putting her in this situation. She manages to give the man a smile before nodding flusteredly. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Mr. Max. I’m Y/N. Mr. Stark’s lab assistant.” Y/N offered a hand for him to shake but he quickly shook his head.
“No need for formalities. Call me Erik or Magneto.” He reached for your outstretched hand and pulled on it until you fell onto his chest. He wrapped his arms around you before chuckling and pulling away. You gave him an awkward smile before nodding and sneakily walking away when he and Tony started talking about magnets and whatnot.
Steve’s blood boiled when he watched the interaction between one of Tony’s friends who calls himself Magneto and Y/N. The way he shamelessly grabbed you and flirted with you made Steve think of horrible things on how to dismantle a man’s arm. He hated this feeling. He was so sure that he’s jealous. He knows that he’s jealous.
Tony somehow managed to push you towards Magnet—or was it Magneto? Max? Erik?— every time he would find you hiding from the guy and you managed to sneak away every time as well. He seemed like a really nice man but he could learn a thing or two about taking hints. She politely rejected him five times already and he still hasn’t given up yet. Y/N just have another guy in her mind and possibly her heart so she couldn’t be bothered by any other person. She’s got eyes on Steve and him alone.
Steve felt so proud and giddy whenever you would politely dismiss this Magneto guy’s advances on you. He would watch as you would shake your head with a smile before leaving the guy. He enjoyed watching the guy get rejected over and over again but at the same time, he hated seeing you so uncomfortable.
Steve couldn’t do anything but watch as Tony introduced you to a bunch of other threats scientists. He was doing his best to remain calm but when he saw you smiling and getting cozy with one of the younger scientists, he couldn’t take it anymore. He couldn’t do anything and he didn’t have the right to be jealous so what the hell would he do? He also couldn’t just stay and watch as another guy wins her heart.
Steve settled on ditching the party.
“Y/N, is that you?” A familiar yet strange voice spoke up from behind her as she was ducking behind a wall, avoiding a certain scientist.
Y/N felt like the angels above blessed her when she saw a familiar face when she turned to look at where the voice came from. “Cisco?! Is that really you?” The smaller man with long hair nodded while grinning at her. He spread his arms to his sides before saying, “The one and only!”
Y/N couldn’t help but squeal and jump on her heels as she jumped into his arms, hugging him as tightly as she could. She knew Cisco from freshman year in college up until they got their own jobs in very well known industries. “Oh my god, it’s been so long!”
The two continued to talk and catch up with each other’s lives until a point where Cisco bid his friend farewell saying something about needing to be home for his family.
Y/N tries to look for the one person she wants to be with but fails to see his face at the party so she decides to look for him at the compound before a certain Magnet named scientist comes for her again.
Tumblr media
“There you are! I’ve been looking for you everywhere!” Y/N groans as she closes Steve’s door. She frowned at him before asking, “Why’d you leave the party?”
Steve closed his eyes before letting out an exasperated sigh. “The atmosphere was becoming a little too much for me” he gives her a cheeky smile, patting the spot beside him on the bed. Y/N happily plops herself down beside him before nodding. “Yeah. Tony’s really good at being too much with his parties. Also, I think his friend got mad at me”
Steve frowned at that. “Magneto?” his face reddens when he sees her watching him, probably wondering how he knew the scientist. She’s probably thinking how much of a creep I am and how I was watching her the whole time.
Much to Steve’s relief, she chuckles under her breath before shaking her head. “So that’s his name! I understand why he got so annoyed now!” Y/N laughs and Steve just watches her with a smile on his face.
“Why? What happened?” Steve asks, praying to god that no asshole tried to hurt you. “I kept calling him Magnet instead of Magneto...” Y/N watches Steve as he lets out a laugh, his eyes closing, and little wrinkles forming at the sides of his eyes. Why is he so beautiful?
“Tony seemed determined to push that guy to me though…” Y/N stares off into the distance and Steve managed to get all the confidence he could get to ask. “Seems like he was trying to set you up with a lot of his scientist friends.” he chuckles but it was so dry, he was scared that she might see how annoyed he was with the idea.
Y/N tilts her head and looks at him with furrowed eyebrows and at that moment, Steve felt his heartache for not having the guts to just ask the woman in front of her out. How can she manage to make his heart feel like this every single time?
“What do you mean? Magneto’s the only guy he’s setting me up with” Y/N’s voice cuts Steve's internal battle with himself.
“What about that guy with the long hair… I think his name was Cisco?” Steve pretends to not know his name but in all honesty, he’d done every research on the guy as soon as he got to his room.
“Oh! Cisco!” Y/N’s face lights up at the mention of her friend’s name and Steve felt his heart break a little at her excitement. “He’s an old friend from college. He’s a very nice guy.” Y/N starts and Steve prepares himself for the heartbreak that’s inevitable.
“We were both freshmen and I used to get bullied by this group of guys. You would think that being in college would stop all the stereotypes and all that but no. These guys would always torment me just because they can but then Cisco, I didn’t know him yet, stood up for me. Even though he was much smaller than the guys and is completely outnumbered, he still fought them and instead of me being bullied, it was us two getting all the torment. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.” Y/N laughs at the end of her story, remembering the event in her mind.
Steve’s blood boiled at the thought of people bullying you. If there is anything that he hates the most, it was bullies. As much as he tried to hate this Cisco friend of yours, he genuinely sounds like a nice guy. Kind of reminds him of himself.
“I can’t believe how we both turned out to be. We’re both scientists now but it looks like he’s doing much better than I am.” Y/N looks down and shakes her head with a smile.
“What do you mean? If you ask me, I think you’re doing a hell of a job!” Steve’s voice cracks a little and he couldn’t help but blush as Y/N looks up at him with a smirk.
“I know. I’m working for Tony Stark, for goodness sake. It’s just Cisco is living the complete package of adulthood. Being married, having kids, and all that.” Y/N sighs, standing up from the bed before moving towards the door.
 Oh… Oh!
Steve stood up from the bed as fast as he could, walking towards her with determination.
“Woah, Steve. I’m just going to get some snacks—” Y/N stops talking as Steve pulls out a small velvet box from his slacks and hands it to her.
“I uhh… Congratulations on the research, Y/N. I’m really proud of you.” he guides her hands to open the box, revealing a vintage necklace with a scarlet gemstone.
“Steve… You honestly didn’t have to.” Y/N admires the necklace before running her fingers against the red stone. Steve takes the necklace and moves to stand behind her. “May I?” He asks her to which she quickly nodded.
Steve stared at Y/N and admired how she managed to look ethereal with or without the necklace. “You know… I bought that necklace for you a few months after I met you.” This was it. Steve couldn’t keep his feelings from her anymore. He might regret it later but at least he got to tell her how he really feels.
“You did?” Y/N whispers under her breath as she looks up at Steve when he tilts her chin up with his fingers.
“When you were tasked to babysit me, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. About how you were so understanding. The way you were so patient with me. The way your eyes lit up each time you would tell stories about something you’re passionate about.” Steve gulps before continuing, “I knew I was fucked when you laughed at one of my lame jokes. I remember how angelic your voice sounded and how everything seemed to disappear and all I could see was your face.”
Y/N stared at Steve with hooded eyes. It felt like she was in a dream. She watched how his eyes glossed and watched him breathe through his lips before he leaned closer to her, lips barely touching.
“What about being friends?” Y/N watches him as he bites his bottom lip.
“Fuck being friends” he breaks the distance and kisses her with determination. One of his hands finds its way to her back while the other cradles her face, pulling her closer to him as if he didn’t want any space between them.
Y/N’s hands find their way towards the back of his neck, pulling him closer with the same determination. They didn’t pull away from each other until they needed to breathe.
Steve goes back in for another kiss, guiding her back to the bed and positioning himself on top of her.
Their night was just getting started and wouldn’t end any time soon.
Tumblr media
Steve stared at you while you peacefully slept beside him. You looked otherworldly wearing nothing but the necklace he gave to you, rays of sunshine hitting parts of your skin, and his blanket laying on top of your body. He decided then and there that he will always want to wake up to this view. He wants to wake up every day with you beside him. He smiled at the idea.
His cheeks tinted red when he remembered how you looked on top of him and how you looked under him. How you became breathless because of him and how your body squirmed under his touch. Just the thought of you makes his cock spring back to life. It doesn’t help that you’re currently staring at him with a small smile and tired eyes.
“You’re awake!” Steve breathes out, eyes widening a little.
“Good morning to you too” Y/N chuckles at Steve's reaction before turning to look at the ceiling.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” Steve leans down to kiss your lips, then your nose,  and then your forehead. You smile up at him before kissing his lips.
“So we’re not friends anymore?” Y/N raises an eyebrow at him before giving him a cheeky smile.
“I want to do this the right way.” Steve watches Y/N tilt her head in confusion.
“Let me take you out on a date,” Steve asks.
“I think you got your sequence a bit mixed up, Steve.” Y/N grins and Steve retorts with showering her face with kisses making her giggle under him.
“Okay! Okay! I’ll go on a date with you on one condition.” Y/N straightens up before staring at him seriously.
 “Anything” Steve responds immediately.
“I’ll go on a date with you if you agree to become my boyfriend” Y/N gives him a toothy smile.
“I will gladly be your boyfriend… I guess I’m not the only one who got the sequence of dating all messed up, huh?” Steve teases her and she just laughs in return, taking Steve’s dress shirt from the floor and putting it on. It was big on her so it fell just above her knees and she rolled the huge sleeves up to her forearms.
Steve admires her in his clothes. Another view that he would always want to see. He stands from the bed only to pull her body on top of him as he lays back on the bed.
“I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let you go.” Steve’s voice was deep and sincere and he loved how her body responded to his voice.
“I’ll only leave you when you no longer want me but I’ll still be there to watch over you. I’ll always be there when you need me.” Steve turned her body around so now they were chest to chest.
“I don’t think that’s possible.” Y/N watches Steve as he furrows his eyebrows in confusion.
“I will never not want you. Besides, I got it bad for you just as you got it bad for me.” Y/N leans her face closer to his, pressing her forehead against his.
“How do you know that?” Steve smiles as he looks at her lips before looking back at her eyes.
“Because I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let you go as well.” Y/N grins before pressing a kiss on his lips and him immediately responding to the kiss by pulling her body closer to his. A kiss that sealed their relationship because they were no longer just friends.
